"Good Value, but noisy"

Was just driving through on my way out of the Yosemite to the coast, so I have chosen Merced. The hotel was a bit difficult to find for me, because BW had chosen to change their logo. I missed the old yellow word «Best Western». The new logo is just to common. Back to the motel. I realized that it is very close the the very busy highway, as most of the other hotels too! Also, there are tracks of Railways right after the highway. And there are some trains running there! So if you are a train enthusiast like me, it's ok to hear that horn regularly ;-) The room was clean and the ac was running (it was about 94°F outside). I slept quite well. The hotel offers a nice breakfast at the lobby. Includes Toast, Bagels, eggs, meat, fruits and coffee. The price seams reasonable. I would stay again, most probably.

Not much special about this Best Western. The front office staff was very nice. The bed was good, and seemingly the standard bed required of Best Western hotels. The furniture was older and worn out, but not ugly or shabby. My expectations for a Best Western is a notch above this, but I was not disappointed due to the price. The A/C didn't work as well as I'd hoped... but it also wasn't terrible. I had trouble sleeping due to the highway & train noise.

This was a good place to rest from travel. The parking was very poor small lot with small spaces. The staff was fabulous and helpful. Breakfast was well stocked fresh and area was clean. Rooms small but clean and in good condition.

"Nice surprise for a motel"

Booked my business trip at the last minute - this was one of the only hotels that had any availability - i was a bit nervous about staying at a motel but honestly - this place is a little gem . Yes it sits right next to the freeway - if it were not summer and if the air wasn't being used then you might be bothered by the freeway noise if you are a light sleeper - the air conditioner totally drowned out any noise. The room was super clean - the bed comfortable - and they were also able to offer a state government rate. It was not a bad stay and when visiting the area again i would not mind staying here - Be forewarned - there is freeway noise - totally not a problem in the summer but i do think it might be loud had the air conditioner not been on

We spent one night at the BW Merced on our recent road trip. The room was clean and roomy but the AC was a disaster. Merced was under a heat advisory and the room was west facing. The AC unit was old, noisy in the extreme and basically useless. The net result was a hot and sleepless night. Further, the highway runs adjacent to the motel and the road noise is highly intrusive. We will not be back. On a positive note the staff were very friendly.

"Overnight stay during a motorcycle ride from CA coast"

The room was clean. Air conditioner located in back of room and did not cool room effectively but the pool was great and the front desk agent Kayla was very nice and helpful. She provided excellent customer service. Of course, it's next to highway 99 with traffic noise and trains but it was what we expected. Courtesy breakfast was served early and was hot and tasty.

Try to find a hotel in Merced not on Motel Drive. We encountered all night train and traffic noise. We also had a loud fellow travelers partying and having domestic disputes. Repairs were not up to snuff. Breakfast in a cramped dining nook was cheap and unappealing.

I love a good road trip.. my daughter got excepted UC Merced.. so I rented a real nice dodge caravan and drove from Oakland to Merced. We had so much fun.. I love staying at the Best western from breakfast in the mornings you cant beat that..

"Poor location, friendly staff"

I really wanted to like this hotel; clean, friendly staff, great breakfast, micro/fridge in rooms.... but after one night stay I can agree with a lot of the comments. It is impossible to sleep or to get to sleep. The freeway is literally outside the hotel driveway with only a chain link fence as a barrier. Big rigs, trains, cars with music blaring..you hear it all. I am a deep sleeper and I sleep with the TV on. The TV could not drown out the freeway noise and when I finally did get to sleep I was awoken by a loud boom and the train. I'll be in this area for work at least 2x a year and I'll have to look at the newer hotels on this strip; they have sound barrier walls and double pane windows and I hope they don't have the same noise issue. 2 hours of sleep on a work night with a long drive is not my idea of a good night.

Stayed here because the Holiday Inn was full! Never again! It sounds like the highway is going through the room. The heater was very loud but did overpower the highway noise, thankfully. The best part was the bullet hole through the wall. Once was more than enough!

This is a fairly nice hotel with very friendly service at the front desk. We had. $15 surcharge for our dog and be warned that they only have two rooms that will take dogs. The room is fairly basic with comfortable beds and a small refrigerator and microwave. Also very clean. The price includes a very nice breakfast and has free wi fi.

Very understanding staff, clean rooms with good layout. A/C unit is not next to the bed, but around the corner in the mini kitchen area, which is so much better as it's not blowing in your ear all night.

"Don't stay there...poor value"

Lots of highway noise, advertised as a best western plus but was not. Bed was hard and pillows uncomfortable. No safety bars by tub and tub was extra deep and hard to get in and out of. Toilet needed to be upgraded to comfort height.

Enjoyed the stay. Everything was in excellent shape. Breakfast was delicious.I would stay there again if I need to. The only little problem is the train that comes through town. It tended to wake me up.

We stayed in the handicap room which was very comfortable. The room is very large and easy to get around in. It was very clean and looked like it has been renewed with paint, floors, countertops. The bathroom was nice too with a walk-in shower. The bed/pillows were very comfortable too; the only problem is that the hotel is located right off hwy 99 so you do endure traffic some traffic noise but if you leave your TV on and so happens to be tired...you will get a good nights sleep.

Everything goes well. One item I would like to address is an early check in the first day.. I have to be at my place of business at 8:30 and there are times I bring things that must be refrigerated. I stay at this best western every time I work in a little town 10 miles outside of Merced. All I want to do is put items in the fridge. I can never seem to have this arrainged for an early check-in.

"Too Tired Too Drive"

It was almost 2am and we were driving from Sacramento to Palm Springs area. On our way down, I got too tired to drive. I had my 2 small children in my car. We called a few Hotels, a couple of them being Best Westerns. The one I stayed at had a room available and gave me a great price, AAA discount and welcomed us when we showed up. The room was exquisite. 2 big comfortable beds, huge fridge, tv of course.... was very cozy. We will definitly choose Best Western again.

Do not go here. Broken/ noisy A/C cycling with a loud squeeky noise every 5 minutes; when turned on heat it burnt something in the coils and alarm went off. Uncomfortable pillows, dirty entry etc etc etc. Very poor experience

I've stayed at this place a few times, and it has always been surprisingly busy. The rooms are nicely furnished and decorated, but you can tell from some details that it is not a new property. The noise level from the VERY close Hwy 99, is such that it would be worth their while to replace some of the old and damaged windows that I experienced.

I was travelling with my pet (large breed dog) so I had to find a pet-friendly hotel, which this is. I found the employees to be friendly, polite and professional and the accomodations to be clean and comfortable. I would definately stay at this location again if in the area.

"A few meters from the California highway 99"

The rooms are just a few meters from the highway. The noise of the highway is unbearable and all the rooms are facing directly the highway without any kind of protection. The swimming pool is even closer to the highway. We decided to move somewhere else.

Road noise at this hotel was the LOUDEST I have ever had at a hotel. The old school windows and doors are part of the problem. Other than that no problem with hotel. AC would cool room down very well but was "ok". Main thing is the noise. It was as if the window and door was wide open.

Nice place to stay after re-model is completed. Rooms are ok, breakfast is good considering they can't use the regular area until re-model is done. Very nice lady doing breakfast..... Motel has exterior corridors which is a bit uncomfortable. One employee seemed to be doing everything from evening check in to morning breakfast. She did it with a smile and friendly demeanor.

"Noise annoys, but friendly staff"

Just spent the night here as we were passing through town. Unfortunately all the rooms face highway 99 and the train tracks are just beyond the highway, which led to a horrible night's sleep. Upon check-in we were greeted by an elderly gentleman who had no name tag and just had us sign off and gave us our room keys. Pretty dismissive about trying to pay, but we learned later from the lady servicing breakfast the next morning that he doesn't normally work the night shift, so her and other staff had done their best to make his life easier. When I got into my room, the soundproofing was absolutely terrible (it is an older Best Western property for sure), and the room felt warmer than outside. The AC unit was all the way on the BACK wall, which meant that the bed didn't get any air. So my bathroom was freezing and I slept in the heat even with running the AC unit all night. At least it acted as a sort of "white noise" to drown out the freeway and train roaring through at 5AM. Bed was comfortable, but a couple of the pillows had a stain or two on them. Bathrooms looked to be renovated and were nice and clean. Have to say the lady serving/keeping up the breakfast room (they had to move everything into a converted guest room since the lobby was undergoing renovation) was extremely friendly and sweet without excessively apologizing for everything (I think they know that the location of the property really sucks, and they try to do everything possible to make people feel a little better). Breakfast, as always at BW hotels, was solid. Granted, there's better options in Merced for both the price and sleep quality. I would stay elsewhere simply for that and not necessarily anything of the hotel's fault except bad soundproofing.

I've been in some rather strange hotels before, but paying $100+ per night for an 85 degree sauna of a room is unacceptable. The wall cooler is in a small room on the back wall, and didn't Cool the room until 4am. Another sleepless night. Also, BEWARE, the freeway is literally right across the street from the motel. As a Best Western, Diamond member, I urge you to stay elsewhere.

"Slow internet, dirty towels"

Tried to set up internet, it was slow to set up and once set up, it was slow to e mail. Towels were old, and had stains in the corners. It was an unpleasant surprise. AC was noisy and it was hard to fall asleep. TV system had analog and digital channels, it was hard to see the analog channels.

Very nice hotel... all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is great and it's very easy to get to... the only drawback was that the room air conditioner didn't work very well... got hot in the room until later in the evening. The desk told us it's normal for this location and that there was a fan in the rooms to compensate... which it did to some extent but this should be addressed. Thanks to the front desk though for being so helpful... you guys made the stay a good one !!

"Great price and amenities, but challenging parking and breakfast"

The price was right as was the availability rivaling establishments three times as expensive closer to Yosemite. The room was somewhat comfortable with modern furnishings. Parking was awkward. There are too many compact parking spaces making it difficult to park an SUV. Parking was so tight that my wife actually had to climb out through the back seat and drivers side door because there was no room to get out on the passenger side. Breakfast was stingy. We requested two waffles, but only got one to split between the two of us. Best Western is a great brand. I've stayed at numerous Best Westerns. You can't go wrong with Best Western. One more comment on the parking. I had to move the car out of the parking lot and onto the street in the middle of the night, so that the driver parked next to me could actually get into their car without having to have our car towed.

We arrived early evening without a booking on a very busy night. The rooms were clean, and quiet, considering our proximity to the highways and railway. A great continental breakfast was served and the staff were very friendly. A fine hotel when travelling through...a good one nighter. Security cameras in the car park. Would recommend.

"Clean, basic, easy"

Considering this hotel is surrounded by highways and railroad tracks, we slept surprisingly well. The room was clean. The bed was firm. The breakfast was generous. One note: my in-laws had a pet-friendly room and their AC worked much better than ours. I noticed it was controlled via a thermostat instead of a dial on the unit itself like ours, which makes me wonder if some of the rooms have newer AC than others? That's something I'd ask about if I were to book again.

I always look for a Best Western when I am looking for a motel . I know I can depend on a standard I need to have an enjoyable stay. This location is close to everything you might need and has easy access to the highway. The security is good and I can watch everything going on in the parking lot from the security cameras on the TV . We ordered Pizza and seen the delivery guy before he even got to the door . Rooms are updated on a regularly. I like that always feels new but still like home. Thank you Best Western for having that security and standards that never change year after year.

"Wouldn't stay there again"

We agree with "Don't stay here." A train was going by when we checked in, but stafff chose to say their windows are double paned. Didn't make any difference to us. Very "worn" motel when there are many others to choose from, but since it was a Best Western we chose this one. Noisy air conditioner/heater. Only good thing about this stay was there was a Mountain Mike pizza restaurant in town!!

"A Best Western not worth staying at"

Hotel was right next to the freeway and the railroad tracks. The room was not sound proofed. There was so much truck noise it made it hard to sleep and when the trains came by the room shook.The next morning there were bugs in the room. The room was not worth the money I paid.

Hotel a bit older, but certainly satisfactory. Staff was very friendly, helpful & professional. The motel is conveniently located close to Hwy 99, & is nicely situated for a day trip to Yosemite. The motel is not elegant, but we have no problem recommending a stay.

"Don't stay here"

Room was a disaster - phone didn't work, tv was stuck on one channel, air conditioner very noisy...we were moved to another room. Both rooms were old with plaster having been patched in many places - looked shabby overall. Location was right beside railroad tracks , in a sketchy area. Very unsafe feeling. Seemed understaffed and as a result they were not interested in our concerns.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Location is great for passing through. Sequoia National Park and Yosemite are within an hour drive. We needed an extra cot which was delivered at no cost a night. continental breakfast is provided. Just a warning about parking, we came back after 11pm

"Good, Above Average Budget Hotel"

Tucked on a side road along with other hotels/motels (Motel Drive). This BW hotel is a majorly upgraded 1960s hotel. Though overall well done, the old does show through in the tiniest details. That said, it was a pleasant, comfortable room with flat-screen TV, fridge, microwave, tub/shower, desk and table and chairs. Extensive breakfast menu, including waffles, pancakes, eggs, sausage cereals etc. Easy drive to city center for restaurants and shopping. Motel faces freeway and railroad, so noise could be an issue. We didn't find it bothersome...slept well, hardly noticeable. Also has an outdoor pool and an exercise room...we used neither, and laundry facilities. NOTE: Some rooms still being upgraded, so ask for one. Avoid those not yet upgraded.

Nice room and ok breakfast. Bring ear plugs to block the noise of the highway and the trains. I slept very well in a comfortable bed. All the staff that I interacted with were very pleasant. I stopped here on my way to Yosemite. I would consider staying here again.

I knew this motel was near the freeway, but I didn't know about the railroad tracks. The first night we didn't sleep well for all the noise. We went to Walmart and bought earplugs and the second night was much better. The bed was fairly comfortable. The room was clean, but could use a little updating. I understand that the first floor rooms have been remodeled, but we have a dog and were relegated to the upstairs rooms. The towel bar over the toilet fell down and our towels landed in the toilet. Our door didn't lock unless it was pulled heavily. The cleaning people apparently didn't check it and left our door open all day while we were out. The ice machine never had ice. The breakfast was okay.

We Arrived at the Best Western Merced early. The internet worked well with both of us on it. The room was clean and neat. The Fridge worked but needed to be turned to a cooler setting. I wanted to use the outdoor pool, but it was not heated, with an air temp. of under 60F and the water measured at 62F. My only disappointment was that there was NO HOT Tub, so without the pool at a reasonable temperature, I did not get to float or swim. (Not a major issue because it was November). We could hear the trains go by, but due to the freeway being in-between, with walls, it was not too loud.

stayed here for one night on our way to yosemite national park in late september; the hotel is located along the motel drive, near to the freeway; it takes you a 20 minute walk to the town center. the rooms are basic but clean; the beds were good; the rooms were not that noisy as i thought (as the hotel is next to the freeway); wifi worked fine. the breakfast was adequate. price was o.k.

We only stayed one night but the stay was good. The hotel was neat and clean outside. The room was clean and neat and the bed was very comfortable and the pillows were not lumpy. the only bad thing was the traffic noise from the highway and the train tracks. I really don't know what they could do to stop this noise. I guess if you are tired enough it shouldn't bother you. The staff was great and helpful.

"Not bad, but too many things going against it."

All the downstairs rooms have been recently remodeled. We had a downstairs room, so we were ok with it, the cleanliness, the amenities provided. The air conditioner worked well, but was a little noisy. The mattress was a bit firm for our liking, but we have found that mattresses at all Best Westerns are like that. They are next to the train tracks and the freeway, so you might want to leave the fan running all night to drown out the noise. It didn't bother us much, but I can see how it might annoy others. There is a smoking area outside rooms 251 & 252, so if you get one of those rooms, you may hear other guests talking outside your room at any time.

"Trip to nowhere"

Had to take a trip to Merced California for business. Upon arrival at the Best Western, which was located right off the but was hard to figure out how to get there, it looked like a nice hotel. Once I checked in and drove to the room I found that the layout of the parking lot had much to be desired. The spaces were small and close together. Most of them had " compact car " stenciled on the space. Decided to drive around and sight see and was pointed in the direction of the local mall. Once I got there I found it was basically a strip mall. Not impressed. Once I got back into the room and turned on the TV ,the first thing that pops up is the images of the parking lot from the outside cameras. Never have I stayed in a hotel that you got to monitor your car from your room. Found out later that they have a large amount of crime in that area. I don't know if they have security patrolling or not. In the morning I went down to breakfast which was from 6a to 9a. I got there about 7:45am and was told that they were out of eggs. Only a few bacon slices were available and those were covered with a layer of grease. The toaster took forever to lightly toast the bagel. The orange juice was not working either. NOT impressed with the breakfast.

This was a one night stop for us on our way to Yosemite National Park. The good things first: staff was friendly and helpful, complimentary breakfast was good. Now the reason for the below average rating: the hotel itself was too noisy -- noise of the airconditioning, freeway noise and railway noise early in the morning, parking lot is very small (there is a bar next door which is where I had to park), rooms are old and not so clean, no elevators to reach the second floor, highly overpriced.

I had a nice, quiet and comfortable room. Internet worked very well. Staff was friendly and helpful in applying my discount coupon. Breakfast was reasonable, though breakfast area was rather small and can make seating a challenge during peak times.

The motel is right alongside a freeway and main railway line. Our room was nearest the freeway and sleeping was impossible due to noise. The accomodation is tired and dated. Restaurants are a good drive away within an uninspiring town centre, so not ideal for an overnight stay, most of which were closed on the monday night we stayed forcing us into a fast food joint. We enjoyed much better accomodation with good access to restaurants for similar cost in Modesto not much further north.

Very Clean. Comfy Beds. Close to a Night Cap. Well manicured swimming pool. Clean and Very secure parking lot and spaces under camera. 2 days left my motorcycle unattended. Great AC units... and decent sized overnight refrigerator. I was very impressed with staff and their outreach to please.

"Worst Best Western Ever"

You will be disappointed if you stay here. I have stayed at many Best Western Hotels and they have always been pleasant, this one was not. First of all they say it is a BW Plus. According to Best Western, it should have more amenities than a regular Best Western. Here are the amenities we found. A towel on the clean towel rack had a previous guest's hair on it. My bath towel was torn and frayed and was worse than the towels I keep in my garage to dry my car. The carpet was dirty and one of the side upholstered chairs had a grouse stain on it. The blackout curtains had holes in them. The room was very noisy as it was located as close to the freeway as you could be and there was a bar next door and the patrons were very noisy in the parking lot. The "free" breakfast included packaged food from muffins to egg biscuits and burritos when warmed in the microwave tasted like soggy mush. When I complained, I was told that a manager would contact me. No one ever did. So these are the "Plus" amenities that you get at this BW. They should take this property off their list as should AAA. DON'T STAY HERE! YOU HAVE BEEN WORNED.

Leave on the A/C. We arrived at 9:30 and were up for nearly 4 hours after arrival because it was so hot in the room. It was nearly 100 degrees outside that day, and still near 90 when we arrived, yet the A/C was off. I complained that night in the morning and received meek apologies and a fan, nothing else. Sadly, the room and breakfast were nice but I have to give a bad review because were were there to sleep.

If comparing BW Merced with Big Bear Lake Chateau and BW Gilroy, it is a 3. If comparing BW Merced with BW 29 Palms ( consider the worst), it is a 6. It would be a 6 if the freeway and train tracks (and noise) were not so close to the hotel.

For a pet-friendly hotel, it does not provide anywhere for pets to relieve themselves. There is a very dry, very weedy lot on the other side of the next hotel, but our dog does not like stepping on burrs. We did find a hotel with grass but had to walk several feet to get to it.

The room was not clean; the cleanliness of the linen was questionable. It was very difficult to sleep due to children playing loudly outside (well pat 10:00pm). This was exacerbated by the constant running up and down the stairs all night. I was unable to be moved to another room, as I was given the "last available room".

My family has stayed at many Best Westerns over the years- and in general for small towns they are the best hotel in town, and average about $100, some cost a bit less and some a bit more. But Best Westerns in general are a good place to stay- you can maybe swim in the pool, get a good sleep, and have some breakfast before checking out. Okay- now on to this one in Merced: RIGHT next to Highway 99 and a Train track...both are quite loud, the hotel has earplugs at the front desk- I've never seen that before in a hotel. The room just had a low end look,..the 1 recessed light in the ceiling wasn't enough light, even with the single nightstand lamp turned on.The beds were the hardest I'd sleep on without trying to cancel my reservation. The bathtub had a rubber patch on it on the base to repair damage- you could feel that the fiberglass was damaged underneath it. But the single sink had a granite counter top, and there was a fridge and microwave. The breakfast room was very crowded, with people sitting at the laptop stations, eating. The pool is in the middle of the parking lot, and faces the highway. I'd never go back to this Best Western, but there are many others that I would. Hope this helps.

It's 11pm here in Merced and I'm wide awake, for a bunch of reasons; someone banged on our bathroom window which is right onto a road, someone else has just shuffled past the same window with a shopping trolley, I made the mistake of looking up recent local crimes (thanks to the former two things), and the front door might as well step right between the train track and the interstate as it sounds that way... (really there's about 50 feet in it..). So take your pick as to why you shouldn't stay here, I'm one 'event' away from driving off in the middle of the night. Otherwise, the room is decent enough for the money paid. Lesson learned here though; don't scrimp because "it's one night". -joy... as I finished typing there's someone on a loud bike riding up and down the road behind (wheelies??) And a bunch of sirens blaring now too.

This hotel was advertised as a "plus" Best Western. It wasn't! The room was hot as the a/c wasn't real efficient. It was old and not upgraded. Parking was very tight and not real accessible - spaces were small and tight. It is located right off Highway 99 and the railroad. Not a recommendation from me.

This was a mid-way stopping point on our way to Yosemite from near Manteca. Reservations were made online (incorrectly, by me) and when I called to correct them, they desk staff was incredibly helpful. I had requested a room facing away from the freeway not know that nearly all rooms faced it. Upon arrival, the desk staff mentioned my online request and upgraded us to a back corner room, without the upgrade fee. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. It appeared to have been recently updated. The bathtub was a jacuzzi built for 2 with a shower option. It took a bit of getting used to showering without a curtain surround but it was actually quite liberating! The bed was probably one of the most comfortable we've slept on at a hotel. The one drawback was housekeeping knocking on the door at 8am! Once we let her know we did not need her services, we weren't bothered again. Yes, it is close to the freeway but our experience in the more secluded room was honestly quite good. I would stay again, if allowed to rent the same room.

This is rather redundant.... But I was dissatisfied with the stay. The room was less than pleasing. The bathroom was not clean. There was hair in the tub and the tub was not clean. The chairs in the room looked like they came from a yard sell and the room had an OLD and moldy smell

I arrived at the property around 8:30 after having driven 13-1/2 hours. The proximity to the freeway is scary, but the lack of insulation is more so. Between the road noise, trains, and the leaky toilet, I got no sleep. The bathroom light was falling out of the wall, the toilet rocks when you sit on it, the tile is broken all around the toilet and the closet door is missing a roller so when you pull on it, it smacks you instead of sliding on the rail.

"Not What We Have Come to Expect at a Best Western"

Wow. Where do we start? If you have read any of our reviews, you know that we are pretty easy to please and are quite understanding of small shortfalls. However, this BW property shouldn't even be a BW...let alone a BW Plus! There was NOTHING "Plus" about it. Let's start with the basics. The HVAC system was marginal at best. It is not uncommon to arrive at your room and the system shut off. That is understandable. However, 45 minutes after turning it on and adjusting the temperature, the room still was not comfortable. Two hours later it finally was "acceptable". Yet during the night the temperature varied considerably between being too hot and too cold. Moving onto the hot water issue. Pressure was excellent in the shower, but the temperature varied between being luke warm to scalding hot to ice cold and continued to do this throughout a 5 minute shower! Remember the old days when a toilet was flushed and this would happen? Come to this property and it doesn't even have to be YOUR toilet but someone else's! The bed was this property's saving grace. It was very comfortable and we would have probably gotten a good night's sleep except for the continuous loud noise from the interstate and trains. All night long. We have stayed at properties next to the interstate/highway and even next to train lines with minimal noise experienced. This is not the case here. Bring ear plugs if you insist on staying here. Now let's talk about pet friendly. We have a 10# dog that we travel with. As pet owners, we have a responsibility to clean up after our family member and others should as well. Not all do...we get that. It's a shame but it is reality. This property will charge $15/night for your pet (not unreasonable) but has no place for them to do their business. None! There is no area for them to go! And then there is the room. When we arrived, the musty and stale smell was that of an old motel from the Route 66 days! The carpet was stained in our pet room. The property is charging extra for the pets so they can recoup the time to clean a room after a pet has been there. So, do it! If that means a carpet needs to be cleaned because of an irresponsible owner, then do it. Don't just cover up the smell (or attempt to) with cheap deodorizers! Breakfast was not good. A frozen breakfast sandwich that could be heated up in a microwave and then taste like it came from a plastic factory! Juices and pastries were okay. Again, not what we expect from a BW property! There are other properties near by that one should consider over this one. Sorry BW, but this is not your norm. You should get ahold of the owner and have them do a major remodel/upgrade. Staff was very friendly and apologetic...but there isn't much they can do with a run down property. This is the first time we have EVER given a motel a 2 star review!

"Bed Bugs! Major infestation! Apparently, the customer isn't always right at Best Western"

We drove up from our home to visit UC Merced and we booked a room at the Best Western on 1033 Motel Drive in Merced. We booked two rooms, one for our three kids and one for my wife and I. This was the first night of our college tour for our son, who is a senior. The room wasn't fancy, but it was fine. The problem began when we woke up. My wife, who is allergic to bed bugs, woke up with bites on her arm and on her neck (see pictures attached). Now remember, this was the first night for us in a hotel after traveling up from our home - no bites before we checked in, and the morning after our first night, my wife and I feel like we've been attacked by bugs. We complain as we are checking out, and the person at the counter says that she will refer this to the manager who wasn't there at that moment. We went on our tour of Merced and then drove up to San Francisco to look at more colleges and to stay at an Airbnb. We never get a call back from a manager, but we do call again to complain. The manager isn't there and we don't get a call back until a few days later. The manager says that they inspected the room and found no bed bugs. So, end of story, I guess. I'm in the hotel business - my family actually owns a hotel. I know from experience that if you have a bed bug problem, a quick inspection will do nothing. You have to take the mattress out for full inspection and discard it if you see any trace of bed bugs or their residue. Best Western didn't make amends for a pretty horrible stay for us, and basically said there was no problem, so I think it's our responsibility to let everyone know that this place has a major bed bug infestation and the management doesn't seem to care about it. Maybe this is a smart way for them to do business, but sooner or later, things will catch up with them.

We were unable to get accommodations in Yosemite on our first night for the weekend. We decided to use the hotel for its value instead of staying in Yosemite for the second night. The hotel was clean and in good condition. The staff was excellent and helpful with local information.

The hotel looks good and the Lobby Lady was very nice and friendly, Check in was fast without any reservation, The king room size is not tht big but enough for one night. Mattress a bit firm. The not good things are the noise at night cause the hotel is located near the highway so earbuds recommended if you wanna sleep. Plus they apparently opemed the pool area up that night so we hreard folks playing in loudly. My wife had a very bad night. Breakfast is taken in the lobby,small room but was not crowded at all and it was ok. It was only $86 for the night

Also sorry to hear about the noise at the pool, our pool does close at 10pm so I will be making sure all my staff is keeping an eye on the pool and the time. Returning home from AZ and staying in many locations during the trip, this is one of the more remarkable stops. Marianne, the night clerk was so friendly, polite, curtious and helpful, that she should really be rewarded for it. The check out staff, Daniel, Steph & Jamie were equally pleasant. Will definitely stay here again.

"Friendly Folks - CRUMMY LOCATION"

hotel and staff fine - MOTEL courtyard facing a BUSY FREEWAY and a TRAIN goes right by it - I could throw a rock and hit a car on the freeway - buildings facing freeway amplifies sound level - previous reviews where they said it wasn't so bad were LYING or hard of hearing. The OFFICE is nicely sound protected.- BEST WESTERN TAKE NOTE - BUSINESS PEOPLE NEED MORE POWER OUTLETS - at least get lamps that offer outlets. to plug in a CPAP machine, i had to crawl under the bed and unplug the clock and the left hand side of room lights. BUSINESS PEOPLE NEED RELIABLE WiFi - kept dropping EVERY COUPLE MINUTES - worked better if you have a network cable and plug into wall.

I have had a few suggestions about adding more outlets in our guest rooms. I will be working on this issue with our maintenance. "Great venue"

A very well maintained establishment in a quiet setting. It states I need to provide 200 words in order to complete this. I will now attempt to provide enough filler in order to simply state that this establishment is a great place to stay. As stated previously it is well maintained and in quiet setting which is important to myself in regard to getting a peaceful nights rest. The city has all of the amenities one would need sand there is an array of good dining available. Lets see if the 200 requirement has been fulfilled.

"Stains on bedding, loud hotel"

I found stains on my bed sheets and pillow cases. Hotel is right off freeway and I was up all night. Train passes by also. Noise reminds me of the movie "My Cousin Vinny." Staff is nice and breakfast is okay. This hotel is more like a basic Best Western than a Best Western "Plus".

We have been staying here for about the past 4 years, on average of once every 2 months. The rooms are always clean, the staff is always excellent. The only problem we have is that we prefer to stay at the opposite end from the office, and the Wi-Fi is pretty bad there. I don't know about rooms closer to the office. The beds and bedding are excellent and the flat screen TV always works! We like that there is a nice little fridge, and a microwave in the room

With the exception of a few small inconvenience's this motel was nice. The staff was helpful and very nice. Breakfast was OK but I have had better at other BW's motels. I would recommend it to friends and family.

I have been using BW for over 50 years. This is the worse one I have EVER stayed in. The facility itself is fine- nice rooms, all the typical good BW stuff,etc, BUT it violates real estates' Number One Rule: Location,Location,Location. The Hwy 99 Freeway is RIGHT across the street, and the main Railroad line through the area is right next to the other side of the Freeway.That might ( but unlikely) be tolerable with double pane windows, better sounding proofing, etc. But what they can't fix ( unless they buy it) is the loud,obnoxious bar located next to the south end of the property.When the bar closed at 2 AM, the patrons moved the Party to the parking lot, had their car radios blasting, were yelling, drinking,etc. I finally called the Merced police at 2:45 am, and the noise stopped about 15 minutes later. But then the desk clerk calls at 4 AM ! and says she knows we called the police, and "is the noise better now?" Are you kidding me I had finally fallen back to sleep and she CALLS. I strongly suggest BW disposes of this facility and finds a better place, as this one REALLY HURTS the BW Brand.

Freeway noise, older, unimaginative breakfast. Management is doing a good job of servicing and maintaining the property, the beds are very comfortable. Staff is great. This hotel is our repeated choice in Merced.

No place for dogs to take care of their needs albeit a pet friendly hotel. No instant response for lack of phone service. No immediate response for closet door falling off hinges. Shower water runs too fully...should be regulated better for our drought-ridden state of CA. While it looks very nice from the outside, although they might be pressing the water usage, Needs better response times and care for customers.

I saw many reviews that commented on the noisy train. I stayed two nights with three other people and not one of us were bothered by the sound of a train. We did hear one, but not loud enough to either keep us from sleeping or bother us in any way.

Be warned that if you are a light sleeper then you might do better elsewhere. However, that is a generalisation and, yes, the highway traffic and railroad could be heard throughout the night, the staff were all very friendly and courteous.There was a breakfast available included in the rate which helped us to face the road for another day with a cup of tea and a bowl of cereal. It's hard to generalise but it is what it is and I am sure has no pretensions than to be an overnight stop for the road tripper. Have stayed at better Best Westerns but this was adequate for our needs. Remember the traffic noise though!!!

"Roach Motel"

Do not stay here, the sheets are stained and dirty, the rooms are not cleaned thoroughly, and there are roaches in the rooms. The hotel is near some sort of bar/karaoke place, which brings in additional noise in the late hours. The staff at the front desk had the nerve to say, "another hotel guest brought the roach in," I recommend the Marriot, it is only 3 minutes down the street, but worth the price.

My husband and I travel a lot. We do road trips and usually stay at different places each night. We normally try to figure out where we will be about an hour before we are ready to stop for the night. I get on my phone and look for hotels in the city we choose and ALWAYS look for Best Western hotels, PLUS if available. Never dissatisfied.

this was a great stop on our way from Kings canyon to Yosemite. the drive was not bad, location was a little farther from park entrance than I would have liked, but to save $100+ in the room it was worth it. a little traffic noise from hwy, but did not keep me from sleeping. beds were soft and room was clean.
