"Pay more for another place"
907HMS, 12 Février 2024

Old, smelly building, Loud neighbors above us fighting from 11pm to the morning-which we reported to the front desk and they did nothing about it because it continued happening for the 2 days we were there.Heating system did not work. They did move our room but then we had to deal with the loud neighbors. The one good thing was the breakfast, however the staff started putting food away 15 minutes before it was supposed to be put away. Pay more for the Compass hotel!

"Mediocre"
Jennifer G, 05 Décembre 2023

I was not impressed with this hotel. My first night there, the heater didn't work and after back and forth with the front desk, I had to move to a new room. The next evening, the card for my new room didn't work so when I went to get it fixed, I asked what might have happened and the front desk clerk got very snippy and snark and said "well, it probably wasn't programmed correctly." I didn't say anything - just let it go. The breakfast was mediocre - rubber eggs do not do it for me. And the hot water they had for hot tea was coffee flavored. So my "complimentary" breakfast for the week was an English muffin. I know it is Kodiak and a rocky island, but the parking is terrible. That was manageable until the morning I came out to go to work and the hotel shuttle was parked so close the driver side of my vehicle that I had to climb in the passenger door to get in. The last day - I was taking my luggage out to the vehicle and accidently left my card in the room. Stopped and got a new one so I could get my remaining items. It didn't work. Went back to front desk. Got it reprogrammed. Still didn't work. Went back to front desk. Got it reprogrammed. Went back to front desk. Was pretty upset at this point. She had been programming it for the wrong room number! Be warned...the fitness center is across the street. I didn't go use it, but I know a lot of people do so I just want to make sure you realize where it actually is. Also, be aware, the elevator only goes to second floor and PART of the third floor. I, of course, was in the part that didn't have elevator access. So be prepared for the possibility of hauling your luggage up and down stairs. Lastly, while the hotel was pretty clean and quiet, it is obviously getting very tired and in serious need of an update.

"A little worn, but still a great hotel. "
John H, 25 Novembre 2023

We always stay here when we go to Kodiak. My first stay was in 1973. Some of the rooms could use a little updating. This trip was a little weird because the weather was bad (blowing 40 mph) and we had to adjust our trip out hunting. The hotel was really accommodating of our schedule changes. Breakfast was great. They have a nice storage room and a large walk in freezer for fish or game. Staff members were very nice and helpful. Location is very good. Would definitely stay again.

"Comfortable hotel in the heart of Kodiak"
paulacullenberg56, 07 Octobre 2023

This is an older hotel in the heart of the city of Kodiak. Great view of the harbor and within walking distance of much of town, shops, museums, waterfront. Delicious breakfast. Despite having an older hotel feel, it has personality and the staff are super friendly. I have stayed here many times over the years.

"Kodiak"
JayC678, 28 Juin 2023

Was in town for a business trip. Great location very friendly staff. Free shuttle from the airport. Walking distance to the harbor and to restaurants and bars. If I ever come back to Kodiak, I will stay in this hotel again.

"Kodiak Ak"
ericjennoah, 09 Juin 2023

Staff was friendly and cleanliness was good. Breakfast was great. Hot and well stocked. Hotel is expensive for what we used it for. Will be staying again in November. Hotel has storage for gear while out in the sticks.

"Short but great stay!"
compass090, 10 Mai 2023

I stayed for business and it was outstanding. Everything is within walking distance, the view of the harbor and surrounding area was great! Rooms where clean with everything I needed inside, there's a restraunt upstairs which is great for dinner if you don't have transportation. Desk area is clean and all the stuffed trophies on the wall is eye opening if you've never seen anything like them.

"Bed changes"
thielenjr, 07 Décembre 2022

Booked my room months in advance of my stay. One room 2 beds . Without notice they switched me to a one bed. This happened 2 times without any explanation why. Hotel was booked so they offered me a roll in bed. That was like sleeping on springs with a sheet over it.

"Please.. can we have heat?"
TFredieu, 26 Novembre 2022

This hotel is old but still fairly nice. The rooms are redone and they are clean and comfortable. I only have 2 complaints so far after 10 hours here. One is that there is no elevator to the 3 rd floor. I had to drag my suitcase and everything else up from the second floor. Ok not too bad but not-really acceptable especially in a Best Western. When I got in the room it was cold so I turned the heat on and by 5 am it was 57 degrees in my room. I am from Alaska and that is too cold. When I called about it they said maintenance would look at it. I finally went downstairs to the front desk and was told there is no maintenance until the PM. I was given an electric heater so I can get ready for work. I would not stay here again unless it was summer. The young man at the front desk was nice. I am going to go to Wal Mart and buy a few heaters and just let them run in the room all day.

"Comfortable, functional and well located"
Jan01234, 29 Septembre 2022

The best among limited lodging options in Kodiak. Room sizes are average and ours were clean with comfortable beds. Location convenient to several restaurants, museums, fishing charters and an extremely well-stocked hardware store. Free airport shuttle. Downsides: a long walk or short taxi ride to the only grocery store in town. And with a hard check-out time combined with frequent weather-related flight delays, the limited public spaces can get very, very crowded. It would have helped if they had opened the "conference room" for additional seating and to let folks spread out a bit.

"If they would have just cleaned the rooms."
csmsales, 26 Septembre 2022

The restaurant was short handed at night, so service was so, so. French Fries were raw two different nights. But the waitresses were working very hard to try and make up for it. Rooms were never cleaned or freshened up for entire 6 days. We were all guys, but still. Breakfast Buffet could used a couple more hot choices, but overall pretty good.Everything else about the hotel was perfect.

"Great hotel, poor restaurant"
Shawn H, 24 Septembre 2022

We had a fabulous experience at the hotel. The restaurant was awe full. We went in for a quick meal at the end of a long day of travel. It took an hour to get our food. When it did arrive it was cold. The prices were high, the service poor, and the portions were small. I won't eat there next time when I am in Kodiak.

"Some rooms are noisy."
Gary S, 16 Septembre 2022

Two nights in 224 were fine and breakfast was great. A week later one night in 206, in another wing, had motor noise from outside the room. The in room refrigerator was noisy. I got up at 4 am for a 5 am airport shuttle. I was told it's first come first serve and there was a risk I'd be bumped and miss my flight. The shuttle driver was over 20 minutes late.

"Great place."
dadcg68, 04 Août 2022

There isn't anywhere to get breakfast so having the best breakfast even if there were other places to eat, right where you stay, is wonderful. The selection is varied and has something for every ones taste.

"It's fine."
shazbut, 03 Août 2022

The best western is average, but probably one of the nicer hotels in Kodiak Alaska. You don't come to Kodiak for the lodging! The Good - the Staff! Especially the bartender and manager - you rock! The rooms are average, the place could do with a Reno but it is clean and beds are comfy. The restaurant is good upstairs- nothing fancy but solid. Available freezer for your fish. The bad - the coffee at the front desk. The drunk from California that was detailing his nocturnal escapades at the bar. Real creeper - I have all the respect for the bartender listening to that moron. The ugly - nothing

"Friendly hospitality"
34raines, 03 Août 2022

Came to Kodiak for four days. When the Ferry service was cancelled twice, I ended up staying ten days. The hotel was clean, the staff was very friendly and so gracious to help me extend my stay when I needed it. They serve a free, hot breakfast which was excellent. The restaurant has a wonderful and tasty dinner menu. I highly recommend it.

"Great place to stay"
davewI2784AO, 15 Juillet 2022

From check in to check out Kodiak Inn was awesome. Karrie was at the desk and checked us in she was very friendly and knowledgeable. We stayed on the first floor as requested and the room was very clean and recently updated. Lola is a gem, she is always friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.

"Average"
Kimberley868, 18 Juin 2022

"Best" is probably not the adjective I'd use, but considering the circumstances of being on an island with staffing shortages, the hotel was centrally located, clean, and provided the amenities needed for our group. We had to wait an hour to get checked in, as our rooms weren't ready. The staff was pleasant although limited.

"The epitome of deferred maintenance."
IdahoTimber, 11 Juin 2022

Imagine a building built in 1968 that has very little care, and you will get this hotel. Chipped doors, filthy- looking carpet, caulking missing down to the subfloor in the bathroom, half the lightbulbs out in our room. When we walked in, the room was sweltering. They had to come in and manually turn off the in wall heater. But the heating system apparently works by boiler and the pipes pinged all night, keeping us awake. The windows were filthy, which ended up being OK because the view of Kodiak is pretty rough. This is not a great part of town, to be sure. We were on the third floor and had to take the elevator up to the second floor, go around two corners, and haul luggage up a very steep set of not-to-code stairs. We had dinner in the “restaurant “ that night which was pretty rough and tumble. Very basic. I definitely will be going elsewhere if I ever have the nerve to come back to Kodiak.

"Hands Down our best option in Kodiak"
aklaker, 02 Mai 2022

We were traveling with a soccer team and this hotel was a great fit. Breakfast was perfect, with lots of options for our crew of 20! The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and housekeeping was attentive.

"Great experience in Kodiak"
SEAN S, 09 Avril 2022

Staff was warm and friendly and facility was amazing. Good food at their facility with excellent value. Views from our room were amazing. Well maintained and beautiful facility. Easy to find. Check in was simple and staff very attentive to our needs.

"Kodiak Basketball Trip"
foisterjr, 21 Février 2022

Place was great, although parking is limited. Restaurant was really good with descent portion sizes. Wi-Fi worked great, room was spacious, bed was a little stiff. As for a Best Western it was one of the nicer ones I have stayed at.

"Best Hotel ever!"
emeryleebowles, 20 Janvier 2022

Beautifully decorated, super clean, friendly and professional staff. Wonderfully clean fragrance when entering the room. Restaurant food was really excellent. Though it was dark when I ate there, there are binoculars at the window tables, allowing for a better sea view. I thought this was a nice touch.

"Needs work. "
John H, 24 Novembre 2021

We stayed two nights. Our room was generally comfortable, but there were many issues that detracted from our stay. When we checked in we only got one breakfast coupon and had to go back for the second one. Our key did not work and we had to take it back. The room had only one Packet of coffee despite there being two people. The bed was ok, but not real comfortable. The hall carpets had not been cleaned in while. We had to drag our 50 pound bags of hunting gear up a long flight of stairs and then back down. Breakfast was quite good, the staff were all very nice.

"No heat and no service to fix it"
Kansas19592021, 27 Octobre 2021

After repeated attempts for service to fix the heating system, no one called me back or ever appeared. I was just told to get a space heater at the front desk. At 3:00 a.m., the space heater made it rise to 82 degrees. Room should have been free since it came with a lousy night's sleep!

"OK, Not Great"
Elissa T, 20 Septembre 2021

The first night I stayed here, the hotel was great. Check in was easy. The only downside was that the elevator didn't go to my room and I had to drag a very heavy suitcase up a staircase with no help. The breakfast buffet was mediocre, but I've had worse. The second night I stayed here, on the way back from my trip, was blah. The hotel canceled our dinner reservation saying they were too understaffed so we had to go to another place. Someone had a mouse in their room. The airport shuttle is first come first served, which means you have to wait around and get there really early. It's not the worst hotel, but it wasn't the best either. My showerhead was falling off the wall, too. And the water wasn't even warm. Guests were not wearing masks. Yikes.

"Yikes....what a rough experience"
Q6234ATjimb, 14 Septembre 2021

We traveled with a group and booked three rooms, for 2 nights upon arrival to Kodiak and 1 night at departure time. We had a number of problems, most of which seem to be a result of a majorly understaffed hotel. We had a mouse in the room and it took several hours to get someone to address it (which they couldn't). We tried to eat dinner there and were told they did not have enough staff to seat us. The rooms are not easily accessible (there are no elevators in the addition and no way to reach the rooms without carrying heavy suitcases up and down stairs. They have no valet staff to take bags to the rooms (which was hard for us, as both my wife and I( had recently had back surgery). One employee said she was alone and too busy to help us and another who said there are newer hotels nearby that were newer (but fully booked) and better.

"Great location close to town"
TOM Z, 07 Septembre 2021

The staff made this hotel everything. From the time we took the shuttle bus from thge airport to the time we left everything went very smooth. The room are clean and spacious. There are not many choices in Kodiak but this is one of the better choices.

"Terrible hotel"
beverleyromanin, 24 Août 2021

Room not cleaned 2/7 days, luke warm showers, maid shorted out electricity burned receptacle left uncovered, put on 3rd floor with no elevator after being assured we would have elevator, food at breakfast and in dining room always cold AND overcooked. Not open for lunch as advertised, 5/7 nights coffee not provided in room,

"Decent hotel"
johnnyanddeb, 15 Août 2021

Decent hotel, clean bed was comfortable. It is an older hotel and could use some remodeling however looked to be the best one in Kodiak. WiFi worked well. Breakfast was ok same thing daily, hash browns were cold every morning, eggs ok , you did have fruit, cereal, bagels also which was nice. No AC we went to Walmart and purchased a fan. Due to a medical condition my husband has to have air conditioning or at least a fan.

"Overpriced island property"
Skeeter M, 11 Juillet 2021

Old, dirty, dated and over priced. Hot tub water was yellow. Beds were springs and had plastic mattress covers like you would put on a crib mattress. Pillow had some sort of lock? Sticky head board, broken heater, bathroom was filthy including pee and boogers. Broken tiles. All for bargain price of 650.00 for 3 nights.

"Excellent overall value in Kodiak"
Ronald P, 16 Juin 2021

There are lots of different opinions about the quality of the Best Western Kodiak on Trip Advisor. I travel the world and try to have realistic standards about places to stay. I found the Best Western to be an excellent value in Kodiak. Stayed in room 337 and found it to be more than adequate with a king bed, bathroom with tub/shower, fast included WiFi, and TV with lots of channels. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I paid $20 for a taxi because I didn't realize that van service from the airport was included. The breakfast was wonderful with eggs, ham and potatoes in addition to fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc. Essentially this is a 3 star hotel with 5 star services. Also the hotel is well located to the Alaska State Ferry and numerous good places to eat. The Covid 19 issues changes daily cleaning for multiple night stays everyone's safety. Finally to eat a warm macadamia nut cookie when I checked in a 4:00pm with a treat. Therefore, the Best Western Kodiak gets a 5 from me!

"Best western Kodiak"
Kodiak1111, 01 Juin 2021

Be advised they do not clean your room daily and you are notified of this info daily . They leave a two page document of this info in your room explaining you should have known to find and read the info. Elevator does not work most the time but that's to be expected . Breakfast is handy and desirable.

"thou shalt not smoke"
salmonlife1111, 25 Avril 2021

I am not a smoker i do not drink I do not see how they can charge me 237 dollars for something I don't do. I checked out at 730am and at 10 am a house keeper reported me smoking in my room first off how does the house keeper see me in my room makes you wonder where the hidden cameras might be. Second I had already checked out and was getting on a plane to fly there for again I do not understand how they saw me and I call for a manager and am always told he they are not there. Well if there not there and seems to never be who are they paying money to to run the dam place.

"Broken and outdated"
rfrench2021, 18 Mars 2021

1st room had water spewing out of the toilet. Turned around and got a different room across the hall. Dumped my stuff and went off to work. 2nd room, the toilet had no water flow at all, probably turned off by maintenance to fix room #1. Told front desk. Maintenance never showed up. 2 days later, at checkout still no maintenance, still non-functional toilet. Flushed the toilet by filling up the old rusty trash bin with water and pouring it down the toilet. Overly perfumed room, probably to mask the smell of mold growing in the restroom. Overly hot room. Had to open up a window to cool it down. Bed had plastic covers to protect the mattress??? Do they rent rooms by the hour?

"Best bet for hunters or fishing"
502ryanv, 06 Décembre 2020

If you're just passing through for a day or so before you head off island this is the go to. The shuttle to and from the airport saves you 40 bucks. The full breakfast with eggs and such saves you $25 bucks (yeah, that's what you'll spend at a restaurant here with tip for one persons breakfast). Kind of dated in the rooms but the view is nice and overall it should be your go to. Not a true five stars but they care and are nice people and are trying their best for a small island and should be rewarded with such.

"Clean, friendly staff and good location"
The_McSmiths, 25 Septembre 2020

I would normally give this 3 stars for an average stay. However, for places in Kodiak, I think it's relatively higher. The room was spotless and the staff friendly. It was a bit dated and nothing special other than that. Our beds were comfy and the bathroom nice. We were only staying over here a night to be picked up the next day so it fit the bill. Free breakfast was hot and yummy. Be wary that it has an elevator but there are steps (just 2 or 3) as you go around corners or down hallways. So, if you have mobility issues, you may want to ask for a room with easiest access possible. It's right across the street from the marina where you can walk and see commercial boats which is very interesting. Within walking distance of Kodiak Brewing, Henry's Restaurant, and many other shops, so very good location. Would be great view if you have a waterfront view room.

"Convenient location"
Dee60763, 10 Septembre 2020

Stayed here one night before a fishing trip. Staff was nice, hotel was clean, location was great. Don't take a room on the third floor, you will have to haul your luggage up and then down a flight of stairs.

"Great location"
Beachwatcher14, 06 Août 2020

Great location right across street from harbor. Rooms are OK--comfortable and pretty clean, but in need of some updating (broken tile in bathroom, carpets worn). Very friendly and helpful staff. WiFi worked very well. Nice having a restaurant right on premise. Free hot breakfast was great. Restaurant had nice choices and good food. Comparably priced to other eateries in area.

"Kodiak experience"
krarnold84, 21 Juillet 2020

The staff did everything in their power to keep the guest safe during the COVID-19 times. The food for breakfast was individually wrapped. How thoughtful was that! The hot food was served by a staff member. The coffee and juice dispensers had signs on them requesting that folks use a napkin to touch the pour spout. The location is perfect if you are going fishing, you can just walk to the dock and the boats.

"Best Choice for a Stay in Kodiak :-)"
AitutakiGirl, 25 Février 2020

We stayed in Kodiak in this BW for one night during an Alaska winter vacation. While this hotel is older, it holds a lot of charm. We stayed in the bay view room. It was on the 3rd floor, and I think the only room on that floor. Though somewhat dated, the room was clean and spacious. Based on what we saw in terms of hotels, I believe this is probably the best choice when staying in Kodiak :-) The breakfast was extremely nice, and the ladies who host it very nice and helpful. It has a restaurant, and while we did not eat there, it appeared to be a good choice with an extensive menu. We arrived early that day, and were allowed to check in quite early (9am) since there was vacancy. This was very nice since there was winter weather that day. The service was very good, and they offer other nice touches such as coffee and cookies in the lobby. A nice stay.

"decent hotel, good breakfast"
katieJ_ak907, 12 Février 2020

Decent hotel in Kodiak. The included breakfast is great - good hot options including bacon, sausage, eggs, and potatoes. Plus the standard continental breakfast fare. The rooms are nice but the walls can be pretty thin. My only complaint was that the workout room is outside of the hotel and the supplied treadmill is old and needs to be updated.

"Recommend"
jscul, 31 Décembre 2019

I stayed here during Christmas week, as I was in town to visit my Coastie son. The room definitely did not look as nice as the photos, but it was clean, warm and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the insulated blackout curtains really kept the drafts out. That was important because the room (135) opened to the outside. If I were staying again, I would ask for a room in the main building that opened to an interior hallway. We had dinner in the Chartroom on Christmas Eve. We were glad it was open because most of Kodiak was closed. The food is good and the service was excellent. My son often came from the station for the Wednesday night burger special. All week, when people asked where I was staying, they said “good choice” when I told them the Best Western. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kodiak.

"Nice, but needs a little work"
John H, 01 Décembre 2019

We spent two nights. Our room was nice but needed some maintenance. The strange light switch would turn lights on in the middle of the night with no one near it. Some of the sheetrock work was pretty rough. Our room, 127, was near the outdoor benches where the smokers sit. It smelled pretty strong of smoke when we first went it. Staff was very nice. The breakfast was very good. Location is great. All in all a very nice place to stay. But, our room could definitely use some TLC.

"kodiak City Best Western"
Douglas D, 29 Septembre 2019

BW is in the best location near the center of town, accross from the harbor. Rooms are nice and include fridge, microwave. There restaurant-lounge has high quality food for dinner and a wide range of choices for a complimentary breakfast. Transportation from airport: taxis ride is about $20, Lyft was $15. There are no grocery stores within walking distance but McDonalds and a few other places are close. For fisherman, they will hold fish for you in a freezer. for those interested to buy fish you can walk to Island Seafoods down the street. I stayed at another hotel also-this hotel was better. Rooms sell out, so consider planning ahead.

"Great Stay"
Shellie M, 28 Septembre 2019

Always enjoy staying here as it is clean! The staff are super helpful and friendly. I stay here about 2 weeks out of the year total and they never disappoint. Continental breakfast is the best selection.

"Best in location, tops in service"
herfer67, 27 Septembre 2019

Seems like in the last 3 years, I've found myself in Alaska for business reasons. For a business traveler, consistency and standardized service and amenities are important. Best Western in Kodiak checks all these blocks. Customer service. All employees are versed in meeting customer's needs as much as they can. Front desk inquiries are handled well. House staff are efficient. Wait staff are specially superb. Shuttle service available though I didn't use it. Breakfast. The best part of the stay. It is a hot breakfast and not some heated pre-prepared food items. Meat items are rotated daily. Plenty of selection on juices, bread, cereal, fruits. No service/buffet style pick up your plate and clean up after yourself. Staff are quick to refill entrees when running low. Location. Can't beat the location. The town square/strip mall if you may is less than 5 minute walk. Plenty of restaurants and shop on this town square. Cross the street and down a set of stair is the boat marina. Turn right on this marina street are fresh seafood to order and ship to take home some of Alaska's bountiful seafood. Same street as the hotel is the town brewery and a Mcdonalds, your 1 of 2 fast food place other than a Subway. Restaurant. The same breakfast area doubles up as a restaurant at night. It seemed to be always packed. I had 2 dinners out of my 4 night stay and they have the best halibut Fish and Chips in Kodiak. Service was great, Others. WIFI was strong everywhere. The lobby was adorned with your usual taxidermy of bears and local wildlife. A gym was across the street. Room. I had a huge King with a hot tub. It was clean but looked dated. The room was unusually warm even if it was cool outside. A ceiling fan was kept on all the time and seemed to be not enough and I had to use a portable fan provided. The blackout blinds were helpful as sunset was at around 8pm. It was well furnished with a sofa, a few ottoman and a plush chair. There was a small fridge and a coffee maker. I will most likely return to Kodiak and will certainly book the Best Western again.

"Good Hotel in Kodiak."
354Bubba, 16 Septembre 2019

Stayed here overnight on the way to a fishing lodge. Employees were very, very friendly. Rooms were about average, but good for a hotel in Kodiak. Lots of stairs, but that was ok. Restaurant for breakfast was mediocre. Bar was ok at night. Did not try dinner (Went to Henry's instead). Hotel has a place to store luggage and an airport shuttle.

"Hit and miss"
AT6688, 12 Septembre 2019

Our room was just as expected, clean and comfortable. Location is good, we had a harbour view. The bar is great at night! Breakfast was ordinary, with no service or imagination. Check in counter also shows no effort.

"Great small town hotel, very helpful staff"
Moominmama506, 10 Septembre 2019

Very nice Best Western, clean and well kept up. Good hot breakfast buffet included, and also warm cookies and coffee in the late afternoon. . Dinner was delicous, and the bar was a nice hangout -- we loved the Saturday night performance by the quartet Under the Moose Head. I mistakenly left my iPad and jewelry in the room, and didn't realize it until after we'd left Kodiak. The hotel staff put my stuff into their safe and then shipped it to my home address promptly, once I got back in touch with them. I'm very grateful to everyone involved in getting my valuables returned to me.

"Great location"
Inspiration233257, 08 Septembre 2019

Great location, right in the heart of downtown Kodiak. Couple minute walk from a couple nice restaurants, just up the stairs from the boat harbor. Couple local bars, and the amazing brewery are right down the street from the hotel. And a nothing too fancy about the included breakfast. But it's not bad either lol

"Consistent Good Service and Helpful Employees"
Jerry H, 07 Septembre 2019

Having taken part in a family fishing trip for many of the past 30+ years, our trip begins with an overnight stay at the Best Western. They have been helpful and very accommodating. Their meals and tasty and include a wide variety for the included breakfasts. Their rooms are clean and kept up well. Great service too has been one of their attributes. Highly recommend them.

"NOT ABLE TO CONTROL ROOM TEMP"
Timothy T, 05 Septembre 2019

Beware. You cannot control the room heat. IT was super hot in the ooma dn the solution was to give me a box fan to prop in the window, and a ceiling fan.... They had no control. Maintenece said its a building wide problem.

"A Fine Short Stay"
BigP, 26 Août 2019

The Kodiak Best Western Inn, situated as it is right across from the large St. Paul harbor, and within easy walking distance to the small downtown, is ideally located. On our way to see, hopefully, some of the island's many large bears, my wife and I spent a restful night at the inn. We chose to eat at its Chart House restaurant that evening and we both had filling and tasty meals contrary to the negative reviews of many for that eatery. Considering that Kodiak has few other commercial places to stay, it is easy to give the inn a 4-star rating, especially considering that there is a complimentary breakfast every morning which was excellent. Two small caveats, however: The day that we were at the inn, the temperature was in the high 70s outside and in our room when we checked in, a sultry 82. The inn has no air-conditioning — it is in Kodiak, Alaska after all — and though there was a fairly lethargic ceiling fan, only a free-standing floor fan provided even the hint of any coolness. We went to bed and slept with it pointed directly at us all night. Secondly, it must also be noted at though the inn does have an elevator which prevents one from having to climb the stairs to either the second or third floors, there are still stairs on those floors which one has to maneuver to get to most rooms, something not particularly enjoyable if one is trying to move several large suitcases around. I cannot imagine ever returning to Kodiak Island but if we ever do, we would definitely make a beeline back to the inn. It is a friendly and welcoming place to stay.

"Best Western Kodiak Inn"
Freedom23352014060, 30 Juillet 2019

The staff was outstanding, rooms were clean , well maintained, and very comfortable. View from the restaurant was amazing. The have a very good breakfast and the attendant was friendly, attentive and efficient. 10 out of 10

"Fabulous view from the restaurant/lounge"
907Jenni, 19 Juillet 2019

Best Western Kodiak is my "go-to" place to stay in Kodiak. The people are nice, the facility is clean, and the restaurant/lounge staff members are friendly and accommodating for my food allergy. If you have a room with a view of the harbor, it is fabulous. If not, then hang out in the restaurant/lounge for beautiful view of harbor and islands.

"Avoid Rooms by Hot Tub and Smoking Area"
jbhaber, 08 Juillet 2019

We stayed here the night before, and the night after our excursion into the wilderness of Katmai. The first night was okay. The 2nd/last night we stayed was terrible. The first room we checked in to smelled like the inside of an ash tray. Although this is a non-smoking hotel, they allow smoking along the outside corridor next to the Hot Tub. The smoke easily enters the room through the a/c and ventilation system. The front desk staff moved us without hesitation, but to the last room along that row of rooms. It too reeked of smoke. But by that time, we had already been to the airport twice and had to switch flights and other plans due to fog conditions, so we just sucked it up and stayed in that room. Thank goodness for night-time sleeping pills or I would have been unable to sleep all night. So ... not a terrible hotel. But do, at all costs, avoid the rooms along the smoking corridor.

"Needs some improvement"
MaffieAustralia, 06 Juillet 2019

We stayed 4 nights and I have mixed feelings about our stay. Breakfast was poor and service non existent. Dinner was not bad at all and staff helpful. It was good to have a laundry available. Bed very soft. Issues with noise at night coming from the carpark gave me some sleepness nights.

"Wonderful staff and stay"
CHarper0418, 01 Juillet 2019

We lived in this Best Western for 10 days before moving from Kodiak. It was a great stay for a stressed out and exhausted military family. Our room was very spacious and provided room for a pack n play and dog kennel. It was very clean and stayed clean through out our stay. The breakfast every morning was always delicious and offered several choices. The staff, especially the cleaning crews, were always kind and accommodating. The Chart Room is the restaurant on site and has one of the better menus on the island so that was nice to have right down the hall for dinner. It is also central to "downtown" so you can walk to different restaurants, the brewery and shops. Internet was always great and never gave us trouble. The only complaint I have was the noise from the room above us. They were extremely heavy footed and dropped what seemed like very heavy objects at odd hours in the night. I would highly recommend staying here if you decide to visit Kodiak.

"Great location/staff"
AlaskaRed, 01 Juin 2019

Located close to restaurants, harbor, brewery and shopping. Breakfast is good. Bar and restaurant are full service. Rooms are average size, clean with frig and microwave. Some rooms require lots of stairs so if stairs are a problem be sure to let them know when you book. I stay here when I go to Kodiak.

"A Delightful Stay"
227craigf, 30 Avril 2019

I recently spent a night on Kodiak Island and chose the Best Western because of brand reputation and cost. It turned out to be a wise choice. My room was spotlessly clean (although the "view" from my window was less than exciting!) and it came with all the necessary amenities. The front desk person who checked me in could have taken better notes in her "how to be friendly to guests" class, but the person checking me out was a real joy. The hotel decor is quintessential Alaska including a gigantic Kodiak brown bear in the entry way. Parking is a bit limiting but other than that this is a perfect hotel for a short visit or preferably one much longer than my single night. The Chartroom Restaurant is an excellent location for dinner. Breakfast is described as a "hot" continental breakfast. Their breakfast is a full breakfast with a nice variety from which to choose.

"Nice room for the price"
Mommaof5kiddos, 13 Avril 2019

the food for breakfast was okay - not as plentiful as I expected nor was it as good as I had hoped. Felt weird to sit in a corner of a bar area when the food was in various spots and no direction given to you at all. The room was nice and comfortable. Bathroom could have used an update for sure.

"Great location and comfortable stay in Kodiak"
Culture30921644285, 08 Mars 2019

The hotel was a value for accommodations in Kodiak. The breakfast was wonderful and helped get a good start on the day. Staff was welcoming, shuttle service from airport and to the conference I was attending further saved on cabs or a rental car.

"Shady billing practices"
PristineWilderness, 01 Janvier 2019

Front desk entered incorrect card number. Received questionable bill three months later using a different credit card entirely. Called four times for clarification and proof. No apologies no follow up. Think they are creating fraudulent bills. Have stayed there many times over the years. Never received promised information

"Poor Service"
Blair_Murphy, 31 Octobre 2018

I choose to eat at the Kodiak Inn several times. I was dissapointed in the service all but one of those time. The bar tender also served the tables in the bar, however the place was never busy so I would think that she could cover everything. However, the waitstaff never came to my table and when she did she dropped off my plate without looking at me or asking if everything was ok or if I needed anything. My impression is that if you are not ordering drinks, forget getting service. :-( Very disappointing. Last time I was there, I ordered grilled chicken on ciabta bread, and the cheese was not even melted. I could not send it back, because the wait staff never returned to my table.

"nothing special"
Lorraine2010, 11 Octobre 2018

Typical Best Western hotel; there aren't many choices in Kodiak. Looked like it had been around for awhile. TV selection was pretty bad, very violent. Breakfast was better than most BW. Wasn't sure if they had transport to the airport, none was offered.

"Overdue a re-furb"
23425, 02 Octobre 2018

Stayed here before flying out to a wilderness lodge for a number of days, and then on our return from the lodge. A big bonus is being able to leave luggage here until needed on the return. This is probably the best hotel in town, but the town doesn't offer much anyway. The hotel is dated, and needs a thorough modernisation. However, it is understandable if the economics do not permit it. Breakfast was included, and the evening restaurant was average, though pricey for its offering. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not a destination hotel, but ok for a night or two.

"Best in Town"
Cynthia W, 29 Septembre 2018

This is the best hotel currently in town. Staff are friendly and efficient, cleaning staff especially attentive. Rooms comfortable and pretty well appointed. Not particularly handicapped friendly with all the small short stair cases. (I don't need a handicap room so I was on the 3rd floor but neither my traveling companion or I walk or climb well). Restaurant is very pricey (even for Island Alaska) and the food is good but there are better places in town. Breakfast was very disappointing. They have a reasonable number of choices but nothing to write home about. By the end of our stay, we were pretty tired of it.

"Overnighter before going on my hunt"
Craign01, 17 Septembre 2018

This the the second time I have stayed here while in transit to/from hunting trips. Very convenient location with friendly staff. Great lounge and restaurant. Excellent free breakfast with a lot of choices. Highly recommend!!

"There are only two other hotels in town and this is the one to stay at"
dldarcy, 12 Septembre 2018

The bed was comfortable but there's no air conditioning and the street noise is difficult to deal with because you have to keep the window open. Bathroom was fine. It was hard to get to our room, however. We had to go to the second floor, go around the corner, and climb a flight of stairs. Kind of a strange set up but the breakfast was hot and good. The woman checking us in couldn't get to us for about 4 minutes and didn't acknowledge us. That was a bit upsetting.

"Kodiak in August"
johnbalestrieri, 24 Août 2018

Quality place to stay. Centrally located in town. Clean room, firm mattress, good in house restaurant for dinner. Hot breakfast was good before early flight out. Friendly and helpful attitude amongst staff.

"Trip of a lifetime"
Diane P, 23 Août 2018

My purpose in visiting Kodiak was as a stop on the way to Spruce Island for a once/ year event in honor of St. Herman. The hotel was conveniently located, the food was good, the staff was friendly and helpful and we had a great time. A bonus was a visit to the library. It was great.

"Great hotel at a fairly reasonable price."
dbriggs425, 22 Août 2018

The only drawback with this hotel is that you can't roll the luggage carts all the way to your room due to the presence of 3 steps. The hot breakfast far exceeded my expectations - offering lots of choices.

"Comfortable hotel"
JanetteE59, 21 Août 2018

We stayed for 3 nights and found the room comfortable and clean. Good to have a microwave and fridge, bed was comfortable and pillows better than usual for this part of the world. Friendly staff too. Unfortunately the lift was out of action and we had to haul our luggage up and down the stairs. Breakfast was included but well below average, we made other arrangements for the next two mornings.

"Fitted the bill"
Russell4422, 20 Août 2018

We stayed one night at the start and one night at the end of our trip to see brown bears. The room was fine and the breakfast predictable but ok. As expected the hotel has a lot of people coming and going so there is limited space for sitting and relaxing.

"Alaska Fishing trip hotel sux "
ONdaroad15, 15 Août 2018

Upon check in, front desk clerk wrote down my entire credit card number on back of reg card. That's illegal!! Room was clean but dark. Staff was courteous. TV operation very confusing. Upon check out, I reviewed my bill and was overcharged for 3 of the 5 days by over $100. Clerk fixed it, but was disappointed. Breakfast was below average for a Best Western hotel. BW shuttle also goes to the new Compass Inn. Must be same owner. Will not stay again when in Kodiak. BW should remove from franchise.

"Our visit to Kodiak"
dbunten, 10 Août 2018

Recently, we visited Kodiak Island to fish. We stayed at the Kodiak Best Western. Due to delays, our flight in was 4 hours late and our luggage didn't make it from Anchorage. So, at 1030pm on a Sunday night, the front desk lady called us a cab and we went to WalMart to buy clothes since we had to be on a charter boat at 730 the next morning. They went out and picked up our stuff Monday for us. Great people and a great room. Clean, roomy and a fun time. Thanks!!

"A reliable staple"
jonworld, 25 Juillet 2018

We seem to be seeing more of Kodiak than we wanted as have had weather delays (no one tells you what a trap kodiak airport is for weather!) It has meant that we have visited the hotel twice Its old, a bit musty and has rubber scrambled eggs but it is a zone of stability when trying to navigate Alaskan fog and rain bound waters The beds are good and the reception staff very friendly and helpful

"Stay at compass suites vs best westeen"
elkiser26, 19 Juillet 2018

Owned by the same company but compass suites is brand new. It's a million times nicer than the best western where everyone stays; not much to see from the road but rooms and lobby are cleaner and more modern and welcoming. Both are too much $$ but you need to pick one. No restaurant here but coffee all day and simple bagels and muffins in morning. Workout room needs mats, rolling balls and additional weights but they are not quite finished. So happy that our reservation at best western got messed up and we got to stay here. Pay an extra $25 /night for a room on 3rd floor w a view!

"Reliable always"
Linda S, 19 Juillet 2018

As usual Best Western sets the bar for reliable rooms and services. The staff is always cheerful and accommodating. The rooms spotlessly clean and refreshing. The complimentary breakfast is great and restaurant in house was tasty, and their staff quick to greet and fulfill your requests. Nothing wrong here. Enjoyed everyday here. It's close for a downtown walk and across the road from the boat/ship yard. If you're going on a fishing charter, this is the perfect place when you need to get up early for your charter.

"Fishing "
RichC789, 18 Juillet 2018

They just stole my fish! I left it with them so it would be secure and the seal was broken and half of it gone! Don't stay here they are thieves.. terrible end to a great week of fishing. Never going back to Kodiak City.

"one night stay"
Donald M, 14 Juillet 2018

On my way to Katmai needed one night stay room was clean but kind of old, my room was on the first floor fortunately because the elevator was out of service. Breakfast was average. Room is overpriced but there isn't much competition and it is convenient to stores and restaurants.

"Great location!"
wall2wallcw, 13 Juillet 2018

This hotel is located in an excellent location. We didn't rent a vehicle because we didn't need one. Everything was within walking distance. And the hotel has an airport shuddle. The free breakfast was a notch above the other chains.

"Great location. Staff are terrific."
KLMMadison, 07 Juillet 2018

Located right in town across from the harbor. Includes breakfast, which is good. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Only room issue is that there is no air conditioning, which for most of the year is fine but we got lucky with GREAT weather in July with temps in the 70s. The hotel supplied a fan, but they do not fit in the window. Ceiling fan was little help. There is an elevator (three floors), but once you unload, there are 5 steps down to the rooms, so carts and wheels do not help you much). Elevator died when we were there (and in it) but their engineer quickly got us out (thank you). Will stay there again in August. Did have a VERY nice surprise there. We were supposed to stay there for two days on the front end of our trip and then again at the back end. Front end was a bust, as we could not get out of Anchorage due to weather. We were not charged for either of those two nights. They do not charge for weather issues. How's that for excellent??? Being already stressed about being stuck for two days and then no charge. A nice surprise. Thanks!

"Could not have better location."
bcs488, 03 Juillet 2018

Stayed in this hotel six nights while in Kodiak for fishing trip. We ocean fished for three days and this hotel is about a five minute (or less) walk to the boat in St. Paul harbor. There were six of us total and I heard no complaint about anything from any of our group. We could walk to any place in Kodiak and did not need to rent a car this time. Having breakfast in the hotel saved time also. Our last night (Fri) we ate in the restaurant and that was enjoyable with the exception of the noise coming from the entertainment in the bar. Would be nice if the sliding doors were kept closed so people could converse among themselves without having to yell back and forth. Staff is very helpful and friendly. It was inconvenient that the public computer was not functioning for the first three days of our visit. I needed to download and print a form from a fishing guide and he had to drop off the form at the desk so it worked out but how about everything just functioning as it ought to.

"You won't Believe this one."
James R, 24 Juin 2018

We stayed here for one week. Breakfast is good but just like most Motel Breakfasts. The menus is much better than all Motel menues. Reasonably priced. Prime Rib on Fri/Sat out standing. The service is great. Noise level on week end loud.Sit in the far room.

"Best Place to stay!"
skidoocarol, 24 Juin 2018

This was great! Great location, great view and friendly staff! Rooms exceptional clean and comfy! Great hot breakfast in the morning in a big room with an awesome view. We will always stay here when we are in Kodiak. Thank You to all the staff of the Best Western!

"Great Stay"
alaskataku, 28 Mai 2018

I've stayed at the Kodiak Inn several times over the years. It's always my 1st preference. This was the 1st time that this trio was for leisure and the 1st time I brought my wife. She liked it also. Looking forward to my next trip this coming August

"Could not have been better!"
Nanci9rfan, 21 Février 2018

If you're in Kodiak, stay here! Hot breakfast every morning and nice rooms. Very updated. The staff was really friendly and strive to make sure you have everything. Great location and close to all the downtown stores and restaurants. Restaurant at hotel has fantastic food. Fish and chips, best on the island.

"The best place to stay in Kodiak"
575sethm, 05 Février 2018

The Western in Kodiak has the best breakfast buffet of any BW; staff is always helpful. The gym is across the street and small but has top of the line equipment. HBO in the rooms, and a full service bar lounge on the second floor.

"Great Service"
gelia431, 30 Décembre 2017

This hotel has great staff who are always friendly and helpful, especially the front desk. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurant food is good and the lounge has friendly staff. I would recommend highly!

"Great place to stay in Kodiak"
Meg123456, 28 Décembre 2017

Good hotel with a great location. Everything was clean and staff are lovely. Easy walk around town from the hotel and great views. Would recommend staying a few days and getting a car to have a look around the island if you are not doing a fly out fishing or hunting trip. Kodiak is just gorgeous,.

"The Best Western of Kodiak"
Cliff D, 24 Décembre 2017

Easy check in and out. Good breakfast. Everything feels clean. Staff very friendly. Close to all of down town Kodiak, easy walking distance to just about everything. Our room had a great view of the harbor which is just across the street, down some steps and across one more street. Have stayed here in the past and will stay here again.

"Excellent"
252rhondas, 21 Décembre 2017

I truly enjoyed my stay. The staff is fantastic!!! I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone that visits Kodiak AK. The people are friendly and there are lots of local activities to attend. Choose Best Western.

"Great place to visit"
Joey J, 02 Décembre 2017

People were great. View was good. Food was good. Very thing was good. I like the mini mouth washes they give you. No one dose that. And I i have been to 100's of hotels. For work. That is cool. I would recommend

"Hunters Lodge"
John A, 12 Novembre 2017

This is the hotel were a lot of the hunters will stay while visiting Kodiak. They have a pretty good happy hour. Taco Tuesday with a good variety to choose and Burgers n Brew on Wednesday. Best deal in town for $11

"Good place to stay in Kodiak"
O1167AAmarkm, 20 Octobre 2017

Your choices can be limited in places to stay in Kodiak Alaska, I do recommend this Hotel, it is clean, decent rooms for a remote location, and a good complimentary breakfast with nice choices. I once stayed at the Choice Hotel at the airport, but will never stay there again. The location is nice, there are several places to eat within

"Nice place in Kodiak"
Cvilla1955, 11 Octobre 2017

Recent stay to Kodiak was done, staying at the Best Western and had a really good meal too. The driveway is slanted and can be slippery. Staff was great, the room was clean, and quiet night. We had dinner and drinks, good time had by all.

"The only chain hotel, thats why..."
Ina367, 29 Septembre 2017

It looks commercial from the outside just as expected but this hotel is run-down. It has two areas: forward (part of the original building) the backside ground floor, may be the newer addition? Rooms on the second floor look over the roof of the main building and the harbor. From the carpet to the aged furniture the rating hovers around a c+. The bonus's are the friendly staff, the free breakfast. And if your traveling on foot there is a communal storage closet where luggage can sit until your flight or ferry departs. Plus courtesy shuttle to car rental depot or ferry terminal.

"Best best Western I have ever stayed at. Staff was top notch."
C2104VEcarolj, 23 Septembre 2017

Rooms clean, quiet and comfotable. Staff super helpful and able to accommodate every request. Offers free shuttle to the harbor and airport. Continental breakfast was very good, offered different optons on the hot foods, something for everyone. Very good experience.

"September"
363gracev, 22 Septembre 2017

Excellent, would definitely stay here again. Room was clean, front desk was helpful. No complaints or problems during my stay. Highly recommend if staying in Kodiak. Convenient location. I recommend renting a vehicle to for easy access to other amenities.

"Kodiak Fishing Expedition"
778charleseb, 19 Septembre 2017

The folks running this hotel are wonderful and very, very helpful. The rooms are clean and the food, especially dinner is excellent. A bit dated facilities, but very clean and comfortable for a fishing trip!!

"Great location, nice Bar area"
Robert F, 05 Septembre 2017

Great location, hotel staff always made van available to go to and from Airport to get a rental car. King Bed was so comfortable! New building only has elevator to second floor and stairs to third. Might want to consider that if unable to do stairs. But the third floor also has vaulted ceiling and ceiling fans, which gave it a more open feeling.

"Comfortable Hotel"
Michael A, 23 Août 2017

The hotel was everything we expected and needed. One odd thing is that it is a split level hotel with some rooms quite a distance from reception and can only be accessed by stairs (i.e. no lift). The breakfast was extensive and ample. While the fitness centre was across the road it was very well setup.

"nice"
kevingV5531EC, 19 Août 2017

Great place. Nice outside when the water is running in the creeks. Like the decor, able to sit outside. Layout of the Hotel can be confusing, which the kids will Love getting lost. Parking can be a little be challenging when full. Have always been able to find a place to park.

"Enjoy Kodiak for your Wedding or Vacation"
daliet2017, 16 Août 2017

Our Clay is in the USCG stationed in Kodiak, AK. He and his wife decided to get married there in early Aug. 2017. Over 95% of our family has never been to AK. Over 30 family members came to Kodiak and most of us stayed at the Best Western. A few stayed at a Bed & Breakfast, but when their flight was cancelled stayed at the BW. All that had been at a B&B said they wished they had spent the whole time at the BW. We were very pleased with the accommodations and food, but the personal service from all the staff in all departments was the highlight. We will recommend all our friends and family to visit Kodiak and stay at the Best Western!

"I've Had Better"
C751EDnicolen, 08 Août 2017

Although the food and staff are amazing, the rooms are old and run down. The halls are tight. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone that does not like tight spaces or wants air conditioning. For the price, I would highly recommend looking into a B&B verses staying at this hotel.

"Kodiak BW"
246raey, 08 Août 2017

Captive audience....very other little choice of accommodations. It was a nice stay. Old building. I found it difficult to carry my heavy luggage upstairs to my room. I was there for a wedding. For those there on vacation, it was very nice. Within walking distance of most everything. Staff was very helpful and professional. Cancelled flights into/out of Kodiak presented challenges for them, but they handled everything!

"Very clean and nice"
elizabethgT8664XG, 04 Août 2017

Hotel overall was in excellent shape and very nice. Lighting in room could be updated and maybe move the ceiling fan from over the tv to over the beds where you can actually feel it. Free breakfast was very nice. Dinner in the restaurant was nice but very pricy and not any options for kids meals. Hotel was quiet. Parking was horrible, they only have about 15 parking spots, rest is street parking and sometimes have to park 1/4 mile from hotel.

"Kodiak"

First time in Kodiak. Loved the restaurant and staff. I do not know how to express the friendliness of the staff. the room was spacious and clean. the food was fantastic! I would stay there again if I get the chance, next time I will bring a swim suit to enjoy the hot tub.

"Amazing Customer Service"

Great location in the downtown area with wonderful views of the harbor & surrounding area. Clean & comfortable facility. Terrific & friendly service from the staff, especially the folks at the front reception desk. Super helpful with storing our luggage for a party of twelve & the convenient shuttle service. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!!

"One night stay"
aloysiusdonaldj, 01 Août 2017

The building is old and could use some remodeling. The rooms and beds are OK. The shower is OK. The restaurant is outstanding. Very good breakfast and dinner. The desk staff are very efficient and friendly. We would stay there again.

"Expensive and Not Very Nice"
westfordjoe, 01 Août 2017

There aren't a lot of hotel choices in Kodiak, and it appears that the owner of the Best Western Kodiak Inn and Convention Center knows that. The hotel is expensive, and not very nice. It was clean enough; I'll give them that. But it was very outdated, was sorely in need of remodeling, and had maintenance issues. Neither the bathroom sink nor tub drains worked properly. It took about 30 minutes of fiddling with the remote control for the noisy ceiling fan to get it turned off. (You apparently have to first remove the remote control from the wall socket.) The décor, furnishings, and overall appearance of the hotel are dark, dreary, and outdated. If this is the best you can find, you can still get a decent night's sleep, and the free breakfast was good. But the hotel owner clearly isn't putting much of their revenue into improvements and maintenance.

"Fishing Trip"
idahogal2016, 19 Juillet 2017

Trip with family & friends. We usually stay at Kodiak Best Western prior to going to remote fishing lodge. Good location with excellent shuttle service. Excellent Service from all staff. Restaurant is very good. Front desk Staff is excellent! Some difficulty in accessing rooms, as elevator does not go to all rooms on 3rd floor. If you have handicap or difficulty walking upstairs, be sure to ask for easy access rooms.

"Superior location."
Corey W, 11 Juillet 2017

Pros: -Location: The hotel is maybe 100 yds from the St Paul Harbor marina where the charter boats work. The downtown area is small so you're only a couple blocks from just about anything you might need if you're there for fishing. -Free Breakfast: Free breakfast is good, not great and never varied. The staff gladly filled my thermos each morning on my way out. Nice view of the harbor from breakfast. Breakfast from 6am to 8am so plenty of time to eat before heading out fishing. -Free shuttle: Arrived very quickly when we called from the airport. Also took us to pick up our fish before heading to the airport. -Free wifi: worked well throughout the hotel. -Big flatscreen and mini fridge in the room. Cons: -Towels: There were 4 of us and every single day we had to request a 4th towel. It was so consistent it makes me think 3 towels must be on some checklist. -Heat: We turned the heat off on the first day but still had to sleep with the window open because the room was so hot. It was about 50-55 degrees outside so the room (#313) must be something to do with the location. We never complained so I don't know how the hotel would have responded. Laundry: Laundry only had one guest washer. It closed at 9pm so not easy to get laundry done when you are competing with other guests. Summary: the hotel might be one of the best ones in the downtown area but this is Kodiak so come with appropriate expectations. I would stay again.

"Kodiak Best Western"
N132YCrobertp, 05 Juillet 2017

The lobby staff were very helpful when we arrived. They allowed us to store our fish catch in the freezer. Our room was on the third floor and there was no elevator to the third floor. NOT COOL. Because we were in AK for 14 days, we each had a large piece of luggage. We had to get it up the sixteen steps from the second floor to the third and my husband had a baddddd knee. Not COOL at all. The room itself was nice and well lit. The bed comfortable and in good order as far as linens, etc.. The TV didn't work, so we had to ask for help and the toilet barely flushed. That said, we were on an island so we were guessing the water pressure might not be that great. The restaurant is pointless. Terrible food and one staff member who was actually attentive. The shuttle driver, taking us to the airport, was wonderful. VERY personable and full of stories. We enjoyed his company very much.

"Bad Parking"

This was a multiple week stay for work. The parking availability for this location is horrible, people going to the bar take up the majority of the spaces. Had to walk two blocks in heavy weather with a two year old nearly every day. Brought this up to the front desk multiple times to different staff and the answer every time was deal with with.

"Good central location for this very small town"
L U, 24 Juin 2017

We stayed two nights and were perfectly happy with our room. The bed was very comfortable! The motel addition is designed a bit oddly, but that just added to the eclectic Alaska ambience. Note that the on-site restaurant, The Chartroom, is POOR. Try Henry's or the Powerhouse (seems to be where the locals go).

"Best western Kodiak"
gelia431, 22 Juin 2017

Staff was excellent and very friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean. They were very helpful and knowledgeable of the island. I would highly recommend this hotel over any of the others in town!

"Good central location to stay in Kodiak"
Ron M, 10 Juin 2017

Recently stayed for a work trip. For remote Alaska it is a great hotel. With that said the hotel is older but has lots of character. Rooms feel recently updated; however, they are not that large should you be staying longterm or with kids. They offer free breakfast; however, it is nothing noteworthy.

"Stayed for Business"
742stanleym, 06 Juin 2017

Friendly and helpful staff, great food in the Chart Room and located in walking distance to the marina. Got to enjoy watching Eagles playing and Boats going in and out of the Harbor. Spectacular views.

"Great stay as usual"
Raymond K, 04 Juin 2017

Always a pleasure to stay at the Kodiak Inn, the staff are always courteous and friendly. The rooms are clean and well laid out. The hotel is within walking distance to a few great restaurants and the Kodiak Island brewery.

"nice place to stay in Kodiak, Alaska"
patriciabK7443BB, 03 Juin 2017

Older hotel with a bit of a maze to negotiate to my room but the room was clean and comfy, location was perfect. The staff was helpful and friendly, the breakfast provided was much appreciated. Shuttle to and from the airport was prompt.

"very convienent location and clean rooms"
brendacO1712UY, 02 Juin 2017

I would recommend this place for both liesure or business travlers as the location is very convienent and place was very clean; people very friendly at the front desk. The price is normal for the state of Alaska with that bedtax, but reasonable.

"Right in the heart of Kodiak"
ohmadamoh, 01 Juin 2017

Nice central location in downtown Kodiak. Walking distance to restaurants. Came in during 2017 Crabfest. Also dental convention going on. Totally annoying family with at least 4 kids AND grandparents but that is not hotels issue. Loud hallways. I didn't ask hotel about hotel info.

"Great Place"
G1772WKgaryd, 30 Mai 2017

The people in Kodiak at the best western are SO helpful! The hotel is right in the middle of town across from the harbor. Staff was attentive and very friendly. Food was great. We will come back to stay at this hotel again!

"The good & the bad "
Q8107OSashleyb, 28 Mai 2017

This hotel does allow dogs, so that's a good thing when traveling to and from Kodiak. I will tell you to not sit in the hot tub. I got hot tub rash from a 15 minute dip. I asked about how often it was cleaned and inquired about the water level and the hotel maintenance man was supposed to fix everything. Room service messed up our food order from chart room and we waited 45 minutes for two appetizers. If you stay here, lower your expectations.

"Kodiak Stay"
G549RVjoshc, 27 Mai 2017

The location and helpfulness of the staff, to go with the food in the restaurant were excellent. The only thing that I down grade from a 10 across the board is the lack of power outlets. If you are going and have business to do in the room, bring a surge protector.

"Excellent Time!"
michelle r, 26 Mai 2017

Great staff! Very nice rooms. Had a really nice time the week my dad and I were there. The staff was great with information about places to see. Nice hot tub to relax sore muscles after walking all day. Overall a great place to stay!

"Hot room 202"
AlaskanEyes, 18 Mai 2017

If you like the 82 degree indoor temps, ask for room 202. It's better if you ask for it that way some unsuspecting coolness-loving dupe like me won't get saddled with it. Of course I tried the usual steps, the window, the fan, the lights, all to no avail. Thermostat reads 82. I wished I had been given informed consent to this customer bakeoff experiment of theirs, and yes I would have willingly accepted being the he subject of their experiment for a large fee of course. The do have to do their laundry which generates tremendous thermal load right below room 202, but they would rather not disclose this fact upfront, they prefer instead to silently see if you'll really complain, leave, demand a refund, or write about them on TripAdvisor. Should I demand to see their data?

"Great Stay, Nice Food"
Grace L, 18 Mai 2017

The location is a great spot, It overlooks the harbor with all the fishing boats. I think the best part would have been the food. The hotel has a restraunt upstairs. The worst part would be the Fish smell. When you overlook the harbor there is a cannery!

"A bed to die for, but building needs a bit of work"
comcox, 14 Mai 2017

This was a last minute stay when I decided to "abandon ship" off a Holland America cruise that was not going well. The front desk staff was great in finding me a room and storing my bags until check-in time while I went off on tour. This hotel is very well located in the center of Kodiak with several eateries, shops and local museums all within walking distance. The hotel includes a restaurant and bar but I only had the included continental buffet breakfast there which included a good variety of food. The hotel is a bit old but it does have an elevator. Actually the hotel consists of two buildings connected by hallways that do involve going up and down a few steps to navigate between the main building and the one behind (just a note in case you are lugging a heavy rolling back as I was). The lobby has high ceilings, comfortable seating, a nice fire place and several stuffed animal heads (I think hunters make up a good portion of their regular clientele). There is wifi throughout the building and it worked well. My room was located on the second floor in the back building, so no view, but it was quiet which is what I requested. As I mentioned in the title this was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever had; I slept eleven hours straight. There was also a large screen television with an amazing number of channels. The room also included a small refrigerator and microwave oven. However, there are no convenience or grocery store within walking distance so I was not able to use these. My primary complaint was about the room temperature. I made sure the heating was set to off but the gauge read 75 degrees. I opened the window, which only opened a few inches, and turned on the ceiling fan. However, that proved a bit noisy so I turned if off when I went to bed. The room never really got any cooler even though it was probably about 40 degrees outside that night. I expect this hotel would be extremely uncomfortable in the summers. It would be great if they could install air conditioning. Two restaurants with walking distance were Henry's Great Alaska and the Aquamarine Café, both located in the "mall". I had a great meal at each during my stay so I highly recommend them. I would also recommend Dake of Memory Makers Tours for guiding services. He is very flexible to work with in putting together a tour of whatever wildlife and sights you wish to see. Kodiak is a gorgeous place to visit and I don't regret leaving the ship at all. The hotel provided a nice, if a bit stuffy, stay in a good location for exploring the town. I would stay here again but I would avoid doing so in warm weather.

"Diamond on the island"
573heathero, 29 Avril 2017

Great hotel, clean comfortable and love the daily hot breakfast! The restraunt has top chef dinners and the views are breath taking. The rooms offer a great tv selection and high speed internet is great for late night work!!

"Best Hotel on Kodiak Island"
Lynn N, 24 Avril 2017

I have stayed in all the hotels on Kodiak Island and the Best Western is by far the best hotel on the island. Friendly helpful staff, comfortable rooms and a great restaurant/bar. Breakfast is ample and fast.

"Nice Hotel"
christopherj164, 23 Avril 2017

The stay here will be good. It's right next to the harbor which is nice and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are satisfactory and you won't feel grossed out by finding dirty sheets etc. and the bathroom is clean with plenty of hot water for the shower.

"Amazing scenery"
Hope J, 11 Avril 2017

This is one of my favorite Best Western hotels, the view from the restaurant and bar is amazing. I have seen a pod of orcas swimming down the channel while eating lunch. Clean, friendly and conveniently located, a five minute walk takes you to all the restaurants and downtown shopping.

"Great Location"
jmburger921, 05 Avril 2017

This hotel is in a perfect downtown location to walk to small shops, and local restaurants. The front desk staff where friendly and gave great restaurant advice. It has a good complementary breakfast with a selection of hot and cold items. The hotel structure itself is aging- and there are a few flights of small winding stairs to reach the room levels. There one elevator but if there is a line for it, be prepared for stairs!

"Nice Stay"
christiedd, 03 Avril 2017

Good stay, close to everything. Biggest issue was the loud heaters in the room, but was able to sleep okay. I'd stay here again. Staff was very helpful and considerate. View from the bar was terrific.

"Excellent Location/Great Employees"
ATjersey, 27 Mars 2017

We were in Kodiak to babysit our older grandchildren during the birth of our fourth grandchild. The hotel management was understanding concerning the intermittent and undetermined length of our stay. We stayed 10 nights at $105.99+$12.72 tax. There are no 5 star hotels or restaurants on Kodiak; you will need to adjust expectations. However this facility is your best choice. They provide an excellent complimentary breakfast and a full service bar & restaurant (The Chart House, a local favorite). The rooms are well maintained by the pleasant cleaning staff & equipped with a microwave & refrigerator. I found ample parking at their Convention Center across the street. The hotel sits above the harbor and provided great views of the snow covered mountains and the marina where bald eagles soared over huge fishing vessels looking for an easy meal. This is an aging facility and noise may be an issue if you are a light sleeper (we travel with a "sound machine"). The area is safe and secure. We walked to the brewery, pizza shop, restaurants, marina, Kodiak Visitor Information Center, and Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center. We will absolutely stay at the Best Western on our next trip to Kodiak.

"Well centralizedhotel"
donaldh572, 01 Mars 2017

The hotel offers free shuttle service to and from the airport, along with a complimentary breakfast. Great view from the lounge and restaurant, They have fresh cookies toward the end of the day and a great hamburger and beer special on Wednesday. They are in walking distance to numerous places to eat and the local brewery is right around the corner for a cold adult beverage.

"Kodiak Team was excellent"
James U, 24 Novembre 2016

Had a back side room that was fine! Service and staff support was very warm and cordial. Very close to the airport and some distance from Down town. For me close also to work on the Coast Guard Base. Had rain every day!

"Great place"
Jerry K, 23 Novembre 2016

Great hotel right in town, Clean even with being older hotel. Every thing was well maintained. Only draw back was you had to do some steps for the room I was in. Not fun with a heavy suitcase. Restaurant was good food and fir price,

"A Two Day Transition Stay"
KitKauffman, 06 Novembre 2016

We stayed here to make sure we had good weather to take a float plane to other side of island. Clean place, friendly & helpful staff, & breakfast was okay. There is a bar and restaurant for lunch and dinner as well but we did not eat there, just had drinks at the bar.

"Good for the Location"
farrahnfl, 02 Novembre 2016

The hotel was Good - housekeeping did a great job cleaning! the location is good for walking to nearby docs and restaurants. bit pricey considering no air conditioning (mind you the week we went it was 79F and we needed air badly!! - rooms were like a hot box). Other than that the hate was great - ** Actually give the place 4 because the staff was nice - especially the housekeeping staff and restaurant staff. P.s. TRY THE CRAB LEGS - best in town and worth every dollar!

"Super helpful and friendly"
Catnanny60, 12 Octobre 2016

This is Alaska and the Best Western is apparently the best hotel on the island - certainly in the town. I stayed there for four nights and was really impressed, especially by the friendly staff who bend over backwards to help. What it lacks in luxury it more than makes up for in hospitality. That said, the rooms are clean and very comfortable. Would definitely come again if I happened to be travelling this way again.

"Excellent facility for group events"
Stuart C, 09 Octobre 2016

Was in Kodiak for a wedding and held the rehearsal dinner at the Inn. The staff and the owner were very helpful in planning the event and making it a success. Many of the wedding guests from out of town stayed at the Inn and were pleased with the facility. The included breakfasts were tasty and comprehensive with something for every taste. Wonderful sausages. Yes, the elevator was broken when we arrived, and the laundry was being repaired. But the elevator was repaired and they were still working on the laundry when we left. (We could not find a commercial laundromat in the city.) It was just a short walk to the waterfront. A nice touch was sets of binoculars in the breakfast lounge so you could watch the boats come and go.

"good location, but nothing to brag about"
seattlerupali, 02 Octobre 2016

This was a nice hotel in the center of town. The service was friendly and courteous. The elevator was broken when we arrived and the room was small and dark. The breakfast had many options including eggs, potatoes, yogurt, etc. We had a pleasant surprise of a free shuttle from the airport.

"Overnight!"
LVFire, 02 Octobre 2016

I have stayed in many Alaskan hotels for a single night on either end of adventure trip! This BW is one if the best I have encountered (I'm BW platinum ) the staff seems genuine and happy to see you! Friendly and available for tips and information! It is typical cold weather location BW rooms! Clean but used often! Location is great! Across from St Paul harbor where a few of the deadliest catch. Oats are today waiting for crab season to open on 10/15/16. I Love all the wildlife taxidermy on display in the lobby!

"Alaskan Salmon Fishing Trip"
Jolee V, 28 Septembre 2016

This Best Western Kodiak Inn experience was delightful. Friendly staff, helpful at all times, great food and a fun bar atmosphere!!! Would stay again on next trip! Also had a walk-in freezer for our catches of salmon which was a great advantage.

"Best at Best Western Kodiak"
Janine B, 27 Septembre 2016

Genuinely kind and helpful service. Booking again next time we bring our groups of fishermen to town. Thank you for making this trip extra special for myself and the guests we bring to Alaska. Looking forward to the next visit.

"Limited Choices"
Ronald W, 19 Septembre 2016

The value for the money, even with being a member of the points system. This hotel was recommended by the airline staff after a cancelled flight. Room was next door to the elevator which didn't help the noise level. The best part of the stay was the view over the harbor.

"Everything you need"
livingwell13, 18 Septembre 2016

What a convenient place to stay. Smack in the middle of downtown so convenient to many things. Friendly, super helpful staff. Room has all the amenities you could possibly want. The restaurant is one of the best in town. They have a free breakfast with options for everyone. Warm atmosphere. Free Wi-Fi. They didn't replace the coffee after the first day but there's free coffee in the hotel and cookies in the evening. Nice conference/training meeting space. Hoping to go to Kodiak again and will stay there again unhesitatingly. Oh and bring ear plugs if the person above you walks around at all hours in heavy shoes - and yes they are more than enough.

"Good Breakfast...Nice Staff"
LisaBlk, 17 Septembre 2016

We stayed here one night before heading to Alpenview Wilderness Lodge and then again for 3 nights after the lodge. The first night was noisy by the ice machine on 3rd floor. I requested a room away from the ice machines on the 2nd stay and they were very accommodating. The staff was friendly and helpful. The washing machines were GREAT!!! The breakfast was very good. Plenty of hot and cold food choices. I would stay here again. The rooms were clean. No a/c just a fan and window. They have live music on Fridays 2nd floor in the restaurant.

"A working vacation"
carolynp873, 15 Septembre 2016

The hotel was great. The continental breakfast was superb over 50 choices of hot, cold, and plenty of snacks and drinks. The internet was fast and the area super close to town. Walking distance to food and brewery. Really appreciate the addition of a visitor freezer to stash processed fish at no extra charge. Thank you

"A convinient location, but seasonally pricy"
John M, 11 Septembre 2016

I have stayed here many times over the past 25 years and it is virtually unchanged during that time. The price for a two bed room has continued to go up from around $150 to well over $230. The breakfast is always the same, but a good addition. The cleanliness is average to slightly above. The hot cookies around five o'clock in the lobby are scrumpcious. Most downtown attractions and restaurants are in easy walking distance. The bar/ breakfast room overlooks the harbor with only the hardware store roof as an obstruction. For a small Alaska town, it is "all good", except for the roll away beds which are $75 extra and predate WWII, no way to get any rest on them, rent an additional room, if needed. The restaurant is not the best in town, but very good for weary travelers in from the bush, when too tired to go out ($$$+). Van service is excellent. General condition is dated, but I always book here well in advance when transiting Kodiak for the out back areas of the island. Desk staff always helpful and friendly. Elevator to third floor for the overburdened outdoorsman. Free use of freezer for in transit fish or game. Free luggage storage on main floor. Resonably quiet. New York City it isn't.

"Great Kodiak Hotel"
Edward F, 11 Septembre 2016

Highly recommend the Best Western in Kodiak--at least in the "newer" area where we stayed. Don't know about other rooms. It was clean and comfortable. Complimentary breakfast was good and had lots of options. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Location good--view on street side, quiet on back side. Staff helpful. Complimentary shuttle to airport. We were pleasantly surprised.

"One of the better choices in Kodiak"
Keith C, 08 Septembre 2016

Although I share similar complaints with other reviewers for best western, I will say that it has the cleaner and more professional appearance. The staff weren't terse or rude but maintained a very professional attitude while discussing the amenities and features of the hotel. They do have working Wi-Fi and breakfast is covered in your stay. So if you aren't too picky about the cleanliness/functionality of the rooms and showers, quality of the included breakfast food, or the speed of the free Wi-Fi (heck, even if you are) it is one of the best options you will have on Kodiak island.

"Very nice comfortable with a good breakfast"
webguzs, 07 Septembre 2016

I have stayed at this hotel on every occasion I have gone to Kodiak. This hotel has a free shuttle to the airport. The staff are very accommodating. The rooms are comfortable and the free breakfast is very good. Highly recommended while in Kodiak.

"Nice hotel in great location"
Turbogirl25, 03 Septembre 2016

This was a nice clean hotel with decent sized rooms. There was a very nice free breakfast of hot, cold, cereal and pastries; and free Wi-Fi which generally worked OK. The beds were comfy and the water was hot. This hotel is very centrally located in Kodiak, both to the wharf and to the shopping centre and is a 2 minute walk to Harbourside Coffee for an excellent cup of coffee. The staff were incredibly obliging and friendly.

"Not bad. Good breakfast "
Boyd R, 22 Août 2016

Not bad place to stay. Short term is better. Breakfast was good rooms could be cleaner but I am not picky. Very convenient to downtown and good restaurants no rental car needed. Price is in line with everything else but seemed high to me. I will stay again

"a nice easy place"
steve100, 22 Août 2016

The check in was quick, the room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, the included breakfast was much better than average and the staff was nice. In a nice downtown location. I would definitely stay again.

"Best Place in Kodiak"
turtle2327, 11 Août 2016

Very friendly staff. There is a restaurant with a good menu. There is a bar. Free breakfast. Our room was very nice, very good bed, quiet location in the back. We will definitely stay here again on a return visit to Kodiak.

"Good Experience Overall"
Matollygirl, 03 Août 2016

When I stay someplace, I like to consider it in context with the location. I do not have the same expectations for a hotel in DC that I would have in Yerevan, or in this case, Kodiak. Location, location, location. Kodiak is a hard-scrapple place, with government contractors passing through, one of the largest US Coast Guard facilities, a mysterious and growing "launch" site on the far side of the island, and some truly amazing eco-tourism opportunities. It is not a regular on the cruise ship stops - which may or may not be to its advantage. More kayaking and friendly whales for me. I was heading to the Katmai Wilderness Lodge and saw no reason to make Kodiak a mere airport stop. If I was going, I was going. So I researched and set up a couple of kayaking trips, arranged for a rental car, and studied a few maps. I had a glitch, however - Budget and Avis, which are run by the same folks at the airport, really, truly stink in Kodiak. Budget refused to honor its contract with me for a vehicle - they had but one left that was unacceptable in every way imaginable - and the Avis representative was downright rude and nasty. So I was gosh darned lucky to be at the Best Western and not at a B&B on the outskirts of town. It is a short walk to most of what I needed to see on the main thoroughfare and generally accessible. Also, the kayak operator actually took me around in her personal vehicle when she found out about my car-less state. I didn't mind trudging up and across the Near Bridge to wander the trails across the water or to get to my kayak outfitter at the marina. And, the hotel shuttles you from the airport. Phew. I had been traveling 20 hours when I discovered the rental car issue and appreciated all the other folks who showed some kindness. It was hot when I got there. Strangely hot - so my room was stuffy despite an open window and fan. I initially asked to be switched but thought the better and decided to stick it out. You see, hot weather simply is not supposed to happen there. The room worked fine for me overall. My room was clean. Really, truly clean despite being slightly thread-worn. OLD property. But a property that is loved and cared for by its solid and remarkably helpful staff. And I imagine Best Western doesn't see the point of investing a lot of money to redecorate. A few new chairs might take it up a notch but I imagine that most of the people staying are fine with it - they trudge in wearing their sweaty kayak clothes after parking their Subaru, or muddy hunting outfits or dragging their fishing poles and are just looking for a warm bed and fresh towels and a coin operated laundry. And that is what you get. But you do get more. They have refrigerators and microwaves and flat screened TVs, irons and hair dryers, plenty of plug space for your electronic devices and of course something that needs to be mandatory at all hotels worldwide - FREE WIFI. And it worked well too being as we were pretty remote. Let's talk about breakfast. I have stayed at hotels that consider themselves chic and Inns that advertise breakfast - only to find the morning food options lacking. The Best Western did it up RIGHT. Seriously. Downright European of them. Not perfect, not chic, no pretense - just tons of choices, a recognition of people on every imaginable diet, and a dedicated staff person clearing the tables and refilling the pots and and hustling hard. One day it was a man and the next a woman and they were equally serious about their work. A big and hearty hand to those folks - I was happy to leave them an oversized tip. Now, someone at the wildlife lodge allowed as the oatmeal at the Best Western did not look appetizing to them - yadda, yadda, yadda. Oatmeal is not uniform or always steel cut - this reminded me of the oatmeal at my YMCA summer camp as a kid. If you like it thicker, dig deeper. But they had all the bells and whistles for the oatmeal imaginable - like brown sugar and fruit. Speaking of fruit - they did NOT skimp on that. Plenty of fresh fruit, made to order waffles and even hard boiled eggs for people on a protein diet. OK, the scrambled eggs were not light and airy but they tasted fine to me. I would be remiss if I did not mention that they have a great bar, with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. No dance floor but fun. Friendly, local-born bartenders, locals at the bar especially on Wednesday burger night, and very generous pours. Unlike that nasty restaurant down the street with the gambling cards, not dirty drunks falling over themselves. Just pleasantly happy people enjoying the view and one another. I ate at the bar a few times and the food was OK - not perfect - they could use some work - but given the limited options in town, it was fine. One very important point to remember - check out time. NOON. Really. A true luxury and wonderful amenity. And you know what else? When I called the front desk to ask about check out time, the clerk actually offered - without prompting - to let me stay until 1:00 pm. NOW THAT IS SERVICE. Good job. Get the owners to invest a bit and keep up the hard work. BTW - I stayed 4 nights before my Katmai trip and 1 night after - so I really did get a good feel for the place.

"Best Western - best bet"
Mike B, 30 Juillet 2016

This was a clean, efficient hotel near the center of town with a good shuttle service and very nice staff. No A/C but good air circulation (ceiling fan, large open windows). Great restaurant and bar and a very good breakfast. Much like the Best Western in Seward, this one has spacious rooms with all amenities and very clean. The price was reasonable and the staff very accommodating. Good value.

"Very comfortable and convenient for airport"
Jan V, 30 Juillet 2016

This hotel offers a good night's sleep. It is very comfortable and clean. The staff are helpful and polite. The buffet breakfast is good. We went Bear Watching and didn't fly back to Anchorage until the evening however the hotel kept our bags and provided a shuttle when we needed it. THANK YOU.

"good location, quiet room"
Plainstravellors, 27 Juillet 2016

We stayed here for several days with a large group of extended family. There is a shuttle to/from the airport. The location of the hotel is great, and is within walking distance to the waterfront/fishing boats/etc. You can also walk downtown to restaurants/shops. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Some room views were nice, some were poor. Our room was on the backside of the hotel, and actually had a lot of trees/bushes/greenery. It was quite nice being able to leave the window open at night and have cool Kodiak air flow into the room. Breakfast was included and was fairly avarage. There is a restaurant/bar at the hotel, but we didn't eat there. Overall we enjoyed our stay. This is not a trendy, shopping and nightlife town. This is a beautifully rugged, amazing island. You are here to be outdoors. The fishing is amazing. Hiking is great. Wildlife was amazing. We saw whales (up close), bald eagles, sea otters, sea lions, birds, fish, starfish, etc. This hotel is a good base for exploring the island. We would stay there again.

"Great location"
John396b, 26 Juillet 2016

You can walk to everything you need from this property. The fishing boats are close. Several good restaurants are close. The room are nothing fancy but they are clean and have a fridge. Food at the onsite restaurant is good.

"Okay "
Asunna, 26 Juillet 2016

Rooms were clean no complaints about that staff is friendly and lovely I have two complaints one is minor and one is a major First I'll go with the minor , the restaurant desperately lacks vegetarian options look I get it it's Kodiak Alaska but being a military family I didn't choose to be there so one veggie option isn't fair now the work around to that is the servers were lovely enough for me to ask for salads without the meat etc a minor complaint about that was I paid full price for meals that were half a meal since it was missing the expensive ingredients never the less I was happy servers were attentive to my needs and the cooks never messed up my orders so big thanks there ! My major complaint is I requested non smoking room located in the non smoking hallway Half way into our stay for 2 nights the room next to us was occupied by locals who used it to party and smoke and smoke marijuana Look I've got nothing against marijuana but don't do it in a non smoking area I had a new born in my room our bathroom smelled so bad of pot We also were flying out of Kodiak and marijuana smell tends to linger on clothing That right there really ticked me off when we complained to the staff all we got was a meager "sorry" seriously ? We're paying about 2000$ to stay there plus meals every night at your restaurant and we get a "sorry" ? I'm not a picky person but it ticks me off when I have a newborn child being exposed to rank smelling pot for two nights in a NON smoking hallway!!! I realize this is a reflection of our personal experience and it probably won't happen to you but how the hotel handled , resolved the situation was inadequate

"Vacation in Alaska"
Dana B, 25 Juillet 2016

Very nice Best Western. More than met our expectations. Comfortable bed, comfortable chair in room. No AC but we haven't missed it with window open and ceiling fan. Bathroom is equipped and plenty of hot water. Very comfortable for a modest hotel chain. Breakfast is more than adequate.

"Very average but does the job"
LimehouseTraveller, 25 Juillet 2016

Kodiak is not a pretty or charming town (unlike the rest of the awesome Kodiak Island!) and the Best Western is a characterless hotel in this characterless town. Rooms are adequate, breakfast is adequate. Nothing remarkable or memorable about any of it, which makes it a bit disappointing compared to so much on offer in Alaska.

"It's Kodiak, not Las Vegas"
jeremiahred, 23 Juillet 2016

This is an older hotel, well located in the town. Folks, this is an island in Alaska, so downscale your glitz expectations. Most rooms have no great views (ours overlooked an outside stairway, 3 walls and a roof. Be specific if you want better). It's an easy walk to places to eat (Henry's was the best). There is an elevator, but when we got off on the second floor, we saw that there are 3 steps up or down to access the rooms. Beware if you have trouble with mobility. We heard every footstep in the room above us. I would request the third floor next time. Breakfast is very good. This is a small, working town kind of place with animal hides and heads on the wall. It is very Alaskan. There is a reliable shuttle service with a friendly driver. The room was clean and comfortable.

"great hotel!!"
Kris R, 22 Juillet 2016

It is the second and third time staying here and we love it. Very good customer service, from the front desk to the food service to the shuttle service. I will always stay here while in Kodiak!!! The breakfast that is included is wonderful, eggs, meats, cereals and to go choices. Love!!!

"Good choice if you are careful on room selection"
elkhornsun, 19 Juillet 2016

The hotel is conveniently located and has a shuttle service to take people to and from the airport. It also has an exceptional morning breakfast provided from 6-10 am with real food including 3 kinds of meat, eggs, breads and pastries, yogurt, cereal, juice, and fairly decent coffee (better than Starbucks though that is not saying much). We stayed there for a night on arriving at the island and on our last night before flying out. The first night we were on the street side in a room with a king bed and it was a good size room and the mattress was firm but there was a good deal of road noise. The second stay was in a room on the opposite side and it was quieter but had a queen mattress that was very soft and greatly affected our sleep. On the back side we also had a fellow starting up with a weed wacker right outside the window at 8 am that lasted for an hour. The hotel is a little odd in that it has an elevator to take you to the second level but upon exiting the elevator you need to make a couple of turns and then go down 4 stairs and across an area where there are vending machines and then back up 4 stairs and then continue down the hall. So it is hand carry from the lobby to your room. The people that work at the hotel are all very friendly and quite helpful if you need anything at all.

"Best Western Kodiak"
Rick C, 18 Juillet 2016

Our organization uses Kodiak Best Western exclusively when staying in Kodiak for business. The consistency of clean, comfortable rooms, attentive and professional staff always makes our stay pleasant. The value for the area is unmatched. Whether it is for a single night or an extended stay, Kodiak Best Western is our choice. Every time.

"It's all about expectations, this met ours"
semeie, 12 Juillet 2016

Traveled with 2 adults, 2 kids, I expected a modest accommodation, as we were going to a Best Western and it was in a remote location. The hotel itself met that expectation. However, the staff were exceptional, they were courteous, helpful, knowledgeable and all around lovely. Breakfast was great. I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Best in town"
islandgirl_bg_fl, 05 Juillet 2016

Located right across from the harbor this hotel has great views. The staff is super friendly and very helpful (even offered to have a packaged picked up for me by UPS). It is not a new hotel but it is clean and well maintained. The restaurant is very good.

"Excellent Location, friendly and effective staff, airport shuttle"
Hedonist_Australia, 29 Juin 2016

We stayed for a night either side of a bear hunting trip to Katmai. The airport shuttle on all 4 occasions was timely, comfortable and appreciated. The room was large and the internet workable. The TV didn't work even after staff worked on it anf the plug in the bathroom insisted on not staying open. Breakfast was included and, whilst not luxurious, it was adequate and we have no complaints. Al in all, a a very good transit hotel in town

"very nice hotel, great staff, restaurant OK"
Craig S, 27 Juin 2016

Lovely staff, very friendly, stayed here one night. Ate at the restaurant - it was OK - always a bit of a letdown when you are in a place that has the real deal (seafood) right next to it, and they don't deliver - Oh well. Everything else was stellar though, and they were very accomodating - Bar does close early though ??

"kodiak adventure"
822rhondal, 12 Juin 2016

hotel is centrally located to town, with good food, nice lounge, bar closes to early, but good live music. Airport shuttle is nice. Nicely appointed, great wifi. Prices are high, but probably typical for this type of location.

"A comfortable and friendly place to stay in Kodiak!"
Andrew W, 08 Juin 2016

We stayed for 4 nights 4/22/16 - 4/26/16. We were two couples in town for a family gathering. We are from the CT and NY areas. After doing some research on-line, we decided to book the Best Western in downtown Kodiak. This was our first time to Alaska, and Kodiak was amazing. The hotel added to our enjoyment by providing clean rooms, wonderful service, and some nice amenities. The hotel's décor is like a 70's or 80's style hunting lodge, but it isn't worn-out looking. It really is quaint and charming. They have a stuffed Kodiak bear and other animals mounted in the lobby. The front desk staff is very friendly and professional and they make you feel like family. We also interacted with housekeeping and maintenance and they seemed like they really appreciated us staying there. They took care of all of our requests (such as needing a bolt cutter to cut a suitcase lock) very quickly and made sure that they offered to help in any way possible. Our room was on the second floor and there is an elevator to help you get to all the floors. One note is that if you have a room in the back of the hotel like we did, there are 2 or 3 stairs that you need to climb once you have taken the elevator to your floor. This might not be easy for someone with a disability, so they should request a room in the front if stairs are a problem. Kodiak is a very small, quiet town so noise shouldn't be an issue in the front or back. The rooms are modern but still feel homey. We had a refrigerator and microwave in the room so we stocked up on waters and snacks. The bed was very comfortable and we had a desk and sitting area in the room, as well. The bathroom was clean and bright and always stocked with shampoos, soaps, etc. Some of the great extras at the Best Western: Warm cookies in the lobby in the afternoons. Always a nice touch and we looked forward to them each day. The free morning breakfast is excellent. Each day they have hot foods such as scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, home fries, and made-to-order waffles. They also have plenty of bagels, muffins, cereals, fresh fruit, oatmeal, juices, coffee, etc. Breakfast is served in the lounge each morning and the staff is very attentive making sure the area is always clean and well-stocked. The woman who runs the breakfast area does an outstanding job. The hotel restaurant is very good and they get a good crowd of locals every night. The lounge has live music on the weekends and is a fun place to hang out for drinks and to get a bite from the pub menu. I recall that the kitchen closes at 10:00. This is a fun bar for both visitors and locals. I believe that they usually keep the lounge open until midnight, but there are other late night places within walking distance that you can go to after. Kodiak bars are allowed to stay open until 4 am. The Best Western is convenient to everything in town and you can walk to many places. Kodiak is a very small town with one traffic light (but the island itself is very large.) The airport and golf course are about a 5-10 minute drive from the hotel (the hotel has a shuttle), Walmart and the grocery store are about 3-5 minutes away by car. You can walk to several restaurants, the movie theater, the brewery, the marina, gift shops, and of course, the convention center (which is across the street.) We rented a car at the airport while we were there to go sight-seeing and to visit friends. Parking at the hotel is convenient and never a problem. They have three parking lots and street parking is also available. There is no charge for parking. Overall, we would definitely recommend the Best Western to our friends and family. Kodiak is a great place to visit and the people are warm and friendly. We loved our stay there and look forward to visiting again.

"Excellent Customer Service"
Mirta A, 27 Avril 2016

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Kodiak. The staff provides friendly and awesome service. The hotel is walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Parking is a little challenging, but its worth it! Food was good too.

"Dont be late or no parking"
albX675XR, 04 Avril 2016

Hotel was being renovated and they finished around 8 pm grinding saws-all through the day...Parking is limited and street fills up, Same issues as I complained about before, I dont know if they just dont care and they are making their monies to not care. Staff is way into each others life as I stood for 10 minutes until they finished with what happen in their life.

"Gets better every year"
hookedonBristolBay, 03 Avril 2016

This hotel has always been a great place to stay because of its location and management. Every year I stay there, I notice improvements, from amenities to physical upgrades, including improved wi-fi, more attractive bathrooms and more comfortable beds. Management and all the employees seem bent on being sure each guest feels welcome and at home. They are just very nice to be around, and every visit is like homecoming.

"Best in Kodiak"
Jeff L, 02 Mars 2016

This place is nothing special, but it is the best place in Kodiak. The hotel is a labyrinth of hallways and the wifi is not fast at all. If you need to go to Kodiak, I would recommend this hotel, but don't expect much.

"Good and Consistant"
Carl R, 02 Mars 2016

This is the best that Kodiak has to offer. It is consistent and very good. The views from the hotel are gorgeous. The food at the Chart Room is very good. The Chart Room is one of the nicer restaurants in town. The bar is small but has friendly and attentive bartenders. The only complaint I have ever had is that the hot tub is not always operational.

"Great Burger"
Adrian K, 01 Mars 2016

Hotel is good. The rooms are clean and have all needed amenities. The bar/restaurant area has an amazing burger! the fries are unique and I have not seen them done this way anywhere else. Very tasty Downsides: very small parking lot as well as small parking stalls. However, there is parking on the street as well, never didn't find a spot. Opening bathroom door is limited due to shower curtain rod blocking it. That said, bathroom has enough room for one person to do all that they need.

"Best Place in Kodiak"
Sergio P, 24 Février 2016

Excellent hotel. Rooms were good; clean and comfortable. Restaurant/bar was super! I can say easily that there is no better place in Kodiak to dine and have a drink to unwind than the BW. Internet met my needs easily. The only con I can point out is the parking. I had to park down the street which forced me to carry my luggage a good distance in the rain. And that is a whine more than a con.

"Best in Kodiak"
AKPROG, 15 Février 2016

The Best Western is nothing special but it is the best in Kodiak. My room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Front desk staff were friendly. Again, this is nothing fancy but for Kodiak it is a good place to stay. Another plus is that you can walk to town and there are a few restaurants within walking distance. The burger and brew special here is a really good deal. Get there early as it fills up quickly.

"Never Again"
Alexa V, 13 Février 2016

I was flying into Kodiak from Ohio to visit my boyfriend. I was exhausted from all the traveling I had just done so as soon as we got to the room, I wanted to sleep. Starting at around 7 pm, they were having karaoke in the lounge or something, but it was so loud that it sounded like it was happening right outside the room. It finally finished around 11 pm or something. Next thing that was wrong was the toilet. Every time we'd flush it, it would leak water. We called maintenance but by the time they finally came, my boyfriend had fixed it himself. The room had a hot tub that also leaked water from the handles. The DVD remote control didn't have batteries which was just more little issues piled up. We tried calling the manager several times but she was out of town. When she finally got back in town and called us, all she did was give us a $50 refund, we ended up paying almost $300 for our entire stay so $50 was not very satisfying. The hotel may be nice, but our stay wasn't very pleasant.

"Beautiful views"
hittlecat, 27 Janvier 2016

We came and visited the island for the first time. It is so beautiful here. I will be coming back. The hotel was nice. There is a restaurant in the hotel. They have very good food. The night we was there they had live music playing. It was great. They were remodeling a little. The view from our window was outstanding.

"Best Western Kodiak Inn "
Tim S, 18 Janvier 2016

I broke my ankle in Kodiak. I was forced to stay for a couple days due to weather. The staff was VERY accommodating. I didn't have to ask anyone for assistance, they all volunteered assistance every time they saw me. They were always smiling and very polite. The food was absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend staying here if you're looking for accommodations. It's a great location, not to far away from anything you need.

"Kodiak Best Western is Great"
Casey C, 08 Janvier 2016

Excellent stay in Kodiak and good hot breakfast too! We have always enjoyed staying at the best Western Kodiak the owners are very friendly, staff very helpful especially the front desk. The room was very clean and had everything we needed and the view is good. thanks

"IT's KODIAK"
June B, 28 Décembre 2015

I didn't expect it but this is a really nice hotel. It is the Kodiak Hilton. It is located in a great area and gives you the Alaska feel. The breakfast is well done and the restaurant is a local fav. Parking is difficult and hard come by, but it is the best option in town.

"Not the best"
teresa0823, 26 Décembre 2015

Came for the first time for a business travel stay for a few days and as soon as I checked in friendly staff went to my room kinda of a maze to get to second floor from stairs, entered room and smelled and was really cold, checked thermostat and showed 56 degrees so I put to 70 degrees left room to go eat, came back 1 hour later and room was only 62 ....took it up to 75 wouldn't go any higher and went to go see a movie came back few hours later and never got warm it was still in 63 degrees. Showered and tub full of small hair in the corners it was disgusting, toilet inside has brown spots and hand towels had small hairs as well. Would not stay here again! Bed looks dirty with hairs as well and little crumbs. Paid about 120 a night and well not worth it. They need to at least fix heat and cleanliness.... Hotel location has a lot to offer!

"Great stay-over for traveling sportsman"
Scott V, 01 Décembre 2015

We stayed over at this Best Western again on our way home from ten days of hunting and fishing in a small village on the island. The staff is always very accommodating and allowed us to store our boxes of meat and fish in their walk-in freezer. The rooms were all updated and very clean. The location is great for us to walk to nearby restaurants and the provided free shuttle service to and from the airport. We've stayed here twice and will again on our next visit to Kodiak.

"Businees Stay"
Frank P, 06 Novembre 2015

Excellent service and comfortable bed. The location was ideal for downtown Kodiak business. The breakfast was good. Evening meals in the dining room were also good. I would come back again although I am not planning another Kodiak trip any time soon.

"Average Hotel, Below Average Breakfast."
Alex S, 20 Octobre 2015

This hotel was mostly on par with the other Best Western Properties I've stayed at. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly. The restaurant on premises had a nice bar, with good lunch and dinner. The continental breakfast was free for guests, but it was a little disappointing. Eggs were underwhelming, and breakfast meats not very appetizing. Cups of yogurt, cereal and fruit were also provided. The room itself, although clean, had obviously suffered from water damage. Bathroom walls were bloated and stained in the corners, and the bathtub seemed to be tilted down into one corner. My part of the hotel, the back building, was very hot. I had the heat turned down and slept with windows open in October. I also overheard other guests talking about overly warm temperatures in rooms over breakfast. There didn't seem to be a lot of noise, aside from my upstairs neighbors apparently training of a marathon on creaky floorboards. The hotel has a small hot tub in a little hut in the courtyard, but I never saw anyone use it.

"Ok room ...disgusting bathroom"
Trinity T, 11 Octobre 2015

We spent one night here in the first week of September. When we were checking in, the front desk person was unable to find our reservation. We had called the hotel prior to arriving to confirm our reservation so we knew we had a reservation. We showed a copy of the reservation before she was able to locate it. We were given a ground level room. The room itself was OK, it was clean but the bathroom was disgusting. Flip flops are a must! The bathroom is ADA compliant however poorly designed. When you use the shower, the entire bathroom gets flooded! There was a long-handle squeegee which was kept in the bathroom so YOU the guest can clean the water out to prevent it from further flooding. Perhaps the rooms on the upper level are different but the bathroom in this room was not acceptable. The location was great where you can walk to a couple of restaurants. The hotel does have a shuttle which we used to get to the airport. Breakfast was great.

"A nice place to stay."
DIKTHAI, 10 Octobre 2015

My wife and I stayed here on 2 occasions during our recent visit to Katmai (KWL). Both stays were very good with rooms quiet, beds great for sleeping and rooms cleaned efficiently. Staff at the hotel were all very helpful and accommodating. Complimentary breakfasts were adequate with excellent service. Would certainly stay here again when we are in Kodiak.

"Out dated in Kodiak"
Dwight D, 23 Septembre 2015

Was suggested we stay at Best Western Kodiak when coming to fish in Old Harbor, was not happy with the out dated unkempt facility I would not choose to stay at this motel again. The rooms are small and out dated the hot tub is not convenient to guest, and the restaurant is over priced for what it offers.

"Would stay elswhere if I ever visit Kodiak again"
KeenTraveller12372, 21 Septembre 2015

Again booked by my travel agent on route to Katmai I really do not why anyone comes to Kodiak. It is a fishing port and if you come on a weekend nothing is open as they, the towns people need family time So why send the tourist there, anyway about the hotel There is a hotel shuttle to the airport The hotel is centrally located that you can walk to Subway and Maccas . The room was well appointed with toiletries and a coffee dripolator. The only source of cooling is a ceiling fan which I had trouble turning off. If you open the window the outside noise can be a bother cannot remember if flyscreens where in place. I did not eat dinner but had breakfast very basic It is called a hot continental breakfast it consisted of microwave your own porridge pass, little tubs of yogurt I think there was eggs but I passed on them to and ended up with toast and a cuppa so much for hot continental breakfast and I paid ??? for that fruit consisted of bananas. Would have been better going to Maccas down the road. The bed was comfortable the shower hot but the hotel itself is dated. For dinner I went to subway.

"Stick built"
Tony C, 20 Septembre 2015

Great front desk staff and the Resturant and lounge were great. It was nice to have some live tunes in the lounge. The breakfast is above par for similar restaurants. Unfortunately the hotel is wood frame construction and you can hear everything from people on either side of the room and above. I highly recommend a room on the top floor. Rooms are clean and nice beds and clean linen were a nice surprise. With Limited options on Kodiak for hotels the KI is the best choice.

"Nice Place"
WTJaybird, 16 Septembre 2015

Stayed here. Clean room that smelled nice, great bar, and nice facilities. Best continental breakfast I've ever seen. Restaurant was very good and staff very friendly as well as helpful. I suspect this is the nicest place to stay on the island. Biggest complaint was not having AC as it was needed at times.

"Very disorganized."
Angeles, 31 Août 2015

We arrived at the airport today and I called for the hotel shuttle. The woman said it was on its way. We waited and called again. She said it was on its way. Finally, everyone had been picked up but our group of people. I called again and she said she was sending it. Later talked with another man in our photo group we met at dinner. He said he did not call and got picked up but they did not bother to check for the rest of us even though the manager was in the van. It gets worse. We arrive. First the guy tries to put a guy who is sharing a room with another guy in a separate room. That goes on forever Then she finally gets to us. She gives me a room number. We have a hard time finding the numer--this is one confused place with no elevators to many of the rooms. Our key does not work. A staff member uses his key and someone else is in the room. He goes to the desk. Does not return. I go to the desk. She says she was not able to fix the problem because she does not know my name and has the wrong number. Finally, 90 minutes after our plane arrives and we have our luggage we are checked into our room that is five minutes from the airport.
