Best Western Plus Hotel Ilulissat

We had booked four nights at the hotel, but were delayed by two days due to fog. We were not presented with a bill for the missed nights at either check-in or check-out. Half an hour before we left the hotel on the airport shuttle, I received an email demanding payment. I didn't see it until the following day. The email only listed an account number and an amount—nothing else. I requested a proper invoice, as I do not have a local bank account and cannot make a payment without an IBAN. Three weeks and at least four emails later, I finally received a reply (though still no proper invoice). I paid and asked for a receipt, as I need to claim the amount back from the airline; however, two weeks later, I still haven't received a response from Front Office Manager Harry

Chaotic billing, arbitrary charges, unfair treatment of Asian visitors and disruptive staff blocking guests before departure. We stayed four consecutive nights with split bookings due to hotel room availability: 1 executive twin room + 1 standard room for the first three nights, triple suite for the final night. All accommodation fees were fully prepaid on Agoda; all city taxes for four nights were settled fully upon check-in. 1. Unreasonable DKK 1000 late check-out charge On move day, the new suite was uncleaned. We only waited inside our original rooms for relocation without overstaying. Receptionist Harry forced us to pay late check-out fees. Charging guests for waiting during an in-house room transfer is unheard of across European hospitality. 2. Misrepresented executive room & unequal treatment of Asian guests The executive twin room booked via Agoda was downgraded to the worst room in the hotel with poor conditions and terrible views, inconsistent with platform photos. Discriminatory room allocation towards Asian guests is evident. 3. Staff attempted duplicate city tax charge without checking payment records (unsuccessful) All four nights' city taxes were fully paid at check-in. During room transfer, Harry did not verify our payment history on the hotel system and tried to charge city tax for the fourth night again. He backed down only after we provided payment receipts. This matches numerous public complaints about repeated tax charging at this property. 4. False accusation of unpaid bills, blocking our departure, resulting in missed airport shuttle All charges were prepaid with zero outstanding balance. As we were about to take the airport shuttle, Harry blocked us publicly, falsely claiming unpaid suite fees and involved his supervisor to prevent us leaving. We consequently missed our scheduled shuttle. The hotel only sent a vague apology afterwards and refused to address the staff's serious mistakes and misconduct. Poor management, flawed financial procedures and unfriendly attitude toward Asian travellers. Strongly avoid this property.

Okay so the blackout blinds could be better, but, this is a great hotel. Staff were all excellent, very friendly and helpful, restaurant (had breakfast and dinner) was good and the location was ideal.

Great location right beside two big supermarkets and several cafes and restaurants . Spectacular views and many easy walks to central areas . Friendly, welcoming staff . Very comfortable bedding , requested and received firm pillows . Breakfast adequate , restaurant menu limited and food average . That said viewing balcony that wraps around the restaurant compensates for any food issues . Small but adequate gymn equipment available .

Best Western Plus is right in the center of Ilulissat on the top of small hill with fantastic view. Hotel is 100m of the street and no noise even with open windows. We stayed in Suite which was pretty big and in great conditions but ... window covering was pretty poor and sun light was all over the room 24 by 7. It was summer and 24-hour day. This alone made our stay unpleasant. Second problem, there is no storage closet nor any shelf in suite. There was sofa, 6 chairs, 2 tables but no single shelf. So we have to use everything as "storage shelves". Finally, there was a big clean kitchenette with tea spot, coffee maker and microwafe but no mini-fridge (?) Right after, we stayed a night in Iceland where room was in 4-5 times smaller than our Suite in BW but they squeezed closet with shelves and mini-fridge. Also window covering had 2 layers and completely protected room from sun light. All those problems in BW pretty easy (and relatively cheap) to fix in no time but ... they are there as if created intentionally (?) for whatever reason. I have no other explanation. Included breakfast was good enough as well as dinner at restaurant plus great view but menu is very limited. To be fair all 4 restaurants we visited in Ilulissat were great but had very limited menu.

The hotel and the room are generally well equipped with good location, food and great roof top. While the room is equipped with curtains to account for the midnight sun, the few centimetres in width missing are limiting there benefit. Furthermore the rooms towards the bay are exposed to the sum almost H24 and get therefore very warm. There is a small window that can be opened but if you do so, you have to sleep with bright daylight. It is hard to understand that the fundamental issue with heat and light are not addressed in this recent hotel. We felt there are better options at this time in the year.

Excellent room - clean and comfortable. Ideal for one person - might be a bit too small for a couple. Free breakfast was very good - nice choice of items including gluten free. Amazing view from the breakfast restaurant.

'You get what you pay for'... Helpful staff, amazing views from big windows, comfy beds, sun terrace and delicious brekky with GF options. Central and airport bus included.

We splurged out a bit and stayed in this beautiful hotel for one night – we were very impressed. We got a free pick-up from the port which delivered us right to the hotel door. The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk to cafes and supermarkets. We got a Superior room which provided great views over town and out to the ice-choked bay – very special! The room was spacious and bright, clean and comfortable, with plenty of space to unpack and spread out. The Smart TV and Wifi internet worked like a charm. The breakfast was excellent and not to be missed – plenty of variety and served in a beautiful restaurant on the 6th floor of the building with amazing sea/ice views. We made use of the “mini-fitness” room in the basement. It was very small and poorly equipped with a treadmill, stairmill, and bike, plus an annoyingly incomplete set of dumbbells (missing a 12.5kg, a 15kg, and both 17.5kg). Oh well, better than nothing. The lobby as very nice with plenty of places to sit and relax while waiting for check-in or waiting for your afternoon/evening flight. Overall we were very impressed and would recommend it to other travelers looking for a luxurious base for their stay.

The hotel is new and if you book a room with a view the rooms are larger than the standard rooms, however given they face the sun-the rooms are exceptionally hot. Standard rooms are very small with maybe 1/2 meter between wall and bed. The staff does not close the drapes and as such the sun bakes the room-you can only turn the thermostat down to 20 degrees which did nothing to cool off the room-nor did opening the window. I had a to switch to a standard room-which is very small but does not face the sun. Hotel did not compensate me for changing to a smaller room. Breakfast at the hotel was amazing. No lack of salad, eggs, breads, yogurt, fruit etc. Hotel is centrally located within walking distance to everything. I booked directly with the Best Western and the hotel cancelled my reservation without notifying me. I discovered the cancellation and was thankfully able to rebook. This would have been a nightmare if I did not realize this until I arrived as the hotel was soldout. Hotel did not honor my request for a higher floor room and attempts to reach the hotel in advance to ask questions went unanswered. One morning I ran out of hot water in the shower. I stayed for a week and house keeping stopped cleaning towards end of stay. I also had to ask the hotel for soap in the bathroom. Beds are comfortable and hotel does a bag of laundry at a very reasonable rate. The biggest issues for me were the cancellation of my reservation, the warmth of the room (fans are not available) and the hotel tried charging me more for my room. Thankfully I had a copy of my rsvp.

Excellent choice for accommodation in Ilulissat, good location, clean rooms and kind, professional and most helpful staff at the reception. Exceptional breakfast with wide variety on offer and good quality. Possibility of arranging free shuttle to and from both airport and Disko line boats. We stayed here twice, before and after the visit to Disko Island. First time we had small but well organized room and it was perfectly fine. Second time, however, the room was even smaller and not so practical, definitely too small for two people with larger luggage. Also, on the second visit we went for a dinner at the hotel restaurant and were disappointed that there were no vegetarian and/or vegan options on the menu. On our suggestions they adapted one meal, but the other ended up eating fries. As the breakfast was good, restaurant still have room for improvement.

I stayed at this hotel arranged by Greenlandair due to a flight cancellation, and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The hotel features stylish decor and a clean environment, which immediately made me feel at ease. Although the room was a bit small, it was well-maintained, and the blackout curtains allowed for a good night's sleep—even during the sun-never-sets days of summer. The breakfast was unremarkable, but the breathtaking view of the iceberg-filled waters more than compensated for it. This stunning backdrop added a unique charm to my mornings. The hotel's location was also a plus; it's conveniently situated near Ilulissat's main street, making it easy to access supermarkets and local foodies. I ended up booking another night here after another Icelandair cancellation, which speaks to my overall satisfaction. However, I did encounter a minor issue at the reception. The staff attempted to convince me to take a taxi to the airport, even though the shuttle bus was only ten minutes away. This felt a bit misleading and was the only downside to my stay. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its modern amenities, cleanliness, and fantastic location. Despite a minor hiccup, my experience was generally pleasant.

My family and I went to the restaurant to celebrate a special day. The hotel is new so expect a modern design. We waited a few minutes before we were seated to our table plus an hour to get our starters before the main course. I chose the shrimp caesar salad and the waiting time was too long for just a salad and the hefty price. Even though the food was good, it doesn't outweigh the time it took for the food to arrive. I expected the time to be shorter for the food to arrive my hungry fingers and mouth and my empty stomach. The service was okay. I noticed the waitresses service didn't match each other. Some seemed kind and helpful and asked how the food was, but others could improve their service a bit. The view was amazing still. We could see the sunset and the amazing views of the icebergs and huge clouds above. Some locals were also kayaking which gave us an incredible view and a touch of their culture. You could get lost staring at the view and imagine gigantic whales swimming and jumping and splashing and what not and unicorns in the sky shooting magical spells out of their horns. I can't complain about the price because ye it seemed fair. 4 people starters, main course and desserts for 2000 danish kroner.

Given the remoteness of Ilulissat, climate challenges and an impossible supply chain, I was expecting to find a somewhat rustic hotel which would probably keep us warm most nights...this Best Western was anything but that. Our 5 days there were exceptional. The breakfasts were fresher than fresh and more elegant than 5-star hotels I've stayed at in Paris, Zurich and Venice. The rooms and public spaces were kept very clean, it has a great location, and friendly staff. A big plus is the travel agent desk set up right next to the hotel front desk. This company is owned and operated by locals and they can get you hooked into all the sights worth seeing and doing.

Very good location, it has the best views over the town and the Disko Bay. Excellent breakfast, comfy beds, friendly service. The hotel is a good base for discovering the town and surroundings, as it is centrally placed and next to the main street with cafes and shops. Highly recommended!

Excellent service , superb view from the rooftop . The dinner was very pleasant and the breakfast was a good mix of local and international.We only had one night there on the eve of our departure but wish we had booked there rather than the ice fjord hotel which was a total disaster

When we picked to stay here, we didn't really realize how centrally located it is! Everything is within walking distance, and everyone who works here was helpful & kind. There's a super nice young woman named Laa who works at the delicious restaurant (on the rooftop, with the most spectacular views) and she was always so kind to our family. The front desk staff was also very courteous & helpful. The family room was great for 3 of us. The executive twin room was also nice—gorgeous views from higher floors. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious (we really enjoyed the smoothies, fresh fruit & the assorted breads). All in all, I'd say it's the best choice in town.

The high floor view is good . Front desk staffs were very helpful on my travel requests, especially supportive when I facing next hotel booking issue, she helped me a lot to solve it. When I requested iceberg tour info, she helped me to check availability and introduced a good service provider. Thanks a lot.

This is the newest hotel in town -fresh and ready! Top marks of it -is the location and the roof terrace. My room came with the view of ice-fjord, village & harbours, the little landmark church. 3 huge floor length windows, the middle part can be open to a 90 degree angle. All hotel staff were friendly, accommodating, always willing to help. The highlight was the rooftop bar and restaurant, extended to an open deck. As we come for the included breakfast; step out of the lift, greeted with jaw-dropping views: ice-fjord of all sizes floating on the harbour, on the distance, everything is glittering under the low hanging sun. This's truly "On Top of the World!" All of the sudden, all your problems/complains fixed instantly! The buffet breakfast was wonderful and delicious. Dinning here on sunset is equally enchanting. The menu was simple western a la carte choices with local fish. It was expensive but presentation was beautiful and, it was very delectable. I especially liked the little free info. booklet they provide on the front desk. A small hard copy print of Ilulissat with color photos and simple backgrounds on the museum and, directions of a few different walks. Also provided were free stylish folded little map of good shops and important landmarks around town. I loved those prints so much and took them home with me as souvenir. Would love to come back in winter for northern lights & other adventures. I stayed 5 nights and got a free night for future stay in all BW hotel as a reward. Love it.

This is a new hotel in Ilulissat. I was in an Executive room 302 on the 3rd floor for 7 nights. My room was great with a magnificent view of the icebergs. The breakfast was very good with much selection. I highly recommend a room on the 3rd floor or higher. I only have 2 complaints: the windows were dirty, which is unfortunate when there is such a great view, and the front desk staff could be more friendly/helpful.

I stayed for 5 nights and one of staff in restaurant is not friendly, even request us leave window seats because some customers would like to take our seats. However, lots of seats are not occupied. Airport shuttle delay 20 mins. Be careful when asking hotel to arrange shuttle bus.

While waiting for a table in the rooftop restaurant it was not possible to have a drink. Breakfast was horrible. Soft boiled eggs were cold, bacon soft and greasy. The smoked halibut was too old - greasy and smelling bad.

Bit disappointed to show up at your hotel late last night to learn that the room doesn't have ocean view.... which we booked and payed extra $ for. We even talked to the front desk and they didn't seem to be willing to find a solution or at least offer an refund ?

Greenland Air put us up here for a night after our flight was cancelled. It's centrally located in downtown Ilulissat. Our room was extremely small. You could barely walk in front of the bed and it was difficult to find a place for our luggage. The bathroom was small but manageable. We got a few English channels including CNN. WI-fi was excellent. Same for the blackout curtains which were very effective. The breakfast buffet is served in the Roof Top restaurant and is very good. Lots of variety and everything was fresh. The views from the restaurant are outstanding, They have a small bar in the lobby that is adequate. Not sure why they don't move it to the Roof Top restaurant. It would benefit from the view. Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. Overall, a good hotel but I don't recommend the basic rooms due to their small size.

This is a review of the Rooftop Restaurant which is terrific. The Filipino staff are so friendly and accommodating. But you do need to book. Food comes quite quickly and is very good. The starter coconut curry soup with shrimp is excellent. Very subtle flavoring. The halibut can also be recommended as can the main course. For vegetarians they only have one option and it is the baked tomatoes which is quite substantial. For dessert try “ the Coffee” which has zero coffee. It's a chocolate brownie/soufflé type dish with ice cream and caramel. The texture and different chocolate flavors are exquisite. I had two of these two nights running! Just yum! The views of the ice fjord and Ilulissat are exquisite. The fastest WIFI we experienced in Greenland to boot.

Hotel has great location and spectacular view over the city and bay area, few minute walk from the grocery store and tourism operators. Good rooms and food options at the restaurant. shuttle service from and to the airport provided.

Great location, cool building and amazing rooftop restaurant with a fantastic view to the harbour, sea and the icebergs in it. Ilulissat is a charming town that is well worth a visit. However, the hotel service was poor, from the handling of check-in/out and quite basic questions in English to dealing with complaints. This hotel has great potential but the staff at reception really needs to shape up.

A highlight of our 17 day Artic journey in August 2022 was the four days we spent in Ilulissat, Greenland. We were fortunate enough to be able to book a room in Ilulissat's newest hotel, the Best Western Plus Hotel Ilulissat. The excellent customer service began when my wife and I were met at the Ilulissat airport by the hotel's transport shuttle and promptly driven to the Hotel Ilulissat where we were welcomed at the front desk. The hotel lobby is very spacious with ample seating from guests as well as a business area. The front desk offers sales of light refreshments including hot and cold beverages. After we checked in, we were off to our room. As soon as we walked into our room (Room 402, an Executive Room) we were impressed with a great view of Disko Bay and the town of Ilulissat. Our room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The blue theme of the room complemented the views of Disko Bay. The bathroom was also spotlessly clean with modern appointments and complimentary toiletries. I was surprised at the excellent quality of the wifi. The Rooftop Restaurant is on the 6th floor and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was included in our stay as well as our first night dinner. The breakfast offered breads, pastries, meats cheese, fruits and vegetables as well as other breakfast foods. I particularly enjoyed the special local offerings! These included smoked salmon, musk ox pâté and whale pâté. The whale pâté was delicious! I described it to my wife as tasting like a fish brisket. Our first night dinner was included and was pretty good; the service was excellent. My wife had the cheeseburger which she enjoyed. I had the rib dinner which included salad and baked potato. Hotel Ilulissat is centrally located in town and walking distance to all of the local sites including Disko Bay, cafes and tour operator offices that operate the Icefjord tours, Whale Tours, walking tours and other activities. If visiting Ilulissat, this hotel is an ideal place to stay!

The Hotel Ilulissat is the place to stay in Ilulissat. The rooms are modern yet small but very comfortable and functional. The room temp was perfect and the wifi was more than sufficient. And the shower had sufficient hot water and pressure. But you cannot beat the experience of dining at the rooftop restaurant taking in the magnificent views of the ocean. The scenes and experience seems to change throughout the day depending on the weather. We loved our experience here.

Stayed four nights here, we had amazing experience, view from rooftop bar is super. The room is clean and big enough for us and our 9 year old, there is little gym and small play area fro kids too. Everyone is so welcoming. Plenty of choice for breakfast too.

The hotel looks terrible in the context and architecture doesn't suit the place at all. The restaurant is dysfunctional unfortunately. Ilulissat is an amazing place to go so would just choose one of the other hotels in town which also have much better restaurants.

The hotel is very well located in the city center and proposes a free shuttle from and to the airport. The room was clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities. We can enjoy breakfast (buffet) and dinner at the rooftop where there is a panoramic view of Ilulissat. The staff is very helpful and professional.

This hotel was a pleasure to stay at. The staff were really welcoming and our room was large, stylish and had a spectacular view. We had a beautiful, modern bathroom and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The restaurant on the top floor served great food and the staff were very helpful. It also has a wonderful view over the Icefjord. I'd really recommend this place. Ilulissat is only small, but we were right in the centre, within easy walking distance of shops and the harbour and it was a lovely place to return to after our many freezing cold trips on the Icefjord.

Stayed in a family room. Nice queen bed and two bunk beds that fold into the wall. They had built in wireless chargers in the nightstand and one stopped working and had an annoying beeping sound, had to turn power off to the room (remove key card) to get it to stop. Offered free airport pick up, but while other hotels were waiting for their guests, we had to wait an additional 15 minutes after our bags arrived. Restaurant is a disaster for dinner, dirty dishes on tables for over an hour, messed up my order and when I went to complain some other lady said her entire table was finished yet she didn't even receive her scallops. Expensive, takes forever, awful service, just avoid. Breakfast buffet was generous, but always out of stock. One time it was eggs, the next time pastries, another time fruit - and again took too long to restock. Went out hiking one day and asked for our room to be lightly cleaned (or change the towels) when we were gone. Front desk wrote down our room number and said no problem. Came back six hours later and still not cleaned. Finally two people showed up two hours after we came back. Nice touch having cold water down in the lobby and a small cafe/bar to buy a beer or bottles of soda. Has the makings to be a nice hotel, with a beautiful view from the rooftop restaurant. Service and staffing will cause this place to not succeed.

Modern hotel located in the heart of the town close to the main attractions as well as necessities, such as a supermarket and an ATM bank. Very friendly staff. The food is delicious (the fresh baked bread and the salmon laks were my favorite). However, the staff needs more folks and struggle to deliver food in a timely manner. Lunch and dinner took way to long to come Breakfast was fine since it was buffet. Because of the long wait time, I am giving 4/5 stars but otherwise it's a great place I think.

Nice view of the city Dirty and crowded restaurant, stressed Staff - too bad for them - at the Price of the stay, They should be able to get more Help in the restaurant. Room was just below the restaurant kitchen - very noisy all evening and most of the Night and the Price for that experience was dkr 3300,- per Night

“Viana” staff member in Roof Top bar refused to serve us stating that they are not accepting drink orders because they are “busy” and she would serve us later at 6pm . She was rude and that is unacceptable. Her colleague then told her that of course she can serve us and then she was forced to serve us… Terrible untrained staff member, “Viana” should be trained to a 4 star hotel standard and not to be rude and dismissive to any customers.

The staff is absolutely lovely and go beyond your expectations. The hotel is brand new and very clean. If you want space, book a suit otherwise the rooms aren't very large. The breakfast is absolutely lovely!!! The hotel does free airport shuttle to/from the airport. Only thing I see they could improve is the gym, there were roll-out beds placed in there which was kind of blocking places, and as I do HIIT which requires a lot of space, I would really remove those beds and perhaps put a bench press. Thank you for having us!

Best hotel in Ilulissat! Amazing view from the roof top restaurant and the terrace - you can see all the huge icebergs! The superior rooms up from level 3 have a stunning view too. The superior rooms from where you can overview the whole bay, are much bigger than standard rooms. Cozy beds and a really good bathroom with rain shower. Fantastic buffet for breakfast! Fresh fruits, cereals, cheese, sausages, scrumbled eggs, cakes, desserts etc. Everything was in a perfect condition cause this hotel was new and we were one of the first guests. Absolutely friendly and very helpful stuff and manager! We enjoyed our stay here!!!
