Je m’inscris Hotel was very clean. This is a older hotel but very well taken care of with modern updates. The pool could of been a little warmer for me but it was still able to swim in unlike the last two hotels we stayed at that the pool was so cold you couldn't even use it. Beds were very comfortable and room was quiet. We were not in a room next to the pool which can be loud at times. Love that they had two luggage racks in the room instead of just one. Decor in the room was very nice. Attached restaurant was very good.
Had a great stay at the Dubuque BW Plus. Our room was wonderful, quiet, clean with everything working perfectly. Would definitely recommend staying at this BW. The hotel also had lots of amenities, Large indoor pool, ping pong, billiards, hot tub, game room, fitness room, etc, although we weren't able to take advantage of those things this trip.
Always a nice, clean room. Pool, exercise room, good breakfast included. Staff is helpful and friendly. Located near shopping. Rooms may be poolside or in quiet hallways. Restaurant attached to motel is open in evenings. Meeting rooms available.
The most important thing about this hotel, the room was clean. Pluses: They offer a free breakfast, have a restaurant on premises open late, and provided a free shuttle for our group. Negatives: There are no clock radios in the room, no work station or computer available for guests, housekeeping is only every second day, not daily. They also messed up my bill and screwed me out of $20.
The positives: Although my room request was not filled as had been promised, the location of the room was adequate for my needs. Room temperature controls worked well. The A/C was not noisy. The bed was very comfortable. The pillows were very small. Five were available, but a sixth would have been nice. I probably could have asked for another pillow, but for the 3 days that we stayed, we didn't see a room attendant until late afternoon when they were leaving. We did not have room makeup for any of the days that we stayed. Large Tv was easy to operate and to locate our favorite channels. Microwave was adequate for our needs. The room refrigerator froze our beverages occasionally, but not all the time. I was glad we had a refrigerator though because we have medicine that must be kept cool. Towels and washclothes are adequate. Bathtub shower had good water pressure with hot/cold handles that were easy to operate. Generally speaking, the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. We didn't have or need a lot of contact with front desk staff. Old Chicago attached restaurant provides complimentary breakfasts every day. Breakfast attendants are always working to keep food containers filled. Most of the food was maintained at an adequately hot temperature. The negatives: One of the food containers at breakfast was not keeping the pancakes/eggs hot. In our room experience: no body lotion. Shampoo & conditioner were not enough for multi-day stay. I grabbed extra of each from the maid cart on Monday. The "popcorn" button on the microwave does not work. The turntable does not turn when a bag of popcorn is popping. The telephone in the room does not work. I tried to call front desk - it was a constant busy signal. No room alarm clock. Are you having theft issues. Would have been nice to have a clock in the room instead of relying on our mobile phones. The biggest issue was that the coffee maker in the room did not work. I got only about 1/8 of a cup everytime I tried to use it. I finally gave up on Tuesday morning. We both like a LOT of coffee, so we missed the easy access and availibility from the 4th floor to the lobby for coffee.
We got a room on the 4th floor all the way to the west end of the building. The whole night, the HVAC system outside was kicking off and on. It sounded like a jet engine in reverse to slow down. So, to say the least, there wasn't any sleep for my family. I suggested to the front desk that the room should be made into storage instead of a sleeping room.
This is a rather large hotel. It has a central pool and game area and the day we were there a lot of kids seemed to be having a good time. That said, if you are after peace and quiet, you should avoid the rooms near the pool area. The hotel honored our request for a ground floor room and it was in a quiet area. The room itself was excellent with microwave, refrigerator, and lots of desk space. I used the treadmill in the fitness center and it worked well. Breakfast is in an adjacent restaurant so there was plenty of room for the many guests. Breakfast was good with lots of options. I thought the room rate was too high the day we were there but apparently some event was going on and I guess they get what the market will bear.
Highly recommend this hotel. Very nice pool and game room. Breakfast was delicious and staff was helpful.
This place is teen friendly, pool is 9ft deep. Rooms are clean, breakfast is delicious. It is loud until 11pm, I don't mind the noise, but if you don't like kids making noise, this place may not be for you.
Room type was accommodated-very unusual these days. Breakfast was better than other hotels. Ample parking. Everything worked. Beds were so-so but beds are very subjective and could hear crinkling with movement. Still use small plastic bottles and in general, too much plastic. Non-smoking.
No bugs! Great service! Comfy beds. A little dated but clean. The pool/recreation area is awesome. Wasn't a fan of the free breakfast (little variety; rude breakfast staff). Will stay again!
Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly at check in. The maid service staff was wonderful. Needed extra towels one morning and they were quick to help out. Breakfast in the morning was good. Food hot and well stocked. It was nice to have a room away from the atrium as we were not there to use the pool and games (ping pong, billiards, air hockey). Workout room was also decent. Seemed a little pricey for the area but we had a group rate so that helped.
The one item We need when checking in and out is the Cart. Besides wearing clothes. The Breakfast in the mornings was delicous.
Pool deck area with ping pong tables were GREAT! Allowed great team building and memories made!! Parents got to hang out without feeling like sardines. Spacious and sunny.
Went for the field of dreams tournament. Many other teams there. I would only stay if you could be assure you weren't surrounding the atrium by the pool. Screaming children (and adults) until 11 pm right outside your door echoing so loud they feel like they are in the room with you and it starts at 8am again in the morning. Beds were horribly uncomfortable. Some of the rooms smelled of smoke.
I called to ensure there was a shuttle to the casino and was told there was. I arrived on a Sunday and was told they don't provide the shuttle on Sundays and service would start at 5 pm Monday. Fine. I checked back Monday and was told I could get dropped off, but not picked up. Not so helpful. Also, I could not order online or over the phone at the restaurant, but instead had to go in and wait for food. Parents let their kids run up and down the hallway, and it sounded like they were coming through the walls. Nice bed and pillows.
Never received the room we requested stated it was our 45 anniversary but wouldn't upgrade was told there was adult swim in morning and at night but apparently only at night checking out 4 cop car there not sure what that was all about would not recommend
if you're looking for a hotel that has a lot within it to keep you occupied pool/whirlpool. Game room, ping-pong table with a patio area set up next to the indoor pool with tables or you can sit and enjoy a bite to eat while watching the kids play. This is the place. They have a sports bar/restaurant attached to the hotel and anything you would want to go see , such as shopping ,dining, movies ,museums, theater are all within a 10 minute drive. The hotel is quiet the beds are comfortable. It's always a relaxing fun visit here.
I stayed 2 nights for a business trip, it was a great experience overall. Weather was pretty bad, snowing and they kept the parking lot pretty clean. Temperature within the hotel premises was also optimal, especially how crazy the weather was.
I went to a conference here, and the weather turned bad and I had to spend the night. The conference center was very nice, the food was good, the fitness area had great equipment (a Brand new Peloton bike), and the room was very clean and everything was in working order. All staff that I dealt with was very nice and helpful.
Front desk very helpful. Good breakfast. Nice pool area. Friendly maintenance staff. Not enough luggage carts though. Convenient location. Old Chicago service is very very slow. Need more on their menu.
Highly recommend this as first choice for staying in the Dubuque area. We stayed here several years and we received the same great service during our latest stay. Close to Downtown attractions and very convenient to the greater area.
Excellent ! We appreciated the dedicated personnel and the service at the restaurant was excellent We would go back again for sure We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The location was perfect and very convenient since we were closed to many accommodations (restaurants shopping and close to downtown
Facility is as advertised. Room was very clean and the staff was friendly. The adjacent restaurant was a plus. Location was convenient for our visit with family. I would recommend this Best Western Plus fort travelers visiting Dubuque.
Well. There was a mouse in my room so theres that. Otherwise it wasnt bad i guess. He didnt eat much. And was fairly quiet. He took the couch leaving me the bed which i found to be very consideRAT. Really the rest of the stay was mice...i mean nice.
Best Westerns are usually nice and this one is above average. Building layout is odd and confusing but once you find your way around, it has everything, a very nice pool area in an atrium, restaurant, well-equipped exercise area. Best asset is the staff who were very nice and helpful everywhere.
Clean and comfortable room. Friendly staff at check in. Responsive when we had a minor issue in our room. We have stayed here multiple times and have not been disappointed. Great base when seeing family in Wisconsin and Illinois. Easy to get to needed amenities in Dubuque. A go to hotel for us.
This hotel was great. We traveled to Iowa for a baseball trip to Iowa Dreams Baseball Tournament. The hotel was clean, close to Walmart and Target, Chick-ful-a and other restaurants. It has a nice indoor pool with a pool table, two ping pong tables and a game room with an air hockey table. These extras were perfect activities to keep all of the boys on our team happy and engaged in fun competition during our stay. Overall great hotel…I highly recommend!!!
Bad service. Both the woman checking us in and the one who checked us out. I asked for a different room at check-in and was told that was all there was available and clearly there were several unused rooms. The air was broken in the room and the room was 80 degrees and when I mentioned it at Check out, not even an apology or acknowledgement she just wrote it on a paper. Issues happen, things break, but poor service on both ends is hard to excuse.
I just stayed at the Best Western in Dubuque. It was nice and clean, but way overpriced. They offer housekeeping only every 4 days, so I guess, I'm supposed to wash my face and butt with the same washcloth and towel for 4 days. What am I a cowboy on the trail? They did allow you to get extra towels, but you have to stop at the desk every day, ridiculous. So my towels and garbage built up for 4 days. COVID really killed hotel amenities. Hopefully we will get them back one day, but at the Best Western Dubuque, it's not today. Don't stay here if you enjoy clean towels and housekeeping during your stay.
We stayed at this hotel as a baseball team with parents and kids, before we arrived we were told that each room with 2 beds was for each adult in the room any additional was $10 extra per nite….? Then the front desk staff upon check in couldn't get the rooms correct some got rooms with people in them already. They need work at this hotel but would stay again.
We had a king sweet for us and the kids. First glance was great. Had a pull out couch big bed, Kitchenette. But the dishes we could use were dirty. There was garage in the drawers. The AC was very, very dusty. And other things. We were told we couldn't check in early because our room wasn't ready. That's fine but to see how not clean it was sucked. There was an odd not comfortable pad on the bed too we had to take off.
Good breakfast, good parking, good restaurant on site open fairly late. Felt safe in the area. Close to the river museum. Didn't swim but pool looked nice. If you want a room overlooking the pool you will need to request that. Overall nothing super fancy,( it's a Best Western) but good value for the money
Wonderful place to stay, whirlpool room is amazing, close to food and bars. Would definitely stay here again, the price isnt cheap cheap and it isn't overly expensive at all. Nice pool area as well, i didnt use it but it looks awesome.
Take it from me - do not get a room by the pool. We stopped here on our road-trip and the entire hotel was filled with 13 yo boys playing in a baseball tournament. After a long day on the road, we wanted to make it an early night and the noise from the pool area was insane. We had to shove extra pillows against the door jamb and put tissue in our ears to block out the sound. There is a quiet time at 10p and fortunately all of the kids and their parents cleared out by the curfew but there was no way we could sleep until later. The hotel itself is dated but clean and staff was pleasant. Do not book this hotel if you're hoping for a relaxing/quiet evening. Or if you do, request a room in the other building away from the pool.
I travel around Iowa for work and this is one of my favorite hotels. I've been staying there for many years. The rooms are clean, roomy, comfortable and up to date. Beds are very comfortable. They have a great complimentary breakfast and a very nice pool area. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to accommodate their guests. There is a bar/restaurant attached to the hotel and plenty of other restaurants nearby. I always enjoy staying at this hotel!
Will Be Back, They had a great Breakfast….Nice pool and Hot Tub. The only complaint I have, is if your shuttle isn't running, please take it off your website.was able to use it one day, but not the next day..
Front desk was AMAZING! Mara went above & beyond. She was extremely caring & helpful. Also, Karia at front desk is another Gem !! She truly made me feel at home and was extra helpful. Shuttle driver was super NICE. Maintenance was great! The whole staff deserves a raise! Breakfast was Excellent with delicious selections & variety. Talented cooking crew. King room was large and quiet. Perfect location. Highly recommend this place. Impressive!!!
Very clean. Large pool area with separate entertainment area. Accessible rooms are set up with plenty of room. Beds are very comfortable. Environmental controls easy to set. Would recommend bringing an additional blanket for each bed for sleeping comfort!
Extremely happy with hotel and staff. Pool area was clean. Room was clean. Breakfast was good, no bacon though. Vending machines and ice machine were not working on main floor, thats ok though. Will be coming back!
Nice and clean hotel. Bed was a little uncomfortable as it is firmer than I am used to. Room was clean. Pool and hot tub were nice. The staff at the front desk were helpful and courteous. Would stay again for a night but only longer due to the bed.
It was very busy on the weekend, but we never had to wait for a table at breakfast or at the restaurant during dinner. The rooms were good sized and quiet. If you do want a quiet room then I would recommend asking fir a room away from the pool area. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choices. The exercise room was a little small for a hotel this size. The traffic while pulling into the hotel (if you're turning across traffic) could be a long wait. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if the opportunity came up again in the future.
This hotel has a lot of nice features. So, it is a good place to stay if you want things to do in the hotel. There is a dome with a pool and whirlpool as well as ping pong and pool tables. The breakfast is pretty good as well.
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and this has been my second trip to Michigan by car. I have stayed in Best Western properties the whole way and I've never been disappointed. The rooms are always clean and nicely decorated. The morning breakfasts are really healthy and good. The DuBuque property was the best I've seen so far. Also my dog was allowed to stay with me which is very important to me
We stayed in the honeymoon suite and it was spacious and we had our own hot tub. Also the main pool and hot tub was excellent. Our room was right by it. We enjoyed the bar/restaurant Old Chicago and went to lots of nearby restaurants, wine bar, & the river walk. We need a getaway and it was perfect!
Great hotel. Friendly staff at front desk and nice breakfast. After reading not so stellar reviews on other hotels in Dubuque we decided to stay here and we were not disappointed. Clean room, comfy bed and quiet property made it a great stay. Would recommend if you're looking for somewhere in Dubuque to stay.
We were here for a week and really enjoyed this hotel. They have a very nice pool area that is enclosed but you feel like you're outside. They have ping pong tables, a game room, fitness center, laundry etc. It was nice having a restaurant (Old Chicago Pizza) and bar on the premises, so we would go there each night for an evening beverage and or a bite to eat. They use the restaurant area for their morning breakfast and it was nice and large so there was plenty of seating for everyone. Breakfast was good too! The only thing we wished the rooms had was more storage to put our things, as we were there for a week but had to partially live out of our suitcases. But we would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Stayed here recently while in town visiting family. The hotel commons areas were all clean, but felt a little tired. That being said, the room looked to have been updated with fresh carpet and paint, and was nice and clean. We were in a section of hotel that did not overlook the pool, which was perfect for us, as our kids are grown. Breakfast was nice, and was served until 10:30, which was helpful. Have no complaints about our stay, and would recommend this hotel to others
Friendly service. Hotel is clean and quiet. Great location to fairgrounds. Breakfast is served in restaurant next door. Good offering of food. Large hotel that has a huge pool activity area. Pool table, card tables and nice Pool. Rates are very reasonable.
We had a one night stay here on a 10-day Midwest road trip. Our room was very comfortable and spacious, the breakfast, which was in the connected Old Chicago, was delicious, and the staff was very helpful and courteous. We didn't get to use any of the amenities, but they looked nice as well. The extra charge for our dog was $20/night, which was very reasonable. Since we arrived late after a long drive and some hiking, it was very convenient to have the Old Chicago connected to the hotel, and their patio is also dog friendly.

We had a lovely time, the room was clean and in good shape. The pool was pretty large, as well as the hot tub. Lots of places to hang out around the pool area. The breakfast had a nice selection of hot and cold items to choose from.
The hotel gets an "A" for cleanliness. Our suite was roomy and well appointed. There was a nice free hot breakfast in the adjoining restaurant. Friendly, helpful employees...I would definitely stay there again if in the Dubuque area.
We had many issues with our room that were unable to be addressed with management until the next day, late morning. We had blood stains on the comforter, scum lines/rings in the jacuzzi tub as well as dirty/printed mirrors, crumbs on the desk chair and under the desk, bugs on the window sill and squished on the ceiling, dust caked on the air-conditioning unit, and cleaning rags left for washcloths. They do not have management available at the facility or at least on call 24/7. The front desk stated they had three managers and none of them were in. This caused many inconveniences and incurred additional charges as we were then late in our scheduled arrival home. The staff did as much as possible, to the best of their abilities, until management arrived. This facility may need additional training/better management to increase quality.
The hotel was very nice and clean.the pool was heated and clean.the hot tub was awesome.the room was clean.the breakfast was very delicious.only one issue was at our last day.the cook did not show for work and there was no hot breakfast.but still from the hotel make grab and go so I can't take stars because of only one thing that is not the hotel fault.it was the cook.definitely recommend not only this best western...we always stay at best western because we know there are very good hotels.
City of Dubuque Water Boil Order. Hotel offered 1 bottle of water per guest. Tough spot for the hotel but a bottle of water is really no help. Free breakfast offered, however, very average at best. The second day no employees showed at all so no breakfast. Hotel offered no compensation. No room service and was extremely high priced for what you receive. Only as a last resort!!!
Staff very friendly. Rooms are pretty clean but could use a little more in the way of dusting and wiping down things like the phone and lamp bases. Restaraunt food was very good but breakfast was just average.
Hotel was very nice. Clean room, comfortable bed. Unique open pool area concept. Quiet location with in close proximity to gas stations, fast food locations, and shopping. Lots of parking available. I will be looking to stay again when back in the area.
I can not think of a negative thing to say about this hotel. Easy access on Hwy 20. The registration staff has been excellent. Consistently friendly and helpful staff. About the quickest check-in I have ever experienced. There is a small "shop" near the registration desk with travel essentials and snacks in case guests have forgotten items. This is an older hotel, but the lobby furnishings and fixtures are modern. (Except for the old couches that should be replaced.) The room is large, spotlessly clean, freshly updated paint, bedding and draperies. New chair and ottoman. The furniture is a bit dated, but it is all clean and shiny polished wood furniture. The lighting fixtures have two outlets on every base. The desk has two extra outlets at desktop level and 2 receptacles for charging devices. The bed is comfortable with 5 small pillows. A portable refrigerator and microwave are in the cabinet with the large TV. The bathroom has a large mirror over the sink with an adequate-sized countertop. One of the light switches controls the very bright lighted mirror over the sink. The second switch controls the bright light over the regular sized tub. This tub is fairly low for easy step in with a hand grab bar and a seat for accessibility. The large shower head has great water pressure. The towels are large and fluffy. There is a countertop with a large mirror and bright light outside of the bathroom with a coffee pot. The extra counter space was great for hair and makeup needs while the bathroom was occupied. The large closet has an iron and ironing board. This is a very large and comfortable room. Next to the lobby is a glass-enclosed swimming pools and recreation area. Other than a little bit of chlorine smell in the hallways, the room areas are not disturbed by the activity in the pool area. Attached to this hotel is an Old Chicago restaurant. The great part is that breakfast buffet is provided for hotel guests. The buffet includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage links, muffins, an assortment of cereals, small containers of yogurt, bananas and apples. It is a very nice breakfast buffet with a large dining area separate from the Old Chicago dining room. This hotel is an easy, close drive to shopping areas as well as to the downtown, historic areas of Dubuque.
Location on HWY 20 has an Old Chicago restaurant attached and that is where the breakfast was served. The room was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was ample. The staff was very hospitable. A pool and a game room and a workout room are all available.
This was a perfect hotel with our 7-year-old grandson while visiting Dubuque. We enjoyed the indoor pool and the other activities available, pool, ping pong, air hockey. Having a family-friendly restaurant attached to the hotel was a huge plus. The staff was friendly and everyone wanted to make sure our stay was positive.
Awesome greeting as we walked in the door from Maggie. We had reservations but the room locations weren't ideal for my mom and our room and she searched for several minutes and got us exactly what we needed. Maggie was extra helpful and friendly. The rooms were great and we loved the activities available. (ie. large indoor pool, hot tub, pool table, ping pong, air hockey, and a couple video games. We had a great stay!
I was in Dubuque to visit a friend and chose this hotel because the other ones seemed to have sketchier reviews. I stayed for two nights and overall I was satisfied with my choice. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room itself was clean and very nice, it definitely met my standards (which is noteworthy because I am a clean freak). Just a few mild issues: the pillows were awful. They were so lumpy and I could never really get comfortable. I wish I had just brought my own. Also, the noise is a potential issue. If you are planning to go to bed before 10pm, either do NOT stay here or bring good ear plugs. The rooms are poolside and not very soundproof, which means that before 10pm you have to listen to a lot of obnoxious screaming kids and splashing. I normally would not go to bed that early anyway but the first night I was in Dubuque I had an awful headache from traveling, so I kind of had to. The noise level made it impossible to sleep. Between the noise from the pool, the bad pillows and the loud air conditioner that kept turning on and off, I'd be surprised if I got even an hour or two. Breakfast in the morning was kind of basic and I hated how sticky and gross the floor was but it was alright otherwise. Despite my complaints, whenever I come back to Dubuque to see my friend in the future, I'll probably go with this hotel again. I'll just bring a pillow and earplugs.
Booked family reunion room block including suites, and they didn't honor the suites upon arrival, gave them away from under us. Families that booked suites were not happy. Smokers and ashtrays by entrance doors brought in smoke. Towel bar in room broken. Coffee was weak.
Management & staff moved with a sorta grace that resembled a luxury cruise ship. Friendly, helpful & knowledgeable not only about the property but what & where to dine locally. Service was impeccable!
We stayed for two nights visiting friends. Our room was quiet, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was the usual. We appreciated everyone social distancing. Check in was fine. Location good for all our sightseeing.
We visited this BW with our grandson after school ended in June. Although we had a reservation, check-in was not easy. We arrived shortly after check-in time, but we ended up standing around the counter with several other people for about an hour because rooms were not yet available. The front desk staff were reasonably cool about the situation, keeping everything relaxed. I did notice when I checked out that front desk staff were telling people that they could not delay checkout. If the motel cannot meet their check-in times, they should compensate those who are impacted. Our room was on the second floor in the atrium, overlooking the pool. The room was clean but smelled musty and was a bit worn (e.g., the windows did not close properly and were broken, carpet was worn, bathtub did not drain). The pool area is open until 10 most nights and 11 on weekends; if you go to bed before these times, be aware that there may be noise from the pool. I cannot recommend room 211, which is next to a large king room with a hot tub on the 211 wall. The noise of the hot tub was easily heard in our room after we went to bed. We enjoyed the pool area, and the pool is superior to most motel pools, with a true deep end. The atrium also has a hot tub, a pool table, and some ping pong tables, with many chairs and tables. The motel appears to be popular with people with families, and the pool area was occasionally quite crowded. Breakfast was in the adjacent restaurant, and it was well done, with plenty of seating. The motel is conveniently located just east of Dubuque, and it has easy access and ample parking. We may stay here again, but we would avoid weekends and would request a room away from the atrium.
We stayed for 2 nights in a whirlpool room. There was a king bed, night stands on either side of the bed, 2 chairs. There was a microwave, refrigerator, and 2 small drawers in the stand that the tv was on. A desk area and an area with coffee maker made up the rest of the room. The whirlpool was in the bathroom along with a glassed shower, & 2 sinks. The toilet was in a separate very small room. The room seemed to be clean. We did find 2 spiders on the floor by the toilet. The ceiling over the bed what appeared to be water damage. The hotel has an indoor pool area with pool and ping pong tables and jacuzzi. The rooms are around the pool area and are not well insulated. We could hear noise from the pool area until around 11pm. There is a breakfast buffet included. Just the typical one with eggs, sausage, pancakes, & cereal. There is no coffee except at breakfast. Check in and out where quick. Hotel staff was friendly. Overall, the stay was okay. We would probably stay elsewhere in the future.
We found out the 2nd day of our stay when we came back to the hotel in the evening that there was NO housekeeping staff available and therefore no clean towels or room cleaning or bed made for the whole time we were there which was arrived on Friday, left on Monday. If you stay at this hotel, be sure to bring along your own blanket, the room was cold even with the heat turned up. I took off the coverlet from the other queen bed in the room to keep us warn. Be prepared for a not so warm breakfast in the adjoining restaurant which is buffet style, same fare every day. Some of the hotel staff are not friendly, some are very friendly. Be sure to talk to the friendly ones who don't make you feel like a fool and/or a liar.
awesome place very friendly very clean and affordable loved the restaurant the pool and my room was awesome the staff was friendly all was a great time I will stay there every time im in Dubuque and would refer everyone else to
Beds are a little on the harder side which made sleeping comfortably a little difficult, rooms are very clean! Staff is very courteous and helpful, location is great, lots of nearby stores and restaurants!
We were in town guests that paid $200 for a hotel room, so our kids could swim. We were very disappointed with the large number of people that were not hotel guests and just there with large groups to swim. Many people came in clothed, changed into suits in the bathroom, and then left when finished swimming. Children were largely unattended in the pool while parents drank beer in the seated area.
The hotel was a great stay. I was here for a basketball game, and we have stayed at mini hotels, and this is the nicest one. The Hot tub is nice, and also the pool. The food was very good for breakfast, and had good prices for other meals.
Absolutely love this place! The rooms are so cozy and always clean. The staff is very friendly and the facility is great. The pool and hot tub are a ton of fun! Also the breakfast is delicious! Will definitely be coming back!
Really nice rooms! Very clean. Amazing pool area and great conference rooms and even a theatre room to accommodate any kind of trip whether business or pleasure. The people were also very kind. Just a great experience overall!
The service was excellent. If we ever had any issues they were always willing to come right away and help us. The breakfast was very good for a hotel breakfast exceeded all my expectations there was also an issue with our Internet and there was no delay in them getting someone on top of it. They were very helpful.
Love the proximity to pretty much everything you would need with this hotel. It sits back up on the hill so it's quiet but it's within a 5 to 10 minute driving distance to almost everything. Always a good stay here if I do run into any problem they are quick to address it apologetic and always welcoming. I love their pool with the game room pool table and ping-pong table. My grandkids come here often for pool parties they love it as well. It's a nice place to get together with family. Very convenient that the restaurant is attached as well.
I would definitely stay here again if in the area. We loved the attached Old Chicago restaurant attached. Bed was very comfortable and room was clean. The pool area looked amazing but we did not use it. The hallway carpet is looking a little dated and dirty but that the only area I see that needed attention.
We love the hotel, staff and the pool. Best Western is our place we choose every time. Our family always has a blast at the pool. The staff are always accommodating and provide the best customer service.
I specifically asked for adjoining rooms, because of children, when booking. I stated to the front desk associate when booking, if this was not a possibility I would book at another hotel. I was told there would not be a problem. We were celebrating/visiting family for Christmas. Upon check-in I was told there were no adjoining rooms available. Because of that my family had to split up during our stay. The hotel had accommodated a bunch of basketball teams for a tournament. Very, very poor service and it RUINED our family Christmas break!!!!!
We stayed here as part of a youth baseball team during a tournament at Field of Dreams. Best Western is not my first brand to ever stay at, or even consider, however, this hotel fit all of our needs - dogs accepted, very family friendly with a large pool and huge pool "deck" area, game room, complimentary breakfast, free ample parking and also had suites which several of our families needed. We couldn't have selected a better hotel! The staff, everyone from front desk to engineering to the Director of Sales was always pleasant, accommodating and so kind. While our kids are well-behaved when traveling for these tournaments, they are still kids. The staff here was 100% on top of catering to kids and families - right down to taking our pizza boxes for us when we told them over and over again that we would place them in a dumpster. They were happy to break multiple one dollar bills to play games or hand out extra towels. While I don't think we will be back for this tournament, I would highly encourage anyone who is looking for a hotel for that purpose to stay here!
We booked a block of rooms for our wedding because they said they would have a shuttle that would come get us at the end of the night, and they went back on their word the week of wedding. There were no Ubers/Lyfts available and we were stuck at the reception at the end of the night looking for a ride from any family members still there.
This hotel has a very good breakfast buffet. So, that is something you will not want to miss. It does have a nice pool area with a whirlpool. I did notice that the walls are fairly thin in the hotel. So, I could hear much more than I wanted to hear. The weekend I was there, I paid a lot more than you should pay for this hotel.
Very nice hotel, we decided to stay in Dubuque and travel to Galena as it was quite a bit cheaper to do so. The drive was lovely and very easy back and forth. Centrally located with lots of food options and shopping too!
Beware! I paid in cash $285 and they charged my credit card after I left! Thought she could could keep my cash and charge me without getting caught! I had to call when I got home to bring it to their attention. I asked her before I paid if they already charged my card as I told them NOT TO as I was going to pay with cash, and she said NO. Then she charges me after I leave to pocket my money!
This is a great stay! The pool area and whirlpool are great for family fun and adults. Rooms surrounding the aquatic area have nice big windows for viewing, which is great for grandma. If you want a quieter room, I'd recommend not being pool side - as it echoes a lot near the pool area. Old Chicago Pizza is next door, and has wonderful offerings. The sports bar is really nice, with many screens, tons of beers on tap. Our room was clean and quiet. The breakfast offering in the morning is top notch, hot breakfast offerings and lite offerings as well. Such a nice stay we had! I highly recommend!
Stayed here with family for a college visit. Very affordable and what a great pool area. Check-in and check-out were extremely quick and easy. Attached restaurant had very good pizza. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.
We truly enjoyed our stay. Joyce helped us at checkin as my online reservation didn't go through but she found a great room for us and she checked with us to make sure all was ok. The hot tub was wonderful after a long day on the road and it was fun to be in the atrium when it was pretty cool outdoors. The included breakfast (served at Old Chicago) was great, especially the pancakes that came fresh from the kitchen. Our room was on fourth floor, facing the back and was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We would certainly stay here again.
We stayed in a whirlpool suite for 3 nights. The front desk employees were really nice. The look inside of the hotel is cool..open in the middle with a pool, hot tub, ping pong, pool, etc. Pros: Big room, shower pressure excellent, tub worked great. Staff very nice The Cons: elevator broke, vending machine broke, our roof by the window constantly leaked the first night into day 2 ( we did let them know didn't seem like a big deal. Looked like its definitely leaked before), the king bed was super uncomfortable, walls are thin & you can hear everyone. Oh the first night power went out but it came back up pretty quick. Maybe 20 mins? Breakfast was fine. Don't know where it is located unless you ask, need better signage. Surprised we had nice hot pancakes & eggs. Toast was really tasty. I think this is a good place for families with small kids. Not great if you're looking for a quiet getaway in a comfy bed. BW Note: please get a new mattress!!
We have family in Dubuque and have stayed in several different hotels. For overall price and quality, the Best Western is a great place to stay. It is well kept, very clean and and has a great staff! It will be our go to hotel from now on! Great breakfast included, great pool area, and comfy beds. We have not eaten at the Old Chicago restaurant that is inside so I'm not sure about that. It is not downtown so you cannot walk to the attractions there but is still close enough, and the hotel quality makes it worth it to have to drive. We did notice that we could easily hear the people in the room next to us and in the hall but it was quiet when we were ready to sleep. Very happy with both of our stays here and will definitely come back!
3 weeks ago, I walked into the Best Western Plus for the first time in 18 months. The 'welcoming team' immediately said hello and started talking with me like they missed me and like we hadn't missed a beat at the same time. Any anxiousness I was feeling about getting everything set-up quickly, was totally eliminated by their helpfullness and "we've got your back" mindset. I have been renting conference rooms from the Best Western Plus for over 20 years. Through snowstorms, last minute changes, and a pandemic, without hesitation, they have been accommodating every step of the way. WITH A GENUINE SMILE! They know me and see me as a person, not just a transaction. I look forward to greeting them every time I walk in! If you are looking for a reliable, affordable location for your next business meeting, I highly recommend you call Diana Schulz at Best Western Plus!
I had read other Trip Advisor comments about not getting a room by the pool if you wanted quiet. I did that, but got a room overlooking the back parking lot which was taken over by construction vehicles and their workers socializing and drinking for a few hours 2 of the 3 nights I stayed at this hotel. Not only could I hear it in my room (it wasn't late, but was nonetheless an annoyance and included music one night), but it also prevented me from parking in that lot as I couldn't find a spot close to my room and, if I could have found a spot, didn't feel comfortable walking past that. I cover my ears when sleeping, but would guess that I would have been woken up early if I hadn't. I won't stay there again...will look for a quieter place whose guests are traveling for leisure.
This is an older hotel but has been nicely updated and is very clean. The last time we were here they had a grab ‘n go breakfast due to Covid but they have returned to a nice buffet breakfast that is served in the attached restaurant. Everyone we came in contact with was extremely friendly and welcoming, including the maintenance guys and the housekeeping staff. This was our third stay in the last year and we will continue to choose this hotel when visiting Dubuque.
We came to town for a four-night getaway, a little sightseeing and a lot of relaxing. This place was perfect for us. Conveniently located on Hwy 20, just minutes from everything we wanted to do. Very clean, very well maintained, ample convenient parking, all the amenities and services we wanted, and a VERY friendly staff. Hot breakfast was excellent, and a special shout-out for the light fluffy pancakes, premade, but apparently by hand! The OC sports bar on the property was great for watching Monday Night Football with pizza and drinks. Would definitely stay here again if returning to the area!
Very nice hotel in Dubuque for families. The rooms are very clean and the pool area was clean and kept up very nice. Refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker in room. Beds comfortable. The hotel staff was a pleasure to work with when checking in and out. They asked me how my stay was each time they saw me in the lobby. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Front desk did not have a plexi-glass screen. Staff varied widely on covid protocol, some wore masks, some shields, others neither. There was no maid service for stay overs, so had to ask for towels and paper products. Hotel was very quiet, we had an atrium room and didn't hear any noise at all from the pool area. Only complaint was that when the people went in & out of the room next to us it jarred our door and made it sound like our door was opening. Room was very spacious. Mattress and pillows were very comfy. There was a vanity area outside the bathroom. Bathroom had excellent lighting, plenty of space for your toiletries, the showerhead was excellent, and there was plenty of hot water. Bathroom door would not stay put and was just in your way. Lobby was spacious and had a place to get snacks. There were automatic doors which made it much easier to manage with your luggage. There is a huge atrium with large indoor pool and hot tub and a large seating area with pool table and ping pong. There is an adjacent game room, fitness center, and laundry. Plenty of activities for a family. There is an on-site Old Chicago Pizza and an Olive Garden just a block away down the frontage road, so you don't have to cross the busy highway. Traffic in Dubuque is some of the worst I've ever encountered. Hot breakfast was OK, consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, & pancakes. Only had course ground salt & pepper available that you had to grind yourself that wasn't suitable for eggs at all and not very sanitary. Restaurant staff wore gloves, but no masks and were not wiping down tables between guests. Would have given a higher review if better covid procedures were being followed.
Overall, the hotel is fine. However, we had extremely loud neighbors that woke us with yelling and loud sex at 3am. Front desk didn't address the issue. Very frustrating. We were kept awake until 5am. I would expect this at a cheap hotel, but not for a $200 a night King Whirlpool suite. The front desk gave us a $50 credit off of our bill, but we will not be back if this is what happens here. My wife was thoroughly disgusted.
Was dropping our son off at University of Dubuque. The proximity to the campus from this hotel could not be better. It is very family oriented and in the evening, the pool area gets a little loud and crazy with kids yelling an playing. So if you need quiet, ask to be away from the pool area. However, the hotel is very clean, the staff was wonderful and the restaurant had great food and great service. We will definitely be returning.
Joyce was so friendly at check in. The lobby was very nice. The pool area is great for families - pool, hot tub, pool table, ping pong table - lots to do. The hotel was clean. It was a great location for shopping in Galena (12 min) and also visiting Dubuque downtown area and for Field of Dreams (30 min). Close to other shops (grocery, fast food ..) i would stay here again.
Pool has scum on the side bath tubs were disgusting, black stuff was coming out of the faucet. My son cut his foot on the pool wall and all they did was wipe up the blood. Did not even clean the pool.
This BW was outstanding!! The connected Old Chicago was outstanding! Lots to do at the hotel, plenty of room in the rooms. I LOVED being able to simply test the front desk with requests and questions.
We have stayed here a number of times when we have gotten together for a family reunion in Dubuque. We have family that comes from both sides of the US and this is our meeting place. I especially enjoy the seating area near the pool. We can all get together and visit without infringing on any one's room. While the kids swim we can all visit and still watch the kids in the pool. The breakfasts are always fantastic, something for everyone.
We had a great time celebrating a family wedding. The hotel was clean, pool was open, game room had everything working, air conditioning was working well, rooms were quiet. Wedding reception went well, good food and drinks.
This is a nice, clean hotel. Beds were comfortable and the room had a mini fridge and microwave. Staff was helpful and friendly. It's located on a main highway, so there's plenty of stores, gas stations, restaurants etc. There is also a chain restaurant attached to the hotel (Old Chicago Pizza). Serves Pizza, sandwiches and has a bar area. Pizza was not great but sandwich I had the second day was tasty. The hotel also has a large, indoor pool area with tables/chairs etc. It would be a good place to take the kids for an overnight swim stay. However, if you're looking for just a quiet place, make sure you ask for a room farther away from pool area. It gets crowded and noisy with all the kids running around. The only other minor thing is the elevator is quite slow. Overall, a nice place that I'd stay at again.
We showed up with no reservation when our plans suddenly changed, but I had previously stqyed in a Best Western Plus and knew what to expect. I was not disappointed. We had a great one-night stay. No complaints.
Once i got there terrible trained front desk staff clueless aboit how to run my bill or charge due to getting an company discount and over charhed me which cause me to have to wait til next day to get it fixed with the manager. A/c ran horrible. The noise of kids running up and down the halls ways all night past midnight. And the floor above us running.
Pros. Swimming Pool Excellent. Breakfast is above average. Cons. Cleaning not done daily for extended stays. Unacceptable. Room was run down. Stain on mattress and under chair cushion. Not worth price paid.
Went for a weekend getaway and slept soundly with the dark curtains. Didn't even realize how late in the morning it really was. Quiet room as well. Wish the breakfast area was fully open like it used to be but just grab and go foods. Overall, very clean and friendly staff from the check in to the housekeeping. Always a good hotel to stay at and we will be back.
Great location! Minutes from area attractions, (Crystal Lake cave,National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, Fenelon Place Elevator Company & Mississippi River/river walk.) Hotel and rooms were very clean. Employees were friendly and helpful with information. Large indoor dome pool area/ tables outside the fenced area for dining. Ping Pong and pool table for recreation in dining area was a nice set up too. Great for families. There is a restaurant on hotel property Old Chicago taproom. Delicious! Took it to go and ate it in pool area. (Prefect for us with three kids) yes I would stay here again.
Average hotel great amenities for kids. excellent location. Pool and gaming area perfect for kid groups. Location at the center of all shops and nearby mall. Room is average but acceptable. Fridge and microwave in every room. Connected to major chain restaurant.
We always come here for birthday Parties and general family gatherings with the kids and family. The game room and seating area next to the pool make it nice for the adults to relax and talk but still keep an eye on the kids
Staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered food from the restaurant and had it delivered to our room. It was very good. Loved swimming in pool and relaxing in the hot tub. I went with my best friend. We had a blast. The next morning she left early to work and I stayed and went back to the pool and hot tub. I stayed until checkout which to me was awesome to be alone in a hotel room.
Conveniently located in Dubuque's West side. Close to shopping and lots of restaurants. Very clean and friendly helpful staff. Delightful in meeting Diana their sales director. Maggie the front desk manager very pleasant and always helpful. Tina, their hotel manager really knows her city and always goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is a home away from home. Clean rooms with great amenities for extended stays. Dorm size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker. The hotel did an outstanding service due to Covid. With take and go breakfast and less contact with going to desk to get extra coffee, towels, ect.
Our school group had a wonderful stay! Diana arranged for our block of rooms at a great price, threw in the Conference Room for free and hooked us up with the suite so our 8th graders would have a place to hang out away from us parents. Hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly to our parents and kids. The hotel is clean and very nice! Pool seating area is quite large and quite welcoming to our families. We will definitely book the Best Western for our next get-together!
The hotel is in a great location, convenient to shopping, and restaurants. The pool area is large and accommodating for large groups. The rooms are updated and very clean. The staff is amazing and Old Chicago has great food and beverages.
Absolutely loved this hotel for a last minute, unplanned getaway. It was a great price point, beautiful, very clean and a great pool. Staff was nice and helpful. Great restaurant attached. If we come head here again, this is a must stop!
This is a great place to relax for all travelers. The evenings were quiet, the pool and hot tub were exceptionally clean, the attached bar and grill provided great food, and it was the place to chill after any busy day.
We stayed here when we visited the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. My girls loved the pool area and we spent most of our time there. I was highly impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel and it was fun to get away my girls are already wanting to come back to use the pool!
I have stayed in this hotel several times. This time the check-in process was very slow, I did not get offered an express checkout and I was awaken at 3 am by someone slamming into my door so hard that I thought they were trying to break-in. Not a great experience this time.
Very clean hotel located by the UD campus, shopping and restaurants. Front desk staff was efficient and welcoming. Our room decor was a little dated but clean and sufficient. Pizza place next door had good food. The pool area had a lot of seating so we were able to sit there while waiting for the rest of our group to arrive.
Great place to stay. Very clean, friendly staff, really nice pool, hot tub, and area for children to play. Good location, has a nice pizza place right next door that also has good food. Will definitely be back to the Best Western in Dubuque.
Wonderful hotel to stay with with family. Our grandkids loved swimming and the atrium was a nice area to relax. Hotel was clean and staff very friendly. Nice to have Old Chicago attached for meal and drinks. We would stay again.
We visited for one night Valentine's Day weekend because we were in the area for another event. The hotel was clean and overall the experience was fine. I was unaware that there is a large pool area that has a strong chlorine smell throughout the hotel. There were a lot of people, and on our floor (4th) we were in-between 2 rooms of university age students that were loud well past 2 am, slamming doors, etc. The hotel was great, but very busy, and just be aware you may have to compete with loud parties using the rooms to party and use the pool.
I was having vehicle trouble and the restaurant and hotel is what I needed and then there was a bar which kinda helped me relax more the room was clean and comfy and the pool and hot tub was open PLUS
Six weeks ago we started having our WW (formerly Weight Watchers) workshops at the Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel and Conference Center. We are extremely pleased with the service we receive. The staff is friendly and helpful. They provide a clean, safe environment for our members. The meeting room is cleaned between our two workshops. The chairs are set up with social distancing a priority. Because we meet on a weekly basis, we were provided with a locked area to keep our equipment. The staff helps us move this equipment in and out of the storage area. I would highly recommend this establishment for business meetings and workshops.
Just love the pool area and poolside rooms. Works out great to hang out with the kids and grandkids. They really tried their best with all the COVID restrictions. It is an older hotel but we go because of the pool area.
Visited several times, first rented a jacuzzi room, then a single, and most recently, double room with pool view. All three styles of room are spacious, comfortable. I was especially impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms, which is always important but especially now. The person at the desk was friendly and efficient and check ins went quickly. Was also helpful that i was able to check in early
We enjoy this place! It's clean and the service is great. We love the pool area and playing ping pong. It's so nice to be able to stay indoors and get to the Old Chicago attached. Great food, nice rooms, friendly staff.
Had to make an emergency, overnight stop due to a snowstorm. Called this hotel from the highway and the desk attendant, Maggie, was incredibly helpful and compassionate. The hotel is beautiful, great breakfast (in spite of COVID restrictions). The only think I found annoying was the mattress pad/wrap. It was kind of noisy. Other than that, the room was very clean and spacious, as was the rest of the hotel.
My husband and I wanted a night to ourselves. We definitely had a great time and can't wait to stay again. The employees where so helpful and nice. I for one will be returning very soon. Thank you best western
Loved ice machines. Need more cold breakfast selections. Yogurt was fabulous!! Selections such as granola bars, and maybe cereal with small milk containers (instead of a gallon where everyone can touch)...fruit
This is not a flashy hotel, but it is clean, safe and the beds are comfortable. I have stayed here many times when on business in the Dubuque area and appreciate the value and location. I have also used the workout facility a few times. It is small, but works well if only 1 - 2 guests are using it at any given time.
I've come to expect a pretty high standard for Best Western properties and this one was even better than expected. As usual, the room is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. Plus, they have a pretty decent grab and go breakfast, great common area with games, hot tub, pool and plenty of tables and chairs. Lots of parking options and an Old Chicago pub attached. We moved in here from a more budget style motel but paid only a few dollars more making this property a super value. My only disappointment was that I didn't opt to stay here first.
I am surprised at all the high 4 and 5 star reviews. The rooms are just okay and have a smell to them. The pool area is nice but very busy on a Saturday night and because of this my family won't be swimming. Also, if you get a room by the pool it is very loud.
Rode the motorcycles up to see the changing colors of the leaves. This hotel was perfect for us, as there were 5 of us, one of us booked the executive king suite. Very nice sitting area, couch, recliner, table and chairs and small kitchenette. We were able to all sit and enjoy the evening together, ordered pizza delivered and were able to social distance during this Covid-19 times. The bed was comfortable, the room quiet, even though we were right outside the pool area. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a little worn, and needs some little updates, very comfortable. The pool looked wonderful. We did not use, the families using it looked like they were having fun. Breakfast was grab and go, and there were many choices of what you would like to take. We recommend this hotel. The others stayed in a jacuzzi suite and a regular king and there were no complaints.
This hotel is a little outdated but the rooms are comfortable and spotless. We liked the new process for getting fresh towels - just put dirty towels outside your door and fresh towels are left in a bag on your door. Breakfast was sparse but I'm sure it was because of Covid-19. I was a little concerned about noise from the pool area but it wasn't a problem at all. We will definitely book a room at this hotel when we return to Dubuque.
Diana and staff were the absolute best to work with! Timely responses especially during this COVID time, always kept us up to date with new protocols and provided some helpful suggestions. Answered all of our questions and more- there were a lot of things that I didn't know to ask while looking for a venue and she made sure we will filled in. The package deals are defiantly worth it! I can't thank Best Western Plus staff and Dianna enough for such a great day. I wish I could relive that day all over again!!
Trip was great clean, fast, no problems but refrigerate wasn't cold. Over all the way stay was great. No problems. Will be going back. Poll area was the best I have seen for indoor lots of tables and games
We stayed two nights in August for a mini vacation to Dubuque. From check in everything was very pleasant. Our room was close to the back door. Had an elevator for when we took our bags in and out. Great pool and hot tub! Very clean comfortable king room with a sofa sleeper the kids. Strong wifi. Had a frig and microwave also so it met all of our needs. We will stay again if ever in the Dubuque area!
This was the venue for our small wedding. We also had several family members staying at the motel for the weekend as well. The rooms were clean and well supplied with proper bedding, toiletries, coffee supplies, etc. The staff was exceptionally helpful when asked about anything. Being a convention and conference center the hotel has a number of different types of meeting rooms that were used by our family group. This hotel was wonderful for our family groups as there are a number of different types of games (e.g. ping pong, pool, arcades), different types/sizes of tables/chairs in the central area, wonderful hot tub, large swimming pool for individuals with differing swimming abilities.
We made an impromptu stop in Dubuque and spent one night here (on a Saturday). Rooms look to be newly remodeled so that was a plus. Staff was friendly and the hotel and room were VERY clean. We heard from a relative that this is a pet friendly hotel (in case this is needed). Our room #105 was right near the pool. We did not spend much time in our room, but could see that it could be loud when busy. It was in the 90s outside and even with our room temperature set at 70, we could not get the room temp to go below 74/75, so that made sleeping a little uncomfortable. The to-go breakfast in a bag needs some upgrades (but we understand Covid restrictions are a challenge). Overall the room price is fair and we had a nice stay here.
Room was clean, staff at desk friendly. I did not realize this was pet friendly, so just fyi. Hallways and room, did have a different smell, not bad, but we had some febreeze that did the trick. Chose this place because the pool was still open, and the pool was great, clean, and the kids loved it! 30 minutes to Field of Dreams which is why we were in town. Breakfast was subpar due to covid. Other hotels have a masked attendant serving hot breakfast to go, but they only had granola bars, muffins, apples, and yogurt out. All things considered not a bad stay, because the kids had fun and got to swim twice each day.
This was our first time to Dubuque and this hotel, including our first time ever to stay at a Best Western. Never again. This place was a noisy a Disney. Kids were running in the halls late into the night. Our room's walls were paper thin and the doors were 2 inches of the floor, allowing more noise and light to come thru. Plus our room had an adjoining door to the next room. The doors must have been hollow, as we heard EVERYTHING the family said next door, well into late night. We complained and the front desk gave us a credit and said to be sure to call when there was any problem. The problem was... it was off and on all the time. Then at midnight the guy next door was pounding on the his door to get into his room. It woke us up and our dogs, which started to bark. We called, but by the time anyone got up there, he was gone. The room was clean and it felt clean and looked clean. The beds were comfortable. I loved the duvet on the beds. Wish I could have bought one. We had a handicap room. There was plenty of room for the wheelchair in the bathroom, but it was tight around the rest of the room. Too much furniture for a handicap room. This hotel had coffeemakers in the rooms and hairdryers. There was a microwave and fridge that worked. If you wanted clean towels and more coffee, you had to get everything at the front desk, as no housekeeping was coming to occupied rooms, due to Mr. Covid. They didn't serve breakfast, just bag and go, which we didn't get. There was a pool and hot tub, but we never got a chance to use them, as it was full of kids. There was a game room, pool table, and table tennis, but that also was busy. There was no place to relax with all the families and kids. When we checked out, the clerk told us there was little league games in the area. That sure explained a lot. If the games had not been going on and no kids and families keeping us up, it may have been an enjoyable stay.
Reserved a handicap accessible room. Having done this at other places, I expect a room close to the front desk. Not here! Our room was actually about as far from the desk as possible. All the way around back at entrance #6. Since I use crutches, this meant that any contact with the desk was easier for me to just drive around to the main entrance. A REAL problem when on my second night, my key card didn't unlock the back door. So my "hot" supper got cold as I had to go around and deal with the desk. When I told them that this was a ways to have to go, they said I could use the elevator. So much for paying attention to guests as I then asked her what I was supposed to do with my vehicle out front then?? Next, the roof over entrance 6 is set up so any water coming off of the highest roof, flows directly across the exit area and onto patrons. I didn't use the breakfast as it was even further past the front desk within the restaurant area. Handicap people don't appreciate having to walk further for ammenities. Now, I double checked the website both before and after my stay and it stated that the pool was closed due to the virus. As a result, I didn't pack my swimsuit. The very first thing I heard upon entering was the echoes of people using the non closed pool. The phone isn't next to the beds, so the prank call I received at 11:39 pm wasn't able to be answered. I definitely will go elsewhere next trip. The housekeeper was accommodating when I only asked for towels one morning and no extra cleaning. Lastly, it states in the room pamphlet that there is a hotel map posted on the door to reference. WRONG! There is only a fire escape map for your floor. Not able to actually reference where the rest of the hotel amenities access points are located. I didn't eat at the restaurant after i saw numerous reviews of long waits for food.
Me and my wife stayed one night... and it was great!! We enjoyed the pool and the jacuzzi the most!! Play a few games as well. Just a overall great experience! Due to COVID -19 we couldn't have the typical breakfast but we were grateful for what they had for us.
Booked this hotel more last minute. It is in a good location on main roadway in area. Needed only for one night and it served its purpose. Would stay here again if in area. Stayed while covid-19 issues going on, so there was no regular breakfast.
This is one of the worst experiences I've ever had with any hotel in Dubuque Iowa !! The it was black mold on shower curtains and a large urine stain in the bed! I would have left that night but I had my one month old infant and they offered another room and told me to do a walk thru myself! Because they would not refund my money
This hotel has been recently updated. Our room was clean and nicely furnished. Check-in was prompt and friendly. This property is good for travelers looking for a clean updated room at a fair price. The breakfast option was water and a muffin due to the virus.
We had a great stay for our couple get away last year. The pool area was so cool we couldn't wait to bring our girls. However, this stay is completely different. With the exception of comfortable beds and nice staff you pass in the hall, there wasn't much more to like. Posts throughout the hotel state they are taking extra cleaning measures. I didn't see anyone cleaning in the pool / atrium area the entire stay. In fact glasses sat there for a few days untouched. First, the room is dirty. We found a pringles top behind the TV. Some type of cap on the floor and all kinds of junk is sitting below the a/c unit. Cabinet doors were almost greasy. Luckily I have stuff to clean with me. I ended up doing almost every surface of the room. The wipes were so dirty when I was done. I don't think hard surfaces have been cleaned in awhile. So, bring your own cleaning supplies. (The tub, bedding and sink basin were clean). Next, no coffee except what's in the room. Which means no milk or creamers, limited sugar. So, if you are a coffee drinker, bring your own coffee pot and coffee as well as anything you put in it. Third, they are not cleaning rooms until people leave. So, no garbage pick up, towel refresh or TP replacement. So, be ready to empty your garbage, and chase the cleaning lady down for TP and towels. Last, breakfast was a joke. They had banana nut muffins (what about people with nut allergies?), apples, oranges and waters. That's it. Everything is sitting out in a bowl so people have to dig through to look for something else. I understand buffet is out but at least offer something like individual cereals with milk. So, again, bring your own. I am really disappointed. We booked double rooms for 2 nights and after the first night I would almost prefer to just check out. But, our girls have been looking forward to this for so long. Best Western PLUS used to mean something. This is the 2nd property that has issues cleaning. When BW Plus is on, its really on. But when its not, its really not. There's no in between.
An excellent property. This is our second visit and will continue anytime we are in Dubuque. Missed not having a pool but understand. Easy access from any direction going east or west. Great place to stay if you care visiting Galena, iIL.
Fantastic rooms...clean, updated, spacious. Recreational area around pool is a great and fun space, just not always super clean. The location is very convenient with many restaurants and shopping options nearby. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
We stayed 2 nights at this hotel, and I was a bit worried due to it being my first adventure out since covid. The room was super clean! I was very impressed! The front desk clerk, she even called after we got up to our room to ask us if everything looked ok with our room. Very nice touch! Bed was comfortable. I brought my own pillows, so I can't speak of the pillows here. They were not offering the regular breakfast, which is understandable, but I wished they at least had hot coffee. They did give a little bag with some snacks and water. The biggest issue I had was a very loud child in the adjoining room next door. Woke us up very early both mornings. We did mention this to the front desk and they recommended asking for a non adjoining room in the future. Overall I was very impressed with the room and the cleanliness. I would gladly stay here again!
We stayed at this property because Illinois was under tighter Covid restrictions. The hotel was very nice. Rooms were comfortable with considerable space for the three of us. The shower had great pressure - which is always an added bonus. The front desk staff and especially the cleaning crew were friendly and very helpful. Because of the Covid situation, they did not have their breakfast being served, and we did not take advantage of the Grab n go.
Clean room, comfortable bed and the shower was amazing! Traveled here alone from out of state and felt very safe here. Unfortunately due to covid the pool was not open, but other than that i enjoyed my 2 day stay here.
The room and hotel inside and out were very clean..The only thing I can complain about is the temperature in the room. It remained at 75 degrees even after turning the air on. This made sleeping difficult.
We chose this hotel because it is halfway between our home and my daughter's home. We've always thought Dubuque looked to be a picturesque city as we drove through. The hotel and the city did not disappoint. The pool & hot tub area complete with pool table and ping pong were great on rainy days. There is also a game room & exercise room but we didn't use either. There is an indoor hallway leading to Old Chicago where they hold the breakfast. Breakfast was always good and the staff cleaned & stocked the area frequently. We requested a room away from the pool area so it was quiet. The only complaints are that the heating/cooling system in the room was not very efficient, the fitted sheet on the bed kept coming undone, and the pool surface area hurt our feet (we were told it will updated this Fall). We will consider returning here!
I always try to stay here when working or playing in the Dubuque area. It is easily accessible being right on Hwy 20. Restaurants, shopping and groceries are all close. Rooms are always very clean, as is the rest of the hotel. Beds are extremely comfy! Great pool and hot tub! I would have given 5 stars if the pool area had an hr or two for adults only-or maybe open until midnight for us 'older' kids.
The room was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast is amazing-scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, cereal. I also like that there is a restaurant/bar attached so you don't have to go anywhere after a long day of meetings.
The room we were in very the second best room I have ever rented in the entire United States. However, we paid the price for this wonderful room by the high level of noise coming from the pool and gathering area. If you have kids and can tolerate the noise and crowd for poolside rooms, this is the place for you as there is a lot for the kids to do. The bed was comfortable, the breakfast ok, and the staff at the front desk were very polite and accommodating.
The check in was very fast in and out even with a small group cocktail hour in the lobby area and a packed recreational area. I had a King jacuzzi suite for a Saturday night the price was a little high but the room was very clean and well maintained. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It does the job and there is plenty to do.
I specifically approached staff about multiple people having glass beer bottles in the pool area, they ignored me. I have no issue with food and beverage in the pool area but when people are walking around, sitting in the hot tub, with "glass" bottles, I have a problem. Don't stay here! Walls are also paper thin.
We really enjoyed our stay. The standard room with king size bed was excellent. It was clean, comfortable & well-appointed. The pool area looked inviting, even though we didn't use it. Breakfast was much better than expected with nice choices, REAL scrambled eggs & excellent coffee. Parking was very good. & hotel is conveniently located in Dubuque. We will definitely stay here again when in the area.
Front desk staff was friendly, quick, helpful and professional. Got us checked in very fast. Extra keys also quick. Nice, large pool area. Comfortable bed and room. We were in the back and on the 2nd floor and had a lot of stuff to unload so the front desk told us to park around back and which door to enter. Our room ended up being 40ft, no stairs, from the parking lot--excellent. Breakfast was also above average and well-staffed. When we needed more towels we got them delivered in less than 5min. All around great property, highly recommended.
Gorgeous rooms, nestled in beautiful Dubuque, IA. I've stayed here almost 10 times in the past year. The rooms are always clean and well maintained. The price could always be better...I think $100/night is excessive, but maybe that's just me. If you are looking for more than your average overnight amenities, this is it.
Front desk slow and not knowledgeable. Did not get the type of room requested at reservation. Old Chicago is 0 out of 10, terrible service and mediocre food, order lost after a 45 minute wait. Despite not getting the room we reserved in advance, the room was beautiful and very clean
Front desk staff was extremely accommodating, friendly and professional. Pool area was clean without the heavy chlorine smell. Liked the other things to do at the pool like the ping pong tables, pool table and air hockey table. Rooms were quiet (we weren't near the pool) We were with a very large group including kids, and the staff was was great with everyone. Great comp buffet breakfast included in the attached restaurnat. The only negative was the service at the restaurant. If you're in a hurry, I would suggest going elsewhere. One of our meals took an hour to be delivered and the other 3 times we ate there, were also super slow. Drinks and tabs were also slow to be delivered.
This is a great Best Western property Very accommodating for any needs or concerns . A reasonable rate, We will continue to stay at this hotel in the future. It has been our go to hotel when traveling to Illinois
Decent enough few issues with restaurant getting into and out of the parking lot can be a bit dangerous depending on traffic. Rooms and pool area were good however close to the hiway. Beds weren't the best quality.
I absolutely love this Best Western . Out of all the states I've stayed in chain motels ,it by far exceeds other Best Westerns and most other chain motels period . Their breakfast they serve is amazing so much to choose from and home-cooked taste. Everything is very clean ,nicely decorated and staff always goes above and beyond. The beds are comfortable and I always get a peaceful good nights sleep here.
It was A get away for Thanksgiving stayed for ten days [ been staying here for thirteen for special A cations ] The people are always glad to see us , The complementary breakfast is one of the best we have ever had ,the Thanksgiving buffet was great ,it is conveniently located to shopping and off site restaurant
There are better options in the area for your money. We stayed here on business. The front desk staff just was very unorganized. Check-in was a process for them and they were lackluster at best. I wasn't expecting a hug or anything but a smile and a welcome would've gone a long way. The facility could be a lot better with more streamlined check-in, a cleaner facility and some updating. With that being said, if you're traveling for business in Dubuque there are better options than this hotel. Don't get me wrong; it wasn't awful and have stayed in worse places but there wasn't anything great about this place other than the bartender at the attached Old Chicago lounge and restaurant. He was very nice and friendly.
Best Western Dubuque has proved the ideal base of operations for researching retirement jobs and housing in advance. And how better to cap off a successful day of hunting than to relax in the pool'hot tub. With a reliable restaurant at hand?
This was a nice place to stay with friendly service. The breakfast was good and there was many items to select. This was our first time in Iowa, and everyone was very nice and helpful. We had no problems or issues here.
Check-in was speedy, room was nice and large. Multiple outdoor entrances needing keys, plus you can park nearby with a view from some rooms to keep an eye on your car if you're paranoid like me. Old Chicago is attached where the hotel breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable. The restaurant/bar part at night was ok, lots of TVs, a bit slower service, but I was most likely hangry/tired from driving all day. Tasty food and drinks. All around good service, barely saw any other guests which was great. The duck claw machine in the game room makes some entertaining noises, especially if you've partaken in some drinks at said bar. The bed was soft and wonderful to fall asleep on during a Harry Potter marathon on the larger room tv.
Stayed two nights in October. The hotel has a nice pool and hot tub. The hotel is up to date and well kept. Breakfast was your usual hotel breakfast. There was a weird humming noise by our room when we checked in. The staff was more than attentive to the issue, seraching for the cause and asking staff to come back into work to turn the malfunctioning fan off. The hotel is right off the highway and we would definitly recomend this property.
We always enjoy this hotel. It's a clean and comfortable place to stay. We just visited for the 6th time and there are reasons we like it: they appreciate our dogs, the rooms are clean, the rooms are spacious, if I have an issue - staff strives to fix it immediately and the grass area is terrific for the dogs!! The only thing I do not like is the fact that they charge a dog fee (I have a really good track record for leaving a super clean room) and the only way we get that waived is if we are in town for a dog show. I just suggest that if we have a good track record that the fee is automatically waived. Nonetheless, good job BW Dubuque. See you again in April.
Good location to visit the Dubuque area. The room was very large with two TV's in separate parts of room. The shower was fine after a two minute warm-up and the bed was great. The breakfast was in Old Chicago, which is attached to the motel. Scrambled eggs, sausage links and patties, pancakes and potatoes.
We wanted a place for an overnight getaway in Dubuque and are happy we choose Best Western Plus. The staff smiled as soon as we walked in ready to help us get checked in which was very quick and got us on the way to our room fast. Room was very clean and spacious also quiet. The hot breakfast buffet was very nice and yes Hot the morning staff kept the tables clean and made sure we were doing ok. Yes we will stay here again!
Was visiting my daughter for parent weekend, hotel was so convenient to her school. Staff was so very kind. Breakfast on Sunday morning-delicious,would have been better if they offered fresh fruit. But overall great place to stay.
Stayed at the Dubuque Hotel on rt.20 this weekend. The room was sapcious and clean. Great place for famalies. Breakfast is plentiful and of good quality. The pool area is large. A game and exercise rooms are available. The staff was cordial and helpful. What I didn't like was the general design of the hotel with many of the rooms surrounding the pool. The noise echoed to our room and the pool was opened until 11. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and stay here again.
Stayed on a Friday night while in the area. Primarily picked this hotel because of the pool area. Pool and hot tub were very nice. Pool water is heated so it made for pleasant swimming. On the down side, the air temp by the pool was a bit cool, may have had something to do with the weather changing from mid-60s to 30s in like 4 hours. They also have free use ping pong tables near the pool which were lots of fun. Room was clean and quiet. Everything was in good condition. Hotel staff were all very friendly. There is also a restaurant attached to the hotel which made supper super easy. They also serve the complimentary breakfast in this attached restaurant. The breakfast was one of the better ones I have had in a chain hotel, lots of variety and plenty of seating. Hotel is close to or a short drive to everything tourist and shopping related in Dubuque. I'd stay here again if I find myself in this area.
Best western Hotel is my favorite 1. Super clean room and bed 2. Super delicious breakfast 3. Super services and wonderful staff I will never book with any hotel if (no breakfast ) or cold continental!! , sorry , I only go with the hotel that make me feel I am at my home I encourage every hotel, motel to serve the hot breakfast so the customers like me, will book with you. Also put photo of the breakfast, best western in Dubuque Iowa and the limelight hotel in Aspen Colorado are the top in everything.
Pool area was reason we chose this hotel. Very nice pool, hot tub. Pool area has tables and tvs. Great for parties. Game room was okay. Rooms are clean. Comes with free breakfast buffet. Hotel was easy to find.
The hotel was convenient and within a couple of miles of everything we wanted to see. Our room was clean and quiet. The staff was friendly. The breakfast is included and was hot and delicious a probably the best we've had for hotel breakfast. Our only complaint was our non-smoking room smelled like my grandma's car (cigarette smoke and perfume). It wasn't horribly strong - the longer we were in the room the less we noticed it. Would come back.
Guest service with registration was pleasant - good price and clean rooms. Our room smelled heavily of smoke despite being a non-smoking room- even with the air on trying to get things moving, the smell stayed. The beds were soft for our taste and REALLY squishy pillows - so if you like that, great - if not, bring one from home! The pool area was clean enough, worn down a bit and the roof leaked during the rain. There is ping pong (free!), pool and air hockey for a dollar each! Loved that! Probably not our go-to next time we are in town.
There are rooms that surround the pool area and if you get one of these be prepared for late night, and early morning wake up from kids playing in pool area. We stayed Sat and Sun so the weekends with the kids swimming and playing would be more noisy than during the week.
Clean hotel and rooms. Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Great complimentary breakfast with wide assortment of food in the restaurant. Looked like a great pool even though we didn't use it. Convenient location and easy to find. Overall a good value for the cost and will stay there again when in Dubuque and would recommend to others.
I chose this hotel to stay at with my dog for a short 2 night trip to Dubuque. It looks like a newer hotel and the room was very clean considering it was in the pet friendly section. The bathroom was very nice too. The included breakfast was also pretty good, although the biscuits and gravy were not my favorite. The next day they had French toast though. I did not hear too much barking, only now and then, and never at night. They have a large grassy area around the hotel for the dogs to do their business. Also, this hotel has one of the nicest pool areas I have ever seen! Sadly, did not have time to use it during my stay. I would definitely stay here again.
We had a very nice stay. Pool area was a nice large area. Only complaint was the rocks on the floor in the pool area are coming off so it was very painful to walk on with rocks sticking into your feet. Hopefully they plan to get that fixed soon. Breakfast was nice and it was convenient to have it at the attached Old Chicago. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.
This was my first stay here but I would look forward to staying here again. The bed was so comfortable! The perfect balance of firm with a soft pillow top. I find most hotel beds to be too firm for me but this one was just right. It was immaculately clean with great amenities. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was fresh, plentiful and delicious. An all around pleasant stay!
We would definitely stay here again. Our room was large, well laid out, and clean. Everything in it worked just fine. This was the most important part of our stay. The breakfast looked great, but the food was not very good nor were the hot foods hot. The man who checked us in was definitely not friendly, but the woman who checked us out was excellent. The place is quite sprawling so it may not be good for people with limited mobility, and the elevator was very small. Hard to put the cart in the elevator.
We stayed in a 2 queen extended stay room, which has a full-size fridge, stovetop, sink and is extra deep allowing for two chairs to be placed between the beds and the dresser, which has the TV on it. The scrambled eggs at the continental breakfast were much better than at other places I have been. The pool area is great in an atrium-like setting. They have a shallow area, but also a deep end that is 9 feet deep. The parking lot is ample.
Well taken care of property, friendly service, clean and lovely all around........pride of ownership shows in every aspect here. Stayed here years ago and even though it's not the same people as then, it has maintained its' integrity.
We had a great night here. We arrived late and checked in around 8:30 without reservations.....no problems at all. Cory at the front desk was very pleasant to work with. The room was large and comfortable. It had everything that you could ask for and was mostly clean. Shower curtain did have some staining on one corner from a greasy hand, but otherwise all was good.
This hotel was one of the best I have stayed in this year I stayed in Seattle, and Ketchikan Alaska this year the Seattle hotels were the worst ever. the Alaska one was about a 6 on 1-10 scale but the best western one in Dubuque Iowa was a top 10 hotel would recommend best western on any trips I know I will book Best western when I travel.
Utilized gift cards earned earlier this summer. The location is good with easy access to the downtown area and attractions. Restaurant part of the complex plus close by. Rooms are large and comfortable. The desk staff were pleasant and willing to answer questions. This was a good experience and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
The Museum package is an excellent value. The children really enjoyed the gift basket. After the museum it was great to come back and go swimming. Relaxing in the hot tub was wonderful. The gift card to Old Chicago made supper an easy choice. The breakfast was filling and had many choices. Overall, the Best Western Plus is the best choice for us?
When we got to best western we were very early. They had no issues letting us check in as our room had a no show the night before. The pool area is plenty big. We had a large family reunion and had no issues on Sat with having enough seating for everyone. Around the pool the ground is a little rough but the pool itself and hot tubs are nice to swim around in. The room was double queen and the beds were very nice. We were on the 4th floor so it wasnt noisy like it might be poolside. We were able to use express check out so went back to enjoy the pool until noon. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning. I have stayed here before and will stay here again. Pool could use a cleaning as names were rubbed into the sides of it. Like I said though, we enjoyed our stay and will stay again. Front desk people were friendly and accomadating.
Nice staff, great pool, great food!!!We ate breakfast in the restaurant it was excellent we also ate at the restaurant for supper a couple of nights very good food again. Loved swimming in the pool and relaxing in the hot tub by the pool. All in all a great place to stay we will be back!
My husband and I planned an anniversary get away and a day hiking at Maquoketa Caves State Park so I looked for a hotel not to far away but with a lot of dinner options. Since I had points, this Best Western was our choice. I'm so glad we did. Our room was clean and roomy. Very comfortable. We had one minor issue upon check in and it was handled immediately. Breakfast is provided by the restaurant. Note: I guess the restaurant is not affiliated with the hotel. The food was good with eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuits/gravy, pancakes as well as traditional oatmeal, cereal, yogurt and breads. The hot food wasn't very hot but they had a microwave. The girl clearing tables was very sweet and friendly. The restaurant also has a bar. Very nice atmosphere. We enjoyed a drink in the evening before going to our room. The pool area looked so good it made us plan to come back for a family trip. Clean, great service, wonderful amenities. I would highly recommend this hotel and we can't wait to go back!
I dont usually give 5 stars but this hotel deserves it. Easy check in and Mike was very informative and helpful. Had lovely large room, clean and had everything we needed. Had a swim , pool area was lovely, clean and well appointed. Real fantastic bonus was the FREE shuttle into town and on REQUEST !!! The driver was a true gem too giving us some great history and information about the area and town. Breakfast was in the Old Chicago restaurant on the premises and was excellent and with real cutlery and crockery -no plastic here ! . Thanks BW for a great stay.
Nice hotel, great breakfast which is served at the adjoining restaurant Old Chicago. Lots of options at breakfast and very good staff at restaurant.Breakfast and location of hotel are A +.Centrally located and not very far from Galena.Hotel receptionists could be more courteous. We found all of the female front desk staff very rude and abrupt.Rooms are a good size.
I know when we stay here it's always going to be a relaxing fun time. It's so clean ,modern and well kept .From rooms that are pristine to comfy beds ,with a choice of hard ,medium and soft pillows on them. Pool well kept ,water is always warm .Their breakfast is amazing ,I just can't say enough about this hotel it never disappoints me.
Needed a handicap accessible room with 2 beds. Unfortunately there wasn't a handicap accessible room available. The elevator is not located in the lobby but the walk to get there wasn't too bad. Our room was clean and nicely furnished. This hotel has the best breakfast! French toast, sausage, real eggs and many different beverages. The young lady working in the breakfast area was very kind. One drawback was that the hot tub was being monopolized by families with young kids. It would have been nice to be able to use it. Another drawback is that the noise from the pool carries up the atrium. The desk clerk was very helpful and even enrolled us in the rewards program.
Recently held our family reunion here and were thrilled with our weekend stay! Diana was extremely helpful in arranging a block for our rooms, dinner in onsite banquet room, and suggestions for area attractions. Rooms and hotel were clean, staff was wonderful in providing service and answering all questions and buffet dinner had great menu choices and was delicious. Wanted a place where everything we needed was onsite and got that and more. Definitely will be bringing our reunion back there in the future!
Nice older hotel. Bed was comfortable. Rooms were nicely renovated. But what stood out was the breakfast in the morning. It was real food cooked well, not typical hotel eggs and sausage patties. Service was good, location was great as well. I'd gladly stay again.
WARNING: EXTREME PAIN AND TORTURE - - - The pool deck surface was crumbling with many small loose stones that would stick to the bottom of our bare feet, causing EXTREME PAIN while walking to the pool and hot tub. It was like TORTURE to walk from your chair to the pool or hot tub. When we brought this concern to the attention of the hotel staff, we were told that this problem has existed for nearly a year, but has not been fixed. The hotel staff told us that the hotel owner's money and attention is instead going toward purchasing additional hotel properties, rather than fixing this crumbling pool deck surface.
First, the good: there is a really great pool and hot tub, and our kids had a blast playing in them. There is also a good selection of games (arcade and table games), although a few seemed to be missing components or out of order-we weren't expecting these, so it didn't impact our stay in any way. There is an Old Chicago attached to the hotel, which was convenient for dinner one of the nights we stayed. Second, the not so great: Our reservation indicated our room would sleep 5, but only had 2 beds and 2 chairs. When I asked for a room with a couch, we were advised there were none, but they could send up a roll-away. No charges were mentioned. We received our bill under our door, and I noted that there was a daily charge for the roll-away. When I inquired about this at the front desk when checking out, the receptionist was quite rude, and insisted that there is always a charge for the roll-away. When I asked how our room was supposed to sleep 5 with only 4 sleeping spaces, she told me that how we arrange people is up to us. When I explained that we weren't advised of the charge for the roll-away before one was brought up, she decided at that point to remove the charge, and was significantly nicer. Although we ultimately weren't charged, my frustration is that we were led to believe the room could sleep 5, but truly it cannot; I think this could be improved on the BW website, as this is where I booked our room. Finally, our room smelled quite strongly of smoke.
Was in town for the Alice Cooper concert. Always stay at Best Westerns and was not disappointed. Good location and nice hotel, enjoyed pool and hot tub, good breakfast, asked for a quiet room and got one. Would stay here again.
Best hotel stay ever! Employees are extremely polite and knowledgeable. Pool area was great! Breakfast was very good and a lot to choose from. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this area.
Stayed at the Best Western for a second time and the room was perfect. On the fourth floor it was big, spotlessly clean with a very comfy bed. Check-in was easy and quick. The swimming pool area was busy with families, as it was a weekend, but looks very good. We didn't have time to use the pool or gym sadly. The breakfast isn't brilliant but not awful either and is taken in the adjoining Chicago restaurant. All in all a pleasant two night stay.
Great room, bfast and location to Galena. Spent alot on this room and the 2 person jacuzzi was so noisy, it sounded like the motor might be going out so we just soaked in tub, would have been nice to use, otherwise very nice hotel.
This is a nice place excellent pool area and restoration area very close to other locations in town this is the first time I've stayed here I will stay again the Chicago restaurants next-door is pricey decent foods But they do have an excellent spread for breakfast
We love the Best Western Plus in Dubuque for many reasons. It is clean, comes with a complimentary hot breakfast and there is ample space for the kids to play in and around the pool area. Having Old Chicago Pizza attached is a bonus as well.
Stayed for three nights. Excellent room. First morning breakfast was bad. No eggs and meats at all. Said they were waiting for the truck to get there. Ever heard of Walmart to get ppl eggs? Also no gravy and biscuits. WTF? So you got pancakes , cereal and fried potatoes. The next breakfast was great.
Some group(s) of sports group with kids made a LOT of noise for a long time after they should have been out of the pool area (in front of our room) and a complaint to the front desk did not help. Breakfast was OK, although the only meat choice was mediocre corned beef hash and cereal was only 2 choices in small boxes. Staff was very friendly though.
This hotel is very comfortable and affordable. Convenient location and helpful staff. Breakfast was well-managed, and easy seating. We extended our stay and the staff accommodated us. Laundry facility is clean-- but only one machine was available.
We had a very pleasant two night stay here. Pool and hot tub were great. Wonderful time relaxing by the pool. Even played ping pong. Staff were very welcoming. Jodi was very nice at check in. Tim in maintenance was a pleasure to visit with. He takes pride in the presentation of the hotel. Breakfast was fantastic. Wide variety and very fresh!
A very pleasant stay. The hotel was comfortable, quiet and with all the necessary amenities. Meals in the attached Old Chicago were very good. The hot breakfast was complimentary and had a good variety. We enjoyed several of their salads for lunches and would return again.
Our family has stayed at this Best Western for the past four years visiting while our daughter completed her college education. BW has the best amenities like a connected restaurant/bar, indoor pool, pool tables, ping-pong tables, and shuttle rides to the airport. The staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. Plus the room rate is the best for the money.
My family and I just stayed at this Best Western this past weekend for a baseball tournament. Diana Schultz was extremely helpful getting us set up with a block of rooms for our team. Upon arrival, the staff were extremely kind and welcoming. The night auditor, Mike, was very nice and Julie who worked in the restaurant during the morning breakfast was very helpful, upbeat, and nice. Kudos to your staff especially these three for making our trip great. We will definitely stay here again when we return.
Don't let the exterior fool you. It may look average (or some may even believe below average), but the rooms, service, and amenities are very good to excellent. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Service was top-notch. I've never had housekeeping ask if we needed anything on the morning of check-out. Usually they just waiting for you to leave. The pool area was very nice and was an excellent meeting place for large groups of family or friends. The game tables were a bonus. The buffet breakfast was one of best I've ever had at a hotel, including much higher-end locations. I appreciated that the eggs were "real" and the sausage did not have a questionable texture. I would highly recommend this hotel.
We went to visit our daughter at Loras College for a quick in and out visit and were very happy with our experience. We will be returning next school year and plan to take advantage of the amenities that we were unable to this time.
I can't say enough about how helpful and kind the staff is here. This was the second year I attended a conference here. I had something I needed attended to in my room and they promptly took care of it. They were friendly when you saw them in the hall too. I look forward to coming here again next year.
Our accomodations and space were wonderful. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Shuttle service is great and so helpful since several of us come in from a further distance and don't have cars. Pool area is kept very clean. Appreciated the assistance of the front desk staff when I needed an item to use in my presentation.
I've stayed at many hotels over the past and have never found the staff as helpful, cheerful and just great. I actually asked the staff at the front desk if a manager was available to say just that. There wasn't one just then but two hard-working young ladies were standing there. I even asked if the staff had gone through some extra training is smiling after they were hired. It made for a wonderful experience and I'll be back next year for our next conference. Hats off to all of them.
It was a very nice hotel and staff and I had no issues Gdeuoiyte ed chj hff deryikjbvcdwryjjvcswryhjvcdsdfhjjuyrew ez xvbnjiutewsxxvnkojytdsdxcxddeeh high jjbcx inc. Ddfggjkmnnhggtrrdddddgjngfddrtghjb
Great place to get together with the family. Something for everyone from toddlers to us old grandparents. Wonderful spacious dining room and meals. Loved the pool area too. Only complaint was there were no screens on the windows and it was beautiful weather.
We stayed with a family group of 24 for the weekend with 8 rooms and a number of young kids. Check went smooth for all of us, the rooms were all clean and comfortable. The pool area worked get for the kids and is set up for adults to easily supervise. Enjoyed Old Chicago for food and beverage. We are planning a similar trip next year, although I suggest that you book well in advance.
Basic hotel but in good spot, great restaurant and bar attached and spacious room. Glad we picked this hotel out of the choices in Dubuque, was easy to find out of town but we found this better. Coffee machine in room was a bonus.
Well the purpose of our night was to take our kids to a pool. We like to take a night on the weekend, pick a destination and just get away. We live in the same city as this hotel and thought it would be great being so close to home. Because the ONLY reason to go was the pool for us it was a total disappointment. No there was nothing wrong with the room, in fact we enjoyed that. The pool was a BIG disappointment. The first and most noticeable negative was all of the little rocks on the pool deck. The deck was made of pea gravel and whatever they used to seal it and keep them in place is deteriorating. Because of this everywhere you walk around the pool was like walking on gravel. YES, we could have and probably should have had flip flops or something on our feet, we didn't and it hurt all 4 of us. The temperature of the water was chilly at best. Normally I would say that it is because I like a pool that you can get in and not have my teeth chatter and maybe I am being a wimp. However my wife and every other adults that were brave enough to get in was seen with arm in from of them shivering and trying to be there for the kids. It was obvious the kids did not care as much but you could also tell how cold they were. SO the hotel was great. The room was great! The atrium and pool area (pool tables, ping pong and such) AWESOME! The pool...no way. As much as I hate to form an opinion on 1 stay I can tell you I will not ever take my family here again. For me I am not going to waste my money on a hotel where it (for me and family) is torture to try and get in the pool. This is why we go to hotels, this is what I USE to choose hotels and based on that criteria is why. Others may not care and other may disagree. I am not trying to rip the hotel only giving my opinion of why I will not go back.
Great hotel! Our girl's group makes a habit of planning a yearly or biyearly gambling weekend and always stay here. The rooms are always so clean and the beds are comfy. The atrium is beautiful, and contains a large pool and hot tub. It is a favorite for families and people wanting to gamble at one of the two casinos in the area, the Diamond Jo and Q. This year, the room we booked was a poolside room on the first floor, and we got it at a great rate. The bathroom was large and sparkling clean, and the room was spick and span. They also provide shuttles to the two casinos in town, which is really handy, as we tend to imbibe, and don't want to have to drive ourselves back. The hot tub and pool area we had used earlier when it was quiet, on Fridays and Saturdays, they tend to fill up quick and stay busy till about 9 or 10 at night. The only thing that bothered me at all was the fact that the old Champps restaurant that was affiliated with the hotel had changed to the Old Chicago chain, which has never been one of my favorites. I wish that Champps was still there, they were awesome. The free breakfast provided by the hotel was wonderful and all you can eat. It is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. We had a wonderful time, and we definitely plan to come back, maybe this year again. I highly recommend this hotel if you are thinking of coming to Dubuque, or are looking for a hotel to book a family getaway. You couldn't do any better than the Best Western!
Great hotel & amenities. However, the neighbors on 2nd floor were very loud. We had to call the front desk at midnight for help. Super loud, kids couldn't sleep, and after a knock from security next door, things settled down for maybe 15 minutes. Couldn't wait to try to sleep and head home in the morning.
Our kids loved this hotel! The water in the pool was very, very cold. We were only able to swim for short periods at a time because the kids were freezing. The roof also was dripping water constantly. So anywhere you were at in the pool/leisure area, you were constantly getting dripped on. But, we love this hotel!
Enjoyed our stay, Pool area is bustling and very nice. Many tables, ping-pong, very clean. Chlorine smell at this hotel is problematic. Our room on the 4th floor - no smell on 4th floor but my eyes were burning after departure. The beds are very firm but clean and nice. HVAC is very comfortable and not noisy. Towels and toiletries are very good. This is a great family friendly, bustling hotel. American style Breakfast is very fresh and good.
Wonderful hotel. The staff are great. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. Especially the bathrooms; the first thing I check out in a hotel! The pool/recreation area is magnificent. Clean and beautifully maitained.
This was our 2nd pick after horrible service at grand harbor. Should have picked here 1st. So much nicer. Better staff better all around. Took kids hours to swim didn't get water park we were after but this place suited them perfect pool hot tub safe quiet. Awesome staff
My experience here was better than my last few stays at hotels that cost triple the rate. My room was clean and spacious, the HVAC worked well and was quiet. The breakfast was great, and so was the staff. I have no complaints.
Are you spend the night in the city of Dubuque roughly 10 to 15 times a month. I have tried several hotels and motels and have found the best Western to be the best place to stay. Clean rooms, great staff, good food and nice pool
We really had a great time.We swam in the pool, played ping pong, and spent alot of time in the hot tub .The temperature of the pool and hot tub were perfect for alternating between the two.We ate at Old Chicago and drank a couple of beers after arriving. They even allow small pets.It was really a fun time for all.We finished the night watching an HBO movie in our room. The complimentary breakfast was hot and delicious. It was a very nice place to stay on a cold Iowa night. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows.I can't say enough nice things. We will stay there again.
Our family has once again enjoyed our weekend stay at this beautiful hotel. We are a large family of about 60 that have been utilizing this hotel for our family reunion every year for the last decade. There is no other hotel in the area with the open pool/ large game/ socializing area, with exceptional rooms options poolside, party roons near by for our large group and a fantastic restaurant on site which serves hot free breakfast. The staff here go above and beyond to make our stay great, that includes front staff, group sales and the maintenance crew. We are very thankful for the great memories we've been able to make here!! Can't wait till next year!!
It is a nice hotel. I took my grandkids on New Year's Eve. I was babysitting so that their parents can go out. I thought they would enjoy some pool time. I was unaware when I booked that their was a pool party scheduled. At first I thought it might be fun for the boys. However, it ended up being very crowed. Kids were running the halls and having ice fights with ice all over the halls. There were 25 kids in the hot tub at one time. It was not fun. My disappointment was in the New Year's Eve event. We stayed the night before and had no problems.
We stayed here on New Year's Eve for a Private Party. We were surprised that they had a huge pool and hundreds of kids. The check in didn't take long. The main con for this place is it has only one elevator and it is slow as .......! Since we were staying on the 3rd floor, we chose to utilize the stairs. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable.
Got a giftcard for best western and used it to get a room here. They took the giftcard and told me they still needed a credit/debit to hold as an authorization. They ended up using the gift card and still charged my credit card. They cant determine a way to fix the problem and have 7 days to contact me. There is no manager available until Thursday and this is Christmas eve. Seriously bummed. Never want to stay there again.
Pros: Nice pool area, nice workspace in the room, quiet (despite a pool-side room), nice shower, above-average breakfast. Cons: VERY short workspace chair (wouldn't elevate at all), the room was clean but a bit outdated, VERY slow wi-fi, flaky TV reception. Overall, for me, it was fairly decent - despite the drawbacks.
Stayed here as part of a group attending a wedding. I have stayed in many hotels this past year (about 101 nights) and this was one of the more pleasant experiences. The hotel lived up to its reviews and ratings. Everything was clean and looked nice. The hotel itself is not a new property, but it is definitely well cared for. Room was comfortable and quiet. Had to change rooms because an inconsiderate guest had smoked in the first one I was assigned. Second room met all needs nicely. Nice size room, comfortable bed, heat worked nicely without cooking us. Breakfast was pretty good with a nice selection of hot items (eggs, sausage, pancakes, etc.). Plenty of seating and a good attentive staff keeping everything filled and ready. This hotel is nice, try staying here I guarantee you'll like it.
This is the only place in Dubuque to stay. The hotel is clean, modern, and staffed with the friendliest people you will ever meet. The breakfast is awesome! We have stayed 13 days this year and have nothing but good things to say about the facility, restaurant and especially the staff. Highly recommend!
Visiting our son for Thanksgiving will stay here again very very nice hotel. Also dog friendly so our daughter and boyfriend could stay here also with their greyhound. Love the courtyard in the pool area where you can gather and have snacks and drinks.
Once you arrive at BW Plus Dubuque, you need not get back in your car to find a restaurant and/or bar. It is connected to an Old Chicago restaurant/pub. Good food and great selection of tap beers. This is my go to stop as I travel route 52.
My Husband and i stayed here in October. The hotel is very clean. The pool was very nice. Its attached to a very nice restaurant. And in the morning you get free breakfast which we thought would be your simple cold cereal . But we very surprised it was good. It close to Diamond Jo casino if your looking for something to do. And not to far to Galena
Wonderful place to meet with other family members to celebrate a milestone birthday for my brother who lives in Dubuque. Had a wonderful time. Used the amazing large pool and surrounding tables for get togethers with family. Kids loved swimming and the game room.Continental Breakfast was wonderful. Had many options to choose from. I will definitely come back again....Thank You BEST WESTERN!
This place is great. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The shower works great. The breakfast is amazing!! Having Old Chicago in the same building as the hotel was so nice. I have and will continue to stay in this hotel whenever I am in the area for business or pleasure.
We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The pool/atrium area was great. It was nice to have a place to sit and visit without sitting on someone's bed. Ping pong is free, pool is $1 per game, the swimming pool is 3-9 feet deep. There were outlets along the wall so our kids could charge their phones while playing ping pong. Our room was clean and very big with 2 beds, a chair and side table along with a desk chair. There was a refrigerator and microwave tucked in the cabinet and also a counter outside the bathroom for the coffee pot. The only thing we noticed was that there seemed to be a log of noise due to the adjoining room door, but it didn't interfere with anything. Breakfast was buffet style in the adjacent restaurant. There was a lot of variety. We also stopped at the restaurant for dinner one night. It was nice to be able to get food without going out. This will be one of the first places we will look to when we return to the area because it is a great value.
Loved the pool area with the ping pong tables. The floor around the pool/hot tub area does hurt your feet though. The breakfast was amazing and we placed a to-go order from Old Chicago which was delicious as well. We will stay here again for sure.
I have previously stayed at the Best Western Plus in Dubuque and have enjoyed my stay there. It is conveniently close to places I like to go to and it is nice it has a restaurant on site so when you are tired from shopping or you arrived there for your first night, it is nice to have one so you don't have to drive any where. They do have a nice fitness center, which I have not used but it looked like something I would want to use.
This was our first time staying here but it won't be our last time. I was impressed with the size of the room and the bathroom. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. A full breakfast at the restaurant next door was a nice bonus. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Great value for the price. I look forward to our next stay!
Clean fresh room with friendly staff and food and bar attached so you don't have to leave the property once you check in!! I stay here on a regular basis and the rooms are top notch and a great value for the money !!
The Best Western Plus in Dubuque worked with our Vintage Chevrolet Club of America for our car tour last week very well. We had the parking we needed, we showed the movie "Field of Dreams" in their Theater, everything was great. I will stay there again and I recommend them to everyone I talk to. The sales dept worked with us on our banquet on Friday night and it was EXCELLENT.
Enjoyable visit and amenities. The breakfast was varied each day and appetizing. The room was quite large and fit our needs. We hope to stop there again in the future. It was close to the town and convenient for our visit.
We had a very comfortable stay. Staff was courteous and hospitable. Beds are soooo comfy; room was nice. I think there was more than 1 pool, but I'm not sure since I didn't use them. Pool area is in the center of many rooms. Nice thing is Target is up the street along with many places to eat.
Staff was courteous, helpful, and pleasant - which is the most important to me. I can't say enough about how nice all staff members were. Rooms were clean, full breakfast was delicious with a variety of choices. We even ate off of 'real' plates/glasses and silverware! :) Wifi worked great. We didn't use the pool/recreation area, but it looked like a fun place to hang and many people utilized it both nights. Besides the pool/hot tub, there was pingpong, pool, air hockey, and plenty of seating for parents and others. It also wasn't hot and stuffy like other hotel pool areas can sometimes be, making it impossible for anyone other than swimmers to enjoy. The attached restaurant had delicious food, a wide variety of beer, and is open late. I would definitely stay here again.
We always enjoys staying at this hotel whenever we are in town. Our children enjoy ping pong and pool. I love the pool. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Seems they are always doing improvements. This time our room had new carpet. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We forgot swim goggles and were able to purchase them at front desk. Breakfast is very good as well. We won't stay anywhere else when in Dubuque!
Stayed here weekend of September 21-23 for our sons' wedding and these guys dropped the ball! Front desk staff - 1 in particular - was rude and extremely unhelpful. Sales staff who set up the weddings were unavailable during setup to rectify any mistakes - we had to find kitchen staff and have them help us move tables and even had to find some tables ourselves. Had several members of the family and wedding party approach us to help with front desk because of their unwillingness to do anything more less go out of their way. These are only the things I SEEN - my daughter in law has a list of things that were not fulfilled on their part. Would not recommend for a wedding.
I stayed here while driving through Dubuque and I was amazed at the quality of this hotel. The staff were the friendliest ever, the rooms were so clean, the pool is huge, and breakfast is an all you can eat buffet. I loved this hotel and definitely recommend it!
Decided to take a last minute road trip, booked the same day. Senior discount available. Friendly staff. Very nice room with spa. Clean and comfortable. Pleased with the exercise room. Feel more choices would have been nice for breakfast. Would certainly stay again.
Have to say somewhat disappointed with this Best Western. We have stayed in a number over the years during our annual USA road trips. Where to start...at check in no information available to out of town visitors and having been allocated our room 238 we instantly noticed a very strong smell of smoke in a supposedly No Smoking Room! There is no way we would have wanted to stay in this room. So where is the no smoking policy being enforced? We immediately went back to check in to request a room move. As we said we could have been held responsible for the previous room allocation and smell of smoke. Have to say the rooms now look very dated and old fashioned. Dark dingy room and furnishings. We would actually question staying again in Best Western. Our room had torn voile curtains to the window. The rip must have easily been 2/3 feet long. The ice box on the fridge was so frozen you couldn't close the door to the ice box! Who these days has blankets on the beds so unhygienic and clearly I don't believe the fleece blanket is changed after each guest stays as we passed the cleaners twice during our stay and they definitely had no clean blankets on their carts! Also felt it was wrong guests smoking immediately outside the entrance to door to the rooms who you had to pass by surely there's a rule of being so many feet away from the property? Housekeeping kept the room tidy but on one day didn't empty all bins in the room! For the price we paid it was the most expensive of all our accommodation while touring the USA for 17 days and clearly not up to the reputation of the Best Western group and not up to usual standards. Hugely disappointing.
I have never been to Dubuque before and the staff here were wonderful informing me of areas to see and places to eat. Very friendly staff that enjoy what they do! You can tell that through their guest interactions. My room was very clean, set up well and comfortable. Near the pool area but very quiet. I was impressed with how clear this property was. Again a great reflection of the staff! Keep up the great work.
The rooms were clean and it came with all the amenities you would expect in a hotel room ( they were already provided you did not have to request anything additional.) Bed was very comfortable. The pool area was fantastic. Nice, family friendly hotel. We will search for Best Western Plus hotels for our next trips after this experience!
Our room was very nice & very clean. There is a large pool, ping pong & pool tables in the atrium (2 floor of rooms surround the atrium). We ate at Old Chicago which is attached. Breakfast is awesome as it is also at Old Chicago so the variety was better than the normal BW breakfast.
The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The room was clean, beautiful and comfortable. I wish I'd had time to use the pool, it looked like a nice area to swim and play grave's. I look forward to returning to the hotel with my family for a winter getaway.
Very relaxing for young Grandchildren to have fun in the pool and play pool the game - Great food at Chicago eating - excellent friendly staff and morning breakfast yummy! Beds were really relaxing and sleep was great after a fun Family filled day!
Breakfast and the room 5 stars. Exterior appearance at the entrance 1 star, dirty with cigarette butts lying around. The cement needs to be cleaned. I would return as everything inside the hotel was fine.
This was one oh the nicest Best Western properties we have stayed at. Beds were comfortable and room was just over all great .Breakfast was very good. The hotel staff was gracious and knowledgable. They helped us with guestions about the area. Great stay
We were in Dubuque for an event at Clarke University. This was the perfect location. I requested an upper floor quiet location. They gave us a third floor rear. The desk staff were very friendly and efficient. Extremely quiet just what we wanted. The Towels and linens were very good as were the amenities in the room. The room was exceptionally clean. The appearance of the game room, exercise room and pool area looked great. (we didn't use). The only reason for not a 5 is some of the carpeting etc throughout the hotel needed updated. Everything was VERY clean but some spots and it was dated. I would definitely stay here and tell my friends also!
Everything about this place was great, from the time Kaylan checked us in until we left. All the staff were so friendly and professional. Room was clean. Shuttled us every place we wanted to go. Drivers were very good. Will definitely be going back.
If you want a quiet night sleep, request a room far away from the pool. Watch your bill - staff doesn't apply travel cards as requested. Free breakfast requires you tip the staff - not happy. Same breakfast everyday - no variety.
We decided last minute to make a trip to Iowa. We had racked up quite a few reward points to apply towards one night's stay. The points came in handy since this trip was not budgeted. The trips across the country paid off! The room was amazing and very accommodating. Wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the rest of the amenities of the hotel, such as the pool, game area, and local restaturants
Rooms were nice and this hotel has a great poolside area for groups to gather and have food, play ganes, etc . Great front desk and restaurant manager was on the ball! Great location in town close to other shops and amenities, too!
My husband and I are expecting our baby girl at the end of September and we were looking forward to a little relaxing getaway. This hotel was very relaxing and comfortable. I really liked the pool area because it was indoor withan outdoor feel- with all the windows.
We had a great stay in the hotel, the pool was fun for the kids, the hotel was close to everything. The only thing that would have increased the level was if they changed the sheets while we were there. It is definitely a hotel we will stay at next time thru.
This hotel is beautiful and clean.. Comfy beds, pool and hot tub area were very nice. Lots of families having fun, great for couples too, great breakfast and Pizza the night before right next door..I booked for $80 on priceline.
Clean lobby, customer service professional, clean room, old furniture, no duvet, conference room need to be renovate, good buffet, free breakfast, free parking, near downtown. Didn't offer bottle of water at the check in. Wifi average quality.
We weren't expecting the size and cleanliness of this Hotel in Dubuque. The room was very freshly redecorated. My walk around the hotel showed all areas were (tho the rugs need cleaning). Traveling as a couple, we didn't use the pool, area, tho did eat a better than average breakfast. Even with only 10 min to go until the posted end time, they were bringing new eggs, etc, to feed the guests. I would give this an above average rating because of its redecoration, the size of the rooms, the layout, etc. which is unusual in towns this size in mid-America, in our experience.
Seemed like a lot of parties going on in the hotel. Way after quiet time the room next to us was partying till 1:15 a.m. told the desk and the cops on site and they were still loud. Threatening us they would knock out of room window and take us out. Not cool. They should have been thrown out of the hotel
We stayed in Dubuque for a couple of nights and stayed at the hotel. We chose the whirlpool suite. It is a large L shaped room. There is a part with a sleeper sofa, chair and tv, and then there is the king bed area with another tv. The room was spotless and nicely decorated. The whirlpool was nice but could be a little larger and have more jets, but none the less was very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and had a good shower with good water pressure. We used the indoor pool which was great. With the high window ceiling it almost felt like you were outside. Clean and plenty of lounge chairs and towels. There also is a table and chair area with a pool table and ping pong tables. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly with check in and shuttle requests. There's plenty of parking around the hotel also. The hotel is convenient to downtown, the parks, the Mississippi and the casinos. The hot breakfast is quite the plus that is served in their restaurant..
Overall, we had a good experience at the Best Western Dubuque. I completed the check-in the day prior via the email link I received. It worked very smoothly and our room was ready when we arrived late Friday night. The location is great as it's near the mall and there is a Target and many restaurants nearby. Hotel had a nice breakfast buffet and free wi-fi. All of the rooms are poolside and there is a very nice gathering area around the open pool area. This was the one drawback as it was very loud at night if you were trying to sleep prior to the pool closing.
Great hotel. Clean and overall very comfortable. We only stayed 1 night but wish we had time to do longer there. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of things to do on site. We had a clean spacious room. 2 Queens. Free breakfast served in the attached restaurant. Good selection of items. Short 20 - 30 minute ride to Field of Dreams site in Dyersville.
We stayed at BW Plus in Dubuque as wedding guests. Very impressed with motel amenities and all staff. We were upgraded as gold members which was a nice surprise upon check-in. Breakfast was wonderful as we usually find when staying at BWs.
On our way from Door County, we were looking for the perfect place to stay that would allow us a short drive to the Field of Dreams the next day. Check in process was easy, front desk folks were very pleasant, and room was very clean and ac worked very well! One request...don't let people smoke by your front door! On the way in and on the way out had to breathe smoky air. The benches in front are inviting, but inviting to smokers who don't realize or don't care that they are making the experience bad for others. Otherwise it was perfect! Great breakfast as part of the registration.
The Best Western Plus Hotel and Conference Center is an excellent place to stay while in the Dubuque Iowa area. Located on a main highway rt. 20, it has many rooms, a large indoor pool and lounge area, good breakfast in the morning and an assured nice night's sleep. The staff is extra friendly and courteous and very quick in check-in and out. The immediate area has a myriad of restaurants, stores and shopping areas. Easy to find, and convenient for travelers passing through. It hosts events and parties too.
The Best Western is an excellent hotel, with lots of amenities and nice, clean rooms. The pool is terrific. Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to assist you. There is an attached Old Chicago restaurant and pub that has excellent food and drinks. The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet that is terrific.
We stayed here end of June. The kids really enjoyed the pool area and the ping pong area too. Lots of room for get togethers. We were here for a family reunion. All enjoyed their time here. The rooms were big enough and beds weren't too bad. Fridge and microwave for convenience. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
We have our kids bday parties here every year and we absolutely love it! We get a pool view room, 15 feet from the pool itself! It's nice to be able to just sit back and relax while watching the kids play! It has a great atmosphere. The only thing I wish they would fix is the latch on the gates. It should be placed on the opposite side so the little ones can't unlatch it and run into the pool area. It happened to our 2 year old last year and luckily we were sitting right there. Other than that, we love coming here. A little pricey, but it is fun!
This was a one night stop and thank goodness. The walls and connecting rooms are paper thin. Our neighbors we up until 11, talking (not yelling) and laughing, and we heard every word. There was also a baseball team there, and we heard the young boys running the hallways, and we were on the top floor, away from the pool section. The breakfast was the only thing that kept them from getting a one. It is attached to a restaurant (reviewed their pizza last night, nothing special), which gives you an above average hotel complimentary breakfast. We told the front desk, and she said, I'm not sure what we could have done, because they weren't yelling. I replied, it's not them, it's your poor sound insulation, and thin walls and doors.
This was a great place to stay for my son's graduation in Dubuque. The only problem we had was that the restaurant attached to the hotel was under renovation which they didn't make known ahead of time. The breakfast normally takes place in the restaurant but during this time was in a smaller room and the variety of food was smaller. Would have been nice to know ahead of time. Otherwise, good stay!
I booked this room for a quick one night stay and we just expected to be in and out. However, once we saw the pool area we were eager to stick around longer the next morning. The pool area is unique, light and bright. There are ping pong tables, air hockey and lots of activity, we spent a very fun morning here. The hotel was clean, the beds comfortable and the staff we interacted with was friendly. This may not be the right choice if you like quiet, this is clearly a hotel of choice for large groups with kids and teens. There were several youth baseball teams staying and the boys were running around and parents were hanging out. This didn't bother us and our room was not near the pool so was very quiet. I would definitely stay again.
My wife and I were traveling through Iowa and stopped in the Best Western while in Dubuque. The hotel was quiet, clean and the hotel staff was very friendly. They had a nice workout facility, pool and a pretty good free breakfast. I would recommend if in the area.
Great Hotel, Good Continental breakfast. Conveniently located near (4 minutes) the Dubuque Sports Complex. Clean rooms, great staff and a big common pool area with a lot of seating to accommodate larger groups.
This was our second visit to this hotel. The hotel was clean, the pool was nice and we had a great breakfast. The weather was cold and rainy but it did not matter with the nice indoor pool. We will be back with more friends and family.
Very clean room and property. All staff were pleasant and professional to deal with. My overall expectations were meant for my 1 week stay at the hotel. I would definitely recommend the Best Western Plus to anyone who is traveling to Dubuque, Iowa
The Best Western Dubuque and Conference Center is one of the best hotels in the Midwest, if you're on travel or Leisure I would recommend staying here. The staff is wonderful the bar and restaurant are fantastic and the breakfast is exceptional.
Alway a great experience. I've been coming here for years. Clean rooms, friendly staff. Housekeeping are so helpful and friendly. Along with the front desk. Katlin is alway friendly and very helpful. Ill always choose this Best .western
This is one of the best stays I have had in Dubuque. Chammps Bar & Grill hits it right on the head with the food and sports on all the T.V.'s. Food was great! The staff was very nice. The rooms were very nice. Beds were a little hard for my liking but still had a great nights sleep. Fitness room has all the equipment you need to burn off what I ate. Overall great experience.
Do not overlook this hotel- my conference was executed impeccably; the staff was warm, friendly and welcoming; and my room and bathroom were SO CLEAN!! Convenient location, restaurant on-site and even the families looked like they were having a lot of fun. Oh and what a deal! I would return.
The pool area is great! All windows so lots of natural light, big pool, place to eat or meet up with friends- very well kept too! There is a pool table and ping pong tables too. The fitness room was well equipped, and there was a little game room too.
We met with family from about an hour in all directions and had a group from an infant to about 65, and we all enjoyed our stay. The pergola/seating area by the pool was perfect for sitting to visit, bring food and drink, and still be able to watch family members swim. We are planning for this to be an annual thing!
Got a deal through Priceline to stay here for a night and we were not disappointed. Conveniently located near many things (gas, food, downtown, etc) with an on-site restaurant/bar, the hotel staff were friendly at check-in, attentive in the restaurant/bar, the room and hotel in general were clean, and we had no complaints. People who don't like the smell of pools be warned - walk in to the lobby and it smells like chlorine and only gets stronger as you are in the pool area. That said, the pool area is big and pleasant for groups to sit and play cards etc. Quiet at night and can't really hear road noise, both pluses!
My kids and I randomly picked Dubuque to visit as we are from WI and have never been there for a mini spring break. I researched all the 3* hotels in the area and decided to just book the hotwire deal where you prepay and find out the hotel afterwards and we were booked at the Best Western. It's a few miles from the downtown area, but an easy few minutes drive time. We checked in and made it to our room to discover we had 1 king bed ( I should have known better to ask as I usually do, but forgot!). No biggie. My boys are 10 and 8 so we decided to have a slumber party together! The rooms are clean, equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. The pool area is great. There is a hot tub, pool tables, ping pong and a game room. Lots of vending machines throughout the hotel with a dip and dots machine in the game room that my kids were excited for! There is restaurant/bar attached to the hotel that has really great food, and what's ever better.... a warm breakfast buffet included in the stay. The next morning, I asked if we could be moved to a room with 2 beds as my night laying with 2 kids in bed was restless. The front desk staff was always so pleasant and accommodating. They switched us with a smile on their face. I prepaid for 2 nights, but unfortunately, WI was getting a snow storm starting the following morning so we cut our stay short and checked out a day early to avoid driving through the 12 inches of snow. My loss in money, but safety first. We were very sad we had to leave early. It's a great hotel for a great price. We would definitely stay again.
Best western hotels can be hit or miss as to quality --- this one was a big hit! A great AAA rate, super large room and small but very well equipped work out room. Champs restaurant is attached which was great with cold weather and the complimentary hot buffet breakfast was served there, too.
The Best Western in Dubuque was easy to find, and the check in was quick. Desk clerk was very helpful. We received a voucher for breakfast at the restaurant next door. It was Easter Sunday, so they had a special buffet for breakfast. The room was clean and quiet, the beds were very comfortable. Very nice overall stay.
Stayed here with my wife and dog for a night while in town. The hotel has nice rooms that are located on the back side where you can let your dog out. Staff was very friendly and had dog treats and clean up bags available when checked in. Pet fee is reasonable. Only call out is that we had selected a King room but the "pet friendly" rooms are only 2 Queens which we did not know ahead of time. Fine for us but good to know for future. It was a little noisy being right by the doors and staff room which made our dog a little nervous hearing noises at all times of the night. Would ask to be further away next time. Overall, was very convenient and pet friendly hotel and would stay here again.
Me and my wife love to stay here when we visit galena. Great place to relax, king suite with jacuzzi is a great deal. We are looking forward to start bringing our kids here soon. They have a great pool area with hot tube
I have stayed in this hotel many times in the last two years since I have business in the area. Quality and value for the king suite (and other rooms) is difficult to beat at other hotels. There is also the convenience of a restaurant attached.
The hotel was located in a perfect spot. It includes the Champs Restaurant which is where you eat a hot breakfast. Food was great. The atrium has a nice pool and hot tub. Lot so tables to gather people around along with a pool table and ping pong. The room was clean and the internet was quick. Great Place. I will be back again soon!
The hotel is very clean and the room was very clean and spacious too. The pool and hot tub area is very nice too. The best beyond the great room was the excellent free breakfast. It is the best hotel free breakfast I have ever had. I would stay here again in a heart beat. My kids even noticed the high quality of this hotel.
Yes it really is the best hotel near galena and in Dubuque. That is saying a lot because I've stayed in other ones. It's a high class hotel! Clean, quiet, comfortable beds, and the bathroom amazing. Pool facilities are well kept and very family friendly. When quiet hours occurred the hotel assured it happened. We saw all kinds of people celebrating wedding showers to family gatherings.
We made reservations to stay here a week in advance. We were impressed with the quick check in, they had our room keys and paper work ready for us to sign! Our room was a king size bed on the first floor, and was very clean and spacious. They also offer complimentary transportation to any local destination within a certain distance. We asked to go to a local Casino and they had their brand new van at the front door within minutes! They also came to get us at the casino to bring us back! What a wonderful service! The pool area is huge with ping pong and pool tables. Breakfast in the morning was excellent! The connected restaurant Champs is where the breakfast is served. Employees were attentive to cleaning tables and restocking food items! We suggest sitting in the room with the fireplace where the food is stationed! We loved this place, and highly recommend this specific motel for your next stay in Dubuque, Iowa!
I was so grateful to check into this lovely hotel, weary and stressed after a long day driving through hazardous winter weather. Made a reservation online and upon arrival sweet, smiling Jasmine Jones at the front desk made me feel instantly welcome. Carl was also cheerful and helpful and between the two of them, they were able to place me in a ground floor room as requested. Automatic front doors made it easy to bring everything in. My room was inviting, well appointed and absolutely spotless. Kudos to housekeeping ~ everything was sparkling. Loved the illuminated bathroom mirror. Granite vanity. I was too tired to eat but the room service menu for the restaurant adjoining the hotel sure looked tempting. Fridge/micro & flat screen TV with lots of channels to choose from. Bedside nightstand had docking station with 2-USB ports & 2 easily accessible outlets. Table lamp on the desk had an outlet in the base. Free wifi with plenty of signal strength to check weather radar and find the safest route home. Slept well on super comfortable bed with lots of fat, fluffy pillows & triple sheeting. Woke up to find my receipt under the door via Express checkout. Kaylyn was cheerful and professional at the front desk. Would DEFINITELY stay here again ~ soon, I hope!
We had a reservation so check-in was very easy. Room clean and well appointed; bathroom updated recently. Staff was excellent. Breakfast was in attached restaurant - very good. Dinner in restaurant (Champps) was excellent. Will definitely return here.
This hotel is one of the nicest weve stayed in in the area, wonderful ammenatities, beautiful over the top rooms, and wow what a spread for breakfast!! Got a picky little one they've get them taken care of here
The room was very clean and they accommodated us with extra pillows and blankets very quickly. We checked in around 8pm and let the kids go swimming right away. One of the gates surrounding the pool was already locked for the night which wasn't very welcoming to have to walk all the way around to the opposite side. We were disappointed that not only did the pool close entirely at 10pm but so did the surrounding atrium. My husband and I like to watch movies on our iPad in the common area directly outside our hotel room so we can still have an eye on our kids but they can sleep without distraction. We specifically chose this hotel because of the atrium area and surrounding poolside rooms. However an unfriendly staff member kicked us out of the atrium at 10:15 because he “had to clean and lock up”. Based on the cleanliness of the atrium it's obvious not much cleaning takes place in the common areas. The tables had food stuck to them and floor desperately needed a vaccuum (see pictures with dead leaves all over from the plants).
Best hotel in Dubuque serving a fresh, hot and cold breakfast buffet daily. Plenty of parking, friendly staff, clean pool area with towel service, fitness area, near grocery and hardware shopping, the Kennedy Mall, movie theaters and restaurants. We stay here at least twice a year for week at a time.
Check-in was fast and the young lady was nice. The room was amazing! It took only minutes to decide to stay longer! 2 beds, 4 pillows each. Clean, comfortable and spacious! Excellent Wi-Fi. Good channel line-up with a good sized TV. Excellent amount of parking. Bathroom was large and had plenty of towels that were fluffy and had no stains or holes. Fridge/microw, 2 chairs and small table and a desk. A little loud on Saturday and into the evening with kids running the halls (5+hrs), but at quiet time, it was just that...quiet! Champps food was AMAZING! With room service available. Super nice staff and fast room service! Elevator available. Truck parking. Affordable guest laundry. Would recommend this location and would stay again if in the area! Enjoyed our stay....happy we extended our reservation!
The pool area was packed with parties and we couldn't even swim or play any ping pong or pool. There were outside guest with coats on and they used the pool. Half the people in the pool area didn't even have arm bands that was supposed to be worn in able to use the pool What is the sense of handing out arm bands if nobody even checked if they were worn. No staff was even around the area checking on anybody. There were kids running up and down the halls knocking on doors. Almost all the games in the game room didn't work. I asked the desk attendant when we check out if this was allowed and she gave, in a nasty way, saying that the space was rented out and that anybody could be in the pool area. The rooms smelled like mildew. Just a very bad experience.
Everything was good for the most part. Our food was not that great but manager did correct the issue. There were also so many kids. In the past years this was an adult thing to do for new years eve and it sucked that i could not use pool or hot tub because the amount of kids that were there.
I recently stayed at the Best Western Plus for Christmas and was very pleased with my stay. My family and I had 5 rooms near the court yard. We were able to use the tables to set up food. The kids enjoyed the pool and ping pong table. It was fun. Our room was clean and quiet. The breakfast buffet was good. I have stayed here in the past and will definitely stay again.
not managed very well to many children running not a safe environment in pool area didn't take responsibility for other guest should have some one to keep safety in pool area. Also reported to front desk both nights we tried to use hot tub and they were playing beach ball and football in hot tub. Report both nights to front desk no one came out to pool and nothing done about it . Thanks Robert Gorham
This is the best place to stay in Dubuque. Nice rooms, very reasonable rates, great breakfast and helpful friendly staff. Since we visit family here every year we will continue to use this as our place of choice we highly recommend to everyone
Visiting family in the area. Best Western provided an excellent three nights for me and my dog. The fee for my pet was reasonable and the location is accessible to all of Dubuque. I wish I had had time to make better use of the facilities at this great location. The courtyard atrium with indoor pool and hot tub looked very inviting.
room was clean. pool area is awesome. a lot of seating with huge open sun roof. had my daughter's birthday party here would recommend it/and do it again in the future. a good breakfast in the morning too.
Terrible Bed For A Hot Tub Suite! Like sleeping on the floor. No continental only a restaurant to go to. To Noisy if your looking for a quite place NOT here. We usually stay at Hampton Inn when visiting Dubuque but noticed BW had better reviews but not true!
This hotel is always clean and the location and attached to Champs restaurant are a plus. I would recommend this hotel. The staff is very helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. Rooms near the pool available but others in other part of hotel are quieter if looking for that.
In a nut shell the hotel,, the rooms, staff, location, breakfast were all 5 star. will definitely stay again and would recommend to family and friends.Chris the cook and his staff in the breakfast room were outstanding.
This hotel was a great choice very clean and well kept. Pool area was nice. Very pleased with breakfast best I have had at a hotel!! Would for sure stay here again very good value. Would for sure stay here again.
I stayed in the BEST room! It was clean, nicely decorated; you might say cozy. The staff were all friendly and courteous. I was staying at the hotel due to business and they gave me a room that was close to an exit. That was wonderful when I had to leave early in the morning or late at night. The best part is they anticipated my needs; I didn't have to request anything! Thank you~!
My daughter is considering one of the area universities, and I stayed at this hotel on a college visit. I experienced some highs and a one notable low. The low - I had a very poor check-in experience at this hotel. To summarize, I arrived early, at 11AM. I didn't expect my room to be ready, but approached the front desk to ask. They suggested that I check back at about 2. They did not offer to phone or text me when the room was ready. They did not offer to hold my bags or let me use the pool area. I left the hotel, went to lunch, did some shopping. I phoned the hotel at 2. They told me that it would be about another 30-40 min. Again, no offer to phone or text when room was ready. I returned to the hotel 20 minutes later, at 2:30 and was told "another 40 minutes". No offer to phone or text when room was ready. I returned at 3:15 and the room was ready. If it had not been, I'd have been extremely disappointed. I travel a lot. I arrive early to hotels a lot. I know that a person is lucky if a room is ready early. I also know that typically, staff offer to hold bags, use amenities, offers to phone/text when room is ready. I know that quite often, when a person arrives early, that guest's room prep is prioritized. Clearly, my room was not prioritized. What a bummer. If, at 11:00, I was told that there was no chance that my room would be ready until check-in time at 3:00 (actually later, at 3:15), I might have planned activities including visiting the museum at the riverfront or going to a movie at the theater nearby. Instead, I went to lunch, went to the mall, phoned, was given a 30 min timeframe, went to Pier 1, returned to the hotel, was sorry, another 40 min, and went to Target. Good thing there was plenty of shopping nearby. Absolute waste of a day. By 3:15 I was pretty salty about the over-promise and under-deliver situation. Now, to the highs - room was very clean and quite roomy. Beds were comfortable. The pool area was exceptional. My younger daughter loved it. The pool is in a large atrium with rooms opening right to the pool, or to a hallway above the pool with access very quick, down a short flight of stairs. Included in the pool area is a large patio section with tables and chairs, ping pong, and pool tables. There is a small game room with air hocket. Very nice for families. Not very nice if you're looking for a place to nap in the afternoon, as the pool noise is unavoidable. But if you're looking at this hotel, you're probably not looking for a quiet out-of-the-way hotel. One very noticeable plus for me, is that neither the property nor the room reeked of chlorine - at all. Yes, some pool smell, but it's a huge room with a huge atrium. None of the horrid chlorine smell. Champps sports bar/restaurant is attached to the hotel through the lobby. Even on a quite packed Saturday night with lots of big college football games, dinner service was quick and excellent. Breakfast was included with the stay, and a buffett was set up at Champps. Nice breakfast, with great variety from cereal and yogurt to biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, etc. Location - the location can not be beat if you're visiting one of the area colleges. Very easy in-out, everything is close. Granted, there are some hotels nearby, but this one is very quick off and on the highway. One very high high in regard to service, which will be the one thing that could keep me coming back after the poor check-in experience - I am an early riser. As such, I often sit around reading in hotel common areas until my family wakes up. I arrived in the lobby at 4:30AM. Coffee is not out at that hour - anywhere. After reading for a couple of minutes, I saw the front desk staff a man whose name I did not get. I asked him when coffee might be available. He said "I usually put it out at about 5, but I saw you come down, and I put a fresh pot on. It's almost ready." About 2 minutes later he called over to me to let me know that coffee was ready and he directed me to the coffee area. He could have waited until 5 to make the coffee as usual. He could have waited until I asked for coffee. But this man saw a service opportunity and took it -making coffee before I even asked for it. Congrats to the gentleman working early on the morning of Sunday Nov 12 - nice job and thank you!!!! And so - I booked this hotel despite being a Hilton member (Hampton virtually next door) because of the pool and activity area as well as the attached sport bar/restaurant. At time of check in, I said I'd never book there again. After the great early-morning customer service experience, I changed my mind. I would book there again. And probably will, as my daughter is highly likely to be going to the college she visited.
Passing thru on our way to California...needed a place to rest. Trip Advisor reviews were spot on. Excellent place to stay, if I could have I would have stayed longer. Indoor pool looked so inviting but no time to use it. Room very clean, beds comfy, we had our doggy with us and they were very accommodating. Complimentary breakfast was excellent as is the restaurant Champps for dinner. Not too pricey and wonderful service. If we are ever back this way this is our hotel of choice.
we had 3 families stay for the weekend, enjoyed the pool and the facility very much. Would stay here again. Our families had so much fun playing all the games and just enjoying the facility. We would recommend this place to stay at.
We stayed here after attending the Galena Halloween parade. This was a great family hotel with a large pool and seating area. Good attached restaurant with good service a little pricy. Buffet breakfast included, could have used a few more options but the food quality was good. Room was clean and very comfortable. Staff is friendly and very helpful.
Be prepared to be kept awake until the pool area clears out. The atrium is very neat while swimming, but loud when you return to your room, as it echoes. Pool water and area very cold. Good hot breakfast though!
Our room was large and very clean. The king bed was comfortable. The breakfast was very good, food was hot and the coffee was good. They have a wonderful pool area, great for families with a nice seating area to socialize in.
My family loves this BW! They have comfortable beds, great service, and make you feel welcome. Our daughter goes to College here and we stay at this BW for the past three years. Be sure not to reserve a pool view room as it can be somewhat noisey. If they would have offered bacon for breakfast they would have scored a 10 rating in my book.
Good hotel, pool, table tennis, arcade games and a guest laundry, Champs restaurant next door is where you go for breakfast,The breakfast on our first morning of three, was the best we came across in a month of traveling the US.First class. Chris the chef who came round and checked everything was ok . Met John Pezino the general manager for catering in the corridor of hotel, passed the time of day. He recommended if eating tonight the fish, chips were good. And they were. The night before we left met John working in bar area, said he would get Chris the chef to cook a Western omelette for us . A really kind thought and very tasty. The hotel has every thing you need. Highly recommended.
Great overnight hotel stay. My check in was quick, staff were polite and room was clean. Pool area was nice although I did not use. Restaurant/bar attached was a great convenience. Definitely would stay here again.
The hotel staff and stay was wonderful however the service at the attached restaurant Champs for our Friday evening meal was not the greatest. Numerous frustrations throughout the dining experience. Felt rushed condiments for brought, was giving plastic tumblers to pour a beer in would have preferred a chilled glass and when we asked for one they were annoyed.
I have stayed here many times in the past few years, and have never had a complaint. When I fly in & out of the Dubuque airport it is so convenient to use the hotel's shuttle. It is also very convenient to get a bite to eat & a beer at Champs where one does not have to walk outdoors. The staff has always been friendly & helpful, the rooms & beds are very comfortable, and the pool area is great for indoor parties. This is the first time I stayed with my husband, and he enjoyed it. In the past, I stayed for a family birthday, and other times I have stayed alone on my way to Wisconsin. Always a good experience.
Good value in a good location. Many amenities on site. Indoor pool center with pool tables, ping pong, and plenty of tables and chairs. On site restaurant and sports bar. Shuttle to casino and downtown area only 5 minute ride. Recommend.
Me and two friend are driving the Lewis and Clark Trail fro m Louisville to Portland, Oregon. Stayed last at this motel. Nice facility. Friendly front desk staff, clean spacious room and good eats in the hotels restaurant "Champs". Rooms rate includes free Wifi and breakfast. Convenient location on State Rd. 20 , with easy access.
Busy but grear restaurant onsite. I would definitely stay again. Very friendly and comfortable rooms. This was an anniversary weekend and we enjoyed our stay. Manager at the bar was very involved when we had a minor issue. Great customer service!
What a great hotel! The staff was unbelievably friendly, helpful and accommodating! The room was spacious, quiet and super clean! The pool area was clean and had several other things to do, such as, ping pong tables. The breakfast was a true hot breakfast! Would definitely return if in the area!
Had a nice stay, but the reservation process beforehand was terrible. Could not get the Loras College special rate online, so I called the 800 number to make reservation who told me that I need to call the hotel directly to get the special rate. When I called the hotel, they answered "Hello" instead of "BW Dubuque." They said there was no college special rate but I made the reservation anyway. When I did not get an email to confirm reservation, I called again to discover that they reserved one night for one person instead of the two nights two persons I requested. Correction was made. Later spoke to college staff who confirmed the special rate was still valid, so called hotel a third time to adjust rate. Nice caring staff and good accommodations during stay, but too bad these positives are not reflected in the reservation process.
Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel & Conference Center was great! Staff was very nice and helpful. Nice having the Champps restaurant on the hotel grounds. Thanks to hotel manager Mr. Guthrie and his staff for a great visit to Dubuque!
Very clean appearance, the staff were courteous and knoweledgable. Rooms were exceptionally clean and smelled fresh. Pool area was clean and organized. Breakfast had many tasteful options and the staff maintained the food stations expediaty.
The reception area was perfect. Many great memories were made and the staff was transparent which was great. They worked around everyone and there was no problems. The Staff assisted with everything we needed with no hesitation. I would stay with Best western any time.
We stayed on the 3rd floor and enjoyed the accomodations...Room large enough for two and coffee maker , microwave and refrigerator a plus. Room darkening shade a welcomed item . There is an indoor pool , restaurant -Champs- on the property ..exercise room .Staff was quite pleasant and helpful
Mike Guthrie is the reason why we enjoyed our most recent stay and intend on returning for many future visits. He is a great role model for people in the hospitality industry. He knows how to make sure guests enjoy their stay. Great facilities, great room and full breakfast. Will definitely come back thanks to Mike.
We had a great experience here! Room was clean and comfortable. The bed was excellent! Fun open area for recreation. Game room was a nice touch. Fitness room was ok, but at least they had one. Breakfast was awesome!!
Front desk service was excellent, accommodations were fair for the price point. The Breakfast Buffet was plentiful but not the correct serving temperature. The pool area indoor atrium was very nice and the poolwas kept sparkling clear. The hotel was located somewhat away form anything you could walk too. You would not want this location if you did not have a vehicle. It was a quiet location and we felt safe at all times.
Our dragon boat team stayed at the Best Western in Dubuque. The continental breakfast hours were from 7:00 - 10:00 but our team needed to leave the hotel a little after 7am to be at the park. It was suggested by the checkin staff that our captain speak with the chief and he graciously called in his kitchen staff 30mins earlier to accommodate us. Now this is great customer service!!!! Thank you so very much!!!
I stay here often for business in the Dubuque area. This hotel is a good value, with comfortable beds and Champs restaurant attached. The workout room is small but gets the job done :) Breakfast is included at Champs and it is a nice spread that rotates through out the week.
Wow whst a cool hotel nice hot tub and restaurant nice snd quiet and they even gave me a discount for a work stay and the restaurant attached has s great selection of beers and craft beer 5 stars for me
Nice hotel, my son loved the atrium area with the ping pong tables, pool table and swimming pool. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely stay here when in the area again.
We stayed at this BW over Labor Day weekend and it was very busy. The staff were friendly, room was clean, and breakfast was great. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is that it was VERY LOUD. The rooms all face inward towards the pool area and they are not at all soundproof. Pool hours on the weekend are until 11:00 pm. We could hear kids running, screaming, and even banging on the door late into the evening. I could people talking plain as day outside the room. We had a horrible time getting our 3 year old to sleep with all the noise. Even the TV didn't drown out the outside noise. I'm sure it is quieter during the week but If you plan on staying here on a weekend, you may want to bring some earplugs.
We were visiting from Sherwood, Oregon to watch our college boys' play their football season opener. The whole team, plus parents stayed at this hotel. Our experience was top notch and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Dubuque area!
We just spent two nights at the Best Western Plus Dubuque with a football team that consisted of 81 folks in the traveling party. This hotel did an amazing job of serving our team. From the minute we checked in (at 1:30am in the morning) until the moment we left, the front desk, maid service, and restaurant staff provided excellent service. Our boys can eat and it is more often that a hotel does not provide enough food to truly feed our boys. But each and every meal (two different breakfast and dinner) they cooked lots of good quality food. The restaurant staff also went out of their way to meet dietary restrictions. I would not hesitate to stay here in the future.
I haven't stayed at a Best Western in a long time, but took a flyer on this one, based on location and passable reviews. Older property that could use some updates. Reasonably well maintained. Staff was fine. Breakfast, too -- located in adjoining restaurant (Champs). Had an exercise room that was a little cramped but adequate. Had a large pool area and hot tub that were good. Rooms were somewhat dark and dingy with older furniture. Room was clean enough, though. I think it would have been fine at a lower price point, but just didn't think it was on a par with places where I typically stay (Hampton Inn, Hyatt Place, Holiday Inn Express, etc.) at a similar price point. If you need to stay in that area, it's OK, but if you have flexibility on where you stay in Dubuque area, you may want to explore other options.
Staff was friendly and the room was clean.Would stay again if I was in the area. The free shuttle was nice and the staff was friendly. Stayed next to the pool and it was noisy but expected. The hotel was full and couldn't switch rooms
We stayed for 2 nights at this Dubuque Best Western. Overall we had a good experience. The staff was professional and very helpful. I had taught in Dubuque back in the early 80's and it was interesting to see how the city has grown. Our room was great and I loved having a daily newspaper outside my door each morning even on Sunday. The breakfast buffet was good but I would have liked to see different items the second day. They were exactly the same.
Avoid pool rooms and times when there are big groups if you prefer a quiet room. Room could have been cleaner and brighter. Felt dingy and run down in the room even though lobby is up to date and nice. Lots of parking and convienient location.
First time staying at this hotel and first time at a Best Western in a long while. Very impressed with lobby, restaurant, and facilities overall. Huge pool atrium. Pool and hot tub were of adequate size, and tons of seating at tables in pool area. I am sure this hotel is busy on winter weekends. Rooms were very nice, however walls were pretty thin and noise from adjoining rooms was very noticeable. Breakfast was included at restaurant attached to the hotel, and it was an excellent buffet style hot breakfast. Compared to the nearby Grand Harbor, the rooms were much nicer at the Best Western than Grand Harbor. Pool area wasn't as extensive, but everything was not as run down as Grand Harbor. Would definitely consider this hotel with kids wanting indoor activities at a hotel.
The registration form has a line for guests to initial agreeing they will not smoke in rooms. When we checked into our room it reeked of cigarette smoke. We are not smokers. So much for getting a noon-smoking room. They do have a very nice breakfast buffet.
I highly recommend this hotel. The front desk staff checked on us after seeing the room - which was appreciated. The microwave and refrigerator were helpful to have for additional food items. The breakfast in the morning provided more selections than most hotels with free breakfast. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. We did not experience any issues with wifi connection. No complaints!
This hotel was set up perfectly for our family gathering with a common space to visit and have kids swim. We especially liked having poolside rooms, and using the ping pong tables and pool tables. We will stay here again
Breakfast is great. Other guests were noisy at times, but never long enough for us to complain. Room was nice and staff are very pleasant. Mini fridge and microwave in the room are handy, and hidden under the tv - neat. Shower set up was different, but functional. Overall great value and room.
Great for families but terrible for those who want peace and quiet. The rooms are located around an indoor pool that is extremely noisy. The rooms are good size, clean and newer. The breakfast room was dark and dingy and the food selection was limited.
The rooms are big and clean. The breakfast was great. If you don't want to drive somewhere for dinner, you can go to Champs restaurant that is connected to the hotel. The only thing I didn't care for was the pool and hot tub are near the front door. Not private enough for me. You can also play ping pong and pool there.
Absolutely one of the best Best Western motels we have stayed in! Awesome staff and great service! One of the best restaurants we have eaten in! Food was awesome and tasty! Breakfast was delicious as well!
Nice spacious room. Clean. Pleasant staff. I have 2 issues with this place. 1. This is a conference center. But the accommodations for working at the desk are very poor. There is no outlet to plug in a computer or charge a phone. I had to call the staff to come and find a way to plug me in. They had to plug in a power strip behind a very heavy piece of furniture and they had to unplug a light to access an outlet. This is all very inconvenient in you need to work on your computer. Also, the desk chair is way too low. At the low setting it is sitting on the floor. At the high position it is way too low for the desk. Again, this is not appropriate for a conference center where people are working. 2. The server on the hotel WIFI would not allow me to log into other hotel sites to book future reservations. I had to do it on my cell phone. I kept getting access denied on several competing hotel sites. I find this totally unacceptable.
I couldn't be more thrilled with this hotel if they hand delivered Jeremy Renner to my door. We stayed there in mid-July 2017 along with our dog Radar and it was simply marvelous. The staff were courteous and kind, the room was clean and comfortable, the pool area was spacious and fun. Having Champps connected directly to the hotel, as well as hosting breakfast and room service was a dream (I especially loved their flatbread); they were quite accommodating as well as our dog is a service dog. Their staff was, as well, friendly and kind. If there WERE a critique it would be this....unless you're okay with a lot of evening noise then don't get a pool side or pool view room. We were admittedly naive to it but it was quite noisy from about 4:30 p.m. up until the pool closed and with some totally not self aware guests, very noisy even after that one night. The staff though was quick to respond to customer concerns about this. If you want to swim in the pool without a lot of children or others I would highly recommend swimming right away in the morning or mid-day, as I did, and it didn't start to get busy until about 4:30 p.m. We plan on making this trip a yearly trip and we plan on staying here every year but from here on out will be requesting a third or fourth floor room. Oh, the Dipping Dots machine was a nice surprise as well.
Great food, nice and clean rooms, professional and helpful staff. Beautiful hotel will welcome you inside... offers a great family activity area around the atrium pool inside. Plenty of things for the family to do in the surrounding Dubuque area. The buffet breakfast offered a large variety of delicious breakfast options, plus 3 kinds of juice, fresh fruit, and a delicious lemon zuccinni bread... yum. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for a quality night stay.
The LINDA Convention was held here this year and the accommodations were wonderful. Along with a great room and very helpful staff, the dinner we had on July 22nd was beyond my expectations! My grandson is attending University of Dubuque this fall so considering where I will stay when I visit, your hotel will be #1 on my list!!!
Everyone I met at this hotel was a great asset from my planning the convention to the personal interest in helping me out with anything I needed. I worked on this for a year and a half. During the phone calls and emails, I was assured everything would be taken care of and the staff got back to me within 24 hours on any thing I presented to them. What a wonderful group of people. The accommodations, as well, met all my expectations. Definitely would recommend this hotel for anyone coming to this area.
This hotel was clean, and had a more modern decor. The pool and hot tub area in the atrium were quite nice, however very noisy. When there is a larger number of people in the atrium/pool area, the sound echo's and you can hear it in the rooms that surround the pool. However, once 11pm came, security was very efficient at making sure the noise levels were zero!
This yrs. convention was in Dubuque and Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel & Conference Center was selected site. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, staff were courtesy and attended from daily housekeeping (my room always clean and bed comfy ) to front staff arranging shuttle service. The breakfast buffet was very good every morning. I enjoyed the atrium, hot tub and pool too. Overall, excellent place to stay
All staff were pleasant and friendly and obviously took time to make my hotel experience exceptional. All areas were in good condition and extremely clean. Breakfast excellent and abundant. Comfortable bed. Bathtub was a bonus as was parking close to my room.
Our room was not ready at check in time when we needed it, but once we got in it was nice. We had a cool pool view room but at night it was noisy until the pool closed. Housekeeping came before 10am then we were gone the rest of the day and did not come back to clean the room.
Best overall employees at a hotel I've ever stayed at. Comfortable rooms, great pool area and the best breakfast EVER! Dubuque is a charming town, with numerous area amenites. I highly recommend the Best Western Plus in Dubuque, IA for your next stay. I stayed for 5 days and loved it!
This is a great place to stay for families for a great value! The restaurant is wonderful, pool area clean and large, extra games, dip n dots vending machine, etc... We had our whole family there from 1 year old-53, there were 20 of us and we had a great time! The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming!
Great breakfast. Great pool. Very attractive property. They will shuttle you downtown and back whenever you want. Pet friendly. Staff wonderful. Clean laundry room. Convenient location. Recommend highly.
Best Western is the best bang -for -the -buck in the Galena -Dubuque Area for a couple, We do super club dinner and dancing, Mississippi River parks tours and cruises, and strolls along the river front. There is plenty of Casino opportunities for gambling (don't do) and fine dinning. close enough to experience the shops and bars/restaurants in Galena and still experience a bigger city life in Dubuque.
This is a great property all-around. The staff are very friendly and seem very caring. The property is very clean and updated. Our room was very nice, with a counter and mirror outside the bathroom. The room was nicely decorated. The hallways had recently been updated with new carpeting. We didn't use the pool, but it looked very nice. Ping pong tables and other games are available. The attached Champs restaurant was very convenient being attached to the motel. The food at the bar/restaurant was very good. Plenty of parking. Friendly to motorcycles as they let us park under the entrance canopy. Plenty of conference rooms and a nice meeting theater available, as well. The motel is also close to many food options. You won't regret staying here.
great customer service. got the national mississippi river aquarium package. it was so worth it. got my bang for my buck. the pool and hot tub was wonderful. game room was so much fun. can't wait til next time!!
My 15 year old niece and I had a great experience at the hotel. The room was very nice and clean and my niece said the hotel was "luxurious." The staff was courteous and professional. The food was great. I will stay here again.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for his birthday. The thing that we loved the most: the mirror in the bathroom! Now we're trying to find the same one for our bathroom. The room was extremely clean, and the bed was so comfy! We went when there was a conference and many little kids around, so it felt like we were always hearing screams from an upset child
We recently stayed at the hotel for a golf outing. We want to give a huge shout out to Morgan the night bartender at champs. She was wonderful took such great care of us and allowed us to have a blast. She made our stay the best. We were a rowdy fun crowd of 14 friends and were treated like we were at our friendly hang out back home in Madison. Even got the whole bar to do the wave!!!!!Thanks again Morgan you Rock!!! PS the Iowa deputy was pretty great to us too (no one got in trouble). See you all next year :)
We had a really nice, clean, comfortable room. The bathroom was large, and had a really nice, cool lighted mirror. The bathroom even had towel racks, which most mid-range places seem to have eliminated. The hotel has a large, indoor atrium with a pool, which we did not take advantage of. The free breakfast was above-average, with lots of options. The only two small negatives. The mattresses had what seemed like plastic protector, which made noise when you moved in bed and made the bed hot. Also, the shower curtain did not extend the entire length of the shower.
You can tell this location has had recently remodeled rooms. Very comfortable and very clean with a nice breakfast experience. The bar had a nice selection of local and national beers on tap. For the price, you likely cannot beat this hotel experience in Dubuque.
I would recommend this BW because all of the employees were professional and made our family stay of 50 enjoyable. We also used a meeting room with full dinner and bar and again exceptional service. We have had family functions such as this many times at various locations but I will only use this location. From the reservations, check in,catering, accommodations and billing was flawless. This is the first time that I have made a recommendation on this site because it was GREAT!!!
Rooms very clean .beds are comfortable. Appears to be recently remodeled and upgraded. Resturant and bar in HOTEL. Domed heated swimming pool and hot tub .pool is 9 ft. Deep. Staying in extended stay room has fridge micro electric cooktop very large room. No bugs no FUNKY SMELLS
We received a better rate and whirlpool room when we arrived. They had no record of our reservation. Eric(?) was apologetic and gave us the upgrade. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was the best. Lots of improvements since our last stay.
great hotel ,clean well maintained, super service from a great staff ,if I ever go to DUBUQUE again I will stay here WE were there 3 days and the breakfast menu would very every day.the pool was large and at a comfortable temperature, and there is a large area near the pool where parents can relax .
Stayed here a couple nights during a basketball tournament. It is right on Hwy 20 near the mall and restaurants. Close to the colleges. Has an attached restaurant with bar, Champps. The included breakfast is good and is served at Champps. Beds were comfortable and TVs were good. The kids loved the pool (wasn't overly chlorinated like some places), ping pong, pool tables, arcade, etc. Only issue we encountered was the cooling unit in our room. Turned out the curtains hang over it and the thermostat is in the unit. We tied up the curtains then everything was honky dory.
A great hotel, newly remodeled. Clean and comfortable. Has a Champps restaurant and bar right in it and their food was great with a ton of cold beers on tap! Great pool and hot tub area for the kids! A great value conveniently located near everything.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and they were great about kids. We had a big group from a basketball team and they were great about letting kids have fun. The pool area is big and a great place to congregate while the kids play.
The hotel is an excellent place to spend one or several nights, relax during the day or attend a conference. The rooms are clean and crisp, the beds are great and everything in the bathroom works well. The breakfast is good and plentiful. I highly recommend this hotel.
Love this place. Clean rooms, great service, excellent breakfast, and fun things to do. We come occasionally to visit our daughter at the local university as well as take care of some business and can make a nice weekend getaway of it due to this hotel.
quick overnight stay. Great lounge area. Nice pool area and a decent workout area. Staff was exceptional. Motel was clean, but could use a few updates. No problems at all, and would definitely stay again.
I would recommend this hotel for families, the indoor pool area is ideal for kids, the rooms all surround the pool area resulting in kids running along the landing outside the room and the noise of the kids playing in the pool may annoy some people who have an early start to a long drive. The pool closed at 10pm. The A/C unit is round the corner under the window, this meant the air went up behind the curtains instead of into the room, I did like being able to open the window though.
Hotel is clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub temperatures were good. Breakfast has good selection and the Champs menu has many delicious items at a reasonable price. While the location worked well for me, it is a bit far from the downtown area but the drive is quick to enjoy the opportunities Dubuque has to offer.
Room was clean, could tell it has recently been remodeled. Nice big pool area would be great for families traveling with kids. Champs restaurant is connected had some good burgers and a nice (complementary) breakfast buffet. Would go again.
The hotel was very clean. Comfortable beds, large bathroom. Everything was spotless. The breakfast served was a buffet with eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy etc. Not the small continental meals other hotels have. The attached restaurant had amazing food. Room service came quickly. The pool is large and sunny, a great place to meet up with others. Overall, very satisfied with my stay here and well worth the money!
We stayed for one night for our daughter's college graduation. The rooms are big and clean. There is a closet and mirror/table outside of the shower and toilet area which is nice so two people can get ready at one time. The staff we came across at the front desk and in the hallways were very friendly. Parking was easy and convenient. This hotel is connected to a nice restaurant, so no need to leave the building to eat. This same restaurant is the area we went to eat our hot breakfast which was included in our stay. The breakfast was tasty and had a good variety. The beds are queen size and comfortable. Also, there is also a small refrigerator in the room. There is a large indoor swimming pool and patio area which we did not use. But looks great for families who like to swim. There is also a hot tub in the same area. On the indoor patio there are many tables with chairs so one could bring in food into the area while watching their kids swim. Overall this is an excellent hotel. I would highly recommend it when staying in wonderful Dubuque!
It is an updated Hotel. The Best Western plus of Dubuque, Iowa has been recently updated and remodeled. The room had new bed linen, furniture, TV, and a door security system. Free Breakfast Bar was available for Hotel guest in the attached restaurant. Indoor pool was clean. Very Friendly staff members.
Very pleased with the hotel and the breakfast menu. Atrium area and pool were a little chilly. In all fairness, it was a cloudy day but looked forward to relaxing around the pool in some warm weather. Really enjoyed the Mississippi River Museum. That is worth a visit and you get to pet the Sting Rays!
We were traveling with our two dogs and appreacited the reasonable dog fee that the hotel charged. After traveling most of the day it was nice to have an onsite restaurant that had great food. The staff were all very friendly and willing to assist us with anything we needed. All areas of the hotel were clean and well maintained. Our room was clean and comfortable. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. I would stay at this hotel again anytime I am in the area.
We stayed during a baseball tournament. Front desk was very friendly, allowing us to check in early so make the start of our weekend a smooth one. Staff was friendly and helpful! We will stay again when we are back in town.
My husband and I typically stay in resorts across United States and in the Caribbean Hawaii. This hotel was very nice looking beautiful room beautiful lobby great staff. The breakfast was awesome. Highly recommend this place above all others.
It was our first get away of the Year Came here for the Easter brunch spent 4 Days exploring the area along the Mississippi Dubuque is what I would call A collage town . Easter Brunch was fantastic There A two Casinos in town if that is your thing , several museums A lock and Dam with viewing tower Also A wonderful park Eagle Point
Great location..good food..lovely pool lots of room for the kids to play. One thought would be to add additional games in the arcade although they had no problem spending $20 there. Love this location for kids!
Place was very well maintained. Only complaint was loose little rocks that had come up out of the pool area floor were sore to walk on. Otherwise everything was great. Breakfast buffet was awesome and some of the free amenities were great. Free pool table and ping ping tables were awesome.
Service was great. Pool area really interesting. Uncomfortable with people putting infants and little ones in whirlpool so wish they had posted rules but there is no iq check to be a parent. Place was older and located by cemetary and mobile home park. Room very clean and well appointed. They have put some serious money into upkeep and it shows. Nice property!
I stay here often as my son goes to Loras College in Dubuque. It is always very clean and the staff is very friendly. The hot breakfast is a perk and the Champs connected to it makes it very convenient.
What a gem of a hotel and a great value. Our room was clean, roomy, updated, comfy bed, large clean bathroom and pet friendly. The breakfast was excellent. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel that has great food and cocktails. No need to worry about having a drink and driving. Only complaint are the people that do not pick up after their dogs. This is your job people not the hotels.
We had a wonderful time- our mini vacation was complete. The service was excellent and pool area was wonderful. Breakfast was very nice in a sit down atmosphere. Were very pleased with our stay and we will be going back again!
I recommended this Hotel as a member of Best Western rewards club to some friends for all of us to meet at. I have stayed here twice previously with no problems. My friends requested an early check in 1pm....they were unable to get into their room until 5:45pm. Way past the check in time of 3 pm. They were repeatedly told it will be ready in 30 minutes. We had group dinner reservations for 6pm. So they got ready in my room. Which left us with no towels. requested more towels from front desk. On the way to room after our evening out in Dubuque, I stopped to ask if the towels had been delivered or could we take some up. I was informed that they were in my room. NOT!!! when I called down to front desk was informed there was nobody to bring them up, I would have to come get them myself! Well DUH, this is why I asked about them in the first place on the way up. Staff does not know what they are talking about! They apologize but cannot help you! Unless you bringing kids over the age of 4 to swim don't think you will enjoy the pool area on a weekend. This hotel offers pool parties for NONGUESTS!! Also found out while there other guests were offered Pizza and soda with the room for lesser price. So being a rewards member does not count for ANYTHING!
What a great property this is. First time staying here and we will be back. Service is awesome and the pool area is very nice. Grandchildren loved it. Breakfast provided was a nice surprise and offered great selections. Very clean and comfortable rooms.
I stayed at the Dubuque Best Western while attending DOCK DOGS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS..with my dog....Friendly staff, Clean facility..I used the Hot Tub, Laundry, resteraunt, great meals..try the ribeye & the hot fudge sunday..lots of grass area for your pet..quiet rooms...very close to all businesses..
Near all resteraunts and shopping. Very clean. We stayed on the 3rd floor. Very quiet.away from the pool. Pool area is in the middle of the hotel so when we stayed on the second floor last time it was quite noisy. But we made sure we stayed on the 3rd floor and were very happy. Free buffet breakfest.scramled eggs, sausage, corn beef hash, potatoes, French toast and pastries. Very nice and friendly staff. Cleaning crew worked very hard and were very friendly.we would continue to stay here when in Iowa.
I chaired a conference held at the Best Western with 150 attendees. From the onsite, the sales staff was really impressive. At my first visit, they did their homework and knew about the organization, commenting on an award that a member had just recently received. Throughout my planning, the sales staff was always quick to respond to my questions and never once made me feel like I was an inconvenience. When my registration numbers quickly exceeded my goals, the staff had solutions readily available to accommodate the number of seats needed. They were able to solve for any potential problems that came up. During the event, the entire staff was extremely accommodating, flexible and paid attention to detail! Water pitchers were always refilled quickly, food was placed out at the designated times, AV/audio questions were quickly answered, etc. Even when we got off schedule (by over an hour!) and dinner was later than planned, the Best Western staff did not flinch. They just said to let them know when we were ready….and the dinner was still warm and delicious! They flipped the room setup from our sessions throughout the day and was ready for a banquet dinner in under 30 minutes! AMAZING! Especially compared to other places that would have required a minimum of 1 hour! Attendees told me this was the best conference they've attended for our organization in 25-30 years. The Best Western played a large role in the success of this conference! If you are considering the Best Western for any event, check them out! You won't regret it!
All the activities and services were good. With the banquet being close to Champs, the noise from the bar was very audible. Other than that, the service and facility was good. I have been to many hotels and motels in my work travels and conference travels. They have been at all price ranges for the different facilities. I have stayed at this Best Western over 30 years ago. It has been upgraded very nicely.
I enjoyed my stay at this Best Western. The staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. The room was excellent overall, and breakfast offered many choices. They were accommodating to my mobility issues and parking was very accessible to my room, for which I'm very grateful.
If you travel with a dog, this is a great place to stay (if not - still a great place) Staff all went out of their way to help. Great yard to exercise the dog and waste stations provided. Rooms were neat, clean and quiet. A good breakfast with variety included. Easy access and in a good location.
We spent one night at this hotel. The lobby is very attractive and remodeled. All the rooms surround an atrium that contains a pool and gathering area. That area, unfortunately, has not been remodeled. Bright yellow and orange paint and chairs and tables add to a very tacky appearance. The pool itself is fine. There is a pool table that we didn't use and two ping pong tables. The ping pong balls were strangely flat and unbouncy. Kind of annoying for a hotel to supply ping pong tables but not operable ping pong balls. The room was also ok. Clean and adequate but nothing special. We were only provided with three towels for four people. The noise from the hallway and pool was noticeable at around 10 pm. The breakfast at the adjacent hotel was good--better quality that most hotel breakfasts. The breakfast was a definite highlight. Overall I was underwhelmed and would not stay here again, but it was adequate and clean.
We visited this hotel with our 3 children and everything was fine during the day, the rooms were comfortable and clean but the problems all started after the sun went down. The pool is open until 11:00 at night and having a poolside room it was constant shrieks and noise until 10:30 in the evening. It was so loud the children could not sleep and staff were unwilling or unable to help. The poolside rooms should come with a warning and ear plugs. If you have young children or need to sleep definitely think twice before booking and insist on a room away from the pool area as a minimum.
Was on a business trip and stayed at the Best Western Plus Dubuque. This was a very large hotel. My room was located towards the back of one of the buildings. Nice room, however, there also was construction workers doing work in the halls and rooms. No real complaint other than dust from the construction. Note to Manager and Front Desk, don't give guests rooms where work is being done at your hotel. Still a nice stay and free breakfast at Champps was good.
The Best Western Plus Dubuque was a pretty cool "retro" hotel. It kinda reminded me of the old Holiday Inn Holidome properties. The room was larger than a conventional room. The breakfast buffet at Champps Americana (in the hotel) was free and one of the better ones I've had in a while. The pool when I stayed wasn't too crowded. The pool is a lot larger than most of the newer hotels. This would be a nice place to take your kids for a fun getaway. The staff were very helpful to me with some things I needed to fax out to my office. The floor I was on (3rd floor) was being painted when I stayed. Again, an older hotel, but well maintained and very nice. Location was also very nice to just about anything in Dubuque. I drove up to the Botanical gardens and it was about a 5 min drive. It was only like 7 or 8 minutes from Eagle Point park as well.
Thanks for a great stay at an excellent hotel with a great breakfast indoor pool and clean, large comfortable rooms. We couldn't ask for a better place to stay for our group. The hot breakfast had many items available every day including hash, eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, potatoes and pancakes which they rotated each day. Also on the breakfast was fruit, yogurt, cereal, many different beverages and rolls. The indoor pool and hot tub were a relaxing place to go to unwind. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and the beds were very nice. We seen many friendly employees who went out of their way to help us with our needs. Also a great work crew were remodeling the interior stairways and hallways keeping the hotel up to date.
This was a great place stay. The first room they gave us was right by the pool and it was quite noisy. They gladly gave us a new room on the 2nd floor that was away from the noise. It had a double queen bed and was cheaper than the initial room.
This was a great hotel for our entire family including our dog. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and our meals in the restaurant as well. The pool area was also very nice. The only thing we didn't care for was the bed.
Met our expectations and is pet friendly. The staff was excellent and with a great location to downtown. The folks were very friendly and Champs restaurant connected was great, also provide the breakfast,(included).
On preparing to travel to Dubuque for a brief vacation, we found that most of the reasonably priced hotels were booked. In the past, we've stayed at the Hilton Garden next to the Mystique Casino but there was not much value when you considered the rates were over $150 a night. So we called Best Western and it had vacancies and was very reasonably priced. The highlight was the free breakfast buffet at the restaurant adjacent the hotel. Full buffet with delicious pastries, sausage, eggs, hash, biscuits and gravy, fruit, pancakes, coffee, juice and more. The hotel has some unique amenities we loved including a pool table, ping pong tables, table hockey and other games. Our room was very nice. The only downside was the bathtub was clogged, which they eventually fixed, the room smelled like stale floral spray, the television screen was too dark and the bathroom fan didn't clear out the bathroom odors well. But the price was right and the staff very helpful. We definitely will stay here again.
Loved the hotel. It is perfect for a family, lots to do. The pool area was very clean and well kept. The game room was nice as well. The hotel is under some minor construction but they do a good job of keeping it out of your way.
We stayed Labor Day night. We paid just under $100 for the room, not including tax. Hotel was nice enough. They had a hot tub that we enjoyed after a long day of riding our Goldwing. Room nice, nothing special. Breakfast was a disappointment though. Breakfast had cold powdered eggs, cold home fried potatoes, cold breakfast meats. They did have flavored coffee "sugars", and that was nice. We did arrive for breakfast about 30 min. before they closed, but they still should have had at least warm food. They were very accommodating with parking for our Goldwing, suggesting a safe place to park. We probably would stay again--just making sure to get to breakfast earlier to hopefully the food would be warmer.
Very clean and extremely helpful staff. Hubby and I are here while he's working in town. I'm stuck here without a car while he's working. Or so I thought! They have a free shuttle that will take me to and from anyplace I want to go in town! Now that's service! The breakfast buffet in the mornings is really good with a lot of options. :) We are in a suite and it's beyond perfect :)
Driving up to the hotel, we were impressed that Champs restaurant was attached to the property. An attached restaurant makes the first night dinner easy as the days itinerary unfolds. Hotel staff were robotic upon arrival. No personality in explaining the hotel. The hotel itself was clean and undergoing renovations. The pool area closed weekdays at 10 pm.. Too early. The breakfast was excellent as well as the server, Chris, who personally made us pancakes which were not featured on our check out day. The problem with this site, however, was not realizing how pet friendly this hotel was. Ironically, our next room guests-our last night, had dogs-barking dogs. Although we were on the remote end of the "not full" hotel, we were not told were we were on pet friendly floor. We had no pets. Our dogs were at home! Too bad, pet owners are not clustered together or that we are made aware of this at check in. What if we had allergies, etc, besides the noise issue. Ironically, these guests had a quiet tag on their doors. Really??? Best Western you should inform guests of the pet friendly clause and not at departure when we brought this to their attention!!
We had to travel to Dubuque for a funeral and, with not enough room at the house, we looked for a hotel for a few of us to stay. I'm glad we found the Best Western. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the room had all the things we needed for our stay: iron, blow dryer, coffee, etc. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because we only had 3 bath towels in a room that sleeps 4 and the carpet in the corner was really dusty. I must mention that the front desk people were FANTASTIC! Very friendly and helpful.
Our family stayed over the Labor Day Weekend so we could have a nice long weekend in Dubuque. We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The rooms were in good condition, I feel any hotel room could always be cleaned better. Our room had Fruit Loops under the lip of the bed, the carpet was dirty in corners, and the bathroom floor needed mopped. But overall we had a great experience.
We spent one night at the Best Western Plus (the Sunday of Labor Day weekend). This hotel is a good, solid choice if you aren't too picky about décor. It's quite outdated, all except the lobby, which looks recently updated. However, the lobby looks seriously out of place with the rest of the hotel. The pool area, despite the orange color scheme going on, looked nice. We did not swim because it was so crowded and busy. A few parties/gatherings were going on (at least one child's birthday party), so lots of kids running around and adults sitting around. The pool area was extremely loud, and I was so glad we did not have a pool side room. Do not book one of those unless you don't mind noise! Our room was in a wing further back, very clean, and very quiet even with the family with several little ones next door. This hotel seems to appeal to families with young children. We did enjoy the game room, with air hockey table. There were also a few arcade games. The room is right off the pool area, which would make it easy for parents to keep their eyes on the kiddos in the game room while sitting in the pool area. We enjoyed dinner, and then the breakfast at Champps, which is hooked on to the hotel. The breakfast was included in the room rate, and had items such as pancakes, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, sausages, eggs.
Perfect place to host mother's 90th birthday party. Easy access for guests, convenient parking, accommodating event planner Diana Schulz, great staff, good food and great party that Mom hasn't stopped raving about. Hold your Dubuque event here, you can't go wrong, and all at a reasonable price. Diana Schulz was great to work with and she and her staff made the birthday dinner luncheon and celebration one to remember. Best site in DBQ for your event.
Booked at a $79 a night price so, based on the lower rate, the quality was good. The last night, the room next door must have been booked because we heard a lot of noise that night and the next morning-voices, alarm clocks, people getting ready to go, etc. The room was clean and the maid service was good. TV reception could have been better. Pool smaller than expected but still nice. Hot tub wasn't always working.
We stayed here the night before our daughter's move in day to Loras. It was very convenient and near many stores. We enjoyed Champ's restaurant attached to hotel. We also were able to use the pool before checking out. The room was clean and beds were comfortable.
I stayed at this hotel and it was very reasonably priced. There's a restaurant within the hotel. The room I had was located on the second floor overlooking the pool. The way the hotel is setup, if you enter through the front, you have to walk through the pool and up the stairs to get to the room. Or you can drive around and park in the back area and enter through a side door. In any case, really odd set-up. But it was clean and inexpensive and offered free breakfast (with my particular reservation) in the restaurant.
Great place to stay. We plan on going back to Dubuque and will stay at the Best Western Plus Hotel & Conference Center again. Nice location everything you need is at this location. Staff were very helpful and polite.
Nice clean hotel. Staff was great and accommodating. The Pool and hot tub was everyone's favorite. The pool is shallow on one end but goes 9 ft on the other. Kids got a kick out of jumping in and trying to touch the bottom. They have a pool table and two ping pong tables just outside the pool area. Game room as well. Free breakfast always a must! This one was at the connecting restaurant Champs. Breakfast included fresh fruit, corn beef hash, French toast, potatoes and eggs plus there was more. I would definitely Recommend this place to others.
Hotel is very nice; clean well kept up. First time checking in asked to move to the pool area. Were told no we were not put by the pool yet were as far away as possible. Did not check in did rescue business; returning we asked one more time for a room by the pool we were told no king beds by pool which was fine we made the change. Nice if the first time they explained and not just brushed off as no. Hotel breakfast is tasty and very well staffed. Right in Champs next door who have outstanding food. We visited there the night before for a cocktail and food. Great service; orders were taken well and correct on service. Pool area is nice with tables and chairs, a ping pong table and a TV. Nice clean and welcoming. Great hotel room nice size and very clean.
Hotel is deceiving as it appears to be only 2 stories, but there is another area of rooms around the back. It was clean, although a bit dated. The buffet breakfast was served @ Champps and it was wonderful: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bagels, sausage, fruit, cinnamon rolls, cereals, oatmeal and more. It was well tended by the morning chef. The hotel was a good value for the price. The rooms in the rear were very quiet.
Nice affordable place to stay in Dubuque. Awesome continental breakfast. Nice pooll area and rooms. Excellent service, shuttle to anywhere in Dubuque. Highly recommended have stayed here multiple times for overnight events
As others have said, this is an older hotel that has been remodeled. Our room was reminiscent of older motel design, but it was clean and met basic needs. The pool is inside and if your room is on it, it is very noisy. Sound is magnified around the water. Breakfast was good. I would not stay here again because of the noise.
This was a very nice facility with clean attractive rooms. It has an attached restaurant attached called Champps. We got a coupon to eat breakfast in the restaurant as opposed to stuff put out in the lobby, and it was excellent. There is an atrium lobby area with all kinds of fun stuff for families to do like a pool, ping pong tables, and other gathering places. We saw several families in this area playing cards the night we were there. There is easy access into downtown Dubuque from this location. It was also pet friendly. We will return here when in Dubuque again!
This BW Plus is a remodeled motor inn where they have spent a lot of money. There are two main hotel buildings with a connecting passageway. The large pool area is a main attraction in the city and makes the property a favorite with families with children. There is also a convention center with meeting room facilities, and an attached restaurant (Chammps) where free breakfast buffet is served. Overall the property is a good mid class hotel although we felt it was a little pricey considering national averages. Our room could have been a bit cleaner but it was basically suitable. Front desk staff were knowledgeable and courteous. Maintenance staff was on the job immediately when repair needs were mentioned. The hotel was very popular and had nearly 100% occupancy on the first night that we stayed.
My company has been holding business meeting at Best Western Plus Dubuque for the over 5 years. They are very accommodating to any special needs we have, staff always friendly. Would recommend Best Western Plus Dubuque for any business meetings.
always a good buy & clean difference between hotel owned by a chain or being owned by an independent Best western owners have a high standard they have to maintain to keep this name on the front of their hotel
We stayed only one night, but took full advantage of the indoor pool. We were travelling cross-country with our dog, and they were happy to welcome him as well. Great location right on Highway 20, yet, night time sleeping was quiet and comfortable.
We visited Dubuque and stayed one night in the motel. The check in was pretty easy. Their room keys are the kind you just touch the lock with and that was great. Our room was nice enough. The motel is a little older but still OK. The less than best part was there was a bunch of kids there I assume for sports tournaments. So, the pool and hot tub were full. We had wanted to use the hot but gave that up and it was no big deal to us. We did hear one kid, one time, run down the hall but, otherwise, it was very quiet. Considering all the families that were there, that was a nice surprise. The motel is attached to a restaurant. We had a desert there before going to bed and it was great. The next morning the breakfast was among the best we have had at a motel. It is at the restaurant. They give you a card to turn in when you get to there and then it is just eat all you want. Check out was pretty simple as well. They ask you to put the keys into a box that is by most of the exits. Unfortunately, it was not by our door so we just dropped it off at the office on the way out. During the night they had left us our bill and a paper outside our door. So, overall, I felt it was a nice motel for a good price. We would definitely look at staying there again if we needed to.
I know curb appeal is important, but it is also important that the air/heating system works properly. The systems were old (20 plus). The carpet looked old in the room area and halls. The lobby and restaurant looked great and updated. I stay at hotels because of rooms, not the curb appeal. Also it doesn't accommodate a family of 6. You need to have 2 rooms, though they do have ajoinging rooms which is great.
Pool was large sized & deep enough to do laps. Hotel is very handicapped friendly, with level entrances, elevators, & power assist exterior doors. Rooms were large, beds comfortable, & facilities were well maintained. Rooms were quiet, despite the heavily traveled roadway out front. Exercise equipment was good quality, but the elliptical my husband used, did need a bit of maintenance. Access was a bit tricky, due to the heavy volume of traffic. & the direction from which we came.
Nice, clean hotel. Staff is friendly. Nice Jacuzzi. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast was okay, but not exceptional. Our room was just off the pool area, and it was quiet after 10 pm, when we went to bed. We would stay there again.
Loved this place. Very nice and deep pool. They also had ping pong tables and other recreational options. Good commercial grade exercise equipment too! Excellent breakfast. Clean and quiet rooms. No complaints.
Clean, quiet, room with great jacuzzi and pool area. We were there on a weekday so we had the whirlpool to ourselves. Pretty good large breakfast buffet next door at Champp's included. Close to shopping.
Hotel is clean and all staff friendly. All the plug ins in the hallways make you wonder what they are trying to cover up. Beds are comfortable but the pillows are not comfortable at all. Went and purchased my own pillow for our stay.
We had a pool party for family and friends here on Sunday. This hotel staff was so easy to work with and everything went as planned. The area around the pool has tables and the pool was very inviting. We ordered pizza from the hotel and it was excellent. We also bought pitchers of pop and ordered more as we needed it. Highly recommend this venue for any parties.
I was looking for a reasonably priced facility to spend just one passing night on our long journey. This facility turned out to be an unexpected gem! Very nice inside and out. Great price. Comfortable, good sized room and bath. Nice pool for the kids too!
Hotel is very nice, located near mall, and restaurants. Has a good hot breakfast, good workout facilities, and large pool, and hot tub. There is also game room and ping pong tables, so really good for kids. The rooms were very clean, and staff extremely nice. I stayed in a room with king size bed, and it was really firm, and I am used to a pillow top, so it was uncomfortable for me. I loved the hidden refrigerator and microwave.
Room was adjoined to my brother's room. We had not seen each others family for 8 years. Staff was amazing, both day and night staff. Worked out every morning and the fitness center was always clean and stocked with towels. Champs restaurant was amazing.
We had a great night at this Best Western. I made a mistake in the reservations, and they worked it out for me. Nice rooms, nice amenities and service. We were near many restaurants and the river area is not far away. That have a great pool area too. We would stay here again.
This place has been totally updated with clean comfortable rooms. I would recommend this location as it has so many things to offer. Nice restaurant and big swimming and rec area for kids. Beds are comfortable ! Nice updates !
The hotel was used for a large bicycle tour group. The hotel is clean. The amenities are very nice. The service was excellent. The hotel went out of their way by serving an earlier breakfast due to a large number leaving early on bike tour.
We came into Dubuque for a large baseball tournament. This hotel was AWESOME! The central pool/entertainment area was great for the kids to play/hangout and families to socialize. The hotel was clean and well stocked, staff was amazingly accommodating, and the breakfast was delicious:) Our group highly recommends this hotel.
Over the years I've stayed in many Best Western Hotels, this was hands down my favorite. Our room had an unusual layout. The breakfast was not your everyday hotel breakfast, it was much better. I highly recommend it, would definitely go back if in Dubuque again.
Stayed over the weekend for a wedding. Very nice rooms and great help at the front desk. First time in Dubuque, and this hotel is in a good location with easy access to the area. Has all the amenities needed for a short stay!
Hotel was very nice with good morning buffet and in-room internet. my only complaint is that there is a feeling of humidity possibly due to the indoor pool area. However, overall it a very nice hotel.
Got a Veterans discount which was a nice surprise. Pleasant front staff, even called our room to see if all was okay. Good hot breakfast buffet. Have stayed before, and will stay again. Champs restaurant is onsite also.
People at check in were very friendly and accommodating. My room was in the main building on the first floor. The main building has two floors and is enclosed so that the pool and hot tub and leisure area can be used year round. The service was excellent. Only problem was when 3 little league teams checked in and all used the pool. Lots of noise but pool closed to children at 10. Great atmosphere-area to have a drink or food. One breakfast was catered in that area. A game room for children with fooz ball table and a work out center. Adjoining restaurant with all you can eat breakfast-also had nice bar. If I find yself in Dubuque again, I would stay here.
Good: Nice swimming pool and recreation area, free breakfast buffet has a nice selection and is pretty tasty, nice accessible location. Bad: Room was dirty on arrival. Pile of potato chips in the corner of the room in plain view. Toilet backed up after one flush due to housekeeping putting bar of soap down the toilet. Front desk staff was rude at check out after we asked a few questions about the bill. My family has stayed here numerous times over the last couple years and this was the worst experience we have had. When in Dubuque, this was the only hotel we stayed at. Our next trip here we will most definitely be looking into other hotels. Really bummed because we always enjoyed staying here.
Have stayed here multiple times over the years. Always a great experience. Champps is awesome too! Food was incredible. Pool area and hot tub are great as always. Will definitely stay again when in the area.
A stranger came in to my room after they were given a key that opened my door. Luckily I was able to slam the door in their face and call the front desk. The front desk issued me a new room key. I questioned my safety after that.
The pool and game room are great. Having a Champs restaurant on site makes dinner easy if the weather is bad. The morning breakfast buffet is the best complimentary buffet of any of the places I've stayed. The staff is courteous an helpful. Special pricing is available if you are visiting your son or daughter who attends college In Dubuque. It is close to the Kennedy Mall and a short distance from downtown Dubuque. This is my go to hotel when visiting Dubuque.
This is an older hotel but very well cared for and maintained. The staff were all wonderful. We would stay here again. The hot breakfast buffet was great, although the only fresh fruit was apples, bananas and oranges. We didn't use the pool area but it was very impressive.
Hotel is very clean and very nice. Staff was incredibly helpful when I locked myself out not once, but twice. Pool and spa were clean, Chammps was excellent food. Their Mango Margaritas were to die for! Breakfast Buffet had a great variety of choices! Beds are super comfortable and rooms are spacious. My only complaint was when I went to place my clothes in the tv cabinet/dresser the drawer smelt a little weird as I opened it so I just hung them instead.
Great place to rest. I will was not on business and could have enjoyed the stay more. Everything was done very well and the location is convenient. My kids would have loved the indoor pool and game area.
The room was ok, bed and pillows could have been more comfortable. The pool was a bit chilly but since there were 2 other people in there I guess I can understand how they would want to save money. Would've been nice to have a poolside room since the hotel was not full. The free breakfast was definitely the best part! Lots to choose from: pancakes, sausage, corned beef hash, eggs, potatoes, muffins, etc.
Lots of amenities, clean room, great pool area.....attentive staff. The hotel is connected to a Champps restaurant which was convenient and where the breakfast buffet was served. Champps was a bit spendy but huge portions (don't need that much food) and very good. The price was right too. We really enjoyed our stay.
Asked for and got adjoining rooms on an upper level floor. Room was comfortable and seemed very spacious. Pool and atrium area were very clean and we enjoyed playing in pool twice. Staff were very friendly in all areas. We will stay here again when in the area.
Stayed at this hotel because they have a special rate for visitors to Loras College. It is a nice hotel, with a nice size swimming. The restaurant is good. Stayed in a room right by the pool but there were not many guests that night so it was quiet. If during a busy time, you may want to request a room looking out rather than to the pool- although these rooms are great for families. Hotel was super clean and staff very friendly. I will definitely stay here again.
We stayed here while visiting our niece a student at Loras college. We had a large room 2 queens, bed very clean and comfortable. Daily newspaper provided. If you prefer quiet, ask for a room away from the pool area. Pool is in a center domed area and is loud. People are allowed to be in there until 11 pm, but then it immediately quieted down. Breakfast buffet provided at the attached Champps restaurant was good.
All of the staff were incredibly accommodating for a very special stay. They were able to get us into our rooms early which was greatly appreciated. They were also very accommodating with a large group of family who came to see us at the hotel. Very clean and well functioning rooms. Great service. Would stay again.
The staff was totally awesome to our needs. The pool are was great, loved the dome effect. The attached restaurant/lounge Champps was a great place to eat and relax. We will be back... The Morning Breakfast Was Very Good
We stay at this motel every time we come to Dubuque. Our room is always clean and comfortable and the staff in the motel and restaurant are always friendly and helpful. My grandchildren love the pool and the poolside area.
Hotel was something typical that you would see for a Best Western. Staff was friendly. Hotel was clean. Bed was ok. Room had a fridge, microwave and free Wi-Fi. Pool was super crowded last night for being a Wednesday with a lot of adults sitting poolside. They have ping pong tables and also a pool table. Champs is a restaurant that is connected to the hotel. They do have a great beer and wine selection. Dinner was subpar for being a burger and nachos. Breakfast is here in the morning. It was a buffet and it has a good selection. The staff was nice. Please bring cash to tip.
My family of six stayed for one night. This is our third time staying here. Nothing fancy but this hotel is clean and well managed. Staff is always helpful and accommodating. Pool area is huge with large pool, hot tub, ping pong tables, pool table, a pavilion and plenty of tables and seating. Also has a small arcade room off the pool area. Great place for family with kids who like to swim. Many rooms right off the pool are convenient for families. The hotel is connected to a Chammps restaurant. The free buffet included with room is decent but not spectacular. (It used to be much better) The location is right off Hwy 20 (Dodge St) about 5 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes to west end shopping and Asbury. Call hotel directly to book as you can usually get a better rate then online especially midweek.
We held our daughters wedding reception here this past month. Most of our family & friends were from out of town & state. The ballroom was perfect. The staff was wonderful to deal with (special thanks to Diane Shultz) & were very professional & efficient in serving. We received many good comments from our guests that this hotel was perfect for our special occasion. Highly recommend this hotel for wedding receptions.
Hotel was awesome. Very clean. Pool, Hot tub, and games were great to. Had a really nice time. We stayed in a room away from the pool on the 3rd floor and were glad we did it can get noisy around the pool area. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Very happy with our stay.
Very nice hotel. Room was modern. Beds were very comfortable. Great breakfast included. My only recommendation would be to ask for a room away from the pool because at night it was very noisy until at least 10 pm.
Had to help my college student following a fire in his dorm. BWP staff provided us lots of extra towels & hair dryer to dry out electronics & were extremely helpful. Also provided us with complimentary breakfast vouchers & free drink coupons at attached restaurant (which is overpriced, but that's a different story). Hotel staff was great!
Had a GREAT night's sleep! Everything was clean and absolutely no problems during our weekend stay! Staff was very accommodating, even on a very busy weekend. Complimentary breakfast was great, even right up to the stopping time of 10:30 all food was still hot and fresh!
over all a very clean hotel with great food. Stayed for business but would be a great hotel for family fun with the center hotel pool and game rooms. was worried the noise would be a factor but never had any noise disturbance from the all the parties in lower level. Easy access to most of Dubuque's business.
Perfect hotel for this function. Outstanding hotel and location, Restaurant and bar were great. When traveling in this area with Family, I will always stay here. The quality of staff friendliness and attentiveness , i.
Was very disappointed with the room. The hotel was nice, but my room had a musty smell and the sheets and comforter was stained. I noticed it the next morning. Very disappointed with that. The room could have been cleaned better. You can tell it was a rush job. I chose this hotel because I just stayed at the Best Western Plus in Missouri and it was great. This was not worth the money. Pretty pricey.
Love this hotel!! Rooms are awesome from the décor to the comfort of the beds! Breakfast is always amazing! All of the employees are very accommodating. Having a restaurant and lounge attached is so convenient. The pool area was enjoyed by my family as well.
The rooms was nice and clean, the price was reasonable. the breakfast was good and the wifi speed was really good. the bed was comfortable and was a nice and quite night. They accept corp. lodging card that cut the cost considerably.
This was my third trip to Dubuqe and I stayed at another Hotel on my first two trips. I tried to book that hotel again but they had raised their rates quite significantly. I found this Hotel at a much more affordable rate. Because of the good rates, free breakfast, huge pool area with ping pong tables and very friendly and efficient staff I will be staying there on all my future trips to Dubuque.
Great hotel for families with children. Pool area has table tennis, pool table. Bright, open inviting area. Having Champs Restaurant attached to the hotel makes it very convenient. No need to leave if you don't want to.
While this location is quite outdated (in the room) the quality of my stay was fantastic. I would definitely stay again. The bed was AWESOME. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere is fun and family friendly. Although I was there on business I was in no way disturbed by the fun going on around me.
The free breakfast here cannot be beat. Eggs, sausage, potatoes, even biscuits with sausage gravy! The hot buffet was included with our room and was outstanding. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. We had a very nice 2 day stay.
I made contact with Zach at the Best Western in Dubuque with a special request. My wife and I have stayed here many times and we were in need of an extended stay option. After sharing my concerns with Zach (who was and is always very helpful) took my info and consulted with upper management (Stacy) and called me back the next day to offer my wife a GREAT room with an absolutely phenomenal offer. Zach and the rest of the staff were very helpful and also being very attentive to any of my wife's needs for the room. I feel that it is because of the sheer level of professionalism and the very true feeling of helping us by listening to our needs is what has given my wife and I the peace of mind by staying at this Best Western. If you are going to be in the Dubuque area overnight and looking for a wonderful place to stay then you should stay one night to see what great customer service and true hospitality.
The first hotel of this sort that I have visited. It has a covered area in the middle with a pool, hot tub and games area which looked very impressive. The hotel itself was a little tired in the rooms. First impression was a distinct smell of smoke when we walked into the room and also in the stairwell. With popcorn ceilings and areas in need of work, its not the best. Its a Best Western in Iowa, so I wasn't expecting the world but for the money, it could do with a coat of paint. We had a comfortable few nights sleep and all staff were friendly.
Renovations are in process, and the changes are beautiful. Friendly staff, easy parking and close to casinos, restaurants, theater, the Mississippi River Aquatic Center. We need to go back in warmer time of year to experience the paddle boats, winery, etc. Hotel was quiet, beautiful room and comfy bed! The restaurant in the hotel has excellent food. Will definitely stay there again.
all the staff was very helpful and nice. The hotel was clean. The pool area was clean and kept up.. The restaurant was clean and it was busy but they got us in. The food was good and staff was helpful and friendly.
We were very impressed with this hotel. Room was clean, nice layout, grateful for the mini fridge. The staff checking us in were very friendly, giving our pups treats and poop bags, and even called once we got to the room to make sure we were happy with how we found it. Pool was nice, breakfast was outstanding. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the bed. Hands down most uncomfortable bed and pillows I have ever attempted to sleep on. But I would still come back next time we have a hockey tourney. :)
The swimming, lounge area is great for our family and the buffet breakfast has something everyone will eat! We prefer this hotel over any other in the Dubuque area. As to be expected, the pool side rooms are noisy, if you want a quieter room, choose a non-pool side room.
We stayed with our children and met friends, very kid friendly and clean. Dinning on site is very good, as well as with in a short drive of too many other choices to list. Will be staying again if we go back to the area.
REALLY enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Great room, bed and amenities. Very comfortable place to stay. The pool and pool lounge area are very nice (but expect kids!) The attached Champs bar is a great place to catch your favorite sports team and get some great grub.
This hotel is consistently pleasant. It is clean, comfortable and has great amenities. Fantastic hot breakfast. While there are many nice hotels in Dubuque, I prefer this hotel over all others in Dubuque. With the pool and atrium, it is a happening place!
We went to the hotel because they advertised a family new year's eve party. We arrived in the afternoon but all the tables and chairs were taken by people already there. They had grouped together the tables and put all of their things and food on them so no one else could use them. The pool area was full of people and all their things. There was no place to dry or sit down. The pool was packed and it was impossible to use the hot tub because there was absolutely no available space. Our family had to go to the YMCA. To top it off, the champagne toast was grape juice. When we complained at the front desk we were told it is always like this on new year's eve. When we booked the room we asked if the pool would be crowded but we were only told that only hotel guests would be able to use the pool. If we had been told how crowded things usually are, we would not have booked the room.
The pool area is an atrium, which is a nice gathering place if travelling with others. Only complaint was cold breakfast buffet and watered down milk/juice due to ice being right in it. Friendly staff otherwise. Diamond Jo shuttle will come get you.
Places was a good stay. Ive stayed in lots of bestwesterns and this one by far exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly for the most part, and the attached restaurant was a definite plus. Will definitely be staying here again in the future.
This hotel is quite nice. It has all the amenities we want when we travel and it is more than hospitable for our dogs. There are great outdoor spaces for the dogs and the rooms are spacious and well taken care of. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. We also like having a full restaurant onsite as well as laundry facilities. We will stay here again.
Terrific place to stay in Dubuque.Professional, polite staff, nicely remodeled decor throughout - and an above average restaurant and bar attached helped to make for a nice weekend away. Mints on the pillows, a shower that ACTUALLY had terrific water pressure (so incredibly rare at a hotel) comfy bed and a CLEAN room (and I'm fussy) all great. The complimentary breakfast buffet (served in the attached restaurant) is head and shoulders above standard hotel breakfast offerings. Really pleased - and will certainly stay there again.
I have been staying at this Best Western for 25 years now. It was a convenience thing years ago and close to my business I had in town when here. About 10-12 years ago they totally started to redo much of the motel. They added a Champs Sports Bar onto the Motel and this property has really taken off. It is one of the three best properties I stay at in Iowa when on business. The rooms are large and comfortable and everything you want is right here and no need to dive out to eat, workout or even swim, it is all right here. Congratulations to this management teams and works as they make one stay a pleasure!
This is one of the cleanest places I have stayed all year. Great breakfast and friendly people. The size of the rooms are the best feature of the hotel. The WiFi is very fast and stable. Traffic leaving the hotel is a little rough but manageable.
It was the 1st time staying at Best Western and we enjoyed it very much. The people were very nice and helpful. The place and rooms were very clean and actually enjoyed the beds. We found it's location helpful and close to everything. The breakfasts each morning were Great and tasty! Thank you all!
Staff from front desk to housekeeping all were friendly and very helpful with any needs during our stay. We enjoyed Champs for breakfast and other meals during our stay and found the quality and service was excellent there as well. We will be back.
The property was busy, but the staff was very cordial and helpful. We requested a handicapped room, which we received. It did not, however, have a shower fitted for handicapped visitors. We did talk with the staff the next day and learned this facility does have such rooms, but they were occupied when we arrived. The room was clean, quiet and easily accessible. The room amenities were excellent.
We spend a third of the year in hotels on business. My husband had to take the 8am shuttle to the airport. At check-in, the lady offered him a choice of 3 breakfast items to be ready for him at 5am!!! We have NEVER experienced anything like this before!!! What a greta way to treat business people!!! And it was also a very nice hotel at an amazing price!
We could not get a hotel in Galena and stayed in Dubuque. We were very surprised at what a nice hotel it was and had a restaurant attached as well a complimentary breakfast buffet. We saved over $100 a night by staying here!! We will recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting the Galena/Dubuque area!!
LOVED THIS PLACE!! Breakfast was amazing, best eggs ever! Love the openness of the pool and rec area, would love to bring my family here from Illinois to check it out since they have ping pong and a dome to let natural light in.. Price was unbeatable and so was the friendliness. Loved that I didn't have to leave the hotel to go out for awesome food and local fun. Totally using Best Western over Holiday Inn from here on out.
In Dubuque for Parents weekend, enjoyed this hotel and would definitely recommend it.The food was tasty. Our room was clean and comfortable. Staff was courteous and helpful. We will stay here again next time we are in Dubuque.
This place is so big so many conference rooms. Nice size pool has game room, laundry room. The room is very big. This has to be the cleanest hotel I have stayed at in a long time from the hallway to the rooms A+. The staff was very professional. The hotel is in the same building with chapps American so u don't have to go outside to go eat. Good food. I will definitely stay here again and again
The breakfast was good. The beds are not queen size beds. I called multiple times regarding the pet policy because we were there for a wedding and they didn't give me much info until I got there. I was handed a list of rules and check in was so fast. I was handed so many things at once I felt rushed and like I had all of these rules all of a sudden and I hadn't come prepared for some of them. I found some of the staff friendly and some of them not. I don't know overall just a eh stay.
Rented 2 rooms, stayed 2 nights, for the next day the room wasn't cleaned. Wastebaskets weren't emptied, no clean towels. Beds weren't made. After touring a whole day, coming back to a messy, uncleaned room with no towels, wasn't very disheartening.
Every time I stay at Best Western they have my reservation already for me to sign. I like how they welcome me. This hotel more than always has room for me to stay, rooms are immaculate, comfortable and always there to accommodate when needed. I would highly recommend my friends to stay here.
The plan was to take a trip between 2 locations, Madison, WI and Des Moines, IA. Dubuque was the perfect location with Galena, IL just a short 20 minutes away. Best Western Plus was less that 10 minutes from Dubuque city center so this was the ideal location. The staff was pretty friendly, and polite. I was a bit annoyed that I had to come from my 2nd level room to the Champs restaurant for a wine bottle opener. I was surprised room service didn't have one on hand. The pool area was clean and well-stocked with towels. We really enjoyed this area. Check-out was pretty convenient. The breakfast was pretty average. I expected to see some different options between the 2 days so that was a little disappointing. Overall, this was a good hotel for a reasonable price.
They recently remodeled this hotel. Lobby is beautiful. Atrium/pool area nice. Room decor is nice, but dirty. Both beds had multiple hairs on the sheets. The carpets throughout are filthy and areas away from pool smell like stale cigarettes. Good location is about it.
Never had a bad stay at this property. Friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms, and the recent upgrades make it very enjoyable. I stay here for business regularly throughout the year and this is one of the better of the hotels i stay at .
Excellent facilities for my conference. Rooms were large and clean. Staff was great to deal with. Really good prices for what we had. Rooms close to our meeting rooms. Convenient to find. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
Great place to stay, quiet rooms and pleasant staff. The adjourning restaurant was very nice and easy to get to. Loved the chance to just walk down for appetizers after spending a long day driving and walking around.
I absolutely enjoyed your facility! Great location, great facility, excellent service, super great breakfast. The location of the Best Western Plus hotel in Dubuque made it absolutely easy to get to all the points of interests east, west, north and south of the hotel location. If I ever vacation in this area, this Best Western Plus Hotel will be my choice for the stay.
Visiting college to see daughter. Very close and convenient location. Will definitely stay here again. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast is very good with plenty of choices to satisfy everyone.
We checked in after 1am. Asked for 30 extra minutes on checkout. They refused. Access cards were deactivated at 12 on the button. We were parked out back which meant we could not get back in as the door to the hotel locked behind us as we loaded out our stuff. Parking lot was empty. They could have given us a few minutes and chose not to. Carpets were dirty. Bare feet = black feet. Ick.
