"Disappointed Experience"
Drumland1, 17 Février 2024

Good car parking ,ample space, front reception were welcoming on arrival. Hotel was warm including room which was great as weather was cold outside. Sadly, the hotel needs a complete refurbishment, room was very outdated and bathroom needs complete modernisation. Evening meal was very uninspiring , definite not of a hotel standard, waited over 40 minutes for the main course which was awful. It was from the Chefs special menu but it was very disappointing. Was expecting a buffet breakfast with a wide choice on the table, however you had to order a cooked breakfast, asked for hard boiled eggs, they arrived soft. Have stayed at numerous Best Westerns in Europe which have been v good quality, come on Best Western you need to improve this UK hotel.

"A Norfolk Rest."
rharding28, 15 Février 2024

Situated at the corner of the old market square the George hotel is well situated to explore the town, all is within comfortable walking distance. It is a very pleasant old Georgian Coaching Inn well appointed, comfortable and well presented. We arrived on a dull February afternoon were able to park in the adjacent car park. We entered into a bright welcoming foyer and reception. The staff were cheerful and made us welcome . The registration process is very straightforward and on receiving our key we made our way through and up the old stairs to our room. The room was situated at the front of the hotel giving a view across the town centre. The room was a good size with a large double bed and a good range of chairs and dfurniture. The attached bathroom was also a good size with bath and shower. All very clean and well presented. Being high there was no traffic noise from outside or people passing inside. The result a good peaceful nights sleep. WE had dinner in the rather nice georgian dining room which was clean and well presented. Staff were helpful and the food was good. We enjoyed dinner at leisure. Breakfast was in the same dining room and very acceptable. Our stay was good but we expected it to be so because we have stayed before and find the place comfortable and welcoming. We will stay again. It is not perfect but the problems have been only of a minor nuisance. The toilet din't flush very well and bath water needs to be hotter. Problems easily remediable. AS was meal portions, for us they were a little large, but that is not necesserily a problem. On balance the stay and value were very good.

"Dated, Unclean Hotel"
lesp719, 08 Février 2024

We stayed one night, overnight, before going to a funeral in the area the next day. We arrived relatively late due to a long travel from Yorkshire, quickly unpacked and headed to the bar for a nightcap before retiring as we had an early start in the morning. When we got back up to the room, we noticed in the bathroom that the toilet had toilet paper and some brown matter in the bowl, the toilet cistern top was dirty, and behind the bowl in-between the toilet cistern was also dirty. The sink had black/grey fluff and hairs in it. On the tiled wall around the bath/shower, underneath the towel rail were also hairs. When we examined the beds, the linen seemed pressed, but had blood spots and hairs on the sheets, and dirty black marks on the pillows. We were extremely tired by this point, and couldn't face a room inspection and possible transfer to another room, so cleaned up as best we could, turned the pillows over to a clean side and went to sleep. The duvets provided on the twin beds were extremely thin and small for the size of bed, and we were quite cold in the night. There were no extra blankets in the wardrobe as is usual at other hotels. This was February, a cold month, so the bedding needs to be adequate, or extra needs to be provided if guests want more. In the morning we noticed that quite a few of the wallpaper seams were lifting/curling up, and that the carpet on the stairs was repaired with gaffer tape. The shower did not have a thermostatic mixer bar, and so ran scalding hot and freezing cold during the shower, presumably as other rooms used hot and cold water. This hotel needs to invest in updating the hotel, employing better, more professional, cleaners, and retiring bed linen when it is past it's use by date. When we checked out in the morning, we were not asked "Did you enjoy your stay?", or "Was everything OK for you?", at which point, feedback would have been given. The two receptionist were busy at the computer, discussing something, looked up and said "Leave the keys there". The hotel will probably respond that we should have notified them at the time, but it was late, we were tired, and the ones should be on the hotel to get it right, not on the guests to be the Quality Control for the hotel Sadly, I could not recommend this hotel for even a one night stay.

"Disappointing."
Julie T, 16 Décembre 2023

Please avoid. Maintenance issues in room, wall paper peeling, uncomfortable bed and the bathroom needs bringing up to date. Staff courteous and friendly though. Breakfast adequate. Wouldn't stay here again. Sorry.

"The George at Swaffham"
josephine j, 21 Novembre 2023

We stayed at the George a lovely warm friendly hotel Well situated in the friendly town of Swaffham This was a repeat visit on the first anniversary of our brother's funeral last year We stayed at the George on that iccassion too The kindness of the staff and service made a very difficult visit much better than we exoected Staff are friendly and kind always willing to help

"Excellent hotel, location and staff"
jantex, 19 Novembre 2023

Stayed for 2 nights in November 23, what a most enjoyable stay we had. Location if hotel was excellent, just off the main market square. Free parking and wifi. The room was clean and tidy and everything worked well. The beds were so comfy and lovely quality bedding. Staff were welcoming, friendly and happy to help. The breakfast was excellent, all items were of top quality and cooked to perfection, the service was also spot on. Would most certainly recommend this hotel!

"Sunday Carvery Lunch"
Robert B, 26 Octobre 2023

We visited again for the Sunday Lunch Carvery with four of the family who live locally in Swaffham. The roast dinner and puddings were all enjoyed by my party and would definitely visit again as it is good value set in a nice dining room.

"Good stop over for business and visiting friends"
Bob M, 17 Septembre 2023

A bit dated, standard rooms adequate, beds comfortable, ensuite stuck in the 70s. The reception staff are friendly and professional. The restaurant and food good. Parking adequate. Good hotel for a couple of nights.

"Terrible carvery"
Nina F, 06 Septembre 2023

Terrible carvery meal, we chose to go to the George as my mum had moved to the area after recently losing her husband, she chose to go to the George for her first family meal out with us all…it was terrible cold food, watery tasteless veg, flavourless gravy and chewy yorkshires in a canteen environment…we left disappointed but not wanting to make a fuss as mums day! She clearly wasn't happy when she had and upset stomach for the evening and next day! So she complained spoke to the manager who apologised stating they had issues that day and would like to invite us back for another carvery. Great! We heard nothing else I emailed them as mum struggles with her email and asked could we have the cash equivalent for an evening meal so we didn't have to go back to the carvery experience…yes fine Roxi emailed back and heard nothing more!! Such poor service very disappointing!

"In need of an over hall"
Ingrid J, 28 Août 2023

Where do I start ? The plus points … breakfast was very well made with prompt, friendly service. The room however was tired and dirty. The window frame was in need of a damp cloth, the light strip a dust and the mould on the bathroom walls needed treating and repainting. It's not a surprise as the extractor didn't work. The rubber bath mat had short and curlies on the sucker side but the towels were great, better in fact than the Bannatyne Spa I'd been at the previous day. For £144 per night this is not on and yes I raised the areas of concern on check out. Room 52

"A Grand master of the past has fallen from its perch in dramatic ways"
Ben L, 23 Août 2023

I have frequented this Hotel on many occasions and have always been Very pleased with the experience, in the 80s 90s and 00s it was the place to be in Swaffham. UNFORTUNATLY. times have changed and the Hotel has lost its charm. We stayed for 7 nights in 2 rooms , the rooms did not get serviced once by housekeeping for the first 4 days , On entering the rooms it was clear they were in bad order, You cannot take a shower as the water pressure is so low The bathrooms where so dated and in bad condition the shower holder was falling of the tiles , the bath had silicone inserted all along the floor , the Lino floor was stained and dirty , and the mirror was so low i had to kneel to take a shave . then the BED, the mattress was so thin and soft it was possibly the cheapest mattress available to purchase and i am not sure how old it was, but it was not clean. soft pillows that disappeared into the atmosphere once the head touched them. curtains with water stains all over, a wardrobe top that was covered in thick dust and a window that was full of black Mould. The continental food for breakfast was clearly poor with fruit salad looking like it was 5 days old and a toaster that was unable to toast bread correctly. The saving grace was the order menu English breakfast which was ok. We ate of the bar menu our first night which was good, and decided to eat again the next evening which was terrible, raw fried fish was served and it was not fresh smelling. we even asked for a coffee for breakfast and the waitress said she was far too busy to make one for us, but we were the only people in the restaurant. When we tried to reserve a table for dinner with the waitress she simply did not know how to respond The bar closed every day at 15.00 until 18.00 this was a bit of a frustration as we would have liked to have some afternoon drinks, even though reception would have made she had to unlock the bar to make them which proved to time consuming. in days gone past all the staff wore really smart uniforms and looked the part i have to say this was not the case here, skinny jeans, music band t shirts dirty uniforms i can go on and on. there were a few shining beacons in the form of 2 Duty managers Sheena and Tanya who did make our stay more pleasant than it was and did go out of their way to assist us. Joyce was also very helpful. the chef was constantly walking around the guest areas with his phone stuck to his hand and to be honest needed a decent uniform to it didn't inspire us to order more food. All the issues were addressed with the General manager Roxy who did reduce our bill by 100 pounds per room, which was a nice gesture We spent as a family nearly 1500 pounds on our 7 days stay in the hotel with food and room costs, If the AA give this hotel 3 stars, then i think they also need to do an evaluation very quickly. this Hotle is no more than a glorified bed and breakfast now and should not be allowed to charge more than 50 pound a night. The fault all lies with the owner and BEST WESTERN HOTLES pull your finger out and restore this old classic to how it used to be

"Nice hotel that needs a bit more maintenance to bring it to top class."
IMH-Sussex, 22 Août 2023

Good spacious room, but maintenance needs attention. Found it difficult to open the room window, wardrobe door not lockable as (presumably) the lock tang was permanently on locked. Bathroom fittings partially hanging off the wall.

"Not the best....."
monkeymoo103, 02 Août 2023

I have mixed feelings about my stay. On arrival at around 10.15pm there was a notice to say reception was currently unmanned and to go to the bar to check-in. I carried all my luggage through to the bar. The girl there told me "Oh you need to go to the reception desk". I explained about the notice. She then said the duty manager had just returned there and I must've passed her - I hadn't. So I carried everything back to reception. No one there, still the same notice in place. So I went back to the bar. The girl seemed quite put out but said she would check me in at reception. On giving me my key she made no attempt to tell me where to go. I assumed I used the stairs behind me in reception area. However, on checking none of the stairs or doors there went to my room number!! I couldn't see any alternative but to go back to bar to ask the girl. On my way through I spotted some stairs right by the bar room. These did go to my room thankfully. Considering the girl went back that way it would've been courteous for her to direct me rather than me aimlessly walking up snd down stairs with my suitcase trying to locate my room. Once in my room it was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately I didn't sleep due to the town clock chiming every hour and half hour through the night. The shower was powerful and nice and warm. The room needed some tlc. My desk chair was very ripped and in a sorry state. Breakfast was the star of the show. The avocado stack was delicious.

"Fantastic manager, great hotel, 1st class customer service!"
Jason P, 30 Juillet 2023

Stayed last night and was met at reception by the manager, Roxy. What a shining star she was, nothing too much trouble sorted twin room for myself and my brother. I was concerned about our motorcycle security and she offered behind closed doors which to be fair wasn't needed as the hotel and Swaffham is a safe place with minimal crime (motorcycle theft)…I just wanted to offer my sincere thanks for making sure our stay was as good as it could have been. Superstar and the hotel was sound serving a great breakfast (Avocado stack recommended!) thank you!

"Good food and staff"
pauldE5945YL, 05 Juillet 2023

Helpful staff. Clean rooms. Staff were flexible and pleasant. Accommodated our group and provided facilities for 8 by cycles to be securely stored. Enjoyed food. Haddock was excellent. All our group enjoyed the service and food. Recommend

"Average food, and very expensive."
Y9958MMmichaelt, 30 Juin 2023

Travelling through Swaffham and decided to stop and eat at the George Hotel. Once we ordered the meal took ages to turn up,and the room was extremely cold. The food was not very good and we where charge £1 a slice of bread x4.The meal was truely over priced, and could not wait to get out of the place. I would advise no one to stop here for a meal. Its both very expensive and the food if anything is average.

"A good hotel"
Ian S, 19 Juin 2023

This was a comfortable town centre hotel opposite the church and the market place. My room had a lot of traffic noise as it was next to a crossroads but it had all the amenities you would want. Meals and service were good.

"Nice staff"
skoroma, 19 Juin 2023

Nice Hotel to visit very calm and good staff was my first time being in BWGH but I would say I have good sleep. I can only say nice place. I would encourage anyone looking to visit BWGH to have a try.

"Quiet and restful night sleep at The George, plus great brekkie!"
Carlos_Gonzalez2013, 10 Mai 2023

The wife and I stopped at this lovely hotel for one night on our way to the north Norfolk coast from Ipswich and it was the right choice. Comfy bed, clean room and bathroom, quite place and a really nice cooked breakfast the next morning to start our day. All good!

"Good value for money"
Winelover19, 29 Octobre 2022

Stayed overnight, comfortable and quiet room so slept well. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast good and the rooms were clean and tidy with all amenities. The hotel itself is a bit quirky and in need of some refurb

"WHAT A NICE HOTEL"
Aloevee123, 09 Octobre 2022

After reading the reviews for the George I was very surprised by my Visit. The room was clean and tidy. The food was great and they made sure that you had everything that you needed. Every member of staff was polite and nothing was too much of a problem. They made sure that you was happy even on a one night stay. I would recommend the George and next time we are in Norfolk this is the hotel I would book again.

"Great Location"
wakeshall21, 05 Octobre 2022

Our one night stay was great. Easy access for exploring Swaffham and beyond. Plenty of parking for the hotel and all the facilities were of the high standard we have come to know of Best Western. The only downside was hearing the RAF jets at night…..being a light sleeper they kept me awake!

"Lovely Stay!"
Groberty, 23 Septembre 2022

The room was comfortable, the bathroom had a lovely big bath, and the breakfast was lovely. Friendly and helpful staff, clean hotel. I have nothing to criticise! If I am ever back in the area I would certainly stay again.

"Lunchtime meet"
kenbP938RV, 21 Juillet 2022

We met friends here for lunch. We had booked a table in the restaurant for 6 people. The food was good, the price was good and the service was very good. My wife and I have also lunched here in the bar on previous occasions, also very good in all respects. Staff are very friendly.

"Not great but friendly staff"
GraceB12112, 17 Juillet 2022

We arrived at a reasonable time and had to wait for a member of staff to attend reception for at least 10 minutes. They informed us this was due to a wedding taking place elsewhere in the hotel. Room and hotel in general could do with a big refurbishment, as mentioned by other reviews. The bathroom in particular is really not great. If you wish to have a shower with any water pressure, don't stay here! Lots of marks, poor craftsmanship on fixtures and fittings. Lots of marks on carpet and walls. The bed was very large but very firm, which, along with the noises of a unoiled gate all night, did not create a good night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was okay. Definitely seen better breakfast selection, especially at a hotel chain breakfast. As mentioned in previous reviews, the staff are very welcoming and friendly. However, we will not be staying again.

"Swaffham trip"
loveshopping102, 27 Juin 2022

The hotel was centrally located and in easy reach of the town's amenities. Swaffham itself is a busy but small town with a village feel. Eating after 6pm was restricted to The George whose food was excellent in choice and standard.

"Tired hotel in need of refurbishmant"
Washy999, 24 Juin 2022

Whilst we received a pleasant welcome from the receptionist, our stay went downhill from there on. The staff in the hotel bar and restaurant were unwelcoming and the food was mediocre for the price. The hotel room was incredibly dated and basic. The shower was poor, and the toilet was supported by a piece of bare wood. The carpets throughout the hotel wing were threadbare and frayed. Our room was stiflingly hot despite the use of a fan.I have stayed in far superior Travelodge hotels for a better price. I felt that the cost was excessive for what we experienced. We were virtually reprimanded because a 'dog-friendly room' had not been booked, although this has not been clear at the time of booking on Hotels.com, and a hefty additional charge was made. Very poor value for money.

"Nice hotel with a nice bar and restaurant."
MackayJ974, 20 Juin 2022

Pleasant place to stay. If you are a light sleeper you may want to take into account there is a church next door that chimes every 15 mins even throughout the night and on the hour every hour. Restaurant was nice but a bit pricey for the area.

"Great hotel for a reasonably price lunch."
684carlt, 12 Juin 2022

Had a lovely lunch here today (carvery) the staff were really helpful and friendly, they even accommodated our little dog in a dog friendly part of the hotel, the manager went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. The food was delicious and really good size proportions.

"Oh dear....."
U6086IHaidanc, 03 Mai 2022

Well, what can I say. The only really saving grace for this place is the staff. They are lovely. Unfortunately.... This hotel is so outdated I do feel like I have gone way way back in time with a vile mix of floral curtains, stained grey and white carpets, floorboards that creak so bad you feel like your likely to enter the room below, the heating up so high its hotter than my gyms sauna and a cockroach on my bathroom floor. The food isn't bad, but given the cleanliness of my room I am debating preparing the sick bags for my business meeting tomorrow. This is not a quality hotel, please think twice before booking here!! Ade

"GREAT EXPERIENCE"
Mick N, 26 Avril 2022

Had a great 3 night break at the george, swaffham. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was of a good standard with everything you required. Service and food in restuarant and bar was excellent with plenty of choice at a reasonable price. Shall definately return

"Nice meal"
C2275AFsteveh, 02 Avril 2022

Visited Friday night with family , friendly welcome drinks served quickly Had a good meal served on time and very tasty laid back evening will be back , Some of our family stayed and said breakfast was excellent

"The George.Swaffham"
Alpie2015, 20 Mars 2022

We had an excellent experience. The hotel is in the middle of the town.It is very well appointed ,The room, breakfast, bar meals well all very good. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them

"Lovely staff, good home cooking and very relaxing stay"
lavender20186342, 27 Février 2022

We found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. The public rooms are nicely furnished and although our bedroom was perfectly comfortable it could probably do with a bit of refurbishment. The room was nice and dark so it was easy to sleep. We had one evening meal there and two breakfasts and very much enjoyed them. Portions are extremely generous. The hotel is ideally situated for visiting nature reserves nearby and exploring some pretty villages.

"Family reunion trip"
malta-bev, 03 Février 2022

My extended family booked several rooms at the George and we held a Celebration of Life for our late Auntie who was a resident in the town. All rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff were all very friendly, attentive and took an interest in the guests. The food is freshly cooked to order using locally sourced produce. The bar is well stocked with a good range of beers wines and spirits. Easy parking for guests in the well organised car park at the rear of the hotel. The location of the hotel is ideal, in the market town of Swaffham.

"Rooms let them down "
Essexgirlnot, 21 Janvier 2022

This is a lovely old coaching inn type hotel , conveniently situated in the centre of lovely Swaffham . The public rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated . Evening meals and breakfast were excellent and staff friendly. However our room was small and the shower was a mixer tap over the bath: you can rely on better rooms at a well know budget chain : you really can't charge these prices for this.

"Lovely Lunch"
Paul S, 15 Janvier 2022

Had lunch in the bar today which was lovely. Local proper gammon and chips, egg, pineapple and fish and chips. Lady serving us was also lovely. Place was comfortable and clean. Always had nice meals in the George.

"Appalling meal"
jameskM8791HU, 13 Janvier 2022

My wife and I had the misfortune to have a bar lunch in this hotel today. I ordered a bacon, brie and cranberry panini with chips. Instead of cranberry, I was served slimy mushrooms, presumably because they had no cranberry sauce left and hoped I wouldn't notice the difference. The chips had to be seen and tasted to be believed: they were both brunt and soggy at the same time which must be a difficult combination to achieve.. I can only assume the chips were fried sometime the previous week and stuck under a microwave today. My wife's lunch consisted of a lukewarm baked potato with unappetising looking prawns in a tasteless sauce. I felt rather sorry for the waitress having to serve customers this slop. However, my sympathy was short lived as when we complained about the appalling standard of the food, she would only offer a fifteen per cent reduction in the price of my meal. After a long period of closure during lockdown, it would have been no culinary loss if this hotel had closed down permanently.

"Very disappointing"
lizcU6519JW, 06 Janvier 2022

This hotel is very tired and needs a huge facelift. We visited on the 3rd of January and were charged £120 for the night for a twin room plus £10 for our dog! At this cost you would expect a high end hotel but unfortunately not. The bathroom was badly stained with marks in the bath and around the toilet Basin. The carpet was old and worn and the room was on the ground floor which gave us a nice wake up call at 6am when the bin men came to take the rubbish from just outside our room. Very disappointed and extremely expensive for an outdated room. The breakfast area was dark but the food served was hot and tasty. Really the only good part of the whole stay. Breakfast staff also friendly and even gave a sausage to the dog. Shame the hotel doesn't match up to the standards of the staff. The hotel was empty which explains a lot. You need to invest in updating the rooms if you wish to continue charging this rate. I wouldn't of wanted to pay anymore than £40 for this room. Such a shame a lovely from the outside!

"It's not only the rooms that stink!"
256stuartw, 05 Novembre 2021

Terrible place, room smelt musty, also stated by previous reviews. On site manageress and head office director not interested, appalling attitude. These people are not fit to represent the hospitality industry. Head office tried the excuse of the musty smell being cleaning products but when asked for the name of these products they would not forward this information. What a dreadful excuse! Manageress stated she had never had a complaint before but Trip Advisor tells a different story, someone is not being truthful. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

"Worth a Visit"
Sue C, 27 Septembre 2021

Recently stayed here with a coach party for two nights. Room was clean, shower adequate & water very hot. The food was excellent all freshly cooked best I have ever experienced on a coach holiday. The staff were extremely obliging & very courteous. My only criticism is the pillows were dreadful I asked if softer ones were available unfortunately these were not much better. Should I be in the area again I would definitely stay there again & would recommend it to other people.

"Good food & staff - room a little outdated"
iamallovertheplace, 10 Septembre 2021

Had a one-night stay at the George on a recent cycling trip. My room was a bit of a step back in time, both decor and function wise, but the meal I had in the bar was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly - so overall a good stay for my first visit to Swaffham.

"Words fail me"
peterseubert, 03 Septembre 2021

Night one If you like showers that trickle out this is for you. If you like toilets that don't work correctly this is for you. If you like plumbing systems that rumble all night this is for you. Night two New room looks better, but worse issues than night one. Toilet is a mulching type, run a bath and the toilet runs, run water into sink and the toilet runs. Empty bath, and the shower drain backs up filling the shower tray with poop. Clearly the plumbing is not correct. Cannot be positive about this hotel. Mentioned all this when paying at the end only to fall on deaf ears. No real apology given. Stopped in many best western hotels over the years and this is the worst by some distance, book at your peril.

"Centrally placed hotel ideal for exploring local area"
JDP45, 27 Août 2021

Stayed for 3 nights, friendly welcoming staff, comfortable rooms, well appointed. Excellent food with very good selection, ample car parking and quiet location Will definitely stay here again, highly recommended

"A hidden gem"
billfinnimore, 22 Août 2021

Comfortable accommodation, efficient helpful courteous and friendly staff. Excellent dining experience. Lovely breakfast. Really good value for money. Room comfortable and perfectly adequate. General decor a little wearied.

"Fantastic Sunday Carvery"
Paul S, 15 Août 2021

Just had a wonderful relaxed carvery lunch. The food was fantastic as was the wonderful relaxed atmosphere with brilliant staff . Well done all. £11.95 for 1 course, £14.95 for two and £16:95 for 3 courses. Excellent value.

"Good value stay"
MarkandJulieDavis, 07 Août 2021

We stayed for 2 nights in early August. The hotel is in the centre of this quaint market town opposite a lovely looking church. Although it is on the main cross roads there was not that much traffic noise. The reception staff were welcoming and keen to help. Yes the rooms are somewhat dated, but very clean and very comfortable beds. The breakfast was excellent with good quality produce and service. We used the bar facilities and had our evening meal at the hotel. There was a wide range of dishes and the ones we had were great quality. All of the staff at the hotel were very welcoming and keen to help. Overall this was a great value option.

"Good Value."
501margareta, 06 Août 2021

Comfortable and well appointed. Rooms comfortable with tea making restocked daily. Good shower pressure. Very comfortable beds.Local establishment and popular. Small outside sitting area. Smoking area. Staff excellent.

"Very accommodating"
nickling710, 26 Juillet 2021

The staff were very friendly and accommodating as we'd turned up on the wrong date. They went out of their way to sort this out and then we had a nice cooked meal and the breakfast was also very nice with a good menu.

"Nice enough but let down by an appalling breakfast"
John G, 06 Juin 2021

The setting is great an historic building in the centre of a lively market town. Yes the décor is a little tired but the rooms are comfortable enough and very clean. I could even forgive the almost £4 for a tiny bottle of beer, this is Norfolk not Notting Hill but the breakfast is unforgivable. The cheapest possible ingredients in minute portions all of which had clearly been under a heat lamp for hours. The knife bounced off the poor excuse for a sausage and struggled to dissect the bacon which seemed to have been taken from a rubber pig and I suspect this was not the first breakfast service that the baked beans had seen. Had this not been part of the room rate the hotel would have wanted £11+ for this culinary joke. I fail to understand why you would risk your reputation to save a few pence on ingredients and a few pounds to employ someone capable of cooking beyond the level of school dinners?

"Nice place "
Paul S, 10 Mars 2020

Stayed for one night. The room was a good size, Enormous bed, very clean and room warm. All staff were friendly and the food in the restaurant and at breakfast ( good quality ingredients)was excellent. Good value

"Amazing breakfast"
MatiJanko, 06 Février 2020

I visited George hotel in business last month, rooms were nice and tidy and staff very helpful, big car park is great. Food in restaurant was not the best I've ever had but good enough for evening while your working and have no time to go anywhere else but breakfast is great big choice and good quality.

"OVERNIGHT STOPOVER. "
Flying_Demon, 20 Janvier 2020

Stayed over on a Saturday night whilst visiting the area. Check-in was friendly and efficient. Room allocated was on the first floor and more than adequate although decor a tad dated. I decided to eat at the hotel, they have a bar and eating area which was very busy so opted to eat in the Green Room restaurant which was a more formal setting but less busy. They offered a three course meal for £27 and later found out that this was a relatively new menu. I opted for a Salmon Roulade to start with followed by Steak and finished off with a lemon mouse dessert, all the dishes were presented well, very generous portions, delicious and represented excellent value.

"Meal with Family"
magsps, 20 Janvier 2020

Visiting family, who live locally and eat her regularly. We ordered scampi and fish, which were acceptable, but one of our party ordered the Duck, which was virtually inedible as it was tough and dry. She asked for some gravy, which did come, but the meat was parcelled up to take home for the dog. To be fair, when we told our waitress, they cut the cost of the meal, and only charged for 3/4 of the desserts, which were again, passble. Would have been better if all desserts had arrived together, and coffee afterwards instead of first though. Disappointing.

"No food no bar."
pandbyeldham, 15 Janvier 2020

We arrived after a very stressful day to be told that there there was no food available nor was the bar opened as the staff party was that night. We would not have booked had they told us when we booked.

"Really well run hotel"
James L, 08 Janvier 2020

I stayed here a couple of years ago and was looking forward to my return. I wasn't disappointed! From the warm welcome at the reception, to the spacious and comfortable room, through to the excellent bar and restaurant, everything was great. Oh, and the breakfast was excellent too.

"Wonderful traditional English Hotel"
K1106GAmichaelb, 05 Janvier 2020

A truest lovely English Hotel. Very unusual to find such a great Hotel. Traditional English Hotel of quality. Really enjoyed our stay. Will certainly return. The staff were really attentive and the restaurant was as we liked. Breakfast was exceptional.

"Needs Improvement"
deano223, 02 Décembre 2019

Arrived on a saturday afternoon when checked in i asked for extra pillows and was given the death stare by the receptionist but in fairness she did deliver them' On entering the room we where given in the old part of the building it was a throw back to the 70's but it was clean and the bed was comfortable the breakfast was good on both days and the waiting staff where pleasant , Now saturday night it was minus 3 Degrees we had three raditors in our room two of which never worked and the knobs to turn them off or on had been removed we woke up cold at 4am in the morning sunday i asked receptionist if i could get a heater i was told there are three raditors in that room yes but 2 dont work well there is an electric heater in the wardrobe No there is a fan i then asked why the heating is turned off at night in the winter her reply i turn mine off and have the window open the same receptionist was on monday morning there was no thank you have a safe journey nothing rude she needs some customer service training i must say the receptionist on sunday evening was lovely .

"Carvery bliss"
Bigeaterjohna, 28 Novembre 2019

Eat a couple of times a month here mostly the Sunday carvery which is very good and looked after by attentive staff, we also ate in the restaurant a couple of weeks which again was really good food at what I would call reasonable prices and again the staff were most attentive And after its lick of paint it also looks very fresh and smart

"Amazing wedding reception"
helen S, 05 Novembre 2019

We recently held our wedding reception here and from the start, the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, especially Trisha, nothing was too much trouble. Our reception was held in the dining room which was very lovely and just perfect for our needs, and allowed us to achieve the intimate setting we wanted. The menu was a very reasonably priced 3 course banquet, with a very good choice of 3 different set menus, the food was absolutely delicious and everyone was served within minutes. Afterwards they let us have a snug area to spend the rest of the evening and we had a delicious buffet. We had booked several rooms, and they accommodated some specific room requirements helping to make the stay comfortable. We were beautifully well looked after and would recommend this venue for anyone who is wanting a lovely intimate wedding reception. We thank you for making our day stress free and extremely memorable.

"Needs refurbishing "
150tillyc, 03 Novembre 2019

Stayed here on business for 1 night last week. Rooms are a generous size but decor does need seriously updating. Floral tiled bathrooms and sink in your bedroom. The dinner was cheap and cheerful but the brownie was very dry and burnt.

"Best stay in Swaffham"
Ambassador466919, 02 Novembre 2019

Staff are lovely and very helpful. Rooms are clean with all amenities that you could need. An extensive folder for guests with lots of info. Plenty of space in car park. Breakfast quality and choice was superb

"Can't fault it"
Andy M, 19 Octobre 2019

One night stay at this hotel which is situated in the centre of town and a couple of minutes walk from shops and pubs. We stayed in the old part of the hotel, the room was spacious and comfortable and despite being adjacent to the main road the room was quiet. Access to the car park is via a gated entrance at the side of the building which opens to allow access but you will require a disc from reception when leaving to lift the barrier. We decided to eat in the hotel and opted for a bar meal and I am glad we did, we both chose fish and chips which at £7.99 was good value, the chips were hand cut and thrice cooked and were the best I had tasted with the fish freshly cooked and crispy, well recommended. The staff were all very pleasant and efficient and the breakfast the following morning which was included was of good quality. Would we stay here again, yes.most definitely this hotel would be our first choice should we visit this area again.

"Very enjoyable long weekend"
David W, 02 Octobre 2019

We used the George as our base to explore Norfolk and had very enjoyable break. The staff were friendly and welcoming the food at breakfast and dinner was very good. Our room was in the newer wing to the rear of the hotel it was comfortable and everything worked.

"Nice stay"
Cambs45, 02 Octobre 2019

Arrived and check in was quick and simple, woman behind the desk was helpful but would not hurt a smile. Room was old fashioned but we liked it as it had character that you don't see in chain hotels, bed was massive and WiFi good. We had a good nights sleep very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was nice but at £11.99 a tad expensive for what it was. All in all would recommend if you got the room 203.

"Well worth a visit"
r_sumner52, 21 Septembre 2019

When I go abroad I try to eat where the locals eat. A lot of the residents of Swaffham eat at the George Hotel! Says it all as far as I am concerned. Food was excellent with a good variety to choose from.

"Swaffham Centre Hotel"
Anthony653, 19 Septembre 2019

Great hotel with friendly helpful staff in the centre of Swaffham. Ample secure parking at the side of the hotel. The food in the restaurant and bar is good value and excellent quality. The steak night is recommended

"George Hotel Swaffhan uk"
DavidC11720, 19 Septembre 2019

Excellent staff could not help enough, the room I i was in was a little dated , but very clean which is the main thing, hotel breakfast first class, good internet connection , A nice and homely friendly hotel

"Comfortable and in a nice location"
Jamie L, 13 Septembre 2019

Loads of local amenities, plenty of pubs/food places within walking distance. Comfortable bed and a decent nights sleep. Had issues with breakfast service though.. breakfast is served from 07:00 onwards. As we were setting off early we got down to the restaurant for 06:50am. We were instantly greeted by a member of staff who got us our coffee so thought we were off to a good start, but come 07:00 the restaurant filled with guests and the waitresses took everyone else's orders before ours. We didn't actually get served untill 07:30am!

"Nice overnight stay"
Elcoronel, 05 Septembre 2019

Just one night here on our way to the coast. Very big, private car park and efficient reception lady. The room was fine, if a bit dated. The bathroom was a bit dark as there was no window, but not uncommon in hotels of this type. Dinner in the restaurant was good value and the barman was a friendly chap with a good knowledge of the beers available. We had a very restful sleep and were greeted with a substantial breakfast, freshly cooked for us. Certainly no complaints - the staff were all excellent and the place was spotlessly clean. The hotel is very convenient for visiting the centre of Swaffham and a good stopover for a night or two.

"Dated but clean."
Rebecca G, 01 Septembre 2019

The hotel was very dated but clean. We had a family room which consisted of two rooms joined by a private corridor and private bathroom. The full English breakfast was cooked to order so not left under a heat lamp to dry out. Very friendly staff.

"Excellent"
Bev3317, 31 Août 2019

We have just spent 2 night at The George Hotel and we would highly recommend it, great location, all the staff are very helpful and friendly and can't do enough for you, everywhere is nice and clean, we only had breakfast there but that was nice fresh food, well cooked and nicely presented, our bedroom (117) was more than adequate for our 2 night, beds were comfy and clean, plenty of tea and coffee provided there was a fan in the room, the bathroom was small but was everything you needed, shampoo, body wash, shower cap etc provided but if you had forgotten anything you only had to ask reception and they would provide it, toothpaste etc but to be honest you are right in the centre of Swaffham surrounded by the shops so you could get anything you need. Only down side is you are right next to the church which the bells chime every hour and every quarter, but to be honest you soon ignore it. We met up with family and spent the day at Felbrigg Hall, which was an hours drive from Swaffham, but it was fantastic, they provide electric scooters for free for people who have difficulty in walking, my husband has difficulty in walking so we borrowed one but gave them a small donation as a thank you because it meant he could look around the gardens and enjoy it and not have to worry about being in too much pain or finding the walking too much, the cafe area is great and allows dogs but you can't take dogs in the house etc, the food was nice and fresh, the house was amazing you are greeted at the front by a wonderful guide who explains all the history of the hall etc then you can go and walk through at your leisure and for those who can't go upstairs there is a tv room at the end of the house which shows you the whole upstairs. We decided to joined the National trust while we were there as we were so Impressed with everything it made us want to go and see more places and for £10 per month its very good, seen as the entrance fee is usually about £12 per person, it will give us all a great excuse to meet up with family and friends and see lots of interesting places.

"Enjoyable stay"
glendrovers, 15 Août 2019

Very comfortable and friendly hotel. The staff went out of their way to ensure I was well cared for. The bar has a good selection of wines at reasonable prices. The food they serve is fresh and very good. I was traveling alone and felt very safe in the hotel and bar. The hotel has recently opened a nice clean smoking area where you can sit in the sun and relax in comfort ( which makes a pleasant change from some hotels that I have stayed in, that treat smokers like second class citizens!) I will definitely be staying there again. The rooms are a bit dated but cleanliness is excellent.

"Good food and service"
louiseb230, 09 Août 2019

Hadn't been in here for such a long time and was unsure what to expect. The person serving behind the bar was friendly and polite, helpful with making a drink choice. We sat in a corner to have a good catch up and it was nice and quiet, relaxed atmosphere. I had the George burger and my friend had the vegetable pasta, my burger was great. We also ordered pudding and these were both fantastic. It was very good value for money. All staff we came into contact with were lovely. It was just such a nice place to sit and have a good gossip

"Weekend wedding"
UKjaysee, 26 Juillet 2019

Good car park, check in easy with lovely lady on reception. Room in the old part of the hotel, all creaky floorboards, dated decor, but large comfy bed and so far all OK. Pre booked a table in the Green Room restaurant and this is where the problems started....... ordered our starters 1 xKorean chicken 1 x salmon tian..... got 2 x Korean chicken. OK mistakes happen. Tian arrived with an apology that there was, in fact, no crab in it. Ordered a bottle of Petit Chablis which came to the table uncorked with the waitress saying she thought it was a screw cap!! It then disappeared to the bar to be uncorked. Mains were duck; OK, a bit tough, but let down by an unseasoned sauce; and slow cooked belly pork, with the unusual description of Binham Blue, which, if I'm not mistaken is a cheese??? . This came out with completely unseasoned cauliflower, deep fried crackling and an apple pie. Staff constantly apologising to customers. Stay here by all means, but give the restaurant a wide berth.

"Fantastic Hotel with the personal feel"
Jason S, 26 Juillet 2019

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights (room 56) Staff were fantastic and really looked after you, nothing was to much. Breakfast was great (Eggs Benedict) Only had an evening meal twice and both times really good. Bar had a very good pint of Guinness. Would definitely stop their again if I'm in that area.

"Suprised party"
Curiosity68173593490, 01 Juillet 2019

Golden wedding anniversary party for inlaws! Function room was ideal, buffet was value for money, disco was excellent all the staff was very friendly and helpful, price of drinks was good. Every one enjoyed.

"Not good value for money"
Wander47278106723, 27 Juin 2019

Had to wait 10 minutes before checking in this was due to the customer in front having problems with his payment cards. Layout of hotel means you have to walk through the bar to get to the stairs. Double room was small and had the smallest En Suite I have ever encountered.

"Words Can't Explain....."
Leahb2507, 21 Juin 2019

This hotel is dated and dirty. I stayed in room 51 and when I complained that I'd paid £109 a night, I would expect a better room. The reply was this is one of our refurbished rooms, what a joke! Make your own mind up from the pictures. I didn't want to stay the 2nd night but I was told they would still take payment from me if I went. The pillows are that flat I would hate to think the last time they were changed, the same with the duvet. The room smelt fusty and dirty and we couldn't open a window as our room faced the staff yard where they hang washing. I saw the rooms advertised the nights I was staying at £84 and said could they at least charge me that much, I was advised this was not possible. I would never ever stay here again and had I known the area I'd have booked The Red Lion as we had a couple of drinks there to discover they also done room, cheaper and 100% better. Describe this hotel in 5 words Over priced, dirty, old fashioned, faulty towers, hell hole

"Good value hotel"
helenp806, 16 Juin 2019

Extremely good value, very helpful and friendly staff, public areas tastefully decorated, nice bar, with good pub grub. Rooms are a little dated in comparison but clean and tidy, large comfortable bed.

"Dated"
ratkinson48, 10 Juin 2019

A group of 7 of us stayed at this hotel for a family gathering with two other members coming along for an evening meal. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the meal we had was good ( despite a mix up with one of the main courses). Downstairs the decor is what you would expect from a hotel in a small market town, but going upstairs was like going back in time. Everything was brown in our room , it was single glazed and so there was lots of condensation in the morning, the bed was vv large which was a bonus, but you could feel the springs, saying that we slept well. The bathroom was interesting, we had a bath with shower over, but try as I might I could find no way of filling the bath other than through the shower . In another bathroom there was apparently a block of wood wedged behind the taps for some reason. The tiles needed ripping out and the grout was dirty. Carpets were threadbare in places. The whole accommodation area seemed to need a total refit. We joked about doing a gorilla type makeover - but it would have taken far too long! The staff were doing a good job in difficult circumstances, well done them!

"Thank you to staff"
jackibowyer, 09 Juin 2019

I'd like to mention how good the all the staff were at The George and especially Sue on reception who very kindly offered to return an item of property I mistakenly left in the room. She was very gracious about my own careless!

"Convenient stopover"
Lizziewhitson, 22 Mai 2019

We felt that the staff went out of their way to accommodate us as we were a group of 8. We had dinner and drinks which were really good value. The roast beef was a generous size and good quality. My bed was comfy but others said theirs was a bit hard. Overall a good choice for our stopover with plenty of parking and all the amenities we needed.

"The George Best western"
Passenger09434702386, 20 Mai 2019

I stayed at The George Hotel, Best Western in May. My two Daughters accompanied me (15 and 2yrs old) and we stayed in a family room. The room layout was brilliant and was homely, clean and had a huge bed. The Lady on reception on check in and check out was friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay and slept very well. Breakfast was amazing. I would definitely recommend.

"Not recommended"
AnonymousTBA, 11 Avril 2019

I don't really like to leave bad reviews but I feel that the visit requires one. We stayed in this hotel as it was fairly close to family in the area. We also chose it as it's a Best Western, we went with a brand we recognised. Unfortunately that was a mistake! Firstly the hotel rooms look like they haven't had a refit, or clean for that matter, since the 60s (as you'll see from those wall tiles in the photo). Our room was, well filthy, particularly the bathroom. We have stayed in hotels in different parts of the world, independents and chains, and this was by far the worse in terms of cleanliness. The bathroom in particular - the fan above the toilet sounded like it was going to fall on your head and rattled like a helicopter, the floor had balls of dust all around, the door didn't really close (which was right by the door to the room!), the shower head was clogged with black scale (I managed to take a photo), the lighting was awful but you could easily see the rings in the toilet bowl and the sink hadn't been cleaned. Then, the bed! The sheets were dirty! Oh the list could go on ... needless to say, we didn't sleep very well and when we visit the area again, we will most definitely look elsewhere.

"Lovely weekend stay"
mayabee041, 09 Avril 2019

After arriving at the wrong hotel in Dereham, we are glad we ended back up in Swaffham. we had a lovely stay during a quiet weekend at the hotel. Breakfast staff were friendly although looked tired. Room was tired but functional and nothing different to other best westerns we have stayed in. Receptionist at check in (Elise or Eliza we think) was very helpful and friendly throughout the stay, also she served us at the carvery on Sunday what was also delicious. Thanks for a nice stay will be back.

"Friendly and comfy but very dated"
B719HMbeths, 07 Avril 2019

I visited the George with my Mum as she grew up in Swaffham and wanted to go back for old times sake. It was my first visit, and first and foremost it is such a friendly place, and this is emphasised within the hotel. It was nice to have free parking, and the exterior of the hotel looks great. The receptionist was super friendly, and it was a nice touch to have free fruit and soft drinks in the reception area. The place did look very ‘tired' though, and whilst a modern refurbishment might be a future plan, even simple things like new cushions on the chairs would help ... they looked about 50 years old! Anyway, the twin room we had was functional. Again, very dated and tired. The beds seemed smaller than usual, but I have to say they were super comfortable. I had a great nights sleep. It did feel like we had stepped back in time (in comparison to hotels I've stayed in both in the UK and Europe), but at the same time there was something quite comforting about it. We had a meal in the restaurant, and whilst the menu suggested ‘pub grub' the dishes were great. I ordered a sea bass dish which was possibly the loveliest restaurant meal I've had for a long time. Not the cheapest but worth the money. We had visited during Mother's Day weekend, so I think the hotel was particularly busy, and when we went to the bar it was clear there were no tables. The staff didn't seem flustered and we were given a lovely table in the restaurant. The waiter was fantastic, and whilst there was a large party next to us, we felt that we were given equal attention despite not having booked. The staff couldn't have been any better. Again, we ate in the restaurant for breakfast which I thought was amazing. The waitress was so lovely, and there were loads of choices. I chose continental, but there's a cooked breakfast menu that they clearly adapted for individual requests. I couldn't fault it. On booking out, again, it was extremely friendly. I would certainly return to the hotel if I ever visit Swaffham again.

"An unassuming provincial heritage hotel"
Stephen B, 05 Mars 2019

Rather pricey for what you get but then the only other proper hotel in town is even more expensive. If you need to stay in Swaffham this is adequate accommodation. Mention though of the good personal attention given by all staff encountered. Breakfast well presented and of high quality.

"ok but nothing special"
HeadAcheOnASunday, 22 Février 2019

Needed to meet someone in Swaffham for a business chat over dinner. Had one of the chef's specials (which seemed to be the only menu on offer), all fairly expensive. I had lamb chops, the chops themselves where delicious but the accompanying vegetables were very poorly cooked and really spoilt the meal. At 18.95 for just a main I would expect much better. Could not fault the service and the beer was excellent.

"Christmas meal on way to Thursford"
DeborahG1960, 11 Décembre 2018

Fantastic service from very knowledgeable staff. Food was well presented and of top quality. Excellent value for money on food and drinks. Although very busy we were served in very good time and the staff always had time for their customers if there was a query that needed sorting out. We will definitely be returning in the future.

"Overnighter"
Paskinator, 07 Décembre 2018

Lovely hotel in a cracking spot in the market town of Swaffham. Staff were exceptional throughout- so helpful. They need an award or something. The room was slightly dated but very clean. Unfortunately the bed did sag in the middle which was the only disappointment otherwise the room was really homely and fit in with the style of the traditional hotel. The evening meal was delicious. I had the veggie black and blue burger. Superb! I've got to say the best part of the stay was the breakfast, inviting breakfast area, really helpful staff member and something that I can only describe as the tastiest breakfast I have ever had on the road. Poached eggs cooked to perfection, baked beans that were above premium quality and exceptionally sourced bread. My total compliments to the breakfast chef who turned out quality. If I was in Norfolk I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Well done.

"So help full"

"Traditional market town hotel."
Wayne Jones J, 06 Novembre 2018

Creaky floors and swirly carpets, as is typical of these establishments but scrupulously clean, quiet and comfortable. A decent Sunday lunch which was reasonably priced. Worth considering if you wish to stop over in Swaffham.

"Good value stay"
HillwalkerN, 27 Octobre 2018

We spent last night staying at the George Hotel in Swaffham. We were attending an event at Oxburgh Hall and this hotel proved very convenient for staying afterwards. We have had meals in this hotel many years ago and were very pleased to find that it still served very tasty food. We opted for dinner in the restaurant which is comfortable and cheery. The service was efficient and friendly. The menu is extensive and we wondered whether this would result in second class food but this certainly wasn't the case. Both my fish and my husband's steak were hot, tasty and well presented. We followed these with two delicious desserts which, at £4.95, were excellent value. Our room was warm, important on a very cold evening, comfortable and had everything necessary for a short stay. This was followed by a choice from a wide breakfast selection, all good, served by a cheerful and helpful waitress. We felt that the George represented excellent value for money and wouldn't hesitate to use it again for either an overnight stay or a restaurant meal.

"Comfortable, great position in town, yet aged!"
SezJJ, 25 Octobre 2018

A lovely well positioned hotel. Friendly staff. Ask for low level rooms as there are no lifts and very steep stairs. Bathroom is a lovely size, the room we were in was very old fashioned and needed a bit of tlc. The floor was very creaky, old wardrobe, the room door was very stiff to open and close, there is no double glazing. (luckily warm weather but can't imagine being there in winter.). The WiFi didn't work and when I reported it I was advised to use the reception area, which wasn't useful due to the footfall and small area. We did have some damp on the wall by the window, didn't ruin our stay but it is a dated building.

"No Sleep"
931ChrisR, 22 Octobre 2018

Good location if you are visiting Swaffham. Car park handy. Stayed in one of the old rooms on the second floor - very 70s - an awful damp smell in the stairwells and corridors. Decor in need of a serious revamp. Our bed sagged in the middle and resulted in us not sleeping. We left at 5.30 am and when asked why we were going so early - I told them about the bed and was told they could do nothing about that! How about a new bed? The blood speckled pillowcase hadn't inspired much confidence either. My wife couldn't get any hot water out of the shower. We went to the bar for dinner - but the stodge on other people's plates put us off. My pint of beer was disgusting and I only drank a quarter of it - I didn't bother complaining as I doubted the barman would be able to cope. The boulders cider was flat as a pancake - probably not the hotel's fault bu again I doubted complaining would be effective so my daughter left that too. In the end we went to Tesco and bought some sandwiches and went to our room. £116 - not happy at all.

"Ghastly"
Scrumpyway, 16 Octobre 2018

Rude, arrogant staff, unhelpful, can't comment on rooms as there for a meeting. Best Western were good when replying but the hotel, useless. The meeting was for people who had been defrauded, one of whom was a cancer victim but the plight of these folks meant nothing to the staff as they grudgingly sought to get us off the premises as soon as possible.

"Pretty good"
Robbie S, 25 Septembre 2018

I have never really left a review on here before, but I feel that I need to. I want to say a huge thank you to all the staff at ‘ The George' as once again, we have had a fantastic stay. You need to keep in mind this hotel is only 3 star, so you are getting what you pay for, cheap and cheerful. What makes the stay great is the lovely staff, who are a credit to the place. We always find the young receptionist who also waitresses sometimes very caring and efficient, always is willing to help out. Well done to her. There is always minor issue's when I visit, such as slow wifi, water pressure … but nothing you wouldn't expect from a old building. Food is reasonable prices and very well done, give it a good. Will be likely to return so, we hope! Thank you George.

"Shoddy Swaffham"
ianinman, 25 Septembre 2018

Checked into room 107 (double room and three steps up to open the door!), loud machinery noise & vibration, I was told at reception that room 107 was above the kitchen and they must have had the potato peeling machine in operation. I insisted on being moved and we settled for room 115 (a twin).Average room, no issues but bathroom dark, tired & grubby. Noisy extractor fan (clearly a bearing issue) and only one light about the bathroom mirror, very odd and added to the 'dim' experience.Cleanliness wasn't bad but on the first morning the room was barely serviced, I think they only made the beds. Used towels & toiletries went replaced and our soap went missing? On the second morning (22nd Sep) it was a different experience and everything was cleaned & changed, clearly a different member of staff working that day.WiFi was non-existent, unable to log on for the entire three days we were there? At ground floor level everything appears clean & tidy. Go up the stairs and the carpet is worn & grubby, walls tired, scuffed, shabby & dirty.Breakfast was good but staff poor, kept disappearing (a bit like Mr Benn for those who remember him), struggled to get a second pot of coffee. We only ate in the restaurant on one evening and food was fine, our waitress was lovely (only wish I had gotten her name for my BW review). Only issue came when we asked to pay the bill rather than charge it to our room when another lady took over. The card reader couldn't leave the bar area so we had to go in there and wait five minutes to pay as they were very busy. Not the bar mans fault (Graham I think) he was very polite but busy and rushed off his feet. The following morning (our last) we got questioned about whether we had paid our bill the previous evening as another guest had not given their room number to the restaurant staff and there was an outstanding bill for food to be paid for. I offered to show them my receipt but they declined and said it was OK.Would I go back, certainly not.I checked previous review before booking and can't believe how other guests have rated this hotel so high? believe me its not; Its tired & grubby and the guests rooms & bathrooms need modernising, its substandard. This is my third stay at BW this year so I know what to normally expect. I usually turn a blind eye to minor issues and don't leave reviews, this time I felt I needed to.If your thinking of staying here my advice is don't, look elsewhere.

"Feeling second class"
tcmt2012, 24 Septembre 2018

Used Clubcard points to pay and did feel that we had been given a room that maybe wasn't of the same standard as if we had paid ourselves. Room in 'attic' level, no lifts so not good if struggle with stairs. Room on busy main road, very noisy. Room dated with a dreary feel to it. Pictures on wall dull and ugly, bathroom dated with different colours of suite! Extractor fan VERY noisy as was toilet cistern which took a long time to refill, bathroom door difficult to close. Breakfast good, staff friendly except for head receptionist questioning whether we needed to pay for a breakfast that was included in the price when we checked out, making us uncomfortable and embarrassed.I had to show her a copy of my email to prove that we weren't trying to get out of paying! Unfortunately this was our last and overall memory of our stay which left us feeling upset and somewhat offended! Don't use vouchers if you stay here and you may have a better experience.

"One night stay"
Deborah T, 24 Septembre 2018

Room was a little dated and the bathroom was tiny. If the rooms had a bit of an overhaul this Hotel would be perfect as the beds were very comfy and the staff were all lovely! Ate in the Restaurant, and couldn't fault it, good food and excellent service!

"Tired!"
Chris F, 18 Septembre 2018

Let's start with the positives. All the members of staff I had contact with were great. Night porter set up breakfast so I could have a continental breakfast before I left early in the morning. Now the downside. This hotel is seriously dated. One of the worst rooms I have stayed in for years of business travel. Basin was in the room rather than the bathroom. Bathroom was dingy and had loads of hot pipes in so was baking hot. Bed was a tiny single and when I moved in it the floor creaked so sleep was almost impossible. Wi-fi didn't work which looks like an issue in loads of reviews. I needed a hotel as close to Swaffham as possible. Next time I'll travel further from a Premier Inn! They're better and cheaper.

"Cheap and cheerful lunch"
Malcolm D, 15 Septembre 2018

Were in Swaffham to go to the green centre but this had closed a few months before. So, we ventured into the town proper and visited the museum and thencame to the George for lunch. The food was basic but good, the lunchtime offers were very good value. The cod dog came with the tartare sauce already on the fish which was a bit of an issue for one of use, but they swapped it out quickly enough. Would probably go back if we went, but there are several places to try as alternatives.

"Nice hotel and restaurant - no WiFi when we stayed"
uktravailer, 27 Août 2018

This is a nice historic hotel with a newer extension and car park at rear. There is a formal dining room and bar with more casual dining too. The rooms were clean and tidy. We had the "family room" which consists of two separate rooms and a shared bathroom which was very good. Staff were friendly enough and but we were unable to get WiFi during our stay which was annoying. If I had been on a business trip this would have been a major setback and it was disappointing that the staff could not simply reset the router since they "have no access to the WiFi," so we were told. Overall a pleasant overnight stay.

"Very welcoming "
charlottelily31, 27 Août 2018

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely young lady named Eliza who was very polite and helpful when we were trying to find a place to eat. Would definitely recommend to eat at this hotel as good is good price for the service and quality of taste. All staff very welcoming including waiter and waitress however Eliza was most helpful.

"Good food and sevice"
Jane B, 27 Août 2018

Went here for a 50th birthday party. Had a lovely evening and a lovely meal. There was nearly 50 guests but the service was great. I had roast beef which was very tender but there was no option to have pink meat which is the only reason for not giving the place the highest rating. My dad is quite infirm these days and needs a glass with a handle and the lady at the bar very kindly went and got from the other bar when asked. The temperature of the room was perfect, the chairs were very comfortable and they had made the place look lovely.

"Not informed about bar closure"
2018Gordon, 21 Août 2018

My wife and I took our small dog to the hotel for a couple of nights break. When we arrived, we were informed that the bar was closed for refurbishment, unfortunately, the only public area we could take our dog was an area of the bar. The hotel had made provisions for other guests by offering table service for drinks in the dining room but as we had a dog, our only option was to sit outside and although this area was OK it was overrun by wasps making the experience unpleasant. The staff were very good and tried to help us as much as they could but we feel that we should have been informed about the refurbishment - we would have rescheduled if we had known. The room we had was old and tired and is in desperate need of refurbishment.Overall, what could have been a lovely break was spoilt by a lack of communication on behalf of the hotel.

"Lunch stop on our way to holiday."
Irene O, 06 Août 2018

A very welcoming hotel, welcomed our dog into the bar area where we had a superb lunch, well presented and very tasty, also a bowl of water for the dog. Staff very approachable and friendly also very helpful as my husband is quite disabled.

"Weekend with a friend"
Fiona G, 06 Août 2018

I have given this hotel 4 stars because there is no Good in between. However apart from the staff, who were exceedingly cheerful, helpful and accommodating the hotel itself doesn't deserve 4 stars because it definitely needs an update. Decor throughout is tired and dated with lots of plastic flower arrangements around which needed a good wash! The room (twin bedded on the ground floor overlooking the car park) was dark and a bit dull and bathroom in dire need of a restoration. The evening meal in the bar was jolly, too jolly at one time with small children from a wedding party who were causing havoc. Once we had eaten we moved out to the lounge area. Roz on bar was very apologetic and understanding. The food was well cooked but heavy and limited. No light choices until I spied a Summer Salad menu but it was too late! No Specials Board. Breakfast on Sunday was from 8 - 11am which was lovely and well cooked although I believe they served tinned mushrooms .... and my friend couldn't get any white bread for toast, (she didn't ask though) I on the other hand asked for hot milk with my coffee and it was quickly brought out. A suggestion and that is ear plugs should be mandatory as I was literally kept awake almost all night with the church clock striking every 1/4 hour! Has made Monday a day of rest! All in all, a good make over for decor but can't fault the staff and service.

"Talk about room 100 - Not as expected by far....."
Steve C, 26 Juillet 2018

We had a wedding to attend in July so booked for two double rooms well in advance, months plus... We were travelling up from Cornwall and arrived at 2200 hrs very tired and weary. Booked in to hotel and provided key for room - 101, should have guessed at this point... went in the room to find the bathroom window was fixed, a non opener. The bedroom widow had frosted glass and although it was dark when we arrived we could make out we overlooked the kitchens/roof top with fans blasting, pipework and nothing else.. We asked to be moved and was told that there was nothing else. Never again.. On inspection we suspect the room had already been occupied by someone else as there were ring marks next to the tea and coffee facility and we suspect that these also complained and were moved earlier in the day.... As we were the last to arrive there was nothing else. According to the duty manager, this is one of the better rooms in the hotel, I thought she was joking.... We respectfully asked for a reduction but this was declined... Before we left, room 100 door was open and being cleaned, lovely outlook, and lovely room. Our room should have been used for the staff or storage, not paying guests...

"Expensive for what it has to offer"
Nostrarobus, 22 Juillet 2018

Should have probably guessed that may not be quite up to expectations when the hotel failed to acknowledge communication made a week prior to our stay indicating that the newly weds in our party we to be staying at the hotel for their wedding night. Hotel is showing a number of signs of age although appears to be reasonably well maintained. Would expect air conditioning in hotel in this price range, but some desk fans had been provided. Bathroom very dated. Lack of sockets in the room and none available near to bed. Beds all different sizes across the rooms in our group despite paying the same price for each. Served breakfast quite good, but the buffet area where cereals, juices, pastries etc are available is not very accessible and squeezed right next to others diners tables - not a particularly great set up. Main issue relates to check out. On two occasions I confirmed with the front desk that there was no requirement to pay on departure contrary to my expectation. I was assured it was all settled. Three days later, the hotel responded to my initial correspondence only to now ask for payment rather than apologising for not responding earlier. Would I visit again, not at these room rates. Recommend? No

"Home from home"
Leigh M, 16 Juillet 2018

I stay at the George at least once a week, sometimes twice. I love it, all the staff are friendly and helpful, the beds are extremely comfortable, the rooms are always clean and I can make several hot drinks in my room. There is a quiet calm restaurant or the buzzing bar to choose from. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced with huge portions. Staying away from home for work is a drag but I'm always happy to stay at the George ??

"Old style hotel with great service"
SUSAN C, 14 Juillet 2018

Room was very spacious and quite comfortable with all facilities but over-warm. As right above the road it was noisy due to traffic. But we knew it was an old building so made allowances. Enjoyed the creaky floorboards and twisting corridors. Breakfast and dinner were good but best feature was really friendly and pleasant staff everywhere

"Shocking rude, terrible"
Scrumpyway, 01 Juillet 2018

Rented a conference room this evening for two hours but got charged for a third hour because I asked to get into the empty room early to set up. Shocking rude receptionist SUE - disgraceful attitude and it was a real hassle for her to show us how the lights turned on. It was a meeting for a group of people, including cancer survivors, church ministers and disabled people who had been subject to a sizeable fraud, and their already fragile state was worsened by the disgusting behaviour of this woman, who also seemed convinced I was related to someone I'd never heard of and confronted me about it. Surreal. Horrible experience in this tired, tatty hotel.

"Very good food"
pauline151, 19 Juin 2018

We were pleased to be given a table on a very busy evening, although we were not staying at the hotel. The service was a bit slow, but that was understandable considering the number of people dining. The food was very good, certainly worth waiting for, more imaginative than a lot of hotels. The staff were friendly and polite.

"In bad need of refurbishment"
uktravellingwoman, 18 Juin 2018

Stayed here for 1 night on tour of east Anglia. Intended to stay for 2, but room was so disappointing that we were forced to find alternative hotel. The building is in need of refurbishment with peeling paint and missing sign letter. Our room had a badly stained carpet, chipped paintwork, torn chair and was in general need of attention. The bathroom had chipped tiles, cracks around the bath and an ineffective shower over the bath and a flimsy shower curtain. We had been charged over £90 for this room, so definitely expected better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was fine; freshly cooked and hot. However, there was a stale smell in the dining room; I suspect coming from the carpet. Overall, we were very disappointed as we had found Best Western to be reliable in the past and now feel unconfident about booking with them again

"Wifi not working"
Chocolate_shaf, 13 Juin 2018

This hotel had good working, ok rooms. What you would expect I suppose. Bar area was lively compared to rest of town. Steak and garlic bread was ok, bit over priced for the area but the duty manager behind the bar was friendly and good. It would have got a 3 star but the below really effected me, as assume this is mainly business hotel. But what really annoyed me, and caused me issue was that the wifi seemed have network issues at night and early in the morning. I woke up at 5am to do some work and send some important emails but couldn't get connection. Bless the night porter didn't have a clue and main team don't start until 7am. Surprised that breakfast doesn't start earlier, as most hotels 6am?

"Great stay"
CP12907164, 02 Juin 2018

We attended a wake at The George, and stayed the night before heading off the following day. - The reception staff were friendly and efficient on arrival amd departure - Our evening meal in the bar was excellent, and the staff were helpful and friendly - Service was a little slow at breakfast but the hot beverages and hot food were freshly prepared and arrived at the table piping hot - Parking was easy - Our room overlooked fhe front of the hotel and despite it being incredibly humid inside and outside the hotel (the fan was much appreciated), the noise from the road was not an issue - The beds were comfortable, our room was easily able to accommodate the extra bed requested, and the bathroom (with separate shower cubicle and bath, and original fireplace) was ENORMOUS!! If we are in the area again, we would happily stay again.

"A little disappointing."
Sheila B, 28 Mai 2018

Reception desk poor, Wi-Fi went down for a complete day but they could not help. It turned out to be that their router had stopped. They did not know what tariff we were on despite us having written confirmation. Room standard very good, bar and restaurant very good and the three girls who looked after us were excellent. Breakfast was very poor, under cooked bacon. Overall food in bar/restaurant was very good even if a little over the top pricewise.

"One Night Stay"
NoahsMummy31, 27 Mai 2018

Stayed here to go to a friends wedding nearby. Hotel were very accommodating, let us check in early for a couple of rooms so we could get dressed on arrival. Night porter very friendly. Room a lovely size with a huge bed! Breakfast also nice, just not enough room in the main room for everyone, we sat in the lounge part alone, which was actually much cooler. Only downfall is the carpet on the stairs is very ‘trippy' and hides one small step far too well. I'm surprised there hasn't been a few accidents.

"Poor best western hotel"
sc0ttish36, 26 Mai 2018

I expected the hotel would be of the usual high standard but saw straight away that it was not. A great pity. The one in Bristol is fantastic. This one was at a busy roundabouy with lack of good double glazing making it noisy.

"family weekend away"
will2agri, 15 Mai 2018

great staff nice rooms, perfect food. lovely hotel center of town nice staff and plenty of room in the lounge. nice family atmosphere clean and helpful staff. Bar staff and food was very good breakfast staff very helpful with toddler.

"Walking Peddars Way"
Swiss_Skywalker, 14 Mai 2018

Your service and attitude was fantastic for our short stay last weekend. the team went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. we ate breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and the food was great we were rested and fully charged to continue our 2nd day of walking. thank you to the team

Had a 2 Night B&B Deal Direct With BW, Only £25pppn. Lovely Room, Bath With Shower Above, Very Good Breakfast, Polite,Professional Friendly Staff.Good Bar/Lounge Area. Noisy People In Rooms Next To Us On 2nd Night,But Not The Hotels Fault.

"Good stay"
B G, 30 Avril 2018

I would have liked to make this 5 stars because of the friendly staff and excellent food. Just let down by the shower and tea mugs. We really struggled to get the water through to the shower - the knob was completely jammed - and water was intermittently very hot or cold. The tea mugs were stained, although obviously washed. It's probably at least 10 years since our last visit, but we don't intend to leave it as long before we stay again.

"Family weekend"
Rupi123, 28 Avril 2018

We recently stayed here for a family weekend, for a wedding we were attending in Narborough, we had 6 rooms in total. Overall the stay was pleasant. The rooms are in need of modernisation but they were comfortable and had everything we needed. Albeit very hot at night! Breakfast is good - plenty of choice. The coffee was excellent. What made this hotel were the staff, all the ladies from reception, breakfast and also on the bar were also so lovely and kind, nothing was ever too much trouble. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

"Poor customer service over the phone"
bethanymcnaughto2018, 24 Avril 2018

Before my colleague had the opportunity to stay here, the Receptionist dealing with my booking picked up on a mistake I had made with the business fax and was extremely underhanded and rude over the phone. They do not know how to associate themselves with other businesses and she should be held accountable for her poor and unprofessional attitude over the phone.

"Nice four day stay."
Derrick T, 23 Avril 2018

Stayed here for three nights with my wife and had a very enjoyable visit to this town. The George Hotel was ideally situated in the town. Rooms were nice and ample for a short break. Room service was efficient and very good. Breakfast was a slight disappointment with the cook breakfast Being kept warm and when delivered it was overdone. We did have a word with the chef and it was resolved. Evening meals in the restaurant were very good with a nice quiet atmosphere. The staff were very nice and efficient. Plenty of parking available. Swaffham is a pleasant little town but not many evening type restaurants. Still a very pleasant stay.

"Old and dated in need of refurbishment "
PFeathers, 25 Mars 2018

This has to be one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. Felt run down and in need of repair. The shower barely worked and full of limescale. The rooms were noisy from passing traffic with squeaky floorboards from other visitors. On checking out the staff had calculated part of another guests bill to ours. Receptionist was quite abrupt. Avoid if you can.

"One night stay"
Duffers1970, 21 Mars 2018

Stayed for one night, staff are very friendly , bar and lounge areas are nice , however the room I was in was tired and could do with a refit, the bathroom which was down a corridor looked like it was last refitted in the 1980,s judging by the decor and the shower was temperamental with the water temperature. Bed was comfy but it is not a place I would rush back to, it's a shame as the staff clearly are professional but working in a premises that needs some money spent on it

"Dated and tired"
Doug T, 16 Mars 2018

The staff are great and generally the building is good. But the rooms are dated and the bathrooms leave somewhat to be desired. As for the shower, a bath if you have one is a better option. Not exactly what you call fast flowing. A dribble perhaps! Beds comfortable and food very good.

"Good location and lovely staff"
Pippoptastic, 10 Mars 2018

We stayed here as part of our Norfolk tour and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely staff and the size of the room. This is one of your older hotels so the bathroom isn't amazing but the room itself is great to crash in - the bed is huge!!! The neighbouring bar and restaurant were lovely, limited food choices, or at least unusual, I have never heard of a Chicken Oz before! But again the service was lovely! Would definitely stay again!

"Fiona Townsend - Long term business stay"
FionaTownsend, 04 Mars 2018

I have been staying in the George weekdays for 8 weeks and can only praise the staff here. Always greeted with friendliness and helpfulness and any small changes I requested were always met, from needing extra things for the room to a complete room change. Everyone has been very accomodating (pun intended!) Some rooms have been renovated and modernised (I've been in several during my long stay!) and others are more old fashioned, but all are clean, have comfortable beds, WiFi, flat screen TVs, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, electric fan. Originally a 16th century coaching house, guess what! Yes part of the building is actually old and yes there are some creaky floorboards! The front rooms i stayed in were newly renovated but face the main junction and light sleepers may find it a bit loud (advice, when booking request a room that's not at the front!) my colleagues who are heavier sleepers have had no issue with the front rooms! Having been here so long I've pretty much eaten my way through the menu and haven't had a bad meal once. Everyone has had different experiences at different places, but I feel some of these reviews were expecting 5* in a 3* hotel! It's classed as 3* and stands up to my comparison to other 3* hotels I've stayed in! I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it, as I have been nothing but happy with my stay. Especially with the hospitality and helpfulness of all the staff.. and especially during the recent snowfall that left me stranded here 5 days longer than booked! I can't be more grateful x

"ok for a couple of nights"
louisa c, 04 Mars 2018

The room in which I stayed smelled of damp near the entrance especially after a shower. By shutting the bathroom door with the extractor going, plugs in and the window open for five minutes or so it got rid of it. In my opinion, part of the issue is due to the shower curtain being too short and water going on the floor. Apart from that the room was ok for a couple of nights and there is a bar/restaurant in house. Not a lot of choice for vegetarians but the salad was ok and breakfast was too.

"Disappointing- not bad for an over 70s stay "
Dan W, 17 Février 2018

Booked 2 nights here on business. Price seemed ok and let's be honest there isn't a great deal of choice in Swaffham. I saw best western and assumed it would be a decent hotel so booked. Arrival- woman on reception on a personal call, made me wait until finished conversation and no apology for the wait. I'm generally relaxed so I'll let that go. Room- really old with the the most creaky floor I've ever walked on. One of the floor boards under the carpet even flicked up on walking over it. Saying that the room was clean. Bathroom was huge! But again really old and all the heating pipes are run on surface of the room which makes the bathroom boiling hot. My room was literally on the junction where this hotel sits. Really noisy to start with but got quiet as Swaffham doesn't have much going on after 8-9pm so not too bad. Evening meal- really bad. Under cooked starter and the wrong main brought out. To be fair to the waitress rectified the mistake was quickly and the main course quickly came out after. It wasn't a very nice meal (George burger) but that's not the fault of the staff I just think it's a bad dish! Food added to room bill and when checking out they took the starter off the bill without me saying anything- I class that as a good service so no complaints there. A decent breakfast- no complaints I checked out a day early as finished my job before schedule and drove home that night. If the hotel was a nicer place I would of stayed the extra night and drove home in the morning but I was more than happy to go home as the hotel is not that nice. My conclusion is this place is in need of a serious overhaul as it's just so old and dated. I noticed a lot of older people enjoying the hotel which kind of sums the place up a bit. I would think best western should take a walk around this place and see if they are happy with it. I would class it as a max 2star stay. The hotel is fine for a quick stop but just don't expect much!

"A celebration"
Adrian B, 11 Février 2018

A family Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday should have been a delight but even though we booked in advance. No one greeted us and we eventually found a waitress we waited a very long time for a very poor meal to arrive. A Sunday roast which should not have been presented to paying customers then arrived. Roast potatoes and vegetables over cooked and a Yorkshire pudding which was disaster. Very little seasoning in the gravy and frankly it was very poor - we left before the pudding course. Having a grandson with us we also found the high chair filthy. For goodness sake is it not about time the hotel trade got its act together. The excuse was that they were under staffed but also with very few customers on a Sunday I wonder why? The chef needs to go on a cookery course.Bringing in vegetable on dishes which had sat on one another as they were bought along or in the kitchen meant that we have squashed over-cooked vegetables, barely enough to go round even if we had eaten them. Every member of my family complained about their meal and we will never eat there again. We felt that we would have eaten better in the local fish chip restaurant in the town which we passed on the way back home. Come on Swaffham get your act together - we live there and love the place.

"A break with friends..."
BetterHolidays, 08 Février 2018

The hotel was a bit dated and old fashioned. My room was on the first floor and there was no lift and the stairs were difficult to get up and down. The staff were very friendly Paula in particular. The breakfast was good..but the evening meal wasn't really nice and we wished we had found somewhere local to eat. We only used the hotel as a stopover between travelling to the races and it managed to provide the beds we needed. The room was ok and clean, the bed quite comfortable and with tea making facilities in each room.

"Last Minute Stay "
Jean I, 04 Février 2018

We booked in here for a last minute Stay and we had a great time and service from the moment we walked through the door the receptionist was very helpful as she saw I was disabled changed our first floor room to the ground floor making it easier for me without being asked We found our room to be very clean and the bed was extra large and very comfortable with ample chairs for us both to sit on which is unusual for most hotels usually only get one We are in the bar at lunchtime which was in the bar there is a very good menu we chose sandwiches which were served with salad very nice We also ate here in the evening and enjoyed the meal with a couple of pints of real ale Breakfast was served in the green room and there was a good selection of hot and cold good All staff very nice and friendly Well worth a stay

"Lunch out "
raresteaklover, 30 Janvier 2018

Met up with an old friend and family for lunch. Walked in to the bar area and no staff to be seen, picked a table up in the corner. Went to bar to order drinks £3.20 for a pint of lemonade!! Absolute joke. Ordered our food and waited half hour nothing arrived went to bar and was told it's now being plated. Waited a further ten minutes then it arrived. Had clearly been forgotten!! Friends son ordered a sweet chilli George burger that had no sweet chilli in. Rest of the meals were Ok, hence the three stars. Below is the Chicken Oz.

"Xmas party"
Ian P, 16 Janvier 2018

Went to an Xmas Party on Friday night at the George hotel & stopped over for the night. The Party meal was good, served piping hot & the waiting staff being very efficient. The only poor aspect was the disco & DJ. Why he needed 2 large

"Christmas lunch fantastic"
Karen W, 12 Janvier 2018

Went here Xmas day for lunch was party of 4 but at few days notice accommodated a fifth person for lunch ,supplied a larger table. Greeted by lovely gentleman serving welcoming mulled wine. The food was great cooked nicely and plenty off. We're offered a sorbet after the starter which was delicious. The staff were great with cheerful service and given right amount of break between courses. Atmosphere was warm and friendly. Would definitely book again. Price was reasonable for Christmas Day.

"Best Western Swaffham"
Steaksaver, 11 Janvier 2018

Room was OK although quite small. Manager was not happy when I decided to join my coleagues for dinner, because I didn't book my meal in advance as the rest of the party. She was rude and told off organiser of the trip for not informing them of the change in advance. I asked if there is possibility to order at the time considering that the restaurant had opening times for another 3 hours. The manager then reluctantly checked stocks with kitchen and it was revealed that there was still the same choice of food as my colleagues had. The meal was served on time so I didn't understand the reason behind the initial attitude. The quality of food was acceptable, no faults, but not very well cooked or seasoned.

"lunch"
Janice E, 21 Décembre 2017

Met up with some friends for lunch before Christmas.Food was excellent and staff were very friendly and efficient. Will be going back again.Good selection of menu choices no room left for dessert as portions were generous

"Best Western the best"
Kate W, 14 Décembre 2017

We stayed at The George in Swaffam for 3 nights ,the weather was terrible cold and welcome we received was warm and friendly. Our room was very warm with lots of storage and a comfortable bed .Complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee facilities. Plenty of choice at breakfast with no waiting for our food. We ate in the restaurant which has a great menu ,plenty of choice at good prices .

"Comfortable enough for a stop over but nothing special"
Chris H, 07 Décembre 2017

Nice looking hotel right in the centre of Swaffham. Plenty of space in the car park and checking in was friendly and efficient. My room was reached up a flight of narrow creaky stairs through several doors and along narrow corridors - quite difficult carrying a suitcase. The room was comfortable enough but a bit dark and quite cold until the electric radiator was switched on. The bathroom was small and narrow with a poor shower. The restaurant was OK but no more - a basic menu that was served quickly and efficiently - the same with breakfast. All in all a bit underwhelming but I doubt if there are many other options in Swaffham.

"not spectacular but would stay there again"
DiC-1K, 09 Octobre 2017

Good parking facilities, small but adequate bathroom, good breakfast and very good central position with at least two excellent restaurants (all we had time to try) within easy walking distance. The absolute plus point for someone like me who hates soft beds and has, to avoid back ache, actually slept on more hotel room floors around the world than hotel room beds, one of the best hotel beds I've ever come across.

"Business Overnight"
Gr8ServiceSeekersUK, 25 Septembre 2017

Overnight stay as I was working in Dereham. The hotel has good food and drink. The room was very well appointed and in a quiet location. During my stay, there was a coach of pensioners visiting, so the whole hotel was fairly quiet.

"Lovely helpful staff"
HongKong77, 21 Septembre 2017

We were in room 103 which was very spacious with a large bathroom. The twin room was comfortable and reasonably quiet seeing that it overlooked the road outside. Storage space was good and the beds were fine. We had a problem with the loo leaking but when we brought it to the hotel's attention it was fixed immediately. We had a similar problem at home so alerted them as soon as possible as the water bills get horrific and they weren't aware of this at all. We ate there the first night in their lovely dining room. The food was good but we were disappointed that they didn't offer an a la carte menu for the dining room with the same food being offered as in the bar. However, the food was very good so we had no complaints. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices from Kippers, Smoked haddock to muffins with scrambled egg and smoked salmon to a huge "Full English". The hotel was in a central position with good car parking facilities, my only problem was that I could not connect to the internet as I had an iPhone, my husband has an Android phone and he connected immediately. Apparently, this is a problem known to them but it didn't spoil my stay here. We would return to the George Hotel.

"Lunch Club with friends"
stephaniedent27, 20 Septembre 2017

A superb meal, service and welcome lovely, a very good choice for celiac, and Graham on the bar is just lovely so patient and helpful. All in all a perfect lunch, and lovely experience, the waitress and chefs could not have been more helpful with regard our dietary challenges

"It''s old, but it's decent"
Eirewolf, 16 Septembre 2017

The Best Western George was good, comfortable, and clean. The staff were very polite and friendly. The hotel has ample parking, and a nice bar/lounge/restaurant. It is an old building, complete with creaky floors (observation, not complaint!), and a mini-maze of levels, corridors, stairs, doors, and areas to mind the step. The two issues I had were (1) the WiFi was not strong enough to connect to in my room. I could go a few feet down the hall and connect, but although my device could see the network, the signal wasn't strong enough to establish a connection. (2) This is the biggest complaint: the shower was incredibly wimpy with very little pressure.

"Carvery"
missbrowneyesxx, 11 Septembre 2017

Sunday lunch (carvery) at the George. Staff friendly. Seated straight away at our table, drinks requested and arrived within a couple of minutes. Choice of pork or beef, roast potatoes, roasted parsnips, carrots, cabbage and cauliflower cheese. Within 5 minutes we were making our choices from the carvery. A very generous slice of beef served. Meat was very tender and gravy delicious. One course £9.95, two courses £11.95. Very enjoyable.

"Quiet Suffolk town"
Michael B, 25 Août 2017

Rooms of a reasonable size. Everything worked as expected. Breakfast cooked to order and of good quality. Evening meal offed a reasonable selection of dishes. The car park is of a reasonable size. Wifi also worked without a problem

"Norfolk visit base"
JohnMaloney, 24 Août 2017

The George is in the very centre of the pleasant market town of Swaffam. Swaffam is a good base for a Norfolk visit. The rooms are reasonably comfortable with nice bathrooms and beds. They are getting a little tired and in need of some updating but generally are OK. They probably need to take the carpets up and nail the creaky floorboards down but perhaps that's what you get with a very old building. Our room faced the market square and main roads so there was a fair amount of traffic noise. Perhaps rooms at the back would be quieter. The bar and restaurant were very well used which says much about them and you can always find a quiet spot. Plenty of newspapers too. Breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. Lots of good parking. Everything was very clean. Generally, well recommended.

"Ok, a few issues and not sure if it was worth the money"
Sophie G, 21 Août 2017

I stayed for one night for a wedding so didn't spend much time in the hotel as a whole. The hotel is old fashioned and creaky which isn't much of a problem and on first impressions our room wasn't too bad; although it did smell slightly of damp when we first walked in. The bed was comfy and the bedding and towels were clean which is the most important thing for me. When trying to use the shower in the morning we soon found out that it was useless. It took a good 10 minutes to set the temperature as it constantly fluctuated from boiling hot to freezing cold. The shower screen didn't suction to the bath either so it just swung around and even when trying to wedge it in place the floor still got wet. The hairdryer was ancient and lasted 10 seconds each time before overheating and turning off, so drying your hair would take a few hours. We had breakfast included which was decent enough and enjoyable. Graham who took our orders was very polite and cheery. We had a fry up which was nice, and there was a good selection of everything else to eat. I would maybe stay here again if I had a room with a shower and hairdryer that worked as the staff all seemed very nice

"Two night stay for exploring"
Chris J, 15 Août 2017

This hotel is an old coaching inn in the centre of town. The rooms in the older part are not as up to date and those in the newer extension at the rear. Unfortunately we had room 206 which overlooks the road junction, it was a very warm room which forced us to have the window open all night which also meant we had traffic noise. The room itself was comfortable and the few problems we found were dealt with efficiently. The staff were friendly and helpful, we found the food to be of a good standard and good portions, my only complaint was the menu was limited. Overall we enjoyed our visit but feel it was slightly overpriced.

"Splendid"
Tricia L, 15 Août 2017

Have just returned from Lunch at The George Hotel in Swaffham - a first time for me but shall certainly return. A super selection of food and beverages - Salmon with Asparagus or Calves Liver and Bacon were excellent. Super, enthusiastic Staff - especially Ann the Assistant Manager. Excellent parking. Highly recommended.

"lovely"
juliemM2333JM, 09 Août 2017

We have stayed here before and love it , if you are lucky enough to get in the old part of the hotel the floors are creaky and all is nice and good . The bar is nice for food and drink in the evening and also the locals use it so it has a nice atmosphere . Breakfast is cooked for you and always good , the lady that serves it is so friendly and pleasant always . Love coming back here .

"Lunch in Pedlers Carvery"
Steffies56, 06 Août 2017

We took my Mother to the carvery restaurant for Sunday lunch . The room is very large and is used for functions and it is situated in the grounds of the hotel. There was soup, melon, pate or mushrooms as a starter. The carvery was beef or lamb with various vegetables. You could order fish or a veggie meal if you wished. The vegetables and Yorkshire puddings were lukewarm. The beef was very good and hot. Dessert was cheesecake, strawberries, sticky toffee pudding or summer pudding. The desserts were quite nice. It is quite good value £13.50 for 3 courses, tea/coffee was an extra £1.70. One of the lady wait staff was very friendly and efficient.

"Wedding"
kbjs2017, 02 Août 2017

We had our wedding reception here, it was absolutely lovely. We had over 60 people for our meal after our wedding, all meals served were of a high standard, not one complaint. The food was tasty, presented well hot and plenty of it. Every one commented on how impressed they were. The staff were exceptional, polite, cheerful and willing to help. We were very pleased with the service we received and would highly recommend this venue. We want to say a big Thank you especially to Trish and Joyce who went the extra mile to make our day special. We stayed the night in room 101, (which was included in the wedding package) it was a nice comfortable and spacious room, we had a lovely full English breakfast in the morning. Thank you again, we will be back! And will definitely recommend you. Mr and Mrs Secker

"Beware!"
Elizabeth S, 01 Août 2017

Beware room 102! It was unbearably hot, with a temperature not far below the top 20's centigrade, and in my opinion should not have been let at all and certainly not without a health warning. It has a south facing window and the walls of the bathroom were hot to the touch, presumably hiding hot water pipes to other parts of the hotel. A (small) fan was supplied and I was told to leave the window open, not helpful with the outside heat. i was so hot I felt ill. In addition, a wedding reception was held opposite, spilling out into the courtyard, so you can imagine its effect at 2am. I booked this hotel direct and they charged £65 as opposed to £43 by the dot com web-sites even though a card I picked up at reception claimed that direct booking with the hotel was the cheapest way. Breakfast was good, Sunday supper mediocre. I shall not stay here again and do not recommend this hotel.

"Very noisy and not very ckean"
carouselgirl1971, 27 Juillet 2017

Ask for a room that is not at the front of the hotel (if you've already had the misfortune to book and cannot cancel your room) the windows don't close properly and the road is extremely busy & noisy meaning a terrible nights sleep even with earplugs. Bath was dirty, shower had black mould on the grouting which could have been remedied with a bit of elbow grease & bleach. Didn't bother with breakfast because whilst I waited at the bar the previous evening (the barman was chatting to his friends and ignored us) I picked up the breakfast menu which had a dead fly squashed in between the pages. £92 a night inc breakfast is a joke. Avoid

"Friendly people - good room"
Jacinta H, 27 Juillet 2017

Huge bathroom - a little dated but room lovely- overlooking main road and market square but not too noisy. Went for a night as sister has 50 th birthday celebrations at assembly rooms. Carpark next door Enjoyed

"For value for money, could not fault the hotel, service and food."
David E, 26 Juillet 2017

large free car park. Very pleasant staff. Spacious room. Had bar meals in the evening, which were good. Excellent full English breakfast. Waitress Anne, was so pleasant and helpful, with a ready smile.

"FAWLTY TOWERS HOTEL!!!!"
katiew9012017, 24 Juillet 2017

Shower totally useless, hairdryer didn't work.......hotel could do with total refurbishment; staff not particularly friendly and could do with training on customer service apart from the younger receptionist who always had a smile on her face. Too many mistakes that shouldn't have happened in the first place! AND it was never the hotels fault always an excuse and the customer left to feel in the wrong!!!!! Next time will book at the nearest Travellodge or Premier Inn!

"Shower doesn't work properly."
Derek Stephen D, 22 Juillet 2017

Stayed in room 203.Weak water pressure makes it impossible to have shower. Light didnt work in room. Receptionist had couldn't care less attitude in dealing with the problem. Room was quiet and bed was comfortable.

"Dining"
Mike B, 20 Juillet 2017

We tried to book for 2 nights midweek, but left it late and no availability, stayed nearby (not as nice) and went in to The George for dinner on Wednesday night.Deborah on the bar and 'food orders' was very nice, pleasant and professional, the serving staff the same and the best 'Burger' I have had for years - if in area will definitely use again.

"Two Nights In Norfolk"
Peter B, 20 Juillet 2017

The location of this hotel, at a town centre crossroad, made entry to its car park difficult. There was plenty of space in the car park & we were able to park close top Reception. No double rooms were available so we were given room-114 with two, well separated, single beds. The temperature outside was 27 degrees, and not much less in our room. A tiny, electrical air-fan was supplied, which we managed to prop up using a milk carton (a nut was missing from the bolt which held up the fan). My bed was OK, the two pillows hard. The studio type room & en-suite looked 1975 and the electrical switches & points likewise. Our view was of a courtyard below & what seemed to be ugly flats opposite. The shower & bath worked and clean towels were supplied, together with shampoo, body scrub, shoe sponge & soap. The kettle worked and tea, chocolate, powdered coffee & biscuits were provided. The TV controller did not work, and had to be replaced. The dinner menu was small, but we enjoyed our dinners & breakfasts here in the dining room. Flies, however, were a real problem. The high temperature caused the staff to open the dining room windows, resulting in flies entering whilst we ate. We found Swaffham to be a pleasant country town and a good centre to explore Norfolk.

"Total Disgrace"
Matto8750, 13 Juillet 2017

Arrived at the BW Swaffham to be told that we had no rooms booked even though I checked the booking 2days prior. To add insult to injury they found my booking but then did not have any rooms. I will never use Best Western again! We eventually found a lovely b&b and the lady in there said "oh it happens all the time"

"Needs work... "
dcbenz, 11 Juillet 2017

Booked on last minute business visit, normal hotel alternatives were fully booked. Positives... + Proximity to A47 + Free easily accessible parking + Restaurant/bar on site + Staff welcoming and helpful Negatives... - Wifi does not work. Tried 3 devices on both networks and no joy at all. Frustrating as I had a heap of work to do. - Bar food is average and fairly expensive. Order came wrong twice (why would 1 person order 2 starters...?) - Dated and musty. Carpets, fixtures, furniture in room and public areas all around 20 years out of date. - Bathroom was mucky; dirty limescale around taps and plugs. Also very dated. - No air con, 5 inch fan provided which isn't much use... Wouldn't bother again. Too overpriced and there is plenty of hot competition in close proximity, it's a shame as the staff deserve better.

"Always Welcome"
Steve W, 11 Juillet 2017

My boss live sin Swaffham, so I regular stay at the George and always feel welcome. The food is good especially the steaks and breakfast is a must with local produce always available! The staff are friendly and plenty of free parking

"Overnight stay at the George"
Bella_M10, 13 Juin 2017

We stayed overnight as a base to do some sightseeing in Norfolk. The accommodation in a twin room was very comfortable and clean. Free parking was available for guests. We had a most satisfying and generous breakfast with a huge choice of cooked options as well as cereals, fruit, croissants, etc. All staff were friendly and accommodating. Couldn't fault it other than perhaps saying that the carpets in bedroom and corridor look a bit tired, and we would have appreciated a few more UHT milk tubs to go with the tea/coffee making facilities. Overall a very pleasant stay. We would definitely go again if we go back in the area.

"overnight stay"
mullicub, 05 Juin 2017

We stayed in a twin room for one night when visiting family near Swaffham. The room was comfortable and clean. Reception staff friendly and helpful. My only criticism would be that the shower in the room was little more than a dribble.

"ROOM TOO HOT"
CONNIEWORCESTERSHIRE, 20 Mai 2017

The food, staff and service was excellent but our room was so hot day and night-26-28c. We never once got into bed we had to lie on top. This has never been a problem wherever we have stayed before. As this was a town hotel the guests were mainly work people who only stayed 1 or 2 nights-but as our stay was for a number of nights the constant heat was a problem to us. We have family who work at the George and would have stayed more often. J WILLIMOTT

"Brief stay for a wedding "
Emma W, 07 Mai 2017

My husband and I stayed here for a nearby wedding over the weekend. It is a very pleasant hotel with easy access to the town and a no fuss parking regime - excellent for stress levels : ) rooms were clean and tidy, staff were helpful and polite. Richard the night porter was a lovely chap and was easily persuaded for us to enjoy a little night cap in the bar! Wifi was rubbish - this needs to be looked into and breakfast was slightly disappointing. However, perfection does not exist and I would very much stay here should I visit the area in the future.

"FLAKY INTERNET, UNHELPFUL RECEPTION STAFF AND OVERHEATED ROOMS"
Anne H, 01 Mai 2017

Booked to stay 4 nights through Hotels.com on a special non-refundable rate. Reasons for choosing the hotel apart from price were location and advertised free wifi throughout the property. On arrival first evening checked in OK but found it impossible to get wifi in our room. When we reported this to reception they could offer nothing more than a repeat of how to log on (we do KNOW how to use wifi!) and the not very helpful remark that it was working fine for them. Eventually we moved down to the bar area where wifi did work, but only for 1 minute in every 3, so not really usable. After repeated reports/complaints to reception we were told someone would look at it the following day. They must have done, because thereafter it worked well, including in our room, with only a few brief outages. At breakfast the following morning I asked for extra hot water with my tea. It didn't arrive, so I then asked for my tea pot to be topped up with hot water. Waiter and tea pot disappeared for ages until I eventually asked a second waiter to go in search of the first. The breakfast room was oppressively hot - I had to step outside for some fresh air, and thereafter we had breakfast in a little cafe across the street - much cheaper, very friendly and comfortable, with daily newspapers available for customers to read. On check out I found we had been charged for our newspapers, although these had been free as part of our deal. The receptionist (a different one from the Internet saga) said she knew nothing about this and couldn't check to find out if it was true. I took exception to the implication that I might not be telling the truth, but agreed to pay and then claim reimbursement as I only had electronic confirmation and my laptop was by that time packed away in the car. I left an uncomplimentary entry in the visitors book and left. Within 30 mins of leaving, I received a voicemail from the receptionist to say she had checked, I was right, and she would reimburse me if I provided my card details. What she did not offer was either an apology or an explanation of why it suddenly became possible to check, when it had previously been impossible. We were extremely disappointed with our stay, and based on this experience, we will not be staying here, or with Best Western, again. On a positive note the lady working in the bar was very friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed a meal in there on our last night, but it wasn't enough to make up for everything else.

"Nine ageing golfers"
simplydelb0y, 30 Avril 2017

Stayed here for four nights last week. Smallish rooms and bath/shower not great but more than made up for by the staff. Clean and comfortable, great food and a brilliant bar. Our thanks especially to Roz and Ann who made us feel very welcome and put up with us with humour and patience. We will be back.

"Great value for money "
PIJLondon, 30 Avril 2017

Stayed here for one night - all staff were very friendly- breakfast was excellent- we had the full English- great bacon and sausages - went to the bar late evening and ordered superb cheese and biscuits for one - waitress offered additional plate and biscuits- excellent service- would recommend- great value for money

"Disappointing, I was expecting to be a bit better."
vlgr55, 28 Avril 2017

Booked a double for a 2 nights weekend. The exterior is nothing as in the pictures, but the car-park has been revamped and has nice night led lights all over, which welcome you at night. The room is passable, but the bathroom is dated, with the separate taps and bathtub with curtain. WC was over filling. Wi-fi did not work and staff seem not bothered nor interested in solving the problem, which makes me think that it could be a long standing well known issue. In the year 2017 I think this is a good reason to avoid this hotel. And that is why I also said that I am unsure if wifi is available in the short questionnaire. One evening TV went suddenly dark, had to re-adjust. I suspect that my pillowcase had not been replaced as In the morning I found unfamiliar hair, but can't swear on this. Will be more attentive next time. Unfortunately there is a church nearby which tolls also at night. Other strange loud noise in the morning, perhaps the heating? Breakfast room nice and lovely staff. Coffee could be better, toaster a bit fiddly, but overall were satisfied with the quality of the food and service: this is why I give 2 stars and not less.

"Very handy place to stay"
Gordon B, 27 Avril 2017

A comfortable place to stay especially if needed for a short visit or business trip to the area. The bedroom was clean adequate and very comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and nicely presented, and catered for all tastes. Evening meals very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would book again if in the area.

"Shame about the bathroom"
BucksJanet, 14 Avril 2017

Stayed here for a couple of nights and after reading reviews requested one of the renovated rooms. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was also large but - and it is a big but - the shower was a joke with very little water coming out of the spray head. The bath was fine but took about 30 mins to fill with enough water to have a reasonable bath. On mentioning this to the staff we were told that many guests complain but nothing is ever done by the Management. On the plus side the food was good and the staff very helpful.

"George Best "
Jeffersonsiandcoz, 10 Avril 2017

I would recommend this to anyone. ..Dinner was good and breakfast better. But the room was lovely and clean and spacious. However the best thing about this place is the staff. They are very courteous and friendly and they go the extra mile to make your stay more enjoyable. Great value for money too. Simon Jefferson

"Excellent and friendly staff. Very good value for: accommodation, wine and food."
meld09, 04 Avril 2017

Stayed on a Saturday to attend a function there. Was reticent after reading some reviews. But, bedroom large and comfortable, well decorated and very clean, bathroom compact but ok. Staff were all excellent and friendly. Public rooms were well decorated and very clean and cosy. Food was good. Overall value money was excellent would happily stay again if in the vicinity.

"Worst Western Ever"
17Helen1967, 25 Novembre 2016

Most of the staff were lovely and this is where the positives ended. First room on second floor, the window rattled so badly I had no sleep, bathroom freezing - asked to be moved. Moved to another room (for 2nd and 3rd nights) to then be told the heating had failed! Out of date tested free standing heater supplied, but bathroom freezing and water pressure non existent. Just about managed to wash hair to then get electrocuted by faulty hairdryer! As heater unplugged during the day room was freezing in the evening when I returned, room and bathroom windows were running with water and towels were still wet from trying to wash my hair that morning due to no heating. Have complained and made to feel it was all my fault as I didn't complain more at the time - I was travelling with my 70+ year old mother who thankfully was in the new part of the hotel and although a little cold was ok. However, her stay and trip to visit her 97year old mother was completely ruined by the problems I had. Hotel have offered a partial "goodwill refund" and numerous inaccurate replies. Next step is independent advice and possible claim. Customer services have been very poor. Very disappointing, as staff tried very hard to be helpful in a really poor establishment - constantly heard them apologising for various things.

"weekend break"
margaret t, 22 Novembre 2016

The only fault if any was the waiter/ress service was a little disjointed, in their defense they were extremely busy.. a good sign.. Do not go for the vegetarian option.. otherwise a perfect stay.. This Hotel was a base for the Thursford Christmas Spectacular..

"Nice hotel but VERY bad heating and HORRIBLE WiFi"
hamishpike, 16 Novembre 2016

We stayed in this hotel as our family lives in the neighbouring village. Unfortunately, as a family with a 5 year old and 3 year old, we were allocated a room on the 2nd floor and high up. Unfortunately this was not great, however the rooms were nice and clan. The heating however was nothing short of non existent. The bathroom of rooms 217 and 218 had single glazed glass that DID NOT stop the cold, nor did it even stop the breeze. It was SO COLD. When I phoned up reception because the WiFi wasn't working, I was told it should. Even though I explained that I work within the ICT industry, they did not listen to this. They did reset the wifi, however, this did not assist as the WAP was not anywhere close to the Level 2 rooms and the staff DID NOT CARE that the promise (there was even a card in the room) that wifi would be in every room. This was not the case! This was MOST frustrating.

"60th wedding anniversary"
Melanie A, 16 Novembre 2016

We turned up unannounced thinking a booking had been made for my nan and grandad's 60th wedding anniversary (turns out the booking had been made at a venue with a similar name in a neighbouring town). After the initial confusion was cleared up, The George accommodated all 11 of us with ease. The service was excellent, the staff were fantastic and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend! A lovely night was had by all.

"Nice hotel in small town"
Ian T, 12 Novembre 2016

Nice hotel, bit rough round the edges and could do with a lick of paint but basically sound. The rooms are clean and tidy but the fluorescent lighting is so very dated these days and does make the place seem cheap. It is well enough priced so fair enough. Bar and restaurant good and friendly and the night porter is really nice too

"Good recovery"
Denise F, 31 Octobre 2016

Hotel is easy to find and is located well for exploring Swaffham. We were greeted by a very friendly lady on reception and our room was clean warm & had everything we needed for a comfortable overnight stay. We went to the bar we had booked and we were shown to a table and then we waited and waited for service. Staff came in and out of the bar area, we must of counted five different staff members but not one of them approached us. We started to get angry now as since seating us no one had acknowledged us my husband went to the bar and was told you had to order at the bar ....when we arrived we told the lady we had booked a table in the restaurant for an evening meal she told us we would be in the bar and there was no difference. We were then deciding if we should go elsewhere to eat as they certainly didn't seem to care when Costa a staff member came over to us apologised and offered to take us through to the restaurant and he would look after us, we did and he did. The service we received was first class he said he would do everything in his power to make our evening special and again he did. Robbie was also very attentive making sure we had everything we needed. So as I say good recovery and thefood was fabulous. Breakfast was also great plenty of choice and service excellent. I asked Mark the waiter if my coffee could be made stronger as it was a bit weak for me he came back with another pot which was more to my taste. So overall we had a very pleasant stay and yes I would stay again if we were out that way.

"In desperate need of updating!"
lucy s, 30 Octobre 2016

Carpet and some of chairs in hallways is like being at your grandmas house. Bedrooms are the same and just little things like the doors are filthy dirty and holes in walls, toilet seat unsafe it slides about and TV didn't work. My sons room the toilet didn't flush. The rooms were pretty similar and the bathrooms were mouldy and tired. We all decided not to shower in the morning as it wasn't welcoming. Slightly worried about breakfast as the hotel has 3 star hygiene rating??. We sat down at the table and after 20 minutes of being ignored went to find the waitress to order. Order poached eggs which were of course hard. Let's just say if Best Western is putting their name to this hotel we won't be using Best Western in the future! Staff were nice and friendly...

"Suprise Lunch"
Lynda P, 27 Octobre 2016

Looking for morning coffee turned into early lunch on a Monday, we were greeted by a very attentive young man, what started with coffee ended with a very pleasing lunch. They do a pensioners 2 course meal for £7.95 Monday to Friday and I can recommend it very highly. The roast Beef was well cooked and the veg just right as so many places think two minutes is enough to cook everything. Second course was unusual, the server described it as giant Jaffa cake and ice cream, he was not wrong, we were served with a slice of orange flavore sponge with orange curd through the center and dark chocolate icing . It was just like a Jaffa cake biscuit and was so unusual . Value for money it was all first class and we cant wait to be in the area to visit again. Thank you Jonny for the excellent service and making our visit so enjoyable.

"Fantastic service, Really attentive staff"
Buddyandson, 25 Octobre 2016

The staff were amazing, we had a problem with the heating and within minutes they were there to sort it out. Room was freshly decorated and comfortable. Great customer service and a fantastic breakfast.

"A small half-term break"
Karen E, 25 Octobre 2016

I took my son with me to Swaffham for a night away during the half-term. We went to The George the same time last year, and the grounds/carpark now look great with the refurbishment. The beds are great and the receptionists are very friendly. I just wish they would do a buffet breakfast not a "have to order from the menu" hot breakfast. It would be so much quicker.

"Would definately return"
K6601ZNjohnh, 18 Octobre 2016

Plenty of car parking space, friendly welcoming at reception, foot quality excellent, service excellent, staff very helpful and friendly, room was very comfortable and felt luxurious by modern standards as eveything was twice the size of your average travelodge, premier hotel, bathroom was huge with bath and shower, the only down side was room got to hot as radiator controls did not seem to work so we had to open the window, but that was all everything else was excellent.

"Another Mistake made in life"
Stephen M, 18 Octobre 2016

Shame , staff were good but so dated and not that clean , T.V and shower/bath did not work properly, curtains looked like they had been hung by a child, any normal hotel housekeeper would have noticed these points . Dropped a cufflink, reached under the bed to get it, wished I had not dropped the cufflink.

"One Night Stay"
Stevie0070, 12 Octobre 2016

The hotel is slap bang in the middle if Swaffham. It is both modern and dated with some attention need especially in public areas and some of the rooms. I paid £55 for one night stay on a Sunday and if was totally honest for the room I stayed in I would not want to pay much more. The shower was barely acceptable, no point in complaining as maintenance would not have been available, and I was tired after a long trip.

"Great room but a bit noisy!!"
FoxyStoat, 11 Octobre 2016

Stayed here before. Had room 106 which was a great size. Bathroom was huge with big separate shower. Yes a bit dated for some but for the money you get what you pay for plus in keeping with the building. Couple of issues in that shower was lacking good pressure and biggest issue was the room is above kitchen extractor which is on 24/7 so constant noise from that can cause sleep issues. Coming back for Christmas as close to in Laws and good value for money :-)

"Shabby tired hotel"
Kimtylerkimbo, 09 Octobre 2016

Stayed for a wedding close by so was really just a crash pad for the night - wouldn't want to stay any longer. Tired, old, rooms clean but musty smelling and cold (radiator didn't seem to work despite adjusting). Just needs a good old refurb. Given it's a chain hotel surprised they haven't invested to update the rooms. . Staff were lovely and very helpful - let us check in early, gave local cab numbers Breakfast was decent and good selection. Hotel rate expensive for what it was - expect they rely on wedding guests. The nearby wedding venue at Narborough Hall was lovely.

"Overpriced "
kerdoo, 09 Octobre 2016

The hotel was ok but very dated and the staff didn't seem interested in the customers it was like we where in there way. I have stayed in a lot better hotels for cheaper price. I was not surprised by the level 3 rating for their food Health and hygiene. The certificate is on display in the reception

"One night "
matthewsmummyisyummy, 24 Septembre 2016

Lovely room, good facilities. Wifi signal strong and large carpark a bonus. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room too. Only negative point is the bathroom light was very dim. Would stay again. ??

"Booking nightmare"
anthony t, 24 Septembre 2016

Booked a year in advance for a wedding reception at this venue, booked four double rooms and paid in full for the hall. Checked details at six months all was ok, two days before event rang to check all was ok to find all rooms had been allocated elsewhere!!! How you ask well so did I but management apparently were not to blame!! They neither offered assistance or advice, they never rang me back and to this date I have not had an apology!! Reception went ahead but close family ended up miles away. Management team leave a lot to be desired :(

"Stay in Swaffham"
bjchampness, 24 Septembre 2016

Pleasantly sized room with everything you could need. A good selection of food, well presented. The staff are always courteous and very helpful Swaffham is a quiet little town with a market that is bustling on market days. The church has a marvellous hammer beam timbered roof. The pew ends are carved with figures from a local folk story.

"Too hot"
Monica M, 23 Septembre 2016

We stayed at the George for four nights, our room was too hot and we both found it impossible to sleep the first night , after this my husband managed to lift up the ancient sash Windows so at least there was some air we just had to ignore the noise of the traffic, the bed was very comfortable and the room itself tidy and clean. We ate each night in the bar and we were impressed with the food and its cost. We were particularly impressed with Carol Debra and Robbie who ran the bar and made us feel welcome ,nothing was too much trouble which led to a relaxed atmosphere. We booked a special deal with the hotel which was definitely value for money. Our part of the building would not be right for anyone with walking disabilities as there are no lifts

"Comfortable stay"
JohnandBarb20, 19 Septembre 2016

We attended a private function at the hotel at which we were served well cooked food by helpful staff. We had booked to stay the night and spent a couple of hours in the bar area where the bar staff were happy to have a conversation with you when time permitted. Our bedroom was on the first floor via stairs and was a good size and was clean and comfortable although the bathroom was a bit small and needed some updating, but it was adequate. The usual breakfast choices of juices, cereal, etc. and the full English was excellent. A big thank you to all the staff. For the price we paid it was excellent value for money and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if in the area.

"BAR SERVICE"
471richardc471, 17 Septembre 2016

I have been a regular for c 15 years for the bar and food. The food has been consistent and the service from Carol at the bar has been second to none. My partner and I feel for Carol as she gets no help in serving customers. Many a time have we watched other staff walk in and out of the bar, noting Carol having a queue of customers and yet making no effort to help serve them. The biggest culprit is some new chap called Costa who claims to be the bar manager but never serves anyone as if it's beneath his importance. This is shockingly poor customer service and would not be tolerated at a professionally run operation. We love Carol to bits, and miss Graham the former Manager - both always put the customer first. Please think of the customer in future and reflect on how much drinking time and income you have lost by not helping out when the bar is busy.

"Acceptable"
BrooksyMEB, 13 Septembre 2016

The hotel is ok, but is in need of refurbishment. The rooms and bathrooms are in need of updating, but that said everything was spotlessly clean. There is a good and recently redone car park at the rear of the hotel. Stayed a Sunday night and only paid £53 (£65 including breakfast), we would be disappointed if we had spent more than this. Food is the bar was good, though the selection of beer wasn't great. Main things that let it down were the shower - the pressure wasn't great and the bracket couldn't support the weight of the head so kept ending up pointing at the wall. Also the bed was small, my feet went over the edge and I'm not particularly tall. If you get a good rate, then this hotel fine.

"Ok"
Ruddydeb, 13 Septembre 2016

Stayed at the George for 2 nights so we could attend my Nephews wedding. The bedroom we were allocated was in the original part of the hotel not the refurbished side. The room itself was large but very dated. The ensuite was huge with bath and seperate shower cubicle. To be honest we've stayed in this hotel before and the refurbished rooms are so much nicer. Our room had a used tissue on the window sill along with a few dead insects! Other than that the room was just Ok. Breakfast the first morning was lovely, we were asked how many eggs we would like and how many slices of toast. The lady who served us was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was lovely. The second morning however our order was taken without asking how many eggs or slices of toast. Strange. The good was tasty and served promptly. In short the George was just ok. Would I stay again? Well as we have family in Swaffham our choice is limited so probably, Perhaps my expectations should just be lower.

"Seriously tired"
VivianC622, 11 Septembre 2016

Not impressed with the building. Needs a whole refurb. Threadbare carpets , I expected quirky for a 17 th century coaching house. Refused our first room as it had a lot of door off a corridor with a bedroom at the end. Did not feel comfortable at all. Bathroom was awful and smelt of damp wallpapeer paste. Second room was smaller with a hard bed but a half decent bathroom. Neither of us slept. Food was ok, restaurant was empty on a Saturday night says it all. staff were all pleasant enough . Got a brandy in a tall glass to begin with. Breakfast was a farce. We were eating cereal when a waitress presented my cooked breakfast and just stood there. Not impressed , tables were not cleared and were not big enough to eat toast as well as plates piled high. Overall poor. Wouldn't stay again.

"Oh dear oh dear!"
Karin E, 11 Septembre 2016

We stayed here for one night. This is probably one of the most depressing rooms I have ever stayed in. So in need of refurbishment. The bathroom was clean but so dated beyond belief. The staff were great and breakfast was good but as far as a treat staying away for a night I couldn't wait to get home.

"Really nice people running welcoming hotel - fabulous breakfast!!"
petertheryan, 04 Septembre 2016

14 strong wedding party aged from 11-79 gathered from all over UK presented challenges which staff met professionally, kindly and with good humour. And there was at least one more wedding party here! First night meal, wine and beer very tasty and good value. Saturday and Sundry breakfasts just superb. Rooms ranged from good to excellent. Handily located and with good parking. Local beer (Adams) just great. Those who sampled late night whisky have few regrets! Definitely a place to which we would return. Thanks to everyone!

"Plenty of choice"
Peterperfik, 02 Septembre 2016

We met with our friends for lunch and were certainly not disappointed. There was very good range of food on offer and the portions were enough to satisfy the heartiest of appetites. The staff were very attentive and served with a smile, which makes all the difference Value for money it was reasonable, around £13 a head including drinks Well worth a visit Booking in advance would probably be advisable as it was very busy

"Great (very) short stay"
Carl C, 31 Août 2016

We used this as a very short stay on our way to Norwich. We new they finished doing food in the restaurant at 9:15 so after nearly 4 hours driving we arrived at 9:05 ready for dinner. The staff were great and the food was very good with quick service. Got to bed for around 12 and up again and out by 7 am but did just the job we needed.

"Generally Good"
Anon627, 29 Août 2016

My husband and I stayed here for one evening. Room clean, shower had a few hairs in (nasty) overall room ok but shabby in some parts especially bathroom (we stayed in 106) was not told it was on the main road so was very noisy, had to keep windows shut so was stuffy inside although there was a fan which we found the next day! To be honest had better breakfasts.

"Greatv Location"
Rui C, 25 Août 2016

I recently stayed at this hotel with a group of 24 people whilst visiting Norfolk on a Gardens tour the Hotel is a fantastic little Hotel located in the heart of Swaffam, close to all its amenities and ideally located for exploring the Norfolk area. They offer great service, friendly staff and there food is great. I would recommend The George Hotel to any visitors to the Norfolk area as it is quality and value for money.......

"Second Group Holiday (42 people) to this wonderful hotel"
Colin C, 23 Août 2016

I have been organising group holidays for our Gardening Society for the past 12 years. This was are second visit to the George. The rooms, food and Staff are excellent. Nothing is to much trouble. Lovely to have waitress service for breakfast, not the normal free for all. We will be staying there again, when we once again holiday in Norfolk

"Tired tired tired."
Peter M, 23 Août 2016

The sunbleached sofas in reception set the tone for the whole hotel. Tired, dated and somewhat odd. Room is lit solely by fluorescent tubes, which I found very unwelcoming. Bathroom had large patch of mould in corner, and the extractor fan was very noisy and was visibly filthy. There was a desk fan in our room, which was also covered in dust from previous guests. Breakfast would have gone some way to redeeming to redeeming the hotel, but unfortunately they found it acceptable to have a crackling mistuned radio playing throughout which was annoying. The juices were all also wrongly labelled, attention to detail.

"Dated"
Alex R, 18 Août 2016

I don't know how this hotel has been highly reviewed by others on trip advisor. My husband and I stayed here for one night. We had expected average accomodation but this was dissapointing and far below average. Needs updating desperately. The door frame was hanging off. The lights in the room were fluorescent- made it impossible to relax when we returned from an evening out. The alarm clock was also out by 10 minutes which really irritated me. Just shoddy. Gave it 2 stars as the shower was hot and powerful & the breakfast was alright.

"Do not book Room 100"
rorymac9, 17 Août 2016

I stayed here two nights last week. Hotel is what you would expect: a bit tired a bit shabby you wouldn't want to eat there unless you had to. Staff are OK. I am writing the review because of the second night. They moved me to Room 100. I couldn't find it so they pointed at the notice board at bottom of stairs with room numbers that began at Room 101. Finally they admitted Room 100 was new (sub-divided I guess) and they hadn't updated any of the signs. Nowhere in the hotel was there anything about Room 100, because I checked. Next morning I asked for a complaints form and was handed the main Best Western flyer. No specific complaints procedure. No interest in what I was saying. Ever been in a hotel fire? I asked. There are no signs to tell anybody Room 100 exists and to check it has been evacuated. Their response: we have a list of all the rooms at Reception! Well, would the firefighters check that in an emergency? So this is unacceptable (and creepy to stay in a room that isn't listed).

"Clean and tidy and just the job!"
Stuart C, 15 Août 2016

Stayed for a friends 50th wedding anniversary party ( also held in the function room ) room was clean, spacious and had all the facilities required ( tea, coffee, tv, radio, hairdryer, complimentary shower gel, shampoo etc. ) and the bed, though firm, was huge! Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Plenty of onsite free parking. The function was organised by the hotel and the buffet was excellent and the room perfect for 100-120 people with outside seating area as well. Thoroughly recommend and happy to stay there again.

"Ok"
Pat S, 06 Août 2016

I found the staff at the staff at the George to be so friendly and helpful. 10 out of 10. The hotel had a tired feeling and the corridor on the first floor needed urgently to be decorated. My room was spotless but a little lack lustre. Room rate very reasonable and breakfast was great.

"THE GEORGE, SWAFHAM"
Bettybog, 03 Août 2016

The hotel staff are extremely helpful (apart from one), and the quality of the food was very good. However, Hotel is in need of an upgrade so don't expect 5* accommodation. It is adequate and the bed was very comfortable.

"Shame out the noise!"
Denise G, 31 Juillet 2016

We stayed here for one night whilst walking Peddar's Way and the Norfolk Coast Path. The twin room was clean and comfortable and it is worth noting that the bathroom was so clean you could eat your dinner off any of the surfaces! It sparkled! Dinner was tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast was ample although a vegetarian proteinalternative to meats sausages, etc. would not have gone amiss. The only complaint I have is that being at the front of the hotel was extremely noisy with traffic all night and loud music and ignorant, shouting people coming from somewhere until 3am which kept me awake. People entering the hotel at that time thundering around and slamming doors was also not conducive to a good night's sleep. This wasn't the fault of the hotel. £70 for this room was what I would be prepared to pay.

"Birthday."
JohnM503790, 29 Juillet 2016

Went for a friend's birthday, when we arrived at check in time was told room would not be ready for another 45mins,not a good start ! Room was comfortable,no shower just attachment on bath, water pressure not good,Windows had dirty net curtains, never been cleaned I don't think, our room was on top floor, two fights of stairs, numerous steps,no lift and with heavy case and bags I was worn out by the time we reached our room.Breakfast was good, plenty of on site parking, staff very friendly just a shame about the room.

"Perfect for business or a leisure stopover in Norfolk"
Elizabeth W, 27 Juillet 2016

I spent just one night at the George on a business trip and was delighted to find that my single room had a bath! The weather was hot so the room was rather over-warm (especially with the hot pipes in the bathroom) but a fan had been provided - a nice touch. The TV in my room was almost inaudible when I got back late evening - presumably to let other residents sleep? All sounded normal in the morning, Friendly, relaxed, peaceful atmosphere - I'd eat here too next time but had no opportunity on this visit.

"Swaffham Soiree"
Matthew S, 18 Juillet 2016

Charming, rural hotel with traditional feel and well appointed rooms. Whilst the hotel is old fashioned, the rooms have excellent Wi-Fi and entertainment facilities. The staff are friendly, considerate and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located close to the centre of Swaffham and is convenient to routes south and to the east.

"Lovely lunchtime venue"
Colin N Dianne H, 13 Juillet 2016

Had a really nice lunch with friends who hadn't been to Swaffham before. One of our party has to have Gluten free diet and The George was the only place in Swaffham that could provide this. We were not disappointed, the meal was excellent. The staff were help full and friendly and the whole experience was most enjoyable.

"Great place to stay"
sparks49, 11 Juillet 2016

We stayed here at the weekend, and was pleasantly surprised ,the rooms are of a high standard, food was great, all in all,the group of friends that I travelled with agreed it ticked all the boxes, the staff are friendly and most helpful, car parking is good and secure, definitely a place we will use again

"Overnight Stay"
Tinkyp1975, 10 Juillet 2016

Stayed at The George for one night. Our room was in the extension block at the back, which was a little tired, but beds were comfortable. We were pleased as it may have been noisy at the front being close to the main road. The shower curtain could do with replacing. Having looked at the evening menu we decided there was not much choice so ate in a very nice pub/restaurant in Swaffam. The breakfast was really nice and served at the table, which we prefer to buffet style. The staff were attentive, polite, helpful and friendly. The receptionist was also very helpful and friendly.

"A really friendly welcome"
Lee K, 04 Juillet 2016

A lovely hotel with very friendly staff, the lady on reception was very helpful. We had a double room which was a good size and nicely decorated. A super comfy bed and a bath and also shower set in a large bathroom. We had a drink in the bar and the barman was great and the bar itself was simply and tastefully done. We didn't eat in the hotel as we had other plans but the restaurant looked nice too. Overall a fabulous weekend. Thanks.

"Economical carvery"
1958speedster356, 03 Juillet 2016

I had Sunday lunch here recently. The dining room was a bit like a canteen- a large room with tables arranged geometrically. It wasn't very charming or attractive, and I'm in my 60's but was probably the youngest person there except for the staff, who were attentive, friendly and cheerful. The carvery was either pork (very good) or beef (very over cooked and dry looking), so I had pork. It was good, although the vegetables had been keeping warm and were not very nice for that reason. I only ate one plateful but could have had much more. We just had one course and some coffee (not brilliant, but I'm a bit fussy about coffee, preferring it freshly ground) and it was about £12 each, which I thought was amazing value. If you are hungry, this is a steal. It's targeted at OAP's on a budget I guess, but as such it's ok. The staff make it very good. I'd prefer something a bit more charming or with more style and with fresher food, but most customers were wolfing it down.

"Great weekend"
John M, 03 Juillet 2016

Weekend break while attending a wedding locally. Welcoming and helpful staff at reception and in the bar area.Very good standard bar food and local beer. Ample free parking and good free wifi connection. Rooms adequate but corridor and stair areas could benefit from a refurbishment. Overall , great value and would return agsin.

"Great Breakfasts, Rubbish Dinners"
jp44943, 27 Juin 2016

Stayed for four nights with my wife and a group of friends. Room in the "modern" block was clean, bathroom tiny with a feeble shower, beds were comfortable, views over backyards and derelict garages dreadful. Although the breakfasts were extremely good, hot and freshly cooked to order, the whole stay was ruined by the really poor evening meals which came with possibly the worst vegetables that I have ever been presented with. Despite complaining very night to the pleasant but despairing waiting staff, there was no improvement in the meal quality. In addition the wine list was both poor and extremely overpriced.. Overall a disappointing stay and I would not recommend a group booking at this hotel.

"Dmarbeck"
dmarbeck, 26 Juin 2016

The reason I have only rated this 'average' is because of the effort to get to our room and it was noisy on the intersection. A quaint building, but a lot of stairs and doors making it difficult with suitcases. Room was huge, but a bit depressing in style. Bathroom was through a door in a funny hallway but still within the suite. Clean and comfortable enough. Reception friendly. Food reasonable,.not a lot to choose from in Swaffham.did not eat breakfast here, but chose to eat at places we visited each day, such as national trust gardens etc.

"Lovely lunch time treat"
Joanne P, 10 Juin 2016

Came here with my aunty for lunch on route to the airport. Always find the staff friendly and smiley, nothing is too much trouble (especially the lady that was behind the bar from Yorkshire) Had the salmon off the specials board, it was cooked to perfection, all in all a great experience and will be back when next in the area :)

"Great over night stay"
Susan E, 08 Juin 2016

Overnight for a wedding in the area. Rooms a little dated but spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast superb and ALL staff were efficient, pleasant and professional. Would definitely recommend to others.

"Very Comfortable but a bit Old Fashioned"
Exile42, 21 Mai 2016

We stayed for one night at the George. The big plus was that there was ample parking. We were warmly welcomed and check in was easy. We were in a room at the top of the hotel overlooking the road junction but were were not troubled by the noise except a few ambulance sirens. The Hotel is old but with character. The floorboards make frequent noises as you moved around so I am not sure how this will sound on the lower floors. The room was clean and comfortable with a large bathroom, flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. The wifi did not work too well in the room, we did not try anywhere else. The bar was very busy and had a couple of decent real ales. It seemed popular for both locals and residents and the bar food looked very good. We ate in the evening in the dining room (same menu as the bar) and were well looked after. The food was hot and to a good standard. The breakfasts were excellent, well cooked and plentiful. Overall the hotel was good value. Well worth another stay when we are next in the area.

"Decent honest hotel"
Sue B, 20 Mai 2016

This hotel does what it says! I have stayed many times. It's a good hotel with some very good deals. It's cosy and inviting and the staff are helpful and polite. I was very impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of all the staff I met. Having read some of the poor reviews everything is relevant. I love the church bells ringing I once stayed in a front facing room by the junction and the noise started at about 6 30am but it didn't detract from my stay. Some rooms are small and others are extremely large. The bar the restaurant and the sleeping areas are in my opinion good and I will certainly continue to return. We had a fly at breakfast but that's not the hotels fault and it certainly wouldn't stop me returning. The George is a good honest hotel with the staff working hard to keep everyone happy and to make their stay as good as possible Some rooms do need to be updated but the hotel is working on. Improvements hence the new car park etc

"nice experience"
juliemM2333JM, 05 Mai 2016

This Hotel is charming we had a very pleasant stay , the staff are so friendly and are a credit to the hotel , we will be back. The friendly bar is a pleasure to be in at night. Location of the building is excellent and a walk around the market town a must .

"Overnight stay"
Jennifer A, 04 Mai 2016

Visiting for a family birthday party and chose this hotel for convenience. Pleasantly surprised, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, good breakfast choice and very nice evening meal. Would definitely revisit and recommend. Good value for money,

"Surprising"
jolyn52, 28 Avril 2016

First time in a Best Western and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were comfortable, even if the bathroom was a little small and "tired". The evening meal was good and the staff pleasant. The breakfast was average and only just warm - probably left standing. Overall pretty good.

"Quiet Break"
lol647, 28 Avril 2016

We stayed here at the beginning of April for two nights. Swaffham is a small market town, several pubs in the town but not a lot else.We ended up eating in the hotel, which was fine ,not a lot to do at night. If you are a lite sleeper, take earplugs,a beautiful church in the town, with a lovely clock which chimes every 15 minutes, other places were easy to reach from here.

"Delightful find"
George M, 25 Avril 2016

Delightful stay. Comfortable room; great food for dinner, and, ample breakfast variety. Free internet useful, as was parking. Most pleased with instant response to requests ... Very accommodating and friendly staff.

"Tired Hotel"
Tony D, 18 Avril 2016

This hotel is in immediate need of moderisation - the plumbing is woeful resulting is little or no water pressure. The creaking floor boards, moving banisters and room doors that needed to be slammed to close suggest a refit is long overdue. The Wi-Fi connection only worked when Costa (The Manager) adjusted the positioning of the router. On the plus side - the staff under Manager, Costa are very helpful and courteous and if you're not fussy about the decor etc - they make your stay a pleasant one.

"Weekly stay"
daveashuk, 14 Avril 2016

We were recommended this hotel for a recent work stay and it was a good choice. Although we were situated in the annex, it was quieter than being at the front of the hotel, except room 58 is on the ground floor by the entrance so you do get noisy arrivals and departures from the bar. We had breakfast every day which was very good and a couple of meals in the evenings that were filling and tasty. The hotel seemed quite popular with the locals and stocked a good selection of local real ales. The room had all the facilities you should need, but looked a bit dates. However, the rates were good and I would strongly consider staying again if I am in the area.

"Charming visit & breakfast"
Mike2kris, 14 Avril 2016

Went here for breakfast, a cozy and charming setting. You can choose a full English breakfast or choose other. We will come back. Close to the sender of town and bus routes. Also, just across the road from St. Peter's church. Well worth walking thru the grounds.

"Birthday meal at the George Hotel"
781trishr, 08 Avril 2016

Because we had received great food and service at our last visit to the George Hotel, I asked my husband to take me there again for my birthday meal. It happened to be steak night which was good as we love a nice steak. The steaks here are superior in flavour and tenderness to any other steak night steak we have had anywhere else. We also enjoyed our starters and the desserts. But what makes the experience extra nice are the really lovely staff at the hotel as they, particularly the assistant manager Costa, went out of their way to be helpful and friendly, even though they were very busy that evening, and to make sure we went home happy, which we did. We can recommend this hotel for a meal, and I am sure we will be back again soon.

"Return visit"
Iobhann, 05 Avril 2016

Having stayed here previously, we knew what was on offer - very friendly, helpful staff, comfy clean bed and we had a better shower this time. The breakfast was excellent with gluten free options. Evening meals were tasty and enough of a choice for our gluten free needs. We will stay here again on our next visit.

"Easter Weekend Break"
marj502, 02 Avril 2016

Nice clean hotel with friendly cheerful staff. Lovey food, very generous portions. Our break included dinner and breakfast. Only downside is Swaffham itself but we just went out and about further afield. Good value for money. Situated next to a busy road.

"Weekend break"
Zarneywoop, 01 Avril 2016

I was paying their winter rate of £55 per night. I don't think I'd have been as happy with the place if I'd have been paying regular rates. Other than the general hotel and room décor being rather dull (nice new shiny car park though!) my only complaint was the water pressure in the bathroom. Having a shower is a bit of a trial. Not untypical of older buildings but not really acceptable in a hotel these days.

"Very good two night stay"
karen r, 27 Mars 2016

We had our two border collies with us, given a twin bed ground floor room. Plenty of space for us all and although the room faced onto the car park we didn't have any problems with noise. Dogs not allowed in any of the public areas. We ate in the hotel both nights, there was a good food choice. The staff were very helpful and friendly, would definitely use this hotel again if in the area.

"Good central location"
Ghislaine334, 27 Mars 2016

First the car park was good and had lots of spaces. Reception was good, bar and restaurant service were brilliant with staff going out of their way to help. Food was good and not too expensive at an average of just under £20 per person for 2 courses and drinks. Our room was huge as was the bathroom but was overlooking the street so it was quite noisy, the heating was also noisy so I turned off radiator. Room was still warm enough. Shower head needs attention but overall a very pleasant stay.

"Cold bathroom. Hard, uncomfortable bed and Pillows."
Hilary B, 16 Mars 2016

I was disappointed with my stay. Whilst the Hotel initially appeared welcoming and friendly and I was well disposed to like it, the Towel rail in the bathroom did not work and, as it was a large tiled bathroom on 4 sides on a coldish night, it was consequently freezing in there. - How could they not have noticed this especially as I now see another review mentions the very same problem? When I informed Reception the young lad who helped with bags was sent to "fix" it but was out of his depth and although he thought he had turned it on, it never came on. Anyway, it was not really his job; I would have thought the manager would be overseeing those details? As it was too late to get into the business of swapping rooms etc I slept in the room but had to skip a shower in the morning, it was just too cold in there and the towel was still all wet. Personally, I think this is Poor, not average, hence 2* reluctantly which is a shame as they were very helpful about other aspects. So my advice is check the heating and get moved immediately if it is not to your satisfaction. I think listening to the customer is not possibly a strong point of this Hotel as the waitress at Breakfast also did not really listen when I changed my order. However there is a good choice available so it was not the end of the world! It was not a very good nights sleep - I do not like hard beds - others might- and the pillows too were uncomfortable and hard. So, all in all, disappointing.

"Another successful visit"
friday68, 16 Mars 2016

Thankfully on our return to this hotel we found that it was as good as on previous visits. Although not advertising disabled facilities, with the help of all the staff, we were able to get around the hotel in a wheelchair without too much difficulty. Our room was clean and well equipped, the bed large and comfortable, the en-suite was quite small and being at the back of the accommodation area, as requested, the hot water took a time to reach us. The wi-fi reception in our room, 54, was not good, but worked well in the reception area. All the staff were very considerate and the service was good. The "acid test" would we return? Definitely Yes!

"great value"
mary c, 14 Mars 2016

There are different choices available to book this hotel so it pays to take time and look into.We always manage to get good deal-sometimes includes breakfast-and on points system too. Suits us as it is en route to our destination that usually is visiting family dotted around North Norfolk. We have eaten there many times, meals are excellent. Recent upgrade to car park has made all the difference-looks great.

"1970's style motel extension at the back"
2014Jandy, 11 Mars 2016

We booked this hotel as it is part of the Best Western chain and as it was a 16th century coaching inn and looked great in the images. So really looking forward to staying in an old hotel. How disappointed we were when we realised there was a 1970's style motel extension at the rear of the hotel. The room was ok but the bathroom was small. dated and the shower was terrible. Nothing you could do as it was old fashioned straight off the taps so the pressure was very poor and waited an age for hot water and then it was either very hot or ice cold. We were only there a couple of nights so made the best of it, Breakfast was very good so made up a little for the disappointment of the bathroom.

"On the up"
IanandLesleyD, 05 Mars 2016

Just stayed in room 100, which has been refurbished very recently. Bed was comfortable, room decor pleasant, and en suite clean and smart. Only suggestion would be additional glazing on window overlooking function room, as a little loud when cars arrive and leave. Otherwise, a great place to stay now.

"Friendly staff"
Ogina, 04 Mars 2016

The hotel is dated and needs some refurbishment. We stayed in room 203 which is large and has two standard single beds pushed together and a large mattress. The bed really wasn't that comfortable, the bathroom is a bath only in reality, there is a shower attachment but just for rinsing your hair in my opinion. Breakfast is average, I certainly wouldn't say it was brilliant. Mind you the staff are very accommodating and will help with any requests. We paid £85 for one night, that's too expensive for this hotel. I would say keep going through swaffham towards Bury St Edmunds and Thetford for more happening places to stay.

"Pure 1970's. Needs cleaning, revamping and repairing "
Hazel S, 01 Mars 2016

Will not be back, for what they charge you would expect at least a decent standard. On a plus side the food is reasonable . For anyone with mobility problems this hotel is a total wash out. There are absolutely no facilities for disabled people . Basically it is very poor.

"Excellent hotel"
Jeffery S, 01 Mars 2016

We have just had an excellent 3 day break at the George Hotel, Swaffham, Norfolk. The room was big with a queen size bed. The breakfast was excellent. The optional evening meal was also excellent. The hotel staff were very attentive and courteous. We would thoroughly recommend it.

"A 'Very' Quiet Break."
ron n N, 01 Mars 2016

Having a few days off together, we decided that it would be a great opportunity for us to explore North Norfolk and booked a Sunday night at the George Hotel. Being a part of the Best Weston group, we knew pretty much what to expect, and we were not disapointed. The room was a good size with two single beds pushed together to make the equivelant of a super king size bed. We at in the bar rather than choose the table-clothed dining room and the food was of a high standard. We discovered very early on that a problem with the internet supplier meant that we were in effect cut off from the outside world but as we were only going to be there for the one night, we put up with it. It would be more of a problem for visiting business men. From now on, I will make a point of asking about the Internet service before booking. All in all, it would be churlish of me to complain in any way. We were warm and comfortable and the food and drink was up to par.

"Room standard"
Ed A, 01 Mars 2016

Two nights in room 106 left both of us vey dissatisfied with Best Western. We have stayed in their hotels before with only minor issues. However, this hotel's room left a lot to be desired. The first night the bedding was too light and we both woke up cold several times. The shower attachment was held in place by a plastic shoe horn. The wc seat was very loose. A double glazing panel was missing from a window facing on to a busy road and defeated the object that other double glazed Windows provided. We will seriously look for alternative hotels to Best Western in the future.

Stayed here for one night whilst we had a Valentines Day meal at the amazing Kings Arm Coaching Inn in the town. We booked as a member of Best Western and even on Valentine's weekend got the room including breakfast for £45 as part of a winter deal. Stayed in room 203 which is a very large double, Super King size bed, clean and warm bathroom, quiet and free wifi. All the usual extras such as toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits. The hotel itself is slightly tired but friendly service and a great price and location ??.

"Perfectly adequate"
uhhuhlex, 27 Janvier 2016

We stayed because it was near somewhere we needed to be. I found the price reasonable. Our room was very large and clean. It could do with some updating and the in room TV seemed very small and far away! Like other former coaching inns, it has 'old charm' - so don't expect uniform corridors. We had breakfast and it was on a par with other hotels of this type - a limited continental selection and a cooked options. Some light sleepers may find the creaking floorboards and single glazing to the street to be problematic. I noticed it but didn't find it too troubling.

ChesterfieldChris, 25 Janvier 2016

Excellent weekend stay at this hotel. The staff were very professional and couldn't do enough to may our stay comfortable. However, the decor is a bit tired and the bathroom needed refurbishing. The bed was comfortable and clean. Excellent breakfast in the price of the room.

"Not disabled friendly "
Peter B, 23 Janvier 2016

We could not stay with the rest of the family due to the steps within the hotel . not disabled friendly no lift etc to other floors plus at least 4 steps to the 1st bedrooms. The food was Ok nothing outstanding

"Clean & comfortable, great value"
Fauts, 19 Janvier 2016

Got a great rate at this hotel by booking directly from the Best Western site, £32.50 B&B . The hotel is an old building that has character. The decor is dated, quirky & worn in places but the welcome was very warm. We had room 107, a huge bed, clean linen & towels. It was a chilly night & when we arrived our room was cold, l found a heater in the wardrobe which warmed us up fairly quickly, l asked for extra blankets which were put in our room whilst we were out. The bathroom again dated but clean & everything worked. Breakfast was very good, fruit, cereal & a good choice of cooked options. We slept very well & enjoyed our stay. As we have friends in the area we would defiantly consider staying again.

"The best budget hotel we could find !"
chimaera2015, 16 Janvier 2016

Clean , newly refurbished , great polite staff made our stay a real pleasure. Breakfast to die for ! really first class and well worth the small extra cost . Also very handy for the town of Swaffham as positioned right in the centre . Secure private parking at rear as well so no worries there.

"Good hotel"

"Not Quite The Ticket"
Wiltshire-feet, 04 Janvier 2016

Our visit began well with the helpful Receptionist being able to change one of the rooms booked from a twin to a double. The other positives were that the wifi was good and free, the radiator worked so that we could adjust the temperature of the room, the duvet and pillows were fine and tea and coffee facilities were well stocked. Breakfast was adequate and the bathroom was clean. We did hear the town clock throughout the night but as we were at the back it didn't disturb us too much. However, the beds were too hard for us, the shower was poor i.e very underpowered and over a bath and the doors to the room could do with an oiling as they creak and bang! On our first night we ate in the bar and the lady behind the bar was very helpful. That evening we were informed via a notice on the reception that the restaurant and bar would be closed on the following evening (Sunday) due to a staff party. We had to find food and drink elsewhere with a very limited choice as most other restaurants were closed on a Sunday. When we returned to the hotel at about 8.30 pm, the main entrance from the street was locked and the only way in was by crawling under the car barrier (which had a warning sign to pedestrians asking for this not to be done) and entering from the car park. Having explained to the night porter how inconvenient this had been for an elderly member of our group, he quipped, "Couldn't you squeeze past?" Hardly, as the distance was about six inches..... The hotel is central, reasonably priced and has good car parking facilities free for residents. However, there wasn't a lift to our rooms and in hindsight, I don't think we would book again which is a shame because our experiences in other Best Westerns have been good.

"Excellent"

"Traditional Hotel"
SimonODP, 15 Décembre 2015

Stayed here one night as part of a package going to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. Rooms were very warm, the beer was very good and the evening meal a festive delight. Couple this with a good English breakfast and you are onto a winner. The Wi-Fi worked well, in all areas a good stay.

"Friendly, clean and would stay again"
Knockout, 05 Décembre 2015

Stayed in Swaffham for 3 nights with colleagues on business. Found the George to be friendly and comfortable but as has previously been mentioned, the bedrooms are a little tired but clean. It was nice to have free WiFi, a waiter/waitress service at breakfast and free parking, all of which are sadly lacking at many hotels these days. Found the breakfast to be of good quality and the evening meal that we had one evening, was also very good. Good choice of beers in the bar and comfortable modern surroundings.

"OK but would not rush back"
Steve F, 26 Novembre 2015

As we all know, you get what you pay for and the George Hotel is proof of this. I booked via Hotels.com at a reasonable price but even with this taken in to consideration, my stay was less than impressive. Booking in was OK and the lady on reception was efficient and polite. My room was clean but in need of urgent renovation. The building is very old so this is only to be expected. The room was large with two single beds pushed together to mack one large double, which was unfortunately very uncomfortable. One of the windows had no secondary double glazing and they had used towels rolled up to block out noise and draughts, which didn't really work. I was at the front of the hotel so the traffic woke me at a very early hour. The bathroom was clean but again in need of some attention, the shower was on the blink and took a long time to regulate the temperature and water flow. In the morning Breakfast was OK but nothing to right home about, at the time of booking out they tried to charge me again, even though I had paid at the time of booking. Its not the worst place iv stayed in but a long way from being the best.

"hristmas show at Thurso"
MY4KGMVA, 21 Novembre 2015

Stayed at the George Hotel at swaffham for one night after we had been to the Christmas show at Thurso, which was brilliant the hotel, food, staff , and our bedroom, what else can I say that everything was excellent Thank you all

"Fair and Honest"
Chris D, 15 Novembre 2015

This is a good hotel. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do more to help us. The room was clean and tidy and the full English breakfast was as you would expect. The only thing that may put you off is the early 90s decor, that is in need of a real vamp but the place certainly was busy and it has its particular charm. Would certainly stay again.

"Pretty good but little things matter "
Steve H, 02 Novembre 2015

Stayed one night with friends . Whilst hotel is undergoing some work , that is pretty well controlled so don't be put off by the external appearance . Our room was comfortable and very clean . Breakfast was excellent - freshly cooked and plenty of it . Restaurant staff very attentive and friendly Only real complaint was that the bar staff weren't particularly friendly or helpful - asked if it was ok to have the Rugby World Cup Final on TV . Barmaid said yes , but then took 15 minutes to actually to change the channel . Then we weren't allowed the sound on despite asking everyone else in the bar if that was ok - I guess she just didn't want it on ....... That's fine . If she had just said no to the original request we'd have gone to the pub .

"One night at the George Hotel"
781trishr, 31 Octobre 2015

We stayed last night at George Hotel in Swaffham, while we visited our new house that we are moving into soon. We could not fault the hotel in any way; something was being done to the car park, so that we entered the hotel via the back and along the corridor of the new part of the hotel. Our room turned out to be just by the entrance to it, but there was no problem, like noise of people clomping in and out - we heard very little and slept very well in an enormous bed in a clean, comfortable room. We had dinner as well which was very good, my husband enjoyed his soup and I had a huge starter of whitebait which almost (but not quite) spoilt my appetite for the chicken George, served with some of the best chips I had ever had and a home made roll. The next morning we also had an excellent Full English with lovely sausages and bacon, and eggs done just right. Our waiter was quick, efficient and attentive. I was impressed with the décor of the hotel, which was clean and bright in the public areas. Well done, Best Western - the Hotel George was much better than I was expecting - I was expecting it to look slightly tired, but it didn't, it was great and I would recommend it to anyone - maybe for visitors in the future who we can't accommodate in our new home.

"Market town experience."
Jean D, 31 Octobre 2015

Very nice clean hotel, undergoing some renovation/redecoration. Downside is the car park which has a very narrow entrance, but on the bright side, is currently being resurfaced! Rooms are clean and tidy, beds most comfortable. The restaurant is good value for money and the service is good.

"Good for the price"
Katherine H, 27 Octobre 2015

I stayed here over the weekend with my husband as we were visiting family in the area. The room was only £43.35 and was a decent size. I can't fault the actual room as it was clean and recently decorated with everything we needed. There were just a few little things which made the stay less than perfect. The room we had was extremely warm even though the heating wasn't on. This meant that we needed to have the window open. The room was overlooking the kitchen and, as the window was open, we could hear all the noise from inside. There was the expected plate and preparation noise, but the shouting from the staff was what kept us awake. Fortunately this stopped at around 11pm and didn't start up until around 7am. It would not be enough to put me off staying again but I would ask for a different room. Well worth the money paid and a really convenient location .

"Tired Hotel"
romanihouse, 24 Octobre 2015

Spent the night of 23rd October aftrr a long drive from Hull and attending a funeral in Norwich. Receptionist was very pleasant and check in was good. The hotel is very worn and tired. Carpets in corridor and room very stained (room 56). We were very tired so did not venture into the restaurant or bar. The bathroom was very small and also worn. Found a hair in the bath. Fluffy white towels and tea making facility with biscuits. Toiletries supplied of good quality. Breakfast was very good although my husband ordered scrambled egg and got fried. Hotel part of a world wide chain who should be able to give it a much needed upgrade.

"Good value hotel"
John G, 18 Octobre 2015

Rooms were good, bathroom adequate. Breakfast and evening meal very good. Lounge bar was great for a drink. Some of the decor is looking a little tired but clean. The only negative was the bed was hard and somewhat uncomfortable. The car park area was being re-surfaced so a little untidy but did not intrude. Reception was being refurbished but again no real problem. Overall a very pleasant stay and good value

"Best Western Hotel"
mary c, 11 Octobre 2015

Excellent value for room only which only seems to be on offer occasionally (why?). I think room only stay is definitely lacking in Norfolk. The option of breakfast/evening meal is available which also gives choices which suits most people. A convenient location too.

"Friendly hotel in small market town"
Martandjan, 04 Octobre 2015

I stayed here for just one night. For £42 including breakfast (which was excellent, incidentally), you can't complain. The room was comfortable, it had tea/coffee making facilities and a good selection of Freeview TV channels. On the negative side, the shower was a bit rubbish, the furnishings were a bit old-fashioned and I was cold in the night due to a very light duvet - but the staff were lovely (typically friendly East Anglians!) and overall - for just over £40 - it was excellent value.

"Weekend stay at a comfortable and welcoming hotel"
stalbansfife, 30 Septembre 2015

Our accommodation was in room 57, new block, ground floor, back of hotel, comfortable and clean.and the shower was hot. Staff friendly, obliging, and on the "ball". We were a party of classic car owners who sat down to dinner and the service was well organised and tasty. Swaffham itself we found interesting, town museum and church well worth a visit. Overall nice central, convenient, and comfortable.

"FIRST CLASS HOTEL"

"Historic Hotel offers modern service and comfortable rooms (Good food too!)"
TravellingPandaA2B, 23 Septembre 2015

Quirky historic property, obviously much modified and adjusted over the years. Enjoyed a very good nights sleep. Excellent value for money. Enjoyed a two night get away here. Breakfast on the first day was perhaps the best cooked breakfast that I have ever had. The next day was very good but not quite the same, maybe a different Chef? Still good though. There was something very special about the Sausages, I think they must have been local. To be honest there's not much to do in Swaffham, so a day or two will be ample to have done the town quite thoroughly. However it is a good base location for touring the region. All the staff were jolly and helpful which was a pleasure. It felt like a real home from home. I would definitely go back here again.

"only stay if its a good price its worth no more than a travel inn"
charlie_dog, 22 Septembre 2015

stayed at the hotel on the way to the coast for the weekend. The car park is at the rear of the hotel and there are two ways into it. The entrance to the hotel was at the rear of the building and the receptionist was friendly, helpful and kind in booking me a table in the bar prior to them stop food sales at 9pm. They do sell sandwiches room service until 11pm. There is a chip shop and other takeaways nearby and quite a few pubs within walking distance. there was also an asda and a local papershop within 5 minutes walk. The hotel room was very old fashioned, the bed a bit hard but comfortable. My room overlooked the rear yard and there was bright lights that shined through the curtain. The staff were accommodating and turned this light off after I asked nicely and explained it would keep me awake. The bathroom was really old fashioned probably 30 years old, I would stay there again if it was cheap as it was only 20 mins drive to kings lynn and an hour to sheringham. Ate in the bar the fish was tiny for the 9.95 charge, mushy peas runny and my daughters macaroni cheese was overpriced for 8.95. WE didn't bother with breakfast. The bar area was too light and not like a normal bar at all.
