Romantic and secret Annecy

With its canals and magnificent landscapes, Annecy is the ideal city for a romantic weekend.

Romantic and secret Annecy

Nicknamed “the Venice of the Alps”, Annecy borrows not only its canals and its ever-present water from the Italian capital of lovers. It is also romantic — the ideal setting for a weekend as a couple.

01 - Family hike on the chemin de ronde

Known as the chemin de ronde or the customs officers’ path, this 11-kilometre trail offers a lovely walk for nature lovers and is easily manageable with children. From the cliff road that descends towards the port of La Houle to the Pointe du Nid overlooking Petit Port beach, you will enjoy the surrounding landscape with sea views, and once you reach the Pointe des Crolles, you will pause before the wonderful panorama that opens onto Mont-Saint-Michel.

01 - Le pont des amours et ses vedettes

02 - The old town and its maze of streets

After discovering the lake, lose yourself in the old town along the canal that cradles it. Its paved alleyways, off the beaten path, hold wonders of restaurants, grocery shops and cheese shops in particular. Visit its treasured religious buildings such as the Church of Saint-François, the Church of Saint-Maurice or Saint-Pierre Cathedral. Worth discovering starting from the Best Western Hotel International, whose spa will be much appreciated after a day of walking.

02 - La vieille ville et ses dédales

03 - Annecy-le-Vieux and its beach

To enjoy the lake, take a trip to Annecy-le-Vieux, which is a town in its own right and has nothing to do with Vieil Annecy, a district of the city. Annecy-le-Vieux has two kilometres of utterly charming lakeside shores, and a harbour that is no less delightful. Its centre — and in particular its so-called “fortes” houses and its castles, including those of La Pesse and La Cour — should not be missed.
