This could have been a great stay, but mechanical failures ruined it -- partially. The finishing touches of ruination came after the fact from management and its invitations to communicate that were purely disingenuous lip service. Guests are encouraged to email or call with any questions, comments or concerns. I did both, and never received a call back or a reply to any of my messages. My room had a fireplace, which was perfect for the chilly weather (chilly to a Floridian, anyway), but I never got to enjoy it. It malfunctioned the entire time and made me very uneasy, because it is a gas fireplace. It went on and off by itself the first night, including startling me awake by suddenly self-igniting at about 4 a.m., then going back off about ten minutes later. I wasn't going to call the desk about it then, but addressed it the next morning. Numerous visits to the room by various staff members (who were all very nice) over the next two days and nights failed to remedy the situation. When I returned from local sightseeing the third night, I was assured that it had been fixed, but it had not. It took three hours to get the busy desk clerk up to light the fire, but she could not get it to light, so we turned the system off for safety's sake. So, I got zero nights of the fireplace that I had looked forward to enjoying through the night, three nights in all, and in fact wound up with stress and countless calls and visits to the desk in its place. The fireplace was a significant part of my decision to book the room over one available elsewhere, so I felt strongly (still do) that some form of compensation is warranted. I even offered very reasonable suggestions for some little sign of good faith, but all were ignored in favor of rudeness and greed. After a few weeks, I passed on my complaints to Best Western corporate, was given a case number and a promise that someone in customer service management would get back to me, but that has not happened in more than a month in spite of multiple subsequent messages from me. I will never return to this establishment, and I strongly urge other travelers to avoid it, as well. I also am a Best Western Gold Rewards member who will no longer patronize Best Western establishments.
Lovely setting, pretty view, Beautiful view out the patio and outside area was clean and nice. BUT, i paid a premium for just an Ok bed, motel carpet needs updated, expensive room but smelled musty. Bathroom recently painted but sloppy drips all over the woodwork, cover plate to wall switches was cracked, prob not up to code. At least two power strips behind desk and bed, is this code? Entry into jet tub was sketchy to step into with no platform. Jet tub and TV had some weird On / off issues. Couldn't turn off tub from deck, had to use wall switch. New staff had not been trained on local park. Paid premium price for a dated, musty room.
Stayed here while visiting the Dunes. Arrived at 12:30 pm on Saturday, room not ready (no worries...check-in is at 3:00 pm). Went to grab lunch (went to Lucrezia Cafe....5 stars!) Came back about 2:30, room ready. Carried luggage inside and learned that **they do not have an elevator**. The staff upon arrival were very nice. Our room was on the 2nd floor, and unfortunately my knees aren't as good as they used to be. Made it upstairs (with great difficulty, and injured my knee), went into the room. Average room for a 2 star hotel, though they are decently large. Got a room with a king size bed and rollout, and a view of the lake. If you stay, the rooms facing the lake have a fantastic view. The balcony that looks over the lake was small, with two chairs, but it was quite enjoyable to sit out and watch the gulls and other birds. Bathroom was decent, but the bed left much to be desired (though this is a very subjective view based solely on my preferred softness of mattress). It was quite hard (but very clean) and made for a very difficult night's sleep. Breakfast in the hotel was standard fare for hotel hospitality breakfast: eggs, waffles, and sausage. Sausage wasn't bad, but the waffle batter they used was not very good (IMHO). In addition, my wife overheard several staff members disparaging another staff member on duty, which is never a good thing. While we plan on visiting the area again, we won't be staying at Best Western Indian Oak. The lack of elevators (which we missed in booking the hotel), beds, and breakfast selection outweigh the view of the small lake. There are several other hotels in the Dunes area, so we'll see if those are a better fit for our stay. Thanks for reading!
Hotel is nice but older could use some sprucing up. The location is good and the lake behind it offers a nice view. The swimming pool was a problem it was all murky and my kids wouldn't swim in it. Front desk staff were always very friendly and helpful. Breakfast room was small and they had both hot and cold items but other Best Westerns have more variety.
This two-star hotel delivers above its rating. Staff is super nice. It has an open and airy feeling. Rooms are huge with lakefront balcony views and super-comfortable beds. Very clean. Breakfast is the typical average hotel breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.
This hotel is not being maintained as it once was. We've stayed here in the past, and it was nice and clean. Although neat in appearance, the cleanliness that we have come to expect from this chain was not evident. The carpet was stained and furniture worn. We did not observe and insects as other reviews mentioned, and we were looking! Breakfast was sub-par. It is a shame to see a wonderful property go downhill like this. Good for an overnight stay if in the area, but we'd only stay here again if we had no other choices.
A comfortable overnight stop. Just a short distance to the "Third Coast" and the Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana Dune National Lakeshore. Easy access to the Indiana Toll Road and I-94. A variety of dining spots are nearby...some within walking distance.
My family traveled to the area for Sand Dunes National Park. It was a perfect location. The hotel was very nice and clean.
We can't wait to get back. This place and the staff are amazing. Exploring the area and NOT surprised at this BW experience. Great place to stay.
Whenever I have work in the region. Or whenever I am visiting in my hometown of Chesterton, in. I prefer to stay at the Best Western Indian Oak. I remember when it was built way back as a kid in high school. I have attended many events there. Weddings, reunions, parties, etc. since Leaving and moving down to Bloomington it has become my go to hotel when I'm back up for work or whatever event is happening. I stay there even when I'm scheduled to work in the Chicago area. It is just a comfortable place to lodge. I like the lake view and the pool is usually empty. The breakfast is always good and, of course, the rooms are well kept. I will continue to make it my home away from home.
Went to Indiana Dunes to do some birding. Hotel was well located, safe, clean. Bed was very comfortable and there was a variety of pillows and real cotton sheets (not sweaty microfiber sheets). A couple of dinner places are within walking distance. Not a luxury hotel, but very very acceptable. The breakfast room overlooks a lake.
This is an awesome hotel. I had a lake view room, but most rooms would have GREAT scenery. The pool and sauna were nice. The Wi-Fi worked well, the free breakfast was very good. You're very close to the dunes and the south shore rail line into Chicago.
The hotel room was very clean and organized. The check in process was quick. If I had any questions the front desk was very helpful and answered all of my questions that I had. There was no noises that came through the walls from the other guests.
Truly enjoyed my stay at the Best Western Indian Oak. Room was clean, private, quiet and dark at night so I was able to sleep. Excellent breakfast and relaxing lake views from the room. Location from Indiana State Dunes Park was so convenient as well!!
We were here for one night after an afternoon in the park. Worked out fine for what we needed. Reasonably priced. It's in a busy area, but set back off the road with the balcony facing to a lake, so pretty quiet. Breakfast was ok. I've had better at these kind of places, but I've also had worse. Clean for the most part, but we had to get a replacement sheet since it looked like there was a couple of dead bugs literally washed into the sheet. Weird, and a little hard to explain. But again, it was clean, and someone came up immediately with a replacement. Overall, perfectly fine stay for the area.
Although there were mixed reviews about this hotel, there were more positive reviews than negative reviews so we decided to book it. Breakfast was disappointing, no one there to service it and the food ran out at 7:50 a.m. Couldn't barely get the door open for the balcony and the chairs out there were broken. Broken tiles in bathroom, picture on wall was broken. It simply looked like no one cared about the place. We are totally ok with out dated rooms, as long as they are clean and well kept. This was neither!
This would be the hotel to stay in if you're visiting the National or State Park. This was the cleanest hotel for it being not brand spankin' new. Everything was in order, nothing was broken, ripped, forgotten and having a small lake to look at on the small deck while enjoy ingour coffee in the morning was really nice! There is a train in the distance so if you want a buffer to that sound, just ask for a room on the parking lot side of the hotel (no lake there though) ;) . The pool was clean, the staff was so so nice! The state and National Park is just 5-7 minutes away and you can walk to the convenience store if you need anything last minute. This is not a crazy high class, marble floor hotel, but a nice clean great for anybody to serve all hotel. It felt very comfortable and we'll be staying there again when we come back.
BW Chesterfield is a beautiful location on a lake. The hotel room was very clean and spacious. There were several breakfast options and the eating area was comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Perfect location to visit state and national park. It's definitely the closest chain hotel to the parks. Room was very spacious and the balcony lovely as it overlooks a lake. Easy walking to on-site parking. One note, the amtrack train is nearby and can be heard regularly yet muffled. That said, don't let it deter you from staying as the time you save getting to the park is worth it. Right by highway w easy access to restaurants too. Hotel is older but well maintained. Our room was clean Staff was friendly.
Enjoyed a good night's sleep here - quiet and comfortable bed. Enjoyed the sauna and pool. Lovely view of the little lake outside the hotel. Breakfast was modest. Weak coffee. Some places to eat nearby. Recommend the Indian restaurant.
This hotel is a little dated, but the setting on the lake is beautiful. We had a room overlooking the lake. Lots of birds and a turtle. Five minutes to the Indiana Dunes visitor center. Walking distance to many restaurants. Bed was very comfortable.
Wouldn't stay again. Convenient to the park but other than that, dated, dirty, smelly and that was just the lobby checking in. Hopes to at least enjoy the patio outside after our day at the park, but even that hasn't been cleaned or visited by hotel staff to check for bugs, spider webs or dirt.
Clean room, comfortable beds and good breakfast. The location was amazing and it was easy to access all of the amazing places to see around Michigan City. This was our first visit here, but we plan to bring the rest of our family another time.
The Indian Oak Best Western has been our hotel of choice during our many visits to Chesterton and Indiana Dunes Lakeshore over many years. The hotel is located near many great attractions and restuarants. Thanks to the staff for your great service!
My husband and I had been driving for 14 hours and completely exhausted. The front desk clerk was so welcoming. He made sure I had everything I needed and told me a little about the place which is quite beautiful I might add. They have a little lake in the back. Loved having my morning coffee next to it. The beds were comfortable and the room was very clean
The staff we interacted with did a great job. The location of the hotel is very enjoyable. The lake it is on is beautiful and relaxing. The cleanliness and overall state of disrepair the building and room were in was dissappointing. The room smelled very musty. The air conditioner had mold on it and was packed full of dust. There were piles of dirt on the bathroom floor in the corners and behind the door. The curtains and lamp shades were stained. The furniture wasn't broken but definitely worn. Many parts of the building inside and out were broken and need attention. It seems whoever owns this place is either in over their head or doesn't have the money to keep the place up. We stayed two nights, it was a relatively pleasant stay for the price.
WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER !!!!!!! Amanda the manager is so greedy that she refused to refund the $30 dollars (30000 BW points). the more I talked to her the worst she was. said this review cost her money even if I changed it. Tried to explain I am 65 disabled and can not drive at night, and would ever leave somewhere at night. In fact I got stuck in a yard trying to see my relatives driveway. and she said well you do not know my age. Refused to settle this with me at ALL The wifi was 1 mbs normal is 50-100 mbs. when i sat on the bed to call , I sunk so far into the old worn out mattress I had a hard time getting out. they would not do any thing about it either, said they could not call the manager, but when i said I am leaving now after 3 hrs they called the manager and the manager would not refund my money so i left anyway . then they lied and said I was at the pool with grandkids, I am here by myself for a family funeral. and did not use the pool at all. and never got a refund from corporate either, they are just as greedy. I now have to go through the BBB and the Indiana states attorneys office just to try to get my 30 dolars in bw points returned to me.
When you first walk in, the lobby is beautiful, clean, and modern. Get to your room, and not as nice. Things really need some TLC. The curtains covering the patio door were absolutely disgusting. Walked up and down back pathway, and all were in bad shape. They were dirty, water stained, and torn. I mentioned it to the front desk, and they said they were scheduled to be replaced. The beds were decent and it was a nice view. The bathroom could really use some updates. We could barely use the plug. It was cracked and the prongs would hardly stay in. You had to jiggle the plug around to make it work. The pool is very large, but you have to get towels at the front desk, and they are really small. The breakfast was adequate. There was 1 waffle maker, but there was a couple of families with lots of kids, and it was almost impossible to make a waffle while they were there. There are no pastries, just some store bought muffins and no bagles and cream cheese. There were scrambled eggs and sausage, cereals, packaged oatmeal, bananas, and apples. With some good old fashioned repairs, updates and thorough cleaning, this could be a really nice hotel.
Wow! What an unexpected pleasure. We reserved a room because of the location which is close to the local State and National Parks as we made our way back home from Yellowstone. We were greeted and assisted by great front desk personnel and both the day and evening staff were equally amazing. We opened our door to our room and a wonderful lake view greeted us through sliding glass doors to our own patio. It reminded my wife and I of the view of Lake Superior that greeted us when we opened the door to our room on Isle Royale National Park with the water at our doorstep. Rooms were huge and location perfect for visiting the State and National Parks on Lake Michigan in Indiana.
This hotel was convenient for what we needed it for. It could use updating. The pool area was nice and large. The rooms on the 1st floor with the patios were great. All of the geese roaming the property were disgusting as well as the pigeons that continued to fly overhead.
We were in town for my sons Travel ball tournament, the hotel stay was more pleasant than most we've stayed at! The staff was very friendly and accommodating, rooms were very clean, pool area was nice! Located in a nice area too!
We found our experience here to be a good one overall. The front desk agents were all very friendly. Our room was clean, with a comfortable bed and a nice view of a small lake. The breakfast each morning was pretty good and the attendant was great at keeping the area clean and stocked. There was plenty of parking every time we came back to the hotel. We also found this to be a good central base for exploring the Indiana Dunes National Park. The only negative I'll mention is that there is no elevator if you're staying on the 2nd floor. If you aren't comfortable with stairs, especially with luggage, I'd recommend ensuring you book a first floor room.
Stayed here for a visit to the national park. It is a clean hotel, with a personable staff. We were able to easily check in and get to our room. The AC in the room was not great, but did cool the room down. The room was clean and served our purposes for the night. The room was advertised as having a lake view, but as you can see from the pic, there is a large bush or tree in the way of the view. Breakfast was ok, but I would avoid the eggs. Overall, ok experience but a bit over priced.
The staff was very friendly and the room was clean and quiet. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was good. Everything was as it should be. I don't have anything else to say as we did not use anything else at hotel.
We stayed the night for a nearby wedding. Room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was starting to show its age, but everything worked and it was clean. The screen door on our balcony was off the track, but it was a cold November weekend, so not like we were using it. We would stay again.
Nice hotel. Easy check in. No elevators. Great breakfast. Staff is always friendly. I have stayed here multiple times and never been disappointed. Great amenities. Area has everything for food and services.,
Rooms not clean, crickets in room, worker said “Yeah they can be a problem.” Requested different room, not very clean, smelled bad. Paid full price, not worth it. Wont be back. Check in lady was very nice though.
The air conditioner wasn't working properly. The room smelled old and musky. The screen door was always falling off the track. Breakfast on the weekend should be later not from 6am-9am. The only good thing was the room was roomy.
Outstanding price, service, breakfast, room size, location, and lake view! One of the best hotel values I've experienced in four decades of traveling. Well equipped room with good water pressure. Good access to parks (HIGHLY recommend State Park versus the National park).
Awesome location. Right down the road from a few parks to go on walks after work. Also down the road from the dunes. Staff is great. Lots of food choices within walking distance as well as a short drive for even more.
Older property but we'll kept. Large rooms. We had a pond view and small balcony which was nice. Breakfast was decent. Staff was friendly. Be aware there is no elevator to second floor rooms. Overall a good experience.
No mention online or during booking at the facility is not handicap accessible, when asking them what we can do, the members of my handicapped family were laughed at and told no best western is accommodating and in the future to not be handicapped.
The staff were great. The cost of the room was $250+, therefore I had higher expectations for the room and breakfast. If they are going to charge that price they need to step up their game considerably.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The carpet was long overdue for deep cleaning. With 5 people sharing a room, I would prefer housekeeping services without the need to request them. The toilet paper was the worst I've ever experienced!
Overpriced., 200 hundred per night was too much. Stayed two nights as far as I am concerned the little 400 hundred charge was too much. The chairs and sofa in lobby needs replacing. The ceiling shoes sides of water damage and should be properly repaired. Staff cannot and should not attempt.
Came out to northwest IN to catch up with a friend and found this hotel to be fairly comfortable and quiet. One side of the hotel has a pretty outlook over a large pond. The breakfast options were limited but all quite edible.
If you have a complaint and you ask for help to fix your problem, complain all you want, but there will be no SERVICE! The only thing you will get from the staff is an apology and that's it. For me to stay at this motel it would have to be no other accommodations available within the area I need to stay.
We were traveling across the USA on a road trip… we had been staying at non BW, my friends were impressed with the value of BW… we had fun in the pool and sauna… the breakfast was good with the normal selection of eggs, sausage and the waffle maker
I decided to give this Best Western a try during a recent business visit to the area. Being from Canada, I had booked an early Pre-Flight PCR test in nearby Valparaiso for the next day and wanted to be close to the lab and close to my next business visit later in the morning. I checked Tripadvisor and saw that this hotel had relatively good reviews and decided to book it through the Best Western Website. Low and behold the rates were very good that night and so I booked it. Upon arrival, the parking lot had ample parking and I was able to park close to the entrance. I checked in and a very friendly person at the front desk offered me a Lakeside room, so I took it. The front lobby and the rest of the hotel is a bit dated and could use an upgrade, but overall it was clean and inviting. My room was located on the second floor and had a balcony overlooking Chubb Lake, a small natural lake behind the hotel. The room was rather large and looked larger due to the room being sparsely furnished. It had a bed, a tv cabinet/dresser, a desk and a small couch beside the bed. The room was large enough to roll out a yoga mat or have small children play in the room. The TV cabinet/dresser contained a TV, microwave and a mini-fridge. The bed was newer, clean and was very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and very clean. The room lacked the modern touches of USB ports and multiple outlets, but connection to the wifi was easy and the wifi signal was strong. I was able to connect through a corporate VPN and stream Netflix while on a WhatsApp with family. The Fitness Center is located on the main floor. The machines insdie are older and smoe weren't even plugged in. Only the treadmill was working durung my visit. I had to wait for another person to finish using it, and had to wipe it down my self. The TV either A. didn't work or B. wasn't pludded in. The Univiersal was an older machine, lacking attachements, but did the job. This is not a state of the art fitness center but okay for one or two nights. Often when I'm travelling and the hotels fitness center is subpar, I drop into a local crossfit or gym for a good workout. Hopefully sometime in the future they upgrade their fitness center and equipment. There is a nice view of the lake from the blacony. The balcony itself wasn't very big, but is was okay for someone just catch a nice view of the lake. Watch out for the spiderwebs on the balcony as I had a few during my stay, with spiders in them. In the morning they were handing out breakfast burritos and takeaway bags as the dining was closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. My only disppointment was when I checked out no one was there to give me a burrito. I had to go so I can't comment on breakfast. Overall this a good value hotel, with a great location as it is close to the dunes and highways. The hotel is a bit dated and could use a modernizing to capture more business travellers, and to accomodate travellers with smart phones and tablets.
My friends and I stayed at the Best Western for a girl's weekend. The hotel was clean, breakfast was OK (a bread option would have been nice; but the coffee tasted great!,) and the view of the little lake was beautiful. I'm really writing to say that Amanda (worked front desk Friday night and checked us out Sh day morning,) was amazing. Friendly, good sense of humor, and overall took great care of us. Overall, a great stay!
The front desk staff was very disrespectful and lied to me about available rooms. I checked availability soon as I got to my room and they were available. When followed up by BW representative, the desk staff lied to them also.
I stayed at this hotel for a visit to Indiana Dunes. It is a great location with many restaurants nearby and it is very close to the national park. There is a pretty little body of water behind the property if you are fortunate enough to get a room with that view (just ask). My room was well equipped, and I had an uneventful/restful stay. The front desk attendant when I checked in was very friendly and helpful. The one working in the morning when I checked out was rude and disinterested in being helpful. Nonetheless, I would stay here again on future visits to the area.
We had a room overlooking a small lake. I was scenic and peaceful. We payed extra for the hot tub suite. The hot tub worked very well. Everything in the bathroom worked well. The bed is very hard. The pillows on the bed were extremely old and stunk. We asked for new pillows. We received the same type of old pillows that didn't smell quite as bad. The breakfast here is not worth eating. There is a Dunkin Doughnut across the street. Just go there.
We stayed in a ground-level, waterfront room that slept six with a pull-out sofa bed for 2 nights. The room included a mini fridge and microwave, as well as a coffee maker and hairdryer. We had everything we needed, the room & indoor pool were clean, and the staff was friendly.
Was very please with our stay even though you were close to a busy road and strip mall it look like you were in the wood. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean. Also just a short drive to the dunes.
This is the second time I've stayed at BW Indiana Oak. It's close to the Dunes state and national parks, so convenient. It's consistent BW quality and cleanliness of the room. Still disappointed with breakfast offerings during the pandemic--they could step it up a little. Otherwise, good experience here.
This is an older hotel on a lake in a strip mall area. We chose it for proximity to the national park. Lake view rooms are nice, but the outside area is s bit odd. There are chairs to sit and enjoy the view, but it's very rocky and narrow. The rooms are a good size. Breakfast was yogurt and bananas. Quite a few restaurants in the area.
Hotel has a lot to offer unless you run into a problem requiring a manager. Our initial room had cleaning problems (clothing/underwear from previous guest remained) so we reported it. Manager was consulted. We were told only one other room was available and it did not have a king bed nor a view like our other room. We accepted it due to a holiday weekend but expected a discount - none given because the new room had a whirlpool we didn't want. We later found out there were rooms still available which means we were lied to.
Call ahead for truck parking since the lot is being worked on. I thought it had a 70's vibe to it, in a GOOD way! Our room was spacious, very clean & everything you could possibly need. Every room has a balcony as well. The women the front desk at check-in & out were both extremely professional & kind. Good beds & bedding, quiet respectful guests made for a great nights sleep. We will definitely stay again if ever in the area.
We were traveling to the Grandest Bass Tournament of them all... BPS Open St. Claire, MI! Dad being 89 needed to be as comfortable at sleeping time as possible. Best Western stays fit the bill for us and will for you too!
The hotel did have a lot of amenities- pool, laundry, business office, small lake, breakfast etc. However the rooms were not very clean and neither was the pool. The staff was friendly. They need to keep up better with the pool cleaning and housekeeping needs to be more thorough.
By far this was the best experience I have had at a Best Western. The staff was incredible. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was the best possible. It was so great to have my own walkout onto a private little patio overlooking the little lake. Very relaxing and peacefully quiet!
Hot Tub room was smelly like mildew and the bed was very lump and uncomfortable. We hardly slept. The view we had was of a pile of rocks, from construction they are doing in the parking lot. We saw across the hall that the other side of the hotel had a beautiful lake view and we felt jealous of that, but I'm sure the beds on that side of the hotel are just as lump and bad. The bathroom toilet/toilet paper set up is ridiculous - you have to hyperextend your left arm behind you, if you want to reach it!! Very Disappointing stay. Oh! And even tho all restaurants are fully open again, BW is still using COVID as an excuse to give cheap snacks as "Full Breakfast." No hot foods and if you want some things, you can't get them yourself because the fridge is behind the check in counter.
Very close to Indiana Dunes and to several very good restaurants. Bathrooms and beds were Best Western very good standard. Our room faced a pond which was a bonus. However, breakfast was very limited: no breads at all, just a packaged muffin and coffee that I could have made in my room. WiFi was the worst that I have experienced in recent past.
Recently stayed here with my family that included 3 adults. Booked the room through Priceline, mostly for the location. Within maximum 20 minutes to any beach including Michigan cities and Gary. Easy access from the interstate, check in was easy, room was clean (2nd floor balcony facing Chubb lake) beautiful mornings and evenings. Breakfast was oatmeal bars, muffins, and yogurt due to (covid 19 restrictions). Several locations for breakfast within walking distance or you can drive to downtown Chesterton (5 minutes). My only recommendation for this hotel is it needs a larger parking lot. There are 3 entry ways to enter to the building and many people who were staying would block the doors so they would not have to walk as far due to luggage kids etc. if you are in a smaller car it is easier to maneuver but being in a large truck you cannot turn as easy. There is also many people staying here (which is a good thing) but it does making the parking situation hectic again for larger vehicles, if you have a smaller car you will have no issues. Several reviews speak of the cleanliness of the room ours was adequate but I did wipe down the bathroom counter, door handles, fridge. These are heavy touched items, and I do this in most motels (so no way reflects poorly on the BW motel.) Housekeeping does not clean everyday you have to go to the front desk to request your room be cleaned (not sure if that is because covid restrictions or lack of workers both?) Overall I would choose this motel to stay again. They were upfront and honest about exactly what they were offering. Pool is available but we spent so much time at the beach we did not use the pool. If your looking for good location and price this is definitely the place.
We were disappointed with our BW experience. We upgraded changed from a hotel next door to this BW because of the name. They were very similar properties, but the BW room price was $50 more per night. :-(
The room smelled of cigarette smoke upon entrance. It was a non smoking room. There was hair inside the tub and jets on the jacuzzi. There was a sticker from the last customers bathing suit stuck to the tub which confirmed my suspicion that it hadn't even been cleaned. I reported this to the front desk and they transferred us to a different room. This room also smelled but we came to the conclusion it was an old musty smell instead of smoke. There was still hair in the shower and tub, and dust was hanging from the ceiling. The faucets were corroded and everything was old. We could hear the people in the room adjacent to ours using the jets on their jacuzzi tub. Minutes following that nasty water began coming up the drain into our jacuzzi. Even after plugging the drain water still seeped into our tub along with hunks of nasty stuff. I will never stay here again. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
I was disappointed that the whirlpool in the room was low end, with just an on/off button for the jets. The decor was odd, but in good condition. The room was nice, but not worth the premium I paid for a special room. Breakfast was very limited. If you are going to stay here, there are some great local restaurants.
Amanda, the front desk manager, was simply amazing. She was very attentive to her guests needs. Any time she saw us, she asked how our stay was, and if we needed anything, and always had a smile that made us feel welcome. The hotel itself was beautiful, with a fabulous view of the lake and the surrounding trees. . . . Very much love the carpet, kinda want to steal it for my home, lol! If you stay here, pay the little extra for the lakeside view, it is well worth it. Grab a cup of coffee and sit on the balcony (or patio) attached to your room. Extremely peaceful, relaxing and rejuvenating. Did not really have a chance to interact with any other staff members, but from what I could see, they all had smiles and seem to enjoy their jobs. There was an instance with another guest (Karen) who seemed like she show up just to use the pool and a few of the amenities and just wanted to complain about anything and everything, (buyers remorse). The staff handled it perfectly, with poise and professionalism. Please Stay Here, you will very much enjoy it!!!!!!
The room was dusty, dirty, stains on the chairs, urine stains on mattress, the bathroom was dirty with pee and hairs in toilet, crumbs and straws in the beds, even the phone was filthy. When I asked for clean bedding the lady brought it and gave it to me to out in myself and there was no staff to clean the room. I called to ask for mattress protector and was told there was a line they'd get to it when they can. I asked for a refund and we left. They said we could get refund but only refunded one day. I am still trying to speak with a manager. Worst hotel experience I have ever had.
Pay a little extra for the lakeside view. You will be pleasantly greeted by the serene sights and sounds of the lake. Geese, seagulls, turtles, deer. Cleanliness could definitely be improved. Due to COVID the breakfast is more like a snack. But, Sunrise Family Restaurant is right down the road for ALL of your breakfast needs.
Travelling with a large expensive truck I need a motel where in can park my truck and not be worried about it. When I book at best western I have pease of mind that my truck is safe and direction to good local restaurants , the staff is friendly and helpful
BW Indian Oak is a very clean revitalized environment. Stayed two night with no issue. Did not use the pool but it looked very inviting. Was pleasantly surprised as I have never spent a night here previously. Will definitely consider in the future.
The room was clearly not inspected. There was a huge beachball sized stain on the bedding that went all the way to the bottom sheet. There were washcloths stuffed in the vents, the bathtub was dirty, there was something dripping down the wall. The ice bucket had either ketchup or blood on it. There was hair on the toilet. It was a gross room.
Booked a hot tub suite, other than a red wine stain on the floor everything seemed okay. The main problem is that our room for $162 a night was ground floor and backed onto the parking lot. We heard some commotion outside and saw a few people standing around a bed of a truck wearing full camouflage and appeared to be putting meat bags. Now given the recent breech at the US Capitol, my wife did not feel safe and we decided to leave and stay somewhere else. I'm sure it was just hunters splitting a deer or something but again not something that you want right outside the sliding door to your room. If you stay here I would give the ground floor rooms that have sliding doors onto the parking lot a miss. If they are full then similar accommodations are available at the other hotel on the lake. Why did we leave and not complain? It is not our job to be the “world police”. I felt that my wife was maybe being a bit over sensitive but I respect her feelings and so wanted to fix everything in the least bothersome and combative way. I'm also not sure switching rooms at that point would have made her feel any more safe and relaxed. I think moving location was the best choice. Probably not for my wallet but you can't put a price on feeling safe. I would say that since the parking lot is somewhat secluded in portion, security cameras be installed to detect unusual activity so that the hotel can investigate unusual goings-on. Just in addition this was the first hotel I have stayed at that seemed unable to assign British Airways Avios as my chosen reward at the front desk. I was directed to call the 1-800 number and talk to customer service that I will never get around to. British Airways Executive Club is shown as a Best Western partner on the Best Western website. Not sure why I had to call? Would have thought if front desk did not know how to do something that they would have a support number to call?
4000 of my points are showing used when they were not!! I guess I will find a company that can apply rewards correctly. It's not the money, it's the fact that BW will not fix my complaint! Tired of companies that will not fix their mistakes!
I enjoyed my stay, the place was clean. I enjoyed the lakeside view as well as the hot tub. I would recommend the lakeside view with hot tub. I plan on visiting again. They use to have a spa where you could get a great massage, Manicure, pedicure and facials.
The accommodations were OK, but the room had a terrible smell. It was moldy and dirty smelling. The beds felt damp when we got in them because it was so moist in the room. We realized the smell was probably partly because of all the goose poop that had likely been tracked inside from the patio area overlooking the lake. It was like a moldy/pet shop smell that really hit you when you walked in. Would not recommend.
We liked the lake view and jacuzzi tub in the room a lot! Service was average. Room was pretty much what you would expect from a 2 star hotel, for example: linens and room could've been cleaner (sheet had a big ripped hole in it, couple stains on the sheets and comforter) , stains on the ceiling from water leaks, volume didn't work on some channels on the TV. "Breakfast" was a water bottle, muffin and chewy bar in a paper bag (due to COVID, but come on put some more effort in). Overall, the stay was fine and perfect location to the dunes! Also, they allowed a late checkout for us, which was nice.
We were visiting Indiana Dunes State Park and wanted to stay close so this hotel was less than 2 miles away. Not really familiar with the Best Western Brand the place had been updated and the rooms were actually nice. When we arrived I had made a mistake and booked Sat/Sun instead of Fri/Sat but the lady was able to get the Friday night and walked me through how to cancel Sunday. Since it was booked through AARP I had to call expedia who then had to call the front desk. Anyway it all worked. I paired extra and got the King room with the pull out sofa, it had a mwo, larger frig, a fireplace and a view of the lake/swamp. The bedding was comfortable and the room was clean. Just be prepared for Canadian Geese to be honking non stop but with the sliding door shut to the patio you don't hear them. Also there is train horn/signal like every 15 minutes but over time you don't notice. Great location for walking to restaurants that are close. Though I am a bit of an accommodation snob, I would stay here again.
Stayed here for 2 days to visit the dunes. Great location, close to the dunes with several restaurant within walking distance. Hotel was clean a!d comfortable in this time of COVID. We felt very safe here.
Went with my wife to check out Indiana Dunes and catch up with an Army buddy. Had previously booked an adjacent hotel, but my booking was for a room with Double Beds and I wanted a larger bed, so I rebooked this hotel. I checked some of the reviews before arriving and was pleased with what I saw. One of the complaints that I had seen was people bring up trains nearby. It was a day into our stay when I heard my first train. We live a mile away from a railway line, so perhaps I have grown accustomed to them. But the sound was minimal to me. The worst thing that I can say about our stay was the tub drain was a little slow. Lol. That was about it, and that is pretty petty. So it wasn't an issue to us. The people staying right above us on the second floor must have had kids because we could hear them occasionally going across the floor, but having had a child ourselves (now grown), again it didn't bother us. So that being said, here is what I found when we arrived... An easy check-in and a clean and conveniently placed hotel. Chubb Lake out the back is a nice place to chill when you want to. There are a plethora of eating establishments within walking distance, and Indiana Dunes Park is a very short drive away. We also hit the Outlet Stores in Michigan City as well as Washington Street Beach there. Those are about a 20 minute drive from the hotel. We went to Porter Beach to watch the sunset Friday and Washington Beach on Saturday. The difference in the two beaches are Porter is a nice beach for relatively quiet relaxation without alcohol. And Washinton Park Beach is much more lively and allows adult beverages (no glass). Both beaches were very nice and clean. My wife and I found the Best Western Indian Oak to be a great place to stay during our trip and will certainly return.
I picked this place because it had decent reviews and the location is good. There is 2 floors and no elevator at all. Place needs a complete remodel and they need to learn how to clean. The room smelled and the bathroom had not been cleaned. We left and went elsewhere.
Where to start ? Front desk staff was difficult and slow. No repair person on duty for broken bathtub stopper. Lots of stains on old stairs carpeting. No elevator. Very LOUD train whistles all night long (this hotel must be on the main track to Chicago.) If you want fresh air at night, there are NO windows. The ONLY option is opening the sliding door, posing a security risk even on the second level as balconies are attached & only semi-private. Grab 'n Go breakfast is a high carbohydrate nightmare of white flour and sugar,: a muffin + granola bar with nothing unprocessed, real or fresh like an apple and a hard boiled egg. Very little natural fiber content in the bedding, it's mostly all polyester. Please, you CAN do better !
Rooms were fine for the money. Room had an odor, but we left our balcony door open while we went out for dinner, therefore it aired out just fine. Thin or not well insulated walls. Could hear everyone and everything!!!
We went there to rest. The hotel common areas and our room was clean and comfortable. We had a room with a great view to the lake. The price was excellent. Free breakfast was a plus. The pool area was clean, but may need some TLC. I will definitely go back.
This facility has great decor, fantastic view, and friendly staff! Didn have a chance to try out the pool or the sauna, but spoke 5o other guest who did enjoy it! Honestly, my favorite part was the balconey! Wake up, and enjoy a cup of coffee with a view!
This was our first trip back to my hometown without any family still there to stay with. This hotel felt a lot like staying in a family home -- welcoming, friendly and helpful. If we pass through again, this is definitely where we'll stay.
We were very pleased with our stay! The lady at the front desk with very nice and helpful. The hotel and rooms was very clean. We had a great view of the water from our room. Loved we were able to walk outside from our room. The breakfast was decent just regular hotel breakfast.
I came for the night to get away from the noise of the construction at home. I loved so much I stayed an extra night. Luke, at the front desk, was very helpful and courteous. when I stepped out on the balcony for a breather the view was amazing. I'll definitely be going back soon
The lakeview in the fall was breathtaking. Staff was hardly present at the desk and you could tell she didn't want to be there. The bed was terribly hard but at least I had a jacuzzi sweet to soak when I was sore from it.
Clean and quiet facility with great rates. Perfect for staying between our adventures at the Indiana Dunes park and Chicago trip. We will definitely stay there again. It is located far back in shopping complex.
Great Value for Amenities. Great lobby as you enter. Clean and well decorated. Room was clean and had great decor that fit with the area (dunes). Breakfast was included, so the value was the best for such a nice room and breakfast each morning!
This property is located very close to a very busy rail road. A train is passing about every 15 minutes sounding the horn at a number of crossings sounding the horn repeatedly. Sleep is interrupted through the night. I would not stay here again.
Title says it all. Loved how close we were to the state park as well as the train station. Great food options in the area as well. My son loved the pool. Breakfast was great, although not many options for those with food allergies. I can't knock the hotel for that though.
I read the reviews here and thought it would be a nice place to stay while I visit Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan. I checked in and the young man at the desk told me that the room I paid for was occupied but that there was an identical room on the second floor. I said that was fine and proceeded with check-in. At that time he let me know that there was no elevator and I am handicapped. This was quite disappointing and I didn't think that a hotel existed in the United States with more than one floor and no elevator. He offered to bring up my luggage and that was great but I still have to go up and down the stairs several times. The original room that I had booked is on the first floor, the breakfast room is on the first floor, the bar is on the first floor and the pool is on the first floor. The room that I got was quite dirty so I cleaned it. It also has bugs of some kind that I just keep throwing outside. I did take pictures so that you can see them. I will update this post after I try the pool, breakfast and maybe the bar.
We stayed one night at this Best Western for a wedding in Indiana. It is a very nice hotel on a little lake. We had a lake view and it was beautiful. Check-in was very easy and staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was good, typical type of continental breakfast. Overall we would stay at this hotel again!
This was a real nice hotel, though it is a bit difficult to find, since it is located behind a series of stores and another hotel. We had room on the back and had a view of the lake behind the hotel. The lobby is very nice and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was 2 queen mini suite and was very nice and spacious. as was the bathroom. The hotel had a very nice pool and the whole place seemed like it was recently renovated, though I never asked. The breakfast was ok and the area was spacious. It is located near the interstate and a very short drive to Indiana Dunes NP and State Park. Also, stores and restaurants are nearby. Definitely would recommend this hotel. Our room came in under $90.
We've been staying here for about 10 years, 2-3 times a year. Always friendly, clean and well run. They've done a lot of work and it shows, nice place and a good value. Always a pleasure to stay here and always treated very well.
Lucas, Neal, Christina were great!!! Love the patio lake view. Stayed on first floor, no elevator. Breakfast ok, bathrooms needs updating. Loved the Indiana dunes. Suppose to be a heated Pool but chilly.
The lady working at check-in lacked the skills of customer service. Not friendly, wearing a torn shirt. Lacked knowledge of area restaurants. We came back from dinner and she was outside on her cell phone with a lady waiting at the front desk. The bathroom in our room looked like a rushed/slop job of remodel. The "bar" only had cooler beer/wine bottle/cans and way to expensive even with a coupon for 1/2 off 1 drink. Didn't bother to eat breakfast there since it so crowded and very warm in the room.
My family stayed here after a wedding reception. A couple of them went down to the bar and found out drinks cost $6 a piece. Ya... No thanks. In the morning we went down for breakfast and opted out of that as well since there was not enough tables. Definitely not with the price.
Staff is terrible. Missed our check-in time and then was rude to us about it. Could have been one bad employee, but it was a bad experience. The room is fine, and what you'd expect. Stay somewhere else if priced close enough.
After experiencing issues at another hotel, we were checked in quickly and given a wonderful room on the water. The room was clean, breakfast was great, and the experience was wonderful! We will be using our rewards and staying here again!
BW Indian Oak is a former resort on a small lake a bit off the main highway, so it's quiet, especially on the side facing the lake. There are nice (small) covered balconies with door walls. Our room was quite spacious with a king bed and sofa, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and bathroom with large granite counter space. The price was well under a hundred dollars for the Thursday night in mid September and that included an adequate bfst. Waffles, sausages, cereals, yougurt. Not good were the (powdered?) eggs and the lack of fruit besides bananas. The only room complaints are my usual ones about the in-room HVAC unit being ok when it's on, but NO option to keep the fan running and the air MOVING once the room reaches the desired temp. Conversely, the bathroom fan always goes on with the light whether needed or not and it it noisy. Anyway these are peeves. The room and the stay were otherwise very nice and convenient to IN Dunes National and State Parks.
Room smelled of urine and mold. Curtains were covered in black mold. Bathroom had human waste running down wall. Sink and tub were moldy. VERY LOUD TRAIN HORNS AT ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT. Very poor manager.
A decent place to stay. No major problems except that there is no elevator to the second floor, which makes it difficult carrying luggage upstairs and for people who don't do stairs well. Breakfast food was abundant though not high quality
Went to the Indiana Dunes with a friend and wanted to stay close to the beach. This hotel was quiet and close to the beach and best of all it is very affordable. There is lots of fast food options close by and a Walgreens pharmacy next door. I would stay here again. Beds were comfortable.
Overall we had a good stay. The breakfast was a good variety, rooms were clean, and up to date. The pool, could use some work, but again overall was good. The fitness room, had only 3 pieces of equipment, but was good. There was a dry sauna in the pool room, a little small but good.
This hotel is in a nice location close to the National Park. It has a picturesque lake and balconies overlooking it. The breakfast is average hotel fare with waffles, eggs, toast and the like. It was hot, fresh and tasty. Some things to know about this hotel: there is no elevator so book on the first floor. Also, we stayed here for two nights, they didn't clean our room on the second day. They only removed the dirty towels with no replacements. When I asked about this, I was told that they had to do the reservations rooms first. Since I was paying for both nights, I expected that I should receive all my services. The front desk was condescending and clearly not willing to address the issue. She grudgingly got us a set of replacement towels. The hair dryer in the room was broken. The front desk said they would send maintenance to replace it but since she didn't even ask for our room number, I suppose I'll be leaving with frizzy hair tomorrow. This hotel is ok if you are staying one night and don't expect too much in the way of service.
This is a lovely BW, comfy rooms, great wi-fi and a fabulous breakfast! There is everything you can imagine, waffles with fruit and whip cream, oatmeal with a variety of items to put in it, pancakes (yes they had both waffles AND pancakes), fruit, eggs, breakfast meat, toast, so much more than most breakfast offerings! And the breakfast room is spacious and light so you easily find a place to sit and enjoy your breakfast. We will definitely be staying there again when we are near Chesterton!
The hotel personnel was kind and helpful. Rooms were clean and well-kept. Breakfast provided warm and cold options, The dining area, pool and patio overlook a small lake. Our room had a very nice two-person hot-tub. The hotel is located a couple of miles from Indiana Dunes State Park.
The customer service was wonderful even prior to our arrival. I call inquiring about a "senior citizen" discount. A discount was smoothly and politely applied. The check in process was smooth an pleasant. We loved the room and honestly wished that we could stay longer that the one night!
Pool was ok, however, the liner was pulled away from the edge where the steps were. Standard continental breakfast, really basic. The plus is it is closest hotel to the Dunes, with many surrounding restaurants. We enjoyed the short drive to the Dunes each day.
Lodging around Indiana Dunes National Park can be expensive. This place is clean, has a nice pool, a full breakfast, and is less than three miles from the entrances to both the National and the State Park.
Clean, well maintained establishment. Competent friendly staff. Would stay here again. Breakfast was diverse and well stocked. Central to all we wanted to do it really made our family get away even better.
Rooms were very big, nice, clean and friendly staff. Parking lot a little tight to get around in but the hotel is right off of interstate. On a lake so nice patio. We would stay again. Good place for the price
We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room had a balcony overlooking a small lake. It was a lovely view and a great place to enjoy my morning coffee. The beds were comfy, the room was clean, and the staff was fantastic. The location near the dunes and just an hour outside of Chicago was perfect for us.
Only one staff member working while expecting a wedding party of 40 rooms - "manager" shows up in flip flops and shorts while refusing to state his name. Outside temp was 80 degree's and inside the hotel common area's felt to be the same!
We really enjoyed our stay. It was a lovely hotel. Great light. Balconies and patios for every room. The room was extremely clean and a good size. They were very accommodating to let our group use the breakfast room for a group dinner. The pool was warm, fun and a good size, lots of natural lighting. The only drawback to the pool for people with little kids is that it is between 4-1/2 and 5-1/2 feet deep. There isn't a shallow end. We loved our stay and would definitely like to return. It was a more than we'd usually spend, but it was a short drive to the beach which was really great.
Lovely place!! Sits on a lake and view is awesome!! Rooms were very spacious and comfortable!! Staff were very nice upon arriving and checking out the next morning!! Would make a return trip as am sure other sites to see but unfortunately we were just passing through!!!
We have stayed here before....several years ago. There It is situated well off the main road and on a pretty little lake. The rooms are clean, though the bathroom floor could use a good scrubbing. The air conditioning/heating units are quiet, a real plus for a good nights sleep. The mattresses are a little on the soft side. The breakfast was just so-so, the third morning we found a nice little diner and had a good breakfast.. The staff was really nice except the gal that checked us in. No greeting, no eye contact, no smile, SOUR attitude and would not change our room from a double to a queen (were willing to pay the difference) because "it was not what I had booked online". Not worth the hassle to me, so we took what we got and it was fine. Prob won't stay here again. I did tell the Manager of her attitude. NO ELEVATOR so book a first floor room if you don't/can't deal with getting your things up the stairs.
Very close to Indiana Dunes National Park; nice room, and helpful staff. Front desk helped with weather predictions, restaurant ideas; and even computer issues for flight boarding passes. Very friendly and cheerful.
My husband is a light sleeper and I'm not so if ur a light sleeper do not stay here. He was woke up every 30 minutes by a train horn. It even woke me up twice. Otherwise the place was wonderful. Great location. Its behind a little mini mall with dairy queen and Walgreens in walking distance
The whirlpool was dirty. And I had to wait to check in was to long. They were no accommodating when we checked out and thought we left a cell phone in the room.we stay there for our daughters wedding.the eating area was very dirty as well
This hotel is adorable, the beds and pillows are comfortable, amenities were lovely. The lakefront views were beautiful. And for the price, you cannot beat this place. We stayed as a stop on a long drive and it was one of the best places I've ever stayed.
No issues with our stay. Room was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was typical. Facility was not crowded on the night we stayed. Quiet and comfortable. Only issue was TV without a channel guide to help find shows we wanted to watch.
The lobby was very clean upon arrival. The front desk employees were very professional and courteous! Room was quite large with a relaxing view of the lake. It was a refreshing stay! The breakfast was hot, ready, and tasty!
We have visited this hotel twice, we love its location to downtown and access to Indiana Dunes. We will be visiting again soon and bringing the family with us. Staff are generally friendly and hotel is clean.
We chose this location for its proximity to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and it worked well for this purpose. The room was clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast area overlooked a small lake as did many rooms. Unfortunately ours did not but it was quiet and on the first floor. Breakfast was ok and included in the price. The roofs were being repaired or replaced while we were there which was a distraction.
Our room was beautiful. We stayed lake side which was beautiful. The staff was great. The only downside is the train horns that are blowing all night long. If your not a light sleeper or are used to train noise then it is a great clean place to stay
We went, mainly, to get away for an anniversary weekend, No. 44, which occurred the previous Thursday, partly because we had a gift card for Four Winds Casino and we wanted to have a cheap date/anniversary meal and Chesterton was relatively close (but outside of our home state). Found out from a train-watching friend about the rail lines that pass by and ended up not only spending a great couple of days with my wife, but also meeting a few new friends by the 5th and Broadway crossing while watching and photographing trains. Enjoyed the breakfasts at the hotel as well as the places we ate while using the coupons provided by BW staff. We had a great time, We will definitely use BW more often and we for sure will be back to Chesterton sometime soon.
Indian Oaks BW is nicely located for easy access to the Indiana Dunes and equally to the quaint downtown of Chesterton. Our room had both a hot tub and fireplace which were a great way to end our long day of dune climbing and a cool Fall afternoon downtown walk.
Quick less than hour trip to Notre Dame game. Hotel was nice and clean. Breakfast was average. Great water pressure in shower. Nice lake out back and big pool. The is no hot tub but a sauna. Would have given 4 maybe 5 stars but queen beds are not queen beds....this was disappointing.
New adventure to this area. Enjoyed the lake, local restaurants, access to highways. The staff was very friendly, room was very accommodating with fridge and microwave, bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed breakfast.
We stayed here on a last minute road trip. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, but smelled like cigarette smoke. It has a beautiful lake in the back of the hotel. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed here for a wedding. Clean and comfortable enough. Definitely could use an elevator. We were able to switch to the first floor as my wife is handicap. Some rooms were on the lake. Right off the main drag and served our purpose. Bed was comfortable and pool had nice long hours, no lifeguard. Parking near the rooms seemed to be limited if it was full.
This is a Good overnight stop when driving through Indiana or visiting the national park (sand dunes ) . It is clean and the rooms are nice but a little dark. Front desk in the evening was quite abrupt and not helpful. Free Breakfast is average.
Initially tried to book a stay at the Hilton Garden Inn due to brand loyalty, but it was booked. We decided to try the Best Western and we were pleased with our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff treated us well. There are plenty of dining options in the immediate area. If we are in the area again, we would definitely consider staying here again.
Great location by a little lake, close to restaurants and shopping and 11 minutes away from the dunes. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The stuff is friendly and helpful. I spend 2 nights there I had nothing to complain
The location is very good for visiting Indian Dunes and we enjoyed our visit to the Craft House restaurant nearby. But when it comes to the property itself we probably wouldn't return. The employees, especially at check in, were miserable. A request for sofa bedding was met with middle school like attitude - a sigh and an eye roll. The hotel was very musty and my husband and daughter who both have mold allergies left coughing/sneezing all the way home. When we returned from the beach at 3PM housekeeping still had not arrived and we had to seek out clean towels on our own. The breakfast area is not anywhere adequate in size for the amount of guests staying at the hotel and we had no choice but to eat in the lobby. We were not able to enjoy our patio due to the very aggressive geese that even tried to take our bathing suits.
The Best Western Indian Oak is a good place to stay if you need an easy on/off highway location. Our room had two double beds and was spacious enough for two of us. There wasn't a fan that ran all night and the bathroom fan ran on a timer. We should travel with our own fan to provide white noise! The towels were rough and thin. Housekeeping needs to spend a little more time vacuuming and sweeping.
Nice location right off the interstate, decent room, the bathroom was a little bit dirty, there was shampoo or something splashed on the wall by the toilet. My main issue was that the walls are not sound proof in any way, the family next door were loud with screaming children until 1 in the morning and also someone else outside or in the stairway whose whole phone conversation I could hear every word of. So I didn't end up getting much sleep
Room smelled bad initially (we aired it out while at dinner), filthy room overall. Linens were fresh and bed was comfy. Too tired to complain to the staff, really just needed a bed to sleep in after traveling. Only stayed one night. Paid for lake view, which was a complete joke. Geese/duck excrement everywhere on patio, wish I would've saved $40 and had parking lot view. I used to work at a hotel for 3 years, just shocked at the quality for the price.
My first visit was fantastic, my second was terrible. The manager ruined my visit from start to finish. I am an older gal and I was made to wait in my small vehicle for 7 hours, adding in the drive time so my room could be cleaned. Only to find out the room was dirty. From half eaten cheese popcorn all over the floor by the bed, black mold on the air conditioner vents, rocks and duck poop all over my patio, to a shower head that was put in so high the water flew over my 5 foot 2 head. If the manager ever smiled, I never saw it. I was raised to leave my personal problems at the front door of my job. She was rude and the Hotels promise of an early check in was not met. Rooms are always available. My back hurt so bad from the long wait my visit was ruined. I'll miss only the Ducks. First visit no Breakfast lady for service. Hit or miss for your visit. Holiday Inn has a better breakfast buffet.
We stayed here three years ago and reviewed this hotel. We stayed here again this week and are glad we did! The outside has definitely been spruced up, and once again our room was very spacious and clean! This time we had a lakeside view and enjoyed watching the water birds. The staff (from the front desk to random employees we met in the hall) were all friendly and helpful. Very glad we made the choice to stay here again, and will each time we travel through here to visit family! Oh and we discovered they have a coin operated laundry too.
I have stayed at this property before. The hotel is located between I-90 and I-94. Easily accessible from either. The rooms are very quiet and have modern decor. The staff was both friendly checking in and out. Very affordable and great value. Will be back again.
Really enjoyed our stay, only booked for one night and ended up staying for two. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice little pub area, view at breakfast stunning. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area
We were surprised by the overall experience. The first night we stayed was not in a lake facing room. Even though it didn't face the lake there were still plenty of patio space for us to have a relaxed breakfast outside. The second night we did stay in a lakeside room. It was wonderful to sit on the patio and watch the sunset. In the morning we enjoyed our breakfast on the patio and watched all the wildlife. The pool is large and clean. Breakfast was a little lackluster compared to other hotels we have stayed. That is why I didn't give this trip an overall excellent rating.
I took my family here for a much needed vacation. It didn't feel like a tourist-y trip- it felt really close to home and the view was epic and relaxing. This hotel is 3 miles from the beach. Breakfast was amazing and overlooked a beautiful lake.
Get the lake view, it is really worth the extra couple of bucks. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast is good, and the staff friendly. I use the small workout room every time we stay, and everything always works.
Very friendly staff. Clean hotel. Beds comfortable. Had a room facing the lake, great view, wish it wasn't cold outside and could have enjoyed it more. There is a train track close by which is a little loud, but did not seem to bother sleep. Breakfast was the usual, but satisfying. Will stay here again if in the area
Excellent comfort, value and service. Bed and sofa were comfortable, room and bathroom were spacious, internet was good, breakfast was very good, staff was always friendly and helpful. Location is excellent; lake is scenic, and close to plenty of restaurants and amenities.
Don't expect them to tell you the truth about what they have to offer I asked about pool and hot tub at the front counter in person before I paid for the room and I was told yes for hot tub and pool that wasn't the case I then reported that problem at check out along with the problem if my patio door not opening and all I got was sorry no reduced rate nothing
We stayed here prior to attending a Notre Dame football fans. We loved the relaxed setting -like staying with family instead of a corporation. The lake view was such a treat. To open your sliding glass door and see swans, geese, and ducks while you drink your morning coffee is so relaxing. The fireplace and whirlpool made the room so cozy and both were in great working order. Bed was comfortable and the entire room was extremely clean. Check in and out couldn't have gone any smoother. Conveniently located to restaurants, stores, and interstate. Breakfast was ok, coffee could use a little improvement but maybe it was just one batch that wasn't great. Friendly employees and accessible rooms. Would stay again when in this area and definitely recommend for football weekends. About 50 minutes from Notre Dame/South Bend. A unique hotel that isn't cookie cutter! Thanks for a nice weekend!
Room was clean & staff was friendly and helpful. There isn't an elevator (only has 2 floors) so keep that in mind when booking. Try not to get a room by the stairwells, it sounds like people drag luggage up and down the stairs during the night. The room was pretty quiet besides the stairwell. "Indoor pool" does not mean heated pool!
Nice comfortable hotel Easy on off interstate No elevator so remember you have to carry suitcase upstairs Staff nice Breakfast was convenient but eggs where a little rubbery but coffee and yougart where good.
The hotel seems newly remodeled and is beautiful. The lobby with all the windows was a nice way to begin my stay there. The room was much bigger than I expected and very comfortable, and I LOVED the balcony overlooking the water! I was staying alone, but felt very safe as well. I very much enjoyed my stay there. The woman who checked me in was very helpful and professional, and at breakfast an employee checked in to make sure everything was ok. There wasn't a huge selection at breakfast, but enough to get my day started.
As John Lennon said " you have to be good lookin' 'cause it's so hard to see". The 5 star rating was for Best Western DOT com not this facility. The bridge that ends literally in the water (sunk I guess) directly behind the promo photo sums it up.
In the area for conference/tour. Weather was horrible-first rain in weeks and that made up for it! Location was perfect for what we needed. Close to all main and local roads, the lake, National Park, Michigan city.....Stayed at Indian Oaks when it was privately owned; Best Western has continued to keep the motel alive. Thanks- just what we needed!
Stayed at this hotel for one night on our way home on our vacation. We like Best Westerns and always try to find one when we don't have reservations. Good room and great breakfast. Would stay here again
We were fortunate enough to have a room overlooking the pond. Sitting on our balcony we watched the sun set and the geese come in for a landing to spend the night. Lovely and serene. The next morning we saw a swan couple with a cygnet.
I have returned to this Best Western multiple times when visiting my son in Valparaiso. Obviously, if I come back, I must like it. This time, however, we paid the extra for the lake view, which is really pretty and there are many different types of birds to watch on the lake. We arrived late, and the next morning were disappointed that we couldn't sit on the small deck and enjoy the morning because of a gutter leak that soaked the deck. I went to the front desk and requested a room change, and was told we couldn't move, but the leak would be fixed. When we returned after hiking the Dunes, the fix it job was so poor that it didn't stop the leak and I was told that the last lakeside room had just been sold. The GM was apologetic the next morning, but I was really disappointed that I couldn't enjoy one of the main reasons I was there.
Kind of tucked away from the road, but a woodsy atmosphere. We stopped randomly due to not wanting to drive so late home to Indy. Was such a relaxing hotel stay. Staff was friendly, and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Location of this B/W is great, although it's hard to find at first. Loved the geese and quiet setting and strip mall close by made it easy to walk to the Walgreens. This hotel has no elevator which forced us have to drag our luggage up to the second floor but wasn't too bad. The art work on the walls is made out of a sand cast method which I thought was very tasteful!
Great staff, very clean & comfortable bedroom and easy check-out. The breakfast was good and I appreciated that there was plenty of hot coffee. I had a very good night's sleep and liked the view of the lake. Overall very satisfied with the stay.
We love this hotel and stay here each time we visit the Chicago area. The hotel is clean, family friendly and has a hot tub, pool and sauna! There is also a hotel bar with a small lounge open till 2am. Close to restaurants and bars, and very close to the train station.
We went to the Indiana Dunes for a mini vacation. The hotel is in a location which is central to all of the activities which we did. Our room had an awesome view of the pond which is behind the hotel. We had a nice patio to sit on with a pond view.
We loved our staying at this hotel. It's been renovated since our last visit in 2012. Rooms were lovely and quite large; the breakfast was good. It's very close to the highway exit. Thanks for the opportunity to review.
Stayed here for a family wedding. They were very accommodating. The breakfast was good. lots of choices. Beds and pillows very comfortable. Nice clean room! I would stay here again. The staff was terrific.
Due to the fact that the bathroom facilities were in poor working conditions, and I was blamed for a broken toilet in my bedroom, I cannot give this hotel a stronger recommendation. I have been a satisfied customer in the previous years I have stayed at this hotel, but this was not considered when I made a complaint to the manager that my husband and I reported a leaking toilet which resulted in our having to move to another room in the middle of the night and then we were blamed and said we broke the toilet. The management continued to indicate that it was our fault. That we broke the toilet, which is absolutely untrue. It is no way we could brake a porcelain toilet. After numerous times of asking for some kind of remuneration for our inconvenience, the manager gave me a small discount of 10% of our bill. I was so humiliated and upset. Again, we have been faithful customers of this hotel, and it was unacceptable the way we were treated. We will not ever go back there.
Very nice room, very spacious. I was given a two bed room although I was by myself. The air conditioner in the room was amazing, they provided one set of shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and face soap. There was also a free continental breakfast buffet open until 10 AM and it was actually very good! Definitely would recommend staying here if you're on a road trip.
The front desk staff was very helpful and professional. But it's a dated hotel and needs some maintenance especially with the balcony sliding glass door and screen door. Also, the location is weird. You have to drive through a strip mall parking lot to get to the hotel. I was glad it was for just one night. We won't be back.
Hotel is newly renovated so it felt fresh and clean. Newer carpet, bedsheets, furniture, etc. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh - just wished there was fruit other than bananas. The front desk staff was very helpful in finding a crib and sheets for my toddler. Overall, great stay!
We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel. Location was good as far as fast food places, but the place was a bit hard to find using our car GPS. The hotel was old, and everything in the hotel seemed old, but the rooms were large and contained all we needed. No elevator. We had a first floor room the had a very small patio facing the small lake or pond. In the pond were a family of swans (two adults and a baby), geese and ducks. They all seemed to get along well. At night, most of the geese seemed to sleep on the shore outside our room. In the morning four ducks visited our patio looking for food. We enjoy birds, so this was all a treat for us! We slept well. Would stay again if in the area. However the traffic (with the construction) going into Chicago is very bad.
Nice location offering easy access to the Indiana Dunes. Also, cute town with an interesting European Market. The pool area was nice and a cute lake to look out on. Very friendly and helpful staff. We would recommend this location!
Nice clean rooms, breakfast was good selection and plentiful, close to beach and shopping and restaurants. Room had a microwave and refrigerator for our food and snacks, we also had a coffee maker with coffee supplies for the morning.
The hotel was clean & comfortable. Convenient location. We enjoyed the large pool, sauna & hot tub. Good location. Breakfast was mediocre. Slept well in comfortable bed. Finding entrance a little tricky. Soft towels.
Great location, near Indiana Dunes, Lake Michigan, restaurants-- both real and fast food. Nice pool as well as wetlands in back of hotel. Try to get a room facing the wetlands. You can see seagulls and herons. Ducks and geese come around at night and in the morning to add to charm especially for kids.
Nice staff, strong wifi signal, good variety of breakfast foods, indoor pool. Bring your own white noise-- fan on a/c won't stay on when cold air kicks off. Beds too hard for my taste, but to each his own.
We loved our room. Great quality for the price. Everything was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved the amenities that the hotel offered. We had a hot tub in our room which came in handy because we did a strenuous hike and needed it.
This hotel is super clean and comfortable, great location by the Indiana Dunes! Surrounded by stores and restaurants and just a short drive away from the entrance to the Lakeshore. Would stay here again for sure! Make sure you notice the artistic shot of a slice of bread in the hallway ;)
I have traveled with and led groups to the dunes over the last 8 years and never stay anywhere else. The staff is friendly and hospitable. I always feel like we're getting a great value staying at Best Western Indian Oak.
Stayed here to go to Indians Dunes and Chicago by train. Hotel was decent. Not as clean as some of the Besr Westerns we have stayed at. Don't waste your money on the lake view. It is covered over, not the fault of the hotel but almost impossible to sit out on the balcony at night because of insects. Not what we expected. The staff was excellent .
I picked this location because of its closeness to Indiana Dunes State Park. It was extremely quick. The access to restaurants was great. There was a nice grocery close, too. After a nice afternoon hiking, it was great to return to a clean, comfortable room.
Needed a place to stay for the night. Room was dirty, pool was old and dark, grounds around back were unsightly. Right next to another hotel that looks like it is falling apart. Had a small bar in it that I would not step into it. Staff was very helpful.
good hotel for the price. Clean rooms, friendly staff, conveniently located. Would definitely stay here again. Only 2 complaints, breakfast room is crowded and my food was cold. 4 people stayed in room for 4 nights...every day we had to ask for an additional washcloth.
We found fresh blood on our sheets about the size of a quarter. Its Obvious they do not wash their sheets and blankets. We asked for new sheets and blankets and they said they were out of blankets and would have to find us one. She forgot and we had to call her back and they finally brought us one. Dirt on the floor in the bathroom.
Over all, great experience. Hotel was nice, the lake out back was a plus. The swans were pretty. Staff very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was not bad, as far a continental goes. Downfalls were: room was stuffy, a little damp. Shower needed an update.
nice evening by the pond with the geese and ducks. nice walk to a healthy restaurant with gracious and friendly service and good food. great evening. nice bed. wonderful balcony so we did not have to use awful air conditioning
Stayed two nights. Close to Indiana Dunes. The room was just so-so. It smelled strongly of disinfectant. The "lake" was a scummy pond. Typical breakfast fare. If I went back to the area, I would check out another hotel.
The best thing about this hotel is the view of the lake behind the hotel. Beware: you must pay extra for the lake view rooms or you will have a view of the parking lot. Breakfast was cold, but they do have a microwave in each room.
Room smelled Musty, carpet wet. Pulled back sheets and yellow/reddish stains all over both beds. Found hairs in the sheets. Air conditioner not cooling the room. Manger unwilling to compensate any refund. ONLY offering rewards points. Not acceptable customer service. PLEASE think twice before staying here, not worth the headache. :(
This Best Western is a wonderful place to bring the family. My family and I spent two nights here while visiting the Indiana Dunes State Park. The hotel is so close and convenient for getting to the park. Our room faced a lake and my kids enjoying seeing ducks, swans and seagulls right outside the door. The hotel is in great condition and the room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was the usual continental offering and everything was very good and well stocked both mornings that we ate. We look forward to coming back again soon to enjoy it some more!
Overall a pretty nice place to stay for a trip to Indiana Dunes. The room had a nice balcony to sit outside and enjoy some coffee in the morning. Breakfast was pretty good considering it was included but could use another toaster and waffle maker.
The hotel is situated on the side of a lake/pond and it's just beautiful to see the wildlife and the water out the window during breakfast. :) The location is right off the freeway, exactly where we needed a stop on our road trip.
The lodging accommodations were below my expectations. The value for the cost definitely did not meet my standards. The bright light cover was the great customer service that Alex at the front desk provided.
Room was clean and tidy, loved that it overlooked the "lake." Pool area needs improved - and it would be good to have a heated pool. Breakfast was good for the price. Staff was friendly. We had a good experience with the two-night stay.
The hotel sits on Chubb lake, which looks weedy and is not very large but somehow it is very peaceful and there is wildlife around, so we really enjoyed sitting on the deck and relaxing there. There was a swan family with a baby which was cute. The pool is larger than average so you can actually do some laps. There is also a sauna and a hot tub. The room was clean, and had a microwave and fridge. It is very convenient because it is right off the toll road. I would definitely stay again, and request a lakeside room.
We wanted a clean comfortable room close to Indiana Dunes and we found it here.. just 3 short miles from the Dunes and surrounded by good eateries and amenities. Breakfast was really good and clean!! Would recommend this property for vacationers to the Dunes or any other activity!! The room was clean with lots of amenities; in room coffee, hair dryer, fridge.. even a disinfected remote for the TV!! Great room... kid friendly as well!!!
Hotel was wonderful for our stay. The woman running the front desk when we arrived, Emily, was attentive and so helpful through our entire stay. Room was nice, location was great overlooking the water, pool was very refreshing. Would definitely stay again.
Picturesque and nicely remodel led, with amenities like water view, sauna, and pool. Unfortunately odors and lackadaisical/inattentive service spoiled the hotel stay. Service issues included no towels at pool, no-one to get them from, and needless long lines at breakfast.
The hotel over all was very good. We enjoyed the pool and the lake view and the general location. The breakfast was not good at all and the girl that checked us in was not friendly at all and messed up our rooms. Overall the hotel was clean and inviting and the maid service was outstanding.
Great hotel and staff. Good breakfast, clean rooms, comfy beds. If you're going for the "lake" view...it's really not a lake and the bird droppings don't make for a nice stroll outside your room. But if you're there for the area attractions, it's a good location and place to stay.
This hotel is wonderful! I would highly recommend it. It is clean and modern and they thought of every convenience. The setting with the pond and the ducks and swans is just fabulous! The sunset was amazing! They have a nice pool and hot tub. Breakfast was very good. I would truly stay again if in the area.
I took my two small granddaughters for a mini vacation and they wanted a beach, so this was a perfect place. It was close to the Indiana Dunes and had a pool just in case it rained, which it did both afternoons. We used the pool once coming back from the beach and then would sit on our porch to watch the rain and birds. The hotel was very clean and had a relaxing environment. They both were sad when we had to leave and already asking when we can go back. We had a great time and will definitely be back for a return visit!
Had a wonderful stay. Good value for the money. Beautiful view of the lake in back. Continental breakfast was awesome!! I would definitely return to Best Western in Chesterton. The service was great and the staff are very helpful and friendly!
It was dark, we were on a detour and weren't sure where we were. We saw the Best Western sign and decided to go there. it turned out to be one of the nicest BWs we've been to. Each room looked out onto a small lake, along with either a tiny patio or balcony. We had a slight problem with the key cards not working in the access door, but the desk person handled it. The whirlpool was almost too hot to enjoy for longer than a couple of minutes however. I would suggest, as baby boomers get older, to add a few more 'handicap accessible' rooms.
The breakfast is good and there is a lounge that offers inexpensive beverages in the evenings is a plus. Some rooms are better than others tho and the bathrooms need up dating. This is a good one night lay over spot.
Old, outdated hotel. Beds are worn out, rooms have odors, carpeting sticky, and poor attempts to update bathrooms. Not worth the money. The only reason we stayed at this hotel is the proximity to the banquet hall my daughter had her wedding reception at.
Bathtub had lots of different hairs, bed had dead mosquito in plain sight by pillows, and fitted sheet had a urine stain larger than a quarter on it. Staff did give us a different sheet- bed only has a thin brown blanket- no comforter, so if it is chilly out, you may need to turn on heat. Pool was very cold- kids were disappointed as we only swam ten minutes before needing to get out due to cold water. Breakfast was good, would not pay extra for lakeside view. Balcony on lakeside view second floor, but no outside chairs. Hotel is very conveniently located to food and Indiana Dunes. We stayed two non refundable nights, or we would have left to find a cleaner place. Due to lack of cleanliness, we will not return to this hotel, and do not recommend it.
Had a great time at Indiana Dunes Birding festival. Best Western was an ideal location. The staff and manager were super and very accommodating. Nice clean rooms, great breakfast every morning. would recommend.
The hotel is close to Indiana Dunes. There is a variety of restaurants near by. The hotel is clean, nice breakfast and friendly staff. We stay there each year for the Indiana Dunes birding festival. It is right off the interstate.
We had noticed the Best Western Indian Oak on previous visits to the area, and tried it for this most recent one-night stay. If you are visiting Indiana Dunes or just passing through, it is a fine place to stay. The best thing about the hotel is the lake. Half of the rooms face it, with small balconies. I had requested lakeside room when reserving, and am glad that I did. Oddly, balconies do not have chairs, so I had to roll the desk chair out there with my morning tea. I wish they would put chairs on the balconies. The hotel is located in a crowded strip mall area and abuts a busy highway, but everything feels quiet on the back side overlooking the lake. There was even a family of swans. The building itself is dated, with 70s-era architecture, but rooms have been remodeled fairly recently. Our room was quite large; about 1/3 larger than the average hotel room. I am not sure if all rooms here are over-sized or not, but I enjoyed it. Otherwise, the room was entirely average. Breakfast was similar to the breakfast at many other hotels, but the room was not crowded or chaotic, and there was room to sit. We stayed here while visiting our son in Valparaiso. It was a little too far away from Valpo for our purposes, and we'll probably stay in town during our next stay. However, it would be conveniently located for anyone visiting Indiana Dunes.
The hotel is very nice. The rooms have modern decor in them. My only complaint was the TV on the dresser made a creeking noise every time I moved around the room or someone walked by in the hallway. Located just 3 miles off the Indiana toll road it was very quiet(minus the TV thing)
This hotel was conveniently located a short distance from the Indiana Dunes State Park, off of the Interstate, and to local shopping and dining. It spite of the closeness to the Interstate highway, it was quiet, and very comfortable.
I am retired and travel extensively throughout the year.. i come to Chesterton twice a month as I have family here. I have stayed at another lodging however it was full for the evening. An individual recommended you facility. Hence forth I shall be staying with you whenever in your area
Indian oak is the best hotel I been to so clean great breakfast, the pool was awesome the rooms super clean great view out the rooms the lobby it was a great experience I will always go back thank you for the great service.
I was impressed with the entrance of the building. We enjoyed it because we walked to dinner and lunch. Taco Bell is nearby, two Chinese Restaurants, and many other options were available to us. We really enjoyed the heated pool, however, there were no towels available to us. We left, dripping down the hallway and we ran to our room. The sauna was wonderful, the hot tub was small. The breakfast was wonderful. I wished the hours extended to 10AM instead of 9AM. It was hard to wake the teenagers that early in the morning. I would stay again. Thank you
Don't buy a room with the fireplace, it doesn't work! Front desk was as helpful as possible though. I wish I could've gotten some type of reimbursement since I paid very close to $200, I tried not to complain but it was my money!
I did stay here an average of 1-2 times a week. Today (first time ever) I asked for a late check out due to illness and was declined even an additional 30 minutes and Katie was extremely rude about it. for someone who gives regular business you would think they would be kinder and more accommodating. The hotel is not clean and the rooms are always missing something but I was not upset about that because I thought it would be good to have a close hotel that I could stay at and be familiar with the staff. They have workers staying there all the time which seems to be the majority of their guest. will not stay again. I will move my regular business elsewhere.
It is a very nice hotel, very clean, friendly staff, great location to Food and shopping. Loved the lake view room. Newly renovated large rooms. This was our second time here and we will be back again.
They didnt change the sheets or remove the trash from the room. Otherwise it seemed to be a nice hotel to stay at . The pool was nice zand clean my niece enjoyed thst. They need to have towels down by the pool
Great second experience at this hotel. I mostly enjoy the nature out of the West Windows. Watching the birds and ducks play is so relaxing. Enjoy the pool, sauna and whirlpool. Great restaurants in town. Close to Indiana Dunes.
Stayed here for 2 nights before flight back to uk,Great stay few little shops about, and good chinese ,walmart,The hotel had a bar, prices good Front desk, housekeeping breakfast all GREAT This hotel is right next to a lake which is full of ducks, geese,if weather had been warm i would have spent a hour or too on the patio out side our suite watching the wildlife. The owners have a real gem here the lake could be used for boating lake.Piano in lounge area, entertainment could be on at weekends.Worth thinking about. When we fly in or out of chicao will be staying here just over an hours drive WILL RETURN
Motel has deferred maintenance issues. Complementary breakfast needs improvement. The food looked like it had been there a couple days. Motel needs more ice makers. Our room's bath was marginal. The tub needed work as well as the bathroom floor. The check in person was professional and efficient.
Good service for the price. Very quiet place. plenty of parking. Don't watch Fox News but it looks like it is on 24 hours. The building architecture goes well with the environment. It was a one night well experiene.
Late reservation and late arrival. Hotel was very polite and accommodating. No issues in hotel room, has been some time since renovated but no problems. Beds are about average, nothing special. Price was reasonable for accommodations. I would recommend
Nestled just off a convenient thoroughfare, with easy (even walkable) access to a wealth of shops and eateries, the location of this hotel is made even better by the immediate (I'm talking just a few feet) view of and access to a lake, one third covered by lily pads, surrounded on three sides by trees, with swans, geese, ducks, kestrels, and nature at your doorstep. It is important to note that this view is ever-present only from the even-numbered rooms or from the decks adjacent to the hotel sun room or breakfast area. Though very near the very busy roadway, I heard NO traffic noise, but one's peace is frequently interrupted by the sound of not-so-distant train whistles (I could neither feel nor hear the trains rumbling however). Check-In was a breeze, and we were greeted warmly and treated in both a friendly and professional manner (a SHOUT-OUT to Amanda - Great Job !!!). Our room was very spacious, and in the typical fashion of BW, was well-appointed (refrig, microwave, WiFi); we opted for a ground floor room to have more immediate access (via the patio with sliding door) to the lake, though the 2nd floor balconies would offer great views as well. I am always pleased with the pillows and linens at BW's, and this time was no exception. However, the luster soon wore thin .... The bed was very squeaky, and the mattress lacked adequate support at the side. The indoor heated pool was @ 70-72 degrees (a bit tool cool for my taste), and the hot tub, though a comfortable if not hot @ 104 degrees, had incredibly weak jets (barely created a ripple in the water); we were advised that maintenance checked on it and was satisfied that they were functioning properly (I suspect he/she has never been in a hot tub). The on-site "Pub", located in the lobby area, consists of a sitting room with a few stock bottles of liquor and a frig full of bottled beers and wines (in all fairness, it did appear to have a fairly good selection), but one is stretching to refer to it as a "Pub". Noise can be heard from other rooms, especially with the opening and closing of the sliding doors, but not sufficiently to create a distraction. All of this being said, I would return to this hotel for the incredible view of the lake, the exceptional staff, and the convenient location.
Very clean rooms. Breakfast choices were great and staff activelye maintained it. The staff was attentive, especially the manager, Angel. Close to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Dunes State Park.
Much too expensive. Room had a sliding door to outside but screen had holes in it and there were no curtains on the sliding door only blackout drapes therefore no privacy unless drapes were pulled. Only one person working the desk so time to check in was long. There was a small patio outside the room but children were running past all the time and the pond was very dirty. The door to our room showed sighs that someone had kicked it in once.
Pluses: Attractive lobby, good-sized rooms, lovely setting. The even-numbered rooms look out on a small lake. Walking distance to just about any fast food chain you can think of, as well as several nicer restaurants. I sleep through trains, but if you are a light sleeper, you might find it on the noisy side. Stay away from the eggs at breakfast.
Best feature: room large and comfortable. We had a standard king. There were sliding doors leading to small lake, with private patio/balcony which was nice. Staff were all excellent. Bed very comfortable. We would stay there again.
Location was good for us. Was looking for a spot between southwest Michigan and Chicago and this was it. Hotel is a minute or two off highway. Plenty of restaurants right around it. Good exit to stay at if you want to go to Indiana Dunes State Park. This was probably a premier hotel back in its heyday. The approach to the hotel looks nice with a small pond and fountain and some flowers. Located on a small lake (or large pond) the rooms on the back side face water and have a small deck. The lobby has a bit of a lodge feel with high ceilings a large exposed stairway, fire place and large sitting area. The pool is larger than the pools being put in today's newer hotels. There is a hot tub, smaller like what you might have In your own backyard. There is also a large outdoor deck next to the pool overlooking the lake. That being said, you can tell the building is an older property. Updates have been made in some areas but not others. The pool ceiling had been redone recently, but had a ceiling vent cover that looked like it might drop in the pool. You can tell they have probably been working on it, but must not have the money to do a wholesale redo all at one time. I know some other reviews have mentioned bugs and I hate to say it but we had some too. Two black ants and one small flying bug crawling on the bed. I think a lot of the rooms have sliders to the decks. That is probably an area that some come in. The other two families we stayed with did not mention bugs in their rooms. So, I guess I wouldn't rule out staying there again, but they still have some work to do.
My daughter had a birthday party there. The pool was very clean and the staff was very helpful. I thought it was very nice that they gave us a stack of towels for the pool. All of her party guests we very impressed with the hotel. Would definitely come back.
In town for loss of family. The staff was very helpful and apologetic. There were not many rooms left however they made accomodations to the best availability for myself and family. The breakfast is very appreciated, hot and delicious. My daughter looks forward everytime and it can actually get her out of bed. Will never sway from this hotel when we come in town.
Recently there with my family and baby for Labor Day Weekend. Went to the bathroom at 2am, turned the lights on and see several cockroaches by the coffee maker. Was able to catch one and disposed in the trash. During check out, explained the incident with the PROPERTY MANAGER, Amanda, and she quickly said it was not a cockroach after showing her thr photo I took. I asked her to take us back to our room and pick the pest out of the trash and confirm. She proceeds to evaluate it and even touched it with her bare fingers and said it was NOT a cockroach. I then requested that we get a second opinion from another staff member (was hoping for another manager) for confirmation and sure enough it was settled as the pest being a cockroach. I also let her know that there's a hole underneath the sink by the pipe against the wall and could be an outlet for these pests. She first denies it was a cockroach. Asks if I had photos. I show her the photo and immediately denies. Tells me that I should've called management right away. (We have a 15month old baby and to wake the baby up was not an option.) Still denies after physically evaluating the roach with her fingers. Doesn't wash her hands and goes on typing and handling front desk activities. Offers a 15% discount??? Seriously? I was puzzled and just asked her to do whatever it was to make the situation right in order for us to enjoy the rest of our day.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel while we visited the Dunes State Park. The location is great, the room large & comfortable with a nice patio. The breakfast was quite adequate especially enjoyed the waffle maker option!
This appears to be an older hotel, but has wen very well maintained. We arrived late without a reservation. The desk clerk was very helpful and provided us with extra linens and information on local restaurant delivery. We used the pool and hot tub which were both nice. We woke to swans on the shore and could sit with coffee on our balcony. Breakfast was standard hotel fare but was well stocked, even toward the end when we arrived. There is no elevator (that we saw), however there are only two floors. The hotel is within close proximity to the I-94 exit as well as gas stations, restaurants and shopping. I would definitely stay again.
Got a late start, trying to find lodging, on a long road trip. Saw this hotel listed on the Internet at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, even though the parking lot was not overly inviting, went to front desk to inquire about rates. Best price available, approximately 100% greater than listed on the Internet. Plenty of hotel options available – – will not give this hotel another chance.
The property is kept up and the front desk service is very good. Informative, reliable and friendly. The rooms are fine and it is quiet. They offer a cocktail service that is a nice touch at the end of the day. There are many restaurant choices that are walking distance from the property.
I was in charge of arrangements for our party of ~ 25. The original agreement encompassed 8 rooms. More than 2 1/2 months out from the event, I called and asked to add one more room, making nine in total. I was assured it would be no problem, and that revised paperwork would be sent. Revised paperwork never showed up. Five days out from the event I contacted the hotel to make sure everyone would be able to check in, even if I wasn't checked in yet. Was advised via email that wouldn't be a problem, and was everyone paying for the second night? I emailed back, NO, everything should be put on my card (I'm not even sure where the notion that everyone would be responsible for the second night's charges came from, that wouldn't have been anything I would have wanted for my party.) Well, you can imagine what happened next -- on arrival, everyone in my party got hassled for second night's payment, stuff started getting messed up, people started getting nervous, because that WASN'T THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO. Refunds were given and charges reversed nicely enough, I just hated that I'd explicitly told the hotel to charge my card the entire amount and it only happened piecemeal and after I pressed the point. Another issue -- that room I added 2 1/2 months in advance? Apparently wasn't subject to the group rate I'd been provided for the previous 8 rooms. They charged me $169/night for the same type of room that others in our group paid $119 for. I would have been OK with that, I suppose, but what I received wasn't even the type of room I asked for. I'd requested a queen double and was given a king and a pullout. The BW contact agreed to give me a $30 refund ... but never followed through with it. There were some other smaller problems (a dirty bathtub, a room that wasn't ready on time), but really, it's the billing fiasco that caused me heartburn. We stayed here because the breakfast was supposed to be good, and that much was true.
The room was OK however on your site advertised a queen bed with whirlpool. The bed looked and felt like a full bed. I owe a queen bed and my bed looked bigger than the one I stayed in. So I was a bit disappointed I got charged for a queen when it was a full. .
Typical Best Western, not luxurious, but comfortable, clean, and roomy. Nice lobby with a small bar, several breakfast options, comfortable beds. Staying here for a family wedding and there was plenty of room to congregate and enjoy the company of others.
Our room was nice and big and comfortable. Room service forgot to clean our room the first day. The exercise equipment was not good. The treadmill and elliptical were terrible. The bike was fine. I needed to ask at front desk for something to clean off the machines. The breakfast very very average. It would have been nice to have something fresh to eat. Good location, close to the Dunes.
The staff was very helpful and the check in person was super helpful. The pool is a nice large pool. The location to the Dunes Park is perfect and convenient. The only complaint I had is the room needed to be vacuumed a little better along the edge of the wall but other than that, totally happy.
We have been staying here for several years. The hotel is quite nice- the rooms are a good size and nicely decorated, the bathroom is roomy and bright, the staff is always very friendly and helpful. It's not far to the Indiana Dunes State Park which has beaches, hiking trails and more. There are tons of restaurants nearby and more if you take a short walk into downtown Chesterton. The breakfast buffet has a lot of variety- it's not your usual "cereal, bread and donuts" that you find in most other "complimentary breakfast" deals. We keep forgetting it has an indoor pool so we keep forgetting to bring bathing suits.
Found the bug under the blankets.. it was alone i looked very close but still nasty. Everything was fine workout gym was VERY basic food was typical.needs 2 waffle makers wait was crazy.AAA discount was decant and workers were very nice pond was great from deck to sit and relax.. bug gave me a bad feeling but everything else was typical and boring.
I would come back to a Best Western in the future because it was clean, but would like a warmer pool to swim in. The breakfast need at least 2 waffle makers and more scrambled egg days and biscuits and gravy was good. Rooms were neat with fireplace and enjoyed our beds being made every day.
Nice updated hotel with private spa, fridge, microwave. Large pool, free breakfast, plenty of parking, free internet and close to Indiana Dunes State Park and major highways. Convenient, inexpensive. Overall, pleasant experience
I had a very nice stay at the Best Western Hotel in Chesterton, IN. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was of good size, clean and well equipped. The location was close to everything my family and I were in the area to see at the Indiana Dunes area. Will definitely stay there again when in the area.
We choose this hotel to return to each year during our Lake Michigan trip. It always seems to be an easy, relaxed, and quite place to reserve and to stay. Very close access to the places we visit; Beverly Shores, Dunes State Park, and the main expressways. Staff always very accommodating.
This review is honest to what we experienced, but please keep in mind that we did see some evidence of the managers working very hard to improve the conditions. This seems to be a property with much potential, but they may have an uphill battle on their hands. This hotel is around an hour from downtown Chicago by car. That made it great for a place to stay after a concert at Soldier Field. The rooms themselves look like they have been updated on the surface, but there's still a feeling of uncleanliness somehow. Scratches, dents, worn looking corners or untouched spaces. It could do with a new coat of paint and some TLC. The bar was broken off of our door, for example. A new deadbolt on the handle itself was there, but the messy, broken off stump of the bar was still there. The fan and filters looked dated and uncleaned. A/C, microwave, and refrigerator ran loudly but all seemed to be in good working condition. Pool looked nice, though we didn't try it. The grounds are a little concerning. The hotel is in the back of a shopping center, right next to another lodging option. Both hotels border a pond that's covered in algae and doesn't have much as far as guard rails. There is also another little pond by the parking lot that looks really bad, complete with a falling down bridge. It seems to be a safe enough neighborhood for that part of Indiana. Be aware that the parking lot and hotel feel secluded at night and are near the highway. There is lighting, but not a ton. If you still want to know more, here's what we experienced: We arrived around 2:30 local time, since we forgot the time change. They had been totally booked the night before and were juggling a large baby shower and unplanned housekeeping difficulties. Check in time was 3, so we understood waiting. We waited about 45minutes before asking again and our room seemed to have already been ready. We got in, just to drop out things off and head to the city, but soon had issues with the toilet. They are Eco flush models, which seem to be easy to get clogged due to the small amount of water they keep in reserve. Once you hold down the handle to clear out what it didn't flush the first time it will rise and threaten to overflow quickly. We decided to tell the manager on our way out, since we were going to be gone until midnight or so. All it seemed to need was a plunger and there wasn't one in the room. She let us know that they had no one working who could fix that until Monday (it was Sunday) and they had no clean available room. However, she said she would give us a new room when we got back that night. She followed through on her word, it just seemed like a lot of hassle for something we could have remedied ourselves with the right tools. Switching rooms made for an even later night. We did try the breakfast and there were a good amount of options. The eggs had lots of pepper in them, which seemed strange. Otherwise, good enough for a small, hot breakfast.
Breakfast was good. Room was clean. Hotel is near shopping, restaurants and the Dunes. The visitor center was very helpful in determining which beach we wanted to go to. Hotel has daily cleaning and fresh towels, if you want. Coffee available in the breakfast room round the clock.
This was a comfortable stop-over after a long day of driving. Arriving later in the evening we were able to get their last 'King' room. It was spacious and clean with all the amenities expected in this type of hotel. Either the guests were unusually quiet or the sound proofing was better than most, but it was very quiet. The evening receptionist was polite and knowledgeable of local attractions and places to eat. The buffet breakfast was unremarkable. Overall a decent place to stay.
Clean rooms, nice pool, friendly staff and nice full breakfast. We suggest a lake view room so you don't look at the parking lot, but the lake is not the most well-kept. Geese and swans were fun to see but it's a gravel and barren shore. Great for the price!
So from the outside this place doesn't look like much but I was pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to our room. Updated rooms with new furniture, mini fridge and flat screen TV. Decor had a modern look and was easy on the eyes. Our room overlooking the lake behind the hotel was also a bonus plus there is a small deck and two chairs so you can sit out there and just relax. Staff wasn't extremely friendly but hey everyone has off days. My only gripe because it's the one thing I enjoy most on vacation is the hot tub. The jets were weak and it wasn't overly hot. Still relaxing just the same but that's the only reason this stay got 4 out of 5. For the money it brings a lot to the table. Pool and fitness facilities open up at 5am and open til 11pm. I've never heard of such but was glad for that availability. They also have a pub.(Basically a room across from the front desk with a bar and cooler of beer behind it) that you can buy beer from. So that was pretty cool. Continental breakfast from 6-9. Hope this review helps :)
We had two rooms, both on the 1st floor. The rooms and common areas were clean. There is an indoor pool and exercise room. The breakfast was decent although I believe the eggs were powdered. Yucky! This hotel is on a little lake but don't envision splashing on the shore. It isn't terribly clean looking and there is no sand, only rocks. The lake did provide us with lots of entertainment while watching the Canada Geese and swans. It is a pleasant view and a nice place to view the sunset. I would return to this very functional hotel.
Our family enjoyed the location of the hotel. It was close to the Dunes, had everything we needed close by - pizza, grocery, pharmacy. The property is very nice - even with the geese visiting, the property owners cleaned the "gifts" left every day. We enjoyed the breakfast, the clean rooms and the friendly staff. The only downside would be the little bit of mustiness, cigarette odor as there are people who smoke outside the rooms and it does carry inside. Not too much the property can do about that unless it becomes a no smoking facility.
We stayed here for 4 nights over the 4th of July and really enjoyed this hotel. It is recently refurbished and beautiful. We had some noise beneath us on the first night and when we called the desk the hotel clerk immediately went to the noisy room and asked them to quiet down. Very responsive. We had a minor custodial repair that was also quickly taken care of. The breakfast was more than fine...Lots of options for everyone in our party of three. We definitely plan on staying here again when we come to visit nearby family. Also, there were nice "extra" bathrooms on the second floor close to our room...which was nice since there were three in our party and we could also use the extra bathrooms to get ready/shave, etc. Enjoy the Canadian geese flock that live by the duck pond!
Its location is not only convenient to I-94 but also to Indiana Dunes beaches. And surprisingly on its own it could be a nice place to get away because it is located on the nice quiet and picturesque lake. The entrance via parking lot through a busy shopping area is not to promising but once you get to your room and see that your room is facing this Chubb Lake with a romantic structure in the forest for weddings and picturesque old wooden boat with growing trees in it...you will change your heart and feel much better here.
I stayed one night in a room on the second floor. The hotel is pretty dated and has no elevator. The room was very big - 2 Queens and a couch. The "view" of a lake isn't anything special. Just lots of noisy geese and algae-covered water. We didn't use the pool because we were at the beach all day and visiting family nearby, but there were many happy adults and kids who were using the pool. The room was definitely not worth the amount we spent.
We chose this hotel because it was fairly close to Michigan City, where my grandson was in a baseball tournament over the weekend. I originally was going to stay at LaPorte, but they were all booked up. It turned out that some of the games were in Portage, so your hotel was convenient to both baseball field locations.
We have stayed here before. This time the hotel has been remodeled and it has gone from good to excellent. The woman at the front desk when we checked it was top notch in customer service. We will definitely stay here again.
Decent size room, somewhat up to date on the amenities, no mattress or sheets on the pull out couch and no breakfast but there was a Bob Evans, McDonald's, and other food places within walking distance.
We found this hotel late at night during recent thunderstorms. Hotel is older and a bit like a lodge. Room was very clean and extremely spacious. No elevator. Breakfast was free and not great. Breakfast room quite crowded. Room decor was a little boring but bed was comfortable.
Ok hotel for the price. It was super hot the weekend we stayed and it took forever for the air conditioning to cool the room. Breakfast had some nice items but were clearly picked over by wedding guests staying at the hotel so there was a limited amount of food left and space to eat. We ended up eating in the lobby because there was no room.
While attending a wedding we stayed at this BW. We were pleasantly surprised that we had a lake view room that was huge. The lake was covered with weeds and scum but still had a wide variety of ducks, geese, and swans to watch. The room had a very comfortable king bed and a private balcony. The hotel is older and needs some paint and fix up on the outside but is very clean and comfortable on the inside. In addition to a great room, the hotel offers a year around pool and a small bar in the lobby. They also have a free hot breakfast each day. If I had any complaint, it would be that they do not extend the breakfast hours on the weekend and shuts off at 9:00am. The staff is very accommodating and a special thanks goes out to Mr Chris Hawkins who wore many hats and did them all very well.
I have stayed at this hotel in the past and I would rate it just average however they have remodeled it and it is very nice Sits on small lake has a great deck Great showers comfortable beds and very good breakfast Would come back to stay for sure Great job Best Western
We stayed here in June. The service was good, the staff friendly, the room big and clean. We got a room facing the little pond and the parking. A bit too noisy as you hear the traffic all the time. What we didn't like at all was the breakfast in a small noisy room. Everything is on paper or plastic, a great waste for the environment. As a swedish person we find the things to eat too sweet.
Nice room!! Nice hotel!! And a great breakfst!!!!! Arrived hours early, didn't know of the 1 hour time difference, the staff got our room ready in under an hour. We loved how close in distance it was to the IN dunes! Only complaint is the spiders, lots of spiders!
We stayed here for just one night. It wasn't 5 star but it was clean and the staff were nice. I really liked that it was close to all the things we wanted to do. We went shopping at the lighthouse mall, Bass pro shop, and went to the Indiana Dunes. Also nice that it is close to lots of dining options. I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a clean, reasonably priced place to stay!
I checked into the Best Western on the 1st week in January for an extended stay. My Military ID afforded myself a discount. I am a Disabled Veteran who requires the services of a Medical Service Animal. Lucky, my Dog is 11 years old and is fully trained to provide me some physical mobility. With him I can walk 50 yards or less. He also tries to wake me up when I am unconscious and stays with me to protect me in those situations. He is WONDERFUL! I was given Room 222. Upon entering the room it was FREEZING cold. Imagine Lake Michigan in the dead of winter. I turned the heat on and waited ... and waited fully clothed in winter gear and Lucky wrapped in a blanket ... shivering. At first I thought that this may just be an oversight, but it was not. After 4 hours the room was warm enough to remove my gloves (my hands are severely crippled as well). I had driven from Pittsburgh a just needed to rest ... badly. While unpacking, I turned on the bathroom light. A SCREECHING ROAR filled the room! It was the fan. Never had I heard a defective fan make this much noise. I HAD to turn it off. I banged on it to hopefully nudge the fan bearings to a better position to no avail. Looking over the room, I went to the balcony ... the exterior security door would not latch. When I placed towels on the couch for Lucky to lay on, what did I find? Stains all over the couch that I'll only describe as 'bodily fluids' ... you get the picture. That was enough. I called the front desk the same desk clerk (chris hawkins) that checked me in. I got no offer to change rooms. No assurances that the fan would be fixed (it was SO loud that I could not turn on the bathroom light). When I pointed out the semen-stained couch, his response was; "Ewwwe", like a little girl. This, in and of itself, is not the worst experience. The worst of it was that they made me feel SO UNWANTED ... solely because I have a legitimate Service Animal. I am a 60 year-old Veteran with severe physical disabilities and a failing heart. This will be one of my last memories. THANK YOU (not) WORST-best western!
This motel was only minutes from Indiana Dunes State Park. Convenienty located near several good eateries and shops. The room was very clean, comfortable king bed, very nice shower in the bath, refrigerator, hair dryer, even an iron and ironing board in the room and on site laundry. Second floor rooms have balconies that overlook a wetland area on one side of the motel or a lake on the other. Very ample breakfast served from 6-9am included fresh fruit, waffles (with various toppings), eggs, sausage, bagles, muffins, yogurt, juice, coffe-it was impressive. Indoor pool, hot tub and sauna area was well maintained and also very clean. Glad we stayed there and will stay again if in the area as the staff was also very welcoming and helpful and all rooms are 'no smoking!' Booked through Trip Advisor and saved over 50% off regular rates!
I visited Chesterton in early May to do house hunting. I had stayed at this Best Western in April because the rates were very good. The staff is pleasant and helpful; the free breakfast is acceptable. Both times I had to change rooms because the noise level was unacceptable This hotel had no elevator which is strange
Pretty much everything about this place is great, exactly what you'd expect given what you're paying and the type of location. It's perfect for a little getaway due to its extremely close proximity to lots of good food and little historical places.
We stayed at the Best Western Indian Oak while attending our daughter's graduation. Our hotel room was clean and well kept. The hotel sits on a lake. It was fun to look out the windows and watch the geese, swans (with babies) and other wildlife. The staff was friendly and attentive to our needs. The continental breakfast was ok, but for free, it was fine. One of the other rooms (we had 3) had some nasty dust/mold in the HVAC unit, but other than that, all was good. We would stay here again. It is one of the closest hotels to the Indiana dunes.
I've stayed here several times, and each time it seems to get nicer. The owner has invested a lot into the property. The rooms are clean and very spacious. I like the lake views and the fact that each room has a patio or balcony. With an adjacent lake, you can get some honking geese at night. The free breakfast is on par with similar hotels. No complaints.
The kids loved this hotel. We took the train into the city and went to the Indiana Dunes. The rooms were very large and slept 5 to 6 people comfortable. Lots of food choices and the staff was very helpful.
This hotel sits on a beautiful lake with lots of wildlife just outside your door. I saw seagulls, raccoons and lots of ducks, including cute baby ducks. Great indoor pool. Staff was excellent but didn't know much about surrounding restaurants.
My husband and I stayed at this particular Best Western for 4 nights and it was wonderful! Beds are comfortable,tv has lots of channels and the room was very clean and spacious. It has a sliding door and balcony that was nice to walk out on and enjoy the wildlife. The hotel sits on a small lake that is home to some geese and ducks as well as sea gulls. We even spotted baby geese several times with their parents. Breakfast is included.Pretty standard sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy as well as cold cereal, pastries and fruit. There is also a small pub that is open until 11:00 for anyone that might want to enjoy a couple of beers. There's an indoor pool, which we did not use,but looked to be pretty nice. There's several restaurants close by including Crafthouse that carries a large selection of craft beers. There's also a Walgreens right next to the hotel, which turned out to be very convenient for me. All the employees were extremely friendly and helpful and I would definitely stay here again when in the area.
Conveniently located by great restaurants, shopping and anything else you may need while away from home. Loved the view we had of the lake. Friendly staff and would definitely stay here again when traveling.
This was by far the nicest place we stayed. And we traveled from Michigan to Alabama to Montana and back to Michigan. Many nights on the road. Right on the water and we even had a big Goose come to our patio.
We stayed here overnight on a family trip to a funeral. This was a good value, and the hotel met all our needs. The room was clean, and the amenities were as expected. Also, I enjoyed seeing the geese hang out around the hotel, which is seated next to a small lake.
It is under construction. Clarify you want to be in the main building, not the "sister property" which is under renovation. First floor room had the back door unlocked so I had someone go with me to make sure no one was in the room. Given the bait and switch in putting part of our group in the sister building which was under construction and in disrepair, I would not stay here again.
Had to stay longer than was expected for birth of grandchild at hospital down the road. Hotel was very well maintained but the continental breakfast on the one morning I availed myself of it was all very luke warm, including the coffee.
We wanted to stop at this hotel but man who was working on the front desk told us that he doesn't have any warm room up! That's mean there are all rooms are freezing cold. This is ridiculous! I've never heard so stupid reason! So I called next day and I've been told that is impossible. ..they have a lot of available rooms. Never again. ....
I stayed at this hotel due to a group booking by our high school for a school event in Chesterton, Indiana. I got off to a bad start. I did not receive my email confirmation of my reservation as was promised by the hotel when I made my reservation by phone. I called back to make sure my reservation was secure and was told my reservation had been cancelled although they could not tell me when or by whom. They did take care of it and so I was able to get the room type I wanted at our group rate. Check-in was quick and easy and they even let me check in two hours early. However, they did not tell me that there is no elevator at the hotel. Even though there are only two floors and my room was on the second floor, it was a struggle getting my luggage up the stairs due to my mobility problems. Had I known in advance, I would have requested a first floor room. They really should tell people that there is no elevator at the time the reservation is made. When I opened the door of my second floor room, I was hit with a strong smell of smoke. The hotel is supposed to be non-smoking. i called the desk to ask for a different room but they said they did not have anything else to offer. Instead, they sent a housekeeping staff member to spray the room with a spray that was supposed to make the smoke smell go away. She said that smoking guests step out on the room's balcony to smoke and leave the sliding door open so that the smoke gets into the room. This may be true, but this room smelled like it had been smoked IN. Even the bathroom smelled of smoke. The spray had only a negligible effect. If they know that guests do this then they really should spray and clean the room with products designed to eliminate the smoke smell BEFORE the next guest checks in. The walls seemed thin. I could hear everything the family in the next room were saying. The room itself was clean as was the parts of the hotel I that I saw. No complaints on actual cleanliness. My bed was very comfortable. As some others have noted, the furniture was sparse and a bit shabby but nothing terrible. Could use some sprucing up. The bathroom was sparkling clean and the water was hot with a nice shower. The towels had an unpleasant smell, not dirty, but probably from the detergent they use. Not fresh and sweet smelling as you usually find in a hotel. My room overlooked a lake and a tree lined area. The lake was frozen but it made for a charming view. At check-in, they told me the location of the breakfast area but not the hours and I didn't think to ask. When I went down for breakfast at a few minutes after 9 am, there was almost nothing left. The lady cleaning up the breakfast area said that they closed at 9 am. She did help me get some things together so I that I could have something to eat before checking out. Check-out was quick and easy. A gentleman guest going down the stairs saw me struggling with my luggage and carried it for me and also noted that we should have been told in advance about the lack of an elevator. Overall, not a terrible stay but would probably not stay there again. The staff really needs to do a better job up front preparing for the guests' stay.
I am a Veteran with a Service Animal. The reception from ALL Staff was exemplary. Also, I give the highest ratings to all Staff for the everyday operation of this hotel. Very professional AND friendly! - Article_86.
Quick summary: much is the same as a previous visit -- spacious, clean, well-kept room. Whether traveling through or needing to stay for a while, this is a good choice. My review is based on what I expect for a moderately-priced, well-kept hotel. Since there are not many other reviews since my previous visit, I refer readers to that more detailed review. Not much has changed, which means a very comfortable, spacious room. But to add: the wifi works very well. The staff are friendly and helpful. You are made to feel very welcome. There are some nice amenities, like a microwave, that can make things comfortable if you don't feel like going out. But some additions: I was here for a specialty interest group meeting. We found that there is no elevator in the hotel, which is okay for me, but people with mobility issues may need to request a first-floor room. Bringing equipment to a second-floor meeting room was not the easiest thing to do. Also: even in January, our meeting (basic but fine in most ways) became rather stuffy as the day went on. We had to prop open the doors -- in January. The management may have been more concerned that we would not be warm enough, but the ventilation could not keep up well. Again, breakfast was not terrible, but could easily be better in the baked goods and coffee departments. I stuck with the toast and cold cereal. If the breakfast were not free, I'd go elsewhere. Not much in the way of on-site dining, and I'm not that impressed with the options in the area. You can get a beer in a little bar area. So: of course, I'll be happy to stay again for this type of purpose. It provides many good reasons to stay for a clean, comfortable room, and is an easy reach to major highways in the area.
This is my "go to" hotel when I visit family in Chesterton, it is comfortable and clean, I love the pond/lake, it adds a nice view and has some great wild life. It is close to the main roads, restaurants and some light shopping.
This property is constantly being upgraded and the level of service is wonderful. It has become our "go to" place for frequent trips to and from Ohio. We heartily recommend it for family and business stays.
Excellent value and location. Stayed NYE to visit friends in NW IN who host a Polar Bear Swim each New Years Day. Chose because the rate was significantly cheaper than similar hotels within the area; the quality of room, pool, breakfast, and check-in and check out process was top-notch. Close to both our friends' house and shopping, dining, etc. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable room with friendly staff.
We enjoyed a nice overnight at Indian Oaks, Chesterton, IN, on our way east before the holidays. The motel staff is friendly and helpful, amenities, like internet, are reliable and fast. Breakfast was nicely presented in an inviting room. Spacious reception area and lounge in the front of the motel, overlooking a nice man-made lake with Canadian geese and some ducks.
Very pleased with the service from staff, the overall appearance, cleanliness, etc. of the motel, a very adequate complimentary breakfast and the convenience of the restaurants and shopping venues in the immediate area.
From the very first at check in, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel has no elevator, had several items to bring into the room, she offered to help me carry them up the stairs, this was after she tried to find me a room on the first floor, but could only find a room close to the stairs. The room was big and had a wonderful view of the lake, just wished it was summer so I could have enjoyed it, instead of the wind and ice. Room was clean. Bed was a little hard, but had no problem sleeping. Internet worked great. Nice little bar, though I did not use, but nice to sit and have a beer if you wanted. At check out, the Man who helped m was also very nice and helpful. Will stay there again
Our extended family has been having our annual holiday reunion at Indian Oak since 2007. Right from the beginning the staff has been most accommodating and supportive of our gathering, which averages about 55 people of all ages. In addition to using the hotel's meeting room, many of us out-of-towners use guest rooms over the weekend. It has been a pleasure to return each year to be greeted by the friendly staff and to see the ongoing improvements and enhancements to the property.
My husband and I had stayed at this hotel several times about 15 years ago for weekend get-aways. We stopped when we heard that the hotel was going throught rough times. I read new reviews that sounded positive and encouraging, and decided to take a chance again. We were pleasantly surprised from the minute we pulled into the parking lot. It was obvious a lot had been done externally to spruce up the hotel. The lobby had just been updated over the summer and looked beautiful. We had a lakeside room with a fireplace and whirlpool. The room was very clean and updated. The bathroom was also clean with a new shower head and updated counter, sink, etc. The lovely woman at the front desk was very pleasant and accomodating. She came immediately to our room when we had difficulty lighting our fireplace and stayed until we were confident we could light it ourselves. I am happy to say that I would definitely recommend this hotel again! We plan to be back in the near future!
well keep hotel staff went out of there way to help with any needs we had!! very quite and off the main road from traffic but very easy to get to. nice little town but things were closed on Sunday downtown.
Checked out the Deluxe King Suite with Lakeview, Spa Tub, and Fireplace. Room was awesome. View of the lake was very nice which was in contrast to pictures which showed a mostly mossed over lake. Had a good time. Breakfast was OK at best but we got full from it.
I was on the road to a final destination and called ahead while on the road to make a reservation on one of the busiest travel days of the year (the Wednesday before Thanksgiving). They had an open room and upon our arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room and the wonderful pool, hot tub & sauna as well as the great breakfast. Great job!!!!
very dissatisfied, hotel was aged and not fresh smelling or clean in appearance. heating and refrigerator in room buzzed incessantly...clerk indifferent to my complaint, we couldn't sleep and ended up checking out early morning and were not given a price break as I felt we should have...I will not be back..i feel Indians own these best western hotels and they are dirty and not maintained appropriately...we were married at this hotel (water bird) and 20 plus years later, very disappointed in hotel
Room clean, service excellent, breakfast delicious! Location for what we wanted was very convenient. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Very quiet room. Swans, geese, ducks fun to watch while eating breakfast.
Excellent value and beautiful location thought hard to get to but close to resturants Would definitely stay again. Good experience at check in and excellent service at check out. Very nicely decorated room and excellent for size and all good amenities
This lovely place has it all: friendly staff, comfortable lobby area with fireplace and TV, business room, pool, great breakfast, convenient to highway and area attractions, and set on a beautiful lake with lots of birds. It was a great escape and I came away feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Overall this hotel has a nice modern feel to it, thanks to a recent renovation. Our bathroom, however, was not very well done. Shoddy workmanship on the tile work & not all of the components in the bathroom were replaced or updated. Shower curtain rod was rusty & looked bad where it was attached to wall.
I recommend this hotel very highly. They are constantly upgrading and what they have now is wonderful. Friendly staff. Beautiful view of Chubb Lake, with swans to watch. Great breakfast. Very nice pool area and hot tub. A nice little tavern where domestic beer is $2.00 a bottle. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Chesterton.
Dirty rooms and a corrupt town would not even stop for gas in Chesterton Indiana let alone stay at that hotel e dr again. Stay away is your best bet!!!! Town has nothing to offer except getting pulled over by police for having out of state plates
My sister and I went for a relaxing overnight outing and decided to go within an hour from home. We chose Chesterton. I chose Indian Oak over the Hilton because of the lake. What the other reviewers didn't say (probably because they didn't realize) was that only the Queen and probably King beds have a lake view. We went with full size beds for the lower price, Sorry no lake views for full size rooms. I did ask on my internet booking for a water view, but I guess that's why it's better to call. Had I known that, I would have definitely booked the Hilton. Chris offered a Queen Sized room with a lake view but it was also $30 more. We were going to be out of the rooms shopping and eating, so it wasn't worth the extra for us. Also, because the views were supposed to be better from the second floor I didn't request 1st floor rooms since they don't have an elevator. Live and learn. 1) Chris checked us in. He was courteous and very hard working. I noticed in his spare time when there was no activity at the desk he was cleaning around the front lobby to keep it looking nice, and the next morning at breakfast he was doing a lot of hustling to make sure the breakfast went well. Best Western has a good employee there. 2) Breakfast was decent, typical for the hotel free breakfast spreads, but it was all good and hot if needed and cold (little fridge there for yogurt, butter and milk). I don't know if it was the group in there being very loud at 7:30 or it was the type of ceiling, but it was extremely loud and not the atmosphere for an early morning breakfast. I think the group was in for a wedding or a reunion so I understand the loudness (I'm sure when my family is in a similar place others are thinking the same). But it seemed worse than usual in that room. 3) The hotel room was pretty basic, no comfortable chairs to sit in, and no luggage rack. No chairs on the balcony, I guess they removed them because I saw them stacked downstairs. The balcony rooms still had theirs. 4) Our key cards deactivated twice for me, once for my sister. We went to the front desk to have them activated again, and of course both times we had our hands full trying to get into the door. I saw the hotel's response to a previous complaint about this and it was mentioned that cell phones can deactivate them. I was keeping mine in my cell phone/credit card case. It would have been nice if there was a little notice at the front desk about this. My credit cards are in the case and there's never a problem, so this never occurred to me. If you're a woman coming back in by yourself very late, it would be kind of a creepy walk back to the front of the hotel. 5) Pool was fine, hot tub felt good once I was in it, but it's about 3 feet high and no way to get in but climb in. Luckily I'm tall and I made it in. I don't thing more than 3 people could fit in comfortably. Now, how to get out. I slid up on a granite ledge and got down from there, but it was slippery getting out. This is a giant liability for the hotel and I can't believe they don't have stairs there with a railing. I wanted to go in after my night on the hard bed, but didn't want to go down there by myself and I'm not really known to be a scaredy cat. 6) The beds - I felt like I was sleeping on a hard board. I was up all night, trying to find comfortable positions. For this reason, I won't return to this hotel. My sister said the same thing about her bed, and we're totally different body types. I had to do about 15 min of stretches in the morning because everything hurt. I've read other reviews about comfortable beds - maybe they were in the queen or king sized beds. I would have left in the middle of the night if I wasn't so tired. 7) I would have loved to have had a comfortable place to sit and read my book for an hour. No chaise lounges by the pool, hard bed and no nice chairs in the room. The only nice chairs are in the lobby and they have ESPN on all day. So I won't be returning. I heard a few comments from others that they enjoyed it, but once again - they must have had different beds. If not for the beds I would consider returning, but I would pay the extra for a room with a view.
Lovely overnight stop. Friendly, polite staff. Hotel still under some renovation but updated and nice place to stay. Our room had patio doors so we could sit outside by the lake. There were a variety of waterfowl, and sunset and sunrise were lovely with the reflections in the water and the sounds of the birds. Peaceful. Hotel room good size with comfortable beds, clean bedding, linen. No lift but we were on the ground floor. Swimming pool was lovely, indoor, clean, warm. I did not use fitness room but it looked adequate. Breakfast: Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, "Biscuits and gravy" (US style). Waffles (make your own) etc. Fresh food, clean, light room. Plastic cutlery and paper plates. Would stay again and recommend.
I wish I could give this hotel 0 stars for so many reasons, I couldn't wait to get home to write this review. Lets start with the hotel itself. It is very outdated, we stayed here years ago and it was much better the rooms are not clean, bed is the worst along with the pillows and the décor is in the 80s. Breakfast was free and that's all it was. The second day we were at this hotel they were all out of juice other than the cranberry and the coffee is so weak really no point in even having it food it just awful. This is the really problem that we had. My daughter was getting married and I talked her into having everyone from out of town stay at this so called hotel since I thought it would be okay. When we checked in I thought okay its only for 2 nights so lets just deal with it but than it became a nightmare for us and my daughter and her husband to be. We checked in on Friday and that went fine however on Saturday morning I got a call from my soon to be son in law and he had been kicked out of the hotel since they couldn't fine his reservation and instead of the rude nasty woman Amanda doing her job and checking her computer she told him to leave the property. OMG I was so angry I went down to the front desk and talk about being nasty she was unbelievable and until my soon to be son in law got angry she never even offered to check the computer but by this time it was to late and he went to another hotel. We were all suppose to be together after the wedding and this didn't happen because of this woman and her not doing her job. My daughter was very stressed out about this and so much so that she ended up with a headache so bad that she could not finish her wedding. I spoke to the manager Chris on Sunday morning and he sided with his lying employee telling me the whole thing was blown way out and his words were ( well he just went to a different hotel). Well Mr. Chris is was a big deal.....................................So sad that you didn't see fit to put the customer first. We should never have even been charged for our stay and my daughter should get a full refund as well since you feel screwing up a wedding and treating your customer like that is NO BIG DEAL and taking the word of Amanda who was covering her butt plus she also had some guy who cleans the rooms ( big joke) standing there with her while she kicked my son out of the hotel. I will be calling the Corp office and letting them know not only how we were treated, asking for all of our money back and letting them know that this Amanda the shinning employee smokes in the front of the hotel where the guess pull up, real nice and classy. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else and if you do stay make sure you check and double check that you will have a room for the days you need them. This wasn't fancy but they were to spend their wedding night here and we are all suppose to be together after the wedding so again Mr. Chris ya its no BIG DEAL STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its been my go-to since they took over the hotel some years ago. Amenities have steadily improved and the rooms are great. King size bed, jacuzzi and patio overlooking a private nature reserve lake. Accessible to highway and excellent local eateries of various styles. Ask for a lake side room.
The staff were all very friendly and courteous, rooms were great, pool and sauna excellent as well. Breakfast was hot and fresh. Beautiful views overlooking a lake and water fowl. Close to all shopping and restaurants.
We were looking for a hotel close to the Dunes and I was not sure what to think after reading some of the reviews. I found the room to be very clean, very roomy and the bed was very comfortable. The location is perfect - between two interstates, minutes from the Dunes and is located walking distance from multiple restaurants and driving distances from dozens of them. My kids loved the indoor pool and hot tub/spa - it was the perfect thing after a day of driving. There were complaints in other reviews about the small lake that 1/2 of the rooms face. Every room has a patio or a deck, but half of them face this little lake. Clearly, the water level is down in the lake but my kids going out to look at the pair of swans, the Canada Geese, the Mallard ducks and the seagulls that swam all over the place. It was a nice bonus for the room to have this simple ability to step out, take a breath of fresh air and watch the sunset. The breakfast consisted of make-your-own waffles, biscuits & gravy, biscuits and sausage patties (I made my own sausage biscuit sandwich), yogurt, bagels, danishes, juices coffee, milk, cold cereal, bread for toast and more. There are two kinds of free newspapers available.
A very nice and clean Hotel. Room was clean, pool area was wonderful. Front office personal was very courteous. If we are in this area again we would stay here. We hope to wake up in time tomorrow morning so we can eat our FREE morning breakfast. Thank you!
look for wet spots on beds (under bedding. our bed had been made-up with a huge wet spot on it check the bathroom for black mold-ie in and around shower and any shower fixtures. Try the phone and television remote to ensure proper working order. Check screen doors for proper working order.
The breakfast and the view over the lake were real positives of our stay. The hotel is new and shiny and the rooms are very nice. But we arrived late, no one was around to check us in. I finally found the poor guy meant to be on reception sweeping the pool area. He was not happy about it and was upset almost to the point of being intimidating. Also BW need to review their loyalty program as we did not accrue points despite staying with them. Kind of defeats the purpose of a loyalty program when we paid more to stay here over other places nearby. Lesa was a star in the morning working the breakfast - really a ray of sunshine. Just a shame we had to wake up early to get in by 8:45 in order to get something to eat.
I frequently travel from Michigan to Wisconsin to visit family. This hotel is about half way. I've stayed there several times. It's close to the freeway but not noisy. Rooms were recently remodeled. Good morning breakfast!
First off let me say that the staff were on spot and even let me check in 3hrs early. With that said the hotel itself needs some work. They were doing construction on the outside of the hotel and it needed it, the outside looked old and decrepit like it was falling apart to the point that my wife asked me if this was really where we were staying. We had stayed in the king suite with hot tub and the room was rather small and the bathroom needed serious updates, the faucet to the shower was coming apart from the wall and the celling was showing water damage. There is a train not to far away from this hotel and the horn at night can be heard quite obnoxiously. The food they served for breakfast was boring and the eggs they served my kids would not even eat. on the brighter side the pool was nice and it was nice to be able to walk out our room door and the pond be right there. I do hope that the construction they are doing does not stop at the outside and they work on the food they are serving as this could be a nice hotel. The location to the dunes was perfect and there are plenty of dinning options nearby.
I really enjoy this location, the lake/pond outside is beautiful, it adds a lot to my stay. My only issue with this hotel is that they do not have an elevator, if you stay on the second floor you have to get your luggage up the stairs.
This place was clean, had friendly staff and a cool lobby. We were only here for the one night while on a road trip and we walked around the corner to a great place for burgers. Great location! Only downside was no elevator, so we had to carry our (admittedly) oversized suitcases upstairs.
