We stayed at Vimmerby Stadshotel for two nights when visiting Astrid Lindgrens World. Staying in a building that appears in the Pippi movies, located in the town featured in the same series, was a nice experience for all of us. The hotel is nicely located at the town square, with lots of place for children to play and run. Parking was easy, in a garage nearby. It has a large wonderful terrace, where we had breakfast as well as dinner. The restaurant was too crowded and too small during breakfast hours, but the terrace had always plenty of seats. Nice and relaxing atmosphere in the restaurant and bar in the evening. The room was a bit small, but still OK.
The staff was wonderful. They were helpful, knowledgeable and prompt. The old hotel has been well modernized. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. The furnishings were quaint and interesting. We enjoyed the bar and the large restaurant. The food served in the restaurant was well presented and tasty,
Everything was good. I loved the breakfast, something for everyone. I missed a refrigerator, other than that everything was great. Nice people, Nice room and view. Could have more toiletpaper in the bathroom also, but we got more when we needed.
We visited Astrid Lindgren's World for the second time and chose this hotel because of the location - it is in the heart of Vimmerby. It is a really nice looking old school hotel with comfortable and clean rooms and great service. The breakfast was exceptional. If you come by car then there is no parking on site but public parking lots are not far. Recommended.
This hotel is located in the heart of Vimmerby. The rooms were very nice; clean and quiet. Parking is off site, but is an easy walk to the hotel. I didn't eat in their restaurant but it looked very nice too.
The visit was good, perfect location. Nice employees and a good service level. The rooms was good, clean and had comfortable beds. A bit hot in the hotel though. Good breakfast but the coffee could be better.
This is a fine place to stay with a very comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff, and a breakfast that is just unbelievable. The only difficulty is getting to the hotel since so many streets are one way or blocked and the GPS gets the directions wrong. But if you get here it is great.
The standard room was awful , it overlooked some abandoned furniture and was soulless, dark and tiny. My husband actually rang reception to upgrade my room as a present and it was lovely. The décor was very Peaky Blinders , the bed was comfy and it felt much fresher and airier than the dank single bedded monstrosity I had previously . When was the last time you saw a single bed without a headboard anywhere other than a hostel ? The staff were also friendly but varying in experience. The upgrade was actually a present from my husband, however I ended up paying for it myself as they charged my card instead of his , which my husband laughed about . Back to the service ...I called whilst parked outside to get directions to the free parking and I was told to find the local burger joint as they had 24 hour parking. I was not given an address to use with sat nav and had to find it myself. After dragging my heavy suitcase through town to the hotel, I then read a sign telling me that I can have free parking from the hotel across the street at co-op !. This means for the duration of my stay and not having to move my car after 24 hours . So I checked in , got my parking pass and moved my car to the hotels free car park, Very annoying after a long drive and traversing through snow showers on arrival. The other annoyance was being told the wrong time for breakfast, I arrived at 6.40am to be told that the restaurant was not opened until 7.30 , however some guests were eating early at 7 . I decided to wait until it was opened and realised that the receptionist was eating breakfast herself, whilst I sat waiting , undoubtedly from the restaurant At 7 I asked to enter the restaurant and along with another family had a pleasant enough experience. However, I had to find lots of forks myself to use for serving and placed them in the sauces, beet salads and other stations ...your welcome ! I also noticed that there were no cards to describe the food selection , which is unusual in a hotel at this price band. I had no cards or I might have helped them out with that too lol We have a great saying in Scotland " A fur coat and no knickers" which is what this hotel was sadly . The décor in the public spaces and superior rooms was Instagram ready , however the mixed service let the experience down . I have stayed in much simpler hotels that had a better overall experience on account of the customer care .
It's was a nice surprise, expected a bit runner down countryside hotel. But it was probably recently updated and gave a contemporary feel. The room was pretty standard but with a newly updated bathroom and psi t on the walls. The lobby and restaurant was nicely decorated and was welcoming together with the helpful staff. I would stay there again.
A really nice central located hotel. It seems like it has been recently renovated. Rooms are nice in decor, but still basic. Bathroom clean and sized properly. If you prefer a bath tub i am not sure they have ?! maybe only the suites. Breakfast is good and well looked after. Very good choice!
The place my Father would have wanted me to stay at in 'Wimmerby'. Stay here and you are in the middle of everything. As an extra bonus the service is excellent, beds extra nice and the room small (at least the one I got without reservation 10 minutes before closing time) but quiet sufficient. As it turn out I stayed an extra night and did some shopping and sightseeing, Per Sundin, Haverö Suéde
A one nighter at this establishment and what you might expect from a BW hotel. Located in central Vimmerby on the town square. We would rate this hotel a solid good. It handles overspill from Astrid Lindgens Warld and has the noise levels of a crèche. The rooms are small, but clean and well maintained. Relatively no-thrills stuff and border-line motel with wall mounted squeezey soap in the bathroom, minimally stocked mini bar etc. Decent breakfast buffet which is very busy.
We stayed here for 1 night, when visitint Astrid Lindgrens Värld. Hotel seems better than it is. Very small room and lot of noices coming from other rooms and outside. Breakfast was good and location in the city centre.
Nice rooms and good breakfast. Professional staff and great service. The only problem was the Restaurant who was fully booked and no service was offered even though there were plenty of empty tables that were available and never filled.
I have enjoyed a very lengthy stay at Best Western Vimmerby Stadshotell. The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. Restaurant and quality of food is top notch! The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Overall enjoyable stay!
The BW Stadshotell in Vimmerby is a great place to stay. The interior of the building has a bohemian type feel to it. It is a very nice hotel with the lobby, bar, and restaurant all interconnected in a very stylish way. The hotel has a very big open conference room that would give your business a great place to hold meetings at. Food at the restaurant was great and reasonably priced. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with the same stylish decor. The only downside for me was no gym located within the hotel. They do have an agreement with a gym close by but you will have to pay for a card to use it that will cost you 50 sek. With its central location I would recommend this as your first option if you are going to need a place in Vimmerby.
Me and my mother visited the hotel bar/restaurant for a glas of wine. Since we weren't eating we could grab a table on the outdoor terrass but had to order inside at the bar. The line at the bar was looong, the young crew seemed stressed, (this was during the high season and the small town is crowded of turists for the "Astrid Lindgren theme-park". I ordered a wine to my taste and the bartender asked me to wait, she had to send somebody to the vault. Fine, I waited. And I waited. Finnalt the bartender askes me to go sit down at the table. I payed and did so. After a while a very young waiter shows up telling us they are out of the wine I payed for, (which just happened to be the most expensive one), and asked me to pick another one. I thought it was a bit rude not to offer us some kind of compensation. When he returns with the wine he brought a small plate of peanuts for free. In my opinion that didn't quite make up for the cheaper wine and all the time we had to wait before getting anything att all!
The family high time was there, weather was so good as possible in Sweden that time of the year and everything was prepared for the joyful and fine dinner after name giving ceremony for a little princess.... Table for company of about 15 person was ordered at 18:00 and all food was ordered couple of days ago so that should not be problem for the kitchen or service personnel even the busy Saturday evening. After 45 minutes and many questions about drinks they start delivery of starters in variable ordening but it was entertaning time to see how personal of the restaurant taking care of their private problems with relatives and so on and think we were not the only company in this place!! Show must go on, so at least everybody got what ordered, couple of dishes were sended back to kitchen because some people really want that their food is warm and well prepared.... Not a % off, no excuses about waiting time no nothing...If you got meny like this with those prices, You need to delivery!! People are not stupid anymore and they want some value for their money!!! Pizzeria Palma, here we com next time in Vimmerby!!! ( Promise I waited for 48 hours before typing this to you folks)
The rooms were OK and also the breakfast. Make sure that you spend some time inside the hotel, at the fireplace or just walk around and look at the very special interior. Step outside and you are soon in the middle of a square and at this time of the year the Christmas fair.
Stayed in standard family room for 2 nights in July 2016. Free parking and walking distance to Astrid Lindgren's World. Room was obviously normally a standard double room with a king size bed with an additional bunk bed during the peak season to accomodate families visiting ALW. The room and bathroom was probably newly renovated, clean and tidy, but very cramped leaving almost no space for luggage. Free WiFi was very unstable. Breakfast buffet was good with constant refillings, but it was difficult to get seating. Poor service at dinner. We were declined twice due to waiting capacity even though the restaurant was less than half full with plenty of free table in- and outdoors. We were told to order room service at the bar, so we asked if we could take room service food outside to one of the many free tables at the terrace (it was a lovely sunny evening), but this was denied. We were only allowed to have our room service food at the small room (i.e. in bed). We had dinner elsewhere. It may seem as if this generally nice hotel wants to accommodate as many people as possible during the peak season, but capacity and service is being stretched too far.
The hotel room was nice and good spread on the breakfast buffet. However would definitely not suggest having a dinner at the hotel restaurants, although the food was good the service was very poor, we were waiting for 1 1/2 hour for our dinner to be served and in-between we had to make major efforts to actually get the chance to order drinks, once arrived the steak was welldone rather than medium/rare ... Offered to recook and arrived again welldone by when I was starving and just decided to eat it. Would suggest staying at the hotel but do save yourself the frustration and choose to have dinner outside on the square as there are other options
Upgraded since our last stay Jul 2013, nice and clean rooms, bathrooms newly renovated. The restaurant has surprisingly good food with limited menu with focus on high quality local produce. Breakfast also has also high quality food, e.g., freshly squeezed juice. Can really recommend it
The lounge area and restaurant are newly renovated and look fabulous. Breakfast was great and so was dinner. Staff is friendly. Our family room (Madicken) was very spacious with comfortable beds. Storage was however limited and the walls looked a bit empty. This gave the room a somewhat unfriendly character.
Clean comfortable, quiet room - exactly as I expected. What I hadn't expected was the high level of quality of the meals served. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Someone in the kitchen is exceptionally talented. I will return!
I was visiting this hotel in July. Yes, we were visiting Astrid Lindgrens World and this hotel is centrally located in Vimmerby just a few minutes drive from there. Check in was smooth and we received our key. Yes, key. Entered the room and it was obvious this was a double room which in which they had also place a bunk bed, making this the smallest room for four people I have ever visited. They do take advantage of summer, it is clear. The bathroom was ok, it had all the stuff we needed at least. The breakfast served was average but the service was below average. They try to make people come during two time slots but I do not know if they succeed. They had a hard time filling up the buffet when the people arrived and they also had a hard time removing the dishes when people left. We were lucky to get a table when we arrived though. All in all, I guess this can be a nice hotel during off season, during summertime I feel they squeeze in too much people. We arrived late and left early so I did not check out the surroundings. I bit pricy though. For the price I paid for one night in this room I spent two nights at another hotel in Jönköping and still had money left
I stayed there one night in a single room. Being a single room the size was ok. For work I Went down to the lobby area and had good internet access. This is really a family hotel though, I understood they had several family rooms or double rooms they modify to family rooms during summer. Rooms are Clean and tidy, a good 3 star standard. Small old TV, good internet speed. OK beds, bathrooms are of good size being a single room. Cleaning was good. The hotel has central location in Vimmerby which is a small Town. The reception is behind the bar so the entrance is really not from the front in the Square but behind it. Carrying luggage can be a bit challenging, as far as I noted! Stairs everywhere you enter! Also note that the offered parking is around 50 to 70 meters away with elevated street. So make sure to offload the luggage Before you park the car. The check in was smooth, note that all bills have to paid on spot, making the check out easier. The bar area is renovated, and a nice try to give an exclusive look of the hotel, a bit overkill perhaps looking at the room standards! Sitting inside is quite nice, but dont sit Close to the entrances as there will be alot of disturbance. Outdoor terrace is great but poor internet if you want to work. I loved the terrace, a shame that it was fully booked! And they dont spare any for the hotel guests! But in the end they managed to get us a table. The prices for the food and drinks are a bit over the top! The raw biff was good but the ingredience was as much as the half portion one!!! The signature cocktails are extremly expensive, SEK 175!!! The rooms are also pricy, I guess during summer season and amount of families visiting Astrid Lindgrens causes the hype. The employees, were of mixed standard. Some not interested at all, some had experience and did their work properly. The breakfast and lunch bufe are OK, nothing special. 3 star but priced for 4 star! As there are not many alternatives in Vimmerby, I guess I will return to the same hotel but my opinion is that the rooms, the food and Beverages are a bit to expensive for the offered standards.
Very expensive rooms (priced at same level as premium hotels in large cities) were you at least would expect filled up shampoo/soap dispensers in the room, but also above average selections at the breakfast buffet. This was however not the case! It is obvious that the hotel overcharges due to being located close to Astrid Lindgren's World and is not expecting revisits from its customers. You would also expect above average size rooms with what they charge but this was the smallest Room I've ever stayed at, also considering the high price.
Family hotel which was very busy with lots of children! Very friendly staff. reception very tired looking. Small room but clean and comfy, and probably recently refurbished. Wi-Fi free No safe Free parking close by. Located in middle of town. Ate dinner in hotel which was fine.
