    « Innovative hotel »

This is our 5th consecutive stay here. Each year there is an added attraction to make our stay even more enjoyable. This year was the refurbishment of the Front courtyard with its pleasing decor and furniture. As usual the courtesy bus service was outstanding and greatly appreciated.

Very nice hotel with good facilities and great location. Although on a very steel hill, there are easier routes to walk or have a taxi. All areas of the hotel spotlessly clean. All staff extremely helpful and pleasant. King room was lovely and spacious, with some nice touches, ie bathrobes, slippers, excellent selection of tea/coffee, fresh fruit. Good shower pressure in bathroom and lovely toiletries. Breakfast was good and varied. We dined in the Copenhagen Bar & Grill one night, which was superb. Very handy shuttle service to and from the Town. Will definitely return to this hotel.

« As good as ever. »

A mere "tick-box" assessment of this hotel would score it very highly indeed. All the things that can be measured that way are of the highest order. But that is only part of the story. Where it is head and shoulders above all the other places we stay is the attitude of all the staff. Their only concern is that your stay should be the best. Whether it be your room, food or any special requirement you have, they go out of their way to make it happen and always with a positive and cheerful "can-do" approach. Even better, they still have proper keys for the room doors, none of those key cards that only work some of the time!

    « Great location / lovely hotel »

Lovely hotel with great views of the sea. Friendly staff. A nice swimming pool and comfortable bedrooms. The restaurant attached to the hotel is called Copenhagen and it is excellent. I normally stay at the sister hotel the Moores as it is closer to work but when they are full I would always stay here. Even if you do not stay going to the restaurant is a must !

Stayed with friends over the bank holiday weekend, great value, good accommodation, very friendly staff, would definitely return. Bit of a hill climb to get to it but the views are great, well priced restaurant and bar.

    « Excellent as always »

Have reviewed this hotel in the past and there is very little than I can add other than our stay at the De Havelet was excellent in terms of accommodation service and staff. How this hotel does not command 4 * is beyond me; it truly is first class and he team are a credit to Best Western

    « Perfect!! »

Everything about this hotel is first class. The staff, without exception, are lovely, helpful and pleasant. The room was good, bed huge and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was good and food in both Copenhagen Bar and Wellington Boot was first class. Added bonus was the pool which was great!

    « Another fantastic stay! »

Everything about this hotel is first class. From the warm welcome at reception to the extremely comfortable rooms and the excellent food. We especially enjoyed our meals in the Wellington Boot restaurant. Without exception every member of staff is unfailingly friendly, polite and helpful. We shall be returning soon!

« Character hotel with superb views over the sea »

I am a regular visitor to Guernsey with very few weeks passing by that I don't spend at least a night in St Peter Port and more often than not, at the De Havelet. I have stayed at around ten hotels on Guernsey and now stay at either one of two for different reasons though mostly for variety. The De Havelet scores well here on Trip Adviser and it's easy to see why. What you see in the photographs is what you get, none of those misleading photographs you sometimes get - Yes it is that charming. The hotel is situated just outside the town centre so you're assured of a good nights sleep away from the sounds of bustling St Peter Port. The hotel is however close enough that you can abandon your car (excellent parking at the hotel) and stroll down the hill and possibly take a taxi the short journey back as it can feel rather steep on the return. The plentiful parking is advantageous as parking can sometimes be awkward in town. You are always assured a warm welcome from the De Havelet staff who achieve that perfect mix of professionalism and friendliness which makes it a pleasure to return time after time. The Hotel's Copenhagen bar and restaurant is excellent and appears to have been recently renovated. The bar and restaurant hold their own as standalone facilities unlike many hotels whose often tired restaurant only attracts hotel guest default diners. As a result, both the bar and restaurant are frequented by both locals and hotel guests with a resultant pleasant buzzing atmosphere and a balance achieved where hotel guests are never left feeling like outsiders. There is also a terrace where you can relax and gaze out to sea whilst partaking of a drink - highly recommended. The views across the bay at breakfast are superb although it can be bright so take your sunglasses to breakfast and enjoy the scene!!! The breakfast choice is good and my favourite - The Croque Madam (poached eggs and ham on a toasted muffin with a Hollandaise sauce). There are also many places to dine with varied cuisine within a short walk of the hotel. All the rooms I have stayed in (and I've stayed in a fair few) are immaculate and mostly appear recently decorated and of a good size. There are rooms at ground level so if mobility is a problem you should be OK with access. All in all, a great hotel and I'll almost certainly be back next week!!!!

    « Superb »

I swim at the Hotel de Havelet nearly every day unless I am off island. There is always a a genuine warm "hello" from any staff you see there. The pool and surrounding area is always spotlessly clean as is the changing room. All of these seem tom be regularly inspected during the day. Fresh towels are always available and the sauna and steam rooms are great to relax in after a hard swim. Hotel grounds are very neat and tidy and there is plenty of parking and even a point to charge your electric car if you have one! The views from the hotel are spectacular and it is worth a visit to the hotel just for the views.

« Very attentive staff and a most comfortable hotel »

From the moment we arrived the staff were very attentive, had a most pleasant demeanour and were helpful at all times. Our room was well appointed and comfortable and the food in both the Wellington Boot Restaurant and the Copenhagen Grill was very good.

    5
« great staff and lovely room »

Throughout our stay here the staff we invariably friendly, courteous, helpful and generally a pleasure to be with. This made our stay at this lovely hotel, with excellent views over the harbour and town, all the more memorable

« Customer service second to none at this hotel. »

This was our seventh visit to Guernsey in five years - and all because of the Hotel de Havelet! We first stayed here for a special birthday five years ago and have not wanted to go anywhere else ever since! Customer service here is second to none. Gennaro, Sandis, Attila, Kati and all the staff make this a very special place to stay. I have to follow a complicated FODMAP diet but nothing is too much trouble, from providing special milk to letting me mix and match the menu however strange it may seem! Any problems are dealt with immediately, when the door of our room was not closing properly Sandis (Asst Manager) turned his hand to carpentry and fixed it while we were having dinner. Spa facilities are great with a lovely pool and jacuzzi, perfect for relaxing. We always stay in the same room with a small balcony and just about a sea view. The view from the Wellington Boot restaurant, however, is spectacular looking down on the harbour and Castle Cornet. This is a lovely hotel but it is the staff who make it an amazing one, meaning our eighth visit is already provisionally booked for later in the year.

    « Very pleasant hotel »

Pecfect to rest and enjoy Guernsey city and landscape. The rooms are comfortable, the pool is great. It's located on the slope of a hill which gives a nice view on the see. In Guersey city, but not so close to the centre, when you haven't rent a car. But it hasn't been a problem for us, especially when going downslope (going up is a bit more an issue, but there is a free bus shuttle))

    « The best »

My son and i thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I actually cannot think of any negatives. Our twin bedded room was quite spacious. If i had been on my own i possibly would have had a job getting my case into the room as it was up a Winding staircase but my son carried my case for me. The swimming pool Was superb. There was a jacuzzi and two saunas. We used it every day and sometimes we were the only people in the pool. Breakfast was very varied and after we saw the set menu in the wellington restaurant we ate there every evening. Very good food. Well done chef! There was a complimentary coach tour around the island which we took and also free transport down to st peter port which we also used which saved us searching for a parking space in the town. I cannot fault this hotel and would definitely book there again. The only other thing thing i would say is that the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful

    « Great stay »

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Guernsey and the hotel contributed significantly to that enjoyment. The staff are very helpful, the views are lovely and the food is very good. The spa and swimming pool are excellent and the rooms very comfortable.

    « Fabulous! »

Fabulous hotel in a beautiful setting. Staff were courteous and professional, amenities were of a high standard! Would recommend to anyone travelling to Guernsey. Close proximity to the town centre although very hilly. Wonderful stay.

« Honeymoon in Guernsey staying »

Absolutely amazing. Staff very attentive both in the hotel and the restaurant. On arrival, warmly greeted and shown to room. Champagne and congratulations card for our wedding. Beautiful swan display with towels and rose petals. Extremely clean throughout the hotel. Turn down service in an evening, replenishing refreshments etc and personal touches to bedding/ nightwear. Superb food and excellent choice from menu at breakfast and dinner. Staff took the time to chat with you at each meal. Lovely swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

    5
    « Fantastic Stay »

Without doubt the best attentive staff ever, check in was welcoming and informative with great service in the restaurant. Loved the fact relatively small personal hotel but with big hotel facilities. Loved the pool/spa and two on site restaurants. Food first class with a great view of harbour and Herne. Decor is lovely and room well furnished immaculately clean. Enjoyed the complimentary tea tray. Convenient for the town, short steep hill on way back though. Our first trip to Guernsey, don't think we could have chosen a better hotel, hope to be back one day.

    « Modern service - Classic style »

My family and I just love staying at this hotel and our recent stay was just as good as all those before it. The staff are wonderful - attentive but not "in your face" and will go out of their way to help you. We look forward to our next visit

    « Lovely visit. »

This was our first visit to this lovely hotel. We were with friends who have visited many times before. We were greeted warmly by the reception staff and Kati was particularly welcoming along with her Australian trainee whose name escapes me. Our room was lovely as was the bathroom. Very clean with beautiful towels. The hotel is very traditional which was nice. We spent each evening after dinner in the lounge with a lovely open fire. We were on half board and the food was excellent. I am a coeliac and need gluten free food which was provided for me. Atilla the restaurant manager spoke to me before each meal advising what was suitable he was very discreet. Once the restaurant staff knew I was coeliac I didn't have to mention it again. This was particularly good as they were mainly new trainees for the coming season. Unfortunately the weather was poor which meant we didn't see the island at it's best but we still thoroughly enjoyed it and would go again. I must also mention Genaro the hotel manager who was also very friendly. All in all a great experience.

    « The Perfect Hotel »

This hotel has 3 stars, can't understand why it has not received 5! Great location with views of the harbour and Herm Island. Only 10 mins walk from the centre of St Peters Port. Rooms are very comfortable and quiet with good space. Bathroom is modern with all the extras and has a great shower. Everything is spotlessly clean and much attention to detail has been applied. Staff are very helpful and polite, there is nothing they won't try and help with. The large pool and spa were very welcome, again all very clean and looked after. Lastly, there is no need as is usual to go out for dinner, the two restaurants at the hotel are fantastic. Wide variety of menu with daily set menus too catering for all tastes. Restaurant staff again are extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing, hot food cooked to order and a huge buffet. All in all, we can't recommend it enough and look forward to staying again.

« No complaints - old fashioned, but well-staffed hotel »

A return visit here for a business trip. Like the place - it's rather old-school, but in a good way (which is rather like Guernsey as a whole I suppose). Lots of staff - almost queuing up to serve you at meals - but that's not bad thing. The pool is simple to use and, like the hotel as a whole, does what it needs to do efficiently and to reasonable standards. All staff are friendly and helpful

    « It's the little things ... »

There is something rather special when staying in a newly refurbished room, tastefully done with understated elegance. I particularly loved the velvet ostrich curtains and my companion enjoyed being able to operate the tap with his toe in the beautiful Villeroy & Boch suite. The new room apart, it was the little things which made this stay exceptional. The fresh fruit in the room when we arrived. The generous and continuing replenishment of teabags in the room when we ran out on the first day. The personal delivery of our room key at the end of the evening when we returned to the bar. The hotel is a beautifully appointed overlooking St Peter Port with amazing views of Castle Cornet and across the sea to Herm. A table in the window for breakfast is recommended as is the breakfast itself. Gennaro runs a tight ship, the staff are smart and professional, service is crisp. An indoor swimming pool, affording views to the garden, with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room eases the muscles following the steep climb up the hill. A drawing room with a crackling fire provides a cosy haven. The wi-fi was free, secure and worked well. The bar, even in the low season, provided a convivial atmosphere and was well used by locals. A great place to stay and only 10 minutes to the airport, we shall return.

    5
    « Highly enjoyable stay »

What a great team of staff - we were met at all times with quiet, friendly, professionalism. The hotel is beautifully old fashioned - with very pleasing décor. Please note no lift. We were on the third floor - it was a lovely quiet room. No view from room but good value for £150 for two nights. There is a gorgeous pool- with Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which we used both mornings about 9.30am and were the only ones there! The Copenhagen restaurant/bar has a more modern style - I loved it , and is equally pleasing to the eye. Good g&ts, and we were able to sit outside on the Terrace to look down on the Castle in the Port. We were given blankets and had the offer of the outside fire being lit.

« Excellent in Every Way!! »

We first visited Hotel De Havelet in 2010, and have visited every Spring since. When visiting Guernsey we would not choose to stay anywhere else as nowhere could possibly be better. What makes the hotel so special is the staffing team. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely room - thank you Kati. The food and service in both restaurants was excellent - thank you Attila and team. What more could anyone want? This year we stayed with friends, who had not visited Guernsey before. Everyone was so attentive catering for my friend's coeliac diet. Again, nothing was too much trouble and Attila and Ana discretely discussed the menu with her every evening. Thank you, Gennaro, for ensuring that the hotel continues to live up to and surpass our expectations. See you next year.

    5
    « Excellent stay »

The room was excellent, the staff couldn't have been more friendly and the spa and pool were very welcome during our stay. We ate 3 times in the Copenhagen restaurant (one lunch and two dinners) and on all occasions the service was very good and the food excellent. Normally we avoid hotel restaurants, but these two restaurants are in a separate building and appear to be highly rated elsewhere, and rightly so.

    5
    « Helping Havelet »

We returned for the fourth consecutive year and were delighted to find that the hotel had maintained their very high standards under their management. The breakfasts were again superb with a wide choice of fruit, cereals, nuts, seeds, cooked, very fresh rolls and very fresh Danish pastries. The staff will freshly cook any breakfast for you. We were in a standard room this time, but we couldn't see any difference to a deluxe room. The chambermaid tidied up and our room was kept scrupulously clean. I've mentioned the pool before and this was a welcome place for an early morning swim. The hotel is in pleasant grounds and you really need a car to stay there, however car parking at the hotel and in Guernsey is both plentiful and free. You can tell that the staff are there to help and they all go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. We noted that nothing was too much trouble for them. Look at the photos and judge for yourself if our rating is fair? I'll finish by thanking the management and staff for caring so well for their guests. This is the easiest 5* I have given, and we could find no faults. Thank you so much.

    5
    « Excellent stay »

A cosy, comfortable, clean hotel with very friendly staff and management. Gennaro and his team worked extremely well together and really made us feel at home.We had excellent food and service in their Copenhagan and Wellington Boot restuarants. There is a well designed pool and sauna area, in a picturesque setting. And we look forward to staying there again soon.

« Lovely place to stay »

Lovely place to stay - rooms were immaculate, very comfortable and spacious with good facilities. Staff were exceptional and went out their way to assist. Restaurant facilities were exceptional as well both in terms of staff, food and atmosphere.

    « Weekend break »

The staff are very helpful and friendly. This includes the staff in the Copenhagen and Wellington restaurants. I had a single room and it had everything I needed. The walk up to the hotel is a little steep, but on the advice of reception staff, I used a different route. You still walk up the hill but it is a more gradual incline. Ten minutes walk from town makes it an ideal place to stay.

    5
    « Excellent hotel, 100% recommened »

It is always a joy to stay here, the Staff and Management could not be more friendly and helpful if they tried. The restaurant has a good menu with the food well prepared, Busy even on a Sunday evening with local people and recommended by our local connections. The view from the breakfast room on a sunny morning is a joy to wake up to. Will recommend to all my friends if 5hey visit Guernsey

    5
    « A great break »

We spent a week here for my birthday. It turned out to be an excellent week. From our arrival we were treated as valued guests. On check in the assistant manager and the receptionist insisted on unloading our car and when we needed to change rooms, they again moved all our luggage. All the staff made us feel very welcome and used our name every time they saw us. The room was well maintained and housekeeping ensured that it was kept spotlessly clean. The turn down service ensured we were kept topped up with water, biscuits etc. The restaurant has brilliant views over St Peter Port harbour and Castle Cornet. The service was again excellent with dishes being removed from the table as soon as we had finished with them, coffee being refreshed without being asked.

    « A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS!! »

We arrived at the hotel de Havelet on Christmas eve and went to reception to collect our room key the staff at reception were all very nice and welcoming and remained the same throughout our eleven night stay we had room 32 which I had requested it is at the top of the original old Georgian building and very nice if your ok with stairs.the room is nicely decorated and has a big comfy bed and the bathroom is great with bath and shower. We ate mainly in the wellington boot restaurant which is upstairs all meals breakfast and dinner were of a high standard and very enjoyable we also ate a few times in the down stairs Copenhagen bar and grill and without exception both venues are very good as are all staff who work as a team and if you would request maybe to a alter something be it a drink or food they will do this for you if it's possible.the nice part also if you need help in anyway no matter who you speak with you never get that's not my department! If that person can't help they will find someone who can and that's the thing Gennaro the general manager and his team work as a team so the guest has the best experience. Our christmas package was well thought out and all aspects great. The hotel is up a relatively steep hill but we did walk up down a number of times and had know problem and we are not the fittest also been a bit higher up you have some wonderful views of the bay.if you want a change there is a couple of nice pubs within a short walk one has live Irish music some nights.st peters port is very nice shops, bars, restaurants also this is were you can get a bus to anywhere on the island. So to summarise we had a lovely christmas new year celebrations at this hotel the main Georgian house is lovely and in the lounge a nice log fire was lit at about 7.30 each morning the christmas decorations a lot been hand made by a member of staff gave the hotel a very good festive feel and made for a very homely look and that's it yes it is a hotel but you feel at home and as with the staff it felt like it's one big happy family. I can only say that we would highly recommend it and ten out of ten to Gennaro and all his team see you all again soon are very best wishes Simon & Barbara PS.the hotel at times will provide a courtesy bus to st peters port

    « great value »

For my wife's birthday in the Copenhagen bar & grill 10 of us enjoyed a lovely evening meal. the popular order was beef filet & surf [filet and lobster tail].with fish and chips second favorite , along side curry and lobster linguini. We live in guernsey and have enjoyed meals at the copenhagen grill for a number of years. The service is always very good and attentive nothing is to much trouble for the staff.

    « Valentines Visit »

It is a steep climb up to the hotel when walking back from "town" but worth it. We enjoyed our few days at De Havelet. Room was very comfortable and well serviced. The breakfasts were well above average and the evening meals we took at the hotel were a pleasure. We will be back if in St Peter Port again.

    5
    « Always delivers »

I have stayed here several times over the last few months. The staff really take care to provide professional friendly service. The hotel has all facilities I would want, a great bar and restaurant which are a joy to relax in.

    5
« Best Small Hotel I have visited! »

The hotel is absolutely lovely with great views across the Castle and the port area. The staff are so friendly, the rooms are immaculate and the breakfast is better than you will see any many 5 star hotels. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the whole experience was so enjoyable for myself and my wife. I would stay every time I visit Guernsey.

    5
    « Just very good »

We have just checked out after a three day stay at the Hotel De Havelet and I have to say that it is a super little hotel. We have had a lovely, relaxing time. The room was comfortable, the setting is picturesque and the staff are tremendously pleasant, polite and happy. Nothing is too much for them. Even the guests were happy and pleasant! The Copenhagen Restaurant is very good and the hotel is just a short walk into town. We've had a lovely stay and would recommend this hotel. We will certainly come back.

    5
    « Simply Marvellous »

After a wonderful stay for our 40th wedding anniversary, we returned for our 41st - what a great decision. Excellent service, great staff, wonderful room. Breakfast always superb with great views across Castle Cornet to Herm. Excellent pool and steam room (personally would have preferred a hotter sauna, however, my wife liked the temperature). Most nights we ate at the excellent Copenhagen Restaurant (see separate review) and enjoyed the glorious cocktails. We've been to Guernsey many times and this hotel stands head and shoulders above all the others. Great food, excellent facilities and 1st class staff. Simply Marvellous.

    « Work? More like a holiday! »

Fantastic location. Quiet but not far into town for work. Room excellent 5*. Even better if you are lucky enough to get a view. Friendly staff. Ate in bar in the evenings and food was great. Breakfast in restaurant superb. Highly recommend!

    « Amazing Staycation »

Everything was perfect from beginning till the last end. Staff is always helpful, smiling and spreading positivity. The room was fantastic, with he comfy bed, spacious, very clean and with a balcony to the garden. We also had an Afternoon tea, enjoyed Health suit facilities and had a delicious food at Copenhagen. We woke up happy and became more happy after Breakfast at Wellington Boot. Interesting and tasty Menu, great service. It was perfect stay and higly recommended to everybody.

    « Amazing Hotel »

« Birthday weekend break in late January »

Best Western Hotel De Havelet made my partner feel that he had had his best birthday ever. Our room was extremely comfortable and clean. The attention to detail was superb - the housekeepers went to extra lengths to ensure we had fresh milk for our tea - the cocktail bar staff created a cake with a candle and even came to sing Happy Birthday in the lounge in front of the roaring fire - the receptionists were all friendly without being intrusive. Truly one of the most memorable and best hotel stays I have ever had. That's before I even tell you how good the cocktails and the food were...

    5
    « Superb »

2 night stay, everything was superb. Room was spacious and everything immaculate, loved the cafetiere for my morning coffee. Staff were extremely helpful and breakfast was excellent with a good choice. We didn't use the bar or restaurant in the evening so can't comment on them. Fantastic location, 15 minute walk to the town centre. When we return we will definitely book here again. Great value

    5
« Clean and friendly hotel »

Staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly giving it a relaxed atmosphere. They provided a welcoming and personal touch which is rare in a larger hotel. The room was clean and fresh and was stocked with a good variety of teas and coffee, It was great to have a complimentary upgrade. Thank-you. Food in the Copenhagen bar was very good with a reasonably priced menu, with all the staff being attentive to your requirements. The pool was small but provided a pleasant leisure area.

    « Lovely Hotel »

Recently stayed for 3 nights. Room, staff, restaurant, swimming pool etc all faultless. The only minor downside is that we had to walk through a covered walkway area to get from the main hotel building to the room. However room was lovely and we were freely supplied with a large number of toiletries and refreshments.

    5
« A lovely weekend break in an an excellent hotel »

Our first visit to Guernsey and our first stay in this hotel. Just a long weekend out of season. We found the hotel to be excellent and all the staff were superb. The Hotel being a converted old house is quite quaint with some interesting features and fittings. Nicely decorated, being well looked and our room was very good. Breakfast and dinner in the adjacent restaurant were also excellent. However what makes this hotel special are the staff. They we are all to a person friendly, attentive and customer focused. The only downside is the parking is tight and would be a problem in high season plus you need to be fit to make the climb back to the hotel from the Town! But taxis are readily available.

    5
    « Cleanest place I know »

I swim at the hotel almost every day and therefore can judge cleanliness on a long term basis. Everything is spotlessly clean and the staff are so friendly and so committed to the hotel and its guests. I have travelled the world and never experienced such friendly hotel staff.

From the welcome right through to checkout we received excellent and friendly service. All staff we came in contact with gave the impression of caring how we were and that everything we needed would and could be provided. Very comfortable room above the swimming pool and almost no noise from other rooms. Bed large and very very comfortable, sleep was no problem. Breakfast offered all dishes as normal and very pleasing to see that our cooked breakfast was cooked fresh rather than serving yourself from trays etc. Tastiest fried bread for quite a while! We ate in the bar/restaurant, the menu choice was varied and should please most palates, freshly cooked and well presented. Hotel situated up a steep hill, but with excellent views looking towards Herm/Sark. No problem in wanting to stay again!

    « Lovely upgrade »

I was upgraded to the newly refurbished rooms above the inner courtyard/swimming pool and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the refurbishment. the rooms are modern and stylish but cosy and comfortable at the same time. Worth the extra cost.

    « Wonderful Haven »

Have stayed several times and on each visit all the Hotel staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful and always extremely professional. The rooms are a delight and very comfortable matched only by the views across to Castle Cornet. Whichever restaurant you choose, both the service and the food has been outstanding making each stay so very enjoyable. When we return to Guernsey, this will always be our hotel of choice.

« Fabulous Room and more! »

I have only just come back from this lovely hotel. I was there on business but the service, room and everything else was first class and made it a pleasure. Check-in was very easy with an extremely friendly member of staff who was not only there in the evening but also the next morning when I left for check out. My room was very well appointed and seems to be almost brand-new! The bed was great along with some great little touches like a small bowl of fruit, selection of teas and coffee and hot chocolate and even after-dinner chocolate mints, coke, lemonade as well as some lovely toiletries in a fantastic bathroom. I slept like a log and had breakfast delivered to the room bang on time. Absolutely delicious and a great start to the day. I didn't get a chance to use the pool but it looks excellent and my colleague who did use it agreed Next time I'm on the island I know where I'm staying!

« Wonderful stay, compelled to review »

Hotel De Havelet was the perfect stay for a few quiet days away with work. Situated in a quiet spot slightly away from the town centre, the hotel perpetuates a friendly, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The room (14) was spacious, light and airy with all the usual facilities. The pool, sauna and steam room were an added bonus, clean, well maintained and only shared by two other guests during my three night stay. The breakfast menu is well organised and room service quick and efficient even during busy dinner times. I would recommend De Havelet to anyone visitng Guernsey, though the hotel may be more suitable for older couples or solo travellers enjoying a quieter time away. The layout and design of the hotel certainly lend it a unique charm and character. I myself am hoping I can return on business again sometime soon and hopefully during the summer!

« Yet again the tops »

This must be my third review of Hotel De Havelet. The perfect place for whatever reason you are visiting Guernsey. Accommodation, staff, food, all perfect. We have stayed there on four occasions in the past 12 months and have never been disappointed.

    « xmas break »

Another lovely xmas break spent at the De Havelet Hotel. Guernsey. The staff were amazing, helpful and lots of smiley faces. Lots of good food and the hotel have a great Guernsey bean Jar recipe!! Flights and sailings are obviously reliant on the weather but well worth the visit. The Copenhagen bar and restaurant is popular with the local population. The hotel is set on a fairly steep hill, as is most of St. Peter Port. A car is useful to see the island but the hotel has a well planned itinery at xmas and if needed, provides some transport to town and back.

    « Happy New Year 2018 »

What a great welcome to a New Year! A great evening, fab meal (thank you Chef), good company, attentive and friendly staff and dancing the old year out, then a wind down in a comfortable and historic lounge. We love it and am sure will see you again soon!

« Another superb stay at De Havelet »

We visit Guernsey annually and over the last 15 years have always stayed at this hotel. Management of this hotel cannot be faulted and is undoubtedly the best of all the many hotels we stay in, even the higher star rated the. The management and staff are superb, always welcoming, friendly and helpful. Both restaurants are excellent with varied menus and the views over St Peter Port Harbour from the Wellington Boot and terrace are wonderful. Always a pleasure to stay and look forward to returning. A real home from home and highly recommend.

    « Superb! »

Just got back after a couple of night's stay. Needed to go out for business and decided to stay on for a day or two. Booked this hotel on the strength of Trip Advisor reviews and the indoor pool. Neither let me down. I can see why the hotel gets the comments. The staff are an absolute credit - from the guys at reception to all the staff at breakfast and in both restaurants. They make you feel so welcome and nothing too much trouble. The food was so good. We only ate in the Copenhagen as the atmosphere was so lovely. Book if you go because it got busy both nights we were there and Saturday lunch was packed also. The room was impeccably clean with all you could want. I had the pool. Steam room, sauna and jacuzzi all to myself one morning! Changing room with hairdryer, Shower and lots of towels. I made very good use of this as arrived early before my room was ready. Can't fault this hotel at all. Set on a steep hill so going down fine but make use of the little shuttle bus to come back up if you struggle with walking up hills. There's also a large car park. We met loads of lovely people that return here year after year and I can see why.

« Good hotel but up a very steep hill »

We booked this hotel because of the minibus that was supposed to be available. Unfortunately when we checked in, a sign indicated that it was unavailable for our entire week stay. Because of the weather and health issues, we ended up taking a lot more taxis than we wanted to. The room was fine although quite warm. The swimming pool was amazing. Breakfast was good but not much variation.

    « Delightful de Havelet »

This was our fifth Christmas break at this hotel. What to say??? Standards remain supreme, as does the welcome upon arrival. In the past I have stayed on occasions where my business has led me to Guernsey. This hotel has the consummate facility whereby it a accommodates all classes of traveller. On this occasion the Christmas programme...and menu!!....arranged by the hotel staff, was , as usual, absolutely fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble, the staff are just so friendly.i could wax lyrical for some time but....WELL DONE de Havelet

    « FAB U LOUS! »

We love it here-have stayed three times now and not one single complaint. The most kind, considerate, helpful, caring & happy/pleasant staff that we have experienced anywhere (& believe me, we are well travelled!) make this such a lovely place to stay. Our son & his family live in Guernsey so over the years we have 'tried' many and keep returning here-faultless! Room 27 (the only one apparently with a balcony!) must be our favourite so far although we said that after the first and second rooms we had! Superb views of Castle Cornet etc (& we were very fortunate to be blessed with extremely mild December weather) made for a 'extra special' pre Christmas break to visit family ?? FIRST CLASS - 100% recommend this hotel-second to none. ?

« A perfect stay in this lovely hotel »

We stayed for four nights in a suite room. It was clean, spacious with a large comfortable bed, sofa and seating area, a modern bathroom with walk in shower and a bath, and even your own private entrance which overlooks a patio area which must be amazing in the summer months. We could not find fault with one single aspect of our stay and this is without doubt due to the wonderful staff. Every single member of the team is a credit to the hotel - always smiling and providing stunning customer service. We ate two nights in the Copenhagen restaurant and the food was really good. Other reviewers are right in referencing the steep bank down to the town centre but it is literally only a 4 minute walk down the bank to the harbour and then a further 8 minutes before you hit the main shopping area - a lovely walk. Thank you all for a wonderful stay. Simply amazing!

    « Outstanding staff »

Planned one night stay but due to weather our flight got cancelled and ended up staying two nights. Loved the drawing room with fireplace where you can relax, read, have cup of tea. Staff really go the extra mile with that's unheard of in many hotels. They found us a table in a fully booked with Xmas parties restaurants and when restaurant was closed and we were hungry they rang room to offer they can make us a sandwich. Truly amazing. Hotel is pretty and traditional. Rooms are spacious with good tea selection. 10 mins stroll down to the town centre. Breakfast average. Not much hot selection for someone who is not keen on eggs though. Overall blown away by this hotel and will stay there again if come back in summer. Keep up the good work, guys!

    « Wonderful hotel... »

Just back from another great stay at the Hotel de Havelet. It's a great hotel, not least because of the staff, who go out of their way to be helpful and make guests feel at home. This was our first time eating in the refurbished Copenhagen Bar and Grill - very much looking forward to the next time! Eating out in St Peter Port at this time of year can be tricky because everywhere seems to be full with office parties. There were several going on the night we ate at the hotel, but so well managed that it wasn't at all disruptive. Great hotel, great staff - staying here is a wonderful experience.

    « Girls weekend »

Three friends and I spent one night here. all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We started with a champagne afternoon tea which was fabulous. Sat by a roaring log fire in the lounge was lovely. We could have used the health suite but decided to hit the shops instead. Dinner in the Wellington Boot restaurant was superb with good choices. Our rooms were very clean and had little extra touches like chocolates. Breakfast was excellent with great choices. I would recommend this hotel.

« Excellent & Great value for money hotel in Guernsey »

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel in Dec 2017 and the accommodation was very comfortable, room was clean and welcoming. The staff are professional, friendly and helpful. The reception staff Kim was excellent. The breakfast had a good range of cold and hot food options. The restaurant was very good for a good meal and the atmosphere was lively. The facilities in this hotel are really good and I will be staying there again next week.

    « Great Staff »

I visited the Isle of Guernsey recently and was very pleased with the accommodations Hotel De Havelet. The staff, both on the front desk and in the dining room, understood what good customer service means. The property is a lovely old house with modern facilities. It is about a 15 minute walk into St. Peter Port.

Rooms are clean tidy and comfortable, leisure area is clean and relaxing. Gennaro and his team always make my trips memorable, so well done to all the staff. Look forward to my next visit. By the way - the hill...its a nice walk up from the front, i enjoy!!

« The perfect place to stay on a beautiful island. »

Really can't say enough good things about this beautiful property! A gorgeous, old fashioned, "proper" hotel of the kind that are becoming fewer and fewer these days. Quiet setting on a tranquil hill, but only minutes from St Peter Port town centre. Eminently walkable but free shuttle bus service also available. Picturesque views out to sea from the front terrace. Large, comfortable, quiet room with fluffy pillows and big cozy bed. Generous selection of teas, coffees, biscuits, etc. Very tasty and well priced room service menu delivered by friendly staff (try the burger!). Lovely drawing room with plush couches, magazines, computer (handy for printing boarding passes) etc. And finally, an indoor pool with jacuzzi and steam room! On the whole, a wonderful relaxing experience that made me wish I could stay another night. I'll definitely be back! Special thanks to the gentleman on reception for all his assistance, and the driver of the bus to town for his interesting insights into the history of the island, and directions to the nearest ATM! Guernsey is a wonderful place to visit, and this is the place to base yourself. You won't regret it.

    « Outstanding once again »

A Re Visit to the BW Hotel De Havelet and nothing changes, Superb hotel on the outskirts of St Peter Port, we are greeted as a returning friend and not just a guest. The rooms are larger than average, spotlessly clean and some have front facing rooms which look towards the harbour area and castle. Book a room in the courtyard area and you are nearer to the pool and sauna facilities. Inside is a lounge with open fire, a drawing room used for meetings and outside gardens are well maintained. 2 Restaurants, Copenhagen grill room and the excellent Wellington Boot again with superb views down to the waterfront. The service here is outstanding from all members of staff and it's a place where nothing is to much trouble. Have done a winter break and are already booked for spring of next year that's how good this place is.

« Comfy, Clean, Friendly, overall a lovely place to stay »

At first I thought we'd have trouble find the hotel as we'd hired a car. Our map - of the old fashioned paper kind - was easy to follow and we found the place first time. Plenty of parking. Smiley welcome. Upgraded to a superior room. Nice size and look liked it had been revamped within the past few months. Decent wardrobe and drawer space. VERY nice bathroom. The whole hotel was elegantly decorated and during our weekend, the Xmas decorations were put up. A real fire in the lounge, a very festive feel. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We would definately stay here again. Particularly as we managed to leave some bits in the room, they were found and when we called, they had them packed up to be sent on the way ASAP - trusting us to send them a cheque for the cost when the package arrived. Now that is what I call service - above & beyond.

« Great Hotel, Great Views »

This is a lovely hotel with great staff. The views from the restaurant are fantastic which is lovely when tucking into brekkie.......The rooms are clean and spacious and the ability to have either a bath or shower which I like.

    4
    « Lovely views »

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our room was very well appointed and the bathroom very large and very brightly lit. The views are stunning looking out over the bay and it would be beautiful in summer. The price of this view is a very, very steep climb to get to the hotel which we did with two suitcases not realising how high up it was. The hotel has a shuttle bus but this only runs during the day so is not available if you want to eat out in town in the evening. A taxi will cost you £6.50 if you don't want to walk back. Lovely hotel but the hill would put me off returning here which is a shame.

« An unheralded gem - very impressive »

Stayed in Guernsey for the first time in around six years and this was the hotel that seemed the best value through TA - not too far from the harbour area but sufficiently upmarket (3 Star) to be luxurious without being ruinously expensive. Greeted on arrival by friendly receptionist and shown to my room. Room was very spacious and well enough appointed for a 3 Star hotel. Beds comfortable and free turndown service offered. While the layout is clearly 80s/90s (manual keys) this is actually something I prefer having had goodness only knows how many ?voided' keycards. The rooms had clearly been recently decorated and looked good. Shower powerful and temperature good. In terms of the restaurant (The Copenhagen Bar) this was really impressive - good and extensive menu which was reasonably priced and food was always very well prepared even at busy tunes, with service from the maitre d' and all staff uniformly excellent. Arguably the only downside was the steep hill down to the Harbour area but this is a function of the hotel location and hardly something the hotel can affect or which is unique to them!! In summary, very good accommodation and would thoroughly recommend

« Guest care and comfort is a priority - Great stay »

The hotel is lovely clean ,comfortable , well appointed , rooms spacious, well equipped, a bowl of complementary fresh fruit and drinks sat on the table of the room simply superb. Connected to the Hotel is the Copenhagen Restaurant , wide range great food, superb quality and good value. What makes this marriage of hotel and restaurant special is the care the staff deliver to their guests. Clearly the ethos is driven throughout the establishment. I arrived late at the hotel a combination of delayed flight and road closure. New to the hotel and seeing that i was heading in the wrong direction the Restaurant manager came out to assist and with a one of his team offered to carry my bags to reception.Despite the official time of the restaurant being closed 10 minute after my arrival they remained open so I could have dinner. And more, it was not a case of then being rushed , the manager made is very clear I could relax ,time was not a problem. Breakfast is in the Copenhagen restaurant and I enjoyed a stunning view . The choice of breakfast was good and plentiful. Service level a the hotel is outstanding. Professional , courteous and caring. My only problem with the Best Western Hotel De Havelet is the stay was far to short.

    « Excellent! »

I have said it before and i will keep on saying it this is an excellent, friendly hotel. I swim at the hotel nearly every day and can therefore be in a position to judge the consistent cleanliness of the hotel and also their very friendly approach to guests. It starts with parking the car. The outside areas and public areas are always spotlessly clean. I often arrive just before 7am in the morning and witness staff tidying up or doing inspections. I also approach the swimming pool via the rear steps which is an area not visisted by many guests but this too is always kept very clean. The changing rooms, showers, area around the pool and the pool itself are always spotlessly clean. With a good supply of towels and the sauna and steam room i love coming to the Hotel de Havelet. I am as serious swimmer and although the pool is not large it is the cleanliness and staff that keep me coming back. i have eaten in the hotels restaurants and they are very good serving excellent food combined with excellent service. What you get at the Hotel de Havelet is a consistently clean hotel whose staff are focused on providing a great experience for their guests. A lot of people comment on the steep hill up to the hotel. Without that then there would not be the spectacular views plus the hotel lays on a dedicated bus service into St peter Port and back.

    « Short business trip »

Spent three nights here in November. Lovely hotel: clean, comfortable, friendly staff. Good location; 5 minutes walk (easier going down the steep hill than coming back!) from the sea and 10 from the High Street. No lift which may cause problems for some though only 3 floors (I think). Has an indoor pool which I unfortunately never got to. Would definitely stay here again. I don't normally eat in hotels but did so on this occasion in the Copenhagen bar & grill - brilliant! Great beer; great food and great service. Highly recommended

A most pleasant and relaxing birthday break. Hotel de Havelot is a very well managed establishment. This is reflected in the friendly, efficient staff. The hotel's management are always visible and available to help. Hotel de Havelot is set in an attractive Georgian building with...nice grounds

« 4-day Leisure Break to Guernsey - (Hotel de Havelet) »

This hotel is one of the best hotels on the island, having worked on the island, staying at various hotels over the years, the de Havelet was the chosen one for our leisure breaks. The hotel facilities are excellent, the cleanliness stands out, the staff are extremely professional and friendly, always engaging and helpful. The bar is very modern with numerous beers and wines on offer, the restaurant serves up excellent meals, the presentation is a credit to the kitchen staff, and the delivery by the waiting staff is equally professional. To sum-it-up, this hotel amazes us that it only a 3-star hotel, it might only be 3-star, but it certainly delivers 5-star service.

    « Tennerfest »

Back again from 19 to 26 October. We, my wife and I were visiting our youngest son and family. Four grandsons with partners and 5 great grandchildren. This is an excellent hotel for this as normally except for weekends we can only catch up with family in the evenings. We had an upgraded room with fruit replaced daily plus a couple of small bottles of wine. The service in the hotel and restaurants is some of the best we have experienced, nothing is too much trouble. There is an excellent indoor swimming pool with hot tub, sauna and steam room plus comfortable loungers where you can read the daily papers. It was Tennerfest month and 2/3 course meals were available from £15 in most of the restaurants on the island. It started about 10 years ago when it was a tenner but inflation catches up, still good value for money. The breakfasts are excellent, plenty of choice with self service buffett and waiter served mains. Plus good views of Castle Cornet and the harbour. All in all a very enjoyable experience and a very reasonable price.

    « Family weekend break »

We stayed at the De Havelet for a long weekend last weekend. We found the hotel and the staff to be of a very high standard. The rooms were brilliant, clean and different in style. Plenty of room and the room service was second to none. The staff were probably the biggest asset. Nothing was too much trouble and we unfortunately mithered them a little with things like more milk for the tea service in the room, bag storage when we left and local directions for places to visit - not once did they refuse to assist us. They were absolutely excellent and we would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Albeit we were B&B only, we found the food to be plentiful and cooked to a very high standard. The view from the dining room across the harbour was magnificent. We would definitely return to the hotel and would rate it one of the best we have stayed in for its value for money. Well done management and staff and a BIG thank you, best wishes, Peter and Nicola Rigby.

    « The Best »

Excellent hotel and have stayed several times at different times of the year. A welcoming hotel with friendly attentive staff at all levels, who pride themselves on their level of service to guests at the hotel and the two restaurants. Rooms are well appointed, fresh and pleasant with free Wi-Fi and those little touches that make the difference. The team works hard to please and they succeed in spades.

    5
« Fabulous service, great team of staff »

We stayed for three nights and were made to feel utterly welcome by the staff throughout the hotel. The room was comfortable with good sized bed and thankfully firm! The bar great fun and a good range of drinks and food. The bar snacks excellent- try the bitter and porter roasted nuts and the pork ( beautiful pieces of slow roasted meat in honey and sesame) . Nothing was too much trouble for the team in the hotel. A great place to stay with a short walk into the town- a little steep up the hill back to the hotel but bracing ! We will definitely stay again!

« A very pleasant stay in a quiet corner of St Peter Port »

If you're looking for a quiet hotel in easy reach of the shops, bars and restaurants of St Peter Port, you could do much worse than to visit the Hotel De Havelet. As a Best Western Diamond member I booked a single room at short notice for £70. After driving through the windy streets to the hotel and parking in their free car park I was delighted to hear my room had been upgraded. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room was relatively modern, clean, and had all the amenities required (including an empty fridge to store your own drinks/snacks). There was complimentary bottled water, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits. I didn't connect to it, but I understand there's also free wifi. With the plethora of local restaurants I didn't have cause to eat at the hotel, but the Copenhagen Bar & Grill is excellent (having eaten there previously) and the Wellington Boot is also well regarded. I would be happy to recommend this hotel.

    « Good short break. »

Just had a short break to Guernsey and stayed at The Hotel De Havelet. As are most things in St. Peter Port it is up a big hill from the town centre but they do provide a courtesy mini bus with a very friendly driver originally from Seattle, USA. We had breakfasts and 1 lunch and 1 dinner at the hotel. The breakfasts were magnificent, could not ask for more choice or better quality. The lunch and dinner meals and service were excellent. We stayed in the junior suite which was a lovely room and everything you would expect to be provided was provided. The bathroom had a bath and separate walk-in shower nice towels and soaps, etc. All the staff were very friendly and helpful so altogether a good short break. One word of warning regarding this room - it is a very warm room because it would appear to be next to hot pipes just outside the door so in summer I think you would need the air con. unit on permanently. We will definitely use the hotel again but not in the suite.

« Visit twice a year to this lovely hotel »

Just a friendly welcoming place to stay lovely indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, great food and oh such lovely staff looking after you. We stayed for 4 nights in May and 3 nights in October. « Superb Hotel »

Stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel operates to a very high standard and is completely customer focused. Most hotels we have stayed at have decent service and there is always one member of staff that turns out to be outstanding and you would like to nominate them as employee of the week or whatever. What makes Hotel De Havelet special is that every member of staff should be nominated for an award. Without exception everyone we dealt with from reception, breakfast service and the Copenhagen Restaurant were an absolute delight.

    « Brilliant Hotel »

The Havelet Hotel has excellent staff, great quality food and drink and wonderful views. There is a friendly atmosphere throughout the hotel and everybody is helpful and efficient. The fish and chips in the Copenhagen Restaurant are the best that we had during our visit to Guernsey. In addition the pork ribs and crab cake starters were also very good. Also the steaks prepared in the Copenhagen were also excellent, especially the fillet and rib eye steaks. The accompanying chips, vegetables and sauces were also very good.

    « Return Visit »

Happy to return to this hotel in Guernsey. Food and service excellent. Enjoyed the new Copenhagen bar and grill in the evening. We also made use of the Pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna suite. On the island we visited the little chapel, the Occupation Museum and the Aquarium. We also had a day on the nearby Herm Island and the Isle of Sark, ferries from the St Peter Port Harbour.

« Finally! Eco-friendliness goes beyond just a sticker on the wall... »

My main comment probably isn't going to help too many people decide whether to use the hotel, so I'll just quickly say that the hotel location is good for walking into St Peter Port, the restaurant is good (I had both breakfast and dinner - vegetarian curry was nice), and the rooms are pretty good. Anyway, here's my little side story. I probably have about 10-20 business hotel stays per year, and without exception, the hotels all have a sticker or note in the bathroom that comments on the high environmental impact of water use and detergents needed to wash everybody's towels every day, and how you should hand up your towels if you don't need them washed that day. I'm sure you've all seen that note. Being a bit of a sceptic, I have an experiment I conduct. I always hang my towels up after using them in a way that there can be no mistaking the fact that I have used them but am happy to use them again. But I put a little bot on the back of the towel's tag with a pen. This lets me see whether the towels were left or changed. I've been doing this for about 8 years. SO that's a lot of hotel visits in a lot of different hotels. Disappointingly, only the De Havelet and one other hotel in all of those visits *actually left the towels for re-use*. So congratulations, De Havelet and Hotel 50 in Portland, and shame on all you other hotels around the world. The rest of you are basically just trying to look good while wasting paper saying how environmentally friendly you supposedly are. :-(

« Great Hotel, perfect location »

Stayed here for a week. Impeccable service, love the spa facilities.Swim, Jacuzzi, Steam and Sauna. Staff at both the Copenhagen bar and the Wellington Boot restaurant very attentive. Varied menu, excellent food. Best tip is to use the back way into town - when walking turn left left inside of right, less steep and easier walk than the big, steep hill.

« Best Western Hotel De Havelet, St. Peter Port, Guernsey »

The location of the hotel was very good, quiet with beautiful views and close to the town's many bus routes. Our room, in the courtyard, was extremely comfortable with everything necessary for our stay. We particularly enjoyed the indoor pool, with steam room and sauna. What was so special at Hotel De Havelet were the amazing staff. Everyone was efficient, kind, helpful and friendly. We cannot rate them, or the food, highly enough.

Hotel was excellent for our needs. We were a group of six elderly walkers, We all had good rooms, the service was attentive and the meals were splendid. We very much enjoyed all aspects of our stay. It was a pity the advertised minibus to the town was not available, otherwise everything was as expected. A table was reserved for all meals in a very good position with sea views. The service in the evening was occasionally slow, with a long wait either to order or between courses, but otherwise very good. Choice of food was good, but more and varied vegetables would have been appreciated. Some of the group used the swimming pool and enjoyed it.

« Go, if only for their restaurant »

We'd booked B&B for week, but after dinner on our first night converted to half board because restaurant was that good. This is a very professionally-run hotel and the manager was helping about the place a lot. Always smiles from a happy and friendly staff at all levels. First hotel we've stayed in where the complimentary bottled water and fruit bowl in our room were replenished daily - you'll get your five-a-day here! I was surprised to find a radiogram in the guest lounge. (This bit of nostalgia must use valves not transistors and at about 55 years old was still working perfectly!) Housekeeping was faultless; everything was always spotless. Sadly, didn't have time to use their indoor pool or jacuzzi but they look excellent.

    « Wonderful stay »

Recently returned from a 1 week stay and have to praise the hotel its people, comfort and cleanliness. In a great location, this hotel has a very relaxing and calm atmosphere. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, good sized bathroom and good TV. Everywhere in the hotel the wifi was strong and reliable. The staff are always very calm, polite, friendly and helpful - they are, I believe, what makes this such a good hotel.

    « Wonderful stay »

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights whilst visiting some friends in Guernsey. Our stay here was brilliant from start to finish. The weather was a bit dull one of the days so we made full use of the pool and spa! Staff were all extremely polite and friendly throughout and we stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which was beautiful - the bed was also very comfy! Ate breakfast one of the days in the hotel which was lovely, would love to come back and eat dinner in the restaurant as it looked very nice in the evening. Beautiful views from the hotel - but that leads me to the only down-side...the mighty hill! However we walked back the back way from town the last night and this was a lot easier. Overall a brilliant stay! Would definitely stay here again.

« First stay in Guernsey »

From the time we made our booking until the minute we left we had excellent attention from the most professional and friendly staff. The rooms were very spacious and the facilities exceeded our expectations. One reason we travelled to the island was to enjoy some delicious meals as part of the Tennerfest as we had done this in Jersey in previous years. We had two evening meals at De Havelet and they were excellent as were the breakfasts which had a wide array of choice. Can heartily recommend.

    « A great stay »

Can only agree with everything that has been written about this Hotel. But will start with a warning. My wife can only sleep with windows open and loads of fresh air. Originally we are assigned room 3 which is a standard room overlooking the courtyard. Unfortunately the windows in this room open into the enclosed access corridor around the inner courtyard. They are frosted fro privacy but we would not be able to keep them open over night as people left and arrived and as the corridor is enclosed not fresh air. Immediately went to reception and explained the issue and the receptionist tried to move us but no standard other rooms available so had to pay an excess of sixty pounds to move to a superior room which overlooked the garden room 33. This was far better as both windows could be open. I am not sure if all standard rooms were like number 3 but I have never had this issue before except at city centre Hotels which I now always check before booking. No criticism of the Hotel as both rooms were spotless and in fact 3 had a walk in shower and bath rather than the combined unit in 33 so fr some would have been a better room. Everything about our stay was amazing and I would rate this hotel a draw for the number one spot in my top 10 Hotels. Special mention of the breakfast which were superb and could be customised to your own preferences and we both liked the smoothie of the day, Book now you will not regret it and we are hoping to return in 2018.

« Cannot praise highly enough! »

Very happy with my stay. The staff are professional, friendly and helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean and very well presented. We ate at the hotel throughout our three night stay and tried both restaurants. Cannot find fault at all and felt the food was well priced. Already planning our next visit!

« Just as good as I remembered »

Having been to this hotel four years ago I decided to return as I only had good memories of it. We had arrived at 9:15 pm so it was almost 9:30 when we arrived at the restaurant. The staff were told to expect us and we weren't rushed at all over our evening meal. Our room was large and well equipped. There were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe and drawers for storing clothes. The tea coffee, biscuits and mints as well as bottled water were replenished daily in our room. There was also a good sized fridge. Breakfasts too were very good and we ate enough to keep us going most of the day. The swimming pool was always clean and warm with plenty of clean towels for guests use. Staff throughout the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds were all spotlessly clean. If you don't have a vehicle to hand be aware it is very hilly all around but this makes the views from the hotel incredible. If we visit Guernsey again we would definitely return to this hotel as it suited our needs perfectly.

    « Fabulous stay »

We stayed at De Havelet in mid-September 2017 for 5 nights. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, and very well equipped. The bathroom had the bath and shower and plenty of space for toiletries. Very clean. We enjoyed a fridge, bedroom table and two comfortable chairs, large writing desk, and a large drinks table underneath a big flat-screen TV. The Wi-Fi was very good everywhere we went in the buildings As usual in Best Western, brilliant six foot comfortable bed and loads of wardrobe space, drawers, and even and iron and board Apart from the tea / coffee being replenished every day, we enjoyed generous daily helpings of chocolate mints and wrapped coffee biscuits. Reception was very well staffed, and had our bags taken to the room ? nice touch. The staff were excellent in every way, and made our stay feel really welcome. The hotel had a good sized in-door swimming pool with very clean changing and toilet facilities. Brilliant to return to when all hot and bothered. It had a very large lounge with comfortable arm chairs. It had a PC fully connected and available for guests to use. Good when the phone screen size is just too small to see for planning trips. We had breakfast every day in the Welly ? brilliant selection as you would expect, which leaves you easily full enough to go through to dinner. We ate dinner once in the famous Welly Boot and one in the Copenhagen. They are both superb restaurants and warrant a separate review This hotel has our unqualified recommendation. You will not be disappointed.

    « A welcome autumn break! »

We have just returned from taking my parents on holiday to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. Having booked, I read reviews which highlighted some guests' difficulties in accessing the restaurants and so emailed the hotel directly. They responded very quickly to say that they could arrange breakfast at a more suitable location. True to their word, every day we ate our breakfast in the Copenhagen Bar which avoided my father having to tackle the spiral staircase (beautiful though it was!). The staff were amazing - nothing was too much trouble! Spa facilities were a real treat and we returned relaxed and rejuvenated. Only marked as a 4 star because our room didn't have an 'outside view'. The windows faced in, to the courtyard, and were frosted for privacy. Personally, I like to see 'outside', but the room itself was lovely and bed extremely comfortable and I had no other quibbles!

    « Consistently excellent »

Another very pleasant stay at De Havelet; consistency is the word. Polite, attentive but unobtrusive staff - clean, comfortable room and QUIET at all times. Good location - a short, walk into St Peter Port. Excellent food well prepared and presented in the restaurant. Nothing to fault.

« Best Western Hotel De Havelet »

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of the centre of St. Peter Port with lounges, restaurants and bar well decorated with all having a pleasant atmosphere. The menus appeared to change daily and the food was of excellent quality, as were the staff who were attentive and friendly. The bedroom was clean and well equipped; however, my one concern was that the plumbing was loud. We could clearly hear water draining from adjacent rooms.

« Gorgeous Setting, Fabulous Rooms and the most courteous staff I have ever encountered »

I have just returned back from a 2 night break in Guernsey and we stayed at the Hotel de Havelet. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, we stayed in room 27 and would suggest requesting this room as, from what I can see, it's the only room with a terrace and is beautiful. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable and the bedroom / bathroom was lovely and clean. The staff at the hotel are so courteous and friendly, a lady on reception checked us in and she was so lovely, we dealt with her on a number of occasions over the weekend and wish I had got her name as I would write to the hotel to compliment her and advise what a credit she is to the hotel. Every member of staff we encountered was equally as friendly and attentive and nothing seemed too much effort for them. I especially loved that you could order the breakfast to your room with no extra charge which is very unusual - I would normally expect a tray charge. I cannot believe this hotel is only a 3 star property, I would definitely give it at least 4 stars based on service alone! If you are looking for somewhere to stay on your trip to Guernsey then I would recommend this hotel - great location, great rooms, lovely staff and a fantastic place to stay.

    « Really lovely Hotel »

We picked this hotel after reading all the reviews on this site, and we were not disappointed, it's everything all the other reviewers said, we don't have any negatives, it's a lovely hotel, the staff are all so friendly and helpful, You won't be disappointed if you choose this hotel.

« Fantastic food at the Copenhagen Bar and Grill »

Our first visit to Guernsey and the wonderful hotel De Havelet, the hotel arranged Taxi from St. Peterport ferry terminal, a good call as the hotel is situated on a hill with magnificent views of the harbour. We were given a warm welcome by the reception staff, and had a good sized room on the ground floor looking into the courtyard, nice and peaceful and quiet. The hotel is immaculately clean and tidy throughout, all staff are wonderful, we enjoyed fantastic food at the Copenhagen Bar and Grill, 'Peadro' was a fantastic host and ensured that we had a table with great views, we would reccommend the Moules Marinierres as a good starter, very smart decoration, lovely bar and lovely ambiance. Nice outside space and eating area under cover, perfect start to our holiday

    « A lovely break »

We stayed in room 10 overlooking a garden. The hotel was immaculately clean and all the staff from receptionists to waiters and chambermaids were so friendly and welcoming. The tea, coffee, biscuits and chocolates in the room were plentiful and topped up every day and bottled water provided every day. Beds were turned down in the evening and another chocolate provided! There are two restaurants both of which we found to be excellent and the breakfasts were lovely. The hotel has a complementary mini bus service into town. They also provide in high season a complementary trip around the island with a Very careful driver who was very informative and interesting. The hotel has a Very pleasant swimming pool and Jacuzzi and sauna.

« First time in Guernsey »

Our first visit to the island, wonderful restful destination. This was only made better by such a fantastic stay at this hotel. Staff, facilities, food and service were probably the best we have ever experienced. Nothing is too much trouble, and the staff in the restaurant, especially Andy, are as good as you will find. The pool, sauna and Jacuzzi suite is excellent as well. And the area around the hotel is quiet and picturesque. I advise anyone going to the Island to stay here.

« Would love to stay here again in the future »

A lovely hotel ,always spotlessly clean in all areas. The staff are very efficient and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them, they have a fair knowledge of the surrounding areas and are happy to help you with directions. The receptionists are always welcoming each time you come into the Hotel. The Wellington Boot restaurant serves delicious meals and the service is amazing,we had one meal in the Copenhagen bar the food was good but it was too bustling and noisy for our taste. The rooms are a good size and kept very clean by the very nice housekeeping team, there was always plenty of tea and coffee ,plus the bottled water replenished daily, Would I stay there again a big YES ,even though it's a steep climb the views are worth it.

    « Holiday »

This was our third visit in 5 years to the De Havelet, let me start by saying that the Hotel is very well presented and the bedroom was clean and tidy, the Breakfast at the De Havelet is one of the best we've ever had anywhere and we must also mention the staff in the restaurant Jose, Andy, Angel, Catia and Luca sorry if we've missed one or two, not forgetting the reception staff they are a credit to the Hotel and offer the highest possible service and nothing is too much trouble for them. Unfortunately I particularly was a little underwhelmed by the evening meal, since our last visit they have reduced the number of courses from 4 to 3 as well as reducing to just one veg and one potato from two veg and two potato option with the main meal and what is the point of polenta fries (I did have a quick conversation with Gennaro regards this), but also to me there was some repetition of the meals on starters and deserts, also on Monday evenings you now eat in the downstairs restaurant 'Copenhagen' which is very nice, there was a small problem here where we were both served with only luke warm soup which we had to send back, a mistake that shouldn't happen. Next was our room number 29!, it is situated on the corner of the Hotel above the reception and overlooking the restaurant building to the left, as soon as we entered the room you could hear noise, above the restaurant's you could hear the extractors and to the right of the window the boiler flue which was about15 feet away and kicked on and off constantly, I did ask on arrival if another room was available but they said no!, then every morning you could hear the staff chatting away in the small yard below from 6.30am and they didn't talk quietly either, then it got worse Bin Lorries and deliveries every day all before 7 in the morning, also on 2 nights we had staff chatting away again outside till 1 in the morning, so if you are a light sleeper or don't want to be woken up early by crashing of bins or slamming of doors avoid room 29.

Cannot fault the hotel, the rooms are very well appointed and spotless, the staff friendly and efficient and the Wellington boot restaurant is excellent. That's why we return and plan to keep doing so!

    « Excellent Staff »

A really pleasant place to stay. Our room was a good size, supplied with a good selection of tea/coffee etc, plus bottled water and lovely frsh fruit topped up daily. The breakfast was superb, with and excellent choice of dishes, freshly cooked to order. We also enjoyed good evening meals in both restaurants. Situated at the top of a hill, which some may find daunting, but a courtesy bus is available, and the location means super views from the dining room. (Again, some folk may have found the spiral stiarcase to the dining room a problem). All the staff were particularly friendly, polite and helpful. We had a great stay!

« A 3 Star hotel that is defintely worth MORE!! »

We stayed here July/Aug 2017 as part of our Ruby Wedding holiday trip. The hotel staff treated us so well - bottle of Prosecco & a card on the day & a special "cake" & a firework candle. The rooms are excellent & well serviced, a nice pool & a lovely terrace. 2 brilliant Restaurants - The Welllington for breakfast & most evening meals + The Cpenhagen for one evening meal. Great view over the harbour. Hotel is on outskirt of the town but only a 10 min walk down the hill. There is a hotel bus & taxis & hire cars are easily arranged. Very good knowledge & helpfulness of staff on front desk. Book it!!!

    « Our recent stay »

Had a very enjoyable stay at Hotel De Havelet with my wife and son. We have stayed before and thoroughly enjoyed. Staff are very welcoming, the rooms very nice and clean. The Breakfast and restaurant are extremely good and actually breakfast one of the best in terms of service and value I have experienced anywhere. The bar and outside seating area has views over the sea and St Peter Port. Really great stay and if you want a balcony then there is one and can be requested. 10/10 from me.

« I wish we could award four and a half out of five »

I feel I need to keep back a 5 out of 5 in case I ever get to the Burj Al Arab or the Ballyfin Demesne, but I was delighted with this choice of hotel in Guernsey. Our room was large and spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed and nice touches such as fresh fruit and bottled water (at no extra charge) as well as the usual tea, coffee and hot chocolate. There is a short tunnel leading between the main building (a lovely old mansion) and the two restaurants - we tried the traditional hotel restaurant (the Wellington Boot) and the less formal and livelier Copenhagen bar and grill - both provided excellent and friendly service and delicious meals. We liked the location - on the edge of town but close enough to stroll into the centre. But the hill back up could be strenuous in hot weather or for those with limited mobility. In summary, it is an excellent hotel at a sensible price.

    « Great experience »

We stayed 3 nights at the Best Western Hotel De Havelet, St. Peter Port (Guernsey) and enjoyed it very much. The facilities are great ? indoor swimming pool, the quality of the food in their restaurant The Copenhagen is amazing and the staff is so helpful we couldn't recommend it more!

« Lovely hotel with great food and staff »

Stayed for a week's B&B holiday at the de Havelet, apart from the climb up the hill to the hotel, the stay was excellent. We ate most nights in the Wellington Boot restaurant as the food and service were excellent with a very relaxing atmosphere. The Copenhagen bistro was more lively but again excellent food and service. The hotel facilities were excellent with a nice pool area and loungers outside (for those who just wanted to relax for the day). The room was very nice, large, clean with tea/coffee making facilities and free bottles of water supplied each day. Overall an excellent hotel and would definitely stay here again should we choose to visit Guernsey again

« Comfortable Beds with Excellent Views »

We had a lovely 2 night break at this hotel. Our en suite room was quite large and very well equipped with a nice bowl of fresh fruit to welcome us. In addition there was tea and coffee making facilities with a selection of teas, coffee ,hot chocolate and after dinner mints. The room also had a fridge for personal use ,iron and ironing board with a trouser press and a selection of different types of pillows. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had a nice view to the front of the hotel. We had our breakfast and evening meals in the Wellington Boot restaurent which has an excellent view over the harbour entrance. The choice at breakfast was excellent for either a continental or full english and our evening meals were beautifully cooked and good value for money. The rerstaurent staff were attentive without being intrusive and it was nice to see the hotel manager come to talk to each of the guests during the evening. The hotel staff were always welcoming and smiling and nothing was too much trouble. The only slight drawback is that the road to the hotel is on a bit of a climb up from the harbour but as all the roads in St Peter Port run downward to the harbour this cannot be avoided, but the hotel offers a regular mini bus service to get around the town if you don't want to walk or drive. Overall we had an excellent stay and we will return

« Lovely Hotel with Great View and Food »

Stayed at the de Havelet on a weekend. Spotlessly clean room, quiet location, delicious meals (dinner and breakfast), wonderful staff, nice pool, jacuzzi and the steam room to relax after many lovely walks in the island! What more could one desire, I will go back!

« First vissit to Guernsey »

The moment we stepped into Hotel De Havelet we knew we would have a good holiday. A fantastic place run by professional people who throughout the hotel put you first. The reception team were excellent and present an excellent front of house welcome. The rooms are clean, spacious and well maintained. Every facility is available and should a problem occur they are very proactive in resolving the issue. The Wellington restaurant's food and service cannot be faulted. the Crab Bisque and Sea Bass is a must. They provide a complimentary mini bus down to the town and on Tuesdays and Thursdays they provide a complimentary tour of the island. As first timers to the island this gives an excellent opportunity to see the island and get your bearings. The driver Bobby is a star and on our stay his contribution helped significantly to a wonderful holiday. This is the best hotel we have stay in and will go regularly from now on. Visit Herm, 20 minutes from the town, a real experience of an island, no clocks, no mobiles, no TV and no loud radios, a dream of a place. Overall this hotel gives plenty of opportunities and gives excellent value for money.

« FIRST VISIT TO GUERNSEY »

a fantastic hotel in everyway. situated in a quiet part of the island in which all the team are very focussed on customer service.. From first entering the hotel nothing is too much trouble to please. The rooms are excellent in which they are clean, roomy and maintained to a high standard. Plenty of instant hot water, bath sheets and complimentary bath room accessories. The Wellington restaurant provides fantastic menus, of high quality served to the table by a great team of people. Angel, Andy, Isobel, Nadejda and Jose are very attentive without being intrusive. this is a great hotel which offers a high level of service and also provides a complimentary mini bus to take you into the town. Bobby the driver contributes significantly to a great holiday.Do visit Herm but not on a Sunday as it tends to be busy, What a gem of an island just off Guernsey. We will return time and time again.

« Never fails to delight »

Another fabulous holiday in this wonderful hotel. The staff consistently go the extra mile to make guests' stay special. Nothing is too much trouble and if there are problems they do everything in their power to put things right. Food is great in both Wellington Boot and Copenhagen Bar and Grill; rooms are clean and comfortable; pool and spa area are great for a swim and relax. Breakfast table and selection of hot and cold food is exemplary and of a far higher standard than many 5* hotels. If I get to heaven, I hope it is like the De Havelet.

« Great holiday hotel in Guernsey »

We had a superior double room which was in the main original part of the building on the first floor. Although a bit expensive it was first class. The room was very clean and nicely decorated and the bathroom was large and immaculate with a good supply of quality toiletries which were kept replenished. As a superior room we had bottled spring water, soft drinks and biscuits as well as the usual tea and coffee plus a basket of fresh fruit daily. The room was large with good amount of spaces for clothes and a large wardrobe. There was a good size indoor pool at a nice temperature and a jacuzzi and loungers. There were two quality restaurants across the courtyard and a great breakfast was served in one with a large choice which was freshly cooked to order and served. We also ate dinner there on three nights which again was first class. Restaurants are open to non-residents and were popular. All the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. There are gardens front and rear with seating and loungers. The hotel has nice views through trees to Havelet bay and the castle. However there is a fairly steep walk uphill to the hotel taking about 10 minutes, but we had our car. Good size car park. No traffic or other noise. Hotel was three star but felt like four star.

    « Fabulous hotel! »

It is very obvious that the staff at this hotel pay a great deal of attention to detail. The room was spotless and the staff continually checked to see if we needed anything. They even have a small refrigerator and a fan in the room. Dinner at the hotel bar was one of the best of my 2 week trip to England! The mussels were delicious; they allowed my son to order off the menu, and he remarked on how many waiters we had catering to our needs. The hotel is a bit of a hike down to the bus station, but they have fabulous views and offer free rides to the various areas of town. We chose to make the climb - needed to work off the great dinner we had!

    « Highly Recommended Hotel »

No hesitation in recommending this hotel. It is excellent in all respects, with award-winning status, and the management and its wonderful team obviously intend to keep it that way. Pool area is tranquil and both restaurants first rate. It is generously staffed, which is such a treat these days. The short walk into town is great exercise coming back, but there is a hotel bus for those who want it. Six of us stayed a full week and couldn't fault it or praise it enough.

    « Most accommodating staff »

We spent four nights at this hotel which as others have said, is high on a hill overlooking the harbor. While it may be a "short walk" to the high street, be advised that short walk includes a very steep hill... The room we had was quite traditional, and while it could use a bit of freshening up, it was clean and comfortable. Since there is no air conditioning, and being surrounded by the sea, the room can get a bit musty if the windows are not left open. There was tea and coffee service in the room and lovely chocolates which were refreshed daily!! Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of individually cooked options and additional items offered from a buffet. The staff was most willing to amend any item on the breakfast menu to suit individual requests. We also ate in the restaurant (well, actually out on the patio overlooking the harbor) and enjoyed very nice meals and snacks. The bar was also enjoyed.. quite a bit especially when friends who live in Guernsey joined us on two occasions. There is an indoor pool and sauna and steam room which was enjoyed on two of the afternoons when the weather wasn't cooperating for site seeing. But I do want to reaffirm what others have said about the staff. One would be hard pressed to find a more responsive group of people. The reception staff, food service, bar, housekeeping....all were terrific. This certainly came home to me when after returning from a day trip to Sark, I needed assistance because I had a cycling accident during which I severely injured my ankle and leg. (Later learned I in fact broke my leg.) Upon return to the hotel I asked if I could have some ice. The receptionist called food service to ask if they had any ice packs. They said no, but she explained and said,"Do what you can." Immediately after hobbling to my room, there was a knock on the door by a staff member carrying a plastic bag full of ice. Room service followed. The next day they offered other kinds of assistance. Very thoughtful and beyond the usual. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel on every level And the caring, attentive staff makes this a very nice place to stay.

    « Wonderful stay »

I don't normally write reviews however this was worth commenting on. This hotel is well situated at the top of a hill with great views, short walk to St Peters Port. There is a free bus if required. The best feature is that the staff were all amazingly friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Probably the best customer service I have experienced. Everything clean and lovely pool area. Also I have to mention the food! Beautiful quality and selection for breakfast. Also had dinner twice at the Copenhagen restaurant, again wonderful service and excellent food. This hotel is well run with all the little details covered that made my stay so relaxing. If I come to Guernsey again I will definitely be staying here.

« Best Western is the Best ! »

The staff could not do enough to make your stay good. The manager made his mission to make sure you were satisfied with everything. Had a problem with the room but it was changed immediately. Bar staff and restaurant staff work long hours but they all seem really happy to be serving you. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill but there are taxis if you feel less energetic. The views were brilliant

« Wonderful stay at the top of the hill »

My Cousin and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the De Havelet. We enjoyed our breakfasts and the one evening meal we had was scrumptious. We will hopefully come again. Our room was spacious and spotless, as was the bathroom. We had two windows in the room and one in the bathroom, which made it very light. The two armchairs were very comfy and the lights in the evening were bright enough to read by, which I enjoy.

« Still simply the Best (Western) »

No apologies for reviewing the hotel again. We have just returned from a 10 day stay and feel extremely relaxed and pampered. All staff greet you like friends and cannot do enough to ensure that your stay is as enjoyable as possible. I don't really like naming individuals as everyone puts in so much effort but Sandis (assistant General Manager) turns his hand to anything and everything and at times appears to be in two places at once! Isabell in the Wellington Boot restuarant even managed to source a pudding for us that was not on the menu and Angell (also Wellington Boot) always goes the extra mile to ensure that you have everything you need. The menu in the Wellington Boot is varied with plenty of choice and the food well prepared. Kati and Aline on reception are extremely helpful and mines of information. We also dined in the Copenhagen restaurant which is always fun and the food great. The atmosphere is welcoming and is well supported by locals, always a good recommendation. Our room was lovely with plenty of space. If you are wanting a relaxing break I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

    « Excellent hotel. »

We have just returned from a week stay in this hotel. From the minute we arrived the staff were so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is exceptionally clean and tidy both in communal areas and the bedrooms, including the pool and spa areas which we used most days. The bedroom was cleaned every morning then checked every evening with the bed being turned down, chocolates on the pillow, bottles of water and the tea/coffee being topped up. We stayed on a half board basis and the food was out of this world, as were all the waiting staff who were very attentive. The assistant manager spoke to everyone daily at meal times making sure we were happy with our stay, asking what we had been doing that day and advising on other things we could do. All the staff were this attentive all the time - way beyond what we would expect! We ate in the Wellington Boot restaurant each day for both breakfast and evening meal but had drinks in the Copenhagen bar most evenings and one meal in there. The food and staff were just as good in there but it has a more casual feel to it. We would strongly recommend this hotel and restaurants, the only downside being our waistbands being rather tight now we are home, but we can live with that! A wonderful stay and will definitely return.

    « Wonderful hotel DeHavelet »

This hotel is terrific, probably because the staff are so good at what they do. Always made welcome and looked after by the team. Location is good and facilities pretty good too. Rooms are very good and the restaurant food is excellent. Highly recommended, never found fault each time i have stayed here.

    « Nice hotel »

Stayed recently for a few nights. Hotel is nice, room was tucked away which was good as it meant we got undisturbed sleep. I used the pool every day which was clean and always had towels available. All staff were friendly and helpful. Food was nice at breakfast and we also ate at both restaurants which again, was nice. The only downfall to the hotel is the steep climb back up again but apart from that couldn't fault our stay and will definitely recommend.

« Disappointed with some of the quality of food served at breakfast time!!!! »

We were pleased with the very warm welcome we received at reception when we arrived at this lovely hotel & our bedroom & bathroom were extremely clean as were all the public areas in this guest friendly hotel. The basket of fresh fruit, bottles of water & soft drinks provided were much appreciated in the hot weather. Hopefully the rooms will also have air conditioning provided the next time the rooms are refurbished? All our main meals in the hotel were eaten in the Wellington Boot restaurant; this was for breakfast each morning, a splendid Sunday lunch plus dinner on two evenings. However guests planning on staying or at this hotel should be aware that the Wellington Boot restaurant (where breakfast is served) can only be reached by a circular staircase & is impossible to reach by anyone with severe disabilities or in a wheelchair. We were also well looked after by the team in the Copenhagen bar area where we had light bites & pre-dinner drinks most evenings. All management & staff tried their very best to accommodate our family requirements & we were very pleased overall nevertheless we were very disappointed with the quality of some of the food served at breakfast time. The continental breakfast cold buffet offered a good selection & when we ordered an English breakfast including scrambled egg, we were satisfied. Unfortunately we were served on one morning, Hollandaise sauce that had scrambled into a gluey mess & couldn't be eaten. Sandis Zile, the very approachable Assistant Manager did manage to get the quality of this dish improved for later in the week. Regrettably two of our family had to leave most of their Spinach & Egg White Omelets on our final morning because they appeared to have been fried using fat & tasted unpalatable. Ill-advisably this dish was described as the ?healthy breakfast' option on the menu. Sandis was again very apologetic when he took the two plates of food away to show the chef but situation left two of our family still hungry. We resolved this ourselves by visiting Coco (a small nearby café) for breakfast later that morning. We recently experienced far superior food at a boutique hotel in Chester & then a small Bed & Breakfast establishment in West Wales. Good managements controls from Gennaro Festivo, the General Manager & his team result in very good standards overall (therefore a 4 rating) however we would probably choose to book on a room only basis next time we visit & eat breakfast elsewhere in St Peter Port. Alternatively we would prefer that the problems we experienced at breakfasts time during our stay have already been fully investigated by senior management & resolved very quickly.

    « PERFECT LOCATION.GOOD FOOD.EXCELLENT STAFF »

A lovely hotel in a perfect location . Good food and excellent attentive staff . Nothing too much trouble , attention to detail is obvious down to little touches in guest room . A super clean hotel in public and private rooms , including the pool and spa areas .

    « Home from home..... »

Now then, if memory serves me, we've been coming here every year since 2003; hence the title for this review. There's really nothing I can add to either my earlier reviews, or to those more recent ones from other guests, except to fully endorse every positive comment that's been made. This is an exceptional hotel in every way, and if you look back over my other reviews you will see that we are discerning travellers and we don't give a 5* hotel reviews lightly, .......and this shouldn't be a 5* review, either. No; it really deserves to be 6*. And if by some chance we were ever restricted to taking only one holiday each year, then Guernsey and this hotel would be our holiday of choice. The staff, too, are exceptional and even though we've been coming for years (although by no means as long as some other returning guests we know of ! - that speaks for itself, doesn't it?) we are never taken for granted, but are always treated almost as "friends and family" and are left with the warm feeling of being "valued". In this day and age what a pleasant experience! Long may it continue. Keep up the good work..!

    « Another great holiday »

We love staying here as the staff are very attentive and nothing is to much trouble. The food is excellent with good variety the breakfast menu allows you to have a different choice each day. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Great views over the harbour and castle. So glad of the complementary bus down and back from the town.

    4
    « Very Friendly »

The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. It was in a good location, the pool was great and the rooms clean. The restaurant was good too, the staff attended to our needs and the food was tasty, we would stay again.

    « Superb Anniversary Break »

Hotel on outskirts of St Peter Port, up steep hill but with great views of the harbour and castle. Booked suite for an anniversary stay, room large with seating area, coffee machine unlimited refill pods, large bed (comes with a choice of pillow types). Door direct to outside terrace. " 2 Restaurants to choose from, upstairs The Wellington boot again with outstanding views of the harbour and downstairs The Copenhagen stylish Bar and Restaurant of which both serve outstanding food. Pool area spotlessly clean with Pool, Jacuzzi, steam and sauna. But the best thing about this hotel is the attention to detail that the staff provide, from Check in to check out nothing is too much trouble.

    « Lovely hotel »

Very progressional and friendly check in and we were also shown to our rooms which is a nice touch. Reception also provides a courtesy call to confirm I was happy with my room - which I was very clean and spacious. Couldn't not fault this hotel. However it is located up a steep hill so may cause some people problems but I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

    « Excellent short break »

Beautiful hotel close to St Peter Port Centre.2 minute walk to sea front,10 minutes to town Centre.Steep hill to negotiate. Excellent service and two superb restaurants. All amenities including indoor pool, good wi fi , and efficient and friendly staff, with good clean energy suite rooms. Abou £10 taxi from airport.

    « Hard to fault »

Stated 10 days in Late June/July. Great hotel. Staff welcoming and anxious to make your stay a happy one. Underused but very nice pool on site and choice of two restaurants. Food quality very good and reasonably priced for a hotel. Courtesy bus down into town centre but we walked it. Quite a climb up Havelet hill on return, or a slightly longer, steadier ascent past Victor Hugo's house which we preferred. First stop on arrival was the Copenhagen bar for a glass or two of something refreshing. Rooms were perhaps a little dated now but perfectly functional with good storage. We ate in one of the onsite restaurants in the evening - we couldn't face two climbs in one day!

« Great, slightly old school hotel (but nothing wrong with that) »

On a business trip to Guernsey and really only needed a bed for the night in an hotel in St Peter Port, but this hotel is a little bit special. Slightly "quirky" and a bit old-fashioned (which perhaps appeals to a generally older clientele). Front door locks at 10pm and you need a key to get in. And the restaurant and bar are not in the main hotel, but only a short walk away, and you can always take the tunnel from reception (a legacy of the second world war?) The staff were exceptionally good and helpful, particularly Aline the receptionist. And they have a manager who actually walks around their hotel and talks to the guests. As others have commented, the hotel is on a hill above the town - it's a nice walk into town but quite a climb coming back. But with its own swimming pool and nice gardens, with good restaurants and a pleasant bar, you may not need to leave the hotel

    « A comfortable reliable hotel »

We have stayed here 3 times now and would not want to stay anywhere else on the Island. Well run and with well trained and friendly staff, the rooms are comfortable and food is excellent. Lovely views across the harbour from the public rooms.

    5
« Wonderful hotel in a wonderful destination! »

Guernsey is a great place to vacation! There's a lot to see on the island and travel to the other islands is easy. The local bus system is also easy to use. The Best Western Havelet is a lovely hotel located at the top of a steep hill, so travelers who have mobility issues should probably stay elsewhere unless they have a car. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is very good. You pay extra for breakfast, but even the cold buffet is very varied and quite good. I would definitely stay there again.

    « 3rd time in four years. »

This is the third time we have visited the De Havelet Hotel in four years. Its so nice to be greeted by familiar staff members. Any Hotel that can keep staff this long must be doing something right. Rooms are spacious and very clean.Ours was No 26 we have previously stayed in No 27. I have no doubt that on our next visit to Guernsey we will be staying at the De Havelet again.

    « Difficult to fault »

We revisited the De Havelet having last visited in the 1980's and prior to that the 1970's!!! We found that we remembered very little other than the Wellington Boot restaurant but the whole experience was excellent in every respect. Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious, well decorated, spotlessly clean and everything was provided including dressing gowns, slippers, fresh fruit and bottles of water each day, plus a fan as there is no a/c and we stayed on the hottest nights of the year so far. We ate in the Wellington Boot and Copenhagen and both were excellent. It was a nice touch for the Assistant Manager to come round each day to make sure we were enjoying our stay, not too many hotels bother to take such an interest in their guests. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel with one reservation, if you walk back from the town be prepared for the steep hill up to the hotel.

    5
    « What a fabulous hotel! »

This is the second time we have stayed at the Hotel De Havelet in two years and we cannot speak too highly of just about every aspect of what the hotel has on offer! Very comfortable, clean rooms with all the facilities, excellent food and wines, a lovely indoor swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms, a fabulous view across Havelet Bay, a welcoming atmosphere throughout the hotel, friendly staff and extremely good service! The attention to detail shown by management ad team members is second to none! It really is such a treat to stay here; we can't wait to return and enjoy another memorable stay with Gennaro Festivo and his team!

« 9 night holiday on half board basis »

Top quality all round service from management to cleaning staff. Everyone courteous and friendly. Spacious superior double room, good sized bathroom. Fresh fruit and bottled water provided daily. Dined in the Wellington Restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. Wide range of choices at breakfast for all tastes. Evening menu is changed daily with good choices with the presentation and cooking of mainly locally sourced food being first class. Would say the hotel is primarily for couples and business people. The hotel operates a free minibus service Monday to Saturday into St Peter Port. The swimming pool and sauna available daily 7am to 9pm.

« Attentive staff, quiet location. »

Back again to Hotel de Havelet and another really pleasurable stay. Any hotel that has a group of happy and obliging staff and which retains them year in year out is doing something right. Excellent food - not fancy but fresh, mostly locally sourced and beautifully cooked. Pool, sauna and gardens all make for a relaxing time in-between work. A big plus is that the rooms are quiet at night - a good sleep is guaranteed!

« Fabulous hotel, great facilities and 2 excellent restaurants on site »

My husband and I had a 3 night break here for his birthday. We had a superior room, which overlooked the lovely gardens and which was above the indoor pool ( think it was 39). It was nice and quiet, a good size and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was well supplied with complimentary toiletries and had a bath over the shower. The hotel is built on a quadrangle around a lovely tranquil courtyard garden with ponds, fountains and statues. The staff were without exception helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and not left sitting under heat lamps. There was also a large continental selection of breads, pastries, yoghurt, cheeses etc. and a "smoothie of the day", which was a nice touch. There are 2 restaurants in the hotel, both boasting the best views of the bay from the property. We usually try out the restaurant once and then often try further afield, but the food was so good that we tried both and ate there every night. The hotel is spotlessly clean and everything is well maintained. There is a lovely indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna and if you want to sunbathe there are loungers in the adjacent palm tree garden. The hotel is almost at the top of a steep hill so you need to be pretty fit to get up and down it, but on the plus side there is a courtesy bus available at certain times of the day and if you want to indulge in a big breakfast and then a nice evening meal it helps the waistline from expanding too much! The public rooms are very elegant and you can also indulge in a Guernsey cream tea if you wish. There's plenty of tourist info available in reception and they'll also book a taxi to the airport if you haven't hired a car. They will also book a table in either of the restaurants which seemed to be essential, as they were both very busy every night with both hotel guests and other islanders. Although the restaurants themselves, naturally are quite noisy because of the number of people, this doesn't impact on the hotel itself as the restaurants are in a building attached to the hotel but not below or next to any bedrooms. The hotel also offers an express check-out if you are in a hurry, which is really handy. For value for money and facilities and service offered, this hotel excels at every opportunity. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will hopefully be returning in the not too distant future.

« Lovely rooms and staff »

We had a superior room set around the inner garden area. It was clean, spacious with a large comfy bed and lots of storage. great selection of Clipper teas and coffees, also chocolate mints and fruit every day. Good size bathroom, over-bath shower and decent toiletries. The reception staff and Manager were helpful and friendly. The Wellington Restaurant staff were always friendly and the assistant manager made time to speak and ask about your day. The service was excellent, as was the food we ate. There was a good a la carte menu and a set menu at a good price based on 2 or 3 courses in the evening and a wide range of hot and cold breakfast food, buffet with hot food cooked to order. We used the pool which was lovely and warm and the whole area was kept clean. We didn't use the bubble pool or sauna, though they were freely available. The gardens and courtyard were attractive and had plenty of seating, which was being replaced while we were there with modern eco-friendly furniture. We didn't use the Copenhagen restaurant. The minibus provided lifts up the steep hill into town several times a day and an island tour twice a week during our stay. The driver was very informative and made it interesting. His driving was excellent on the narrow winding roads we took .Although we hired a car and had driven ourselves around a little, the lack of signs and narrow roads didn't encourage us to explore and the driver knows the island really well and took us to places we hadn't seen. All in all, a lovely holiday.Thank you.

    « Hotel De Havelet May 2017 »

My sister and I had a wonderful stay here. The staff really couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and our lovely room overlooked the terrace in front of the Hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals at the Hotel and found the staff again only too willing to vary dishes to our requirements. We certainly want to visit again.

    « Business and pleasure »

Another great stay at The Havelet. Rooms spotless and clean. Always enjoy the pool and spa. Good food. Location is easy to walk into town or the other way for a cliff top walk. Plenty of car park space. The staff are always so helpful, pleasant and friendly. Would definitely recommend have stayed here many times and the standards are well maintained.

    « hotel break »

An excellent stay in a well run, friendly hotel. The staff, food, and the spa area were all excellent. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. I would recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing break in pleasant surroundings.

    « Afternoon tea »

Had a lovely afternoon tea this afternoon, sat outside on the balcony. Started with a large glass of prosecco. Staff very attentive and helpful. There were far too many finger sandwiches, just 3 each would have been adequate with an offer of more if required. Chicken were the best, unfortunately we did not like the avocado and tomato, nor the rare beef. This has not stopped me from returning but I would probably request different flavours if I booked again. A lovely big scone each with butter, jams, strawberries and cream, macaroons, brownie, millionaires shortbread were good, the plain cake dried out very quickly and was not that pleasant. Very well priced and will certainly go again.

    « OUR PERFECT HOTEL »

This hotel suited our needs. We do not want frills and fancies which we will never use. The Havelet provides comfortable accommodation, friendly and helpful staff and exceedingly good food with a varied menu. We have stayed in so called Boutique Hotels which could take a lesson from the Havelet.. .

« Superb staff and overall standards. »

A very good hotel with high standards and quality of service, and bar and restaurant in a separate annexe though linked by a tunnel to the main building. Great food, and rooms. I would certainly stay here again, and again. Our room was rather warm overnight, admittedly after a very hot sunny day. A window could be opened for some ventilation though this allowed some noise to be heard as people passed by. The hotel is situated uphill from the town centre, which suited us, we are keen walkers, and afforded some views.

    5
« Very relaxing, enjoyable stay »

Lovely room, great food and staff. View from restaurant was amazing looking over the port. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Room was spacious and bed very comfy. Shower and a bath, tea and coffee facilities and mineral water. It was very clean and serviced daily. The food in Wellington and Copenhagen excellent and bar staff and waiting staff couldn't do enough for you.

    5
« Excellent in every respect »

Well situated above the port giving a good view, from the dining room, of the comings and goings in the harbour. A good centre and don't be put off by the mention of the hill. In seven days we used the courtesy bus into town just once. There are several walking routes ranging fro a short sharp pull up hill to a longer but more gentle climb. Our room, 22, was spacious and well appointed and certainly worth the supplement. The staff without exception were efficient, charming and anxious to please. Food was imaginative, well presented and good quality. Thoroughly recommended.

    5
    « Very Nice Hotel »

This is a really nice hotel, with good accommodation and a nice spa set up. The food in the main restaurant was very good and the crab soup was to die for! I did have a minor problem with my room, but that was sorted very quickly and the service provided in general was very good.

« Second Visit..... Love This Gem Of A Hotel & Its Hard Working Management & Team !! »

Once again our stay at The De Havelet was amazing. This is by far the best situated Hotel on the Island, absolutely amazing views from an ideal site. What better way to start your day having a super breakfast attended by the lovely staff and over looking the bay, castle and harbour. The rooms are spotless and well equipped, sleep is comfortably special here!! The swimming pool and its amenities are a welcome back 'Home' after a good days sight seeing. Thank you once again Gennaro and your wonderful team

    « Relaxing and Friendly »

Staying for a week, we got to know the staff in the restaurant and the hotel managers who were ALL genuinely friendly as well as professional. Meals were outstanding, with evening meal choices never repeated. Our room was "Classic', so not a Superior. It was on to a courtyard and a bit gloomy, but appointed and serviced to a very high standard. There's a free shuttle bus to/from town (hotel not on a bus route), though limited times.

    4
« Great value for money »

Good location and facilities including decent pool and sauna and steam room. We stayed in room 19 which was spacious but had no views and was too hot as it is located over or very nearly over the pool facilities. Also quite noisy early in the morning when people are using showers etc.

    5
    « Lovely overnight stay »

We stayed for overnight had a lovely lunch and evening meal staff were very friendly and helpful room was beautiful very clean and spotless we liked the little touchs with water and iron in your room and tea and coffee and fridge , we will be staying again and loved that we didn't need to leave till 11am again we would loved to thank all the staff

    « A weekend with a group of 16 friends »

The De Havelet Hotel was absolutely brilliant. The ambiance of the hotel, the standard of the bedrooms, the warmth of our welcome, and the friendly disposition and attitude of all the staff was top class. The restaurants served first class, delicious food coupled with faultless service. My wife and I have stayed on two previous occasions and recommended The de Havelet Hotel for a three night break to our group of friends. They were all delighted with every aspect of their stay.

    « Fantastic hotel! »

The room was spacious and very comfortable, with great attention to detail. The staff were amazingly helpful and seemed to anticipate our needs before we had to ask. The food in both restaurants was excellent, as was the service.

« Fantastic place, it's just that blummin' hill! »

Everything at the hotel, room, restaurant, service was spot on. My fault was not understanding the topography and the limitation of my old bones. So I had to walk up and down the steep hill to get in to St. Peter Port. Absolutely loved the hotel, just wonder if it's worth hiring a car on my next visit to Guernsey as I would definitely stay again (if you can please remove the hill?).

    5
« Excellent hotel with good views of the town and sea »

Convenient location good food and wonderful service. Easy walking distance to the town and harbour areas Le Wellington restaurant serves a fine selection of well prepared food Internal pool warm with hot pool, sauna and steam room.

    « Des »

Excellent service, great location and a very good choice of food from both restaurants.my bedroom was set in a court yard with a water fountain that was unexpected. My room and the public areas of the hotel were exceptionally clean. This hotel is under rated and should hold a 4 Star rating.

« A perfect hotel and short break in Guernsey »

We spent 4 nights at the De Havelet hotel just before Easter. It was our first trip to the Channel Islands and we certainly were not disappointed. Guernsey was far more beautiful and unspoilt than I had ever imagined. The hotel was perfect in every way and it was lovely to stay in a place where you felt the staff really enjoyed working there and took a pride in their job. It felt well looked after and was spotlessly clean. We used the pool and facilities (sauna, steam room and spa) every day as a way to relax after all the walking we did. It was well-equipped with nice touches like towels and a cold water drinks machine at your disposal. The breakfasts were superb with everything you could wish for from copious English breakfasts to smoothies and healthier options. You could even have a bowl of soft fruits with delicious Guernsey cream! The hotel also has its own restaurant which was very good. Our rooms overlooked the garden at the back and were very quiet and spacious. They were well-equipped with comfortable beds and adequate desk area and lighting and sockets for those of us who also needed to work. We were very well looked after and would love to go back!

    « Fabulous Easter break »

Stayed over Easter, and enjoyed the most wonderful stay. Without exception all the staff are polite, friendly and totally professional. Breakfast was delicious with a wide range of cold buffet and freshly cooked hot meals, with a marvellous view over Castle Cornet! Had one evening meal in the Copenhagen Grill, which was fresh, very tasty, and reasonably priced. My room was near the pool complex, which was never really busy, so enjoyed a swim, steam, spa and sauna everyday. Having towels, sunbeds, water, newspapers and a spin dryer(!) was a welcome addition. Room was spacious and comfortable, especially the huge, high bed with good quality bedding; beautifully cleaned every day. Grounds were excellent with some lovely views. Steep hill to the hotel, but that didn't bother me...just paced myself, stopping at points to admire the view.....walking pole came in very handy! Used the buses every day; loved the £1 per journey, including 1.5 hour round the island trip (when it drizzled on Saturday!). Had a thoroughly relaxing weekend....thank you to al the staff....it is you that makes the difference every time. Have already recommended, and will certainly return.

    5
    « Everything and more »

Booked this as a last minute trip. Fantastic position in a prime location, with stunning views over Castle Cornet and bay. Booked a single room, which was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and had everything you could possibly want for a short or long stay. Hotel and grounds impeccably kept. Do not miss the chance to enjoy the indoor pool, jacuzzi and steam room/sauna. Everyone was extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A credit to the Best Western group. Will definitely be returning. Although the hotel is on a steep hill, the walk up is worth it, but not so good if you have impaired mobility. That said, taxis to the hotel from the town are more than reasonable.

« Easter break in Guernsey »

If John Lewis ever ran a hotel ....this would be it! Members of staff made clear efforts to make sure we were comfortable, from check in to the meals. Our concern about what room type we were offered was dealt with swiftly and with extreme efficiency. Everyone were just too nice (not a bad thing) and the hotel location was just right. We would certainly be going back to Guernsey because of the experience. Thanks guys YOU ALL ROCK!!!

« As usual, tip top »

Returned for the umpteenth time for respite from the hussle and bussle that is life today. A bit like going home. Spoilt rotten by all the staff from Generro and Sandis down to the lower ranks. All I/we can say is go there and see for yourself. We can't wait to return.

    « A walk down memory lane »

Just back from a 4 nights stay in Guernsey for me this was a walk down memory lane as had visited the Isle many times as a child the last being 57 years ago and I wanted my husband to see the places I had talked about. Always a bit worrying booking a hotel for the first time this was not a problem as there was nothing to worry about, we tried to find something wrong but couldn't. On our arrival were given an upgrade on our room, it had a lovely decor , immaculate and quiet. We used the pool and spa but not the town shuttle as had taken our car. Breakfast was of high standard and so much choice. We dined in the Wellington Boot each evening and Brett looked after us at the bar, the food again was of a high standard along with the service . Want to thank all the staff for making our stay perfect....

    « Our Anniversary Celebrations! »

My wife and I had a fantastic week celebrating our anniversary whilst staying at this most wonderful hotel. The last three reviews, (Excellent Service, Spring Break and Havealot Havalet) say it all, which we fully endorse! The staff, food and drink, room and facilities were all excellent and we have already recommended it all to our family and friends. Thank you to one and all. We will be back...

    « Excellent service »

I could not fault this hotel in any way. The rooms are clean spacious, well equipped and well appointed. However, what makes it stand out is the quality of service. Without exception, every member of staff we came across was friendly and good humoured and nothing was too much trouble. Food was superb from breakfast with its wide choice of freshly cooked hot food to a superb afternoon tea and the dinner we had on the last night of our 3 night stay in the Wellington Boot. We had eaten in the centre of St Peter Port on the previous 2 nights and the meals were more expensive but not nearly as good.

    « Spring Break »

I arrived 24th.March for a 7 day holiday,& was very pleased to see many familiar staff members.Checking in was efficient & friendly with good porterage to my room. The classic room was very clean ,warm & well provided also with evening turn down service. During my stay,i made good use of the leisure complex, pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc. This facility was kept to a high standard & a pleasure to use. There are two dining options,The Wellington for traditional dining,or the Copenhagen Bar & Grill.Used both, menu choices very good, dishes creative & of a very high standard, with pleasant & efficient waiting staff. The whole dining experience was the highlght every day.You will notice that there are many local diners,a very good sign of excellence. Overall this holiday was a delight, good value & most of all, excellent service by all of the staff teams in friendly but not in a patronising way. This should be a benchmark for all hotels,i wish! Well impressed,i have booked another week in October.

« Fantastic Stay at the Havelet »

What can I say, what a fantastic weekend. I booked it for my wife's birthday as a surprise, and we both ended up being surprised. Arrived on Saturday around 2pm, and checked in at reception to be told we've been moved from our 'regular' room. Wasn't sure on this, but were escorted to our free upgrade to a suite !!. Wow .... beautiful room with it's own entrance, lovely decoration and on-suite. Tea and coffee, and even had an espresso machine !. We also made good use of the spa facilities, pool, jacuzzi and steam and sauna. Once finished we made our way back in for afternoon coffee. Later, after a shower and change, it was off to the grill room. We had a lovely meal, with the staff being so attentive and helpful, nothing was too much. After our meal, it was back to lounge for chill, then back to the room, to nestle in to the king size bed for a fantastic nights sleep. It must have been comfortable as upon waking up, we found there had been an f9-f10 storm outside, and neither of us heard it !!. Anyway, as part of the deal, we had an afternoon tea, which we were allowed to come back later and have in the excellent Copenhagen restaurant. Glass of Pruscecco, and then finger sandwiches and cakes, scones and coffee. Spoilt or what!!. The missus was well chuffed with her birthday weekend treat. Just like to say a huge thank you to the management and staff at the hotel for making it a memorable weekend.

« The Hotel is Great but The Staff are Better »

We've now stayed at Hotel De Havelet twice and each time our visit has been fantastic. Located a short walk from St Peters Port Hotel De Havelet is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle. The Hotel itself is always clean and tidy. Well decorated, warm and inviting. The Staff give 100% all the time to make your stay the best it can possible be. The management put a lot of time and effort in to meeting the guests and do not hide away in the background and that really shows and comes across to the guests. The Copenhagen Bar was a new addition for us this year and was a pleasant edition to the great facilities that were already on offer. It might only have 3 Stars but this hotel, staff and management all offer 5 Star service. Thank you for looking after us and letting us enjoy our stay with you.

« The hotel staff are exceptionally well organised and efficient. »

We thoroughly enjoyed a four night stay in this excellent hotel. The staff at all levels of the organisation made us feel like valued customers from the moment we arrived. Our room (27) was very comfortable and well appointed, the restaurant service and the food was good, and the general decor of public areas in the hotel is pleasant. We also enjoyed the indoor swimming pool, complete with sauna, staem room and jacuzzi. Overall, this is an exceptionally well managed hotel in a pleasing location and we hope to stay there again soon.

« 3 star but so much more »

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel, I enjoyed it the first time and loved it this time, the staff are some of the nicest and polite people I have encountered from the cleaners to the waiting staff. The hotel is stopless, the restaurant has been refurbished and it looks fab, the bar and restaurant were both very busy on the Saturday night, but the standard of service and food was of a very high standard. The pool area was relaxing and we'll equipped. I have stayed in far superior hotels but all the little extras her were perfect, bathrobe and slippers in the room, little biscuits and chocolates in with the teas and coffee selection in your room. I would recommend this without hesitation and look forward to my next stay already.

    « Couldn't fault it »

Wonderful week with my mum at this fantastic hotel. Great location, friendly service (the staff go out of their way to be helpful), excellent breakfasts, lovely indoor pool. Fabulous. It's at the top of a steep hill but there's a regular shuttle bus to the town and it means there are spectacular sea views. Loved it.

    « Excellent Short Break »

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel de Havelet. In particular, the staff at every level of the organisation were friendly, helpful and made as feel that we were valued customers. Our room (27) was comfortable and well appointed, the restaurants and public areas were very agreeable, and we took full advantage of the swimming pool, steam room and sauna facilities. We plan the stay at this excellent hotel again next year.

    « Wonderful stay! »

Several members of our family stayed at Hotel de Havelet recently as were visiting Guernsey for a family party and reunion. The hotel is ideally placed to walk in to town(though maybe not for people with mobility problems as quite a steep hill) We found the hotel staff to be very welcoming and friendly and keen to assist. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed and my husband made good use of the indoor pool. The bar and restaurant were both excellent and obviously very popular with locals too. Breakfast was lovely and with stunning views out to sea and beautiful weather for late October it really was a perfect setting. We would definitely return!

« Excellent warm and friendly hotel »

Still as good, an excellent hotel with full amenities, great indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Try the Copenhagen bar and grill, superb menu and great food. Overall rating superb!

« Comfortable, friendly and good value »

We loved our 3-night break at the Hotel de Havelet. Clean and very comfortable, and very attentive staff (without overdoing it). Breakfast every day in the Wellington Boot restaurant, really good. On our last evening we ate dinner there too and it was delicious. The views out to the Castle are magnificent. Out of season the guest minibus stops, and the walk up the hill is quite steep. Fine for us but it might be an issue if you have restricted mobility (but everywhere is hilly in St Peter Port). Highly recommended - I would certainly stay here again.

    « Excellent Hotel »

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. We found it to be very clean and tidy throughout. Staff were particularly helpful. They responded to our particular circumstances very positively and made more effort to make our stay comfortable than we expected. Complementary mini bus service was very useful as the walk back to the Hotel was short, but steep. We also enjoyed the company of Bobby who took us on a free island tour. (Arranged by hotel) We used the spar facilities every day for a couple of hours. They were spotless, fully functional and very quiet. Half the time we were on our own. Food and waiting staff were great, but will review separately. We loved this place.

    « Excellent Island break »

We decided to have a channel island break for 5/6 nights and selected the Best Western Hotel De Havelet in St Peter Port, Guernsey. This was a return visit to the island for us as a follow up to a yachting holiday a few years ago when we got stuck on the islands for four days due to stormy weather and we couldn't believe our luck when our return ferry for this trip was also cancelled on our final day due to bad weather. We have stayed in various Best Western hotels in the UK and found that the standards are generally very good and this particular hotel raised the standards bar. From initially booking in through to our delayed departure the staff were friendly, the service was excellent and no request was too difficult even managing to accommodate us for an extra night due to the late notice ferry cancellation on a busy weekend. The standard of food and service in both the Wellington restaurant and the Copenhagen grill was excellent and very good value for money. The rooms are very well appointed and the superior rooms at the front of the hotel have lovely views of the harbour and castle. The views also from the Wellington restaurant over the harbour and Coronet castle are magnificent. During the season a complimentary bus service tour around the island is ran from the hotel and the driver Bob was a mound of historical information regarding the island and provided several stop offs including a coffee stop. We wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend the hotel for anyone who is visiting the islands and wants accommodation that is well run, with efficient friendly and polite staff where no request is too difficult for them and where customers are treated as valued customers

    « Short Weekend Break »

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting with fantastic views from the restaurant overlooking the castle. The staff were extremely accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The Manager was very helpful and very "hands on" which I think made for the welcoming atmosphere in the hotel. We will definitely be back in the summer

    « Excellent »

My husband and I went for a meal this evening. All I can say is excellent all round. Staff, service and food. Will definitely be going back very soon. Well done. Would recommend anyone, thinking of trying, to please do so. You will not be disappointed.

« Superb Customer service all round ! »

Just returned from a 3 night visit ....what a superb hotel all round - mixture of old and new, excellent food etc etc but the highlight was the fantastic customer service levels from every single member of staff across all different roles and aspects. I visit many hotels regularly and this really sits at the top of the league for its price range - all staff and managers/owners should take enormous credit

« Beautiful hotel with friendly staff - a Guernsey Gem »

As a business traveller I am so grateful when I manage to stay in a truly lovely hotel with staff to match. Conveniently located up the hill from St Peters port it is an ideal location to walk and explore the very attractive surroundings. One rather quirky aspect to Guernsey is the lack of street signs - a throwback to war times when the signs were taken down to confuse the Nazis - they continue to confuse to this day. Getting lost seems to be the favoured form of sport on this lovely island.

    « Top marks! »

My parents recently stayed at De Havelet and couldn't praise the wonderful staff and this hotel highly enough. They had a ground floor room which was superb, comfortable and spotless. The food choices for breakfast and meals in the dining restaurant were excellent even for people with smaller appetites. No need to worry about walking up or down the hill to the hotel as there is a daily shuttle bus, which takes hotel guests without transport, into town, a very welcome bonus. They couldn't fault anything, and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Guernsey. They hope to return again!

« Superb staff, great breakfast and lovely views »

Great hotel. A three star hotel with five star service. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. I am not sure who is in charge of training the staff, but he or she should set up an academy! All the staff were really great. I travel extensively and stay at some very nice five star hotels around the world but none matches the friendliness of the people running the De Havelet. If ever I am in Guernsey again, I will be certain to stay there. The food at the Copenhagen is not only excellent but very reasonably priced. The rooms came across a little dated (I am more used to ultra modern hotels in Dubai etc) but the decor added to the character of the place. A five night stay. I was working while my wife was looked after by the staff. Great stay.

    « I didn't want to leave....honestly! »

We spent four days staying in this wonderful hotel whilst visiting our daughter who lives and works on Guernsey. From the moment we drove into the courtyard it became very clear that this was a little bit special. The hotel and restaurants occupy adjacent buildings, although they are connected by a "secret tunnel" as well as a five second walk from door to door. Great fun. The restaurants were fabulous and we were never disappointed by any of the meals that we had. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals were all of outstanding quality and generously portioned. I've attached a few photos to prove the point. The pool and spa area were real havens for us and the jacuzzi is to die for. We stayed in room 27 which had a balcony and a great view. The moment the door was opened for us by our delightful receptionist we were both immediately struck by the high standard of care that had been taken to present and prepare the room for us. I've stayed in five star hotels that would regard this level of attention to detail as something to aim for. The room was made up for us each day and the standard never dropped. Outstanding. Again I've attached a few photos. Now for the real stars of the stay...the staff. I have genuinely never stayed in a hotel of this size and found ALL members of staff so courteous, considerate and mindful of us as guests. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the service we enjoyed at the hands of these wonderful people was second to none. Staff were patient and happy to spend time with their guests. As I watched over the course of our stay staff treated all guests with a level of respect and care that was admirable, despite one or two trickier clients who, if I'm honest, I would have given short shrift. Smiles never faltered and demeanors were always cheerful. Fabulous. For me it comes down to one question, "Would you go back?" Unequivocally, and without even a microseconds hesitation, YES!! Do yourself a favour if you get the chance and visit this hotel.

« A Lovely Place to Stay in Guernsey »

We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Best Western Hotel De Havelet. The hotel is ideally located in St Peter Port so that it is easily reached from the airport and only a short walk into the town. There is ample parking too. The views from the hotel across the port are stunning particularly from the Boot restaurant and made breakfasts there a real treat. We made full use of the pool / saunas and hot-tub which were wonderful after a day exploring the island. Our room was very pleasant, well equipped, clean and in good order. We used both restaurants and liked their menus so much that we didn't go anywhere else during out week stay. The food was delicious in both. However what made our stay most enjoyable was the staff at the hotel who from the moment we arrived to when we left could not have done more for us. Always friendly and courteous they made us feel so welcome. Highly recommended and we shall definitely stay here again.

« Good Place but for longer stay »

The hotel is located at the top of a very steep hill just a little bit out of the main town area. It has a lovely view of the harbour and surrounding area. The rooms are fine and the breakfast good. There is an excellent small swimming pool that seemed very under utilised. Service and friendliness of staff is really good. The only negative was we were there for a long weekend in mid September and it was a pain walking back to the hotel each night. For such a short stay I would have preferred and recommend staying in the town of St Peter Port itself.

    « Excellent Hotel, Ideal Location...With Absolutely lovely Management & Team !! »

We stayed at Hotel de Havelet for 4 nights over the past weekend and enjoyed our stay tremendously. We traveled with our friends who have stayed at this hotel many times, we also have friends who live on the Island who stay here once a month due to its calming and relaxed excellence which has to be high recommendation in itself. The hotel is clean and very well presented with great detail throughout. Personally I think it is the best positioned Hotel on the Island, with great views of The Castle and Harbour of which we enjoyed every morning with our breakfast, a great start to the day. Gennaro the manager and his team were genuinely caring and did their up-most to make our stay the best it could be. The swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room were great after a days sightseeing, all very relaxing ! We ate in the Wellington Boot Restaurant with 6 other friends on the Saturday evening and the food and service were all excellent. I cant rate this hotel any higher and I really do hope to return there one day.

« Excellent meal and overnight stay. »

I would recommend this hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The meals at the Wellington Boot restaurant were extremely good and for once there was a choice of good vegetarian meals, that rarely happens. The atmosphere in the Copenhagen Grill did not fit in with the overall ambience of the hotel, only ate there once but would not do so again. The rooms and facilities should have been rated higher than 3 *. Views from the main restaurant were out of this world, would certainly return.

« Great Hotel with Excellent Staff »

Great hotel for our 4 day wedding anniversary break. Found it hard to believe it only a three star hotel. Room was very comfortable and location good for getting out into St Peter Port. Above all the staff were all so helpful, friendly and efficient, without exception. Food in the bar and grill was very good and we were lucky to be able to attend the Wild Night evening held as part of the International Food Festival. A great break in a great hotel. Thanks to all the staff for your care and attention.

We were recommended by our friends who have stayed at The Havelet many times and we now can certainly understand why! We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, The Manager and his team, couldn't have been any more friendly and helpful. The staff, service, cleanliness and food were all first class. Our complimentary trip round the Island was thoroughly enjoyable, Bobby was very informative and entertaining. The choice of food was impressive and I particularly enjoyed the fish dishes. We will hopefully be returning next year and bringing fiends.

We went for a meal on Sunday. Food was great and the staff amazing. The restaurants x 2 at this hotel are both smart, relaxing places to eat. The view both restaurants overlook the harbour. A fantastic place to eat.

    « Simply the best! »

I have visited Guernsey on various occasions but this has to be 'the best'! The Manager and team are fantastic, I have been very impressed and will definitely return! I travel a fair amount but rarely find that 'personal touch' which is evident as soon as you step through the door here! Thank you!

« Excellent Hotel with great food. »

We stayed two nights and were made very comfortable and welcome. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We ate in both nights, once in the Wellington Boot restaurant and once in the Copenhagen brasserie. Both evening meals and breakfast, served in the Wellington Boot, were of a uniformly high standard, it's well worth eating in either of them The views from the Wellington Boot are stunning, ask for a window table if you can get one. The only slight niggle was that our room was advertised as a ?superior room with garden view?. It looked out over the inner courtyard garden, but the most noticeable and prominent feature was a fire escape from the floor above, which didn't quite meet my expectations. Still, we didn't spend a lot of time looking at it and it would be churlish to mark them down for that. We'd be happy to stay again, but might ask for a room with a better view next time.

« Relaxing place to stay »

Although situated in St Peter Port, this treasure of a hotel is nicely tucked away in a quiet location overlooking the harbour area but within easy walking distance of the town centre itself. The rooms are well appointed and equipped with everything a traveller could need, such as a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, tea/coffee making paraphernalia a TV and free wifi access. The beds are comfortable and the decor is both tasteful and fresh. Without exception, all of the staff were helpful and friendly. The food offered in both of the restaurants was of a very high standard and the ambience in both is relaxed and informal. I also feel that the breakfast offered deserves special merit. The range and choice of foods offered is to bo commended. I have stayed in larger establishments that do not come close to what is offered here. In summary, this is, in my opinion, an excellent, value for money hotel and one to which I plan a return visit, hopefully sooner rather than later.

« Fabulous setting and hotel »

I have just spent 4 days at Hotel De Havelet, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. I took my 10 year old son, my Mom & my best friend. Every morning my son & I enjoyed a swim before breakfast and I loved the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. The facilities were first class and breakfast was outstanding - so much choice and variety. We ended up trying out both restaurants for our evening meal during our stay and both were excellent. The manager and staff were all friendly and helpful. The views from the restaurant overlooking the castle were stunning. We will definitely be returning.

« Friendly staff. Pretty location. »

This is a comfortable hotel, in a good location. The communal areas are fine, although very traditional, which of course would be good for some; not so appealing to others. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I particularly liked the Copenhagen bar which was a little more contemporary in design and ambience and the garden was a lovely place to have a drink- great views! Breakfast was good. The hot food looked freshly cooked, although I didn't try it. The room was fine. I did wonder how a tall guy would manage with head height in the shower. It was okay for me as I'm 5'7 but I think a taller person might find it difficult. Would I return? Yes: for God location and friendly atmosphere!

    « Enjoyable stay »

I think this hotel deserves more that its official 3 star rating. We stayed in a standard room which was perfectly adequate for our visit as we spend most of our time outdoors. Minor complaint in that the bathroom steamed up as there was no extractor fan and the room may have been a bit warm in the height of summer without aircon. The pool area was very nice. Reception staff were very efficient and helped us with reservations for Victor Hugo's house and taxis. Clientele mostly elderly which we found gave a bit of a subdued atmosphered but pleased that the Copenhagen restaurant attracted a younger, more vibrant crowd from the town which was encouraging. We really liked the vibe in there, though it would seem some guests don't like the buzz - we did. Breakfasts were good, food in Copenhagen also good and portions were large. (Note: Prices in Guernsey are high, particularly when eating out, and I think many people from mainland UK find this so. I think it would be nice to be offered tap water and a basket of bread as a matter of course - applicable to all restaurants we ate in while there). Would recommend / return to this hotel.

« Nice hotel but let down by Bar and Dining areas »

I have been coming to this hotel at least 4 times a year for the last 10 years. Comfortable rooms but let down by poor servicing. Breakfast is served in the Wellington Boot restaurant, service could be better, staff not as smart as they used to be. The newly refurbed Copenhagen bar and grill does not fit in with the hotel. The grill area is very dark and noisy, very cramped and some people are choosing to eat in the bar, this means there is no space in the bar for hotel residents to sit and have a drink, when there are empty tables available in the grill. Open plan means whole area can be very noisy.

    « Disappointed »

Have stayed here many times over the Years and always made welcome by Staff and Management. Rooms have always been very good and very comfortable but unfortunately during this visit we did experience some issues with the Servicing and Cleanliness of our Room. Also experienced problems in the Bar area as there is no area for Hotel Residents to have a quite drink. Although these were dealt with by Sandis Zile the Assistant Manager they should not really be happening when somebody is paying £180+ per day for B&B. Would normally mark as 4/5 but can only give 3 on this occasion.

    5
    « An enjoyable 8 day stay »

Before booking we checked the hotel reviews, and with some minor exceptions to some points agree totally with them. It is an excellent establishment where we enjoyed our time, would recommend this to anyone and would certainly stay there if we went to Guernsey again - providing there are deals available (see comment later). This review is partly for prospective guests, and also, partly for the hotel management as an after-stay email from them asked for either this method or direct. I sent one direct but was not able to expand upon the (very) minor points where I felt they could have improved. We also completed a hard copy feedback form prior to departure. Frankly, most of the down side is only nitpicking, as without doubt it was one of the best 3 * hotels I have stayed in, let alone a Best Western one. I have no idea what facilities are necessary to move up a grade, but it can't be far away! Room I decided on the upgraded room (£20 a night extra) and it was well equipped, clean, comfortable and both well furnished and decorated. There are no sea view rooms at de Havelet but there was a pleasant view from the double window which was able to be opened fully - necessary in the climate we experienced as there is no air conditioning. I could not fault the room, with small fridge, good Wi-Fi, safe, two chairs with table and plenty of lights. Bathroom Recently refurbished by the look of it, with a window as well as extractor fan! All functional and nice looking, but a couple of things that I would have expected to have been reported by the cleaners (so I didn't do so) but none of them impacted upon our enjoyment or use of the facilities. Firstly the covering knob for the shower/bath water selection was detached from its plunger, and left for the 8 days laying on the bath side. The toilet was not fixed properly to the floor at one bolt, and the door needed 'easing' so as not to cause a noise when used at night. Hotel facilities. Can't fault anything, lovely pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi accompanied by reclining chairs both in the pool area and outside on the grass/veranda. Towels provided , with showers, toilets and changing rooms all in situ along with the daily papers and some magazines. Delightful lounge, elegant entrance hall to the house and pleasant reception area with an underground tunnel from reception into the bar and dining areas in time of bad weather. Staff Friendly, efficient and helpful throughout save one night in the main restaurant (Wellington Boot) where there was obviously something amiss and most had a long wait that lead to some getting cold food, and another in the Copenhagen when it was very busy and some staff could seemingly not cope unless specifically directed to take on tasks. If you have the chance to do a (free) island tour with Bobby, the knowledgeable shuttle driver it is well worth doing, and his service was very useful with the hilltop (almost) location. Not a place for someone who wants to go into St Peter Port or further by public transport or has restricted mobility, but hard work for others who don't want to use a taxi although the shuttle is very good if a little restricted during the afternoon and not available on a Sunday. Food Generally excellent with plenty of choice, a good standard, and well presented. Plenty of choice for drinks if somewhat pricey but probably on a par with most of the other establishments in Guernsey. Many people complained that the portions were too large, but I would have liked to have seen a greater variety that did not have a lot of cream or fat in the preparation cooking and there was a distinct lack of white meat although plenty of fish - again probably indicative of an island hotel? Overall then, a really nice hotel and worthy of the rave reviews it gets. However, I do wish people could be up front as during my stay the General Manager was on holiday - yet a couple of reviews made during that time have replies on Trip Advisor from him. The Assistant Manager was superb, even if he and many others trotted out the same words of platitude with regular monotony. If there was a problem during my time there (mentioned earlier) I am sure all guests would have understood rather than be left in mid air wondering why they were not getting their food. It wasn't the fault of the waiters but no doubt they bore the brunt of comments although most of us had a bit of a laugh about it afterwards. Cost. High for any 3* hotel, and when one looks at the offers available for October it is almost half the price of September. I was fortunate to receive the half board for the price of B&B which made it palatable (no pun intended) but even at 10% discount which was the other offer, I think it too expensive for what it is - but that is my own judgement based on other places I have stayed in. Perhaps the Channel Islands prices in general are higher than the mainland and although my last three stays have been in Best Westerns and this was by far the best, I still feel the same. I guess you get what you pay for but on this occasion I certainly did not feel cheated despite the charges!

« Enjoyable stay at the de Havelet Hotel »

I stayed for 4 nights late August/ early September in a superior room with pretty views over the garden. The room was very quiet. The staff were polite and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious. I also enjoyed swimming in the pool. Would be happy to stay again.

« Short Break in Guernsey »

We stayed here Bank Holiday Weekend. The staff were excellent and very polite & helpful all round the property. The head receptionist was very good. The bar area was modern and comfortable with a restaurant off the side. We ate upstairs and had an OK meal. The room was comfortable if a little dated. The pool area is well maintained with a small sauna and steam room. There are many steps on the premises and the hotel is at the top of a steep hill. If you turn up the hill out of the premises and follow the hill down into town it is shallower and longer with a couple of pubs (next to each other) which are worth a stop. We walked it every time and didn't use the shuttle. Not that bad once you've done it. Overall would recommend staying here.

« First Class Hotel on the edge of St Peter Port »

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and were very pleased with the hotel which is well maintained with friendly and helpful staff. We had a superior room with a lovely view over the harbour. The restaurant was good for dinner and there was a nice selection at breakfast but they couldn't cook porridge properly - the only reason I have not given maximum score for this hotel. Everything else was top notch. If you are driving, you need to approach from the bottom of the Val des Terres. We drove in from the top and it was the narrowest passage I have ever driven through with plenty of scrapes on the walls. There is a courtesy shuttle bus into town which is handy if you want to go to Herm or Sark on the boats.

« Another wonderful stay at the de Havelet »

This is an excellent hotel with superb amenities and wonderful, welcoming staff. The superior rooms have all one would wish for and the food - all meals, including breakfast, are exceptional. We have stayed here often and will do so again soon - and years to come. Well done to all the Management and staff at the de Havelet - you ake us most welcome.

    « A true Gem »

Had no Pre conceptions about this hotel as I was travelling here on business. What a lovely surprise. Well kept hotel. Lovely staff. Swimming pool and jacuzzi. Spacious rooms and two fantastic restaurants on site. My only reservation would be the hill you have to walk up to get to it. It's very steep and not well suited for elderly or less able. Having said that, the hotel runs a shuttle bus (free) to the town at various times in the morning from 9am and at 5.30 in the evening. Taxis in the town are not easy to find as the normal busses do not climb the hill to the hotel. Apart from that. Lovely hotel. Lovely views across the harbour too

« A very nice hotel with excellent staff »

It has been our best experience on our trip to the Cannel Islands! The location is very nice above the port and the noisy main street of St Peter Port. The room has been very nice, large enough for our stay (8 nights) and always kept cleen and tidy. The staff was good to excellent, even the new staff members arriving from many different places all over Europe. If you stay in the hotel and the weather is nice to sit on the verana, order an afternoon tea "deluxe" and enjoy ... there is nothing more to say. Thank you Gennaro, you do an excellent job!

« Far exceeds the expectation of a 3* hotel »

Absolutely lovely hotel, with very good accommodation and beautiful views over the castle and the ocean.Situated high above St Peter Port it is ideally located, with ample parking and extremely good restaurants for both breakfast and daytime/evening meals. We had breakfast , afternoon tea and evening meals on different occasions and all were memorable. The food and service in the restaurant is far better than any other hotel we have visited on the island. We ate in the Wellington and Copenhagen restaurants located on site and they were truly excellent. The on-site indoor pool was clean and relaxing. The outdoor seating area outside the main house an ideal place to sit, relax and have afternoon or a cream tea. We can not fault the whole experience and the friendliness and help we we were offered by all staff was what you would expect from a 5* hotel. We would truly recommend the De Havlet !

« One of the best hotels anywhere. »

My wife and I stayed for a week for our Silver Wedding anniversary. We had a superior room which was clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet on the ground floor. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Both restaurants (Copenhagen and Wellington) were excellent for service, quality and choice of food. The hotel is a short, steep walk into St Peter Port and very convenient for the bus station (bus drivers very helpful). A special mention must go to Attila (Restaurant Manager) for leading a great guided bike ride through the quiet lanes around the island. We hope to re-visit in the future.

« An amazing level of service in a beautifully situated hotel »

This is our second consecutive visit to this hotel and we were not disappointed. From the warm welcome at reception to the high quality service at meal times this place is what holidays were made for! There is a huge range on offer at breakfast and again in the evening and this year we had the opportunity to sample the recently refurbished "Copenhagen" bar and grill downstairs. We loved this as it had the same modern feel as the Reception area and our room with music to match. (Although music and decor are, of course, up to personal taste, we found both of these in the upstairs restaurant a bit dated although the view is spectacular.) All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean including the pool area and we felt that internet access was better this year as we could access it in our room rather than having to use the computer downstairs. The staff here are, without exception, highly professional yet they manage to remain un-stuffy which has made us feel so welcome on both visits. We made the most of the complimentary bus tour to see the island and appreciated Attila the restaurant manager taking us out on hotel loaned bikes for a three hour ride. We really can't recommend this hotel highly enough and are pleased that both trip advisor itself and "Best Western" have acknowledged this in the form of various awards. Long may this continue!

« THE YES THE HOTEL TO STAY IN GUERNSEY »

Having breakfast over the wonderful view to the island of Herm is one memory that will stay with any resident. This wonderful hotel just oozes class. This was our 2nd stay at the Havelet. We'll be back .

    « Brilliant Stay »

This was our third holiday at the de Havelet and it was once again superb! From the cleanliness to the amenities and the excellent staff, our stay was spot on. A big thank you to Gennaro and his staff.

« Wonderful week on this beautiful Island »

We stayed at the Hotel Du Havelet for a week at the end of July, beginning of August. We had a room in the quadrant on the lower level. The room was nicely decorated, clean and cool. A bit too cool on the chillest day as we didn't have the best weather, but a few minutes with the radiator on soon warmed it up. The room was quiet and the bed very spacious and comfortable. We had a fridge and full tea and coffee making facilities. Bottled water was supplied on the first day, but not on subsequent days. However, there is a water cooler in the swimming pool area where we topped up on a regular basis. We went B&B and were very pleased with the breakfast. You have a full choice of continental with the option to chose a cooked breakfast from an extensive menu. They even supply champagne at breakfast for just £3 a glass if you fancy treating yourself. Breakfast is served until 10am, so you don't have to drag yourself out of bed at dawn to enjoy a leisurely dining experience. The leisure facilities were excellent, with an indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, Steam-room and Sauna. Towels are provided. We were very lucky as there were never more than a couple of people using the facilities at the same time as us. There is a shower poolside with more in the changing area. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for them. We are not sure if the hotel is particularly young family friendly as we noticed that there were no children staying during the period we were there. The hotel is very close to the town of St Peter Port, but situated half way up a steep hill. This was fine for the younger ones in our group, but would have been too much for the elderly. All in all we had a very enjoyable and comfortable experience and would happily stay there again.

« Ok but not fantastic »

Went to the Copenhagen bar for afternoon tea. They have completely remodeled the area and the decor is very nice. The food came with a good range of sandwiches snd cakes but the service was quite slow. We asked to take what cakes we could not eat home and we left with them wrapped in foil. However we were surprised when we arrived home later to find that for some reason they had only included some of the cakes we left. We don't know what happened to the rest. It was a pleasant enough experience but I would say there are better venues on the island for afternoon tea.

« Staff take pride in helping guests »

Having stayed at this hotel for many years, I am often worried that my next stay will not be as good as my last. The Hotel de Havelet and its fantastic staff, however, always manage to make the current stay better than the ones before. The staff take a great pride in working at the hotel and this shows in the attention to detail and level of attentive service they give. They are justifiably proud of their Best Western and TripAdvisor awards and obviously want to keep hold of them year on year. The Copenhagen bar and grill has been a well judged and brilliantly executed remodelling and face-lift to the 'Saddle Bar' it replaced and has breathed fresh life into the hotel's bar and restaurant offering. Lunchtime and evening menus offer a choice of well cooked and delicious foods - which you can watch being prepared by the chefs through a glass wall at one end of the restaurant. There are several different menus to choose from and if you want something from the Wellington Boot Restaurant while eating in the Copenhagen, or visa versa, the staff are more than happy to oblige. The breakfast menu is one of the best I have seen anywhere - including expensive London Hotels with Michelin * restaurants. The main hotel is a period building - Duke of Wellington visited his mistress in the house - so creaking floorboards add to the charm. There are more modern room built around a courtyard and swimming pool if that is the kind of room you prefer. If you want modern corporate blandness and mediocrity, this may not be the place for you. If you want service second-to none, great food, great views and comfortable rooms, book now!

    « Exceptional staff and a "hands on"manager »

First time at this hotel and already discussing our return. The highlights were the caring and professional staff and the Copenhagen food and reception staff. Our Superior room and bathroom were large and thoughtfully equipped with a few little extras (mints, fudge, etc.). We had a problem with water pressure to the shower at peak times but this was largely resolved by the end of our stay with improvement every day and a manager who was closely involved in resolving the issue. A must is to book the Copenhagen restaurant as it is popular with guests and locals and the food is some of the best in the area. The high rating is deserved as everyone went out of their way to ensure our stay was so enjoyable. Well done staff and Gennaro-the manager!

    « Great up grade »

Had a very pleasant stay at this hotel . We were upgraded to the room over the porch as shown on the photo. A fabulous little restaurant at the hotel which most of the guests used daily. Great food and wonderful staff. Just missed having air con but otherwise a lovely stay in a lovely hotel. PS I think the main hall way needs a new paint job on the ceiling. The 'clouds' looked like psoriasis ( a with a bit that that looks like it is inflamed ! Redecorate that hall way ... It could be tasteful!

« my hotel de havelet »

This was a lovely hotel, the room was excellent as we had our own access door to the room from the outside. The breakfast was both continental and full English and the service and view were excellent. We ate in the hotel every night as the hill was too much for us to climb. We ate in the Copenhagen restaurant every night and it was top quality. The hotel provided a mini bus to drop you into town every morning except Sunday.

« Old Fashioned High Quality Service »

Staff were excellent throughout the hotel. Room was on top floor. Very clean, with bath over shower, tea making facilities and in-room internet. Breakfast quality and choice was excellent. Love the coffee. Nice pool with sauna.

    « Lovely birthday treat »

We stayed at the Hotel De Havelet for a weekend break to celebrate my birthday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, all keen to ensure we were having a good stay. We ate in the restaurant which was very good value and had one of the best fruit de mar dishes I've ever had. The restaurant has a lovely view over the water too.

    « Excellent Hotel »

We stayed here for a week on Bed and breakfast but when faced with the hiily approach decided to have dinner at the hotel each night. This proved to be a good decision as the food and service in both restaurants is first class. The hotel facilities are slightly better than the average 3 star hotel and very comfortable and clean. One downside was the shower performance which at busy times failed to produce very little water flow and wildly varying temperatures. We did complain about this but were told that on testing everything was OK.We solved the problem by taking later showers than the other Guests. The Hotel offers a free Island tour twice a week which was excellent but you would need to book on registering as the mini bus serves 3 Hotels and is fills up quickly. Overall an enjoyable experience.

« How could it be better??? »

From the first moment we arrived we knew that this hotel would be perfect. The setting is good, being on a hill, so that it overlooks the port. A big view of the sea is obscured by the foliage, so this is more a hint of sea. Good view of the port's fireworks. Every staff member, with no exception is just plain nice - a word which means very little nowadays, except as a British understatement. However, the staff here show the meaning of the word in its original sense- as an ideal at which to aim! Everyone, from to bottom of the hierarchy would stop and chat to us, as if we were from their own home. This creates a very relaxed atmosphere. The bedrooms were large and quiet. An exceptional touch was that there was a bank of sockets for personal use, so no more hunting around and rotating the single socket normally provided. Chocolate bed turn down service of course. The leisure pool comes with sauna and steam room, as well as its own garden area. Fresh towels readily on tap. Breakfast was excellent, with good portions of fresh cooked English, and with scarily creamy local milk and butter. Main meals were excellent, giving no good reason to eat elsewhere. Our four day trip was too brief - we need to come back next year for ten days at least, to give us a chance to rest in the hotel, and forget seeing the rest of Guernsey.

« Idyllic hotel in a beautiful location »

A must . This lovely hotel has so much to offer Location with lovely views of the castle and sea, very friendly staff to compliment the very homely surroundings The rooms are all very clean and each has its own character. We stayed in a large double with views of the pool/ garden. The whole ambience is very tranquil Breakfast there is a very ample choice from continental to a variety of cooked dishes served on the first floor of the hotel with view of the castle and sea We always stay here and as I grew up on the island it is a treat to come back and stay here Thankyou to all the staff for making ourvstaybso welcoming and special T

« Brilliant, but not for disabled ! »

This is one of the best hotels we've visited anywhere! Unfortunately, my wife is slightly disabled, making excessive walking and climbing stairs a chore! It seems the whole of Guernsey doesn't give the same priorities to disabled people as we do on the mainland. If I didn't know better I would say that steps and sloping roads were invented in St. Peter Port. To drive in St.Peter Port can be nightmare, one way streets everywhere. I suggested at the hotel a local highway code should be issued to all car drivers. There are very few traffic islands just lines on the roads, priority is give to those with the most patience and the broadest smiles. And when can I drive on the pavement to avoid oncoming cars? All that said, The traffic wardens are generous to 'blue-badge' holders. You can park free just about anywhere!!! There are areas of the island towards the north and west that are flat, allowing easy access to the beaches and buildings. St. Peter Port is a lovely town; interesting shops, restaurants, museums and things to do when on holiday, despite what some people say about Guernsey who have never been there. The people here are great, friendly, helpful and strangely polite. The HOTEL De HAVELET is faultless! Manned by people from mainland Europe: Portugal, France, Italy, Poland, Holland, Bulgaria, Latvia etc and they all speak good English. It's easy to believe you're holidaying in mainland Europe, very interesting! A little gem is Bobby the hotel bus driver (American). He's an encyclopedia! A great character with a sense of humor dried in the island sun. His free island bus tour happens twice a week, don't miss it. The hotel itself is a listed building, which means they can't install a lift (once again, common sense takes vacation). We had room 3, a lovely room on the same level as the entrance and reception. It has good size bathroom with a bath and a corner shower cubicle. Just take your own grab rails! The bed was large in spacious room with plenty of storage space. Access to other parts of the hotel can be a problem. Two flights of stairs to the indoor swimming pool, which is excellent - not forgetting the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The main restaurant and breakfast room is only accessible via a flight of stairs, although, there is the downstairs brasserie. There are easily accessible outside seating areas for relaxing and eating. Lounge areas withing the hotel are beautiful, there is also the hotel computer free to use by guests and free wi-fi. The food at the hotel is superb, including the buffet breakfast. Cooked breakfasts are freshly cooked and brought to the table. No more congealed eggs or luke warm sausages. Kippers and Salmon dishes are also available. This is the only hotel I've been in where they have cheese and biscuits trolley instead of a sweets trolley. Cool or what! PLACES TO VISIT: Victor Hugo's house- A must for all culture vultures. Nothing has changed since he left in 1870. He was here on the island for 15 years where he wrote Le Miserable, plus others. A useful point- it's free for disabled and their helpers. Very, very interesting. Castle Cornet out a limb from St. Peter Port: definitely worth a visit, even only to avoid rain storms. Lots of history, guns and steps. The National Trust Victorian shop- Sweets like they used to be. Interesting for the kids. You might as well rot their teeth whilst looking at history! Corner of Coupdee Lane. My favourite eating place was The Cornerstone Pub. A walk up the hill from the Town Church will find you there, and not far from the Victorian shop. A good selection of real ales and euro-fizz lagers. The food is exceptional. The first time I had a 'cheese ploughman'- I had to bring most of the blue-vein cheese back to the hotel, it took two days to consume. Apart from wonderful food the atmosphere is also great. Don't miss it!! Easter Village restaurant: near Tourist Information office. Good views and very good food. Three courses for £13.75. Another gastric goody is the 'Boathouse' near the marina. Outside seating available. Fish dishes here are wonderful, especially the fish pie.!!! If you have two good legs, go for it. It's a wonderful experience.

    « A very enjoyable stay »

We wanted a hotel on the edge of St Peter's Port and this one fitted our needs perfectly. If you are walking back from the town, it is a bit of a climb but the views from the bar and restaurant make it worthwhile. The room was very comfortable but it was difficult to cool it down on a very hot night. You do not appreciate air conditioning until you do not have it! The bar and restaurant were both very good and breakfast had a good choice of cold buffet and freshly cooked hot food.we found all the staff attentive and extremely helpful. If we return to Guernsey, I am sure we will return to this hotel.

    « Very good hotel »

Stayed here in July for a week wasn't sure about the trip advisor rating but had nothing to worry about. It is an excellent hotel and would like to recommend it. The room was very good, clean and adequate. We went B&B but had no problems getting a table for dinner in Copenhagen restaurant

    « Outstanding »

We booked a romantic break with champagne, chocolates, and fresh fruit in our room as well as robes. The hotel, the staff, the food and the views of the bay are wonderful. From reception through to the waiting staff, maids and senior management everyone was attentive and helpful. The shuttle bus in the morning to town as very useful as it enabled us to catch an early boat to Sark. Even the hill, walking back up from town usefully gave us exercise in advance of dinners to die for. Cannot recommend the hotel enough.

« Not sure what all the fuss is »

While this hotel is perfectly clean(apart from the Windows) and tidy I struggle to see what the fuss is about. My room 14 had a fridge that would stop/start all night long, constant footsteps both outside my room and from above. And as others have said it's very tired and somewhat dated. It is not my intention to be hard on the hotel but when you pay £140+ per night I would expect better. This hotel is the same price bracket as St Pier Park unfortunately SPP is in another league compared to this rather run down guest house. You must also be aware that the hotel sits a little way outside St. Peter port and it is far from an easy walk(although they do provide a shuttle bus). The breakfast was of a good standard but dirty cups puts me off. I would say that the view over castle Cornet was spectacular if the windows had been clean enough to enjoy it. The one upside is that the Copenhagen bar and grill is very good and will be reviewed separately.

    « Excellent stay. »

Difficult to fault anything! The room (No 27) was excellent, and the balcony with a view out to sea was an unexpected bonus. Special mention must go to all the restaurant staff, from management to the trainees, all of whom were exceptional in their duties and professionalism. Food was excellent, too! Would highly recommend it.

    « First class hotel »

Having visited many UK hotels over the years, I can honestly say that this the best experience ever. The facilities, service surroundings and food were all better than expected. The staff were excellent in an unobtrusive way and everything in the room worked which is a rare occurrence. The attention to detail by the staff in all aspects was welcome. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel - first class in every way. »

Just back from 5 nights at this wonderful hotel. The view is stunning, although there is rather a steep hill up to it. Rooms are modern, clean and cosy. We were breakfast only and this was also perfect. Everything cooked fresh to order and large variety of cereals, meats, bread etc. We didn't have any evening meals in the hotel but the restaurant was always very busy with locals - a good sign! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent hotel and would go again.

    « Great holiday hotel »

Just returned from a weeks holiday in Guernsey. The hotel was great - very clean and nice decor. Staff were all very efficient and very friendly - especially in the restaurant. Lovely views of the sea from the restaurant. Food was excellent and nicely presented. We booked a holiday package where we got evening meals for half price. We also had the option to eat at either of the sister hotels whilst we were there, but we enjoyed the meals so much that we didn't bother to try anywhere else. Rooms were a good size with very large beds and plenty of storage space. Only down side is that the hotel is near the top of a hill above St Peter Port, but they do lay on a courtesy bus at certain times.

« Amazing hotel with amazing views! »

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at this hotel and cannot praise it enough! From the very comfortable spacious bedrooms to the the fantastic food in the hotels 2 restaurants, if you want a relaxing stay in a beautiful location this hotel is for you. All the staff make you feel very welcome but special mention goes to DIana, Ivan and Jose in the Copenhagen, always service with a smile and no request is too much trouble. Bobbys complementary island tour is excellent, very informative and enjoyable. Gennaro, the hotel manager, is always in attendance making sure his guests are happy. We will definitely return to this hotel.

    « A really good hotel »

We have just returned from 6 great nights at the Havelet. We had a good quiet room, with large super king comfortable bed, in a small extension to the main mansion. The staff and management were exceptionally attentive and helpful. My only one small criticism is that some of the staff were fairly new and their understanding of English and their job occasionally had it's limitations. Although we only booked B&B, we choose to eat at the hotel as the food was of good quality and value. The hotel is in a quiet location, on a very steep hill overlooking the sea front and town, which gave it excellent views. They have a limited free shuttle service to the town, otherwise you need to be fit or rely on taxi's. They also offer free tours round the Guernsey twice a week, but you need to book in advance as we found the one while we were there was full. They also had a good pool and leisure area. We would have no doubts about staying there again or recommending it to anyone.

    5
    « Perfection »

The ultimate in comfort, good food and excellent service, we felt very welcome throughout out stay. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were all very efficient without being intrusive. The Hotel had a quiet elegance about it, and it was obvious the Manager and all his team really cared that you were having a good stay.

    « Favourite new hotel. »

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights recently. It's a fabulous hotel and we're thinking of going back again later in the year. Apart from the hotel itself, what impressed me most were the staff. Every staff member we met went over and beyond our expectations. Thank you all very much for a wonderful stay.

    « Brilliant Hotel »

Another 7 day holiday at the De Havelet and very satisfied. Food, service, staff, room and leisure facilities all excellent. Food in the new restaurant was very very good although I missed the option of being able to just get a simple bar meal or sandwich and a relaxing bar just for a drink.

« Great place to stay and the food is fabulous »

We stayed at Hotel De Havelet in March 2016. We booked it due to the positive reports on Trip Advisor. We weren't disappointed. The staff are attentive and extremely friendly and as it's a family run hotel (although you wouldn't believe it) there is great attention to detail. There really is no need to dine outside of the hotel as the hotel restaurant is excellent. I had steak cooked at my table to order. The spa, swimming pool sauna etc is well maintained and very peaceful. This hotel is great for a short break away from everything. If all you want to do is chill then this is the place to do it.

    5
    « Quite Superb! »

This may be a three star hotel but it's 5 star in many respects. From the initial welcome to leaving the whole experience is excellent. The waiting staff both at breakfast & on the 2 occasions when we had dinner in the hotel are superb, efficient & friendly. Breakfast is a vast choice of hot & cold food, more than enough for the day ahead. The rooms are very good, not massive, but very comfortable. There's a very steep hill from the town up to the hotel, we managed it 80% of the time but use the hotel mini bus down to town in the day & get a taxi at night, & that will help! The food in the Wellington Boot was very good & I have reviewed that separately. We certainly plan to return to a lovely island & lovely hotel.

    5
« Great place to stay »

Location is perfect, within walking distance to city center. Pool, and saunas are available early and late. We loved bed and pillows. Reception is friendly and ready to help French visitors with electric plug adapters, or reservation to Victor Hugo house. Wifi works from room too!

« A very enjoyable stay at an excellent hotel »

Great hotel, excellent food with very helpful and friendly staff. The fact that its restaurant is heavily frequented by the locals says it all. A resident's bar within the hotel itself would be a useful addition though as, because of its popularity, the separate restaurant / bar complex was very busy in an evening and hence a quiet drink at the bar was almost an impossibility. Its also a bit of a hike back up from town but the views compensate for that. Will definitely stay again when we next visit Guernsey.

    4
    « De Havelet Hotel »

consistent service and comfort standards plus the added bonus of a lovely indoor pool make this the hotel of choice for all my visits to Guernsey on business. The newly refurbished bar area makes the whole experience even more appealing.

    5
« Love this place it just keeps getting better »

We regularly stay here. The Hotel feels like a home from home - the staff are all friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a good choice of quality food (we usually go half board because of this) and the new Bistro / Bar is modern and well worth a visit. We were delighted to find the restaurant has put an old favourite back on the menu - steak Diane - yummmmmm......

    « Lovely People »

Fantastic stay at this hotel. Very polite, welcoming and courteous staff. Manager took the time to introduce himself. Nothing was too much to ask. Hotel itself is in a very nice setting. Restaurant food and service was excellent, value for money was excellent. Will not hesitate in visiting again.

« Commemorating Liberation Day, while visiting in pre-war cars »

Being part of The Bean Car Club's recent tour to this lovely island, meant we discovered this lovely hotel. All the members of our party enjoyed the stay in the De Havelet, comfortable ensuite rooms, excellent dining, a lovely spa and attentive friendly and helpful staff what more could we ask. They went out of their way to arrange functions and support our group activities during our happy stay.

« Great hotel with popular restaurant »

Enjoyed a very good stay at the de Havelet. The hotel staff were all excellent: welcoming and helpful whether preparing the rooms or serving delicious meals. The hotel is in a commanding position for views of the harbour and beyond from the terrace or public rooms, although our bedroom did not have a seaview but was extremely comfortable and well appointed. Meals are served in the hotel restaurant on the first floor of the annex, but there is also a very popular restaurant and bar on the ground floor of the annex, and although the annex is a separate building it is linked by a tunnel from the hotel, so it is easy to avoid any bad weather.

    « Lovely week away. »

If you going to Guernsey you must stay here. With stunning views at breakfast, fabulous food, spotless rooms and excellent service from all of the staff, there are very few improvements that need to be made. This turned out to be an excellent choice and very worthy of the number one rating on the island.

    5
    « Excellent Customer Service »

Having stayed here 8 years ago, the hotel is almost unrecognisable! The new look is much better and worthy of 4 star rating! The staff were outstanding and couldn't have been more polite/helpful. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. The views across the bay are postcard worthy. I really can't recommend this hotel enough!

    « A very well run hotel »

After spending half an hour trying to find the hotel due to unclear directions from ma thrid party, it was good to arrive and have a very efficient registration. The hotel is well equipped, clean and well run. The rooms are what is expected from Best Western and ideally suited to a short holiday break. Problems with the radiator thermostatic valve were dealt with efficiently and effectively. The food and service is good if at times, a little over-attentive (which can't be bad!) and the prices about as expected. We would stay here again but the climb from the seafront is a little daunting...

« Francis and Isabelle McCrea »

What a most beautiful place to visit, and if you want to be made to feel very special, this is the place to stay when visiting Guernsey Island. The general manager takes a vested and personal interest in ensuring your stay is the best it can be. The chef was commendable, and the bar and restaurant staff were very attentive. Thank you for making our stay with you a memorable and enjoyable one!!

« Excellent vintage Car base »

The Bean Car Club based themselves here for a 5 night break around the 2016 Liberation weekend. The parking was good for our vintage cars and the rooms very comfortable. The view from the Wellington Boot restaurant was spectacular with good food and excellent service. The hotel runs a courtesy bus down to the town from the Hotel and whilst we were on a half board tariff there was an exchange eating plan available with the two other sister hotels in St Peters port (Moores Central and Les Rocquettes). The heated pool and Jacuzzi was most welcome each evening. The walk into town took about 15 minutes and a bit longer coming back up the hill.

    5
« Another Best Western gem. »

The hotel is in a great location, overlooking the Fort in St Peter Port, great for watching the Liberation fireworks. The staff are extremely customer-focussed - there aren't any hotels that I have stayed in where the manager and his assistant visit every table at dinner to check everything is OK. The room was extremely comfortable, quiet, and at the back of the hotel.

« First trip to Guernsey »

An excellent two nights in very well appointed hotel with excellent staff, nice lounge and restaurant with first class food. Room was very comfortable with private balcony overlooking internal courtyard and close to amenities.

    « Another Visit »

Another visit here to find that nothing has changed in the Hotel but a big change at the former Saddlebar area. Downstairs here there is just the one area with new bar and restaurant.Very smart (Copenhagen bar and grill) Also there is now a large covered patio area by the entrance to the Hotel. The rooms were renovated a little while ago so remain the same as does the main reception area and swimming pool. All the staff are as friendly and welcoming, even the new ones we had not met before. A mention must be made of Bobby the minibus driver who takes you up/down the hill if you wish and does the interesting free Island tour.

    « Frequent visitors. »

We visit Guernsey regularly and stay at the Hotel De Havelet each time we visit. The rooms are comfortable and exceptionally well serviced. Staff are helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Clearly, all work as part of a team. The hotel has amazing views over the harbour and Castle Cornet. Obviously the downside is the hill to get up to see these views! However, taxis are relatively cheap if no car and the legs not up to it! Facilities are first class, lovely clean pool area. A recently refurbished bar area is very light with views and a lovely outside eating area both on the terrace and the new outside seating area at the front. Food remains first class in both the new bistro and the Wellington. The new bar menu provides variety but it does not provide a simple sandwich of any kind. Notably, the traditional Guernsey crab sandwich. ?Not sure re the crab on avocado and toast. However, Mohammed continues to excel in the Wellington and I recommend the scallops in the bistro. We look forward to returning again in the summer.

« We will be back »

My wife and I have just returned from a four night stay at this excellent hotel. The location is good and the staff most friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice and kept clean. Overall a great stay and we will certainly return on our next visit to Guernsey.

« Very comfortable hotel with lovely decor, and a good location »

The bedroom & bathroom was beautifully prepared, so clean and polished. Very comfortable 6' double bed. The staff throughout the hotel are charming and helpful. The Wellington restaurant is lovely. The breakfast with a view over St Peter Port Harbour. Quality food with numerous choices for breakfast. The dinner in the evening was delicious. Shame we were charged £7 for a bottle of sparkling water. Lovely indoor swimming pool.

    5
    « Excellent Again! »

We have been visiting the hotel annually for about 6 or 7 years and every stay has been excellent with standards remaining high. Gennaro, Sandis and their staff have a winning formula - they work as a team to ensure that all guests enjoy their stay and nothing is too much trouble for them. Everyone is so friendly and it feels like coming home when you arrive at the hotel. The food in the Wellington Boot restaurant could not be improved upon, both at breakfast and in the evening. This year, all guests dine for one evening in the new Copenhagen restaurant, which has a more bistro/casual feel and has been beautifully furnished. Gennaro's brother and his team provided excellent food which was well presented and served. You will not find a better hotel in Guernsey. We look forward to our next visit.

    « Second visit. »

We have just returned from our second visit to the De Havelet and it was even better than the first, which we did not think possible. The whole hotel is very well presented, comfortable and very clean. We stayed in room 20 and were very impressed with how clean and comfortable it was. It was that clean that we think it may have just been refurbished. The wine, grapes and fudge were a very nice touch and all were very much appreciated. Another nice touch was the coffee machine that was in the room. We were also supplied with slippers and a dressing gown. The dressing gown was very handy for going to the swimming pool. We ate both in the Wellington Restaurant and The Copenhagen and the food in both was very well presented and very tasty. The sirloin steak in the Wellington was again superb. I may well be back next year for another steak meal. Both the Wellington and the Copenhagen are very popular with locals, which is always a good sign. They both get very busy so it' is best to book in advance. We used the swimming pool and 2 occasions and again it was a clean area. On both occasions there were not too many people using the facilities. All of the guys who work there are very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to make our visit a very good visit. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Would we recommend this hotel to friends and family ? yes. Would we stay there again ? a very big yes

Everyone at the hotel was so helpful and friendly. The new cosmopolitan bar and restaurant was fabulous. Breakfast superb with lots of selections to suit your taste and hunger. Walking distance in to the port. Everything I needed.

Booked a surprise trip for my wife's birthday. Staff and management were faultless. Thanks to ' vet' at reception for arranging surprise gifts in room on arrival. Nothing was to much trouble from the cleaning staff up to senior management in the hotel and restaurant .Would recommend this hotel without hesitation. We felt that the cost was excellent value for such high standards and will be visiting again in the future.

Staff could not have been more helpful. Quality of food, room and service all excellent. Our trip was made even more memorable when a free bottle of wine appeared at the dinner table as the staff had learned it was my birthday. A lovely thought. Thank you.

« Cannot praise this hotel more highly »

Excellent stay. Worthy of being the Trip Advisor Guernsey leader. Staff friendly and helpful. Food good. Refurbished bar now open. Front room, recently refurbished, excellent. It's not often that I eulogise about a hotel, but this one was special.

Great hotel, excellent location and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great things to come, refurbished bar and restaurant, unable to enjoy it on this occasion, work still in progress, looking forward to enjoying all on our return.

    « Lovely Holiday »

Spent a week here at the end of March. Room - very comfortable, plenty of tea, coffee, chocolates and biscuits. Large flat screen television and a radio. Spacious comfortable bed with quality bed linen. Trouser press, iron and ironing board. Free wifi. Fridge to put your own food and drinks in. Bathroom - Spotlessly clean with cabinet to put toiletries in. Shower over bath. Good quality towels. We hired 2 dressing gowns and slippers for the week (£5.00 each) as we wanted to use the pool facilities. Dining - Excellent quality food, varied menu and attentive staff. We will definitely be returning.

First Class ! The hotel is in a really nice location, close enough to town to walk to the centre in under 10 minutes (even for oldies like us), and if you can't do that there is a complimentary bus. Far enough in the outskirts to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lovely place. Very attentive but not "over the top" service in the restuarant, with excellent quality of food and a menu which changes daily offering an excellent range of choices. Lovely rooms and a very nice swimming pool. Very helpful and attentive management and Reception staff. As someone who has stayed in many hotels over many years of traveling, I recognise and rate this hotel very highly.

    « ok »

This hotel has great reviews but to me it seemed not that better than a Premier Inn... i went in late march 2016 and i was offered a room that had no view, little natural light and a squeaky ceiling from the occupants above. i just thought that like independent hotels i would have been given a better room during their low season, to give me a taste of what it could be liked. Instead i got what i paid for... the staff by the way are very attentive and good at their job, but there seems to be a feeling that they are grander than they are.... the standard of the restaurant food was acceptable but not exceptional, bread with your starters for example was given one slice at a time... once you had finished one they were back over to offer you another.. unnecessary in my book.... the major question is would i stay here again??.. the answer is no.... you get the bare minimum, too much like every other Best Western... maybe i have been spoilt by independents that are different and more personal.... having said all that, teh staff are great and perform well given the constraints that they work under.

« Best food. Best service. »

It's just like the UK was 25 years ago. Impeccable service. Fantastic high quality food. Wonderfully views. The most perfect break we have had for many years. Every thing you could ever wish for. Even a free island tour.

    « Excellent hotel »

This hotel was absolutely fantastic. The staff were so polite and always ready to help in any way. They made our stay a wonderful experience and we would certainly go back again. The food was delicious. There were some alterations being done to the bar during our stay but they had little impact.

« Interesting place and building, friendly staff »

At the top of a steep hill, with amazing views, the hotel is an older building with an interesting history. The staff were very friendly and because it was quiet we got upgraded to a superior room. There were renovations being carried out and the plans look lovely. Pleasant stay, good value and would go back. But it is a steep slope to walk up to from the port, so a taxi or be prepared.

    « Wonderful short break »

First visit to Guernsey , this hotel is really nice, it was spotless and welcoming as were the staff who did everything to make our stay special. We stayed in room 28 which had view over harbour and was roomy with nice extras , bathroom more than ample and very clean. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was freshly cooked to order, dinner was lovely with plenty of choices again served hot and freshly cooked . Although situated on a hill with lovely views it's a steep walk back , but if you stop for a rest it's ok. Even though work was being done on restaurant we were not disturbed . This a lovely hotel with exceptional staff and we will definitely stay again

« Heavenly Havelet part deux »

Having stayed at the Havelet in October last year, and having had a fabulous experience we decided to return this month. Absolutely everything was as good as last year. All the staff were extremely helpful and seemed genuinely happy to help. The food really was first class, a 4* experience in a 3* hotel; please see the photos. There is a swimming pool and jacuzzi at the hotel which we used this time which was well maintained and clean Our room was spectacular, again please see the photos. There was some improvement activity going on and we were warned of it, but this work did not affect the holiday. One point to remember is it is advisable to have a hire car as the hotel is up a steep hill; there is plenty of free parking and a wonderful view from the restaurant. Thank you for an enjoyable stay; we will return; you deserve your 5*

    « Exceeding expectations »

The highlight of the Hotel de Havelet is the friendly and attentive service offered by all the staff. Located on the edge of St Peter Port the hotel is within easy walking distance of the town centre and offers superb views over Castle Cornet and Herm. The hotel is housed in a period building with separate dining facilities. It has modern Ieisure facilities including a heated pool and spa. The bedrooms are very comfortable and a good size with a nice seating area. They have complimentary tea and coffee facilities, an iron and ironing board, a safe and plenty of storage space. The quality of the bed, bathrobes and toiletries is definitely 5 star. We sampled breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea during our stay and all were of a consistently good standard. Breakfasts were particularly good with the hot options being cooked freshly to order from an extensive menu. Key to making our stay so enjoyable, however, was the friendliness of all the staff we met. They were always attentive and quick to respond to any request for assistance. All in all this is an hotel which far out-performs its 3 star rating.

    « Lovely Hotel »

We really enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. The hotel is beautifully decorated and maintained. There is a lovely view of the harbour and castle. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfortable and provided us with everything we needed. One of the two restaurants was being renovated but this did not spoil our stay as the remaining restaurant served excellent and delicious food. We would love to go back to this hotel again and we will recommend it to others.

    « Great stay »

Stayed last night and will definitely return. Rooms might not be as "designer" some hotels on the island, however the place is very clean and you are very well looked after. Dinner was superb and the breakfast also excellent. I think this is probably the best hotel food I have had in Guernsey. I would recommend you try it!

A very good hotel for our stay. Lovely position above the harbour. Great service, very comfortable room with a great bed and wonderful food. « It's attention to detail that counts. »

The star rating of a hotel will inform you of the facilities, fixtures and fittings of the place. What it cannot do is tell you about the atmosphere and approach of the staff. Like most hotels, they are using their quiet time of year to do some refurbishment, in this case major work to bar and restaurant. Not only was this mentioned on the hotel website and the courtesy email sent before our visit, about a week before arrival came a phone call from the assistant manager informing us that as part of the building work there would be a planned power cut on one day of our visit for essential work. Not only did he inform us, he also told us of the options should the work not going to plan and taking longer than expected. In the event, the work was completed on time, but it was good to know that if there had been a problem, all bases were covered. Another example is that my wife has some special dietary requirements. It was part of the evening's entertainment to see what new and imaginative ways the chefs would deal with this. Always good. It may be thought that as regular visitors to the hotel in some way we were getting special treatment. Not so. It is clear from watching the way staff interact with guests, whether it be their first visit or the latest of several, we all get the same treatment and all are made to feel special.

    « always a good friendly experience »

Once again good friendly staff the manager always seems to make an appearance and never fails to recognise you from the year before, and that's what helps to make this hotel special . I look forward to when their current building (restaurant conversion) works have finished

    « Fabulous Hotel »

Just back from a couple of nights on business in Guernsey and stayed here. The hotel is extremely well kept. In fact the restaurant / pub was undergoing major refurbishment (that we were informed of when making the booking) and food and drink needs were taken care of in the upstairs restaurant. This wasn't a problem as it had a fabulous view over the harbour. The rooms were spacious, modern and had nice touches, particularly the evening turndown service. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant. The Spanish restaurant manager was particularly professional. We ate in the hotel both nights. The a'la Carte menu had plenty of choice, as did the "Special set menu" It's nice to see plenty of locals in the bar too, enjoying their early evening drink. Breakfast was excellent. No dried out buffet slop which is so often the case these days. Breakfast was cooked to order. Top notch! Superb indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna topped off this amazing visit. The only thing that lets it down is that it's up a very steep hill and quite a long walk from the centre of town. You are knackered if you walk it. However, that's nothing to do with the hotel. Fabulous place. Will certainly be back if my travels take me to Guernsey again. Highly recommend it.

« Poor value with limited menus and large school party joining our Romantic Weekend »

Previous experience of breaks had been good at this hotel, but this one was pretty awful. Alterations to the downstairs grill room, and presumably the kitchen severely limited the menu. No a la carte, and same table d'hote menu night after night. Food regularly served cold, including cooked breakfast. Hotel had also booked a school party of over 24 with inevitable noise of slammed doors etc until late, at least on the first night. Hardly the Romantic Break we had booked, not helped by the Manager who told us the school party was a late booking, though ours was only confirmed a few days earlier.

    « New Year Stay »

We've stayed at the hotel several times now and its been faultless every time. Amazing views of St. Peters Port from this historic hotel. The staff are lovely, and we always feel at welcome and at home here. It really is a home from home. We most recently stayed over New Year with family friends. We stayed half board. The food was brilliant, and I think has certainly improved over the years with a more modern approach to cuisine. Lovely celebrations on New Years Eve, perfect for our group with youngsters and older folk alike. Cannot recommend this place more.

    « Hotel De Havelet January 2016 »

My recent stay at Hotel De Havelet in Guernsey was excellent. The hotel was amazing and the room was very comfortable. The staff were very attentive and although I am a vegetarian I was given numerous options. I would definitely recommend the food and the ambience and I would also recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family and any would be guests.

    « Family reunion »

We recently had a few days in Guernsey, my husband and I, from Australia, a cousin from Uk, and her husband, and a cousin from Canada. Our three mothers are from Guernsey and we wanted to see their birthplace. I have been twice before and stayed elsewhere but chose the De Havelet for its views from the restaurant. Unfortunately due to renovations starting the day we arrived I was told two weeks before that it would be closed for our stay which was very disappointing. They told us we could be bussed to one of their sister hotels for evening meals but breakfast would be in the usual room, which wasn't ideal for us., However when we arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised to see them in the midst of changing a small lounge room to a bar, the breakfast room also became a dining room, for the most amazing three course meal, and we had all been upgraded to newly refurbished rooms across the top floor front of the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful, and the manager popped in every morning and evening to see how we were. There were very few other people staying and we felt as though we were Royalty. The hotel was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, our rooms were huge and and our evenings in the bar reviewing the days outings are some of my best memories, the staff joined in our conversations and enjoyed laughing at some of our ridiculous photos. It truly was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone. I will return to Guernsey one day, and I will definitely return to the De Havelet.

    « Nice »

Nice hotel. Clean. Rooms nice, clean, quite spacious. Staff very good. Always ready to help and always asking if you need anything. I only had 2 issue's. Firstly, the VERY steep hill to the hotel. Not the worst thing in the world but an older person would really struggle and left me very breathless. When I booked the hotel I never saw it mentioned anywhere. My fault you could say for not reading other reviews. Secondly the restaurant. The separate building which is where breakfast and dinner is served is in the middle of a refurbishment. It happens, and understandably is happening in Jan/ Feb, out of season, but it never said it when I booked! People should be told about these things. Apart from that, a nice stay.

    « Birthday Dinner »

7 persons celebrated my 80th birthday. I had always visited this restaurant whenever I visited Guernsey. I have such fond memories, and was so happy to see the personal touch is still there. The food is first class, and the decor still has a touch of the original history.

    « Beyond Expectations »

Having enjoyed some wonderful New Year's Eve celebrations at a local hotel in Jersey for the last 10 years,we decided to take a gamble for 2015 and try somewhere different. We chose the 3 night New Year package at the De Havelet (the hotel had been recommended to us by some friends who lived in Guernsey) and we hoped that our gamble would pay off. We were not disappointed. The hotel was amazing, the room was fantastic in every detail, the food was excellent and the staff made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. The "meet and greet" drinks and canapés on the first night were a great "ice breaker" and the New Year's Eve celebrations were superb at every level. Even the music for dancing after dinner was not over loud and we were sat about 4ft from one of the speakers. It was clear that many of the guests were regulars there and we certainly made some lovely friends during our stay. The only disappointment ( not the hotel's fault) was that the Herm trip for New Year's day was cancelled due to horrendous sea conditions but as regular visitors to Herm during the summer, we know the island well anyway. We are raving about this hotel to all our friends here in Jersey and recommending they stay there, should they be going over to Guernsey. We hope to do the same trip again at the end of 2016 although we have promised the staff that when we are on holiday in Herm, we will come back over the Guernsey on one of the days and call at the De Havelet, not just for lunch but to say hello to all the wonderful staff there.

    « Special Christmas Break »

After a gap of two years,my wife and i returned to De Havelet for a nine night Christmas holiday. We were delighted with the whole experience, the high standard of quality & service is a credit to the whole team. We chose a superior room which was very clean & well appointed ,also with xmas gifts & Prosecco which was well received.Dining, both for breakfast & dinner was a delight, good choice, well presented with good service & reflects a high level of cuisine. The festive fayre met all expectations, making our Christmas that little bit special. The entertainment features were well thought out,the Boxing day trip to Herm & Island tour by bus standing out for us.The snack lunches & mulled wine were very welcome. The general manager,Gennaro Festivo has a highly motivated team, who are well mannered & efficient ,always doing that bit extra making our stay memorable.Whilst all staff provided good service,Sandis,Attilla,Kati & Diana(in the bar) are of special note. This hotel.location, cuisine & service ticked "all the boxes" for us, and have booked for Christmas 2016. .

I live in Alderney and visit Guernsey regularly. I have stayed in many hotels on the island and this is by far the best for friendly staff, comfortable clean rooms, good food (particularly for veggies) and a superb indoor pool/jacuzzi/sauna. Really good value, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Guernsey.

    « Anniversary break »

The location was fine for us but is up a hill which in turn provides amazing views. Our room was beautiful with chilled wine and various treats on arrival. The shower was brilliant. Our room also had private access from outside. The staff were friendly, efficient, polite and eager to do anything to help. The restaurant again had amazing views and breakfast was cooked to order which we found much better than a buffet. The only disappointment was our evening meal in the bar. It was poor but our complaint was dealt with immediately and fairly. We would certainly stay again

    « A long weekend getaway. »

We booked Hotel de Havelet due to its tripadisor rating and were not at all disappointed. Located in a hill over looking the bay of St Peters Port. Our room had been recently refurbished and was stylish and contemporary. The large ensuite was stocked with plenty of towels and complimentary products. The room was large with a good size bed which was very comfortable. The hotel offers an indoor swimming pool with steam room, sauna and a jacuzzi. All areas of the hotel are very clean and well maintained. Although we had a hire car for 3 days we parked it in the hotel car park on Friday upon arrival and didn't use it all weekend. The distance from the main areas of St Peters Port does mean that you get out and see some of the lovely buildings in the area. Thank you Hotel de Havelet we had a lovely stay.

« The photos make this hotel look more upscale than it actually is, but it's still nice... »

The photos make this hotel look more upscale than it actually is, but it's still nice. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean but the decor is a little basic and plain vanilla. They do not provide a free airport shuttle but they will arrange a taxi for you if you contact them in advance. There is a shuttle into town that goes at certain times. Not frequently in October. The location is a little out of the way, up on a hill. This is good because it's out of the bustle of St. Peter Port in a charming neighborhood and there's a view of the port and Castle Cornet. However, when you are tired, that 5 minute walk uphill is a bit of a chore. If you are in good shape it's not very hard but if you're not... The restaurant connected with the hotel is convenient with good food, moderate prices and casual dress.

« Lovely hotel run very efficiently »

I stayed for a week in a huge room with a balcony and sea view. I have not found many hotels willing to accommodate a single traveller in a superior double room at a reasonable rate. All of the staff without exception were friendly and attentive at all times. The food in the Wellington Boot restaurant was varied and plentiful. I had a lovely relaxing week and am looking forward to returning in the future.

« A charming hotel with fantastic views and great food too. »

I stayed here last week and was really impressed with the friendly staff, character of the decor and also the vast choice of food options. However what really impressed me was when when of the locals told me how the manager had taken a group of them out bowling for the day and treated them to a wonderful meal afterwards. How nice is that ! I doubt that would ever happen here in the UK. I also managed to get my key stuck in the lock and woke him up in the early hours and he was really good about it. This hotel is good for solo travellers, businesses and thirty something's plus. P.s don't go there if you are on a diet as when you see the menu you won't wont to order a salad.

    « Very Nice Stay »

We stayed here for two nights. It's a lovely hotel. Great room and nice stay. We took advantage of the spa area for an enjoyable morning of relaxation. When walking to St. Peter Port center, we chose to walk up to Les Vardes and turn right. It is a gradual decline and pleasant views. We took the same walk back as well as there are a few nice pubs along the way (Dorset Arms as well as The Cock and Bull). A great convenience to us was the use of the other BW Moores checked luggage. We checked out of De Havelet, took the shuttle to Moores, left our luggage there and were free to enjoy the town until it was time to catch our ferry. The shuttle driver actually suggested that we do that, which was greatly appreciated.

« The standard is still going up! »

This is our third stay in the hotel over a period of time and the standard of the staff, accommodation and food is getting better each visit. We stayed in a luxury room overlooking the sea and St Peter Port harbour and the level of comfort was excellent. Every member of staff we met was pleasant, courteous and efficient. The Wellington Boot restaurant and the Grill Room are undergoing a major refurbishment in January but the service, quality and variety of food was also excellent and made even more value for money because of the Tennerfest promotion that goes on on Guernsey in October / November. We will be back!

« Another great stay at Hotel De Havelet »

We worked out that we've been coming here for 30+ years now and yet again the hotel continues to excel on our latest visit. Whilst everything is really good, what makes the difference is the staff. Gennaro leads from the front and Sandis has become Gennaro II - making themselves visible and available and showing a genuine interest in the guests and with good memories for the day to day and important little things which make a difference. Attila has grown into his restaurant manager role really well and handled a little "incident" with great tact, care and professionalism. Luca (the handsome Grill manager as he asked us to say!) once again is a cornerstone of the hotel and one of the reasons we keep coming back. Whilst always friendly and chatty, he is perfect for knowing when to be there and when not (not an easy skill) and gets the customer/manager relationship just right. When he overheard a potential problem with an awkward customer, he immediately became involved, solved the problem with the difficult customer (who couldn't understand the concept of a 'buffet' and complained he wasn't being served!) and made sure everyone was happy. Could go on extolling the virtues of this hotel but, selfishly, don't want it to become TOO popular and the comments might lead to higher prices!! Mr & Mrs W

« Lived up to excellent reputation »

We selected this hotel from the great trip advisor reviews we had read and found the hotel to be as good as described. Attention to detail and wonderful service by the staff, combined with good food, clean comfortable room in a beautiful place made our stay very memorable. Hotel manager Gennaro Festivo led his excellent team by example, giving the hotel a lovely family feel but with a sense of style and sophistication. Highly recommended.

    « Return visit »

Another excellent stay at the Hotel de Havelet. Staff are very attentive and will do anything they can to improve your stay. My wife had a dreadful first night's sleep due to an unsupportive mattress. On mentioning this to reception the next day the mattress was changed and sleep was good thereafter. One wonders how many hotels would do this. We used the swimming pool regularly, and enjoyed the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The cleanliness of the hotel in both the public and private areas was superb.

« Fantastic service, lovely hotel »

Anyone thinking of opening a hotel, or any hotel with poor reviews should stay here to see how it should be done. The service is excellent and the hotel lovely and clean - a real find and I can't wait to return. The rooms were lovely, the food divine and the pool area was gorgeous. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

    « Oasis of surprise »

We had a choice of 2 Best Western hotels in St Peter Port and based on reviews our friends booked the Hotel De Havelet for our annual couples Tennerfest break in early October. Although not as centrally located as the other Hotel, the De Havelet is just a short 10/15 stroll down a fairly steep incline to the town. Buses are available during the day for your convenience if you don't fancy the walk. The hotel is officially rated as 3star but overall my experience warranted a higher rating. Rooms were well appointed and spotless with comfortable beds and a good size bathroom. A turn down bed service was a nice touch and the little chocolate left on the pillow was quickly devoured every night. The hotel also has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi which we used everyday after long walks along the coastal pathways. Again the facilities were spotless with towels and changing rooms available. Breakfast selection was impressively varied and presented better than most restaurants I've eaten at! Most impressive was the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Clearly they take immense pride in their work which is obviously down to good local management and self motivation. Lots of awards adorn the walls and I for one can certainly see why. Well done Hotel De Havelet for a very pleasurable experience.

    « Customer is king »

Arranged an Autumn break at Hotel de Havelet for three couples for four night stay. Pre-booked dinner on first night to ensure we could relax on arrival. The staff in the restaurant were excellent - particularly the Head Waiter who was very professional and welcoming. The food was varied and of very high quality and presentation. Drinks were quite reasonable with a good selection. We spent each evening in the hotel as it would have been difficult to better the service etc. All our rooms had Queen sized beds and were very clean and comfortable with fruit, drinks and fudge on arrival. The indoor pool was perfect and a good size. Breakfast was very enjoyable with a large selection with freshly cooked mains. Views from the breakfast room towards the harbour were perfect. There was a 'first' for all of us at this hotel - the Manager personally introduced himself to all visitors to enquire if they were happy with the service etc. This was very welcome and was done on a daily basis whilst in the bar, restaurant or reception area. Should we return to Guernsey we would certainly return to this hotel despite its location on the hillside - the view makes it worth it and there is a hotel mini bus which can be used to get down to the main town and back again.

    « An excellent restaurant »

I have been coming to the Wellington Boot for 50 years and it never fails.beautiful restaurant, stunning views.Delicious food and excellent service at a very reasonable price. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff and it was good that the Head waiter took the trouble to speak to each dining table individually..Ialways judge a meal by the vegetables and they were cooked to perfection

    « Heavenly Havelet »

We stayed for four nights. Room had a huge king size plus bed with good shower and bath and a nice goody box. Restaurent had a fabulous view and breakfast was out of this world but do ask for more than one rasher of bacon if you want more. Superb service, pleasant and helpful staff and 5* food. We will return. Thanks to you all.

« Excellent Waiter in Restaurant »

We did not stay in this hotel but visited the restaurant during our holiday in Guernsey. We had an excellent dinner as the food was fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The best part of the dinner was our waiter, Luca. He made helpful suggestions, was attentive, had a good sense of humor, and made our dining experience a real treat. He pampered us and made us feel as if we were his only guests. We've never experienced such a wonderful waiter before in all our travels. Kudos to Luca!

    « Great value tennerfest »

Fabulous views and lovely surroundings, the food for a tennerfest menu was excellent, great service (although at times seemed a little rushed they didn't mind you asking for that extra 15 minutes or so), makes me want to go back any time, regardless of their being "a meal deal" on.

« First rate as usual »

As a former Guernsey resident I've had a long association with the hotel and had no hesitation in choosing it for on a recent 7 night break. My single room was comfortable with excellent facilities and I was made very welcome in the Saddle Bar when I dined alone. Due to the quality and value of the food, the bar and restaurants are firm favourites with local residents so guests get a flavour of Island life without leaving the premises. Andrea D

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed at the De Havelet based on previous reviews and weren't disappointed. Our superior room looked freshly decorated to a high standard, although the old-fashioned decor wasn't quite to our taste. However, it was a good size, comfortable with a large, clean white bathroom. We also mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and that evening, we were left a bottle of Prosseco in our room which was a really lovely touch. The only couple of minor negatives (hence 4 stars) were that breakfast was really nice & extensive, but quite slow: it seemed that everyone else around us got served before us and also there is a long large hill back up from town. However, there is a shuttle bus that runs to/from town but it isn't that frequent.

    « Overnight Stay. »

Stayed for one night with a friend on Thursday 1st October. Room Spotless. Comfortable beds. Free Wifi. Super Staff. Had a drink in the bar. Nice atmosphere. We didn't have time to use the pool or sauna but would definitely use these facilities when we stay again.

« Still just as good »

This is a superbly run hotel, with excellent staff, very good food and situated on a great island. The swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna are an added attraction. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Guernsey

Lovely hotel ,close to harbour and main shopping area .the staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful .food in the restaurant and grill bar was 1st class both in flavour and presentation .Trainee Angel and his direct boss both attentive and happy to pass time of day but their attention to detail and service always came first .only downside is the hotel is up a very steep hill .

    « A Good "Wellie Boot" visit »

We are local on Guernsey and had an overnight stay at this hotel. I do not make a habit of doing reviews but this one most certainly deserves it. We could not fault it at all and the food in the upstairs restaurant was" fantastic". The place was run with regimental precision, very clean and all the staff very helpful indeed, Ivan especially. Great little pool with a spinner for drying your cossies! good steam room and sauna with a Jacuzzi to boot. Money very well spent and we will return.
