Best Western Gold Country Inn

Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Had to lodge several residents and they made the booking and their stay an easy transition. The check in and out was a breeze. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who was staying in the Grass Valley area.

I thought this was a great motel. It was comfortable and the breakfast was delightful! Until I realized I was at a "Bates Motel". Now as I think about it, it did have a creeper vibe...When I got home to look at my bank accounts, I saw that they charged me for 2 rooms! I have been trying to contact the manager for over a week to work something out and he will NOT respond. I did go through a third party for my reservation and they are willing to help me get my money back for it may have been their mistake, but the manager will not respond to them either. Each time I call the desk clerks keep sending me to the managers answering machine on his phone and I still have not heard back from him. I just called the motel this morning one last time, because I received an email from the booking company that they are not having any luck contacting him either, and they told me to continue to try to contact him because they need some information from him to refund me possibly, and he was right there in the office while I requested to talk to him, and he wouldnt grab the phone and told the desk clerk to send me to his voice mail. This man is a coward and I am so sad for being taken advantage of...I am struggling financially and cannot afford this. My advice is, do not go through a third party to reserve a room with this motel, I saw some other reviews, and it seems that they do not like third party reservations...and not honoring them.

Worst hotel I've stayed in for a very long time. Room was small and so shabby. Unpleasant smell of very strong Clorox when we came in. Sink and tub were clogged. Very thin blanket so I was cold at night. Outside of Hotel looks nothing like the photo. Bottom of bed was plywood not even covered. What I've seen at Best Western is that if you book through Expedia they treat you badly and give you the worst room available. The hotel was empty and they were not willing to move us to a better room saying they can't since we booked through Expedia. I'm staying at a la Quinta tonight and they had no problem giving me a better room.

The hotel is located in the foothills of the sierra, Nevada's. Lots of pine trees in beautiful skies. The people there are old-fashioned and old town so they are nice to talk to you whenever that you were out in the town. Give it a try you'll be happy you did.

The worst experience ever!! We were there for a night only, we just needed a place to sleep and take a shower so we could start our Labor Day holiday at the South Yuba City and we were sleeping we heard a very loud noise. It was the bathroom roof that had collapsed! . We couldn't sleep after that, it was about 3 am, there was no point for us to make the report at that time so first thing in the morning I went to the lobby and the girl at the front didn't even asked if we were okay! She said there was no manager on duty, she took a picture of my picture and said she was going to tell the manager and that they would call me. That never happened! I asked for a refund and she said they can't refund me as I made the reservation through a third party company. For your own safety, don go there unless they remodel the complete hotel.

The linens were new, clean and very comfy. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The pool and hot tub were well maintained. Plenty of close parking and good restaurants right across the street. The free breakfast was plentiful and had a very nice variety of food and drink.

Our reservation was for 5. When we arrived we were told our room does not fit 5. They moved us to a bigger room at no charge, but charged us for a rollaway. The rollaway was very thin and worn out. All you felt was springs. The room was very dusty. Ripped curtains. Stained and dirty carpet and side chair. No shower curtain.

I loved the interior design. Full counter in the bathroom. Convenient location. Great breakfast choices. The was clean and deep, fun at night. Quiet. Very close to downtown Grass Valley, Sugarloaf overlook in Nevada city. Fast internet.

Stayed at Best Western Gold Valley Inn, in Grass Valley. Service was very friendly to ensure the perfect room, on lower level and quiet area. There was no elevator to move my luggage. The pool and air condition were heavenly, since the temp got very warm. Plan to come again with my family.

Pleasant stay so far. It is really odd how one site has so much negative and another has glowing reviews?! AI found the staff friendly and welcoming. I requested an upstairs room and that's where I was booked. Room is clean, all good. Only complaint is that the pool could use some love. For the price I'm happy.

After a long travel, we decided to stay in a place with a familiarity to it, with Best Western. Checking in took forever, as I had to check out three rooms, and each one had something wrong with them. One smelled of pee, one had no screen on the bathroom window, and the last one had a hump in the bed you literally could roll off of if attempted to sleep in. Because it took so long to check in. On top of the long travels, I requested the front desk lady if we could have a late check out. She was more than kind and said that the only thing I have to do is just verify in the morning the late check out, it is now 8:15 a.m. and my husband was kind enough to call to verify the late checkout. This front desk lady this morning was not nearly as happy or kind as the one last night. She stated, "absolutely not" for a late check out, in a tone that was so rude and reminded me of an extremely disrespectful human. On top of that this morning we had just found ants crawling around in our shower as well as a spider in the window that could have been prevented with a screen in the bathroom window. So yes, I chose the one with the least amount of problems with they're being no screen on the window, but this is the unacceptable customer service as well as comfortability in a hotel. I realize that this is the only commercial hotel around in a small town so maybe people will think it's okay not work here to be rude to travelers. I come to Grass valley very frequently and usually stay at the northern queen just for nostalgia, but this time I wanted to try Best Western since we were right next door where we were visiting. Mistake. It was also weird last night that there was a couple gentlemen. Just wandering around the lobby and outside looking extremely lost and possibly on something unkind

There is absolutely no excuse for this place to give arriving guests a property map that THEY KNOW IS INCORRECT! It shows two driveways and a parking area that do not exist, and this made it very difficult for us to find our room. Not a good way to start our visit. They need to throw away the old maps and have new accurate ones made - it's only paper and ink!

The door to the room was super dirty. The toiled barely flushed and the shower drain cover was crushed into the dran and a hole drilled so shower barely drained. The beds weren't amazing and could hear many rooms away. It was a place to stay.

We completed the online pre-registration, and our room was ready when we arrived. We were allowed early check-in and our room was spacious, with the heater turned on. There was an issue with the jacuzzi and reported it to the front desk. She was very apologetic and responsive. Property was quiet and a very relaxing weekend. Great job!

Avoid this place. Upon arrival, they uncaringly told us they were overbooked and canceled our reservation. We had to drive an hour in the wrong direction in a late-night snowstorm to find a hotel room. Three weeks later and we still haven't received a refund.

Hotel was clean and the breakfast was good, There was shopping mall cross the street to buy food and restaurants. the front desk was vary nice at check in. Room was vary clean and confrontable. good location right off the freeway.

Room was clean, bed was comfortable, dogs are allowed and price was reasonable. I recommend this place. Next time would like to try the hot tub and gym. Overall, good amenities and courteous staff. I would stay again.

This is the most meager Best Western I have ever stayed in. I was pretty disappointed. The trash in the room had not been emptied and there was no toilet paper. When I let the front desk know, the girl seemed unfazed. Also, there are stains on the furniture. This establishment is in need of a serious upgrade. At a minimum, replace the stained chairs and shower curtains.

Quite simply the worst hotel I've been in for many years. To be kind, I could say that it was “tired “, but it's more like the manager gave up long ago and the well meaning employees are following suit. Starting with clumps of dog hair on the carpet next to the bed and moving on to the hard bed and threadbare sheets to the windows that barely slide in their tracks we felt a bit taken in since there are better hotels for about the same price in town.

Nice stay, clean modern room, good location with access to freeway, shopping. Included breakfast, wifi, parking. Good access to Nevada City, Malakoff Diggins State Park, Yuba River, and attractions along 80 such as Donner Tunnels (50 min drive).

The room could use more attention in regards to cleanliness. Vacuum mop and mirrors were missed. A once over would be better to confirm all was cleaned. I'm did like the first floor walk in. And the pool and hot tub were conveniently located.

This place is horrible. Staff is clueless. Rooms are smelly, noisy and just gross. Pool was closed. We waited 3 hours for a replacement room because our stunk like smoke. The front desk lady, Emily was rude and left without notifying the new staff. 3 plus hours later as we wait in our car with the ac on in 90 plus degree heat, I go in and they had no clue about us. we would of been out there all night. they got us a room but our day was ruined. room was noisy with drunk guy above yelling and swearing till 1 am. maid was walking around vaping. breakfast was ok. I wish I could of found another hotel. I emailed corp. and got the oh so sorry, try us again. No discount, no points, nothing- they didn't care. well you lost me asa customer. I will NEVER stay here again. I feel sorry for the fire crews forced to stay here. They deserve better. This place needs the health dept here or something. The worst BW I have ever stayed in. AVOID.

This is an old, old 1 star motel without daily housekeeping services. You'll need good pantomime skills to get fresh towels from the non-English speaking front desk employees. For $200+ (average) per night you should be able to get a nicer place with real service.

I'm a bit tardy with a review of my stay at this hotel in June 2022. I've stayed at this hotel many times & stayed four nights in June. Generally speaking, the room was clean & quiet & the bed was comfortable. I was in room 164, for which I paid a higher price because it had a sitting area. While there the hot tub was closed due to maintenance but it may have opened the last day I was there. My main complaint is that the carpet was absolutely filthy! I didn't realize it until nearly my last day because I'd been wearing slippers. But one day I was barefoot in the room & noticed what looked like muddy footprints in the area in front of the sink as well as the toilet room. When I looked at my feet they were black. The carpet was dark brown so I could see no dirt in it but even rubbing my had on it resulted in a black hand. I first mentioned it to a man at the front desk who seemed completely disinterested & could have cared less. I even showed him photos of my feet & hand. I told him that, given the dirt I wasn't even sure a deep cleaning would get it out. He then told me they'd had another room like mine & they may have even had to replace the carpeting. But as far as my room went, there was no, "we are so sorry about that" nor an offer to move me to another room. Since it was my last day I wouldn't have felt like moving anyway but still. I left feeling blown off & not valid as a customer. The day I checked out there was a young woman at the desk & I told her about the filthy carpet & showed her photos. She apologized & wrote down a maintenance ticket to have the room checked. At least she had common sense to offer decent customer service. I'd probably still stay at this hotel but hope the gentleman behind the desk finds other employment. He certainly has no business working in the hospitality industry nor any other customer service position. I tried to add photos but the "add photos" feature didn't work. Just know that the bottoms of my feet were black as was my hand after rubbing it on the carpet

I would still recommend this hotel, just be aware that they do not do room service unless you are there 3 nights and every 3 nights from then on. Staff was nice and helpful and breakfast was a full breakfast that was decent, great waffles though. I just think that it got boring after 2 days because it was all the same stuff. although there was some variety. My only complaint would be that it was very hard to get towels, toilet paper and trash liners from housekeeping. Mostly had to ask several times and end up hunting them down to get what was needed. Staff was friendly and mostly helpful, room was clean especially the beds, however beds were way to firm for me. Weekend price I believe is to much, but weekday prices are OK, just be aware that prices change by the second so if you see a good deal jump on it quickly. :)

We were there for the bluegrass festival and enjoyed the breakfast which fueled us for the day. We had only one hot day but the pool was great for that day. The hair dryer was good, the lotion smells good, they provided clean towels when we wanted and anything else we wanted replenished.

My son was getting married nearby and my family rented a total of 6 rooms. We were all pleased with the good quality of the motel (some Best Westerns aren't so great). The rooms had been refurbished fairly recently and were clean. The extensive grounds of the motel were nicely maintained. The breakfast was hot and tasty. We would come again.

The Room in my opinion was poor. For spending over $200 for a single person for one night I would expect a whole lot more. The staff was just OK. This property is aged and needs a remodel. The location is good with easy access to shopping. The bed mattress is worn and uncomfortable.

Grass Valley is a beautiful area and I've always thought Best Westerns were held to a high standard but this place was DISGUSTING. My husband and I checked in at 3:30 (past check-in time at 3) & the cleaning staff were still cleaning rooms. I get it, maybe they're short-staffed like everyone else. But I'm thinking they skipped our room because the carpeting was not vacuumed, there were 2 small visible items of trash (scary to think what was NOT visible) and a pair of someone's socks were under the bed sticking out (I'd be afraid to actually look under the bed!) The bathroom floor was disgusting. The place is old (not a problem) but it's run down & dirty, and the room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. There were 4 people hanging around outside, not sure if they were staff on their break? The window lock was actually broken so on top of being dirty, it didn't even feel safe. We paid $167 for this room! So not worth it for this dive. The 1 star was for the nice front desk people, but UGH - don't stay here if you care about cleanliness.

One of the best of Best Western. Great and friendly receptionists. Access to bottled water, coffee, and juice at all time. The room and bed was very comfortable with generously supplies of coffee and hot chocolate. We would definitely go back here at a beat.

This is one of the 2 go to hotels that I stay at in Nevada County. You can usually get a good deal & it's clean. It's easy to get in & out of. The hotel is also around most of the food & gas stations in town.

Stayed for a cal4 event. Parking was a little tight but there is a rite aid parking lot across the street for truck and trailers with lights. Dog friendly hotel was a plus. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed with how full they where but overall was a good place to stay

Older property, seemed nice but claimed they did not get early check in alert, meaning we got last room there which was not even ready...under repair to replace broken toilet...but gave us keys as if it was ready and perfect. Bath faucet leaked on floor, hot tub near room was allowed to be used past 10pm because staff forgot to lock it. Had to call to tell them about noise/use. Very disappointed.

Several hour delay to check in. Bathroom light was out, but they did bring another bulb. Family members in two other rooms had serious plumbing issues, one couple had to change rooms, but only after pleading with staff who were unable to fix issues with broken toilet. Coffee ran out early at breakfast, but eventually more was made. They did their best with what they had.

When we returned to the hotel after a long day, we noticed several people sleeping in their vehicles. At 4am, we received a call from an outside line, asking for the wifi password to the hotel. We suspect that someone sleeping in one of the cars was attempting to connect. We did notice at check-in, a security vehicle was on property, however, we did not see this vehicle drive around the property. We felt the need to constantly check our car to make sure nothing had happened to it. The other thing that made us a little unhappy was that we had booked a room with 1 king bed and a sofa (their deluxe king). When we checked in, the agent was nice and friendly, and advised that they had A room ready, but did not mention it was not the same room type that we had booked. Our son had to sleep with another family member at a different hotel (as they happened to have an extra bed.) The lobby and room were clean, however we did find 2 used condoms outside of our door the morning we were checking out.

They transferred me to 3 rooms. First one the order was horrible and no AC. The second room the entry door would not lock you can push it open from the outside. The third room has spider webs in the room and force to close restroom door

I live in hotels for work so I am used to various levels of service and cleanliness. This was the worst best western I've ever stayed in. I stay at BW for points and it was not worth it. The only thing I can say for it, it was cheap.

ugh. TACO king bed, air conditioner as loud as a diesel truck passing you on a freeway, ANTS in the bathroom sink! Staff was friendly. bagged breakfast with complementary breakfast burrito the first day, they ran out the second day, bagels with cream cheese, yogurt muffin, water and coffee. Used the gym and that was good

Property is dated and needs upgrade. There were new rugs in my unit and they were clean. Linens were clean. Otherwise, the walkways, doors, outside paint jobs all needed work. Covid meant no breakfast in luncheon area and bag breakfast was pretty bad. Really disappointed.

older, dated facility. The room itself was reasonably clean but our balcony couldn't have been cleaned in at least a month. Bathroom sink handle came off in my wife's hand. It's July 2021 and they're using Covid as an excuse to not provide a hot breakfast or daily housekeeping, but none of the staff are wearing masks.

Theres Complimentary Coffee & Tea at the lobby The Deluxe King room was spacious & the jacuzzi did help to relax after long hours of work since the jacuzzi out door is not working The swimming pool need some attention its beginning to get cloudy I called the front desk to ask for extra pillow for my bad back since we only have 2 pillows in a deluxe King room We were told they don't have extra pillow The TV cable is a hit and miss channel the reception was blurry at times The internet was also slow We wish they have regular breakfast instead of grab and go since CA restaurants indoor is now open. Over all the facility seems clean.

My family and I were staying at best western gold country inn located in Nevada county on Sutton road from 7/4/2021-7/7/2021 we checked out on 7/7/202. When packing the car I looked up to notice the cleaning lady who had been looking in our window earlier go into our room.I ran up there after I saw her suspiciously leave the room super fast and slam the door to one of the rooms next to me so I couldn't see her. I went in looked for my daughter's backpack I did not see it there so I assumed my husband packed it. We left I realized my suspicions were true when we got home and it was missing . This back pack had my valuables in it.

My partner and I just stayed here (06/2021) and had a great time. The location is excellent, right near the highway and about 5-7 minutes from the downtown areas of Grass Valley and Nevada City. Directly across the street is a CVS and Safeway so anything you need for your room is super accessible (stock up on water to put in the mini fridge if you're coming in the summer!) We looked at several hotels in the area and are so pleased we picked the Best Western. It's an excellent value compared to the more boutiquey hotels, plus a frosty AC, endless ice, a great shower, and cable. After a day of hiking or walking around town, it was the perfect respite from the heat wave. We were able to stay longer and have more time in the towns because of the price too! Plus the staff was nice and it was pretty quiet, even given its proximity to the highway. We loved our time here, thank you!

The most despicable and appalling treatment I've ever received from a hotel. We booked our room several weeks in advance and confirmed it the night before we arrived, only to have the hotel “cancel” our reservation without telling us and deny us our room when we arrived, telling us they were full and kicking us (a family of 4 with 2 young kids) out in the street with no accommodation at 6 pm on a busy summer weekend. We scrambled to find another hotel in the area and were only able to do so at more than twice the price. The front desk clerk was beyond rude, telling us it was not her problem that they gave away our room, refusing to accommodate us in any way, and telling us that there was no manager or acting manager we could talk to. Then, to add insult to injury, the hotel had the gall to bill our credit card for the room they didn't let us stay in (we're of course fighting that charge, but it's not yet resolved). Something is seriously rotten in the management of this place, and I would avoid it at all costs if you can.

Adequate, but definitely not great: location is next to the freeway (noisy), room could use a re-fresh (non-smoking room had distinct cigarette odor; no screen in the bathroom window). Worked since it was what we could get on short notice.

Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Felt price a bit high. Had to wait at check in to make sure room was clean but it did not seem to be full. No breakfast. Nice location, easy to get to. Room clean, great towels.

This is not what I expect at a Best Western! At check-in, I was told the guest desktop computer had broken several days ago and no one knew how to fix it. The chair and carpet in my room had multiple stains. The room heater was old and noisy, cutting on and off all night. Breakfast, which was advertised as "included", consisted of small pre-packaged blueberry muffins - that was it, not even any coffee. I realize that COVID has forced restrictions on food service, but that's ridiculous. The bed was comfortable.

I have been staying at Best Westerns more and more as I have noticed the brands quality has been generally improving over the last number of years as a result of substantial investment and the brand has been aggressively working on property improvement plans and investing to move properties away from economy brands. Some properties that do not maintain the BW standard have sought to rebrand as "SureStay", which is BW's white label economy brand. I would say this property would be a good "Sure Stay" property. The property is aging and the overall aesthetic of the room and property didn't feel like my recent BW stays. The room was not flawlessly clean with many crumbs left on the counters, dust and other house keeping issues overlooked. The woman at the desk in the evening was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! She was pleasant and I was going to give the hotel a better rating, then the morning staff were the exact opposite. A couple of grumpy men who couldn't even be bothered to wear a face mask. I am not worried about COVID, but I see it as a common respect to put a mask on. No customer service from these men. I definitely won't stay at this property again, but I really appreciate the evening front desk staff woman.

The location was the main reason we stayed here. It was a last minute 2 day, 1 night trip. Booked the night before staying knowing it was going to snow and did not want to go too deep in and get snowed in. Only 45 mins to snow park, good breakfast and dinner places to go to or order to go. Safeway, CVS and Walgreens across the street. The room was decent. I can't say the beds were super comfy but not too bad either. You get what you pay for. Overall I would stay here again for a quick 1 night trip.

This is one of the nicer roadside hotels in the area. Quite a few homeless present as the property is near Hwy 20 interchange but conveniently located near stores and restaurants. A good place to stay

I have always stay at this hotel when I am in the area. I find the employee's to be very friendly and willing to accommodate your needs. They have a great location for me. They are close to an organic Bistro that serves the best coffee and food. There is a bead store, CVS, Safeway, and other great stores.

Got a cheap deal and got a gross experience. Felt like a halfway house. 1st room was still dirty with unmade beds and dirty floors. 2nd room had a 10" mold spot in ceiling (see pic). 3rd room they moved me back in was the 1st room which was "cleaned". Dont worry, they clean your room after you've stayed for a week! Multiple trash bags just spending all day in the walkways. Shady people avound and a visit from the emt/fire dept at 6a was awesome. Great place to take hookers or do intravenous drugs.

Small charming hotel, charming staff, small well-equipped room, small stay but a beautiful discovery, I have always liked authentic hotels, ideal location, I would definitely come back to this hotel during my next professional meetings, I already have it recommended to my colleagues

This was one of the dirtiest hotels we have ever stayed in. And we only stayed here because options were limited. The outside needs to be pressure washed, garbage picked up, and repainted (with some care). There were beer cans in the bushes and TONS of cigarette butts all over. Pretty gross. The room next to ours had something splattered on the door that looked possibly like vomit. The carpet in our room was absolutely disgusting. There were huge cobwebs in the corners. The sheets were dingy. The bathroom must have been painted by a blind person. And then to top it all off, no coffee maker in the room. We went to the lobby for coffee and they didn't have any either. This was pretty disappointing all around and Best Western should really put the owner of this hotel on notice. It is a a real disservice to the brand.

It is a small hotel of charm , it is not necessary to wait for a large hotel of luxury but to a small hotel of charm , we had enjoyed the staff who had given us excellent advice , too bad the pool was closed but we had not come for it , we had a good stay in love and we hope to come back next year with our children

We got one of the rooms with a bath jacuzzi. It was well worth paying a few extra dollars. My son and I did a couple hikes during our visit and it was nice to relax in the jacuzzi tub at night. The front desk accommodated our late check out request. Because of the pandemic, there was no regular breakfast. But to-go breakfast bags were offered. They also offered water, juice, and coffee in the lobby. I thought this was nice since a lot of other places close up any sort of refreshments because of Covid. There were a few sketchy looking folks around the buildings. But I never felt unsafe. We would stay here again if we visited Grass Valley/Nevada City.

My only complaints are that when i arrived the person behind the desk was on the phone and although he kept saying " Ill be right with you" he kept talking and from this side of the conversation it was a fellow employee and they werent talking about a transaction but something that could of waited until he helped the customer right in front of him. Also in the room you can see that it wasnt vacuumed,found bottle caps in various locations thru the room.

I recently stayed at this poorly run hotel. I should have left when they told me the pool was closed, they were pre-bagging breakfast with egg burritos and that they didn't have a deluxe room for me but were charging me full price anyway! I understand Covid prevents them from serving a full buffet breakfast but the grab and go food was kept on a counter for hours at a temperature that was not safe for consumption. I understand the pool being closed but other hotels allowed people to reserve time in the pool to avoid covid spreading, why was the spa running all day if the pool was closed? Why not drain it? I understand they didn't have a deluxe room but why did they charge me for it anyway! Then the next morning the hotel had a water leak and we didn't get showers and couldn't flush the toilet. Additionally the owner stated they would give me a discount and didn't. Don't let the name fool you like it did me! This best western is not run by the company! This is an independently owned hotel that is gouging people who want to flee the city during covid for a little peace on the river and they could care less if their hotel is clean, or that patrons experience issues with basic services like a running shower. Next time I will just camp out by the dumpster with the homeless people who seem to live there as well..,, Worst western!

The sheets on the bed were obviously not fresh. We used bedding from our RV. The bathroom floor was filthy. When we went to the office to check out, the clerk and his girlfriend, one of the housekeepers, were smoking and smooching outside the entrance.

Pleasantly surprised by the room. Tucked away from Gas, Bank and multiple stores. Good location to Grass Valley and Nevada City. Good restaurant across the way. Slept full 8 hours in comfortable bed. Much larger than it appears from street, hidden by all the trees.

Stayed 4 days during family visit. The staff was friendly and responsive to our requests. The breakfasts were just excellent with many options. (Juices, eggs, bacon, sausages, waffles, cereals, etc. etc. Room was clean and nicely appointed.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was okay but nothing very special. Some fresh fruit salad would have been nice. I did not see a listing for the TV channels and the remote seemed to skip over channels randomly. It would have been nice to have some movie channels.

I just finished a 5500 mile road trip with my sister or we visited all over California and Oregon for a month. One of the places we stopped was the best western gold country in grass Valley. Among the things that went right they gave us a very good discount because I'm a veteran, they give us a rollaway for my son who was there to visit with us at no extra charge. The breakfast was good, there was always water bottles available without asking, the beds were comfortable,and the room was clean, as was the pool. As I said, it could not have been better.

Great hotel, with friendly staff! Clean rooms, with a good atmosphere. We use this hotel for business trips, and love the helpfulness from the employee's. Rooms, and service are great! We highly recommend staying here!

Clean, comfortable, wide-open grounds to stroll around on, great breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Try to get one of the rooms with the sliding glass doors that go directly out to the big yard. There are many separate buildings which gives it a cottage/cabin-like feel. Will definitely come back.

The room was very clean. The AC worked overtime and kept us cool as it was very hot. Breakfast in the morning had a wide selection of eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, cereals, etc. We had a minor complaint about the blurry TV reception due to the cable connections on our side of the property. We would stay here again.

Since April 2019, we've been staying at the Best Western in Grass Valley, CA every three weeks. We travel 50 miles to Grass Valley for my mother to receive chemo therapy at the local Hospital. Best Western has been apart of our program since we started Chemo. They have gone out of there way to accommodate every need that we've had. We actually look forward to our appointments because we know we have a very comfortable, quiet place to stay while we are away from home. The breakfast is beyond wonderful. This is no ordinary hotel "continental" breakfast, instead it is "five star" restaurant quality breakfast, with a huge selection of food, and super good quality food. The fruit bowl is beautiful with wonderful fresh fruit each day. Need something special....just ask Mike, he'll make it happen for you. The staff at this hotel are super accommodating, kind, and very caring. We feel like we are at home when we are here. This is by far the best place we've ever stayed. We love the big tall trees on the property that make us feel like we are in the woods. The rooms are clean, spacious and have the amenities we need. Thanks Best Western for always making our stays so very pleasant!

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. There is some noise from the very close freeway, but overall there was more noise coming from the swimming pool. The breakfast is the best we've had at any Best Western. The only things we would change would be to get better, richer coffee, and replace the ketchup packets with a bottle of ketchup.

This place is comfortable, quiet and very welcoming. Had to find a place to sleep last night and they had a room that was available at the last minute. Couldn't hear others in the rooms...they even provided me with a room downstairs. Thank you!!

All good excepting how could it be possible that there were zero USB ports in the room! The location, room quietness, pool, hot tub, free coffee, etc, etc. was fine. What else would you like to know???

Absolutely a wonderful place to stay, beautiful setting, wonderful rooms - beautifully decorated with very comfortable beds, sparkling pool/hot tub, and fantastic breakfast!! Staff is the best and if you feel like you need to work off of some of that breakfast they have an excellent fitness center. Plus, it's centrally located with easy access on and off the freeway.

Amazing hotel with stunning rooms. Food was great and the staff very warm and welcoming. We with our parents and our 2 children 8 and 1 at the end of May and had not one fault other than the area around the children's pool is very slippy and both our children and a fall. I can not comment on entertainment because that is not our thing but the entertainment staff were friendly.

Hotel to far away from main resort for us . Hotel suitable if you don't want to venture out. Room cleaned daily, bed comfortable, good size balcony, all staff in restaurant and bars very pleasant and worked their socks off. Good variety of food what ever time you visited restaurant. AI with branded spirits bonus. Evening entertainment was okay. Plenty sun loungers at pool. Loved the adults pool, although lifeguards have different rules some let you eat snacks from bar at poolside others don't some inconsistency needs resolving. Hotel should have trained first aid staff as there was an incident in bar when someone had fall resulting in serious head injury which dealt with by holidaymaker in bar at time very poor response from hotel staff.

Overall good location and decent facility. Thought it was a bit overpriced for a BW, but oh well. The plumbing in the room (draining) was very slow...sink, toilet and tub. Avoid the rooms facing DMV during the week...amplified line queuing "now serving # 3 at window C" was clearly audible inside the room.

So what the TV/remote didn't function correctly, there are other choices. I like bigger beds with my HONEY. Wanted that room with Jacuzzi for GrandMa, but since we had to change it to a night earlier, it was already taken and we couldn't have stayed a day later. Graduation was changed from a Saturday to Friday, which messed everything up. O'WELL !?!

Really lovely hotel, staff facilities and food and drink! Evening entertainment set up abit odd and a little late but kids enjoyed it!! Will be revisiting next year 100%, tried rebooking this year but full up all summer!

The hotel looked lovely apon arrival until we got to the reception and we were greeted by an extremely rude and hostile receptionist! we didnt have a peice of paper so she refused to check us in as it was the "rules"!!!! with 6 kids the youngest being one screaming and tired and the other children being super excited and hyper my stress levels were high.... she then snapped at me to "calm down" to which i broke down in tears..... After myself walking out of the hotel in tears and an other bus full of passangers arriving and my sister demanding to talk with our rep she gave us access to our rooms...... The rooms had rubbish on the floor under the bed.... There was moldy milk in one of the fridges and an issue with electrics in an other room..... Some meal services we would have to go without drinks as the staff were so over streched.... This too was an issue at the bar trying to get drinks..... The entertainement for the children was extremly poor kids club in the evening was very late 9pm and only lasted 20 mins..... Finding the entertainment room was also very difficult and when asking for help and directions we were sent on a wild goose chase...... I did express my upset with my jet 2 rep in regards to issues and the issue with the reception staff seemed to be a reoccurring issue... The food was however very good some of the best ive had on holiday with a huge selection..... Would not recommend the hotel

I went alone with my son for four nights in May 19 and had a fabulous time. We had a junior suite which was superb: really big, comfortable and clean. There were ongoing works during my stay but these were very well managed and not intrusive. The food selection was great: didn't get bored of the choices and the wine was surprisingly good. Could just be a bit hard to get a drink at times as not everyone is all inclusive so you have to catch a free waiter instead of helping yourself. The staff were working non-stop, there just weren't enough on to serve and clear tables. Lunch could do with being an hour earlier too. The pool was fabulous. Was only at the kids pool but the others looked superb. The hotel could benefit from better signage however as it was really difficult to finds places. Maybe this is planned as part of the refurb however. Only low point was the mini disco was very disappointing. Hard to find and chaotically ran. Didn't have all the classic mini disco tunes like chuchua either and 9 o'clock was not a good start time for the wee ones so it wasn't well attended. The later evening entertainment was good however.

Hotel wonderful on all areas. Food choice & times very good, although some food wasn't kept hot enough, plenty of seating. Pool areas beautifully kept with plenty of sun beds, no problem to acquire one. All staff very pleasant and helpful. Rooms well equipped with a free safe & fridge.

Been coming here for 30+ yrs. Never disapointed and recomment it to others when they are in the area. Breakfast has good asortment. Close to market, bank, gas stations, and resturants and town. Easy off and on to the highway.

The Gold Country Inn was by far the worst Best Western l have ever stayed in. The smell on entry was horrible, there was an empty six pack and other assorted garbage left behind the dresser, was says a lot about housekeeping, and the TV didn't work but at 7:30 at night we didn't want to deal with staff. The clerk at check out told my wife at she would not charge the $30 pet fee, which was a lie as when I looked at receipt the next day it had been charged. The room in general but especially the bathroom were in terrible condition as whoever "remodeled" or does maintenance doesn't care to finish or what the property looks like. I would advise staying at Gold Miners Inn.

Positives - Friendly staff and easy access to and from the freeway. Negatives - Bathroom in the hotel room can be kept much cleaner, no hair stuck on the walls and/or in the tub. There was also mildewy order in the room.

Best Western Gold Country Inn at Grass Valley, CA, is the best of the best. We have always enjoyed staying here. Nice and clean rooms, helpful staff and nice grounds add to our enjoyment. They have the best breakfast, you are up in the mountains, so eating breakfast outside on a beautiful mountain morning, is wonderful. You are so close to everything at this location. You can go to downtown Grass Valley or over to downtown Nevada City both towns are historical and close to the Best Western Gold Country Inn Grass Valley, CA.

On Friday night, I booked a hotel room which was advertised as having two queen beds. When we arrived, the man at the front desk said that only a room with one bed was available. Despite the fact it was a smaller room with just one bed, we were charged the same rate as the one with the two queen beds. I was traveling with another couple, and the fact that there was just one bed made it an awkward situation. Additionally, the bed was not made properly when we arrived. The sheets were pulled all the way down like someone else had slept there.

Lovely clean hotel right on the beach front. Amazing views. Beautiful well kept grounds and pools.Loads to do in the hotel. Fab freindly staff. Loads to choose from in the restaurant something for everyone.The most comfortable bed ive sleeped in ages.10 out of 10

Quiet, comfortable property close to Grass Valley amenities and sights. Convenient shopping right across the street including Starbucks! Standard Best Western breakfast. Nice to have a balcony outside the room. Would stay here again next stop in Grass Valley.

Love this hotel for a quick trip to enjoy grass valley and not to far to head up to Lake Tahoe for the day. Look forward to coming here again in the future. We prefer to stay away from the freeway, that side can be a little noisy to,sleep.

I've stayed in a lot of Best Westerns. Nice grounds, but this was just average. Confusing layout of rooms. Even with a map, had a problem finding the room after dark in a cold rain. Bathroom area was very chilly since heater was far away, and the floor was not insulated and cold. But it was clean, breakfast was as expected.

Friendly staff from check in to room cleaning to grounds keepers. I did not get the gentlemans name that serves breakfast however he welcomes each guest at breakfast service and goes out of his way to make sure you have a wonderful experience.

We booked this hotel because we were attending a wedding in Nevada City. Nice hotel, clean rooms and grounds, staff are nice, very pet friendly (our room had a sliding door out to a grassy area), great continental breakfast/free coffee and juice, and minutes away from Nevada City and Miners Foundry (where the wedding was), I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area and need a pet friendly motel.

I have stayed twice at this property. Clean rooms and the area is safe, no highway noise but close by for travel purposes, hot tub jets are GREAT, staff very friendly and helpful and they serve with a smile

Room decor was updated at least and the price wasn't bad but man was this place noisy and the mattress seemed like it was pretty old. Not sure if they allow pets but there was a dog barking in a room next to us.

This hotel is our #1 go to hotel when we stay in the Grass Valley area. The staff is always so willing to accommodate us in every way they can. As an example, when I originally made our reservation earlier in the year, the only room available was a single queen ADA room. I was wanting a Dbl Queen room but went ahead and booked the reservation anyway. The gentleman that helped me make the reservation suggested that I try calling back closer to our stay date and if they had any cancellations for the kind of room I wanted they could easily change my reservation. So I did just that and they ended up getting me into one of their larger rooms. The room was perfect! Very large and even had a kitchenette setup in it. Plus the location of the room could not have been better. My husband and I were staying there with our classic cars and the parking in front of our room was ideal for parking our cars without worry of them being damaged in any way.Even though this hotel is one of the older BW's that we have stayed at it is always well maintained and very clean. Thanks to the staff and their hard work for making our stay a comfortable one!

We have stayed at this Best Western many times and have never had any problems, rooms are clean and the staff are all very helpful, with directions or places to eat or shop, coffee in the lobby is always fresh, no matter what time of day.

Pool down for the majority of my stay. I booked this hotel specifically for the pool.Under construction...so no naps! Had to ask for toilt paper three days!I reported issues to the front desk AND left a voice mail for the manager while I was there. Manager never responded. Great property in a great location, but poorly managed.

I love BW's for their consistent quality, affordable accommodations and yummy breakfasts. The Pinedale BW is no exception. This hotel is my only choice when traveling to that area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to/through Pinedale.

I was on a road trip with my daughter and her friend, so just decided to stay on a whim at Grass Valley, Ca. We called to make reservations and Stephanie was very polite, she went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. She also made sure we got Best Western points for our stay. I often book through Expedia or other third parties but I am discovering you don't earn points when booking this way and can often get just as good a deal by calling hotel direct.

The staff here was warm and welcoming. The lobby and grounds are a comfortable place to hang out. Internet is great. Breakfast is great. It's in a nice setting, close to Safeway, Walgreens and CVS. We completely enjoyed our stay here.

I booked this room as a last minute busness trip. I checked and went to my room. Room smelled like it gad not been aired in days. Very musty smell. When i got into bed, ifound one if the pillow case had a blood stain on it.Then in the morning, I got into the shower and found no shampoo in the bathroo. and there was no shampoo in the bathroom. Older rooms. Not very clean.

It's an older property but with a lot of character. I didn't have any problems or issues with the I internet. Breakfast was very good and staff was excellent. Close to anywhere you want to go and there is plenty of great destinations near by.

I like Best Western Hotels, usually, and I especially like the breakfasts they offer. However, the BW in Grass Valley is a major disappointment. Besides being old and extremely out-dated, it appears dirty and has a poor First Impression. The carpets are grossly stained (every room I've stayed in has stained carpets - and I've stayed here a dozen nights or more in the last year) and the furniture isn't much better. If you're wondering why I stay so frequently when it's gross - there's just not many options in the Grass Valley area and I need to travel here for work. There's more expensive hotels, but the corporate bean counters don't approve of those expensive hotels. So, if you travel on a budget, stay here but do NOT take off your socks! The staff varies - this trip they were friendly and cheerful, but on most visits they hardly speak to you other than "driver license and credit card" - not even a please and thank you. And the breakfast...to be honest I've never eaten it. The bacon just doesn't look right and the eggs...um, yeah, no. I appreciate the bottled water they have available - but if they read this, maybe they will start putting them on ice so they are cold! (hint hint). Overall...I love this area and am grateful I get to come here for business, but this is my least favorite hotel that I stay in throughout the year, and I stay here out of necessity, not choice. It's generally busy, it's conveniently located, they have an outdoor pool and hot tub, and there's some positive reviews here, so take mine with a grain of salt - just don't forget your slippers!

The outside of this location is a bit low key but the rooms are very nice, the staff is friendly and truly want you to be happy. The breakfast is outstanding! You will find fresh fruit salad, cereal, eggs, hard-boiled and scrambled, sausage, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, muffins, breads, waffles, special jams, condiments, additional fresh fruit and so much more. Corporate needs to come to this location and see what can be done in a relatively small space and have every Best Western follow suit no matter the size. Everything was fresh and attractively arranged. Coffee was in the lobby which was so smart, as was the juice. If you can't stay to eat in the dining room they will help you to take what you need on the road. It's a little close to highway 49, but that is convenient and it quiets down by late evening. Great stay!

Hotel staff was very friendly and professional . Hotel itself has a Great location, very clean and a good price for the area. Highly recommended if you want a quite good night sleep. Many places close by to eat at also.

This is a pretty nice BW. It is a convenient location just off hwy 49. Ask for a room away from the hwy as it's quieter. Very pleasant front desk personnel. Clean & comfortable. Room 183 is upstairs away from the hwy & was very quiet for us.

I'll never stay here again, if the traffic wasn't too loud, the plumbing when someone else took a shower sounded like a freight train. To boot they were very slow at refilling breakfast needs and I found moldy berries that turned me off from anything more than a yogurt

The room sure was smelly. the carpet was filthy , we were afraid to take our shoes off. Definetly needs an upgrade . We had planned on staying in Nevada city and simply found this place as a last stop of exhaustion. I could do with a new paint job and a good clean that is for sure . ON the plus side the bed was clean and the linens were clean.

Was here for one night but I would definitely return. The room was clean, staff friendly, and the breakfast excellent! Waffles, eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuit & gravy, along with cereal, oatmeal packages, yogurt, fresh fruit!

I stayed here from 3/22/18 to 3/28/18. This is not in downtown Grass Valley but just a quick 10 or 15 min ride. Also very conveniently located across from the grocery store, pharmacy, Starbucks and close to restaurants. Initial impressions: the lobby was pretty, clean and the staff at the desk was awesome. Very helpful, pleasant, and all soles. RM 182, 2nd floor with a balcony overlooking the grass. The outside of the building is a bit dingy, but don't let that fool you. The room was great, clean, big, nice fridge and microwave and a very comfortable bed. After a few days: Still great, breakfast is very filling and the bacon is great. The staff is helpful, accommodating and all smiles. Even the cleaning staff are all smiles and greet you. My daughter came to stay with her dog and they were very accommodating, just the $20 night fee. There were plenty of places to walk the dog, and they really are very dog friendly. I absolutely enjoyed my stay and would stay again. I recommend them for many reasons: cleanliness, friendliness and a great breakfast.

The room was older but appeared maintained. Bathroom was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. Everything (lights, microwave, etc.) worked correctly, Carpet and chair/couch were in dire need of a good cleaning. Hot breakfast (eggs, etc.) was included. Backs up against the highway, so if traffic noise bothers you, bring your earplugs!

It's not fancy. But, it's clean and well-maintained. The room (2nd floor of the main building) was quiet, spacious, and comfortable. The breakfast (included) was wonderful. There were many options that seemed freshly-prepared. The breakfast cook/attendant, Michael, did a wonderful job.

The staff was friendly and efficient. The one-king size bed room was spacious, well maintained and clean. It had flat screen TV, small refrigerator, coffee maker, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, etc. All of the rooms faced to the outside of the building and next to a main street but even through the hotel was full it was quiet and we had a good night sleep. We spent 2 nights so we could explore the area.

The hotel was really nice and clean. Good breakfast in the morning. Enjoyed our stay very much. The bed could have been a little more comfortable. But we were only here for one night so it was ok. Would come back again.

Hotel went through a cheap renovation. Clean, but a 2 star hotel. I found it to be expensive for the quality. Old bathroom. Old heater system. Shower was too soft. Just expect it to be a 2 star hotel. However, the breakfast had fresh berries, eggs, etc.

We have stayed in this facility many times over the past ten years. It has maintained a high standard over the years. The facility, amenities and personnel have always remained consistently top quality.

My kids and I stayed here so that we could attend the Nevada City Christmas festival. It is in a great location, a short six minute ride outside of Nevada City. It was priced fairly considering we needed two queen sized beds (not an option if I had stayed right in Nevada City-I would have had to book two rooms instead of one!). The decor was slightly dated, but everything was clean and comfortable. The reception attendant was super nice and welcoming, answered all of our questions, and gave great advice. We would certainly stay here again.

This place looks better from the outside than once you get settled. For the positive comments, the reception staff was friendly and helpful, and the beds were comfortable with updated linens. From there it was downhill. Not sure how long it had been since our room had been rented, but it was probably only 55 degrees in it when we arrived. The room also had a stale smell to it that didn't go away with heat. It took the wall unit about 2 hours to heat the room. The carpets were not very clean, and the bathroom was outdated, with an old style low to the floor toilet, and patched but unpainted holes in the wall. With the heating unit off, the freeway noise is noticeable. However it does drop off late at night. For the price, the room should have been much nicer. Stay someplace else.

In a great location, with a top line bakery with great coffee across the street. Breakfast is good, served from 6-10am. Nice big TV. A very upright, safe, and quite place to stay. We always stay here when visiting.

We came down for the Cornish Christmas celebration and the hotel was perfectly located - walking distance from everything downtown. The room was large, clean, and well-appointed with great morning coffee service, a nightly cocktail reception and a generous breakfast buffet. The staff was very welcoming and the room was worth the extra cost when compared to other Grass Valley lodgings.

When we arrived we were running late and lost and let's just say my stress level was at a 20! The staff was courteous and understanding and helped me calm down. We ended up getting to the event on time and everything worked out. We just wish we could've stayed longer

Basic motel with everything one needs....tv, microwave, refrigerator, minimal toiletries, pool, spa, mini workout room, awesome continental breakfast! But you can hear your neighbors and people outside pretty easily. Free WiFi but a little hard to access. The front desk tells you the website and then the password. But when you open your network it says that it is unsecured and it looks like you're already online even though I never entered the password. But...you're not online. You need to go to “add network” and retype in the motels network name and then you'll get a page to enter the password and you're good to go!

This is an older hotel & while the outside concrete staircases could use a facelift, I can't say anything else bad about it. The rooms were clean, it was very quiet, the beds are on the firm side. The breakfast incuded coffee, juices, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs (they weren't good, previously frozen) fruit cup, biscuits with sausage gravy, muffins, bread, english muffins, very good scrambed eggs, sausage, country potatoes & waffles with fresh fruit toppings. It's also very close to shopping, restaurants, grocery stores & only 2-3 miles from Nevada City. I was very happy with my choice to stay here.

This hotel was close to shopping & many restaurants & a short drive (2-3 miles) to Nevada City. The rooms were clean, the grounds were nicely kept, the beds are a little firm for my liking & the a/c & Heat worked great. Breakfast was good, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit (fresh & in a cup), muffins, bread, eggs, sausage, potatoes & waffles with fresh fruit. I would stay here again.

This is an older, but clean and well-maintained motel located conveniently off the freeway and across the street from a large shopping center. We decided to use our reward points for a long weekend here, which caused some confusion and a delay at check-in. The Clerk had to call the chain to find our reservations (even though we had confirmations with us). He let us know that the motel was a franchise and we probably got a better deal through the chain than if we had booked directly through them (which made us feel as if were were somehow cheating the owners.) Our room was small but adequate. There was a construction job next door and we awoke to heavy machinery, back-up bells and loud equipment each morning at 7:00 AM. I'm surprised the City allows this, or that the owners couldn't work out an arrangement with their neighbors that would reduce noise impacts to their guests.

I was in town to visit my daughter who lives and works up in the mountains. I needed a comfortable, affordable place to stay. The room was very comfortable and it even had a balcony. The staff was friendly and helpful. The internet was a little tricky to get on to but other than that - very satisfied.

The motel was older but maintained. The staff seemed distant and unfriendly. They did preform their job functions. The area is currently under construction. Be careful of trucks and construction workers. The motel allows pets and that is why we chose the location. If the staff was more responsive and smiled, the trip would have been a ten. The hairdryer in our room failed to work. I reported that and the desk clerk seemed unconcerned.

Excellent service, conveniently located, with comfortable rooms. Also great variety on hot breakfast buffet, not just coffee and donuts. Bathrooms are a little dated but very clean and no issues. Refrigerator and microwave an added bonus. No in room safe.

The staff is not helpful, friendly, nor communicative. Especially regarding reservation errors, which they should offer solutions for. I did not get the room I requested, and the staff was not empathetic nor helpful in fixing the problem.

We stayed here with 21 family members in town for a wedding. Our room was fine for a motel, but I don't like the Best Western signature chunky pillows. And it was like water torture to be in the bathroom, where you could hear some water valve turn on and off every 20 seconds - but you couldn't hear it from the bedroom, which saved my sanity. (Room 172). The roll-away bed we added for one night was HORRID! We had to put the extra person in the King Bed with us or they wouldn't have gotten any sleep. But at least we were walking distance to grocery stores and restaurants and drug stores. Breakfast was better than we expected it would be - had it five times!

We had a lovely time at Best Western Gold Country. Check in was quick. Location was near highway but not too close for comfort. Near stores and restaurants. The breakfast buffet was good and the person maintaining the breakfast made sure everything was clean and full.

this is a very old motel. I stayed 3 days and am sorry I did so. my first night at 6 PM there was no hot water. turned the hot water faucet on and waited five minutes. it never even got lukewarm. I called the front desk. it rang 3o times on a friday eve at 6 PM and no answer,,,,,,,hot water was a problem for all three days. sometimes I had it, but usually not.....mosquitos also a problem. and when the maid came in to clean my room every day, she brought a big German Shepherd into my room with her scary!!!!!

This was a good choice. Room clean and good location. Best Western usually has a good breakfast, this one not so much. Plenty of bacon and sausage, but the eggs resembled wallpaper paste. The beverages are in a separate room from the food, but they are available 24hrs. Location a bit noisy, but there were a lot of evacuees there escaping the fire so a lot was going on, it may not always be this noisy. I would stay here again. Very friendly staff. Good WiFi, but my phone had NO cell service. My sister's phone was fine. We had a pizza delivered from Lamppost. Pizza was delish, but it took 1 1/2 hours and they're across the street from the hotel.

Great accomodations and they took in evacuees from the fire!! Wonderful and inspiring!! I would come back here any time I am in the area! The staff are so accommodating and caring. The pool is great and they have a hot tub. It's all here.

Very clean motel, with excellent breakfast. Only complaint would be the freeway noise, and with the fan on it was mostly blocked out. The breakfast was quite good, with scrambled eggs, potatoes, waffles as well as cold cereal and drinks. In room internet was free, but slow.

We stayed 2 nights here and the room was not cleaned after the first night. When we reported it they sent towels to our room. Not what we expected. The breakfast was fake eggs and Mc Donald sausages. The bagels are the best choice.

The room was very generic and basic but the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had no vent so got really steamed up and the toilet was very small! The floor had not been cleaned properly as hair was found behind the door. The breakfast was very basic and could be improved on. The hotel is close to the Fairgrounds so is in a good location but that was all I can recommend it for.

First time in Grass Valley and decided to stay here. Was a great hotel, friendly staff and a wonderful HOT breakfast! Store across the street and restaurants within walking distance too. Will stay here again when in the area.

Poor wifi availability, Problematic cell service. Allow smoking outside rooms causing smoke to come into other people's rooms. Don't have bread for toast during the breakfast hour. Do not keep supplies like TP & tissue in bathroom next to breakfast room. They get notice of water being turned off during the night but don't bother to tell guests who may need water to take meds with in the middle of the night so bring your own water just in case.

We were able to get a room last minute when my father was put in the hospital. Without having the time to check out the hotel prior were we very happy with the cleanliness of the room and hotel in general. The breakfast was very good with lots of options. They also had complimentary bottled water available.

There are so many things to like about this hotel, but one flaw seems to be overtaking the rest. It is not a clean place. It smells dirty, it is dirty. Things don't get cleaned right away. The rest of the service is wonderful. We complained about the smell in our first room and we were moved to a cleaner, nicer room. But still, it was not really up to standards. And there was an old hotdog on the ground just a couple of doors down, for a day and a half! Had to walk by it regularly. I was not confident about the cleanlines of breakfast, either, but the service was with a smile and always making sure the coffee was ready. Grateful to the staff for the relational part. Perhaps some of that energy could be spent on making the place nice, too.

Friendly staff, rude owner. Have your credit card ready - absolutely no cash deposit! A hold will be put on your card for the amount of the stay. The room was clean and the bed comfy except it had a pipe sticking out from under the mattress. I tripped on it taking a header into the wall and ending up on the floor seeing stars. No apology offered by staff. Best suited for business. Many stores and restaurants across the street. Terrible, cheap, and very loud A/C units. Gave me a migraine which ruined most of my stay. Fuzzy t.v reception, really in 2017?? Wi-fi no problem. Nice clean little pool, jacuzzi and mini-gym. Best free breakfast ever. Truly a full breakfast and yummy waffles! Will never stay again and do not recommend. Due to very loud air conditioner, fuzzy tv, pipe under bed, and rude owner. Tips for travelers - always ask if A/C unit is loud and if it has a thermostat. It can really make or break a vacation or business trip.

Stayed 4 nights and it was quiet until Saturday night. People, probably kids, running up and down the halls. Pool was not heated. Great location. Was near the freeway but hardly heard freeway noise. Great restaurant, Paulettes country kitchen, right across the street

Great place to stay. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice king size bed. Breakfast was very nice with a lot of choices including fresh fruit. The only down was I didn't like their coffee too strong for me

The room was nice, everyone I dealt with was friendly. The place was packed with road workers with big trucks so parking was scarce. Really my only complaint was the remote to the TV didn't work, which is fine but when I called the front desk to report it, I was given instructions on how to use the TV manually???? I also reported it not working the next morning and when I checked out a day later it still was NOT working. The breakfast was good, lots of variety.

I said in my previous comments how amazing this place is. I would stay at that one again anytime and recommend it to everyone. the room was great the staff was even better and the pool was a perfect little plus for my kids.breakfast was EXCELLENT and made my morning smooth and stress-free just what we all want on vacation) the staff was great with my kids and the maids were so sweet and funny. they even gave me a couple extra make up wipes ( genius idea BW) I always forget them on my travels. I have told so many people that this hotel is a perfectly tucked away little gem near lots of little shops and a grocery store. THANK YOU best western I can't wait to come back again soon. This older hotel boasts a few single story rooms with enough room under the exterior door for small critters to crawl in to join you. The decor is aged and in need of a major face lift. The bedding crinkled made me feel as though the linen had not been changed. I would not stay here again. Staff seemed uninterested in being friendly.

Great location, great pool and hot tub, family friendly. We went to Grass Valley for the fair and it was centrally located, comfortable beds and we had two rooms which was an excellent bonus traveling with the family. I have stayed at this location several times before and have always enjoyed it for these reasons.

I hate to give a average review to a business that have such caring, pleasant employees but... This motel is right off of the freeway even though you will not be bothered by the noise. The grounds are taken care of and a small, clean pool awaits. The parking in adequate and they provide a full breakfast in the lobby at no cost. The rooms are adequate in size with a refrigerator and microwave but no table and chairs are provided to eat. There is a great exercise center and a self-serve laundry. The major problem is the cleanliness of the floors throughout the entire facility. Our carpeting was filthy and looked very old even though we were told that it was only one year old. All public bathrooms were un-swept and dirty. Our bathroom had an empty beer can in the corner left for us as well as the hair on the floor. I am hoping that more care is provided to the rest of the cleaning. The man working when we checked in on Wednesday, August 2 in the afternoon went out of his way to provide excellent service to us by searching for and providing us with a portable fan because I cannot sleep without a fan and had forgotten mine. He really saved my stay and helped make it pleasant. I want so much to give a higher score but just cannot. If you can overlook the dirty floors this is an excellent and comfortable place to stay.

The staff was pleasant and tried to accommodate to your needs. The property is beginning to show some age and wear, although the grounds were well kept and the rooms were clean. The motel itself, is somewhat removed from the downtown area and other activities in the historic area of Grass Valley. Only one close by restaurant which was mediocre at best. A little pricey for the area and acommodations

Best Western Gold Country Inn, Grass Valley, CA, offers quiet, clean, comfortable rooms, efficient check-ins, and a full breakfast with hot and cold menu options, served promptly at 6:00 a.m., enabling travelers and business folks to start their day early. We did have a bit of a problem connecting to WiFi, because the hotel was in the process of switching from one service to a better, faster version. By now they will have completed the transfer, offering a strong, speedy signal in every room. It's a delightful stay!

We had excellent caring service. We loved our clean room and the pool .?The breakfast was excellent . Loved the waffles cand fresh fruit. We asked for a different pillow and got one promptly. My family has been staying here since the it was called the Gold Country Inn. The location is near local groceries restaurants and gas stations.Highly recommend.

Adequate for a crash pad. Whole family stayed here instead of another nearby place. We'd been here before, but this time we thought we might get a better location because we booked 5 rooms 2 months in advance. If you're just passing through it's an adequate place to stay. If you're planning a family event, maybe not. Not what I'd call a destination accommodation.

What a pleasure to wake up each morning and enjoy such a lovely and fresh beaskfast! We found your place quiet and charming with a great feeling of privacy even though we were right off the highway. Thanks for the stay, we would stay again if in the area.

Had a great stay at this hotel. 2-room suite was perfect for our small family plus dog. Perfect for 4th of July weekend. Love that they allow dogs at Best Western hotels - makes it so much easier to come back and enjoy again!

We always stay here when in Nevada City. Incredible variety for breakfast, friendly staff, quality wifi connection, nice pool. Location is very central, ample parking, and large property. Highly recommend!

We showed up around 1 pm and they had a room that they let us check-in. Front desk very helpful! This is a dated Best Western. All entrances were outside and 2 stories. Didn't look like the photo. Breakfast was marginal for a Best Western.

This is an older property that has had a handful of upgrades over the years. The interior of the rooms is fairly modern while the exterior maintains it's rustic charm. The breakfast is decent bordering good, but that's all I can give it unless they take a little extra care in upgrading the quality of the food that they serve. Would also be nice if they cleaned things up a little bit to get rid of the lingering stale odor of many past meals. When the hotel is full, the parking lot is insufficient for the number of vehicles on property. Parking spaces should be assigned based on your room to avoid forcing someone to park on the opposite side of the property for the room they are in. The mental neophytes with their phallic extensions, otherwise known as off-road vehicles, should be forced to park off-site.

Housekeepers were clearly not happy with pay rate that was apparently below minimum wage. Our room (160) at check-in had a dirty/used bar of soap in the tub/shower and leaves and pine needles on the carpet. The room was not serviced in our absence at all after the 1st of 4 nights. Front desk clerk by his statement had no one to provide service at about 6:30pm when advised.

Hotel is very nice. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful and nice. The hotel is located in a nice area in Grass Valley. Close to Nevada City which has a lot of nice shops to go to. I would also recommend stopping at Three Forks Brewery, a very nice place to get something to eat and have a beer.

Large family get together for a wedding. Swimming pool electricity/filtering broke down last day but pool still available. Bathroom fan dysfunctional but we never reported it. Night clerk was especially fantastic (J.C.), Breakfast staff were just okay, not very friendly and didn't keep up very well with replacement of food items, especially in the last hour.

I stay at Best Westerns regularly. Overall the quality of the rooms, bedding and breakfast is,always reliable. This one is no exception. The outside appearance is very nice but the room rates seemed a bit extreme. It was probably 30-40% higher than the average rates. Not sure why. Perhaps location I suppose but just seemed a bit over the top.

Room 165, a double queen room. First, bathroom overhead light didn't work. Promptly fixed, but why didn't housekeeping report this. TV would not turn on, either with remote or direct button on TV. Again fixed promptly. A couple of insects discovered in the bathroom. Toilet needed to be coaxed into actually flushing contents. Free breakfast seemed adequate but best breakfast in town across the street at Paulette's Country Kitchen, ich we patronized. Plus factor is location, with CVS and Safeway across the street. Overall, nothing great, but nothing terrible either.

This hotel is in a great location but it is only average at best. The room was a large suite with a separate bedroom, which was very nice. From a cleanliness standpoint the room was ok but, except for the office entrance, the exterior of the property needs a lot of work and the entire property needs to be refreshed. The service was also poor; we were gone all day and when we returned at around 5:00 pm our room hadn't been serviced, when I called the front desk he said that all the housekeepers had gone home for the day but he would be happy to bring us some towels; it was clear he was the only person on duty for this property. The complimentary breakfast was ok but the space is small and very crowded. Would probably look for somewhere else to stay in the future.

This Best Western, Gold Country inn, is quite excellent. I must admit that it has one of the best breakfasts you'll ever encounter. I highly recommend this hotel but book early because everyone else also knows this is so good.

Our room was broken into, and valuables were stolen. The staff didn't seem even slightly surprised at this. Teens with fowl mouths who weren't actually staying there occupied the pool, and...the room had fleas. Worst Western is a more appropriate name.

Basic average little hotel. Check in was easy, clerk was friendly. Room was fine but nothing overly special. Beds were clean and comfortable. Plenty of towels. Carpet needs to be replaced but not disgusting by any measure. Got a decent nights sleep. Stayed on the ground floor, could hear the people above us walking around and people walking and talking outside. I would stay here again but just know that this hotel is what it is....

Grass Valley Best Western offers clean and comfortable rooms. The staff was extremely helpful. There was a good selection of items for the breakfast. Very helpful staff. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area.

Having stayed at this motel previously I was less satisfied with my stay. Check in was confusing and finding my room confusing. Check out made up for the poor check in experience. Woman on duty was pleasant, friendly and very helpful. Location is great.

First clerk tried to give a the wrong room and it was being worked on. New room didn't look clean had odor, bathroom was dirty, carpets were stained and looked dirty. Internet didn't work properly. Stayed two of the three nights booked. Refused to stay the third night left to find new room in another hotel chain for the third night in the area.

This Best Western appeared a bit dated, though the room was clean except for a used coffee grounds cup still in the coffee maker and the TV remote did not work. As we arrived rather late in the evening, we had to drive all over the parking lot to find two open spaces.

We got to the Best Western in Grass Valley around 8:30 in the evening and they had all three of our rooms ready to go. Two regular rooms and one “accessible” room. I can't report on their breakfast, though, as we went over to our relatives for a sourdough pancake breakfast instead. (They've had the same starter for forty years.) Our room had the usual equipment that is expected in a room these days – refrigerator, microwave, and hair dryer. There was an iron and ironing board in a nice-sized closet and there were outlets for charging electronics on all the lamps (desk and nightstands). The bed was easily accessible from both sides which is a forgotten touch in too many motels these days. The main area was very clean and definitely comfortable. The carpet in the room was very clean but unfortunately, there were a couple of stains in the carpet between the microwave and the bathroom sink. I'm not being critical of the motel here. You have to offer in-room coffee these days so you just can't avoid it. Besides the stains, that carpet was clean. The highlight was the bathroom. They had one!! Too many motels these days split the bathroom with a sink and counter out in the room and the tub and toilet crammed into a space smaller than a closet. (I never know if I should stand in the tub to close the door or stand on the toilet to close it.) Although I am only on crutches right now, I know that a wheelchair is somewhere in my future so I pay attention to rooms from that standpoint. The bathroom here was absolutely great – there were grab-bars for the toilet and grab-bars in spades for the tub. Most motels will have only one set of grab-bars in the tub. The room had two sets—one for a person able to stand with some help, and one lower set for a person taking a bath. Note two soap dishes as well. And an absolutely brilliant stroke was putting the shower control handle off-center so it was closer to the edge of the tub. A person in a wheelchair can get at it a lot easier (see the picture below). It's the first time I've seen that and wish I had it in my tub at home. The other item of note was the bath bench for the tub. Until this year, I have only seen a bath bench one other time. The other bench was put across the bottom edge of the tub using a piano hinge and a slab of plywood. This bench is very well crafted and carefully thought out. It had cushioning to protect the tub from the metal framing, solid hinges, and a latch to hold it out of the way when it is not in use. A pat on the back for a good design job!!! There was an issue that did get our attention the next morning before we left. The property next door was having a basement put in and the backhoes started work at seven in the morning. We were up by then so it didn't matter to us. By the time you read this, they'll be long gone so it's nothing to worry about. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here the weekend of May 20-21. The staff person at the front desk was friendly and polite, the room was clean, quiet and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was good and there were a variety of foods to choose from.There is a grocery store across the street and other little shops, like a yummy yogurt shop. It is a short drive to downtown Gras Valley, Nevada City and the Empire Mine Historic Park. We will choose to stay here again.

Located between Grass Valley and Nevada City. and across the street from a small shopping center. A short drive to the Empire Mine and many restaurants in the area. When checking in as for a quite room as there is construction right next door. We had a very quite room in the back of the Inn.

After 5 minutes of a cold shower, we called the front desk and got this answer "Uh yeah, we need to replace the hot water heaters in that whole building. Sometimes you have to turn on the sink at the same time to get hot water in the shower." So much for getting important information during check-in. VERY unimpressed. It may be clean, but between the smell of weed wafting through the walls and the hot water issues, I'd rather stay somewhere else.

We always stay here when visiting my elderly auntie. Great location, clean room, friendly staff, good value. Even had a suite with a separate bedroom so my husband didn't wake me up at 5am. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Our room was clean. The beds were comfortable. Safe way store and restaurant across the street. Pet friendly with an Outdoor pool. Breakfast was ok nothing to brag about. Located in between Grass Valley and Nevada City. Front desk person was friendly. In the 90s today, air conditioning kept room cool.

This property is overpriced for the age. We had a no smoking room but people 2 doors stood outside their rooms and smoked. No maps to show where the room was and the young man at the front dealers not friendly.

The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. Each and every one of them went out of their way to be helpful and meet our every request from an early check to loaning us a wine opener and scissors. The breakfast was well prepared and adequate.

Over all the hotel was OK the bed was comfortable, breakfast good/standard the hotel was clean enough, I would stay again there were a few minor issues that I think management can rectify & most likely if I stayed again would not notice issues. The hotel seemed to be slowly up grading.

stayed 4 days, key cards did not work each day, one time, twice in one day they had to be fixed, front desk, said 1st time they had checked us out by mistake, from then on just said, sometimes this happens. Large metal piece sticking out from frame, had to use our pillows to not bang into it, no maintenance to fix it until following day, Breakfast ran out of paper plates, told guest to try using a bowl, I pointed out they were located across from a supermarket, couldn't they get some, that led to staff discussion within earshot, of how to pay for it, and the "I'm not paying for them etc.". I would think there would be petty cash, since there is a coin laundry and vending machines on site. There was not one ashtray outside for smokers so cigarettes were thrown about.

Stayed at the Grass Valley Best Western Gold Country Inn for a week- good location, quiet in the main bldg., good breakfast each morning, clean, kept up well each day. Near freeway but not noisy (in the main bldg.), Worth a repeat.

We have stayed in several BW hotels, but this could be our last visit. The young men in t-shirts who run the desk never mentioned we'd be over-charged for our room by $100 - good luck getting it back!

Steven in the front office was very friendly and welcoming. He is an asset to your business, so take care of him and keep him. The room was clean, but some trash under the bed skirt was left from a prior guest. There was a hotwheel under the desk. This type of stuff doesn't really bother me. I mean if it was a dirty diaper or something I'd be upset, but a cup and a hotwheel I'm okay with. Housekeeping could've been a little more diligent. I will stay here again, and the only reason I didn't give it another star is because of the complimentary breakfast, not because it was bad or anything like that, it was actually quite good, it's because we came in 15 minutes before it was supposed to end and stuff was already put away. The guy who was putting it away had a little bit of an attitude about us wanting to eat. Then while he slammed stuff around in the kitchen it actually made me feel guilty for wanting to eat. Why advertise it to end at 10 if you're rip it all down at 9:45?

There was a hairball that came up in the tub in my sister's room, which disgusted her. My bed looked like someone had already slept in it. The key cards were pathetic; they just did not work properly. This was very distressing at 10:30pm when you had to walk all the way back to the office for a new one which might or might not work. There is a fair amount of street noise. There is no elevator so you have to lug your stuff upstairs. The night guy was not so pleasant. Everybody else was nice.

Nice clean and place to stay, parking was good, service was good, breakfast was ok, nothing to write home about. will probably stay here again due to the limited places in this area, Had a bad experience at another place and walked out.

The worst stay me and my family have ever experienced in a hotel. There was a group of rowdy people next to us up the whole night making loud noises and yelling. Me and another room with friends we booked at the same time with complained a total of 4 times and the staff talked to the people but did nothing further, and the noise went on till 3am. This was a terrible stay and never will be staying here again, nothing was done but a quick please quiet down and no rest or sleep happened for me and my family or the friends with that also complained to the staff.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was great...simple...but consisted of eggs, potatoes and bacon or sausage...oh and waffles...can't forget about the waffles... =~) Overall great stay.

We arrived on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving after a long 10 hour drive. We did not have a reservation and apparently they only had a couple of rooms left which led to the $230+ room. Nobody likes to be gouged but ok supply and demand I get it. We were tired and could not drive any further so we took the room. We ended up in smaller building detached from the main hotel. The walls were so thin that we could overhear a basic and not loud conversation in the room next to us that went well past midnight. The shower drained slowly. Something was scratching in the walls all night too, likely a mouse but we could not confirm. Otherwise it was pretty standard and ok. Also, I will never walk into a Best Western without a reservation again on a holiday weekend. I should have known better but it's sad to me when a business takes advantage of people like that. Since there are so many other options this is my last time going to a Best Western.

The property seems to have been built a few decades ago, but has been well taken care of and the rooms are updated and clean. Hotels with paper/plastic water cups and Styrofoam coffee cups are an indicator of quality for me, Glassware and ceramic coffee mugs just seem to indicate a greater degree of care for the client. This property had the former. Coffee maker, refer and MW were in residence. The breakfast was excellent - scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage and "home-fried" spuds were a plus along with the usual fare. Very friendly staff. Reasonable rate for the "neighborhood". Found on Hotels.com. Try to stay away from the rooms at the very rear of the property as they abut the freeway and are a bit noisy. All-in-all, a good stay. Oh - the wi-fi was fairly fast.

Great breakfast, bed exceptionally comfortable, appreciated the very flexible and convenient shower head, and staff very friendly. I always stay BW and have stayed at this one repeatedly over many years.

Check-in was a breeze and staff was very courteous. Room was quiet and well maintained. Sometimes the toilet would run continuous unless we shook the handle. Refrig made loud popping noises when running. My fault for not mentioned it to staff. However the overall experience was good.

Clean and fairly quiet. Nice staff and breakfast included and pretty decent food, waffles, toast eggs bacon fresh fruits waffle toppings and more. The front desk staff is very informative on what to do and where to go. There is a pool onsite and the exterior of the building has been kept up properly. Decent price for everything you need. Located between grass valley and nevada city a couple miles to each city.

My 96 year old Mom in law needed a downstairs room and the hotel staff took extra care to make it happen. The room was priced well and clean. The free breakfast was GREAT ! I The breakfast burritos were especially good...thanks Gold Country Inn.

I was there on business so I stayed about a week, they had a hot breakfast with different items so I didn't have to eat the same thing every day, that was nice. The room was comfortable and the staff were nice, and it was half the price as the place down the street!

Stopped at Best Western Gold Country Inn on the way home from a business trip. I had a nice clean room and restful night. I left early the next morning and it wasn't until I arrived home that I realized I had left my backpack in the room with all my medication. I called the hotel and them sent my pack the next day via UPS. Everything was still in the pack, including my travel money. Thank you to Genny my housekeeper, Sharon her boss and management for their honesty and help.

Traveling with family for an event - We had a double queen room upstairs - no elevator - the room, at first appearance looked somewhat updated - however the bathroom fixtures were outdated, color toilet and older style tiles in shwoer, but the toilet flushed well and the water pressure for the shower was fantastic, however it had not been dusted in at least a month - there was heavy dust on the table tops, table bottoms, headboards - the room had an odor to it, it was a rainy weekend, and I had to keep the AC on to keep the odor at bay. - However, we had a heavily discounted rate and our stay was for two nights, as long as there were no critters running around I was okay with the dust. The room was dry and away from the freeway, so the noise was less, but not optimal. The breakfast was okay, the coffee in the lobby was good. We had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door and housekeeping honored that. Even if I had the same rate, not quite sure if I would stay here again. The stairs on these older knees and luggage was a challenge.

Did not even say hello, did not state where the breakfast is or what time, did not explain wifi, did not say thanks, actually should not have that job. Other than that person the hotel was nice and the breakfast was ok.

Dog friendly and helpful staff. Stayed there a few times and will return again. Rooms clean and modern. We like BW hotels when traveling. Need to get reservations early during tourist season as these fill up first.

Outdated rooms and the safety latch was not functional. Too much unsavory activity in the parking lot. Not for the older traveler. Breakfast was decent. I was uncomfortable enough to before the second night. It is place for out of town workers and they are cool. It is just not cool for the average traveler in my opinion.

Toilet did not work. No solution offered. Very unhelpful staff. All they did was complain about management and tell us to call him when we got home. Maids did not clean or make up room in between the two nights we stayed there.

The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean, and comfortable. Internet is wireless and strong Breakfast is so so, but sufficient. The location is very central in town, also close to Nevada City and surroundings.

I have stayed many times at the Best Western in Grass Valley on Sutton. The service has always been excellent; the room clean, the equipment functioning well. It was quiet each time!! And the staff has been cooperative, courteous, and helpful. This hotel is excellent value for anyone visiting or traveling through Grass Valley.

I have been staying in this facility for the KVMR Celtic Festival for seventeen years. This year the counter staff screwed up my reservation and refused to provide me with one of the rooms they had promised. I have arthritis and was placed on the second floor which meant I was in pain the entire stay. The facility has no elevator. The counter staff were extremely rude to me when I pointed out the problem.

Hotel is fine just bring your own pillow- hard and square staff easy to talk with and courteous .rooms are clean notice had a breakfast in lobby -didn't try it though close to a few stores if need anything small clean pool and hottub

Very pleasant place and staff easy location on and off the road. We came to Grass Valley for a family wedding. Ted the front desk person was very helpful and very pleasant and even got us in a little earlier to our rooms so we could make the wedding in time. Thank you

Lovely setting in the pines but access to city services. Excellent breakfast in quiet peaceful areas. Efficient and courteous service at check-in and check-out. Offered to call me when room was prepared as I was very early. Reasonable price accommodation in the Gold Country. You will enjoy

The hotel appears clean and staff was friendly. The area is also clean. The wireless internet did not work in our room and we had to go out in the parking lot to use it. There were several incidents during the weekend. A friend's trailer was broken into and items were stolen. Drug deals happening in the parking lot. People high on drugs in the lobby during the night with no BW employee in sight resulting in a visit from the police. All this for a high price. There were a large group of us that were there for a meetup and we will never stay there again.

The hotel was exactly what we had in mind for the first part of our trip. Everything was fine and the stores and restaurants in the immediate area were a nice find. As an added bonus there was a hot rod show at the fairgrounds nearby. Nice people and cool cars.

Great, friendly staff. Great breakfast. Clean towels. Pool and hot tub. WiFi is good. Beds are a little to hard for comfort. Nice location. Sap from the trees is a downfall. Fresh air. Close to several fast food locations. Nice scenery.

I had booked this stay through booking.com. I cancelled it the same way in plenty of time and should not have been charged, yet they this manager charged me, including tax. I called and left a message for the management on Saturday. The manager did not call me back until Monday and said he never received the cancellation. This is hard to believe, since everything is done online. If I received a cancellation confirmation, he should have also. I have been told by booking.com that they will reimburse me if the motel will not reverse the charge, but I expect that will take some time. This manager is deceitful and not to be trusted. Good luck if you decide to stay.

First let me say, we are Marriott people. But due to availability issues reserved a room at the Gold Country Best Western for 2 nights in late August. I had also joined their membership to use them as a backup hotel chain. We had late arrival - the reception agent was not that friendly. When we entered our room it smelled of either stale cigarette smoke or animal and it smelled this way throughout our 2 day stay. This hotel does take dogs - in fact this was the week end of the Gold Country Kennel Show and the place was filled with dogs, no problem. The carpet was dirty and badly stained. The rest of the room was clean. The mattress was too firm for me. They do offer a free breakfast, but the room is too small for the number of guests, the offering limited, and hot food was lukewarm. I will not use Best Western as my backup hotel chain in the future as this was supposed to be a BW Plus hotel and not up to that standard.

When we got to our room we soon realized the toilet was broken. We called the desk and an employee came by with a key for a new room. Rather then help in any way, this employee watched us struggle with bags to move (we'd already started unpacking a bit) and did absolutely nothing to help. No apology for the inconvenience, no help, no nothing. He actually threw the new key at me!

Toilet was loose or broken, causing it to shift when you sat down, which in turn caused the tank to leak water into the bow, wasting water. The guests upstairs sounded like they were bowling in their room all night. There are no pictures or artwork of any kind in the room, making it seem stark. The hotel is located near restaurants, businesses and the freeway, but not in the heart of Grass Valley or Nevada City

This hotel is a gem in gold country. I spent 3 weeks at this location. The staff is top notch. When my team and I came into the lobby the first morning be for 5am looking for coffee and it wasn't ready. I was told they would have it ready the next day for us and with out fail every morning there was fresh coffee at 4:45 including weekends WOW!! What service. The hotel grounds are well kept and clean. There is a nice place out back under the trees to set up a grill and relax in the evenings. (Bring your own grill). The pool is clean and inviting on hot afternoons. The hot tub looked nice but I never tried it. The room was nice and clean with microwave, fridge and flat screen TV. House keeping was outstanding. Make reservations early as it is easy to see why the book up often.

Nice place, easy to find except driveway is awkward. Good breakfast, appreciated the protein items for my low carb diet. I would not hesitate to stay here again. We were in a pet friendly room but the carpet just seemed really dirty. I felt it should be as clean as a regular room.

I staid here for two nights. Room was comfortable and clean. Bed was med-firm, but not really different then most motels. It's a standard spring mattress with minor pillow top. Rooms are broken up into three or four separate buildings away from main office/breakfast area. Only bad thing is the Wi-Fi is weak (I had a room furthest away from office) and the motel is in a Verizon dead zone, so don't try to have lengthy phone calls over your cell phone as chances are the call will drop in and out a lot. But I don't fault the motel for this, it's the nature of the geography for where it's located. Breakfast is great. It's a warm breakfast with eggs, waffles, sausage and the standard cold offerings as well as fruit and yogurt. So, to sum up, wi-fi is weak if your not near the office, and cell reception is spotty for Verizon, but grounds are nice, lobby is spacious, rooms are clean and modern, breakfast is great and the price is competitive for the area.

Pine trees give this venue an aromatic mountain smell without having to go to the mountains. Clean hotel. We stay there frequently as a getaway. The room was quiet and comfortable. The internet was very fast.

"High speed" internet was slow, and disconnected multiple times per hour. Unable to stream at all, and had to re-sign in multiple times per day. Water pressure in shower was barely a trickle, it was very hard to get clean. Toilet did not always flush properly. At least teh air conditioning worked, it was 100 degrees outside.

The motel was very clean, friendly. They accepted our two dogs which is not always the case when one is taveling. Our room was very clean and spacious.The grounds were well taken care of, with an area we coul take the dogs to do their buisness.

I, and my co-workers, normally stay at this hotel when in Grass Valley, but will not more. This time, it was horrible. I had requested a downstairs room because I have MS and was given an upstairs room, VERY DANGEROUS. The air conditioning in the room worked more like heating. They moved me to a room right next door, which was nice, except the door in that room was off the hinges and the plumbing was messed up.

bathroom had no towels and it was apparent the bathroom floors were not cleaned. No toilet paper which i took from the lobby bathroom. When i asked the hotel desk for towels they told me to go to housekeeping and pick up shower towels. Upon arrival no staff and no towels. My daughter and i used hand towels to dry off.

Stayed here multiple times. Housekeeper threw away my wallet and a hundred dollars worth of clothes on Easter. The hotel did NOTHING about this. More recently I booked this hotel through a 3rd party website that specifically states the hotel CANNOT charge my card without me physically being in the building. Under incredibly unfortunate circumstances I was not able to make it to the hotel. They charged my card. $187.00. I was never there. This hotel is known in grass valley to steal and leave dirty rooms. I booked this room as a LAST RESORT. And they STOLE my MONEY. After contacting the hotel over the charges I was referred to the general manger Hamid Kazemi who never responded. My lawyer read over the policy and unfortunately for them, THEY DO owe me the money. they never had the right to charge my card without me physically being in the building with my ID. This business is operating illegally. I suggest before listing your company to 3rd party websites you read the policies thoroughly, because in this case Best Western is in the WRONG.

Nice people in a very pretty area. Comfortable accommodations, decent breakfast and pleasant staff. Would recommend for a short visit to the downtown area as well as outdoor hiking & river recreation. We stay at BW a lot and this is a basic but nice hotel.

Hotel is situated near a bunch of things we wanted to do in Gold Country: Nevada City, Donner Pass, South Yuba State Park. The staff was friendly and helpful and the area around the hotel has stores, Starbucks, etc. Would definitely stay there again when I'm in the area.

Came to Grass Valley from SoCal for a wedding. Enjoyed our stay at Best Western very much. Friendly staff, good breakfast, and comfortable bed. Only thing that could have helped was more considerate neighbors. To noisy at night and in the morning. Woke us up a 6 am. But, overall, a very pleasant stay.

We decided to head the opposite direction for our anniversary weekend this year, usually spent at a beach. So we picked Nevada City because neither of is has ever been. My first choice was a B&B and with many to choose from it made it difficult. With that and the temperature hovering at 100° I know my wife would appreciate the possibilities of a pool since she would have the ocean close by. So I decided on the Gold Country Inn, mostly because we haven't really gone wrong picking a BW hotel and from there would scout all of the B&B's for a return visit. Although it is adjacent to the freeway we heard very little noise, probably because of the way our room, 134, was situated. It is not the typical layout of a hotel and fits in nicely with the surroundings. This is a dated hotel but they have done very well in keeping it up-to-date. Rooms were good size with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker....... Both of us thought the bed was very comfortable. Although the pool/spa closes at 10pm, I would like to see them add a 10-11pm, adult only time as both days happy kids were occupying both until closing time. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We will visit this location again ! The staff was gracious and helpful, the rooms are basic yet clean and accompdating. The breakfast that is offered is absolutely amazing I have never had such a wide variety of food offered at a hotel before. Overall we would highly recommend this location.

The Best Western in Grass Valley, CA is clean and comfortable but their pillows are really firm...bring your own. They also offer a free do-it-yourself breakfast that includes cook-your-own waffles, fresh fruit, eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, cereals, toast, coffee, etc. Good value.

This motel is right next to the highway. Nothing they can do about that. It is being updated and the lobby in nice. However, the room design is dated and tacky. Security can be an issue if you want to open your door as the screens do not latch. There is no significant barrier between rooms on the 2nd floor balcony. Another security drawback. Our room had a strong greasy mechanical smell that could have come from the wall cooling unit. Breakfast was good but I didn't feel the hotel was typical of Best Western standards.

First of all, my family and I booked this hotel because my grandparents had stayed there previously while vacationing in Nevada City. They told us that the service was good, the hotel was pet friendly, and it was not far from Nevada City where the Independence Day parade would be held. I was on board, until we walked into the lobby of the hotel. The gentleman up at the front desk acted as if he didn't want to be there at all. I understand that, however, you do your best to welcome customers, and I did not feel welcome. The room was average, it smelled a little, which was weird, but after a couple of hours you become nose blind to it. We didn't spend too much time in the room, so that was a plus, but I expected a little more out of this place.

We checked in and went out for the evening. Upon return, we discovered that the interior sliding lock had slipped "on", so we could not get into the room. We stood around for two hours until midnight while the desk clerk tried to figure out a way to let us in. We were put into another room (our clothing and toiletries were in the old room, so no access) and told to wait for the maintenance person in the morning. In the morning, there was no sense of urgency to get this done. We went and found the maintenance guy ourselves and pushed to get this done. When we suggested that they should discount the room, they said that we already had a discounted rate, so no discount AND was told that the manager would call me to discuss this. The manager has not called me. Nor has he responded to my email of three days ago. I may have had a discounted rate. But, people who paid more could at least get into their rooms.

We often travel with our dog and have been consistently pleased with Best Westerns for that purpose. Their pet policies are reasonable and the rooms are comfortable for everyone. The Gold Country Inn was no exception. The room wasn't deluxe but everything worked, the dog was happy, there was a nice place for us to walk him and the staff and breakfast were very good.

We had a great experience here: the staff was friendly and went out of their way to assist us. We brought our dog with us, and this hotel was very pet friendly. Not located in town or anywhere you'd want to walk, but 4 minutes outside of it, with lots of amenities and conveniences nearby (including 24 hour store). As someone who typically chooses historic hotels or small inns in town, I was surprised to enjoy this hotel so much and think it was the better move. It still has local charm. Good free breakfast and internet. Love the lobby cookies. Room was comfortable and nice looking out over lawn. Pool area also pleasant.

Little things would have made this be a different review - like a clean room. I had to pick up a dead bug off the floor, then a popcorn kernel. There was a white stain (yuck) on the quilt. There was a burnt out ceiling light and dead flies or gnats on the window sill. I requested a different room. That room was ok but I could run my finger across the table and the dust that was removed by my finger left a trail. There was also left over milk, cheese and soda in the frig from the previous people. And one more little irritation - I did not know about the breakfast in the lobby. Maybe that was my fault but that would have been the professional thing to announce upon arrival.

Best Western Gold Country Inn is a best kept secret. It's tucked into a small setting in Grass Valley. There is easy access to the major highway that provides access to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It's also very close to grocery and other miscellaneous shops that might be useful during your visit. Amenities are outstanding. The breakfast is over-the-top outstanding. The staff is courteous and helpful. If you're visiting California's Gold Country, I recommend staying at this hotel.

I had a great experience in one of their "newly renovated"king rooms. my only complaint was the eggs in the breakfast. I couldn't help but think they were some sore of mix. I stuck with the waffles and FRESH FRUIT and was quite happy.

Nice big room,clean and comfy. What i like about best western rooms, they are pretty consistent. The rooms are set up with a frig,big screen tv,microwave, and dresser for clothing. Only bummer was our carpet was wet by the door. The Employee there said that part of carpet was just washed. It was fine. Everything was fairly new. Got a quiet good night sleep after traveling for 6 hours. They have nice pool and jacuzzi on back side.

While doing a grocery store remodel in Grass Valley CA, I was able to stay at my tried and true Hotel chain as the Best Western in Grass Valley was located right across the street from my job site, It is very comfortable, and the employees are very friendly and helpful. they have a good warm breakfast with eggs sausage, & hash browns. I have stayed there at other times for leisure and it is always inviting. Nice pool area, and close to downtown Grass Valley and Nevada City.

We made reservations for this motel while sitting in the parking lot of a Safeway--traveling down the road and trying to find something for the night. We've always had good luck with Best Western motels; it seems they require a certain amount of amenities, cleanliness, etc. in order to be branded Best Western, so took a chance on this property. From the outside, it's not much, but once inside, the room was GREAT, breakfast was really good, it's within super easy walking distance of a wonderful Mongolian barbeque place, a Mexican place (we didn't go there so cannot vouch for it) and a divine little spot that serves Peets Coffee in the morning. (We got the coffee for the road after our very good breakfast at the Best Western, which also had great coffee.) I really loved the room--recently re-done according to the front desk staff--super quiet, very clean, updated bedding and very comfy sleep. Internet was lightning fast and reliable, which is something we also love about Best Westerns. It's right off Ca. 20, near a small shopping district (Walgreens, etc.), and in a very quiet, tree-shaded spot. This is a nice, very clean, very comfortable, affordable place to stay in Grass Valley. We will definitely stay there again when in the area!

This is one of two places that I stay in Grass Valley. It is a nice place with all of the conveniences close by..food, gas, etc. The two queen room was very spacious. You didn't have to skirt by the suitcases and other stuff one brings into a room. We had a room with only one neighbor and it was very quiet for such a large hotel. A separate toilet area is good for families and the separate vanity as well. Everything worked and we had no problems at all.

We have stayed here twice in the past 3 months both times have been great. The breakfast is well run by the staff. The room price seemed high until we compared it to all the other hotel options in Grass Valley and it was on the low end. It is conveniently located in the Glenbrook basin. you can walk to any number of stores, restaurants and a movie theater.

We stayed here for 2 nights in April. Our room was very clean and updated. Nice size refrigerator, modern and clean furnishings. Quiet at night. Didn't use the pool area, but it looked pretty nice in passing. Good breakfast: make-your-own waffles w/variety of toppings, bagels w/cream cheese, danishes, fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns...we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food! Great location. Close to freeway, but didn't notice any freeway noise. Within walking distance of stores, coffee shops and restaurants. The wifi wasn't great, and the remote was a little finicky, but other than that, absolutely no complaints!!

An older Best Western, well kept up, and with the wonderful bonus of a sliding door at the back of the room that opened onto a lovely courtyard. Despite being near the highway, our room was very quiet. Clean, comfortable, good beds, nice staff - what's not to like.

The Check in / out process was quick and efficient. The room was clean, spacious, quiet, & had two (2) comfortable upholstered chairs (very unusual). The breakfast was the usual motel breakfast items, however, the food was fresh and taste good. There are restaurants, grocery stores, drug stores, & banks within walking distance. I was only at the Gold Country Inn for one night, but when I am back in Grass Valley, I will stay again.

They were remolding the hotel but it didn't bother us. The rooms were nice and comfortable. The had a nice assortment of breakfast food. We ate there every morning. There was a hot tub and pool, but we didn't use it. They also had a exercise room.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Best Western Gold Country Inn. It was clean and comfortable and located near many restaurants and shopping (Safeway, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid). The free breakfast was really delicious and offered good variety, and the hotel staff work hard to keep the property looking nice. It was conveniently located to the freeway to be able to get to Empire Mines State Park and many of the great hiking places near Grass Valley and Nevada City. I would definitely stay here again when I visit Nevada City or go hiking in this area.

We spent most of the time in Nevada City. ( 4 miles from B/W) All around good time, perfect. For old Gold towns on hwy 49, Grass Valley, and Nevada City No. 1 & 2. Nevada city coming in first.. The B/W is a good stop for both location, great service, breakfast, fast check in & out, great staff and price. Can't go wrong.

Not real clean, it was raining and you had to go thru ponds of water to get to the stairs. Cost of the room seem really high for the area and what you get in return. All in all I will not spend my dollars here again.

My husband and I were visiting friends in the area. We have been BW members for a long time and always choose BW if there is one where we will be staying. This one was nice and clean. The staff were helpful & friendly. We would stay here again when we are in the area.

Great stay! Highly recommend if you are in the Grass Valley/Nevada City area for business or pleasure. Clean, quiet, comfortable bed and close to everything. A definite YES for staying here again. Reasonably priced and helpful staff.

Rick at check-in and Nancy at breakfast did an excellent job on this trip for us. We almost always stay here. I have been coming to Grass Valley to see my daughter and grandson for almost 24 years. And the stay is great for the value everytime.

Internet works sporadically, the prepared breakfast items were unappealing including the cut up fruit and the room chairs were worn out. I would look for another hotel on my next visit to Grass Valley.

This property, while overall exterior appearance is good it is occupied by "rental residents" with a large number of homeless people using the grounds and dining room, etc. Staff was largely absent, rooms were old and in disrepair. Lots of noise from rental residents/guests upstairs. I wound not use this hotel again.

We stayed here for four nights recently. It is conveniently located though it may be hard to find if you don't know where it is. Though the hotel is located near the freeway there was a surprising lack of road noise. Unfortunately, we could here water running in the pipes in the walls. It wasn't loud, but it was there The room was very comfortable. Though it's January, we never had to turn on the heater, even when it was cold and frosty outside. The continental breakfast is pretty typical from what I have seen of Best Western Inns. There are scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns, you can make yourself a waffle. There is also oatmeal, several types of cereals and fruit juices, coffee and tea, bread to make toast with, pastries, and probably more. I'm sure you'll find something you like, but if you don't, there is a very nice breakfast and lunch restaurant across the street. The staff is friendly and helpful. The maid service did a great job as well.

I've stayed here many times because it has such a good location, comfortable beds, good prices and free breakfast close to my business meetings. I would recommend getting a room in the main building where the office is. Within walking distance of several restaurants, a small strip mall including Raleys, and a nice used book store.

Hotel is well located, close to shopping and dining. Rooms are clean, but are showing wear and age. Breakfast was average to good, potato logs were not so good, eggs and bacon were good. Overall the price was to high for the quality of stay. Have stayed in BW's for less that were better.

The staff was great, the room was clean, the Internet quick, refrigerator/microwave a plus, good value, the breakfast generous and the location superb. The mattress was uncomfortable and the facility/rooms were inherently dated but made over to maximize their appeal and comfort. It is this best of limited options available in this area any where near this price point. For that reason alone I would return

This hotel is listed as a Best Western Plus but after being at many plus Best Western hotels I would rate it a plain Best Western, The rooms are clean and the walls are painted but it is missing that something really nice that I have come to expect from a Best Western Plus hotel.. The staff was very nice and the hotel for a Saturday night is very quiet but it is "just a room" and there are no modern upgrades or outstanding features.

Exactly what I was looking for. Clean, easy to get to, good value, below the snow line but easy access to snow play. Close to restaurants and stores. Great staff. I have stayed there seven times and will use them again and again!

This is a good clean place to stay for families or singles. The free breakfast is filling and has a wide range of the usual motel breakfast items and then some. Always hot coffee in the lobby. Convenient location to the area attractions.

Basically imagine your typical motel 8 or Super 6 or Travelodge. Have a good mental picture of that? Now imagine paying $130. That is this hotel. It looks like a travelodge, not a Best Western. Room looks tired, nice TV but otherwise...eh. Sheets are clean but you can clearly see old stains. Room is well lit, but lights are dated. Heater barely works... its on high and we are still chilly (mid December). Wifi is suuuuper slow and drops connection every 5 min or so. Might just be where our room is, but for $130 a night... Too tired to complain to staff.

For some reason all the stays in Grass Valley/Nevada City are way over priced, even the dumpy hotels. Gold Country Inn is no exception. Too much money compared to other Best Westerns. The rooms are nice and fairly clean but the bed killed our backs. The breakfast is just so so. Don't understand the reason for charging $20 per reservation for a small pet. What do you get for that fee?

This was a very welcome place to stay, the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and nice. The breakfast had a lot of choices to choose from. It was in a very located place to where I had to go. Would go back again anytime.

You get what you pay for; no more. Fitness room was not very clean - no disinfectant wipes for cleaning used fitness equipment, no clean towels for customers, no waste baskets for trash nor used towels. Internet was intermittent. Breakfast was standard - Could offer freshly cut fruit and high protein/low-carb foods.

Enjoyed the flat screen tv the nice shower head where water came out really good nice view from room great location Close to restaurants grocery store downtown shopping. That's why we always stay at this motel

Ok stay, clean well maintained rooms that need updating. A little highway noise in room, but not bad. Very good customer service at the desk. Wifi was slow and we got dropped several times. Near shopping and restaurants.

This Best Western is a little rustic but is very clean and comfortable and offers a nice breakfast and is in a great location. It feels like a little condo complex instead of a hotel. The hotel manager was very welcoming and helpful as well. We will definitely stay here every time we visit Grass Valley!

I sated here for business from Sunday to Wednesday. The rooms are older with brown/tan toilets and tubs. The furniture is older along with the bedding. Check in was very fast and easy and the guy at the desk (I can't remember his name) was friendly. When I got to my room I couldn't change the tv to the hdmi port for my roku and had to go to the office to get a different remote to be able to change it. There was a spider on the ceiling and hair in the bathroom sink. This place has potential but just needs to be updated. I think with the spotty wifi and all this we will find another place to stay next time.

Hotel is clean and friendly. Food is terrible. Restaurant across the street is not bad albeit pricey. I'd stay here again if in town, but I'd get two rooms over a roll-away. They are not in good shape!

This is the second time we have stayed in this Best Western. I recently sought it out specifically because I felt it was clean the first time we stayed there 2 years ago. This is an older hotel/motel type place but they have taken the time to keep the rooms looking clean and kept up inside. The exterior of the buildings are also surrounded by tall trees as are common in Grass Valley. It gives it a nice calm feel. The hotel also serves a breakfast for those wanting it. There is also coffee and tea offered throughout the day. I forgot toothpaste this visit and was pleased to learn they stock a few supplies for their customers in need. Overall it was again a good experience. Typically I prefer more modern hotels but this one works and appears to be the most modern the immediate area has to offer.

We were in town for one night for a wedding but everyone was very friendly and the hotel was very clean and in a great location. I would stay there again if I happen to find myself in this small beautiful town.

I had pretty low expectations from this property when I checked in. It is obviously an older property, and I was initially concerned about cleanliness. I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the room. It was large, comfortable, and clean. There was a bit of cigarette smell to the room. Other than the price of the room, which was steep, the only complaint I have is with the parking lot. It was very tight. Oh, and the wifi was awful. We were there for two nights and I never managed to get a connection. It kept telling me that too many users were logged in.

Sort of my go-to when I cannot utilize Airbnb services. Always enjoy my stay except in the past few years you can no long request favorite rooms or, if you do, you can be bumped from request even on the a.m. of your arrival date, which has happened to me more than once. I might try other places due to this lack. Otherwise, have enjoyed here over the years. Very convenient to both Grass Valley and Nevada City, CA.. Note: when events in town, parking can be a bit of a problem in the evenings.

This was a very nice experience. booking was easy, breakfast was good (as good as if not better than a Best Western Plus)room was clean, Internet was good, and the gentleman at the front desk was very accommodating to requests. I would Definately recommend this place... And I'm usually a tough critic!

This hotel is somewhat dated, and in need of an entire makeover in décor, paint and cleaning protocols. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: an average to low average tourist hotel.
