    « Great situation »

Chose to stay here as it was near Dundee Rep. It is a 3 star Hotel and is very good. Parking at the rear is free to Hotel Residents. The Hotel is very central and easy to find. We had a lovely spacious room on the top floor(there is a lift)with great views over the Tay Bridge. The room was clean and had everything you need including good sized, fluffy bath towels. The breakfast was very good and varied, depending on what you wanted. The staff were friendly and efficient and I would have no hesitation in staying there again.

    « Golden Anniversary Celebration »

Shaun and his staff went over and above for my parents golden wedding anniversary. We had family up from England and they were all well looked after. Rooms were all spacious and clean, Thanks very much guys, made this special event even more memorable for my parents

    « A little bit of a mixed bag »

Have mixed feelings about this hotel as it was a decent enough stay overall but there were one or two cons that detracted from the feel of the place. The room was very spacious and the bed was decent enough (although a slightly softer mattress might has been nice). On the downside, the walls of the room seemed a little thin as I could hear noises from the guests in adjoining room, particularly when they were using their bathroom. The breakfast food was average with the usually offerings of cold options available from a buffet. Hot breakfast food was to order only and you only got to make one order so was very disappointed by this. Would have been much better to have hot food included the buffet. One exceptional positive for this hotel is its location: It is very close to the city centre with the train station and several local attractions within an easy 15min walk. Overall, I'd say it was alright but barely worth the money I paid and I wouldn't necessarily rush back to this hotel if I had other places available.

    « Just ok »

Stayed for 2 nights in room 203. First night was fine. 2nd night was kept awake until about 00:30 by a function downstairs. Loud voices, music and constant banging. Hotel is clean and tidy but lacking in identity. Needs a refurb. Dissapointed as we spent all our clubcard vouchers on this city break.

    « Tired »

Arrived as the Dundee DJ and Dance Festival was on, so Nethergate was chaotic. Got parked ok in the car park behind the hotel (there's lots of space). Our room was on the second floor, so enjoyed walking up the grand staircase....it's beautiful! Our room was a double. Quite spacious and bathroom adequate. Sadly the room bin hadn't been emptied from previous occupant, but we didn't realise this until we got back in late at night. Breakfast was plentiful. With a great range of cereals, continental and cooked food. Not 100% sure of the vegetarian sausages though - maybe try a different type! The hotel is in a great central location for shops, restaurants and bars, but it is a little tired and dated. Not sure if we'll return yet.

    « Absolutely Shocking - Incredibly Noisy »

Just returned from a two day break and felt it necessary to write this review. Although staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful our stay was totally ruined by the noise in the evenings coming from the function suite on the first floor. We were allocated room 209 and on the first evening of our stay (Thursday) we were disturbed late by loud thumping music. We thought this was a one-off so did not complain. However on the Friday night is was even worse with the floor of our room vibrating with the loud live music from the function below . I do not believe that management is unaware of this problem, as they regularly host functions. This room and the adjoining rooms on the second floor should NOT be allocated to guests when there are functions involving live music. I realise that holding functions is part of the hotels revenue but not to the detriment of hotel guests. Stay here at your peril !

    « adequate »

It's definitely a two-star hotel, but has the potential to be much more. It's clear the rooms haven't been updated in a long time. The bed is uncomfortable, the tv is miniscule, and the furnishings dated and well-used. The bathroom needs a definite overall and has clearly seen better days. There's no individual control of the room temperature, the mirrors are hung too low, and the bathroom mirror is basically a foggy piece of metal. That said, the cleaning staff and others here have been nice, the water pressure is great, its in the best location, and my room was at the front and has been dead quiet. The place has good bones and is a lovely building, my hope is that a bit of a refurb could go a long way to make the place really great and with the development happening in the town it will need to catch up to compete. I'm used to staying in nicer places, and really the telly situation gave us a good laugh, but I'd happily stay here again in future if it had a bit of an update. It's not perfect, but its definitely not horrible if the price suits you.

    « Excellent staff »

I attended a wedding st this hotel and before arriving and after reading the reviews on here I wasn't sure what to expect. This hotel is not a modern hotel and is not advertised as such so I didn't go here expecting mod cons etc. Having said that though this hotel provides des you with everything you need for a hotel stay. Clean rooms which are reasonably priced, a bar again which is reasonably priced and a good breakfast service. The best thing about this hotel is the staff!! Such excellent caring service and they were all helpful and couldn't do enough for you. In particular for myself I found the staff extremely accommodating with regards to my dietary needs. I wouldn't have chosen to stay here but having stayed here and after the service I have received I would definitely return if ever in Dundee. The location is very central and the car park is easy to use and locate and mobility friendly

    « Absolutely shocking »

The rooms are beyond basic!! I was put in a top floor room which was blatantly never used. The net curtains were mouldy due to the damp in the room. The bed was really uncomfortable, couldn't get a strong enough WiFi signal to even use it. Tv was tiny and couldn't see it hardly from the bed, bathroom was dirty with mould around the tiles and silicone. The breakfast was awful, the sausages were purple believe it or not! Where these were bought from I do not know. Service is poor and they do not make you feel welcome. As you've probably guessed I would not recommend this hole of a hotel.

« Nothing like the website »

I stayed here recently while traveling for business with the university. The location was perfect - close to the train station, university, and shops/restaurants. The hot breakfast in the morning was a good start to the day. Despite that, this place is a bit of a dump. It's outdated and needs a total refurbishment. The bed was really hard with springs pushing through - not a good sleep at all. The room was also incredibly and uncomfortably hot, even after turning the furnace off, and my window didn't open to let any fresh air in. The bathroom wasn't very clean and had black mold all over the shower grouting. The hairdryer that was provided was covered in some sort of gummy, dirty stuff of unknown origin. The website makes the rooms look really nice and modern, but that just wasn't the case in reality. Altogether, survivable if you're on a budget and only have a short stay, but I'd recommend looking somewhere else.

« Nice hotel with friendly staff »

Stayed for just one night on a Travelzoo deal. Having read some of the very negative reviews I was not sure what to expect, but generally we were pleasantly surprised. We found the hotel clean and well eqipped with tea and coffee making facilites, and we certainly did not recognise some of the poor comments from other reviewers. We did have two gripes, the large double bed which was two put together was very uncomfortable, hard and lumpy with a distinct ridge down the centre. Also the net curtain was dingy and had holes. We were told that replacing mattresses is planned, for that room, 206, it cannot come fast enough. We had dinner, served in the bar and not in the dining room, it took a while to arrive but was well worth the wait, very good food, piping hot and large portions. I struggled to finish my steak pie and my partners prawn cocktail had more prawns than I have ever seen! Breakfast was in the dining room, served by two very pleasant young ladies and again was good. The hotels location is excellent, very central for shops and for Discovery, but all in all Dundee was a disapointment. All of the hotels staff were very pleasant, and bed and breakfast, evening meal and a botttle of wine for £79 was remarkably good value.

    « Worst Western »

Very tired hotel. Needs a complete updating. Carpet and drapes old and dirty. Needs paint , wallpaper, new furniture. Halls are old and dirty, bad lighting, bad elevator, bad lobby. Dirty from the entrance to the room. This facility is not run well .

Thanks to Sean for helping make this a great day for us all. Well organised and very helpful and went over and above and listened to all requests. Food was lovely. Staff were helpful. Q bar has a nice atmosphere at reasonable prices.

« Lovely hotel and friendly staff »

Stayed here as we were going to a gig nearby. Hotel was lovely and staff at reception were great. However, was woken by the fire alarm at 2:35am. Went downstairs with one other from across the hall to find all the doors shut and no staff about to tell us what to do or where to go. The alarm eventually went off but still no staff about the hotel to explain anything.

This should be 'Worst Western', what a soulless cheerless place, spend some money and upgrade to the rest of Dundee. No morning call which I requested, bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever witnessed. They boast Winston Churchill stayed there, Dundee women heckled him and threw him out of Dundee, he sent troops against the Scots and the Irish and was responsible for the starvation of millions of Indians, get rid of this nonsense.

    « Very Disappointed »

I've stayed at this hotel before and generally had a good experience. This time not so much. The staff were friendly and very helpful but a number of factors impacted the enjoyment of my stay. The door was a total nuisance, incredibly difficult to close properly. There were a couple of occasions where it seemed closed but on returning to my room I could open it without my key. This obviously made me concerned about my belongings. I had to pull hard and test until it worked every time I left my room to be sure. The electrics were also not fabulous. Again, the dtaff were great about helping me resolbe thos issue but I couldn'tuse most of the plugs in the room without tripping the electrics. It's not great when I need to unplug the kettle to charge my phone. Worst of all though was the window. There was a distinct gap between the two panes and given the bitterly cold weather and heavy wind, there was an unpleasant draft of which the heater couldn't counter. To get a decent night's sleep I actually had to plug the gap with several pairs of socks. While I have had good experiences staying here in the past, I'm not sure I would want to stay here again, certainly not in the colder months.

    « A pleasure »

Stopped by late afternoon, at Reception we were greeted by Leah who was very welcoming and accommodating. Walked us through to the bar kindly showing us where everything was. All staff were smartly dressed And there was a great atmosphere, definetly be back.

« Third time staying here and this hotel is a like a fine wine gets better with age. »

What can I say about this hotel, well it's one of, if not the oldest hotel in Dundee. However this is not a down point at all. You are literally staying in history the hotel is full of charm and the atmosphere is relaxed and beautiful. The building is full of character and charm which comes with History. My favourite feature of the Hotel is the letter from hero Winston Churchill who stayed at this hotel and was so impressed he wrote a letter thanking them which is proudly on display in the hall way. The rooms are warm, with beautiful High ceilings, large comfy beds, clean and very functioning Bathrooms and free WiFi. There is a Car Park which is free for residents and in Dundee this a big a deal as there very few or no other hotels with free car parking! The hotel is basically in the City centre and is not more than a five Minuet walk from the actual city Centre! The Staff are very friendly and always go above and beyond the call duty to make your stay everything you could wish for and more. The food is out of this world and I would also recommend Clarke's Bakery which is opposite the Hotel the food here is beyond belief and is truly magical they do a selection of hot food and cakes :) love it here and the coffee is the best I have ever had. Dundee is a beautiful amazing City, and one of the best things about Dundee it's not too touristy so every other shop is not a whisky shop. It's real, beautiful and I would recommend the Queens hotel and this beautiful City without hesitation! If you miss Dundee on your visit to Scotland you have truly missed out.

    « Ugh »

Extremely disappointed-tea cups in room just rinsed out with water-residue still to be seen from usage of previous guest. Toilet base not cleaned. Room tiny. Stayed here a few times because the location is excellent but will have reservations about staying here again. Breakfast was the only good thing from this experience.

    « Very disappointing »

Our room looked nothing like the website pictures Room was so small we struggled to walk at the side of the bed Wallpaper ripped awful brown net curtains The bathroom smelt with huge lumps of grout showing Hotel itself is tired and old desperately needs updating Won't stay again made a huge mistake trying somewhere different back to doubletree Hilton for us

    « Welcoming and warm »

Recently had a date night with my husband out in Dundee and decided to make the most of the grandparent babysitters. Chose to stay overnight at the queens hotel. The reception staff were very friendly and courteous and the manager, Leah, remembered us from our wedding which we had at the queens 10 years ago. Leah was as always friendly and welcoming and I thought it was lovely that she remembered us, we will definitely be back next time we are up this way. Might not have had the honeymoon suite this time but the room we had was gorgeous very dramatic and stylish. After one too many gins served up by the entertaining bar staff, oh how we had a giggle that night, it was great to soak up the alcohol with a full cooked breakfast to die for yum. Most enjoyable and memorable stay where you are guaranteed to be looked after by leah and her staff, hope to see you again soon

    « Competition »

Won a night free via Facebook competition & not disappointed. Lovely large room with a bathroom that looked quite new. Friendly staff during our stay & a very good selection at breakfast. Also as we stay in Dundee didn't have to travel far which a nice change.

We had a wonderful 3 days at Queens. Great comfy beds and pillows. Breakfast plentiful and tasty. Leah the lady in charge was great , we had a birthday and she surprised us with a delicious birthday cake Thanks Leah for going the extra mile .

« nice hotel and staff »

very nice hotel my wife booked this for a valentines treat. very nice hotel very central. it is an old building with great architecture, staff very friendly and helpful, we got a room with a bath and shower over bath, however i have limited mobility and cant climb over the bath, one quick call to reception we were moved, thank you. breakfast was great

« nice but could do better »

second time stayed here, and again same issue. doors in rooms and corridors bang shut every time, difficult to sleep, its 2018, put dampers on doors to slow them down, especially when there are functions on and people moving about at all hours. disappointed sat night as we were planning to eat in the bar, but because there was a function on in another part of hotel, guests were using the bar area, staff numbers not able to cope. walked out as no one to take our order. dined elsewhere. other than that, staff are nice, breakfast is well organised and nice, but please cater better when busy.

    « Good value »

This hotel is very good value for the price. We paid £60 for a Friday night. The hotel was very clean and check in and out very efficient. It is convenient for the city centre and university. A previous review mentioned a shortage of towels, this was not a problem for us as there were2 sets of towels. The only issue for me was that the code for the car park was changed @ 4:30. This meant I had to go back to reception to get the correct code. A minor inconvenience but unnecessary. Could have been worse if there had been a queue .

    3
    « Drinks »

Having a family and friends get together for a 50th we had booked an alcove upon arrival no reserved alcove ... they quickly gave us another area free wine and crisps until our area was available ... the staff were excellent remembering our drink order so after a shaky start we had a great night.

    4
« Good Location for city center »

Nice hotel, clean and helpful staff. Getting a little rundown. Fantastic breakfast. Free parking at rear of the hotel. The price is very good for Dundee. You will not be sorry for staying here. Enjoy your stay and visit too Dundee

    3
« Nice but run down »

Great location, great breakfast and a very nice traditional bar. The rooms are another story.... very run down shabby carpets and poor fitting doors and windows. It's best described as stuck in the 70's. Don't get me wrong the staff are very nice but he hotel is well over due a make over

    3
    « Passable »

Decent price and you can save points towards a free night. Smokie and eggs for breakfast is good and the position of the hotel is handy for shops, restaurants and bars. This is an old hotel that I think would benefit from a good overhaul. Mattress could be better as I could feel the springs when in bed. The window was just a single pane so you can hear everything outside. I will stay again but I will opt for a rear bedroom as they have double glazing.

    5
« Great place to stay, near city centre »

I love the Queens Hotel this will be our 4th stay, great for a mini break, we managed to get our xmas shopping within easy walking distance. Lovely full breakfast, with loads to choose from. Evening meal very reasonably priced and delicious.

    4
    « Cosy, nice views. »

Booked at short notice and it was a nice surprise. Spotlessly clean and a warm retreat from cold November weather. Very well situated too. Only criticisms are that it feels a bit dated (could do with a refurb) and there was only one bath towel for 2 people in a double room. Otherwise, friendly and helpful staff and good car parking availability. Would go back.

    4
    « Very satisfactory stay »

One of the older established hotels in Dundee (Winston Churchill and Frank Sinatra have both stayed there in the past) this should not be overlooked. Full of character, very clean and comfortable, it is ideally situated for the city centre and university. I did not sample the dining as there are many excellent resturants I like close by. 2 minor niggles are the appallingly slow lift and no power points in the spacious bar for working on a computer although there is good WiFi

    4
    « Real character »

My second stay here and it's a place of real character. The location could not be better - close to the university and the eateries of Nethergate, a great record shop, the Discovery museum (excellent) and the railway station. The exterior is a riot of Victorian gothic cupolas and a plaque proclaims that Winston Churchill stayed here. I can't understand why people would choose to stay at Premier Inns or Travelodges when this is scarcely any more expensive.

    4
    « One night stay »

Popped up to Dundee to see the Illegal Eagles and booked the Queens because of its location to the city centre which is excellent. I thought the hotel staff were exceptional they couldn't do enough for you, the night porter who had to man the door and serve in the guest bar done a great job we kept him very busy. The room was a bit dated but very clean as was the bathroom, the bed was comfortable and the view from the window was spectacular. The only minus I could give the hotel which is not really a game changer was the choice of net curtains in the rooms they were antique gold but the looked really grubby although they were spotless. Enjoyed my breakfast, good choice. Would stay here again

    « A lovely stay! »

The hotel is well situated in the centre of Dundee with a big parking behind the hotel for our rented car. The rooms were nice and very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful to guide us around Dundee.

    4
    « Great Location »

The hotel was at the beginning of Nethergate street, with easy access to the riverfront and the discovery, the restaurants ad bars in the student quarter and the town centre. The large car park was well laid out and secure. Staff were efficient and helpful. The room was well appointed with a large bed. The shower was hot ad powerful.. Its not modern but all working and pleasant. The breakfast was filling. The bar was well stocked. Reasonable prices as well. There were large weddings whilst we were there, but we didn't hear any nose - so well sound proofed. We'll stay again the next time we come to Dundee.

    « Weeding day »

I just wanted to take a moment to say a huge Thank You to Sean Auchterlonie - Duty Manager for his help with our wedding in Queen's Hotel, Dundee. He made us feel so welcome. All team were so friendly. Sean clearly know what he's doing and he made our day run smoothly and did everything we asked and even more. All the guests commented how lovely day was and how good the service was. The food was amazing and everyone loved the taste and presentation made to perfection. Our wedding day was truly magical. Thanks to All the hard work and support given to us by all the staff. Highly recommended. Love Petya and Matt xx

    « Dandy Dundee »

5 weeks for work. Always try and book here as excellent location and free car parking. Given the age of the old girl she has been well maintained. I have stayed in loads of different rooms and the consistency is there for comfy beds and clean bathrooms. Quietest sleeps are at the back of the hotel as the front faces the very busy Perth Road. The steak pie is my favourite meal with melting meat and sumptuous gravy!! Big thanks to all the staff, especially Sean and the Q bar team who kept me well fed and watered through-out my stay :)

    3
« Perfect location for Dundee attractions »

We stayed 2 nights at the Queen's hotel. It is perfectly placed to walk to the main local attractions - Discovery Point, Verdant Jute Museum, shopping and restaurants. The staff are very friendly, breakfast excellent and well priced, the bar well stocked and had some promotions and parking is free on-site. The bed was a little uncomfortable but okay for 2 nights.

    4
    « Suited our needs »

Don't be put off by the dated decor as you walk up from the (secure) car park. The welcome is genuinely warm from everyone on Reception. The bedroom was clean and crisp (but it didn't need the brown net curtains at the window screening the beautiful views of the silvery Tay, so we tucked them back; the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was ample & staff friendly (that Queens welcome again); good choice of food (excellent black pudding) but the urn coffee was a major disappointment: DIY instant would taste better. The location was ideal for us, attending a university reunion. Happy to recommend (but take a bedroom coffee sachet down for breakfast!)

« Very Impressive for an ideal stay »

I was stopping in Dundee on my way from Edinburgh to Aberdeen for a business trip as I figured it was about half way and went with Queens Hotel because of the positive reviews and great location. The signposts weren't the greatest to the onsite parking but the car park had a security barrier coded and the lift right by the back entrance made carrying bags easier. Very straightforward check in and directions of where my room was located. I was traveling alone but received a family room which consisted of a big double bed and also a single. The room had high ceilings and big windows which all looked very grand. The hotel is located a short walk from where there are many restaurants and bars and the map information in the lobby was useful to guide myself about Dundee. Breakfast in the morning consisted of a selection of cereals and fruit, as well as the option to order from a selection of hot food which was very tasty. Overall I would say that this hotel was incredible value for money.

    3
    « Fairly nice hotel »

Piece of history. There is a plaque at the entrance with a handwritten letter from sir Winston Churchill commenting on his breakfast at the hotel in 1909. The place is now under the ownership of best western. Lodging is ok, ditto for breakfast. I preferred a different place for dinner. Floor boards creaked a lot! All in all, very helpful and courteous staff. I'll certainly consider staying again.

    4
« Close to city centre, clean and with free parking »

I stayed just for one night in a double room which was fine for me on my own, perhaps a touch cosy for two maybe. The bed was comfortable though, the wifi worked well and the shower was hot and powerful. My room overlooked the railway station (sort of) but was quiet. The restaurant food was nothing special, pub fare, and the breakfast was also decent. The hotel car park is around the back and a code is needed to get out. The hotel is also quite close to the main shopping area of Dundee. I would be happy to stay here again.

    « Weekend wedding event »

Great location for the shopping centre with some great local shops nearby. Hotel was clean and rooms large. Breakfast was good with a fab supply of breakfast items. The Glamis suite was lovely for the wedding with a nearby room for the wedding breakfast. I noted that the windows were pristine! Us Brits loved the piper playing outside before the wedding. All round a great stay.

    « Nice central hotel »

My daughter and I booked in for the night whilst visiting family. Room 308 was a lovely well appointed twin room with everything we could need for the night. Dinner in the bar was delicious, homemade steak pie, reasonably priced too. The barmaid on duty on 16th September was very friendly and attentive. It became apparent there was a large wedding on, but our room was to the front of the hotel, the wedding reception to the back, so we thought nothing to worry about. How wrong were we!!! The wedding ended around 1am, and we heard street noise which woke us, however this was nothing in comparison to what was to come. The room next to us turned out to be the honeymoon suite in which the wedding after party commenced. At 2.30am my daughter called reception to be told the groom had been contacted and asked to keep the noise down. This resulted in two men outside our door shouting about the moaning woman in room 308 complaining and who did she think she was as she had only probably spent £80 for a room and he had spent a lot more. Eventually after 3.30am we managed to get some sleep. We went down to breakfast at 9am and when asked our room number the manager immediately apologised for our disturbed night. Our breakfast was lovely with everything you could ask for being available. On returning to our room management had left us a bottle of prosecco and a compliment slip again apologising for our disturbed sleep. Will we return? Yes, management and staff at The Queens are exceptional, the hotel is lovely and central and apart from avoiding room 308 in future we will happily return.

    « Business Trip »

Good service, clean and friendly atmosphere, nice bar and great breakfast. Location was perfect for bars and restaurants within easy walking distance and they needed to be as we checked in at 8.45pm and they had stopped serving food in the restaurant. The bar stays open though and it was used.

    « Tired but fine »

I stayed at the Queens for convenience & value for money with no other expectations. And so it was fine. It needs a bit of TLC and modernisation in terms of decor but if you need a comfy bed for the night in the centre of town with a decent breakfast at a reasonable price, it's just right.

Lovely old fashioned hotel with a staircase to die for. On arrival young laddie at reception couldn't have made you more welcome. Room was perfect for our overnight stay. Clean, plenty of tea, sugar milk etc. Iron and Iron board as well. Bed one of the comfiest I've slept in for a while.

« Room was tired - almost as tired as the mattress »

The room we originally booked was given to someone else - and we stayed in a very tired room with a more than tired mattress - quite disappointing for a Best Western Hotel, as that was one of the reasons we stayed there - as we thought that being a best Western it could guarantee a certain standard , Told the hotel was fully booked and nothing could be done, At breakfast - it was obvious that Queens was more of a commercial hotel for tradesman than a tourist hotel. One plus point - close location to city centre.

« Great vfm stay in Dundee »

Beautiful building in the city centre of Dundee. On arrival I was warmly welcomed. Room is good valuefor money. Bed was comfortable. Staff was really helpfull when asked for directions. Second night of my stay there was a wedding party. Although a bit noisy, I had a lot of fun talking to some attendees. Overall a great stay

    « Lovely hotel »

The hotel rooms are lovely and clean and confortable with plenty of space to put you clothes. We stayed 3 nights and had clean towels put in our room while we were there. The staff are really nice and are really helpful with anything you need and are willing to have a conversation with you. At breakfast there is a really big selection to choose from like cereal, toast, yoghurt, fruit salad, fruit, crosonts and cooked breakfast which tasted really nice and served with hot or cold drinks. Modern hotel in a traditional Dundee building. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the main shops. It has free wifi and free guest parking. The only bad thing if anything is the windows 1 opened really wide so had to watch my daughter didnt go to close to it when we had it open and 1 only opened a tiny bit and the floors are a bit creaky but you dont notice after a while. Even had a kettle and tea and coffee resources in the rooms which were stocked up during our stay. Really nice place to stay.

« Little disappointed this time..... »

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the Queens as was visiting friends but i was very disappointed this time I stayed my room was small, the bed was un-comfy and the shower let out hardly any water in the morning. I know the hotel needs redecorated but I like the old hotel feel and its a great location but things are starting to slip and for the price I paid for my 1 night stay I expect better. Not sure if i will stay again now as I know other hotels in the area are nicer and can be gotten at an ok price if booked in advance.

« Nice and clean would return »

Stayed here whilst working in the area, hotel was nice and clean, food was nice from the bar area, room was fairy good nothing special nice and basic, bathroom was nice and clean. The tv in the room was pretty small which I think shouldn't be a problem anymore with the low cost of a new one just was difficult to watch it whilst laying in the bed. All in all I would return and would recommend it.

« Should have known better! »

I needed an overnight stay in Dundee and used a well know booking site. Queens hotel came out best offer and nearest to my business needs. On arrival - DISMAL entrance with arrows pointing to all the appropriate points including reception. I was expecting basil fawlty. I gave my name at reception and I as immediately addressed by my Christian name. I am a senior member of the medical profession used to being addressed as Doctor and to have a youngster behind the d so to suddenly announce hi Bryan was a great insult. I was given a room card and told my room was on 3 rd floor. No directions given. Once found through a myriad of corridors I found my room. Wish I had gone to travel lodge. The last time I had a bed of this quality was in an army camp in Africa! If you are staying in Dundee, there are numerous better establishments

    « I enjoyed my stay. »

The outside of the hotel is absolutely stunning - and the inside despite it being old fashioned very impressive. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice - I had a lovely view over Dundee. Comfortable bed! I'd say that the room was tidy but not every corner has been checked as there was an empty plastic bottle underneath my bed and a big bushel of hair in the corner. The bathroom was nice - everything's been checked and towels and cups have been renewed during my stay. I'm probably just being picky but the shower was definitely too small. I chose to have breakfast on the very first morning which maybe wasn't a good decision to make. I just did not enjoy it. That is probably the only let down. I had the full English and don't think that it's worth the approx £8. Other than that I will definitely come back and would recommend it to everyone who's wanting to visit Dundee and needs a place to stay.

    « Very tired Hotel »

Stayed overnight after a wedding reception. The room was ?old' would be the best way to describe it. The beige net curtains wafted gently in the breeze, even though the dirty single glazed windows were closed. The bed was hard and gravitated towards the middle and everything worked in the bathroom. Tea and coffee facilities were fine and the Shortbread fingers were nice. .Let's just say the room was very tired and could do with a refurb. but everything was clean, even the old yellowed telephone. We had a meal in the Bar mid-afternoon, and the Burger was nice, but the chips were dry and the pastry on the steak pie was not very good. Price wise it was ok although If you try to pay with a Credit/Debit card in the Bar you have to be taken to the Reception as the Bar does not have a card machine. Slightly annoying. The wedding venue and buffet were perfect and everyone had a great time. Now the grumpy bit. One particular overzealous member of the bar-staff was clearing away glasses that were full, half full and even from in front of people that had just put a full glass in front of them. A trip to the bar to get a replacement was met with ?the bar has just closed'. That is fair enough, but removing drinks from tables, when people were still drinking them, was not on. As we were residents, a night porter opened the residents bar for us and some other guests from another wedding and informed us that the bar was open ?only at his discretion' so we only had two drinks and retired to bed. I must point out that no one in our party was drunk. The lift was very slow and creaky with no working light which made it a bit weird standing in the dark as we rumbled our way up. The free car park is a plus in the city centre. The hotel could be better with an upgrade, but the staff were nice (even the drink lifter.)

    3
« Not too bad and handy location. »

Hotel is a bit faded and could do with a spruce up. Windows are single glazed so a bit noisy. The room was small but clean and tidy although the mattress was saggy and could do with replacing. Staff were very friendly. There were 2 weddings on when we were there so it was a bit noisy with folk shouting in the corridors and banging doors until late. If you can, get a room on the 34r or 4th floor as you are further from all the street noise and the function rooms.

    2
    « Needs a refresh quick »

This may be the worst hotel I've encountered in a while. I could feel every single spring on the bed. Our king was two twins pushed together but my side had a distinct slant to it. There were hairs on the sheets and very long hairs in the tub. The drain to the shower didn't drain quit right and the bathroom has a pretty pungent mildew smell coming from it. There was a "nail pen" on the floor when we arrived and some other small bits of trash from a previous guest. There's also what appears to be maybe dog hair in the corners of the restroom. The overall cleanliness and comfort of this room is horrible. Two things going for it-the room is spacious and the staff was quite friendly at reception when we checked in.

    3
« Lovely staff. Hotel a little tired . Could be doing with a nice lounge area just to have a drink. »

A sitting area away from customer having food is needed . Terrible noise from functions in hotel , that I feel should have been brought to our attention on check . Terrible noise outside . Windows needing cleaned and damp marks all over the curtains . Although room was clean as was shower . The room was very small . What I stay again . Probably not over priced stay in the best western invercase instead much much nicer.

« Fine enough and charming, but a bit tired »

The room was very small, but at least it got a good breeze from outside so it didn't get too hot. The bed was small but comfortable enough. Small bathroom with somewhat poor amenities but it did the job. Great location. WiFi worked well and the free parking was appreciated. The breakfast was very tasty! The hotel has a certain charm to it given its history and style, but I do think it is quite tired and could use a sprucing up. For what it is what you got, I think it was overpriced.

    4
« Lovely old, but a little tired Hotel in the grand style »

The staff were delightful throughout - reception, room and restaurant. Tired but nice clean room comfy bed after a change of room. Good breakfast. good value. recommended! The hotel is ideally located on the edge of the City centre, attractions, close to the University and station.

« Better than Churchill thought »

There is a letter in the foyer that Winston Churchill wrote home to his wife in 1909 complaining about the quality of the hotel and that he found a caterpillar in his salad. Happily the hotel has been modernised since then but it still has the old creaky-floorboard feel of a hotel that was built over 100 years ago (1878 to be exact). We spent two days there; our room was not large but it was very comfortable and had been recently refurbished. The bathroom appeared also newly tiled with a good sized shower (A small irritant was that there was no soap or shampoo, only a dispenser from which minuscule amounts of soapy liquid was dispensed). Breakfast was fairly standard, a self service with a reasonable array of choices. The location is very good, right in the middle of Dundee, beside the University, with many restaurants within easy walking distance. We enjoyed our time in Dundee and I would stay there again, but unlike Winston's experience, it was nothing to write home about.

    3
    « A little tired looking »

The hotel has everything a 3 star hotel needs to offer but it is looking a little tired e.g. the rad in our bathroom was rusting. There are also no plugs near the headboards. Breakfast was fine but one cannot self-serve due to 'health and safety issues' meaning they vessels are too hot - but i think they should address this. When a chef brought out poached eggs to the dining room he warned the waiter that the plate was scalding hot!!! Then don't have everything so hot in the first place. The hotel offers free parking which is great.

    « Everything you need »

I stayed one night while in Dundee for a conference. The room was pleasant, clean, and had everything I needed. The breakfast was very good and served by a lovely friendly waiter. There was some confusion about the price of the room when I checked in. I'm not sure where the error lay, but if you've booked through a third party like booking.com it's probably wise to have your confirmation to hand. Overall, I was very happy with this hotel for the price I paid, and would stay again.

    « Good Location »

When you ride into the train station and look up and to the left, you will see the sign on the Queens Hotel. You just head in that direction, less than a 10 minute walk. The hotel is around 10-15 minutes from the bus station thru the city center. The hotel is an older building, or you could say a building with character. The hotel is quiet. The double room is small, has a double bed with a sagging mattress, desk, closet, iron and board, tea and coffee, and good wi-fi,. The bathroom is clean with a bathtub shower, liquid soap, and a hair dryer. Breakfast was good with the usual Scottish breakfast including eggs, bacon, sausage, potato, tomato, mushrooms, beans, and haggis, along with cereals, breads, yogurt, and fruit.

    5
    « Continues to impress »

I stayed on Friday 9 June along with my brother, whilst attending a Dinner & Prize-giving at the Queens Hotel. My stay was excellent from the outset with warm welcome on arrival, clean room, very good dinner, excellent comfortable bed and a very filling breakfast. The owner and his team of staff were all extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The car park is a real bonus too, as is the lift. Hope to be back again and would highly recommend the Queens Hotel to anyone looking to be in a central location in Dundee.

« Time to be made over. »

This hotel had everything you should expect but despite this, felt very old and out of date. Beautiful exterior let down by old fashioned everything. Place was undeniably clean and breakfast was ok but I really would rather have table service or self service, not self serve everything but have to queue to be doled out my hot breakfast items one by one whilst having to ask what's in every covered dish. Staff were fine but the hotel reminded me of a 1970s boarding house, not a modern hotel. Prime location and beautiful views over the river from some rooms, but drastically needs completely refurbished. The price charged for the room sadly didn't reflect all of that. The plaque on the wall announcing Winston Churchill was a regular guest 100 years ago hints at what it was, not what it is today.

« Good value central hotel »

We spent four nights in this old hotel and found it to be very acceptable and good value. Although old the hotel was nicely decorated and kept in a very clean and tidy condition. We stayed on a half board basis and found the meals to be excellent, the staff were very helpful and friendly which made our visit all the more pleasurable. There is a lift available to all floors.

    3
    « Ok »

Very tired dated hotel and not the cleanest either, my husband got a pint of lager which smelled like rotten eggs, the waitress agreed that it smelled so offered a different type of lager and that was the same, there was a tribute night and a party which went on quite late and was really loud which we weren't aware of at the time of booking, breakfast was ok but had I seen how dirty the dining room was I don't think I'd have eating anything, staff were pleasant though

    4
« Good for an overnight stay »

We were going to the Bowie experience and wanted somewhere close to the Caird hall. I lived in Dundee for 3 years so already knew this hotel as I walked by it most days and about their free parking which is very rare in Dundee. The hotel is tired in some places but it is an old lady and bedrooms are very large. They were very clean and linen and towels were also clean. Their is tea and coffee and small packs of shortbread in the room. the staff are frendly and helpful. However when we arrived back at the hotel there was a tribute noght going on in one of the function rooms and did not end until midnight. It was noisy and it was disapointing we were not warned about this. Our room was on the second floor and looked onto Perth road, which we don`t mind hearing the hustle and bustle of this busy street ( its almost across the road from the Uni ) I did not have breakfast but if needed I would stay again but maybe not on a weekend

« Possible end of an era »

I heard that this hotel is under offer so no-one knows what will happen. It's certainly looking very "tired" and it looks like it is a lot of work to keep it functioning. I know that the manager seems to work non-stop but it's an old hotel with lots of things needing fixed. The floorboards creak and there's just an atmosphere of giving up. It's a shame as it's been a good workhorse for years. The bath tap in my first room did not work and I had to change rooms. My bed was soft in the middle and when I arrived at the start of a heatwave the heating was still on. Breakfast was OK - not as much choice as there has been in the past, but dishes were replenished quickly. All the staff could not have been more helpful as there were a few issues. At one point the lift stopped working but a lift engineer came within minutes to fix it. Their car park is very busy and it was difficult to find a space as it is used (or misused) by non-residents.

« It's ok, could be better could be worse. »

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. Both times have been for work. So let's start with the pros. There is a small free car park for guests to use. Parking in and around Dundee is expensive and a hotel with a free car park for guest seems to be rare. The hotel is old but the rooms are clean and quiet large. I slept well on the both times stayed. The bathrooms seemed to have been updated and again are very large so all good there. Breakfast was delicious, the black pudding is the best I have ever tasted. The food was fresh and was cooked very well. So now for cons! The car park that hotel has not exclusively for the guest of the hotel and is open to the public to use. The Car park is in demand as it £5.00 per visit which is the cheapest in Dundee however it is not very big so fills up quickly. When I arrived it was full and even though The company had paid for my stay in full I still had to park in a very expensive car park down the road. There is no food after 9pm from what I can tell my first night I worked late and as I could not park my car I decided to work later than normal. So I got back after 9pm and asked if there was food. I was told the kitchen was closed but they could do me sandwiched or soup. I declined as needed something more feeling. Breakfast finishes at 9:30am however I would say make sure you are there for 9:00am as I arrived just after 9:15am and at one point the chef and other staff where sitting eating. I felt a little awkward as felt as if I was disturbing them. They pack up quick and you do feel as if you are in the way.

« At least the breakfast was great »

Stayed for two night the room was a nice size so was the bed, but the bed really hard, and I'm use to a soft bed so wasn't that comfortable, the floor boards were sqeeky too. So had to watch my step. The shower was lovely and hot. The only issues I had was when the fire alarm went off when I was trying to sleep and had to run down four flights of stairs. And the walls are thin could hear everything happening in the room next to mine I was in 402. But lovely complimentry short bread and I have to say best western does it again with there breakfast it was so good. The cooked breakfast was lovely and a great selection of continental. Worth the price.

« Ideal Location for a City Visit or Touring Base »

Right at the heart on Dundee with everything you need on site including ample free parking. A bar serving reasonably priced and generous bar meals in comfortable surroundings and there is a wide range of items on the breakfast menu, hot and cold also in generous portions. Room (311) comfortable and quite adequate, free Wi-Fi, TV and information. Conference and meeting rooms are also available on site. Staff could not have been more helpful and I had a pleasant enjoyable 3 night stay. It is an old building, a little tired in place and some quite creaky floorboards bit no real issues at all. Everything needed can be found on the door step as there bars, restaurants of many international styles, Indian, Turkish, Sushi etc. and also cafes and fast food right by the hotel. A very short walk toward the centre there is the Overgate shopping centre and a little further the Wellgate Centre, in the other direction on to the Perth Road within a steady 12 minute walk (I timed it) there are Italian, French, Indian and several other restaurants and bars. The rail station is easy walking distance but possibly a little difficult (but not impossible) if you have luggage but there is a taxi rank. You can see the Hotel from the Station, look to the left as you leave. There is a taxi rank outside. The rail line links from Edinburgh to Inverness and all stop in-between and services are regular.

« Good location and nice room »

As a Best Western Rewards member we were automatically upgraded to a Superior Room with great views across the city and harbour. It was excellent value, although the room was booked well in advance to get best deal. The hotel has a good central location near the station and city centre. The breakfast was good, but would have been better if fresh tea was served in a teapot rather than from an urn.The cooked selection was freshly cooked and had good portions. It would also have been good to have fresh porridge rather instant. The staff were very helpful and friendly

« Typical Best Western Scottish Hotel. Not sure of which era it wants to be in!! »

Hotel is booked annually for judges of the cat show Foyer very impressive, staff friendly, room 306 stuck somewhere between 1970 with furniture and carpets but the bathroom very modern with a fantastic shower. Room very clean, lots of electrical sockets. Only let down far too warm. Heating was on in may. Turned it off but when returned to the room it was still warm. Opened the sash window briefly but as the room was to the side it was very noisy on a Friday evening Breakfast fine ( well. Bacon a tad anaemic) food in bar a bit pricy

« Weekend in Dundee with friends »

We stayed in this hotel over the Easter weekend, when we visited Dundee (for the first & last time) with our friends. We stayed in one of basement rooms and it definitely was not up to the standard we expected. Even the staff admitted the rooms were dated! As for the "antique gold " curtains, they were more of a dirty grey colour with rips in them and the longer heavy curtains were not even big enough for the windows. The only good thing I can say is that the staff in the hotel bar could not have been more helpful, one lady in particular organised a meal for my particular dietary requirements. When we checked out we mentioned about our disappointment with the hotel and we were told we could have been moved to a different room had we said something sooner. I find this hard to believe because when we booked in we were told the hotel was fully booked all weekend. Someone needs to get their facts right!.

« Dundee City Of Discovery Scotland »

When we arrived we were greeted with a warm and friendly greeting by all the staff. This hotel is very well situated about a 10min walk from the rail station and also Captain Cook ship and visitor centre well worth a visit it is also about a 5min walk from Dundee town centre it also has its own car park at the rear of the hotel. Winston Churchill stayed on a number of occasions the room was lovely and clean we had a lovely view overlooking the River Tay the whole hotel was very clean staff very helpful and friendly meals were lovely and a great selection of beers wines and spirit's at very reasonably prices I would defiantly recommend this hotel and will defiantly be returning

    « Dreadfull »

If you want a nice clean comfortable place to stay avoid this hotel. We booked and paid for 2 Rooms. Our rooms were in the basement (we booked months in advance). The I think white net curtains were ripped and really dirty. The heavy curtains did not meet in the centre. The bath had a big chip out of it. The breakfast room on the Saturday morning was bad only one person running around mad doing her best to try and make sure crockery was washed and put out unfortunately she could not manage on her own so it was a bit dirty with milk spilled stains and no clean cutlery . The next day, Sunday had more staff and was a bit cleaner. However the staff were very nice in the breakfast room and in the bar. To sum it all up Winston Churchill visited here a long time ago and by the look of our rooms they hadn't been decorated since then Agnes Macdonald. Glasgow

Good looking Hotel externally and internally, great location - less than 5 minute walk to City centre. Large car park at rear of hotel, always a bonus. My double room was excellent - spacious, clean and comfortable. The service and breakfast was very good. Overall very good value for money.

    « Did It's Job! »

Stayed one night on Friday 14 April 2017. Lots of things looking a bit tired around the hotel, hence only 4/5, but it was very clean and staff very approachable and helpful. Loved the staircase. Plenty of hot water in the room, and good pressure too. Not always a given, particularly in older buildings. Ten minute walk from railway station, and five minutes from some of the local attractions. Very comfortable bed, so very good sleep. Would definitely use again.

    4
« Stayed for 2 nights in a nicely sized, clean double room, floor-boards were a bit squeeky- but lots of character. »

Hotel was within 5 minutes walk of city centre, staff were very nice, parking was free- which was a huge bonus in the city. The building itself is fantastic and I wandered around some of the grand rooms for a peek which was great.

« Best western Queens hotel Dundee »

Very well placed with excellent amenities, caring staff the only thing to comment on was the bed which was particularly hard which rendered me an uncomfortable sleepless night. The hotel itself was in an excellent position being within the town centre and within walking distance of the ship Discovery and lots of pubs and restaurants close by.

    « Uncomfortable stay »

Stayed here for one night on business. Staff are amazing but are let down by tired accommodation that is run down. The room I stayed in, 402, was unbearably hot. Unfortunately the room also was not entirely clean. Very disappointing experience.

    « Fantastic staff »

Great place to stay fantastic staff and great food. The rooms are all a good size. I was there for five weeks and stayed in at least 3 of the rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful The food is good and a good choice. Great for town centre location

One night stay. Short walk from railway station. Close to city centre shopping and nightlife. Helpful reception staff. Double room was very large and a great price. Lots of storage space. Comfortable bed. Large ensuite bathroom. View of city centre and Tay bridge from hotel window.

    « A great Old Hotel »

My wife and I often visit our daughter in Dundee and we just love this old place. Great location, shops, pubs, cafes all close, 5 or 7 minute walk from train station. Great breakfast, lovely clean cosy old hotel . If it was good enough for Churchill , it's good enough for me. I highly recommend.

    5
« Excellent location and a pleasant experience »

Booked a room as I was involved in a nearby conference. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel has a lot of character. Wi-Fi worked perfectly on my iPad, which was unexpected as the hotel is advertised as free Wi-Fi in the lobby. Comfy bed and good shower, plus a TV and plenty of extra perks. Breakfast was very good. The black pudding was especially tasty. Decent hotel.

    3
« Handy for the city centre »

We stayed here last week. The car park was a big plus, however our room was small - even claustrophobic. We had just enough room to get round the bed and that was all. The inclusive breakfast was pretty basic. The food was OK, overcooked fried eggs, greasy bacon. A member of staff served the cooked food so unless you wanted a particular item you didn't get to see it to make a choice. The breakfast room was devoid of character and left me feeling the quicker I ate the quicker I could leave. The en-suite was adequate although the new bathroom tiles were so close to the bath taps that the tiles had fractured as the taps had been turned on, no flannels and no shampoo, soap etc. although there were two bottles of liquid soap attached to the wall. All in all would I go back - no - I would look harder for a better appointed hotel and pay a little more.

    « Old school charm »

Received a cheap deal for an overnight stay. When we arrived, we knew what to expect as we had seen online that the standard room was small and quaint. However, I was please as my room was clean and tidy. My only issue was the bed, it was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever encountered in a hotel! Lumpy, thin, rock hard and squeaky; I didn't sleep well. There are elements of the hotel that need updated (the hairdryer for one!) but it did have a sense of old school charm. The staff were pleasant, friendly and efficient. The plentiful onsite parking was ideal. I didn't have the breakfast so cannot comment.

« A good hotel close to The Dundee Rep Theatre and Dundee Contemporary Arts »

We stayed for two nights enjoying local attractions. A good atmosphere typical of some decades ago. Clean and warm. Nice full breakfast. Lots of things going on in the function rooms, weddings, receptions, tribute etc. Our room situated on a floor not disturbed by this.

    « Excellent value »

Stayed under the Friends and Family arrangement and found the whole stay thoroughly enjoyable. The room was comfortable, though a little noisy due to late night revels from a wedding party in the hotel at the time. Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideally situated for easy access to all the places we visited in the town with good secure parking.

Booked two nights through Booking.com,paid £130,for room only, our room was on the second floor room 209,lovely large room, comfy bed, large bathroom, double shower,no bath.Check in quick with pleasant staff, car park at the back of the hotel. We had booked a room for one night for our son and daughter in law to join us,they were a bit disappointed with their room 212,it was a lot smaller than ours, not much room to move about, didn't really think it was worth the £65 for theirs.

« Bizarre Check in experience when I tried to get an upgrade »

We had booked 10 rooms (some with 2 nights per room) - when we came to check in, I asked if they had any nicer/superior rooms as we were going to be staying at the hotel all week. The older man at the desk tried hard not to answer my question and infact stated that all the rooms were the same and that he had set aside a family room for us. I pointed out that hotels normally have standard, executive, superior rooms etc. and whether by any chance their hotel used this kind of a grading system. He tried to deny that they did, but contradicting himself, he said they had some rooms that were superior ...........but that apparently those rooms were the same as all the others. He was clearly getting irate with me for having asked about an upgrade and tried boasting that he was the owner of the hotel. I really didn't see the relevance of him throwing in the fact that he was the owner - unless of couse he was trying to impress upon me that his level of customer service was the gold standard that he was trying to rub off on his employees. He then said that he normally charges £20 extra per superior room per night but still insisted that all the rooms were all the same! He failed to see any inconsistency in his logic or argumentation - ie that he was charging £20 extra per superior room so how could they be the same as the other standard rooms! I was really upset with his unfriendly attitude - especially after a 5 hour drive! In the end we asked to see both the family room and the superior room - clearly the superior room was indeed superior to the family room but also overlooked the quieter side of the hotel as opposed to the busy street at the front of the hotel - the family room was facing to the front. I really did not understand his unfriendly attitude and refusal to acknowledge that the superior room (which he charges £20 extra for) was indeed superior to other standard rooms in the hotel! Oh, and despite paying for all those rooms for our guests he said he was going to go ahead and charge us £20 a night extra for the superior room. In the end he sent the younger reception desk clerk to our room to give us an extra pair of towels (the room had been prepared for a single guest). This younger man gave us the towels and told us that they were going to wave the £20 extra per night. I told this younger man that I really didn't understand the unfriendly attitude - the young man simply told me that I could tell the owner myself the next day. That basically sums up the customer service. On the plus side the breakfast service was nice as was the breakfast itself.

At a wedding evening reception and cannot fault it. We stayed overnight and the room was first class. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. We often come up to Dundee for a bit of shopping and staying overnight. The Queens will be our first call now

Pleasant stay in an historic hotel. Interesting to think some of the Discovery crew stayed here over a hundred years before. Some street noise on our first night but peaceful the following one. Hotel is in a good location for shopping and touristy stuff.

« UNHELPFUL AND UNFRIENDLY STAFF!!!! »

I am a the supplier of a wedding cake for an event at this hotel on 7th October.... as I always do I go that extra distance to help any bridal party as it's their SPECIAL day so in this case I provided them with a unique cake stand to display their special creation for their special day... I have had these cake stands made specifically for me AND THE HOTEL HAVE LOST IT!!!!! The General Manager yesterday was not accepting responsibility for loosing this cake stand and promised to call me back today I waited and no further communication from him! so now today he has been invoiced for it as I will have to have another specially designed for me.... how can a hotel of this size possibly loose a cake stand??????? The Bridal party have also had the run around and no further communication from the General Manager Gordon Sneddon. Very disappointed in their attitude to the whole experience. This cake stand I also had booked out this weekend for another Bridal Party so I now have a very disappointed bride she had chosen to use this cake stand for her special day on Friday she's not happy now either!!!!

I stay at the Queens all the time with work, I like it so much I brought my family up for a few days while I was at work. They loved the staircase. The Overgate precinct, discovery centre and Dundee science museum are all literally on the door step. The staff are all brilliant the food is excellent although I would like to see a specials board once in a while for a change from the normal menu. My favourites off the menu are the steak pie and the scampi, the chicken skewers are great really spicy and for breakfast it has to be the Arbroath Smokies . I would recommend the Queens hotel to anyone.

« Arbroath Smokies for breakfast, Yum! »

A short walk from the rail station, well received at reception and as our room was ready we were able to gain access to it early, which after a long journey was good. The hotel was a little tired looking and would look fantastic with some serious money spent on it, having said that it was clean and warm and an ideal base for our one night in Dundee. The real treat for me was breakfast, Arbroath Smokies, being one of the options and at no extra cost, unlike other hotels I have stopped at. So if you get chance I would highly recommend having them.

« Comfy beds and friendly staff but too much noise »

We stayed for one night (a Saturday) in a 2nd floor room, facing the street. The room was very spacious, high ceilings, lovely comfy beds and very clean. There was a lift too - useful for our disabled parents. The staff were helpful and friendly. Parents enjoyed their excellent breakfast. However, the music from the wedding on the floor below us went on until 1am. Thereafter, the noise from the street (people coming out of clubs/pubs etc) kept me awake until 4am. The hotel needs double or triple glazing at the front. I would stay again but not on a Friday or Saturday night and also ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

    « Absolutely disgusted »

I booked a room here as a gift for my mother and her friend as they were attending a concert nearby! Big mistake!!!! On check in they were given a double room, I had booked a twin!!! On getting to their twin room, they found it to be very dirty! Dust everywhere, filthy windows that you couldn't see out of, one towel between them, dirty bed linen and a smell of stale urine!! On complaining at reception they were given an air freshener!!! Apparently the hotel was full and they couldn't be moved!!! They did however decide to dine in the hotel and had to return their inedible meals!!! On speaking to a member of staff n check out, I think this was the head housekeeper, they were told "this is not a 5* hotel and my staff are on minimum wage" It surely doesn't matter what your star rating is, a clean hotel is a must!!! I am absolutely disgusted at the experience my mother and her friend have had! Even on a staff rate, yes, (I do work for BW) you do expect a certain standard! This hotel is not a good advert for Best Western!! Would I use this hotel again? Definitely not!!!!

    « Wedding Day »

We held our Wedding ceremony and meal there, Couldn't ask for a more attentive Manager and staff, Nothing was too much of a problem, and we can say, If there were going to be any problems, Manager and staff, were well ahead of it, ensuring everything ran as smooth as any one could wish. We stayed overnight, bed was very comfortable, no outside noise, and views were very nice

« Rude staff and Hidden Charges »

Its unfortunate because the actually hotel is nice but the staff are down right rude. We booked a twin room and upon arrival was told only 1 person could be in the room and had to pay £20 extra for one night to have full use of the room. Nothing whatsoever on the booking confirmation to say this. Very disappointing.

Is everything all right for you? Enjoy your stay. Thankyou. All of these well known phrases are unknown to the receptionist of this hotel. Our room had only two towels in it so we asked for more as there were two of us. The receptionist went through the back and when she returned to the desk she handed my husband a pair of towels.Slightly taken aback by this we explained we were just going to eat. We were then told we could collect them from reception when we came back! The restaurant of this hotel is now closed and they only serve meals in their public bar. On return at 11pm the reception was shut and the only staff was the night porter who was happy to fetch towels but had to finish serving in the bar first. The hotel is tired in decor (the door to reception is hanging off its hinges) Most staff pleasant but very few of them. We have stayed here a few times but this will be the last. Had we been asked this morning if we had a nice stay, I would have discussed all this with the hotel. Hoewver the only two words spoken to us were "checking out?"

« Dated looking but great location »

A big plus with this hotel is the location which is excellent with a car park to the rear of the hotel which has plenty of space. The wi-fi is good as well which I consider essential. Theres lots of places to eat nearby and you are next to an independent cinema. The staff are nice and helpful but the look of the place is a bit drab. The breakfast is underwhelming and the dinners average,

« Ok for a night stay, not longer »

I would say it is ok hotel to stay overnight when desperately in need but otherwise it's better to avoid. Old building, covered in carpets...you can't avoid the unpleasant smell! The rooms would maybe be ok, but beds are really old and very uncomfortable. Really bad restaurant/bar and meals are better to avoid! Although the location is central and convenient, however be ready for night noise of drunk party people from the streets. I hope I won't have to be back here again...

Best Western Queens Hotel 160 Nethergate, Dundee, DD1 4DU, UK CHECK-IN: 09 Sep 2016 CHECK-OUT:10 Sep 2016 CONTACT NUMBER: 01382 322515 Standard Twin Room Rate Type: BW Rewards Extra Points - Bed & Breakfast Live in Dundee and been in the Queens many times from the Christmas Dinner Joy to the Happiness of seeing another Happy Couple Married, once I was even in at a Seminar that was held in one of the Hotels really nice meeting rooms. Hotel supplied food for this event and always remember the very nice plate of Garlic Bread, none of the 6 pack you get in many places this was proper deal with salad to accompany. So Clearly I like this Hotel and rate it well but upon the last visit, I was disappointed by one simple detail that being can you tell me when the net curtains were last taken down and washed? This one very small detail made the whole room out rhythm as rest is just warm best way to describe would be..... like sat in Grannies house only thing missing is an open fire and "grannies smell" grabbing that bit of coal that comes shooting out. I am not going to let this spoil my visit as a simple detail but a reflection in price should be shown if room standard is below par. Now while in the room I did note that as I was there the sash windows started to fog up making me think that these curtains may be down quite often but the build up of condensation is, in fact, the problem. anyway enough back to review. I had a very comfortable night much to watch on the Free TV channels available to each guest also was nice to have a wi-fi Password given at reception, oops missed that part Booking in was met with a Happy Smiling face Happy to see you and a quick painless check in all the normal rules and safety all explained and clear instructions on how to get to room, even if one does get lost plenty signage to get you back on track. For the Car owners secured entry Car Park to the rear of the hotel, The Hotel, however, does not offer theft of anything left in your car. The hotel does offer a safe deposit box for anything you may want to be kept safe. ask at reception about this. The good thing about when in this Hotel though there is always something on and if lucky you may know that Bloke getting wed (FREE night out) Bar is really nice and a warm place to sit and chill..... but yeah like I say though I am no stranger to this Hotel. Breakfast was supplied in the very nice dining room with the quirky artwork upon the walls, made me give a smirk. Met by a very charming man to address my requests, I chose to have a Cappuccino and very nice it was too offer to help self to the VAST Breakfast Buffet that was laid on FREE. At this stage I was sort of gutted I had already ordered a full cooked Breakfast as all on display was very inviting. I could do a list of what was there but if you like something for own Breakfast I think it would have been there. NOW on to the main event The meal, lovely bacon, nice juicy mushroom, sausages black pudding and all the eggs and beans, all nice and hot and most certainly enjoyed. « Basic but good value without frills »

This is a budget hotel reasonably well situated in Dundee with the bonus of a secure car park at the rear of the hotel. The rooms are of reasonable size, clean and comfortable, I stayed on the 4th floor which was accessible via a lift, the cold water tap in the bathroom had water hammer which is the first time I have came across it in a hotel and and probably a testimony of it's age. Cheap toilet paper and TV remote control which doesn't work, all what you pay for I guess. I had a room at the back of the hotel which overlooked the river but you will also get noise from the late night drinkers out of the bar having a smoke if you are there for a weekend. The WiFi is OK and they try their best to please, did not like the fact I had to pay in advance on check-in.

« Ok for an overnight »

Stayed here as our first choice (Premier Inn) was fully booked. Came for the University open day. We had 2 rooms for the 3 of us. Brilliant location - just across the road from the Uni. A bit of a tired and crusty old feel to the place. However, a reasonable room with all the facilities you'd expect - tea/coffee making, hairdryer, clean & tidy, etc. Good check in/check out experience. Pleasant and efficient staff at front desk. More expensive than a Premier Inn, but a smaller double bed. Breakfast was good. Ordered and delivered by the time we drank a coffee - not kept waiting long at all. Good.

Despite making dietary request on booking, this was not met and the restaurant staff seemed unaware, it had been conveyed the previous night. I am wheat and dairy intollerant. Staff had an air of disinterest other than the reception staff on night of check in. A real disappointment.

« worst night sleep ever »

My partner and I booked the Queens hotel for one night due to being on route to Aberdeen. We wanted one night stop over to recharge the batteries. The hotel looked lovely on the website site and seemed to be just what we needed. When we arrived we found out there was a wedding at the hotel. The lovely lady that booked us in informed us that she has just had some cancellation and was able to move us to a bigger room. UNFORTUNATELY we were moved to a room above the wedding. This turned out to be THE WORST NIGHT SLEEP EVER. the wedding went on until the small hours of the morning. Our neighbours were part of the wedding party and were unable to talk and only able to shout to each other. They were in and out of there room until 4am, falling about drunk. I am no kill joy and love a party my self, but these people didn't consider other guests and from there language, I question if they were brought up or dragged up. The bed was also VERY uncomfortable. 2 very old single beds pushed together. For £120 a night in didn't think that was acceptable. We didn't stay for breakfast

« Bizarre difference in room rates »

We stayed in the Queen's Hotel for four nights in February 2016, having booked through the hotel's website. We enjoyed the grand old building and found the reception staff helpful. The breakfast was good, though the two waiters were clearly overworked. Our room was large and quiet (but the late-night noise from other guests in the corridors was annoying). We booked into the Queen's for a second visit in November 2016. We asked for the same kind of room that we had had in February. The rate we got from the hotel's own website was GBP 75 higher per night than we had paid in February! We e-mailed the hotel three times to ask why the rate had changed so dramatically. We never got a reply. In the end we cancelled the booking (by phone, since e-mailing the hotel is a waste of time). We want to be able to stay in the Queen's again but at those rip-off rates we will look elsewhere.

    « Better than expected »

Having read a few previous reviews and looking at some of the photos I was a bit apprehensive about staying here. The hotel is a lovely old building near the station and the shops. If u come in from the car park you arrive at the reception desk which is a little dated but the staff were quick and efficient with our check in. Our room was on the 4th floor and had a lot of character with the high ceilings and cornicing. The room was very clean as was the bathroom which looked recently renovated. Very pleasantly surprised by the Queens Hotel

    « Good stay »

Had a good weekend stay in the hotel only downside was there was a wedding on the Saturday night and we could hear all the noise until it finished around 12/1. Other than that was a lovely weekend has everything you need and had friendly staff. Was lovely to sit and chill in the large bar area to where you were made to feel most welcome, cannot comment on food as we ate out

    « A distinctive hotel »

The hotel has welcoming staff in an atmosphere of a hotel about 50 years ago. This should not be a deterrent as the hotel is well maintained, and the rooms have character which makes the stay very enjoyable. Both Dinner and Breakfast provide an excellent menu, the latter even has 'smokies' which is a great delight. The latter dish is very difficult to find in Scotland, but Arbroath, being so close, this is the reason no doubt. A very enjoyable sojurn.

    « Smallest room ever »

Stayed here for one night smallest room ever had a 3/4 bed ... was booked for 2 people bathroom was bigger than the room and the dust on the wall paper was awful .... would never stay here again even if it was free ... the man on the desk was very abrupt too and hotel doesn't look like it's been done up since Winston Churchill apparently stayed there !!

    « Basic »

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. Old Victorian style building. Grand staircase at the front, with a poky reception area at the back. Very helpful staff in every area of the hotel. The room was large, and very clean. The bathroom looked recently updated and was very clean too. Furniture and fixtures were tired looking and need some attention soon. The door hook on the back of the room door came off when I hung my jacket up and one of the bed lights didn't work. Breakfast was decent-lots of choice from cooked hot breakfast items to croissants, toast, jams etc. It's located very centrally too. All in all, a nice, basic hotel experience. Recommended for those who are on a budget and have a love for the older Victorian hotels.

« Great location and a comfortable stay »

I stayed recently with some friends whilst attending an event at the hotel. The BW Queen's Hotel is well located in Dundee and with plenty of free parking. Friendly welcome on arrival with very clean and comfortable room. The dinner in the hotel was very good indeed: excellent home-made Scotch Broth and the Roast Beef was really flavoursome. There was a Wedding going on at the time of my stay and I believe they do a terrific all-in package at £2,016 this year and £2,017 next year. Really enjoyed my breakfast and the older waiter was particularly friendly. I look forward to returning again when looking to stay in Dundee.

« Nice hotel in a convenient location »

I stayed alone at the Queens Hotel on business, visiting the University of Dundee which really couldn't be any closer - the hotel is a minute's walk from the campus and about 5-10 minutes from the train station. The hotel clearly has some history but the inside was generally fresh and up to date, though some areas were a little more dated. My room was well decorated and was spacious and comfortable. The bed was decent if a little on the firm side. Big windows let in a lot of natural light and gave nice enough views over Dundee. All the normal essentials could be found within the room. The TV signal was a bit on the ropey side, but wi-fi was generally stable and was free throughout the hotel. Service at the front desk was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was decent, with a cooked buffet and continental options to serve yourself. All in all, a pleasant stay, though it did lack a 'wow' factor; I'd certainly have no problem staying again on future business trips.

Been several times now. Clean, friendly, comfortable, central hotel with benifit of parking. Room and facilities have always been great. May 2016 ate in restaurant for first and last time. Breakfast was fine but dinner was appalling. Microwave rice and Marie rose sauce made from mayonnaise and ketchup. Meal was amateur and that would be insulting many amateur cooks. Would still return but not to eat.

The structure (internal and external) of this hotel is simply exceptional, the service is good, rooms very classical although a tad dated, some with incredible view over the harbour and the bridge, very good breakfast. Strategically placed in the main street, with own parking this hotel has a very busy restaurant and pub.

    « Family party visit »

We really enjoyed our stay here and gave stayed before, the service is excellent by reception and the bar and breakfast staff, the room was just perfect and very clean my husband uses a wheelchair and we were accommodated on the ground floor with easy access to our room, I would say the hotel deserves a 5 star if it wasn't for the fact that if your disabled and use a wheelchair, there is no other way of getting to the restraint without going down stairs I think 6 in all, there is a lift to each floor apart from this one, we did suggest last time we were there that they get some sort of ramp which was noted by the receptionist so when it was the same this time we were very disappointed, I again mentioned it at reception and the Young man said he would tell management, my husband has one leg and arm so hoping down was fine but we then had to go out the front door which had to be unlocked to go down a steep hill to get bk onto the ground floor, the hot plates had also Brocken down in the restraint but the head waiter after being told then had everything made in the upstairs kitchen he was very good and quick once he had been informed, I would say there was maybe 8-10 of us who had our breakfast warmed in a microwave before staff noticed. Please don't let this put you of if your not disabled or have a family member who is as the hotel is excellent and we would visit again but I think they should do free room service to the disabled customers or allow a family member to take breakfast to them in their room.

    « Excellent location »

I stayed here during a weekend visiting the City where I once spent 9 years. The location is great: ideal for pubs and bars and within easy walking distance of the city centre and shops. There is also parking on site behind the hotel, which requires a security code to exit (code is changed every week). My tiny room was high up on the fourth floor, with a quirky sloped, angled ceiling. The window (which I had to stand on a chair to access) had a perfectly framed view of Dundee Law, which pleased me greatly (even though I had requested a river view on my booking). The room was small but nicely decorated, cosy and with a clean, well appointed bathroom. After a long journey, I opted for some room service on my first night, before heading out. The food was better than I expected, generous in it's portions, well-priced and prompt in its arrival. I returned around 0200 and had to ring the night bell to be allowed access to the main door, as it gets locked. Disgraced! On my second day, after a full day catching up with old friends and visiting old haunts, I returned to the hotel and as is usual, I opted for the stairs rather than the lift. However I had only previously used the main stairs, but on this occasion I accessed an entirely different set of stairs, opposite reception. The first couple of flights were carpeted, but then it became reminiscent of the stairwells and closies of the tenements that I used to reside in, with their bare concrete steps and two-tone peeling paint walls. I was clearly well off track and on some kind of service staircase, but there had been no signage to make this clear. On day three I requested that reception add a cooked breakfast to my bill so that I could dine in for breakfast. This was a drab, lukewarm, rubbery affair which was not worth the £7 price tag. On the upside, the coffee was good and in plentiful supply. Reception actually forgot to add this to my bill, but being the honest citizen I am, I reminded them to add it on check out! After another busy day, I returned for a quick freshen up and change of clothes. Knowing that it would be another heavy night of beverages with friends, I thought it would be pertinent to line my stomach. Unfortunately though, there is no room service on Sundays. Being a Best Western, you can expect a certain standard and the Queens delivers that. There are some lovely features too, like the grand staircase, and some sizable function rooms. It met expectations, was an ideal base and I would definitely stay again, but it is just average on the whole.

My husband and I spent 1 night over the Easter holidays 2016. We found the hotel to be clean and tidy throughout. The staff couldn't be more helpful and very nice. We had a lovely view across the river Tay and surrounding countryside from our window. The bed was very comfortable and our en-suite was adequate for purpose. The breakfast in the morning had a few choices which would have catered for most people and we had a full fry freshly cooked and served to us by the chef. The hotel has it's own car park which is free to those staying in the hotel.

    « GREAT VALUE »

My wife and I stayed here overnight using an Itison voucher. Our stay cost £59 which included bed, breakfast and an evening meal with a glass of wine each. Absolutely superb value for money. The hotel is located right in the centre of Dundee and within easy walking distance of the bus and train stations. We stayed in Room 307 which was on the corner of the hotel, overlooking the main street on one side and the Tay on the other. The room was large and although fairly tired was very comfortable. I had seen previous complaints about the Wifi but found when we were there it worked perfectly well. When we went down for dinner at night we waited for about 15 min and no one came near us to take our order so I went and complained to the waiter who told us they were short staffed. However in fairness he then sorted the problem out and gave us an extra glass of wine each in recompense which I thought was excellent customer service. Breakfast the next morning was excellent and all the staff were very friendly. During our stay we visited the "Discovery Experience" about Captain Cooks famous voyage to Antarctica which was excellent. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and would have no hesitation returning

    « Hotel with character »

The hotel has lots of character so it's easy to forgive it for being a bit tired in places with lots of creaky floorboards. The rooms are clean and comfortable and are typical of a 3 star hotel. The staff were all very polite and helpful. Hot breakfasts are to order, not a buffet, and Arbroath smokies (smoked fish) are available if you fancy a nice change from bacon and eggs. The bar food was pretty average so I wouldn't bother eating in as there are lots of good restaurants within a five minute walk.

    « Disappointed »

This hotel dated could do with a face lift. Staff are very helpful, food is good service also fine but really expected better. Some rooms very small with no view other rooms have little to no view very little to no amenities found the room cold although there was a small heater stored in cuboard. Have to run the hot water for sometime before able to get to a level for a comfortable shower. Noticed that there were very few table for couples not everyone is happy sharing with strangers for breakfast or for that matter dinner.

    « Good location »

Stayed for one night here , rooms were clean and bathroom adequate. Warm room with kettle and tea/coffee facilities, nice touch with alarm clock. Bar meal was fine and good/efficient female bar staff Breakfast served with a non-talkative older gent, he was the only one who seemed to have a 'bad hair day problem' all other staff were 1st class . Parking at rear of hotel made life easy

    « An Ideal Situation »

We had a one night stay here with an Itison voucher which was excellent value for £59. We had a lovely spacious room (307) and bathroom on the 3rd floor and the bathroom had a great view of the Tay Road bridge and river! Everything was spotlessly clean. The deal included a main course and small glass or wine or soft drink in the Q Bar. The young lad who served us was friendly, helpful and cheerful. We had free check-out until 1pm which was great. Wi-Fi wasn't great as I kept getting thrown out but that could have been due to McAfee which kept saying there was a security problem. Hardly the end of the world though!! The Discovery Centre is a 'must see' and we could have spent hours there and within easy walking distance of the hotel. A gallery with cinema is very close by too. For those who love shopping, this is the place. We'd be very happy to return to this hotel which has a bit of character due to its age, more so than modern hotels.

« Dated decor but the room was ok for one night »

This place looks quite dated but the room was clean enough. The wifi is very slow though and I wasn't able to get much done on line. There is a bar menu that wasn't too bad and quite reasonably priced. The area is perfect for an evening stroll with plenty of places to eat and a small cinema nearby. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

« For city visit, this hotel is a good one »

Very handy for attractions, theatre & shops. Friendly, caring staff. Comfortable room 401 with view out to the Tay & beyond. Hot food cooked to order at breakfast & in bistro. Would recommend this hotel for anyone on a visit to the city of Dundee

    « Quiet stay »

Stayed here for a short city break. Very convenient location, easy parking. Food wasn't very good in bar. Breakfast was better. Room had great view. Not very quiet. We were woken up by noisy neighbours each night who stood and chatted in corridors and did the same again in the morning! Beautiful staircase.

« A Quaint Hotel in the heart of Dundee »

I like hotels with character. I know many people enjoy modern accommodations where they are surrounded by the latest in technology and the facilities are so new as to show no signs of wear. I enjoy walking down a hallway or up a staircase where the floor creaks a bit with each step. I like high ceilings and a pride of construction that seems to have disappeared in our time but was expected in the Victorian and Edwardian ages. The Best Western Queens is an old hotel with character. It was built in 1878, has high ceilings on most floors, a wide carpeted staircase, hallways with creaking floors, and solid stone walls that promise to stand for years to come. I have stayed there twice, with four years separating each stay. On first visit I had a large and comfortable room on the road side. The room had tall windows which could actually be opened, radiator heat, and was relatively quiet even though on the street-side. On my recent stay, I had a room on the top floor which was less memorable. It was perhaps one of the two smallest rooms in the hotel and very cramped. It did have a view of the River Tay and the waterfront some distance away. The top floor was apparently too distant from the wifi to offer consistent access. I had to sit in the lobby for internet connection and the phone in the room worked occasionally. The Hotel has ample parking and it has a breakfast room and bar. There is a letter framed on the wall of the lobby which only a hotel with great confidence or poor judgment would actually post on public display. It is a letter from Winston Churchill, who represented Dundee in Parliament early in his career and frequented the Hotel. In the letter, Churchill wrote, "This hotel is a great trial to me. I had half eaten a kipper when a huge maggot crept out and flashed his teeth at me." Fortunately, the Hotel and his food have improved over time.

Staff are very friendly clean and tidy room amazing views from the room the only thing was the bed was very uncomfortable wifi.tv.kettle cups coffee and milk sugar all in the room and hairdryer. Breakfast was really good friendly staff for breakfast but felt a bit sorry on the young girl doing all the service for breakfast she was rushed off her feet in would recommend to friends and family.

Second time we've stayed at this hotel. Very convenient for the city centre, shops only 5 mins away. Free parking which is a bonus. Food was very good, staff friendly. Mattress on bed could have been done with renewing, quite uncomfortable. Decor of rooms a bit dated

    « VERY TIRED HOTEL »

We stayed here for a family event in Dundee. The room was a good size but the overall impression was of an iconic city hotel that is long past its best. It is a fine Victorian building with a magnificent central staircase but the decor is depressing - the doors are old fashioned cheap plywood for example. The lift for some reason called the 'elevator' (in Dundee?) looks like something from Bucharest in 1981, with peeling varnish and a big space on one scruffy wall where I assume there was a picture or notice some time ago. On the positive side the staff were very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was good and offered Arbroath smokies but the buffet was a bit basic. There is a car park, which is a bonus for a central city hotel. Other family members stayed at the budget chain Holiday Inn Express which was a lot cheaper and rather more attractive.

    « Uncomfortable bed »

Pleasant hotel with courteous staff, but let down by a very uncomfortable bed. It was so noisy when I rolled over in my sleep, that it woke me up. Also, the floor boards creaked. I was in room 216. The breakfast was very good. Great location next to the train station and shopping.

Have been here before and was not disappointed. Great big room on the second floor with stunning views over the River Tay. « in the heart of the city »

.This time we had a rather small room - however 4 floors up corner room with 2 windows and stunning views over the river and the city made it ok. Room immaculate as ever with a big bathroom , nice shower and comfortable bed. Breakfast here takes some beating - terrific. We will be back and I recommend this hotel. Top class

Stayed here for 2 nights with friends. Bed absolutely huge! Room lovely & clean and warm. Receptionist a little po faced but breakfast staff and cleaning staff extremely friendly. Breakfast lovely with lots of options. Full buffet, porridge, cereals, Danish and toast. Juice and coffee/tea also. Hotel a little dated but rooms quite modern. Have stayed here a few times and definitely recommend.

What a great location and view of the hotel on the river Tay. The room was great and spacious. Wifi was a little weak in the room itself, which was a little disappointing. The bar offers a wide range of beverages and is open until late. The breakfast a bit disappointing as there was not much choice. Overall I had a good stay. Thank you.

« Avoid room 102 dissapointed is an under statement. »

The reason why I was disappointed is that I have stayed here before several times and as before the staff really helpful breakfast really good on site parking a bonus but avoid room 102 it feels like you are in the dungeons and the bathroom is falling to bits and if you like passerby's watching you have a shower then it's the room for you not my cuppa tea also the rubbish bin in the toon was full of pop cans I went to complain and the answer I got was were sorry I will send somebody to empty the bin not the reaction I thought I would have received the whole hotel needs a facelift.

    « Friendly Staff »

Just back from a 2 nighter. We got a cracking voucher deal, and we're very pleased. On site parking, brilliant views, good sized room and large bathroom. Staff were very good, especially at Breakfast. Brilliant food and warm service from a really great guy, think he was Manager. So central, and for what we paid, a really good overall experience. Only one issue, however, it is, unfortunately very common .......... please, please, can Hotels provide Kingsized beds ! In modern times, there is an expectation that a Hotel Room should have Kingsized Beds. The room we had was more than large enough to take a King, in fact the headboard, fixed to wall was for a Kingsize Bed. Other than that we would return ....... stating a Kingsized requirement at time of booking !

    « Nice staff...hotel a bit tired »

Spent 3 nights at this hotel. A very central location which is great with onsite parking. The hotel is a little dated inside and requires some updating. We were in room 208 which would certainly benefit from double glazing as the draft from the windows was terrible. Room 208 is above one of the function rooms which had a booking on the Friday night......no sleep until the music stopped at 1am. Asked at reception if a function was booked in for the Saturday and was told yes....great another noisy night. The receptionist would have moved us but the hotel was full. The evening meal option onsite is the Q Bar downstairs. The bar has a very limited pub grub menu so we ate out 2 of the 3 nights. The breakfast was lovely with lots of choice, a well run operation with nice friendly staff.

« Great location - hotel decor a little dated »

Receptionist was on her own and stuck on very long phone call which kept us waiting quite a while to check in. Room clean, staff friendly, location very central. Nice wee bar in the hotel. Carpets old and tatty and hotel looks a little run down.

« Needs cleaning and updating »

I decided to book this for a romantic night away but wished I'd gone for any of the other hotels in the area. On arrival, the car park was busy and the blue badge dedicated parking bays were cordoned off and out of use. Not the best start to the stay. The entrance to the hotel from the car park was unlocked so we could access the hotel without any card or without ringing a bell. It remained unlocked day and night whilst we were there, allowing free access to the hotel for anyone. The front entrance was just as poorly secure also being unlocked day and night. Perhaps this level of security was due to a function being held in the function suite? The hotel was noisy due to the party in the function room. Not noise from the function suite itself but from the guests wandering about the hallways, drunken and loud. This is not something that the hotel can do a lot about, but perhaps if the people entering the hotel's corridors were being monitored and controlled it would have improved the situation. The room itself was supposed to be a King Sized bedded room. We discovered later that the 'King Size' bed was twin single bed pushed together with a large sheet over the top. The ridge in the middle of this King Size bed made lying on it uncomfortable at best. I was told by the reception staff and later by the hotel owner that it was indeed a King Sized bed and it was supposed to be in two parts joined together!?! I am well under 6 feet tall and my feet were at the bottom of the bed so I would disagree with both members of staff. Had I known in advance about this, I would have opted for a double bed, presumably it is a one piece mattress....? The room was in need of a good clean and hoovering. There was dust on the tops of the curtain pelmet and on top of the shower screen and bathroom wall light. Under the bed wasn't as bad as the high places but it still hadn't seen a hoover for a while. The level of cleaning that the room had been given was appalling. The one saving grace was breakfast the following morning. The waitress was as attentive as could be. She did a great job of looking after the guests. Taking our orders, bringing the food out and topping up our coffee with a smile. The food was also good quality and was hot and tasty. Breakfast service is the only reason that I have not given the hotel a rating of 1! I could have mentioned other failures but think you can get the point by now. I can safely say that it was the worst night's sleep I have ever had anywhere and this isn't a hotel that I would return to. There are others in the area that are cheaper with better reviews. Do yourself a favour and go for any of those!

« Base for visiting area »

This was by second visit to this hotel with the previous one several years ago.It is a old building but the facilities in room and bathroom were good and all worked. The Wi-Fi that the hotel has is not brilliant in your rooms but is very strong in public areas on ground floor. Breakfast is very good and the evening meal is provided in bar area six nights except Sunday when the bar area is also closed. There are at least six or seven restaurants within short walking distance so you can eat out easily.

    « A surpise since last visit »

I was booked in the Hotel as it was the destination of a dinner and AGM I was attending in November. Having stayed in this hotel about 10 years ago when it was very tired I was pleasantly surprised by the recent upgraded work that had been done. New carpet and bright front hall. Very pleasant staff in Reception. As my friends and myself were early we were treated to a lovely coffee when waiting for the room to be ready, Nothing was too much bother. In the evening when we had dinner, we were all very pleasantly surprised by the menu and the good food. A great upgrade since our last visit. The food was excellent, served by very young training staff who were to be recommended by their efficiency. Lovely kids. In the morning breakfast was very good too. Plenty of choice with full breakfast served at the table again by efficient cheery staff. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough after our previous visit. I will be pleased to go back.

    « First Choice »

Best Western Queens Hotel was our first choice for our third visit to Dundee whilst on holiday. Yet again we found the hotel to be very quiet and have a high level of cleanliness and homely comfort, the breakfast the following day was more than adequate to our needs, a very big plus is the secure car parking which is not always available to travelers. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

    « Homely :-) »

The Queens Hotel is an old building full of character, and in a great location close to the City Centre, the station and University. Reception to Bar to Restaurant were professional, pleasant, efficient, and helpful. I was able to arrange stays over multiple consecutive weeks without problems. The windows could do with some TLC, but the spacious room is homely and well-maintained so that it is clean, towels are changed and the extremely comfortable bed is made daily. Includes Wi-Fi. Breakfast is delicious which is a combination of full English breakfast and buffet style option with a good selection. I certainly would stay here again.

« What it says on the tin. »

We stayed for one night, having popped across to Dundee to see The Proclaimers in concert. We had probably travelled 24, rather than 500 miles, but were not disappointed with the hotel. The location was excellent; the staff, from Reception to Bar to Restaurant were professional, friendly and efficient. The room was adequate, with a lovely view across to the Kingdom of Fife. It was dated, in terms of the furnishings, but spotlessly clean. Our breakfast was good. Overall, at 70 for a double room, very good vfm.

« A FANTASTIC STAY WILL BE BACK!! »

Where do I start??? Hmm well the rooms were large, comfortable and spotlessly clean, bath was a little small but it was a bath which after a long day manning a market stall was MUCH appreciated! Breakfast was superb and Id hazzard a guess at local butcher sausages being served which were delicious, along with everything else served up on hot plated by very cheery and friendly staff. Over our stay of 3 nights the chef popped out in the morning to ask about our days plans and would remember us the next morning which was lovely! Despite the nice rooms, great breakfast and evening meal (I will review the eatery separately) the best thing about this place is the staff. So very helpful and friendly from the chef to the young waitress at breakfast, the bar staff over run in the bar sue to xmas parties to the receptionist who stepped in to help in the eatery... nothing was too much trouble and each and every one of them is a credit to the hotel!!! I really hope that we do another market a Glamis next year just so we can stay here again!!!

« Good service, rooms a bit tired. »

I stayed here on two consecutive weeks. First, the bad stuff, the second room was cold, even with heat on full, and a shower only. The other room was great. I did arrive late on Sunday (1am) one week, from the car park entrance, to find the main door closed, and check in shut. If I hadn't stayed previously, I'd have been really freaked. Had to wait 15 minutes for assistant to arrive. No harm done, but a good idea to call ahead if you are arriving late Sunday. The staff were helpful, and the full English breakfast was good. Far better than the Continental option. Free parking downtown! Location was super handy for the station and University.

    « A Merry WHAT? »

A Christmas or Pre-Christmas meal should be a Special event. Ours was an event. My first impression of the Glamis Suite was a complete lack of festivity. Yes, the ultra-long table with its fresh white linen and immaculate settings was a joy to behold, but a couple of paper squares and thin paper napkins were the only signs of Christmas. There was more tinsel on the handrail at my next port of call, Halfords! Down the length of the table, only three jugs of water and condiments sets broke the barren white wilderness. A couple of seasonal decorations could surely have been rustled up, and crackers - even cheapos - are, to me at least, part of the event. Christmas without a paper hat? Humbug! I hate to have Musak blasting out whilst eating, but a little background music is fine. Alas, despite a big disco set-up dominating the room, there wasn't the merest tinkle of a lone Jingle Bell to be heard. Speaking of hats, I will now swap Mister Grumpy's for Mister Happy's! This was a church guild lunch, and the company was spot-on, but I knew it would be so as, although not a member of this church, I am always made very welcome. The meal was very tasty and piping hot, so full marks here. (A bit pricey for my liking, though.) It is a pity that I cannot offer separate marks for ambience and staff, as it would be 2/5 for the former, and 5/5 the latter. The half dozen hotel staff I met were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Top of the list, however, must be our young waiter and waitress who floated efficiently and unobtrusively round the table, pausing only now and then to exchange a merry quip. These two should form their own cabaret act. Actually, with so much bare space on the table, I did suggest they could pop up and perform a dance for us, but my idea was politely declined! .

    « Lovely Ladies Lunch »

We didn't stay in the hotel, but a group of 5 of us had our much overdue catch up in the bar on Saturday 28/11/2015. We were all very happy with our meals and there is an excellent, varied menu to choose from. For starters we opted for the fish cakes, and the spring rolls (all served with a very nice salad plus dips/sauces), and soup of the day - Scottish broth. Our mains were haddock & chips, and chicken skewers with rice. Again, all served with salad, veg, dips and sauces. As our catch up lasted over 4 hours, we managed desserts too! The cheese cake and the sticky toffee pudding were very well received, as were the cheese & oat cakes, with extra oat cakes provided on request. We were able to spend the afternoon catching up in lovely, comfortable surroundings. Unfortunately we didn't get any names, but the Brazilian guy who served us was so friendly and helpful. We didn't notice him finishing his shift, so didn't get a chance to thank him properly. Also the gentleman, who I think may be the owner, took time to stop and chat. We received 1st class service from all the staff, which helped create a lovely afternoon. We try to have a catch up a couple of times a year, and we'll definitely be back at The Queens.

« Central hotel in Dundee »

Overall we had a pleasant and comfortable stay. The Queens Hotel is an old and characterful building in the centre of Dundee with pleasant and helpful staff.. The rooms were spacious and clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The heating was full on when we arrived but we turned the radiator off and that did the trick. I felt the decor of the bedrooms was rather old-fashioned for my taste but in keeping with the building itself. The breakfast waiter was a really nice chap and made sure we had a nice start to our day. We were in Dundee for my daughter's graduation and the staff ensured our luggage was safely stored until after the ceremony and celebratory meal, so we just picked it up on our way to the railway station.

« Seen better days but still good »

There is something comforting about the elderly Queens Hotel in Dundee. Nice and handy from the station and very reasonably priced. I think its the dated swirly carpets and the shabby grand staircase that you first notice but its clean and comfortable and the Scottish breakfast was one of the best I've had in ages with friendly helpful staff and you're right in the middle of the University and city centre.

« Staff let it down - poor customer service »

Stayed there last night. Excellent location right at the back of the science centre, 15/20 mins walk to harbour, 5/10 mins walk to shops. Kept car in the free car park for duration of stay. This was booked the day before arrival on Expedia. Receptionist asked for payment and advised I had paid through Expedia. said papers weren't printed (not sure what she meant) therefore was unable to confirm if I had paid or not, but her facial expression told me she didn't believe. I went to my room to be overcome by stifling heat. I turned the radiator down from full to half, unpacked then headed back out to cool down. Our room picked up wifi great, quick access to back door and out to carpark. So going through reception could be avoided. The only down sided to this was that everytime someone came in and out the doors near our room. It slammed shut!! On plus side breakfast was very good, but again staff with the exception of one girl (who asked our room number and served my food ) actually communicated with me. The other two prettyuch kept there heads down, so when I needed stuff cleared off the table there was no eye contact. Whilst waiting to check out, I quite clearly overhead male receptionist giving the customer in front of me his final bill. The customer politely said the bill was not correct - it was in fact short and should have been more, it appeared a round of drinks was possibly missing. The main couldn't remember exactly what made up the round, so the receptionist told him he would have to just book him what he had done he couldn't remember. Not to worry though because of the missing bill was found it would come off the waitress/waiters tips!!! WHAT????!!!! Did he really say this?? At the end of the day of the hotel can't get the bill right and the customer tells them this and they still can't fix it them when lay a guilt trip on the customer by mentioning taking off the tips!!! Not impressed!! My turn to check out... He asks for the payment for my room. I reiterate it's prepaid and he says so it is, by Expedia. So why ask for payment? Why no say "thank for staying Mrs X. Your bill is paid and you have nothing more to pay today".. This setup could do with a bit of a customer service injection.

I stayed here for 4 days and couldn't get wifi in my room. There were no facilities, had to sit in the bar as no lounge, bar was very noisy! « We love the Queens Hotel! »

I stayed here just at the weekend there for my friends hen night ,which was also upstairs in the function suite of the Queens. Our rooms were lovely and cosy on arrival, and clean and tidy. Big huge bed was really comfy too. The function itself, all staff were amazing and helpful all night and the food the provided us all was perfect and actually more than expected. We were very pleased with everything. My friend and I have stayed at the Wueens hotel every year for the past three years and I couldn't fault it. Reception staff are always very welcoming too. Highly recommend!

    « Worst WiFi Ever »

The Queens is conveniently located to the University of Dundee, and has a free car park for guests. I have stayed here 4 times and it is generally okay, not great, not bad, however the wifi is enough to drive you round the bend. If you need to work online, don't stay here!

« Grand old lady in need of a makeover »

In a very good location overlooking the river Tay this grand old hotel, built in the 1870s should be a huge success in a town that is developing rapidly and lacks good hotels. Whilst the staff were very helpful during our two night stay recently the facilities are tired and greatly in need of some investment. The bathrooms were probably last upgraded in about the 1970s and the rooms could do with some modernisation of the lighting, ventilation and heating. They were clean and tidy and the staff are doing their best but Great Western need to turn this hotel into what it was when built, a great place to stay. The food was well cooked but the menu was very similar to the one we were presented with when we last stayed over 20 years ago. Could do better. Price reasonable

« Really terrible experience in Queens hotel »

We arrived at the hotel, got to our room .. Which really was very poor and very depressing .. It was like going back in time, dirty filthy Windows and shocking dust so thick not far from bed !! The bed was so thin it truly hurt your back. Breakfast was the final straw when I asked for a smokie fish with a poached egg, it clearly had these items listed together. The waitress said No we can't do that, and I asked why she just said because we don't do it that way. This was in front of other guests at breakfast. I then had to argue that it clearly says and pointed it out on the menu that you can choose what you want . She then went to ask the manager and came back and said ok. The manager was .. The one cooking breakfast ? God knows !! Anyway, when my breakfast came it was a smoked haddock and poached egg, it wasn't fresh, it was poorly presented and the fish tasted old !! We were pleased to leave this room.. don't expect any nice toiletries whatsoever.. And don't expect a smile from reception. We will never stay in this dirty room again !! Look at this dust !! Just so shocking we should have had a refund !!!!

« Comfortable One Night Stay »

This is not one of the Better Best Western Hotels around and is in need of modernisation. However saying that all the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the rooms were small but adequate, I had a perfect nights sleep and that was in a room next to the main road. The breakfast was the usual buffet style with a good selection. I would stay in this hotel again.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights last week and couldn't fault the hotel at all. The location is perfect and the hotel offers free parking and Wi-Fi. The staff are very friendly and polite and also very professional at what they do. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices and although we did not have dinner in the hotel the bar/lounge is very quiet and comfortable to sit and relax. Room 307 is lovely and spacious and the bed is the most comfortable I've slept in. Will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Dundee.

Me and my sister stayed Friday and Saturday great value for money old fashioned well trained staff who know how to deal with guests which is very rare these days with bland faceless brands of hotels where your just a credit card number the queens is a breath of fresh air and long may it continue! Dated no music in the bar felt like i was in a library, almost felt like i was in an care home for old people, rooms are nice and clean, you get free parking, went for breakfast and it was again like stepping into the 60's so went out for breakfast at a local cafe, there is also no restaurant at the monment so had to go out for dinner. Best western step up your game this could be a fab hotel with a bit of work!!

The hotel restaurant is currently being refurbished and they were using a temporary dining area on the first floor. Despite this the staff make every work well. The room was spacious and very clean. A very enjoyable stay.

« Very dated and poor quality for a Best Western »

Stayed here on business and was greatly disappointed. The grand façade and public meeting spaces masked a dilapidated interior. The lift felt like it would come to a halt. The rooms failed to block noise. The wallpaper was coming off the ceiling. The top hinge had become detached from the door. And the bed was rock hard on one side and too soft on the other. It was all topped off by the dated décor in the breakfast room. The breakfast was poor - the cheese was clearly past its sell by date, the pastries looked odd. And when I went to try one of the latter the limited choice was depleted by the manager who managed - and this was an art - to eat an entire pastry in one go. The whole lot was a tremendous disappointment consider the once grand hotel it had been - and the impressive views from the room.

Here on business with a meeting followed by a dinner. Great attention to detail from our host, Sean who was attentive and helpful all the way through the afternoon and evening. Great food and flexible on dietary needs. Thanks all you made the meeting go so well

« Not the best, but decent enough »

Hotel was easy to find and the parking was good. Receptionist and general staff were all very friendly. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean. Beds were very comfy and the shower room was easy to operate and worked well. Room facilities were overall very good. negative points: The wifi didn't work on the top floor, which was annoying as we had to watch some videos for work to prepare for presentations. The walls were paper thin and we were stuck next to some crazy lady who seemed to spend every evening skyping her cat, which made it hard to relax The restaurant was rubbish and the bar was just as bad. Drinks were very expensive, and the staff even recommended going down the road for a beer as it was half the price! Add to that the fact they had no music and the tv was never on. The hotel was fine enough, but is quite dated and could do with a revamp sometime soon.

« Classic style and service »

The Queens hotel is housed in an old building that still has a certain class to it. There are some elements that need a bit of a revamp, however, generally I found it well maintained and appointed. The level of cleanliness was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is ideally located for the city centre and universities. For breakfast there was a wide range of food; continental and the traditional fry-up.
