What would you expect for a hotel in the middle of France? Exactly what Best Western Hotel Colbert offerred. Sitting very quietly in the middle of town, this hotel gives you the feels of a quaint French Town, bringing you back to the 30 and 40s. The rooms were ok, with a modern vibe. Its location is close to the supermarket and the train station. What stood out for me was the breakfast. The fresh orange juice kept me going back. All in all, I wish my stay was longer than just an overnight.
We really enjoyed our stay (5 nights). The staff was very friendly (and patient with us as we don't speak French and my comprehension is limited); and the room was clean and comfortable - also a nice size. Close to train station, which was great for walking when we didn't have the rental car; and when we did have the car, the secure parking lot was perfect. We were able to walk one morning to Carrefour to stock up on drinks for our mini fridge since we were staying so long. If we visit the area again, we will definitely stay here again without hesitation. Food was great for dinner and breakfast in our room. Even my French cousins who met us in the lobby (and had coffee while waiting), commented on how nice they thought it was.
The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Chateauroux on foot. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and had all the amenities we could wish for eg: tea and coffee making facilities, air conditioning, fridge, safe and secure car parking. Like all cities Chateauroux is having to try and recover from the lock down from COVID 19.
Good location, nice staff. Easy secure parking. Comfy bed. Communal areas a little tired. Room was clean and good size. Wifi was slow. Air con was intermittent and noisy extraction facilities at rear.
This hotel is very close to the downtown area near the train station and the main church. If you're visiting the US Museum next to the train station, this is a great hotel for that. The hotel has private parking and a very nice restaurant. Rooms are clean and very nice. I highly recommend!
We visited this hotel in July post-COVID. The hotel was very good with nearby protected parking for guests (accessed by security code). The rooms was clean and very modern and just what we needed for our one-night stay. The meal we had in the restaurant was excellent (face coverings/masks must be worn in the restaurant until seated). The hotel is about 5/10 mins easy walk into town and just a short walk from the impressive church. I would recommend this hotel.
Good value for money. Comfortable rooms. Bathroom renovation is recommended. English spoken staff. WiFi works good. Breakfast is poor. Room service not recommended. Convenient location. Parking is convenient.
This was a carefully chosen overnight stop en-route to and from Spain based on other guests reports. Everything about our stay was excellent and breakfast was the best we have ever experienced in France. Parking is in a secure car park directly across the small side road at a small cost. The building is a converted (2006) old tobacco factory and regional government offices adjacent to the hotel. We had a good value local steak (€22) on the way down and veal medallions (€18) in whiskey on the return. A good choice of reasonably priced wines on offer but beer at €7,90 for a half litre was overpriced! On the Saturday morning the owner was present at breakfast and showed a real interest in his guests. This will definitely be a regular venue on journeys to Spain.
I'm staying one night at this hotel. I have been to Best western before as they offer a good standard and can usually be relied upon to deliver. This one is something else though. The room is spotless and very comfortable. But the restaurant is just brilliant. It's an open plan restaurant where you watch the chef at work with his team. You get to see the food being prepared and the staff get to see you enjoy it. It's a fabulous idea. I had the most gorgeous seafood salad to start which was so good I cleaned my plate. Followed by a burger. But what a burger, real beef freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. Even the chips where perfect. Overall this is a real jem of a hotel and one I would highly recommend.
Located in a huge former tobacco warehouse, the hotel looks a little austere from the outside, but in reality the public areas are welcoming and our bedroom was extremely comfortable, clean and well equipped - the staff friendly and highly professional - parking available in a security fenced compound opposite the reception area. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was good value for money. We enjoyed a quiet beer on the 'terrace' located in the old tobacco factory's quadrangle - see photo. A good overnight stop.
Travelling for business in the area I struggled to find hotels with facilities on-site. This one came to the rescue at the last minute and was a good all rounder. The rooms are decent with mini bar, bed is comfy in-site bar and restaurant are just what you need if alone and not wanting to venture out. The location is also reasonable too, within 10mins walk of local restaurants. If only it had a gym / pool!
Stayed here before and had no hesitation coming back. The quality of bed and overall service is outstanding. Breakfast is great as well. A bit more expensive than the usual travel hotel but worth every euro.
We stayed a night driving north. It is what you expect of a Best Western. We did not have dinner there but the menu looked good altho the restaurant looked soulless. Breakfast was great. The disappointment was that the bad was soft like a hammock. I mentioned this to the receptionist who gave every impression that she was going to do precisely nothing about it.
Two of us stayed one night on a motorcycle trip through France. It's a large hotel that appears to be part of a conversion of old industrial premises. Reception was friendly and helpful. Our room was of a good size and comfortable with all the usual amenities. Good wifi comes as part of the cost. Private parking is in an area on the opposite side of the road It is fenced but not secure. There is a good choice of dishes at breakfast. The woman in charge of breakfast was exceptionally helpful. Because we were tired and the hotel seemed to be away from the town centre, we chose to have supper there on the evening we arrived. The food was basic but good; the staff were helpful & friendly and speaking English was no problem. We had identified the hotel accurately on our GPS. It is close to the railway station but needs to be identified exactly on a map or GPS beforehand. Our Comfort Double Room cost 129.00 Euros and supper for two came to 79.90 Euros. There was no extra charge for parking. With taxes etc. the cost was 211.10 Euros.
The hotel does not have internet at all. It spoils absolutely all the arrivals here. All perfectly. good rooms, clean and quiet. But the Internet almost does not work. And it spoils the absolute impression. Addressed to the hotel staff on front desk, but they are not competent and can not even answer anything about this.
This is a decent hotel aligned to international standards. Staff is friendly, rooms are well equipped and clean. Close to the city center and the railway station. Very good, extensive breakfast in the morning.
As a stopping off point on the drive south this proved to be a good choice. The address given in the website is not a good GPS location. The staff were efficient, charming and helpful. Our room was perfectly adequate and was clean and well presented. The free car park was secure and close at hand. Dinner was rather better than we had expected, breakfast was comprehensive and good value for money. In summary this is a convenient inexpensive hotel well placed for those breaking the long journey south.
Very comfortable, in room and public areas. Friendly and helpful staff. Amazing breakfast - everything imaginable to eat and drink in beautiful surroundings. Secure parking immediately opposite. Just one slight criticism - waitress not very forthcoming, providing for an allergy to eggs. Quite difficult to obtain an egg free dessert - minor issue. Otherwise brilliant all round.
the older rooms have a better mattress. the minibar has only flat water. at the reception we where told we should find all kind of soft drinks. in the restaurant, not all waiters where friendly and efficient
We were at this hotel for a large group event. I can't say enough about the welcoming attention we received from all the staff, especially the hotel manager-a top notch group who made our visit very special. Rooms were small, but very clean, comfortable and quiet-it met all my requirements! Thanks for taking care of us!
We stay at Hotel Colbert when we travel to the South of France from either Saint-Malo or Cherbourg. We have always liked this hotel, very convenient and easy to reach from motorway. Rooms are modern, very pleasant, and very quiet. Being French we always found ladies at reception very pleasant and friendly. So accommodation good. However, during our 2 visits in July 2017, we have been very disappointed by the restaurant which used to be very good and very good value for money. Apparently the restaurant La Manufacture is not run by the hotel any more but by another entity. The result is that food either from the Ardoise menu or a la carte is extremely average and badly cooked, and very expensive for what you get. For instance, even the "piece du boucher" taken on 17/07/17 was not cooked as medium rare, and very thin. That piece of meat should be called "piece du boucher" at all. Breakfast on 10/07/17 was very good and really full of all kind of nice choices, but unfortunately, for unknown reason, breakfast on 18/07/17 was disappointing, because when we arrived in the breakfast room, half of the dishes like eggs, bacon and sausages were empty, there were no croissants anymore, and the cold meats and cheeses were half empty and very poor. Moreover there was no move at all to put more food on the buffet. It is because of the restaurant disappointment that we put "average". Next time we will definitely stay again at Hotel Colbert, but we will eat somewhere else, if nothing is improved in the restaurant. Also to finish this review € 10.00 for an open parking is expensive.
We stayed at this hotel on two separate nights during July and could not fault it. The rooms were clean and well proportioned. Room service and breakfast provided in the restaurant were very good. Both receptionists we dealt with spoke English well and were extremely helpful. Although the personnel gate to the hotel's car park was not locked there was a coded vehicle access and we felt our car was secure. The only fault I could find was the possibility of night time noise from the railway nearby but with the window closed together with the excellent shutters this was not a problem. We did not use the hotel's restaurant in the evening.
We stayed here after a bad experience elsewhere. We like Best Westerns because you can rely on a clean, comfortable stay. It was a nice, comfortable sleep. For the money, it is a nice place to stay. Great location.
Chaotic reception; just one person, and she was VERY stressed: -bad English understanding -very bad explanation about the hotel, how the room key works for example. (Old fashioned system) -noisy road and bar opposite the hotel, not sound proof rooms. (Very bad discussion about that with the reception in the morning; better to listen to clients instead of interrupting: it took a lot of pressure to get a slightly better room for the second night) -The parking is next to the hotel, but the fence door is not working (picture), so anybody can use the entrance, which is not safe. -Breakfast has no fresh boiled egg and jus de orange is from the automatic machine. -restaurant is TOO expensive; price quality is crazy. -mini bar.... that's really a laughter: 40gram of candy: when used 3 euro. (Free sample candy from Haribo) Bottle of Evian 4 euro.... come on!!!! SHAME "best Western"
Stayed a couple of nights here in a comfortable room with a little kitchenette area with fridge, sink and tea/coffee making facilities. The only thing lacking from the room is a microwave. The included breakfast is very good with lots of choice. Ate in the restaurant one evening, a superb meal, a bit pricey but very nice food. Nice grounds to sit in and secure parking for 7 euro per night. Free wifi. worked well.
Very comfortable centrally located hotel, run to an excellent standard with superb breakfast. Secure car parking opposite (7 euros per night), within easy walking distance of town centre, bars and resturants.
The hotel is in a quiet town of Chateauroux. Best place to stay. Quiet, clean and elegant. Near a convenient store Carrefour. The town resident cannot speak english thou, start learning french for you to order a beer
Hotel Colbert is a modern interior within a converted once huge tobacco cigarette manufacturing complex long since closed. The hotel offers tasteful rooms, private parking and a nice restaurant providing an included comprehensive breakfast and if you wish to stay in for evening dinners fine dining.we enjoyed our stay after a long drive from Zeebrugge on our way to Aquitaine. Staff were helpful and welcoming.
My wife lived with her parents in Citi Touvent, Chateauroux 1954-1957 for grades 7 through 9 in the American High School in La Martinerie. We returned for a walk down memory lane. The hotel was perfectly located for our purposes. It is also a mere 5 minute walk to the center of town. We found the hotel perfect in its appointments and the desk clerk Stephanie was absolutely fabulous in helping us with directions and with all our questions. We accomplished all that we had hoped for and more. Our stay was perfect. Thanks!
Pleasant staff and the food was excellent. Room overlooked quiet courtyard. Could benefit from more comfortable seats in reception which is also the bar area. Quality of coffee at breakfast could have been better, it came from a vending machine.
We stayed here for one night en route by motorcycle from Caen to the Dordogne. Hotel was easy to find on the edge of the town centre 5-10 minutes walk away past the large church. Secure parking for our bike was very re-assuring. Room was small but comfortable, clean and well equipped with view into the courtyard of the adjacent buildings. Breakfast was excellent with choice of cold and hot food. Croissants and Pain au Raisin in a basket in reception to help yourself on arrival was a welcoming touch. Would recommend highly
We stayed over for one night, nice quiet friendly clean hotel, helpful staff, the room was fairly basic but had tea making facilities which was a nice suprise, and breakfast was very good with a huge choice of food. Would recommend a visit if your passing through Chateauroux.
We booked into a duplex room. The room/ rooms are on 2 levels, it was reasonably cool on the lower level but upstairs in a small stuffy area the temperature was suffocating and unpleasant. We tried to lower the air conditioning from 22 to 16 ----- it kept defaulting back to 22. We asked at reception how to turn the air con down but were told it was the policy of Best Western to keep the air con at 22 ------ so, I, as a customer, have no say in the ambience of my room. Not impressed. These rooms are not cheap. We went to the bar and ordered pre-dinner drinks. There is a large drinks menu --- I ordered a Pina Colada cocktail ------------- after a while and watching five young waitresses and waiters discussing my order I was told that nobody knew how to mix a cocktail as they had not been on a course. The staff are all very young and yes, happy and very polite but with no training. The food was ok, (the chef completely muddled my meal which was returned twice) ------- just that, ok ----------------- this is NOT a 4 star hotel ----------- it is clean and modern and on the surface smart --------- but beware ------ it is not worth the money spent. On the plus side the room was quiet even though we were near the lifts, but bed quality was poor. Another plus was the receptionist spoke very good English and was very helpful. I would not return or recommend.
This is a business style hotel with clean pleasant, rooms and restaurant. We stayed here on route from Provence to Normandy to get the ferry back home. As it is some way from the centre of town you are basically stuck there. Fortunately the restaurant was very good , with decent reasonably priced food and a good breakfast the next day. The only fault was the lack of hot water on arrival. This was then compounded by the reception staff who admitted there was a fault with the water but had declined to inform us - we could only assume they did not want to advertise the fact
At 4 stars this place is definitely overrated! It remains nevertheless quite pleasant with a special note for the very friendly and efficient front desk. Have been upgraded one step above the basic level, but my room remained very small and ackwardly furnished with no space to reach one side of the bed and a bathroom needing some contorsionist qualities to be used! Still it was clean and correctly equipped. Very good breakfast. Quite ok for one night. The hotel is slightly out of the center but given the size of the town everything is reachable in 15 minutes.
i stayed there in April 2016. i have been gently upgraded to a duplex suite, probably because of my BW reward card. the suite was big and clean. service was perfect. breakfast was perfect as well, lots of choice. there is a big secured car park available just in front of the hotel.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel has a lovely restaurant, food very good. Room clean and comfortable. Only con was that our air-conditioning didn't work, hence room extremely hot. Had to open the window at 2.30 am. If you get a hot room, turn off the heating and open the window while you go to dinner. Other than that will definitely stay here again.
Pros: -very big room and fairly new -good choice for breakfast Cons: -one bed's bed linen very dirty with blood, luckily I was alone and could sleep in the clean one -reception people are NOT friendly at all
Great hotel. Converted former tobacco factory so large and well built - great for soundproofing so very quiet rooms. Modern, clean, large well equipped rooms and great lounge area and restaurant. Couldn't fault it. Great for a stop over on way back to Calais from South of France.
Fantastic family friendly hotel in Chateauroux - the perfect stop for us as we travelled from Calais down to Dordogne/Lot area of France. Booked a duplex room for family of four which had a very comfy double bed and sofa bed for the kids. Rate included kids for free which included a very generous continental breakfast. Secure parking was also available for €5 which was great for piece of mind. Staff were very friendly and helpful and great location being only a 5min walk from the town centre. Kids did complain a little that the sofa bed was a tad uncomfortable, but all slept soundly ready or travel the next day.
We split. A journey to the South of France, using D roads, stopping first at Chateauroux. Since the. Weather was 34C, and it forever in our open top c. Ar, we were well 'dehydrated' by the time we arrived, so did not see much of the city. The hotel has a secure fenced in car park opposite the main entrance across a narrow street, and no problems unloading the car. The welcome is warm, and the air con was cold. No so in the rooms. The air on just did not want you to be cooler than 22. The food is not really much to write home about. However, the Albacore Tuna was good, the chicken not so. Cheese as you expect in France OK, and who can screw up ice cream. The wine list is reasonable with good local selections. Breakfast was a bit grim for this standard of hotel. Not being on business , we breakfasted at 9, and no eggs, bacon, down to the last baguette. Plenty of croissants, muesli and yogurts for the healthy among us, but overall not a great impression, plus I think it was 14 euro each.
We stayed for two night whilst travelling north to Caen for the Channel Ferry. Never having visited Chateauroux previously we were somewhat disappointed by the surrounding areas - but recognise that comment as possibly unfair without further research. The hotel was attractive, welcoming and the secure car parking a bonus. The room was comfortable if basic, clean and quiet. The bathroom was excellent and breakfast arrangements good once the staff had woken up to the need to maintain food levels upon buffet displays. We dined in the restaurant on both evenings and whilst the first evening provided a very acceptable meal, the following night my wife's offering of "hanger steak" (which I had enjoyed the previous night) was almost inedible, tough and overcooked. She was offered a replacement but declined on the basis that couples dining together should "eat together"! Overall, a very pleasant hotel but perhaps not a location I would seek in the future.
Excellent accommodations. The hotel location is not far from the train station - too close to take a taxi and too far to haul luggage! Great breakfast! Very accommodating staff and very comfortable. Attended a wedding - very happy to have an iron and ironing board in our room.
We were booked into duplex rooms. While they were clean, obviously well maintained, and comfortable, they were spartan. The bed is in a "loft" along with a second bathroom. If you're agile and the outside temperature is temperate - great! In my case, the temperature was a bit warm which meant the temperature in the bedroom loft was insanely hot. Recommend rooms other than the duplex during most times of the year. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. Overall, a good experience!
We chose this hotel because it was close to La Brenne and the Berry region of France and in that regard it was very good. Chateauroux we found to be unexceptional and the two churches that it is famed for we found very dark and dreary. Compared to other Best Western hotels we have stayed at we found this one's accommodation to be slightly less comfortable and a bit more like a superior premier Inn - that said, we found the staff very friendly and helpful and the restaurant very convenient given that we did not relish walking into the town in the evening. Although the standard of the restaurant was not haute cuisine it was, nonetheless, perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced. All in all, we would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.
En route to the South of France, we did not know anything about Chateauroux and chose on the basis of Internet research. The hotel was very comfortable- the duplex was huge with two bathrooms and more bed space that we needed as a family with two teenagers.. Very very comfortable. High windows made the space airy and cool. A little kitchenette was a bonus. Toiletries were lovely. Only two cups and two small portions of condensed milk was the only down point. A bit of a walk into town but superb value compared to other BW hotels we have used. We will return.
