Je m’inscris Sadly not the best experience and we've stayed at a few Best Westerns. Very much a motel, and Hotel and the team seemed very tired. Initially we'd booked a dog friendly room but later when we'd had to change the date we specified no dog, which the lady said made it easier for her to accommodate the date change. the room we had was a nice size but probably a dog friendly room as dog was still expected, and was overpoweringly smelly from a plug in “air freshener” The shower was un usable the first morning as the control unit fell off the wall when trying to turn it, it was later just pushed back on by the maintainence man who “ was visiting today “ and we could use it the following day but only by pushing it towards the wall whilst in use to stop it coming off again! The bed and pillows were sadly rock hard, matress 6” shorter than the chunky wooden bed frame leaving sharp corners very exposed, duvet 18” narrower than the duvet cover meaning it barely covered the bed side to side. Smoke alarm over the bed with bright white light that flashed 3-4 times a minute. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was adequate with well presented hot options and basic cereal / cold choices. We stayed midweek, and The hotel overall was very quiet despite apparently being fully booked so we had no disturbance overnight and despite being on a main road there was no traffic noise.
I think this place is a ‘work in progress.' Judging by the posters on entrance, there is a significant maintenance programme. We had room 106. There was a definite ‘damp smell' when I entered the room and behind the chair some of the wall paper had literally started to come off the wall. I tried to open a window and to my amazement the latch on the window just came off in my hands. Radiators came on at 5am so I the room was extremely hot. My son's room (104) was nicer and no damp smell, but his bath cabinet has literally fallen off. Breakfast was fine in a nice room and the staff seem genuinely pleasant. I don't leave poor reviews very often but this is just by way of feedback.
If you like warm hotels, this ones for you. Literally an oven, so hot. Décor has been improved but overall it's a tired old hotel that lacks any character. Staff were friendly enough, but you can tell they didn't want to be there. Room wise, large double was just that, Curtains falling off rails, heating permanently on full, windows that were jammed shut, paint peeling off the ceiling. Food - atrocious at best. The breakfast was buffet style, would have been ok if EVERYTHING wasn't overcooked. Even the orange juice... Coffee machine only dealt in super strong tasting weak coffee. a contractors haven, but certainly no more
Stayed here for one night and it was shocking. I got there late so couldn't change my hotel or else I would see photos. At checking they asked for credit card after you've paid upfront and when you get to your room, yeah not the best. Hotel is full of contractors so stay clear if you want something decent.
The room was so big. We had an executive room which was amazing. Very comfortable. Only one slight problem, no heating as was a bit cold. Would definitely rebook again. It makes a good base if visiting places in Suffolk as we do. We would recommend this hotel.
From the first day a mention at the reception theat the TV remote control is not working, I was asure theat the technician will come to inspect. At the last two days I was switching on and of TV from the socket, with not the smallest chance to control it. One day I came to the room and the bathroom floor was full of water. I report to the reception. They clean the flor , they put a buchet with a towel inside, and I was assured that someone will come to fix it, as is leaking from the roof. Next day the house keeping clean the room, but they left the bucket in the middle of the bathroom with the dirty water inside. I was speechless. And few more " good" bites, like.....buy a drink at the bar but you need to go and pay by the reception, staff looking bored. I will not recommend.
We stayed three nights and found the staff attentive, caring and helpful. The food, both breakfast and evening meal, was well prepared and presented and was plentiful and tasty. The room was spacious, clean and well serviced. We couldn't fault it. Excellent stay. Can't wait to return.
The bedrooms are clean and large with seating provided . The service and food in the restaurant was of a very high standard, and we had very attentive staff. I would recommend this Best Western hotel with confidence based on my four night stay.
We were a group of 20 people who stayed earlier this week . We were greeted warml, welcomed with tea and coffee. The hotel may look plain from the outside but the rooms are sapcious, very comfortable, and very well equipped. The staff, amongst whom were 3 generations of the one family, Lynn, her daughter and grandaughter, were truly excellent. The food was delicious, the menu much varied with breakfast a high standard each day. We would return.
When arriving at the hotel we were instructed by a passing member of staff that we had to check-in using the automatic check-in facility. Unfortunately, the automatic check-in facility was not functioning properly as it was unable to produce the key cards for the room. We then had to wait for a member of staff to carry out a manual check-in. Having been delayed with the check-in, we were surprised to find in the very spacious room, what appeared to be a cigarette burn in the window seat. This was not a good first impression as it immediately indicated that someone has probably been smoking in the room and with the two of us being non-smokers it presented an uncomfortable feeling. There were notices in the hotel stating that the hotel had a 100% no-smoking policy within the hotel. On the positive side the room was of a good size and the staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was very good and on the Saturday and Sunday breakfast was cooked to order.
Lovely clean crisp white bedding .comfortable bed ,with tea coffee making facilities in room .Nice hot water for shower and bath . Nothing negative at all staff friendly ,food good . Very quiet area . nice bar area as well. Also car parking is available at hotel.
The hotel is very dated with no air con in the rooms and can barely open the windows. It was stifling during the night. The bed was also very small. On the Saturday night we were kept awake by rowdy guests in a nearby room. We complained twice but nothing seemed to happen. The next morning we were told that there was nothing staff could do as they were wedding guests. Well so were we and we weren't making a racket at 2am. No offer of anything from the hotel to make up for the lack of sleep.
We stayed here for a wedding that we attended locally and found the hotel good value for money and would stay here again. The breakfast was nice and plenty of variety although when we asked for a particular time slot we was told they were fully booked and when we went the dining room was half empty . We found that a little strangex
The beds were so uncomfortable it felt like we were laying on cardboard, we hardly slept. The toilet was blocked and the rooms were not clean (lots of bugs and insects). The gym was out of use due to the building having a leak and the carpark was small and filled up quickly. I would not recommend this hotel.
I was concerned about some of the reviews I read before arriving but I was not unhappy with my room or the service. Its true the windows dont open enough to climb out of them but you can open them sufficiently for ventilation. Some reviews said the rooms are too but mine was fine, I didnt need the fan provided. Ample teas and coffees provided. The shower was a bit dated, it had seen better days but overall I was satisfied. in places the hotel IS a bit dated and as facilities were closed I would not agree its 4 star. The staff were nice. Bar prices were high. If you want to find minor things to moan about in your room you will be able to but if you want perfection then go to a very expensive hotel. Breakfast was adequate but a bit limited. The hot food was cooked to perfection. Only 2 kinds of cereal available but I enjoyed breakfast for my 3 night stay it was sufficient. I had no trouble parking. Be aware the hotel does not have a lift so the stair climb is hard for the infirm. Room TV was very nice, limited channels. Bed was very comfortable, curtains really blacked out the room and it was really quiet even though room opposite was being refurbished. I was not unhappy with my stay - would have like a fridge in my room. Take negative reviews with a pich of salt, you cant please everbody all the time
Complete mess up on the extended booking. Even though all confirmed as sorted well before we arrived.and note on system We originally booked 2 nights and several days before added an extra night. Making sure they knew we are already staying so we don't get rooms swapped May as well not bothered telling them as all has to be sorted on night and only lucky we managed to stay in same room. Even after that receiving call next morning asking when are we leaving the hotel. I said we are here for another two days. They thought we are just Kate booking out. So a mess on several levels of internal communication
Stayed at this Best Western hotel for one night in Aug 2024 after a wedding close by. Our room was very quiet with an extremely comfy bed and a fan to keep the room cool. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast the next day with views of the garden. Overall great value for money, would definitely recommend to others!
This is the first time back since before 2020. Renovations are being done but there was absolutely no impact whilst we were there. Clean with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was good. Table service on the Saturday and Buffett on the Sunday. Plenty of choice and very tasty. The only negative was on Saturday when the waitress was taking a large table order and the chef was calling for plates to be delivered.
Normally I write very positive reviews. However, this hotel is the worst we have stayed in. It should be shut until fully refurbished or shut permanently! You can hear floorboards creaking when people are moving around in the room above. Pool and spa facilities closed, no cold water in bathroom, broken tap, window would not open in bedroom, shabby and many corners cut on workmanship - poor value for money. I would definitely not return to this hotel. I complained to the manager who was not particularly bothered. We booked through booking.com The manager of the hotel said it stated in the small print that the pool and spa are shut for refurbishment. So why advertise a picture of it? Very misleading. Couldn't comment on the meals as stopped severing food at 9pm on a Friday and Saturday night (concerning) and wouldn't take an order any later than 845pm. Also ordered a hot chocolate from the bar at 1030pm but the machine takes 30 minutes to warm up and the bar shuts at 11pm so was told I couldn't order one. It was like being on a school trip not a hotel getaway that we had paid for. Feel free not to pay any attention to this review but as you drive in and see the state of the car park you will realise what I mean.
excellant service - staff very helpfull evan when asking for a cup of hot water . room very clean and tidy and asked for a fan was recieved in 2 mins , due to a warm day . thankyou staff x breakfast was fantastic with a great selection including fruit
We booked four rooms for after a wedding nearby. We arrived late and though there is 24/7 front desk there was no late bar. They were happy for us to sit and chat in a lobby area. The hotel is due a refurb but rooms were clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff. We didn't order breakfast as we had to ferry drivers back for car collections etc. Very cheap and suited our purposes.
Food very good. Great stay. They were short of staff but apart from delay at one meal, all staff really helpful and friendly. Only criticism was room hoovering. Edges by skirting board hadn't been attended too. Will definitely stay again and hopefully pool and spa will be open.
Received a very warm reception when walked in to see if a room was available, the lady was very kind and there was no problem booking for the night, the room had everything required and the bathroom was clean, breakfast was exceptional and overall for the price the hotel exceeded expectation so much so stayed a second night
Although the hotel is rather tired, it was in a good location, decent staff, and fair price. Some of the carpets need a deep clean, and windows, the garden is nothing to disk of, but could be fab with a little tlc. Breakfast was ok, hot, tasty and plenty of it. Evening meal was a little lack lustre.
So many issues…..if you read nothing else know that this hotel would be suitable for people seeking refuge who have fled appalling circumstances, but aside from that I would suggest staying well clear. Main issues- - Refund promised in writing was delayed, resulting in the credit card company (thank goodness we paid using that protection) refunded us and took upon the query themselves as the hotel just kept telling us it takes X amount of days which then took a month and still nothing! - Awful staff- basically all of them have given up all hope themselves and it is shown with their attitude and sense of work ethic .They seem to be waiting for the place to close down. - Advertised as having a pool but was told it wasn't in use when we arrived. This was the whole reason we booked this hotel as wanted to use pool facilities. We were told that it said on the booking website. The receptionist showed us where it said it on the website which was hidden in the smallest of small print on a page seperate from the main hotel page actually used to tell you about the facilities! - Check in was abysmal. There is a screen to self check in. Two receptionists were disinterested and rude (also gave the same disrespect to two other guests needing help/advice while we were there) - Room had a layer of dust everywhere and had clearly not been used in a very long time - lights were off around the main areas of the hotel and the bar closed, looked like a closed derelict hotel in places (3pm on a Saturday in June!) - when we requested the refund due to the absolute state of the place the receptionist said yes but didn't come forward with any evidence. We asked for evidence to which she then rang the boss (nobody was onsite at all in terms of staff/management- why!) She reluctantly sent us an email (which was used as evidence with credit card company) - Stairwells full of old furniture/wood/paint pots - on arrival was met with windows of the hotel rammed full of old bedding etc pushed into the window Sadly the whole situation was so poor and I couldn't wait to leave which meant I failed to take photos, just one of the windows outside the hotel. Overall disgusting, inadequate and is a far cry from the glory days when they used to host events and be an option for local people to hold proms/weddings in the events room!
Was not advised on booking that the hotel is having refurb, which it needs as looking very tired and unkept. And pool and spa area was closed. Having stayed there before I have to say it has gone downhill a lot. Hopefully once the refurb is complete it should be back to a Best Western Standard.
Was undergoing a refurb so could use the spa or gym. Would have been lovely to try them, but not being able to didn't take away from the hotel. Is there a completion date? As I would return to see it. Breakfast was a buffet style, all cooked nicely and good choices. Rooms were clean, had coffee facilities and free biscuits which was nice. Nice and bright inside, and extremely quiet. The hotel is a short 10 minute walk from copdock village which has a lovely village pub. My only suggestion would be the outside needs a little work as it doesn't reflect how nice the hotel actually is.
I was the beneficiary of a Best Western deal around £40.00 per night but I made a mistake on my booking and had to pay for another night. The Hotel insisted that I paid over £ 80.00 for one night and according to the staff, there was nothing they could do about it, not a free dinner or breakfast to sweeten the pill. Suffice it to say I'm staying somewhere else this week. Generally the Hotel is OK, but you have to do the booking on a screen, there is a receptionist, but if if I am booking into a hotel I expect the staff to do the work, not me. There is a renovation programe in progress but the pool is not ready, and the Gym is only just coming on stream, the gardens and areas outside could do with some care and attention, and the overall appearance of the public rooms and stairways is shabby. It's not very welcoming but it is cheap. The bar is only half open.
Great stay. Better than expecting and staff really good. Friendly and good parking is free. You need a car to get about to the nice places on the doors step They do need to get the spa up and running again as no need to wait for all the rooms to be done up before they do the spa up. It's just shut
Staff very polite and friendly. Room clean but looking tired and need of updating. Mattress not particularly comfortable and another well known chain is much better Breakfast was adequate and once again staff were welcoming and helpful.
This is a terrible hotel. There was no atmosphere, it was run down, the bed linen had not changed after previous guests, cold cooked breakfast buffet. It is a really tied hotel. The photos on the website where taken along time ago and bare no resemblance to reality. This is not even a three star hotel, let alone the four star it claims to be.
Comfortable, spacious, bright, clean room with plenty of tea/coffee and biscuits as part of the room facilities. Excellent service by the staff at dinner time. Food tasted great for each of the 2 nights I was there. Hotel was easy to find, signposted on nearby roads, the setting is pretty with a spacious garden. Other communal areas could do with a lick of paint. There is a gym on site, which, I was not able to take advantage of on this occasion.
Just checking in and told there is no restaurant available, it's a big disappointment 😕. Reception says breakfast will be available lol. Room is lovely thankgoodness. Looks run down from outside but nice inside, pleasant staff although no lift she offered to help with bags.
Nice friendly staff and very helpful from the beginning of the stay until leaving. Nice tidy rooms and good room service. The room was nice and tidy and very clean. I stayed for 2 nights and on the second day the room was tidy with fresh bedding and towels. All the items were topped up. Excellent could ask for anything better. I enjoyed the stay.
The hotel from the outside isn't very appealing and dated. The hotel is currently undergoing a makeover with the gym and spa closed. Rooms are priced cheaply and rooms large and modern for the price. I would visit again in the future upon completion of all Works
Awful. When turning into the driveway it actually appeared to be closed. No cars in the car park. The outside looked very drab and neglected. We did go in to see if anyone was around. There were refurbishment works going on which we were not informed of. It did not look like there were any other guests. I did ask the receptionist if the bar was open and she said yes but they were putting in a new ceiling!! Didn't venture in. I don't think it should be open to the public until the refurb is finished. We did go to our room to see what it was like. It was nice enough, clean and newly decorated. However in the end we decided not to stay. We weren't sure whether we would have had breakfast in the morning due to no one being around apart from the receptionist who was very friendly. Personally though I would not stay here until all the works have been carried out.
The hotel was better than I expected when you see Tripadvisor with an average of 3.5. I had a superior room which was clean and comfortable and large compared with other hotel chains that I have used in the area. Staff at the hotel were friendly and the breakfast was good and sets you up for the day.
My girlfriend and I stayed for one night. Although hotel has just been reopened and they are still working on the Gym & Spa which I'm sure will be up and running soon, it was a great value hotel! Staff were fantastic and friendly, Lisa at the front desk especially. The rooms were spacious and beds were comfy. We got a lot of value for the price we paid and only 10minute drive from Ipswich town centre and also correct side of town if travelling on the A12 back to london like we were.
Hotel sold out and my booking and many others too as you can see from the reviews. Sold out to the Government for overseas visitors. Lets hope when this mess is sorted out no-one ever uses this hotel again
Booked a one night stay months in advance only to be phoned up with a month to go to tell me booking has been cancelled leading to a load of wedding guests needing a last minute booking. The whole experience made worse by a half hearted apology from a disinterested employee who and some dubious reason about a hotel refurbishment. Other guests were given different reasons so a bunch of lies were thrown in to add insult to I jury. No offer of compensation was made, not even a discount voucher.
Booked the hotel a few months back, due to go on Thursday 17th February 2021 today if the Saturday 12th February, this hotel knows it is closed for bookings until the 4th April due to a government contract, I only new my reservation was cancelled by looking on here that raised my suspicions and by contacting the hotel myself to see what was going on ! I had booked through buy a gift. I think this is very poor not to be contacted about my booking which the clearly they know of the circumstances that the hotel is closed, least they can have the decency to let people know!
Stayed at this hotel for a wedding. Our rooms had been booked for nearly two years, as the first wedding date was postponed due to Covid. On arrival we were told that we did not have a booking on the system, (we knew we did). Several other wedding party guests arrived and were told the same. Eventually the manageress came to the reception and gave us a story that our booking was for the previous night so we did not have a room, and none were available. This was a total lie. They had either double booked the rooms or had made a mistake on the date, but it was not our mistake. There was no apology or any admission of fault on their part, and she couldn't care less. Bearing in mind that the rooms were part of the wedding event which they were hosting on the evening, how could they say the rooms were booked for the previous night? Sometime later another guest turned up who was not with the wedding party and he was told the same fairy story that he had also booked the previous night and didn't have a room. The father of the bride went to great lengths to sort out accommodation for several couples by moving single people from double rooms and asking them to share to free up rooms. This was the last thing he needed when he should have been enjoying his daughter's wedding day. We didn't let it spoil our evening though, and the celebration was lovely. The bar and catering staff were great, and the young man on the bar, who was often on his own worked hard all-night serving guests, great stuff. It's just a pity the manageress is so poor and dishonest.
Had multiple bookings for Feb and March for both spa and hotel which was booked in November last year. Both bookings for birthday surprises, one of these is for an 18th Birthday present next week. Received a call to advise all cancelled has taken on bulk contract. Left me high and dry with 4 days to sort an alternative present, clearly no regard or respect for customers already booked. Given all the reviews seen cannot believe they only knew to inform me today. Absolutely would not be rebooking and clearly do not know the meaning of Treating Customers Fairly!!
Booked an afternoon tea & a spa afternoon to find out it had been cancelled as the hotel have taken on a bigger contract. Was left a voice message stating I could receive a refund or rebook but after April. I found this very unprofessional & would not recommend booking anything at this establishment.
Booked a 2 night spa break, the spa was closed when we first got there. 2nd day we spent a bit of time in the spa in the morning but explored the area. We were then intending on spending all the next day relaxing in the spa before coming home. When we came back from exploring to book our pool slots for the next day we were told spa, gym and pool would all be closed. Hotel staff loudly boasted to us about how they had taken a whole hotel booking just 3 days ago which meant they were very busy as had to cancel lots of other people's bookings at very short notice to accomodate the large booking. They seemed to forget we had paid for a spa break ourselves so weren't happy to find a booking that came in a few days ago meant the spa wasn't actually available to us. Initially reception just shrugged when we spoke to them and gave us their HO number to call and deal with it ourselves. Thankfully the area manager was there later so we were able to speak to him to get a partial refund. I was appalled at their attitude to cancelling guests at short notice. Torn bedsheets, stain on the chair and the TV remote covered in dust despite Best Western's "enhanced cleaning" for covid didn't fill us with confidence either. Overall really not a great experience. The restaurant food and waiting staff were all lovely at least.
Booked 5 night stay on the 19th December for 3rd to 8th January. Received a call from the hotel this afternoon (31st Dec) to say they have cancelled my booking as a large contractor has booked the whole hotel. What a way to treat clients!!!!
For the price and what you get for your money its a no brainer, don't expect the hilton because your not paying that kind of money, the spa is really nice can't fault anything there the rooms had cobwebs and stuff but overall really impressed
My stay was terrible, from my room, too the bar, to the food. Room was disgusting, dust and mould everywhere! Food was very dry and bland, just tasteless! The manager Kate needs to think of a new line of work! Clearly has no clue how to run a hotel, just so unprofessional for a manager! Staff were all in need of training, most of them didn't have the answers to the questions I asked them! I would advise everyone to stay away from this hotel, many better options around Ipswich and Suffolk!!
Bedrooms not up to standard. Dated, uncomfortable beds and room cleanliness poor particularly in the bathroom. Small television and limited service. Excellent Breakfast and Good Evening Menu. Service Staff were very helpful. Wine glasses were not clean. Overall our experience on this last occasion was disappointing and we are unlikely to stay again.
My room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner-disco in the Suffolk Suite, delicious dinner, prompt service from the waiting staff and the bar staff, I was very pleasantly surprised to see Boddington's bitter at the bar, too. Breakfast was delicious although the waiting staff ought to have replenished the food for self service quicker, it rapidly ran out. But I paid a very reasonable price to stay here and I would definitely return.
It was a while that I have been there but I came and it was as if I have never left. Their professional approach is outstanding . The moment I came in I felt good. And had a good talk a better breakfast and a good sleep after work thanks for let me feel special every time I come back
Absolutely filthy room, food not cooked properly, bar understocked, hardly any staff. The bed was really hatd and uncomfortable, we lifted the the sheets before we left, (i seriously wish i hadn't) the bed was heavily stained, the fleece, half mattress protector was coverd in pubic hairs of all colours, the extra blanket and pillows supplied smelt like stale sweat, no pillow protectors, semen stains up the bed valance, what looled like blood splattered up the curtains. Broken chair, mouldy bathroom, the toilet flush was broken, the walls and Ceilings were covered in cracks and stains. The room looked nothing like the pictures on the website. This room should never of been let out , when i informed the receptionist, she wouldn't offer is another room. I just feel disgusted i stayed there. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Was contacted by best Western hotel and sold a voucher for a spa day with my wife with a night's stay in a superior room with a 3 course meal and bottle of wine! We turned up very excited as had travelled from Eastbourne and was looking forward to a relaxing weekend only to find out that the company had NOT booked us a room and was already full up! As you could imagine the SHOCK we felt and the anger! The supervisor was unhelpful in this matter and told us to leave the hotel or she would ring the police because we were angry! We did not get our spa day, a refund was not given and after 3 attempts and 3 days to contact the general manager who has not bothered to reply!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!
Lovely room, good breakfast and a good 3 course meal.pool is small but adequate with sauna and steam room,we purchased the stay on Wowcher for eighty pounds and it was great value and would definatley stay again
I always stay at the Ipswich Hotel, the staff are always very helpful. Their spa facilities are great to unwind after a long day. Their rooms are so comfortable and I love their breakfast. A great hotel to stay.
Stayed for1 night for an event and have to say the room was fabulous,,, huge room, huge comfy bed, never had any problems with springs or being nosiy when turning over and huge bathroom, fluffy robes, and towels. We had a swim and sauna which was lovely and breakfast was good. The actual building isn't 5 star then again the prices aren't either...There is no lift
We bought vouchers when the hotels were just opening after Covid in support of getting them back on their feet. The stay was booked for the 30th November 2021 and a couple of weeks before I booked the spa treatments for 4 of us, whilst making the spa aware that 2 guests who were elderly did not want to have those particular treatments. I asked if one guest could have a back and shoulder massage instead and was told this needed to be referred to the hotel manager for authorisation. My partner knows the Manager and sent a text alerting her to who the guest in question was and highlighted their support of the hotel having spent a great deal of money with them pre Covid. She then replied with confirmation that this would be referred to the Area Manager. We received no answer and I then called the hotel and left a message asking the hotel manager to call me. That call was never returned and the spa treatment was not forthcoming. The spa itself was OK, music in the swimming pool area would have enhanced the feeling of relaxation and the spa Manager was pleasant and welcoming. Rooms are tired and overall the hotel would benefit from being modernised and fixtures and fittings upgraded. Dinner was disappointing, mostly microwaved dishes and the knowledge of serving staff poor on what we would consider the basics ie soup of the day and house wines. One member of the staff was outstanding and very apologetic when she realised that service at our table had fallen short. In attendance that evening was Ed who I assume was the area manager. He was approaching tables to check in with guests, I assume trying to gain feedback on their stay. When it was our turn I took him away from our table so as to not dampen the evening and made him fully aware as to how disappointed we were with the lack of communication over the requested spa treatment and general service at dinner. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine which whilst very nice, was not the response I wanted when I made him aware that the least they could do was contact our elderly guest and offer a complimentary massage at another time. I am adamant that we will never return to the hotel again and will not be recommending it to any friends or family.
Booked a spa and overnight stay with evening meal and breakfast package for a party of 6 of us.... what a total let down from begin to end. The only spa “treatment” included was the floatation or razul which 2 of our group didn't want so we contacted the hotel in advance to see if there was an option to have a massage... we never got a reply!!! The 4 of us had the razul and use of the pool and steam and sauna which was very nice and the spa manager was lovely. After the “treatment” we had to wait till 3 o'clock to check into our room so decided to have a drink in the bar. When the waitress finally turned up I asked for a hot chocolate and a piece of cake was told we don't do cake even though there was coffee and cake advertised for £5.95. She didn't know how to make the hot chocolate and had to get another member of staff to make it and had to ask the chef if they do cake. Said I would like my cake warmed up but both drink and cake came back cold!My husband asked for a receipt after ordering our drinks to which she tutted and said oh I've rung it off now. Checking into our rooms was straight forward and we had 3 rooms next door to each other. Bathroom needs updating and our tv didn't work but had a comfortable nights sleep. Evening meal was very disappointing, staff had no knowledge of the soup of the day or even what the house wine was and the meals although hot were definitely microwaved. Paying £14.95 for a microwave meal is totally unacceptable. The waitress had no customer service skills whatsoever and really didn't look like they wanted to be there. We ordered desserts and asked for custard but got ice cream. During the meal a man called Ed came over to see if everything was ok and a friend in our group took him to one side to say how disappointed we were by the whole stay. Although he was very apologetic the damage had been done and judging by the reviews I guess he must be use to disappointed customers. We have been here many times before but this will definitely be our last. The whole experience was a sham apart from the company of very good friends and family. The Best Western needs a total shake up with some new friendly experienced staff as this hotel definitely hasn't got it. I sincerely hope to receive a personal reply to this as you will know who we are with an apology at the very least.
Purchased a “deal” through Best Western which included Bed, breakfast, 3 course evening meal with a bottle of wine and a spa treatment for two. It came at a very good price and was initially really pleased with the offer. We were issued room 220 upon arrival which is a long way from reception which wasn't a problem but you immediately realise what the room may be like as you walk along a thread bare second set of stairs. Very spacious room but that's all. Very cold so turned the bedroom radiator on immediately which consistently made a very loud, constant noise (sounded like a kettle about to boil……all of the time) and released a poor amount of heat for the size of it, needs a good bleed I think. The bathroom radiator never worked at all. Double bed was ok but very noisy with the simplest of movements in bed turning over, also very “springy” in places. The bathroom was very tired with a net curtain only up covering a very damp and mouldy window. What we can only see as “ dirt” on the toilet cistern, sink and tiles we wiped off. Reception and bar areas we ok albeit buying a drink was a little expensive. The three course meal also was just ok. Starters were good, the garlic mushrooms and pate/ toast were very tasty and enjoyable. The curry of the day was explained as a chicken korma it was most definitely not that and albeit edible the chicken was very “plastic” and quite dry. My wife's sausage and mash had tough sausages with some of that left also. The mash and veggies that accompanied it were good however. The deserts were very tasteless. At breakfast there was plenty to choose from and it's hard to say but all the items that were not cooked, tea, coffee, yoghurts, fruit, cereal were all good but the bacon was hard, sausages tough, scrambled egg watery and mushrooms and tomatoes cold. The finest part was the spa treatment and the floatation, nice set up and really relaxing, would definitely recommend this!! All in all it's a fairly negative review, but staff were all nice and welcoming but like some of the other reviews definitely not a 4 star hotel. At the absolute best a 3 star.
This little gem of a hotel was delight to stay at. Went with my daughters for a spa break to relax and unwind. The staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The food was great. We had the most relaxed stay, had used the spa and had the rasul treatment and relax we did
Loud customers Noisy room Expensive menu and awful Put complaint in still waiting and I'm home cleanliness wasn't great either Staff not smiley that's important Spa was ok and relaxing In general not a great stay got up early to go home with a banging headache from noise in room all night
We did not choose to stay at this hotel, but were there with a party of friends as it was the only hotel reasonably close to a celebration event we were at. The whole hotel is in an awful state of décor and disrepair. Rooms are decorated sparsely and need significant updating and redecoration. Due to the age and state of the rooms, it is impossible to get and keep them clean, which seemed not really to have been attempted anyway. The staff attempt to be friendly, but this seems like a huge effort for them and there are not enough of them to assist with anything that is wrong any way. The first room we were allocated was in a small building across the back of the property, which was a long walk across a very dark, unlit car park with an uneven floor surface. There was no lighting outside the building as we approached and the signage was non-existent so we had no idea if we were in the right place. The external door to the building was locked, so we couldn't even get in! on returning from the long return walk back from reception, we found the electronic panel outside the external door, which was activated with our room key. There was no sign or instructions on the door about this so how were we to know in the dark?! Once we got into this room we immediately went back to reception and requested a change of room as there was paint peeling from the wall, stains on the toilet, the mirror had something spattered all over it and many other cleanliness issues, as well as our concern of returning to the room in the dark late at night after a drink or two! The alternative room we were moved to was only just acceptable, but we presumed this was the best they had so accepted it in spite of its similar awful state of décor. Throughout the night the radiators made terrible noises, probably not having been bled since the 1970s and the bathroom light came on automatically when you entered whether you wanted it on or not!!! Breakfast was ridiculously expensive for a basic buffet-style cooked Full English. After the 'event' that we attended when we and the full party returned to the hotel we found the bar closed having been assured it would be available to us whenever we wanted it. After some guests being told it would not be opening we did persuade the one member of staff on site to open up. Not her fault, but it then took almost an hour for everyone to be served a drink as she was working alone. I could go on, but all in all not a great experience!
Checked in for a 2 night stay for my Fathers funeral. We travelled down from the Midlands and arrived late in the evening . Reception staff polite and really helpful. This is what we found. Family room floorboards all creak. Sink filthy and backed up when used. Shower not fit for purpose, low pressure, Toilet needed a good clean, filthy. Cobwebs everywhere. Bathroom tiles thick in dust. Strip light buzzing so loud it had to be turned off. Our room was above the reception and when you looked out of the window the roof was littered with smashed plant pots and other rubbish. This place was probably really nice 30 years ago. It needs refurbishing or demolishing. We did not raise any of the issues to reception as I'm sure they have heard it all before. We did complain to customer service online, but the response was disappointing, no surprise.
If you want broken windows and threadbare stained carpets on the way to your room as well as a grubby room with mould encrusted windows, a rust ridden shower which, together with the central heating, makes nearly as much noise as an air-raid warning, then this is the place for you. Well this was what was in Room 220 (Suite).
In a quiet situation but only 2 mins from A12. Lovely room and excellent breakfast. Would stay longer in future. A good base for Constable country. Not far from the ast coast too. Ipswich marina area is only minutes away
We booked this hotel as we were attending a spa nearby and wanted somewhere to stay the night. It was ridiculously cheap so we didn't have high expectations. The positives are that the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast (included in our room rate) was excellent, loads of choice, not busy, everything hot and tasty. The biggest negative was how old the hotel looks, it's like you're being transported back in time. The floor looks like pub carpet, the rooms stank of smoke and dogs (again, like being in a grotty pub), there was mould in the corner of one of the rooms and the showers barely worked. The amount of condensation that built up on the windows was crazy! We didn't bother complaining as we hadn't paid much at all and expected all the rooms to be the same, so can't comment on whether these issues might have been solvable. But I think it's pretty embarrassing to find these rooms acceptable. Such a shame as the rest of our stay was really pleasant, the decor really lets this place down.
Stayed for one night to attend a charity function. The hotel itself is like most hotels of this era is in need of a refurbishment. The staff a nice and friendly doing their best. The hotel is clean generally throughout. Would have nice to have time to use the swimming pool as looked very good. We had a double (room 602) which had and extra single bed the beds were comfortable. Large LCD TV (this was trying to be in keeping with the hotel as date on screen 1970), tea tray and two bottles of water. The net curtain had several holes in the bottom and windows dirty on the outside. The bathroom shows the age a newish basin in an old aged marked top but works. The WC would not flush properly and need several flushes filled slow and stained on front flushing hole. The shower worked but I did not have an enjoyable shower as kept running hot or cold depending on usage by other guests. Buffet breakfast again OK nothing special.
Staff was polite however what was meant to be a superior room was disgusting. Room stunk had to ask reception for spray. Shower filthy. The floors and doors squeaked all night the bathroom was filthy the windows had condensation water dripping on the floor. The only good thing was the plastic cups were in a seal plastic bag. Purchased the deal via Wowcher and they were not helpful. Disappointing. Contacted both the hotel and WOWCHER and neither were helpful. Money down the drain
What a great experience, so many compliments to pay to this hotel……… from GREAT STAFF , DELICIOUS FOOD , very comfortable bed , large airy room , housekeeping girls very helpful & polite , waiting staff Bar & restaurant-100% nothing was too much trouble for any of them , they all work so hard & we want to say a BIG Thank you all , we will return often ( & soon hopefully)
Was ok needs a lick of paint . Food wasn't up to much they say mash but was smash . And wasn't worth the money really. Spa good lady on reception was brilliant overall ok rooms were nice an big just the food was a big let down
We stayed one night this week and that was enough! The temperature was 8 degrees outside and almost as cold inside. There was no heating in the bedrooms, corridor, dinning room or bar and we had to sit in our room with our coats on. The staff were very friendly but none of them wore masks or exercised social distancing. The hotel was very tired with a hole in our bedside cabinet. This had been covered with a piece of cardboard Sellotaped in place.
Only stayed one night but everything was perfect.Room spotless, bed comfy and full hospitality tray including biscuits. The breakfast room was very well decorated and a fantastic selection of food all looked after by a lovely friendly lady,Shirley. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
We stayed for two nights and we had a lovely time. Dinner and breakfast were delicious with lots of choice offered. The staff were really helpful and friendly. It was just a real relaxing hotel and we will be returning again.
The room was cheap and that should have been the warning sign we needed ...but we was only staying 1 night and the kids wanted a hotel with a swimming pool so we chose this one, plus it said it's a 4 star hotel so surely it was going to be ok?..big mistake. Upon arrival we was notified that the spa facilities were closed for maintenance. This was one of the main reasons why we booked this hotel. We stayed in the lodge and all the signage outside pointed out that there was lake nearby and was potentially dangerous. It was amazing to see that when it got dark there was no lighting at all leading up to the lodge, absolutely pitch black. Not great when something so dangerous is close by and you can't see it let along the signage that warns about the problem when it's dark... The room was decent enough, nothing spectacular but usuable although unbearably hot despite the radiators being off. I've never used a fan in October before but they say there's a first for everything!... There was this strange smell throughout the hotel, a kind of mothball smell, old a sort of stale aroma...the room was like it too although situated off the main premises and in a different block. Back to the room...the toilet and shower wasn't cleaned properly upon arrival and there was thick yellow gunk around the fixings of the toilet seat which was either glue of congealed urine...there was also hair in the shower which is never nice to find... The hotel itself is nowhere near Ipswich town centre so look at the location properly if you need to be close by anything in Ipswich. There's not many local amenities either so get what you need before you arrive. All in all, I was disappointed with the hotel experience sadly but then what should have I expected for £65?
We were given our room key and when we opened the door it had not been cleaned from the previous occupants. The bed was a mess and used towels were on the bathroom floor. When we complained the manager apologised and said they were short staffed. We asked how they could give out keys to rooms that hadn't been cleaned , didn't they have some sort of system in place? The manager snapped at us that she had apologised and they were doing their best. We were told to sit down and they would get it done as soon as they could. 25 minures later we were told it was ready, There were hairs on both mugs so they went back (no apology this time just "I'll change them for you .") The bathroom bin had not been wiped down, the top of it was dirty and sticky so I cleaned it myself, the floor could not have been mopped as it was completely dry. There was dust on the headboard. A light switch in our room was not working so we reported that but it hadn't been sorted by the time we left. The window frames were covered in cobwebs and had clearly not been cleaned for years and the net curtain was tatty . The hotel is dirty and dated with a fusty smell throughout and the carpets on the stairs and corridor haven't been hoovered for days. The window frames in the stairwell are absolutely disgusting. I am not sure how the hotel got it's covid ready status with the dust and cobwebs around the place. The manager needs training in how to manage staff and hotels and also how to interact with customers. I wish we'd read the reviews before we booked but we wrongly assumed that Best Western was a good hotel group. How can it still be so bad after so many bad reviews ?
I can't speak for all the rooms in this hotel but the room we stayed in was very poor indeed. I would never come back here again. From what we saw of other areas, the whole Hotel needs updating. Threadbare carpets on the stairs, stains on the ceilings and doors, bad plumbing and poorly thought out room layouts and lighting. This is the first Best Western we've stayed in and if this is the standard quality of their hotels we won't be booking into another anytime soon.
Wouldn't even rate it 1 out of 5 more a zero! Rooms very dated, bathrooms tired and in need of a good clean, receptionist is clueless and unhelpful. Would not recommend a stay here and won't be coming back in a hurry, very disappointing and unfortunately have to spend a week here due to work commitments
This is by far the worst hotel I think I've stayed in. When we got there they had no idea that I had even booked it. Although the lady gave us a room, there was no apology but more of an inconvenience. When we got to the room the bathroom was disgusting. Pubic hairs on the toilet!! Whilst getting ready to go out the door started to open and a lady walked in. A guest had been given a keycard to our room!! Luckily we had bloody clothes on!! When I told the front desk they really didn't seem to fussed. The girl simply said. Oh sorry. When we got a drink from the bar there was pink lipstick left on my husbands pint glass. No apology given. Just a ‘let me change it' They have no idea on how to deal with the public or how to apologise. I will not be coming back here.
Hotel needs updating especially the bathroom. (not a superior room as promised) Staff did not seem to know anything about the offer it was all a bit disorganised- wish we had known that 2 coachloads were staying as not enough staff to cope. Spa was good as no one else there.
Where should i begin !!!! We visited as my partners son was getting married at a nearby venue, so was convenient for us, and other guests. We were booked in for 5 nights...and had a superior room booked with breakfast.. The room was average...but very dated....but ok for our stay. The shower wasnt great due to the water pressure... Restaurant looked inviting, and on our 1st evening, had booked a meal ,as we were tired from a very long train journey.. The menu was uninspiring, But we ordered and the Starters were nice, Main courses were average.....The waitress took our drink orders, then i was told they didnt have the wine id ordered from the menu...so i settled for 2nd choice.. Breakfasts for the next2 days were pretty good....choice wise.... Then it gets worse.. The Brides mum had asked 3 different members of staff in advance if we could have 2 tables together on the day after the wedding, so we could all be together for breakfast...and some Just Married Banners put round the tables.. We all came down looking forward to this, and found nothing had been done !!! After finding a member of staff, they hurriedly laid up 2 tables, with just a brief apology...... There was a different Chef over the weekend, and the food was awful...Burnt dry Sausages, Greasy Eggs, and a chef that looked like he didnt want to be there...Also there were no glasses, cups and Juices etc were mostly empty... It could have spoilt what was a beautiful weekend. .The day after that, our breakfast was even worse....The fried eggs were sitting in grease, and every one had been broken..YOU DO NOT SERVE FOOD LIKE THAT !!!!! we didnt return for breakfast on our last day... We realise Covid has made staff problems.....But it seems like most of the staff need serious training in Customer service as most dont seem to have a clue how to deal with things. Or cant be bothered.. The Only Good thing we can really say about the staff ,Was our Lovely Housekeeping Lady Gemma, who truly was a star, and a pleasure to chat with. She made sure we had all we needed, and the young man behind the Bar on Friday Lunchtime, who found the wine id wanted straightaway, which no one else could. .It had been in the fridge all week strangely enough.!!!!!! This is a lovely Building that needs to be updated, And staff that need to be trained properly...Then things may improve...
Very pleasant 1 night getaway. Good dinner and breakfast. Nice restaurant overlooking the garden. Tablecloths and linen napkins. Friendly helpful staff. Expected bigger bed in a superior room. Very comfortable, spacious, lounge/bar area with winding staircase. Hotel has lift but serves only one end of the hotel so caused bit of a problem as we had stairs to negotiate - my partner has bad knee and I am visually impaired. Had we asked I feel sure they would have changed our room if possible. However, nice view over the garden. Had been previously and would stay there again.
Stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed 3 great breakfasts. Rooms were clean, adequately furnished and comfortable. The TV sets are a bit on the small size but we didn't come away to stay in the room all the time. Had one evening meal in which was tasty from a decent selection. The hotel could do with a lick of paint on the outside and at some time some internal modernisation but it represents great value and was well positioned for all out needs on the A12 and A14. This was our third stay and we will definitely stay again when we next visit the area - which we do twice a year.
I was visiting my friend of over 50 years on and off, who lives locally, so it was very convenient. Unfortunately there was a wedding reception on this night which pushed the price up. Only problem was the TV remote which did not work at all, replaced by reception. The replacement was not the one for the TV in the room and the buttons did not correspond to the commands. Not really the hotel's fault it's the guests that steal them! Otherwise no complaints very quiet even though there was a wedding reception did not hear a thing and both had a good nights sleep. Plenty of variety for breakfast and the sausages are very nice. I was lucky to get a room on the ground floor because my wife would not have managed the stairs.
Booked the superior room, unfortunately the rooms had cobwebs in corners of it and spiders there upon arrival. The receptionist didn't seem to want to acknowledge the spiders when I mentioned. the location there was questionable due to heat there was an awful lot of bugs flying everywhere. Even in their nice outside garden. Was looking forward to enjoy my food out there but was forced to eat in the room due to the bugs everywhere. The wowcher advert we had used to book this trip promised us a jacuzzi which was out of service the entire stay. It had promised 2 complimentary glasses of champagne upon arrival which was never received and slippers to take home which they had run out of. However the rest of wowcher advert it had delivered fine. But the rest of the expected service was poor.
Went with the family for a Sunday Carvery at the restaurant. Firstly service was slow when ordering a drinks and waitress was t aware of prices of things! The worst thing however ( we are mid COVID) the chef dishing up our food at the Carvery was coughing - no mask- was wearing gloves and dishes up the vegetables with hands- he did not pick up a serving spoon or tong - I found it disgusting and very in hygienic . I did speak to the manager who stated that half my party were not wearing masks either! I stated that they were not coughing nor were they serving up food. If things do not change then I certainly would not recommend eating here. I have contacted environmental health because I actually feel that this is a health risk.
I stayed here with my family on Monday the 20th September. Room was ok, and we slept so did the job, food wasn't great but the restaurant staff were lovely, helpful, polite and competent so made up for that. The lady on the reception however…. Was awful!! Spoke to her on 2 separate occasions and she was Rude, unhelpful, had a face like thunder, an attitude as if she didn't want to be there and got the impression she couldn't care less. Considering this is probably the first person you see on arrival at the hotel I'm shocked she's who you've picked. My husband does not complain usually but actually made a point to specifically Find out her name for this review as he felt so strongly about how poor her attitude with us was. Her name is Kelsey. Overall wasn't a completely unpleasant stay only thing that really let it down was the receptionist and that is why we have rated so low on the satisfaction scale.
As a businessperson, requiring an overnight stay which is comfortable, clean and quiet, I was sorely disappointed. Late arrival saw me put in a dreadfully tired room on the farthest corner of the premises. Thinking this may be for me to benefit from an undisturbed sleep, I couldn't have been more wrong. Throughout the night, I woke at every clunk from toilets flushing and other plumbing noises. Adding insult to injury, my own morning shower was a no go when I turned it on (despite the shower head which had had numerous apparent fixes made to it) to be met with a dribble pouring from one end of the head. Not ideal for anyone, let alone someone on business in the area. Every inch of the hotel brought me to threadbare carpets and decor well passed its sell by date. How can owners of such an establishment expect their staff to take pride in themselves? The answer is that they cannot. At Breakfast, I was greeted very nicely but by someone who clearly had no pride in a fresh (clean) appearance. It goes without saying that I cut breakfast short and made a stop for something once I went on my way. Never to return!
Room was not very clean, smell of damp, window were so wet in morning due to poor ventilation, breakfast bacon and sausage were hard very chewy pastries were dry and tasted of nothing. Had to ask for my arrival drinks myself were not given on arrival has it stated
Room was dusty with cobwebs. Shower didnt work. Cracks in walls Flooring missing in bar. No disabled facilities in suffolk suite. Wallpaper peeling off walls. Mould on walls. Bar ceiling falling down.
Unfortunately we only had one night at this lovely hotel. The service was brilliant from the moment we walked in the door. We were upgraded to a Superior room and it was lovely. Clean, comfortable and spacious. The Reception staff were very friendly and helpful too. We ate in the Restaurant in the evening and the food was beautiful. Very flavoursome, good portions and quickly served despite there being 2 coach party guests. If we are back in Ipswich again, we will definitely stay here .
superb staff ,limited dinner menu ,great breakfast good easy parking easy road link into Ipswich and the surrounding area , no traffic noise to be heard in the bedroom , on the down side the bathroom lighting was useless and the TV was smaller than my laptop ,as always a good stay but some areas do need a refurb
We booked a double room some time ago via Booking.Com for 7 nights at £38 a night - a good price. In the days immediately prior to journeying from The West to the hotel,Best Western sent 7 unsolicited different emails asking me to upgrade at extra cost - we didn,t.We arrived at our room - No:513 - traveling through corridors that had not seen a hoover in days, dead flies proliferated, and all the rest of it.Not a professional welcome we thought. The room was fine, plenty big enough for us for a week, modern more or less, though well used, though again dirty. An unhoovered carpet, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, long hair and more dead flies behind the bathroom door,(which I guess are still there)....and purple hair blocking the hand wash sink which we had to remove and clean to allow the water to drain.Being immediately above the swimming pool the temperature was tropical.A small fan was eventually brought which was of some use.A disappointing experience, though for the money we paid satisfactory....just.
Bad smell in the room. Taps didn't mix the hot and cold water properly. No towels in the room on our arrival. Mistakes from the receptionists by giving us another room to move in. We found guests already inside the room. Etc. Etc... I do not recommend unfortunately!
What was a good Hotel in June has become a bad Hotel. If you are on a coach trip you get some service. BUT couples booking are treated to bad service not getting what you booked dogs around you at meal times and the door for smokers left open
Sadly the hotel seems very run down, and staff have a real lack of pride in their workplace- when working is hospitality that is a real shame! The bar was poorly stocked and lacked choice. Would not probably choose to stay here again.
I never write reviews. We arrived on a beautiful morning for a wedding nearby. We asked at reception anywhere we could get changed. They were very polite and said sorry no rooms but could use toilets or spa. We checked OK to check in after 2300hrs and she said fine we have a night portor. We arrive back after a lovely day 2330hrs only to find that night portor says they are full and have no booking for us. He phoned service manager and he told us they had contacted last minute. Com that morning to say no available room for us even though we booked a week ago. We ended up sleeping in our car. I respect we booked through a 3rd party however what I am annoyed at is why did the women in the morning not check our names to ensure had a booking for us. The night portor said handed over all full no further bookings. Why was he not warned from day staff that maybe a problem as she knew we were coming back to book in? Did not get sincere apology from Florence on reception next morning she had not even been handed over what had happened, sorry she came across as not bothered. I phoned to speak to manager today, my phone disconnected. I phoned back leaving my number so she could phone me back and she has not even bothered. Terrible terrible experience.
I just wanted to start with a big thank you to all the staff that worked tirelessly to make our wedding go seamlessly from Kate the general manager to the housekeepers that literally couldn't do enough for us you were all amazing. We had the best day and won't forgot any of you ❤️ The room I had was huge and fantastic for myself and my girls to get ready. It was clean spacious and the beds were so so comfortable. All my guests were happy and commented on what a lovely hotel it is was, a lot of my out of town guests said they will be returning. Thank you so much again love Mr and Mrs Mills x
I stayed here for 2 nights for my best friend's wedding. Kate the manager, I cannot fault her hard work and dedication, working tirelessly to ensure the wedding went seamlessly. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, thank you so much to you and the team for making everything perfect. Jenna and Danielle you worked your little socks off and were lovely and friendly. Thank you to everyone for a memorable weekend.
Possibly the 'Worst' Western. This place makes any youth hostel feel like a 'Shangri-La'. Dirty beyond belief. We were one of 4 couples staying Friday through to this morning for convenience to the beautiful Copdock Hall for a wedding. It was so bad, one couple checked out at 6.30 yesterday morning and moved up the road to the Holiday Inn. Remarkably 3 of us had toilets that didn't flush and we had a shower that didn't work and a bath with a tap missing. That said, if you're over 25 stone, hate customer service and fancy a really unpleasant experience, this place could be for you..... Whole place needs bulldozing.
Spent the night wide awake due to noise from another room. We weren't offered another room and nothing was done with our complaint. The manager didn't care enough to take any action and fobbed us off by saying it's bank holiday no one is available. And there was someone else blood on the shower curtain
Rooms at front of the hotel are quite noisy with traffic and continuous loud talking from other guests outside the front reception area. Suggest booking a room far away from the front of the hotel. Otherwise experience was relatively good.
I've just spent one night at this hotel and overall enjoyed the experience. I don't normally sleep that well when staying in a hotel, but did on this occasion - so that must say something! The room was clean and breakfast was good. The only downside was that I couldn't get the window to open. The room (108) was rather stuffy as a result and given covid, the air felt a little stale. However, good value for money - ask for a room at the back as you overlook the gardens rather than the main road.
Summer and Paul are such an asset to the team. Although our rooms were quite hot, Summer helped us find a fan and Paul helped us with settling in. A unique hotel with amazing team members, especially Summer and Paul.
Very busy hotel with people waiting to check in with the friendly receptionist. Room was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfy. Getting extra teas and coffee's wasn't a problem. Spent the evening in the bar with the friendly bar staff called Kyle and Rose. Breakfast was very nice with good coffee. I would stay again.
My husband daughter and my self stayed at this hotel for 1 night and had a great stay. We received a nice welcome at reception with in formation given about the pool. Our room was nice and clean with a good prize tv. The room was a little warm but it is the summer. Booking in to have a swim was very simple my daughter had a great time. When we get the time we will be staying again.
the hotel bedroom hadnt been hoovered, and base cover had so many stains on it. We got moved to another room and the bin looked like it had been used as a toilet for a few years and stunk, amazingly a member of staff had put a bin bag in it. The toilet where the water flushes was so black and in the room same problem with bed base cover, i asked a member of staff if they could change it they never did. Went for a meal in the evening underneath the table was old food, when we went down for breakfast it was still there. So you would think when you put your complaints in to the staff you would get a friendly reply , well you dont rude staff, no good morning nothing. they just stand around chatting, all the corridors need hoovering and have a look at the ceiling in the dining room botched up with odd bits of wood. The place is in need of painting, a good clean, and change of staff attitude. If our dog wasnt having an operation that day we would have gone home because although dog friendly there is no way i would have my dog on that filthy carpet
This is the 3rd time I have stayed here and Ive just booked again for a 2night stay rasul, spa and afternoon tea. Would highly recommend this hotel for an inexepensive weekend away. Staff work really hard and although service can be slow at times you can clearly see staff are all working hard including the manager who also multi tasks. Rooms are lovely, spotlessly clean and beds are really comfortable. Spa, rasul and relaxation area are again spotlessly clean and Spa Staff are really helpful. Food was lovely. Find it difficult to read such poor reviews as its just not fair.....if you want 5* pay for 5*. Great overall value and service for a lovely hotel.
We stayed in the lodge about 150 yards from the hotel. We were on the top floor, in the eaves of the roof. The bedroom was spacious enough but the bathroom was very poor. The shower was virtually impossible to use - unless you were happy to stand with your head out of the skylight. The bar was incredibly expensive - a pint of lager (as no real ales) and a small glass of Prosecco was over £12 Terrible tasting orange juice at breakfast and very fatty bacon. No soap in the bathrooms. No aircon in rooms making it very uncomfortable to sleep in. Very disappointing experience with this hotel.
Shocking service at the bar, poor attitude towards us and really felt like they couldn't be bothered for our custom or not. Reception team were lovely which made check-in easy and stress free!! Room was generally clean and well presented. Room came with showergel/shampoo but no soap which was a bit puzzling! All in all room was satisfactory.
Helpful, staff at the spa, heavenly treatments. Pre-booking are advisable. Superior room was extra large, very clean, crisp, white bedsheets, pillow choices, comfy bed - we had the best night sleep in there. Fantastic selection of breakfast from cooked English to continental. The hotel a bit outdated (ceiling in dining room needs to be modernised - it is in sharp contrast to the tastefully painted/decorated wall) hence the 4 star. But makes up for it with spaciousness, comfort it provides, value for money and staff hospitality. Happy to come back again.
Booked 2 rooms for a one night stay while attending a family function. Have to say rooms very comfortable and I liked the fact that their is a door that separates the sleeping quarters from the bathroom. Staff very helpful
Poor stay only 1 night thankfully and that was one to many. Room uninspiring and in a tired state of repair. NO SOAP in bathroom apparently waiting for a delivery for the whole hotel! Bathroom had water stains all over the mirror. Awaiting an answer for an upgrade which we had little to no response. Bar area only 2 packets of crisps on offer both plain. Outside seating area very boring dirty seating no real view . Won't be staying again.
Worst hotel I've ever had the pleasure of staying in! The hotel was filthy! The spa was full and they could not accommodate us, check in was 3pm but the room was still not ready at 4:30pm. Was promised a refund and still waiting for it a week later.
Well where do I start best western doesn't like anyone who books with booking.com they must hate them we where put in the worst room at the furthest point of the hotel the shower was a waste of time the decor from 70,s they certainly don't want you to come back again!!!!
Tatty scruffy needs renovation urgently. Didn't use spa but looks more modern Young staff need training in restaurant Food ok. Remote location. Nearest eating several miles so you're stuck here. Food ok not hugely overpriced £13 fish n chips etc. Huge car park you could park a jet ! Had to ask to get soap etc .. lazy. Clean but everything shabby. Mould on ceiling in restaurant. Carpets tatty. Long dark walk to the annexe I stayed in. If I was 80 I'd have broken my neck. Lights please. Not recommended
Booked superior room for a one night stay to allow us to attend a funeral of a friend. No way was the room a superior room. Very drab, furnishings very dated. Drawer with hairdryer In Was swimming with water. Decor was poor .
Stayed here for my husbands birthday. First impressions are its a bit dated. Definitely needs a face lift. The staff were amazing, nothing too much trouble. Drink selection at the bar was limited and the hotel location is not in Ipswich but in Copdock which makes for a very quiet stay. Great value for money and food was lovely. Would not recommend the Spa with Spabreaks. Spa manager on site had a poor attituded and information provided was poor. The treatment itself was lovely
Stayed here for two nights with friends just for a mini break. What can I say, STAFF: Couldn't do enough for us. Helpful, efficient, polite and lovely. ROOM: Comfy, really clean loads of tea and coffee, gorgeous shower. (Was a bath just didn't use it) SPA: Small but great. Staff lovely again. We all had a Rasul (mud treatment) and one of our party had a massage and said it was gorgeous. Used the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms too. Make sure you book this so you don't miss out! All in all a fab break in a lovely hotel. All the staff worked so hard to make everyone happy and comfortable. Have booked again as have my friends so I think they will be seeing lots more of us. Thank you all.
Staff and hotel amenities are excellent. Only thing that let's it down is the cleanliness of the rooms. Food was excellent again and the spa facilities were used and couldn't fault it. Quiet location but close enough to Ipswich.
We really enjoyed our stay. The room was quiet and comfortable . The staff were friendly and professional and always ready to help. The breakfast was good, variety of choices with cooked breakfast. The spa and gym were also good.
We got married here 2 years ago and recently went back for a visit. As always the food was exemplary, the staff were lovely, the room was spacious. We also enjoyed the spa. We had an incredible flotation experience and used the pool afterwards which was lovely and not too busy. Already wanting to visit again.
From moment I walked in to when I left, staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble rooms comfortable, food was fantastic. Definitely recommend and will be returning with family in the near future.
Amazing stay at this hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Used the spa with my wife what a great experience. Breakfast and dinner was amazing. Would recommend to anyone going on a little break away from home.
We stayed at the hotel for a VIP experience in July. The spa was nice if a bit noisy. Dinner and breakfast were good but the hotel needs a bit of love. The staff were charming and hard working. In fact, one of them did 4 jobs. Our room was Spotless but the water in the bathroom was extremely hot, so take care. It was a bonus to have a pet chicken in the garden.
Admittedly, when we arrived we were apprehensive as the exterior looked like it needed some TLC. However, our minds were quickly changed once we entered: all staff were friendly and helpful throughout, the room was clean and spacious with a nice view, noise issues were addressed by reception, the spa facilities were excellent as were the gym. My partner and I used the spa facilities and booked a Rasul treatment which was relaxing and well-thought out. The food, both breakfast and dinner, was reasonably priced, well cooked, good portion sizes. Service throughout was very quick and done with a smile. Overall, if you're looking for a quiet escape, whether young or old, with no disturbances and nice views and a good feel, this is the place to stay.
Just had a most enjoyable stay at this hotel, spacious room, good fresh cooked breakfast, nice grounds and pleasant staff, unbelievably good value for money, would recommend to family and friends and would return when in that area.
We had a brilliant stay. All the staff were very helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. It was nice to be able to have a full english breakfast when other hotels were only offering a packed breakfast
I am sat in this hotel at the moment and it's unbearably hot,the heated towel rail in the bathroom will not switch off despite staff trying on 2 occasions to turn it off,I was assured that today a maintenence worker would come and remedy the problem, however on my return I find that hasn't happened.on reporting it (again) to the manager I was told there is nothing she could do.I would advise you to avoid room 304 as its stifling and I am not looking forward to another sleepless night.
Service was reasonably good but room was smelly and didn't look like it had been cleaned for a while. There was other peoples hair in the Bath and on the bathroom wall. Avoid the food at all costs including breakfast - expensive, overcooked, cold, hard, tasteless and had a hair in my desert Looks quite shabby and old from the outside and the room wasn't much better!
The hotel itself is not too far from Ipswich however there is nothing close by in terms of shops. It is dated and could do with a good clean. The room itself was spacious with adequate towels but we had a shower over a bath which I found strange in this day and age. There was also an anti slip bath mat which in my opinion is not hygienic. The toilet struggled to flush most of the time and we only had hot water twice in the days we stayed. We didn't eat or drink in the hotel but found a small pub about 15 minutes walk away. I'm not sure I would stay at the Best Western Ipswich again but I guess you get what you pay for. Some of the staff looked very young and reluctant to even acknowledge you but on the whole the staff were pleasant.
How has this hotel got such high reviews? So many give it 4 or 5 stars but when you read the reviews themselves they are full of complaints. Let me begin with the good. The staff are on the whole very nice. They seemed to be working hard at all times. The welcome was very friendly and the catering team seemed to be overworked at the weekend. However. As the man dishing out the breakfast for any egg other than the wet scrambled egg, you will get a “tut” a role of eyes and a disappearing act. Parking. There is plenty of parking behind the hotel. There is an iron in the room and one pack of two biscuits for two guests. The bad. I only have 460 character left. The hotel is dirty. Photos attached. Bathroom shower head so blocked I had baths each day. The beds were small double beds. This is fine for a victorian B&B but not for a room of this price. There is no way this hotel would meet and AA four star rating today. It may have met that rating back in the 1980s when the hotel was last refurbished. The 5 am fire alarm ensured that we did not get a good nights sleep on the first of my three nights. No explanation or apology given whe at 5:30am we were allowed back to out rooms. The second night we shared the hotel with a number of drunk women who were allowed to stay up drinking late into the the night and loudly. Finally in the third night the man I. The next room spent if throwing up all night. The smell was still clearly wafting thought out the hotel the next morning. I overheard another customer complaining and being fobbed off that they had not had any complaints about the hot before. I highly doubt it. There are lots of hotels in and around Ipswich which are far better maintained and better value. Seriously consider any of them before you book this hotel.
Do not be put off by the outside look, the interior and staff are much better than average and have a pleasant attitude that customers are there to be helped. well thought out Covid taken into account felt very safe.
The fabric of the hotel is a little bit tired, but some work was in progress while we were there. The linen and beds beds are clean and very comfortable. The food is great, huge portion sizes, and ALL the staff are friendly, helpful & pleasant. I would definitely stay again.
First the positives. Staff in the hotel were very nice. Afternoon tea was fantastic and evening meal was very good. That's where the good ends. The hotel itself needs a lot of work. It is very rundown. The room had water coming out of the bath overflow and water running from the shower tap on the wall. The room was large and nice enough apart from when I picked up a teaspoon and it was sticky and dirty. We could overlook this as we were only there for a night. What we had booked for was a relaxing spa experience. It was far from relaxing. In fact it was awful and I came away feeling worse than when I went in. The Rasul treatment was good. We then could only book an hour slot in the pool an hour and a half after our treatment. Not the end of the world during the issues with Covid and we were at least allowed to sit on loungers next to the pool while we waited for our slot. The problems were that the steam room door didn't shut, so the steam room wasn't great, the sauna didn't work, the pool was small and it was hard to get into the spa pool as other guests refused to leave after their timeslot and would not get out. We were even abused by them when we asked if we could have some time in it. The pool was treated by families and some other guests as a wild leisure pool rather than a relaxing spa. This is a hotel with pool and some spa treatments, not a relaxing spa hotel.
We had a 2 night stay here as we were about to book in a family in reception were complaining about the cleanliness of their room which sent my alarm bells ringing but the solitary receptionist handled the problem well and organised a refund for them. Fortunately our room was spotlessly clean but very basic with no tolitaries and desperately tired in need of a refurb, which the whole building exterior is in great need of tlc the public rooms were fine and the breakfast was barely warm but adequate
We chose to have Sunday lunch at this restaurant with friends we hadn't seen for many months. On arrival there was a grotty looking sanitiser at the entrance, no staff on reception. As we waited for our friends arrival several different members of staff passed us, not wearing masks. We were greeted on arrival in the restaurant & shown to our table. The restaurant was empty. We ordered our starters & they arrived in good time. This restaurant used to be a help yourself carvery (pre COVID) but the person who carves the meat also dishes up the vegetables yorkshires etc. Considering there are 8-10 additional items to dish up this took some time. Once at the table the whole meal was luke warm & in parts very salty. For dessert 2 of us chose fresh fruit salad which arrived in a bowl with no additional cream/ice cream. There was no finesse, especially with the mis matched cutlery, some of it looked worse for ware. Two of us ordered coffee to have in the lounge, it was dreadful. The whole hotel looked on the cusp of needing a good clean & update. They certainly need to look at their COVID measures which are not up to standard. The reason we chose this as a place to meet is because you are able to sit & chat for as long as you like, we seriously need to find an alternative venue.
This hotel is not all bad but it has areas that requre remedial work. First the good bits: the room we had ( ground floor)was well designed and larger than most of its competitors, very clean and all the staff were helpful but... ( see later) there is adequate off road parking and , apart from some loutish guests, its fabulously quiet with just the sweet country sounds of birdsong and the occaisional rooster. Not so good is the shower, which reminded me of an iconic Amsterdam statue. The decor is tired and shabby both inside and out and then theres the internet......its virtually non existent. Despite continuous complaints to various members of staff , I was given anodyne platitudes that it would be sorted out. In the four days we were there , there was no improvement. okay there's always the personal hot spot but if you advertise free internet it's not unreasonable for your guests to expect it. We did not eat here so cannot comment
Clearly undergoing a much needed refurb. We had no complaints. The spa is lovely and new and couldn't fault it. Our room was satisfactory. The best thing the hotel have got is their staff. They're lovely and only too happy to help. As a place to crash for a quick stop it's fine. Not somewhere you'd go for a break really.
Just finished a 2 night break at this hotel with my partner. It was our first time staying here and this hotel did not disappoint. Room was lovely and spacious and lovely inside. The grounds were beautiful, we sat outside and had some lunch and a glass of Prosecco which was lovely. We also visited the spa and had treatments. The spa was absolutely gorgeous and was so impressed with how modern it all was and how nice the facilities were. Would really recommend the flotation pool which was amazing!! Also the facials that we had were so relaxing. We would defiantly visit again. Great hotel, great facilities and great management. Thanks so much to Kate and Lucy who were excellent and great customer service during our stay :)
I advise you don't stay. It's not worth the money, it's not a luxury spa break at all. I thought it had shut down when we arrived as it is so run down. It's grubby and old. But, the room we stayed in was clean and freshly painted. No air-con and windows that wouldn't stay open for ventilation. The spa treatment was the saving grace. The therapist Gabby is amazing. We had use of the facilities but the jacuzzi or experience showers not working. Staff were pleasant though, just not enough of them!
Our room was huge which was great as we needed the space for our babys cot etc. We also had a fantastic view our over the gardens. The bed was comfortable and we had a peaceful night's sleep. The breakfast was delicious and the staff very tentative. Special thanks to Lucie for making us feel so welcome.
Family were visiting and staying in the hotel, the general manager was more than helpful and staff sorted it so I could have breakfast with them in the morning. Lovely food and great service from our waitress Lucie Sara
Stayed for 1 night, the room was very spacious and clean! breakfast was lovely with great service. The general manager Kate was a massive help giving a tour of the spa facilities and booking us in. loved the pool! Will be visiting again soon
This hotel is absolutely disgusting! The food was horrible the spa smelt of urine, the room was dirty, phone didn't work, it was like a run down care home!! Staff were rude and not helpful at all, wasn't shown where anything was! Avoid!
Visited the new gym and pool facilities and was impressed. The changing rooms are newly refurbished so are nice and clean! The gym has new equipment too. The staff were very helpful and accommodating!
Spent the afternoon in the new flotation pool yesterday - what an incredible relaxing experience. Upon arrival to departure the customer service was outstanding ensuring that I had a great time. These brand new facilities at the hotel also feature a mud treatment chamber which I'm looking forward to trying next time. Everything is immaculately clean and pristine. I would urge you all to try this out at this outstanding hotel.
The girls on reception were lovely, friendly and helpful, the hotel was spacious and the rooms clean and of a good size. The facilities were of a good standard, by one issue was getting out the shower due to the location of the glass partition.
The gym and pool facilities where very clean, sanitiser available everywhere. Very easy to book a slot to use the facilities Hotel and spa staff where very friendly and helpful Would recommend to everyone
I arrived at the hotel and was given my room key quickly by the nice girl on reception. I ordered a vegan breakfast. I went to my car later and overheard the office staff talking about the vegan items for the breakfast. I told them not to worry about it but they were prepared to source the vegan items, this to me is priceless, a hotel willing to go the extra mile for a customer. I stay in hotels every night through out the week and I dont often see this kind of service. The radiator in my room was making a noise so I reported to reception and they moved my room. Also I was having problems with the WiFi connection. The reception gave me a password and I'm now connected. I really don't mind things going wrong and it's all about how it's dealt with. The staff are a credit to this hotel and could not have been more helpful. True customer service I thought was dead until I arrived here. I hope the staff are given credit for how they treat their customers. I don't get this level of service in the Ritz or the Dorchester which are expensive hotels in our capital.
5 Star's simply isn't enough! Warm and friendly staff, from the manager, to reception clerk and even the cleaner! Warm and bright Radient smiles that light up the building! Nothing asked seemed to be too much trouble, very accommodating and extremely helpful. Not the first time I've stayed and it certainly won't be the last, can't recommend this place enough. Excellent all round service!
I stay here 2 or 3 nights a week, most weeks. I have always had decent food. They do gluten free off menu dishes for me as I am coeliac. The staff are great, amazingly friendly and always helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are generally big. The beds comfy and it's quiet. I don't understand negative reviews. It's good value, the facilities are good and I've never had a bad room. Access to Ipswich is easy. It's a good place to stay.
Attended a meeting here. Tables sticky, dirty, awful place. Smelt like it had not been cleaned. Room cold. Definitely not Covid secure. Dread to think what it's like to stay there! Sorry Best Western.
Stated here for 2 nights, Kate on reception was very professional checking me in, went through all the covid rules in place, explained very clearly on how breakfast was being served. Really friendly staff throughout my stay, and it was very peaceful and quiet surroundings. The room was excellent, and had an email the day before asking if I wanted to upgrade room at ní extra charge, excellent communication and felt at home. Highly recommend, and Kate is a great ambassador to the hotel
Never use this place.... Stayed here for work for 1 night 19th April 2021. ROOM: The room was big which was OK. I turned on the massive TV but could only get blank or pixelated channels. Phoned reception at around 6:00 pm and was told there would send someone in a few minutes. at 7:30 pm when my food arrived at my room the waiter had a quick look then said he would get maintenance.......they never showed up so I had no TV all night so had to use my phone for entertainment. Went to use the shower. The water was only a trickle as was leaking from behind the spray head so turned the spray setting ring, This was only slightly better so turned it again, only for the spray head to fall off. I managed to get it back on enough to have a shower. When I entered room I thought a radio was on quietly. Turned out to be the radiator. Got in bed, light off but all I could hear was a noisy radiator...sound of water rushing through the pipe which kept me awake most of the night. FOOD: Food was ordered to room from reception as requested. Had the 6oz bacon cheese burger with lettuce & tomato with chips & coleslaw. I asked for a plain burger, no tomato or lettuce. The burger came with sliced tomato & onions so took them off. Was surprised that no sauce came with the meal (only salt, pepper & vinegar). Too a bite out the burger only to find thick tomato burger relish on bottom of bun, not liking tomato I ended up scraping off & eating without the roll. Desert was supposed to be chocolate brownie with ice cream & choc sauce. The brownie looked like someone had trodden on it. It was about 5mm thick & had rice Crispies in for some reason & was burnt on bottom .I managed a couple of bites and left the rest. The glass of Coke i ordered was flat. The food was included in my companies payment or it would of gone straight back. Breakfast...ordered on arrival was a sandwich with either sausage/bacon/egg as requested ( I had sausage & bacon), a tiny piece of what looked like flapjack, an apple & a small bottle of water. This was left outside your room. Again, no sauce to go with my sandwich so it was too dry. Again had a couple of bites and left the rest. CONCLUSION: No TV, unless you take your own device. No shower unless you can fix it yourself. Noisy radiator when trying to sleep. Order take out.
Recently visited the new spa and leisure facilities here and it was incredible. The pool was nice to relax in, enjoyed sitting in the lounge area by it too. Also used the gym which had everything needed for a little workout. When I came through hotel reception, I was greeted by the General Manager, she was really friendly, we had a good laugh. I also had a bite to eat (outside of course) the sandwich I had was incredible! 100% recommend here again.
Collected our takeaway Sunday roast yesterday. Big portions, meat was tender, six different vegetables, lovely gravy served in a separate container. Meals remained hot for quite some time so no need to reheat. Excellent value for money and compliments to the Chef. Great way to have a Sunday lunch without the work! Will be returning but also looking forward to your reopening and enjoying the Carvery again.
We have just had the most excellent afternoon tea at the hotel. A good number and selection of sandwiches with tasty fillings and also sausage rolls and pigs in blankets! The scones, we think, had cranberries in them and the cakes were a great festive selection of mince pie, Yule log and a mulled berry trifle. The menu said the trifle was in a shot glass, but was actually in a small tumbler glass which made it even better. We had the extra glass of fizz and the pots of tea were a very good size. Overall an excellent tea with good festive theming and very good value for money. Service was discreet but very good and friendly.
The bathroom was dirty and despite asking at check-in about whether breakfast was in clued in the rate (which it was) neither of the check in staff told us we needed to pre order with them there and then. There was no breakfast available therefore in the morning. Also the staff had not cleaned and changed over the “sanitised” and “used” pens at reception.
Booked into hotel. Staff were friendly. Went up to our superior double room.the bed had been changed as the headboard was for a kingsize looked out if sorts. It was at back of hotel thought yes it will be nice and quiet .... creaky floors . The room was hot but we had fans. The rooms next to us were playing in and out the rooms till around 1am then the big extractor fan outside started. So not much sleep. When we went down for breakfast. It was what would you like. There was no menu so has to ask what was available. I realise boris is saying lockdown from Thursday and it will affect you but .....I have stayed in a few best western hotels and I am sorry to say this fell short of the normal expectations.
The place is very tired looking, but it is cheap, it is clean, apart from the car park. The many restrictions that are in place at present, were being observed. The staff are friendly, if sometimes rather hard to track down. The best thing is the amazing breakfast, it is really very, very good. Not cheap and nasty ingredients, and plenty of everything. For a one night stay in the area We highly recommend.
Business trip required a stop near Ipswich and this hotel fitted the bill. Nothing too exciting about the place, bedroom was average but with everything needed for a single night. COVID measures in place and obvious. Staff very pleasant and friendly despite the restrictions. Dining area all correctly socially distanced tables and staff wearing PPE. Full English breakfast and coffee ordered and appeared without delay. Would stay here again if it was only for a night-stop.
Second visit to this hotel,it suits us fine,a bit dated but has all you need in these troubled times. We had a limited menu for dinner but had something we liked.Breakfast is superb, two of everything its an effort to get through it all, next morning my wife and I asked for one of everything! The guy on reception,Paul, was the general dogsbody bless him, receptionist, barman and waiter. Rooms are dated and were chilly as no control over the heating in the rooms, great shower and an iron and hairdryer are provided. Will stay again and special thanks to Paul who looked after us on our two night stay.
The place from the outside looks like a prison of some sorts and whilst the reception is fine, the staff were friendly there's a MAJOR massive issue with the building. Every single footstep you make sets off a cacophony of creaks as the floorboards are old and knackered, if the person in the floor above me so much as shifted their feet on the floor, the entire sound went through my room. Additionally no sound proofing whatsoever as I could hear every single word they spoke about (and they were drinking) I just can't recommend this place as you'll never get any sleep.
The staff at the "Best Western - Ipswich" are brilliant and will help with any issue. The general Manager is always around and very friendly. The cooked breakfasts were superb. The room and bed were very comfortable. The location is perfect for exploring the area and this hotel provides very easy access to the major routes without any of the traffic congestion associated with staying in a city centre but you really do need to have a car to make the most of it. Huge free car park. Nothing really not to like.
Cannot understand some of the negative reviews. We were a little apprehensive about staying in an hotel in the current climate. We needn't have worried, everything was faultless. Great location, excellent value, superb breakfasts and staff going the extra mile. We stayed for four days and would thoroughly recommend.
Have stayed here a number of times and used to enjoy it. Over the last year or so it's really gone down hill. Stayed here last night, was disappointed breakfast wasn't being served even though I paid for it through Hotel.com. Masks are required in lobby which is fine, plenty of hand sanitizer available in lobby. Considering they had made efforts for Covid I was surprised my room was as dirty as it was, especially the bathroom. Not exactly hotels fault but I was kept awake until nearly 5am thanks to the people above me arguing. I would have complained at check out but desk unmanned. Will not return again.
We have stayed at this hotel a few times this year for a lengthy stay and the staff are all wonderful and very accommodating. Always smiling and happy to help. During the pandemic it means for the hotel a shortage in staff but this has not stopped the workers. They all do a wonderful job. We would return and we would recommend. We stayed in a lovely room that was so spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the carvery a couple of times during our stay and 10/10 it was cooked to perfection and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Kate and the team we applaud you, your all doing great. Look forward to returning and seeing you all soon. All the best :) V & A
Whilst fully understanding Covid-19 limitations the manager and all her tightly knit team did all they could to make us feel welcome and safe. This lasted from check in and dinner on the first night through to breakfast on the third morning of our stay.
A really nice hotel with easy access to Ipswich centre. It offers very comfortable rooms but the hotel itself would benefit from a little TLC as it is looking a little tired and outdated, but is extremely good value for money
I booked a week here partly for work and partly for leisure. Given the Covid 19 restrictions and reduced staffing they provided excellent service and I was so pleased with the stay here I booked another week. I would certainly recommend the hotel. The price for a week was excellent. There was a limited food offering and reduced staffing but it worked well enough for me. The staff couldn't be more helpful delivering service over and above what I expect from hotels nowadays.
The staff are very polite and professional, the hotel is very clean and tidy, but it was the worst hotel stay I've ever had..... Room 220 (superior) - The road noise is very very loud, the smoke detector above the bed has a strobe light that goes off every 5 seconds, more water comes out the side of the shower head than the front, outside the window (on ledge) is hundreds of cigarette ends, the bed is like a trampoline and the faults just continue... If a reply says “did you tell reception”, then they clearly haven't heard of quality control! I'll tell reception for the odd fault, but there's a limit - we left after just one terrible night... A trusted Best Western, never again.
We have stayed at this hotel over quite a few years and have to say it is need of a refurbishment. Luckily we arrived quite late so did not have long here. Carpet had not been vacuumed ,cobwebs in corners, bathroom very shabby and no shower gel etc. A lot of noise from people arriving back late and door outside slamming plus people on grass below chatting into the early hours. Must say that breakfast you could not fault took a while to arrive but probably one chef and only 2 serving, the breakfast was lovely and hot and cooked well unlike when it was help yourself. Probably we had a lower grade room as only paid 50.00 but we were surprised how it all needs a good clean as shabby now.
This has got to be the worst hotel I've stayed in for a long time. 6 of us came to Ipswich to visit family and 1 night here was definitely enough. It was clear as soon as we got there that this hotel is severely understaffed, with one poor woman running everything alone on the hottest weekend this year! The room my boyfriend and I were given had not been cleaned since the last guests left, the place was filthy which considering the importance of sanitising during this pandemic we think it is ridiculous to have an uncleaned room. My dad went down to complain and we got changed to a different room. My parents had paid for 3 double rooms but our room had a significantly smaller bed to the others but they still paid the same amount for it which I don't understand. We went to ask for more pillows and towels and after getting back from dinner they had still not arrived, luckily the night shift receptionist was a very helpful man and sorted the issue immediately. Once finally getting to sleep we were welcomed to a fire alarm going off at 3am which my heavily pregnant sister in law did not appreciate. The windows in our room were also a safety hazard seen as there was nothing in place to stop you falling out, not very family friendly at all. Ultimately, we were all very glad to leave the next morning and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
We have stayed at a variety of best western hotels but this is by far the worst. We arrived and the receptionist answered my hi with "name" not a good start, we had booked earlier that day for dinner in the restaurant and had it confirmed to be told it wasn't open and we could have food in our room or in the bar. We were given the key to our room which when we walked in smelled like stale tobacco so back down to reception, no apology, given another room. It was ok ish but only had one towel folded on the bed and two used towels hanging on the bathroom door. I took them downstairs and they sent up a fresh one. We overlooked the hair in the bath and the paper cups for tea and the dust on every surface but then realised there was no bath or shower gel. They had run out! Make your own mind up but definitely not up to best western standards
Having recently having stayed here! I can honestly say that my partner and I had a wonderful stay. The staff_: chefs/chamber ladies/bar staff are pleasant professional and a joy to deal with! Kate Sewell in particular was exceptional in looking after Andy and myself in the beautifully appointed dining room. Our amazing chef made me exceptional whitebait and haddock in our first evening! Andy and I really enjoyed our traditional English breakfast complete with black pudding. Paul our friendly barman was lovely. Brenda our gorgeous chamber lady was delightful. The dining room is surrounded by lovely lawns and a walled garden. The hotel was very reasonable and comfortable. In particular Ipswich hotels have parking issues. Loads of parking here large Tesco here for provisions. I am so looking forward to meeting Frank Bruno before Christmas! My sister her husband Tony and Andy and I plus my Father are so looking to our pre Christmas treat!!!!! It is my new favourite guilty pleasure! Give this lovely little gem of a place a try. Really good value for money. My friends and I are looking forward to coming to visit within the next month.
Had to attend a funeral in Ipswich. The hotel was ideally situated. The grounds were pleasant and the room was clean and functional. Staff were very good and made me feel welcome. Would stay again if needed to.
Me and my husbands stayed for a night and what a lovely stay it was. We was greeted by a lovely lady on reception who was very polite and helpful. The room was lovely and clean and all items sanitised. Felt very at ease and really enjoyed our stay.
stayed here as I was working in the area, first time staying away since returning back to work felt totally at ease with all the measures hotel has put in place.Bedroom was clean items in the room had been sanitised would definitely stay again
most furniture very tired. broken lights bulbs flickering or barely on at all. Wall lights not working. tv remote didn't work . rooms smelt like death thr smell was actually over powering bathroom filthy
Ok where to start first checked in the lady at the front said room had just been cleaned after having no one stay in it for almost 3 months and yet the room still had the same sheets I bet before lockdown as I found a black pube on the pillows and the food is so overpriced 13 £ for a lasagna and chips the food tasted like it was made 3 months ago and just put in the microwave so not worth the price at all ...
This was a fantastic experience for the whole family and we are so pleased that we picked Ipswich Best Western. The room was great, the breakfast yummy and the staff were amazing- they went out of their way to make our stay memorable!
Dirty and Scruffy - need a total overhaul or knocking down and starting again dirt all over the floor and hairs on the bathroom floor as well as a dirty toilet !!! Staff were ok, beer and breakfast were good although everything was in different random places
We held our annual Presentation Evening at the Ipswich hotel on Saturday 29th February. The Suffolk suite was an ideal venue for the numbers involved, the room was very nicely decorated and the food was good. Feedback from all attending is that enjoyed it!!
Pleasant one night stay but place could have done with a Hoover everywhere and in our room. Got an unexpected upgrade but did not see much different. Brekkie was ok. Receptionist was pretty and very chatty. Tea coffee milk was sparse.
I was in room 203 last week, room 206 this week. Very convenient for my work and the bed, breakfast and evening meal good value. Two buckets in the foyer last week to catch the rain water was not the welcome I was expecting. But my biggest grumble is the evening menu which seems to be written in a tablet of stone. Lacking a specials board nothing changed in my 2 week stay, not even the soup. Must be boring for the chef let alone the customers. Come on guys, please spice things up.
Stayed at this hotel many times. Had a few issues in the past but this time the hotel room was excellent and good breakfast. Stayed for an evening seminar and the buffet was excellent quality. Breakfast was good and the room was very spacious and clean.
Attended a bowls dinner the venue was lovely and clean. The bar was well stocked all the Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was excellent and exceptional value my wife's dietary requirements were met without any problems. Would definitely recommend
We chose the hotel because it provided good value and good location to explore the coast. The hotel is incredibly dated and in need of urgent upgrade, with very tired decor, very tired rooms and very old appliances, furnitures, etc... However staff was very helpful and polite, bed was very comfortable and had lovely sleep. So it is a great place if you just want a place to sleep. Wifi was great, breakfast was nothing to shout about, with a lot of stuff running out, some very sad looking pastries and generally nothing exceptional, but nothing too bad either.
Decided to have a night here for valentines for a bit of peace and quiet and to chill. Firstly the price was very reasonable and we got upgraded to a superior room. Secondly the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The waitress Summer was very nice and chatty and the food was really good and again reasonably priced. Room was comfortable and clean . Definitely going back .
Our room was 309 upstairs, to start with every where you walked in the room the floor board's squeaked which got very annoying in the end. Our curtain was coming off so didn't close properly, and what can I say about the view as you can see in the picture. The room was so hot we tried to undo a window but couldn't, there was also aloose tile in the bathroom which was dangerous, I reported these to the receptionist next morning who said she would report it to the maintenance team, she also said that the windows do not open anyway. No apology was given which I was disappointed as we have stayed here recently and had a lovely room that's why we booked again.
Great food..not staying in hotel..been here several times for lunch . don't think that this is expensive..very reasonable extremely friendly service..huge menu ..have had breakfast here wonderful for £10
Spent Christmas Day here with the family and had a lovely dinner, came back again for New Years Eve celebrations with a party of 10 and had a fantastic night, food was delicious, music was excellent and the staff were brilliant. We also stayed the night and brought our dog. Rooms are clean and comfy although bathroom and shower could do with an update. We also returned 2 weeks later to celebrate my Dads 75th birthday, we hired the constable suite and had a sit down meal for 40 people, again the food was delicious and the staff were brilliant. A huge thank you to the chef and the staff for making everything so special but a special thank you to Kate for dealing with all our needs and making sure all went to plan and for clearing up all our mess on nye. We will definitely return as we also love the Sunday lunches.
Being a returning guest for the Christmas party night just had to say what a great time we had, the venue is perfect for bringing a large group of friends together, we meet in mid afternoon in the bar for drinks with bar food on offer if you want. We all go to change and meet back before going through to the main all joining some of the other revellers. The food is good and always hot well done to cater for so many people. The party goes on till 1am. The next morning breakfast is included in your room and is all good. A big thank you to Kate and her team.
We used a room for a teaching day that we has set for our staff, it was fine. Good amount of room heat was controlled, lighting was good, the Tea and Coffee was alright. Overall no issues, would use again.
An afternoon tea booked as a treat for a mum who deserves the best was a disgusting disaster. Rude unhelpful staff, miss matched crockery, stale sandwiches, mouldy cake, cream that was off and a cheese scone that had a whole clove in it - not that any of the staff knew what a clove was. A chef who didn't understand or spear to speak English was dragged out. The area was cold the cake stand was dirty. They then offered us to go through the whole horrible process again which to avoid anymore upset we said we would go back the following week. When I called to politely advise them that we would not return I was assured that this was not normal and the Manager would call me, this has never happened. Stay away, not an experience I would want anyone else to go through. Yuk
Excellent food, venue, service and parking. Staff were all very friendly. We were a large group and everything appeared to flow seamlessly. Very good choices of food and reasonably priced. Will certainly go again.
My large group were very well looked after and was excellent value for money. The location suited us being on the outskirts of Ipswich. The staff were very helpful and considerate of our needs. This was certainly good value for money and we would certainly go back again.
This is the sixth time we have organised a Christmas networking dinner event and the help we are given gets better! Everything we ask for is provided and any misunderstandings are dealt with promptly and cheerfully. Have already booked for 2020.
Visited twice during the Xmas period as Father Christmas made Sunday lunch time visits. As always, the service came with a smile. Nothing was to much to ask for. Carvery was good in a very relaxed atmosphere. Will be frequenting this year again with family. Keep up the good work Allen
We booked very last minute for NYE party, since I have an allergy we thought it might be a nightmare for them to accommodate at short notice but totally the opposite! We booked Monday NY was on Tuesday we went to the hotel, the chef came out walked through my (very complicated allergy) and 10mins later we had a menu just for me. We didn't really know what to expect on the night but it was really good. Started with a drinks reception then we went into the main room had our own table, with our friends, in fact everyone did which was really nice rather than being stuck on big tables with strangers. The room looked good and was well decorated and best of all my food was yummy (makes a total change for me as usually I end up with something really bland) so big thank you to the chef. The band was good and the event very well organised. Would recommend for people with allergies and for people looking for something to do for a a special occasion.
Me and my sister attended the Christmas Day Carvery at the Hotel in the Suffolk Suite. and what a fantastic experience we had the food was excellent and service was great we had a lovely table by the christmas tree making it feel vey special as we had never been away for lunch before. We highly recomend the Hotel for a special occassion such as this. And have all ready started to look at this christmas lunch with hopefully more family members.
Came to the carvery for Christmas lunch with elderly parents and son. Wine was preordered and brought to the table as we sat. There was a lovely atmosphere in the room and it was a very nice temperature to sit in a blouse. The bar staff (Lucy) coped very well considering the numbers. The starters were amazing, 2 had the salmon which was really nice and a very big portion. My mother had the pear and parsnip soup which was to die for, parsnip chips and very tasty. I had the goats cheese mousse with beetroot and it was stunning looked pretty and tasted better. Eve and Dan made sure we were comfortable at all stages of the meal. The chef serving the carvery done an amazing job on her own. The meats were tender and there was plenty of selection on the vegetables think we had 4 different ones, crispy roasts and Yorkshires and gravy were plentiful. Lovely pigs-in-blankets too. Onto the favourite course. Dessert. Chocolate terrine enjoyed by 3 and i had the Eton mess, rhubarb and ginger. Totally awesome and would have gone back for more if I could. After talking to another customer she had the ginger left out at her request but I loved the little bits bringing a surprise to the odd mouthful. Tea and coffee was available at the end of the meal along with the must have mince pie. Would I go again. YES. Well worth the money. All staff friendly and nothing to much trouble. Well done on making Christmas so special.
Lack of staff meant waiting ages to get served for drinks , only 2 staff on the bar trying to serve over 100 people. Food service was slow 7.30 start stated on party menus actually served our starters at 8.30. Then the same 2 bar staff had to try & clear all the tables ready for the main course which arrived a good 40 minutes later. Only 1 bowl of vegetables swimming in water per table of 8 adults also main content of bowl was Brussels sprouts. Very outdated , not well managed or organised will not be wasting money going back.
excellent friendly hotel breakfast superb parking ample my only complaint was the room was too warm had to open window mid winter the parking is right outside ,lovely quiet bar area on outskirts of town so very quiet
Understaffed, clean rooms but need redecorating. Food wasn't great and menu needs more information as to what is on offer. Felt we were just a number. Wasn't friendly atmosphere unfortunately. Front desk should have had someone who knew about the hotel but because of being understaffed he wasn't being shadowed. He didn't know where our room was or where we had to eat our meals.
The meal was very nice, the table set out well, with festive napkins and streamers etc - the bedroom was everything you want for an overnight stay: clean and comfortable, decent bathroom - the breakfast buffet had a choice of dishes.
Rooms were very comfortable, staff were polite and friendly, food in restaurant excellent. Not the most up market hotel, but for a night or two, it's good. It was a little difficult to get to, thank heavens for the day nav
It was clean and was in a perfect location for me . The High Speen Internet was not working, so I couldn't connect to the wifissuend to do my paperwork. The staff were lovely and friendly. Bed was comfortable and nice bug pillows.
Me and a couple friends came to the hotel for a party and we both really enjoyed the night. Very clean hotel, The bar staff were amazing and done really well with getting everyone there drinks. Amazing night well done to all the team.
Yet again this hotel was wonderful from start, Thank you Olivia @ reception, to finish. This hotel really does 'Think of it ALL' They put their heart & soul in to making your stay with them 100% in every way. Our room was perfect , huge !!!! Nicely decorated , warm along with fresh & airy , lovely toiletries in bathroom , nice tea , coffee kettle etc , hairdryer , 'Home from Home' #Perfect (our bed was massive & very comfortable too) All of the staff at this hotel are so , naturally, friendly & helpful & they work so hard at all times & always with a smile. Our evening meal was delicious , service great too & breakfast Wonderful . All very fresh , local tasty food. Bars have a large selection of wines , spirits, beers etc @ very reasonable prices AGAIN, ALL in all I LOVE THIS HOTEL & all it does & has to offer , here's to our next visit, Thank you all @ The Ipswich Hotel
We were a family party of five just returning from an "Excellent weekend break" at the Best Western Ipswich Hotel" Check in was a breeze with a huge smile from Kelsey the receptionist. All our rooms were spacious and extremely clean with lots of tea/coffee/hot chocolate & biscuits. Wi-Fi was strong all over the hotel. After settling in we all toddled off to a local pub called the Brooke Inn for a very yummy lunch. We were on a Superbreaks deal with DB&B with chocolates and wine included. On the first night we enjoyed pre dinner drinks in the bar served by the extremely attentive Shaun then had dinner served in the spacious restaurant. On the second evening we were again spoiled by the lovely Summer & Jack who were our servers. The food on both evenings was delicious with lots of choices for everyone's taste. A big thankyou to Andrew & Kate the manager who could not do enough for us. Finally, a mention to Holly in reception who was extremely sweet and also made check out a breeze. Well done "The Best Western Ipswich Hotel" we will be back.
The poor bits: Bed very uncomfantable, you roll to the middle of the bed the shower does not work very well. Toilet difficult to flush, does not flush very well. Good bits Staff very helpful. Food was outstanding Second visit this year, same problems
There was about 30 of us stayed for 2 nights for a wedding so many of us were up very late. The late bar staff were amazing. We then got up 9am for Rugby World Cup semi finals and the breakfast and bar staff were amazing again and deserve a commendation from their management. The staff really did enhance the quality of our experience at BW Ipswich.
With its good value for money friendly staff spotless rooms and excellent breakfast there is really nothing to criticise about this hotel I would certainly recommend staying here if you require accommodation in the Ipswich area
Stayed overnight with Travel Zoo Deal. 3 course meal, bottle of Prosecco; box chocolates plus Breakfast in the morning. Young man who served us our meal on Friday evening was very good. Friendly & polite. Reception staff very good & helpful. Meal was delicious & great bar. Spotlessly clean. Credit to the staff. Would have preferred shower cubicle rather than over bath. Not keen on shower curtains or having to stand on old bath mat. Overall stay was fab & would definitely recommend. We stayed in Room 102 & had best nights sleep. Well done BW
Stayed overnight for work. The room was spacious, the staff were very friendly and attentive to my needs. Had room service, the service was prompt and the food very tasty. Would stay again when I am back in Ipswich.
Very friendly plenty of parking great breakfast Romeo Dunn dj was playing so it was very busy we weren't there for that but was very quiet outside considering the time it finished so we'll organized didn't hear any noise and we were close to the venue
Attended an event and stayed for one night. Event organization was 1st class. hotel staff friendly and approachable. excellently led by Kate Room very clean and comfortable with all you need for a enjoyable stay tea, coffee, hairdryer etc. Many thanks
20 if us stayed here for the evening for a local gala dinner. Perfect position just off the A12, excellent friendly service room was spotless bar area spotless. Breakfast was delicious huge choices first class food Thank you so much to all at the hotel x
On arrival the Hotel entrance was covered in muddy footprints- our room 110 was in need of redecoration - the bathroom was dirty the sink didn't drain quickly the WC was in need of a good bleaching - the bath needed a good clean. On a positive note the bed was comfortable. All the defects were reported to reception in writing but no actIon was taken by the hotel. The Hotel displays a 4 star “AA” accreditation was I think is out of date.
The building is now a little tired but the rooms are clean and comfortable. Well-stocked tea/coffee facilities and a nice "welcome" gift of cakes from Brenda in housekeeping. The check-in was fast & easy, reception clean & welcoming. Plumbing is noisy when running a bath & flushing could be better. Toilet paper was poor quality (enough said!) Toiletries provided.Difficult to fill kettle from washbasin. Bed was comfortable, adequate hanging wardrobe space, drawers & open shelves. There was a low noise from, maybe, a boiler system but it was not obtrusive. The bar area was clean & comfortable with friendly, courteous staff. The roof over the entrance steps leaked heavily during rainstorms. (Currently there are roadworks on the London Road and many of the access gaps are closed) Overall, good value for money & friendly staff.
We booked this hotel for the Ed Sheeran concert weekend. Nice small hotel with grounds in a lovely road. Room spacious, clean and comfortable which is all you need. Limited parking. Good breakfast selection of hot and cold food. Overall good and we would stay again.
A superb hotel. Warm welcome, delightfully staff, delicious dinner, lovely room, very clean. Top recommendation. Other benefits; easy parking, good location, tea and coffee facilities, biscuits included, all rooms en-suite.
Originally dumped in a smelly shed at the back of the car park (701). Not fit for a dog. Then after being given a double when we asked for a twin we were 3rd time lucky with a ground floor room in the main building. Staff very helpful but why not offer a decent room to start with. Restaurant was acceptable with good ‘pub grub' rather than fine dining. Looking a bit tired in places but overall not too bad for the cost.
We stayed here for the 2nd time and wouldn't go anywhere else when we visit Ipswich. The staff are so friendly especially Kelsey who goes out of her way to help and make sure you have an excellent holiday
Wonderful stay , lovely rooms, food amazing, staff very friendly and most helpful. New chef Adrian very helpful Manager Kate outstanding, staff Paul and Eve couldn't do enough for us service excellent.Hotel very clean. Decided to hold daughter's wedding there next year.
We stayed this weekend to taste the menu we have chosen for our wedding. Kate and her team did a great job over the weekend. The new head chef who had been there less than week was a really nice guy and the food was fabulous. Really looking forward to having our wedding here. All 6 of us were really impressed with the quality of the food. The breakfast was lovely as well.
We stayed here this weekend as we were visiting friends, was very dubious about staying after reading some of the reviews but I have to say I think they are very harsh. I agree that there are areas which are looking tired but our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff are a credit nothing is too much trouble and a lovely touch that we were called after check in to make sure everything was okay with our room. Breakfast was good with a large choice. We will definitely stay here again.
Another dated Best Western! No double glazing, only old, dirty secondary glazing that took two people to slide it closed in order to stop noise from dual carriageway 10 mtrs away! Only 3 cars in car park and only 2 at dinner, so why put us in rooms facing road at all? Why not give us rooms at rear overlooking beer garden?? Bath dated and needed TLC, shower over bath was pathetic. Never seen toilet paper SO thin! Worst of all was the food - the dinner was so bad we were given one meal free. Breakfast was just as bad-we walked in at 08:01 only to find hot food had been under the lights for so long that everything was totally dried out. Dug down and managed to find some baked beans still edible and put them on a piece of toast!! Had more fruit and cereal! Staff could not get WiFi to connect at all on either of our (new) mobiles. Hardly any mobile signal from O2 or EE here either - that didn't help. Did not appreciate American rock blaring out over dinner, fighting to compete with the footy reviews on the big screens - all just a racket!
Stayed in separate block near carpark.room freezing Heating - was told couldn't put heating on cause maintenance man had the key at home !! Offered a quilt.not what I wanted when I wanted to sit and watch tv in a chair.didnt wanna sit in bed.rang first time told heating be sorted. No heaters to give out I Rang bk an hr later to be told sorry cant switch it on .( surely a call bk would have helped ) . It's not been on all week !!! Looks run down middle of a bypass nothing close by unless u have transport
Our room wasn't cleaned over the course of our two day stay. Breakfast was £8 - £12 and the eggs were grey... They initially messed up our room and then moved us to one with a broken TV. (Wonky on the wall). We paid over £180 for two nights for a superior double.. we got two single bed shoved together... disappointing from start to finish for what we paid. This was a budget hotel, pretending to be a premium.
Stake bread used for sandwiches. Short staffed as barman doing food in kitchen too. Receptionist argued that we had to pay when we had a package deal already paid for by friends. Felt like we were in prison as not allowed to leave. No apology sent. Staff were having a party in the garden making lots of noise so got no sleep. Other guests said the same. Would not recommend this hotel
We stayed 4 nights at this hotel which was located some way out of Ipswich, fortunately we were previously aware of this beforehand. The room was pleasant but dated & the bathroom certainly needed upgrading - the toilet did not flush properly among other things. After the first night's stay, the room was not replenished, however, this could have been because we did not put the Make Room Up sign ?? Nevertheless, as we had no coffee/milk, I asked Reception for supplies which were handed over in silence! The reception staff & Dining Room staff would benefit from a training course on Communication skills and Hospitality which were definitely not evident during our stay. Courtesy & manners were non-existent in this hotel, a prerequisite I would think in the competative Hospitality industry. I have previously stayed at 4 Best Western hotels and have always been entirely satisfied and enjoyable.
Stayed here a few times and great location whilst working around Ipswich and Colchester. The hotel is located about 2 miles from the A14. Lounge/ restaurant is fine with the usual hotel menu. The room I had was spacious and even at the front of the hotel it was very quiet. Only slight downside was the internet reception, stop start issues. Also, hotel has BT sport, not in the room but in the bar.
Awful food. I attended a Summer Ball held for a social club for special needs adults. Food was appalling. The vegetables were hard, almost unpalatable. I had a "dumpling" which was more like a rock cake and that's not an exaggeration. The hotel should hang their heads in shame. If i held ac wedding reception here i would be mortified.
Myself and husband booked for one night for the Ed Sheeran concert, we booked a superior room it was run down and not even clean it was far from superior.lots of spiders, shower dirty. I did complain on checkout and was just told sorry I will let housekeeping know not good enough when you paid over £200 for 1 night!
I didn't like the room at all. Some dated fittings and the shower was poor. You know a hotel doesnt have money when the TV is barely 28 inches. The room was also very hot (during 1st september) so I couldn't sleep well at all. Also the walls were thin, and people coming at 1am drunk were making noise.
This is a poor hotel- there is no ventilation and the rooms were incredibly hot and stuffy- so we opened the double window and I wish we hadn't- there were so many dead insects and cobwebs in between the two windows and the windows themselves looked like they haven't been cleaned since the hotel was built. The shower has no pressure and neither did the flush on the toilet- our mattress was too big for the bed base so the mattress sloped around the sides- the food is not good, the wine resembles vinegar and the 'rola cola' was flat. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
Well placed hotel. Welcoming and efficient staff at the reception. Good bar and restaurant, once again friendly and efficient staff. Good food. Comfortable room at an excellent price. We were lucky enough to have an upgrade, which included tea/coffee facilities - perhaps more than one tea sachet and one packet of biscuits for two would have been more appropriate. On the negative, our remote control for the TV didn't work. Appears to have been vandalised. We requested a replacement, which we were assured would work - it didn't. We gave up - an evening without TV isn't the end of the world. Overall a pleasant stay.
Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, great food with a large selection for breakfast. Clean hotel with easy access, with a lovely outdoor area adjacent to the bar. Ideal for families. Hotel decor is a little tired - however does everything you need.
We stayed at this hotel after booking to go to the Ed Sheeran concert at Chantry Park. The staff couldn't have been more helpful both before and during the trip and this was a real positive. At first glance the hotel itself looks ok. However, it really needs some improvement. The windows were rusty and almost impossible to open, toilets wouldn't flush without multiple attempts at getting the handles to work, not just a problem in our room but from noises from adjoining rooms a more widespread issue. The room was clean though the sink, bath and toilet looked stained. Really hot and stuffy room with no air con or fan provided. Arrived back at the hotel near midnight, got into bed and found a spring about an inch long sticking though the mattress, protector and sheet. It was too late to get anything done about it and we knew the hotel was full, but had little sleep as it was about shoulder level and I kept catching it during the night. The staff were very apologetic the next morning, but it was hard to believe housekeeping hadn't noticed it while changing the bed. Breakfast was good and excellent value and again the staff were polite and very helpful. A real mixed bag.
Stayed here two days ago, dated entrance hall, rooms were okay and clean as was the bathroom but dinner was dire. I had noodles with 'fresh vegetables' and a side salad - the vegetables were aubergine and courgette in some sort of sauce, funnily enough the same gloopy sauce that came with my daughter's chicken madras curry. My side salad was a few chopped leaves, and peppers ready dressed with a dressing. The glasses on the table had water marks on, from the dishwasher(?), the glass of wine my daughter ordered had marks on and had to be returned to the bar for a clean one. The bar waiter who brought our drinks had BO, not nice when reaching across customers to place their drinks. Breakfast, on the other had, was nicely presented with plenty of choice.
2 rooms booked for 4 nights. Although the check-in and condition of rooms were ok, some areas fell short. Shower didn't work, which I reported on the first morning, and noone looked until I chased up again (day 3 as told noone on site on a Sunday). There was a leak in bathroom which had spread mould and damp over the wall, again this wasn't looked at until day 3. I never received requested milk and after 2hrs of waiting I gave up!! The cooked breakfast although good choice, was mainly dried out due to being out for so long and only on the 4th morning was an actual menu put out indicating you could request freshly cooked (never told this!) To which it was too late. On check out, we were not asked how our stay was and all seemed too quick to take money without any apology for issues. We chose this place as staying for 4 nights, however wished we'd saved ourselves several hundred pounds and stayed in the local premier Inn
My husband and I were getting married nearby at Copdock hall. Due to have family abroad and all over the U.K. we recommended this hotel due to the convenience of the location to Copdock Hall and with us being local ourselves we wanted to support the local hotel. Before our family booked we called the hotel to arrange a wedding deal for our family and friends. In total we had about 40+ guests coming to stay at the hotel. We were told they would each have to pay a group discount of £75 each. During the wedding when speaking to one of our guests who mentioned they'd booked at this hotel without mentioning the wedding discount , they told us they only paid £45! This hotel completely rips off people by saying there is a “group discount for weddings” when really they rip our guests off. If you are coming for a wedding at Copdock Hall I recommend staying at the Holiday Inn which is nearby, cheaper and in a better condition than this hotel. We have also told Copdock Hall about these rip off prices. Even trying to complain to a manager was a nightmare when we called as no staff even seemed to know who the manager was! A complete joke, won't recommend to anyone.
After reading one of the reviews for this hotel we were a bit apprehensive about staying there but we couldn't fault it. The room was clean and comfortable and it's hard to say how it could have been improved. We ate in the restaurant, which was spacious and cool; it was a particularly hot day so this was a welcome relief. The menu had plenty of choice and was reasonably priced. There was no problem at all with providing gluten free food. Service at the hotel was excellent throughout, but particularly in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend.
Whilst the hotel is probably due a refit it is extremely comfortable and the staff are superb. It's in a great place for touring - we particularly enjoyed days out in Flatford and Thetford, both of which are nearby.
On arrival : Roadworks on London Rd ( dual carriageway) mean if you are approaching from Ipswich direction, you have to drive a couple of miles further on & turn round to access the hotel, this is obviously no fault of the hotel . We`d travelled a long way to get here so it was just another hassle we encountered on our dreadful road system. Plenty of free parking spaces at the hotel. Nice foyer, free sweets ! Nice reception area with sofas between foyer & bar. We thought the place had a nice, "homely" feel to it. Staff were polite & helpful. The hotel is obviously a Georgian building, expanded perhaps in the 70s. Pleasant exterior, tidy car park, plenty of trees & shrubs to mask the road which wasn`t busy or noisy anyway. We had rooms in the older part of the building, which were comfortable , clean, tidy & well equipped ( fans provided which we were pleased about). Kettle with lots of free biscuits ,tea ( & green tea) & coffee, hot chocolate provided & replen if required, as well as other free toiletries , sanitary items etc, on request . Plenty of clean towels, linen was crisp & spotless. Armchair & side table were nice additions, too. Folder with helpful info provided. After a long day driving & visiting Framlingham Castle, we decided to eat at the restaurant on site. Good decision, as the Staff were very polite & attentive, food arrived quickly & was delicious, plenty of it. Nicely air conditioned , with a view through the large French windows of the lawn outside ( some picnic benches on the lawn, too ) .We had starters of fried Brie in breadcrumbs, mains of mushroom tagliatelli & the bacon ham & mushroom tagliatelli. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. We were too full for pudding. Loved the restaurant decor & lighting. Plenty of space to move around. The bar was nice & roomy too, with a tv for those who like that as a feature, & although the bar is next to the restaurant, we couldn`t hear the tv, so we weren`t disturbed by it. Good sized tv in rooms , with good reception . Free wi-fi. Have seen a comment saying rooms are "dated". We thought they were cosy , well maintained & comfortable & the sash windows had a nice, nostalgic feel. The furniture was all in good order & the walls were nice & clean, as were the bathrooms. We have to have 2 rooms as i snore & my Wife is a light sleeper ! This means we have to get the best deal possible & we thought that we received tremendous value compared to other budget hotels we have stayed at, with many more features in the rooms than we receive elsewhere. Another thing we were delighted about was the breakfast ! For £8 each ( if pre paid ) , we had access to an all you can eat buffet : full cooked bacon ,sausage, eggs, beans, tomatoes ,hash browns, mushrooms. Also there were cereals, croissant, fruit , yoghurt. Fruit juices , coffee & tea inclusive. Fantastic for us as we usually have to try to find a Toby or suchlike that do our favourite buffet breakfasts. We had a full day planned - Sutton Hoo & Orford Castle , a walk at each location then a long drive home, so a good breakfast meant we didn`t have to stop for lunch. The quality of the breakfast was excellent & all was well cooked. Just a note : please could the all you can eat buffet breakfast be made more clear on the website ? We weren`t sure when planning our trip if all the "essentials" of a "full English" were included. The Staff told us on arrival. Very pleased that our stay was "self contained" after a long, tiring journey. Minor grumbles : Shower pressure not brilliant but plenty of hot water & lovely bathrooms. Quite small windows in one room, not much ventilation in hot weather. Beds a bit firm but I have a minor back problem, so that is just my preference for softer mattresses. We will definitely stay here again, when in the area & will seek out Best Western hotels when visiting other areas. Also, we will dine out at Best Western hotels in our local area, after our experience at Copdock. A big Thank you to all the Staff who work so hard to provide a pleasant experience for their customers. We have no connection to Best Western or any of their Staff, we were just very pleased with our entire experience at Best Western, Copdock. We packed a lot into our 2 days & having a comfortable, pleasant hotel to stay at really made our short break into a memorable occasion.
Not a good place to stay, firstly the room was awful, the shower fell off the wall, secondly to open the secondry glazing you had to scrub your hands after, cleaner needs to be sacked, I was moved to another room which was a better location not near the road ,and had been decorated properly and nice, bath looked too old, shower pressure awful, toilet seemed to wobble when sat on, flush toilet seemed loose. Dinner was fine fish and chips. Had to ask several times to put the air conditioning on in the restaurant it was too hot in there. Just ate breakfast this morning 3 out 5. Again had to ask to put the air conditioning on. Tried to check out , receptionist was having luggage around. Had to wait 5 mins. Overall Mark's out of 10 - I give it a 3 to be honest. Looks like it all needs a face lift.
We enjoyed a lovely stay at the hotel. The room was good and the bed very comfortable. We had a lovely meal with plenty of choice and the service was very good. The staff were all very welcoming, polite and helpful. I would definately recommend this as a place to stay and look forward to another stay in the future.
After reading reviews on this hotel I was very surprised on how nice the hotel was. As you walk in the hotel the receptionist was very happy and welcoming. Our room was really nice, very clean and the bed was very comfy. Not an insect insight. Breakfast was nice, didn't have an evening meal. Everyone has there own opinion on how there stay was and mine was just great. We will be coming back again.
The Charity Ball in the Hotels Suffolk Suite was a perfect location, it seated around 300 guests comfortably, the bar was well stocked and the bar staff, waiters/waitresses were courteous and attentive, a wonderful night was had by all. Thank you so much and hopefully do it all again next year.
I attended the charity ball on Saturday night wonderful night staff worked very hard with getting the food out food was lovely my only issue or small criticism would be the bar not being stocked enough and as I was driving wanted a tea and was told to go into the main hotel it was incredibly busy but over all a good night and good experience
Lots of parking and quite far out from town, but that suited me perfectly. All the facilities were clean tidy and everything worked. The staff were good and I had no problems of any sort. The room we stayed in had some sort of a fan that kept running and was a little disturbing during the night.
Deluxe room... squeaky floorboards, small double bed. Hairs found around toilet and in bath. Shower head placed over the bath taps, needed to almost sit on them to use. Towels thrown on the half made bed, second day. Breakfast. Well for a claimed 4 star, not up to standards of other 4 star best western. Wont go back.
Not only was I duped in to choosing this hotel from the pictures on the Great Little Breaks website, I should have read the previous reviews especially the one that said "Don't,just don't! This Hotel needs a lot of TLC and some staff need training in customer relations! Not forgetting fire alarm procedure.
Checked me in to an occupied room, was refused a fan in 30' heat, poor food and room.was pure dust and mould stay away people, I know cheap is cheap but there is a line between ok and just no consideration for customers and that line was well and truly crossed.
Had big family celebration Extremely good food Couldn't have been better service even to children and teenagers. Huge menu and also good children's menus For 7adults and 1 child with 2 courses each plus 1 starter and all the beers total £177 ..good value
Staying in the hotel tonight. Frankly appalling woken up at midnight by what sounds like an aircraft engine. Apparently that's the boiler turning on. Unable to turn it off will be asking for a full refund in the morning if this doesn't stop seriously quickly. Rooms dated and lacking full cleanliness, food poor quality ( vegetables tasted old and were heavily over cooked) and pie of the day was not as described but after waiting 30+ minutes for bar food was just happy to get something, so ate it anyway. Do not stay here for business in particular.
I just wanted to say a huge well done to Dan in the restaurant tonight. Considering a few of the guest were incredibly rude due to some issues with food ordering he was professional, courteous and kept diners well informed. Considering he has just left school he displayed maturity beyond his years. Thankyou.
Just returned from a short overnight trip to this hotel. We booked through Great Little Breaks and got so much included in the deal: bottle of Prosecco, 3 course dinner, box of chocs, Superior room AND brekkie too. We did wonder if it was too good to be true, but it was all included and better than we expected all round. Our room was superb, large and spacious with a comfy bed. GREAT! Also a view over the garden so added bonus. The Prosecco was wonderful - got us in the dining mood to be sure! Menu at dinner was varied with local produce featuring. We wondered if we would have a 'limited choice' as we were on a deal, but oh no. My main was Sea Bass - what a treat and perfectly cooked. Even my cheeseboard which I chose for pudding was huge! Husband opted for choc brownie and was suitably chuffed!!! The staff were all super lovely and attentive - thanks guys for looking after us so well. Definitely a great venue for exploring Suffolk and a great place for a relaxing little break. Oh, and breakfast was amazing. Fresh fruit salad to die for, really tasty sausages NOT dripping in oil, just great quality produce. What's not to like? We will be back......
Stayed here recently on a business trip and found the whole stay from start to finish to be exceptional. The car park was good with plenty of space and the reception staff were very efficient and friendly. The room had everything needed for a short stay and there was even a phone call from reception to see whether the room was OK. Had dinner and breakfast and the food was delicious with great service. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Lovely hotel and Friday nights receptionist Olivia was awesome at getting us a cab to the stadium. The room was lovely and quite modern with good facilities. A lovely breakfast too. Thanks Olivia you're wonderful.
Kate (manager) and her team were brilliant, friendly, calm, organised, funny, amazing. The hotel is nice with a lovely garden area and restaurant, bar, lounge were perfect as well. Suffolk suite is a nice function room for a wedding breakfast and evening party. Rooms are decent, clean and comfortable. Food very good too. Thank you for everything. We had a great time. From Adam and Michelle x
We Stayed for 2 nights as my best friend was getting married and I was bridesmaid. The room was basic and from what I read on the website, the bed was going to be king size, but it turned out to be a double and with my husband being 6ft4 it was a bit uncomfortable. The bedding seemed cheap and I didn't get much sleep. The coffee in the room (according to my husband) was vile. The windows wouldn't open and being one of the hottest weekends of the year, it was not good. We had 1 little fan, which we had on for our constant stay, even when we weren't in the room, as it was so hot and stuffy. The toilet was awful, it did not flush properly. We had dinner there on the first night. I had the fish and chips and it was really good. But the wait was to long. We were sitting with the bridal party and we all waited far to long, considering the restaurant wasn't that busy. However the food was good and good value. Breakfast was disappointing, it's alright if you want a fry up, but if you want a continental breakfast like I did, you are very limited. The staff were nice. The outside needs a bit of TLC. For the money, we have stayed in a Premier Inn and got much better. Best Western aren't as good as they used to be.
Booked through online agent, I needed a one night stop near Ipswich. The hotel is a little dated, I chose on price and for what I paid it was excellent value. As someone who is dairy and gluten intolerant I was well looked after but I felt the menus could be more dynamic and ingredient informative. My room was large, the shower hot the room was clean and tidy. Big TV, big bed in a family layout room. Why the 4* ? It quite the best in the east. Noise mainly, lots of corridor activity late and early with a banging fire door, but I would stay again.
We had an event nearby so the location was ideal, just a few miles away. However you can tell very early on the hotel is dated and in need of serious TLC. The room was covered in dust and looked like it hadn't been hoovered. It appears as though the sheets were changed and that's about it. Even the sheets weren't that class. The windows had mould and the entire room needed a good lick of paint. £166 for two nights including breakfast in my opinion is not value for money. I would recommend looking at alternatives in the area before picking this hotel.
Only stayed one night. The hotel was well presented and the staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had dinner and breakfast and the food was very tasty and hot. If we have cause to go to this area again, we would certainly look at this hotel to stay.
Held my daughters 10th birthday party here. Great venue for parties with varying room sizes. Friendly staff and the atmosphere was great. All the party attendees had a great time and my daughter loved it.
lovely night , slept really well the bed was very comfortable , food was wonderful had a good choice of very well gooded and really tasty hotel very quiet even though we had been warned there was a big event that night
We stayed here for a few nights recently and I have nothing but good to say about this hotel. The rooms were very spacious and very well appointed. The breakfast was very good and the evening meal was also very good. The staff were great. Parking was in abundance. If I'm in the area again I'll definitely use Best Western Ipswich again.
This is a great hotel where a warm welcome awaits. Great value, good food and comfortable rooms. Lots of car parking space and easy to reach via motorway network. Often a busy place, the hotel caters for large parties, couples and single travellers with the same care and attention you would expect from a Best Western hotel.
Stayed Friday 17th May, the room was comfortable but very warm, no air conditioning. Being a Friday not many people were staying. Had a meal of scampi and chips, a very easy meal to cook, however the scampi was overdone and the chips undercooked even on the 2nd attempt. Worse was to follow, never before have I had microwaved cheesecake, warm on the outside still frozen in the middle. Must try harder.
I can't think of many reasons for wanting to stay at this hotel, unless attending an event being held in one of their function rooms. For this particular purpose, the hotel is perfectly suited. The rooms are clean and have everything you would expect for the price. The hotel staff coped well enough with the function we were at. There was around 150 attendees, all seated and fed in good time and without massive queues at the bar. The location is a short drive from the main A14 so not difficult to find and there is plenty of parking on site.
Base for a mystery coach tour. Warm welcome by manager and explanation of hotel layout. Room was bright and airy with all facilities.Meals were fine with well cooked food and good choice. Staff were all helpful. Manager came and thanked us all for staying with Best Western on our departure.
So, having read all of the previous reviews about the wrong brand of condiment ect, lets look at reality, how much did you pay and what did you expect. Yes it's very dated and jaded in places but cut through it all and you have people who care and want you to be where you are. Honest people and honest service, relatively expected food quality and quantity. Very easy snd pleasant check in, room as expected. Restaurant service very efficient and professional, but here's the tag, probably the best music back track that I have ever listened to. Perfect for my dinner and kept me smiling all the time. All in all it's what I paid for but the people made the difference and I enjoyed every minute.
Booked through an online aggregator so got a very cheap deal including breakfast so given the cost this hotel was ok. The room was clean although the bathroom really needs an upgrade, water was hot so really for a stopping place ok. The room had a double bed and a single bed in it, I slept in the single because the double mattress was way passed best. Breakfast was ok too. In other words ok. But not great. One plus, lots of parking and it's free.
The whole hotel looks tired, with exterior, rooms and corridors needing a make-over - some great 90s decor! The rooms in the part of the hotel I stayed were not well insulated, with noise from neighbours and outside, and the corridors had an odd smell... But it isn't very expensive, and apart from the noise and smell the rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast was very good - and staff very helpful and friendly. Well done to them!
We sent most of our wedding guests to this hotel (thousands of pounds worth of business) however when I asked if the groom and I could have a complimentary breakfast the day after our wedding they refused. I asked that their management be made aware of my disappointment about this and they didn't even contact me. Appalling if you ask me!
This is our 3rd visit. Lovely hotel but in need of a make-over in parts. I booked 4 rooms - given 3 in the wings and 1 in main hotel. The latter was lovely - modern and elegant. The other 3 have seen better days. 2 of these rooms had the tiniest TVs and beds were hard. The 3rd room was very good although in need of updating. There is a smell of stale smoke in the corridors of this part of the hotel. The place has a welcoming feel despite the outdated decor and the staff are excellent. The breakfasts are lovely and the lounge area/bar are very comfortable. Good value for money and will stay again
This is the worst hotel I have stayed anywhere - it felt like being in Eastern Europe. The reception staff weren't really interested in the welcome bit of their job, the decor is all over the place - not just tired, completely knackered! The executive suite we booked was a joke - view of a flat roof and air-conditioning units. The bathroom was pokey, only one pack of biscuits, net curtains on a wire .....the exterior is as bad. The garden is going to seed. It was so noisy - drunk people shouting into the wee small hours, doors banging. The only saving grace was the breakfast and staff - decent enough fruit salad, great poached eggs and tomatoes. But not worth staying there for.
Reception were very friendly and helpful. Room was a surprise, very clean, view over the garden, big room with good facilities. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. The food was excellent. Enjoyed an evening meal of taglietelle and a full breakfast the next morning. For the price, you could not fault and would stay again
Great place to stay with your dogs they even allow you to leave your dogs in the room by themselves for a short time but will contact you if your dogs are distressed. My dogs love it there and get very spoiled
We stayed here for one night in March. When we entered the room initially it looked nice. Unfortunately as we looked around things were not as they seemed. There was a thick layer of dust on all the lights. There were cob webs all over the ceiling and dangling down over the bed. The springs on one side of the mattress were completely gone and very uncomfortable. The bathroom was dark. The shower had no power at all was like a dribble, one minute it was freezing then it would scald you. The window had green mould and condensation all over it. The cups had dirt and hairs in them. This really was awful. I would not recommend it at all.
To start with, this is a perfectly acceptable hotel, that will cause no distress or offence. If you want something cheap, basic, and without character, this is the one for you. The room was large, but dull, and a little jaded. The doors weren't sound-proofed, and so we were awoken very early by the sounds of slamming, and creaking floor-boards. I realise the next comment is the epitomy of a first-world-problem, but it REALLY irks me when hotels choose to cut corners, to save a few pence. I mean, if a hotel used Heinz condiments, how many complaints would they receive? The answer is: NONE. EVER. If they use cheap, nasty, generic condiments, however, it at best elicits a sigh from the customer. For us, however, it means that we'd simply never return again, EVER. Life is far too short to put up with such penny-pinching choices. At a hotel, I want a cooked breakfast with the BEST condiments. Tasteless sauces, are not only miserly and cheap, but they actually RUIN the whole breakfast. Thanks for letting me have this rant. It has helped... ;0) Nonetheless, this hotel has saved a couple of pennies, but lost our return trade. I hope they'll agree this is a very poor trade-off....
Spent one night at this hotel - where we had stayed before. The parking is good and the staff are excellent. Our room was in the older part of the hotel. The room was well furnished and the bed very comfortable but the bathroom required renovation and the decor generally was 'tired'. Our group had a 'set' dinner which was very acceptable but nothing special. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster as our group were attending a conference which started at 9am on Sunday morning so we all arrived for breakfast at 8am! The staff on duty found it very hard to cope but get full marks for doing their very best!
Stayed in a family room that was well equipped, large and modern (although a bit rough around the edges) dinner was well priced and tasty, breakfast was well stocked and a nice selection. The Team are absolutely amazing and made up for the slightly tatty room and lack of kids menu at dinner.
The hotel is very comfortable with a great staff team, nothing is too much trouble for anyone. There was a trainee Manager called George who was incredibly nice and very accomodating in every way he could be. I would highly recommend a stay at this relaxing Hotel. Great value for money.
Our stay at the hotel overall was a pleasant. The decor in the bathroom was a little tired, cracks in the ceiling over the shower. The room was very comfortable, and clean. The only problem was on the second day the cleaners only left us one lot of towels and as i couldnt get a reply when i rang down to reception we both had to use the same towel. When i finally got through i got an apology and some more towels straight away. Problem solved quickly
Leisure stay. Great location ideal for what we wanted to do, lacking in Reception staff though, had to wait at least 10 minutes to be checked in as no one on desk. Everything else was very good and clean.!
Headed here for the ultra white collar boxing event. Good venue and well set up. Bar prices fairly reasonable too. However - it was the hottest place on earth in there - for the event, with all the lights on, it was so warm and took away the enjoyment of the night slightly.
Afternoon tea today as a Mother's Day treat from my daughter. Four of us went and the lovely sunshine through the windows of the restaurant added it. I did feel however that there could have been a little more thought to the tea. Two scones for four was not usual but when asked the waitress kindly bought us two more. The middle layer was just 6 mini pots of jam and a pot of cream, I would like to have seen the scones on the middle layer with a little more choice to the top layer of cakes. The sandwiches were lovely but sadly had not been covered after making so that the outer bread was dry. If these thoughts could be addressed I would highly recommend the hotel for the comfort and quiet for a family event. My thoughts I could not relay in front of my daughter as it was her treat and I cannot fault the staff for their attention
First BW hotel I've used that doesn't serve Real Ale. Minus 20,000 points for that. Great breakfast (if there's any left) Very poor quality food for dinner. So, if you don't mind drinking or eating any old rubbish - except for a good breakfast then this hotel is very good.
.....we were very impressed by the room (in older part of building), and particularly the Food which was very high Quality for very reasonable Price (the Ham Hock and Pea Terrine was particularly good!)
Needs updating. Restaurant good. breakfast a battle. Noisy doors. Not fully wheelchair accessible even though I phoned beforehand to check..Good clean bedding but hard crispy towels. Bathroom not possible to use shower as no rails. Rooms built for men as not mirrors with light to do hair and makeup. Light in bathroom poor and way back from sink.
I remember this place from the seventies and although ok, it feels like it needs a lot of updating. Staff uninterested, food average. Room dull. On arrival and "seen" by the receptionist, she saw us and ignored us for a few mins. She did "upgrade" our room but thank god because it wasn't much even then, Impossible to open windows, so stuffy. HArd to find anything positive to say but as an alternative to a Premier or Travelodge, not a very good one!
Me and my wife spent a night at the Best Western Ipswich Hotel in the middle of March. It is a quiet, clean well located hotel, which provided nice and pleasant stay. Another very nice surprise was the dinner we've had in the restaurant - it was very tasty delicious and well presented. Our room was spacious, clean and quiet. Excellent stay! We highly recommend the hotel!
We found the staff all very helpful and cheerful, even when it got busy with lots of Lions members/partners checking in. Our room, on the first floor, was very nice, very clean and comfy bed. Bathroom could do with an update though. Plenty of hangers, plenty of drawer space too. Breakfast was good, once again staff very efficient and friendly.
Whole place needs up grading, and a make over. Broken fixing, an broken taps, toilet, an TV remote. Even the staff were helpful, nothing got repaired or replaced. I haven't had to get up an use the TV to change channels in years.
Horrible manager. Doesn't believe customer. Stayed here before and Van was broken into. Had meal and was ill all night and through day but manager was adamant wasn't them even though I only had that to eat. Won't speak to her again rest of stay. Only genuine guy was behind bar
Stayed here for the Romeo done night “Wow” What an experience, Arrived at hotel quick and easy check in, Room was clean and tidy for my stay, The venue was well organised and a lovely evening followed by a nice English fry up in the morning. Well done to all involved for making it a night to remember :) Will definitely be returning x
Very impressed with our stay, friendly staff and great food. We found the Menu very big and lots of options to suit everyone. The Buffet Breakfast was very nice and the Tables were very clean and always tidied straight away.
I was part of the 30+ crowd that arrived following a county darts weekend. I know some had concerns about the cleanliness of their rooms, but mine was clean and tidy and spacious. The hotel is nice and we ate in the restaurant and the food was fine and tasty. The bar as per usual hotels was expensive and I suppose being so far from Ipswich should have been cheaper hence the 4 star. So if you want a nice, quiet hotel this is for you. I'd stay again but would probably stay in Ipswich rather than this far out.
Stayed at this hotel for the first time and thought it was lovely. We were greeted with a warm smile. Our room was nice warm, the bedroom and bathroom were clean and the bed was very comfy, the biscuits were a nice bonus. We didn't have any food as we ate out with family, we will be staying here again in the future.
Arrived at the hotel after a long day Checked in went to the room to unpack And get ready for the evening to find a very unpleasant faeces in the toilet ! Clearly it had been there some hours Called reception. For someone to come and have a look house keeping flushed the toilet and replied she has bleached it and left extra bleach in If it doesn't flush leave a minute and re flush The bathroom mirror had water marks left on it and water marks on the sink and also hairs Uncomfortable bed Smallest of televisions for the size of the room However the breakfast wasn't to bad Will Not be returning
For the game away to Suffolk we stayed at this hotel. My room appeared clean and acceptable at first, however when entering the bathroom it appeared uncleaned an opinion confirmed by the previous guests dirty towels hanging on the door and the toilet had not been flushed from a previous user. I informed reception and was assured they would take care of it which never happened. In the main room I left a bottle of water on the desktop and was surprised that next morning it was stuck to the uncleaned surface giving me to believe that there had been a spillage from a previous occupant that had remained uncleaned. Overall not a very good experience
Overall our two night stay was fine. Friendly staff, good food (not fancy) served well and hot, British standard cuisine. Breakfast cooked to order on Saturday but buffet style Sunday. Room comfortable and clean but no extractor fan in the bathroom. As with many an older property there are signs of repair and decoration that is needed. Garden does not appear to receive much attention although cannot be certain as it is only February. Can walk to park and ride from here.
A quick overnight stay due to early business meeting. Very friendly & efficient lady on reception could not do enough for you. Evening meal from room service was lovely. Everything you could wish for at the buffet breakfast with quick replenishment of food
We stayed a couple of nights, very enjoyable stay, nice breakfast and helpful staff, would stay again. The rooms are clean and tidy. Beds were comfortable and check in and out was easy and quick, good amount of parking also.
We stayed here the night of 16th February, for their Valentines Soul and Motown and was definitely not disappointed. Speedy check in, even with a large number of other guests in queue, helped by 2 lovely young girls. Upon entering the room, we were rather happy with the size, cleanliness, and comfort of what was on offer. About 10 minutes after entering our room, one of the girls from reception, called to check everything was okay in our room, which we found a pleasant touch. Service throughout the night was great, efficient bar service and excellent customer service approaches from all members of staff during out Valentines meal. Music in the "Suffolk Suite" was also great, and topped off an enjoyable night. Breakfast was of buffet style, but very well cooked, and replenished appropriately. Thank you to all the staff at Best Western Ipswich Hotel, we really enjoyed our time with you!!
The IDFBL uses the Suffolk Suite for its annual presentation evening. We have about 250 people attending, with a meal as well. Since Best Western have taken over the hotel and installed a new manager things have got better and better. The hotel could not be more helpful. Plenty of staff available to cater for our requirements. Very efficient. We have used the venue for the last three years and will continue to do so. No complaints whatsoever.
Truly shocking. Cheap ingredients. Cucumber sandwiches with thick questionable spread. I called ahead and assumed I would have cake or scone. I wouldn't recommend this as a venue. I was too embarrassed to complain.
Certainly not a 3/4 star hotel , staff very good but run off their feet, one lady most of the time trying to manage bar and serve bar meals and restaurant meals all at the same time. Food was fine and bed was clean but the bedroom again was very tired bathroom quite grubby, and even though I was apparently upgraded as I'm a diamond reward customer hate to think what the base rooms would be like All in all staff good , food ok ,rooms quite poor
After years of best western hotel, staying I'm never sure what I will experience. Doesn't look the great from outdoors, slightly dated. Reception was a little slow to attend the desk. But the rooms were comfortable, nice bathrooms, decent bed and in a quiet location.
Very happy with the service from Start to finish. Booked it for night away with my husband very friendly staff when booking the reservation it was quick and easier email received with booking reference. when checking in the welcome was warm and stress free once in the room we had a call back in room from reception to make sure we were completely satisfied. Our room was lovely and spacious clean and nicely decorated. With a nice veiw of the grounds. check out we were greeted by happy welcoming staff. I would highly recommend this hotel amd will be visiting again in the very near future.
Clean rooms, pleasant staff, nice hotel. Close to transport routes, good food in restaurant and well stocked bar. Great parking at site and peaceful location, would be great for weddings. Nice place to get from it all for a few days too.
Best holiday ive had in agaes! Staff are so polite and friendly. Highly recommend we stayed for 5 night the rooms are very well kept,as for the restaurant the food was amazing. I would highly recommend.
Attended a function At the hotel receptionist on duty when we arrived was very welcoming, nice relaxing lounge area, staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food throughout our stay was lovely, bedroom very cleans and comfortable would definitely stay again.
Stayed here for a weekend away with my mum for her birthday. Food was delicious and the staff were ever so helpful and friendly. Room was immaculate. Will definitely stay again! Lovely place I really recommend.
We tried the New years Eve ball last year (17/18) and enjoyed so much we booked again for 2018/19. The 4 course meal was very good but the last one even better. A brilliant professional live band and disco until 1-30am made for a night to remember. New Years day brunch is served from 10 - 2pm so we could have a lazy day! The charming manageress seemed to be everywhere making sure everything ran like clockwork and all the staff very friendly. We've booked again for this year already.
Came to a party night in the Suffolk Suite great atmosphere room was nucely decorated, food was amazing. Stayed in one of the refurbished rooms lively and clean and overlooked the garden, breakfast was lovely staff are so friendly and heloful would definitely stay again.
Me and my dancers use the hall quite often for various performances and rehearsals we have even done a performance for the staff at the hotel aswell, the staff are always amazing and always very helpful. They even come watch us practice Thanks Kate
Attended a function bar staff amazing, good knowledge, very well presented, would definitely recommend and will stay again. Room were clean, breakfast was very nice, lots to choose from staff were very helpful.
Checked in by a lovely lady told us our room had been upgraded and once we were in the room she rung us to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The room was perfect. We booked our evening meal and as they had a xmas party we ate earlier. The food was awesome the chips were like my mum made. We had breakfast included the only fault was we had to wait for the hot items to be cooked I had eaten my breakfast and my husband hadn't even started as all the items had run out. I would definitely stay here again the staff are very friendly
Great hotel. Very warm and no heating reducer in room 210. Staff were great and great value for money. New Year gala was superb. Plenty of great food and god entertainment. Would definitely stay for New Year again
This year we decided to take away the stress of cooking for the family and went out for our Christmas meal. Brilliant decision. Upon arrival there were a selection of complimentary drinks, prosecco, mulled wine and a fruit punch. We sat down at our table and were quickly presented with our first course. Each course was delicious, well presented and just the right amount. We didn't have to wait long between courses. The staff were excellent, well mannered, created a relaxed environment for all and everyone enjoyed the experience.
Lovely hotel and really great christmas diner. It was all very well organised and run. Diner was nicely spaced but not to long between courses. Highly recomended for sunday roast diner. Set in nice grounds.
Fantastic food for all three courses! I had the cod for main course and the salsa verde was lush. The sticky toffee pudding was yummy. Lovely hotel with brilliant staff. Will return in 2019. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas!
Stayed 2 nights at the hotel, great value, nice large room with kingsize bed, enjoyed the Suffolk Suite function room for both daytime and evening event. The Xmas meal was very good with great selection of veg (which can normally be a let down) and setting and evening disco really finished the evening off well.
Pleasant room and good bathroom quiet even though there was a wedding on good wifi and excellent parking Breakfast is a help yourself and was well cooked and a good choice Sad I am not a fan of cook your own toast and make your own tea, I do that at home Eat twice in the evening, the food was ok but not wonderful and as you are well away from town you really do not have a lot of choice. I did tour the nearby area but found little and none to my taste. Staff were pleasant and looked after me well. Will visit again – not sure if that is a threat or a promise Shame about how far to anywhere
We partied and stayed here with a group of friends for the Adele tribute night. It was a fabulous night, the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble for them. Food was brilliant, serviced hot with lots of it!! The rooms are well presented, clean and so comfortable. Breakfast the next morning, we were again greeted with friendly smiles from the staff, who then informed us as to the food choices available. Breakfast was delicious. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Visited the Ipswich Hotel twice last week, both times for a Christmas meal, with one of them being the party night with the Adele tribute act. On both occasions the service was very good - not intrusive at all and the meal was served quickly and also cleared away at an appropriate time. If anything was needed, the staff were easily approachable and quickly satisfied any requirements. Food was lovely also, served hot and very tasty. The entertainment at the party night was good. The disco was one of the best I have been to for ages with a good selection of songs both old and new. Although I thought the lady who was the Adele tribute was a good singer, I wasn't convinced about her vocal similarity to the real Adele, however, it was good to have a live singer as well as a disco. Thank you Ipswich Hotel, two very good evenings.
We decided to come here for our works Christmas due this year. The atmosphere and service was lovely, and the food was just divine. Everything was really well put together and organised too. The band playing in the evening were very good and it was good fun for us all to be up and dancing. Overall it was a really good night and we would definitely recommend for future Christmas parties. From the team at Hers and Sirs.
Well kept hotel, really friendly helpful staff. Nice food. I'd come back for sure. The food was excellent and staff knew about allergens etc, and room service quick and polite. Amazed at how friendly everyone was.
We had our wedding in the hotel and the staff were very attentive. Nothing was too much for them and they made our day very special. Service was excellent. Food fabulous. We stayed overnight along with some of our guests and the bedroom was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good and all of us enjoyed our time there. Would highly recommend.
Friday: Food and service was dreadful. 5 guests in dining room, 5 at the bar. 2 waitresses covering both and took 2hrs. Had to keep asking for things. Soup cold and sent back. Steak and Ale pie was well over cooked and the filling was a sludge. Gammon was over cooked to curling and dry as was the fried egg. Room safe locked from previous occupant and not resolved all weekend. Continuous noise in the room from the kitchens below sounding like barrels being rolled across the floor. Apparently it was the pot washing machine. Saturday: Didn't risk breakfast. Continuous noise from machine in kitchen way into night. Sunday: Didn't risk breakfast. Attended a function. Food was dreadful. All joints on carvery were dried to death and couldn't be carved except in crumbling chunks. Vegetables overcooked and watery. Kitchen washer noise started around 1700 and just got worse to the point at one stage, vibrations could be felt through the floor. Went on way into the evening. Finally offered a room change but a bit late by then. Monday: No apology on check-out.
Stayed here for 3 nights this week while on a fishing trip. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. The food was excellent and the staff were very good. Can't ask for any more than that. On our last night we had a presentation dinner in the Suffolk Suite. Again the food and service was brilliant. Thank you.
We visited the hotel for the little mix tribute. We stayed in room 301 as my daughter wanted to sleep in bunk beds. When we arrived we had a fast check in. Room was very clean, spacious and well kept. The little mix tribute was fab, children really enjoyed it. Our room was at the front of the hotel but there was no noise from the road. Beds were comfy and room had everything we needed. My daughter would stay at this hotel every night if she could, she had the best time. Thank you to all the staff xxx
Spent the night in a room with my 7yr old. Rooms very comfortable and quiet with everything you need for an overnight stay. Our evening was really good listening and watching LMX preform little mix songs the children and adults really enjoyed there self. A lovely stay thank you. Would definitely stay again
My wife & I attended the charity ball & stayed overnight. We were warmly greeted, had a well appointed & comfortable room & the food at the ball was very nice. The breakfast was excellent. The only issue would be if you had to get to the hotel from Ipswich it is a fair way out. Fortunately we weren't.
Rooms very comfortable and quiet with everything you need for an overnight stay. Ball was brilliant loved the Soul Band. Food was good as well as the excellent service. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. A lovely stay thank you.
Came here for a function at the beginning of October even though it was extremely busy staff were very helpful service at the bar was quick and efficient the gin bar was a great idea will definitely return
We use this hotel for our Business Networking events. As such there are always emergencies! We booked for 12 and 14 turn up, we booked lunch for 20 and one just remembered they are vegetarian or worse! The hotel takes it all in it's stride, with a smile too! We have used many hotels in Ipswich over the last decade and this has been the best experience by far. Now looking forward to our Christmas Dinner with our network early December.
We visited the hotel for a charity night and stayed over... nothing was too much trouble from start to finish! We arrived a bit early for check in, but the rooms were ready and we were allowed to get into the rooms. We had a few drinks at the bar and a snack which was delicious and well cooked. The evening meal and entertainment were very good , the venue was well decorated and had the feeling of a marquee. Again great attentive service throughout the night. Breakfast was the same high quality and checkout very easy. Highly recommended as a wedding venue or a nice get away from it all weekend.
We stayed two nights. Difficult to find this hotel thanks to a long term diversion coming from Ipswich. The exterior as you approach looks like a factory or something other than a hotel. The receptionist was busy in an office behind the front desk arguing with a potential customer on the phone and who was obviously lost and angry en route, about how to reach the hotel. We were left to stand awaiting some attention. Two other staff passed but ignored us. We immediately noted the dirty carpet in the public areas and the dark pile fluff laying on it. Apparently it was new and according to the General Manager should not have been vacuumed. We have been told by carpet fitters that it is best to vacuum more frequently when new. Anyway it was not cleaned during our stay. The "superior" room we had booked was clean and adequate although not warm or anything special. We had been advised by reception to get to the restaurant before 7.00pm that evening as a coach party was expected. This is a four star hotel! We went down before our 6.45pm booking. We were asked if we wanted to order drinks. My wife asked if there was a list but no, although they had chardonnay - just chardonnay! We ordered our meal and waited - and waited. The available staff attended to the coach party that had arrived and apart from one waitress coming over to ask us again if we wanted to order, we were ignored until the starter eventually arrived and much later the main course. The upper crust of my steak pie was horribly hard and I could not get a knife or fork into it. My wife's fish came without the advertised tartar sauce. My fresh fruit in a brandy snap basket turned up without the brandy snap basket. It took just on two hours to get served as the coach party was clearly more important than the few other customers, who were also distressed. Breakfast the next morning was fine. However that evening, despite going to the restaurant at 6.25pm, the coach party got most of the attention and although the service was a bit quicker it was another sad experience. We had paid for dinner inclusive rate in advance so were a bit stuck. I asked for half a lager and got a pint. Dirty breakfast dishes were still on the ledge along the side of the restaurant. We finished the meal and went to the bar for a drink. My small whiskey was served in a not very polished but grubby half pint glass. Breakfast the next morning was just awful. Tables were not set up with cups, saucers, knives, spoons etc. My wife had to ask for a plate at the hot food servery as did I. Customers were standing around waiting for clean items and so forth. I went to the servery to ask for a clean knife and when I got back to our table and gave it to my wife she said it was not clean and went to a table that was set up for a wedding and took a clean knife as others had done. Someone objected and complained to my wife about her behaviour and generally the whole thing was quite unpleasant - and this a four star hotel! We asked to see the manager as we departed and although apologetic it is clear that the staff do not act as a team and are not given the necessary leadership or instilled with the service attitude that is needed. Four star it is not and I wonder whether it should even be three star. I am contacting Best Western about the review.
Can't thank Kate S and her team enough for helping me plan and host such a big event, Kate is extremely well experienced in events and nothing was to much hassle.. so much so we are hosting are next event there on the 9th of March 2019 All the feedback from my crowd ( of 400 + ) where nothing but good, no long waits at the bar.... bar staff were quick... good selection of drinks... she just did me proud, was a pleasure working with her. Good work! Garfie Romeo Done
I visit this hotel on a regular basis for networking events. some of which I organise. I have been there three times in the last ten days. On each occasion, the staff have been friendly and helpful. The food has been good with eggs cooked the way we want them for breakfast. I have to contact them by phone frequentlty, and the staff is always polite and able to help. Thoroughly recommend the hotel.
Great night out with friends the hotel was Busy but staff were excellent quick at the bar so no long waiting (good price for drinks) and clearing the tables and very friendly. Definitely be going back on their next event.
We arrived at reception to be greeted by lovely young receptionist , polite helpful and informed. From then it was d own hill . The room which we were informed was an upgrade (£78 b&b) as it was our 30th wedding anniversary, was cold , and the beds were two singles pushed together producing an uncomfortable ribbing in the centre. Main bedroom door was jamming and difficult to open .stain on carpet and poor décor ie carpet top of stairs very worn We were advised on arrivial to try and avoid dinning room between 7pm & 7:30pm as coach party were due to dine then , duly went to dine at 8 pm to find said party being served starters. 30 minute wait to be served 2 rump steaks bowl of slightly over cooked chips 2 slices tomato 1 smallish flat mushroom on cold plate ,laintthe steaks very quickly be came to cod to be eaten they were also stingy with fat. our first complaint seemed to produce no results a further complaint produced the offer of a free drink in the bar cost of meal ( £39) .To top the visit of I was woken early in morning by contractor vans starting and doors slamming .we imfor recption and were told management would either contact us by telephone or e-mail as of this moment still waiting mr & mrs m
Visited the BW Ipswich Hotel for a 1 night's stay on the 20th October. Check-in was reasonably pleasant, despite the rate of the booking being incorrect to begin with, but eventually was sorted. Given the keys to the room, and despite booking a twin room with twin beds, there was a double bed. Again this was sorted. Beds were very good and comfortable, and the room was quite large with a big ensuite. There was decent choice at breakfast, all well cooked, although it was disappointing that there were no scrambled eggs available, same for a white/brown bloomer....sliced bread is a bit boring. Check out was pleasant again. There are however some glaring problems. The hotel is woefully understaffed. I'm not sure if it is because there was a wedding on (which by the way, there was no disturbance for us), however, Beatriz who checked us in, also sorted our beds out for us, and was picking up plates in the restaurant a little later on. That's not on! Housekeeping was sub-standard. Double beds instead of twins aside, there were hairs around the bathtub and on the wall. Despite this, we will return as it is in a perfect location for us to head home to Cornwall/Southampton after watching Ipswich play.
My husband and I recently stayed at the Ipswich Hotel for our wedding anniversary. We had an evening meal there which was very nice and breakfast the following morning. A lovely choice of food for both. The staff were very nice, helpful and polite. The room was very nice and clean. We will definitely visit again.
Rooms were disgusting! Huge cobwebs in every corner, obviuously been up there a long time. Bathroom floor was filthy, we cleaned up a water spillage with one of the towels and the colour of the towel afterwards was just horrid.
We recently spent 2 nights here while visiting the area. The hotel is large, we had a pleasant large room facing the garden. The bed was a little hard for us, and the room very warm even without heating. We had to have the window open .On the Saturday night there was an event at the back of the hotel which was very loud, fortunately I had my ear plugs, and closed the windows, as it was still going strong after 11.30pm. To be fair I don't think they have these events too often, I had asked for a quiet room which it was, but not on Saturday. Breakfast was adequate, cooked available. There was a lack of choice in the types of eggs available, and sliced bread was a bit boring. Didn't have a meal there as we went out locally. We did have a drink in the bar, but it was quite busy because of a party. For the price we paid we thought the accommodation was good, in comparison to other hotels in the area. It is just off the main road and although the road it is on appears busy around 5pm, later it is very quiet.
Booked with a friend for the 80s night, its a god job I kinda like the 80s, as that's when the room looked ike it had last been decorated! Faded pin stripe curtains, 2 pin sockets for a lamp - I couldn't remove to plug my phone charger in - really weird! That said the night there was fab, friendly staff, great atmosphere at the Tropicana in the venue. And as it was on site - only a few minutes walk back to the room carrying shoes! And yes I would stay again - few pink gins and who cares what the décor is like - it was clean at least!
Lovely one night stay here as a stop through on way to Sussex. Now planning on booking here again to take advantage of a lovely hotel to go and explore the surroundings more. No road noise easy to find and lovely staff.
I visited the restaurant for a Sunday carvery with my family (party of 9). We chose this restaurant as we have visited many times before and have been very impressed. I was standing at the bar for 5 minutes before anyone was there to serve. We were seated quickly but that was probably the only positive aspect. The adults had 2 courses and the children had 3 courses ice cream for dessert. We were there for almost 1 hours and 45 mins, I think that's a long time especially as there were hardly any other customers there and the main course we help ourselves too. Service was very slow. The food was also very poor. The chicken salad starter was literally 3 strips of chicken and a small handful of leaves. Some of the party said the soup was far too peppery. When we have visited previously the cavery has been lovely, however today the meat was dry and tough, the Yorkshire puddings were tiny and a bit soggy and the vegetables were over cooked. The adults decided against a dessert as we were all disappointed with the first 2 courses. We then waited a good 20 mins for the children's ice cream to be bought out, at this time there were even less customers in the restaurant. This time last year it was very busy on a Sunday lunchtime now it is almost empty and I can see why. Definitely won't be returning anytime soon.
So yes it's a hotel firstly. However I've been coming with my family for the Sunday carvery for 18 years...but there will not be a 19th. Absolute rubbish. So you would normally arrive and it would be packed out. So I should have guessed when we got there and only a quarter of the tables were taken. Limited staff. Slow service. Started with the pate. And I should have taken a picture. A slither of pate and two small, I mean very small little pieces of cut up toast. I did so well holding my tongue. Then went up for the carvery. And the chef just cut chunks of meat up. Limited vegetables and everything was over cooked. Past times I've been the beef melts. Clearly got a different chef, different staff, different supplier...oh I'd love to swear to show you how rubbish it was. Do not go here for food and it hurts me to say this avoid at all costs the Sunday carvery...so disappointed..
We've used the Ipswich hotel before and returned for our wedding anniversary weekend as we wanted to visit some attractions in within a hours drive As usual we found the room excellent, food great and the staff friendly and helpful.
The hotel is slightly off the main road but this brings with it a good nights sleep ,a real bonus. The design is very seventy's but rooms have been updated and are smart and comfortable, with plenty of small extra's like biscuits for the , also plentiful, drinks. The restaurant is a bit ' soulless" so we chose the bar to eat our really nice ,well presented and served, pork and duck All in all --recommended and great value
Just had our whole wedding at the hotel . It was amazing from start to finish . All staff where very helpful through out . The venue was decorated just how I asked and the food was perfect too .again exactly what we asked for . The staff all worked so hard throughout the day to make sure it all went off without a hitch . We cannot thank you all enough for making our day so special.
We had lunch. The food was average, but my wife had a substitute (bread instead of rye bread on the menu) without being asked. The service was diabolically slow - we had to wait an age for our table, despite there being only one other table used and there was nobody around when we wanted to leave. There are not enough staff - there were a lot of people at the reception trying to book in as we were leaving and the single receptionist was on the telephone. My advice would be more staff and train them properly.
we booked late and although they were initially unable to include our dog in the booking they were able to reallocate rooms and provide us with a room for the night. Breakfast in the hotel is good and plentiful and able to eat in the garden area. Overall a very pleasant stay and recommend this hotel (with our without a dog!)
We have just been to my Fathers birthday celebration. Had a lovely time just a shame there is not enough staff, you feel sorry for them as they had a Wedding,21st and 90th and they clearly were over worked. We had dealings with Beatriz and she was outstanding. The Constable room was where it was held, it was lovely but freezing cold and you could not get the temp down-especially if you were sitting under the unit, the meals were nice though. Since Best Western took over it seems to have gone downhill. Hope the staff situation improves but it is still worth a visit.
Couldn't fault the service we received during our even though was only brief due to our late arrival excellent service was given both at night and morning. Would use again for definite. Recommend to anyone!
I stay here for a week in july and found that the staff was very friendly and helpful as my car ended up with a flat battery and Karl the production manager came out and helped me get it started by bump starting it and I am very thankful for his help
I have held my annual summer ball at this hotel in the Suffolk Suite for the last 3 years, the event starts at 6pm and finishes at 1am with over 300 people attending and having a sit down 3 course meal. The food is always lovely and comes out hot and the staff are very good at dealing with all the guests. I want to say a massive thank you to Kate who is the Hotel Manager as she oversees the whole event from start to finish, and even left her sister in-laws wedding to ensure that the night was a success. I look at the event like my wedding every year and knowing that Kate is there puts my mind at ease as Kate ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Been staying here for a few weeks. Staff are very helpful. The place itself is pleasant to stay in. Rooms are lovely. Food is great. Nice surroundings and relaxing atmosphere ... so all in all highly recommend
Had a great time. A very busy weekend for the hotel. A Wedding & Summer Ball for 300 guests but staff always happy to help. Sharon on reception went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. World Cup on TV in the bar, so the bar staff were extremely busy but never lost their cool on what was a hot hot hot day. ??
I stayed here for 2 nights and thought the cost of the hotel far outweighs what you get for your money. My initial thoughts were that the hotel looked very dated and needed a good refurb. We stayed over the weekend whilst the weather was incredibly warm, and granted that this isn't the norm for English weather, however the hotel did not seem at all prepared for this. Our room was sweltering!!! There is no air con so we went and asked reception for a fan to which we were told they only had a few which were all being used and there was a waiting list for them! Cue the first night of very little sleep due to the uncomfortable heat. Secondly the toilet would not flush properly so that the toilet paper would not flush away, when we asked housekeeping to come and have a look they advised us that there was ‘a knack to it' and we would have to constantly pump the handle whilst it was flushing. The bare minimum I would expect from a hotel chain is a toilet that flushed without a special way of making it do so! Then we took a shower and to say it was low pressure would be a huge understatement! I chose not to wash my hair that evening as I knew the pressure would not be enough to rinse the shampoo out. My partner was in the shower and gave up trying to completely rinse the soap suds off of him and just used the towel to remove them instead. Again when the housekeeper came to our room I mentioned it to her and got the response “I'm sure you're just used to a power shower at home”. I have stayed in many hotels over the years and this was by far the worst for water pressure. When we checked in to the hotel they advised us that if we pre authorise our debit card then we are able to get drinks / food 24 hours a day, which we did and then on our return back to the hotel after the bar had closed we asked for a couple of drinks to which the night porter refused. I see no point whatsoever of offering the service if the person working overnight does not want to do it! Breakfast was average at best. All in all I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel and given the fact it is part of a huge brand - best western, I would of expected a lot more!
I stopped here for 12 days and I can definitely say I will not be coming back. The whole hotel is outdated! Food is well below average. There was 1 main menu which was very old school and a specials menu. The specials menu was rubbish. 2 dishes just got swapped around every night so it was more or less the same for the whole time I was there. Not the standard I was expecting at all.
I recently spent 4 nights at this hotel as part of a coach trip with Alfa .I had a lovely spacious room with every amenity required . The housekeeping dept. looked after it extremely well during my stay . The staff were all very helpful & obliging . The dining room is large , light & airy & we were accomodated at large round tables . My one criticism is the chaotic 'system' of serving the evening meal . There was no single waiter assigned to each table . Instead the dishes ( pre selected from the menu each morning ) appeared randomly & sometimes not at all !! This meant some individuals had a long wait for their starter or dessert . Sometimes even the main course if a less popular item had been chosen involved a lengthy delay . There was often a big delay between those being served coffee after the meal & those wanting tea. Hopefully this system can be improved .
The front of the Hotel looks very old and tired and is not a good first impression. When the door opened to our room it was a total let down it felt so drab the sheet did not cover the mattress and there duvet cover had a hole in it purely age, there was paint on the net curtain the bathroom looked and felt very dated. The waitress in the hotel bar was very helpful when I mentioned about the sheet not fitting the mattress she said would would it for me which was very thoughtful but did there was a new housekeeper so there is a training issue here
Checking in was very quick and efficient and we received a voucher for free drink as we joined the rewards club, which was a lovely surprise. Twin room was reasonably clean and spacious. Tea and coffee in room was plentiful with biscuits too. Only problem with room was the sheets in the single bed were very dirty and we could not sleep in it. It was reported to housekeeping and reception the next morning. The double bed was ok, but not pristine. Hopefully it was a problem with the laundry and not that beds were not changed, although I can't be sure. Towels were very fluffy, large and white. Breakfast was ok, but not the eggs were fried or fried and kept running out. We ate dinner in the restaurant. The prices were ok and food average. The staff were friendly but a little inexperienced, no napkins on table nor any condiments. We ordered drinks and were disappointed that the glasses were very dirty and greasy, we had to send them back. All in all it was ok for one night and the price was reasonable. Would possibly stay again.
Stayed in this quiet hotel night, off the A12. Room was clean, with kettle and good choice of tea, coffee etc. Bathroom a good size with shampoo and body wash supplied, towels were thick. Bed was a little small in my opinion for 2 people, but for one night you can get by. Breakfast was very good with a choice of continental and full English, all being self service. Staff all very cheerful and friendly. Would have no hesitation in recommending.
Stayed here for five nights on a coach tour, had a warm welcome from the manageress and staff. Our room was clean and comfortable, food in the restaurant presented well and tasted good served by staff were all very friendly and helpful, although the service can be a bit slow sometimes. Breakfast was self service.
Recently stayed with our 11 month old daughter. Room was good size and clean, would like to have had a king size bed in a family room rather than just a double. The restaurant food was nice, but the floors were filthy and the clean glasses covered in smears and finger prints- my husbands had lipstick on it! After we'd eaten we took our daughter to have a crawl and look round the garden, but it was covered in fag and cigar ends. Not ideal for an inquisitive baby. Would stay again if we had to, but wouldn't be in a hurry to return.
Stopped here with my partner and child, stopped in the lodges, this is the worst and dirtiest hotel ive ever stopped in. The carpets had not been hoovered for years and there were stains all over the walls and curtains. The room was littered with spiders, this hotel is a total disaster which is summed up with how misrable the staff look. The women on reception really looked like she didnt want to be there, but then again me neither. Worst hotel ive ever stopped in by far!!!!!
Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. The room was dated and quite dirty. It could do with a refurbishment. I ate in the hotel restaurant/bar and had to choose from a very restrictive vegetarian menu. The food was bland and as a result far too expensive for what it is. There is room for a lot of improvement. I'm visiting again for business/work and am apprehensive.
Staff very friendly and competent. Room was of good spec. Evening meal was good value. Breakfast was excellent. Drink prices were fair with a nice outside garden to relax in. Therefore, whilst the first appearance of the hotel looks a bit like a scene from Crossroads, once inside it gets much better. Glad I stayed there.
Easy to find, good location for Ipswich. The room was clean, comfortable with good working facilities. The restaurant was bright and airy, good food at reasonable prices, the staff in the restaurant are very pleasant and amiable. Overall, this was a good place to stay and I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.
We stayed here for a night this month, the room was spacious and very clean, we had an evening meal which was delicious and very tasty, I need a gluten free diet and the hotel was very good at catering to my needs, I would recommend this hotel, the only down side was windows around the place that needed cleaning and some of the umbrellas in the garden were rather tatty
Standard motel type room , clean and modern. Restaurant stays open late and does good food if a bit expensive. Bar service very slow. But the breakfast was absolutely terrible. Buffet style (that's ok) but no one around to keep it stocked so when we turned up at 8.30 there were three old rubbery fried eggs and four rashers of bacon, and no one around to keep it topped up with freshly made food.
Didn't stay at the hotel but went to a Charity event with a meal and entertainment. Arrived to a reception with warm, cheap fizzy wine. Requested white wine for the table to be told they were running out and would have to get more from another hotel! Very poor choice of wine when it arrived. Meal mediocre. Melon starter minimal and nothing to write home about, main courses just edible, sweets - well the host comedian summed it up... I wont repeat his description of the sticky toffee pudding - but it was no better than a saver tinned pudding. Some of the tables did not receive any coffee. To sum up the banqueting management need to considerably sharpen up their act if they want to encourage people to book functions. We wont be hurrying back.
Stayed for one night, room dirty and kept awake by constant noise like an extractor fan on. Did manage some sleep but woke up covered in insect bites. Complained to reception who assured me management would contact apart from a call from a under manager that day telling me general manager would be ringing me concerning my complaint a week later I am still waiting!!
Carpets were filthy, including broken glass, very dubious looking stains and general filth to the point it had built up round the edges of the room, asked staff to hoover, staff did eventually do this, only to the centre of the carpet with a Henry hoover which picked virtually nothing up! If this is the standards that are on show to the public, I shudder to think what couldn't be seen. Fortunately, I was only there for a day so cannot comment on rooms, food, etc. but there didn't appear to many staff about..
Was in the constable suite for a first aid course..... The floor was not hoovered, there was fluff, dirt, glitter and even a fingernail on the carpet.... First aid means we have to kneel on the floor... Water glasses were not clean Water was in an open jug, not sealed reusable glass bottles. The coffee jug didn't work, had to take lid off to pour and my colleague says it wasn't very nice either. The central heating was blowing cold air, which was really unpleasant. The whole appearance is very tired. Not very impressive for a service that is being paid for and yet all of this would have been so easy to fix....
We stayed here for 2 nights over Easter with the inclusive breakfast Winter deal - this was a bargain deal incidentally at around £95 for 2 people including breakfast. We were made to feel uncomfortable throughout our stay from where we were allowed to sit in the bar to where we had to sit outside the restaurant to eat our meals. As dinner was not included, we fortunately found a couple of very friendly nearby pubs that were dog friendly. However, with breakfast at the hotel, we had to sit outside the dining room - which is understandable and actually ok if the staff had been proactive in setting up a table for us in advance in the area they wanted us to sit in, rather than me having to scramble round asking for cutlery, butter, napkins etc to be brought into the bar area. I have since complained to Best Western as we felt very unwelcome and am assured that the hotel will take on board the issues I have raised regarding being dog-friendly, but I will not be travelling to Ipswich again although this hotel is very nice if you don't have dogs.
I was put in an adjoining room (number 513- thought it had tinges of bad luck in the number) next to a stranger -separated by 2 doors, who happened to be a ‘village idiot' type, who gave out a big ‘Moo!' at the adjoinment when my phone voice exceeded 20dB. My quiet keyboard practice was delayed until after he loudly slammed his door shut at 0607hours. Breakfast was good, I requested porridge and got it! On leaving the breakfast room i was delighted to see the bar piano..as I look for them everywhere, although this morning's rendition of Clair de lune on this uncared for beautiful creation made me look more like Les Dawson than Claude Debussy.
This is a good value best western. The communal areas are a little dated. We had an updated room which was lovely and large. Very clean nice bedding. The towels were good quality. It is very hot in the room. We had the window open all night and no heating on. Would be unbearable in the summer as no air con. The ensuite was ok. The water pressure bit rubbish and the tap was broken. The floor boards in all the rooms were very noisy. Breakfast is plentiful but they do not replenish quickly enough so kept running out of fried eggs. It appears there is not enough staff. We had a meal in the bar, fish and chips, was very nice. The wine selection was rubbish.. Not many from the wine list available. We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very friendly.
Visited Easter Sunday. Craft fair on in function room. Had lunch in the bar, decent quality and competitively priced! Baguettes £5. Service was a little amateurish, chatting about customers! Extensive car parking.
I stay in Ipswich a lot on business, and usually use a town centre hotel close to the station. I had to stay an extra night, and decided to switch to a cheaper hotel because I was staying for my own personal use, so not on expenses. The Best Western turned out to be a little way out of the town, in quiet, lovely countryside, and was a lot nicer than the more expensive hotel I usually use. I will be staying there from now on whenever I need to be in Ipswich
Stayed in the refurbished part of the hotel and we were very happy with it all. The rooms were clean and large and it was very quiet overnight, despite there being a party going on downstairs. Breakfast was very good, first morning we just ordered the cooked breakfast and it arrived, just as ordered and very hot! The second morning it was buffet style and again all well cooked and hot! We went on the "winter deal" and very impressed with it all for the price. Would definitely go back!
We stayed in a refurbished executive room. Hot scalding water came out of both taps and there was grout missing between a lot of the floor tiles in the bathroom. Could not open one of the windows. Probably painted shut. There was more paint on the glass than the frame! Two people...one bath robe and only one drinking glass. Awful decaffeinated coffee. The attention is in the detail... not much attention taken !! At least the bed was clean. No choice of eggs at breakfast. Luke warm coffee. Ran out of bread. Hardly any pastries . No jam or marmalade offered. All in all very poor. No service from the staff eifher.....too busy talking. To top it off I misread the bill and the receptionist bit my head off. Not great
Decided to make an overnight stop en route to the east coast for a break and this hotel seemed in a good location just off the A12. One night is never long enough to really make a good judgement but I have to say that despite the facilities being fairly good, bedroom, bathroom, wifi and meals, I found the place totally soul-less!. I think we were the only couple staying as I certainly didn't see any others. As with a lot of overnight hotels these days, it was full of workmen in ones and twos obviously on a job somewhere locally, and they are noisy! Doors slamming and loud raucous voices with thin walls.... and they get up early so cars leaving the car park outside our window. Staff were very pleasant but I;m afraid that I did not find this hotel welcoming at all. Sorry!
I was very impressed with the service at this hotel. I checked in but the room was quite noisy with a air conditioning unit nearby. I asked to swap room and the receptionist Beatriz could not have been more helpful and accommodating. I was very pleased with the new room and Beatriz even brought a desert that they give to guests on arrival. I also received a goodie bag. On check out there was fresh coffee to take away which is a great idea I hadn't seen before. Well done all concerned!
Good size room, food selection good and served hot. Serving staff disorganised, did not seem to be anyone in charge.Reasonable for the price paid. Parking easy and a lot of space.Location close to the A12
The toilet did not flush, the carpet was filthy, the WiFi did not work, the fittings were rusty, the tv had a weird screen colour, no plugs near bed head for charging phones or medical equipment. Off the main road with circuitous route into Ipswich. All in all a tired hotel overdue refurbishment or closure. Staff were not empowered to make amends for shortcomings as no manager was present I was told the manager would contact me. They have not!
8 of us piled into the hotel on Friday 16/2/18. Motown tribute. Fantastic night, Bar food good, staff friendly and helpful especially the Ed Sheeran look alike. We're already looking forward to the next one.
Recently stayed with extended family for our son's wedding which was held nearby .Throughout our stay the staff were very friendly and helpful .Carl and the rest of the team really went the extra mile to make us all feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them
Booked last minute. Our room was 505. It was ok and clean but everything was very, very dated. The shower was not the most efficient. I know that the hotel is going under refurbishment and those rooms are probably good but the unrefurbished ones are not. It certainly wasn't 4 star as advertised. The breakfast was good with the usual hot and cold items.
So disappointed. It's hard to think of any positives when there is a party of drunk men shouting and laughing like idiots in the room adjacent to mine. Wasn't expecting the Ritz, but was expecting a little more than this. Or maybe I chose the wrong time to stay here. Beds clean. Staff friendly. Overheated. Noisy. Bathroom clean. Won't stay here again. Would rather sleep in the car. Food in restaurant adequate. Walls so thin, I can hear things I'd rather not hear. Sorry Best Western Ipswich. Thumbs down from me.
This probably the worst hotel I have stayed in for a very long time. When you arrive the front of the hotel looks like a conservatory showroom. The receptionist was very helpful (and helpful throughout, but alas she is working in a broken system with awful facilities!) The room was in a different part of the hotel and the walk there was through a cold smelly conservatory corridor. The room was ok, nothing special but ok for the price. There were cracked flooring in the bathroom and marks on the floor but as it was an overnight it wasn't too much of an issue. I went to make a cup of tea, but the cups were dirty as were the spoons. So I called down to reception and they replaced them. My wife went to the toilet and it didn't flush. So once again I called reception who came and tried herself but admitted defeat. As it was now late we didn't want to move across the other side of hotel and we had already unpacked. So we went to bed, well we tried. The thinness of the mattress was matched by the thinness of the walls. The mattress was terrible, lumpy and uncomfortable and we could hear the TVs from next door that was drowning out our own. The shower was also as strong as a tepid hosepipe! As I write this the fire alarms are now going off as they are changing the alarm panels. When I called the reception the morning receptionist had no clue what was doing on and hung up on me. Ten minutes later they are still going off! Thankfully we didn't have breakfast as at £10 ahead it was expensive. I would suggest that you avoid the hotel like the plague, I wonder if we get a reply from the manager via Trip Advisor as he tends to ignore the bad reviews! The only saving grace was the receptionist that worked the evening shift. She really did try her best.
first my list of complaints, oops i havent any. it is a great hotel to stay at, all the staff without exception were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make everything happen perfectly. dietary needs were met , hotel room and facilities were excellent. if the hotel reads this, thank you for a lovely stay.
I frequently have to stay in hotels through work. This is a great hotel with dedicated and hardworking staff. My special dietary needs (vegan) have always been met. The head chef is creative and imaginative with my menu choice each night of my stay. The reception staff are always so willing to help and the bar and restaurant staff are very friendly and keen to please. I would highly recommend staying here, if you are in the area. Sometimes the place fills up, but often it's quiet and a discreet place to stay.
We booked via the Best Western website and received a great Dinner, Bed and Breakfast offer. We stayed in 304 a large room which has recently been refitted. All staff were lovely and very efficient. The meal was lovely and very good choices on the menu. The area used for the restaurant is less than ideal it is an open and unwelcoming room. Yes it is ideal for a sunny morning and Breakfast not good as a restaurant for dinner. Good prices on the bar and a wide drinks selection will stay again.
Hubby booked this hotel for a night away to chill and that's exactly what we did. Nice easy check in with all hotel facilities explained. Booked an executive room which was a recently refurbished one I believe - all amenities in the room which you would expect. Had dinner in the restaurant which was amazing. Plenty of choice with staff on hand to offer assistance when stuck between too many dishes to choose from !!! Many thanks to the young lad that served us - sorry didn't catch his name. Breakfast was also nice, hot and fresh. Lovely stay would defiantly return.
This is my second visit to this hotel, I must have tried to erase the first from memory!! Myself and 2 teenage children were put on the ground floor in a "due to be refurbished" room. I had with me my 14yo girl and 16 yo boy, clearly stated in the booking. 2 beds were available, a single and double so I guess my daughter and I are sharing??? After a couple of hours in the room, the fact that the toilet didn't flush properly was starting to tell. Picked up the phone to call reception, not working!! Go to reception, tell them about the toilet and phone and the stains on the floor!! "Oh, well you're in a room due to be refurbished, I'll get you another room and inform maintenance about the toilet, you'll still be on the ground floor though". So we pack up all our stuff and move 2 doors down, walk in to be met with a fusty smell, kids are already not happy!! So the flush works, and the phone which is good but still the stains??? (See pics) The room has heating, you can't control it so one half of the room is warm, the other half cold. At one point, my nose was numb with cold!!! I feel the need to point out at this time that there are 3 people staying in this rather small room, there are no fans or anything in the room or toilet, you are sharing whatever you do with everyone if you need to go to the toilet. You can either leave the door closed so whoever goes in next gets a full blast of poop or leave it open so everyone has to suffer until the smell has disbursed. What can I say people, everyone has to poop at some point!!! The shower, this is good. It soaks the entire room once you've worked out how to use it and of course, there's no where for the steam to go!!! No plug sockets near the beds is most frustrating but I guess it forces you to get up when the alarm goes off!!! Being on the ground floor, leaving the only window in the room open is a big no no, especially at night!! Paying the same as someone in a newer room is the real kicker here!! The smoking area is inadequate, round at the back of the hotel which can be quite scary for a woman on her own but in this case, you can't please everyone. We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening, food was fairly decent but paying £4.50 for a fizzy orange, that takes the p***!! Breakfast in the morning was pretty pants but partly due to us not getting down there until 9:45, 15 minutes before it was due to close, def not worth the money in any case both for dinner or breakfast. The most redeeming quality of this hotel is its staff. At dinner we were served by Harlen. His attitude to the several people he had to look after on his own was admirable! He was pleasant, polite and funny. At breakfast Harlen was there again and another lady we think was called Angela. Both were lovely and deserve a mention. Plus I took our jars of jams and honey home which I feel makes up some of the cost!!! All in all, I will be avoiding this place like the plaque. I can't stand another stay of my children asking if it's safe to touch the floor with bare feet!!!! The hotel needs some serious work done and the rooms not yet refurbished need to be locked down until they're done!!
I stayed with a group over Christmas. We were treated very well. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, the room was very comfortable and clean. It was a great stay and I would highly recommend it. I would certainly go back. I couldn't fault it.
Stayed for two nights for New year's celebrations stayed in room 306 which was lovely. Food was Very good and the new year's eve entertainment was also very good. The staff were very friendly and hard working. I would recommend this hotel and would stay again.
We have been going to this Hotel now for over 8 years we don't sleep in the hotel we go on a caravan rally. the service from all the staff are just great happy faces all the time. the two things that stand out is the food the chef always serve great food. there is nothing I can fault from start to finish
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few years on business. This one night was 11 December for a business seminar and Christmas evening meal. Booked in mid-afternoon and was given room 214. When I entered the room there was a very unpleasant smell. Checking the bathroom and lifting the lid of the toilet there were two brown marks in the toilet channel and clearly this had not been cleaned. The courtesy tray of coffee and tea did not contain a spoon so I had to go to reception to obtain one. The evening then became a disaster. There were 16 delegates eating after the seminar with the food already booked. We were supposed to have non alcoholic cocktails prior to the meal which turned out to be jugs of various cordials. The starters and main course were very nice. A tomato and basil soup followed by the usual Christmas turkey and trimmings. We were supposed to have wine with the main course but there was no one available. Eventually we were handed the wine menu but at this point we had finished our main course and was anticipating the dessert. There was no wine waiter so the barman came out to take our orders. Two colleagues requested a Shiraz and a Rioja. They were given a Malbec. When questioned the barman advised that there was no Shiraz or Rioja. Why did he not tell them when they ordered. My dessert was supposed to be "Christmas pudding, ice cream with egg nog. I thought this would be a nice change from the usual Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. However what came up was not what I expected. Their menu was misprinted. The comma after "Christmas pudding, ice cream and egg nog" should not have been there. It turned out to be Christmas pudding flavoured ice cream with egg nog. Quite a difference. After total confusion there was a spare Christmas pudding with brandy sauce available so I took it! My heart went out to the poor young waitress (Millie) who had to cope with the group. She was totaly overwhelmed with the number to cope with. When you have 16 people (8 per table) all expecting to have their meal at the same time you need more than one waitress. Millie was a credit to the hotel and kept a good sense of humour throughout remembering that the customer is always right even when they aren't! This hotel is in desperate need of more staff in the restaurant. Our group were the only ones eating in the restaurant that night but that cannot be served by one waitress. Another waitress came out on a couple of occasions to assist but not for long. I thanked the chef at the end of the meal as the quality of the food was very good. Poor Millie finished at 12.10am and was there again at 7am dealing with breakfast. Please Best Western - more staff.
Clean rooms, good breakfast with menu choice plus buffet items and friendly lovely staff who were very helpful. Price was good value for money and even the booking staff were really helpful and accommodating Thanks
We got lucky and had an updated room plenty of space comfortable bed. Good size bathroom, with shower over bath. Had good breakfast the following morning, with plenty of variety to choose from. I had fried breakfast and toast all were cooked great and hot. Several choices of hot and cold drinks. Overall a great night and comfortable room. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Stayed for two nights as part of a group as we were attending a family wedding. Five rooms were booked in all. Two couples including ourselves had been upgraded to superior doubles which were lovely. The other group were placed in the annex which was far inferior in every way. When they saw our rooms they asked to move which was arranged but they had to pay extra. The hotel is midway through much needed refurbishment and if you get a redecorated room you're laughing. Breakfast was lovely, staff very pleasant. Would stay again.
Stayed with family for Adele night. Firstly the hotel tried to take more money off me for the room than I was quoted when I booked. I had to make a point and got my money back. Booked at same time as other members of my party and was put in a room in the old part of the hotel which was awful. Hairs in bed and shower. Rubbish left in Bin no bulb in lampshade. Coffee stains on both bedside tables and a very sticky worn out bathroom floor. As it was one night thought I would stick it out until I went to my Mum room which was in the refurbished part of hotel. The other members of our party had new rooms as well. I rang down to reception and was given a new room but missed beginning of event as I had to empty one room and then go to the other. The meal was good, bar supervisor was mouthing off about no glasses and swearing which I thought was inappropriate. The bar ran out of drinks but Adele was good. Next morning breakfast was ok but the waitress kept taking plates away very quickly. When we checked out clerk apologised for the rubbish tribute act which was ironic as that was the only good thing of the evening. It's a shame as been going for years with my family and my sister got married here.
Went here for a sports dinner, the main room where the event took place was perfect for what was needed and with so many people there I was impressed with the quality of the food and level of staffing. Was a good atmosphere in the bar afterwards and despite it being busy, the staff were quick, efficient and very friendly. Room had recently been decorated and was well appointed with a large and very comfortable bed! Reception staff on check-in and out were very friendly and helpful. All in all, a very nice stay
The room was clean and the bed was comfy but dated. the breakfast was a disaster, there was an older lady running around like a headless chicken. we sat ourselves down and then waited 20 minutes for our tea and coffee. there was another girl there who didn't seem to know what planet she was on and walked around aimlessly, it was all quite uncomfortable and i felt in the way being in the restaurant.
I came to this hotel for a work conference and was very disappointed by the food and the service. The only sign of green in the lunch was some pea shoots decorating the sandwiches. No salad or fruit was provided. The waiting staff were not confident which of the hot food was vegetarian. There was a lack of drinks and no snacks were provided with the tea and coffee. We ran out of water on my table and we had to ask twice before anyone brought any more. The hotel is also very dated and in severe need of refurbishment.
This hotel is quite dated. The rooms need updating and the beds are very uncomfortable. Linen very thin more suited for summer. Bar staff friendly and helpful. Ok for one night but wouldn't stay any longer.
The hotel boasts 4 **** so i was really looking forward to my stay. The bedroom was nice with comfy chairs and a casual table to compliment the large work desk and massive , comfy double bed. The bathroom was well laid out with a bath and shower and decent shampoo, conditioner & body wash. The downside to the room was how cold it was due to the single pane glazing, also as mentioned in other reviews there is a loud, constant drone of fans. Breakfast was buffet style and of a very good quality but suffers from being under the heat lamps too long. Dinner was also good however it was whisper quiet with no background noise at all and it made me feel like i was on the naughty step!
I recently held a meeting at the Ipswich hotel and found the hotel to be very good. The meeting was held in the Lucas room. The fruit basket in the room and buffet lunch where first class with a good selection of food. The staff where professional and discreet with taking messages. We are already booking further meetings at this hotel.
The room and bathroom could've both done with some work, but the beds were comfortable enough and the price was cheap enough. Staff were polite and even though there was a wedding going on we weren't disturbed by noise
It was quite nice here. The staff were all friendly, especially on reception. My room, whilst there was no noise from the adjacent bar, did have the droning g noise of extractor fans from somewhere. Breakfast buffet was mediocre, not hot, rubber eggs etc. I asked for poached ~ which took 10minutes, but were wonderful. (please help the chef in Lowestoft...) The evening meal was OK, surprisingly, as I watched free beer going out to those who had returned unsatisfactory meals! I took mine, on a tray, to my room and ate in peace (avoiding the football) If breakfast was better, I'd stay again.
My 5 lady friends and I were looking forward to a birthday celebration weekend away and found a really great deal for an overnight stay at this hotel. Although I had specifically requested at the time of booking, twin beds in each of the three rooms, we were told that they weren't aware of this (I had it in a written confirmation) The only rooms they had with twin beds were in the annex which had unrefurbished rooms. There was no way that, looking at the public parts of the hotel, we were going to consider unrefurbished rooms as the pace reminded us of the Crossroads Motel from the 1960's TV show!! Clean but very dated and tired, drab and run down!! Eventually, after us having to get quite stressed and angry, they agreed to put us in the main building in the modernized refurbished rooms. These rooms were actually fine, modern, very clean and quite adequate for a one night stay. It was just a shame that our arrival got our weekend off on a sour note. We went out for the afternoon and came back around 6 pm to be greeted by the overwhelming smell of boiled cabbage and/or brussel sprouts permeating all through the lounge and reception areas. We were going to stay and have some pre-dinner drinks but the smell was so unpleasant that we all retreated to our bedrooms!!!.We were told that there was a big party in the hotel that night so we would have our evening meal in a different room. It looked like a conference room with a few very basic tables, laid for dinner with no tablecloths. It could have been a works canteen! The meal was adequate although it took over two hours to serve us our three courses and although the staff were pleasant and helpful, you could see that there was no structure or guidance for them and we were left at the end of the meal served by one very young sweet girl who apologised and said she had been left to cope all on her own. The value was great although the food was so-so. I guess you get what you pay for!! Definitely would not stay there again.
6 ladies arrived having booked 3 twin rooms to be told they were doubles only. We could have unrefurbished rooms in annex which we refused. Eventually we got our (refurbished) rooms in main hotel which were spotlessly clean and comfortable. Hotel had a number of coach parties staying plus a Xmas do in main dining room so a makeshift "dining room" was set up in what can only be described as a meeting room only less interesting (or clean). A few shabby tables set in a cold uninviting room. Pervading smell of long-cooked brussel sprouts over-ran all the public areas. Our dinner started at 8.15pm, food ranged from tasteless (soup) to mediocre (vegetable tart). Please don't ask about the crumble - shockingly bad. Service was with a smile but our poor waitress was literally on her own having been deserted by colleagues. Our dinner took almost 3 hours. To top it off was a flip-pad stuck on the wall on which someone had scrawled in felt-tip "welcome to best western ipswich" and the wifi code - it gave us a good laugh. Breakfast was slightly better in that it was in main restaurant. Cooked food looked slightly congealed, cereal and toast ok. The best and worst thing was the staff. Some were completely unaware of what to do, others were better. Overall very poorly managed staff who seemed not to have a clue how to look after guests. Management should be ashamed.
lovey room nice big bedroom lovey bathroom food was ok quite bar good tv in room i l;iked the cake in the room and bicure and lovey stuff and polite and freindliy ans orher thing and lovey day thabks for
I stayed at this hotel as a birthday treat was really impressed all round! The receptionist at check in was lovely, she was very helpful and friendly, we had a lovely refurbed room and the breakfast was great!:)
Had lovely visit, the check in was quick no fuss, polite and confident receptionist. Staff were very helpful with all inquiries. Food was beyond good with great service to go with it. All staff look after there customers with genuine care and will go out there way to help in any way. The location isn't right in Ipswich but it isn't far, which makes it quite.
We've stayed at this hotel over a number of years for various events. This was our first stay since becoming Best Western. Our room was in a part of the hotel we'd not stayed in before. It looked very tired & the carpet was threadbare in places. The walls were so thin you could hear kettles, phones & conversations of the neighbours. The whole place is in dire need of a refurbished. On the plus side, the staff were polite & friendly and there was a good breakfast on offer in the morning.
38 of us went here for Sunday lunch to celebrate my in laws Diamond wedding anniversary. The F&B Manager was on duty to look after our party and a completely packed restaurant. The food was lovely. The carvery had a terrific selection of meats and vegetables and accompaniments. We had three vegetarians in the party and their food was terrific. Would highly recommend and will definitely return soon.
sat in the bar at the moment having been fleeced of £12.00 for two bottles of bulmers red berry cider i thought that i might have some service for the extortionate price i have just paid. after asking the barman in the first half of the Ireland v south Africa rugby if there was any chance we could watch the Australia v wales game he said yes no problem. well at least i might get something for my money. No chance after asking 3 times i was totally ignored. absolutely the worse customer service ever. what i will say is there very good at throwing bottles in the bottle skip.. crash bang wallop.never mind the guest having to put up with this needless noise. and i feel sorry for the poor person who will rip there hands to shreds taking out the broken glass on the morning. well the match has finished and knowone bothered to turn the tv over. i asked really nicely as well ! its great when we have music on coming through the hotel music system and the tv on at the same time. clueless absolutley rubbish service and extortionate prices for drinks.
Having read some recent reviews that were not totally complimentary it always has the chance to shape your views. Not sure what the other reviews were about had a grey room with a large bathroom. Treated myself to a soak in the bath nice and long enough to layback with ease. Very clean and tidy nice decor, didn't use the bar or restaurant area. Very reasonable price for the night and if travelling this way again will certainly stay over.
We were staying one night for a dinner and dance that was held in the Suffolk Suite. Our room, which we upgraded, for an additional £20 had a large patch of mold on the wall, and we couldn't open the window, even though we were able to unlock it. The plumbing is very noisy, so much so it was like a comedy from a 1950 film. The bath was a tad too small to be able to lay down in,even though I am of average height, but at least the water was hot. We had to walk outside to enter the Suffolk Suite, where ball was held . Fortunately it wasn't raining, but it was extremely blustery. One of the advantages of staying in a hotel where the ball is held is that you don't have to step into the open whilst wearing dance shoes, that are not made for such an activity. The dinner consisted of soup, that was of a greenish tint, that was listed as potato and leek, but if I hadn't read the description I wouldn't have guessed. The main was chicken that was dry, the roast potato's skins were hard but not crunchy. The vegetables were crisp and the gravy was good. The sweet was an apple and plum crumble tartlet that was small and very hard. In fact too hard to cut with my spoon. The custard was good but very meager in quantity. Returning to the room our bed was too soft for my liking and the duvet too thick. This made the bed too hot and we were unable to reduce the temperature in the room by opening the window. The breakfast was average although the hash browns were greasy and the large bowl of scrambled eggs was one solid lump. I asked for two poached eggs that the duly served. One was excellent and the other completely solid. I understand the hotel is in the process of refurbishment as it is sorely needed. The only bright spot was the staff, that were first rate, from the receptionist to the bar staff and all the waiters. If our room was in fact an upgrade, I hate to think what the standard level was like?
Just back from 2 night stay with friend. We were on line dance weekender. Our package was bed breakfast and evening meal, food very good. Menu choice at lunchtime was good if you felt you had room for this after a big breakfast. Staff very pleasant and trying to accommodate everyone. There had been a lack of communication concerning the meals which the staff were doing there very best to resolve. I understand the hotel has only recently been taken over by the Best Western chain and is in the process of a refurbishment. Some of the rooms had already been refurbished, we had one that had yet to be done, although a little dated was clean. The room score given is based on the room we stayed in. Would definitely return if we were in the area.
Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights having booked via BW to ensure we got a refurbished room. On arrival check in was swift, and out room allocated. We were given 101 on the ground floor nearest to the bar. The room has twin beds, provided the necessary comforts (tea making biscuits, iron etc). We wanted to open the secondary Windows for air, and on reporting to reception, a member of staff quickly came to our assistance, and opened both windows. Staff were friendly and understanding particularly when our remote seemed to be defective. Again quickly came back with two new remotes and resolved the issue. Couldn't fault the staff. The room had been upgraded in terms of fixtures and fittings but the bathroom was in need of upgrading/refurbing. Outside our room was a fire door which caused some disturbance with opening/closing but we were able to put up with this and didn't complain, but might annoy other guests. Breakfast was lovely with choice of cooked, cereal etc and on the Monday was cooked fresh to order as there were so few guests. Overall, this is a decent hotel and once fully refurbished should be much nicer, but for the price we paid represents good value.
Great Service, lovely staff, very willing to help Good Food in evening restaurant, not too expensive Good English Breakfast. Great Value for money all round Large rooms Lots of parking Easy to find, just off main road Quiet (although we had to shut the window one night for an owl - but it is in the country and to be expected)
There was a massive mix up (not the hotels fault) by BW over our room, but the hotel did everything to put it right. Natasha was brilliant and Kate as well went out of their way to make sure we had the best stay. The hotel is lovely and breakfast was great. We had the bar meals which were a high standard. The whole area is really nice and the hotel is extremely quiet. Despite a wedding being on, we never heard a thing. If you are planning a visit to Suffolk this is a great place to stay.
We were attending a family birthday in the area so booked into the hotel, really lovely place with good food and friendly staff. The hotel is having a refurbish but that never got in the way of the service we received all round, nothing was too much effort for the staff.Excellent value for money, definitely recommend if in the area.
The room was really nice and clean, and the bar food was good, but some of the prices for the drinks where a little expensive. The staff where very friendly and helpful. The hotel has some nice grounds.
Excellent polite welcoming, clean but slightly outdated decor. Lovely standards room nice beds, clean and standard facilities. Unfortunately we experienced drilling/moving of furniture noises at 1.30am and 3.30am for 45 minutes at a time that woke us up and kept us awake throughout the night. It was a very intense sound and when we checked out in the morning and conveyed our disappointment, the receptionist was less than sympathetic. She explained that it might have been the night porters clearing up from a big function, the receptionist also through out the standard disregarding comment "well no one else has complained" such a dismissive comment. Instead of calling for the duty manager she said we could call the general manger on Monday. I left my number so she can call me. I would ideally like a refund for a sleepless night. I left feeling tired and very unrested I would avoid at weekends
We attended a family gathering in Copdock and decided to drink and NOT drive so booked into this hotel. The reception staff were very good, very helpful with happy smiling faces. I've rated several items as average only because there is not a 'GOOD' heading and they were not quite very good - I would offer 3.5 rather than either 3 or 4. We stay on the top floor in the older section of the building, no lift and a lot of stairs. The room was spacious clean neat and tidy, we were expecting a king size bed but it was more of a queen size. The only fault was that the curtains needed some serious attention due to the odd shaped windows. We had included breakfast when booking the room and the breakfast was very good specially for a buffet, the food was excellent. Overall good value for money.
I just wanted to thank the helpful and friendly staff at this hotel! I had messed up our booking, arriving a month late for our two family rooms!, however the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The trainee receptionist was excellent and could not have been more welcoming. The front of house manager then helped sort two rooms for us! The breakfast team and house keeping staff were equally friendly and welcoming. The GM should take credit for assembling such a lovely team! I hope he/she treats them all well! :-)
Just returned home from this wonderful hotel. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough for me. Our room was lovely, clean and spacious. We had a delightful evening meal the portions sizes were just right. Breakfast was also delicious.Would definitely recommend this hotel. Hope to return very soon.
We recently stayed at this hotel as we were on route to another destination; the location of this hotel suited us for an overnight stop off. When we arrived we were greeted warmly, which was nice as we had been on the road for some time. We were shown to our room and offered assistance with our luggage (we declined the assistance as it was just overnight stop but thoughtful of them to ask). Our room was a good size and clean with the normal TV and WiFi. We had dinner at the hotel that evening as couldn't fancy driving again - it was a good decision as the dinner was lovely and reasonably priced! There was a good choice of food on the menu which was pleasing as we were late for dinner. Breakfast was buffet style but not a disappointment as there was so much choice and there was also homemade yogurts which were very, very nice! Next time we are in the are we will be staying at this hotel, we may even have a weekend break to visit the surrounding areas.
My husband and I have just spent the last 2 nights here and found the rooms to be quiet, spacious and very well equipped. We had both evening meals and breakfasts here which we really enjoyed - highly recommend the breakfast with a great choice of both hot and cold food! The service from the friendly staff throughout our stay was excellent and we would definitely stay here again.
Where do I start, we stopped at this place with a mind to staying the night, went to the bar past the deserted reception desk and waited for 10 minutes whilst the barman made a pot of tea for a customer without even acknowledging us before we managed to finally order a drink. We sat down, had to wait another 5 minutes at the bar to get a bar menu, and ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich and a portion of chips, over half an hour later in an empty restaurant and bar our food was slapped onto the table by a surly waitress who didn't say a word, and turned around befor we could even ask her for some condiments. I had to go to the bar yet again to ask for some vinegar which the barman had to go hunting for, he brought over a bottle with a dribble of vinegar in and said the other bottle had gone missing... The food was quite frankly inedible, the chips were quite obviously reheated, soggy and totally tasteless, and the sandwich looked like it had been literally thrown onto the plate without any regard to presentation or care. We duly sent the portion of chips back to the kitchen with the request that the so called chef actually try one... the barman came back and said that the chips were triple cooked and made that day and that they had never had a complaint about their food. after I finished laughing I asked the barman if he had tried one and he said no, but he would go and try one, he came back and said, he wasn't a big chip eater... This worst western needs either a manager and staff who care about their customers and their jobs or it needs closing down as it is very very poor. Avoid at all cost.
I went here today for training through my work- the actual training was brilliant but my god this venue is an absolute shambles! The interior is just as bad as the exterior- shabby, outdated, tired and dirty. It feels like you are stuck in a time warp- crazy patterned carpets that give you a headache accompany the stale smell of cigarettes and the whole building just reeks of neglect. The staff on reception today (23/08/2017) were really unhelpful and although on more than one occasion they saw me waiting at the desk, completely ignored me. They were also really rude and unhelpful to the training facilitator- I actually felt really sorry for her. The people at front desk (once they bothered to serve me) told me to wait in reception for training, when in fact my facilitator had told them to send any delegates over to the room. Consequently I was late for my training. I would just really warn anyone thinking of booking a meeting, room for the night or event to avoid this 'establishment' at all costs. I think the word tragic best sums up this place.
I mistakenly put the wrong date into my online booking but the reception staff sorted this out quickly. Excellent value with great service. The hotel is out from the town and in a quiet area, perfect for a business trip as it is fairly central to all the main towns in the area.
Room was ok but wasn't prepared properly, we had to ask for another glass, coffee and milk and there was no hand soap. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night, our waitress was Roxy who was lovely, we didn't bother with a starter but the main course took 50 mins to arrive, my husband had Gammon and chips and if you wanted peas, egg or pineapple with it it was £1.50 extra per item !! I had Ham and Leek pie which was tasty. The breakfast on the first morning was a shamble, we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and what toast brown or white we chose brown, after a long wait we had to ask where our coffee was it was delivered to the table with white toast as they didn't have any brown bread left! It's a buffet breakfast but you have to order eggs to be cooked fresh, which we did, they were given to the wrong table so we had to ask again, by the time they came we just managed to select the other hot stuff from the buffet as they started to clear it at 9.30 exactly, good job we didn't want seconds ! We were aware breakfast was served until 9.30 and when we arrived at 8.45 thought we would have plenty of time. The breakfast on the second morning was a complete contrast, it was a different member of staff, she was very attentive and everything was fine. We were here on a Travelzoo deal so good value for money but I wouldn't pay full price.
Initially I found the bin in my room to not have been emptied. Not too much of an issues as I know mistakes can be made. But then I realised there was used shampoo open in the shower, toenails and rubbish in the floor and the whole room covered in thick dust, particularly around the bed and tv. it became apparent that my room hadn't been cleaned properly. I complained and was moved to a refurbished room, which to be honest wasn't much better. Poo stains in the toilet, mould around the bath and sink taps and a yellow stained shower curtain which did not give the impression that the room had been refurbished. In the morning I complained to the manager. She told me there was an oingong issue with the cleaning staff which had resulted in many being sacked and a lot of staff were new and she blamed a lack of training. I blame this in incompetence as to me a fundamental part of cleaning a room is emptying a bin and hoovering. The manager didn't even apologise, just made excuses for her staff which lead me to believe that there is no disregard for customers or their attempt to complain. On the plus side, breakfast was ok
Clean and comfy ; plenty of car parking ; friendly staff ; free wifi ; reasonably priced. Breafast was fine - nothing special but perfectly edible. Wifi was a bit slow. I'm happy to recommend the hotel and will certainly be staying again!
Having booked a weekend package through Great Little Breaks,I would certainly return. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The restaurant was well spaced and the food was enjoyable. The staff are incredibly helpful, even with a wedding party one afternoon and evening. The duty manager,George, seemed to be always on hand keeping things running smoothly. Not air conditioned but fans are available.Great garden area for seating with under cover area for smokers. This is a great base to travel around local attractions.
I booked an executive room as away from home for a couple of days. Despite the staff being really friendly. The Exec room I had booked was really disappointing. The room was tucked up in the highest part of the building. Up several flights of stairs, through very tired and dated corridors. As much as the room was very large, the décor was certainly not of a high standard, some of the curtains were hanging off the plastic curtain tracks and it was generally not what I was expecting. The fire exit door in the room let in a lot of road noise. Looking at photos on the website, I think I would have had a better quality although possibly smaller, if I had booked a standard double.
This was my first and only visit to a best western!! For £80 and 1 single night stay I was gob smacked that breakfast was not included! What exactly are you paying £80 for as my room was pretty standard! When I said I couldn't believe this to the cold, unfriendly receptionist she shrugged and said well if I had booked with them direct it would have only been £75! What sort of a response is that? I then went to the bar to order food and sat at a table far to small for the chairs with a menu with about 5 things on! Luckily I thought one of the specials was fish with dauphinois potatoes and green beans, I will say the food was lovely but it was portioned for a 5 year old, needless to say as I was still hungry after waiting for a waitress for 10 minutes I asked for a pudding menu which she was shocked at and after waiting again as they were obviously understaffed I gave up! All I have to say is grumpy staff, extremely bad value for money and go and eat else where if your staying!!!!! And I stay away in hotels 3-4 nights a month for the last 15 years, worst value hotel I have been to!
A really mixed night. We went for a charity ball. The function room looks like a Soviet nuclear bunker from the outside but to be fair scrubs up OK inside. The night was generally good. Well hosted and really enjoyable. However the service at the bar was terrible - watching another member of the bar staff pull yet another pint with three inches of frothy head, and then spend the next two mind slowly topping it, is worse than Chinese water torture. The food itself was also indescribably bad. The soup tasted like a cup a soup, and if it had ever been within three miles of a basil leaf I would be surprised. The main was perhaps the worst dish I have ever eaten. I accept it's difficult catering for a few hundred people at once but deep frying 'roast' potatoes and then warming them back up does not a Michelin starred meal make. Every time anyone in our party tried to cut one the whole table wobbled. Add in the most tasteless boiled veg ever (which can out long before the bowl had gone round) and a slab of admittedly reasonable pork with absolutely no sauce and it was awfulness personified. To top it off my brownie was very hard and dry and the white chocolate sauce almost nine existent. I've given this review a second star simply because, despite everything, it was actually quite a fun night with casino and disco providing plenty of entertainment.
Having called the Ipswich Hotel [Best Western] my home, on and off, for almost 6 weeks so far this year (2017), I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of my visits. When you stay for such duration, you really get a sense of what the hotel is trying to achieve and how much the core staff do genuinely look after their customers. I've lost count of the number of staff who have gone out of their way to be helpful, or have cheered up my day for no reason other than to be themselves, and I will only refrain from mentioning names, as this is an open forum, and I do not want to embarrass anyone. But, I will privately raise my glass to you all :-) You guys are championing hospitality. Back to the hotel itself…. Yes, the location is not Ipswich Central (although only a £9.50 taxi fare) , and yes, there is not so much in the locality to walk to, apart from a busy cricket pitch (4 minutes), a pub (15 minutes), and Tesco (30 minutes+), but it is still a great place to use as a base by car for accessing South Suffolk. With a bar and restaurant on-site, there is no real reason to wear any shoe leather down. It is generally a quiet hotel, if you are on the grounds side, away from the London road. It is reasonably priced, easy to find, has a massive car park, great staff, a good breakfast, a glorious English Summer garden, some haunted rooms (!), an improving dinner menu (new chef) and some crazy weekend nights such as Swing bands, 80s nights, Comedy acts, etc, hosted, in the main, at their Suffolk Suite (slightly separated from the main hotel, at the rear of the premises). OK, it does cater for coach tours, wedding weekends, Proms, Charity Balls and weird business breakfast meetings that might disturb you briefly, but what do you expect? It is a hotel :-) The hotel is currently in a transition phase, whereby it is in the process of upgrading its rooms to meet the standards of the Best Western brand, for which it, and its sister hotels are now part of. The pool and spa area are being refitted, and should be back in use soon in order to meet the Best Western Plus standard. If you are a runner/jogger/cyclist there are some excellent flat circuits from this location. Being a clean freak, rooms are normally an issue for me anywhere, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the high standards here. Yes, the rooms are not new (it's not a new hotel), and there is no aircon (in any of my rooms), but most of the other requirements are met…..kettle, coffee, biscuits, tv, iron, usb charging sockets etc. A safe would be nice, although there are safety deposit boxes at reception. If you like a specific room and are returning, just ask reception if it is available. If heat is an issue (on one of the two days per year it is warm in the U.K), just ask for a fan, or open a window. And generally, if you find fault, please highlight it so that the staff can get a chance to rectify it straight away. The restaurant menu is fairly consistent, with at least 4 or 5 specials added on any given day. Slightly higher priced than I would expect for this hotel, but having eaten the whole menu several times, I can say that the chicken burger is tasty and will fill you up, as will the beef lasagne which is deceiving, and if pork and asparagus is on the specials menu, just go for it. Residents are able to place drinks or sandwiches on their rooms 24/7 with a carded pre-authorisation, which can be of benefit if you return to the hotel after the restaurant closes, as last orders is at 21:15. Breakfasts vary from full on table service, if less than 10 customers (my estimate) to pick up everything yourself from a full spread (when hotel is full). Eggs or omelette are by request, as is cheese-on toast, but expect to weep at the strength of the cheese! :-) Would I stay here again. No question. Would I recommend to family, friends, colleagues? Absolutely. As a person who frequently stays in hotels throughout the UK, rest of Europe, Asia and America, I do like to think that I understand the expectations people put on hotel services, and this hotel is right up there. This place has been like a second home to me and if I'm unfortunate not to ever return, I wish all the staff well for the future.
We stayed for 3 nights on a groupon deal and had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is in a quiet village on the outskirts of Ipswich. The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly upon arrival, our room was large and nice and clean. However, considering it was an assisted room (they don't have a disabled room) it did not have a walk in shower. The beds were really old with uncomfortable mattress and the single pillow was flat as a pancake, so not the best nights sleep. We had dinner on the first night which was tasty but a very limited vegetarian menu, so couldn't eat here all 3nights. Good choice for breakfast cereal, fruit, yogurts, juice etc plus a self service cooked breakfast. Wifi is available in all areas of hotel and also free. If the beds/pillows are upgraded we would definetly stay here again.
The staff were very friendly and the food was nice. We did have a problem with the room however. It was exceedingly hot and you could not have the window open because it was on a busy main road. Also the bed was not very comfortable and the shower was poor. There was a lovely garden where you could sit out and have a glass of wine.
very average hotel. service at reception desk not efficient at solving problems ( toilet that didn't work). The wethear was hot and no AC in our room which made it hard to sleep at night .Breakfast was good .
This was our third visit( see previous reviews) On the basis of previous stays we brought family with us. There was a problem over the booking and our family members ended up packed into a standard room (there were four of them) despite having booked the family room ( or so my wife thought) Our room was ok but our family group suffered a major ,major housekeeping fail so gross I wont detail it here. To be fair, the duty manager was as upset by what happened as our family were and offered free accommodation for all of us for the booking, paying only for the evening meal. However at breakfast we discovered we were not the only guests that night that had an issue over the state of the room. This is such a pity. It was beginning to recover, but has been sold on and into a chain. I cannot fault the way the management responded to the issue but there is no way it should have happened.
lovely room with tea and coffee, and small cakes left from housekeeping, best pint of scottish stout from the pump i have ever tasted, brill dinner, superb all you can eat breakfast, staff exceptional. nothing more to add
Had I read the reviews I probably wouldn't have considered this hotel. However I booked a deal through Travelzoo which was a bargain! Many parts of the hotel are tired and under renovation. Our deal included a recently updated room so all the furniture, carpets and beds were nice and new. A view over the garden and not the road. This would have been a really quiet room had it not been for the Pre wedding guests who didn't sleep that night. Thank you not for your consideration of other hotel guests! The evening meal included in the package was wonderful. My steak was perfection on a plate. Thanks to all the staff who served us well.
I paid £110 for the room. Personally it wasn't worth £50. The room was dreadful, stayed on the first floor 407. The room was that old, there was over 15 cigarette burns in the carpet from where it used to be a smoking room years ago. Very very dated. Shower didn't work. Wasn't overly clean. I was disgraced to pay this money for what I received. The evening meal and the bar though was very good and feels like two completely places. Food very good and the staff very helpful. The receptionist in the hotel was very good too. Just very over priced, not very nice room. No water, I had to buy a bottle.
OK so some of the reviews are a bit off putting! But fortunately they didn't put us off! Agree the hotel needs to improve it's customer service a little, agree the bedrooms are very warm in sunny weather, agree the hotel is a bit dated, but the owners have been improving the hotel, the bedrooms in particular. The superior rooms were good, spacious, the bathroom was tired, but the room was very clean and comfortable. We were there when they didn't have eggs on the Sunday morning but when you see real disasters on the news the eggs shortage seems extremely trivial! We stayed as part of a Travelzoo deal and enjoyed our stay, the staff were friendly, talkative, observant and hard working. The hotel has a slightly old fashioned appeal to it rather than some modern non descript utility ones. The food was well cooked, good quality and brilliant value for money. You could pay far more for the same thing in other hotels. The hotel rooms do not have air con so suggest you ask for a first floor room where the window can be left open in hot weather. (Take valuables with you though!) Would stay there again if another deal comes along.....
I had just one night here and things were more or less as expected from a best western...however a few things need addressing. Food orders...pie of the day.. depending on which member of staff you speak to, you get told a different variety of pie.. curry of the day..I was told it was a madras but then a korma!. Fish and chips had run out!.. worst of all were staff wandering round with plates of food, approaching every table asking, " did you order chicken?" On top of this was the woman running the bar haranguing everyone to either join the company loyalty scheme or mention her name in a trip advisor review so she would earn a commission ( you will note that I'm deliberately NOT mentioning her name!) Breakfast wasn't bad. Nice staff and friendly, but the hash browns were quite / very greasy On the plus side there was free wifi, ample parking, reasonably priced food and comfy room Would I return? For business yes
On arrival the hotel is a little dated but it was clean so couldn't complain. Check in was quick and easy, the reception manager checked us in. She was friendly and asked us if we had any plans and gave some recommendations. On finding the room (104) it was a nice surprise on how spacious it was. Modern fresh decor and a view of the garden. It was however insanely hot and the bathroom could do with a little TLC. Being on the ground floor having the window wide open wasn't really an option, but with no air con we did have to leave it open a little to get some airflow in. Would have been better for maids to leave it open prior to anyone checking in. Drinks were fairly priced but sadly we struggled to get served due to only one person working the bar and restaurant. Fully appreciate it was a Sunday, but I would expect more attentiveness. Evening meal was ok and did the job. Due to the temperature of the room sleeping wasn't the easiest of tasks, the room doors also slam very loudly!! Breakfast was a massive let down sadly as we were looking forward to this. We arrived half hour before the end to a bit of a messy and very hot dining room. We were told there were no eggs......yes, eggs..... a staple breakfast ingredient. So ended up with a "full English" of 1 sausage, 1 bit of bacon a hash brown and a shot glass of baked beans. The fruit and mini pastries weren't very appealing, and sadly the bread left out for toast had gone crusty round the edge. Probably due to the temperature (thought we were going to do the same!) Overall a mixed bag, but for the price we paid it was ok. Generally staff were friendly, but it would have been nice to have been asked how our stay was on checking out. Wouldn't go back again and it wouldn't be a hotel that I would recommend, which is a shame.
Stayed recently whilst in Ipswich on business. Staff were friendly enough and the room was clean. Not the best bathroom facilities, fixtures look tired and could do with being replaced. Overall though, a pleasant stay.
We booked a twin room but the room had a double and a single bed, which were both comfortable, however the carpet was stained and the over-bath shower was tricky to regulate as it was controlled by the bath taps. The towels were lovely though....thick and fluffy and a good size. The included breakfast was good although there did not appear to be fried, poached or boiled eggs, only rather dry scrambled ones. Carlos who was in charge of the dining room was friendly and helpful and very efficient, working hard to look after all the guests. It was nice to look out on the gardens from the dining room and it would have been lovely to sit at one of the tables out there if the sun had been just a little warmer! All in all it was a good stay and all the staff were pleasant and anxious to help.
Staff in this hotel are very attentative, doing whatever they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The hotel is currently undergoing renovation work and I think we were in the last of the rooms waiting for improvements. The bathroom was not well lit and the room was like a sauna. My advice to anyone visiting here in the near future is to ask NOT to be in room 515. Staff did provide us with a fan but the heat was unbearable and made it difficult to sleep.
We arrived at 17.45pm, friendly receptionist, she offered an upgrade for £10, we said no thanks as we were not going to be in the room long before meeting family in Ipswich for a meal but after we refused she then said 'oh you are already in an upgraded room anyway' we were concerned then that had we paid the extra we would of still been in that room anyway, in future if that offer is made we will ask to see the choice of rooms. The room was lovely and spacious, comfortable bed etc, but we couldn't shut one window and the bathroom window had no lock and could be opened from inside or out. We would like to know though what the upgrade consisted of as it certainly wasn't because of the views out of the two windows! It was a roof situated a couple of feet from the window one side and a yard with some old store rooms the other side, yet when we went down for breakfast there were loads of windows overlooking the walled garden with a lovely view, the awful view wouldn't of been so bad except that when we made the booking the room description was tea, coffee making, trouser press, TV, marbled floor, double bed, etc and views so as it had been specially mentioned of course we were expecting some nice views although I suppose it did just say views not beautiful views (see pics). Now getting onto breakfast, we arrived at 9.30, breakfast ends at 10am, the majority of tables were covered in dirty crockery, we found one that had been used but just needed a wipe. After ten minutes we were offered tea or coffee and ten minutes later it arrived but we only had one teacup to drink from, we waited another five minutes for a cup then they took our order, while all this was going on one couple who had been sitting there 15 minutes and not even been acknowledged got up and said they were off to find a wetherspoons for breakfast! We were told to help ourselves to croissants, cereal, pastries, but there were no pastries or croissants so we requested some. Breakfast arrived it was nice and then they brought us over fresh croissants which were also nice, but the tables all around us remained covered in dirty plates etc, we couldn't blame the two girls working as they were the only two and were rushed off their feet, so understaffed! When we went to check out the girl on reception was not so friendly as the girl last night and said as we had pre-authorised our debit card last night that was lucky as their lines were down to pay by card and so they would take it when the lines were back on and let us know how much it was, I told her it would be £65 as per the booking as we hadn't had any extras, she was a bit gruff back when I said that, I wasn't so happy walking out with no receipt to be honest. Overall it wasn't a great experience and we have stayed up the road at The Holiday Inn in Ipswich before which was far better so in future when visiting family will go there
First impressions on arriving is that Hotel isn't very attractive ,on entering bar area looked quite nice..My husband and I had one of the newly refurbished rooms and on first entering was very pleased. There are two things I cannot deal with in a hotel or anywhere , and that is unclean linen and other peoples hair in the plug holes.......first one, the bed linen was really clean but then the bathroom........ewwwww!!! hairs on side of bath and clogged in plug hole, went to reception and they sent cleaners back to remedy..... Dinner was just about average, I ordered lasagne which was very watery with sloppy pasta and husbands sausages ,as he described them, were the consistancy of haggis, reminded me of food you'd get at a cheap pontins. The dining room was not an inviting area for reasons I can't describe,it was as though it was a spare unfinished room and they decided to put the tables and chairs in.....staff were really friendly in bar and restaurant. although gave up waiting for one of staff to get invoice for us to sign, then found her talking to someone else in the bar area..oh well, just a picky gripe... Breakfast faired a lot better apart from the shambles to try and serve oneself with tea or coffee, which in my experience of staying at hotels is usually served at the table, .... disappointed
this was a hotel that my sister got married in at Easter Saturday and from start 2 finish it was amazing all the staff, function rooms, venue, bar,& outside area's was all clean friendly and helpful the only down side was the position of the disabled toilet it was between wedding suite and wedding reception area and although i asked for directions i still couldn't find it and there was no room to change in to my dress for the evening due
I stayed at this hotel as it's very close to my daughter's boarding school. Initial impressions of the jaded window boxes weren't great, but this was the only negative about this whole hotel. For the amount I paid for this hotel, overall it was a fantastic experience. Bar food was great in the evening, hotel was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. I'll definitely use this hotel again when visiting my daughter. Many thanks.
This is a surprisingly good hotel. My room (108) seemed newly built with a great bed and lovely view over the walled lawns. It was also extremely quiet which I really need for a good nights sleep. There was a proper ironing board and iron in the room, which is a bonus in this day and age. The breakfasts was ok. The pastries were lovely and the fruit fine. However you have to ask for fried/ poached eggs - and a neighbouring table had to wait for 10 mins for their eggs though they did say how good they were. This is a decent small hotel, and really good value for money. It is In a perfect location for Ipswich, just on the edge of the town and just off the A12 David's helpful tips 1) If you book in the rooms 101 to110 you will be in the new block which is lovely 2) The rooms 102/4/6/8/10 all face the lovely rear lawns and are very quiet 3) Make sure you ask reception the long wifi code - I didn't because I didn't thing one was needed and then spent 30 minutes trying to get online 4) this is probably the best located hotel on the edge of Ipswich literally a minute off the A12 5) The Ipswich hotel is only 10 minutes away from Flatford Mill and Constable country which is gorgeous and shouldn't be missed
We stayed here for 2 nights but didn't book this ourselves, it was booked for us. On arrival the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was quite big with a double and single bed in it, the window was very dirty on the outside. The bathroom floor was very worn , the shower was over the bath and took a bit of figuring out how to switch between bath tap and showerhead. There doesn't appear to be any sound-proofing, we were woken up the first morning before 6am by the next room's occupant using his/her TV, you could hear people using the loo and running the bath/shower. On our first night there were a lot of people for a business convention, and the restaurant appeared to be reserved for them, so we decided to look elsewhere for our evening meal and found a lovely pub within walking distance (The Brook Inn, review already done). Next morning we went for breakfast, and were told that the restauran was reserved for the business people, our breakfast would be served in the bar area. It felt a bit like being 2nd class citizens, I'm glad we hadn't paid for the hotel ourselves as I'd be rather annoyed having paid, yet not be able to have breakfast where it is normally served, as that is a much nicer room than where we had to go. That evening we decided to go back to the Brook Inn, having had a good meal there the night before. Next morning, we had breakfast in the restaurant, which was really nice. Overall, this hotel could do with a bit of TLC, as the carpet in places was vey worn, and it just looked like it had seen better days. From choice I wouldn't go back again.
Nice location and not too far to Ipswich. Our room was clean but we were put into a room with beautiful views of large black pipes and grotty back yards. It was stifling hot. The beds were really small doubles and did not sleep very well with my legs hanging out. The floor was very creaky and we tried to work out a way to plan a route to the bathroom during the night so as not to make a noise. The Staff were fabulous and the Hotel should be proud of them. Now the food was very up and down. We opted for the Carvery which was a big mistake! One piece of dried up pork, hard roast pots, unedible yorkshires. come on chef carveries should be a joy of choosing which meat to have a fresh vegetables to choose from. Oh and the asparagus soup should should be sieved and not have the strings of asparagus left in, my husband look like a walrus with stringy bits of asparagus hanging from his chops. Breakfast apart from the yum yum sausages was not much better Please tend to your plants outside dead is not a good look.
Not stayed here before. Not a bad location, but too far out to walk into the city. The suites are nice and slightly away from the main building. Could be a problem when the weather is bad. Limited dinner menu, and breakfast is a basic. Generally though it is a good hotel. It was a bit deserted in the evening after dinner.
Service is everything you would expect from a Best Western and this is a 5 star rating however rooms are very dated and stains on the carpets in rooms make it look untidy and unclean. My room had only one pillow so asked receptionist for another which arrived about an hour later. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend have the carvery.
Dear Kate, Carlos, Matthew and the whole team. We just wanted to say what a brilliant time we experienced holding our wedding at your hotel on Easter Saturday. We decided to have our wedding at the hotel after going to a few soul nights, staying over and falling in love with the Suffolk Suite. Kate was great from start to finish, answering any questions we had and advising us on various aspects of the wedding preparations, we even got to choose which bridal suite we preferred. The tasting of the food options prior to us making any definite decisions, certainly helped with the choices of food we made. Kate was very attentive throughout, helping to lay my dress out before I walked into the ceremony room and before the cake cutting and also checking everything was ok with us at various intervals during the whole day. The whole team worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure everything went without a hitch and are a credit to the hotel. The food was absolutely amazing, with lots of positive comments about it from our guests. It was also lovely to come down in the morning, to find there were tables laid out and set aside especially for the bridal party. The only criticism we would have if any, is that when my son in law arrived at about 1.30 with my two young grandsons, the family room they'd booked wasn't ready and there was no offer of an alternative room for him to get them changed in. He therefore had to get himself and the 2 year old changed into their suits in the gents toilet and find someone else to take the 6 month old into the ladies because there was no baby changing facility in the gents (see previous review). We had supplied a list of the guests that would be traveling from afar (which included this room) and asked if these rooms could be made available by this time if at all possible and in fairness some were but the family room wasn't. All in all though, we had a fantastic time and everything went very well indeed, which is down to the great teamwork and effort of everyone that works there. We'll be back very soon for Sunday lunch and to say hi to everyone. Thank you again for making our day so special and one that we will remember for many years to come. Love and best wishes to you all Julie & Andy (Mr & Mrs Clarke) xx
Me and friends stayed overnight for a soul night special. The night was really good the band and disco and plenty of dancing. Unfortunately, the rooms we stayed in need updating. Mattress were so worn you good feel the springs in the mattress. The shower was hit and miss. The general decor about the place was also in need of redecorating. The breakfast was a bit of a shambles had to ask for replacement of empty dishes. They brought the beans out and just plonked the saucepan on the side.
The room we had was too old, dirty, really cold!you don't want to take shower because bad smell! lack of customer care, poor service, the manager looked very impassive! This is a not right place for you to stay at all!
Fantastic restaurant and staff at the hotel restaurant!! Head chef Darren was very professional and polite towards our party! Definitely recommend! Food was high quality and the private room was suitable for the party size! They even made us a birthday cake which we forgot!!
Easter Sunday lunch was very impressive, 3 course carvery with a good mix of starter/dessert choice. Meat options of beef, lamb, pork or turkey, veggies roast and boiled spuds (with a mustard and honey glaze),chipolatas etc. The staff were tops, smiles and enthusiasm ( Wild man please take note), nothing was too much trouble for them, downside, if any was a tiny slice of lemon with the salmon and prawn starter and the diet coke mixer was a bit flat, but for twenty quid for 3 courses, it is a hard act to follow in the Ipswich area.
I attended my mums wedding here last night and the wedding was fantastic, however, wen my husband arrived to check in and get himself, our 2and a half yr old and our 6mnth old ready he was told his room was not ready yet. The only explanation he got was that it wasn't her fault, dont blame her, there's nothing written down. That maybe the case but wen we booked we were told the family rooms would be ready 1st and should be fine to check in around 1. (He was there at 1.30) No other room was offered for them just to get ready so they had to resort to using the toilets.... then he finds out there's no baby changing table in the men's or a seperate disabled toilet with one so has to find someone else to take our baby to get changed in the ladies! This infuriates me that places dont have baby changing that is accessible by BOTH parents.. What happens if a single father has their children with him? Where does he go? (I was made of honour so was arriving in a limo and unavailable to help) which brings me onto my next moan... the bridal party had to be chucked out of the car and risked being seen by everyone because apparently the driver had another wedding to go to, so my mum was dropped at the suffolk suite and had to walk through once everyone had taken their seats in ceremony room and the limo swiftly left.... I later find out from my husband when telling him the story that he overheard the manager telling the driver of limo that he had to leave and get the limo off the premises immediately because we turned up 5 mins early and we were blocking the car park! How ridiculous! I was very disappointed with the service from the people involved, (even the barman didn't look like he new wat he was doin and got drinks wrong) however I must say that Kate (wedding organizer I think) and Carlos done a fantastic job, they were so friendly and went above and beyond to make the day run smoothly.
A recent three night stay here cost £220 for two people, which I thought was good value. The hotel was spacious and comfortable, the service friendly and the location great - easily accessible with loads of parking. Would stay again.
Was recently at a function at the hotel, staff were all very polite and helpful. I had been informed the hotel had undergone refurbishment, however it appears not the block of rooms I was staying in, as very dated decor and bathroom. The double glazed window had also blown and was clouded with moisture . I also wasn't aware TVs were manufactured so small. But I would imagine the refurbishment will soon make its way to this section. Breakfast was a buffet style with a good selection, but would suggest the chef replaces the hot items when required, as it looked like the food had been sat on the hot plate couple of hours. Despite these few criticisms I would be happy to stay here again as the hotel is clean and well staffed.
Comfortable hotel for business trip, very clean, excellent value, good parking, but best of all is food, daily evening carvery was delicious and breakfasts good too. Room was spacious. It's some way out of centre of town centre but easy to find and get in/out.
I have, recently, written a less than flattering review of a Best Western hotel...I did finish it by saying I usually enjoy staying at their hotels though and this proves that point. Elegant, friendly, good service , reasonable food, clean room and ensuite, at a reasonable price. I have said it before .. (But that won't stop me now ) It ain't rocket rocket science .. The above is all we travellers want!
This hotel is good value for money. (Compared with Premier Inn prices I would say excellent value). You definitely need to have transport as it's a little way out. Good position to reach Ipswich where you have access to pretty much anything you want to do. Food is a little expensive in my opinion. ( But then I tend to go for the cheaper option away from the hotel). As far as the bed and room is concerned, it's clean and comfortable. Has tea and coffee making facilities which you can replenish if you choose to. I liked it. It served my sole purpose to have somewhere to stay whilst visiting family.
We selected the hotel for a 5 room booking for a family funeral, having checked specifically that our special need for a 3 bedded disabled-access room could be accommodated. So we reserved the rooms we needed 3 weeks in advance, including the unique room 401. However, when we arrived, we found that 401 was not available - despite the receptionist acknowledging the note on the computer saying "Do NOT switch this booking for any other room", this had indeed happened. We were therefore given a standard double. And - "no, sir, we do not allow three people to occupy any of our rooms". The curious part is that no-one on duty when we tried to check-in appeared to know that the hotel had ANY three-bed rooms, or ANY disabled access rooms. We were assured that the standard double was exactly the same as the three-bedded disabled room. They are as badly informed about their own facilities as their computer seems to be. So, the night before I buried my father, I slept on a family member's lounge floor, and our disabled guest was unable to access the bath. I declined the proferred bottle of wine. Not even close - and all of a sudden it seems I'll be driving tonight... And I'm still waiting for my fried egg.
Several guests attending a funeral were pre-booked. A muddle by hotel staff resulted in the son of the deceased having to sleep on the floor and a disabled teenager and her mother being given the wrong room. Our room was OK but he bathroom décor had definitely seen better days, although you would not have noticed through the steam as the extractor fan wasn't working! The evening meal was not bad although the carvery only offered one roast meat. The cheese and biscuits were not up to much not helped by one of the butter pats being rancid. The breakfast was a bit of a lottery. The dishes of cooked items ran out rapidly and took an age to be replenished, except for the scrambled eggs which most diners avoided as it was difficult to pry the dried-up offering from the dish. Requests for hot water to dilute the over-strong tea had to be repeated and a promised fried egg never arrived. We should have gone back to the Premier Inn where we had an excellent breakfast on the way down. On trying to book out we were not allowed to leave until the bill for the previous evening's meal had been paid (this was being covered by the son of the deceased, also staying at the hotel so there was very little chance of him doing a bunk without paying!). Altogether not the sort of relaxed stay that we would have all wanted during a time of loss and sadness.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn't find fault with anything. Nice to have quality lined curtains. I know they may add little to the experience, but it showed that quality mattered. The bacon and sausages in the breakfast were superb. I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.
