The room was very clean and well appointed. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had an issue with the room which was quickly addressed and investigated. The breakfast options were plentiful and well stocked. All in all a good stay in a comfortable room.
Our stay was brief, the TV didn't work and the staff person at the front desk immediately came and fixed it. The breakfast was pretty good. The hotel was right off the interstate. The parking was good and close to restaurants and gas stations.
The room was nice and clean. There were plenty of complimentary items for bathroom use as well as the hot tub that was in the room. We loved the hot tub in the room! It was our whole rain for booking at this hotel! Plenty of towels. The staff was pleasant. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Beautiful room! We had the king suite. Beds are amazingly comfortable with big fluffy pillows. I'm a bathroom critic especially with showers for cleanliness…it was spotless. The decor of the hotel is great. Parking is never a problem. Front desk employee was very kind at our late night check in. These are my favorite hotels.
We were in Des Moines for the Iowa State Fair and our experience at this Best Western made the trip extra special. It was extremely clean, close to the highway, and added a lot of little extras that you don't get it other hotels. There's a beautiful back patio, where you can sit and enjoy drinks or possibly bring back dinner, the pool is extra clean and has comfortable furniture instead of the cheap plastic stuff I've seen elsewhere. Even the towels and toilet paper in the room were tied into little bows on our arrival. I would highly recommend this hotel for families or business travelers. While we were there, they were working on painting the outside of the building and updating windows so I only see more positive things to come for this hotel. I 100% would return.
The front desk staff was very kind and helpful. Our room was clean and well stocked, and the girls enjoyed the pool immensely. Breakfast was great, and had various Gluten Free options. The location was perfect for us as a break on a long trip! We will definitely plan to stay at this location again.
floor in handy cap rooms very slick [Cain would skid across the floor] due to flooring put in to aid in cleanup after pet owners. The night clerk explained the reason but with no sorry or I will change your room or concern about people. I have stayed here many times in the past and have been satisfied bu most likely will not stay here again.
Nice floors in the rooms (no carpet) and the breakfast was great. We enjoyed the breakfast and the rooms were great. I liked how clean the rooms felt since there was no carpet. Would definitely stay there again. We traveled with our baseball team.
The suites are the largest I've ever stayed in!!! Comfy pillows and very clean. It was a typical hotel breakfast but the best part was the yogurt machine to make parfaits!!' Front desk staff was great as well as the pool. If back in area this is my hotel of choice.
Great place . Treated us well. Room was very clean and nice. Breakfast was good. Had treats for our dog. Nice shower and bed. We stay every time we come to Des Moines. Easy access to the I80 and 235. Quick trip to downtown Des Monies. Also not to far to Ankeny.
Enjoyed the property. We had everything we needed and was extremely clean. Continental breakfast was not bad. Wide variety. Staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Family and I were extremely comfortable here.
This is a pretty nice hotel for the price. There were a LOT of families with young kids there and it was a bit chaotic and noisy but I requested a quiet room and the front desk obliged. It was still noisy but not nearly as bad as other areas. Room was very clean, bed comfortable, breakfast was normal, close to a lot of things.
A pleasant hotel with competent, friendly staff. The breakfast was excellent & early (6 am). The 24 hour Folgers coffee in the lobby was always fresh. The room refrigerator is much bigger than that provided by most hotels. It has a small freezer area & a refrigerator area big enough to store a few grocery items. The business center included a nice printer that had been well maintained. There wasn't a lobby area with upholstered furniture & a television, but this didn't matter to me. The dining room was situated by the front desk and it is big enough to double as a lobby. Breakfast was very nice & the area was spotless. Weaknesses are minor but I will mention them for those who might be interested & for constructive feedback to the owner. The hotel doesn't have a coin-operated washer-dryer but one is available at the hotel next door. I walked over there & used their business center while waiting. The hotel snack bar did not include anything but snacks. Most hotel snack bars these days sell healthy frozen dinners (i.e. Amys, Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine,) so I walked to the hotel a few feet in back of the Best Western Plus to buy one. There are restaurants within walking distance but my preference is that the hotel snack bar stocks a few healthy items that we can buy when there is bad weather or we have been driving all day. Lighting above the bathroom sink is not bright enough to see to put on make-up. I may throw a lighted make-up mirror in my car next time--not a big deal. This hotel is a good value & they have a nice loyalty points program. I will stay here again. I encourage the owner to consider adding a freezer to the snack bar area & some healthy frozen meals. I hate searching for a good restaurant in a strange city after dark or in bad weather. The hotel is located right next to a busy highway (I-35) but I didn't hear highway noise except when in the parking lot.
Hotel is good but personnel needs an overhaul. Rooms were nice and roomy but billing and breakfast needed help
Went for 1 night because we just came to see Tom Segura, nothing else planned. Hotel is located near a lot of great stores and restaurants. Also near a HyVee gas station and Kum & Go for easy gas on our way out.
Check in day there was no internet or phones. (Nothing done for us monetarily to compensate, just told "Use your hotspot on your mobile device"). First morning - the work out room is way too hot. I mentioned to the gal at the desk on my way back to my room that the temperature needed to be decreased for that room. Second morning - the work out room temperature was still the same. I mentioned to the dark-haired fellow, he said he would let the techs know. Third morning - the elevator was out of order (and remained out the rest of our stay) I don't mind doing stairs, but when you're carrying luggage down 3 flights it's really no fun. No towel rack in the bathroom. This is a puzzle. Not sure how a bathroom has no place to hang wet towels. We were there 4 nights and brought our own towels, but had to use hangers from the closet to hang them after showering. The shower drained very slowly. The room we were in had no direct USB plug ins and only a few available outlets in the room. Probably not too bad if you're just staying one night, but really need to be improved on for folks staying a few days. On-site laundry for guests would have been a nice addition. We had planned to do our laundry but that got “washed” out. Overall, the staff interactions I had were ok. Except for the check-in experience and when I asked a Cleaner for something, the staff were great. One exceptional staff is the young dark-haired fellow on third watch. Without his hospitality during my stay, I may have thought the staff were slightly rude or uncaring. This is our second long stay at this hotel in the past year. The hotel is clean, and this was really nice. The mini-refrigerator was a great plus, as well as the Keurig type coffee device. We had brought our own, along with a box of K-cups, but used the one provided.
Front desk gentleman that handles night shift is probably the best customer service you guys could ever have on board…went beyond and above for my gals and I. Much love. Thanks for hosting my family! We will definitely be back to stay again. For sure!
Fresh cut fruit was awesome. I ate enough to fill me up. The room was clean. WIFI was fast. nice parking
It was a nice hotel! Room was super spacious! The walls are kinda thin so when there were people running around outside our room it did sound like they were practically in our room. Breakfast was good, your typical breakfast at a hotel I did like that you could get cappuccinos and make waffles or pancakes. Also had prepackaged items like cinnamon rolls or honey buns. Il we didn't use the our door Space much but it was nice . Two different spaces and a gas fire pit. Didn't use the pool but the hot tub was broken
From the second we walked in we were greeted with kindness. The common areas were beautifully decorated and the rooms were clean and welcoming, with extra touches throughout. The breakfast was immaculate with lots of options both hot and cold. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will seek this location out again next time we are in the area.
Clean comfortable hotel in a convenient location. Proximity to the interstate made downtown Des Moines travel quick and easy.
RIP OFF !! This motel uses a company called Hotel Planner for phone reservations. I called and asked for a room with a king size bed. I reserved it for $178 which seemed high to me. When I arrived I found out the rack rate was $99 for a single king room. I also determined that the dishonest reservation person at Hotel Planner booked me into the most expensive room which is a suite in the motel. When I asked the front desk to change my reservation to a regular room with a king bed for the $99 they said they were unable to do so. I called Hotel Planner back and they refused to modify my reservation. So beware because Best Western Plus shows a local number on their website which is deceptively presented as the motel local phone number. The number actually connects to Hotel Planner and as experienced by me they overcharge at an exorbitant % over rack rate. RIP OFF
We were coming in for a Wedding. We had a king bed with a couch that made into a bed for my son. It must have been comfortable bec he usually complains if it's not. The beds were 1 of the most comfortable I've slept in when staying at hotels. The hot tub was hot not like some which are bath water. The staff was very pleasant & the popcorn was an added bonus it was a great snack. When we are back in the area again we'll definitely book this hotel again.
Actually I was driving all night and I got tired so I pull over and decided to stay at the hotel and that was the best decision I made because the hotel was very comfortable
The best stay with our two huskies. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Clean room and grounds with plenty of area around the hotel to walk the dogs.....and the wife said it had the best shower ever.
It's the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. It's quiet and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Kathy and Dave are very helpful and polite. They attend to anything I need and they do it quickly! Parking is excellent and it's close to a variety of restaurants and convenience stores.
We stayed two nights, and enjoyed the hotel. Very clean hotel, friendly staff. Breakfast was ok. Great location, with lots of restaurants around to choose from. We did have 3 people in our room, and the next morning had no hot water to shower. They could improve on that.
The staff was amazing and the hotel was one of the best we've ever stayed at. Pool and hot tub was perfect, breakfast was beyond amazing and had more options than any other complimentary breakfast we have had. Will definitely return again!!!
I am impressed with the BW plus brand. We stayed at one in Davenport and the next night in Clive and then again in Davenport. Great value for price paid. Stayed in a king room on upper floor to avoid dogs. Cleanliness all over the hotel was great. Did not have breakfast as we met family elsewhere, but saw a that the selection and serving facility were first rate. Shower had a non slip floor. The only things I can pick on were needing another lamp and a soft closing toilet seat. It is a little difficult to get to so check your directions before.
from the time we walked in the door till the time we walked out we were very pleased with everything here. David at the front desk was extremely friendly and welcoming. He was also the one who checked us out, here again was extremely friendly! The hotel was extremely clean. The breakfast was fabulous would definitely stay here again
So nice to have a room that has amenities, and no carpeting. Carpet is so creepy and tile can be clean clean clean . Check in was quick and efficient. I felt like my dog was welcomed by a bag of treats and a note of rules.
Nice weekend stay. Hotel was clean and people were friendly. The hotel was very quite and the breakfast was good. Good options for breakfast, hot food, cereal and other goodies. We did like the yogurt machine to make your own parfait.
Clean rooms. Great breakfast. Clean pool! Nice staff. Here on business and wouldn't hesitate to stay again for the money. Only complaint is there is no laundry. But the front desk helped me out with that. Cleaning staff is trustworthy which is another big +!
We had a friendly greeting upon arrival and a speedy check in. The room was clean, comfortable and well set up. Breakfast was the best of our 10 day trip. No other hotel offered my favorite of waffles, strawberries and whipped cream! But the real plus was how helpful and kind the staff was when we had car trouble in the frigid weather. They went above and beyond to make sure we had all the help necessary to make it home as it was the last day of our vacation.
This hotel feels brand new. It is extremely well-maintained and clean. The breakfast, while the standard breakfast-included fare, had a wide variety and the dining area is comfortable and pleasant with plenty of seating. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would plan my itinerary to stay here again while traveling through the Midwest. Clive is a neat little town.
This is a solid 4. Very clean, conveniently located off the Interstate in a safe area. Room was very clean. Comfortable bed, nice shower head, but low lighting in the bathroom. Overhead noise sounded like someone was dragging furniture so recommend third floor. Breakfast was typical continental but had a nice yogurt bar as well as coffee choices.
Staff was friendly. Kids enjoyed the pool. Good basic breakfast. Room was small and stuffy//damp. Paper thin walls: could hear every word our neighbors said and what tv show they were watching (they were not loud; this was due to shared walls). Pubic hairs left in top drawer of dresser/tv cabinet. Bathroom tub drain broken. Shower curtain torn in several places. Towels and bath mat frayed. Bed comforter lumpy and felt cheap. Expected better for the price we paid.
This was great location just off i80 and I35. Great overnight stay on my way west and back. Lots of restaurants and gas stations too. Bed was comfortable. Nice breakfast selection too, A pool was available, but I did not use it.
Great hotel. Clean updated rooms. Great breakfast. Wonderful staff! The front staff greeted me with a big smile and wished me safe travels as I left. Breakfast was hot and delicious, with plenty of options. Very good restaurants nearby. Thanks.
Easy access from expressway. The room was very clean with LV flooring and nice bedding. This is plenty of green space behind hotel parking lot to walk dog. The staff is friendly staff. Plenty of breakfast options and clean breakfast area.
I would have rated this as all 5s like I normally do. But the check in service we received was less than par. The room was clean and we both slept good. Breakfast was hot and we liked the many different options that were offered.
Clean rooms, breakfast is available in the lobby area. Well-equipped exercise room. Located just off the interstate in the NW part of the metro area. Variety of restaurants nearby, as well as shopping.
Nice and clean with speedy internet. The front desk staff can be prickly so watch out for that but otherwise a great property. I would stay there again despite the rude check in experience I had. It does have a pool and a fitness center which are nice amenities.
Close to Highway & restaurants. Room and bathroom clean. Fridge/microwave/coffee maker in room. Didn't use gym or pool or breakfast offerings but seemed popular with other guests. Front desk staff helpful.
I usually enjoy staying at the Best Western Motels, but this 1 was a little disappointing to me. We arrived at 9:56 pm. We wanted to sit in the hot tub to relax after many hrs of driving. The guy working the check in last night told us it closes at 10. We were too late. By this time I was already checked in. I found out in the morning that it was open until 11 and he lied to us, not wanting to deal with clean up I suppose. The room was clean and the breakfast was good. I believe they should post the pool hrs on the door or someplace so the guy at the desk doesn't just make up his own rules.
You have Amazing breakfast selections. We were very impressed on how very clean your rooms are. All your staff was very friendly & very accommodating. The hotel was nice & quiet. Very spacious hotel rooms.
After traveling 10 hours, it was great to stay in a quiet and clean hotel. We are traveling with a golden and this hotel was very accommodating! The hot breakfast also allows us to fuel up for another long day of driving.
Stayed at this Best Western during our trip to Des Moines for the Good Guys car show. The hotel was nice, but not worth $220 for 1 night. I also didn't like that they wouldn't wave the $20 early check in fee for a Rewards member.
We like this hotel and stay here often when traveling.. Front desk man needs an attitude adjustment, however, he was rude to the man ahead of us and then very short with us as well. He was there last year too. Not a welcoming interaction after driving 10 hours. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. Great location. Nice breakfast
We hadn't been to this facility before and were very pleased with our stay. Obviously a newer facility, it was well located and the place was im,maculate. Breakfast buffet was the best for our two week travels. Definitely recommend this facility.
Great hotel, exceptional value. The beds are amazing! Quilted memory foam tops. Faux down pillows. Great little coffee makers. Fridge and microwave. Really nice bathrooms. Walking distance to Cracker Barrel. Right on I-80. Five stars. Highly recommend.
This Best Western is located in a convenient location to the freeway. Great clean place to stay. Also pet friendly. Wonderful breakfast. Pet friendly rooms are assigned on the main floor which is convenient for taking walks outside.
Our family likes this hotel. We discovered that they have the best breakfast buffet of almost any hotel. They have real eggs that are actual fried eggs rather than some kind of scrambled or pre-fabbed egg product. The staff is helpful and they greet you in a nice way when you arrive. The rooms are clean. We had a few special requests for a shower chair and some extra bedding since my wife was recovering from surgery. No problem. Delivered to our room as promised. Great hotel. Stay here if you are in Des Moines.
Wife and I were just passing through and found this gem. This is a very clean and desk people were very nice. The room was on the large size and very nice. The room had everything you would need. Bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was very good and above other hotels with a lot of fresh stuff. We were staying just one night so we did not check out all that they offer. We would definitely stay here again.
A very pleasant stay. The staff were very helpful when I asked to borrow a tool to fix a cranky suitcase. All were friendly and considerate. Room was very clean, and linens were plush and smelled lovely. Workout room was under remodeling but pool was open and lovely. Breakfast in the morning was better than average with hot and cold options. Great place to stay, will probably return here on our return home.
It was a perfect location to all of the amenities!! Perfect for getting to the fair and visiting family and friends!! The room was incredibly clean and the hotel staff was extremely helpful, courteous, and checking in and out was a breeze!!
always Nice Clean rooms, doesn't matter what room I have had. Have stayed their every year during the state fair, and when travailing thru the Des Moins area. Price is always fair. Good Breakfast in a very nice breakfasts area. always nice clean pool and hot tub available. Enjoy the out door area with outdoor furniture in the shade. have used the exercise room in the past but currently under renovation. This is in a nice area, so if you like to go for a jog or just a walk very nice quite safe place to do so. Good parking, easy to get to right off of the interstate but far enough away to not hear the interstate traffic. I have noticed very family friendly. kids love the pool and couple of good places to eat close by. Mexican Restaurant , Cracker barrel, Wendys all with in walking distance
Stayed for one night. The hotel is freshly remodeled. Breakfast was very good, excellent selection of items. Good location as there are many business and food choices close by, very convenient to the interstate.
Nice and clean hotel overall. Nice decorations at ends of hallways added a nice little touch. Room was clean and beds were comfy. Pool area was also nice and clean. Pool was chilly and hot tub wasn't much warmer than the pool (barely lukewarm). Breakfast offered more options than many hotels! Front desk attendant was hard to find to get us checked in... took over 10 minutes and he was not very friendly and made it kind of awkward. Checking out was nice and quick though and that attendant was super friendly.
Everything was super clean, staff was super friendly, pool and hot tub was clean and working, breakfast tasted amazing with such a wonderful variety of options. Room was extremely clean and beds were comfy! Joined Best Western Rewards because of this trip.
Good location. Great people. Clean and comfortable rooms. Expanded breakfast. Friendly staff. Internet works great. Still in the process of updating but the changes are good--they were much needed. Good value.
This spot was such a relief, after driving cross-country and staying in some absolutely horrible places. It is clean. It is well-lit. Exterior is well maintained and without trash. TVs work well. Bathrooms are spotless and attractive. Neighborhood allows easy walking exercise. Conveniently situated. One block from I80. Heaters/air conditioners don't sound like rattling jet engines. Breakfast fine- morning attendant worked hard. I understand new owner since I first stayed here 2 years ago, but he is doing very well by me. I'm not a fan of the squeaky faux wood floors, but at least they look super clean. Look for the high-post bird house at entrance.
Of the staff I dealt with, only the Saturday morning employee was helpful and kind. It all started when I received a text on my drive to DSM Friday, about 1:30. The text told me my room was ready. We had a couple things to do before our event at 5, but decided to go to the hotel first. Since our room was ready. I got there, the lady was rude telling me there was a $20 fee to check in early. I told her I only came at that time (2 PM) because I got the text. She said Akia always does that. Idc, it's misleading. I had to leave and come back in 55 minutes to avoid the $20 fee. Their pool was also closed. I got a text about that at 8 AM that morning, of course too late to cancel and go elsewhere. I will not be visiting this hotel again.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were very clean and up-to-date. Located close to the interstate. They were remodeling the lobby but did a great job of keeping noise and mess from disturbing us.
The hotel was nice. Under construction- remodeling. But I didn't feel welcomed to stay there. I wasn't informed about breakfast or any amenities. I was charged extra to get my keys early- but after I accepted fee was told my room wasn't ready yet.
Never had to pay a $100. deposit before staying and told it would be put back on the next morning. We got $60. back and nothing was wrong with our room. We took pictures. The price should have been adjusted to compensate for not having a pool or breakfast area.
This hotel is under construction! Though it is open the pool/spa area is closed, and the previous breakfast and social area is boarded up with 2 by 4s and plastic. Breakfast area is now moved to a room. Electricity was off when we arrived and we just canceled our reservation and went elsewhere.
Great hotel, super nice staff, very clean and wonderful breakfast. We stay here 3-4 times a year and it is now even better. Upgraded rooms and very convenient to the expressways, but not too close, so very quiet. Easy access to many nice restaurants.
Everyone I encountered had a smile! Breakfast was amazing- I can't usually get a strong cup of coffee outside of the coffee shops when I travel, but the BW has installed a coffee machine that dispenses single cups of light, medium, or strong. And a new yogurt machine! Less waste from little disposable cups, and many topping choices. I will choose this hotel every time I am in vicinity of Des Moines.
Great place to stay with kids. Very clean and friendly. They have a wonderful free breakfast bar every morning. I would stay here again, the staff was very accommodating. We can't wait to see how the new pool will look.
we stayed 3 years ago on a road trip and was comfortable doing so again. we were not disappointed .room was clean, comfortable, internet fast, breakfast good with plenty of choices, staff friendly easy on and off I35 gas and food close by
The inn offered comfortable accommodation, clean, great comfortable bed, shower had steady, hot water with fluffy towels and a roomy bathroom. It is close to the interstate with a variety of food options within walking distance.
We've used this hotel five times. Each time our expectations were met fully. Friendly staff, clean & comfortable rooms, quality Wi-Fi, and good breakfast. Pre-COVID we also got an evening food treat such as pizza.
Best Western needs to get some consistency in its Best Western Plus ratings. I've stayed in gorgeous BW Plus hotels and some, like this one, are not a plus. A rather dark and gloomy place with some updates and, yet, some old items as well. The dark colors give the place a dirty feel. Check-in was fine. Breakfast on the skimpy side. Pool closed for remodeling (had we known that, we would have booked elsewhere), mattress soft. HVAC works well. We have a five-night stay over Christmas. Definitely disappointed.
Friendly, quick check in. Clean room, comfy bed. Secure parking and lobby entrance. Well-decorated. One elevator that was shared by housekeeping, so a bit inconvenient. Some freeway noise, but not awful. Upgraded personal products. A blow dryer provided. Would choose this hotel again.
The hotel is old (former Holiday inn) and needs renewal. While the beds were comfortable, the room was not kept up. The filters in the air conditioner had not been changed for at least a year. They did wash them out for me so I could put them back in. The desk clerk was gruff and did not like being asked simple questions during the evening. I will find a different place if I ever come this way again.
We really enjoyed the patio space with the fire pit and string lights. We would have coffee out there in the mornings and end our evenings back there talking about our day. We enjoyed it so much that we want to do a similar set up at our house.
Always a pleasant stay - convenient location - friendly staff - close to good restaurants and access to interstate and bypass for easy routes to almost anywhere in the city - room and grounds well maintained
We stayed here on our way to Michigan and on our way back. They offer the standard free hotel breakfast. My husband likes the waffle maker. The gym was open and my husband used a few of the machines. There were good restaurants nearby and we were able to walk the dog in grassy areas. There had been a mix up with our original reservation but the guy at the desk was able to make it right. I'd stay here again next year if we pass through.
I was driving from Chicago to Denver sightseeing the backroads of IA and Nebraska and did not have a reservation to stay at any particular place. This hotel was very nice and clean. I cut above the rest. Excellent value.
This was the area of town we needed when traveling. This hotel was very lovely and we got a nice upgrade! The prices were EXCELLENT on a Sunday night. Room very clean, check-in smooth, beds comfortable, and a nice breakfast.
I had a very nice overnight here. The hot tub was hot. the breakfast was good and included in the room rate (but they kinda rushed me). The room was nice and comfortable. I was pleased with the accommodations.
it was ok but the country inn next door was about the same for cost and had a full breakfast and nicer pool . except for being a best western member. i would have stayed next door. other than that it went well on check in and out.
Rooms were nice and convenient. The breakfast was not bad due to Covid, I believe they offered less items. Other customers were not following rules in the hot tub/pool area: young kids swimming alone, and adults drinking beer in the hot tub. However, we were reprimanded for having water bottles in the pool area. Internet was a little slow if you are depending on it for business or gaming. However, we would stay at this location again.
If you are looking for accommodations in a facility where the staff understand the importance of making sure the customer is happy, and wants to return, this is the place! The facility is always clean outside and in. Flowers and trimmed shrubbery greet you at the entrance. When you walk in you can tell the that there is pride in the facility. Rooms are clean and if ther is a problem it does not fall on deaf ears. This is the facility I use to compare others when I stay in a different state/town. This is a great place to saty!
Very nice hotel that looks to be either new or recently refurbished inside and out. My room was very nice, it was clean and comfortable and people were friendly too. I would have no problem recommending this hotel to others.
breakfast was extremly disapointing, not great, biscuits were old and stale not many options of food either, uncomfortable beds. front desk person was lousy, busy eating and didn't want anything to do with me, or checking me in or out. didn't do that great of a job with flooring in rooms. nice pool, hot tub and patio though.
We stayed in the queen family suite, that had two queen beds and one pull out sofa living area separated from the beds just a bit. It was a great room for the amount of people we had. The room comes with two tv's, which was awesome, but only one remote? So we passed it back and forth as we weren't in the room all that much. It also came with a fridge and a microwave which was really nice to have. The shower/bath was okay. Decent water pressure, but not really enjoyable for my personal preference. Also, why do hotel bathrooms allow everyone to hear you use the restroom? This room was horrible for that! We had to have tv's volume up and turn on the bathtub water just to have some noise so you didn't hear someone use the bathroom. Kind of off putting. The beds were not the greatest in this room. We both had trouble sleeping and very stiff backs the nights we stayed. The pool was great for the kids. The breakfast is kind of eh since the whole covid thing. They have waffles back, but you wait in line and they aren't really the greatest. The staff was fantastic the entire stay. We didn't have any issues with noise from other guests and our room was an end room by the stairs. I was really shocked by that. I love that the hotel is by really good food and close to the exits so travel was super easy.
I really enjoyed my stay at Best WesternPlus Des Moines West Inn andSuites. In addition, the COVID safety protocols were appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel to any traveler looking for a restful, clean and safe nights' sleep.
The best Best Western. Very nice and accommodating staff. Friendly for dogs of all sizes, free breakfast, right off the freeway, walking or short drive to good places to eat, short drive to huge grocery store. Very clean, great water pressure in the shower.
We always stay in this hotel right around the 15th of March. They are always super nice and super helpful. We enjoy our stay every time we stay. We do like that there is restaurant options close by as well as shopping. Which we like it is close and near the hotel.
Pleasant staff, quick check-in. Safe area, attractive rooms, Covid precautions were being taken seriously. Wish we would have been there on one of days drinks and appetizers were offered. Many times that is all we want after being on the road most of the day!
Good and convenient location. Very nice and helpful staff. Hotel is nicely kept, clean, and maintained, plus the decor is attractive and not dated. Good amenities, both in the rooms and public areas. Nicely done!
This is a very nice property with an excellent location. It is walking distance from several restaurants both sit down and fast food. Has great parking including room for oversized vehicles. Hot tub is open!
This hotel was very clean and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The staff were very courteous and helpful in making recommendations for were to go have a good meal. The hotel location is very convenient to the freeway and local restaurants. I would definitely stay here again!
I stayed at this hotel when traveling across the country to see my nieces and nephews in Ohio. I had been driving for 7.5 hours in bad weather and I was so tired, but as soon as I walked in I felt much better. The lady at the front desk was sweet and made me feel welcome and taken care of. When I came downstairs to ask for an extra towel (I like having extra towels for my long hair) she gave me two. The room was spacious and sparkling clean. The bed was very soft. I slept like a baby! Breakfast was COVID-style, but I appreciated having the option for a hot waffle in addition to the cold stuff you get at every hotel. They also let you choose what you want in your to-go breakfast so you don't end up with things you don't like. The lady who checked me out was also very nice and I loved chatting with her. I will be staying here again on my way back!
The man who was working the front desk was extremely rude when I checked in on 12/06/2020. He spoke and treated me as if I was beneath him. There was confusion with my booking, and he was very rude answering my question I had about it. He got defensive, and raised his voice at me before I finished asking my question. I didn't know the card I used to book with online wasn't going to be the one charged. It was my first time staying in a hotel by myself. I asked him about it, and that's when he got rude with me. I didn't feel welcomed, and it was my first stay at a hotel by myself. I won't return to stay at this Best Western again because of the way I was treated. That man should not be working the front desk, or speaking with customers if he's going to treat them the way he treated me..
I love this hotel and it is always a staple when traveling to see my grandchildren. Its in a nice, quiet, and safe location by some golfing feilds and theres many restaurants near by- including cracker barrel which is my favorite! Cathyis wonderful and the two young receptionists are also very kind! There is always someone there to kindly help if you need anything. The redhead even went out of her way to help me book my next night in chicago. I stay here every year and the best part of this stay is the new patio they installed recently. It was such a fun surprise to see all the upgrades!!! Very classy and I really really enjoyed the fire pit and patio. They even decorated with pumpkins-- how cute!!! they also do a very very very good job of cleaning and staying covid safe- the lobby is spotless the rooms are tip top shape. The employees use the uv wand and disinfection fog air machines! I would certainly recommend this hotel for everyone- especially families
Front desk is where you get the vibe for what a business such as a hotel is going to be. That being said, RUN RUN RUN AWAY!!!! Check in staff rude and unaccommodating. Stated multiple times that rules were rules and absolutely no concessions could be made because all she was concerned with was losing her job. Raised her voice loud enough I felt she probably awoke sleeping guests. Gave us keys which didn't work 3 times. Next time I'm in Des Moines I'll be going back to the Econolodge on E 30th by the fairgrounds. Might not be as fancy, but has a friendly staff who go out of their way to make their guests comfortable.
2nd visit in a week . Very clean and smelled fresh , all the unnecessary things were taken of the bed. Refrigerator was clean . One thing they did that I did not care for, in one of the coffee cups they put all the coffee stuff ,filters, sugar packs and everything in a cup that someone may want to use , why not use paper products instead of glasses and ceramic cups !
My wife and I decided to stay here on our trip to Des Moines and we loved this hotel. All of the staff members we dealt with were super friendly and helpful. The property is super clean and well maintained. Our room was clean and comfortable. There wasn't a single part of our stay that we didn't like. The hotel is easily accessible from the I-80/I-35 concurrency at Exit 124. We would definitely stay here again
As we traveled for the last two months this was the absolutely the CLEANEST and nicest stays in the hotel during our entire cross country road trip. Amazing customer service and very friendly and carrying staff! If you worry about stays in the hotels during the COVID times I can assure you I felt 100 precent safe, respected, carried for and for sure noticed how clean this entire hotel is. I gladly come back to this place in the future. Thank you for hospitality and big shout out to the staff for keeping up so well especially during this times! Very pleasant stay!!!! Natalia and Arne
Nice location - close to restaurants and attractions. Grab n go breakfast was ok with a choice of pastry, fruit, and yogurt (plus granola bar and bottled water). Comfortable accommodations, friendly staff, and reasonable price.
The good parts-plenty of parking, even for oversized vehicles and trailers, room appeared clean. The bad parts are a whole lot longer. I booked a "two queen bed" room by phone, and the man taking the reservation from the front desk said he had 11 available. We were well moved in with a lot of stuff before we looked at the beds and they were clearly not queen beds, but only full size. It matters and it's deceptive. When I went to the desk and asked why we were given full size instead of queen the woman at the desk insisted they were queen size. Nope. We measured. A full is 53″ x 75″ which is what these beds were, and a queen bed is 60″ x 80″. She actually came across a little arrogant about it, which I will get in to. I chose the hotel to get queen beds and frankly a full size is like camping. I have a king at home and the queen size is already roughing it, so we of course got a bad night sleep. When we walked in the door the man at the front desk had a mask on. Under his chin. Where it stayed. I was masked, there are postings on the door that the staff will be masked and that the guests need to be masked, as well as postings from the Iowa board of health. I made a couple trips in with stuff and saw him check in other guests and walk around the building and the mask never traveled north of the under side of his jaw. He remarked that he was going to check the side door that was supposed to be locked but is always propped open. He was right-I only found it locked once and propped open at least 20 times in the 16 hours or so we were there. The trash can next to the door was packed with beer cans and had a half a birthday cake balanced on top when we left later the next morning and guests were partying in the parking lot well into the night. They at least made a passing effort to social distance out there, however almost no guests in the hotel were masked and the staff never said anything. Packs of 8 to 10 kids at a time ran full speed down the halls, unmasked and leaving everything wet. The man working the desk saw it, did nothing. The pool was filled with kids the whole time. Contact tracers will have a field day with this place. I am an early riser and about 0530 I went out for coffee and the woman mopping was unmasked. I saw her a few times that morning and she was masked once. She was the employee of the stay, the only one to ever have a mask on. The woman who took over for her for the day shift (who thinks she knows bed sizes) had her mask on her chin every time I saw her. She even went up and close talked a woman washing her hands who was masked, in an otherwise empty coffee area. I cannot imagine why. I saw her talking to a male who appeared to be housekeeping staff who also kept a pristine mask on and below his chin the whole time. This is why I doubt the rooms were truly Covid clean, just whatever they regularly did. The grab and go breakfast was packed by hand by the person at the desk as you peered over the desk and asked for each thing. Get some tongs or gloves. At least act like you care. I would never return here since they clearly could care less about their guests. The "full beds are queen beds" thing was encountered at another hotel on our trip and may be a deceptive way to draw business by some hotels and it is fraudulent and deceptive.
From a late night check-in with David, who quickly supplied extra pillows and much needed tooth paste to the sack breakfast (due to Covid 19) everything was great. Our room was quiet on the 3rd floor and extremely clean. Everything was right where it should be, spacious and no funky smell due to the hard wood floors - brilliant! Beds are very comfortable with crisp white sheets. Thank you!
Very nice motel. The room was neat and clean, stocked with everything we needed. Interstate highway is close, but we did not hear any of the traffic noise. Motel is located with easy access from Interstate 80. Cracker Barrel store and restaurant are walking distance, gas station/convenience store also very close proximity. Check the AC/heat unit before unpacking. The AC in our room was noisy.
We have had nothing but good experiences when we stay at BW. Staff is great. Very accomodating, kind, professional and clean. We get coffee, grab and go breakfast, water. We enjoy staying here because restaurants are near by.
We stayed here for a night on a cross-country trip during the COVID-19 pandemic. We really appreciated that the staff were all wearing masks (as were we), and took great measures to disinfect everything -- your key, the pen you use to sign the bill, everything. We stayed at 4 hotels during this week and this one was, by far, the best when it came to sanitizing and making guests feel safe during their stay amid the pandemic. Breakfast was grab and go, which was a nice gesture considering they're unable to offer a standard buffet-style breakfast at this time. Our room was spotless. Shout out to Mila who checked us in that evening. She was so welcoming, professional and absolutely on top of making sure everything was clean. Would absolutely recommend staying here!
This hotel is convenient, clean, and comfortable. We stayed twice, driving to Chicago and driving home. But the front desk staff should wear masks! Please! Only once did someone at the front desk wear a mask; the young woman who checked us in followed Covid-safe practices. Maybe you can't require guests to mask up (don't know the law in Iowa) but please require your staff to. Protect your guests!
We stayed on our way home from South Dakota. They are taking as many COVID precautions as they can. Hotel was clean and room smelled fresh. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They also allow dogs which a plus for us because we travel with our dogs. We will stay here again on our next trip out west.
We stayed here on a trip out west recently. Due to Covid, no buffet breakfast. They had hot options at the front desk made individually or grab n go. We went to a local Perkins instead. Pool was open but we didn't partake. Outdoor patio was ah-mazing! Very nice space and nice stay overall.
My family and I just stayed here. It may have only been for one night but it was an amazing experience. The woman working at the front desk was named Mila and she was outstanding. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed in order to make our stay comfortable. We had 3 kids with us and 2 of them were under 5 years old and she didn't mind that they were curious. This young lady deserves a raise. She even helped fix the tv when the satellite went out. She also directed us to some really great restaurants. VERY happy with our stay here. We will definitely be staying here again if we ever pass through Clive. We will definitely be recommending Best Western to friends and family.
We were passing through & always look for the Best Westerns. This is a newer property and is very clean & nicely decorated. We especially enjoyed being checked in by Melvin who was very upbeat & personable. Because of Covid there was no breakfast offered but that's understandable. The location is right off the highway & easy to find & get to. We would definitely stop there again!
I cannot tell you what a comfort it was to stay at this hotel after a long day of traveling during a pandemic. We had just spent 11 hours driving from Colorado and didn't eat because many restaurants are closed. We were hangry and exhausted and as many people are my husband and I were nervous about staying in hotels, but we have had great experiences so far. This hotel has a policy where they rotate out rooms so we wouldn't have a chance of coming in contact with anything left behind in the air by anyone. They UV disinfect every piece of paper for check in and the keys. The front desk receptionist was sanitizing when we came in, and was sanitizing again when I came down for extra towels (which she handed to me using gloves and UV disinfected!). The room was nice and spacious and CLEAN! The beds were a little soft for me but my husband liked it. I appreciate how hard they are working. Thank you essential workers!
We were charged for drinks in the “minibar” that were DEFINITELY NOT in the “minibar” when we arrived, so, of course, they were not there when we left. Check your bill for this scam. The owner said he knows the drinks were there, but they absolutely were not. One of his employees is stealing from him, getting paid by him while stealing, and the owner is blaming the guests? Ridiculous! And if you don't check your bill carefully, YOU'RE paying for the thief's drinks.
Staff seemed friendly enough, but make sure you want a space that is quiet so you can get a decent nights rest. I had issues with slamming doors after 10:30 at night, and loud talking in the halls until about 1:30 AM
We were very impressed with superior service and friendly staff. Food was fresh and delicious, with gourmet coffee. Room was spotless and nicely decorated. We spend the evening outside by fireplace, in nice, just built pergola. I will recommended this hotel, to all my friends, visiting Des Moines. Roman
My friend & I stayed here on a road trip. It was awful. The room layout was terrible. For example, The bathroom sink was on the opposite side of the room door than the access to the toilet & shower room, and the light switch for the toilet/shower room was outside the room and behind the door hinges instead of by the door knob. The shower itself was completely unusable with horrible water pressure resulting in only a trickle of water. The remote control to the TV was not working, although the clerk was able to fix that. Paint was peeling on the walls. In the morning when I woke I discovered a small, dried blood stain on the sheet. After confirming it was not from me, I was horrified to realize they had either put blood stained sheets on the bed or the sheets had not been washed!!! In general, the hotel had a dark, dingy feel to it and the night clerk was rude and condescending. For example, when he "fixed" the remote, he had to "mansplain" to us how remote controls work - as if 2 adult females could not understand technology. All he did was change the position of the "eye" that receives the infrared signal, which sat loose on the base of the TV instead of being fixed to it. We did not use the pool or hot tub, but in retrospect that was good as we realized we could not smell the chlorine, even though the pool room was directly behind the front desk. In every other hotel we have stayed at, you can smell the chlorine, even if only faintly. Now I wondered how clean the pool was if you couldn't smell the chlorine. This was one of the worst hotels we ever stayed at and absolutely not worth a charge in excess of $100!!! Neither of us would stay here again if you paid us!!!
In a community known for high-priced hotels/motels, Best Western in Clive is an oasis! Clive is just a few minutes northwest of Des Moines. It has probably the largest Barnes & Noble on the planet, hundreds of restaurants, and plenty to see. The motel itself is very well managed and up-to-date. I could not believe actually having real china and regular forks and spoons (no plastic) at breakfast. The food was simply amazing as was the pool. The rooms were spacious with plenty of outlets for recharging tablets etc. Do your family a favor and choose this--on your way to Adventureland, the capitol, Living History Farms etc. Restaurants are within minutes.
I highly recommend this Best Western Plus. It's a nice clean modern hotel with friendly staff. The hot tub works great. It's a wonderful place to stay. My next stay in Des Moines will be at this hotel.
I can honestly say I don't think I would have noticed this Best Western when driving by. This hotel is tucked in behind some restaurants and other hotels. It has everything you could need for a quick or long stay. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Evening social offered certain nights, daily breakfast & breakfast to go bags available. The workout room has the right equipment to get a good workout in. It was nice to have an indoor pool available, although I did not use it.
This is a very good hotel that takes care to meet your needs and makes your stay comfortable and quiet. There is an excellent breakfast and the staff pays attention to you if you have a question or special request.
We are very happy with our stay we think the property is well maintained. The interior of the hotel is nice and up to date. What makes us keep coming back is the spacious room which gives us room to move around and there is a couch for lounging not a straight back chair. This hotel is also close to restaurants so weary travelers don't have far to go to get good food. Gas stations is also close, so amenities are close if you need to spend the night and leave for business.
Very clean hotel with high quality linens in the room and real dishes, cups and bowls in the breakfast room. Our dog got along just fine there - disappointed that back door had no key card as we parked our vehicle in the huge lot
Excellent property, value, and staff....very warm and welcoming. Great value...happy hour offered during week days but not every day. Ask for times and day, do not assume, ask when available. Owners are very personable along with staff...loved the gas fireplace, holiday music and decorations. Very cozy and inviting
My family and I, with our two dogs, arrived at the hotel. I went into the lobby to check in and was literally astounded by the hotel's pet policy. The hotel advertises itself as pet friendly but its policy is anything but. You have to pay a fee for each pet, with is somewhat standard, but the rules for having a pet in the hotel are ridiculous. You may not leave you pet alone in the room at anytime. If you do, you are subject to an additional $100 fine. The form I was presented to complete and sign for the pet policy required more initials and signatures than my mortgage. I asked the front desk clerk how I was supposed to go out to dinner to feed my family, having been on the road all day, and was told as long as I could "take my pets with me to dinner it wouldn't be a problem." Just a ridiculous response. My dogs aren't service animals and I certainly won't pretend they are to take them into a restaurant. We always feed and bed down our dogs in the room and go to eat when we stay at hotels. I even offered to bring in our kennel to put the dogs in while we were at dinner as was told that would not do. I went out to discuss the issue with my wife so we could decide if we would go to another hotel with a reasonable pet policy. My wife and I came decided we didn't want to deal with all that as the car had already been unloaded onto a luggage cart, we were tired, and as Best Western Platinum rewards members, we preferred to stay at a BW. I figured I would skip dinner and stay in the room with the dogs while my family went to eat. When we reentered the lobby, my wife told the desk clerk that she had never, in all the BW hotels we've stayed in, seen pet policy with so many restrictions. The clerk then, very rudely and with a tone I cannot sufficiently describe in the written word, told my wife we did not have to stay at the hotel and that she would be happy to cancel our reservation. She quite literally invited us to leave. That was all my wife needed to hear. We took the clerk's advice and took our business elsewhere. We made a complaint to BW corporate and the response from the hotel's management was that we were refunded the money for our room past the cancellation time and so, basically, we should be happy. The one thing the desk clerk did right that night was refund our money, since she was the one who invited us to cancel our reservation and leave. The pet policy alone would have kept us from ever staying at that BW in the future, the desk clerk's rudeness is yet another reason, but the hotel management's lackluster response and absence of concern for guests, particularly BW rewards members, ensures we will never stay at that hotel, with pets or not, and motivated me to write this review. Do yourself a favor and stay at any of a number of other fine hotels in the Clive/Des Moines area!
Staff was friendly. Everything was pretty clean and nicely decorated. We were traveling through during bad weather and were grateful to find such a convenient location that allowed pets at the last minute. The bed was a little too bouncy for my liking and the hot tub could have been warmer. Breakfast offered a nice variety to choose from.
I took my 91-year old mother to this Best Western for a weekend getaway. She is able bodied, but walks slowly and she tripped on the cobble stones leading up to the hotel entrance. Why would they have uneven cobblestone bricks instead of smooth concrete leading up to the entrance? Fortunately, my mom just suffered some cuts and bruises instead of breaking her hip or other bones. The hotel front desk person offered us some bandaids when we came in, but he obviously saw her fall and did nothing! Also, the hotel was dirty. There were clumps of dirt from someone's shoes in the hallway by our room. The dirt was still there when we left 24-hours later.
From the first time we walked in to see the beautiful Christmas tree and decorated fireplace, it was very inviting. Great service. Clean rooms. Wonderful breakfast. Great location to interstate and restaurants.
This hotel is great from the time I walked in until the time I left. The rooms are clean and comfortable. And when it was time to check out it was very easy. Breakfast was also great, the real dishes are a nice touch.
First, I want to relay the above and beyond service help we received from Cathy at the front desk and from the owner: We were coming off the elevator getting ready to check out when my car keys and remote fell out of my hand and dropped through the space between the elevator car and the floor of the hallway. What are the odds? I went to the desk to ask for help. Apparently there is no basement and there was no maintenance person on duty. Cathy was working the front desk. She called a manager. The manager said the only thing would be to call for elevator service which would cost $2000 because it was the weekend or wait till Monday, at which time it would cost less. With a flashlight, we could see where the keys landed, but had no way to get them. I decided to give up and would just have to replace the remote and keys - I had a spare set with me. Cathy decided not to give up. She phoned the owner. He offered to come out an see what he could do. He arrived about 30 minutes later, came up with a plan and got my keys for me! While we were waiting for the owner to arrive, Cathy came out to where we were sitting to visit with us a bit. She could tell we were shaken up and her friendliness was a calming welcome. I feel Cathy and the owner could have left things as they were when I said I would go without my keys, but both wanted to help and went out of their way to do so. Beyond this above and beyond service, there are a lot of nice touches that take this hotel to the next level. The guest rooms have real coffee cups and water glasses - not the paper or plastic disposables. The breakfast area also has real dishes to eat off of. The lobby has a beautiful seating with fireplace. You can tell the staff loves working for this owner and that all take pride in what they do. Couple this with the very reasonable price and convenient location and this is a must stay at hotel!
Issues with elevator and doors. Clean but asked for room close to door and booked well in advance and my request was ignored 100%. When I asked they said they missed it and to bad. I am very disappointed considering the jacked up rate we paid for 2 nights and they really jacked up rate on second night. Wont stay at this location again.
I have traveled for 30 years and this is the Best -Best Western. I have stayed here several times and the attention to details location value and most of all consistency gets a perfect 10 every time! From the fresh baked cookies every time i show up to a desk chair in my room that always works right for my ht and desk ht. to eating off glassware instead of paper umbrellas by the door a shoe shiner by the front door and breakfast for me if i need to leave at 5:30 am --A staff that has been the same since I started staying there. An easy entrance and parking area all perfect every time. The only Best Western that gets all 10's from me --thank-you Arthur for you management of this property! Sincerely --Brent
The room was typical of a Best Western which I expected. Clean, well arranged and felt comfortable. It's the small thing that make it stand out. Friendly staff, cookies in the lobby,, 24 hour coffee. In the room they had real glass glasses and real coffee cups. For breakfast, (this stands out) good food - yes, they had real palates and silverware not paper and plastic. It mad everything about the breakfast better. Would I stay there again. Yes, Yes
Wonderful hotel location---right off the interstate, with many restaurants, businesses, right on University Ave. The hotel was located with several others right off the freeway. It was clean, had a great breakfast, was reasonably priced, and best of all---PET FRIENDLY! The gentleman who checked us in gave us a recommendation nearby for dinner, and he upgraded one of our rooms as I was a Rewards Member. Additionally, he was so positive and complimentary about his team members, and his "boss." Our room was neat and clean.
We had a great stay. Comfy beds, good breakfast, nice staff. The rooms could have been a bit more cleaner but it's nothing to complain about. The suites are very spacious. They had fresh baked cookies in the evening which was nice. Overall a wonderful stay.
Spotless. Safe. Elegant. Affordable. Courteous. Quiet. Accessible! Great breakfast. Tasteful decor. Easy location. Welcoming staff. Fair price. Comfy beds. This exceeded all our expectations. Thank you!
Very unaccommodating staff. Compared to other Best Western Hotels this one does not offer any extra perks. Their rooms need to be renovated evenly, especially their old washrooms. The decor is a mismatch of old & new furniture. Towels could be restocked for newer ones.
Room and facility were very nice. When I checked I found out that my credit card would be charged $100 over the room rate. When I asked -in case we trashed the room. I asked if there was going to be a mutual inspection arrival and departure- the answer was NO. So I have IiPhone pictures. Now I have to worry about the refund that I will be checking on. Highway noise above average!
This hotel is close to the interstate and noise can be a problem if you are unable to receive a room in the "back". Overall the hotel is okay - clean and comfortable. I have stayed here a couple of times while in Des Moines. It's close to restaurants as well.
Went to visit the college and were put up at this location. I was a little leery because some of the Best Westerns on the east coast are a little less than desirable, but this was clean, comfortable, and the staff was very hospitable. I'd say it was a little pricey for the area at $200+ per night. Not sure if all the prices go up around there when there's a football game, but that was the only negative.
First time we stayed at this property was in 2015 and we were so impressed then that we have been back every year since for 2-3 consecutive nights each time. The property presents well from the moment of arrival with a staff is warm, courteous and professional in demeanor. The lobby and breakfast area, as well as hallways and rooms are exceptionally clean. There is plenty of hot water and the sink and shower drains operate as designed with no clogs. Beds are comfy and the pillows the best we've experienced in our travels. Breakfast is varied and ample with hot and cold offerings enough to satisfy most people and the ceramic dinnerware and stainless steel utensils serve to distinguish this property from others in the chain. Another nice touch is that the in room coffee makers also have ceramic mugs rather than paper cups. Almost forgot to mention the complimentary pizza/beer/wine evening socials provided as a means for making guests feel at home. It is apparent that the owner operates this property as he would want it to be were he a guest here and we appreciate his efforts. We stay at Best Western properties for our leisure travel around the US for 50-60 nights annually and can say that this one is one that puts the "Best" in Best Western. Well worth the stay and is deserving of our return business, which we look forward to.
Our room was extremely clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Was definitely a great, reasonable price for a place to stay. Breakfast was very good. One of the best complimentary breakfasts we have had.
I would not recommend this hotel. Because the handicap room floor drain was plugged and the back door card reader was broke. No maintenance person on site to repair the problem, so they had to move us to a none handicap room.
It was my first time ti Iowa and the hotel did not disappoint me at all. Welcoming staff, clean room, lots of grass for our dog, great restaurants nearby, very good breakfast. I think I said few times during our stay that this was a nice hotel.
Worst Best Western hotel in the nation. I cannot say strongly enough to avoid this poor excuse for a hotel. I checked in early @1:30 PM. My bad. I was told there would be a $40 early check in fee! $40? Really? So would they credit me for early checkout prior to 11 AM? No. So I waited out in the parking lot, in the rain, with my dog until 3PM & finally checked in according to their policy. Nice hospitality. I had to complain to the head office @ BW! So next I was given a room that smelled of urine & had this fake wood laminate flooring that was warped exposing the joints & sticking up from the floor to the point I was tripping over the seams in the floor. Next, my dog injured her paw on this flooring causing her pad to bleed badly. I requested a different room & was given another with the same flooring. This was unacceptable to me & they told me to leave! This belligerent bullying behavior & indifference of the night clerk are absolutely inexcusable. Like an umpire he stated ”yer outta here!” Ha! They even called the police on me, when I was the one that was being bullied! The officers were great & sympathetic to me. They told me this guy does this all the time with little provocation. Wow. Nice professional service from the front desk clerk. The room reeked of urine. Awful! I would not take my shoes off. Fortunately, at the advice of the officers, I found a much better room @ 1/2 the cost at the La Quinta next door. This particular BW is very poorly operated & the owner should hire front desk personnel that have more than a 3rd grade education & maybe with a modicum of people skills. Ownership needs to take a refresher course in good manners & hospitality. Avoid this property at all costs.
Overall experience was good, had a couple minor issues with lobby being too warm and pool area as well. Need better air circulation in pool area to keep comfortable. Lobby was unusually warm compared to rest of the facility, made it uncomfortable to enjoy breakfast first thing in the morning.
Love this hotel. Excellent service, very clean and wonderful free breakfast. Wide selection, well stocked with real ceramic mugs and plates. Very easy access off the interstates in both directions. Nearby Panera and other great restaurants near Drake University.
We were called to Iowa when my mom was seriously ill. We had no idea how long we would be there, but we needed a convenient location to travel between Waukee and Des Moines. We found the Best Western Plus in Clive and met David at the front desk upon arrival. He understood our situation and reserved our room for as long as we needed. My mom passed away that day, and David kindly gave us the same rate for our room for the two weeks that we stayed for the funeral and business following that. Our room was always clean, and for most of the mornings when we went to breakfast, we saw Craig organizing the delicious breakfast early in the day. The breakfast choices varied which was nice since we were there for so long. The staff was accommodating and kind; the room was always clean, and it was quiet. This hotel became our quiet respite during a stressful time, Many thanks to David for making our stay as pleasant as possible and to Craig for those early breakfasts. I would highly recommend this hotel when in the West Des Moines area.
Our king room on the third floor was spotless. Newer furniture and a very comfortable bed. Social hour with beer, wine, and pizza. Fresh cookies were delicious. Very nice breakfast selections and real plates, cups, and silverware. Very nice place to stay
I asked for a quiet room so I could be sure and sleep. They put me on third floor. As I was moving in I could hear someone's TV blaring in the hallway. I thought it can't be bad in the room. I was wrong. It was in the room adjoining mine and sounded like space aliens. I told the desk clerk and asked if I could move. He said they were full. He called the room and they turned their TV down. However, the person awoke at 0315 to get ready for work and left the bathroom fan going for 1 hour and 1/2. I could hear them moving around in the room like they were in my room and their light shone through the adjoining door. Then you could hear them open and close their microwave and run it for breakfast. I didn't have a microwave! I tried to get one more hour of sleep, but was unable. I am still tired.
Stopped here overnight on July 15 while passing thru the area. Check in was fast and happy they honored our reservation. Stayed on 3rd floor with king bed. Impressed with the cleanliness. Hospitality hour was appreciated. Breakfast was fine with several choices. Did not use any of the other facilities as checked out early morning. Would stay again.
Water faucet kept running. We had to move handle to make sure it quit! Manager was rude at check in! Hot tub turned out to be a Hot pool. Jets did not work. No place to turn it on! (That's one reason we chose this Hotel because the pictures show hot tub but it was Not on!! TV went out. Lady on duty at front desk said unplug, if that doesn't work, I don't know what to do???
Pleasant gal at check-in, lobby area and breakfast area very clean. Room was large with a couch. They used real dishes for breakfast, I thought that was a nice touch. The coffee they use was delicious. They also had cookies at check-in which I enjoyed after I had my dinner. Would definitely stay there again
This BW is very reliable and consistent. It provides great value for the money. Staff is very customer orientated and they make you feel at home. Great place to stay while in Des Moines. Would highly recommend this BW.
We unexpectely had to stop for the night and chose this. I love Best Western and they have always treated me well. This plCe was clean, the people friendly, and the breakfast wonderful. Would definitely stay again. The price was reasonable too
It has great clean rooms. Beds are very comfortable, It has a really nice pool and hot tub. It has really nice and amazing staff and they are also really polite. Highly recommit going there.and I'll visit again for sure.
We only stayed one night but our room was very clean and quiet and the beds were very comfortable. We had a great breakfast and would recommend any travelers to stop and stay here. You won't be sorry!!!
Nice Plus property. Nice facility with excellent work out room and pool. Rooms were very nice. Pillows were not so great but lots of different tastes to satisfy. Lots of restaurants and shopping near by.
Very convenient to freeway, but still quiet, great location. As usual, staff was professional, polite, and courteous. That sponsor a “social hour” providing beer/wine/chip/Chex mix/ meatballs.....a very nice gesture usually only found at Embassy Suites, at a much higher rate! Pet friendly, plenty of walking space for Fido. Mostly fast food nearby, but for those that require an adult beverage the Mexican restaurant (walkable) was very good, fish tacos were excellent. Salsa for chips was soupy. RTinMN
I can't say enough about how nice this hotel was! Rooms were nice, beds were comfortable and breakfast was great with REAL silverware and dinnerware! Price was also fantastic. Stay here if you're in the area!!
We have stayed in this hotel 4 times in the past year. Very clean and enjoyable place to stay. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast it also great with a wide variety of items to choose from. Highly recommend.
After 12 hours of driving, we were much in need of rest. The room was clean and comfortable, but lacking in adequate sound-proofing -neighbors and highway noise. Breakfast was medocre at best. We specifically sought out a Best Western Plus on our route and the reviews were good. Hmmmmm
Very friendly people and great service. Got there just before surprising happy hour. We had pizza, beer r wine. Didn't have to go out to eat. Pool was warm. room was excellent. We did have a problem controlling the room temperature as it got too warm. I explained this to the person when we checked out and they took 20% off our bill. The breakfast that morning was excellent with many choices.
This is a great hotel. Staff is very helpful. Breakfast, although the area is small, was good. The rooms are clean and nice. Usually it is busy with families and is very accommodating. I highly recommend this hotel.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We used our free night voucher. The hotel was clean with no odd odors. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and everything worked great.
This is a fantastic property!! David, who checked us in, was so friendly, helpful and just great to chat with. He also provided us with a delicious dinner suggestion. Our room was a surprise on several fronts - 2 luggage racks, glass glasses, soft towels, a mini-bar (which we did not use); and the flooring in both the room itself (laminated wood vs carpet) and bathroom (tiles) were all nice touches. The letter from the property owner was something one doesn't see, but appreciated. Breakfast brought another unique experience. The “real” plates, glasses, mugs and utensils - all items that need washing - made us feel special. No plastic or throw-away plates, utensils or drinking cups here! The eggs were the best we've tasted. The attendant was friendly and nice to chat with. All the food options were great. Thank you also, Best Western, for the special parking and the “member thank you” . Everyone we came in touch with was great!
The staff was pleasnat and helpful right from the start. Fresh cookies were waiting at check in. Our room was nice, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional with many choices. Check out was fast and easy. We will definitely stay here again.
This trip was based around spring break and getting our child out of the house to enjoy the pool for one day. It was so cold we couldn't even get in. We've stayed at a lot of hotels and swam in a lot of pools. I'm always cold in pools, but when my child says its cold, its cold! Usually kids can stand a cold pool. We sat in the hot tub the whole time. And I know it just wasn't us because there was another child sitting in the hot tub by himself, not swimming. I asked two different staff members about the temperature of the pool and both blew me off like I didn't know what I was talking about. Breakfast was nice, until I looked down and saw some ants crawling on the floor. Very disappointed in my stay here.
I advise all to stay away from this hotel. Computers do not work for checkout. Staff did not man front desk at all times. Was charged for an extra day. I primarily stay at Best Western but will not in the future because of the way I was treated by its management! Poor choice of lodging by me
I was very pleased with the hotel and the breakfast was great! It was very clean and the room fit my needs very well. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I made new reservations at checkout and the receptionist took care of it with ease.
I don't usually stay in 4 star hotels but this was better than one I stayed at last month. Room 322 was very clean, no cobwebs or funny smell. I asked for a non-pet room because I have pet allergies. The room did not smell like animals have been there. A/C worked great, had a mini-fridge with a few drinks stocked for sell. Nice towels, clean saltwater pool, hot tub (not jacuzzi), breakfast was a good spread, even had chili in evening and drinks (beer, wine, soda) in the lobby. Will definitely stay here again. Friendly staff, evening guy was observant and friendly but all the desk staff was. Everyone had smiles from front desk to maids to handyman.
Where to start... first, there was a used blood test strip left on the bathroom floor for our arrival. They wouldn't accept a gift card that was still valid and even had corporate call them to verify.
Excellent hotel with great amenities and helpful friendly staff! The breakfast was very good, the room was spotless, and the bead was extremely comfortable and yielded a great night's sleep! I highly recommend this hotel!
Very pleased with our stay greeted very warmly and price was reasonable for amenities. The breakfast was very good and a bit different from others along with real plates and silverware! Coffee was just ok and exactly at 9 they turned off the cappuccino machine. Room spacious and clean with comfortable beds. Seems like it was recently updated.
This hotel was a pleasant surprise in a busy suburb of Des Moines. Great location, comfortable amenities, spacious rooms, but the best part of the stay was the clean facilities and outstanding staff. Staff are constantly cleaning and efficient. Breakfast is abundant and varied. I would stay here again, and definitely highly recommend to the next traveler.
Artur the manager is a thief and a creep. Artur likes to stalk his patrons by watching hotel cameras while he is off site. His response below is a complete fabrication of events, and full of lies. He sets up his patrons to be out of compliance so he can charge extra fees. His staff is afraid of him and openly say, "I can't do that, my boss will yell at me." His pet policy puts you out of compliance by trying to eat their inedible breakfast (hard eggs and process bacon pucks) - which you can't bring back to your room because the front desk staff yells at you for taking plates out of the breakfast area - or by bringing you pet in before your luggage. He then tacks on hefty charges. With hotels now being "independently owned and operated" - corporate is of absolutely no help to the consumer. BE AWARE of SCAMS like Artur is running! He is trying to line his pockets on the backs of his guests. He couldn't even have his staff properly clear the sidewalks near the handicapped parking spots, or get the back door to open correctly with key cards. Patrons had to maneuver around a poorly shoveled walk/though snow to get to the front door. He doesn't care about guests - only making more money off of them! My initial review: Best Western Inn and Suites - Des Moines West (Clive, IA). Nice rooms, $25 pet fee per pet. Shady staff. Breakfast was inedible, sidewalks were barely shoveled, and back door didn't open with key card. I checked in on Saturday evening after the dog show. Outside temps were around 0 (maybe below). Sign says no pets left unattended in room. I asked front desk clerk of this included those in kennels. He said yes. I then asked if there were delivery options for food, as it was too cold to leave a dog in the car while I ate (young 13" beagle). He said as long as I went to eat and was back in 1.5 hours, she could stay in the room, in her kennel. Apparently, the boss likes to sit at home and watch the hall cameras. When I got back my room keys were turned off. I went to the front desk and was told, by the same man who said it was ok to leave her, that the boss called and he was in trouble. I then received my email copy of the bill with a $100 unattended pet charge! Called manager and he said, too bad, the front desk guy said he never told me that, he's not running a kennel, and since I signed the pet agreement I was being charged. It's my word against the front desk guy's - I didn't think I had to video our conversation. I guess I will video all check ins from now on. Corporate said they can't do anything if the hotel won't. Photo of Best Western Plus Des Moines West Inn & Suites - Clive, IA, United States. Sidewalks near the handicapped spots. The door near these spots didn't open, so patrons had to get around the building on these sidewalks. Sidewalks near the handicapped spots. A quiet property with great service, rooms as comfortable as you'd ever want, have a great breakfast to start the day make it a pretty good place to stay. Add a nice pool and fitness area pretty much it's like a mini vacation.
Quality hotel at a good price! The continental breakfast is served on china, there are warm cookies on arrival, and a manager's reception on weeknights. Staff was great. Room was clean and quiet. Absolutely great stay.
It's clean and pet friendly which is exactly what we were looking for! The front desk was very helpful and the breakfast was pretty good! The beds were a little hard for my tastes, however that's not really a big deal, I stay in hotels a lot for work, and family time, and best western is always a great experience!
A clean, quiet, convenient place to stay! We were pleasantly surprised by how close to the interstate this motel was. The check in was easy and the clerk recommended a Pizza place that we found was delicious!! Breakfast had many offerings and was served on real dishes! We enjoyed our stay so much that we stayed a second time on our return trip!
This Best Western Plus fulfills it's promise of treating you to an exceptionally welcoming and comfortable stay. All amenities, from porcelain dishes, real glassware and luxurious linens , to a friendly welcoming staff make your stay one you will look forward to repeating in the future.
We stay in Clive once a year on our way south for the winter - first time here as we moved across the freeway due to fact the Wildwood is expensive and charges on top of that $30 for our pet. Rooms were clean and huge - like rooms that have the sink not in the bathroom - wifi was decent except in the morning - breakfast was great and they use real china, silver and glassware - several hot items including eggs
Two issues:1) Our family has been coming here every December for 5+ year for our annual family Christmas celebration. I was told that we had to reserve 15 rooms to use the meeting room on Saturday evening for no charge. On Friday and Saturday night combined my family had 19 rooms occupied. On Sunday at checkout I was told the 15 rooms had to be in one night. That is not reasonable. Over our concerns we still paid $100 for the meeting room. 2) My husband and I had a room on Friday and Saturday. It was not cleaned on Saturday. My husband had to empty the garbage. When I checked out on Sunday I mentioned that my room was not cleaned. I was told that 20% was taken off my bill. I expressed my appreciation. On the way home I looked at the bill and saw on 10% was taken off my bill.
Stayed here because it's dog friendly. Room was clean and bed fairly comfortable. Breakfast was okay (rubbery fried eggs sort of scary though), and like other reviewers, I appreciated the real plates, glasses, and cutlery. The big downside was the paper thin walls. You can hear everything going on on both sides of you, plus every footstep above.
I am just "rubber stamping" the previous reviews. The results speak for themselves as far as other traveler's reviews. This place is so pristine and it was at a reasonable rate. You will love the breakfast, friendly staff and the super nice rooms.
Very nice facility, well run and well maintained. Hint, book you room direct, rather than on line. I have stayed here many times , you then get more personal attention for your special needs , requests, and many times abetter room rate.
We honestly can't say enough good things about this hotel and will definitely be returning any time we are in the area. We don't have a single thing negative to say. Everything seemed very upclass. Even breakfast was served using real dishes and glasses and had plenty to chose from. The staff was wonderful, the hotel was very clean, the bed extremely comfortable, ice and vending on every floor, very quiet even though we were right next to the interstate, great breakfast options, location, etc. We stayed in a Hilton in Minneapolis that wasn't this nice and friendly. Loved our stay!
Nice hotel with all inside entrances and elevator. Large breakfast area also used for reception from 5 to 7 every Monday through Wednesday, with beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres. Comfy chair with movable table in our room with 2 Queen beds. Good area just off highway, near several other hotels.
Great Hotel expetience.Free breakfast - 6 to7 rating.Clean, comfortable facility. Pool, Fitness Area, adequate dining room, business center. Nice ramp to elevator area.8 to 9 bed comfort.Good Wi-Fi speed
This is a pretty high quality Best Western. The room was very nice. We got in late and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was pretty standard. They did have a complementary Wall Street Journal with the breakfast which is great if that's what you're into. The hotel is actually in Clive, which is just west of Des Moines and is in a great area if you are looking for a quiet place to spend a night and eat at Cracker Barrel, which is right down the road
Exceptionally clean room with all amenities expected. Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast service was average plus and the social hour is a nice touch as well. Absolutely no issues with this stay, and that is very much appreciated!
We stayed for a family visit. The room was clean and the guests were quiet. I would not typically stay in a Best Western, but we would stay in this one again. The hotel amenities were plentiful, and good brands.
Convenient to many restaurants & bicycling trails. The property & hotel was clean, lots of parking, clean & spacious King room, decent Internet, and good breakfast selections. We will stay here again!
Had an issue with the toliet and when it was brought to the attention of the manager he told us there was no maintenance person on duty and he couldn't leave his desk and offered us a plunger. I went up and told my husbandnd he came down to address this issue since we are not maintenance people didn't feel it was our responsibility to take care of this. He said he would try to call the owner since he couldn't leave his spot (and trust me he never did move) We asked for another room since we obviously couldn't use the one we were in. He said he couldn't do that. He did try to contact the owner again. The owner finally suggested that he give us another room, we agreed but when we went to move in the air conditioner didn't work, nor did the TV and there were some electrically issues. All were taken care of by a switch and eventually the manager left his post and came up. He was told to come up and see what was going on since another patron had an issue with their toilet. In both of our opinions this will be the last time we come to this facililty. It was our fourth BW Plus on the trip and had nothing but wonderful experiences everywhere else. On check out asked the girl at the desk to have the owner contact us regarding this matter and we are home 4 days and have heard nothing. We have stayed there before and never had any issues.
First time staying at a BW in a very long time. The changes that were made to the rooms and the breakfast bar, make this a go to stay on any of my travel lists! It was a very unexpected yet satisfying experience!
Very clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Nice Bathroom and Shower. Breakfast was good. Nice choices plus fresh fruit. Staff is very friendly. Nice pool. They also have Direct TV for entertainment. Free Wifi.
As always BW maintains consistency with their product. Clean facilities and friendly helpful staff. The big plus was that there were two restaurants within close walking distance to the facility. A big plus for us due to the fact that we are usually pulling a trailer and don't want to have to try and find a place for dinner with all that rig behind us.
Good value in an area that is close to many attractions. Comfortable bed, good breakfast. Believe this hotel could use more insulation. Could hear noisy footsteps above our room & the shower running in the room next to us at 2 in the morning. Otherwise, it was everything we needed.
The room was great, we had no problems with it. Beds were good, WiFi was a little spotty, but not bad. Quiet, comfortable. Only problem we encountered was the front desk person. She was very harsh, not the friendly front desk person I would have liked to have. It is not what you say, but how you say it. I wanted to check in a little early down we could get ready for a wedding, she was not budging with me about getting an early check in. I understand they have rooms to clean, but I was just wanting to check in at 1 or 2 pm.. check in is normally at 3 pm.. as a Best Western it is our job to accommodate our guests to the best of our ability and I felt The front desk clerk was not providing the best smiling attitude we should all have.
Clean and quiet rooms, great breakfast, comfortable beds .. what more can you ask for. The staff is attentive to your needs, if you have any. The parking is plentiful and warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in is a nice bonus!
Best Western Clive is easy to drive to and is a wonderful place to stay. From the time you check in till you check out you will find very friendly staff and a clean well maintained building. We found the room to be comfortable and quiet, the continental breakfast delicious, and the overall stay wonderful.
I've stayed at 1 new and two remodeled Best Western hotels this year, all of them have been clean, comfortable and had friendly staff. I would recommend Best Western hotels to anyone who appreciates a fair price and a clean, well appointed hotel room.
The hotel staff (one older woman particularly and the owner) were very rude over the phone. We also witnessed the same woman being very rude to others who were staying at the hotel. Breakfast was good and rooms were clean, but wouldn't stay again due to customer service. I informed the owner of this and he didn't care to apologize.
so, i booked a hotel room here last week, because wildwood was full. anyways for a double standard room, it was over 200 dollars. the hotel was dingy and dirty, the beds were springy and loud. over all terrible
Great Service and extra touches; beverages in mini fridge, snacks and beverages in the lobby, etc. Check in staff recognized my company name and global growth of my company in the last 20 years!. Room upgrade due to Diamond+ status.
Very nice refreshments in the evening, wine, beer, soda, pizza included with the room charge. Nice fitness center, pool with hot tub. Easy access from interstate with plenty of parking. Very quiet rooms allowing pets, but also rooms without pets .
Great friendly staff that are very accomodating! Nice social hour in the evenings with snacks and drinks provided. Rooms are very clean and inviting. Will stay here again for business! Would recommend to any one traveling in the area.
This was very best motel that we have ever stayed at and they have very good friendly staff and service. We stayed there on our honeymoon and got great service and discount on our checking. Room air conditioner was very cold, room was very clean and bed was very comfortable and great shower and big. We recommend this motel to anyone who is looking for great place to stay. Close to Cracker Barrel restaurant and gas stations.
We stayed here during the Clive Festival. Our whole family met up for the weekend. I have to say that the place is very clean and kept up. The pool area is ample size. The rooms are good size and very nice. The best part is the breakfast. They have something for everyone. You get real dishes, but have on option for paper and plastic if you want to take it back to your room. The only thing I disliked was the guy at check in. He seemed disinterested and mumbled through some sentences so quickly, I could not understand. Again that doesn't take away from the nice motel and comfortable stay. We will stay here again.
We stayed at this hotel as we were going to the BMW MOA motorcycle rally in Des Moines. The hotel room was very nice and looked to be freshly painted. There were real dishes to eat on for breakfast and breakfast was quickly replenished despite being very busy. The big issue with this hotel is there is no onsite laundry. For hotel that presents itself as motorcycle friendly this is a major inconvenience. Motorcyclists tend to pack light and wash often. As well we don't send our clothes out. The hotel is also a $35 dollar cab ride from the airport and not exactly close to the fair grounds.
We booked this BW because of Trip Advisor mostly positive ratings. We have been on an 14 day trip a cross the US and have stayed at quite a few BW hotels. This hotel is not up to par with the ones we have stayed in the past few weeks. The hotel has been updated and common areas were clean. The room was well decorated and clean. But decorating and clean alone does not make a pleasurable stay. The bed was not comfortable and obviously the mattress had not been replaced when they updated the hotel. When we looked under the fitted sheet there was only a thin piece of flannel for a mattress pad that did not even cover the whole top of the mattress and the mattress was discolored around the edges. There is no towel bar or safety bar to grab when you get in or out of the tub or to put your towel on when you get out of the tub. The towel rack is 5 feet away from the tub on the opposite wall so you have to walk out of the tub to get the towel or put it on the floor next to the tub. The breakfast was your usual free breakfast. The night clerk and the morning clerk were doom and gloom and not very friendly. They did not acknowledge us by name when we Che ked in or ask how our stay was or thank us when we checked out. Just handed us the bill.
Would recommend staying at this location. Great staff and services. If back in this are will try to stay in this location. Only issue was small issue with wasps in a window well that they were aware and removing.
I stay here every Monday for work. The staff and owner are always willing to go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable. CLC friendly. Very easy to get in and out of here with an 18 wheeler! If I ever had to come to Des Moines for personal reasons this would be the place I would stay.
We stayed at two different Best Westerns while on vacation. I was pleasantly surprised at how stylish and clean both were! Both offered excellent breakfast as well! Very impressed with the amenities. My children loved the pool area and the hotel staff was so helpful!
I felt welcomed here. The staff were genuinely happy to have me as a guest. The night clerk was friendly, polite, and ready to help. It was very encouraging! Very clean rooms - the housekeeper clearly paid attention to details. Breakfast...yeah buddy... Such a wide selection and REAL PLATES! I would go back here again just for the breakfast. Good fast internet, although it was rather empty when I stayed.
We had the pleasure staying at this Best Western in IA. We had a very nice room (suite) that was very large and comfortable. It had two nice televisions, sofa, two chairs, nice desk/chair, microwave, refrigerator and other amenities. We will stay here again on our travels and I would recommend this hotel.
We came in on Saturday for a wedding at 2:00 pm hoping to check in a little early for a wedding at 4:00. Was told our room would not be ready because it was a king suite. Asked if there was somewhere we could change was told they had nothing. Waited until 3:00, went back to the desk and very nicely asked if it was ready and was told of course it is...all of our rooms are ready! Very rudely told about the deposit for damages and smoking in the room or pets and that we would be evicted immediately for any of these...we are 55 years old and not throwing any wild parties. Next morning realized we only had 2 bath towels. Called the front desk to request more and again was very rudely told the King suite only comes with 2 bath towels and if I needed more I would need to come down and get them! The room accommodates 4 guests so how can you assume you only need 2 towels! The sofa bed is incredibly uncomfortable and the bedding does not fit the sofa bed. I have stayed at more expensive hotels and less expensive hotels and never been treated so rudely. And we were not the only guests at this hotel staying for a wedding party that had issues with the front desk staff. If you don't want to be cordial to your paying guests, please don't go into the hospitality industry.
We were greeted by David and he had a very positive attitude and how can I help you personality! The price was great and the room was very, very nice. Spacious, plenty of towels and very clean! Breakfast was the standard fair but you were eating on actual plates and glasses not paper plates!! If you want a very nice and clean hotel with people who have a "How can I help Attitude" stay here!
Very clean and safe- perfect place to stop on a cross country road trip. This hotel has good rooms, and is in a great location west of the city with convenient access to a very pretty running/exercise trail. The indoor pool is clean and reasonably warm, and the staff is fantastic. From booking to check in to breakfast to check out every employee we spoke with was extremely courteous and helpful. Side bonus, we met the owner as we were checking out, and we learned our car battery had died overnight because we left a light on. He volunteered to help us jump start the car and get us on the road. I was very impressed with his effort to make our stay great.
Clean facility and friendly staff. Location convenient for I-80 travelers. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast area was clean and offered a suitable variety. I would not recommend the restaurant closest to the hotel. Wait staff were very good but food, not so good.
It's very clean the staff is friendly the breakfast selections are excellent It's hard to find a more comfortable place at such a great value in the area. It's a friendly and quiet place to stay you can't go wrong.
We generally choose BW because they are a good value and, when our dogs are with us, pet friendly. Room was clean. We enjoyed having a sofa area so did not have to sit only on a bed. Lots of hot water, more than adequate breakfast.
I believe this motel had recently been renovated based on the appearance. It was very quiet and very clean. The rooms (king size) were very nice size and our room had microwave and refrigerator. This motel is conveniently located near major restaurants in the WDM area.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I mean, yeah, sure this Hotel is awesome if you like being treated poorly and getting ripped off. Me, my fiancé and my cat booked this hotel through trip advisor during our voyage across country to our new home. The description stated that this hotel was pet friendly. Perfect, we booked our reservation and showed up the next day ready for a night of rest. When I got to the front desk to check in I told the man it was me, my fiancé and our cat. He then explained they only accept dogs so unfortunately we wouldn't be able to stay there, but that the hotel across the street accepted all animals. He gave me a number to call to get our money back that we pre paid for our room. Okay, no problem. We went across the street and luckily they had a room for us. We called the number he gave us and they didn't answer, after 3 attempts we decided to call trip advisor. Long story short- This Hotel has to release the money we paid for the room to the third party and they then refund us. After a 15 minute back and forth with the owner/manager of the hotel (best western) he informed me that he COULD refund the money but he WONT. He made ridiculous comparisons about “what if we brought a horse” and belittled us saying we shouldn't trust the website we should've called. I'm not even upset that they don't allow cats, I know a lot of people are allergic, I get it. But he's CHOOSING not to refund us just for a couple extra bucks in his pocket. Word of advice, I'm sure it's a nice hotel, with nice workers, but take your business somewhere else, where the owner of the establishment is willing to help out his guests.
Love this hotel. I stay here for business often and I always has an awesome stay. My last stay, I had to leave unexpected due to a death in my family. The staff was so caring and helpful. Cathy made me feel like she really cared about me. I love the staff.
Handy location right off the interstate. We had a room with king bed and hot tub. Nice sized, comfortable bed. Pool is salt water instead of chlorine, which is nice. Breakfast was decent for included in stay. Easy access to Des Moines area attractions, or if you are just passing thru. Would definitely stay here again.
Each year we drive to SPI Texas ...we stay in Best Western Hotels ...over the many years we have gone to SPI we have stayed several times BW in Clive/DesMoines, Iowa...it is always a pleasant experience...The staff is very helpful ...easy to talk to ....help you find places especially to eat....we also very much like that they use glass/porcelin dishes in the breakfast room...the breakfasts have full flavor and variety...good coffee too...there are glass glasses to drink from in the room...I am not a fan to platic/paper dishes and utensils...so anyone who wants a good night or nights stay checkout BW in Clive/DesMoines....
We're on an extended cross country road trip. This Best Western is in a great location for freeway access. We were in room 301 - it was quiet, dark, beds were comfortable - nice and firm, had just the right amount of bedding e.g. no hot comforters, real glass glasses and coffee mugs in the room - the only thing I can suggest is caffeine free tea. The Breakfast was the best we've had yet - real fried eggs, fresh fruit, very good pastries and hot coffee. The breakfast presentation was good and clean. Real dishes, plates, glasses, silverware, and coffee cups. I need my herb tea though. This is our second time staying here and we will be back! Oh- The Club Car Restuarant is 1 mile away and is excellent for dinner.
Stayed there for a night while visiting friends. Easy access from interstate. Friendly check-in/out and nice clean room. The only real complaint is that it was hot and the air-conditioner was extremely loud when it cycled on and off.
Good clean room. Evening reception was nice but wine was a bit old (Last inch when put out.). Good location. Friendly employees. Breakfast was not special but did the job. Close to many restaurants and the business I was in town to see.
This hotel is in a safe, convenient location. Have stayed at least once per year for several years for business & pleasure. Always very clean, friendly. Rooms recently updated. 'Happy hour' during weekdays is a nice touch.
I use the Best Western Plus Des Moines West Inn & Suites, Clive, Iowa whenever I stay in Des Moines. It is my motel of choice because of the location, quality rooms and amenities, and friendly helpful staff.
Modern, clean hotel on west side of DesMoines. Evening social provided enough food that we didn't have to go out for dinner. Easy on/off of I-35. Cracker Barrel next door if necessary. Neat, clean, comfortable room. Extremely friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was average with both hot and cold choices. Would stay again.
This hotel seems newly remodeled and the king bed room was very nice. Because it was a Tuesday night, there was free pizza and beer provided in the eating area. We didn't even have to go out for dinner that night. Front desk staff was very helpful. Breakfast was just average.
Had a wonderful stay at this BW Plus. Beautifully decorated. Very comfortable. Easy access to I 35. A lot of nice restaurants near by. We would definitely stay here again. It is a notch above the other comparable properties. Definitely worth the cost, which was excellent.
The hotel has been remodeled, well not really. What Best Western really did is replace the flooring and a couple of other things. The hotel is seriously dated. Don't believe me just look at all the door casings. I rented a room with a jacuzzi. The acoustics in the room were awful. New floor, but old jacuzzi with hair in it. Bed was ok for best western. Front desk service was good with free soft drinks and cheap pizza. I had King Kong above my room. I recommend getting a room on the top floor if you have to stay here. Apparently the other reviewers don't travel too much and I am not sure where all the good reviews are coming from. The building does look nice on the outside and the lobby is nice. I wasn't happy with my overall experience though.
Our stay was exceptional. David is an amazing employee, he made check in a breeze. He is very knowledgeable about the area, giving recommendations on places to eat, places to visit and activities for the family. You could tell he loves his job. Housekeeping did a great job, paid alot of attention to detail. The hotel is clean and comfortable, very welcoming. The beds were very comfortable and the couch was great for my child to sleep on. You can tell the owner takes pride in his hotel. I would most definitely stay at this hotel again.
I had a very nice stay here. Room was nice and clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful in my interaction. They had a very nice happy hour with some good food choices and drinks that was just wrapping up when I checked in. The breakfast was also nice. Very nice hotel and value for the stay.
We have stayed at the Best Western Plus in Clive several times while we were in Des Moines and it has always been a pleasant experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast buffet is excellent.
I have stayed at this facility many, many times over the years and have always been pleased with the accomodations and courtesy of the staff. Mostly business trips but on a few occasions I have made it a point to stay there on vactions as well. It's convienient access makes staying in the Clive / West DesMoines area simple and enjoyable. Look forward to many more future bookings when I'm in the vacinity.
We enjoyed our stay. The service was excellent with a great breakfast buffet. The rooms were very clean and appreciated the plush towels in the bath room. The location was terrific when travelling on the I-35.
After a long day of travel starting in Minneapolis then to Mayo Clinic in Rochester and then to the Des Moines area it was nice to see the Best Western Plus hotel sign as our evening destination. We generally prefer staying at Best Western for the value we receive, We took a chance and there was a vacancy. The reception clerk was very pleasant and helpful, The hotel has been recently upgraded and they did a great job of decorating the rooms and public areas. The hotel had easy access from the freeway and was near many restaurants which offer a variety of choices. Would highly recommend this hotel,
Great service, room setup, (except would also prefer a vanity in room with the tup/shower also.) Bedding comfortable, loved all the extra pillows. Breakfast was good, good coffee , juice, etc. (the eggs were overcooked, scrambled would have been better)
We have stayed at this hotel 3 times now with our small dog as we travel home from the Chicago area. It is a very modern hotel with pet friendly rooms that have a laminate floor instead of carpeting. They also only charge $20 for a pet as opposed to Marriott hotels that range from $35-$100. The morning breakfast is OK. The potatoes we had on our recent trip were not good at all and I am someone who is not picky when it comes to food.
Nice and affordable hotel with well lit parking area. Rooms were clean and staff friendly. Nice continental breakfast. Convenient location to interstate, restaurants and shopping. I would recommend this to others and I would also stay at this location in the future.
A multi-night stay at a hotel requires a great staff (they have that here), clean comfortable rooms (got that too), and a hearty breakfast (and boy do they have that)! Not only is there a great selection of healthy and fun foods, but they mix it up from day to day going from bacon to sausage, waffles and pancakes to French toast, coffees, sweet rolls, fruits, oatmeal with lots if toppings, biscuits and gravy ... Come for the good night's rest, but make sure you stay for breakfast. I did!
Stayed here over the weekend with our friends. Both of our rooms were comfortable, clean and refurbished. They served eggs and bacon. They could have been tastier, but were a nice addition! They have a pool and the front desk clerk was very friendly.
Experienced friendly staff and clean room, with exceptional shower. The bed was exceptional, breakfast had adequate variety, and the location handy for on/off of interstate highway. The TV guide did offer some challenges but quality of programming of superior status.
I typically stay at Hilton properties while on business. The Hilton was booked so I chose this Best Western. I was pleasantly surprised by the great staff, clean, comfortable property. Breakfast was available but I did not utilize that service.
The room was very well outfitted and comfortable. The breakfast had a nice spread of options, and I've never had such cooperative internet in a hotel before. I'll definitely be looking to book this location again next time I'm in the area.
I was only there for one night, so I didn't fully enjoy all they offered. But the room was very nice, comfortable and clean. The hotel personnel I met were both helpful and courteous. The hotel was right off the I-80 Clive exit, so it was easy to find. The parking was plentiful and pretty close to the center door going to the rooms. They had a complimentary breakfast, and a nice variety of grains, fruit, muffins, and rolls. I'd stay there again next time I go by that way.
We have been staying here for several years and always had a good experience. They have discontinued their happy hour except for Monday through Wednesday. Breakfast was out of orange juice and the biscuits were old hockey pucks. The night clerk had zero personality. All in all not a great nights stay. The room was clean. We will be using the Drury in the future.
I stay at this BW for it's location when going on I-80 the hotel has excellent value, the room are clean and the bed are great for a good night sleep But get room away from the street much quieter The breakfast is always good and hot.
We stayed at this Best Western Plus based upon reviews on TripAdvisor and our stay at an excellent Best Western Plus in Albert Lea, Minnesota. This was the exact opposite. Our room was run down and dirty. Although it had updated carpet and furnishings, the bathroom tile had not been maintained, was filthy and floors dirty in the corners. We arrived at the breakfast area between 7-7:30 am. The potatoes were empty, as well as the bacon. There were just a few eggs left. I could not locate an attendant for the area, so asked the front desk clerk, who indicated the attendant was in the process of heating food. We waited approximately 5 minutes when the attendant brought out "bacon." She never refilled the potatoes while we were there, instead sweeping the floor. I could not get her attention to ask, but she may not have spoken English. We ate "bacon" and an egg. While making a waffle, I was approached by an older man, who appeared to be taking inventory and restocking supplies. He scolded me for using a spray oil that was sitting near the waffle iron. He asked who instructed me to use the spray. I told him no one, but I assumed since it was sitting there I was supposed to spray the waffle iron with it before pouring the waffle batter in. He mumbled that it shouldn't have been left out. The staff from check in through breakfast was unimpressive. We will not be back; and it is doubtful we will try Best Western again, with the exception of the excellent Albert Lea location. See photos attached.
Easy to locate, right off the interstate. Parking was easy, right by the door. Staff was friendly, helpful, interested in our stay. Pool was nice, warm. Breakfast was good. Access to stairs was quick. Ice machine worked.
I thought this was a new hotel because of the way it was kept up. The owners clearly do a nice job staying ahead of any wear and tear. The only downside, they don't allow food or drink in the pool area (even if there in plastic cups) and the jets don't work on the hot tub. Highly recommend this hotel.
Right off the freeway on west side of Des Moines (Clive), either new or remodeled. Very spacious suite w/living area w/TV & bed area w/ TV. All the usual amenities , and very clean. One drawback, no freezer in the small refrigerator. Usual hotel breakfast items, all well don, REAL DISHES! Easy walking distance to Cracker Barrel and mexican food restaurant next door.
Located right off the Interstate, this property is within walking distance of several restaurants and close to shopping. You will find the staff to be professional in demeanor, action and dress and able to combine business-like efficiency with a personable charm that equates to a fine level of customer service. The rooms are clean, well appointed and quiet. The breakfast area while a bit small is adequate to its purpose and the breakfast items are plentiful and fresh. With plenty of competition in the area, I find this property to be well deserving of my travel dollars and have stayed here more than once for multiple nights each time.
The Best Western Motel in Clive, Iowa was the best value that I found in the last couple of years. The room was good, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was the best that I ever found that came with the room at no extra charge. I plan of staying there again.
we thought every little aspect of the hotel was designed to add to the comfort of the hotel guests we really enjoyed the selection of the breakfast offerings and the presentation of the different items and the expansive room that was available to fix our plates
Had a nice stay at this site. Was upgraded to room with a jacuzzi at no cost. WOW! A bit disappointed with gentleman at front desk as he was a bit disheveled looking and kept sniffeling as he checked us in. But the room was very nice and we would definitely stay again.
The hotel itself was nice but the lobby area and meeting room was very humid and stuffy. We were in the meeting room from 8:30 to 3:30 and it was extremely warm. We also were very crammed in room. Definitely was too small for our group.
The room was nice, beds were good. There were a few quirks to the room, but nothing that would stop me from staying here again. Pool is a little small, but our kids enjoyed it. The breakfast is your typical hotel breakfast, but its served in the charming lobby with real dishes (no paper or plastic!). They have coffee available all day, and the lobby staff was super friendly. Location is right off an interstate so it was super easy to get to.
Off the highway and easy to find. Nice clean hotel, also has a great breakfast that begins early so you can get back on the road. We stayed going and coming back from Montana. We will make this a usual stop.
Very nice accommodations, room pleasantly decorated, lobby was very nice for group gatherings. Food was great and hotel sponsored meet and great puzzle night was a pleasant surprise. Staff was friendly and cheerful. Great access to many restaurants and local activities.
This hotel was great, the staff were awesome, rooms clean and comfortable. Very spacious. Lobby area well decorated and modern. Free hot breakfast, many options and it was all good. Pool area was nice. Beds very comfortable.
The hotel was very nice. There was full HD TV, including a guide which is a nice feature. The internet was fast and reliable, I got at least 5 Mbps download, which was enough for me. There was also a nice feature on the Heating/AC for a constant fan. I have had great customer service at multiple Best Westerns, and I am going to be a customer for life.
Stayed here on the way to visit family in IL. Convenient right off the interstate. Easy check in, check out, clean spacious room with in room coffee, breakfast was available, ice machine located on the same floor. Will stay here again!
I slept there on a way to another destination and then slept there again few days later on a way back. Both nights deserve 5 stars. Staff was great and helpful and room was clean (including bathroom! - one of my pet peeves). Breakfast was also pretty good. I'll definitively stay there again.
Stoped here for one night on our way north, great room with plenty of space, good breakfast with more than average variety of items, very friendly staff & helpful with local dinner recommendations. Very good fresh baked cookies at front desk throughout our stay
This hotel was very clean and comfortable. Had family coming from several directions to visit with me and they were all welcome and able to visit in swim and dinning areas. Excellent place to stay. Except for the continued loss of high speed internet, this hotel was awesome. Even brought in pizza as we were checking in on Tuesday night for all guests.
One day stay, room and hallway reasonably clean, bed and pull out bed mattress ok but they have some of the worst lumpy pillows. Also the elevator is slower than paint drying. Breakfast was ok but the cappachino machine broke, stuff happens.
Just an overnight stay while traveling, so we stopped here for one night. I did check a few Trip Advisor reviews and most were ok. Got in around 11. Night desk clerk not friendly at all. There was no parking in front so he told us we could park around the back and use our key to get in the back door. Back door would not work so my son had to walk completely around the building to alert the desk clerk. He told my son that sometimes the keys don't work the first time. He gave him another key and said this one would work. We did this with 3 different keys, 3 times around the building. None worked. No apologies. It was obvious there was damage to the key reader and after reading previous reviews, he/management knew there was a problem prior to our being there. As the previous review said, GET IT FIXED! Very frustrating to weary travelers who just want to get to their room and get a good night's sleep. No other issues with the hotel as we did not use any amenities at the hotel.
Hotel is clean and comfortable, but breakfast they had some kind of meat entry that was sliced very thin, but was very dry and like shoe leather. However they did have the typical made to order waffles, but had strawberries, not jam or preserves to put on them. Balanced out the inedible meat, whatever it was.
We like to stay at BW and this location was on the west side allowing us an easy morning departure. It is right on I80 and I35 but is far enough away that this hotel is pretty quiet. Check in was easy. Hot tub and pool were very nice and clean. After a quick dip, we cleaned up and headed to the lobby for Happy Hour. It was from 5 to 7 pm and they offered pizza and chips, as well as adult beverages. We noticed quite a few guests walking past and leaving to go out to eat. I don't think many hotels offer Happy Hour to their guests, so people didn't take advantage of it. Pizza was excellent. Our room was very quiet and very nice. We had a great night sleep. Breakfast was excellent as well. All glassware, not paper and plastic. Hot biscuits and gravy, fresh made pancakes, cereal, fruit, all very much appreciated. Definitely would stay here again.
Always stay at BW, but will go ouy of my way to not stay at this one again! It was so hot in the room and needed to call down to have the air turned on. Plus, I had a very hard time finding this location.
We had a nice stay except our whirlpool tub in our room didn't work properly and all other rooms were booked so they couldn't give us another room. It ruined our weekend getaway but they were very nice and took 20% off our bill.
Absolutely clean, easy to get to. Very friendly staff. I will put.this on my list of places to stay! Never heard any doors slam, breakfast was very fresh and hot.very good parking lot with lots.of security lights. Close to many amenities.
We recently stayed at this hotel overnight returning home from spending time with family/friends in Nebraska. My daughter, grandson, and guide dog stayed in the van while my husband escorted me to check-in. The front desk clerk offered to upgrade us to a double queen suite. As a curtsy to the hotel, my husband mentioned that I had a guide dog. The front desk clerk then immediately withdrew the offer of an upgrade and placed us in a small room with two doubles and no carpet. The room was small and it felt very crowded with the 3 of us plus a pre-toddler and a 85lb golden retriever. The beds in this room were also uncomfortable. As a seasoned traveler I understand comfort of beds is a matter of personal opinion for the most part. However, we had just checked out of another Best Western in Nebraska which we had stayed at for the previous 7 nights. The beds in that hotel were very comfortable by comparison. I'm not sure how old this hotels furnishings are, but in my opinion they need newer mattresses. At breakfast the breakfast staf approached me and stated "Ma'am, dogs are not allowed int he breakfast area." My guide dog was lying quietly at my feet in harness with sign clearly displayed "Do not pet me I am working." At check-out my husband reported the issues to the manager/owner. He was informed by this person that because I had a dog I was NOT entitled to a carpeted room, and therefore had been given a "pet friendly" room. PLEASE NOTE - service dogs (including guide dogs) are NOT pets. I do not know if this situation is ignorance of the Americans with Disabilities Act on the part of this hotel owner/manager and his staff or discrimination - or both. However, you do not treat guests in this manner - especially Best Western rewards guests who frequent your brand of hotels. I am hopeful this will never happen again to any other guests. I am deeply disappointed, hurt, and angry at the treatment my family and I received by this hotel.
The Best Western in Clive IA was very clean easy to access the interstate and pet friendly. The price was right also. The breakfast bar was very good. The Manager's hors d'oeuvres and beer / wine from 5 to 7 was a pleasant surprise.
This was my second time at this property while traveling back from Colorado. Property is clean and has a very good appearance. Rooms are clean, breakfast is very good and the staff is gracious. Highly recommend this property.
We spent the weekend in Des Moines, IA at the Best Western Motel. Very clean and very well run-Breakfasts were wonderful with lots of choices. The check-in and check out staff answered all out questions and were very helpful. One of the best motels in Des Moines.
We pulled into the hotel at around midnight after 500 miles on the Harley. As diamond members we were givin a free upgrade to a whirlpool sweet. It was well needed. Also I like the fact that there were large drinking glasses in the room, not just paper cups. Every staff person I dealt with was very friendly All in all a wonderful nights rest
Excellent off I 80 location. A great deal of shopping within 2 mi. Lots of grassy area for pets. Had a Great dinner at Biaggi's Italian nearby. They provided everything necessary for a full take out meal.
The staff was very helpful and friendly, the whole hotel was super clean and quiet, the bed was wonderful, overall a great nights sleep! This Best Western was so good it is now my #1 choice of hotel in Des Moines!
Planned to stay at the neighboring Country Inn & Suites, but a less than welcoming front desk changed my plans. Made a late reservation at Best Western from their lobby. When I arrived, I was quickly checked in at 10% less than my reservation quote. The room was new and clean and the bed was comfy. I'd come back!
Staff was nice but the room was a disappointment (dirty bathroom, tv remote didn't work, dog barking). Not a Best Western Plus I would recommend to others. We did not complain so nothing was addressed
This hotel has been remodeled recently and it's very nice. The staff was excellent. Craig, the evening desk clerk, was extremely helpful to us. We asked him for some information about the Bridges of Madison Co. and he found it on their website and printed out a map for us. He was very helpful with other local information too.
Nice hotel. Our a/c did not work well the first night. Hotel staff were very accommodating and assisted us in moving to another room. Otherwise, no difficulties on concerns. I would stay here again for the price.
Third annual stay. Same malfunctioning lock on exterior door all three years. Otherwise, quiet, clean and an exceptional location for someone traveling with a dog. Lots of grass, an amenity that few places that accept pets provide. But why can't they fix that lock? This year, the front desk clerk just shook his head when I asked about it. If it weren't for that one recurring problem, I would rate it higher.
Excellent location easy on / off interstate quick access North, South, East or West. couple miles from downtown, 8 miles from the airport one exit from the truck stop. Would not recommend this location for larger vehicle parking with commercial trailers. Parking lot would be tight. Very nice location Quiet. Great breakfast loved the round bacon.
This facility has recently undergone an update and the furnishings and rooms were very nice and fresh. The breakfast was good and there was adequate seating for all who wanted to eat. A nice, but unneeded touch in the breakfast area was real plates, bowls, glasses and silverware.
Everything here is good, nice pillows and good mattress, nice dark rooms at night, good shower, good sized room (we had double queens and didn't feel cramped). Not sure why anyone would complain about the breakfast - as it was very good, significantly better than HI Express. This is a very good place, recently renovated and clean.
Hotel very so so. Not to the standards of Best Western. Disappointed in breakfast and general over all experience. Check out was impersonal. The clerk was more interested in watching The Tour De France then checking us out.
Had cancelled our original best western in an other state to drive a little closer to being home from a long rode trip. Was able to save at least a $50.00 difference for the night by switching to this hotel and we were only eight hours from home instead of eleven hours.
The location easy off highway. Gas and good restaurants close. Very nice safe area. Wonderful staff. Comfortable beds. The air conditioner blew cold, not all do.i love to sleep in a very cool room. Recommend
Stayed as a family of four. Exceeded our expectations. Friendly front desk and gave us an upgrade to suite. Kids loved it, as their side had their 'own' tv. Plenty of space for everyone. What really won me over was the breakfast selection. It is the first property and first change to have almond milk. Yup!! I was delighted. It also had make your on yogurt station w granola, raisins, almonds, etc. I also enjoyed the pre-made eggs to make my own egg mcmuffin, plus the bacon was extra crispy. Don't worry, they also had cereal and pancakes. Highly recommend!!
Pretty rare when I can't think of even one "con" when reporting on a hotel. To start with: good location (for me). Check-in was quick & easy, I had a very nice, large, clean room. Fridge & mic. Nice work desk, enough outlets to run my laptop & charge all of my other stuff. Very fast internet. Comfortable bed & very quiet at night (and otherwise). Pool & exercise room. Lots of small amenities (extendable close-up mirror in bathroom, etc...) and one big one: The "reception" or "social hour" in the lobby from 5-7pm. Free pizza, chips, dip, nuts & chex mix, plus wine, beer & soda. Nice perk, especially if you're running late and need to save time. An easy 5 stars.
We stayed for one nigth! we got problem with the toilet and inmediatly we were moved to another room! The problem was solved very fast!!!! Breakfast is complete , really good and the dining area is very nice and complete!
Very pleased with the service staff and facilities. The location to major highways, city amenities, and the airport ensured no friends had to travel excessively to get to the hotel and other meeting places.
Recently renovated, just an average hotel room. The hotel and grounds are well maintained and clean. My most annoying experience was that my keys would get deactivated (maybe it was my fault if they got too close to my phone), but they do deactivate the keys every 2 days...for a 3 day stay..that is annoying.
Quick overnight for business. Motel was easy to find, and in a good location for restaurants. Staff were very helpful. I was looking forward to the Happy Hour, but was not has good as other Best Western's that I have been at. Fitness room wasn't big, but machines worked just fine. Overall good stay.
We were having car trouble on our first trip. David went out of his way to find us a nearby AAA approved garage. He also upgraded our room, and recommended a great Italian restaurant that delivered for free. They are located right off the freeway, have a great breakfast selection, and provide a treat for your furry family member. We were so impressed with the service, that we made a point of returning on our way home. Same wonderful service on our second stay as well.
It was a nice place to stay for a couple of days. The weather was nice and the rocking chairs out side were very enjoyable. The location was great due to all of the places to eat and it was next to the Freeway, but you did not here the road noise.
Only stayed one night. The hotel has been updated since I last stayed here and both the lobby area and rooms look nicer. Beds were more comfortable than most (I think all hotels should flip or rotate mattresses and replace them more frequently since they all end up getting broken down on the sides where guests sit on them). The scent in the lobby was too strong and the elevators were slow. It offered the best price in the area where we wanted to stay and we would stay here again.
Great room, friendly staff, free happy hours, and complimentary food. Can't beat that. Our room was clean and had a refrigerator and microwave. The pool was small but I never had time to spend there anyway. Great experience for a business trip
I have stayed in this hotel many times over several years for business and pleasure. Newly remodeled this year, very nice, clean rooms & amenities. Quick easy access to interstate. Helpful friendly staff. The 'happy hour' on week days is a great extra to relax after a business day.
This hotel was a pleasant place to stay. Rooms were clean and the price was good. Hotel staff were nice. Dave, the night manager, was very helpful in finding a good place to eat, that we would never found on our own. Would stay here again
Hotel was very clean and freshly remodeled. Staff was kind enough to make me a bagged breakfast when I had to leave at 3:45 am for a race. Room was very clean and well kept. Beds were nice and comfy too! Greatly enjoyed our trip and stay.
The room was clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was tasty. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay here again if in the area. My only complaint would be the pillows, could have been a little softer.
One of the best motels we've stayed in in the last five years. We travel over 4,000 miles a year by automobile and stay in motels that are pet friendly. It would be hard to find a more welcoming and well maintained motel anywhere. This was our first time here but will make this a regular stop for us when passing through Des Moines.
Large, clean and comfortable rooms with a modern, contemporary decor. Very clean, well kept and quiet. Convenient location in a office center development, easy access to I-80. Standard BW breakfast in a pleasant homey dining area.
I found the hotel to be very clean and comfortable. I was very excited to find a tall glass drinking glass as opposed to the usual tiny plastic cups to have water in. The bed was very comfortable and pillows were great. I'm a taller person and really appreciated the tall shower head and great water pressure. I was surprised at breakfast to find eggs in a perfect circle shape along with the bacon the same way. Kinda of strange. If I'm passing through Des Moines again, I would look to stay at this hotel again.
A pleasant "Plus" experience in the spacious suite with updated and tasteful decor. This hotel goes out of its way to provide nice silverwares for breakfast. Hotel is clean inside out. Room sound proof could be improved.
I do like this hotel because it is easy access on and off the highway and it is near gas stations and restaurants. The problem is if you have a pet you are held captive in your room because you can not leave your pet unattended! AT ALL! We stay at other chain hotels and you are "allowed" at least a half hour of "freedom" outside of your room if you if have a pet. It is a shame that a few bad pets must have ruined this for everyone. My suggestion is to get the persons cell number and if their pet starts barking...call them! Truth be told we escaped to the Applebees! Because we KNOW our dog does not bark! She hears nothing! she is deaf!
We had a very large suite with 2 TV's. It was clean, with wood laminate flooring and new carpet. The bathroom was roomy with plenty of counter spaces. The breakfast was good, with both hot and cold items. The staff were efficient and helpful. Overall, we were pleased with the stay, and the room price was excellent.
We stayed at the Best Western Plus in Cedar Falls Iowa and when we spoke to the new GM and I told him we had a day planned in Des Moines after we checked out of that hotel and he told us if we needed lodging that the Best Western Plus in Clive was the place to stay! My friends and I loved the salt water pool and the breakfast and the lady at the front desk was amazing. She has been there a long time and I see why. After 2 great experiences I think I'm a Best Western Customer now.
Room was very clean but there was no microwave or chair in the room. Fire alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. and had been doing it for a week. It should have been fixed in that time period. The breakfast was fine.
As a Diamond Select member, I requested an elite upgrade. Was told hotel was booked full and no upgrade available. When I checked online, there were many rooms available, including several suites. When I questioned the desk clerk, he was very condescending and stated, 'my manger left a note that there was no upgrade available". The 5-7pm social hour, a nice feature in theory, featured mini meatballs. I arrived at 5:15 and there was 1 meatball left. I came back 20 minutes later, still no meatballs. At 6:15, still no meatballs. The desk clerk said there would be no more, "I put out 60 and they're all gone". 60 mini meatballs would be enough for 12 guests using a normal serving. If the hotel was truly completely booked, this is a ridiculously low amount. Overall, a VERY frustrating and disappointing stay. Have stayed at this property 20+ times, and even recommended it to some friends who stayed last month. Service has been going downhill over the last 2 years. It used to be one of my favorite places to stay. Sad. On a positive note, breakfast was good and beds were comfy.
This by far was one of the nicest Best Western Plus hotels that we have stayed in long time. The room had plenty space for a nice overnight stay with our cat. The hotel provided real plates glasses knives and forks to reduce the use of plastics and paper products which was a nice change to help the environment. On Wednesday they had beer wine and pizza for Social Hour. Thank you Best Western Clive Iowa for a good job.
Stayed here 3 nights. Really liked this place. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly, it's located close to major roads with close access to restaurants and shopping. A city green belt with bike and hiking trails is only a 15 minute walk away. You can hear a little highway noise, but thought it was relatively quiet overall. Breakfast was your pretty typical motel selection with some hot food. I eat oatmeal all the time and it was good with some nice toppings such as slivered almonds and dried cranberries. One really nice touch with this place is a Managers special Monday to Wednesday evenings when they have beer, wine and hot and cold snacks from 5 to 7. You can't beat the combination of quality and value this place offers.
General cleanliness and room amentities and staff were awesome. However I feel in the remodel they did not sound proof very well. Could here TV's, Conversations and more noise than what should be necessary. Any door that shut was really loud and you could hear showers running in adjoining rooms
Everything was great! The beds where a little to hard for myself and my grandpa but thats just our opinion. The front desk staff was very nice and attentive. Very beautiful location! Restaurants close by and rewards members parking!!
Very nice upgraded room at a reasonable price. Good location to food and gas. I have stayed here 2 times and will continue, due to good location and will continue because of location and price. ........
Located with numerous shopping/restaurants available. We stay here to visit our kids who go to Iowa State and Drake. Great easy access to express way to visit both campuses. Will continue to stay here throughout their college attendance.
Complimentary wine, beer, sodas, pizza, and chips served in the lobby for a few hours each evening. Very nice surprise. China and silverware provided for a very delicios complimentary breakfast. Waffle maker made it complete!
This is a very well run property. Staff is helpful, rooms are always clean and the breakfast offering is excellent. Happy hour Mon-Wed. is most appreciated with free wine, beer and pizza from 5 - 7pm.
When checking in at 2:50 we were told the room would be ready in 15 minutes. 30 minutes they finally had it ready. The hotel wasn't full do why not just give me another King? They finally did because they couldn't figure out the channel selection for the TV. It turned out that the guide was incorrect on the two listings in the room as well as the front desk. Poor breakfast selection, No attendant on site. Rooms average. This hotel falls at the bottom of the list of the many BW Plus I have stayed.
Our room was covered in ants! We were told to just keep killing them, there were too many to kill. The room had just been remodeled so there was no excuse. Front desk told us it was because it was summer! It was April!
We stayed at the Best Western a couple weeks ago when in town for a concert. The motel is right off the interstate and is very easy to get to. It is also convenient for going into downtown Des Moines. Upon arrival the front desk clerk was cheerful and professional. She asked if we wanted a room on the third floor or first floor. She told us about the "Happy Hour" and the times for breakfast. We found our room to be in perfect order and very clean. The hvac unit was straight forward easy to control. Same with the TV, which was nice sized. The fridge kept our beer cold. There was no waiting for hot water. Really liked the flooring. Wish more motels would go that route. Breakfast was overall good, although real eggs and bacon would be better. The breakfast area was clean and neat. IF back in town for another concert, we will definitely stay again.
The only reason not to rate 5 is: we requested a top floor room when making the reservation on Best Western.com and the person assigning rooms for the night ignored the request. Fortunately the hotel was not full and the night clerk could fix the problem but this shouldn't have happened in the first place. We were in room 304 and it had a door adjoining it to the next room so you could hear people talking and their tv. This wasn't an issue this time but could be. The hotel is convenient to the highway but there is no rooms not facing traffic so if road noise bothers you, don't stay here. Otherwise, the room was dark, quiet, comfortable beds, priced right and a convenient location. I would stay here again in a room without adjoining doors.
Pet friendly, too! Check in was awesome. Clerk was friendly, professional. Lobby clean and cookies available! Super nice clean room. Plenty of space, too. Extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast was pretty decent too, what made it even better and nicer, was it was served with real china places, glasses and real silverware, not plastic. Coffee cups were ceramic too in room! Such a nice touch! Would definitely stay again!
Nice facility and Helpful Staff. We stayed here twice approx. 1 week apart. Rooms were both nice. Actually, the second stay room was REALLY nice, (larger than standard) There is an odd and somewhat constricted entrance to the elevator and it is sometimes slow... but it will get there, be patient. Big plus was quiet A/C which helps block outside noise in Fan mode... This was a big plus as second stay was on a crowded night and noise blocking was important. Breakfast was pretty standard for B/W. Another plus was proximity to both a Cracker Barrel and a Mexican Restaurant named El Rodeo, (see review). Minor negative - No USA Today.
Attentive staff, ok breakfast, good pet hotel with outdoor grassy spaces to run. Pet rooms have no wall to wall carpet which is actually pretty nice. Convenient to freeways and very close to a really wonderful YMCA
Hotel staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The location was great with access to the Interstate, restaurants and gas. The rooms were clean and well maintained. A bonus was great chocolate chip cookies at the front desk. They also offered chili in the evening for guests which was nice.
I have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean and decent size. The front desk staff are always helpful. Breakfast is decent. There are several restaurants nearby.
Easy on and off the freeway en route to our destination! Comfortable bed, clean room, breakfast good with some hot selections. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We usually chose Best Western because the points earned each night add up to rewards such as a free night!
Very friendly staff, good location and very pet friendly. Breakfast helped make our early start quick and easy. Staff helped us find a very good restaurant for dinner. It is sometimes difficult to find pet friendly accommodations and this property is very welcoming.
Was very satisfied. Little things - like using real plates and glasses at breakfast was nice. Overall very comfortable, clean, friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling either for business or vacation.
We stayed here for one night in one of the one bedroom suites. The young man at the front desk was very helpful, bringing us extra towels and pillows. The hotel was clean, although older. Breakfast was satisfactory. I would stay here again.
Work is taking me to DM regularly. This is my first choice of places to stay. Clean rooms, friendly staff and nice selection of breakfast foods. Relaxing social hour daily. It is easy to get too and close to interstate.
Would give this an average hotel. Room was clean, it was quiet. We were in a suite which in most hotels consists of at least a partition if not a door. This is just a larger room with a couch and second tv. So if you decide to both watch some tv to relax & watch different channels you have competing sound. CC did not work. Had read about issues surrounding breakfast and unfortunately they were true. We got there about 10 minutes before it closed and there was no hot food left except dry egg patties and a couple of greasy bacon rounds. And 5 minutes before time to close the attendant was there and quickly closed everything down even the juices. There were still some people coming in. She saw people come in, did not acknowledge them and just threw things out and moved on. We travel a lot and would rate this worst breakfast. Bacon rounds? Never seen elsewhere and just greasy pressed bacon product. Everything else was eh? Felt like generic everything.
When you are greeted at the front desk like a family member coming home, you know you are in the right place. The staff throughout the hotel, even bumping into them in the elevators, had warm smiles and welcomes. I'm sorry to say that our 3 night stay kept us too busy to enjoy the Weds/Thurs 5-7:00 hospitality cocktails and appetizers but we never missed the afternoon warm cookies. Our room was cleaned every day and plenty of towels were provided. I had intended to swim every day, but visits with friends and attendance at the local Quilt Show kept our time at a premium. This hotel was excellent.
Excellent staff, clean comfortable room, bed was very comfortable, breakfast was good, nice presentation and high quality products. Easy accessible location from freeway but no traffic noise. Very good value and I would recommend to anyone traveling on either business or pleasure.
This is a nice Best Western. It had glass glasses in the rooms and regular (not disposable) dishes in the breakfast area. The breakfast was set out nicely. The hotel is conveniently located in a nice neighborhood.
This was a very good stay at this hotel. Price was excellent and the staff very accommodating. Room was very clean and we enjoyed the fact that preferred parking available for rewards members. A nice touch. Great location in the area and easy on/off the interstate. Would stay there again
Smaller facility, clean rooms, polite staff, comfortable bed, and decent free breakfast. Perfect for a quick business trip. Location is right off the highway and near a couple restaurants you could walk to.
This is the third time at this hotel. good location, average breakfast, clean, and reasonably priced. good hot tub and pool. will stay again. has social hours on Monday thru Wed. close to several restaurants. quiet
The staff member (don't have his name) cat check-jn was very professionaL, RECOGNIZED MY staus of Platinum and upgradewd us to a suite, which was very ni e. It was large, had two TV's (not that mattered a lot). The foom was very quiet, the bed was large and comortable. We slept well. Overall the property stood up to its brand, Best Western Plus) and could very well be upgraed to BW'S ELITE CLASS. We had large glasses available instead of those small annoying plastic glasses usually offered. At the breakfast, they had real glass plates, cups, real silverware. The whole place was really nice. I would always go back to that property. I only wish BW had more like it.
The checkin rep was very uncaring, unhelpful and lackadaisical providing service. Complained that he only worked on Mondays and hadn't been trained in the basic functions of the hotel, like the proper working of the TV/remote. Was changing my room but did not have the heat turned on in the second room. Would not allow a channel to be changed in the lounge! Would not allow my motorcycle to park under the overhang out of the rain.
This place had great reviews and they are right. A great stay: comfortable, secure and nicely appointed. Great price as well. No need to look any further if you;re planning to stay in this area. No complaints whatsoever.
The location of this hotel made a convenient overnight stopping place for our trip to Minneapolis, and it was a easy trip the next day to travel onto Minneapolis. From the off-route location of this hotel is was quite easy for us to return to our northern travel route the next morning on I-35.
The room was very nice. We had 2 queen rooms, a table with 2 chairs, 2 luggage racks and plenty of space to put your other stuff. The bathroom was a little small but the shower was fine. The breakfast was not up to par. The eggs and bacon (very thin rounds) would make a poor copy of an Egg MacMuffin. By themselves they were poor at best. There was no real butter and the fruit was canned. They did have waffles and whole apples and oranges. I was there at 6:30 and they ran out of coffee. The others in my party came down at 8:30 and they were out of coffee, oatmeal, and eggs.
Nice setting and decor. Quiet area. Only complaint is the breakfast. Not enough seating area, out of coffee and oatmeal. Canned fruit. Orange juice is good. Eggs and biscuits not hot. Internet access is good, bedding comfortable.
Traveled quite a distance to get to area for an expo in the area so we were quite pleased that the staff was friendly, and very accommodating. The rooms were very clean, so for a one week stay it was very pleasant and comfortable. The staff was quite accommodating for my mother and I and my employees. If we come again for this expo we will definitely stay here again! Mahalo!
My stay, at Best Western Inn & Suites in Clive, IA, was outstanding. Accomodations were clean, comfortable and attractive, as well as generous (was upgraded to suite from standard since I am Platinum member). Great value in cost also. Will definitely stay here again.
Overall good experience. Front desk staff very pleasant and efficient. Room was clean, beds were great and it was VERY quiet. Expandable arm mirror was a nice touch. There was no WiFi while we were there and the chairs at the table were hard, not too comfy. Didn't take time for breakfast in the AM, but area was very small.
Had fresh cookies upon arrival and coffee available. Came back Saturday afternoon after shopping and our room had not been serviced. Breakfast items were not kept up as well as on previous visits. One gal in the breakfast area looked very disheveled. The second morning their was a fight between some of the co-workers right in front of us as we were eating breakfast! One gal was using profanity and went storming out. No guests should have to hear that, and it didn't seem as though anyone was doing anything about it! There was a guy sitting behind the desk and didn't move or offer an apology. The gal behind the desk only apologized after I told her it was ridiculous what we just witnessed. We have really enjoyed this Best Western in the past, but they need to improve some things or we will go elsewhere. Towels were small and scratchy. Did sleep well. Also took the guy 20 minutes to do our bill when I gave him gift cards we had.
Good Service and a Friendly staff. Offered a Good Breakfast with glassware as the dinning utensils. The Hotel was clean and it had a good atmosphere. It also has an easy access to HWY 35. Plus there was a QT gas station and a Cracker Barrel restaurant within two blocks. We will be staying there when we return.
NOT A BABY/TODDLER FRIENDLY HOTEL!!! They did not have a crib or high chair. We stayed at several Best Western Hotels on our trip and this was the only one that couldnt accomadate our 2 year old. We thought that all BW have similar standard but we were wrong.
Room is excellent other than they need to discover fabric softener for towels. Stiff like cardboard. Lighting over vanity so low can hardly see face closely to shave. Imagine women have fits trying to put makeup on. Better program listing on TV channel guide. Makes no sense. You half to hit every channel to see where you are. Breakfast good. But do not allow to take to room. Need paper plates. Workout room Ok, But no proper air ventilation. Very hot. One elevator in hotel. With 3 stories often times full, along with housekeeping using it as well. Good luck. Use the stairs.
I would stay here again in a heart beat. The hotel was very easy to get to and very quiet. We did not have breakfast here but it looked good. good place to stay. The staff was very helpful and ready to answer any questions.
Very clean and well furnished room. The staff was very professional and courteous. One of the best hotel stays I've experienced in the past year. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.
The entire staff were very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The room was outstanding and the bed was awesome. It also had a jazzes tub which my husband totally enjoyed.
Very nicely decorated, modern but tasteful colors, actual real wood floors in elevators, lobby, and entire 1st floor rooms (for pets). Breakfast not fantastic, but quite adequate. Kathy at front desk just the best! Kids running in halls late, but what are you gonna do? Hot tub a little weak on jets, but overall my wife and I were quite impressed and pleased and will make this our "go to" in Des Moines! Clean, friendly, everything worked, and unusually large rooms - almost suite-size w/ hide-a-bed in sitting area. Highly recommend!
The room was clean and beautiful. The bathroom was large and well lit, and there were mirrors you could get close to. The big negative, for us, was that the air conditioning unit kept waking us as it cycled on and off, and setting it to "FAN ON" didn't solve the problem.
Clean, handy to freeways, quiet. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Nice pool, adequate workout room. Included wifi. We only spent one night here but found it to be a decent value. Paid $139 for 3 adults including taxes. Was on ground floor but had a stomper overhead. Laminate floors contribute to noise transmission, but rude folks always prevail.
Nice hotel. Great location and friendly staff. Great internet. I was connected all day while I worked and didn't experience any issues. Breakfast was included which was a plus and the social hour during the evening was appreciated after a long day. Nice size rooms
A nice motel, clean and comfortable rooms. Our biggest gripe was there were no 1st floor rooms and the sole elevator was painfully slow, and always in use as the motel was packed. We wound up using the stairs which our ancient dog did not appreciate. Good dog walking area. Free wine at happy hour which hit the spot. We recommend this motel.
Pet Friendly and the pet friendly room was very nice and good size. Managers Happy Hour was a nice surprise and we took part in that. The morning breakfast was very satisfying and well presented. The hotel was situated just off of I-80/I-35 in Clive, Iowa and worked out very well for our traveling. I would highly recommend this property to any family traveling.
Nice looking hotel, with people who wish to please, but the arrangement of guest room amenities and the breakfast area set up are not at all efficient and are actually downright awkward and confusing.
We've stayed here several times and each visit is a treat. The upgrade was a pleasant surprise and the room was spacious, beds comfortable, with breakfast the next morning top notch. The room had two TV's--the one in the living room area had garbled sound quality, which made use of that room difficult. The staff person was delightful over the phone when making the reservation and in person when we checked in. Looking forward to our next stay.
We were there for 2 days and had a wonderful time. Internet was in & out a couple of times. Offered a social hour mid-week, which was very much appreciated - snacks, beverages, etc. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Stayed at this Best Western heading east on vacation. The motel is a little tucked away near the freeway and can be challenging to find the parking lot. It is in a location that seemed very safe and secure. There were no problems with check-in Positive: -Staff seemed very pleasant and willing to help. -Rooms had hard flooring which made the rooms clean. -Large whirlpool tub. -Air conditioning worked well. -Breakfast was standard but area was clean and well maintained. -Wifi was strong enough to stream Netflix. Negative: -Walls are a bit thin. Loud noise from conversations could be heard past midnight. Prices in most of Des Moines seemed very expensive and while this is still pricey for a Best Western, it did seem like a step up from standard. If I'm in the area I would have no problem staying here again.
Location perfect for us and entire stay was nice. Free room upgrade was a pleasant surprise at check-in. Breakfast and pool area were clean. Only negative was the staff's odd lack of interest in assisting us in getting booked into another BW hotel further along on our trip.
Room was clean. Sink needed thorough cleaning. The breakfast needs to be fixed. Bacon rounds were burnt & greasy. Eggs not tasty. Stayed at Best Western's many times but this one may change my mind about staying again. Steering clear of them for awhile.
I stayed here two nights over a weekend and had a pleasant experience. Great location with a two places to eat within walking distance. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Nice size television in the room! My only issue with this hotel was the business center is a table next to the front door in the lobby and there are no laundry services available.
I stay at this Best Western several times a year, when I am visiting Des Moines. The staff id very friendly and very accommodating. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. If there is a problem during your stay it is corrected immediately. I use this motel as a barometer for the others that I stay at. If you are searching for a place to stay which is dependable consistent and very customer oriented this is the place!!
we had a pleasant one night stay. Just passing thru on way home from fishing. Room was adequate, ac was a little noisy. Breakfast has many choices and not bad tasting. Love the waffles. Front desk manager was very friendly and helpful
very nice hotel. Lovely rooms, very comfortable beds, easy on-and off-highway access. Had happy hour, which was very enjoyable. They provide actual crockery on which to eat your breakfast/happy hour instead of cheap plastic/paper which was a pleasant discovery. Very nice place
Rudest night check in lady. We were interrupting her TV show, and she tried to run our credit card for double the room rate for a "deposit". She finally ran the card for the correct amount and told us if we smoked in the room, she'd hunt us down. Broken elevator with my wife and daughter stuck inside for 5 minutes. Absolutely the worst hotel stay in 25+ years. Cannot stress enough...do not stay here!
We were a family of four driving from the east coast to Wyoming. Being light sleepers, our main concerns are cleanliness, and quiet and dark for sleeping. I was impressed with this Best Western. No carpet - hardwood floors and real wood doors. Fancy folded towels and washcloths greeted us. Neatly laid-out cups and glasses - real cups and glasses, not plastic. Separate sink from shower/toilet area. Real dishes at breakfast, not plastic and foam. Quiet, and comfy beds. Enjoyed our stay and did not want to get up in the morning! Whoever makes up the rooms really takes care to make it neat and welcoming.
This motel has a policy of double charging your credit card for your stay plus a $100 deposit for possible damages. The breakfast was great and the room comfortable, but their charging practice is obscene and they don't tell you what they are doing.
We thought the hotel in general, and our room, were very clean, neat and updated. Breakfast was ok and service was good. The price competitive for the area. (All Des Moines is kind of expensive). The hotel is nicely located so easy on/off either 35 or 80. Right by The Cracker Barrel.
Nice hotel for a group stay. Good breakfast in the morning. The hotel was clean and staff was friendly. Good our luggage to our rooms in a timely manner. I had a king room. Room had flat screen television. The most interesting thing was the "cube" outlet on the night stand. Could plug in many things!
The hotel was well located, room and bedding were clean, rate was average for this chain and location. Lots of restaurants close by. Breakfast was OK. The public areas were well taken care of, but there were some housekeeping/maintenance issues that needed some attention; the toilet seat was wobbly, there were cracked tiles in the bathroom, the door frames in the bathroom were painted metal and were rusty and chipped on the bottom. Nothing to keep me from staying here again, but issues I would expect housekeeping to report.
The hotel staff, especially Jessica, was extremely professional and seemed happy that you choose their hotel to stay in. I use the phrase, their hotel, as that is how they made you feel, almost as if you were a guest in their own home. The room was very clean and comfortable, as well as the reception area and outside grounds. In short I was very pleased with my stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.
Closer to other amenities and easy to get on and off of interstate. Had hot breakfast, great if on the run. Front desk staff was friendly, very helpful. Did hear doors from time to time in night, but think family was split between 3 rooms surrounding my own.
Had issues with the check out process. Confirmed a 4 pm check out for additional $40 charge. Hotel staff came by room twice between 12 and 2 pm to see if we were leaving. First time they knocked, second time they didn't and came in at a very inappropriate adult time, it was embarrassing. Room was very nice but no hot water from 8 am to about noon either day we stayed. Also, when I got my statement they charged me $150 for that 4 pm checkout instead of $40 per their website policy. Not happy! Waiting on management to contact me back.
Bathroom needs updating badly to stay current with the competitors. Noisy at 2AM in the hallways and staff did not deal with it. This is not your normal Best Western Plus location and it's too bad because of the great location near restaurants and highways. Right next door is a newer Hampton and it was packed.
Just to be fair I will start with what I did like about this hotel. Clean, safe neighborhood, and friendly staff, all the things that you want in a hotel. Off to a great start I'd say right?? Well..... You can be the judge of that. A month ahead we reserved a block of rooms 8 to be exact, this reservation was good until May 11th right, well that's what we were expecting, but no not the case. There are a couple of slackers out there so last minute happens with us a lot. So May 11 rolls around and they want to make their reservations made call in and what do you mean that expired at midnight today is May 11 so we should have until 11:59 pm to make the reservation, right? Nope first problem, no big deal use the right words and fixed it. Reservation made and all is good again. The big day comes so excited!! We finally arrive and start the check in process all is good there too. We get into our room and yes it is clean, thank you Tiffany you did a great job. That being said normally when you stay multiple nights and they come clean your room they NORMALLY take the trash right?!? Umm no they made the bed that's all. All the trash still there. Our friends had a dog along which it okay by hotel policy but you can't leave them in the room alone ($100 fine) you can't take the dog with you to get breakfast and you can not take the dishes back to your room. All things they will tell you but do not offer a solution for a problem. All in all a good hotel just confusing rules.
Very nice place. We were on our way to Kansas City and decided to break up the drive. The hotel is located in a very nice area. A number of restarants near by. We went for a walk, was a clean, safe area. We would return again if in this area.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but there was a lot of road noise from the freeway. In the morning we had no hot water at all. The front desk person told us they were having problems with their circulation system and compensated us for the inconvenience. The breakfast was minimal.
We had a group of 27 that overnighted at this hotel on a Friday night. Very accommodating. Staff promptly delivered luggage to our rooms. Rooms well appointed. Bed was in good condition, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker in the room. Flat screen television. I really liked the "Cube Shaped" outlet on the nightstand where you could plug in 4 items at one time. Breakfast was good on Saturday morning.
A very nice surprise to find a very newly decorated, clean spacious room. The room felt like the hotel was brand new. The lobby area and pool area also was comfortable and update. Did not use or see other parts of the hotel. But what we saw was well taken care of and updated. Breakfast was on the high end of typical free breakfast. It was a nice surprise during our cross country trip. I only hope we get this lucky again.
Clean rooms, nice decor and the staff was nice! In a very clean part of town. I would stay here again. We wished we could stay more than one night. The breakfast was pretty good too. Cozy room with a fridge and microwave.
We enjoyed our overnight stay here. The suite was exceptional; I especially liked the sitting area with a comfortable couch and extra TV. The breakfast was good and between 5-7 (Mon-Wed) the manager's reception served complimentary snacks, pizza and beverages; a very nice touch. Everyone on the staff was friendly. Easy access off the freeway and several restaurants nearby. Also close to good walking trails.
Top notch in every way--bed was comfortable--snacks and drinks from 5-7 was a great idea--breakfast was very good. Price was in line with other motels. The room was clean and neat and the staff was helpful. We would stay here again.
The room was very large, very clean, and very quite. The bed was extremely comfortable. The suite had two TVs. The water pressure and temperature in the shower was great. If in the area again, we would stay there.
We have stayed at over 17 different BW properties over the past couple of months, because of our schedule, and we truly have to say, this is by far one of the classiest BW properties that we have stayed at. The rooms are immaculate and the breakfast, as well as your rooms, you have real glasses and real coffee mugs, not paper. The plates are stylishness and enhance your experience. We did have a small minor issue with our refrigerator, and the night manager, Barb, came down and replaced it immediately. The evening person, Phil, was very awesome and informative. We have had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Artur Golebiewski, he very proud of his hotel and made sure our stay was up to the very high standards he has implemented at his hotel. We highly recommend this beautiful BW property and look forward to a return visit when we are in the area again.
Great hotel. Had no issues and everything was as expected or better. Full breakfast was typical. All around good hotel. Check in and check out went smoothly. In a good area with a short drive to many places to eat. Will definitely stay at again when in Des Moines.
Convenient location just of I-80. Staff was very nice. Pool open 10-10p. newer or remodeled hotel. in very good shape. stayed in large suite, very good size. kitchenette. rooms were very clean and staff friendly. breakfast typical.
We were on travel with a new pup that we had just picked up and had been on the road for several days. The amenities for having a pet and staying in a hotel were excellent, the staff was polite and helpful and highly recommend for your travel plans.
This hotel is affordable, clean, smells good, free cookies, great pool, great workout room, very friendly staff, comfy beds, free wifi. What more could I ask for?! I am a picky person and I believe I picked the best place to stay at the best price in Clive!
Friendly comfortable environment for business and pleasure. Clean. Full breakfast. Rooms are up to date and a nice size. Safe area for walking. Close to shopping and dining. Great price for the great services.
In town for nearby business. This hotel was convenient, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and well maintained. The breakfast was good as well The only minuses, the bathroom lighting was kind of dark, and we ran out of hot water twice, though we did get a discount because of this. Several good places to eat nearby.
Very nice. comfortable bed. Very clean room. Breakfast had a lot of good options and food was good. Nice location just off freeway. Friendly staff. Accomodations for pet and liked the laminate flooring in the hotel room.
This is a really new hotel and is very comfortable and convenient to the highway and the city. The breakfast room was great and the beds and room was perfect for a good night's sleep. We were close to several restaurants and even though we were close to the highway, the room on the 2nd floor was quiet.
The hotel was very clean and appeared upscale without the price. Good location for restaurants & shopping and easy to get to. Breakfast area had many choices and was delicious! Kids enjoyed the swimming pool. The front desk was helpful and informative upon check-in.
Would not return to this Best Western. Usually friendly service, I believe in efficient check in but I felt too rushed with no one else in line, staff was not your typical friendly staff. Seemed uncomfortable possibly because I am a minority, but not sure. Breakfast meat was cold. Location was OK, rooms were stuffy but clean. Front desk at least the lady that checked me in needs some training on customer service.
This place is really nice. It has a nice modern feel to it. The rooms are really nice and the beds are comfortable. One thing I really like is there is actual dishes and silverware for the breakfast. None of that throw-away stuff. Overall, this place is really nice and it's in a really nice spot. The price is also really nice.
I needed to stay overnight in the Des Moines area but had no idea which hotel I wanted. I knew I wanted one close to I-80, so I just started searching and found this Best Western. No one answered the phone when I called, but it was easy to make a reservation on-line. Turns out I lucked into a great place to stay. The clerk was so nice when we checked in that night, and directed us to a spacious, clean, attractive suite. When we later went out for dinner I told him how much we liked the room and he said he had upgraded our room! I don't know why but it was wonderful! The hotel was quiet, smelled nice, and offered lots of hot or cold breakfast food. Plus the beds and pillows were very comfortable. I will choose this hotel now every time I have business in Des Moines.
The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The real surprise was that there were REAL DISHES at breakfast and in the rooms. And real silverware! None of the plastic and paper stuff. And the breakfast was good, too. They also had snacks, beer, and wine in the evening. The staff was really friendly.
It's clean, convenient, and reasonably priced. For me, Best Western is a reliable standby when traveling. If you are passing through the Des Moines areas, this is located close to the expressway and is an easy stop for a good night's rest.
The customer service was great! They offered a social hour in which the front desk agent kept stocked at all times. The Double Queen room in which I stayed was very nice - hardwood floors, no scratches. Not a plastic cup in sight - all glass - for water and coffee. I definitely recommend this property.
Friendly staff, family friendly, pet friendly, great breakfast, super location easy to get around town. I stayed here with my family and we enjoyed the pool and the hot tub as well as the breakfast the next morning!
The hotel is a great value and offers a warm comfortable environment. The staff is helpful and friendly. The small workout area gives you what you need for some exercise and there is a pool available as well although I did not use the pool. Breakfast was good and a pizza and wine bar was available after work. How great is that! Oh- The cookies are great too.
We stayed one night on a quick trip to Des Moines. Overall we had a very good stay and an excellent price. Check in was really quick and our room was ready a bit early. The lobby area, breakfast area and pool area are all immediately noticed when checking in. All were well maintained. A nice sitting area with TV and faux fireplace was available. Our room was in good condition. It appears there was a move to earth tones so the room was a bit dark, however there were plenty of lamps and plug ins. Also, the furniture was more of a blonde finish which lightened things up. The comments in other reviews about the bathroom being dark are spot on. It was clean and large but the bathroom walls were a dark purple. On Mondays-Wednesdays management offers a 5-7pm greeting in the lobby. Some pop, wine, beer and various snacky things. Not fancy but a nice touch. The room was large with a sofa sitting area, fridge and microwave. The only noise I noticed was some freeway noise but manageable. Breakfast was typical with cereals, yogurt, pastries, waffles, etc. The one very surprising thing to us that breakfast was served on real plates and with real silverware, a nice touch. Our room, 314 was directly off the elevator and right by the ice machine. There was absolutely no noise and it was really convenient. King size bed was comfortable. Our checkout folio was in my e-mail in the morning. This hotel is just off the interstate at University Ave. If you are going into Des Moines and out to the Jordan Creek shopping/dining area this a great location in between. I felt we had a very nice room and an excellent price..
Great hot breakfast options! Our only disappointment is regarding crib availability. We booked our reservations online, I verified that the amenities included a crib. After booking the reservation, I called to request a crib and was told they did not have any. This was the primary reason we chose to stay at the hotel. We very much enjoyed the stay but the website was inaccurate in stating they offered cribs as an amenity, this is an important feature to families with young children.
The rooms are nice. The bathroom in our room was dark and hard to see in the mirror. We had a Jacuzzi in our room which was nice. They are very accommodating for pets. The breakfast would be better if the food was a bit warmer, not a fan of cold eggs. They had a light supper on which was very good.
we had a wonderful stay at this hotel. great room at a great price. we had our small dog with us and they put us near an exit without us having to ask. the staff was very friendly. it was a quick overnight, so no time to enjoy the pool or fitness center.
Blood stain and body fluid in bedding. It seems that bedding was not changed from previous occupant. Previously stayed in this location without any problems. Requested reassignment of another room due to the lack of housekeeping personnel. The second room had a problem with the TV set. The front desk attendant was not of much help.
I have stayed in several hotels in the West Des Moines area while visiting my parents and this is the best hotel by far I have stayed in. Rooms were very clean, the hotel has an indoor pool & hot tub. They offer a free light breakfast which includes yogurt, waffles, fruit and juice. The hotel is located right off University Drive, so it is close to Jordan Creek Mall and several dining options such as Rock Bottom which is less than a mile away. You could also walk to the Cracker Barrel and a Mexican restaurant if you like. I will stay there again when I am back in town.
The Clive Best Western was conveniently located for a family visit. The rooms were clean and tastefully decorated. The laminate floor was a good choice for a dog friendly room...wish I would have brought a dog bed. Good breakfast choices plus a pool and fitness center which we did not use.
Beware!! We found out after the first night that our lock to our room wasn't working. No key required! They were busy at the front desk so we had to use our deadbolt while we were sleeping. Went down the next am and Kathy says "oh yes, that happens sometimes to the rooms". They clearly know there is an issue with their room locks but aren't bothering to fix it. Beware of you plan on staying here!!
This is the cleanest and most accommodating pet friendly hotel in which we've stayed. It's our go-to hotel on trips to visit family and friends. We've always gotten a first floor room convenient to the pet walking area. Some of the pet rooms have smooth surface flooring, which is a great idea for dog rooms and seems much cleaner than carpet. Restaurants are just a short walk across the parking lot, a feature we greatly appreciate after a long day in the car. Staff is friendly and helpful and is always eager to visit with our therapy dog.
location is convenient for visiting family. on this trip we also included our son and his family and found the facility answered all of our needs. staff is pleasant and always there to help you. breakfast has enough food to satisfy everyone.
We had reservations for almost a month but when we went to check in, the desk clerk informed us that cats are not allowed in the rooms. I had mentioned in my reservation that we had a dog and a cat (misspelled coat). Unfortunately, we had to cancel and look for another place to stay. Fortunately, LA Quinta was next door and welcomed us...including our cat. I wish the hotel had specified on their website that cats need not apply.
This hotel suffers from being next to a freeway. We were very kindly upgraded to a suite but the room suffered from light pollution as none of the doors fitted properly! The breakfast offered was the poorest we encountered on our road trip. The location was Ok for restaurants etc but was some way from Des Moines town. The best relatively local sight was Salisbury House which would be well worth a visit.
I was here unexpectedly due to car repair issues. The staff was absolutely friendly, helpful and just helped make a not-so-great situation a little better. I was concerned about noise issues with the interstate nearby, but never heard a sound. Upon check-on, the desk clerk (so sorry I can't remember your name!) proactively asked if I wanted a room not on the first floor (just for added safety as female traveling alone). I thought that was a nice thing for him to mention as I didn't really even consider that (not that there was any concern in this area). I appreciated that! He also provided an upgrade to a suite with couch/refridge/micro since I was a Gold Crown member (or maybe he just felt bad for me after I told him my car ordeal!).They have a generous happy hour (two hours!) in the evening with wine and soda (maybe beer?) and snacks too. One night there was a huge crockpot of meatballs and the next night, some hot pizzas on a warmer - plus pretzels, snack mix, cookies, etc.The hotel is in great condition and they were putting in hardwood floors in the first floor rooms - very pretty from what I could see when walking by them working on them during the day! Every time I walked in or left the hotel, I was greeted with a smile and a hello/goodbye. The housekeeping staff (Lori and others), were very nice and wrote me a note saying "welcome back" after I checked-out and then had to re-check back in later in the day - nice touch!! The owner is an active participant in the daily operations and I saw him showing an employee how to do something at the desk. He was smiley, friendly, and you could just see he has a good relationship with all his staff. The area (Clive) is great - lots of restaurants/shops close by. I will ABSOLUTELY stay here again the next time we pass through Iowa! THANK YOU EVERYONE!
The service and room overall was solid. I enjoyed the Manager's Reception from 5-6pm with its snacks, pizza and beverages and the breakfast - all served with real plates and flatware not paper, styrofoam or plastic. A nice touch. An overall good value and location. The one recessed light above the sink in the bath was missed since even with it the room might be a little dim. That and I'd suggest that they make all of the light bulbs of the same color so as to avoid the whites with the off whites. Small things but God is in the details. Recommended.
It's not great, but it's worth the price, clean, and just off of the loop around Des Moines, Iowa. I'd stay there again if under the same circumstances and visiting the area. It's just off of University Ave, outside of I-35.
The lady that checked us in was very polite and friendly. The fresh cookies were good. The room was clean. The bed was not comfortable. It was very noisy on Saturday night with doors slamming, showers running and footsteps above our room. No noise on Sunday night. They did upgrade us for free so that was a nice surprise when we checked in.
I stayed at Best Western in Clive and would say that my overall stay was good. I liked that had social hour and offered complimentary food and drink. The room was clean, the bed was a little too firm for my preference and the couch had a stain or two on it. Breakfast was average and a nice benefit. Overall, I would say I was satisfied with my stay and feel that I got my money's worth.
A very clean and quiet facility. Evening reception was excellent but breakfast was cold and not replenished properly. They did have "grab and go" breakfasts available. If breakfast had been fresh and hot they would have earned 5 stars. The parking lot is well lite but small in the front of the building.
Very clean and dependable place to stay. Staff is very courteous and caring. You are appreciated as a customer! The location is easy to reach and parking is not problem even if you have a trailer behind you vehicle. Would strongly recommend this facility
We stayed on a friday night so we missed the complimentary social hour which is not offered on friday, saturday or sunday. The room was very clean and comfortable. The check in and check out was fast and efficient. The people were very nice and helpful. Refrigerator and microwave in the room. Flat screen tv with lots of stations. The entire place was modern and clean and included breakfast. The breakfast was very good with all of the typical stuff. Eggs, sausage, cereals, make your own waffles etc. nothing extrodinary, but also kept clean and full the whole time we were there. Paid $110 for the night which is about average for the area. It's right next to the interstate, so a good place to stop for the night if your just passing through.
We were passing through for just one night - all we required was a clean room and bathroom and a comfortable bed. All those needs were met - everyone from the check-in clerk to the check-out personnel were friendly and helpful - can't ask for more than that. Would certainly stay here again if we are fortunate enough to return to the area.
We arrived just before the 5-7 p.m. complimentary drinks and snack service. China plates, fine wine self-served in glass stemware, and hot meatballs as one of the snacks. We swam in the large indoor pool, just off the lobby. Morning breakfast was the best we've had in a motel: home-made oatmeal, with several toppings available; other high-quality hot dishes, yogurt and fruit. The room was large, clean and comfortable.
