This place is modern and hip. Love the vibe of the lobby and room was nice. Love the hot shower and the location to highway. Quiet rooms and great beds. My room has a kitchen which we used for the week that we stayed.
Ah my room at Big Country in Abilene TX 1) After checking in late Monday night, I discovered the window on my 1st floor room was unable to be locked tried to call the front desk and the phone didn't work. Had to walk to the front desk and the MOD had to scrounge up a stick to secure the window, 2) Discovered on the 2nd day, the striker plate on the door jamb appears to be missing some parts, and the deadbolt didn't appear to work. 3) I always put my "Do Not Disturb" sign out, had a maid steal a credit card years ago and learned my lesson. I was in town for work, and I have to compile reports after gathering information all day and I occasionally leave notes out in my room. When I returned Wednesday afternoon, I discovered my room had been entered & my bed had been made. I went to the front desk and was told by the MOD; I should have expected it since my room had work orders. I pointed out, no work had been done, only my bed had been made. I stressed I'd been adamant I wanted no one in the room because of the sensitivity of my job, I can be terminated for unapproved sharing of my notes/files. She pointed to a small sign on the counter stating maid service is every other day, unless asked for differently. My job has taken me all over Texas and I've been staying in hotels/motels for my 54 yrs and stayed in way TOO many hotels, and never once have I seen this policy. 4) Not a huge deal, but the tank on the room's toilet had a leak in the back, leaving a puddle on the floor. When reported, was told they didn't have a dedicated maintenance department/section/guy currently. A hotel/motel should be clean, comfortable and safe and Big Country failed, drastically in one of these three areas. In closing I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
The room is spacious and beds comfortable. We were disappointed to find no tissues, toiletries, or beverages in the room. Breakfast included sausage and eggs, but no bread, only bagels. Hotel is clean and parking, abundant. Location is near shops and restaurants.
The best part of our stay was the staff. They were very helpful. #Negatives: absolutely no soap of any kind in the room; no pool as advertised, it is cemented in. We were on the first floor and absolutely no privacy from the windows. They have no hairdryers at all. We will not stay again,
A great "home away from home". For 3 years I have traveled many times to Abilene for football games. Because this hotel is affordable, clean and well managed; it has been my choice every trip! The staff is helpful and friendly. A special thank you to Kelly and Debra. (Also to Diane). At the end of a long day it was great to have a place to rest. Thank y'all for a wonderful experience!
I stayed at the Big Country Hotel and Suites for one night; really wish I could have stayed a few more but this trip was for a funeral and I had to get back home for work. The Hotel appears to have been some sort of franchise hotel at one time, it definitely is a good quality inn. The location is close to several restaurants and nicer strip malls, it appears to be very safe. The check in was excellent, the gentleman was so cordial, well spoken and prepared! The Lobby is nice but features a vacant bar and restaurant area that is sort of detracts from the public area's rather pleasant ambiance. The room was excellent 👍 VERY CLEAN and well appointed. The interesting room decor features a galloping wild horse mural on the bed's headboard and some modern lamps of geometric design. The sofa was really unique, see the picture. The bed also had lighting underneath the frame, I don't quite understand this idea but it should help the housekeeper when vacuming. The bathroom was a joy, very nice tile work and a deep sink you could put a melon in. Towels and amenities are first class and clean. The whole hotel shows that it is well managed, clean well kept public areas, good landscaping and pleasant employees. I can see why my room was clean. Upon leaving I encountered the Housekeeper, a small, very spry, bespeckled, older woman; grey hair and a bundle of positive energy. She is one of those employees that can really make a hotel shine. Early morning check out found the AM clerk on the ball and polite. The hotel only provides coffee in the morning, but at least it's pretty good, and I'm picky about my coffee. In the early morning I was heading to my car, I noticed the landscape people cutting and grooming, nice job, and very polite. The bottom line is that this place is one hell of a deal for $50. Staying elsewhere in Abilene does not add up to me; check it out ✔️
Completely misrepresented. Pool was filled in with concrete. States that there is breakfast buffet but they offer only coffee. Doesn't even have a vending machine. The thermostat was broken so no a/c in room so we roasted. Beds were rock hard. Bathroom was filthy.
