Best Western University Inn at Valparaiso

We was visiting family but was a little disappointed in the cleanliness of the room.especially the bathroom , asked for nonsmoking and it smelled like smoking. No updated USB connections. Breakfast was good. And we was allowed to have our family pet. So for that we was thankful.

Beware there are train tracks nearby and you will hear the train multiple times during the night when trying to sleep. The hotel is run down and has a strong chemical smell and our non smoking room reeked of smoke. Breakfast was subpar. Not worth the money when there are plenty of other hotels in the area with a better quality experience for the same price.

We stayed here once years ago and decided to stay here again as it was convenient for our trip through the area. The front desk attendant was very nice and professional. The room was ok. There were a couple of housekeeping issues that after the fact they were made aware of. The bed was fine. Breakfast was ok. Pretty standard items--waffles, some fruit, cereal, etc. Overall ok stay. Definitely not the worst hotel experience we've ever had, but not the absolute best. Overall rating would be good, more like 3.5.

Nice and friendly associates. Dog friendly hotel and they don't charge outrageous amounts for them to stay. Decent breakfast for free. As expected for a traveler basic 3 star hotel. Bed was firm but very comfortable. Hotel was very quiet.

Hotel lobby is very very small and there are no vending machines so when we first arrived I wasn't expecting much. However, staff was helpful and courteous, and our room was very nice and well-sized. Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was fresh, hot, tasty and pleasantly displayed. We will most certainly be back assuming rates do not increase.

I had been traveling for work since 2am I got to the hotel a half hour before check in and the front desk told me it would be $20 to check in early. Sure no problem. I got into the room and it was missing bath towels, tissues were empty and the floor was sticky. I went to the cleaning lady down the hall and asked for the missing items. When I went back to the bathroom to put the tissues away I noticed the glass doors of the shower had the soap and hair of the last user on them. I called the front desk and the clerk came up. I showed her the issues and she unlocked the next room over. This was almost as dirty, sticky floor and dirty glass on the shower door. She opened another room and when I went to move the shower door the handle/ towel bar fell off when I slid the door. I explained that these are deal breakers for me. She went to speak to the manager and I went back to my room. About 40 minutes later the manager called my room and angrily asked if cleaning my room would be a solution. Wouldn't that go without saying? Yes, obviously clean the room. Then she offered me Best Western points. I told her that they are useless to me because I don't typically stay at a BW. She said she spoke to her supervisor and this was the only resolution she could offer. I explained that I would be canceling the remainder of my stay and I did not want a cancelation fee. Even the batteries in the remote were dead... Dirty and mismanaged.

Bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly. Dust bunnies in corners, mold in bathtub, dirty shower curtain. Old, worn towels. Uncomfortable bed & scratchy linens. My daughter fell in the bathtub even when using the provided mat. Not a good stay!

This is a nice hotel. A very basic Best Western. Quite useable, nothing awful. Clean, good location, some traffic noise but a/c drowned out a lot of it. Good wifi and TV. Simple breakfast. Plenty of parking. No bar or restaurant but breakfast was free.

Dirty and maintenance happened until 1:30 am in the room above me. Terrible stay. Very noisy location as well. Heard trains and semis entire night. Shower/tub was filthy. I did not even shower in the hotel.

Compared to other hotels in the area with similar price points, the cleanliness of this hotel sets it apart. After reading the reviews of other hotels and the questionable sanitary and customer service complaints the reviews for the Best Western level of cleanliness was what made us choose to stay. And the reviews were correct, it is a very clean hotel, and the staff was consistently working hard to keep everything spotless. They are a super pet friendly hotel and that was a great bonus! Highly recommend this location.

My friend and I just spent 6 nights at this hotel. We have stayed here numerous times. Experience was good this time. However like I said in a previous review the room was not cleaned at all during our stay. I even requested room be cleaned and was told it was scheduled to be cleaned that day. Room was not cleaned. I understand daily room cleaning was eliminated during covid which is fine. Now I guess it's a cost saving thing which is fine. However 6 nights is a long time to not have room cleaned especially when it was requested and I was told it would be done. Need to do better with this. If room is cleaned once during the stay would be fine with me.

This hotel is the half way point between a frequent destination and we will be using it again. The hotel and room was clean, the bed super comfy and the staff was pleasant. I was happy with all the amenities except the hotel soap left a film. The is seriously my only complaint and I can bring my own. As I said, we will be back to this hotel a lot!

My friend and I have stayed here several times when in Valparaiso. Hotel is very convenient and rooms are nice and beds are comfortable. We typically spend 6 nights here. Experience has been good except for one time. Staff is very nice and pleasant. Only thing I would recommend is they bring back more regular housekeeping. I know with Covid that was cut back. However I think it can be brought back now. If not everyday at least clean the room couple times without having to request it. 6 nights is awhile to go without cleaning the room

Web site shows a picture of a pool and there was none, breakfast was disappointing, room was OK. We were in town for a class reunion at a school in a changed neighborhood so we decided to try the Valparaiso area to stay.

Heading to Chicago and decided to stop for the night, they had available rooms. The price was good and the service was great. The bed was a little hard for us but we had a good night sleep. Breakfast was good.

The web photos are deceiving. Hotel is dark, musty, and not clean. We were greeted with a bug on the bed and soon discovered the sheets had not been changed. Sheets and pillowcases were actually stained and contained debris. The young desk clerk was polite and helped by getting us several new sheets, but by then, we were "grossed out." We had to remain at the hotel but were anxious to leave the next morning.

I love this Best Western and every time I have the opportunity to visit Valparaiso I look forward to my stay here. Everyone is so polite and helpful, but this visit my hero was Kim at the front desk. I arrived early and was allowed to check in by a very nice gentlemen whose name I did not catch. Several hours later I learned that my stay would need to be extended by eight days. I approached the front desk to make my changes and was greeted by a wonderful smile and friendly personality. I told Kim about the changes I needed and she was happy to assist. But that wasn't all. I also made several other requests which caused her more work than she should have done. But with every request she smiled again and assured me that it was no problem and she was happy to help. She kept apologizing to me because the computers were taking a second to respond, and I kept apologizing to her for being such a problem guest. In a short amount of time all of my requests were handled and Kim insured that my stay over the next week would be perfect, and of course it was. Thank you to Kim and the wonderful staff. I miss you all already:)

Ants in room everywhere after changing rooms already. Housekeeping came at 10 Am when checkout was at noon. Unbelievable for the price of the room for a night and to see ants and trying to have a decent night sleep with the worry of what other bugs might be around

This Hotel was amazing! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I plan to stay here whenever I am in town. The facility is both beautiful and well maintained. The value is amazing. The quality and service sets them a foot above the rest! Thank you Best Western.

All on all it wasn't a bad room. I did have some stains on the sheets tho and bathroom could of been a little cleaner. All in all tho wasn't to bad. I mean I'd probably stay there again. I would just bring sheets just in case and some cleaning wipes

I really wanted to give it 4 stars, but I can't because I couldn't use my hair dryer in my room. I tried two different outlets and they both made a buzzing noise and I smelled a burning smell. I hope I didn't ruin my hairdryer. I appreciated the late check out (1pm), though someone knocked on my door at Noon. I didn't mind too much because I was already awake, but you'd think they would have a note somewhere that I was given a late check out. The bed was comfy, and there was also a comfy chair with an ottoman that I made good use of. I have back issues and when I am not home, I usually end up sleeping much of the night in a chair if one is available. The A/C unit worked well. Kept the room a perfect temperature. And the floor I was on was very quiet...Either that or I was just so fast asleep that I didn't hear anyone or anything. I would probably stay here again.

Everything about this stay was positive. Friendly staff, clean lobby(decorated very nice), hallways and rooms smelled and looked very clean. Breakfast bar was excellent and well prepared with items. I would stay here again anytime I am in the area. Price was very reasonable. A+

My husband and I have stayed at this particular Best Western twice in the last 3 months.Both stays have been fine.Our requests for a top floor room has both times been met and there is an elevator.The rooms are fine,nothing fancy but we don't need fancy.Beds are okay,water pressure is good and tv has good reception.Breakfast is typical hotel breakfast but coffee and cereal does it for me.They did have the waffle maker up and running this last stay as well as an assortment of hot sandwiches.The one thing I do not care for is the bathroom door.Very unusual! It just slides across the opening and hangs there.No way to even latch it so you better be pretty comfortable with whoever you're sharing a room with.Also,they really need to install some grab bars in the bathtub/shower.Except for the shower rod and a soap dish,there's nothing to grab onto if you start to slip.IMO,that is an accident waiting to happen.Mostly,though,everything was fine.Applebees is right next door so you can walk over there and a Walgreens and CVC are both within walking distance as well.

We settled into our room late, so it wasn't until the morning that we noticed the long hairs in all the corners of the bathroom, the dust bunnies behind the headboard, and the blood stain on the mattress pad. When we turned on the TV to catch the morning news, the cable wasn't working--but it was working in the lobby during breakfast. The breakfast area had no attendant, so burnt waffle pieces remained in the waffle maker, the coffee machine was sputtering and splashing, and then ran out of coffee, Myself and other guests brought this to the attention of the front desk clerk, who didn't seem to care. I had hoped to report all these problems at checkout, but the clerk was on a long phone and another person was waiting ahead of me, and I needed to depart. Won't be returning here again.

Had to switch rooms twice for a smoke smell. I took pics of hair on the bed and pillows, stains on the curtains, used towels with makeup still on them… the manager never called us back. Why is the manager not working at 11am? This was the room that did not smell. The bathrooms were gross and the breakfast is just some bananas and muffins they don't have hot meals. REFUND ME! We paid double for this place compared to others because we expected a clean hotel and good service. The front desk employees were friendly and apologetic but whoever is managing this place needs replaced immediately. I've never been more dissatisfied with a nights stay and to pay almost $200 for 1 night I would at least expect a room that doesn't smell and have someone else's hair in the bed.. Disgusting, terrible experience. I've tried calling corporate and spoke to someone who clearly didn't speak English as a first language and I was hung up on while being transferred. If I don't get any calls or email back I won't stay with these guys ever again.

The toilet base was dirty with hairs, there were crumbs on the entry way floor and also on the carpet, on the entry way floor there were ants having a picnic with the crumbs, the second room they offered was dirty also

We stayed for two nights at the Best Western University Inn in Valparaiso. Check in was quick and easy. Our reservation was made via BW's website. Our King Bed Handicap room #406 was very large and seemed to be recently renovated. Besides the king sized bed, it contained a large couch, coffee table, floor and table lamps, large closet, desk, microwave, and refrigerator. The bathroom was large, but the walk in shower did not have any hand hold bars, seat, or hand held shower; making it far from being a handicap shower. My wife who knows Clean was satisficed with the room's overall cleanliness. My wife has Back problems and she found the bed to be comfortable. Breakfast room was large, clean and it was kept well stocked with the usual free breakfast items. A surprise was; Egg Mcmuffin style breakfast sandwiches. A plus for this motel is its location, right next door to an Applebee's and being a very short driving distance from Valpo's downtown area. We enjoyed meals at Applebee's, Don Quixote's, and The Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille. We also enjoyed our visit to the Taltree Garden Railroad, which is a must see, don't miss it! This "Old Geezer and his wife will be staying at this Best Western the next time that we are visiting Valparaiso. "Old Geezer" and his wife; RECOMMENDED.

Room was not fully cleaned. Walls, floors, finishes and fixtures were scuffed and in need of updating. Very noisy neighbors who partied into the night. Breakfast area was not clean. I would not stay here again unless the deficiencies are taken care of.

Let's start with numerous unknown stains on comforter. How about the strange bathroom door or the dust covered bathroom vent or maybe the moldly shower curtain, the nicest thing was the public hair on the ceiling in the bathroom. Maybe some house keeping tips might be in order. For a Best Western it's a poor example of a nice hotel chain

Booked three rooms and had to cancel one due to a family medical emergency. When I booked the rooms, was told cancellation was 24 hours prior to arrival but when I called, they said 24 hours after making the reservation. I was eventually told I would receive a refund but still got charged and they will NOT give me back a refund. Will never book here again.

The hotel and rooms were very clean. The staff very friendly and accommodating. The beds were comfortable and clean. The only issue I had was being charged an additional $20 to check in a couple hours early.

Bathroom barn door was not sufficient to give privacy while in the bathroom. I stayed with a co-worker and preferred to have some privacy while staying. The shower curtain was filthy and COVERED in dirt. Lousy rate but apparently they gave us a good rate for our company. It wasn't worth $50 a night.

Broken glass from a beer bottle in bathroom, mattress uncomfortable, blanket thin as a sheet. The sofa bed was unusable because it was just springs. We booked an exterior entrance and instead were given a FOURTH FLOOR interior room.

Great place, pleasant people and very good location to the university. Great to have a wedding group, no breakfast due to covid but I totally understand the situation at least we do get a breakfast bag to go.

Overall it was a clean, updated room for a great price. Guests on upper floors smoked enough pot to fill the entire hallway and elevator with the smell; we did not complain or bring this to anyone's attention.

I really enjoyed my stay. I accidentally left my drivers license and the hotel manager went out of her way and mailed me my license promptly paying for the costs herself. The room was clean and well taken care of.

Somewhere between indifference and downright disdain for their guests, that is how I would discribe the staff at this hotel. In addition, the common areas were dirty, with leaves and bits of paper littering the halls, dirty walls and corners. The breakfast was rather sparse. No one staffing the area to keep things refilled, and items noticeably absent. There was a sign (see photo) about "build your best oatmeal bowl." There were even toppings available. There was no oatmeal. Not even a place where oatmeal might have been, so it's not like they ran out. The furnishings in the room were uncomfortable.

I chose this hotel based on reviews from Tripadvisor and the fact that it seemed pretty new. Overall, it was fine. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable... no issues. I looked over the free breakfast (the usual offerings), but didn't eat. My only complaint is that I had requested a late checkout and when I checked in, the front desk clerk agreed to 2pm. The next morning I explored downtown Valparaiso, thinking I would have lunch and then relax in the room for a bit before my departure. In the middle of lunch, about 12:30pm, the desk clerk called to tell me that I had accidentally left my bag in my room. I explained that I had a 2pm checkout. She apologized, but said that the room had already been cleaned and that they would hold my bag at the front desk for me. Luckily, I had packed everything before leaving that morning. It wasn't a huge deal as there was plenty to see around town, but there obviously wasn't good communication between the check-in clerk and the next day's staff. When I went to retrieve my bag, I waited for 10-15 minutes in the lobby before the desk clerk appeared. He was very friendly, but it was irritating that there was no one manning the ship, so to speak. Another hotel guest waited for a while with me, but eventually gave up and said he'd return later (he needed something for his room). Next time, I'll probably try a different hotel.

We were greeted at check-in with a lobby reeking of cigarette smoke. Breakfast served sour milk. Overall the hotel needs updating. It is on the outskirts of town, not near college or downtown area. We will not stay there again.

The lobby is fresh and new looking, with couches and a TV to relax with while you wait to check in if there is one. The rooms are nice and updated with everything you need. The breakfast has plenty of options!

I booked a room here while my son and I were visiting Valparaiso for a college visit. I found the entire hotel to be somewhat dirty. Dusting in corners and behind tables was nonexistent. I found some old peanuts on the floor under a chair. Started in a traditional queen room but had to be moved across the hall because the thermostat wasn't working. The room they put us in was a handicapped room which was fine except for that the bathroom was configured in a way that there was almost no counter space. Walls and doors in the hallway were pretty beat up. Based on the reviews I was hopeful for breakfast. Worst coffee I've ever had at a hotel. No butter to be found for my toast.

Nice for a small facility. Breakfast has quality foods including real scrambled eggs, sausage and potatoes. Only downside of this hotel is mattresses are super firm, which is not good for side sleepers.

We stay here every time we visit our son. Great breakfast, great front desk. Modern and very convenient. Very clean, and wonderful service. Would highly recommended this hotel. Applebee's across the parking lot you don't even need to drive.

We reserved this room from Hotwire.com and it was very clean for a great deal. The continental breakfast was very good, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. We had a comfortable and positive experience.

The room was adequate, though a thorough dusting is advised. The baseboards were really dusty! While adequately clean, the bathroom concerned me...the floor in the tub was very slippery, and there are no grab bars. Breakfast was a little skimpy, and, unfortunately, someone had turned off the waffle maker; after warming up it worked fine. Having lived in the area previously, I could find my way around town; road construction could make negotiating the area challenging for visitors. (Certainly not the fault of the hotel.)

We were here for a college tour. Room was dirty. Cobwebs with bugs, areas not dusted in quite awhile, debris in drawers, filthy door. Room was tired looking with banged up walls and furniture. Worst was the pillow with a dark stain. Pillows smelled, we slipped towels under the pillow cases so we did not have contact with them. We felt very uncomfortable,

A nice size room, very clean and appears to be newly remodeled. John at check in was extra nice handling the late night line with ease and humor by himself. Best Western has become my go to for a lot of reasons and this one didn't disappoint. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable and the room gets very dark. The area is quiet. I slept 9 hours which is a rare occurrence in a hotel. The bath area was my only complaint. The door is sliding with no lock and gaps. If your into privacy that's not gonna happen. The shower is big, strong and clean, but the floor is so slippery. It is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I can't rate the wifi since I never use public, unsecured wifi. The Good: Room was nice, clean, and comfortable. Bed was outstandingly comfortable. The Bad: The tv constantly lost the signal, which was very frustrating. The Ugly: There was only a glass shower, no tub. The shower floor was slick. No shower mat or grab bars were available. I was afraid of falling. At checkout I was told they keep the mats at the desk and I could have asked for one. SERIOUSLY??

Just spent the night here for a business trip. Nice clean hotel. Been very satisfied with Best Western lately. Overnight front desk staff was very friendly and fun to talk to. If I am in the area I would stay there again.

Yearly trip with kids and grandkids. Reviews on this hotel were good. Not so. Pros: room was spacious. Bed was pretty comfortable. Period. Cons: I expected much more for the money. Check in took a while. Lobby is super small. Breakfast area is small and dirty. Cold potatoes. Rotten bananas. Trash can filthy. Old waffle maker dirty. Whole breakfast a disappointment. Carpets in hallways had not been swept in a while. All in all just a huge disappointment. Will never stay here again when for less money you can get a better hotel.

Great service, comfortable environment. Very happy with the overall service. Every time we come out to the area, we stay at this same location. Very clean and comfortable. Another good thing was the complimentary breakfast, there was a wide variety to choose from, also, staff that was overlooking the food and area in general, were very attentive as they kept replenishing items that were low and made sure it was clean. I will continue to visit in future with my family. Thank you.

Hotel was very nice and clean. I arrived at 1:00 AM and checked in w/no problem. Friendly young man at the front desk. Showered and got to bed at 2 AM. At 8:15 AM two housekeeping employees, (older man and older woman), were engaged in a 10 minute conversation right outside my door. I was the last room at the end of the hallway and thought it would be a quiet room, which it was until 8:15 AM. I finally got dressed, went to the door and asked them if they were with housekeeping. The man responded, "Yes yes." I said thanks for having a conversation outside my door and waking me. I left the room an hour later. As I exited my room I the same woman in the hallway and she looked at me and didn't even offer an apology. I told the front desk about my experience when I checked out and she said I'll make a note of it. So now I am making a note of it on Yelp and Trip Advisor. I always leave a nice gratuity for housekeeping...except for today.

Located right on highway 30 which worked well for us. We stayed in one of the “outside” room; the rooms on ground level are accessed from the outside with individual doors. We were in room 115 & had no problem with noise from traffic like a previous review mentioned. There were no problems with our room & the employees were all friendly & helpful. But we rated at average because there was no “wow” factor. In our opinion not even really reflective of the price charged - it was just a place to sleep for the night & a standard motel breakfast.

Newly remodeled. Staff friendly. A tad higher priced then usual. Breakfast Bar was ok but not outstanding.Good location near the center of town and close to the University of Valparaiso. Would probably stay again.

We booked a reservation and were told when we arrived that we had been placed into a room with an external entrance. Meaning, we were not really connected to the hotel. The hotel is on a busy street and the external rooms face the parking lot, so all night long was parking lot lights and lots of noise from the road. The sink bubbled up hair and god know what else anytime the shower was run or the toilet flushed. would not return

This place is extremely unclean. I posted a detailed report on Google maps. I will never stay at this location again. I ended up going into three different rooms before I gave up and took the room. At that point i couldnt go to another hotel.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for several nights this past week. Our stay was very pleasant and relaxing. We have stayed at this hotel several times when we have come to Valparaiso. It is very convenient right on hwy 30. Front desk staff is very friendly especially John. Hotel was renovated few years ago and still looks good. We will be back in Valparaiso in a year and will stay at Best Western again.

We chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor. I was slightly worried when we pulled up and saw a few outside entrance rooms. But not to worry, our room was on the second floor with inside entry. Staff was friendly, rooms were comfortable and clean, hotel walls were kind of thin but luckily there were not many guests to make noise. I would definitely stay here again.

Everyone is very friendly and willing to help you with anything. after a stressful day it is great to come back to a beautiful room where I feel safe to relax. I always stay at Best Western when in Valpo.

We stayed here with a group of about 15 rooms for our recent wedding. Everything was phenomenal and we were pleasantly surprised by the venue. Such a beautiful hotel, staff was great and so easy to work with. They supported us the entire time and constantly went above and beyond. I would HIGHLY suggest utilizing their services for group bookings and will stay again!

This hotel is clean and convenient for our needs while we are in Valparaiso, IN. They allowed us to check in early which helped us out. The front desk personnel have always been friendly and helpful. Will likely stay there again in the future.

Clean and quiet. Beds are comfortable, the rooms are big. Refrigerator in room. Staff were all very friendly. Internet worked well. Checked out before breakfast hours, but there were cold items out you could take with you. Close to places to eat.

Rooms are nice. Hallways are long and dark so it seems creepy when walking alone. The breakfast is nice when compared to other like hotels. They offer you make waffels, boiled eggs, varities of cereal, coffee, teas, juice. Bacon, sausage, egg omelets, fried potatoes, and instant oatmeal.

Excellent hotel that we stayed at for my nieces wedding in Valpo. Cost-effective and breakfast was awesome! The staff was also particularly nice. We had a room with 2 beds and it was very clean and comfortable.

Stayed here for two nights. The room was very clean and comfortable. The inside looks to be newly updated. Everyone was friendly enough and the food was just average. I would recommend this hotel if you need somewhere to stay in Valparaiso.

This was just an overnight stop for us but was very nice and comfortable. Everything was very clean. All in all a good value. Breakfast was above average for chain hotels. We didn't have a reservation but had no trouble getting a room. The desk clerk was very helpful.

Location is great. Right off of highway 30, and right next to an Applebee's, which we walked over to and had some late night food and drinks. There were numerous other places nearby to eat as well. Our room had a king size bed. Everything was clean, and worked properly. Only complaint was that the sliding barn style bathroom door in room 409 was just a tad too narrow. This wasn't a huge thing as I was sharing a room with my spouse, but, if it were different company, one would not be ok with being able to see in/out around the door, when you assume that the door is closed, and you expect to have full privacy. it really should be at least an inch or so wider than it is. plenty of space in the room, good full breakfast with several different choices. Train tracks are obviously nearby as I was awakened a couple times throughout the night by the their horns. Bring some earplugs if this bothers you.

Previously, this building was another hotel chain. It looks like everything has been redone . We stayed in a king room with a walk-in shower instead of a tub. Great idea!! The bed has a mattress on a platform which I like but it is a little too hard for my husband. Breakfast has a decent assortment of foods from fresh fruit to cereals plus a hot egg and meat option.Good coffee, too.

The front desk was having a rough time . She did not have our reservation even though we had a confirmed paper copy . We did get a room though . A lot of people were waiting and you could tell they were not happy . My husband heard someone ask for towels and shampoo . It's a nice enough place . My only concern was that it was not super clean . There was a pretty big spider web in the window . Didn't get a picture before the cat took care of eating it . The dust on the bathroom shelves were pretty bad . The common area floors were not especially clean . There was no remote in our room and I saw a cart in the hallway with a person attending it . I inquired who I should ask about the situation and low and behold She had the remote on the cart . Seemed weird . The breakfast was fine and there was attention to detail including soy, whole and 2% milk . Sugar free syrup options was nice to see . We had our cat with us and she did kick some litter into the floor. Sorry . Next time I'll put a towel under it . Our first time traveling with her . I do appreciate Best Western allowing us to travel with our kitty .

Nice Clean Hotel with and outstanding Staff and a decent free Breakfast. Very close to the freeways and a nice stopping point.They have a nice pool and a little snack store if you get the munchies. We maintained Facility.

Whenever we visit family in Valpo, we stay here. The rooms are nice and clean and the breakfast is great. Very reasonable prices as well. The staff there on 7/7 were amazing and very friendly and kind. They even helped us out when my son was requesting milk in the middle of the night.

My partner and I spent the night after a long drive and day at the beach. very clean room, modern decor. clean modern bathroom with nice water pressure in the shower. shower big enough to share. the king bed was so comfortable and stayed cool at night. the four pillows were enough for the two of us and we slept amazingly. great movie channels. We hadn't stayed at a BW hotel for years. Our BW experience had always been old, dark and smoky. University Inn definitely changed our minds. This BW obviously had been recently remodeled. The staff was exceptional, the hot breakfast was delicious plus many other selections. There is no pool, but as a result, the hotel was very quiet since there were no children running around. Room was updated, nicely furnished, well lit, plenty of accessible outlets and AC was quiet. The bathroom was also well lit with a roomy counter. Carpet looked new and everything was very clean. Is also conveniently located with easy in and out.

The staff was very nice, but the hotel room was less than ideal. The housekeeping barely made the bed straight. The shower did not drain properly. The Wi-Fi dropped out consistently and it smelled like smoke. I reported it to the front desk several times that it seems like someone is smoking right below me. They sais they would look into it. It wasn't until I went to check out and complained again about the horrendous smell that they told me my room was right above the smoking area! What! Why? Why would you have a non-smoking hotel and then place the smoking area immediately outside the building under rooms. My clothes reeked. Overall, I just felt dirty after staying there.

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding. It was fairly clean, the rooms spacious and even though my room was right next to the elevator, it was quiet. We didn't try the free breakfast. We were here for a short time, but if I ever find myself needing to stay in Valparaiso again, I would definitely stay here. Good value.

My friend and I have stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 times over last several years. With the exception of one time our visits have been good. The room has been nice and clean. Beds are comfortable. Convenient location on hwy 30. This visit was a good one as well. Only issue was the towels in the bathroom were not changed regularly. I have written a few reviews about this property and I believe they take them seriously as I have noticed a few changes since last time

The amenities at the Best Western exceeded our expectations. The fitness room has great-quality equipment, and the breakfast suited our needs. The rooms were updated and above all, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We will stay here again next time we are in town.

Stayed here for one quick night visiting daughter at Valparaiso university. Nice hotel and reasonable prices. Directly next door to an Applebee's which was convenient. Only thing we didn't like was the barn style sliding door on the bathroom, not very private & didn't close all the way

We stayed at the Best Western for one night in order to attend the VU Christmas Concert. This was our first time at the Best Western, and it provides a similar stay to most other Valpo hotels. It is located on Hwy 30, about a 5-minute drive from downtown or from campus. If you want to walk to campus, you should stay elsewhere. The hotel is on a busy highway, but we couldn't hear any traffic noise while in the room. Our room was perfectly fine, with a king bed and couch. Rooms have been remodeled in the last few years, and everything seemed clean. The TV received about 30 channels, which was enough for me. Our room featured a view of someone's back yard. That is probably a little strange for the homeowner, but doesn't have an impact on the hotel guest. The breakfast area was blissfully uncrowded in the morning, which was a welcome relief from many other hotels. The TV in the breakfast area was blaring CNN at a high volume, but the front desk clerk gave us the remote so we could mute it. Food was about average for a hotel breakfast. If you stay at other Best Westerns, you know what to expect here. It provides a consistent stay at an average price, and should meet the needs of most travelers. I cannot think of much else to say about it.

This hotel has an amazing shower, it's rare to find in hotels these days that are affordable. The bed is very comfortable, the breakfast was hot and quite good. John from the front desk was very helpful! Overall great stay

The room itself seemed clean enough. The bathroom wasn't 100% clean. It looked like there were hard water stains on the faucet in the sink. However that was easily wiped off with some water and rubbing with my finger. Toilet seat had a smudge too that was easily cleaned off. Based on my observations I am guessing housekeeping just took a wet rag and quickly took one swipe over everything instead of really cleaning. Breakfast is ok. Nothing to write home about. Staff was nice. Would probably stay again if in the area.

We were pleasantly surprised to find a very nicely appointed room. Both decor and cleanliness was impressive. The desk clerk was also very helpful in finding points of interests to attend during our stay.

We chose to stay at the Best Western University Inn for an overnight visit on the way home from a wedding in the Chicago area. We saved about $30 compared to other hotels in the area but we were a little skeptical on what we would find there. We were 100% totally satisfied with our stay. The hotel and room were very clean and comfortable. The people there were very friendly and the breakfast was great. We highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is convenient if you are visiting Valparaiso University or the surrounding area. The hotel parking lot shares space with an Applebee's. Convenient for lunch or dinner. The hotel has the free breakfast but the hours are short 7-10 am. Good assortment of hot and cold items. Rooms are spacious and decorated well. Clean bathrooms and hotel rooms. A little tight on number of clean towels in the bathroom. Had to go to front desk for more towels, toilet paper and tissues. That is a sign of lazy housekeeping. The staff is friendly and tries to resolve issues, but are often out front smoking until a customer needs something. The entrance has a cover from inclement weather but the luggage racks don't have a smooth way to get to your car; it is a step up on the sidewalk. It is a convenient location. Close to highways, the university and shopping. Also across the street from Zao - family adventure location which has mini putt, go carts, laser tag and an arcade. There is free WiFi for hotel guests that works well. Overall, it is an average hotel. For the price, no bells and whistles. No pool and very little common space. Enjoy!

Everything about our stay was excellent. All hotels workers were helpful in all areas from check in nto breakfast to check out. Also, they helped set me up in the Best Western members program.Looking forward to spending more nights at this hotel.

Cleanest and most hospitable place to stay in Valporaiso. Staff goes out of their way to accommodate all requests. Have a nice fitness room if you like to work out in the morning. If there's anything that you feel is inconsistent with your stay they go to any measure to make it right

We stayed here for a visit to Valparaiso University and really liked it! The room was spacious and decorated very nicely. It was clean and even had a microwave which is somewhat unusual to see in hotel rooms these days. Front desk staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was great! Bacon, eggs, waffles, cereals, oatmeal, etc. The only drawback is that we heard a lot of road/traffic noise. We were on the front side of the building on the second floor. Perhaps a request for the opposite side would make it quieter. Great stay and would stay here again!

We find this hotel fits all our needs when traveling to the eastern part of this area. It is very quiet although usually full. It is very clean, a lovely room with very comfortable bed, nice bed linens and peaceful deco. The bathroom was large with a sliding door that seems like a good idea, space wise. The breakfast area was quite large and breakfast was good. We had a small amount of hall noise, but nothing from other rooms. The price per night was higher this trip, but it was homecoming at the university. Easy access from Highway 30. All in all, even with the increase in price, we were very pleased.

This is the third time that my friend and i have stayed at this hotel. This hotel is in the perfect location to get just about anywhere. Rooms are spacious and clean. Front Desk staff seems to be friendly. Though we have only seen i believe his name is John in the evenings. Only issue is our room was not cleaned one day. Other than that no complaints. We stayed at this hotel for two nights for my wife's 45th high school reunion, and we were pleasantly surprised! The hotel was refurbished a few years ago, but it might as well have been a few weeks ago. Everything was very clean and the room decor was actually quite trendy and fashionable. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure...two of my "must haves" for a hotel. The shower had no signs of any mold or mildew whatsoever, which I often see in showers throughout the world. All of the front desk staff we had dealings with were very friendly and personable. If we return to Valparaiso for any reason, we will stay here without any second thought. Nicely done!

The staff at this hotel is what really makes it stand out. The rooms are always well-maintained and the breakfast is very good as well. It is also very nice to have wifi that, for once, actually accommodates requests in a timely manner. No slow, weak signal here.

Newly renovated hotel. Rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was the normal fair with paper plates and plastic which I do not like roo much. Location is good and if you get a room to the back the noise from the road is not heard.

Pleasant surprise at the value (lowest of the 3 nights we were on the road) and the quality of the hotel (best of the 3 we had stayed in). Not that far away from the "major" ones closer to the highway. Staff very friendly and engaging. We stayed for a baseball tournament. The hotel was very clean and staff very friendly and accommodating. The Sunday breakfast was good. The only down side was no outside lounging area. We were there for 5 days and would have been nice to enjoy the outside or a pool.

We stayed at the Best Western at Valparaiso University. The staff was excellent. The beds were comfy and the breakfast was good. My only issue was there were ants on the night stand due to crumbs not swept up and there were some little blood spots on the sheets and pillow cases. Should have been caught and changed prior to my arrival.

I am a BW rewards member and booked this place because I like BW and it was a reasonable price compared to others in the area. Check in on monday evening with John was very pleasant. John is very friendly and seems to have pride in his workplace. The reception area is very nice & updated. I had requested an upper floor when reserving and was accommodated with room 402. At first i was worried because it was next to elevator but we never heard it. Room was clean and updated. Breakfast was same as most; hot selection, waffles, cereals, pastries, fruit and yogurt. Coffee was great. I used the laundry and workout room, both clean. All of the employees were nice and friendly but we talked and interacted mostly with John and want to give a special shout out to him. We will stay again when back in the area.

My husband and I traveled to Indiana for a family event. This hotel in Valparaiso was beautiful, spotless and the mattress was very comfortable! The staff was attentive and friendly. Very satisfied!!!

Very good weeklong stay at the Best Western. Recommend it over others i town. Room was cleaned regularly and staff was helpful - even notified me of forgetting article of luggage after I had left. Only recommend having a more comfortable chair and/or desk for computer work.

My wife and I stayed there 6/7 & 6/8, and we were very disappointed in overall cleanliness of the hotel inside and outside. Our room had cobwebs and the was very dusty, looks like they only dust in certain spots, base boards look like they have not been touched since remodel. found trash under bed and behind night stand, only reason we found that is because we were looking for the missing tv remote. There were even stains on the few towels that were set out for us. Housekeepers carts left unattended in hallway past 5 p.m. the breakfast that was provided was subpar and the hot foods were luke- warm. the bread they did put out were heels only. With all the competition for the consumers dollar I would expect more.

Everything was great except breakfast, which could use some healthier options. The cost of this hotel is half of what we paid last year at another hotel, and the staff and service here was better. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I have always been a fan of Best Western and have been highly satisfied with this location in the past. I've stayed at this location 4 times in the past 2.5 years. The cleanliness of this location has gone downhill tremendously. There was mud on the floor of my room, green stuff on the side of the toilet (looked like vomit that hadn't been cleaned), the room was dusted only on certain spots (tv stand and bottom shelf of nightstand were AWFUL, seriously looked like hadn't been dusted in a good 6 months). The hallways needed mopping/vacuumed as did the stairway. I even spotted several spider webs on the stair rails. My mom also had a room here at the same time and she and I are both rewards members and checked in together. Our membership wasn't recognized and we didn't receive a gift as we have at other locations. I have family in the area and I'm sure I'll be back in a few months, but I will definitely think twice before booking at this location again.

My family & I have stayed at this property several previous times and always thought this to be a superior Best Western property - not so this time! Housekeeping staff not nearly as good & efficient as during previous visits, i.e. garbage not removed from room every day, linens, towels not changed as requested, absolutely no recognition at check-in of Elite status and towels & washcloths extremely threadbare & rough. Unfortunately we will have to consider other chains when we next visit the Valparaiso area. No excuse for membership in rewards program not being recognized!

We had an unexpected, extended stay business trip to the area. The hotel had modern decor, well maintained facilities, and excellent services. The breakfast was good, but needed more modern, healthy choices.The staff was friendly and very helpful.

We stayed here on our trip to Indiana. It was a good place to stop after our trip around Chicago!! As usual, I always check out our places to stay by reading Trip Advisors reviews. I don't think I have every been led astray. Granted, some people are harder to please, but this site fit all my expectations, as I stated, not all Best Westerns have. The location was good, the parking good, we travel with a pickup, hauling a car trailer, so not all sites have parking for our extra length, but this worked out great. The room was very comfortable, clean, and quiet. The staff great to work with and the breakfast was enough for us and the price was good too.

My fiance' and I booked a block of rooms for our wedding here. It was extremely affordable, the rooms were clean and the staff was excellent. We couldn't have asked for a better stay for our friends and family. Now, husband and wife, we'll return to this hotel in the future.

When there were two people checking out ahead of me, I helped myself to coffee in the breakfast area, the clerk found me and asked a few questions then brought me a receipt. This was a nice clean hotel. The room was spacious & had a mini fridge in it. The bed was comfortable. We had a room mix up at check in, they gave us a room that wan't clean yet, but the manager took our key right back downstairs & fixed it right away and got us in a new room right away. The breakfast was good, your normal continental. The staff was friendly & helpful. We were headed into Chicago ghe next morning & it was a good stopping point, only about 1/1.5 hr from city. I would definetly stay here again.

We came to Valparaiso to visit our grandson at the University. We knew nothing about the area and were at the end of a long trip overseas. This hotel was welcoming, comfortable, quiet and clean, and had a laundry room which was a great benefit for us. The buffet breakfast was more than we expected and nicely presented. It's not a fancy hotel, but certainly adequate for anyone's needs.

We stayed at the BW for 6 days. The BW is clean. The rooms are modern but basic. There are no kids channels on the TV at any given time but there's movie channels like Showtime. The free breakfast in the morning was ok. There was always fresh hot coffee that was good, not like your typical hotel/motel coffee. The only ice machine was located on the main floor. My only real complaint was out of the 6 days were were there housekeeping didn't come twice and the 3rd day they didn't straighten up the room but they brought us new towels. On a different day we came back to our room at 4pm to change to go out for dinner. Our room hadn't been cleaned yet but there were 2 housekeepers in a room 2 doors down from ours- 1 housekeeper cleaning while the other was flipping through a magazine.

A Nice clean room, bathroom was recently redone. The shower (no tub) had beautiful thick glass doors, a great shower head, and the water was very soft. The furniture was in good condition. A good experience. Breakfast was "ok".

This was my second time to stay at this hotel. The facility is very nice and conveniently located. Room are spacious with comfortable beds. Very friendly staff. First visit was great. This time the bathroom door was messed up and was not fixed after I was told it would be. The shower curtain was dirty. Notified front desk. Told it would be switched for clean one never was. Then last day the room was not cleaned beds were not made and towels were changed out in bathroom.

Convenient location, staff, and amenities make this a great place. Housekeeping needs a little more attention as regards the floors. Breakfasts are great with a lot of variety. Well stacked mini-store on premises and quick walk to Applebee's in the same parking Lot. Seconds from downtown, the University and shopping.

Ask if room has interior or exterior access when booking. I was unaware that it was an exterior access and do not prefer that. Was OK for the one night. Staff was helpful, but unable to change room location because facility was sold out.

I stay here quit often as do many of my friends. This stay was for a class reunion and was chosen as one of two hotels for our group to stay at. They cooperation that we received from Dave, the GM. and his staff was OUTSTANDING! I HIGHLY recommend using this hotel for your personal travels and group get-togethers in the Valparaiso, IN area.

This was our second stay in less than a year, and I was looking forward to the second visit because we'd had such a nice stay the first time. The decor is a contemporary grayscale color with dark orange accents. A barn door gives privacy to the bathroom. There's a nice big screen tv, comfortable furniture, and a nice sized fridge. The bathroom has a spacious shower and the water flow from the showerhead doesn't feel like they're skimping on the water. The breakfast has scrambled eggs, sausage and BW waffles in addition to the standard continental breakfast items found at many hotels. The coffee is good although I prefer a dark roast - it does the job and delivers the caffeine to jump start the morning. This BW may cost a little more than other hotels in this category but it's worth it!

This is our third stay at this hotel. It has been updated and is modern and clean. The breakfast is good. However, we have not found the staff to be very helpful. The front desk is always empty and I have even had to go outside to the smoking area to find a person when we needed another towel one time. Not sure what the problem is--maybe they are short staffed. But the other issue is that they are not friendly at all and we have been here 3 times with the same experience. If we did not only stay at Best Westerns, we would be looking for another hotel.

Hotel was clean and nicely decorated throughout. Beds were comfy. Water pressure in shower was great. Towels were subpar...small, thin, scratchy. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was OK. Juice, coffee, ready to make waffles, yogurt, cereal, biscuits and gravy...wish they offered eggs and bacon or sausage. Overall the hotel was good and what I expected for the rate I paid. I would stay here again.

I used the TripAdvisor app to look over the reviews for this property while on the road, then made a reservation. We stayed in a King room with a sofa bed for the kids. We stayed one night in Room 306 for a total of $131.03. This property is very nice. There is plenty of free parking. There is one elevator available to use for the upper floors. The room was clean and was in good working order. The room had a hair dryer, refrigerator, microwave, and a work desk. The only odd thing about the room was the sliding door for the bathroom. It reminded me of some sort of livestock barn door. One did not get a sense of privacy with such a door. TIP: There is an Applebee's across the parking lot that is an easy walk for a hassle-free dinner. TIP: When needing to enter the street, it is better to drive behind the Applebee's, turn on Horseprairie Drive (yes, it is spelled that way), then use the traffic signal. This is a must if you need to go left. TIP: Plan a trip to the beach at Indiana Dunes State Park. It is located about 12 miles from this Best Western.

With the exception of the price of the room ($102) and the unswept floors; my stay at the Best Western in Valparaiso, Indiana was a great experience. The manager was attentive, supplying us with cold bottles of water whenever we encountered him.

We had a lake house family gathering to go to in Valpo. This building used to be an independent hotel which was absolutely awful. I decided to try it again because its a BW now. I was very pleased. The people were nice. The whole place was very clean. It seems to have been extensively remodeled. The beds were quite comfortable. The breakfast was very good and well stocked(sausage eggs make your own waffles fruit yogurt pastries cereal coffee milk juice). They dont have a pool but we didnt need one this trip. Its close to a Walgreens if you need incidentals. Its close to a cute mini golf place, Zao. There is a small shop with toiletries and snacks by the front desk in the hotel. We were not bothered by traffic noise or train sounds.

We just recently stayed at this great hotel and were pleasantly surprised at the excellent attentive staff. Our room was very clean but most unexpected was the GREAT breakfast they served each day!! Waffles made to order!!! Yogurt and cereal with numerous toppings, biscuits and gray were FANTASTIC!!! Another morning it was scrambled eggs and sausage and each morning was also bagels and toast available, everything cooked fresh!! I would stay here again any time I was in the area.

Please get sanitary pads for the hotel as you state you provide them upon request and yet they were nowhere to be found; it will save housekeeping from quite the mess (need I say more). If you dont have something you state you offer, please try to provide any help you can or offer some sort of gift or discount for the inconvenience instead of just saying "nope we don't have it" and turning away. Please make clear the hours that housekeeping is available so that we know they are not skipping our rooms if we are out for the day and the room is ready to be cleaned even after request. Please also have a bell or a ding when someone comes in and out of the front door so that guests are not waiting 10 minutes at the desk for somebody to show up, and so that we may be greeted upon entry as a common courtesy. Othewise, a good experience.

Surprised how nice this place was. Rooms have been updated and are clean. Not a lot of frills, but a nice clean place to get a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed. Rooms come with a good size fridge and a coffee maker in the room.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and each time we come the service is outstanding. Granted there is no pool but the atmosphere is wonderful and relaxing. The staff made you feel at home every time. Their full breakfast was hot and ready and a lot to choose from. Tables were clean and inviting. Our rooms were always clean and comfortable. If you needed anything they would provide them. Well worth the stay each time.

When you are tired and don't notice the noise from the highway, you will fall right asleep. Very good beds! The breakfast selection was okay. Soundproofing of the rooms could be perfected. We would stay here again though.

This hotel has been recently remodeled, it appears. The room I stayed in was long and thin, very roomy, comfortable and well appointed. Bathroom was clean and had a large walk-in shower, again recently remodeled. The only drawback would be a nearby train that is heard every couple of hours. If you are a light sleeper, this might not be the place for you. Otherwise, it was a very good night for the price.

The hotel was very nice and clean, and the room was well maintained and sparkled like it was new. The beds were comfortable, and they gave plenty of pillows. The refrigerator was probably the largest I have seen in a hotel room of its size. Plus it was nice that it was tucked away instead of being out in the open. The morning breakfast was pretty good, as well. The staff was the friendliest I have ever encountered. They truly cared that my stay was up to standard and tried to get to know me as a customer. I would go back!

Remodel was top of the line..... will be staying there again for sure in the fall.....front desk staff very friendly and answered our questions . Breakfast was not just cereal and waffles. Our room was a King and it was very spacious. Fridge and microwave in our room helps us out a lot because we stay four nights a week in a hotel for business..... every week ....

This hotel is great! The rooms have the best amenities and set up. The TV is big, the wireless works and is fast. The breakfast is enough and the coffee is fresh. The staff is always helpful and in a good mood even though they are at work.

Beautiful room - like new, very clean. Pleasant staff. Delicious breakfast with lots of choices. Booked on line with a great price. It's just down the road from Valpo U - was at my meeting in less than 10 minutes. Couldn't have been more satisfied.

This hotel nestled in a great location is top notch. The employees, Dustin,Dave,Deb,Shannon, were all so great during our stay. We have never stayed anywhere that we found the Front Desk so knowledgeable about the area, which included restaurants, shopping, and Valpo trivia. We were amazed at the cleanliness and friendliness. We are going to write Best Western Corporate because we think every hotel should be like this.

Very clean rooms. The staff was very helpful. The rooms are decorated simply and not the slightest bit gaudy. The one suggestion I would make is to request to not be in a room with an exterior door unless it is is needed as it can be a bit noisy from the rt. 30 traffic. Overall, a great and affordable hotel!

My wife and I attended a concert in Merrillville and decided to stay here as I had some Best Western points to use. I am in hotels 140+ nights/year but seldom stay in Best Western properties. If they were all as nice as this one, I would probably stay more often. This is my 2nd stay here. Rooms are nice and internet connections worked very well. Staff was very friendly at check-in and check-out. Breakfast area clean with good selection of items. I didn't have a chance to use it but the fitness center was very well equipped, in fact, better than most mid-range hotels I stay in. I've stayed at two other hotels in Valparaiso and would rate this property the same or slightly above those.

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel in order to attend a visitation and funeral in nearby Kouts. The room was clean, well equipped, and quiet. Breakfast was good, and the front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. This will now be our hotel of choice in the Valpo area.

Beautiful new/newer hotel. Extremely easy to find. Great large room with fold-out couch. Fantastic bathroom. Helpful staff. Reasonable price. Very nice continental breakfast. I would stay there anytime.

Perfect for single stay, family stay or business. Easy in-and-out from Valparaiso area. Rooms are clean and quiet and spacious. I would recommend if you are staying in this area. The hotel was not over-populated either and had the whole breakfast bar to ourselves in the morning.

After staying at this hotel, I have bed bugs. I called the hotel letting them know what happened.. I would stay away at least until they've had a few months to treat!! (I stayed in one of the exterior entrance rooms)

We were meeting family here prior to attending a funeral. This hotel was clean and recently remodeled. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed Standard breakfast fare. Free wifi and newspaper. Small refrigerator and microwave in room Would definitely stay here again

In Valpo for homecoming weekend. Booked hotel online. We had a king bed and a sleeper sofa. Room was large, clean, and spacious. The lobby was warm and inviting. Loved the cozy seating area around the TV and fireplace. Hotel decor was very nice.

This is our second stay at this hotel and we will make it our routine stay when we visit family in Valparaiso! We particularly like the modern updated rooms and the comfort of the beds. The hotel is also very quiet.

We stayed at this Best Western location after a day at the dunes. This is a very nice, clean property. Our King single room was very spacious with refrigerator and microwave with a pretty comfortable bed. No complaints at all.

We stayed here one night during a recent stay in Valparaiso and we enjoyed this hotel. The hotel was very clean and updated, the rooms are big, we had a couch to sit on along with a microwave, and refrigerator in there. The bed was very comfortable! Wish the bathroom was larger, only big enough for one person, the door to the bathroom is a sliding door...kind of strange. The breakfast was the usual things! We really liked the location! Over all a very nice hotel!
