Great value for money. Clean, comfortable room . Good food and polite friendly staff

I have had a very positive experience! The staff were all so friendly and professional. The guy in reception who checked me in was lovely and welcoming and gave clear instructions as to the location of my room/ breakfast arrangements etc.....my room was lovely and clean and bright and comfortable, and was well equipped with everything I needed. In the morning, i had a very nice breakfast from a nicely varied selection of items. Especially thank you to Yvonne at breakfast who was very lovely to me as I was a bit unsure of what I was doing (I am not usually a lone traveller) and put me immediately at ease. Many thanks for a great stay!

I couldn't fault anything about this hotel, spotlessly clean, comfy beds, great choice of breakfast items, rooms were made every day, staff were all friendly and helpful

Not a nice hotel at all. Bar staff and restaurant staff are lovely but management are rude and unhelpful. Would not bother staying here again.

On a previous stay we had a number of issues. I contacted the Hotel by E mail & received a very generous offer from Tom Wright the front of house manager. That if we returned we would have a greatly improved visit. We returned on the 30th of May & were really impressed by the quality of service we received. The room was a great improvement over the previous one & the service we received from all the staff was excellent. A special mention to Chris & the staff in the restaurant who great. Thanks again Tom. If we are ever in the area again we will be sure to be in touch.

The room had a musty smell, which was probably as a result of the amount of dirt around. Bathroom fittings - dirty, doors - dirty, radiator - god knows what that was! switches -dirty, carpet - dont think about it. This wasn't just a missed cleaning, to get to this level it must have taken weeks. However, the staff were all very pleasant

Rooms are dated...light didn't work...soap dispenser empty...food poor...chef couldn't cook poached eggs.... everything meal of chicken Tikka madrass was disgusting...

Small room in attic,needing attention.No restaurants nearby and ltd menu in house.Very close to Reading so ok for business stopover or visiting family but not for weekends away.Off busy dual road.

Grim! The bed was comfortable, that's the only positive thing I can say. The room was tatty and not especially clean, mould in the toilet, some very unpleasant stains on the upholstered bed frame, dust on the skirting boards. No plug sockets near the bed, first world problem I know, but irritating when you need to charge a phone. Housekeeping staff start work at 8 and have no consideration for guests not checking out until 11, you are waking up at 8 pronto, even on a Sunday! Breakfast is very basic, no gluten free options and if you don't want a lecture on theft, don't ask for a teaspoon! I couldn't recommend staying here.

I slept OK despite this hotel being on a main road. Noisy fire doors didn't help the sleep quality. Lock broken on the bedroom door. Apart from the fist mark? on the back of the bathroom door, my room was clean, and the power shower was good.Breakfast was a pretty dull affair. Would stay here again, because of The Coriander Club, excellent Punjabi restaurant (see separate review) turn left out of the Calcot-5 minute walk.

The hotel it is a fabulous location if you need to travel during your stay, there is plenty of spaces for parking, the rooms are clean and tidy with great facilities, the staff are friendly and helpful

I think this hotel is a little gem. It was clean, comfortable, and friendly staff. Our room was great, nice bathroom, shower. Comfortable bed, TV, desk, chairs, table, everything you would need. Breakfast was delicious plenty of choice, fresh tea and filter coffee. Fantastic value. Will stay again.

Excellent location for access to motorway or reading

I love this place, the food is AMAZING! Chef Jason made us some ridiculously delicious double cheese burgers and we are still talking about how good they were days later! The staff are all lovely and friendly and the atmosphere is calm They even have TNT sports! Seriously a great bar And those burgers…. My word were they good! 😌

A really nice, comfortable and friendly hotel with excellent parking facilities. I stayed for just one night at this hotel, was very convenient for my needs, a nice welcome on arrival, a very comfortable room with all amenities and good WIFI which is so important. Hotel was very quiet a little like the Mary Celeste, but service was really good and staff friendly. I had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening and such a nice breakfast in the morning. This hotel is really good value for money, and I will certainly be staying again.

room safe locked me out and staff not trained to resolve. Caused me to be late for work and cost me money in the process. wont stay here again, which is a shame because it is a nice hotel apart from that

Went here on 14th January 2026 Bought a small glass of White Wine and a Single Brandy. Got charged £14.40 for them. Thought price was a bit steep, but know hotels charge more than your local. Friend then bought, a round, the same two drinks and got charged £!0.20 by the same barman!! I accept that the price difference isn't even a Fiver so not a big deal, but I don't like it. To be honest no-body to blame,except me, as I should have asked for an itemised PDQ slip, of the £14.40, instead of accepting the one just showing the total price.

Sunday roast What a disappointment We went to a wake there not long ago and the sandwiches cake the whole spread was fantastic that's why we thought we'd go back for the Sunday lunch

Just got back from having Christmas dinner at the Calcot, Best Western. This was without doubt one of the very best hotel meals I have ever had. The food was very tasty and extremely plentiful. The waiting staff were very efficient and friendly. We had so much food that we all walked out with doggy bags and there was eight of us. I can highly recommend eating here.

I came here for a Christmas party and me and a few other guest were charged different prices for the same round of drinks as the night went on it just by a couple £ each time One time for a double and a bottle of cider was 11.50 Then a double and coke 10.20 And then when went again 11.20 for same so with two end up being 22.20 for 2 I was purchasing Malibu and coke I could of brought a bottle for that price Also they don't fill the measure to the top they leave 2cm of the top for not even getting what I paid for I work in hospitality and don't know where they worked out these prices as some people got whiskey and coke for Half the price Bar Staff don't have a clue what there doing half the time and seem confused as

I ate at the Calcot Hotel twice last week. I am Coeliac and have to have a strict gluten free diet. The restratant staff were excellent and made absolutely sure my food was gluten free. I would recommend The Calcot Hotel to anyone who has to eat a resticted diet.

I love this hotel! The staff are amazing! The food is superb! The Sunday roast especially is top notch! I would recommend this place to anyone, weather it be a quick drink in the bar, a meal in the restaurant or a stay. You will not be disappointed. Thank you.

A lovely hotel. Rooms nothing special, adequate at best if I'm honest........but the breakfast staff absolutely made the stay for my partner and I. I'd like to give a special mention to Marion & Yvonne. I made a point of asking for their names. Thank you both for the lovely welcome to receive when arriving for breakfast. Cheery, friendly and just genuinely warm and made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. Marion, your omelette was up there with the best ever. Beat mine hands down apparently:) Thank you so so much. I'd stay again based on the breakfast experience alone.

People screaming until 5am. Knocking on windows. Feral children running around - behind the bar helping themselves, driving the bar staff crazy. People dreaming life threats at all hours. My wife was staying there and did not feel safe. Why the hotel accommodates this kind of business is beyond me. The staff are saints to put up with this kind of clientele.

The two excellent ladies (Simone, Georgina) on reception helped me with luggage and guitars, amps - from the car and then to the room. They also changed my room to be closer due to all the lifting. They were both lovely - thank you!

We had a Sunday carvery today and was very disappointed. The carvery was ok ,but the Eaton mess was a mess chucked into a bowl, the Eaton mess could of been presented perhaps in a nice glass dish. The service was even worse, waited for over half an hour to get our plates cleared away and that was with me going up to a member of staff asking to clear them away and I wanted to order pudding. There was no apology from that member of staff, There were only three staff and they didn't seem to be organised or knew what they were doing.

Booked as a quick stopover to break a long journey visiting family in Aylesbury. Staff were lovely, parking convenient and free. Our room was dated and poorly maintained (various chunks of filler in walls/tiles/doors) and loose fixings (curtain tieback for one). No sheer curtains so you either have the main ones closed (though they let in plenty of light at the sides), or you're visible to the whole carpark. Bed was uncomfortable and the mattress was too small for the base, so we kept stubbing our toes/knees on the base. Mattress was super soft and the edges had gone, so you feel you're rolling out of bed all the time. No electrical socket near the bed except a small European 3 round pin one on one side (?) so we charged phones on the desk - fine, just means you have to get up to turn your alarm off if charging overnight. Bathroom cramped and dated - difficult to sit on loo as the sink unit sort of curved across it. Bath is built up but ceiling over bath is lowered so my tall husband couldn't stand upright under the shower. Shower was fine but temperature very inconsistent. Breakfast was very good. All in all we would not visit again, which is a shame as all staff we met were lovely, room was clean and breakfast really nice.

Our room was quite dated and shower lacked pressure. Liked the Tassimo machine in the room but wouldn't have classed it as a superior. We could have lived with that though, however it was dinner that really let this establishment down. I have gluten intolerance which I made staff aware of and after we sat down with drinks the member of staff came back after checking for gluten and said the only thing I could have was a caesar salad (I am also lactose intolerant which would mean a bowl of lettuce). No other options available. We asked what about the gammon or a naked burger which he went and checked and said yes I could have gammon. So I confirmed gammon, chips, egg and salad...to which he replied, no not chips. So essentially £18 for gammon, egg and a bit of salad which I thought would be very unreasonable. Our party of 3 was torn as to what to do and the member of staff didnt seem to be able to come up with any suggestions. I left my husband and his team member to order at the hotel (as they were keen on fish and chips) and nipped to Sainsbury's for a gluten free roll and sat in mcdonalds car park to eat on my own. It's not hard to create a small menu that is predominantly gluten free, I do this myself in the small cafe I manage. Shame a large hotel chain can't manage it when it is a common allergen. When I returned after my solo "a la car" dining experience the fish and chips my husband and friend ordered looked lovely to be fair and they did say it was hot and tasty. Shocking that e had to choose between all leaving and me eating on my own due to lack of options. Breakfast somewhat redeemed the earlier dining experience and was hot and tasty. The member of staff who greeted us was very friendly. I advised her about my intolerance and she went and checked what hot food was suitable and got me some GF bread. She is a credit to the hotel. This was our first and probably last stay at a Best Western sadly. We travel regularly for sports tournaments all over the country and stay at other hotel chains and never felt so limited when it came to evening meal

Basic, dated and much you could criticise but it is very functional if you're looking for a hotel to the West of Reading. Very close to the M4, so convenient and (unless there's a wake going on when you arrive) there's loads of parking. Came back at 5pm to find absolutely nowhere to park due to a wake, but to be fair they quickly sorted a space for me and gave a free drink voucher to say sorry - nice touch. Girls in the restaurant at breakfast are very friendly and happy to help, and Simone on reception is also great. Had one evening meal which was all good and whilst the menu isn't à la carte, it is functional and my experience of the food was good. Get a room at the back, less road noise … can't help with the overly loud shouty occupant in the room next door that I had ( he could have saved a phone bill by just shouting his conversation) or the one above who chose to leave a TV on all night and randomly woke me up with his “Ow … ouch … Ow …” cries in the middle of the night (cot needed maybe for that one!) Looking for luxury hotel accommodation - this isn't for you. Looking for a functional hotel where, in the main, the staff are helpful, then there's nothing wrong here. Yes, it is dated, yes, it could do with some investment in making it look and feel more modern, but generally not bad for the price

I recently stayed at the Calcot Hotel, we ate in the restaurant and thought the Mixed Grill was very generous and delicious! We enjoyed our drinks sitting in the sun on the terrace too! The Staff were all so friendly & helpful, but worth an extra mention were Yvonne and Marion! They were so attentive to all our needs, my mum is struggling with her knee at the moment so the ladies sourced her a wheelchair, got iced water for her and genuinely cared. Thank you ladies! I recently stayed at Best Western Calcot Hotel Reading and honestly had a great time. From the get go, the staff were super friendly and really made me feel welcome. The room was clean, roomy, and really comfy, just what I needed after a long day. Breakfast was good with loads of options to choose from. Plus, the free parking and decent WiFi made things even easier. the location is pretty handy too, close enough to Reading town centre and easy to get around. All in all, a really good stay for the price. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Dreadful, if it wasn't for the fact that I didn't check in til past eleven o'clock I wouldn't have stayed. Fusty smell, the carpet doesn't appear to have been vacuumed this week, there's something growing in one of the water glasses and a solitary coat hanger in the wardrobe. BW are usually so reliable too.

Stayed at this hotel for Bank holiday weekend. Really made welcome by manager and staff all very friendly and helpful. Our room was spotless nice comfortables bed . Breakfast was very enjoyable with plenty of choice and all freshly made Plenty of free parking safe and secure. Hotel decor pleasing. Really great value for money I would recommend this hotel to anyone.we will definitely be back

booked in from the 21st to the 27th of may. upon checking in on Tuesday, the following morning on wed, had to drop my partner at work. when I got back to my room, I found my room open and an asian lady housekeeper said she was cleaning the room. I was really shocked and surprised as I did not request for the room to cleaned. later that evening. I discovered that one of my three wigs was missing. informed the reception about it and nothing has been done. And if nothing is done by the time I check out, I will get the police involved.

Worst hotel The management of the hotel are arrogant and homophobic. The staff are browbeaten and defeated. They don't get paid on time. All this is reflected in the poor service and accommodation They don't clean the rooms ..if you request a change of bedding it's refused. Nothing to recommend at all. Dont go.

Bathroom is discussing, not clean properly. There no shower head in one of the rooms I'm in and when I stayed again for business the tiles look like they weren't cleaned for years . But the food okay. ……………………………………………………………………………………………..
