My husband chose this (unstaffed) hotel b/c it looks amazing in the pics. As soon as we arrived we realized this hotel wasn't what we had hoped for. The office door, open when my husband checked in, was locked a few minutes later when we came back to go to our room on the 2nd floor. We had to take the back stairs which were grimy, and the walkway to our room was equally gross. The exterior paint had large blisters that were cracked open. The room had one chair (we ordered takeout and had to borrow someone's chair so we could sit together to eat our meal). The ice maker in the office was broken; I suppose that if we had had a pickaxe with us perhaps we could have chipped off some ice from the chunk in our undefrosted refrigerator, which would have also helped b/c the ice from the freezer in the tiny, tiny fridge took up so much room we barely got to 16.9 oz bottles of water in the fridge. There is a wall unit air conditioner on the opposite side from the bathroom (the warmest place in the room), and it was "okay," but not super effective. There were no hooks or racks for bath towels, and no washcloths. The walls by the shower fixture (which was huge and looked nice) were disintegrating at the base and there was mildew in the shower. The room had not been cleaned well; I set my phone in one of the cubbies over the desk and instantly removed it b/c my fingers left marks in the nasty amount of dust that was in there. When I looked it up, this hotel goes for $236/night! We stayed at another BW (not "signature") on this trip that cost more than $100 less/night. I'm glad we used points; HOWEVER, it cost 18,000 points, way more than the other for WAYYYYY less of a hotel. This feels like a gentrified dive hotel I'd normally drive past. Good effort, but the execution is lacking.
Check-in was confusing and the signage was unhelpful. Room reeked of pine scented cleaner that would not air out as we left the door open. Bed was incredibly uncomfortable and bed frame squeaked at every movement making it impossible to get a uninterrupted night sleep. We were suppose to have access to the unstaffed lobby with our key card but our card couldn't get us in.
The location is super. Within walking distance to the great affordable Bagel Land & markets. Comfortable & roomy bed & superlative sheets. Even a rocking chair was provided. Affordable stay Not for you if you desire contact with someone in the lobby. The Turkish caffé adjacent is not to be missed, too! Thank you I will bee back
What a delightful hotel! Easy check in, easy, friendly check out. The room was so clean and comfortable. The rooms are updated, very zen and nice. Great shower. I was surprised to hear the owner explain that the bed frames, mattresses, tiles, etc were all made in the area. Even the linens were purchased from the only mill in America. I strongly recommend you visit the restaurant next door. Scrumptious food and outstanding home made baklava, Dubai cheesecake and many other unbelievable desserts. Coffee too! Yum. Don't over look this hotel. I'm fussy and this was a lovely stay.
Very very clean room. Updated as well. The hotel is located within a shirt driving distance to food and shopping. The beds were nice and firm and comfy Neighborhood seems quiet and safe. The only thing that came across my mind to mention in this review that is negative (although very minor. More as a note to the owner who was very very kind), is that the window bed kind of blocks the air conditioner, and hooks in the bathroom for a stay longer than 1 night would be most helpful!!! Def will stay at this Gem of a place again.
Came in as a couple, and left pleasantly surprised. Good location, good food nearby, and clean and soft beds. Owner came out to check on us as we were leaving, and was happy to chat about the renovations and work he had put in on the property. Very clean, cute and welcoming aesthetics, and a good spot to hang your hat at the end of a wonderful day.
Always a pleasure to stay at Hotel on Monroe. The staff are helpful, pleasant and courteous. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and modern. The bed is extremely comfortable and just huge! Silas, the owner goes above and beyond to help. We can highly recommend Hotel on Monroe, we've stayed there numerous times when visiting our family in Rochester.
This place is a gem. Modern boutique style hotel. Very comfortable bed, great shower, fantastic location, lots of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The owner Silas and his staff made me feel at home away from home. Will definitely be staying here again and I am already recommending it to friends and family.
No coffee maker in room, but coffee maker in lobby was overflowing with empty k cups for two days in a row until I finally called management. The room was still dirty. The bed was made but there was still garbage from previous tenant and food residue on the night table. No latch on sliding barn door at bathroom. The door never fully closed. Flooring was LVT but bc it was winter that meant we had puddles of water in the room. Carpet at the entry door at least would have been nice. No basic tv other than Youtube tv. Had to call management to learn that. Otherwise you are expected to use your own streaming service account. No full length mirror. Wardrobe rack was located in bathroom. Lighting is fancy but super bright and harsh. It seems like they spent all their time on certain finishes but overlooked some pretty basic things you expect out of a hotel room.
Room was basic and clean which was all we wanted. Bed was comfortable. Contactless check in and check out worked well. We couldn't get the TV to work other than for YouTube. Provided some apples and packaged pastries for breakfast. Very happy with the room at the price we paid.
Called the cops and also racist promised a room they couldn't provide they called the cops after me trying to explain the owner who is also the man who you call to reserve with when no one is staffed is also very insistent on cursing wish I could add audio file of his negligence calling me every name in the book stay away
The beds are very comfortable and the water pressure is great in the shower. Walls are paper thin, though, so you can hear people in the other rooms, and the general quality of things is fair to middling. Not sure why the rooms are so expensive.
