Description

"Only accept if on a budget"
DelBoy A, 21 Octobre 2024

We needed 2 rooms for 1 night for a next day trade show and this was a fair price and included breakfast & parking at a members 30% reduced rate offer. The picture looks periodic so we were quite excited. Hmm the area is really down and full of hotels looking like ghost homes with no guests so our impression went downhill fast. Then the sat nav could not find it as there is no clear BW sign outside and we had to pass the hotel twice before finding the entrance as it was shielded by a very large tree after traffic lights. Anyhow parking was safe and plentiful but the room was 2 floors up and tired & basic and badly needs updating but it was OK for just 1 night as a place to rest one's head. Finding somewhere to eat was a nightmare as they have no restaurant. We were told TGIF's was a mile back down the road but you have to circumnavigate most of Birmingham (joke) to go the other way and then when we finally found it - IT HAD CLOSED DOWN. 3 miles further on we at last find a Steak house establishment (with security guards outside!!! patrolling the car park) and we ate there and then the long trip back. Breakfast was OK but we have had much better at other BW establishments. I cant say I was impressed and really cannot recommend it unless you are given an offer you cannot refuse. There are much better hotels in Birmingham. Never mind

"Great location , easy to find , friendly staff, tastefully decorated , lots of parking"
tattyjules, 24 Septembre 2024

Great location for Botanical gardens ( 5 mins ), also found a fab Persian restaurant 100 yards on ten same road . Hotel could do with a refurbishment , tastefully decorated , bedroom was ok , wasn't fully clean , pillows were ok but no extra and heating needed hotel to change if needed it hotter. Just started food in restaurant however limited menu , bar good and staff friendly . Breakfast self service , nice cooked and good selection. Staff were limited in the evening and appeared rushed however worked hard . Location on Hadley road perfect , restaurants so close to hotel. Beds comfy , shower over bath , fan and quiet as at back of hotel room 2 . No lift so few stairs to get to bar and restaurant or can go outside to access. Would return as staff were friendly and polite

"Good value B nB"
SueJ264, 23 Septembre 2024

The best 2 nights sleep in a hotel i've had recently. The beds were so comfy and the room temperature nice and cool, not the usual overheated dry air. Breakfast was good and self service got everyone through quickly. How this hotel can operate on such a minimal staff level, is a minor miracle.

"Dusty, out-dated, unloved and non existent service"
Jane G, 15 Septembre 2024

There wasn't anyone on reception when we arrived (6pm), there was a sign giving a mobile number to ring - we tried but the phone had been left behind the reception ! Had to try to find staff so we could check in. Nobody manning the bar when we returned later that evening either. Hotel was foisty smelling, very dusty with cobwebs on the lamps in the bar. Very dated and down at heel. TV didn't work in the room as the wifi signal was so bad. Hairs found in the bath in the room. Would not recommend nor would we stay here again. It's significantly over priced for the facilities and staff provided.

"Best, what best"
Family_traveler1208, 14 Septembre 2024

There was a nothing best about this place, it's run like a hostel rather than a hotel. The service from checkin through to breakfast is the worst I have experienced. Why have a bar and not man it, why have a mobile number and not answer it, why have staff you look and serve like they don't want to be here….. appalling

"Brilliant service and stay"
mrsbrian, 07 Septembre 2024

This is a hidden gem of a hotel and so convenient for Birmingham with the most helpful staff and relaxing atmosphere. I would love to have a conference meeting here. Room was so clean and comortable and quiet for the location we will be here again and this is not the first time we have used this hotel

"Good Value no frills hotel"
alexis123aaaaa, 07 Septembre 2024

This is a good value for money hotel in an excellent location for central Birmingham.( a short bus ride away ) Room was quite dated but clean and comfortable. Bar open 24/7. Large car park. Book direct with the hotel rather than via a booking site as you get free parking otherwise it's £15 per night.

"Great staff and owners."
DanteMontoban, 07 Septembre 2024

Stayed here for a weekend for a wedding. Couldn't fault the place. The staff are top notch. Very friendly and engaged with us as a group over the weekend. If you're feeling energetic edgebaston reservoir is close by and has a nice path around it.

"Clean and comfortable."
Tudor K, 04 Septembre 2024

Well located for my needs. Always clean and comfortable. Have stayed here on several occasions. Staff are helpful and welcoming. I am now just talking as TripAdvisor wants me to leave 200 words and I've run out of things that I want to say.....

"Wouldn't stay again."
Meander45547775291, 02 Septembre 2024

We attended this venue for 2 nights as wedding guests. We had to pay £20 for parking on arrival. We paid a total of £280 for two nights without breakfast in an outdated and uncomfortable room. Some of the staff were unwelcoming and need to be taught some front of house manners.

"Excellent location and value for money"
bluebird421, 31 Août 2024

Wonderful hotel, and a free room upgrade too. I liked the piano bar and plenty of choice for breakfast too. Shame there isn't a restaurant however, but it is only a 10-minute bus ride into the centre of Birmingham. I will definitely be back if I ever visit Birmingham again.

"Always a nice stay"
skyhighreaching, 29 Août 2024

I have been using this hotel for many years and will continue to return. It has ample secure car parking and very reasonable prices. Rooms are adequate and clean . The staff are always super friendly and willing to help with any requests. Ideally located for public transport or walking into the city centre.

"overpriced hotel"
Mark K, 18 Août 2024

staff were very friendly , this goes without saying . looks like some of the rooms are being refurbished at present and the end result is very good . i do feel however that the rooms were heavily overpriced for a wedding which was arranged last year .. rooms were meant to be discounted to attract more people to book for the wedding .. i think it's definitely overpriced for what we paid directly with the hotel , wish we had booked through best western where the parking is free and the breakfast is no more than 12.00 per person .. breakfast was ok , hand feeding you teas and coffee is very laboured they need to get machine in food items kept running out in buffet and you had to keep waiting , therefore your breakfast was getting cold . major problem at bar.. no experience bar staff what so ever .. absolutely embarrassing.. all beer purchased in draught system tasted of vinegar .. including the guinness and IPA.. they had no idea that lime went on top of bottles of sol ..and you were only aloud 1 ice cube .. it was so bad that some people were buying there drink over the road and kept disappearing to there rooms to top up lol. but the staff were good and rooms were clean ..

"Well worth the money"
KGadsby66, 16 Août 2024

We arrived to this hotel around 22.45pm after the cricket game at edgbaston on 15th August Well I can honestly say the young lad behind the desk was super cheery and helpful deffo knew how to put a smile on customers face after a long day and wet due to heavy rain Room super clean and huge and well worth the money we paid for it for the night Will deffo recommend and even come back ourselves Keep it up

"Devastated"
Lee J, 14 Août 2024

Do not drive to this hotel. My vehicle was broken into overnight. The manager told me it's a regular occurrence but they don't monitor CCTV. Lost in total £3000. Staff were very helpful to be fair and it's generally a nice hotel, bar stayed open very late for us. Unfortunately the criminal experience ruined my stay.

"The most perfect wedding day."
Sam H, 03 Août 2024

We chose the Plough and Harrow to celebrate the most special day of our lives on the 2nd August, it was the most perfect place to say I do. From start to finish it was amazing. The staff were so incredible, they did everything they could to accommodate us. The food was delicious, the beds so comfortable. The day was perfect. I want to thank the plough and harrow staff, particularly Paul and Kyle for all they did. The resident dj Colin (phoenixpromotions) was fantastic, played everything we wanted, took requests and played some real classics to get everyone up and dancing. Highly recommended! Thankyou so much and for any one planning on booking a wedding, consider the Plough and Harrow you won't regret it!

"Cricket stay"
Christine M, 30 Juillet 2024

The atmosphere of this hotel was good together with the staff . Breakfast was plentiful and of a pleasing quality. Staff were most helpful at breakfast and in reception area. Rooms are ‘tired' and could do with being totally refreshed. AC would be a good addition too.

"Summer one night stay"
Fez71, 27 Juillet 2024

I arrived very late after work, but the check in process was still friendly and efficient, and I received a warm welcome. Parking is available in the hotel's car park, and secure. My room was extremely spacious, with plenty of storage facilities, tea & coffee, towels and toiletries. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned to a high standard. Cooked breakfast was freshly made, and the service was first class and very friendly throughout. For the price paid, this hotel exceeded my expectations, and I would not hesitate to stay here again. I would definitely recommend!

"Wonderful staff . Great for disabled guests "
Vacation11450242985, 20 Juillet 2024

Absolutely delightful staff. The most disabled-friendly hotel I have stayed at. The staff are very attentive, clearly well to be inclusive and understanding about different disabilities. They take on board your special circumstances and go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience. Lovely rooms, nice food Always been a winner. Thank you so much! Good nights's sleep: 5/5 Quiet through night: 5/5 Price: 5/5 Hygiene and room cleanliness: 5/5 Support for invisible disability: 5/5 Staff conduct: 5/5 Food 5/5 Vegan friendly: 3/5 Would stay again: YES

"Great stay"
Sid B, 16 Juillet 2024

For the price we paid we were exceptionally happy with our stay and having the breakfast deal too was a bonus. Every member of staff we saw was happy, friendly and courteous and made you feel glad to be there. Our room was perfectly adequate, we didn't upgrade on this occasion. Comfy bed. Tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was a nice size, the shower was good. It was all clean. The breakfast was yummy. My husband had a full English and loved it. I had a packet of muesli which wasn't like any muesli I had had before but perfectly edible especially after adding a banana to it. There really was a lot of choice, either hot or cold. Although you can't get an evening meal here, there are lots of eating establishments within walking distance, we tried Akbars, as recommended to us by a staff member, which is one of the busiest and best curry houses we've ever eaten at. The original building is fascinating and if you're a history buff I'm sure there are lots of tales to be told about it. It's in an area of Edgbaston that goes back hundreds of years and you can tell by the other local architecture that hasn't been hidden by new builds of all shapes and sizes. Thank you all.

"Great place to stay"
633jools, 15 Juillet 2024

Went there on a night out in brum, excellent service, very clean and tidy. The breakfast was well organised, the only setback it doesn't serve food in daytime or evening meal, but off an ordering system and provide utensils. Fully recommend this place to stay.

"Friendly staff in classy old hotel."
Cat C, 14 Juillet 2024

Lovely, classy old hotel with the loveliest of staff. Friendly welcome on arrival and really nice bedroom. So quiet too. Everything that a business traveller could require. Meggs on reception was a star and a real asset to the brand. I stayed in room 120 which is lovely but it's worth mentioning that the tiled rim around the deep bath/tub is pretty wide and needs some careful negotiating when getting in and out. A notice on the wall advises to be careful. Would I stay here again? Absolutely.

"Worth a go"
Stephen K, 08 Juillet 2024

The place albeit old is full of character, although it is a little tired now. Really good and helpful staff, nice little bar area and a lot of secure parking. Easy bus or drive into the city centre, and I will definitely use again in the not to distant future

"Charming hotel stay at historic Victorian house at Plough and Harrow Birmingham"
williechen2009, 07 Juillet 2024

The Plough and Harrow Best Western hotel at Birmingham is an ideal location of stay in the heart of Birmigham with easy access to both the city centre and the university. The hotel itself is also very splendid and good design since Victorian time, an opportunity to explore best charm of Victorian Birmingham. Good Internet in the room with the help of using Staff Internet at certain rooms at conf wing. Decent breakfast you should not miss. Better to join BEst Western to enjoy an upgrade of the room.

"Nice Birmingham hotel"
Tbracey57, 07 Juillet 2024

Good hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, ideally placed for our short visit to the Botanic gardens

"Welcoming & Professional"
kieranDacey, 06 Juillet 2024

We had a wake here for my partners mum. The staff were so helpful and made the already beautiful hotel look immaculate. Thank you Tom, Praneet, Miles and Paul. Looking forward to coming back in the near future! Room is lovely, breakfast fantastic and filled me up for the day.

"Great place, great people only let down by no food other than breakfast"
David L, 24 Juin 2024

Looking for somewhere to stay with work 2 days a week, every fortnight, I stumbled across this gem of a place. Situated right in the heart of the city, easy to get to and ample parking. The building is just stunning and a quick google search told me it was built in 1704. (Also, JRR Tolkien (the guy who wrote The Lord of the Rings) stayed here as a boy and again in 1916 just before he left to join the forces in WW1. There's a blue plaque commemorating this). The welcome I've received each time I've arrived has been excellent and special mention for Tom who is as genuine as they come. A selection of free cold drinks with slices of fruit on arrival was a lovely touch and much appreciated after a 5.5 hour drive. The rooms are a decent size with everything you need, clean and very comfortable and whilst some of the furniture might be classed by some as dated, I think it adds to the charm and character of the place. Massive window looks out onto the gardens which are small but perfectly manicured. The only reason I cared this as 4 stars is that there is no food other than breakfast which is a little disappointing. I'm a hard person to please however this place has ticked almost all my boxes which is why I'll keep coming back. Recommended, you can thank me later :)

"Plough and Harrow Hotel"
sg19702024, 16 Juin 2024

We stayed at the plough and Harrow Hotel for one night due to it's location to where to needed to be the following day. On arrival we were treated by the most friendly and polite reception staff we have ever met they really couldn't do enough for you. To be honest all the staff we came across were the same really friendly and helpful. The rooms we had were larger than what we expected and both were spotless. We all had a great nights sleep as the beds were really comfortable. The hotel has plenty of secure parking which is always a good thing knowing that you will have a secure place to leave your car overnight.we were so happy with our stay here that we plan to go back next week.

"One Night Stay in Birmingham"
Chris H, 15 Juin 2024

I stayed at the Best Western Plough and Harrow to attend the Ikon Gallery and then the Razorlight and James Concert at the Birmingham Utilita Arena on 12 June 2024. The hotel is well located being a 20 minute walk from the Arena and 30 minutes walk from Birmingham museum, with several eating and drinking establishments on Broad Street as you approach the centre. The hotel is on two levels but can take a long walk to get to the rooms. My single room was spacious, clean and well-aired and all appliances worked. There was someone on reception on arrival and departure and I had no issues accessing the hotel after the doors had been locked. The hotel was a bit more expensive than I would normally pay but well worth it for its proximity to the centre of Birmingham.

"Absolutely awful - would not recommend to anyone"
a12uk, 10 Juin 2024

Would not recommend to anyone. Absolutely disgusting room, even from the outside the building looks awful and this is carried on within the inside. Rooms are filled with cobwebs and dust, the net curtains have never been washed and had spiders all over them. Bathrooms didn't have soap, doors didn't properly lock and had no security features (no security clasp or no spy hole). Windows also didn't closer properly and had no safety features so people (especially children) could have easily climbed/fell out. Was also very noisy from a gathering happening downstairs but this went on until nearly midnight. Extremely overpriced and needs more than just a good clean and modernisation. Reception staff were useless and seemed so uninterested/clearly did not want to be there. Used nail file left on the desk chair. Bedding was dirty and had multiple hairs from previous people all over. Dust under the bed was extremely thick. Would not recommend to anyone.

"Great, friendly hotel - ideal for Utilita and close to the Metro stop"
Julie W, 08 Juin 2024

Stayed here as it was close to the Utilita Arena and has a Metro stop close by. Lovely friendly receptionist, easy check in. Our room was in a separate building at the back. I really liked the room, very clean and lots of space. Yes, it was a bit dated, with it's dark wood panelling and mahogany furniture but great nonetheless. The bed was mega comfy and there was a bath too! They had even put an ironing board, iron and hairdryer in the room. I couldn't find any USB charging ports though, so remember to take a charger with you. There is a Morrisons just down the road if you have forgotten anything.

"Wedding 25/5/2024"
Benpa2014, 04 Juin 2024

We have just had the most amazing wedding day at the Plough and Harrow, Birmingham. We chose the Plough and Harrow for its central location as we are local to Birmingham, however, our guests and family were travelling in from all over the country and some as far afield as Holland and Greece, the excellent transport links, access to public transport, free parking and all within walking distance from city centre bars and restaurants were an absolute must for us. We had almost 60 guests on the day and further 40 attending for the evening reception. The ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception took place in the beautiful terrace room, and we had access to the terrace outdoor seating area and garden to the rear of the building, not many city centre hotels can boast that, and it really added something special to our day. The food for our wedding breakfast was delicious and while there was a slight delay, Kyle managed to sort any problems and it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the day. For our evening reception we had the BBQ, very much enjoyed by our guests. Some of our party had specific dietary requirements these were catered for, and nothing was too much trouble, our thanks go to the chef! Many of our guests stayed at the hotel including the bridal party. The rooms were spacious clean and functional and whilst a little “tired”, this can be overlooked, as the beds were comfy and it added to the overall charm and feel of an old country house sitting lost in time, in the middle of the second City – A real Gem. The recommendations made by the team from the Plough and Harrow were much appreciated, as we wouldn't have known where to start, from Clare who dressed the venue beautifully, Colin who DJ'd our reception and the talented Fitz playing the hotel piano with accompanying vocals supplied by Ola, we really couldn't have wished for more. We would like to thank Paul, Kyle and all the team at the Plough and Harrow for ensuring our wedding day was the stuff of memories in all the right ways! We have no hesitation in recommending the Plough and Harrow to host and accommodate a special event or just for somewhere to stay while in Brum.

"Disappointing"
kathrynlF6279WY, 28 Mai 2024

Room was dusty and dirty on arrival and had to be given a clean. Was not able to use the bar when we returned to the hotel that evening because of a wedding but we were not warned of this. Room was not refreshed the following day, we returned to the hotel late in the evening to find the wet towels that needed changing still on the floor, the cups hadn't been replaced with clean ones etc

"Could be a great place"
JDucker, 19 Mai 2024

We stayed here for a concert at the Utilita Arena. Location was great for us, 10 mins walk to Broad Street and another 5/10 mins walk to the Arena. It's difficult to find the entrance from the road as it isn't very well signposted. The old building is lovely looking and it looks like it once had nicely kept gardens although the entrance definitely needs a good tidy up. At check in we were given zero information. We were told our room number and the briefest description of where it was “upstairs, carry on, up some more stairs and it's there” in reality it was a lot more complicated than that and we trudged around for a while before we found it. The signs are not much help either. We weren't given any information about breakfast (ie where it was and what times) and no information about check out times either. Our room was in the 60's extension which looks very grotty from the outside. The room was dated and tired but clean but there were no mattress protectors. The bed was comfortable though and the bedding was clean. As we were meeting friends we went to the bar but there seemed to be only one member of staff working. He had to cover reception and the bar so if you wanted a drink you had to go to reception and ask him to come and serve which wasn't ideal for him or us. He did say there was supposed to be someone covering the bar but he didn't know where they were. The terrace could be lovely with a good jetwash and a bit of tlc. The night security guy was really friendly and professional when we got back from the concert. He asked how our night had been and if there was anything we needed, a very different reception to when we checked in. We asked him where and when breakfast was served. In the morning we headed for breakfast and every member of the cleaning team who passed us was friendly and said good morning. A lady who I think was the supervisor was particularly friendly and chatty as we passed her. At breakfast some of our friends were already seated and warned us that there wasn't much food available. This was 9am and breakfast was supposed to be available until 10:30am however the only hot items left were one rasher of bacon, a couple of grilled tomatoes and half a piece of black pudding. Everything else had run out. There was a few slices of bread but no butter. Our friends had said that they had to ask for items to be replenished but each time only a very small amount had been put out (such as a single croissant, a small bowl of beans, a handful of butter sachets etc) It was genuinely painful to watch the young waitress too-ing and fro-ing with single items when the whole set up needed completely restocking. There were three members of staff working the dining room and only a handful of guests, there was no excuse or reason for the lack of available food. In the end we ate our breakfast in stages with long gaps between items. A kind of breakfast tapas I suppose. We did complain to the manager, but he didn't really seem too interested other than to tell us how busy he was and to blame the chef rather than the waiting staff who weren't checking and replenishing anything. Apparently he was busy managing a “conference” Our room was next to the conference room and there was around 5 or 6 children who seemed to be being tutored by two teachers. Not sure how much of his time was being spent managing this “conference” on a Sunday morning, but he certainly wasn't busy making sure his guests were happy with their stay. As we were leaving the dining room we saw a couple of guests come down and there were no plates for them, so they had just the tiny side plates and were trying to piece together something to eat. Shocking really. I guess to sum it all up, this could be a great hotel but it needs new management. It looks and feels very uncared for, and there is very little customer care from the customer facing staff. Ironically the non-customer facing staff were the best, maybe they should swap roles!

"Pleasingly old fashioned, with modern touches"
Minehead1959, 15 Mai 2024

The lobby, bar and dining room are quite grand, but when we got to our room, which was about a mile away, it all went Premier Inn. Nothing wrong with that. Breakfast is hot & cold buffet style, so we missed out on the pleasure of ordering from a menu, but there were attentive staff who brought me a large pot of tea. Bar was open late and it was good to take a glass out on to the garden terrace for a nightcap.

"Business Trip"
Jane K, 21 Avril 2024

Stayed here 5 nights on a business trip. Friendly greeting on arrival. One colleague did need to move room due to mould in the room, this was handled straight away and second room was fine. The hotel bedrooms could do with refurbishment but overall we all enjoyed our stay. There are some good pubs and restaurants on the door step. The staff are really friendly and nothing seemed to be a problem for them. Free parking because we booked direct. I would definitely stay again.

"Overall, a good stay"
Vera R, 18 Avril 2024

Friendly welcome. Room was a good size, warm and welcoming. Bit of a trek from reception to the rooms, past some conference rooms, and didn't appear to be a lift (we were on first floor)

"A few issues but overall good"
pitseleh, 08 Avril 2024

Long walk from some rooms to reception, car park or breakfast room. Call ahead if you have limited mobility (no lift as well as long corridors!) Our room was fine although the only noticeable difference between family room and Executive king was a second single bed rather than just a sofa bed. We got cold at night (meant to be able to request Reception to turn it up but we didn't try). Warmer optional blankets would have been good. Radiator is behind curtains and by the window so probably doesn't heat the room very efficiently. We liked having a bath as well as a shower. However the shower wouldn't run warm/hot for the second night and morning! Disappointing. We liked the breakfast although items seemed to run out by 9am and not be topped up until we asked (such as normal tea bags, cooked items eg. bacon, hash browns). Good to have checkout not too early. Location good for what we needed.

"A hidden gem of a hotel"
Jane P, 09 Mars 2024

This hotel is a hidden gem: lovely feel and vibe. Clean and tidy with an excellent breakfast - rooms were spacious and well equipped and very comfortable . Excellent service on arrival and ample onsite parking. We ordered food in and borrowed cutlery and plates to eat in the lovely lounge are complete with Bar and grand piano.

"Expensive, very tired and pay extra for parking!"
Benno05, 03 Mars 2024

Very tired and expensive for what it is. The good was the night porter who was incredibly helpful. The bad? Looks like it was decorated in the 1970's and not since, the bed I could feel the springs in and the shower gel in the shower was impossible to get any out of! It was cleanish and as I didn't book direct had the pleasure of paying an extra £10 for parking which I didn't expect so be warned.

"Nice place"
mattomatteo71, 24 Février 2024

Best Western is always a guarantee for a good stay. My room 111 was very spacious though there were 3 single beds instead of the double one I had booked for. Flufffy towels and spotless clean sheets were much appreciated. Good breakfast full of many good options (even healthy ones). Even though there's no restaurant on site, there are many restaurant within walking distance. If you do not book directly or via BW site, parking is 10£ a night.

"Nice hotel"
Devontravelbug2, 26 Janvier 2024

Stayed one night for a concert at the Utilita arena. Hotel was full but staff managed perfectly. Friendly reception staff. Room very dated (rm1). It was like stepping back in time. Felt the room needed updating. Very old shower and rusty bath, although functional I don't expect rust. Shower curtain barely touched the edge to prevent water coming onto the floor. Radiators were an issue, you can't control them from the room, they're controlled by reception which is bizarre? Couldn't be turned off. Although reception tried turning them down. Walls were thin and could hear everything from the TV to talking coming from next door. The staff make this hotel! They were all a credit to the place. So friendly, chatty and accommodating. Came back quite late and bar was still open, night porter was brilliant! Couldn't do enough for us serving us drinks and chatting to us. Breakfast was plentiful and lots of choice from crumpets to bagels and fruit to full cooked brekky! Overall I think we might if rooms were updated we'd stay again as I think the room was the only thing that let the hotel down.

"Hotel tired"
paulappleton1, 26 Janvier 2024

The hotel is in need of a revamp, looking very tired in the room in the ground floor away from the main hotel. Breakfast ok staff friendly. Bathroom floors very slippery as the floors a Whits gloss tiles..

"Could do better"
stephens473, 17 Janvier 2024

Firstly the staff are a real credit to the hotel , everyone we dealt with was very friendly , polite and helpful. The two ladies in the breakfast room were particularly welcoming and very helpful. Parking is in a large barrier controlled car park and is free if booked direct with the hotel or through Best western , otherwise it is £10.00 per day. The hotel entrance and main building have retained many of their original features and are very impressive , the reception area , lounge , bar , breakfast room and main staircase are quite impressive and decorated with a mix of period furniture and modern artifacts , that's where anything positive ends . To access our rooms we walked along an endless maze of corridors up and down stairs , more corridors more stairs , you get the picture. We were aware there was no lift when we booked but not aware we would be on a marathon mountainous trek. We were in a 1960's / 1970's extension which can only be described as school dormitories. The rooms were very large and had big windows overlooking the garden , however the views were masked by the condensation running down them and gathering on the window sill wetting the curtains, the rooms had a mouldy , damp smell about them. The beds were very comfy and the sheets and towels were spotless . There was plenty of hot water from both shower and the bath as well as toiletries. A tray with tea , coffee, milk and a kettle , but no biscuits , water or fridge. The furniture was very dark and well passed its sell by date , the lighting in the room was poor , one ceiling light near the door , a table lamp on the desk and one bedside lamp ! The rooms were absolutely freezing and we had to put our coats on the beds for extra warmth, we reported this to the staff on the second day who advised they would turn up the heating - still very , very cold for our whole stay. The endless corridors and the breakfast room were also very cold. It is the first time my Best Western Rewards status has been completely ignored ! The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, it was buffet style with continental items , plenty of fresh fruit and a large selection of cooked items ,eggs were cooked to order and were perfect, the staff in the breakfast room and the actual breakfast were the best things about our stay. With some investment in the guest rooms this would be a great hotel . Thanks to all the hardworking staff who helped us make the best of our stay.

"Short break"
Paradise05449466849, 31 Décembre 2023

"Strange"
tedm494, 23 Décembre 2023

Nice reception barea but that's about all. Very few staff but they are friendly when you find one. Rooms are dark and dated. Shower curtain manky and black. I asked for a Latte in the bar area and the barman came back with a coffee that just about filled a tea cup...we were charged £3.00 for it and found out later that he had got the coffee from the drinks machine in the breakfast room! The fact that the hotel is bed and breakfast only.. they are missing a trick there. It's a strange place and I won't be going back.

"The owner has turned the heating off so stay here if you don't mind risking getting hypothermia "
katy n, 05 Octobre 2023

Staff are lovely. Friendly and very helpful. Beds and pillows comfortable. Room was clean but a bit tired looking. Plenty of parking which was free. My room was about a mile from reception and there's no lift so if you can't do lots of stairs or walk very far ask for a room not so far away. The big negative was my bedroom was absolutely freezing. A poster in the room says to ring reception if you want to change the temperature in your room but I was told the owner hasn't put the heating on so they gave me a tiny little heater. My employer paid but if I was paying myself to stay in a hotel where there is no heating I would be pretty annoyed.

"Great atmosphere and great staff"
n0teperfect, 05 Septembre 2023

I loved the hotel - a lot of wooden panels in the décor made for a great atmosphere. The layout is a little quirky, but that only adds to the fun of the hotel. Staff were superb throughout my stay and I would have no hesitation in staying here again on the strength of the staff alone. Booking direct through Great Western made my stay cheaper, and free parking and inclusive breakfast also made a great impact on overall price - great value for money. Location is great - on the Hagley Road. Tram terminus is just down the road, and at the time of my stay a Zone 1 return ticket was under £3.

"Great venue "
Ros S, 21 Août 2023

We chose The Plough and Harrow for my husbands Wake. It was perfect, plenty of free parking, large room, bar and outside area available all day and into the night. The staff went above and beyond all the time we were there. Good rate for B&B for friends and family to stay.

"Dreadful service at check in"
Traveler68442, 06 Août 2023

Upon arriving to check in at 7pm on Saturday 5th August we had the most awful aggressive attitude from a member of staff checking us in we have ever experienced. We were given a key to room 115,which when we tried to use just flashed yellow so returned to reception to explain to the receptionist the issue. The same key was then reprogrammed & we tried the key for a second time. Imagine our horror when entering the room,it was clearly already occupied with other guests posessions on display etc. Upon beating a hasty retreat we asked the receptionist if there was a manager available to discuss what had just happened. We were told by the receptionist that she was indeed the duty manager so what was the issue? We explained what had just happened to which she replied obviously finding the issue extremely humerous "Well it could have been worse at least no one was in the room!" Shocked by this reply we explained that this was totally unacceptable & we then told extremely aggressively "What do you expect me to do, I'm on my own!!" My husband asked"What guarantee was there that this incident would not happen to us in our room, again aggressively was told"Well Keep your door locked then!" The self proclaimed Duty Manager/receptionist was clearly more interested in talking to her boyfriend who was draped over the reception desk rather than ensuring that as she was representing her employer a professional, helpful, polite and courteous attitude as one would expect be evident. We were given a key for another room, however as you can imagine were extremely nervous about being in our room, leaving our room to go out for dinner & actually decided to place a chair under the handle of the door inside our room to help us feel safe from any other guests who were unfortunate enough to experience the same issue as us. Dreadful experience, attitude & service, needless to say we won't be back

"Enjoyed our stay"
i5a8e11a, 01 Août 2023

My partner and I chose this hotel whilst visiting relatives. I loved the hotel, a quirky old charm hotel. The rooms were lovely and large. Windows actually opened. Conveniently located near 5-ways and can walk to the centre of Birmingham if you are so inclined. Note, the car park is only free if you book direct.

"Best Western Best staff"
michael-Cheryl2023, 13 Juillet 2023

The decor may be a bit dated in the bedrooms but the beds were comfortable the room was clean and towels and tea and coffee were provided. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Breakfast was self service and plenty of it. Will definitely be back.

"Great value"
R586HKjons, 12 Juin 2023

Visited for a mate's 50th. Lovely helpful staff and a decent breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and they didn't mind us playing footy on the lawn.... although I'm still feeling it 2 days later in my hammies.... overall a great hotel.

"Lovely stay"
kerryannej, 04 Juin 2023

Before we visited we read a few bad reviews and was worried. We had no reason to worry. Upon arrival it was clear there was a function on however we were checked in quickly. Our room was on the ground floor (005) and even though we could hear the music it wasn't enough to keep us awake. Our room was spacious and very clean. Good internet (we took our fire stick to keep the kids entertained). Breakfast was fresh and plenty full we could not fault it. Now for the staff, what can I say??? Every member of staff was fantastic from reception, bar, restaurant and the cleaning staff. Nothing was to much trouble, they were always on hand to help. I would recommend this hotel. If travelling with children there is a little park a short walk away too

"One Of My Favourites!!"
TWS954, 02 Juin 2023

My ist choice when I go to Edgbaston. So I thought a few nights, (3), away as it was bank holiday & my 1st ever cricket T20. Been here several times & it really is good, comfortable & clean with a perfect location, the three most important issues to me. The bedrooms are big, smashing bed/matress & all you'd expect facility wise. I didn't have breaky this time as I rarely do BUT when I return for the Ashes soon, I will. And its very good too, when I've had them in the past. The staff really are top drawer, nothing is too much trouble. Sinead on reception makes my stay even better. The only downer & it really is minor, the plumbing can be temperamental at times but it didn't spoil my little visit. See you in a couple of weeks yet again, luv this hotel & its people!!!! Thanks Tim Oxford

"Disturbed nights"
tricky10765, 28 Mai 2023

Booked by another on my behalf for 2 nights for business. This hotel is very much 1980s with dark wood everywhere. My room although a long way away was traditional with everything you need, shower and bath. Bring cold water It was a family room. Beware the walls are thin, if you have a noisy neighbour you will hear everything, so be ready for a disturbed sleep. Breakfast was very interesting and minimalistic with 2 croissants and 2 pan au chocolate , just enough for 2 , cooked was a help yourself buffet. Parking on site as cost £10

"Central; great staff; comfy bed but ...."
annawilliams12023, 24 Janvier 2023

it is getting very tired and could do with some investment but the rooms are spacious, or mine was at least, although could have done with an Uber to get me to it .... wow that's a bit building! The bedding & bed was super compfy., so had a great nughts sleep.

"Perfectly located hotel"
4rachel135, 31 Décembre 2022

My daughter and I stayed on a visit to the Rep Theatre. This hotel is perfectly located - easy to get to, park, stay outside of the clean air zone, close to a tram station that took us to try theatre within 5mins. Really helpful and friendly staff. A good size room that was comfortable and perfect for our stay. Thank you.

"Lovely Hotel did not disappoint"
michee300677, 12 Décembre 2022

Lovely staff and the rooms were good. The breakfast was definitely the highlight. Tasty and good quality. Hotel in a good location for local attractions and shopping. Will definitely stay there again.

"Great Stay"
Jason H, 27 Novembre 2022

We stayed here Saturday 28th Nov, greated with very polite & happy staff, hotel is in the perfect location, the tram is 100 meters or so away & 5 stops & your at the heart of the xmas market & all the shops. Bar area & lounge is very nice & cozy, the room was perfect for us, clean & everything you needed, breakfast was great, again greated very politely, we looked at so many hotels to stay at but so glad we chose this one, we will definitely return, thank you for a great stay.

"Lovely Find!"
74JoeJoe, 25 Novembre 2022

Had a lovely stay here. The hotel is a beautiful building and really ideally located, being only walking distance to the tram stop into the centre of Birmingham, which takes about 10 mins. The rooms themselves are a little dated but they are large and very comfortable. Personally I think that one thing that is missing is a hotel safe but that might not be high on other peoples list. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back if I visit Birmingham again. At the time of writing, there is significant building work going on around the hotel, they are starting around 7.45am but that is a short term issue and really should not deter anyone from coming, it really is a bit of a gem and perfect for any planned short trips to Birmingham

"Decent hotel"
Murtaza K, 14 Novembre 2022

Good overall experience. Walking distance to key areas in Birmingham. Room temperature and water temperature was adequately heated. Room size was good for me. Staff was friendly and cooperative. Room was clean. Good dining options nearby. It's not mentioned so I knew it already but there were no bath slippers. Adding this would be convenient for the guests and also increase the life and cleanliness of the carpets. Also I noticed that bed sheet is not changed during clean up of the room. The entire 6 nights, I slept on the same sheet which did not feel very good. The bed was made up when I requested but I believe the bed sheet was not changed. Also the person cleaning the room should themselves check if shower gel is finished. I ran out of shower gel and had to request reception for it which was resolved 2 days later when I requested the cleaner herself and even then I could not use the shower gel as it was closed and not opening somehow. I had an amazing stay and I would give an overall 8 or 9 but these 3 aspects; bath slippers, changing bed sheets and providing shower gel before it is finished, would have made it a perfect stay. These are just suggestions though and not complaints. I leave a happy customer to return in future as well.

"a rip off !!!!"
W4279CIpierrev, 18 Octobre 2022

the hotel is certainly nice looking but.......... the cost per night is changing without notice: first night is 90 £ and second night jump at 120 £ without a warning. When you ask why your are told that the hotel has more resident on the second day, reason why it is more expensive. on the web page you can see a nice restaurant, you are thinking that you would get a good Dinner quietly in the place. but when you arrive you are told that the restaurant is only open for breakfast !!!! but you can order food delivery to have your meal in your room !!!! and if you are not happy then just leave, as the intendent say they are plenty of other hotel available in Birmingham. unfortunaly when you are exhausted after a 12 hours day of work you are not willing to leave. otherwise yes I would have. ending the day in my room with no dinner. too tired to go out again and not willing to have a Mac Donald in my room. if you are in Birmingham for professional reason AVOID !!

"A hidden gem"
mrsbrian, 04 Octobre 2022

Great service, spotless, comfortable room, lovely breakfast and only 15 to 20 minutes walk to central Birmingham attractions or shops handy for the jewellery quarter. Car parking free if booking direct

"Perfectly met our requirements"
Neil R, 29 Septembre 2022

We spent two nights at the hotel, the 23rd and 24th September, for a wedding at the Botanical Gardens. It was a very comfortable stay, with a largish room and comfortable facilities and well worth the price. Granted the hotel is in need of a little TLC, but it's in easy walking distance of attractions such as the Botanical Gardens (venue for the wedding reception), and is also within easy walking distance of the first stop of the newly extended Metro tramway. However, what mage it truly memorable is the friendly reception of the staff, especially of Sinead, who was on reception, whose helpfulness and efficiency knew no bounds. Well worth it.

"Weekend Away"
t0nyp0well, 05 Septembre 2022

Stayed at the Plough&Harrow for a weekend to visit the Moseley Folk festival. I have stayed here a few times now and have never been disappointed with room and it's amenities. Location is ideal for me as parking is free and secure. Staff have always been welcoming and genuinely pleased to see me return.

"Over Night Stay"
BobMutto, 26 Août 2022

Ideal location with over night parking for the Test at Edgbaston . Would upgrade room on next visit as it was small that's our fault not B W. This Hotel is very clean the staff excellent & very helpful, the breakfast was plentiful

"Old skool Hotel"
John_monkey007, 21 Août 2022

Booked directly and received free parking. A friendly welcome upon arrival. Good value, clean, really friendly staff. It was a nice touch after returning from a wedding reception to be offered night cap or iced water. Breakfast was a nice with a good range of items. Just the room was a little warm. Would definitely stay again.

"2022 Games Stay"
pamwood60, 10 Août 2022

Excellent value for a City stay, more character than a budget hotel. Free Parking when booked direct. Lovely outside area. Came for Commonwealth Games, much more to Brum so will stay here 4 another visit.

"Great hotel near edgbaston"
TimJones50, 13 Juin 2022

A hotel with real character. Comfortable rooms good bar facilities and parking - a great location for an overnight after cricket at Edgbaston. Handy location for food outlets. Will definitely be back for more cricket breaks

"Excellent and friendly"
MFP134, 09 Juin 2022

We stayed for 4 nights for our wedding. The staff and service were great and looked after us so well. The rooms in the annex could do with a refurb but were clean and functional. For all our stay the staff were great and very friendly. It's close to the city centre and not ‘standard' it has a nice feel and the public rooms are stylish and lovely. This was our prefect choice for a wedding and they did not disappoint. Thanks to Emma and the team for a wonderful stay. Great accommodation, great service, free parking when you book direct. Great location.

"Great place to stay"
JaneOgden, 06 Juin 2022

We had a lovely night here for my sister's birthday. Near to the city centre, great room, lovely bar area and very friendly staff. There was also a bonus wedding party with a great disco who invited us in for a dance!

"A nice hotel that gave value for money."
BrianOgden1, 29 Mai 2022

A good hotel and value for money. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel itself, and our room, were clean, tidy and well made out. Nice bathroom. There was ample car parking space. Just a note on this - we booked through booking.com and had to pay £9 for using the car park overnight. But if you booked direct with the hotel the car park is free. Situated on the outskirts of central Birmingham it is only a short taxi ride to the centre. We would have ended up paying quite a bit more had we stayed in a hotel nearer the centre. All in all a very nice hotel that I would definitely use again.

"Conveniently located Hotel"
Sue H, 24 Mai 2022

Booked for a second time, a 20 minute stroll from Brindley Place and we were attending the NIA later. Friendly welcoming staff, comfortable clean room and good options within the self service breakfast. Thoroughly recommend.

"A gem to find"
Smoothy77, 22 Mai 2022

Great find Charming small hotel that ticked the boxes. Although restaurant was not available the staff are friendly, the room was recently refurbished, clean and comfortable with lovely bed & bathroom. Great big bath. Really appreciated the stay. Breakfast is basic but ok.

"A one nighter"
stephenllewellyn1927, 09 Mai 2022

Went to Birmingham for a Blondie concert and stayed here for the first time. Book through the hotel and you get free parking. A beautiful old building that is well maintained. Staff are attentive and polite. Broad Street is a 15 minute walk away. I recommend.

"A good best western , lives up to the brand."
PrimmGuy, 19 Avril 2022

Great experience friendly staff. It's a older building but they have been doing work on it . I would definitely come back here again . They don't do food but there's a wide selection on deliveroo . The bed was comfortable . TV was old and could do with a new modern one .

"Decent hotel with good staff - bar closes too early though !"
colinsewell, 07 Avril 2022

Overall this is a pretty decent hotel similar to other best western. The photos show the original older part of the hotel, but we were in the more modern extension which goes out the back and is not nearly as nice. Had we been in the older part I think it would have seemed nicer. The rooms were basic but ok. The location is o a main road and is a bit like a student area with the usual fast food take away and shops, not the most scenic but no problems. Within 5 or 10 mins walk is a nice posh pub and the nicer greener area near the University and also Harbourne. The best thing is the staff, who are very nice and helpful. There was one thing that bothered me was that the bar closed at around 10 p.m. on an evening. The first night (Friday) we got back just after this and although there were people sat with drinks the bar was closed, and I asked if it would be open later the following evening (Saturday) and the man I asked said yes it probably would be. On the Saturday we got back just around 10 p.m. and it was already closed - so both nights I was disappointed. It seems a bit early to close a hotel bar on a weekend ? But yet in the mornings I noticed the bar was all open and you could get a drink from breakfast time ! Seems strange to me, surely most people want a drink on an evening not in a morning, and it makes sense to open the bar later in the afternoon and then stay open until a bit later in the evening ?

"Friendly staff and good location"
gloriastarling, 05 Avril 2022

Stayed in main building and room and bathroom were nice. All staff very friendly from check-in, breakfast and housekeeping. Parking was included as we booked direct. If you book via a platform you have to pay for it. Location is outside the low emission zone so good if visiting by car, but close to Brindley Place/ Indoor Arena etc. Short walk to Botanical Gardens on Sunday morning.

"Great stay"
Barbara J, 04 Avril 2022

Stayed here overnight when attending a gig at Resorts World Arena. Walking distance of Broad Street where our friends were staying. Wonderful warm welcome from staff, very attentive and helpful. Booked with them directly so had the parking included and booked breakfast on arrival which turned out to be a great choice. Good choice of food and all very tasty. Room was spacious and had everything we needed including extra pillows! Didn't hear a thing from other guests whilst in our room although there were plenty others staying. Must say all the staff we met were super attentive and very helpful. Would definitely rebook when we are in Birmingham again.

"Exceeded my expectations"
chani1232022, 01 Avril 2022

The staff were so attentive, available at any time. The rooms a little basic, could have done with a fridge but the staff ensured I had all my needs met. We ordered food in the middle of the night and the staff provided cutlery. We were all very satisfied.

"Plough and Harrow - can't fault the customer service"
Branko V, 24 Mars 2022

We used the Plough & Harrow (B&B) while in Birmingham after watching the Badminton Championships being played at the Arena. We booked in very late as the tournament finished after 10pm. So only used the room to sleep and breakfast. All nice and comfortable. The room (suite) was looking a little tired, but still nice. Recommend booking direct with the hotel so that you get parking as part of the deal, otherwise it's an extra £9.50 /day. Great stay - would use again.

"Plough and Harrow"
jonathanatkins68, 22 Mars 2022

Faultless staff: very friendly and welcoming, couldn't do enough for you. Rooms were a little tired, with TV held together with tape and chrome flaking off bathroom fittings. The main building on the other hand is full of character and well maintained.

"All England trip"
customexotics, 21 Mars 2022

Second time we have stayed at this hotel great staff very helpful good bar quiet setting and warm homey feel some of the rooms are a bit of a trek to get to but not a massive prob unless totally drunk !!!

"Lovely hotel, take thermals"
Rhi350, 20 Mars 2022

Really lovely hotel. Friendly staff. Nice bar. Breakfast good. Nice ambience and clean. Our room was out in the sticks, bit of a rubbish part of the hotel, notably different to the main section, but comfortable, clean and everything you need. However, it was pigging freezing! Asked them to put heating on. Said they would but nothing. Stayed in a family room and in the night we all snuggled in the same bed to stay warm. It's the only thing that let it down. Other than that, a nice hotel and really friendly staff. Just take layers!

"Stay at Plough and Harrow."
Davequality, 06 Mars 2022

We have stayed at the Plough and Harrow a few times now it's well located for easy access into city centre, rooms clean bed comfortable, staff very helpful and pleasant. Bar are is nice great to have a drink and relax. We will ge staying again.

"On nights stay in Birmingham "
Debbie M, 27 Février 2022

26.2.22 - This was the first time staying in this hotel. From the outside the building looks amazing. Inside reception, dining and bar are lovely. Room its self looked ok too. Heating in the room you have to request via reception to put it on, it too 30mins to come on and ut bever really warmed the room up was cold through the night. Tge shower was not hot enough. I chose this hote because it was central to men and east to get to the city. Im very disappointed with this hotel. Will not be stopping in this hotel again

"Superb staff"
Karen_really_loves, 23 Février 2022

Myself and my colleagues stayed here for 4 nights early February while we were working the Spring Fair at the NEC. I have to give a massive shout out to Jag who was amazing with us all...the hotel is still very understaffed (probably a Covid hangover) so Jag seemed to appear everywhere and was always super friendly and super helpful...thank you so much! Big shout out to Sandra too for the delicious breakfast.

"Loved it!"
HollyPlank2010, 20 Février 2022

We stayed for one night and the whole experience was fabulous. The check in was easy and we were greeted with a warm welcome, the hotel is lovely and has a charm of its original era. I didn't catch the ladies name who checked us in but she was an absolute credit to Best Western and the number of jobs she did throughout our stay was staggering! We stayed in a family room which was a bit of a trek so be aware if you are staying in a Family room, its a bit of a walk from the reception much more than I expected but this meant it was a quiet side of the hotel. We had an 8 year old with us so the wonder through the hotel was welcomed. The room was clean and tidy - roomy and comfortable. While the hotel don't have an evening offering of food the option of getting food delivered was actually brilliant - meant we could all try something different and it could be delivered while we sat an relaxed in the bar. We did have a bit of trouble with the Deliveroo app but the young Gentleman on reception was very helpful. As soon as the food arrived we were offered cutlery and crockery from the lady on reception/bar, she didn't even let us clean up! Breakfast in the morning was good and relaxed. We all discussed how we would all stay again in a heartbeat!

"TOP PLACE AT A LOW PRICE"
brian j, 19 Février 2022

We checked in friday afternoon. very friendly and helpfull staff. Bar looked nice to but did not have a drink here. only dispointing thing was no food served here yet apart from breakfasts. as they are just getting up and running again after covid. when the restaurant reopens this will be another top place to stay. in the mean time the staff did say we were welcome to bring our own food in and eat it in the bar or our rooms. most hotels dont like that but here it was very welcome. our room was very clean and the bath was amazing

"Beautiful hotel with very friendly and helpful staff."
leannea863, 16 Février 2022

We recently had our wedding at The Plough & Harrow, we where looking for a central location that everyone would easily be able to get to. The Plough & Harrow was perfect for this, it was intimate, had a great vibe along with lovely function rooms. The hotel manager Emma was amazing, she went above and beyond, helping with every little question and request I had - which you do as a bride planning a wedding! and really put my mind at ease that everything was under control and taken care of. The staff where warm, friendly and very accommodating. They have a wide variety of wedding packages and food options available and the food we chose to have was amazing! Everyone loved it. I can not recommend this hotel and it's staff enough.

"Great hotel, worst breakfast ever."
Bryanr1972, 15 Janvier 2022

Lovely hotel, great location, plenty of parking, helpful friendly check in staff. Lovely room, good shower and clean. The breakfast was a totally different experience, probably the worst I have ever had in a hotel! Poor selection and quality. Poor service, luke warm tea, no coffee refills offered. And as for the toaster, it's so bad it's almost incredible. Hard to believe that it has not been replaced! A radiator would work better at making toast.

"Fantastic stay!"
M T, 02 Janvier 2022

I recently stayed here for one night, Check in assistant was welcoming and the overall process was quick. My room (118) was clean, spacious and had all the necessary amenities. A special thank you. I didn't have breakfast in the hotel as I usually tend to opt for breakfast outside as a means to support local, independent coffee shops/cafes etc. The hotel is close to the city centre and there are a few restaurants within walking distance as well as a large supermarket - fantastic location! Yes, the hotel does not have a lift so be mindful if you have a lot of luggage, however, this wouldn't put me off staying here again.

"Plough & Harrow"
Sussex_Simon_x, 14 Décembre 2021

Don't be put off by its location its a yomp to town but not too bad. Access to carmarthen tight when you swing off the main road. Generally peaceful except when there is Xmas party... thought it was in my room, so loud. Breakfast and service good only issues were leaky kettle and broken toilet flush. Disappointed that tea and milk in room were not replenished each day also no biscuits... expected as standard for hotels of this price!

"Best western!! More like terrible western"
O3087FBchrisr, 05 Décembre 2021

Where to start, this was a weekend trip for the Birmingham Xmas markets which turned sour due to the stay at this Best western hotel. When you first arrive nice building but once inside well as whole different ball game! Poorly looked after rooms, damp, bathrooms in a dire state and a fusty smell follows you around the whole place. Looks can deceive. Stayed in the what I can only describe as communist block of flats a wing at the end, which really does not compliment the hotel at all. Breakfast for the price they want well your better of going out for breakfast as it's shocking!! Burnt pan au chocolate oh and one out of the packet, fruit pots looked lack lustre as had bruises on and browning. The cooked breakfast well poor poor poor. Waited ten minutes to be served at one point and a longer wait for tea as well as butter for toast. Advertised as Buffett breakfast on the site but only granted one of each item, then when asking for a hash brown was raw in the middle! I would not recommend this best western to anyone visiting Birmingham.

"Lovely stay close to the centre"
973kerryn, 06 Novembre 2021

Hotel is slightly dated (personally I liked the traditional feel) but nice and clean. Family room was large and warm, and breakfast was varied and tasty. We can't praise Emma enough for her friendliness, enthusiasm and helpfulness. We stayed here as we were going to the Christmas market, which was only a short walk away, and will be going back next month for a second visit.

Once you get past the front doors things come off the rails. Reception is run via a mobile phone, if you can get an answer. The room lurk in areas mirrored off a hobbit adventure, ie back of beyond. Bar opens when you can find someone to open it or run it, plus the quality of the breakfast would prevent any restaurant offering. In summation, over priced and worth looking elsewhere

"Wedding reception"
wcooke55, 11 Octobre 2021

Enjoyed our stay however the hotel doesn't have a lift so found it difficult to manage all the stairs. Hotel manager Emma works above and beyond her duties and shows her love for the hotel and guests. But she could do with more staff.

"Genesis event"
Elio M, 27 Septembre 2021

Thanks to all staff for a great stay in your hotel. Very nice place, architecture and furnishings. Anyway my best has been the "a long dreamed" english breakfast. Bright and spacious room. Coming for the Genesis' concert at Utilita Arena, I spent a very good time.

"Fantastic service!"
KEB888, 26 Septembre 2021

Fantastic service. We had to rearrange our stay several times due to Covid lockdowns. The staff were so helpful with this. We stayed in 3 very pleasant family rooms. Breakfast was delicious and again, the staff were so accommodating. They looked after us all, especially the 5 children in our group.

"Beautiful Old Hotel"
mKK7878, 21 Septembre 2021

I had a great stay here for work. I loved the old building, which used to be a coach house. The communal rooms are huge and easy to socially distance. It is a great location for central Birmingham and the universities. I went for a walk down the nearby canal which is beautiful. It is close to shops and local cafes. The building is old fashioned, but I enjoyed the charm of it. My room in the newer part of the building was huge and comfortable with a sofa. I'll be staying here again! The only thing I would say is that the breakfast should be more accommodating for veggies and vegans. The main offering is a full english, though you can have a "continental" breakfast of croissants, fruit, cereal and yoghurt.

"Great value for money"
Triskelion123, 19 Septembre 2021

The hotel is built in a mixture of styles, partly Gothic but with modern well equipped rooms. It is slightly dated but everything and everywhere is clean and well maintained. It is currently short staffed - the very pleasant receptionist turned up as the coffee and tea waitress the following morning. Breakfast was good and staff polite and engaging. Great value at £65 including breakfast.

"Dreadful!"
peterf897, 17 Septembre 2021

We are on the second of a two night stay whilst visiting family in Birmingham. The room (211) is very tired and dark. The public areas are filthy with a layer of dirt and dust on most surfaces. Today the room was not serviced, so the bed was not made, towels were not replaced and the hospitality tray is bereft of milk etc. Value for money is dreadful, we paid just under £100 a night for something that would put a cheap hostel to shame. If booking with Booking.com beware you will be ripped of to park your car at the rate of £8 a night. Yes once informed of this surcharge on arrival, I checked the website and it is hidden toward the bottom of the page. 5he bar closes early, 9pm. This was once a superb hotel but the current management team clearly have little or no interest in the standards presented to guests. My advice stay away! I awarded one star because for some reason it is not possible to award zero.

"Under delivered"
ReviewPhew, 12 Septembre 2021

Awful breakfast... Loud noises coming from outside, poorly insulated room. Shower was underpowered and basically unusable. Decor was dated. Parking was expensive, should be free. Generally disappointed with the hotel, very underwhelming experience.

"Father Son Bonding Trip"
markpclifford, 29 Août 2021

Great breakfast. Location perfect for Cadbury world - Black Country living museum - Bullring shopping centre - Molineux stadium all only a max of 20 mins drive. Even nipped down to lemington spa 55 mins away to visit the British Motor Museum

"Overnight stay"
ronniemoir, 26 Août 2021

I found the staff very welcoming both at reception and at breakfast. The breakfast was very good, freshly cooked with plenty of choice. The hotel is located in a Central part of the City, with plenty of restaurants and bars close by

"Decent room but poor check in experience"
M T, 16 Août 2021

Check in staff member failed to recognise Elite membership status, despite]me showing him my membership card and placing it on the table. The room was fully been paid for in advance on the BW website, however, the same member of staff insisted that it hadn't and wanted me to pay for the room (twice). I advised, it was booked online, all paid for etc - finally after 10 minutes, the staff member said it has all been paid for. I had to ask a few times for an upgrade (due to my Elite status), I was told that the hotel was fully booked and that no other rooms are available. The room itself was clean. Extra bonus with the on-site car park.

"Hotel for cricket!"
Denzil B, 11 Août 2021

Hotel a little tired but pleasant staff and good value for money. Breakfast and parking included if booked through Best Western. Booked for day at cricket. (About 35 minute walk) Parking available but on main bus route.

"Excellent friendly staff"
Saira73, 22 Juillet 2021

We stayed for one night prior to my daughters graduation. Such wonderful, friendly staff who made us feel so welcome. One of the hottest days of the year and so the rooms were very hot but a fan was provided and a request for iced water was no problem at all. Staff working in difficult circumstances and deserve high praise. Thank you very much!

"Brilliant staff"
Kate P, 22 Juillet 2021

The staff were professional, friendly and helpfu. We stayed over one night during the mini-heatwave in July - our first floor room had full evening sunshine and no air conditioning but a fan was soon provided. Bed was comfortable and bed linen good quality. The decor is perhaps a little dated but all was clean and tidy.

"Great value"
garrytaylor15, 21 Juillet 2021

I booked this hotel having stayed in the past to visit my son at Birmingham Uni. The hotel is close to Broad St, close to the Uni and has excellent parking that is included within the price. The staff could not help us enough, I did think how can they offer this service at this price. The rooms are a little tired but I was not booking a 5* hotel for a romantic weekend and I didn't pay that price. It was EXCELLENT value for money. Thanks

"Fantastic Hotel"
TWS954, 16 Juillet 2021

What a gem in the middle of Brum, well south of the city!! Perfect for cricket at Edgbaston & plenty of choices nearby for eats & shopping etc. A tad old & tired but that wasn't an issue to me as the comfort & cleanliness, most important issues to me, were brilliant. But the staff were the best I think, I've ever come across?? From the front desk on arrival, to breakfast where Paulette was grafting, to Jag & Gloria, serving, absolutely brilliant, polite & couldn't do enough for you!! I'm sure management at the P&H MUST know the quality of their staff here, if not, here's a clue!! I travel constantly around the world, when we're allowed & I really rate this place. I shall definitely be looking at this as 1st choice on my return to cricket in Brum after staying in various other decent hotels!! Delightful stay, just delightful!! Thanks ALL!!! TWS

"Close to canal network"
QLawns, 16 Juillet 2021

A delightful hotel, near city amenities offers lovely walks along the city canal, stopping for a cool drinks and friendly folk. Rooms clean, cool and roomy. Plenty of car park spaces at no extra charge. Would definitely visit again, great value.

"A great place to stay"
paulbI6946WO, 08 Juillet 2021

The hotel is in a great location and easy to locate. Plenty of spaces in the car park. The staff were exceptional, friendly and welcoming. We used Uber to get into the centre of Birmingham to access the restaurants and then avoided the congestion charge in the city centre. Room was extremely clean and comfortable.. Breakfast was really good. Hot food cooked for you and it was excellent. Nothing negative at all. Great place to stay for a visit to Birmingham.

"Friends as well as customers"
Paula E, 05 Juillet 2021

This was our second 'NOT' wedding weekend as a result of Covid and each time we have had to change our plans, Emma has patiently rearranged room bookings for us. This time, we (the would-be bride and groom, bridesmaids, maid of honour and our teenage children) decided to keep the booking anyway and enjoy a weekend in Birmingham. Emma treated us like old friends and the team went out of their way - as much as Covid restrictions allowed - to help us enjoy the weekend.

"Fab perfect near university for catch up with daughter"
David G, 05 Juin 2021

Amazing. Staff impeccable a delight and an asset to your team please pass our that's on. Room 4 and 212 G family. We stayed Friday 4.6 one night. We love old and architecture and rustic. Room needed air con but fan was an asset. Staff start end, breakfast staff gorgeous such a dedicated and friendly team. Worth every penny and so welcomed. Hope you are all ok and hope to stay soon over summer. Parking well worth it £8 super service and thank you all again. Just a mention to chain a few updates needed to make a perfect stay overall but impeccably clean but needs updating and you will benefit x

"Great room"
m0akley1, 13 Décembre 2020

Stayed in the suite, was more than I needed but was a great chance to relax before business. Wonderfully decorated and very clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend staying here when Covid restrictions are over

"Weekend away"
456lenf, 23 Octobre 2020

Hotel is of the highest standard, we had a free room upgrade, thanks to the lovely receptionist who looked after us. Perfect location for access to Birmingham City Centre. The room was excellent, the breakfast was very good, we were well looked after

"Wedding"
Boggymark, 05 Octobre 2020

Had wedding on Saturday 4th October 20.From our first meeting with Paul to our wedding organizer Emma, it was fantastic.Emma couldn't of done enough for us keeping me up to date with what was going on with covid 19 The meals was fantastic, hotel lovely the honeymoon suit was brilliant, big bedroom and next door our own suit plus a nice big bathroom. Had a really nice breakfast too. So I would highly recommend this hotel

"Not my type of place"
Desiderata019, 23 Septembre 2020

Some people might like this sort of place but it's a no for me. It's super dated and on opening the bathroom door, I was immediately greeted by the strong smell of urine. It wasn't a comfortable stay. I definitely won't be staying there again.

"Just like coming home"
Christine090813, 21 Septembre 2020

I have used this hotel many times when travelling for work. This is my first time back since covid hit, it is just like coming home. The staff extremely welcoming. All completely covid safe with everything in place you would expect. Highly recommended, especially if you're a lady travelling alone, I feel very safe.

"Convenient overnight stay"
JAF_Wales, 20 Septembre 2020

Stayed here due to proximity to Birmingham Uni and the lounge / bar area looks impressive and bedrooms are clean and spacious with comfortable beds. Bedrooms look a bit dated and there are a few stairs between reception and the rooms in the far wing. The guy on reception was very friendly and helpful - served behind the bar and appeared for breakfast duty too! A full English breakfast was cooked to order (rather than a buffet due to covid) which set us up for the day. There is plenty of car parking on site. It's a handy location to walk into city centre via the canals where there are lots of places to eat /drink.

"One Star hotel. If that"
Tilli4, 30 Août 2020

The room stinks as soon as you enter. I think there is mould in the room as I started having a running nose and asthma while I was there. The bath is dirty and don't even get me started on the shower curtain, yuck! you have to flush 4 time before the next person can use it. The carpets are filthy. Not worth the price. I won't be staying here again!

"Excellent stay"
annamG9300AM, 29 Août 2020

One night stay whilst visiting the city. From arrival to departure staff were excellent. Incredibly friendly and very helpful. Booked us a taxi for meal out in the evening and opened the bar for us despite having to also man the main reception. Room was very clean and spacious. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order, kids particularly enjoyed the muffins and the croissants were delicious. Special thanks to Taylor for excellent customer service.

"Great stay once again"
Blaze29, 11 Août 2020

Stayed again 3rd time in a row for our anniversary only this time it was during Covid 19 the hotel was lovely and clean with sanitizer stations around and the man on reception was really nice and helpful .We really like this hotel and will be returning yet again .

"Mr and mrs b"
564anthonyb, 23 Mars 2020

Its ok & that's about it really. Expensive bar whis is ok if you get the service but 3 people behind bar & 6 people waiting = 15 minutes..come on now that's appalling..breakfast was ok but felt it was all over heated so very dry..room was passable in old part of hotel which looked dreadful from the outside..need a map to find your way from bar to these rooms..2 star at best for this place really..they have theme nights on which is what we were doing but not enough seating before you go into main room so me & my wife had to stand for 40 mins & the meal was decent but felt I needed fish & chips after it as portions were very small..we would think about going to another theme night but would probably check out better hotels in area..

"Coronavirus"
Leesharp0688, 19 Mars 2020

Due to the Coronavirus and self isolating we had to cancel our stay I asked for our money back and was told no as they are still running a business Also I'm guessing there as been other cancellations so we was not even offered another date to come back Gutted as I've just lost my job because of this Coronavirus Didn't stop there and never will now

"One night stay"
28Phoenix, 17 Mars 2020

Our room was the superior double, it was ok for the cheap price (~£60) it was about what you'd expect. It looked alright to start with but actually as time went by noticed it wasn't very clean, staining high up on walls and fag ends on the flat roof that was our "view" that someone had obviously smoked and chucked out the window. To be honest I booked this room based on the fact it was close to my destination and had free parking HOWEVER on arrival this has been changed and now parking is £8/night. They really should honour the bookings made when they had free parking advertised at the time of booking- they've now changed the webpage to say "chargeable" bit cheeky really, and doesn't leave a great first/last impression. Wouldn't stay again.

"Birthday celebrations"
lorraine n, 15 Mars 2020

Overnight stay for family party in Birmingham nice room good service But the breakfast i would give 1 out of 10 very disappointed Also we were told when booking in we were told parking was £8.00 even though it said free parking on the website recommend ? Double check before booking

"Great staff but disappointing breakfast "
Rachel D, 09 Mars 2020

Stayed here for one night before my son's interview at Birmingham City University. Great location and plenty of parking (although you pay £8 a night). We chose it due to its close proximity to the University. Staff were very friendly and professional. The room was a little tired but functional. The only disappointment was breakfast. The scrambled egg was over cooked and the sausages had an unpleasant taste. It was expensive at £10 each.

"Little details matter.. as do first impressions."
phylsmith2204, 05 Mars 2020

I stayed here about 25 years ago when it was a very good hotel. The intervening years have seen standards slide I'm afraid. The building itself is still lovely but be careful not to sail passed the entrance if driving. Checking in set the tone I'm afraid. 1st impressions are so important. The process was quick and easy enough but the chap on the front desk was to be blunt, an untidy mess. Shirt and trousers only, shirt creased and literally hanging out. The room was fine, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom was wonderful. Breakfast was standard fare which is absolutely fine if there are no issues...which there were unfortunately a couple of, like the 2nd cup of coffee being tepid at best. An apparent rationing of baked beans and watery poached eggs but specifically the bacon which I requested to be very well done was literally served as 'medium". The hotel building is quite grand and has numerous lovely character period features, but overall the decor looks tired.. looks dated, in need of uplifting & updating. Unfortunately the heavy curtain in the dining room (breakfast room) is frankly stained and filthy and although not close to food it's just not the impression you want your customers to have, or at least shouldn't be. Checking out.. faultless. Lady was polite, swift and courteous (as had been the gentleman at Check in) but was perfectly presented as you would expect. The stay was fine. As I said, it's the little details which can make a huge difference. Details that really should be standard practice imho. Get those sorted and corrected and BW would have an absolute gem of an hotel on their books.. but currently its average which is a shame. Luckily I got it on a good deal tbh so was left feeling too dejected overall.

"Good value, comfy, near the City centre"
SepiaJean, 29 Février 2020

We enjoyed a two night stay here so we could explore the centre of Birmingham. The decor is a little tired but our room was clean and comfortable. The staff we met were all very nice and helpful. There are lots of stairs and no lift but assistance in taking our suitcase to the room was offered on checking in. Parking is behind a barrier for which you're given a code to exit it. Breakfast is help yourself to cereals, fruit juice and toast while the cooked breakfast is ordered via the waitress. All served nice and hot! Tea & coffee is served to you on request by the waitress/waiter.

"Short business trip"
iancraw4d, 28 Février 2020

For the centre of Birmingham this was actually a good experience. I'm often a little worried about old style Best Western hotels, but this one was a pleasant surprise. First was the car park, with security barrier - excellent. Next was the pleasant enough reception and with all important quick check in - good. Then the nice surprise of the lounge, bar and dining area - really quite good for an old hotel. Bit of a maze of corridors to get to the bedroom, but large size room, modernised enough, although still a little dated, but still smart and warm. Good sized clean bathroom with shower - all good, with toilet AND free ear plugs. The hotel is on a main road into the city, but I didn't really hear too much noise. The dining room was well decorated, with reasonable choice from the menu. Not the cheapest, but well cooked and tasty. Same applied for breakfast. So all in all a really pleasant surprise for an old BW hotel.

"Worst afternoon tea I've ever had"
Weezcheese, 21 Février 2020

We had an afternoon tea voucher which we redeemed here and it was worst afternoon tea I've had. I don't have an image of the sandwiches because we ate them so quickly - very mediocre ham, smoked salmon and egg, and enough for one full sandwich each. The scones were very disappointing - see image. They were cold, flat and hard. The two bits of cake each were tiny, and whilst they tasted nice, they lasted 30 seconds. There were enough tea, but I was surprised to be given two tea bags to sort myself - I was expecting loose leaf. There was very little atmosphere in the room, either. I've had afternoon tea in many different places, and it's always an experience: lovely fresh tea, plenty of food and you go away feeling really satisfied. We were still hungry. If it wasn't for me slowing my partner down and savour what was there, he would have finished his portion in under 5 mins. Checking the gift website afterwards, we were supposed to have award-winning tea, mini macarons and eclairs. There was nothing of the sort. I'm embarrassed to tell my sister, who bought us the voucher, how terrible it was. I wish we'd chosen somewhere else.

"Lovely hotel with fabulous staff"
Jaene B, 02 Février 2020

Stayed at this hotel last week with colleagues whilst working in Birmingham. The building is Grade 2 listed and very stylish. Our rooms were in the newer annex which isn't quite as stylish but once inside, our rooms were very pleasant and spacious. What really made our stay though was the delightful and friendly staff. Everyone was so helpful. Kevin was on reception quite a bit and in the bar. He helped me with my case as there isn't a lift and I knew I was going to struggle a bit up the stairs. He helped with directions, keeping us informed about the road resurfacing closures etc and was so committed to his job. Annie was my room maid and she did a fabulous job looking after me. The poached eggs and mushrooms for breakfast were divine. The chef came out to speak to us and again, was so very pleasant and friendly. Overall we all agreed that the hotel is very well kept and run and we look forward to staying there again

"Great stay at the Plough and Harrow Birmingham"
Connector50087306453, 30 Janvier 2020

The Plough and Harrow hotel is a building with great character, lovely old building, rooms are spacious clean, very comfortable bed, not tried the wi fi so cannot comment on that, hotel car park is secure with plenty of spaces. hotel is well located to local restaurants and just a short walk to Birmingham Broad street. we will stay again, well worth a try.

"Fawlty Towers in Fawlty Towers!!"
Wriggs1991, 26 Janvier 2020

Entertained my family by taking them to Del Boys 50th birthday party in a "Fawlty Towers Dining Experience". Enjoyable evening, however the service was so dissapointing. Firstly tried to get a waiter/watress to take a wine order at our table - nobody available so back to the bar. However, no wine list because wines are all changing and they may not have what is on the list. So conversation unfolds as follws. Well, what have you got? I don't know. So how am I going to choose a wine? Well what wine would you like? 3 not in stock selections later - where do you keep the wines? I will find out. 5 minutes later - can I buy that bottle of Portillo? Yes you may and deal done!! Back to the table - may I have another bread roll please? Sorry, we have run out. Back to the bar - may we have another bottle of Portillo please; sorry we don't have any more Portillo. But they did have a particularly average Rioja for just over £25! Only two bar staff who performed as if it was their first night and led to long delays in getting served. Conclusion - not what I would expect from the P&H a hotel that had an excellent reputation last century, but is now tired, dated and in need of investment in areas such as staff training, customer service, decor and health and safety (on show electric wires to appliances repaired with insulation tape - really!!??). It really was the P&H living up to the Fawlty Towers billing; but it didn't detract from the good fun evening we had with the "Fawlty Towers Dining Experience".

"Fawlty Towers"
Matt A, 25 Janvier 2020

I have not stayed at this hotel so cannot comment on rooms etc. I did attend a "Fawlty Towers" themed evening here last night and based on my experience, would not visit the venue again. The very long time to get served at the bar, and then getting served only to find out they had run out of glasses? I did not see much of the act due to the poor service/waiting time at the bar. My main meal which I assume was hot when it came out was barely luke warm by the time I got to eat it due to the length of waiting time. I began to wonder if the poor service was in fact part of the act, being a Fawlty Towers night

"Nice hotel , pleasant staff and good value"
Ian R, 22 Janvier 2020

Stayed here o/n on business , nice easy check in and process, nice rooms, although the pillows were as flat as flat could be, didn't stop a good nights sleep, nice breakfast. All in all a pleasant experience.

"Office Christmas Party"
VickyP77, 09 Janvier 2020

I had booked our office Christmas party at the Plough and Harrow through the lovely Emma who is the Events Manager. Emma was super quick and responsive if I had any queries. We had booked an All Inclusive Party night and you could not fault the drinks package at all. My whole party confirmed that the were more than happy with the drinks within the package. (The quality and the quantity) :) The hotel was extremely festive and the staff were all polite and quick to serve you. Our main meal was exactly what we expected, a hot, nicely cooked and presented dinner and a delicious dessert. If there was one thing that we commented on that perhaps could be improved would have been the starters. The selection of starters was placed on a main table and you collected your own whilst having pre-dinner drinks in the bar. This became a bit of "scrum" as people rushed and stayed in front of the table making it difficult to gain access. The DJ managed to get everyone on the dance floor straight after dinner and the dance floor stayed full all night. I would not hesitate to recommend the Plough for a function! Thank you for a fun evening.

"Average Stay"
brent k, 05 Janvier 2020

Great location.Old style hotel. We had interconnecting rooms which we did nit like. You could hear everything from the next room.Bar prices are expensive. Rooms were very adequate and comfortable. Breakfast coul have been better. Not a bad place, good value but could improve a little. Staff were great.

"A stop over for a Rock gig on the way to Bristol"
Jenn O, 02 Janvier 2020

The room was at the back in an older part of the hotel. The windows were metal and not soundproof at all. Traffic could be heard on a nearby main road. The furnishings were old, the curtains didnt reach the window ledge. Breakfast was expensive so we didnt eat here. The cost for drinks were overpriced, a pint of lager and a lemonade cost £10. The staff were friendly enough.

"Christmas family meal"
C4846ERkatek, 31 Décembre 2019

We had our Christmas family gathering here on 29th Dec 2019. It was fantastic! Excellent service from start to finish. The booking process, the food, the staff, the setting, all exactly as was promised. Thank you to all the staff. Kate

"Extremely disappointing"
shirleylarge1, 20 Décembre 2019

We booked a room for 3 adults. The second bed was a very uncomfirtable sofa bed. We complained about the very thin mattress ad asked if we could change rooms. We could not instead the staff put a duvet on the mattress which made little difference. The restaurant was not open on the two nights of our stay.

"Stay here!!"
MissCB123, 13 Décembre 2019

We had vouchers for a stay from a friend as a gift. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. Staff were friendly and efficient. The meals were delicious, breakfast was plentiful. Our room was clean and well furnished. Would stay again.

"Great spot just close enough "
jillK205, 12 Décembre 2019

Came for short stay and could not fault the friendliness and cleanliness of the hotel great breakfast too unbelievable for the price if you book in advance. A little dated some would say I would say perfect for me I don't want plastic and everything whitewashed . Will stay again

"Helpful and courteous staff"
wendygK450MZ, 28 Novembre 2019

We needed a central venue with good parting to hold an impromptu meeting with a group of norwegian students and chose the Plough and Harrow. It was quite short notice but they were brilliant. The building itself is impressive and furnished very comfortably. They quickly organised a public space for our discussions, laid on tea coffee and biscuits at a very reasonable cost and their staff helped to direct our visitors in a friendly and efficient manner. If this is the standard of service for an adhoc meeting I would highly recommend them as a serious choice for business meetings, conferences and business dinners. They really were excellent.

"Fabulous wedding for daughter and son in law hosted at Plough and Harrow November 2019"
Mumofbride25, 25 Novembre 2019

Staff were ultra helpful, rooms large and warm. Dream winter wedding all in one venue. Paul, Emma, Tom, Alesha and Saul were such supportive staff all weekend and looked out for all the details of our family wedding. The secure small function room for decorations and presents was wonderful. Special thanks to Saul and his team for a magical clear of the wedding function room at midnight -all stacked and ready for our final sort out on Su day morning. Staff were all so kind and patient, and helped with everything to make it a fabulous occasion. A huge thank you

"Good for a business stay"
PanamaHat1989, 20 Novembre 2019

Large clean and comfortable room. All a little dated, but clearly very well maintained, which is always promising to see. Mattress felt a bit saggy, perhaps due for renewal? Top class toiletries were a nice surprise, added to the excellent water pressure made a lovely relaxing bath. A warm welcome at reception and agreed to let me leave my car there whilst I went to work for the day, much appreciated. Friendly, fast, and relaxed service in the bar/restaurant, and lovely food, excellent steak at a reasonable price.

"Very Comfortable"
amie_white, 17 Novembre 2019

Stayed last night for the night in a superior room (117). It was comfortable and clean with all the usual amenities. The bathroom looked brand new. Very modern, smart with under floor heating, very clean with a brilliant shower and lovely little toiletries. The bed was very comfortable. Can't fault it really. Staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. Free parking and in a good location, just a short walk away from the centre. I would recommend the Plough & Harrow.

"Better out than in"
Marianne H, 16 Novembre 2019

Looks amazing as you arrive, although tricky to access via the road. Reception very helpful and room was very spacious and clean. Car parking very good. However, we were disappointed to find that the majority of rooms are accessed up stairs and along a number of wide corridors akin to an eighties office facility- tired/bland decor, with no character. The room was the same, very uninspiring. Good bathroom facilities but really didn't need to hear the people in the next room going to the toilet/coughing via the vent. Breakfast was a disappointment. Staff are not slick nor coordinated and did not explain some items on the menu could only be ordered whilst some were self service- most hot food had run out and the tea offering was one luke-warm cup, given the room was only c 20% capacity having to keep ask for things became wearing. Staff are there to serve not stand or chat or disappear into the kitchen. Hotel was not as expected and the Premier Inn down the road is better presented and has a much better breakfast experience.

"Decent Hotel in a Good Location"
Timmy_Hughes, 05 Novembre 2019

Spent an evening here whilst on business in Birmingham. This hotel certainly offers value for money. The room prices are good and the room I had was very nice and quiet at the back of the premises. Breakfast was superb and the bar seems very nice. The building is quite quirky with a mix of old at the front and modern at the rear. Location very good for walking up to Broad Street and beyond for bars and restaurants. Car Parking is also free which is a bonus as you get closer in to the centre of the city.

"Overnight stay with family"
carlfawcett1, 03 Novembre 2019

Rooms a little out dated, great service from the staff. Overall gods value but the rooms could do with updating very old furniture, would have to think twice before booking here again as there are other options available for similar money.

"Very average"
Rachey27, 03 Novembre 2019

Firstly the positives - couldn't fault the reception staff. Check in and check out were smooth. Receptionists were very friendly. Restaurant staff were lovely. That's about it for the good stuff. The hotel looks lovely from the outside. Until you realise the old school looking building attached to the nice building is also part of the hotel. And the part we were staying in we discovered. It was a long walk to our room which isn't a problem but the whole hotel seemed disjointed and nothing flowed. Our room (209 I think?) was old and dated. Dirty carpets with stains everywhere. Old fashioned dark furniture with ridiculous amounts of storage. The bathroom was old and tired, the ceiling looked damp. The area around the basin was old and dirty. The weird vent in the bathroom meant we could hear everything in the bathroom next door (and I mean everything). The pressure in the shower was non existent. The bedroom was freezing cold and we weren't allowed to touch the radiator! We assumed the heating would come on later but at 1.30am when we got back to our room it was still like a freezer in there. Breakfast was very average. But again the staff serving were lovely. Had we only spent £50 on the hotel then I wouldn't have minded at all. But at £120 a night I don't think the hotel is up to the standard it should be. The whole thing needs a returb.

"Daughter's adventures "
emjayboy, 02 Novembre 2019

Stayed for one night 28th october . nice and quiet . The only negatives we have were that the sofa bed felt like you were laying on the springs as the mattress was threadbare. No foam under the ironing board cover and the walls really could of done with a lick of paint . Other than that convenient for our stay and our onward journey .

"An excellent hotel situated in the heart of Birmingham. Just off the city centre on the edge of Edgebaston."
TaffL6, 01 Novembre 2019

Entrance is on main road with hotel set back in the grounds. Secure parking is free with a pin controlled barrier. Clean and spacious rooms, with all facilities provided. Short walk to city centre, with large supermarket 2 mins walk. Situated opposite the Spearmint Rhino club for those who know what that is. Highly recommended.

"Business "
kim B, 21 Octobre 2019

Arrived at hotel and I am a loyalty customer. Room is fine if a little dated but the menu was a different thing. Ordered olives and Piri Piri chicken and salad. Was told that the Piri Piri chicken was off so ordered chicken salad. About 5 minutes later was told that they didn't have enough chicken to make chicken salad- it was 7.30pm so ordered steak and salad. The olives never turned up then I was brought a steak that must have been from a cow that died of old age- totally inedible and full of sinews. Ended up having a bag of crisps which is not what I want or expect after a long day of travelling and working. Would definitely never stay here again or recommend anyone else does unless they eat out. I work away every day of the week and have never had such an awful experience with food - not what you want at the end of a very long day

"Our wedding day."
B2029IAjohny, 16 Octobre 2019

We got married here on the 13th and it was amazing. The wedding breakfast was perfect the staff truly could not do enough for us and our guests. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were so comfortable. The buffet style breakfast the next morning was great with eggs cooked to order.

"Awesome staff"
graduatewithme2, 14 Octobre 2019

Wedding Planner at this hotel for a lovely couple. Stayed at this hotel and was a bit shocked that there was no lift that spoilt my view straight away, but to compensate this the staff here are awesome. Beautiful lobby surrounding with beautiful mirrors and a piano, doors then leading into the Terrence restaurant room, where weddings/parties are kept. Need to big up Saul, Emma, Tanin, Alesha and all the waitress oh and not forgetting the chefs. Saul I cannot keep praising as he went over and abound his duties to assistant in every way, excellent this man deserves an award.

"Comfortable in a good location "
Kelvin T, 12 Octobre 2019

Stayed while working in Birmingham very comfortable slightly dated built in furniture but it had style in its day and would be very expensive to replace nowadays but all inallvery functional comfortable rooms and a great location and carpark.

"Sufficient for our needs"
patbeckley, 08 Octobre 2019

Staff lovely, very helpful. Had a meal in the restaurant which was very nice. Room basic but comfortable. Stayed here while husband was in QE hospital. They ordered us a taxi which arrived on time, unlike the one I ordered to take us from hospital to hotel. Very convenient. Morrison just up the road and parking provided which is a bonus.

"Gluten free afternoon tea "
79hollyh, 06 Octobre 2019

I went to afternoon tea here with my mom! It was the best gluten afternoon tea I've had!! The sandwiches were delicious on soft bread! An array of great, soft cakes and a scone each. The best gluten free scone I've had! Unlimited tea or coffee and enough food to fill two! We got a groupon deal for £20, so keep.your eyes pealed!! The staff were so attentive and were aware of allergens!! And super friendly 100% recommend!!

"Good value"
David H, 05 Octobre 2019

The good points are, the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable , staff are attentive and welcoming , the prices are reasonable and an excellent location , not so good is the food , we were quite a large family party , the evening meal consisted mainly a choice of burgers and skinny fries , the breakfasts are poorly cooked and vastly overpriced , my niece was charged £14.50 for a bowl of porridge and a cup of tea, she did get a refund! The hotel is welcoming but long walks to rooms and no lifts , so not for the unfit

"Breakfast was not great"
katelY9936NH, 24 Septembre 2019

The lady on check in was very friendly and informative. The hotel has retained it's old style features which gives it character. The room had plenty of storage space and was clean. The bathroom needed a little tlc as the grouting was stained in places. I don't like detachable showers above baths, but that is just a personal thing. There needed to be a light above the dressing table as the room was too dark for doing make up and the table lamp did not assist much. Fortunately I had brought my own lighted mirror. The bar staff were good and the outside seating area was a pleasant surprise. My biggest issue was that the breakfast, in my opinion, was not great. The bacon looked dry, there was no cold meats as listed on the menu, there was no plain yoghurt only fruit ones and the choice of breads and pastries was limited. The croissants were warm and very flaky and light though. I would rate this as good as opposed to average but you can't give three and a half and I couldn't give very good.

"Great location to explore Birmingham!"
Robin L, 18 Septembre 2019

My daughter and I stayed here as she had studied at the University of Birmingham and she wanted to show me around. Easy walk to campus and great location for checking out other areas. Very friendly and helpful staff!

"Murder Mystery with a Mystery"
Barry D, 17 Septembre 2019

Stayed here for the murder mystery evening which was very enjoyable. The staff was very pleasant, the food was good and the room clean and tidy and the bed was so comfortable. Here is the mystery after reading the write up it says plenty of gins but there was on four on offer. We arrived early afternoon and the two ladies wanted a cocktail but we're told they do not do cocktails although it is advertised you can get cocktails

"OK....But Could Have Been Better"
John M, 12 Septembre 2019

FIrstly, after, reading the website. we expected a "Country House" style in the leafy suburbs....it wasn`t. The hotel is situated on a very busy road on the edge of Birmingham City centre, but there is ample secure parking. The front part of the building is old and very "Country House" (JRR Tolkien stayed there in 1916) and I have to say, very nice. After the disappointment of seeing the actual location of the hotel, this was a pleasant surprise. We checked in and were given our room number. At the rear of the hotel is a modern (1970`s/80`s??) extention and it turns out that our room was there, but it was a route march to get there. We asked if there was a room available in the old part. This would involve paying for an upgrade, which we were happy to do, but as there was going to be a wedding on the Saturday, we were told that it would be noisy in the room as it was directly above. We were given another room in the extension which was closer to the reception etc. The room itself was a reasonable size and quite well equipped but looked very tired...as indeed was the whole extension. The biggest problem with the room (and again, the extension) was that it was cold! You are unable to adjust the heating in the room (it is supposedly set at 21 degrees I think) and we had to contact Reception if we wanted it warmer. Reception sent a plug-in radiator to our room, but as the electric switches off when you leave the room, this was a bit hit-and-miss. The food in the Restaurant was OK, but not exceptional...the menu was, in my opinion, a little bit limited. Prices however, were reasonable. Breakfast was very good, with a varied "Help-Yourself" buffet and a good "Full-English" option. The staff were uniformly excellent....couldn`t fault any of them! We didn`t hate our stay there. We chose it because location-wise it was ideal for what we wanted to do while we were there but sadly, the abiding memory that we will have of the hotel is the cold! As the title says....It was OK.....But Could Have been Better.

"Great stay at the Best Western Plough and Harrow"
Connector50087306453, 08 Septembre 2019

The Plough and Harrow is in ideal location to walk into Birmingham, secure parking with great rooms they are clean tidy and spacious with very comfortable beds, very good wifi service over all its a good hotel with very friendly staff.

"Tired"
pam22281, 27 Août 2019

When we parked up we noticed the obvious contrast of accommodation on our left was the impressive grade listed building and in front and to the left what looked like social housing flats. After checking in we felt let down by the dated appearance of our room with dreary brown furniture and a stained bed base that had not been hoovered under for a while as you could see by the contrast on the carpet, the pull out tea making shelf revealed a rather dusty layer beneath it, you had to be quite strong to open each of the blurry stained windows a few inches with a not so good view of the other apartments? and office block opposite. We were pleased by the room maid who did a very efficient job the towels etc were changed on all the three days we stayed there.

"Excellent surpassed expectation"
anthonymartinn, 25 Août 2019

This hotel was a great find, easy to locate, close to city centre & free parking. Lovely looking building, receptionist very welcoming and informative. We were slightly concerned that there was a wedding reception & disco that evening, but we were assured the music would end at midnight, which it did and our room was located away from the event which was very thoughtful of the person who allocated the room. Room was great, would have benefited from air con (it was 28 deg and sticky a fan was available but pushing hot air around didn't help) aircon would have been better. Breakfast was excellent and staff again really welcoming, place was very clean and great value! Thank you

"Very nice, slightly hidden gem"
elashworth, 20 Août 2019

We booked this hotel as a last minute trip to visit birmingham and have a canal boat trip. The hotel is lovely, a nice building character building surrounded by newer and imposing buildings. Upon check in we were greeted by a lovely lady, who was very friendly and tried to talk to my son. He has autism and rarely speaks to new people but her lovely attitude actually made him reply and tell her his name. She helped us with bus information and where to get off to get to the canal. We went out for the rest of the day and returned about 7to8pm. There was a huge 1st birthday party on taking up the whole floor of the hotel, we asked if the 'pub' part was open, it wasnt but there was one set of free chairs next to the main area bar, so we took that. The lad on the bar was lovely, welcoming and helpful. As mentioned before my son has autism and found the music a little to loud after a while, but we had his ear defenders so we could still stay in the bar area and play cards and lego. We ordered 1 room service breakfast as our son found breakfast with strangers too much, this was nice. Porridge wasnt nice but the rest was okay. However we were charged for 2 breakfasts at check out but this was rectified when queried. We would stay here again as it has a car park, the staff are the jewels in this place and it's just a short bus ride to the canal area.

"Fantastic stay!"
srose874712, 12 Août 2019

Love this hotel. Very friendly reception staff who went out of their way to help. Room was very comfortable and quiet. Fantastic location as is so close to Broad Street and Brindley Place. Can't wait to stay here again!

"Beautiful hotel ideal location"
Blaze29, 09 Août 2019

A lovely hotel stayed in by Tolkien himself a lovely warm welcome always ,communal areas are stunning and the bedrooms are clean tidy and comfortable good for the price .We have stayed here a few times and can highly recommend.

"Nice n Easy place to stay"
John P, 03 Août 2019

In the world's most confusing city it is easy to find this hotel. You do not want to try and drive in Birmingham. Dump your car in their capacious car park and ask them to arrange a short cab ride to the city centre. Very agreeable welcome on reception. Chatty and prompt help in the bar and restaurant. It's a good value, clean, medium grade hotel. Stayed with my grandson who found nothing wrong except he does not like salad garnish!

"Needs updating"
jrainf910920, 26 Juillet 2019

The communal areas of the hotel are nice, this unfortunately is not replicated in the bedrooms. Room was very dusty and far too many cupboards with no purpose just eats into the space. Taps mixed up in room 10 meant hot water came out when our 5 year old had turned the cold tap! A previous occupier of the room had left the same feedback- we know this because their feedback leaflet was left in the room contains personal info (we gave this back to reception and explained a) the data protection issue and b) they'd stayed 5 days before and the problem still hasn't been addressed. The vent in the bathroom carries noise so we could hear other residents conversations! We asked for a cot on check in at 4pm, at 8pm it hasn't been delivered so we had to chase this up as it was required. We were asked at check in if we required breakfast, at that time we weren't too sure of plans for the next morning so didn't add it, however the next morning wished to add it and the price was 1/3 more expensive.. why that is I don't know? I think £15 pp for breakfast is excessive for buffet style and no option to get anything else, coffee and toast?. We went over to Morrison's Cafe a short walk away, good quality and fairly priced. All in all a disappointing stay.

"Very nice stay in Birmingham"
L2837RXgrahamc, 25 Juillet 2019

Reception staff were courteous and helpful and made us feel welcome. Room was nice and large and clean. Bathroom had been recently updated and clean. Room was hot but so was the weather and a fan was already in the room.....perfect. The bed was so comfortable that my wife managed to sleep through the worst thunderstorm the country had experienced in years!! Breakfast was very good with the usual hot breakfast items. Check out was quick and efficient with very friendly staff all round. Would definately recommend this hotel for a city centre stay.

"Graduation "
rmtillot, 18 Juillet 2019

We've stayed regularly at the hotel over the past few years. It never disappoints for value, friendly helpful staff and fantastic breakfast. The full English has quality ingredients and the staff are very attentive. Great location for the university and city centre access. Not sure when we will be back again but if we are in Brum we will return here.

"Lovely nights sleep"
GaryMoody, 13 Juillet 2019

Like most Best Westerns this hotel is sited in a lovely old building, that gives pros and cons, beautiful hotel but a rabbit Warren inside rarely with lifts so you have to carry luggage up and down many stairs Aside from that, this is a great hotel; my room (10) was large, warm and comfortable; the shower was powerful and the breakfast was very good-it's also very well suited, just a short stroll from Broad Street Overall a great night and I'll be back

"Afternoon Tea"

"enjoyable staff, helpful reception staff"
caral2013, 07 Juillet 2019

Stayed with friends July 2019 Location: Ideal location for us as we were attending an event at Botanical Gardens Birmingham so not far at all (few minutes ride by Uber from our hotel). Hotel: Complimentary parking for residents. Pleasant appearance, interesting that JR Tolkien once stayed here! Room were clean, a little warm but pleasant. Breakfast was fine with standard English breakfast items. Staff: All very professional friendly and helpful. A huge special thank you to Alesha at Reception :) for helping out with room allocation and kindly adjusting the twin room to a double room and giving us advice about location of rooms. Served as a good base for us and our needs.

"Cricket weekend"
LindaP2160, 02 Juillet 2019

We booked this hotel owing to proximity to the cricket ground. Good parking which was very useful in an unfamiliar area especially as everywhere was busy. Room very warm on arrival (hot day!) but fan quickly provided. Nice bathroom Large bed, comfortable although mattress quite firm. Staff were very friendly and helpful

"Very helpful, friendly staff and clean hotel"
SFLTM08, 30 Juin 2019

We stayed in the main older building which was tastefully decorated and in keeping with the building. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. No dodgy tiles, grouting etc. The customer care was excellent and the staff very friendly. We ate breakfast at the hotel and that was plentiful and of a good standard. Something to keep in mind. The building is situated on a main road and traffic was nose to tail when we arrived just after four. Furthermore, on arrival we ordered a taxi for 6.30pm and that was twenty minutes late due to the traffic, which was still nose to tail. Not something that should put anyone off staying here, just a heads up re evening timings. There was no issue the following morning. One and only criticism of the hotel, and believe me it couldn't otherwise be faulted, were the uncomfortable pillows. Both my partner and I struggled with them. But that's subjective. Different pillows and it would be a perfect 5.

"Friendly and helpful staff"
Wander66476818947, 25 Juin 2019

Very friendly and helpful staff, we stayed to go to concert at the arena so this was a very good location and there was a bus stop just a short distance from hotel but there is plenty of local taxi's, very clean rooms and everything you need for a weekend stay, breakfast was really good and plenty of different choices.

"Bridal party."
N2992YQjackiec, 23 Juin 2019

The hotel itself was perfect location for our stay and is presented well. Beautiful building. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or polite during what was obviously a very busy weekend for them. We received a discount for our meal as they had ran out of a few things on the menu. They were very professional and apologetic about it. Our party of guests was a bridal group and although we had to check out at 11am, the hotel allowed us to use one of their conference rooms to stay until our wedding. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The rooms were clean and just right for our needs.

"Nice short stay"
erikvanvliet, 21 Juin 2019

Whilst visiting Birmingham for the World Cup cricket checked in for a short stay at this hotel Friendly very cooperative staff , good breakfast and relative good room with a sofa bed accommodating three adults Certainly recommendable

"Dismal hotel"
Baydweller09, 12 Juin 2019

Stayed for one unseasonally cold, wet June night when visiting Symphony Hall. A miserable experience not helped by there being a noisy drunken hen party in the bar when we returned at 10.30pm.. This must have been a grand old building - once! It appears to have been knocked about and revamped (badly), probably many years back. Has it had a lick of paint or have the carpets been renewed or even deep cleaned since the 1970s? The whole place smelt musty, damp and dirty. Our bedroom carpet was threadbare to the point of being almost see-through! Bed was clean and comfortable. Bathroom clean, basic, but old fashioned. Our first floor room, was along several corridors in a dismal annexe. Freezing cold until a radiator came on later that night. It was so hot as to be untouchable. Couldn't turn it off. The control switch was hanging off it! A huge yellow sign warned guests not to tamper with it. I'm not suprised! We opened a window when we went to bed as it was too hot. Then the radiator went off - so we froze! This is one of the most dismal places we have ever stayed. Don't know what breakfast was like, we didn't bother. Receptionist at checkout was very pleasant.

"Worst Best Western I've stayed in."
Olicanan, 09 Juin 2019

Simply not up to standard. After checking we wended our way through the old part of the hotel across an uneven floor with boards so loose I thought we may actually fall through, and into the horrific 1960's extension that had all the charm of a multi-story car park. The room was hot and airless. There was massive warning sign on the wall about the armageddon that would result if we so much as looked at the radiator valve. Instead we needed to contact Reception to get the heating turned down - no aircon. They claimed to have reduced it, but we couldn't feel any difference, even after opening the window - limited to an opening of about 3 inches, health and safety, you know. Service at the bar was so slow I was tempted to nip round the corner to the off licence. Breakfast was a shambles. We were seated at a half laid table and left to get on with it. The self-service buffet kept running out of things and the antique toaster was never going to cope. Terminal decline, I think.

"Cadbury world"
M5MGcharlesd, 04 Juin 2019

Friendly hotel very helpful staff food was nice and well presented. The hotel was very clean and well presented not to far from Cadbury world the hotel has its own car park with security barriers the room was clean and tidy with a view over the garden.

"Plough Harrow Birmingham"
Connector50087306453, 19 Mai 2019

We have stayed at the Plough and Harrow a few times now and all ways had a very enjoyable stay, the hotel is ideally located for walking into Birmingham, the rooms are very spacious comfortable and nice comfortable bed, the staff are very pleasant. over all we had a great stay and will be staying there again.

"Car park security non existant for disabled bays"
Safari23252055111, 18 Mai 2019

Disabled bays are on wrong side of barrier, the security cameras do not work and it seems the car thieves know this as my disabled van was stolen during the night. Hotel staff were unhelpful and as I had checked out before i realised my vehicle had been stolen from directly outside the reception area they rang police and that was it as far as they were concerned I got the impression they just wanted me out of their hotel so that no one heard me speaking to police ,insurance and hire car companys

"Romantic stay."
Soulfully A, 12 Mai 2019

Beautiful period hotel with authentic historical ambience lovely outside terrace and Art Deco features safe and secure car parking too. Amazing comfortable bed slept like a dream and very helpful and attentive staff throughout the hotel a wonderful stay and experience. Thank you to Saul, Joseph very helpful and great service and the lovely breakfast service ladies with smiles to brighten any morning and wonderful service.

"Good value"
OnAir17533172927, 11 Mai 2019

Good sized room, clean and comfortable bed. However the room was too warm. The heating stayed on all night. It was not possible to control it in the room, it had to be done by reception and despite calling them and asking twice for it to be turned off, it still stayed on all night.

"Mistory Tour to find our room"
Julie T, 07 Mai 2019

Thank goodness for Sat Nav, we would never have found the hotel without one. Was plent of secure parking. Check in was good , our room took a bit of finding, lots of stairs and corridors and all a bit dated, but clean and tidy. Pre-booked for breakfast, could see that alot of the continental choices had not been kept topped up and our hot breakfast choices didn't come out quite to our order, don't think anyone's order that morning was right from the other guests comments we heard. So could do with looking at.

"Surprising in a number of ways"
kev3d, 06 Mai 2019

I was expecting a formula place, but instead this place a lot of character. It's a listed building and the exterior, entrance and bar exude this in buckets. The walk to the rooms reveal a lesser romance but the rooms are good, clean and large. Breakfast was nothing special but was enjoyable. Nice staff. Would stay there again.

"Lovely staff"
Coastal32137095250, 05 Mai 2019

I stayed with my daughters the manager on reception was very helpful and friendly we had a small problem with our room but he sorted this out very fast we all enjoyed breakfast all the staff and management are amazing

"Very Good"
Happiness63790336746, 30 Avril 2019

Very good value and excellent location. I would recommend the hotel . Staff very helpful and friendly. Overall a positive experience indeed. Bit of a walk from lobby to room though. Much better stay than at Copthorne recently and no problems parking.

"Great night sleep and incredible staff"
Logger2807, 19 Avril 2019

The room was really good value and the rooms were clean, well equipped and the beds very, very comfy. Our family of 4 slept very well in the family room. Staff were exceptional during the day and the follow up service with a 'left teddy' was nothing short of exceptional.

"The great staff make all the difference"
SarahDurst, 17 Avril 2019

We found this hotel via the Cadbury's website and booked a family room for one night. The hotel room was basic but clean and the mattress appeared new. The heating was on high when we arrived but it was lowered by reception on request. The staff were what made the experience though. Emma, on reception and Alex, serving breakfast, were both helpful and knowledgeable about the local area.

"Confortable stay"
Coastal42476554314, 06 Avril 2019

Stayed here for work as was close to where i needed to be. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are clean n comfortable . Didnt have breakfast as i was leaving early on a morning n found breakfast price alot . Would stay here again its about 30 mins walk into centre but easy to walk to.

"2 night break"
Vicki C, 06 Avril 2019

Had a weekend away bought for me for my 40th. Lovely building very friendly and helpful staff and comfy bed which earnt you 2 stars otherwise there wouldn't be any. Our room was one of the furthest away from reception various corridors and stairs no lift so if you struggle to walk this would be a nightmare! Entered the room very old fashioned but nice a spacious there was an awful smell in the bathroom and the shower was pointless just a little tricke have to say this is the worst shower in s hotel room I've ever experienced! The cold water didn't work so couldn't get s drink have to say though this got sorted pretty quickly and were given complementary water. We missed the breakfast the first morning and the second morning we came down to the restaurant. Very nice friendly staff placed our order for two traditional breakfasts this took over 45 minutes to arrive which is completely ridiculous the restaurant was not busy a couple actually left as they had waited far too long this is very poor service I would not stay gain nor recommend shame really as it has good potential

"An evening at The Symphony Hall"
Sunshine57687234877, 05 Avril 2019

I was looking for a comfortable hotel close to the centre of Birmingham. It is comfortable and characterful, just a short taxi ride to The Symphony Hall and I did not need to worry about the road works.

"Great place"
babeingwent, 17 Mars 2019

We arrived early and were able to book in straight away. Booked 2 rooms, 1 superior and 1 executive both were great rooms. Beds really comfortable. Bar lovely, staff attitude and service was great. Allowed us to leave car in car park the next day after checking out for as long as we wanted. Lose to city centre about 10mins walk. Would definitely recommend it.

"Mixed Stay"
Rsta1971, 11 Mars 2019

We arrived at the hotel on Friday night and the photos we saw made it look like the hotel was setback, but sits right on a busy road. The reception was not too welcoming more functional. We was in a family room and expected the rooms to be near but it was up some stairs then long corridor then down more stairs and another corridor not really ideal for those with small children. The bar staff were very nice and it's very quiet. We was advised breakfast starts at 8 am which we found late as we wanted to be out, so we arrived at 8 and found no food was ready so more waiting around. It was pretty average and limited to be honest. The rooms are ok a bit dated but as we was out most of the time fine to rest your head. On leaving at 7:50 in the morning my wife was told the reception staff had yet to start and could we wait or come back later. In the end we said we had to go and hope that we was charged correctly. I woułd not return I'd opt for a Premier Inn or similar who are better set up

"Plough and Harrow stay"

"One night stay"
Lorraine W, 06 Mars 2019

An older hotel building, alas no stairs and quite a few steps. The Hotel staff were all very friendly. Evening meal was good so was Breakfast. Near to Birmingham Centre, with quite a few restaurants nearby.

"Historic hotel with excellent service"
David B, 04 Mars 2019

We were given a warm welcome by the receptionist. Our room was clean and well presented with a very comfortable bed and a good bathroom. Breakfast was good and service was exemplary. Would happily stay there again.

"Identity Confusion or all fur and no knickers"
Claire P, 25 Février 2019

The downstairs still gives a nod to the old money chic of it's once glamorous hey day; seeming to aspire to still reach the Jaegar wearing classes but sadly disappoints onthe necessary detail. Rooms are less glam, looking tired and in need of updating but this is reflected in the very reasonable price. A pleasant evening meal, with condiments served in plastic sachets, was more befitting of a Harvester style family restaurant. This was incongruent with the price, menu and white table cloths that seems to promise of something altogether more upmarket. The customer service was superb from all staff - old school, traditional hospitality. Due to housekeeping issues I was immediately offered an upgrade to a room more in keeping of standards set by modern hotel chains. Although the lingering smell of hair sebum suggests the 'decorative' bed cushions have not been washed. The housekeeping team would benefit from some attention to detail. A fabulous building, retains some of its glamorous past but seems confused about its position in this new world. Some attention to detail, build on its strengths and assets could help this much loved piece of Brum history really find its niche in the city's landscape.

"Excellent!"
stevebantonk, 20 Février 2019

I must say, this' probably one of the best priced bed & breakfast ‘short stay' hotels I've stayed in. Arrived earlier than I'd stated when booking & was greeted by a very pleasant receptionist. Once booked in & allocated room (101) was pleasantly surprised with how spotless, big & spacious the room was....Beverages are reasonably priced along with restaurant food, which was very tasty....I'd definitely recommend to others & will stay here again..NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL.

"Avoid this tired hotel."
chroma23, 19 Février 2019

Greeted by a less than happy receptionist, and asked about checking in early, she reluctantly said my room was available. Made the long trek to room 213 only to find the bed made but bins full of beer bottles and dirty towels in the bathroom. Lunch in the bar didn't offer more than sandwiches and chips so we went out and then on to work. Back to our rooms around 1045 pm , bed comfy but room freezing cold At 2.10 am the knocking started, like someone sat behind the radiator......so that was my sleep for the night. It wore off around 4 but started again at 6 at which point I gave up and got up Shower was ok, bathroom dated but clean. Breakfast was like a comedy sketch...chap takes room number, asks you to take a seat. Then minutes later come over with tea and coffee and asks for room number again as if it's the first time he's met you! Muddy stairs since yesterday, total lack of care and management is evident They have a Fawlty Towers evening coming up...I'm not sure that will take any acting at all!

"It's a long walk to the rooms"
743craigg, 03 Février 2019

Stayed here as meeting some work colleagues for a night out. Yes it's a little on the dated side, I stayed in room 207 and I'm not kidding when I say it was a five minute walk from reception to the room, all of the numbers of the 200 rooms were along way from reception/dining room from what I could see. Every time the heating came on in the night the radiator banged like a crow bar was hitting it, I managed to get about a three hour stint without being woken up. The best thing I can say was the young lady called Alex I believe her name is, who was waitressing on breakfast, the jug coffee was awful but she very kindly got some for me from the machine in the kitchen, she was so nice and nothing was to much trouble. From my stay, the hotel needs investment, but the staff were brilliant, so well done them and especially Alex, thanks for getting me a decent coffee

"Dissapointing Afternoon Tea"
Steve307BirminghamUK, 03 Février 2019

Took my mother for afternoon tea with a voucher from Buy a Gift. The scones were nice but the tea was tepid, the sandwiches were made with what tasted like industrial margerine that disguised the taste of the fillings and the pastries appeared to have been bought in a pack at the local supermarket. The atmosphere not helped by Heart FM radio on the music system. Very disappointed.

"Rabbit warren "
GaryMoody, 31 Janvier 2019

My room was on the ground floor. It I still had to walk up and down stairs, the signage could have been better too, at the top of the first flight of stairs there was no sign to where my room was. The room itself was very roomy and comfortable but the shower was very poor

"Reasonable hotel"
Dwk1957, 31 Janvier 2019

Reasonable hotel with generally acceptable and comfortable facilities, if dated.. Road outside can get noisy at night. Breakfast and general service was fair. We experienced some minor problems with heating and plumbing in our room but generally our stay was good.

"Disappointing"
Lel01, 28 Janvier 2019

Have stayed in this hotel many times but not since 2017. Perhaps we were unlucky this time. We found several hairs in the bath and either a piece of thick cotton or dental floss on the bathroom floor. In the bathroom you can hear very clearly what the occupants in the next door hotel room are talking about through the air vent which seemed strange. The bedroom was very comfortable and exactly the same as on previous stays although the heating came on in the night waking us up and making the room very hot. The radiator temperature is controlled on reception so we couldn't turn the radiators down ourselves. There was also a different arrangement for breakfast since our last visit. Instead of ordering at your table for a fresh cooked breakfast with some choice it was a self service breakfast. Only scrambled eggs were available and they were luke warm - not very appetising. The hotel is in an ideal location. Hotel reception staff very helpful.

"this hotel was my back up plan"
jkroege1, 26 Janvier 2019

The dinner in the lounge was lovely and the space safe and comfortable. The hotel seems to be a mid level lodging with workers and business travel of a working class variety, comfortable, clean, safe.

"Really lovely hotel"
Chairofbowlies68, 24 Janvier 2019

Hidden away off a busy road in the centre of Birmingham is this charming hotel. Ample free parking in a secure car park and a warm friendly welcome at Reception. I took advantage of the discounted breakfast (£5 cheaper if booked on arrival) and found my way upstairs to my delightful double room with a view of the garden. The room was exceptionally clean, with a large comfy bed and all the amenities one would expect. I was staying just one night as I had a study day nearby the following day and so took the opportunity to order room service, which was delivered promptly and was delicious. The hotel is an old building but has a real charm and character rarely seen these days. It was tidy, clean and well maintained and all the staff I met were really lovely and helpful. Breakfast was great too, a really varied selection which was nicely presented and a top quality 6 slice toaster (not the awful conveyer belt you sometimes find) When I asked for directions to the venue I was attending when I checked out and realised it was only a 5 minute walk away, I was able to arrange to leave my car in the car park and collect it at the end of the day which was so helpful. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when I'm visiting the area and recommend highly to friends and family. Well done Plough and Harrow Hotel!

"Tracy "
Tracy S, 20 Janvier 2019

One night stay. family room on ground floor not in olde world style part of hotel. needed to access via stairs and corridors. room adequate for stay but looking tired and dated. problem with boiler so no hot water before our evening out plus no heating. on return all fixed but absolutely boiling all night in room. We didn't pay for breakfast so unable to comment. room was clean and bathroom spotless. for 95.00 no complaints. only few minutes by Uber to centre for NIA .

"A great choice for a Birmingham trip."
Rickanstis, 19 Janvier 2019

I had a very, very pleasant stay at this olde-worlde and grand hotel. The staff are lovely, the fittings are classy, there is exemplary fast and free and reliable Wi-Fi (and I don't say that lightly – so many hotels fail on that one), a good shower, and good soundproofing – important for a location that is right on the Hagley Road, just into Edgbaston. Minor gripe would be the relatively poor range of choices in the bar, but prices are reasonable, and the surroundings there are very pleasant, too. All in all, a great choice for a Birmingham trip, whether business or pleasure.

"3 day break"
Steven P, 18 Janvier 2019

Good stay in the Plough and Harrow. We were told that the restaurant was closed on Sunday evening as we went down to dinner and had to eat on the lower tables in the bar area. However, the flat iron steak was one of the best I have ever had. The rooms are a bit in need of tlc but were clean and there was plenty of hot water. Would certainly stay again.

"Poor reception/security"
MarvellousMelv, 16 Janvier 2019

A group of us went for a friends wedding. We arrived Friday for the wedding on the Saturday. We went out around Broad street on the Friday night.Returned at about 01:30 but could not get access back into the hotel and get to our rooms.Tried the door bell and tried to phone. But could not get any answer. It appears that there is a lack of reception and security late at night which is poor.I have e mailed Plough and Harrow hotel twice now about this and still had no reply. This is either pure ignorance or incompetence or possibly both.Keep your money and spend it at an hotel that actually cares.

"Bit of old school"
X3333SGkevinb, 15 Janvier 2019

I stay here now and again for Business. It's very accessible being on Hagley road. That's a couple of miles out from the centre and around 35 minutes walking to University. The rooms are adequate but no lift. The Hotel has a certain quirkyness about it with long corridors that can be a bit of a pain. The staff are very friendly and housekeeping is excellent. Menu is a bit boring but there are lots of places only a short walk away. TGI Fridays, Harvester, Ask Pizza and a brilliant Indian called Prezzo. Nice breakfast to be had and if it's good enough for Tolkien it's good enough for me.

"Very cosy hotel and lovely staff"
paulk542016, 12 Janvier 2019

I stayed her for a week from the 7th January. The price was very good for a large twin room and breakfast. Free WiFi that worked perfectly. Very comfy beds and the rooms were well serviced every morning. The high light was the staff, in particular 'Alex' who was the young lady that served breakfast. She would remember my room number and what I wanted each day (I am a creature of habit). She was polite and had a great smile to greet you each day.

"Pre Christmas break"
Cathrine T, 30 Décembre 2018

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The standards were excellent in terms of service and it had a good central location. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very enjoyable and we were served very promptly having advised we were going out later. There was a good range of drinks at the bar and staff were very attentive. Overall this was a good value break and we would recommend it.

"Birmingham MS Society Christmas Meal"
Robin C, 18 Décembre 2018

I am writing to express my sincere disappointment about the quality of the meal on Sunday 16th December 2018. The meals were of poor quality, a lot of people left food, which tells you it was not palatable for many, and the meals were more or less lukewarm on arrival on the tables. I asked you to arrange for the piano to be moved to a location where the music could be heard in the dining room, but it was away from the door, and the door kept closing which made it more difficult to hear. I did ask for some table service because a lot of guests were reliant on sticks, crutches and wheelchairs and would be unable to visit the bar and carry their drinks back to the table without spilling them. I do believe that a number of guests were disappointed by the lack of available spirits for their mixer drinks, and were told the hotel had run out of certain spirits, which inevitably lost you bar revenue. The manager in charge that day informed me two employees had gone sick, and he would not be able to provide the requested support as agreed with yourself. As a customer experience it was very inept, and I have received complaints from many of our group members. The Birmingham MS Group have held their annual Christmas meal at this establishment for many years, and to date this is the worst experience.

"Perfect for City and NIA"
Sandra J, 16 Décembre 2018

Great hotel close to city centre. Large free car park, friendly staff. Nice room on 2nd floor in the new wing. Bit of a ramble to find but not a problem. Spacious with table/chairs, loads of storage, welcome tea/coffee tray. Also lovely and warm on an icy cold evening. Spacious bathroom with shower over bath and ample very hot water. Receptionist advised about walking to the NIA, an easy 20 minute walk. It was. Left onto Hagley Road, straight along to the underpass, right, then left, then straight again until you reach the canal. Very busy area with all the major eateries, well lit, and quite safe at night Food; we had a snack in the lounge before leaving for the show; sandwiches and hand cut chips which was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was full English for hubby, quite substantial and filling, and for me the excellent continental buffet, warm croissants, cereal, yogurts, toast. The only - very minor - issue here was that the restaurant was very busy and we shared a large table with two other couples instead of waiting for a table for two. Not a problem at all. Checkout was easy and pleasant and we were swiftly on our way with pleasant memories of our stay.

"All work no play"
454junef, 15 Décembre 2018

Staff the best I have come across in a long while. Room was a bit dated and tired but clean. There is a long walk from the reception to the rooms without a lift. Breakfast was good although plates were incredibly hot bu the quality was good. Restaurant could have been better but overall the food was edible.

"Tired but very welcoming, and close to city with free parking and good breakfast"
Navigate12879740632, 11 Décembre 2018

One of the better hotels in my opinion for service, closeness to city value and breakfast. Having stayed in a few hotels along Hagley road this is by far the best value with great breakfast and convenient parking. The rooms are a little tired decor wise but comfortable bed, good shower and accommodating bar and reception lobby.

"Great Staff,"
Compass41584749949, 10 Décembre 2018

I don't normally stay in best weston, however this was short notice for business, great staff, food to high standand, room ok, abit dated, very good night sleep and great shower and breafast!. I will be going back and check out other Best Weston!

"Excellent value and close to city centre without city centre price hike"
Sheila J, 06 Décembre 2018

Stopping in early December we arrived to find a tastefully decorated hotel ready for the holiday season. Easy check-in, free parking (which cannot be said for many city centre hotels in Birmingham), taxi quickly available. Enjoyed our restaurant meal, service was good, efficient but not intrusive. Lovely room in the old part of the hotel, quirky not quite level floor, super shower and an enjoyable stay. Happy to return.

"stunning "
michaela g, 01 Décembre 2018

what a beautiful place to stay, we booked a suite, it was huge, loved it. the hotel is stunning with so much character. the receptionist was lovely and helpful and very friendly and polite. breakfast was delicious. had a wonderful overnight stay.

"Freezing rooms and rip off food services"
Emma025, 29 Novembre 2018

We stayed in this hotel last week and only booked as it was close to the Birmingham Arena. The lobby was nice and warm but the minute you walked into the corridor the hotel was cold. My husband and I woke both nights freezing cold and the heating is on a timer run by the hotel. We also ordered room service at the end of the night. There was a selection of 7 sandwiches as the hot toasties had ended. Out of the 7 sandwiches there was only 2 filings available. We both ordered tuna sandwich for £5.95 each. We waited 35 minutes and we were given two slices of Warburton's bread with a bit of tuna on. No garnish, no nice bloomer bread, no crisps. I could have bought better from the local garage. I will definitely not be staying again after two terrible nights sleep in the cold.

"good value for money"
AshesVictory, 28 Novembre 2018

nice big room, comfortable & clean. very helpful & friendly staff both on reception & in the bar. The hotel is deceptively big so it was a bit of a trek to the room. Good location for Birmingham city centre.

"Ideal Location for City Centre"
keithwilliams1954, 26 Novembre 2018

The Best Western Plough & Harrow Hotel is ideally situated for City Centre venues such as Arena. Just a 10 minute taxi ride or 20 minute stroll. Rooms, especially the Executive style, are extremely comfortable with king size beds, flat screen tv's and superb under floor heated bathrooms. The staff are very helpful and friendly and nothing appears too much trouble. Breakfast is buffet style full English & Continental and unless you get there early, there is sometimes a wait whilst fresh items have to be fetched from the kitchen. Overall, fully recommend this hotel and we will be staying again.

"Business stay"
stuhartsdungeon, 23 Novembre 2018

I stayed one night at the hotel for a business trip. I arrived at 10pm for a late check in which was no problem, was quickly checked in by a helpful receptionist and quickly got to bed. The room was spacious but a little dated in style. The room had tea and coffee facilities which was helpful. the room was spotlessly Clean including the bathroom which has a large mirror and shower over bath. I paid £50 for the night bed and breakfast which was cheap in comparison to other hotels in the area so the value was excellent. Breakfast is only 7-9am and so I didn't have time to eat breakfast which was a shame and I much would have preferred to have been offered a continental breakfast delivered to my room (even at a supplement) as I needed to get ready quickly in the morning to make my short meeting. As my meeting was over by 10am even if breakfast had ran longer I would have still been able to eat before the 2 hour drive back home. All in all a comfortable stay, the bar/lounge seemed lively when I arrived at 10pm and so if you want a social stay then it seems a good fit. The rooms are well away from any noise which is nice and the temperature was pleasant in the room to give a comfortable sleep on the very soft mattress.

"Misleading photos"
Hywel and Colle... T, 18 Novembre 2018

Very grungy and dirty feeling room. I would not have felt clean to walk on the carpet without my shoes. The photos were not accurate as the room was dank. I have never asked for a refund but thankfully they refunded our 3 night stay and we went elsewhere. This could be nice if they updated the rooms.

"Nostalgic visit to my hometown after 40 years"
JeffreyM233, 14 Novembre 2018

Arrived at hotel in pouring rain, and it was a warm and welcoming foyer. Receptionist was very helpful concerning our public transport info for our trip to city centre. We had booked a room with twin queen beds, but when we got to the room ,we found two single beds. Not a problem, the room was very clean and well appointed.Be advised there is no lift in this hotel.Bathroom was clean, nice towels etc. A nice room. Breakfast was a bit of a debacle,we ordered our meal,,waited half an hour and then the waitress came again to take our order . We said we already had but apparently the order had been lost,so when it did arrive, our coffee pot had gone cold. We could hear the chef and staff arguing in the kitchen.. When the breakfast did arrive, it was very nice. We checked out and returned home to Wales, and my wife found she had left her phone charger and lead in the room. I phoned and asked if they could post it on. Special thanks to Emma for taking the trouble to pack and post it to us.!!! All in all,a very nice place to stay, and would recommend to travellers

"Good value but rather dated"
ricky39, 07 Novembre 2018

This hotel used to be the best in Birmingham thirty years ago but it hasn't really changed since then. The rooms are adequate for the price and the hotel generally is a pleasant environment. The breakfast was very poor.

"A great location and friendly staff"
CAFB27, 07 Novembre 2018

I've stayed here on and off for the last couple of years. The hotel is tired, however the rooms are spacious, clean and everything works. Also to note is the location to town and the free parking. I would recommend the hotel for a stay business or short weekend break

"Good value for a Birmingham stopover"
OutOfTheBlue-301, 28 Octobre 2018

Good value, booked via BestWestern website. Price much lower than the city centre hotels. 20 minutes walk from the city centre, making this a good option for a Birmingham stopover. Frequent buses stop nearby if you'd rather not walk. Large room with a decent shower. Decent breakfast, though service could be a bit sharper. If you've got an hour to spare and fancy a walk, Edgbaston Reservoir is a pleasant stroll. If you are sensitive to noise and/or disruption, it's worth checking with the hotel before you book, in case they have a wedding on. Would stay again.

"Not very special"
berthaUk, 28 Octobre 2018

We returned to this hotel after 30 years getting married there ....Emma on reception was brilliant n upgraded us as a treat ...room was so noisy. ..doors slamming am n pm every tap in our area used vibrations people walking past room we could hear as if in same room traffic outside none stop went home 24hrs early knowing on our return back that evening we wouldn't sleep again n hotel on Friday looked a lot busier

"Not a fashionista hotel, but not trying to be one!"
Jane W, 27 Octobre 2018

Like other Best Western hotels I've stayed in, the building is old (Tolkien stayed here at this one in the early 1900s) and so is decorated with sympathy to some beautiful old features. They also have a family run feel to them, the staff at this one couldn't do enough for guests. The rooms have loads of cupboard space and quite a few plug points and ironing facilities. The bed is comfortable and there is a desk space or an occasional table to sit at. The decor is quite olde world in style, but tidy enough and clean. The water pressure isn't very strong and so a shower is not the best, but manageable. Toiletries are provided. The bar space and restaurant are pleasant. The meals are nicely presented and really tasted wonderful. The breakfasts are cooked to order and so I had smoked salmon and scrambled egg, rather than the usual full English.

"Great Hotel"
GARETH W, 15 Octobre 2018

Stayed here for one night , attending The Arena Birmingham for a concert . The hotel is an easy walk to the arena , there are lots of restaurants /bars local . The hotel room itself was really nice , the room was quite spacious as was the bathroom ( proper size bath towels too ). The only thing I was dissapointed with was the lighting in the room , it was only lit by a bedside lamp and another small lamp on the dressing table opposite and a light as you enter the room , having said that it wasn't that much of an inconvenience . All in all I would definitely stay here again.

"Need improvement to qualify for a very good hotel"
John G, 14 Octobre 2018

We booked two rooms to be close to Edgbaston cricket grounds. Driving to this address was OK but the hotel itself was poorly sign posted. It was almost a corner property and easily missed. Need better sign posting. A wedding party was on on that night , but we had no disturbance. Property looked like an old building with newer extension. There was plenty of spaces , free, for car parking. Receptionists were very good and helpful. I couldn't see any good restaurants near by. The room was very spacious and well equipped with tea coffee making facilities. There was no fridge or bar. Free wi-fi was good. The room became very cold at night, radiators not working, and no spare blankets. Spent the whole night freezing and little sleep.I reported this to the receptionist. "No one else has complained, and we will have this investigated" was the reply. Breakfast was good, nothing special.

"Great Find "
JaneDavidMc, 14 Octobre 2018

Spent one night here as we were attending a gig at the arena. We chose because of price and free parking. Hotel was about 20 minutes walk from arena. Room 108 was huge if not a little dated but very clean, disappointed that we were given two single beds but that didn't spoil anything. Breakfast nice although lay out in a way that you were bumping into others...still not a major problem. At about 8:50 people were having to wait to get in for breakfast as no tables available...get in early. Overall a great place to stay.

"Excellent hotel, really helpful staff."
Marsul, 11 Octobre 2018

Spent one night here whilst attending the nearby Arena Birmingham for an event in October 2018. Handily placed for the Arena and other attractions, just a gentle 25 minute walk from the hotel Checked in at 2pm and there is a free secure car park at the hotel. Greeted by very polite and helpful receptionist. Room was excellent and very clean and comfortable with tea and coffee in room. Hotel is charmingly dated but that is not to its detriment. Enjoyed a couple of drinks befor walking to the event. With hindsight we should have taken advantage of the hotel restaurant for dinner as opposed to the very busy Arena area.......if you are downing a similar visit, well worth considering this option. Particularly as we availed ourselves of the excellent cooked breakfast the following morning. We would have no hesitation in using this hotel again and would certainly recommend it. Thank you all who work there, you were one of the most helpful and friendly set of people we have come across. Good luck in the future.

"Ruturned a year later"
Anthony B, 10 Octobre 2018

Having stayed for 2 nights the year previous as I was in town for the cricket I decided to stay here again after a successful first visit. More of then same. Pleasant place in a great location. A little tired in places but its still nice. Room was very spacious too. My only little gripe is the cooked breakfast was over priced for what you could get. But its a city hotel and it is all you can eat. I would certainly not let this put me off going again.

"Good location but rooms need updating "
Carlzberg, 27 Septembre 2018

I mainly picked the hotel because of its location (about 10/15 minute walk to Broad Street or 20/25 minute walk to Arena). The location was great & easy to get to, the free parking was great as one less thing to worry about. Upon arrival, the lady was friendly & helpful. However when we got into our outdated room with no air conditioning, there was a problem with bugs in our room. We duly called reception & they efficiently sent someone up, due to a phobia of bugs, we asked to be moved & they kindly obliged after some confusion with the person who came to our room to look at the bugs. The room was next door so we didn't open the window to prevent bugs from getting in. After this ordeal & finally settling, I went to the bar for a drink where the barman barely said 2 words so I took my drink back to my room. The room was spacious & the bathroom was sufficient; however outdated & in need of a refurbishment (ceiling paper hanging down, chips in the wall, 2 desk lights but no main ceiling light...) Overall a bit disappointing but the staff & location make this hotel bearable.

My Friend and I arrived at the hotel for afternoon tea. A birthday gift.lovely cream tea very friendly staff helpful and polite. Lovely clean and comfortable hotel ..nice soft music playing in background also would go there again in the future

"Business Stay"
sc0ttietraveller, 19 Septembre 2018

Hotel was well appointed, room highly satisfactory and staff helpful. Probelm with food not being available at times as shown, especially for an arrival close to end of service period. Room rate achieved was better ta=han many in Birmingham. Overall a pleasant experience

"Needs improvement on some staff"
kateh12272018, 19 Septembre 2018

I have been to this hotel quite a few times now and it has still not improved. I arrived after a very long drive and was greeted by one receptionist who goes by the name Emily or Emma I can't quite remember. Whenever i walk past her there seems to be a laugh which comes across to me as very fake and sarcastic, this in turn can make me feel very uncomfortable. I have also noticed that there is this young chap that works there with dark slick black hair who works the bar quite often, he is a fantastic worker who manages to accommodate everyone. I observed a conversation between them two and I noticed that he maintained manners and decorum knowing guests were around while being spoken to very rudely and very disrespectfully; she had the cheek to call workers lazy when they were rushed off their feet whilst being understaffed, on top of this every time i walked past her she had her phone out doing nothing!! I was not impressed by this attitude to her colleagues as they work hard to make sure the hotels reputation is upheld.

"Comfortable hotel close to the City"
Susan H, 15 Septembre 2018

I arrived in the evening after a long drive. The receptionist was helpful and I was immediately offered assistance with my luggage. Despite having a ground floor room it was up stairs and down again to an extension at the back However it was a wonderfully quiet and exceptionally large room so it was worth the trek. I liked the space particularly, as so often if you book as a single you get a mean little room! The decor could now do with updating as the dark wood and colours were distinctly dated. The bathroom was also large but the shower was disappointing. It was only lukewarm. It should be noted that due to the Hotel being a listed building it has no lift. I choose to have a bar snack on the evening of my arrival. It was quickly served and fresh and tasty. One snag was that I had paperwork to do and neither my bed room or the public rooms had good lighting for this. The dining room and the bar area were large. The dining room had lovely high ceilings and a huge, tall window that gave the room a light and airy feel. The breakfast fell short of my expectations. On arrival I was told to help myself to the buffet. There was no menu on the table and thus I only learnt at the end of the meal that there were freshly cooked items available from the kitchen by request. However, i was pleased with the dishes of prepared fresh fruit, so often hotels just provide chunks of melon. Irritatingly, the glasses supplied for the juices were too tall to fit under the taps of the juice dispensers because they were stemmed wine glasses! There were no tongs for the bread and croissants - a potential hygiene hazard. The hot buffet was sitting over a heater unit for the duration so that the scrambled egg had turned to rubber. One would normally expect frequent top ups to keep the eggs fresh and moist. Also I watched with amazement as other guests took multiple items, presumably intended for their lunches. One person filled a small carrier bag and another had a very large napkin which he filled. The staff were plentiful but seemed to be sheltering in the kitchen instead of monitoring what was happening at the buffet. The car parking was good, with access through a lifting barrier.

"Enjoyable stay"
FLB24, 10 Septembre 2018

Very nice old front facade and in a good position to visit the city of Birmingham. Only about 15 minutes walk to the redeveloped canal area of Birmingham. Hotel was enjoyable , rooms were very clean, quite spacious and well fitted out. Even though we were on a main road the room was very quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Recommended.

"Wedding Day"
clair r, 10 Septembre 2018

Don and Clair chose the Plough & Harrow as our wedding venue, what a fantastic choice that we made, as you walked through the main entrance doors you felt really at home with the surroundings which were spotlessly clean, comfortable. From assisting with the arrangements leading to our special day all the staff right across the board were friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble they made the day that extra bit special. Our guests whom arrived the day before and stopped at the hotel said their bedrooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast choices were more than sufficient and delicious. The food that was prepared and served throughout our special day was absolutely delicious and no one had any criticism whatsoever, and that is a testament to how the hotel looks after its guests. To those people who have moaned and given the hotel bad reviews I think you need to find something better to do in life. Paul and all the team thank you so much for giving us a day to remember for the rest of our lives and for looking after us and our guests over the two days. Don & Clair

"Really lovely"
Darren S, 06 Septembre 2018

Once we finally managed to get parked this hotel did not dissapoint. Exterior and reception well maintained. An old fashioned homely hotel. Receptionist very helpful and cheerful. Rooms were huge we had booked 2 doubles and a twin. Windows that opened nice to let air in (instead of freezing air con). Wi-fi constantly worked.Teens happy!! Garden area with patio~lovely to sit outside with a drink. Breakfast nice but unfortunately by time we go to the dinning room a lot of breakfast items had run out! All in a very pleasent stay.

"Meeting old friends"
L9606PXdavids, 29 Août 2018

We were meeting up with old friends who we had not seen for 10yrs. They were staying with family in Birmingham and we traveld a long way to see them. We definitely where very pleased with our choice of hotel for 3 main reasons. 1) Price and location were excellent 2) Bed and room 10/10 as was noise level (none at all) 3) Staff sevice and quality of food Very Very good.

"Excellant hotel for short break."
P1163DOpamelas, 29 Août 2018

My husband and I chose this hotel to have a break and meet some friends in Birmingham. We could not have chosen better the staff were so friendly and helpful and we feel completely rested now that we are home.

"Beware the restaurant service"
lindsayaddinall, 28 Août 2018

We got to Sunday breakfast 10 minutes before the end. the staf were already cleaning up and treated us like a huge inconvenience. By the time they finished laying out table the hot food buffet had been cleared away and they 'couldnt bring any more out as they were saving it for tomorrow' We had to ask nicely for the chef to do two fresh english breakfasts. By then I wasnt feeling nice about the experience

"Exceeded expectations"
mjscrosby, 27 Août 2018

Greeted by very friendly staff on the desk and was immediately impressed by the hotel's entrance and bar/restaurant areas. Bit of a walk to room down pretty tired looking corridors but actual room was good. Spacious and clean. Ordered room service and the pizza and sandwiches were very tasty. Breakfast was a bit disorganised although well cooked. Waited a long time for everything to be replenished - no juice, glasses, bowls for cereal or pastries when we arrived and took about 15/ 20 minutes. For the price, can't really fault the hotel and would happily stay again.

"Wedding takeover !!"
Andrew T, 26 Août 2018

Our stay has been completely ruined by two absolutely inexcusable events. Last night we went for an rearly evening sleep in the room believing that there was 24 hour room service including hot pizza and hot snacks. When we called room service around 11pm we were told all we could have was a sandwich or they would call out for a takeaway to be delivered for us. We ended up ordering a pizza delivery ourselves online. Today, after a tiring afternoon out, we were looking forward to dining in the a la carte restaurant and enjoying a meal from what seemed a very nice menu selection. Picture our disappointment when we were told that a wedding taking place in the hotel meant that the restaurant was closed and that we would have to have our a la carte dinner perched on a bar stool in the back bar (not even in the lounge bar), and that we wouldn't be able to order anything between 7:30 and 8:30 because the kitchen was serving a buffet for the wedding!! We've ended up having our dinner delivered to our room :( - well at least thats what's been agreed, but we haven't got it yet, so we'll see! Never again at this hotel.

"Excellent stay"
cjohnfox, 23 Août 2018

Stayed for one night as part of a hospital assessment. We found the receptionist very helpful and informative and gave us clear and consice information about the hotel. The room was spacious and clean and very comfortable with an excellent bed and comfy pillows. A nice touch was a cafetière and ground coffee on the hospitality tray. We didn't sample the restaurant or breakfast due to the nature of my hospital tests, but it certainly smelt good and looked good quality. Will definitely return if more appointments are necessary

"desperately needs maintenance"
jacqkoo, 23 Août 2018

stayed one night as attending a wedding in edgebaston, lots of family members stayed in various rooms, daughter and her children and ourselves, the walk to our room was like walking a marathon, not impressed as i have mobility problems, problems on check in although staff were pleasant took 45 minutes to sort out our room, room furniture was old and tacky, loose and rickety. daughter and family stayed for breakfast,(we didnt) however when a further family member and children came in for breakfast at just before 10am they were spoken to very rudely by staff telling them loudly they were LATE and couldnt have any, daughter stepped in and they then let them in to eat, but stood around by the door glaring and then banging dishes around showing their mood. There was plenty of food still there and guests should not be rudely treated when they have paid for room and breakfast whether or not they came in 10 minutes before breakfast time finished. very unprofessional behaviour. Obviously some kind of staff training is needed.

"Our Wedding"
Simon B, 21 Août 2018

We had our wedding here on Saturday (18/8/18) and couldn't have asked for a more perfect day from start to finish. All the staff were brilliant and couldn't have done enough for us or our guests, nothing was too much. The food was fantastic, the main room was beautiful! Many of our guests had rooms to stay in too and they all said they we're lovely, me and my new wife had the bridal suite and it was very luxurious and the bed was very comfortable. We are definitely coming back next year for our 1st anniversary.

"Excellent old hotel, great staff"
_dianechalloner, 16 Août 2018

I attended a wedding here and stayed overnight. The food was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The room was nice and very clean. Breakfast was delicious especially the field mushrooms.

"Lovely room but average stay"
rawrchloex, 11 Août 2018

We stayed here for 4 nights and we were pleased with the room, it was large and spacious. One downside to our stay was that nearly every night there was a wedding which we were unaware of and music was playing quite loud until just after midnight, it would've been nice to have been told that there would be numerous weddings throughout our stay and warning that there may be loud music. Another downside, which ultimately ruined most of our stay, was that we received a phone call stating that my car window was wide open and had been all night! It had also been raining and my car was soaked inside, luckily nothing was stolen but when we asked the staff to look into CCTV they said that the camera was broken and had been for a while, and smirked!! If you knew that all the cameras in the car park was broken, why has nothing been done about it? Staff did not help with the issue either and seemed like they didn't really care. This resulted in me relying on Ubers for transport around the city as my car wasn't driveable. We also weren't aware that there was a code to get out of the car park, as no one had informed us on checking in. Breakfast was good but items were running out quickly and not replaced, most mornings there wasn't fresh fruit or the yoghurt compote that was advertised. Shame because the hotel looked lovely but the staff are not up to scratch and were not professional during our stay.

"Over night for cricket "
Claire M, 06 Août 2018

We stayed here when we went to the Test match as you can park your car and walk to the ground. The hotel was lovely and staff excellent. Although we had only booked a standard double we had a complementary upgrade to the Bridal suite which was amazing especially as we were away for our wedding anniversary. Breakfast and staff were excellent.

"Short weekend away "
lorraineparr, 05 Août 2018

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night,Saturday until Sunday morning. The receptionist on duty was a great asset to the hotel. She was really professional, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. She also checked us out on Sunday morning. She even commented that she had watched the football results the night before and thought of us(which was the reason for our stay) The other ladies who get a big thumbs up are the 2 older ladies who poured our first drink of the day and still had a cheery smile at the end of the day before the night porter came on. The room was clean and had a window that fully opened which was a plus in the heat. Breakfast wasn't really anything special, the bacon and sausage looked like they had been there all morning. The bacon looked boiled not fried or grilled. We both would book again all in all it was a nice hotel to stay in.The decor was tasteful.

"Weekend at the cricket"
RogerNCox, 02 Août 2018

"Great little hotel"
Nawaz1980, 31 Juillet 2018

Stayed here for 2 nights in July to attend a family wedding nearby. The front part of the hotel is very attractive inside, has an old world feel about it with big windows and high ceilings and is nicely decorated - they also seemed to be hiring it out as a wedding venue to which it seemed suited to quite well. Only slight downside was a slightly tiresome walk to our rooms which involved a flight of stairs up, across a long corridor (and up and down steps), some turns and then a flight down but really only an issue when checking in and out with luggage to take to car. The staff are all friendly from reception, dining and room maids and at all times the hotel and rooms were kept very clean. The breakfast in the great dining room was extremely good and included in our rate - which we all thought was extremely good value. Secure parking available outside too. I would definitely recommend this is as a good city centre option for short stays - clean, good value and great staff.

"Brilliant BBQ party package 5 stars"
angied24, 29 Juillet 2018

Anniversary party held 21st July and all stages of planning and the night were brilliant. We were constantly asking question in the preperation and answers back within 24 hours plus bonus could drop of items the day before and stored.Having three areas allowed the party to flow with the bar, main room for dj and dancing, the patio with garden provided choice of seating. We made the most of the garden by bringing our lanterns, candles and had a bouncy castle, giant garden games and even had an adults sports day with all being competitive! The BBQ was cooked and served on the patio the choice, the taste and amount was delicious especiallly the mega burgers. The veggies were impressed with there optons and not seen as an add on. The staff were so helpful especially the duty manager in the afternoon who kept checking how the party was going, if we needed anything without intruding and helped with our candy floss machine by encouraging guests to try. Even having the photo booth there was plenty of room to party. We and guests stayed and the rooms were comfortable and a good choice for breakfast to round off the celebrations. In summary free parking, great size venue, flexibility to put your personnal mark on your event, staff engaged would really recommend ++++++

"Best breakfast ever!"
Ultomato, 23 Juillet 2018

We stayed in this hotel, which is pretty close to the centre of Birmingham, because it has a car park. We had a roof box and other stuff on the roof rack and wanted a reasonably secure location. This is an old Victorian building, probably built originally as a hotel, but it does show show some signs of age. Not that that detracts from the overall ambiance - the area around the dining room, bar and entrance are nicely decorated. The bar on the ground floor serves food, but the restaurant wasn't open - may not be ever open - I don't know. Not an extensive selection of beer, and not a particularly large selection of food - very much just bar food. The chips were not very nice - they didn't look or taste like normal chips - can't explain but they were dark coloured, and didn't appear to have been deep fried. The poor girl serving in the bar really needed help at times; although the bar wasn't busy I think she was new to the job and was struggling to cope without much help. I wish her all the best in her job. We were in a room above reception which was obviously one of the original rooms; it wasn't particularly large, but the bathroom was quite big. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished. The only complaint we have about the bathroom is that the cold tap did not deliver cold water. It was warm, and even hot at times. We let it run for some time and it continued to produce hot water. As British hotels don't provide bottled water in the rooms, I was not happy when during the night I required a drink of water! The room did not have a mini-bar or fridge. Other than that the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Breakfast was first class. Fantastic sausages! Nice little glasses of fresh fruit cocktail. There is a huge selection of cooked and cold produce and the lady who served us was a gem.

"Wedding taste meal"
Jane C, 20 Juillet 2018

First impressions of the hotel was reception was lovely. Then we meet Gloria it was a privilege to meet her and serve us.She welcoming and friendly. The taster menu was exceptional. Thank you chief. Had a lovely coffee on the terrace.?

"Work in progress"
Bob H, 17 Juillet 2018

We stayed here for a weekend away, and visiting relatives. We asked on booking for a ground floor room as my wife has mobility problems and stairs are a definite no no. On arrival we booked in and the staff were very accommodating. We were directed to our room which was at the rear of the building and went via the car park to avoid the stairs. The rear access doors were locked and we had to wait for them to be opened ( this happened a few times, (could this be improved with a disabled key system? ) The room ( room 1 ) was a good size, clean ( but for a stained quilt cover) but would be better with a mini fridge and better ventilation. We ate in the Beauford bar on Saturday night and the food and service were very good. This is a nice hotel conveniently placed for the city centre, has good parking and great staff who make you feel very welcome Would we stay here again ? Well yes we definitely would

"The ruin brought by a chain"
Michelle B, 15 Juillet 2018

I have been going to the Plough and Harrow for afternoon tea for years and always enjoyed it. Today I took my mother, expecting great things as it has recently been taken over by Best Western. What a disappointment. We waited 40 minutes to be served despite there being only two other couples there. The cakes were obviously Iceland multibuy and defrosted as required. The scones were supermarkets too. This beautiful hotel needs love and nurture not someone to come in with a cheap idea and wreck it in one fell swoop. This hotel always had a good reputation for homemade food and cakes. Why would you think people want to eat chain store rubbish? Afternoon tea is a treat not a chore. Wake up Best Western. You have a good product it just needs a little tlc.

"a lovely overnight stay"
ajswoodcraft, 15 Juillet 2018

a lovely hotel with plenty of character and within a gentle stroll into Birmingham centre. The hotel itself was lovely and clean, room was more than adequate, breakfast was superb and the staff were very friendly and cheerful . We would definitely return.

"A member of staff spoilt our stay"
sdavie2, 06 Juillet 2018

Checked in for my daughters graduation at the University of Birmingham. The receptionist on check in was so lovely and helpful and a credit to your hotel (not Valentina). I gave the receptionist my debit card to pay my bill as she did not advise me any differently as to what it was for. She helped us to gain entrance from the back entrance to our room with another member of staff, who was a credit to your hotel too. The next day the breakfast was lovely and the staff in attendance were lovely too. We had to be at the University very early and we were running a bit late. My daughter was getting rather anxious and stressed that she would not get to Uni in time. I pulled up to the car park barrier in the car (as I was going to park in the spaces outside the car park to hand in my key card as I thought I paid my bill on arrival). However, the car barrier didnt lift up. I ran into the hotel to ask for some help and there were 2 customers in front of me but no other staff on reception or about. The receptionist was Valentina. I pleasantly interrupted Valentina as I was now in a real hurry and I told her I was in a hurry and that the car park barrier wouldnt go up and she informed me bluntly / rudely that I had to wait my turn. I explained again that I was in a hurry but she didnt care about this and made no attempt to get someone else to help at the desk. The gentlemen 2nd in the queue kindly let me go in front, but when the customers she was serving left, she spoke to me like dirt. She made no attempt to go any quicker in fact I think she served me slower on purpose. She informed me that I actually didnt pay my bill the evening before. She continued to speak to me curtly and made no consideration that I was genuinely in a hurry. She accused ME of being rude. At the end of the day if the hotel had advised me that night before that my card transaction was not an actual payment and that we needed to pay our bill the next day before leaving, I would have made sure earlier that I paid my bill well before we had to leave. I really think Valentina needs to go on a people skills course and appreciate that if someone says they are genuinely in a hurry she calls for help and assistance. I should have left your high note, but I didnt, I left feeling stressed, upset and insulted. Valentina spoilt the first part of my happy day.

"Could be Should be - But is isn't "
Martin M, 05 Juillet 2018

This is a quirky hotel - a really old characterful front end with a newer accommodation block. It's a quiet haven, amazing as it's so close to the centre of Birmingham. The rooms are tired, no air con, no fridge and decorations are being done. The bar calm and pleasant. The restaurant - NO. Any Chef who serves Camembert and piccalilli as there is no Brie and cranberry needs shooting! The Lamb Shank was tough as a mudder and the Mash was a pre prepped concoction which was as close to Smash without being Smash as I have ever suffered. Loved the Merlot and the staff really friendly. So use it again I would but I would eat out.

"Great staff"
allison835, 04 Juillet 2018

I've been staying here for a few weeks now and the staff at the hotel are so welcoming and can't do enough for you. The hotel itself is really cute and comfortable. I love staying here. The rooms are very spacious and very clean. The bed is comfy with crisp white linen. Room service is a lovely treat to have.

"Plough & Harrow Hotel Edgbaston Birmingham,"
dogrot1959, 25 Juin 2018

A very Pleasant hotel in the middle of Birmingham at an old coaching house, which has lots of character. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff very helpful. The only item that was missing was a lift to the floors, but being an old building this is probably the reason why a lift can not be retro fitted. The breakfast was fairly good, although the bacon a little overcooked, but that could be a chef issue, which does not always happen. The party on the evening was well managed by the catering staff which added to the enjoyment of the night.

"Amazing staff & excellent food"
karenalgacs, 25 Juin 2018

I attended my aunts 70th birthday party where she had booked a three course meal for around 50 family & friends. The staff were super helpful and friendly .The meal was delicious. Many of us stayed in the hotel too, although the rooms are a bit tired they were clean and adequate. The garden out the back was great for the kids to fun around later during the disco. I would recommend this hotel for a fun and good value family party. All the staff are lovely , helpful and friendly.????????????

"Weekend away"
Christine F, 18 Juin 2018

Lovely hotel, good location, friendly staff. Like many Best Western there was no lift. Got upgraded to executive room which was very nice. There was a wedding on which they did warn us about but it wasn't an issue. Would definitely use this hotel again if in the area.

"Not the Dorchester but served us well!"
Deltablade, 17 Juin 2018

Plough & Harrow An independently run hotel until a few weeks ago, now under the auspices of Best Western. We chose it purposely because it is walkable to the centre of Brum (0.6 mls) and has a car park. Our room was rather a trek from Reception and we had to navigate a warren of corridors and stairs to get there ..that said, we did ask for a quiet room so no complaints! Room did not have AC and the windows opened only partially so it was quite opressive on arrival ..we were given a fan however that helped and by evening the heat had receded. Room was very spacious if not palatial but for the price we paid it was very acceptable. The whole place has grown little tired though it was evident that a gradual programme of refurbishment is in hand (I think in general folk these days are more inclined to go for modern hotels ..so a sign of the times). It was our first experience of a hotel without a lift ..happily we are fit but the less nimble might find the quirky layout a challenge! :-) Breakfast was very good and the waiting staff chatty and efficient ..it does make such a difference. If you're looking for a recommendation I'd suggest avoiding a centrally located hotel in Birmingham as, unlike some cities, the main centre (around Broad Street) is not exactly a cultural oasis & parking is both inconvenient and expensive. Staff were excellent & the hotel was spotless ..well done the housekeeping team!

"Exceptionally helpful staff"
R1039GHjuliae, 09 Juin 2018

My husband was seriously ill in the QEhospital. I stayed here on numerous occasions during May. The staff were incredibly helpful. I stayed in a variety of rooms. All beds were comfortable and great hot water. Any issues were dealt with promptly. Breakfast was excellent. Food was freshly prepared so there is a slight wait but well worth it. Free car parking. It is possible to walk into the centre of Birmingham. Reception contacted taxis for me and were prompt. Stayed with other family members and on my own. Would highly recommend.

"Good alternative to the city centre tower blocks"
JohnNWales, 07 Juin 2018

Stayed for only one night on business as a cheaper and more interesting alternative to the city centre hotels plus I had to drive so parking was important. Easy to find although the nature of the Haguely Road (with its central barrier) meant there was only access from the direction heading into Birmingham - coming the other way means a slight detour. Shame there isn't another entrance/exit at the back. The person on reception was very friendly and helpful. Parking seems secure and the gardens are well kept. Bit of a rabbit warren once you're inside - there is a newer extension added on to the much older main building. The room was a little tired but clean and the bed very comfortable, not too soft. I was happy with my choice and would certainly stay again, especially if driving.

"Some good and some not so good."
dwil94, 03 Juin 2018

We stayed in this hotel so we could attend a family party. As a rewards customer we got a good rate which included breakfast (not usually included as standard). The welcome from the receptionist was great, good sense of humour and got us into our room early. The room was spotlessly clean (and I really check high and low!) So well done to them and thank you. After going out in the afternoon we popped back to grab some room service before going out only to be told we couldn't order anything because a wedding was taking place, changes like this need to be published because there is very little available in the immediate area, ended up with a burger at a bowlplex which was alright but we were then late out with all the walking about. Bar staff were friendly when we came back in and sorted us out with drinks even though it was late. Great sleep as bed super comfy. Lovely hot shower. (Quick note great to have an iron in the room to iron out the creases!!). Breakfast was all a bit chaotic. Continental breakfast bits laid out to help yourself to but items ran out and not replenished quickly. Cheese, yogurts and fruit sitting in direct sun, not good. A while to have hot food order taken and customers orders not taken in order of coming in. Food came out and wasn't as requested, very mediocre. A lot of this seemed to be due to lack of staff on the floor. We would stay here again but would seek out a cafe for breakfast.

"Great hotel "
Tessa C, 01 Juin 2018

Stayed here for an early interview. Was spotlessly clean, better than some 4 star hotels. Breakfast was extremely tasty. Never tasted eggs benedict like it. Was worth the wait as all meals cooked to order. Would stay here again without a moment's hesitation

"A comfortable hotel"
Mikey_P7, 24 Mai 2018

This is a comfortable hotel which is perfect for a short stay. The room was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and polite. The breakfast was nice but a bit expensive. I would happily stay here again.

"Pleasant traditional"
Donna T, 19 Mai 2018

Went here on the off chance of getting some lunch. Suggested by salesperson. Lovely, clean, unassuming. Great light lunch. Good service. There was a garden and a restaurant. Too cold to eat outside when we were there.

"A goldie oldie"
writerstout, 12 Mai 2018

We spent one night and would recommend it to anyone who treasures character over glitz. This hotel hosted J. R. Tolkien in 1919 and as you walk about it you know what old English hospitality is all about. The place is impeccably clean, somewhat rambling, and you can't get away from the sense that you're in an old castle because of the creaky floors. King Edward VII stayed here when he was still the Prince of Wales but I doubt the floors bothered him much, as they didn't bother me. The rooms, though small, are well appointed, the breakfast is good, the parking is excellent and safe and the staff are all prepared to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure your stay is a good one. I couldn't ask for anything more. The Best Western Plough and Harrow should be considered if you're staying in the Birmingham area.

"Comfortable beds :-)"
Jodieroberts, 12 Mai 2018

I stayed here with a friend in April for 2 nights (Saturday and Sunday) and the room was lush !!! The receptionist that was there to greet and check us in was great and super friendly (despite being asked to pay when I had already paid hahaa) the only reason I have not given 5 stars is due to the fact the fire alarms had gone off on the Monday morning (around 10:50, check out is 11) and they were 3 sharp blasts. As we checked out the receptionist did not ask how our stay had been or anything and when I asked what the noise had been, she looked at me blankly and simply said “the fire alarm test” and might as well have said “duuuhhhh” on the end of that for the way she said it. I just want to add, we had not been told about the fire test and had not seen anything stating this would happen however, when we left we saw a sign on reception about the fire alarm test being done at 11am on Monday's, but I'm almost 100% sure it was not there when we checked in. Either way, with knowing we were there the 2 nights I feel we should have been told. The only other criticism I have is the carpets leading to the rooms. They are splattered in some yellow substance which looks like someone has projectile vomited along the corridor. Despite that, there are many many positives to the hotel. The location is unreal, close to Broad street, close to shops and close to supermarkets and the rooms are adorable. And the restaurant staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble :-)

"Adequate apart from the shower"
nettlebed6, 11 Mai 2018

Reasonable price and a reasonable room. Be warned there is no lift “as it is a listed building” was the excuse I was given. The room was very warm so I was glad the windows opened. Checking in was fine. What is this new trend in the uk for receptionists not to ask if you have had a good stay? It is becoming frustratingly common. I would rather have issues dealt with in person than go home and write a review. The shower was a killer. The temperature dial was stuck on ‘scald', neither of us could work out how to cool it sufficiently to use it. The water pressure was also low. Overall apart from the shower it did the job. Easy and cheap to get a bus into town and back and no problem parking on site.

"Dinner and dance"
docH77, 07 Mai 2018

I attended 70s and 80s night with work colleagues. The food was good, but staff was taking away the plates without asking and took my starter and main before i was finished. So they were very rude in this way otherwise bar staff was nice and service was good. DJ was okay.

"Better than the website may suggest"
Swinely, 06 Mai 2018

We were initially a bit sceptical given some of the photos online. However, the hotel was ideal in all aspects. Very comfy bed and overall good value. Some rooms are a little walk from reception, but that's understandable with an older building with great character

"Pleasant at the Plough and Harrow"
Mesbah S, 06 Mai 2018

My friend and I attended a dinner and dance here. The dinner was fine but the service was ad hoc. Inexperienced waiting staff . The building itself has character; Tolkien stayed here once upon a time. The music was great but the DJ lacked enthusiasm and appeared bored.

"Event -70's and 80's disco!!"
Floridaletsadream, 05 Mai 2018

Approx. 14 attended your event night of the 70's and 80's disco for my sister's birthday the waitress were excellent and served in a timely manner. The food was very good, served hot and when additional butter was needed it came to the table promptly. Drinks could be ordered at the table. Hotel and staff very accommodating when seeing to all other guests and ourselves. Room and dinner table was set out lovely and the event was not over booked which was great. Ample of parking and very close to the City Centre of Birmingham.

"Overnight stay"
Marie J, 29 Avril 2018

Great hotel amazing staff. Restaurant team were amazing. The food is out of this world . The only issue was that I'm a wheelchair user and booked an executive room. I Informed the receptionist that I use a wheelchair and checked the room would be suitable for me. On arrival found all executive rooms are up 2 flights if stairs. No lift. They don't have accessible rooms unless you go through the car park and enter through the back. Great hotel if you are mobile but for wheelchair users in the future unfortunately I won't be returning.

"Classic Afternoon Tea"
Julie M, 27 Avril 2018

Myself and 3 friends went this week for afternoon tea here and had a lovely afternoon. The hotel was really nice we was sat in comfy chairs and felt really relaxed . The food was fantastic, good choice of finger foods, cakes, delicious warm fresh scones and unlimited tea and coffee. The staff couldn't do enough for us, checking on us on several occasions to see if we was OK and did we need fresh tea. We was there for 2 & half hours and never felt rushed. Will be back very soon

"EXCELLENT HOTEL - Close to town centre"
Mike D, 23 Avril 2018

On arrival at the hotel, car park was easily accessible with plenty of spaces. Hotel staff were extremely pleasant helpful giving us bus numbers, telephone number for taxi service for travelling into town, as well as other information about walking distance to town / arena. Rooms were large, clean and well presented with WiFi, TV and Tea/Coffee facilities. Bar area was lovely and well stocked with helpful staff on hand. Breakfast was fantastic on our first morning, quickly prepared and lovely. Second morning was slightly different, breakfast was still great but slightly less organised (maybe due to wedding reception on previous evening not helping matters). Would certainly stay at this hotel again.

"Our wedding day "
get6, 23 Avril 2018

What can we say. This was a brilliant venue for our wedding ceremony and reception. It was well organised, friendly, relaxing and seamless. Paul was very helpful and supportive throughout the 9 months of planning. Saul and Kyle were brilliant on the day/night. My wife and I felt confident in their management and ability throughout the whole event. The building is stunning inside and the pictures taken were beautiful. The suite we stayed in was elegant and very well maintained. It is a classy venue and I would recommend this place to anybody after a top notch service, a- class food and delivery, friendly calm staff and a seamless day which will be treasured forever. We will continue to visit here for other events they offer for a long time to come. Also a special thank you to Sereena who initially arranged all our requests.

"Handy for the City"
r_sumner52, 23 Avril 2018

I have used the Plough & Harrow several times so we can attend evening events in Birmingham & not have to drive home. Its is very handy as its walking distance to Broad Street and some of the theatres as well as the shopping centre. A comfortable hotel with helpful staff & good food.

"Overnight Stay"
Michael C, 19 Avril 2018

Booked for the night whilst visiting the NIA Arena, just a short walk away. Reception were very helpful and friendly. Good, prompt check-in. Rooms were a bit of a treck from reception but were adequate. Needs a lot of TLC and updating. Very quiet considering the main road running past hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and well presented, a good start to the day. Check out was easy and once again pleasant staff. A reasonable hotel at a reasonable price.

"Old but comfy"
ManxMountaineers, 16 Avril 2018

It's a bit of a rabbit warren, but when you get to your room it's large if tired. But clean and a nice big telly, but so many cupboards... Breakfast was ok, but low throughput on the weekends means stewed mushrooms and semi set scrambled egg. Toaster was ‘unusual', so much do that fires broke out on two mornings as guests struggled to master it.

"Not recomended."
mandyj407, 16 Avril 2018

Went here for afternoon tea with my daughter. Hotel seems a bit dated, chips in the coffee pot and cracked cups. Think the sandwiches had been left out as they were starting to curl, and there was next to no ham on the ham and mustard. The selection of cakes are tiny and warm (also left out??) The only nice thing was the scones, warm and fresh. I wouldn't return or recommend especially what they charge.

"Perfect for the city and Drayton Manor"
Zoe021905, 15 Avril 2018

I stayed for a night with my daughters and had a man excellent stay. The hotel is charming and close enough to the city centre to make it easy for us to go to Selfridges and the Bullring for shopping. We enjoyed a nice lunch snack and prosecco in the lounge before heading into town. The bedroom 121 was large, had everything we needed and good value. Breakfast was also good and the service efficient and friendly. The following day we took my youngest daughter to Drayton Manor using tickets bought at the hotel reception.

"Drayton Manor Break"
Laura P, 12 Avril 2018

Had a fantastic stay. Arrived to a warm welcome from the lady on reception. Checked into our very nice room with gorgeous bathroom! Sat in the bar for a lovely glass of ice cold Prosecco. Then we walked through to Beaufort Bar where we tried 1 of their many gins. Had a great night sleep (fab pillows too). Lovely breakfast - so much choice! I will be back again for another short break. Birmingham was a pleasant surprise!

"Poor value. Poor chef"
MePickyPicky2014, 03 Avril 2018

FIRSTLY. Had a table for five on Easter Sunday. Normally they have a selection of four choices per starters, main course and sweet so would have perhaps expected five + choices for what is considered by many the most important event in history including a fish. BUT NO. Instead, a lesser choice of three. 1st course OK. Main course = Lamb, Beef or for the vegan/vegetarians a very simple salad. Now most of us can whip up a salad at home with no problem SO when one goes out for a special treat one expects the chef to have a little more imagination than a salad for £26. SECONDLY the vegetarian asked for the beef without the beef, and instead asked that the beef was put into a doggy bag. Later it was asked that any leftovers from any plate was put in the same doggy bag. (We have 6dogs) The lamb on one elderly ladies plate was so tough with sinew and stringy fat running through we had to ask for a serrated steak knife with which to cut it. Most however was left as it was inedible. Some of the vegetables and two roast potatoes were left due to being full. Thus we should have had in the doggy bag two+slices of beef, the lamb bits, two potatoes and the veg. What was in the bag was some chewed remains of lamb. SO do they reuse the vegetables and heat them up for others ?. AND do they consider it good practice to charge £26 for a few potatoes & vegetables?. The meat dish was paid for in full, so anyone charging for a product and not provided is called THEFT. We spoke to the manager and was told that normally they have four choices including a fish (appropriate for Christ and Easter) BUT that a special Easter menu was put instead. Well I am sorry but if that is how they choose to treat guests it at least explains why only 11folk on three tables were present, and that we will be going elsewhere in future. Must also state that our waitress was wonderful, so no problem there.

"What a Gem"
annettemaylong, 27 Mars 2018

Stayed in this glorious traditional hotel last week to visit the World Gymnastics with my daughter. Free on site car parking was great. Beautifully decorated warm hotel. All staff had a smile. The breakfast was super. The restaurant with its background music and large windows looking out on the gardens was very pleasant. We did not have dinner at the hotel as we walked to the Arena (comfortable 20 minutes). Both our rooms were thoroughly clean and the bathrooms tastefully decorated. I was in 114 above reception and my daughter in 102 a bit further away. Both rooms were faultless. I would definately recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

"An historic building in a quiet location"
RoosterTA, 20 Mars 2018

This is not city centre, but it is not far away from plenty of interest. It was a fine building in its day, hence its grade II listed status. The staff were great. This is not the poshest, but it was a very pleasant stay for me. My room was great, really nice, but if the hotel is full and you are in an outlier, probably not so good

"Lovely building"
potterstop, 18 Mars 2018

Stayed for a couple of nights , lovely old building with real character . Rooms need updating but are comfortable and very spacious and very clean. A special word for all the great staff _ they made our weekend (the young girl in the breakfast room was lovely and jolly !)Breakfast was fab also with plenty of choice .One of the staff even brushed the snow of our car _ what a kind gesture . A plus for this hotel is that it has a free car park which is safe and secure and is walking distance to town which we did a couple of times. Many thanks for a wonderful stay !

"Afternoon Tea at Plough and Harrow "
EBWestMids, 18 Mars 2018

An afternoon tea treat, bought as a birthday gift was spoiled by flat prosecco, stale bread, oily spread, and shop bought scones and mini cakes. The hotel boasts tradition set in leafy grounds and for that you would expect some form of grandeur. We were sat at the far end of the restaurant where afternoon tea was being served, which was cold and soulless. It soon became clear that the prosecco I had purchased at the bar was completely flat, something the person pouring it (who turned out to be barman, maitre d' and table runner) couldn't have failed to notice as he was doing so!! When I asked for it to be changed, the look on his face and his immediate response told me he had known. The tea and coffees were lukewarm, the bread was dry, and the use of cheap, oily spread instead of butter was unforgivable. The salmon used in one of the sandwich choices was the brown end that you get when you buy smoked salmon cuts in the supermarket. I would also expect any hotel group that offers afternoon tea as a part of its traditional heritage, to have the skills of a pastry chef in its employ. What I don't expect is shop-bought scones that started out microwave warm at the beginning of service and therefore dry and crumbly by the time we got to it. And I don't expect previously frozen (soggy, bland centres is a giveaway) mini pastries. The waitress that took over from the gentleman, who himself was well turned out in a suit and tie, couldn't have been more different in her attire. The backward tied headscarf (knot at front) was a puzzle and certainly not a front of house look. Her clattering of plates and cups and her clearing of only half the table throughout was almost amusing and reminded me of Julie Walters' ‘Mrs Overall'. Overall very disappointing and it was as though someone had been given a few quid to spend at the Morrison's supermarket 200 yards down the road, to buy as cheaply as possible so they could whack it out for £19.50 per person. My friend, who paid for the tea, gave the afternoon a 5 out of 10, which suggests an average effort. I would move it to a 3 out of 10 as a more suitable score for the below average offering. If you don't mind afternoon tea put together from supermarket acquired shopping, then go to the Marriott just down the road where their tea is just that (seemingly), but at least served fresh, and is a few pounds cheaper. Alternatively, if you want a proper treat, go to The Edgbaston, just a short walk away from the Plough and Harrow and an amazing experience for not much more money.

"Afternoon tea on a snowy day"
Attia D, 14 Mars 2018

Used our voucher for an afternoon tea at the Plough & Harrow. Beautiful surroundings but a bit cold and staff couldn't turn up the heating. It was snowing & the windows made it lòok picturesque. Plenty of hot tea and coffee. Sandwiches, cakes and scones - staff very accomodating when asked to swap some of the cakes for more sandwiches. Lovely relaxing afternoon

"Nice hotel shame about the service"
Karla H, 12 Mars 2018

My husband and i stayed here on saturday having spent the day ay crufts. Nice hotel and food in the adjoining pub was very good. On arrival we were informed that we were to stay in a superior room...hopes raised. Alas the room was on a par with other budget hotels...bathroom had a cold water tap that completely spun around if you used it. Would imagine that a previous occupant of the room had also thought it fun to snap off the radiator thermostat after turning it up full. The heat in the room was unbearable..thankfully on ringing reception they managed to turn it off centrally. We were informed that breakfast was served between 8 and 10 am. Having a long journey home we arrived for breakfast at 8. We had to check our watches as there were staff present...nothing set in terms of food. We seated ourselves and waited. A man came out talking on his mobile phone about the fact that staff hadnt turned up for work...bless him he did seem to be doing his best to set things up. Help arrived and eventually we started breakfast at 8.45. Checking out the girl was disinterested and only spoke to say i suppose you need the code for the car park barrier....no hope you enjoyed your stay..not even a smile. Seems that apart from a couple staff members there..this lovely hotel suffers from the attitude of staff and work ethics needed for the hospitality business. Again no real complaint as such but some constructive comments if heeded.

"1st visit "
Katiewilliams21, 11 Mars 2018

Really happy with the level of service here! Me and my partner really enjoyed it! Great atmosphere and lovely food. Room was tidy And very comfortable... best sleep both myself and my partner have experienced in a while!

"Great stay "
Hughes93, 11 Mars 2018

My partner and I had a great stay at The Plough and Harrow. We were lucky enough to be able to stay in the old house and we weren't disappointed. The architecture in the room/corridors was lovely. The bathroom was also very grand and the room included a very comfortable bed. A great stay - very reasonable price for such a grand room.

"Very Average... "
Scott L, 06 Mars 2018

I stay away regularly with work and normally stay in Premier Inn's, I decided I would give somewhere else a try. Staff are helpful and friendly... but, they need to learn when to have personal conversations or arguments when not in front of guests. The Room; Big no complaints about the room size. The rooms interior is dated and needs a refresh. Clean bedding. Large Tv with freeview channels. Kettle, tea & coffee. The Bathroom; This was a massive shock... really unclean. Hair (of all variety unfortunately) on the sink, on the toilet, in the bath (blocking the plug hole) on the floor. Not impressed by this at all. The food Breakfast was good & dinner was ok... but nothing special. All in all not a great experience. I won't be rushing back.

"OK, just don't go there when its cold outside"
kik38, 03 Mars 2018

It was -6C outside but when I went to my room the heating hadn't been turned on and the bathroom floor never really got warm enough for bare feet, the main building has been sympathetically modernised and the lounge area was warm, but I don't think the rooms have been modernised since I last stayed in the same room in about 2001. The beds are modern and comfortable though and a good breakfast too.

"More food found in a child's lunchbox!!! "
HelenH1989, 23 Février 2018

Booked afternoon tea a couple of weeks ago and they cancelled the day before, however, it was my nans 93rd birthday so we decided to give it another try. Welcomed by a really unprofessional waitress who took one drink order when there were 8 of us. When she returned we had to repeat the drink order! We waited 30 minutes for the food to come out, before asking the waitress. When the afternoon tea finally arrived, we were surprised to only have two small finger sandwiches each. The waitress later said there would be more sandwiches coming, only to be brought out when the puddings had been eaten. The two waitresses were no where to be seen at one point and we were the only ones in the place. No how is your meal? Would you like anything else? When we paid, we raised our concern only to be told by the manager “I've only just started so I can't do anything.” Would not recommend! £20 for three finger sandwiches when there's a selection of four stated on the menu, scones and three miniature cakes small enough for the borrowers to eat!! Waste of an afternoon and really disappointing. Will not be returning!

"Valentines night dinner and dance"
Burtcroghan, 21 Février 2018

We had booked for an overnight stay on Saturday night for the valentines dinner and dance. Reception pleasant and explained that they had to take 10.00 off a card and that it would be repaid in 10 days even though we were paying cash. Hotel is very nice with a traditional decor and our room 120 was lovely and clean, with tea, coffee and milk and toiletries. The valentines evening was a bit of a flop with only about 26 people there. Dj was fairly good with music from the 70 and 80s. The menu was a set choice of 3 starters/ 3 main/3 desert. We ordered our meal and the starter we had was smoked mackerel with focaccia and garlic mayonnaise, it was ok but the bread was rock hard. Main was fillet of cod in Serrano ham with creamy spinach and new potatoes, we both got a very small piece of cod and green beans which were grey in colour and a few beans which we not cooked, I did ask the waiter where the spinach was and he went and got us a small bowl of spinach which was very wet not creamy. Desert chocolate mouse with dark cherries served with a cherry sauce, we just got the mouse so again I asked for the cherries and they again came in a small bowl. No coffee was offered and after the meal the staff just disappeared. The meal is was very disappointing and poor. Breakfast was help your self, toast, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and tea and coffee in flasks. Breakfast was okay but nothing special. Overall we both got the impression that no one was actually in charge and no one knew who was doing what. Very disappointed with the whole experience and expensive for what we actually got. We have been to this hotel before and have enjoyed our stay however we were really shocked how it had gone down hill.

"Annoying!!!"
scottwootton, 19 Février 2018

The hotel is average, and average price so I won't moan about that. I'm afraid the issues we had were with staff that really weren't interested. Greeted by a receptionist that wasn't very welcoming, Gave us no info on breakfast, only telling us about a valentines meal they were doing, Not asking if we wanted to attend, more a heads up it was happening. She then took £10 off my card as a preauthorisation if I wanted to pay by card. No explanation that if I didn't use my card it would take a week to be put back in my account. On check out I had to wait 20 mins Only to have the receptionist try to change everyone twice for their stay. Then the next day I discover they took out the charge twice anyway. I just get the feeling that nobody cared about me, my business or wether I enjoyed my stay or not.

"Trip including Cadbury world "
Clapetjac, 13 Février 2018

We stayed here last night - 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 & 5. I had paid the extra £25 for interconnecting rooms - worth every penny to not have to creep around 2 sleeping children! Rooms were large and clean. Not keen on the toiletries, glad I bought my own. Very friendly staff on the reception desk. Only let down was breakfast -the cooked options were tasteless and basically not very nice! As a stopover on route to Cadbury world however, the hotel was good.

"Ok. But only ok. "
Paul G, 12 Février 2018

This is a great location for central Birmingham, so we booked for a night at symphony Hall. On arrival we felt like we were gate crashing a wedding. The ONLY route to the bedroom was through a crowded wedding reception. It was uncomfortable and not what one would expect. The hotel is not accessible friendly in the least. The route to the room was a labyrinth of passageways and stairs, with no lifts available, so be aware that less able / mobile guests will not find this a suitable hotel. The hotel itself is very clean, very tidy and the decor is pretty nice throughout. Our room was a little cold, and the bathroom door had no functioning door catch or door lock, meaning that the door crept open. The bar was being used by the wedding, so a nightcap, although possible, didn't happen as we really didn't feel comfortable joining the wedding party. Checking out was also an issue as there wasn't anyone on reception, we stood and waited, called out etc, but no one came. Thankfully the car park code was displayed on the desk so we could at least leave. For a cheap no thrills overnight stay it's ok, but then again if that's what you are after there are many budget hotel groups who do it betterand are more upfront about it.

"Good hotel"
W7361FKjc, 10 Février 2018

Lovely hotel, room a little cold, staff very friendly and helpful. Food very good. The hotel was having works completed and had not fully completed the vent work, as a result we could hear people in room above us when in the bathroom, as a result we were given the option to move to another room.

"Great value hotel"
Steven B, 05 Février 2018

The Plough and Harrow is a great value hotel. It's a large hotel, many rooms and a good bar / restaurant area. My room was comfortable but decor was slightly dated, but for the price and location it's a really good choice.

"Excellent accommodation with close links to Birmingham city"
Anita J, 02 Février 2018

We stayed in this hotel along Hagley Road (there are other Plough & Harrows in Birmingham) as we had tickets at the Barclaycard Arena and our chosen Best Western hotel was a very pleasant stay. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The hotel was easy to find and full of charm and character and the bonus was that it had a car park for residents. Our room was comfortable with a nice decor and the dining room where we ate our breakfast the next morning was a beautiful room with large leaded picturesque windows so that we could enjoy the snow flakes which had just started falling. A great hotel which we will use for any future visits to Birmingham.

"visiting family"
champsg, 30 Janvier 2018

Booked 2 rooms and given x2 rooms in Basement of the hotel. On arrival there was a wedding in full swing. Our rooms were extremely cold. Tried to turn on heating but not able to do this. I went to reception and informed them and was told that they will turn the heating on. Went back down and saw a hotel worker and mentioned that the rooms are extremely cold. She informed me that they have been like this for some time and kindly said she will find me a heater which she did. She informed me that she was only able to find one heater as all the others are being used in other rooms that have no heating! she said that the brides room had two heaters and she got me one from there. I realised that I have been misinformed by the reception staff when she said the heating will be turned on.. I returned to the reception to ask to speak to the manger. She said she will get him but after waiting 10 mints I gave up and used the one heater and kept changing it from one room to another to keep the rooms warm. I just want to thank the lovely maid who was the only honest /helpful person in the hotel.

"Birthday celebrations "
fatmommahousr, 27 Janvier 2018

Went for my sons birthday. Large party of 15. Lots of contact before to pre book meals and what temp to cook pre ordered steaks. Made to feel welcome on arrival. We had an extra guest so had to add another main to order.... that was no problem. A pre check on orders and temp for steaks before seating us. Waitress -katie- again checked orders and temps of steaks. Starters arrived and we were impressed. Very tasty!!! We then had a little bit of a wait before main arrived but they were worth the wait. Everyone said how nice the food was. Katies our waitress for the eve was well attentive, we couldnt of asked for better. Nothing was too much trouble and she made our evening a very enjoyable experience! She is an asset to the restaurant. We will def be back. Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thanks to all at the plough and harrow.

"Fantastic service from staff on Murder Mystery Night!"
Joanna001122, 27 Janvier 2018

We hadn't stayed at this hotel before but had stayed in Birmingham many times over the last 20 years. Despite a very challenging and busy Murder Mystery Night we had superb service from Manager Dave and his team. Finding 5 extra seats for customers is difficult at the best of times, but the Manager sorted it in a calm professional manner and we had a fantastic meal, atmosphere was great, and room clean and quiet with all the essentials for a building built in the 1700's. Breakfast was cooked to order and lovely selection. Would definitely recommend for the proximity to Broad St and Birmingham.

"Excellent hotel & good value"
michaelellis77, 24 Janvier 2018

This is a lovely hotel for a 3 star, not far from the Arena which we were going to for a show. A nice bar area and lounge and the rooms are good size and with an excellent breakfast. The rates seemed very good too.

"Very poor service"
amjsrn, 20 Janvier 2018

Room was fine but the hotel was supposed to have 24 hour room service. Ordered sandwiches at 10.30pm. Took ages to get them then not very good, cheap bread, horrible ham, no mustard as stated on menu. Asked for two lots only got one and the latté was cold! Ordered toasted muffin with crispy bacon and poached egg. They forgot or lost the order and we reminded them after 25 mins. It arrived a few minutes later. Muffin not toasted, bacon definitely not crispy and in fact only luke warm, white of egg not cooked in parts (see photo). Definitely not the standard expected of Best Western.

"New Years Eve 2017"
susanlei, 03 Janvier 2018

We had not been to the Plough and Harrow for many years and some of the recent trip advisor reviews were of concern to us however we had a really lovely evening. We like to dress up for new year and many guests, like us, were in formal attire. The welcome on Reception was sincere. The 6 course meal was 5 star standard and the waitress service at just the right pace. The team on the bar were helpful and efficient. The disco from 10.30 pm onwards was not too loud and the music choice was excellent leading up to a friendly and enjoyable welcome to 2018. Everyone, including the staff, joined in the party to see in the New Year at midnight with a glass of champagne. We stayed the night and found the decor in our room to be a little jaded though clean and comfortable however the en suite was new and very nice. Breakfast on New Years Day was excellent. All in all we both agreed this was one of the best new years eve parties we have been to for a long time. It was like being with friends at a family party and we will be booking again for next year all being well.

"Good accommodation at cheap price"
popsNcass, 24 Décembre 2017

I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and very spacious. For such a cheap room I had been a bit wary but I'd be very happy to stay here again. The room was very nice and roomy and I slept well. Parking was easy and plentiful. The only downside was that I could hear everything that was said in the room next door via the vent in the bathroom. We stayed here for a gig at the Arena Birmingham and it was a very easy 10/15 min walk.

"Tolkien's Rest"
Kate B, 22 Décembre 2017

I checked in early to the Plough and Harrow for my one night stay, Intending to drop off a bag. The efficient receptionist warned me that the room would not be ready for an hour or so.but said I was welcome to use it. However as I pushed open the door I saw that the previous occupant had staged a battle reconstruction from Braveheart mostly on the bed and carpet. This room, even after thorough cleaning, would not be for me! The receptionist was most sympathetic and apologetic and changed the room immediately - just as this was happening the manager appeared and upgraded my room to a suite. This new apartment was delightful. A vast space with several rooms: a drawing room with sofa and huge TV, an ante room with fridge and tea and coffee, a copacious bedroom, with US size double bed, antiques, and impressive drapes and a double bathroom with underfloor heating bath shower and sinks! Having recently stayed in Hawaii in a beach hotel at $1500 a night the rooms were very similar. So thank you to the manager whose quick response demonstrated great customer service. The history of this building is intriguing, Tolkien stayed here in 1914, and many of the great and not so good also enjoyed the hospitality offered by a once great hotel. It now deserves a complete refurbishment. Breakfast although cheap was disappointing - I chose poached egg and kippers - enjoyable but frugal -but the buffet also on offer was tragic; stale croissant sliced bread and little else.... Breakfast is easy to rectify, it's one thing a hotel, whatever it's state, with a decent chef and staff can delight it's clients. I would certainly recommend the Plough,it deserves preservation, where faceless, cold chain hotels reign the Plough could be a much needed alternative!

"Brilliant"
Claire S, 22 Décembre 2017

Wedding here. Family room was great , food and choice to eat was great , staff were brilliant , very happy with the whole experience of the place . Car park at the back and you have a code for you to use that car park .

"Shambolic"
revontherange, 20 Décembre 2017

Despite ordering a buffet for 5 omnivores and 5 veggies the whole buffet was meat. When we complained the server actually said can't the veggies eat fish? Then we were accused of stealing a bottle of wine only to have the woman at the end of the night present us with the one "we paid for but hadn't collected" and the two bottles of fizz they forgot to serve at the beginning of the night. We complained in the morning to the bar manager who is still yet to get back to us a week on....

"Afternoon Tea"
brodiesmate, 18 Décembre 2017

Such a soothing ambience, love the classical decor and afternoon tea was a delight, exactly how it should be felt quite Downton Abbey, staff were friendly but service rather slow which suited us as gave us plenty of time to chat.

"Work xmas lunch"
Oren1975, 15 Décembre 2017

We have been coming here for xmas work lunch for 4 years now ,location is central to everyone coming from different sides of birmingham, free parking, had chicken parfait for starters not bad, roast beef dinner was good, had cheese and biscuits for afters, although some mentioned that the lemon meringue was a bit dry. Service excellent, they catered to the organisers surprise numbers. Staff were polite and efficient ,drinks are priced well. Relaxed atmosphere.Overall experience very good.

"Big disappointment "
jennyx21, 15 Décembre 2017

We had our work Xmas night out here. Motown night. The food was fine. The entertainment was appalling. Wasn't playing Motown at all. Music was dreadful. Dj was very miserable. No party atmosphere. There were 4 large tables/groups, two groups left after the food leaving two groups of people. About 20 people.how embarrassing that's how bad it was. Also the bar is very expensive. £8.50 for one glass of wine and one coke. I most definitely will not be coming here again. I'm sure the managers response will be "thanks for writing,I'll look into It" Management you need to listen!

"What a disappointment ll"
geoff w, 07 Décembre 2017

Went for a Christmas lunch with a large group of people.Waited 25 minutes for someone /anyone to open the bar.Staff didn't know where drinks were kept.Lots of everyday drinks not kept in stock and didn't have the correct glasses for the drinks. Our meals were just about ok. Starter was ok main meal was tiny and cold.We felt sorry for the waitresses as they were trying to serve us all.Sweet was poor and cold.
