"Average but tiny bar area"

3
14/11/2018

The hotel is average - nothing really awful except the tiny tiny tiny bar area which only seats about 10 people and smells heavily and unappetisingly of the food from the adjacent restaurant section- nothing really great either. Not sure whether I would come back.

"Weekend away"

12/11/2018

We stayed here recently whilst in dundee to attend a friends wedding. Our room was quite basic but perfectly adequate. Thought it would be noisy due to there being a wedding at the hotel but it wasn't too bad.

"Highly recommended"

12/11/2018

This is a very comfortable hotel with immaculately clean rooms and a very high standard of service. We stayed for two nights and cannot fault the service and the room, we found it to be very good value for money. The breakfast was tasty and a good start for the day, the quality and selection of food was excellent. If you do not fancy driving to Dundee city center, It is 45 minute walk to the center and there is a bus stop outside the hotel.

"Another great stay"

05/11/2018

We have used this hotel because we require a handicap room the Invercarse is an outstanding example of what a hotel should be. The room is great a large comfortable bed a well equipt wet room bathroom. The foods good the staff exceptional, a great breakfast what more could you ask we booked direct through the Best Western website being members we got a good rate. Recommend this hotel as a great place to stay. We will definitely be back .. ! Thanks to all the staff

"Good value"

05/11/2018

Overall this hotel is good value for money. The public areas are traditionally decorated to a good standard and the food in the restaurant is good and reasonably priced. It also has nice views out towards the River Tay. The buffet breakfast is decent with hot and cold options. Only negative on the food front is that the restaurant closes at 9pm. That seems a bit early and a little silly considering you are a couple of miles away from the city centre. It's fair to say that people staying here, are likely to be eating here. I noticed more than a few people turned away only a few minutes after 9. With all that said, the staff were great, providing local take away options/contact numbers etc. Staff on the whole were very accommodating and pleasant to deal with throughout our stay I have to say. The room itself was clean and comfortable albeit the taste in decor is a little old fashioned/dated. The bathroom in particular looked like it could do with a bit of a makeover. I have stayed here before and the room was much better that time I have to say. It had a large walk in shower but this time around the shower was over the bath which looked a little on the old side, and the shower pressure wasn't particularly strong. Otherwise the room allowed for a decent nights sleep and had all the amenities required for an overnight stay. I would probably stay here again if i managed to get a good enough deal, but I would also consider one of the many alternatives nearby, particularly given the restricted restaurant hours at the Invercarse.

"Lovely hotel with great food"

01/11/2018

This was a nice hotel, near to town with clean, comfortable rooms. The food was good too - I particularly enjoyed High Tea. The only downside (in October) was that the heating did not come on until 5pm - so it was a bit too cool for me when I arrived. There is a fantastic ballroom in the hotel for events.

"Saturday night fun"

5
31/10/2018

Decided to eat out on Saturday night and after much deliberation decided to chance our luck and try the Invercarse. We were happy to be seated on arrival and have no bad words to say about our visit. The food was delicious and would go back to eat again but the highlight of my visit was the service we received. We were served by a waitress, who if I remember correctly, was called Olivia. She made us feel welcome and gave us everything we would need. If you are thinking about visiting here I would urge you to go, with amazing food and amazing staff what more could you want!

"Good Value"

30/10/2018

We were looking for somewhere cheap and clean to just put our heads down before visiting the V&A in Dundee the next day. This hotel met our expectations. There was plenty of parking and we were met by friendly staff. The room was warm, clean, with a comfortable bed - a good stop over. The price reflects the fact that its location is about 2.5 miles west of Dundee centre.

"Great stay. Would return to this hotel"

28/10/2018

We stayed here for the weekend with our family of two young boys. We got a lovely, clean, quiet, spacious family room. The bed was superb. So comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful - the woman at the check in desk couldn't do enough to help us find a local restaurant that could give us a table at short notice when we arrived. Breakfast was great with a good selection. No greasy fry ups here.

"Friendly and Welcoming Hotel"

4
28/10/2018

We attended a Charity Dinner at the Invercarse and managed to secure a reasonable rate for an overnight stay. The welcome was warm and friendly and the room was spotlessly clean and well appointed with all the accessories you would expect. The furniture is rather tired and in need of refurbishing/replacing but this did not distract from our stay. Dinner at the event was very good and, considering the numbers involved, service was fast and efficient. The only criticism was that the cheese boards and half full bottle of wines were removed from tables before the event had concluded. Despite bringing this to the attention of the waiting staff they were not returned. Breakfast was buffet style served in the Redwood Lounge with magnificent views over the river Tay. The various dishes were kept topped up by the friendly breakfast chef. Overall a very enjoyable stay enhanced by the friendly and cheery staff throughout the hotel.

"RESTAURANT REVIEW"

25/10/2018

We enjoyed being seated with a great view of the River Tay, service was prompt and efficient, menu choice was not extensive but main course food was OK and priced competitively. Dessert prices seemed expensive for portion sizes.

A very pleasing comfortable room . Customer service excellent . No problems at all . Breakfast very good and warm plates too 10/10 for having them . Evening meal very good plus presentation too . Would return again without hesitation .

"Absolutely love this hotel, returning customer. Excellent staff, excellent views of River Tay and great location."

20/10/2018

Returning customer, would not stay anywhere else in Dundee/Tayside area. Staff are excellent... so friendly and approachable, nothing too much trouble. The hotel rooms have been updated since our last stay.... Our suite was stunning!!!! Well done!!! The food is outstanding and the views of the River Tay/hotel garden are stunning. Great choice for breakfast. Great location too. Cannot fault this hotel..... Second to none! It's an absolute pleasure/treat staying here, will definitely be returning. Thank you to all staff for making our stay fantastic. Alison and Steve.

"Three on a road trip."

20/10/2018

Booked one night but could have stayed longer. The rooms are very comfortable and large. We had an evening meal in their restaurant and the food was of good quality and well prepared. A nice view out of the restaurant. Breakfast was buffet help yourself with plenty of choice. Staff were attentive and polite. When we stayed there was a wedding reception but this did not interfere with the other guests nor was it to noisy for other guests. All in a nice comfortable stay.

"Redwood Restaurant only"

5
11/10/2018

The younger restaurant staff need training on engaging with customers when taking and serving orders. Most lunchtime diners were over 60 and the use of appropriate language could be improved in this lovely restaurant.

"Lovely Hotel"

10/10/2018

2nd visit the the Invercarse, and we weren't disappointed. We had a family room in the new extension, the room was a good size (2 adults and a teenager) the beds very comfortable and overall a very pleasant room. Impressed by the restaurant at both breakfast and evening meals, enjoyable food and every member of staff we met both in the restaurant and throughout the rest of the hotel, was lovely. Overall, I would highly recommend. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars was the warmth of the rooms: Dundee in September is not roasting hot, but our room was. That being said, would I return. Yes I would!

"Great customer service"

5
04/10/2018

When we arrived we were given a room upstairs but I requested a lower ground room instead because my wife was disabled. The reception team was able to change our room quickly and with no fuss. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent, food was really good; helped with the beautiful views from the restaurant. Would book again on next visit to Dundee.

"Very good hotel just outside Dundee city centre......."

5
01/10/2018

Helpful staff, nice bar area, beautifully finished rooms in the new wing. I would happily stay here again, and would happily recommend it to anyone else. It will be my first hotel of choice next time I'm in Dundee.

"well worth a visit"

30/09/2018

WE got asked to move from a nearby best western hotel by the very nice receptionist Sylvia who did us a fantastic deal and it worked out great. Rooms in the new extension are sparkly clean with great king size beds and huge smart tv,s We had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good indeed and not too pricey. Great view over the Tay and rather busy which is always a good sign. Breakfast is buffet style but very good quaility and piping hot.

"Bathrooms need a major upgrade"

3
19/09/2018

Stayed one night for a wedding at the start of August. Our wedding was elsewhere but pretty central for where we needed to be. upon arrival, the heating was clearly at full temperature - it was boiling! The room was small, but fine, carpet was dirty though and the bathroom was horrible. When we returned from our wedding, the wedding which was on at the hotel was very noisy with guests outside shouting and swearing. Wouldn't stay here again.

"Nice hotel, free parking, room a bit small but excellent restaurant with views"

4
18/09/2018

My friend and I had booked to stay at the Invercarse some months before we actually stayed and were able to secure a reasonable rate for the night. It was cheaper than the local Premier Inn so that is why we chose it. We also wanted to be close to Dundee airport which is only 5 mins down the road from here. It is also in striking distance of the Discovery Centre and V&A. The large car park is accessed from the main road at the front and is free which is a bonus. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and friendly and there is a nice atmosphere in the lobby and restaurant area. My room (104) was a little small (as you can see by the pictures) but for one person it was adequate. There was no view out of any of the windows and there was an annoying air conditioning unit that started up around 5:30 in the morning just outside the bathroom window so if you are looking for a quiet nights sleep, room 104 is not for you. The restaurant for me was the highlight of the hotel. The views out of the 'wall of windows' to the front of the hotel is breath-taking and they have really made the most of their hotel view. I suspect in the summer it gets very busy here. The staff were hugely efficient and on their game and service was excellent. The range of food on the menu was wide and varied and the portions were quite large. I had a curry which was very tasty. Breakfast was OK. however I did not like the idea of a flat rate for it. I would expect a different price for hot breakfast vs continental. But the food and drink on offer was very good. I asked if they would allow me to take my breakfast with me (doggy bag) and the hotel were happy to oblige. Overall I liked the hotel and the people who work there. I would stay there again but I would like a better room next time, facing the river Tay. One point to note, the last remaining seaman who served on HMS Victory ended his days at the property onsite. There is a commemoration in the lobby by the reception.

"Lovely and comfortable stay"

17/09/2018

We where in Dundee overnight to visit family friends and the new v&a... We chose to have somewhere a bit out of the city centre as we knew it would be so busy the invercarse ticked that box... The hotel is beautiful we had a lovely warm welcome from reception we arrived a little early for check in so enjoyed a light lunch in the sunny conservatory the food was tasty. We then got a little early check in at 1.30pm idea as we where tired so could relax before our busy night. The room was in the extension and was very modern bright but cosy at the same time, clean tidy and all equipped for what we needed. The bed was very comfy and we did have a view out to the river tay, we ordered room service which consisted of sandwiches and snacks when home and where accommodated well staff wherever you happy and pleasant when delivering to our room, we had a great sleep. We would stay again and wished we opted for 2 nights that time.

"Best Western Invercarse"

08/09/2018

We stayed at the Best Western Invercarse for two nights in a king room. Both the room and bathroom were beautiful and there was a full bathtub and shower. We booked with a full Scottish breakfast which was very good. There were hot and cold offerings and you could order eggs and some other hot items as well. The location is about a 10 minute drive or cab ride to the city centre so it is a bit out of the way if you want to be close to the city centre. We had a beautiful view of the water from the hotel. Like many other older hotels, there are a lot of stairs which can make it difficult to get luggage to the room. We enjoyed our stay.

"Worst staff and location "

2
03/09/2018

This hotel wins the award of the most useless and unhelpful staff! Their favorite word is NO, along with NoT Possible! The facilities are really on the just acceptable level. The rooms are small, everything seems to have put together at the last minute. The cleanliness level of everything is below average, this includes, plates, silverware, towels, carpets well, about everything really. But the staff....NOT acceptable The plate with the eggs is just coming from the kitchen, you might see that the plate is anything but clean, and the staff does not care. Stay clear ! You have a bit of a view from the conservatory, but this is only from there.

"Lovely break away"

02/09/2018

We stayed for 2 nights as a family of 3 and were immediately impressed. From the moment we were greeted at reception to when we checked out, we couldn't have asked for more! Rooms have been that recently updated you can still smell the new carpet. They are immaculately clean and hugely spacious even with the sofa bed set up. The bathroom is modern and a nice addition to the room with the walk in shower. A good nights sleep was had by all of us. The restaurant offered high tea which we thought was a lovely touch and all the food was delicious. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and the staff were all lovely and efficient. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hotel considering it's only a 3 star and couldn't have asked for a better stay. We will definitely be back!

"Great hotel"

26/08/2018

Me and my husband have just returned from a weekend here and it was brill. We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and was given a room upgrade which we thoroughly appreciated. The food both breakfast and evening meal was lovely, the waitresses in both the bar and restaurant were lovely and couldnt do enough for us, drinks prices reasonable, our room was spotless, location was ideal as we headed to Glasgow for a day. The views onto the river Tay are stunning. The hotel was excellent for the price we had paid. Only 1 small fault was 1 of the receptionists wasnt very helpful, never gave out any information on the hotel and we had to ask later on how to book evening meal and what time breakfast was, we did eventually find this info in a bedside drawer in our room. Would definately stay here again. Thanks again.

A very nice hotel. Not perfect of course, but excellent value for money and nice staff. As an older hotel there are signs the rooms could do with an update, but considering the low cost and lovely location, this can been forgiven.

Its a suitable place if you find yourself in Dundee for some reason.. The breakfast is great and the rooms are recently renovated. Facilities are great. Stealing one point from full marks due to non central location and a slightly impolite front desk. No grudges though.. our stay was extremely comfortable.

"We had a family wedding at the Invercarse hotel on Friday 10th August. The staff, food and hotel was fabulous."

5
13/08/2018

Our room was a family room. Very spacious and had everything we required. Our large king size bad was very comfortable. The twin room provided space for our grandsons. On a negative note we were near the ballroom and it was a little noisey from the smokers from the wedding chatting outside.

"A Visit to Dundee"

5
11/08/2018

The purpose of our visit to Dundee was to return the ashes of my mother back to Scotland. After placement of the remains we took a tour of the city and visited a number of addresses where relatives used to reside. All very interesting and revealing. The hotel provided a welcome location for such a journey.

"Surprisingly good "

10/08/2018

We stayed here on business during a trade show. Overall, we were rather surprised at this hotel! The rooms are large and modern and the hotel in general is rather nice. The views from breakfast/restaurant were great! Breakfast it's self was tasty enough. Service was pleasant and there is plenty of free parking. I'd say this is one of the nicest BW hotels I've stayed in. Would return.

"Went to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival"

09/08/2018

As it was difficult to get a hotel in Edinburgh we opted to stay the night in Dundee, this hotel is a gem, we were in a room for disabled guests and we were amazed at the space, the size of the bed - must be a super king size and the television was huge. The toilet was fabulous, it was well equipped with a walk in shower with chair and it would easily accommodate someone in a wheelchair. Breakfast was tasty but beware the hot plates - use a napkin! The only downside was the walk from reception to our room, there were so many steps with the room almost at the end of the corridor and the surly receptionist on duty in the morning when we checked out. Really nice receptionist Nicola, booked us in, she was very friendly and was very helpful. We would stay here again, the view from the lounge and restaurant is amazing.

Great hotel, lovely location within easy reach of the city centre and right beside the airport. The room was very comfortable and I enjoyed my stay. I will definitely use this hotel again, as I will be making frequent trips to this location.

"Family pit stop for a night then travelled further north ."

07/08/2018

Breakfast lovely ... you can ask for poached eggs , fresh porridge free of charge. Got some lovely extras in the room , hot chocolates and short breads and some toiletries and sewing kit etc. The family room was a lovely size . Two separate rooms in one . The main bed was huge and could fit 3 adults in easily. A very scenic path along the river to walk/run . Right next to a large Tesco express , botanical gardens and coffee shop.. The view from the restaurant is lovey straight over the river . Request a window table ... lovey little Scottish touches such as tablet on the menus . Room service available also..

Lovely old house in stunning location overlooking river Tay. Stay was marred by noise unfortunately from celebratory function in ballroom beside our room. Staff are fab, very helpful and do their best

28/07/2018

This is a nice hotel with basic amenities. The rooms are basic but clean. No lift to rooms. Parking is a considerable distance from hotel entrance. Would stay again if needed to but wouldn't go out of my way to get here.

"Heat wave"

4
26/07/2018

It wasn't extremely hot outside however our room seemed somewhat of a sauna! The hotel staff gave us a fan. The room was clean, quite small but fine for what we needed. The shower could be better, not much pressure from it so struggled to wash hair. Staff very pleasant. Restaurant menu looked appealing but never ate in it.

"Weekend treat"

22/07/2018

Our first experience of this hotel was an overnight stop on the way to Aberdeen for a family funeral and since we arrived at 21:45 and departed at 08:30 the following morning, we promised ourselves that we would visit again as were impressed with the hotel and wanted to explore Dundee.

"Great place, great position but breakfast staff let it down"

4
17/07/2018

Waitress at breakfast let the whole experience down - other staff were very friendly and professional. We were told breakfast was finished when we arrived 10 minutes before it was meant to end and told we could have the leftovers - no offer of toast or pastries. She walked off and started putting food away and never spoke to us again. We were very disappointed after having a lovely nights sleep in this quiet comfortable hotel - I recommend the hotel but I am not sure I would go back.

"Creaky hall floorboards & banging doors = poor night sleep"

3
12/07/2018

The room was a good size albeit with a window overlooking the car park access road. The bed comfortable if a tad hot in the Dundee heatwave. The bathroom clean. Alas there were 3 nights of wedding parties and with that came a fairly constant passage along the hall with its loud creaking floorboards and heavy shutting fire door. Plus the odd loud "goodnight" as guests dispersed to their rooms. Hence not good for peaceful sleeping on any night. The buffet breakfast was varied (hot and cold choices including cheeses) and pleasant with well cooked food. Lovely bread, quality jam and marmalade. Extra choice of hot food available too. Be good if the outside terrace wood tables were cleaned and cigarette stubs removed before breakfast. We chose to sit out one morning for breakfast to enjoy view. We stayed 3 nights. Am not sure the room was hoovered mid stay. Very convenient location for the botanical gardens. If the hallway issue is fixed so one can sleep without disturbance, I would stay again.

"Disappointed "

1
12/07/2018

Out looking for the Maggies Penguins today and one was I the grounds of the hotel. So thought we would stop for a coffee etc The coffee was so week that it half way through you could see the bottom of the cup. The hot chocolate looked like dish water. While asking for all the trimmings on the hot chocolate, the staff was a tad rude and said nothing - which in a hotel you'd think there would be at least cream ????

"Great Hotel and Friendly Staff!"

08/07/2018

Just home from a two day break staying at this hotel. Stay was great, staff very friendly and food was great too (especially bacon and sausages for breakfast). There was a wedding on each night and we didn't hear a thing. The room (210) that we had was great also - good size with large bathroom (seemingly it has an adjoining room if required). Beds were VERY comfortable too. All in a great stay into the bargain we had booked it at a very special rate as advertised on tv. Would definitely like to return one day!

27/06/2018

I recently stayed here whilst away on business and had been recommended by a colleague. On arrival there is a car park to the rear of the property with plenty of parking which was a great plus. Checking was OK not over welcoming staff and the room was a nightmare to get too lots of steps. The room was dated and looked like it needed an update.really large bed which again was another plus. My TV constantly lost signal which was annoying. I asked for a menu for room service but there was nothing really on there that i wanted,so i went out to eat. My room was on the front so really noisy with everyone passing by the entrance. I had reasonable night sleep. Breakfast was good I thik for the price i paid i expected better from a Best Western!

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Thank for your recent review. I am surprised to read your comments regarding the standard of decor in your room. All of our rooms have undergone refurbishment in the last 3 years. I will investigate the issues with the TV in your room. I do apologise that there were no items on our menu which were to your taste. Hopefully this will not deter you from considering us for accommodation when you are next in the city.

"Disappointed"

25/06/2018

We appreciate that the room we were given was a 'budget room', but were surprised at how small it actually was. The double bed was hard up against a wall, meaning that if the person on the inside needed up during the night they had to climb over the person on the outside. Unsatisfactory! This room should be a single, not a double room. What really spoiled our stay however was the fact that our room (104) had air conditioning/heating ducting just outside both the bathroom, and the bedroom windows. This meant that we were disturbed regularly throughout the night with the noise of its workings. We tried shutting the windows, but the room became uncomfortably warm very quickly. We had been at a wedding in Dundee on the Thursday, and had a function in Glasgow the next day. This was why we stayed over, to get a good night's sleep! It turned out to be the opposite. We spoke to one of the housekeeping staff the next day. On being told which room we had stayed in she said " Oh that room's a nightmare"! That just about summed up our feelings. The young lady, who was duty manager the next morning when we were checking out, was very sympathetic. She said she would remove the cost of our breakfast from our bill, and inform the General Manager of our comments. Whilst appreciating the gesture, the point is that our night's sleep was completely ruined, and our next day suffered accordingly. The point I made at check out was that I have worked in hotel management for a number of years, and rather than having to offer any kind of compensation after the event, the hotel should only offer that room to a guest if they have made it clear that their sleep will be disturbed. Management MUST know that there is a problem with it.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Thanks for your review following your recent stay. I apologise that your room was not of the standard that you had expected. I have personally looked into the issues surrounding noise from the vents outside your room and these have been addressed to prevent reocurrence. We have noted your feedback and will be reviewing the usage of the room in question. I hope that this experience would not deter you from any future visit.

A two night stay in a hotel we had driven by many times, and finally had a reason to stay. Glad we did. It is a well run and comfortable hotel set in lovely grounds . Well set up for functions with a big freshly surfaced car park ( I noted 4 or 5 electric car charging points so keeping pace with developments). The small double room was nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed First night we ate there as well .....excellent quality and well presented , the fish platter in particular. All breakfast items lovely, fresh raspberries especially enjoyable, and the best hotel toaster i've come across!. Staff well trained and very efficient . Don't hesitate to book this hotel.

Staff were great particularly a young lady Olivia who served me during dinner on the sat and then breakfast on the Sunday!! She was great, welcoming and professional and nothing was too much trouble for her made my stay very enjoyable!!

Very pleasant stay, good staff. Nice hotel, pleasant grounds. Staff helpful and polite. Room was excellent, Breakfast was good, assuming you use 2 plates! (small plates provided!) Prompt taxi service into town when requested at reception. Overall a good stay, though only one night.

This hotel is in a lovely location overlooking the river Tay. Sat in conservatory area to work on some papers and it was bright and comfortable. Small double room on side of hotel. Clean and quiet even though hotel was very busy. Good dinner menu and lovely breakfast. Staff all very helpful.

Prior to departing from Dundee on Baltic Cruise, we stayed overnight at this beautifully refurbished hotel. From reception staff to bar staff and waitresses, everyone was extremely polite and courteous and made us feel very welcome despite the fact that a very large wedding party had arrived! Not only did the company provide a courtesy car to take us to the seaport, they also allowed us to park at the hotel free of charge, for the first week of the cruise with a nominal charge applied the second week. We felt our holiday really began the moment we stepped into reception. No hesitation in either returning or recommending this hotel to others.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear June, Thank you for your review about your pre-cruise stay with us at the hotel. I was delighted to read how much you enjoyed your visit and that your holiday started when you checked in with us! Hopefully you can stay with us if you are ever sailing again from Dundee. We happened upon this establishment totally by chance and were thrilled that we did. We extended our initial 2 day stay to 5 days because we discovered that this location was exactly what we needed for driving day trips. The friendly and accommodating staff at the hotel (Suzy, Daryl, Charlie and Michelle) were great ambassadors for the hotel, Dundee, and Scotland. We hope to return to Scotland in the future and this would be our first choice for a place to stay.

First time here, and warmly welcomed, great service and the dining room has a view to die for over the silvery Tay river. Food is reasonably priced and served with a smile. Wide choice and not long to wait. Also a nice quiet lounge next to the dining area.

19/05/2018

Stayed here for an appointment I had in Dundee. Reception staff where friendly and the decor was pleasant. Room was comfy and everything you want from a hotel room. The food in the restaurant was decent hotel pub food with good portions. Only let down was the service. The team seemed badly organised only seemed to be one person bussing tables and the rest moaning about things. It's always a put of when you here staff openly slag each other off. This was the only down side to a very pleasant stay.

I was doing a course in ninewells hospital and booked this Best Western because of its proximity to the hospital. I was pleasantly surprised, although very much a three star hotel, it is clean, the rooms spacious, the beds comfortable and the hotel has recently been renovated. There is a nice view of the Tay from the bar, the tea and coffee in the room was much appreciated, with short bread biscuits to accompany. The rooms have an iron, ironing board, ample storage, a nice flat screen tv, free wi fi and ample wardrobe space. Check in staff were friendly and helpful. The only improvement I would suggest is that for £75 per night, a small breakfast should have been included, other than this I can not fault this hotel and would recommend it

Best Western are trying hard here. The hotel enjoys a quiet, secluded location overlooking the River Tay to Fife. The grounds and interior are impressive and well-kept and they're investing in improvement. We were given an upgrade into a very comfortable, nicely-furnished and spacious room in a new extension. Only slight problem was they're working on the car park outside which was pretty intrusive in the morning. We opted to have our evening meal in the hotel. For pre-dinner drinks I asked for a Campari and received a curt (that's how it sounded to me anyway) "We don't have Campari!" No apology, no suggestion about a possible alternative. Not a good start. One of the most popular pre-dinner drinks in the world isn't available. I wish I could meet whoever it was who decided that serving food on planks and slates was a good idea. It has started a fashion parade trend in food presentation. No planks or slates here but my haddock goujons and scampi came in a wire basket, the peas were in a ramekin with the tartare sauce in another. All served on a plate "lined" with a "Good Food News" mock newspaper. All looked impressive but, of course, the first thing you do is decant all this onto the plate whereupon you're left with an assortment of empty receptacles that were never cleared from the table. It doesn't take long for the grease from the fish batter to soak into the newspaper which then starts to disintegrate and you worry about how much is ending up mixing with the food. I suggested to the waitress that diners be offered the option of food served in the traditional way, ie on the plate. My wife's beef stew was a little short on beef, and of that which was there, there was a bit of gristle. Breakfast was good and relaxed. I'd have given this three and a half stars as I'd rate the overall experience 7 out of 10, but, with attention to detail at dinner this would have been a four instead of a three.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your recent review following your stay at the hotel. I am glad that you found our new rooms and restaurant to be as lovely as we do. Thank you for your feedback. Yours sincerely,

We were lucky enough to receive a free upgrade to a newly opened wing, which no doubt enhanced our good experience. Nevertheless I would recommend this hotel for being clean, quiet and having good views from the restaurant. The food is good quality and value.

"Lunch with a friend."

27/04/2018

Went for lunch to take in the alterations that have been done to the hotel's restaurant. Having experienced the restaurant many times in the past I was curious to see what had been done. I also enjoyed the food there and the excellent service. Our table was at the very front next to the large glass windows offering a great view over the River Tay. However being there on a sunny day it was rather warm and some ventilation would have been good. A small matter nevertheless which did not spoil the occasion. The restaurant makeover has been a success looking fresh and ready for the future.

I would definitely recommend his hotel to anyone wanting to stop in Dundee for pleasure or business.

"A Hidden Gem"

16/04/2018

I stayed in this hotel with family and I have to say it is a hidden gem. The hotel is located a short drive from the city centre in a very quiet and peaceful location. We had a family room which consisted of two bedrooms and a bathroom and these were very spacious, comfortable and had all the amenities that we required. The whole hotel is stylishly decorated and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was buffet style, delicious and beautifully laid out. There is a large car park to the rear of the hotel. I had never stayed at this hotel before but I certainly will again, great value.

"Not great"

2
07/04/2018

The Invercarse is unpredictable. As a fairly regular visitor we've enjoyed some pretty decent fair, but on this occasion it was definitely at the lower end of decent. Why? Contributory is probably the worst beef bourguignon I've ever had with veg on the firm side of al dente - in fact inedible. And across out table, a rather unconvincing, "it was ok" reaction, with one muttering of salmon cakes lacking salmon. The makeover has been a big success - but if the food is at the lower end of average, then those full tables, won't be full for much longer. And as for a previous reviewer suggesting 'Super Tasty Food' - is this the unpredictability coming through or evidence of someone who needs to get out more?

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. It is disappointing to read your comments regarding your lunch experience at the hotel. This is certainly not the usual standard of food which we serve in our new restaurant as I am sure you can attest to, being a regular visitor. I have passed on your comments to our Head Chef. You are correct that our Restaurant has been much busier and indeed continues to be, with the vast majority of feedback being extremely positive. However, we welcome feedback of any kind and your comments have been noted. Yours sincerely,

Haven't been to The Invercarse since the refurb had finished so thought we would nip in for some dinner. Restaurant is lovely and modern, was busy when we arrived but still had a table overlooking the Tay. Waitress was polite and the food was fantastic! We ordered pulled pork croquettes then the steak burger and skirlie stuffed chicken. They did not disappoint. Will certainly be back!

"Disappointing lunch"

2
01/04/2018

Having often visited the Invercarse previously, it was decided to take my father in law ( +my wife, brother in law and wife and their son) for his 94th birthday lunch. What a disappointment. We were made welcome and a table for 6 was made up with good views of the Tay. Unfortunately that is where it went downhill - the waitresses were appropriately dressed in black ( it might as well have been a funeral since not one smile was forthcoming for the whole time). The food was reasonably prompt but that was the last we saw of them until collection time and that was carried out in funereal silence - no enquiries re more drinks or satisfaction with meal. My salmon fishcakes (sadly missing any sign of salmon) were over crisply fried and the chicken who had laid my fried egg had done so in vain - it was way overcooked and dry. This was unlike the veg in the 2 beef bourguignon - the basis of the meal was beef and carrots so what we're the 'seasonal veg'?-carrots! but they were rock hard unlike the 2 pieces of swede (?) that had dissolved in the ample supply of gravy. Having said that and pushing the carrots to one side the meal was reasonably tasty. The burger meal was acceptable , one meal was a salad and thankfully did not need 'cooking'. My father in law had his statutory fish and scampi in batter and ,at 94, did not discern that the batter was somewhat overcooked also (unlike the accompanying pale fries). In view of the explanation that would have been required to non-existent waitresses and the worry it would have caused him, we did not attempt to send anything back. Eventually the plates were cleared and menus reappeared in a pile in the middle of the table for dessert choices - 3 desserts and 3 coffees were forthcoming which were satisfactory. Indeed one of the waitresses kindly offered to cut the birthday cake we had brought but arrived with it cut into superslim slices which had been cut straight across the cake from both ends rather than the usual 'from the middle' which provided two stubby pieces and 4 long ones! Overall , rather disappointing and even my father in law noticed the long faced waitresses. The return visit with other family visitors arranged for the weekend was hastily rescheduled!

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review following your lunch at the hotel. I was disappointed to read your comments regarding both the food and service in our new restaurant. I understand that on the day you dined with us, we had a very busy restaurant and served around 80 covers at lunch. Our Beef Bourguignon and Salmon Fishcakes are two of our most popular lunch items and I am not aware of any other adverse feedback regarding these dishes on the Saturday you visited. It is disappointing that you did not bring these issues to the attention of the staff and manager on duty who would have ensured that these matters were addressed. I have passed on all of your feedback to our Head Chef and to the waiting staff who were on duty. We always take on board constructive criticism as it helps us to continue to hold our high standards of both food and service. However, I do feel that your comments regarding the cutting of the cake rather unfair, as not every restaurant would offer to provide this service on such a busy occasion. Yours Sincerely,

"Good weekend stay and wedding venue"

26/03/2018

Enjoyed a two night stay at the Invercarse Hotel. The room was as described in the website, it was compact but ideal for a short stay, with hairdryer, iron and ironing board, tea coffee making facility and wall mounted TV, but no fridge. The bathroom had a walk in shower and I particularly liked that there was a shelf for toiletries. The shower gel and hand wash was in wall mounted bottles rather than miniature sized bottles, as in some hotels. Sufficient towels on the heated towel rail and information that additional towels could be requested. Free wifi and parking was available. The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and friendly. There was a lovely view from the Redwood Restaurant. I had the buffet breakfast two mornings, which I enjoyed and found the buffet was replenished, as and when required, without having to ask. In addition to the scrambled eggs on the buffet, there was the option to have freshly cooked eggs of your choice. Dinner in the restaurant was good. I would have liked more vegetarian options and for vegetarian meals to be identified on the menu, although staff were willing to check if the meal was suitable for a vegetarian. The hotel was a lovely venue for the wedding, The staff provided a very good service for the wedding meal and serving drinks. There is a good sized dance floor in the ballroom. The hotel is on a bus route, which is convenient for getting into the city centre. The staff were very helpful in explaining where to get on and off the bus. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Botanic Gardens. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

"Good Dinner Dance"

5
20/02/2018

Guest at business dinner in function suite. Good night had by all. Fine set up and house band Eat The Peach were excellent keeping us on dance floor most of night. Food was fine as was service but perhaps some of the younger members of staff needing a little more practice in serving skills. Function suite and facilities good but perhaps needing a little tlc in areas or a little freshen up in decor Very enjoyable evening, can see why Invercarse remains popular still

"Recent refurbishment – good in parts, poor in others"

3
13/02/2018

We have used this hotel many times over several years, but this was our first visit since an extensive refurbishment (winter 2017/18) of the public areas and the bedrooms. The public areas have turned out well with the dining / bar area looking fresh and offering an improved view over the river Tay. The bedrooms are another story. Premier Inn style ‘open wardrobes' with no drawer space (the small drawer that does exist contains a hairdryer and hotel guide). An ironing board is hung on the back of the bathroom door – not pretty. The lighting (in room 109) was very poor, positioned in such a way as to cast a shadow over the desk and the mirror above, rendering them almost useless. Not well thought out and probably designed down to a price rather than for comfort. To be fair the bathroom was good, although limited shelf space left little room for personal stuff. On the bright side the food is excellent and the staff friendly. But sadly we will think twice before staying again.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear RHM Stirling, Thank you for your recent review following your stay at the hotel. I am glad that you found our new restaurant to be as lovely as we think it is. I am sorry that you did not like the design and style of our refurbished bedrooms. We did ask our designer to plan these to be more modern with clean lines and more floor space. However, I will look into the lighting in the room in which you stayed. I would hope that this would not deter you from visiting the hotel again in the future. "Passing through Dundee"

04/02/2018

This hotel has been here for many years - before my student days 40 years ago. Currently being extended. Its comfortable enough, the breakfast was average hotel fare.We didn't have dinner but apparently the food is 'ok'. If I was to find criticism, there is very limited seating in the bar area. We ended up sitting at a table in the relatively large restaurant which isn't so relaxing. Maybe they should enlarge the bar and shrink the restaurant slightly. Also, there was a very poor choice of beer at the bar. Most bars these days are able to offer a variety of draft ales but here there is only a small choice of mass produced beers. So, neither a great hotel or a bad hotel. Good location for the west end of Dundee.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear topdoc55, Thank you for your recent review. I was disappointed to read your comments regarding the food you had during your stay in particular our breakfast as we regularly receive excellent feedback about our extensive breakfast buffets. I do take on board your points regarding the seating in the lounge. This is something we are actively looking into to improve. Hopefully you would not be deterred from visiting again soon. Brilliant stay at a lovely hotel, the hotel was situated at the side of the town with a beautiful sea view from the restaurant. So, we left it late to book for the Hogmany Dinner Party. Normal for us. Great welcome reception with Prosecco and canapés. Fanstastic service during the 4 course Dinner. Well organised and very attentive. The food was outstanding. All cooked and presented very well. The standard at this place is very good. No issues whatsoever. We all had a very enjoyable experience. 05/12/2017

This hotel is great value for money. I was in Dundee to accompany my son for an interview at Dundee University so wanted something relatively cheap, friendly and near the University. Got an excellent price online which included free breakfast. Very friendly staff upon arrival. Clean, modern rooms with large TV (Sky etc.). Unusual to have option of a cooked breakfast when on a cheap deal. And not was as good as any I get in so-called 'high-end' hotels. Would highly recommend

"Only one word EXCELLENT - and ultra close to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee"

5
28/11/2017

I stayed here for 1 night - and really was impressed - to be honest any Hotel that has ' BEST WESTERN' to its name - is going to be really good , I have yet to see one that is shabby , the Hotel was well-decorated , the bedroom was really modern ( and a comfortable bed ) and a terrific bathroom and shower - I also was VERY impressed with my Chicken Burger at night , and my cooked breakfast - I also thought all the staff were very helpful and hard-working .

"A lovely meal in very pleasant surroundings"

5
28/11/2017

Six of us were booked in for lunch to celebrate my mothers 89th birthday. Quite a bit of building work to the rear which took up part of the car park but no problem as it was quiet. Very pleasant interior with a cosy feel. We were warmly greeted by the staff who showed the right amount of attentiveness throughout the meal. The lunch was lovely. We each had a starter and a main course plus drinks and were all very impressed with the menu choice and quality of the ingredients. A very enjoyable experience (especially as my mother paid the bill!)

"Value for Money, Bit Tired but Wonderful Staff"

4
17/11/2017

Stayed for one night to attend a family celebration. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout. The hotel itself is a little dated and felt a little tired but for the price, the hotel and then rooms offer excellent value for money. Overall a good stay and would return.

"Great Venue"

4
13/11/2017

Attending Invercarse at the weekend for my sisters wedding and really enjoyed our stay here. Rooms were lovely and spacious, check in was easy. We had a 9 month only baby and they had put us up on the second floor and when asked if we could move to ground floor they were very accommodating. Staff are friendly and I definitely would stay here again. Only thing I would complain about was the amount of stairs. Even on the ground floor, there is still stairs you need to climb to get to your room, which isn't the easiest when you have a buggy. Apart from that though, great venue.

"Not advised of building work"

1
12/11/2017

We stayed for one night for a work function that was being held in the hotel. We weren't informed any building work would be taking place at 8am in the morning. Hammering and constant banging right outside the window. Half of the window was also covered up with wood outside. I called reception asking why we weren't informed of this whilst checking in, basically got told tough it needs to be done. So not only £105 for a one night stay in a dated room but no discount of the price of the room or complimentary breakfast was offered

Martina W, General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Sel Thank you for your comments. We are currently building a stunning 24 bedroom extension due to open in April 2018. I apologise that you were disturbed by the work. I understand your booking was via Booking.com. We do have notification on this site that building work is taking place. I believe you were given a discount in the morning. Let me Know the next time you stay with us and I'll ensure you will get an upgrade to one of our new rooms. Kind Regards Martina Whiting Director

We have just enjoyed a 2 night stay in this lovely Hotel. The Staff were so welcoming & friendly, from Reception to the Bar & Restaurant Staff. The room was very comfortable & nicely decorated, complementary Tea & Coffee were supplied & it was no problem for the staff to provide 'Fresh Milk' (rather than using the plastic milk !!) We had our Evening meals in the Restaurant (Not a huge menu) & we couldn't fault the food, very good service too ! The Breakfasts were yummy too ! The Hotel is about 2 miles out of Dundee but is in a lovely area & is on the Perth Road, which is on a Bus route, buses run regularly directly into Dundee - Excellent Service. Or if you enjoy walking it is a lovely flat walk into town.We prefer to be staying just on the edge of the city & making our way in, this Hotel may be too far out for some people. We went to the Botanical Gardens which were 5 minutes walk from the Hotel, very nice, lots of Trees and Shrubs from all over the world, not lots of flowering plants, but an enjoyable walk in a peaceful environment (Even though near Dundee Airport !) The Tearoom attached to the Gardens served very nice Tea & scones ! We love this Hotel and will definitely be back ! It 'Ticks all the Boxes' for us They are doing building work at the back of the Hotel, but it didn't bother us at all. 10/10 from us - Excellent

my wife and I stayed at the Invercarse when we visited for a wedding reception nearby , a nice, clean and tidy hotel, nothing to complain about and a very nice breakfast and good staff, a good place to stay the hotel felt a bit dated in places, but the room was clean, bed was fine and a big TV in the room helped. staff were good and helpful. for £85 per night room only, and £11 each for breakfast it may have just been on the expensive side for 1 night, where a B&B may have been as good and a bit cheaper.

Stayed this week for two nights due to my niece wedding within hotel on the Friday. Wow what can I say? from start to finish all hotel staff provided high quality customer service that I could not fault. My room was a double good size looking out into entrance of ballroom where my niece wedding was taking place. Room was bright in décor and newly refurnished with a lovely shower room. Tea/coffee/hot chocolate tray provided with lovely shortbread within my room which was a lovely touch. All staff from housemaids to management were fantastic with our family and nothing was too much bother for them. Staff went above and beyond customer service for my niece wedding day. We could not fault silver service and quality of food was lovely. Waiting staff timing was perfect for over 90 quests during day time and around 80 in evening. Buffet in evening was lovely and well presented by chief and kitchen staff. Bar prices are standard for Perth Road area of Dundee even for wedding function prices were good. I stayed two nights and breakfast in the mornings was lovely and great choice from cold to hot food. Waiting staff were lovely and very attentive. Overall my two nights stay was excellent could not have asked for better and a credit to all Invercarse Hotel staff for their outstanding customer service that I received and not forgetting my niece big wedding day went fantastically well again thanks to Invercarse Hotel staff for their hard work. Highly recommend a stay and highly recommend venue for a wedding. Gorgeous views. Thanks again to all staff for your fantastic hospitality

Checked in and was greeted by a lovely receptionist who was very helpful. On entering the room we were a little disappointed with the size of our room, it would have been ok for one night but as we were staying four nights we felt a bigger room would be better and after speaking to the same receptionist we paid a nominal fee to upgrade. Thank you to her for doing some jiggling. The hotel itself is comfortable and well appointed the dining room has a lovely view over looking the Tay. The eating is relaxed rather than formal. The menu is small and dare I say not very inspiring four nights was enough from this menu although the food served was good. Drinks (ale) in the bar is limited but the Guinness very nice. The staff were excellent they could not do enough for us, I don't like to single anyone out but there was one star who shone through, Lennie so genuine and warm she is an asset to the hotel. Please pass our regards to staff and most of all Lennie

I had one night in Dundee and this hotel was recommended The hotel was very clean and the room modern and well fitted. It was quiet and I had a good night sleep. Staff were pleasant The dining room has a good view. The menu did not inspire me but the burger I ordered exceeded expectations. The house merlot was good. I was disappointed the breakfast was not included in the price

This is for work and I find that booking on the day gets the best rates. The price and standard are much better than Premier Inn, Travel Lodge etc. Breakfast was good, the room was excellent and one of the reception staff (can't remember her name) was in the right job. The other lady was a bit of a sour puss. Food was very reasonably priced, nothing special but good food. The only issue with the breakfast is the menu stated black pudding and haggis but there wasn't any. They are expanding so bookings must outstrip space.

"Good rate while the renovation is ongoing "

3
21/09/2017

Had a pleasant stay for the money, they are extending the hotel that's why I think they are offering the good rate. A few problems being the car park is up the hill which can be awkward if you have a lot of luggage and there is no lift in the hotel. Also I felt the reception staff were unhelpful and not very welcoming on arrival which is unusual in a Scottish hotel. The smoke alarms go off with steam from the shower if you leave the bathroom door open. The restaurant is average and the service slow.

"POOR EXPERIENC"

14/09/2017

the hotel is now getting slightly dated but the building of the new rooms will enhance the appearance to be very quaint and pleasant . the reception staff are very efficient and pleasant but unless you are starving please avoid the breakfast experience as the staff are very lasy and far from pleasant the food was also quite poor especially the srcambled eggs and the choice on the cold area

Sean B, Director at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. The Invercarse Hotel are currently adding a 24 bedroom extension and have plans to refurbish the restaurant in January 2018. Thank you for bringing to my attention details of your breakfast experience. My sincere apologies that this was not up to standard. This matter has been addressed internally. I am confident there will not be any re-occurance. Thank you again. Yours sincerely, Martina Whiting Director

"Nice restaurant - room was ok for one night but tiny"

4
05/09/2017

The title says it all really, we had a nice meal but the room was too small to be comfortable for anyone who needs to unpack anything larger than an overnight case. The room was set up like a basic budget hotel, there was no wardrobe just hangers on a rail, there was no soap in the bathroom just a hand pump on the wall. The bathroom was tiny and most hotels would have a bathroom which is the size of the bedroom and bathroom combination we were given. The reception was pleasant enough and efficient, the hotel car park is next to a building site as they are expanding the hotel so your car may be dusty - if it stays dry long enough in dundee for dust to occur! The restaurant is not intimate or secluded so if you dont like listening to every word your neighbours are saying you may need ear plugs however the food was so good and reasonable i gave the review four stars - On the basis of the Hotel alone it is barely a three....

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review following your recent stay at the hotel. I was disappointed to read the comments regarding the room in which you stayed. I can see that you booked one of our Budget Double Rooms, which by its description means it is one of our basic bedrooms. However, all of our rooms were refurbished between October 2016 and March 2017 and into our Budget Rooms we did install open wardrobes rather than standalone wardrobes to provide guests with more space. We do not provide bars of soap for our guests but do provide complimentary soap from a dispenser and also shower gel and shampoo in the showers. I am also surprised to read your comments about the layout of the restaurant. Our restaurant consists of 2 levels and also includes private booths with bench seating. I am not aware that a guest has ever advised that this is not secluded or intimate. Once again, thank you for your feedback. Yours sincerely, Sean Burke Deputy General Manager

"Cheap and Cheerful"

22/08/2017

This hotel is basic but very clean and tidy. The staff were helpful in the main and pleasant but the hotel is a bit dated. Breakfast service was poor. I was told to just help myself to the breakfast buffet but non of the breakfast menu items that require ordering were offered (eggs to order etc). Maybe due to the hotel being full? The room I was in was right at the back of the hotel where there is considerable building work being undertaken. This meant the room was very noisy. The work started at 7am and finished around 9pm. It is in a good location, it's about 15-20 minute walk into the town centre.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at Best Western Dundee Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your recent review. I do apologise that you encountered construction noise during your stay. We do have a noise curfew so that no work is undertaken prior to 8.00am and finishes no later than 7.00pm. Yours sincerely, Sean Burke Deputy General Manager

"Decent Hotel in a good position"

4
22/08/2017

Had two rooms here as we travelled with family. Both rooms reasonable size, comfortable and well furnished. Bed comfy too. One bathroom had walk in shower, one a shower over bath, both reasonable size and relatively new fittings. Breakfast has good choice and good fresh food. Only ate in the restaurant one evening, menu a bit limited but food was prepared/presented well and service was ok. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Positioned on the edge of Dundee, quite near the Tay bridge so in relatively easy access of St Andrews and the Fife coastline. Only drawback was hotel parking, as they are building a new block of rooms which I presume takes up some of the previous space. Although the car park is a reasonable size, if they have a wedding supper or similar there are not enough spaces if you arrive back in an evening.

"Adequate Hotel"

3
21/08/2017

This review may be a little unfair as this hotel was undergoing construction when we stayed there and it was going on right outside our room. The good news is that, while we arrived early, our room was ready. But the bad news is that while our room was ready there was a luncheon going on in the conference centre and there wasn't a parking spot to be had. It was eventually sorted out once the luncheon was over. This hotel is a typical Best Western. It was adequate but nothing special. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

"Engaging and delightful hotel"

5
12/08/2017

We stayed for one night and had a delicious meal in the restaurant. The kind chef gave me many choices for gluten free and the risotto was amazing and totally yummy. The room was smallish but bed was so comfy and show good. Again the chef cooked me bacon lovely and crispy and perfect poached eggs. The choice at breakfast was varied & good, my husband enjoyed the pastries (he said sadly no black pudding though). Good sized free car park and friendly receptionist who greeted and finished our booking. We shall be returning here again very soon. A genuine Scottish gem of great hospitality.

"A pleasant place to stay"

Easily accessed and not too far from the city centre, the hotel is pleasant and the rooms clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very modern with a large walk-in shower. The restaurant that serves quite traditional local food

"Short stay Hotel"

01/08/2017

The hotel room vas not very spacious. Whilst showering the shower tray overflowed on to the floor. The room was very warm and stuffy. Felt the room was very pricy especially as breakfast was not included. Didn't find the staff very friendly. Wouldn't stay here again.

Clean comfortable place to stay in Dundee, if overnighting or touring the area. It's not a hotel one would spend a day in to relax, but use it as your base with the added advantage of a diningroom with tasty meals and panoramic windows overlooking a lovely garden with a view of the water beyond.

16/07/2017

Stayed here and got a good value on a room for two without breakfast. Pleasant staff and accommodating to requests for help. The rooms were quite small although well equipped including bizarre iron and ironing board configuration on the back of the bathroom door. There was a wedding on the Saturday night which looked it might disturb our sleep but at 11.30 a curfew turned off the noise immediately. Not sure what plans are afoot but it appears that there are significant works in the car park. Overall it was a comfortable experience and good value

Really well positioned for Dundee city centre but situated in a quiet position. Although there was building work at rear of hotel it was no problem as they were finished and started at reasonable times. Really comfy beds, clean room and good facilities. Breakfast was buffet but really fresh cooked food and good selection if you wanted continental.

09/07/2017

This is a really nice looking hotel, the rooms are lovely. There is modern decor and it is all lovely and clean. The beds are very comfortable. The staff are not so great, not very friendly or attentive. The hotel seems to have a problem with noise. You hear fans and buzzing and machinery. I could hear a loud buzzing noise (maybe a hand dryer) going on and off at night.

We are a handicap couple capable of only walking short distances without sitting down. We would like to recommend this hotel as it has excellent facilities for folks like us. They have 2 excellent rooms for handicap guests both with a large comfortable bed and extremely well equip bathroom there is a large walk in shower which we both thought would benefit from the addition of an additional grab bar. The room was immaculate presented. with an excellent Phillips TV and the usual tea and coffee tray. Both rooms have french windows giving easy access to the car park. the wifi is easy to link to and free to access. The staff are excellent nothing is too much bother. The meals are reasonably priced and well presented there is a lot of choice for breakfast fruit, breads cheese, and the usual fried bacon and eggs, the bar is well stocked and there is plenty of staff on hand to assist. They are in the middle of a building extension at present however the work stops at five and the noise generated is tolerable We have stayed in many of the major chain hotels in Dundee however none come close to the Invercarse for comfort or service. - thankyou !

"Excellent for Lunch"

14/06/2017

We had lunch today with friends who were visiting us. We actually stayed next door to the hotel some 30 years ago and had not been back for many years ! The lunch today was first class and enjoyed by the four of us ! Food could not be faulted and the service was excellent. We all had drinks, starters and main courses and the bill only came to £80 !! We shall return very soon.

Lovely high tea this evening at the Invercarse hotel Dundee. Staff friendly, food lovely, and good service. Only criticism, when clearing the table I asked the waitress if I could have coffee instead of tea, she responded 'I only have one pair of hands!! I don't think it was an unreasonable request and as there were only about three tables filled an unnecessary response.

Fantastic hotel, fantastic staff, fantastic location! Definitely a hidden gem, worth discovering. We loved every bit of our stay here, staff couldn't do enough for us. Sadly we were just visiting family briefly so our visit was very short, however we'll deffo be back! Thank you Invercarse x

"Weekend with friends"

07/06/2017

My husband and our friends stayed here for Easter weekend. On arrival check in was quick and we were given the keys to ours rooms which were really lovely. They were freshly decorated and had excellent bathrooms. The bar area is quite small but you could sit in the resteraunt if there wasn't room. The drinks and snacks were very good. Dinner was served in the resteraunt and as we booked with easy breaks we had £20 allowance per person which was fine. The food at dinner was great, they have a very good chef.If you wanted something more you payed the difference. Breakfast was buffet style which was fine and all the cooked items were hot. There was also cereal, fruit, toast etc. We had a lovely stay and we would all visit this hotel again if we were in the area.

05/06/2017

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel last night. It has had very significant room refurbishments and the care and thought that has gone into it is very impressive. I could not fault it in any way and it had everything I required and more. Loads of electric points in the places you would want them - not hidden under a bed etc as often happens! Great coffee/tea/chocolate tray with super shortbread, immaculate and very comfortable beds, spacious, good hanging space with plenty of hangers, good mirrors in room and bathroom ideal for applying make up, shower cap, sewing kit and shoe shine . I was running late and the chambermaids helped me to my room as I had lots of packages with me. Had a red wine night cap and it was a very pleasant house wine. Reception staff were also very helpful and preordered me a cab before I checked in to get to the function. Well done Best Western! Superb value!

22/05/2017

Myself and my partner stayed here on 20th May as we were attending an event at the Whitehall Theatre. The hotel is in a great location and upon arriving the reception staff were incredibly friendly, asking what we were doing that evening etc. We had booked a king room which had a lovely big bed, only downside was the numerous stairs which wld be difficult for anyone with a disability. The only 2 issues were incredibly creaky floor boards in both the room and hallway so you heard every movement and the fact the room was incredibly hot, the radiator was off, although there was a fan in the wardrobe. We didn't have food so can't comment upon this, overall a good stay in a nice hotel.

Another excellent stay at the Invercarse. Rooms recently refurbished; smart and pleasant. Restaurant menu has a good choice and they do a nice full Scottish breakfast. With haggis! Friendly and helpful staff with good local knowledge.

"Fine. Food not good."

23/11/2016

Clean. Not as horribly flowery as some best westerns but still very unstylish and old womanish. Room was small but comfortable. Staff were all very polite and helpful. Views from restaurant are nice. Food in restaurant very odd, cooked well but the ideas behind flavours are terrible. I had the wild bore burger, not horrible, but bizarre and not in a good way. Breakfast was disappointing. Pretty basic. Car parking is good. Overall is fine, but not a huge amount else.

"Not Bad"

19/11/2016

Decent enough hotel with helpful staff. Rooms a bit basic and looked kind of recently refurbished . Bed ok. Breakfast average to to fair with a large selection although I have never seen my favourite haggis in a black pudding shape. and it was dry and not tasty. Very plus point its in quite location and not much noise except for saturdays as they had a function on and lots of screaming kids running around the building not checked by staff. I was lucky enough to have a room away from the function area otherwise it would have been problem for me. Management should not allow the kids to roam unchecked. Overall pleased with the stay

Stayed here on business midweek. Scottish victorian baronial front with an extensive modern back. The room was a single - very compact. The shower room was actually bigger than the main room slightly odd arrangement bit like a students room. However it was bright clean and warm and the bed was very comfortable after a long day. The hotel stops serving food very early so i had to settle for a glass of wine and some nuts. It is situated on the Perth road and there didn't seem much around it. It was a very dark wet night and I didn't feel like going out again. It might be a different experience if there was a function on. Now that I know where it is and not how the tom tom thinks it should be found I would probably stay there again as it has good free parking.

"Could not Fault it!"

13/11/2016

Booked a room only for one night as attending function at the hotel. It was a single room and was pleased and surprised that the bed was a small double. Room was very clean, bathroom adequate and lots of towels. All the things you'd expect - tea/coffee, TV, ironing board etc. Prices varied between sites on internet and when I phoned to book, the price had gone up - but they honoured the price I had just seen. If I'm in Dundee again will definitely be back!

We stayed here last week overnight as had early hospital appointment. Room was fine, staff were very friendly and meal was really nice. Would stay again if had to go to Dundee shopping or anything. Breakfast had a good enough selection.

"Unremarkable"

06/11/2016

I speak as one who has been visiting the Invercarse for very many years indeed- about 43 to be precise stretching back to my under age days but on this recent lunch visit one thought struck me - it's tired. I can't recall the last make over but what I can say is it's long overdue in the bar restaurant area. It's dull, dark and dated. But what was the food like? The consensus view of our party of 3 was that it represented no better than average pub grub - over the years, I've enjoyed better fare. A decent sausage and red onion sauce with slightly dried up mash. But also for a nation of chip lovers why do hotels, pubs etc insist on dishing up the most awful tasteless and frozen morsels? And just to cap it all, two further observations - first the service was pretty tardy (surprising given the number of staff on duty) and next why o why is there a positively archaic practice of only having one Credit card terminal at the hotel reception? Average with a capital A.

Martina W, Director at BEST WESTERN Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Aragon-11 Thank you for your feedback following your recent visit to the Invercarse Hotel, Dundee. I appreciate your honesty. There are two areas of the restaurant. One has been refurbished with new furniture and a full size mural of the local Tay Rail Bridge. Thirty bedrooms are currently being fully refurbished and planning permission has been granted for 24 new bedrooms. Work will begin in the New Year. There is financial investment in the hotel and we will look at the second part of the restaurant for the next stage. Many Thanks Martina Whiting Director

Three colleagues and myself visited Dundee for an conference. We were very pleased with the costumer service and the breakfast. Yummy sausage and other Scottish delights. The room were small but comfortable however updated decor would make the experience a bit better.

"Fine for a 1 night stay"

3
31/10/2016

Compact room but clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee facilities, fine for a 1 night stay, I wouldn't consider it for a longer stay. Dinner was pleasant. Staff were friendly. Quite a few stairs to our room and no lift or offer of help so if carrying your luggage is an issue ask for a ground floor room. We were informed on arrival that breakfast would cost more if we didn't book it then making us feel a bit hassled (we chose not to have breakfast). Lots of on site parking available. Quiet area.

"very helpful receptionist"

5
29/10/2016

Having arrived on a Sunday evening. The wife found she had left her bag behind. Clothes were not a problem but the medication was a big problem. The lady on reception could not do enough to help us get a chemist and speaking to the NHS help desk to sort the problem. With a dash across to Perth we arrived at Asda with 10 to go to closing. An expensive lesson learnt. Back at the hotel the receptionist had upgraded our room due to my loyalty card. The room was pleasant and quiet. Breakfast was the usual fare. After the drama the night before we left well rested. Thanks for the help

"Good hotel"

28/10/2016

Stayed here for one night working near the airport, just over a mile away. Check in is quick and efficient, rooms comfortable with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Plenty of parking available to side and rear of hotel. Food good on an evening in restaurant, breakfast next day very good with superb views over the Tay. Recommended!

"Good"

3
23/10/2016

Arrived in the pouring rain so the trek down from the car park to reception was not so good, but check in was quick and easy which was very good. Bedroom small but nice and well equipped. I like a bathroom with a large shower instead of something over the bath and this did not disappoint! Hotel busy with a wedding but what was good is that the wedding didn't impede the enjoyment of the hotel for other guests, as there was space and decent service for everyone. The bedroom was very hot at night with no heat on, but that's quite common. Bed was very comfortable. Down at breakfast, the quality of the hot buffet was better than in many hotels with decent scrambled eggs and flavoursome sausage; haggis and black pudding. A definite plus tho whilst I would have liked the food to be hotter, my companion felt it was fine. Really good thick sliced bread to make your own toast and definitely better than most hotels. My only complaint is the irritating tea and coffee pots serve just one cup and you have to ask staff if you want another!

"As Good as Always"

22/10/2016

I have stayed here a couple of times a year for 10 yrs and have never been disappointed. The place is spotless. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent. Eggs cooked to order. Plenty of variety. Evening meal is more than adequate. Rooms well appointed and free Wifi. I look forward to staying there again.

"Comfy and traditional"

21/10/2016

Two nights here for a work related event. Room clean and everything I needed, including an iron. Restaurant reasonable with a set menu. Breakfast also varied and good value. Views across Tay spectacular and as a single woman traveller I felt safe and looked after throughout.

"Grand! ??"

15/10/2016

Stayed at Invercarse for 2 nights visiting Dundee. Have known the Invercarse for almost 30 years since childhood, so perhaps my review is slightly biased...! Good hotel, staff friendly and helpful with a relaxed yet professional approach. Rooms fine, comfy enough and everything I needed there eg ironing facilities and a kettle and refreshment tray. Nice big airy bathroom with big bath. They accommodated all my requests. Real plus is a lovely bar with great view from big windows over nice lawn and river Tay. Ample parking - free parking! I hate paying to park in hotels...seems an added inescapable cost for guests. Not a problem here. One small point. I wanted to browse the restaurant menu from my room one evening and was told in the room guide that I could log on to the hotel website and do so. Nope. No matter where I looked I couldn't see it! Maybe look into this guys? There is also no (certainly not that I know of) lift in the hotel but then it is an old style building and I think there's only 2 floors... A good choice; good service. Staff were particularly flexible about an issue I had with payment regarding a lost-in-post replacement card I was waiting on. Thumbs up here guys. Thanks. Time has not changed the Invercarse. Here's hoping it never will.

"Amazing staff amazing day just amazing "

15/10/2016

I had my wedding ceremony and function in the beautiful ballroom. The views are stunning the staff are amazing and couldn't have done anymore to help and make my day the most amazing ever. My youngest has allergies and nothing was too much trouble, staff are so professional and helpful and kind. Sean was fabulous Maureen was amazing and I feel so lucky to have been helped by such an amazing team. Service was seamless and I couldn't fault a thing. Thanks so much all the team at the invercarse ??

"Wedding Venue"

11/10/2016

We had our wedding here on Sunday (09/10/16), it was an amazing day. We cannot thank the staff enough and would highly recommend as a venue. The views are stunning, food was fantastic, the service and organisation were amazing; staff were so friendly and attentive throughout the day, they made our day even more enjoyable. 10/10! Special thanks to Sean, Christa, Derek (master of ceremonies) and Jimmy (head of bar) who made us feel very special and catered to our every needs. Mr and Mrs Comb.

02/10/2016

Lovely place to stay and eat. Rooms very comfortable. Food is served in an excellent restaurant at reasonable prices. Bar area is relaxing and comfortable with a good offering of drinks. The staff are all friendly and have a sense of humour if you engage with them. The hotel is well positioned within Dundee and offers plenty of parking.

"Best Western Hotels are a great standard that I like"

5
02/10/2016

Best Western does provide a good standard and when the price is right it is always somewhere I would stay. This place is no different. Good sized room. Very clean. Great breakfast. Wifi connection a little slow.

"Limited Menu"

3
26/09/2016

Nice place with great views in a quite traditional residential setting, lots of amenities close by and only a short walk to town. The friendly staff were efficient and welcoming , clean room with a comfy bed, only limited TV stations but a free Wi Fi, that was fast . The menu options were very limited from the Al La Carte menu, so it made me choose not to eat in the hotel which was a pity

"Never tire of returning to this hotel....stunning views of the River Tay!!"

24/09/2016

Wonderful hotel, staff and location! We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Dundee......the staff are always so friendly and nothing too much trouble. The rooms are lovely and clean. The food in the restaurant is outstanding! Not to forget the beautiful view of the River Tay from the Restaurant!! Such a warm and friendly hotel. ....well worth a visit.

"Felt like 4 star hotel."

23/09/2016

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. First impressions as you drive up are very good. Nice, well kept gardens, quiet setting and a great view over the Firth of Tay. Bus stop on the street outside the gates which was good as we left the car and took the bus for the duration of our stay. Reception, lounge bar and restaurant were 'rustic' and had a nice relaxing and 'feel good' factor. Our room was very nice too. Large with a massive bed - we paid extra for a deluxe double. The room felt quite warm during the night and although there was a fan, I would have liked to been able to open the windows further than the safety catch allowed. Ensuite was large too. Nice strong shower and I did notice that the mirror didn't steam up like most. We ate in the dining room both nights and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was very good too, with plenty of choice. Staff were efficient and friendly. We will go back, but next time, will book direct with the hotel as noticed we would have saved at least £25 per night had we not booked through a very well known internet booking agent?

"Sequoia Trees, a drink, and Sleep"

16/09/2016

Arrived by taxi from Dundee train station. Lovely setting amoung the trees with a view of the water. Stayed one night before cruise ship departure. Room basic Best Western with a bit of age. Free Wifi, paid full Irish Breakfast, lovely sunny breakfast room with fine service. Enjoyed a few beers unpon arrival outside, away from the pub and dining room, as weather was terrific and small tables in the tree areas very pleasant. Obviously they do a lot of business for weddings and conferences. Hotel is quite a bit out of the way of Dundee downtown. Taxi mandatory.

"It was ok"

3
13/09/2016

We stayed here for a weekend. Food was very tasty, especially the wild boar burger. Staff were great. It was just too noisy. We were in room 219 and it was right next to the car park and one way system plus there was a wedding on the first night and the guests would come out and smoke, laugh and shout and between 12-1am the guests the came outside for there taxis and were even more louder. Second night was peaceful tho. Not sure if in would stay here again.

"A real pleasure to stay here"

5
13/09/2016

I only stayed one night at Invercarse Hotel for bed and breakfast, the staff were very helpful and friendly regardless of the question or request. Breakfast was beautifully laid out and it was of the highest standard. They also cater for wheat and dairy free without any difficulty and I got the feeling this is very frequently requested and was not an issue. The room was comfortable and I can only rate it very highly and will be using it again when I come back to Dundee, many thanks.

"We must have been served by the 'B' team!"

3
07/09/2016

We booked for an evening meal for four on Monday which was a Bank holiday in England but we understand not in Scotland but the staff did not seem to know that! We definitely got the impression that the more efficient staff members (that we assume they must have) were all away. Service was slow and poor and they kept getting the orders wrong or muddled and they did not realise not enough orders had been listed for the four people on our table. The food was just about up to standard but very low on vegetables! The men were served first before the women, and when they failed to notice that they should have brought two meals of one kind they gave the one to the man, leaving a woman waiting for ages.(with everyone else of course!) It was a nice dining room with splendid views over Tay but food and service were disappointing. Over 50 years ago when two of us were students at the university there, this place was THE place to be taken to for a treat. In fact, one of us went there on a first date with the person they later married. Best Western can surely do better or lose its 'Best' qualification. Incidentally, they did make an adjustment to our bill for the poor service we complained about.

"Great value with lovely view"

4
04/09/2016

Stayed here to attend family party. Rate was very reasonable and included breakfast. The room was decent size and clean. Free wifi was very welcome. Breakfast buffet was very good with decent selection and topped up frequently. Staff were friendly and all said hello. Party was great and the buffet served fantastic. Location is good in quiet location with lovely view across the water too.

"FANTASTIC SERVICE AND FOOD"

5
23/08/2016

We arrived here on a coach party of 44 on Saturday after a disastrous journey with broken down bus. However, the staff were very friendly and sympathetic. When our meals were being served the service was second to none. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Would definitely return for a longer period, as unfortunately we only had a few hours there.

"Good as a base"

3
22/08/2016

Room good size, bath with overhead shower and clean. Food good but could do with more variety on the menu especially the set menu. Cups, glasses and cutlery not clean (possibly new dishwasher required). Most of the staff friendly and helpful. This hotel was ok for a base we stayed 3 days and we wouldn't want to stay longer in it.

"Very enjoyable"

4
20/08/2016

Hotel very good . Staff friendly and helpful. Setting lovely. Lovely bar and restaurant area. Only negative is that breakfast was not included in price and £9 per person is too much to charge . If it had been £5 then we would have certainly stayed.

"Really Good"

5
19/08/2016

Checked in here as my usual choice in Dundee was not available. Good room, lovely bed and good food! Staff were friendly and great parking. View from the dining room looking over the river was splendid! I would recommend for both business and leisure use.

"Wedding"

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel has a stunning view over the Tay, which is a delight to look at over your meals. The wedding team were excellent. Very efficient and professional. The room was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed!

"So very close to being perfect"

16/08/2016

Stayed just one night on business..... Car park is spacious, the check in was fast and efficient. Yes the room didn't have air conditioning, but it does have a fan to keep it cool, and it was clean and roomy. Having booked into the restaurant I was looking forward to the most important aspect for me... As you can see, the view from just outside the restaurant was amazing, and it is glass fronted so you can enjoy it in abundance. The starter of Salmon fish cake on pea foam, topped with sea bass was top class, I really thought I'd found a little gem I could return to time on time. Unfortunately my main, Rib eye steak, which I tend to order in new restaurants to judge a level playing field, was awful. It was supposed to be 28 day matured but looked and tasted more like 28 day old road kill. How on earth can the starter have so much taste and presentation, and the steak appear like no one tasted or even looked at it before service. Nearly, very nearly rose to the top of my Dundee hotels.

"Good base"

4
12/08/2016

Everything you would hope for from a hotel of this size and reputation. An efficient check in, comfortable room with good wifi and nice hot shower. The hotel bar is pleasant. Very handy for getting away from Dundee but it is a taxi ride to get back into the city centre

10/08/2016

Earlier in the day we called in and asked to see the dinner menu for that evening, found it very much to our liking, and made a reservation. Arriving several minutes earlier than our booking time, so that we could enjoy pre-dinner drinks in a comfortable and pleasant environment, our order for two large gins with tonic was taken by a manager. When these were poured she beckoned us to the bar to collect them and take them to our nearby table, thus denying herself and/or her staff the tip that we give as a matter of custom, when served at table. This experience prompted us to joke between ourselves that we may have to collect our food from the kitchen, but had we had any such fears they would have been entirely without foundation, for our three waitresses provided friendly and efficient service throughout our meal. From a menu offering an excellent selection of dishes, we both chose the Cullen Skink soup for starters, arguably the best we had ever tasted and so good that we asked that the chef be told how much we enjoyed it. The small accompanying dish of crème fraiche was a nice touch, and all that it would have taken to enhance our overall enjoyment by a fraction, was for the dinner roll to be served warm. A main course of crisply skinned sea bass on a bed of noodles and vegetables was voted an outright winner, indeed so much so that a message was sent to the chef asking how the delicious vegetables had been cooked! But our other main course of thinly sliced minute steak was a great disappointment, being tough, lacking flavour and almost inedible. Most of the generous portion remained on the plate untouched and it would have been nice had we been offered complimentary coffee by way of atonement, but perhaps it would have been necessary to make a fuss for this to happen, rather than leave it to the discretion of the establishment. Three scoops of very good ice cream with each individually flavoured scoop having its own little disc of mouth-wateringly good shortbread was nicely presented, and was the choice we both made from an impressive list of desserts, following which we paid our bill, acknowledged appropriately the excellent service provided by our three waitresses and left.

"car keys, wallet and mobile phones stole from room"

01/08/2016

booked in for 4 nights for work purposes, entered the suite late at night closed bedroom window as wide open, lounge window appeared closed. During the night somebody dragged a bin across the car park to stand on and climbed in to my lounge area. He stole my company 4x4 vehicle car keys 2 x I phones and my wallet. proceeded to reception spoke to the night porter (who spoke to him and ordered him a taxi no questions asked with my car keys visible in his hand) he then left the car park driving my company vehicle. the cctv is not monitored only played back if needed and the hotel security is terrible. how can a grown man open a ground floor window wide enough to climb through ??? no latches or locks ??? no air con in summer so beware if you open your ground floor windows. hotel think its fine they have no issues with security and my company had to foot the bill for my losses and the vehicle which was later crashed. I will never stay at this hotel again !!!!!!

27/07/2016

I can only reiterate what "Clodhopper" had to say as I too have today returned from my nephew's wedding staying for two nights. Wedding itself was fantastic both food and staff. Staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. As a wedding venue grounds were beautiful and view out of ballroom full length window breathtaking. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Rooms were spacious and clean and a comfortable bed. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

"Overnight Stay"

23/07/2016

Great hotel with very helpful staff. Room very comfortable but a little noisy with deliveries first thing in the morning. Had dinner when we arrived and there was an excellent choice and value for money. Breakfast was equally good in the morning. Room was spacious and comfortable. No lift though.

"Good hotel if you have a your own transportation."

23/07/2016

The hotel has above average service, good rooms, and is easy to access from the main roadways. But, iit is a fair distance from any other services and the city center. It was very clean with good service from the very helpful staff. There is a good breakfast.

"A fantastic Wedding Venue"

18/07/2016

I recently attended a friends wedding in the Invercarse and I was very impressed by the views, grounds and the ballroom. The service was impeccable and the wedding meal was served smoothly, efficiently and by friendly staff. The ballroom is a good size with a good dance floor but the highlight is the beautiful full length window giving a breath taking view of the Tay.

"Great hotel, thin walls!"

17/07/2016

Lovely hotel both inside and out with very friendly, helpful staff. Upon arrival shortly after 2pm our room wasnt ready but we were quickly switched rooms with no fuss which was great service. The room was clean and a good size for the two of us. Small flat screen TV on wall with all the channels you need. The bed was very comfortable and the room stayed a nice temperature throughout the night. The only downside was the noise from the room above us which kept waking us up all night the walls are very thin. Will definitely be back (might opt for top floor next time though lol)

"Friendly restful hotel with great views"

Invercarse hotel Dundee is well placed for touring to St. Andrews,Aberdeen and Cairngorme National Park.Edinburgh is also within reach. There are a few interesting and varied National Trust properties gardens and estates nearby with reciprocal agreements with National Trust England. There's something for all age groups and a wide variety of interests both outdoors and indoors.

"2 night stay"

14/07/2016

Booked through Hotels.com for a couple of nights away. The staff on reception were extremely helpful and made our stay very pleasant. The room was very clean and spacious. Ate in the restaurant on both evenings and the food was delicious. Although the hotel is not in the centre of Dundee it is only a short bus ride away, so no need to drive, eliminating any parking worries. Reception staff very helpful with timetables and best bus to get. Would have no hesitation in staying here on any future trips to Dundee and would recommend to anyone. Hotel is also very close to Dundee airport.

"Excellent location, good breakfasts."

05/07/2016

Booked for 8 family members to stay here for a family occasion locally. Rooms all bright and clean with good bath or shower room. One room unfortunately had a double bed with broken springs - v uncomfortable on one side. Staff said would report to housekeeping but no apology or reduction given, Breakfasts were in the bright dining room with good view of the River Tay. Good selection of hot and cold items, fresh fruit, juices, yogurt etc. pots of coffee and tea supplied. Staff a bit stretched as rather more guests than they expected but pleasant and helpful.

"A wedding overnight"

4
01/07/2016

Recently stayed here for one night following a family wedding. Overall the staff coped admirably with the usual level of drunkenness and debauchery associated with such a do for over 100 people. Food at the reception was excellent and again highly attentive and well co-ordinated staff meant service was brisk. Room was well appointed but lacked air conditioning and the toilet handle had obviously broken at some point and had been bodged with a spare door handle! Breakfast was definitely a curate's egg - the danish pastries were excellent but the toast was barely browned for example. Overall a good standard and I'd certainly recommend it, let down only but a couple of little things.

"Good hotel and friendly helpful staff"

30/06/2016

This hotel is not in the centre of Dundee but has great views of the Tay. The staff go out of their way to help and are all very friendly and approachable. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The restaurant serves local produce which is well presented.

"Great hotel with helpful staff"

24/06/2016

I chose this hotel for my annual visit as the hotel I used to stay in had hiked their prices for graduation week for the university that I had not realised was on. Invercarse is a 10 minute bus ride from the centre and is well served with buses. It is set in beautiful well -kept grounds and has a huge free car park. They have a large restaurant with views over the river Tay. It is a two storey building but has no lift. My room faced the side car park but was quiet and spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom a good size. The hotel has free wifi and has a terminal in reception for those of us who don't have smart phones or bring tablets. Breakfast was great - lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, croissants, bacon, sausage etc and porridge and scrambled eggs made to order. Free morning paper. Bar snacks available. All reception staff helpful, especially Nadine. Only niggle - I was next to a fire door that knocked three times when it closed which made me think someone was at my door. That wasn't able to be fixed. When I lost Sky news on the tv, someone rebooted the Sky box for me.

"Back again"

22/06/2016

Still no upgrade. The hotel as usual was good breakfast a bit poor on the hot choices. Overall a good venue easily accessible for where I wanted to go. Staff very helpful and pleasant as usual. Will go back again.

"Lovely hotel for leisure trip"

18/06/2016

We booked this using Tesco Clubcard vouchers and the process was easy. All staff from initial booking, to checking in to restaurant staff were lovely. Hotel was in a good location, close to the city with plenty of parking. room was nice and spotless. Hotel groungs well maintained and good view of the Tay from the restaurant. Food and drink prices were very reasonable for a hotel of this type. food quality at dinner was excellent

"Best thing about Dundee"

18/06/2016

I've stayed here a few times and you always get; - A good sleep - A really nice meal with a view - A great breakfast - Pleasant staff - Clean room at a good price - Free wifi - Easy and free parking It's also far enough away from the 'undesirable' areas of Dundee.

"Far enough from the city centre, but convenient location within 20 min walk to city centre"

4
15/06/2016

This best western hotel is ideal location if you do not want to stay in the city centre but within within walking distance to city centre. it is also convenient to Ninewells and Medical School and Dundee Airport. All within 5 min ride. If you have a car it is ideal, plenty of free car parking and not too far for waking, taxi or bus. It has great bar and restaurant if you want to relax and eat/drink in the hotel. If the weather is okay why not walk for few minutes to the Botanical Gardens and Botanical Gardens Cafe. Great place for functions with its meeting rooms and ball room. Large group dinner or reception is great in this hotel, the best in the area.

My stay was completely spoiled by things that you expect from a hotel to cover. Trying to sleep I had to phone reception because of a terrible noise from some hotel machines, I dont know. So I was moved to another room but it wasnt much better, still some background noise in a hotel!!!! the bed was terrible and the toilet was dirty also. I could hear the people from next room at night as they were in my room. So dissapointed everything. Having said that at the check out I was not offered any discount, thank you!!!. I had a terrible stay, completely spoiled. I will not recommend this place and I will not be back.

Sean B, Deputy General Manager at BEST WESTERN Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear 287piscis, Thank you for your review following your stay with us at the hotel. I apologise that you heard background noise in your bedroom when you checked in. I am unsure as to what this could have been as our kitchen extractor fans and equipment is switched off at 9.00pm. Again please accept my apologies that you also heard background noise when moved into another room. Whilst all hotels make every effort to eliminate disruption throughout the night, there will be instances when a guest may hear background noise for various reasons. I am concerned to read that our Reception Team did not offer you any form of compensation when you checked out. I will investigate this internally, as our standard practice when dealing with guests' issues is normally dealt with by the Duty Manager. Yours sincerely, Sean Burke Deputy General Manager

Comfortable beds, good food in restaurant, overall good value for money. The view from the rstaurant was nice, plenty of car parking space. Only down side was our room was on the ground floor looking onto the car park, but wasn't bothered much by noise later in the evening. Would recommend and stay there again.

"A decent hotel, a little out of town"

The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly. It's not outstanding but it's certainly hard to fault. I had a single room which was a touch small but totally fine; the room was pretty warm on a warm day though and there didn't seem to be a way to change that - i.e., no air-con in my room.

Attending a wedding, at Inchture, we booked a stay with our daughter for one night. We decided to eat in the hotel before going to the Wedding reception. Room looked like it had been cleaned, but not hoovered? Arrived in plenty time for our 6 oclock booking, and had a drink in the bar. (barmaid was very friendly and helpful) we were shown menus, Got shown to our seats and waited quite a while for someone to take a drinks order, My wife ordered a salmon/prawn thing, which she thought was a prawn cocktail type starter. i ordered a fruit starter.. When they arrived, mines was OK cant go wrong with Sorbet and fruit chopped in a bowl, my wife had a strange starter with 3 bits of bread, bit of salmon and a prawn on top ..)with "micro salad".. small bit of "green" dotted about the plate. We both ordered steaks (9.00 supplement each) with "real chips" and my wife opted for a peppercorn sauce. My wife's sauce was extremely runny and the real chips were from a frozen packet. Presentation was poor, but tasty enough. not the best experience.... I had a good nights sleep and hotel room was very quiet. (room 123) breakfast, is a hot and cold buffet style with good variety . although a woman took my wife's plate away while she had a drink of tea mid meal? and when asked for more coffee, the girl asked if we wanted more milk, so she did hear me, but never got any more coffee..

Dear AndyAird48 Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at the Bestwestern Invercarse Hotel. I sincerely apologise that you were disappointed with parts of your visit. I am pleased that Michelle on the bar looked after you. I regret that you didn't enjoy the starter. The chips are bought in chilled but are not frozen. Your comments regarding breakfast service have been addressed to prevent any reoccurrence. Thank you for bringing these matters to my attention. Yours Sincerely Martina Whiting Director

"Good value but let down by the noise"

I stayed 3 nights, 23rd - 25th May, and for the money everything is pretty good, nice clean room, pleasant staff and great breakfast, but on the last night the Ballroom was in use and the noise was simply unacceptable. My room was on the Ballroom side which really didn't help but even with the window shut it was far too loud and too late. This is within the control of the management and needs sorting. Not all your guests are 'at the party' and as the following day was an early start and a 400 mile drive at the end, a good nights sleep is not too much to ask for. When I mentioned this at check out, all I got was "oh, sorry about that, it was a group of student teachers who has graduated!" If you are thinking of staying here, check if there are any functions planned and if so insist on a room on the other side or consider elsewhere.

The hotel is currently being refurbished - at least the communal areas - and so is looking slightly battered! The room was in need of the same but was clean and the bed comfortable. The staff were delightful and the food good although not outstanding. The location is great with beautiful views from the bar and dining room. I would definitely stay again if in the area!

We booked a double room for an overnight stay and were pleasantly surprised to find that we'd been given a suite. Great to have the separate sitting room when the weather outside was hot and sunny. Both the bedroom and bathroom were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very good value at £8.75 a head for the works. There was plenty of juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals. We also had a choice of 4 types of bread plus pastries. The hot buffet was excellent. A good choice of locally produced dishes plus scrambled eggs, real grilled tomatoes and baked beans.

Stayed for the weekend of May Bank Holiday as part of 57 from Elgin Rotary Club. From the Check in, to the overall Service, the food, and the rooms, everything was simply fantastic. Top class service and would recommend anyone to stay here. Thank you for a 1st class weekend stay.

02/05/2016

Stayed here for a night last minute on our way home. The hotel was really easy to find with the sat nav and plenty big parking spaces. The lady that checked us in and out was lovely and so was the staff in the bar/restaurant. The room was really nice, bathroom quite plain but really big! Bed was really comfy! Only thing that was disappointing was the food. It wasn't the best and was quite expensive for what you got. Would stay here again!

"Distinctly average"

24/04/2016

Stayed for 2 nights. The room was fine with a comfortable bed and a functioning bathroom. A colleague however was less fortunate and described being shoehorned into a broom cupboard. My goats cheese risotto was am amorphous mound of fatty homogenous gloop which I abandoned after 3 mouthfuls. Breakfast too was disappointing and I have never seen such tiny pots of tea and coffee. The view from the restaurant was pleasant though On checking out I had a dispute over whether I had paid already for B&B or room only, requiring me to pull up the details on my laptop to confirm the former. Embarrassing with other people also waiting to check out. I doubt I'll return.

"Comfortable stay in a spacious and clean hotel"

4
23/04/2016

Daily supply of clean towels. Daily attendance to en-suite and supply of sachets (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sugar) and UHT milk. Wi-Fi included. Well-situated with access to Dundee Technology Park, Ninewells Teaching Hospital and Dundee University. Good long walk into Dundee City. Bus stop within minutes with regular and punctual buses at reasonable prices. To improve would be having a light switch new the bed to switch off the main light instead of going to the door to do this. Would go again

21/04/2016

We recently had our wedding reception at the Invercarse. The service received throughout was professional and helpful from the start. Our experience was amazing on the day & the staff played a huge part in that. Our room was set up exactly as imagined/explained and the food was delish (everyone wanted to know how to make the potato cakes)! Our stay was comfortable and breakfast was also very plentiful. We would definitely recommend the Invercarse for a wedding, or function.

"Comfortable and Friendly "

Very nice place to stay. Rooms are of a good size and clean. Good beds and the ensuite is of a decent size. In some places I find the bathroom is smaller than the wardrobe. Staff are friendly. Great location. I'd stay here again.

We stayed for one night to save us haveing an early start the following morning as we were sailing from Dundee. It was a very comfortable stay, spotlessly clean and the staff couldn't be nicer. We were so pleased we stayed for another night when we returned from our cruise. Anytime we were in Dundee and needed a hotel we would definately book this one.

We attended a wedding here (which was lovely - nice venue and food was really good). Room was fine, nothing fancy but we only needed a bed for the night. Comfortable bed and reasonable price. Breakfast was pretty good (potato scones should be fried not steamed though!!).

"Great spacious hotel and very close to Ninewells Hospital."

5
10/04/2016

Booked last minute for the Invercarse mainly on the basis it was the closest hotel to Ninewells. The #5 bus goes from right outside the hotel throughout the day and takes approx 5/6 minutes. You can walk but it's a steep hill on the way there. The hotel was lovely and all the staff were very friendly. I was travelling alone and felt very safe. My room was great, spacious, clean, a very comfy bed and a great place to relax in between visits. I needed to add an extra night onto my stay and reception added it no problem at the same rate. The wifi was brilliant, never cut out and was free - much appreciated. The hotel's easy to get to from Dundee city centre, regular buses along the Perth road. Recommended and if I'm staying in Dundee again I would definitely stay at the Invercarse.

"Attended a wedding just down the road"

Stayed for one night in one of the executive doubles. Fantastic room, great spaced bathroom with full wet floor, disabled supports for the toilet and full patio door access to the car park for disabled access direct to the room with a disabled parking bay right outside. Great bar with 24 hour access to the bar for guest residents which is great at a wedding. Fantastic food and breakfast and very helpful and welcoming staff. Great prices and great hotel. If we're ever back in Dundee this will be where we stay. Botanical gardens across the road and 10 minute walk to the airport. 5 stars.

Guest at a rugby charity dinner which not only saw great entertainment but food & service of a high standard. Faultless, across a very busy room. Well done & thanks to all at the hotel that supported the event. I'll not be alone in being impressed.

"Mothers Day Meal"

20/03/2016

Have been to this hotel on many occasions and have always enjoyed going. After having been there again for Mother's Day this year and having a few issues with the service I sent the following email to them 12days ago. Extremely disappointed that nobody has even bothered to reply... My sister and I booked a table for Mother's Day for High Tea for 5 people on Sunday and received email confirmation (see attached) advising that the table had been booked in the ballroom for 5pm. On arrival however, I was unable to see our name listed on the table planner. We spoke to a staff member who said that the table might have been booked in the restaurant instead and went to check. He came back and advised that there was nothing booked for us, however there was a 'spare table' We were then seated at the back table nearest to the bar. There was one other table beside us but all other tables were at the other end of the ballroom. We honestly felt like an afterthought being so far away from everyone else! Also because of where we were seated, every time the door to the ballroom was opened the draft came right to our table and it was absolutely freezing. Our orders were taken and we were served our food promptly but given the toast at the same time as our main course. We also asked for tea for 3 and this was served in a really small teapot. We were given a refill when we asked no problem whatsoever, but my mum was sitting with half a cup of tea until this arrived. Lastly, we were asked if we needed any condiments and we asked for vinegar. My mum used this and put it down on the table and it was removed before anyone else had the chance to use it! I would never normally complain as have been to the Invercarse on many occasions, including my sister's wedding and mother's day last year, the service has always been excellent. However, on this occasion, I felt really disappointed and actually felt a bit embarrassed as although my mum kept assuring us everything was fine, the rest of us were of the same opinion that the usual high standards had definitely slipped on that evening.

Dear Becca_N111, Thank you for your review following your visit to the hotel on Mother's Day. I apologise that you received no timely response to your initial email to us. I have investigated this and have emailed you directly with the original response which appears to have been sent to an incorrect email address for you. This addresses the points you have raised in your review. I look forward to receiving your response to my direct email. Yours sincerely, Sean Burke Deputy General Manager

"Great location, friendly staff and fantastic value"

16/03/2016

We went over to Dundee to visit the city and go walking and the Invercarse was a good location to do everything from. Close to the City, with views over the river Tay it was a great place to stay and only a short distance from a wide range of walks at Broughty Ferry and Tayport across in Fife. With comfortable rooms, free wifi and friendly attentive staff, the Invercarse is a great place to stay and offers accommodation at a good price, with some nice wines and food on the menu too. The staff here were a real bonus and their friendly, helpful approach made us feel very welcome. If you want somewhere to stay with fine views, private grounds, ample free parking and with an air of peace and quiet, this is a good choice, though it can be a busy place at night and a little noisy with a range of events catered for in their function suite. But all in all if your not bothered by a little exhuberance... this is a brilliant location for a short break and for all you walkers and ramblers, dont miss a visit across the river to Tayport and a lovely walk through the forest to the sand dunes with a cool sea breeze to refresh you. Our thanks to the Management and their team for making our stay such a pleasure JIm and Sue McHarg

"Lovely Mother's Day treat!! "

16/03/2016

Having only decided last minute we wanted to go out for Mother's Day, and trying everywhere, the birkhill inn told us to try Invercarse, somewhere we'd never even thought of! I was sadly working until 7 but the restaurant gave us a table at 8 no problem! We wandered in and were seated at a lovely table at the back. We ordered a round of drinks and then decided on our food. We were struggling for a while as everything on the menu sounded delicious! My mother and I decided on the black pudding Bon bons and my grandparents had the artisan bread to share. Starters arrived quickly and oh my goodness they were so tasty! I don't like celery or nuts, but they accompanied the black pudding down to a T. The breads my grandparents had ordered were lovely and hot and came with oils instead of butter (which I love). So tasty! Our mains then came and my mother, grandmother and myself ordered the fish and chips, delicious! We were glad we ordered the regular instead of the large as the regular was big enough. My grandfather had the meat board and he loved it! We then ordered desserts and coffees, I had the chocolate brownie and my mother had the cinnamon tart but the masterpiece was my grandmothers knicker bocker glory, oh my goodness, what an impressive site! We all loved the food and we built up a good rapore with our lovely down to earth waitress Suzy! Will definitely be back and reccomend to those struggling on where to go!

"after funeral cup of coffee"

3
15/03/2016

the facilities for after funeral coffee are not very good as up stairs and the food is sparce, the sandwiches are like door steps and very thick, when I complained about the sandwiches the receptionist was very abrupt and said they could do nothing as the chef would only use that type of bread, the cakes were not plentiful and very small. The venue is not worth the money paid and there are far better for value venues

"Anther stay for work"

11/03/2016

Having stayed here before I was happy to go again. This time a colleague was with me. She arrived two days before me on booking in with her points card she was upgraded to a suite. Which is good saying she was their for 5 days. I booked in and asked for my upgrade as I also have a card (the highest level). But did not get I did ask was the hotel busy and was told no. As previous the stay and the facilities were good staff very helpful. Will be back

"Excellent stopover"

5
11/03/2016

I base my review ratings on my expectations which are generally guided by the price I pay. That said and to be clear, an average or low price is no reason to offer shoddy service or unclean amenities. The price I paid for the two rooms I booked for myself and my colleague were in alignment with your average budget provincial chain hotel, around £50-60 per room. This place without doubt exceeded my expectations. A 10 minute drive from Dundee centre and off the main road means a quiet location. It's very close to the airport but Dundee Aerodrome isn't exactly an international hub. Late night check-ins are common with my work commitments and we were greeted and swiftly processed by a friendly, helpful night porter. Rooms are spacious, as are the beds. Slightly dated decor and furniture, a bit of threadbare and very slightly torn linen but clean. No view from the window to speak of but I was only interested in a good night's sleep which is exactly what I got. WiFi is complementary and decent quality. The breakfast buffet was well presented, a good variety offered and very tasty. The coffee is real (not instant) but the only request I made for natural yogurt, rather than flavoured, was unable to be fulfilled. No matter, the sausages and haggis made up for it! For £7.00 that's better value than a Premier Inn breakfast and to top it a lovely Tay view from the restaurant - see picture. Well done and thank you, I'll be visiting again on my next trip to Dundee.

"Noisy at night"

3
11/03/2016

Hotel nice with free parking. Beds ok but cobwebs on the ceiling. Used cotton buds and an empty biscuit wrapper in bedside drawer. Stayed because had an interview early the next day but from 10.30pm until 2am the noise from people partying in the ballroom was terrible. Whilst could have coped with the music it was the people spilling out for a chat, shouting, horns sounding, wheels spinning etc. Once one lot had gone another crowd replaced them. After driving 250 miles I got 4 hours sleep. I wouldnt like to live near the hotel. Reception informed me it was the christian union ball and they dont normally have functions during the week! Breakfast very nice but evening menu a little boring and exoensive for what it was.

Had a lovely comfortable stay nice & warm & the bed was so comfy. Lovely grounds & on a main bus route into town. Free parking & plenty room for all. Never had breakfast so couldn't comment on this as we were room only.

"Neat and clean , average hotel"

3
08/03/2016

Stayed the one night as attending a function. Room nicely decorated and looked to be a super king sized bed which was very comfortable. Pillows a bit on the hard side but some people like that. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the rooms but only full fat milk. I did ask for semi and was given a small jug of it. Room was cold when we arrived and it took me a while to realise that both the radiators were turned off. Soon warmed up though. All in all a good average hotel. Did not have breakfast as the restaurant meal the night before was very uninspired so stopped on way home for food.

I stayed in best western invercarse in February during my trip as part of the college with the rest of the group. I must say the hotel staff were very welcoming, nice and sweet. The rooms were clean and the space was good enough. The view from were I used to sit for breakfast was amazing I could see sun rise and the beautiful color of the sky and the river as well and at night the stars and the moon looked soooo beautiful. By the time we reached to the end of our trip we felt that best west was like home and I must say thank you to the head of housekeeping Ms. May Cummings she was very helpful and so nice and sweet and the whole team came to say goodbye when we checked out. Thank you for making our stay in Dundee amazing and memorable Reem Alhammadi

We booked this hotel as a stop over on our journey. On arrival we were greeted by a row of windows onto the carpark with yellowed net curtains, not inspiring! We were shown ,unfortunately, to one of these rooms. There were two lightbulbs out and the sliding door on the wardrobe was off the runners. The bathroom was clean enough ,however the corridor the room was off was very noisy as there was a large gap under the door. The person in the room next door sneezed and it sounded as if he was in our room.We actually didnt stay as we were very disappointed with the room.We were told the hotel was full of Arabian students and they had no more rooms. Not sure we'll be staying at a Best Western if thats the standard.

Martina W, Manager at BEST WESTERN Invercarse Hotel, responded to this review
Dear anon160 I am disappointed that you didn't stay with us at the Hotel. The curtains that you saw from the car park are gold organza voiles in our executive rooms. You were booked into a standard room. I apologise that there were light bulbs out. We could have quickly rectified this for you. We did have a large group staying and apologise if they were noisy outside your room. Unfortunately, we were fully booked and couldn't offer you another room. All Best Western Hotels are individually owned and operated which gives them personality. Kind Regards Martina Whiting Director

The Redwood Restaurant is in a great location within the Hotel with magnificent views out across the River Tay there are two incredible Redwood trees in the grounds We had a family Sunday Lunch to celebrate a special birthday The menu is quite extensive and there is something for everyone As expected on a Sunday there was a choice of two roasts with vegetables and Yorkshire pudding The young staff are a credit to the Hotel management with a top class service The Food All starters were soon consumed with gusto and the different tastes from haggis to black pudding to smoke salmon and assorted breads and soups everyone agreed the tastes were exceptional Roasts were very good with really Tasty meats ,the vegetarian dishes were good although maybe a bit too much macaroni cheese , everyone cleared their plates ,the trawler plate looked and tasted first class Trios of ice cream, knickerbocker glories, meringues ,sticky toffee pudding were all very tasty The place was busy and I would recommend you book your table We left feeling really great ,we had a wonderful lunch made even better by a great team who, looked after us very well and all things considered The bill was pretty good too The food looks good and tastes good and this place is better than any of the chain restaurants attached to some local hotels

"£3.70 for a bottle of mineral water?"

3
01/02/2016

Yep, £3.70 for a bottle water to take back to the room. Stayed there last weekend. Actually our room was clean (and spacious though the other 3 rooms taken by our friends were less so). Breakfast was plentiful (but we had to clear our own plates away on both days). But; £3.70? for water? Some people might call that profiteering.

I stayed here while wicking in the area. The room was nice, very clean and plenty of space. The hotel bar and reception are are also very well kept. The staff on reception and in the restaurant were very polite and friendly. I'll definitely be staying here when working in the area in future.

16/01/2016

Lovely hotel, we stayed one night in a deluxe double B&B, delicious full Scottish breakfast the next day in a lovely dining room with great views of the river. Only complaint was we could only stay one night. Staff very helpful and particularly liked the male member of staff on duty at reception when we arrived home about 1am, he gave us a warm welcome, thanks. Would definitely stay again and I like Dundee Town Centre, Caird Hall was beautiful and all the Christmas trees abd decorations around the town were beautiful. Would definitely recommend Nandos for a quick bite around the corner from the Caird Hall.

I stayed at best western invercase hotel whilst working away from home it cost around £60 for bed and breakfast and I could not fault the place the room was clean and warm, food was good and came out quick, there was a good choice at breakfast, friendly staff I really could not fault it good value for money

"Warm and clean"

3
09/01/2016

We stayed here for two nights in December. The room was very warm, quiet, clean, with comfortable beds. Food in the restaurant was disappointing, and, although the staff agreed that the meat served was riddled with fat, offered nothing in compensation on the evening itself. However, we were offered a discount for it upon checking out. Good for a place to lay your head after a long day.

"Pleasant and friendly hotel"

4
14/12/2015

This is the first time we have stayed at the Invercarse Hotel whilst on a short break visiting friends and family. We were pleasantly surprised. Our Diamond card usually secures a ‘free upgrade' but on this occasion this was not available, however the standard double and was perfectly adequate, with an excellent bed and well equipped bathroom. We had two evening meals at the hotel and the quality and presentation was very good – as was the service. Bar staff were attentive and helpful. The choice at breakfast was very good. All in all, it was a good experience and we would certainly consider staying at this hotel again. Richard and Elizabeth

"Very Comfortable Hotel in good location "

4
28/11/2015

Very Comfortable hotel in lovely area on southern outskirts of Dundee. About two miles from the city centre, the hotel has lovely views over the River Tay and a large free car park. Reception and the public areas were warm and welcoming and the staff were courteous and helpful. Particular mention for Jennifer on reception in this regard. Our upgraded executive double room was bright and spacious. The en-suite bathroom was also spacious and well appointed. Dinner was a high standard, as was breakfast. We will stay there again.

"Excellent"

20/11/2015

I stay here on business a few nights in the same week at least once every few months. The staff are excellent, friendly and courteous. There is always a friendly welcome back as if being greeted by old friends. The rooms are always clean and tidy. The breakfast and restaurant facilities are great. Whenever in Dundee this is my first choice of hotel and I am always disappointed if I find they are fully booked.

"Good place to stay"

18/11/2015

Good deal for bed and breakfast at this hotel overlooking the firth on a clear day. Not too fat from city centre and on a reasonable bus route so no need to worry about parking. Lots of space in the hotel to sit and relax outside your room

"Great Scottish Breakfast"

4
16/11/2015

The Invercarse is a lovely old traditional and welcoming hotel, with friendly staff and clean well appointed rooms. We really only used the hotel for bed and breakfast, but the breakfast was outstanding. Haggis and Honey were my favourites! Not just any old honey, but Manuka honey. Our waitress was lovely with a great personality and a happy smile. The view from the dining room I understand is stunning, but sadly our morning was cloudy and wet. Overall great value for money and we will certainly use the Invercarse again when next in Dundee.

Room bit of a letdown as it needs a lot of updating.. Shower pretty horrid with rust . But it was a good welcome in reception. And best of all was the breakfast which was excellent. Although I don't agree with having to do your own toast !! It was in a nice quiet setting .. Break was great pastry and good fresh bread too

"Wonderful Wedding Venue"

5
02/11/2015

This was my son and future daughter in laws choice of venue for their wedding on the 30th of October 2015. Firstly the venue was beautifully set up, all of the staff members performed in a very professional way with almost military procession. Nothing was to much bother and staff were very attentive at all times. I was so happy with the way everything was handled and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Everyone has said what a fantastic day and night they had and therefore I have given the hotel an Excellent. The lady manager on shift was fantastic! Well done to all the staff and thank you for making it a day to remember for everyone .

This is the second time we have been to this hotel this year. It is a very nice hotel, lovely setting. Rooms very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Bit disappointed with the evening meals, portions are on the small side. I ordered a large fish, I have seen bigger goldfish. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay

"Lovely hotel with fab views"

We (3) booked the hotel as it was the location of a friends wedding. Rooms are a decent size and layout, the hotel especially downstairs is beautifully decorated in shades of golds and Browns. The view from the ballroom and restaurant was fab even with the rain. Food, both breakfast and for our friends wedding was lovely, the staff were polite, welcoming and accommodating when we asked to split bills 3 ways. The only niggles were room temperature as the towel rail is always on so it was a bit warm and because it was blowing a gale you couldn't keep the window open to counteract. And no flannels provided along with the towels.

"Well worth the price"

Best Western Invercarse in Dundee was a great bargain. While not in the center of town it is just a short bus ride or straight shot by car to where the action is. The rooms are clean and up to date. The made to order breakfast is well worth the price. There is plenty of parking. The hotel itself appears to have been a large residential home at one time. There is beautiful woodwork and details in the old part. The staff is quite friendly and attentive.

"nice enough hotel but small basic room"

Have stayed in a few Best Western hotels and usually older buildings with nice big rooms. This was also a nice hotel but with additional rooms built into back so was slightly disappointed in smallish basic room. Dinner was nice and staff friendly though so would go back

"Pleasant Hotel"

This is a pleasant hotel, whist not a top flight establishment, it has well presented rooms, which are reasonable value for money. The staff all seemed very pleasant. The breakfast was excellent, although the coffee was not pleasant. We had one dinner here, the food was passable but showed little imagination in the menu, but the dining room was totally devoid of any atmosphere a little cold but the service good. The bar was a cluttered mess of chairs, again rather cheerless, and again saved by pleasant staff.

Stayed at this Dundee hotel for one night and found it to be very good. Staff are all very pleasant, room was clean and comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast were very good with a good choice on the menu. We will certainly use this good hotel when we are next in the area.

"Very disappointing "

Went for family meal. Started off fine with a drink in the lounge bar. Then were seated at a nice table but unfortunately it all went downhill after this. Service very poor, very slow, forgetful staff. Had to ask for drinks order to be taken, then had to go & collect drinks from bar. Had to ask twice for wine menu. Food order taken incorrectly. Ordered wine then had to go to bar again to remind them. Food was ok but overall a very disappointing night. Safe to say that we won't be back.

My husband and I were booked in for one night, (last sunday night), when we arrived at reception it was cosy and welcoming and the staff were lovely, as was our room, just right, we came down to the bar to get a drink and something to eat, and again the staff could not do enough for us, and the food was excellent, I had scampi and haddock combi, and it was fresh and tasty. our overall experience of this hotel was excellent. would highly recommend it.

"Great Hotel"

Spent a Saturday night here in October and it is a great hotel. It is rather far to walk into town but for the price it is fantastic for an overnight stay. We had dinner at the hotel which was great and a good choice. The breakfast was one of the best I have had at any hotel with fantastic choices of fresh fruit, cereals, and full cooked breakfast with everything to choose from. The rooms were very clean and just perfect for an overnight visit. There was a wedding on when we were there and never heard a thing all night, so very quiet. A two minute drive and you are back on the main Perth/Glasgow road and almost directly across from Dundee Airport.

"business stay"

Attended an NHS induction course ,so location ideal. Hotel clean and comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. Had dinner in the restaurant and the food was good value and beautifully cooked. Wonderful views over the Tay from the restaurant.Superb location all round. Room quite hot and with windows open was quite noisy due to some heating unit or similar outside, Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was once again tasty and beautifully cooked. Only criticism was that when leaving and waiting for a taxi outside, reception staff were smoking outside and left with my clothes smelling of smoke. It was not the image I wished to have. Perhaps staff could smoke elsewhere?

Great venue for a celebration. We received excellent service from check in to check out. Room was very clean and comfortable. Could not fault the catering at the event, followed by an excellent breakfast the following morning in the restaurant with magnificent views over the Tay. Ample free car parking at the hotel which was a bonus. If staying for a lazy weekend break would request a room at the opposite end to the ballroom to avoid noise, but that said I would return to the Invercarse Hotel.

"Fair Hotel."

Good customer service provided by staff. Access for disabled people good. Hotel room superb including wet room. Could recommend this hotel to anyone. Food excellent (hot plates for hot meals and cold plates for cold meal);

Attended an NHS course at the local hospital and the hotel is within 15 minutes walking distance and easy to find. so great if you don't want the hassle of parking or have no car and have never been to Dundee before. Parking was ample, price was reasonable at the hotel and the rooms were lovely and clean and staff were friendly and welcoming. Only disappointment for me was that i was out in a room with a disabled wet room so it was sore on my back having to bend so low to wash my face and brush my teeth. This has happened before in other hotels and was not a big enough deal to ask to change rooms as it was only 3 nights but something that is worth mentioning if you have similar issues.

We stayed here for one night to celebrate a family wedding. Checking in time was 2pm but they allowed us to check in at 12.30 which was great to chill before the wedding. Twin bedded room was clean but basic. The banquet room overlooked The Tay which is beautiful. Wedding meal was very good on hot plates. Good night sleep. Fantastic breakfast. Waiting staff were very friendly and polite.
