Best Western Hotel John Jay Inn, Calexico

Excellent staff. They really try to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The small fitness area has room for 1 person in between the machines to do yoga. The immediate area has low traffic and a side road which is good for a walk or run.

My room was ok, however the shower curtain was falling off the walls, heavy black looking mold around the tub & wall edge, and had an issue with some "pests" found a roach crawling on the wall and one IN one of the beds, and unfortunately the third escaped the wrath of my shoe. Would I stay here again possibly if it was my last resort; sure...

staff professional clean rooms close to food, shopping and within few minutes of business we drove about 300 miles we could of stayed in El Centro but chose Calexico instead this hotel had a gas station, Walmart, Dennys Applebee's and several other restaurants stores within walking distances thanks John Jay Inn !!!!

The room was gross to start...mold in the shower, it stunk like a locker room, and the floors were only clean in the middle. The bed lays on a metal frame and is hard and uncomfortable. The pillows felt like they were full of cut up styrofoam. I booked 2 nights and was had to stay a 3rd to meet a friend with car troubles and messed up on the date...the hotel manager told me too bad. They took my money as a no show even though it was just double booked and would not offer to change it. Horrible customer service. I ended up next door at the Holiday Inn Express and it was wonderful!! Never again!

Staff is friendly. Hotel is always clean. If you need extra towels they will happily provide them. They appear to follow covid guidelines. No hot breakfast served at this time but they do provide a grab and go bag with some snacks fruit and water.

I told the girl at the front desk, I have a package with tracking number and time it was delivered to the front desk today (12/23/19). Her response was "No package was dropped off today." I showed her the tracking number and time it was dropped off to the front desk and asked her to check the security cameras. She refused to check the security cameras. Again, she repeated, "No packages were dropped off today." The juices are diluted with water that they taste more of water than juice. The dining room is miniature - only 4 tables. There's sunning and airing of mattress in the parking lot!

The only decent thing about this place were the ladies at the front desk. They were kind and welcoming. The room itself is digesting. The floors are dirty with numerous stains everywhere. The shower rod isn't secured properly to the wall and it droops down. It had bits of papers and cardboard wedged under it. Due to the the shower rod dropping the shower curtain wouldn't stay shut because it would slide down to the middle, causing the water to splash out and leave a pool on the floor. The complimentary breakfast was horrible they have four tables shoved in a tiny space where it's difficult for people to get around each other. The juice was so watered down it didn't taste like juice, but more of a water with the essence of a fruit. The heaters for the food I'm guessing are old and needing replacement because the food was cold. Won't be staying at best western again.

We first got there and they said the elevator was broken and would be repaired thr next day and it was not. I'm assuming that's it had been broken for a while by other reviewers. The stairs where dirty construction trash everywhere. The room had a leak and was landing on the sofa and reported it to the front desk ... no help at all by the way. The floor was disgusting stains everywhere. Found hair on a pillow. Breakfast was undercooked. The parking or lack there of due to construction that they dont mention that has been going on for a while didn't see any work being done .

Super clean, super friendly, super convenient with walking distance to an Applebee's, a Denny's, Walmart, gasoline, convenient stores etc. Nice Little mini gym with TV in air. Right off Highway 111 about a half mile before entering Calexico.

The title says it all!! Professional staff, nice facilities that are well maintained and a comfortable, quiet room at a reasonable price. What more could one ask for? I would definitely stay here again.

Recognizing that our vacation days are during the hot summer days in California Imperial Valley, it was a pleasant surprise to find the Best Western Hotel in Calexico very cool. My children loved walking into a room that accommodated their temperature needs. I loved the cool bed waiting for me to cool me down. Thank you ....

If you go to the website it shows the front counter with flowers but when you arrive there are no flowers and a lot of cameras... why is that John Jay is it dangerous to stay at your Hotel? If you have pets the owner will overcharge you as well as the reservationist stated $20.00/night for pet(S) the owner will charge you $40.00 you have been cautioned.

I love staying at BW and so does our pup! The staff are always friendly & accommodating! We're truck drivers who often have to hang around waiting for a trailer to cross the border and a stay at the BW always provides a nice break from the truck.

Close to where I needed to be. Expensive to stay. The hotel was being remodeled when I stayed there in March 2019. A huge container was right in front of the hotel. There was no noise at night so my stay was pleasant.

The best place to stay near the Mexican border! Super clean, super friendly staff, perfect location just off the highway and walking distance to both Denny's and Applebee's, Also super close to mall, Starbucks, gas etc.

The property location was perfect for my needs, the border was close for the business I needed and shoping and food places were close to the property. The staff was freindly and helpful at all times. The room was clean and comfortable.

We like to stay here when we visit Calexico. We are never disappointed. Close to restaurants and shopping. More than we like to spend but worth it. Location seems safe and secure. Frint desk staff usually friendly and helpful.

I stayed here before my trip to Mexico. I found the place clean and quite. The staffs were friendly. Everything in the room in good working condition including the wifi internet. The beds were comfortable enough. The price was competitive. The complimentary breakfast have just right to get me ready for my trip. I didn't get to try the pool or the gym but they look well maintained. I don't mind staying here again.

A very nice hotel with a lot of convenient places close by in the event that you want to venture out shop or dine. Safe and secure with inside corridors. I've been staying here for years I've never had a problem

A very nice and clean hotel, where the staff is very nice and helpful. Enough parking and clean grounds. The pool was also nice and clean. The rooms are very clean and the mattresses are very comfortable.

Great staff - amazing people and very convenient. I was in the area traveling for work and always enjoyed the team that cared for the hotel. The breakfast was such a treat and the pool was such a plus.

Just checked in a few hours ago. Easy..smooth check in. Clean room. Maria and Veronica are the best. Friendly...helpful. They gave me a welcome bag with snacks and water. Some hotels charge you for water. Not this Best Western. I have a nice view from my room. So far...so good! I will leave another review tomorrow. ??

We stayed at the best Western while group of us, rockhounds, explore the nearby desert for beautiful rocks. We have a Saturday night dinner around the pool and generally take over the hotel for a weekend.

Since the new owner took over this place is amazing. The level of service I get is top notch and the rooms are great. They always say you get what you pay for and I say with this hotel you get way more then you pay for. I've stayed here 3 times now and I expect to stay here every time I'm in town now.

Great location. Very dog friendly, and two locations for dogs to "exercise". Close to malls, and yet far enough out of town that you are not caught up in the border crossing traffic. Rooms good size, and they actuarially serve a full hot breakfast to include eggs and sausage.

I had an excellent stay at this location. In addition, the border is less than 7 minutes away and very close to the Greyhound station. I recommend that you awake early as the breakfast is only available from 6am -9am.

Very Satisfied, Parking is crowded due to the amount of commercial work trucks of the workers using the Hotel. The Hotel is well located to both of the Borders and easy access. I have stayed at this Hotel many times and because of its location, price and ammenities

Meets standards expected for a business hotel. Good breakfast, on time. Staff was attentive. Some question of security in this border town, but hotel is fenced all the way around except for entrance/exit driveway, helping us feel safe.

This is a great example of why I look for a West Western! The place is always clean and comfortable and the staff is wonderful! You just can't go wrong with Best Western. We travel with a group on motorcycles once or twice a year. We love this brand and will look for it again!

Husband choose wrong booking choice, I contacted to cancel almost 2 months out from booking and was told too bad. My husband tried to help with booking of room, chose wrong as the no cancel choice was in the spot where we normally pick for the reservation; he still feels bad.

Have stayed here many times over the past few years. Always a good experience. Staff is helpful. Rooms are clean. They don't smell musty as some do at times. Breakfast could use some help. More choices. Fresher fruit.

Everything is better at this hotel than the neighboring hotel EXCEPT that you need to remember to have the desk staff "refresh" your card key every time you re-enter the hotel, as they don't function properly. Staff are terrific, everything super clean and fresh, & Denny's & Applebee's are walking distance. Easy exit off the incoming highway and it is a block north of town. Go to D'Poly Taqueria a block away for fantastic Mexican food.

Clean, breakfast is good, never had major issues. The room is always clean, have been staying here since 2007, every time we want to cross over to Mexicali, but stay on the US side. It would be cool if they offered a shuttle to the border, but it's understandable that the traffic is awful

we stayed 2 nights, went to Mexicali while staying here. returning to stay at this location. We stayed in the suite great price and room. The staff is outstanding going beyond our expectations. Used the computer furnished, in order to print out information about Mexico .

We paid $100/night for a hotel that had no access from the main road and without SIRI would not have been able to find our way in. The air conditioner was so noisy it kept us awake. The hotel was undergoing renovation which he did not find out until we arrived. There was a ladder outside of our bedroom window which was a security/safety issue. The breakfast offered was minimal. Would not recommend.

This was my first time staying at this particular Best Western hotel. It was a very good experience. Kind and friendly staff, very clean inside and out. Would most definitely stay again if in the area!

Clean clean Comfortable beds and 8 out of 10 Breakfast with eggs proteins and carbs. Surprisingly tasty. THe waffeles are make your own and had a custom Best western logo in them. Nice touch. Staff is over the top friendly, the pool area was excellent and had a BBQ to roast your own on. (Charcoal not gas) Spent 2 days here for the opening of dove season. Have already booked my room for next year! Excellent Value See you soon

Visit the El Centro/Calexico area regularly and always pleased with the Best Western John Jay In in Calexico. This stay was no exception. The front desk staff, as always, was extremely courteous and friendly. Internet connection extremely strong!

This was a last minute decision to stay at BW. I am so happy we did. The service was 5 star, and the room was really nice. We will definitely stay here again! Everything was clean and felt well kept. Customer service was outstanding. Maria at the front desk is amazing!

We have been going to the dentist in Mexico for the last two years. This is where we always stay. They are always so friendly and helpful here. Veronica and Maria go beyond the call of duty. They call taxi's and Uber for us. They helped with a car lock out this last time. We thoroughly enjoy staying here.

Good location with respect to the border; friendly staff; decent breakfast included--- better than many hotels; a little run down but no major problems. There isn't a lot to do in Calexico, but if I needed to go again, I would stay at the John Jay Inn

Everything was great here..!! Great staff and good breakfast.. Only drawback is the very hot weather this time of year..!! Stayed indoors most of the day, though the night temperature didn't cool much!! :-)

I have occasional business at this border town, and this hotel is a great overnight stop. Rooms were what I expect at Best Western, clean and in good maintenance. There are a couple suites available (I was upgraded this trip - look for #212 or #312).

This Best Western has been the best I have stayed at. I am treated very well here as I stay often for business. My home away from home, very welcoming and clean rooms. I leave before breakfast due to the nature of my job, so I cannot review that. When I come in thou there is always hot tea and coffee and ice water available.

This is a very clean and attractive property in a not so clean and attractive town. Great rates. Super friendly staff. Greeted with big smiles by front desk gals at check in and check out. Had a "To Go" bag at check out with a bottle of water, orange, and a granola bar in it at check out. Nice Touch!

I usually steer away from Best Westerns since most are old and outdated. Not this one - everything is fairly new and clean, clean, clean! I would recommend this property and stay there again. The only con was complimentary internet - so slow my attachments could not load.

Good hotel, great value, friendly staff. Central to the city. Despite being next to the highway, it is not noisy. The hotel fills up quickly so you should make reservations. Only drawback which may not matter to some, is the hallways can feel stuffy especially on a hot day.

The hotel was excellent for our needs, the property is fairly new it looks like. The room was comfy, a trip to the border for sales and a success at it. Also a road trip, so best of both worlds. Loved room 223 will be back again if in the area!

Very friendly staff. The rooms were clean the breakfast was very good. The pillows were so comfortable. We rented 3 rooms total one was the business suite it was so spacious. Everything worked fine in all 3 rooms.

John Jay in Calexico is a nice quiet place to stay. It is affordable and centrally located to shopping and dining establishments. The hotel is near to both border gateways. Also, parking is available and is particularly easy for handicapped guests. The breakfast menu is simple but hearty with a combination of warm and cold foods.

A friendly staff who always greets us with a smile, a fresh and clean room, a quiet night adding to the solitude of our sleep makes this a welcome location to pause on our journey. Their Web site rate was best as well!

We often stop here on our way to Los Algadones. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are moderately upscale. The breakfast is above average. There are a number of nearby restaurants and a movie complex.

As other reviews state, if you find yourself in Calexico, this is a good option. I had a quick one night stay and it was just fine, clean and comfortable. The gym is small but I appreciated it being there. I also really appreciated the complimentary printing at the business center. I saw a lot of off road vehicles in the parking lot so I'm guessing this is convenient for those kind of experiences as well. Staff was also kind upon check in and check out.

We had a nice stay here. We enjoyed using the hot tub associated with the pool. Our room was fine with no problems. The breakfast was the usual hotel fare, nothing special but nothing wrong either. The front desk staff was friendly.

Very clean hotel with a very good breakfast. My room was very clean and comfortable with a refrigerator and microwave. Hotel staff were very friendly and maids were very efficient. Location was convenient to local business.

When we arrived the hotel was completely booked except for one suit! It was fairly priced and very nice and we would book that again. We always stay here the night before we cross the Mexico borer for our winter stay in San Felipe.

They need to check the A/C especially during the summer to make cure that they are working right. Room was clod and then get hot because the A/C wasn't turning on right away after my Aunts funeral I didn't want get up or call anybody because I was too tried.

I stayed one night before my GOES Global Entry interview and this was a great option in Calexico. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very large and clean. The bed was pretty comfortable. Air conditioning was a bit loud but worked well. Breakfast is included. Typical hotel/motel breakfast options: mass produced eggs, bacon, toast, cereal, yogurt, granola, fruit, muffins etc. There is also a pool and a small gym. The gym had a stationary bike, stairmaster, treadmill and a few sets of free weights. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling through Calexico. It is about a 15 minute drive to the GOES/SENTRI office.

I come in 2-3 times each year for the dove season. Staff at the front desk always nice and helpful. Room cleaning excellent. I've been to other motels in the area but John Jay is the best thus far. No need to stay anywhere else. Breakfast is not bad....typical eggs, soggy bacon, waffle maker, breads, fruit, juices and coffee.

This was our first time in the area and we had a terrific stay. I was traveling with my five-year-old son and he had a blast. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, the best was comfy and the breakfast was nice, too. Plus, there are lots of great places to eat nearby. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel doesn't offer a whole lot of bells and whistles, but that is not surprising given that it is is in Calexico. What it does offer is a clean room with a friendly staff. I will definitley stay there when I'm in Calexico in the future.

Stayed at John Jay Inn on numerous occasions because of convenience and the cleanliness of the place, also the friendly and warm people behind the desk. All the people that work there, the clerks, the maids and others are very friendly and accommodating. Their continental breakfast is included and plentiful to start the day.The location is conveniently located to the border and shopping is close by. Any time we'll be driving by, we'll be booking at John Jay Inn. Very good value for the money. I recommend this motel to everyone.

Staff always helpful/friendly. Rooms consistently clean/comfortable. Perfect location just off Hwy 86 before you enter Calexico, with Applebee's and Denny's walking distance, and Walmart across the hwy if you need anything. Next door is Holiday Inn Express - weird chemical odors and no mirror in room. This place totally smoke-free, mirror in room convenient, just dependable overall. I stay here frequently.

Stayed 4 nights for business purposes. Rooms are nice, staff is excellent. Everything is great except the Internet. It is extremely slow. Less than 2 meg. Wireless speed is usually not that good in a hotel. However I was using the hard wired Internet jack and it was still bad. It should be speedy using the data jack.

We had an outstanding stay here during our Christmas vacation while visiting family. The service and personal care given to us by the young lady at the desk during the late shift "Meria" was magnificent. I've stayed there twice recently, and it's been a very pleasant stay both times. The rooms are clean. The shower has plenty of hot water. And the staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast space is small and the choices are limited, but the food is good just the same. I'm been making periodic trips to Mexicali for some medical treatment. The John Jay Best Western in Calexico has become my lodging of choice. I'll be back there again in just a few weeks.

Very clean hotel, friendly staff, decent included breakfast and comfy beds. 1 star taken off due to rather poor parking. Lot was filled with trucks and trailers leaving few spots left. Night manager was nice enough to move his own personal vehicle elsewhere to allow me to park.

Good place to stay. Breakfast area very small and sometimes gets crowded. Overall quiet and pleasant. Rooms very clean. Hot water is generated quickly and TV is good size and quality. More quiet rooms away from lobby.

For a last minute stay it was great and the price even better. Only thing was that since it was right next to lobby and reception area in the morning it was noisy with morning breakfast, other than that it was great.

This was the first time that I have stayed at this Best Western and I must say it was a great experience. I was heading home from Tucson and decided to stay in Calexico instead of Yuma. I was impressed the minute I walked into the lobby. Everything was clean and looked in order. I can't say enough about my room. It was spotless and everything worked. The bed was very comfortable and the room had two air conditioners that worked perfect. There is a Denny's and an Applebees that is just a short walk from the hotel. As far as scenery goes there is really not a whole lot to look at from this hotel. If you are looking for a good nights sleep in a comfortable and clean room with a great staff. This is your place.

Excellent Hotel, friendly, courteous service. An unintentional error was made on my bill, which was taken care of to my complete satisfaction. The complimentary breakfast was very nice. I always stay at this hotel when I visit my hometown, Calexico, CA.

This is a good choice if you find yourself in Calexico. It is neat and clean and near some restaurants. There are no surprises here, either good or bad. The counter help did a decent job and people here appeared to be very willing to assist you if necessary. The air-conditioning works well, which is good, it is hot as heck here today!

We booked a suite for 2 nights which was great value for 2 rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean, swimming pool is small but okay, breakfast and 24hrs coffee machine were great. Can surely recommend this hotel.

For the opening of dove hunting season this hotel was booked solid. The friendly staff welcomes hunters and provides dove cleaning facilities. It is common to see guests carrying shot guns and hunting gear dressed in full camo going to and from vehicles to room. The room was clean and comfortable with good air conditioning running 24hrs. The full breakfast was reasonably good, except that during hunting season the hotel should offer breakfast starting at 4 am to 10am, instead of 6am -9am. By 5am most hunters have already left to the fields. Parking was free and plentiful. The only annoyances of the room was the toilet running and needed significant jiggling of the handle and the refrigerator was balancing on three legs and care was needed when opening the door. The price was affordable and the stay was pleasant. Wish the hotel would provide dove hunting scouting reports with locations. Free wi-fi worked great.

Needs some small improvements to the property. Very clean rooms with a comfortable bed. A/C's are out of date and need to be upgraded. Printer in business area was out of service. Had to wake up the gentleman at 430 to check out. Rooms are very clean and newly updated. Average fitness center and pool. Good breakfast items overall.
