close to freeway, nice clean hotel, very comfortable beds, bathrooms were extremely small (cold not close door when going to bathroom) friendly staff, good breakfast selection, inconvenient trying to get out of parking lot

the room was very big, really nice and up to date. I would recomend this hotel to anyone. The price was really fair. Close to the ocean and shops, can"t beat it. The staff was friendly and helpful. I stayed in a single king room.

The room was nice. Bathroom was nice. Breakfast?? Scrambled eggs tasted starchy. Potatoes were dry. The waitress was very inattentive. Maybe she just woke up and wish she could go back to bed. However the wifi reception was good.

"A Hidden Gem"

I was looking for a Best Western near my nephew's home in Capitola, knowing I would be heading up to Berkeley the next day. I like Best Western because generally, they provide a stay worth the money. This little place was a gem. From the outside, it was easy to miss. And it had a small parking lot. So I didn't have high expectations when I checked in but the price was right. However, when I saw my room, I was floored. It was very large, well appointed and even had a Jacuzzi bathtub. On top of that, the place had a modest workout center and a four hour window for breakfast. As an added bonus, it was right at the foot of the on-ramp for highway 17, the very road I was taking the next morning. If you just want a clean, well-appointed place to stay for a night while you enjoy the things Santa Cruz has to offer, this is a very good choice.

Hotel better than expected. Room small but well decorated and clean. We were room 121b very near the road and it was very noisy indeed. Breakfast was nice and the restaurant was clean. The car park is very small indeed. Big shout out to the person who very kindly put dents in the car opening their doors, always a great start to the day

I went here with my friends and we got a quadruple room. The room was big, clean and had modern forniture. The price is reasonable and the receptionist was so kind. Breakfast was fresh and good. Advised.

Stayed here one night while passing through the area. It was clean, comfy and strangely smelled wonderful! I'm not sure what type of air freshener they use, but I wish I'd have asked. They also have a decent breakfast available in the morning. I'd stay here again.

After reading the reviews for this hotel we were a bit concerned. What a nice surprise. We had a massive room that was clean and well kept.We had no problems parking but the car park is small. Breakfast is ok your standard hotel buffet.It takes about 30 mins to walk to the pier which is a bonus as parking is very expensive. Lots of restaurants and shops close by

It was a very nice room and a nice breakfast, but It was the super nice people who really made it a great stay. The late night front desk lady was especially nice and was checking on the parking lot to ensure there would be enough spaces for everyone. Parking is vital in Santa Cruz.

Get there for a late check in - after midnight and the dinky piece of crap parking lot is FULL. Now mind you I'm exhausted and starving and a woman, so I'm super pissed off. But I'm also too tired to try and find a hotel with adequate parking. So to the street we go. You have to park like 0.5 mile away if you do that. I just wanted to eat, use the jetted tub, and sleep. The assistant was nice. The room looked fine. The tub worked. The parking is the main issue.

This place is a gem!!All the staff very friendly!!Check in,out no problem. Breakfast was great,lots of options,the breakfast attend lady was wonderful.I loved that my room #147 was in the back because they have lovely landscaping&the jasmine flowers that smelled so nice,natural air freshner.Me&my husband really liked the design&decor of the room.Fridge/microwave A+!The bed is so comfortable,pillows were great & linen was perfect!The curtains keeped the sun out.It was a quiet night. Everything in the room was very clean.I liked the the tv easily swiveled.We appreciated how lovely and smart they had done this property.They have everything!We lucked out&were so happy that we actually got to see a good amount of fireworks from the property!They were coming from behind Denny's somewhere lol.Thank you to the owners,staff & Santa Cruz it was a sweet,spontaneous & short trip but it filled our hearts & we are very thankful!See you again!

As you mentioned this hotel has a basic accommodations, one or two beds, a bathroom, a furniture with a flat screen TV, microwave and fridge, coffee maker, iron, iron boarding , hair dryer, and a clean rooms, complementary WiFi, complementary continental breakfast.. At this time of the year we have a very busy hotel, we almost sold out every day that mean we clean the rooms every day,, we wash the bedding and the towels every day and our shampoo and body wash is constantly replaced, because our guest use it. The shampoo and body wash brand is what our corporate request us to have. Every amenity at the hotel is what our corporate wants us to use, is not our choice, and I know our corporate is always updating almost all the hotel amenities. The corporate include provide to all their hotels the purchase of the items at the specific brand at the specific business. Rates are high in this area, special after Spring break, and Fridays , Saturdays and Holidays rates goes up. My boyfriend and I had a very nice stay here. The only thing that irritated me is I later found out that people have been uploading the wrong pictures to this hotel. I booked a suite thinking it had the big whirlpool tub that a guest had uploaded previously, but that was not the case. However the jet tub in our room actually fit the both of us, and our suite was very spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and overall we had a great experience here. I've uploaded the correct picture of the suite bath.

This hotel was easy access right off the highway in Santa Cruz with the ease of traveling either down to the beach or nearby areas to sight see. The hotel was clean and comfortable and we will definitely stay here again.

Some rooms have road noise. Rooms are pretty decent for the price. Stay away from the corner room that boarders Plymouth and Ocean. That will be the noisiest of rooms. Breakfast is pretty mediocre. Easy location to get to and from.

The room was very clean as was the property itself. The staff at the hotel was really nice and accommodating . They were patient when I lost one key and demagnetized another. The hot tub was nice at the end of the day. The king suite has a jacuzzi tub that was magical. I loved my stay here and can't wait to come back. Close to the beach (about a mile). Close to food and drug stores and gas. Close to the freeway and The Mystery Spot.

"Never stay here"

When we arrived to check in the power was out, not the hotel's fault and I am not mad about that. The desk clerk allowed us to check into our rooms, so we dropped off our stuff and headed for the boardwalk. We were only staying one night and we got in late so we went straight to bed. When we used the bathroom the next morning, we noticed there was dried blood on the outside wall of the shower by the toilet, the toilet seat was broken, and that there was only one towel. We were getting ready for our day and packing to check out so I figured I would tell the front desk of our issues when we checked out. WRONG! The front desk person was nice at first and offered - on her own - a $20 refund for our trouble. Then she called her cleaning crew, who checked out the room and the cleaning crew said the blood was fresh and accused us of making the mess. And then we were told that there was nothing they could do because we should have reported the problem within ONE HOUR of checking in. We told the clerk that the power was out when we checked in so we dropped our stuff off and left. Her reply was "its not our fault the power was out!" We asked for our card back, told her we will never stay in their hotel again and left. I am upset that the hotel has the policy that any issues need to be reported within ONE HOUR of checking in, but they don't tell anyone that when they check in. A customer's complaint should matter no matter how long their stay has been. Also, it is VERY rude of the cleaning staff to blame a customer for their lack of doing their job effectively. I wish I would have taken pictures of the room, instead of trusting the management to handle the situation. Do not stay at this hotel.

Dear Guest: I remember the incident and of course we were and we are very sorry for the inconvenience. You are right at your arrival before 2:00 pm and part of Santa Cruz area had a issue with not power and I checked in you and the rest of your family at the rooms and you access to your room and stay for a little while and I saw both or families in and out of the two rooms it was a small group. We do not have specific time for our guest to report any incident that happen at the rooms but if our guest find blood in some place at our rooms is so disgusting that I think our guest has to report it immediately , because we check you in early and the issue was addressed at the check out time next day it is not easy for us to fix the problems for that reason we only gave you $20.00 back because it was to late for us to find out about the spot of the blood at the wall , my housekeeper went to the room as you mentioned to the front desk the next morning and she found the blood spot wasn't dry. We usually provided for a room with one bed 2 towels, 3 hand towel and 3 wash cloths but if our guest need more towels just has to call the front desk and we provide it. And I have to tell you that the toilet seat was fine. At your check out you only mentioned the incident with the blood at the wall we didn't know until I read your comment today that you had issue with the toilet seat and with our towels. If our guest report any incident at the rooms we have to check it because we need to find out what of my housekeepers cleaned the room and we have to take a action for fix the problem and prevent similar or different issues to happen again to our futures guest. "Easy to locate just off the freeway"

This hotel is very close to the freeway entry/exit so may be a little noisy for some, but it didn't bother us at all. Short drive to downtown and the Boardwalk. Rooms were very clean and there was a good variety of food at breakfast. Hotel is old but the two rooms we booked were spacious and had been refurbished. Staff were helpful and there was ample parking on site. Basic, affordable hotel and we would use it again if in the area.

We were pleased with the accommodations. Room was clean & nicely decorated. Bed was comfortable, except for the pillows...advise taking you own pillows. It was also very quite (we were in the back, upstairs) and the freeway is right there which we found to be very convenient.

This is a basic two story hotel. Front desk staff helpful and check in was quick. Although this is an old building, rooms were clean and updated. The outdoor hot tub patio area is a great place to relax. Safe neighborhood and only a quick taxi/Uber to waterfront. We stayed on a Friday night which I found to be priced a little high.

We arrived very late in the night but it wasn't very reassuring to check in while standing outside and talking to the staff person on the other side of a bullet proof window. I feel fortunate that we got the last available parking space because it didn't look like there was any parking available near by on the street. Our room was ok. It wasn't the cleanest, there was some unidentifiable stuff left in one of the drawers.

This Best Western is right by the freeway so it's handy to go anywhere in the area from here. The room was clean and nice but had a slight odor. Possibly needs a carpet cleaning. The breakfast was simple and the coffee was good.

Even after Labor Day, prices are high in the Santa Cruz area for rooms. This one was not cheap, but more reasonable than most. I would not recommend the neighborhood for walking, especially families with kids and females alone, it was not good, on the outskirts of downtown they said. Booked this room months ago and asked for a room on the second floor. Was given a room on the first floor, not sure why, but I could hear noise and foot steps from above and road noise from the adjacent freeway. Room was functional and appeared to have been renovated recently, although room was small. The A/C is a unit that runs once you turn it on, but does not turn off totally on it's own, cools the room down nicely, but it is noisy.

We stayed for 2 nights during the worst heat wave in the last 50 years. A/C worked REALLY WELL, for which we were extremely grateful. The hotel is located right at the entrance to the freeway, and you can miss it if you don't see the BW sign. Parking lot is a bit tight, but manageable. Staff were pleasant and helpful, our room was clean and well-kept. And the coffee in the morning was surprisingly good!

I rate this hotel as average because that's the result you get from it. Clean decorated room, comfortable bed, great television. Friendly hotel staff and a good continental breakfast. The only issue I had with my stay was that there was a bit of false advertisement. I purchased the room with the jetted tub because of other online review and pictures which showed a luxurious jetted Jacuzzi. Upon my realization it was just a normal bath tub with added jets. They did refund us a mere $50, but still the pics NEED to be updated.

Stayed 4 nights while exploring the area, 2 adults and 3 kids. Located at the end of highway 17 and not far from highway 1. The location is still reasonably quiet and we slept well with windows ajar. The reception area was nice. The receptionist efficient. They had a city map with restaurants marked which was helpful (but it could use a legend saying what kind of restaurant for people unfamiliar with the chain names and local names). The room was clean and well kept. The decor was over average for this kind of motel. The beds comfortable. The bathroom typical. The breakfast was typical. The breakfast attendants were attentive and offered help with making waffles. Only one parking space pr. room.

We were a little skeptical seeing the surrounding area, and the exterior of the actual hotel is average. The rooms have been upgraded and were great. The breakfast was good and the breakfast attendant was on the ball and went above and beyond. He was great!

"Too Expensive for What it is"

This was Overpriced for no parking, a small room, tiny bathroom and week breakfast. We were moving our son to college, and had two FULL vehicles, and were only allowed one vehicle ( which I was not told at reservation- which I made over the phone explaining why we were coming, as close proximity to UCSC) We were forced to park a car on a neighboring street- full of our valuables. Much wiser choice to stay at the Hampton across the street.

Our building has 28 rooms and then we only can guarantee to our guest one complementary parking spot per room, our facility is small and to be honest all Santa Cruz hotels has issue with the parking, because Santa Cruz always has many tourist people and then we have a high demand of hospitality special in Summer. Summer is the time of the year that we got guest for all over the world and all over of U.S. and we had to create the policy to only provide one parking spot per room because it guarantee the rest of the guest to have a parking spot for their car. Our parking always is complementary. You recommended a hotel across the street but I think before you decided to reserved a room with us you checked the rates , and is possible you selected our hotel because it was good for you and because you got a lower rate than the rate the hotel you mentioned had at the time you reserved the room with us. Remember the season of the year in Santa Cruz (Summer) is what made the hospitality more expensive . But we try to offer the best accommodation for all our guest and for that reason we finished our hotel renovation by the end of April this year.

I've been here for three nights, the room was clean and confortable very big, all the forniture are new! The front desk is nice and always ready to support you. Free parking availabe and very goog breakfast, a lot of stuff and very good quality. Good place for visiting San Francisco and other nice places arround too.

It was a nice stay. Better continental breakfast than some other best westerns I've been to so that was nice. They need a pool and later hot tub hours. We had a good time and got what was expected. Parking was tight in the evening.

"Noisy Below Average Stay with Difficult Parking"

This place was just okay. I wouldn't rate it poor, but wish they have a "below average option". The breakfast was good, but it was VERY loud, which made it difficult to get to sleep. This was a real bummer since I was staying there to run the Wharf to Wharf race, so adequate sleep was pretty important and I had to be up early the next morning. Also, parking here is TERRIBLE! There are limited spaces and they are just kind of strewn wherever. There is nose in parking right outside the rooms, then the back of the lot has nose-in parking facing away from the rooms, along with a handful of sideways parking along the edge of the parking lot (away from the rooms). Once the lot fills up, which it does quickly, it is extremely difficult to back out without hitting another one of the parked cars. It took several attempts the first day and the second day, we were lucky and there were other people heading to the race who acted as a spotter so we wouldn't hit anyone. Also, when we arrived at the hotel and went to our room, which was a two double bed room, there was one coffee cup, one caffeinated individual coffee packet and two individual coffee packets...Seriously? It's a two bed room...What if both people staying there want to drink coffee? You couldn't even settle for decaf, because there was no cup to brew it into. The girl at the counter was great when we went down to get more and another cup, but we shouldn't have had to ask for basic amenities. Also, there were two soda machines, one on each floor. The upstairs machine didn't work. The cord had been cut, so there was no power to it. The downstairs one worked, but only took change, so again, we had to go to the desk. I don't think a whole lot of people carry change anymore, so that also seemed inconvenient and impractical. None of this would have been a huge deal either had the room been a bargain basement discount, but it was far from it. For the price we paid, I'd like to have had a lot more than was offered. I would look elsewhere the next time I'm in the area.

A great hotel for the price! It's very conveniently located, good freeway access, good beach access. Helpful, friendly, professional staff. Very good continental breakfast with good choices of food. I will definitely go there again.

The Best Western Inn Santa Cruz California is an older hotel, but has been updated and maintained. It's location is right off the freeway and really in the center hub of a lot of the Santa Cruz experience. There is a Denny's right across the street, McDonald's about a block away, and much more. Spent one night when my out of state friend visited, the hotel is right off highway 17 which is awesome. Close to restaurants and downtown and the beach. The room was clean and spacious. They had awesome breakfast in the morning. Great value for the price.

I was looking for a place to land in Santa Cruz for the night with my teens. This 2nd-floor room was very nicely decorated, all modern amenities, and secure-ish. I really like that Best Western is using soap/shampoo dispensers in its bathrooms instead of all the individually packaged products. Breakfast was definitely enough to get us started for the day. We took an evening walk around the (kinda seedy) neighborhood. I compared our hotel to the others I had considered, and was VERY glad I had picked this one for the price. Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn are within a stone's throw, and cost $100 more per night!

Nice clean room, good breakfast with several options available, situated right off Highway 1. Priced reasonably compared with other hotels in the vicinity considering that it was a graduation weekend. Provided all the basics needed for a night's stay. Wouldn't mind staying there again.

We stayed here twice a year for the 4 yrs. our son was there at college. Only bad part is that they always jack the prices during move in/move out times, graduation, etc... otherwise we were quite satisfied

"Not worth the price"

I've been to other Best Westerns and some are nice. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. But because it's in Santa Cruz and it's graduation weekend, they are able to charge the ridiculous amount for the weekend. The location is good but that's the only good thing. Rooms looked out of date and dirty. They only had 1 check in. No one was at lobby to check out at 5am. Breakfast was not even set up at 8am. It's just not worth the price they charged for this place.

Had recent visit ..rooms small with a stale odor.furnishing need to be upgraded.Rooms near freeway exit but not in ideal location. Limited parking in the lot.Front desk unable to accommodate my requests because they had no record of it.Front desk did not have my reservations correctly.Breakfast a joke uncooked sausages and potatoes..Better to book closer to the beach for the same cost Without dated old rooms with hard beds.

And we upgrade every thing at our facility , including all furniture, our facility is small but the parking lot is with capacity of 28 rooms and is complementary . Regarding your accommodation as you know we got your reservation at our system from Hotels Beds (Travel Agent) and your reservation was for 2 nights for one queen bed, but when you checked inn you requested 2 beds, my front desk did what she was able to do, she upgrade your reservation for a room with two beds with out any extra fee for one night only because for the second night we were sold out was out of our control to accommodate you for the second night , every reservation that is make online it is our system with all the information the guest provide at the time to make the reservation and we honor all reservation that are in our list of arrivals and we do not change any information if the guest do not request it. Prices at all hotels in Santa Cruz are very expensive special in Summer time. The close the hotel is by the beach , the rates are more expensive sorry we know that, but it is the way hospitality work. Take Care

Looked average from outside. Inside not bad. Woke up at 1am by police knocking on the door because a "known meth head" was trying to break into my vehicle in the hotel parking lot. Car was parked right in front of the check in area.

Super sweet staff! It's right off of the freeway but not too loud and short drive to the boardwalk! Very clean and comfortable! I will definitely stay here next time traveling up to Santa cuz! The complimentary breakfast is always a plus as well.

Location is good. Right next to Highway 17. Room is clean, but small compared to other places I have stayed. It was pricey for a regular weekday stay. Hotels right next to Boardwalk was around the same price or less. Breakfast was very good. had scrambled egg and freshly made waffles.

"Sleepless in Santa Cruz"

This place is at best a roach motel... the staff was lazy and essential items in the room were broken, Instead of their employee going to check out a noise complaint they call you room and wake you up in the early am to verbally accaust you saying that we were slamming our door when in fact we were sleeping, when there wasn't someone being loud outside our room using foul language that our children could hear. But no leave it to lazy employees to not check for themselves to see what problems are going on and just disturb each customer accusing them of being the problem... Save yourself some time and just stay at the Comfort Inn across the street.. you might get a decent nights sleep.

Nice room, very clean. I am not a big fan of the design where the only windows faces the hallway and you are forced to close the curtains. Mini fridge is in the room-very powerful- our water bottles were frozen after one night. Staff very friendly with lots of dinner recommendations. Our tip: skip the complimentary breakfast and go somewhere else. There were fresh waffles available but they were pretty dry.

"Friendly staff"

Went for a long weekend in Santa Cruz with my friend and her family. I booked 2 rooms and requested rooms next to each other, if possible. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Alexis and he made us feel really welcome. The rooms were clean and exactly what they've shown in their website. Newly renovated rooms. The next two mornings, Cameron and Allejandro helped us with breakfast. All the staff were very Friendly, polite and accommodating. The prices was very reasonable compared to others and really close to the boardwalk. I will come back and recommend this hotel.

We had to take a very quick trip to Santa Cruz and it was so wonderful to stay at Best Western. The friendly staff and great breakfast make it the perfect place for a quick stay. I don't have to worry about a breakfast space. My family can have breakfast without it being an "ordeal" because everything is so convenient.

This motel is a great deal! The staff members were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was clean and well appointed. The breakfast offering was tasty and well presented. They also offered non-dairy substitutes. The motel is not far from the beach and boardwalk. As to location, it was at the junction of two major highways which made for a bit of a challenge to get to it. .

The room was surprisingly nice! It had a microwave, fridge, coffee maker and even a jetted bath tub! The mattress was excellent! Free Wi-Fi, free breakfast. The parking lot was small and kind of weirdly designed. It is conveniently located right next to the freeway exit for easy on and off. It is also not very far to downtown and the beach. We were able to bicycle from the motel to the beach and downtown.

We stay in hotels basically anywhere from 3 to 7 nights a week. Traveling between jobs we found this hotel and were delightfully surprised. We got the Jacuzzi suite with a large Jacuzzi tub, that obviously has been taken care of and cleaned. The bathroom offered a walk in shower which was very nice and you get a microwave and refrigerator in your room. The only downfall to the room was your windows are basically right at the street and so there is some noise. The bed was wonderful and very much appreciated everyone was very nice and we will definitely be stopping back at this location again. I do believe they serve breakfast, we left so early we didn't get a chance to even look at it. But the accommodations were great and the staff were very pleasant.

I stayed here just as an overnight stop on a long trip from Northern Oregon to Southern California. I used to live in Santa Cruz so I did not need to stay in any one particular place in order to have a good proximity to places, I just know how to get around that town. So I stayed at this hotel for only two reasons, I am a Best Western rewards member (which is worth it) and it is really hard to find a decent hotel in Santa Cruz under $100. Yes, this hotel is noisy. All hotels in this area will be a bit noisy. I travel with a very small fan for white noise at night. I find that most hotels do not have a continuous fan on their air conditioning units and the noise of the fan does wonders for blocking out road noise as well as other guest's noises. The air conditioning did wake me up several times throughout the night when it kicked on, and as I was right next to the ice machine that woke me up several times as well. As far as this being a "sketchy" part of town. No. It's not. I was traveling alone with my two small children and was perfectly comfortable. Know your surroundings, lock your car no matter where you are. It's really fine. The rooms are less than what you would expect from a standard Best Western, but still better than most hotels in this price range. We were comfortable, the room was nice and clean, and as always I appreciate the breakfast in the morning. I would say if you are hoping for the "Santa Cruz Experience" this location will disappoint you. But, if you are just looking for a less expensive jumping off point then this place will do just fine.

We usually prefer to stay at the Best Western Plus when visiting Santa Cruz; however, due to college move-in weekend, it was totally booked. We were lucky to find this hotel instead at a competitive price. The property seemed to be recently remodeled, as the rooms had new furnishings and an updated vanity and bathroom. There is no elevator. Although we had a second-floor room, there was a lot of street and Highway noise throughout our stay.

I always stay at Best Westerns since they consistently have comfortable beds. I usually stay at the Aptos Seascape location but it was really expensive. I found this location which I didn't know was even there. The price was 1/2 of the Seascape so I booked it. It's a small BW, I stayed on the back side which was quiet and had a good night sleep. It looked as though it was remodeled. I loved the walk in shower. The staff was great. I would recommend this location

"One of the Better Deals in Santa Cruz"

It is hard to find a room in Santa Cruz for around $100! Especially during the summer season. This hotel is Clean! Comfy Beds! Good Service! Hot breakfast! A little noisy as it is right on the on ramp to HWY 17. Also try and stay away from the ice and soda machines...they run all night! Parking is a little tight if you have a big vehicle! Denny's right across the street. Just saying. Right on Ocean so it;s just blocks to the beach! As always check your room! We got an early arrival check in so we glad to get the room we did.Ahh, the sea breeze!

Overall, excellent stay--service was fantastic, bed was really comfortable, maid did great job cleaning the room daily. Cannot say enough about the front desk staff. Very friendly, extremely helpful. Location was right off freeways 1 & 17, so couldn't be better access to traveling. Exterior could use updating, wish rooms were alittle bigger.

Shame on me, thought I was booking and staying at Best Western Inn Plus and mistakenly booked this motel instead. Noisy intersection, not so great area of town, so concerned I made a point to park my car as near to check in as possible as I was concerned about a possible break in! Exterior entry door to a "non smoking " room that smelled like stale smoke and immediately opened window and left door open to air out. Didn't work! Interior has been remodeled and looked great, but smelled bad but would never stay here again or recommend due to safety concerns and noisy intersection.

We know and is possible you saw that Santa Cruz has a lot of homeless people and once in while they give some hard time to all hotels in this area but we try to handle the best we can Homeless people are out of our control , We do our best to keep our guest and their belong safe. We checked in on a Wednesday 7/20. We were an hour early, and the friendly receptionist accomodated us. We were assigned at room 125, 2nd Floor. We already prepared ourselves for the worst after reading the reviews, but the our stay was reliably smooth. Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast, but can't complain it's free with our stay. There's Denny's and McDonald's nearby if you prefer different breaky. We were able to print our online tickets & fax some documents for work. There was a small SPA at the back, that we were not able to try because of the hectic schedule we have. Bathroom is clean, stock is few but can ask anytime. Their staffs are always available and around. It was clean and orgamized when we went there. So far we give them 4 star. The only problem was the parking, it's limited. "Limited services but helpful staff"

Compared to other hotels in this particular area of Santa Cruz, CA, I would give this hotel a "B-". This is a smaller hotel, so the amount of services offered and provided is smaller. I would venture to say this is almost more of a glorified motel, considering there's no elevator, there was no roll-out bed in our suite for our child and the breakfast area could not accommodate all the guests. The price we paid was not a good value for the products and services we received. We paid a steep price because it's summer time in Santa Cruz.

We were there for one night, the hotel is nice and clean. We were hesitant to book due to previous reviews regarding drunks and homeless people issues. We were pleasantly surprised to find a great selection for breakfast, our room was clean and quiet, front desk ladies really friendly. We asked for one extra bath towel and got one with NO HASSLE. Our only complaint would be the bed was very uncomfortable. Also, this hotel is just over two miles from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and quite a walk if you have small children. Convenient access to the highway and Denny's is across the road. We would book here again for future stays.

Don't be fooled by the website pictures. I think they were taken 10 years ago. The breakfast items are luke warm at best. The rooms smell like smoke and the local riff raff hang out in the parking lot all night.

I stay at Best Western's when I travel for soccer tournyments. This was the first Best Westerns that I stayed at that had more rooms then they did parking spaces. This is also the first one I have been in where the office staff was more interested in what they were watching on their cell phones (including the "Manager") then actually attending to the guest needs. Over all it was a ok stay, compared to the other Best Western's I have stayed at.

Did you were at the desk and you see all staff at the phone include my person? if that be case when you see the staff by the desk talking by phone is because that is the tool we use to communicate with the help desk people of our hotel systems and sometimes it take a while during they are fixing any issue and then we have our phone in speaker and we continuing doing our job . Every guest request are very important and we take action than soon we hear the concern of our guest.

rooms were neat and clean, staff was very helpful. the hotel although nice, is smaller and older and does not have a pool but the rooms have been redone and were very nice for the price. there was also a microwave and minifridge in our room which was very convenient as we have 2 young children.

"Not up to Standards of Best Western"

Booked room through Best Western Reservations, only thing available was listed as a suite. Upon check-in, this room was anything but a suite. Only furniture in the room was the bed, one easy chair, and two desk type chairs. The room did have a jacuzzi, but the controls for the spa were nota near the tub. Separated by a wall. The TV was against a wall full of windows, and the A/C blew right on the TV, you had to turn the volume up to hear the Audio. While the room was clean and the bed comfortable, we are used to the high standards of Best Western, this facility was NOT up to the Standards.

I know AC are little noisy but like you mentioned turn up the audio of the TV is a good option of course we wish to do not have this kind of issue with the AC with you and to any of our guest . I want refund. The sound of loud drunks in the small parking lot outside my window from 8:30pm -1am got a 911 call on them! No one in the office would answer. It Was HORRIBLE!!!!!! Now since I cannot submit this until I write more I'll talk about the bug bites all over my legs and my face which I think came from the wall unit ac that is so filthy it must be dust mites. I had no choice but to run the AC even though it was not hot in the room to drowned out the sound of all the drunken loudness...

Dear Guest: We apologize for the inconvenience you had experienced during your stay at our facility, regarding your comment, we have a front desk at our desk 24 hours, 7 days , we do not leave our hotel alone, for safety issue we close our front door at 11:00 pm but guest can call any time , and is a window by the side of the building for any person can came and ask any question . If for some reason we do not answer immediately the phone can be because is busy at the phone or is doing a check in. You mentioned you did not was able to talk to any one at the office, is possible that not any one in our facility was aware about the incident at the parking lot, and the bed bug issue, we are so sorry to know that . Bed Bugs is a giant word and if that happen the guest has to report it immediately and the hotel has to take action, I am not sure if you reported the incident? and when bed bugs are present at any hotel , use to hiding at the electrical outlet or by the mattress, or behind the headboard, but I don't think bed bugs hide by the AC. I know that because include the 5 stars hotel has to deal with this kinds of issue , and every hotel staff are aware of this kind of issue , it can happen to any hotel , that is the reason we have a pest control service every month to prevent this kind of situation, Bed bugs is a very unhappy situation for our guest and for our hotel too. As you remember our hotel is very clean I am 100% sure about that because I use to get into the room to check what kind of job our staff are doing at the time of cleaning or providing maintenance job. Cleanness, customer service, and safety are very important for us to offer to each individual guest. Is any chance for you can contact our hotel and give us me more details about in what room you been for we can check if some one did something regarding the issue of the bed bugs? . When any hotel has bed bugs is a process to follow up to stop it, if any hotel do not take a action can cause a big problem, for that reason I will need to talk to you to find out what room you find bed bugs? We liked the parking space being right outside our door,comfy bed, we did'nt like the small bathroom and the trashy people hanging out in the parking lot but other than that we had a nice one night stay at this best western

"Front desk people should be better informed"

It was a very bad stay and I will not stay at that location again. I had reserved a room downstairs four weeks in advance of 3-17. We got there around 8:00 and the downstairs room I had reserved was gone and we had to stay upstairs wo elevator and moved downstairs the next morning to find out the room was available when we arrived. I had to climb those stairs for nothing. Check in and check out were terrible. False info was given to me on a regular basis. We were charged many wrong charges that had to be corrected constantly. I had to keep on top of the charges all the time and go to the office to make corrections. It just goes on and on.

Mrs. Eckert: I personal expressed you , that we were very sorry for the inconvenience of your accommodations at the first floor , and the next day early morning we looked for the best solutions , and than soon we got a early check out and the faster our housekeeper cleaned the room , we moved you to the first floor , and I sent with you our maintenance person to help you out with your luggage, and the reason for we got confuse with your rates was because we gave you over 250.00 in discount for the inconvenience of your accommodation and we had to keep fixing the rates. For some reason we did not find out any note at your reservation requesting the first floor. When is slow at the hotel is very simple to help out our guests with their request but in a busy time like we have right now , is little difficult but we try our best. One more time we apologize for any inconvenience with your accommodations.

This hotel, has construction going on. Customers need to be notified on website. Breakfast no hot food at 9am for one hour, breakfast was to end a 10am. Credit card hold is 4 days, even if paying cash for stay. Never had these problems at other Best Westerns. Area is shady. Best Wishes.

But I need to mention your some points: - Our breakfast schedule every day is from 6:00 am to 10:00 am every day , we offer Continental hot breakfast. - When our guest make the reservation and use a credit card we have to authorize the credit card , but if the guest wants to pay cash at the check in or check out we can do that but, the bank will need between 4 to 7 business days for the guest can see his or her transaction release . We make release the transaction immediately at the same time we post the cash payment, but are the banks who need that period of time for the release transaction goes trough. I just want to make sure you are aware how banks works when guest switch for different credit card or decide to pay cash. Take care,

I like this hotel for quick trips to visit my Daughter and son at UCSC. Its clean, quiet, convenient and close to the campus. Parking is a little tight and works ok for smaller cars. They have breakfast in the morning so it's easy to get on with your day and the internet works great.

Nice hotel and good location. Easy walking to restaurants and easy to freeway. Staff was very nice and rooms clean. Some rooms were remodeled. I would stay again. The surrounding neighborhood was slightly sketchy. Don't have anything else to add to complete 200 characters.

Hotel is currently upgrading all rooms which makes the hotel much nicer to stay. Stayed in one of the newer rooms, very nice, clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again if ever in the area. Very good visit.

"Can't get my money retunred to my bank account"

Still waiting to have my money returned to my bank account. The accounting of payment to this hotel SUCKS~ My room mate PAID for his half of the room at check out time. AFTER being told my bank account would be reimbursed 3 to 7 days latter, I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY MONEY~

"Broken Facilities & Terrible Customer Service"

I'd give this place no stars if I could. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel over the weekend for one night booking through Hotels.com. It already got off to a rocky start. Knowing check out is at 11AM, we arrived not long after normal check out time to see if we can check in by noon. They said our room wouldn't be available until 1 and they would contact us when it is. So we went to waste some time.. 2 o'clock came around and we gave them another call but the room still wasn't available.. (3 hours to clean a room??) Finally they called us back at 2:45pm, 15 minutes before check-in, saying the room was ready. The room didn't seem so bad until we tried to use the facilities. First of all, there were no signs stating the low flushing power of the toilets or that the shower handle takes maximum effort to turn on. So when the toilet stopped flushing and came close to over flowing, we had concerns and called the front desk. We told the receptionist the toilet was close to over flowing and the shower wouldn't turn on. The receptionist said he couldn't help us and told us to call back in the morning to complain to the manager. During check out, the manager wasn't even in, the next shift receptionist said the manager wouldn't be in until Tuesday and to contact her then. We asked for an email address in which we sent an email the same night getting no response. Today I gave them a call and mentioned my experience to them. They told me I wasn't turning on the shower right and that it takes a lot of effort to turn it on. My boyfriend nearly tore off the handle when he tried to turn it on. Then they told me the toilet wasn't broken and that we clogged it with toilet paper and that we could've unclogged it with a plunger. This could have made sense, except, the receptionist who "helped" us that night didn't provide us with a plunger, nor did he tell us it was a low flushing toilet. He just said, "Complain in the morning." The manager was clearly trying to say we were too stupid to know how to use their non-functioning facility, with no warning signs posted. Their customer service was awful and I would never recommend this place to anyone. We tried to get a refund for the terrible experience. They returned $24 but the inconvenience was incomparable.

Dear Guest: We are very sorry about the inconveniences you had experienced during your stay, my night auditor had the big mistake for did not providing the plunger or giving the instructions how turn on the shower we know is little confuse but not that hard to make it work. Our maintenance person checked that rooms and shower wasn't broken but the toilet was clog. Regarding check inn time, when we have the opportunity to provide early check inn we do, but that depend of how early our guest check out, when some guest check out early (6:00-7:00 8:00 9:00 am) is when we had the opportunity to provide the early check inn, but sometimes is not possible that is the reason we advertise our check inn time is 3:00 pm and check out 11:00 am next day. Any way we did our best and we check inn you before 3:00 pm. I wasn't here two days (my days off) but I took care of your situation and I gave you a refund for the inconvenience for not providing a plunger, One more time accept our apologize.

For one night this is the perfect place. It was clean and the located right off the 101. The room was clean but a little worn. The Staff was great, very helpful and friendly. Not that many places in Santa Cruz so this one is fine.

"Met our Needs"

My wife and I stayed at this inn October 10 - 11, 2015. The hotel is located just off the ramp from Highway 17 to San Jose at the top of Ocean St. We had room 143 which was located upstairs on the back of the building. It was a good sized room with a comfortable queen bed. The room was equipped with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and alarm clock. There was an AC unit but it didn't work all night as it was turned off or timed out or something. However, you could keep the fan on continuously which we like anyway for the white noise while we sleep. We didn't notice any outside noises in spite of the fact that this hotel is on the corner of a very busy street. Free parking was available in the hotel court yard. Free WiFi signal was good. The included breakfast was good with hot scrambled eggs and sausage available. There was also a waffle maker in addition to the usual cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt and juices. There are plenty of restaurants within a short walk of the inn. However it is about a 20 minute walk to the middle of the downtown area on Pacific and Front St. And from there it's another 20 minute walk from downtown area to the boardwalk and wharf. There was a music festival on the go in Santa Cruz and the downtown area was very busy. Lots of funky smell in the air if you catch my drift. Santa Cruz is a typical beach/ resort town. We used this hotel to explore the Monterey Bay area after spending a week in San Francisco and the Napa Valley. It's only an hours drive to Carmel and Monterey which we explored the next day. While we were downtown, we heard about fireworks. We asked at the front desk and they did not know anything about a fireworks display. However, when we visited Capitola on Monday, we saw signs advertising a fireworks display the previous night. Oh well.

This is why I'm giving this hotel 3 stars. 1. The front desk agent was taking personal calls at the front desk while guest are waiting to check in. 2. Housekeeping left a dirty rag in our bathroom. 3. Shower area had leftover hair in it. 4. No elevator. 5. Small rooms but I understand that the owners can't do anything to change that. 6. Housekeeping did not wear name tags and uniforms.

The value was excellent! We just needed a place to sleep that was centrally locate, had a refrigerator and a microwave. We even got a free breakfast which was better than what we normally get at Marriotts where we normally stay. The staff was friendly and courteous and the room was clean. My only complaint was that the bathroom was so tiny!

considering its about a 10 minute driving distance to santa cruz beach & boardwalk I enjoyed staying at the Best Western. Staff was friendly, room decor looked nice and they offer complimentary breakfast with an assortment of options incl. eggs and sausage. Like it and I will stay at this hotel when in town.

A pretty good stay but it was a little noisy as my room was very close to the street. It's an easy place to find - right on the main tourist road (Ocean St.) that heads toward the beach and the boardwalk.

This is a convenient, right off the freeway, place to stay in Santa Cruz. The room was large, well supplied, and clean; complimentary breakfast was an excellent way to start the day, and the staff was friendly and very helpful.
