Location was good, off the main road, easy to find. Frond desk staff friendly Room is dated- stained furniture, dust on surfaces, bathroom faucet hard to pull. Breakfast- limited option available. Nice thing was that eggs used in the omelet were real eggs.
Spent a night here to attend a local function, and it was a very good choice. Although it's an older facility with exterior doors to rooms, it has been fully renovated inside and out and is very nice for a budget hotel. Clean, fully remodeled rooms with tile instead of nasty carpet flooring. Comfy pillow-top mattresses. Excellent HD TV (but no baseball subscriptions). Cold AC. One of the best budget hotel breakfasts I've ever seen; a large clean breakfast seating area and many food choices including protein and real egg. Many guests are construction workers but they were quiet and respectful. Nice bonus... the hotel owns the adjoining large land parcel that has been made into a private and pretty park covered with large shade trees for the exclusive use of the hotel guests. A large gazebo with seating and BBQ grills and tables are scattered about, along with walking paths.
The place is OK - VERY nice swimming pool and decent breakfast items including REAL scrambled eggs, which is a hotel/motel rarity these days - toilet empties very slowly and holds a LOT of water so be patient - it DOES empty ..............................
Just needed to be closer to Marble Falls for an early am appt. Breakfast choices were fabulous for all diets. The AIRCON was alittle loud, but the place was clean, good water pressure and all we needed. Bed comfy.
Outstanding value if you need to be in the area, particularly for Fredericksburg visit. Comfortable beds, good a/c, decent breakfast, visible staff. I felt safe at this location. They have amazing landscaping and a very nice park area attached to the motel that has picnic tables and a nice walking area. Restaurants are nearby, two even next door. Everything was clean and well maintained. Will definitely stay again when in the area.
I was a little uneasy about booking this hotel as the reviews seemed to be a mixed bag. However, it was fine. The people in reception were friendly though they did have to go to check in person if my room had been cleaned. Combined with my experience when leaving it made me feel the computers were more of a hindrance than a help! The room was squeaky clean. The shower worked fine and the bed was comfortable. I had asked for a ground floor room and the request was met. I was able to park more or less outside the room but there were plenty of other parking spaces. Breakfast was fine. The outdoor space looked nice but it was soooo cold when I was there that I did not explore. I was pleased I had chosen to stay there as location was very convenient.
You can't go wrong staying here! The staff and location is excellent. Breakfast is outstanding. Any season is beautiful and the hotel, to me, is a restful place to stay. I have been there in the heat of the summer and the beautiful wintertime when Johnson City has their Christmas lights displayed. It's always nice to be remembered by the front desk and even the owner when I come back. Whether it's just for pleasure or business, it feels warm and welcoming.
This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel recently and discovered a sheet was missing on the bed. At least the front desk answered the phone this time and provided a sheet for us to remake the bed. The other issue was us needed to go to the front desk and get wash cloths each morning. Do people not use wash cloths these days or is this hotel screwed up?
Needs updated, parking lot looks like dumping ground for vehicles , entering bldg smells. Hotel is more for cons workers just don't , not a family place . No ice . Remotes were ungodly nasty sheets rough.
When we got ready to go to bed, we noticed the bed had only one sheet. The fitted sheet over the mattress was the only one. We called the front desk and they didn't answer. I walked to the front desk and they gave me new sheets so I could make the bed for myself.
Steps to the 2nd floor and 2nd floor walkways were uneven and unsafe. Pool water and surface were very unclean. No pool towels. Our room had cockroaches! A/C worked, but very loud. Breakfast was ok, coffee was excellent. Breakfast area help/service was good.
It was a good place to stop and test at. No issues on finding a parking space because cause there was plenty of parking. Swimming pool was nice. The deepest part is 6ft. Rooms are very clean.the AC work really well on this very hot day.
The staff was so friendly and helpful. Lisa worked with us and exemplified good old Texan hospitality. Thank you for choosing kindness and adding to a good place to stay! We'll definitely stay here on our next visit to the area and I would strongly recommend it to everyone.
I reported a problem with the television. The front desk would not answer the phone when I called. After walking to the front desk to report the problem they took no action to fix it. Then upon checkout, they did not charge the correct credit card. The front desk staff claimed they did not know how to change it to the correct credit card.
Rooms are clean. Complimentary breakfast was great with eggs & bacon waffles too! Wifi. Dish TV. The town is small & cute. Not a lot to do In Johnson city but you can definitely relax well & swim at this hotel.
Staff is friendly, courteous & helpful, exceptional! Cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. Breakfast was great. Owner gets right in there & works with her staff! I've stayed at quite a few hotels & this one is by far the best! Exceptional all the way around!
I decided to stay here before I reached Austin, and glad I did. Located close to Hill Country wineries and Austin. Very clean, quiet location, and pleasant, helpful staff. Room came with all amenities. Front desk gentleman provided some history on LBJ's family history in this small town named for his family, and recommended a nearby Mexican restaurant for a tasty Tex-Mex meal.
(Tagged it “No Shower Curtain” to get your attention) READ ON! traveling looking for a good clean place to sleep. It was a Sunday night after 7PM, so I was worried I wouldn't find a room. Stopped in very friendly lady at desk told me even she was surprised they had a room. By the time I got unloaded I was very tired. All I needed was a hot shower & bed. OK funny thing as I am getting into the shower I realized there was no shower curtain. There was no way I was going to get dress then go up to office. I carefully took my hot shower, then the next morning I told the clerk about the curtain. She apologized stating they removed them to clean, but my room must not have gotten it replaced. (Good to know they clean their shower curtains) *Room was clean, bed soft, pillows ok. *Internet was good, with no issues. *Parking lot was big enough for trailers, very well lighted. Breakfast was great, hot, & hit the spot. they were having problems with the auto coffee maker would be my only complaint. Lady maintaining the breakfast got it working again, but it was still weak. The attendant was doing a great job. HUGE dog/family area off the side of the hotel with pavilion.
What a dump! Our room was a mold haven! The bathroom walls and tub surround had mold on it. The exhaust fan was so dirty and full of mold we wouldn't even turn it on. The lampshades were stained and hanging crooked. The carpet had popcorn "old maids" and toenail clippings!! There was a space under the door about 2" wide, anything could crawl in. The breakfast was inedible. The sausage was grey and rubbery and the bread was dry. This was the most expensive hotel on our trip and it was DISGUSTING!!
Beds had stains on both bed covers and blankets. First room we had the shower would not adjust temperature of water so had to changed room. Also in the first room someone had covered the smoke detector with a plastic bag which was a big safety concern. Unfortunately there are not many other options of other hotels to stay at intown.
Cockroaches, cockroaches, and more cockroaches. Couldn't sleep due to said cockroach infestation. Also smelled like sewer inside the building, in our room, and on the grounds. Worst experience ever. Told the front desk and they sure did not seem the least bit surprised.
This hotel is FILTHY. Do not stay here. Parking lot full of cats. Dirtiest room we have ever stayed in. I made several trips to office to get a clean ice bucket…ours had water in it. There were also 2 used bars of soap left in our bathroom. Drive over to Fredericksburg.
Great motel. Right off Hwy 281 with easy access. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The refrigerator and microwave worked great. The price was very affordable. The service was very friendly. They did have a breakfast, but we did not try it.
sleeping in your car is an alternative, ants, spider, cockroaches won't be in your car. i took pictures of the and in the sink and showed to the front desk and the said again but they don't care. the breakfast was old stale bread and the potatoes tasted like two day old left overs and it didn't get any better.
Checked in October 13th checked out Oct 16th, 2022. Stayed in two different rooms - provided pictures to the front desk - they said they've had really back ant and insect problems recently, we changed rooms (110-121), lot better but still insects, ants, and a few flies in the bathroom, just not as many. Killed a few and decided we would stay in that room - we were extremely tired/it was late/ we needed to get up early/it was contained to the bathroom as the first room. I went back to the front desk in the morning and had the same conversation with a different front desk person. Told the same thing, pest control is out there every other week. I received a survey request and stated the same. Sunday morning, we were checking out, I complained and was told pest control must be there every other week due to ants and insects. Normally they would offer some sort of concession, but I didn't push it, just wanted to get out of there and hope my luggage wasn't carrying insects and ants' home. When I received a customer satisfaction survey, I expanded upon this, and I couldn't believe the response from the site manager and icarereflections@bestwestern.com that provides the survey via the president's office. I replied with pictures of the ants and the response from the BW location in Johnson City was there are no problems with insects and ants at their site. Funny - the site manager provided me her cell phone number while I was at the front desk checking out Sunday morning to text the same photos shown here to her while I was in her office. 210-865-7354. How would I have her cell phone number if she didn't provide it to me? She gave me her number so I could text her the photos of the ant pile and insects in the tubs (both rooms) so she could follow up with the pest control people. Find somewhere else to stay!
Nice motel in a small quaint Texas hill country town. They had Direct TV, just like I have at home, so I could find stations that I am used to watching. Very authentic Mexican restaurants within walking distance. Lots of events I 25 mile radius. Lots of clean lighted safe parking near our rooms. Very good comfortable beds.
The Best Western Johnson City Hotel is a very busy hotel. It is the only place to stay in that area between Marble Falls and Blanco/Dripping Springs off Highway 281. The management/staff are very friendly and accommodating. The condition of the rooms do not match up to the prices charged. A recent one night stay was more than $190 with taxes and fees for a room that was in the condition of a motel circa late 70's/80's. The room was clean enough…no bugs, clean bedding, however; flooring was old and upholstery was stained. This hotel being an affiliate of Best Western and also being quite busy throughout the year, definitely needs to update the interior room conditions.
This hotel caters to traveling work crews. Took my shoes off and walked through our room and the bottoms of my feet were brown. The card lock didn't work so they gave me a standard key to access the room, later in the day while sitting in the room someone else entered our room with a key! He said oh I had this key so..and the took off. The bathroom and adjacent sink area were crawling with small ants. The bath tub was full of them in the morning. The fridge was frosted sol8d and very loud, would have unplugged it but feared I would flood the room. Fixtures falling off the wall in the bathroom. The breakfast was decent but that was the only positive
Our stay was great. The hotel was clean and the hotel personnel we came into contact with were friendly and helpful. The food bar was good for a free food bar. However it had been hit hard by the other early morning guest by the time I got there at 9:00AM
You will not be disappointed in this hotel. Friendly staff, clean rooms, breakfast buffet, clean parking lot and one way in and one way out. Location did have a swimming pool. Easy access to highway 281.
Good value, very unexpected in such a hyper inflation time. Breakfast offers hot dishes, fresh fruits. One can have a leisure breakfast or grasp something on the run. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. There is no stale odor. Bathroom ceiling needs a little repair work. Wish more water coming out of the shower head. Outdoor pool is a bonus for family after a hot day under the Sun. Good location for visiting nearby Pacific War museum and President Johnson's home and ranch. Next door Mexican restaurant El Agrave offers delicious meals for families and adult diners.
This is an extremely overpriced, substandard property. They force me to write 200 characters: The room floor was dirty. The bed and bathroom were clean. If not, we would have insisted on moving. The water controls and shower curtains were loose from the wall. The door interior was dirty. The room was dark. The door exterior paint was all chipped off. Trash was strewn around the gazebo. 6+ cats were running around. I didn't mind; my husband did. The internet did not work. Breakfast items were out an hour into start time. Tables were dirty. The rest of the exterior of the property was orderly and looked clean.
The staff was helpful and friendly. We loved the western decorations everywhere! The room was clean and the shower was excellent; a welcomed massage. The eggs at breakfast were scrambled perfectly. The tea flavors were lacking but the orange juice was good.
The room was not comfortable. The bathtub/shower had been painted and the paint was peeling off into the drain. The bathroom floor corners had not been cleaned in ages. There were paint splatters everywhere. The sheets were grey and rough. The only good thing was the eggs at the breakfast were real eggs.
This motel is a nice place to stay while in Johnson city. If you're looking for reasonable accommodations at a good price point compared to many of the B&Bs in the area - this is a good choice. The room was clean, service by the staff was excellent, and breakfast was good. The only issue for the whole stay was the noise in the morning - there was a construction crew working and we were woken by their equipment earlier than expected.
This was probably the most nasty Hotel I have ever been to. There were multiple bugs I had to kill crawling around on the ceiling. The smell when you entered the room was musty and revolting, and I ordered a king room and the pillows that came with the room were 4 of the tiniest most uncomfortable pillows I have ever played on, they were so bad that we just used the mattress as a pillow instead.
Best hotel in Johnson City, TX. My family and I have been staying here for years when in the area, and are always pleased with our stay. The front staff are always friendly, courteous, and accommodating. They have an excellent pavilion area with a nice grill which we use often.
I reserved 2 rooms earlier in the week for my husband and myself and the daughter in law and the grands to have a place to crash after visiting the Johnson City Holiday Lights event. We also needed at least 1 downstairs room (mobility issue) and we travel with our Papillon dog so hotels and motels must be pet friendly. EVERYONE I spoke with were quite nice and very accommodating. Even down to the corkscrew we needed to borrower to open a bottle of wine later in the evening. Super clean rooms and the one thing that stood out to me was that the rooms were QUIET. The motel was booked solid -- yet, we heard very little outside noise from other guests. This is UNUSUAL even in hotels -- and was quite impressive. While we paid a premium for the rooms (event weekend) I'll gladly pay it again. We travel a LOT -- and this was one of the best rooms and service we've ever had.
This was a bed ONLY for two nights. The only good thing about the stay was the front desk hospitality. The lobby reeked of cigarettes. The bed was super had and crunched when you laid in it, The tub drain ring was rusted around the edges. It did not appear that the cleaning staff had done a very good job of cleaning the tub. The shower head was broken and would not stay in place so when it was on would splash water all over the back of the shower and on to the wall. The room had an unpleasant smell. The freezer in the in room fridge had formed a condensation build up so thick that we thought we were going to have to take an ice pick to it. (SMH) After coming back from dinner, we got NO sleep due to the guests in the adjoining room partying until 3:00 am LOUDLY. The next day after getting back from our tour tired and ready to rest, our room card didn't work and we had to go to front desk for a new one. We were there with friends who stayed in the room next door, their room never got cleaned and a bag of towels was left hanging on their door. The room was especially overpriced for the outdated, MOTEL experience. I would NEVER refer anyone stay in this hotel.
The room was very clean. Thought breakfast would be a bag with a muffin but it was very, very good. Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was crisp, the breakfast room was clean and welcoming. Overall I was impressed with my stay.
The hotel was infested with roaches. Me and my husband killed more than 30 in one night. I called the office and they could not change me to another room and could not do anything. At the end, we had too low the AC temperature to keep the roaches out. I called three times the office. They came with a Bed Bug spray. Because the only thing we could do to sleep well was lowing the temperature, my son woke up with sore cough. Terrible experience. Terrible staff!!!!!!!
Need I say more? There were actual bed bugs. But trip advisor says I must. So if I have to say anything, the breakfast was okay and the staff was generally nice. But it's pretty hard to come back from bedbugs.
I don't know how many times I've written a review for this hotel, as I always stay there when I visit wineries in the hill country. The hotel is basic, but clean, safe and an awesome breakfast. I'm going back with family from Peru in two weeks!
Key Card would not work. Could not turn on bathtub faucet. Sink would not drain. Every since foreigners started managing Best Western, the service and facilities have went down and the prices have went up.
Gross. Stay elsewhere. Blood spots on 1st set of sheets & another unknown stain on 2nd set. Finally, the 3rd set was clean. ROACHES. It's nice to wake up to the tickle of unknown origin in the middle of the night. I asked for a call from the manager, no call back.
During Covid you would think the rooms would be extra clean, not in this case.... I still had the previous visitors dirty towels in my bathroom and the sheets were not changed on the bed. I did gontonthe office and was told they had been so booked up they hadnt had time to get everything done! No thank you.
Our room felt so dirty. There were bugs flying around. Stained towels, old stuck gum right in the mattress. Pillows were so lumpy and pillow cases were put on inside out. They also had stains. Shower curtain had mildew on it and was turning yellow.
This hotel is one of our favorites. It is close to Fredericksburg and the wineries. The front desk and staff are always friendly. Rooms are always comfortable and clean. The pool and breakfast are an added plus.
Wow....pics are so deceiving! The pictures online are nothing what the facility looks like. It's a very dated facility and needs a total remodel. Unfortunately not a lot of options when traveling to the Hill Country....so little to no competition...which explains why the lack of TLC for the facilities overall. If you just need a place to sleep for a few hours sure...but nothing any more extended time. Sorry but for over $300 for 2 nights is way too pricey and not worth it. Staff is not too friendly either....which is surprising given the appeal of the area for tourists. Additionally staff does live on property as noted kids with cleaning crew during stay and at breakfast area too.
Upon check in during a very rainy afternoon I went to my room and upon opening the door there were two children in my room. I contacted the staff and they rushed a cleaning crew to prep the room. The children were employees children. I guess the policy is at this hotel is to allow family to stay for free and take up a room. Also the price of this room was $149 and when you look on the internet it claims rooms are only $87. This is called Bait and Switch.
I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. Upon entry of our room, we were greeted with children playing on the bed and eating snacks. After reporting this to the front desk, we were given a second room. In this room, we noticed a white substance dripping down the night stand as well as some dried blood stains on the sheet... I have never seen something so disgusting in a hotel room. We were then given a third room which was fine, but I could not get the image of the second room out of my head. I will not be staying here again.
The place was clean, but everything was starting to wear out. Noisy refrigerator, broken sink stopper, etc... Just needs a makeover. Had a nice outdoor area with a large gazebo, that our group used to meet.
Everything was nice. Quiet. Front desk people were very nice and polite. Speedy check in/out. Rooms were clean and well stocked. Good selection of TV channels. Only issue i had was the pet walking/picnic area they have needs some improvement. No dog walking station with bags (i had my own but not everyone does) also there were a ton of empty cat food cans laying all over. The stray cats were friendly didn't bother my dog but the cans look trashy.
Overpriced at $130, needs updated in a bad way. But they are never going to change, sold out at $130 per. BW needs to get off their butts and visit these locations once in a while. Bad bed, old furniture, bad carpet, bad shower fixtures.
I'm not very picky, but this property was supposed to be a 3-star and was way overpriced for the condition. The exterior is decorated nicely (Texas themed) and the check-in process was fine, but we had problems as soon as we got to our room. The exterior walkways are very bumpy and uneven, which could be problematic for anyone with mobility issues. Our key cards did not work so we had to go back to the desk and they said the slot must be dead and gave us a physical key to use. Our neighbor also had a physical key, so this must be a common issue. Our room appeared clean, but had a very bad sour odor which was unsettling. The pillows on the bed were lumpier than any I've ever slept on -- like a very old pillow that has been thrown in the washer and dryer too many times and all the cotton has clumped together (they were all like this). The toiletries in the shower were almost empty (they had the kind that are mounted to the wall and refillable). Breakfast was OK but many things were in short supply, the fruit looked very unappetizing and old, the juice machine was spitting out water with juice essence, and the DIY waffles tasted off (couldn't pinpoint it but maybe the batter sat out too long). I've seen worse, but overall, no more than 2-star quality at this hotel and definitely overpriced for what you get.
This hotel is dated, but they have some great things too. The staff is seriously the sweetest and so helpful. The breakfast was awesome for complimentary hotel breakfast- real eggs, waffles, biscuits and gravy, lots of fresh fruit, etc. We didn't get to use the pool, but I liked that it was surrounded by trees to provide privacy. My toddler enjoyed the swing and gazebo and running around the small park area. We felt very safe here. No major issues with the room. It could use some updates, but overall, we would stay here again.
We always go to Best Western at Johnson City when in the Hill Country: It has clean, spacious rooms that meet our needs, but what sets this hotel apart is breakfast - real eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit, and an assortment of hot drinks, etc.
This is by far the nicest place to stay in Johnson City. The entire place is clean and safe and the rooms are very comfortable. I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family and I plan on coming back soon.
Rooms were clean, but, old and outdated. Beds were not comfortable. Bathtub was old, plastic and stained. Great location in Johnson City next to good home cooking cafe. Staff friendly, but, this hotel is like an old, worn down motel lodge.
I had it booked to stay for 5 days. The first room had mold and water stains on the ceiling and in the bathroom it also had a patch of drywall just out up. When I went to use the shower there was no job to turn the shower on or off. So after I requested a new room my key wouldn't work so I needed to use a manual key that wasn't to bad. Things got slow for work so we had to wait around the hotel for a bit and they cut off the cable for 3 days no warning or anything apologizing took me asking for them to tell me and they didn't offer anything in return. Then another day I came back one of the days to my hotel room and my door was open with the lock jimmied and hanging from the door. I called the front desk and they said " well let us know if anything is missing and left it at that, no change of room or anything. Not much more then a motel 6
December 2020 Pros: Good location, moderate to low price for the Fredericksburg/Johnson City Area, motel style parking next to each door, typical BW breakfast food & dining area. Cons: Old building, old room furnishings, clogged bath tub, no shampoo or conditioner in the mounted dispensers, showerhead needs replacing, water was either hot or cold - could not adjust very well, carpet was very old and torn near the bathroom door, front door was smudged with black dirt, refrigerator freezer was iced over, pillows were hard. Overall: This review is mostly of room 123. It is possible that other rooms are worth the low price and location. This room was not. I rate this location as the 2nd "worst" BW. Best: BW Harbour Point in 2017, St. Ignace MI Worst: BW Troy Hotel in 2017, Troy IL
Good value. Could clean mildew from bathroom . Very good hotel breakfast! Would use this property again. A bit difficult to exit since driveway is aright at traffic light. Too much info but need to meet the 200 character minimum.
If you're looking for a basic motel room, this fits the bill. We found our room clean and it provided our basic needs for an overnight stay. It's close to restaurants, the Johnson City square, shopping, and on the way to the wineries.
The rooms where clean and the area was quiet and peacefully at night we had no problem upon arrival and we where able to park in the area with the wide parking lot they have the breakfast was good and clean
We made reservations at this motel and when we arrived we were walking to our unit and the motel's cleaning staff were wandering around totally maskless. There was some staff in the laundry room, at least three of them, without masks and I walked by another room and the maid in there wasn't wearing a mask as she worked in the room. We returned to the office, let them know we wouldn't be staying and had to find another place for the night.
Room was clean and comfortable and had all amenities expected. Over priced because of 4th of July (3 times the usual price) All towels were stained/spotted, room door would not shut unless slammed, or unless you leave the card key inside, trusting it won't lock, and then IT DOES!! Front desk was very gracious and friendly issuing another card key.
Taking a quick trip to find delicious Texas peaches. The hotel was clean and efficient. What I noticed most was the number of electric outlets in the room. With everyone being tied to some sort of device or two, it is nice to know someone was thinking.
The room was not clean at all. The toilet even had a major brown ring all in it. There was rust stains on some of the towels. The walls are paper thin. So with all of the loud crazy neighbors, didn't sleep much. This place has really gone downhill from the last time we were here. The only reason it got two stars was because I love the cats that hang in that little park. Otherwise, it would've been a 1 Star.
Nice, clean and quiet. Love the park area. Only complaint is no quarters available for the laundry. Other than that a good experience. Bed and pillows very comfortable. We will definitely stay again, next time to visit the Wine Trail.
Great place to stay, right off 290, very nice and quite. Beautiful canopy to picnic and have an Excellent breakfast. Johnson City a great place to visit and to go shopping. Front desk clerk very helpful in giving directions to specific areas.
When you're the only hotel in town like the Best Western is in Johnson City, they must feel it's OK to lack in service and cleanliness. We got to the room and the telephone did not work, the toilet was running and would not flush properly and there was no Internet connection. When I went to move the nightstand to check on the telephone wire I saw how disgusting the carpet was in back of the nightstand which looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in forever. Will probably stay at an Airbnb or something similar next time we're out in that area.
Close and convenient to our destination ,dinner and to see the Christmas Lights downtown. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We slept well even with our 3 year old grandson in tow! We did not try the breakfast as we woke up too late!
Staying with Johnson City Texas Best Western has been really peaceful restful a home away from home experience. In the past I used to stay and all the other hotels but I will go out of my way to stay Best Western now.
I didnt expect much from this motel, however it did exceed my expectations. Rooms were very nice and clean. Breakfast was delicious and fresh. Love the location to downtown Johnston City and the nearby State Park. I will most certainly stay here again if I am in the area.
Friendly receptionist, eager to help in any way. Rooms clean, breakfast was a wonderful start to the day. will go back again, hopefully during the summer so as to take advantage of the pool and the outdoor grounds.
Great location for the hill country. Close to Fredricksburg without the touristy feeling or high prices. Extremely nice lady at the check in counter. Put us in the end room so that we would be close to their dog area. And what a dog area!! Great little park area with an old wooden swing, a nice sized gazebo, lots of trees and a large concrete Texas star in the ground. VERY nice! Room was nice, but the towels are old, thin and rough. Shower water handle was exceeding hard to pull out to get water flowing and the neighbor's shower sounded like it was in our room. Otherwise, very quiet and convenient.
We stay here every time we visit the area. Rooms are great and so is the service. Breakfast is good as well. The staff is always accommodating as well. Close to everything in the area including Fredericksburg with out the traffic and hassle.
In checking into a room, one of the things you do not expect to find is a plumbers helper. It sort of tells you to expect a problem. Well, it was right. We did have to use it. Accessibility was another issue for us. In order to get into the breakfast area, we had to have someone open a door around the side that is usually locked in order that my wife could avoid going up steps. The final issue that we had, was that a particularly noisy group of people were outside our room and kept us awake for a period of time in the wee hours. The location is good and it is convenient to get to see whatever you want, but all in all, our experience here could have been better.
We spent the night here. It was great. The setting is amazing. Beautiful live oaks cover the grounds which are large. Chickens freely roam so that you can have their eggs the next morning. The rooms are more than comfortable. Several options are available. The main house or the bungalows. You won't regret staying here. Breakfast is individually prepared. Homemade green and red sauce. Oh ya forgot Einstein (the dog) and the well cared for goats.
Service was excellent. The employees were pleasant and engaging. No dissatisfaction whatsoever. Breakfast was great, plenty to choose from. The room was clean and had all the needed amenities of a home away from home.
Hotel was clean, has awesome open area with lots of trees and a gazebo. Swim pool was terrific especially with the heat. Fro t Desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. Told us how to get to the Buggy Barn Museum 14 miles down the road. Saw Pistol Packin Pauly. Breakfast was very good. They a totally use fresh eggs for breakfast. How cool is that?
Just took a cold shower. No hot water in room. Called the front desk 5 times w no answer. Finally walked down to front desk and got the strangest excuse about why no one answered the phone (the line doesn't go to the front desk???). Asked for the business card of the GM (usually prominently displayed at the counter at other hotels). The girl working went into the back for 5 minutes and could not produce one. During that time, another gentleman walked in to complain about his TV not working. He also tried calling the front desk (no answer). He got tired of waiting, so he walked out. Girl at front desk said Maintenance was on-site, but no one has come to the room or called. This place seems very poorly run/organized. My advice would be to spend $160 at another hotel with hot water.
Reasonable priced older hotel. Staff was extermely nice and helped me with directions the next morning and a good place to eat. Very small pool and a nice little park off to the side of the parking lot. A/C and internet wroked well, bed was comfortable and room was nice and neat.
Very good break from traveling across Texas. Older style but upgraded and comfortable. Clean and better than usual breakfast. Our experience are Best Westerns are very good, do not gamble on Great Westerns, they are not the same.
The walls must be paper thin, because I was awaken at 2:30 am by what I thought was a nightmare, people next door were making obscene noises. Manager barely did anything about it. I had to call police. I still had to pay full price for my room and another room to get some sleep.
I have stayed at this motel for a few years and they are a work in progress. Rooms are clean. The pool needs some more attention due to type of tress they have surrounding it. You need to like cats because they have a lot of wild one running atound.
Parking lot and curbs completely clean and swept. Landscaping neat and orderly. Brand new furniture, still smelled new. Desk clerk nice and efficient. They have a large park like area with gazebo, tables and grill, separate and off on other side of parking lot, away from rooms. Was worried about it being in a smaller location but was happily impressed
This is a clean, quiet little hotel in a convenient location with easy access to the highway. The room is large with extra sitting space and an extra spacious bathroom. The bed is so comfortable that I took a picture of the tag so I can purchase one for myself. I have never slept so good! The a/c was super cold even on a 114° day (like today!) The staff is very friendly and the breakfast room is bigger than any I've seen in a hotel. The breakfast was amazing! The surrounding grounds provide plenty of shade, a gazebo and even a wooden swing. It's the perfect place for a little quiet time before breakfast. While it's nothing super fancy, I could find nothing to complain about and I would definitely stay again if I was ever in the area in the future. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me!
While on the road, we called in our reservation in late afternoon. Front desk person was friendly and helpful on the phone. When we arrived, check-in was quick. Room was clean and adequate. We did have a little trouble with the Wi-Fi connection, but after a few tries, managed to log on and use it. A little noisy from a number of large work trucks pulling in late, but once they parked, it was relatively quiet. Decent beds. A/C worked fine. Coffee was not great, but good enough. Check-out was fine. No complaints.
Great location to visit Fredericksburg and Blanco and surrounding areas. Close to restaurants and very friendly staff. Complimentary breakfast was hearty and good too. Hotel was full when we were there and it was still quiet.
Spent two nights here while exploring the Texas Hill County. This Best Western is more like an old roadside motel where you can pull your car right up to the door, which is rather nice sometimes! The rooms are very nice and clean with good decor. I had a couch and coffee table for relaxing and a microwave and fridge. Breakfast was very good, both hot and cold items, including scrambled eggs that actually tasted like real scrambled eggs. I would stay here again.
The room itself was quite pleasant and cozy for a motel. However, upon inspecting the A/C unit I was not pleased to see mold growing on the vents. I was only staying for a night but for those staying longer might want to consider something else.
I visit friends in Johnson City several times a year and always enjoy my stay here, especially at Christmas! The lobby is decorated for the holidays and feels as cozy and welcoming as someone's home, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. The management have been making improvements all over the property since I first started staying here years ago and it seems like there's something new every time I come. All the rooms were upgraded this year with new furniture and more contemporary art that's still true to the character of the hill country. It's easy to see why the hotel has been fully booked during my last few trips! Don't skip the breakfast—it's not just your basic Continental fare but a generous spread of cooked options (prepared fresh every morning) and even a waffle maker—and if you visit during the holidays don't miss the light display downtown. You can even catch Johnson City's excellent fireworks from the hotel lobby if you happen to stay for New Year's Eve!
My husband stayed at this hotel 2 weeks before we book it for the Christmas lights in Johnson City. He had told me after his stay for a hunting trip that he really enjoyed the hotel. It was comfortable it was very clean and the breakfast was really good. He was right. The room was very comfortable and everything was extremely clean. It has a microwave and the fridge and a sofa and coffee table so that you can sit and watch TV instead of sitting on the bed. It was almost completely full the two nights that we were there but it was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the only problem that we had is the water wouldn't get very hot, got pretty warm but it didn't get hot and the little one cup coffee pot kept turning off so we had to keep punching the button to keep it on. We could have gone to the office and got another coffee pot so that wasn't really a problem it was laziness on our part. The staff was extremely professional and helpful and housekeeping is great. This hotel had added touches that set it apart from other Best Westerns. I put some pictures of the touches that made this fitting to the Hill Country very well. They had a gazebo, they had a Cypress or Cedar porch swing in a frame by the gazebo. Along the top floor railings is some wrought iron scenery from Western Days. I was impressed that they fly a Texas flag in the United States flag, which at the time we were there, was half mast due to President Bush's death. If you're in the Fredericksburg or Johnson City area I need to stay the night this Best Western is much is much more reasonable than any of the b&bs are hotels in the area.
Old style with drive up parking just in front of the rooms. Some may not like but I prefer to see my vehicle. Only downfall is hear people outside which is a strange feeling. Room was clean & comfortable. Breakfast was good. Great coffee. Added bonus was a discount upon arrival & then spotting Santa in the lobby the next day. He visits each weekend in December.
The AC worked great! Our rooms smelled wonderful. The beds were comfortable. The staff was extra helpful. Breakfast was better than homemade! Access coming in from the opposite direction was a little hard to maneuver but we did fine.
I've been coming to this hotel for years when visiting friends in the area and it gets better each visit. The service and hot cooked breakfast are always great but it's obvious the management has been gradually renovating and redecorating to improve the overall standards. The rooms now have more contemporary furniture and artwork that's classy but still reflective of the hill country setting, the exterior has been refreshed and relandscaped, and the lobby and dining area are very well done. I look forward to visiting at Christmas for the famous Johnson City lights and seeing what else has been updated.
Troubles at the Hotel we stayed at. Mold, dirty, uncomfortable beds. Filthy carpets, noisy!! alot of construction crews living there.. 3 nites in one room till my of arms were chewed up by fleas....so we moved to another room a few doors down, then the new noisy air conditioner wouldn't cool. So... on to the 3rd room. Air was working then an hour later I turned the air down that's when it starting burning like burned rat, surprised the smoke alarm didn't go off. So just moved again in my pj's to room #4 in the pouring down rain. So hope this last one @ 8pm.we will not ever stay there. Our family has been advised when visiting Johnson City Texas. I would rather sleep on the floor at family's. Told we would get a refund but haven't recieved it. From a very Unhappy senior couple from Oregon.
Very nice stay. Quiet, nice bed, Clean rooms, great staff. Loved the garden rose area with the gazebo. Even had kittens to watch Play. Great continental breakfast, loved the fresh fruit. Would stay here again.
We stayed here for two nights. There aren't many options for hotels in Johnson City. This is one of them. The lobby and breakfast area was modern and clean. The woman at the front desk was exceptionally friendly, courteous and helpful. Our room was not the greatest. There was a strange smell in the room. The carpet looked very dirty. Not like it hasn't been vacuumed but just collective dirt being ground into it. The refrigerator and microwave were supposed to be in a cabinet designed for said items but were instead sitting on the other side of the desk unplugged. Not an issue, just strange. The bed was comfy, the rooms relatively quiet. Plenty of hot water from the shower. The room was very dark. Overall a sufficient place to stay but not somewhere I would necessarily seek out if I were coming back through Johnson City.
Would recommend to anyone staying in the Johnson City area. Our church camp is just 20 minutes away but at our age it requires a hotel stay and we have found this to be the best location, bargain and general all-around great accommodation.
This is an older motel that has been remodeled. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfy. The bathrooms were clean. We booked 5 rooms for a family reunion. The only problem was that one room had been smoked in...and even though the staff had put in a smoke extractor and left the door open all day, you could still smell smoke... we were given a discount on all 5 rooms instead of just the one problem room. There was a person seeeping the walkways and parking area every morning. The breakfast was made on site and was delicious. The staff was attentive and polite... overall... it was an excellent experience...!!
The hotel staff are friendly and share information of the amenities. I enjoyed the green area near my room. I will return to visit in the fall if not sooner. Thank you Best Western for this convenient location.
PROS: Service & Price. Staff was nice & provided a great rate when booking. Breakfast was normal/fine. CONS: Was put off by room smell due to smokers outside... found random items outside of our door (large, unfinished oatmeal???) some days. New room was probably cleaned well, but old & not fully comfortable with rooms' quality.
Nice clean hotel. Front desk person Stephanie p was really pleasant intelligent and helpful Hugh plus Sitting gazebo very please thank surprise Town is nice. Interesting art. Good brewery. Hhhhhhhhhhhhj
Lukewarm coffee served in breakfast room. Poor quality machine. Owner made excuses. 2nd floor ice machine did not work. Owner made excuses; claimed it had been fixed last week. Ha! 1st floor machine was 1 year old. 2nd floor machine was older.
Overall impression: nice, convenient and friendly but a rather old hotel with price a bit too high for quality of rooms. Pluses: Excellent location for exploring Hill Country. Very friendly and helpful stuff. Convenient parking. Rather large garden where guests can walk their dogs – great feature! Breakfast is OK, nothing too spectacular Minuses: Rooms are tired and there is a strong smell of disinfectant. Bathrooms need some renovations.
We are Texas wine lovers and regularly visit wineries in the Johnson City - Fredericksburg area. We always go to this hotel when visiting the Hill Country: Awesome staff, clean rooms, excellent breakfast!
I really needed to use the internet to get some work done. The front desk person was rude and the "help" number she provided said they could not provide support for this hotel. Then, the next morning I woke up with big red bites on my arms. They weren't there when I went to bed. I was given a $20 discount for my trouble and was told, "Thank you for letting me know." I will be going to Blanco or Marble Falls next time I travel to Johnson City.
The Best Western had the best beds I have slept in. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast was good. The price was much less than in the surrounding areas, but close enough. We went to LBJ Ranch and some wineries. Also the Pacific Museum in Fredericksburg was interesting. The restaurant right outside of the Best Western had the best food in the area.
Although this motel is showing it's age, the rooms were clean and the beds are comfortable. A convenient location for visiting the wineries, LBJ Ranch and Fredericksburg. Breakfast is filling and changes daily.
Excellent Hotel with outstanding staff, the room are the best I have seen, and they server an excellent hot and delicious breakfast. The BW is locates near the LBJ ranch, and the LBJ park. If you into tasting wine, the BW at Johnson city is the best place to be for it is just couple of miles from all of the winery.
There is a beautiful park on the grounds of this motel, with a gazebo, vine-covered swing, roses, magnolias and barbecue grill. People get married here and have family reunions. Guests meet and talk while walking their dogs. It is very honest and down-home. It is lit-up at night so you can stroll around and get a breath of fresh air before retiring. Whoever it was who decided to build this park within the confines of the motel property was a person of great imagination and creativity. I loved staying here.
Absolutely awful, the bedbugs were everywhere, you didn't even have to look for them. Interestingly, my previous review stating this was deleted. The hotel didn't charge me, but didn't even try to reimburse me for the inconvenience either. I had to move two sleeping kids at 11 pm at night to another hotel 30 minutes away, which was twice more expensive. The manager did call the nexgt day but dismissed the issue as something that 'happens everywhere'. Awful, will never return to that hotel again and will avoid Best Westerns in general at all costs.
We use this hotel when we visit our family in Austin outskirts. The hotel is convenient, comfortable and pleasant staff and is a great value. We mostly visit in the winter so we have not been able to use the pool, although it looks inviting. Easy access in and out of the place thru the light. We always enjoy staying at this place.
This hotel met our expectations for a hotel stay. We are pleased with the facility. staff was friendly; food was well prepared and good quality. The dining area was nice. We would have no trouble recommending this motel to anyone.
An older hotel, but nice appearance and the bathroom was clean and updated. The upstairs concrete walk way did go up and down a bit, but it was the hill country. If a car, checking in, parks in the center of the covered area, they will block cars from coming in or out. The coffee maker in our room needed attention as it sputtered and splattered coffee all over the outside of the cup and the refrigerator hum was a little loud, but the bed was great.
great staff and very accomidating - so friendly and welcoming and we have stayed here 3 times this year - even if it was further away from the winerys that we visited. An excellent choise and again a very great staff --- we really enjoyed our stay and the staff helped that a great deal. I would recommend this motel to anyone - we probably won't find another motel with this good of staff--- we have stayed many places and this tops all of them....
The Best Western in Johnson City, TX is our favorite place to stay when we travel. Every single person who works there is so friendly, professional & goes out of their way to make our stay amazing. We used to takes trips to this area about once a year, but since finding this hotel, we now come about once a month. Everything about this place is fantastic... the staff, the rooms, the breakfast, the location. I wish every place we stayed took this much care.
Great stop. Quiet and clean. Older motel, but they have done well to keep it up to date, especially the breakfast area. Great breakfast with eggs, a meat and biscuits and gravey. Easy in and out and the staff was friendly.
Stayed 2 nights. Clean room. The first breakfast was excellent with REAL scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes. Second breakfast not so great for us as it was more Mexican style with tacos and that bean thing. Nice quiet room but I don't think it was full. Would stay again just for the eggs!
Slept fantastically! The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. We heard absolutely no street noise despite being facing onto a busy road. Breakfast was amazing! Fresh fruit. Plenty of options. Staff was so kind. The night shift was very accommodating and informative about the local area. The owner is also nice.
This is hotel in Johnson City is about halfway from McAllen to Dallas. We travel with two dogs and they are welcome here. There is a nice park to take the dogs to exercise them. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were very clean. The breakfast was very good.It was prepared by a friendly lady named Beanie. We really enjoyed the food and the conversation. It is located at the intersection 281 and 290, so it has convenient. access.
We visited Pedernales Falls with our daughter and son in law. I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights with king beds. It had been about 10 years since we've stayed in a Best Western chain but in the area of Pedernales Johnson City, the options were few and we didn't want to have to drive a long distance after a day of hiking. Check in was a breeze. Stephanie at the reception desk was super nice. The room was a nice size and clean. Bed was comfortable. One big comment and big no-no was that some of the towels has stains on them. They appeared clean but need to use more bleach! Free breakfast was a big plus and very good.
Handicapped Room only had a Queen Bed which is inadequate when one person is handicapped. Only one set of towels per person which was inadequate in my case. The breakfast included eggs and sausage with gravy...real comfort food.
I have stayed at best western on most of my travel and have been very satisfied this year at Johnston city was no exception enjoyed the area of the wineries my niece had her wedding at one of the wineries if you in the area stay at Best Western and visit the wineries
We were really impressed that the breakfast buffet included fresh strawberries, blueberries and kiwi fruit! The hotel was pleasant, if fairly old, and a good place to stay--but more expensive than most places we have stayed.
always stay here when visiting this area near Pedernales Falls, Fredericksburg, etc...hotel has always provided clean, comfy accommodations & generous fresh breakfast...nice staff & owner, too...highly recommended!
In the process of phone calls and trying to find a good price on a one night stay near a scheduled Family Wedding Event in Dripping Springs Tx. I happened to call this location in Johnson City just one day prior, this hotel is only about 25min away from the wedding venue. I never booked a room at all but remembered the reasonable price. Upon making my commute to the Wedding venue I called, and even stopped at other Inn's, The pricing for a one night stay was outrageous! Amazingly! When I called this place again to see their availability, the price was the same and our stay was absolutely comfortable. The staff were very kind and informative. Thanks For your Hospitality Best Western Inn! I plan to go back for my own relaxation!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay with our 3 dogs. This hotel has a dog area, picnic tables and a gazebo. Everyone was very friendly and kind. Other guest who fled from the hurricane also had dogs. I was a great place.
We vacationed in the Hill Country and wanted a centralized location, and Johnson City Best Western was our choice. If you don't mind driving out of town for restaurants like McDonalds, Whataburger, etc., you will not go wrong staying here. It is clean, peaceful and the staff is wonderful. Their continental breakfast is really good; their scrambled eggs are made using fresh eggs. We highly recommend Pecan Street Brewing for a great meal with super friendly service. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant!
This hotel was centrally located to all the places we want to visit. We look forward to going back but this time in cooler weather. The staff were great and very helpful. The breakfast was one of the best we have had at any hotel.
The motel was very clean and well maintained. Excellent location for the motel, and the price was perfect. The breakfast was well layed out and was always well stocked. The coffee served all night long was good also.
Great place to stay in Johnson City. Front desk personnel went above & beyond - thank you Stephanie! Very comfy and nice. Will definitely stay here again - reasonable price and worked great for what I needed for my trip to this area.
Two thumbs up! Entire staff was gracious and professional. They had a genuine desire to make not only your stay with them enjoyable but were also helpful with dining and entertainment suggestions for the area. The breakfasts were outstanding!! Great choices and the full breakfast entree dishes were always filled, hot and delicious. A definite to revisit and to recommend to others, as well!
Ladies at front desk were very nice and professional. Rooms were clean and comfy. Breakfast was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area. The price was very reasonable.
This was a great hotel to stay at when in Johnson City. The room was very nice, beds comfortable and the grounds were very nice. The breakfast was nice and hot, with waffles, eggs, bacon and assorted other items.
We had to stay in this hotel because we were here for a friend's wedding in dripping springs and her hotel wasn't dog friendly. They let your dog go swimming in the pool. The price was amazing and they have a dog park area which was super convenient. The rooms had great counter space. We were beyond happy with this. Marble falls is a 20 min drive has great Italian and right next to the hotel had such good burger and chicken tenders
Excellent stay! Very nice and clean hotel. Staff was wonderful and friendly! We will stay here again. It was in a great location, which allowed us to visit different areas of The Hill Country. Rates were very affordable.
Great motel with very helpful, friendly staff. The staff in the front handed my kids goodies, like coloring papers, crayons, 4th of July stuff. It was a great touch. The breakfast was nice and they serve until 10, which is nice compared to most hotels that stop 9. Will definitely stay again.
We were staying at this motel to attend a wedding being held at a farmhouse just down Hwy 290, and this is the only choice in Johnson City tied to a national chain. I have stayed in several Best Western properties in the U.S. and Europe and have always had good luck with the brand. The front desk staff was friendly if a little rushed. The motel was also accommodating a lot of bikers during our stay so they property was close to sold out for the weekend. Though the bikers were nice, you could definitely hear the roar of their loud motorcycles as they came and went. Luckily, they were pretty quiet overnight. We were assigned a room on the second floor. The room decor was very dated. The beds were a little firm yet also somehow lumpy. The vanity was outside the main bathroom, which made using it in the middle of the night wake the other person in the room. There was also a mildew smell about the room (maybe that was the room A/C) though in general everything seemed clean. It was cricket season or something because they were all over the place at this motel. You couldn't step outside without stepping on one, and they were super concentrated around the vending machines. Nothing like the crunch of bugs under your feet to make a good impression. The one bright side is that the pancakes at breakfast were good. In addition, my friend's parents booked a room here. Our rooms were booked several months in advance when there was plenty of availability, and it was noted that one room needed to be handicapped accessible since my friend's stepfather had suffered a stroke earlier in the year. When we arrived, they had been assigned a standard room instead. The front desk said the people in the other accessible rooms had stayed over from previous nights. It's pretty standard to tell guests they cannot continue occupying an accessible room that's been promised to future guests, but this motel did not honor that, and they did not ask any of the guests to vacate for the second night. Not having an accessible bathroom really caused a hardship for his parents, but at that point there was no other place in Johnson City to go. If you absolutely need an accessible room, do not trust this property to have one available for you. Overall, I was not satisfied with this experience even though I understood going in that it was a motel and not a full-service hotel. This property does a disservice to the Best Western brand. This room was also more expensive than a much nicer room in Austin at a La Quinta the night before, so it was a really poor value for the money spent. I would recommend finding a place in a neighboring town or use a house-rental service instead.
There was a mix-up in my hotel reservation and the ladies at the front desk were a blessing when I checked in. I was traveling with a large group. The 2 front desk ladies (Stephanie & Stacy) were great and they got us checked in and went out of their way to make sure everything was ok. Will stay here again. The rooms were good and the breakfast was fresh and good.
We needed a quick place to stay while visiting the Hamilton Pool Preserve. We found this hotel, the rates looked good so we booked. The staff was super friendly and the stay was awesome!! We would definitely recommend!
The rooms are old and a bit dated but clean. My room was a bit dark. Very old shower and tub. Beds were comfortable and clean. No elevator to second floor. They had a large choice of items for breakfast with real eggs and bacon. At checkout they gave me a little 'for the road' basket of candy.
We stayed in Johnson City only because we could not find anything in Stonewall. We are Platinum members and they recognized that upon our check in with offer of extra points or gift bag. Front desk was very nice and informative. They have a nice breakfast to include eggs, bacon, biscuits/gravy and waffles. Nice area to eat your breakfast as well. Very good coffee. Location is good if have event in Johnson City but kind of far if your activities are in Stonewall or Fredericksburg. Made for long drive late at night. Lots of critters out! Rooms are clean. However, walls are PAPER THIN. Had neighbors up past midnight and then other side up at 6:00 AM. I did not sleep well at all. It sounds like they are just outside your door. Regardless of what time it is, you can still hear them talking and TV playing. Did not utilize pool area so could not rate that but looked okay. Overall, average hotel for Johnson City visit or passing through. Restaurants are good and parks look great, but other than that not much else to do there.
We stayed at the Best Western in Johnson City when in town for a wedding in Hill Country. A lot of the other guests opted to stay in Fredericksburg because it seemed like the more interesting place, but I was put off by the so-so to iffy ratings of the accommodations there. The Best Western might have less to offer in terms of fancy amenities and posh stuff right outside its door, but it seemed like everyone who stayed there had a good experience. I'm glad I trusted my instincts! The Best Western is a fine roadside hotel in a place without a lot of options, and the people who work there are CLEARLY interested in making sure you have a good stay. The front desk staff are super helpful. The rooms are a little dreary but they're clean & perfectly adequate if you mostly need a place to crash. There is a pleasant small sort of park with a gazebo next to the property where kids could play or a dog could be walked. Good small pool for kids to jump in. The free breakfast buffet has Texas-shaped waffles and the staff around the breakfast room bend over backwards to make sure you have what you need. When we checked out, we got a roll of lifesavers with a sort of decorative sticker on it to thank us for staying there. How often does that happen? BUT ALSO: a bunch of those other people going to the wedding who opted to stay in Fredericksburg had bad experiences at their 'better' hotels: no hot water, broken AC, room not cleaned, room key not working, etc. They paid double what we paid & got one-half as much. Only thing they had that we didn't was cool stuff in walking distance (shopping, wine-tasting, restaurants). We just got in the car in the mornings and drove there to meet them, so I still think we came out ahead. ;0 Our only complaint was that the room was supposed to be non-smoking but when we walked in we got blasted with an icky prominent reek of old cigarette smoke. It was clearly a guest who stayed there not long before us because the smell was less & less each day. Still, it would have been good if the room could have been aired out before a guest was put in it. But that was the only real downside of our stay.
This Hotel in Johnson City was in the heart of all the wonderful little towns to visit. The staff and services were wonderful. The internet was terrible but they are working on fixing the problem. Already booked for next year!
My husband & I had a nice one night stay at the Best Western. We were especially impressed with the hospitality of the front desk staff. The room was clean and comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay here again when in the area.
We stay here mainly for location in the hill country without the crowds of F-burg. The rooms are nice enough altho the price went up this year because they are "remodeled". We didn't notice any remodeling. They have a pool, a nice gazebo and park like grounds The front desk staff is very nice.
The staff at this Best Western is wonderful. Everyone was helpful and considerate. They even found a pair of slacks for my husband to wear 45 minutes before we had to be at a wedding! There are fresh cookies at the counter, a nice breakfast, pool and park area. This property is very well maintained and close to wineries, state parks, LBJ Ranch and other areas of interest. It's a great value and we were happy to be out of Fredericksburg, which is already packed with people and more expensive. This is a great family location and I think kids would love the pool area and fun decorations.
A friend and I were primitive camping at Pedernales Falls State Park when we realized we really needed to get something substantial to eat. So, we hike out, drive to Johnson City, and have dinner. While dining, a massive (unexpected) thunderstorm rolls in. It's pouring, thundering, and lightening everywhere. We decide we don't feel like hiking back in (2 miles) to sleep outside in this weather. That's where the West Western comes into play! They had a room available for us, and we were delighted to be able to sleep indoors! The front desk woman was super sweet and mentioned that they frequently get campers from the park when the weather turns. My legs were aching (we'd hiked 4 miles that afternoon, 2 of which carrying camping gear) and I had blisters on my feet. I called the front desk and was provided with pain reliever free of charge. I was SO grateful, because it helped me actually get to sleep that night! The room was clean, the beds comfortable. We were delighted to be safe from the storm, dry, and watching cable! We indulged in the free breakfast, fueling our bodies (we still had to hike back in and pack up our camp because we'd abandoned all of our gear there)! The Best Western Johnson City Inn was exactly what we needed!
Stayed there in March 2017. Parking is right outside the room door. Every aspect of the stay was very very good. WiFi access easy and connection very good and reliable. Would stay here again. Convenient location on the way to Fredericksburg from Austin, not far from Johnson ranch.
We stay here when we go to the Hill Country. It is convenient to the places we like to go to. The breakfast makes the stay great. The grounds are a big reason we stay here. It is a place that we don't have to sit in the room but can sit outside in the gazebo or other seating areas. Well kept and comfortable.
Good location, tasty breakfast, clean and comfortable room, and great customer service. We enjoyed our stay. I would recommend for the price value along travel of US highway 281 from Marble Falls to San Antonio.
I love this BW! This is the first time I've seen a "themed" BW, which really sets it apart from the rest. The Texas theme is everywhere, from the flags, windmill, the relaxing iron cowboy to the iron work along the railings. But a theme can only take you so far...and that's where the friendly staff come into play. They are knowledgeable about the area and offer up suggestions for places to eat and things to do. The rooms are clean and comfortable, which is an essential element for an enjoyable stay. Our only disappointment is that the A/C unit was a bit noisy, and when running the room was cool...but as soon as the A/C stopped running the room was warm and a bit stuffy. (Not enough to complain in the middle of the night, though.) Overall the hotel is very quiet, and has a lovely park with a relaxing gazebo perfect to sit outside and enjoy a warm Texas evening. And...the price is a bargain for the area. I would gladly stay here again.
We stopped one night and they had a room. The staff wad very kind, helpful and personable. The property was clean and quiet despite being a lot of vehicles there. Would recommend this place and stay here again
We needed one night, between one birding location and the next. Johnson City fitted the bill. Just a regular motel, you might think but it would be difficult to think of something this place lacks. It would be hard to find fault, so we are not going to try. Reception, the room, breakfast - ah yes: breakfast. When was the last time you could watch someone scramble your (real) eggs? Faultless - and what a bargain. And PS: the pool surround looks like something straight out of Tuscany. A stay to remember . . . fondly.
THE surprise during our 3-weeks trip to the US. Front desk clerk thanked me for my loyalty with the brand and offered a welcome gift (by the way the ONLY Best Western property out of seven on this trip, that even mentioned my diamond membership.) + Board near front desk with a list of breakfast items offered (a nice idea) + Great breakfast: FRESH raspberries, blackberries and blueberries that were great with yogurt and waffles. We travel extensively, consequently many properties to compare with, but I cannot recall even expensive hotels which offer fresh berries. + Spotless clean + Decent sized pool + Gardenlike picnic area with a gazebo + Friendly, helpful and attentive staff + Great value + Quiet/no traffic noise although close to major highway The management apparently cares for premises, rooms, guests and service. I would be back in an instant. Highly recommended.
This isn't a fancy hotel but they go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. We needed a place to nap and sleep between seeing parks in the area. The check-in very very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are basic but clean. Free internet. The free breakfast was hot and yummy - including those iconic Texas shaped BW waffles. We didn't try the pool, but we did spend an evening in the park/garden, which had a swing and was lovely. Even though it is right on the highway - the room was very quiet. They had treat bags at check-out. It fit our needs for this trip perfectly.
When in the area, we generally stay in Fredericksburg, but just to change things up, we choose to stay in Johnson City. Best Western had the best reviews, and now I see why. Price was great, staff were very helpful and welcoming. Accommodations were just what we were looking for. Very clean, and comfortable. We were greeted with a warm smile and home made cake when we checked in. The clerk noticed we had a Harley Davidson Credit card and said, "come in tomorrow and I'll have something for you." Turned out they make up these little gift bags for member of Harley Davidson. It was a hadmade "Hog bag" with lolly pops, a bandana, hand sanitizer. Really cute. Our room was very clean and the stuffed chair was only 2 weeks old. Bed was comfortable. They no longer provide individual bottles of shampoo, and body soap, like so many places, so we always bring our own. I've had some bad reactions in the past. Next morning we went to the free breakfast, and it was the BEST I'd ever had. Eggs were REAL, not powered. They had make your own waffles which were better than I'd had anywhere else. They coffee was unique, out of a machine that had three levels of coffee (weak, medium, strong). Kind of cool, I mixed the medium and strong and it was perfect. This machine also has hot water to make hot tea or coco or instant oatmeal. They had the usual other breakfast foods, pastries, muffins, bagles, bread and a toaster. The other hot items were biscuits, gravy, and sausage patties which we enjoyed. They also had cold cereal, fruit, etc. From what we saw, the lobby was clean and well cared for. I WILL stay here next time we are in the area. I had a bit of a problem connecting to the internet, and called the front desk. Next thing I knew, the clerk was knocking on my door to help me. WOW, never had that kind of assistance ever! We stayed 2 nights and kind of wish we could of stayed longer. Can't wait for our next trip just to come here.
Wonderful stay made by cheerful and friendly staff and charming garden. The rooms, while average looking were comfortable and met our needs for a stopover in the Hill country. Breakfast was very good with healthy and filling choice. We especially appreciated fresh berries. What could be improved? - the toiletries dispensers in the bathroom made the hotel feel cheap. The internet in our room was very slow - it was impossible to connect. Fortunately a charming gazebo offered note only a pleasant, charming view of rose garden but greatly improved connectivity. All in all, we were happy with our stay. The staff was wonderful at both check in and check out. The gift and cupcakes upon checkout were a very nice touch. The humorous posts resembling historic marking are much appreciated.
Hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. Easy access from the main road and many restaurants near by. The property had a nice gazebo with table and chairs. I would definitely stay there again.
conveniently located; very good and easy to access WiFi; front desk staff very pleasant and helpful and professional; rooms open directly into parking lot (park outside your door); very nice facility; clean, quiet; nice free breakfast
It is a small yet very cozy hotel. The staff was amazing and rooms were always kept clean. They have an amazing lady who comes to cook a fresh cooked breakfast each morning and it is delicious! I will be going back to this hotel if I ever decide to go back to Johnson City! Keep up the good work!
I left Dallas mid afternoon was taking a solo trip down south checking out all the side roads and enjoying the local flavors… I realized it was getting late the sun was going down and personally the back roads are not safe for traveling on a motorcycle especially when you see all kinds of dead things on the side of the road… I stopped at a gas station filled up my tank and use trip advisor and find a local hotel… Front desk was busy with two other customers and she said to me can you wait a minute I have a slight emergency I'll be right back… I waited got a great deal for my wait she brought me into the kitchen and gave me a few treats to tide me over till morning… Very friendly staff, room was clean and have a microwave and mini fridge decent variety of TV shows to keep me entertained till morning… Breakfast was adequate and freshly cooked… Who could ask for anything more. The only uncomfortable moment was stepping in dog poop from the person who was residing next to me who chose not to clean it up… Unfortunately I had no idea it was on my boot until I got into the hotel ... once realizing this took the boots outside to try and clean them… Pet owners need to be responsible. That was the only uncomfortable moment during my stay… Otherwise the hotel, their staff, the food was great!!
Best Western was a good value in a very over-priced area of Texas. The wine country hotels/motels are gouging. Johnson City was centrally located and excellent staff. Complimentary Breakfast was fresh and nice selection.
We had a late arrival and it was no problem!! Very Friendly staff and just a wonderful room, clean and pretty plus the front desk called about 30 minutes after arrival to make sure we didn't need anything. AC was great, bed was comfortable, and room was just relaxing. Exceptional Breakfast with something for everyone, waffles, cereal, fruit, yogurt, eggs, sausage, gravy, and biscuits!! LOVED IT
Typical motel. Room was decent and pretty clean. Workers were so very nice and helpful. Breakfast was ok. Nice goody bag and free treats at the front desk. They even had a free day bag with bottled water, granola bar and an apple to take with you.
My husband and I were with a group from Houston touring the hill country with a focus on birds, bats, bees and wine. We stayed at this centrally located hotel in darling Johnson City. It is the epitome of sweet small town Texas hospitality. There is even a country cafe next door for convenience. About 10 minutes after entering our room we got a phone call from the desk to ask how everything was-who does that anymore? I think this area is full of interesting places which people from other parts of the country and world should see to get a feeling for the real Texas.
My husband and i stayed here this weekend and it was wonderful, clean, and quiet. The staff was spot on the and breakfast was good. Very reasonable and cheaper than staying in Fredericksburg. I will drive the 38 miles and save the 100.00. Will stay there everytime i visit, which is often.
Best Western in Johnson City, Texas is a clean & conveniently located hotel. Staff is nice & helpful. Nice park-like area. Free internet. Good sized rooms & comfy beds. Nice & free breakfast. Coffee pot, frig & microwave in room.
Nice hotel. They have put a lot of work in to making it look unique. Room was clean and comfortable. There is a nice garden to relax in. The staff was great. Near the brewpub and only 17 miles from the state parks.
I have never noticed a hotel with SO many personal touches. It felt like I had walked into someone's home when I walked into the lobby. The young lady at the front desk was very helpful on local attractions. She offered to call & make reservations for us wherever we chose for dinner. They had a full hot breakfast that I was highly impressed with. I am used to traveling & staying in the same boring rooms with all the same things in them. If youre looking for something different, Best Western Johnson City is the place to go. They have truly added a personal touch to the property that makes it stand out from all other Best Western, Very pleased!
Right in Johnson City. Clean, the best ever breakfast, full and hot. Easy to get your reservation and people are very friendly at entering the motel and will accommodate you in anyway they can. Have our king size on the first floor and hope to go back again for another stay during football season.
Excellent service and caring people. Hotel surroundings and room were very clean. Internet service was fast; not only in the room but also in the lobby What else could I ask for? I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends.
The location of the hotel was central for our visits to the area. Hotel was very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast.Rooms are big. Free WiFi. Had a nice onsite park for picnic and relaxing.
Best Western Johnson City is the perfect outpost to hang your hat when on the search for art, antiques and collectibles. It's just down the street from a photography gallery and contemporary art gallery. Several gift shops, eateries, and wine tasting rooms. Fabulous destination for those who like to wander and enjoy. Take your camera to capture the flavor of a small Texas town, visit LBJ's boyhood home, and chat it up with the shopkeepers. Plan to stay the whole day - you'll be entertained.
Easy to make a reservation and plan trip; nice facility; comfortable and ease of access to room and amenities; great breakfast presentation and appropriate meal choices and items; friendly staff and assistance at both check-in as well as check-out; A/C worked very well in room for summer in Texas
We were on our way to Fredericksburg on Saturday, June 4 when we experienced car trouble that caused us to have too stay over 2 nights before we were able to see the mechanic on Monday the 6th. It took all day long to make the car repairs and the Manager Goga and front desk help Tracy worked with us to keep us comfortable until we could leave. The rate was wonderful, the room was clean, the breakfast was pretty good and what could have been a bad experience was made easier by these wonderful people and Best Western Hotel!
this was a nice night stay for our traveling group. the staff was friendly and helpful. i just with johnson city had more places to eat that stay open late. The rooms were clean and comfortable. parking was adequate. we arrived late and were checked in quickly and efficiently. this was a comfortable stop on our way to padre.
Dripping Springs was venue for the wedding we attended. Needed a hotel that was dog friendly, and charged a small fee for a pet (ONLY$10.00 PER NIGHT). This BW Hotel had a gazebo outside with chairs and table to dine on, a swing on the lawn property, and large grassy area with trees for the dog to roam. This hotel was only 23 miles from Dripping Springs. The reception staff was friendly, accomadating and the Continental breakfast was best ever of any hotel I have stayed!!
The staff was excellent. Very courteous and took care of all our needs. The rooms were very clean and maintained. Breakfast was very good. The food was nice and hot. The lady there kept it very well stocked and the tables clean. Ladies at check in were very nice. They answered my questions and also seemed to know the area very well.
I stayed here for a sporting event at nearby Pedernales State Park and didn't want to camp due to the threat of rain. I travel quite a bit and generally know what I'm in for when staying at an inexpensive place in a small town (nothing good)... but I must admit that I was delighted by the entire experience here. The staff was fantastic from start to finish, the room was clean and well-appointed, and the shower was great. On the downside: the refrigerator was a bit loud (I unplugged it), and the driveway's proximity to a major intersection made entering and leaving the property a little tricky sometimes. I'll likely stay here again the next time my travels bring me to the area.
Our first room had AC problems; they made sure to move us without questions, into a room that was very cool. They also gave us a bottle of wine for our troubles. It is close to so many good Hill Country sites and has a unique sense of nostalgia and place.
We stayed here when my husband ran a marathon in the area. Clean rooms that smelled nice. Nothing fancy but certainly meets your needs and is well maintained. Friendly staff. Beautiful outdoor area to sit and enjoy a beautiful Texas morning or evening. We will stay again during future marathons!
We needed a late check out and management authorized that for us. However we missed the requested checkout time and were late. Management was very gracious and understanding, they accommodated us anyway. We were able to shower and quickly and hit the road. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of service at this hotel. I intend to stay here again each time It travel this way.
Stayed here four nights. A great jumping off place for the surrounding area. A drive up to your door type motel which I like. The front desk person was very nice and gave me a veterans discount. Each day there was a different gal at the front desk and all were nice and helpful. The breakfast was the best we encountered on our two week trip. The room was pretty good for an older motel. No complaints.
The Best Western is the only hotel in Johnson City, TX so you'd think they might be tempted to slack off. Not so here. From check in to check out they treated us well. When we first arrived we were a little worried as there was a lot of kid noise at the pool. Once we got into our room however, it was quiet and peaceful. This is not a 5 star hotel but it's clean and comfortable. My wife did her usual "bed bug check" and found nothing. That's great this time of year in Texas. The room smelled clean and the bedding was comfortable. The free breakfast had the usual choices and tasted good. We'll return when in the area.
Overall pretty clean. The sheets did have some orangey stains on them, but everything else was pretty clean. The beds are comfy, actually got a good night's sleep. The service really is amazing. It's better than some big named hotels I've stayed in. Definitely will stay here when we come into this area. Highly recommended!
We wanted to visit the LBJ family, boyhood house and the Texas White House at LBJ ranch. The location was perfect for this. The staff was friendly and helpful. We appreciated the guest laundry. The room was serviceable. Wifi was slow. Similarly prices BW this one could we updated.
We have had reason to visit Johnson City repeatedly this year, business and pleasure, and have always found this hotel to be very welcoming and comfortable. While it is an older hotel, the owners and staff obviously make a great effort to maintain it, and each time we come, we notice changes and updates to improve it even further. Highly recommend it for good value and super welcoming attitude. Just a note: wonder about some of the negative reviews on here...our own experiences do not jive with some of the stories, and it makes me question if the other reviewers have mixed up this BW with some other place? ALWAYS been a good experience for us.
The overall stay was good. Beds were good. Took a while for someone to check me in. I went to take a shower and there was no hot water. I wouldn't take a chance on staying there again. I like my showers.
We just love to stay at this hotel! Friendly staff! Wonderful breakfast! Just love all the items they have for breakfast! Fresh eggs, yogurt, waffles, biscuits and gravy! Clean rooms, freshly updated rooms! Most wonderful park just to enjoy the day at! Many extras staying here!
Mainly because it's about the only hotel in Johnson City. But it's clean, well maintained, and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good. There's good food within walking or a short driving distance. All in all, better than I expected for a small South Texas motel.
Our room had a fridge, microwave, iron, ironing board, TV, hair dryer and coffee maker. We had internet issues--couldn't sign on the night we arrived, but were able to sign on the next morning. The hotel was a little pricey for the town, but they made up for it by being the only hotel on the trip with meat on the breakfast menu. Accompanying eggs and sausage was cereal, fruit, and waffles in the shape of Texas. The desk staff was nice according to my husband.
Rooms are clean and I have noticed the last couple of times I have stayed there seems to be some remodeling going on with new furniture etc. The staff are friendly and helpful when needed. The continental breakfast is just fine and comparable to others.
First up: backed-up toilet. Maintenance brought Plumbers Helper and fixed. Next: roach crawling on telephone going after soiled paper towel on the floor. After swatting that, reached for the remote. Didn't work. Exasperated, plugged in my phone to recharge for the morning. Nope. No plugs worked. Really? So gave up and went to bed. Next morning noticed how dirty and truly nasty this place was. Very old, hasn't been painted in years. The breakfast was passable. Horrible experience. couldn't wait to get out of there.
we stayed here after a wedding in dripping springs and was disappointed in the place for the price. For 109$ I felt like I was getting ripped off. Hotel (Motel Cough, Cough) was hot and smelt of old cigs, and the staff was ok just not very lively. I'm a Hilton guy and I wasn't expecting the double tree but I've paid similar fees at nice establishments in Austin compared to this place and I felt like I was stolen from. It was a place to sleep and I did that so I made it, just felt like I was over charged for a room that I could get for 20$ in Mexico!!
This hotel is the only game in town with a pool. A must have for me. I have been coming to this Best Western regularly for more than 10 years. What everyone needs to know is that Johnson City is a small town so this is the best commercial property for lodging when you want hotel amenities. Originally, as with many Best Westerns they had a strong local theme. In this case, flower gardens (a nod to Lady Bird Johnson) and a strong Texas theme. I know the history of the change in management and I can see that this place is better than it was a couple of years ago. I travel to Johnson City so that I can go back and forth between Johnson City and Blanco for business/pleasure trips. I would love to see Johnson City give Blanco a run for their money BW to BW. In the meantime, the room was clean and everything worked. The staff quickly moved me from an upstairs room next to a party group with smokers on the balcony to a downstairs room and away from them even being fully booked. This is a shout out to the management on duty Friday night. The pool is your standard "cement pond" but I get the best tan at this pool even in February and they have surrounded the pool with tightly planted cedars that keep the pool totally private and I love this detail. This is a small town BW and you need to keep that in mind to be fair. The office has always been helpful to me and do a great job! I am a loyal customer to Johnson City Best Western!
Clean rooms, good locations and wonderful breakfast which lasted for the breakfast hours and was constantly refilled. Location was excellent and made it easy to get around the Hill Country and visit all the tourist attractions
Loved the wrought iron railings with western scenes upstairs along with other outdoor decorative accents. Room was fine -comfortable and clean- even tho decor a bit dated. Across the parking lot was a beautiful park-like setting with big trees, tons of roses, & a gazebo. Very relaxing & lovely after a long day's drive. Great for all ages! (Would skip the pool.) Staff was super nice too, so for us, it was a great choice.
This hotel was recommended to me by a friend, and it was a exactly what I was looking for. I will recommend this hotel to others. Two queen sized beds in a good sized room, attractive, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. It was better than the room we had in Fredericksburg-which was double the price. It was a great value and very restful, which is exactly what we wanted. Loved that it had a refrigerator & a microwave-plus WIFI & a Good TV. Very enjoyable for the end of our "girls weekend". Plus it is located between two restaurants for lunch!
I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff and grounds are outstanding. It is easy to get to several "big" cities from this location, such as Austin. I have stayed at this hotel many times and have never been disappointed in any way. I will be going back and will encourage family and friends to use this hotel.
This is an older Motel in the middle of town. If you just need a place to sleep overnight it will do. The refrigerator made a buzzing noise all night when it recycled. Also the bed was all right but not plush by any means. There was hot water in the sink but not in the bathtub so I skipped the morning shower. Then I figured out that the control panel was installed upside down. There was the typical breakfast menu served in most motels. The exception was the scrambled eggs mixed with bits of onion and sausage.
This is an extremely nice hotel in every way. We were very impressed with the friendly and professional staff, the cleanliness of the entire facility, and the great breakfast. We felt the price was very good and we definitely would stay there again.
Booked this place as it was one of the only available, and got good reviews. We needed reliable wifi for business purposes, and unfortunately, the wifi did not work. It was one of those infuriating problems, where we could physically connect, but their login page looked like it was recently updated, and had an error. We wasted a lot of time thinking it was our fault, then contacted the front desk. They rebooted everything, but we still had the problem. This was compounded as we could not find wifi nearby - we called subway. Maybe McDonalds has it. There appears to be problems getting wifi around here - in this specific case, though ( I'm a techie ) it was not an internet problem, but local to the Best Western login page. To their credit, the management of Best Western gave us 25% off - they handled it well - this is why I did not give them a lower rating. The grounds were nice, as well, with some nice touches. Breakfast was surprisingly good, in a nice room as well.
Stayed two nights here since Fredericksburg facilities were not available because of spring break. This is a true motel setup and no frills. In fact people filled their ice chests leaving the machine empty and we had to go downstairs to another machine. Room is sufficient, and clean. Beds comfy. Breakfast ran til 10:00, a real plus. It included beans tortillas and salsa as well as the usual waffles, eggs, sausage.... Nice staff.
Hotel is very conveniently located. Bed firm enough for me, room reasonably quiet, pleasant staff. Had to grab breakfast to go, but had enough to chose from and it was good. Spacious room, plenty of room to work. Glad I stayed. No elevator, curtains didn't quite close, but I had a clip in my bag.
Very incompetent front desk attendant, he allowed someone else to check in under my name. he did not check ID or credit card. Room was not what I reserved or on the floor I reserved. The room was very dirty and smelled. The air conditioners dial was broken, there was no cold water coming out of the sink, our room had only hot water in the sink. Was very very dissatisfied with my stay at this hotel.
Check in was quick, friendly and professional. . The room was clean and the bed comfortable. I enjoyed having so many pillows. We asked for a recommendation on dinner and were told about El Agave next door. It was perfect for what we wanted. We also got directions to the wedding venue. The breakfast was a nice mix of offerings. I am already planning a return trip to Johnson city and I will stay at Best Western.
We had a nice stay at this Best Western. Rooms were clean. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was good. We would stay there again. Kids swam in pool that was well kept. This is a motel where the doors open to the outside so there was a little extra noise but that was too bad.
We've stayed here three times because it is the only real hotel in the area. It is a sufficient hotel with a good breakfast and helpful people. I do think it is overpriced compared to other Best Westerns.
Nice reception area. No one in the food area for breakfast and the food ran out and some was cold. The receptionist on check in however gave us some candies which we thought was a nice touch on arrival. We didn't swim. Looked like a small pool. Had a lot of men on the balconies staring at us on arrival. That could be unnerving but could have been an isolated instance. Was still afraid even though was with my husband. Kind of had a creepy vibe because of that. Good price and was close to the sightseeing that we were doing so that was why we decided on this hotel. Pricey for what you get. Older hotel.
We enjoyed our stay in the hill country and Best Western offered the best value we found in the area. There is a large, shaded area with a pavilion, cedar swing, and large trees to walk around after a long drive and also let your pet stretch their legs. The breakfast was very good quality for a standard motel. Rooms were nice and quiet as well and this location is pet friendly!
Very clean. Friendly staff. Fridge in the room. Low price. Breakfast was very average. Bananas were old, food was just ok. Great for cereal/muffin lovers. I just don't like motels with outside doors but not many to chose from in a small town. Office & surroundings were well decorated.
who knew such a little gem would be found in tiny Johnson City? all the usual amenities plus some very unusual ones: wine, chocolates, & towels folded into hearts for Valentine's Day?!! welcome surprises from an obviously caring staff...nice people, good service, real breakfast...HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Our stay at the Best Western in Johnson City was a wonderful and unexpected experience. The friendliness of the staff and quality of the room was great. The little extras on Valentine's weekend of roses, wine, and chocolates were very much appreciated and surprising. We normally stay in Fredricksburg for a wine weekend but decided to try Johnson City instead this time and so glad we did. Thanks to the staff for a wonderful weekend stay!
...to have this hotel...combines the friendliness and particular charm of the Texas Hill Country with the standards and convenience of a large hotel chain...caring staff, comfortable rooms, generous free breakfasts...location SUPER convenient...extra perk: the pretty little park next door!
This Johnson City hotel is a very good place to stay! Clean rooms and breakfast area, friendly staff & wonderful breakfast. We were there in December & Santa was also there for breakfast for the kids - nice touch!
We arrived in a driving rain storm and felt really fortunate to have a place to stop. The hotel is old and a bit dated, but the staff was friendly and the room was clean, dry, and comfortable. We got down to breakfast a little late, not expecting much. The eggs were real eggs, though, and the bacon was perfect. The coffee was hot and strong.
Nicest and most appropriate holiday décor we've ever seen in a chain hotel....MORE IMPRESSIVE: the lengths hotel owner & staff went to to help a stranded traveler with a car malfunction and 2 hungry kids...without any fuss (or charge) arrangements were made to find them a room in a fully-booked hotel, ferry the family to another town to get the part needed to repair the car, install the part, plus take the family to get some dinner AND to drive around to see the famous holiday light display!!! All this after 7 pm in heavy rain, cold, and on the busy Thanksgiving weekend! WHY can't other hotels (& businesses!) be like this?! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!
It was a delight to return to the Best Western in Johnson City. Had stayed there after Hurricane Ike. Would book it again . Room was always stocked with clean linens and cleaned when we returned . Did not know until we left that breakfast was available.
Stayed one day clean, comfortable bed and good showers. Outside had nice decor and a small park with sitting area's and bbq pits. Free breakfast but woke up too late to try. Close to many attractions and restaurants. Would stay there again.
great place to stay.nice park and gazebo .well kept ground .fresh cook eag for breakfast and frendley breakfast attend.love love place and they are getting reddy for holiday be sure to visit the festival of light .
This is a well kept, clean and well managed motel. Rooms are old school but comfortable. Breakfast room has adequate seating and the food is excellent. The main entree varies from day to day. So if staying for several days it does not become "ho hum".
Though the building is older, effort has been successful to bring it to modern conditions. The room was clean, bed comfortable, internet fast. Breakfast was very good. The staff, particularly the owner, was very attentive. This is a good value if you're in the Johnson City area.
Room was clean and quiet; bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a full buffet with quality foods that were well presented. Staff was very helpful and flexible. Location allowed us to easily visit the LBJ ranch and boyhood home. Local businesses offered friendly service and reasonably priced meals.
When I went in to the lobby to register the first thing I noticed was the stink - not good, but the receptionist was friendly and when I checked out the receptionist was also very friendly. So it's a friendly, but not too clean place. The sheets on the bed appeared to be clean, but they were so wrinkled that it looked as if someone had already slept in the beds. The rooms look worn out and old, but the bed was comfortable. The sink was dirty (hair) and I didn't use the shower/tub. I did worry if the sheets were truly clean because of how sloppily the beds were made. I'm hoping that the maid just didn't know how to make beds properly. I think it was a poor value, given the price.
We stopped here for the night and were pleased with the room and outdoor pool area. Everything was clean and well maintained. The breakfast was very good and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Nearby restaurant was good place to walk to dinner.
We were in Johnson City for five nights and have no complaints about the Best Western. Our room was clean and bed comfortable. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. It really was a nice stay.
We stayed here for a local wedding. Room was a good size and had standard hotel furnishings. There was a musty smell in the room and hallway that we could not figure out what it was. We only stayed for a night and it was a decent stay. A/C worked incredibly well and we had trouble getting out of the bed the following morning. Breakfast is your typical continental breakfast.
Great little place to stay for the weekend. Has a park area for walking dogs and letting the kids run off some energy. Pool is secluded behind trees and shrubs for privacy. Room was sufficient and comfortable. We would stay there again!
We stayed here on our road trip from Austin to Carlsbad. I booked this from Expedia. The room is older but clean. The beds were very comfortable. There is a refrigerator and microwave in the room. They serve breakfast in the morning. I did not go because I wanted another hour of sleep. There is not much in this town but we wanted to see The LBJ Ranch. This town is where LBJ was born....THE RANCH IS NOT TO BE MISSED!
My third year to go run the Texas Lighthouse Hill Ranch Trail Race, and this is the place where I usually stay at. I've never been disappointed. The staff are great, helpful and most important friendly.
Thankfully we brought our own sheets and towels because there were nasty stains on the sheets, pillows, couch, etc!!!! Save your $100 and find somewhere else to stay. I'd sleep in the truck before I came back! We didn't even want to look at the breakfast because who knows what condition the kitchen is in.
We had a great stay here. Staff warm and welcoming. Loved the newspapers and coloring pages and crayons for kids. Room was clean and comfortable, and microwave and fridge worked great. Pool was simple and nice. We would have appreciated the pool towels filled back up each day but not the end of the world. Breakfast was simple and filling. Free eggs and bacon always a good way to start the day. Pet friendly which is great. It is conveniently located near great restaurants and things to do. Love to stay here again soon.
