"Could not believe the experience I had"

1
User 10/01/2023

The two women who check us in on Saturday afternoon , Jan. 7th were fantastic. They were friendly and helpful answering questions, as was the woman who served the hot breakfast in the morning. HOWEVER, the rest of the stay was a disaster that could have been easily corrected but the man at the desk overnight refused to take action. There was a group of ADULTS drinking from the afternoon through 2am that were LOUD, SWEARING, and harassing people walking by, including my children. At 12:30am I finally went to the front desk to ask the man working overnight if he could ask them to quiet down. We were there for a soccer tournament, had an early game and they preventing my kids from sleeping. As I approached the desk the phone rang and it was someone ELSE complaining about this group of adults. The front desk worker (I didnt catch his name, a larger man) said to the caller ",PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THOSE #@%^ ALL NIGHT, I CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM". During the phone call, ANOTHER parent came to the front desk, again this was close to 12:40am now, to complain about the noise from these same people. I told the front desk worker that I was actually here for the same thing. The front desk worker said "I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM, I DON'T WANT TO GET INVOLVED" The other parent suggested maybe the hotel should call the police and the worker responded "WE ARE NOT CALLING THE $*&%^ POLICE, THERES NOT MUCH I CAN DO". Baffled, we walked back to our rooms, not understanding why he would not leave the desk to just ask them to quiet down!?! Around 2am the same group of people were walking in the hallways shouting and swearing. I opened my door to ask if they could please be quiet, before I could say anything one of the party looked at me and started walking towards my room, his wife (?) pulled him away and I shut and locked the door. I called the front desk and said they were STILL keeping people up. He said "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU" I asked if we could get a late checkout at least and he said we could. When I got the bill, he had charged me $10 for the late checkout. The woman who took his place that morning happily removed it from the bill when I explained that he didn't mention a fee, just that he would give us a late checkout. I waited a full 48 hours before writing this. I expect bumps in the road when travelling and I fully understand that the world is not perfect, but this worker was OUT OF LINE

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for letting us know about your stay. We have taken steps to make sure this doesn't happen again. I do apologize and thank you for letting me know.

"Fab Hotel stay!!"

Love staying at this hotel for business! Had a door issue that was fixed right away! Pleasant staff. Enjoyed the cleanliness of the pool area and room. Will stay again. The direct access rooms are a plus!! Large comfy rooms.

"Beware of the pool"

2
User 07/11/2022

While to pool is set up nicely for children, the chemicals are very strong! We had burning, red skin for days after our stay due to the chemicals. When I told a staff person, they indicated that the chemicals had been checked "a few days ago and it was fine". It absolutely was not fine when we were there.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you, Angie, for your review. As I mentioned before our pool is checked twice a day. We are still trying to figure out why our chemicals were off this weekend.

"Excellent Stay/Very Nice Hotel"

User 03/10/2022

This is a wonderful hotel with exceptional staff. We will stay here again! The rooms were very nice and clean. The staff worked very hard to make sure everyone was well cared for, and it showed. Thanks so much for a nice wedding weekend!

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thanks for the wonderful review. I hope you have a wonderful week.

"Kanye West - “[Ramkota] doesn't care about Black People”"

1
Whyyoumad01, Aberdeen, South Dakota 04/09/2022

There are two to three staff members out of them all that truly care about their customer's comfort, regardless of age, race, or gender. The rest of them, and there's a lot, struggled over the course of my 10-day, $1,200 plus stay at the Ramkota during the first two weeks of college (the deluxe breakfast staff is excluded; great customer service).

Front Desk, Guest Services / Front Office at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better experience for guests in the future. I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience. Thank you for your feedback!

"Good Amenities, Overpriced"

2
Relax5573700, Saint Paul, Minnesota 29/08/2022

Great pool, delicious restaurant. Hotel is older and has received updates but there were some issues with the room door. No elevator and no communication about it prior to having a full luggage cart and starting to head to our room. Not worth the weekend rate of $170 a night.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for letting me know about your stay. I do apologize our desk wasn't more helpful giving you options to your room. We do have a newer staff at the desk, we certainly will continue to educate to be better in the future. Thanks for staying with us and I hope you will give us another chance to serve you in the future.

"Best western ramkota"

1
gunnerhaug, Castlewood, South Dakota 22/08/2022

Reserved two nights in order for a morning check in on the second night, but they gave away our room for Friday. Front desk lady was rude and unhelpful. We had to postpone my daughters birthday making it very inconvenient for guests. When we got there that afternoon there was blood on the bed comforter. Then they had no clean comforter to replace it.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Gunner, thanks for letting me know about your stay. We gave away your room the night before because you didn't check in and were a no-show. We had no idea you wanted in the room early the next day. I do apologize for our desk agent, if she was anything but professional.

"Great stay!"

5
chassen2022, Robins, Iowa 17/08/2022

The room was exceptionally clean and staff were always kind and helpful. Our 7 year old had a blast in the pool - definitely kid friendly. I think she would have spent every waking hour there, if possible! Thanks for the great stay!

"Fantastic"

Awesome service, thank you for everything. We have stayed in the past and everything has always been wonderful. Please keep up the good work. Your bosses should all be very proud of you and the services you provide.

"Loved My Stay"

5
BigDawg0341, Lake Stevens, Washington 06/08/2022

If y'all are anything like me there are certain things I need to feel at a hotel; Warm, kind, professional Staff, cleanliness of the building and rooms, bed and pillow comfort, room temperature, good food and the location of the facility. This particular Best Western checked every last box! Honestly, they even exceeded my expectations! I had an amazing stay and you will too!

"You Call That Handicapped?"

2
barbncoco, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 18/07/2022

Literally impossible to maneuver a wheelchair. Even a walker is questionable. They put a grab bar BEHIND the toilet and labeled it handicapped!!! Not enough maneuvering space around the two queen beds. It's an older facility and we could still smell the old stale smoke immediately upon entering. They added a couple grab bars in their old regular bathrooms and labeled them handicapped. My stay at a Hampton Inn was so much better and it cost the same $200 for one night/double occupancy.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Barbncoco for taking the time and reviewing our hotel. I do apologize we didn't meet your expectations. We have a couple different type of handicap accessible rooms. We have the type you are describing and another that is wheel chair accessible. It sounds like you where looking for the latter type of room. I am sorry for the confusion. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any further questions or concerns.

"Convention Center and sleeping rooms"

2
Yvonne H, Murdo, United States 18/07/2022

Nobody at hotel desk often and forget getting anyone on the phone there. Expect to use your towels for your stay or obtain more at the desk yourself. and make your own beds as hotel staff do not make up the rooms until you leave. The convention center had a sewer odor. The indoor courtyard had leaves dropping on the tables constantly. Needs trimming back. Some of the Dakota Rooms were hot. Difficult to work with catering and the convention staff. Changes were not articulated to the planner long before the convention and there were alot of surprises. Like being told that a meal that included coffee and water would have a coffee table and would cost extra after 1.5 gallons for each meal (that served 32 people, when we had 100 to 120 meals ordered for the lunches and dinners) Not quit adequate would you say. Their catering book clearly stated what was offered for the price, but surprisingly was not supplied as stated. The meals for gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan were not too creative at first with dry lettuce salads for 3 complete meals. They did get better by the 4th meal. The staff did work hard to serve the meals hot and helped people when there were buffets ordered. I would commend the wait staff who were young but tried to please. Thank you.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Yvonne, thanks for taking the time and letting us know about your stay. I am sorry we didn't meet all your convention needs. I know our catering staff worked closely with Curtis on allot of the details for the convention. I am not sure if you sat in on those meetings. We certainly learn from your comments and we will things a little differently next time. Please accept my apologies. I hope you have a great rest of your summer.

"Clean and friendly"

5
kareneretz, Aneta, North Dakota 17/07/2022

I was attending a convention for 4 days. As a rule, I don't mind using the linens (towels, etc) more than once. I was glad to have the option to do so. (Save water and eco-friendly) Internet connection was a bit slow, but worked fine..

"Building is run down"

1
michaelswisher1979, Aberdeen, South Dakota 20/06/2022

The building is run down, the door frame was rusty, the door handle only opens when the handle was lifted, the swimming pool closing time was not enforced so sleeping was a chore, the pool area has no ac so made the pool side rooms extremely humid. Entrance number 2 smells like a family of mice live there.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Michael, thank you for the review of our property. I do apologize we didn't exceed your expectations. I will certainly get these items taken care of, many are a simple fix. I hope if your ever in the area again you will give us another chance to serve you. Again please accept my apologize for all the inconveniences.

"Room Window View Is Into a Conference Room!"

2
User 07/06/2022

The view out of the only window in the room was into a functioning indoor conference room. At a minimum, this should have been noted at the time of booking. Otherwise, the room was clean and quiet. The staff were friendly.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Jon, thank you for your review of our property. We do have a few rooms with the view you described. We will certainly note this for future reservations. Thank you so much for the tip and thanks for staying with us. Have a great rest of your summer.

"Not too bad, kinda"

3
User 09/05/2022

we did not know there was no elevator so we dragged our luggage up to the room, the room was clean, but at 11:30 ish when we got back we realize there was no shower curtain, we didn't want to wait to get it all figured out so I took a shower with out one. the next morning I went to the desk and told them, they said we could wait till maintenance got there so they could install one, SERIOUSLY????

"Don't pass up"

5
glendahE2636MY, Winnipeg, Canada 31/03/2022

Isn't fancy on the outside however the friendly, helpful staff make up for it. Perfect location off hwy 281 This location had clean comfortable rooms with delicious coffee and many many breakfast items to chose from.

"Nice stay, but noisy"

5
User 28/03/2022

The hotel is nice, the staff at the hotel was friendly, had a horrible time getting through on the phone before our stay, lots of guests, so the pool was packed, continental breakfast was good, internet was a little slow and lagged when watching a movie. It was very noisy late into the night. My kids had a hard time sleeping. Rooms were a little expensive because there was a basketball tourney in town. Would have been cheaper at another time. Hotel is on the far end of town away from most food and shopping.

"Not the best"

2
User 28/03/2022

Hair in the shower and toilet. Called front desk 2 times for a roll-a-way bed and went down there, they never brought it but made sure to charge me. The next day there was one in the hall 2 doors down. The guy working night shift could sure use a customer service training, he was rude.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Sara I am so sorry for your experience. We have taken the roll away off your room. Somehow this was delivered to the wrong room. We will get the employee issues taken care of. Thank you so much for staying with us and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

"Worst experience"

1
User 10/01/2022

Got charged for 3 nights instead of 2 and the front desk lady was so rude. Never staying here again. She wouldn't even tell me how to fix the 3 night stay, she was something else. Called Monday and they said I was never charged for 3 nights my card was just holding it. So why take out 457$ don't make sense. I'll be calling corporate

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
April, thank you for your thoughts. I do apologize for the front desk agent. There is no reason for her to be rude. We will certainly take care of the problem. Your cards were never charged for 3 nights. Our records indicate we charge each room for only one night. Cards are authorized at check in. If more than one card was presented, a second card may have been authorized. These drop off after a few days. Please call me back so we can explain the authorization process.

"Unfortunate"

2
User 08/11/2021

We stayed here for a wedding reception out of convenience. The price was comparable to many others in the town. Our refrigerator didn't work, someones dirty clothes were left on the shelf and floor of our closet, and there were gobs of hair, lint etc behind the top mattress. We don't expect much, but we do expect clean! Sorry, we won't stay again.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for letting us know about your stay. I do apologize for the housekeeping issues. We will continue to train and get better. We will get it fixed. Thank you.

"Above and Beyond to keep us cool!"

4
User 06/10/2021

We arrived late on the evening of September 13, 2021. When we got to our room the air was not working and it was warm in the room. Maria gave us her personnel fan to use while we stayed there. The air in the room would work now over the next few days, so having the fan was a lifesaver! Maria should be recognized for going above and beyond! She gave up her personal comfort to make our stay more comfortable.

"Best hotel I've stayed at in a long time."

5
User 26/09/2021

Staying here was one of the nicer experiences I've had in hotels. It was absolutely clean, and the people are exceptionally friendly. The price isn't out of line (100 bucks give or take) they have a pool that's clean and beautiful and a restaurant that has excellent food. The restaurant was fully staffed which today is unusual and in restaurant . I would say the management there must be very good. Each of the staff from the manager to the housekeeping staff always tried hard to be sure that we were fully satisfied and I mean they almost overdid it so I was just really really pleased.

"Wet floor"

2
User 01/09/2021

Floor was wet from air conditioner and my issue was made to be nothing wrong even though half the floor in my room was very soaked front desk did little to nothing to resolve the issue. I was unable to check in on time cause my room was still being cleaned. Not sure how the wet floor was overlooked while being cleaned.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Mike, thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will make the necessary changes and we will get the problems taken care of. I hope you and your family have a great holiday weekend.

"Sad stay"

2
jfaine84, Fargo, North Dakota 30/08/2021

I wouldn't recommend this location. The pool was very dirty. The water in the pool was a brownish color and smelled. The hot tub was off limits with yellow water in it. Halls and rooms were not sound proof at all.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for letting us know about your stay. Our pool area is very popular on the weekends. We will increase our checks of the chemicals on the weekends. We will get the problem taken care of. I do apologize for the issues you experienced during your stay. We always strive to make all stays memorable. I hope you and your family have a great weekend.

"Clean rooms and pleasant staff members"

5
Kierra Z, Aberdeen, South Dakota 30/08/2021

Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful with checking in. She made the process quick and easy. Room and bathroom were very clean when we got to the room. Beds were extremely comfortable. Did not go down for breakfast in the morning, so not sure on quality of that aspect.

"Very nice people"

5
User 19/08/2021

Rooms and property were clean. Bed was comfortable. Hotel was quiet. Having a Minervas right there is fantastic. Great food. All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. I will be back on my next trip.

"Outdated"

2
User 13/08/2021

This property is outdated. They have made a small investment trying to make updates. The property is old and you can really tell. The room air conditioning unit never shut off. They have a tow rope stretched across the pool between 2 poles for the kids to hang on. The breakfast area is a disaster.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Kevin thank you for feedback. We are in the process of replacing the rope across the pool. The breakfast area does get crowded on busy weekends but there is plenty of seating and plenty of food. Thank you for staying with us and I hope you will give us another chance to serve you.

"Excellent Experience"

5
User 09/08/2021

This was the quickest check-in that I have ever experienced at any hotel in the past. The receptionist was very friendly. The hotel and all of the amenities were great. Our room was very clean. I would definitely stay there again.

"Friendly to us and pets! Helpful staff, quiet location, great beds"

5
reneej906, Bowman, North Dakota 05/08/2021

We really appreciated the welcome and friendliness of all the staff. Check in was quick and parking close. Room was clean, beds very comfortable. Breakfast is very good--something for everyone and served by friendly staff.

"Broken bathroom door"

2
Amanda S, Delhi, Iowa 27/07/2021

Our daughter was trapped inside the bathroom due to a broken bathroom door. The front desk was unavailable by phone. I had to leave her in the bathroom (crying hysterically) and run to the front desk (carrying my youngest) only to find no one there either. The waitress at the restaurant ran off to find someone for me. Very dissatisfied with this is service in an emergency.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thanks Amanda for letting us know about your stay. I certainly apologize for the problems with the door and our desk agent being away from her post. We are looking into ways to avoid this type of situation in the future. We will get the problem fixed.

"Great Family Hotel But No Elevator"

4
worknmom2, Bolingbrook, Illinois 12/07/2021

All staff were very pleasant and the room was very clean. The pool was really cute and young kids would absolutely love it. Unfortunately the hot tub was not working during my stay. The parking lot needs to be fixed as there were several pot holes. There is no elevator so if you have mobility issues request a room on the first floor. My room was on the 2nd floor and the hotel was full but they sent someone to help carry our luggage upstairs.

"No hot water, shower didn't work"

1
User 27/06/2021

We had a family gathering for the weekend and none of us had hot water in our rooms; in fact, most of the hotel rooms were without hot water. We checked in on Friday and nothing was said about the hot water issue. We found out on Saturday that there was no hot water on Thursday already, but the hotel didn't mention the issue when we checked in. As if that wasn't bad enough, the shower in our room didn't work. This is a simple fix, the water diverter was bad, but we were told they didn't have the part they needed. Seriously, I could have gone to Menards, bought the part that was needed, and installed it myself! We complained at the front desk twice, but got nowhere. Tried to called the manager about the issues, he wouldn't answer his phone. I should also mention there was splatter on the under side of our toilet seat, it obviously had not been cleaned.Find a different hotel to stay at in Aberdeen! This is the only money they will ever get from us. I will also have to contact my card company because the pending charges and what my checkout paper says is very different.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for letting me know about your stay. I do apologize for the issues you encountered. We did have a hot water issue this weekend but didn't know how severe it was until late Friday. We are still working to correct the problem. The housekeeping and maintenance issue will be addressed with the appropriate department heads. We will get the problems fixed. Robin, please give me a call I would like to discuss these issues more with you. 605-229-4040 is the hotels number.

"No hot water in my room"

3
jennifertrett, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 27/06/2021

Tried to wash my face the night we stayed in the hotel and the water never got hot. Never thought too much about it until tried to take a shower the following morning and the water was cold. I told a person who appeared to be more maintenance person than anything at the front desk because the receptionist at desk was on the phone. They said that a part had broken and was being shipped so could repair what I assume was the water heater. I went to breakfast and several people in the dining area were talking about no hot water, too.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank Jennifer, we did have a motor go out that caused the hot water issue this past weekend. Obviously never a good time for it to happen, but the weekend is a little worse. We will get it fixed. Thank you for staying with us.

"Very very tired facility- poor poor- I do not recommend - no four on closet, no luggage rack, ice machine does not wo"

1
craiganddeb2021, Prior Lake, Minnesota 27/06/2021

No door on closet -no luggage rack- no working ice dispenser- no towels in pool area, hot tub looks as if it was been out if service for a long....time.no one at desk for 3: pm check in- note laying on desk- left to do an errand. Overall terrible bad

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
CraigandDeb, please accept my apologize for the problems you encountered during your stay. We are waiting on parts for both the hot tub and the one ice machine that is out of order. They will be fixed as soon as the parts arrive. I will certainly look into why we had a luggage rack missing and why our front desk agent needed to step away from the desk. We will get these items taken care of. Thank you so much for letting us know about your stay. Please feel free to give me a call if you have further questions.

"Very nice place to Stay, Will Stay here again when We are on the Road"

5
ChloeCat42, Washington, United States 17/06/2021

Pet friendly, Restaurant was nice and food was good. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was a bit basic and the eggs tasted like powder. There was also no real variety to breakfast, it was pretty much and eggs and sausage links. One day there was French toast, which was well prepared. Staff were friendly enough but there was one evening were there was NO ONE at the front-desk for at least 15 minutes (that I know of) and no one would answer the hotel number. I know because I called several times for a gentlemen that came in looking for a room and after waiting about 7 minutes, left. Two more gentlemen came in after that, they also left after a few minutes but I think they might have been part of a group that check in as I was leaving, who also had to wait for someone to show up at the front-desk. I did let a supervisor know about this.

Was accommodating, the lady at the front desk was very helpful even when I asked if I could change rooms to be closer to our trap team so apologized and said she would have if there were other rooms open

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you John for the review. I hope you have a wonderful week.

"Amenities Lacking a bit"

3
User 04/06/2021

The pool area was SUPER cold. They had windows way up high open, and it was 50 degrees outside. We had adjoining room with my sisters family and that was nice. We were on the pool side and our room smelled terribly of chlorine when we would first walk back in. Our room came with 2 towels, and when we asked for 3 more we only got 2, so had to use a pool towel. Breakfast was decent. Sucks that everything is currently individually wrapped; so much plastic waste. They also ranout of sausage the one morning which was a bummer. Coffee in the lobby was cold, and weirdly foamy.

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time and letting us know about your stay. We certainly will be addresses these issues and they will be fixed. I do apologize for the lack of towels, we normally have 3 sets per room. Thank you for staying with us and I hope if your in the area again you will give us another chance to serve you.

"Stay away"

1
pnwjeff2021, Bellevue, Washington 18/05/2021

Hotel is run down, service is mediocre, restaurant is awful. No housekeeping service. No amenities. Beware the facade this hotel shares. Beds and pillows were terrible! Shower is dirty and no water pressure. The entire facility smells of cigarette smoke badly!

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear guest, I certainly do apologize you did not enjoy your stay. We are not doing stay over housekeeping per Best Western mandate. I am sorry if our front desk did not mention this at check in. I would certainly like to discuss the rest of this with you. Please feel free to give the hotel a call and ask for me.

cobwebs in the corners, hair in the tub, dust on picture frames, paid extra for jacuzzi tub in the room, jacuzzi non functioning, morning breakfast eggs tasted like rubber, had same texture as a pencil eraser,

This hotel has some of the comfiest beds. Best sleep you can get in a hotel. The rooms are very spacious. Great having an established restaurant right there in the hotel. Swimming pool is big and great if you were to do a family event.

Thank you for the review. I am so happy you and your family enjoyed the pool area. Its really kid friendly and a big hit. Hope to see you on your next trip to Aberdeen.

"Great stay, hot breakfast"

User 15/10/2020

Our favorite part of this hotel is that they still serve hot breakfast.we felt safe due to individually wrapped items and the use of gloves while you were making your breakfast. It was so nice with a picky toddler to have options. The pool area was great for kids. We had a small snafu with our first room, but they quickly corrected the issue and got us set up a new room right away.it was nice that the restaurant was open in the hotel. The food was amazing and the service was friendly. Looking forward to coming back

Was very dissatisfied with the difference of the price quoted when I made the reservation and the price charged at checkout. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the quoted price. I stayed at another Ramkota and did not have this problem!!

"Disappointing"

User 14/07/2020

The outside of the hotel was off putting and hard to navigate. The exterior door near our room had a sign that it was locked during certain hours but the door itself was broken so it was never locked. The rooms looked to be recently renovated. The decor was modern but when you got to the bathroom it's like they gave up. The sink/vanity looked new but the shower was disgusting! Mold, plaster falling from the walls. The walls and the door had visible dirt/hand prints. The room smelled musty, like someone had smoked in there recently. It was warm in the room so I checked the ac. It was set to 68 but never got below 73. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

mplstravel, Minneapolis, Minnesota 27/06/2020

While this hotel is on the older side, theyve done a good job of updating. The rooms seem fresh and are large. The full-service restaurant is a nice surprise. The front desk could use some help - maybe mention a few things like where the ice is, check out time, etc. and the grab and go breakfast is sad. How about a discount for the restaurant instead?

Bruce Kieffer, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Mplstravel. Hope to see you again soon.

"Feels like home "

mathproblems, Scottsdale, Arizona 09/06/2020

The Ramkota is an excellent choice when staying in Aberdeen. I would recommend the bi-level suites they have as they're more of a condo with an upstairs bedroom and living areas downstairs. They also have a fridge, extra closet space, bathroom for guests, and a back patio area excellent for a smoke break or shortcut to the pool area. The pool is more for kids. It has some play areas and obstacles for them to play with and a nice hot tub for the adults. The restaurant Minervas offers lunch and dinner and has always been great. It's really more about the location here if you are golfing, going to Wylie Park, or storybook land, the Ramkota is right next door. The Ramkota has always been special to me. I have a lot of fun, family, and friends Memories there. It's an excellent choice for a kids birthday party, family gathering, hunting or fishing trip to the area, or just a getaway. It's clean and the staff cares, it feels like home.

"Great!"

User 02/03/2020

From start to end, our service was wonderful! Staff even let us stay two hours past check out time as that's what was most convenient for us. Breakfast had many options, and the cleaning crew was very courteous even though we were the last room for them to clean.

Nice rooms. Nice bar & restaurant. Just be aware the chlorine level in the pool and hot tub is a bit excessive. Gets hard to breathe at times. Enough to make a person sick. The bar was nice. Breakfast is good.

Dear Olivejuice, Thank you for taking the time and writing a review. We are certainly happy you enjoyed our Bar and Restaurant. We like to think of it as the best in town. Thank you for your business and I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend.

"Little sleep"

3
User 04/01/2020

We were traveling and looking for a good night sleep. Around 1-2 am on several occasions people knocked on our door. Also, the mini fridge compressor had a high buzzing noise. Very difficult to sleep. The front desk said”sorry”. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you wanted a restful night. Over priced.

"Comfortable hotel with an excellent on-site restaurant"

4
User 16/12/2019

The room decor is very tasteful and I loved having a refrigerator and microwave in the room. There's a gas station within the same parking lot for easy access to extra snacks and beverages. The onsite restaurant has an excellent Happy Hour, with a wonderful dinner menu. I ate dinner in the restaurant 4 nights and all menu items I ordered were excellent! The breakfast is really good as well.

"A fine place to stay"

5
User 02/11/2019

If your looking for a place to stay that has clean rooms, friendly staff and managers and safe securities the ramkota Aberdeen is a fine place to stay in the Aberdeen area! It is easy to find and you wouldn't have to leave the hotel if you don't want to everything is right there. I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

"Nicely remodeled"

4
jenniferwestall72, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 28/10/2019

It was an older hotel but very updated! Loved having a Minerva's on-site, and a large pool area. The hotel layout is a little confusing trying to find the rooms, but our King Suite was very large and nicely remodeled. Very comfortable beds and climate control, and nice amenities like a living room area and kitchenette. I was pleasantly surprised that it was nicer than I was expecting for Aberdeen SD. :)

"Business stay in Aberdeen"

slugbugdac, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 17/10/2019

The rooms seemed to be updated, but other parts of the hotel could use a refresher. This was a business stay. The hotel was very accommodating to our needs. The pool was not utilized, but looked to be very nice.

"Old, tired hotel with horrible service in the dining room"

2
User 29/09/2019

Other than the breakfast which was excellent (and attended to very well by hotel staff) the Ramkota is marginal at best. Unlike a lot of Best Westerns, this one has not been renovated for a long time. Our room was clean but showed signs of aging. The mattress was just o.k. (too soft) and they had all these small pillows none of which were comfortable to sleep on. Towels were not great. The service in their restaurant was horrible. Terribly long waits. The last night we had an appetizer dinner at the bar which came out right away. This was not the case during lunch which took forever. One of my bigger complaints was them allowing an activity in their atrium meeting space which lasted until 11:00 the last night we were there. Our room and several others surrounded that area and it was noisy as heck. Not a great think when you have a 5:00 am flight out of Aberdeen the next morning. Several of our family members had other problems with their room including air conditioners that were blowing out hot air. The staff at the front desk didn't offer an adjustment on the room rate for these folks. This is a "pet friendly" hotel which means pets can sleep in any room. Our daughter's room smelled like wet dog. Why they don't have designated pet rooms is beyond me. The large banquet room where we attended a wedding reception was very dark and the lights kept flickering. I was not impressed. If you fly in to the Aberdeen airport, this motel is about as far away from it as you can get. Granted, Aberdeen is a small town, but the location is not ideal. In short, the Ramkota is not a very good facility. Best Western needs to invest some serious coins to update and modernize the facility.

"Wonderful stay"

bush5504, Box Elder, South Dakota 27/09/2019

I was able to check in on my cell phone and when I got to the front desk I just had to sign in and collect my room key. The room was so clean and the bed was very comfortable. Will use def. use again.

"Old Hotel."

2
roaminthaworld, Rapid City, South Dakota 26/09/2019

We stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel is old. It doesn't have an elevator so if you're on the second floor you'll be taking the stairs. The beds are nice. The bathrooms could use some updates, etc. The staff could also use a training on empathy. I was using the shower and the bath mat slipped and I fell, passed out for a bit, and woke back up on the bathroom floor. I informed the front desk of this and the lady said "ok, we'll send someone to clean up" and that was it. Nothing else was said or done. While the rates is nice, I'd recommend staying somewhere else for your money.

Upon arriving at the hotel we were concerned due to the poor condition of the exterior. However, upon entering we were pleasantly surprised at the condition of the inside. It was clean and tasteful on the inside but rundown and dated on the outside. The staff was very friendly and attentive but the heating/air conditioning system in the room was very noisy, making it hard to sleep.

"Clean rooms but very poor service and unappealing common areas."

2
ORUTraveler, Alexandria, Virginia 11/07/2019

On the good side: The rooms were clean and quiet, the beds were very comfortable, and the free breakfast was nice (although with a long line for hot food). On the "needs improvement" side: The common areas were not well-maintained, and the exterior door repeatedly was not locked overnight, contrary to the stated sign. The location of this hotel is next to a casino in a dark, unappealing area. Worst, the hotel had run out of shampoo, and the staff seemed unconcerned and did not offer any solutions, so I had to go to a Towneplace Marriott a few miles away, where the manager graciously gave me some (vastly better customer service at that property). The Best Western Ramkota should have gone out of its way to fix this instead of having the attitude that this was my problem to solve.

"Not accurate in listing"

1
User 05/07/2019

We had asked for a handicap room. Their definition of a handicap room was a room with bars. This room was NOT handicap accessible. Bringing someone with a wheelchair you are unable to adaquetely get to the toilet because of the sink being in the way and no room to position the wheelchair. Also handicapped rooms should have bars by the toilet, by the tub, and a minimum ADA rated toilet of 17 inches. When a few family members ask the front desk to clarify if this is handicap accessible, they should be asking WHY and not the standard answer. The roll in showers were a single queen. Not a great plan if someone needs to stay and assist the handicap person. Do they call for a roll-away bed??? I had enjoyed my stay here, but this put a HUGE downer on the stay. I also found out their definition of an indoor pool. It goes to 3.5 feet, unable for laps or swimming, but great for a kiddie pool. This room would not qualify for an ADA room.

Had a good experience. Room was clean and updated. Shower head wasn't the best, but nothing to really complain about. I didn't have cleaning services while there, but did ask the front desk for extra coffee pods, which they got me right away.

From check in to check out it was a great stay. The room and all of it's amenities was wonderful. The restaurant and lounge were an excellent experience with a very good staff. The check in and check out clerks were just great and were a pleasure to work with. I will be recommending to all to stay here and I will definitely be back. Just want to say thanks..

This motel has been added onto several times. The pool has been the same since the 80's and is due for a redo. The finish on the bottom of the pool is flaking off. The rooms were clean but the hallways and much of the motel feels dated. Breakfast was good, but just the normal continental breakfast waffle and egg thing in spite of the breakfast room being part of an actual restraunt.

692sharnamarie, Bemidji 01/04/2019

This hotel is not equipped to handle the amount of guests it can hold. Breakfast area is too small. Food was awful. Our danish was still frozen for example. The pool is too small. Multiple pool parties were held, but the hotel didn't limited the amount of guests at parties, so the pool area was actually unsafe. play equipment in the pool broke. The pool ran out of towels. The hotel ran out of rooms towels, too. They limited room towels two per room. I told the front desk upon checking out that I would leave a bad review and why. The front desk clerk just said, "okay."

"Best of all the Ramkotas!"

5
User 30/11/2018

Recently remodeled rooms, continental breakfast - YES! Cheezy scrambled, ham, biscuits/gravy, fruit yogurt, cereal, etc - above average. Banquet area, dining room, pool. Overall clean facility, friendly staff. Like most Ramkotas, they have added on again and again. Therefore the overall hotel floorplan is a little confusing, parking is available but unorganized. We didn't find an elevator to get grandpa up to the second floor.

Geoffrey V, Sioux Falls 24/11/2018

This hotel is nicely remodeled, the rooms a nice and overall the employees are friendly. However it's all in the details. Non of the rooms on the 1st floor have doors that close automatically. The doors are thin, when someone near me opened/closed their door it sounded like my door was being opened. The exterior door which should be locked, doesn't close with out some extra effort. I brought this to the attention of the front desk person on Thur (22NOV18), now on Sat, it is still not closing. Security of a property is one of my top concerns. The toilet in my room continuously runs, a simple fix of tightening the chain of the flusher would fix this. The people cleaning this room should have brought this to the attention of maintenance, how much money is running down the drain? There is a really nice Free breakfast provided. On Fri Sheryl, Tujuane and Heather were taking care of making sure everything was filled, and tables cleared. Very attentive with good choices of breakfast items. Melanie? (name obtained from restaurant staff as her name badge was always covered by her hair)(long reddish/brown hair with glasses) on Sat, seemed to be inconvenienced to be at work. She did not smile, seemed like it was an issue for her to go get coffee for me in the lobby. Nothing more than "there you go" when she returned with it after about 10 min, no eye contact, no smile, no enjoy your coffee. Again it's more than just nicely remodeled halls and rooms, it's the little things that make or not make your hotel a nice place to stay. One final tip for those that don't like to do stairs, I did not see an elevator. If stairs might be an issue for you make sure to get a room on the first floor.

"Really geart folks at breakfast and front desk in the morning!"

4
User 23/11/2018

The morning staff in the breakfast area were very accommodating. I have small children and they were looking for a more child like breakfast cereal. The staff ladies were attentive and got some out of the back room. It really did make breakfast out much more pleasant! Front desk was accommodating for a late check out to allow kids more pool time. The room and beds were average. The shower/tub needs some repairs but clean. Main down side was one of finding dog fical matter in a stair way.

"Great Hotel"

hdurband, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 14/11/2018

What a great 2 day stay. The hotel is up to date, great decor, and very clean. The rooms are fantastic. I had a huge kingsize bed that was so comfortable with a sea of pillows that were so soft! Extremely spacious rooms. The breakfast buffet has so many options, and Heather and Tujuane were so helpful and grateful for us choosing the hotel! They even took away our plates after finishing, what great customer service! The Minerva's restaurant is attached and the food is so amazing! The service was excellent. Didn't leave the hotel to eat which was such a great feature! Housekeeping to the room was great, even wrote a note to say have a great stay, such a personal touch. My only complaint was the hotel did not have an elevator and I was located on the second floor which is hard with heavy luggage. Plus my door was a bit hard to get into. The key pad would turn green but I had to lift the door handle up to unlock. Just cumbersome. Overall, a great stay for a business trip and I would definitely come back. Thank you for your hospitality!

"Wedding guest"

User 10/11/2018

We booked this hotel with 2 families to attend a wedding of a relative whose reception was at the hotel. We arrived at 1 thinking maybe they would have one of the rooms ready. Check-in is at 3. Since the rooms weren't ready, we took the kids to the pool and ordered a pizza from Minerva's. At 3 the rooms still weren't ready. They weren't ready at 3:30 or 3:45. Since the wedding was at 4, we missed it. I was very disappointed that the accommodations weren't available for us to change for the wedding. Will probably look elsewhere next time I come to town.

I have been staying at the ramkota motel Aberdeen sd for pheasant hunting for 34 yrs in a row. I do stay at other ramkotas in suixfalls and pier sd on summer vacations and have had very satisfactory stays. If you are visiting the Aberdeen area this is the place to stay. Randy, John, are general managers and Angela the desk manager and her staff are very professional and friendly people. They will accommodate any and all guests that stay there. Any issues are taken care of immediately to your satisfaction. Angela has my reservations and check in ready for me to move in with no hassles, so I can start hunting the minute I get there. This is very important to me after driving 500 miles for 10 hrs. Beth and all of the desk clerks are very helpful and friendly. All of the amenities are up and usable. The rooms are clean and maid service are outstanding. The continental breakfast manager and the breakfast itself are second to none! If your wondering where to stay on a trip for any reason from vacation to business this is the place. Dean Pelkey 34 yr and counting guest of ramkota Aberdeen. I will not stay anywhere else!

"Quick Stay"

User 08/11/2018

Great rooms. Showers were great. Continental breakfast was better than we are used to eating by far. Very fair priced overall. Only needed a place to rest a few hours and take a hot shower as we were here for a cattle sale. A few of the hunter guests were a little rude, but ignore it and go on. It far exceeded our needs.

The rooms were great. The breakfast in thr morning was amazingly spoiling. Sheryl the c/b manager was awesome. She made sure everything was full or filled at all times tables were wiped down or if the kids asked for rag to wipe their own tables she was so grateful to be of help we all needed. Pool was good and so was the hot tub. Staff was very respectful too. My only complaint was the music in the conference room was loud enough for it to shake the walls and when you a deaf child with you it makes it hard to get them to sleep

"Much Better Than Expected"

FLgirl222, Naples, Florida 20/10/2018

Stayed here for a weekend while attending a wedding in Aberdeen. After reading the reviews I was a little nervous about our accommodations. When we arrived I was very pleased that our room was nice, clean, coffee in the lobby in the morning and a nice restaurant/bar off the lobby. Staff was pleasant and efficient. Gym was a bit of a joke but only had one morning to workout. For a weekend it was just perfect. We enjoyed our weekend and couldn't have asked for more while in Aberdeen.

4
Benzboy06, Fort Myers, Florida 14/10/2018

It has been years since I stayed in a Best Western and I was not happy with my last stay, so I was a little nervous; however, it was far beyond my expectations. The lobby was nice and modern, staff was extremely friendly and the room was up-to-date, clean, and comfy. There is also a wonderful restaurant attached to the hotel that has a full bar. In the morning you get complimentary Continental breakfast. The manager welcomed me to the area and showed me the various pastries, hot food, etc. Because of my dietary restrictions, she pointed out that they had wheat bread and almond milk while apologizing for the lack of food for me. I decided to eat a piece of toast, fruit and almond milk which was plenty. The only negative that I could find and the reason for a 4 instead of 5 star is the lack of an elevator. I traveled with a very large suitcase and had to lug it up 2 flights of stairs and then back down to check-out. Again, that is the only negative.

The facility has been remodeled and is very nice. Rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated. The catering left a little to be desired with timing of getting the food out and ran out of food for the luncheon. Staff seemed friendly. I'd have no problem staying at this Ramkota again.

Staff checking in male. Rude never smiled or try to welcome us. When we made reservation we asked for a handycap room. Shower chair didn't fit at had to sit sidewise. Asked for a comfy chair not just the straight back chair. Finally he bought one it was ok but why not in the room anyway. The doors to entry heavy to open when my family trying to get me in in a wheelchair. Check out no thank you come again travel safe. The one cleaning staff talked to us and was very friendly. Although would of been nice to have our vacuum. We got clean towels etc. And also have our sheets changed as we stayed for 4 nights. Will never stay with ramkota in abd again. We stayed 9-16 to 9-20. In room 103. We were quoted 93.00 a night. I believe it was a becca or Becky. My sister Karen Bunsness Me. Karel Kamps

I was passing through South Dakota for work. I had originally booked a night for the Holiday Inn there in Aberdeen. The holiday Inn ended up having technical difficulties and they weren't able to check customers in. I booked a room through Best Western last minute. Upon my arrival I was very surprised at the size of the room and clean environment. What really won me over was the Manager Sheryl. She was very nice and willing to flex for her customers. Thank you Sheryl.

We got a last minute reservation for two nights when other plans fell through - and that turned out to be fortuitous. The room we got was very well designed, spacious, and had everything we needed. The breakfasts were amongst the very best we've had at a hotel with more options than usual and higher quality items. It's hard to believe any other hotel in Aberdeen could possibly be better! Well done, Best Western!

Nice convenient place to stay. Good restaurant, good breakfast. Rooms clean. Nice pool area. The nice lounge area. Quick drive to all amenities. Staff friendly, bar area nice. Beds comfortable and rooms spacious.

"Fantastic customer service at the breakfast buffett!"

4
User 14/08/2018

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. My grandchildren were disappointed one morning when they did not see sausages, like the previous morning at the breakfast buffet. The manager, Sheryl, overheard my little one say he didn't want ham, he wanted sausage...she promptly told him to wait just a moment, she went off to have some made for him and brought them out in just a few minutes. Good service or what!!! I'm impressed with the courtesy and willingness to go the extra "mile" for the customer. Thank you so much, Sheryl!

"Great breakfast service"

5
meyertodd, Austin, Texas 12/08/2018

The service at breakfast was terrific. The staff was super friendly and really on the ball with the food. The food was good too. The breakfast was an unexpected highlight of our stay at the Ramkota hotel. All of the staff was friendly and the room was nice also. We would stay here again.

"Excellent service"

Johnkayobe, London, United Kingdom 10/08/2018

The hotel staff, especially front desk and restaurant/breakfast buffet staff, delivered excellent service during our 2 day stay. We came from the U.K. to enrol our son at a local college and everyone was so welcoming and helpful. The staff organised lifts to the local big supermarket so we could buy the necessary student supplies and Sheryl/Christian and Jenna from the breakfast buffet restaurant staff made us feel right at home and gave helpful advice. Thank you.

"Wonderful experience"

StellaRose2016, Des Moines, Washington 07/08/2018

The hotel surpassed my expectations. Extremely clean, cool fun pool for the kids, super friendly and helpful staff. The staff was a refreshing pleasant group that was happy to answer questions and made great suggestions on activities near the hotel. I would definitely recommend, great place to stay!!!!!!!!!

"Modern rooms, but the building itself...not so much"

4
Heather P, Grand Forks, North Dakota 06/08/2018

Although our guest room was modern and fresh looking, the building itself, including the pool area and the exterior, seem quite dated. Our (7 year old) child did LOVE the pool, though, so that was what mattered. Check in and check out staff were only so-so. The staff that were working the (very good!) free breakfast, though, were just GREAT and went above and beyond to be friendly. Price was fair. Room was clean. Location is VERY handy for Storybook Land. Not the hotel's fault, but BOTH nights of sleep were interrupted by LOUD guests in the hallways. Overall, a fun weekend getaway and we were satisfied (if not OVERLY so) with the hotel we chose.

"Great stay"

tonyo235, Bridgeport, Texas 03/08/2018

I must say the hotel has a great smell from the moment we walked in the door and honestly it smelled like someone was backing blueberry muffins. Very clean all through the hotel. The staff was very hospitable. Jena visited with us at breakfast and was very pleasant to talk to. Even the cook came out for something and was asking us how we were. We had dinner at the restaurant and it too was nice.

Sheryl the c/b manager during breakfast was amazing. They served us an early breakfast which really helps us on our early morning days. The hotel is clean and beds are comfortable, a/c blows cold, staff is friendly and their pool is convenient. It's been a wonderful stay thus far.

"Comfortable beds, clean room, security issues."

3
User 30/07/2018

Aside from a few repairs in the room, and the lack of security on the guest entrances from the parking lot, it was a decent stay. We had comfortable beds, and a clean room, which is the main reason we stay at Ramkota hotels.

"Class reunion"

5
User 30/07/2018

We went to Aberdeen, SD for my wife's 45th class reunion and stayed at the Ramkota hotel. It was very clean and the staff was very friendly. The room was kept in great shape and even included a tooth brush and tooth paste.

"Clean, great food, awesome pool for kids"

User 29/07/2018

Clean rooms, amazing breakfast, and friendly staff. Jenna and the manager at the breakfast bar were super nice and worked really hard. Pool has Lilly pads, frog slide, and frog water sprayer. Hot tub nice size. Will stay again for sure.

"I wasn't invited to the party!"

2
rsstarkey63, Jamestown 25/07/2018

The only good thing about this Motel was the clean room and a very nice breakfast waitress. I requested a handicap room and my room was on the second floor. that would have been fine if there was an elevator. But NO. There was a party in my hallway until about 2 am. I kept thinking someone would quiet them down, But again. No. Excited about Breakfast. No the juice smelt and tasted like dirty feet. The waitress tried to help but very rude women that was obviously her superior was not having it. First she said I brushed my teeth and that's why the juice was bad. Ten she just said there is nothing wrong with it and left. The poor waitress was embarrassed and apologized. I tipped her and thanked her for her help. She should be the one in charge!

User 20/07/2018

I'm here on a 10 day training trip for my job and let me tell you, this has been the most stress-free week I've had in years! SOOOOO relaxing! The girls at the front desk are wonderful and the room is just gorgeous! Beautiful shades of grey, dark wood furniture, cool, contemporary table lamps with awesome little outlets for your electronics built into the base of the lamp! Nifty!! There's a small coffee maker, a big flat screen TV, a little fridge and microwave and even a little binder with information about local attractions. There's a free breakfast buffet and were not talking just milk and cereal. Sheryl, the breakfast goddess gets up at the crack of dawn and manages to have quite a spread ready at 6 am! Eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, 4 kinds of fruit juices, coffee, teas, even yogurt, a French toast bar with dozens of topping choices. Sheryl herself is amazing! She's very warm and friendly and greets guests as if they're family! After preparing all that food, if have been too tired to even breathe, but Sheryl stays attentive to the guests while keeping the area clean and well stocked too. My room was cleaned and linens freshened daily and after a long day at work it's nice to come back to a fresh, clean room! My housekeeper, Alci, even wrote me a little note to let me know she is here to take care of anything I might need during my stay. She even left a sweet compliment on a drawing I was working on. I feel so pampered! The staff here are amazing and they treat me like a rock star! Very sweet, attentive and friendly! There's an indoor pool and hot tub that's open till 10pm and the families and kids staying here seemed to be having a wonderful time swimming at night! Very neat. The smell of chlorine is a bit strong, but that's to be expected with indoor heated pools. Didn't seem to bother the dozens of kids playing in the pool and just having a ball! It was so cute to watch. I'd highly recommend this hotel if you're ever in Aberdeen, SD. The rooms are around $100 a night I think. My company paid for my stay, but even if I'd had to pay, I'd say it's worth every penny! I'm having a wonderful stay! Here's a drawing I did after breakfast. Snapped a quick photo of my room on the way out the door to work.. When I got back, the bed was made for me and the room was immaculate!

"Great Place to stay"

User 08/07/2018

We come to Aberdeen every couple of years to visit family and we stay at the Ramkota every time. We just spent 7 days here and I was pleased once again. The staff is fantastic, the rooms are large and comfortable, there's a great pool for the kids that you can see from the bar and the breakfast is very good. The thing that keeps us coming back to this hotel every time is the service. It is top notch at every level. The wonderful ladies who manage breakfast know what you need before you even ask. They keep the line moving and the area super clean. They are SO patient with everyone who comes in, just like we are a guest in their home. The bar tender remember us when we went back and remembered where we are from. He was very accommodating making some wacky NA drink my daughter wanted to try and was consistently coming back to check on us while we watched the game on the many TVs they have in there. The front counter folks always greeted us with a smile and promptly took care of our needs. The cleaning staff were always super friendly and got us anything we asked for. I hope the managers of the hotel recognize the wonderful work of the fantastic staff that delivers excellent customer care. It is truly the people who make this place our first choice when we come to Aberdeen.

Good hotel but $165 is a little to much. Good breakfast but the space was very small where you had to get your food.it was very busy in there. I don't like it that the vanity is not in the bathroom.good king size bed. Pool looked nice.

John N, Rapid City, South Dakota 01/07/2018

I have stayed here before. I am so happy with this hotel. The front desk staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms are big and clean and the fridge gets your drinks chilled fast. This would be a five star hotel review but I wasn't impressed with the WiFi. It was dreadfully slow in the rooms and even switching to the bar WiFi didn't speed things up as I moved around the hotel. WiFi = D. Hotel = B.

"Not the spot for a wedding or reception!!! But, the sleeping rooms are nice!?!?"

2
SJVollmer, Fargo 29/06/2018

The rooms are very clean, the housekeeping and Minerva's staff (the attached restaurant - shout out to Krystal) is wonderful but their sales & catering department needs some team building. My brother and sister-in-law's wedding and reception was at this hotel and what a fiasco! I booked 3 rooms for my brother's wedding, asked they be close together, near the reception if possible. I check in and 2 rooms were right next to each other and the other room was in an entirely different wing! I should have taken this as a sign...The rehearsal and groom's dinner was held in the same room as the wedding would be the next day - except the floor was never cleaned from the night before, so we had to ask 2 times for someone to come in - we waited an hour between each ask. EXTREMELY last minute everything the day of the wedding - flowers, decorations for both the wedding and reception hall, audio in the courtyard, punch refills, and other items. - the hotel decorator (they hired her for $5,000!!) created some unnecessary headaches for my family. Flowers were 1.5 hours late, the wedding was finished being decorated 1.5 hours before the wedding - so pictures were finished in the wedding space very last minute, and we helped light the candles in the reception hall so the photographer could get pictures of the space before the wedding started! For the gift opening on Sunday, we were to be in the Courtyard, but our juice and cupcakes were in Dakota A. It took 30 minutes to find out which room we were in!!! No one from the hotel could confirm where we should be. Then catering brought us food for another party that was being held in another room...twice during the gift opening... In the end, my brother and sister-in-law had a wonderful time despite it all because we helped put the fires out before they saw them. It was a fiasco, and I would never recommend anyone use the Best Western for a wedding.

"Not a happy business traveler"

2
reynoldstina37, Big Lake, Minnesota 19/05/2018

I'm traveling for business, that question should've been asked and accommodated at the time of reservation. The pool is open until 11pm on the weekend. I was placed in a poolside room on 2nd floor. I have to be up early (5am) and the other hotel guests don't leave the pool until 11:30. Doesn't leave much room for sleep, changing rooms wasn't an option, I asked. There's also no elevator, so to have a room on second floor with baggage, etc was also not very accommodating and my bags were heavy. I'm only 5'5” and weigh about 105-110, my baggage weighs more than I do. It was not desirable to lug them up 2 flights of stairs and down the hall only to have to walk back down the 2nd floor hall the other way just to get to my room. I had to split it up into a couple trips. The printer/copier doesn't link up or work and I'm here on business, there was no help or apologies or offer to try and get it working, just a shrug of the shoulder with an “I don't know” comment. It's common knowledge when a guest leaves items on the bed, the cleaning staff is not to touch their items or move them, to make or change the bedding. This was not followed until I left a note for the cleaning staff asking them to please not touch my bed or anything on them. The restaurant inside the hotel is very good, average priced and very courteous staff. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel for future business or personal stays based on the price of the room and the lack of accommodation in personal service being a priority. I would recommend the restaurant and the breakfast along with that staff.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at BE Ramkota. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was very good, many choices, and the staff was great!Manager, Sheryl made a point of greeting each of us warmly, as did Associates, Paula and Sharla. Thank you for a wonderful stay and Continental breakfast.

lnelson5, Garner, Iowa 18/04/2018

We had a great experience at the Ramkota Hotel. The room were very nice and we had super comfy beds. The staff was super nice and very helpful. We were stranded because of the weather and the front desk staff was very helpful in extending our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Good Motel"

User 13/04/2018

I did like this motel, I have stayed there a couple different times. Everything worked fine, the bed was comfortable. Staff was very friendly. I liked having an outside and inside door in the room.. I was happy with everything except the breakfast. Sausage over cooked, Bagels very very stale, Biscuits and gravy, good flavor, but only warm.

"GREAT PLACE TO SLAY WHEN ON THE ROAD FOR WORK"

5
User 15/03/2018

Great place to stay. Nice clean room with large tv's. Also nice to have a hotel that have great food and drinks. Then i can walk back to my room and not have to drink and drive. Room are clean. so rooms have a outside door. I like this to be to get work items from my truck and not have to go down long hallways.

"Super accommodating during a state tournament"

4
alisonpB7932AH, Alexandria, South Dakota 10/03/2018

Hotel staff was super accommodating during our weekend here for a state tournament. Breakfast was great, rooms were clean and near our students, friendly staff. Maintenance helped out very quickly and kindly when one of our students accidentally locked herself in her bathroom. Great weekend.

"Pool overrun with kid parties "

1
crjacobs, Sioux Falls 04/03/2018

Nicely renovated. Our suite Room #236 was quiet and comfortable. The spa in the bathroom was outdated but functional. I was very unhappy with the fact that the pool was unavailable to my family as it was overrun with kids. I asked the front desk if the kids were guests of the hotel and she said “probably not” as there were “multiple parties”. Total mayhem! Wild kids, inattentive parents, dozens of poolside tables organized into camps and Doritos everywhere. The hotel pool is not a community center and daycare. I understand the economics of a small town and would suggest that if this must be done to generate revenue that a time be set aside for adult swim only like 8-10 pm or 9 to close.

"Huge room, facility needs some updating"

3
Lisa S, Minneapolis, Minnesota 26/02/2018

We paid for the upgraded, larger king sized bedroom. It was one of the largest rooms I've seen in a while which was very nice. The mini fridge in our room was a very nice size. Bed was comfortable. We are not high maintenance people and don't expect luxury accommodations for this rate but gave this 3 stars for the following: Management should consider eliminating the very outdated (1980's?), older deep jet tub and replace with even a regular tub. In order to take a shower you need to step down into a deep jet tub. The water pressure was very weak and the water temperature was luke warm then quickly turned to cold. Not sure if they don't have continuous heated water or not. We overheard another guest talking to hotel management about the same thing. We were unable to control the temperature of the room (older model unit). We switched to air conditioning because lowering the thermostat didn't work. And it kicked back into heat. The unit looked like it could use a little maintenance. The breakfast bar is very small for a hotel this size and located in an enclosed area making it difficult for people to get through, including the staff member trying to refill the food. Hotel management may want to consider moving the breakfast area into part of the restaurant side for breakfast? We checked out at 11, which is checkout time and there wasn't anyone at the front desk. Waited for about a minute before leaving keys on the desk. When we checked in the staff was pretty friendly but in general when we spoke with the staff over the weekend, they looked unhappy and not very pleasant.

"Not a fitness persons place"

3
User 25/02/2018

We are here for a state sporting event. Accommodations are updated clean and stylish. Staff at front check in need to smile more. Fitness room is AWFUL! If you are a fitness fanatic this is NOT the place for you.....3 out of the 5 pieces of equipment in the very small fitness room are out of order....we were here a month ago and they were out of order then too! Boo on the fitness room! Everything else is average.

"Decent Hotel"

3
keenan z, Fargo, North Dakota 31/01/2018

Hotel was average, which is not bad thing. Hotel rooms were clean and laid out like a typical hotel room. Decent room inside. Beds were comfy which is basically the most important part to a hotel stay. I was there for a conference. There were multiple conference rooms available. Hotel had a decent looking pool that I assume kids would love to swim in. Only complaint I have was the food. I am not sure if the food was prepared from the hotel or from the hippy organic conference I was at. Breakfast was mediocre at best. It was free so hard to complain. There was not a big selection as there is in most other hotels. Hot breakfast included premade pancakes, breakfast sausage patty, and burned egg circles that reminded me of thin burned egg pucks. There was no option to make your own waffle bar which I thought was impossible for a modern day hotel. Either way I would stay here again. (I would rate the hotel at 3.5 if it were an option)

"Great place"

Jacquelyn G, Austin, United States 22/01/2018

The attached restaurant makes this the best place in the area to stop. Have the walleye . Families can enjoy a great pool area. But the restaurant is the real draw for long distance travelers. Healthy or not, they have it!

"Great hotel "

4
John N, Rapid City, South Dakota 18/01/2018

What a great place to stay. I was in town for a work trip and booked a room here. My room was clean and I had plenty of linens. Even a note hand written by the cleaning staff. I was so surprised the next morning that even though the hotel has a restaurant, there was a free continental breakfast. It was well stocked and the morning staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even allowed me to fill my small cooler with ice out of the ice machine right in the bar area. Very nice place to stay. I'll be back.

Upkeep poor toilet over flowing in conference center and in room very nasty in general! water pitchers never refilled on tables At 4 hour event. hotel restaurant awful service and they weren't that busy.ran out of hot water taking shower and low water pressure. Used upstairs toilet and cover came off downstairs vent and sewage came out Very nasty

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear KKP, I was disappointed to receive your comments, perhaps more so as we had been emailing back and forth yesterday in an effort to determine what caused the event you described in your room. As we discussed we were unable to duplicate the situation you described and our plumber and engineer remain perplexed. I was additionally saddened because in our earlier communications any concerns regarding our restaurant or catering services were not relayed. I will most certainly discuss these items with our team. The type of experience you described is unacceptable in any facility and so very different from what we strive for and what our guests so often receive. We will of course continue to try to determine what occurred and how we can rectify it and will redouble our efforts to ensure no guest has a similar issue. We are deeply saddened that your stay wasn't what we strive for with all our valued guests and are sorry to hear you won't be staying with us on future visits. We sincerely hope that any future travel, wherever it may be, is exceptional! Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

"Old Hotel, Nice Update"

3
sportsinfoguy, Sioux Falls, SD 09/12/2017

This is a really old hotel that has had substantial updates. This fixes some problems, but others clearly remain. The room looked beautiful and it was clean and comfortable. It was a little short on electrical plugs, but worked for us because we only had two people in the room. If it was the whole family we would have struggled. The parts that it doesn't fix are the fact that you could hear everything that was going on in the hallway and in the stairwell next to our room. I don't mean you could tell people were there I mean you join in their conversations. Because the stairs were steel they were also very loud. They have done what they could, but the problems will be there as long as the building. This issue also exists in other Ramkota properties across South Dakota. I also have a problem with a hotel (especially at this level) that is still providing TV service in which most of the channels are not in HD. I go into much lesser hotels on a regular basis in which all the channels are HD. It is 2017 after all. The breakfast hours were a little short. We were shocked that the free breakfast ends at 9 a.m. even on weekends. The food was about what you should expect, but when they ran out of pancakes at 20 minutes to closing the hostess didn't really want to get anymore even though most of our team still was coming through. She did get french toast and was very kind about it. The breakfast food area is very small and not set up well but there is lots of seating as they use the restaurant. We spend a lot of nights in a hotel during the year and there is nothing terrible here, but it is just average for the price point.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Sportsinfoguy, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We were pleased you seem to very much enjoy our updates and our guest service. It is clear that noise was an issue during your stay. When we remodeled we did update insulation and sound proofing where we had access and in future years will be working to replace guest room doors - especially in adjoining rooms- which may have contributed to the noise you mentioned. As it relates to our cable television; our televisions are fully HD enabled. Unfortunately the number of HD channels available to us is controlled by our provider not necessarily the equipment we installed. We will continue to work with our provider to improve this for you, and all our guests. Our Complimentary Continental Breakfast has been well received and the hours of operation do end somewhat earlier than other hotels. This was done by design to ensure that our on-site restaurant, which many Best Western's do not offer, can open for lunch service by 10:30 AM. We have worked hard to balance the many interests of each of our clients whether, sports, leisure, business, meeting or convention and will continue to work even harder to meet the challenges which may remain head-on! We are grateful for your patronage and your feedback and hope you continue to visit and see these improvements first hand as they happen! Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

"Visit home"

Susan N, North Saint Paul, Minnesota 06/12/2017

I born and raised in South Dakota. I picked this hotel because it was closer to my home town and family I was visiting. This hotel has been there for as long as I remember. The new remodel is awesome! I had a 4 day stay. Every single staff member I dealt with was friendly and helpful. It's very clean and the rate was great! Their free breakfast was great but the fine dining experience at Minerva's was excellent (with a very good wine list)! I will DEFINATELY choose Ramkota for my next visit.

Room was very clean, & bed was great!. Housekeeping was attentive. Breakfast was average. Only issue was a sunken, jetted tub that was difficult to get in & out of when taking a shower. Quiet, private location. Could park car in front of door to room for convenient unloading and loading. Have stayed here twice this year. Great restaurant, "Minervas", in same building.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Douglas M, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We're so very grateful for your continued patronage! We are glad that everything met or exceeded your expectations. The sunken jetted tubs are quite popular with some guests and less so with others. We have several suites with this option and in 2018 hope to have others with full walk-in showers which may be more suitable for other guests. We thank you for your feedback and look forward to seeing you again very soon! Randy Grismer General Manager

My wife and I stayed at the Ramkota Hotel and were very pleased . The room was recently redone and very clean. This is a pet friendly hotel which is great as we travel with two dogs. There is a restaurant and lounge attached to the hotel.

"VERY NICE, BUT NOW WORTH THE PRICE"

4
531greggh, Grand Island 07/11/2017

For the price, I would think that everything would be top-notch. It was nice, but definitely not worth the price. I stayed in a facility the night before that was just over half the price and the room, bed, and shower were much nicer at the less expensive facility. The plus they had at BW was that they had a restaurant and lounge. However, that is another expense and it doesn't need to be added into my cost for the room.

"Nice property, great staff. Really....great staff."

We stay here every year for late October pheasant hunting. Hotel remodel is nice. Although suite bathrooms still have the same ole whirlpool tubs and other fixtures. Beds are really comfortable. Pet friendly and then some. Housekeeping is very good. Thank you Housekeeping! Very much miss Minerva's breakfast. While the free self-serve breakfast is ok, it's barely ok. Please bring Minerva's breakfast back!

I stay at he Ramkota each year during the pheasant hunting season and I'm completely satisfied with their service. They know how tom take care of the hunters and provide service above and beyond. Their attention to the needs of the hunters is outstanding and encompasses all aspects of the hunt to include the provision of gun cleaning supplies.

raymerjoann, Castle Rock, Colorado 24/10/2017

Overall this was a super friendly place to stay. The service and the food were both very good. Decor had been updated. We had requested 2 queens and then were notified that they were all on the second floor and that there was not an elevator. We did not want a king for this visit . They did end up offering to help us with our gear.

"Brand new look!"

madetoworship68, Crooks, South Dakota 24/10/2017

The Ramkota has really taken steps to improve the quality of their rooms. The tired old decor has been replaced with beautiful up to date decor. The restaurant on site is 4 star and their are special rates for parents of children at the Northern State University.

This hotel was conveniently located just of highway 281. First impressions were very good. The art on the walls is very nice.. had a tasty supper in the lounge and a nice breakfast spread the next morning. Got a good rate and a super nice appointed ground level motel style room on the far side of the building. During the course of the evening and night how ever ,the reefer trucks that were parked around the corner in parking lot started up their engines ever hour for about 10 minutes. That in it self is fine ,they have to do that, but we were not informed about the trucks and would have chosen a room on the other side of the building. There for i can not give 5 stars.

Overall we had a great stay. Had some trouble with our door handle but we were informed about that when we checked in. The beds were very comfortable. We were attending a wedding which made this stay very convenient because it was where the reception was held at.

Best Western Ramkota was the location of our niece's wedding. The reception in the ballroom was wonderful and the convenience to very comfortable rooms for the weekend made for a perfect stay. The Ramkota offers convenience and many extras that made for a relaxing weekend.

Travel bag and phone chargers ruined . Due to water leak under sink. Promised to replace . One month later still not done. Randy the manager ignores emails from me and my daughter. This is just rotten

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear georgey259, We are deeply saddened that the men's travel bag you had got wet during your stay. The damage appeared to have been caused by a sink drain that looked to have been bumped loose just above where the bag had been placed. I was of course disheartened to receive your review as we had visited several times during your stay and have continued to visit since your departure. We were happy to provide you two entirely new travel bags and some men's amenity items prior to your departure to replace the one that was wet. I realize that they most certainly were not identical to the bag which had gotten wet but we hoped that one of the two provided would serve the need until you arrived safely home. I was surprised to receive your email indicating the bag was still wet two weeks after your departure. I was also shocked to learn that several e-mails I sent seemed to have failed to reach you but I am exceptionally pleased that since your departure we have found a near identical replacement for $80 which you identified and we are happy that when you arrive at home we'll be able to ship it directly to you. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

We had a lovely stay at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel. The free continental breakfast was amazing. I cannot thank Stephanie H. and Paula H. enough for making sure that breakfast was ready each morning. Each of them greeted each guest. Every item was stocked well and kept that way. I never had to wait for food. The breakfast area was kept neat and tidy and CLEAN! Thank you ladies so much for contributing to my enjoying stay. You are both OUTSTANDING employees. I commend you for all your efforts which were not only noticed, but appreciated. Thanks, Jane B.

"Great choice for families with young children"

4
SRJMod, Minneapolis 28/08/2017

We had a very nice stay at the Ramkota, which is conveniently located close to Storybook Land and Twist Cone (get the Italian ice swirled with vanilla). The Ramkota's staff is very friendly, and the pool is great for kids. (It's no indoor water park, but it's warm and has a frog slide and floating lilypads that our young kids loved). The FREE breakfast buffet is top-notch and includes eggs and meat (ham when we were there). There also seems to be free coffee everywhere, so you can stay well caffeinated to keep up with the kids! We did not eat at the restaurant/bar, but it seemed to be quite popular. We did catch happy hour and noted that the beer selection was decent (Odell's IPA and a local Amber). The only negative was that our main floor room faced the parking lot, and we could hear people getting in and out of their cars. (Next time we are booking a poolside room.) But add in the free wi-fi and a computer you can use if you need to do some quick work, and it all adds up to a very nice hotel. We'll be staying there again.

"Overall nice hotel"

Lynn B A, Coon Rapids, Minnesota 19/08/2017

Our family stayed here for 2 nights. We were moving our son in to his dorm at Northern State University so we got a discounted rate. Over all it's a nice hotel but still needs some work. As one other reviewer stated about the outside doors being dirty..that is very true. The bathroom needs some more work: the wall needs repair in 2 places and the caulk around the tub needs replacing. Of all of the BW's we've stayed at, the bathroom was much smaller in size than the newer ones (not a full size sink area and hard to move around). One other thing I missed was not having any kind of potato to go with the eggs for breakfast. Breakfast line was long and out the door. Should expand the hours from 6-9 to 6-10. Kuddos to the 2 gals working in the breakfast area. They did an awesome job of keeping the food stocked, tables clean and removing the garbage and all with a smile on their faces. Would definitely stay there again.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Lynn B A Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. We very much appreciate your high marks and kind words. We know that the remodeling of the hotel is inconvenient and the exterior work has been quite extensive. We are pleased to let you know that the major portions of our remodeling are complete and we are now working on final touches and repairs to those areas of the building where we have noticed challenges in installation. Our complimentary Breakfast has been well received since it's addition last year. We regret the hours are limited as we also use this space to accommodate our valued guests for our standard lunch and dinner service in the restaurant and bar. Our team is always happy to be of assistance and I'm so very glad you had the chance to visit with several of them during your stay. We look forward to your safe and timely return!

D8106WJmichellec, Aberdeen, United States 11/08/2017

The weekend we came they were resurfacing the parking lot. Right outside our window on SATURDAY morning at 630 AM they were beeping and it was so loud it woke us and our toddler up. Also, they blew a bunch of dirt all over my vehicle. It was coated in filth. Why not do this a weekday when there is less people here?? Or at least communicate we would not be able to park near our room and there would be extra noise in that area. Breakfast was crowded, ran out of food both mornings and some food was still frozen. Not impressed. I would have like to enjoy my sleep and my stay. One good thing is they have nice pillows.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear D8106WJmichellec, Thank-you for taking the time to write a review, I'm so terribly sorry that our remodeling caused you as much inconvenience as it di. We do work very hard to coordinate the remodeling to work around reservations, groups, events, weather etc., unfortunately there is rarely a time where we aren't busy - including most weekdays. We did post notice at the desk and sent out messages trying to reach most of our guests, so I apologize in earnest that our attempts to communicate our remodeling plans did not reach you. I am pleased to let you know that the parking lot remodeling is completed and by the end of August all our updates in this year's remodeling will be done (both inside and out) We will have minor painting, touch ups etc. which will continue into September but none of which we expect to cause any significant inconvenience. We will of course follow up with our breakfast team regarding your food quality experience to see what may have occurred that caused our complimentary deluxe continental breakfast to be less than what we hoped it would be. We hope that you will have occasion to visit us when our updates are completed so you may fully enjoy the hotel. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

The help was great! The room was very well put together. The hot water was luke warm for showering and the bed was harder than what I am use to, but was able to get a full night sleep. The lounge area was fabulous and the staff were more than helpful. The breakfast was good, nothing real special, but I wasn't hungry during the morning. Overall I give it an 8 our of 10

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Brady P, Thank-you so very much for taking the time to write a review. We're glad it appears your stay overall was "great" and it looks like our teams service exceeded your expectations. I was a bit dismayed your shower was not has hot as our guests typically find it so we'll look to see what may have caused that instance. We have installed many new features and will be continuing some minor improvements room to room over the next year so if you have additional thoughts or insights we're always happy to listen. We stayed here for one night while attending a wedding in the area. The lobby is immaculate, but the overall structure, hallways and shower in the bathroom could use some upgrades. Continental breakfast inside Minerva's was just ok. I've had better continental breakfasts. The beds and room overall were really, really nice. I would recommend a non-poolside room if you won't use it.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear JamieW2424, Thank-you so very much for taking the time to write a review. We're so very glad you found the lobby was immaculate and wanted to let you know that while the majority of the major remodeling is concluding we are continuing enhancements room to room including shower heads, decorative tile around our tub surrounds and some further upgrades to our suites. While these will be done on a far more limited scale we wanted to convey our deepest appreciation for your feedback and your patronage! We look forward to your safe and timely return. "Don't stay at Kamkota BW"

garysD5627HA, Ramsey, Minnesota 16/07/2017

Wish we had stayed across the street. The indoor pool is s kiddieland with swim diapers. Our room was dusty, dirty, no toilet paper holder, air conditioner vents were dirty, doors were full of dirty hand prints. No offer to upgrade our room. We put towels on the floor so we could walk around and checked out at 5:30am. We've stayed at 6 other BW on this trip. They were amazing. Skip this one,

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear GarysD5627HA, I want to sincerely apologize for what appears to have been a very uncomfortable stay. I must confess some dismay at your review as you mention you wish you would have stayed across the street, however In our case there is no hotel across the street, the nearest open hotel is several miles from our location. It is true that our facility has an indoor water play land IDEAL for children of all ages and we don't keep anyone from swimming if they have appropriate swimwear, including small children and infants in swim diapers with supervising adults. We just completed a major room remodel so there is some additional dust associated with the remodeling of course we are going room to room to be sure the contractors didn't miss anything like toilet paper holders, but the results overall have been well received. I'm sorry you won't be staying with us again but wish you the very best in all your future travels. Sincerely, Randy Grismer

"I expected better"

3
User 26/06/2017

When we had a family wedding reception this hotel, I was really excited to because I heard amazing things about it. However, the door handles were terrible and impossible to turn until a staff member showed me the "trick" for getting it open. It was like they were installed upside down. I struggled to get into my room everytime. The room had a stale smell to them. We requested an early check-in (noon) to freshen up before the wedding but even at 3:00pm the room "still wasn't ready." The hallways with the construction smelled like something died in them. I understand the need for construction but at least try to do something about the smell. I thought I hit it big when I got one of the last rooms available. But for $125 a night it was NOT worth the money. I heard better reviews from the Super 8 down the road where my friends stayed. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ashley R., Thank-you for taking the time to write a review. We are of course deeply saddened that our property didn't exceed your expectations. Remodeling and updates are nearing completion property-wide and I'm sorry your stay was impacted by our progress. We are working diligently with all our contractors and reservations to minimize the guest impact and door installation is certainly one of those items we'll be discussing this week. I wasn't aware that there was any malodor during your visit but will most certainly visit with our housekeeping team and work with our maintenance team to ensure that doors to the outside remain closed as much as possible to minimize any drifting odor from the construction work. We know that as we wrap up our remodeling guests can expect a fantastic layout, superb design, and unequalled comfort and believe every guest will feel there is exceptional value for their stay. We wish you every happiness in your future travels and thank you for your comments. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manger

The hotel staff are awesome, the beds are comfortable - but if you like to swim and you don't have kids then you might not like the pool. The deepest is 3.6 ft.! it's a kiddie pool. And the spa had so much clorine it ruined my bathing suit. The free breakfast was good!

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Kim H. Thank-you so much for taking a time to write a review. I'm glad our team was "awesome" and you had a good nights rest. I was sorry to hear about the trouble you had with our hot tub. deborahaO3303LZ, Prior Lake, United States 04/06/2017

Hotel is old and shabby. There are renovations underway but it seems they are trying to put lipstick on a pig. The housekeeping staff did not vacumm the room. The exterior security is disabled. The complimentary breakfast leaves much to be desired and is served from a cramped small unworkable space. Breakfast seating is in the bar. The decor is old and dated and the overall feel is of a hotel that is long past its prime and due for a teardown.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
deboraha03303LZ, I am so very disappointed your visit was not everything you or I hoped it would be. Your experience and feedback seem to run counter to our efforts and the responses we've garnered from most of our guests. While remodeling does pose challenges including the major electrical and security updates which do require disabling locking devices over short periods of time I want you to know that those updates to our fire notification systems, door security locks and illuminated LED exit and emergency lights are all intended to provide the safest building possible in an emergency. The complete remodel of our guest rooms including insulation walls/ceilings, wall vinyl, pad, carpet, all new furniture including task chairs, ergonomic two-tiered desks, tufted task chairs, enhanced LED lighting, fiber optic powered internet, solid surface tub surrounds, slate flooring were all intended to meet or exceed our guests expectations, and I'm so sorry that somehow we missed the mark. Our Complimentary deluxe continental breakfast featuring 4 hot items daily, build your own waffle and yogurt station, 4 juices, 4 cereals, 4 or more assorted breads, rolls, bagels, donuts and English muffins has been generally well received. The serving area is smaller but with seating for 100 people at one time and 5 televisions to provide morning news, we've generally found Minerva's is the perfect place to host breakfast. We will of course do everything we can to improve and we thank you for your feedback and your visit. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

Andrew S, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 02/06/2017

I stayed here for a week and the hotel was under a remodel. Room was nice with two queen beds. Air conditioner did not keep up and outdoor temperatures were only about 75 degrees and a/c was only set on 68. Pool does not allow food or drink in that area which was blamed on state law, however I have never seen this in any other pool area in South Dakota. Would stay there again.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Andrew S. Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review! I'm glad you found the room comfortable and well appointed. As you noted, we are remodeling which we should be wrapping up in the coming weeks. I'm not sure what type of room you rented but every room will be equipped with a new digitally controlled wireless A/C and heat units as we complete the remodel. With regards tot he pool area, SD State Law adopts federal guidelines for postings and pool safety and those guidelines specify that glass is not permitted anywhere in the pool area and no food, beverage, or electrical appliances are permitted with 4 feet of the pool. We do not permit food and beverage in the pool area as our pool area has no barrier between the perimeter of the pool and the seating area. We want to provide the cleanest safest pool possible and reduce the risk of injury or contamination which may cause the pool to be closed unnecessarily. Food and beverage in the pool area increases those risks and decreases the amount of seating and table space available for all our highly valued guests. We regret any inconvenience this policy may cause and we will review the policy in an effort to better serve all our guests. We are very glad to see you will be returning and can't wait to show you the fully remodeled hotel! Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

In the process of remodeling, looks like it will be nice when it's done. Clean and though they're updating, it still has that old hotel feel. Staff was friendly for most part. LeeAnn at front desk was great. The younger gal with her was not helpful nor was the younger gal this am. Adam and Anne at restaurant were great too. Housekeeping was comprised of 3 young women and a male child. They seemed to be having more fun than working. Pool was clean and warm. Area was clean though poorly lit. Hot tub was nice but super chemically. It met our needs and we had fine stay but wont stay there next time.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear dak0star0se, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. I'm of course very pleased you found our property clean and well maintained during your visit. As you mentioned we are remodeling and when completed the entire property including guest rooms, halls, corridors, building exterior and more will be fully renovated to meet and exceed the needs of our guests. I'm glad you found Leann friendly and helpful, she was training in several of our new team members as we ramp up for the summer and I'm sorry they weren't yet as well versed in our overall hotel operations. I want to assure you that the satisfaction of our guests is our top priority! I'll also pass on your high praise to our Food and Beverage team and wanted to let you know that I visited with our housekeeping team who was working and had a visiting family member stop in to say hi during the holiday, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and will work diligently to continue to improve. This hotel is under renovation and the remodeled areas are very nice. The pool/hot tub area are nice and pretty family/kid oriented. But it was pretty quiet during the week. The free breakfast was fairly average. the lounge/bar area was small and friendly.

We enjoyed the hotel but were 5 minutes late for the resteraunt and had to order a pizza. Disappointed the bar did not even offer pizza and then sold us plain potato chips for $2. Breakfast was mediocre. Rooms were clean, nice and quiet. Staff was great.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Jayne B, Thank-you so very much for writing a review. We're so very sorry you didn't have a chance to enjoy the fantastic dining options available at Minerva's. While I can't be certain what time you arrived the dining room and bar serve food until 10:00 PM and room service is also available until that time. Our Complimentary Deluxe Breakfast features build your own waffles and yogurt bars, assorted breads, cereals and fruits and at least 3 hot items each day including a rotating meat option so of course we are disappointed you didn't find what you were looking for. We welcome any feedback you may have about what we can do to improve our breakfast and hope we have another opportunity to WOW you on a future visit. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

I'd like to take a moment to thank the breakfast crew for making our family feel so welcomed during our stay. Special thanks to Izzy McKittrick for her kindness and going above and beyond. The breakfast buffet was well kept up and dining room was clean. Thank you!

Reservations were simple. Check-in was speedy. Very clean & comfortable rooms. Quiet. Friendly staff. Clean....especially bathrooms. Good water pressure in the showers. Mattress was more comfortable than mine at home. Good location...felt very safe there. Substantial breakfast. Food at restaurant was excellent. Rates that weren't too high. Easy check out. Nice place.

Ds S, Fort Pierre 18/03/2017

Our room had been recently updated. Very nice and it was clean. The most comfortable chaise lounge EVER set in the corner of our room with a little side table just right for a laptop. Breakfast attendants were very friendly and attentive...Stephanie, Izzy and Sarah help start a day off right.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at Best Western Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ds S, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We're so very glad you stayed with us during the State "B" Boys Basketball Tournament. With everything going on in town we didn't necessarily have a chance to showcase our newest round of remodeled rooms but I couldn't agree with you more! The chaise loungers in our King rooms are AMAZING! We hope you have many opportunities to return to Aberdeen and experience the unique comforts in each of our many room types! Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

Everything was clean as usual and the room was recently updated from last year. Izzy McKittrick was an excellent servicer and very friendly. We have stayed at this hotel for more than 25 years for the basketball tournament.

Sylvia A, Kansas City, Kansas 07/11/2016

We stayed one night to attend a funeral. The total cost of our room including tax was $89.00. This was a family trip. I do spend a lot of time traveling alone for work, so I am always looking at safety and cleanliness. The hotel was undergoing a renovation. Could not believe how bad it got before they decided to renovate. Bathroom tiles and grout were dirty. Food spatter on bedroom walls. Tub/shower drained very, very slowly. Carpet was not vacuumed well in room- found a pair of socks on floor by window. Corridors were smelly and musty from the smoking days. Most importantly this hotel does not have an elevator. If you have any mobility issues please let them know you need a room on the ground floor. Parking is a nightmare. Not enough parking spaces near your room corridor entrance. The place is a maze, so it is best if you can park closest to the entry door by your room. The parking lot is not well and the card key readers on doors leading from parking area into hotel were non functioning - doors did not lock. Anyone could enter the premises. The free breakfast was very good. Oddly enough the restaurant was beautiful. This Mission styled space had mission style lamps, wall paper, detailed wood work and furniture. Wonder if this very comfortable space survives the renovation? The restaurant and front desk staff were very nice and helpful. I wonder if housekeeping had just given up, knowing a renovation was underway? While many of us travel we like to seek out the lodging chains we grew up with; with that being said this was not reminiscent of Best Westerns of yesterday. Additionally, since the hotel was undergoing a renovation our room rate should have been cut in half. To get from our room to restaurant we had to step over rolls of carpet and tool boxes in the corridor being renovated. Travelers, I would check more recent reviews of Ramkota and other lodging such as the Holiday Inn before making your reservations. Happy Travels.

HLM530, Oacoma 07/11/2016

I think it is horrible that the staff has to beg guest to give them praise for a raise. Management should be on site and overseeing staff so they know if the employees deserve a raise. Izzy McKittrick did a great job in the breakfast area. Not saying she begged us for a review but she should not have been put in the position that she had to had out cards for a review.

"Deplorable Cancellation Policy"

1
Kim S, Bismarck, North Dakota 24/10/2016

My husband's grandfather passed away last week. I tried to cancel our room for Saturday with more than 24 hours notice. I had to cancel because the funeral was on Saturday and we would be unable to make the trip to Aberdeen. When I called the 1-800 number listed in the email. The woman who answered was polite, but insistent about the policy. I think it is ridiculous that I was charged over a $100 for a room that I'm sure they could have filled over the busy weekend. Apparently a death in the family means nothing!

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Kim S. I want to sincerely express our condolences on your loss. In review of what I believe was your reservation it appears you booked through a third party. While these websites and agencies provide an exceptional value they come with specific criteria. The rate is lower but the caveat is that the room is non cancellable and often non-refundable, regardless of the circumstance and the guest must accept those terms and conditions when making a reservation. In an event like this the fallout is deeply troubling. We do encourage guests to contact us directly when making reservations and while the rate may not be as deeply discounted our standard rate has a much more flexible cancellation policy, with late check-out and early check-in options available as well. We do work diligently with our third party vendors and in circumstances like this make every effort to coordinate a discount or refund on your behalf and if that is possible I'd be happy to be of assistance. Once again our condolences on your loss. Sincerely, Randy Grismer General Manager

"A Delightful Stay"

5
ESCdn, Winnipeg 04/10/2016

The employees bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. Our room was very comfortable and Izzy served a very nice breakfast. When she realized I was unable to eat the breads and pancakes she even offered to run out a pick up some gluten free items. You can't ask for anything more, especially because it was a free breakfast and I might add very tasty. Thank you Ramkota for your exceptional service.

"Don't be fooled by positive reviews"

AmberHiler, Minneapolis, Minnesota 03/10/2016

I checked in to this hotel at 6:30pm, and checked out by 9pm. First freaky incident, I get to my assigned room, and the door is wide open and all of the lights are on. I call the front desk to ask why this would be, and they said, as long as the room is clean, it should be fine, housekeeping probably forgot to shut the door. Weird. Fast forward ten minutes later and the lights in my room keep flickering - every light fixture has this issue. Soon, the entire power goes out, comes on, goes on, and continues on like this for about ten minutes until I call the front desk. I can see the lights in the hallway are not going out, nor the lights in the pool. I ask the front desk if any other rooms are having problems with power outages, the lady says No, and that she is going to send her maintenance man up. The maintenance guy was very polite, but while he was inspecting my room, the power went out again, so he said this was just my room, maybe an issue with my breaker, and he was going to ask the front desk if I could switch rooms. A few minutes later, the maintenance man reappears, letting me know he is moving me to a remodeled room, and has no idea why my room was experiencing these outages - definitely an isolated incident, he says. Fast forward ten minutes of being in the new room, power goes out twice more. I call the front desk, but the line is a fast busy signal. Again, hallway lights and pool lights remain on, so at this point, I've had it, I leave, I call when I get to a new hotel down the block, and Melanie informs me I'll be charged the full amount as they were having outages due to the "storm" - really, then why was I moved rooms and told this was an isolated incident? Big time fail - not to mention the hotel is a throwback to the 80's and feels like more like a motel than a hotel. Oh, and the pillowcases had weird stains on them. Definitely not worth anything close to the $116 plus tax I had to pay for my three hours of moving rooms and power outages.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear amberhiler, I am so sorry you encountered as much trouble as you did. You may have noticed the extensive remodeling going on in the building and the fact that there was exceptionally inclement weather including strong winds and lighting during your brief time with us. Both of these factors made trouble shooting your specific concerns more time consuming than we hoped, especially as we exercised exceptional diligence to ensure your safety and that of all our guests. It is true we did experience intermittent service interruptions in several, but not all of our rooms. Our engineer appears to have been courteous and helpful, however what he may have failed to mention is our facility has two separate electric service providers and redundancy in service. As result, when power is interrupted we can often float to another carrier causing a momentary interruption of services. However with substations taking multiple lightening hits we did experience surges in power at certain substations and subsequently to certain primary power panels. While the breaker controlling power to your room was in tact and your safety was assured we were unable to coordinate quickly enough with local power companies due to the high call volume, so we were unable to inform you further as you had already left by the time the matter was resolved. We deeply regret the inconvenience to you and are of course sharing your feedback with both of our local power companies. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

We spent several days here over the Labor Day weekend. This place was slammed with two wedding parties and several birthday parties. The room was nice and we moved to a room with an outside door since we had a dog. Terrific space to walk the dog right outside the door! Breakfast was very very congested but the gals (Paula and Izzy) handled everything super well--they definitely should get a raise Our grandkids enjoyed the pool and had lots of kids to play with. We will definitely stay here again when we're in Aberdeen

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Aberdeen Ramkota! The rooms were spotless and modern and the staff at Minerva"s restaurant were terrific. The complimentary breakfast was amazing! I was expecting stale doughnuts and muffins. I was totally wrong! They had eggs, bacon, french toast, cereal, oatmeal, etc. it was delicious!! The woman in charge of the breakfast, Denise Huber, was very friendly and eager to help us.

We've always enjoyed staying at the Ramkota in Aberdeen. The beds are comfortable. The decor is pleasant & updated. There are plenty of outlets for recharging our cell phones on their new lamps. It was a pleasant experience once again.

"Not worth the stay. Only stayed because of pool"

2
Stacey C, Bloomfield, United States 22/08/2016

I booked this place for the indoor pool for my son for our vacation stay because it was child friendly. If it wasn't for the pool, which the bottom on the pool hurt our feet because the coating was sharp, I would've checked out the same night. Our hotel room floor was dirty and damp leaving our socks dark and wet. We had to wear our shoes in the room because the carpet was gross. Service at the reception counter was poor and rude.

"Great Stay! Denise Huber is the best :)"

JillW2000, Minnesota Lake, Minnesota 21/08/2016

The ladies down at the breakfast area were the best. We got down there late. It only went till 9, we got down there about 9:20, but they told us it was ok, they even turned the waffle maker back on for us. They visited with us and made a suggestion for a stop at the museum downtown, after we told them we were on a mini vacation to Storybook Land. We did stop at the museum, and loved it. The next morning we made sure we went down early, those ladies run their butts off down there! Thank You Denise Huber! The kids loved the pool with the lily pads, I liked the fact that it wasn't a real deep pool, the deepest part was only 3'6". Was nice with the kids still learning how to swim. The only complaint is the air conditioner, it was just stuffy in the room the whole time, even with it going full force. That is not something that would make me not stay there again though, it was a great place and if we are ever back there, that is where we will stay!

Our room leaked from rain they moved us at 11 pm at night to another room, pot smoke smell down the hall, no elevator, pool had poop in it and nobody did anything about it yuk yuk yuk, should call the city or something yuk yuk yuk

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear rvdad1, I want to apologize that your room leaked. We had an incredible storm roll through and it caused significant damage to a section of the roof which I am glad we were able to immediately repair in light of day. I was pleased our team was able to move you to two nearby rooms in an effort to better accommodate you given the extreme circumstances. It is true we don't have an elevator, so I did review our online property information to be sure we weren't misrepresented somewhere. It may be useful to know that many hotels built with two stories or less are not required to have an elevator and we make every effort to accommodate requests for ground floor rooms. Our engineering team did immediately review your concern regarding poop in the pool only to discover it wasn't the incident it was originally thought to be, which posed no threat to the health or safety of any guest which is why the pool remained open. With 3 nationally certified pool operators on staff we take our guest safety and pool operations very seriously. We deeply regret the inconvenience the weather the first night of your stay caused and wish we had been able to set a better tone for your visit. Best Regards, Randy Grismer General Manager

Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Aberdeen SD is a clean and friendly place to stay with good continental breakfast. The only negative is that they don't have an elevator so if you don't want to carry your suitcases and items to the second floor then you need to ask to stay on ground level.

Joshua B, Sioux Falls, United States 12/08/2016

Very comfortable, free breakfast, optional restaurant in the same building as the hotel. I stay at Ramkota for all my business trips. I wish that they had better internet. Seems like when everyone gets back to the hotel after work it slows completely down. I will keep staying here for the good service and cleanness of the hotel.

"Izzy McKittrick makes your hotel a happy place!"

5
User 07/08/2016

We stayed at the Ramkota for 2 nights for my sister-in-laws funeral. I've never felt so taken care of while eating a "free continental breakfast" before. Izzy McKittrick was so helpful and friendly. She was taking care of us just like we were Minervas paying customers. She took time to talk to us and she made my husband smile for the first time in days. We absolutely love your pool too. :) Our only complaint is the air conditioners in the rooms don't work very well. We stayed for 2 nights in June for a wedding and 2 nights in Aug for a funeral and all 4 nights got very hot and stuffy even with the AC turned down as low as it would go.

this hotel in a good one. the staff were very nice. they have the usual breakfast items that you find at hotels these days. the attached restaurant serves good food at a fair price. the location is good, a little off of the beaten path but down town is just a mile or two down the road. there are several other places to eat near by as well as an ice cream drive in. over all if I was to pass through again I would surly consider this hotel as a place to stay.

Right from the start, Beth & Alexia were there to help us get just the accommodations we needed since we had to have adjoining rooms to watch over a grieving widow. Then Lizzy & Donna stepped in at breakfast time to assist us and seeing that we had an excellent breakfast that first morning and every morning we were there. We had many meals at the hotel restaurant, Minerva's, and were never disappointed. Derek and Nate and every server we had, were exceptional in dedication to detail and service. We only wished that the court yard was in better shape so that we could have had a place to visit with all the family that came for the funeral.

"Birthday celebration"

3
James N, Centerport, NY, United States 15/07/2016

Our family met in Aberdeen for a birthday celebration. We chose this hotel for a variety of reasons: its location near Wylie Park as part of the group was camping there, it has a pool for the kids to enjoy, and it offered suites so we could enjoy time together inside.. It served the purpose but the interior of the rooms is dark, dark, dark. The pool is small and equipped with lots of slides, climbing nets, water jets, etc. The night we were there it was packed with kids and total chaos reigned. Not a hotel person in sight and some parents not attending. It was scary. The second time we used it, it was nearly empty, calmer and the kids loved it. It is designed for children, but not wall to wall uncontrolled children.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear James N., Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you chose to stay with us and found our location was convenient and the suites close in proximity which appears to have worked well for your family. Our pool is the largest pool in our community both in size and deck space, with 8 poolside rooms, 154 spacious rooms and suites and as you pointed out our proximity to storybook land, I'm sure you can imagine the demand for a fully accessible indoor pool is high....especially when it's hot outside! We're glad things did slow down a bit for you so you had a bit more privacy and personal space to enjoy the indoor water play-land during your stay. I also want to apologize that some of our guests may have been discourteous and left children unattended. We hope this would not dissuade you from returning again! Thank-you so much for your patronage and your feedback. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

"Enjoyable Visit!"

lrathert, Des Moines, Iowa 11/07/2016

We had a very enjoyable visit, this was our 2nd stay at the Ramkota in 3 weeks. The rooms are clean and quiet. 1st stay we had a fridge and Microwave, not the 2nd time, great amenity. The 2nd stay we enjoyed the bar area and Minerva's, both awesome places, the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant, not too pricy. The one negative, we never get enough towels in our room, always have to ask for more. On the 2nd visit we were there for a wedding, and the reception was right at the hotel, what a wonderful venue for the reception, I loved the convention area. The food was great, and the staff were ever so accommodating. Would definitely recommend and stay at the Ramkota again.

Dear lrathert, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We're so very glad you found your room spacious and comfortable and were so very satisfied your returned again! We stayed at this location for 7 nights during a family visit. Room was clean and well stocked. Internet was easy to use, but the printed instructions in the room were not correct. Not sure why they didn't tell us our username and code were on our room key at check in instead of making us call the front desk to ask. Breakfast was ok for a free breakfast but the layout of the breakfast room was not very good causing congestion and delays. Pool, bar and restaurant were great.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear 662mistip, Thank-you so much for writing a review. We're so glad you had an opportunity to visit with family for an extended period of time while in Aberdeen. We were happy to host you during your visit! We're also glad you found the room clean, comfortable and well stocked and the internet worked well. I want to apologize that you weren't informed at check-in that the user name and password were on the key jacket and I will visit with our team to review the welcome letter and be sure the instructions are correct. We do have a small breakfast buffet area which we've worked hard to make both flexible and convenient. With an on-site restaurant and bar opening daily the seating space is abundant so we'll work with our team to make things even better! We hope you have an opportunity to return soon and thank-you for your kind words and patronage! Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

Room was clean and spacious, bed was super comfy! Breakfast was just the right assortment and hot. Had dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent. Only strange thing was room had door to outside as well as inside hallway, not sure why.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear VickiR53, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We couldn't be happier that you found everything met or exceeded your expectations! Our larger than average rooms with oversized desks, extra outlets and USB charging ports and ergonomic chairs in all our king rooms are definitely a key feature for our business travelers. You mentioned the interior and exterior door as well. While not perfect for every guest many of our business travelers like the added convenience of being able to pull right up to their room and unload without having to bring things inside. Additionally these spaces are immediately outside the doors for the guest rooms so those with concerns can easily see their vehicle and cold weather plug-ins are also easily accessible. We hope that you have the opportunity to return often to see the other creature comforts we are bringing to all of our guest rooms in the coming months and years! Best Regards, Randy J. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very nice, swimming pool was great for the children. Food at the hotel was rather expensive so we ate out. We had a minor problem with our room and it was corrected immediately. Staff was very good at helping us with activities to do and things to see in the area.

"Nothing special."

One thing that always bothers me, is when I'm somewhere IN PERSON, and kept waiting, while the service desk or whomever, decides the phone is more important, and continuously answers the phone instead of helping me. I called the hotel directly to book a room, since my computer was down, and I wanted to know specifics about this specific hotel. I was immediately bounced to the generic hotline. So when I show up to check in, I couldn't believe it, when there was only one woman at the check in desk, people waiting to check in, and a long line forms behind us, while the check in lady keeps answering the phones, booking rooms, taking down numbers to call people back, answering every phone call that came in! It was 20 minutes, before we even got to the desk, and there was only one couple in front of me. Lady wasn't friendly at all - never did see her smile, even later when the desk wasn't busy. Should have at least 2 people checking in, especially if you're going to make the call-ins the priority. The hotel itself is dated and old. Room was spacious enough, beds were okay, but I didn't find them real comfortable. I was pleased that the AC worked well in our room, and was on when we arrived, so our room was already cooled down - that's the best I can say about our stay. I was disappointed, that our room did not have microwave or fridge, especially when they have an onsite restaurant & room service, and rooms are well over $100 a night! Pool would be worthless to anyone wanting to actually swim, but there is a good sized hot tub, and the pool was perfect for kids. It starts at a shallow 1 1/2 feet and by the frog slide was almost up to 3. It does get a bit deeper after that, where the big kids played, but I was happy there was plenty of room for littles to have fun in the water too. Nothing special really stood out, that would make me want to stay here again though. I guess if you have little kids that like the water, give this place a try.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear ificouldonlyfly, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. I wanted to express my disappointment and a bit of confusion regarding your review. Your review indicated that you called the hotel directly and were bounced to the generic hotel hotline which left me a bit befuddled as this is a feature we don't currently have and can't employ. We do want every guest interaction to be personal and timely so we make every effort to address each guests' needs promptly whether that is on the phone or in person. While it is relatively easy to schedule staff based on anticipated arrivals or departures, one simply never knows when the phone will ring or how to staff for it. We do schedule multiple service team members for each shift so I want to apologize you didn't receive the excellent check-in experience you deserve. On another note I am pleased to inform you that guest room microwaves and refrigerators are on their way as part of our upcoming guest room remodel and we're certain the other guest room improvements will well received. We hope that you would give us the opportunity to better showcase our property on a future visit and stand ready to assist you. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

"Love the bathroom amenities!"

Flygirl_1350, Englewood, Colorado 22/06/2016

I have been staying hotels all over South Dakota and probably the biggest highlight that made my day at this hotel was the bathroom amenities. Finally a hotel with a decent bar of soap! Something a girl appreciates after a few hotels with crappy miniature bars of that white soap. Comfortable bed, great breakfast service, friendly staff, and cool looking pool for the kids.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Flygirl_1350, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We are exceptionally pleased you found everything to your liking! We couldn't agree more that a comfortable stay should include a great bath experience and we're glad we were able to provide the amenities you needed. We hope that you come back often to see updates and changes as they happen and want to sincerely thank-you for your kind words and patronage. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

Joan at the front desk was the best experience of any place we stayed. She accommodated our desire for first floor. She got us reservations for the following night. The pool was fantastic for our 8 yr old grand daughter. It was the best experience of our trip.

"Good facility/needs come updating"

4
F3262PBstephenh, Watertown, South Dakota 13/06/2016

Stayed recently as part of wedding party. Really nice facility but could be a lot better. Facility needs some updating. Very hot while we were there, in the mid 90's and HVAC system was doing everything it could to keep up, but I always wonder why that is" Why don't building owners put in the proper system to begin with so people aren't having to put up with over taxed systems during different time of the year? People plan weddings for months trusting that the hotel/motel will provide comfort for the guests, but they seem to fail so often. This facility just needs the owners to invest money in updates to the basic infrastructure so that guests are comfortable no matter what time of year it is.

Front desk was great, the shuttle service they used was wonderful and the breakfast was good. (and they had salsa for the eggs!) The room and hallways were clean. I had a late check in and called to let them know so there would be no problem. They were very accommodating.

Having stayed at 3 Ramkota hotels in the Dakotas (one location 6 nights straight each year for the past 13 years-you tend to notice things) I was cautiously optimistic as customer service can definitely be hit or miss and their properties seem to appear that they are continually getting "band-aids" to get by. The first 20 hours or so was good, then came morning. The breakfast area was chaos...it's all just very simple food and utensil placement. After breakfast the kids and I stopped by the front desk to ask for an extended checkout (with my wife leaving for a 4am flight I needed extra time getting kids ready). Coldly, the attendant stated "I cannot process any late checkouts". Dumbfounded I just stood there, thinking I was going to get some excuse that they had 10 bus loads of kids coming in or something, but nothing was said. With a 2 and 3 year old standing beside me I wasn't going to argue or plead, we just returned to our room...I guess 11am is 11am!. On our walk back to our room I picked up 2 pin needles in the hallway, just right before any of us would've stepped on them. After that I figured it was just a sign to just get the heck out of this place! (I found a 3rd pin while taking our bags out later that morning). Our night prior was good. Pool was warm, not too busy, kids had fun. Although service a bit slow, we had a good dinner in Minerva's. The morning is what ruined our trip and cut out the kids' pool time. With it raining outside 30-60 minutes extra would've been appreciated. Usually traveling for business I rarely ask for extended checkouts, but when I have it's not been an encounter like this. For the most part I hear "Not a problem" or at a minimum "I'll see what I can do" or "How long do you need". Customer service I guess really isn't all that important. Sadly, a maid cart wasn't even seen in the hallway until after 10am and there were a number of rooms empty with the Gideon's departing bright and early. I never even got a knock on my door as I quickly tried to get out of there. Just avoid the Ramkota franchise. The owners cannot seem to stick some profit back into renovation, upkeep, and customer service training. I'm hoping to end my yearly six night ritual in a Ramkota hotel as soon as we can find another facility capable of hosting our group.

"Huge room - very attractive"

Corby S, Rushville, United States 20/04/2016

The room was very big and comfortable. It was not cramped at all. The bed was comfortable and the food in the restaurant was excellent. The salad that came with the steak was a meal in itself. It was awesome. I would definitely stay here again.

"Nice place"

Kathy G, Mandan 14/04/2016

Everything was nice and clean, friendly and helpful staff. Great location next to a gas station. The restaurant has excellent choices of food, a little pricey but still good. The hotel was crowed only because there where several events going on in the area, basketball, volleyball tournament and a wedding but I never felt like it was an issue. Will stay there again whenever possible.

Dear Kathy G. Thank-you so very much for taking the time to write a review! We sincerely appreciate the kind words. The staff in the bar/restaurant remembered our names and what we drank. They were warm and friendly and very accommodating to our big group and accommodated our requests to have many different tickets. Taylor and Patrick were a highlight along with the night manager. I apologize i don' t remember his name but he remembered mine! The front desk team also was very patient and gave great details when we checked in and checked out. I gave my name for a waiting list for next year State B's tournament. The hotel was very accommodating to our team and providing the hospitality suites with great service and kindness. I am hoping we can get to stay at Ramkota next year during the tournament. It was perfect! thank you!

Dear Jhaggartuschen, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. I'm so very pleased to hear that your stay appears to have gone off without a hitch and you found our service and facilities exceeded your expectations. State B Basketball is a great reason to visit Aberdeen but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the other great sporting events we have going on all year long including youth soccer, indoor soccer, youth and NAHL hockey, our local baseball season and countless others so we hope you come back often to enjoy the many great sporting events we host here in Aberdeen! "Great rooms, bad pool"

3
Ashley S, Java, United States 14/03/2016

The rooms were great! They had comfortable beds with a nice sized fridge. However, we have had bad experiences with the pool. First of all, it has so much chlorine that it makes everybody cough and have sore eyes. Plus, it seems to always be over crowded.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ashley S. I want to thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you found our rooms exceeded your expectations and that you had a comfortable stay. Our pool most certainly is popular and a destination in and of itself for many people. With an indoor water play-land featuring a lily-pad walk rope bridge, frog slide, water canons and the largest pool and pool deck for 200 miles it's easy to see why it's popular. I deeply regret that the area was crowded. We do our best to ensure every guest has ample access with pool hours beginning at 6:00 AM and ending at 10:00 or 11:00 PM depending upon the day. We take pool safety very seriously and work hard to ensure chemicals are always properly balanced. When there are many swimmers the chlorine levels are adjusted to ensure a sanitary and safe environment. We regret any inconvenience or discomfort this may cause. We hope that you have a chance to visit on a slower day or time so you can fully enjoy everything our pool has to offer. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

"They're trying "

User 03/03/2016

I'm guessing that not having a smoke detector hooked up in a hotel room is generally frowned upon. But hey, things happen. Overall, it's pretty average for one of the Ramkota properties. They have remodeled the lobby which is nice. The rooms aren't too bad, but a little worn out. Common areas besides the lobbyare very worn out. The pool is good for kids ages 10 and under.......maybe even six and under. The staff is excellent. Minerva's restaurant and lounge is great.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Wickedroadwarrior, Thank-you for taking the time to write a review. We work exceptionally hard to ensure every guests' safety and satisfaction. I'm not sure how or why a smoke detector would have been disabled or tampered with as these are self contained units which have 10 year lithium ion batteries to ensure their operation even if they are disconnected from the power source. I have asked our maintenance team to inspect rooms to ensure no-one else encounters this problem. I'm glad you like the look of our lobby and we just remodeled 112 of our guest bathrooms within the past 18 months - new vanities, floors, tubs, etc. Rooms are next on the list so we hope you come back often to see these improvements first hand!! Thank-you for your patronage and your feedback. We look forward to your safe and speedy return. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

Minervas Restaurant is good place to eat. Continental breakfast is disorganized. Pool is designed for small children. did not let us reserve a block of rooms beside each other - everybody was spread out throughout the hotel.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Susan M. Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. We're glad you found our hotel overall was well suited to your needs and met your expectations. We do want to apologize that your breakfast experience and room proximity was not everything we hoped it would be. While we were fortunate to host a large youth convention with over 300 attendees I hope you can appreciate the logistical challenges this creates in assigning the proper style of room (suite, two beds, one beds, handicapped accessible etc.) to the proper guests with so many groups asking for similar considerations. Breakfast is also uniquely challenging but I hear that everyone was served and the breakfast was well received. We will be making some changes to our layout and serving processes based on the feedback we received especially during busier dates. We appreciate your patronage and your review! If you have ever stayed in a Ramkota property you will not believe this is a part of the Ramkota hotel chain. Room was very clean, bathroom updated and modern, comfortable bed and bedding, upgraded continental breakfast, very modern lobby, and most importantly excellent customer service is what you will find if you choose to stay here. Priced below other properties in Aberdeen and has a lot more to offer. This place has now become my choice in Aberdeen!!

"bedbugs"

melissa w, Aberdeen, South Dakota 06/02/2016

We stay at the hotel at least once a year. My girl likes to go swimming there for her birthday. The pool was pretty cold. My youngest wouldn't get in because of it, but my daughter had fun. The nightmare wasn't noticed until we all got into bed for the night. I was laying there nursing my youngest and a bug came crawling towards us. I jumped up picked the bug up and washed it down the sink. Not wanting to startle my family I grabbed my phone to look up what bedbugs looked like. Sure enough it matched the description. After further inspection two more were found. I saved one and trapped it in one of your cups in the bathroom. My husband took it to the front desk to show the staff. Hopefully they have reported this incident and you are already on top of getting an exterminator. We quickly packed up and left the hotel. Leaving things behind because I don't want to bring those things home with us. I'm currently taking precautions with our belongings. You need to get this taken care of very gross. It was in room 104.

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Meslissa W. The national news over the past few years has reported on the problem of bed bugs which has driven an industry response nationwide to this issue. We have bee fortunate in our cold weather climate that cause for concern has been rare. Regardless the issue is a national concern and for this reason we have had a long standing relationship with a national pest control company and are pleased that over the years we've been able to work with them to ensure the best possible preventative care. Once we received notice of your concern we immediately contacted them and followed the protocol for properly securing a room so the professionals can inspect and follow-up. We will work with them to determine the cause of your experience, what type of bug you may have found and how to ensure that any potential problem is completely eliminated. We are disappointed that despite our vigorous policy for pest control of all kinds that you had an experience of this sort and regardless of the findings we will again redouble our efforts to provide the cleanest possible rooms. Melissa L, Aberdeen, South Dakota 07/12/2015

My club had their Christmas party there and I had surgery on my foot so I have a "boot" on and can not go up and down stairs, or walk a long distance at once. Plus we wanted to check in early to bring our grandson out to swim for a bit. When I called to make the reservation, I explained all this and they guaranteed me a room on the main floor, made sure it was close to a pool door and an outside door. Not to mention just down the hall from my club party! Plus they had the room ready early and my grandson got to swim and extra hour! The breakfast was AWESOME! both kid and adult friendly! Staff was helpful and nice! The only improvement I would say is the pool....my husband said it was cold and it was small for so many people being there. But he enjoyed the hot tub! EXCELLENT SERVICE!!!

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Melissa L, I'm so very glad your group was able to have a Christmas party at the hotel! I'm sorry to hear of your surgery but hope your recovery is speedy. We are always pleased to work with our guests in order to ensure special requests are honored....especially so when mobility can be an issue. Our pool area is ideal for children of all ages and the breakfast is second to none in our area. I also appreciate your comment regarding the pool...please note that we are remodeling the pool in early 2016 to provide an even better guest experience in both temperature and overall comfort. We hope you return often to see these improvements as they are made. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

"Pool freezing cold"

Chris V, Rapid City, United States 03/12/2015

Not worth paying a premium for a pool area that cannot be used. It was too cold for the kids. We talked to the front desk and they blamed the surrounding rooms for using their heaters. Stay at a cheaper hotel in the area.

"Good hotel"

kmbrown021393, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 25/11/2015

We stayed in this hotel this past weekend and the room was clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel is a little out of date but they are in the process of renovating now and based on the lobby it is going to get better. I felt the price was a little high given the current state of the hotel at this time; but, I enjoyed my stay and have no complaints. The food in the restaurant, Minerva's, was crazy good and the service was excellent.

"2nd time here"

2
jake731, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 19/10/2015

I've stayed here twice now... the biggest reasons i decided to come back after the first stay were... The hotel was nice and quiet. The breakfast was great. (better than most other places i've been) The price was average. None of those things were true this time. The only good thing was that the rooms were clean. (thats why i gave 2 star instead of 1) First, there was construction in the lobby that no one mentioned (over the phone or on any websites) Got a room by the pool (kids screaming right away in the morning and kept hearing dogs barking at night) Breakfast changed... and not in a good way. They moved breakfast out of the restaurant area and into some other room. Not sure if the cooks changed? the method changed? Either way... the breakfast was bad...All of it (besides the prepackaged things they didn't cook) Even the coffee was bad... honestly tasted like cigarette ashes. To top it all off... i payed quite a bit more. Like, 30% more than i did the first time. So i got to pay more... for a loud room and terrible breakfast. Not sure about staying here a 3rd time.

Stayed here recently for a wedding. Rooms were clean and bathrooms have been updated, but the bedroom area looked quite sad. Carpet tattered and furnishings out of date. Otherwise, very nice stay. Staff at Minerva's was excellent. Lobby was undergoing renovations and looked messy, but will probably look great when finished. Would definitely stay again.

We agree that the finished product will be remarkable and are happy to let you know that next year we'll continue our progress with updates to the guest rooms including items you mentioned like carpet and furniture. "Will never stay here again-stay somewhere else"

1
Bork276, Fargo, North Dakota 29/09/2015

We stayed at the ramkota this past weekend. The only thing I could say nice about this hotel is the room was clean. The lady that checked us in on 9-26-15 was not even close to friendly. We were greeted with what is your name (not a hello), handed a sheet to be filled out, asked for a credit card and she then gave us our keys and didn't say another word. Not a thank you or to tell us the easiest way to get to our room, breakfast times, etc. We then took our kids to the pool. They had fun at the pool but the hot tub was disgusting-there was actually pieces of tile just laying in the hot tub it was lukewarm and the jets didn't even work and felt like sand at the bottom??? Ugggh worst hotel experience ever!

bwgmAberdeen, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Ramkota Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Bork 276, Thank-you for taking the time to share your experience. I want to apologize that your stay was not what we hope for any guest. It appears your room was clean and comfortable and you found the pool to be an excellent layout for children. It also appears that our Guest Service team failed you miserably. Whether it is busy or slow each member of our team is expected to be courteous and helpful regardless of circumstance and I deeply regret that was not the experience you had. I also visited with our engineering team regarding the hot tub you mentioned and it is true that several tiles were pulled loose from the coping around the stairs and bench. I want you to know that we immediately repaired those items and also plan a resurface of the hot tub late this year to avoid future similar instances. We're grateful for the feedback and glad you made it safely home. Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

This hotel was clean and had very nice staff members. Those are the best things I can say about it. The doors and walls seemed to be paper thin, and the entire property is run down. They are in the process of renovation, however. The restaurant has pretty good food, considering the contrasting quality of the hotel itself. Breakfast was about as cheap as they can make it with the widest selection of mediocre items. Coffee was like dishwater. Children were in the pool and running up and down the halls shouting until close to midnight when I managed to fall asleep under a flimsy blanket. Who knows how long they actually were out there unsupervised and without any hotel staff intervening on behalf of adult guests who wanted to sleep. There is ample free parking.

Dear SushineCheyenne, Thank-you so much for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you found the room clean and comfortable overall. As you mentioned we are in the process of updating our property and I couldn't be more pleased with the direction we are headed. I was disappointed that the continental breakfast did not seem to live up to either of our expectations as we work very hard to ensure a wide variety of high quality items which appeal to all our guests are always available. I'm also saddened that while our pool area is a fantastic draw for families, it appears that in this instance one or more of those using our pool area were not as courteous as we would hope. We do hope you visit Aberdeen again and we look forward to the opportunity to impress you with our progress! Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager

Great Customer Service! They have their issues as do most hotels but their front desk clerks SAVE THE DAY...OR NIGHT!! Outside enclosed area is nice if you have kids and the continental breakfast was typical of what is expected. We would stay again.

We stayed here on our way to ND, it was average. I've read other reviews and if I had read them before we stayed we probably wouldn't have. But that wouldn't have been fair because actually it's not a bad motel at all. It's older and could use some updating but our room was nice and clean with comfortable beds. I didn't get a chance to eat breakfast just coffee but it looked good. We would stay here again if need be.

Dear Mrs. V., Thank-you for taking the time to share a review! We're pleased you took the time to visit us and share your experience. While there are many things we do exceptionally well I agree there are things we look forward to improving for you and our future guests. In fact this week we undertook a full renovation of our lobby, updates to the restaurant, pool area and a complete overhaul of our exercise room! All of this we hope to have completed before November. We'll be rolling out more guest room improvements in 2016 as well and can't wait for you to see them in person during your next visit! Best Regards, Randy J. Grismer General Manager
