Enjoyed out stay, the room was great. Employees were helpful and friendly. The free breakfast in the morning was very good with lots of choices and very clean and tidy. It is in a nice area and has easy access to the highway. This was not out first time and will not be our last.
Solid choice. Right on I 80 but still very quiet, Front desk staff was excellent. My room was very clean and comfortable. I just had to open the window for a few minutes to get in some fresh air. Bed let me had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was basic buty well stocked. Will look to stay here again for sure if back in the area
Very nice room, great AC, hot water, pet friendly, nice staff, good breakfast, nice pool but not heated , hot tub, close to grocery store and paces to eat, just off highway but not noisy in the room, comfortable bed, close to town. Highly recommend.
I have stayed at this particular Best Western at times over 20 years. With the new improvements to the rooms, you get a great deal for the money, with breakfast, pool, jacuzzi all included….I paid 162.00 for a lovely, very clean King size bed room. Staff at front desk extremely friendly and helpful.
Friendly and professional stall made me feel welcome. Super clean and quiet! Great rates. Highly recommend.
We had a block of rooms for a wedding. The staff was super helpful even dealing with some last minute changes. The rooms were nice, breakfast was good. They had delicious cookies in the afternoon. Our stay was wonderful!
Clean, convenient, comfortable & economical - we like this hotel and the updated lobby. We always stay here when we're in town visiting family.
Windi was great and found us a great room at a wonderful price. The room was clean and perfect for the two us. We were able to walk to dinner one even and breakfast the other. Perfect location and close to everything. Peaceful stay except for the guy upstairs stomping around at midnight.
Great stay. Good location. Quiet. Close to stores and restuarants. Convenient. Pool. Staffs very nice.
This is a good hotel, but the freeway noise in the rooms is too much. The single pane windows do not help make it acceptable. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was reasonable and served in a comfortable room.
Great hotel overall, food and stores near by city has a home town feel and this hotel fit right in, great staff clean rooms and housekeeper do a great job! All staff were pleasant to speak with and help with any questions I had, great complimentary breakfast and pool looked so clean and nice, would recommend this hotel any day!
Good location just east of Auburn. Easy on/off I-80. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Microwave and small refrigerator in room. Better-than-usual continental breakfast. Would stay here again next time we're in the area.
This is definitely an older but very well maintained Best Western. We've seen every side of this chain, from sketchy to brand new and we were very comfortable here. The housekeeping staff does a great job…our room was spotless. The heat/air conditioning is newer and was very quiet but did a great job. Breakfast room was clean and well stocked. We'd definitely stay here again when we're in Auburn.
There is no carpet in the rooms, just hard surface faux wood. If you're on the first floor you can hear every footstep and piece of luggage rolled across the floor above. It will keep you from going to sleep and will wake you up prematurely. Otherwise, it was clean and satisfactory. I would not stay there again because I did not get a good night's sleep.
Spotless clean large quiet room with a grassy area for the dog. Great jacuzzi. All the amenities in the room. We usually stay at Marriott properties but they now charge a ridiculous $150 per night for a pet. This hotel had a very reasonable $15 and there was no evidence any pet had ever been in the room. Marriott just lost a Titanium Elite customer.
Comfortable hotel. Passing through town, stopped for one night and enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Room was large and check out at noon is a treat. Walking distance to a popular breakfast restaurant and a market.
Great location, nice pool, breakfast included but limited, internet was nonfunctional, over all it was a friendly place to stay with an excellent staff, centrally located in the Auburn community and need local restaurants and shopping.
I was pleasantly impressed with these accommodations. The room had everything I needed, super clean and, best of all, the bed was so comfortable. Lots of pressure for an invigorating shower! The grounds are very well kept which makes it a pleasure to just walk around. The smiling staff is extremely helpful and anticipatory of one's needs. Coffee is really good and always available. Cozy breakfast room. Raley's grocery store and restaurants within walking distance. This will be my go place to stay each time I visit Auburn and the Sacramento area!
Windy at the front desk did outstanding work. Breakfast area was spotless, opened on time, and had plenty of choices. The excellent housekeeping staff kept the room spotless. The outdoor pool was well-maintained.
The room is clean, the water is hot (sometimes to hot actually), the room cleaning is great, the check in was easy and quick, and the free breakfast is simple and easy. Not a grand fair but simple and free and easy. I reserved a King size bed and was very comfy. The bed had four pillows, plenty of lights in the room, desk and sitting chair for comfy sitting. The have a laundry room and ice machine. The hotel is worth the price and stop over. They even have a nice walking area garden to hang out besides the pool…
It's my yearly 4th of July vacation for my dog's fireworks. Freak them out and so I need a wonderful accommodations for my pets. And I wanted the pool for me in the daytime and a hot breakfast for me And it's perfect, perfect for animal lovers that one at any time of the year, but especially fourth of july when you want to get away from the fireworks
Stayed in this hotels as they allow dogs. It was going to be over 100 degrees for several days and I do not have a/c. So I decided to stay in a hotel with a/c. I originally made a reservation for two nights but decided the 2nd day to extend for a third night. I called down to the ofc and Missy said someone was on the computer so she couldn't check the price. I was on hold for five + minutes still with no price. It was taking far to long so I asked for Missy to call my cell and leave a message. I couldn't believe Missy didn't know how much rooms where, isn't that her job. You want to always be prepared for your guests. So I was stating in the same room. At 1pm the next day the Manager, Cindy Essley came knocking at my door, I just got out of the shower. I answered the door and the Manager said I needed to go to the ofc to sign in again. No one from the ofc told me that I needed to sign in again and I spoke to two different gals in the ofc. So I said I would come up as soon as possible. I wanted to take my dogs out 1st. As I was heading back to the room from taking the dog out my key wouldn't work, apparently I was locked out with my dogs in 103 degree weather and the only way to get to the ofc is through an asphalt parking lot. I carried one dog and ran with both of them to the ofc. I was so upset that this happened, my poor dogs paws, way to hot (120 degrees) to be walking or running on to the office. I walk in and say I cant believe you locked me out, Cindy Essley, Manager said well you didn't check in for the third day, and I repeat I never was told I needed to the day prior. I said I cant believe I had to run to the ofc with my dogs being locked out and Cindy said well then you don't bring your dogs to the hotel. At that point I was livid, no way did I want to stay another night. I thought I was a guest at this hotel, not sure what kind of people there are used to but I was in Management for 35 yrs and would of never treated my customers in this way. I strongly suggest a lot more training. I will give a shot out to the lady who works evenings. She was always helpful and cared about the property as I noticed her walking around making sure everything was in order. She knows what she is doing.
This hotel located right off of highway offers a clean getaway for you and your pet. Even though it is right off of the highway, road noise is negligible. If you aren't interested in seeing all that Auburn has to offer, you can lie by the pool, sit in hot tub, or sit on grassy area shaded by trees. You can walk south of the hotel 1/2 block and find a strip mall with a Raleys, and numerous restaurants. If you walk north of the hotel 1/2 block, Awful Annie's is a must try breakfast/lunch restaurant. Walk another 1/2 block and Ikeda's is an excellent fruit stand/ hamburger diner. The complimentary breakfast offered by the hotel is plentiful…make sure you get there early because it closes at 10:00am.
We enjoyed the one night at the Auburn Best Western: the staff were very friendly and helpful, the swimming pool was great to have given 100 degree days, and the location was perfect: close to a super market, downtown Aubrun, nearby restaurants and recreation, and close to the freeway. Check out is 12pm, which we also found helpful. Good breakfast to boot! The price is right....
This is a great place to stay for visitors to the Auburn area, or those who need to rest while on their way to other destinations. It's conveniently located near stores, restaurants, gas stations, and the freeway. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly.
My room was clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable --- I seldom sleep well in a hotel, and this was not the case at the Golden Key -- so comfortable. Perhaps the best part of my stay was the water pressure in the shower! While it may be an odd thing to comment on, other travelers know that this is not always the case. Very pleasantly surprised.
Ive stayed in 5 star resorts and this is obviously not 5 stars. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and comfortability of the room. The bed was plenty comfortable for me too. The breakfast was continental which is ok by me. The grounds were obviously well kept.
Stayed here 4 nights while visiting family in the area. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, bed was comfortable and breakfast was fine. Everything seemed to be well maintained and, although we didn't use it, the pool looked inviting. Would definitely stay here again.
I've stayed at this Best Western several times and it never fails to meet my expectations. Clean room, very friendly/helpful staff and always a good breakfast! It's a good please to stay if you want to go to Truckee / Tahoe.....it's cheaper than if you stay in or closer to these areas. Fits my budget and my expectations.
Hotel is off freeway, next to tons of shopping and food. Pretty close to downtown too. Front desk was really nice, friendly banter, blond with short hair, absolutely great at her job, fast check in. Room was large, clean, fridge in room, comfy bed, and you can't beat the rate, very affordable. I'll definitely be back in the future!
Windy, Cindy, Martha and Jeff thanks for the wonderful experience. In spite of wildfire evacuations from neighboring towns and smoke-filled air, my stress level evaporated whenever I returned back to my hotel room. Breakfast was wonderful, and the staff was very pleasant. Will advise others to stay at Best Western Golden Key.
We booked here because of a mandatory evacuation due to a wildfire. It was so stressful but the staff was incredibly caring. The room was fabulous, clean, and quiet. The breakfast was always ready earlier than promised and coffee was hot. We will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.
Great price for a clean, nice hotel. Front desk staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I love the location, as its close to great restaurants. Pool area was clean. Breakfast was one of the best ive seen at a Best Western.
Standard BW. Easy off, easy on freeway. Located next to local iconic restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff. Accommodated our request for early check-in. Located near other stores if items needed. Good location for our needs.
While traveling across country this was a very pleasant stay. The room and bed were comfortable and the breakfast selection was very good and the breakfast room was very nice. All of the staff were friendly and pleasant.
We loved this hotel! Location was great, room was large, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was great. We loved the pool and hot tub, but I wish the hours were expanded a bit (closing at 9 pm in the summer was too early.) We would definitely stay here again! Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, too!!
Best Western has provided me with an upgrade experience. The shower was lux in safety and provided all of the necessities without a frustrating moment: loved the high and low soap dish, tiled shower, curved shower curtain, two safety grab bars placed for good use, high shower head and the water felt very nice, ample towels, clear and color coded hot and cold water handle. It's the little details that made a really nice shower experience. Thank you.
Clean and updated rooms. Well-maintained pool and generous breakfast. Friendly and professional staff. Loved having two sinks in the dressing area. We will definitely stay here again if we return to the area.
Love this Auburn hotel!! Always clean rooms and great showers. The rooms are comfortable, and love the TV options to watch our favorite shows. Everyone goes out of their way to make your stay wonderful. Breakfast is great and the coffee is really good! . AND the price of the rooms is very affordable!! NO complaints!
This hotel was clean and the staff eager to welcome and help out any way they could. It has a free breakfast. The breakfast was ok, not great. But I came to sleep after a wedding. I recommend this hotel.
I Travel all over for work and stay in 6 different BWs regularly. this is by far my favorite. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly and efficient. They do all the extra little things that make your stay pleasant.
We were attending a wedding nearby and needed an overnight stay. We were so glad we chose this hotel. Very nice staff-checked us in a bit early-lovely breakfast- room was very clean and comfortable. Have no complaints at all.
We stayed at Best Western Auburn and really enjoyed it. We checked prices and the Holiday Inn Express wanted $258 on a Sunday. We stayed here for $125 and truthfully it was ever bit as good! The room had laminate flooring, fridge, micro, very well maintained and clean. All the ammenities are new and updated. I feel these other properties like HIE, Marriot, are ripping people off. We paid $230 at Courtyard a couple nights ago in Roseville and did not even get a continental breakfast! Never again. A few people complain about road noise here, but we didn't see a problem. Nice staff, free cookies, water when you check in. I deffinately recommend!
Stayed one night to attend a local event. The room was clean. I liked that it had laminate flooring instead of carpeting. You are near a highway so you do get road noise. Staff was friendly. Didn't try breakfast.
For the price I guess I just expected more. The lady at the front desk was on her phone didn't even look up to help us both at check in and check out. I had to stay something. Floors were dirty, whole in walls, we had two guys follow us out of the breakfast area back to our room and we immediately got in our car they tried to open the door of a couple rooms and then we're looking into car windows. I was terribly disappointed in every aspect of our trip. It's not worth the price at all.
Good value in a central location for foothill exploration or family visits. Very clean updated and refreshed rooms. Pool, hot tub, small park for a picnic or barbecue. Staff are efficient and a pleasure to deal with. When we visited many other guests appeared to be contract workers who left early and were back and settled by the time we returned from dinner. Almost like having the place to ourselves! Only suggestion for improvement would be to somehow minimize freeway noise to better enjoy the small park. Freeway noise not a problem inside.
Very clean, very comfortable, and staff is always efficient and friendly. An added bonus...lovely plantings of shrubs, perennials, and other flowers. So attractive... one feels this place is cared for lovingly.
The Front Desk staff is friendly, polite and offers water to take to your room. The breakfast room is clean, orderly and offers a wide variety of food. The rooms are fresh, clean and beds are so comfortable.
The room felt super clean and the staff was very helpful from the moment we walked in to check in. Free cookies and water were given to us as soon as we walked in. Breakfast was great so many options and was not crowded very quiet.
The pictures on the web site are not accurate. I received a upstairs room with nasty carpets they are playing a bait and switch. Some rooms do have the nicer floors but I'm not sure what the percentage is. The bed was less than desirable. Bring on the canned response about how I'm sorry that our hotel did not meet your expectations and please give us another try and we'll try and meet your expectations. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Just put up the accurate pictures and be honest with how your hotel looks!
This is our home away from home when visiting family in the area. Its perfect location on the way up to or down from the mountains to the San Francisco Bay Area is enhanced by nearby gas stations and walking access to restaurants, groceries, and coffee shops. Perfect for early bird travelers because the breakfast room is typically open before dawn and lasts for several hours with both hot and cold selections, often with a personal touch like fresh grapes or cut fruit. Well-lighted for safety, easy parking, and internet access. Right off I-80 but quiet because it is set back from the frontage road. We especially like the refrigerator/microwave amenities and comfortable bed - also the well cared-for pool and hot tub. Especially nice is that staff are welcoming and always available to help. Great place to stay!
We cannot understand why this motel is ranked so highly in Trip Advisor. We stayed in a ground floor room on 12/22/21. It was gross to be barefoot on the carpet because it was so old and filthy. There was one working ice machine at the far end of the property. It is on a busy road next to the busy highway, and so there is no peace and quiet. I had to take a shower in the morning with NO HOT WATER! Case closed. The staff was nice.
Traveling to my daughter's for Christmas I needed to break my trip with an overnight stay after crossing Donner Summit during a snow storm. Golden Key was the perfect drop off spot. I travel with my miniature schnauzer. I stay at Best Western's because they welcome both of us. This stay was no different. And they have a grassy area where I was able to walk her and not have to encourage her to do her business on gravel, an area with weeds, the edge of the pavement or worry about the landscaping. There's close access to restaurant/places to eat and fuel to get back on the road. If you are staying for several days for site seeing this may not be the best place for you as you will have noise from I-80. Gold Key is on my places to stay when traveling in the future.
Bed was comfortable and shower was quite large. Quiet rooms with up close parking for lower floor rooms. Friendly front office staff. Easy access to the interstate and local roads leading to the downtown area.
I have always had a great experience here (we started during 2020 here). Always clean and the staff are all wonderful. Always feel at home! From extra coffee to extra blankets, there is not much else we needed. The fact that our dog can come and travel is the best! Cost less to have him with us than to pay for pet sitting, would recommend to anyone!!
THis is a very good hotel. I should say it looks more like a motel than hotel. It is not as nice as the other Best Western I have been to...Doors are facing outside, so the it is a bit noisy as people can walk past your door. Cannot leave window shades open, due to lack of privacy. Room is decent, but a bit dated. However, great breakfast, both hot and cold. The best part is breakfast opens early and for someone who has to rush to the seminar early in the morning, the breakfast hours are great. Staff is awesome especially Serena! Auburn is a small city, so the hotel selections are limited.
This is the second time we have stayed at this place and were pleased once again. The room was clean and comfortable though I now have a preference for floors that are vinyl not carpet because of cleanliness. But this one seemed ok. The shower and bed we're good. Lots of counter space in the bath sink area. Good TV. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast had good eat in and eat out options. The dining room was busy so we got food to go. Second floor might be preferable.
This is the 4th time we have stayed at this hotel and it gets better every time. We were impressed that they now have solar panels and excellent communication about not having the laundry done so often. Rooms always clean and furniture in decent repair. Loved, loved loved that the shower water comes on hot so there is no waste in running until it gets cold. Appreciated the efforts to be kinder to the environment. Also walking distance to the shopping center to easily pick up groceries/coffee, etc.
Great location! Near so many great places to eat and a small market. The pool and Spa looked nice, though we didn't use either one. Rooms were clean. Comfy bed and good thermostat. Only drawback was the street noise was pretty loud at times.
Since first staying at the Best Western Golden Key, Auburn in 1998, this wonderful hotel has always provided outstanding customer service. Hotel Staff is efficient, compassionate and always takes the time to listen to their customers and provide the best service available. Rooms are always very clean with high quality linens, efficient heating and air system, excellent lighting, well maintained furniture; refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and supplies, easy to access internet service, and prompt response from front desk, maintenance and housekeeping when needed. Adequate, safe parking is always available. The complimentary breakfast is outstanding with a wide variety of selections to accommodate hotel guests. Front Desk Staff are always friendly and efficient at check in, check out and in answering questions. Rates are very fair. This hotel is conveniently located off I-80 so a great place to stay for local business or personal trips as well as for travelers needing to stay overnight while on a longer trip. I truly look forward to my next stay in February 2022 and highly recommend the Best Western Golden Key, Auburn and their amazing Staff without reservation! Since the Covid Pandemic, Cindy, Hotel Manager and her Staff have gone above and beyond in implementing safety protocols to protect their guests from potential exposure. Carole. B., a long time, happy hotel guest
Do Not Go Here! Rude front desk girl Serina refused to let me leave and refund me after i called her right the way when we checked in to complain that this room smells like smoke. They had no other room. We had small child and no way we can stay there. She had no empathy, was giving me attitude, raised her voice at me, didnt want to give me her name. Unacceptable behavior! I am BW employee and feel ashamed that these kind of people work in this industry. I can't believe it has so many good reviews! Nasty garbage. This place is like motel 6 for twice the price. Outdated furniture, dirty old carpet, room smelled like smoke, paper thin walls. If i could give this place 0 i would.
This is an older place but very clean and comfortable rooms. There is a good selection of breakfast items. The front staff are pleasant and helpful. There are some good places to eat near by. Nice walking area.
Excellent value in Auburn. Clean, nicely updated. Like another reviewer, I really missed being able to just run the fan to get the sanitizer smell out of the room. Perhaps its a covid thing, but the rather intense air freshener is irritating to nose and throat, for me anyway. Not just here but in many hotels/motels. Its a plus there are windows that can be opened. Friendly efficient staff. I didn't find traffic noise a problem. One can hear adjoining room sounds a bit, and overhead walking. Didn't mind it.
My husband and I were needing a hotel that could accommodate our 75lb dog and two cats. Best Western was one of the only hotels that had a pet policy that could so we decided on this one in Auburn,CA. I am so glad that we did! The staff was incredibly friendly and the room was clean. The fee breakfast was also very good with a large variety. I am very happy that we stayed here and I will definitely be recommending it to others.
Our bed was comfortable, the shower was excellent, and the staff was courteous and efficient. I disagree with other reviewers who describe their room as quiet. The hotel is less than 50 yards from I-80 and its heavy truck traffic. There is no sound wall between the traffic and the hotel. When the A/C was running, it drowned the roar of the trucks. When it cycled off, the trucks woke us up. On this trip we stayed in three other hotels with Amana A/C units like the one here. The others all had a "constant fan" setting that provided steady white noise; the one here did not. Our room was halfway back in the building that's perpendicular to the freeway. Two other buildings are parallel to the freeway. The back one may be somewhat shielded by the front one from traffic noise.
We stayed here two nights. It was amazingly quiet. The hotel is old although they have done some updates. It is a typical original motor hotel. The room appeared to be clean. However, we happened to spill some water on the floor, so used some paper towels to wipe it up and the towels were black! Ugh. We then proceeded to wipe down the entire floor with similar results, including the bathroom which obviously should be thoroughly mopped/cleaned after each guest! Serious oversight in housekeeping. I did mention it to the front desk on departure, so hopefully this is something they will address.
You're on a work trip and needing to find a place where you can rest well knowing that you and your car are safe, have good concierge services that you can count on, clean interior and a good mattress that you can sleep on, all the while looking out to the methodically trimmed landscape or a clean swimming pool. What more can I ask for?
I would like to start by saying Windy, Brad, Lucas and all the housekeepers are exceptional workers and people!!! They make our stay here very comfortable and make us feel like family! Auburn CA best western is literally the best in town!!!! Thank you all so much for all the help with my family and I!!! The rooms are always clean and smell fresh... Comfy beds.. Wonderful water pressure and hot water!! Yummy breakfast choices including making your own waffles. Amazing staff and the pool is an amazing place to cool off!!! The AC pumps cold, very quiet on the inside regardless of the freeway being so close you don't hear it in your room. All I have to say is COME HERE if you love clean rooms and wonderful staff!!!
Windy at the front desk is so easy-going, kind and patient. I was very impressed with the room...much nicer than a comfort inn...a little smaller...but bathroom and floors were modern/ updated and didn't smell like that hotel room smell.
The Best Western Golden Key, Auburn CA is the perfect place to stay while in the Auburn Area or while travelling on the I-80 corridor to and from S.F. Bay Area or Reno direction. Conveniently located off I-80, walking distance to restaurants and stores. Clean, safe rooms, great amenities, wonderful breakfast, genuine concern for guests safety and comfort, ample parking, fair pricing. Easy internet access. Refrigerator and microwave, coffee maker and supplies in room.
This is a fine hotel for what it is. Reasonably priced, clean, well-kept. Not a bad breakfast either. Nice people. We've stayed here several times and never had a problem with noise (as noted in other reviews). Plenty of parking. Walk to Aweful Annie's - this is a great restaurant!
The workers have to stay twice a week in hotels. They like the check ins to be smooth and easy due to the tiredness of a hard days work. My boys like to get to a clean and peaceful hotel shower and sleep. They really enjoyed the wifi connection to connect with family when they are on the road.
nice place, easy access to shopping, food and freeway access. I am now using up my 200 characters. I do not like that I have to do have a minimum amount of characters. I am doing you a favor and your now making it more of a unpleasant experience
Pros: Location, Friendly staff, comfortable room, plentiful parking, pool/spa, wonderful nearby cafe (separate business, adjacent to lodge) Cons: Slightly older facility, but well maintained. COVID: take away breakfast
Worth every cent. The admin helped from the minute I arrived and new a lot of the surrounding areas. Rooms were very clean and had very good parking for big rigs and trailers. Pool was outdoor and did not have a heavy chlorine smell and was very clean. Paid a lot of attention to covid precautions and felt safe. Good neighborhood.
Easy check in and out. Room was very clean. My dogs enjoyed the grassy area right in front of my room. Breakfast list was shortened but tasty. Covid protocols were adhered to. I felt safe as a female traveling on my own with my pets.
Ask for Ian! He is a huge help when staying here. I would stay here again if ever went up to Auburn. I was able to get a early check in and a late checkout. Drove from Los Gatos Ca to Auburn with is about 3 hrs drive. Ian at front desk made it easy to check in and easily get into our room to quickly get ready for the wedding we were attending.
This was a pleasant motel to spend the night. We were travelling with two small dogs and had a very nice pet room. Love the laminate floors as all hotels should have laminate floors in a pet room. Room was very clean and everything worked. Nice lawn area for the dogs.
an older motel that has been upgraded, extremely neat and clean, grounds were immaculate, above average channel selection, on the old Lincoln Highway, a great place to stay, and next to Awful Annie's!
Really enjoyed this hotel. It is the old fashioned kind with 2 floors opening on to the outside but I felt very safe and comfortable. Room was nice, internet worked well and staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
Absolutely an excellent place for basic sleep and amenities. Staff very professional and courteous. Located in the heart of Gold Country. Restaurants near by and easy access to main highways. Will return to this hotel.
Since the Pandemic, I have found myself staying at Fairfield and Hampton Inn exclusively as rates have come down, esp. for seniors such as myself. In Auburn, I did not have this option, so we selected the Best Western Golden Key. I am no longer used to the motor hotel outside entrance layout, but my daughter actually liked it more. After many many years of this, I guess this is her impression of what a hotel is supposed to be like. The internet worked well here, the rooms were well stocked, and they were quite spacious. It was clean, maybe a bit rustic in terms of decor. The front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful. And the breakfast, for a Covid offering, was fantastic. They had little shopping bags with many items and you could even get a frozen egg and sausage burrito to microwave in your room. If you are in Auburn, this is a great place to stay.
The front desk staff was very nice. Check in and check out very very fast. The room was very clean. Nothing was broken and everything worked. The furniture is showing some aging but that's not a deal breaker for me. The wifi stayed connected the whole time, without interference. It was quiet at night and the bed was comfortable.
Considering COVID, the room was very clean and comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the parking lot is well lit, and the grab-n-go breakfast option was great. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
We stayed here for 2 nights. It's everything you would expect from a motel atmosphere. We stayed here because Auburn is an hour away from the ski resort, we were not sure how the weather was going to be. It's way cheaper to stay here than in Tahoe near the ski resorts. Had grab and go breakfast which was fine.. Everyone was nice, they cleaned the rooms every night which was nice. The only reason I gave poor sleep quality is because the people above us were really loud. Get an upstairs room if you don't want to hear people banging around all night.
This is one of the only places I've stayed that the staff was all so helpful and warm and welcoming. The breakfast was actually very nice considering the restrictions from covvid. There was a good variety and they didn't give you the bare minimum like most would expect. Even was offered soda at checkin which was definitely a first. After staying 2 nights we wanted a to rebook and I had some issues with my card but the front desk made some adjustments and took really good care of us. You can tell that taking care of their guests is a priority here
Stay at this motel was very pleasant and quiet. Friendly staff and adequate breakfast, since it was take-out only. Problems were fixed in a timely manner. It was a little more than we wanted to spend, but we would stay here again.
The place was clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool is small and cold but clean. Location is close to stores and food. The complimentary breakfast was a takeout bag, due to covid: choice of breakfast burrito or cereal, fruit, fruit juice, raisins, pastry, yogurt, granola bar. Coffee in the room. One of the better breakfast bags I've had.
This is a good stop; many restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance and many are very good. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is excellent. I was visiting Rocklin and though it was a little drive, well worth it. Air is great, much better than the valley/
Basic hotel, they had the pool open with restrictions for COVID, but it was nice to cool off on a hot day. Ikeda's is within walking distance for lunch or dinner. Plus there are other dinning options nearby.
Best Western Golden Key was bar none the best place to stay for our Auburn trip. Room was immaculate, cool in the 102 degrees heat, with an outstanding restaurant "Awful Annie's" next door for breakfast or lunch. The pool had just reopened that morning so my wife was in heaven. Staff was great and we will absolutely be staying there again...
We are repeat customers, the staff here are friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. We enjoy the breakfast, good protein sources available. We have gotten many good recommendation on places to eat and sites to see. We will be back again!
I do not complete many of these ratings but find that reading them is helpful when looking for a place to stay. I think it is well worth my time to rate this hotel. It was AWESOME! I called when making the reservation because we have a dog - at first they had no dog rooms available but worked with us and got us in. The room was plenty large, very comfy bed, plenty of pillows and blankets, very clean, well maintained, and met all our needs. Hot tub felt amazing and they gave us extra towels for getting out. Great location, easy to find and plenty of free parking. Staff was amazing - helpful, friendly, and probably the best we have seen. Breakfast was more than continental - hot items included sausage/bacon, waffles, scrambled eggs, and biscuits and gravy, plus they had cereal, fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, sweet rolls, bagels, hard boiled eggs, and more. Also had a variety of juices, milk, coffee, and tea choices. Plenty for all! Overall a perfect 5 out of 5 stars for our stay!
Comfortable and good breakfast with lots of options. Bed comfort is good and much better than the slightly cheaper motels nearby. Auburn motels right off Highway 80 seem to cost a bit more than equivalent motels further off the main travel routes, and I've decided that this place is the best value for my money.
Hotel was nice for the price. Nothing fancy but comfy beds and clean. We stayed one night and it was easy to check in and out. Shower had good pressure and the bed was comfy. Awesome breakfast place right next door called awful Annie's.
A Great Place to stay! I've stayed here a number of times in recent year! Its close to family and friends! Always a great stay, great service and a great location, everything you need is nearby! Thanks all!
Even though I prefer hotels with rooms that are enclosed within the hotel itself & not with doors where entry can be gained from the street/parking lot, I have had no problem here. From a safety standpoint the doors & locks are heavy duty & the front desk staff are incredibly prompt at responding to calls. They are also quite helpful & will accommodate requests for an upstairs room and/or one close to the office. I find that the rooms are comfortable & extremely clean. Also, just as in many larger hotels, a breakfast is provided with your stay & includes such items as waffles, sausage, eggs, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, muffins, coffee, juice, etc. which is served in a small, but spotless breakfast room. A few times I've observed one employee, Lynette, who is an example of a great staff person. I've observed her in constant motion with food prep & replenishment where she keeps hot foods hot & cold foods cold. She is efficient & always keeping the counters, floors & food area immaculate. She works fast when large crowds of people arrive & responds very nicely to guest requests. I've seen her assist folks with making waffles & operating toasters. Even when guests are grumpy, sloppy or less than at their best she's gracious & respectful (which I find an admirable quality). She is personable, likes her job, and obviously takes it seriously. With clean, comfortable rooms & staff like this, I will select this Best Western over all others!
Spent 3 days for a family get away. Location to activities was perfect. Hotel was clean, and staff was attentive to any requests we had. Have stayed at this particular hotel before and know what to expect.
Very nice older place. Exceptionally clean and taken care of. I stayed in a pet friendly room, no carpet and my dog was very happy there. There is a very large area of grass straight across the parking lot. It's more like a park than a simple dog area. It makes it very easy when traveling with a dog to be able to park right outside your door.
My wife and I decided to try out this facility and it well exceeded our expectations. We felt it was better than the one in Roseville and Corte Madera. Such a nice surprise. It was clean, staff were wonderful and the freeway noise was not discernable. You get a free breakfast and the internet is great. There is one caveat.... Because of the electric grid issues in Northern California many, many people staying here are working on the power lines and fire safety issues. So be sure to book early to get a room. We have stayed there twice already and will stay there again soon.
Stayed here for 7 nights while visiting friends in Auburn. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The grounds were nicely maintained. Breakfast was a selection of hot and cold items. We were especially happy that they had gluten free items available for a family member with celiac disease. You just have ask for it. Staff was very friendly and helpful answering questions about activities in the area.
This was a nice place to stay. The wifi was super fast and the breakfast was great. Also, you get a free drink from the bar during happy hour! This area (Grass Valley and Nevada City) is full of history and has lots of things to see and do. A nice little road trip.
Stayed one night to visit friends in Auburn. Quick check in and out process, friendly front desk clerk and breakfast attendant. Room was spacious and clean. King bed was comfortable. Breakfast was filling with a lot choices.
Room was clean and spacious, bed great. Plan on staying again this year. Upstairs, safe, close to many shops, restaurants and my trip to Colfax to a party. Great morning breakfast. Clean grounds and well kept area. Pet friendly. Handicapped facility.
As always we stay at the Golden Key. Such a nice well run property. Cindy has maintained the quality of staff. Windy is always very helpful and charming. They go out of their way to accommodate us.With rooms we prefer. Even in the high season. Great location too. Restaurants and grocery within walking distance. The grounds are so well maintained one just likes to sit and relax. Highly recommend this property.
We worked a festival in town and were quite grateful to have a nice clean place with comfy beds waiting for us nearby! Great shower height & water pressure. Room had fridge & microwave. Not fancy but certainly comfortable! It is our second visit and we'll undoubtedly be back!
With the open walkways instead of halls we knew this was going to be a dated hotel. We didn,t know that the very well maintained facility and grounds were going to mahe the stay feel like we were fresh in our earlier years. The staff is first rate and very helpful and friendly. The location is great neseled between great dining and less costly food within walking. The pool is fresh looking and framed by pld forest trees. With all of it's charm it is no wonder that you can see several classic cars staying the night as they pass through to another day of adventure on the road.
Breakfast room was too small for the number of people. People were standing in the lobby eating. Food serving containers were too small so you had to wait 10 min. for food to be replenished. Poor breakfast.
Older property but well maintained. Room very clean and spacious. Property also very clean. Near the highway but noise isn't an issue. Several restaurants within walking distance if you want to go that route.
The room was fine with a king size comfortable bed. We wanted a downstairs room and only a pet friendly room was available. It was very clean and well provisioned. As a matter of fact we are in our room now. The TV, Refrigerator, micro wave, hot water, nearby ice machine are all good. The best thing this place has going for it is the very welcoming attitude of the staff. A rude employee can run off more business than you can bring in by the best ad campaign. Stay here, you won't be sorry.
Had a great time on this trip to Aurburn, Ca, for a car show. We stayed two night and the rooms were clean and staff very friendly. The breakfast was good and lots of choices of different foods. The housecleaning staff did a great job too!
It was ok but lack a fitness room to workout or any access to a local gym like other hotels I have stayed in .Other then that it wasacnice place to stay. The staff was great. Had great snacks. Great location
Loved this place it's clean and well maintained, and super close to everything, from shopping, restaurant and bars to the freeway so you can make a quick exit, I will be staying here again for sure. Hopefully next time I get pool time
First stay at Golden Key, it was clean and easy access, a nice central spot for seeing Auburn and surrounding area. It is pet friendly and has a nicely kept Breakfast area. The staff is friendly and helpful in many ways.
This location is one of the best I have stayed at in the BW chain over the years...staff is incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful, room was clean and spacious, breakfast is a nice variety of available options. Very good bang for the buck!!
We always stay at Best Western Golden Key when we vacation in the area. The motel is dog-friendly with a huge, shaded lawn area with a couple of picnic tables, too. The rooms are clean and quiet. The breakfast has plenty of offerings, some hot, like waffles, sausage and scrambled eggs, and a variety of fruit, yogurt, and pastries. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The pool and hot tub are are fine, and the rose garden with Italian fountain are very pretty. We've been coming here for the past 10 years or longer, and have always had a pleasant stay. It is conveniently located in the Sierra foothills.
Great hotel in historic town. This our third time staying here and the service has been top notch each time. The complimentary breakfast has been high quality each time as well. Convenient to freeway yet quiet!
We've stayed at this Best Western twice, & both times were very happy with the experience. The room is super clean, the beds comfortable with lots of pillows. Happily, they have TCM on the t.v. (along with lots of other channels, but TCM is the best!). Wi-fi works fine. While you can hear the freeway noise if your door is open, you don't hear it once the door is closed. The pool is pristine, & a lovely temperature (around 84 degrees, I think). There is plenty of variety at breakfast & the food is hot & tasty. As a vegetarian, I like that they don't put the sausage IN the scrambled eggs. All of the employees were friendly & helpful & efficient. And it's a short drive to Old Town Auburn, or Raley's or wherever you need to go. Also happily: it's just a short drive to the Knee Deep Brewery -- Yes! Also, the molasses cookies in the office were really good, along with the coffee. We had a really nice stay!
The Best Western in Auburn, CA is a very nice motel with friendly, very helpful staff and lots of amenities for a basic motel- water, juice and snacks when you arrive. The room was well appointed for a small motel. And the breakfast place right next door- Awful Annie's- is great!
Clean room, caring staff, well-maintained, beautiful landscaping, clearly managed by responsible company with guests' comfort as top priority. Also, perfect location for river rafting vacation. It's a 35 minute drive to Coloma, where dozens of raft companies are based. Or 65 minutes to Truckee for rafting there. Or a short walk across a side street to the rear of Raleys grocery, where many raft co. meet their guests who are doing the challenging Middle Fork raft trip. Plus Auburn itself is historic and has lots of great places to eat, including local favorite, Awful Annie's, right next door, and Ikeda's pies & burgers half a block away. That reminds me -- this Best Western has the BEST guest directory book I've ever seen in any hotel!
A very pleasant experience. Lots of workers staying there made absolutely no noise. Everything worked as advertised. Extremely helpful woman at front desk during check-in who gave me paper plates and cutlery for use with my Chinese take-out. Would definitely stay again.
Staff was great and at first look it seemed like an older but decent facility. However our room smelled really really stale, there was hair in the tub and the faucet leaked all over the counter. You an have the greatest people in the world at the front desk, but if housekeeping and maintenance aren't being thorough then it's a problem. The overall room was clean but when you walk in a room and it smells bad you start looking for every little thing.
This hotel was very neat and clean plus had a good variety of breakfast food. Treats and bottled water and juice were available throughout the day and friendly and accommodating staff. I would stay here again.
The room was clean and well appointed. The staff helpful and professional. The only downside is that the hotel is quite close to I80 highway. We were in Auburn for a relaxing, family getaway and it seemed more of a "service" hotel for construction workers. The price reflected the difference in atmosphere and it was therefore very good value. Best Western honored a military discount which was greatly appreciated. The breakfast was great with lots of options and the housekeeping staff keep the rooms and breakfast area very clean. Check in and check out staff were professional and helpful.
Just off the freeway, this Best Western is a good and inexpensive place to stay. Nothing fancy, but clean and quiet. We were surprised how quiet because it's really a big place with three separate buildings occupying the property. A short drive into Auburn.
It was a little pricey, but we took advantage of using points for one night. People at the front desk were personable and helpful. Good location. The room was comfortable and clean. Overall, it was a nice place to stay.
. We always attempt to stay here during our numerous trips to Auburn. There is nothing fancy about the rooms but they have all the amenities you need including coffee, microwave and refridge. The hotel is always impeccably clean and well maintained.
The desk agent was so kind , friendly and helpful with our late night need for a room. She really was so kind , friendly and efficient. She was able to find us a room that would accommodate our dog as well. She helped us out when we were having a rough day. Would definitely recommend this Motel again.
We have stayed here multiple times as we visit friends in the area. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quiet. My husband is an early riser, and I didn't even hear him in the shower! We will be back again!
The rooms are very clean and has everything you would need. The room is spacious enough to easily move around and not feel cramped. The location is awesome and the restaurant next door Awful Annie's is delicious (show them your hotel key and you get a 10% discount..definitely eat there the food is amazing). The breakfast is standard at the hotel yogurt, fruit, juices, oatmeal packets, etc. However, nice if want a quick bite to do a nice morning walk/hike then come back to eat a big breakfast at Annie's. Karen at the front desk is awesome. Her personality is so positive and welcoming she made the stay even better. The only thing is mattresses should be replaced soon but besides that great hotel.
We've stayed here, from Ohio, on two separate business trips. Great value for the price. Hotel is very nicely decorated with friendly staff. The front office looks like an old den/library. The location is a plus for great restaurants, Awful Annie's next door is delicious breakfast/lunch and Dingus McGee for dinner just a 5 min drive. Also close to Old Town Auburn and downtown Auburn. Highly recommend this hotel. We will be back next time in the area.
We stayed here at the last minute. Reception was very welcoming and made several meal recommendations at the nearby shopping center. The room was updated, clean and quiet. The bathroom had plenty of towels and sundries. We utilized the high-speed Wifi and enjoyed many channels on the flatscreen TV. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had many choices and was served in an ample size room for guests.
We were mostly pleased by our stay at the Best Western. The room was updated and clean. The breakfast offered a good variety of items, including yogurt and boiled eggs and waffles. Parking was very convenient, right outside our door. One reason why we chose this place was the availability of self-serve laundry. We wish we had known about the very restrictive hours, 10p-7a. We understand the potential noise problem, but there is just one washer and one dryer, and in a separate first floor room. We got up early and got it done before anyone else got there first. We'd stay there again. The location is very convenient to restaurants and groceries.
Stayed here over the new year's weekend. Was impressed by the friendly staff and the clean rooms. Also the morning breakfast is decent. Would stay here again. It is super convenient as it is located just off the interstate.
The Best Western Golden Key is our motel of choice when traveling between Southern and Far Northern California. We have stayed there several times over the past few years. The motel and it's rooms are always clean and comfortable, and the employees are extremely friendly and pleasant, and they always make us feel welcome. Those who stay there are usually older couples, younger couples with children, and constructions workers who leave early so it is usually quiet by early evening. It is probably our most favorite of Best Western motels that we have stayed at.
The room was clean, and it was worth the value. The room was right off the parking lot, so you can park close to your room. The parking lot didn't have room for trailers to turn around, so for some people it was a tight fit.
This place is about as basic as you can get. Very Motel 6 like. No plastic cups for water. Cheap foam pillows and thin, rough towels. Stained rug with strong perfume odor. Bed was hard and springy with very little top padding. On the plus side there is a large refrigerator and decent sized microwave. Also, the Front desk staffer was extremely pleasant. Won't be back.
What do I want from a hotel - a bed that I can sleep in. I am used to my Tempur-Pedic at home. The bed here was comfortable and I was able to get a good nights sleep. The TV actually had a guide. Many hotels you have to channel surf to see what is on.I had my dog with me (110 pound rottweiler). Staff was very accommodating. Only heard one small dog bark when we went past the room for the morning potty walk.
Rolled into this place in the late afternoon, they were very full. We got excellent service and we were lucky enough to get their last room. The room was great, as was the breakfst. The hotel is located next to a small strip mall which was quite handy. Lots of places to eat around the hotel as well.
The room was clean and had everything I might need. No excessive noise and easy access to businesses close by. On check in, Dylan was particularly helpful and very polite. I would stay here again if I was in the area.
This room is spotless, quiet and very comfortable. Good parking. The young person at reception was lovely and helpful. Just the right balance of economical and well maintained . Good location near restaurants. Continental breakfast included. Ask for quiet room away from freeway. Has a pool and hot tub.
The staff here is always friendly, also great to see sum of the same staff from prior years. the hotel has a great location to a lot areas we like to visit, Old Town Auburn, Folsom, Rocklin, Nevada City. Food is always close every fast food, and quality restaurants Hotel is clean, pool always nice, and even Barbequed this visit. Great place.
Always clean, comfortable with all the basics. Good area. Everything close by. Restaurants, grocery store, etc. very dog friendly with a nice grass area wth picnic tables and grills. Unfortunately, each time We've come, It's rained. but I'm sure will be back. Staff are very nice.
This Hotel was nothing fancy but was better than I expected. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It is right next to the freeway, which is great for location but a little noisy. Still it was a good value. I would stay here again with no hesitation.
Noisy, right next to Highway 80 with constant big rig noise. Downstairs rooms hear every footstep above from old creaky floors. Didn't honor my reservation request for an upstairs room. Upon arrival wouldn't change due to "all rooms are already assigned. Breakfast was terrible. Only hot food was a reheatable waffle and packaged microwavable breakfast burrito that basically had mush inside and was inedible. Credit though for having bananas. Our sink didn't drain, and made gurgling noises throughout the night. Bathroom windows don't lock. Shower water took about 4 minutes to get hot. Don't know why this place is rated as high as it is. Avoid if you need a good night's sleep, as there are no rooms away from the freeway noise.
We love this hotel. We stay every year on our way home from Burning Man with our small daughter. It is clean and comfortable with friendly staff and nice amenities. We also love that it is walking distance to a few nice restaurants, a grocery store and fast food. Because who wants to get back in the car after a long drive.
This hotel served us well for a funeral in Auburn. Wonderful waffles in morning, clean room and pleasant service all around. Handy first floor and parking for slight handicap. Walking distance to groceries, book store, Halmark and several eating spots. Easy to find off interstate.
Rooms were clean and comfy. Pool was very nice as was the patio beside it. Very hot during our visit but our room stayed nice and cool. Breakfast was really very good. We had prepaid for the day following check in but the staff allowed us to change it to another day which was very much appreciated. We will stay here again.
We stayed here one night on our way to high sierras. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was basic but they did have chobani yogurt and sausage. The room was spotless, the checkin easy and the pool was heated.
Best Western Golden Key Auburn California, sounds a great place to stay,we thought so and so it was, although a bit expensive for the average room.A really lovely receptionist welcomed us in ,booking was made easy by Linda, who gave us her full attention, a great start,a large room was availible, very clean and "fresh" the bathroom facilities were a little strange in the positions, the vanitory units, for normal washing were exposed and could be viewed from the actual room,no problem for us,but if you are shy ? One fault was that one tap, faucet, was faulty, but having twin basins made this a minor problem, the other faucet leaked across the top making towels and flannels wet before use, again a minor issue for us,this was reported as we left..A really great breakfast was on hand served in a well organised way, as a Subway was located just around the corner we decided to purchase one each and eat in the garden/lawn area of the hotel, this, however was spoilt due to other guests allowing their dogs to run free and use the area as a latrine, one dog was allowed to run to us and slaver around our legs, very disrepectful attitude from the owner? It was still an enjoyable stay.Where we slept well and undesturbed,in spite of numerous (friendly) bikers, staying nearby.
Extraordinarily poor service. Front desk staff initially seems friendly, but if you ask for anything they change their tune. Three people in our party experienced rude behavior from the front desk, and one was treated poorly by the manager. Nice physical plant. Very poor staff. Visit this property at your peril.
Nice hotel. Clean, spacious room with microwave, refrigerator & TALL shower. Very comfortable bed, plenty of pillows! Close to everything in Auburn with easy freeway access. AC did a fine job keeping the room cool and did so, quietly!
This hotel was clean, comfortable and pretty quiet for being right off the freeway. The bed was so comfortable! My husband and I stayed for the night so we didn't have to make the long drive home to Carson City. The staff that was there on Saturday around 5pm she was so nice. I was hoping to see her in the morning but it was ok because I was greeted by another very nice staff. The only thing I can say that wasn't good was the wifi didn't work. It was ok because we did have cell service. It was a quick one night trip so it was perfect for us. I want to compliment the cleaning staff for the spotless room! it was immaculate! I always stay at clean hotels. I am really OCD about that and let me say the shower was sparkling and the room smelled clean. We haven't stayed in lots of Best Westerns but the last two have been great. I finally got on the rewards program so will be picking to stay at best western as much as possible. Thanks again for a comfortable nice stay! please, give the cleaning crew at this hotel an extra thank you from the Pompey's!;)
Staff was extremely helpful, friendly and informative. Easy check in and out. Although the hotel was full during our stay the rooms were very quiet, hot water available on demand, and comfortable beds/pillows. Easy walk to restaurants and grocery store.
Seldom do I give hotels 5 Stars but this place really deserved it I have been a Elite status member with BW for 20 years and I am very brand loyal . I made 6 hotel reservations at 6 Different hotels online at Bestwestern.com only to find out the hotels never received my reservation I had confirmation numbers and emails in hand like I always do ( thank god ) so I did not get walked if the property was booked I figured there may be a issue and so I called ahead . The women I spoke to was great , I was not happy at all about what happened The manager gave me a bunch of extra points to make up for my problem Needless to say BW did not do much to help me So if you make reservation online with BW I WOULD CALL THE PROPERTY TO CONFIRM !
Good in all ways, except right across frontage road from major freeway, so constant freeway noise even in bedrooms. Pretend it's the ocean. It happened that the local Packard car club met there, so looking at 50+ Packard's from the 1930s-1950s was an added treat.
I have already been telling people how wonderful everything was at this Best Western I stayed for 7 nights on vacation from out of state. All of the staff did a great job, the service was great. The room was very clean and comfortable.
This property is in 50's or 60's style, with no elevators and exterior entries. They apparently had renovated fairly recently. Breakfast was very basic, with no hot items (except toast). There is a lovely rose garden by the entrance to the property, but otherwise nothing worth noting. The managers and desk clerks were very friendly and helpful.
Great overall experience. It's clean and we love the comforters on the beds and the pillows are extremely comfortable. the staff are all excellent and seem to love their jobs. This hotel meets all of our needs.
Great location right off of Interstate 80. Easy access to Historic Highway 49 winding through Gold Country and old pioneer towns. Close to Starbucks, restaurants and grocery shopping. All the staff was absolutely friendly and accommodating! Thank you for a lovely night's sleep! :))
A little noisy because it's practically next to the interstate, but centrally located and easily accessible. Rooms appear to have been recently remodeled. Very comfortable bed, spic-and-span, great staff. I'll be in Auburn again next year (for the same work-related reasons), and will definitely stay here again.
Stayed three nights with my doggie. Check-in was painless with smiles. The room was clean with many extras included: coffee, shampoo, soap, wi-fi, TV, etc. The towels were pure white and folded in a special way that made me smile. Very nice grass and patio area for walking my dog with poop bags provided. Breakfast treats are included each morning an excellent selection to choose from. Also, grocery store and restaurants nearby. Hot tub wasn't available during my visit.
A traditional, comfortable and clean motel, with all modern conveniences, that's well run. Sure beats expensive modern gray and drab hermetically sealed rooms. The area has restaurants and a large grocery store very near. There is some white noise from the highway traffic.
We stayed here at the last minute on our way up to Truckee. It was late and we wanted to avoid chain controls so we stayed here for the night. Staff is nice and the room was clean and in good condition. Liked having the dual sinks in the bath area. We booked through Priceline right before we arrived. One thing to keep in mind is that the hotel system does not receive info from Priceline for 15-20 minutes so you may have to wait until they receive the information.
Love this hotel. It's easy access on and off the freeway. Hotel staff goes out of their way to accommodate you and the room is always clean. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Overall I look forward to staying there because I know my experience will be great.
We found the room to be very clean with comfortable beds. The room wasn't updated and the hotel has exterior doors to the rooms, which always gives me the feeling of dirty carpets. No fault of BW. Staff was extremely helpful, from reserving a room for us at SF airport BW the next night, to housekeeping making sure my Kindle made it home to the east coast! Breakfast was hot and tasty.
I have stayed here many times. Nice employees, comfortable beds and clean. We always stay here when we are in the Sacramento are. Normal Bw breakfast. There are many food locations nearby and Starbucks is fairly close.
This hotel is OK the computer chair arm was broke in the room it wasn't cleaned to well some good things staff was very nice the rooms were modern I would stay here again there's restaurants that are very close the beds were very conformable
This Motel has always gone the extra mile for my wife and I( even before we were handicapped) and now more than ever ! The Location in Auburn is wonderful, easy in and out from the free-way and all the stores and dinning to suite most needs, ( close). But what really sets them apart is there Management and the staff: Everybody goes the extra mile from the front desk, maids ,pool and grounds people. Everyone smiles and ask if they can help you in any way. In addition, we have always enjoyed a clean room and updated fixtures and hope to keep coming back for many years! Jim & Sandy Hulbert p.s. the pool and pool area is wonderful, all year!!
We have stayed at the Best Western Golden Key Inn in Auburn several times during the past few years. It is a convenient stop between Southern CA and Humboldt County, where we have relatives in both area. The employees at the Golden Key are all extremely friendly and helpful. We like the old west decor and the comfort of the rooms. The breakfast area is clean and kept replenished by their excellent help. The pool is nice in the summer time, and the cookies upon arrival are always welcomed.
The Best Western Golden Key, Auburn CA is the best place to stay in that area. Also great if travelling on I-80 between S.F. Bay Area/Sacramento and Reno/points east. Clean, safe, great amenities, fair pricing, helpful staff who make you feel at home. Conveniently located off I-80. Walking distance to great restaurants.
We have always been satisfied with our stay at this motel. It is the place we stay whenever we want to stop on our way from Reno to California. We like the comfort of the beds, the cleanliiness and the friendliness whenever we stay. Thanks for always being gracious.
Stayed at the Best Western to attend the Nevada City Victorian Christmas Faire. It was a restful stay and the faire was delightful. Auburn is a quaint gold country town with lots of cute shops, local restaurants, and a quiet, sleepy environment. Highly recommend it for a visit.
This is a very reasonable room for the price. The room was very comfortable and very clean. Staff was also very friendly. My only disappointment was the hot tub. On my arrival and check in I was told that the hours for the hot tub were 7p-10p and that they had special towels at the front desk for that purpose. That was great and worked well until I went and got my towels. Its after 7pm and the hot tub had a closed sign on it. I asked the front desk if it was closed or was the sign an error, he explained that he didn't know why, but the hot tub was closed and we couldn't use. I was very disappointed since this was one of the main reasons I chose this location.
Needed an easy place to stay overnight. Very friendly, clean and updated. The room was nicely done and nice amenities. The hotel is easy to get in and out of and the breakfast is the standard nice selection of yogurts, baked goods, waffles, hard boiled eggs, etc. I like that option when you are on the go.
Have stayed at this hotel several times in the past 15-20 years, and it has been a consistently pleasant experience. Cleanliness was top-notch, staff was uniformly pleasant, breakfast was good. Best Western hotels continue to perform well over all for us overall.
Came for family event. Didn't know what to expect. But was pleasantly surprised. The location was ideal. Having food options close by was a plus. Didn't have to go looking for anything. Everything was close by.
Traveling with a big dog can be challenging, but Best Western Golden Key makes it easy. Not only are the rooms spacious, clean and comfortable; the property is beautifully maintained with thoughtfully planted trees, roses and a lawn in front . A reasonable pet fee with no weight restriction makes it a no brainer. Pet rooms are grouped together in a specific part of the hotel, so those traveling without pets can take comfort that their stay won't be interrupted by the furry friends of others. Truly the best place to stay in the Auburn area.
I give this hotel a grade of "A-". The service was excellent. Given that there are only a handful of hotels to choose from in Auburn, this hotel stands out. They don't have much competition, but they don't use that fact as a selling point. You can tell they put time, energy and thought into the layout, amenities and services they provide. Breakfast was on point. Great selection and plenty of space to dine in. The location is superb and highway accessible. The service was as it should be. We asked for an extra pillow and blanket, and they delivered in a timely manner. Only negatives were they did not make a big deal of the fact that I'm a Gold level member. That's a detail that loyal customers like me want appreciated. Some sort of tangible "thank you" would have been nice. Also, there's a considerable edge between the walkway and entrance to our hotel room...probably 4 to 5 inches. That's a tripping hazard and a potential health risk. If someone falls and gets injured, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Other than that, this hotel could easily be an affordable alternative to pricier Tahoe options. Job well done!
I arrived for a one-night stay and greeted by a very friendly staff. The property is very convenient to food and other services. I was able to get some laundry done; for which I was very grateful. The room was on the 2nd floor, but close to stairs. I like the little picnic area provide and relief area for pets. I had a breakfast date with friends so I didn't get to experience the Inn's breakfast. However, from a service standpoint I would stay again.
Best Western Plus is a better option than regular Best Western. I stay in B.W P Brookside on Nov. 17 2017 and B.W. Golden Key on Nov. 16th 2017. I can feel that these two are totally 2 different levels. I can see that Best Western Hotel Golden Key un-changed bed cover and pet smell in room. Best Western Plus is absolutely perfect!!
We stay at this property several times a year while visiting family. Have for several years now. The thing that really strikes a note is how pleasant the whole staff is. And how well the property is maintained. We can see from every visit up-grades are being made. From soothing color palate in the rooms to up-graded TV service. While not always having the morning breakfast we go in and get a cup of coffee and visit with the counter people and the lady that puts out the "vittles". Most have been there for years. That says a bunch.! Cindy the GM does a remarkable job.
My husband and l arrived late and left early, and didn't have any requests of the staff, but after the very pleasant and friendly experience with both the check in and check out personnel l have no doubt all of the staff would be as friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and well appointed. We don't travel often, but we will look for a BW first to stay during our next outing
Nice location, right off expressway, close to restaurants. Also, close to downtown historic Auburn. Hotel's outside appearance blends well with the area. Rooms are clean, large and comfortably appointed. Even has a putting green. Big plus they accept dogs and have a nice grass area to walk them.
The Golden Key is a little treasure in the Gold Country. It is very well maintained, always clean, always friendly staff and as accommodating as they can be. The breakfast is always good warm and on time. The rooms are quiet considering that it is an older motel. The hot tub and pool are always clean and enjoyable, especially in the winter!
We were very pleased with the staff at this hotel when we called early in the morning when we were evacuated due to the Lobo fire in Penn Valley. They were able to give us a room with two beds and get us in the room very early. Thanks to all the staff!
I am accustomed to staying at Marriott and hilton hotels, but this establishment was close to our destination venue, so we decided to give it a try. My wife and I are very pleasantly surprised with this location. It was very comfortable and all of the staff that we had contact with went out of their way to ensure our satisfaction and the pleasantness of our stay. We stayed two nights and enjoyed the included hot breakfast that was offered. While it is an older motel it has been obviously well maintained and modernized for the times. I would definitely recommend this location to friends and relatives and would absolutely stay again, should the opportunity arise. Kudos to the management and staff!
My husband and I always stay at the Best Western in Auburn when we visit our son and his family who live nearby. The staff are always nice/friendly/efficient and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. Breakfast is breakfast but this hotel has a wide variety for all to choose from. Really like the warm cookies, coffee, tea and juice upon arrival!
Just retired from a job that required travel - always stayed at Hiltons. Found Best Western staff, rooms & amenities to be spot-on & signed up for their rewards club! Hardly ever got this kind of service and attitude from Hilton - even though I was a Diamond member. Impressed with BW!
Surrounded by food choices and minutes from the historical downtown of Auburn. Could not be more convenient. The staff is excellent and the rooms had better amenities than the Holiday Inn we booked in San Francisco.
No problems, this was not a luxury hotel. However, it was clean, nice and served our purposes. Worth the price. Would use this hotel again. Had a refrigerator and microwave, which is handy. No bugs and not too much noise. Everything worked, the bed was only OK.
Hotel room was Very Clean, Staff Excellent, great dog park! Easy Parking, Great Location!n! Great selections for breakfast! Found all staff very helpful as willing to be helpful in every need! Looking forward to saying here in the future!
Love staying at this facility, very clean, room is comfortable, bed and pillows ensure a restful nights sleep. The breakfast is robust and delicious! Shower head nice and tall, great water pressure and temperature too! The staff are the best from housekeeping all the way up! Thanks again for an enjoyable stay!
Have stayed there at least 5 times. Rooms are always clean. Town is very interesting and fun. Great food and people are friendly. Hotel is pet friendly and they have an excellent pet relief area. We make this hotel our destination stop on our way to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Everything was excellent especially the service from Tyler (check in), Maria (assisting with breakfast)and Karen (check out). It was a refreshing stay and I highly recommend the Best Western Golden Key in Auburn, Ca.
Nice clean hotel. lots of good restaurants close by. It is an older hotel but is very clean. It has a nice simple breakfast It also has a pool and spa.Close to old town Auburn and the Gold Country Fairgrounds
Nice place to stop on the way to Tahoe. Clean, lots of plugs, coffee maker etc/. Some road noise. I had commitments so I could not leave from the Bay Area until 9:30PM. I didn't want to drive all the way, so I stopped at the BW Golden Key on the way. It was a good decision.
Very clean with comfortable beds and a nice continental breakfast for you in the morning. A great location to freeway access also. The staff was very friendly. Definitely go back again. The price was also reasonable for the quality of service.
Great place, reasonable price, comfy beds with lots of pillows. Even though it is off a busy street with the interstate near, you don't hear a thing once your door is shut. Staff so friendly, clean grounds, easy parking right up to your room. If your traveling with a pet the make sure you are on the lower level so you don't have to keep going up and down the stairs to take out the dog. Cozy little sitting area, tables, BBQ, walk the dog. Clean pool and spa.
I am a traveling service technician and spend well over 250 days per year in hotels so I have certain expectations. The Golden Key is one of the best I get to visit. The staff at the front desk welcomes you with a smile, very professional, and well trained. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Beds are comfy and I slept well. The breakfast selection is good and tastes very good.
Clean, nice, pet-friendly place with nice staff and welcoming atmosphere. The location is convenient to the interstate and is near coffee shops, restaurants, and gas stations. Although the AC is a little noisy, it's comfortable.
Overall a pleasant experience here. We were here for a wedding and this seemed the best in the area and was part of the block reserved for the wedding. We really enjoyed the breakfast and pool. Hotel staff was friendly and answered the questions that we had.
This hotel far exceeds your expectations! What a beautiful, well kept property. You can tell a lot of pride goes into this place. iI wish I travelled to that area more often just so I could stay there.
We loved the hotel, we stayed last year at another hotel down the street and would not go back to that hotel. But Best Western was great and the pool was very nice. The hotel overall was a great experience, very comfortable.
We spent 4 nights in different hotels along our trip and honestly, Best Western was the cleanest and most spacious room we stayed in. The others were small and stuffy and not comfortable at all. We loved the kingsize bed as well, which was so nice as we did not get in until the middle of the night.
We stayed here on our way home from Tahoe. Had not been to Auburn before and we were familiar with Best Western. This motel is very nice. Large guest rooms, comfortable beds, air conditioning! We arrived during an unexpected hot spell and the AC made a huge difference. Will definitely stay there if we are in the area again.
From the moment of check-in with Windy to final check out I'm so happy to have found Best Western Golden Key for my pup Ziva and me. Great customer service & amenities. Feels safe and staff is so courteous and helpful. Free breakfast lived up to high expectations!
Over the past 3 years, we have stayed at the Best Western Golden Key Inn in Auburn, and it will remain our motel of choice when in the Auburn area. The employees are very friendly and are willing to help, should there be a necessity. The rooms are good-sized and comfy, and the small refrigerator and microwave, hidden away in the chest of drawers, are a big plus. The pictures of the old gold-mining days are very interesting, as are the pieces of old, authentic furniture in the breakfast area. With the friendliness that exists there, I feel right at home as soon as I walk into the lobby and until I leave. I would highly recommend this motel, with its reasonable rates, cleanliness, pool, and comfort.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Not far from shops, dining and recreation areas. The breakfast assortment was really nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the pool area as well. We will definitely be back again.
We loved our stay at the Golden Key. Our room was clean, bed was comfortable. Internet worked fine. We had the pool all to ourselves that afternoon. Really appreciate being able to bring my dog along. Looking forward to my next stay!
My wife and I were on our way to Lake Tahoe and just needed a place to sleep for the night. Of all the motels/hotels I reviewed online, this hotel had the most consistent very good to excellent reviews. I would concur. The main thing was that for a budget hotel, the room was clean and neat and the complimentary breakfast offered healthy options like fruits, juices, yogurt, oatmeal, and other high fiber items.
Good location right off the highway and next to some good food. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Shower was ok (old school shampoo in a pump bottle stuck to the wall). Wifi worked well. Breakfast was ok. Somewhat limited parking, room service did come by at 8:15 AM one morning.
I hate to let the cat out of the bad but this hotel is the best value in Auburn. Clean, friendly, and an excellent value. The staff makes your stay the best possible. I've stayed here twice and plan to return soon!
We stayed at the Best Western Golden Key while we attended a ukulele festival in Auburn, California. The room was large, very pleasant and very comfortable. Everything worked. Breakfast was included in the price of the room -- that was a pleasant surprise. All the hotel's employees were super-friendly and helpful.
Hotel itself was comfortable but the staff were unfriendly and very unprofessional. I have stayed in hotels all over the United States and Europe and have never been spoken to this way. I do believe that it is a "one bad egg" situation as the hotel was very accommodating in other ways until I had to deal with this particular person.
Four of us played golf at Darkhorse and the Ridge. We spent the night at this hotel. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I even went swimming and enjoyed the hotel's hot tub. The hotel location is easy to find. We'll definitely stay here at our next Auburn golf trip. Thanks.
Good place to stay! We were in need of staying overnight and it was comfortable & clean. Staff were expedient and the location was convenient. They also had 'To Go' bags for breakfast for anyone that needed to depart early.
Good, clean and up to date older style motel with room doors that exit directly to the outside (no interior hallway), which I prefer. Convenient location; many places to eat near by within walking distance if you do not want to drive.
I'm rather picky about hotel rooms, but I was quite impressed here. In most hotel rooms, even much higher priced than this one, you walk in to the vague smell of disinfectant, or there's some deferred maintenance, or it is not quite clean, or the layout is strange. None of that here. Clean and perfectly maintained. Also, the breakfast was great. Make-your-own waffles, a great variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, sausages, and more. Saves money and time going out.
We enjoyed our stay. The beds were comfortable, the location convenient, and the staff welcoming and hospitable. We enjoyed the breakfast, especially with some tables/chairs/umbrellas outside. The room was very quiet, especially since there were 2 buildings with up and down stairs. Would stay again.
Have stayed here several times. Rooms are clean and comfortable, grounds are very pleasant, good breakfast and friendly staff. Great value and convenient location on the way to or from Sacramento & Bay Area.
In the shower was a shampoo/conditioner/soap dispenser, which I suppose was a money saving move by the owners rather than replacing the small single items every day. Not a bad idea, but filling the dispenser with low quality stuff is. At least get your bulk refills at Costco or Walmart, not at the Dollar Store! This was my only complaint. For $89 a night, it was just fine.
The staff at the Golden Key has been exceptional every time we have stayed there. We visit relatives in the Auburn area 2-3 times each year and the Golden Key is always our choice for comfort and value.
I traveled to Auburn for work. I stayed two nights. This hotel was great. Quiet, even though it was nearly sold out. Easy access to freeway and conveniently located near places to eat.The staff was courteous and helpful. Great value for the price!
The Best Western Golden Key is an excellent hotel to stay at in Auburn before setting out to explore the scenery of the nearby beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains. The accommodation and breakfast service was fully acceptable.
Clean nice rooms with fridge and micro. Even though the hotel is close to road it's quiet in your room and the air conditioner kept it nice and cool. The staff was welcoming and knowledge and the breakfast room was clean and replenished constantly. Would stay here over and over.
We stayed at the Best Western in Auburn for a family visit in July 2017. The room was spacious and the bed quite comfortable. What was most pleasant, however, was how incredibly clean the room was. The sheets were crisp and had a pleasant scent. The bathroom was spotless. The furniture was a bit dated, but that did not bother us one bit. The toiletries provided were also of a good quality. There was also breakfast provided, which was adequate. This hotel proves that you don't need much to provide great accommodation, just excel in little details like providing clean rooms. I will definitely return at this hotel should we return to Auburn.
It was our first time traveling with pets and everything went well. We were all very comfortable and enjoyed our stay. We needed a pet-friendly place to stay so that our own home could be pet free during the real estate Open House week-end and related chaos. This was the best way to do it - a mini-vacation!
The Best Western Golden Key is the best place to stay in Auburn. It's clean, has a pool, a heated pool (summer only), air-conditioning, mini golf area, free breakfast, two- or one-bed hotel rooms, free snacks available when you arrive at the hotel, free internet, rose gardens, a television, and friendly staff. Best Western Golden Key is a great place to stay whether you're there to stay for a night as a traveler or for a weekend as a tourist. Some of the rooms have a "no pets" and "no smoking" policy. There is almost always plenty of parking at the hotel, even when the hotel is full during the night.
Staff very helpful, and rooms very clean. My main issue was their air conditioning policy. In order to turn on the air, you have to plug your room key in it. This is to keep you from running the air when you are not in the room. I got an extra key so I wouldn't have to put up with this crazy setup, but the coldest the air would get was around 72. I did not sleep at all. In the morning, I beet feet to Idaho without looking back.
Great rooms, great service, minutes from every highway we needed on our travels. The beds were comfy, staff professional. Don't let the need for s new outside pant job fool you this was a great place. Pet friendly and quiet
The room was clean and spacious. The day was very warm and the air conditioner worked perfectly. The room was quiet especially it being fully booked. The bathrooms and bed was clean. They had 2 suitcase stands which is rare in a hotel room. I appreciate that I was able to use my husbands military discount. I would suggest this hotel to anyone especially families, they have an outdoor pool. They have washing machines that the guest can use. They were next door to a fast food restaurant. I can't say enough nice things about this hotel
I usually stay here when visiting family and my reviews are the same! This time I was struck by how quiet it is--there was no noise disturbing my sleep. The breakfast is good--while I didn't have the waffles, they did smell good. It's clean, reasonably priced, and close to the highway. And now that Awful Annie's is next door--it can't be beat!
We came across this hotel and it was fantastic. Room was spacious, clean and had lots of amenities. The staff was great and very helpful. He recommended a wonderful restaurant within walking distance. I will look for Best Westerns throughout our vacation.
What a find, this is the best hotel in all of Auburn. I have stayed in about all of the hotels in the area and the value for the money can not be beat. Do not bother to look around, just book with these folks today!
Great place to stay.Clean and all the ameneties,Good Staff.A little Pricey but you get a great room.Location is a little far from attractions however is located in a good area. restaurants fast food and stores are all close at hand.
We were doing the American River the following day and stayed at the Best Western which is about one block away from the pick-up location. The motel room was very large; we had two queen beds and a roll-away and still had plenty of space. The bathroom was small and the room was simple. It was inexpensive and met our needs for one night. The highlight was defintely the staff. They were so helpful and nice. We had a plug-in cooler and they held on to it the and kept it plugged in the whole day we were on the river. The night clerk, helped me out with printing several documents as well. When we arrived and our roll-away was not in the room, the clerk brought us one without any delay. Thank you for making our stay so nice.
Our stay at Best Western Golden Key in Auburn was wonderful. From Windy making sure I had the extra night I forgot to book, to Jennifer making us feel glad to be there, to Tyler going out of his way to be kind to my son, we could not have asked for a friendlier staff. Everything in the hotel is clean; from the lobby, to the breakfast room, to the room, to the pool. It was a pleasure to relax in the room or on the pool deck in the very warm evening. Bonus: COOKIES WERE DELICIOUS!
Cleanest room I have ever stayed in! All staff I encountered was very friendly and helpful!!! All the amenities really saved me: i.e. the full breakfast bar, refrigerator storage in the room, coffee, tea, snacks and even fresh baked cookies throughout the day, the pool, and in-room internet.
Easy location to find, quick on and off near the highway. Very friendly and congenial staff. Great place for people with dogs. Restaurants very close by. Lovely park with shade trees and picnic area with BBQ.
This was our first trip traveling with our medium sized dog and this hotel was very accommodating. Clean, nice rooms, place to walk the dog and relax. Very nice people work here. Free breakfast was very good to get us on our way. Restaurants close by and easy access to the freeway. We would definitely stay here again.
I was pretty disappointed with the quality of this hotel after booking based on photos. Bare minimum necessities, felt like a motel 6 with AC and Pool. Good location and parking availability. Won't go back.
We have never stayed at this hotel before but would stay again in a heartbeat. The Property was very clean, the rooms and bed were very comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. They also had home baked cookies.
The staff was quite friendly and the breakfast selections were more than adequate. I partially enjoyed the topping selections for the yogurts and the fresh fruit. Note the shower head did not function property.
The only real problem for me at this property was the traffic noise, and since the only real reason to stay at a motel is to sleep, this is a problem. We did lose hot water the last morning, but the staff very quickly offered another room for showering. It is conveniently located for several good restaurants within walking distance.
Comfortable, Quiet, CLEAN, everything worked well. Very Friendly staff and helpful. We left our cell phone in the room. We were immediately contacted and were able to go back and get it. The room for the breakfast was very clean, food was excellent. Air conditioning was excellent. Bed was comfortable.
Our group stayed at the Best Western in Auburn. We had a little outdoor party in the garden area while waiting for our rooms to be ready. We had a blast and enjoyed our stay at Best Western. We are looking forward to our stay again next year.
My extended family and I, coming here from Southern California, stayed here for 2 nights. Altogether, we booked 5 rooms. All of us were quite impressed by the friendly & professional employees, the cleanliness of the rooms, and that there were no more bedspreads!!!! :)
We were just passing through, came in at night, bought pizza and beer at a convenience store and kept the beer cold in the minifridge in the room. Room was clean and adequate. Not fancy, but good enough. The breakfast was good; again, nothing stupendous, but adequate. Professional management. If you are going east from the Bay area and it gets late and you need a place, I would recommend this one.
Updated spacious room. Solar panels on roof! Attractive landscape with outdoor pool and hot tub! This was a pleasant stop as we continued on the next morning. We think this was one of the best BW we've stayed in over the years.
Typical Best Western. I asked for upper level room (2 story exterior entrance motel style). None were available. Rooms were clean but dated. Bed was springy. Room was typically noisy (road noise, upper level noise). Room was a little expensive for value offered. OK if nothing else available.
I would highly recommend this hotel. Very clean, comfortable and the staff was excellent. They are pet friendly, which was a bonus. Very close to excellent dining and many local attractions. Would stay here again if we are in the area again.
For the price, this motel is aging and needs to be upgraded. It's fine but nothing special. However, the breakfast is more varied than some; they serve hot food for breakfast as well as the usual. It's convenient to a large grocery store and each room has a fridge and microwave.
Plusses: We had a 1st floor king room. It was very well lit, with lots of electrical outlets and an ample work table. The bed was comfortable enough. A microwave and fridge were hidden in the buffet/dresser. It had two (2!!!!) folding luggage racks, a huge plus!! It was well heated. (This was a unseasonably cold wintery day) The tub/shower had a grab bar, but another would have been nice. No mold in the bathroom. Plenty of flat surfaces for your miscellaneous stuff. Breakfast was better than I'm used to at Best Westerns. There were DIY waffles and small pancakes, with boysenberry syrup in addition to the usual stuff, raisin bread (makes great toast!) and condiments (dried cranberries, slivered almonds, granola) for your instant oatmeal and/or yogurt. One negative was the steep drop down when you left the room. I was afraid of missing the step, but it didn't happen. Another big negative was that there was no coffee or tea after breakfast was over. Apparently I just hit a bad time when the breakfast room was being cleaned up, the door was shut, and there was no one at the front desk to ask. I'll probably stay there again if I'm staying in Auburn. It also seems well situated for a stroll around Old Town.
I stayed here once before by choice, but this time the arrangements were made for me. The room is clean, the bed is comfortable, but...2 things got me this time (#2 is the worst)...1. I am not a coffee drinker and was glad to see they had 2 tea options available. When I woke in the morning I found that both teas were Orange Pekoe (decaf and not). I went to the office and asked for something different, they said they had more options downstairs at breakfast, I told them that defeated the convenience of having a coffee maker in your room, but received no comment and hoped they would correct it the next day as I walked to Starbucks. I left the tea bags out with a note so when the maids came they could change it. The next morning I woke to find the same 2 choices stuffed in the box. Despite my request. On checking out I commented again and they this time told me it was policy to only have one choice in the rooms and they had more choices in at breakfast. I told them that that defeated the convenience of having it in the room and that it would be wiser to have a more generic tea available since not everyone likes Orange. No apology. 2. The heater had a metal grinding noise that went off every hour or so. I as irritating. I didnt sleep the whole night. It was warm the first night and I didnt need it so I couldnt mention it to them. I took a video and showed the manager and they were shocked. I tried to upload it but TA wont take video.
Needed a last minute stay within 30 minutes of a family visit (couldn't get reservations in Grass Valley). Price and location were right. Hotel was dated but comfortable. Room was typical of rooms that opened to an outside balcony. Door was not tight so air, light and noise entered that way. Staff was good. Breakfast was what you would expect. A reasonable selection, but nothing that's going to make you choose this for the food.
noisy location, room nice, even if it was a non-smoking room it had that smoky smell when you walked into the room. Don't leave any food laying around otherwise you will have ants walking all over within seconds, depending on the weather. Breakfast was good, nothing special the usual. Friendly staff
Older motel, room (king bed) small and clean, fixtures and furnishings have been updated. Faces interstate 80, so road noise is very bad, no sound insulation, big gap under door, large party going on in parking lot behind our room. With good ear plugs and fan going constantly throughout night, could mange some sleep. Wouldn't rate as poor if the cost had been lower, but this was not worth $96 a night.
The rooms open to the exterior, but this does not diminish from being a great place to stay. Everyone on the staff is very friendly. They really maintain the cleanliness of the rooms, lobby, etc. The breakfast has quality items like Chobani yogurt, fresh fruit, etc. The hotel is right off the freeway and with places to get food within walking distance.
We were at first dismayed to see how close to the freeway the hotel was, and I was worried about the noise level at night. Thankfully, we were given a room in the part that was furthest away, and since the back window opened onto a quiet little green space, the noise problem was fixed. The room was basic but clean, and the beds comfortable. Breakfast could have had more options, but also ok. Overall - nothing to gush about, and nothing to complain about.
When our son went to college, we started finding more reasons to travel. The more we went, the more we started gravitating toward BW. Their hotels always seemed to be nicer and their people always were helpful. The Golden Key is a few miles from my Brother-in-laws house and when we stayed in Auburn, theirs was the first hotel we tried and we were not disappointed. They have taken excellent care of us, which includes my handicapped wife and sometimes physically challenged Mother-in-law, with excellent service and a friendly demeanor. We have even brought our dogs and they loved it, too.
The Best Western Golden Key Inn is our choice of motels to spend the night on our trips between the Los Angeles Area and Humboldt County when driving up or down Highway 99. After our first stay there, we realized this would now become our halfway stopping point. Although it is a somewhat further drive when we visit relatives in Rocklin, we find it well worth the extra 15 minutes since the employees are extremely pleasant, courteous, and helpful, and the rooms are nice and clean and roomy.
This is one of the best places we have stayed at on our road trip. We were welcomed by very friendly staff that couldn't do enough for us. We were offered tea coffee juices and snacks. We checked in and our room was very clean with a very comfortable queen size bed. Lovely shower and had a TV with so many channels. After a great nights sleep we went down for breakfast. There was so much choice. Cereals breads waffles yogurts boiled eggs tea coffee juices and more. Love to stay another night but we must continue our road trip.
We stay here repeatedly, it is always clean and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. Always feel welcomed here. Easy access to the freeway, which is a plus, but also can produce some noise. Not enough to be a real problem, but if your a super light sleeper, then maybe it could be a problem.
Convenient to freeway, very nice staff, comfortable rooms. Check in was easy, 2 great restaurants close by,5 minutes to Old Town Auburn. Traveling with a friend and appreciated that the room had double sinks and was not part of shower.
Appreciated the way the staff was on top of our visit & called us the day before to verify some options. Within walking distance of shopping & restaurants. Perfect location to stop before heading into snow country!
This is a lovely property with swimming pool and hot tub. The grounds are well maintained, well lighted at night and we were in the back building away from traffics and it was blessedly quite. The rooms are spacious, clean and inviting. The staff is professional, knowledgeable and friendly. This property is close to hiking, gold panning, skiing, museums (the CourtHouse Museum was interesting and the building its self is lovely, and the Bernhardt House was also well restored and worth a look see). An extended Continental breakfast is excluded with your stay. Waffles, cereal, pastries, fruit, juice, milk, coffee, and on the weekends exclude eggs and sausage. We loved this place and will stay again.
The front desk staff gave us that welcome feeling as soon as we walked into the lobby. After check in they offered us to "help yourselves" to the bowl if mixed Tootsie Roll delights. It made us both smile! Great touch. The outside was clean and tidy. The room was clean and the beds had us both sleeping through the night. Quiet property. Breakfast was well stocked with items for everyone's choosing. The treat was the passion juice!
Clean, comfortable and very good value. The furnishings were a bit dated, but overall I would recommend this hotel as a very good value. We did not use the breakfast area, as we were meeting family for breakfast, so I can't comment on the quality of the breakfast.
I was extremely pleased with the room. We stayed in a standard king room.We usually stay in hotels that have a lobby with elevators because they are nicer with better security and the parking lot isn't right outside your door. This room was very clean, fresh, had nice linens and up to date decor. The vanity is outside the toilet and shower room. My son and his friend slept on the floor, and we sat on the floor to play games. Great value and experience! I would definitely stay there again!
I only book this hotel when I'm in Auburn. It is easy to reach, right off Highway 80 and is central to Old Town Auburn. The staff are always friendly and will do all they can to make sure your stay is great. The breakfast room is clean and has something for everyone for breakfast.
We needed a place to stay since I80 was closed to Reno. Also we had a new adopted dog with us and this hotel was so accommodating and friendly. The manager kept checking on highway conditions and finally we made it to Nevada.
Was not expecting much but everything was great down to the breakfast. The mountain was closed so I had to stay somewhere, happened upon the BW. Will stay again for sure! Clean comfortable and quiet. Got good rest in a comfy bed.
Good Local... Great town to explore. Had we known about Auburn when we were kids, we probably would have moved there. Very good eating variety. Shopping Old Town was fun along with the Ale House for food. Go to Magee's for dinner.
We have stayed here several time, always clean and convenient to freeway. The staff has always been so welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is pretty much standard but nice to be able to get something to start your day.
Great place to stay while traveling with our dogs. Convenient to many places in Auburn. Easy on and off highway. Will stay here again when in the area. Staff friendly and professional. Parking plentiful.
The Best Western Golden Key is somewhat unassuming, but the staff is extremely professional and helpful and the rooms ar equiet, clean and comfortable. I was afraid it would be noisy due to proximity to the highway, but it was blissfully quiet. Being offered a snack upon arrival and breakfast on departure were nice touches and much appreciated.
The beds were very uncomfortable in our room. We spoke with others in our group and all felt the same. They need to install new mattresses before we would consider staying there again. We have stayed and many Best Westerns both in the US and in Ireland and the experience was fabulous. That is why we did hesitate to choose the location in Auburn, CA. We most likely will choose another place to stay next year.
overall very good. mattress was to soft for my liking and does need new carpet. very good freeway access. close to several places to eat. next to a grocery store. very pet friendly. Front desk person was exceptional. would recommend this motel to anyone needing a place in this area.
Modern rooms, nice bed and good CATV; swimming pool if you're into that. Breakfast is so-so, cold cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. - nothing spectacular but adequeate. Negatives - you will get some traffic noise due to proximity to HWY 80.....probably most quiet rooms would be in the rear building.
After a long day on the road, this is a good place to stop and get a good night's rest. Easy access from the interstate. We had a room on the second floor and it was very clean and bright. Staff was friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure and towels were what you might find a higher priced hotel. The lighting in the room was amazing. Very bright! Our only complaint was the low, small toilet. Breakfast was adequate. Breakfast area was very clean. Adequate parking, but spaces are very narrow.
Served it's purpose, a good night sleep. There is no elevator. Three buildings, each are two story. Had to sleep at ground level as cannot climb stairs. Room above had kids visiting occupant - unacceptable behavior caused me to call mgr. as the noise went on for over an hour with no sign of an adult to stop it. After advising mgr. the antics did stop and the rest of the evening was quiet.
We have made several business trips to Auburn this year. We always stay at this Best Western because the rooms are clean, the mattress is comfortable, the rate is good and we are always treated well. They seem to be always busy so I would recommend reservations as soon as possible. We also enjoy feeling safe with our car parked just outside our door. The heat and air system is great. Room is instantly warm or cool. We like walking next door for breakfast or lunch at Awful Annies. Great food!
We had an excellent stay. The grounds were clean and well kept. The room was excellent. The housekeeping staff responded quickly and cheerfully to a request for an extra blanket. Highly recommend this establishment.
We were in town for an early morning gymnastics meet and stayed here as it was only 10 min from the gym. This hotel is clean and quiet with a decent breakfast starting at 5:30am and let's be honest...when your kid as a sporting event the next day, what more do you really want then a good nights sleep and a good breakfast in the morning? The decor is exactly what you would expect, not fancy but not run down and everything very clean. We all slept soundly (and comfortably) in our clean and quiet room. The complimentary breakfast starts at 5:30 even on weekends which was an absolute dream come true considering we were up at 5:30 and getting ready for the meet. My daughter was able to eat a yummy, well balanced meal and was well rested for her meet. We will absolutely stay here again when staying in Auburn.
Best Western Auburn: very nice place. Location is good. My room (185) was large, clean and well laid out. Internet (5/5) was excellent, both wifi and ethernet. Sheets are clean, water is piping hot, the woman at check-in was very pleasant and helpful. My room had twin sinks. My room had a side table for the easy chair with a trapezoid shaped top, i. e. the top tapered, almost like an optical illusion, so it was easier to fit in a corner. The building style is older, with no interior corridors. To make the electricity work in the room, you have to insert your key into a slot, like in Europe. Breakfast is as expected. Negatives: no elevator. My door didn't always open when I put the key in the door lock - the light went on, but the door wouldn't open. Value 5/5. Overall 5/5.
Stayed on a visit to William Jessup University to see our daughter. Got in late but front office friendly and got us right in. Beds were comfortable and rooms nice and clean. Quiet sleep with no noise even though we were on a main road. In the morning the breakfast was fine with many options. Great spot as we were only needing one night. Auburn is an adorable town and staying at a best western we know exactly what we will get. We will stay there again.
The Best Western Golden Key, Auburn, CA is as close to perfect as you can get. Every detail you expect at a Best Western was delivered in what seemed like an effortless seamless manner. It is a lovely property accentuated by gardens you would expect at a much higher price point. The rooms are comfy, spotless and well appointed. I would normally include some interaction with the staff but because of their flawless attention to detail except to say that they were all friendly we didn't need to interact with any one after check in.
Ikedas, several restaurants, an ice cream shop and Raleys Grocery store are all within walking distance of this lovely property that is right off the freeway. Arrive early to the breakfast room for the best selection. This is the place we always stay when in Auburn to visit family.
excellant we loved the hotel and the surrounding area. Will tell friends about the quality and cleanliness. there were family entertainment facilities close by that were a great value for the enjoyment and fun for the kids
The hotel was clean, staff friendly and breakfast ample. This hotel is in close proximity to both CA I80 and Hgwy. 49 and easily accessible to Old Town Auburn and the American River. The rooms, grounds and pool and spa were pristine!
We were greeted when we first came in The attendant gave us the rundown /pricing and all the info He treated us really good let us know about the continental breakfast that they had also about the room key how it controls the air air-conditioner we got to watch the 49er football game .The room was very clean He got us a parking spot for our trailer which was attached to our truck very clean rooms again I would stay here again
We rated this hotel as one of the top-notch due to following observations: Front Desk- very professional and served customer with a great smile. Rooms- very clean, well made. Ample amenities such as towels, pillows. Furnitures are well-maintained, no scratches visible. Housekeepers- met two housekeepers, very courteous and greetful, and always address very respectfully and with a big smile. Hallways and parking spaces very clean and well maintained. Breakfast, although it's continental, variety of food, fresh fruits, different kind of breads, different kind of juices, yogurts, fresh waffles, variety of sweets, were served and well-replenished at all time. Dining Area was very clean and there was always a presence of food service personnel to assist. It was a great and restful stay. A very big 5 star for a small hotel.
After checking in, I realized that we had stayed at this Best Western before on our way to Reno. It was a convenient stop and we weren't far from many restaurants. Also enjoyed going to Ikeda's and Machado's pie and fruit stands.
This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel while visiting Auburn. We are always very satisfied with the room. Comfortable bed, very clean, AC worked great, big bathroom. Check in easy and friendly staff. Very easy access right off I 80. Excellent restaurant right next door, Awful Annies, which was a bonus.
With the exception of the desk chair and the low water flow in the sink and shower the hotel is an excellent value. The beds were too firm and bouncy for my tastes. The swimming pool and hot tub are well maintained and a welcomed amenity after white water rafting
I was impressed by the cleanliness and new-like condition of the furnishings and the modern climate control technology. The pool looked clean and inviting. The breakfast offered many options and the cleanliness of the breakfast area was great. Except for the need of restriping of the parking area, everything else was excellent.
Stayed here for the first time our way to Lake Tahoe . We couldn't ask for a better experience at a new hotel. The staff was efficient, friendly and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Upon check-in I was informed juice and cookies were available in the next room. They started serving breakfast at 5:30 AM and had a great assortment of tasty and healthy choices. The room was spotless and most important the bed was very comfortable. We will be returning here from now on .
From the outside the Best Western Golden Key looks like a roadside motor in leftover from the 50s, and we weren't sure what our stay was going to be like. We were quickly re-assured. The gentlemen at the front desk (the owners perhaps) were friendly, welcoming and talkative. In a good way. The room was basic, but clearly recently renovated- nice fixtures in the bath, very clean, comfortable bedding and a great bed. The carpet was a little worn, clearly it has not been replaced yet, but it was clean. We were a little disappointed that the mini-fridge did not have a freezer, as we were travelling with a cooler chest and had hoped to re-freeze our ice packs. Pleasantly surprised that there was no noise in the room from the nearby highway. Very reasonably priced. Travelling with dogs, we are always pleased to find places that accept pets. Not only does Golden Key accept them, it welcomes them, with a dedicated grassy dog exercise area that provides disposal bags and cans to dispose of the bags in. Breakfast smelled good, and Awful Annie's next door is supposed to be great, but we had meal plans down the road for mid-morning so I can't personally vouch for either. If Auburn itself is your destination, be aware that this hotel is not all that close to downtown/Old Town.
The gardens, which roamed throughout the grounds, surrounding every building, were thoughtfully planned and carefully nurtured. In short, a magnificent feature of this hotel. The entire place was immaculate and welcoming. Warm staff. Balanced and interesting breakfasts each morning. Clean sauna and pool, which was adjacent to a beautiful rose garden. We would come back here in a moment and will recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I stayed for just one night between two rafting trips. I was disappointed they would not allow me to check in a bit early given I was not rafting and was hoping to relax in the room. They did offer to call when the room was ready, but I received a call just a few minutes before the 3:00 check in time and had already returned to the campsite to pick up our rafting group. The room was clean and served our needs for this short trip. We were disappointed with the breakfast as it does not seem to be up to the standard of other Best Westerns at which we have stayed. Again, for a one night stay, this hotel worked fine. If we had a longer trip planned, I may have looked for a nicer place to stay.
Stayed here on the last leg of a road trip to and from Denver. My room was recently updated (except the tub shower, which is fine). Wifi access was fast and easy. My favorite part of my stay was swimming in the delighful, refreshing pool. The hotel is right by I-80, but I didn't hear traffic noise in my room, and it was easy to ignore by the pool. Awful Annie's next door gives hotel guests a 10% discount. I will stay here again and highly recommend this hotel!
My husband and come up here to do some white water rafting. This is my second time staying here and each time the staff has been very friendly, rooms have been clean. I like their free breakfast, they have choices for people who like to eat healthy.
Great place. I have never comes complaints! This is one of the best laces I've ever stayed. Bed was perfect, bathroom was huge and updated. Fridge & coffee maker!! Customer service was fantastic. Grounds were well kept. Beautiful swimming pool. And free breakfast!!!
The service provided by the staff at this Best Western hotel was above and beyond the normal. They were efficient and caring in all aspects of our stay. Location is easily accessible from freeway. Highly recommended.
The Best Western Golden Key in Auburn always has a clean room with a comfortable bed and the rooms are quiet, which is surprising because just a few feet outside the property is a busy highway with thousands of trucks and cars racing by.
I love the folks who run this hotel. I have stayed at this property for two extended stays under stressful circumstances and both times the staff could not have been kinder, more helpful or accommodating. Hearts of gold, truly. The rooms are clean and relatively large and comfortable. They may not be the fanciest, but they are a great value and much better than others in this price range. Always sleep comfortably here and breakfast is pretty good - ex, waffles and yogurt. I understand some rooms towards the back of the property may get freeway noise, but I have always stayed in ground floor rooms at the front of the property and am not bothered by noise.
Exceptional, thoughtful staff made our intense Tevis experience far more relaxed than we thought could happen. Check-in was thorough, thoughtful - covering everything that we needed (particularly how to cool ourselves down via interesting controls for room, pool, hot tub) to relax.
The hotel was very good for the price. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. We had the pool and hot tub to ourselves every night of our 4 night stay. The hotel guests were very quiet and we didn't see any kids running around. I would definitely stay here again.
Front Desk, Breakfast and Housekeeping Staff were very Professional, courteous and friendly. Easy on/off access to I-80. Highly recommended. My reviews are brief and to the point. Being verbose is a waste of my time.
We have stayed at the Best Western Golden Key several times in the past year and a half and find it to be a great place to stay when in the area. We make several trips a year between Southern California and Humboldt County and find it a good middle of the trip stopping spot, especially since we are able to visit relatives while in the Auburn area. The staff at the Golden Key is extremely friendly and helpful, and the rooms and their accommodations are very comfortable. This will continue to be our motel of choice when in the area.
This is a clean hotel with nice staff. The beds are comfy and quite. The shower has VERY little water pressure both in the sink and the shower! The TV has very limited stations and the mini fridge is very mini with no freezer. Another flaw is, in order for the AC to stay running you have to keep a room key slotted into a special switch. Not very convenient in the California heat!
The rooms are pleasantly decorated. The employees are helpful and friendly! Many Best Western Hotels and Resorts accept dogs as we travel with our dog and will only stay at a dog friendly place. The rooms are also very neat, clean, and comfortable, like a home away from home.
We stayed here for one night on our trip through the gold country of California. Auburn has only a few hotels, Best Westerns aren't usually our first choice but this was the only place available and we got the last room. Based on what I experienced at this Best Western i will put them on my list of places to stay when traveling. The hotel was older but have been recently remodel inside, very clean, friendly staff and the flowers around the place were just magnificent. Really and enjoyable place to stay. Resturarants and grocery store were all within walking distance.
We had a great stay at Best Western Golden Key, Auburn California. The location is very accesible and close to everything (restaurants, stores, supermarket, kayak rentals and anything else in between). The hotel is super clean (the room, swimming pool, lobby and the garden area). They had BBQ with tables and sitting area. We used the BBQ because all restaurants close at 9pm. The overall exprerience was fantastic. We enjoyed our family picnic at the clementine lake, which is about 10 mins drive from the hotel.
rooms are good, pool and hot tub are nice. we had ants in 2 rooms and a bleached stain on the carpet of one. Breakfast was fantastic! One of the night reception desk men was very surly. Linda was fantastic!
It was easy to work with the staff to book 16 people on a birding tour of the area. I came the day before and all of us stayed for two nights, then I and another leader stayed another night at the end of a 10 day trip. Everyone was very accommodating and I know, myself included, many left key cards in the room and needed duplicates. Staff was very attentive and positive
Our stay started out on the wrong foot. We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times before so I was somewhat familiar with the layout. When I made the reservation I had asked to be placed in the certain section so that we could easily park our classic car and trailer where we could see it from our room. When we checked in they informed us that were to be in another section where parking a trailer would be difficult. I was not happy and the man who checked us in was not very apologetic or willing to make us feel more comfortable. It set the beginning of our stay on a very sour note. But everything ended to be ok when Cindy (I think she is the hotel manager) did her best to make our stay end on a happier note. Thank you Cindy!!
Overall a good value & Old Town Auburn is charming & I highly recommend exploring there! The wheelchair accessable room did not have a roll in shower which is needed and was disappointing but otherwise the room was fine.
This is a solid Best Western property. Though not luxurious, it is reliable, clean, and conveniently located in Auburn. It is walking distance from a grocery store and several ATMs, as well as fast food restaurants. Right around the block are a few gas stations and some good diners. I have stayed here multiple times, mostly due to the cleanliness of the hotel, which is always top-notch. The rooms are reasonably priced. I highly recommend it to those needing a clean, comfy place to spend the night while in transit on I-80. Also: Excellent WIFI.
Front desk was very helpful, offering up great restaurant suggestions. Room was large, clean and comfortable. WIFI access was easily connected and stable. They had an incredible continental breakfast with so many choices. I really appreciated the hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit as being an option. I would recommend this hotel. It's a bit out of "Old town" Auburn, but worth the short drive.
We like this hotel. The entire staff are very friendly and helpful. The room is clean and comfortable. There are many breakfast choices. We didn't use the pool, but it looked very inviting.Check in and out was quick and simple!
We're BW members and we come to Auburn every other month or so for a few days at a time to visit family. We've always stayed at BW Golden Key and never had to stay anywhere else. The staff is always incredibly helpful and professional, they've gone out of their way for us and we've never had a problem. The rooms are always very clean and we see the housekeeping staff working hard and with detail. Our large dog is always welcome (with the usual fee), and the grounds have seating areas, a lawn area for dogs, grills, tables and a little putting green I think. Pool and hot tub are always clean and well kept too. As with any great location like this, there is some highway noise, but it's not bad at all and totally worth it for the location - walking distance to grocery store and a few great restaurants.
Very nice stay, staff very pleasant and helpful. Motel is an older facility but well kept. Room was clean and AC/Heating good not noisey. Carpet needs to be cleaned more frequently. Internet was good not excellent but better than most. Breakfast was very A-Typical Continentail style,Boiled eggs, toast, bagels, muffins, instant hot cereal, juice, coffee, and Hot Waffle machines. All was very well organized and presented. Attendant kept things clean and filled.
Service was professional and friendly and helpful. Grounds and rooms were immaculate. Best stay at a Best Western ever. Would stay here again and recommend to friends travelling in this area. AND they had a waffle bar!
The couple running the front desk at check-in where efficient and friendly. They were thorough in explaining how to operate the thermostat, location of the room, pool hours, etc. While the hotel provides a continental breakfast, we opted to dine at Awlful Annie's Restaurant next door. The restaurant gives a 15 percent discount to patrons staying at the Best Western Hotel. The room itself was clean, the beds & pillows were very comfortable, which our stay pleasurable. There is a built-in hair dryer, shampoo & conditioner and shower gel dispenser that is a lifesaver if you forget to pack yours or you just want to save on space by not bringing soap &toiletries and use theirs. There is an iron/ironing board that came in handy. Noise level, pretty much quiet and the hotel was full the night we stayed there. Although, something odd occurred just before we fell asleep at 11:40 pm, we heard a knock on our window. After laying still somewhat fearful waiting for what would happen next, there was no other sound. We Crept carefully to the window and peered through the drapes to see a terrarium with sand, shells & candle but no plants in it, had been placed outside the window on the protruding air conditioner. It was not there when we checked into the room and no other rooms had a terrarium outside their rooms. However, that is not the hotel's fault; just a bizarre incident that cannot be explained, a prank, mistaken room intended asa gift for someone else, someone drunk or tire unable to carry plant to their room? It was still sitting outside during our check-out
Appreciated the "green" approach this Best Western Hotel offered. Very clean room, grounds quite nice with the smell of honeysuckle outside the room. Location convenient and near enough to my destination to Folsom
While this is an older hotel it has been updated and was very clean and nice. We stayed two nights but needed a third to accommodate some family business and they very graciously helped us. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If I'm this way again if stay there as it us so convenient and nice
Seems all the best westerns are the same. There is consistancy, which is nice. Our room was clean and comfortable, lots of room. every thing worked great. They have a nice pool and hot tub. It is close to some great restaurants that are in walking distance. It is close to Hwy 80 so there aren't any spectacular views of the mountains around here. Its close to Gold country actives. The customer service was great, very friendlily.
This is a very nice hotel. Very friendly staff, grounds and rooms very well kept and an excellent breakfast bar. The only area that needed attention was the carpet. It appeared well used and needed to be replaced I would recommend this hotel anyone who is picky about where they stay.
What a great overnight we had at BW Golden Key. Traveling with a large dog is sometimes a challenge, but this place was just perfect. Reasonable pet fee, nice size room, very clean, comfy and beautiful grounds. Well located right off the 80 and quiet.
The staff was very attentive and very welcoming. Our room was ready early for us which was extremely helpful as we needed to get ready to leave for a wedding. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, there was a nice assortment of breakfast items.
Our stay was due to our daughter's school field trip. Staff were pleasant and professional. The pool was fantastic. Our room was large with two queens. The beds were very comfortable. The room was very clean. I would return again.
Absolutely a great place to stay if you are in Auburn. Great room, great people to work with at the front desk. Complimentary breakfast. Wish I had time to use the pool, but I didn't. Love this hotel....
Nice hotel. Very accommodating. Just a few minutes from old Auburn. I need handicap accessibility. The room is well designed and parking is excellent. Reasonable complimentary breakfast. Easy on and off the I80 freeway. Refrigerator and microwave in the room.
This is an excellent accommodation; attractive inside and out, super breakfast, fast Internet, and super service by a very capable staff! I stayed 7 days while visiting family nearby, and had an extremely pleasant experience.
Totally enjoyable. Had a very good time, Had my dog with us and she was good and enjoyed the room also. Will stay here again soon. Thanks. Also there are a number of good resturants near for dinner. Very good breakfast at the Best Western Motel. Thanks again for a good stay.
This is a great hotel right off the freeway...Clean rooms, friendly staff, free breakfast and pet friendly...I have stayed here multiple times and am never disappointed...my last stay was May 2016... had a great room and internet service...breakfast had a nice selection of food with some healthy options....
Having done the same trip a couple of years ago and our last motel left us feeling we needed to be disinfected, this was a welcome relief. First I noticed the gardens around the motel were well tended, and pretty and as another reviewer said beautiful roses. We had booked a very reasonable price over the web and found the room good, clean and comfortable . nice toiletries, energy saving, easy to use features on their aircon/heater controls, easy access wifi and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Free breakfast was, well presented with a range of choices. Located outskirts of Auburn off the freeway it was ideal for us traveling and spending a couple of days inthe area.
When packing to leave, my husband closed a dresser draw before I had finished emptying it and I did not realize it until I was waiting for my flight at the airport. A call to the reception desk resulted in the staff going to the room and retrieving the items several items, boxing them up and sending them to me priority mail. I received them a day and a half later. That's great service.
Right off the highway, very convenient for our long road trip. We were traveling with our small dog, and got a room in the wing of the back of this hotel, so no highway noise at all. This hotel has a lovely "old school" or "retro" feel to the beautifully landscaped grounds, but the rooms are nicely updated, and there's nothing "old" about them. Our favorite part -- there are picnic tables (even BBQ's) out on the big, sweeping lawn near the pool and hot tub. We were so happy to eat dinner from our cooler, let our doggie enjoy being right there with us, and savor the twilight in a peaceful setting after our long day of driving. Later that night I walked our dog in the neighborhood and felt entirely safe. This one gets an easy five stars from us, as the perfect road-trip stay, and we hope to return.
We stayed one night at this motel and it was fine. The decor is a little dated, but the room was very acceptable. The complimentary breakfast included waffles, a choice of three dry cereals, some yogurt, hard boiled eggs, prepackaged sweet rolls, oatmeal packages, apples, and bananas.
We were in Auburn, CA for a one night stay and this Best Western was perfect. Comfortable & clean. Requested an early check in and got it. Are room was ready and waiting @ noon instead of 3:00PM. I would definitely stay here the next time we are in Auburn, CA
We were in Auburn, Ca for a wedding. This Best Western was suggested. It was convenient location from the wedding we drove up to attend. Clean and friendly hotel. It was fun to explore old town Auburn. I have always passed by Auburn on our way to Tahoe. I usually stay at Hilton properties but this was the hotel I chose and very happy I did.
We flew into Sacramento at night and wanted to get part of the drive to Tahoe out of the way, so we decided to stay in Auburn. This motel is very clean and rooms are very nice. My only complaint is that it is up against the highway and you can hear the noise. Not really an issue for me, but it is an issue for my husband so I end up having to hear about it. The breakfast was fine by free motel breakfast standards. The lady working the front desk (I wish I would have gotten her name) was super helpful when I was trying to use the Apple computer they have in the lobby, to print some lift ticket info. Apple and I don't mix and she was very patient with my extremely basic questions. Anyway, aside from the proximity to the highway, a very good place for an overnight and way cheaper than the Holiday Inn in Auburn.
My wife and I were in town for a leisure trip and had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The staff is Extremely pleasant and helpful, the room was nice for the price, clean and very comfortable bed, and the breakfast was good also. We also ate one morning at the restaurant next door, awesome breakfast. We will stay here again when we come back to the area.
This was our third stay at the Best Western Golden Key, and it will remain our motel of choice whenever we are in the area. It is a good stopping place between the Los Angeles area and Humboldt County, where we visit relatives. I have asked for the same room each visit, and reservations has made that possible. We stay in the older section since it meets all our needs. The grounds are very pretty with all kinds of blooming flowers, and the staff has always been extremely friendly and pleasant and helpful. The pictures of the Old West in the lobby and breakfast area are very interesting and add to the feeling of the Auburn area.
Our only gripe - the pillows - they appeared to be cheap, too soft, well worn, etc. The carpeting needs to be replaced. Rippled in spots. Quiet place. Great breakfast. Great location. Difficult to find traveling from Placerville to Auburn.
Best Western is on our list for future stays while traveling. Price, quality of service and amenities were more than satisfactory. We were very pleased with the efforts of the entire staff to insure our stay was without any problems. The one small issue we had was handled on the spot and made right.
We had a chance as a couple to go up north for a couple of days to the Motherlode Gold country. It was good weather and a pleasant stay. When we arrived it seemed there was some confusion in my reservation dates but the front desk quickly updated my reservation by two days. This was very helpful as a large group was gathering for an event we were part of. The room was quiet with excellent air conditioning controls. There was also a very nice breakfast room. We enjoyed our stay.
Traveling with a pet, we just needed to sleep. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. Just don't feel it was worth the extra money for a small room with a lumpy bed. We could hear loud noises from the room above, and a gardener woke us at 7 am Saturday morning with a leaf blower (working at Burger King right next door.) We might as well have stayed at Motel 6 and saved some money.
We choose this hotel the first time for a couple reasons. It was a reasonable price and we were told it had been recently remodeled with new mattress. We came back because it was very clean, quiet, well kept rooms and grounds, we were treated well and we like the convenience of parking in front of our room.
For a great sleeping and breakfast experience there is no place like Golden Key. Employees are personable, friendly and helpful. The grounds are well maintained and the food is fresh. Great place to relax and enjoy.
Actually a former resident of Auburn. Visiting family and friends on a little Easter retreat. Chose to stay here as it is located close to plenty of dining, easy freeway access, and kids live close by. Room was great, clean and nice and quiet on the 2nd floor . Older motel but been updated and in good shape. Typical continental type breakfast included, but so many good breakfast places nearby. (Awful Annies, Sweetpea's and Katrina's are all great local breakfast/lunch dining.) Staff was VERY friendly and helpful. Weather was not really warm enough to use pool, but pool and spa were clean and inviting. Nice picnic tables and patio tables on grounds as well. Highly recommend staying here. No complaints.
Because of the hot tub and breakfast offer, we chose to stay at a BW. They are always clean and friendly. The back section was quiet and away from traffic. This BW is easy on and off from the freeway. There are many restaurants to choose from including Ikita!
We were a big group of us attending a wedding at Forest House Lodge and we booked into Best Western Golden Key. We were amazed at the friendly service at the front desk. The two ladies, both sisters, were so kind and let us check in early and gave us the red carpet treatment. We drove for almost three hours and in the rain, so we were simply delighted to have our rooms and relax for a while before going to the wedding. The rooms were large, clean and had so many unexpected amenities.
Stayed overnight while traveling summer, 2015. Tasty complimentary breakfast. Friendly staff. Check in and check out was quick and easy. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and roomy. I would stay here again.
Quiet, well-kept, comfortable, consistent, 2 wash basins in cabinet outside bathroom, experienced staff, super breakfast, easy to reach near I-80, stayed there for the fifth time. Many new Best Westerns have little kinks here and there, e.g. electric outlets in foot of desk lamps do not fit the adapter for computer, but in this motel everything has been thought of.
The rooms were very roomy and the beds were very comfortable and so were the pillows. The rooms were clean and airy. The management was really helpful and very nice. They also have a free breakfast in the morning. Had a pool too.
My new wife and I stopped here on our wedding night before heading further onto our actual honeymoon spot. The room was very nice. The bed had plenty of pillows to make you comfortable and it was very clean. There were no wierd smells or anything like that in the room. In the morning we got started with thier continental breakfast which was excellent. They had waffles and sausage and various juices and milk along with a barrage of other items. It was well supplied too. The staff were also very nice.
For any hotel, this is a very nice experience. For its price point, it is truly excellent. The staff is cheerful and friendly. Check in and check out were efficient. Although the property is not new, the rooms are very well appointed. The upholstery was nearly new, nice linens on the bed, extra outlets within reach on the desk and bedside, bright lighting from several fixtures, 144mbps WiFi, and absolutely spotless. The microwave and refrigerator are nicely stacked inside a cupboard that is part of a high dresser. Classy.
From the friendly, helpful staff to the clean well appointed yet affordable rooms I was duly impressed. As I was in town for an event they even opened up the courtesy breakfast room a half hour early. It was clean, delightful, and well stocked which made my early morning less stressful. When I asked if it was possible to bring my Canine Companions service dog there was absolutely no hesitation. They even had a wonderful pet park for our dogs use. I would recommend this to any of my friends or clients staying in Auburn and will definitely be back.
The hotel is very nice and looks well kept on the outside. It consists of 3 building and a pool area. The front desk personnel are very friendly and welcoming. The knew I asked for a first floor room and had one ready for us upon our arrival. The rooms are of good size with room to spread out. The bath room is small but functional. It has two sinks out side of the bathroom which makes mornings easier for the family. The beds are very comfortable. The pool was not open due to the time of year but the spa was. We had a very nice breakfast in their dinning room. Also the Wi-Fi worked well with no problems. When we are in the area again we will be staying here.
The hotel is clean and conveniently located near I-80. If you ask for a quite room the noise from the freeway is not an issue. Breakfast is typical for BW hotels in US -nothing special. Beds are relatively comfortabl.
We recently stayed at the best western. The hotel was clean, safe & we found every thing we needed for a quick stay. We didn't use the pool so can't rate it. For the price it's a perfect stop along highway 80. They allow dogs which was a plus for us!
We stayed here for three nights while attending a family wedding nearby. The staff is very friendly and eager to help with any questions/concerns. The room was spotless and the shower worked well with plenty of hot water. Breakfast is fine and there's a good selection of hot and cold choices, although we stuck with cold cereal each day. Hot tea, coffee, & juices are on tap 24 hours and there's always a cookie to be had when you need one?? Reception have 3 guest safes which we utilized to good effect. These are the usual hotel room type of safe with a code lock--good solution for valuables. A short walk from the hotel is a Raley's store where you can buy great sandwiches and other travel needs. We'll certainly stay here again if in the area.
Cindy, Jennifer and Denise do a fantastic job of running this hotel and attending to all of their guests' needs. Conveniently located, great customer service and reasonable rates. Walking distance to great restaurants. Best place to stay in Auburn, CA area!
Category: "Medium Budget." We stayed two nights and used it as a base to tour Auburn (on a whim) and the gold museums in the region. We arrived late in the evening as "walk-ins," amidst a storm that was pummeling the region (it was said four inches of rain fell). The staff person was friendly and efficient, explaining the green energy system in each room. The facility was older but very well maintained and even in February the outside pool and hot tub were open. Burr! The landscaping was very nice. The bed was excellent and comfortable, medium firm. The one big draw back, which earned it the "3" star rating, was the ambient noise. The hotel is next to the freeway and the outside door had no weather/sound striping and the large gaps let in a lot of sound. I used my ear plugs and that was fine. The complementary breakfast was typical fast fare and well done with lots of options.
We travel coast to coast up and down and all around the USA and on a budget to boot and this place really stands out as an Amazing Value! Large, Clean, Quiet rooms with an accommodating staff. Fine Breakfast and a hot tasty beverage make Best Western Golden Key as THE PLACE TO STAY in and around the Auburn Area!
Nice and clean, would def. stay again. The staff though did NOT know the road conditions (snow conditions) he looked at me like .. what???? when I asked about the road. lol he said theres a computer over there. So staff was very poor... but if you just need a room its good.
I've stayed here twice. My most recent stay was in December 2015. I had a king room, which was nicely appointed. There was an upholstered chair with ottoman. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom and vanity area were spacious, and there was reliably hot water for the shower. My one complaint was the prominent smell of deodorizer in the room. It was a pet-friendly room, but I frequently travel with my dog so I know that heavy deodorizer is not always used in pet-friendly rooms, and this odor did not dissipate after being in the room for a while. I had the same experience when I stayed at this motel in 2014, so it was not an isolated experience. It is a nice motel, and a good value for the price, and I would probably stay here again, but I could not recommend it to someone sensitive to strong odors.
We like Best westerns in general because the are individually owned but that does give some range in quality. I give them 5 stars because every thing was just the best. Super clean, organized, breakfast was really good with hard boiled eggs and sausage instead of scrambled egg mix, Fresh fruit, yogurt, and a variety of juices and cereals too. The staff was ultra nice. We will definitely stay here again.
This hotel was a very good value. The rooms were clean, and nice size flat screen TV. The staff were very friendly. The heater was very noisy and came on/off very often all night long, as it was cold and had been raining hard. The included breakfast was the usual high carb of mainly muffins, breads and waffles with weak coffee. There were no eggs, yogurt or fresh fruit. Apparently they serve yogurt but were out. But again, the price for the night was very inexpensive so it would be okay to get breakfast elsewhere. The nearby Joe Caribe Bistro restaurant was very good with fresh ingredients. I would stay here again.
This was one of those unplanned trips and booked this hotel on the fly --- and surprisingly very happy with the result. The room was well maintained; must be just been renovated. Everything was clean and in good working order. Room even has microwave and a small fridge. The clerk was helpful even recommended a great restaurant for dinner. The quality of food for breakfast was good; a staff was constantly checking and replenishing food. I won't mind coming back if I'm in the area and in need of a decent place to stay at a competitive price.
We couldn't have been more comfortable. My husband and I and our dog had adjoining rooms with my sister. The additional fee of $20 for our dog is fair and reasonable. We loved the parking right outside our door. The furnishings and mattress are new and the room was sparkling clean. The heat and air system is the best. State of the art system that works simply and immediately is fantastic. The room is a good size and includes a fridge, a desk with an office type chair and a big lounging chair. I love the fluffy, soft, and nice smelling towels. They even provide and area to walk the dog with dogie bags. We were treated very nice by their staff. We will be back on our next business trip.
We needed a hotel near town, but not too noisy. Our room was back from the road and perfect. Staff very helpful and efficient. Price was perfect and breakfast a nice feature. Because it was on the interstate going to Lake Tahoe, skiers loved the location. We were near family for 4 days and it was a nice retreat.
Comfortable, quiet and clean room. Breakfast choices were more than was expected which was a nice surprise. Hotel staff were very friendly. Easy access to location. This was a great value and a great stay. Thank you!
We have stayed at the Best Western Golden Key several times now and will continue to make it our place to stay when visiting relatives in the area. It is somewhat out of our way in traveling between the LA area and Humoldt County, but we will make the extra drive just to stay at the Golden Key where everyone we have dealt with is very friendly, and the rooms are comfortable and cozy. We have always stayed in the older section and like the decor and size of the room and also enjoy the pictures and artifacts of the Old West that are displayed in the reception and breakfast area.
THIS BEST WESTERN is always pleasant and a terrific stop on the way up or down the mountain on the way into the Sierra -- Tahoe, Donner, Truckee and so on. The staff here goes the extra mile. The beds were firm and the rooms quiet and warm!
I stayed here when my first choice hotel was booked. Glad I did. Very comfortable, clean, and well-run. The breakfast was very good and presented nicely in a well appointed dining area. Very impressed for a Best Western. I would definitely stay here again.
This was our first time at this Best Western. Our room was clean, and the staff friendly, helpful & responsive. The breakfast was satisfactory, but could improve on the choice of items, especially if the stay was more than 2 nights. There could be improvement on the waffle mix. Overall, we would recommend this Best Western. They are also pet friendly.
Great service, clean rooms, better than usual breakfast. Location is busy commercial so don't expect a romantic hideaway. About a 5-10 minute drive to downtown Auburn and conveniently right off the freeway.
Checked in at 3pm after long drive. Found a wonderfully clean and comfortable place to rest and restore ourselves before another long drive home. For a place to be so fully occupied I found it incredibly quiet. Love stopping here when we pass through.
We stayed here two nights while celebrating Christmas with relatives in the area. We have stayed here often when we spend Christmas with them. They have upgraded the décor and amenities over the years and we are very happy when staying here.
Always love staying at this motel. Very clean inside and outside. Staff are always very professional and helpful. An added perk for us is pet friendly and close to our favorite place to eat, Sizzler! We stopped here on our way home because the highway was in horrible condition from snowfall. Ended up having to stay an extra night and it was no problem.
This was a pleasant stay, the room was comfortable, lots of amenities, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, bed had nice fitted sheets, wifi worked well, lots of outlets for phones, etc., clean, I would recommend this hotel.
Perfect place to stay when visiting my Dad who lives in Meadow Vista. Easy on and easy off for I-80. Breakfast is decent but nothing to get excited about. But as I travel alone, it is my choice again and again.
We got a room here and it was very nice and clean, spacious, comfortable, and within walking distance of a few stores. The clerk was helpful in giving us a town map so we could find a car wash, and a few restaurants. I would recommend this hotel. Nice amenities, just a nice visit.
This Best Western is conveniently located off I-80 at the Forestville exit. It appears to be an older style property but the rooms are up to date and comfortable and quiet. There is a good restaurant and bar (Joe Caribe's) a short walk away and it is a block from one of the greatest fruit and sandwich stands in the universe, Ikeda's.
When we visit our kids in California we continue to stay here because it feels and sleeps like home. The trip takes us about 15 hours from Wyoming and it is important to us to have a relaxing stay. We have been staying at this Hotel for quit along time and are familiar with all of the employees. The treatment we receive has always been outstanding.
This is an older Best Western property. We often stay at BW hotels because of the consistency of sleep comfort and the breakfasts are a big plus. This property is right off I-80 and we could hear the traffic very loudly through the bathroom window (it was closed, but single pane). We resolved this by closing the bathroom door (then it was very cold!), and leaving the AC/Heat fan "on" for the background noise. Our room was large and the bed was very comfortable. They had all the amenities needed in the room. Heat in the bathroom would have been nice (the "heat lamp" in the ceiling did not provide much). If you are looking for a choice selection of TV, this location is only "digital" and many of the channels "offered" were really not available. The breakfast was standard continental fare with waffles, pastries, fruits, yogurt and cereals. They offered hard-boiled eggs, and I missed the scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy that a lot of other Best Western properties offer. This hotel is two stories and no elevators. If you find it difficult to get your luggage to the second floor, please make sure you ask for a first floor room. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Breakfast was good, nothing cooked but reasonable selection of food - boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, cold cereal, breads. The room was good for the price. Very clean. Staff was friendly. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Typical motel with heater cycling and due to proximity to freeway, some road noise. That said, proximity to freeway was very convenient.
This hotel is centrally located, on and off to the freeway. Nice exterior and very room, which is most important. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast area, like most places is a bit crowded at times, but still enjoy that you can grab something to eat to start your day. Overall very nice hotel and the staff there was excellent.
We stayed at this location on our trip and we were very pleased , it is pet friendly , it had a smoking room available, the room was very clean , and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable - we had a king size bed , and we slept great and woke up feeling refreshed ! The free breakfast is ok - nothing special - but doable. We would definitely stay at this Best Western again !
Stay was great! Enjoyed the time we were there. The breakfast was fun because we met many other Guests that enjoyed their stay too. The setting of the location is perfect. Walking distance to restaurants and businesses near by.
Almost everything about our room was positive -- comfortable bed, furniture, etc. -- except the sink drained very slowly and the heater was noisy and woke us up when it came on. But we would stay there again and have many times in the past.
This was our first time to stay at this particular Best Western and it was a quiet, comfortable and clean motel. We did not take the time to use the heated pool and lovely spa, but did check the water temperatures and facilities. Very clean and nice. The breakfast room was large and pleasant. The blueberry waffles were a treat. So good! Definitely would stay here again if traveling or attending a meeting in the area.
Beautiful setting for an extremely neatly laid out and clean hotel. I would recommend the Golden Key to anyone needing lodging in Auburn, though a short hike from tourist attractions. Nice deep end in the pool. Great breakfast in the morning. Friendly staff.
The usual dependable, functional quality expected at a Best Western. The room was clean and comfortable. It is an older property but well maintained. Very convenient location just off I-80. Three or so minutes from historic, downtown Auburn with its bars, restaurants and gold mining history. Just down the block from the famous Ikeda's snack bar, fruit and food stand, a description which doesn't do it justice.
This was the best Best Western we've ever stayed in. Clean, attractive, quiet and comfortable. No stuffy, noisy air system--easy to use, keeps the air fresh. Best Western bathrooms are always cold, but not this one. When we asked for a quiet room, they gave us the top back corner. Highly recommended.
For the price range very nice. Very clean nice people I am picky and this place is worth it. You will not go wrong staying here. Saw dogs here so its dog friendly. I am a smoker and they even had a room for me and it smelled clean.
This is a nice, quiet place to stay. Although next to a highway/main street the hotel stayed very quiet. Hotel was full both days, but we never had any problem with breakfast or parking. We would stay again.
The park like setting was great for the dogs. Had table, benches, and bar-b-q along with providing the poop station. They even had a rose garden to sit in and a putting green. Pool the cleanest outdoor pool I've seen. Spa OK. Rooms could be nicer but were clean and still had ref and micro.
Breakfast included waffles, eggs, sausages and kept full. Allot of freeway noise. Walk-able distance to eating places. Close for Placer County wine tasting and Hidden Valley Regional Park. Suspicious looking people in parking lot a night, but they did not stay long.
Overall accommodations were very good. Contemporary room designs. Good breakfast and eating surroundings. Mattresses in good shape for those with back pain. The only bad thing is that only CNN news was offered on TV.
The rooms are good, but the people make the difference! We spent two nights at the Best Western Golden Key in September. The rooms are good just as they are at most Best Westerns. The beds were comfortable and the air-conditioning works fine (which was a good thing since it was almost 100°). What really set this hotel apart was the great service. My wife and I were waiting outside for our ride and one of the employees came out from the office with glasses of water for both of us. He also offered us a warm baked cookie. Both my wife and I looked at each other in shock as we were not even aware that they could see us from inside. It is little things like this that really set apart the good hotels from the mediocre ones. As a matter fact, I am currently at another Best Western and the difference in service is startling. More on that in my next review.
The Rooms are clean & comfortable, with plenty of outlets to plug in all your devices & free Wi-Fi available. The bed, this time, was a little on the hard side, but not too bad. The Pool area is a little on the small side, but nicely kept. The value for your money is very good. We've stayed here a couple of times, in the past couple of years & will again, when in the area.
Nice old style motel. Nice room, decent shower, 2 sinks. Just there for an overnight but would return if in the area. Breakfast was good for us, we don't usually eat the eggs and they did not have any. Fresh fruit, good cereal. Quiet and good a/c.
Several members of my family stayed here for a couple of nights for a family wedding in the area. The rooms are very average, kind of drab to be honest. The bed was comfortable. It was fairly quiet in spite of the motel being full. But try and get an upstairs room if you can. Pluses are the better than average breakfast offerings and the shaded seating in the pool area. We spent a lot of time between wedding activities just sitting around the pool and catching up. One negative - there were way too many places to sign on the check-in form. The front desk clerk highlighted at least 6 places that required initials or signature. It had me laughing, but still annoyed. As an event manager, I've stayed at hundreds of hotels around the country - and this little motel in Auburn had more things to sign than any place I've ever stayed at in the last 10 years! It was to the point where I thought they'd be asking for fingerprints. I imagine the process can cause some delays when there are several people waiting to check in. Not a good idea to start a guests stay with a negative experience.
Iv been to many, many best western's before, but I was very surprised on how CLEAN and updated these rooms are.. (I always ask for a updated room) very impressed with the property and service at the front desk at check in. Lots of places to walk to eat or bbq yourself at there mini park there onthe property that has a few clean grills
