Je m’inscris Stayed for one night. Was ok for our needs. Had a nice pool. Was slightly confusing entering the parking lot as there is another building we thought was the hotel . Felt safe and had no concerns. Good buffet breakfast. Friendly staff. Rooms were sufficient for our needs . Nice little outside pool
We were moved three separate times due to the air not working in one room, roaches in another, & the last room had dirty wash clothes in it. When we wanted to get a refund after moving twice we were told we could continue moving until we found something that fit our accommodations or we could check out after one night & get a refund for the next day. Even though the refund wouldn't or couldn't be refunded without the managers approval Monday (she was there the next day despite saying that) None of which would work because we had a sick toddler & it was 12/1am in the morning. Not only were there rooms with issues but I had a family member get sick & was charged $75 for stained linens when half the linen was placed in a corner already dirty. It was a terrible experience to say the least however the breakfast and attendant were great.
The big women at the desk was so rude !!! And the room was nasty. Also the phone didn't work. But they had week old cookies! If you want breakfast go some where else , this isn't breakfast. Ice machine didn't work but they didn't care said there was another on the other side. Hope you enjoy!
Entrance to the motel can be a bit tricky to find, it's kind of tucked in the back of a parking lot. The motel is a bit old and out dated on the outside of it. When we got to our room it was comfortable and did everything I needed it to do. Comfortable bed and a good breakfast before going to the football game.
They do not have an elevator but have a second story. I paid over $400 for 1 night because there was a game that day. I was not there for the game but everything was sold out. When I found out they didn't have an elevator, I tried to cancel our reservation. They wouldn't cancel it.
The staff is friendly. The room was a bit shabby needs the worn out furniture replaced. Bathroom floor was sticky. I left a note for the cleaning staff but since they did not bother to make up the room they did not clean it.
This is the second time we have stayed at a BW in Tuscaloosa. The first in North Port. This stay was very good. We stayed here for 3 nights during parents weekend at UofA. The hotel was clean, quiet, and we were well pleased. Although it is right off the interstate we did not hear a thing. The staff were very nice and willing to assist where they could. The prices were raised quite a bit over normal because of the football game and it being parents weekend, however All hotels did that. If there was one thing I would recommend to this hotel it would be to replace or upgrade the room carpet.
Lordy, where do I begin?!?! The very first night we arrived, a guy was getting arrested in front of the inn. Not one, not two, not three but four cop cars were there. Okay, we just shrugged it off and went inside. It is a motel style complex, with all rooms having an exterior door. We booked three rooms, and two had problems with them. One had a musty, carpet mildewy smell, so that friend requested a new room, only to get a new room with a toilet that doesn't flush and it still smells a bit off (must be the carpet). The other two rooms were "pet friendly", which we didn't know but it was to our benefit as it meant laminate plank flooring (no carpet stink). Unfortunately, we were kind of missing a shower curtain and we were super low on TP (like a few sheets left). Had to request a new shower curtain & TP (just one roll). Stayed three nights, never had housekeeping except fresh towels and garbage removed. We asked why they don't make the beds and they said it's not their policy to make beds until people check out. Strange for a BW hotel as it is nothing like what we expect. There were spider webs everywhere (on the desks, lamps, etc) so it is obvious the rooms don't get any attention. The bright side is their breakfast room is bright, cheerful and had just enough food to satisfy anyone there (from yogurt to scrambled eggs to make your own waffles). The staff there is always cheeful (although the day clerk can be a bit grumpy). If you're looking for a place to rest your head and you don't care about bugs, spiders, missing items, or a funny smell, this place is for you!
Room not clean. Check your beds. Sheets were not clean yet beds were made. They allow pets and pee on bed. Microwave, frig and bathroom not clean, sticky food all over. Not vacuumed, garbage on floor. Brought wipes and wiped sink counter and was filthy. Breakfast is good. Pool is ok.
This used to be a great place to stay, but it isn't any longer. I completed their survey and made suggestions, so I really hope they can improve things and bring it back to what it used to be. If this is how their hotel is now, then I would not recommend to stay here. I don't like to leave negative reviews, so I will leave it at that.
Great Location Very Friendly Staff. The rooms have a not the beat this is the 2nd time at this location . 1st time was really great experience this time the room the bed was a little hard the room was a little musty smelling there was only 1 small bar of hand soap to shower and to wash your hands with. The Coffee pot was never cleaned from previous customers.
Stayed both coming and going on a trip to the Ozarks. This is the perfect 1/2 way point for my trip. Great breakfast, clean rooms and friendly staff. I'll definitely stay again next year when I repeat my 2 week trip to Arkansas.
Very nice, convenient location. Felt safe for myself and automobile. Rooms were great and updated. Breakfast bar was really convenient and great selections. Staff were very friendly and pleasant. Great stay at a great rate.
This hotel is very close to everything. Great value for money and friendly staff. They put on a great breakfast, something for everyone and I enjoyed the fresh cookies and coffee daily in the lobby. Will definitely stay here again. Roll Tide!
The expectation of paying an exorbitant amount of money per night on gameday weekend is that all things will work in the hotel. And this hotel failed. The sink and tub did not drain while using them. So, my family and I washed hands, brushed teeth, and took showers in standing water during each use.
Very dirty very unfriendly never stay here again wouldn't change rooms without charging me it was a complete disaster the breakfast wasn't on time and when I checked in I must have interrupted something bc she was so rude and annoyed with me
The room was disgusting. Used bag on the ice bucket. The floors were so dirty it made my socks dirty, and wiped part of it with a towel because my socks and feet were getting horrible and they were going to double charge us to change rooms because we had a dog. It was supposed to be 130.00 a night it ended up being 235.00 and we didn't change rooms. We left and they charged us anyway. We were supposed to get a free few night with the summer night rewards program and they said it had to be given by the motel that we stayed at in the summer to get a free night. So disappointed. Dirty shower dirty mirror and stuff not even restocked
I've stayed in a lot of motels and hotels in my day and this motel was very clean and updated for its age. I slept very well for it being next to Interstate 10. Did not here the traffic from my room. AC hummed very quietly ran very efficiently. All the other amenities were average, but the room was very clean. The breakfast served was very good. (I had biscuits and sausage with scrambled eggs.) The staff personnel were very courteous and pleasant. I would high recommend this motel especially for the bargain price to family and friends.
The Staff is exceptional. The rooms are clean and the water is hot. There is truck and trailer parking. The beds are VERY VERY VERY FIRM. The breakfast is a good continental type. It varies on types of meat. There is 2 types of juice. Cereal is also available. As well as make your own waffles
Overall not a bad hotel! We had a small issue with one of our rooms. Stained sheets and a bug. The staff was apologetic and tended to it right away. I do wish they had USB ports in the room to make charging devices more convenient.
Mildew, musty odors and plenty of cockroaches it was horrible for our family and it was the opening U.O.A. football game and we couldn't find another place to stay...! Pay more if you have to. And don't be forced as we were with most all hotels booked that weekend.....!
Please do not stay here! We walk in a “cleaned” room only to find white substance on the floor, pubs on the bed covering and blood in the sink. If I could rate it a 0 I would. Please look at other budget hotels in the area. There are a lot of hotels seeing how it is a college town.
Staff was excellent. Great field in back for dog to run. Not the best area. Floor was filthy and sticky. Nice to be able to pull car up to room for easy access. No places to get dinner close by as O'Charleys has closed down.
Stayed here for a college visit. Nowhere near university as expected. The staff was friendly, the rooms were reasonably clean and the breakfast was decent. Would not stay here again, but it served our needs.
Rooms very small. Exterior doors open to the outside not a hallway, much less secure. Asked for 2 queen beds, they were not. Much narrower. The whole place was worn and not very clean. Not a great area of town. Wouldn't recommend or stay there again.
Bed was comfy, felt safe and secure. Updated sink area and breakfast was great! Scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage and biscuits and gravy! Plus continental items. Friendly staff. O'Charleys restaurant within walking distance. A little slow on service, but after a 10 hour drive was nice to relax a bit. Easy on/off I20, but never heard the freeway in our room and we were right by it due to a pet room.
Friendly staff and service. Rooms were clean. The hotel is quiet and peaceful. Great place to get a great night's rest . Our go to hotel when visiting Tuscaloosa. Nicely decorated and very comfortable
Paid a VERY high rate due to Parents Weekend at the local University which I fully understand. Supply and demand as they say. The room was clean overall. Everything else fell below my expectations and I have stayed at a bunch of Best Westerns. Wanted a 2pm check out and was DECLINED. Normally I would not complain but paying $350 plus per night for a let me be honest DUMPY MOTEL (outside entrances), I expected to have my request approved.
Room was clean, bed was comfortable. A/C was a little noisy but cooled well.Key card worked easily just pass close to lock and green lights came on door opened and closed easily. Bed was in good shape and comfortable.
This trip was due to my evacuating after a hurricane hit my city. The staff and their attentiveness was great. the rooms were clean and items needed (a blanket for our beds, clean towels, tissue, and coffee) were provided since i did not want the room cleaned by the staff while i was there. the pool was clean and very relaxing
We were travelling home after a funeral. We called while on the road. The young lady gave us a good rate and let us know she'd be expecting us. She called me by name & told me how glad she was that we had chosen Best Western. She made a few suggestions for us that we asked about. She was "spot on."
We have stayed at this property twice while visiting the University of Alabama. Both times we have been very impressed. Our family came in April '21 for our daughter to tour the University of Alabama campus to help make her final college decision. Most recently, we stayed for 3 days while moving our daughter in to start her college experience. The hotel is conveniently located right off I-20. We checked in late and the clerk was extremely pleasant to work with in getting checked in. The rooms are very clean and have all that we needed. They offer a great breakfast each morning which is a major PLUS for us in both saving money and time to eat on premise. We came back to a clean room each night after a long day. Also, the property is well-lit to provide for adequate security. The only issue we had was with some short-term road construction that made accessing the entrance by O'Charley's a little cumbersome when coming from the university. But, we knew how to navigate around with only a few minutes of delay. We think this Best Western is an awesome value for the price. While it is not swanky nor have all the frills of a big hotel (like restaurant, room service, bar, etc.), it has all we need when we are town because we spend most our time with our daughter at UA or out and about. You can rest easy at Best Western University Inn!!!!
Best Western University Inn was a great choice for our family and our dog who traveled with us. Tucked back off the main road it had enough green space to accommodate our dog comfortably and not feel like we were walking her next to a busy road. Pool was also refreshing and a nice size.
Hotel has several rooms under construction. Just happened they have us the room right next to one of the rooms under construction. Every morning starting @ 9am - banging and hammering. Towels were not clean, hair in shower drain and bathroom has a VERY STRONG mildew odor.
The breakfast was an actual breakfast. The front desk staff was very nice and so was the attendant at breakfast. We stayed pretty much to just sleep and head out back on the road. In comparison to some other hotels this hotel had friendliest staff I have seen in a while.
Checked in at 4:30pm and saw this hotel was a renovation of an older style hotel with two stories. I asked for a first floor room and was told none were available. I then asked if there was a luggage cart as I did not see one. The answer was "Yes, but it won't go up the stairs." I was given a room on the second floor as far away from the stairs as she could manage. In the downpour, I had to make three trips up the stairs, which were not covered to get all the stuff into my room from the car. All the rooms had outside access. IN the morning, as I left at 4:00am, the cars present told me the hotel could only be 20% full....max. In the room, I did not see a channel listing for the tv so I called the front desk and asked if the GOLF channel was available. "I don't know." was the answer. Room itself was ok, though both the clock on the nightstand and the clock on the microwave did not work. I would not recommend this hotel.
My spouse and I were traveling from Florida to Tennessee and wanted a convenient place to stay overnight so that we could visit the Native American mounds in Moundsville, about 20 minutes away from Tuscaloosa. I like Best Western hotels because of the hot breakfast and fast Internet that most BW facilities have. Trip Advisor gave a good rating to this particular Best Western, so we decided to stay. Although the room was on the second floor and this particular facility does not have an elevator, the stairs were manageable. The room was clean, shower and tub worked fine, refrigerator was larger than many at other hotel rooms, and both check-in and check-out were quick. The hot breakfast was better than I expected, with both bacon and sausage to accompany the scrambled eggs. They also refilled the bacon when it ran out - a rare event in my experience. Lots of other breakfast options for vegetarians, as well. We did not use any other amenities such as the pool or exercise room, so I cannot comment on those features.
We stopped at this Best Western on our way back from Tennessee. The big 8 foot pool is what helped make our decision! The front desk ladies were very nice, check in/out was quick. The rooms were a decent size and clean. Breakfast was delicious with many choices of food and beverages. The beds were a little firmer than we'd have liked, but not horrible. I would recommend this hotel and if we ever pass through again, this is where we'll stay!
So satisfying to stay here again after a year of no travel. This Best Western features a very friendly and upbeat staff and well appointed rooms that have been recently FILLED with all new features. Even the lampshades still have the cellophane wrappers!! Exceptionally comfortable and welcoming.
Even though I hate Alabama (I'm an LSU person), I like to stay here. All the basics plus some. It's an old style motel in a great location. People are always nice and breakfast is wonderful (except for Covid).
This was for a UA graduation- more than $300 a night they didn't clean the room and then we had to go get towels - it's an old property that desperately needs updating - the beds were barely a full size not queen - the tv is tiny too
This property is out dated! Staff was not friendly at check in it seemed like I was inconvenience them to check me in and never acknowledged me as a rewards guest. Also be careful in the parking lot we were approached several times by homeless people begging for money and I had two little kids with me so didn't feel safe at that hotel after that. Not to mention they would not give me a room on the first floor I had to walk up the stairs with two kids and make several trips to get luggage in the room up the stairs. The rooms are out dated and smell like mold and the beds are horrible. Then trying to check out to get receipt I waited 30 minutes and never saw anyone so I just left my keys at the front desk we had to get on the road. I'm a travel agent and definitely will not recommend this property to my family or clients. Worse experience with a Best Western I have ever had!
Checking in the clerk wasn't wearing a mask (during pandemic) and was not very courteous or friendly. Pointed out my room but indicated the wrong direction to go. The bathroom floor hadn't been mopped in a while as there was dried pee on the floor. The manager said Best Western no longer wants luggage racks in the room, it didn't have one, despite every other Best Western I have stayed in having them, I believe she lied. The only redeeming feature was a great breakfast during the pandemic.
First of all, the breakfast is amazing! The rooms are exceptionally clean and the staff is super friend and helpful with a sweet and funny lady that checked us in. It was conveniently located next to a restaurant and easy to get to from the interstate.
Great food and staff I would recommend this for any purpose business trip or just a vacation. The breakfast is well cooked and taste good. The cookies that's giving are also soft and good... you want be disappointed.
Coil spring beds , non working clock alarm, TV will turn on every 4 hours and wake you up, only upper floor rooms. All rooms on lower floor being redone and we needed Handicap room for wife with bad knee and had a hard time with stairs. Should have went somewhere else!
We have stayed at this location before in the same room during the remolding ,in the same room 3 months prior. We were very tired when we checked in,carried our stuff up turned on the heat. We noticed a smell. We left to grab something to eat to bring back. After we ate I went to the desk to get 2 extra blankets. I tell the lady about the urine smell. We were just to tired to move all of our stuff to another room, and we should not have to. The lady did give me a can of spray and it did help, I used it several times. We found a big wet spot beside the bed. The bedskirts had dog hairs on them. We do travel with our dog. But we should have a clean room that smells clean also. They do charge a $20 pet fee. The TV channels were fuzzy and the remolding work started at 7am the next morning. Just very disappointed with the stay. The people at the front desk are very nice and friendly.
We paid $134 for one night. There was no negotiating on this deal. We are in our sixties and had to climb stairs to the second floor dragging luggage with us. This hotel wasn't even a quarter filled that night so why we couldn't get a ground floor room and a cheaper price was beyond me. The internet was sketchy, the bed was not comfortable, and there were cockroaches in the room. This property is in need of some updating. I know that the southern states have more bugs but we stayed in many hotels all over the south and east and never encountered cockroaches. Makes me question their Covid practices. I was also surprised to see that they served a full breakfast during Covid-19 times when every other hotel we stayed in gave us pre-packaged breakfasts.
The receptionist seemed annoyed that I used Reward Points to pay for the stay. She never smiled, not even once. The room appeared to be clean. I saw a small roach in the sink as I was getting ready for bed. My husband was awakened at 1:00 a.m. by a roach running over his arm as he was sleeping. We tore the bed apart looking for it and saw it for a fleeting second. It got away and we could not find where it went. I will not stay at this location again.
Woke up at 7:30am to the sound of renovations being done to the rooms underneath me, equivalent to the sound of someone hitting the front door with a hammer. Immediately went to the front desk to complain about the noise, which is not something I usually do. When I told the front desk manager she simply said they had some flooding and were doing renovations. I told her I understand that but maybe they could start at checkout time, which she responded “well... they're carpenters so they can't do that”. After hearing that I just walked out. I'll be contacting corporate for a refund immediately. I simply came her expecting nothing more than a good night's rest and this hotel couldn't even deliver that.
Reserved online and were not told it was a smoking room. Had to stay because we had no other options at that point and were told it was the only room left. I didn't even know smoking rooms still existed. Was so disgusting that we couldn't sleep. Outdated property that charged more than I paid to stay at a much nicer location the night before. Terrible experience.
While this is an older BW (rooms open to outdoors) it was very nice. Quite. Carpet looked new, beds were comfortable & there was a nice breakfast buffet. Large selection of food (even bacon & ham). Will definitely be back.
I had read some bad reviews online regarding this hotel's cleanliness and almost didn't stop here. Being tired from driving, we did stop and found it to be very clean. So don't always believe what you read. I don't require a fancy hotel room, but I do require a clean one. I was relieved. The front desk was friendly too. Due to online rumors, I told her my hesitation and she allowed me to preview the room before finalizing my check in.
Very pleased to find the BW on the weekend of graduation.. It was a perfect fit. We were only a few minutes away from the University and close to Food and Gas. The staff was very helpful, the rooms were comfortable and clean.
My son has been at UA for 4 years. We have stayed here MANY times over the years and really thought it was nice and clean with a very friendly staff. I just cannot figure out what happened. I reserved 2 rooms this past weekend totaling over $1200!! The front desk staff could not have been nicer and I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms had been updated as far as the furnishings. That is where it ended. They updated the furnishings yet there is mold all over the bathrooms. The grime and hair in that bathroom was absolutely disgusting especially behind the bathroom door. One of the rooms we had had dog food all over the floor and smelled like a wet dog. My family complained to the housekeeper and not one thing was done. On game day the rooms were not cleaned at all. I had to go and ask for more towels and I didn't even get an apology. There was a man in the room next door to us that sat outside and smoked all the time which made our room smell too. Nothing was done about that either. I have another child going to UA in the fall and we will not be coming back to the this hotel.
We booked this hotel for a 3-night stay. Room cost $299/night. Smelled moldy when we checked in. Room did not get made up for 2 days, and despite complaining, they said “there is nothing we can do about it.” Just awful! Have stayed at really nice Best Westerns before, but this was not one of them. What a rip off!
Sorry for the long rant but you should know how horrible this place is! This was the absolute worst! I've never encountered such poor customer service in my life!! I wouldn't stay here for free!!! We had nothing but problems from beginning to end…from check-in to check-out! The staff was rude, dismissive and condescending! The rooms (we stayed in 3 different rooms in four nights) were filthy and most likely not up to code! It took over a half hour to check in because we booked through a third party (for Friday-Monday). Of course this is something they criticized us for. We had called the hotel directly and made a separate reservation for Thursday night – something they couldn't quite understand and just give us a room for the night. They were trying to tell us we owed over $600. Ridiculous! Unfortunately - it got so much worse after that. The first room we stayed in was disgusting! They called us on Friday morning to tell us that we had to move rooms – but they had only smoking rooms available. We went to the front desk and the “manager” again was criticizing us for booking through a third party – that they can't control things that way. I told her the room was filthy – shower was gross – and there was a used coffee pod in the coffee maker (for Lord knows how long) – hair in the shower. I'm glad I brought my own pillow and blanket because there was no way I was sleeping on those sheets! I don't think these things can be blamed on us or a third party!!! On our second night there we were woken up at 11:00 p.m. by the smoke alarm going off – and our heater glowing orange/red. I immediately jumped up and shut it off. We tried to get the alarm to stop (eventually did). We called the front desk and told them what was happening – and we were PUT ON HOLD. Then – we tried calling back four times and kept getting voicemail. I eventually had to go to the front desk - to find the woman just standing there. I explained to her what was happening – and she laughed and said she was looking for a battery. I explained it was not the battery - and told her what happened - and that we've been trying to call her. There was no apology – nothing – she thought it was funny for some reason - and even mentioned it to another employee who was walking through. If we didn't wake up – the whole place could've burnt down – and/or we could've died from carbon monoxide poisoning. I see no humor in that. They just handed me some keys to another room and told me where it was. So at around 11:30 at night we had to take all of our stuff and move it – luckily all of my clothes were still in my suitcase – there was no way I was putting them in the disgusting dresser! There was no apology….no offer of help….no offer of anything!!! All we could smell for the rest of that night was the smoke from the other room….it was in our noses and lungs!!!! The next night - we spent the day out and about – and when we came back to change and go back out – our room keys did not work – so back to the front desk we go….the woman was extremely rude! She said four words "room number" and "last name" - handed us another set of keys and gave me a dirty look - like it was OUR fault. I was expressing our displeasure to her and she just looked at me – again no apology – nothing. Later that night – there was some sort of rodent running around in our room behind the TV stand….mouse…rat? Who knows!? When we went to the lobby to get coffee - we were told that the heating unit was checked out that morning…seriously – the following morning!???? When we thankfully checked out we explained to the “manager” all of the issues we had. She said “Oh – the dust coming out of the heater?” DUST? No – fire! The smoke alarm does not go off when dust comes out of the heater. She said, “Oh that happens all the time!” It's appalling to me that absolutely no one – not even the manager – cared or apologized! We were just dismissed. It's not like we didn't express our displeasure – or the fact we were having major issues with the rooms! They were given many chances to "fix" the numerous situations - and no effort was done to do so! I would highly recommend you never stay here!!! Oh - and the “high speed internet” is also a joke – but that seems like such a minor issue considering all the other things we endured!
I had to pay 3 times the usual amount because it was an Alabama home game weekend. I knew it would cost more. However. The room we stayed in looked like it'd never been vacuumed and the toilet didn't flush properly.
We have stayed here previously as both our daughters attended UA. Hotels are expensive on game day weekends and graduation and we found this hotel to be our best value. Clean, comfortable, good location, outdoor pool, complimentary breakfast, nice amenities and friendly staff. This had been our choice since 2013 for return trips back and forth for move in/out, visiting, game days and graduation. Newly remodeled rooms as well.
Great experience, clean and nice rooms, great staff that were nice and friendly, willing to make my stay a great visit to the area. I would stay again if I need to due to my job! If you need a great place to stay!
The overall exterior and interior are clean; housekeeping is very efficient; front desk personnel are outstanding; and extremely helpful; and the location is fantastic. For Bama football games getting to the stadium is easy. Roll Tide!
We stay here often for football game weekends. We are always pleased with the accommodations here. The staff is very attentive and service is always consistent. We are in Tuscaloosa often on non ballgame weekends and stay here as well even though I have member relationships with other hotel chains in Tuscaloosa.
Older motel/hotel (doors open to the outside) but it's that old 60s/70s sturdy concrete wall hotel you remember traveling with your parents. It HAS been updated though, the beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. What surprised me about this hotel was two things 1) the people (more on that) and 2) quiet, it was really, really, really quiet. First of all I screwed up, lesson here for the rest of you. If you book through a 3rd party it will most likely book you in a smoking room, you'll need to call the desk at the hotel to confirm if you want a non-smoking room when you make your reservation. The people here are extremely nice from the desk staff, manager, morning breakfast folks to the maintenance guys (we had a small issue they corrected with a smile). The breakfast was excellent given what you pay for this place, even had an afternoon happy hour with nice looking snacks. Great location for gameday only a few minute ride to the campus and stadium. All in all, I would definitely book here again (careful to book the correct room this time). Two (very minor complaints), the housekeepers knocked very early saw we were still there and then never returned - it would've been nice to get some fresh towels. Also, the internet was pretty much useless, like open a web page and then go make a sandwich slow, so be prepared to use a hotspot if you want internet access.
If you need a room for game day, this place isn't too bad. They will do you no favors on price, but it's Bama baby! The room was clean at the start. Housekeeping didn't show up for the weekend. Plenty of hot water, beds were comfortable, however the WiFi was meh. It does have a pool. Near all popular restaurants.
We booked this hotel because it was close to the college for Game day. Each staff member I encountered during our weekend stay was very friendly. Our room was clean. Their breakfast was good with many fresh, hot foods, in addition to the regular yogurts & cereals. I'll be looking at booking this hotel again when we travel down for a Bama game.
Booked this through Best Western. Here for parents weekend at Alabama and reserved for two nights. Room was very pricey at $300 a night. Check in was easy. However the room smelled really badly of smoke. Front desk was unable to give us another room as the place was full up. Complaint to the hotel and the corporate booking resulted in a promise to get back to me which is yet to happen. Hot water was barely warm enough for a shower. Ended up cancelling the second night and went to a competitor for a lower price and better room. Breakfast was pretty good.
Motel is decent with a fairly recent interior remodel. Room is clean and staff is friendly.but if you require internet look elsewhere. Yes it's free but not stable for anything other then the occasional browse or email. Anything that requires a stable connection will not work. I got so frustrated with the disconnects that I downloaded a ping tool test app (to test reliability, not speed but stability) and verified what I was seeing. The Ping test sends out a ping every second to a site and measures the response time. Sure enough it would fail anywhere from 10 tries to a best 57 tries. Which means I am only keeping a connection for under a minute. Now for email or browsing you never notice, but try a online game and you see it right away.
Hotel is very close to U of Alabama. Very clean. Quiet. Hotel staff is very friendly. I wasn't thrilled with it being a motel but was quite surprised with the interior. Free breakfast in the morning. Breakfast was ok.
We stay here when we visit our UA student. Rooms are clean, updated, and well-appointed with mini-fridge & microwave. Location on McFarland is convenient to campus and shopping. Most importantly, the staff is excellent and treats you like family. Breakfast is great as well. Excellent value for the money!
The overall appearance of the hotel was just run down. The room had eyebolts in the ceiling which was a little odd. For the quality of the room the price was high. The interstate traffic noise was constant in the room. Only good thing was the proximity to everywhere I needed to be.
This was my 2nd time to stay here. I'll never stay in Tuscaloosa anywhere else. The rooms are so nice and clean. The staff is amazing. Breakfast is great. 24 hour coffee bar in the lobby is always fully stocked. The pool is one of the cleanest I've seen in multiple hotel stays all over the country. This hotel is right off the interstate and less than 10 minutes from the University of Alabama. There is a gas station/quick stop you can walk to to get snacks, beverages, etc....There is also an O'Charleys restaurant you can walk to to get a great meal. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel.
Our team needed an economical place to stay for the state baseball tournament. We found it with Best Western University Inn. The rooms were clean. Robin, Angie, and the other staff were all friendly. The breakfast area had a variety of choices for a hot meal and grab and go. Cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, pancakes, eggs and bacon, juices and a coffee bar as well as other choices. The rooms were cleaned each day. Water pressure was good and hot. The king bed we had was fine. Pillows were great. If you are playing baseball at Bowers Park, it is one red light away from the property. Super close!
Superb hotel! Friendly staff and helpful! Rooms are very nice and comfortable and clean! Only issue is slow WiFi! Nice pool! Hotel clerk was very friendly and helpful! Difficult to find off the freeway, if you don't see the sign you can easily drive past then do a U turn! O Charlie's restaurant is right next door so finding dinner is easy! Great place to stay! Highly recommend this place!
Love Best Western University Inn can't wait to vist service is Excellent cleanliness was on point location was great for dinner and other thing needed breakfast was very good along with the breakfast staff great experience
I was traveling for business and needed a place to stay for the night and I ended up here. While it's right next to the highway and my room was the last in the row, I was surprised that I couldn't really hear the traffic. Room was updated, clean and nice enough. The breakfast Buffett- awesome! They had so much hot and cold food that there was no more counter room! The coffee was around the corner! They had ice water out, which was a nice touch. Good place to stay if you're passing through.
The room was clean when i arrived and furnishings were acceptable. The microwave timer made a noise all night and the next morning there were bugs on the bathroom floor and in the shower. This was my 4th choice of where to stay as the other hotels were booked. I will not stay here again
We stayed hree one night and probably would not stay again. The hotel is average, but the price was right.. We paid about $100. The front desk staff is friendly, but slow. We got checked in and move into our room. There were a number of construction workers in the rooms around us and they had Were grills in the yard and were cooking their dinners. While they did not bother us, this is not what you expect of a hotel. This was more along the lines of a Hotel 6. But, again, not a problem for us. The property is older than most and a throwback to the 70's. Our room had outside access which was fine. Our room was clean and comfortable except for mold in the corners on the tub. Again, no real complaints, but this place is nowhere near the standard for normal BW. Overall, I would have to say it is not managed very well and/p\\or the owner is absentee and not interested in the property. It shows. There is a pretty good restaurant right next door, which is nice. They simply do not pay attention to detail nor do they make the stay something exceptional. It is a good place to spend a night at a reasonable price, but don't expect anything great. Average is average.
We put in a greuling 13 hour travel day. We drug into the lobby at 11:30pm. We were greeted by a friendly front desk staff and our check in was quick. Our room was clean and the ac was working really well. I was surprised by the minimal noise and happy to have a quiet night and morning. The bed was comfortable. The shower had great water pressure and lots of hot water. The hot breakfast was very good with lots of options for everyone's tastes. All of the staff were courteous and helpful. Lots of smiles make for a pleasant stay. I would stay here again if in the area.
From the customer service to the comfortable rooms you couldn't ask for anything any better. The free breakfast on top of a price of the hotel it was awesome. Anything you need is close by. I highly recommend.
The staff at this Best Western is exceptional!! Very professional! We stayed here for my son's graduation. The location was perfect for us since it was close to his home I gave it an average Value because, just like all of the hotels, they triple their nightly rate during graduation. We booked 4 rooms 4 months in advance. Note - if you need to cancel, must cancel one month before the arrival date.
The staff at the front desk and in the breakfast area are exceptionally nice. Breakfast included many hot items and was well stocked and fresh. The hotel is in a good location, close to the highway and restaurants. Our room was quiet and included a fridge and microwave. The room could have been more throroughly cleaned (dust buildup around the baseboards) but it wasn't gross. While we were there, the hotel was undergoing an update of room furniture so during the day, workers were present and furniture lined the walkways but it wasn't disruptive and they did not begin too early during the day or stay into the evening.
This place is not nice and the management is completely unavailable. It's overpriced and they are shafting everyone on game day weekends. Angie Cook was the Manager and has apparently lost her phone. Don't do it.
In a senior moment, I mistakenly reserved a Sunday night instead of the Monday night that I needed. When we arrived on Monday afternoon and I discovered my error, the staff kindly arranged to correct the situation without additional charges. This creates a dilemma for me. I'm grateful for the staff's kindness, but I normally scrutinize reviews when making hotel selections and feel responsible for providing accurate information to other travelers. We will not return to this facility under any circumstances. The room rate was too high for a motel that is outdated (no internal route from room to lobby), for its infrastructural failings (the hot water was actually lukewarm; after a few seconds, the water flow in the sink became a trickle; the heating system required constant readjustment throughout the night), for a slow-as-molasses Internet connection, and for an administration that fails to provide adequate cable service (fuzzy picture) and all broadcast stations (we got FOX but not PBS or CNN).
Clean rooms and pleasant employees. Close to numerous resturants and fast food. Even though it was right off the interstate it was very quiet. After being on the road for 10 hours we found it very relaxing. We like the fact that each room has outdoor access.
Very convenient and quiet; good value and delicious breakfast options, even made to order pancakes. No problems, plenty of parking. Only downside, no elevator. Everything was clean and tidy, and ample.
The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We would stay again without a second thought. It was a good value for the money which is difficult to find so close to a major university.
Right off highway. That's the best I can say. The price was high for what we got. The room was right next to the ice machines and generator, and it was noisy at night. The breakfast was uninspiring. At least, it was clean.
Other than the proximity to the stadium, this hotel was not worth the trip down there. Way over-inflated due to demand for such a filthy, nasty, and outdated hotel! I would not pay $50 a night much less the $265 per night we paid for a game weekend. Next time I will take my $600 elsewhere. On arrival, the room was filthy! The bathroom shower walls were dirty and the floor had not been swept, with hair from prior guests on the floor and in the tub. Gross!
We just stopped for the night, very close to the interstate we needed to be on. Nice and clean rooms. Check in and out very easy and quick. Staff was very nice. Loved the breakfast. We would recommend this hotel.
People working at this hotel make the stay the best. I stay here on several occasions throughout the year on business and it is always a pleasure. Rooms are clean staff is great. I would recommend highly
This is a very nice clean hotel. It is conveniently located near shopping and restaurants just off the highway. Staying here definitely made us feel we were in Crimson tide territory with the elephants in front of the motel.
Checked into a room which smelled so bad no way anyone could have stayed in it. Moldy. Went to front desk to switch room. They obliged and second room didn't smell but just not clean. Never complained about a room before
The rooms were big, clean and comfortable. They offered a full breakfast, and the pool was simple, but a nice place to take a break. It is close to the highway, but very quiet. Close to malls and 5 minutes to campus. Smoking was allowed in the pool area, so you had limited options if you did not want to smell smoke. In addition, we hung our towels and they were still traded out. I wish they only took the towels on the floor. Oh, the staff was very friendly.
Our best advice —Find another hotel !!! Our room smelled so bad we were nauseous and had to check out without staying the night. We came for UOA parents weekend. We lost our full rental amount over $600 for two nights as we booked through trip advisor and it was non- refundable. I signed a document stating I would not smoke in the room upon check-in but later found out it was a smoking room?? The front desk said they could not issue a refund as we booked through Trip-Advisor, I get that but the money paid to trip advisor I am guessing 95% of the booking goes to the hotel. So they could have issued a partial refund? The rooms looks a lot poorer/shabbier than the pictures depict. The carpeting in the room was sticky, there was a hole in the couch and the bed sheets looked very old, the entire room just felt dirty. We could not get past the smell as it made us both very nauseous. The hotel we ended up staying at the receptionist told us they had two other guests check into their hotel that day who also left this Best Western. So a total of 3 guests we know of also hated this hotel so much they checked out without staying, that says it all!! This hotel looks more like a very old roadside Motel you see on the road that you would say to yourself you would never want to stay there, and certainly not at $300+ per night maybe at $89.00 per night. The only thing that looked nice was the lobby. I guess they renovated the lobby and forgot to do all the rooms. This hotel is also located behind a huge gas station right next to the highway probably more of a truck stop motel than anything else. BTW, we ended up staying in a new hotel my guess built in the last 5 years for $349.00. For $50 more with no reservation, it was night and day in comparison! It was very nice and much closer to campus, spotless clean and modern.
we really enjoyed our stay this past weekend. the room was clean and all amenities were provided. breakfast was very good and the staff was friendly. i have 2 simple reasons for not giving a 5 star rating. first and foremost is price. the price for a football weekend is just greedy. my second complaint is, there was a gentleman who chose my room to stand outside of to smoke his cigarsand the smell filled my room. it was disgusting!! that's not the motels fault but for the price i paid the room should have been sealed like a vault. i'll stay in birmingham next year just because it's cheaper.
Nice hotel, nice location, close to interstate, not but a mile or two from college, malls, restaurants and anything you could possibly an to see or do around Tuscaloosa. Quit and safe area, well lit parking although the truck/RV parking would be nice if it were larger.
We were in town for a football game. The Best Western is close to everything you need to enjoy the game. Everyone is very friendly, especially the employee that was in charge of the breakfast. We were able to walk to O'Charley for dinner.
My daughter and I stayed here for the Alabama game. The room was clean and comfortable but the staff was fantastic from check in to checkout. They were welcoming, helpful and very professional. Breakfast was hot and cooked well. We will be staying here again
This is an older hotel and they allow pets. There were LOTS of dogs ... cats around the building ... that's not very appealing to me. Might be fine for you. Room had a very strong deodorizer smell ... my guess is that this is to overcome the smell of a pet of previous guest. It felt damp in the room. I was only on an overnight so it was ok. Bed was comfortable. Wifi worked fine. Staff was super friendly. I've stayed here before with no issues. Room overall was comfortable.
I made reservations for our guys that work out of town. The process for authorizing my credit card was made very simple and secure. All rooms were ready for when our workers arrived and they reported the rooms were very nice.
The room had mold in the bathroom and the rug and furniture were dirty. Although the staff was nice when I went to them they told me they were booked so there was nothing they could do. As opposed to offering to clean the room or try and help me find more suitable accommodations.
We were taking our daughter to school and realized 3 weeks prior we had not booked a room. Found a room at the Best Western- great hotel! Front desk staff were so friendly! Lobby was nice and had been redone. Hotel is a hidden gem - will definitely return!
The grounds were nicely landscaped and checking and out went smoothly. Buffet breakfast was OK. The air conditioning wasn't work quite right and it left the room with a damp feeling on the carpet and furniture. They offered to move us but we only stayed one night. Some furniture was dated and needed cleaning (See pics). TV Reception didn't seem like High Definition in most channels.
Always great to stay here. Third time and have never had a problem. Employees are pleasant and friendly. Plenty of food and choices for breakfast. Room and bed was comfortable and clean. Will always stay when in Tuscaloosa.
Oh my....nothing like advertised or many reviews. We needed a room for two nights during BB student orientation. Went to the room we were given and someone was already in it. We opened the door and saw flip flops on the floor, lights on in the bathroom area and both beds messed up. Went back to the front desk and were told that person was supposed to have checked out (we were checking in after 8:30pm). ?? We went to the second room and the toilet wouldn't flush, the carpeting hadn't been vacuumed, the room smelled and there were lights out over the vanity area. We asked for a refund and got out of there quick!
Hotel has an insane policy where they will not let you check out early or shorten your stay even though it's your own credit card paying for the room without involving a third party if you use a travel agency to make the reservation. So if your room is dirty, has flies, broken toilet seat, sticky phone, etc. they expect you to keep paying for it until you pay your agency fee to have a 3rd person call and do it for you. Even if you are standing at the desk. This was an option for a new place for our company to come to as we just started business with another company in the area, but we will no longer even consider using this hotel again.
We arrived and our request for a quiet room was answered in full. We have stayed here before and didn't have trouble with noise, but on a previous trip in a different hotel, we had the noisy room from--well, you can guess. We weren't taking any chances on this trip. We put in the request, not knowing how that request would be answered and low and behold, we had such a quiet room, we couldn't even hear the kids in the pool! Amazing. Not only that, the room was well appointed, comfortable, and the desk clerks delightful. We won't hesitate to stay here whenever we're in Tuscaloosa!
Pros: Room was clean, beds were comfortable, bed linens had a pleasant, clean, bleached scent. Price was reasonable. Short drive to fast food and Starbucks. Cons: Thin ceiling and walls, so dogs were startled every time our upstairs neighbor took his shoes off or next-door neighbors closed a door. The room was very humid and smelled a bit musty. No vent in the bathroom. AC unit was extremely loud and thrummed like a Diesel engine - at first we thought there was a big truck right outside our door. Bottom line: Did its job but not impressive. Didn't get a great night of sleep.
This is a little older motel but it is exceptionally well kept the staff here is just awesome from check in to check out the food at breakfast is fantastic I just don't have enough good things to say about this place it is definitely worth to stay here even if it's a little out of the way the rooms are extremely clean the beds are comfortable I got a really nice refrigerator with a freezer in it everything works perfectly the pool is kept very well very clean very nice just an awesome place to stay
We always try to stay at Best Western because we are Platinum members and we get treated in a special way by the Best Western Staff. The hotel was very nice and I would definitely recommend staying there. It was in a good location.
I chose this hotel because it was reasonable and close to the University. The room was clean , breakfast was good, and the bed was comfortable. Will definitely choose this location on our next trip down.
Stayed here for a night, extremely clean rooms, great price, and nice breakfast! My only complaint is the eggs were pretty runny and tasted off. Great location near highway seeing as we visited in the midst of a cross country roadtrip.
Just escaped from nearby la Quinta (see review), staff were very accommodating. Heard our tale of woe, let in 2 cats for price of one pet. Met or exceeded all expectations. Clean, well-stocked, comfy, great breakfast buffet, nice pool, easy to drive around to room on first floor. Only complaint: internet was a bit slow. But given the good price and great service, well worth it.
A bit hidden and older style motel but kept very nice. Check in went smoothly. Requested first floor room as had large suitcase and heavy cooler and there were no elevators. Room was near a large pool and nice and clean. Excellent landscaping--best I've seen for some time. Good shower. There was an O'Charleys nearby but I left after no one bothered to seat customers. Other eateries a short drive. Breakfast room neat, clean tables, and well stocked. Check out quick. Would stay here again.
Our A/C was leaking when we got there but they fixed the leak but we had to stay 3 nights in that room with wet carpet. They said they could not move us because they did not have any rooms. They did not care enough to compensate us for our inconvenience. Will never stay again. Very unpleasant. Too many nice hotels in that town to stay in this dump
The service was great ! The room was excellent and very nice and no noise !this room was extremely clean. They were very accommodating! Loved this hotel very much and I am extremely picky as to wear I stay! Highly recommend this hotel !
Every one was so kind and helpful. Breakfast was so good. Room and property was so beautiful. Bed was comfortable. Parking was great. I didn't like having to drive through olcharleys to get to the motel but other than that it was an awesome experience!
I love staying at this hotel! The staff is one of the best that I have ever had the pleasure to encounter during an hotel stay. Everyone is always smiling and friendly. Great price and location. They have a beautiful staff and beautiful hotel!
Clean place, hot breakfast was good, would stay here again if needing a room for a quick stay.We wish the beds were queens and a little newer mattresses, but not a bad nights sleep. Overall good place for the price.
We have stayed in Tuscaloosa several times and so far we have not found a hotel that we have been thrilled with, so we decided to try the Best Western University Inn. We will not be back. Although the room was fine, clean and very nice there were several factors in our decision to not recommend this hotel. The main reason was the internet simply would not work. You would get into the system and then get kicked out. Now my partner is an IT person and we worked and worked to try and get it to work, with no luck. Also when the heat was working it sounded like an airplane engine about ready to take off. So even though there was a very good breakfast and they accept dogs we will keep searching for a good hotel in Tuscaloosa.
They have nice staff, a full continental breakfast. The room was clean. The AC/ heater worked. The beds were comfortable. The floor next to the bathroom was consistently wet, along the wall by the bed. The potty clogged up one night, we had to wait till the next morning because the night clerk could not find a plunger. We stayed 4 days/ 3 nights. $89 A night, it was good for our needs this trip.
was injured by a desk chair, light burned out over sink the entire week, bathroom ceiling coming down and sunday when we left there was no breakfast. the couch had large dirdy spots on it and was filithy
Literally the best smelling roadside hotel room ever. Smelled like Downy. Great grassy area away from road for dogs. Very very clean. Ok beds for a night. Only cons were having exterior doors only in cold weather and bc we were there NYE they had boxed jimmy dean sandwiches and cereal for the breakfast... but hotel bfasts are gross anyway and there's a Starbucks a mile away. Friendly staff! Whimsicle dinosaurs. Good wifi. Pet friendly with $20 fee and our room was under $100. There's an O'Charleys in the parking lot that does to go. Would stay again!
I plan my trips and properties where I stay carefully. My reservation was for a ground floor room but was told they had given all away. My reservation was guaranteed but not respected. This was my first stay in a Best Western property but am completely disappointed with the lack of consideration given. Not good at all!
The prices in T-town fluctuate with the campus games and activities...but Best Western has very competitive prices regardless. The room is clean. Things worked. It felt very secure. Staff is pleasant. There is a nice pool and walking distance to restaurants. Very convenient.
I have stayed here three different times and have been very satisfied each time. The hotel is convenient to most places, fairly quiet considering the location, and has professional and friendly staff.
great. Carpet needs replaced, staff one of the best, very up to date on motel condition and repairs to be done.Location a little hard to enter if not familiar with area. Have stayed here several times and WILL return for all visits to area.
Staff did a great job making you feel welcome. Happy, friendly service. Problem was the floors were disgusting. Always wear shoes or you will regret it. My white socks turned black in no time! The bathroom left something to be desired. I would stay again only it they did a full remodel of this place.
Paid $200 a night on a football weekend which is a little pricey for a modest Best Western. Small room and you will hear your neighbors but the breakfast in the mornign was good and included bacon and eggs
This was an inexpensive nights stay, b/c of the NO football/event weekend, in a clean, safe hotel. Other area hotels were pricier. Clean, crisp white tiled bathroom. Sink and vanity separate from tub/shower. Bedding comfortable. Sheets crisp. Heat worked wonderfully! Breakfast had eggs, bacon, sausage & gravy with all the other sides. Location was easy and there are a gazillion places to eat on down the road with anything you might want.
Great stay for the value. Close to food, shopping, the interstate and the stadium. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Speedy check in and e-mailed statement. Good variety for their breakfast selection both hot and cold meals available.
Rates were very, very inflated but similar to the other hotels in the area. Staff was always available and very accommodating. Rooms were standard and sufficient but older. They serve free Breakfast that had a large variety of items.
Room and bathroom were not clean/beds were uncomfortable. Quoted a $10 pet fee and a king room by phone and email 4-5 hours prior to arrival. Front desk personnel would not honor the pet fee (charged $20) and no king room was available.
Pricing because of football is absurd. If you are going to price gouge then you better deliver everything you say you do. We booked here because it was a brand name and expected a certain level of accommodations. Clogged drain, filthy sink and you want premium pricing?
Stay was during a football weekend with of course crazy crazy inflated room rates. Hotel experience was positive, hotel was quiet, staff was friendly, rooms were clean, breakfast was really good. We would stay again.
Room was clean, but the beds were not comfortable. Other stays at this property were better. Breakfast was pretty good. I love the biscuits. Check in and check out were very easy. The front desk clerks were courteous and friendly.
We have been patronizing this Best Western a few times a year for 3 years since our daughter is a student at the University of Alabama. It's conveniently located with clean, basic rooms. That keeps us coming back. Upon returning to our room in the afternoon, we saw that the bed was not made, trash not picked up, some supplies replenished, others not. I picked up the phone to call the front desk and saw that it was dirty and grimy. There was no dial tone. I walked down to the desk and the clerk told me that some phones are not working, but they're not worried about that because there is going to be a renovation soon and they'll all be fixed. I complained about cleanliness of the room and she said she would report it. I suppose it's inexpensive so I shouldn't worry about it, but I've had such a different experience in the past.
We were in town for a late football game and did not check in until 1:15 am Sunday morning. The hotel is older, but the rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. The front desk young lady was awesome! Arriving late we slept in and missed breakfast so I can't comment on that. Overall it was a great stay and we are trying to book another night during football season at Alabama!!! Roll Tide! Loved all the Crimson Tide decor throughout the hotel and in the rooms! The elephants outside were awesome!!!
Breakfast is ready early; Hot breakfast; Breakfast staff, housekeeping, and maintenance staff are very nice and helpful. Beds and pillows are comfortable but nothing special. Water pressure in shower could have been better. Convenient location
Prices were jacked up because it was family weekend at UA. The room had a broken hair dryer and a broken phone. When I called the front desk they were not even apologetic. Customer service was pretty non existant.
Water leak in room,no housekeeping, no clean towels or toilet paper provided. I identified person with plunger woke me up banging on my door at 900am- I did not call anyone. Drunk adults at pool until 300am. The hotel staff need better management they are not able to run this hotel. Needs updating badly dank dark dingy dirty carpet.Smells.Miserable 3 nights but was only thing available.
Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was professional and helpful!! Had an issue with my TV and they moved me without hesitation to another room. I always enjoy the breakfast, however this one was not good. Hoping it was just a bad day... the experience, aside from that, was great!
We evacuated from hurricane Irma and this was our home for almost a week. We brought our cats so we needed a pet friendly place. Their pricing was very reasonable and they even cut me a few breaks. The room was comfortable and clean with decent water pressure in the shower. We had a nice size refrigerator and microwave which was very helpful since we were there so long. I never went to breakfast because I would sleep in and it ended at 9 am, which in my opinion is ridiculous, but my husband would go and said it was decent with hot options. Not bad for free food. Fresh coffee was good but they would run out so all was left was a coffee machine which had awful coffee. We declined any house keeping service because we were afraid our cats would run out of the run so I can't attest to that aspect but we were always offered fresh towels or anything else we would need. Considering the circumstances I would say it was a decent hotel.
We were chased to Tuscaloosa by Hurricane Irma. We chose this hotel because it was close to the place where our truck was being serviced...yes, on top of a hurricane, our truck crapped out, too!. This hotel is FULL of warm, caring folks! Clean rooms, plenty of towels, pet-friendly (we had to save our puppy from the hurricane, too!), superior breakfast....So So pleased with this place.
I made this reservation for a very special guest staying at this hotel. I asked the staff for assistance ensuring this guest had the most pleasant stay possible and that she should not want for anything. Everything was done to perfection and my guest had a wonderful, pleasant stay. I cannot thank them enough for being so accomodating.
This motel was redone in the past few years, but they really skimped on the toilets. They are smaller than standard size and they easily plug up. The attitude of the desk staff is "come get a plunger and fix it yourself." When called on that, they promised to send someone but never did. The breakfast was substandard for places of this caliber.
We stayed here for UA move in and was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, full breakfast was good and very friendly staff. Nice to be able to be in town and close to campus and shopping. Made move in easier.
I had booked this place online needing a place to stay for my daughter's Univ of Alabama's sorority Bid Day and farewell before returning home to CA. Clean rooms, friendly competent staff, close to freeway but calming air conditioning masks sound, but needs better coffee. Cable channels are limited--No CNN only FoxNews.
Many locations were booked during move in so we had to book here. The pool was nice, rooms were clean, and check in was easy. These had to be the worst pillows. The bed was fine but pillows made sleeping uncomfortable Great location. Close to resturants and Walmart which is needed for move in.
we stayed here one of three nights we had reserved. the rate was jacked up the last two nights so we decided for the level of accommodation this hotel afforded we could do better elsewhere, and we did. so I went to the desk, asked if there would be a penalty and when the woman at the desk said no charge, I stated I would be leaving. I grabbed everything from the room two trips by the front desk, leave the keys and they say I did not check out. I ask for a refund, show proof of other accommodations and the staff refuses to respond. I stopped using this forum to complain but this action merits a complaint. will the management respond now? and the air freshener smell in the room was my main reason for leaving, not everybody cares for that stench. I did catch a bass in Tuscaloosa but it was not easy. may you have tight lines wherever you may travel.
We basically just needed a place to sleep for college move-in and for the price it was just fine. The room, while not fully updated, was clean and well maintained. We were able to park right outside our door and the parking area was well lit so we felt safe coming and going in the evenings. The staff at the front desk for check-in and check-out were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was what you would expect from a BW- basic but it did the trick. Sure, we would have loved to stay closer to the strip but for the price we would certainly choose the BW again.
If you don't have other options during busy weekends, it will do. The staff is friendly and the breakfast and large outdoor pool are a plus. Otherwise, it's very much a motel type experience, right next to the highway. The rooms are so so. It felt a little unsafe. There are other places I would recommend in the Tuscaloosa area.
Very good breakfast served with hot items The room was clean and had a comfortable bed Very good service from the staff The hotel is about 5 mins from University of Alabama and close to multiple restaurants. Also the pool is well maintained
Good place to stay for the money. Convenient if traveling through town on I-20. Large, deep, fun, old school pool with tables to hang out at for some relaxation time at the end of a long day of travel with family. Could walk right next store to convenient store and grab some cold drinks to help me relax by the pool.
room had old furniture and needed updating. painting and plastering of the walls and ceiling were not done professional. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. cook was very friendly and helpful. checking clerk was very pleasant and really took care of us during our stay. TV remote was broken, but was able to use it holding the batteries to make contact. bathroom could use a good general cleaning in the corners and behind the door. I would stay as the very last resort. good location eateries and etc. Rate was reasonable.
On par with value / quality of any best western I've stayed at. Nothing super fancy but reliable and comfortable. I stay at this hotel on business every week, out of my 50+ nights here I've never had any issues.
I do not recall the woman's name that ran the breakfast buffet, but she was a super excellent cook and person. Always smiling and accomodating. The check in and out was flawless, Applied a discount for AAA and or AARP
I have been using this hotel for about five or six years. I drop in here about once every nine or 10 months. I had noticed it was getting in a little bit poorer condition with each visit. This visit however was the worst. The room was dirty. It had obviously not been thoroughly cleaned in several weeks. There were large cobwebs in two or three corners of the room. And the carpets were dirty as if they have not been vacuumed. I complained, and was told there were no other rooms available. I will not be staying here again.
Normally I do not travel with my pets but this was a last minute trip. The staff where great at check in and check out. Personable and Friendly, very helpful and informative. There was a small pet fee but that was to be expected. My two small dogs had a ball. Spacious room to stroll out back. Breakfast each day was OutStanding. I travel for business and am required to stay at the big chain "H" and do not get such a breakfast. Thank You BW University inn Tuscaloosa
I am on the road for weeks at a time for my Job. This hotel had a good bed and decent price. but it is dated and in need of some care. No Elevators. The free breakfast was not bad and the pool was well maintained.
As I stepped into the lobby I was pleasantly greeted with a hearty smile and a genuine interest in assisting me with accommodations. My room was super clean, quiet and comfortably furnished with light switches and electric sockets conveniently placed. Breakfast included real scrambled eggs, patty sausage, waffles, sweet bread, fruit, coffee, apple and orange juice dispensers. I travel as a profession and am very pleased with my recent stay at this establishment, I'll definitely be returning to Best Western, Thank You.
This hotel looked very good from the outside and our room was very comfortable. It is located close to the highway and close to the half way point on our trip from Pennsylvania to Texas. Our room was clean and quiet and made for a restful nights sleep. As for the breakfast, we had to leave before the breakfast opened and cannot comment on it. Over all a very nice place to stop and rest, I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Very comfortable stay at the Best Western University Inn, Tuscaloosa. Clean and quiet room, comfortable bed, good shower. Nice pool, although I didn't use it. Helpful staff. Wish the area had more restaurant choices within walking distance. Would stay there again.
All I can say is gross bathroom had hair everywhere and spots on the blankets and the clerk at the front kept eyeing my hands cause I was to slow getting my license out of my purse and I have cerebral palsy. I will never stay here again. I want my money back.
I stayed here 3-5 nights a week for about 2 months while my brother was in the hospital at DCH. It was such a stressful time & everyone from the ladies at the desk to housekeeping made me feel welcomed & at ease. Rooms were always super clean & everything was in working order. The parking lot & outdoor spaces were always neat as a pin. When traveling alone I wouldn't normally stay somewhere without inside corridors but I always felt perfectly safe here.
The rooms are no frills and not the cleanest. There was a lot of dust build up along the headboards, tops of lamp shades and baseboards. The bathroom was small and poorly lit. We had a burned out bulb in the room that wasn't changed the first day even though I unscrewed it and left it out. I had to leave a note requesting it be changed and then it was taken care of. All in all, it's an ok alternative, considering how high the prices are during peak times (student move in, Family weekend, etc.). I picked it basically because it is conveniently located to the university and it was somewhat reasonably priced. I would stay again because I at least know what to expect.
Had a issue with housekeeper being in my room using my restroom as we enetered room from checking in. Housekeeper left out the room without cleaning the bathroom or apologies. Front desk did move my room but that was it
We came thru on our way back to Texas from North Carolina. Very comfortable mattresses and clean. Nice decorative environment. Enjoyable hot breakfast. We will definitely be back on our next trip to NC.
The hotel was very nice, the employees were very helpful and nice. I would recommend any one to stay here. The Wi-Fi was not wanting to work that great, but I didn't use it that much. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast was very good. The employees there were very nice and friendly and asked if you needed anything. When I travel to Alabama I will stay at this hotel over another hotel, I really enjoyed my stay and slept very good.
Nice rooms - not too crowded when we went, since college classes are out darling town. Comfy bed, sheets & hot shower. Had trouble with their internet hopefully they'll get it up and running. Call the hotel first to see if it's working if it's important to you. We are at a pub past the university for lunch. See photos. Nice breakfast they even served almond milk for cereal, coffee or over canned peaches! What a treat! Ask for AAA or Sr discount.
As we headed to our daughter's college graduation, we discovered this little gem. It was extremely clean, the breakfast food looked and tasted good, and the employees were very hospitable. We would highly recommend it.
I stayed here many times while visiting my granddaughter in college. The latest stay was for a wedding. We stayed 2 nights. It was a little noisier than usual due to a softball team staying, but that was ok. The rooms are good, plenty of room, comfortable beds, very good breakfast. The staff is helpful with any questions.
This place is ok for what it is. I arrived an hour early and they let me check in with no problem...room was clean but very limited TV channels, DIRECT TV would make it a lot better...there's plenty of shopping and places to eat close by....very close to the interstate which is convenient
This is my go-to hotel in Tuscaloosa. Look past the location (by the highway and behind some restaurants) because this hotel is a gem! I stay several times of year to visit my kid at UA. The rooms are current, comfortable, and very clean. The staff is super helpful and the breakfast is really good. It is easy to get to campus and shopping from this hotel. It is a great value. The Big elephants out front are fun too!
Once again another great stay at the Best Western in Tuscaloosa. Friendly staff, easy check in the room was clean and comfortable. My wife and i prefer this hotel if its available when we come to T-Town. Good continental breakfast nice large area to eat. The Best Western here hasnt ever disappointed us and we have stayed several times.
We arrived early and the staff went above and beyond to get us in a room. The ladies at the counter we super nice and we received great customer service. The rooms were clean and in great condition. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. Hot breakfast was also provided by the hotel, which we took advantage of. We will definitely stay again at this hotel.
We stayed here while attending an athletic event on campus. The hotel design with the dated exterior room entrances is not a great first impression. However, this was a surprisingly good hotel stay. The receptionist was helpful and provided a positive first impression during check-in. The interior room was extremely clean with modern upgrades. Breakfast was plentiful with ample options and kind service staff. Overall good option while visit Tuscaloosa.
The set up reminds you of the travel motels of the past with the outside entrances and the courtyard pool. However the rooms and the lobby are updated and very comfortable. I was a good place to stay while taking care of activities at the University
From the quality breakfast to the clean rooms, this BW was B+/A- all the way. After a long day on the road, it was nice to walk next door to a Charly's for drink/dinner. Complimentary national and local papers was a plus along with its location near the highway but those wishing to stay near the university, downtown or brew pubs should look for an option nearer to the university/the name of the inn a misnomer.
The room was very clean we had a great stay thank you so much to the friendly staff members excellent location we felt very safe if ever I was in the area again I would use again and very pet friendly
Love this Hotel. The Hotel is always very clean, landscaped nicely and the staff very accommodating. We have stayed here many times during football season and etc. Breakfast is very good, love the cookies at night.
This is a wonderful hotel. Just had one room that had the clogged sink, otherwise it is our home away from home in Tuscaloosa! We stay here every time we have come to Tuscaloosa to see our daughter who goes to University of Alabama! Very pet friendly!
It is an OK, older property. It has a good breakfast. One of the best. The room has an outside entrance so is not as safe as a hotel with all rooms with inside entrances. It seemed expensive for what it was (older property, less convenient layout of the room, etc.). But all the Tuscaloosa hotels seemed over priced to me at the time I was trying to find one. The staff was fine. There were no problems. The place was clean. There was parking that was fairly convenient to our room even though we were pulling a U-haul trailer. It was all OK.
The hotel was a very nice place to stay for the money. Met all of our expectations! Had a problem with the heat pump, called the front desk and immediately the lady at the front desk and a maintenance man came. After checking we were moved to another room. Couldn't ask for better service!
The room was good value for the price. The breakfast was excellent!!!! The best hotel breakfast we have ever had. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. The staff was very nice. The hotel was located in a safe area.
we had a wonderful stay at this Best Western. Everyone was friendly. Our room smelled clean when we walked in. it was large and the bed was very comfortable. The free breakfast was so good. Many choices. The sweet ladies did such a good job preparing the food and making everything look inviting. The hotel is in a convenient location. We would definitely stay here again.
Not attentive to requests, stated we were required to check out on Saturday when our reservation was made through Sunday. Staff overlooked important details of billing. When confronted about $415 charge on a points stay staff said "the charge should fall off in 3-5 business days, sorry"
My son and I stayed here when we came down for a University of Alabama game. Hotel rooms are dated but clean. Pool was nice just wish weather was a bit warmer. My son loved the breakfast they provided each morning. I wish it was easier to get to. With not being from around the area the street hotel is located on is very busy and hard to get to without making a million circles. Not too far from University or expressway.
This hotel is borderline run-down in appearance and I wouldn't select it again if I have other better options. The beds were a bit uncomfortable and some of the lights in our room didn't operate properly.
I made a "free cancelation" reservation on hotels.com and was a bit miffed that without warning my card was immediately charged the full amount. But thats on hotels.com or maybe on me for not paying close enough attention to "fine print". I arrived at 9pm and was greeted by a nice lady at the front desk. My room had a fridge and a microwave. The bed was OK. I'm not a fan of the tiny pillows, but that seems to be the thing at most hotels these days... the heat barely worked and at 50°F at night on October 28 that room was way too cold for me. Luckily, there were two beds, so once I put together the two super-thin summer blankets I was mostly OK. There is a full free breakfast for a couple of hours in the morning. So if you don't want to sleep in, you can have "scambled eggs", bacon, sausages, gravy, biscuits, pancakes, serial, "coffee" and juice.
I found out by accident tonight that I was double charged - BOTH by the hotel (well it's really a motel) and Hotels.com. They BOTH charged me for the same reservation. Upon calling the hotel,Tracy gave me the the unacceptable reason of "the check-in clerk was new". I'm sorry, this is just not good enough for me - what if I hadn't checked my credit card statement? Would they have just swallowed my $$$? Unfortunately the rest of my experience wasn't much better either... my room lacked any type of sound proofing and could hear every whisper from neighbouring room... my stay was a disaster and I can only hope I'll never return here again.
Exceeded expectations. I usually stay at the Capstone on campus but it was booked up. While this hotel does not compare to the Capstone it offered nice clean rooms, a very good hot breakfast, and close proximity to the UofA and reasonable rates.
Overall great place to stay, comfortable and affordable. stayed here the last two trips to Tuscaloosa. Convenient to everything!!! I would recommend this motel to anyone traveling to this area, for a safe, comfortable, and affordable place to stay. Exercise room. pool, and motorcycle friendly, with a washing station for your bike.
Our stay was very pleasant. They are PET Friendly. The room was very clean and modern. The staff was friendly, professional, and the price was very reasonable. The free breakfast was better than most of the more expensive facilities.
College football allows too excessive of a mark-up for Value hotels. This hotel is very good but not at $250 dollars a night- yet everybody wants price controls on Big Pharma- then lets spread the wealth- all business need to conform. Pleasant personal and nice decor but needs to price accordingly!
An older property but well maintained. Staff were very nice. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was good, about what you'd expect at comparable hotel. At check in for a football weekend they had a good amount of snacks and water out in the lobby at check in with printed game weekend info and clear plastic bags that could be used to take into the stadium, a very nice touch. O'Charley's is the parking lot for a meal if desired, we just stopped by for the bar one night. Parking was no issue. We most likely will return.
Not worth the money...pay a little more and get far better. The breakfast wasn't and the room was not what I expected in quality nor overall performance. Breakfast is not bags of half eaten cereal left on a counter day after day.
Rooms are big and clean, but kinda dark. Breakfast is good and has a good variety. Towels are changed out daily and the Hotel pool is kinda nice Nothing to freak out about but nothing to complain about either.
We went for the Alabama game. We came to this hotel after the game & were pleased with the cleanliness of the room. We got the extra towels & courtesy we expected. Our only problem was a broken toilet that couldn't be fixed because there was no one that could. Otherwise, it would have been a perfect stay!
We had two rooms and stayed over Labor Day weekend for a family reunion. The rooms were clean, staff was very nice and the breakfast was better than the breakfast we paid for on our first day in Alabama. We ate at Waysider and definitely would not recommend. If you don't eat at the hotel, definitely don't eat there. We did have other family stay and the one that stayed in room 150 experienced the wet carpet issue. We didn't so I am speaking on my behalf but the wet carpet issues mentioned in previous reviews does exist. From my experience, I would definitely stay with Best Western when looking for a place to stay in Tuscaloosa, AL. Thank you!
We have done a great deal of traveling this summer and this Best Western was one of the very best! The staff was great and the restaurant breakfast was wonderful. We had a very nice stay. Wished we could stay for more than one night.
Love this hotel was clean had great pool and very friendly desk agent close to everything we needed for our stay the rooms was very clean and breakfast definitely hit spot for family. Also love the elephants out front.
Yes, the breakfast is very good, but the room was dank, dark, and damp, and there were unusual smells emanating from the sink as well as the comforter. There is no way on earth that this is the fifth best hotel in Tuscaloosa. Stay away if you can stand to drop an extra twenty bucks!
Found this place on the list . Thought I was not going to be happy but it was really nice. It was clean and comfortable . The beds were nice the A/C was working great . The shower was hot . The pool was clean and warm . They had a nice fitness center . They also put out a great Breakfast . Breakfast was far better then other places I have been . The staff was very friendly and helpful . Prices were well priced .
Our room was wet, not damp, WET. Feet get wet from walking on carpet and smelled horribly from mildew. Complained to front desk and we were told 'there is nothing wrong with your room'. Bathroom filthy, many stains in strange places (lampshades). Stay away!
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the air conditioning kept the room cool! The breakfast choices were healthy and ample, the coffee was tasty, and the staff was accommodating. We jumped into the pool after a busy day at the school and it was refreshing!!
Reasonable cost, friendly helpful staff, great hot breakfast includes eggs, sausage, bacon, and many other options. Nice outdoor pool. Located right off of 20 when coming into Tuscaloosa. Rooms are clean but a little overly humid giving a musty feel. I stayed for 5 nights bringing my daughter to the University of Alabama. Her days were full preparing for the Sorority Rush. I didn't spend much time in the room. I often used the lobby/breakfast area to work on the computer. Wifi was great throughout the hotel. I choose this hotel since it was one of the few that had vacancies. It's not as nice as some of the newer places but it's not a bad value and the Breakfast is a real plus.
Not what I expected at all. Very small rooms. Two stories no elevators. That made it fun carrying luggage and computer up. Clean but worn. Would not stay again. The only highlight was the staff very friendly. Definitely good for the college students but not family. The only reason we stayed was due to no other rooms available in town due to move in weekend.
Room was clean, however beds are not comfortable. Major construction on McFarland makes entry into the hotel driveway impossible if you are heading east on McFarland. Breakfast quality was poor. Walk a block up to the Dunkin Donuts if you would like some real coffee instead of coffee colored water. "Fitness room" consisted of 1 treadmill, one bike, broken elliptical and a weight machine from 1972. Do your research before staying at this hotel.
Great place to stay. Comfortable and convenient. Has all the necessary items including microwave and frig. Easy parking near rooms. Small bathrooms. Love seat in king rooms. Good breakfast. Helpful check staff at check in.
I was greeted by an exceptionally friendly and caring staff. Room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, despite being a very busy weekend.Only downside was the wifi was a little spotty here and there. Check out was a breeze. Would definitely stay here again.
The room was very comfortable and clean and the staff was so friendly. I would stay here all the time. We had a lot of people in our party and the staff did a great job to take care of all of our needs.
Nice property. Located right behind O'Charley, across the street from Pop-eys chicken. and not that far from shopping and the Roll Tide campus. And, it is right at the i20/59 interstate hwy. But, no waffle maker for breakfast.
Not our first time to stay here. Family reunion in South Carolina so it's our half way stop from Texas to South Carolina and then on our return trip home we stay as well. Enjoy the rooms, staff, swimming pool and great breakfast. Won't be disappointed. Also love the O Charley's family restaurant across the parking lot from hotel.
This hotel is right off the highway and a great stop for people who are traveling. Our room was clean and quiet, the a/c worked well, and breakfast was solid. Their breakfast spread includes a lot of options, which is great when you're traveling with family. Overall a good stay.
We stopped here on a cross country trip. We booked through Priceline so we got about 30% lower price than the lowest rack rate. Very easy or locate off I-20. Upon arrival, were greeted by a friendly staff and given bed choice. Clean, comfortable room and bed. Good warm breakfast. Would stay again.
This is my second time at this particular hotel and each time has been clean and comfortable. This time I was even on the side facing the interstate and did not hear any road noise. The breakfast was good with a nice selection of options. I would consider staying here again.
This hotel is clean, rooms on the opposite side of the highway are quiet, lots of parking spaces, good breakfast, the pool's water is very clear, the staff is there for you for any need. There is no elevator but plenty of stairs around the hotel.
* Enjoyed hot breakfast, good number of items. They unfortunately pick up food prior to breakfast close, so make sure you don't wait until last 15-30 mins * Room has musty odor and was not vacuumed during my stay. Disappointed in cleanliness of room * Good pool
This was an awesome stay and it was a last minute stay and the customer service was unbelievable. Right off the interstate and into the bed, it was just that easy. Please consider your stay at this Name brand hotel, you won't regret it.
Stay at this hotel. Park well. Sleep well. Eat nice accommodating breakfast. It is not nice to tell me that I must report more than necessary to get the point across. I will not in the future take my time for you requirements. Take what i say or don't ask.
This hotel was awesome. Friendly customer service, clean, comfortable room, pet friendly, and full complementary breakfast. Breakfast included bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, as well as coffee, juices, cereal, fruits, yogurt, pancakes, and pastries.
This was a great hotel. Rooms were clean. There was an awesome, hot breakfast each morning. It included eggs, pancakes, sausage and gravy, bacon and yogurts and ceral, etc. The pool was well maintained. The staff was super nice! My daughter is going to college here, I am sure we will be staying again soon!!
TA rated this 4/34 hotels; I'd hate to see the lower ranked ones! The desk clerk was uninformed & loutish. He didn't know (or care about) the difference between a pet & service animal. Though we had reserved & paid for a King room on TA, he insisted we had to have a pet room, which was 2 full sized beds. He also wanted to charge us a pet fee; but, backed off when I told him it was not ADA compliant. The room was VERY dated & musty, with gross carpeting. There was some vintage, greasy dust clinging to the air vent, & the escutcheon on the bath faucet spun when you turned the knob, revealing a large hole. The outside was nicely landscaped; too bad they didn't spend a little more on the interior. Cable channels were limited; no CNN or BRAVO. (Maybe they aren't popular in Bama.). The breakfast buffet was good & offered lots of choices. The coffee was weak & not great (again, Alabama). I thought the price was high ($115 with tax) for this area & the condition. It was conveniently located, right off I-20, Shell station next door & across the street, & O'Charley's in the parking lot.
Last night of vacation. Had no plans to stay in this city but it turned out fine. the hotel was clean and roomy. Complete with a couch. Plenty if pillows which we like. The price was higher than most of the hotels we stayed at on this vacation. Could recommend to others.
This Best Western is a comfortable clean and well maintained hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. I especially liked the thick fluffy bath towels. There is a free hot breakfast which was very good. Pancakes as well as sausage, bacon, eggs and a variety of pastries. The only negative is, it is somewhat difficult to get to off the interstate. From McFarland Blvd. you have to go through an O'Charlies restaurant parking lot to get to the hotel.
Really nice hotel. They have very comfortable beds and it was easy access from I-20. Lots of breakfast choices. They even have the curved shower rods so the curtain doesn't cling to you while you shower!
This hotel is better than average. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the staff is friendly and professional, and the price is okay. The breakfast is nothing to brag about. It is the same, cookie-cutter type of meal that you will find at every hotel in this class category. But, overall, this is a good choice when on the road and needing a comfy and relatively safe place to lay your head.
Hotel was a great place to stay while visiting the area. Rooms were clean and well maintained. The pool was also very nice and clean. Didn't feel ripped off by the price. I will definitely stay again next time I am in Tuscaloosa.
Hotel is a little older, but well maintained. Room was spacious and clean. Standout here is the staff. Very friendly and helpful and made you feel they were actually happy to welcome you to the hotel.
The breakfast was really good, unique look and feel compared to other chain motels. Fair price and good sized Alabama themed clean room. Would stay again and recommend to friend. Pool looked inviting, took pictures of elephants
This is a awesome place to stay. The beds sleep good. Had a good breakfast bar. The swimming pool was clean The room was clean. It had plenty towels. Look like a nice exercising room. Clean Bathroom. Pool was warm. Nice lawn chairs. The shrub and lawn was cut. Landscape was nice. There was 3 stone Elephants in the landscape at the front door.
This is one of the very few places I have stayed where the website pictures accurately reflect the reality of the facility; right up to the well manicured lawn and the immaculately trimmed shrubbery to the spotlessly clean, modern, and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was a bit spartan, but I don't think the breakfast room gets quite the workout that I've seen in other places. Frankly, I'm happy to trade the limited menu (there were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and biscuits & gravy) for the additional elbow room. The breakfast room was sparkling clean and being carefully maintained. The bed was comfortable and I appreciate the size of the large flat screened TV. The only drawback I found was that the desk table lamp only had a single outlet and, these days, with many of us traveling with multiple devices (cell phones tablets, laptops, etc.) most of us need more than one outlet. I found this a bit disconcerting, but there are other outlets available (i.e., near the sink) that could be used. Or management might want to look into lamps (including those on the night stands) with additional outlets. As a somewhat seasoned traveler, I carry an AC outlet splitter with me. More troubling than that, however, was the short in the wiring (Room 224) that caused the light (and the power) to go out sporadically. But, this is a minor concern compared to all that is right with this place. I had the chance to stay at a different Best Western 3 1/2 hours earlier on my drive along I-20. But, I'm glad I made the extra effort to come here. I would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it to you.
I stayed here while on business in Tuscaloosa. The rooms are clean with plenty of towels. AC was cold. I didn't hear any noise after going to my room at night, Con: The TV cable seemed to have limited channels. I am in T town three nights a week, but the front desk said there were no special business rates, so I am staying somewhere else. Overall this is a nice property, but it just seemed overpriced.
When we arrived at the hotel is asked if we could have a bottom floor and be closest to a place to take our dog out to potty. The staff was very eager to please. The arrangements were perfect. We were able to walk our dog and enjoy the awesome magnolia trees. They smelled really good. The room was very comfortable and cool. The mini fridge had a freezer that kept our water very cold. The breakfast was great and had a lot to choose from. Great room for a great price. We will be back.
Wow they really Roll with the Crimson Tide. Very welcoming, friendly and knew where to direct you when asked where a place was. Had Elephants statues outside that were huge. Clean fresh rooms. Had internet in near office . Breakfast was filling. Just before we headed out. I didn't notice the sign until we were leaving. Pool was in demand as the girls softball teams were there. If you are looking for a place to stay. Here is the place. Not far from eating or shopping.
Very clean & pleasant...pet friendly, which is rare in this town... I travel often alone with my Large dog, and they only charge a small fee..well lit parking lot ,Close to interstate ,and restaurants.
Hotel was adequate for our needs. Price was great considering it was graduation weekend . Housekeeping was terrible. Beds were made and fresh towels were provided 4 out of the 5 days. The shower/sink/toilet weren't cleaned day to day, nor were the floors. (There were toilet paper fragments and soap on the floor that stayed put the entire stay....that's how I know floor wasn't mopped). We had to grab tissue/soap off the cart. We were gone the entire day so didn't bother reporting, but management might want to see who cleaned room 158 from 5/5-10
Very nice hotel. Good sized room with helpful front desk people. Very nice breakfast in the morning. I thought it might be noisy, but it wasn't. Rooms were clean and bright. No smoky smell. Enjoyed the restaurant within walking distance.
Excellent location on McFarland and near 20. Great staff and everything clean and working. No hassles and at the right price points for a visit to U of Alabama. I have stayed at another place down the road when this hotel was booked and my God what a difference. This is not a luxury hotel, but if you just want a place to have a good night's sleep while you take care of matters at the university, this was in the right place at the right price.
This is a very nice hotel for the money. Clean rooms, friendly staff and a great breakfast. It is conveniently located to food and the highway. We did not use the pool however it has one and it looked very nice.
Will stay again when next in Tuscaloosa. Nice rooms, clean, good food and friendly staff. No complaints and well worth a $10.00 tip for housekeeping. Great food next door at O' Charlie's. Every once in a while the State of Alabama will surprise you.
I chose this hotel because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor. The Good: 1) The room was clean and didn't have any odor. 2) The front desk guy gave me a reduced rate from what I had paid on TripAdvisor; $30 cheaper. 3) The breakfast was really good. The Bad: 1) There was a dead moth on one bed. 2) There was a pretty big roach on the bathroom floor. 3) The room we had was feet away from I-20 so it was hard to stay asleep with all of the traffic noise.
I was in town to do some research at the University of Alabama. The motel is behind a chain restaurant and it is kind of interesting to access the property. I got there at rush hour and McFarland Blvd is a bear at rush hour, though that has nothing to do with the BW. There is a good sign that you can see clearly from the road to guide you in. The room I was given faced inside. I asked for something quiet and it was perfect. I locked my key in the room and the woman at the desk was great about getting me another. Good place and the rate is about average for Tuscaloosa.
Love this hotel great location and would stay there more, but prices go way up during football season Roll Tide.We are season ticket holders and used to stay here every home game, but can't afford price during season:(
This is a great place to spend the night when traveling through Alabama. Excellent value and friendly, helpful staff. I have never had a bad room here and the breakfast is always fresh with lots of hot items to choose from, even fruit and yogurt.
The Best Western Park Plaza in Tuscaloosa was fine. Staff was nice and the room was clean. But this is a motor inn in every sense. And it's located right off of a busy 6 lane road, so if your room faces the street it might be noisy. I am a bit surprised it is so highly ranked on TripAdvisor, but I suppose that speaks to the lack of fancier hotels in the Tuscaloosa area.
Staff was friendly, room was clean, a/c was cold and breakfast was fantastic. Our room was an excellent deal for the price. We will definitely be using this hotel again when traveling for other BAMA games.
Location was great and front check in Lady was so sweet. I had asked for a non smoking room and the room sure wasn't. Within 10 minutes my family was taking Benadryl and miserable. Couldn't change because the hotel was booked solid. We were so tired we just went to sleep. The room was clean and would stay again but only if I had a non smoking room.
Not bad but price near doubled from mom-game weekend. Front desk nice and helpful. Rooms with two doubles was clean and updated so nice. Free wifi. Beds good. Breakfast area in lovely is small for size of total motel, but food selection was pancakes, eggs, bacon , cereals, fruits , yogurts, juices and coffee.
Stayed here for a quick stop with a friend. The room was spotless and the bathroom was clean as well. It seems as though we came during some type of event so the hotel was packed with little to no parking. But I could not hear my neighbors or the highway which was right outside our door.
Stayed here numerous times going to NC. Pet friendly, clean rooms, great location. Passed up a hotel that was much cheaper on same road because I am so comfortable with this facility from previous trips. Easy access to interstate and restaurants. Great breakfast.
I'm so glad I went by the other reviews here and not by my old perception of Best Western. This is a great place to stay! All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The king non-smoking room was updated and very nice - clean and comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding and I wasn't expecting that. In addition, the lady who keeps the breakfast area stocked deserves a huge pat on the back. Can you tell we loved it? Will definitely stay here again.
Our handicapped-access room was spacious, very clean, with a comfortable bed. Our room had a mini-fridge and a microwave. The breakfast buffet had a good Southern breakfast: pancakes, biscuits, sausage gravy, bacon, eggs, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereals (hot and cold), and a coffee bar. The lady who was responsible for the breakfast was great, making sure we had plenty to eat, even though it was past breakfast time. The location is off I-20, easy off and easy on. We'll stay here again next time we head eastward from Texas!
We stayed in the king size bed non smoking room. The room was clean and fragrant. We were surprised to find a refrigerator and microwave in the room. The service at the front desk was very good and friendly. We had a nice stay.
The hotel was in the perfect location for a stop-over on my trip and it was clean and comfortable, the people at the front desk who checked me in and out were friendly. However, the hotel was not easy to get to, you have to turn into the parking lot for a restaurant, and the hotel itself seemed a little dated. The breakfast was fine, but not set up so you could take anything to go (the yogurts were in a pump rather than their own containers) which was unfortunate because I was in a hurry to get going and didn't have time to sit and eat.
This place is in need of a deep cleaning at the least. Our bathroom had black mold on the ceiling and walls. There was also black and red mold on the shower walls. All that they would need for that is a little bleach, just spray, let sit and rinse. Simple. There were also cobwebs hanging in many spots on the bedroom's textured ceiling. Perhaps a vacuum with attachment could take care of that? Seems like management is pretty lax otherwise these issues would not exist. Breakfast was awful. The eggs didn't even taste like eggs. Biscuits were dry and tasteless (this is the south and they make the best anywhere). There was no fresh fruit unless you count the canned peaches they labeled as fresh. Also, instead of yogurt cups, they had a container with a pump on it to dispense the yogurt. The place needs an extensive remodel or they need to shut it down. Not cheap either. We will never stay there again.
Great location, and everything is excellent. Will hopefully stay many times in the future as we travel back and forth to Florida to visit with our daughter and old friends in Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beach.
This the the 2nd time I have stayed here. It is close off the interstate and it is very clean. The desk clerk is always friendly and they have a good free breakfast in the lobby. I highly recommend this place.
If you want a comfy room at a good value this is your room. They decorated the room with pictures of the college champion Crimson Tide football stadium and other pictures. The beds are great, the sink is separate from the shower and the shower is good. We actually stayed here twice, coming and going across the US. We'll be keeping this hotel on our list.
I would stay at this Best Western for 3-4 days when I would take my daughter back to Univ. of Alabama or visit there. The last two times I have had mixed experiences. The rooms are ok and comfortable. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. My last visit, Kimi was one of the friendliest & kindest front desk receptionist I have ever met in all of my travels. She helped me gather a lot of information about the area around Tuscaloosa and made my stay very welcoming. Kimi is definitely the kind of person that would always make me want to come back and stay here. But then there is a very nasty and undermining front desk receptionist, Christina that seems to always be in a foul mood. The last two times I stayed here she was nasty & moody. My last visit in January 2016, she went out of her way to make sure that I wouldn't get the advertised Best Western points that I should get for the length of my stay there. I showed her my emails from Best Western regarding the points I should receive and the flyer on their counter from Best Western showing the points. When I asked to speak with a manager, she told me there wasn't one. She even cancelled my reservations every day that I made so that I wouldn't get the price that I was quoted (I was staying and paying on a day to day basis, but she would cancel my reservation and make me pay a different price.) Christina is the kind of person that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and she would be the reason that I would never go back here. If I was the owner of this place I would never allow someone like Christina to be at the front desk. Keep Kimi front and center, she is lovely.
Staff friendly. NONE of the ice machines worked. Some pet owners travel with unhousebroken pets, and the Pet designated rooms smell of unhousebroken pets. Pet rooms would be better with washable laminate flooring rather than carpet. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast was the usual motel fare, nicely presented and fresh.
After reading the reviews I thought we would take a chance on this location. I was so glad we did. The price, service and location were completely amazing. Such fantastic service from the staff. We will stay here again. THANK YOU!!
I really don't like writing poor reviews, but this place did not live up to experiences that I read from others online, so here's a detailed review of our two night stay last week. First the good: Location is great for those visiting the University of Alabama. Also very close to tons of shops and restaurants. There is a wonderful place right at the parking lot entrance called O'Charley's which my family enjoyed several times. Easy to walk to. Room was clean and there was plenty of parking. Check in staff was super friendly young girl. Also mid-day had a friendly woman direct me to the computers to print my boarding pass. Breakfast was decent for this level of hotel. Eggs, ham (wish they had bacon instead), biscuits with gravy was a nice southern touch, juices and coffee. Also had a cool pancake machine. Pancakes themselves were pretty poor...gummy/sticky. But, I do appreciate them trying to offer more than bagels and cereal. Staff was good about making sure all the food was replenished. So, now the problems. Noticed when we got in that it came with 2 title bottles of conditioner, no shampoo. I always carry my own, but haven't had this happen before. I used the toilet and noticed it didn't stop running. This was to be the case through out our stay. In order for the tank to re-fill I had to remove the tank cover and manually adjust the plunger each time. It looked like the mechanism had been replaced with a sort of zip-tie line, that didn't work consistently. My folks were staying in a different room, their toilet was stopped up and they were given a plunger and told to fix it themselves. When that didn't work, (three of us tried) they were moved to a different room, but that toilet also had flushing trouble. I would suggest they do a overall check of their toilets. 3 rooms with trouble is a bit ridiculous. It was quite cool at night, mid-30's so we needed some heat. Problem was the heater was very loud and kept going on and off. Also, no matter if I set it to 73 or 65, it pumped the heat at the same super hot level, the temperature only seemed to effect how often it turned on. I am used to sleeping with a fan on, so I don't mind some noise, but this was so much that I ultimately tried to just turn it off and figured I'd do fine with just another heavy blanket on the bed. It was then I discovered there were no other blankets! The beds were made with two sheets around a very thin cotton blanket, nothing else. I like the double sheet with blanket in between, but this was no where close to what we needed for a cooler night. After a rough night, we were woken at 5:00AM by what literally sounded like a train going by. It was either the cleaning crew or a very large family constantly going back and forth. I heard folks screaming about "no wash cloths in this room!". This went on for about 20 minutes. I later did a little test with my son pulling our small carryon with just a few items in it past our room, with the door closed. Sure enough, this could easily be heard inside our room. The floor outside wasn't smooth paint, so I think this was part of the the problem. This problem could likely be greatly alleviated by just installing some indoor/outdoor carpeting. The noise woke us and the folks below us. We left our room at 7:15am and returned at 6:00pm to find that our room had not been cleaned. This too has never happened to us. I went to the front desk to ask for clean towels and told her no one had cleaned our room. She checked the housekeeping log and said they had put a question mark by our room. No idea why. We had not put out the do not disturb sign because I knew we needed some of our towels replaced. Next, I tried to call my folks in a different room, but I always got a fast busy signal. Turns out they tried to call me and they never got through either. We made sure we were following the instructions on the phone. When my dad checked out he was told they had disconnected all the phones. They assume everyone uses cells now. I do use cells for outside calls, but I think when having multiple people staying in a motel/hotel your first choice is still to just dial their room. And why would you leave the phones in the room if they were disconnected? Isn't this a safety hazard too? I'm thinking of older folks who may still be more comfortable using a traditional phone. Again, something I have NEVER seen done in any motel/hotel. When writing reviews I try to be careful to write the review with the hotel's star rating in mind. I am not comparing this hotel to a five star hotel, I'm thinking about my experiences in other 3 star hotels and it just had too many problems. I would not return.
We stayed one night at the Best Western Park Plaza Motor Inn. It was clean and comfortable, which are the 2 main things that I look for in a hotel. The sink was outside of the bathroom, which is very convenient when several people are trying to get ready. The staff is very friendly, and the breakfast had plenty of options, both hot and cold. It was convenient to the highway and to area restaurants. My only criticism is the lack of electrical outlets near the bed, which in this day and age, is necessary. We would definitely stay again.
Nice hotel; friendly staff; excellent housekeeping staff; however, the mattresses in my RM 145 were so hard that I could not sleep and ended up having to seek medical treatment; after check-out there was a $20 charge on my AMEX w/o my card being present and w/o my authorization.
i am a trucker. they have enough room for about 8 trucks. i have been staying here for about 15+ years when through the area. this hotel is kept up very well the rooms are clean large tvs and everything works. very good restaurant out front. i have stayed there many times and will stay there again. keep up the good work. you should offer the truckers a little better rate. thnx
Other recent reviews confirmed. Classic open breezeway motor lodge completely remodeled. Bed, bath and linens, all clean and fresh. Roads and traffic on all sides but noise not a problem on second floor room. Fellow guests were present, fully booked, but well behaved. Staff friendly and efficient, you can tell they are proud of their hotel
I would definitely stay here again. Very clean and felt safe. It would help though if somewhere on the site that you list the information about needing to have a credit card authorization form if you don't have the credit card the reservation was made in. Thank you.
My mother, grandmother, and I traveled 10 hours from home to attend my brothers graduation where he got his PhD is physics (yay!!). This hotel is literally 1 turn off the interstate and then yelling distance away from the exit! Located in the same parking lot at O'Charleys and so close to everything you need!! VERY clean room and WONDERFUL service. I am as picky as they come. I ripped off the sheet and checked the mattresses, under every surface and even tops of the door frames. CLEAN! Also my grandmother is handicapped and they put us in a room as close to the car as possible. EASY access. PERFECT STAY!!
Clean rooms, lobby, breakfast area, walkways and grounds. The buildings, pool and grounds are well maintained. The location is convenient to Tuscaloosa, the University and main routes of Alabama. However; the reason we come back is due to the welcoming and accommodating staff. They make the rating of this hotel 'excellent' .
Nice hotel with good staff. Breakfast is good but the eggs need to be real not powered. Good business desk for computer access for personal needs. Overall a good bang for the buck except on Football weekends and then demand exceeds supply and cost is over the top!
We travel through Tuscaloosa quite a bit to visit family, and we have stayed here several times. It is one of the best hotels I've stayed in. It is clean, and the breakfast is great. Also, the beds are very good. If you need a good nights rest, this is the best.
Stopped in Tuscaloosa on trip from VA to TX. Hotel had convenient access, was clean with comfortable bed and good linens. For stopping on a road trip was great. Room was a little weathered and the air freshener which appeared to be in the HVAC was over powering. Breakfast was good and staff was friendly. Restaurants are close by and we were able to park by our lower level door which was convenient.
We travel to Tuscaloosa several times a semester since our daughter is a student at the University of Alabama. It is clean, friendly, convenient and a good value. The staff remembers us and always asks us how our daughter is. Love me some southern hospitality!
Very convenient to find, easy access to highways and places to go. We dined at the famous Dreamland BBQ, just a short drive away. When we walked into our room, it smelled fresh, very clean and everything was in great working order. Good selection at free breakfast, scrambled eggs, biscuits, cereal, sausage, sausage gravy, coffee. The juice bar wasn't working properly, but that would probably be a minor adjustment. It is also convenient to some shopping areas.
Was able to have a nice stay and was suggested to some great restaurants close to the hotel. When we arrived that evening it was a rainy and miserable night, and the girl at the front desk was quick to set her bible aside and was very efficient in getting us checked in and had local suggestions for dinner.
Was pleasantly surprised at how nice this place was. Super friendly staff, very clean and quiet. The breakfast was yummy and lots to choose from. Wish the beds were bigger and they were slightly tilted...felt like my head was down hill. Other than the beds, no complaints whatsoever!
Great place to stay! We stayed with our high school football team because they had play-offs close by. Those boys thoroughly enjoyed their stay, especially breakfast. It was there first play-off trip in several years. As parents, we truly appreciated the staff making them feel so special. Also it was nice to know they were staying in a safe place. Such a friendly staff, which I wouldn't expect anything less in Tuscaloosa home of the TIDE!
Facility is almost totally upgraded - new exterior paint & lights, fresh interior paint & new carpet, and flat screen TVs (not in HD). Breakfast is above-average, and the staff is extremely hospitable. Props to Anna at the front desk for her friendliness and efficiency in meeting our needs before and during our stay. Wi-Fi signal was very strong. My only suggestion would be an upgrade to pillows and shower heads (my pet peeve).
Loved the front desk staff. They were very accommodating and welcoming. We tapped into their knowledge of local restaurants and were pleased with everything. Hotels aren't the places where you want to find surprises on a trip and this was perfect. All was as it should be!
Was a little worried so close to expressway, but I was happy with our visit. Clean, seemingly secure, and well taken care of. The staff was friendly and were happy to accommodate us. Good breakfast in the mornings kept the kids happy. Located so exploration of the city is convenient. Close to campus. This is very near where tornado went through a couple of years ago, but no evidence from what we could tell. Many shops and restaurants nearby. A little tricky accessing if driving south on McFarland.
Overall excellent experience for game day weekend. I have stayed in many hotels in T-town and this was the best by far. VERY clean Friendly staff. Convenient drive up to your door. it was very quiet. Beds were a little hard but most people prefer that I am sure.
Property is decent, staff is nice, room smelled of musty old cigarettes. Right next to the highway but didnt impact us. The smell if the room was so bad I felt neasua and our clothes smelled. If your a smoker or enjoy that odor go for it if not MOVE ON.
Because they were so kind to me and my family, because I do travel with people who are handicapped, when we stayed there the first time, we made it our business to only use this hotel. They have never treated me nor my family disrespectfully and they do try very hard to make sure we are comfortable. P. S. the breakfast is great.
A great family friendly hotel! Nine family members stayed at this hotel over the weekend to attend an AL/TN football game. Hotel staff was extremely courteous. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Breakfast was hot and tasty. Hotel was within 10 minutes to UofA stadium. Highly recommend this hotel.
We stayed here for a conference at U of Alabama. It was perfect, room was just right, quiet place, good breakfast, nice staff, and close to I-20 and U of A. No complaints with this stop. And we walked over to the restaurant nearby for dinner, so nice to not have to get out and drive more.
I was pleasantly surprised. We opened the door and the room smelled so clean!! I couldn't get over how nice and fresh the room felt! The breakfast the next morning was also nice: eggs, biscuits, grits, oatmeal, pancakes, fruits and yogurt. We will definitely visit again when in the area.
This hotel is too expensive for me.They also demand i night deposit when you make a reservation. This year this hotel started demanding 1 night deposit when you make a reservation.I feel this is wrong.I have been staying at this hotel for at least 10 years. They have jacked up their football season rates so high, I can no longer afford to stay regularly there during football season.
Situated just off the highway exit for MacFarland, it is on your immediate right heading toward Tusclaoosa. Don't let the location close to the highway fool you--it is ideal for any visit to TTown especially when Bama has a home football game. Helpful staff, big breakfast menu and very clean rooms.
After a day of touring and driving, it was good to have a place to stay. the room was clean the beds were comfy. check in and out went smooth, parking lot was clean and plenty of parking spaces. over all I would stay there again
Enjoyed a king size bed with a jacuzzi for price of a queen size bed. Excellent abrakfasat of eggs, sausage, biscuits and pancakes. Staff was friendly and gave tips on a great place to have dinner and gave me a 10% off coupon for the restaurant. Will definitely return here.
Great staff, good breakfast. Would stay here again. One problem was the lavatory faucets. Just dribbled out. I removed the strainer and it was filled with white sand. Removed sand and pressure was restored. Clerk offered to move me to another room. Was unpacked and fixing it myself seemed the quickest.
I stay here because it's clean, affordable, and right off the interstate. There's a nice pool if you arrive at the right time of year. Lots of fast food in the area and one large sit-down restaurant next door.
This is one of the very best. Easy access from highway. Very courteous staff. Clean, well appointed rooms. Bed is the next best to home. Beautiful grounds. Paking is very convenient and close to room. Beautiful signs help locate motel.
In for a gameday weekend - meaning lots of hotels/motels charge ridiculous rates for rooms. Best Western was still reasonably priced for the accommodations. 1st floor room in front of the pool. Room was clean upon arrival. Bed bed was was comfortable. People were outside at the pool but any noise did not effect us. Breakfast was really decent with really good biscuits and gravy and plenty of hot sauce (Yeah - I love my hot sauce with my B&G). Had nice conversation with table next to us as everyone was excited for gameday. Towel service is important - and we arrived after a long 2nd day to fresh towels and a clean room. Always happy when that happens (and it doesn't always happen - so I mention it). The shower/toilet was too small. But that is nitpicking. The TV was old and in poor shape and small. That is not nitpicking because I like to watch tv to unwind after a long day. It's easy to miss the entrance off of McFarland. I don't understand why they don't make it more visible. Missed it twice. The staff was great - had a conversation with Kym and Katrina(? I think was her name). Fun and friendly. It's apparent they enjoy their jobs. Overall very nice and would easily book again.
Recently stayed at this Best Western Sept. 22-25. Accommodations were modest, but clean and functional. Breakfast was a nice touch. Swimming pool was well maintained and staff friendly. Value was great. Booked through Trip Advisor.
Just an average hotel. Staff was very nice. We discovered an opened container of milk in our mini frig when we arrived. It was very late in the day when our room got cleaned and they didn't leave any new toiletries. Friends who were staying in another room had their A/C stop working in the middle of the night.
