Bathroom floor and grout dirty. Breakfast: Coffee machine inoperative, yogurt berry toppings fermenting, oatmeal brown sugar a solid brick, eggs overcooked, all around lack of attention to basic details. Front desk staff excellent and friendly.
This hotel is a solid value in Beckley. We were greeted by friendly staff and had a well-equipped CLEAN room. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable so we slept well. We stay at this Best Western + on many of our trips to see family. The breakfast buffet had a number of choices as well. We will continue to make this a stop on road trips.
Good location. Nice and clean. We ended up in a handicap accessible room so no storage at all in the bathroom. The lights were extremely dim in the bathroom as well. Difficult to apply makeup in that type of lighting. Other than that, perfectly fine
Check in was pleasant. I left my keys at the counter when I went to the room and realized about 10 minutes later and went back to the desk to see them sitting at the counter. I kind of wondered why I didn't get a call up to my room and why leave them on counter for anyone to pick up? Easy push of the horn button and there goes my car! The women at the counter was in the back room when I saw the keys and when I picked them up she laughed as she heard the jingle. The room had been upgraded and the furnishings were nice. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were good. The upgrading stopped at the bathroom which had chipped tiles and peeling bathtub. The shower curtain was too short and we ended up soaking the bathroom floor and into tiles entryway. The towel I used to mop up the water came away with black. More attention to floor mopping. Breakfast had lots of choices and was in a large room.
Room wasn't clean, bed had crumbs in it and sheets were dirty. Bathtub was also dirty. Looks like the room was barely cleaned. I didn't tell the woman at the front desk because i was too tired. They definitely need to improve cleaning at this Best Western.
Not impressed. We asked for a king bed, but placed in a room with 2 queen beds. The hotel is older and it shows. Stained furniture. Tub was rust stained and the bathroom was small. The bed was clean & comfortable. The breakfast room was large and had a good variety of hot & cold selections. While we're eating in the breakfast room, the manager was loudly complaining to an employee. about another employee being an hour late. This should never take place in front of guests. When we were leaving, the same manager and another employee were smoking right outside the front door. No acknowledgment made to obvious guests when we were leaving. I would not stay here again.
Terrible place. Check in a nightmare. They had reservation wrong and never corrected it. Bathrooms dirty and hair on the floor. The front desk person not nice, crabby. The breakfast was very limited. They didn't have any yogurt or pastries. Eggs were tasteless and no cereal at all. Bad stay in Beckley.
Bathroom was terrible. Poor lighting. Sink water pressure was little more than a trickle. Hot and cold were reversed. Pop up drain was broken. Shaving became a chore. Bath tub was scummy. Did not use, even for a shower. Toilet was very slow. ruined the morning.
Very clean and seems to be recently updated. Breakfast was plentiful. Staff was very accommodating. Easy access and very near Tamarack Artesian Craft Mall so that was a nice stretch for our legs. We walked to Outback next door and had a very good meal.
Rooms were dirty. Beds had beris in them. Rooms were noisy. Bathroom was dirty. Online reviews were overinflated. The rooms were in need of major updating. Definitely not what I was expecting. Terribly disappointed in our stay. Will not be staying at a Best Western again.
The toilet had flush problems. The bed sounded like a drum every time you moved on it, bad base. Heater was too hot or too cold could not adjust temperature. And I found a small dead bug in my bed. For a Best Western I was very disappointed. I jsut spent 4 nights prior in Ohio. Such a better experience.
After a long day on rainy roads, it was nice to arrive for early check-in (as requested) The hotel was clean, and the King suite was well-appointed and clean as well... After obtaining room keys we found it to be a nice touch to find individual cookies waiting in the foyer.
There was a power outage and all of the guests got kicked out of the hotel because it would be impossible to stay there with no electric. The power went out while we were out of the hotel sightseeing. When we came back we walked right past the front desk, which was manned, and no one bothered to tell us that the power would not be back on for a least two days. Where I live when there is a power outage, it is usually back on in a couple of hours. I would think that a hotel would be given priority service by the electric company, but I guess not. Also, it would have been nice if the hotel had made arrangements for my wife and I to stay elsewhere. Instead, we were given the names of a few other hotels. We had to find a new place to stary on our own, which was the fourth hotel that I went to. Other area hotels also had power outages due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and they got power back either immediately or within a couple of hours. Best Western was projected by the front desk staff to take at least two days. When moving out we had to carry all of our stuff down the staircase from the fifth floor with very little light. Whoa - this just got 100 times worse. I had made reservations for three days at a cost of $490.77. We only stayed one night on account of the power outage. I just looked at my online credit card account and they charged me for the full three nights even though we were only there for one night before we were kicked out. I guess that I will be calling Capital One to get this charge reversed.
Super convenient and large room. Breakfast included many options, specialty coffees, gf items, fruit, and other dairy and nondairy options. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Convenient to town and food options in the area. Easy to visit New River Gorge NP from here — even for sunrises!
This little jewel of a hotel has a pet floor and allowed us to stay with our very elderly cat. Front desk staff enormously helpful and kind. Breakfast staff cheerful, efficient, and kept the dishes and the beverages replenished. We appreciated that almond milk was provided for our non-dairy diet. And we made good use of the 24-hour latte and cappuccino machine. Excellent value for the money. Located near south entrance to the wonderful New River Gorge National Park.
I stayed here overnight and was pleasantly surprised at the updated decor especially in the room. Hot water from the sink and shower were instantaneous. Breakfast was comprehensive with eggs, sausage, waffle maker, juice, coffee/cappuccino machine. The only disappointments were the shower/tub which had a mat but was still slippery, and the ice machine was out of ice. Would stay here again if the opportunity presents itself
Bed and pillows are amazing at this location, slept really well. Everyone in staff specially Mandy they were amazing, we truly enjoyed our stay here. there was no parking at night in front, manager Mandy remove her car and gave her parking spot, truly appreciate staff here.
The rooms were nasty and smelled like dog piss. The carpet in the halls were disgusting. The front office staff quoted on price for a suite then charged $30 extra. The suppos d club the chain offered is a joke and since signing up I have received a ton of spam email. Go elsewhere! A $50 motel is better than a $200+ suite here!
Great place, great service Stayed there last year and again this year and will next year. Pool was awesome and the staff very helpful. Thanks Best Western Quiet at night and have the outback restaurant right in front to go eat Fast service at the desk and easy check in 😄
Really nice hotel. Our room was incredible. (I have stayed in MANY hotels.) I don't see how someone would be disappointed staying here. BUT...I am wondering why the cost of hotel rooms in Beckley WV is so high. I can't fault the Best Western Plus for this because ALL of the hotels here were similarly priced and they are just competitive and market based costs. Weekend prices are significantly higher I know; as with most places, but still....??.....$$$$
Traveled with children and grandchildren, ages 5 and 7. Stayed here one night. We were able to get connecting rooms. The rooms are comfortably large. Beds were comfortable and pillows were comfortably soft. Breakfast area was large with plenty of tables. Food was good. This hotel has a small outdoor pool, which, since it was August, was fine for our grandchildren to enjoy. Location was very convenient with several good restaurants nearby. We would definitely stay here again.
My family and I stayed here in a pet friendly room as we were moving my daughter and her cat into an apartment at Ball State. We have stayed here before and it was not bad. I'm not sure if this stay was worse because we were in a pet friendly room but it was not great. I will say the front desk attendant Ember was friendly. This review has more to do with the room and Best Western in general. I'm assuming pet friendly rooms are on the 1st floor which is a floor below the lobby. The room was very moist. The A/C ran the whole time which I'm assuming is what made the room feel wet. The carpet was moist as if it had just been shampooed. It made my socks dirty. I actually took a shower before bed instead of in the morning because I felt dirty. There was a worm, a spider and some other bug. Normally, I can understand but on top of the gross moistness it was just not a pleasant experience. We had spend the night last month in a Best Western in Denver for almost $300. That room had no hot water the next morning. The front desk person at that hotel was supposed to let the manager know and of course no amount came off of our bill. No manager contacted us. We are done staying at Best Western hotels.
Bathroom had not been cleaned before we checked in- used bar soap, opened bottles of shampoo and conditioner still in shower and there were only towels for one person. I noticed the lack of towels when we checked in but it was late at night so decided I'd go to front desk in the morning to asked for a second set. Only noticed the dirty shower when I went to shower in the morning. Made me question if sheets had been changed. I was offered $25 refund.
This is our new favorite hotel when we stop for the night in Beckley. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was well-equipped, clean and quiet. The beds were super comfy and wifi was good. The breakfast buffet had a nice range of choices (bacon, eggs, waffles, breads, pastries.) Nightly rates are reasonable. We will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.
Great facility that appears either recently new or recently refreshed. Great check in experience, recognized as a Best Western Frequent Traveler in the Rewards Program. The breakfast experience was great with a good variety of foods to choose from, with great support from the breakfast support Team.
We booked here because we're Diamond members and know Best Westerns. This is not! Main reason to book- outdoor pool. Well....there was a pool but it was cloudy and buggy. They did have new chairs but None of them were lounge chair that you'd expect at a pool. They were all straight back chairs. Duh! Who wants that at a pool. It was 90degrees and could have enjoyed a pool. The king room was so small, a big butt wouldn't have fit. The water selector on the shower was backwards so you get hot first. Room was clean and close to I77 but it was on the same road as Chick fil a and Mcdonald. It required someone to flag traffic. Go somewhere else. We will be reconsidering our future choice of Best Western in the future!!!
We had a room on the 5th floor - weak internet, weak TV stations, and ice was only on the 1st floor. The lighting and the furniture seemed inadequate. The nightstand was not level so things rolled off of it; very small and no drawer. The refrigerator was also not adjustable and wasn't very cold. It was too small and not level so things would roll out. The elevator was very tiny and hard to get the luggage cart in and out of. As a plus, we slept well, they had free cookies, and we walked to the nearby Outback Steakhouse so we didn't have to drive for dinner.
Hotel is old and desperately need updated . Room I was given . Bathroom was dirty . Bottom of toilet not clean ... Look like pee . Floor and counter looked dingy and dirty . Rest of room was ok but I still was not satisfied. Woman at front desk was able to assign me a new room . It was much cleaner , but felt it could be better . Would not choose to stay at this hotel again and would not recommend hotel for cleanliness. Also, I believe in leaving a tip for the maid who provided me with a clean room . Why tip the person who cleans up after me bc how do I know if the next customer received a clean room bc then she got a tip for not providing good service .
The Beckley Best Western is a nice place, just off one of the main roads. It actually feels a bit hidden down a land with lots of trees (have I mentioned that they have LEAVES?!) The front desk clerk was most friendly. She was always there. The room is a pretty typical chain hotel room with a king bed, end tables, credenza writing desk with chair and a small easy chair off to one corner. We were on the first floor so all was convenient. And right there near the check-in desk was a basket of cookies (factory made cookies, but cookies nonetheless). A good choice. They had breakfast. Typical chain hotel fare. However they had a nice large breakfast area off the lobby. The area had tables, chairs and small couches. While breakfast was 'the usual' the breakfast area was a bit nicer than many.
Had a great 3 day stay, beds were comfortable, took our own pillows. Breakfast was hot and had some variation daily, coffee available all day, cookie bowl at the lobby. Room was clean, we had 2 queen suite with small attached living area, with it's own TV, which worked perfectly for the travel crib and toys. Small fridge, micro and Keurig maker. Roller black out shades decently effective. Was quiet as it's set back from roads. Ample parking. Outback steakhouse right in front of hotel, MCD and Chick-fil-A beyond that. Very convenient location. Best Best Western I've ever stayed in, rivaled some of the more 'lux' brands. Only -ve is bathroom quite tight, the door almost touching the toilet when opening. Elevator small, but very quick.
When I went to check in at the hotel, the receptionist rudely told me that I did not have a reservation. I showed them the booking confirmation page, but they refused to accept it, saying it was from Booking.com and that I needed their own confirmation number. After calling the general manager (who was even ruder), they spent 20 minutes trying to find my reservation. When I finally got to my room, the air conditioner was making a very disturbing noise like a tractor. After receiving such rudeness instead of a warm welcome, the room's condition was the last straw. This was the worst hotel experience of my life, and the staff were incredibly rude. Do not stay here.
Hotel exceeded all my expectations. We traveled with 2 toddlers. Breakfast was great and staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable and meet our needs!
The Best Western grounds are attractive and well maintained. The motel is well maintained and attractive with an outdoor pool. The interior has been recently updated and includes amenities on the high end forthe price range .
Great stay. Clean and quiet room, friendly staff. The front desk was super accommodating with our room situation. We have been hotel hopping trying to find a good place. Once we got here, we decided to spend the rest of our time at Best Western.
Fair value for hotel in this location. Room was very clean and it was a quiet stay as well. The breakfast offering was very limited and average in quality. Parking was adequate and there were restaurants nearby.
The front desk girls was very friendly and warmly welcomes me as a Best Western member. Beds were comfy and breakfast was good. We had a pet friendly room and our dog was very interested in stuff in the carpet. We could not smell it but she sure could. The carpets in the halls and exits could use a good vacuum. There are limited options for pet friendly hotels in Beckley and I would have no issues in staying here again.
The check in process was a bit slow due to staffing issues at a peak time. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was small but very clean. The bedding and pillows were very comfortable and the TV had lots of channels to choose from. The internet worked well.
We were happy with our overnight stay. The desk person was extremely helpful and friendly when we checked in. We had requested a room in the first floor and it was ready for us. The room was clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable comfy and I appreciated the pillow choices. The breakfast was excellent.
We stayed her on our way home (to the north) after visiting Georgia. We had low expectations as it was juts one night to sleep and then move on. But the Inn exceeded our expectations. Friendly staff, good breakfast, well maintained property and rooms.
One night stay en-route home. Agonized online trying to find a place balancing budget vs filth. Best Western Plus was a great choice. Made even cheaper using a 3rd party site, it was under $100. The room was clean and decorated nicely. Both my husband and I thought the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was clean and had ample counter space. Tub was worn in spots but it was clean. Small selection of soft drinks and snacks to purchase in the lobby. Outback is just across the parking lot and we ordered to-go using a 10% hotel discount that the clerk let us know about. Breakfast in the morning was what you would expect. They had a menu board out, so it looks like they vary it every day. ....the seating area was super comfortable and clean. The staff we encountered were helpful and friendly (so was the take out girl at Outback.) Stop agonizing and book here if you're traveling through Beckley! Heck, it would be great for a longer stay, too.
We stopped here on our way home from visiting family and were happy we did. The location is quick access off and on the interstate. We booked on BW website and used points. The actual checkin process was fast and efficient. We were greated as rewards members and given complimentary bottles of water. Our room was directly off the lobby and I would recommend not using that room as we did hear lobby traffic throughout the evening. The room itself was clean as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was complimentary and a typical hotel offering. We would have appreciated some fresh fruit but they did offer fruit juice. Checkout was also a breeze. I would recommend this location as a quick in and out option.
Our trip was due to my wife's father being in the hospital on life support. He passed away after a few days of us being there. Every morning the cleaning staff would cuss & yell at each other down the hallways. Some mornings we were sleeping a little bit after being at the hospital all night long & was always woken up by this. The beds were hard & lumpy. The breakfast food was horrible! There was moldy cheese, watery or hard eggs, soggy biscuits or hard as a rock biscuits, sausage was raw inside & they ran out of some food items (like cereal) for a few days. The light in our bathroom messed up & was flashing like a strobe light. We had to use the bathroom in the dark because there was no staff to fix it. They said we'd get a discount on our bill but we did not.
We had an excellent stay at this hotel. We found the room clean, the bed comfortable and the check in and out process simple. It was easy to find right off the West Virginia Turnpike. The hotel offered a 10% discount at the nearby(walkable) Outback restaurant. We were also happy to be able to get a room that was/had been designated pet free due to my allergies.
This hotel was a big bust. We were in town to visit New River Gorge National Park and we stayed here for one night, which was one night too many. The room and the hotel in general were dirty and the breakfast was one of the worst we've ever had. The poor staff were completely overworked too and they had no help or support (the same staff member was doing breakfast that checked us out). This place is a dive and not at all what we hoped it would be when we booked our room. Hopefully they'll make some changes, hire more staff, and clean things up or they're not going to be able to stay in business.
5stars from check in until check out Clean room with all amenities including a good number of towels, no usury's at all highly recommend Great hit breakfast everything was freshly cooked, dining area very clean I cannot say enough about this Best Western
Pleasant surprise, after staying at a BW, this BW plus was a pleasant surprise. It looks like the place was recently updated, which rooms having a modern look, and a nice Breakfast room. Breakfast was very good, a large selection of of whatever you like is available. Only one funny thing, it seemed Bathtubs were “updated” too, but the paint put on isn't sticking. Besides this minor thing, we would come back, if staying once more in Beckley/WV.
The room was absolutely disgusting. I booked this hotel for my husband and I for one night. I told him how Best Western was my go to hotel as I have never had an issue before out of all my previous stays. I'm not sure the room was touched by house keeping besides the making of the bed. The toilet was covered in poop from the previous person staying, hair was all over the shower, the bed sheets were stained, and the bathroom floor towel was dark grey/black after laying on the floor and being used. It was extremely disappointing to have paid the higher price for this hotel, when we could have stayed at a much cheaper hotel nearby and quality would have been better.
This hotel met my three requirements for a good hotel. They were clean, courteous, and safe. The first thing I do when entering a hotel room is check for bed bugs. I didn't see any. The bathroom was clean. The hotel is dated, but effort has been clearly made to keep it up. I was set to check in at 3 pm, so around 10 am, I was delighted to receive a courteous text message from the hotel saying they were looking forward to my arrival and asked what they could do to make my stay enjoyable. That has never happened to me before, and it meant a lot. The hotel staff who cleaned the rooms were courteous. The lady caring for the breakfast area gave everyone special attention. I am always concerned about the safety of my car, and this hotel made me feel that my car was as safe as cars can be. No curious street-type people were lingering around the hotel that I could see. The Outback Steak House next door is a must-visit. The food was excellent. There is a Kroger less than a mile up the road. The only thing I noticed that could have been better was that the room's tile and rug flooring felt moist, but it didn't bother me. There was no evidence of mold, just a settled humidity on the flooring. I have absolutely no problem recommending this hotel. I am from a small town just 19 miles south of this hotel, and when I come home for a visit another, I will definitely be coming to this hotel.
BW+ went above and beyond helping us bring our missionary to our church - thank you for the wonderful breakfast and the cleanliness of the hotel. People were very nice and friendly - the receptionists was very informative of the area. Thank you
every thing was perfect bed was comfortable good breakfast was good could not fine any thing wrong would recommend this place to everyone being and elite member i fine this place out standing cant fine any thing we don't like
My husband and I were traveling through to GA and stopped here after 10 pm. The clerk at the desk was very nice to us as we checked in. Room and bathroom were clean. The breakfast lady was great! She greeted all the guests as they entered, checked the stations, and cleaned tables as the guests left the area. Front desk was very nice as we were checking out.
Breakfast was awesome. Mandy at the front dest was outstanding. I have been to over 40 Best Westerns in the past 5 years--most were good, but this one was GREAT. Nice decor, exquisitely clean room and wonderful shower. Excellent wifi. Breakfast choices were great--good eggs and great waffles. Will go out of my way to stay there again if I am in the area,
Staff nice, but the buck stops there. Good breakfast, The room had a bad odor, no water pressure in the shower, bathroom long bar by the bathtub coming out of wall and the ceiling in the bathroom looked like it had mildew. The bedroom other than the odor was ok, You need an engineering degree to figure out how to operate the TV
We stopped here on our way to Tennessee for vacation. Nice hotel, clean room, great breakfast selection. Had car trouble on the way home and ended up staying again for 2 nights. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Very friendly. Would definitely stay here again
We chose Beckley as an over nite stay on our trip. We arrived early and the very helpful staff checked us in. The room was spotless, the beds are really comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and well presented.. We'll be back
We stayed here 2 nights as our last stop on a 2 week trip. This by far has been my favorite stay. The staff is so welcoming. The decor is light and cheerful. Breakfast was good and hot. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Only downfall was the pool was very cold. So cold that my 5 year old that swims no matter what wasn't able to. They did try to turn up the heaters but it wasn't able to heat up enough for her. It might be an issue with the heater, not sure.
We were very tired after a long drive of 8 1/2 hours and glad to get to the hotel. Its decor was very modern and the bed was great! An older place you can tell; cleaning wasn't the best, husband noticed the rug and bathroom somewhat dirty. But when you advertise on the marquee in front of the dining area for breakfast Biscuits & Gravy, you expect them to have it! Nope, no gravy and we went early morning…lady cleaning & supplying the dining area didn't seem to care that the two trash cans were overflowing… Not staying again.
Note: My opinions... Pro's: Room decent, bed comfortable, breakfast average, non-management employees friendly and helpful, location good. Cons: Slow wifi - internet speed topping out at 4 MBits at times much slower. Not high speed internet in my opinion. Couldn't even watch YouTube without it buffering constantly. Additionally, I was overcharged for my room by more than $1000! I'm writing this review two days after my stay and my credit card statement is still screwed up. When I went to question the general manager about the extra charges, she said that I was rude and could leave, claiming that I raised my voice. Every time I tried to talk to her, she accused me of being rude. Horrible customer service in my opinion. I have been staying at this hotel for many years, long before it was a Best Western and I have never experienced anyone in a management position acting like her . You might have better luck than I did. It was a better hotel when it was a Fairfield Inn I think. I canceled my July and Sept reservations for 1 week each and don't see myself ever staying there again. The ratings seem to be good, but I would guess that most people only stay one night. Not long enough to be driven nuts by slow internet and crazy billing.
First visit since transition from a Marriott Fairfield Inn. Our arrival was met with friendly greetings by Mandy and Ally with welcoming BIG SMILES. Check-in was smooth. Everything tidy and clean. Room was spotless. Very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was better than expected and well supervised by Jennifer. Our experience with Beckley Best Western Plus prompted us to book our next overnight stay as we headed further south with a Best Western Plus. Our Beckley Best Western Plus stay was flawless. Lots of smiles, comfortable restful sleep and nice breakfast. A+ stay!
Great stay. Awesome staff at checkin and check out. Great breakfast options with plenty of seating. Convenient location near Outback Steakhouse, McDonalds and Chick-fil-A. The bathroom is small and we had some issues with the toilet, but still highly recommend.
I have been fortunate enough to do a lot of travelling and have submitted numerous reviews from around the world. I try to be very impartial and honest when submitting TA reviews because I, myself, make my travel decisions after reviewing the experiences of others. My husband and I have been snowbirds for 5 years and make a habit of stopping halfway to our southern destination. This year we decided to make our stay at BEST WESTERN PLUS BECKLEY INN based upon the wonderful TA reviews. What a huge disappointment! This was our worst experience EVER! After driving 8 hours the only thing you want and need is a place to have a decent meal and a good nights rest before heading out again the next day. We arrived to the hotel at 4:00 pm to stand in a line up at the front desk that only had one window which accommodated one guest at a time. The friendly front desk clerk, a female named Mikah, (I apologize if I spelled it incorrectly), was doing her best to check in the waiting guests. There seemed to be a backlog of available rooms because they hadn't yet been cleaned and ready for new guests so we were assigned room 508. Mikah directed us to our room and informed us about the complimentary breakfast hours. We arrived in room 508 to find a running toilet, filthy bath and shower, one roll of toilet paper, no hand towels or face cloths and a dingy smell in the room. My husband and I walked back down to the lobby and asked to be reassigned a different room. Mikah happily designated room 211 to us. (Please understand that we are not "the Ritz" type of people and all we are looking for is a clean room that we can use for one night and be on our way). Room 211 was no improvement from the first room - dirty wall lamp btw the beds, hair in the bathroom sink that also had a large stained crack in it, a filthy dusty bathroom fan over the bath towels, half a roll of toilet paper, a desk lamp with a burnt out lightbulb, a tv that didnt work and wall sockets that were a fire hazard, (they were loose in the wall and sockets were exposed). Mikah went above and beyond with her customer service and helped us fix our tv and she even ran to the mechanical room to get us a lightbulb to replace the burnt bulb in the desk lamp. My husband returned the room 508 keys at the front desk and waited behind a gentleman complaining that the sheets on his bed needed changing. The complimentary breakfast was simply "ok". Rubbery scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, toast, yogurt, cereal, apple squares, muffins, waffles, coffee, tea and juices. I would seriously reevaluate the cleaning staffs practices at this venue. As stated before, Mikah is an outstanding member of the team. If only the cleaning staff worked half as hard, this place would stand a chance. We will not choosing the Best Western Plus Beckley in future.
We arrived late afternoon on Christmas day and were told there were no clean rooms of the type we had reserved. We waited an hour in their newly renovated breakfast room while a woman was called in to clean ours and other needed rooms. We wereable make hot cocoa whilevwe waited, since the coffee was cold. I blame the owner/manager for poor planning. All the cleaning staff had been given the day off. The one person at the front desk was not adequate to take care of guests. Once our room was available, we entered a very cold room (56 degrees) and turned on the heater waiting for it to get warm. Room is poorly lit and needs another trash bin. Even though they freshly made the bed, the top pillow case had a larger dark red/brown stain. Needless to say, we were hoping for better for celebrating Christmas.
Best western has the nicest hotel in beckley. The staff is amazing and very welcoming. The hotel itself is super clean and up to date. The breakfast is delicious as well. Biscuits and gravy is my husband's favorite and they make some of the best ones he's ever had is what he tells me.
Very comfortable beds. Very nice breakfast area and selection of food. Very friendly staff. Just very nice all around. Would definitely return if in the area. Outback Steakhouse in walking distance with a discount available.
Lovely and restful stay! This area is quite congested with many businesses, hotels, and restaurants in a small area. Surprisingly though, I heard nothing from inside my hotel room. The desk staff were friendly and very helpful. The bed was nicely padded and comfortable. The room was clean and tidy with updated furnishings such as USB ports near the bedside. The thermostat for the heat/ac unit was adjusted by a wall control and it was very quiet. A full breakfast was served and the biscuits were delicious! I highly recommend this Best Western location!
Non functioning computer and printer. No one on staff able to repair or make functional. Unacceptable customer service/ attitude. Just no excuse for a hotel to not have resources on hand to deal with such a situation
Supposed to start at 6:30. I went to at 7am. Only sausages are available, no eggs, no bacon, no biscuit, although biscuits came ten minutes later, but gravy was cold, hard to eat. There were only about 10-15 guests in the dining room
Night auditor was awesome. Quickest check in and gave great directions where to park and gave great information about breakfast etc the bad thing I would say that the bathroom was extremely small but other than that water pressure was awesome probably the best pressure I had at hotel in a long time
This is an older hotel that has been updated, the rate was very reasonable for the area. The room was clean and had a small microwave and refrigerator. The breakfast area is very spacious. There were some minor cosmetic issues but nothing major. The primary reason it gets 5 stars is because of the staff and service. Every worker we encountered was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. We would stay here again if in the area.
Woke up to being bit by fleas and watching them jump on the bed. Room was covered. Went to shower off (because that's disgusting) and the tub would not drain. While getting ready to leave, housekeeping tried to open our door no less than 3 times (at 8:30a). Terrible experience, dirty, dirty, dirty hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE. - the disappointed guests from 302
I no a little about it but the boss is teaching me a lot she is a good boss and the manager here can teach you good this is a good hotel to stay at it is clean and everything and the breakfast here is good and they're really really clean this is the best hotel in Beckley
My husband and I spent two nights at the Best Western for my Birthday getaway. The hotel is beautiful and has been remodeled. Loved the colors and furniture. Pool is outdoors and we made use of it. Stevie is the new manager and was very nice to us while we were staying. Anything we needed she made sure we got. We are coming back Christmas to visit family and will definitely stay here. My husband loved their cookies! Price was reasonable and Outback gives you a discount if you stay here. Loved a much needed few days. Highway recommend this hotel ! We
We were in town for the death of a friend I served in the Military with. I was sitting in the breakfast room feeling pretty low. There aren't many of useful. I was approached by a most kind lady named Stevie. She stopped by and if we could have a cup of coffee together. We talked quite awhile and she made me feel better. This lady appreciates us Veterans and loves her country. She operates a very nice hotel. Rooms are Ean. Great breakfast and staff is super nice. I want all Veterans to consider the Best Western Plus when traveling through Beckley. I will definitely be returning and stay here. We were very pleased with the hotel.
Me and my Wife recently traveled from North Carolina to Virginia and had to stop in Beckley, West Virginia During my stay I stayed at the BEST WESTERN and when I tell you it was AMAZING. I was Greeted by Ms.Stevie who helped me tremendously and was very patient with me it was the best customer service I have received in a long time . The pool and breakfast are wonderful also the location is convenient. I definitely will be staying at the Best Western anytime I'm in Beckley
I have stayed in a lot of hotels and have been satisfied many times with the rooms and staff, but never enough to prompt me to write a review. The rooms here are very nice, especially considering the price point. I was more than satisficed with the cleanliness and newness of the rooms. But, my experience with the staff is what made me want to write a review. I've never stayed in a hotel where the staff is so caring and accommodating. To say they go out of their way would be an understatement. The whole staff seemed to enjoy and take pride in their jobs, which is not the norm!
My husband and I totally enjoyed our stay there. The front desk was awesome, very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and beds were very comfortable. Definitely would stay there again! Talking about returning in the fall to see the color changes.
Very well managed and maintained. They are serving a full hot breakfast. Eggs, bacon sausage oatmeal and fresh fruit. My room was brand new and very clean. I was very impressed and tipped accordingly. I spend a lot of time on the road and Best Western had all the amenities I needed. The washers dryers were put to use. I was happy not to take my dirty laundry home. Rebecca and Cheyenne were very gracious and enjoyed their positions. Happy employees make for happy guests. Big shout out to staff and management. I will definitely be returning..
If I could give a quarter star would be to much! When arriving, I was looking forward to staying in a moderately nice hotel. $122 for night seems ridiculous after what happened. So when arriving I walk into doors to hear the main manager Ms A(big lady with fro hair), complaining about her guest on the fourth floor. She continues to be very loud in her dislike, aggravation and attitude about this guest complaining about his bathtub filling up. So she calls another lady supposedly over wallow talkie but lady was just in other room. Ms A. Continues to gripe and say "I'm over this guest and his complaints, over it!". Then proceeds to stare at me before I approach. All the while standing right in front of her as she speaks horribly of someone paying her bosses rates! Next morning, I was rudely interrupted by the same Ms A-manager since she didn't introduce herself. I answered door peaking around door, #1 I WEAR A MASK. I've been wearing a mask since the pandemic started! Not only did this manager complain to me about there being a leak down on floor below from taking a shower. She asked if I had been in the shower, I explained it had been over an hour since a shower. Earlier that morning my husband called the front desk for a late checkout, which was granted until 1pm. So my husband and I are undressed, and in walks the maintenance man with ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING, no knocking NOTHING! Of course the maintenance man was not wearing a mask. So that's now two people that got in my face within two feet with no masks! I video everything and take pics of everyone always- ACCOUNTABILITY!! So I called down to front desk to inform Ms A that her maintenance man had just charged in. Instead of an apology or any form of, she proceeds to ask "he didn't knock did he?". I said "no, he barged in while we were naked!" Ms A,"oh, we'll that's because you were supposed to check out at 11am! WHAT A FREAKING LIAR! UNBELIEVABLE! Even the other attendant front desk child answered the phone when I called to make sure it was ok to use bathroom. She said "oh You are 309? Ya when you turned the water off it stopped leaking." Even though it had been over an hour and we took another shower and no complaints that round!!!And we are to trust these ijits with our personal information ie credit card numbers, drivers license, phone numbers and email?! This protected information that shouldn't be seen by anyone! Ya right! Most definitely will never stay at this unkempt, no privacy, uncaring staff. The owner obviously does not care either!! I always take pictures of entire room before and after each stay. So here are just a few pics. Stains on floor that look like poop or blood. Stains on pillow cases that looked like someone had pee stained handprint. Dark brown marks in a complete white tub(also looked like blood). But worst of all, the vents in the bathroom! Horribly DISGUSTING! Have used toilet paper! Come on people, get it together! This is not professional! We work hard for our money and you continue to take from us! Disgusting! This is only the first site I will place this review! It's becoming a very consistent letdown by all the best westerns I've stayed at in the past 6 months! Also, they(staff) didn't bother letting us know that there was major construction taking place on third floor where we stayed. Saws going off at 8:30 in the morning! Really shows how much there guests don't matter! This is why I stay at the HILTON OR even IHG! The man in the first pic is jerk maintenance guy!!! Waiting till we left over an hour later! So unbelievably rude and uncaring!
Entire property and pool area seems recently renovated. Above average continental breakfast with oatmeal, waffles, bacon and eggs. The room was clean and comfortable and included several USB charging ports and a decent desk. Very professional and courteous staff.
A few issues here and there, but for the most part it was good. First room issued had remnants of wet dog smell where previous occupant snuck in a pet. We were switched to a new room that was much better. There was also a mixup at front desk with account. Happened to walk up and hear they had texted wrong person about check in. That person then called hotel to investigate. Odd thing... front desk gave me phone to talk to them? Not my place to handle their customer. Probably shouldn't have happened like that. Hope it wasn't a scam. Breakfast in the morning was good and well stocked. AC in final room was refreshing and clean smelling. Only problem with the room is door placement for bathroom. You cannot open and close the door if you are on the toilet. Turn a light on if you in the middle of the night or you will catch your toe. See pic for placement.
Allen Is the Bomb!!! He went above and beyond for us. He was the only one working in the entire hotel but handled it well. They were super busy and only 1 person. Come on Best Western I have never stayed at a hotel with only one person working , sounds like someone is being cheep. But all in all this is a great hotel and worth every penny I spent.
Nowhere, in any of its public utterings, does this Beckley, WV property tell anyone that it's in the middle of a house-wide renovation that impacts everything a traveler experiences. And they doing a particularly bad job of insulating guests from the mess. Storage containers scattered across half of the parking are (at least they keep them sort-of-hidden from the main entrance), workers moving materials, furniture, bedding, etc. throughout the hotel from ~8am until 6pm, 7 days a week, and construction debris in the hallways of floors where they are actually renting rooms! There are framed photos, etc. stacked in the breakfast area, the smell of paint is present, and rooms that are being rented have a combo of new and about-to-collapse tables & chairs being used. One front desk person confided that for some reason they were renovating all 5 floors at the same time, rather than being smart enough to close off a single floor at a time. That person stated they'd suggested a more customer-centric approach, but had been shut down by the owner. We've been steadfast customers of Marriott's close competitor for 3+ decades, but tried this property at a friend's recommendation. It doesn't take much to ruin a franchise's reputation, but this owner has managed to do it in spades. Buh-bye
We stopped at the Fairfield Inn without reservations. Allan was super accommodating with a newly renovated room at a great price. He recommended two restaurants to us that were both winners. No complaints at all about the stay. We slept well and it was quiet. So why 4 stars? I have never seen SO MANY DOGS at a hotel with guests taking them into the breakfast room. (Not service dogs, pets.) If we drive back through Beckley, I would not hesitate staying at the Fairfield Inn.
I make my way through Beckley about three times a year. Figured I'd give this property a try but the surly, old lady with short hair and nose ring made you feel about as unwelcomed as possible. Hotel is pretty raggedy and old. Much better and newer options in the area for the same price. Won't give this place another shot in the future.
We experienced a booking problem with the hotel but the hotel management quickly took action to rectify the situation once they were made aware of it. You can tell a quality operation by the way they respond to problems. Room was very clean. Front desk clerk was very accomodating and the chocolate chip cookies and mints were very welcoming. The breakfast was very good with eggs, bacon, waffles, oatmeal fresh fruit and several other options. The woman preparing the breakfast and cleaning the dining areas was one of the hardest workers I have ever seen in this type of role. Over all once our booking issue was resolved this was an outstanding experience.
Slight problem with reservation, but staff saved the day. The room choice that I booked online wasn't available when I arrived, not sure why, possibly due to construction at the hotel. But Hannah at the front desk took care of everything, and I got a better room out of it in the end. Nice place with hot breakfast as of Feb 2022, would stay there again. For 2 years, everywhere I've gone, all I ever get is "we can't _____ because of covid". It was really refreshing to deal with somebody who can problem-solve for a change. Thank you Miss Hannah, you are an asset to your hotel team. Lol at all the Canadian mask-police reviews, if you're afraid, go hide in your own country and stay out of ours.
There is no mention on the hotel website that it is under renovations. The hotel looks like a construction site. Thé staff is bad, and it was a real shock. I am an Elite Platinum member, stayed in many properties, so me better some worse, but the staff was always great. Not this time. The person responsible for breakfast seemed irritated by request to replenish some food an hour before the end of breakfast. Then she just left - put on her coat, took her purse and left. There was no one on reception, staff seemed to congregate somewhere in the back room and chat. No one wears masks. A dog peed in the breakfast room, but no staff was available to remind the guest not to bring the pet to breakfast area, and no staff was around to clean it. The room has extremely loud AC, so it was hard to sleep. The water in the bathroom kept dripping, no matter what we did to try and shut it off. I paid $120 for the room, which is highway robbery considering a nearly sleepless night, no decent breakfast (we had to go get breakfast after we checked out, which cost us both time and money) and terrible attitude of staff.
My wife and daughter stayed here on December 30,to visit New River Gorge National Park. The hotel is being remodeled so I'm sure it will improve. The staff was incredible. Rebecca checked me in and somehow charged me for having a pet which explains why I was placed on the pet floor. However Kami the manager was wonderful (and beautiful). She fixed the rate plus gave me an additional amount off. Thanks for being so professional and a sweetheart at the same time. I would stay here again just because of staff
Lack of COVID protocols. No glass protection at front counter and staff unmasked. Chose to cancel and stay at neighbouring hotel with COVID guest safety protocols in place. Hotel staff need to remember that it is not just local health and safety regulations but that of the customer and traveller. This pandemic is far from finished.
We stayed two nights at this Marriott property and consider it just average. There was some construction devoted, we presume, to renovation and it might help the facility. However, the work has trashed the elevators. Some reviews cite unclean rooms. In our case, the room and bathroom were in fine shape. However, there was only one tiny bar of soap for the sink, no soap for the shower. When I asked the front desk for bath soap the next morning, the staff seemed surprised that this was something a guest might want. The room itself certainly needs updating. There is a dearth of electrical outlets both around the desk and around the room. There are no USB outlets in the room. We had a king suite with two TVs (the extra room that makes it a suite is really small), but only one TV would respond to efforts to turn on. When we reported this at check-out, we learned that because someone had used Netflix, we would have had to use a very specific sequence of inputs on the remote to use that TV. Clearly, we should have called the desk to complain about the TV, but the desk could have been proactive when we checked in and let us know about this odd issue. The small refrigerator in the room was completely iced over (also reported at check-out). There may be staffing issues due to the pandemic but someone cleaning the room between visitors could check these things and alert maintenance. [Note: We did not call in these problems during our stay because we did not want unnecessary staff to enter our room.] And during our two-day stay, we saw no one else wearing masks, neither staff nor guests. Unlike other Marriott properties we have visited in the last three months, there were no disinfectant wipes in the room and no hand sanitizer dispensers near the elevators or in public spaces. Given the ongoing COVID pandemic, this was disappointing. At least breakfast was nicely done, with hot scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage links, and DIY waffles. The was a good variety of yogurts, dry cereals, and pastries (not prepackaged). Complimentary newspapers were available.
The rooms are what you'd expect: clean, efficiently configured, comfortable and only a bit beat up. Why the hotel deserves such high marks, though, is this: despite the large number of guests the presentation of the breakfast buffet is clean, well-organized and frequently replenished. Though standard-issue cereals seem intended for children--they are brightly colored sugar--upon request raisin brand is available. Well done, Hannah (with two H s, etc.).
My family had 3 rooms at $154.00 each and all three were in very poor shape. The ceilings over showers were falling and all bathrooms had some mold. One bathroom had hair in several places in the bathroom. In my room the stool handle had to be held down to flush and the tub filled as we showered and took several minutes to drain. My bath towel was damp although folded as a fresh towel. Around vents in the dining area there was bubbled peeling moldy ceiling sections. I acknowledge there was evidence in the parking lot they were working somewhere in the building but far better they had closed the whole place rather than rent rooms in such aged and bad shape. We were very disappointed and extremely disgusted. I will compliment the young lady that checked us in. She was very courteous and attentive. Several families besides mine were checking in late in the evening and she was very pleasant. The whole place is showing much wear and tear and certainly in need of being refurbished. I would avoid making reservations there.
Very poor condition. Didn't appear to have been any significant updates or refurbishment for over 10 years. I am a Marriott gold member and couldn't believe this was still a credited hotel. Plumbing was marginal. Clean but worn out. Elevator was a scare to ride. Only positive was the staff. Very friendly and helpful.
