"The most pleasant staff I've ever met."
R4ke, 16 Août 2023

Due to technical issues with the ferry we we're accidentally stuck on the island for an extra day. The staff here did everything they could to make our stay a pleasant one and they delivered in spades. Also the breakfast buffet kicked ass and the parking lot was free in a town where parking is quite costly. Nice!

"Excellent service"
Jan S, 01 Mars 2023

Helpful, attentive staff. They went above and beyond to help us with shopping, site-seeing, and restaurant needs. They tan off maps for us and marked routes, etc. The breakfast was excellent and beds were comfortable.

"Average in every way"
dgjohansson, 22 Septembre 2021

I would probably not stay here again if I could choose. Rooms are in need of a renovation and everything feels a bit runed down. Sure, it is just outside the wall, but sort of in the wrong end of town. It is close to the ferry port and they boast with a sea view (barely visible in reality). Breakfast is as usual excellent, but almost every Swedish Hotel pulls this off, so this also is average. Free parking on the street (quickly full) and a fee subjected parking lot on the back side of the hotel.

"Great location"
AnetteBell, 04 Août 2021

Comfortable hotel. Great location to the old town with plenty of restaurant. Could possibly do with a safe and a fridge in the rooms. Breakfast was good. Would stay there again as it is really conveniet to everything.

"Good location"
AnetteBell, 28 Juillet 2021

Comfortable hotel but we did pay 600 kr extra for an upgrade to a superior room which was a waste of money no fridge no safe and a view of the car park. Not even a bottle of water. Waste of money good location to the old town with plenty of restaurant. E

"It was a good experience, but it can improve"
Isuckel, 28 Juin 2021

My family and I stayed 3 nights there. The rooms lack of air conditioning, which we suffer for, due to the summer weather. Also, at arriving my husband asked if there was dinner service, the answer was no, and later we learned that they did have that service. The place was mainly clean, although the corridors' carpets do need to be changed. Breakfast was OK.

"Great location close the city wall & harbour, but beware of breakfast situation"
HannaBragberg, 13 Août 2019

A couple of minutes down-hill walk to all the restaurants in the harbour and really close to the city wall. We had a room with a small balcony facing the sunset over the sea. Unfortunately the breakfast arrangements turn down my rating of the hotel: it was chaos all four mornings we stayed at the hotel, even though we got there at different times. We had to wait for coffee, bread, jam etc and the buffet was extremely over-crowded with people bumping into eachother. We had to sit in the sofas in the lobby twice, which is not an ideal place to eat.

"Nice hotel just outside the citywall"
PP2020, 16 Juillet 2019

Very friendly and helpful staff in the reception. The hotel was just outside citywall and easy to walk to harbour and inner city. Although if you come from ferry, it might be a little climb to get there. Our room was with balcony facing yard, but we heard no noise. Room was spacious, a bit nineties, but all we needed. Spotless clean. Good shower, bed and plenty of room to put luggage on the floor. We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choices warm and cold, fruit and local quality products eg. delicious carrot-chili-ginger jam.

"Good location, great staff and breakfast, rooms ok"
salarsson, 09 Juin 2019

An overall nice stay at a good location, just outside the city walls. Very friendly and accommodating staff and a pretty great breakfast. Rooms seem nice, too, but beware of very soft and wiggly beds! Price is a bit high due to the location, and might not truly reflect the quality of the establishment itself.

"Location staff and Breakfast"
Iggy O, 24 Mai 2019

Fantastic staff really helpful. Great Location 50 meters from the wall. EXellent Breakfast really enjoyed to the fullest Only negativ thing t be said was shortage of parking space Free coffee thruout the day

"Cinvenient base for touring Visby and Gotland"
johnmQ4443SR, 23 Mai 2019

Gotland is what is typified as "Old Sweden", a lovely, low key, friendly and picturesque place. We chose the BW Solhem hotel for its convenient access to the ferry termnal and to the Visby walled town. It proved a good choice as the hotel was clean and comfortable, reasonably priced and enabled to us to walk only a short distance to shopping, restaurants and most historic sites in Visby. We rode the ferry from the mainland and walked, or rather pushed our way to the hotel as it is only 400 meters from the ferry terminal - but at the top of a steep, but fortunately paved, slope. Being immediately outside the wall, it is very easy to find, and also provided an easy exit from the city to tour the rest of Gotalnd whether by car, bicycle or public bus. We used the hotel as our base, hired a car and parked overnight in a secure area at the hotel for a nominal extra charge. That way we could do the south end of Gotland on one day and the north end on another.

"Nice hotel close to Visby ancient wall"
Someishere, 19 Juillet 2018

The hotel is just outside the ancient wall and not far from the ferry terminal. It's old but renovated and with nice rooms with comfortable beds. Unfortunately no lift to the upper floor. Kind staff and a wonderful breakfast. To recommend? Absolutely!

"Magnificent "
GanL, 15 Juin 2018

Great location, 400m to ferry terminal, 100m to Visby City wall. Nice room, comfortable pillows, coffee making corner, fridge, working table, chairs, great lightings. Had a nice breakfast. Great and helpful staff. Baggage storage. Nice lounge at reception and free fragrant coffee to drink.

"Great location and breakfast, good value for money although the decor that could do with an update"
MrJan, 29 Mai 2018

Solhem is a rather basic hotel, don't expect a luxury vacation, but with some great advantages. First of all, the location is great! It's located right beside the city wall and it's very easy to reach many of the sights in the city from here. Secondly, they have a very good breakfast with everything you can possibly want (you will have to be picky to find fault with it at least). Upon arrival, the staff was efficient and professional, but a few more smiles wouldn't have hurt. The room we got was spacious, clean and with a very good bathroom. However, be prepared that the water in the shower has a low pressure because of the frequent water shortage on the island. The beds were excellent, but the pillows could been approved on because they are a bit too thin and flimsy. However, this is something that you can encounter in 4-star hotels also. Our room was equipped with a water kettle, free tee and coffee (with is also served in the reception),a stove with two cookers and a micro-wave oven. However, we didn't use any of these kitchen appliances so I cannot say anything more about them. The only (minor) minus point is that I would consider the decor a bit outdated and tired. It works, but could do with a renewal. All in all, I would consider Solhem to be a very solid choice when going to Visby, It has all you would expect for a hotel at a decent price (for Visby at least which during summer season can be very expensive)

"Good value package "
FrankF855, 06 Mai 2018

Stayed at the Best Western Solhem as part of a package offered by Go To Gotland. The package was return coach fares from Stockholm Central to Nynäshamn, return fares on the ferry and 2 nights accommodation. Everything, went like clockwork. The buses were on time, the ferry ran like a Japanese train (on time to the minute) and the hotel was both convenient and comfortable. The breakfast was included and was excellent. Visby is a lovely mediaevel town and worth a visit. All round excellent value.

"Recommend this clean hotel with great location"
lifeistravel2017, 29 Octobre 2017

This hotel is centrally located just beside the ancient city wall and in a lush park yet close to everything in gorgeous city of Visby. Rich breakfast buffet is included as well as free coffee and tea in the cosy lobby.

"Very nice Best Western"
azalice1, 30 Août 2017

We booked a standard room and it was a nice size for two people. The hotel has several levels with an elevator available. We did not know at the time we booked online that we had booked a pet friendly room. There is a separate building with two or three pet friendly rooms behind the main hotel. We took the room and immediately found ourselves next to several small noisy dogs every time we opened the outer door to the building or the door to the room. We changed rooms right away and our stay was very quiet for the four nights in Visby. The hotel is at one end of the town just outside the city wall and the fair was at the other end; this made for a little too much walking over cobblestone streets for us. But the hotel is near a main shopping street in town with shops and restaurants. The service in the hotel was good with a couple of exceptions; mainly a couple of the front desk staff who could not answer some questions. For example, my husband asked if the medieval walls light up at night for photography and the staff person did not know. One staff person also marked our Visby map with a shopping street near the hotel but it was the wrong street. The hotel's full breakfast buffet had the standard fare including cereals, scrambled eggs, meats and cheeses, etc. In addition, the hotel has several light meals available in the lobby for lunch or dinner. Overall, we had a very comfortable stay at this hotel.

"Very good location, comfortable and quiet rooms and surroundings."
Superkatt, 11 Août 2017

Hotel is located right by the Old city walls, near to the centre of Visby and just 5 minutes from ferry terminal. Comfortable rooms, some with balcony and sun-chairs. Good breakfast, but maybe little too crowded in the breakfast room in the morning. Parking in front of the hotel is free but nearly always occupied, parking in the backyard costs 80 Kr. Carpets in the common areas. Small nice souvenir shop in the lobby. We had nice and comfortable stay here.

"Perfect for Visby weekend"
QuitePickyTraveller, 25 Juillet 2017

Great location, nice breakfast, clean, friendly staff. Close to ferry and literally just outside the walls of Visby. 5 min walk to city center. Extra plus is the availability of dedicated parking with charger for electric cars. Improvement potential: beds a little hard, rooms could be better sound proofed

"Island Games 2017"
OC345, 01 Juillet 2017

Island Games 2017 was held in Gotland this year and our team spent a week at this hotel. The room was decent with a small kitchenette included. No a/c required given the temperature. Liquid soap dispenser is in the shower. No complaints about the room itself. We did have to kill 3 small spiders and didn't get fresh towels twice. I know the hotel was full with athletes so understandable. The magic for this hotel is the front desk. Their staff are extremely attentive and ensure guests are treated as guests. We had transportation issues that were ironed out quickly and daily ice requests were a breeze. The property is located near to the lovely town, thus walking distance to restaurants, stores, etc. bicycles also available for rent at 160/day. Very good wifi coverage. Breakfast had some options and most were fed properly to perform. I would recommend.

"Perfect for GGN!"
Lasse-Fia, 30 Novembre 2016

It's a perfect place to stay at during the GGN weekend (Gotland Grand National). This was my third year at this hotel. There is no restaurant at the evenings (not that I know of anyhow) but there are plenty of nice restaurants nearby. Personally I like Bistro Torget! However, at the hotel they still have food which you can bring to your room or eat in their nice lounge. This year, after the race when I was rather tired (I didn't feel like going out) I had their Ceasar Salat and a small bottle of red wine which I brought to my room and it was perfect! I then fell asleep like a little baby in their nice bed... Zzzzz... The personell are very kind and caring about you and I can really recommend this hotel!

"wonderful place for the price"
starztelavi2016, 07 Novembre 2016

very nice, friendly atmosphere, good service, wonderful views, wonderful location, great breakfasts. We stayed here in November, 2016 and we adored it for its cozy sitting hall, friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely recommend it to others also

"Exceeded expectations"
Brent203, 08 Octobre 2016

We stayed for 2 nights in early September. Great location we thought just outside the wall. We used our Best Western points and found the hotel to be better than we imagined it would be, rooms were quite acceptable. Breakfast buffet is expansive, can be busy at times. Hotel was quiet, reception staff plenty helpful.

"A great place to stay in Visby"
Ruth A, 07 Septembre 2016

I thought the hotel was great and it was just right for me and my husband. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great, quiet place and not far from the sea. I highly recommend it. It made my stay in Visby that more enjoyable.

"Short holiday"
Racingrod, 29 Août 2016

Well located with clean rooms and friendly service but limited bar and no resturant except breakfast. Not bad but 3 star at best. Close to town and ferry. Would have to consider a 4 star if returning with a decent bar.

"Friendly & Quiet"
Frank S, 28 Août 2016

We spent a most enjoyable time at the hotel. The room was quiet and we enjoyed a lovely view of the harbour. One of the windows was circular, like a very large porthole, which was a nice touch. Service was excellent, and the standard of daily cleaning for the room was outstanding. We used the laundry service, which came back that day, again excellent. The location just outside the city wall, & well up the hill, is very convenient.

"Nice peaceful and great location"
Matias F, 07 Août 2016

We spended a one night in this hotel. Receptionist was quite friendly, but service could be better. Room was very large and new. I loved the location of this hotel. It's nearby the harbor and the old town.

"Great quiet hotel! Calm and comfortable experience!"
Linnianna T, 04 Août 2016

I love peace and quiet and even though it so happened that I was on a business trip when visiting Gotland, this hotel was a real treat! The service was wonderful, the staff was really helpful and they also managed to be as un-imposing as possible, not bothering me at all. I asked for a toothpaste and some other basic essentials (most of them are free, as instructed on a leaflet in the room) and the staff at the counter was very helpful to get them for me. I really loved that they had detailed instructions in the room on the table with everything you needed to know about the hotel, where to get what, the prices, the rules - just everything, it was very convenient! The lobby was also very original, interesting glass chess games, a small library, very very homey! Loved the food, very nice and relaxing atmosphere in the dining room with good calm music. I was there in March and as I was told it wouldn't be as quiet during the summer, however I was okay with it, I love peace an quiet. The hotel is located right near the old castle wall, very close to all essential places you would want to visit, right near the bay also. It was a little odd to get used to the smell of the water in the shower, I believe they treat their sea water for things like these, so it smelt like the sea a little and my hair would weave more than usual, but it was okay, even interesting, to feel the individuality of the place. I LOVED the warm floor in the bathroom - they have heating installed in their floor there and you can regulate the heat. It was genuinely wonderful. Free wifi and all. What more would you want? Overall, it was a great experience, very romantic (for a business trip)! If I ever do manage to come back there, I'd love to visit it with my girlfriend!

"Nice hotel, good peaceful location "
Pauke75, 23 Juillet 2016

I stayed at the hotel 3 nights with my 2 kids. We had large room and the only balcony room. The room was clean but the air of the room was somewhat stifling although we kept the balcony door open. Quiet location but very near of everything. ICA grocery store with long opening hours very near (300m). Walkable distance to restaurants and harbour. Fresh breakfast with large selection.

"Great location, the breakfast service not quite perfect "
Katarina O, 13 Juillet 2016

After a week of hard work in Visby staying in a private home, my husband joined me on the island and we moved to Solhem. The location just outside the City Wall but still very close to everything was just perfect. Our room was spacious, clean and we even had a big terrace at the back. Friendly staff but the breakfast management was not up to it. Lots of dishes left for hours both inside and outside. Scrambled eggs very hard and sausage cooked instead of grilled. Lovely local mustard though, among some other genuine things. Offer more local products, why not a piece of the famous saffron pancake?

"Good rather than very good "
Skytourist, 06 Juillet 2016

A very busy week on Visby with some political thing going on so getting a room was great. Not bad either little room with kitchenette. View as well. Comfortable and quiet and right by the sea so easy access to everything. Just outside the town wall so not hard to find your way back. Runners there is a costal path that goes further than I ran, head north and there is s parcor work out area.

"Room with a view"
betmay, 29 Juin 2016

This hotel was perfect as it sits up on a hill (a straight walk UP from the ferry) and gives you a view of the old wall and the sea. The room was large and even had a kitchen but I think you need to arrange with the hotel to use it. They offer bikes to rent and it is right on the bike path. I enjoyed being out of the city center and having it so close to ferry. Breakfast had many options. I give it a thumbs up!

"Top Choice for Visby"
stopoverqueen, 13 Juin 2016

This hotel is within walking distance from the ferry harbour. Our room faced the wooded area and water so it was super quiet. High windows allowed natural light to flood the room during the day and they had blinds to shut it out for sleeping. Extremely spacious throughout and there was plenty of cupboards for clothes. Large bathroom. The breakfast was outstanding with lots of choices. Though there were a lot of guests it was quiet. Lobby seemed inviting and there was free coffee and tea there all day. Front desk helpful as well. Walking into the walled part of the city was easy; literally, the walk is just outside the hotel. All the recommended restaurants and sites where easy to find from the hotel. We booked it as a package including ferry and a rental car for one day. All you need is that day really so it was a great three day break.

"sisters in gotland"
rabah o, 03 Mai 2016

check-in was very fast and very friendly receptionist. parking was available. only one thing we had a problem with was the entrance doors from the back side. our room cards did not work there. we made them aware of it but nothing was done about it. i guess because of the long weekend. otherwise overall the staff and hotel was great. would definately stay there again and recommend it to others.

"Very nice"
Ashley H, 28 Février 2016

After a week of hostel having my own room was fabulous. I had an amazing view of the sea and could watch the sun set over the Baltic from my bed. Everything was very clean. The breakfast was very good. Staff was helpful in recommending restaurants. It sits just outside the city wall.

"Very clean room, nice staff, and good location"
Faith S, 16 Février 2016

My husband and I booked a superior double room. The room was clean and large with a woody balcony. We enjoyed the atmosphere there. The staffs were all caring and willing to help. They prepared our breakfast for taking out at the date we checked out so that we could catch the ferry in the very early morning. That was very thankful. The hotel is in the walking distance to the port and to the city center. It is extremely convenience to connect with the ferry.

"A good place for Visby visit"
tiklaima, 09 Août 2015

Comfortable, clean rooms, quiet location in a park right next to the Old Town Wall and 7 minutes walk from the sea. Very hospitable common area with tea/coffee and pastries on offer the whole day. Friendly personnel We were not too happy to hear upon our return fromn a cycling trip that hotel is overbooked and we have to switch. Having said that, the transfer was organized perfectly, we got taxis waiting and replacement acommodation was even better quality

"Great hotel with many pros, but one con"
ubkvist, 25 Juin 2015

We were on a package tour with accomodation at this hotel included so I can't comment on the value. Location is very good, just outside the famous Visby ring wall. Our room was spacious and clean and so was the bathroom. The staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was delicious with lot of choices. Our only complaint is the bad bed comfort in room 313. The mattresses were much too soft. All our friends in the other rooms had firm and comfortable mattresses and, when they tried our beds, they agreed that it was almost, a bit exaggerated, like lying in a hammock. We slept very bad during the four nights we stayed at the hotel. Had we had better sleeping quality I would have rated this hotel higher. Anyway, I can recommend this hotel but not room 313 unless the beds are replaced.

"Perfectly located, friendly, helpful staff"
sonjaauburn, 24 Juin 2015

My stay of 3 days was perfect! The front desk staff was friendly, helpful, easy going, engaging. The room was spacious by European standards. Just outside the door was the old fortress waiting to be explored or a bike to venture out further in Visby. I highly recommend this hotel!

"Perfect location"
210annaw, 09 Juin 2015

Nice place just outside the walls of Visby. Parking lot was a bit small. The surroundings where very idealic. The breakfast was a delight, they had all that is needed. My room what big and spacious and really ok for a 3 star hotel

"Good hotel in a very convenient location!"
Garruss, 07 Juin 2015

We stayed here for two nights in May, and the thing we liked the best was the location. It's just outside the old city wall, but still within walking distance to pretty much everything that you need. It's also quite convenient to the ferry terminal. The breakfast was pretty good, and the guest room itself was fairly basic. They also have a sauna in the basement, which was quite nice, and we ended up using it a couple of times, and had it all to ourselves. It just takes a while to heat up. I would consider this place again if we return to Visby.
