Excellent hotel. We come here with appointments at the Mayo. Breakfast is minimal but we love to eat breakfast across the street. We've been coming here for years. It is Clean, pool is heavenly. Rooms and beds are comfortable. Staff is kind.
We had a great experience...this place is clean (recently remodeled), friendly staff and excellent location, steps from the Fountain. Will definitely stay here again.
Terrific place to stay while in the Phoenix area. We were here for a weekend birthday celebration in Rio Verde and the location of the Fountain Park was perfect. Hotel staff is very kind and knowledgable of the area. The hotel is SUPER clean (which is the #1 requirement for me.). The bed was comfortable and the rooms were appointed well. A lot of the pictures posted here are from when the hotel was a Holiday Inn. The furniture in our room was modern and comfortable with a microwave and a small refrigerator that included a freezer! There was also a Keurig in the room with coffee and tea cups. The air conditioner was a bit loud, but we slept fine after turning it off. We will definitely stay her again. AND, go to Chompie's for breakfast. The pictures of "breakfast" at the hotel are accurate. Cereals, breads, juice, fresh fruit, yogurts and coffee. There are prepackaged sandwiches that you can heat up in the microwave. We enjoyed the park across the street and watched the fountain go off. GREAT coffee shop across the street as well.
Guess it's just not up to level of some services like Hampton Inn. Rooms only serviced if you ask rather than on any schedule. Breakfast is adequate but minimal. For heated food, you have to microwave an egg sandwich. No fresh fruit. Just wasn't at level we're used to. Staff good. Room good.
Beautiful room/clean/updated - view terrific! Not large hotel so easy walk from car to room. Close to best restaurants and park, nice walking path. Continental breakfast very nice with good packaged protein choices in refrigerator. Will come back!
We stayed one night at this location which is in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of parking. Check-in went smoothly and our first floor room had plenty of room for our luggage. The included breakfast in the morning doesn't open until 7 AM, but it had plenty of options including fruit, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, cereal and pastries. The only type of black tea available was Earl Grey so that could be improved, but they had many decaffeinated options.
I have been staying at this site for over ten years. In that time, it has made several ownership changes. My recent visit was very poor. The beds were terrible! The TV service was horrible! Hope BW restores this property to the level it was at when they first took it over.
We checked in on Monday night, room was not pre-inspected. Toilet had overflowed and flooded or wax ring broke and ever time toil flushed wastewater flowed onto floor. Obvious not the first time because wood base board slightly blow out from previous water damage. Desk clerk apologetic and gave us new room. We settled in for the night and that is when the nightmare started. We were on the first floor and the room above us at 1030-11 PM just started marching from side to side until about 1-130 AM. Knowing it a hotel and they can't control everything tried to let it go. At 430 AM it started again; I am a fairly heavy sleeper but loud enough to wake me. My Son and I tried to tolerate this and at 630 had our fill and my son went to the front desk because they would not answer the phone when I called using the phone in the room or my cell phone. My son when to the night desk clerk and the response was you should have come to me at 430 what am I supposed to do about it now. He said, “but we are still trying to sleep. The night clerk also the problem will be remedied they are checking out today. I then approached the day manager after we did get up explained the situation and she did say the night clerk should have handle it differently. But I did not verify they were checking out. With the belief that the problem was resolved we went to bed at about 930-10 and again at about 11-1130 PM the noise and stopping started and continued till about 1-130 and slowly stopped. But at 430 sharp it started, this time taking the night clerk's advice I went directly to her and made my complete say two nights in a row, no sleep, I thought they were leaving. She assured me she would resolve the issue. I went back to my room. In our room we can hear them talk, we would have heard the phone ring; we would have heard the door knock, and we heard nothing other than the noise continue. PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED. So that day I stopped by and spoke with the manager again. This time I was not as friendly, I explained we had the exact same issue. If the guest were to check out the day before like we were told the new ones had the exact same schedule. They were up from 10 PM to about 1-130 AM they were up at about 430. The manager extremely annoyed with me asked what they are supposed to do and I said enforce the quite time and then I requested a new room because I did not want to my last night to go without sleep. The manager said the room above would be checking out and we would no longer have the issue. I said we heard this before, and I honestly do not believe you and still do not believe you. She said we are full, and I have no rooms to change you with. She said I could pack my luggage and leave it at the front desk and if a room came available, they would move me in it. I did not want to take a chance and lose my room. Manager in an angry huff said she will put the room out of service causing her to lose money. I told her I booked three days and got no sleep for two days. She had no response for that. But if the guest above me was checking out, why didn't she give me that room. Lucky enough they did leave because it was quiet the last night. But the next day we got up 7 AM the back lot empty and the side lot was empty no cars so if the hotel was full the guest must have been bused in. You can see in the pictures no cars in the lot. Overall older hotel recently updated nice area but there are plenty of other hotels in are to pick from. Threshold on door to room missing, what looks to be mold in corners in bathroom near shower. Unfortunate my son does water mitigation for over 10 years and no we did not test it but we did take pictures and will post them. Just room clean but not kept overall kept up and staff not overly friend when presented with an issue. I am posting this on Expedia and other travel blogs. I normally don't go this in depth but this was one thing after another after another after another and I believe in giving a business a break and fair but I also believe in getting what I pay for and there are plenty of other nice hotels in the area I would recommend other hotels to stay at. I would check other locations first. I will not return to this location.
BEWARE and STAY AWAY from this hotel. If you want to breathe air, this place IS NOT for you. We had to stay a night in Phoenix for another one of my Dr. appointments and as we walked into this place, it already reeked like cleaning supplies. We got to our hotel room and the whole way up it already smelled heavy and like perfume. The elevator on the way up, was dirty and filthy and looked like it wasn't cleaned in weeks. When we walked into the room I immediately got an asthma attack it smelled so strong. My husband, who doesn't have allergies, immediately said his throat hurts. The guy at the reception switched us rooms, but it literally smelled as bad. And here is the worst part. THE WINDOWS DO NOT OPEN, so you can't even air it out. Needless to say, we had to switch hotels. When contacted about the issue, you would think they would be courteous enough to at least refund you the night for services not rendered as we left before 7pm, explaining why. Or at least offer a partial refund. But NO we are not getting one cent back, even though we couldn't stay the night. If you read some of the negative reviews of this place, please believe them. I didn't and am therefore stuck with $300 on my credit card that I have to pay back somehow.
Location across from the lake is a plus; however, the hotel itself is not the best. There are two "wings" of the hotel. We were put in a room on the South wing near the busy street. This wing has NOT been updated. We didn't have AC even though they promote it. We had a "fan". When we asked the manager, they said that was all they offered in those rooms. And that the fan circulated air from the hallway into the room. This is Phoenix and it was 88 Degrees when we stayed, with the sun beating into our room. We followed other people in cracking our doors open so the hallway AC could flow in, but it didn't help much by late afternoon. As others have mentioned, the refrigerator was extremely noisy when it kicked in, which made it challenging to sleep. And finally, the safe didn't work and when we asked management, they said they'd send someone to fix it. Guess what....no one showed up. That was a vibe of the overall staff - one of indifference. So while it's in a nice location, I would look for another hotel. I think Hilton just bought a hotel down the street and it may be a better option.
Mr/Mrs love4travel42, I am sorry you had a bad experience at our hotel. To explain the location of our hotel a little better, there is 1 main hallway that has rooms facing both the South and North. The other 2 hallways on opposite ends have rooms facing East (some facing the main street) and West. The sun does tend to be warm in the afternoon therefore we have 2 sets of blinds in all of our guest rooms. A sun blocking shade and a light filtering shade to help with keeping your room cooler during those warm days. All of our guest rooms were remodeled at the same time so yes, your room was included in that process. I was the one who spoke with you about the A/C unit. You asked if the A/C unit had another vent in the room. I explained that the wall PTAC units only have air coming from the unit itself, and that includes A/C, not just a fan. You would simply adjust the temperature setting on either the unit itself or the thermostat on the wall (some rooms are different). I never mentioned a fan in the hallway circulating air into the rooms, I don't see how that would be possible. I also explained that the larger suites are equipped with central A/C. Yes, we do live in the desert and couldn't imagine not supplying A/C in all of our guest rooms. I do not know what name your reservation was under so I couldn't look up the work order for the refrigerator and am deeply sorry for the disruptive appliance. We wish you safe travels.
