Beautiful view and I'm happy about the experience also the early check in I was very impressed with the room also the beach view was the best the room was very clean and comfortable I would love to come and stay again with my family in the summer time
I really don't like to do reviews that are bad but this place was not up to the standards that a Best Western hotel should. First let's start with the price. I saw on line that the room for Sat night was on the high side 244.99 and for Sun night it was 139.99. I was charged $306 for Sat and for Sunday night the high side on line was $139.99 I was charged $158.00. Not only were the prices not the same online as when you called the place was old and had never been renovated. When my daughter was in the shower I flushed the toilet and she was scalded. I too was scalded when I was in the shower when I was in the shower. The room was advertised as an ocean view room which is false. The room overlooks Morro Bay which is not the ocean. The hotel on line is not depicted as it really is. It looks beautiful and it is far from that. The beds where uncomfortable, the sliding glass door would not lock. The only positive thing about the stay was the continental, it was good. I have talked with Stacy and asked her to match the prices that were advertised on line and she refused. Oh well, guess I will not be staying at any Best Western's any more.
Our room was fine, with a small balcony and a terrific view of the famous Morro Bay rock. The building seemed newer and was just a block from the main drag with all the stores and restaurants. Just an half hour drive up the coast to the Hearst Castle at San Simeon.
This is far and away the worst best western I've ever stayed at. Loud rude neighbors on both sides with paper thin walls. Breakfast was just gross and cold. The spa was just luke warm at best. Property is old and outdated, worn out and ever with. Not up to best western standards for sure. Never again at this property.
The hotel is comfortable, clean and is situated in a great location to access the bay, shops and restaurants. We rarely needed to use the car to drive anywhere, we always walked. We had an amazing view of the Morro rock as well. Breakfast was good and decent. Would stay there again on our next Morro Bay trip.
Front desk staff is very accommodating. Stacy was instrumental in our accommodation process. She has her customers best interest at heart ❤️ . Property is located within an easy walk to both the main shopping area aa well as the Embarcadero!
Hotel delivered on everything you'd expect. Really nice stay in Morro Bay, great to see the Sea otters and take boat trips in this small town. Pros Good sized rooms Free parking Free breakfast Lovely staff - shout out to Alyssa who was super lovely. Cons No safety deposit box No pool No baths Would stay again and would recommend to west cost travellers.
This small hotel provided a clean and comfortable room and had great service. While it has a few quirks, it is a great place to stay overall. The property layout was a bit unusual. The lobby is in a separate building, and all rooms are located in a three-story building across the parking lot. There are some outdoor parking spaces, but most of the parking consists of covered stalls. Keep in mind that it may fill up if the hotel is busy, but you may park on the street (which is in a safe neighborhood). The location is fantastic, within walking distance of almost any restaurant or shop in town. The lobby closes in the evening and opens at 7:30 am, but you can call for assistance if you arrive late. The staff are fantastic. The front desk agent who checked us in was incredibly welcoming and helpful. We were placed in a third floor room overlooking the town, harbor, and Morro Rock. Although the hotel does not offer full bay views, you can still see the water from the rooms. The room was small, especially for a large group, and the bathroom was extremely tight. (As an example, when sitting on the toilet, I leaned into the wall.) However, it appeared newly remodeled and was IMMACULATE. I never saw even the smallest trace of dirt here. The entire hotel is also maintained to perfection. They offer a complimentary wine reception in the lobby from 4-6 pm daily, which was a nice touch. The continental breakfast was very good and had a relatively diverse selection. This hotel does not have air conditioning in the rooms. Since Morro Bay does not get very warm, this is typical for hotels in the area. Overall, this was a great place to stay, and I would recommend it to anyone in need of lodging in this town. It is clean, comfortable, and well-located.
No A/C. Water temp fluctuating in shower. ANTS everywhere! There's a strange smell in the rooms. If you can't get the rooms facing the beach you get to see the next door neighbors and the neighborhood. Couldn't leave our slider open for any air flow.
The location is great, just a block or so from the ocean as well as many eateries and shops. The room was clean and comfortable. Both Alyssa and the morning desk clerk were courteous and accommodating. The housekeepers were friendly. We appreciated the in-room laminated guest directory, which is far easier than scanning a QR code and trying to read the information on a smartphone. We also liked the envelope which is expressly for the purpose of tipping the hard-working housekeepers. This is a common practice in some countries, and should be in the US. Read Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed for her experience as a motel housekeeper. The security peephole was at a height accessible to people who are shorter than 5 feet 9 inches (175 centimeters), which unfortunately is not the case at some hotels in the US and Canada. Breakfast was OK, as expected for this very basic level of Best Western, but it was disappointing that the omelettes contained bits of pork. There were huge slices of ham in the tray next to the omelettes, so pork-free eggs should be made available. Since omelette was the only egg choice, the only healthy hot option for us was oatmeal, which was good. At this very basic Best Western, the décor is plain and there is not even one grab bar in the shower stall. The office is closed from 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM, so if there is an urgent need, you must call the night manager who is in an undisclosed location. Also, during the desk clerk's dinner break, you will need to wait for at least 30 minutes; of course that is not the clerk's fault. The carpet cleaner has an overwhelming chemical odor which produced a headache and nausea even after less than a minute in the room; fortunately, we were able to switch to a room which also smelled of chemical cleaning products, but not as intensely. Because of the toxic smell, we left the window open and the large floor fan on for 5 hours. However, we had to close the window because the sea lions barked and seagulls cawed all night long. Even with the window closed, we found it difficult to sleep. Chemical cleaning product odor was also a problem in Garberville, California, which is the worst Best Western imaginable in numerous ways, not just the gag-inducing smell -– we were there about 6 years ago, and can see in the reviews that the same problems persist. Note to Best Western: Please use green cleaning products.
This is an exceptionally clean hotel. The staff is also so friendly and extremely helpful. We felt very comfortable and welcome. We also loved the breakfast. They had a selection of hot food and yogurts and cereals. They also server local coffee that we love. It's a great hotel and we will be staying again.
Can't say enough good things about this place. You can tell when a property is well managed, and this one is. Everything was super clean. Staff were friendly with no exceptions. Location close enough to the Embarcadero...and far enough away, too. Our room did not face the rock, but we still had a lot to see from our third-floor balcony. Breakfasts were diverse and tasty, there's something for everyone. Parking on-property felt absolutely secure. Jacuzzi was crystal clear. There's wine in the lobby from 4-6 p.m.. Rooms are big enough to not feel crowded. Nice to have chairs on the balcony. No A/C, but you don't need it here.
Great Location, love the covered parking, big room and lots of spots to lounge around. Super caring staff. The receptionist when checked in very sweet. Acknowledged being a Best Western member and made eye contact which nowadays is rare. Had a friend check in at another Hotel, told me the person didn't acknowledged him once. He felt like a number at the DMV. Great job Alyssa, she is a great addition to your establishment.
10/10 fabulous views and great hospitality, breakfast and wine. With in walking distance to just about everything whale watching food and coffee house. Definitely recommend 👌 👍 👏 😀 ☺️ 🙌 👌 👍 👏 😀 ☺️ 🙌 👌 👍 👏 😀 ☺️ 🙌 👌 👍 👏 😀 ☺️ 🙌 👌 👍 👏 😀 ☺️ 🙌 👌 👍 👏
Clean room, beautiful view. Great amenities from having a fridge and microwave to a very comfortable cot. Layout was sensible and efficient for a family. Room was spacious. Staff super friendly. Breakfast was delicious and had hot and cold options. Happy hour was nice to get a glass of wine. Very nice open areas and just all in all a great find for our stay.
Morro Bay is one of the nicest California shore towns, and it's so wonderful to have a fine hotel so close to the Embarcadero and the Morro Rock! The upgrade to ocean view, especially on the third floor, is worth every penny! And it's a Best Western to boot, which means great beds, comfortable rooms, and a Rewards system that really works and gets folks free nights rather quickly!
The hotel is in a great location! You can walk to the ocean within minutes. The sounds of sea lions can be heard from the rooms that face the ocean. I would highly recommend an ocean facing room! On a clear day you can see Morro Rock. They have a large hot tub, which is very nice. The hotel was clean and nice. The wine happy hour is a delightful treat. The breakfast had many options and was delicious. A great hotel to stay at! The front desk staff gave excellent recommendations on food and sea otter spotting areas!
I recommend this location to anybody looking for a clean and safe place to stay with your family or friends
We have been travelling for 3 months and stayed in approx 50-60 hotels/motels. This is by far the best hotel we have stayed in. Everything was perfect.
This was by far the worst bed I have ever tried to sleep in. I ended up sleeping on the floor. I wanted to like this hotel but if you can't get any rest then it just ruins your getaway. I paid with points so I wasn't really out any $.
It is always a great experience staying at this Best Western. Staff are amazing, rooms are clean, excellent breakfast, and a great location. You won't be disappointed staying at this Hotel. It is our 'go to' every time in the area.
Great place to stay. Safe area for parking. Great staff. Amazing breakfast choices. Not just muffins and bagels they have a full spread for breakfast. The staff is there making sure everything stays fresh and full. They had eggs and good quality bacon when we stayed. It was nice to take a little walk around town before and after our breakfast with coffee too. Comfortable room and bed. Nice view.
Friendly, accomodating staff. Clean rooms with an AMAZING view, and the location….A+! Literally a block away, in either direction, of stores, and restaurants. 5 minute drive, or 30 minute walk to the infamous ‘The Stacks and a Rock' too. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Thank you Best Western San Marcos.
Motel was OK for the low season price. We would maybe stay again but will check other options first. A wine and cheese reception was stated online. It consisted only of white wine and Cheese-its. No red wine so was a bit disappointing. Rooms were a little bit dated but OK Bathroom is quite small. The staff was friendly so we might stay again.
Cute hotel. Great staff. Please note--NO AIR CONDITIONER IN ROOMS. They just have a ceiling fan and portable box fan in the closet. Great location. My husband and I were down to see someone play at The Siren. We were able to walk there with no issues. We also were about to walk around town and get to all of the adorable shops in Morro Bay. We are definitely coming back and staying longer.
Very clean, pleasant helpful staff. Every room has a porch. If you want a harbor view request when you're making reservation. Breakfast option are quite good. On-site parking and like 2 blocks to downtown. And about 3 blocks to the harbor, you can park once and enjoy everything the town has to offer!
My daughter & I went for two nights. We really enjoyed our stay. Walking distance to the Embarcadero & town. Nice variety for breakfast. Wine tasting is the afternoon. Had a great time with Shelbi. She checked us in & also served the wine. She took care of the breakfast also. Such a nice person. Hopefully when you go she will be there. Looking forward to seeing her again on my next visit. You can't go wrong staying here. Enjoy!
I am here now on December 6. I am a Silver member. I was give an upgrade to a room with a view. They were painting the outside of the hotel and our view is of plastic on the window. Also the ceiling light wouldn't work. Also because of the painting there were not enough parking spaces. Room was clean but we can't see out of it. So annoying.
Nice room, awful shower, good breakfast, personable Shelbi, front desk, actually phoned us to find out when we were arriving so that she didn't go on a break at the same time! Very impressive! Cute little town, some really nice shops, and of course, U had to visit the rock!
Easy walk to the bay. Mostly covered parking. Electric car charger. Breakfast was decent. Good stopover alternative to pricier San Luis Obispo during Pacific Coast Highway drive. About 30 minutes to Hearst Castle. Dated but roomy. Arrived late after office was closed but receptionist came in about ten minutes to check me in.
Best thing about this hotel is the staff and location. Really overpriced for the quality of rooms, breakfast mediocre at best. Would not stay at this hotel again, and only booked based on BW membership and points. Much better alternatives available, we have visited Morro Bay many times in the past.
This was my second stay, and it was slightly better than the first. I returned because I always stay at Best Western, and this one is in a perfect location. Unfortunately, the staff here still doesn't care. They never welcomed us or gave us our complementary member water bottles. They cram so many guests into a 12x12 lobby for breakfast; it's an insult to the people staying here. You're welcomed to your room with a letter in all bold print telling you not to expect any housekeeping during your stay, and an envelope next to that where you're supposed to tip the maid who never comes! Genius! Leaky shower with water that oscillates between freezing and scalding, and still no air conditioning. On the plus side, rooms are spacious and well located.
Very accommodating staff. Offered free wine and snacks in the lobby. Very good breakfast in the morning. Our motel clerk Shelbi was very accommodating. We enjoyed some great complimentary snacks and wine in the evening in the lobby, as well as a very nice breakfast in the morning.
This hotel was in such a great location. Walking distance to the town and shops & restaurants. This hotel served an amazing breakfast with everything you could have wanted. The front desk person Shelby was amazing - very attentive to my needs. She made me feel like and welcome and valued guest. The room was clean, comfortable and had a wonderful view of Morro Rock. This is one of the best hotels of any brand I have ever stayed at for the value, customer service, breakfast and other amenities.
Terrible overnight experience at this hotel. We had a nice king-size bed but pillows were below regular size, more like infant-sized, 4 to the bed. Ridiculous! Dirty towels, dirty floor, smoked-in room caused us to cough half the night, due to the fact we are both allergic to cigarette smoke. Rooms advertised as "no smoking". Bathroom was the size of a cracker box, hot water turned to cold without warning during our showers. Nothing good to say by we two senior citizens.
This was our first stay at the San Marcos. It was a top-notch hotel, very clean and outstanding staff. From checkin to checkout, all the staffers proved to be an asset to this fine establishment. We will definitely return!!
This hotel has a perfect location. The view from the ocean facing rooms is fantastic. The room was clean and modern. The hotel staff is very accommodating. The free hot breakfast is nice. For Tesla owners, the free charging is very convenient. We travel to Morro Bay every year or so; we will definitely be staying at the BW San Marcos again.
the hotel is in an awesome location, yummy breakfast with lots of great choices, huge jacuzzi, clean, nice sized rooms, and a friendly staff. bed was super comfortable. what more could you want? so happy with our stay.
Loved the room other than the toilet location makes it hard for anyone over 5ft tall to use. Location was great close to everything. It offered breakfast but we didn't use it. Front desk staff were nice but not overly friendly to make you feel more comfortable.
The place was poorly run with terrible customer service. They are so rude and act as if you are inconveniencing them when you check in. The room was filled with ants and smelled like bug spray! Toilet didn't flush, no AC.
First stop on our vacation, A nice time at the hotel . i would stay there again and recommend the hotel to others. Great staff and a clean property with a great view of the ocean and a nice small town
Nice place, BUT, 2 of the 16, high $$$ ocean view rooms, DO NOT have the iron balcony rails shown in the pictures. They have solid parapet walls, that only provide a view if you stand up. Sitting in the provided chairs only gives you a minimal view of the rock. They acknowledged that I should have been told. I complained and after 2 days, was moved to a better view room. But, the room was on the very end of the building next to a electrical transformer, and the wifi signal was too low to work. A nice desk clerk came up and confirmed that the signal was erratic and low. I did appreciate her trying to help. So, nice place, but-----------
After a long day of travel, we arrived at Best Western in Morro Bay. We were greeted by the most courteous and professional individual who addressed our specific needs and had us settled very comfortably in our room in no time. A perfect ending after a long day of travel.
Close to everything-walking distance Ocean view balcony is great to enjoy sunset/sunrise. Large spa for end of sight seeing day. Morning breakfast and wine happy hour a nice added treat. Staff was helpful and welcoming.
Our stay at the hotel was pleasant. However, when I booked our reservations on their website for two nights from Sunday to Tuesday, I assume that I would be charged the same rate for both nights. Instead, I was charged $17 more for Monday, the second night. This different rate was not disclosed on the website when I made the reservations and I didn't realize the difference until I got the bill from the hotel. I complained to one of their customer service representatives, name "Kody" of Best Western headquarters, but did not get any satisfaction from him, except that he would relay my complaint to "whoever"??
The hotel in its self was loved, fantastic location. Parking wasn't a problem, rooms large enough for 4 adults, we had a wonderful view of Morro Rock. The thing I didn't like and would have changed my mind on booking, is this hotel isn't staffed 24hours a day. We didn't have issues but feel happier knowing there are always staff on hand. Breakfast was ok, very little seating, but you can take the food back to your room. The others in our group used the spa pool and said it was just way to hot to use comfortably and left after 10 mins.
First, the front desk is not located in the lobby which is very odd. We had to find a worker who showed us the front desk was outside of the lobby in another building. Next, the room view was great. However, when we went to bed we both felt like we were falling as both sides of th king size bed slant downward and the bed was the most uncomfortable bed in a hotel ever! The pillows were just as bad! Neither one of us slept! In the morning after a night of no sleep we went to brush our teeth and there were ants all over the sink area. We will never stay here again.
It was great clean, breakfast was hot and, fresh, cant wait to go back.ocean view so close to beach .very nice hot tub as well to sit and relax and enjoy it was everything and more!!! Great for kids to enjoy them selfs as well my teenage kids loved it too
Nice view, good decor, modern and open. Good service too. Parking is a bit tight so I wouldn't want to park a huge truck, but they do have some larger spaces. Front desk was super helpful and friendly.
We were locked out of our room and when we tried to get the night manager to help us she was with others smoking pot and told us it was harassing her to ask for help and she was going to call the police.
Have stayed once before. Like that the room door doesn't open to a street. Great location to Embarcadero with all the bars, restaurants and stores. Room is a reasonable size with most amenities (fridge, microwave etc). Definitely not sound proofed though - could clearly hear the conversation the people in the next room were having. Also, no a/c. My room faced east and was warm and I can imagine the rooms with a view facing west and the late afternoon sun probably get very warm!! Breakfast was not 5-star of course but a good selection is provided to start the day off well.
Receptionists never picks up the call. It took 2 hour to get someone picks up the p phone and the girl is very rude. Answering my question very shortly and hang up. I made reservation for a room facing the bay but she said they only have rooms facing houses. We discovered later they still have other rooms facing the bay.
No ac for starters it was hot. They accommodated for a mid travel trip plan kids got dropped off. No breakfast till 7:30 I work I leave at 6 other hotels offer breakfast by 5am Bayview room yes you could see morro Rock and the bay but it was not what I expected
We were right in the middle of everything. The hotel was wonderful, then staff beyond friendly/helpful and we could not have asked for a nicer stay. We will definitely return and would stay here again. Great value!
My wife and I stayed at the Best Western San Marcos Inn July 10 thru 13. We had the Deluxe King room and it was more than adequate for us as we really enjoyed this hotel and their very attentive staff. Our room was comfortable and big enough for the two of us. The daily breakfast that came with our room was delicious and filling. When we checked in at 3:00 pm the staff offers all guests complementary wine and coffee. The hotel is a very short walk of 2 blocks to the Moro Bay Ocean front dining and retail district. We definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet getaway to Moro Bay.
Amazing Customer Service. Continental breakfast was delicious. They offer a variety of wines. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. It's our favorite place to stay with an ocean view we highly recommend Best Western at San Marcos. Moro Bay California.
This is a poor hotel with poor staff, standards and experience for guests. It's location in Morro Bay is equalled by the lack of interest in tourists and tourist dollars. Yes we are recovering from the pandemic but literally everything closed at 7pm. Check was a delight (sarcasm) and the rooms perhaps 2 star standard. Parking the best bit.
While the location is great, the hotel itself is not. There is no air conditioning, and unless you pay for an ocean view, you'll be staring at the building next door. Breakfast looked nice, but it was so crowded we could barely get coffee. All bathrooms have a window that looks INSIDE the building, and you can hear people showering as you walk around. Rooms are dated, dingy, and dark. We never stopped hearing our upstairs neighbors just walking around. Topping it all off was a homophobic desk clerk who questioned whether my husband and I should really be sharing a king size bed. Sweetheart, this is California.
This hotel is nicely located within an easy stroll of all that quaint Morro Bay has to offer. Brewpub, restaurants, shops and the sea front are all close by. We could easily hear the sea lions from our room. We booked a balcony room with a view of the bay and the rock which was well worth the small extra cost. The rooms aren't the largest but are set around a nice atrium area where guests can stretch out. Wine is also available in the office each afternoon which was nice. Breakfast is in the usual limited motel self service style but it suited us just fine. We enjoyed our 2 night stay.
Morro Bay is a quaint little town, with soft hills, small shops, eateries, oceanside bars and the fresh seafood is just grand. Our room and balcony was perfectly located, so we could enjoy the Rock and Ocean by day, and the beautiful Sunset towards the evening. I sunk into my mattress, like a kangaroo in her pouch. Although the make-up light we too dim and the toilet area was a bit tight, it sufficed and we had a restful night.
We were in the lower end rooms and they faced the parking lot. How weird that the balcony was there over the parking lot. It was a contained space, hard to explain. The room was fine. The mini fridge was on a small ledge and unstable. We had a bottle of wine chilling in it and when we opened the fridge, the wine hit the floor and broke. Boo. It was quiet and we did not hear anyone else in the other rooms. It was clean. Everything worked and nothing gross was observed. We have dogs but we did not bring them so why stay in a doggie friendly hotel if you don't have your dogs. The breakfast was okay, the usual hotel breakfast fare. Fake eggs and muffins you can toast, waffle machine, etc. It is always nice to have a breakfast included. We would return but definitely spend the money to get the ocean view rooms.
This Best Western is located a few blocks from the waterfront, and a few blocks from Uptown shopping. Our room- 2 queens- was clean and private. Price was very reasonable. Breakfast is included, and is well stocked with a variety of hot and cold foods. No housekeeping during our 2-night stay. That was OK. Good sized TV, with large channel selection. Microwave and mini fridge. We will stay there again.
So, we stayed here for three nights in March 2022; since we are retired, we stayed during the week and not weekend. We requested a King ADA Access room which is located on the 2nd floor overlooking the office and parking but no bay view. If you want a bay view you will have to request a room facing the bay or sit on the comfortable bench which is placed in the front of the hotel that offers a perfect view of the bay. A good place to enjoy a good cup of coffee, made by BW staff. This was a special occasion for us as we were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet, no noise from people or other things. The staff is friendly and very helpful. And a talented group of people, who have the ability to constructively deal with all problems. Quickly and efficiently. As mentioned above, the hotel's coffee was outstanding, they contracted with a local vendor to supply them with coffee and tea: it is worth a stay here just to drink the coffee. The breakfast was under covid rules meaning that it was good but not home cooked. If you are spending a few days in Morro Bay, stay here you are close to everything: meaning you walk to the beach, restaurants, parks, whatever.
We stayed at Best Western San Marcos Inn overnight in May 2022. It was an ocean view room with 2 Queen beds. Room was fairly spacious, beds were well-made and the room came with standard amenities. My only complaint is the bathroom condiments like shampoo, conditioner and shower gel came in a big wall-mounted refillable containers that were hard to pump (the lid fell out a few times during my shower when I tried to get shower gel). Breakfast was plentiful, it included hardboiled eggs, bacon, scrambled eggs, pastries, breakfast wraps that you can microwave to heat up, selfmade waffles, yogurt and cereals. However, many of the pastries and cereals and the kid yogurt were loaded with sugar and carbs, and not suitable for those watching their weight or blood sugar.
A real gem. The staff are helpful and patient. Parking easy. Lobby beautiful and welcoming, calming fountain. Near the harbor, shops and restaurants. Room clean and beautifully decorated. Walk in Shower. Wish I could have stayed an entire week. Great value. Cute balcony with two chairs. Inside room entry doors, very safe and secure.
As the title suggests, our stay was very pleasant. The room was clean, we chose one with a balcony and view of the bay. Breakfast was nice. We didn't have much interaction with the staff but it all seemed great. We stayed on a Sunday night, not sure what difference it would make on a busy weekend.
Very nice facility, clean, look remodeled. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Room was comfortable, nicely laid out with frig and microwave, clean carpet. Again, room appeared to be remodeled, nice. I was on the second floor and there was a heavy walker above me, so third floor would be ideal.
Great service, nice breakfast selection, free parking There is an elevator and steps, so you can get exercise if you want. I did not use the spa, but having that option was a plus. Easy two block walk to the Embarcadero, which has a lot of shopping and dining selections.
Just spent 4 nights at the San Marcos. We have been staying here for the last 17 years every year and it was a joy to return post pandemic travel. We live only 2 hours away and like to drive here to hike the trails a few times a year. We were delighted to see new room decor, furniture , amenities extra towels , ceiling fan etc… Antoine at the front desk was excellent in arranging our stay and gave #1 service. We appreciate how the owners and management continue to improve each stay from year to year and also provided a special ‘Anniversay/65th Birthday welcome. The included breakfast selections are a welcomed start to the day. After miles of hiking, relaxing with a glass of wine in the reception area is an added touch that shows that the owners, management and staff care about their clients. As this is an older property with a covered atrium , we have learned to use our ‘quiet voices' as sounds and conversations do carry. The San Marcos sits higher up on the bluff one block back from the Embarcadero so we highly suggest to spend a bit more for a Bay View room. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you Best Western San Marcos . (The McD's )
This property had a great view of the Bay and walking distance to everything. The super large hot tub is a big plus with modern decoration in rooms. Breakfast is not offered until 7:30am so plan accordingly if you leave early.
This is our go to hotel in Morro Bay. Have been here many times overs the years. Rooms are large and very clean. Views are spectacular. Breakfast on this trip had bacon, sausage and eggs! We were surprised. Dining room was clean very bright in the mornin sun.
This is extremely out dated. Felt like it was going to fall apart at any moment. The bed felt like it was going to break. The shower handle felt like it was going to fall off. I was extremely disappointed with what we paid for it.
This has been our beach getaway for the past 20 years. The staff is always efficient and welcoming. The rooms are clean and attractive. They have a lovely spa that looks out over the coastline. A friendly wine hour in the late afternoon. The hotel is walking distance to the Embarcadero. It pretty much has everything we need for a sweet getaway from the hustle and bustle of life.
Very nice hotel with clean, attractive rooms. Most rooms have balconies with screen doors so you can get fresh air. (You will hear seagulls and sea lions but that is part of the charm). Huge TV, very comfortable matress, plus our king room had a nice table and two chairs. Very good lighting by sink. Toilet is a bit cramped, if you are tall your knees will hit the wall. Staff was great, everyone was masked up. Breakfast is available, and the host brewed me a fresh pot of decaf. Would definitely stay here again.
At check in staff said spa would close at 9:30 then at 8:30 I went to spa and same staff was locking spa. Staff said I would only have less than an hour so they were still closing spa as she had an emergency but later found out it was a scheduled appointment it would have been nice if staff had informed me that spa would be closed early at check in
Reception was awesome and quick. Stayed on 3rd floor with beautiful view of the harbor and met a few other guests for some wine. This was our second stay stay at this GW and will definitely stay here again in the future.
Love this hotel. It's so close to the water and to food. We have stayed here before, & decided to come back. I love the sound of the sea lions! The views are incredible! Great service, clean room, comfy bed, a microwave and fridge, a table to eat breakfast in the room... what more do you need?!
Pleasant stay with Morro Bay at the Best Western. Clean, Quiet, and conveniently located near shops and restaurants. I would reserve this hotel again and recommend it for your enjoyment. 5he view of the 25 million old rock structure is amazing.
The San Marcos Inn was a small but nicely appointed facility with a friendly staff and a great location. Close to the waterfront and wonderful restaurants, we would definitely visit again on our next trip to Morro Bay.
We stayed and loved the fog horn and the call of the sea lions! The hotel was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The walk-in shower had the high rainfall shower hear, which I personally love. A very delightful stay and a very pleasant staff at the front desk. Although no AC in the room, being so close to the water on a hill, we had a cool evening and night sleep.
Working out of town for several weeks. Wife and I ran over to the cost for some much needed rest, and relaxation. Friendly, professional staff. Clean, and comfortable rooms. Reasonable price. Nice view of the bay. We will definitely stay there again.
What Trip! We arrived in Morro Bay a few hours early, so we revisited favorite shops and restaurants. The pictures of the Rock and sea in the room set the mood. My wife wants the mattress! The hydropool spa worked out all our tensions, and it has a lift for transferring wheelchair-bound into the water!. When we needed directions for our side-trips, they were printed quickly. Staff listened to our stories with smiles. After the smoke from California fires, the sea air was a refreshing relief.
Good room for the price, but NO AC! The temp was fine for our stay in September, but we had to leave the window open and the seals calling in the harbor kept us up half the night until we put in earplugs. If you close the patio door, it's too stuffy. So bring earplugs and you'll be fine, as long as it's cooler. I did appreciate the product dispensers in the shower. Those tiny bottles are so wasteful.
We have stayed many many times. The rooms are large and very clean. Bed is super comfortable. Towels are large and soft. Our only complaint was the Direct TV box was attached to the wall crooked and not behind the TV. We looked at this black eyesore box for two days. Not very professional.
Overpriced for the accommodations! Heater buttons broken ( didn't need) only form of a/c or getting rid of the stuffiness of the room was a cheap box fan. Mold in the corner of the shower! Toilet was not secured properly to the floor!
This was the first time that I and my traveling party had ever been to Morro Bay, but color us impressed with this cool little town and this cool little lodging facility. We were greeted by a friendly and engaging registration agent and told that our room would be across the breezeway and up an elevator. What a pleasant surprise to find out, on our walk, that each floor offers an ample seating area in the main hall. You just don't find little touches like that in most places. Our actual room was large and well-appointed. We slept beautifully and were ready to explore the next day. But before we left, an old-fashioned Continental Breakfast buffet was there for us to enjoy. (By old-fashioned I mean what every place did before COVID-19.) Believe me when I say that this is a place to consider the next time you are along the Central Coast. I am far from an automatic 5-star kind of guy, but The Best Western Plus San Marcos Inn deserves all five.
The rooms have small balcony's enough room for two and you can either overlook the town or look out at Morro Rock. The room was clean and very quiet. It is also walking distance to shops. Can't wait to go there again.
Beautiful views, very close to all restaurants bars and excursions! Staff is amazing! Lizbeth, Lisa Antoine All very friendly~ Lisa was amazing. We received such a warm welcome from her..plus a glass of great wine at check in.
This is my first time staying at Best Western San Marcos when visiting Morro Bay. The hotel was clean and staff were friendly. I liked that is walking distance from shops, restaurants, and Embarcadero. I also enjoyed sitting at the balcony viewing the ocean. My issue with the hotel was that the restroom was very small. The room was updated, but the restroom was not. The shower needs to be upgraded and water pressure would switch from hot to cold at times without having to move the knob. Also the pillows were very uncomfortable, I should have brought my own pillow. Other than that, the hotel was nice and clean.
Our first time in Morro Bay. This hotel is in a great location. It is within walking distance to the pier and shops. The front desk staff was very friendly. The hotel was very clean and exceed my expectations! I loved the sitting areas throughout and the easy access to our room. Covered parking if you get a spot in time. The pool is extremely small so we did not use it but it was open.
We choose this hotel because it has a great view of the water and Morro Rock. The hotel isn't fancy but it's clean. My only complaint is the shower. It doesn't have enough water flow to properly rinse shampoo from your hair. We have stayed here 3 times and the service is great. They have the biggest spa I have ever seen. It was great.
This room was perfect. Beautiful photos of Morro Bay, a very comfy bed, balcony to sit outside, small table to have a snack, good water pressure, and really friendly staff. We booked one night, but decided to stay for a 2nd night! Loved it. We'll be going back! The entire town can hear the fog-horn, so just plan for that. It's not the hotel's fault, but if you struggle sleeping, keep the door closed or get earplugs. We enjoyed the ocean sounds!
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities we needed. Definitely upgrade your room to the bayside. Our room was on the 3rd floor and the sunset was beautiful. Perfect room for bringing in dinner since we weren't comfortable dining in a restaurant.
Staff was great. View of Morro Bay was awesome. Hotel is in a great spot and we had a great view. Best Western hotels have always been good to us. We never have any issues and will continue to stay with Best Western.
Highly recommend this hotel. Call and speak to the manager, she will try to give you a decent group rate, or reg rate if traveling alone. The grab bag food exceeded my expectations! Awesome experience!
Clean, but very spongey mattress, stained carpeting and holes in walls from previous mountings. Shower lip too low causing water spillage and toilet too close to the wall to sit properly esp if one was tall. Noisy seal barking prevented leaving sliding door open for air. Pricey king room fr the accomodations, although staff were very nice.
My room was clean as was the entire facility. Felt very safe especially with everything happening around the world these days. Very close to the waterfront with plenty of dining opportunities and shopping.
This hotel is in a perfect location for Morro Bay. Everything was better than we would have ever expected. Friendly Staff, good complimentary Breakfast (Covid edited) rooms were nice, clean and bigger than the normal. We stayed in a King Balcony. The bed was AMAZING! It looked to be an Eastern King which is a lot bigger than a normal. The best sleep we have had ever had in a hotel. Morro Rock was about a mile walk but plenty of parking if you want to drive to it. It was in the heart of the Embarcadero. Don't get to the hotel to early though as we did have to wait until 3pm (normal check in time) for our room to be ready. We wouldn't stay anywhere else when we go back.
Really pleased with the updated decor of this room. Decent sized room and somewhat separate bath area. Very clean and balcony was nice. Hotel was built above the parking stalls and there were doors in every parking area that housed 3 stalls, so there was always a door close by. Good value. 1 block from Embarcadero.
We stayed in an ocean view room for two nights. I must admit I was skeptical about paying extra for “ocean view” but it was worth it! The view from our little third floor balcony was fabulous. A great place to watch the sunset. I would rate this property as 5 stars if it weren't for housekeeping issues. The body soap container in the shower had not been filled and was virtually empty when the first one of us showered. Ok, we used a bar of soap. There was a very ugly stain on the carpet. Ok, we ignored it. More bothersome was the fact that the bathroom door did not latch. Nor would it stay closed in an unlatched state. The bathroom is so small that there really wasn't any choice but to use the toilet with the door open. Ok, we're married, but maybe not ok for friends traveling together? Sadly these types of housekeeping oversights cause us to doubt adherence to housekeeping protocols in general. If the housekeeping staff ignores these things, what else are do they ignore? All the same, the room appeared to be adequately clean and we felt safe. This is a nice motel in a great location. We'd stay here again.
Always great to have comfortable room with frig and microwave. Wifi worked fine for a zoom meeting my wife had. Had table to eat and study on. Free parking worked out well. Of course fine location. Good variety of offerings for breakfast we could take back to the room and eat there.
The hotel is older and may need a few touch ups but rooms are very clean snd sanitized. The views from the Ocean side rooms balconies cannot be beat. The staff is wonderful and so very helpful. The value is great especially midweek when we travel. This is our “go to” hotel in Morro Bay.
This is a beautiful hotel with views of Morro Boy. The staff is wonderful. The rooms clean and modern kept up immaculately. Breakfast is grab and go but considering the COVID environment it is excellent.
We like to stay in Best Westerns when possible .... those points really add up quickly for free nights. Most of their properties are pretty nice. San Marcos in Morro Bay is pleasant, but not one of our favorites. It is an older property and its age shows. The parking lot is challenging as the spaces are quite small. But not as small as the shower room! Yikes, there's barely enough room to drop a bar of soap! The staff is very pleasant and warmly greeted us, but there's not a lot to take us back to this hotel.
My wife and I try to stay at a Best Western hotel whenever we travel because the wheelchair accessible rooms always work well for me. There is ample space to move about the room, bed and bath. We also almost always find the hosts friendly and helpful for any needs we have. The BW San Marcos Inn is out go to hotel when in Morro Bay.
Best location because of easy walking access to shops and dinning. Great view of Morro Rock. Rates for value in this area were very amicable. Safe and easy access to all main roads. Be sure to have at least one meal at Dorns.
Overall the room was clean and basic. The front desk was not very friendly I would say maybe even curt when checking in. Maybe she had a bad day. However, the reason I am writing this review is because of the shower. The water pressure was so poor it hardly washed the soap off. Forget about washing your hair. The body wash dispenser gave you a teeny tiny bit of soap to match the trickle of water coming from the shower. I didn't feel clean. I would pick a different place to stay next time we are in town because of this issue.
We spent two nights here recently. The staff was very competent. Our room did not have an ocean view, but did have a small balcony overlooking what turned out to be the very noisy parking area. The building has an interior atrium, which is also pretty noisy. Shrieking children were the norm during our stay, and unless we sealed the doors and windows of the room, we could easily hear them. We like sleeping with the patio door open for the fresh air and our first night was spent listening to an earnest young man attempt to woo and elusive young woman. Very late in the night we heard someone retching off of a balcony. Perfectly comfortable room, other than the noise. Fast wifi, large selection of TV channels, close and walkable to the waterfront.
Absolutely disappointed. Hotel was not booked 100% capacity and yet they decided to give us a conjoined access room. Given the current covid 19 this should not have happened. Our sleep was disrupted by the room next door given that we could hear everything. Privacy was not included. I would have asked for a different room if I knew this was going to be an issue. I trusted them to take the right precautions and to provide us with a safe and comfortable stay, this was not the case. Choose a Different hotel
Front desk staff offered 40$ refund for dissatisfied service. Hotel was not 100% occupancy and put us in a conjoined access hotel room. Given the current situation with covid 19 this should never have happened. The noise level disrupted our sleep and privacy on our trip.
Perfect ocean front view. This room was clean, very quiet, walking distance to restaurants and shops. We love walking up in morning to the fresh ocean smell. I would definitely recommend to this hotel to others.
Absolutely a perfect place to stay. Close to the bay within walking distance. Walked to the stores and restaurants. Had a nice walk to the park nearby. Overall a little gem. I would recommend to anyone. Very clean and happy to see you staff.
Stayed for a couple days, close to the main streets. restaurants in walking distance. Breakfast was bagged bottled waters, apple and muffin which the muffin was fresh. The one thing that stood out was the manager who was very nice offering coffee and checking out guests. When my husband lost his ring and thought it might have fallen off the nightstand, the manager herself went to look for it and found it! She was kind to mail it back to us.
Very old hotel. Bathroom windows open up into hallway right outside the room . Anyone taking a shower could ALMOST be seen through the window. Old decor, rugs, rooms, etc. Even though the view was awesome, will not ever stay there again.
Nice and secure building in easy walking distance to water. Room was very clean and we slept soundly. Staff (Antwon) was super friendly and helpful. Bathroom is small as hotel is older. Rooms are accessed from inside the open lobby. Covered parking is available. A sack breakfast snack is provided (water, fruit, muffin) and there is wine in the evenings. We would stay here again.
I was so disappointed. The walls were paper thin, the shower bottom filled up with water, had to fix ourselves to take shower. Promised a discount. None was given! Would have been nice to tell us no spa before booking. Breakfast, not good
I stayed at the BW San Marcos Inn for one night. The front desk person did not care less if I stay at the hotel or not! No welcome greetings, or any nice word. On check out... No thank you or polite question about how was my stay... In this dreary COVID 19 times, I could have used some nice caring hotel staff services. The rooms are modest with minimal amenities. NO AIR CONDITION! The location is very good and the room I had had an ocean view and the Morro Rock view. Morro Bay has plenty of hotels to choose from. On my next visit I will look for another accomodations
We stayed at this best western May 2020. Our room was 217. We had a very nice view of morro rock. + Good view Good location Nice balcony Decent room Clean Comfy bed Heater worked well Nice lobby Fridge and micro Pleasant check in - Bathroom small Needed extra pillows Small parking spots
This property does not inform you upon booking about multiple things (which they should) and they still charge full price for their rooms! Not cool. -No continental breakfast -No wine/cheese hour -Their spa is completely closed I understand we are still under Covid-19 restrictions but this should have been mentioned!! Also- the walls are paper thin, we could hear our neighbors tv blasting all night, along with the foghorn and the seals. Don't expect to get a good nights sleep if you stay here. We were also shooed out in the morning before we were even ready! The hotel literally placed all of its guests in one corner so we could all hear each other- even though the property was basically empty. I would have chosen to stay somewhere else if I had known the above.
What a great place from which to see Morro Bay! EVERYTHING is within walking distance, from the State Park Marina to the Rock and its beaches! The motel has nice views of the bay and the Embarcadero and is convenient to all the restaurants and shops there! It's our chosen MB base. The beds are comfortable and always give us a good night's rest.
Great stay at this best Western I definitely will be coming back it's worth it! If you're in town don't miss out great view perfect location for family easy check in and surround it right in the heart of town less than five minutes away from the beach and beautiful sunsets
Wonderful place to stay. Close to the bay front which is nice for walking, restaurants, shops and sea lions...and sea otters! What a treat. The staff are so very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. I love being able to sleep with the balcony door open for the fresh sea air.
An average price for an average room. Bathroom was really cramp and there was some missing bits that were not dusted. My mom used to be a maid so she went around inspecting. It also looked like there was some mold in the bathroom. View was basically what I think I spent my money on. It was beautiful. The worst part was the bed. It's memory foam and killed my back. I have sciatica and so does my mom (she is disabled) and we had so much trouble sleeping. It would be fine if for the bed.
Booked for 1 night stayed 2 what a beautiful place to stay. Staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was great. Nice Breakfast and beautiful area. We had a lovely dinner at the waterfront area and enjoyed the wonderful little shops the area had to offer. Saw some great wild life Otters, Seals and a very cute squirrel. Would definitely return if given the chance I am sure there is so much more to see.
All of the employees were very friendly and most gracious. All rooms had balconies where you could sit. Walking distance to the main drag . We have stayed in several places in Morrow Bay over the years and this is our favorite!
The food was cafeteria food from a high school in the 80's that has never heard of nutrition. The bathroom sink had dirt in it. A lot! Filthy. Further about the food. Breakfast: Powdered eggs (or what tasted like powdered eggs); coffee was worse than airline food; waffle batter was cheap crap, 3-4 levels lower than Bisquick; overall not good. Don't waste your time.
Why is this not the first line of every review? I know we are by the ocean but it is a hotel and there is not much air flow. Room was too warm and stuffy for me to be comfortable. If it was really cheap, fine but was the same price as others with air conditioning. Definite deal breaker. Rooms feel really small but have everything including fridge, microwave, coffee. Bathroom is so small I can barely fit at 6' tall. No exhaust fan? A window that can be seen easily by people walking by. Staff is very friendly and service was good. Complimentary coffee all day, wine in the afternoon. Breakfast is standard eggs bacon, pastries, cereal, waffles. Good for free. Good location, quick walk to the bay. Easy to park. Overall it is average but I need a room that has a better layout and please some ventilation!
They were exceptional, quiet, and most of all a room facing the ocean. The wine, cheese, and crackers was an big plus with my husband and I. Oh the TV was huge in my book...yeah I will go back again..
Hotel generally was ok. Breakfast is good. Location is good. One point, that I wanted to make is to ask the management: please, explain Antwon that cheating and bullying people is not very good. In BW application there is no information about the deposit. He was lying into my face that there is (I showed him app and he told me, that the phrase "The payment for your stay will be charged to guarantee your reservation" means, that he will hold additional 50 bucks on my card. I told him repeatedly - I am not arguing about paying, I just want to be warned in advance. As a response to this, he told me, that "If I am not paying I will not stay here and this is not a problem for the hotel". I saw such a relation to the client first time in my life, honestly, and I am staying 75 nights a year in different hotels.
Hotel has been a second home for years, and is always a great stay. The Front Desk staff at this location are the best anywhere, and the Hotel is in a great location. Rooms have plenty of space and are always clean. This is an awesome Hotel, again, more than anything because of the Front Desk staff.
This was a nice basic property just two blocks from the Embarcadero. They have a small pool indoors, and a nice atrium layout. They have complementary breakfast including scones, yogurt, waffle maker, eggs, and breakfast meat and in addition to coffee and juices of course. Fresh fruit too. We had two queen beds for our family of four and it was just right for us. Always consistent among best westerns, and family friendly and accommodating.
First and foremost the staff at the San Marcos are beyond awesome and their suggestions are spot on. No matter the situation or question they make you feel like a valued individual. The location couldn't be more perfect and this hidden gem is our go to place from now on; so don't spread it around. We can't wait until our next trip to Central Coast for Morro Bay and the San Marcos is our home away from home.
Without question one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had! I commend the staff for being so welcoming & reassuring after a terrible experience with a different hotel. My lady and I thought our vacation was ruined! However any negative feelings we had were completely obliterated at our stay in your Hotel. It was perfect! Staff went above & beyond our expectations to make us feel at ease & very welcomed! Please reward them!! I HIGHLY recommend this Hotel and to anyone else reading this just know that you wont be disappointed! Thank you so much for such a pleasant stay!
Great location, very friendly and efficient staff. Within walking distance of Embarcadero and covered parking. Incredible large spa and well maintained rooms. Staff was very welcoming. A great place to stay.
It is the nicest hotel I have stay at for a while. Excellent service, cleanliness, and location. Room very clean, very quiet, location was excellent. Near restaurants, shops, and beach. Can walk to everything.
My family always stays at the BW San Marcos when we visit the central coast. This is a warm and cozy hotel that is located within an easy walk to Main Street, restaurants and the Embarcadero. You can't beat it! The staff here is always wonderful and very welcoming. The hotel is clean and some rooms have wonderful views of Morro Rock. It's like a second home for us. They also serve a very varied breakfast to start your day. Plenty to eat for every taste. This year they had some amazing pumpkin and maple pastries that had to be local and were perfect for a Fall breakfast. They also serve wine and cheese from 5-6pm. I had a small issue with my BW rewards program, but the GM, Stacey Richmond was fabulous! She rectified it without question and adamant in making it right for me! I look forward to many more years of staying at the San Marcos - thank you Stacey and staff!
I caution anyone making an on-line reservation at this location to either PRINT or SCREENSHOT the reservation details. This location switched our reservation without telling us. Unethical practices. I made a mid-week non-refundable reservation for a King with Ocean View. When we arrived to check in the room wasn't ready 'we were completely full last night'. Tired from travel we walked down to the wharf and return appx 45 min later. Room still not done. They take credit card, etc. and eventually send us to our room. It's not a King. Only now they explain -" oh your room had plumbing problems so we gave you what we have" - a crowded 2 queen room. WHY didn't they tell us earlier? They wanted to keep us from taking our business elsewhere. The temps were unseasonably hot and we didn't want to sleep in a queen without air conditioning - this hotel does not have AC. Frustrated we began to review our options when the front desk called and offered a King 'suite' with ocean view at another location, but not a BW. Exhausted, we acquiesced. The replacement was a disappointing uncomfortable outdated budget hotel. Bait and switch, unethical, non -transparent - call it what you will, but I caution you if you choose to make a reservation for this location.
Very nice location. We would have preferred an ocean view, because the view of the back looked directly into someones back yard. It was somewhat noisy and the bathroom windows opened up to the hallway, so you could hear all the conversations in the hallway. Funky design, but otherwise ok. No bugs or anythng like that
We spent two nights in this property externally the hotel has a moderately pleasant facade there is free parking . The reception is standard for this category of hotel checkin was very friendly as was checkout . The room on the second floor was a reasonable size but rather old fashioned and a little tired nevertheless it was presented in a clean condition as was the bathroom .Towel ,toiletries and linen were average quality , water pressure however was terrible and irritating. Sleep quality was good .There-is a complimentary breakfast which is a selection of packaged processed items including freeze dried scrambled eggs which are heated prior to serving In my opinion very unhealthy.location is excellent . In short as someone who travels worldwide six to eight months a year and is fortunate to usually stay in five star properties I was not expecting a lot and frankly I didn't get a lot the staff are charming the location is superb but the rest leaves a lot to be desired
My wife and I spent 3 nights here and were mostly happy with the experience. The location is close to the waterfront and the rooms on the water side have a nice view of Morro Rock. My only complaint was the beds were too hard and there was no comfortable chair or sofa in the room.
Charming hotel. Great ocean views for just a few dollars more. Easy walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. Nice breakfast with eggs, sausage, fruit and lots of pastries. Evening wine and cheese is a nice touch.
Hotel was in a great location near many shops and restaurants. Hotel staff was very helpful and courteous! The view was spectacular! It's the perfect getaway beach hotel. I will definitely come back and stay!
Well located with easy walking to restaurants and shops. Spacious clean room with balcony and wonderful view of Morro Rock. Seemed short on staff with front desk covering breakfast service. Housekeeping too was haphazard but didn't detract from enjoyment of three night stay. Would definitely stay again.
Wonderful location, a block away from lots of bars and restaurants. Older hotel but with very nice upgrades. King size bed very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again if spending time in Morro Bay.
My husband and I are here for our anniversary, this place is so beautiful to stay you can see Morro Rock a bay view window from the Hotel. They also serve wine, crackers and cheese between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm and serve breakfast every morning. What a wonderful place to stay.
This was a great hotel with beautiful ocean views, an amazing breakfast, friendly staff, and wine and cheese every evening! The rooms were clean, and the lobby was comfortable to hang out in. I'd definitely stay again.
This was just a 1 night stop off between San Francisco and LA, but really couldn't ask for more. There is a small car park, which is free. We checked in swiftly. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It had an in room free safe, microwave, fridge, hairdryer. Having a little balcony was a nice touch. We were a 2 minute walk from the water front and the rock. Amazing view at sunset. After we had eaten and had a few drinks in one of the restaurant we went back to the hotel to chill out in the hydrotherapy pool. Which was nice and clean. After a great nights sleep, but awake early with jet lag, I went for a walk around down the water front just after sunrise, it was so peaceful and relaxing watching the sea otters in their natural habitat. We then had breakfast, which was included in our stay, in the small hotel lobby. Toast, cereal, fruit, muffins, you can even make your own fresh waffles. Perfect nights stay!
It was a great trip to unwind & enjoy hot tub, deck view, and wonderful dinner at “Port House” restaurant. This place is close enough to walk to town shops, and right above free parking lot if driving.
Beautiful Hotel, easy walk to shopping district and morrow rock. Hospitality hour with wine tasting and cheese and crackers was nice. Indoor pool is awesome. Like a large hot tub you can swim in. Would definitely recommend.
We did receive an ocean view so that was the #1 positive about our visit. The beds were comfortable but the bathroom sink very low, and the bathroom with toilet and shower stall (no bathtub) was very small - definitely needs upgrading. The breakfast was okay - eggs, sausage, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, oatmeal packets.
Fresh, clean, comfortable, friendly service, great breakfast buffet everyday. Located near shops, restaurants, beaches and easy to find your way around town. Great value. Lots of cable TV channels. Easy parking for all.
Amber Clark and her staff were most helpful, especially regarding the reservations and check-in process. The location of the hotel was perfect for walking to restaurants and the wharf, parking was not an issue. The breakfast was OK, would have liked to have sausage gravy, but just me. Front desk staff were very helpful to my attendees and especially to our one handicapped member.
Location was great room OK but customer service WOW. Received a call around 9:30 pm from hotels front desk asking if we are smoking pot in our room at first thought it was a prank call so I hung up.Called the number back and it was the hotel so I informed them that we had been out for a few hour (dinner, drinks and conversation) and i was calling from a local watering hole and NO pot and we were nowhere near our room. Miffed and no follow up and we still love Morro Bay but the BEST WESTERN NOT !!!!!
We stayed two night, everything about this place we loved. Walking distance to waterfront restaurant and shops. Wine and cheese in the afternoon, wonderful breakfast. Staff was excellent. Will be back.
The property is older but in pretty good condition. The wings are joined by an overhead cover creating an atrium, complete with lounging furniture. The room's doors open into the atrium. Our room had a teeny little balcony with two chairs but no table. Our days always end with "fika", Danish loosely translated as "snack, tea, coffee, or drinks and quiet time or break". Covers just about anything regarding sitting down and relaxing with food and/or drink with friends, family or whomever. We travel with our little "kit", and were looking forward to sitting outside on the balcony with adult libations- but way too small. So we went outside our door into the atrium, plopped down on the comfy furniture and had our quiet hour. Really nice. As to the room itself, Trip Advisor lists AC. There isn't any. While Morro Bay is normally a cool damp and foggy place in the mornings, in the summer it can be hot and stuffy in the afternoons and evenings. We didn't feel comfortable sleeping with the balcony doors open all night (we're old and "anxious" about security), so we turned on the ceiling fan- it's one of those small diameter things that barely moves any air, and it's not located over the bed. Other than a somewhat hot night and hard getting to sleep, it's a nice, clean place with polite and anxious-to-please personnel. Parking can be an issue.
The Best Western San Marcos Inn is a pleasant surprise. The rooms, though small, were comfortable, clean, and well-supplied. We had a beautiful view of Morro Rock and the embarcadero from our window. Breakfast was good, and had plenty of choices. It was within walking distance to the embarcadero and downtown. I would definitely stay again!
Perfectly located hotel for a midway stop between SF and LA! Had all the amenities and facilities we required. Staff were friendly and the late afternoon complimentary cheese and wine were an added bonus!
This was just a stop over for us on our road trip and what a great find. When we arrived it was cheese and wine hour which was a nice surprise and they checked everyone was ok for a top up before taking it all away. Room was very large with a large shower and nice balcony. Very clean and had fridge, microwave, filter coffee machine and large TV. Nice and clean The staff were super helpful as one of our cases had broken and we needed to buy a new one so they researched some shops along our route and gave us a list to try, very kind of them. Breakfast was good with a waffle maker which my son loved and a nice choice of hot or cold, again with a choice of fresh coffee. The location was great too as it was a short walk to the front Recommend it
We stay for one night in this motel-style hotel in Morro Bay, during our roadtrip across the USA. The room was large and comfortable, and the girl at the registration office kind. I highly recommend it.
We wanted a cheap one night hotel stay on a Big Sur road trip so this seemed like a good choice as a stop just before Cambria. Hotels are very expensive around this area so this hotel in Morro Bay made a good choice. We arrived to a nice location, good parking and a friendly welcome. The hotel from the outside and the corridors feels like a fairly standard Best Western. Our initial room was at the back of the hotel and was large and basic but adjoined to another room. We aren't light sleepers but we knew we wouldn't sleep in the room we had been allocated as it was so noisy it felt like another family were at the end of the room! We asked to move rooms and were moved to the front of the hotel with no issues whatsoever. It was nice to have a quiet room but it also felt like a different hotel as we had a lovely view of Morro Bay. The room was again a basic BW standard room but with a balcony area which was small but lovely because of the view. The hotel is only a couple of minutes walk down a little hill to the shops and restaurants of Morro Bay so is in an ideal and scenic location. Breakfast the next day was free and a good standard BW selection. We had a really good value stay and it did the job but I'm not sure whether I'd stay again purely based on not being able to guarantee a good room allocation.
Nice location near the docks, easy walk to good restaurants. Easy access to highways, too. Room was nice, albeit a tad warm for us. Breakfast was very good, plenty of protein available. The downside was that it wasn't served until 7:30. We weren't in a hurry. Had a few issues with the refrigerator (full of water) but when plugged in it worked fine. The desk said that they were in the process of replacing them. Also, this was the first property I have stayed at that had tools and fluid to clean your car windows. Great addition.
A clean, well appointed room, just a couple of blocks inland from the shore. Had an ocean view king room, came with a balcony, great for watching the sunset. The room came with a microwave, coffeemaker, and fridge.
The staff was nice. We were very disappointed with the room. We could hear every thing going on in the adjoining rooms, talking, sneezing, babies crying and everything else. The mattress was lumpy too.
I am someone that doesn't look at a hotel room as just a place to sleep. I look at it as a place that can really enhance your overall experience in an area. This is our second stay at Best Western San Marcos - our first visit was a year ago. We come back for the great location, amenities, cleanliness and reasonable price. Hotel is just a block up the hill from the Embarcadero, and directly up the hill from the Flying Dutchman, our favorite Morro Bay restaurant. Half of the rooms have a bay view, and a lovely small patio with chairs to enjoy the view. Breakfast is fantastic- great continental selection including waffles, hot eggs and sausage. Love, love, love the wine and cheese happy hour!!! They shortened the “happy hour” from 2 hrs last year to 1 hour this year, but it's still nice to have. They also have board games to borrow and sparkling apple cider, so my daughter, hubby and I enjoy the happy hour together playing board games. We all look forward to it every year, and hope they keep the happy hour in the future! Lobby and common areas are nicely decorated, and clean. They have a lovely indoor heated spa (it's the size of a small pool), that my daughter likes to play in. They also have fitness bags to borrow, and a computer in the lobby my daughter used to play games. Friendly staff too!I love when a hotel has amenities and is a great location because it makes the trip so relaxing and fun. Like a home away from home. This is one of our favorite hotels we've ever stayed at! Just a note - the rooms have ceiling fans, but no coolers. The rooms get kind of warm and stuffy with the patio door shut, and I like to sleep in a cold room or I have trouble sleeping.
I stayed at the Best Western San Marcos in Morro Bay with my elderly mom who needs handicap accessibility. Our room was great, their was an elevator to the floor our room is on, convenient H.C. parking, the shower was an easy walk in shower...over all the room is comfortable, clean, great amenities, and a lovely view of the bay & Morro Rock. Outstanding complimentary happy hour & breakfast. This place is a real winner!
We arrived at night-time and while we appreciated the hotel's interior, it was until the morning light when we opened the drapes that we realized we were on the bay with a brilliant view of the Rock. Absolutely stunning. We could hear the sea lions. The waterfront is just a short walk down the hill. Well-worth the trek!
Took a chance when visiting CA to see Pacific. This charming Best Western had ocean/bay view, comfortable large room, small efficient shower and separate large vanity counter and a patio to enjoy the great view. Short walk to downtown restaurants and shops, great little maritime museum and easy ride to Morro Bay beach area. Nice wine and cheese your and never ending fruit bowl out front plus super staff made this a new favorite spot to visit.
Love Moro Bay, staying at BW Hotel made our getaway so stress free. Enjoyed the view to see the MoroBay Rock from our hotel balcony. Enjoyed the cheese and wine in the evening, nice meeting other couples from different cities.
My partner and I decided last minute to take a trip to Morro Bay. This was one of the best hotels with a vacancy. It was a nice hotel with pretty views of the beach and Morro Bay Rock. It was also very close to all the restaurants and pier. Really great place (clean, neat, and great free amenities)
My fiance and I stayed for a nights getaway and everything was just as we had hoped it would be. The staff was fantastic and the hotel room itself was extremely well kept with decor that perfectly matched the bay! We stayed in a king sized ocean view with a balcony and it was great to listen to the sea lions at night.
We arrived at the hotel without reservations. The Young Lady at the desk was very helpful and got us settled promptly. There was a complimentary wine and cheese reception hosted from 5-6 that afternoon that was extremely pleasant. It was a short walk to the local oceanfront with many dining options the the hotel had listed in a convenient book in the lobby. Breakfast in the morning was very nice with hot and cold options and excellent coffee. We were on our way with minimal fuss. A very pleasant stay.
We stayed here for two nights. Our room had a beautiful view of the rock and bay. I was able to walk everywhere easily. Bed and pillows were comfy. Everything else was more than adequate. Loved the location and view, and the sounds, as well as the feeling of being able to leave our sliding door open to heat the sounds and feel the breeze.
First time staying at Morro Bay and I believe this is a great hotel for price and location. Fabulous view of bay and Morro Rock. A few blocks from the bay shops and restaurants. Will definitely be go here !
I booked this hotel because it was close to the ocean and all of the shops. We were so impressed with this hotel. It was so clean, beds were comfortable, the free breakfast had a lot to choose from and the hot tub was so big. Our room had an ocean view and Morro Rock. It was only a 2 block walk from all of the shops. When we return to Morro Bay, we will definitely stay here again!
This hotel was a good stop along our trip on the coast line of California. Close to restaurants, the water front and easy walk to all. The room was large but the bed was a little rough. Covered parking was available and breakfast had ample choices.
Clean room with beautiful view! The bed was super comfy, room had microwave and fridge. Awesome complimentary wine and cheese between 5-6pm plus complimentary breakfast. I would recommend this to anyone. Would stay again!
I booked a room with a view and was not disappointed. Clean and very comfortable room. Most relaxing trip I have had in a few years. Is close to many amenities ranging from several restaurants and coffee houses to night life entertainment and shopping. Will definitely be returning.
This was our second visit. We were looking forward to the wine and cheese. It starts at 5pm and lasts an hour. I think 4pm would be a better time. But only one other couple came so it didn't make much difference. The service was excellent. The hot breakfast was better than I expected. We had an excellent room, the closest one to the rock. I think the mattress was a little soft because my back hurt while I was there. The front desk is closed from 11 to 7 am. I don't know if the is year round or not.
This is the most mediocre motel that I have stayed at in years. Morro Bay is a wonderful funky place. But it lacks any quality chain hotel. The motels are almost all pretty small, so economics does not help. This hotel closes its front desk from 11:00 pm to 7:30 a.m. Breakfast is not available until 7:30, although when we went at exactly 7:30 a.m., the office and breakfast did not open for at least five minutes after 7:30 a.m. The eggs were the same bland scrambled eggs three mornings in a row. The hotel is not a quiet place. It is weirdly designed with an atrium which reflects sound up to the rooms. Our first night they had a wine serving in the evening. When we got back from wildlife watching, the whole downstairs was filled with people drinking wine. Under the influence, they were all loud and the sound echoed up loudly to our room. Fortunately, it ended around 7:30 p.m. Sound travels well in this hotel. Every time someone flushes a toilet or takes a shower, the plumbing noise traveled to our room. Children running and children's voices echoed down to our room. The facility itself was fairly well maintained although one of the doors from parking into the hotel did not close.
Second time at this location. Hotel overlooks the harbor and the Rock, the exta for the view rooms is worth the expense. Room was very clean, a little bit worn but quite comfortable. Every staff encounter was pleasant and professional.
Arrived at hotel before 7pm after driving all day with a prepaid reservation. Nobody was at the hotel to check me in. Called Best Western and didn't even care about the location where I was waiting or my name. They said: Sorry and you will have to wait. They refused to cancel the reservation or let me talk to a manager. After one hour of waiting under the rain, Natalie the check in employee arrived. Didn't apologize or acknowledged the delay after I told her we were waiting for an hour. Just uttered “Credit Card and ID” and gave me the room key. That was all: zero concern about the horrible service. Las time at Best Western... and be careful. If they are not there to give you the room it's your fault.
The location is great and if you get a room with a view, the view can be rather spectacular. We stayed for a romantic week-end, visiting the nearby Hearst Castle and wineries. Unlike some other reviewers, we didn't notice any noise from other rooms, maybe because they weren't full. I always appreciate a sink outside the bathroom so one person can shave or do toiletries while the other showers. My main gripe was that the staff were nowhere to be seen much of the time. Around 9 AM there was not only no one at the front desk for 30 minutes (at least), but no sign saying when they expected to return, what to do if assistance was needed, and needless to say, breakfast items weren't replenished. Not cool. Internet service was pretty good. If you want to use a gym, the facility they contract with is over half a mile away.
We've been coming to the San Marcos for over 20 years and we always enjoy the view, the location close to the waterfront and the nice staff. They have made recent upgrades to the decor and amenities and have nice little details that we appreciate like the wine and cheese hour everyday and a good breakfast bar.
The breakfast was so so.. Our room was average the king bed was the worst and the walls were paper thin and there was no noise control. Our sheets were covered in we don't know believe it looked like someone wiped there but with the sheet and we did not notice till after check out!!!! Needless to say we will never stay there again nor would want no one else to experience such a disgusting and horrible stay ever!!!!!!
The continental breakfast made this hotel shine but that is all. The place is really old and needs new decor bad. The rooms smell and its just from the old bedding and stuff in the room. The staff is not to helpful and must be new, they don't go out of their way to help you. Would not recommend this hotel.
When travelling in areas I am not familiar with, I like to book in at hotel chains, so I know we will have a descent place to stay. This was a good choice. Our room was a bit older and dated decor, bathroom small, but the bed was very comfortable and we liked the balcony, even though our view was of the parking lot. Breakfast the next morning was adequate to get you going and staff friendly. Only real negative is the lack of parking, which could be a real problem for anyone with mobility issues. There is a great deal of on street parking, but limited close to the elevators. Great hotel and a great price in a charming little village half way between LA and SFO!!
Very nice and comfortable hotel: large rooms and clean. The bathroom is a bit small. Kind staff at the reception. Clear view on Morro Rock. The best is the little appetizer with good wine you can test in the evening.
This reviewer has been a regular guest at this hotel since 2003...and for good reasons, of course. In addition to competitive pricing, customer service is an equally if not more important factor when choosing your ideal accommodations. Location, cleanliness and covered parking are also part of a decision making process. All these criteria can continually be assured when staying at this hotel. The main reason for continuing satisfaction at this location is the company's recognition and nurturing of excellence in staff, with subsequent promotion of those employees practicing excellence at the workplace. Stacey, pictured, worked at the front desk in 2015 and has since earned the title of General Manager as of July 2018. Each visit, since 2003, has been very pleasant. Of course, things will go wrong and when they do, the problem disappears. This visit has been no exception! Mother Nature kicks in her two cents also...note the great sunset and cloud formations observed from the hotel property, not to mention Morro Bay Rock. Over one year, it has been observed the breakfast menu has improved with two hot protein items added and the ocean view Jacuzzi room 100% improved with new tile, windows and hot tub. Thanks to Stacey for leading the employees to give us visitors the best accommodations and atmosphere in Morro Bay.
We were not expecting this motel to be as nice as it turned out to be. It was just a block up from the bay, there seemed to be enough parking (EXCEPT HANDICAPPED PARKING) and the handicapped room was spacious enough for my cousin's wheelchair. The tub was ;low enough for her to get in,and worked just fine for me. We didn't try the breakfast, but I was able to get hot water for my tea, Filtered would have been better, but it worked. I would have liked air conditioning, but it was cool enough to sleep at night.
two night stay while meeting friends out of town, The Motel itself id older but has had a number of updates and is actually very nice in its own way. When the place was first built Im guessing it was open air in the center of the building since then they have roofed it and added a small business center along with a little more secure entries. They do have a happy hour serving wine and cheese it is basic bulk wines and store cheeses but it takes the edge off. The rooms are clean however the bed could have been a little more quality and pillows were limp. Water pressure was good and room had a microwave, small refrigerator and coffee pot, Much more then I can say when visiting some large facilities. when you are traveling you need these in the room. TV was good plenty of programs to watch. The room even supplied its own iron and hair drier which was nice. All rooms have a large slider one half the motel faces the Embarcadero the other half the city. either way fresh air and cool breeze coming in. Morning breakfast is supplied which includes waffles eggs sausage fruit and wonderful local made scones, which I was told by the baker who was delivering they only make for large facilities, I would have bought a box to go. Rooms rates are based on season and day, Came in on a Saturday which was over twice the amount I was charged on a Sunday night, but that's typical. The only down fall was the hot tub was being remodeled, which I was really looking forward to. You are one block to the water great views and very nice service.
We were traveling home after a family wedding at Huntington Beach. We chose not to make a reservation because we weren't sure where we would be. We arrived in Morro Bay and after driving around decided to see if the Best Western San Marcos Inn had any rooms available. We got lucky, not only did we get a king room but it was an ocean view!! After checking in, the desk clerk gave us several options for dinner.
We recently stayed and enjoyed our visit trendously. The kids were disappointed because the Jacuzzi was under construction. Which looks like it will be amazing. My husband and I enjoyed the wine and cheese our and it set the tone for the rest of our trip. We travel tobtge central coast often and this will be our go to. The staff was very sweet and helpful. Make sure to get a 2nd or 3d level sea view. Here are some pics from my balcony.
NIce, clean, easy. You can walk to the restaurants and to view the ROCK only a block from the Coast. Staff is very friendly and the hotel is clean and organized; They even have car-port parking. We were pleased with our stay. Highly recommend it if you are staying in Morro Beach.
I have stayed at a lot of Best Western's for both business and pleasure and I have to say this location was one of the best! When you stay in Morro Bay the highlight of the whole area is Morro Rock and I opened my balcony screen to see....you guessed it, Morro Rock just down Pacific Ave.....it was cool! The Inn itself is typical, nothing fancy but clean and roomy with a great view. Good breakfast and noon checkout is a real plus....definitely would stay here again if in the area.....!
Overall an excellent experience. The only issue is the place could use a fresh coat of paint. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was the usual BW buffet - scrambled eggs, waffles, pastries. Location is two blocks from the water and an easy walk to places to eat.
Very good location close to the harbor - two blocks away down a hill. Some interesting issues such as a "child's toilet" situated close to the floor and rather awkward for an adult. Shower head at the opposite end of the spectrum. Very high and reachable by someone at least 7-feet tall. I, at 5feet 6, could not touch it with arms fully extended. Two rather interesting extremes. Liquid soap dispensers in shower rather stingy and noisy. Bar soap never replaced during 4-night stay. Good morning breakfast but breakfast meats only provided two of four mornings. Attached picture of view from top floor room for those not on the bay side. Small, nice balcony and view not a problem for me. Covered parking. The "business center" is a desk with very slow computer in a wide spot on second floor. Nice B&W printer. They offer wine and cheese in the evening. This is nice if you can think of nothing else to do in this lovely holiday town. They do have a pool which was under repair when we were there. Don't know if inside or outside. Never saw it. No matter we would not have used it anyway.
This was a great little hotel in a pretty perfect location. Walking distance to the embarcadero, what more could you want!? The room was clean and roomy. The staff was friendly. We only stayed here for 1 night, so this was plenty for what we needed. The price was one of the most reasonable for the night we booked. Just a heads up, it didn't bother us much, but I know it will some. This hotel is 3 floors. So if you're not on the top floor, you will most likely here the people above you.
This is a funky little motel but fun. Get a reservation on the view side - walking distance to all restaurants and little shops. They serve a breakfast and a little wine hour in the evening. Small deck but big enough for two little chairs
First time here. This place is old, and feels old. We got a room with two queen beds, and it was tight Could not get around the bed to reach the heater control. Maybe this room should have had just one bed in it. The bathroom mirror was useless, but the hallway mirror had no light, strange design. The Wifi, was a hit and miss ordeal, it kept bumping me off, so I'd have to log back in, and when it was working it was very slow. The staff here was very nice, the rooms were clean, and there was lots of parking.
We spent 3 nights. Loved the location. Two blocks from the bay. Staff was great. Christina even turned on the juice machine so I could get a glass of OJ in the afternoon to take medication with. Acknowledged us as reward members with a small bag of goodies. Breakfast was decent with a few hot items, breads, cereal and a waffle machine as well as juice/coffee/milk/water. We had 2nd floor with a view. Had everything we needed in the room. We'd definitely stay at this location again.
Excellent location, had view room room which was nice and worth the upgrade, excellent caring staff, has limited covered parking with plenty of parking on street if needed. close to shops, bus, resuturants
Good hotel for a 1 night stopover just back from the main front. If you listen carefully you can hear the sea lions barking in the distance. Rooms were a good size and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was very basic but did the job and everyone we encountered were friendly and helpful
Great location, affordable, clean, and friendly staff. You can see the rock from the front of the hotel. All the staff was friendly. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was great and the complimentary cheese and wine in the evenings was a nice touch as well.
Front desk friendly and courteous. Parking was sufficient. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Breakfast typical of this category of hotels. Excellent location. The hotel shows its age. No air conditioner in our room; did need it when we were here. Only two outlets near work desk; was fine for overnight. Bed was not that comfortable. Room was clean. Nice balcony with two chairs.
We had originally intended to stay for 2 nights and extended to 5 due to business needs, The staff were very accomadating with the extension and did not need to move us. We liked the view of Morro Rock from our window too. The room was clean and the linens were clean. the motel is a little old but well kept.
Not bad...not great. We had an ocean view room. The room is pretty basic. It does come with a microwave, coffee pot, and a mini fridge. That's always a plus. The view of the rock from the balcony is really nice and relaxing too. They do need to update their rooms though, and add some better seating with a table on the balcony. The price for the weekend can be steep, so a little updating in the rooms would better match the price point for this hotel. On the upside, it's only two blocks from the Embarcadero, but then there are lots of hotels within walking distance.
Thank you to the person who checked us in and upgraded to ocean view! So clear and sunny. Great service, will definitely stay there again. Loved the hot tub very warm. Great breakfast, improved so much!
When I want to stop half way between LA and SF, I enjoy staying at the Best Western San Marcos Inn. I enjoy the ocean view and listening to the sea lions. I also enjoy going to the awesome steakhouse 2 blocks away called Dorn's.
This was my first time staying at this hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. Not a fancy hotel, but it was clean, well decorated, and great bedding. It looks better inside than outside. The only negative, are the walls are super thin and we could hear our neighbors. I loved the views from our balcony. We will be back!
View and location are fantastic. Enjoyed the lanai w/chairs. But room needs repair, reconfiguration +upgrading ( especially the beds). Breakfast so-so, coffee + complimentary soaps definitely so-so...Not worth the nearly $200 for a weekend night.
The staff was very friendly and shared recommendations for restaurants and local sights. The hotel was clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay again. The ocean views from the 3rd floor were great.
A perfect peaceful stay. Great town, great view... 3 stacks & a rock. Great people, great service, great price. What? Now the system is saying I gotta write more... What more is needed to be said? Loca!
I was wanting to do something special with my Mom and wanted to take her to Morro Bay. Decided to look for hotel with a swimming pool. This Hotel had a great Breakfast Buffet . Good location and it wasn't to hard to find.
stayed overnight on thursday 3/1/18. excellent location. had a very nice handicap-accessible room. it had all the conveniences, microwave, fridge, coffeepot, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, giant screen tv etc. super-comfy bed. spotlessly clean room and immaculate bathroom. good work desk. excellent wi-fi. elevator to upper floors. secure parking. nice neighborhood, quite safe. and the front desk staff incredibly nice, friendly, helpful. nice guest lounge on 2nd floor. i only gave it four stars because it isn't an expensive super-luxury hotel with all the amenities you expect at a ritz-carlton. but for its modest price, it is a real bargain and VERY nice!!!
We just stayed two days here 2/15 -2/17. I had previously stayed here in the 90's. Being a housekeeper for many years at big Hotels I am picky about my room, I looked for anything yukky and couldn't find it. We were in rm 321, so no ocean view, but the room was nice. Carpet nice ..no crud behind bed or nightstands, hairs, crumbs or dust. The bathroom window opens into the exterior hall, a little weird, but not terrible. The front desk area and lobby is very clean and pleasant, as well as the breakfast area. The exterior is clean and nice. It has an indoor spa nice but my one complaint..not hot enough..the trek back through the atrium and up to 3rd floor was a shivering experience lol. Nice place good price..just turn up the spa heat ;-))
This hotel was a short walk to the beach, so the location was perfect. The accommodations were fine...clean and comfortable but a little tired. The walls are really thin and all we could hear from very early morning was a crying baby next door. But there's not much that can be done about that. Breakfast was also average (stayed at a BW in Santa Barbara the night before and the breakfast was much much better). With that said, the price was right and the location we great and it fit our needs for a one night stay.
After a long day of traveling, I was a bit mentally foggy and was ready for a nap. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Angela, she had a wonderful smile, sunny personality and extremely knowledgeable and efficient. Most of all she was quite patience with me. We were given a room with a balcony which overlook the bay and Morro Rock. The hotel is one short block from the water. The room was clean and tidy and had a flat screen tv, mini-refrigerator, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, microwave, etc. The bed was quite comfortable and the neighborhood was quiet at night. We took a walk along the waterfront (one block away) and there were quite a few restaurants and shops. We mostly would stay here again when we're next in Morrow Bay.
We have been stying here for a number of years and always enjoyed until this stay. The staff was short and curt at check in and continued. Definite attitude in her demeanor. Also, just seemed like everything was lacking. Couldn't find the cheese tray for Happy hour. Wine offerings lacking, why don't you serve a red wine? Breakfast foods were empty, on and on. Just had stayed at BW in Santa Barbara on the beach and they had a full breakfast at a much better rate. Shower in our room outdated. Will stay in Cayucos at the good beach hotel there from now on. Good views, balcony and for sure a much better full breakfast, which you don't offer.
I had a 3rd floor ocean view room. The view is spectacular. The bed is comfortable. The internet worked flawlessly. The hotel is a block away from the bay, and restaurants. Quiet neighborhood at night. We stayed in December which is the tourist off season, meaning that it is quiet and peaceful in town. I love the quiet peaceful atmosphere in the winter.
I have stayed here twice now and have enjoyed this hotel with exception of the beds. It is centrally located in downtown Morro Bay near shops and restaurants. The view is great if you upgrade your room. The staff is friendly, but seem in a hurry... The hot tub is massive though the jets are weak. Breakfast is free with the requisite carbo-loading. Many good places nearby if you want something other than waffles.
Had stayed at this hotel in the past and was pleasantly surprised by the updating of the facility. Extremely polite and friendly staff! Enjoyed the proximity to the Embarcadero. Hope that the spa is soon updated as well. Very clean and quiet.
Have been here many times on leisure trips, and never fails to satisfy. Very good staff, comfy rooms, fine breakfast. They DID have their usual free wine and cheese when we went but was told it had been stopped then resumed.
The Best Western San Marcos in Morro Bay CA provides excellent service, quality, location and value! In addition to a very scenic location (highly recommend the ocean-side rooms) the facility has a wonderful spa room and wine and cheese in the evening! There are a lot of choices for lodging in Morro Bay, but this is one of the very best!
Morro Bay Best Western was a great place to stay. You can smell the ocean from your room. The staff was great , the room was , clean. Morro bay is California secret that is under rated for it value. A nice little fishing community that offers many great places to dine . You can also take a fishing trip if you like, half day or full day.
Last minute trip just before thanksgiving. Stopped in and we were given a great rate. Love the location and breakfast. This is our third time staying at this hotel. Staff was great. We were offered a second night at even a lower rate.
Hotel was nice, with the exception of the thin walls. Can hear everything going on in the room next door. Hotel staff was friendly and polite during the stay. Room was clean and bed was very comfortable.
The cut backs in amenities was a sore spot for my family this year. No wine, cheese, and crackers in the evening. Hot tub was unavailable for the second night of our stay. The hard boiled eggs at breakfast were still frozen when served.
Thin walls meant sleepless nights. TV on all night on one side and partying on the other. Front desk closes at 11:00 pm so could not report it. Spent 3 nights. Not sure what gives this place a "Plus" designation. Friendly staff is only positive. NO air conditioning or fan which would have helped with noise from other rooms. No returning there for us. View is great but very small patio.
The location is the thing. Walking distance to the beach and amenities, shops, and restaurants. We were so close to the ocean the barking seals disturbed our sleep. It was funny for a minute until we realized that the room did not have air conditioning so we could not shut the sliding glass door. The room was clean, the bed acceptable, and the water pressure in the shower was ok. The parking spaces are really a tight fit making it difficult to maneuver so I parked on the street. The service was ok, nothing extremely good or bad. It's just really average, but it served it purpose for a two nights.
Great location, reasonable price, good staff and comfortable rooms make this property a good pick to enjoy the central coast. 12 miles away from San Luis Obispo, close to Pismo and Avila beach. You can hear the sea lions at night.
The accommodations were excellent and we were within easy walking distance of restaurants and shopping. We would definitely stay here again when we come to the Morro Bay area. The Central Coast is a wonderful area to visit and we come here often.
We stayed here for only 1 might as part of a road trip around California, but we would have happily stayed longer if it had been practicable. We arrived a little early for check-in and our room was not ready, but we were told it would be ready in approx 1/2 hour and we were able to leave our car and baggage at the hotel while going for a walk around the resort. When we returned our room was ready, and a delightful room it was too, with views of the rock and the harbour. The room was comfortable and nicely equipped, all the staff we met were pleasant, friendly and helpful, and the breakfast while nothing special was adequate, though a little late opening. The atrium in the main building is pleasant and airy, and the hotel has a lift which was welcome. We also appreciated the welcoming email sent to us as soon as we had booked - a nice touch. A very enjoyable overnight stay and a suitable base for a much longer stay.
We enjoyed a wonderful ocean view, including Morro Rock, from our king-size room. We were also only 1 block from the Embarcadero, so we could easily walk to the ocean side restaurants and quaint little shops, as well as the Farmer's Market! It was romantic and fun!
Loved the location. Staff was friendly. Unfortunately the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable, time to replace them. Overall great value & wonderful area to stay, everything was within walking distance.
This reviewer has come here on a regular basis since 1999 and will still keep coming back. STACEY and ANGELA allowed an early check in for a four day visit. They were exceptionally accommodating to other guests coming in and out of the lobby. There were two days of record temperatures (104 F); my room was just too hot due to the off shore breeze and extreme temperatures. My room was quickly and cheerfully relocated. As the hotel is so close to the ocean, the majority of the time, air conditioning is not necessary. Both the rooms were well maintained and exceptionally clean. One half of the rooms have great ocean views and you can benefit from the fresh ocean breeze (note photo of sunset view.) Another advantage is the three way sheltered parking; your car will stay cooler and cleaner. JILL was also observed to be helpful to the guests. Thanks to ROSA for giving a "friendly reminder" to a room of guests who were just a little to loud!
Room was nice, with a view of the rock. A short walking distance to waterfront restaurants, and an easy scenic drive to San Simeon a few miles up PCH. The front desk folks are very nice and helpful. We would stay there again.
Unfortunately the room walls are thin. We could hear our neighbors when their shower went on, when they opened and closed their door and our upstairs neighbor either weighed 500 pounds or the ceilings were as thin as the walls.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Hotel is located in a great location. Easy access to shopping, dining and freeways. Staff is very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Have stayed here 2 to 3 times and find that the location is ideal for all of our needs. We usually walk to where we want to go in town. Driving to nearby locations is easy with freeway access and road into surrounding town.s
A very comfortable and ideally located hotel. We could easily walk to waterfront area and cute shops and restaurants starting just a block away. Quiet and spacious room. Staff are very friendly We are planning to stay there again soon in just a couple of months
A small property located in a quaint town. Room was clean and comfortable although a little outdated but not bad. No air conditioning - only a ceiling fan and patio door with a small balcony. Our room overlooked the bay which was very nice. Fortunately we were there during cooler temperatures and didn't miss the air conditioning but could be bad during warner temperatures. Walking distance to restaurants and night life. Breakfast was moderate. Over all a good property and would stay again.
We were in Morro Bay for the Lighthouse Century ride and stayed at the San Marcos Inn for 3 nights. It lived up to our expectations of a Best Western hotel/inn. The Inn is older, but the room was big and clean. The breakfast that was provided was not as extensive as some BW hotels we've stayed in, but still very good and the staff was very polite and helpful. There is no air conditioning but the room does have a ceiling fan which helps a little.
We loved that our room was on the ocean view side with a balcony to sit on and watch the sunset. The staff was aware it was our anniversary weekend and had a bottle of sparkling martinelli's apple juice in the ice bucket waiting for us, sweet.
Morro Bay was a delight. We stopped to see the Morro rock and stayed all day and all night . Our room was comfortable and a decent price . Bathroom is extremely small but clean . Breakfast was pretty sad compared to all other best westerns we have stayed at . Over all experience was good .
This is our second time staying at this hotel and will return. Enjoyed our 3 night stay. Great location for restaurants and shops, and for day trips to nearby communities in Cambria, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Cayucas, Pismo Beach and Nipomo.
Place was classic morro bay hotel but new management company is running it to the ground It has declined so fast last 12 months. Avoid this hotel as pillows and beds are substandard. Towels are cheap feeling and morning room cleanup takes three mi utes and does nothing. Two hour wine and cheese promised is one hour with crackers and horrible wine and no cheese. Shame this hotel has fallen down over the last year. It used to be my favorite in morro bay
Great location on the front at Morro Bay. Room was spacious and clean and what you would expect from the Best Western name. We were unaware before arrival but the hotel has a large hot tub which is free to use. We also enjoyed the welcome drink and nibbles and though this was a lovely touch. Good value and would definitely return.
Very close to the beaches and tourist activities. Also very close to restaurants. We walked everywhere. We had nice view of the Bay from our room. I would bet a balcony side for sure. The lobby is clean and nicely decorated with plenty of places to sit and relax.
Hotel had no AC- which we were shocked to find. Had no idea that it was not offered. Also was extremely outdated.Hotel staff was nice enough but when we left at 630 am no one was at the desk. We came in late and left early.
We stayed here for one night as part of a tour of California. This was one of eight hotels we stayed in during our holiday and this was one of the least impressive, a 5/10. Walking up the stairs to the first floor bore an unfortunate resemblance to the cell block in Alcatraz! Joking aside, this hotel has promise, but unfortunately had too many negatives. The room had a frausty smell, and there was no shower curtain meaning the toilet and bathroom got absolutely flooded. The bed was large, but the pillows lumpy. Also, there was no safe or air con, and the breakfast (albeit free) was minimal in the extreme. On a positive note, the hotel was well placed for the beach area, and the room was a fair size and well laid out. There was free parking and free wifi were part of the package.
We have stayed at this hotel several times over the past ten years and this going to be our last. the place itself is OK the rooms are clean and well presented. Our main gripe is the so-called breakfast. It was passable last year you were offered breakfast egg & sausage muffins which you heated yourself. they have been taken off the menu and what is now offered is continental breakfast that is of poor quality and there is always just the minimal amount available They should maybe think about offering a reduced room rate with out the breakfast and then you could spend the difference on buying breakfast out.
Room was barely okay. No AC and they leave a small portable fan to use. Bathroom was tiny but shower worked good. Breakfast was REALLY lame. Selection was small and service was awful. Had to ask for everything. Definitely will not be back.
The only problem with this hotel for us was that there was no air conditioning, as it is an older hotel. We almost missed out on an extra fan as everyone was asking for one as it was a not so common heat wave. There is a ceiling fan in the room. It is in a good location and walking distance to the Embarcadero. Enjoyed the evening cheese and wine reception.
I don't understand how the hell a hotel in CALIFORNIA doesn't have A/C in the rooms?! I've already pre-paid the room thinking there was Air Conditioning, but when I checked In.... well... NO AIR CONDITIONING! Find something else, most of the hotels and motels nearby have AC. Your Welcome!
the hotel have a very good location close to the water and all the shops good value friendly stuff good breakfast! very clean overall very happy. I will recommend it to anyone. I will stay at this hotel again
We stayed 3 nights and our stay was pleasant. Hotel was nice. Wine and cheese in the evening, complimentary, and breakfast in the morning which was good. Rooms were clean and comfortable and we good see the ocean from our room. Hotel was close to the main part of town and a couple blocks from the ocean.
Nice location and nice view from the hotel. Friendly staffs and very professional. Clean and comfortable room. A very good stop on Hwy 1. You can hear seals im the room from the harbour. A great experience
Location!!! We stayed July 3rd 2017. Super easy, 5+ minute walk to everything. I loved the balcony and view to the bay. It was great sitting on the balcony in the morning and listening to the sounds of the bay, seagulls, seals and fog horn (don't worry, way in the distance). We requested a top floor upon check-in and they accommodated easily. The hot-tub was nice too! We also enjoyed their complimentary wine in the afternoon. Angela upon check-in was great! Only bad thing was the beds. I am hoping the owners will invest in new beds soon, as I like staying at BW and getting rewards. I am heading to the bay today but decided on a different hotel just because the beds were too hard and bouncy.
Excellent staff, seamless check-in and out, spotless rooms, nice linens, comfy beds, and many extras make this our top choice in Morro Bay! The room had a balcony with a nice view of the rock and Spectacular Sunset. Breakfast is well stocked and food safe.
This hotel is definitely a 10/10. Staff was very kind and helpful. The recognized my platinum status and upgraded me to an ocean view room at no extra charge. Would recommend to anyone. Bed was super comfortable and had lots of squishy pillows.
We usually stay at the San Marcos Inn, Morro Bay to break up the trip from Cypress to Monterey on our way up for "Car Week." The view from our room was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. All in all, a great experience.
This hotel is wonderful, the staff is made sure that all of our needs were met before we had needs. My room was nice and clean and very quiet. Well done San Marcos, you get an A+ with my family and I.
This is an older property, clean and quiet but a funky set up with access and parking from either side, some covered. Older design rooms. Rooms have small balconies but even though checking in early, ours was a view of a neighbors drying laundry. Location is good for both downtown and embarcadero. Three story, does have an elevator. Breakfast area unappealing, ate elsewhere. Staff was quick though not friendly at check in. Picture is second story sitting area.
We stayed here two years ago, and at that time the hotel needed some TLC. We were pleased to see it has been repainted and spruced up. It looks much better. We had an ocean view room with Morro Rock right in front of us. The breakfast is the typical selection of Best Western hotels. Breakfast room is small and gets really crowded around 9 am. Be sure to go before then. Rooms are large and very comfortable. They could use some re-decorating to make them more up-to-date. Our only issues were the four small pillows on a king size bed and on the balcony there were two chairs, but no table between them. We will be returning.
We can rely on a great experience every time we have stayed here. Comfortable and clean rooms, great hot/cold breakfast, generous wine and cheese happy hour and even grab and go lunch bags. We had brought our motorcycle group there, because we knew it would be a great experience.
This is, by far, the smallest Best Western I've ever seen. The front desk/lobby/breakfast area feels very crowed as soon as you walk in to check in. They boast of "spacious" and "socially set" lobby, but don't mention that these are situated in a large hallway and surrounded by all the rooms. For some rooms, you walk a few feet out and you are already in the "lobby". The business center is a computer desk behind the elevator, with no privacy. The room was good size and seemed clean, but the carpet had countless stains throughout. Some rooms have ocean view and others have "city view", and by city view they mean their parking lot. The photos on their website did make the hotel seem "luxurious", but the cramped conditions made me feel swindled. I am a BW rewards member and was very disappointed by this hotel. The worst part for me was that upon arrival i was told that my reservation had been cancelled. First, they tried to tell me that I cancelled my own reservation. Then they had the nerve to suggest that a "spouse" might have cancelled it. Turns out BW inexplicably cancelled my reservation. Although they hotel had a room available for me, they would not honor the price I booked the room for. In the end, they referred me to another hotel, which had better accommodations and was less expensive.
This hotel was just okay. The bed was very comfortable & the room was clean. The water pressure for a shower was very low. They provided a continental breakfast but they choices were definately minimal. We've stayed in many Best Westerns and although this one was okay, it was definately nothing special.
The hotel interior and room all seem dated. As a rewards member of BW, i was disappointed with the room they gave me, 209, which was the corner room two floor above the dumpsters. The complimentary breakfast had little choice and the seating area was very limited. I give this hotel two stars because the bed was comfortable. I will not be going back to this hotel.
We asked for an upgrade to a view room and got the best room in the house! The staff was wonderful, very professional. The location is wonderful you can walk to the embarcadero. I will be staying here again.
We had stayed at this hotel about 6 or 7 years ago and liked it. It is still pretty good, but not quite up to par with our previous stay. Regardless, we stayed here because of the location and it was good for that. The morning breakfast was good and the office/breakfast workers were really nice and helpful. We were able to park under cover for the night, which was nice. Our night was quiet and uneventful. We didn't have a view from our room, but only half of the rooms do. We wanted to stay here again over the July 4 holiday, but the rates were jacked up way too high. Their loss.
There is no air conditioning in this hotel. The hotel also lacks a laundry room. We arrived at night and had to drive to a laundry mat. Paid a lot of money for nothing. View was pleasant. If I went back to Morto Bay I would stay at another hotel.
Great location; only a block away from the wharf and great view of the "ROCK" from the hotel. I like that they have a "happy hour" from 5-7 pm every night. One side of the building doesn't really get a view but the neighborhood houses; other side has the view of the water and the "ROCK".
Look @ room before you pay? Over priced our out of date bathroom. The window in bathroom is in the hallway were you can hear people walking by 3" from the windo and they can look in on you & hear whatever you do! No tub and a out of date bathroom. This is not the best western you come to expect for this kind of money.
Really excited to stay here - pretty view and very accessible to restaurants and beach. Unfortunately, there is no air conditioning and the noise from the fog horns, seagulls screeching, traffic, car alarms, garbage trucks, people in and out of the inn make it nearly impossible to sleep. The breakfast is a huge disappointment - not fresh and lack of choices. The shower/bathroom has no fan and the window into the lobby compromises privacy.
Overall a very nice stay. Clean room and comfortable bedTight breakfast area, even a smaller check inarea, But lots of room across the drive way in the "sleeping" quarters. No air conditioning, but we had a nice balcony. Bathroom window opened into hall and did not afford privacy open. Noise from"meeting area" came through loud and clear in our room.
Walk to restaurants, nice enough property, light continental breakfast, wine and cheese in the evening. good service, no AC only ceiling fan and a sliding door. Get to hear the seals... Fun little town with several good places to eat.
We love staying here and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and large. In-room fridge/freezer is nice. No A/C but it is not needed in Morro Bay when we visit. The breakfast is plenty and will satisfy. The SPA is large and well kept. The location of this motel is excellent. We can walk most places and never move our car. A walk to the MORRO ROCK is about 2 miles one way. The price was average for this area. We look forward to our next stay.
Last minute request for a reservation was met with happy and friendly employees that made it happen for us. Hotel is in a fantastic central location to the Embarcadero. It is well maintained and clean. The beds were comfortable and the continental breakfast was great! Will definitely stay again.
Usually in a BW Plus you'd expect more than a microwave breakfast, a little fresh fruit other than apples an bananas would have been nice. In this area no a/c shouldn't be a problem. But because the interior courtyard was enclosed, rooms facing the landside (as opposed to the oceanside) had no airflow. Always ask for an ocean view when staying here and don't expect much from breakfast. The wine/cheese in the afternoon was good.
Stayed 1 night. The hotel is located about half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco in Morro Bay. The hotel is situated in the central part of Morro Bay and Morro Rock and the harbor area is within walking distance. The hotel is not large, and the rooms are located around a large atrium, which is quite nice and also equipped with a business center. The reception and breakfast area are in a separate building. Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception, giving great advice on where to go for dinner. Evening reception with cheese and wine was a very nice touch, and the breakfast too was great. Our room was clean a nice with comfy beds. The hotel is well maintained, but not new, and the soundproofing not first rate, but just okay. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely return.
The hotel was in very good condition and the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Overall, the experience was very positive. Although we stayed only one night, we would have been very happy to stay longer.
A two minute walk to the ocean and shop. It was a great vacation spot for the July 4 weekend for family with young children. About 5-10 minutes walk to the park where kids can play with the sand while I enjoy the ocean. It seems like the city has event for every July 4 in the park, so go there and enjoy. By the way, the room is very compact. Out of 20+ Bestwestern hotels that I stayed, this hotel is in the bottom 3 in term of room size/decoration; but I would more likely stay here again because of the LOCATION and the ocean view from with room with balcony. The worst Bestwestern hotel would be the one in South Beach, Florida. The hotel is beach front but it looks crappy both outside and inside.
Really enjoyed the lounge right outside our room with free wifi. We were able to watch Netflix and eat dinner in the lounge while our daughter napped and went to bed on time! We thought the rooms were very clean. The tile away bed charge for our daughter was waived and we felt like we saved money by taking advantage of the complimentary breakfast and wine and cheese at happy hour. Overall pretty happy!
Very pleasant welcome from the receptionist, introduced the facilities and was very efficient. Room on third floor had scenic views of the bay, and th power station(!) Good sized room comfy bed coffee machine,wi fi OK, Good nights sleep, it's a well built property and quiet, Plenty if undercover parking. Breakfasts steer a crush, all plastic and disposable, microwave buns and limited choice of fruit. Bit of a disappointment, but the re are plenty of food outlets within a short walk. The hotel is within easy reach of the seafront, and shops in this tourist town Expensive in the summer though.
Room included a small refrigerator and microwave. We had sliding doors and a small balcony that overlooked the parking lot. The included breakfast starts at 7:30. It's an ok hotel in a good location near the water front. If you want a view of the water make sure you tell them when you book it.
We were only here overnight. Room was small for 4 people. There is an elevator. Breakfast was ok. This hotel is about 1/2 mile to rock. Our room was on the parking lot side, so NO view. We missed the wine in the evening, but they gave us a glass when we arrived
It was nice....not fantastic. We did have a view of the bay. Very tiny balcony with two hard chairs Balconies are far away from each other. Beds were very comfortable, and I really enjoyed having the ceiling fan on. Covered parking was nice.Tiny bathroom, but huge shower. Breakfast was quite good.....the standard Best Western breakfast plus some delightful pastries, not found at other places.
We stopped in Morro Bay, being midway from SF to SD of our Coastal California trip. So glad we did! Only had one night stay, but the room was spotless & the bed, very comfortable. Much needed since we had been driving for hours. The staff (Maddie) were kind & helpful. We will stay at a BW again!
Easy to find in this laid back resort.....checked in and was delighted to find we were on the top floor with a delightful view of "The Rock" . Hotel amenities were of the usual Best Western Standard. A five minute walk took you to the sea front. Breakfast served in a separate part of the lobby...all in all a good experience Only downside "June Gloom" sea mist which kept temps down to 60f...the answer drive inland and experience 95f Oh and I liked the layout rooms around a central atrium with a small fountain
Walking distance to shops and excellent restaurants. 5 minutes from beach by car. Rooms are large, comfortable and clean, but need a bit of refreshing and updating. Staff was wonderful and helpful. Would recommend.
My mom and I come to Morro Bay every year for her birthday and this year we decided to stay over night. Chose this hotel because we got a discount through AAA and it was in a great location - less than 5 minutes walk to the beach, restaurants and the two bars in town. The bed was firm but not rock-hard, and the bathroom was well stocked. We were a little disappointed that there's no AC unit, but we understood. Would have been nice to know at the time of check in that there was a fan hidden in the closet, but that definitely made the night easier. Did not try the wine/cheese or the continental breakfast they offered though. Wifi was okay but not great. Overall was a good experience.
First let me say that the staff were great. The young lady at the front desk the night we checked in was the most helpful of all. She put herself out to do what she could under the circumstances. So that being said on to the issues. When I went on line to find a BW property on the coast from Santa Barbara to Cambria we choice this property because it offered those things we look for, ie, ocean view, if not on the beach itself and all the standard BW attributes. With a price to match. The list of items on my reservation included a Bay View, an Ocean View, and a Morro Bay Rock view. What I was told at check in I had a CITY View and all the Ocean View room were already booked up. But, according to the helpful young lady to the front desk they did have one room on the Ocean side, 2nd floor that was not normally used and allowed us to take it. So on getting into the room we found that we did not have an Ocean View, we did not have a Bay View, but we did have a great view of the Rock. Going back to the young lady a the front desk and ask about the price of the room without the Ocean or Bay View she said the 2nd and 3rd floor were the same price because of the View. Next, the size of the room was almost claustrophobic is was so small compare to the price and the room should have been in the $90 to $100 range based on the location only. And then there was the breakfast, not what I would expect for the cost of the room. In other words I did not get what I expected or paid for.
We booked a block of rooms for my wedding in Morro Bay. I asked to get a room the morning of our wedding (as we were in a rental house) to have a place to get ready. They accommodated my 10am arrival time (even though check in was not until much later). The room was clean and spacious, and they even greeted me with a bottle of sparkling champagne and a congrats note. My only issue is that the key would not work. Each time I had to leave my room, when I came back I had to go to the front desk, ask for the manager, and be escorted to my room with an admin key to get entry. On our wedding night we decided to stay at this room because it was within walking distance from our venue. We had to show up in the lobby in full wedding gear and once again be escorted to our room. The person working asked if we would like to be upgraded. We said yes (this was the first offer we had), but then she returned to the lobby to get us a new room, and never came back.
At first the room was not promised when checked in! Was suppose to get a room with a ocean view and did not. Then at 1am the fire alarm started chirping and didn't not stop until called on call staff to change battery but that did not work so she took the alarm with her! We requested a late check out and they said they could but was woke up 5 times and called before it was time to check out at 12:30. Then at check out staff did not seem to care that I only got about 4 hours of sleep and she did not even appologise when I was explaining when happened that night! Only said she was sorry at the end one time and even after telling her I would not come back and we are in Morro bay about 2-3 times a month! So I will not be back there at all!!!
The hotel was centrally located to to most tourist spots. It was clean the hotel staff were polite and courteous. The price was reasonable. I would recommend the hotel to anyone. If you need a comfortable place to stay this if it. Not a lot of frills but nice.
Dated but adequately comfortable. A little surprised at the "Plus" classification. BW Plus is our preferred hotels. Have stayed in much nicer ones. This was a good average BW hotel. Had a very good time in Morro Bay.
Spent one night here on way from Death Valley to San Francisco. Morro Bay was great little town - good food, nice views and lots of birds, sea lions and otters. Location: within 5 min walk to water front, laundromats, and galleries/stores. Balcony has great view of Morro Rock. Room: Spacious, no air conditioning but fan and window could be opened. Heard sea lions all night with door open. :) Fridge, and shower with no tub. Older but clean. Our balcony had great views when standing (room 217) but we couldn't sit out there as the chairs were not high enough to see over the concrete wall. Shower had great water pressure! Amenities: Free continental breakfast, free parking, spa tub. Staff: Friendly and helpful. Overall: Would stay here again if in the area, but would want room on the 3rd floor facing the Bay. Found the hotel expensive for how basic it is, but those are the prices in the area.
We're used to staying at premiere 4-star hotels that charge a lot more, and, were pleasantly surprised with the value of this hotel which is quite nice and within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops and attractions in Morro Bay. The enhanced continental breakfast was excellent and even offered sausage & egg croissants. I would have preferred a firmer mattress and found the T.P. a bit harsh after a few days, but all in all, my wife and I spent a wonderful week here and would certainly come back. Best value on the Central Coast!
Very nice room, spacious with a balcony. Very clean, comfy king size bed, nice towels, everything you need. Situated within 5 minutes of the sea front. I couldn't fault it apart from the loo seat was sque whiff & could have been fitted a bit more securely - but that's just being VERY picky. They offered free cheese & wine on our arrival which was VERY nice. The breakfast was really good and would like to have stayed longer but needed to move on! Overall excellent!
This hotel was in a great location--only a block away from all the best restaurants, stores, and the best bakery on the planet (Sun-n-Buns bakery). Our room was comfortable and had plenty of room. The view of the bay was incredible and the shower water pressure was the best I've ever had. The staff was very friendly and easy to work with and there was plenty of parking. It was a very good experience and I would stay there again.
Third year staying here, they are great folks and a few remembered us from previous years. It is nice to feel so welcomed. We already registered for next year's show. It was not warm out but they need to add A/C to the rooms for any hot days.
I was staying in Morro Bay for a long term project and the staff and management team at San Marcos were a real pleasure to interact with for this project. They were able to make arrangements for my team even when the project was extended. I would gladly recommend this hotel to all business and travel guest.
the view from our room of Morro bay was great. the hotel is only 2 blocks to the main drag. The exterior and public rooms were nice, and clean. The room itself was clean, but well used and dated. the bathroom really needs a remodel. the shower stall base was very slick. There was a shower mat, but that covered the drain, so it was difficult to use and not flood the bathroom. Breakfast was the standard Best Western breakfast. It was adequate and met our needs. Staff was friendly and helpful.
We were in a double Queen room with a balcony and ocean view on the second floor. They are in the process of renovating, I believe. The lobby and guest checkin area were really nice, and though our room was small and a little outdated, it was very clean. The room had a perfect view of the rock, and the large sliding glass door and windows on that side of the room really opened the room up. Staff was friendly, and the whole hotel felt clean. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED that they had a free wine and cheese happy hour every night, and indoor jacuzzi, which was the selling point to me besides the price per night. Breakfast selection was smaller than I'm used to at similar hotels, but there was enough variety to keep my party full and satisfied (loved the Jimmy Dean sandwiches, build-your-own waffle bar with fun items to add to the waffles, and peanut butter). Overall, we loved our stay, and would definitely return!!! Note: if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Walls are thin, and we could hear all our neighbors moving around and their plumbing usage. Would have bothered me more if I didn't bring earplugs :)
I have used this hotel before and will continue to return. The rooms are clean, have coffee/tea maker, frig, iron, blow, dryer, and even soap/shampoo. The spa is a great addition. Nice breakfast to get the day started. Walking distance from everything. You can hear the seals....Wake up to the Morro Bay rock. Short drive to beaches and other sites of interest. LOVE the view of the bay. This is and will continue to be my famiy's Great Morro Bay stay place!
Clean and tidy with great service from the team. With complimentary breakfast, spa, business centre and a stones through away from the main restaurant strip in Morro Bay, it was a perfect time. The 12pm check out was great too and meant I was able to spend the morning out and around Morro Bay.
We have stayed here several times in the last two years. It is about a block and a half from the marina, stores and restaurants. We paid extra for a room with a view of the rock and the ocean. When the fog lifted we had a very good view from the whole room. They have a wine and cheese gathering in the breakfast room starting at 5. You can drive to Morro Strand St. Beach or you can drive to Los Osos and visit Montana de Oro State Beach.
Rooms were very clean, staff was wonderful and very accommodating. It was mine and my husbands honeymoon and it was very special. Location was perfect, room was really nice considering the Bridal Suite was already taken by the time we made our reservation...I would definitely recommend this place!
With only a short walk to the Embarcadero shops and restaurants, this hotel is well-situated. The rooms are lovely, and quiet. Two negatives: parking is cramped and limited (forget bringing anything bigger than a Suburban) and the wifi is spotty enough to be unusable (at least in my room at the end of the hall).
Perfect location. Quiet area. Walking distance to Embarcadero. Professional staff from check-in to check-out. Excellent breakfast. Appreciated the balcony. Happy to have the choice of stairs or elevator. Thank you for taking great care of us!
Nice hotel in the center of Morro Bay, close to the water. Very comfortable bed, great WIFI, and good simple breakfast choices. The spa is really a very clean indoor pool. We loved it. And the best part was the staff was gracious and helpful. Thank you. We will be back
We only stayed one night on our trip back down the coast headed back home. The motel is easy to get to, close to the beach area, has covered parking. It is a short walk down to the main resturant area and tourist shops. The motel is very clean and kept up very nicely, almost looks like recent remodel. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, check in was very quick. They offer wine and cheese in the lobby from 5 to 7 in the evenings which several people were there to enjoy. Each room has a very small balcony, all rooms are on the second or third floors but the elevator is centrially located so no one has to use stairs. The rooms on the ocean side have a view of the bay and rock but cost a little more, worth it if you are staying more than one night as you can not see anything after dark. Our room was very nice and a bit larger than some we have had lately. The shower is small but the shower head is high and workes great. The vaniety area has a nice counter with room to get ready. The room was very quiet even with the motel full to capacity. The motel is working on being green which we appreciate. The wi-fi was pretty fast and worked well. The rooms do not have AC but the beach hardly needs it anyway, the rooms have a ceiling fan, recycling container and they are doing other energy efficient things. The free breckfast is better than most motels but most BW motels have a larger variety of cerials and rolls especially when they do not offer eggs or sausage. The waffels were standard but they did offer a choice of three different syrups. The breckfast is still a bonus but most of the BW places we stay it is a bit better. This is a very nice place to stay and I will more than likely pick this one again when I stay in Morro Bay again.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, had 2 beds and spacious enough for the three of us. Coffee facilities in the room and toiletries were provided. Breakfast was simple but filling. The hotel is just a couple of blocks from the Morro Bay Marina where one can find a good selection of restaurants and boats for rental, etc. Morro Bay is the place to go if you wish to simply relax. The place is not crowded and has a small-village feel. The Morro Rock and surrounding view from the Marina is awesome.
Very nice and clean hotel. Great location - only short walk (3-5 min)to the beach promenade with views and restaurants for every taste. Very convinient parking place with backdoor directly to the main holl. We loved our short stay there (was 2 adults + 2 kids). Highly recommends this hotel!
We often stay at Best Western Plus hotels and this hotel represents the standard fairly well. The staff here are all very friendly & personable and go out of their way to provide good customer service. The hotel itself is a little old and could use some updating but overall everything worked in the room and it was very clean and the bed comfortable. The view of Morro Rock was nice, as was waking to the sound of the seals barking in the morning. The breakfast is pretty basic but enough to get you started. The wine and cheese in the evening was a nice touch, too. Would definitely stay here again and the cost was reasonable for the location.
Excellent service, views, clean, comfortable and it even has a wonderful view of the bay and Morro Rock from the enclosed spa!! The breakfasts and cheese & wine in the evenings are great and they always have a fire in the fireplace in the cozy lobby!! This is the only place I stay when I visit beautiful Morro Bay!!!
Great views of Morro rock and the embarcadero. They went out of their way to make our bike parking in a convenient location. Ice machine didn't work but they had ice available at the check in desk. Rooms could use a modern touch and new elongated toilets. All in all not bad . Doable continental breakfast and wine and cheese in the afternoon. A little spendy for the caliber of hotel but hey, it's Morro Bay on a Saturday.
The staff sure make a difference here. In their own individual ways, it is apparent each member contributes his/her own individual qualities to insure all guests and each other, can have the only best of time. The hotel is being gradually updated without causing any major disruptions. For example, see the picture of the newer and larger Jacuzzi (spa.) Also note the covered parking for those who like a cool clean car! Mother Nature provides the scenery (see the beautiful sunset as viewed from the ocean facing side of the hotel). The hotel provides a great room with fair rates operated by a fantastic staff. Some of the staff observed going the extra mile for customers include NICK,IAN, ROSA, ANGELA and STACEY.
I love staying at this hotel, so close to the bay and all shops and restaurants within walking distance. Friendly, clean and quiet. The changing views of Morro Rock throughout the day are fabulous from the balconies. Breakfast is plentiful and varied.
Comfortable bed, pleasant accommodations. Had ocean view and was on the 3rd floor so was able to leave the sliding glass door open at night. Was within walking distance to shops and restaurants. A movie theatre was within walking distance as well as shops in that area. Was close to Cambria and spent the day there. We have been here several times and hope to visit again soon. Great location for walking to the shops on the bay front and the down town area with a theatre. Quiet and very accommodating staff.
We're back again and did not consider any other hotel in Morro Bay. We have been coming to this hotel for about 15 to 20 years if that tells you anything. Location is perfect for just about anything you want to do. Walk to shopping, restaurants, movie theater and a short drive to golf, fishing, the beach and surfing. So grab your other half and or the kids and make Morro Bay Best Western San Marcos Inn your destination.
Very nice Hotel indeed. We were looked after well by Madi when we checked in. The room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included in the rate and they gave us complimentary cheese and wine 5-7pm - a nice touch.
The room was nice. Breakfast not so much. The waffle maker destroyed the waffles, as they stuck to the grid. No breakfast selections for diabetics, or those avoiding sugar. The Cheerios were sugar-coated. This facility charges extra for rooms with an ocean view, which matters not to us. We just want a good night's sleep.
We enjoyed a large, comfortable room, with a balcony, a view of the bay, and a view of Moro Rock. Although the San Marcos Inn is a couple of blocks from the waterfront, it is on a hill, so you can even see the beautiful sunset. A very nice touch was the evening wine and cheese. This was an opportunity to have some interesting conversations with other visitors. This was especially true on the second night of our stay when the young man from behind reception engaged us in conversation, and ensured that everyone was enjoying the evening. We have visited Moro Bay four or five times over the years - it is a beautiful, relaxed town, with good dining opportunities on the water, and best of all a colony of sea otters which are easy to see from the boardwalk, and sea ,lions which can be heard all round town. I expect to be back, and when we do return we will definably check out the San Marcos Inn!
Small rooms, a bit dated décor and bathrooms, but close to Fisherman's Wharf, Downtown Morro Bay. No air conditioning ... it was warm on the 3rd floor, but thankfully, had an ocean-facing room, so there was the slightest bit of a breeze ... otherwise it would have been insufferable. Morro Bay is usually cool, so probably not a problem very often.
The hotel and staff here are very nice and friendly. Only drawback in my opinion is that the lobby where they serve a minimal breakfast is very small. The wine and cheese and crackers in the afternoon is a really nice touch.
This hotel was in a great location, walking distance to restaurants and waterfront. Own balcony with our room and lovely staff that were helpful with things to do. Breakfast onsite was convenient and hotel was very clean. Very much enjoyed our stay. The only downfall was that rates jumped significantly on the weekends, but for the area, this was average,
Effortless check in, staff apologised for renovations, which made no real difference to our stay, rooms nice and large, with good amenities at hand. Got another TV remote devised by spock, and could not get it to work, however watching TV was not what our stay was about. Worth going down for wine tasting etc.., its free, and breakfast, again was free, and excellent. Lovely stay in a really nice atmosphere, well done.
Got a great deal for a Sunday one night only. The hotel is in the process of renovation and we appreciated the new modern decor. Our room was clean and comfortable. Afternoon wine and cheese and breakfast was a bonus. Walking distance to tourist areas and restaurants. We enjoyed clam chowder and Fish and Chips at Dutchman's. The individuals at the front desk were exceptional. Welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Wish I could remember their names.
This hotel makes a good effort to provide a comfortable night's stay. Although the place is older it is clean and there are obvious attempts to be contemporary, such as plug-ins for electronic devices. Features that I enjoyed included providing areas with lounging furniture for visiting in groups outside of the room. There is also an indoor spa that is very large and has a view of "the Rock". The room was comfortable, shower but no bathtub. Each room has a small balcony and half of those face the Rock and bay. I would definitely stay here again on business trips. The location is within 2 blocks of the marina and many restaurants and shops are within walking distance.
Excellent, as always. Within Walking distance of Dorn's (where we had dinner). We always stop there on our way to Monterey fro the Vintage Car Weekend. The rooms are clean and the location is great. What else is there to say?
I debated over the rating (2 stars versus 3 stars) but ultimately, there were certain things that made me give the 2 star rating. The Good: - Customer service at the hotel was great. They were very friendly and anytime I had a question or problem they were very helpful and always friendly - Nice room with big flat screen TV and plenty of viewing options on cable - Free covered parking - Free WiFi The Bad: - NO A/C! It's July... I don't know if I have ever been to a hotel without A/C. And interesting enough, the rooms are about 10 degrees hotter than the outside at night. Sure you can leave the window open but the noise will keep you awake. They do provide a small portable fan but it's not effective at cooling the room down and you only benefit from it if it's blowing directly on you. There is a ceiling fan, but oddly it's placed in a corner opposite the bed. I don't understand why they wouldn't put it over the bed. But even at it's highest speed, it really didn't provide any relief. So, for the two nights we stayed, it was miserable heat! - The bed is quite hard. I have no idea why some places put these super hard beds in the rooms. Combined with the heat in the room and the super hard bed, I just tossed and turned all night. I woke every morning quite exhausted from a lack of sleep. - The price was ridiculous! For the price I was expecting ocean front view, room service, plush bed, and air conditioning to name a few others. For starters, I called the hotel directly. NOT the reservation line for all Best Western, but I actually called the Best Western Plus San Marcos Inn directly and yet right after I made the reservations with them over the phone, I found a better price... right on the Best Western website! I called back and cancelled the reservation I had just made. Beyond understanding how I can get a better deal on the website and yet the person making the reservation over the phone didn't have this price. But there was no problem in cancelling previous reservation. But the price!!! $250/night..... I've stayed at the Marriott and Hyatt for less!!! At most, I would have expected this to be a $75 or less per night. More than $100 a night for this place is outrageous. $250 per night is insane!!! For example, the Best Western Cavalier just up the road in San Simeon is essentially the same price yet does offer ocean views, a full outdoor pool and a 24 hour front desk - the BW San Marcos Inn shuts down the front desk at 11pm. The Cavalier rooms also came with refrigerator, mini bar and room service. None of this is available at the BW San Marcos Inn. - Rooms are not very insulated. Every door closing, virtually every movement from anyone in a room above, below or next to you... you will hear. The door closings you will hear regardless of how far away they are. Never again would I stay at this hotel. I can understand the price at the BW Cavalier given it's location and other amenities they offer, but this place pales in comparison yet charges the same exorbitant price. Sadly, I was looking forward to our vacation being over so I could return home to a comfortable bed and cool place and today finally woke rested. I can't imagine I would ever stay at a Best Western ever again given the prices. Motel 6 was less than half the price of BW and they have air conditioned rooms!
My husband and I love to travel to the Morro Bay area and this is my favorite place to stay. It's close to everything we like to do like: good restaurants, antique shopping, walking around by the Morro Bay Rock to see the Birds, Otters, and Surfers and more. We go to relax (Soothing Hot Tub,Yummy Wine & Cheese Hour) and this is the place to stay!!! ENJOY111
The staff was extremely cordial and helpful. The hotel is currently going through some renovation but overall is in good condition. My only negative comment is that the room/bathroom does not measure up in size and features to a normal BW Plus. The bathroom is very small and does not have a bathtub (only a shower). Maybe this will change after the renovation is complete.
the view was great you could see the ocean, and Morro Rock from our room. The noise was the worst you could hear people above and kids running in the hall all night, The rooms were nice and clean, its older building they are trying to remodel,
The hotel is severely needing updates..there is a musty mouldy smell throughout..basic cleanliness..really unimpressed and feel we overpaid for the room. No air conditioning. Would definitely not return or recommend until the badly needed renos have been completed.
The best thing about this hotel is the view from a 3rd floor view room of the Morro Rock. We stayed 2 nights and one night / sunset was beautiful and the early morning light shining directly on the rock was crystal clear and postcard perfect. The second day was very foggy and we could not see the rock so we were glad we had two nights to see the views for at least one day. Summertime in this area of California can be foggy so you should stay 2-3 nights to make sure you have good views and good weather. Pros: The view from a 3rd floor room facing the bay - all of the other rooms would have no or very limited views. The property is an easy block / 4 minute walk to water. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. There was wine and cheese from 5-7 pm; the happy hour that was nice. The breakfast in the morning was good however the only hot food was a waffle iron. There is a large hot tub with views of Morro Rock. Cons: The room is a bit dated and small. The bathroom section with the shower and toilet is very small. There is no air conditioning which would be good in warm weather and for the bathroom; there is a small window over the toilet and in shower room but doesn't offer much privacy. The bed and pillows were both lumpy and not really comfortable. The shower kept changing from freezing to scalding which was very annoying. There are no employees on property after 11pm so if you come late your key is left outside in a lockbox. Our phone never worked and never did get fixed. There are really not any really great hotels in Morro Bay that I can tell but there are several that are ok and clean and will do. This hotel is good, but I would only stay in the 3rd floor room described. There is so much great nature to see in this area and this hotel is central to the town.
We used the hotel as a stopover going from Monterey to Santa Barbara - and came late evening and headed of early morning. Room booked 5 months in advance to a rate of total 306$ for two queen beds in one room. As such the hotel is nicely located with a view of Morro Rock, and within walking distance to the small embacadero. Room was average - and the hotel needs a general makeover. The main reason for our disappointment is given a quite high room rate - there is simply not enough value for the high amount paid. Staff seems quite indifferent and compared to the atmosphere from Best Western in Monterey - this place is dead and soulless. Morning buffet limited, and juice clearly mixed with water to a degree where you could discuss if there was any juice left in it. Again, tricks like these are not ok with roomrate like that - but more something you would expect at a discount hotel. Good things: location, spacious room, clean, fine beds and a good nights sleep. Things to improve: Staff service level and engagement, quality of breakfast and overall hotel interior Not sure whether the area is just very pricy - or if San Luis Obispo would be a better choice. Morro Rock is nice, but something that can be done in a 15 minute stopover.
Everything was more than comfortable and the staff was extremely helpful. There was construction going on but they were very careful about not intruding on our stay. Lots of signs and markings to let you know what was going on. I would definitely stay at this Best Western again.
Totally booked this on a whim on hotel tonight. Great choice. Affordable price for a clean room, with basic amenities. Close walk to the bay and morro Rock and excellent breakfast included. Friendly staff, and plenty of parking. Only downfall is the lack of late night meals in the neighborhood. Very quiet neighborhood, mainly of retired folk!
The place was clean and close to the Bay. The room was pricey, but I had points from Best Western. They had a nice wine and cheese. The breakfast was ok. Some of the food was frozen. I think the refrigerator is too cold. Yogurt was frozen, and the bananas were grey. The staff was friendly. I will return. Nice and quiet.
We had traveled by car from Asheville North Carolina and had stayed in many hotels and motels in several different states. I can tell you that this was a really Nice Motel to stay in. Had a wonderful friendly and knowledgable staff. Had a easy access to walk for great views. the room and surroundings were very neat and clean and comfortable. Extremely quiet and comfortable bed. Love the bath. Also very fresh and fluffy towels, unlike some other motels. An overall great experience. Would definitely recommend and return for a longer visit.
The property is average for above average pricing. You can drive a bit further and find nicer properties. No air conditioning, the furnishings are dated, but clean, the property is cramped, not ocean front, there is an ocean view, over priced for the hotel.
The hotel is in an excellent location in Morro bay. We had a good view of the rock from our top floor room. It is close to the sea front where there are several gift shops, places to eat and just generally wander around in a very relaxed and friendly port. The walk to the Rock is great with boats in the harbour and excellent fish and chip shops. But best of all are the Sea Otters. These amazing Otters just look as though they are having a great time rolling about and playing in the water.
The room was clean and the staff was very friendly. It served our purpose for the weekend stay. Rooms may need updating but it was a great location and plenty of places to eat within walking distance.
Morro Bay was the last stop on a family vacation. Our room was supposed to be ready, but had no pillowcases, towels or shower curtain. The hotel is being remodeled, but the corridors, stairways and elevator were dirty. The carpets in both rooms were so filthy that the bottoms of our feet were black from just walking around in the room. The only room ventilation is a sliding glass door to a small balcony. The screen door locks were broken. Since the balcony only has a wrought-iron railing, the doors could not be left open. We were traveling will toddlers and it would have been unsafe. Consequently, the rooms were very hot and stuffy. There is no a/c at most hotels in Morro Bay because of the coastal location. The bathrooms are tiny and cramped, with no fan. There is a small window that looks out onto the corridor that can be opened, but all smells will escape onto the corridor! A horrible experience in a beautiful little town.
After touring around Morro bay San Marcos inn seemed like the best choice for its location (being close to the embarcadero) and the outside seemed a little better than the sketchy other motels in the area. Parking stalls are a little rough and tight so I did not bother parking in them, but there was plenty of parking on the street where I can see my car from the room. The rooms themselves are pretty outdated with the big TVs being the best feature of the room. Rooms are very clean though and comfortable with balcony views. Walls were very thin so you can hear kids screaming in the hall and etc. The internet is very bad as well. They need a major upgrade to their network. Having poor signal and constant cutoffs made using the wifi impossible. I was still able to get my Xbox to connect online to at least play. Overall the hotel is okay. I would stay again due to the location, but the prices were steep for this weekend for what they offer.
Very nice budget motel. Undergoing renovations while we were there - will look nice when completed. Wifi was very slow. Wine and cheese from 5-7PM was nice. Breakfast was excellent (waffles, meat, toast, juices, etc.). Therapy pool (basically big hot tub) was clean and nice. Rooms on the western side of building have balconies overlooking the harbor. Very nice view. Easy 10 min walk to the harbor area. We will stay here again next time we visit Morro Bay.
We checked in late in the evening and Mattie was very friendly and helpful. She made a great first impression and made us feel welcome. Our room was small but the king size bed was very comfortable and seemed fairly new. The bathroom had new tile floors and granite countertop. The room seemed very clean and it was nice to have a microwave and refrigerator in our room. The walls are a bit thin between the rooms so you can hear the neighbors tv. Parking can be a challenge especially if you have a large vehicle.
I begin by saying that this is out of character for me to write a poor review, but.... upon arrival to this place the woman who was running the front desk was rude and highly unwelcoming !!! after a long drive to get to this lovely town this greeting was the last thing that I needed. I was staying with my wife and children. there were hidden charges that were not mentioned prior to arrival and when I questioned these charges then I was grunted at to sign my name 3 times one of which I believe was to agree to these charges??? The room.. well it was clean yes but the walls and floors and ceilings are paper thin and the people upstairs I believe were not intending to be noisy at all but every movement could be heard and yes it did affect the nights sleep, along with the fact that there is no air con in the room either ??? BW Plus ??? The following morning .. we were greeted in the breakfast lobby by the same awful attituded woman who grunted her way through our arrival the previous day - a smile was far far away for this woman , she huffed and puffed her way around the really small breakfast area as if everything was a huge chore for her to do such as filling up the fridge with yoghurts and croissants, also when asked if she could refill the waffle mix she barked at someone to press it harder even though it was actually empty and required a refill??? notably though her attitude changed immediately when what seemed like the manageress showed up in the lobby area. !! ** whatever you do make sure you use the restrooms before you check out, I decided to check out my room key whilst the desk was not busy and after I had finished my breakfast and before returning to the road wanted to use a restroom only to be told we don't have any ?? ** I find it hard to believe that this woman has to go all day without using a restroom ?? The spa doesn't have any restrooms that can be used either so it makes me wonder ??? Personally I think that a representative from BW should revisit this place as I don't believe this was worthy of a plus rating ??
They are constantly upgrading this hotel, and remains to be our favorite place to stay in Morro Bay. Nothing under construction but love the breakfast and wine & cheese happy hour experience. Accommodations and customer service are the best!
This Beat Western Plus was wonderful! We had a choice of Ocean View or Village View. Our Ocean View was great! The room came with a small balcony, breakfast and a 5 -7 cheese and wine event. Both were fun as they gave us a chance to meet and chat with others who were staying at the hotel. Both the breakfast and the cheese and wine did not skimp, and there were plenty of choices available! We would definitely return!
I usually stay in Morro Bay when I have business in SLO. The hotel is convenient and very near the ocean with some nice views. Food is also conveniently nearby. The staff is very pleasant and helpful.
This was a romantic getaway for my girlfriend and me. We enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evening after a wonderful dinner at the Galley. Your staff was very attentive and friendly. We also took advantage of the breakfast. It was very good.
We had a great time at the Best Western. Harry, the person who checked us in, was extremely nice and helpful. He cares about the guests and their satisfaction. He brought us our extra blankets we requested and kept the wine and cheese appetizers filled upon arrival. We would definitely stay at this hotel in the future. The room was clean and the view of the ocean was spectacular.
Driving up Pacific Coast Highway and had a reservation at this Best Western as a midway point to Carmel. Picked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and it did not disappoint. Very friendly staff, rooms were very nice and clean. Beds are super comfortable too. The hotel is right up the street from shops and restaurants and a short walk to the rock. We happened to stay right before the classic car show. What a treat, met alot of nice people and saw lots of cool classic cars. Breakfast is included and was perfect to get us going in the morning.
We met with other family. From Sonora and Salinas. We had a great time and the rooms are always nice and clean. Staff is really nice and helpful. We have never had any problems while staying here.Great walking distance for most things in Moro Bay.
Good location, one block from the bay. Quiet. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Building is being refurbished as it is an older dated site. Comfortable very clean room. Very good quality soaps, towels. Breakfast in the lobby but arrangement a bit cramped. Probably will improve once building refurbishing finished. This is a good value for proximity to the bay, as well as the quiet surroundings. Very helpful information binder with local menus, info about activities and services.
The Best Western San Marcos in Morro Bay, CA is a well run hotel that is both a great bargain and a terrific place to stay. The rooms on the bay side have a fine view of Morro Bay harbor and the town.
Always stay here for the view of Morro Rock and the estuary and the sounds of the sea gulls, sea lions and fog horn. Can't hear that in Nebraska. Room is clean and charming. Walking distance to bay and great seafood restaurants.
This is a nice little place. Clean, close the the beach, relatively quite location. Nice lobby where they serve an updated continental breakfast and even wine and cheese in the evening. Great choices for both! I really liked the entrance lobby fountain and the furniture there is new and clean. Very calming area to be. Check-in is quite simple and friendly. Especially the male receptionist who checked us in. Very friendly and informative. The other one that does breakfast/daytime not as friendly but not rude either. Lots of lighting and electrical socket options which was nice for our tablets, cells, and laptop to all charge. The parts that weren't so good: The biggest was no air conditioner. Our room got extremely uncomfortably hot. As someone not used to CA heat that was a HUGE turn-off. Having a place to cool down is very important to me. Also for king size beds, they only offer 4 small pillows. The bed really needs 6 of these or get larger pillows. Every time we rolled over, we would end of flat on the mattress. The internet access was bad but that seems to be a trend in the area so I can't hold that against them. A bath would also be nice. However there is a spa to soak in. This had it's own ups and downs. The seating edge in the spa was VERY rough (actually gave up upper thighs a rash/scrap effect when I shifted. However the room itself was nice and clean with comfortable lounge chairs. Overall, not a bad place but it has a couple key areas that will have me considering other options in the future. But if amenities were improved, I would've surely consider it. Especially since we are in the area 1-2 times a year.
The facility is a bit dated but he rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was better than some in this same category: oatmeal with lots of toppings, fresh waffles, fruit, juice, hard boiled eggs, pastries, toast. Skip the pastries and go for the other goodies. The wine and cheese was a nice touch. The wine was what would be expected in this situation so don't expect the good stuff. I arrived when the office was closed but the process was very easy to figure out.
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in April. Really nice staff. The breakfast was also nice with many choices. Also enjoyed the complementary wine and cheese in the evening. Haven't seen that offered by many hotels. Went for a walk to the bay in the evening. It was a really beautiful day. The ocean is also a very short drive away. There are many many nice places to eat. We tried Thai elephant and Dutchman's Seafood House and both were great. Just a perfect place to stay.
The room rates for this hotel were a little, for the qualilty of the room offered. The rates varied from $134.00 a night to $240.00 a night for the same room. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Needs major imporements.
If you expect friendly front desk service, DO NOT stay at this hotel. Desk clerks only acknowledge you after you basically demand their attention ... no greeting, no 'May I help you?' ... even when activity is slow/non-existent. Breakfast layout is minimal and poorly arranged. Room is very small, in need of paint, but otherwise clean. Overpriced compared to service offered elsewhere.
Convenient location close to waterfront. Ask for a seaside room. Comfortable and clean. Although it is older, and exterior looks dated, it seems well kept and lobby in building with rooms is pleasant. Office could use some sprucing up.
Have stayed at this hotel many times and plan to stay many more. As always the front desk staff are very friendly and seem to go out of there way to please you. Breakfast area has been redesign and looks very nice. New carpet in the corridors and working on the interior walls. The location makes it ideal for Morro Bay, just two blocks to the embarcadero with plenty of shopping and dinning. If your a golfer give Morro Bay or Diary Creek golf courses a try, you won't be disappointed. Also some of the finest deep sea fishing on the central coast is there.
This hotel is good for families looking for a hotel on a budget. Great location and within walking distance of Morrow Bay Rock and local shopping. This is not recommended for business stays. The business center is out of date and not in working order.
Being that this was our first family trip down to California, and since we have family from Los Angeles to San Francisco, we thought we would try a night in Morro Bay. We came across the Best Western Plus. The building looked a little old and tired but we thought we would give it a go and stay for just the night. When we walked into the Lobby, we noticed they were having some type of wine reception which was really nice and welcoming after a long drive. The clerk we interacted with was a older woman (I think her name was Angela). She greeted us with a warm smile and she was very friendly.. She talked with my family and myself for awhile and gave us a great deal on a room that faces the bay. Once we got settled in we went back down to the lobby to see if we could get some assistance in finding a good restaurant. Angela and Harry were eager to help us find a good place to eat. I would highly recommend the Best Western Plus to my family and friends. Staff is Awesome, service is great and the location is close to shops and restaurants.
Located one block from the Ocean, half of the rooms have views on the Rock, half on the parking lot. Quiet place. My room was a joined room with loud occupants. I hate when i get those rooms as you can hear someone breathe, insulation is so poor. That was annoying but they were quiet after 10 pm. Wine and cheese offered from 5-7pm was alright. Cheap wine and 3 kinds of cheese but better than nothing! Breakfast was not bad but no eggs, bacon, sausage.
We really enjoyed our view room at this hotel.Room was clean and elevator brought us up to 3rd floor with view of Morro Bay Rock. Enjoyed dinner one block away at Windows on the Water. Did not use the indoor hot-tub, that I had originally thought was a swimming pool. Breakfast was nice. Good location and would recommend getting room with view.
I stayed for three nights and liked the location very mush. There were many restaurants within walking distance and it was close to The Rock. Morro Bay seemed like a nice city. Very clean and safe. The breakfast was usual continental with waffles and jimmy dean breakfast sandwiches. It was nice to walk to waterfront and watch the Sea Otters. There were more Otters than in Monterey.
Excellent location. Old and tired building and room. This place definitely needs an upgrade desperately. Rooms are smaller than average hotel room and bathroom/ shower is cramped. No bathtub provided and it's standing shower only. Breakfast is lacking at best. Dining room is small and cramped. Wifi is unreliable and slow. Carpet in the room was very dirty and had numerous spots and stains. If you need a place to crash within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants, this will do fine.
Everything about this Best Western Plus was absolutely perfect. Rooms were clean and very comfortable. I enjoyed their happy hour as well as their breakfast. Happy hour consisted of several wines and several cheeses and crackers. Sparkling cider was also available. Breakfast had a very wide variety of items, including waffles. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone planning a trip to Morro Bay, CA
Stayed for one night on a tour down the PCH and loved it. They had a complementary wine and cheese pairing which hit the spot before our walk along the coast to watch the sunset. The rooms were very large and had very adequate amenities. The facility as a whole looks slightly dated, but it was clean, well maintained, and we felt very welcome there. The Spa was nice and hot and was perfect for a crisp California winter night. The continental breakfast was better than many of the other places we've stayed at - they had several coffees to choose from, a mix of baked goods and fresh fruits, several beverage choices, and a DIY waffle station. Wifi coverage was good and fast enough for Netflix. We would stay there again.
This is an older location in the heart of Morro Bay. The location was good for my husband and me, as we were in town to visit family in nearby Los Osos. The rooms have been recently remodeled, and are in great shape, including the bathrooms. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had what they call a "City View" room which overlooks the parking lot and a back area. We weren't there for pleasure so it didn't matter to us, but it was not pretty as an ocean view room would be. The check in office is on the other side of the parking lot from where the rooms are, which means the breakfast area is also across the parking lot. They have complementary wine and cheese in the afternoons from 5-7, which was a nice surprise. The red wine was gone by 6, so I settled for a dry white. They also offer complementary breakfast, but we found it to be less than great. There were a few pastries, but no other breads for toast. The only protein available was yogurt and prepackaged Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. Not great, but better than nothing. When we checked in, we had to wrangle our room rate and prove the posted rate on the BW website. The manager was nice enough about it, but I felt like she was doing us a favor by giving us the website rate. We had told them we were staying for two nights, but our lines must have crossed, because she called me the next morning at 5 minutes before check out after our first night to advise me that we had left some things in our room. When I told her we had told them two days, she seemed aggravated, but was able to keep us in the same room for another night. she did, however, required me to come back to the reception desk and sign new documents. All in all, she was very professional about the whole thing; I just felt as if she was feeling put out in her dealings with us. The last thing I would mention is that when I came in to sign the new reservations documents, the parking lot was full and I had to park on the street. I noticed that, in the parking lot, there was a housekeeper sitting in her car on her phone; I assume she was on a break, but I believe that when parking spaces are limited, the staff should be parking on the street and leaving the spaces on the property for the guests. Just a thought. All in all, it was a good stay, but these are things I would want to know if I was reading reviews of this hotel. It's a nice place.
Great location great big rooms great mobility for anybody to get around!!! Love it can not wait to go back and stay there again!! It is worth the money that you spend for the room. It has to big queen size beds a nice big screen flat TV.
I would stay at this Best Western when I am back in Morro Bay. It is easy access in town and near the shoreline. It is very close to many restaurants and stores. The rooms were clean and the towels were thick and soft. In fact there were enough towels for everyone. The lobby was lovely and very private.
Stayed with a group, then hung around a day on my own. Very accommodating staff, very nice breakfast with protein for a change, not all carbohydrates. Sausage/egg sandwiches, waffles, all the essentials. The room was clean, though showing its age a bit with water damage to the wall outside the walk-in (!) shower, and stucco looking walls. renovation was going on during our stay, and it will be pretty nice when done. There is a small indoor pool that is in fact a BIG hot tub! Great! I'd stay there again.
I thought it was a cute small hotel in a marina community, but I thought the rooms were really dated. Also the bathroom window is int he hall way that other people are walking by to there room. That was a little weird. The staff was very friendly, but I paid over $300 for a night, so I can definitely say I was charged way to much.
San Marcos Inn was an extremely good choice. My room faced Morro Bay and Morro Rock; there was a balcony with two chairs and an ocean view. Other amenities included a mini-fridge and a small microwave. The shore was two blocks away. There was a variety of choices for breakfast, which was complimentary; for lunch and dinner, there were half a dozen decent places within easy walking distance. Location and value for money both outstanding. I would stay there again.
We have been staying here when we are in the area for the past forty years. Good losation, easy to get around town, even if you want to walk. Staff is always ready to help you find what ever you want.
On a one night trip through Morro Bay we chose this motel after reading the reviews. There is some construction going on! The room size is OK and the bed was confortable. We were on the top floor but still heard foot traffic which sounded like it was coming from above? Lots of noise from next room. Poor soundproofing. Noisy compact refrigerator that we had to turn off. I would only rate this property at 2 1/2. Good WiFi.
Spent one night here over the weekend. We stay in Morro bay fairly often but had never stayed at this hotel. The hotel itself is quite nice - the inside is very open and includes an atrium from the ground to the roof above the third floor. There is a large indoor jacuzzi that was also very nice with big windows facing the bay. The room was ok, no complaints, and had a very nice view of the bay from the balcony. The included breakfast was much better than any of the other motels we've stayed at nearby. The only issue we had with the hotel is that the front desk staff (Kimberly and Angela I believe (sorry if I got the names wrong)) seemed like they were going out of their way to be as rude as possible. Seriously, like it was a contest to see who could be more obnoxious to a guest. Fortunately we were only there for a night so we didn't interact with them much. If the owner or manager of the property reads this: you have a great hotel in a great location, but you might want to spring for some hospitality classes for your employees.
Let me start off by saying that we really wanted to love this hotel. We have stayed in quite a few hotels in Morro Bay and usually the rooms ends up being on the small size and there are very few amenities. The rooms here were good size, they have a jacuzzi on the first floor for the guests, they do free wine and cheese from 5:00pm-7:00pm every night and they have a free breakfast...but the service was so horrible it makes me not want to go back. Our first encounter was with how terrible the front desk staff was. We were in the jacuzzi and it was time to close, and the lady from the front desk came to tell us it was time to close the jacuzzi. We asked her if she had any towels because there were none in the jacuzzi area. She responded with "why you didn't bring any?" When we explained that we brought our shower towels but wanted to use those later and wanted some pool towels and that's why we asked her she responded with "no I don't have any, they're in the lobby and I'm not in there right now, I'm in here." So we said fine, she left and we used our bath towels. I then went to the lobby and guess who is at the front desk just standing around.. You guessed it. I then asked her for some bath towels to which she told me she doesn't have access to any bath towels just spa towels and that I would need to call house keeping in morning. The next morning we went down to the continental breakfast to grab a few things to bring back up to the room. The breakfast is in lobby right by the front desk. As we were leaving with our hands we walked by the front desk and could not open the door to leave due to our hands being full. The lady at the front desk not only managed to pretend not to see is but went out her way to ignore us when we looked at her for help with the door. After setting my stuff down on the desk in front of her to open the door and her just still ignoring us I opened the door and left. What's funny is that she couldn't be bothered to open the door but when we left she managed to follow behind us and slam the door shut. Finally, after breakfast I went down to the ground floor to get some ice out of ice machine and it was out of order. I went to the front desk (same door slamming lady) and asked if they had any ice available because the ice machine was broken. She responded with "why do you need some?" And I told her yes, I would like some ice for my cup (mind you it was a small coffee cup from the room) she got all huffy and told me that "she only had a little bit left and how much did I want." I asked for her the small cup to be filled and after making a scene of hitting the ice bag in the freezer and looking out raged that I was taking her ice, I 5 little ice cubes. Overall, this hotel would have been the one that we would love to come back to but after such horrible customer service it kills me. You could tell that both of these ladies took no pride in their job or in ensuring that the guests were happy and needs were met. We didn't think we asked for a lot but apparently we did and they made no effort to hide the fact that they were annoyed. One thing to look into too is the cleaning off the rooms. The bathroom sink is separated by a wall from the bedroom and asked draping my swim suit over the wall to dry it, it was covered in dust. Obviously housekeeping doesn't go out of their way to dust all areas of the room because it looked like it had no been cleaned in months. I think Best Western needs to change a few things around here... Mainly the staff.
Per price, excellent value. Hot tub, spacious lobbies, great service, proximity to beach, strong wi-fi, adequate breakfast. Our family was traveling north from LA on way back home to SF area. Were looking for interesting/quirky beach town. Morro Bay attracted us due the giant rock. We found interesting venues to visit in the environ, including the Montana de Oro, the Hearst Castle (plus wild herd of zebras!!!), and elephant seals.
It was my second stay in Best Western PLUS San Marcos Inn, Morro Bay, CALIFORNIA. Hotel is great, you can see the Rock from the office and walk to it in 15 min. Service is great, staff is very friendly, prices are reasonable. Hotel offers good value for the money, free breakfast, clean rooms. The is a hot pool on the ground floor with the view of Morro Rock. Two minutes walk brings you to Morro embarcadero with its shops, bars and restaurants.
We stopped at Morro bay Ca. We enjoyed everything about it. The best western was a perfect place for us. The room was comfortable with very very friendly staff. We ended up staying 2 days. Breakfast what great. Morro Bay is a very nice town. Just a walk away from the ocean and Morro Rock. Several shops and restaurants in town. And your walking right next to the bay. We would defiantly stop again.
if you are on the road from southern cali and travelling to or about san Francisco morro bay is the midway point and is as welcoming as all get out. and one of the best places to rest your head that night is the best western san marcos inn in morro bay. close to the boardwalk where there is a plethora of great restaurants and shops to while and enjoy the time, it's kismet. one of the greatest extras is the best westerns welcome wine and cheese layout between the hours of 5 and 7 pm which is, I must admit, a very good welcome, indeed. the rooms are quite comfortable and the sea view rooms have a great view of the famous rock and bay. all rooms have balconies and are quite comfortable. enjoy and take a walk and enjoy morro bay. I did and do.
Love this town and its location. Sea food dinners are wonderful and priced right. People friendly and great to walk to shops and out to lunch and or dinner. Fresh air and easy to get around. A great stop over between San Diego and San Francisco.
This hotel was very close to the Golf Course and Downtown, clean. Had Wine & Cheese nights, kinda cool but Breakfast was very simple, Continental at best. Bed quite hard but was able to sleep. Overall nice place, great location, nice view from room! would stay again.
My lady and I were looking for a hotel in Morro Bay that we could walk to-and-from easily in town. This was the perfect place. I highly recommend an ocean side view, especially if you enjoy sipping wine at night and watching the ocean, or a morning view over coffee. Very comfy beds and excellent room amenities. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. Great property, great stay!
Attentive staff, clean facility. Bay side of hotel offers pretty views, Good variety for breakfast and wine and cheese in early evening, Walking distance to downtown and embarcadero. the only place in Morro Bay my husband will consider staying, We recommend to all our friends.
Always pleasant and clean. Friendly staff. Stay on the 3rd floor with ocean view. Love the oversized spa. Great breakfast included. Right in town and steps from several restaurants and shops. Love staying here with the kids. We bring our bikes. Morro bay has done a great job with bike trails
This hotel definitely had some pros and cons! The pros first....VERY good location. I had a wonderful view of Morro Rock. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The wine and cheese "reception" was nice. The wine wasn't too bad and the cheese and crackers were good. Originally, I was disappointed that breakfast was posted as not being served until 7:30 a.m. when I had to leave the hotel by 7:15 a.m. to get to a meeting. But when I went to leave, I saw the office was already open and breakfast was mostly ready. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Cons....the hotel is VERY dated. They were doing some construction on the stairs. The carpet is frayed and they were painting in different places. From my room I could hear everyone coming out of the elevator. All in all, I would definitely stay here again. Hopefully they will have some of the updates completed before then.
With how highly rated this hotel was on TripAdvisor and having never stayed in Morro Bay, we booked a room here. My daughter was staying at the Days Inn for a golf tournament, but we felt like even though Best Western was more expensive, it would be worth the extra cost. We could have saved 1/3rd of our lodging costs and gotten the same experience. First off the staff was great and deserves a better product to represent. The lobby was uninspiring but looked clean. There was a terrible fish smell that never went away from Saturday to Monday. The room was small and at first glance seemed clean. The light fixture in the bathroom was visible from the bedroom area and obviously hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Access is not easy, but a good dusting every once in a while really should be done. The worst thing about the room was the shower. The curtain did not work properly and water got all over the floor. Wetried everything we could think of to seal the shower and water still got everywhere. Also, the soap, shampoo and conditioner are dispensed from large tanks on the wall which did not work well. Best part of the room were the beds. They were clean and comfortable. Overall, you can see this hotel concentrated on the beds as they were really clean and comfortable. Almost everything else was lacking in my opinion. I won't stay here again.
Nice Balcony, Pleasant stay. Room was clean and close to the downtown which made it just right. Would stay there again. The view when facing Morro Rock is wonderful. Enjoyed the stay! Did not try the breakfast that they offered or the cocktail hour they had.
My wife and I stayed at the BW Plus San Marcos Inn 2 nights ago. Our room, which faced east and over the parking lot, was located on the 3rd floor. On the plus side, the elevator was quick, the bed was comfortable, the WIFI worked well, and we heard no noises at night from guests in other rooms. The small balcony is a nice touch, though for us there was nothing really to look at. I liked having soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower. On the negative side there was a distinct and unpleasant odor on the 3rd level. I asked about it and was told is was from the stucco. The toilet in the room appeared child sized and was quite low to the ground. The shower stall was rather small and the shower head was installed too high for my comfort. The parking area inside the structure is tight and guests with larger vehicles may find it difficult to navigate into the covered areas.. We parked on the street but when it rained in the morning and we needed to move items around in our trunk, I did back into a covered stall. It took some maneuvering. The breakfast was a disappointment. The only hot food was via a waffle machine. The machine worked okay, producing small round waffles. But the mixture had no taste and we wound up going out for breakfast. The hotel, like most hotels in Morro Bay, is only a block or so off the main tourist area.
This hotel was clean. We requested a room with a view and a balcony. The kings size bed was very comfortable. The room is a bit dated. Staff was helpful and friendly. Quiet and restful. I would say it meets the minimum for a hotel stay. Breakfast bar use the usual continental: hot waffles, no eggs or bacon type food.
We arrived to this location with no prior reservation as we were on a road trip throughout California and I had no idea where we would end up. Several people had recommended Morro Bay on other sites and luckily this is where we ended up after a drive along Big Sur for the day. Morro Bay is a treasure - such a great stay. The hotel staff could not have been more friendly or welcoming. We happened to arrive on their happy hour where they have wine and cheeses and snacks for their guests next to their warm fireplace. This location of BWP is very quaint, but just a stone's throw from the main area with many restaurants and antique shops nearby - let alone you're right on the harbor - so close you can hear the seals talking all night long. In the morning we were woken by two seagulls on our balcony calling away. It's magical. The room was absolutely clean and tidy, and thoughtfully prepared. There is an indoor Jacuzzi on the first floor and breakfast is in the main little lobby with most everything you could want or desire. We just loved this hotel, and the people in it, and would recommend it to anyone. Ps. If there's any one tip I could offer - be careful where you park. I parked on the west side of the hotel and when I backed out in the morning I went right over the curb and was almost stuck. There is no sign that you cannot back straight out and it is hard to see that you cannot go straight back. It's probably just me but even my husband said that was hard to see - so maybe a sign or something with an arrow of where to turn out to exit would be a great help to others. Again - or maybe it's just me. :)
Stopped here overnight on our trip to San Francisco . We arrived at 6.50 pm and were able to partake in the last fifteen minutes of the complementary cheese and wine which was welcome after a long day. The room was clean and large but I can understand other reviews in respect of the lack of air conditioning luckily this was not an issue for us due to the time of year. Excellent location . I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Peaceful, great view of the Rock! Comfy beds, they have been going threw some renovations so there is some noise in the mornings but other then that its always a great stay here. Only thing that would make me love it more is if I could bring my dogs :)
Our MANY stays at San Marcos Inn, have proven to provide consistantly high quality service and accommodations. The location close to downtown, and view of the ocean, and nightly sounds of the seals, make our perfect getaway. The breakfasts are generous, and the wine & cheese happy hour are a welcome treat in an environment that encourages meeting new people. The employees are friendly, helpful and very courteous. Overall, San Marcos Inn is our Best Kept Secret!
Really enjoyed the ocean view but they need to improve their breakfast items. Also the hotel does not have air conditioning so the room was stuffy. I wish the website would've advised us of this. Otherwise the room was pretty comfortable
The hotel is small but comfortable. They have a large spa/hot tub and you can see the beach from the hotel. Breakfast was nothing special, but it was free. Wine and cheese tasting at night. I would stay again if in the area.
The hotel is nice but not a PLUS. It is clean, safe and has a satisfactory breakfast. I would stay again for the same purpose but not for longer period of time since there wasn't much going on in the location and the restaurants close up early and the shops open mid morning.
Our room was not air conditioned. Normally, it is not needed but we were in a heat wave, so the room was a little warm. Everything else was fine. The motel is 2 blocks from the Embarcadero and close to many shops, restaurants and attraction. We will not hesitate to come here again.
Had room 333. Exceptional views and was very pleasant. Staff was great and would stay here again. No air conditioning but with breeze from ocean was not a problem keeping cool. Staff even provided sparkling cider in our room with beautiful note to celebrate our anniversary.
We were very happy with our stay at the San Marcos. Our room offered a great view from the balcony and we found the staff to be welcoming and cheerful. The hotel is in a great location within an easy walk to a huge choice of restaurants and shops. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean and the wifi worked well. Breakfast was tasty and there was a huge choice on offer. The rooms would benefit from air conditioning.
Good views, central location to other sightseeing landmarks. close walking distance to rock. Breakfast was reasonable but a little crowded at times. The wine cheese appetizers in the evening were a good snack before dinner. Warning - no A/C.
The Best Western San Marco is not with the stay. We were driving up the coast and decided to stop in Morro Bay. This was more of a convenience stop as opposed to a destination stop. The hotel is just a block away from the beach so it's convenient however the rooms don't have air conditioning which is very odd if they call themselves a Best Western Plus. I guess the plus is the additional fans you have to have in the room to cool it down. The beds were way too soft and "lumpy". I think sometimes the owners of an establishment rely on the location and not the basic comfort of the customers. The cost of nearly 250.00 should at least include air. This may be a "local standard" but travelers deserve better. The front desk clerk was friendly and sympathetic to our complaint and gave us a fan and extension cord to use. Owners, take notice that you have failed in the simplest accommodation for travelers.
