Je m’inscris We have used this hotel with its conference room multiple years for family reunions. The staff is always so kind and they go the extra mile to make sure that we feel welcome and cared for as family members pour in from around the country to stay for a multiple night getaway. We especially appreciate the handicap accessibility for elderly family members as there are no stairs or tripping hazards for those using canes or walkers. The conference room is large enough to set up play areas for our younger family members so that the adults can visit comfortably without the youngsters getting bored. Breakfasts are always great and so nice to be able to have the whole family eat at their convenience without having to plan other options for that meal. An added bonus is being so close to multiple other shopping and local restaurants as we feed so many people over multiple days.
The hotel was very nice. Our room was very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. It had a very good breakfast and a nice indoor pool and hot tub. The hotel is close to many stores and restaurants. We would diffidently stay here again the next time we are in Portage WI.
I always stay at the Best Western in Portage when I am in the area. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. The towels are refreshed and the bed is made every day which is a nice amenity. The breakfast buffet is great and includes hot items - including pancakes - and a wide variety of cereals, fruits, yogurts, muffins, and juices. The staff is wonderful and will do anything to make your stay comfortable.
Pillows a little too thick for my preference, but I had my own. Room clean, hotel quiet. Simple breakfast. Coffee not the greatest. Desk clerk pleasant and efficient. Hotel near restaurants and Walmart. Very close to highway, but still quiet.
We spent 2 nights here and it was a very good experience - except for the noisy girls softball teams that were also spending two nights here. The first night they were pretty noisy until 10:30, the 2nd night they were too tired to be noisy. As far as the hotel, we have no complaints. The breakfast attendant was excellent at making sure the area was clean and well-stocked. Our room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and everything worked like it should. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Also, it's about a 15-minute drive from the "Dells" but it was a nice, quick drive and easy to get to the hotel. There were also quite a few fast-food restaurants, gas stations, and a Wal-Mart close by, so that was great! We would highly recommend this hotel.
Portage, WI is a small town, but this hotel is a major city stay with extra kind staff!! We will continue to book our stays here every time we visit my children and grandchildren!
Very clean hotel. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Nice pool and hot tub. Continental breakfast (included) was good. Would recommend.
Upon checking in there was a verbal and physical altercation between employees that prevented multiple people including my fiance and friend from being checked in. Not only that, our room had mold and leaking water above the window that I even took pictures of. Being moved to a different room after showing pictures of the mold, the new room was no better as it wasn't completely clean, broken window/latches and had a funky smell. We were told to contact manager Dawn to request a refund but gave no way to contact. Dissatisfied overall.
There is issues amongst staff and upon my check in there was a physical altercation with the employees at the front desk. Mold and attempted cover ups in several rooms. Windows missing screens and latches. Water coming in they were unable to move us just told us to call Monday and speak with manager Dawn to request a refund. Bummer attempted vacation for my family.
We transferred to this hotel from another in Wisconsin Dells (20 minutes away) because of the condition of the facilities and service at the other hotel. We were so pleased at the DRAMATIC difference in level of cleanliness, the hospitality of the staff and the security and safety that was a priority of this hotel. If we return to the area we will definitely stay here again.
If you're looking for friendly front desk folks, go elsewhere. I spoke with a woman, the same woman, twice on the phone as I attempted to make a reservation. On the first call she was "too busy" to make a reservation. She was checking somebody in and told me in a not-so-friendly manner that I would have to call back. I did. During my second call she quoted me a price that was significantly higher that their website. THEIR website, not Hotels.com of Expedia, etc. When I questioned her about that, she lashed out and said they were not responsible for those rates. Huh? I said it's your website. She would have none of it. Terrible customer service.
Ideally located a short drive from Cascade Mountain, near gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants, this hotel is perfect for skiers and snowboarders hoping to make the best of Wisconsin's slopes. The staff at this Best Western were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, amenities were as advertised, breakfast included lots of varieties, and the pool and hot tub were great as well.
Great experience! Would highly refer and recommend. The staff was very helpful and the hotel overall was clean. The breakfast is made on time with a large variety to choose from. Housekeeping keeps it quiet in the morning making sure you can get a great rest!
The hotel is so clean and welcoming. The staff are friendly and really bend over backwards to make sure you have a great stay. Awesome breakfast allowed us to fuel up and get in our way. Easy on and off highway that is outside of busy Madison. Such a Wisconsin gem.
The BW in Portage is where I always stay when I'm visiting Portage. The staff is excellent and I've gotten to know them over time. The hotel rooms are nice and clean and the breakfast is better than most hotels I've stayed at. The hotel is in a great location in close proximity to the highway, shopping and restaurants. I would highly recommend it.
Extremely clean and well maintained hotel. Friendly service and helpful staff. Lots of breakfast choices and the pool, hot tub and sauna facilities are great after a long day. Rooms are modern and comfortable beds!
I absolutely love the friendly staff here. They are so helpful. The place is always clean and tidy! Dawn the manager goes above and beyond for us constantly & I wouldn't stay anywhere else over this place
Dirty, filthy property throughout. Bad smell everywhere. Other guests loitering in parking lot smoking and drinking everyday. Took three asks to get fresh sheets in a 12 day stay. Room not cleaned once.
Staff was professional and friendly. Worth a stay at a great price. Breakfast was great. Close to plenty of places to visit. We had a tornado watch while we were staying and the staff handled it very professionally and made everyone feel safe
Best breakfast I've ever had in a hotel! So many choices! Clean rooms, great customer service, very reasonable rates, all around top notch! I would definitely stay here again and will suggest it to friends.
This is a very convenient and comfortable place to spend the night in the middle of Wisconsin. Easy off/easy on location next to I-39 and next door to Suzy's delightful steak and seafood restaurant. The rooms were comfortable and quiet and the complimentary breakfast of eggs and sausage was delicious. Suzy's has a very attractive bar, and the food was top notch. It's only a walk across the parking lot from the Best Western.
We were so pleasantly surprised with this hotel. We were looking for a more affordable option outside Wisconsin Dells proper so save some money and this was just perfect. It's about a 15-minute drive into the Dells, which never felt like a burden. The hotel was clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff was so lovely - very helpful and friendly. The pool needs a little updating but if you just want to unwind in a hot tub, it was just fine. We also loved the continental breakfast. There were hot and cold options, and it changed most days which we loved! It was scrambled eggs and sausage one day, then biscuits and gravy another, etc. Always pancakes, cereal, pastries, yogurt (with mix-ins), coffee and OJ everyday. And the breakfast hostess was amazing - always keeping things stocked with a smile. Again, the cost savings matched with a great staff made this a perfect stay. We would definitely stay again. One note we made for the future is that Portage restaurants (already a little sparse) closed early so we had some trouble finding dinner a few nights.
Wonderful value that is 20 min from all the noise and craziness of the Dells area. Only a quick drive back to the tourist sites when ready. Quiet area around hotel. Thank you. Beds great! Super clean pool area. Breakfast is above and beyond expectations! Pleasant staff.
Very nice accommodations ina good location close from Wisconsin Dells. Quiet, clean and peaceful. Free breakfast w kind and gracious customer service. Check in could have been more pleasant especially after driving 4 hours to stay there. The rest of the stay was perfect.
My child was sick and vomiting in the middle of the night, so I went down to the front desk for cleaning solution to clean the vomit off of the walls and floor. I was told they were unable to provide me anything but a new set of sheets and some garbage bags, and that they would have housekeeping come to my room around 9am when they come in. Housekeeping never came to my room, so I went to a nearby Walmart to purchase my own cleaning products so that our room didn't smell like vomit, as we were staying another night. Later, I ran into a housekeeper in the hallway to ask, and she knew nothing about it and never came into my room, only took my garbage and gave me some extra garbage bags. I'm not sure why a hotel would want this experience for their guest, or for the cleanliness of their rooms. I am very disappointed with the experience we had.
BW Portage is an outstanding place to stay. Easy check-in, convenient location and outstanding Customer Service. Location is next to several area shopping spots, and is center to several eat out locations, include a steak house in the parking lot.
I stayed in two best westerns durning my travel from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin and I was very pleased with the staff (very friendly) and the breakfast was excellent plenty to choose from and everything was hot that was supposed to be and same for cold items, very pleased with my stays
When I visit Portage, I also stay at the Best Western Hotel. The staff and service is excellent. They have a great breakfast included in the price. I've used the pool on several occasions and it is great. A nice restaurant is on the same property which is very convenient. And, the hotel is located in a good area for other shopping and restaurants. Great value for the money.
A great hotel. Clean and friendly. Continently located, especially if you are in the area for skiing at Cascade Mountain. The only con was a coffee and limited breakfast choices. But there is a plenty of nearby places to eat or grab something to go.
Very friendly staff. The rooms are always clean, and parking is always good. The hotel overall could use a few updates but just for sleeping has worked out for me. The beds have been comfortable, and the water pressure has always been great.
Room had trash everywhere and marked cleaned. Soiled linens on the sofa sleeper, beer cans uner the sink, a sharp pin on the floor, and screws. A blown up balloon, tape on the ceiling, mold on the ceiling. Just a few things in the "king suite" this hotel offers you. Front desk staff is less than pleasant, but Betty at breakfast was top notch. Wish the rest of the staff top to bottom would take notes from her.
The hotel is nice and clean and a good location. But they don't honor your reservation requests when they say they will. I was guaranteed that I would have 2 rooms next to each other because they didn't have connected rooms available. The man even picked the rooms number at the time I made the reservations but when arrived they didn't have that for me. The rooms are nice but tv remotes don't work very well. Pool is clean but they close it at night earlier than stated on the door.
When checking in, about 3pm, the person there that checked us in was about as unfriendly as a person could get. Never said hi or welcome. He came out looked at us and grunted something. I had to ask what he said. He said "name" and that was it. Gave us a slip of paper and never said what to do with it because he did not say anything. I figured out it was things I had to sign and that took a bit because the print was so light you could not read half of it. That was it from that person. Once he gave us the room key he just turned around and walked into the back room without a word. The people at the desk in the morning were really nice. Also the room had some bugs in it and used straws on the floor. Other than that the room was very nice and clean. Breakfast was good. The lady taking care of it was very nice and friendly.
The receptionist was not friendly at all. We had to call the desk several time just for him to come fix the tv remote. When he came to the room, he plugged in something and just walked out. Breakfast was horrible. Pancakes were just plan gross. To top things off there were so many bugs in our room. Very disappointed.
Portage Best Western great experience. They treated me with respect and kindness. The rooms were available and clean. Customer service excellent! The hotel room had everything i needed including extra towels. Highly recommend!
We had to request a different room because of several dozen lady bugs and a couples wasps inside our room near the window. The room also had a dirty sink area and bathroom when we checked in. Gross!!!
Clean. Comfortable. No noisy heater. One cup coffee maker, was not scummy. But they have a nice coffee machine in lobby ! Variety of breakfast snacks. Eggs were hot. Breads, muffins were in wrappers. They had gloves & hand sanitizer. Pancake maker, no waffles. They could use a little more help with the pool cleaning. Public areas of pool looked good. Exercise room (4) machines all work!
I visit Portage, WI, frequently and I always stay at the Best Western. It is clean and comfortable, has a great breakfast, and conveniently located. I highly recommend it. The hotel has a great pool, but during this particular stay it was out of order. So, if you want to swim during your stay, please call ahead.
Upon arrival, the tub had hair in it, tv volume would not adjust at all, hot tub was not hot nor were the jets functioning. Breakfast was excellent however. Parking was also confusing as property shares with restaurant and the sign for restaurant parking i think was out of whack causing confusion where we could and could not park
We were not greeted warmly, and did not feel at all welcomed. We were the only ones in the lobby and the only ones checking in. Unfortunately the location has no adjacent services, ie: food etc. The room is clean and nicely appointed which made up for the cold greeting.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Helpful and easy to talk with. Property close to several great restaurants and shopping opportunities. City of portage has great women's clothing stores in the downtown area. When in area always choose this property. Also, it is very close to Wisconsin Dells and other great vacatio sites.
Very clean and extra friendly. Never had a noisy stay. The staff goes out of the way to be professional and still have a smile when helping. The showers always have hot water with great water pressure. Convenient location with a short walk to Susie's for some seafood and steak!
We only stayed for one night while visiting family. There were no problems during our short stay. Clean bedrooms, clean hallways, clean carpets. Nice breakfast with hot items: scrambled eggs and sausage. I thought the vending machines are funny since they put both drinks, food, and candy all in one machine in each floor.
Nice room on the 4th floor. Standard amenities were good and all were functioning. Breakfast was a very nice experience and the property was nicely situated. However, the windows on the 4th floor were just a disgusting mess. Has no one ever cleaned these? It would be great to look out and see the view, but you really can't. Spiderwebs and general filth are so bad that you practically toss your cookies when you try to see out!
This place is very clean and well maintained. The staff that I had contact with were very friendly and helpful. One issue we had with the room, and this only applies to the rooms on the 5th floor, is that the balcony connects two rooms. There is a deadbolt on the sliding door but it wasn't secured very good.
I enjoyed staying at the Best Western. Overall I found my stay to be an easy process and I was satisfied with the service that I received from the staff. The eating area was always neat and clean. There were a variety of foods and beverages to choose from for patrons. The customer service exhibited by the staff was excellent. I would recommend this establishment to anyone that is staying in the Portage area.
The Best Western in Portage Wisconsin was by far one of the best hotel deals that we have come accross in a long time. The staff was kind and caring and the rooms were SPOTLESS. The hotel itself is a little bit older but the staff and cleanliness make up for this. It is obvious that this hotel is well taken care of by the staff and that they care about their guests that stay here.
anytime we are in Portage and need a room they are fantastic with getting us a pretty fair deal. the staff is very helpful and friendly. husband loves the breakfast and we both love the balcony rooms.
If I had to recommend a hotel in Portage, by far Best Western would be the place to stay.. The staff members are very kind and welcoming. The pool and fitness area is clean which is always a plus. The breakfast is also great. Check them out.
We have stayed numerous times at the Best Western in Portage while visiting family in the area. It is clean, has a nice pool and a great breakfast. It's also next to Suzie's Restaurant which is a great steak and seafood restaurant and bar.
Nice Place, good service by employees but lack of options and the breakfast is good but can improve. the Room service is good. the conditions of the room needs to improve and the cleanest of the hall carpet as well.
We booked a jetted tub room Unfortunately it didn't work and it was mauve color with broken knobs. There were cobwebs on top of curtains and towels and curtains with holes. The shower and toilet were clean But this room hadn't seen much since 1970 It was 142.00 with points
This was a perfect place to stay the night before skiing at Cascade Mountain. The hotel was extremely clean, had very friendly and helpful staff, and was easy driving distance to the ski mountain. I recommend this hotel to anyone needing to stay in the area.
I have been staying here since 2010, it is very adequate, the hotel is clean, staff is friendly and attentive and the rate is very fair.I have never been disappointed and if I ever have a question, Dawn the Manager takes care of it. I am sold on this operation.
Spent one night in this quiet, off the highway hotel. Was treated well, enjoyed breakfast, and had a good night sleep. Rooms were quiet for a Saturday night, but in pure Wisconsin fashion the forst thing I saw when walking in was a few people having a few drinks. It was perfect!
Clean and comfortable rooms. Very pleasant staff. Easy check in/out. Convenient location, easy to find. First time staying at this facility and will definitely do it again the next time I'm in town. Overall very pleased.
The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. The entire property was very clean. The room was very clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good and it was ready early, for guests who have to eat early.
My Queen Double room was spacious, with plenty of room to maneuver around the beds. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel, and staff was friendly and helpful. While waiting to check out, I was able to overhear the Front Desk Attendant on the phone with a customer. She was pleasant and courteous to the caller and knew the local restaurant scene. (The call started before I got to the desk, so I was not upset about having to wait a few minutes. This is why God invented Reddit!!)
We stayed at the Best Western Resort Hotel and Conference Center while moving our daughter from one apartment to another. The room was very clean and the decor was up-to-date. We were very pleased that we were able to have a "regular" breakfast including waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast burritos, not the grab-and-go breakfast that we had been expecting.
Rooms were not read. We waited 35. min past check-in time for our rooms. We were on a schedule for a 4:30 gathering so it made us late. Lobby area was not clean from breakfast tables and floor were full of crumbs. There was an unpleasent smell in lobby area and hallways. Rooms were clean and well maintained. But I must say the toilet paper holder was wrongly placed; very hard to reach a person had to lean way over and back to reach. Very unsafe for a senior citizen or child.
Was a nice place to stay at an affordable rate. When we arrived there was a softball tournament staying there and a wedding so it was a little loud. Breakfast area was nice but choices were limited. They had breakfast burritos the first day but not the next two days and that was the best thing there. Room was big and comfortable and was mostly clean but there was a lot of long hair on the shower wall when we got there. Staff was friendly but the ice maker and one of the elevators were out of order and they did not have signs on them until I called and asked about the ice machine. Not a lot to do in the Portage area during summer and spent most of our time in Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells. Many places to eat nearby and a Walmart not far away.
Initially, when I was going to book this hotel, I was going to use Expedia. But, just to make things certain, I decided to call the hotel directly. This did not go well. I made the reservation for a King room on a Sunday night. I was going to stay Monday through Wednesday. As I ended the call, I told the guy that I would see him tomorrow afternoon and he acknowledged it. When I arrived at the hotel, the gentleman at the front desk couldn't find my reservation. I then gave him the confirmation number. He said that he made that reservation last night, but didn't remember making it. He was able to get me a double queen room that cost more! The room wasn't nice. Breakfast was lack luster, bottle of water and a granola bar. I am not happy with this stay at all and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone!
Location: I was in town for a tournament in Wisconsin Dells. Hotels in the area were going for $300+ a night. I found this gem which is only a 15-20 min drive away at a very reasonable price. It is next door to a great steak and seafood restaurant, as well as close to a commercial area in Portage. (Walmart, Gas Stations, etc.) Facilities: There is a pool, hot-tub, sauna and gym. In spite of being near full capacity the facilities were adequately sized and didn't feel overcrowded. Everything was in working order and clean. One feature that is worth mentioning. There is onsite self service laundry! This was a welcome surprise, especially when traveling with kids and their sports gear. Rooms: The rooms were very clean, equipped with cable tv, coffee maker, hair dryer and plenty of towels. The beds were adequately comfortable, but the linens wear a little threadbare and due for a replacement.
One of the best places to stay in Portage. Employees are very friendly and helpful and always willing to go the extra mile. Thank you Best Western for making my stay comfortable you guys are the best.
The employees were all very friendly. The room was very clean. The location of the Hotel was easy to access and close to shopping, eating, gas stations. It is a very quite & relaxing setting, I would pick this as a more favorite place to stay. Also very close to Wisconsin Dells and not all the extra traffic.
My wife and I recently stayed at the Best Western Resort Hotel & Conference Center, Portage, Wisconsin for a 7-day period. It was the first time we had visited my daughter who lives in Portage since we had lived & worked overseas. With the location of this Best Western, versus the other hotel in this chain in the Dells, it seemed to be a perfect fit; one less prone to tourist invasion with the associated hubbub and clamor. If only. It is little fault of the hotel that a large portion of their daily clientele is field workers (railroad, roofing contractors, energy suppliers, etc.). An empty parking lot at 1630 can transform into an overflow condition of huge trucks, panel vans, and trailers in a remarkably short time. Ditto that at 0630 when they all seem to leave en masse, leaving parking spaces but precious little in the line of their advertised ‘free breakfasts'. However, this was a minor and easily overlooked daily situation. What wasn't so easily ignored was the demeanor of hotel workers and the types of ignoble replies I received for simple requests. Sure, COVID-19 is a huge bugaboo to any corporation dealing with the public, but the draconian measures commanded by Best Western seem a bit beyond the pale. Considering that the majority of the time, the cast and crew working in the hotel didn't bother to follow their own corporation's mandates. “STOP! Breakfast is over! NO ENTRY!” greets the customer who foolishly waited until 0901 to secure some breakfast victuals via the ubiquitous brown bag. “MASKS MUST BE WORN!” By whom, I wondered? The person at reception and the three room-cleaners I passed that morning wore none. Even this could be overlooked, but the surliness and curt replies I received at virtually every interaction with hotel staff could not. In our 7-day stay, our room was cleaned a total of 3 times. Sure, we keep odd hours, WE'RE ON VACATION. So, I call to inform the front desk at 1100 to let them know we're leaving and the room can be cleaned anytime before we return some 10 hours later. "No, there is no “Privacy please” plastic placard hanging on the door; I'm not that dim." “We'll get to your room when we get to your room.” Was the response from the person on the phone. “That's tautologous and readily apparent”, I replied, to nothing more than an exhausted
Whenever we visit the Portage area it's always been one of our favorite places to stay! Very clean rooms! Staff is very helpful! Good extended continental breakfast and hot coffee! Plus they have a nice pool and hot tub!
Cierra and dawn made out stay very comfortable and convenient. The room was very clean and comfortable. The pool was clean the hot tub was clean. We walked across the driveway to suzys steak house and had a great dinner both nights. Thanks to ALL staff at the portage best western.
Easy access off interstate and comfortable place to stay. Reasonable rates. Rooms/bathrooms clean, spacious. Beds a little too firm for me and pillows were small and fluffy. Unfortunately there was a very loud pickup parked right outside our window so that was a little annoying. All in all a decent place to stay. Grab n go breakfast plus had cereal, juice, coffee, breakfast sandwich you could warm in microwave. Few tables you could sit at. Would stay there again.
Price is good! The rooms are clean. The pillows are the best ever. Extremely comfortable. The pool is small and cold but my kids loved it. The WiFi could be better but is ok. We got 2 connected rooms and my kids room tv didn't work. Channels won't change. But the next morning it was all fixed and working. The staff are super nice and helpful. The breakfast wasn't available because of Covid which is fine. Great breakfast place down the street called Dino's.
Nice hotel. Clean, well kept rooms. Decent hot breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage (but no bacon, everything is better with bacon!) Good supper club and bar 60 steps across parking from hotel. Hotel needs to have guest use desktop computers and printer serviced, both so slow as to be disfuntional.
Nice and quiet place to stay. Excellent breakfast was served in morning. Internet was good. We used the fitness center, nice machines in there. Been here before in our travels, good pricing overall great stay.
I stayed at this hotel for a PSIA event held at Cascade Mtn. Previously, I've stayed in the Dells area. In the future, this hotel will be the spot due to convenience to the ski area. Check-in was smooth...only a few minutes (less than 5). Once up in my room, the room was sparse, but clean. Bathroom sink area clean and well organized. Tub seemed a bit dirty on the ledge getting into the tub, but otherwise was spotless. Usual body washes and soaps did the job but weren't anything special as I've experienced in other hotels. Room was quiet to sleep and comfortable with regard to temperature regulation. Both mornings I had breakfast as part of my stay. Basic rolls, scrambled eggs, make-your-own waffles. Layout for the breakfast area was cramped due just due to how the area was built. Made it difficult to a) get food having to walk between tables to go from one side or end of the breakfast area to another b) find an open table as there weren't many or c) getting juice which was back in one corner that several people mentioned they did not even see the machine. Breakfast was decent for a day on the slopes so outside of the layout, it was welcome to me. Convenience to the ski area was the ticket for me. About a 10minute drive from the hotel parking lot to Cascade Mtn parking lot. In the future, I'll stay at this hotel for these types of events or if I travel to Cascade for recreational skiing.
Clean, well looked after rooms with plenty of space. The staff are really helpful and polite. Facilities are good and all very clean. I would highly recommend this hotel and I'd stay here again in the future.
Hotel staff are excellent. They always make sure the customer comfort and the stay was pleasant. I have been going to this hotel on and off for the last three years. Never had any bad experience. They serve good breakfast included in my room cost.
The Best Western Resort in Portage is great! Super clean, friendly staff, easy layout. The pool isn't super cold, the hot tub is amazing and the sauna puts a nice relaxing touch. The room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was hot and had multiple choices to accommodate everyone's taste. But if it's not for you, there are several restaurants near by. Great place to stay for a family and not super expensive.
The hotel is a place that I stayed in long term nearly 7 years ago. It hasn't changed much, still friendly stafff. Good breakfasts and easy access to the rooms. The only thing I would like to see changed is the elevators act up sometimes.
This is a great place if you are looking for a clean hotel with great service. The hotel is one of the cleanest hotels that I have ever stayed in. Their breakfast selection is one of the biggest that I've seen in a long time. If you're in Portage, WI, I definitely recommend this hotel.
This hotel seems very dated. The outside of the place seemed kind of dreary and looked like it needed a good coat of paint. The front desk was good. The breakfast was ok. The decor of the room was fairly decent. It was clean. The exit door at the end of the hallway , did not automatically lock, it was broken, so anyone could come and go as they pleased. The price of the room was way overpriced for the quality. It was $100 for night. Where it was located and the quality of the room was like maybe a $65 a night. I personally would never stay there again.
I recently stayed 2 nights at the Best Western in Portage on a Sunday & Monday night. I was taking a late summer mini-getaway between Madison, the WI Dells area, and then up north near Shawano, so this was a nice location to stay for 2 nights. I had stayed here in the past with family different times and we always enjoyed it, so I decided to return. The rates were very reasonable for the nights I stayed, and I only paid about $100 + tax for each night by doing a prepay option--and that was even in one of their 5th floor balcony rooms! I found that to be a great deal. I arrived to check in right around 3:00 on Sunday afternoon since I had actually been out and about since about 6:30 in the morning, meeting up with various friends between Madison and Baraboo. It was not busy at all yet at that early hour, and it was late enough that the busy Dells weekend had wrapped up! The front desk worker who checked me in was pleasant and friendly, and I always find the staff here to be great! Many of the faces always look familiar when I stay here, so they must hold on to employees well here. It was nice having luggage carts available so that I could take everything to and from the room in one trip instead of multiple trips. There are 2 elevators to serve the 5 floors here, but one of them was out of service during my entire stay. This is not really the hotel's fault, but it made wait times lengthy at times, especially with being on the 5th floor. I got situated in my room, and I really enjoyed the room. It was very clean and comfortable. I was slightly disappointed to find that my room did NOT have a Jacuzzi like it said in the description when I booked. However, since I was the first room from the elevators on the back side of the 5th floor, I did have a private balcony, so I just stuck with the room they gave me. It appears that most of the other balconies on the 5th floor are not private and are even shared with neighboring rooms, which might make me uneasy. It was nice having my own balcony, and it was a large balcony. I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony at times during my stay, and I liked facing a wooded area. It was nice and quiet on that back side of the hotel, as I did not directly face I-39. The room was rather enjoyable, and I definitely felt that the price was right! I had plans to go to Ho-Chunk Casino near Baraboo later in the evening, so I decided to use the indoor pool and hot tub around 5:00 on Sunday afternoon, and I got it all to myself, which was nice. I always really like the pool area here, and this visit was no exception. I headed out for dinner after my pool time and then to the casino. There is a nice variety of restaurants and businesses in the area of the hotel, and I was happy to find a Pizza Ranch right down Highway 51! This is not always the easiest chain to find. It was nice having a Festival Foods right near there, too, for some items I needed to pick up. I did not get back from the casino until around Midnight, and there is always sufficient lighting in the parking lot to feel safe upon returning. I slept very well here both nights, and my king bed was extremely comfortable. I only had the continental breakfast on Tuesday morning, as I went out for breakfast on Monday with a friend in Portage. I enjoyed the offerings of biscuits and gravy, assorted pastries, prepared oatmeal, and more. The coffee was always hot and fresh in the lobby at all hours of the day, so I would go down there if I wanted coffee. The in-room coffee using the coffee maker was not nearly as enjoyable to me, so I opted to get fresh coffee from the Folgers machine downstairs. I actually spent a lot of time in the room on Monday, as I had some work to get done, so I did not opt to get housekeeping service on Monday. I was able to get right on the Wi-Fi network, but an app that I need to be able to use for work would not function using the hotel's Wi-Fi, so I had to go back to using my data, which was slightly disappointing. It was nice having a microwave and refrigerator/freezer in the room for storing and reheating take-out leftovers. Overall, my room was great. I used the pool one more time on Tuesday morning before checking out, and I again got it to myself the entire time, which was great! However, there were no pool towels available on Tuesday morning, and I told the front desk. They were going to send someone in with some fresh towels, and in the 45 minutes I spent swimming and using the hot tub, no towels had been brought, so I had to walk out wet to now get towels. I was checking out close to the 11:00 time to then continue my trip up towards Shawano. The morning clerk was also friendly and asked about my stay. Unfortunately, I did become ill later in the week on my trip, which forced me to go home a couple days early, but I was glad I was still well when in Portage! I would return to and recommend Best Western in Portage, and this is a nice hotel for the WI Dells area and reasonably priced for all it has to offer.
I definitely made the right decision to stay at this Best Western with my wife and two young kids. We were close to Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells without actually staying in the zoo. Everything was very clean and we had the pool and hot tub to ourselves on the 2nd night. The free continental breakfast had a lot of options and eggs and sausage both of our mornings. The staff was great too. There is a restaurant right next to the hotel. There are also numerous eating establishments near it, to include a Walmart and Walgreens. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to future visits. They also honored a discount for military service personnel. That brought the price down to under $100. For 2 nights with all taxes, it was $200. Take into consideration the free breakfasts for a family of 4 and it was a lot less.
Very nice hotel, sparkling clean with a good sized pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The room was spacious and had a separate vanity room fr the toilet shower. Honored the military discount too! Breakfast included sausage, eggs, waffles plus juices.
After a long day at great america, we were driving up to stay for a family party the next day. I called to let them know that we were stopping for dinner and then after that we had about a 2 hour drive to get there. They offered to check us in by 11pm if we hadn't arrived yet to speed up the process. We were traveling with a 6 year old that slept during the drive. When we arrived after 11pm, we were pleasantly surprised that we were checked in and the bedding we needed for the sofa sleeper was set out for us. It was great! We were able to check-in and get our daughter back to bed in less than 20 min. This was really important with the busy day we had that followed. Thank you to the night staff!
This was our first experience at a Best Western. We just needed a room on our way to our destination and booked at Best Western for the price. We were pleasantly surprised. The girl at the desk was very helpful and friendly. Our room was nice and clean. We appreciated the complimentary breakfast but would rate it as just okay.
Stayed here for a girls weekend. Upon arrival, front desk was super friendly & helpful ( quick too). Room was almost perfect. Hallway was super quiet at night, easy to fall asleep. Breakfast was well stocked although we did not eat as it wasn't really what we were looking for. Overall very pleasant stay!
If you intend to overnight in southern Wisconsin consider the Best Western in Portage. The prices are competitive, the facility is well kept and updated, the rooms are clean and well apportioned. The continental breakfast is excellent. We liked the prompt and personal attention of the staff. Overall, we had a quality overnight experience.
Rooms were well taken care of, the hotel was clean, staff were friendly, pool was clean, breakfast was great. One of the staff members went above and beyond at breakfast. We were the only ones in the eating area, so she switched the TV to cartoons for the kids, on two occasions. We would absolutely stay here again
Great hotel in Portage. Very friendly staff, clean rooms and nice pool with hot tub...only complaint was that the pool was cold as was the hot tub. Stayed in the king suite on the top floor...nice and quiet!
Hotel was the right choice for the night. Great location for where we needed to be with relaxing hot tub and pool. Even though it was going through some renovations, they had everything working and looking good.
We needed two rooms on 2/25/19 due to Interstate 39 being closed. Rooms were very clean, comfortable and the staff was very helpful. Wish I had brought my swimsuit!! There was even a wonderful restaurant right next door!!!
Stayed here last week for a business meeting. The hotel was large in size and very clean. Hotel staff was accommodating and helpful. Conference room was night and lunch was excellent. Would recommend again.
This hotel has a clean environment. The rooms are comfortable and Wi-Fi is available. Vending machines are nearby if you need/want a snack. There is also a restaurant just across the parking lot which makes additional meals handy. There is a pool and got tub (indoors). They also have a great continental breakfast.
Room nice & clean, everything worked. Bed nice, whirlpool great.Used pool and that area was nice and clean.check in & check out went well. Evening staff very helpful.Breakfast was good. Started nice and early at 6:00 am on a Sat as we needed to leave early. No issues with stay
Clean rooms. Decent breakfast. WiFi was able to keep up with out issue. Business center was very helpful, needed to type up something and look at online guidelines. There was a wind storm that blew off the roof of the lobby car port, not the hotels fault but made for an interesting morning surprise. I did not hear the wind inside my room, so that was a great plus.
We stayed here on a Sunday night, off season for most things, and had no issues with our night's stay. We got the whirlpool room (just because we could) and it was nice and relaxing. We will definitely be back if/when we're in the area again.
They need to have warmer blankets! The hotel was clean. The staff, pleasant. I booked a king and got two doubles. Not a big problem as we arrived late at night. NOT part of the hotel--the restaurant/bar in the parking lot closes early. We hope to have a night cap at 11:30. It was closed.
I stay at a a lot of Best Western properties and this location is very modern and well managed. Check in was a breeze. The lobby is a nice size with 2 couches that seat 6 right in front of the fire place. Breakfast was typical, not fancy, but many choices. The pool area is nice and there confernece room looked large. There was a wedding party taking place so I could only peek in quickly. Our King suite was very clean and spacious. The only minor disappointment was there are no USB charging ports in the room. It had everything else including a whirlpool tub, drink bar with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, iron, hair dryer, etc. Betty did a great job keeping up with the constant refilling of all the breakfast items. A very good worker. This is a nice property with good amenities at a very reasonable cost.
Clean, spacious suite with clearly separated living and sleeping spaces. Heat/cooling controls in each space. A little loud. Large whirlpool in sleeping space. Long service hours for typical continental breakfast. Tub drain doesn't seal well (posted same note in 2015 and hasn't changed). Nice overnight respite.
We came to ride the area bike trails. Bought food at the nearby Walmart for the daily back pack trips. Used the pool and hot tub after a long day of bike riding. That was nice. Hot breakfast before taking off on the ride also fit in nicely for us.
I spent just one night at this hotel. Nothing was very impressive, but I had a good stay. Room was very clean and well equipped. Very comfortable bed. Good complimentary amenities. Breakfast acceptable, but not really very good. The staff was friendly and professional. I would stay here again because of the good value for the money.
Very nice stay here. Internet worked great and the breakfast was perfect for us before we hit the road in the morning.Staff is very friendly, clean rooms. We have stopped here each summer for the past 4 years,
This hotel is a bit out of the way if you're traveling on I-90 as we were and booked online....not realizing that it was a few miles out. BUT it was worth it. We checked in late and were able to go straight to bed. The staff was nice. The beds were very comfortable. The shower was hot and breakfast was good. The room was notably clean as well! We were able to get rest, breakfast and fuel up and get back on the highway. We couldn't ask for more when it comes to a quick overnight stop! If we had to 'complain' its that the handicap accessible room we were in didn't have a tub, it was a walk-in shower and the water ran out into the floor. This cant be good for the floor or someone who needs this type of shower.
We recently stayed at Best Western Portage on a Saturday night for our annual summer weekend trip to Ho-Chunk/WI Dells. We had an excellent stay, and we would definitely consider trying here again for this trip in the future! We had stayed at this hotel before when it was newer, back in the mid-90s, but since then had gotten into the habit of staying in Baraboo or Reedsburg since those are slightly closer to Ho-Chunk without the crowds of WI Dells itself. We enjoyed coming back to Portage and this hotel, and this was as nice now as we remembered from about 1995 or 1997, whenever we stayed there last. The price was also VERY reasonable for a busy weekend in the WI Dells area. We had tried making the trip 2 weekends prior, but we tried making reservations too late, and every hotel was either sold out or wanted about $250-$300 for 1 night. We were happy we waited because we paid about $156 after tax and everything at this Best Western by doing a prepay option, and that seemed like a bargain for a WI Dells weekend! This is a nice place, too, on top of that, so we were very satisfied with that price. We arrived by about 3:15 on Saturday to check-in. The front desk woman was friendly, personable, and efficient. The check-in process was quick and easy, and we were soon on the way to our standard room with 2 queen beds on the 2nd floor. They do have 2 elevators side-by-side which helps, since the hotel has 5 floors. There were still times that the elevators could be very slow. Our room was very nice, and it was clean and comfortable. We found it a bit odd that the door was open slightly when we arrived, but it turned out that housekeeping had not finished replenishing rooms with towels and washcloths, as about 10 minutes later, a maid came to bring us those items. We had no complaints with the room, and it was great. Our room faced I-39, but traffic noises never seemed to be an issue for us. We ended up relaxing in the room for a while because my dad was having some issues with his legs after doing lots of walking the day before and earlier on Saturday at some of the other things we did. It was very hot and humid during our stay, so we were glad that the AC in our room was working effectively at cooling off the room, and it was not too noisy. This hotel is in a nice area of Portage, and we enjoyed taking a short walk in the area while Dad rested. We also used the fitness room for a while, and there was some nice equipment in there. The only issue with the fitness room is that it gets very hot because there is no AC unit in that room, and the ceiling is a glass sunroof. All they have in there to keep it cool is a very small oscillating fan, which did not do much to keep the room cool. The front desk keeps the key for the fitness room. We did enjoy getting a workout on the treadmills, though! There is a restaurant right across the parking lot from the hotel, but we had eaten a larger meal in Baraboo about 1 hour before checking in, so we were not in the mood to eat another large meal. We ended up just getting a sandwich at Subway later, on our way to Ho-Chunk Casino. We did spend some time at Ho-Chunk Casino later in the evening, and it was more of a drive with staying in Portage, but it still wasn't too bad. It was about a 25-minute trip each way. I don't really want to talk about how poorly I did at the casino, but this is not the hotel's fault! We were not getting back until about 12:30 in the morning, and we almost couldn't find a parking spot now with the hotel being booked, but we found one in back. There is plenty of lighting in their parking lot, so we felt safe upon arriving back this late. There was a group staying for some kind of a family reunion or party of some sort, and they were in the lobby at that late hour being kind of noisy, but we did not hear any noise from them back up in our room. We all went right to sleep when we got back, and our sleep quality here was great! The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable! We tried getting up at about 7:00 to go to breakfast but we were just too tired, so we ended up sleeping another hour. It was about 8:15-8:30 by the time we got down to breakfast then, and it was very crowded down there. We had a great breakfast, though, and I enjoyed the scrambled eggs, assorted pastries and muffins, English muffins for toasting, and the prepared oatmeal! We ended up sitting on the sofa and chairs near the pool because all the tables were occupied in the breakfast area. We did wish that guests would be more considerate and give up their tables if they are done eating and just sitting around talking, but again, this is not the fault of the hotel. Before getting ready to go, we did use the indoor pool and whirlpool on Sunday morning, and this was enjoyable! We love how this partially has a sunroof, too, so the beautiful sun can shine in. The hot tub was very relaxing, and the pool was spacious and nice for swimming some laps. We needed to share the area with other families and groups, but it is a large pool area. We were checking out by about 10:30, and I was asked how everything was by the friendly morning clerk. We would definitely return and recommend, and we just might have to start staying in Portage more for our Ho-Chunk/Dells weekends! There is also a Walmart conveniently located right up the street for any needs, and we stopped in after checking out, for some bottled water. We enjoyed Best Western Portage, and this was a great hotel!
Staff was extremely accommodating to my family and I traveling from Ohio. My four year old was very tired when we got to town, well before standard check in time. Michelle was very helpful and was able to find us a room to check into early so we could make my child comfortable. All staff was very accommodating. Beds were comfortable, shower was hot, and the room was clean! My toddler enjoyed the pool, which was a good temperature. Having a restaurant sharing a parking lot with the hotel was very convenient. It's very close to a Kwik Trip and Walmart as well. We will definitely be staying again as we frequently visit family in the portage area.
We were very impressed with this hotel. the staff was very nice. The rooms were clean and very nice and the beds were super comfortable. The breakfast was great, so many choices. Great lounge to have a family group gathering
I've stayed at this location regularly the past 10 years or so. I have family in the surrounding area and there aren't a lot of hotel options nearby. I'd stayed at other hotels in Portage and found the BW to be the best option (cleanest, quietest etc.) in town. The location is very convenient. There is a restaurant right in the same parking lot which is good & there's a gas station / Wal-Mart very close as well. Rooms at the hotel are clean. They have a refrigerator (with very small freezer) and microwave in the room. The mattress & pillows are just ok but that's also personal preference. We stayed on the 5th floor facing the rear lot (away from the highway) & there is a long shared patio with the other rooms on the floor. It's nice, but if I was traveling on my own I might like it less for safety reasons. The breakfast in the morning & hit or miss. I've stayed and it's been very good with scrambled eggs, sausage etc. for warm options in addition to the make your own waffles & pastries etc. This stay they only had hard boiled eggs and biscuits/gravy which wasn't very satisfying. Check in/out was very fast & efficient.
Great stay. Had to take an online exam for a class and the internet was actually fast!! I was worried about connectivity and kicking me off mid-exam but went very well and passed! Room was very clean.
If your looking for an average hotel this would fit the bill. Breakfast was typical continental breakfast... Hasn't been up dated in a while, but is clean and staff was friendly. I'd stay there again.
This hotel goes a step above. We stayed one night. But we were in the area early in the morning ,we decided to see if we could check in early. They were very friendly and allowed us a early check in. The rooms were very clean as well as the bathroom. The breakfast the following morning was well stocked and good.
Was a last minute decision for a quick stop while traveling. Room was very clean and quiet. Fitness center was clean and breakfast was great. Really enjoyed the sausage and eggs, along with the salsa, cheese, and hot sauce. One elevator was down when I arrived late in the evening, but was back up and working in the morning. A good stay and worth the stop.
We chose to stay here on our recent trip to Wisconsin Dells. The rates here were much better than what was available in the Dells area, very much worth the 25 minute drive to Portage. Our kids loved the pool! The rooms were very clean and suprisingly quiet on a busy Saturday night. The breakfast was very good as well. We will definitely consider staying here again!
Love Best Western we stay alit at this one in particular because it's close to a major airport, restaurants, shopping you name it, the pool and hot tub is amazing makes you feel like your in another country on a beach
Very nice rooms, spotless, quiet, so nice. Price was a bargain. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly but also seemed to know that we needed to just be left to our own conversation most of the time. Picked this hotel totally at random and it turned out to be the best decision of the whole trip.
This was an excellent place to stay in a great spot. there was a very nice restaurant right across the parking lot. The lobby has a nice bar with a great breakfast in the morning. The coffee was just perfect - tasted better than at home.
We recently held a convention at this hotel; the facility was nice and the staff amazing. They were friendly and very helpful, I don't think our time there could have been more pleasant. Nothing but positive comments from our attendees as well. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to host an event such as ours. Many thanks for your hard work and cheerful smiles.
Headed to northern Wisconsin and needed a place to stay overnight on the way up. Not much available in the area due to the season and being close to the dells. Check in was smooth and welcoming. The room was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was cramped, due to a local softball tournament, but it was good . Quick check out and on our way. Will stay here again.
We stayed 2 nights with a large group of families. Checkin went smoothly. Went to our room to find dirty sheets that had various spots of blood and crustations. The floors were also not very clean. We went down to the front desk who asked if we would like another room? Well of course we do! Luckily we were put in another room still close to the other families in our group. Not wanting to make a big deal in-front of our group, I waited until the next day to talk to the manager. She was not available so I explained our situation to the front desk staff who looked in here computer which showed no one in our new room. She was unsure what the staff did the night before but could not do anything until she figured that out and would need to call the manager. I checked back later to find out that she could not do anything for us and the manager would have to take care of it. The staff at this hotel were not very helpful or pleasant to say the least. The kids were “warned” numerous times to settle down. Hotel staff were out back smoking numerous times with the phone ringing and people waiting to check in. Stay away from this place.
The pool was about 85?. The hot tub was about 103?. Very nice atmosphere and again the continental breakfast was the best we've ever had. They were nice enough to call us and tell us we left something in the Room and said they would hold on to it for us until we came back through the following weekend. Thank You!!
This is a very good hotel run well, Dawn the manager does a great job it's always clean and presentable, good check in experience, they retain the staff here telling me it's well run I stay here when ever in area, the price has been creeping up in recent stays but probably due to demand
overall experience was very good. have stay at this hotel several times. will be back again. rooms are a great value. employees are always friendly and helpful. this was the first time in many stays that the rooms cleanliness was sub standard.
The check in/out procedures are quick. The lobby and rooms were clean and had available internet. A vending area is found on each floor with adequate snacks and beverages. There is a pool for those that swim. They have a great variety of food for their continental breakfast and a friendly/helpful staff.
Hotel staff wasn't to friendly, nor were they ever present at the desk. Also breakfast was sub-par if your good with yokey-bagged eggs, and microwaved in bulk sausage. The room and pool were great and the rest of my experience was great, just those few complaints, more so comments to hopefully better the business.
Had a great time staying at this Best Western in Portage, WI. I was here for a convention and could not have planned a better stay. The staff were very knowledgeable, kind, and always there to please. The manager and staff made my stay a pleasure and would tell everyone to stay here. Clean and comfortable rooms. No complaints great time.
clean, excellent value, great breakfast/assortment, good looking fitness and pool area. Comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. Great restaurant adjacent to their location. When ever visiting the WI Dells area, we stay here.
I travel extensivey...a nice place...I have stayed in Portage...often...my first time...a very welcoming...exceptional quality...yet...affordable...Brooke...was so customer oriented and helpful when I called...I had reserved 5 rooms...this place is a plus!!!
I love this hotel and the entire staff. It is always my first choice to stay at when I am in the area or surrounding area. From the room to lobby and even breakfast it is always exceptional service and great food
Too soft bed. Worn thin as toilet paper sheets. Sorry pillows that should have been thrown away long ago. Dated furnature, small flat screen tv, not worth the price. No smoking room with cigarette burn on edge of bathtub. We do not plan on stasying here again
I booked my room directly with Best Western on line while traveling. It was a good thing I did because they were sold out when we checked in. There were a lot of work trucks and men hanging around in the parking lot drinking beer. They weren't rowdy and I didn't feel threatened because I was with my husband but would have been a little uncomfortable if I would have been alone. It took a while for check in because the clerk was taking a reservation over the phone. She apologized for the wait and was very friendly and helpful. At first she couldn't find my reservation which made me a little nervous. She said it had been a very busy day. We were assigned room 520. The room was large with a couch, mini fridge, microwave and coffee pot. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were small. There was an extra blanket in the dresser which is nice. Some rooms on the 5th floor have balconies- but our room didn't. There is a separate sink area with wood look floors next to the bathroom. This is a great area for putting on make up or brushing your teeth and not getting in the way of the person taking a shower or using the bathroom. We walked next door to Suzy's Steak & Seafood for supper. It is a very nice restaurant and so nice not having to get back in the car to find a place to eat for the night. The Express Check-out receipt was slipped under our door during the night so a call to the front desk is all that is needed.
Needed a hotel for one night, and stop at the Best Western (our typical preferred hotel). It was very nice - nothing super impressive, but clean and quiet. The staff was friendly and professional. Lots of families were there, and we didn't hear the noise of children at all - very good night's sleep.
Staff was courteous and friendly, hotel clean, breakfast very good. Everyone was extremely helpful and nice. Breakfast varies daily with nice selection. Pool and hot tub had correct chlorine level and pool area very nice.
Staff very friendly. My husband takes his nightly meds with milk, we got in late and forgot to stop and get some, the gal who checked us in got a glass for him, but got busy with other customers. By the the time we got our bags she was waiting to catch us before we went to our room, much appreciated. Hot breakfast everyday, very good
Last minute we were able to get a room and were glad we did. The room was clean and the beds were clean and comfortable. Had a tasty breakfast so no need to go to a restaurant. We recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
This was the only place available nearby, so we booked it. It is an older BW but it was very nice. Very clean throughout. Our room was very large and comfortable. The breakfast was just ideal and the pool was very refreshing.
It is a great place to stay. The amenities are great and it's not too far from Wisconsin Dells. The pool area is very open lots of windows to the outside so you can swim in the sun if it is shining.Everyone is nice and does a good job at customer courtesy and going out of their way to make you feel good.
The hotel was very clean! Great friendly staff. We wanted to go to the dells but not pay the expensive resort prices since we didn't have the kids this time. The suite was a great price and the Jacuzzi was a bonus.
Tonya was wonderful at the front desk. Friendly and efficient even though she was quite busy. She set the tone for our stay. Room was clean and comfortable--I really liked the pillows!! Great lobby area, spa, sauna and pool with extended hours. Betty did a tremendous job of breakfast prep and hostess--she kept food and drink replenished and area clean--all through the busy times. Definitely recommend this Best Western.
This was my first stay at a Best Western, I honestly was expecting average to low quality and was pleasantly surprised! The room was very comfortable and had more than I could ask for. The breakfast was a little bonus, I wish there were more healthy items that are vegan and fresh fruit etc but overall cannot complain. I would definitely stay again.
My husband and I stayed here. The staff was friendly and gave a wonderful dinner recommendation that suited us...Hitching Post. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was awesome. We will definitely be staying here when we come back to Portage. The rooms are good size and will work for our family of four to stay in. The location was easily accessible as well.
Property has been spiffed (painted, general maintenance, etc) . Staff has always been great. Breakfast has also been upgraded (quality & selection of items). Most important - they never ran out of coffee.
Clerks very courteous room/bathroom very clean! Zero mold! They didn't mind giving extra towels! Always smiling always helpful! 2nd shift clerk did not mind getting dirty checking dryer just Awesome!!!
first of all i was booked on the 3 floor not good. cause i have a disabitly . but brook put me on the 1st floor . over all my first visit in the town . was very helpful and caring and gave me a very warm feeling .were i will be back
The staff were kind and helpful. The breakfast was great and the lady working it did a great job! Enjoyed the pool. Stayed 5 nights with our family of 12 and was a great stay. It was conveniently located. Just about twenty minutes from the Wisconsin Dells. Would book that hotel again when in the area.
Excellent service with booking rooms and rates for a family group attending a Birthday Party. Good location and nice facility. There were lots of guests during breakfast, but the staff were able to keep things stocked and cycle us all through. Great swimming pool if you have time to use it.
We stayed one night for a VB tournament. Wasn't really sure about this place but glad I booked it. It's a straight fast shot to the Dome at the Dells - bypassing all that Dells traffic. Even though it was farther away it was quicker to get there vs. some of the Dells resorts on a busy day. The place is very clean and the room was great. Plenty of room to move about. The beds were some of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept on (sturdy but pillow soft) - beds you would expect at a $500 a night resort (next night stayed at Kalahari - beds way too soft and flimsy). The breakfast was good but not great - what I would expect from most free breakfasts. When we first got there all the eggs and sausage was out which is all I eat. I had to go complain to the front desk. The main lady said she just got there and within minutes restocked everything. There is a Walmart just a couple blocks away - very convenient. I got a good deal on a Saturday night but even at their normal going rate I would recommend this place. Nothing fancy but a great stay.
Great place to stay. Kids had a great time in the pool. Nice and clean rooms. Too noisy from plumbing noise but that might have been because of the location of the room. The breakfast was excellent a good variety to choose from.
A great location no matter what direction you're heading. Great hotel to stop, rest and unwind. The front desk crew is so nice and helpful, the rooms are clean and super comfortable! They have am awesome pool/ hot tub area and a workout room too! A great restaurant within walking distance too. After relaxing watching some tv and a great nights rest you can enjoy a wonderful breakfast. Scrambled eggs, ham, cheeses, salsa to put on. Oatmeal bar with almonds, brown sugar craisins , waffles bar with fruit toppings...oj coffee. Great way to start the day!
Average hotel, average staff. Internet is blocked to normal sites for watching TV & movies but the adult sites are not blocked. You would think it would be the other way around. Breakfast was outstanding!
We were only in Portage for one night, and were pleased to find such a nice place to stay. The hotel has been undergoing some renovations, so our room felt up-to-date. Everything was clean and well-stocked, and bed was comfortable. The hotel sits quite close to the interstate, but is situated so that none of the rooms face the traffic. Our room was nice and quiet. We did not use the pool, but it appeared to be clean and well maintained. We did use the exercise room, which has a range of machines and equipment normally seen in larger hotels. The free wifi was reliable and adequate, and the free breakfast got our morning off to a good start. The hotel shares a parking lot with a steak house - we didn't eat there but it was nice to know it was available.
Came here with a soccer team. Staff was very accommodating. Good bed, clean room and quick elevators. The only blemish was there was a pair of black shorts found in the corner by the heater (although it blended into the corner a bit). Did not have a chance to go in pool area, but looked nice. Thought the breakfast was one of the best I've been to in a chain restaurant. Very clean, well-stocked and had a good variety. For the price, this hotel was A+ value.
Nice clean room. Comfortable bed. Very good breakfast. Staff was very friendly. Check in and out was no problem. Room smelled a little "smokie". Very close to many restaurants and stores. I would stay there again.
place was awesome...pool was perfect hot tub could have had more jets but other than that the place was exactly what we needed and the location was just off the highway easy on and off. very friendly service and rooms were neat and clean and bed was comfortable..
Pleased with this Best Western Hotel. Was headed to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. I needed a quiet hotel that I wouldn't break the bank. Food was good and room was cleaned. Great Mexican Restaurant on the other side of freeway.
I stayed here for 3 nights while I was working night shifts. I drove an extra half hour to work because this place had the nicest rooms in the area at a good rate. The bed was so clean and fluffy, the bathroom was gleaming with a real granite counter. And the room was perfectly quiet inside all the while. On top of that, the staff was kind and welcoming. I couldn't have been more comfortable.
Superior service at a great price. The employees were outstanding and went the extra mile to provide additional service. The breakfast was terrific and the the server was more than helpful. Thank you.Great job.
Check in was a snap, very friendly front desk. Could hear the room next to me but overall not bad for the price. Located right near where I had to go the next day, also town was not far to go get something to eat so you can't beat that.
Rooms not as clean as in the past Late night check in is slow sometimes nobody by desk for quite some time Good beds very comfy Good breakfast always warm good selection Daytime staff always good night time after 8 pm diferant on mondays
Clean, well appointed room. Very comfortable in extremely cold weather (8 degrees). Happy to recommend to everyone. Breakfast was very good and included scrambled eggs and sausage links. Breakfast service was friendly and efficient.
Our daughter had a basketball tournament at JustaGame field house early on Sunday morning. We didn't want to pay Dell's pricing for a one night stay so we found this nice option less than 20 mins from the field house. Newly remodeled rooms were very nice. Kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Great pizza not to far away at Mama Mias. Breakfast was as expected for continental style. Front desk staff was the friendliest of any hotels we have stayed. Great option for an affordable stay close to the Dells.
Great staff and cleanliness of Hotel while staying. First time was during near-blizzard conditions, 2nd was on a normal business trip. Friendly, helpful and courteous staff. "Two-Thumbs-UP"! Coffee always hot and within walking distance of great restaurant and just off Highway.
The hotel served it's purpose, it was clean & comfortable & was happy with the complementary breakfast. Easy to get onto freeway. It was close to good restaurants & shopping. We had a family thing in Pardeeville so wasn't too far to drive to.
The staff was nice, room was ok. We were put in a handicap room so the shower was not made for us. The paint was peeling and chipping in the bathroom. Overall good rooms for the price. Right off the highway.
The experience was amazing as always We always have a excellent when staying with the Best Western in Portage. We will be back and one of our primary places of residence. The staff is as friendly and pleasant as you can ask
Dawn runs a great hotel, excellent value for what you get, always very clean, great service and a great hot breakfast. Exercise room is decent better than most hotels of this price range, nice pool room also.
I would have given this place 0 stars if I could. When I got to my room it smelled bad but I didn't think to much of it. I then went to get into bed and when I flipped my pillow over I saw lipstick on it. (not a stain but actually lipstick that had never been washed off from the guest before me) when I went to get new sheets the front desk lady was rude and didn't seem to think I should be discussed by used sheets. I was put up in this hotel by my work along with some co-workers. I mentioned my unclean room to them and found that my co-worker found a note in his sheets that said "if you're reading this your sheets haven't been washed." The dirty sheets weren't the only bad thing. when I grabbed a towel after I had showered I noticed a blood stain on the towel.
When you first pull up to this hotel it looks a little old and worn. It's slathered in a yellow paint and the building looks old. The lobby seemed reasonably newer and clean but some of the guest side entrances are a little rough looking, stained ceiling tiles, dirty floors etc. However the room itself was rather modern and updated. The furniture was all newer and everything was clean. The carpets looked a little old and maybe in need of replacement, but they weren't disgusting or thinning.
I stayed at this hotel for business several times and have always enjoyed excellent service from the staff, beautiful clean rooms with very comfortable beds and furniture. The fitness and pool area is more than adequate for the end of day exercise and work outs. I also enjoy the breakfast offerings as they are both wholesome and have lots of variety for those with specials dietary needs. Definitely a great place to stay.
Had a very nice stay at this motel . Great rooms , pool area , and breakfast . The motel was very clean and well maintained . I would not hesitate to tell others to stay here as it is a great place with a very good rate .
The rooms are clean and adequately sized - ok but nothing special. Breakfast was limited. the hott dish was biscuits and gravy - in Wisconsin? Best thing hotel has is Suzy's restaurant across the parking lot for dinner.
Nice hotel in great location for this small Wisconsin Town. The staff was friendly; the breakfast left a bit to be desired; the rooms are spacious and well kept. Suzy's across the parking lot provides easy access to reasonable dining.
Overall an average place. The room had a musty odor but after running the fan for awhile it was better. The room has a nice fan that can run continually and provide good white noise. Just average in terms of cleanliness. Shower curtain was musty and stained at the bottom. One of the drawers in the nightstand was pretty dirty with dirt and long hair. Kinda gross. Comfortable bed. Pool was average size but perfect for younger kids. Also a hot tub and sauna. Continental breakfast in the morning was decent. Baked pastries, waffle maker, eggs. Overall just okay. Could've been tidier but I don't think there's really much else in the area so if we had to we would stay again.
My family & I stayed a Friday & Saturday night in August. The hotel is right off I-39 about 15-20 minutes from the Dells. The man at the front desk who checked us in was kind of gruff and quirky at check in but efficient. When I later asked if I could ask him a question, he replied "I suppose so." He then did answer the question. The hotel is 5 stories and has a pool and workout room. The workout room had two treadmills, an elliptical, a recumbent bike and a weight machine. The front doors of the hotel do not open automatically so if you have a lot of luggage you may struggle a bit. Swallows have built mud nests attached to the eaves below the 5th floor balconies (see pictures). As a result, bird poop is on each window of all the lower 4 floors of the hotel wing that face I-39. I did not park along the hotel due to the bird droppings. The room was a little more spacious than the average hotel room. It was clean. Everything worked well. The room had two double beds with 4 pillows each. The beds were comfortable and the room quiet despite a wedding being held in the hotel. There was a microwave and refrigerator in the room. The TV was a 32-inch flat screen with many cable channels. The towels were kind of cheap and scratchy- I assume a low thread count. The hotel had a good breakfast which consisted of juice, coffee, cereal, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, sweet rolls, yogurt, fruit and waffles. There was no meat on Saturday but scrambled eggs & sausages on Sunday morning. The hotel is no luxurious but was a good value for the area. I'd stay there again.
Our bathroom still had the last occupants hair stuck to the shower wall, if it had not been 11:00 at night, I would have requested a different room. Shower grout was also dirty & nasty, whirlpool tub looked filthy and couldn't imagine anyone using it. Water pressure very poor and the cheapest excuse for soap & shampoo that I've ever seen - BW seems to be cutting a lot of corners
Amenities were good but it's location is not good. Very far, i.e 20 miles from the main city. No restaurants or shopping areas were close by. Breakfast is included so it's a plus factor. Toilet was very very old fashioned.
We stayed here during the International Edsel Club Rally. The staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and well kept. The breakfast was good, but seating was a bit limited. Not much area in the lobby to gather with friends. Overall it was a good experience.
We were there for an Edsel convention. We couldn't ask for better service and location. It was so cool to see all our Edsel signs and all the great cars parked in the parking lot. I think there were over 50 cars and the staff made sure we had a space for every one of them.
We stayed for several nights and everything went perfectly. The hotel was clean and neat and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast was great and the internet speed was excellent. If I ever stay in Portage again, I will definitely stay here!!
We needed to stay in the Wisconsin Dells because of a sports tournament. We were hoping to find a close, clean, quiet, family place that was affordable. We found it! Even though the hotel was full, our room was very quiet both nights we stayed. The breakfast was great, the beds were comfortable, and the price was very reasonable! The only issues we had were were very minor: the internet in the room was a bit inconsistent and there was a dirty spot on the bedskirt. The hotel is an easy 15 minute drive to the Dells. It was great to be in the Dells during the day, then escape from the hustle and bustle for a comfortable night of rest. We will be back the next time we're in the area!
We decided to stay right outside the Dells since we were driving 6 hours to get here that day. Didn't want to waste a night in town at weekend prices when we wouldn't be here a lot. Swam in the pool and ordered Pizza Ranch for dinner. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was included the next morning. It was just what we needed to start our trip off right. I highly recommend it'
It is a fairly nice budget hotel. The options in town are limited so definitely stay here. There is a pool and fitness center along with a free breakfast. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. Due to limited hotels this place books up really quick.
The front desk was not very helpful or friendly and the breakfast area was too crowded to eat in. We ended up going to Mcdonald's which was bout 5 blocks away. It is located pretty far from anywhere but it was very quiet.
normally a nice hotel to stay at while enjoying the waterparks at the dells, this stay was not good due to elevators and phones down. staff did not inform me and my family of 5 of this before our arrival, nor were we offered a discount on our stay. climbing up stairs with bad knees and luggage for a weekend stay is difficult.
The hotel staff was very friendly!!But this property lacked so much. First and foremost upon check in I was told the hotel was struck by lightening so they were having some issues and The elevators did NOT work. The room was nice but the beds were not comfortable at all!! We then realized another issue they were having is the phone in the room was not working either so we had to travel up and down the stairs to talk to the front desk (they did end up giving us an alternate number to dial from our personal phone) I had a 3 night stay and spent most of my time out of the room, expecting to come back to the room to "some form of a turndown service" bed made, fresh towels, trash removed but instead returned to the room the same way I left it! So I spoke with the front desk about "turndown services" and was told housekeeping might have overlooked us and we got an apology but still no turndown service. Our last night in the room housekeeping came in and literally threw the sheets and blanket on the beds (the beds were made 2 different ways) and they took the wet towels but did not leave any clean towels. With all the issues that were going on And all of the inconvenience you would think best western would have tried to make our stay pleasant but honestly I wouldn't stay again and I do feel like I should have gotten a discount with all that went wrong with my stay.
This is probably one of the best budget-type hotels I have ever stayed in. I don't know if the difference was that we got the jacuzzi suite or what. Our room was great, smelled great, was clean and had a fridge and microwave, two tvs (though one didn't work) a couch area and the bedroom area. The shower worked great, the tub worked great. Breakfast was great with a big variety, the only bad part was that it was crowded all the time at breakfast. Staff was friendly, check in and out was easy and fast. The best part is we paid about $100 less for our two night stay here, 15 miles from Wisconsin Dells and got the fancy room, than we would have paid at the freakin Super 8 in Wisconsin Dells, so great value. Would stay here again for sure if we ever go back. There's also a lot in Portage near the hotel for food and supplies. Wal Mart is around the corner, a Kwik Trip and plenty of fast food, etc.
This is my first time stay at Best Western Resort and my stay has been tuff from the beginning. I book online and the online said there would be no deposite charge on my card. Thursday the day before we were due to come they take one night off my card. I call and talk to a worker who explain that this was just to hold the room no charge was made. I said ok usually they put the hold on the day of, not before, she explain because of the holiday. I told her that should have been display online when booking a room. Got they the hotel everything was fine and at check-in because we paid cash for one night that they would not take anything off my card until check-out, I reply ok. Well, out enjoying my vacation only to get a texts from my bank that they have taking two nights off my card. I was pissed, because the man said they was not going to take nothing off my card. The elevators and phones are not working no one has bother to accommodate us at all. No one inform us that the phones was not working we find that out on our own, but you are taking money off my card like crazy. Very dissatisfy with my stay and will not be returning back!
Nice hotel with easy access. Restaurant next door and nice selection for breakfast. Pool was great for our son. You will notice the birds and their droppings on the ground and car when you arrive. Plan to wash your car when you leave. Otherwise, this is a very nice place to stay with really friendly people.
Always get a great value with an exceptional room, good hot breakfast with many choices included! Dawn and her staff do a great job! The location is handy to the Interstate system close to Wisconsin Dells to the North and Madison to the south
fun place with a great breakfast. we enjoyed the view and nice sized pool and we had it all to ourselves. awesome waffles for breakfast. five floor even has patios. no sausage or bacon but good yogurt choices
Great staff, very updated and clean room. Nice tiled room entry/bathroom area. Remarkably clean and tidy. With very few places to stay in the area, I didn't expect it to be so nice. I figured with little competition, there would be no incentive for these upgrades and out-of-the-ordinary friendly service. I was wrong. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.
stayed here fro a quick nights sleep prior to a meeting. very easy to locate, rooms very clean, comfy bed. very satisfied, would highly recommend. pool area looked nice. fitness area a bit scant on equipment, would like to see some weights. nice frontage road for a quick jog.
Hard to find, but worth the trouble. Best quality and price on my 5-day trip from NY to Minneapolis. Friendly staff. Pool. Hot tub. Good breakfast. My goal in Portage was to explore Fort Winnebago and the canal connecting the Fox River to the Wisconsin. The staff knew about this vaguely, but printed material in the lobby took care of my needs.
We stayed at the hotel for two nights. It was very cheap($151). It was also very pleasent and the staff were very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean as well as the lobby and pool area. The breakfast was pretty good, 4/5 maybe. I would definintly like to see a bigger bathroom/bathroom area but otherwise it was good. I would reccommend this hotel.
Great room, very clean, spacious and modern. The hotel was clean, quiet and the staff was very nice. The hotel is well managed and I recommend a stay to anyone for business or leisure. It is apparent the management and staff take pride in their hotel and operations.
This hotel was easy to get to. Easy check in and we ended up staying an extra night without any issues of a stay over. The staff was courteous, helpful and housekeeping left a hand written note (it was nice over a pre-printed card) in the room. The room itself was larger than I expected and the decor was taken care of. The water was hot on demand (nice compared to another hotel we stayed at in an other city the night before). Breakfast was also hot with a great assortment. We utilized the pool, hot tub and sauna as well. We will stay here again next time we are in Portage. The only downfall was due to the doors being heavy, people allowed them to slam which woke us (but that isn't the hotels fault!).
Stayed here in March with a few friends for a weekend. Had an overall good time. Room was great, housekeeping services was great, breakfast was great, and the lady at the desk, Dawn, EXCELLENT. She was informative, friendly, willing to help if there was an issue. Other staff at the desk, need to take lessons because this lady was doing whatever was needed to make sure ALL guests were happy. I would stay again with her working. Overall, the room was very clean, ALOT of selection for breakfast, and housekeeping didn't bother me with a do not disturb on my door, but they were VERY friendly in and around the hotel. They say "good morning" and " hi how are you" which makes a day go good.
Enjoyed a relaxed environment with clean and comforting rooms. The amenities are very nice with extremely helpful and happy employees. Breakfast was warm and satisfying with plenty of choices. The fitness center was clean with nice equipment and the pool was very warm and inviting. I enjoyed my home away from home.
The stay was great from beginning to end. We stayed at another property just built, in the area and it was terrible. We were hoping this would be different. We were so glad this was our choice. We will never look at any other hotels in the area. This will be our on-going choice.
Stayed here for ski race weekend - full hotel - room etc are good - would have had no complaints but the heater wasn't working. First night with my 11 year old son cuddling for warmth. A very thin blanket on the bed. We had to leave very early so got back on Saturday and room was cold. They came to check heating - told us to move to another room. Moved to other room with better heater that worked. They told me would give me discount off room. Got the bill in the morning and no discount on it. Asked the front desk and told me $25 off. She said she couldn't authorize more without general managers agreement. Got call later that General manager agreed to $30 off total. I later heard from other guests that they were in rooms with no heat. So this hotel put people and young families up in rooms knowing the heaters were not working in some rooms. Temperatures dropped below 20 degrees - they were lucky that it didn't drop lower. So the only thing left to do is make complaint and leave review here. I would otherwise recommend staying there as its close to cascade mountain. But would be worried that they would give room with no heat again. I would have expected to give one night off considering we spent night with no heat and also for the inconvenience of moving. They could have easily avoided bad review.
I was at the Best Western for a ski event. The room was clean, everything worked. Breakfast was good. Never spoke to any employees except on check in. All was well. No issues! Suzy's steak restaurant across the parking lot was very handy.
We stayed at the Best Western overnight for our ski trip. The staff was very nice and the hotel clean. We brought our own food and were able to store it in the fridge in the bedroom. The people at the counter let us eat at the cafeteria at night and we could use the microwave there. We will definitely come back.
I was at the Best Western because of a ski fest at nearby Cascade Mountain. I was registered for two night but injured my knee on Saturday. I checked out of the hotel before 4:00 PM and never used the room but they still charged me for the second night and did not care that I had to leave early because of my injury. At other hotels I stayed at they will not charge you for the room if you notify them by 4:00 PM. Not the case with this Best Western.
Room was decent. However, our heating system did not work. A staff member came in and it took about about 30 minutes for us to get "warm" air. The first minutes it was ice cold air (We stayed during winter, so heat is a must!). The heating system still did not work properly. Room was not heated. Room was clean. Beds and pillows really uncomfortable. Lady at the front described them as "either you hate them or you love them", which i thought it was a highly unprofessional comment. The woman was not dressed properly which was disappointed. I know this is not a 5 star hotel, but professional attire should be wore. Breakfast was good. Extremely noisy!!!! There were a bunch of kids running around pass 9 pm. Hotel staff did not do anything. It was BEYOND DISRUPTIVE. Despite calls to ask to keep it down, it was not until about 12.30 that the noise stopped. Definitely not worth the money. Its unfortunate that these issues could have been solved by a staff member, but their carelessness was stronger than their good service policy. Would not go back.
On our way to Minnesota, Thursday, December 23, 2015, we stopped here for one night's stay. After some confusion as to what room we were assigned, we asked for something quiet where no one was above us. We were reassigned to the third floor far from the elevator. There was signs of renovations in the rooms near us - blue tape around white doors with no security card locks or knobs. We noticed the bed sheets were thin and had seen years of use, but they appeared clean. The next morning, I noticed a brown shell (exoskeleton), like a dried flake of blood, of something in the bed but didn't think much of it and flicked it on the floor. I've never seen a bed bug or had any experience with them until now to be suspicious. The next morning, Friday, December 24, 2015, we packed up and were on our way. Not until we checked into the next hotel that night and undressed to shower did we notice that we both had over 30 angry, raised bites on our bodies, most on our arms and some on our hands and necks. We immediately called the Best Western and informed them that they had a bed bug infestation in our room on the 3rd floor (I think it was room #316). They were to check and call us back, but we still haven't heard from them. We looked online and saw a report of bed bugs at the same hotel in May 11, 2015. If I had seen that review, I wouldn't have booked in this hotel. They obviously didn't fix the problem then and aren't addressing my complaint now. I get more angry as each day passes and more bites manifest - we're now past 50 bites each everywhere. Again, some internet research informs us that more will continue to manifest this week. We now have everything in garbage bags sitting out on our balcony waiting for several zero degree days to kill the bed bugs on everything that can't go into scalding hot water in the washer and high temps in the dryer. This hotel ruined our Christmas!
When we were going to Minneapolis from Pennsylvania ,We've been looking for the right place to stay near our friend house in Portage and we've found this Best Western Motel. It's not happened often that you run across something that ends up really giving you more and best for your money, but this hotel certainly does. The out look and apperance is fresh and up to date and the rooms are large, extremely comfortable, and just right for relaxation after drove long miles.service, hospitality, friendliness and nice breakfast All this for a price that can't be beat. We'll be back from now on every time we come to the this area. Our stay was very very comfortable here on 5th floor having a pleasant and calm view Stayed October 2015, traveled with friends
I wanted to give this hotel a better rating. However there were a couple things that prevented me from doing that. The good: The room was great, clean, and bed was comfortable. The bad: The reason I picked this hotel was for the pool. I really wanted to go swimming. However the pool was freezing. I couldn't even get in up to my knees. Thought ok, I'll try the sauna…not working. The hot tub was nice and I used the work out room. The woman at the front desk said the pool should be at 84 degrees. Well 84 degrees is actually pretty cold for a pool. Hope they fix this situation.
The hotel was clean, offered a good breakfast and had friendly staff. Next time, I would check if the pool was under maintenance before registering, though, as I was unable to take a morning swim because of it. (I stayed on a Sunday night.) Hotel is located in a quiet area and a seemingly safe location close to the highway. Easy on and off.
This hotel was much better than what me, and my boyfriend expected. The only thing i did not like much was the bathroom. The bathroom was clean, but very small, and the tub was big... almost too big for the bathroom. Other than that the hotel is nice and clean, the staff were nice, and friendly as well. The drive to Wisconsin dells was pretty long about 30min for that reason this is not not the best location, but as long as you have a car you will be fine!
Pool and sauna not working,, computer was moved to no one knows where, and the breakfast was ok. Stayed here before and it was great with great breakfast with eggs and good coffee(long ago). Now there is no hot food except make your own waffles. If I didnt know better I would say this hotel will not be here much longer. They seem to be cutting back on everything. Room was ok but the toilet seat made a god awful noise when you tried to sit on it. Needs fixing. Bed was good.
The rooms are nice. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is horrible. Best part of hotel is Suzy's resturant across the parking lot from the hotel. Only selected this hotel because of the resturants close by. It's ok for place to rest for the night.
We've been looking for the right place to stay now that we have a friend who lives in the area and we've definitively found it. It's not often that you run across something that ends up truly giving you more for your money, but this hotel certainly does. The ambience and décor is fresh and up to date and the rooms are large, extremely comfortable, and just right for relaxation. All this for a price that can't be beat. We'll be back from now on every time we come to the Portage area. Our only complaint had to do with the technology....the fancy schmancy television was so complicated that it took a call to the friendly person at the front desk to come help us fiddle with it. (Perhaps they need hire a teenager to be on staff just for problems like this!!)
One of 11 motels we stayed in on 2 week trip. Clean room, comfortable bed, and friendly staff. Convenient to surrounding places of interest. Good value for travel. Would stay here again. Easy driving distance to other cities.
We have friends in the area and this is where we stay while visiting. Rooms have always been nice. We will be booking with them again shortly. There is a good restaurant right across the parking lot as well.
It's a nice place, however if your traveling South, it's hard to find. You exit like it tells you to. Signs tell you to turn left, however after that you don't see it on the main drag. I finally found it behind the Walmart. They need a sign out on the main drag to tell you to turn again. Over all pretty good place.
We were on vacation in the Dells and stayed in Portage for the cheaper hotel and the escape for the busy Dells. BIG mistake. Portage has very few restaurants. The hotel rooms were good and comfortable. The elevator filthy wouldn't think that vacuuming it would be all that difficult. Cable tv did not work and front desk did not seem to want to accommodate a move or repair. But the Pool OMG!! The water is so merky that you can't see the bottom, there was algae growing near the steps. It is very obvious that the pool hasn't been cleaned in a long time, and the hot tub was not any better. I went to the front desk to state my discussed with the pool and they acted like they didn't know. I suggest to take the short walk down to the pool and take a look. We stayed 1 not and left. Went to the Winter Green in Dells, much better!!! I contacted Best Western to file a complaint and they say all has been fixed. I have a hard time believing that since the number of reviews still complaining about the pool.
Check in was easy. Accomodations were very clean. We used the handicap accessible. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the pool and hot tub were closed for maintenance. You might want to call to make sure they are both available. The breakfast was good. They had waffles, scrambled egg and sausage as well as other breakfast items. I would recommend this hotel.
Wanted to visit Wisconsin Dells without staying around lots of families and kids. Found this hotel reasonably priced and very clean! Only a 25 min drive from the downtown attractions. Room had large refrigerator and microwave, looked recently remodeled. Stayed 2 nights and never heard a peep from other rooms. Breakfast was included with room price and was AWESOME!!! Definitely would stay here again.
