« Breakfast/Kim »

The breakfast buffet was excellent. The employee, Kim, who worked the breakfast area was excellent. She was constantly running to fill anything and everything that was empty. She also was pleasant when asked for items/questions. She is a true asset to the company,

« Very relaxing »

Just a warmer pool. Maybe a sitting area to read other than the lobby, which was also very comfortable. Was pleased with my whole experience. Can't think of any significant improvements that need to be made.

« Nice! »

Cute little hotel. Inexpensive. Very clean. Everyone is super nice. Pool is good. Good distance from Folly and downtown Charleston. Lots of food options around. Had to leave a day early due to a death in the family and was refunded the night we lost:)

« Very nice experience »

Lovely property, clean rooms and wonderful breakfast. Will definitely recomend this Best Western and would stay here again. We needed a room change to accomodate our needs, and the staff was very helpful and happy to assist.

Great location, great employees and a great company. Lots of good restaurant are nearby. Very close to the beaches and the many historical sights around town. I highly recommend this place if you're in or near Charleston!

« A Beautiful Surprise! »

The Best Western/Charleston Inn far exceeded my expectations. I don't usually stay at Best Western's, but the hotel location suited my needs for the weekend. And WOW...what a beautiful property! The lobby, the rooms, the breakfast area, the pool area....all beautifully decorated and very clean. I loved the beds....they had a nice cushiony top! Every staff person we encountered was friendly and upbeat. I would definitely stay here again. And I'm very picky about where I stay.

« Relaxing stay »

This property is located a short distance from the downtown Charleston area. The traffic is heavy at peak time early morning and late evening so we tried to avoid getting out on the road during those times. All the employees at this location were very helpful and accommodating.

« Great value »

nicely decorated, comfortable and clean. Very nice staff, especially Rick at the front desk. Really enjoyed the happy hour on Tuesday evening from 6-7 pm. The wings were delicious and the drink was a special treat.

« Immaculate »

Walked in without a reservation with family and was treated quickly and very nicely by staff, including offering info about where to eat an what to see locally. Room was spotless and beds were comfortable. Breakfast had great assortment of hot items including eggs, bacon, sausage, hash, biscuits & gravy and of course make your own waffles.

« Bit of a roach problem »

I think the title says it all. I would've given this hotel a 3 or 4 normally. It wasn't fancy, but I knew that going in. It has a microwave & refrigerator. It's close to plenty of restaurants and stores. The complimentary breakfast was actually pretty good... and it was a little different each day. The staff was friendly enough, though I didn't engage too much beyond check in and check out. Even though there wasn't a fitness center, they had free day passes to Planet Fitness (though it wasn't advertised, you just ask at the counter and they'll get you the pass) my main complaint it we found multiple roaches crawling around the room. There was one on the dresser when we came back from dinner one night, one in the bathroom, and one in the separated sink area in the morning. Finding (and killing) three roaches leads me to believe there were plenty more. I don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon to see if they've resolved the problem though.

Everyone was awesome,i t help's when you have great customer service from checking in to check out just great. The ladies at the buffet breakfast and the guests was so nice to my special need's son, he said mom let's go back soon.

« What a deal »

We just loved our one night stay in this hotel. A huge room with very comfortable beds, lots of towels and a refrigerator. Our room had a pretty pool view; too bad the weather was not cooperating. This hotel offers good free breskfast, and, believe it or not, their coffee is better than the one we had in the historic district the day before.

« Great pet friendly hotel »

Easy to get to on Southern highway (17). Convienient to downtown and I-26. Very easy to get downtown also. Very clean and great for pets. Lots of areas for walking pets. The staff is very accommodating and helpful

« Well-maintained BW near Charleston attraction »

We enjoyed our overnight stay at this BW. We had a top floor near the end, facing the pool. The pool was not heated and the water was quite cool. That made for a quiet evening after the sun went down. The room was a good size with two beds. We liked having two sinks. The cathedral ceiling really made the room feel large. The breakfast area was nice and large with different stations. That made the traffic flow much better. There was a good variety of items from which to choose.

« Great location, awesome breakfast »

My husband and I had a romantic (kids-free!!!) getaway, and the hotel a very nice base for all the touristy things we did in Charleston. It is just a 10 or 15 minute drive from downtown Charleston, but the hotel is surrounded by fun, local restaurants. We ate at the Swig and Swine and it was awesome! Our room was on the second story, accessible only by stairs, with an outside door. The room was clean, and I appreciated the Kuerig coffee maker in the room with several coffee options. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. Upon checkout, the lady at the desk asked if I would want any bottles of water for our trip, as they were complimentary. I thought that was a nice touch. The breakfast was the best part of our stay. They had the usual cereals, bagels, yogurt, etc, but we especially enjoyed the biscuits and gravy, egg and cheese omelets, meat (sausage patty one day, bacon the next), and a waffle maker with an option for blueberry waffles. Delicious!! Overall, we definitely felt like we got our money's worth with this hotel, because it was in a great location, it was nice and clean, and had a great staff with wonderful breakfast options.

5
« I'd rate it at a 4.5 »

When we were looking for hotels, this one seemed a bit of a drive to downtown Charleston. We were pleasantly surprised that it is closer than we thought. Our room was quiet and the bed comfortable. I loved having a sofa in the room because chairs are so uncomfortable when relaxing. Another plus, the air conditioner was very quiet. This hotel is close to grocery stores, if you want to have some refreshments in your room, and there are good restaurants close by. The only negative was the breakfast. Neither hubby or I could find something decent to eat from the hot menu selections. If we travel to Charleston again, we plan on staying here. The staff were courteous and helpful.

4
« Good value, close to downtown »

Decent hotel, around 5 miles from Charleston Centre. It's an easy drive from the hotel to downtown, basically along one road. Excellent staff. Clean comfortable bed, updated room, and pretty grounds with a pool. Because it's on the edge of town close to highways, getting out of town in the morning is fast and easy.

5
« Great Stay »

We stayed here for 2 nights recently. I have to admit, I was leery of Best Westerns as they seemed rather rundown generally when viewed from the road. Well, this one was great. Now understand, you are not paying $200+ a night but for being a bigger, touristy city and paying a reasonable rate, this place was fantastic. Breakfast was good, room was very clean, quiet. Our room overlooked the central courtyard and felt like we were somewhere exotic. Staff was very nice. Bedding, linens, amenities were all very good. Parking was free. All together, I can highly recommend this location and hotel for a nice visit to Charleston. It was about 15-20 minutes from King Street, close to James Island and plantations. I think you will be pleased. We were in room 100 and as I mentioned, it was very quiet.

4
« Best Breakfast »

The breakfast was the best I've seen. The employee (Kim) had all stations clean, well stocked, and outstanding in every way. Kim was very attentive of not only the food, but also to the needs and requests of her guests. Well done Kim!!!

« Nice hotel but pricey. »

This hotel was nice and clean. Room in the back was quiet, no street noise. Pool looked nice but did not use it. Breakfast was ok, not great but not bad. Room was on the second floor and they do not have elevators but there was someone who helped us carry our bags up the stairs. Hotel is close enough to historic Charleston that it wasn't an issue because we had a car.

« Best Western Savannah Highway »

Excellent hotel. Very convenient place to stay. Very easy access to historic Charleston, shopping, beaches, and historic plantations. Service staff are terrific I will stay there again in the near future and recommend it to others.

« An Unexpected Surprise »

We often stay in Best Western hotels. The rooms are typically comfortable and well appointed but this time BW went above and beyond. The woman who checked us in was superb - professional, friendly and thorough. We had missed lunch because of our visit to the Charleston Tea Plantation (a must-see because it's the only one in the USA). It was 3:00 p.m. and we were ready to chow down. Her recommendation was the Swig and Swine close by which just happened to serve great barbeque. Back at the hotel, our room was special in that it was on the ground level with its own private forest outside the window. All in all we loved our stay and it is just 20 minutes from downtown.

3
« Good not great, but perfect for the price »

It was a nice hotel. I would have made the choice to spend more money and stay downtown if I go back again . The property and room was clean, however it had the underlying smell like people were smoking previously in the room. Fresh linens and coffee were provided daily. The setup is more like a motel and we were on the second floor, you will walk outside to get to your room. It wasn't loud that was a plus, just people smoking on the walkway between the outdoor rooms made it uncomfortable. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and you can tell it was recently renovated.

« Overnight Stay after Attending local Festival »

My wife and I stayed at this hotel after attending the Low Country Cajun festival on James Island. The facility is bright and extremely clean. The room was very clean and comfortable as well. Every one of the staff we encountered were very nice and welcoming. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding! We will definitely utilize this hotel for any of our overnight stays in Charleston.

4
« Great Exprience! »

My sister and I spent five nights here and were so pleased. The room was very clean, had comfortable beds, and even had a little fridge and a microwave. The staff was friendly and very responsive. An unexpected bonus was how good the "continental" breakfast was. Every day there were make-your-own waffles and pancakes, as well as the usual eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, bagels, and pastries. The only reason I gave this property four stars is that it is situated on a very busy highway and it was difficult to get in and out of the place because of the traffic.

4
« Beautiful Hotel »

Stayed here for two nights while traveling north from Florida. It is a beautiful facility with comfortable, clean rooms. Staff was very friendly. The breakfast consisted of hot and cold items and served in a nice room. Well landscaped with beautiful azaleas that were in bloom. Would definitely stay here again.

4
« Great location and clean hotel »

We stayed two nights last week, and had a wonderful stay. The room was not large, but it was clean and had everything that we needed. The breakfast was nice and a great way to start the day. The hotel is located close to a grocery store, restaurants, and other stores. It is located about 20 minutes from Charleston and met our needs. I would stay here again. I gave it a 4 starts due to the size of our room and bathroom.

4
« Surprisingly awesome »

I felt I would not be impressed by this hotel so my expectations were low- but it was great! Didn't give 5 stars because it's not a 5 star hotel with 5 star amenities. But it was clean and pretty and my shower was amazing! I will for sure recommend this hotel for visitors to Charleston. We had a microwave, fridge and a keurig. Walls were thin so that's something to be aware of. I used a white noise app on my phone and all was well. Happy travels!

5
« Superior cleaning staff »

We recently stayed here and our daughter got ill the first night (not due to the hotel!). We told Sarah (the person responsible for cleaning our room) and she couldn't have been kinder. She cleaned the room thoroughly and then asked if our daughter felt better the next time we saw her. We truly appreciated her attention to details and the good care she took of us!

« 3 NITE STAY »

Visited Charleston and stayed here for 3 nights. Rooms nice and clean, property kept up very well. Breakfast was very adequate with hot choices everyday and well maintained eating area. Too cool for pool area but appeared very neat

« St. Patrick's Day Getaway »

The service from the check in until check out was very good. The room and bathroom were especially cleaned by the Housekeeper - Dianna Hamilton. Ms. Margaret kept the breakfast area restocked during breakfast and she was very helpful. The hotel was very close to the Citadel Mall, where we shopped and saw a movie!

4
« Family Wedding. »

Asked for a handicap room but it was on second floor with no elevator. The motel was full with no first floor rooms. However, the staff made sure we got a first floor room and moved all our belongs for us.

5
« Great stay in Charleston »

I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Charleston area. Very close to downtown without the high downtown rates. Checkin and checkout were fast and efficient. I was especially impressed by the employee at checkin. Our room was not ready as we had arrived early and she gave us suggestions for nearby restaurants for lunch. She was also ready with maps to downtown and nearby attractions! The room was clean and spacious. Would definitely return.

5
« Enjoyable Stay »

The room was very clean. Woman at the front desk was very nice and breakfast was great, there were lots of food choices to please everyone. The Hotel is located 3 miles downtown and easy drive to three of the Plantations. They had lots of visitor information in the lobby. I would defiantly stay there again.

5
« Excellent Best Western »

This BW is very clean and well maintained. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff and housekeeping did a great job too. The location is close to town, but at a very modest price. We had a great stay!

5
« Great Value »

Great location - close to city for an excellent room. Extremely fast internet. A good breakfast- warm and a variety. Washer and dryer on site, good restaurants nearby. Just a great value for your dollar. Stick with BW when you travel.

5
« Great hotel for the price »

We usually stay in a Best Western because is a good price for a standard stay, well, this particular Best Western was one of the best we ever stayed. The room was well decorated and very clean, the rain shower was almost like beeing at home, the have a hairdryer that works really really good!!! The beds were comfortables. The breakfast was until 10:00 during the week and 10:30 on weekends!!!!!! We loved that. And you have several option to choose from to eat, waffles, cereal, fruit, egs, juice, yogourt.... It's in a good location, 15 to 20 min. from downtown depending on the traffic, with markets and restaurants around.

1
« Did not get past the desk »

As we drove up the East Coast staying nightly in Best Western hotels, we hit Charleston. Because the desk clerk was arrogant and condescending, we did not stay. We left and drove to a Motel 6 which cost half as much with a desk clerk who was delightful. Having stayed in 6 or 7 other Best Western hotels on this trip, this was an anomaly.

4
« Surprisingly nice »

I had a business trip to Charleston and was looking for an affordable hotel. This came up with good reviews in a decent area close to historic downtown. I was very surprised. While the hotel is an older hotel they have remodeled the rooms and they are very stylish and updated. The Bed was comfortable and the area was quiet. The breakfast in the morning was quite good and had a great selection. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

4
« Clean and fresh »

This was our first time at a Best Western. We were on a wandering road trip through the south east. After this stay we stayed at Best Westerns the rest of the trip. It is an "older style" exterior entrance motel but it has been extremely well maintained. It is a clean, comfortable, reasonably priced facility inside and out.

• 4
« Clean and fresh »

This older style motel is meticulously maintained. The linens were crisp, fresh and clean. The staff is friendly and willing to help. I would stay here again. The only issue I had was that after staying 3 nights I realized the cleaning crew loves to get started early, so don't expect to sleep in. The comfy bed will make you want to sleep in though.

5
« GREAT »

Everything was wonderful, the staff and facility were excellent. Breakfast the nest morning was great as well. The only issue we ran into was the parking. There wasn't enough parking spaces for the amount of rooms.

4
« Couple vacation with dog »

We loved this hotel as it was clean, had comfortable beds and was in a great location. We visited both Charleston and Folly Beach while staying there. The breakfast coffee was amazing and there was a good variety of foods to choose from. It is very dog friendly and in fact our dog was given a bag of treats and two bottles of water when we registered. We would definitely stay here again.

3
« It's ok. »

I've stayed here a month or two for work. I think the second room I got there were cockroaches climbing out of the tub drain. The wifi signal is really weak if you're staying in the back building, if you get one at all. Breakfast is pretty good, but would be better if they mixed it up a bit and added some variety. Other than that I can't complain. Also the ladies at the front desk have always been really nice!

4
« Great hotel if traveling with your dog »

We were happy to have a clean room with a fridge and microwave. The breakfast was decent compared to other hotels in this price range, and had a really great variety of choices. We were very impressed with the friendly staff. We will stay here again if we come back to Charleston.

5
« Park and cruise Charleston »

We stayed at the Best Western the night before our anniversary cruise because of their stay and cruise package. The front desk manager was able to accommodate us, even though we got there early, with an immaculate well appointed room. We skipped breakfast, but the coffee was quite good. The shuttle to the port is a quick 15 minute ride, and they are willing to drive guests at different times. We were instructed to park in the back of the complex, and all was fine when we arrived back six days later. I highly recommend this package, the staff really knows what they're doing.

4
« Meet expectations »

This is a decent hotel, with clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. I appreciate the room having two separate sinks, which is good for family. there are also plenty of built-in USB ports for charging your phones, ipads, kindles, etc. there is an in-room microwave and small fridge. There are plenty of parking and the staff is very friendly and helpful. However, be aware that, even though the hotel is only 4 miles from the cruise port, French Quarter and City Market, it can take 15-20 mins to get there because of heavy traffic on the Savannah Hwy.

4
« Great place outside Charleston »

We had a great stay here for two nights. The hotel is very close to Charleston so was easy to get in to town for a tour, and for dinner. This is an old hotel with two floors and the doors to the room to the outside - no elevator so if you have issues with stairs as we do ask for a bottom floor. We did and they accommodated us no problem. The room was small but clean and had all the standard amenities. When we got back from Charleston for our second night, the room had been cleaned and made up. Breakfast was good although they don't always refill the hot dishes very quickly. A good stay, would recommend!

4
« ?Good hotel for the price? »

We stayed here 2 nights and found everything to be good except for the smell of urine in the room. The front desk staff was very welcoming. The room was a good size. The breakfast area was a liitle small to accomodate everyone. We had to wait for a table to sit and eat. It was convenient to downtown. Would stay here again.

5
« Easy and Cheap Cruise and Park Package »

The service was great the night we stayed in the room. Breakfast had plenty of delicious options. Didn't have to wall a mile to smoke. The price for my family hotel stay with Park and Cruise Shuttle was excellent. I will stay here for every port visit!

« No frills, but fantastic! »

We were looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel in Charleston for a short trip to the city, and this Best Western knocked it out of the park! The room was clean, the beds comfy, and the staff kind, helpful, and welcoming. From housekeeping to the front desk to the breakfast attendant, we were treated like valued guests. The location was also awesome. Even during the evening rush it was easy to get downtown and back. It's surrounded by various dining and shopping options as well. If you're looking to a basic hotel for a fair price and attentive hosts, this is your place! We would definitely stay again!

4
« Quaint hotel in a good location, especially if you need to stay a while »

Clean rooms and great service. Kim, the breakfast attendant, is awesome. She works very hard to ensure the food is always stocked and will get anything you desire immediately if it is not already out. Front desk attendants are also very courteous and helpful. The only recommendation I would have for the dining room is to have a selection of fresh cut fruit in addition to the apples, oranges and bananas that are already offered.

5
« Southern hospitality a it's finest »

Stayed two nights enroute to Florida. Greeted warmly and graciously by reception desk. Room was clean, quiet and spacious. The staff at this location are outstanding! Breakfast was hot, plentiful and delicious. First time and this area and we asked the staff multiple "touristy" questions. They answered us with politeness an patience. t will be on our itinerary to stay at this Best Western again. Keep up the good work and thank your excellent staff for a great stay!

3
« Clean but aloof staff and lackluster service »

We stayed a couple of nights in comfortable clean room. But if you're hoping for friendly and attentive staff, you may be disappointed. If the food or coffee runs out before 10 a.m., don't expect any effort to them to accommodate or apologize. Staff could use training in customer service.

4
« great place to stay, wish it was quieter »

i had a great stay here, staff was nice, breakfast was great, room was clean. The only issue i had was the walls to the room were very thin and had very loud people staying next to me. neighbors were up till 1 with the tv blaring on one side and singing on the other side. I'm sure this doesn't happen all the time, but just something to watch out for.

3
« Great stay if you cruise! »

I wish TA had a good rating because that's what this hotel is. It's not average but it's also not quite to the very good mark. It is, however great if you are heading out of Port Charleston on a cruise. Rooms were fine. Breakfast typical. Price to park and cruise was economical and the transports to and from the port were flawless and swift. A+ on the transfers. Hotel is close to downtown but Savannah Hwy is EXTREMELY busy with traffic. If I ever cruise out of Charleston I would likely stay here again.

4
« Great location »

It has a great location. It is just outside Downtown Charleston on the main road into the center of town. The Airport is only a ten-minute drive away. Considering the prices of hotels in Charleston, this hotel has great value.

5
« Best Western »

We stayed at three Best Westerns on this trip and this was by far the nicest. Still a motel, but the room was bigger and nicer than average. The free breakfast was good. It's about a 20 minute drive (without traffic) to old downtown Charleston. We had an electric car and there was a charging station just down the block within walking distance. There was a pool but we didn't use it.

3
« Good price... questionable security »

Wife and I stayed two nights. There are 2 buildings, and we were put in the sort of lower-end back section. At 1:30 am, someone tried to break into our room through the adjoining room door. My wife yelled at the person (I was sleeping under medication) and they ran out of their room and away. Admittedly we did not report it until the next morning, and they gladly switched us to a room in the front building. They had quite a few construction workers staying there, some of whom would stand around talking loudly in the parking lot. With this being an all outdoor entrance hotel, the sound of those conversations carry. Breakfast was fine, about what one would expect from an economy hotel. The staff was attentive, and that meant a lot with the security issue that came up. We probably wouldn't stay here again.

5
« Nice Stay »

We arrived at 2am to our room. It was in perfect condition. This is an older hotel, but nice. We were located in the second building (not attached to the main building). The breakfast was great! Love the pancake maker.

• 4
« Great place to stay before or after a cruise »

We looked for a hotel that had a free shuttle to and from the port and where we could park our car during the cruise. This really fit the bill. Our room was great with a comfy bed, microwave, refrigerator, beautiful bathroom and nice view. The staff was welcoming, fast, and very helpful. The shuttle service was very good with next to no wait time and with the shuttle waiting for us when we disembarked. Breakfast had several hot choices and was good. We will stay here again.

5
« Great hotel, great location,great price. »

I was concerned that this Best Western wasn't located in the Historic District, so my first surprise was to find out that it is only 5 minutes driving to King and Meeting Streets!!! It was also close to every major tourist spot in Charleston, just a few minutes driving. The hotel is really good, VERY clean, GREAT breakfast included and a staff that it really is something else and makes the difference! If you are planning to go to Charleston and visit this city, do not waste your money in booking an expensive hotel where to stay. After all, you will spend most of your time outside and you will need a good place where to take a shower and rest at night in order to charge your battery for the next day. And with its location, close to everything, you will be more than happy staying at the Best Western and using the saved money in visiting more places and enjoying the fine restaurants this beautiful city has to offer.

5
« Great place to stay and for cruise parking and shuttle. »

Staff is friendly, rates are fair, being able to stay the night, leave my vehicle there and being shuttled to the port for my cruise was great. the continental breakfast was a bonus. Will definitely use them again for future cruises from Charleston,SC.

5
« Charleston »

Great hotel Very central close to heaps of dining options and close to historic areas Rooms are spacious and very clean Breakfast was really good Only negative is people smoking all over the place as rooms are smoke free Buds everywhere and reeks of smoke

4
« Great cruise package »

Very convenient pre-cruise package available at this hotel. The shuttle service to and from the port worked out great. We did not even wait when we got off the ship, the shuttle was waiting for us. Hotel was clean and breakfast was included as well.

« Not What I Expected ! »

I checked in to the hotel on my way back from Florida on 12/31/17 to visit some family. i booked the suite until 01/03/2017. The check in was smooth and fast and I went to the suite which was on the second floor. There are no elevators so you do have to carry your bags up the stairs. On first glance the suite seemed nice enough with a spacious living room and dining area with a flat screen tv,microwave and refrigerator and a bedroom and bath room but upon further inspection I noticed that wall outlets didn't work and the bathroom exhaust fan as well as some of the wall outlets to plug up shavers didn't work. As the outside temperatures dropped the living room area temperature dropped to 63 degrees even though I I had the heat set to 74 degrees which by the way was the maximum temperature you could turn the heat up to in the suite. I called the front desk the following morning and they did promptly send the maintenance man to try and correct the problems. He changed the heating system filter was was very dirty but it didn't make the living room any warmer because the problem was that the airflow to the living room air vent was not strong enough to deal with the cold temps which were in the 20's. I called the front desk asked to be put in a another room which they did but they didn't want to give me a room discount for the inconvenience of having to not only downgrade my room but also having to move to it in the cold until I threatened to go next door to the Sleep Inn. My wife did not want to wash our clothes because the laundry room was outside in the cold.( What a dumb idea that is ! ). The free breakfast was decent in a nicely appointed room overlooking the pool and the woman that was in charge of it was very nice. Overall my stay was disappointing and I would not stay there again.

« Great breakfast! »

The breakfast had lots of choices! I was very impressed with that! We got in late and went straight to bed and then just woke up had breakfast and headed out, so we didn't really do anything else there, but the staff all seemed very nice.

Kim from continental services, was a delight, courteous and friendly . She provided much needed relief and break from the sub zero snow storm outside, where as such events are normally anomalous for this area.

« Great Value »

The check-in staff was very friendly. The room was in excellent condition, could not tell that this is a pet friendly hotel. GREAT value when you consider the rate. Less than 10 minutes from the tourist areas of Charleston.

« Great place to stay at an excellent value »

I arrived after midnight and was greeted by very friendly front desk staff. She sorted out the mess I had made online a had me in my room in just minuets. upon arrival at my room, I was pleased to find a clean and modern room.I stayed two nights and would have stayed longer but had to get to my next destination!

« Best kept secret »

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of this Best Western. Rooms were very clean, grounds were very nicely kept, but the best thing is their customer service. Staff is very friendly! My teenagers kept sleeping in and we got to breakfast late (10 min. til closing) They ran out of hot water but made me a pot for tea. We ran out of TP and when we called they were at our door within 2 minutes. At other hotels we would have to hunt them down for anything. We also brought our dog and they have ample areas to walk them. But please clean up after your own pets. Lots of customers did not. My kids want to go back in the summer to enjoy the pool area. We also like the fact it's a couple of miles outside the touristy stuff.

« Decent property but breakfast could be better »

It's a good value motel near Charleston peninsula with friendly personnel. The room facilities are modern. The breakfast was a bit overcrowded I had to ask for eggs to be supplied and a bit of noise in the rooms as their are next to the parking

It is a comfortable staying experience. It is conveniently located in the city. I found the music in the lobby very beautiful and with excellent taste. The breakfast was very enjoyable, which was also a great help to our travel schedule

« Bright, quiet, good pool, pancake autobot! »

We stayed 2 nights as we explored Charleston. Really liked this hotel for the comfortable rooms, well lit and spacious breakfast area and the fascinating pancake robot was memorable. It worked very well, because I just had to try it out and was completely satisfied. Staff in the breakfast area was hard working and always checking things were to your satisfaction. Pool got some use, but sunning on the deck was the priority after a day exploring. We would certainly stay again.

« Great value »

Great stay and a great value compared to other hotels in the area. Room was well decorated and clean - staff is friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again! Not far from downtown restaurants or the islands.

« Decent place »

Booked a room here last minute while taking a detour to Charleston off I95. Nice place, in a good location to down town, clean, friendly staff even offered my service dog a dog biscuit, not noisey at all, we slept well, the price for location was good too.

« Great value »

Stayed at the Best Western in Charleston - quick Lyft/Uber ride to downtown. Great place to stay and prices were great! If you are looking for an affordable hotel that is not too far from downtown, this is a good place to stay.

« Nice, Clean & Affordable »

Rooms were clean, grounds were well maintained. My stay was quiet and the breakfast was good. The location of the hotel was central in the West of the Ashley part of Charleston, making it easy to get around.

« Perfect location close to downtown »

This Best Western motel is perfectly located a few miles outside downtown Charleston - thus much cheaper than staying in the city. Rooms are large and clean, there is a pool, and breakfast is a little better than basic (you can make your own waffles and pancakes). The girls in the reception are friendly - but you can't ask the about anything outside the motel's premises. Never mind.

Very nice hotel with a clean, quiet, safe and comfortable room. May only qualm is the fact this is the fourth review for a one night stay that I've been asked to participate in. How many more to go I wonder?

« Nice motel »

I called directly to the motel to make reservations and was greeted by a very pleasant and helpful lady. She took my information and I requested a ground floor because I was traveling with pets. When we arrived, I was given a ground floor on the back side which worked out great for taking the dogs in and out. At nighttime the area was well lighted making you feel safer when going out at night. The doors opened up to the outside. We found the room to be clean and fresh. Everything was in working order. Breakfast the next morning was great and the lady attending to the area kept it clean and stocked. If you are on the backside of the motel, you will have to walk around the other buildings to get to the breakfast area.

« Excellent Quarters »

We wish to thank you for services at Charleston Inn. We were certainly not disappointed by any means with our stay there. We must confess that its location seemed a bit out of place, but certainly convenient. (Nothing wrong on BW's part at all.) We are certainly glad we trusted how we'd found Best Western in the past -- our stay there was very pleasant and the room was excellent! Frankly, this was the best room out of the three we stayed at. We didn't get to meet much staff because we left early morning to get to Fort Lauderdale.

« Great Time. »

Everything on this stay was great. Great staff, great room, great breakfast, great location to Charleston downtown and reasonably priced. Could not have ask for more. The staff went out of their way to help us in any way the could. The grounds were keep up nicely. the breakfast staff was great also. Keep up the good work. Would definitely stay here again.

« Great hotel, good value, just outside of downtown Charleston »

Stayed here five nights while we explored the Charleston area. Location was great, much lower price than downtown hotels but easy to get in/out of town. Breakfast was fine, included hot food items such as mini omelets, waffles, sausage, etc., as well as the other usual items for breakfast. Room was very clean and well maintained every day by the staff, who were always helpful and cheerful, but never obtrusive. I would definitely stay here again on a next visit to Charleston.

5
« Nice Room »

Very courteous staff, nice room, awesome breakfast. The lobby was just decorated for the holidays, wonderful scent. Entire facility was very clean. Only a few miles from downtown Charleston. Able to pull right up to the door for easy unloading/loading of the car. Would definitely book again

« Surprisingly Nice »

Great hotel, unbelievably quiet, even though it was full every night. About 12 mins to the main tourist destinations. Given the price it was much nicer than I expected. Very clean, very helpful staff. Breakfast was not the best I've had, but was more than adequate.

« Want a good night sleep? this is it!!! »

One of the best features of this hotel is the rooms in the back off the main road and away from the pool for peace and quiet. The pool is beautiful and the breakfast room is more like a dining room with a nice selection of quality foods. A must stay when in Charleston. easy access to downtown or the beaches.

« not what you think it will be »

The rooms all have outside entry and the upstairs rooms must be accessed by an outdoor stair case lots of fun with luggage. Paper Thin walls so very nosy and the room was dirty. the picture and price indicate a much better hotel than it was --about the caliber of a motel 6

« "Go To" place in Charleston, SC. »

Very clean. Staff was attentive and competent, including house-keeping staff. Everything worked as it should. Excellent value for the money. We definitely will stay at this location again. Parking was convenient to the room (room was quiet) and the motel is within walking distance to several excellent restaurants. Excellent value for the money.

« Last minute stay »

This Best Western was nice and staff was nice. The quality of the room compared to the cost of the room were not compatible. The room rate was extremely high especially for a room with street access. The pool was beautiful and a nice size. I would stay here again, hopefully the rate will be less. The rate of the room was only a few dollars less than the Hampton Inn.

« Comfortable - Good location »

We were warmly welcomed by Shanavia. She was very helpful with explaining where our room was, breakfast hours, wifi pw, etc. Very pleasant and friendly. During our stay and at checkout - everyone at the front desk was always cheerful and helpful. The location was great. About 20 minutes to downtown by car. About 20-30 minutes to Drayton Hall, Middleton Place and Magnolia (to mention a few.) There are a lot of great places to eat in within a mile or so in either direction. Lots of outlets - especially bedside for cpap and charging. Bed was extremely comfortable. TV worked well - lots of stations and viewing guide. The room was very clean and large. King bed with sofa and coffee table. Breakfast room was large, clean, very nicely decorated and the selection of food was generous. No complaints.

4
« Clean, comfortable, very good breakfast »

We stayed three nights and were very pleased with our room. It was at the back of the hotel (farthest from the highway) so it was very quiet. The room was comfortable and clean. The included hot breakfast was a step above the usual breakfast offerings. The sausage patties and eggs were a welcome addition to the usual waffles, cereal, yogurt, etc. There were even biscuits and gravy! The front desk staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. The location right on the highway made it easy to get downtown quickly without paying the exorbitant prices for staying downtown. I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area.

A comfortable room with a nice breakfast in an ideal location for the Charleston area. I loved the Angel live oak tree in Johns Isaland and Folly Beach - unique seashore town. I saw two plantations and spent time in historic Charleston with its great dining.

« Very nice and quiet »

Check in was a breeze and our room was on the ground floor. Room is very clean and beds comfortable. Breakfast area is large and good selection. The weather was nice enough to eat outside in a nice area. Landscaping is very good. This is the 3rd BW we have stayed in the last 3 nights and it is the best one so far. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed on a cruise package. We done this here before and never disappointed. This is very convenient both driving into Charleston from I-526 and for the shuttle to the port. My suggestion is to arrive early and just relax. Great BBQ within a very short walk.

« Excellent value and clean hotel with friendly staff »

We stayed at the hotel for two nights while waiting to sail out on a cruise ship. The hotel was recently redone. It was clean and comfortable, with beautiful grounds and large pool. The staff was friendly and helpful and very professional. Breakfast was good with many fresh options. The cruise and park option worked out well, with a smooth transfer too and from the port and safe parking for out vehicle. I would stay here again any time!

« Wonderful stay! »

This is a really nice hotel with a great friendly helpful staff. The grounds and room were very clean with the amenities you would expect from a hotel these days. I had been by this hotel many times and have usually stayed at the Sleep Inn next door but when Choice Hotels screwed me out of promotional points for recent stays, I cancelled my reservation at Sleep Inn and reserved here. I am so glad I did. Anymore Choice Hotels I have stayed at have been a toss up as to whether you get a gem or a dud but I was very impressed with Best Western. If this hotel is an example it looks like they have upped their game and I will be using them from now on.

« Good, but not great. Ok for the price. Busy »

Nicely repurposed older motel. Rooms are fresh, but dark. Limited natural ventilation. Old, noisy AC fan. Breakfast was typical motel fare. Fresh fruit would be a plus. Ran out of coffee 2x in 3 days.

« Nice place for good price. »

This hotel is close to several restaurants and conveniently located for sightseeing. It is comfortable and had a full hot breakfast. The staff was very helpful. Our tub drain was stopped up, and they came to fix it immediately after we reported it. Rooms open to the outside, no inside corridors, which is what we prefer.

« Great location! »

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days. It was clean and quiet. The staff was super friendly. We ate breakfast here twice (included with the stay) and it was what you'd expect - eggs, waffles, yogurt, etc. It is 15 min from downtown Charleston which was perfect for us, and there are several AWESOME restaurants within a mile or two.

Great value....clean....friendly service and very good breakfast. Location was close to downtown with lots of options for places to eat. Had a Dunkin Donuts nearby!!! Great for lovers of DD coffee! Best Western was a much better value than the downtown hotels....and so easy to get to. Greeted warmly by staff. During our road-trip to North and South Carolina we stayed at 4 different hotels....this was by far the best.

We flew to Charleston for my son's wedding and had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was so nice and the rooms were big and comfortable. « Fantastic stay close to downtown Charleston »

We booked this hotel due to the close proximity to the downtown Charleston area as well as the great value. This hotel had one of the highest ratings in the area and it did not disappoint. Only a 10 minute drive to downtown helped to make this an easy place to visit.

« Summary of stay »

The hotel was nice enough for the price. We liked it and enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was just ok, eggs were scrambled but in one big lump. sausage patties both days, should alternate with bacon or links.

« Ideal base »

This was an ideal base for exploring the Charleston area. Better value than in town itself with ample parking and quiet, peaceful nights. Our room was clean and comfortable and there is a good sized pool to relax by. They were a little unbending when my husband asked for a late check out as he had an evening flight but other than that it was very good.

This was another good BW hotel. There were no problems and the breakfast was good. The bed was comfy. It was the quality you expect from BW hotel. The TV was on when I walked in and Star Wars was playing so that was a good sign.

« We love this place! »

We've always enjoyed our stays here and love the updates they recently made. The new decor and furnishings are very nice and well laid out. Our room was exceptionally clean and the bed was so comfortable (and I have back problems). The free breakfast is the best anywhere and the dining area is very welcoming. The staff is wonderful and check-in and check-out were quick, easy and friendly. The location is also very convenient. I can't say enough about this place!

4
« Good Stay »

No question: the best part of this hotel is its large pool with plenty of lounge chairs and nice landscaping. This is not your average roadside motel pool. It's relatively private, well away and hidden from the road, and is surrounded by a large patio with lots of seating. Most of the rooms are double doubles (and by that I do mean double, not queen, beds--so if you're a big guy, be careful when booking!). The rooms are clean, well air-conditioned, and have the expected amenities. The breakfast has ample choices, although a major disappointment was the biscuits (hard and doughy) and gravy (loaded with sausage but sludge-y). In addition to the make-your-own waffles, they also have a pancake maker, which, at the push of a button spits out two hot pancakes per serving. Ingenious! The staff is very polite and efficient. Be warned: if your room ends in 20 thru 49 you will get your morning exercise walking to breakfast! This is good, though, because there is no workout room (passes are available to a Planet Fitness). There are second floor rooms but no elevator, so you will have to hump your luggage upstairs. A sign says help is available, but you will have to call the desk. FYI: although the hotel description doesn't mention it, there is a coin-op laundry for guests. Finally--when you go to fetch ice, be sure to bring your room key because the ice machine won't work without it. You are literally minutes from downtown; however, at "rush hour" the traffic on the Savannah Highway (Rt 17) is very, very heavy and there is a traffic light on just about every block. Be prepared for a lot of stop-and-go.

Definitely staying there again when near Charleston.

« Not what I expected »

After staying at the Best Western in Myrtle Beach for 4 nights , my husband and I looked forward to another wonderful stay when we checked into the Best Western in Charleston. Much to our displeasure this was not the case. Upon arrival in our room, we found an air purifier running and sitting on the desk. There was a bottle of cleaning solution left in the bathroom and no soap was available. When calling the front desk, the clerk offered to move us to a new room but we opted to stay and have the room cleaned instead. The maintenance man came up and got the purifier and the cleaning solution and brought several bars of soap and some lotion. The next morning when I went to take a shower, I moved the shower curtain and found a washcloth left from the previous guest hanging on the curtain rod. It appeared that this room was not thoroughly cleaned after all. I expressed my displeasure upon check out and was refunded $50 out of our total cost.

« A Gem! »

What's not to like here? The rooms are well-maintained and very clean. Our sleep experience was wonderful. The landscaping is excellent and so much more than you would expect in an inexpensive hotel. The pool area is large and well-maintained. Breakfasts were more than you normally get, with waffle irons, a pancake machine, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruits, cereals and more! The breakfast area is large and very clean with outside dining available. It's a small point, but the business area has Apple's Air Print so I could print wirelessly without any security issues. Loved that! The staff we encountered were all very friendly and eager to make sure we had everything we needed. I also like that the front desk is staffed 24 hours and the night manager was fine with my 5:00 AM appearances for coffee. This hotel is about 15 minutes from the old-town but also has a lot of dining choices nearby. We would definitely stay here again!

« Fabulous »

Room was so clean and beautiful. Y'all have a gorgeous hotel. I've always heard good things but wow. Will definitely stay there again. It was close to everything we planned to do and see. I loved I was 20 minutes from everywhere we wanted to be. My only disappointment was things being closed that we hand planned to do because of IRMA. So I will definitely be back when the weather's better.

We traveled a long way to find a hotel to accommodate us. They were friendly and professional, and we would definitely return. They have an excellent breakfast, and they are pet friendly. They understood we were scared and exhausted, and they couldn't have been more gracious.

« Very pleased customer »

Great hotel to stay if you have a pet traveling with you...hotel room was quiet with solid walls, hotel staff is friendly and service-oriented. My family and I stayed three nights there during Irma (hurricane) after driving 500+ miles from SW Florida. We were fortunate to find a hotel with vacancy and is pet-friendly to boot (we had our two Pomsky pups with us). Definitely recommend this hotel for its reasonable cost, friendly staff and quiet rooms...the daily complimentary breakfast is handy, and offers a variety of food selection.

The room was clean. Plenty of towels etc....Beds were comfy although the extra blanket i asked for was "rough" They definitely need new blankets. "Service" was quick. It may have been the rain and damp weather, but I turned the fan off, because the temperature was fine without a/c, but with the people noises outside and the smell of dogs in my room, I had to turn the fan on, just to control the smells and noises. I could hear every wag of the dog's tail beating against the floor upstairs and the people outside were not considerate of other guests when they talked loudly outside into the night, while others were trying to rest. The breakfast was good and the beds were comfortable, but not a high quality experience for me.

« Best Breakfast and great location »

I loved Kim, the lady working breakfast. She was so nice and the food was plentiful and phenomenal! Best hotel breakfast hands down and best service from Kim! The rooms were nice and neat and the location was very close to the main district.

« Decent, nothing out of the ordinary »

We traveled as a couple, rented a room with a king size bed, were located on the first floor. The room was what one might expect, nothing to distinguish it good or bad. The service at check-in was prompt and friendly. Daily room service was neat and clean. Breakfast room was busy, some temporary shortages on food but quickly replaced. On check-in we could not get on-line, messages kept coming up that the network was at capacity. Considering this was 6PM that seemed unlikely. I notified the desk and the two folk there said they never had encountered this before. I tried again and found an 800 number at the bottom of the page so I called it, got a tech directly, and he checked and said the router was not releasing addresses when people retired from the network. He rebooted the system and 6 minutes later we were on and had no further problems. When I went to check out I stood in line four feet or less from a young man who was asking the receptionist for a change of room. They had been there two days, and he, his wife, and 2 children were suffering from multiple bites, red pin pricks he called them and he mentioned picking up a towel from the floor and finding multiple bugs on it. He was told he they did not have a room available to which he could be immediately moved, but he said they would go to the pool area and wait. He was dark haired, about 30 yrs of age, and wore a grey T-shirt with the words Southern Pines Fire on the back of it. We had no problems of this sort, but I felt obliged to report what I witnessed.

Staff great, clean, clean, clean... nice pool deck. Lots of parking, not loud area. Perfect place for a fault to grab a few days away from home. We were even given eclipse glasses the day of the eclipse awesome.

« Best place to stay when away from home »

I will definitely recommend Best Western Hotel to all I know. MY daughter, who lives in Charleston, stopped over to see my room and your hotel and intends to tell anyone who visits her to go to Best Western.

« Very good hotel »

This place was awesome. My boyfriend and I came to Charleston on vacation and we loved the hotel. The colors were very vibrant and the environment was beautiful. We loved the pool and the bed was very comfortable! It is more of a motel type but we liked that because the rooms were easily accessible. I would definitely recommend!

« Really enjoyed it! »

This hotel was very clean, well maintained, and had a lovely pool area. Check out was at noon, and had a breakfast available until 10.30 a.m. Convenient because who wants to be rushed while on holiday? Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Will most definitely stay here again.

« Good Choice »

We needed to find a place that would welcome our dog and this was a perfect choice. The room was more than adequate and on the first floor making it easy for us to take her out. The free breakfast was excellent

« Good value for the night in Chucktown »

Was in Charleston on a Weekend and wanted to stay as close to the peninsula as possible without breaking the bank. This is a good location for a reasonable rate, just a quick Uber ride downtown. The hotel is clean, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast is good. The woman working the breakfast area could have used some help, but that was no fault of hers and more to do with the despicable behavior of some of the "guests"..despite that, I would have no issues staying here again !!

« Great location »

Enjoyed our stay. Close to James Island, Folly Beach and downtown Charleston. Room was clean and beds very comfortable. Breakfast was good quality with plenty of choices. The hotel was clean and well kept. Did not use pool but was a very nice area. Plenty of parking. This is a two story hotel and there is no elevator. Something to keep in mind for handicapped people.

« Would recommend »

We wanted a place that was easy to access downtown (Old) Charleston but didn't really feel like paying 300+ a night to sleep. This place is a great location. Less than 15 minutes to Downtown easy to access. Lots of parking. Many really good restaurants close by. Staff was friendly and helpful. The buildings are older but well maintained and clean. Great pool! Pleasant surprise. It is huge and clean and lots of seating.

« Awesome. »

Loved the pool, gardens, breakfast and room decor. We would definitely stay here. Switched to Holiday Inn right down the street on our second day in Charleston because the other couple we booked rooms with had a reservation there for day 2 of our trip. I was so disappointed in having to transfer from the BW. I loved this hotels gardens and the pool was lovely. Awesome, awesome breakfast--omelets, waffles, pancakes with pecan syrup . . .

« Roach hotel »

I had to change rooms. I saw flying roach. In middle of night second room same thing. The toilet water pressure was not good and, made a fog horn sound during flush. Second room had mix matched bed one high bed one low bed. Rolled over to syrup or drink stains on side of night stand. Filthy!

« Nice Property »

We stayed here after returning from a cruise, before driving home. The room was very clean with a mini fridge, microwave, ironing board and iron, comfortable bed, nice flatscreen tv and great air conditioner. The pool was amazing with towels, noodle floats, a drinking fountain, laptop plugs around the fencing, and nice lounge recliners. Water clean, great temperature and variable depth from 3-10 ft. with lots of room to relax. Breakfast buffet, pet friendly, computer room and friendly staff. Downside on our stay, breakfast buffet needed to be restocked as several items were empty, towel holder in bathroom was broken, and grounds crew got clippings all over our car after weed whacking. Overall a good stay, need to work on details. We would stay here again.

« Best Western for a comfortable and pleasant stay! »

Our stay was short, but sweet...we stayed at this BW one night of a 11 day road trip. and our stay was comfortable and pleasant. I recommend this Best Western for a comfortable and pleasant stay! Great and helpful staff, great breakfast included with the room, swimming pool available and hotel in centrally location to restaurants and shopping.

3
« Not Smoke Free »

Cute place but needs some information corrected; employees were smoking outside the front entrance (not pleasant) and residents were smoking at various outdoor benches. We saw "Smoke Free" advertised at this hotel but it was NOT. Maybe inside, but when you walk outside to the pool, to breakfast, to the lobby, and everyone is smoking, it's unpleasant. This would not be allowed in a progressive city .

« Best Western Charleston »

The Best Western was a wonderful place to stay for our quick trip to Charleston. The location was nice. Not downtown but only about a 10 minute drive to downtown. The room was very nice and clean. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was a little on the small side but not a problem at all. The staff was very nice and helpful.

« Good for the price . Check your fridge & water »

It was a girls trip to have a fun night in Charleston . The place was tucked away clean & frendly staff . It was 5 miles to downtown Charleston. We used Uber to get around . It cost $10!. Our fridge was broken & had no wash cloths and no hot water at all! . Make sure to check for those 1st thing next time.

« Nice hotel »

The hotel was nice and clean. It wasn't a far drive from the Meeting St or other sites we visited. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was your standand breakfast items. I liked that we could park right outside our room.

« Good hotel »

1 night spent on a stop over, driving to Florida. Nice hotel. Clean and functional. Nice swimming pool. Breakfast fine, as we expected from a Best-Western. I would go to this hotel again if I had to stop in Charleston again (the city nearby battery park is very nice)

« my stay in charleston, south carolina »

We were in town for my daughter's wedding and had a guest from Tokyo, japan. we rented 2 rooms. One room was for 3 days and the other was for 2 days. The beds are really comfortable, lots of pillows and the air conditioner was great since it was 96 degrees in Charleston. My only suggestion is that it would have been nice to have an extra blanket in the room since my husband likes the room colder than I do.

« Park & Cruise »

We were going on a cruise and wanted to drive down the day before in order to start our trip of refreshed. We loved the park and cruise option. The hotel and beds were nice. The transfer to and from the cruise were professional and on time. I do wish they offered a 1:00 pick-up time as the cruise time as we were given was from 1:30-2:00. The last shuttle from the hotel was at 12:00 which put us at the port an hour ahead of time. Do not waste your time and money parking at the port. Pay a little extra and cruise in and out of the port with ease.

« Summer vacation »

My husband and I enjoy staying at Best Western Hotels because they are very clean, hospitable, and very affordable. The value for the quality and price are tops. The next time we travel we will prefer to stay at a Best Western again. I especially love the breakfast provided for their guests so you can take your time and get something to eat without rushing to get all dressed up for your travels without having to waste time driving around to find somewhere to eat and having to wait to be served. It's really a nice provision by the hotel to complete your visit. Thank you Best Western.

« Trip to MUSC - Needed Last Minute Hotel »

I had to stay at this hotel last minute for two nights last weekend due to my mother being transported to MUSC. The front desk and staff is amazing and very nice. The rooms are nicely decorated and seemingly clean. The only issue we had was that we felt like there were a lot of bugs in our clinic, most likely due to the rooms being outside, and not in one, indoor building. We felt like we were very itchy and had to kill several bugs during our stay, but the location was close to where we needed to be. The value during a weekday for this hotel is pretty great, but on a weekend the price is really high for the quality you get. Overall the hotel did it's job and served the purpose we needed for it to, but I may choose to stay elsewhere if I'm in the area again next time.

« "Motel" that gets it right. »

We stayed 7 nights at this excellent motel (meaning doors open to the outside rather than an interior hallway). Room, public areas, pools and grounds are beautifully kept. Free breakfast is self-serve with much more than I expected - two types of omelets, biscuits & gravy, large sausage patties, a pancake machine, waffle irons + the usual cereal, etc. I think I tried every item over my 7 breakfasts. Some days the breakfast room was at capacity. The staff was truly incredible at keeping everything supplied. The location is not scenic, hence the lower rates. It's on a highway with the car dealerships but is only 15-20 minutes from the airport and 10-15 minutes from historic parts of Charleston. Nothing went wrong the whole week we were there - wifi was constant, maid service was perfect, employees were cordial, management sought feedback.

« A quick stay in Charleston »

Overall Best Western was a good place to stay. Clean rooms, helpful staff and an adequate breakfast. It was located just outside of Historic Charleston, S.C. and conveniently near other landmarks in the area. One in particular was the Middleton Plantation. Our only complaint was that they didn't provide a safe box in the room and my change purse was stolen.

5
« A WONDERFUL STAY »

We had a great stay at Best Western! The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and nice. The hotel was quiet and seemed to be in a good area although we did run into a woman panhandling when we went out one time. The grounds are lovely, and there was a very nice breakfast selection. The location was just a few miles from downtown. I would definitely stay here again.

« Girls only trip »

Not a bad hotel some of the staff were super friendly others not so much. Room was very clean and they had a good variety of foods for breakfast. Wish there was a traffic light or and easier way of exiting the hotel, going right wasn't too much of a problem but turning left was almost impossible, we needed to make a U turn several times. It is within walking distance of a few quaint restaurants and it's location is central to just about everything you might want to do/see in Charleston. Over all not a bad place to stay.

« Beware of Spam Calls »

I had a scary experience at this hotel. About 30 minutes after checking in I received a phone call on the hotel room-phone. The caller claimed that they were from the hotel and needed to re-enter my information because the computer system went down. When they wanted my credit card # I said that I would go to the front desk to handle that. When I went to the front desk they told me that I had received a spam call. They mentioned that a previous hotel guest had given his credit card number and immediately lost $1000!

« sad trip »

I was there for a funeral. The hotel and hospitality was great. Hot and humid. A/C took the edge off, I would recommend this place. the rooms where always cleaned. The staff was helpful and cheerful. continental breakfast was good. Wish they had bacon.

« Will continue to return when in area »

« Very pleased with stay »

My husband, daughter , granddaughter and I stayed for a last minute get away. I was very impressed with the clean room, beautiful grounds and friendly staff. I was most impressed with Kim, the breakfast attendant. I can say that this is by far the best free breakfast I have ever eaten at while staying at a hotel. The choices were far beyond your standard continental breakfast. You had pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage, coffee, juice , milk etc. You can safely say they offered something for everyone. That being said Kim was responsible for replenishing all of the items. In addition to this task it was obvious that is was truck day as all of the supplies were stacked in boxes on the floor. This young lady handled this with grace. It was July 4th , the breakfast area was packed and she didn't hesitate to stop what she was doing to get something a guest needed or wanted. She did this with a great attitude and a smile. Thank you Kim for great service. I will definitely stay again.

« Good but far from perfect »

The room was nice but poorly cleaned. (Stuff on carpet, balloons in corner, beer in fridge.) Beds were clean and bug free! There was an issue with a plugin/light but it was fixed within a few hours. The pool and breakfast we're both good. Staff was friendly. The alarm went off at 6am, we didn't set it.

« Pleased with decision to stay here. »

Chose to not stay in historic district and very pleased with that decision. Straight easy drive into Charleston , 15 or so minutes. Good breakfast, pool was nice. Not a fancy hotel but great for us. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.

« Helpful staff »

Requested a room change as a dog was yapping in the room below as we were unpacking. This was immediately arranged without any fuss by the reception staff. They also let us make a call to our next hotel to clarify a booking problem. Always friendly and pleasant. The rooms are good, however the bathroom could do with an upgrade as is dated. As already mentioned the breakfast was constantly replenished and was ideal to start the day. Location a straight forward 10/15 min drive into Charleston where we parked free all day along the waters edge. Pool area was pleasant and open until 10. All in all a good inexpensive base to visit such a beautiful place.

« The Gateway Hotel to Historical »

Your first reaction to stepping into this Best Western should be one of complaceny. Even if your stay is for business purposes. The decor is warm and neutral. So often hotels use loud uninviting color schemes. The feeling of content shall be achieved. A benefit for the location of this hotel is the 7.4 miles between it and Historical Downtown Charleston. A mere 20-minute car ride.

5
« Excellent hotel!! »

Very clean, updated room. The breakfast selection was great. The hotel staff was very friendly. Not too far from the city center. Great price for the location and free breakfast! We will definitely book again!'

« Cheap room friendly staff »

Room was decent outside grounds need cleaned up better and the color of the building is an eye sore lol but for the price it was good great staff that I seen. Nice pool area. Parking sucks at times. Good breakfast offered

« Very Nice »

Stopped in Charleston for 4 nights on way from Florida to Pennsylvania for a visit. Wished it would have been closer to city but I knew that when I made reservations. I wanted somewhere to stay where husband could self park truck with no valet or parking garage. We were in a "handicapped room" and everything was accessible. Breakfast offerings were very good. Has a large swimming pool which we never made it to and grounds are attractive.

3
« Pet friendly, but breakfast not appetizing »

It's always so nice to find a pet friendly hotel and this hotel is one of them. However, our first night right after checking in we saw a dead coach in the bathroom behind the door as if that area hadn't been cleaned. The continental breakfast is pretty sad, and could use some fresh fruits and vegetables. I appreciated it being pet friendly and close driving distance to where I needed to be in Charleston.

2
« Dirty Towel in bathroom »

The room was old, no building interior entrance to the room, there was a dirty towel left behind the bathroom door and there were ants crawling around. The main building and lobby are very nicely done but the room needed some attention.

4
« Great price and very nice »

When going to Charleston you can stay in some really expensive places that are really old and are not that nice. Or you can stay at the Best Western. It is clean, very well priced, and you can walk to everything. The parking is tight and I drive a large truck and I was able to park in their parking lot.

4
« Very convienent location »

The hotel met my expectations. Breakfasts were adequate and saved us money and time. No problem with free WiFi. Plenty of brochures just off lobby. Make sure you try Bassingers BBQ next door. to the hotel.... Yum....

« Good hotel when traveling with a pet! Convenient location to downdown. »

Generally a nice hotel. The front desk staff is great. Choices are limited when traveling with a pet, and this hotel was not a disappointment. Location is convenient, but the street is very busy. We had a 2nd floor room in one of the back buildings, which was good considering we had a dog with us, but a lot of steps to go up and down.

5
« Very nice place to stay.. »

From start to finish this was a very nice place to stay. Staff was friendly, rooms clean and smelled nice upon entry. Booking.com was the problem and lied when they said your credit card would not be charged until you check in and they advertise no cancellation fee which is a lie. when I checked my email for confirmation of my reservation 5 minutes after booking, it said if I cancelled now I would be charged $103 dollars.. smh. Oh well The Best Western of Charleston on Savannah Rd was like being at a Island resort... Loved my stay

5
« Charleston Inn »

Room was excellent, staff very nice and price was alright but we found a hotel right in the city(a different chain) for $20 cheaper. Best Western could be a little more competitive with their prices. I was disappointed that weekend prices were so much more with no discount for multiple days.

5
« Highly Recommend »

« Decent Lodging & full breakfast for reasonable price just a short drive from the city of Charleston »

Da-Quana was very helpful at check in and throughout our stay by offering us water to take with us and providing great restaurant recommendations. Very unhappy with housekeeping. After 1st night we left for the day and didn't arrive back until 3:10pm. Our room still had not been cleaned but they had taken the money left for them and all the towels out of the room. We couldn't even wash our hands because there was nothing to dry them. We accidentally left some of my husbands clothes in the 2nd dresser drawer. when we realized it we called 2 days later and they told us they would have been turned in by housekeeping and would be in their lost and found and they would mail them to us. Since we were still local and were going to be staying again the next night we would check back at our arrival. We asked multiple times during our next 2 nights and no one seemed to care and said they didn't have them. This tells me 3 things: housekeeping didn't do their job and check the drawers, the next guest took the clothes, or housekeeping took the clothes. Yes, it was our fault for leaving them, but housekeeping should have turned them in to lost & found. My only other complaint is the breakfast. While it is nice to be offered a full breakfast, they offer the exact same breakfast every single day. They need to change up the omlets and sausage to other types of eggs and bacon, etc. Pool was very enjoyable.

5
« Nicely decorated, extremely clean, good service »

This was a good quality hotel for good value for money. The hotel lobby and rooms were decorated nicely. Everywhere was clean and the breakfast had a good selection. The woman working on the breakfast did a great job of keeping everything topped up and clean. The pool was also nice and clean, and off of the road... so often they are right by the road side which is so off putting! Staff were all friendly too. It could have been closer to downtown Charleston, however it was a less than 15 minute drive away and was pretty cheap to get an uber.

• 5
« Decent and good price »

I think this motel is good, but I was traveling alone and don't really feel safe in rooms with the doors that lead directly outside. Also, my room was facing the back which is a wooded area, so i may have felt better in one of the buildings closer to the front. You have to go outside to go to the lobby- I prefer hallways. That being said, this is an updated motel and is clean and updated but a bit dark. Pet owners might enjoy this motel and there is a little park area to walk your pet. The landscaping was nice too. Just wouldn't stay here again if alone.

4
« Great place to stay in Charleston »

We stayed here for two nights. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving me suggestions on where to park in the city. The room and breakfast were great. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Wifi worked well.

We spent 3 nights at this location. We met friends from another state and we had a great time. The motel was clean and quiet. Beautiful pool. We did not use it but sat around it every evening. Breakfast was good and had a lot of choices. Even Gluten Free options and that was very important to 1 of the four of us. Great location.

« Great Stay »

My sister and I stayed on May 9th. We were spending her birthday in Charleston. The location was very close to downtown. We were welcomed from the front desk with a warm friendly smile & treated with plenty of hospitality. The main lobby area was bright and decorated very tastefully. Our room was more than adequate for the price. It was clean, had soft fresh linens and nicely decorated. The breakfast was good and had plenty of choices. The facility was clean & nicely landscaped. I would highly recommend staying there.

« Amazing stay at a wonderful hotel »

This is definitely one of my favorite hotels and will definitely be on my list when I come down here again. We got this hotel so that we can go on our cruise with Carnival. The people are so amazing IT professional and helpful. The people outside help us with luggage when they see a struggling. The breakfast woman, Kim, was absolutely wonderful. She was so helpful. I watched her keep track of keeping things clean and full and she did an amazing job. I'd say she's an exceptional employee so don't lose her. Everything is clean well-kept up and I have absolutely no complaints. Hey everyone has something that needs to be fixed, but this time it didn't happen

5
« Everything was perfect »

Was impressed with outside, inside, room, price, breakfast was ok but I have gluten issues. Only stayed one night and had all needs met. Would recommend to anyone. Clean, clean, clean and quiet. Trees in particular kept all areas cool. Would've like to use the pool but no time.

« Pet Friendly with class »

We are snowbirds who drive back and forth to Florida every winter and have had to stay in marginal hotels because we have pets. Best Western has begun to include pet friendly rooms in some of its hotels which are all being renovated to include lovely, comfy beds with piles of pillows. This BW is about a 5 minute drive to the Charleston Historic District and includes a nice hot buffet breakfast overlooking a lovely landscaped pool area. Good price for a high quality PET FRIENDLY hotel! Highly recommended!

« All pet friendly hotels should be as nice as this one! »

We had a very spacious and nicely decorated room with an enormous bathroom with a wonderful walk-in shower. The beds were very comfortable! It was very quiet for the 3 days that we stayed and our room was well supplied. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The morning breakfast was hot and there was a variety of things to select and the staff was very efficient and friendly! All pet friendly hotels should be as nice as this one! There was plenty of walking areas for your pet along with the peaceful setting.

« Rooms »

Very dissatisfied with my recent stay at Best Western Charleston Inn. The shower faucet fell off when I turned the shower on. Had to change rooms. Just glad it happened Friday night. In our new room on Saturday morning I plugged the iron in and blew a fuse for the entire room. Phone wouldnt work without power. Had to walk to front desk. Took a while for maintenance to fix. Had to get ready for the most part in the dark. Were on a strict time frame as we were leaving for a cruise. No problems with staff. Breakfast was ok.

« Not what I expected »

I thought from the reviews and pictures it would be a nicer hotel. I booked through hotels.com and I should have followed up. We were stuck on the second floor in the very back of the hotel making us have to haul our heavy luggage upstairs. I could have asked for a different room so that is my fault. Housekeeping not so great and breakfast both mornings had stale biscuits. Only saving grace was the young lady who worked the check in desk was a doll. Very helpful with directions and getting us transportation. Staff in the breakfast room was nice also.

« STINKY »

Honestly, I don't understand who these previous reviewers are but this place should be avoided at all cost. A few things to note: 1. The lobby is beautiful and very deceiving because it sets the wrong expectations that the rooms are just as clean and fresh smelling. 2. The rooms are all outdoor access without any surveillance cameras. The doors are all metal which I am assuming is for security. As I am not used to outdoor access and metal doors it gave me a creepy feeling that I am not safe there. 3. The rooms are stuffy and smelly and I have honestly never experienced such potent stink in a hotel. Please note that I have stayed in multiple casinos with different ratings where most of the guests were smokers and still none of them smelled as bad as this place. I couldn't quite figure out the source of the smell but I would say it has to be some kind of mold . 4. The rooms are dark and creepy and should have been updated 20 years ago. Because of the dark decor you have a feeling that everything is dirty. There is no toiletries as far as I can recall. 5. Our toilet did not flush. 6. This place is not worth the money they are charging. It should not be more than $100 a night. Actually, I don't know what price point could make this place a good deal. We asked to be moved to a different Best Western property which they did within minutes. The receptionist first tried telling us that none of the guests have ever complained about the smell. This we found impossible to believe because the three rooms we checked out were all equally terrible. If you are an allergy sufferer or are used to an acceptable standard this would not fit your needs. STAY AWAY - YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET A WINK OF SLEEP HERE!

« Very happy with our choice of this motel »

We spent five nights here and we will definitely return to this reasonably priced motel because it has all the amenities we needed (microwave, small refrigerator, pool, and free parking) and the beds were super comfortable. It's a very short drive to any Charleston sightseeing and there are some great restaurants nearby.

From the outside, this hotel looks a little like an old motel, but inside the rooms are nice. No real complaints, just a typical average hotel. Service was friendly and good location. Overall good enough.

« Best Western with Great Hot Full Breakfast »

We were surprised to find they serve a great hot breakfast at this hotel, considering usually only the Best Western Plus and up serve a full hot breakfast. The bed was very comfortable and temperature in the room was fine. We definitely recommend it.

« Great Pit-stop »

We stay over night at this Hotel twice. Once in August and in April, During our drive back to Delaware. We have children and Service Dogs it worked out great! It was quiet and enough room for my family. Enjoyed our time there!

« Very clean & friendly staff »

We had a late check in around 2am with no hiccups and very friendly staff when we arrived so late. Our room was clean and neat with all the amenities that you would need for a few nights stay: mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker (although it was broken). The continental breakfast was very good and saved a lot of time and money VS buying breakfast elsewhere! My car did get broken into our last night there so just be aware that there's some rough people around but that's to be expected anywhere you go! Overall my experience was great and I would stay again in the future!!

« Pre Cruise Stay »

Clean rooms. Very little noise on back side of the hotel. We arrived the day before a Carnival Cruise and were pleasantly surprised with the condition of the grounds and room. The hotel is outside of the historic district but close enough for an easy drive in if you choose. The breakfast area was clean and the food was typical but adequate. There are a few outside tables for dining or enjoying a cup of coffee. They have a package for leaving your car parked on the grounds while cruising and provide a shuttle to port. We used the shuttle to port but the shuttle was not at port when we disembarked to return. Perhaps it had made a run but we were very early off the boat. It was raining so we chose to pay for a cab back to the hotel - 35 dollars - versus waiting in the rain for a shuttle. The front desk and breakfast area staff were pleasant.

« Visit to Charleston »

After looking at several hotels downtown Charleston and having difficulty justifying paying such high prices I looked at this Best Western. Not only was it reasonable for the area it was close proximity to downtown. Sure, we had to drive there and pay to park in a parking garage but parking garage prices were also very reasonable. The free breakfast at this Best Western was very good. The room was also clean and spacious. We would definitely stay there again if we make a return visit. Everyone working there was very helpful and friendly.

« Very Average »

Things were just OK. Way overpriced for what you get. Mediocre breakfast. Rooms were clean. Staff was polite and friendly (depending on who was at the desk). Overall, compared to other Best Westerns we have stayed at, this was a disappointment.

« Exceptional place!!! »

My family stayed at Best Western recently. I have a 6 year old daughter who absolutely loved playing in the pool, very cozy and well kept area. We loved the breakfast area, and it was a lot of options to chose from. The rooms were very clean, the beds are very comfortable. We had a great time at Charleston and our hotel stay made it feel even better. Would return for sure. Thank you very much!!!!

« comfortable and quiet »

My husband and I had a room in the back of the hotel in a separate building from the main hotel. Our room appeared to be smaller than the rooms in the main building. We were satisfied with the room. It was clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The only thing I did not like was the wall colors. The room appeared dark. The breakfast was satisfying..

« Good place to stay »

Recently stayed here on a visit to Charleston. The staff is friendly and efficient . The rooms are clean and comfortable. The property is well kept and has a nice pool. They have a large dining room and the breakfast was good. Would stay here again .

« Decent hotel »

We had a nice say here. The hotel was nice and the staff was very friendly. Nice pool as well. The free breakfast was ok, but not great. The reason I am rating it as average is because our bathroom wasn't clean when we arrived and we had to clean it. Other than that, we were satisfied with our stay.

« Charleston Weekend »

Stay at a lot of Best Westerns when on the road. This was by far the nicest, friendliest, cleanest, and most convenient to where we wanted to be. Excellent breakfast and the staff was super nice. Went out each morning with a full stomach and didn't have to eat again until dinner. The room was beautiful, clean, no smells, comfy beds, felt like we were at home! Traveled with my 85 year old mother and she had an excellent time and it was easy for her to get around the property, of course we had a first floor room close to the front of the building and with the bar in the bathtub, I didn't have to worry about her getting in and out of the shower.

« Last minute »

We had to scramble at the last minute when our Airbnb wasn't as advertised. BW was able to accommodate us and I am appreciative of that. Our room was a little dated, but the accommodations were fine. Our room did overlook a nice pool area. I did like that the shower head was positioned high enough to allowed not to have to crane my neck for a change. The staff was professional and helpful. The young girl who managed the breakfast bar should be commended. She hustled to keep it stocked and fresh. She was very friendly toward the guests and point out some gluten free options to my wife.

« Good value for hotel. »

Room was clean and staff was friendly and helpful. Bed was too soft for my liking but was still comfortable. Area seemed quiet for being on a busy street. Good access to restaurants and businesses. Easy driving access to downtown Charleston.

« Disappointing Stay »

This BW location was extremely disappointing and very costly. There is no excuse for uncleanliness and poor customer service This was a special trip too! We are true BW loyal customers so finding this location to be so below stand was costly unfortunate experience.

3
« Convenient Location »

Arrived vary late on a Friday night. Check in was straightforward and woman at counter was very friendly and helpful. Room was satisfactory. Clean beds and linens. Pool was nice. Well sized. Location is probably the biggest selling point, as it is easy access to to downtown and beaches. There is a 24 hour grocery store within a mile or so. There are many high end car dealerships in the area, which seemed to indicate a more up-scale area. Parking was plentiful. Price was a little high for a Best Western, but wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

« Excellent Pre-cruise with Breakfast & Shuttle! »

Excellent hotel with amazing personnel. Room was spotless and completely redone inside. Full hot breakfast was provided, although advertised as just Continental. Even though the stay was for only one night, we are always particular about our pre-cruise hotels, usually staying at Raddison, Country Inn and Suites, Embassy Suites or Hampton Inn depending on the port we sail from. This particular Best Western (our first BW ever), was a keen competitor with the aforementioned hotels. Parking for the week was included and is located directly on the property. True Southern Hospitality!!! Plus we saved hundreds by not staying downtown. This hotel is approximately a 20 minute ride to the Port of Charleston.

I wanted to say a few weeks ago I was having a very bad day. My car broke down so I had to stay over night in Charleston. The next day my car was suppose to be fixed but by 5:00 they told me they could not fix it. I was having a very bad day by then. I had to find a hotel to stay at so I walked into Best Western and BRITTINAI was at the front desk. She was so friendly and compassionate to my situation. It changed a bad two days into not so bad a situation. I wanted her management team to know she is good at her job.

« Okay... »

We were two families, total of four people in 2 queens for 1 night before sailing on a cruise. We parked at the port, but this best western offers parking and shuttle to port. Pros: clean; good A/C; spacious rooms with lofty ceilings; a great breakfast (pancake maker, waffle maker, juices, milk, choc milk, yogurt, cereal, hard boiled eggs, omelets, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bagels, muffins, croissants, other baked sweets, toast, butter, jellies, and more!) Cons: the bed was awful, we got no sleep. It wasn't firm or soft, but felt like a very cheap mattress with no support, like a dorm or camp mattress. The mini fridge barely got cool even on coldest setting (would likely spoil food). The check-in took close 30 min, only one person checking in guests on a Friday night, this was not fair to her or to the guests. If not for the lack of sleep, I would stay again, but after traveling all day and then (not) sleeping on the "el cheapo" mattress, we've decided to not go here again until a mattress upgrade. Fyi: Staff were friendly, especially housekeeping.

« Great hotel! »

What makes this a great hotel is the pool and the newly renovated rooms- Also the staff! The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. It is convenient to many restaurants and Downtown. The breakfast was our favorite because we got to interact with Carol! We stay in Charleston every year but have never stayed on the West Ashley side of town. I am glad we did!

« Pet friendly Charleston »

We chose the hotel because it was pet friendly and wanted to stay in Charleston. We found it so relaxing, and the beds were really comfortable ? we both had a really good sleep. We loved the courtyard and gardens around the pool, very nice. The complimentary breakfast is great and so we took advantage of that also. Very nice to be able to pull our car right up to the door, super convenient. Would most definitely recommend this hotel.

« Great Hotel »

This is a great hotel. I was a bit nervous that it was an outdoor hotel. The parking lot was clean and safe. This hotel get very busy because it has a loyal customer base. You can tell when you walk in the breakfast room. The breakfast host seemed to know many of the guests. She was wonderful. We stayed here for a wedding in the area. The hotel was full during the two days we were here. There was not enough parking for all of the guests. We had to park along the curb the first night because all of the spots were taken. All of the staff were great. The breakfast host was very busy trying to keep up. There should been another person helping her. She kept the breakfast room clean and stocked. As I said the entire staff was wonderful. My wife and I were taking photos outside of the hotel. My wife wanted photos of us dressed up for the wedding. The housekeeper stopped walking so we could take the photos. I thought that was very conscientious. Most people would of kept waling but she took the time to stop. She did not say anything. When I told her "please go ahead". She told us "it's ok. Take your photos". She even took couple of pictures of both of us. Where can one ask for better service. By the way I did not even talk about the rooms. The rooms were clean and specious. I was very happy with the quality of the rooms and the service that I received from the staff of this hotel.

« Nice place! »

We wanted a nice hotel for our weekend getaway but didn't want to pay the exorbitant prices of the downtown hotels. This hotel was the answer! It was a very simple commute to the downtown attractions. The rooms were a little small but very adequate for our needs and very clean. The thing I liked most was there were no windows to the parking lot - instead all windows looked inward to the gardens and pool. I would stay here again.

« Carol the server at Breakfast »

Carol took care of everyone at breakfast. Make sure there was enough food and handed bottle of water and asked if you need anything else. Nice Lady. The hotel (bed and breakfast) was very comfortable and clean. Everyone else was very nice and kind. It was also very convenient to go to downtown Charleston fifteen minutes bus ride. You were able to get the bus across the street from the Hotel and leave you at the visiting center and coming back the bus would leave you in front of the hotel. I would go back to stay there again.

« Nicely Remodeled Best Western Inn In Charleston »

We recently stayed there the night before we flew home. It was about 15 minutes to the airport. It was a little dark and finding it was a little difficult as the sign was not lit. However at check in the lobby was very nice. We got to our room and I was surprised how nice it was. The room had been completely remodeled and was very clean. The shower was new and the showerhead was really great. It had a nice pool which we didn't use. I would highly recommend this hotel for a 1-2 night stay as it is nice, quiet and not pricey like many other places in Charleston. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave and a large flat screen TV.

Excellent value. Great Loction to see Charleston and about 2 hours from Savannah GA and Hilton Head SC. Plantations are nearby. Patriot Point is only 20 minutes from hotel and worth the visit. « Stay for cruise out of port Charleston »

We stayed here for the cruise package (that shuttles you to and from the hotel and port) because it seemed better leaving our car here than at the cruise port lot...so glad we did! The hotel must have been recently renovated it was very stylish and nice. My only complaint of our room was the bedding smelled a little funny..kind of like a fried food lingering smell? But it wasn't dirty...very strange. But otherwise it was very nice! The breakfast we had in the morning was the best hotel breakfast I have ever had...no lie. And I have had several hotel breakfasts (even worked at a Hampton for a few years) in various hotels. There were so many options! And the breakfast staff kept it clean and stocked even though it was busy when we ate but she stayed on it! Very friendly and helpful staff too! And the main reason we chose to stay here, the shuttle, was an easy and smooth process! This will be our hotel whenever we sail out of Charleston in the future!

« Nothing fancy, but clean & quiet »

We booked the Best Western through Trip Advisor to get a good rate. There is nothing fancy about the room, but it was a great price for a place 15 minutes from downtown. They were very accommodating when I requested a first floor room, since we were worn out from driving & there weren't any elevators up to the second floor. The room isn't real updated & there were no hangers, but everything was clean, there were a lot of TV channels & the linens & pillows were fresh. We were only in town for one night so we didn't need fancy. This room was quiet, cool & priced right. The breakfast was more than adequate with options for everyone, including some outside seating.

« Very Good Value »

Friendly employees, updated rooms and a large pool made for a happy family stay. We were in Charleston on a short family vacation, and were less than thrilled with the high cost of lodging. We'd stay at a few other Best Western hotels in the recent past and took notice of the chain's efforts to update the properties, so we took a chance on this location. We weren't disappointed. We were close to downtown area and the beaches, and there were a number of restaurants in the area. The complimentary breakfast was only weak area; but it was complimentary which helps when you're traveling with children. Because they are putting a lot of effort into bringing families back to their hotels, I advise anyone considering a stay at a Best Western to call the hotel directly and ask if they are undergoing renovations. You won't get that information while booking online.

5
« Amazing! »

This was the best hotel out of the 10 I stayed at on my vacation! Beautiful rooms with vaulted ceilings, great outdoor pool. I would say the customer service could have been a little better. The lady at the front desk was a little rude. The only problem we had with our room was that the door was really hard to pull open and close. We had maintence take a look at it and they offered to move us, but we decided to stay as to not move away from our family in the next room. Overall, excellent hotel, good price!

« Awsome! »

DaQuana was so sweet when my daughter and I checked in. She saw that my daughter was pregnant so she put us on the first floor. Normally I don't like hotels with the doors on the outside but it was so convenient to just park at our door to unload our suitcases. I liked having a refrigerator and microwave in the room too. Also Carol in the breakfast room was fabulous. Breakfast was great. Omelettes, bacon, pastries, cereal, yogurt. There was something for everyone.

« Two day stay, close to MUSC »

We arrived about 4 pm. The front desk lady was pleasant but I was unhappy that we were in the very back an on top floor in center of building. We had to park at the end. Our view was a building looking at construction workers an painters drinking beer all night. The room was great. No problem there. The pool was a bit to walk to. The breakfast lady was the Best! She was helpful and awesome help with our son. She deserves award for the employee of the month. The pool also I may add was a little dirty with sand. An they don't provide shuttle service. Traffic is also a little bit hectic but I guess that is to be expected. Coffee is also cold at night so you have to microwave. Check out was easy. I was hopeful we would have had a better stay but room was nice an clean.

« Best Front Desk Ladies..... »

The hotel is older but very clean and and it's evident that it has been updated. Our room was very clean as well and the beds were very comfortable. While it's not in the tourist area where prices would be double and triple if not more, it's a short drive (10 mins at most) which makes the rates very attractive. And you have plenty of free parking. The breakfast was very good and Carol was most friendly and welcoming. She's constantly making sure all food is full and the room is super clean. All three ladies, DaQuanna, Talisha and Donisha were the friendliest and most welcoming we've met so far on our two month trip. They helped us with restaurants and both nights we had excellent experience with delicious food. The pool is located in the center of the main portion of the hotel and laundry machines were also centrally located. Without a doubt, WE WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN when in Charleston.

« Great place »

Stayed here 4Rth of July week. We had 2 rooms beside each other. Rooms were clean. Pool was awesome, great size so you do,t feel like your on top of other people. They even had some pool toys. Breakfast was great. Had to wait a little on some things to be restocked, they could use another worker instead of just one..but it was no big deal. Enough choices for 5 kids to have what they wanted. Location is perfect to go to all the beaches and sites...we went to a different beach every day. Grocery store is just down the road. Overall a great stay.

« Clean and Great Location »

From checking in to checking out was awesome. Very special and sweet staff. Felt safe and secure. Pool view was just that. No balcony, just big window. Looks like for safety reasons (concrete balcony didn't look so secure) they removed the sliding glass doors and replaced them with Safety glass. Beds were way to soft, felt like I was sleeping on an air mattress with a slow leak. Need to get new ones. Room was clean, so was the linen, and the bathroom, shower too. All staff wore uniforms, so you knew who they were. They were all over the place, doing their job and doing it well. Very close to downtown and the interstate. Places to eat within walking distance. Located on a busy highway, so be careful when exiting the hotel parking lot. Breakfast was good and filling to start the day off. You will need your room key card for the ice machine, which gave plenty of ice when I wanted it. Was with family, arriving on different nights and the staff accommodated us with rooms next to each other. Rooms were quiet inside, didn't hear anything from any other rooms or the kids playing at the pool.

It was not the closest to attractions but a great hotel nonetheless. The lady at breakfast ws very kind and helpful, room was big and so was the bathroom. We parked right in front of our room, there is plenty of parking space. Great pool.

Our visit this year was amazing! Just to name a few of the employees who treated us like family!! Ms. Shella- front desk Ms. Da-Quana - front desk Ms. Carol - breakfast Ms. Dionna - housekeeping. I can't express enough how wonderful our visit was. These ladies made us feel like family. I recommend this Best Western if you're ever in Charleston. They made the trip one to remember with their excellent customer service and hospitality. Thank you all so much see you next summer.

I liked the hotel and the price was relatively cheaper than the hotels in the area. The room was clean and appeared to have been recently remolded. I did have one problem with the washing machine at this location. Other than that the stay was nice.

Best Western Hotel it was the best, the staff very charming, and very helpful. Anything that we call the front desk for they were very timely to bring it to us. The breakfast was very, very good. The rooms were very clean, I can't think of anything about our stay here that was not good! once again my hat off to the great staff. Janet K

« BW Charleston - a perfect stay! »

This was our 5th visit to Charleston and our 3rd stay at the Best Western on Savannah Highway, hopefully, not our last! The facility is well laid out and spotless. The staff from the Front Desk to the Cleaning and Maintenance teams are warm, helpful and expert at their tasks. They take obvious personal interest in what they do, how they do it and engage with guests. The rooms are comfortable and super clean with plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner and soap. The free Breakfast has such a variety of options, there is no way to leave the room hungry. Even my picky eater daughter found plenty to her liking. Bread, muffins, eggs, biscuits and gravy, hot and cold cereals, make your own waffles and a pancake making machine! I cannot recommend the Best Western Charleston Inn highly enough and look forward to our next visit!

« Best stay at Best Western!! »

We could not ask for more! Great staff, great pool, and beautiful grounds. The rooms were clean and the staff were genuinely nice and devoted to making our stay like it was our very own home. I came from Ohio to visit family and this will be where I come each and every time I return!

« Stay in building closest to pool! »

We arrived about 2 hours early and our room wasn't ready but one in the same building but on second floor was so we took it. No elevator and not fun hauling all our stuff up. The room was very dark and small. After we returned from our Charleston culinary tour I asked if we could be switched. The girl at the front desk this time was extremely nice and switched us to the front building. The room was much nicer with a huge window facing the pool. Everything in it was fine and worked well. Housekeeping does a good job.... The next night we went to use the pool, which was a nice area. It was overrun with screaming, unruly kids so we stayed for a bit and enjoyed what we could. The hotel is a good proximity to the downtown Charleston area but is in a very commercial area. It was a good price for the area.

« Very good mid tier hotel »

Reserved the Best Western because it offered the most for the money, and more importantly two queen beds was an option, not just two full beds. The rooms were nice, the furniture was comfortable, and the breakfast was good too. If I had to complain about something, I would say that the HVAC wasn't terribly effective. We had it tuned as cold as possible and the far side of the room was still hot.

« Wonderful motel for our vacation »

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. From the start the entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and smelled great. The pool was nice and the water was clean. Breakfast was very good and we looked forward to it each day. It's very close to historic downtown Charleston. Only negative is the busy highway you have to pull out on when leaving. We would pull out to the right and go through the Pep boys parking lot then left to the stoplight. Would stay again.

« Best Hotel Stay Ever!!! »

The hotel was clean and the staff was wonderful! I want to especially mention Da-Quana at the front desk, Deette - housekeeping manager and Carol who prepared a delicious breakfast every morning. The hotel is well situated between downtown Charleston and the plantations and gardens along the Ashley River. Da-Quana and Deette were very knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions on where to go and where to eat!

« eh. could be better »

inattentive staff. rooms not very clean. no coffee pot, but plenty of coffee. inadequate parking. pool area not kept clean. lack of english speaking housekeeping staff makes it difficult to express what you need.

« Good Motel, Would Certainly Consider Returning »

For only staying one night, my wife and I left with a good impression of the motel. The only negatives were my allergic reaction and loud noises from the room upstairs. My allergic reaction is usually the result of dog hair in the room, which we were not told that it was a pet room. The noise in the room above happened twice in the middle of the night and was extremely loud. I thought about reporting it but was in a short duration and it occurred at 2:00 am and 7:00 am.

« Nice hotel »

This is not the first time we have stayed in a Best Western on this particular trip. We found that Best Western hotels have improved greatly from several years ago. This hotel is a little far from the center of town but not unbearable. The heated swimming pool is very inviting, especially during the evening hours. We really enjoyed out stay. Would highly recommend this hotel.

« Want to Save and Stay Outside the City? Stay here! »

We were washed out of our campground and ended up here thanks to reviews we read. And we were more than happy. Every staff member was a genuine delight, helpful and working hard. The room was spotless and wonderfully comfortable. The pool is perfectly maintained and set in the courtyard amongst lovely palms and plantings. The extensive breakfast had something for everyone, plus fanned seating outside for those of us who need a little a/c break even during the summer. We were so happy here we extended our stay for an extra day and were so happy we did so. There are cheaper options, but as a very budget-minded person, I implore you to consider the value you get here.

« Wonderful breakfast »

I have to give a special shout out to an amazing lady. Mrs Carol, who is the caretaker of the wonderful breakfast here, tales pride in her work. I am challenged when walking. She noticed, checked on my well being, and offered my the freshly cooked meat when it was done as well as freshly sliced fruits when she was done. Well worth any problems, if any, you may experience while there...not to mention a healthy and nutritious start to each day

5
« Great Value »

Yes, this is technically a motel due to outside facing rooms, however the service, cleanliness and perks made it feel better than a motel. Staying in or around downtown isn't cheap, the inn was a 15 min Uber ride to downtown with traffic. We were pleased. Breakfast was what you'd expect for being free.

5
« Great! »

It was my second experience with this hotel that was even better than first. Room was very clean and fresh. Bed was very comfortable. A/C was turned on before we entered the room. Friendly staff; we've been offered bottles of water at the time of check-in and check-out. The breakfast was pretty various. Approximately 15 min. to drive from historical district. Free parking. A lots of places to eat nearby. Highly recommend.

« Exceptional quality and service! »

I checked in around 2 a. m. and the staff was fantastic! The first thing that I noticed was the security button when I could not enter. Loved this option. Safety is a great concern for employees. The breakfast was fresh and the staff was very friendly and helpful when I asked for directions. You cannot go wrong for the quality of this hotel and staff.

« Great Stay »

Not a fan of outside entrance rooms, but once inside...ALL was well. Room was very CLEAN! Nice decor and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Convenient to Historic downtown Charleston (10 min. drive or less). Close to connectors to James Island and Folly...we were headed to Folly for the day. I would stay there again.

« I will be back »

Have stayed at this location multiple time. Will be back for sure. Love the staff. they are always nice and friendly. The new renovations are awesome. Appears they have new management and all is good.

4
« Pricy for what you get »

Had I been told the room was not smoke free and animals had been in there and there were many walking their pets, I would have gone elsewhere. I could get an oceanview room at Courtyard Marriott for $99, but I had the coupon book, but was not allowed to use it. I was there for medical purposes.

5
« Very close to CofC »

A great stay within 15 mins from The College of Charleston. Outdoor pool, free breakfast with pancakes, waffles, eggs, breads, meats,yogurt,fruit,juice,coffee,tea..This deserves an A+. Only issue was carrying bags up stairs to second floor room. I normally don't like motels without lobby to rooms but I will be returning for "move in" day and parents weekend...this is a great value in Charleston. Pets allowed but no issues with that either. Staff very polite and helpful. Great Job Best Western!

« Pleasantly surprised »

I booked this hotel for their reasonable Pet fee $20.00/day. I didn't know before my arrival that the rooms were accessible from outside. That is a big NO in my book, but it was too late to find another hotel, so I decided to deal with it. The hotel staff was very friendly. After almost 14 hours drive, at 2am, they completely understood that we was tired. The room was clean with nice decor. The breakfast was great (variety of toppings for waffles) was a big hit, especially with my stepson. We had an emergency and had to stay an extra night, and I was pleasantly surprised that the extra night was about the same rate and the other 2 nights that I booked 2 months prior. We will definitely stay here again! It was close to everything.

« Dog Friendly, Clean, Safe and Comfy! »

Great place to stay, rooms are clean, friendly staff. I needed a hotel with easy access to downtown Charleston that was dog friendly. The location is great and easy to get to. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast could be better - toasters not working, layout was cramped - better to have all items on one side of the room instead of both ends. The room was clean and the beds were not bad. Quiet too.

5
« Miss Carol »

Great place to stay! Miss Carol who is in charge of breakfast each morning gives the hotel an even better reputation by being very friendly, helpful and all ways willing to help you with whatever you need. I enjoyed my stay so much that I will definitely be staying there again!

Very nice, reasonable, convenient place to stay.... especially with children and small pet. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Fast Food Restaurants close by for children. Nice pool. Friendly staff. We've stayed there many times when going to MUSC, old part of city, Aquarium is easy to drive to also. We highly recommend it.

« Average Hotel »

Hotel located on busy street in commercial area. Nevertheless, noise level diminished after 8:00 pm. Room was clean and adequate for our one night stay in Charleston. My daughter and 2 grandchildren stayed there also. Kids liked pool. It was crowded that day but all respected other's space. There were not any clean, unused towels so had to use room towels. Breakfast ok for fast, prepared food. I sure there are better hotels along strip but we always stay at BW for the price and location. Would recommend.

« Awesome 2 Days! »

Just returned from spending 2 days at the BW Charleston Inn on Savannah Hwy. Front desk was so helpful in rearranging our 2 reserved rooms to be side by side and on the first floor when we arrived. Breakfast both days was wonderful - lots of choices. Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, property was quiet and the pool was enjoyable. Easy access to everything downtown Charleston and surrounding area. Thanks!!

« Beautiful hotel within minutes of downtown »

We drove to historic Charleston within minutes from this clean, safe, well priced hotel. Breakfast was delicious (make your own pancakes, waffles; ready made omelets, bacon/sausage, breads, and more). Super friendly staff. Beds were comfy and pool was refreshing. Close to highway and restaurants and stores within seconds of the hotel. Save a bit of money by staying here and spend it on all the great sights in this beautiful city!

« Would have been OK if they hadn't kicked us out.. »

Checked in for a weekend, or something like that, I tend to forget. I definitely inquired at check-in that I may need the room for a couple more days depending on how my trip was going and she said it would be absolutely no problem, just call the front desk and they would extend it. I actually got her name because I knew they would ask who I spoke with for any problems. It was a late night check in. Now I will share some of the blame, as checkout was 11 and I was sound sound asleep and didn't ask to renew the room until 10:50, 10 mins before check out. I know this was stupid of me, but I was on medication, sleeping pills, and just couldn't wake myself up early enough to call. However in my defense, subconsciously, I didn't really think it would be a big deal because the check in clerk ASSURED me it would be no issue at all.. Well guess what? It was an issue and they basically told me to get out. I pleaded my case but to no avail and honestly? They didn't give a crap one way or the other. They really didn't care. I gave them the name of the woman I spoke with and said that she said it would not be an issue, that seemed to have little if any effect on them. She said the room has been reserved and that's that. I have to admit, especially being half mummified on sleeping pills it was a complete nightmare. Trying to rush up and pack at the last second while I was on medication was a hellish event I care not to remember. They showed no empathy, total lack of concern, and just wanted us out ASAP so they could clean the room! If that event wouldn't have taken place, I would've given it five stars. But you simply don't treat quests like that.

me an my wife found this hotel very nice< clean an in a good spot . the beds need some work . an it would have been nice if the pool had stayed open till 11 . that way when your out on the town an you come back in late you could still go relax. in the pool. but all an all it is a good place to stay

« Close to Everything, Clean, Friendly Staff, I recommend it. »

We stayed 3 nights and it was great. Good breakfast and Carol does a superb job keeping everything filled even when it is crowded at breakfast. I understand that sometimes things run out, and she immediately refilled the items. The staff was very helpful in telling us places to go and even helped pick out brochures of places to go. Overall, I was pleased with the experience. I rate them a 5 for the quality of the staff, location, and price.

« Great relaxing place to stay that won't break the bank »

Nice, well maintained and quiet. I like being able to park just outside my door. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included. You are only a few miles from downtown Charleston, in the other direction is Tanger Outlets, a mall and many dining options. The best BBQ in Charleston is next door in walking distance. The pool is outstanding. The property is landscaped in a tropical setting. All is secure in a nice part of town, easy to find.

« sleeping in the low-country »

This hotel is very nice, VERY CLEAN, and friendly staff. Newly renovated, they did it right. The pool us huge and clean. We enjoyed a daily hot breakfast, included and when they say it has everything, they mean everything! Will definitely stay here again!!

« Missed 5 stars by this much »

We visit Charleston frequently, and this was our first time staying at Best Western. We were very impressed. The property is clean, secure, and well maintained. The price is reasonable. The pool is large and clean. The staff is friendly, professional and very accommodating. I needed to send a fax for business, and it was immediately taken care of. The breakfast area is clean and comfortable. The breakfast offerings include a nice variety of items, from cold cereal and pastries, to omelettes and biscuits and gravy. The lone attendant did the best she could to keep up with the guests. Therein lies the reason this review receives 4 instead of 5 stars. One lone attendant can not keep the coffee filled (at 7:30 the pot was empty. Once alerted she dashed off to brew more, but there was a significant wait). The gravy for the biscuits was in a crock pot, but it was lukewarm at best. That wouldn't be a big deal, except that the attendant was using the microwave to prepare bacon for the guests, resulting in a significant wait to warm up the lukewarm biscuits & gravy. That's not acceptable. There should be equipment available elsewhere to prepare the food, so that guests can use the microwave in the dining area. I sincerely hope these issues will be fixed, because I definitely plan to give this place another shot at making the 5 grade.

« Great place for the price »

The room was nice and clean. Friendly staff, great free breakfast. The grounds were well maintained and has a nice large pool. Only a few minutes drive from a lot of things to see and do, Would recommend to any one looking for a nice place to rest up from a day of fun.

4
« A very pleasant surprise »

Beautifully landscaped and maintained. Very clean (saw staff cleaning the grounds and parking at least twice a day). Rooms are a little dated but acceptable. A nice pool area. A Southern gem in the midst of overpriced area hotels.

« An older hotel revived! »

Great stay, very close to the historic district of Charleston. It reminds me of an older hotel updated. Very clean rooms and great colors! The pool is large and the grounds are nicely landscaped. Breakfast was typical but decent.

5
« The best! »

My husband thought this the best Best Western we had ever used on a vacation. It was clean, bed comfortable and breakfast was good. We only had one issue and house cleaning did not replace cups. Once we told the front desk about this; cups were delivered within 10 minutes. Would defiantly recommend a stay at this facility.

3
« Vacation »

Location was good for us. We were there for an overnight stay. We went to Bubba Gumps for supper. The hotel was clean an well kept. The only issue was with breakfast. I went down to check out the breakfast area and was told by the desk that we had to eat over at Sleep Inn that shared a breakfast area. When we checked out I noticed people coming out with plates. I was told that the breakfast area had not been cleaned and was late opening up. Will not stay here again.

5
« Very Pet Friendly »

While this hotel was great as far as being pet friendly it totally lacked in handicap accommodations. \\We traveled with my 88 year old Dad and no ramped sidewalks or elevators in the back buildings. Breakfast was decent as far as hotel food goes and offered many choices. Rooms were clean and the staff very friendly..

2
« Not the Best Western »

This Best Western is just ok. We have stayed at great ones in Arizona and in western Canada. This is just ok. Here's what we liked after three nights there: room was more or less clean, second floor has high ceiling, beds comfy, pool clean and good sized, breakfast is handy. What we didn't like, rooms are smallish and poorly lit, towels very small, cockroach or two on wall one day, "local kids" sneaking into the pool, people smoking outside rooms causes smoke smell to drift into room, no courtesy safe in the rooms which was surprising. The location is good for Charleston. Next time might stay on the amount Pleasant side as those hotels seemed a bit nicer and were about the same price. These are the things I learned after spending a few days in Charleston which is a lovely city.

5
« Lovely setting »

A great looking, and well staffed, and maintained place to stay. Close to downtown Charleston and historic plantations, with plenty of nearby stores and restaurants to choose if you want a quiet night, and a leisurely swim in a great pool that actually has adult depths.

« Pleasant Stay »

Good stay at this facility. Very convenient to where I planned to visit while in Charleston. Right on one one of the main public service routes that serviced the downtown area where I visited every day that I was in Charleston.

« Excellent place to stay for visits to Historic sites and Fort Sumter »

We selected this hotel because of positive reviews by people who stayed here. We liked the location for a short 1 1/2 day (2 nite) visit to tour this charming city. The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was complimentary and plentiful, wi-fi was easy to use. Services provided by staff were exceptional in every way. La Quana was at the front desk while we were there and she was extremely helpful to us. I would recommend staying here if you visit Charleston and want good old southern treatment with hospitality.

A bit pricy for this location. The room was very clean. We were in the back building, possibly a new structure or updated room. Breakfast was very good. Only one washing machine for the entire hotel, located in a open public area outside.

« Great Hotel »

Hotel was in a great location, pool was awesome, room was wonderfully clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful and checkout was a breeze. I would definitely stay here again! The breakfast was not the best I have ever had but it was complimentary and I was satisfied with the selections they offered. The only downside is getting in and out of the hotel. Traffic is a nightmare at certain times of the day but still worth staying here.

« Recently Redecorated »

We had reservations for 3 nights. The rooms were recently redecorated. Ours had two sinks, one immediately outside the bathroom. The tub/shower was new, but the tub trained very slowly and by the end of one's shower, there was 6 to 8 inches of water in it. Anthony tried 2 days to fix it. By our last morning, it was draining just fine thanks to his efforts. Sadly, the walls were rather thin, as it is a older facility. A dog in the next room whined a lot in the evening, but at least not during the night. Also, and thankfully, the traffic on the very busy highway out front disappeared at night and the room was rather quiet. Breakfast was good, but the woman supplying it on Friday of our stay was totally overworked and really needed a helper to keep up with the demand. Nonetheless, she maintained a "happy face" throughout it all. The other members of the staff also were friendly. A major problem for us was the curtain, which let in much too much light from the very large swimming pool at night. For swimmers, the pool is quite large with a number of shaded tables and chairs around it.

« Beautiful city »

Spent two days here on road trip. This is a beautiful city. History resonates. Visited Boone hall plantation and follys beach. Hotel was very nice and beds comfortable. Only issue I had,was when we returned to room there was a towel bar on my nightstand and the towels were on bathroom sink. Guess they wanted me to fix it. Which I did. Put bar back on rack and hung,up towels. Maybe housekeeping needs more training. Anyway, enjoyed our stay.

« Great Value for the Price »

« Oasis »

What a lovely hotel; a great stop after a long day on the road. The Sweetgrass Best Western has beautiful grounds, comfortable beds and a great location. We were able to enjoy a restful night, have a wonderful breakfast (thanks much to Carol who runs the breakfast room) and then take the short trip into Charleston to walk the waterfront and have lunch before continuing our trip to Maryland. And, best of all, they welcomed our Golden Retriever Reese with no extra charge. Too often the hotels that welcome dogs are run down and kind of worn out. Not so here; a wonderful place to rest.

3
« Needs Work »

This hotel needs some work in cleaning up the exterior routes, stairs, and areas outside room doors. Very dirty. Inside the rooms are acceptable, although not outstandingly clean. Rooms are very dark. This room is acceptable if paying $120 or less per night, but if you are getting a rate closer to $200 per night, it is not really worth the price.

5
« Absolutely a pleasant stay »

One of the cleanest and best kept places I have been in in quite some time. The staff are polite and go out of their way to see that your needs are looked after. Excellent full breakfast. Nice and quiet. I travel with a pet and the accomodations for it here were excellent.I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends. It is located conveniently close to the historical district of Charleston.

« Great place to stay! »

We came into Charleston with no clear destination in mind, and found this Best Western and decided to stop. So glad we did! This is a friendly and exceptionally clean motel, with an excellent staff. Greeted by Da-Quana at the front desk, she was friendly and very helpful. She even printed out directions for us to a very nice beach! The room, on the ground floor and a king, was very clean and smelled wonderful. We were extremely pleased with our room! The breakfast was excellent and had something that should please everyone. You could make your own waffles and pancakes. There were eggs, sausage/bacon, biscuits, gravy, cereal, fruit, yogurt, Danish, bagels and English muffins. Coffee was very good, and there was milk and juice as well. They serve breakfast until 10, which is a welcome change for those of us who are traveling for pleasure and don't like getting up early just to have breakfast before 9 am. Coffee and hot tea is available all during the day in the front lobby. All the staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely will stay here again!

From my first minute being welcomed by Da-Quana at the front desk, to the glorious huge pool and the warm help at breakfast given by Carol, I was SO happy to have chosen this hotel!! « Nice, quiet stay »

Our stay was nice! Front desk staff was friendly. Rooms were small but nice. We chose this hotel because it was pet-friendly. One of the best pet-friendly hotels we've stayed in. Only complaints was the very loud exhaust fan in the bathroom that did nothing, the lukewarm water, & the extremely bright light on the microwave that shone right in our face as we tried to sleep. Breakfast was good & had plenty of options. The breakfast staff worker was very friendly & accommodating. We will definitely stay again when visiting the Charleston area.

« Good experience »

The hotel had a very big makeover and Looks smashing now. But the air condition in the room ist far too loud what caused sleeping problems. First we were given a wrong we had not booked. The receptionist changed rooms but seemed annoyed to do it. She turned unfriendly. The breakfast and Carol's Service is brilliant! :-)

Although this hotel is on the main highway, the location of the rooms and the parking lot don't make it feel that way. you feel off the road - nice relief to driving. The pool looked so inviting, although we didn't have time to take advantage of it. Rates were great, especially in the town of Charleston! Close to town and plantations. Can't go wrong!

« Best Western, Charleston, SC »

Excellent facility. Quiet, recently renovated, central to many tourist locations. Located on Rt 17 (Savannah Hwy) has it's advantages but definitely a busy road during rush hours. A few restaurants within walking distance. Parking at a premium in some places. April is still off season in Charleston.

« Quite satisfied with the hotel »

Staff professional, clean hotel and I slept well. I would recommend this hotel. It is easy to find off of the highway, Plenty of parking. Breakfast - variety of items to eat. Great hotel for the family.

« Great Stay for Pre-Cruise »

We got an extra day & night in Charleston for not much more than the cost of parking ($140) at the port for a 7 day cruise. The shuttle took us to and from the port, while our car stayed safely at Best Western. This is the second time we stayed here the night before our cruise. I highly recommend doing this. It's an easier embarkation at the port and we got a mini stay in Charleston. Win! Win!

« Great trip »

We stayed here 3 nights while visiting Charleston. This is a very nice inn for the price. Very good breakfast. The lady at check in was very helpful. Breakfast worker was very friendly. Our room was comfortable and this was a good location for going into the city. One little hiccup in the trip but the manager worked it out. Would certainly recommend this inn.

« Great Staff, Confused Management »

After some confusion with the room type (number of beds) we wanted to book, we enjoyed our stay here. The pool is lovely, rooms are brand-new and clean, and breakfast is great. I would stay here again. I think the staff here really shines, and the management leaves something to be desired, but still a great place to stay in a convenient location.

5
« Very clean, very comfortable »

Stayed two nights, after leaving another hotel that was not so great. So glad we switched. Convenient location to local restaurants. Breakfasts was good. Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Reasonably priced. Comfortable bed and pillows. Really have no complaints.

« Great place to stay. »

This is a clean and quite place to stay. The staff was great and answered every question I had about the area. They moved us from the 2nd floor to the 1st with no problem. I did not use the pool but several people were enjoying it. The woman who set up the breakfast was wonderful.

« Very clean, well-run property, well located and reasonably priced »

We used this inn as as stop-over to visit friends on a return trip from Florida to Virginia - specifically because the inn accommodates pets. Our room was roomy, decorated in typical traveler hotel style and very clean. Breakfast was considerably above average for properties of this type. The inn is located on a highly developed, busy street not far from downtown Charleston. Good for business travelers and anyone with transportation, but if going to downtown Charleston, parking can be difficult and expensive. If you are looking for the ambiance of Old Charleston, obviously, this property is not located in that area. But if you are looking for a comfortable room at a reasonable price, definitely consider the Sweetgrass Inn.

« Could have been 5 for the price... »

Was here for 4 nights. Two rooms. Recently renovated hotel. The rooms are not in one building. You access your room from outside. Place that a lot of construction workers from out of town staying. For the price it was a great bargain and good stay. Quiet and well maintained Pool was great Rooms clean Employees very nice Breakfast decent And the lady working breakfast is exceptional. Give that lady a raise... Only things were... Don't understand why they didn't make the large windows looking out to pool sliding doors instead? And after staying in MANY hotels in area over past year... The room was very small. Other than that though well done for a best western!

« Very Clean, Quiet and Close to Everything »

Arrived a little and was greeted with a smile and friendly voice. We were checked in quickly and given a layout of the facilities and breakfast times. We were also given numerous pointers on what to visit and good times to be there. Great staff in the lobby. The room was very clean and quiet even being close to the pool. The king bed was comfortable, the decor refreshing and the bathroom was spotless. Very nice place to stay for our three night vacation.

« Very nice »

We had an unexpected visit to Charleston, and needed to stay overnight. Fortunately, Best Western Sweetgrass Inn had some rooms. The room was very recently renovated, with the bathroom and the room itself attractively styled. We found the beds comfortable and the room itself very clean. The front desk employees were very helpful and efficient.

« Happy on Vacation »

Making a choice for a 5 day vacation retreat is difficult!! The price and quality seems to have gotten out of control. The room pricing is one thing then $17.oo in taxes and fees. My vacation budget is totaling gone with hotel cost. I enjoyed my stay the prices not so much. Great Breakfast and Great Staff.

« Loved it »

A great hotel with comfortable beds and a good variety for breakfast. Very efficient check in and check out staff and very friendly as well. You are close to downtown and it was not a bad drive to the historic garden district.

« Clean, comfortable, friendly, short drive to Charlestown Historic area »

This is a great place to stay at a reasonable rate. The free breakfast food is plentiful and delicious and served in a pleasant area with plenty of seating. The grounds are nicely landscaped, and the pool is very nice. The staff are courteous and friendly. We were told our room had been recently updated. The beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and nice. This is my second stay here in less then a year, and I will be back in the next couple of months. They allow pets in one area, but I have never heard barking from the rooms, even when I stayed there with a pet. The parking area is large, and shared with another hotel. We were able to park two nights with a huge moving trailer attached to our truck. There are good restaurants in walking distance of the hotel. Hotel is a short drive to the historic area of Charleston, MUSC, plantations, and other areas of interest.

4
« Nice accomodations »

This is a very nice property. My only complaint is that the pool was being renovated and therefore not in service. The room was clean and updated. Breakfast was better than expected and the staff were very attentive. I would recommend this hotel and will stay there again when I visit Charleston. We stayed at this hotel prior to going on a cruise and used the stay and cruise package. We were able to leave our vehicle on the property and we were shuttled to and from the cruise port.

« Best Western Sweetgrass - Southern Hospitality at its best »

The Best Western Sweetgrass is perfectly located to downtown, the plantations, Folly Beach, Mt Pleasant. The best place to stay if you plan to explore. The hotel is also dog friendly, which makes traveling with your furry companions stress free! The hotel has been remodeled and it is beautiful! The lobby is nice and the rooms are lovely. Everything was perfect - the breakfast is wonderful! There was not anything we could want, that they did not have. And I have to say, Carol the lady who attends the breakfast area is fantastic! She always greeted us with a smile and made sure everything we needed was there. She made sure everything was perfect - nothing out of place. I had forgotten my spoon for yogurt and she noticed right off and brought me one, which was really sweet! You can tell she takes pride in her work. We cannot say enough good things about BW Sweetgrass and that is our official place to stay when we visit Charleston!

« Quiet little gem of a hotel »

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights on a short visit to this beautiful city. We loved the hotel. The staff was so welcoming upon arrival, which was great after an 11 hr drive. Our room was well maintained, nice decor, very clean with a full bathroom and then an additional sink outside the bathroom, which worked really well for getting water or brushing teeth etc. The storage space was excellent, and my husband especially liked the 42 " tv. The breakfast was plentiful, omelettes, Canadian bacon, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, tea, coffee. The room was beautiful (beside the pool, which was not open during our visit) and exceptionally clean. We did have an issue with not enough hot water for a shower, which was fixed immediately. A nice touch at check out was bottled water for our drive.

« Not what I thought I was getting »

I made the reservation at this particular hotel so that I could leave my vehicle there while I went on a cruise. When I got to the hotel to check in I was told that I didn't have the "cruise" package and it would be an additional $40. After discussing it and knowing my other options were limited I went ahead and paid the extra money and the person at the counter put me down for the shuttle the following morning. Then he proceeded to tell me that the pool wasn't open and the owners weren't happy because they had just spent $150,000 on other hotel issues. Of course no discount was offered for the lack of a pool. The next morning I had this uneasy feeling about the shuttle so I went back to the front desk to confirm the pick up time and I wasn't even on the list! As far as the actual room, it was ok. Outdated but clean and the bed was comfortable.

« Great! »

What a great place to stay. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and very helpful. Especially Da-Quana at the front desk. She helped me with my iPad and when we had problems with night noise, she instantly handled it. Stephanie during the day was great in getting us directions to where we wanted to go. Carol in the breakfast room was extremely accommodating and made sure we had what we needed. The rooms were clean and roomy and we had everything we needed in them. I can highly recommend this Best Western location

« Nice and affordable »

Very good hotel! This place was clean, well maintained, comfortable bed , polite staff. Can't say enough good things!! The pool was broken when we was there but the staff arranged for us to go and use the pool at a hotel two blocks down. No Gym, but they gave me a card to get into a local fitness center for free. Great place! I will be back!

« Great Place »

This hotel was great- clean, considerate staff and great location, near to downtown with easy access to highway. Super comfy beds and near bike paths for the family. Would recommend to others on vacation near Charleston.

5
« Great service »

The service and employees are helpful and nice; however, don't be late to breakfast or you get decaf. There are three pillows on each bed but I wish I brought my own. The toilet paper was "John Wayne" quality, so bring your own. I like that there are no heavy comforters, but a nice blanket layered between two really nice quality linens. I didn't have to wonder if the top cover had been cleaned between uses.

« Great place, stay here! »

We spent two nights in Charleston at this hotel. It is very clean, priced right and offers an extensive breakfast. The room was well laid out and the bathroom was clean, everything worked as it should. Parking is conveniently right out side your door. The breakfast area is maintained by a lady named Carol, she is a pleasure to be around. She keeps the breakfast area clean and well stocked, she is helpful to all the guests and even goes so far as to help the children make their own waffles. Internet was better than average for a hotel. We will stay here again if possible.

« Excellent Stay! »

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights. We were very impressed as soon as we walked through the lobby doors. The staff was friendly and helpful. The front desk gave us a call after we got to our room to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. I requested extra towels when I reserved the room, and they were in our room as requested. Our room was spotless and smelled clean and fresh. The beds were comfortable and we slept very well. There was adequate parking and we didn't have to worry about not being able to find a space upon returning from an outing. This hotel is also in a terrific location. We were only a short drive from everything that we wanted to do. We will definitely stay there again!

4
« Clean and neat - great location »

I liked that we were able to pull up right in front of our room which made unloading luggage easy. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean & neat. So many great shopping places close by. Convenient and fast to get to Folly Beach and to downtown Charleston.

« Breakfast Room »

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Everyone at the hotel was super nice, friendly and helpful. Hotel is being renovated and our room and lobby were very nice! Reasonably priced too! Pool was beautiful. Carol, the breakfast attendant was THE BEST! Such a sweet, kind woman. She made us feel right at home and was very helpful offering up ideas and advice and directions to see what we wanted to see. My daughter (15 yrs old) wanted to take her home with us! What a gem she was. I believe that without her (Carol) our visit wouldn't have been the same. She just had that kind nurturing personality and we loved her. Will most definitely stay here again if we're in the area. Front desk to rooms, awesome!

« Clean, quiet and sufficient. »

We stayed at the Sweetgrass Inn for two nights, it was clean and very comfortable. It was quiet at night. The complimentary breakfast was the typical "continental breakfast" waffles, eggs, cereal, toast and donuts. The healthy options of fruit and yogurt were available too. This motel is a few miles outside of the city of Charleston but close if you're driving and the city has parking garage for visitors near the visitor's center. I recommend this motel.

The service and caring attitude of Carol in the breakfast room is wonderful and a rare treat. Her hospitality and motherly nature makes every guest feel at home! What a great asset to this hotel. Carol enjoys helping everyone feel at home and caters to all the needs of guests like my little three year old Connor. Thank you Carol for the best stay ever. Angela

« Mother/Daughter spring vacation »

Made a quick impromptu trip to Charleston for spring break. Opted to stay out of down town and was happy to find this Best Western. The rooms are freshly renovated and well appointed. Found it a bit on the cool side for the time of year. The heater didn't crank as I'd preferred for only having a thin blanket on the bed. I know it's a hotter climate but it was cool when we were there. The lobby was being renovated but the reception was always very friendly when we were there. Lots to choose from for breakfast but the room itself was set up oddly. There as a big space on one side of the room where food was then it was cramped and squished for eating and at the back where the toaster was. Almost like they cleaned the floor and didn't move all the furniture back-but it was like that the whole time. Would be nice to be a bit more spread out. The pool looked lovely-too cool to try it out! Easy commute into the city proper or to Folly Beach or Isle of Palms. Malls with easy access as well as a movie theater. Decent dining options in the area. We'd stay again if back in the area.

« Great place, pet friendly »

We had low expectations, but the staff could not have been nicer, the room was comfortable, and our dog was completely welcome. The breakfast was unexpectedly good, with good variety. We would definitely stop here again on a north-south road trip.

« Enjoyed renovated rooms and breakfast selection »

My first trip to Charleston and stay at a Best Western hotel were both worth the trip. The hotel is undergoing renovation and I was assigned to one of the updated rooms. I liked the offering of two sinks (one outside the bathroom). The location was excellent for catching a bus to downtown. The strip offered a variety of eateries. Breakfast was included and Carol, the dining facilitator, demonstrated exceptional southern hospitality and customer service. She made sure you had what you needed and even wrapped your plate if you were taking it to your room.

« Clean, Updated Rooms With a Great Staff »

I have stayed here a total of 3 nights now and my experience was good. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are updated to modern standards. Being an exterior entrance Hotel, the safety here has not been an issue. It is quiet at night. This Hotel seems to cater to business travelers and construction crews. Most all of them are in bed early so the property is quiet at night which is awesome. The staff here is really sweet and does what ever they can to make your stay a good one. Keep up the good work Bill and Nina, your doing a great job with this property. Thanks again!

« Great Place to Stay! »

This was our first trip to Charleston, and we will definitely be back. Josh, at the front desk, was so helpful and welcoming and gave us several great suggestions as to where to eat, and places to visit during our stay. Our room, which had been recently renovated, was clean, quiet, and the beds were very comfortable. The location was good and it was easy to get back and forth from downtown Charleston as well as visiting one of the plantations just outside of town.

« An Excellent Place To Stay »

Would rank this Best Western as one of the best that we have ever stayed at. It was very clean, the rooms that we understand have been completely remodeled were excellent. The location to visit downtown Charleston presented no problem. Would definitely stay here again when in the Charleston area

« Everything we needed »

We stayed at this hotel the night before our cruise. We used the shuttle to and from the port and the free parking while we were gone. Everything went very smooth. Breakfast was good and had lots of choices. Our room was clean and I loved the vaulted ceiling and two sinks. Bed was very comfortable. The front lobby was under construction, and will be very nice when it is done. We will definitely be staying here again.

4
« Great service! »

Rooms newly remodeled, beds are new and cozy. Grounds are well kept, nice large pool and a great private breakfast area. Josh at the desk was very helpful and professional. easy check in and check out. I will be back thank you

« Pretty good. »

We booked a night here to take advantage of the free parking and shuttle service to the cruise port. The hotel lobby was under renovation, but we didn't hear any construction noise etc. I booked online and did not realize that the shuttle service was per person. For some reason I did not see where I had to list how many people were being shuttled. It was a little disappointing to have to dish out another $60 right before we left to transport the rest of my family, but it still saved us $60 over parking at the cruise terminal. The shuttle service was excellent and it was very easy to get a ride right back to the hotel after the cruise.

« Great Alternative »

This is a great alternative to paying higher prices closer to town. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was large and clean . The breakfast dining area was not only larger than most , but more importantly the breakfast was more than ample and the staff took exceptional care to make sure you were satisfied. Even though we were out of town it was a straight drive to and from downtown Charleston .On our next trip to Charleston we will be staying at this Best Western.

« Great Hotel!! »

I've got to say, this was one of the cleanest hotels we stayed in & we travel a lot. This was our first time staying there & we were very pleased. Check in & out was fast & everyone was so nice. And let me tell you.. The bed.. Omg .. It was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The room was really nice & clean. The breakfast was delicious. Already making plans to go back.

« Truly Excellent Motel »

Our rooms were so recently renovated that we may have been the very first guests to use them. The mattresses have a memory foam layer and are exceptionally comfortable. There is a large flat screen TV, fridge, microwave and a reasonable amount of storage. The draperies fully black out the room. Everything in the room is new and the heating/cooling is reasonably quiet. Internet access is faster than typical and the breakfast is above average. The grounds are attractive and all of the buildings housing guest rooms are well away from the road. The location is about midway between Charleston Int'l Airport and downtown Charleston. Rush hour traffic--particularly the afternoon--finds very heavy traffic coming from the city to the motel. There are quite a number of restaurants nearby and the two we choose for dinners (one Italian the other Tex-Mex) were excellent. The low price makes this motel an exceptionally good value.

5
« Very comfortable stay »

The lobby was under renovation which almost made me turn around and not go in but I am very glad I did. The stay was very comfortable and pleasant. The staff was very friendly and most helpful. The breakfast was very good and the room for breakfast was very nice and was pleasant to be in. I would most certainly stay again if in the area.

5
« Great stay »

We didn't plan on staying over in Charleston but needed a place to stay after a very stressful day. The room was clean, comfortable and really quiet. We got a very peaceful nights sleep and a satisfying breakfast the next morning. Got our AARP discount, too. I'll be back for sure.

« Absolutely the best motel we have EVER stayed in!!!!! »

Our daughter will be attending college in Charleston in the fall, so this was our 1st visit to the area. I was overwhelmed with how many places there were to choose from and I read reviews on most of the motels in the area. After reading the reviews and visiting the BW Sweetgrass website, I made our reservation for 2 nights. I was a little worried because in the past we have had some horrendous experiences with motels/hotels we had stayed in the past site unseen. Check in was a breeze, they were renovating the lobby, but not a big deal. From the moment we opened the door to the very spacious, welcoming room, we all couldn't believe how nice it was! Extremely clean and very nicely decorated. The beds we over the top comfortable, even the pillows were fluffy and comfy. Nice size tv, fridge and counter area. The bathroom was very clean and the extra sink was good to have. The shower was wonderful. The continental breakfast was very good. Really nice pool, but the weather was cold, so we didn't get a chance to use it. The staff was very polite and friendly. Convenient location. No question about the fact that we will be staying here again whenever we visit the area, which will probably be quite often over the next 4 years!!! I highly recommend this facility. Definitely the best motel experience we have ever had! Thank you Best Western Sweetgrass Inn!

« Sketchy neighborhood, nice pool area and convenient to Charleston »

We stayed here while spending a few days in Charleston. This hotel is located a short drive from downtown, and traffic getting into the city can be heavy at times. This hotel is located in a not-so-safe looking area, and this is more of a motel than a hotel, with outside entrances. The rooms were musty and needed an update. I will say that the breakfast was fine, with friendly and polite staff, but the location and some of hotel clientele were a bit on the rough side. Will not be staying here again.

2
« Not Family Friendly »

We had reservations here but after checking in...decided against it. This is a motel and has no interior entry and several different buildings...no elevators. Our room was in the last building facing the woods. There were many people just sitting outside their rooms smoking and drinking. The hotel was nice enough to refund our money. There was also a few police cars patrolling the parking lot.

4
« Valentine's Weekend »

This is a very nice hotel but be warned it is in a very busy area and getting in and out of the hotel is a nightmare on the weekend. However, the hotel seems to be new renovated and was very nice and the beds were so comfortable. Over all we enjoyed our stay and would return if in the area!

« And the puppy too. »

We traveled to Charleston for our wedding anniversary and to visit friends. We stayed here for the loyalty points and because we could take our puppy. The staff was friendly and the room was clean and well appointed. The free breakfast buffet was good with a nice selection. Overall, a relaxing stay. If I had to make any complaint, it would be that the water in the shower wasn't very hot.

« Quick stop over »

Ido not ever stay at Best Westerns, but we were looking for a place that would take a pet and was not out of the way in Charleston. We decided that this would be fine for one night. What a pleasant surprise to have the front desk person greet us and make us feel like we had just walked into a 5 star hotel! The room was very up to date and clean. The next morning we went down for the complimentary breakfast where the attendee was helping older people carry their breakfast and working with everyone to make sure they were happy and finding what they wanted. This hotel has changed my mind about Best Westerns, but I think it will be hard for others to live up to this one!

« Business became pleasure »

We were on a business trip to Charleston Sc. I was Very tired when I arrived at the motel. When i went to the front desk there was no hassle. Everything was ready for me. The Lady at the front desk couldn't have been any nicer and helpful. I have been to a lot of motels around the Country and She made me feel comfortable and welcome. When I went to my room it smelled clean and looked clean, The bed was so comfortable ans so was the pillows. I had forgotten my shampoo and conditioner. When I went to take a shower There was shampoo and conditioner that was a good name brand. i was so happy. When I finally went to bed, It didn't take long and I was asleep. Refreshed the next morning and ready to go the next day. I wenr out to my car and got to see the Motel. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! So happy I called The Best Western that night.

« Great location for visiting PLANTATIONS! (With big breakfast - YUM.) »

We had a newly renovated room - nicely done.... Great decor. While interior configuration of room was similar to most, the entry was odd. You park in front of your room (like most motels) but there are no windows on that side. You're simply facing a blank wall with doors spaced out along it. Practically, it makes sense, no one opens windows to parking lot area anyway and gave more room in the interior for a second vanity! It's just a bit off-putting to pull up to... Windows opened at far end of room to over look pool area and greenery. Would stay again - was a short drive into Charleston but our main focus this trip was the plantations (which are slightly out of town) so the location was ideal.

« Our stay at Sweetgrass Inn was "sweet" indeed! »

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this location! Our truly smoke-free room was neat and clean, with pillow-top beds and crisp, clean sheets that helped us wake refreshed and energized each day. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, from DaQuonna, who courteously welcomed us with her beautiful smile and provided us with info and maps re: the attractions we came to visit ... to Carol, who made us feel at home as she made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy a delicious breakfast each day (the blueberry waffles were particularly favorites!) ... to Olivia, who made sure we had no lingering questions or concerns as she checked us out and sent us on our way. This location was very convenient to all of our favorite Charleston SC attractions (i.e. Patriots Point, Downtown restaurants, Aquarium, museum, the Hunley and Folly Beach). We definitely plan to stay at Sweetgrass Inn again the next time we're in the area!

« Nice cruise stop »

We drove down from Maryland the day before a cruise, the only problems we had were that the water was lukewarm, which obviously is a first world problem and not worth crying over, and that when we booked, the booking process didn't catch that we were doing the cruise package, so an unexpected $20 per person was added to the room cost for the transportation to and from the port. The rooms were nice, clean, and the area was easily located and seemed safe. The bus to the port in the morning was very nice, and there were different times to choose from. They put your bags in the bus and took us through the very pretty downtown area. They were very informative, and they give you two tickets per person; one to get to the port and one to present for return, so you have to be careful not to lose them! Upon return, the bus was there within 20 minutes of calling, and was easy to find despite the numerous other busses and cabs waiting for people getting off the boat. The Charleston port was the fastest port I've ever been in and out of. Definitely recommend this hotel for cruisers and would stay again.

I have stayed here multiple times and will return when I am in the area. The breakfast attendant carol is awesome. She knows me by name and always ask how I am doing and when I will be back. I miss not having the option to have a smoking room at this location now though.

« Convenient but smelly and damp »

We visited Charleston straight after the October flooding, so I expected the area to be damp. The hotel hadn't been flooded. Our room was on the first floor (American second floor) in the building at the rear. It smelt appalling and we asked for another room. Housekeeping were extremely cooperative in changing our room, but did have a slight air of 'We don't think it smells particularly bad but we'll help you nevertheless'. I can understand that they didn't want to admit to a problem. The replacement room smelt as well , but not so bad and we decided to put up with it. However when I unpacked at our next hotel I realised our clothes were very damp and we had to lay them out across the beds to dry. I notice from another reviewer who stayed in October that our experience was not unique. Apart from the smell, we liked the location and were pleased we could get the no. 30 bus into town and not use our car. The rear building is very quiet, particularly considering the very busy main road at the front. However the highlight of our stay was the really friendly lady running the breakfast buffet. To my shame I can't remember her name, but it was her birthday (a significant one, I shall say no more than that!) during our stay and I had a lovely conversation with her on the bus that day. One of the people I shall not forget who we met during our holiday.

« Great location Awesome place »

We spent two nights here staff was awesome and the rooms newly remodeled are great and it was a quiet place as well. Place is close to downtown and close to other area interests. Breakfast was good with both hot and cold choices. Will definitely stay here next time we are in the area and want a clean comfortable room. Hats off to the staff from breakfast to front desk to the grounds and roomcleaning staff.

I love the breakfast here. Ms. Carol is absolutely awesome!! She is very nice and helpful! I enjoy and look forward to seeing her in the morning at breakfast when I stay here. I love the renovations. I enjoy everything about my stay at this hotel!!

« Happy with room »

Room was clean and comfortable. Happy that this is a pet-friendly location. Very happy that they had multigrain bagels for breakfast as I try to avoid white bread. Close to the city, so it was easy to head out to see the sights in the morning. Staff is friendly. Very helpful when asking about a restaurant with vegan choices nearby.

« Antebellum Journey »

3 nights in Charleston was the start of our "Antebellum" trip to Charleston, Savannah and St Augustine. The Sawgrass Inn was great and offered an included breakfast that rivals anything at IHOP or any other breakfast spot. The location is south and over the bridge from downtown Charleston and offers a close enough location(6 miles, 15 minutes) to the downtown without the high costs...parking alone is $15/day in town. I'll stay here again on my next trip to Charleston.

« The Best place to stay!!!!!! »

Had an fabulous time staying at the Best Western in a suite..... fit for a queen. The room was clean and the service was out of this world!!! The front desk clerk help me decide on what dress to wear, can you believe that. The term out of your way service is definitely this place!!!!!!

« Great hotel & destination »

2-day stay in Charleston. This hotel is on the main hwy. to Charleston, just a 5 minute drive into the city. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good & there is a BBQ place (Bessingers) right next door...very good food!! The staff was very nice and accommodating. Our visit to Charleston was great...wish we had longer to stay.

« Quiet hotel in a good location »

Nice hotel overall. Big comfortable room... and most important, quiet. Close enough to downtown Charleston. Breakfast is average for this category of hotel. We Will stay there again on our next trip to South Carolina.

« Decent hotel for the price »

Caveat emptor - you get what you pay for. I am not trying to knock the Best Western Sweetgrass. In fact, it more than met my family's needs while we were on vacation over the Christmas holiday. However, don't expect too much going in. This is an older hotel, with motel style rooms. The doors all open to the outside, and there are often people standing outside on the balcony smoking outside of the non-smoking rooms. This didn't bother me, but it may bother some. The room was clean and comfortable, with a decent size flat screen and typical hotel cable choices (including HBO). We had a room with two doubles. I asked to be switched to one king or two queens, but was refused because I had booked through Priceline (saved a BUNCH off the standard room rate). I understand their point, but they were far from crowded, so it would have made a nice gesture. Also, when we first arrived, the ironing board cover had huge grease stains on it, as if someone had used it for a dining table. Other than that, the room was clean, but old. The carpets were clean, but tattered. The beds were freshly made, but old. Same with the tub - clean, but old. However, it was all perfectly serviceable, and well worth what I paid for it. The staff was really friendly and helpful, with one exception. I called prior to arrival and requested a crib. I was told that they don't HAVE cribs, even though their website says they do. I asked again at check in, and was told that housekeeping wold bring one that day. It never appeared. I asked again the next morning, was told the same thing, and had the same result. I quit asking at that point. The free WiFi was supposed to be high speed, but often wasn't. There was no in room Ethernet either. So, if you need to do a lot of work on a computer, or plan to do much streaming, you may have trouble. Also, the single computer in the "business center" was not working. The front desk clerk did arrange for me to use the one next door at the Sleep Inn so I could print my boarding pass, which was nice of her. The breakfast is decent. The hot food was hot, the cold food was cold, and the variety was pretty good: cheese or Western omelettes; waffles; pancakes; cereal; fruit; yogurt; bagels; muffins; coffee; juice; etc. For us, the location was great - right on Savannah Highway, about 15 minutes from downtown by car OR bus. Parking can be hard to find in downtown Charleston, so the bus can be a good option for some. It's also very close to Citadel Mall, and there are plenty of good places to eat close by. It is a busy road however, so some might find that off putting. Overall, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable, friendly place to stay while in Charleston, and you don't mind "old", you can get some great deals here using Priceline (I paid less than $50 a night, including taxes and fees). I would definitely recommend it based on those terms.

« Comfortable sleep and closer than expected to attractions »

We extended our trip by one day since we were really enjoying Charleston so much and the only room we could find in our price range during New Year's Eve week was at Best Western on Savannah Hwy. The hotel is being renovated and we were first given a room above the set of rooms being renovated. All of the rooms were open with construction materials still strewn about. I returned to check-in and said I was unhappy at what seemed a potentially unsafe situation (three young kids with us). We were immediately given a new room in what I suspect is the newly renovated area. The beds and pillows were so comfortable and the room was spacious. The bathroom was clean and updated. Not important to the stay, but the cathedral and beamed ceilings were pretty. Free breakfast was great... waffles and pancakes, yogurt, eggs, cereal, juices, coffee, the whole nine... it was good and gave us what we needed to do a whole morning in Charleston. The ride into the historic section of Charleston was 10-15 minutes (only parking was annoying). We would have preferred to stay downtown, but this was most definitely a good alternative.

« watch your checking account »

Very sad by the way my debit card was billed three times for a one night stay. It took days to get it fixed. My son asked for a trip to the beach for Christmas, because they messed up my checking account we were unable to do all that we wanted to do. Plus I was so stressed over it I was miserable. I would love to go back to Charleston but not with that type of stress.

« A good night sleep at a convenient location »

I was told I was given a recently renovated room. The front desk staff was friendly. I got lucky that it was on the first floor, so I bypassed the stairs, since I tend to overpack. The bedding was comfortable, and though Savannah Highway is busy, the location is convenient, and close to many routes for Charleston and North Charleston. A free breakfast I also enjoyed. Hint: If you do not know how to use the pancake or waffle maker, there is someone there to help you. I only said that because I observed a 2.5 foot long pancake that was made, and a fragmented waffle that the employee had to get unstuck from the waffle maker. This is a basic property, the room was clean, and the staff was accomodating.

« Best Western Upgrades »

The Best Western is being redone and it is looking good. The pillow top mattresses are a real bonus and the rooms are excellent. A portion of the hotel is still under renovation and you'll want to request the area that is already renovated. It appears the renovation will be completed in the near future. The employees are most helpful and I will be staying here again in the future.

« A Christmas Eve Surprise »

We arrived without reservations on Christmas Eve. Olivia Doscher, who was working the front desk, went beyond the call of duty to accommodate us in a room that suited our needs, and book the next five nights of motels in two sates to make sure our travels were smooth, even beyond her responsibilities. We woke up to a wonderful hot breakfast on Christmas day. Waffles, omelets, cooked by JoAnn, fresh fruit, and even Greek yogurt. Who would believe that the Best Western could pull this off with limited staff on Christmas! Best Western is great, Olivia Doscher is to be commended, and the breakfast cook is terrific. Thanks for a great stay.

« Best Stay Ever at Best Western »

We were in a beautiful room with a king bed overlooking the pool. It was such a pleasure to stay at this Best Western. The breakfast was the best I have had from any Best Western I have stayed. First one to have omelets either cheese or western style. It is also located very close to downtown Charleston, SC. Thanks Best Western for a wonderful stay!

« Clean and Comfortable »

We don't prefer doors to the outside or tiny bathrooms, but overall, it was clean and comfortable. That is very important to us. Would recommend this property. Instead of having a second sink outside the bathroom, we would have preferred having a larger bathroom with more counter space. We also like to have inside corridors, but that's just us. We recommend. :)

« Good location »

Bus stop just about right outside the front door. Great if you don't want to drive into town. Breakfast was great thanks to Carol, very nice person. Olivia help us also. We checked in to find that someone was smoking it that room. She moved us right away to another room. Also everyone else on the staff was great. Bed where very comfortable. Room very clean. We will be back again.

We were traveling from Connecticut to Florida and was able to get a last minuet reservation. Very nice accommodations. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Also pet friendly. We stay in many Best Westerns and this is one of the best.

« Comfortable yet Loud »

The room itself and staff were very accommodating. The only problem was the LOUD banging on pipes and hammering of boards at all hours. I'm sure this is not the usual just happened to be the lucky ones to book a room during a renovation period. Better luck next time,

« Great Value and Comfort »

For a stay in Charleston, this is a great value. Clean and comfortable, with friendly staff and good breakfast. Close to mid-town Charleston. Would definitely stay here again. Convenient to a variety of restaurants and the Citadel Mall.

« Excellent price and near enough to where we were visiting »

BW Sweetgrass is in process of being rehabbed, but the construction really didn't cause much inconvenience for us as we were out being tourists most days that we were there. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Price for the Charleston, SC area was FABULOUS. Getting in and out of the lot, which only exits onto Savannah HWY (US 17), which is a very busy road, isn't for the faint of heart, but it is do-able. They are also within walking distance for the Charleston metro bus line, so it IS possible to get downtown and rely on the free trolley to get around in the Historic downtown.

« Great quick place to stay »

We stayed here one night passing through Charleston. The staff was very friendly and offered several suggestions on where to eat in the area. The room was large with a great view of the pool. It was very clean and updates. Only downside was the construction worker smoking a joint outside his room around the corner from ours.

« good value for the money »

The shower in our room was INCREDIBLE!!! Every hotel room should have this kind of shower head & strength of water pressure!!! Very good breakfast. Coffee maker, microwave oven & mini-fridge in room. Free parking.

« Clean, affordable, pleasant place to stay when visiting Charleston »

We recently stayed at the BW Sweetgrass Inn in Charleston. We spent 5 nights there. We were very satisfied with the cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel and the security of the place. We took the #30 bus into town every morning. It runs along the Savannah Highway - right across the street from the hotel (at White Oak Drive and Savannah). It is a 20 minute ride each way. There is a great BBQ restaurant at the corner of the hotel with a super buffet on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings - $15 with sweet tea included! - and great sandwiches during the rest of the time. If you'd like to see Charleston without paying the astronomical hotel prices in town, stay here. It was super convenient, and we didn't even have to rent a car. Breakfast was respectable every day and always included fresh fruit. Coffee was very good. They keep fresh coffee and lemon flavored ice water out 24/7.

« Great Management »

I had to cancel at the last minute and they were great about it. The manager was very professional, friendly (Im trying to get my character count up to 200) I did not spend the night but the outward appearance was great and the general location was congenial.

« Review of Sweetgrass Inn »

The staff was wonderfully hospitable and very helpful. The room was less than adequate (Room 145). The cable TV was difficult to manage. The WiFi at first did not work, and I had to call twice to have it taken care of. And the room had a musty and damp smell.

4
« On vacation »

We didn't have reservations made before we stopped here. The staff was pleasant and the breakfast lady a delight. The breakfast had more selections than other Best Westerns we stayed on our vacation and was good. The hotel is smaller and so was our room, We only stayed one night and it met our needs. This hotel allows animals and we weren't effected but if I had been next door to the room that a dog was constantly barking (which we heard when we exited our room and were unloading our car), I would have asked for another room. Also the vending machine doesn't show what the cost of items are, so it was a guessing game. The area the hotel is located must have some security issues since the machines had metal security screens on them.

« Dirty room not for me »

Our room was dirty, the floor was gritty, the ice bucket had mold growing in it, the shower was not clean, the staff appeared unconcerned about our complaints. Definately below Best Western standards.

« Great Value »

My wife and I were quite mad after canceling our stay at the Red Roof Inn in Mount Pleasant. We decided to stay here because they were offering a good deal that night and we just wanted somewhere to stay that was quiet and clean. Immediately as I walked into the lobby I could tell this was so so much better, the front desk clerk was EXTREMELY helpful, even moved us up in rooms from two doubles to two Queens since we had such a bad experience at the Red Roof. Upon going to the roof, it was spacious clean and the beds were so comfortable. The bathroom is a little small but the shower is great and didn't hear any commotion outside during the night. Will stay here again!

« Not as good as 1st time »

Upon checking in they tried ti give us a room different from our reservation. We were told our room was not ready, even though it was 3pm, check in time. We left and came back at 5pm and were told it still wasn't ready! We were tired from traveling and this made things worse. They then found an available room after I complained. Ironically, it was the same room we had stayed at three months earlier. Except it wasn't in the same condition. We gave the room a four last trip, and struggled to give it a three this trip. The sink barely drained and the carpet was filthy and threadbare near the bathroom. The coffee maker was one of those "one cup at-a-time" jobs. I don't care how much water you poured in it you only got a 3/4 cup. The breakfast was still much better than most motels, in that it had a lot of variety, but the quality wasn't as good as last time. The omelets barely had anything in them. The front desk staff did evrything they could to console us, bless their hearts. They were very sweet, the one bright spot.

« A great discovery »

This hotel is a gem and one highly recommended. The facility, the staff and location makes it one of the best we encountered during our 16 day trip from Ft. Lauderdale to New York and return. One should consider staying for at least a few days to fully utilize the hotel facilities and enjoy this wonderful area on the country.

« Best Western mildew »

First time I have ever rejected a room upon arrival. We were placed in building 2 and the room smelled of mildew and pet odor. The 2nd room we were offered in the same building smelled of mildew. This was just after the heavy rains that flooded parts of SC. We hoped that running the air conditioner in the room would alleviate the smell, but it just got worse as our three day stay went on. The air conditioner did nothing to draw the moisture from the room which felt damp and clammy. Room is tired. Bed lumpy with pillow top thrown on it. Carpet is old and contributed to the smell. The ceiling was oddly warped. There was a methane odor always present in the unkempt parking area. The pool looked okay, touted as the largest pool in Charleston, but our plans did not include pool time. Breakfast was okay. On the first day our breakfast companions had hoodies, skull and neck tattoos, and scowls. The next two days we saw a lot of people who were working in the area, (including flooding abatement) though very few tourists. 3 miles from the historic district must be as the crow flies. The traffic is heavy on this road comprised mainly of car dealerships. Road closures from the bad weather made our trip from Charleston back here the first day just over one hour due to all sorts of merging traffic. I brought up my concern about the damp smelly room once more upon our departure. The staff there looked as if they didn't understand what I was talking about. I was told I should have booked a pool view room. I didn' t care about a pool view, but I did expect a standard, clean, comfortable, not smelly room. As it was my first time to this area, I thought that maybe these were normal conditions, but our further travels here convinced us that this building is substandard. While we were away from home, our dehumidifier in our carpeted basement malfunctioned and leaked a large amount of water into our carpet. We returned home to the same smell we left behind at this hotel. We fixed it. So should the Sweet Water Best Western. We were partially compensated for our dissatisfaction.

Great place to stay.... We boarded a carnival cruise from Charlestown. The best western provided free shuttles to and from the pier and kept our car for the week. They dropped us off at the boat and we're waiting on us when we debarked. Definitely recommend this package.

« Ok for a Best Western »

It's a Best Western. This was a clean hotel for several days with the Red Cross and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was a BW breakfast. Not a home cooked meal or the $30 ritz breakfast. Rooms were clean every night with clean towels and supplies. What more can you ask for.

« Clean, Friendly Staff, Excellent Service!!! »

My family and I have had to stay here for an entire month last year because of a fire in our home, and now we are in between homes and had a couple of weeks before we can move into our new home and we wouldn't have chosen any other hotel! Everyone here is so friendly and helpful!! The rooms are immaculate, the pool is clean, the breakfast is the best continental breakfast I've ever had, and the weekday breakfast bar lady, Carol, is THE SWEETEST!! Jenae and AJ have been more than accommodating to my families needs. I would rather stay here than anywhere else on this planet!! I've stayed in some very fancy hotels before and the service here is way better than any of those..it is truly a great place to stay! Also all of the ladies in housekeeping are great!!

« Front desk person , Adrianna , was nice ! »

We had a fabulous time before our cruise. The hotel was just right for parking our car, while cruising. The hotel was redone . I slept like a rock! The bed and sheets were comfortable. We stayed on the first floor next to pool. The morning breakfast was good. The shuttle picked us up and carried us to the port. All that was included in the price. We bought ahead the shuttle back to the hotel. It was 10$/person and included our luggage. Really a great hotel to park and cruise!
