The hotel has a great location, just a short walk to many of Bergen's attractions. We had 3 couples touring Norway, with Bergen being the beginning and ending destination. We had 3 rooms booked for each. When we arrived, they couldn't find the second booking of rooms! The matter was resolved within an hour but was very nerve racking. Since we had 3 rooms all booked at the same time and rate, it was unusual that there was such differences in the room sizes. The rooms were clean, although had problems with the TV in one room. The noise level was very quiet for being so close to the harbour area. Staff was helpful scheduling taxi service when we were leaving.
This place is filthy. Do not stay here. It is definitely not worth the money. Pros: Close to the city center, without too much of the noise. The entrance door is very beautiful. The stairs spiral in an elegant way. They have a semi "pub" for quite drinking in the evening. They don't serve any food, but they do have cider, beer and wine. It is cute. Staff are willing to help, albeit grudgingly. Staff are somewhat rude sometimes, but they are definitely helpful. There is actually something about the staff that I like a lot. Cons: IT IS DIRTY!!! Street is somewhat clean, but it is still a city street that looks like a city street. The hotel manager or staff must be used to the dirt outside because they do not clean the trash directly outside the hotel entrance. You have to step over it to reach the door, and the same trash is there for days. This doesn't make sense since the door is so pretty. Also, they don't like to clean the rooms. The receptionist said that they clean every three days. Therefore, they have a small door hanger on the wall, stating that your room will not be cleaned unless you hang the sign on the door. I saw this sign the first night, and I hung it on my door each day. My room was still not cleaned. Our group of four had three separate rooms, and none of the rooms were cleaned, and when cleaned, were not properly cleaned. They give you new towels and additional toilet paper. But they absolutely WILL NOT change your sheets, sweep the floor or wipe anything. If you have crumbs or hair on the bed before they clean, you will still have hair and crumbs on the bed after they clean. If you left your breakfast tray on the table before they clean, your breakfast tray will still be on the table after they clean. (So if you leave your breakfast tray in your room at 7am, hang the green sign to alert them that you want your room cleaned, the breakfast tray will still be on the table in your room when you return from your tour at 4pm). If you have dirt on the floor from your hiking shoes before they clean, you will still have dirt on the floor from your hiking shoes after they clean. I only had a completely clean room once after I sent an email to management. It went back to being poorly cleaning the next day. This gets very annoying because you leave early in the morning for a tour or shopping. You put the green sign on the door. You come back to relax, and the room is just dirty. You might as well get an Airbnb for half the price. This place is definitely not worth a consideration. I attached some pictures, but I really wish I thought about taking pictures earlier. Do not stay here.
This hotel is simply amazing! The location is great, just one street away from Bryggen. The rooms are very clean and well kept. Our room had a motorized bed which can be raised to the ceiling in order to make more space in the room. Floor area is increased drastically giving more living space. Try to book a room with such a bed! The staff is so friendly and helpful, they make you feel at home. Breakfast was nice, everything was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended and would definitely be our choice if we're ever back in Bergen.
The Bergen Harbour Hotel is located in the ideal location in Bergen - walking distance to every attraction. We could easily walk to all the meeting points for our various day tours fom Bergen, and to museums, restaurants, the harbor, and the Mount Floyen funicular. This hotel is a great base for a trip to Bergen. Also, the staff members were kind and caring, which made the hotel feel like a home away from home.
The hotel feels like a lottery—you might get a reasonably sized room or a very small one, and you won't know until you check in. The price seems irrelevant. We were two people checking in at the same time, on the same booking and with the same room category, yet we received completely different rooms—one large, one very small. The smaller room had barely any space to move, no desk, a charging outlet placed awkwardly in the middle of the bed area, and an extremely small sink. This was at a premium price. We will definitely choose somewhere else next time we visit Bergen.
Great hotel very convenient location, friendly and welcoming staff, very clean, good breakfast choice, very enjoyable experience Definitely recommend
This is an outstanding property well located in old Bergen. Irene was most gracious and room 508 was perfect. I would rate this property 5 stars were it not for the fact that I feel that I was unreasonably forced to pay for an empty room for 1 night. I made a non-refundable booking with full payment on 29 April 2025 for two nights 21 & 22 March, 2026. On 21 September, I requested that the booking for 21 March be moved to 3 April because KLM did not have an available flight arriving on 21 March. I was not asking for a refund. My request was to simply move one night booking (21 March) to another night (3 April). I was still paying for 2 nights. The request was made 6 months prior to the booking so the hotel would lose nothing. I was even willing to pay a change of booking fee. Management refused to do so. As a result, I was forced to pay for an empty room on 21 March. I feel that was a bad business decision. Because of this, I therefore booked another hotel for April 3 and my daughter booked another hotel for 21 March and 3 April.
The location is excellent: Everything downtown within walking distance. Room (508) had a very nice view overlooking the Fish Market. Surprisingly quiet, ( mid-week stay,) for such central surroundings. Nice breakfast, charming atmosphere in the gastro pub, and service minded and friendly staff. Value for money. Also, had a nice discount , (20 %) for a fair meal in the nearby Harbour Cafe/ Vågen by showing our hotel key card. Tip for parking: If you don't mind a 15 minutes' walk, ByGarasjen Parking is NOK 140;- /24 hrs - which is 1/3 less the price of the nearby parking houses. Would definitely like to come back to Bergen Harbour hotel next time in Bergen.
The location is terrific. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is wonderful with a nice variety of offerings. Although the rooms are rather compact, they are well appointed and efficiently designed to provide a comfortable stay.
A great location just one block back from harbour and really quiet. Beautiful old building with simple modern scandi style rooms. Fantastic and generous breakfast buffet and it was nice to have access to a coffee machine when we took a break in the afternoon.

Stayed in a Superior King room. Exceptionally disappointing. Bare minimum. Was given a "Swamp Cooler" to try to cool the room since it was very hot outside. Instructions from middle-aged female employee on how to use the machine was "to fill the machine with water and ice, turn the dial and push the button -- you'll figure it out". She was very curt and exceptionally stingy on providing the ice needed for the machine. At one point she told me to go to the restaurant next door to get ice. On a positive note, the hotel is in a great location but the street was very noisy. Needed to keep the windows open in order to get some air circulating in the room. Additionally, the mini-refrigerator was not cold at all. Did not have a good experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bergen harbour hotel, we were warmly welcomed upon arrival and provided with recommendations for parking and food in Bergen. We found the room to be adequately sized, and we found the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but had all the requirements, although the shower did not stop water from making its way throughout the bathroom. We also had breakfast with our stay, and that we found to be sufficient for what we needed, a good range of warm food and also fruit, cereals, meat and cheese. All in all, a nice stay albeit relatively expensive. The location of the hotel was also fantastic, centrally located and close to all amenities. We enjoyed the proximity to all of the sights we wanted to see and made our stay in Bergen much easier.

We had a really lovely stay — thank you! The room was spotlessly clean and well appointed with everything we needed. It feels like the hotel is run with a lot of care and pride, which we really appreciated. The front desk offered genuine hospitality and she made every encounter a pleasure. The breakfast was excellent — fresh, with a great variety. You've created a very welcoming and warm atmosphere, and it truly felt like a family-run place in the best way. We would definitely stay again and will happily recommend it to friends. Thanks again for everything!

Awesome location near everything! Nice reception & nice room. My room had a great view, so could sit and people watch. The breakfast was good and had many choices. So many excellent outdoor dining places easily accessible by walking. Would highly recommend.

Had a wonderful stay at Bergen Harbour Hotel! The location is absolutely 5 stars—you can walk everywhere, which made exploring Bergen so easy. I originally booked a single room but was pleasantly surprised with a double room with a harbour view—such a lovely treat for a birthday stay! The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable (pillows were a bit too soft for me, but that's personal preference), and the hotel had a warm, stylish boutique feel. The only small downside was that the shower door didn't close properly, so the floor got soaked—but it wasn't a big issue. Despite being in a central location, noise wasn't a problem with the windows closed. The hotel itself was very quiet—I barely saw anyone apart from in the breakfast area, which was cozy with a small but tasty selection (the bread was especially delicious!). The staff were friendly and helpful, making the stay even better. I'd definitely stay here again on my next trip to Bergen!
This was the second half of our Norway trio having spent the first week in Oslo. The hotel has an excellent location as far as restaurants, attractions in central Bergen and the harbor. The furthest distances were no more than 15 minutes and the bus was minutes away. Our standard twin room was small but clean. Showers are a bit tricky with plexiglass divide. The staff was wonderfully accommodating. There was a laundry in the building. Breakfast was provided. We found much to admire in this of Norway.
Thank you very much for your great review after your visit to Bergen Harbor Hotel. We greatly appreciated this. We naturally hope to see you back at our hotel soon again. Kind regards Bergen Harbour Hotel
We had booked a Superior room, and yet it was so small it made me wonder if we were really given a Superior. I cannot imagine what a Standard room would be. The closet, safe, coffee maker were all pushed into one corner of the room, which means only the person on that side of the room can access it. We had a nice view, but the curtains were hung around a long circular rod and could not be moved back and forth. Terribly designed. Hardly any space around the sink to keep your toiletries. Amenities provided are minimal. No bath mats! This may be the only hotel I have ever stayed in that does not have bath (or shower) mats. Even the receptionist agreed that should have them, but they don't. She suggested using an extra bath towel, which is such a gross idea. To think that my bath towel could have been used as a shower mat by someone else; yuck. Breakfast is fine, but nothing special by European standards. All in all, we were not impressed by the hotel and did not feel we got value for our money, even though it is fairly clean, beds are comfortable, the location is good and staff is courteous. The management is cutting too many corners and it shows.
Thank you very much for your constructive review after your visit to the Bergen Harbor Hotel. We are of course sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. We take your views into account so we can deliver a better product in the future. Despite your experience, we hope to see you back at the hotel again. Kind regards Bergen Harbour Hotel.
