We arrived at this hotel on a very busy Saturday evening there was a wedding reception being held there. The parking area is large but probably due to the wedding and being the golf course parking it was a little difficult. The room was like a small apartment with fridge microwave and kettle etc, it was very tired looking and could definitely do with an upgrade, the shower has certainly seen better days but is serviceable. Now having said all that the staff are truly amazing and very helpful.
We stayed overnight in a clean, comfortable 1 bedroom apartment which had a lovely view over the golf course and ocean. The apartment had a kitchenette with a microwave though hotplate or oven. The fridge was a very small bar fridge. The staff are helpful and friendly. Parking is free.
great place to stay on the beach and at the city doorstep, staff are very helpful and great meals, no issue with parking
I had the best time at this hotel and was very sad to leave. I highly, highly recommend!!! Absolutely loved my spacious room that overlooked the golf course and ocean. It was clean and comfortable. What a view! Loved the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. They made me feel just like I was at home! Had several meals and drinks in the restaurant and bars. The service and food were excellent. Most fun was getting in three rounds of golf. The pro shop team made the entire process of renting clubs and getting on the course painless and easy. I enjoyed playing with some of the members who took me in and let me play along. The entire experience exceeded all of my expectations!
The hotel is a great facility in an excellent location. The staff on arrival were very helpful & friendly along with the staff in the bar & restaurant. The rooms are very tidy & clean with excellent facilities & views. The restaurant has an excellent menu backed up with great food at a reasonable price.
The best western city sands was a great family friendly affordable accomodation. The room was huge, clean and the staff helpful. There's even a great park at the location. There's also a beautiful golf course, bar and restaurant onsite
Nice place to stay with some disappointments for the money. We stayed in a top floor suite. Room was very comfortable and very clean. Staff were wonderful. Issue with the cost of the room was small but important for the cost of the room. No TV in the bedroom and single spilt system air con for the whole room. It sounds petty but at the cost of the room I assumed the bedroom would have a TV and a separate air con. Issue with a single air con is that your choice is a too warm night before bed and a good sleep or a pleasant evening and a cold night. Room had 1 bedroom for couples and I assumed that it would include a TV. The TV in the lounge room was very small. Again it sounds petty but for the money and being 2023 I would have expected more. Staff at the hotel were nothing but wonderful, the food at the restaurant on level 1 was sensational (eat there 2 nights) only thing that stopped 5 stars was the appointment of the room. Ocean view was wonderful
Do not expect to be able to make anything more than a cup of tea or coffee in your apt. Only a microwave & a jug. No toaster, no cooktop and no breakfast offered from Golf Club. Reason is that toasters were setting off fire alarms, ok we are good with that but why not offer breakfast even if to go. Never have we stayed in accommodation that did not offer something, so off to a local Cafe for breakfast...missing out here BW. We were in a 1 bedroom Ocean view. Wld have been nice to sit out & admire said view, but no outdoor furniture..wt!! Furniture in apt has seen better days. Positive note: Place was pretty clean just the cups needed an extra clean by us, good drying towels & plenty of blankets & pillows. There is a free laundry of washer & dryer which surprised, just have to pay for the laundry detergent. Oh & joy of joys a very clean iron Dinner in Golf club was very good
This Best Western Wollongong with golf course and ocean views is a hidden gem. Exceptional location and fantastic value. Very clean and with good sized room. I'm really happy to recommend this hotel to one and all…
My family and I stayed at the great western, I'd definitely recommend. Great place to stay with family, play area in the restaurant and in the outdoor area. Walking distance to the beautiful beach. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Perfect Hotel close to all things I needed to do in Wollongong, Restaurant and bar was perfect for my needs also had room service you basically have everything you need at this property. Would definitely stay again
We have come to visit friends for an early Xmas … the Hotel rooms are great . But!!! Because it is a golf club the facilities are fantastic but parking !!!!! They have a large car park and as I am disabled the many disabled parks out front of hotel are full of non disabled cars … no permits are visible in all 10 or more parking spots . When my husband questioned the receptionist about it he was told that it is a private car park and they had tried stickers but didn't work . So they just let people park there . This is not acceptable .
I arrived late, after a bus trip from Canberra, tired and weary. As I arrived, the receptionist was friendly, the surroundings seemed fresh, and the room were very tastefully designed and functional. Nevertheless, at this time, because the surroundings were dark and my concentration was waning, I did not really think too much about the room. At about 6.30 in the morning, as I awoke, I could hear some soft murmuring outside. When I opened the blinds, for the first time, I realised that I was facing the green undulations of a sweeping golf course, with the ocean crashing powerfully just behind. With the sun beaming down softly on the golfers, who were quietly practicing their putts nearby, the scene reminded me of an expansive painting. I felt absolutely enthralled while eating breakfast on a long balcony that overlooked the course, the ocean, and the escarpment to the right. Although I would not usually assign 5 stars to a hotel that does provide the pokies--my pet hate--the scene and service trumped these concerns
Very clean room exceptionally friendly staff nothing it was a problem totally enjoyable time, I would recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to the Wollongong area. The restaurant service and food was beyond my expectation
We booked 3 rooms for a golf trip .They were booked over the phone by one person two months previous. The person taking the booking was asked if they required the names of other guests so there was no mistake that the booking was for 3 rooms however on arrival they only had one room for us and were fully booked .Although they did apologise ,they were less than helpful in finding us anywhere else to stay.Fortunately ,we eventually found somewhere after numerous phone calls but we then had to stay a a much more expensive. The whole matter was handled badly and we were treated as if it was our fault! Very distressing and not good enough.
BW City Sands was a great choice for our friends weekend. Equally good for anyone looking for a bit more space than just a hotel room. If your looking for a clean, welcoming boutique style property in a great location with facilities and views to match this is it.
As a first time customer to this hotel I was shocked by the managers reluctance to assist me with my issue. I had booked online using lastminute. When I cancelled the booking I did so on the hotel website. The website page showed the cancellation as confirmed and I unfortunately did not take a screen shot of this, my mistake. I assumed that my cancellation had gone through. No further emails were sent by the hotel confirming a booking or reminding me of the reservation so I naturally assumed it was cancelled as this is what I viewed on the website page. An email also was not sent to say you have to cancel via last minute. No correspondence whatsoever was received. You can imagine my shock when they called to say it was not cancelled at 7pm on the day I had initially booked. Yesterday in the pouring rain I was looking frantically for a booking for myself and two children alone in a foreign place, thinking that I had cancelled i tried desperately to book another hotel. Even after imploring the manager to give me a credit and not even a refund, he vehemently has refused to even credit me. I was told that there was no way they could give a credit for the amount. My question is are they so desperate for clientele that they are willing to lose patronage by being so harsh, it is certainly a sad and sorry state of affairs when understanding and compassion for your clients difficulties are not considered.
The Best Western City Sands has everything a business or leisure traveller can ask, even if your not a golfer. the bar and restaurant are outstanding and the views from the rooms overlooking the ocean spectacular.
Redemption and outside presented well, the receptionist was great - very helpful and friendly. Made some suggestions for dinner and breakfast. Full credit to the staff. The room was big and roomy (2 bedroom apartment) but …. Large stains in the carpet , carpet missing in parts , very low shower pressure , no back on the back of the tv remote , furniture had big marks and some of the furniture was slightly broken. The cleaning staff also eating their noodles for breakfast in the hall way wasn't a good look. For $269 a night it was not good value for money and very disappointing.
Visited with my family for one night when going to an event at WIN Entertainment Centre. Hotel is within walking distance of the city centre. On site restaurant was good. Family room was large and comfortable, with 2 separate bedroom as, lounge and kitchenette. Quiet rooms.
Long balcony with exceptional view of golf course plus ocean. We had a lounge room with sofa, 4 chairs and a table and kitchenette The bedroom was separate with access to the balcony and views also. Bathroom was 2 way from bedroom and lounge area. All necessary amenities and very clean. Coffee, tea biscuits and bottled water replenished daily as well as cleaning our room.. Restaurant and bar onsite as well as a small area with pokies. Although hotel is dated, we had a very pleasant stay in a comfy bed with a great view.
Great location with only a 5 minute walk to town. The beach is right on the doorstep, club and motel are great and if you are a keen golfer this is the place to enjoy a mini holiday. Overall terrific .
My husband and I were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary so we decided to stay in Wollongong for the night. Great accommodation (one bedroom suite overlooking the golf course and ocean) with our own private balcony on the top floor. Price was affordable. Everything was clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and welcoming. It was nice to have a drink in The Tap Inn Bar. The Deck Restaurant is lovely with great views. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.
Staff were lovely, the food at the 19th is absolutely beautiful, great views from room and for dinner. It's nice and close to the shops without being right in the middle of town. Nothing was a hassle for the staff.
Looking over a golf course to the ocean has to be one of the best views available. And the balconies with small table and chairs is a lovely place to enjoy the view. Watching dawn then sunrise quite magical. The kitchenette is adequately, if sparsely furnished. We went down to the café - restaurant for a lazy evening meal - excellent mix or trad club meals and tasty Korean inspired dishes. Needs a bit more attention to detail but overall a good meal. Not impressed to have to go inside for post-meal drink because a smokers' area was below our balcony. Overall an enjoyable if slightly pricey night - and the view was great.
From the time of arrival all of our needs were met. The room was excellent with a great view across the golf course to the ocean. The room was well appointed with everything we needed. Covid requirements were clear. Lunch in the bar was good & service was high quality.
It's all about the views and the service. Go for an ocean view- it's so worth it. The place is openly 4 stars and lacks a little polish in places but the service is great and views are divine. Special shout out to Michael who went over and above with customer service!
I was very upset to find out I couldn't cancel or change my booking due to NSW going into a red zone, meaning Victorians couldn't travel there without quarantining for 14 days. It's been the hardest 18 months for Victorian's to start off with, then to be told tough luck we won't change your booking even thou it wasn't my fault. $1224 down the drain. I WILL NEVER USE BOOKINGS.COM AGAIN
The apartment is in the clubhouse. It is large and has a small kitchen. It is clean, functional and the view from some rooms is stunning. Check in is via club entrance. There is nothing to complain about. A typical club house is available for food and drinks below.
Beautiful hotel with great views of the golf course and ocean. Check in and check out was quick and easy, room was clean and neat with sliding doors in bedroom and living areas, and a balcony to admire the views
At Wollongong I stayed at Best Western City Sands at the golf club albeit with few additional water hazards than normal, due to all the wet weather! Very nice room with comfortable bed, spacious ensuite, a separate lounge room plus a balcony overlooking the golf course with views to South Beach Wollongong: very relaxing! Lot's of crazy drivers around Wollongong all wanting to arrive 10 minutes before they leave! Nothing has changed in the 26 years since I moved from here! Recommended!
Our room overlooking the golf course was just magic. Had the big sliding glass doors open all night and went to sleep with the sound of the surf and woke to the sun just lighting up the links golf course, what a fantastic sight. Fresh sea air and a look at the course we were to play that morning. Free wifi was welcome. The little kitchenette would be handy if staying a few nights. The price is very reasonable for the size and quality of the room. This motel is incorporated into the Wollongong Golf Club building so couldn't be handier for a golfer. Pro shop is full of good stuff! Hope to bring friends back and stay again soon.
As usual stayed at the Best Western at Wollongong, central to everything and just far enough out away from the hustle and bustle of the City Centre. As the name suggests it is the Best Place to stay in Wollongong.
We had a medical appointment in Wollongong & didn't feel like driving home the same day. This hotel suited our needs perfectly, nice outlook, quiet & we were able to have dinner there. Would certainly use it again.
The perfect position if you were a golfer, with an easy walk to the beach and into town for a choice of restaurants and cafes. A coastal shared path can be used for walking, running or cycling to a selection of beaches and eateries with views.
This place was a pleasant surprise. I almost didn't book the place, was looking elsewhere. But being on a golf course gave the place a resort feel. Didn't have a pool but that was OK. as it's on the beach. The 2 bed apartment was massive with 2 bathrooms. The best bit (besides the golf course) was the huge bistro with lovely views. Could spend all day sitting there. They were kind enough to let my kids have a hit on the golf course and I really appreciated that. This place almost made up for our cancelled Queensland holiday. The staff at the golf shop and reception were very friendly.
Stayed here for 4 nights. We had an ocean view room & the view was superb - overlooking golf course & out to the ocean. Room was very clean and well appointed. Venue is COVIDSafe - contactless check in. Daily housekeeping is suspended at the moment but fresh linen (towels) is left outside our room each day. Reception advised if we wish a room service during our visit then we can just request it. The hotel is in a very handy location - 5 min walk to beach, 10 mins to Crown street with lots of restaurants a short stroll away. We ate on the 1st floor bistro which was also excellent. Staff friendly & professional. We would absolutely stay here again.
My wife and I stayed here for a few days over the Christmas period whilst catching up with family in Wollongong. We had an apartment-style room overlooking the golf course and the beach. The hotel is well located, only 5 minutes walk to either the beach or to a good restaurant precinct. The patrolled part of the surf beach is an extra 5 minutes away at City Beach. The main Wollongong shopping precinct is also only an easy 5-10 minute walk. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a good size bathroom, and a lovely balcony to allow us to enjoy the views both by day and by night. The bed was very comfortable, and the hotel was quiet except for a bit of surf noise (which we liked!) The kitchenette was a little limited, with just a kettle, microwave, sink and basic crockery and cutlery. The apartment had a fridge, but it was quite small. With so many great restaurants nearby, these limitations were certainly not a problem for us. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
We booked this hotel after our Christmas plans were disrupted by border closures. We like to self-cater, so chose a studio apartment rather than a hotel room, with a kitchenette. I would have thought that a kitchenette implied provision of basics amenities like a toaster, but there was only a kettle. And no kitchen knives with which we could even attempt to cut our unsliced loaf of bread. We gave up and went out for breakfast. And a warning, if you have a mountain view apartment, you will not be able to open the balcony doors in the afternoon or evening because of the cigarette smoke drifting up from the smoking area directly below. On the plus side, the bed is very comfortable and the apartment itself quite nice.
Visiting family in Wollongong overnight. Compared a number of hotels for price / features. This one was the best. We had a 1 bed apartment overlooking golf course and ocean. Beautiful sunrise views. We played golf and had a lot of fun on the links style course. We had dinner at the Nineteenth Restaurant which was very good. All staff were cheerful and helpful. Definitely return next time in the Gong.
Great location, room was clean and inviting, staff were welcoming, overall experience was fabulous and great value for money, we used the amenities at the club, great prices and a very relaxed atmosphere
Stayed for two nights room 201 . The room had a smell of dampness and it was freezing , no exaggeration this room was like an ice box . The air con in the sitting area was set at 30 and it just managed to take the chill off the room . It did nothing to warm the bedroom so an extra blanket and even towels were used to keep us warm.It used to have a tv in the bedroom but it is no longer supplied . We've stayed here previously and never had an issue but after this stay I don't think we'll ever go back. We were also charged $363.75 for two nights and when I questioned this ( $148 per night was the advertised price) I was told that a $50 hold fee was applied . Doesn't quite add up and no real explanation was given for the odd amount but I should receive a refund of said holding deposit within 5 business days . It would have been nice to have been told about this when checking in but again no explanation . It's a shame , this used to be a decent place to stay but I'd look for an alternative after this experience
Fabulous room, location, and really friendly helpful staff - excellent. Great room all facilities ocean view was lovely. Golf lovers would have a great time as the golf course is right there. Plenty of convenient shops coffee takeaway all located nearby
My husband and I spent 2 nights in an Ocean View 1 bedroom apartment. Despite being on a main road, it was very quiet. All the staff were extremely pleasant and went out of their way to be helpful. We ordered dinner from room service. The food was good and reasonably priced. We thought the tariff we were charged for our room was excellent value for accommodation in such a convenient and pleasant location. We would definitely stay again.
After the COVID pandemic we just needed to escape to the beach. A bonus was overlooking the golf course and the beach, simply stunning. Staff were awesome, and the facilities great. We would happily go again tomorrow if we could.
The motel was the perfect answer to our needs. The staff were very helpful which made our staff very pleasant. The location on a golf course and almost on the beach in Wollongong made the stay very enjoyable.
I had a wonderful stay in this hotel over the weekend with my partner. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the golf course and ocean. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go as the hotel is close to Wollongong Central shops, Wollongong beach and North beach. I'd recommend going for a stroll on the walking path that takes you along the beach starting just outside the hotel all the way to North Beach.
We had an overnight stay here and the view of the beach over the Golf Course was so relaxing for a quick break. We had two chairs on our balcony to sit and soak up the breaking waves, the room was very clean and bed comfortable. For an apartment style room however, it doesn't have a toaster of cooking appliances, except a microwave which can be awkward, although plates and cutlery were there. They do have an in-house cafe and a limited continental breakfast to your room which we didn't bother with. Considering the limited meal facilities it was perhaps a little overpriced for what we have had at other places but we would stay again.
Located in the Wollongong Golf Course Resort. Really large room with a sliding door leading on to a large balcony. Floor to ceiling window and I recommend paying extra for ocean view room, which overlooks the seafront and golf course… worth every dollar. Reasonable, but not overly memorable, food at either the large bar area or full restaurant on the 1st floor. Quiet, clean welcoming, efficient staff. The only downsides were lack of a/c in bedroom. The room could also use some furniture on the amazing balcony. Close to shops and the stadium. An easy walk to, and along, the beach if that's what ya fancy. I fully recommend it!
My family stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment here recently, the apartment was large with 2 en-suites off the bedrooms and a kitchenette. We were provided with free wifi. Staff were informative and friendly. The location is perfect if you had an event in Wollongong. The price was great. I'd stay again.
Rooms are above Wollongong Golf Club and half the rooms have ocean views from the rooms/balcony. We stayed in their ocean view room which is a one bedroom apartment with lounges, coffee table, dining table and chairs. great kitchenette and comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Prices on weekdays are a bargain out of holiday time. The golf club bistro and facilities downstairs are a bonus. I would give this place a 4.5/5 if I could on this site,
Great location. Beautiful views from ocean view rooms. The food at the restaurant was great as well. In room amenities though were not comparable to something like mantra service apartments where U get everything to enjoy the rooms as a self sufficient apartment.
We will definitely book here again when in Wollongong. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The views from our balcony was excellent. Only thing that could be better is breakfast which is only available from 10am which was disappointing. The lady at the reception was organised and friendly. They also provide free parking.
I was booked in by an agent for a business trip. Would never go back. Furniture in the room was worn. Shower partially blocked so had to keep my time short to avoid flooding the bathroom. Breakfast did not start until 10.00am
Fantastic value for money, gorgeous ocean views, amazing staff, TAB facilities, great bistro and bar, walking distance to the city for restaurants, nightlife, shops. Short stroll to the beach. Couldn't get better than that.
Most hotels will allow early check-ins when available. I did not feel like a guest but rather an intruder, and was "allowed" in to my room at 1:45pm Half of the premises is a golf club and its difficult to see where their emphasis is. The tarrif was not cheap, especially for no sea view, old tired carpet. The premises is old and tired. The parking is good and close to the centre of town.
Really great place to stay especially if you like links golf. Only issue was we couldn't get the Rugby League in the hotel room because there were technical issues with the Foxtel feed, First world issue but was the only downer of the stay.
Best Western is a great place to stay. It has a lovely restaurant catering for everyone. It also has a licensed bar. My room had a kitchenette and separate bedroom with a large balcony. Some rooms overlook the golf course with ocean views and the others overlook the hill and carpark.
The family stayed here for a function and we had a mountain view room and a sea view room. Both rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable without being ostentatious. The staff were very good, while still running the golf club portion well. It is close to Crown St and the beach and would stay here again.
I had a 'mountain view' room (ie facing away from the sea) on the 3rd floor, and I was surprised by how large it was for the price, and the general standard. Although the hotel seems to be a sideline for the real focus of golf, it is a good option in Wollongong, and good value. If you can't get a room at the Novotel, then this is a good option, especialy if you are able to get an ocean view room, with a great view over the golf course to the ocean. Even though I was on the road side, I really didn't notice any road noise at night, and slept with all balcony doors open (perhaps 3rd floor is better than 1st?)
Rooms very clean but don't be fooled by mountain view, more like major road and car park view. Very noisy and can not have door or window open for fresh air a) because fumes from contestant traffic and b) the extreme noise. Bistro staff are friendly but woefully trained, no idea of customer service, the worst I have had for some time. Food itself as expected but not worth it. Go out and try elsewhere
The room and bathroom were clean and spacious and nicely decorated. The staff were lovely and professional. We had an enjoyable stay. The water pressure was a bit low and the door to the balcony in the lounge room didn't work properly but the one in the bedroom did
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment at The Wollongong Golf Club (City Sands). Not exactly what we were expecting. No noise, spacious, modern and clean. It had everything you could possibly want or need. Service was outstanding. Meals in the restaraunt downstairs. Plenty of free parking. Even an easy 5 minute walk to the beach or to WIN Stadium. Would definitely be staying here again!!!!
Beautiful location with views over the golf course and sea. Walking distance to the Marina and other shops. Rooms well appointed. A small kitchenette had a microwave oven etc. A washing machine and dryer is available for guests.
One of the most pleasant hotel experiences you could have. A really nice room, a really nice bar, food, outlook, position and made better with truly wonderful staff who definitely DESERVE A PAY RISE! I have no interest in golf but do yourself a favour, when staying in Wollongong stay here and say hello to any of the great staff and they will make you change your opinion of Wollongong.
Location great Staff great View great Room great Only downfall was the laundry the washing machine was broken and wouldn't complete rinsing and staff couldn't help Happy with our stay here was definitely nice
It was a great place to stay. Five minute walk to the city and sporting venues. Quiet. Nice views. Need to replace air conditioning units as it was very noisy. It was expensive but we did stay new years eve so that could have had something to do with it. Overall would stay there again
We stayed one night in a one bedroom apartment which was clean and spacious and had beautiful views overlooking the golf course and ocean not only from the living area but also the bedroom. Sleep quality was excellent because it was very quiet for our stay. Our early check-in was seamless and staff were, at all times, courteous and friendly. There was no trouble with parking. The highlight was sitting outside for afternoon drinks under the large shaded balcony that was getting the sea breeze. It is a 5 minute stroll to the beach and coastal promenade walk. We ate dinner at a very good Thai Restaurant a 3 minute walk away called the Jasmine Rice. We ate brunch at the café on site which was tasty and good value. We wish we could have stayed another couple of nights to explore the area more. We would highly recommend Best Western City Sands to our family, friends and work colleagues as a great base to visit the Wollongong area.
The establishment is more of a manage apartment rather than a hotel. The room we stayed had a living room, kitchen, microwave, etc. The location is alsi very strategic fow Wollongong, near the city center, part of the city's golf club, and a walk away feom the beach. The down side is that there is no concierge so you have to manage your own bags.
beautiful hotel the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because they are doing large amounts of construction and we weren't advised of this before checking in, so it was a little inconvenient. But overall lovely hotel in a perfect location.
Stayed for 1 night .great location.room was spacious and clean.comfortable bed and big spacious toilet .staffs are also very friendly and helpful.our room was facing the golf course and the sea which makes it even better.
Nice spacious rooms, very clean, with everything you could need. I chose a room with a view over the golf course. Convenient location. Only a short walk to restaurants, cafes etc.I would stay here again.
Stayed for three nights and had a lovely spacious room which was very comfortable and well furnished. Great meals available at the golf club restaurant located in the same building. Easy parking and access to Wollongong. Beach and waterfront close by. Doing some renovations at the time which was the only downside.
Decided to stay here for our 20th wedding anniversary as the view on their website looked amazing. Just checked in and this was the view from our room! There weren't even a table & chairs on the balcony for us to have a drink & look at the view, through the builders debris that was left right outside our balcony. Shame they did not warn us that we were staying in a building site when we booked. Will not be staying here again, very disappointing
Clean , quiet motel set on the Wollongong Golf Coarse. Lots of renovations going on right now , NO SIGNAGE which makes it extremely difficult to find at night. A couple of important area that also need improvement - no breakfast on offer until 8am , the pillows are probably the worst I've ever encountered , take your own if you can.
Had a one night stay at the Best Western Wollongong. Although they are doing some reno's on the exterior this didn't impact on our stay. Staff were very friendly on check in & we were surprised to receive a complementary drink of choice at the bar. Room was spotlessly clean with a lovely view over golf course & ocean. As we were seeing a show at the Merrigong theater this was a very easy 5min walk. Would not hesitate to recommend the Best Western City Sands ??
We had a great one night stay at the Best Western City Sands Wollongong. The room was huge with the bedroom being separate from the kitchen, dining and lounge area. The bathroom was also really spacious and there was also a big patio/balcony you could access from the lounge room or bedroom. The rooms appeared to have been updated recently as the bathroom and kitchen were quite modern. The hotel exterior is quite dated but there is constructions going on at the moment (which did not interrupt our stay) to update the hotel. Upon checkin we received two complimentary drink vouchers for the bar which was a really nice touch. All the staff were very friendly. The only feedback I would have is that the bed was not the comfiest bed I've slept in, but not the worst either. Overall a great stay and really good value, would definitely stay here again.
Plenty of parking out front. Only 5 minutes from city centre but very quiet.Pleasant and helpful staff at reception. Room on the third floor was very clean and comfortable. Great views over the golf course and ocean. Dinner at the restaurant was reasonably good.
We did have difficulty finding a way into the car park and reception of this grand hotel attached to the golf course, but perseverance and a trip around the block was rewarded. The room was large, extremely comfortable and everything was of the best quality. It was an easy distance to the shopping and eateries, and there is a bistro onsite. Our room faced the town and the mountains, but next time we stay we will try the ocean view and walk to the beach. Its a great place to stay, with great staff too.
Would recommend this hotel. The room was really good with views either over the ocean or the mountains. Just have to hop into the lift to get to the club bar which overlooks the golf course and the ocean. Our room overlooked the mountains which was a great view. So close to eateries in Wollongong and shopping. Also virtually next door to the Wollongong Stadium.
Stayed here recently and staff were wonderful. Great customer service skills. View from room was overlooking the golf course and the ocean. Room was exceptionally clean. Hotel was close to all amenities. Overall had a fantastic stay there.
The accommodation was in a great location for us. walking distance to heaps of venues, restaurants and shopping. The beach side rooms gave a great view of the beach and golf course. Rooms were a good size. Restaurant and housekeeping staff were friendly. Room crockery could do with an upgrade and windows and windows could be done on a more regular basis.
Had Good large room with balcony leading off both lounge and bedroom. Good view out onto golf course and ocean. Loved waking up in morn looking out on the view. Good location to go for a walk along beach front or on the beach. Do need bit more attention to detail in cleaning room - check under draws - be little nicer if linen not stored in movable bins in entrance area.
Hotel is close yo town. We had a great room overlooking the golf course and ocean, at a great price. This isn't high in star rating but great value for money We had a function at the club, the food and service was excellent. They have a great oudoor deck off the brasserie
Is truly amazing site and I enjoyed my stay at the seaside. Had cooked my own evening meal. Hotel very clean and tidy though car park needs a good cleaning. Seaside provides good viewing and a great walk on the beachside. Nice windy walk reminded me walking along the Fijian beaches. Will visit again soon for a round of golf.
We had an ocean view room and the view was great. The room itself was comfortable and roomy and had all the amenities you'd expect. On the downside the outside signage promoted the golf club which is attached but the fact that there is a hotel isn't that clear. The staff were bemused by the fact that we were confused. Be aware that because the hotel is attached to a golf club and it also has function room that it could be potentially busy. We had to cope with 2 wedding functions and the staff appeared undermanned in the restaurant because of it. On the plus side, there are plenty of other excellent eateries nearby. The party noise abated by midnight so you won't be kept awake all night
Stayed here for a 'coming to visit friends' weekend. The view from the Ocean View room was just lovely. Had a few hiccups with the the room itself. Thankful to Michael the Manager, who took my concerns seriously and made good on his word. This made all of the difference to us. Thank you again. Wollongong is just gorgeous. So many places to eat and such spectacular views.
Possibly the best location, this beach hotel is a fantastic escape from the city grind. Extremely peaceful surrounding, the beach itself is scarcely crowded offering almost a 'Just you and beach' experience. The beach is very well maintained, the beach is not too steep at the shores, there is dog designated area, walking trail that extends up to the nearby lighthouse. The trees that dot the beach and the skyline view makes it a memorable beach. Lots of privacy for the romantics too. The hotel has all the basic amneties, the golf course offers a breathtaking view. The rooms are large sized, the service is great, the staff is very courteous. The only challenge i had was the limited food menu in the hotel restaurant. This is a bigger challenge as there aren't too many food outlets surrounding the vicinity. This was the reason for one star less for this hotel. Recommended to anyone who is looking for a quick, relaxing gateway around Sydney. The road trip from Sydney is extremely gorgeous (don't take the M1 if you want to enjoy the beautiful drive to the hotel from Sydney).
Stayed here for one night when visiting family in Wollongong and had an Ocean view room. Great view over the golf course to the beach and ocean and pretty close to Wollongong centre. Food options from restaurant also pretty good. Recommend if in town, particularly if you want to combine with a round or two.
Stayed for one night in a queen suite. Room was spacious and clean, 1 bedroom with a queen bed, lounge with a sofa bed, kitchenette and large bathroom. Amazing views over the golf course and ocean. Free parking and free WiFi. Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Minutes walk to the stadium and a number of restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay here again.
Had to make a commute to the gong which I was initially very hesitant about and not sure what to expect, but was pleasantly suprised by the city sands. Nice rooms, and good location to town, my nephews wedding went off with out a hitch
This was the perfect accommodation for an overnight stay with my mum and young son. We had a two bedroom apartment which was very spacious and perfect for our needs. There was room service which was great because we got in late. Unfortunately, there was no hotplate in the kitchen and no toaster, because I had brought supplies to make breakfast, but we couldn't and the breakfast in the hotel started after we had to leave for our early start. The room was pretty clean, but the carpet was a little sticky.
Walking distance to everywhere. This venue is on the golf course giving spectacular views of both the course and the ocean.Good location for Wollongong Stadium visits whether for concerts or the football.
Walking distance to lovely restaurants, walk across the golf course for a lovely walk along the beach. Large comfortable quiet rooms with balconies. Only downfall was no furniture on the balcony.. ?? The rooms also have kitchenettes. Seperate bedroom, but no seperate air con so a bit stuffy. A free communal laundry is also a bonus. Restaurant had ok meals. Breakfast was only continental, and at $15 ea it was a bit steep for what was on offer.
situated right on the golf course - perfect for hubby to play around, also right on the beach and close to shopping centers - Perfect spot - staff, very helpful and friendly - clean modern rooms, on site parking - highly recommend
We had heard god reports for this restaurant. So we booked for a meal on a Sunday lunch time. When we had signed in and went upstairs to the restaurant we approached the counter and no staff were there at the time. Two of the staff were talking together so I approached them as they were not interested in customers. We were shown to our table. We worked out that we had to order at the counter and pay for lunch. Chicken Parmigiana was ordered by two of us and the cheese was so burnt that the edges could not be cut with a knife. Getting a member of staff we enquired about the state of the meal and were told that the meal we had always looked the same as ours.
Good view of over the golf course to the ocean. Comfortable well, equipped room. Comfortable bed. Good eating facilities in the club on 1st floor and pleasant staff. Central location with nice coastal walking path.
Last minute getaway down in coastal Wollongong, this was one of the only hotels available at a reasonable price (the gong has gotten exxy people). A little bit of a distance to crown st mall, but really close to the win stadium and beach. Saying that it's probably only a fifteen minute walk to the mall. Still close to everything. The room itself was basic and modern overlooking the green golf course and views of the sea. It had a small kitchenette which was great with small fridge and microwave. Seperate bedroom, and combined living room and dining. This was a comfortable stay and the staff were welcoming. We even got complimentary drinks vouchers for our one night stay which was a nice touch. Will stay there again.
We visit often because its a great place to stay, but take your insect repellent, because the mosquitoes breed in the golf course ponds down stairs. There is no pool, but the beach is a short stroll of 5 minutes. The view over the golf course and ocean is very nice, and a great way to wake up.
We stayed one night here based on the very positive reviews. Whilst there was nothing that was especially negative, I think I just expected more. Firstly, I was surprised that the wifi was not password protected, secondly there was an additional portable air conditioner in our room, implying that the fixed wall air conditioner was not working, but no one at reception mentioned this. Luckily it was not too hot in case we needed to use it. We put the fixed air conditioner on and it was pretty noisy, which might explain the presence of the portable one. Other than that, the room was clean, beds comfortable and it was fine for an overnight stay, but not sure I'd revisit.
The hotel is very well located in lovely Wollongong. The room with sea view is stunning. The kitchen is very well equipped. Bed huge and comfortable. Very quiet and charming. The green large golf courses are a bonus. Highly recommended!!
I found the premises to be clean and presentable, the bed was good quality and the room was spacious and comfortable. Overall it was good value for money. The staff could be a little more friendly. Perhaps a pest extermination is also warranted as a few large Cockroaches appeared in my room during my stay.
Well I came here based on the good reviews. I came with my two daughters, given ppl said this suitable for family. Good points: 1, perfect location, we love to walk in golf area and also walk to the beach. Also walk to malls and restaurants. 2, some ppl in the hotel are really nice. I accidentally broke a snowball in reception they cleaned quick with very good manner. One lady was very nice talking to my daughters and gave some lollies. The gentleman at the door very nice showing me the way and reminded me don't take kids into the water in the sea. Disappointed points: 1, corridor on level 2 smells very bad 2, door to balcony got no screens that we had to keep it closed otherwise mosquitoes will get in 3, menu choices in the bar really limited 4, worst of all, Friday night we heard very noisy music from the bar downstairs, this was terrible. My daughters went to bed at 935pm and still couldn't fall asleep nearly midnight because of the noise. I tried to call reception and asked when this will stopped and the call was automatically forwarded to the main bar and no one picked up. So, even though I really appreciated the people there, I felt really disappointed on some points. Won't come back.
We were in Wollongong for my husband school friends catch up. Lucky to get the booking as there was a cancellation. We have stayed previously. I thought the staff were good it situated in the Golf Club. We had a ocean view which was nice. I felt nothing special except Margi on the front desk was really helpful. Would return.
We have stayed here several times and will keep coming back while ever we need to visit the Illawarra region. Location is perfect, close to Wollongong central and the ocean and the football stadium if you happen to be there during the NRL season and follow St Gorge/Illawarra. The rooms are a good size and are maintained to a high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Stayed here for 2 nights as part of our golf social group. Fabulous room with a great view of the Golf Course and Ocean. Comfortable bed and bathroom was great. Quite a large room with a small kitchenette. Great breakfast and dinner in the Hotels restaurant. Plenty of parking and within walking distamce of the town centre. Fabulous spot to stay if you are an avid golfer.
Fully recommend this place for a great getaway. Top floor and in the middle was the best view. Very clean and love the bedroom separately. Very spacious. Have stayed before and prefer it the best accommodation in wollongong.
Awesome place.. great service from the reception to the bar staff on level 1 bar..great food.. had a flat battery on the Monday night the reception organised a battery pack first thing in the morning.. awesome service with a smile..will be back again...
We stayed overnight in a one bedroom apartment. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Comfortable king bed. Warm and cosy. We both had a good night's sleep. Reception staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel is located overlooking the sea, next to a golf course. The air conditioning unit was very noisy when I turned it on in the morning because I was cold. I turned it off because the fan was really noisy. Breakfast in the restaurant was quite good. Although we were quoted $15 each for breakfast in our booking confirmation, breakfast cost more than this.
Excellent location if you want to play golf. Excellent water views over golf course. Bar and bistro facilities were good. Food well priced and good variety. Did not have breakfast as restaurant did not open until 7.30am. Could be earlier for guests who want to get away, maybe 7.09am.
This was a great stay. Twin Share accommodation, dined in the restaurant and have no complaints about the friendliness of staff, level of service, cleanliness of room or value for money. It was very convenient as the venue for a training workshop was onsite. The staff in the restaurant looked after us like VIPs. The rooms were surprisingly modern for an older gold club which accommodates the Best Western City Sands. Ocean view was worth the $10 extra. The property is close to Woolworths and McDonalds and a Coles Express. I found the venue value for money and will definitely stay here again. It is convenient, well priced and rooms are well appointed.
Fantastic location. 2 min stroll to the beach and 5 mins to numerous restaurants. 5 mins to Wollongong city. Rooms were great but air con was located in living room which made the rooms were stuffy. Had the open the room balcony glass doors to cool the rooms. The balcony was easily accessible from outside so not great to leave it open unsupervised. It is now winter imagine when it is summer. The king bed room's ensuite is catered for the physically challenged which was great and we ended up using the main bathroom however it was not to our liking(preference thingy). I am pretty sure not all ensuite bathrooms were similar but was not informed we were getting it. Hot water shower was also a problem where you had to wait a good minute before it turns hot. First 2 bedroom unit that does not have a TV in the main room. There was a 2% surcharge on the credit card which staff failed to mention otherwise would have paid in cash.
This is the first time I've given a negative review of accommodation on TripAdvisor or any other site. We travel often to Wollongong and have tried a variety of accommodation - hotels, motels, short term apartment rental etc. - in this city. After reading other reviews and seeing the ratings we decided to try Best Western City Sands. We were surprised and disappointed by what we found. I've tried to be brief and to the point: POSITIVES: Great location - views over golf course to sea are beautiful. Free parking. NEGATIVES: Checkin: Receptionist busy flirting with a colleague - ignored us. Only one plastic keycard for two people. Room: Very dated and drab decor - curtains constantly falling off hooks. Connecting door allows full sound penetration (perfectly distinct conversation and other noises) from adjacent room. Lighting terrible; dull low light - in bathroom not enough light to shave or apply makeup. Pillows old, lumpy, rock like. Blankets only - thin, old. Towels clean but small and thin. Black teabags only - requested green or herbal teabags, told by reception they are not offered. Told to buy green tea from restaurant. Room Service Food Menu: Very limited - requested food offered on restaurant menu. Told by one restaurant staff member that it wasn't available. Told by another we could choose anything from restaurant menu. We did, but weren't given what we ordered. Food plentiful but slow cooked beef very dry and stringy. Accommodation Rating: Why is this accommodation given a 4 star rating? In our experience of overseas and Australian accommodation, BW City Sands is NOT 4 star hotel accommodation. It is primarily a golf club offering accommodation, as distinct from a hotel. It offers sub standard service, rooms and food at inflated prices - this was the most expensive accommodation available in Wollongong for the dates of our stay.
Enjoyed my stay with friendly staff. Bistro pumped out good food. Room was clean and had plenty of space to spread out. Internet was a bit slow for streaming and the a/c heater sounded like a chainsaw.
One bedroom apartment, well appointed, extremely clean, and daily cleaned as well, all staff were extremely friendly, helpful and courteous, hats off to management for having great staff,so close to town, park car,and walk everywhere, very very impressed restuarant and bar on site....only downfall which is minor found lighting poor for reading of a night time or doing make up in bathroom going out to dinner..a minor thing,we were so impressed we have already rebooked
The property is located above the golf club, so there are excellent views and access to the club and restaurant, as well as access to play golf. The apartments are spacious and well equipped, with great views, especially over the golf course and ocean.
Was pleasantly surprised that this Best Western was part of the Wollongong Golf Course with its clubhouse onsite. My room had an ocean facing view with balcoy and overlooked the practice putting green and course. Rooms are quite spacious as was in a deluxe room with separate lounge/kitchen area. Bed quite comfortable but pillows were not the best and were a little pancake style or too hard. Overall though great outlook and customer service. Michael on reception was very welcoming and helpful to whatever needs I had and went out of his way to make sure my frequent Best Western privileges were honoured as no-one had noticed my status on booking.
Great place to stay. Very centrally located close to the heart of Wollongong. Good food downstairs. Right on the ocean with terrific views of the golf course. Wonderful walking tracks nearby. Great service.
Accommodation was great, and the staff and amenities were awesome. The room itself was set up very well with a bedroom of its own. separate lounge and a kitchenette, the balcony was huge with great views over the ocean and golf cause. The golf club underneath the rooms was excellent with the most friendliest staff ever, and the Illawarra stadium was only a short stroll away, awesome stay
Great location very close to beach and city. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room very spacious clean and most of all very quiet. The bed was sooooo unbelievably comfortable would definitely stay again.
Great location and close to amenities we needed. Its close to win stadium great position overlooking beach. Love the Gong always have and always will. People very friendly and willing to go the extra mile.
Plenty of room in a generously sized family 2 bedroom suite. Beds were comfy, plenty of spare blankets and a heater that warmed the apartment quickly. 2 huge bathrooms. Could easily stay here for a few days comfortably with a large family. Room was city side but lights at night were pretty so not having an ocean view was fine. Easy walking distance to local restaurants, grocery shop, cafes, beaches and park. Basic cooking equipment - microwave and small fridge. A toaster in room would have been awesome. We didn't eat any meals at the golf club so can't comment on quality of food. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again.
Great place to stay. Beds comfy. Could walk to town or free shuttle. Taxi $9 from centre. Large room (stayed in the two bedroom). Nice lounge to relax and have a drink at. Great value for us. Very helpful staff.
Enjoyed the outlook from the ocean room . Spacious and comfortable beds and comfortable setting. Enjoyed the in house dinning and bar staff making good cocktails. Quiet cosy rooms slept well on the queen size beds. Happy to stay there again.
This was my first stay at the Best Western City Sands, and I was pleasantly surprised by the value for money. The room was much larger than I expected and next time I stay, I'll make use of the extra space. The food from the brasserie was great and the views over the golf course and ocean were sensational.
I travel to Wollongong for business on a regular basis and thought I'd try this hotel for a change from the usual places I stay at. Upon arrival I was greeted by a grumpy lady at the desk that obviously didn't want to deal with me at all. After getting the key and going to my room I thought I'd have a shower, that lasted all of one minute before the drain backed up and started filling the bottom of the shower. When I sat down to relax and watch tv the people In the next room arrived and I could hear them talking which was louder than the sound on my Tv due to the interconnecting door between us, why they put us next to each other is far beyond me as the hotel was almost empty. So I sat in the bedroom and then when I thought I'd go to sleep i couldn't as they had put me in the room near the lift that was making all sorts of banging noises as it goes up and down. The location and parking is what drew me to stay here but I will definitely be going back to the usual places I stay while in The Wollongong area
This was a excellent choice for us. Part of the Wollongong golf club, the rooms were spacious, comfortable and well equiped. The bar and restaurant had great views over the golf course. A short walk to the beach and restaurants in the CBD this was a great location
A very nice motel close to the centre of Wollongong a beautiful view of the ocean and golf course. The room was excellent and the food in the dining room was great and affordable. The staff are always smiling and happy to help.
We stayed a Saturday night in a one bed apartment over looking the golf course and the ocean. The room has been refurbished and is very well appointed. We enjoyed watching the golfers tee off. Below on the first level is a great cafe and restaurant. On arrival we were met with a very friendly receptionist. Very comfortable digs and would have no hesitation in returning again. Within walking distance to restaurants and cafes.
This is a lovely place to stay; the rooms are spacious , comfortable and have great views of the ocean , beyond the golf course. The price is higher than many neighbouring places but it is superior accommodation. The person on the front desk was not the most hospitable but she was competent and bearable.
Ten of us visited for a golf trip. The large, apartment style rooms (separate bedroom and living areas) were large enough for pre dinner drinks for the lot of us in one room. Rooms had expansive views across the golf course to the beach, each with balconies. The kitchenette was only sparsely equipped - no cooking gear or even toaster, though enough glasses, cutlery and plates for takeaway if you want it. Friendly staff and plenty of parking (though in the open). Basic club style food, though fine and reasonably priced.
The hotel room was very spacious and modern. Parking on site was good. I had a lovely mountain view. There were plenty of facilities on site. I enjoyed being able to walk up the road to the busy restaraunt area.
Big spacious rooms. It a little dated inside however bed was comfortable and a top view overlooking the golf course was a bonus. Bedroom did not have a TV which seemed weird being it was a separate room to the lounge and had the space. Has a mini kitchenette but no toaster likely due to too many people burning their toast and setting off the fire alarms.
very clean and Quite also great walks along the beach front to light house spectacular sunrise while I was there . View from room was great also looked over the beautiful golf course to beach and second room had view to the mountains would prefer ocean room next visit
The accommodation is well situated in the city center, close to lots of restaurants and supermarkets. The ocean view rooms overlook Wollongong beach. Rooms were very clean. Free Wifi available but not very reliable. Would definitely recommend.
Very nice spacious hotel situated in a nice spot on the golf course with nice views of both the course and the beach. Free and easy to access parking was available. Super friendly and efficient staff on both check in and check out. Rooms are spacious and have everything required. Definitely recommend staying and we will be returning back in the future.
The 2-bedroom apartment that we got was just huge, probably the biggest one I've seen, and in addition to that it had a terrace. Each apartment consisted of 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a dinette with a dining table. The only thing I didn't like was the placement of an AC unit. It was in the living room right above the TV so the cold air was blowing right at us when we were sitting on a sofa and watching TV. And in order to keep a cool temperature in the bedrooms, we had to set AC in the living room at a low temperature and keep the bedroom doors open. Despite my displeasure of the AC unit placement, I'd still recommend staying at this hotel as it offers a great combination of space, comfortable beds, and a price you have to pay for all of that.
We had two rooms overlooking the golf course, with generous balconies. The rooms/suites are generally well-appointed with reasonable amenities, the only let-down was the toilet paper which must be the cheapest possible and the small size of the toiletries.. With plenty of parking, the location is perfect for accessing many restaurants (5-10 minutes away) and less than 5 minutes from the beach. On this occasion we didn't make use of the restaurant, so unable to comment. With only 20 rooms this is almost "boutique" accommodation. We found it nice and quiet, unlike other locations we have stayed not far away, but are unsure if this would be different when there is an event at WIN Stadium.
The rooms here are enormous, with separate kitchenette and dining area, sitting room, bedroom and extremely spacious bathroom. It is all very clean and well appointed, with the sitting and bedrooms having large sliding windows, which open for access to a sizable balcony, which overlooks part of the golf course and the ocean beyond. Leaving the bedroom window open allows sea air and ocean sounds into the room, particularly at night. Golf rounds are available to guests and there is a bar and well priced bistro on the building's first floor. The City Sands is close to good Wollongong restaurants and there is a popular Thai restaurant just a couple of minutes walk away. The staff at this place are genuinely very friendly and obliging to the extent that they go out of their way to please. I give an excellent mark for excellent value for money and service.
We decided to treat ouselves.Didnt know we would get a sea veiw room (with a seniors discount) Two rooms .Classic Kitchenette.Microwave, all crockery and glasses.WOnderful sea veiws , watched golfers. Quite peaceful comfortable.
The other night I stayed at the Best Western City Sands and it is a short walk to everything. My room was an ocean view room and it was huge. Awesome Comfortable bed , great view over the Golf coarse to the sea. You can take a nice walk along a coastal path to the lighthouse and beyond. Easy walk to restaurants but eating in the club is beautiful. Nice bistro with bar and pokies. Heaps of parking and if you like shopping it's a 5min walk to a truck load of shops. All in all a great place to stay
Great location, quiet and clean room which was basically furnished. Helpful desk staff. It's a little hard to find if your looking for a Best Western hotel. There's the road sign, but the building is labeled 'Golf Club' in three metre letters. After circling the car park we noticed the small, unlit Best Western sign on the facade. (not sure the problem other reviewers have with the $50 deposit on check in. It's only billed to the actual extent you use the mini bar or room service)
Visited wollongong for the weekend to attend an event, hotel is quite centrally located to the main part of wollongong, shame there is no assistance with luggage. Car park is is just one big carpark used by both hotel guests and the golfers playing at the course attached to this hotel. Room was clean and spacious, a few signs of wear and tear, air con was located only in the lounge part of the room and none in the bedroom, which meant that the bedroom was quite warm, spacious bathroom and good shower, reception staff not overly friendly or helpful to say the least.
Excellent location. Accommodation consists of living area, small kitchenette with microwave, separate bedroom and bathroom with walk in shower. The room we had did not have a bath. We had a room at the back overlooking the golf course and the beach. Large balcony but we had to ask for table and chairs to sit out on. Large car park with complimentary parking.
Would stay again without hesitation. Excellent courteous service, clean comfortable rooms. The motel is well located to shops (Aldi, Woolworths) and public transport. There is a free shuttle bus in front of the Council chambers in Burelli Street
Room is spacious and clean Staff are friendly and helpful I wouldn't call it a mountain view room but very nice none the less I suppose the greatest let down was international roast instant coffee. This needs to be looked at. I need a decent coffee in private of a morning before I surface. Surprised that not even a cheap no name coffee pod machine on offer in the room
I was here earlier this month and said I would definitely be back. So here I am now sitting in my lovely room writing this review. I did write a positive review after my last stay however it hasn't shown in the latest reviews?? I raved so much to my other half after my last stay about the stunning view over the golf course to the ocean. So I have brought him along to see for himself and he is thoroughly impressed. The receptionist was so lovely and welcoming, advising us on what to expect in Wollongong that day, Sunday. We were unaware before making the booking that we would see the Radiance of the Seas cruise ship sail passed the Hotel in full view of patrons and guests with a firework display as a great send off on its trip to Sydney. What a magnificent spectacle. There are other big ships passing by throughout the day to Port Kembla. I love this Hotel for all it has to offer. Spotlessly clean spacious quiet rooms with terrific views and very friendly, helpful and informative staff both in reception and Brasserie. Easy walk to the City Centre, WIN Stadium etc.
This hotel is located next to the golf course and if you book a room on the golf course side the views are outstanding. We saw a wedding on the course and the ocean is the backdrop. The room was well-equipped and modern with plenty of space in the lounge/kitchen area.
We arrived and were checked in but told the hotel holds $50 on a credit card for 'incidentals'. That was a first strike. We were not given any breakfast vouchers or informed about breakfast so I assumed it wasn't provided. We checked in, were sent up to the room which was full of cleaners. They rang reception to say they needed an extra 20 minutes. We had no choice but to leave our bags and so went off to have a drink. The golf club is lovely, beautiful views over the greens and to the ocean. We went back to the room, the plastic 'key' didn't work so it was back down the elevator where I was asked if I had used it properly and turned the door handle correctly. I do know how to open a door. It was replaced, door opened to a cleaned room but we had no time to spend on the enormous balcony as we had to get to the IPAC theatre. Came back after 6.00 to thumping loud music from the room next door. As it was 6pm we figured it would stop but by 8pm it was still going so we phoned reception who promised to send someone up. It was so loud it was like a nightclub. Unfortunately, this music started up again at 4.30am - just as loud. I immediately phoned 'reception' which was answered by an off-site security guard who appeared very reluctant to do anything about it. I stuffed tissues in my ears and tried to sleep. We had dinner in the golf club which was wonderful - great food and a substantial discount because we were hotel guests. Same with the drinks - a great discount. Anyway, back to the room, it apparently has Foxtel but none of the channels worked. The only light is glaring overhead lights - the room has no lamps which I found quite strange and made the room lack ambience. Towels were small and thin but the bathroom was large, water pressure excellent and hot water plentiful. We left early as we assumed there was no breakfast but on checking the receipt later I found we had a 'bed and breakfast package'. It would have been nice to have been told we were charged for that. As of today, my $50 for 'incidentals' is still not refunded. Overall a beautiful view but the noise from the room next door, lack of information from reception and drab room furnishings mean I probably won't return.
Awesome apartment at a great price with microwave , fridge , jug & toaster also coffee & tea facilities coffee & Tea provided , overlooking golf course & with a beach view as well from the balcony. The room has everything you need and is close to town to go shopping & with a great restaurant downstairs with room service available staff in all areas were very friendly & helpful. Cant wait to bring my hubby back so he can enjoy the golf & views too
This hotel was a complete surprise. The other hotels in the area are much more expensive, and not close to this standard. My room was actually a suite with a kitchenette, lounge room, balcony, separate bathroom, and separate bedroom. And the view is quite amazing overlooking the golf course and beach.
Overall a good standard. Clean room. Comfortable sofa bed w TV. Main Bedroom with ensuite. Tea coffee in small kitchen with fridge and microwave and dining table. Very Loud Doof Doof music playing til 12.30 am downstairs in the bar sounded like it was in the next room. Terrible for guests but I guess thats what you get when you book into a GOLF CLUB? Golf course is a Links style course on the sand belt. Looks good. My gripe (along with the late night metal concert) was when I booked direct on the phone direct, I was quoted $149 per night totalling $roughly $300. On arrival Im told $400 and $149 is only the 1st night and 2nd night is $249. Bit cheeky as I wrote it down and I know what was said. Staff simply but politely shrugged it off. Centralish location. Maccas and supermarket down the road 100 metres. Breakfast available in hotel as well as a bistro and bar. Next year I may look elsewhere simply because of my 2 gripes.
This is a great hotel for business and other travellers. The rooms are spacious, with separate a living area, balcony and kitchenette. All rooms overlook the golf course and face east to the ocean. Having a bistro with good meals at reasonable prices on the premises is very convenient.
We stayed here with a group of 3 families for a function being held at the golf club. It was fantastic- rooms are modern, clean and well equipped, and the view over to the ocean is beautiful. Would recommend it.
I stayed 1 night on a work trip in room 208. It was a mountain view 1 bedroom apartment (I didn't book the room so was expecting a studio, this was a pleasant surprise!). The apartment was modern and well appointed, my only downsides was the bedroom had no tv or air con (both were in the lounge area). The attached restaurant was nice and well priced. I will definitely be back, but will choose ocean view rooms in the future to make the most of the gorgeous location
As a family of 3 we spent a night at this hotel. It's a great place to stay with kid, but just at night time it was a hard to get into the place, one night was short and frustrating in such a great hotel. The hotel is small, but every thing they provide the guests exceeds our expectation, we enjoy its environment, accommodation, cleanness, scene, food and everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we asked for an earlier check-in in the early morning and an extra pillar, and they did it efficiently for us, we didn't need to wait as the hotels use to do. Food and service were great! The room was spacious and equipped with necessary electric appliance. The bed is big and comfortable. Bath-room is so big and shower floor is quite clean. Housekeeping work is great! And the noise insulation of the room is quite good and we enjoyed a sound sleep. And the internet is offered in the whole hotel free of charge without any limits, surfing speed is very quick. My daughter loved it very much. The hotel owns a great seaside scene, and the morning view gave us a deep impression. If you are GOLF fan, the Best Western will be a pleasant surprise to you!
Have to say it is a great location, good facilities, comfortable, with ample space, staff were very nice, food was good however they have a strange way with their payment system. Don't know if they made a mistake with the way they processed ours but they charge a bond, add it to your bill then charge again, only to refund at a later date which means you are out of pocket for the full amount until the refund is made.
I booked, They lost the booking. They told me they would get back tome. They didn't. I had to rebook. The end. We left something behind. I called to follow up. They said they would get back to me. They didn't.
We had a lovely stay the room was great value the food and beer was exceptional and well priced. All up it was a lovely stay and the room was extra clean almost walked through the windows as there wasn't a mark on them
We stayed here on Friday 17th June, really nice room with big balcony, can't forget the room with a view of golf course and ocean, will definitely stay here again, excellent value for money. If you have dinner at the golf club, you also get a discount for staying in the accommodation which is good. We had breakfast and couldn't finish the Pancake Stack. Always a good outlook at the golf club to sit back relax and enjoy the view.
My colleague and I were happy to share a two bedroom apartment. We opened the door to the apartment and it reeked of cigarette smoke. It was stale and foul. I went out to the balcony and the garden was littered with butts. So i went down stairs to advise them. The first thing the person did was deny it. I said it stinks and they should come up. They certainly didn't take me too seriously. I went up to the room and the next thing there was a knock with a young woman holding an ashtray. I asked her if she could smell the smoke and she said yes, it was terrible. I said i think the ashtray is a bit late. She went away then there was another knock, young lady with a can of Glen twenty. Was this for real. I hate that stuff. WE OPENED UP ALL THE WINDOWS AND DOORS. At no time was another room offered to us, nothing was offered to us, not even a reduced rate. Appalling. Obviously people smoke on the balcony with the doors open. I had suggested they get some ashtrays and the gardeners to clean up that poor looking garden bed. I'm sure it would have been good value for money, but i need to be able to sleep with clean air. Couldn't get past that or the poor reaction from the staff. Good spot.
We was presently surprised on the hotel on arrival its position was great the check in staff were very helpful despite a Telstra outage they checked us in early. The room was perfect and the view from the balcony was amazing over the course and the beach. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The only that we didn't enjoy was our dinner in the restaurant it was under cooked and not very well presented. Breakfast in the morning was great. Our round of golf was great and we will definitely be back
This is the 2nd time staying here and still a great place. Everything is in walking distance from the hotel. Great place to stay if you are a St George Illawarra fan, WIN Stadium is only a 2 minute walk.
Staff were nice and were accommodating throughout our stay. Didn't use the restaurant. Room was nice, walls are a little thin and could hear noise in the adjoining room. Fridge was very small for an apartment, couldn't fit much else but the items that were provided by the hotel. Only a microwave for cooking.
I stayed for 2 nights in a 1 bedroom apartment. The rooms were clean and tidy , great views of the ocean and golf course. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. It was very centrally located, walking distance to the main shopping areas and also the beach. My only regret...... I wish I brought my golf clubs!
We stayed on a Saturday night. We arrived early and booked in easy. We than went to the bar and sat outside and enjoyed the lovely ocean views with a glass of wine. Our room also had a lovely ocean room
Not a bad place to stay but the club should be catered more for the guests and not people walking in off the street, parking for the guests was non existent, we had to try to find parking in with the golf people
Better than expected apartment style accommodation in the Gong. The room had plenty of space with a full kitchen, dining area and lounge, and a large balcony overlooking the golf course and ocean. It was nice to hear the waves. This place was a hit with the golfers, who were up at 7am on the green. Convenient club, bar and restaurant downstairs.
we stumbled across this while googling to places to stay and I'm glad we did its a lovely little hotel at the golf club very clean and tidy and the staff at reception where lovely :) I didn't get the lady's name but she was working tues night 12/04/16 lol others where also nice but she was particully lovely.. . we had a 1 bed apartment for the 3 of us the sofa pulled out to make a little bed for our son :) but he ended up sleeping in the bed with us as it was plenty big enough
We stayed here for one night as part of our travels. Our room was facing the mountain and had a balcony but nowhere to actually sit out - no outside table or chairs? Otherwise the unit was well equipped with a separate bedroom and large en-suite. It was well located near to Aldi and restaurants. The young lady who checked us in did so very efficiently - a bit more "small talk" would have made us feel more welcome and maybe this will come with experience. However, the lady who checked us out in the morning did so in a very friendly manner and was a credit to the hotel! No problem in recommending this hotel.
we found this to be a very nice hotel with outstanding views across golf course to the ocean. centrally located close to cbd. amenities were all good (but no one is perfect!) and in need will come again. Thank you.
My stay was for two Nights. Apart from the very stained dining chairs, my stay was great. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Good size room with an amazing view. Quick room service and well priced food. Thankyou
Stayed in a one bedroom unit with water views. The apartment is a few blocks from aldi, nice restaurants, the beach and win stadium. The views are spectacular. The bathroom is also spacious. The unit had a sink, coffee, plates, cutleries & a mini bar. The toiletries were provided. The only downside is that there's no outdoor furniture on the balcony & the bed is a only a double.
The 1 bedroom apartment itself was quite clean and spacious and the bed was comfy. However the exterior of the building and corridors is very dated and smelly of 70s cigarette smoking days. We could not leave door open of balcony due to mosquitoes from nearby creek and no screen door. I also think the bedroom would be uncomfortably hot in summer with no air con and east facing. The exhaust fan in bathroom seems to operate continuously regardless of switching lights off. Overall it was a nice quiet spot easy walk to win stadium area a bit more of a hike to lighthouse and harbour. The beach directly outside hotel is very dangerous, unpatrolled and unswimmable. We did not eat at the restaurant or get room service do cannot comment on these aspects. International roast coffee in room was pretty awful. Would I stay again? Yes for a brief stop over not for a special occasion or luxury weekend. The photos are a little misleading when you drive up and see the exterior of the property it's quite a let down. But as I said the actual room is quite nice.
I stayed one night here. The view spectacular. I saw the sea and the golf course people up at 7am to play. The rooms smelt fresh and clean. I had my own private spa bath. The bed and pillows so comfy. The receptionist Tracey deserves a promotion. Very pleasant, efficient and professional. Thank you Tracey. And thank you Best Western for this wonderful night. As I haven't had a break like this in 18 years.
We had a quick trip to Wollongong to catch up with relatives. We looked at a couple of places from the outside and weer aiming for Adina Apartments but could not find a car park to enable us to book in. So we drove around and found the City Sands which was within walking distance of the main st and shopping area. We were allocated a room with an Ocean view. Very spacious room more like an apartment and with a balcony. Unfortunately our room did not have any outdoor seating but we still enjoyed standing on the balcony and looking at the view of the ocean and golfers trying hard to put that ball. We also enjoyed food in their restaurant. The down side like many motels is that there was no undercover car parks and I'm not sure if there was a security camera overlooking the car park which would have provided some peace of mind as a deterrent. I would stay here again. I would have liked a firmer pillow. There was a microwave, plates, cutlery etc. The hallway had been carpet cleaned but unfortunately no aired and thus there was a smell of dampness.
Excellent view of the Golf Course and the ocean. Walking distance to beach, restaurants and shopping. Nice large rooms and clean, although very small fridge that was not working too well, door handle almost falling off. Staff also very friendly and helpful. The only issue we had was the fire alarm went off for no reason in the middle of the night, causing full evacuation and we never received any apology or notification as to what happened from the Hotel.
Great location, friendly / helpful staff, clean and spacious rooms and good amenities. The view from the ocean view rooms was amazing. The mini bar had a great selection. The rooms are large and spacious. A very convenient, easy and enjoyable experience.
We booked this hotel for a short 2 day break at the end of a long touring holiday. It turned out to be just what we wanted. The hotel setting was lovely, our room over looked the golf course and sea and was very peaceful. The breakfast was excellent and worth the money.
Fab stay, staff friendly an helpful , food at party great, breakfast and lunch meals also delicious, Carpets did have some stains on it but this was my only negative observation. Thankyou for our great . Will go again to this gem, ??
The accommodation at the Best Western Wollongong is clean, modern and roomy. He had a lovely view of the golf course and ocean and the location is perfect. Walking distance to the beach, cafes and the stadium. A pathway runs from outside the golf club along Wollongong's beaches and was great for our morning run. We will definitely stay here again.
lovely family apartment, comfortable beds, very clean, very hot in afternoon in summer, air con needed to be on before occupancy, air con only in lounge area, bedrooms need fans for summer the heat in rooms made it an uncomfortable stay. Breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly and very helpful, enjoyed our stay (would ask for fan in bedroom next time)
I stayed at the Best Western overnight to catch up with a friend. The accommodation was very nice, clean, comfortable and quiet with exceptional views overlooking the golf course and beach. I had read previous reviews in regards to the view however did not expect the closeness of the golf course which was literally looking down from the third floor onto the grounds with a clear view of the golfers on the course which was a nice novelty. We found the staff at the café were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast provided a good choice on the menu and it was a nice area to sit and relax overlooking the golf course. The only part of the stay which was a let down was experienced when checking in. The lady on duty was unfriendly and appeared as if she was annoyed at having to greet a guest. However this was a very different experience the next day with a different lady on duty who was very friendly and made us feel welcome. A shame she was not the one to greet us on the first day. Whilst the accommodation is of a good standard and no complaints of the facilities it was not known when the hotel was booked that the access to the accommodation is through the same entry as the Golf Club itself, which was somewhat confusing when parking and establishing where the reception was located. However once all settled in it was a very good stay with no complaints. If you want a nice view and to be close to the beach this is a good place to stay.
About time Wollongong built a new & modern hotel like this one. Fantastic ocean views overlooking golf course. Large, modern, clean. Separate bedroom and adjoining en suite. No sheer curtain in lounge (although in bedroom) privacy issue - golfers below! Also no fly screen door. Dining chair material just starting to wear away - might need checking before it breaks apart. Safety issue: phone cord hung down in front of console causing trip hazard. I positioned it behind console, housekeeper put it back in front. Restaurant: Chef forgot to put the salmon in my pasta. No apologies from waitress but said she would tell chef. I mentioned it to reception who were apologetic. Reception staff acknowledge everyone coming and going, always happy and helpful. TV defaulted to five sports stations every time I turned it on. Choose Source, then top choice (can't remember it's initials) & Okay to enable free tv channels. In-house guests receive members discount at restaurant and bar. Free on-site parking. Don't waste your time walking into the CBD for early breakfast (before 8:30am) as there's little choice. Dine at the hotel's restaurant instead or drive along Cliff Road (beachfront) and you might find a decent cafe.
Very nice location - golf club and beach. My room has a queen size bedroom. Bathroom is very clean. All furnished furniture. The fridge make noises sometimes at night. Very friendly and helpful services. Overall is pretty good. Recommend to stay.
We are at present at this hotel and after having stayed here a few times before we were really looking forward to it. The views are great overlooking the golf course and ocean. The beds are fairly comfortable but there is no safe in the room and we can't lock the balcony doors, the bedside light needs a new bulb and the toilet roll holder is broken and we have no toaster, I think we seem to have the room that has been forgotten! The guest laundry is out of action due to a broken part which isn't very helpful after travelling for nearly a week but said I could send it to the laundry at a cost which I really think is outrageous.. The staff are ok. There is a restaurant where again the food is average.
To be honest when I arrived I was thrown. The hotel entrance is the entrance to the Golf Club. You register at the club's sign on desk. Meals are in the club's restaurant. The hallways outside the rooms, which were above the main restaurant, were like a sauna. But it was quiet. When I opened the door to my room I was very happy. The large rooms to the ocean had beautiful views out over the golf course to the ocean which was only about 200m away. A balcony with chairs with access from both the lounge area and separate bedroom. Table and four chairs, a kitchenette with microwave. The air conditioner worked well but only while your key was in the slot. I only had a single key, not sure if a second would have been made available. Only negative was only cheap black teabags and coffee sachets were provided. I thought for the price of the room perhaps something a little nicer could have provided. Nonetheless, a very comfortable stay.
When we stayed there recently we were very satisfied with the hotel. Everything was great and clean. We were very happy with the breakfast in particular We would definitely be happy to stay again in the future
If you want a hotel with amazing views over golf course and ocean ,close to everything in Wollongong .Walks along ocean pathway ,close to Win Stadium for football matches .Great service and food available then stay here .Free Onsite parking
Large and spacious rooms, nice walk down to the beach, staff friendly and efficient. The club itself is nothing special, a little dated and tacky. I chose my meals elsewhere away from the pokies and pensioners.
Good location, we were offered a upgrade, nice size room, clean and comfortable, the only issue is parking, so ring ahead before your booking, as they have limited spots, you can also use Goulburn Street parking $20.00 for the weekend.
A comfortable, clean and perfectly acceptable hotel for an overnight stay. Even better if you want a round of golf by the coast. We paid a little extra for an ocean view room, definitely worth it; spacious, with a comfortable bed, large balcony and lovely views of the coast looking North. Unfortunately the southerly view was not so great as Port Kembla and the steelworks are just down the coast. Great location for a Wollongong overnighter all the same. Nothing fancy, pretty standard Best Western Hotel, but good value for money. Restaurant was lovely. A good menu at a fair price. The staff were really friendly, always happy to help and we were greeted with lovely smiley faces by the two receptionists we met.
Only stayed one night and played golf. It's a very good course , easy walking and some great beach and ocean views. Alos central to entertainment and sports venues . The food in the bistro at dinner and breakfast was very good. The tip was to go for the blackboard specials and it was spot on.
Huge room, with a kitchen, large bathroom, separate bedroom. Big balcony. Not high rise. Fabulous location overlooking golf course, stones throw to the beach which you can see. Short stroll to restaurant precinct and shopping centre.plenty of space.
We were very surprised with how nice this place was. The location was perfect. The staff were really nice, especially Tracey from reception who was very friendly & helpful. We stayed in a one bedroom ocean view room & could not fault anything about the room. The balcony view over the golf course & ocean was amazing. The bed was comfortable & the room amenities were great. We have even requested the same room for when we stay again. We had breakfast in the restaurant and it was very delicious. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Had a nice stay, played golf one day but couldn't play competition golf with ladies which I like to do when travelling around. Nice location close to beach but not patrolled. Room was clean but need toaster or some more appliances in room.
Professional friendly and helpful reception staff. The sofa bed was already made up inside the sofa so we could use it as a sofa until bedtime. Reception lent me scissors without any fuss. It was nice to go to sleep to the sound of the ocean. The east-facing room was a bit hot in the morning but the aircon fixed that.
Stayed for one night in mountain view room. Quiet. No furniture on balcony was a bit odd. If you can afford it, a golf course room would have great views. Dining room in clubhouse has lovely outlook for breakfast. Close to beach and city.
Excellent Customer Service from the Reception to the Restaurant made this a very pleasant and relaxing week away for us. The Restaurant serves good sized meals for a decent price, and the breakfasts really set you up for the day. The staff really are fantastic - well done !
My husband and I booked two rooms for ourselves and my mother in law. The hotel telephoned the day before to check that it wasn't an anomaly with two rooms booked under the same name. That was good they checked - it would have been even better had they suggested an interconnecting room but we weren't given that option (granted I know they were busy and perhaps there wasn't one available but it would have made more sense as we were travelling together). Having stayed here many times before (but not for a few years now) we were pleased to see that the rooms were still clean and reasonably well maintained but when we returned to the room late on Christmas eve it was infested by mosquitoes. I would have killed about 30 huge mozzies before we went to bed. In the morning I killed at least another ten and woke up with bites too. There was no spray in the room and we hadn't left any doors open and didn't open any up when we arrived. The airconditioning was so noisy it sounded like a jet engine kicking in each time it came on. We had a continental breakfast included but shouldn't have bothered as there was no toaster in the room to toast the bread and it was not good value at $15 a head. Overall, it's still an okay hotel but we won't be rushing back.
3 rd floor room great. Overlooking the ocean is worth the extra. Definately need the air con 1st thing but the afternoon is fabulous even on a hot day. Close to shops and some lively restaurants Close to entertainment centre. Walking or bike track right there
Stayed for NYE and was very surprised upon entry to the room- did not expect it to be so spacious! The room was very clean and the service was fantastic as any questions and problems we had were answered/fixed immediately. The cafe at the hotel is also very nice, New Year's Day pancakes were very satisfying. The only issue (not major) was the cable tv quality was poor and fuzzy due to a cable being broken however we bought a PlayStation for movies so it didn't affect us. I would 100% stay here again for a stay in Wollongong !
Excellent room with a view of the golf course and sea Friendly helpful staff Amenities met expectation Easy parking facilities and no cost to hotel residents Could have had a gym in the hotel Poker machines in the bar area not ideal
The Reception staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was a very good size, with a large bathroom which had a good supply of towels and toiletries, also a comfortable lounge/dining/kitchen area and a large bedroom with and extremely comfortable bed. The kitchen had a good range of appliances, although we did not need to use them.
We loved it there, we arrived early but the staff still went out of their way to ensure we got our room ASAP. We will dei itself be back they have everything there that is needed and the hotel is close to everything local
Only here for business for a couple of days but certainly enjoyed the experience of my stay at City Sands. Great location right next to the beach and only a short distance to shops, restaurants etc. Nice restaurant with good value meals that is part of the golf club.
Great location next to beach and golf course. Short walk to restaurants, Crown St and Steelers ground/club. Wanted a twin room but not available so had to use fold out couch which did not fir easily across the room so had to turn it around
A lovely hotel right on Wollongong Golf course. Beautiful view over the course with the ocean in the background. The room was a good size and very comfortable. The club restaurant with its large balcony is a great place for a meal.
Excellent overnight stay. Large comfortable room. Especially enjoyed the friendly and casual cafe/deck. Wonderful place for drinks/meals while enjoying fabulous views over golf course and ocean. Would stay here again on next trip to Wollongong.
Friendly welcome, very Nice room. Everything was more than GOOD. the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, it was just good value for your money. Paid AUD 149 for a Suite! What more could you wish for!
We arrived late to the Hotel and even though I had phoned ahead to let reception know we still had to sit in the car park and wait almost an hour for security to let us in. By this time it was after 11pm and we were pretty much over it. The security guy did not do anything more than sign us in and hand us a key. It all seemed like too much of a bother. He just wanted to get back to his girlfriend in the car.
This hotel was well located overlooking the sea and the golf club. Great bistro for dinner or lunch. Didn't do breakfast. Could have done with some more spare blankets in the room. Tge room I booked was a suite with a separate room for the sofa bed! In affect a 2 bedroom suite. The only negative I had was that the green keepers start mowing the golf club lawn when the sun rises which is fine if you're an early riser and love sunrises and the sound of lawn mowers! Otherwise a very nice stay.
Stayed in a ocean/golf course view apartment. Fantastic as usual. Great location also. Close to everything. Highly recommend a stay here. Will be back again. The breakfast was amazing also with beautiful views over the golf course and ocean.
Great location for both shopping and leisure. The views from the rooms are fantastic, especially if you get an ocean view plus overlooking the golf course. Price is better than expected and the rooms are very spacious.
Exceeded our expectations. Floor staff were helpful, attentive and courteous. Big and clean room. Highly recommended for golfers, beautiful layout along the coast line. Affordable, quality lunch specials for golfers. Good view from the club house and nice bar.
The Best Western City Sands is a smallish hotel with 20 rooms, most of them one bedroom accommodations, which is a perfect size for a small family of four. We stayed in room 209, a one bedroom unit with a queen bed and a sofa bed in the lounge room. It has a small kitchenette and one bathroom which were clean and presentable. We had the mountain (or escarpment) view and had plenty of privacy despite the taller apartments next door. The location is great because it's literally next to the beach which is beautiful. If you're an active person, this hotel is also a golf club with golf course, and there is a walking/cycling track that follows the beach. The hotel is within walking distance to Wollongong CBD, McDonalds, Woolworths, Aldi's and a few pubs, but is just outside the CBD which makes for quiet nights. This hotel is a great mid-range hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious, but not luxurious. The bathroom was renovated and good to use, but could have had better lighting. The mini bar was well stocked and prices weren't outrageous, only slightly more expensive than the supermarket. There are washers and dryers available for guests if you need it. The only room for improvement I could think of was to do with the air conditioner. There is only one air-con located in the lounge room, which was powered only when the key was in the slot. Since it was a hot the night we stayed, when we got back to the room late, it took a little longer for the air-conditioner to cool the lounge room and the bedroom. I would recommend this hotel, especially if you're looking for comfort and space for a reasonable price.
For the price this room was good value. When we arrived at 3pm the room was still being cleaned & took an extra 10mins before it was ready. After cleaning there was still a few scuff marks on some lounge room furniture. The Kitchen & bathroom were spotless. Bed was very comfortable & had quality linens. Overall a good stay. We ate in the attached restaurant downstairs & it was also excellent & good value.
Quiet and peaceful place i like the location and room view which is view the occion you can see the sunshine even when you want to get your breakfast the restrunt is stiil get same view also they give you a free lundury room and wifi
Typical Best Western accommodation. Clean, spacious, but with great views over Wollongong Golf Course & ocean. If I could be a little fussy. There was a musty damp odour. Having the golf club at your door was an added bonus. Would stay there again.
