"Close to river and city."
Good location for exploring. Clean hotel. Good breakfast. Good price. Streets were confusing for google. Lots of uneven areas. Wish European hotels had wash cloths. Very helpful staff. Wish France's restaurants served earlier dinner. 7pm is too late to digest food. 5pm would be better.
"Perfect place to enjoy your stay in Auxerre"
Staff at Maxine could not have been nicer. Great location to explore in foot and easy drive to see surrounding sites. Choose a room with a river view- it is worth it. Breakfast is huge and has great variety.
"Beautiful place, lovely staff"
The location of the hotel is handy and on a very pretty street. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are very well equipped, clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Breakfast is very good. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure guests have a great stay. For instance, the chef makes sure you have all you need for breakfast. At reception, everybody is smiling and friendly. It was a lovely experience and we hope to go back soon. We went with 2 small babies and even though it is never easy to travel with babies, they did everything they could to ensure our stay was easy. It worked and we are very thankful! I highly recommend this hotel for the place, the location and the lovely staff! It's a 10/10!
"John H"
A very pleasant stay, the staff were excellent and cheerful. Breakfasts were above average. The bedroom was comfortable and clean, our view over the quayside was fabulous. It's a pity the hotel doesn't serve meals, however there are plenty of restaurant
"Another visit to Auxerre"
Hotel Le Maxine is a super place in a medieval village and should be a must-go-place if you are travelling to the south France or back to Calais and home. It has everything you want so take a chance and visit this lovely place.
"Nice hotel, well located, some maintenance issues. All things considered, pretty good."
There are plusses and minuses to this hotel. It is well located...right on the river, a short walk up the hill to the center of town, close to some good restaurants, etc. . It offers a good breakfast. There is parking at the hotel, although sometimes you have to get a staff member to move someone else's car in order to get yours. The staff is very pleasant and helpful, and every staff member we ran across spoke English. Our room was good sized, reasonably well equipped, and faced the river. Other reviewers have mentioned noise from the street in front of the hotel, but that was not a problem for us. Our room had double windows that were completely soundproof, and the room was air conditioned...so we had no noise issues. Overall, the room was fine, but nothing special. But this is not a 4 star hotel. The interior was nice, but not elegant, and it felt a bit weary. There were some maintenance issues with our room...a missing lamp shade that was not replaced, a towel hook that was pulling out of the door, and a bathroom vanity with a broken marble top surrounding the sink. One amusing incident was that we asked the hotel if they could do some laundry for us. To send laundry out would mean paying by the piece, and it would have been quite expensive and taken time. But they said that could just do our laundry in a washing machine that the hotel used. That was fine with us, since we were just washing hiking clothes, etc. The only problem with that solution was that the person who was put in charge of doing our laundry neglected to dry it after washing it, so everything came back wet. That was not a problem...we just spread that laundry around our room and let it dry. But that would not have happened at a 4 star hotel. All that being said, we thought that this hotel was a good choice for Auxerre. We'd go back.
"Great little Hotel"
Great little hotel in a good location overlooking the river. Close to the restaurants near the town centre. Easy access and parking. All staff very polite and helpful. The room and bed were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend.
"Disappointing experience"
We booked months ago direct with the hotel, and booked a larger upgraded room with a view on an upper floor. Reception staff were confused: they could not find our booking, then thought we were only staying one night rather than the 3 we had booked and paid for, tried to resell us breakfast we had booked and paid for. We were offered the first floor, small room on the road. We were not told about the music festival outside our window each night that lasted until midnight (not helpful when you are jetlagged). On a positive note: breakfast is excellent with much choice presented in a lovely surrounds. Location of the hotel was also convenient and overlooked the river which was lovely.
"Super"
Usual Best Western excellent standard, Good sized twin bed room at rear (quiet) with great bath/shower room with aircon. Usual excellent breakfast choice with real milk. Beautiful location and private secure parking. Really good value for money.
"Be Careful where you Park!"
We turned up in the evening following an eventful drive down to Auxerre and found the car park behind the hotel full. I was then asked to use the car park beside the hotel. A sullen youth then told me to wait whilst he moved some cars around to make space. Unfortunately, the electronic gate closed and smashed a rear light on my hire car. The manageress said all the right things and promised to pay for the damage but has since ignored all my emails. This is shameful behaviour!! As for the stay, it was obviously tainted by our parking experience but we were disappointed. The City view was the view of a wall and the room was too hot. We certainly would not stay here again.
"GREAT LOCATION BUT POOR SERVICE"
The main problem for us was the unfriendly unhelpful young man at the desk doing virtually everything himself. The room luckily was at the back so missed the noisy front rooms . They have winter duvets on the beds in 32c degree temperatures meaning the ac unit has to work overtime. My phone didn't work as the wires were out at the bottom so when I went to reception the young man again just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing... My internet did not work saying the meteor system had a virus. Again he just shrugged his body and said and tried to do nothing for me..A very rude and unhelpful member of staff indeed. They only have CNN international as the one English speaking TV channel. The next day the helpful young lady kindly refunded my dog and car park charge as a gesture but this best western hotel is way below their normal standards contrasted with the fantastic hotel they run in Troyes. Breakfast too was certainly not worth the money so avoided this.
"Great time in Auxerre"
We had a wonderful visit in this great hotel by the river. We had a nice room, AC, and comfy linens. We sat outside and have some of the local wines( with help from the bar)-‘d watched the fireworks for Bastille day. Everyone was very Friendly and helpful. Great value for the room too and an excellent location.
"Very comfortable and pleasant."
We had a comfortable room, and enjoyed the extensive range of tasty breakfast foods. It is in a pleasant situation by the river and within reasonable distance from town. I would be happy to recommend this hotel.
"Perfect location & very comfortably hotel"
Stayed for one night with my partner. lovely location and the room was very comfortable. Large bathroom, very comfortable bed and great view over the river. The breakast was simple but very good. loved the option to have fresh juice. Staff friendly and efficient. available parking at the back for €10 euros a night.
"Great Hotel in a lovely location"
A really pleasant hotel. Great location right on the river and very easy to walk around the town. The hotel itself has a little parking and has a small bar and reception area. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Housekeeping needs a little attention as we had no toilet paper in our room , nor a remote for the TV, but it didn't really bother us as there were ample tissues and we didn't want to watch Television anyway. But it is the little things that count and it doesn't take much to do a final check before guests arrive. The beds are extremely comfortable. Minibar well stocked , although we were only given 1 bottle of complimentary water between us. Only 1 black coffee sachet (we both drink black coffee so no choice but to go out and get our own coffee!) and 1 milky coffee sachet. I sort of had a feeling they had stocked it for a single guest rather than a couple - but I could be wrong. The town itself is amazing. Well worth a good wander around. We arrived on a Monday and as the hotel does not have a restaurant of its own, there wasn't much choice of local restaurants that were open. It might be worth investigating restaurants before you arrive, because the establishment we eventually settled on was totally appalling ! It has been a long time since we have not been able to actually eat the meal offered! Especially in France! HA! It did give us a giggle. Overall, I would stay here again as the location is so good and the rooms are very comfortable, even without loo paper!
"Good quality hotel in Auxerre"
This hotel has a great location overlooking the river and walking distance to the sights. Rooms are well maintained. Breakfast was good. On site parking for a fee. Staff were friendly. Would stay here again.
"Traditional Outside, Modern Inside"
We picked this hotel mainly because of its location, on the riverfront and away from the touristy crowds in the center of the old city. It turned out to be a great choice. If you arrive by train (as we did) it is less than a 10 minute walk. The hotel is in a handsome traditional building right on the riverfront. Inside everything is modernized, right down to ultra high tech bathroom fixtures and very fast free WiFi. You still just 5 min walk from the sights of the center of old town. Choose a room on the back and you will find it very quiet. Service is pleasant, breakfast is great (but not included).
