Hotel was very quiet. Our King room was very spacious and extremely clean. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was a step up from other Best Western facilities. Lots of hot and cold options. I eat gluten-free and they had GF Cheerios and Corn Chex, yogurt, eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruit cups, fresh fruit and more. The staff was very courteous. The main building with the lobby, little salon and breakfast room has been very tastefully renovated.
Don't trust the management or staff at this BW. They will tell you one thing and do a complete different and rather than do the right thing and offer the partial refund (that was agreed upon with staff) just repeat the same generalized canned statement five times over. Jayce the manager was pretty rude, even laughing at me over our phone conversation. I'm pretty appalled someone of that level would do something like that. I was unsure if I even had my rooms reserved as there was no confirmation email sent to me.
Sub par for a best western. Old outdated rooms. You're basically in an industrial estate with fast food and a supermarket next door to a McDonald's. It's not picturesque. The parking lot for the estate is full of homeless people. On the upside the breakfast room was nice and they had a waffle machine.
Worst experience and customer service ever in a hotel... and, I've traveled a lot!!! The toilet blew up twice - once with the maintenance person there... never came back, never checked on us, offered a ridiculous refund for a room with NO TOILET!!! Then, management told me it was my fault because there was a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door... they don't even have those anymore - PURE NIGHTMARE... there are so many other options - skip the stinky rooms, poor lighting, crappy customer service and run down facility... that's being generous!
The room was large with a king size bed, a small dining table for two plus a refrigerator. The place was really close to Cal Poly Humboldt College. The pool was closed for renovation or maintenance but was not noted in their advertisement. Breakfast was adequate to start your day.
I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It exceeded my expectations. The place was comfortable and clean. Definitely not luxury but I would surely stay here again if I am in the area. I refuse to pay double the price for the Comfort Inn which is literally across the street and probably not much newer or better. The staff was polite and the breakfast was everything we needed. The rooms are exterior so you don't have a hallway if that's important to you. We never felt unsafe and even if I was traveling alone, I would be completely comfortable staying here by myself.
The hotel is gross. The room stank of cigarettes, there was a huge worm on the floor, the toilet ran (screamed) all night at about 5 minute intervals. The bed had a dip in it so deep it was like sleeping in a hammock. Don't stay here if your goal is sleep or comfort. You will pay Best Western prices for a Motel 6. In fact the Motel 6 next door was half the price and looked to be in much better shape. Also quiet. Additionally the hotel is located in an area that had to be patrolled by police, so clearly not the safest. Spend a little more and stay at the Holiday Inn in Eureka. Or, spend half and stay at the Motel 6 next door.
The room was average but clean and comfortable. The pool area was a bit unique and quiet. Had nice landscaping throughout the property. Many good options for breakfast, the best we had out of our many stays on our road trip. The area wasn't the best especially considering it is a college town with lots of tourists passing also through. Overall it was a nice stay and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Toilet backed up at 1 am. We had a 5 am international flight and did not want to flood our downstairs neighbor. We reported this problem the following morning and requested compensation from the manager and he told me they could have responded with a plunger or moved our room in the middle of the night!!! Totally unrealistic and unreasonable and no compensation for our discomfort and inconvenience. Requested antibacterial wipes from the front desk upon check in and was told there were none available. Witnessed a homeless individual and a dog asleep in the gazebo when we left the hotel at 5 am for our international flight! Too unsafe to chose this hotel in the future because no one is monitoring the property during the nighttime.
20th Anniversary nightmare! Issue with spiders around exterior of room door. Front desk young man removed spider humanely. That spider did much better than my husband. He sat outdoor, in the morning, at hotels gazebo/smoking area, to read a book. (he doesn't smoke, just sitting in the sun reading). He felt something on left eyelid and area between eyebrows. He used the bathroom in lobby to use the mirror, looking for what was on his face. That's when he noticed his left eyelid beginning to swell up! Within 10 minutes of whatever bit him, we were on our way to the St Joseph ER in Arcata. Before leaving hotel, we showed the front desk employee (same guy who removed spider at door) and a maintenance man my husbands swelling eyes and where he was seated outside. Several hours later, husband released with a ER cocktail of meds consisting of antibiotics and steroids. Diagnosis, unknown allergen, possible reaction to insect bite. I'm glad my husband is fine. He wasn't able to do our days Itinerary for July 5th which was a day planned at Ferndale and coastal drive. We stayed at hotel the remainder of the day allowing husband to rest. It would of been nice if someone from staff or management would of followed up to see how my husband was. I guess they didn't do a common courtesy check in order to avoid the appearance of responsibility. The ER co-pay dug into our hard earned and saved monies for this trip. :(
So, when we arrive there wasn't any water at all due to multiple leaks. The guys working on the water issue had their extension cords running through the room to work out back, which is understanding given the water issue. The room completely smelled like marijuana and I'm not sensitive to it, but they had a party in there. We pulled a mouse/rat sized hair ball out of the shower drain and the tub barely drained during our showers. Had trouble getting through to the front desk and they offered no assistance. Also, the internet was extremely slow....just switched to using from our phones. On a positive, the breakfast was surprisingly good.
i rent 2 bedroms i wanted to be close to each other, Angelica the front desk told me that she could not put me close, however a few minutes later a couple came over and she book the room in between to my. she was very unprofessional, and very rude i will never would stay at this hotel, very unpolite front desk personal, i give then not even 1 start she should be fired, very bad attitude.
Very poor room condition. Shower sucked. Rack barely hanging on the wall and would get water everywhere. Toilet was clogged when we arrived!! Not a pleasant issue to have when you just got done with a long drive and needing to use the restroom.
We had a great experience at this Best Western. The staff was great, and the room was clean and had everything we needed. We made the mistake of not booking another Best Western as we headed south. Don't make this mistake; we are only staying at Best Westerns when we travel.
Always the best service and quality at this location. The grounds are kept up and rooms are very clean. So many options for breakfast and everything was so fresh. All the employees were friendly and very helpful.
Our experience at this average motel was mixed. Upon arrival, there was a mix-up with our room reservation; we had booked a room with two queen beds but were given one with a king bed instead. However, the staff quickly rectified the mistake by providing an additional bed. The room itself was standard for a Best Western motel, nothing exceptional. The bathroom, unfortunately, showed signs of wear and tear, particularly with the bathtub which required considerable effort to open. Overall, it was a decent stay, but improvements could be made.
Third or fourth time staying here. Once at another place and it was horrible. I like this place so am sticking with it each time I visit. Place is nice, well kept and clean. Area is a bit sketchy with a large population of homeless, especially at night. According to locals, it is not safe to go out walking in the evening.
Room flooded on first night by drunk tenant upstairs, no other room to move into. No one responded to our call for help, I had to deal with the drunk upstairs and clean up the mess. The hotel clerk looked at me blankly and claimed she had texted the manager with no response????

I stayed here twice in one month while visiting family. I was given the same room both times. Despite informing management of the problems in the room the first time, they made no repairs, and put me in that room the second time. The second visit the problems had become worse, and the heater stopped working. The manager has yet to contact me or return my calls. I cannot recommend this place due to the manager's negligence. it was in the 30s the night the heat went out. i was told they had no other room to put me in, no space heater, and just gave me extra blankets. They offered no compensation, nothing. The sink barely drained, the toilet did not flush unless you held the handle down for a ridiculously long time, one of the bedside lamps would not stay on (clearly had a short), and there was a pervasive stench of air freshener. There was almost no water pressure in the shower, so it took twice as long to rinse. The blackout curtains were ridiculously undersized for the window, making them essentially useless at keeping out light. And the heater had a serious problem - the first stay it would not turn off unless I turned on the AC. The second stay it was even worse, so I turned it off the second day. But when it got cold at night, i had to turn it on, at which point there was a burning smell, and then it started blowing cold air. What is particularly egregious is that after my first stay, they sent a request for a review, and I said the staff was nice, but the room needed help. I mentioned most of the things above. Yet they clearly made no effort to fix any of the issues in the 3 weeks between stays, and instead gave me the room again knowing all the problems were still there. The manager, Shasta, has not returned my calls or responded to the message the front desk people took before I left. I called tonight after not hearing back from Shasta today, and spoke with Monique. Monique was just plain rude. She claimed she'd give the manager my message, but never asked for my name or number. She clearly had no intention of conveying my message. This place allows dogs, has a large grassy area for dogs, and at least one good person working there (Angie). That equals the one requisite star. The room I had twice should not be rented out, yet they not only rented it to me, they charged me for the night for which there was no heat, which is illegal. The manager, Shasta, is obviously trying to avoid her responsibility, so there is no way to recommend this place.
We've stayed here before and stayed here again October 22-28. They have done some updating since our last stay here. Nice large room, comfortable beds and very quiet ( even next to the highway). Housekeeping was great and we always came back to a clean room, beds made and new towels even though we only asked for garbage cans to be emptied and fresh towels. The front desk staff were very polite and friendly and my husband really enjoyed the breakfast each morning ( I wasn't able to due to dietary issues). There are homeless people around but never saw any on the property. There is a grocery store, Dollar Tree, coffee spot, Subway, Mexican restaurant across the street. Easy access to Highway 101 too. We will be staying here again.
Decided to stay at the Best Western Arcata instead of in Eureka, because it looked like a better place to stay with our two dogs. We were not disappointed. The rooms were large with plenty of room for the four of us. There was a very big grass area with gazebo and tables that the dogs loved. The breakfast we had in the morning was great. Lots of choices. The biscuits and gravy were yummy. The staff was helpful and friendly. Will stay here again.
We stayed 1 night on our way to the Redwood National/State Parks. Although I cannot say much about this hotel as we checked in the late afternoon and checked out early morning in the next day, I had no issue during my stay. Pros: 1. The hotel is close to Hwy 101 but not too close (so hwy noise is not an issue) 2. The breakfast selection is definitely above average (among Best Western hotels I have been to) and the dining area was large and clean. 3. The room was clean and all the in-room amenities were nicely upgraded 4. Parking space and WiFi connectivity were okay (about average) Cons: 1. Like other hotels in the area, this is hotel also is very pricey. Even though it was not a peak season (to visit Redwood park), a nightly rate was about $250! 2. The room was nicely renovated, but the bathroom clearly showed the age of this facility. The condition of bathroom itself is below average (among Best Western hotels)
Our stay started off extremely well with friendly and helpful receptionists, a great room, and a fantastic breakfast spread. This, added to the fact the motel is in a quiet region of the Arcata/Eureka region made for a great overnight stay. If I were to give a downside, it would be that the motel is some distance from many of the local dining spots.
This hotel is in a bit of a rough area of town, but I felt completely safe. Rooms are well kept; beds are nice. Breakfast area is clean and well stocked. Staff very friendly and gave cookies at checkin! The proximity to the university as I helped my son move into his dorm was clutch.
This lodging is easy to access off the main highway in the area. The breakfast in the morning has a good variety of offerings to choose from and is popular with guests. Good helpers at the front desk to help with any questions about the area. This is likely the most popular place in this are to stay based on the amount of guest seen here.
Not worth the price like other Best Western Hotels we stayed in. Water pressure in shower was a joke. Hot water adjustment knob was practically not working. either too hot or too cold water. Exhaust fan was too loud. Bathroom had huge dispensers of shampoo and body wash but did not work. It was a lousy stay with average breakfast (may be since we are vegeterains?)
Food in walking distance. Quiet. Comfortable room. Nothing amazing, but a nice place to rest after a day at the beach and before dinner. The breakfast was nice. My sister was going to hit a restaurant for breakfast, but stayed after seeing what they had.
This property is lacking in maintenance, at least in our room. Refrigerator was making noises like the compressor was failing, the A/C while set at 70 degrees could not maintain a cool room temperature, and the carpet was damp and odorous. There were also active ants on the bathroom window ledge. This was an overnight stay so we did not report this at checkout. The management staff tried to charge our credit card a $100 cleaning fee after checking out claiming we smoked in the room. They stated "there was an odor of smoke in the air and ashes on the bathroom window ledge". Neither my spouse nor I smoke so this was impossible. Makes me wonder if they add these charges to other unsuspecting guests. A couple of days after checking out, I contacted two different front desk staff members regarding the charges. Both lacked customer service skills, refused to remove the charges, were rude, and one even hung up on me. These "customer service members" should either be retrained or not allowed to interact with the public. Ultimately, I had to resolve the charges through Best Western Corporate. What a hassle. IF YOU CHOOSE TO STAY HERE, use your phone to video document everything about your room at check in and checkout. You might need it!!!
This is a comfortable and clean hotel. We stayed on two separate nights, a week apart, as we traveled to area parks and redwood groves. We loved staying in room 106 and room 110. The beds are very comfortable, the bathroom is small but clean and had excellent personal care products in the shower. Breakfast is the standard fare, but I would have really liked to see some skim milk offered. The staff members were friendly and professional during both visits, and we would definitely stay here again.
I have stayed here many times over the years. It is clean, quiet, and safe. It is very dog friendly and has beautiful flowers. We always stop here when we are on the coast. We have brought others here and they loved it too.
Hotel is clean and comfortable. The breakfast room is always open for coffee and tea. The medium roast coffee is excellent. Breakfast was outstanding...plenty of options. Eggs, sausage, and biscuits were restaurant quality. Convenient to several restaurants. I do recommend.
Absolutely perfect! We were walk-ins and we were able to secure a room for the night. Breakfast was extremely delicious, beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. Definitely worth a stay here! Also very close to restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations.
My room was very clean and smelled fresh. I travel with my dog and some motels I've stayed at have given me their less desirable room, in my opinion, because I have a dog with me. My room was quiet and the breakfast was excellent.
I have stayed at the BW Arcata Inn at least 8 or 9 times in the last three years b/c my child is a student at Cal Poly Humboldt, and I have always been treated with kindness and professionalism. I like it's location to CPHS.
It wasn't terrible, but not what it's rating would have you expect. On the plus side, they serve a good breakfast, and the staff are very nice. But this is still a refurbished freeway motel at heart. The rooms are clean, as others have said, but the bathrooms are teensy. Our ancient toilet had an internal leak, so it kept running, intermittently, all of the three nights we stayed there. It's also noisy. There was a car collector's club as well as some contractors staying there, and every morning they would be slamming doors, running engines, and chattering in the parking lot, which comes right into the room. And there are a lot of homeless wandering around the streets outside the motel, shrieking and doing weird stuff.
Our room was one of the cleanest rooms we've stayed at in a long time. It was spotless. The rooms have been updated. The pillows are of varying firmness which is nice. Upon check-in the clerk was very friendly and let us check in early and gave each of us a free water. This hotel has many places to eat within walking distance and a grocery store. Great location.
The Best Western Arcata is a nice, quiet place. Despite its location next to the freeway, there is very little traffic noise at night. The rooms are spacious and clean, with all the expected amenities. The pool and spa are on the smaller side but still enjoyable, with the pool being an indoor-outdoor setup. They offer a full breakfast, including eggs, meat, potatoes, pancakes, French toast, and even biscuits and gravy.
This is a motel, located near Highway 101, in a convenient location. Breakfast and shower were fine. The main issue was safety features. We initially were given a room on the second floor, no elevators. After going down the stairs and walking from the sidewalk to the road, my wife tripped on a sloping step and landed directly on her nose. She began bleeding from her nose. We brought her to the office, and they were helpful with first aid supplies. We ended up going to a local ER and leaving after they would not allow us into the building, due to COVID. In any case, we returned to the property and transferred to a first-floor accessible room, which was fine. Walking on the walkway between all the rooms, it became apparent to me that the concrete walkway from room to room on ground level is uneven. So, I think this property may not be safe for those with disabilities. If we end up in Arcata again, we will have to see if there is a safer place. Other than that, I do not have other issues.
Four of us stayed here on 8/16-8/19/22 in rooms 217 and 218. The motel is an older BW which has been kept up. It is a two story property (no elevator), with a nice pool and hot tub and very nice landscaping. Breakfast is in a room next to the front desk. We thought it was one of the better BW breakfasts we have ever had. Housekeeping is upon request and you can get towels and toiletries from the front desk. Note: If you leave trash outside your door the ravens may get it. The rooms were good sized with a fridge (no freezer), TV, clock, coffee maker and microwave. The bathroom (toilet and shower)is small. The sink is outside the bathroom. WIFI was a bit slow but fine for email and web surfing. Parking is in front of the room. Check in was great and check out was fine. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
A room with lots of room, an excellent shower to roll up to, a closet, and a table and chairs to eat breakfast or have snacks, I couldn't have asked for more. I believe this is an older motel which has been updated. Most ADA updates are lacking, but not this one. I'd stay here again without hesitation. From the friendly staff, clean rooms, and awesome breakfast room to Best Western's renowned pillows, this motel also has the softest towels. Easy 5 stars from me.
I was shocked when I was told how much this BW was charging a night for a simple room in skid row. Yes, it is clean and tidy. Beds are comfy. My whole family are BW rewards members and have stayed here a lot over the years because it was affordable and clean, even tho the whole area it is in is very seedy . We have experienced drug activity, late night brawls, etc. But we could afford it. It is NOTHING special. When my son and husband came in late after fishing recently, they were told it would be over $300.00 for a double queen! That is over double what they charged last year. This is outrageous. I know there is inflation now, but come on Best Western ! Just down the road is a really fine Days Inn charging $148.00. That is where we will stay now. I travel to SoCal and stay at a very sweet little hotel close to the beach. You can walk to the pier and beach and to the little main street with shops and cafes. They are charging way less for this exceptional little spot in a lovely beach neighborhood. BW is charging this outrageous amount for a nothing special room where you walk thru the ghetto to get to Ray's Market and are right on the 101! Drop your prices! Greedy Corporate Hotel Chain.
Food and Wi-Fi service was good . Room was fair, never cleaned for the 3 nights we stayed. We collected our trash in store bags because trash was overflowing. When a housekeeper past asked if we could have clean towels in exchange for the dirty.
Breakfast was fresh, tasty, with a wide assortment and cheerfully served. Room was clean, large and well laid out. Front desk clerk was helpful even though we had messed up our reservation. Plenty of ice.
This hotel was very clean, beds were comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. Staff were very friendly. We left a pillow behind and they had it when we were passing back through on our way home. We didn't stay for breakfast, but it looked delicious.
people were so nice, the room was very clean and comfortable, the grounds were very pretty, lots of nice plants in bloom, but the breakfast was great. A very hard working young woman kept it spotless, well supplied and just nice. There were many food options, and everything i had was good, really good. It was not your typical hotel breakfast.
This is a great place to stay when visiting the NW corner of CA. It is convenient to the Redwoods, Ferndale, Eureka and Arcata and yet far enough out that you are not hit with the "tourist" charges that you incur when visiting these locations.
The Inn was so cute and our room was clean and spacious. I really enjoyed everything about the room. It was really nice to have that room for the short trip that my cousin and I did. The breakfast was amazing as well! Definitely recommend!
Stayed one night while passing through town. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable, though another guest did recommend that I lock my mountain bike in the room overnight instead of leaving it on the back of my car, chained, due to the area being known for bike thefts. Breakfast was clean and fulfilling, though some additional CoVid precautions could have been helpful (for example, providing tongs or gloves to pick up tortilla rather than having guests use their bare hands). Staff was friendly and attentive at the front desk.
This hotel looks a little tired on the outside, but the room has been recently redone and was super quiet and very clean without an overwhelming cleaning product smell. The breakfast was amazing with a huge assortment of options.
Last minute decision to travel, check-in staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, with very decent amenities (microwave, mino fridge, iron and ironing board, single cup coffee maker, tv, pump style shampoo and conditioner dispenser in the shower). We enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast, and were greeted by staff with a smile and "good morning." Very enjoyable stay. Pet fees apply. Wifi availability. I'd stay again.
Outside needed a little TLC. Was getting some TLC during my stay. In the room, things were very nice. TV network was clunky with the remote that was available. I don't think that's the Arcata Inn's fault. Front desk was very helpful when I had a small problem. Recommended place to stay.
I try to select Best Western hotels whenever possible because of their amazing free hot breakfast. It is a great relief to know that the family can start the day with a wholesome, satisfying breakfast. We can relax in the beautiful breakfast area while we plan our day of excursions. It's wonderful not to have to fight traffic and wait to be seated at local restaurants for breakfast. I've also noted that many construction workers stay at their hotels. It's probably because their employers understand the importance of a solid meal before starting a labor-intensive job. Their hotels truly understand guests' needs!
The Best Western Arcata Inn is a very pleasant place to stay. We experienced a couple of problems that were one of a kind and NOT indicative of a shoddy facility. The staff were all very professional and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the breakfast area was very nice. We plan to return to this motel in July when we are in Arcata again.
Pleasant. friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean throughout. Stayed here two times before, this time with a small dog, a perfect place for her. We had a great experience just like before - I'll be back.
The hotel was decent, our room was clean and comfy and we were offered warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in (yum!). However, this property is located in a really sketchy neighborhood with homeless and "ladies of the night" walking the streets in the evening. We had absolutely no trouble at our property, but probably wouldn't stay here again just due to the area.
This was one of the worst nites stay I've had in a long while.there was an over all toxic chemical perfume permeating the air inside the room that was obviously trying to mask bad odors that triggered an asthma attack that lasted my entire stay.i couldn't even open the windows or door to air out the room because there were people sitting in camp chairs smoking, swearing, and shouting on the landing just one door down from our room, until well past midnight.the towels were so drenched in bleach I felt as though I was wrapping my body in cancer causing chemicals.we got no sleep and paid to suffer!
This is strictly an "in a pinch," motel, though next time I think I'll sleep in my car. The night we stayed there, we noticed a homeless camp across the parking lot. We had loud noisey kids bumping music until 2 a.m. I get you can't always control surroundings, so let's talk about what this place CAN control but failed. There was no running shower water, no lights working in the shower where the toilet is at. All but one lamp in the room was not working. The room, which was cleaned by housekeeping, smelled like a hotbox. I get if people wanna smoke outside but please, if they do it in the room, clean it out! Total bummer place because I love Arcata. Thankfully a local coffee shop I visited in the AM redeemed my experience. This Best Western needs a remodel. Period.
Clean and large room. Most of staff was curt. Lots of highway noise. Very good breakfast offering. Had coincidence of room being cleaned after I informed at desk not to, then card sleeve found missing from purse later that had been in room at time. Only time purse was left unattended during trip. Had requested 1st floor due to senior persons and dog. Was on second floor and about as far as possible from lobby even though staying for 3 nights. Can't see returning, don't want to risk another coincidence or deal with dissing attitude from staff, save one.
This BW was clean and we had a pleasant stay here. We were very impressed with Adrienne (I think that was her name). She is the breakfast room attendant. She was very attentive and seemed to be serious about her job. She kept the counters wiped down and the coffee urns refilled wit fresh coffee. She was helpful to the guests and made them feel comfortable. No supervisor but she was dedicated and was very helpful. Adrienne has a bright future ahead of her. Thank you Adrienne.
This place exceeded our expectations. They accommodated our early check in, found ourselves in a perfectly clean room with extra amenities such as fridge & microwave, and provided an outstanding free breakfast until 10 pm. Just wish we'd brought our bathing suits to take a dip in their indoor pool. Will definitely be staying here again!
We stayed on our way north to Redwoods National Forest. The ladies at the front desk were awesome. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was amazing especially the biscuits and gravy. The girls who prepared the breakfast were very accommodating.
Staff is wonderful. The room needs a bit of TLC. Found a hole in the mattress and a discarded smoke alarm under the mattress. Enough towels but on that subject, the tub had a crack in it. Room was clean and bedding was fresh. Breakfast is provided and adequate with Covid precautions being observed.
Room was very clean and spacious with 2beds, desk and chair, small table and 2 chairs plus plenty of space for our 70lb dog. Was given a doggie treat at check-in. Very cool. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Was there 3 nights. Housekeeping stopped by day 2 to see if we needed anything. Was impressed to see recycling and garbage bins located outside where we could dump stuff every day. They had a nice green area for the dog and a separate area where smokers could sit and enjoy the outside. The water pressure and hot water were amazing. Located off the 101 in a quiet area. Breakfast was a hit and cold buffet. They had gloves you could use to handle the utensils. Food was very good and changed up each day. Haven't stayed at a BW for years, but this was a very nice surprise. Way better than more upscale hotels have been doing.
Easy to find and convenient to the highway. Clean and well maintained, breakfast offerings were good. Beds were comfortable, nice king sized pillows. Shower had excellent water pressure. There is a small indoor pool, we did not use.
Poorly trained front office didn't honor the hotels.com prepay; I had to pay AGAIN to get into the room. Traveling with little kids and a late arrival means ... that resolving the problem right there wasn't going to happen. Now I'm home ... gotta sort through this mess.
Best Western Arcata is always my choice. We had 5 kids, 4 adults, and one Pug, The indoor pool and hot tub are great features. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The walls are not thin. The staff -lobby, kitchen, and housekeeping - helped make the stay the best! They were all gracious and personable and professional - and always smiling! We go here every year. Oh, yes -it is close to great beaches and forests!
Excellent. Large room Includes frig, microwave, office table, kitchen table and three isles between the two queen beds. Only challenge is topography; the motel is hard to find, especially when the Motel 6 sign catches the eye on the street. In my case, I have stayed at this motel in the past so I knew how to find it.
The bed was comfortable, the shower worked well, the pool and jacuzzi setting was nice, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the breakfast was delicious. As is the case everywhere these days, there are unhomed local people nearby, and we heard one yelling loudly in frustration nearby one morning.
I stayed at this hotel on my way to the Redwood National Forest. Hotel was nice and quiet. Front desk staff were very nice and helpful. I was there during covid and their grab and go breakfast was great. I would stay here again.
I didn't have high hopes based on other reviews (mostly about the city of Arcata). But everything was great! Clean room, well maintained grounds, felt secure/safe, friendly and helpful staff, and great breakfast!
I don't spend a lot of time in hotel rooms so I only look for cleanliness and comfort. This hotel pretty much met my expectations on both fronts. There was one thing I disliked it was that the sheets didn't seem to be cotton sheets. I absolutely hate polyester, specially to sleep on. I'm sure glad it wasn't hot or it would have been impossible to sleep in those sheets. Also, the shower was very high and the water stream was directed towards the enclosure rather than down the middle and I couldn't reach it to redirect it. That's a more of a problem of my stature rather than the hotel. LOL
I stayed at the Best Western Hotel in Arcata, CA. I liked that there were a lot of TV channels, the breakfast, and that the pool and hot tub were open. The beds were comfy. They had a fridge and a microwave. Mom and dad did not like we had to reserve the pool and did not realize we needed a different key. The bathroom is small is outdated. I would stay here again.
With a kid at Humboldt State, I have stayed at almost all of the hotels. This one is good for the room, cleanliness, size of room and breakfast. Bathroom OK. Outside one of the guest was noisy in the morning, but nothing serious. A good natural alrm clock.
The staff was helpful and they made a good effort at serving breakfast while trying to stay in covid guide lines. The rooms were clean. It seemed like they might have people that may have been living there full time.
Te shower head is set way up thigh. I could not adjust it so that I didn't get my face wet. I hate your tv service. Stations could not be accessed easily. The remote was confusing, and it only worked part of our visit.
In a row of motels, choose this one! Great breakfast with tons of free selections. Bed is a bit hard. Incredible shower water pressure to work out the kinks! Pretty flowers and great employees. I'd stay here again!
We have come to expect very little service from hotels during COVID, especially in the breakfast department. We have seen many places not even try to offer a grab no go bag. We have seen some offer a water bottle and an apple. Here, we got double entrees for all four in the room and ate like kings and queens. they cooked biscuits n gravy, waffles with strawberries n cream, and served breakfast sandwiches and burritos, along with many other side items. The sleep experience was good and the beds were better than average.
This was a decent room but was definitely showing it's age. The shower head was practically falling off the wall and the room itself was very dated. It was not dirty but felt like it could have been cleaned up a little better
The check in was great. Questionable activity going on in the middle of the night. The previous guest received several visitors between 2am-4am, which I was there to be present for. Thanks to the continually flow of people knocking I got no sleep. The chain was broken, and to add insult to injury, the peep holes are for tall people. I'm 5'6”. The exterior seems ok, the interior is rough. The rooms are cleaned half assed. The surrounding neighborhood is sketchy. The staff fortunately is great! That's the only plus.
We stayed here 2 different times in one week. First stay was decent, room seemed clean and the beds were comfortable, check in person was nice and helpful. When we went back later the same week, the bathroom didn't even look as if it had been cleaned, hairs on the floor and shower wall and in one of the towels. Overall, it was mediocre at best.
During the days of Covid, it was really nice to have warm breakfast burritos ready with paper bags to pack them to go! We really appreciated that! Also this was the first time we brought our dog. Nice big grassy area for dogs to wander and sniff around after a long car ride.
Stayed here multiple times. Staff is polite, breakfast makes it worth the price. Food is basic but there is a variety. We have stayed here with our dog and without and it is a pet friendly place if you are wanting to bring your dog.
This stay my family and I currently had was very welcoming. Under the current team, we were given the treatment that had been lacking with the previous ownership and management. Lisa M. is the benchmark for all hospitality management. Kyri, Dennise in housekeeping, Mina, Gabe, Pio and of course Lisa. Never replace or relieve these valuable employees. They are the glue that keeps this place what it is. I've stayed at other hotels in and around the Arcata area and things just aren't the same. These employees mentioned above make me feel like one of them. I will be back because of them. THANK YOU!
Luckily when we arrived we were able to schedule a 1 hour hot tub/pool time because of covid 19. This was great since we had driven 300 miles. Also since it was California the room was half inside and half outside.
We had very high hopes as we finally got away from the sheltering in place visiting the Redwoods National Park and this was our HQ. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a remarkably bad experience. First, I would like to thank the hotel to be open in this environment and that counts as a star by itself. That is all the good news, unfortunately... We got in Saturday late afternoon and the room looked clean and it seemed that the Hotel staff also keeps the safety protocols. We had booked Saturday and Sunday night separately as we made the late change staying in one place other that 2 and I was not able to change the original reservation. Upon checking I asked if we could stay in the same room as we have 2 one-day reservations - considering that the second night was Sunday night it should not have been an issue. The guy at the desk told me it was fine at check in. Upon checkout I found out that they unilaterally changed the reservation and charged me both nights at the huger Saturday rate. We were in a hurry leaving to hit the parks early so I only realized after receiving the invoice. I sent them an e-mail asking to correct it and never heard back. thankfully, I was able to dispute this on my credit card. This was very sneaky just charging me without telling me. Upon check in we noticed that the AC was on, which was fine at daytime but when we wanted to shut it off, we were unable to. Checked with the reception and received no practical help whatsoever. the noisy AC was on all night, so we did not get a decent night sleep. Next morning the reception promised to get it checked out (apparently this AC unit have had a history of malfunctioning. When we returned, tired after a full day of hiking we realized that there was nothing done. Upon checking this with the reception they claimed they needed permission to enter the room, which we clearly gave them in the morning. it seemed like a good excuse for not doing anything. Long story short one of the guys came over, pulled off the cover from the unit and disabled it so finally the noise stopped! it was warmer than we liked but at that point we did not care as long as the noise stopped... They assured me it would get fixed the next day... perfect - so it will work for the next guy! The fridge: as there were limited food options we prepared with home-made food and used the fridge to ensure our food stays fresh. I wish we did not... the fridge turned out to be a freezer in disguise as most of our food turned out to be frozen solid by the next day, including milk etc. Breakfast: The hotel claims they provide breakfast and based on the rate they are charging for it too. Well…the selection and the portions are extremely small to be nice about this. COVID and safety: Despite the notices, we did not feel entirely safe, we caught the receptionist not wearing the mask just putting it on barely before someone showed up more than once. Overall, we wished we stayed somewhere else!
We stayed here with our two small dogs for 4 nights recently. On the plus side, we did not hear noises from rooms next to us or above us, even though many dogs were on grounds. The staff were upbeat , courteous, and helpful. The breakfast consisted of potatoes, eggs, and sausage wrapped in tortillas, oranges and apples, juice, coffee, yogurt, and cold sweet rolls. Only a few people were allowed at a time to pick up food. Two buildings away is a Mc Donalds and we ate breakfast twice there (actually, I used my car to go through their drive up). A large grocery store is additionally within a 3 minute walk. Also on the plus side, we found the bed to be comfortable, and the location of the hotel is convenient for getting on the freeway (I did not notice the traffic noise inside the room). As for the dog area, which was highly touted on the ad page for the hotel, I put it on the minus side of my ledger. If they grew grass and kept the area groomed, it would be a plus. But the ground is full of weeds, dirt, and various forms of gravel. I felt the need to clean my dogs' feet whenever they were walking there, and eventually I stopped using the area and walked the two down the street to an open field. Other reviewers have mentioned there are homeless looking people in the area. I saw them as well, but none seemed dangerous. Big on my negative list is that the room was small and plain for the price we paid. If we had not been traveling with our dogs we would have selected another hotel, possibly the Hampton Inn across the street just because we felt so cramped.
This Best Western was very clean and I was totally satisfied with all the room amenities, etc.. The Hotel clerk at check in was very helpful accommodating me with a ground floor room. And he also directed me to a great access to view the sun setting on the Pacific Ocean, which I had never witnessed. If I'm ever in the area, I'll be sure to book a room at this hotel again!
This is probably the worst Best Western I have ever stayed at, both in the US and abroad. The property looks and feels old, both in and out. The rooms have dirty carpets, old furniture, and bathrooms that haven't been updated in more than a decade. The entire Eureka/Arcata area is deeply depressed economically, with hundreds of homeless and drug addicts walking along streets and highways. Marijuana and meth use seem to be very common among the young population, and this greatly affects the appearance of the motel. There were many homeless in front of the hotel, and based on my observations, around the property as well. There was marijuana smoking inside the rooms, and it seemed like occasional homeless groups would rent a room just to shower and sleep. The rooms are also greatly overpriced. Based on my experience, a fair price would be 40% of the standard rate. The only positives were a good breakfast, the front desk interaction, and especially the location in relationship to fantastic state and national parks. Overall, this motel and the surrounding Eureka/Arcata urban areas are not worth visiting. Dark, depressing, and borderline dangerous.
Well I got a room straight to pay for it with my rewards points but the hotel decided to use credit card and I was budgeting for using my points the next morning I noticed on my account I was charged $174 when I shouldn't have been charged at all
Its the little hotel that can! Even through our nations in a pandemic this hotel staff manages to keep as friendly as ever. Kyrie with her bubbly helpfulness and Pio, Denise and Lisa just to name a few of the other's manage to retain a family friendly feel to the hotel. Kudos!
Numerous homeless people living around the hotel. Many homeless staying at the hotel. Staff was rude and one staff member was smoking marijuana during shift in the parking lot. Would not stay at this hotel.
I always stay here on my trips from OR to CA - it's convenient, clean, the people who work here are friendly, etc. Gilbert at the front desk was great. He explained the breakfast options (buffet closed because of the pandemic), and also recommended some nearby places for dinner. He also explained the deal of stay 2 nights, get one free, which I was happy to hear about. Altogether another great stay. I also love the grassy area for dogs to walk around on - my pup loves it as well. And though I"m not big on breakfast, I thought it was great that they figured out how to serve breakfast in spite of the very unusual Covid-19 circumstances (they had coffee, and breakfast sandwiches that were easily heated up in the microwave). That's not the kind of thing you can plan for or be prepared for, but the hotel handled it admirably.
This Best Western lived up to our expectations: Clean room, friendly, helpful and professional staff. Room was spotless, great breakfast. We were given immediate help when we had some difficulties accessing our TV (our inability, not a connection problem).
Large, clean comfortable rooms, comfortable beds, a good sized mini-fridge, and a microwave. Breakfast is really good -- lots of fresh hot choices, and fresh fruit and oatmeal and such. I didn't use the pool / hot tub, which is indoors, but it looked nice enough. I was able to stay for a very reasonable price, and was very happy with it. Oh, and others have mentioned how friendly the front desk is, and that was my experience too.Pio was both very friendly and very efficient. Also, they had freshly made chocolate chip cookies at the check in, which is a nice touch.
Staff was helpful and friendly. Quick, easy check-in. Breakfast wasn't fancy had many options and was quite a bit better than the typical continental breakfast. Not as nice as other BW's we've been in, but clean and comfortable enough. My only complaint was with the bed. The bed was supposed to be a queen but was very small, like a double. My husband and I are used to sleeping on a king so we noticed it. Also the pillows were king-sized and very full. They took up the entire top part of the bed and were too overstuffed to be comfortable for my neck. They should probably offer a couple of different sizes/firmness of pillows. Overall it's a fine place to stay when we drive up to visit our daughter.
Excellent room. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Wonderful views. Beautiful location. Comfortable bed with tons of pillows. Room was spacious. They even had hot chocolate. Balcony was a nice touch! Wonderful experience!
I arrived at 1am exhausted and the staff cheerfully set me up with a room as quickly as possible. The room was clean and quiet and perfect. The full complementary breakfast the next morning was fantastic as well!
Plug in shower wouldn't stay uo, phone didn't work, internet slow. Loud traffic noise, loud next door neighbors. Older rooms and tiny bathroom. Breakfast was outstanding! Great selection of foods and drinks.
This BW is a great value for the amenities. Super friendly staff, large grass area and picnic/barbeque area for pets. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh and high quality breakfast items. An overall good experience
The location is great near 101 and 299 yet traffic noise is not noticeable. The property is dated and renovations have helped some but the room bathroom needs work as does the closure of the room and bathroom doors. The room door did not seal well so light and noise were apparent. The breakfast was stellar and possibly the best I've ever had at a Best Western property. Good value for the price.
We recently stayed with a group of high school students for a band event at HSU. We had 4 rooms for 4 nights. This is a two story motel with rooms opening out to the parking and stairs going to the 2nd floor. It is clearly an older hotel in an average area next to Motel 6, Super 8, Hampton Inn (indoor hotel) and Comfort Inns. There is a Carl's Jr just across the street and a McDonalds 100ft away. It is also across from a grocery store and small mini-mall with subway, pizza etc. But the whole area is dated and slightly seedy, but we always felt safe and secure even at night. We were pleasantly surprised by the modern lobby and breakfast area and by the quality of the rooms. The lobby is newly remodeled (late 2018 they said) and very easy for a bigger group like ours. GREAT selection of breakfast items including all the standard BW goodies including extras like almond milk, two different types of waffle batter and pancakes, make your own breakfast tortillas with extra sides like onions and peppers, good selection of cut and fresh fruit etc. Our rooms, while older, were comfortable. The bathroom looks out onto the hotel behind and front window looks to parking, so there is no view. They are large and roomy. We had 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We had a rollaway and there was plenty of room between bathroom and TV for this along with a walkway. The beds were comfortable. The key benefit was the great staff. I worked with them ahead to ensure our rooms were what we needed. At checkin, everything was ready go to. They provide cookies at night (huge plus) and have coffee/water always available. There were a number of high school groups staying when we where there, and all seemed very happy. Great experience. We would stay there again in the future.
Pio came from behind the desk to help me when he saw I was having a difficult time getting in the door. He provided excellent help with menus for delivery. Next morning all the staff were available to answer questions about the area for my relocation to Arcata especially Samatha and Lisa the general manager. I highly recommend this hotel. I choose this hotel because they don't charge extra for a Handicap/Assessible room. Many hotels do.
We planned to stay one night but found everything so perfect we ended up staying five nights. Samantha at the front desk and Jelica in housekeeping were welcoming, cheerful and had great suggestions for local activities. Pet-friendly option was a plus and the free breakfast was among the best we've experienced. We definitely would stay again.
Best Western Arcata. Great place to stay, close to HSU and Eureka. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are large, they have many breakfast choices both hot and cold. They are very dog friendly. This is my go-to place to stay while visiting relative at HSU.
We stayed here on our way home from Oregan. All doors are external. The hotel is older but room and bathroom were very clean. The parking was a little tight as we were pulling a boat. We slept great but there was no power, no hot water and no phone service the next morning. That also meant no free breakfast. The entire area lost power early in the morning. This was not their fault but I am not sure how often it happens. Power was out in Eureka as well. We did notice that there were a lot of homeless people and camps in the area we stayed in. I probably would not recommend staying in Arcata or Eureka if possible.
We had the nicest trip. Everyone at BW was amazing and helpful. The free book was amazing and delicious. Every morning something new and delicious. Plus they are pet friendly! This is the place to stay. Everything you need is close by.
We spent two night at the Best Western Arcata Inn during the Christmas holiday. We found the hotel room freshly remodeled. All new furniture, new paint and very clean. All fixtures functioned. Breakfast buffet was the standard fare of best Western. Hot fresh food with a variety of items. Dining area was large with plenty of table and chairs for all guests. Check in and out was quick and easy. They have a nice large lawn area with a designated smoking gazebo. A combination indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. Too many kids in the hot tub to be enjoyed. Our room was in the rear of the hotel and it was very quite. There is plenty of eating places close by as well as gas and stores. There are several hotels on this street. We saw no issue with people hanging around the hotel. There were people hanging around in front of the hotel down the street, but not here. Would stay here on our next visit to see family. The light fixture in the bathroom was mounted upside down. Lol
Spend one night: no problems, nice room, used the heated pool and hot tub and enjoyed the breakfast. Near the freeway, but could not hear it in the room. we did not have a dog with us, but had a nice dogpark area on the grounds of the hotel
Excellent customer service, newly refurbished, good value for your money & you can travel here with your pets. The area looks a bit scary because of the amount of homeless but they never bother us & we stay here frequently.
This pet friendly hotel is right off of 101 and has many restaurants across the street. I travel with dogs and there is a nice large pet area on premises with poop bags available. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the rooms are immaculate. Wonderful breakfast in the morning and an indoor / outdoor heated pool along with a hot tub. Internet worked fantastically.
Clean, comfortable room, and great breakfast! The staff is friendly and competent. The location is not walkable to anything I'd consider cool, and it was priced a tiny bit higher than I'd expect. Also, the TV channels are SUPER spotty, be warned. However, it's a great place to stay when you're traveling, and I'd stay here again.
Nice clean and comfy hotel. I really wish I could get the adjoining rooms that I requested. This was a family holiday and our rooms were not even next to each other! So disappointing!!! I think that by reserving rooms 2 months in advance it would be reasonable to get the rooms that were requested.
First, I arrived a bit earlier than expected. I was prepared to wait for my room, but the attendant upgraded me to a nicer room, as my room was not yet ready. He explained that as the motel was not sold out, he would rather upgrade me (at no additional cost) than to make me wait. Second, my room was spotless - in fact, the entire property (grounds, lobby. breakfast room, lobby bathroom) appeared super clean. Third, there is a great lawn for dogs - right on the property. Fourth, the motel; is across the street from a shopping center, which contains two very good restaurants - an all you can eat Oriental buffet and Pantry's,. a local diner. Finally, the complimentary breakfast was superb - sausage, eggs, wonderful potatoes with onions and peppers, oatmeal, yogurt, pastries, bagels, bread, juices, and a waffle machine. The coffee was excellent, too. The cook, a very nice young woman, continually replenished the offerings.
This property was wonderful! I extended my stay here (unexpectedly) and they were fantastic about it. The staff we're kind and helpful. The rooms were spacious and cleans and the beds were super comfortable. There's plenty of parking. I would absolutely stay here again!
We stayed at the Best Western Arcata during a lengthy power outage. They were very accommodating and welcomed our dogs. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, and breakfast was very good. There is a nice grassy area to walk dogs and poop bags are provided. Great stay overall!
Had a nice stay at Best Western Arcata Inn, traveling with two adults and a dog. Very friendly staff and big, clean room with plenty of space for the pup and a nice grassy outdoor area great for short walks.
OMAGOSH!! We stay at this Best Western a LOT. We live in Bakersfield but Travel to Arcata to visit my 97 year old Uncle Buc!! Can't decide which I enjoy more!! My UNCLE or my stay at this BW!! I would recommend THIS BW to anyone and EVERYONE!!
Absolutely best hotel in Arcata. Most friendly staff. Rooms are spacious and breakfast is outstanding. Recently remodeled and the lobby looks fantastic. Always fresh baked cookies available upon check in.
Friendly and helpful staff. We had a couple of problems upon first inspection the room, and we were offered a room upgrade. Beds are super comfortable, plenty of space around the sink, and our stay was quiet. Only drawback is cleanliness of bathroom/shower room. Tile grout is dirty, and I understand it would be impossible to clean from years of use without completely removing the tile floor. Even knowing this tile problem in advance, I would stay here again because the price is fair for what you receive.
There is a very large grassy area on the property, best I've seen while traveling with dogs. Convenient and clean area. The rooms are large enough to accommodate 2 people and 2 large dogs without being cramped at all.
The room was clean but needs updating. The hot breakfast was good and had a good variety of food. The worst part is the area it is located in, we went for a walk and the general area is very run down. I wouldn't have felt it would be safe for a single person to be in. The price was ok but for the property and area it should have been cheaper.
We stayed here and it was more than satisfactory. The room was quiet and larger than most. The breakfast was very good and kept clean and orderly. The pool and hot tub was nice. The grounds were neat and inviting.
Of all the properties in this little 'hotel row" you can't beat the service and amenities for the price. The property and rooms are CLEAN. The staff goes out of their way to help and assist and were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for the value, that the service matches. Rare in economy hotel market
I like staying in Best Westerns in the western US as the franchise has certain standards. This location most certainly does not match up to those standards. And for the "discounted" price of US$180 this hotel was a huge piece of merde. It is in a very sketchy location with a bunch of other strip motels and fast food joints and quite a few very sketchy individuals. For around $90 a night it would have been tolerable but almost 200 US dollars? I say "No!" Do yourself a huge favor and stay elsewhere for the evening, any evening!
We have always been happy with this hotel but this time the room was not clean, there was dog hair all over the bathroom, the fridge was super loud, lights in the pool area didn't work, breakfast was watery and very little to choose from. NO COFFEE. Had to hunt down front desk staff to check out, all in all very unhappy this time. Will probably choose a different hotel next time.
Best Western use to be a brand you could trust, but after this stay, I'm done! When we arrived there was no one at the front desk, only a sign saying "We'll be back shortly." Shampoo and conditioner dispensers almost empty and they were difficult to operate. Floor was wet in front of bathroom door. No special consideration for handicap or special needs, only a policy of first come - first served. This was a problem in that half the rooms were on the second floor and no elevator. Parking spaces were small and inadequte for larger vehicles such as SUV's. On the plus side, the flowers around the hotel were beautiful.
Excellent place to stay. Clean rooms, friendly staff, Pet friendly. Easy drive to go sight seeing, beaches and town easy to get to. I highly recommend. We have stayed here twice in the last two months and every time we have been satisfied.
Nice and clean, friendly staff. Breakfast is as expected for this kind of hotels. Please use reusable cutlery and plates! We have climate change problems and you waste resources like hell! As long as this is not solved I will have a mixed feeling about your chain.
This Best Western is older but is still okay. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The WI-FI worked good. The breakfast was very good. The people at the desk were very nice. There was a new person at the desk who could not enter my Best Western Travel Card. He made sure to get someone who could help and honored his promise to provide the proper credit to my bill.
We enjoyed everything about this hotel. The staff was friendly, the room spacious and the pool and hot tub perfect. All outside amenities ie: restaurants and gas stations near by as well as easy acess to hwy 101.
Steps to 2nd floor room, no elevator. Run of the mill Best Western with nice restaurants nearby. Breakfast was better than most B/W. A less pricey alternative to most near Columbia River. We recommend it.
We specifically choose this property and accepted the higher room rate because of the TA ratings. Unfortunately, we arrived later and were assigned a room that had issues. Specifically, the toilet in the bathroom was not property set, and we had to be very careful sitting on the toilet, because you felt like the toilet was going to detach. While the hotel had a laundry room (single washer and dryer), the hotel did not have any quarters on site. Fortunately, there is a car wash next to the hotel where change was available. To the hotel's credit, the front desk staff immediately apologized for the above issue and adjusted our bill by approximately 35%, which is a fair resolution. I would give this hotel another chance, because the overall experience was good, except for the above issues. The hotel has an impressive hot breakfast buffet, including an automated pancake maker.
Your staff was very nice good customer service both at checkin and out. We came in late and was given last room available. When we got to room lights were on pillows were thrown on bed NOT in place wrinkles and slight messy bed towels were used garbage in can shower had been used condiments also used look as if someone already had rented room. Because of young man having problems with another guest and knowing we got last room we just bared with room conditions and reported everything at check out The morning rep said she could add 30,000 points so we could have another room on the house for our troubles which we would gladly except but as of today i have not seen that applied through my email. Hopefully i just overlooked it and it was. Thank you and sincerely Jodi Stotts 530 warren Crk Rd Arcata ca 95521 707-223-2633
I was so happy to find this Best Western as it's centrally located to everything I wanted to do. The staff were amazing, especially Madeline. Rooms are clean, designed with traditional furniture and very comfortable bed, happy blue accent wall to the spa. second story room was very quiet. Breakfast room and reception are beautifully designed. Good healthy breakfast to be enjoyed till 10 am.
the room is the same as last year, breakfast room was expanded from last year to make it easier for the guests. The shower water handle was funky in controlling the flow and temperature but I was able to get a shower
Great lication for dropping off or visiting HSU. I will use this hotel again when driving up from bay area to pick up my student from HSU. Love that they accept pets. Easy on and off the freeway with a few eating establishments nearby.
Big rooms, more traditional decor. Staff pleasant -had an issue with room that was fixed straight away. Good breakfast, hot and cold items. Useful position near the interstate. OK for an overnight stay.
Beds were VERY comfy! We only stayed the one night, but the beds were great. The continetal breakfast was okay. Staff were all very friendly. Would definitely stay there again, if only for the great night's sleep.
1st of all the Room was really dirty. There was a 1/2 a gallon of milk left in the fridge from the people before us. All of the surfaces were grimy and had not been wiped down. This spa was broken for quite some time period which they did not mention in their website. Ice machines both were out of service. There was black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. The outside appearance was of an old style Motel 6. I wouldn't normally pay more than $49 a night for this place and my bill was a $178. I have no idea why this place had such good reviews If they had any negative reviews I would use that option but I have to just give them a one
Love the location and all the beautiful plants and flowers, always in bloom. Great location, easy to get to anywhere. The rest of this I am writing just to fill the 200 characters minimum requirement to make this post.
There were many motels in the area including Super 8, Motel 6, Days Inn and Hampton but I felt as if this was the best in terms of accomodations. We arrived at Midnight but there was a friendly receptionist at the exit ready to check us in and within 3 minutes we had parked our car. My opinion is seemed to be shared as the motel was almost fully booked. You should pre book or go to another motel if you are a walk-in. The room was actually large and the beds were ok. They weren't soft but it was pretty comfy for a motel. The restroom was small but the hotel provided free ammneties for us and there was a TV and desk. No worries about parking, there is a HUGE parking lot right outside of the motel. Breakfast was inside a cozy building and was just like any standard hotel: Continental but also featured a bit of hot food. There is a printer and computer self-serve station there as well if you plan on printing anything. The only thing I have to say in complaint is that room service in cleaning the floor is poorly done as the floor is wet. It is also very near Redwood National Park. Apart from that, a generally positive review and hotel,
The bed was far below expectations for this hotel chain. There were very large divots in the bed where two people would lie. It made my husband and I feel like we were sleeping in a hammock. This does not happen overnight. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk staff, a brief apology was given. Picture (attached) does not do the severity justice.
Easy to find. Lots of travel related services nearby. Well maintained, though whirlpool not functioning. Excellent breakfast, good soundproofing. Pleasant staff. Lots of parking with good outdoor lighting.
Stayed here for one night w my family. 7/23/19. One of the reason why we booked here was the advertised pool and hot tub. Nice to relax after a day in the redwoods. Upon check in we were notified that our room wasn't ready. Fine. We will goto the pool. We were directed to the pool but we were not notified that the hot tub was not functioning. Nor we're we notified in advance (within the cancellation window). So we changed our 3 kids and everyone was hot tub was not available. Needless to say we were all disappointed. On a side note. The grounds bathroom at the pool didn't have any water. When we notified the staff there was no apology nor any form of compensation. This was brought up to the manager and nothing. Not even an apology, only condescending smirks. While I realize this is not a 5 star establishment I would hope for some decent humanity and compassion. Nada. Too late to switch hotels tonight but will not stay past tonight. Rooms and bathroom are dingy. Stay elsewhere.
At $102 per night perhaps not too much should be expected. Stayed 6 nights for workshop at the university. Initial reception clerk informed me they had no ability to choose a nicer room because I had paid through Hotels.com. I asked after second night to have room made up by noon. It happened once. Refrigerator did not work initially so I carried the working wone from the room next door- really did not want to see the dust and dirt behind the fridges. Breakfast was mostly room temp hot food- waffles gummy but the new pancake machine was surprisingly good. Unfortunately only worked 4 of the 6 days. When I asked for help the first day it was down, I was told the supervisor was outside- she stayed that way for the 15 minutes I waited. Coffe is insipid- Farmer Brothers probably the least expensive option for the hotel. You get what you pay for. Overall service level VERY inconsistant - some very good - some very bad. I lay this on the management that should be training. Room was very clean overall but the recliner chair is old and dirty enough to give pause. Air conditioner works nicely, bed and pillows comfy. At $102 probably a good enough experience to stay there again if nothing better available. I would not bring my wife to stay there.
Easy check in process, very clean. Room was a good size. Breakfast was included and had a good variety on offer. Lots of parking. Not that much to do directly around the hotel but we did not explore as were only passing through.
As a family we go up here from san diego for our family trip found this place and have used them ever since. Rooms are nice breakfast is hot and fresh. Check in and out were fast and reservations online wasquick and easy
OK where do I start? Three hour wait to get a room even though we had reservations. After getting the room it was not cleaned! We had to go back to the front desk and get another room. Lights and clock were all unplugged. The refrigerator did not work at all. There was little tissue in the tissue box. Had to ask for more toilet paper. The room was clean but there was a lot of litter around the outside grounds. However, the young man at the front desk by himself tried hard to help but was overwhelmed. The breakfast was quite good. Overall this is a reflection of BAD MANAGEMENT
Stayed here for two nights with my wife and two small children. Room was large and reasonably clean. Kids tried to enjoy the pool, but found it somewhat cold (pool is in a partially open/closed area of structure). Hot tub was out of order both nights of stay.It is frustrating to find important amenities unavailable, particularly during peak season (we stayed during the 4th of July). Continental breakfast was a marginal step up from the normal in that they did offer some hot food choices, but unfortunately they didn't taste particularly good. Overall I would say that this place sits on the lower end of offering a modest value, but having said that I still found it to be rather expensive for what you are getting (thus the "lower end" of value). Staff at front desk were friendly and made efforts to be accommodating.
Our son and grand children were camping on the coast this week and we decided to join them for a couple of days. We selected the Best Western as we had stayed there a few years ago. I made the reservation direct with the hotel on Sunday evening and were guaranteed a king room on the second floor with a 4pm check-in. We arrived at 5:30pm expecting our room would be ready for us given the fact we arrived 1.5 hours later than expected. We had dinner reservations with the family at 7pm and wanted to clean up prior. When we arrived we were told the room would NOT be ready until 7pm. We were tired tired from our 3 hour drive early that morning and a long day of hiking and playing on the beach. After much conversation with the desk clerk, we finally got our room after 6:30p,. While our king room on the 2nd floor was spacious and appealing, we had an issue with the lukewarm shower temperature, the towel rack on the wall was loose and ready to fall, the shower curtain was soiled and needed changing. We hound a used coffee pod in the pot when we made coffee the next morning. Our breakfast was very nice, the selections of breakfast items was better than many other places we have stayed. I just love bisque's and gravy, these were so good I had seconds! Upon check out I had a long discussion the the desk clerk regarding our issues and he did adjust our bill as I had requested. I did related to him that we probably would not stay at this location in the future, and hoped that they would take appropriate steps to improve all of the issues we discussed.
Just stayed for one night during a road trip. Property looked well maintained. Room, lobby and breakfast area must have been remodeled not too long ago. Variety of options at breakfast was above average. Wifi worked very well. Staff was very kind and courteous. Dining options in the area are somewhat limited, only a handful of fast food places available near by.
I don't understand all these great reviews about quiet, clean rooms! That's all we wanted, and we paid good money for (over $150!) but did not get. The wall between our room and the one next to us was paper thin. All night long we heard their little dog barking. Got no sleep at all. I know these people's travel plans for heavens sake. Couldn't help but hear them. Paint peeling off the walls in our room. The hotel is painted blue and has purple doors. Yep, that's classy. We would have left but there were no other rooms in town.
Able to book online, nice clean rooms, all staff was very friendly. Close to freeway entrance. Not far from the university. Breakfast was included, had a lot of options. Also had a pool, which was used by many.
I knew I would at midnight after a long day and cross country flights so made a reservation in advance. Clean and comfortable. I just showered and went to bed so tired to sleep till very late. We did not use any of the amenities or breakfast the next morning as we were ready to get home. I would have no problem staying here again.
Stayed May 11, 2019. At first glance the place looked well maintained, and had friendly staff. The breakfast was good variety and clean. We got a two bed room fortunatel, because one of the beds had been remade with dirty sheets, with stains and hairs in it. The box spring mattress was tattered and falling apart at the bottom. There was lint, animal hair and a Cheetos on the floor as if it had not been vacuumed. Found dried sticky soda on top of the tv/dresser stand. Television would work for 15mins and power off, only would restart be pulling power cable and plugging back in. The bathroom had black mold and rust forming on the ceiling of the shower, the vent was not working properly to vent the area.
I knew there were guests in the next room but unlike other motels of this style I couldn't really hear them or their TV. It was a pleasant surprise. Bathtub/shower and toilet are in one room and vanity is open to the rest of the room. Mini fridge and microwave are provided along with a desk and a small table for meals. Breakfast was a typical experience but the staff were quite attentive and refilled or restocked frequently. I thought there was maybe more variety then with most motels. Pancake and waffle makers were provided along with hot dishes like eggs, bacon, sausauge and potatoes. The usual cereals and bread and bagels for toasting. Fresh fruit was offered one morning. Be aware that there is no elevator to the second floor rooms although staff did offer to help with our bags. All in all a very positive experience.
I was given a room with no hot water, and told that it was because in the morning everyone's showering. Later in the day no hot water, that night, next morning still no hot water. Then Miss-Manager admitted the equipment was broken and moved me to another room. She promised a $100 refund as compensation. When she mis-managed my room change, she cut my stay short by a day, so they kicked me out a day early. The room was never properly cleaned, never made my bed. Upon departure, instead of refunding me $100, Miss Manager charged me $100 extra. She's gone from Friday night til Monday morning, and completely unavailable. The moron at the desk needs charm school. Miss Manager called me and said she refunded my money, but she only refunded the $100 over charge and not the $100 compensation for 2 nights of no hot water. It's now a week later and I'm still having to fight her for the hundred bucks. I'm a BW rewards member, have stayed in BW around the world, and this was the worst experience ever.
Comfortable bed, fairly clean room. Housekeeping forgot to make the bed. Noisy - not much sound insulation room to room. Average BW experience. Average 'manufactured' breakfast. in room refrigerator was noisy - had to unplug.
We pulled in on a rainy night, the hotel is right off the freeway, well lit & visible. The lobby is completely remodeled, very sleek modern/minimal designs (the pictures on the website aren't even updated yet!) & staff were also very welcoming. Check-in took only a few minutes, sign some papers (mostly for the dog) & in we go. There are picnic tables, BBQ grill, a gazebo with a table & plenty of space. Bonus: the lawn is complete with doggy bags + trashcans, which we appreciated. There is a pool & jacuzzi that we intended on using but ended up being too tired to enjoy.. They were tempting, even in the winter. We were also pleasantly surprised by the breakfast! Hot: Eggs, bacon, herb red potatoes; breakfast burritos (in a bag), waffle irons, pastry shelves. Cold: Fruit, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs. Dry: Cereal dispenser, oatmeal (packets). Bevs: Hot coffee, tea & a juice dispenser. Not bad Best Western! Last King room of the building next to a large lawn, which was perfect for our pup.The room is spacious, a new TV, table, dresser + chair & recliner in the corner. The toilet & shower are in a room, while the sink is open into the bedroom. The bed was firm but soft, too many pillows & definitely contributed to a restful sleep after driving/walking around the woods all day... Perfect. It was also nice & quiet at night too. The only downside was the room smelled like dogs so, we grabbed a candle at the nearby grocery store & that did the job. Oh, & careful for the random homeless folk, there are police around pretty frequently but, no drama while we were there. Overall, this was a great choice, I definitely recommend this hotel & I am a Best Western Rewards Member, my points were confirmed for this stay; ask at the front desk if you're concerned.
They don't care about proper customer service. I was told that my stay was extended by the front desk person. Next day we are told differently by cleaning crew. Then we went to check at the front desk and surprise surprise the lady did not actually extend our stay she just clicked and clicked on the computer to give us a false impression. The new person in the front was rude and short about it. Didn't give us her name, or a way to contact the manager. Who apparently is not reachable on weekends. So yeah I am disappointed in there customer care.
This place does not allow the use of BW Rewards Cards. They do not have a way to read the cards or manually input the card number for payment. The heating unit came on all night no matter how low the temperature was set.
We stayed here a couple of years ago to view the college and so we chose it again because of our positive experience. It was clean, comfortable very affordable, the staff is professional and helpful and the breakfast was fresh and good and plentiful. We would go again cute little gazebo area to enjoy when the weather is good.
I have used this hotel property for 10 years as an independent contractor of this area of Humboldt County up until 2016....then two years break. I thought to try this hotel; contacted the office to assure a certain room was assigned. It was indicated that I was assigned to find out the morning staff changed the assigned room to another customer, according to the night staff. (This is how they treat an Elite Diamond customer). Okay: The staff person attempted to assign a room that really had a foul order like-- pet and urine smell. The rug was filthy. The the poor night staff (the only staff at night) attempted to assign another room. It didn't have a bad order, however, once again, the rug was filthy! The bathtub was dirty along with hair in the tub. I was going to stay for three nights and decided to check out the following day and returned to Humboldt Bay Inn which is much cleaner and most likely owned by a local USA local owner. Customers, use your money for quality services, don't sell yourself short and waste your hard earned money here! I thank the night staff that tried to make things right!!
This hotel is in a great location close to the University. It wasnt the greatest of neighborhoods but there are a handful of hotels in this area. The hotel looks a littl shabby on the outside, but the rooms arent bad at all. Bathrooms could use an update but the beds were very comfortable and the room was clean.
GOOD: BreakfastBAD: Toilet not functioning properly, toilet paper and kleenex not sufficient, heater made extreme amount of noise.UGLY: Noise, smoking, and drinking in parking area 7 feet from our door until after midnight.
I recommend this motel for an overnight stay in Arcata. Very clean, good parking, fair rates. Only downside is that there are no good restaurants in the immediate area,so considerable driving was necessary for meals.
Room was clean, comfortable bed an pillows, always good breakfast, and is until 10am. We had So, ants are a part of life, had ants next morning, so make sure you put away and clean up everything. Will most likely choose a different Best western next time.
I definitely have some positive things to say about the Best Western Arcata Inn. The staff members my wife and I encountered during our stay there were pleasant and helpful, our room was clean and attractive (and everything in it worked), and the grounds were nice. Potential guests might find it helpful to know, however, that this property does not have an exercise room and that we felt that the breakfast provided when we stayed there was not as good as that typical at Best Western properties.
We have stayed at the BW Arcata Inn for 19 years when in the Humboldt County area. I was quite surprised to see the changes made in the reservation and dining areas. Perhaps because I was so used to the original ones, but I found them to be much more comfy and friendly looking, while the new changes seemed stark to me. The seating/visiting area, now with an artificial fire place, aren't even readily seen. They have extended the breakfast eating area to accommodate more people, but still have the same items, which are less convenient to get to. The juice machine was out of order for the 5 days we were there, and it was unfortunate that several different breakfast items were not available. The staff has changed, and I missed not seeing employees who knew and welcomed me. The rooms are still the same, however, and I am glad for that. I was told the change was mandated by Best Western, but I preferred the "old" BW Arcata Inn, but most likely will stay there again when in the area. The change just needs to be gotten used to!
Hotel was undergoing some renovations, which didnt create a good first impression, would have been nice to have been told this prior to arriving - breakfast was in a tent outside! Room was spacious and clean - staff were pleasant.
I don't know what happened here, but it was one of the worst experiences we have had with BW. Our reservation was so wrong that we considered cancelling, but it was Christmas Eve and everywhere else was full. We reserved two adjoining rooms two months prior. When we checked in, we were told they weren't available! The pool and spa were out of order and the breakfast was almost non-existent! So sad to write this bad review because this hotel has been our "go to" place in Arcata for years!
Got a decent rate on a whirlpool room and it beat out other locations within CA for what you were getting. Pool/spa area were closed though and appeared to be under renovation. As the case with any Best Western, it was a nice clean room with a working whirlpool tub and a nice bathroom.Basic internet (uncertain of the quality of high speed) and decent continental breakfast with at least two flavors of waffles (original/maple cinnamon) but do prefer the blueberry flavored waffles :)Just like a place with very comfortable bedding and a hot breakfast in the morning. Always have like the chain and how it has improved over time.Yes I would recommend this location because of what is around the location such as available eateries and a supermarket and it is conveniently right off the 101 freeway. Safe travels to everyone and happy holidays. All the best!
Been staying here for many years for work. Great location between Eureka and Crescent City and plenty of restaurants and shopping in between. Was pleasantly surprised this time to see all of the great upgrades. From the lobby to the rooms, they have turned this decent stay into a very comfortable place to stay. You will always experience the oddness of the homeless nearby, but this now ranks up with the Best Westerns in the area. Added nice tv's and very very comfortable bedding. They have always had an adequate cont breakfast for free, but have upgraded this too! Great job, friendly staff and I'll continue to stay there for business.
Hi,This newly remodeled motel is comfortable and a great stop over on your way through the redwoods. The beds are so comfortable, the staff courteous and helpful and this motel is close to HSU if you need to stop and visit a college student. Five minutes from downtown Arcata, you are close to all the fun eateries and shops in town. Close to the freeway, close to good restaurants, clean and pleasant.
Where do I start..last visit (last month), we were not informed that minimal cold breakfast was served outside in the rain nor informed about pool and hot tub not working. This visit (hot tub still not working) I called and asked if a full hot breakfast would be served and told yes...Nope, lied to again. Not even hot chocolate for kids. So before a tournament, no hot food again. This BW has been disappointing again and again. We have been coming here for over 10 years. The price has more than doubled to $150+ and they have gone from $0 extra for pets to charging $35 per night. We used to feel like family, not anymore!
We booked this hotel directly through Best Western and typically stay with this chain. We stayed here October 31, 2018. Compared to other Best Western Hotels, this facility is dated and needs remodeling. The owner was upgrading the breakfast room and we were aware of this, but unaware the pool and spa were closed for repair. We were disappointed the pool facility was closed, but the manager discounted our room, therefore we were happy with their response to the issue. The rooms are dated, but clean, and reasonably quiet.
The room was very clean. It was being remodeled and the breakfast was outside. It was cold outside but I am sure it will be great when the construction is over. The employees were very helpful and friendly.
Rooms fine, clean, comfortableWith renovation the Office and Breakfast Rooms were compromisedThe Breakfast offering was Continental outside in a Tent with no heat and it was 40 degrees F outsideI'd suggest a little shorter drive or further to get to the next BW not under renovation
Very nice area and very nice place to stay. The hotel was being remodeled but thats going to make it better in the future! The area surrounding the hotel is awesome. You are minutes away from a hike, food, stores, the ocean, a major college, it really is in a great place!
I have stayed in several Best Western Hotels recently and this is definitely the best, by far. Breakfast at Denny's was good and included.Hotel staff was proficient and helpful and the hotel was clean and quiet.Would definitely recommend to others.
This is the best hotel in the area by far. It is always clean and the staff is nice. It's great and is also pet friendly so bring the dog! The breakfast is really good and they don't cut corners in that department. The hot thb is wknderful and they have a heated indoor outdoor pool as well. The property isn't crowded and has a beautiful grass area for you and your canine friend to enjoy. It's close to several restaurants and across the street to a grocery store. Best place to stay and fish!
To be the fair to the hotel, they have advertised that there will be disruption during their renovation which was the case during my stay. This included serving breakfast in the car park and check in taking place in a small office. All annoying but understood. My issue was with items within their control. The shower gel dispenser was broken and I was charged for a prepaid room. The latter was rectified but only after I went down to speak to the check in team. The area is handy for the freeway but not great to walk around at night due to the level of homeless people. Restaurants are mainly fast food (McDonalds / Carl Jr etc). Fine for one night but I'd avoid during the renovation if you need to stay for longer.
The hotel itself was good. All I really want in a hotel is a place to sleep that's reasonably clean and quiet but I always tend to fine Best Westerns to be a cut above that. This one was no exception, clean comfortable bed and room, plenty of room. The issue I had was the location. It was in a section along with a ton of other motels and that neighborhood seemed to attract a lot of homeless. I'm afraid I didn't feel particularly safe until I was locked into my 2nd story room. While I was there, a fight broke out in the bus stop next to the hotel and the cops came out. I hope that's not typical but it made me uncomfortable.
Not the best as the name suggests. Easy in and off the freeway and much cheaper than Eureka at least this trip. The hotel lobby is under construction as others have said. Staff very friendly. Room was nice and was maybe a newer remodeled room. Bed wasn't very good and bedding was much less than what BW offers at other locations. Breakfast was outside and very poor. But I don't stay at places for the breakfast anyway. Lots of packaged pastries and no fruit. I doubt I'd stay here again. I know BW have really upgraded over the years. I just don't see it at this location.
WE have stayed here a dozen or more times. We like the sort of out of the way location and the dog friendly option. We have seen the rates go up from $85 to $135 for a plain king room over the last 3 years. The fridge doesn't have a freezer anymore and the bed is slightly harder. However, the rooms are fairly clean, the shower has great water pressure, the desk and internet service are quite adequate. The dog fee is now per night and not per stay.
Been staying here for 12 yrs while goung thru town for buissness. Very sad to see the down fall of the cleanness of the rooms. Ended up leavinf dor my second night to go to a ckeanner pkace. I am sad for the workera. Hope thay get proper cleaning training.
Check-in was fast and easy. We parked right next to our large, well-lit room. The furniture was comfortable, and we had a minifridge (no freezer) and a microwave. The sink area was separate from the shower/toilet room. There was plenty of counter space, but this area was not well lit. The shower head was good. The bed was fairly comfortable but a bit lumpy. A couple days later we stayed at this motel again, and our room was not as nice. For dinner we had good Mexican food at a reasonable price at the Valley Azteca Restaurant across the street. The free breakfast at the motel was good, with hot items and healthy choices.
One of the Best Western's standard level , close to highway, with a good staff, good room, quiet, breakfast without any specialty, excellent to stay one night, but nothing really attracting to stay more
We stayed here for 2 nights recently and our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. We stayed on the ground floor (no elevator) and were able to park right outside our room. My only recommendation would be to eat breakfast somewhere else. For our first morning, we thought maybe we were too late and all of the "good stuff" was gone. When we went over the 2nd morning for breakfast, it was the same blah stuff as the first morning. Would definitely stay here again, just would do something different for breakfast.
Good choice among a cluster of hotels in north Arcata. The grounds are very nice. My beef is that a major factor in my choosing this hotel was the attractive pool and spa-- both of which were unavailable due to maintenance. I could've stayed next door at a hotel with neither a pool nor a spa for a lot less $$$. No compensation offered by Best Western.
New owners....bad business! The level of hotel appearance... amenities...warn beds & bedding... filthy tubs... pool closed in past year half of the times I stayed even though I asked about pool when booking reservations.... no fresh fruit offered at breakfast... clients should not have to ask upon checking in for a maid to come clean the bathroom or unclog toilet or shower drains... really went downhill....
We have stayed here twice while moving our daughter into her dorm at Humboldt State University. We have stayed at several of the motels in Arcata, and this is definitely the best motel in this price range. We especially like that it is so dog friendly, so we can bring the family dog when we come. The motel is clean, nicely decorated, they have a huge grassy area for the dogs, and the breakfast is very nice with lots of options.
Loved this hotel. Great location, easy access to 101. Staff goes out of it's way to ensure your stay is good. Fresh cookies daily, coffee 24/7. and of course the breakfast, which for hotels is very good. The property has two BBQ's and picnic tables, which is nice. Beds were very comfortable, would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Good: Pretty nice room with comfortable bed. Seems newly renovated Average: typical motel from the outside in a dumpy commercial stretch of road. Nothing nice to see. Entire town seems kind of run-down. Breakfast is what you'd expect - dry scrambled eggs, oatmeal, bread, etc. Poor: toilet overflowed the first time we flushed (after just pee I promise!) Attendant came in with plunger and cleared the clog and said that it happens all the time. ???? Then the shower didn't drain for about 30 minutes. Stood in about 6" of water for the entire shower. I did not have high expectations for this place but you kind of expect plumbing to work. I could have easily camped out if I didn't care about plumbing. :)
The poet area is very nice, a large area all enclosed by trees and shrubs, with paths leading into it. The only disadvantage is that at night, there is no lighting. I did contact the front desk the next morning to express my concerns and suggested that maybe they could get some sort of solar lighting or battery operated lights.
This is the worst Best Western I have ever stayed in. The bathtub had a ring around the tub and the beds were terrible flat. I will never stay at this hotel again. Very dated hotel and not worth what you had to pay for
Nice Motel, great landscaping. Room was OK. The first room they tried to put us in smelled like a smoking room. Breakfast was adequate. Maintenance didn't fix the running toilet, I did. The handicapped door switch going into the lobby wasn't repaired in the 4 days we were there. I reported it twice
Stayed here for 2 nights as we explored the redwood forest and the coast. This motel is okay for the money. Room was clean but had an odor. Bathroom fan was very loud and didn't have a separate switch from the light. Sink and mirror were outside the bathroom which was convenient. Free breakfast had an adequate amount of choices but very limited seating. Front desk staff was friendly. The rooms and property need an updating.
The carpet in the room was filthy, we advised desk and comment was maintenance would check it. However, cleaning staff should have noted this long ago. The price of $270.00, plus all the taxes, did not provide the quality that was anticipated. The breakfast room was small for all the number of rooms in the hotel. After checking in, we went to our room and keys would not work, had to go back to desk and re-register to get a different room. BW would not let me complete a review of the hotel.
Good value. Rooms were clan and beds were good. Room was a little dated. Lobby staff were very helpful and friendly. The free breakfast was also very good. This place was very good location to Humboldt State University and near fast food and a supermarket.
Nice place for an old school motel . The breakfast is good but there is only a very small eating area with about four tables. We have stayed here a few times over the last 2 years and I will likely go back ,as there not too many options in the area . The only problem that we had this time was that the bed was not made when house keeping cleaned the room .
Have stayed here a few times in the last couple years- Rooms were great- nice and clean- front desk help was great- Breakfast in the morning was good- just enough to get you on the road. Would stay there always from now on when traveling through Arcata.
I called the motel directly because I saw that the motel was pet-friendly. I asked if there were rooms available that were kept pet-free since my husband has allergies. The clerk told me that pet-free rooms were available on request so I said, “Then I would like to request one.” I made reservations for four nights. When we arrived, I reminded the clerk that I had reserved a room that was pet-free. He told me that dogs are allowed in ALL of the rooms. I explained about my husband's allergies and he suggested that I try the room for the night and then if there was a problem, I could check out the next day by 11:00 and try the Hampton Inn across the street. My husband's allergies aren't severe so he said let's give it a try. There was no smell in the room and after a while he thought it would be ok so we stayed. People with severe allergies should avoid this motel. Breakfast-very good selection including waffles, biscuits and gravy, ham, eggs, Greek yogurt, string cheese. However, VERY limited seating. For two days we asked to share a table with someone and one day we invited a couple to sit with us. The last day we slept late and went in at 9:00am and most of the food was out. Other people were also there so the employee said that she would “extend the breakfast” since there were several of us but breakfast hours were from 6-10am. The picnic/bbq area is not like it looks in the pictures. There is one picnic table and an old grill like you see at campgrounds way back in the corner of the property. Given the number of street people hanging around the area, we did not feel it would be safe to go back in the corner after dark. There was a large lawn area but no seating areas to enjoy it. Cleaning-for two days the room was not cleaned. Even though I am ok with not changing the sheets, I still expect the bed to be made up. The second day, we returned and my husband said, “no one has been in”, but then I saw that the tip that I had left was missing. The waste basket, which contained maybe a couple of tissues, was emptied and one towel and one plastic cup was replaced. Neither the sink nor the table was wiped down and the bed wasn't made. The next day I didn't leave a tip (why bother) but that day the room was cleaned very well, toiletries replaced, bed made. I felt bad that the one maid who did a good job didn't get a tip because of the shoddy job by the previous maids. The room itself was nice except the toilet was so small, you had to go in and slide around the commode in order to shut the door and the door had to be shut at night because the light from the parking lot directly behind the room shined in and the bed faced that way so the light is in your eyes. Also the refrigerator froze our sodas and exploded them even though we had it on the lowest setting. A bottle of wine, at 12% alcohol, was almost frozen! Overall, the cons outweigh the pros so I won't stay there again. Maybe I'll take the clerk's suggestion and try the Hampton Inn.
Our trip down the coast from Longview Washington took longer than we thought and we were not going to make it to Garberville like we thought. These guys were the perfect spot to stop and help us with contacting the other Best Western about us not making it. The room was clean and well kept. Worked out to be relatively quiet. Actually didn't notice much of anything once we passed out. Which itself says a lot about a place that you can sleep well in the place.
The king sized bed and pillows were very comfortable. Good size room and quiet. Typical personal care amenities. The pet friendly fee is one of the highest we have encountered in our five week cross country trip, so next time I would shop around more. The grass pet area had pet waste bags and trash can. The landscaping was beautiful...loved the variety and multi-colored flowers and bushes. Well maintained. The pool looked inviting but we didn't have time to use it. Really appreciated the security measures. Front desk clerk, Casey, was especially helpfu...friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was good, nice variety.
We stayed here as part of our June road trip along the Northern California coast. This is your basic motel style facility. It is one of a large cluster of motel/hotels at the Giuntoli Lane exit in Arcata. The town plaza with shopping and restaurants is about a five minute drive up the freeway. Across the street is basic chain fastfood and some shopping. We stayed in room 219. It is a large clean room with two very comfortable queen beds, a tv, refrigerator, microwave and divided bathroom (sink separated from the tub and toilet). Staff is friendly and helpful. I would stay here again if traveling through the area.
This was an old motel that was clean with great beds, the employees were very friendly, but I can't say much for the free breakfast. I guess you get what you pay for. The breakfast room was small and noise y. If you just need a clean room with comfortable bed it is great.
Stayed here for three days in late May, early June. Found the hotel staff to be very friendly and they set me up with a room on the ground floor which was a blessing to my guest who has Parkinson's. There was a guy there who is the perfect Concierge and should be snapped up fast by a larger hotel chain. Breakfast was good as was access to nearby restaurants if needed. Loved visiting the nearby Redwood National Park and beaches nearby. It was the most perfect day or two for me to spend some time there.
We are on a 28 day road trip and Arcata was a pitstop after a long day of driving. Normally we are happy when staying at a BW hotel but this was disappointing. The man who checked us in was friendly and explained everything we needed to know. We were displeased to hear the hot tub was out of order as my husband was really looking forward to relaxing in it in the evening after a long day. We had some issues - the tv and remote didn't work well so we just gave up on it, the walls are way too thin as we kept hearing kids screaming at each other in the room over from us, before 6am there were workers talking loudly outside our door so we got up an hour before we had to..thanks to them and since we were up...went to go have breakfast. There were NO hot breakfast options as the workers staying there ate it all up. When I mentioned it to the woman at reception she said there was nothing left til more got delivered! Never experienced this in all the years we have been staying at hotels! This was just an all around crappy stay and I would not recommend this Best Western.
Average place to stay. Bathroom had a window so the door had to be closed to make room dark and the door was hard to close and stuck. So noise was made to open and close waking up other guests in the room.
The grounds were beautiful and the breakfast was excellent! We also enjoyed hot tub and swimming pool use. Location was perfect-not far from the downtown where there were many excellent restaurants to choose from. There was also close access to Humboldt State University where there is a redwood trail.
Was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of this hotel! Even the smoking area was immaculate. It is very evident that the staff is happy because the property is well cared for. The breakfast was wonderful.
We had a good room with everything working well. Probably the best hot breakfast of our trip. Being an outside exit motel had to walk outside to get to breakfast are in the registration building. Could be an issue in bad weather but not sure how much of that they have in this area. Our main issue is that a lot of homeless people hang out in this area. Motel seemed to be secure and took extra steps to assure they didn't attempt to use the breakfast area. Would stay here again if in area.
Large room, clean, big spa bath and separate shower and bathroom. The shower had a curtain rather than a glass partition which I personally don't like. But maybe that's just me. Big bed comfortable. Breakfast was the usual US self service with waffle maker, plastic cutlery and paper plate. All a bit motel ish. No great complaints it just isn't quite a 4 star rating. There are better best westerns around. It is not in a hugely upper end of town either, near a shopping mall.
Pleasant Employees,, Clean and fast service.. Very well stocked breakfast bar,, Hot showers,, VERY nice pool and hot tub,, Beds were a little hard but not to bad,, just a personal preference Really,, But we will look for BW in the future for sure,,
We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the stay. It was easy to get to just right off the freeway. It was clean and nicely decorated. The room was nice with a microwave, small fridge, and ironing board, and hair dryer. The morning breakfast nice with fruit, hot items, waffles, yogurt, pastries, oatmeal, etc. Even had soymilk. Lobby was nice and plenty of magazines and brochures for reference. The staff was very nice, friendly, and polite. We will stay again if in the area.
A motel (rooms open to outside, not an interior hallway) with decent to good amenities. It's a five-minute drive to Humboldt State, and you can walk across the street for good coffee and a couple of good restaurants. Great greeting on check-in: Bryan was friendly and very helpful, answering all of our questions and making us feel welcome. We had a first-floor room, which like the inn was older but comfortable. The soap, shampoo and conditioner for the shower are in a dispenser on the wall opposite the shower head. Great water pressure in the shower. Comfortable beds, good TV. Good breakfast: make your own waffles, plus eggs, meats, bagels and pastries, dairy items and juices. Pretty good coffee available 24/7 in the lobby. We enjoyed the indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub, and there's plenty of parking. If you're looking for hotel-level amenities, this might not be for you, but a great budget option.
I stayed here the better part of a month while relocating from the Bay Area. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the staff is top-rate, super friendly and genuinely so. The breakfast was much better than I usually do on my own (biscuits and gravy never get old). Mellow environment, felt safe, convenient location.
We changed hotels to your location after sleeping on a poor mattress in a an ADA room nearby. Fed up with trying out cheap motels. Very nice facilities and knowledgeable staff! What more can I say? Thank You!
Though an older establishment, Arcata Inn's rooms are fresh, well-appointed, and quiet. Breakfast was above average and staff were friendly. Everything about my stay met or exceeded my expectations. I recommend Arcata Inn .
Ok, first of all, it isn't fancy. But, we like that it is a great little home away fro home. It clean, efficient, and the price is reasonable. It is near our family whom we are visiting. It comfortable, has a nice laundry area. The breakfast is standard, but always fresh.
An old school property, you drive up to your door, but this works great if you are traveling with dogs. Very pet friendly, with a large green space for walking, plus bags and disposal cans. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was very nice. The place is starting to get a little old but they make an effort to keep it well maintained. Breakfast is the usual paper plates and plastic utensils like everyone is doing now. I would stay here again.
The hotel was pretty nice. I would stay there again. The room was clean and the staff treated us well. It is located near restaurants and and a grocery store which made it very convenient for all of us.
In great need of better housekeeping. The rug was visibly dirty, we found big globs of hair in the whirlpool tub and the bathroom tub, there were ants all over the room and I found toenail clippings on the bed. Nice area though, but I'd skip staying here! I love Best Westerns, we've used the chain all across the country, but this one doesn't live up to the brand.
This BW is as clean, well-appointed and comfortable as some of the BW-Plus hotels we have stopped at. The staff was friendly, obliging and helpful. We had two great nights of sleep and two very substantial and tasty breakfasts that satisfied all 6 of us---yes, kids 17, 15, 6 and 3, meaning we booked two rooms. Even so, we believe it was "cheap at twice the price." Very convenient to Humboldt State University
Like the hot breakfast, room is comfortable and clean , location is good and convenient to nearby restaurants , front desk is very helpful, bathroom is a bit small but it is fine, ample of car parking lots.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights and were very pleased with our stay. The staff was very informative and kind. The rooms were VERY clean, had exceptional amenities and great central heating and air. For the complimentary breakfast, they had a wide variety of quality food options to choose from. It is also right across the street from a diverse array of food options, as well as a grocery store. After deciding to stay another day in Arcata to explore more of the area, we decided to check out the Red Roof just next to it. Within 30 minutes of our arrival, we were getting a refund (it was genuinely awful) and we went straight back to the Best Western. Great hotel for a great price!
Terrible location with crackheads roaming around all night. Staff was less than helpful. I stay at best westerns about 50-60 a year usually have a great experience and after the lack of flexibility from them I will no longer stay at best westerns.
These rooms were VERY clean and spacious. We did not expect this for the cost. The water pressure was excellent. Check in and out were a great experience. Breakfast was fabulous and fresh and clean area. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
A super clean, very comfortable room that allows dogs (even my big Lab) Super comfortable bed and pillows - quiet. Loved the big dog yard and the outdoor/indoor heated pool looked fun. As a parent of an HSU student - I appreciate a home away from home
When you know what a Best Western Sign looks like after years of staying there, it is a rude jolt to finf=d it replaced by a modest little sign in blue letters that attracts no attention at all and is easy to miss in daylight. God forbid you need to find it at night. It's as though management is ashamed of its motels. And the heating unit is too noisy. Had to turn it off so I could sleep.
This hotel is obviously older- the outdoor landscaping was beautiful, but the rooms were musty smelling and dated. The drain was very slow in the tub- the bed was comfortable. The server warned us about walking anywhere after dark- said that the neighborhood wasn't the safest . Had to leave fan on high in room so we didn't hear the street noises.
Hotel was nice, breakfast was good. I arrived a little early and they allowed me to check-in. A few very, very small ants crawling on desk area. Manager did note my observation. There is a 200 word minimum to post a comment so: This little piggy went to market etc etc
Located right off the main expressway through northern California, and near good restaurants. Kebab Cafe was recommended by the desk & was great. Downtown Arcata has good restaurants, but the parking is difficult. Landscaping is lovely, even in Fall.
We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last year for business in the area. The rooms are always clean and ready when we get there. The staff is attentive and we always feel welcome. The breakfast is very satisfying and the location is good.
Stopped after crossing 299. Clean, spacious rooms with surprisingly very comfortable beds. Rooms are quiet and the grounds are well maintained. Also nice, clean, well kept up pet area. Would for sure stay again.
We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The grounds are landscaped nicely and the staff are friendly. The room was large and a bit better than I anticipated. The breakfast had a variety of items, but still was a continental breakfast. There weren't a lot of tables so we sat with someone else.
Excellent location. Quiet. Selection of good restaurants in downtown Arcata. Stayed in this inn many times rather than other locations nearby. if you have time there are many sights worth exploring in the area.
The food was great, and the staff was very helpful and wonderful to be around. The room was clean and quiet, and the shower was wonderful, great pressure and temperature. Definitely would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a room to stay for the night or longer.
We were on a 3 week pleasure driving trip from Southern Calif, to Gig Harbor, Washington state. The Best Western Hotels are always clean, friendly, with comfortable beds, and good breakfast to start the day. This hotel had all of this. Nice room with sunshine. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Good value for your money.
This motel looks like it was recently remodeled. The room is large and very clean. The beds are new but could be a bit firmer. There is a refrigerator and coffee maker in the room. The breakfast was good , including hot oatmeal, and there is a pool and hot tub. The hot tub could be updated to be hotter and stronger jets.
My husband and I spent one night at this hotel. We thought it was great value for money. The room was well presented and had everything we required. Tea and coffee were available in a very pleasant and comfortable lounge area. The breakfast room was attractive and the choice of breakfast food was excellent, varied and complimentary. We would definitely recommend staying there.
The Arcata Best Western is clean and comfortable. It is located in a high traffic area, so it is difficult to watch the gps, traffic, and pedestrians! The rooms all face the parking lot so it is a little noisy in the morning.
A great staff at this facility. The service was outstanding, location convient, breakfast was very good. This is a nice, clean, safe place to stay.Do not be put off by the outside appearance which is somewhat dated
It was fully renovated, quiet, safe, comfortable and included free breakfast! The location was very close to Arcata/Eureka and downtown with lots of cute shops and restaurants. It was my base for exploring the Redwoods. I would definitely stay here again.
This is a perfectly reasonable hotel with comfortable rooms and pleasant staff. It is what you would expect from a Best Western, and there aren't any surprises. The two things that stood out for us are (i) the landscaping on the grounds is quite remarkable. The management must love vegetation because not only do they have wonderful plants, flowers, shrubs, etc., they also label them. It is almost like a miniature botanical garden. They have certainly taken advantage of the great micro-climate and created a botanical oasis. (ii) the included breakfast could be better. The space is not great and the offerings are not much to write home about. The person who was working the breakfast area was working very hard. It is not a major complaint, but this stood out as a weak point for this property during our recent trip.
This hotel is hard to find fault with, and so I won't. We began with being greeted warmly by the front desk staff, who immediately noted we were Gold level customers, and who offered us a choice of additional points or a snack. I was actually surprised by this, as we frequently stay at Best Western hotels, and rarely are welcomed this well, which makes a huge difference to guests coming off the road. The rest of the hotel was everything we needed - very clean, comfortable, well appointed, with an eye for detail. It's clear that management here has their act together, and probably should hit the road teaching others how to do it (we travel quite a bit, and while many hotels get a lot of things right, it's rare they get nearly everything this right). We love Arcata, and we will definitely stop here again whenever we are up that way. After all, they made us feel welcome.
I have stayed at this hotel a number of times. It is my go-to place to stay in the Arcata/Eureka area. I have a service dog so I need a place that can easily accommodate dogs and this is it. they have a very large grassy dog area. The rooms are luxurious. There are so many pillows on the bed that you don't need them all. I have found that some are fuller and some are firmer. You can choose the one that is perfect for you. There is a plug on both sides of the bed for electronics. There is a variety of lighting, some dimmer than others, which I like because it helps me relax at night to have mellow lighting. The hotel is right off of the freeway and does back up to the freeway. That is not a problem. The area is still quiet and the rooms are quiet, even the ones closest to the freeway. The internet is free and I have never had problems with the signal. They serve a full breakfast including eggs and a breakfast meat. The food selection is large and varied. Most people with food restrictions should be able to find something to eat for breakfast. I must admit one of the reasons I select Best Western is the Breakfast. I like protein with my breakfast.
great for business travel when you bring your furry friend along. they have a great outdoor space, and breakfast! Housekeeping staff are always a pleasure. The outdoor space is great for pets, and even team bonding BBQs after a weeks work!
This hotel is very nice and well maintained. The staff were helpful and kind. The rooms have been remodeled over the last few years. Nice pool that is uniquely set up. Half is inside and half is outside. Recommend staying at the very back building.
Very nice, clean, neat motel located in a convenient location in Arcata. All the staff were courteous and helpful in every way. No problems at all. Will definitely stay there again. Completely satisfied. Thank You All!
the best western that we stayed at in arcata,ca. was clean and the bed was one of the best ones we have slept in! besides our own. the weather was wonderful! we hiked some local trails. the Rim trail at Patricks Point, and the trail to agate beach. we also toured the LOst coast brewery, it was interesting.
very courteous, friendly, & informative check-in person - enjoyed the hot tub - shampoo & shower get dispenser in the shower - had to close the bathroom door because of dripping tub faucet & because there was a window above the toilet that let light in at night that could be seen while lying in bed - very good breakfast - the best sausage gravy
I've been traveling to the Arcata area for decades - and this is by far my favorite hotel in the region. I look forward to booking here anytime they have an available room. Clean, quiet, and comfortable. Fast Wi-Fi. Attentive and professional staff.
Fabulous service, above and beyond. Beautiful landscaping. Large comfortable rooms .Descent free breakfast. Indoor pool and hot tub. I've stayed at a few places near HSU but will definitely stay here again.
Although we initially had trouble finding the hotel, it proved to be a secluded oasis. Very quiet with lovely landscaping, a generously sized room and decent breakfast. We would definitely stay here again.
This has been a very consistent hotel to stay at. Very few problems and nice staff. They are dog friendly. The location is very busy and has a few very nice restaurants in the nearby area. Overall a nice hotel to stay at.
My husband and I were moving our daughter into Humboldt State University and a friend who had moved his son there the year before recommended this hotel. When we arrived, the exterior was lovely, with buildings painted a beautiful sea blue. We were completely surprised and delighted when we entered our room and discovered how huge it was! Even with 2 queen beds there was so much extra room, and the decor was lovely. The breakfast each day featured delicious biscuits along with other dishes, and there's an indoor/outdoor pool. We got fantastic value for the price! The location is fantastic, close to Eureka, Arcata, HSU, Trinidad, Holly Yashi's store (if you know and love her jewelry it's a must-see - they even have tours!) and more.
Over the past five years, while our daughter was at Humboldt State, we have stayed 2-4 times a year at Best Western Arcata. It's just the best! The staff are great, room is fine, and they have warm cookies at the front desk in the afternoon when you check in. What more could you ask? We will really miss going there now that she has graduated, but YOU shouldn't miss it!
Located on the coast with good access to the beaches and tide pools. The Redwoods State and national park close. This was late summer kids still out of school so some parks over run with uncontrolled young people.
The hotel was very clean, the breakfast was good but the pool is very cold and small. I would recommend the staff get training on local beaches and restaurant locations but overall you will enjoy this motel/hotel.
Idiots don't know how to use a credit card machine. Charged the wrong card and refused to fix anything because they don't know how to charge a card. Now i have to dispute with my card company. Whole stay was such a waste of my time. Should have kept driving and stayed at a motel 6.
This hotel was way overpriced. The most it should have been was <$90. It is in a terrible (dirty & homeless) neighborhood. I'd opt for the Motel 6 next door if I were going to that area in Arcata again. Pool area was small, ok but out of towels. Kids are supposed to be free but room was $9 more for second child. Breakfast was a joke...very small area with 4 tables and 30 people at least. Breakfast person could not keep up. Asked for extra points on both stays, received a bag with 2 bottles of water on first stay. We paid less than this for BW Premium stays! So disappointed. Pillows horrible. Shower rod falling off wall. Was told extra points would be added to our account because of this. Will NEVER stay at BW Arcata again. Housekeeper was nice as was woman who takes care of garden. We are Platnium members and have never left a negative review...but this was a great disappointment.
Typical older BW hotel, somewhat renovated, yet you can only do so much with the floor plan. Didn't feel overly secure here based on some clientele I saw. Overpriced definitely, I would say $100 max based on value you receive. Breakfast so-so; wifi ok.
I travel a lot and just went to Arcata fro business, I thought the hotel was clean and very friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to everyone and I believe the Best western awards are very important.
Stayed two nights. Wouldn't recommend unless you are single or on a tight budget. People smoking outside room and smoke came in through ac. Shower was hot and cold, never constant. Cleaning ladies smoking in parking lot. Ice machine took 10 minutes to fill bucket halfway. Ants in room upon first opening door.
The hotel was less than average. The rate was high for what we got. The breakfast is nothing to write home about. There are better values. It was noisy and there was a pet smell in the room. I would not stay here again.
We love this place. From the time you check in till the time you leave you feel special. Good restaurants are within walking distance. We recommend Kabob for excellent Greek food. Whole experience excellent
We recently stayed at the Best Western Arcata. As I have come to expect from this chain, the rooms were clean, service was good, and the quality fit the price. There is always some ambient noise in these hotels, and the rooms aren't luxurious at all, but are good quality and reliable for the price point.
We were a group of 4 couples on motorcycles riding down the coast from Canada. Arcata was our most southerly destination where we stayed 2 nights to enjoy the July 4th celebrations and rest up. The hotel staff were friendly, accommodating and made sure we were looked after. They explained the local haunts, called us cabs, and made ensured we had everything we required. There was a continental breakfast included, and a coin laundry service. And, they had no issues with bikers!!
I booked D I booked this trip via a priceline express deal for a three night stay. It was good value, clean but is a slightly dated hotel. It was quite and the breakfast was adequate. My daughter loved the pool and I enjoyed the hot tub after spending a few days at the Redwood np...
Fantastic pool/jacuzzi, excellent breakfast with a lot of quality choices, Easy check in and out, nice room with comfy bed. Nice area. Downtown Arcata was a little sketchy but Mexican restaurant was delicious!
Standard Best Western room. Second floor; no elevator. Outside walkway. Room furnishing could have used more thought, e.g., had a comfortable easy chair, but you couldn't see the TV from it, and there was no reading light near it. Very friendly and efficient check in and out. Not nearly enough seats in the breakfast area, so I had to skip it. Can't blame the staff for the Harley driver who warmed up his bike outside everybody's window for 10 minutes early in the morning. It's outside of town at a freeway exit with a grocery store, restaurants, and other services.
We booked this hotel for our wedding guests when we got married 9 years ago and the hotel was affordable and a quality stay for the grounds, pool, hot tub, and pet-friendly. This time the pool and grounds were still great but the room was average: pillows were too hard and I kept smelling pee next to my bed. My kids had already fallen asleep so I didn't want to wake them up to change rooms. I think a pet has an accident. I talked to the receptionist in the morning and she assured me that they would look into it and gave my points.
We used Arcata really due to it's very reasonable price compared to other hotels in the Best Western group and other hotels in general. The receptionist was lovely, sorted out my WIFI connection issues and those in the morning helped with my booking at Fort Bragg for that night. Nice quite room. Good pool and chance to wash clothes. Nice place - situation great for walks in the redwoods and visting the Ave of the Giants.
This is a classic basic Best Western but was very clean and staff was lovely. Priced a bit high but that is because there is really not many to chose from in the area. Mostly used as a one night stay for those travelling along the 101. Check in was quick. The indoor/outdoor pool was pretty cold as the temps were cooler than normal so would recommend heating it a bit. Neighbourhood (or all of Arcata I guess) is very grungy and seemed unsafe but this is a fine place to rest your head after a long day of travel. Would recommend stopping to get food before Arcata as options are very limited for healthy food in the area.
We decided to make Arcata our home base when visiting the redwoods. The hotel has easy access to the freeway. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good but the seating area is on the small side. There is also a Mc Donald's right next door. The hotel is not in the main hub of town but that was ok with us as it what just a short drive. I would stay here again.
good location- breakfast was ok- rooms were clean -staff was great- pool was nice and so were the grounds- across the street were some shopping centers and places to eat -gas station at the corner- we traveled up to Klamath and down to Eureka
I loved the view of the river, the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the room, the great breakfast (omelet made to order) and the ability to bring my dog. We had been traveling for several days and were ready for a relaxing evening at a place with a river view. We were able to sit on a small deck outside our room overlooking the river and enjoy a lovely glass of wine from the bistro as we bird-watched and wound down. (I saw three bald eagles flying over the river throughout the evening.)
I would never recommend this hotel. First of all it's location is way out of the main part of town. There is no reason to spend any time in the area around the hotel. The only positive is that it is close to major highways. The toilet showed signs that there were prior problems with it which by the way were not fixed. The toilet did not flush and was a mess. I would never go back to this hotel.
Excellent staff very clean rooms easy location to find its next to freeway But didn't here it. breakfast wonderful. pet friendly. great indoor out door pool family friendly. great area for children to run and play.
I travel often up and down the coast and find it harder and harder to find a nice hotel, that's dog friendly, in the Eureka/ Crescent City area. This Best Western is a jewel. Seriously. The rooms are huge, clean, quiet, comfortable and pet friendly. Grounds are well maintained. Service is outstanding. Cost is reasonable.
This was a great hotel for a family trip up the 101. The room we had was good sized, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast had lots of great options for everyone. There's a coffee shop across the street with yummy Mexican Mochas and a gas station for easy fill up before getting back on the road again.
Easy check-in, easy check-out, got a good rate for location & they accommodated us with a late request for a ground level room after my mother had a stroke between making reservations & our stay, clean rooms, okay breakfast could benefit some changes from day to day, convenient laundry
Pleasant motel with nice beds and roomy accomodations. Plenty of space outdoors to walk the dog. Decent breakfast. Convenient location to Kebab house across the street and the downtown Arcata square. Freeway location doesn't impact quiet in rooms
This was a lovely place to stay. The hotel personnel were friendly and helpful and it was a quiet, restful night. It was close to my friend's home which made it even a better choice for staying at this place.
The guest room smelled of sanitizing spray so intensely that I felt nauseous all night long. There were vagrants eating in the breakfast area. I brought my dog to this pet friendly hotel but feel that caused me to be placed in a smelly room. Most unfortunate.
This is pretty much your standard Best Western. Service ok, room reasonably spacious, bed comfortable, sheets clean, good towels, bathroom small and a bit tired but fine. All the usual facilities - fridge, heater, TV etc. It's quite near the highway so the rooms down that end would be pretty noisy. The breakfast was not great but as I said, pretty standard.
Beautiful grounds, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable rooms and convenient to Arcata, Eureka and Blue Lake. Breakfast area is small but the food is good. Great place to stay and close to the Redwoods and the ocean. Definitely will return!
A delightful stay with superior service from Justin at check in. Thanks for the dinner recommendation at the delicious Kebab Cafe across the street. Hotel was easily one of the best Best Western experiences ever. Very pet friendly with plenty of green well maintained grounds. Quiet. Clean. Also had a very good breakfast. We would stay again.
When staying with a pet try to remember that not all people think your animal is cute especially when it pees near the door to room we are staying in. If I wanted a dog I'd have one of my own. You give good pet owners a bad name. And the hotel staff cannot watch you 24/7. Try being a bit more courteous!
We've stayed here twice now and would absolutely recommend this place, especially if traveling with dogs. The staff is bend-over-backwards accommodating, which is Soooo appreciated after a long days journey. Our room was huge, priced reasonably...not an easy thing to do on the Pacific Coast, and the bed so very comfortable. Best place we've stayed in on this trip!
This is a remodeled 2-storey motel with stairs to second floor. Painted in blues with lovely plants on the property. The indoor/outdoor pool was very clean and clear and so was the hot tub. The rooms were clean. I am quite sure we had room 127. he queen bed was very comfortable. The granite countertop in bath area was at the height for a five foot tall person. The toilets were very low, it came to mid-thigh. I am 5'10" and my husband is 6'4", so bending to use the sink was uncomfortable. The breakfast area was nice and the food was good. The coffeemaker in the room was for one cup at a time.
The rooms felt like they had been remodeled. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was a bit strange, as we had to use our room key to get through the door, and in the front desk, it was zoned off to the breakfast area. It did not feel welcoming. The area that the motel was located also was near a bus stop - so yes there are grocery stores and food places near by. Great stop for the price, however, most likely, we won't be back to this area. Conveniently located by the highway but just did not feel for the town.
I was travelling through with some friends on a motorcycle ride, and we typically stay at a Best Western. The grounds were clean, the rooms were clean, neat, comfortable, and the staff were friendly! While checking out of my room, I left my cell phone on the dresser. After arriving at our next destination in Petaluma, I discovered my mistake, and called the hotel. I spoke with the manager (Lisa) who was so polite, kind, and understanding. Lisa went out of her way, above and beyond, researching various options to return my phone to me.
My wife and I just completed a weeks vacation. Stayed in 5 motels, three of which were Best Western. The Best Western Arcata was the cleanest, most friendly and accommodating staff. We had a problem with our room, it was resolved immediately without any hassles.
We enjoyed our single night at the Arcata Inn. Fast WiFi, HD TV, comprehensive breakfast and comfortable beds. After a long day on our motorcycles, we appreciated the Jacuzzi and pool. Reception staff were excellent and knowledgeable about recent road closures (thank you guys, you helped us save time) The walls are a little thin - we could hear the neighbors, but were not disturbed. Good restaurants and shopping close by.
The bed was fluffy and very comfortable! It was close to Humboldt University and had several eating options close by. Breakfast was better than a continental breakfast. Great value for the price. I recommend this hotel.
I have stayed at the Best Western Arcata Inn in the past as it is near my son's residence. I've always found it clean & comfortable, with a friendly, efficent and helpful staff. This time was no exception. I will be returning!
We had our twin 7 yr old grandsons with us and the trip was wonderful. The breakfast, the free wifi, indoor pool, great water pressure in the shower, all wonderful components to a great stay. There are a lot of homeless in the area, but they were everywhere in Eureka and Arcata. They were not allowed on our hotel premises so not a problem. I highly recommend this hotel.
Beds were so comfortable!!! That's the most important thing. Breakfast was disappointing. Many items were empty. The pool looked inviting - wish I had brought my swim suit. The location was good; easy to find and walking distance to anything you might need.
Best Western Arcata is a very nice hotel! Our friends recommended it to us. The rooms are modern, clean and very nice. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of foods - and the coffee pot is always on! The staff was friendly and helpful. It is so close to Humboldt State so it's a perfect place to stay while visiting students.
We stayed here when we visited HSU with our son as a prospective student. The exterior of the hotel looks like a very old hotel but the rooms themselves are clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small and the shower head was a bit unusual but functioned well.
Reviews mentioning neighborhood are deceptive. Once you turn into the well-tended courtyard with attractive landscaping, any local problems are left behind. Swim pool and hot tub were nice. Breakfast only okay. Spacious room, comfy bed, very clean. I'm a very light sleeper and did not notice any noise during the night. Our room was downstairs facing parking area.
We booked this hotel due to its being very dog friendly according to reviews on other sites. That is a true statement--there is a very big grass area for dogs, and we were offered a dog treat upon checking in. There are plenty of options during breakfast, including quick pastries, or waffles and sausage for bigger appetites. The room itself was spacious, with two tables and very comfortable beds; bathroom could be bigger. The grounds were very clean, and there are paper towel dispensers along the hallway. We will definitely be staying here on all future trips to Arcata!
Very nice locale and comfortable beds an bedding. Great staff, however, the age and condition of the hotel and the quality of the breakfast keeps us from rating higher. In addition the TV was of only average quality and took a long time to come on.
Clean, friendly, nice breakfast offset the higher price. Good espresso a cross the street. Fairly quiet, not a party hotel. The nicer of the hotels in this area. Worth spending a little more to sleep better.
I stay here for business a lot. The rooms are always clean, and well cared for. I have never found anything broken or unkept. They serve a great bfast, and the staff is always willing to go out of their way to accommodate you.
The place was very tidy and clean, it obvious that they take pride in their hotel. I specified that I wanted a room with limited road noise and they obliged my request. The welcoming staff were very nice and were friendly on the way in and out. The breakfast was better then places we spent on this trip that were a bit more expensive. Trust me, the other places heard about your quality breakfast compared to theirs. No place is perfect and will usually get at least one gripe from me, but this one had nothing to do the the hotel or its quality staff. Below us was a small group of PlasticFarians (dreadlocked anglos pretending to be Rastafarians) that were burning weed all night that eventually lingers upwards. I actually witnessed them make a purchase right there in the parking lot. They were a bit loud, though it was not enough to go down there and give 'em the what for, but it was getting close. We liked the hotel and staff and if we ever decided to go back to Arcata, which is very unlikely, we would consider BW Arcata Inn.
We spent 3 nights at this Bestwestern in Arcata over Thanksgiving break while visiting Redwoods National Park. The counter staff were always helpful and friendly and there was free coffee or hotwater for teas all day in the lobby and cookies in the evenings. Check-in was a breeze, and our room came with 2 Queen-sized beds, a flatscreen TV, small microwave oven and mini fridge. The bathroom was on the small side, with sink outside. There was free wifi (with password provided) in the room and computer was available in the lobby. I used the pool and jacuzzi - half of the pool was indoors. Breakfast was good - we had choice of cereal, hot oatmeal, waffles, yogurt, sausage and biscuits, breads and bagels. Fruits included bananas, apples and oranges. Housekeeping was efficient, and completed by early afternoon. The hotel is pet friendly - many guests brought their dogs and could be seen walking them on the grounds.
Terrific place. We were happy with everything. The landscaping is gorgeous. It's obvious the gardner cares about each and every plant. Most of the plants have identification signs and it's fun to just walk around and look at everything. I was really impressed with the beautiful display of plants and considering we stayed in late November, that's something. I would stay here again anytime. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly, the breakfast bar was nice and dogs are welcomed. We'd come back again anytime.
We were pleasantly surprised by our very nice room, friendly front desk & clean grounds for walking the dogs. We checked in & had a couple of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies & a biscuit for the dog. The room was clean & the bed very comfortable, there was a cigarette burn in the chair but that was the only I found wrong in a very nice room. The complimentary breakfast the next morning was one of the best I've ever had, there was much to chose from. The grounds for walking the dog was nice & big, plenty of room to walk the dog. There were even pic nic tables to sit out with the dogs.
This is the first time staying at the Best Western Arcata, CA. The room was clean and very comfortable. The room had a desk and chair, recliner chair and a table and two chairs so I was able to sit comfortably anywhere. I also appreciated that the person servicing the room left a couple packets of coffee. The continental breakfast was very basic but adequate.
The hotel itself is nice, at bit dated. We got the whirlpool room, and the whirlpool is hardly big enough for one person. The walls in this hotel are tissue paper thin. There was a party going on in 4 or 5 rooms around us until 445 am. There were homeless people just about every where. If you are going to see the redwoods, don't stay in Arcata, stay in Crescent city. The homeless, hippies, pot smokers, and beggers are everywhere in Arcata. The breakfast was very nice, and so was the staff.
I called the Arcata hotel to make reservations, and the staff was very friendly and helpful making a reservation for a dog friendly room near the pet walk area. Check in was easy, again with friendly, helpful staff and dog treats to welcome my dog! The room was clean with everything I needed including microwave and small refrigerator. There is a large, grassy, safe dog walk area that is fenced on the highway side, and set way back from the street on the other side. The beds were comfortable with a large selection of pillows. There is a small indoor/outdoor pool and a hot spa tub.The complimentary breakfast included something for everyone... waffles, oatmeal, yogurt, bagels, eggs, etc. Both the housekeeping and maintenance staff had friendly smiles and hellos. The only thing that could make them better would be to add an enclosed fenced area with a picnic table to have your dog off leash to play with the other dogs. I would definitely stay here again.
We pulled in after 9pm and were thankful to get a room. It was nice being able to park right outside our unit. Helpful staff. The breakfast options weren't as plentiful as other Best Westerns we'd stayed at. Over all, a good experience.
Totally recommend this hotel. Staff was friendly, room was clean, and one of the best breakfast experiences I've had in my years of traveling. Several different bagels and coffee selections, as well as a nice waffle maker. Plenty of fruit, cereals, and juices. Staff was attentive and ready to replace any items that were running out. The check-in process was easy and fast. The girl behind the desk could not have been more pleasant, friendly, and helpful.
We were very surprised to find such a wonderful hotel that offered great service, comfortable and clean rooms. The room had everything one would need and was roomy, clean and comfortable. Lots of good lighting which you don't find in a lot of motels today. The staff were friendly, helpful and willing to help with any problems if needed., We would definitely recommend this hotel to any of our friends and family. Should we ever travel on this route again, we would definitely stay here.
As we have to come to expect from the Best Western Brand, Arcata,CA BW clearly a superior motel stay. Keep up the good work and we will always be coming back! This property clearly had a superior management staff as well as those we came in contact with in the housekeeping and front desk staffs. Clearly a job well done.
We recently stayed here and had a very good experience. Room was very clean and had really nice furnishings. King sized bed was super comfy. I'm used to Best Western's being nice, but I wasn't expecting this one to be among the nicer ones we've stayed at. Glad to say it was at the top. Cookies, coffee and tea at check in. Very nice breakfast. Biscuits and gravy, waffles with fun toppings, hot oatmeal with every fixing you could want, cinnamon rolls, bagels, English muffins, yogurts, applesauce, toast, and 4 different juices. The grounds were nicely kept and the location is convenient because it's across the street from a shopping center with a Safeway. The only thing I can complain about was the reception on the TV was very grainy. Nice flat screen TV, but bad reception. It was very stormy while we were there, si maybe that played a part.
Very well kept property. Beautiful plants, very nice rooms with all the amenities one could want. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is nice, but a few additions would be a plus. The property was quiet during the night, which is always appreciated. Very convenient location. I would recommend to a business or pleasure traveler. Will definitely stay here again when in this area.
Very nice inn: clean, spacious, decent breakfast, great scenery, friendly owner. This is our second time to stay there, and it is very nice. Scenery is stunning. If you want a GREAT breakfast, go down the strew to the Sportsman's Inn. HUGE breakfast at a reasonable price. Lunch and supper are fantastic, too. Give it a try, you won't regret it!
My family stayed here for one night and really felt safe and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful with lush plants and green grass for the pets, though we didn't bring out pets. I even saw hummingbirds. There is an express coffee drive up and walk up across the street with a Rays Market for incidentals.
awesome location, great floral landscaping, easy access to 101 and good breakfast, loved the ground floor walk in access and the staff was extremely courteous, friendly, and professional were a lot of help with an early checkin great variety of tea and coffee all day long
We spend 3 to 7 nights on average every week in a hotel. This place is above and beyond! The Jacuzzi was awesome the Jets and the power of the water amazing, both in the Jacuzzi as well as the shower. The bed was fabulous and very cushy and the room was very clean. We got an upgrade for being a diamond member and upon entering the room were pleasantly surprised with robes actual glass cups extra soaps a bottle of water and some nice apple cider. Crazy that this place is hidden away behind a motel six and an eight I believe. Don't stay cheap if given the option, these people are great and this hotel is beyond clean. We will definitely be back here!
The office staff greets you with a dog biscuit! It has a large lawn where you can walk your dog. What more can I say if you are traveling with your family fur friend. The rooms are big and clean. The free breakfast is fine.
We love to stay here. The landscaping is beautiful and it is close to the beaches. Very friendly employees. Great cookies and snacks in the lobby. Nice breakfast buffet with several specialty coffee creamers. Clean rooms with baskets of extra shampoos, conditioners, shower caps, mini sewing kits, soaps, etc. This Best Western is way nicer than some of the BW Plus inns we have stayed in. Highly recommended and I will definitely stay there again.
As in the past the Best Western in Arcata was very comfortable, from check in to check out. The beds are some of the most comfortable we have slept in, even at hotels costing 4 time as much. Rooms are very quite and clean and quite large, only draw back may be that it looks more like a motor lodge than a hotel but don't let that stop you from booking
The Motel was in a busy section of the city, our room was noisy from the outside traffic, The TV didn't work so they gave us another room, which was kind of them. The kids were excited to go swimming, but the water was very cold, and it was advertised as indoor pool - it wasn't ! ( Half in and half out ). The laundry room consisted of ONE washer and ONE dryer, which was a joke! The breakfast was good however. I won't return to this Best Western.
Spent one evening in Arcata on way to Redwoods NP. Check in was a breeze and room was more than adequate.Hotel and grounds are very well kept, maintenance crew are very conscientious and attentive to detail. Office staff very polite and helpful. Close to restaurants and a quaint downtown. Very nice heated pool and hot tubl
Most of my favorable comments were mentioned in the title. I'll add that the room was quite large with ample seating, closet space, drawers for storage, microwave and mini-refrigerator. Our only complaint was that the television reception was such that we seldom got a full screen picture, and portions of the sides were cut off most of the time. We became aware that this was the satellite provider's doing, and that Arcata Inn had no control of the matter.
It is a great place to stay in Humboldt County. We stay here frequently whenever we visit. It is very dog friendly, yet very clean and attractive. The people are extra nice and helpful. With the pool and breakfast, and a big dog run area that is kept very clean and grassy, it is a great place. For a medium priced hotel, you can't get better in the area.
Rooms are clean which is very important and less important, the breakfast was meh. The bathroom is the toilet and bathtub (very small space) and the sink is right outside. Ice machines (2) are located on the first floor. One is between the 2nd and 3rd stairs, the other is at the corner. You need your room key to get into the breakfast room so don't check out first. Breakfast items included: biscuit and gravy, cereal, oatmeal, waffles (make your own), cinnamon bun, hard boiled eggs. I was expecting eggs and bacon or sausage like how the Hyatt and Marriott brands provide. I was hungry an hour later.
We stayed here when passing through Arcata and we're very pleased with the quality for such a great price. Staff was friendly, room was clean, beds comfy and even a decent breakfast with lots of choices. We didn't stay long enough the enjoy the pool facilities but they looked nice as well. The grounds were well kept and it is pet friendly as well.
We stayed here for one night on our road trip then another night on the way back. Rooms are clean and comfortable. You get free WiFi and a breakfast .you get fruit Juice teas coffee Cereal fruit bread. There is also a hot tub and a pool .there is a laundry as well. Staff were nice and friendly.
Great stay overall. BUT, need to update breakfast offering similar to many other BWs... Breakfast meat like bacon or sausage, warm eggs, FRESH fruit, HOT coffee, or warm syrup dispenser for example. Too many "flavored" coffee karaffes. Need at least one more regular coffee karafee as most customers drank regular which was out all the time, even at 7 AM, AND warm to cold. The free breakfast is always a deciding factor for me of where I will stay as I typically don't have time to go to a restaurant in the morning.
I love this hotel. They have the most comfortable beds, with soft, clean, fitted bedsheets, a clean room, quiet location, windows that actually open, air conditioning / heat with thermostats to set that actually work, great breakfasts...I just won't stay anywhere else. Super comfy and spotless.
Positive: Clean, quiet (no highway traffic noise), spacious room. Efficient front desk service. Comfortable king bed. Affordable price. Large parking lot. Negative: No elevators to the second floor. Mediocre breakfast. Overall verdict: Enjoyable overnight stay.
The room is big and clean, the beds firm and comfortable and lots of fat pillows. The grounds had pretty plantings and there was quite a large grass area for dogs. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay here again
My family and I stayed here on the way up to Oregon. It is conveniently located to restaurants and stores. It is very clean and has spacious rooms. We loved the choices at the continental Breakfast. We would definitely stay here again!
My wife and were in town for a weekend and selected the Arcata Inn over a couple of other choices. The property had been nicely upgraded. Room were newly done, the beds were comfortable all fixtures were new. We found the staff polite and helpful.
I brought my High School Varsity Soccer team up to Arcata for a tournament, and the employees and accommodations were great. We come every year and stay here because they are the best! While my team can be a little rowdy at times, the staff were great at letting me know and showed great patience with them when I would not have been so nice.
We only stayed one night as part of our tour of Northern California, after driving through the Avenue of the Giants earlier that day. Our room was very large and clean with it's own kitchenette space. There was some noise from the highway but windows seemed to shut that out. Breakfast was better than the usual chain hotel with a good choice. The only downside was that there were no good restaurants within walking distance and we were reduced to a nearby Macdonald's. If we had thought in advance maybe we should have gotten something to eat before arriving, but didn't want to get back into the car to find somewhere after a long day. Easy connection to Highway 101 and 299 Trinity Highway.
The beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast was like a premium version with waffles, biscuits and gravy, bagels and toast, oatmeal bar and cereal and yogurt. The staff were very nice and friendly. The reason I would not be back is that we were awakened by a horrible smell coming into the room from the a/c system about 2 am. It lasted for about 15 minutes and we wondered if it was car exhaust since this is a hotel with outside doors. It was old and decrepit and needed maintenance. Look elsewhere.
Room was large and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was sufficient and well stocked. Easy to find and close to Rt. 101. Washer and dryer were on site. The cookies at check in were delicious.
Best Western hotel was a nice hotel in Arcata close to Redwood. Breakfast are pretty good with basic breakfast produckts, and the rooms are big and clean. It is easy to find with car from the freeway.
We stayed here when visiting the redwood parks. Comfortable rooms, swimming pool and a great breakfast made our stay enjoyable. The only thing I can ask for its too have a freezer in the refrigerator and then it would be perfect
This is an old-time Best Western with a wonderful garden. It is quiet, clean, and has acceptable wi-fi. All amenities you expect at a Best Western. Breakfast choices limited. First floor rooms nearer the office are quietest.
This is honestly the first time I have not found something wrong when staying at a hotel. The room was clean and well stocked, lots of pillows and everything was in good condition and working. On top of the nice room the staff was very friendly and helpful! I would highly recommend.
Our room was big, so we had lots of room for our stuff, & our dog. Big, comfy bed and pillows! Big, plush, clean white towels. The cleanest room we stayed in, during our 2 week trip. Pet friendly, too, but you'd never know it, it was so clean. The landscaping was done really nice. Pretty and green. The front desk staff was very friendly. We were exhausted and frustrated when we arrived. They cheered us up, and gave us some really good pointers on where to eat out, etc. We slept so good the first night, that we stayed an extra night. We didn't use the indoor pool, but it looked really cool. Maybe next time. I highly recommend this motel.
I just needed a hotel so that I didn't have to camp after driving 9 hours to an event... This hotel was recommended by a friend, and so I made the reservation. This hotel, checked off all the normal things, (clean, didn't smell weird) that I normally look for in a hotel, and then upped the anti, bu giving us a luxury experience. We had a King Sized bed, 48" TV, Jacuzzi tub, access to the pool and hot tub and breakfast in the lounge. I wanted to extend our vacation a day, just so we could enjoy the hotel. We plan on staying here again next year.
Have stayed at this property every month for 19 years. Consistently good. Close to everything, many good food choices within 10 minutes. Personally, I would not consider staying anywhere else. Breakfast is really good. Be sure to start your day with a big bowl of biscuits and gravy.
We just needed a centrally located place near Arcata and this was fine. The pool and hot tub were in good condition. When I reported that the TV needed fixed the front desk was very accommodating. The continental breakfast was as expected, everything was set up nicely.
Good service, good breakfast. The room was clean and stocked. They have different firmness pillows on the bed to choose from, which made it nice. My wife liked the pillows so much, she checked the tags to see who made them. Would love to see any hotel put California King beds in their rooms, tired of my feet hanging over the edge. I would recommend this hotel to stay at; it's right off the freeway!
I reserved thru expedia 8 months ago. It was paid at that time. I got and printed out my confirmation. Upon my arrival I was told there was no reservation or that it had been canceled by the hotel ? Expedia ?. We were a few days into a weeks vacation. It was evening and we were tired and expecting a 4 night stay at best western. although the desk clerks were very sympathetic and expedia both called and faxed my reservation they still refused to honor it, even though they had a room available for all 4 nights. I had to pay a much higher rate to get 2 nights. If I took 4 the rate went up even higher. I had no choise as every hotel in town was booked. We were forced to drive 2 hours north to get a room for our next 2 nights. Regardless of who's error it was I felt that it was very poor business to not honor the reservation when a room was available. I spoke to the manager the morning we checked out and he still didnt offer anything but sympathy for our botched reservation. expedia did offer us a $ 200 credit for our trouble toward booking an aditional 2 night stay at another hotel. Still, it would have been nicer had we been able to remain in one place for our redwood vacation. Shame on best western for not being more helpfull. I guess our business was not as important to them. In spite of everything the room was large and clean. My daughter enjoyed the pool and the free breakfast was very good.
Everything was nice at this hotel, clean, great breakfast, I recommend it. The staff is very friendly, fresh baked cookies in the lobby........the Jacuzzi was not working when we were there, which was disappointing but other than that, it was great.
We were pleasantly surprised at the quality and service at this property. We stayed one night on our way to the Big Sur. The room was well appointed with quality sheets and towels and exceptionally clean. The staff were very helpful and answered questions before we even asked. For all of this, the price was incredibly reasonable.
Very nice hotel with great service. Will definitely stay again . . . I lived for many years in the Arcata/McKinleyville area - moved away in 1982 so it was a blast from the past to stay in a nice place with great accommodations while visiting the area.
We usually stay in a Holiday Inn or Marriott Hotel, but they were so expensive for this area that we decided to try the Best Western. The beds were some of the most comfortable we've slept in and the rooms were very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel. We were there 3 nights.
Stayed here one night while traveling South on a summer kids trip. We had stayed in may different budget style hotels on our 17 days out. This was much better than we expected. The staff was super nice. Young people who actually looked you in the eye, smiled, and spoke to you like a normal person. The staff was surprisingly polite and helpful. The room was modern, clean and worked out very well. We had 2 adults and 2 children. The beds were great, the pillows were good, and large new TV. We did enjoy the pool which we don't always use in a hotel. It half indoor and half outdoor which the kids love. A very nice sitting area around the outside pool area. For the size property they have here, they did a goo job of adding little sitting areas, parking, grass and plants to give it a nice look. You can go outside and hangout in the grass are if you like. It was quiet, and clean. Its Humboldt County so there are homeless that hang around across the street. Across the way is a shopping center with options for food but you will have to walk through a few homeless who may ask for change. They were harmless but I wouldn't send my wife or kids alone. It was not big deal to us at all. I would absolutely stay here again in the future.
This hotel is motel style, however, the rooms were clean and fairly updated. There are a few pools but no fitness room. The breakfast is standard best western and just fine as well. This hotel is just fine for a night or two. It is close to the 101 exit and it is about a 10 minute drive from downtown Arcata.
Very pleasant one night stay. The room was clean and spacious, the bed was comfortable, it was quiet, breakfast was good, and the staff were the friendliest we encountered among the seven places we stayed on our vacation. Arcata itself is a lovely town with lots of restaurants, but if you don't want to travel the mile or so into town there are also many places to eat very close to the hotel (which is in a newer area just north of town).
So impressed by this hotel. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful, wonderful variety for breakfast, and the rooms were modern and very clean. Wonderful place if you are traveling with you pet. Large grass area for them. Best all around hotel.
A friend and I went to Arcata for a weekend on a lark and after reading reviews and checking prices we settled on this hotel. I'm so glad we did! Our room was clean and spacious, and had both a mini fridge and a microwave. This was a great place to land each night of our trip. The beds were comfy and the water pressure in the shower was amazing. The free breakfast had a nice selection. Plus, there's a Pokestop and we caught many Pokemon ;) (I'm enjoying imagining how quickly this review will be hilariously dated.) I'd totally stay here again.
Both rooms were clean and comfortable. It was the best price that I could get at a nicer hotel in the Redwoods area. The breakfast was continental and OK for a continental but I like eggs and potatoes in the AM.
We found this BW to be clean and all employees to be helpful, nicely dressed and courteous. We will continue to stay at Best Western Motels on our travels around the country side. I have stayed with Best Western Motels since 1980 and have never found one to not be nice.
Trip of Oregon Coast first stop was here. Very nice clean hotel grounds were excellent. Pool was an indoor outdoor with hot tub. Pool was open till ten which was a plus since we arrived late and grandson was looking forward to swimming. We had to also make this our emergency stop on the way back home because of an injury. Nice beds were a plus to my back injury. They were quite helpful when I called and needed a room on the way home. They have a great complimentary breakfast and coffee available all day. Thanks for making our stay enjoyable.
We needed somewhere to stop in our north California adventure and this fitted the bill pretty well. The rooms were good and checkin was very pleasant. It was very easy to find. The room was clean and the area was good. We walked across to the shopping area and thought it was ok. We really enjoyed the Mexican. Would happily stop here again.
The landscaping at this hotel was really outstanding. Kudos to whomever does that job for them. It was beautiful. Everything was spotless outside too, and since they do allow pets, you know that means someone is working hard to keep it looking this good. The room was very nice. It was oversized and not crowded as some hotels can be. This is an older property and a classic motel with outside corridors. So you will have people and children passing your windows frequently. Also, if steps are an issue, make sure you get the ground floor. There are no elevators. The breakfast room was too small. People were generous about sharing their tables, but it was still difficult to find room and many were trekking food and drinks back to their rooms - no easy task with the stairs. This hotel was close to the highway but not to the center of town. You will have to get back in your car to go anywhere near there.
hotel was quite, clean and helpful nice staff it was only one night but we would stay there again we enjoyed the pool and hot tub. A nice personal touch were the fresh baked cookies on the front counter my husband went back three times to enjoy them. The breakfast was fresh, the dining room was clean and plenty to choose from.
We stayed here for one night while touring the pacific coast. Check in staff were just ok, there were 2 girls working in there, helping us interrupted their chat and I felt like they rushed through to get us out of there, not really answering questions, etc. I felt awkward about the whole check in experience. There are no elevators, so make sure to ask for ground level if you can't do stairs. There is an on-site guest laundry and pool room, but they close really early. The room was just ok, a good spot to sleep and be on our way...it could use some updating. Continental breakfast is available with the typical offerings.
The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel does show it's age, but the furnishings are up to date which helps. You can hear the other guests, especially the ones upstairs.I f I had a choice I would book an upstairs room, or maybe you'll luck out an not get the elephant pacing the room for an hour at midnight. I swear I don't know why folks can't be a little more courteous when traveling and realize those heavy footstep are like thunder in the room below (by the way not the hotels fault, just wanted to vent).
The first thing I noticed was each room has a purple door. I loved that. The staff was very friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. I wasn't a fan of the breakfast. The pool is an inside/outside pool. I didn't like the low wall that divided it. A child playing could easily hit their head on that wall. It's right off the highway and there was lots to do close by.
I was attending my 50th class reunion for Arcata High. We chose this motel because it's in a great location. Easy access to Trinidad and Arcata. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast exceptional. The room was quiet and well appointed. We really enjoy BW properties.
Convenient location if you are travelling - near Highway. Well kept grounds. Very welcoming staff. Room large, clean & very comfortable beds. Breakfast very good. No complaints - good hotel Advice for eating - we would probably have been better taking staff recommendation to drive to central Arcata to find a restaurant to eat. Regrettably because we were tired we instead walked across the road from the Hotel to a very grotty shopping mall which had a couple of poor eating options (we had Chinese buffet which was not great). This mall was full of homeless people several of whom approached us and hassled us for money - quite unpleasant and threatening - AVOID
Great place, well landscaped, clean hot tub all six days, friendly helpful staff, great breakfast, home made oatmeal, yum!, good place to make as home base for exploring Redwoods, beaches, etc. Close to downtown Arcata. Room faced freeway at back of room, yet very little freeway noise, well sound-proofed.
The outside of this Best Western is an older style, but it's well maintained and has beautiful flower planters around. The inside of the rooms are nicely remodeled with the MOST COMFORTABLE mattresses I've ever slept on.
We loved staying at this motel. Access was easy, quiet location. Great staff, welcoming and professional with good suggestions for area restaurants. Room was large and comfortable with a good/comfortable mattress. The breakfast offered several options, hot and cold. The breakfast staff was friendly and professional. The grounds are nicely maintained. Although we did not use the pool (in-door and half out) or spa, the area was clean and people were enjoying it. There was a fitness room. I had requested an accessible or ground floor unit and we were offered a convenient ground floor room. This motel lived up to our expectations for a Best Western and this is the reason that when we can't access our WorldMark time share, we look first for a Best Western in the area.
This Best Western was the nicest one I have stayed at. Everything was clean. Lots of green grass for doggies. Was going to travel further north but that Best Western did not accept pets so we stayed here. Other places were booked also. Room very nice. Great water pressure in the shower. Good choices for breakfast. Lots of parking and trash cans. Nice directory of things in room which other BW's don't seem to have anymoire
Clean and easy access for our road trip. Staff was great and a typical continental breakfast. Great value for the money. This hotel is very close to Eureka and this Arcata location is much nicer and cheaper than the BW in Eureka! Stay here you will enjoy it!
This hotel was lovely! Excellent room, very fast check in process. Cookies every afternoon, and a great breakfast buffett. We will definitely return to this hotel again and again. It is also dog friendly, has a clean pool and a nice large jacuzzi. Best surprise: we had a jacuzzi bath in our room. Nice touch.
A well appointed comfortable room in a motel lushly landscaped met us on the last day of our road trip along the Oregon Coast. Great service from a friendly staff at this otherwise ordinary motel located in a strip mall area north of the old town of Arcata. Would definitely stay again and recommend it to friends.
Stayed one night on a California road trip. Made reservation a week before our stay, booking directly with the motel. Pictures made the place look great, but when we drove in thought we might be at the wrong place... not impressive from the outside. Once we got in our 2nd floor room we were very impressed. All the amenities including a small jacuzzi tub, only big enough for one, but very relaxing. There were also robes, chocolates and sparkling cider and bottled water. Good breakfast for guests. Great place to stay in a small town! Dog friendly too.
Very convenient hotel with large comfortable, clean rooms. I had a single King (although you could get two queens). Rooms include bar fridge, microwave, desk, table etc. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom sink is in the main bedroom just off to the side and a separate toilet and shower and very small bath. The was no safe which was the only thing really missing. Overall this was very good value for money and would be comfortable for families. It's also pet friendly (but no bad pet smells) and had a reasonable selection for included breakfast including mostly continental but also biscuits and gravy etc. It is walking distance to a coffee place and shops but I suspect most people would be driving anyway. Free wifi was reliable.
Traveling with my family and were appreciative of the cleanliness, friendliness of staff and the great pool! We only stayed one night but it was a good one. Breakfast was great too! Lots of choices. The room was quiet and the location was convenient.
I found that the staff in the dinning room were very professional and very good with their guest. The presentation although spread out was very cramped but the staff came to the help of the guests. The location of Arcata was very close to all of the State Parks. I liked Patrick's Point very much and I went to Humboldt State Museum which had some great displays. In the evening we had dinner on the coast at a restaurant that looked like a lumber mill. The dinner was family style and had a lot of good food. For a great break I can recommend Arcata Inn Best Western.
Pick this one on line and we were really pleased. The room was large and clean and comfortable. We were able to walk to get something to eat with several choices. The staff was friendly with cookies waiting for us upon arrival.
I think the three people I spoke with at the front desk during my stay were some of the nicest I ever met at a motel. Truly exceptional. There is a large grassy area for dogs (leashed). The room was adequate and the bed was comfortable. No complaints.
We spent 2 nights at the Arcata Inn this past weekend. When we drove up and saw the 'older styled motel' we wondered if this was the right decision - but it definitely was. The rooms are nicely appointed, clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff excellent.
we arrived tired after a 697 mi 1 day drive, we were greeted by a very friendly staff given our room and had the breakfast times explained .the room was a very good choice, since my wife had her laptop with her Having a desk was great .Room 111 ground floor across from the pool was good. WE were very happy for the soundproofing of the room.across the street the Kabob cafe serves Gyro hambergers. THE BEST. The comp breakfast was very good many choices. THANK YOU ALL FOR A GREAT STAY.
This hotel has everything when you travel with children and beds were very comfortable. The breakfast had many choices for adults and children. The pool and hot tub was just what I was looking for after being in the car all day.
We were ending the first day of our road trip and had traveled for several hours. This place was far enough off the highway that we did not hear the traffic at all. Restaurants (fast food and dine in) were right across the street. Hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. We had a room upstairs, with a nice comfortable bed. The bathroom is a little on the small side but other than that we had a very nice stay and would recommend this hotel to our friends.
We have stayed here twice and have been greeted with friendly service; a clean, comfortable room; and a bathroom with a window. We skipped the hi-carb breakfast, but it appears to be at the higher end of similar "free, hot breakfasts". Best Western does a great job of training it's staff and has exceptionally personable people working in it's establishments.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Best Western in Arcata! The staff was amazing and gave us a wonderful room with a king sized bed that was super comfortable. This location is in Valley West and is extremely secure, making us feel protected. Although we didn't know it, they also offer Grab and Go bags for travelers, something we really love. The breakfast didn't offer any eggs or meat but did have oatmeal, waffles and the usual cereals. The highlight of the breakfast was the freshly baked cinnamon rolls! Yummy! This will certainly be our go-to place in Arcata from here on out!
This hotel was surprisingly good. It is located in a convenient area for people visiting Humboldt County and the pricing was comparable to other properties. There are many hotels in this area and we've stayed in a couple that had sketchy people hanging around. This hotel does not allow transients to hang out (I asked) and is protected somewhat by not having open spaces nearby.
The Arcata Inn is a great location to stay if you are planning a trip to the redwoods. It makes the perfect place to use as a base to start out each day on your adventure to the north coast and Redwood Parks. I would love to see this location upgrade their breakfast to full offering we were looking for a little more than continental breakfast more Hot items eggs and the like if they upgrade this it will be the perfect place to stay. We will return here again. the location is great and all the staff is wonderful.
family trip to niece's Law School graduation in OR -- BW is the "best" in the west/east/ north/south!!! We have tried many over the years - most are resort quality with supurb staff and service. Arcata and Agate Beach were notalel this trip.
The room was clean but could use some updating. The shower was nice and clean and the water pressure was great. The bed was a little soft for our liking. Carrying the luggage up two flights of stairs is a work out.
Double queen room large and clean. Bathroom clean. Bed superb. Great nights sleep. Breakfast had numerous choices of everything. Most extensive continental yet on this trip. Couple arguing outside their room about 2am woke us, but soon settled. Definitely worth going back to.
This was a stop on our 101 highway trip. I've never had any issues with Best Western plus they offer free parking and breakfast at this location which with the good reviews tempted me here. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality considering we paid less that $80 for the night! There is ample parking and the room was great. Very clean and a good size! The breakfast area was quite small but no worries just take the food away! There are lots of shops and fast food joints within walking distance or nice restaurants a short drive down the road in Arcata.
This hotel is nice, clean and comfortable while moderately priced. Staff at this particular BW are AWESOME! I had no problems of any sort, but enjoyed the overwhelming reception and friendliness of staff on all shifts I dealt with. The cookies in the lobby are quite tasty as well!
I'm a BW gal. When I head to a particular destination, I always look to see if there is a BW in the area. This was my first stay at this particular BW. I was with friends, and we stayed one night, left for a night in Oregon, and then returned for two nights. The location is good, right off the highway, and there are restaurants within easy walking distance. I like that I can count on a refrigerator and a microwave. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet--my criteria in a motel. Though normally I don't pay attention to the landscaping, here the motel makes nice use of local plants. I noticed and appreciated that. Very nice.
Room very quiet and clean and super comfortable bed! Had friends right up stairs, never heard a sound!! Staff was all very nice and professional looking, very helpful! Great place to stay! Although the freeway is close, the room was really quiet! Enjoyed my stay!
We were traveling from Oregon to California with our Shih Tzu. This hotel offers beautiful grounds with tons of space for the pets. Lots of grass and area for them to be walked. Rooms were very nice and quiet and we were right against the freeway and never heard it. Staff are very friendly and professional. You will enjoy your stay.
The rooms here are large with really comfortable beds. I can't get my head around the Best Western chain having their sinks outside their bathrooms. The shower was the most powerful shower I have stood under, it was amazing. It is a shame we didn't get a chance to use the hot tub or the indoor/outdoor pool. What was disappointing was breakfast the next day, the person in charge was not keeping an eye on things and it seemed to take a long time to refill the coffee canisters. There are lots of fast food restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. I would like to thank the receptionist who suggested we go to the restaurant at Cher-ae Heights for an amazing sunset experience. The sunset and view were amazing, however, the service at the restaurant was dreadful.
I was in town on business and found my stay to be quite comfortable. My room was large, clean, and the bed was comfortable. The refrigerator was off when I arrived to save energy but cooled very quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was just average continental fare. Although I did not have my dogs with me; this is a pet friendly property and I loved the look of the dog area. It was so much larger than most and appeared very clean. Will stay there again.
location was good, but the freeway noise was pronounced. The breakfast had no variety . Same every morning. No meat items, no potatoes, only waffles and hard boiled eggs. It is not that the room was cheap, but we have stayed at Best Western hotels that were more upscale and still cost the same or less
I stay at this Best Western Frequently. The staff if great. They have added a couple of items to the breakfast. Hot Oatmeal with the trimmings and Plain Yogurt which I love. The only thing missing from their menu is hot eggs.
As with most BWI, the staff was very friendly and welcoming! The room was very spacious, especially for not being a "Plus" or "Premium" BW. HVAC was spot on and ample hot water was available. The bed and pillows were like floating on a cloud and we slept soundly! The only reason for 4 stars was the breakfast. It was crowded by 7:30 and the space is very limited. There were no scrambled eggs or sausage as is customary with most BWI and the orange juice was very diluted. Nonetheless, the biscuits and gravy were good. The fruit was below average. But don't let the breakfast stop you from staying at this location...there are plenty of places to eat right across the street and there is even a grocery store if you want to just run in and get something! I have to say, the cookies at the front desk were some of the best we've had at any hotel property! The front desk staff was the best!
We have stayed at the Best Western Arcata Inn for almost 16 years during our stays in Humboldt County. We are very happy with the pleasant and helpful staff and the nice, clean rooms. After so many years there, almost everyone knows us and makes us feel welcome once again. Best Western Arcata Inn will remain our motel of choice whenever we visit Humboldt County.
This is a very good stop along the way in Northern California and was the best buy of a recent trip. The rooms have been redone and are fresh and comfortable. The staff are friendly and there are restaurants nearby. They have a complimentary breakfast for a bite before hitting the road. The second floor rooms are preferable from a noise stand point and we haven't found any thing that compares with this along the coast for convenience and value.
Stopped on a long drive, did not see any sights in Arcata. The motel next door to this was yukky and some bums hanging outside the McDonalds two doors down, but this hotel felt very safe. The grounds are closed in, very well kept, pretty landscaping, the room was very very clean and large. Nice small pool. Friendly staff. It was quiet and we got a good night sleep. They need more laundry facilities, just one washer and dryer, had to wait for them and the dryer did not work, otherwise I would give them a 5 star review.
I needed to stay in the area for business, so I chose this hotel based on other reviews. The location is great -- not too far from the highway 101 exit. The front desk staff were very courteous and efficient. The property looks a bit run down, but the rooms are very clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The T.V was nice, and it had all of the basic channels. Internet is free and much better than most hotels. I was ab it worried about potential noise from the highway, but it wasn't an issue. The breakfast was O.K. - cold and dry cereal, various bread options, a waffle maker, but no eggs or protein. Also, it is pet friendly.
Overall, this place was OK. The people at the front desk were nice and the room was decent. However, the one issue we did run in to were ants. The room had ants, especially in the bathroom area. The continental breakfast was good, but they needed a LOT more seats. As the title says, for the price this place was just OK, but there appear to be some nicer places in the neighborhood.
Thank you to the check-in person who helped me get a lower level room (because of arthritis - going up and down stairs hurts). You were kind, conscientious and your got the job done. I screwed up and you made it better - thank you!
Great service with helpful recommendations for sights to see. Really nice breakfast was offered in the morning; everything was nice and fresh! The room was clean for the most part, but the bathroom window was rather odd.
We have stayed here numerous times but this last trip no one stepped up with any effort From the front desk to departure all we got was excuses One problem after another So much for the Reward program
I stayed on the first floor and there was a constant pulsing sound of running water (About 1 pulse per second), and it was very bothersome. I don't believe it is a common problem, as other reviews don't mention it. The problem may be solved if you stay on the second floor. Other than that, the room is very good. It is large, however it has older walls, although maintained and cleaned very nicely. All of the furniture was kept in good condition as well. The beds are very comfortable and come with very large pillows. During breakfast, there were not many items available. There was no meat, and the hard boiled eggs were cold. Other than the few problems, it was a nice stay and I would return again.
We chose this hotel for our stay in Arcata as we usually have very good experiences with the Best Western brand. We were in Arcata to visit Humboldt State University with our daughter. The hotel was very close to the college and many beautiful beaches as well. The front counter staff was very helpful both at check in and check out. They answered all our questions. The property, although older, was clean and our room (211) was very spacious. The only problem we found were the number of homeless people roaming the streets. We didn't notice any on the property though. Directly across the hotel was a small shopping center which had several places to eat and a grocery store. We walked to Round Table Pizza, ordered our pizza (expensive but delicious) and brought it back to the room. The breakfast was standard continental fare, nothing special but adequate for our needs. We will definitely stay here again when bringing our daughter up to the college.
I'm not sure what you are asking here. I'm looking the receive my traveling card. I want to receive my discount as soon as possible. I've already have missed out on many discounts in the past and feel at I am owed something for my loyality.
Stayed in Arcata so we could look at the Humbolt Sate campus. It was in the perfect driving location. The staff was friendly and ready to please. The breakfast was full of options like fruit and cereals. My daughter is vegan and my husband cannot have gluten but they had plenty of choices for them. They could improve the waffle batter as my 13 year old did not care for it. Our room was a bit small but clean.
I drove 4500km from Vancouver to Anaheim and back. This was the most reasonable and most relaxing hotel on our trip. The breakfast spread was very good and I would stay again. The hotels in Eureka were full so we stayed here 1 night.
After checking in, I tried to enter the room, but the keys didn't work, so I had to go back to the front desk and have them re-do the keys. Upon entering the warm room, I discovered that the AC didn't work properly. Upon laying on the bed, I found it to be way too soft. Since It was late, and since I was tired, I didn't want to have them try to remedy the issues. Not usually this many issues with Best Western, just not a good experience this time.
The rooms are very spacious and very quiet despite being next to a freeway, breakfast was adequate and the location was ideal being close to the freeway to go either north or south and also close to McKinleyville which has a host of places to eat.
Very spacious (standard) room with 2 queen beds and 2 desks. As celiacs we were delighted that they had Gluten Free bread for us at Breakfast something that Crowne Plaza and Hyatt Regency's don't even have (this year's travels). We usually stay at a VRBO in Arcata but this is our new go-to property. Fair value and much better than the adjoining properties that charge the same.
This Best Western property is a little smaller than many of the others where we have stayed; but it made up for it in service. Quick efficient check in (and check out.) Our room was an end unit at the back and was very quiet. We talked to many of the people staying here who indicated that this was a regular place they stayed. After eating breakfast and enjoying the ambiance; I could completely understand their reasoning. We'll be back!
So maybe this is not the most fair review. We were there over Halloween. Do yourself a favor and be elsewhere if at all possible unless you like being awake all night. Loud partying, frontdesk could not do anything, police refused to show up until daylight. Scattered drug use stuff, roaches, pipes (broken), clips, bags full of weed. (Right I just made this place popular) people laying on the sidewalks passed out... It was a real mess. Unless that is your thing... Stay away... Front desk attitude was, and this is an actual quote, "it is halloween in Arcata, what did you expect?" Yikes!
We were really happy with this accommodation, where we stayed for 3 nights. We were visiting a friend who goes to Humboldt State. It is a relatively small motel, but was excellent in just about every way. The rooms were large and reasonably priced, compared to many other CA locations. We had 2 chairs around a small table, plus a desk and chair, plus an upholstered comfy chair. This worked out well because we were there with other people, and we could sit and visit in the room. The microwave and frig were great to have too. The shower worked super-well, as there was a lot of water pressure. I am tired of staying in accommodations where the shower has one of these "green, low-flow" shower heads. This means you have to stay in the shower twice as long to wash your hair, so where is the water savings? Surprisingly, the breakfast was very good at this Best Western. There was the usual assortment of bagels and sweet rolls. They had a great coffee set-up with several types of coffee in thermal pots, plus syrups and whipped cream to make fancier coffee drinks. In addition, they actually had protein foods like yogurt, boiled eggs, and cheese sticks. I found a couple ants wandering around the bathroom; the heavy rains must have driven them in. I told the front desk and they were "on it" immediately, and even gave me extra reward points for the inconvenience. The in-room wifi was absolutely great. It was always available and had a strong signal for all 4 of our devices. This place is a winner, and we'll stay here again when we come back to Arcata for a visit!
Older hotel very well kept and clean lnside and out,Quiet with good beds pool was nice with novel inside and outside sections spa was clean and temp was nice, Staff was friendly and helpful,. would stay again,
Room was average. Clean and nice. Hot tub was nice. Too cold this time of year to use the indoor/outdoor pool though. Free breakfast basic continental. Coffee in the room was awful but the coffee in the breakfast room was good.
Our room was clean and there was plenty of parking. The pool and hot tub were very nice, albeit very chlorinated. The breakfast was decent, but didn't offer any meat and the only eggs were hard boiled. This is a good location for visiting the redwood forest. The gentlemen working the desk in the morning were very friendly and had great recommendations for places to sightsee.
Pro's: great location and price for where it is in Arcata. Near 101 and 299. Across the street from grocery store, fast food and my favorite Kebab Cafe (a must try-excellent). The grounds are clean and room was fine. A true Best Western Con's: I wasn't comfortable walking around after sun set. The bus stop is a mecca for the homeless and transients. The parking lot across the street had every exit blocked one day by someone holding a sign. I'm ok with the homeless but this area had more than its share for some reason
This Best Western is conveniently located off the freeway but is not noisy. It's close to the bay, has restaurants across the street which you can walk to and the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. The beds at the Best Western are always extremely comfortable.
For some reason, college towns in California do not seem to have really nice hotels. The best you can hope for is something clean and quiet. That is what we got at the Best Western. The staff was very cordial and made us feel very welcome. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable but outdated. This is an older property, and the rooms open to the outside. We did not travel with our dog, but the hotel allows pets. There is a very nice, large grassy area for dogs. The wifi was good. The breakfast that is provided was very, very basic. What we really liked about the hotel was that it was very quiet, in spite of the fact that it was pretty full the weekend we were there. One of the things we didn't like is that they do not provide small shampoo, conditioner, etc. They have one of those dispensers in the shower that they fill up with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Ours must have been clogged as the conditioner barely came out. Who knows how long that stuff had been sitting in those dispensers? Yuck.
I choose this place totally off a website. It is in a good location (maybe hotel row?). Places to eat nearby and close to the freeway. The rooms are nice and spacious. The bed and pillows excellent. Surprisingly great breakfast. Free too! Fresh cookies available all day. But the best was Robert at the front desk. He made me feel welcome, he is FABULOUS.
This motel provided a warm, dry, cleanish place for travelers. It seemed a bit outdated, although carpets look fairly new. For a pet room, it did not smell, so that was very gratifying. All in all, fair value for what we needed.
Bryan has been here since we started coming to the coast, always friendly and knowledgeable. 7 yrs ago signed me up for Best Western rewards. We enjoy the breakfast and the spa/pool every time. The rooms are always nice, clean and comfortable. Great job staff! Compliments to the house keeping for an outstanding job! We will be back.
Everything was great, only just make the pool and the jacuzzi with a temperature gauge to make the water temperature warmer. The breakfast was very plentiful and my room was right next to the vending machines which was nice when I needed a quick snack.
I have stayed at this property for over 500 nights over an 18 year period. During this time, the property has been consistently upgraded in ways big and small. Locally owned, the Inn is friendly people doing their best to make sure you are at home while you are away from home. Great value.
We had traveled all day through on and off bad weather. When we finally arrived in Arcata, it was really raining and was very dark. The staff recommended a great restaurant for dinner and gave us very good directions, which were much needed in the bad weather. When we came back into the lobby, we discussed our travel for the following day. We planned to go to California. A better route was recommended, which turned out to be shorter and faster. The route that looked good on our map actually was about 80 miles longer and through bad snow. The gentlemen also gave us a BW map of three states and Hawaii. This was actually a better map than our old Rand McNally and easier to keep. The map alone was a big bonus. Thank you B.W.
We have stayed at the Best Western Arcata Inn whenever in the Humboldt County area for the past 16 years. Obviously, we are happy with the motel and its staff. The staff remains fairly constant, and it is always nice to enter the door and have whoever is at the desk say" Welcome back." The rooms are always neat and clean, and the grounds are kept up nicely. This is where we will continue to stay as long as the facility remains the same as it has for the past 16 years we have enjoyed it.
A very pleasant stay in Arcata over the Christmas Holiday. Having the indoor hot tub directly across from the guest room was quite nice during cold, rainy weather. Staff was extremely helpful and cooperative. I will definitely stay there again when I return to visit family in the area.
The Arcata Inn is our idea of a perfect hotel for a road trip. The property is very well maintained, the staff are always cheerful and helpful and the rooms are comfortable. There are some very interesting things to visit in the Arcata area and even though the Arcata Inn isn't right in the middle of town it is very well located for almost everything one would want to visit.
Positives: Laundry service, pool, and hot tub in hotel. Close by car to tourist sites. Hotel is well maintained and staff is friendly and helpful. Negatives: Immediate neighborhood is safe but charmless.
First... I checked in with front desk they were so helpful and kind. The homemade cookies were amazing!!! Robert helped me with my luggage, and Aubrey showed me a list of restaurants and parks to go to in area. The room was very clean and new looking, and quiet at night. The breakfast waffles were yummy! I would recommend this place to anyone. cant speak for the hotels on the rest of the block but this one is a gem!!!
We enjoyed staying at the best Western, Arcata. The service was great from check-in to the cleaning staff. We really appreciate the fact that they allow dogs. They also have an area for them behind the hotel which is great.
for the price it was a good hotel,I never use the breakfast they offer at any hotel, but from what i have seen this hotel has a decent selection, the beds are great and the rooms are quite,I would say the only bad thing i could say about this hotel is they allow pets, for some people that is a good thing,I have never found anything in the rooms that would indicate that a animal had stayed in the room
We were expecting a little more since it was rated so highly on Tripadvisor. It was fine. Basic place but nothing special. The bathroom floor was a little sketchy to me so I threw down a towel. It was mostly quiet tho we could hear the person next door watching the news in the morning. They do have wifi but I couldn't get mine to connect.
I have stayed here many times over the last seven years. I often stay here when I am visiting Humboldt State University. The motel really isn't a destination itself, however if you have a family and need a place to stop and relax for a day on a long trip it will serve, and children will enjoy the pool. There so much to see and do in the immediate area that you definitely need to take some time to look around – from the ocean, Patrick's Point State Park, downtown Arcata, and then there's Humboldt State which almost always has loads of activities going on. But back to the motel; the staff are friendly, the rooms have always been clean and comfortable. The breakfast are a simple selection of toast, waffles, hard-boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt and the like. The catering staff do appreciate tips. The free wifi is nice as well. Overall a fine place to stay when you're visiting Arcata.
This was my 2nd stay at this hotel and I will continue to come back. Reasonable price and a very friendly staff. Large rooms. Nothing extra fancy but simple and well done. You can't go wrong staying here.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fine. I was disappointed that the rooms were not enclosed within the hotel that they opened to outdoors. I try to always stay where the rooms are entered within the hotel. I travel alone and feel safer in the rooms inside the hotel. I did feel the hotel room was overpriced compared to other hotels.
The accomodations were nice and convenient to my son's apartment (near Humboldt University). There were plenty of fast food places nearby as well and easy freeway access with little noise. It is also convenient to Eureka (7 miles) where there is more shopping and restaurants.
Really like the hospitality the employees give you. They really make you feel welcome and at home. The place is very clean and close to restaurants. Great location and easy access on and off the freeway. Plenty of parking and truck parking.
We only stayed here one night on our way through California. The motel is well maintained and easily accessible from the highway. We had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the lobby. We requested this so I could keep an eye on my motorcycle. Very accommodating staff and they had no issues with making that happen. Clean rooms, good wi-fi and a great breakfast with lots of choices made this a welcome and positive choice. If we have to come through this way again, I would definitely stay here.
The room was large and comfortable and the staff was friendly. Good location just a few miles from Humboldt State and downtown Arcata. Breakfast was fine and the wifi was fast. Some noisy guests our second night. We would stay there again.
For once, the website pictures for this hotel do justice to this Best Western. Clean, comfortable and up to date rooms with all of the amenities a family traveling with a dog would need. Great area to let your favorite four legged traveling companion stretch those four legs. Nice breakfast. Will keep this one on our list to return to when we come back thru Arcata
Very clean, friendly staff, and the grounds are kept up. I love this hotel and would recommend to family and friends. The rooms are always clean, the grounds are pet friendly and staff is helpful. The breakfast offered is better than most with a lot of selections.
This is perhaps where "Best Western" got the name because BW Arcata Inn is one of the best Best Westerns we have stayed at and could set the standard for all in the price range. The property is clean and well maintained inside and out and the staff act like they are actually happy you are staying with them. The breakfast was surprisingly good with a presentation of an excellent variety of food and drink but the fresh cinnamon rolls were worth the trip by themselves.
Excellent place for a clean, quiet, and comfortable stay. Did not use the pool/spa or try out the continental breakfast but I knew they were available. This was just a quick business trip and I wanted to feel comfortable away from home.
a real charmer, nice rooms/service, beautifully done gardens; highly recommend Rob Fowler as a birding guide in Arcata marshes .... although he's not associated with motel .... hope the staff at motel know about him
Thought everything was really great. Good service, very comfortable bed and room, Quiet . Nice breakfast . Reasonably priced. Close to any shopping needs you may have. Good restaurants across the street. Very close to the freeway , yet no noise heard.
the day I got to this property I had flown 5.5 hours from ohio, jumped in a rental car in sacramento, and drove another 6 hours to arcata. half of the drive was on a very scenic, but very slow and winding, 2 lane road through the forests. to say the least, with travel and 3 hr time change, I was pretty dazed. I was greeted by a young front desk staff member named Aubrey. after checking in and driving the length of the parking lot to get to my room, there was Aubrey. without being asked, she had walked down to where i was. she grabbed a bag or two and helped me carry them up the steps to my second floor room. thank you Aubrey!! you made an impression that will bring me back.
We went over reviews for the area hotels and decided on the Best Western. I must say that we were very happy with our choice. The staff are very nice, the gardening is spectacular and the rooms were the cleanest I've ever seen. You give Best Western a good name!
We really enjoyed this hotel. EVERYTHING worked well. The Staff was helpful, available 24 hrs., and plentiful. The Room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable. There were plenty of chairs, tables, and dressers. The pool was both indoor and outdoor. It was very nice as was the hot tub. The breakfast was also very good. We had fresh waffles, hard boiled eggs, oranges, bananas, cheese, juice, coffee, tea, yogurt and there were many items we skipped. Great hotel for the price.
Conveniently located off Hwy. 101 in northern California between Eureka and Crescent City. Everything was up to the Best Western accommodation standard, welcome cookies at the front desk, local newspaper, and friendly welcoming staff. We travel with a dog and they had a welcoming treat for her too. The indoor-outdoor pool and spa were functioning and clean with plenty of towels on hand. The room was very well appointed and comfortable. New TV, working fridge and microwave and even a recliner to sit back and read the newspaper. This was a great choice!
We were met with a smile and a welcome, quickly given our keys and instructions which was important as we were very tired after a extremely long day. The room was clean, well painted and had nice quality furniture and decor. The carpet was in good shape. I was pleased to see a recycle bin in the room. The grounds were well kept with a gazebo and picnic benches on a large grassy area. There were many different flowering plants which were well trimmed. The beds were comfortable although the sheets felt a little rough. We were comfortably warm while sleeping and never had to turn on the heater. The TV was of a decent size and was a flat screen Philips. The desk was large enough to accommodate computer and various papers. The toilet was not a water saving type and I was surprised that they weren't using the water saving trick of a brick or a full 2 liter bottle in the tank to save water in this drought stricken part of California. The knob on our bathtub/shower was marked incorrectly in direct opposition to the plate under the knob. I nearly scalded myself when I used the knob as my guide. The outdoor/indoor pool was actually of a size large enough to do laps (albeit only a few strokes from one end to the other) and the temperature of the water was almost comfortable (I am from a warmer climate). Breakfast was a bit more than the standard continental with hard boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, a variety of coffees and string cheese plus a choice of cereals or oatmeal of course. The attendant was great (and friendly!) and worked hard to restock and keep up with the influx of individuals. The hotel is probably not in an area you'd want to go walking or running in but largely because of the nonexistent lighting on the streets and it is in a more heavily trafficked area. The room was fairly quiet however.
Has a great indoor outdoor pool. reasonable breakfast. nice size room. pet friendly. Staff was very helpful. easy access location right off the 101. good value for the quality of the rooms and breakfast served.
The room I had was large with two queen size beds. I didn't find the one I slept in to be very comfortable. The room was very clean and the television and other accessories were all in good working order. All the hotels seem to be in the same area which to me is too far from the great little township of Arcata, especially if you like to have a drink with your dinner. Breakfast was a simple affair of helping your self to cereal or muffins etc. It didn't appeal to me at all so I gave it a miss!
When we arived no one was in the office to check us in , (A PIECE OF CARDBOARD ON COUNTER SAID BE RIGHT BACK) BY TIME THEY CAME BACK THERE WAS SERVERAL PEOPLE AND A LARGE DOG IN LOBY). waiting to check in. While I was checking in the dog was running around and standing up and leaning on counter, after he gave me my room key he then told the owners to put a leash on the dog.
While we thought this hotel was over priced for the season...we were impressed with the pains the ownership has taken obviously to keep this older "court style" motel in good shape. It was clean and comfortable enough for one night. They even labeled the flowers/plants planted around the courtyard. Very sweet.
nice place to stay and great for traveling with dogs, nice area to exercise dogs and good selection on breakfast. Staff was helpful when I called ahead to make reservations. Note to other people that travel with dogs: Please clean up after your dogs
Decent accommodations at a reasonable price but noisy. A block away from Hi-way 101, and the outside pool, in the middle of the motel green area is open until 10:00 p.m. so kids screaming made it hard to relax or sleep before then. Breakfast area was very small and over-crowded in the morning. Make you own waffle machines. Fantastic free chocolate chip cookies- more chips than cookie!
My family and I love this hotel, we'd prefer to stay here over any other hotels in the area. The rooms are clean, spacious, and aside from the passing fellow guests very quiet. The pool are is very clean and nicely decorated, love going in the jacuzzi. The property is very nice and well manicured with beautiful plants and flowers. There's picnic tables and barbecues available. Heck, even the pet area is pretty! Breakfast is pretty average but they have EXCELLENT coffee choices and creamers. My one and only complaint is that the breakfast area is too small to cater to the amount of people frequenting it. More than 6 people and it becomes a bit uncomfortable and cramped. If they could expand the building a little, it would be great. I will continue to stay here with my family and I would recommend it to anyone staying in the area.
Hotel is off the Interstae, clean rooms, good size, breakfast average, small area for it. Didn't use the pool but it looked good (1/2 indoor 1/2 outdoor with a partial wall). Not much around there for amenities, but if your looking for a 1 night road trip type of hotel this is good. Although if I was driving through this area again I would probably try to stay in Trinidad! Such a beautiful small town.
We stayed at the Best Western in Arcata, CA this weekend. We haven't had the best luck with hotels in Arcata in the past. Best Western staff, was more than friendly when booking the stay over the phone. Upon arriving we were greeted by the front desk, and offered fresh baked cookies. The staff made sure to explain where the pool, hot tub and breakfast were located. Our room was clean, and had more than enough included. ( mini fridge / small freezer, microwave, ac,) and other small extras including, real glasses for water, make up remover pads, on demand with current movies, and high speed Internet wifi. The only minor complaint I had, was that it was a little louder than expected. I think next time we would request to be on the 2nd floor, rather than the first. I also was a bit bummed that the rooms all faced to the outside, more like a motel. The previous Best Westerns we have stayed at were all indoors. All around, great stay. We will definitely be back!
I stayed at Best Western Arcata Inn for one night and it was a super nice experience. The staff was very friendly and my room was extremely comfortable, especially given I was on a road trip on my own carrying a bunch of things. The breakfast was good and they have some nice facilities. Terrific hotel! I highly recommend this hotel to anybody staying in Arcata.
