"Wi - Fi Not good"
Alan E E, 11 Octobre 2018

I have stayed several times at this hotel, and while the superior are adequate the WI- FI is atrocious. It keeps dropping out because of the lack of signal. Some boosters on the floors may need upgrading. On the positive side and if you do not need WI-Fi the hotel is very friendly and the breakfast is first rate.

"Do not be put off by outside of this hotel"
SFord1163, 08 Octobre 2018

As the title says, don't judge by outside, it is not great, looks like a 60s school with an enormous car park outside. Inside really nice, staff helpful. Room was very nice overlooking front of hotel and beach to the right, not at all noisy though. Food very nice, waitress service in lovely dining room for dinner, breakfast service at counter but there was no limit to what you wanted from hot counter, cereal, fruit, breads etc self service. Bar very big, bit noisy that night as wedding party with kids for next day, no much control shown by parents for other patrons. Would stay again and not grimace when arriving as I now know inside is great.

"Read reviews and this is mine"
Glenwood2541, 08 Octobre 2018

Having read the previous reviews we drove up to the premises and thought they could be true. It is a 1970s hotel block which looks unnattractive and yes a few smokers around the front door, easily resolved. Inside it was a bit worn in places a bit patched but honestly it was surprisingly good. Staff were friendly, room was clean and tidy, bar service was fine as was the delivery and quality. I can imagine like many hotels the patronage could be a bit fruity in language but I've heard worst in more upmarket places than this and at least here most people we met were not only polite, friendly but genuine. It was value for money, one night stopover with breakfast that didn't break the bank what you saw you got with a bit extra thrown in.

"Disappointing"
lasthol, 05 Octobre 2018

Sadly this was a bit of a let down. The hotel needs refurbishment and some strong management to deal with the guests. Reception staff were great friendly and helpful however bar staff were slow and poorly trained. Housekeeping were lovely. Food was acceptable. Rooms adequate & clean. The biggest worry was drunk guests with foul language around children which was not managed so left other unable to use the bar plus smokers sitting/standing at the entrance to the hotel which we had to walk through with children. Best Western should do better than this, I would not stay again

"Business visit"
csfieldhouse, 30 Septembre 2018

Excellent customer service with great staff engagement throughout. Food great both breakfast and dinner. Great check in/out again very friendly and helpful staff. Ideal seafront location. Well done BW.

"Very welcoming hotel"
maggiem00min, 26 Septembre 2018

Lovely friendly hotel clean and extremely good value for money. Breakfast was plentiful staff were very helpful. Rooms are very comfortable and clean with plenty of provisions for tea and coffee. Parking is plentiful too.

"extremely disappointing"
savannahamber, 23 Septembre 2018

Judging from the other reviews on trip advisor about this hotel, it seems my brother and I got off lightly. After 2 long flights from Kenya and a failed train ride to Port Talbot from London leading to long drive from Bristol, we didn't choose to turn away when we first saw the sight of what they call a hotel. We walked in pretty exhausted but still keeping an open mind, we didn't want to judge the outside as a true representation of the hotel. We were met (if you want to call it that) by a young lady at the reception, who at first ignored my greeting and then looked up from her computer when she felt like it. The room was ok, they definitely photograph well on their website but they seemed very dated and musky smelling. Too exhausted to venture out we called down to the same lady for the room service menus, she said we need to come down to collect them. We did it thinking that perhaps staff were off duty (still keeping an open mind). When I called down to make the order I asked if she knew by any chance what the soup of the day was. She replied "No I don't know" (customer service at nil). The food arrived, some brie wedges and 2 burgers. Wedges were ok but seemed great at the time as we were pretty famished after the travelling. Burgers seemed to have been frozen and cooked and then reheated as the centres of them were super hot but the outside was luke warm, we were just grateful for a meal at this point. When we finally settled down for an early rest we couldn't even do that because of two yapping dogs in the room next to ours. I understand that this hotel is proud to be one of the few that still allow dogs but perhaps there is a reason why this isn't the trend anymore. A total disturbance. As for wifi, it barely worked. We were booked for 3 nights but decided to promptly check out the next morning. We were greated by a very friendly elderly woman this time, perhaps she would have been a better person to have met the day previously. Don't book this hotel!

"Worst hotel room i have ever encountered"
Kim S, 23 Septembre 2018

The hotel is not much to look at from the outside, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt from pictures online.. The reception area was presentable and the swimming pool looked nice, the room on the other hand was horrendous, it smelt like stale sweat, there were loads of stains on the carpet and the shower holder was broken, which meant having to hold the shower head to spray it on yourself, the spray was more like a trickle.. The cushions on the bed for decor were stained, it was that disgusting I slept on my scarf to cover the bottom sheet and pillow.. I didn't want to make use of the swimming pool or jacuzzi, or even try and eat there because I was so disgusted Will never ever stay in this hotel ever again

"Aberavon Beach Hotel"
joangellsedgwick2017, 23 Septembre 2018

Had one night at the Aberavon Beach Hotel last night. Outside it looks unappealing, tired and run down with very poor signage, if you do happen to drive past and miss it... you've had a lucky escape! The entrance was dirty, covered in cigarette ends and the bin was overflowing with rubbish. We had a room on the front with a Seaview. As soon as we opened the door there was a strong smell of damp, masked only by disinfectant! The walls were damp and a large bath towel had been rolled up and placed on the window sill, something I have never seen in any hotel. We moved the chair by the radiator and the floor was covered in mould which is where the smell was coming from. It was disgusting. My husband went to reception and asked if we could move which was not a problem for the receptionist and we moved rooms. We examined the second room carefully which smelled so strong of pine disinfectant. There were damp patches on the wall but not as bad as the first room. We couldn't find the air fresheners but it was so overpowering we could taste it. We both woke up today with headaches. Breakfast was not appetising, cold coffee and pale pastries but my husband said his cooked breakfast was just alright. I would give this hotel a miss when in this area.

"3 night stay"
27bannerleigh, 22 Septembre 2018

Aberavon beach is a glorious long sandy stretch of clean sand, Port Talbot Steel works can be seen in the distance, but you don't need to look that way !!!!!!!. The hotel is excellent value for money. The evening meals were very/very good. The hotel catered for business guests and coach parties. Unfortunately at evening meals preference was given serving 50 coach people, private guests had to wait. (not good) The main reason was lack of staff, the waiters there did their best, which meant they were rushing round with no time for other guests. One small gripe, I had to ask 5 times to get a bulb changed in a bedside light, lack of staff maybe ? Don't be put off with look of the Hotel building, inside it is very different. With all the above we enjoyed our stay, and will return again.

"Great place "
Darren W, 13 Septembre 2018

Really great hotel and friendly staff would stay here again and recommend to everyone!! The facilities are great a pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Our room was great and just as advertised on hotels.com can't wait to stay here again.

"Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel"
tonypandy, 12 Septembre 2018

we have lunch at the hotel most sundays, in the past it has been excellent but now it is AWFUL bland, cold, half cooked, frozen roast potatoes to say it has gone downhill is an understatement from a good Sunday lunch to a very poor one we will not be going there until it improves

"Worst Hotel Stay ever!"
shaun h, 10 Septembre 2018

Perhaps we were unlucky! Booked three nights to visit local area - Gower etc. The building is awful, our room with stained carpet was tired, bar staff rude, atmosphere nil, breakfast poor - we left a day early it was so bad. We have stayed Best Western around the country many times but this was the only one which needed demolishing!

"Appalled at the service, well no service "
ellie l, 10 Septembre 2018

me and my 3 nans visited the Aberavon Beach Hotel to have tea and cake. Arrived and waited 20 mins to see if anybody would serve us. Reception rang through the kitchen to get someone to serve but nobody came. Left after half hour of not being served, given any menu or even taken into account that we were there. Awful service

"gravy like dish water"
herbiepugh, 09 Septembre 2018

Attended a private function on Sat 8 Sept, had a very basic turkey dinner for food. Potatoes okay, carrots okay but cold, runner beans not al dente but almost RAW! The gravy was warm but was basically just brown coloured water and tasteless. Very poor standard of food, Best Western need to up their game a heck of a lot. We have Sunday lunch out quite regularly and this is one venue we will not be visiting!!!!

"The only good thing about this hotel is the staff"
DBMK5, 04 Septembre 2018

I arrived at the hotel after a very long drive, and to be honest I looked at it from the outside and nearly drove away - I couldn't even see where the entrance was as there is no sign, all I could see was a shabby looking building - I weighed up the options a 4 hour drive home or give it a go , and I chose the later. The welcome at reception was super, professional yet friendly , yes i did change rooms and no i am not someone who does that lightly but i was prepared to pay for an upgrade as the only issue was the stained carpet and the smell but I did want to feel comfortable. The receptionist was very helpful didn't make me feel like a nuisance customer and genuinely cared i was comfortable. The new room was fine , nothing special but ok. I then headed for dinner and again I was met by an extremely helpful member of the team who was very helpful and genuine and made me feel at ease, the service was excellent. The food was also really good - I wasnt expecting that as the appearance of the hotel is so awful but it was home cooked, proper ingredients with the flare of a chef who clearly knows what he is doing. I dont know if the management should be applauded for having such wonderful motivated staff despite working in such an un-motivating hotel or should count them selfs lucky that you have the team that you have. Give them something to be proud of and tidy this hotel up - the location is good the facilities there it just needs some work. If you dont do something your staff will be snapped up because they are wasted here.

"Tired and Shabby."
MrsDay2015, 03 Septembre 2018

Parts of this hotel are in dire need of refurbishment - we stayed in room 321 which was unbearably hot and stuffy and the decor was very tired. However, the room was clean and large. The sofa bed wasn't at all comfortable so do bear that in mind if you're staying as a family. The bathroom door was obviously cobbled together from various spare parts. I've been confidently using doors for the best part of 40 years but this one took some working out...The handle was just for yanking the door open as opposed to being in anyway used for it's intended purpose. The bathroom was clean and although the shower wasn't particularly powerful it at least did the job. The pool was unpleasantly cold, and there are no keys for the lockers. Breakfast was included in our booking rate and the cereal and fruit was plentiful. The cooked breakfast wasn't great, but was at least edible. I've stayed in more hotels than I can count and I've stayed in many Best Western Hotels. This is one of the worst I've stayed in. We decided to book this hotel to break a long journey to Pembrokeshire and thought we'd spend some Tesco Clubcard Vouchers. I have a feeling that's why our room was so dire! I should have just spent the vouchers on gin to make a long journey more bearable. In fairness to the staff - the ones we dealt with were all very pleasant.

"Great Location, Great Price, ok Hotel"
Gorwydd, 02 Septembre 2018

We booked a one night stay at the Aberavon Hotel, as a last minute getaway. Right on the sea front it boasts a great views across Swansea bay & Mumbles, unlike Swansea bay & Mumbles who get a lovely view of Port Talbot! Our room 320 on the third floor had seaviews, it was clean and well presented. We used the pool twice, it's small, alittle on the chilly side but fine for a dip, used the sauna and Jacuzzi both very good. We enjoyed a great selection of food at breakfast, including fresh fruit, yogurt & pastries. The lady serving the cooked breakfast was very friendly and on the ball, alas the young girls waiting on, need to 'WAKE UP!' they were so slow and in a dream, topped with such a grim expressions, really is this how we must start our day? I noticed it was a dog friendly hotel and off season the beach is also totally dog friendly. We had a lovely stay and for the price it's very good value.

"Dirty Hotel both , surely outside and inside. Avoid"
LINDA B, 30 Août 2018

Arrived at hotel on a coach tour. Lots of murmering as we pulled up. I said dont worry it will be ok inside. How wrong i was. We were shown to our bedroom whcih had a double and single bed we ordered a twin room with accessable shower. As we arrived in our room it looked rather grubby. we pulled back the sheets to reveal stain mattress on the single bed, the bed was a childs bed not for an adult. the mattress was stained the bed had a bug inside the bed it aslo had very dirty pillows. It was an utter digrace. My friend went off the the manager he came up to inspect, he said it was ok and this was the normal bedding used. Therefore its ok to treat disabled people as second class because they dont deserve better. It was horrible. We were then informed that they could not give us another room as they were full. we were considering going to the train station and going home. Our coach driver saved the day by giving up his room. he was given another. the managerment t this hotel let us down badly. Im sure they didnt expect two disabled ladies to complain. the meals. it started well then went downhill as the week wore on. burned roast potatoes and raw vegetables served with a turkey dinner. Cajun chicken that had never seen any spices but just plain chicken. one night we waited 45 minutes for our pre ordered in morning first course and a further 45 minutes for the second course. The whole of dinner was ordered at breakfast. One night cumberland sausage that was far from cumberland apart from the fact it was being served to cumbrians. It was pork sausage Breakfast was ok the best meal of the day. No complaints with breakfast. Will include photos of dirty beds. thanks to this hotel our holiday was spoiled as we knew we had to return after a day out. pity as Wales was splendid place and the people so nice. Sam the barman was great he was the best of all the staff we met.

"Booked my wedding!"
chellie252007, 28 Août 2018

A bit of a rocky start as someone double booked our appointment but was more than happy with the package we was offered. This place is dog friendly, right next to the beach, lovely pool and sauna facilities.

"Don't judge a book by its cover!"
Alice R, 27 Août 2018

The approach to the hotel is a bit grim, through a large scruffy housing estate and the building itself doesn't inspire confidence. However, once inside all the negative impressions are dispelled. The room was comfortable and the pool, sauna and jacuzzi well maintained. However the biggest plus is the level of service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were friendly, accommodating and helpful. Rachel on reception and Sam who was serving at the bar were especially friendly and pleasant. We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come back.

"Our recent stay"
Margaret P, 27 Août 2018

Waitresses, bar staff & receptionists were really pleasant but that is where the good review stops! Our room was not at all clean although the bed sheets appeared to be. We complained every day about a. Dirty cups & glasses left in room. B. Bed not made just duvet pulled over. C. Dust +++ on skirting. E. TV remote no batteries or back. F. Dog treats on floor below 'wardrobe' hanging space and there all week & which we took to the manager on our last evening - we don't have a dog so they had been left by previous guests. Food terrible green beans unable to be cut, roast potatoes black and tasted like charcoal, broccoli yellow so not fresh. Slow roasted vine tomatoes not cooked which the chef did admit after a couple of complaints. At least we know onto visit this hotel again.

"Great location!!"
Sue G, 25 Août 2018

Friendly staff and great location. My family and I stay in this hotel as we always have a warm welcome and a great breakfast. Exterior looks a bit dated but interior is fine. All you need from a hotel room.

"Pleasantly Suprised "
Steve O, 22 Août 2018

It's quite a while since I've stayed at a best western and in the past I've never been overjoyed with what I've found howeaver while on buisiness in Neath I booked this nearby hotel and can't fault it. Nice room on the 3rd floor well presented with a sea view. I booked room breakfast abd dinner and even the dinner was good. I'm not usually impressed with hotel fayre but this was a exellent three course dinner and coffee for the money. The restaurant was bright and airy and even with a coach party and a busy evening service was good. I could well be giving best western a try again in the future

"Bit let down. Won't return"
Jason J, 19 Août 2018

We decided to try The Aberavon beach hotel for a few reasons. 1. Dog friendly 2. They accept the Taste card 3. It's a Best western. ( I always use Best western whenever I can) We go out every Sunday but it's hard to find somewhere that will welcome the 3 of us and the 3 dogs. When we arrived I asked if they were still doing a Sunday lunch? I was told yes they were. So we got out seats in the bar area as we had the dogs with us. I went to the bar and ordered drinks. I also asked about ordering food. Sunday lunch. But I was told the kitchen wasn't still doing Sunday lunch also you can't have Sunday roast as it's not on the bar menu. Then I was passed the bar menu. After a few minutes I placed my order and informed the bar man that I had a taste card, and did this entitle me to 50% off or 2 for 1? He replied, you can't use that here. Then he said I mean today, we only accept that Monday to Friday. And you have to book ahead! I informed him that I used it the previous Sunday in the mercure hotel Swansea, without any problem. He replied it's a management thing. So I paid my bill of £37.55. And next Sunday I will return, to the Mercure hotel Swansea.

"first stay near the Swansea area in a hotel , for a short holiday"
chris d, 16 Août 2018

my first stay at this hotel, Best Western, in Aberavon, Port Talbot. all the staff were very smart. well presented, helpful and excellent at their jobs. seemed to be well trained. this hotel is on the sea front, and a short walk across the main road, but safely, gets you to the beach opposite the hotel are a set of private changing rooms for swimmers to use, when at the beach) close by is a fuel petrol station, cinema, swim pool fitness centre and other restaurants. upon arrival, i was given a room access card, and details of the breakfast , dinners times, password codes to wifi , car parking details and check out times, the dining room was large, smart very clean, tidy and well decor/ presented, choices of cooked breakfast, continental , etc the bar was modern, stylish, well decorated and clean, good smart carpets throughout with vent./ cooling fans, seemed also to be cool and with a nice ambient air atmosphere. the room interior was smart, very clean and tidy, couldn't fault that, the bed was very clean, a phone supplied in room, a writing desk in room too. some rooms of course will be with a sea view, the bathroom style and decor , very good, and very clean, a portable hair dryer located in room, and plug in cooling fan, a laundry service also available at the hotel. the only difficulty we had was figuring out in which order we had to use the light switches because 1 switch might operate all the room lights in 1 push, however it wasn't clear initially and we had more amusement and laughter at guessing this, than complaints the hotel had its own indoor pool for guests.2 lifts to access the hotel floors. the wedding seems to offer wedding function facilities, menu choices, and function room. i would be happy to come back to visit, thank you.

"Great sea view."
TeamAnn, 15 Août 2018

The hotel was lovely with some rooms having a sea view. The hotel it's self was great although some of the bedroom decor was a little tired, but when you are only sleeping there you tend to overlook this. The bed was super comfy and the shower hot.

"Comfort and a Welsh welcome on the beach"
martin_strike, 13 Août 2018

We have stayed many times at the ABH. No, it is not the most modern hotel in appearance, but the staff are always friendly and keen to make the stay enjoyable. The hotel is clean and very good value. No its not the Hilton, but this is Port Talbot and like the town, has a charm and identity of its own. The beach is sandy and unspoiled, the ice cream fabulous and the Baked Bean Museum of Excellence just around the corner.

"njh @ Aberafan Beach"
njh60, 13 Août 2018

Staff and Service were great on the whole, though ordered two burgers at lunchtime and they took half an hour to arrive. Appreciate they were fresh, but seemed a little long to wait. Good breakfast. Hotel appearance in need of some tlc. Pool very exposed! Location is great - right on the beach.

"Good But Soundproof Your Function Room! "
Beth R, 10 Août 2018

Great views over Swansea Bay, dinner was good, the bed is really comfy. Shame that the bass line from the wedding party downstairs is reverberating around our room (on the 2nd floor). Soundproof and separate your function room... After 5hrs driving straight from a full day of work the noise of someone else's party is not what we're paying for.

"Certainly not a 4*"
Giulia C, 08 Août 2018

Excellent position, situated in front of the most beautiful beach of the city. The car parking is also right in front of the facility. Unfortunately, our room wasn't cleaned properly. The room was ok, but nothing special (having paid 75 pounds per night). The positive thing is that at least they cleaned the bathroom, though there were leaks in the pipes and consequently a lot of water on the floor. Overall, we feel that the hotel doesn't match the characteristics you'd expect from a Best Western. Off topic: if you want to visit that area, we suggest that you opt for Swansea instead. It might be slightly more expensive, but if we could go back, we wouldn't stay in Port Talbot because, apart from the beach, there's nothing worth the stay, also in terms of services offered.

"Good value"
helenakitt, 29 Juillet 2018

Good location overlooking the sea though on the edge of a rather grim estate and the building itself looks like a 1960s school block. Inside it's been quite well done up however and it has a little swimming pool and spa which we enjoyed. The first room we were given was boiling hot and overlooked the restaurant extractor fan but reception found us an alternative room where we could open the windows and let the cool in. The room was generally OK although the water tended to spray out of the wash hand basin. Breakfast was fairly basic – only sliced bread available for example – although the cooked breakfast was nice and the tea and coffee freshly made. Service was rather ineffectual but the staff were friendly.

"Cosy and comfortable"
bobab, 27 Juillet 2018

An impromptu stay at Aberavon Beach whilst going to see a production in Swansea. The licstion waswpretty much perfect standing just accross from a beautiful sandy beach. We basically had it to oourselves. Do not let the drab exterior fool you, as inside awaits a lovely warm welcoming group of staff, who really care about the quality of your stay. A good night's sleep was had by all, followed by a good hearty Welsh breakfast. We will definitely return again.

"Keep coming back "
Torlus, 23 Juillet 2018

This hotel was built in the 60s and definitely looks it from the outside but dont let that put you off. Its nice inside! Plenty of parking and its included in your stay Right across the road from the beach Nice lounge area with a bar, which has reasonable prices and friendly staff The lifts are small and slow but does the job. Rooms vary in size but all come with tea and coffee making facilities and en suite with bath ans shower. The rooms have been refurbished on the last few years on a rotation meaning some are very recently redone while others were done a few years ago. Food in the restuarant is fine but there are several other places within walking distance that is nicer. Unless breakfast is free, dont pay for it, go to Remo's.

"Food here gone downhill"
PeteCaerdydd, 22 Juillet 2018

Whilst I have enjoyed eating lunch here for several years recent changes in kitchen staff have resulted in a sharp fall in the quality of food provided. New chef is more suited to a greasy spoon cafe!

"Never judge a book by its cover"
Ann B, 22 Juillet 2018

First impression are of a weathered facade and a bit disappointing. However, on Enterying the lobby it is bright and airy and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had a sea view room which we were fine with although needs a bit of a make over. We really enjoyed the swimming pool which was a really good temperature. We dined in the restaurant and was extremely pleased with the meal which was very tasty. The breakfast was ordered from the menu, where there was a good variety including full Welsh, haddock and kippers that again was very tasty. Very good value for money and would recommend it for a short break.

"Wedding anniversary"
Christopher L, 19 Juillet 2018

Well what can I say about the hotel, staff were friendly on the whole . Unfortunately disappointed with food n the restruant during the evening, sauce was so salty, I could not eat it. Service was extremely slow I did complain but no response, as for the room, the carpet was stained but room itself was not too bad. Breakfast was ok. The best part the hotel had to offer. In need of upgrading

"Sort out the WIFI!!!"
Vincent M, 17 Juillet 2018

Every time i have visited the WIFI has been intermittent. Please sort it out. Otherwise, it is a good location next to beach, perfect for a run. The Cinnamon Kitchen is a great Indian restaurant only a few hundred metres.

"Bit of a throw back but lovely people and good price"
MidlandAssessEnergy, 16 Juillet 2018

As I approached through what seemed like an endless council estate having passed the steel works and associated smelly bits I was not impressed by the approaching piece of shocking 70s architecture that hove into view. I parked in the ample parking and found my way in. I was greeted by a delightful receptionist who actually made me laugh. After a 3 hour drive this was more than welcome. The room was quite jolly with a sea view. I then walked the front, on the very strange sea side resort of Aberavon. One way smoke stacks with strange looking emissions the other way really pretty. The Beach itself is amazing. There is a good looking ice-cream parlour. The Pool is basic. Dinner was quite good. The Bed was soft and a touch dished, could have slept better with a better mattress. Breakfast was ok. I only had half a slice of black pudding though which was a touch mean. Orange juice could have been better.

"Firs class"
831jdav, 08 Juillet 2018

Went there as a group didn't look to good when we arrived in the car park from outside. The receptionist was Very friend got room pass surprised I had a large double roomThe only complaint the shower took a long time to get hot water through.Lovely cooked breakfast and evening meal also swimming pool and hot tub.

"Poor "
maria9989, 07 Juillet 2018

When we pulled up to the hotel we were surprised it looked like a block of ex council flat. But the inside was fairly well presented in the foyer. However the room was so hot it was unreal and I asked for a fan as I have a small puppy and it was too hot for her. They're service pledge is " if something doesn't meet your expectoration let and know we want to fix it" when i asked for a fan tje receptionist said they dont have one i asked to change rooms they said no i said well is tjere anything you can do rather then cant and again the amswer was no. It was hotter in the room then it was outside!! And to top it off they set off a practice fire alarm at at 12:00am. Not impressed would not return and they do not uphold they're own service pledge avoid if you can

"Excellent hotel"
Kompo, 05 Juillet 2018

Having booked well in advance, we had secured a good price for this hotel. It would seem that the accommodation has had a recent makeover, and we were very happy with the room and comfortable bed. The bathroom had a shower over the short bath, and was a good size, was clean, and functioned perfectly. It would seem that most rooms have a view of the sea or the mountains - the top floor (floor 3) would be best for views, though we looked eastwards, towards the steelworks! Arriving in exceptional hot weather, we found the curtains open and window closed, which meant that the room was very hot, and took a long time to cool down. There was a fan provided, but we had to run it all night, and remove the duvet from its cover. There was no fridge in the room for cool drinks. Breakfast in the hotel was good, standard hotel fare, and we had freshly cooked Welsh breakfast and smoked haddock brought to the table. The indoor swimming pool and changing rooms were clean and fresh, although the pool was strongly dosed, and the sauna was not functioning on our visit. The car parking was easy in the hotel car park.

Doesn't look much from the outside, once inside we was greatly impressed, large bar area with friendly staff and good food, outside seating which was particularly welcoming as it was exceptionally hot.. the pool was very warm which was a slight letdown.. a good base to explore many beautiful places, not really much to do if you fancy a drink and a wander outside the hotel.. very pleasant hotel with nice rooms

"A Beach Front Hotel"
Geoffrey B, 28 Juin 2018

We stay at this hotel primarily because of its location. I always want to give a higher rating but feel restricted by in many cases matters that could easily be put right. On arrival the outside appearance of grounds and car park is scruffy with a lack of TLC. Litter is always unacceptable to me and clearing should be a daily matter especially outside the front door. The building looks terrible but this should not put you off as once inside appearance does improve. Some of the public areas do however suffer from a lack of TLC. Our rooms :- 114 faces the back and has views of the hills. The room itself was very clean and in excellent order although we did have a bit of trouble with the light switches. Would book this room again. 112,118 and 124 all however fell short with dirty carpets, damaged curtains or curtains not hooked on to their runners. The pool is clean and warm so don't forget your "bikini" This hotel does not come up to the standard of a Premier Inn ,despite being similarly priced, but could quite easily do so. The staff could not be more helpful and Sam is a gem. The food in the restaurant is always good and not bad in the bar either. The buffet breakfast is always excellent and promotes a good start to the day. We have booked again for next year and have found that this is advisable. Hope to have clean carpets and hanging curtains at the very least. Come on Best Western. Can do better.

"Great location"
Alison Robert N, 25 Juin 2018

We stayed here for one night and on arrival the receptionist was very helpful and we were quickly given the key to our room. The room was very nice and had a large lcd television and tea and coffee making facilities. There was also a bath and an overhead shower. The hotel was very close to the sea front and also to Burger King. All in all a good nights stay

"We were a group of walkers and had first class treatment"
Gillian G, 18 Juin 2018

Good comfortable rooms, sea views, good food, pleasant staff and clean rooms with comfortable beds. Dogs allowed in bedrooms and bar. Very nice large swimming pool and spa with good changing facilities.

Hi my mum went there over the weekend. 15 June. Food was very poor. grease pool breakfast. Diner was tasteless pre cooked rubbish. Room was old dated and dirty. Pool was excellent. Staff where lovely. Downstairs was clean and tidy.

"Lovely Family Holiday!"
Remi S, 09 Juin 2018

While the hotel might indeed be a bit dated, it really is a lovely place and we had a great time with the kids. The beach being right on the door step and the Cinema next door were certainly excellent bonuses. The bar man gave excellent customer service and all in all, we had a lovely 5 day stay. Thank you :)

"Terrible"
anonymousQ7209SD, 08 Juin 2018

I went away for a 2 day break, my partner couldn't make it. At breakfast a waitress shouted at me ' you can't sit there! that table is for a couple!' then elaborated, 'a couple with a dog' ! Clearly the couple with the dog who weren't yet present had more entitlement to that table than I did. There;s equality for you! and that's just one complaint about the place. Avoid. This is a hotel for people working in the Port primarily, and staff aren't equipped for hospitality. The exterior looks like it's part of the parking lot. They give one towel for sauna (in a bad state, but extremely hot, wood stains the towels) and jacuzzi, to get another you'd have to go into the lobby to reception. Staff inexperienced in hospitality, including management . Awful experience, put me off Wales completely. Left as soon as I could, without eating breakfast. Awful hospitality.

"Family secret"
EssexPhoebe, 03 Juin 2018

If you drove past this hotel you would probably not look twice at it but it is great. It is hidden in the industrial part of Port Talbot but it is 2 mins from a wonderful sandy beach and every convenience you could want including swimming pool on site and cinema, pub, convenience store, children's adventure playground a few minutes away The building looks tired from the outside but inside the rooms are fine and food is good. You are minutes away from the middle of Swansea and a short ride from the Gower, Cardiff and a bit further the Brecon Beacons. Absolutely perfect for a family holiday or even a couple. Join the Best Western Reward scheme and prices are amazing

"Get past the exterior appearance!"
Andy M, 01 Juin 2018

This hotel came on a recommendation but despite this when we pulled up we were wondering what we'd done ! But once inside this is a nice hotel, all clean and tidy, but dated in places, but staff and provision of swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, and proximity of sea outweighs any negatives.

"2 night break"
LilliS_Wales, 01 Juin 2018

Stayed at the hotel on a 2 night break, rooms are clean but need updating, the carpet in the our room needed cleaning or changing it was badly stained. Public area's spacious, with a large bar and comfortable seating. Staff friendly and helpful. The pool is a little small and not just for the use of residents as most days it had private swimming lessons for children which made it awkward to use. Had a meal in the bar, had beefburgers, which were too thick and dry. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, but unfortunately my husband waited for 40 mins for his cooked breakfast which when it arrived was very good. If you are not happy to be around dogs don't stay at this hotel, far too many dogs. On our first night fire alarm went off on two occasions thankfully not serious but sleep disturbed. Day 2 decided to rest after lovely day, but someone, we think had left their dog in the room which wined and barked for about 1/1/2 Hours. We reported to reception but they did not seem to know which room the dog was in. Quite an eventful 2 days. However the Hotel is good value for money and in a pleasant location overlooking a lovely beach,it is near to Swansea and the Gower area, which is well worth a visit.

"Superb service staff and well kept rooms/dining area, including vegan and GF options"
JL S, 29 Mai 2018

Really enjoyed our stay and felt the staff were very accommodating. The barman and waitresses (with kitchen staff) were excellent at working around allergies and very helpful with vegan/gluten changes to the menu :). The proximity to the beach was super for family walks/play too. Room was a good size for our family (2+2 littles). Would visit again!!

"Weekender"
Caspar54, 25 Mai 2018

We stayed here recently for 2 nights bed and breakfast in a sea view room with bath and shower. Fortunately the weather wasn't too hot as the rooms tend to get hot and sleeping is a bit disturbed. The breakfasts were very good and the food was cooked as we like it. The reception ladies are always very polite and friendly and we also made use of the indoor pool.

"Don't judge a book by its cover"
windmillfan, 04 Mai 2018

I would never have thought that I would spend the night in the Port Talbot area and say afterwards that I liked it, but I did. Once you've driven through the industrial zone, you get to the Aberavon beach area, and that's actually not bad. It has a nice beach, and around the hotel there are restaurants, coffee shops, fast food places, etc. The beach has a view of Swansea Bay, and it has a good promenade and lots of sand - not a pebble in sight! A stone's throw from the beach is the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel. The exterior isn't going to win any beauty prizes - it's a big brick lump of a building, and could easily be mistaken for an office building from the 60s or 70s. There's a good parking area for free parking. And things get better once you get inside. Modern interior with a somewhat retro feel. Reading other reviews clearly not to everyone's taste, but we didn't mind it, and at least it doesn't look neglected, like other Welsh Best Western hotels we've visited. The room was fine as well - neutral decor, good furniture, and everything you need. Good bathroom, too. Comfortable bed. And apart from a few carpet stains it was clean. We were traveling with our dog, and we've seen a lot worse - some hotels only give dog owners the crappy rooms, but this was not one of them. Wifi was quite good, I was able to do what I wanted without serious bandwidth problems. A nice bonus is the spa. It's not the most luxury I've seen, but I don't think any British spa is going to compare with what I'm used to in the Netherlands, so in the UK I'm looking for the bare minimum: functional, sauna, steam room, swimming pool, and preferably no maintenance problems. Well, this spa meets my minimum requirements. And the conservatory-type ceiling makes it nice and light, which has a pleasant effect. The only disadvantage I can think of is that the spa opens quite late - 9 A.M. If it were aimed at use by hotel guests, it would make more sense to open at 7, but the hotel has chosen not to do that. As a result, you'll find that mainly locals use the spa - I was the only hotel guest using it, the times I went. This isn't a luxury hotel, and I don't expect it to win any architecture prizes, but you get quite a lot for your money, and you get friendly service from the staff, so what more do you want?

"Definitely needs some tlc"
Sandra W, 30 Avril 2018

My hubby and I stayed here for a one night stopover on our journey from Somerset to Milford Haven. The location is great, we were able to have a lovely early evening walk along the beach with our dog. The room was ok, had everything we needed and was clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the bartender who was really entertaining. We didn't have an evening meal but breakfast was good - I would have liked some fresh fruit though! I felt sorry for the staff due to the condition of the hotel building - especially externally - it's a run down 60's building which needs a lot of money spent on it!

"For a Lions Convention"
Christine R, 29 Avril 2018

A very enjoyable stay, despite the terrible weather on our arrival. Lashing rain and near gale force winds. Very warm and comfortable. Staff are very welcoming with nothing too much trouble. We were lucky enough to have a sea view, but the rain and wind wasn't welcome, making it difficult to see the sea! What a difference the next morning with lovely sea view.

"Started Well and Went down hill rapidly"
jon6151, 21 Avril 2018

We came here for 3 night stay a week ago and was greated by a lovely bubbly Welsh lady who sadly I forgot her name but was blonde and in her 50,s if I'm so bold to guess. She was funny and made us feel so relaxed and as I I was our Anniversary got us a Sea View room at no extra cost . We had a drink in the bar and the black barman there was again fun and welcoming and made us feel welcome. The room was ok until you wanted a shower in the morning...... firstly it was just Luke worm and with no pressure at all. We informed reception who by the next morning we had scolding hot water and still no pressure .... I wasn't sure which one I would prefer to endure.!!!!!! Then we had breakfast !!!!!!! My god the worst I have ever experienced. Day 1 - sausages were so hard and eggs overdone having waited over half an hour to arrive Day 2 - waited 15 minuets for a pot of tea. Avoided the sausages this time to have rock hard overdone bacon. We waited ages for the food to arrive. Every one was complaining -I was told by waitress it's a different Chef every day -sorry . To be fair they all seemed depressed having to work in an environment filled with complaints about the cooking which I guess effected there service levels with just providing Tea !!! Day 3 - I thought I would try scrambled egg this time but that was burnt. Danish Pastries had run out with 45 mins of service left . I asked but were told sorry we don't have any more only to see a corporate event an hour or two later with what appeared to be an offering of pastries. On departure I told reception I wanted a refund on the breakfast costs but was offered the email of the Manager to write to!!!!. I note a previous reviewer had been lucky and obtained a refund. To be honest I couldn't be bothered as I felt so incensed by the lack of care I thought they can jolly well receive this damning but fair review in the quality of service at the hotel. I'm sorry but it's true. If you enjoy a good breakfast and a relaxing shower then don't come here . But the bubbly receptionist and the Barnan was great. The restaurant next door to the hotel served great food and great value for money . Jon P

"Relaxing Visit "
Christine W, 11 Avril 2018

We stayed at the Aberavon Hotel which is facing Aberavon Beach. It is a lovely place and popular for walks and sea activities. The hotel is comfortable and pleasant. Our room had been recently decorated. We had a sea view which was great. You can often sea surfers in the sea. Reception were friendly and helpful. We have been a few times before and will go again. The hotel itself is an ugly 60s building in need of some TLC. The grounds and shrubs also need some attention but it's in a great setting by sea and we will visit again.

"OLd but worth visiting"
Jillian C, 08 Avril 2018

We like Best Wester Hotels but this one is the best we have ever stayed in because the staff are so friendly they make our stay one to remember. Breakfast is very good & is always served with a smile. For lunch/evening meal you can choose to have a bar meal or eat in the dinning room & again the staff are only too happy to help. The Aberavon is a dog friendly Hotel & is located across from a lovely beach so if you are a dog lover like us, its idea for walking with your dog. We have stayed at Aberavon Beach Hotel twice now & have enjoyed it so much we will continue to stay there when ever we visit that part of Wales.

"Improving but staff holding it back"
whitey1962, 05 Avril 2018

The car park having been tarmaced recently was a great improvement and I looked forward to seeing what else had been done. The receptionist was efficient and jolly and I was processed without delay. However my room was above the air conditioning units and was already very noisy even with my window closed. I requested a different room which would be quieter. After 10 minutes with the Manager the receptionist offered my an alternative room but couldnt let me have both keys to move my luggage instead I had to go fetch it and return to reception and then put it into the new room. On the third floor. So the room was good and everywhere looked like attempts had been made to spruce the old place up. However the bad bits The shower managed to get to a full force dribble after 10 minutes and you had to literally stand under it to get wet. not good Breakfast was the biggest let down Day 1 I didnt get what tea as ordered instead coffee and specified items from the full english ended up being a full english Day 2 nobody approached me for 10 minutes and 10 minutes later my tea arrived and 30 minutes after that I left the room still not having been served scrambled egg and a hash brown On exiting the hotel I told the receptionist who didnt ask for specific details but took the cost of a breakfast off my bill So some improvements but not good staff wise

"Excellent base next to lovely beach"
EdwardsRSD, 04 Avril 2018

We spent a lovely few days here. The outside looks dated but don't let this put you off, the inside is lovely. The room was very clean, beautifully decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable with good quality bedding. Breakfast was wonderful with a good choice of continental or cooked options. It was a bonus having a pool onsite. We will definitely stay again.

"Enjoyable stay"
J150505, 02 Avril 2018

We stayed here a few days ago and had an enjoyable stay. We've been here a few times over the years and always receive a warm and friendly welcome. Staff are helpful. The bedroom had been redecorated a few months ago and was fresh and clean and we had an excellent view of the sea front. The bar meals were pretty good and service was fast. The only significant gripe that we had was that we couldn't pick up a WiFi signal in the bedroom which was inconvenient, but we could get a good signal in the bar, restaurant and reception ateas. The hotel has a good location on the sea front with good views of Swansea Bay to the west, and the Steel Works to the east. There are three restaurants within 300 yards of the hotel if you decide to eat out.

"Good Location."
gwraig66, 30 Mars 2018

Hotel is in a great location, being near the seafront. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I stayed at the Hotel from Monday - Wednesday at the beginning of March. Had a Sea-View room, very spacious and clean. The Hotel can cater for people who have a diet restriction - eg: Coeliac which is Gluten Free and my meals were excellent, staff always checking that my meals were Gluten Free.

"Credit card"
cjp0208, 30 Mars 2018

No complaints with the food, all had a lovely lunch. Just the service is so bland and poor, make you feel like you shouldn't be there or they don't want you there, had a 'huff' when we asked if anyone was coming to the bar and then looked up and down when asking to pay. The blonde lady who we paid with, I want to say her name was 'Mair'??? walked off with the credit card and did a contactless payment without showing the amount or even asking if she could do it, just a simple 'beep'. They need to be taught what they can and can't be doing

"Aberavon Beach Hotel"
Amanda W, 27 Mars 2018

Lovely staff, excellent room and service generally Breakfast was superb. Brilliant location, will definitely be back , especially now I know that dogs are welcome too. Public bar is a very pleasant way to while away some time and there's even a swimming pool

"Afternoon Tea"
Marie D, 27 Mars 2018

I came here with my mother for their Welsh Afternoon Tea which I had booked two weeks in advance. This consisted of a choice of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, tea cakes and bara brith. When our tea was brought out, we were told there was no bara brith so they had substituted it with Danish pastries. Neither my mother or myself like them but didn't have the heart to tell the guy as he seemed so pleased with himself. I thoroughly enjoyed my two scones but when my mother went to get hers, there was only one left? Three scones between two people is very odd? We also had beef sandwiches instead of ham or cheese which I had asked for. We did enjoy the food but won't come here again as we didn't get what was ordered.

"Seen better seen worse"
MKTD, 24 Mars 2018

Hotel is in a good location on the sea-front at Aberavon. Check in was quick and efficient. There was a homely feel in the downstairs bar area, helped greatly by very friendly and engaging staff. We stayed in a family room which was large with a decent television and comfortable beds. The buffet breakfast was hot and the staff were helpful. The swimming pool was clean and a good size with a jacuzzi and sauna. That's the good points but there are negatives... The outside of the hotel badly needs updating. The interior of the hotel feels dated and worn around the edges. The bedroom carpets were stained, power points not working and fixtures worn out. The shower leaked out of the bath causing a flood. There was a mysterious clanking around 6am each morning which woke everyone up (presumably from the heating system. Some of the food was of a poor quality (either re-heated or frozen) and the juices were either watered down or poor quality. The weekend we stayed there appeared to be a brass band being hosted by the hotel, who used a function room to practice. The noise was horrific, and continued until 7.30pm on Saturday evening (and again on Sunday morning). We could not hear ourselves think - a hotel with guests is no place for a large brass band to practice especially with young children trying to sleep. Absolutely disgraceful that the hotel allowed this with paying guests staying at the hotel. The situation wasn't helped by the thumping music from the pub next door at midnight.

"Abearavon Beach Hotel Great"
JohnD871, 21 Mars 2018

Very welcoming and provided a very good value for money. Had two rooms over looking the beach. It was also a great view of the Harbour Cranes which one of my family used to drive. Car parking was easy and the hotel was located in an ideal location.

"mothers day meal"
markgrandon62, 13 Mars 2018

As a family we have been going there for more than 20 years. Generally the food has always been very good. This year however i think it fair to say that the majority of the 25+ people in the family were very disappointed with the meal. There was not enough beef on the plates , the Yorkshires were small and obviously the cheap frozen ones which were really chewy. There was no cauliflower cheese or enough of a selection of veg..Most of the starters looked tired and pathetic and the dessert was slap dash. Definitely not worth the £20 per head. Only thing in its favour was the service was excellent. this bill for our family came to over £500., excluding the bar bill. Needless to say after all these years my family will not be returning next mothers day.

"Not the best"
welshgirlm, 13 Mars 2018

Booked for 3 nights from the outside was very outdated, inside was presentable enough WiFi was supposed to be complimentary however it was not working and didn't work for the whole duration of our stay, our room was tidy and clean but the carpet was badly stained in areas and the bath leaked causing the outside carpet to get wet the towels were very rough and upon replacing them they didn't leave enough fresh towels. There was an event on that night and the whole place was incredibly noisy thankfully it was quiet well before midnight it's ok if your staying for a few nights but not longer than that

"tired hotel "
Adrianp67, 12 Mars 2018

the hotel is very tired and should be knocked down / refurbished. the staff are polite but the food is very basic and average quality. there is no gym and swimming pool tiny, the local beach is nice and youh can see the steel works from the hotel

"Mothers Day Meal"
willtravel6062, 12 Mars 2018

We went to The Aberavon Beach hotel for a Mothers Day celebration.Still doesn't look great from the outside but don't be put off by that. The food in the restaurant was really good and the staff were excellent as usual.A very reasonably priced menu which we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definately return.

"Disapointed"
IAN K, 02 Mars 2018

Arrived yesterday (1st March) on the coldest day of the year to be told there was no heating or hot water. Restaurant evening menu had very limited choice but that didn't matter as it was closed anyway. Had to order evening meal from bar menu and even that had items not available. Awoke the next morning to find still no heating or hot water. The bath was tiny and the shower dribbled out, again this wasn't too much of a problem as there was no hot water anyway! The only positive I can find is that my room was very clean and I had a very good nights sleep. Room on 3rd floor.

"Better inside than out"
caroljuliejones49, 24 Février 2018

On arrival we sat in the car thinking of not staying, it needs a facelift on exterior, but to be Fair the rooms are OK , comfy beds clean not bad at all would stay again don't be put off by the exterior on arrival it is better inside

"Going back"
Shimmy192, 23 Février 2018

Looks very old and dated. It was a little. Didn't eat here so cannot comment upon that. Bedroom carpet was fawn in colour which was great for showing up all the dirty stains and marks. Particularly where people had missed the bin with their tbags - leaving a lovely tan colour deposition, plus other marks throughout. There was a little mould in the bathroom- along the sealant. Entrance ceiling had a large crack on it- needed filling and repainting to make it look nice, not been done. Surrounding area to back of hotel a little different to say the least- not the hotels fault I hasten to add. An experience that I will not be repeating- but the view from 3rd floor was good anyhow- good positive.

"Avoid at all costs, hotel not fit for purpose."
JasonB4333, 15 Février 2018

Upon arriving at this hotel, I was given room 120 which was a sea view room. This room had black spot mould from the top to bottom of the walls and along the ceiling. There was also mould and dirt all over the area of carpet closest to the window. Wall paper was also coming away from the walls throughout the room. Upon attempting to use the shower at 2.45pm on the 1/2/18 and at 7am 2/2/18 there was no hot water. The taps were left on from 10 minutes to try and reach a warm temperature. The mattress topper was also stained. This room was totally unfit for human habitation and should have not been let in this condition. In additional to this significant issue with the condition of the room this hotel demonstrated a complete lack of hygiene standards. Upon using the bar area for dinner on my first night there was crisps over the chairs I sat on and around the floor, and stains on the majority of the chairs in the bar and restaurant area. Upon attempting to use the pool area I was advised that there was no means to lock the lockers which firstly is unacceptable because there should always be means to secure your belongings in a hotel pool area and secondly this meant that when I attempted to use the changing rooms all of the cubicles and the 1 bench were full of people's clothes making it impossible to get changed. I was not asked for any feedback on my stay at the hotel when I checked out. I would never return here and strongly advise choosing a different hotel when visiting the area.

"Dated exterior pleasant surprise inside"
Caroline M, 11 Février 2018

A quick overnight stopover to attend a business meeting the following day nearby. The outside looks awful and could be easily remedied with a facelift. Each side of the entrance was a pillar where smokers had left cigarette ends and empty packets (no bin in sight) so not a great first impression. The reception area and bar was nice enough. The room was clean and comfortable. I had a lovely swim in the pool and a sauna and jacuzzi. We ordered from the bar in the evening - and the food was nice with generous portions. We chose this hotel as it was dog friendly and we felt that overall it was a good choice.

"Pleasantly surprised"
Kaye T, 10 Février 2018

The hotel looks incredibly tired from the outside, but didn't let that put you off. We had a fabulous few days as part of a dancing group. Could not fault the hotel, staff, food or cleanliness, in any way 5*****'s. We have already booked to come back

"Ok"
Christine S, 06 Février 2018

Stayed last Saturday for one night. It looks a bit like a prison from the outside. Our room I think had been recently decorated it was quite pleasant. Throughout the night it was so noisy, soundproofing must be non existent and the room was very stuffy. Breakfast was very good. Cereals, cooked breakfast, toast etc.

"Welsh weekend "
Shonaghmur, 06 Février 2018

Arrived early and couldn't check in till 1.30 but that's fair enough as rooms had all been used the night before. The rest of my family arrived and we were checked in a little bit earlier. The rooms were sufficient and spacious, with a great view, although could do with a fresh lick of paint and some tlc. Housekeeping staff were amazing at turning your room around each day. Shower pressure and temperature wasn't so great. Breakfast was tasty each morning, option for full and/or continental. Lunch menu was all you needed, with light bites and sandwiches. Spa facilities were great and well maintained, guests have the use of them as and when between 9am and 9pm. Would deffo stay again, staff friendly and accommodating nothing too much the bother for them.

"Nicer inside than out"
steadyslack, 26 Janvier 2018

Warm reception greeting. Think I booked a double bed but got a twin. Room was a little confusing as couldn't work out the lights which were illogical. Hard bed, nasty pillows and lifeless duvet. Clean carpet but bad stains. Cigarette burn by plug hole in bathtub! No aircon. No trouser press. Nice towels. Good breakfast. £54 not bad though. May try somewhere else on next visit.

"Nice stay"
alycat41, 13 Janvier 2018

Stayed here many times but returned yesterday for a family funeral. We had a sea view room which was very adequate, clean, comfy bed, nice bathroom etc. The hotel is worn from the outside but inside very nice. Lovely bar and food to a good standard. The only problem we had was the WiFi connection in the room we had. Otherwise great value for money,

"Weekend"
Caspar54, 12 Janvier 2018

Spent two nights here in November and had a good couple of days. Reception were very helpful when we asked to change rooms due to a noisy fan on the roof outside our room. Breakfast was good and I would just like to mention the fact that the car park has been completely resurfaced and marked, what a difference!

"Not disabled friendly!"
Jan M, 08 Janvier 2018

This review is based purely on a phone call I made regarding accessible rooms. The receptionist didn't know what I meant when I enquired if they had any! After I explained my husband has mobility problems but can walk a little and needs a walk in shower and toilet rails she told me they have just one room which is a long walk from reception down several corridors . I said this was a strange place to put a disabled room but she replied that as most people use wheelchairs it wasn't a problem!! I gave up at that point and said I wouldn't bother! Come on Great Western you can do better than that.

"Shed on the outside, great Inside"
corben38, 07 Janvier 2018

On arriving, like others have said, the hotel isn't good. Old and tired. Inside was a real surprise. Nicely decorated, really friendly staff and food and drink at good prices. The hotels position to the beach is great and due to the time of the year, our 2 dogs could go on the beach and also allowed in the hotel. Food was very good and the breakfast at £11 each was a little expensive, but was very good.

"Place of refreshing"
Mary H, 07 Janvier 2018

Feeling unwell pre Christmas booked a break for early new year. Delightful stay, swimming pool, sauna and hot tub ensured some gentle leisure, while the room offered glorious sea views, plus great size tv. Food was excellent, service top notch, already booked next trip

"Right on the Beach"
523geoffc, 07 Janvier 2018

Looks can be deceptive. This looks from the outside to be a 70's block of flats! Inside its a comfortable, tidy Hotel. Also dog friendly too. For walks on the beach and promenade it is well placed. Been here for a couple of stays and would return.

"Always a pleasure"

My heart sank a little as I drew into the car park - the building looked like it had seen better days and I imagined my experience would be grimly British Seaside 1960's. How wrong I could be! My bedroom and the interior generally was comfortable, warm, clean and well decorated - almost plush in parts, in that slightly strange, heavy style beloved of many hotels. Front-facing windows have broad sea views. Staff, especially in the restaurant, were friendly and efficient although the service to our meeting room was a bit hit and miss. Buffet lunch and dinner portions were generous and the bar offered at least one real ale on traditional handpump. Although it obviously faces some maintenance and repair challenges and the external architecture reflects the worst of the period, the hotel retains some attractive 1960s-70s internal features. It seems to be a popular venue for conferences and, judging by the Christmas parties in full swing, for community events and office do's. So don't be put off by appearances!

"Ugly looking building but pretty good sleep"
apdelgado, 26 Décembre 2017

Can't say it was the nicest looking hotel I stayed in but the beds were really comfortable and the showers hot so a good place to recover from a long drive. The building is a 70s square block. Good value for money.

"Quick business Trip"
Pyof5, 19 Décembre 2017

I stayed here for 1 night on a lightening fast business trip to the UK. Friendly and helpful staff, clean room and good food. The full breakfast was perfect. Not sure if I will ever return to the area but if I do I will definitely stay here.

"Overall good"
Mikethewelshone, 17 Décembre 2017

Had a lovely stay but had a few issues which did not effect our stay. &0's night was really good and enjoyed the singer. Nice hotel, staff food and accommodation. Would stay again and recommend to others

"Relaxing stay"
Ching Wah L, 12 Décembre 2017

It was a great experience, as the booking included breakfast, which was nicely presented. The decor of the room was fine, and internet worked perfectly. Toilet and carpets were clean and tidy. Will definitely come again.

"Work Xmas Do"
welshpricey, 11 Décembre 2017

Our works do the previous week had been cancelled as there weren't enough people attending, but the hotel transferred the all inclusive deal to the following week. The room was satisfactory and after a night with lots of alcohol we slept very well. The food that was served was pretty average but edible. The entertainment, which was Fat Barry's Soul Band was awesome. We spent the whole night on the dance floor. We thoroughly enjoyed our night ????????????

"Christmas works party"
ruthy1976, 10 Décembre 2017

Lovely stay enjoyed the entertainment prices are ok at the bar the Christmas dinner was lovely the staff were helpful not the most efficient though. The room was clean a little dated though needs a uplift but comfortable. Wasn't keen on the cooked breakfast but there was plenty of choice of pastries, cereals and fresh fruit. The lady at the reception was lovely very helpful and friendly, my only snag was being on the top floor the water pressure in the shower was slow and the water could have been warmer, enjoyed my stay will come again.

"Average"
Dai_Swansea, 09 Décembre 2017

Booked a room at the hotel as we were attending a Christmas party which included an 80s and 90s tribute band. Little did i know that the evenings theme would be replicated upstairs in the bedroom ! Clearly dated and needing some investment but the hotel was good value for money and if they upgraded a notch and put the room rate up i would suggest occupancy would drop. Staff were neither attentive nor rude, a bit like this hotel - average

"Good value"
billi160, 08 Décembre 2017

Hi stayed for 3 nights on a winter special deal.hotel is in a great position.the staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble.rooms nice and warm, comfy beds and a great breakfast every day.will certainly be going again

"Buffet in the Ballroom"
AmandaNeath, 08 Décembre 2017

This review is solely for a buffet we had at a family function. This was three weeks ago, and I have previously contacted the catering manager, who did respond saying he was looking into it. That was two weeks ago, and I have heard nothing more. This is why I'm posting here to warn others. The buffet was £11.95 a head. The choice was limited, but it seemed ok. I also ordered separate meals for the five children attending. The buffet was laid out, but no sign of the children's meals. When I enquired where they were I was asked whether I wanted them then. I replied, of course. I couldn't understand why they would think the children should be served after the adults had started eating. They still did not materialise after approximately 15 minutes, and I had to ask again. They still did not appear for some time. There was indeed some sandwiches and some quiche left at the end of the night. The food was unappealing. I had one sandwich (still don't know what the filling was, tasteless), part of a not fully cooked chicken drumstick and a tiny slice of quiche. Some of our party did not eat at all, apart from some tortillas. One did not eat due to being unwell, and two did not attend. Had the food been appealing, and had everyone partaken in the buffet, then there certainly would have not been an adequate amount of food. The buffet itself was very poor value for money. Following are the complaints: Sandwiches poorly filled. Overall taste of spread. Unsure of the fillings as not labelled. Beef tough and inedible, if thats what it was. Inadequate number of tortilla wraps. No Spiced Chicken fillets. There was chicken in batter, but flavourless, and frankly looked like something one might buy from a generic frozen food supplier. Chicken drumsticks, some not thoroughly cooked. Crab cakes, again inadequate number. Potato wedges were just large chips. Vegetable quiche was adequate. Inadequate amount of cheesy Tortillas. Im not expecting to get any further response. This hotel is part of a very large chain, my complaint is nothing to them. I just want to warn others.

"Great place to stay"
Celia M, 05 Décembre 2017

Ideal hotel to explore South Wales. Very near Cardiff, which is always fun. The hotel is very clean and comfortable even though the rooms are a little dated. Great breakfast The staff are fabulous, they really make this place.

"Mostly Good"
paulnorthyorks506, 26 Novembre 2017

I stayed ay the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel and the staff, food were really good. The Leisure facilities of a pool, Jacuzzi and sauna were most welcome. The food was good too. Plenty of FREE parking and good internet access. The only criticism would be that the shower in my room was poor. The pressure was weak and temperature adjustment inaccurate. Also on the particular evening I used the Leisure Facilities noisy children and their accompanying adults reduced the "Relaxing" factor.

away-from-home-2250, 22 Novembre 2017

Had four nights here whilst visiting the area. The place does not look good from the outside but the accommodation is OK. Location is very good and convenient. Staff helpful and friendly. Would have liked to use the pool but there seemed to be childrens swimming lessons there all the time.

"Sunday lunch not even worth 1 star"
sparkeyjack, 22 Novembre 2017

I have never posted a review about the standard of food in a restaurant before but the Sunday roast dinner served as part of a 3 course meal was absolutely disgusting. On the menu it stated topside of Welsh beef. We were served a small sliver that was mainly fat and gristle. To cut a long story short the replacement was just as bad so we just gave up as time had gone on.and requested a refund of £15.50 that we were charged. I can't believe a chef would allow such poor quality to leave his kitchen. By the way I have just learnt that they are only offering a refund of £10! One place never to visit again

"Another night away"
WanderingRailman, 22 Novembre 2017

Booked the hotel and was a bit concerned after a few recent reviews, but as a platinum member thought I would give it ago. Look past the 70's facade and you will find a perfectly resonable hotel. Clean tidy and very friendly. Room was as I'd expect from this level of hotel. Ate in the bar and the food was good, especially the faggots. Sam behind the bar was friendly and efficient. Had breakfast, was fine, staff did not have the happiest faces I've seen in the morning, but efficient. Overall would be happy to stay again whm next in the area on business.

"Great hotel with friendly helpful staff"
angelajane2016, 17 Novembre 2017

Very comfortable hotel with sea views. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Extremely reasonable rates. Free parking ,wifi and hospitable to dogs. May not be the Ritz but a lovely room and great value for money.

"Comfortable nights stay "
Tamsin T, 15 Novembre 2017

Fantastic location I loved being so close to the sea. Staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful. The food was tasty with a good selection of meals and beverages. The room was ok - it was comfortable and that is all I needed really for a brief business trip. I do think that the walls, carpets and furnishing could do with a bit of a refresh as it is all looking a bit tired and dated inside and out..

"Disappointed "
wayneantlee, 15 Novembre 2017

Hotel feels run down. Limited bar menu. Rooms tired. Ok stop for a night if on a really good deal. Nowhere near Premier Inn standards. Didnt use pool might of improved my opinion of hotel. Wont be returning. Reception was friendly if a bit disorganised. Bar poor.

"Such helpful hotel staff - not!"
KimSH, 14 Novembre 2017

I rang to check availability for two nights next week. The phone conversation with the reservation person didn't start well. I said I was looking on the Booking.com site and it was cheaper than the hotel's own site. She asked what dates I was looking for and I said I thought it was 21 Nov for two nights and it was next Tues to Thurs. She said they didn't work on days, only dates. I assumed that a hotel reservation desk would have a calendar handy to confirm the date to me, but no. She gave me a price of £144 for the two nights. I said the same room was available on Booking.com for £122. She said she couldn't match it! Ridiculous!! She was happy for me to book elsewhere and let the hotel pay a booking fee to the company as well. Needless to say, I have not booked this hotel and have found alternative accommodation.

"Welcome to the 1970's!!!"
simondcooke, 14 Novembre 2017

When I arrived at the hotel I walked in and asked if it was here that I was actually staying as I had been told it was a nice hotel. When I got to reception I was pleasantly surprised as they've put a bit of effort into that. It's clean and has been modernised. I couldn't however get over the fact that you can watch people swim whilst you check in. My surprise continued at lunch when I discovered that you can watch people swim whilst you eat too!!! Walking up the stairs to my room I could see that they've obviously spent all the money downstairs. The wall paper is hanging off the walls and it looks like it's not been decorated in decades. The room wasn't much better unfortunately and you had the choice of boil or freeze with the heating. The shower was a dribble and a luke warm one at that. Needless to say I won't be returning. I've given it 2 stars not one as it's slightly better than hotels I've stayed at in Eastern Europe!!

"Second time around"
Richard R, 13 Novembre 2017

This is the 2nd time we had visited this hotel, it was just short break. We had room with a view being at the front overlooking the sea which we did have the last time we visited. We were there for a rest and having a few lazy days was bliss even being in the swimming pool. Staff are very friendly and helpful well worth a visit.

"Excellent staff, excellent place, great for kids"
377nickyh, 04 Novembre 2017

I've visited this hotel with my two 6 year olds several times this year. We really enjoy it, the staff are really helpful and friendly, breakfast is lovely, rooms are very spacious. The swimming pool is great for kids especially if we are blessed with the usual welsh weather. It's in a perfect location for long walks and for children to play.

"Aberavon Beach Hotel"
Alex J, 03 Novembre 2017

Good value for money hotel. Don't be put off by the exterior. Similar quality to a premier inn. Breakfast a little pricey for what you get. Small pool and sauna available for guests. Pet friendly and friendly staff.

"Reasonable price"
David R, 02 Novembre 2017

one night stay Staff seamed friendly and helpful Room clean and tidy had a good sleep, got in late so no food and £11 For a breakfast is a Joke so went to Local Morrisons And had a really surprisingly good Breakfast for £4.70 will stay there again but Don't think I'll Bother eating there if thy charge that much for Breakfast.

"Friendly Staff"
glenslot, 01 Novembre 2017

Had to visit the area on occasion of a family bereavement. When the staff found out, they were very helpful and supportive on changing bookings. My daughter and grandson came with me and nothing was too much trouble, and Sam, (one of the staff we have met many times before) was very supportive. There is a swimming pool on the premises which is just right for children but there is a new leisure center next door (literally) with (I think) a 25m pool and a gym. Will always stay here when in the area. Do not be put off by 1950's appearance outside as the inside is quite modern with large flat screen tv's in the rooms.

"What a pity,,,,,,,,"
derrick s, 31 Octobre 2017

We really love this hotel, but this time a little let down. We always have a nice room with a sea view, very happy with that, but this time the weather must have beat the hotel. We had room 120 on the first floor, warning signs the window in the corridor had a soaking we towel across the bottom! In to the room and the smell of damp was there, with yet a towel across the window, just walking up to the window the carpet was not just damp but soaking. Part off the wall paper hanging off with the damp ,,,with mold. We asked for a different room and was given 119, which was much better and dry. Just before lights out my wife noticed the curtains looked odd. Middle of the night you could see why! One had black out cover and the other side nothing. One other little bit about the hotel, most people write about the out side looking bad, But in fairness to the hotel, there is not a lot they can do about that,But since our last stay the car park has has a complete make over. It would be a improvement if the hotel could clean the old cigarette ends of the floor near the front door. We love this hotel and the staff are great, so this review is almost cutting my own throat. BUT a little bit more attention to small details would help. Ps have written to the manager but no reply, also there was no way the cleaners would not have noticed the room, so why was it passed?

"Great for business stays and for everyone who likes good value above pretension."
Rickanstis, 30 Octobre 2017

A really excellent choice for convenience and for an easy, relaxing stay. Plenty of free parking, easy access, good fast wi-fi, pleasant staff everywhere, nice bar, straightforward and delicious menu, quiet but interesting seafront surroundings, pleasant restaurant, and good value throughout. Great for business stays; and for everyone who likes good value above pretension.

"Good at the price, great location"
Gareth E, 26 Octobre 2017

Hotel right at the seaside - with perfect sandy beaches nearby and great views across the bay to Swansea. Good if you can get it at a reasonable price. We enjoyed free use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and sauna - all included in the price. For that I reckon it to be good value. Plenty of places to eat nearby, all for a reasonable price.

"Up and Downs"
boscoast, 26 Octobre 2017

Yes, it looks ugly from the outside. Not sure why Best Western haven't bothered to try to recifty this. Not only does it let the hotel down it also lets the area down. The beach front by the way is lovely, long and sandy. Plenty of cafes etc Reception is modern and clean as is the bar. Breakfast just ok, basic, there was a strange damp smell in breakfast room which was a bit off putting. The reason for only 3/5 though is the bedroom. Very dated, carpet was dirty and net curtain also. On inspection I was pleasantly surprised with the bathroom until water began pouring on top of my head through the ceiling light in the bathroom. The manager came and inspected and simply said it was coming from the shower in the room above. I would of appreciated being moved to a dry room as I was concerned about my son using the bathroom with the potential danger that can arise from water and electric. Judging by the water marks on the tiles the bathroom ceiling, it was not the first time this had happened. I would stay here again but only in an upgraded room.

"An excellent welcome with a comfortable stay and great food"
ConsumerBloke, 14 Octobre 2017

Having travelled from London for a business event in the area, I was worn out, tired and I thought a little cranky. That was until I arrived at the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel. It's often said that first impressions count and the welcome I received at reception helped me forget about my tiring journey and business commitment. I walked into my room and as can often be the case in chain hotels with their loyalty schemes, a welcome letter was waiting for me. The difference with the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel was that if I presented that letter to the bar, I would be given a complimentary drink of my choice. If I was already forgetting about a tiring day, this gesture was helping me relax even more! Having not eaten for hours, I also chose to dine at the hotel choosing steak which I prefer blue. It was cooked perfectly and the friendliness of the bar staff matched that of reception. In fact, my only 'criticism' of the hotel was the bizarre layout of my room, but that cannot warrant them losing any TripAdvisor 'blobs'. Many congratulations to the staff. Their work in helping me forget an utterly tiring day makes me say without hesitation that I wholeheartedly recommend the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel to others and would undoubtedly stay there again.

"Overnight stay "
Matthew C, 14 Octobre 2017

Lovely location opposite the beach, Amazing overnight stay, room was lovely and clean with all needs catered for,the staff are really friendly and the food was lovely, I would definitely stay again and bring the kids next time as there is a pool at the hotel.

"Better than expected"
TG58, 09 Octobre 2017

From the outside you could pass by the building not even realising that it's a hotel as it is so plain and warehouse looking, but, don't let that put you off. It is right on the seafront with many places to eat and things to do on it's door step, cinema, leisure centre and shops to name but a few. Inside the hotel is clean, the staff were very welcoming and helpful and the double room (for single occupancy) was very spacious and clean with tea and coffee making facilities and large TV. I travelled with a Meetup group of 44 people and we were catered for very well. Breakfast was ample with yogurt, fruits, juices, cereals, pastries, toast, jams and cooked hot food as well. There is a pool and sauna and a bar. My room was unfortunately above the bar and there was a wedding party so it was quite noisy but once I went to sleep I was ok and the bed was very comfortable with nice clean bedding and towels. The room was quite hot but I was able to sleep with the window open. All in all it was much better than expected and I enjoyed my overnight stay.

"1st visit to Port Talbot"
Penny T, 03 Octobre 2017

As mentioned by other reviewers, don't be put off by the external appearance. It's completely different inside. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we had the unexpected bonus of a sea view, staff were on the whole friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, but we had one evening meal there and wouldn't recommend it. There was only one vegetarian choice - spring vegetable risotto and, although I can't remember exactly how much it was, felt the price was exorbitant. There were a lot of steak & chop recipes on offer, but my husband didn't really want any of those, so was left with very little choice. The restaurant was pretty empty in the evening, and it's not difficult to see why. The other thing we found offputting is their food hygiene rating was only a 1!! However, everything outside the kitchen seemed quite clean and we didn't go down with food poisoning!! However, we also ate in the bar and, although the service was quite slow (and it was very busy there, as opposed to the restaurant), this was a much better menu and value for money. The spa was on the small side, but perfectly acceptable. On the whole, we were satisfied with our stay there and would definitely go again.

"Weekend break"
phiggins54, 03 Octobre 2017

We stayed in the Best Western nights recently and had a room on the first floor with a lovely sea view. Breakfast was good and served as we ordered. We didn't have the opportunity to use the pool though perhaps we will on our next visit.

"A tired hotel"
Mike A, 03 Octobre 2017

Visited here in chilly March. The hotel is positioned on the sea front and the view from the hotel is great, apart from the steelworks. The rooms are in need of a refresh, draughty windows and dated. The restaurant was good, excellent service and the food was good and reasonably priced.

"Isabel C"
Helen M, 02 Octobre 2017

I was part of the party who were with Isabel C when the incident that she reported happened. Upon checking out the issue was addressed and sorted to our satisfaction, good customer service. The bar staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast is adequate, great to have a pool on site too.

"Very strict receptionist "
Isabel C, 26 Septembre 2017

This is very average hotel but when a group of people are just having a laugh, which is causing no dispute to anybody else, is asked by the receptionist to quiet it down, really need to question their business ethics. There were only 1 group of men sat in the bar at 9.30pm when we were asked to be quiet. It was a laugh which lasted no more than3 minutes & we were told be quiet. I really think the receptionist needs to consider where the bulk of the hotel's business comes from!!!!

"Helpful & friendly staff"
kirstielou, 23 Septembre 2017

Great hotel - don't be put off by the exterior, once you walk through the door you'll soon forget your first impressions. Rooms are a good size and mine was very clean with plenty of towels and extra pillows. Internet was a little spotty on wifi but the manager allowed me to use the office to plug in online so I could get a stable line and get some work done. Ordered food from the bar to my room and it was delivered quickly - good value Breakfast was great - continental is buffet style and cooked breakfast is cooked to order which makes a nice change from other hotels and means the food is hot and fresh. Every member of staff I encountered was friendly and helpful and I'll be returning here regularly now whenever I need to be in the area The beach front is literally across the road and gives great views over Swansea bay - I caught a wonderful stormy sunset the night I stayed

"Bad first impression"
catherine s, 22 Septembre 2017

Beach side hotel.....your first impression will be to drive by as the hotel almost looks closed and very rough exterior. The inside however a complete surprise....warm and welcoming. Staff very pleasant. Room well a bit dated was clean and large. The lobby and the lounge are modern. Lounge menu was great for supper. They have a large dining room well appointed. Lots of parking. There is a lovely boardwalk. Right next door is a leisure center and cinema.

"Wonderful weekend in Wales"
Barbara J, 21 Septembre 2017

We arrived on a wet Friday afternoon. Don't be put off by the unimpressive outside. There was plenty of parking and we received a warm welcome at reception. We were immediately impressed by the large lobby lounge with its views of the indoor pool. We had our 3 Grandsons (12, 4 and 2) in our party. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. On the Saturday, we were unexpectedly joined by 4 little cousins all under 5, the hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. When I ordered afternoon tea for us all at the bar, the gentleman couldn't have been more helpful. I kick myself that I didn't get his name! He opened up the conference room so the kids could run around without disturbing anyone and their parents could relax. I would recommend the tea as well. We had the Welsh version. We loved the buffet breakfast - plenty of choice and the bar snacks/meals were great. We didn't eat at the restaurant but the menu looked inviting. The rooms were big, clean and comfortable. The beach is wonderful and we look forward to returning in the summer to make full use of it.

"On the sea front"
MrsAholidaymaker, 21 Septembre 2017

Not much to look at from the outside but smarter inside - especially the public areas. The rooms are getting a bit shabby though - ours had a stained carpet and chipped furniture, and the window let in water during a heavy shower! However, it was very clean, a reasonable size, sufficient storage and comfortable beds. A bonus was the front sea view. The lighting arrangement was a bit odd - for some reason it was impossible to only have one of the bedside lamps on at a time without also having the wall lights over the bed on as well! Not good if you want to sleep and your companion wants to read. The dining room is spacious and there is a large choice of breakfast dishes - cooked to order eggs, bacon etc. plus kippers and more. The dinner menu was not as good - limited choice and rather expensive - and no daily specials or changes over the 5 days we stayed. There is also the option to eat in the lounge bar at more reasonable prices, although we had rather a long wait when we chose to do that - I suspect diners in the restaurant took priority - understandably. There is an indoor pool for which towels are provide - it looks good but cannot comment on the temperature as we didn't actually try it. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. There is a large car park so this is a good base for visiting South Wales but there is not much in the vicinity so could not recommend a stay without your own transport. Tip - the Four Winds bar and restaurant is next door to the Hotel and serves good meals at reasonable prices.

"Great Hotel"
U5071JNsandrad, 18 Septembre 2017

Staff were very helpful, the room was very comfortable and clean with tea and coffee, had a great sleep and lovely view over the beach. I will be returning to this hotel in the very near future for my next trip for sure.

"Don't be deceived by outside appearances"
karen p, 17 Septembre 2017

From the outside the hotel looks very tired and dated but inside it is fully renovated and very clean and comfortable. It is especially nice to be able to relax in the sauna, pool and Jacuzzi an added bonus for a budget priced hotel. Breakfast was good but we did not eat in the hotel for dinner as the menu is overpriced but there is a good choice of other good restaurants within walking distance.

"lovely vist"

we have just come back from a bowls tour and stayed in this hotel.i thought it was very good staff very attentive rooms very clean and comfy. The food was plentiful and very tasty.Would come back again.

"Always a Good Stay"
Belpol, 13 Septembre 2017

We have stayed at this hotel on four occasions over the past few years both as a couple and as a family of 8 and always found it to be comfortable, staff very helpful and polite and the food good. This is why we have returned again.

"Lovely room and views!"
Robert H, 11 Septembre 2017

Great location and parking by the beach! Looks tired from outside! Some staff are more enthusiastic than others! Rooms nice and clean! Comfy beds! Breakfast good selection but bit slow service and poor cleaning tables this time! Overall I would stay again as previous stay was great and this one wasn't too bad!

"ugly on the outside, gorgeous on the inside"
teresawebster10, 10 Septembre 2017

On the outside it looked awful and we wondered what we had come to, but on entering we were blown away with the beauty of the place. Airy, well lit and beautiful furniture. Our room was on the first floor, we had booked a walk in shower if possible, and we got that plus a lot more besides. Two bathrooms, my mothers wasn't over large, but it had a moveable chair for her to sit in and wash herself and a walk in shower and a proper disabled toilet, whilst I had a bath in my bathroom and my own separate toilet. The room was large and airy, good wardrobe space and two nice chairs to sit in. Meals were lovely and plenty of choice, all staff were neatly turned out and well presented and well trained, and OH, how nice to hear Welsh voices, other times we have visited Wales and found the staff to be polish. What a joy, to find locals working in their own hotels. The only criticism was our chambermaid could have been a bit better, but otherwise everything else was fantastic, I give the staff 1000% for all their service and helpfulness that my mother and I received there.

"Surprised"
Jaypgee, 10 Septembre 2017

Stayed one night at the Aberavon Beach Hotel, On arrival I thought "Oh. dear !".... the outside of the hotel doesn't look very inviting, but never judge a book by it's cover ! The hotel is lovely, very clean and tidy, set right on the beach, and very quiet overnight, just perfect. I was booked as sole occupancy but given a lovely double room. Bed and pillows comfortable, wide screen TV , coffee and tea making facilities, plenty of room. Nice clean bathroom with shower over bath, complimentary toiletries. Bar and restaurant very spacious and nicely furnished. Being part of a coach party I was offered a set menu, but the food I had was delicious and nicely served. The hotel is dog friendly. There were several little dogs in the bar area but caused no problems whatsoever. The staff were friendly and helpful. A comfortable overnight stay, thank you.

"Ugly duckling is a swan"
alison bamford, 06 Septembre 2017

As per other reviews don't let the exterior put you off. Very helpful reception staff altered our twin room to a double with sea view on arrival. Off to a good start, room although a little dated was spotless. Nice breakfast. Great location with small indoor pool. Will come again

"Brilliant"
Sally B, 03 Septembre 2017

Our first impression was disappointing from the outside, but as we went into the hotel, that all changed. Very clean and modern. We had booked a four night stay. Ann on reception was very kind and helpful. We took our dog and although our room was not a sea view, it was large and comfortable. The t.v was the best we have ever had in a hotel, clear picture and a good sound. We had a meal in the restaurant that evening, which was good and all the staff serving us were so attentive. The breakfasts were excellent, with plenty of choice from fresh fruit, croissants,to cooked ,you name it they had it. I would say it was one of the best breakfasts given to us in The Best Western Hotels, and we have been to quite a few now up and down the country. We ate in the restaurant every night , with the exception of one ,when we had room service. All are meals were nicely presented and plenty of it. So don't be put off by the exterior look beyond it, although it could do with a coat of paint, and perhaps ,also upgraded in some bedrooms. We really did enjoy our stay, and we would like to thank all the staff for making it so .We hope to return in the near future.

"Great opportunity to take the dog too"
Cavvie11, 31 Août 2017

We stayed for a couple of nights and although the exterior needs attention as mentioned in other reviews, this is a very nice hotel that allowed us to take our dog. Could not fault the staff, rooms or food and we didn't feel ripped off by bar prices as is sometimes the case in this standard of hotel. Although we could not take the dog into the restaurant we were able to eat in the bar next to it. The staff were very accommodating and it was a real treat to take our dog into such a nice hotel. We will definitely return and recommend to anyone wanting to visit the area.

"It's what's on the inside that counts! "
businesstraveller811, 31 Août 2017

Wonderful wonderful wonderful! Despite the outward prison style building it is truely lovely on the inside. All of the staff are welcoming, charming and a delight to chat to. The pool & sauna was a great bonus and it was incredibly clean. Not a stray hair or bandaid in sight. The rooms are well kept and maintained. Despite not eating at the hotel the price and range of the room service menu and restaurant looked fantastic. We also had a great sea view which sweetened the deal. Would 100% stay again.

"THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Aberavon Beach Hotel. The staff are very friendly and polite. Room was very clean and spacious. The Hotel ts in a prime location for many attractions - Beach / Promenade, Leisure Centre, Cinema, Restaurants, Shops. The Hotel is definitely value for money and I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

"Good value, great location"
Lynne R, 20 Août 2017

Perfectly acceptable mid-range hotel right on the beach with super-friendly staff who went out of their way to make our 2 night stay as enjoyable as possible. Breakfasts are substantial and tasty too.

"Not what it looks like! "
MagdalaJo, 19 Août 2017

Our hearts sank a bit as we approached this one - it looks a bit like a prison or a school from the outside and could really use some TLC on the outside. There was a lot of litter and people loitering around smoking in the car park. But inside was totally different - warm and welcoming and our rooms were spacious and very clean. Good view of Aberavon Beach from the rooms too. Breakfast was average and not very impressive but adequate - the haddock was watery and full of bones. We ate in the bar for dinner having ventured next door to the Four Winds and run away fast, and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Don't judge a book by its cover, would use this one again as great value for money.

"Good stay"
ace4enfield, 18 Août 2017

The hotel may look austere from the outside but walk though the doors to a warm welcome. Room was spotless and comfortable. The restaurant served breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was continental or full Welsh plus extras, kippers, salmon and scrambled eggs. Dinner was a limited quality menu which seemed to change monthly. For extra choice a bar menu was available again quality of choice. The bar area was a friendly place which as did the hotel welcome dogs. With the exception of the bar manager who had his own agenda all staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was enjoyed An enjoyable stay I hope we will return

"Hidden treasure with an unpolished exterior"
Torlus, 17 Août 2017

As you drive into Port Talbot it doesn't look like a holiday destination as you pass the steel works. But the roads are wide, without potholes and relatively quiet. As the hotel comes into view you think other buildings of the era have the windows boarded up. But fear not, it's just from a bygone era, there is nothing wrong with it! In fact the inside is quite modern. Lots of places to sit and relax. Rooms are comfortable. Lots of hot water in the bathroom. Not all modcons inside, but there's everything you need including a kettle. Lovely beach just across the street and endless views. Great for strolling along.

"A Golden Wedding Celebration"
bernardr745, 14 Août 2017

The family were meeting for an evening celebration and everyone had booked at least one night at the hotel. The party was in a private room with a four course meal. The food was excellent - all tables were served promptly with delicious, hot food. There was plenty for even the largest appetites. The staff were attentive and couldn't do enough to please. After a very comfortable night, we all had a very good breakfast, from an extensive buffet, before we said our goodbyes. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend!

"Great Value "
Sunworshipper1980, 11 Août 2017

Booked a night here with family as we were attending a funeral in the area and looking for somewhere cheap to stay; we booked two rooms - a double and a twin. The hotel doesn't look very impressive when you arrive but we parked easily, the lady on reception was friendly and helpful and we were quickly checked in and up to our rooms. My room was basic as expected for <£60 for a night but had everything I needed - comfortable bed, decent shower, TV, a place to hang my clothes and a kettle! We didn't eat here, instead choosing to go to the Four Winds next door (which was actually fantastic and I'd definitely recommend!) but we did have drinks and again no complaints, we sat in the pleasant bar area for a while before going out and enjoyed reasonably priced drinks served by a really friendly bar man. There is a pool which we didn't use but it certainly looked decent and I wished I'd packed my swimming costume. I'd definitely stay here again for a budget trip; it's clean, comfortable and in a good location with ample parking.

"Past its best western"
newlogmember, 06 Août 2017

This hotel is in dire need of some TLC . The Staff could not be more helpful or knowledgeable but building was shabby and leaking . On arrival the weather was appalling and rainwater leaked constantly through the window seals and onto the sill into my room and windows in corridors . The whole underside of the sill was damp and soft and I had to use towels to stop water dripping inside. The corridor carpets looked as if they had been damp and not fully dried and the toilet in my room dripped water constantly from the cistern . I relayed this information to the staff but no effort appeared to have been made to address either problem before I left 2 days later Breakfast on the whole was good with a wide range of food. I ordered haddock and poached eggs the first morning but didn't realise I had to get my own toast so the food got cold while I waited inline for the toaster . The second morning I discovered that some of the prunes had started to ferment. I informed staff immediately but other friend of mine arriving later for breakfast complained that the prunes were fizzy so evidently no one had actually removed the bowl . There was a small swimming pool which was clean and bizarrely in full view of the restaurant and lobby. There were only 4 lockers inthe chAnging room and although I was given a key I would have had to remove someone else's clothing and place it somewhere else For the odd night I think the hotel is well placed for the beach and journeys to porthcawl / porth Talbot.if you want to do lane swimming use the local leisure centre . I think £65 / night for a single person was steep for what was actually offered

"Nice hotel"
nicolaE694QO, 31 Juillet 2017

Nice hotel right opposite lovely beach. Staff very friendly and helpful. On site pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast very good lots of choice. Great location for exploring further up or down the coast as well.

"Really enjoyed"
James R, 31 Juillet 2017

We chose this hotel for a family get together for Sunday lunch as my wife had entertained there on a number of occasions. Food was really good and Louise and the girls looked after us really well. Must say the hotel looks very drab on the outside but once through the door that all changes James.

"Late booking "
lynneb2008, 31 Juillet 2017

After an awful experience at a previous hotel I was forced to find somewhere else to stay at very late notice. (11pm in the evening) we found this hotel at a reasonable price basicly a lot cheaper than the previous hotel we were meant to stay at. Anyway we arrived at the hotel at 11.20pm and were very impressed with the reception and the service. The room was spacious and clean and the beds although twin beds were large and comfortable The bathroom was clean tidy and fresh.after a refreshing nights sleep we went down to breakfast where the staff were very helpful and efficient. You could have a continental breakfast or a fully cooked Welsh breakfast which we opted for. Very high standard breakfast with prompt service. Very value for money. Would highly recommend. Although the outside of the hotel looks like something from the 50s/60s don't let looks deceive you as when you get inside it is modern and has charm. Really enjoyed my stay. Inside there is a swimming pool which was a shock as I wasn't expecting that but was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely be staying there again thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

"Interior better than exterior!!"
juleshart2017, 31 Juillet 2017

We were worried when we pulled up as the hitel does look shabby but the staff were welcoming and the interior was clean if not a little tired. The breakfast was great with a good selection of cooked items as well as continental style items.

"Lovely short stay"
suejdavies1958, 22 Juillet 2017

Spent 1 night with my grandson. As previously mentioned not a pretty looking hotel from the outside, but we had a very good room with a sea view, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with complimentary shampoo, shower gel and soap. Bar food was very good and the drinks not overly expensive. Very close to the beach.

"Enjoyable Stay."
Jill W, 20 Juillet 2017

We enjoyed our two night stay here. Our room was clean and tidy with an excellent tv and lots of channels. The Welsh breakfast was really good- hot and freshly cooked. We enjoyed dinner in the pleasant, spacious dining room. The fish was particularly tasty. All the staff were really helpful and.polite.

"Fabulous View"
julie r, 20 Juillet 2017

We booked this as we have a dog and this is a dog friendly hotel.. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance,( no disrespect) but it does not do this hotel any justice, as the inside is very nice, the staff are very nice too and breakfast is only £5, there is an area where you can sit with your dog and have something to eat and drink which is a bonus, I was quite surprised how lovely the promenade is and the beach,( which is not dog friendly between May - September ) but there is a smaller beach at one end which is dog friendly all year round, have booked again for October

"Average hotel"
Sabin B, 19 Juillet 2017

The hotel does not look neat and clean if you see its entrance from far away but is neat and clean feom inside. Food rating 3.5 but do not know why. Lady on reception professional but not welcoming, may b she already had enough for the day...average breakfast with very helpful staff serving it.wont mind staying in again. And yes the swimming pool is also acailable if you wish to use.

"Brilliant "
Derrick S, 18 Juillet 2017

The place when you arrive looks terrible (as you see from the other reviews). But go inside and it's a different world, the greeting you get from all the reception girls is a pleasure, all seemed to be pleased to see you and helpful, The inside is modern (but needs a slight clean up) The rooms are a little dated now but still a pleasure to use. Apart from my shower and after 4 days I could not get a decent temperature. The indoor pool is a delightful and we'll worth using. As I stay in the area quite a lot of times well worth travelling the extra to get to it.

"Afternoon tea"
Joannie88, 14 Juillet 2017

Well, after attending a few parties at the hotel over the last few years, which I enjoyed I was asked by my mother to take her for afternoon tea. I quite looked forward to it as it's a lovely venue. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed by what was served to us, especially compared to other afternoon teas I'd been to. Nothing was homemade, the quality and quantity was not good at all. I can't possibly recommend this to friends and family unless things change in the future.

"just don't..."
L A, 13 Juillet 2017

Terrible smell, terrible guests, terrible rooms, terrible swimming pool, terrible place. To be fair the working personnel was great. I will never again visit this place. The surroinding scenery was good though only in a visual level because the smell from the nearby factories is destroying the natural quality, Visit only if you are retired with nothing else to do and nowhere else to go and stristly British.

"A lovely hotel, don't be put off by outside"
a W, 12 Juillet 2017

The 1960s exterior is slightly worrying on arrival as is the uneven car park surface, but in this case, please don't judge a book by its cover. You will have a pleasant surprise upon entering. Always a smile and friendly welcome from Rachel, the receptionist, nothing is ever to much trouble for her, she is a credit to the hotel. This isn't a super modern hotel, rather a traditional, warm, clean, friendly place with comfortable rooms, some of which have fantastic sea views. I find the rooms to be larger than the many hotels I've stayed, so plenty of space to move around, and Tv's and chairs in room to relax. The bar and lounge area is modern, clean and a relaxing place to enjoy a meal with friends or simply drinks. They also do room service. There is an indoor swimming pool or you can just relax at the poolside, if you just want to chill with a good book. There is a communal computer that you can use in addition to the free WiFi. There is a lift or stairs up to the rooms. They do weddings and functions here too if you are thinking of a family get together. Next door is a modern leisure centre, a cinema, burger bar and an Indian restaurant up the rood. There is a pub along the road, and a spar shop if you need bits and bobs. Across the road you have the Lido which is great for young children, with a skate park, and swings and climbi g frames, bars and restaurants and takeaways. If you are a negative thinker you will focus on the view of the steelworks a few miles up the road. If you are a positive thinker you will focus on the beautiful bay in front of you, promenade walk, and views over to Swansea, mumbles and beyond. There is a bus service that will take you directly to Mumbles and a train station a short taxi drive away. This hotel is a hidden gem, which is why we keep returning

"first visit but not the last"
MichaelW032, 10 Juillet 2017

found this hotel on line, booked as we had been looking to go to Aberavon for some time. The hotel does not look attractive from the out side, but all changes when you walk through the doors, we were met by a nice friendly lady called Ann, who quickly booked us in gave us our key and a brief explanaition of the important times of eating and the facilities available.our room overlooked the sea, and was very clean and well furnished and decorated. This hotel welcomes visitors with dogs,

"The worst Sunday Lunch in Europe!"
jackarmy1071, 09 Juillet 2017

I had to meet a female Client here on 9 July. She suggested we had Lunch here! When we went in the restaurant at 1.15 p.m. there was FIVE people in there! I thought Oh Oh! Sally had the home made vegetable soup to start; I had the pate! Both were fine! Then came the Sunday Lunch! Oh my God, the beef was covered in a brown oil that was supposed to be gravy; the veg consisted of sliced three inch thick carrots, mounds of them, pale roast potatoes, even more loads of boiled potatoes, rock hard cauliflower florets - no greens, e.g. peas, cabbage! The beef was pre packed, and you couldn't have cut it with a laser! Tough as old boots! They seem to go for quantity over quality! Where did they get the 'Chef' from? All in all we agreed it was utter Rubbish! As we paid for the debacle, we noticed next door in THE FOUR WINDS the car park was full and a young couple passed us by and stated NO ONE ate Sunday Lunch in the Hotel anymore as the FOUR WINDS had a carvery and an alternative Sunday Lunch menu! Our mistake! Don't set foot in the place for Sunday Lunch As I write this I'm still chewing the meat! Ha ha!

"Great hotel"
Faye C, 02 Juillet 2017

We stayed here July 2017. Great welcome when we arrived. Had a beautiful room with fantastic sea view. The room was immaculately clean & modern decor. The bar area was lovely & quiet so we could chat. Breakfast was delicious following morning all freshly cooked & very well organised. We've stayed here before & it's a great place to stay. Highly recommend.

"Cold food"
Stephen I, 02 Juillet 2017

Stayed 01/07/2017, bithday stay, decided to eat at theach Restaurant, wrong choice, 20 covers in there this night, waited 45 minutes for food, ordered Salad instead of chips for my partner and myself Dauphine Potatoes, both meals came with chips, staff told us the meals come withrough chips but we didn't want them, steak was nice, bit into a Mushroom and it was cold told the Waitress who then got the bar manager, I asked him to touch the food to show that I was telling the truth, nothing done about meal. Carpet in room 106 sgained and it was a twin, want be goingreat there again especially for food! Ps Mushrooms on the breakfast where cold too, don'the have the Mushrooms!

"Afternoon Tea"
William R, 27 Juin 2017

Visited today after booking afternoon tea. Food was excellent and too much, staff were very attentive but not overbearing Would recommend this and will go back, something under our noses we had ignored till now living less than two miles away

"Hotel "
m1ack, 25 Juin 2017

What can I say about this Hotel. It was perfect. The facilities / food and more importantly the staff were 10//10 . I'm wheelchair bound, plus we had our dog with us. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Ok could do with a bit of tlc on the outside and car park. But don't be put off. Definitely recommend

"Lovely stay"
Spoton856, 22 Juin 2017

Lovely hotel with friendly, welcoming welsh staff. We took our dog and we're given a sea view. The pool was lovely and warm and the jacuzzi was the nicest we have ever been in. The room and whole hotel was spotlessly clean, food from the restaurant was very good and overall cannot fault one thing. Really good for the price paid and will definitely return.

"Nice."
Lezthomas, 19 Juin 2017

Went for Sunday lunch here and wasn't disappointed.Friendly staff, warm surroundings and a menu not overly fancy and cheap at 2 courses for £9.99.Plenty of parking and a fantastic location make this a perfect place during the summer or winter.

"Girlie catchup"
melp66, 10 Juin 2017

Today i visited the aberavon hotel for a catchup with my friends from Swansea and we were so disappointed. I live locally so we chose to go here for afternoon tea, big mistake. The barman(Ashley) was very rude and abrupt, hardly any staff on so took ages to take our order, then it came out in dribs and drabs. I ordered beef sandwich if you can call it beef, it was a load of fat. After complaining i had another one(took ages to come out) it was so rare it was almost mooing on the plate so sent it back and asked for a refund which i waited for about 15 minutes before having to go up to the bar and ask for it. Some of the staff at this hotel need a good lesson in customer service, will not be going here again and i will not be recommending it to anyone. In future i will stick to going to Swansea .

"32 years on, still a great welcome "
Sue N, 10 Juin 2017

We have had a really difficult 18 months or so, and I wanted something special to celebrate our 32 wedding anniversary. We were married in 1985 and were the first couple to have a reception at was then the Hotel Executive. I'd also had my first ever summer job there as a chamber maid. All those years on I can't praise the staff highly enough. We had a smart, comfortable room overlooking the beach, where, which was really peaceful despite a storm raging outside. We had a three course dinner at the Greenhouse Restaurant. The food was superb and the service was so friendly that we felt at home and really cared for. A good night's sleep was followed by a delicious breakfast and a swim before we checked out. The only criticism I can make is that the Internet access is pretty poor, but considering how refreshed and happy we felt that didn't really matter

"VERY DOG FRIENDLY"
chiefswifteagle, 08 Juin 2017

Stayed with 4 Chihuahua's which were made very welcome. Perfect. Exterior of the hotel very run down but full of Welsh warmth and friendliness. Requested a sea view room which we had at no extra cost. Highly recommended.

"Friendly"
dapper1954, 07 Juin 2017

From the outside it looks dreadful ,but inside is lovely ,could do with some tlc ,but its clean ,staff are so helpful ,we have stayed before ,and were so pleased to see this area of aberavon being regenerated ,as the beach is gorgeous ,weather wasnt on our side ,so didnt get to explore , but a lovely place to take a brek

"Substandard"
tomtom197688, 01 Juin 2017

Very unimpressive hotel. I am terribly sorry to say that we will not be staying here again nor recommend it to anyone. Positives: the hotel is reasonably well located close to the beach. It is cheap. The pool area (apart from sauna being out of order) is very well maintained. Beds are comfortable. Requires improvement: this whole place is like stepping back in time. Quite far back. It needs updating. The worse part was probably the breakfast. Not the food, it was as expected, but the service. Four (at times five) uninterested staff members. Not a single smile, check back or offering further options. All of them standing in one corner leaning against the wall. It had created a very comfortable atmosphere. We eat very quickly and could not wait to leave the restaurant. The evening menu is terribly limited. We asked where is it worth dining in the area. Everyone recommended Cinnamon, an Indian restaurant close by. It was amazing! Outstanding service, brilliant wine list and pretty good flavours. Overall: next time I will try and do a better research when booking a hotel.

"Weekend break"
phiggins54, 31 Mai 2017

We booked the hotel due to its proximity to our relatives and the price. The downside is that the outside looks extremely tired and weathered, needs a coat of paint. The car park would appreciate resurfacing (surface is rough and uneven, space markings worn away) That said, the inside is a different class, nicely decorated and very welcoming. Our room was fine for a standard room and the breakfast had good choices and very nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we will look forward to our next visit here.

"Outstanding hotel"
Steven B, 21 Mai 2017

I struggled to find accommodation at short notice for a visit to Swansea, and this hotel could fit me in. The hotel is right on the front in Aberavon and has plenty of parking available. There is a cinema next door, burger king and a retail park nearby . The hotel is not pretty from outside but once you get inside it's another story. It's very nice indeed. spotlessly clean and very friendly staff who seem genuinely interested in talking to you unlike many other hotels who just go through the motions. The bar area is lovely and has some amazing staff who really know how to engage with their customers. The room was very comfortable, clean, lovely cosy beds, great shower. I did not try the breakfast or eat here due to other plans so cannot comment on the food. wifi was great no signal problems. Overall What more could I ask. Would stay here again.

"Really nice hotel"
chris t, 21 Mai 2017

The interior of the hotel and staff are amazing. Don't let the outside look of the hotel put you off. Once you're in there you'll be pleasantly surprised. And the food in the evening was great. Might be worth that the hotel spent a bit of money on the car park and exterior of the hotel.

"Evening Dinner"
Christine W, 20 Mai 2017

I have just got back from the Aberafan Beach hotel We had booked a table my husband had salmon with mediterranean vegetables I had the duck breast with a cherry sauce served on a bed of cabbage then tangy Lemon tart for dessert food was excellent it was quiet in the restaurant but that just added to the meal. The bar area was busy and staff were attentive.

"No Granddaughters or their parents!"
Revey A, 19 Mai 2017

Aberavon is a great place. 40 minutes away as the car fly's. This was an over night chill out for my wife and I. The hotel exterior needs a tidy up and unfortunately the pool was being repaired. But that happens and it did not spoil our over night stay. Great walks along the front, a few beers in the 4 winds. SLEEP & a fantastic breakfast. Staff prompt and polite. We'll go then again & again.

"You cant judge a book by its cover"
YK10RLO, 18 Mai 2017

Overall a clean and comfortable hotel, such a shame about the external architecture. Breakfast products need improvement, the produce of the cooked breakfast were not up to standard the sausage was full of water and orange juice tasted like water.

"excellent sunday lunch"
tonypandy, 15 Mai 2017

We had sunday lunch at the aberavon beach hotel last sunday , it was excellent, 2 course £9;95 3course £13;95 good value for money, light and bright, and well presented with pleasant staff, Choice of meat, and starter and dessert pleasant surroundings on the sea front but aberavon is always a little windy ! We will go back there again for Sunday lunch

"Filthy Mattress and Unhelpful Manageress"
Joan B, 04 Mai 2017

We stayed for one night, I was horrified when I stripped the bed next morning, I pulled back the mattress protector to find previous person/s had discharged their bladder all over it, horrible dark brown urine stains covering the whole of the mattress from top to bottom. The mattress should of been scrapped long ago and there was no way that could be cleaned by anyone!. The staining had come off on the mattress protector, leaving nasty yellow stains on it as well. It was disgusting, I itched and scratched till I got home and had a shower, it felt like we had slept in a urinal, and paid £65.00 for it. When we complained the manageress was unconcerned and her hotel and hospitality skills left a lot to be desired, she flatly refused to come and look at the mattress. (We have photographic evidence if anyone wishes to see it). My friend had the room opposite and found a dirty towel left under the wardrobe area from the last resident. Then the hotel manager tried to tell us that the hotel has high standards. (I bet he wouldn't of slept on it) My advice is to check all beds and bedding before payment for accommodation.

"Business visit"
Gary S, 03 Mai 2017

Not a very welcoming hotel from the outside. Carpark rough and pot holed. Inside looks much better. Reception staff pleasant and got room on 3Rd floor at front. Room too hot, no aircon and even with window open did not cool much. Bathroom extractor didn't and the shower was so poor had to run round under it to get wet. Plus the temperature pulsed from scalding to pleasant and back again. Bed was comfy so a good night's sleep was had. Breakfast was excellent with the hot food cooked to order. Best soft poached eggs I have had for a long while. I suppose for the price paid not bad but showers need improvement as well as the exterior and carpark.

"Looks are very deceiving"
MikeCfromEngland, 01 Mai 2017

As many have said, the exterior of this hotel needs some tlc. Once you're into though, you quickly forget that. A very nice hotel with friendly staff. We ate here for dinner and breakfast and both meals were excellent. Mike and Louise

"Don't Be Put Off By the Outside!"
owen60, 22 Avril 2017

This hotel is in a superb position, front of the hotel overlooks the Aberavon Beach, but the outside lets it down badly. The carpark is full of potholes and the garden needs attention. The outside is needing attention, looks like a prison block. Once inside it is a different story, bright and airy and the rooms have been upgraded and were very clean. Restaurant was good but maybe a bit small. One comment on the bathroom, there was no slip mats in the bath or any grab handles, this would help older people a lot.

"It's ok!"
zolno, 21 Avril 2017

Don't let the drab unloved exterior of this hotel put you off, inside is a diamond in the rough! If you can see your way past the peeling weathered paintwork that greets you when you enter the potholed riddled carpark you will find an establishment filled with professional and friendly staff, willing to cater to your needs as best they can. The bar man went out of his way to make us feel welcome after our long journey and the room was adequate for our needs. If I was to say anything negative about this hotel it would have to be the noise! I thought at one point of the night I was back in Ibiza! Boom boom thud from the bar next door! Sound proofing was left out of the building plans! Ear plugs should be supplied! and when I requested a room change that fell on deaf ears ( he must of come from the disco!)

"A gem of a hotel."
Rebecca A, 20 Avril 2017

The Aberavon Beach Hotel is a wonderful find. It's nothing special from the outside but really classy inside. Breakfast is the highest standard I've experienced in a hotel in this price range. The staff are warm and friendly. The pool is a great extra. The bed was huge and very comfortable...I want one at home now. This was our second stay and we'll certainly be back next year.

"Don't bother"
Netty L, 12 Avril 2017

Terrible hotel tired interior shower terrible just a trickle cold room staff apathetic on reception food bad an all round terrible experience close to the beach which is good but just run would not come back

"Great sea view"
chingwahl2017, 11 Avril 2017

The room had a great sea view, and very quiet. Breakfast was great, and in general the hotel was clean and tidy. The only drawback for the stay was the poor internet connection, though it improved if the door was opened (then lack of privacy). I had to skype with my son on the corridor.

"Brilliant Staff, better inside than out"
Phil P, 11 Avril 2017

The hotel looks very drab and shabby on the outside and the car park is very poor and potholed but it's very different on the inside. We were greeted at reception and made to feel very at home and given lots of advice on where to visit. The room was very nice and had a view to the beach. We ate in the restaurant and both the bar and waiting staff were great and the food was excellent. We would definitely stay again.

"Excellent place to visit on a sunny day"
Roger B, 11 Avril 2017

Good food, staff and accommodation all at affordable prices with free parking. The restaurant is very light and airy with views of the lovely sunsets over a large beac area. Nice long and level walk along the wide promenade. Lovely pool are in hotel with sauna and jacuzzi.

"Horrible exterior but a well presented interior."
PhilnDebs11, 11 Avril 2017

Very nice bar area with welcoming staff. Sam who works behind the bar is extremely sociable as are the other staff. A good place for a quiet drink & chat. No loud music blasting your ears. The bar food was plentiful & very enjoyable.

"Lovely hotel and staff"
Carly G, 28 Novembre 2016

Visited this hotel for 2 nights myself, husband and 2 children aged 7 and 10. Hotel looks horrible from the outside but was lovely once you walked inside. Staff were lovely. Head receptionist Anne was lovely and friendly. Rooms were clean and had everything you needed. Kids loved the pool. We will deffo be going back for another visit.

"Business trip women traveling alone "
lozzaking, 16 Novembre 2016

Stunning hotel, very modern lovely decor. Friendly receptionist offered to help with my bags. Free internet. Room was very clean and warm. Free tea and coffee. Good night sleep after a long day. Food is good too. Will be staying here again on the next business trip.

"Second visit but just for the bar food"
Vanessa W, 15 Novembre 2016

Having stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed the bar meals we thought as we had friends visiting and staying there we would go there again. We tried the bar meal the week before the visit, my husband ordered the curry and I ordered the ham salad, unfortunately they hadn't any ham so I picked the chicken salad, looked lovely but I was disappointed as the only part of the salad was a huge pile of rocket and looked like a half a red onion with a few croutons, I sent it back, I would have expected at least some tomatoes and cucumber. The bar staff were very apologetic and offered a free drink and I ordered the chicken carbonara which we very nice and the curry was also fine. The following week we met our friends in the bar and ordered the food, it was ok but could have been hotter, we then ordered the sticky toffee pudding and custard. This arrived and the custard and pudding were stone cold and was sent back, unfortunately the same thing happened again, the third time is was better but not hot, very disappointing. What also was rather unpleasant was the whole time we were eating there was as function going on which had boxing and the boxers were warming up in the bar area, working with their trainers and punching at the pads and making a very loud noise, not very pleasant really and this went on for just about the whole meal. Our friends said that they were pleased with their room and the breakfast.

"Disappointing, unlikely to revisit."
besssie, 10 Novembre 2016

Having stayed before we knew the dogs would be happy. They were. However, our experience was marred because of two huge party events on one night and another on our final night. The noise was expected and bearable both in our room and on the ground floor in the restaurant and bar. What wasn't bearable was the poor quality of the restaurant meal which was adequate but not for the price. A bowl of pasta in cream was huge but uninspiring for £14.00. Next morning the breakfast buffet again overwhelmed the ability of the kitchen to cope with the huge numbers. Staff did their best to cope but tables weren't ready and the buffet choice wasn't replinished quickly enough. Not great. The completed questionnaire on check out hasn't been responded to either. Unlikely to stay again if we can find another dog friendly hotel in the area.

"Bit hit & miss"
stephen w, 08 Novembre 2016

The outside of the hotel is unkempt and sadly in need of a makeover but there were some good features about this hotel. The dining area is in the conservatory and nicely decorated. The full English was decent and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel accepts dogs and was well patronised for this reason. If you are a dog lover then this would be a good choice but some guests were inconsiderate taking dogs in lifts etc. which was a hygiene worry for me. The bedrooms are a decent size but again a bit dated. Wifi is rubbish except in bar area. There is a pool, sauna and jacuzzi but calling it a spa is a bit of a stretch! We did use these facilities but it definitely needs doing up. They use really strong bleach with an unpleasant smell in the pool area and our bedroom smelled a bit like stale aftershave so we kept the window open for our whole stay. It wasn't dirty because we wouldn't have stayed, I think they just need to use better products. If you're fussy give it a miss. Best bits for us were the friendly buzz about the place even in November, the location and the cheap price.

"Don't judge this book by the cover"
Suzie P, 04 Novembre 2016

You would be forgiven for being a little disappointed when you drive up to this ugly building but as the old saying goes - don't judge a book by its cover. Walking into the sparkly lobby the whole place changes. We've stayed on a number of occasions now and have always been greeted in a friendly way by the staff on reception and elsewhere in the hotel. The rooms are basic but nice, although could do with a few touch ups to the decor, which is a tad tired in places. The most important bit, the beds, were really comfortable though. The pool and jacuzzi again are a little tired looking but you quite often get the place to yourself and it's perfect for a relaxing swim. The location is great for a peaceful break and although the town is a little rundown and the steel works do somewhat ruin the view, the beach is fantastic, even in November. We ended up walking for hours! In fact we had such a nice time that we stayed for an extra night and the reduced price we got made it a bargain, especially with the plentiful breakfast - which was kept warm for me by the incredibly thoughtful staff when I was dealing with a hungry baby! Perfect for a first trip away with our little boy.

"Clean, friendly, convenient and good value."
Caterham08, 01 Novembre 2016

We stayed one night at a weekend - its a no fuss and convenient location. Check in was friendly and easy, and breakfast was good; the young staff were polite and the service was quick. Downsides are an archaic heating system which occasionally gives a loud bang to raise a smile, outside lights brighter than the sun, and a car park resembling the surface of the moon. Despite this, and the obvious need for an external refit and regular cleaning outside the front entrance, we would certainly stay again as its simply terrific value for money.

"Don't judge a book by the cover"
LMPayneSimpson, 01 Novembre 2016

Do not take any notice of the scruffy outside as it is really nice inside. Rooms are nicely decorated and the beds comfy. Staff are pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. The only downside for us was that people are allowed to have their dogs in their rooms.

"Quiet, clean, friendly and value for money"
651stephen06, 30 Octobre 2016

We stayed this weekend. The staff are friendly and polite. The room was clean, and the cooked breakfast was great. The dogs were well behaved - all in all its a great value friendly hotel right on the beach. .

"Looking dated but........"
fletchsteve, 27 Octobre 2016

Outside a little shocked at the appearance, but inside was well looked after and decorated. Rooms were also acceptable to the usual Best Western standard. Pool and spa good. Restaurant looked smart, but the food was too fussy for my taste. I usually eat in the bar but all the tables were taken, so I had to eat out. There is a good Italian restaurant and Cinema within walking distance. The promenade infront of the hotel was good for walking, and the beach on a nice day would have been excellent.

"HIdden beauty"
Mary H, 23 Octobre 2016

Like cracking open a nut, the outside of this hotel, hides a real treat inside - worth exploring, we were delighted, everything was amazing, such high standard. Rooms very high standard, as was decor, great attention to detail, food very good, reasonable lounge bar prices for food , great pool and sauna, staff very friendly and helpful, Cannot recommend highly enough, so enjoyed. Planning to revisit.

"Outside belies amazing inside !"
Mary H, 23 Octobre 2016

So enjoyed two nights here, already planning next trip. Not put of by friend commenting it was a industrial town, the beach front is amazing, and hotel perfect for R+R. Great pool and sauna, great food, friendly helpful staff, room delightful, excellent housekeeping, attention to detail obvious. One of best hotel experiences ever.

"Business Trip"
Chris B, 21 Octobre 2016

Check in and check out was quick and easy. The room was well equipped, spacious and very clean. The bed was comfortable, hard but not like a board. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. I made the mistake of eating in the restaurant on my first evening, service was abysmal, it took 2 hours from ordering to cover 2 courses, I ordered mussels on a bed of leeks as a starter, there were no leeks just mussels in a cider sauce. My main course I ordered Sea Bass with Mediterranean vegatables, but received seasonal vegatables. Breakfast service was not much quicker, and the value for money was not very good.

"Good Value"
Lettyharri, 19 Octobre 2016

We stayed here for two nights and on check in were offered to add breakfast to our room booking for £5 per person per night which seemed very good value. Our room smelt strongly of paint and on the morning after the first night I mentioned this to Anne on Reception. She was very apologetic and moved us to another room which was fine. The both rooms were very clean and for once the hairdryer in the room was powerful enough to actually dry my hair unlike some hotels I have stayed in. The bathrooms were spotless and although the shower was only an over the bath type it worked well and the water was lovely and hot. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The breakfast room was lovely with linen cloths on the tables. There was a buffet of continental rolls, pastries, cereals and 'make your own' toast with orders taken at your table for hot food and drinks. My husband had the haddock and egg on the second morning and I have to say this was the smallest, thinnest piece of haddock I have ever seen and was very disappointing. The full Welsh breakfast was nicely cooked and hot. Views from the room vary from beautiful sea views to a housing estate and takeaways so it is worth asking for a room at the front.

"Ignore the exterior - staff and facilities are great"
391colinm, 17 Octobre 2016

Exterior is square box. But once inside is well decorated and staff very welcoming. Rooms comfortable and facilities all up to standard. Food in bar very good. Also if the weather is dry the walk along the promenade is great - if sun shines view is magnificent. About fourth time I have stayed and would recommend it to anyone.

"Could be better"
davisk27, 15 Octobre 2016

An OK hotel The view we had was overlooking the petrol station and the back of the chip shop/supermarket area... not great!! Breakfast was pleasant, but slow despite only 10 people been served in the restaurant. It was a shame we found a dirty pair of boxer shorts under the chair in the bedroom when we moved it! (Questioning how clean the room was in the end.) Receptionist at check in very helpful although upon check out we were not asked if we wanted help with luggage or if we had enjoyed our stay. A pity really - felt this hotel could improve it's customer service.

"Average Hotel"
TheXPhantom, 12 Octobre 2016

Stayed in July 2016. A good location across the road from the sea. The hotel had a large car park. Initial impression from the outside was that the hotel look tired and needed some love and attention. Went to reception and spoke to the receptionist. As a gold member I wanted to enquire whether I could secure an upgrade as per the membership. Was abruptly cut down by the receptionist before I could even finish the sentence. The room was reasonably sized and again looked tired as did the en-suite. There was a TV in the room. There was a swimming pool down stairs and looked good. However I never used it. We decided to eat in during the evening and the food was good but expensive as is the norm with hotels The bedding was OK The breakfast was OK with limited options. The remaining staff were really friendly. So overall, it was an OK place. Would I stay there again......I would spend a little bit extra and stay at the Radisson which is a little further away.

"Disappointed "
Simplywelsh, 09 Octobre 2016

Really disappointed with the afternoon tea, very poor selection and only one stand between 9 people eating. Service at the bar very slow, waited a while to be served as the bar was unmaned and had to be called to be served

"Lovely friendly staff"
Dinmoreneil, 08 Octobre 2016

Stayed with a group of colleagues attending a local training course in nearby Port Talbot. The staff could not have been more helpful, allowing us to use the function rooms for impromptu meetings. The young bar staff were polite and attentive. The beach in the sunshine is spectacular.

"Aberavon Beach ... Excellent hotel look past the outside ."
Savage63, 29 Septembre 2016

We had a fabulous room overlooking the beach front , the breakfast was beautiful and the staff were very pleasant all in all a lovely hotel , we visited the cinema a short walk, and walked the beach front ,

"Pleasant enough"
LashyDavid, 29 Septembre 2016

The hotel faces a long stretch of lovely sand and breakers, with Swansea and The Mumbles to the west, and the Port Talbot steel works very evident to the east. The hotel is an unattractive block, in need of some maintenance, but it is pleasant enough inside. There is a pool and spa area (under the control of reception) and an attractive restaurant and bar. The large ballroom is used mainly for weddings and receptions, sometimes noisy. Our double room had a sea view, large TV, hairdryer, and tea and coffee facilities but there was evidence of some damp on the outside wall, possibly the cause of the slightly odd smell. There was a hanging rail instead of a wardrobe but this was tucked into an alcove. Frustratingly, it was impossible to turn off the main lighting but leave one bed-side light on when only one person wanted to read – it was all or nothing. The cooked breakfast was generous (although the “mouth-watering” fruit juice was very watery) and dinner was enjoyable and tasty. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. All this was for a reasonable price so the hotel is good value for money, just not outstanding.

"Overall an excellent visit!"
myholidays19672000, 28 Septembre 2016

I recently stayed in the hotel (12/9/2016) and had a lovely time. The hotel is in a great location and we enjoyed being able to go for a quick walk on the beach. When we came back we decided to have a drink or two and something small to eat in the lounge bar, but we found that it was closed. Although we were a bit disappointed the staff were fantastic, especially a younger man called Robert (I think) who worked behind the bar, he was so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. He remembered our drink orders and looked genuinely happy to be at work, it was lovely to receive excellent service as we don't always get this, i think great service should be rewarded which is why I am writing this review. The food was fresh and brought out quickly. Our room was peaceful and quiet, with a comfortable bed. I would definitely return in the future.

"excellent hotel"
707db, 27 Septembre 2016

The hotel looked very deceiving from outside from reviews read.but positive about internal decor and service. Would certainly come back to the hotel again. Location was good. Staff , Food and service was all good. Bar food was very good with large portions. Leisure facilities very good and clean

"Aberavon Beach"
sparky992, 26 Septembre 2016

Don't be put of by the outside look of the hotel, once inside it all gets better. I have stayed in this hotel many time when visiting relatives in Port Talbot. Staff and service always great, room comfortable. Stayed for 2 nights breakfast is great I have also eaten in the past always been god although didn't eat on the occasion only breakfast. Rooms always comfortable and clean with plenty of hot water.

"Is as poor as its first appearance"
jojojoeyjo, 26 Septembre 2016

I stayed here with my partner on a Saturday night in September. The outside looked very dated and run down, but from previous reviews i had read i didnt let this put me off. I really should have though. Our room was on the 3rd floor, it was too hot and if we opened the window we had the smell of the kitchen, all fat and greasy, come in to our room. The walls are very thin, we were woken up at 7am by the people in the next room having a conversation. The bathroom was incredibly poor, the shower is only a shower by using the water from the taps. Therefore there is no real water pressure and its very difficult to get a temperature that does not burn or freeze. Despite advertising free Wifi the signal did not make it to our room. We went to the bar to have a quiet drink, but as there was some event on in the hotel, as soon a you got out of the lift all we could here was musical songs being sung quite poorly all throughout the lobby and bar of the hotel. The staff were a little rude. And the health suite is tine and very dated. This was the worst hotel i have stayed in in a long time.

"First impressions can be misleading!"
onions27, 26 Septembre 2016

Stayed here after dropping our son off at Swansea university. As other reviewers have highlighted, this hotel is not pretty on the outside but inside all changes. Our room was clean and fully functional and despite their being an event in the hotel we heard nothing of it. We had both diner and breakfast( full buffet only £5 per person) in the hotel and enjoyed quality food, friendly service. A well stocked Bar had a good selection of wines and beers at sensible prices. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

"Afternoon tea"
Wendy P, 25 Septembre 2016

Don't be put off by the appearance of the hotel from the outside. It is very smsrt inside. We had a lovely afternoon tea with family and friends. Sandwiches, scones, bara brith and toasted teacakes with lots of cups of tea for under £9 each. An excellent afternoon out. Highly recommended ??

"All a bit tired"
Damien B, 23 Septembre 2016

This hotel looks dreadful from the outside - car park surface is like a cratered moon and the building looks very dated. The public spaces are a lot better - even something of a surprise with marble and glass. While the rooms (I have stayed in several on business) are clean enough they are all rather shabby. The last one (109) had a lot of staining on the carpet where the radiator had been leaking and the sealant around the bath/shower is blackening and coming away. Wi-Fi is free, but horribly slow and you may struggle with a mobile signal. There are, however, two really good things about this hotel - th view from the rooms at the front is great, straight out across the sea and there is a decent Indian (the Cinnamon Kitchen) two minutes walk away.

"Aberavon Hotel"
Joan B, 16 Septembre 2016

We arrived for a four night break ,the external appearance of the hotel needs a face lift, as it looks very dated. but we were pleasantly surprised by the interior of the hotel it was clean and warm, checking in was easy and painless. The receptionist was polite, friendly, well turned out and helpful. Our double room was a reasonable size but the wall paper was dark and made the room feel smaller than it actually was. the bed, linen, bathroom were also very clean. couldn't fault it. We tried the leisure facilities really enjoyed the spa. that was also very clean, It is a long time since I have seen a breakfast buffet so well presented, the choice of breakfast food was excellent. we enjoyed our stay. would definitely return and recommend to others.

"Good food and welcome"
NELMSIE15, 13 Septembre 2016

Our stay at the Aberavon Beach was very pleasant with good food, attentive staff and comfortable beds. The only weak part of the visit was the very slow service in the bar, they struggled when the beer barrels were empty, training for al is needed.

"Nice place for one night "
tyreman5560, 12 Septembre 2016

Had to find accommodation at short notice for a family funeral wasn't disappointed with this hotel. Only problem was a little confusion over the breakfast menu that was sorted out for us. Nice location easy to find just off the motorway.

"needs a sort out"
coachdriver123, 11 Septembre 2016

fair hotel, have stayed in better and have stayed in worse.first impresion not good but when you get inside it is much better.try to get a room with a seaview as rooms at the back are very noisy when they have weddings that do not stop till gone 01;00 very noisy, also deliveries to shops at the rear start early

"Sad outside, good inside"
kayburke123, 11 Septembre 2016

The car park and main entrance lets this hotel down. It all needs a good scrub and sweep and the lights need sorting on the neon fascia. 3 of the 4 disabled bays were filled with cars not displaying a blue badge which I have. Inside is good, clean and well maintained. The restaurant staff were friendly although the reception staff were in a world of their own and could do with a lesson in people skills. Our room was smallish but adequately furnished, but the bathroom was a disappointment. It had obviously bee recently refurbished and at first glance looked great, but the shower (in the bath) let it down and there were no handrails to help me in or out. As I have dodgy hips I will be booking a disabled room in future and should then get a walk-in shower. The storage space in the bathroom was very limited. The room was very hot although the outside temperature at night was cool, the windows barely opened. We enjoyed our time at the hotel, the food was good and the whole place was clean.

"Business trip"
Martin R, 09 Septembre 2016

I was given this hotel as my accommodation for a business trip away lasting one week. The outside of the hotel is very worn and quite frankly looks like a council block of flats. Stepping inside I was very surprised by the reception area. It is like you step into a completely different building. The room I was given was accessible and done the job. There was nothing amazing about the room however. It seemed a bit old fashioned. The breakfast was ideal and adequate. The hotel staff also accommodated me and my colleagues very well as we often had to leave an hour before breakfast started for work. They allowed us to eat earlier which made my stay much more pleasant.

"Great location"
hugh e, 07 Septembre 2016

This hotel does not look much from the outside, but inside is a different story. Lovely rooms, some with fantastic views looking over aversion beach .watching the waves rolling in was a brilliant site . With nice easy walks on the front/ or run/ cycle.

"Still special"
fisher-and-friend, 02 Septembre 2016

We used to stay here regularly when visiting family in Swansea, but haven't had occasion to visit in almost five years, and hoped things hadn't changed too much. We had no reason to fear. We presented as a complicated family group; three generations with differing needs. The staff went the extra mile to accommodate us all, and with smiles on their faces throughout our three-day stay. The food was excellent - first night dinner in the dining room and the second (cheaper) in the bar area. Both had menus that catered for all our different tastes. The hotel is still clean and welcoming, the sea view from the rooms at the front of the hotel is beautiful, and the local surroundings have become more vibrant, with more things for young families to enjoy. But the strength of this hotel is still its staff. Genuinely friendly and efficient throughout. Well done to them all.

"Surprisingly lovely 70s fortress "
Alan W, 31 Août 2016

Excellent hotel right on the beach. Welcoming inside and well kept. Rooms are up to date, the only gripe I have is the shower isn't fantastic. The restaurant in the hotel is bang on, FANTASTIC steak and wonderful service. Breakfast is great too, you're not limited to full english and continental left out on the side. I had lovely poached egg on toast. I work down here a fair bit and it's the best I've come across.

"Needs some fans in the rooms.."
Nasir M, 25 Août 2016

We were part of a wedding party in this hotel that took part on Tues 23rd, Everything was very good apart from the rooms needed fans badly.. Sad thing is the hotel doesn't have fans or A/C... Second floors carpet needs to be looked at.. Staff's and inside the hotel is good.. outside the hotel made me laugh thought working in to bingo club..lol Car park needs to be looked into..

"Wedding"
joannelouise71, 22 Août 2016

The wedding had asked for afternoon tea instead of a sit down meal. There were 10 guests to a table. One stand of food came out that consisted of 10 scones, 10 teacakes flat as pancakes, 10 slices of half inch thick fruit cake and 30 finger slices of sandwiches. One small bowl of jam and one equally small bowl of cream. £25 per person. What a rip off. And they cut all the wedding cake up into tiny slices that fell apart and put it beside the dance floor that only the table next to it knew it was there. Good job outside caterers came in for the night as then we had decent food. Absolutely terrible for the price they charge there.

"Awful Service"
Toni L, 22 Août 2016

Swimming Pool was absolutely filthy, dirt at the bottom which was hard and sticking to our feet. The changing rooms were smelly, dirty and just not pleasant to use. We had evening meal in the lounge near the bar, the staff were nowhere to be seen as the lad with glasses was too busy walking round with a young toddler the whole time we were there. The chips in the buckets were dropped on my partner, our fish was served upside down showing the skin and soggy bottom, no garnish, no slice of lemon, no horse radish. At the bar there was no pinot grigot left, I don't understand how a hotel/bar runs out of wine, one of the most popular ones. The room that the family were staying in had a rattly windowsill and being by the beach with strong wings, it rattled all night long. I am gutted that I recommended this hotel for family to stay this weekend with all these problems, we won't be using this hotel again for overnight stays, meals or use of facilities.

"Ignore the outside"
Rob J, 18 Août 2016

Looks like a 1960s office block on the outside but don't judge this hotel by its cover. Inside is really nice. Rooms are large and well equipped and ours a view directly over the beautiful sandy beech. Lovely indoor pool and hot tub, restaurant and bar services. Aberavon beech is just across the road, its ideal for young kids. Lots of other things along the front to keep them happy. An ideal location for a kids UK holiday.

"Do not be put of by the exterior"
malfishing47, 06 Août 2016

This Hotel is far better on the inside than it is on the out side. The rooms were very clean and all in good order. The staff here were extremely helpful. The breakfast was very very good and there was plenty of it. Will certainly stay again if in the area.

"Tha Aitches at Aberavon Beach Hotel"
orion546, 03 Août 2016

If you are looking for a great value for money break either on your own, with the kids, and dog in tow, look no further than. the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel. From the warm welcome at check-in and the overall atmosphere to the cleanliness of the room ( we stayed in 222).There's a leisure pool & Jacuzzi with life guard in attendance. Rooms on the left side unfortunately overlook the kitchen fans but this cant be helped. The beach couldn't be better and if you've had a full on day, you certainly wont notice the fans and you'll sleep well in crisp linen. Breakfast is plentiful to stoke up your boilers for the day ahead. Staff are very polite and attentive. No ground floor rooms but the lifts would accommodate a wheelchair. There are also stairs which are not too challenging. We ate in the Lounge / Bar I had the beer battered cod and my husband had the 6oz steak. both cooked to perfection and the fish was as white as snow and huge. Millie dog was allowed in the bar lounge areas not in the restaurant which is to be expected. And she was very comfortable enjoying watching the world go by, seeing other dogs and all the fussing. There is a 3 mile stretch of beautiful sandy clean beach. Millie can go far left or far right throughout the year. Cycle enthusiasts came solo and in groups. We ate out on Saturday as there was a large wedding and reception at the hotel which was just a tad too overpowering for Millie but don't be put off. There were plenty of staff and it was very well organised. Our check out was as swift as the check in and we are certainly looking forward to returning.

"Thank you for your help"
mickSmethwick, 01 Août 2016

We have just had a 3 day trip to the Gower area which was lovely and stayed here which was mostly a great experience,Poor outside appearance but inside very good in all areas.Room excellent, food good, bar and staff friendly. However on the first night we were on the first floor above the function room which was hosting a very loud BANGRA type function.Wow ! The noise was horrendous and bits and pieces were moving with the vibrations. We couldn't even hear the tv.We rang the night manager but there was little he could do but pass it over to the Hotel Manager the next day and knowing there was another function the next night we were ready to leave. However the next morning we were passing reception and the very helpful receptionist sympathised with us and immediately brought the manager who was equally sympathetic and helpful.we went out for the day and upon return found our belongings had been moved to a room with a sea view as far away from the function room as it was possible to be.From being despondent the previous evening it was lovely to see such a high level of customer care.Thankyou to the night manager, the receptionist and the Manager from turning such a negative into a massive positive and we will certainly return.

"A great meal and great service"
Freddy6002, 31 Juillet 2016

Although from the outside it does not seem appealing, inside, although a bit tired we received really good service, staff were very accommodating and helpful. The food was to a very good standard. I would really recommend this to anyone who anyone who would like a high quality meal.

"Well worth a visit"
walsllguy, 30 Juillet 2016

You may be put off by the exterior but don't be put off . Great reception when you arrive close to the beach lovely modern rooms and polite staff . Very good bar meals at decent prices . Lovely sea views from our room

"Birthday trip"
TonypandyRobert, 25 Juillet 2016

Not very impressive exterior when we arrived, but the warm and friendly welcome by the receptionist more than made up for this. Her precise instructions enabled us to locate our room with ease. We found our room to be clean and comfortable with a nice view of the beach which is just across the road. We used the pool and jacuzzi during our visit, and both these and the sauna were excellent. Breakfast was hot, tasty and plentiful, with a wide variety of choices. All in all a very good hotel which I would recommend to anyone staying in this area who want a comfortable bed, good food and friendly, curteous staff at a very competitive price.

"Don't be fooled."
SparkyM-25, 24 Juillet 2016

First impressions as you drive up to the building is, wow this open ? As you pull into the potholed carpark you realise this place is trading. walking into reception you would think you just walked through the doors of a different hotel, sadly thats that only great feature. ROOM'S: Rooms are tired, beds are very old. The shower was sluggish and inconsistant, Temperature couldnt decide if it wanted to be scaling hot or ice cold, you could hear everything in the next room thats including the toilet ! TV large, Windows open wide to let the heat out. LOCATION: Fantastic, the hotels best feautre, a walk across the road to be on the beach and prom. a short walk to a cinema and next door is a leisure centre. Nothing like walking to the car in the morning with the sea air blowing in. BAR/Restraunt: 3 star food hygene rating, Only sampled the BAR food as there was a function every night in the restraunt so was unable to get a table. Which also meant a 45 min delay for food orders. Highly recommend the local fish & chip restraunt a short walk west on the front. Decour of the bar is a bit 70's. Beer reasonablly priced. Didn't sample breakfast as 7am was too late due to business commitments. TO SUM UP: Although I wouldnt stay again, the location is great. WIFI is slower than dial up, thats when it works. Staff are friendly & prices are competative. Food was simple but tasty

"Lovely View"
SwindonEvs1, 22 Juillet 2016

Hotel outside looks aweful but service inside and food very good.Superb location and friendly staff bit noisy in bar area overall a good experience and ideal business stop over as in good location for majority of South Wales

"Speedway GP Finals"
Leslie F, 13 Juillet 2016

My second stay at this hotel, easy to find and a great location facing the ocean, a very big car park so ideal for us with 2 coaches. The staff are friendly and efficient , my room 319 was on the front so an excellent view of the ocean , nice clean comfortable bed and linen. I think I mentioned this last time but the bathroom could do with grab handles at the side of the shower. The breakfast again was good and plenty of choice, the sausages, for me, were excellent, I think Lincolnshire ? All in all a great stay again and we are returning again next year.

"Did not provide what was booked"
IanF444, 13 Juillet 2016

Booked a double room through Hotels.com and have a confirmation showing this. Allocated a twin on check in. When I queried this was just told "we don't have any doubles available". Not even an apology. A bit of a sad hotel badly in need of refurbishment. Its just Ok and little more. Some staff super friendly and others just seemed to be going through the motions.

"OK for price"
Trevor P, 11 Juillet 2016

Stayed here 3 years in row for one night. Not changed at all. Still looks atrocious from outside, but inside is ok. However definitely requires redecoration now. Service of staff can't be faulted. Food and bar ok. Didn't use pool this time so cant comment. Would continue to stop here if for short stay.

"Not what we expected !!"
Shaneday, 10 Juillet 2016

Don't be fooled by the exterior on arrival once inside it all changes Stayed for one we had an early check in as we arrived early and our room was ready nice room comfy bed all standard facilities we arrived back from the speedway gp so restaurant was closed so we had a drink at the well stocked bar then bed breakfast was ok we were in overspill dining room felt a bit like an outsider sat in there until others came down food all well cooked and plentiful Would go back again and may be back next year

"Looks can be deceiving. Hotel for pets."
roberthV3985OW, 27 Juin 2016

Booked as a last minute need we werent initially fussy. On arrival it does look tatty outside and the tarmac is in need of replacing in the car park. Once inside however its a marked improvement. Dont expect lots of starts but a nice reception, pleasant bar and welcoming staff made this a relaxing stay. Not somewhere I'd run to for a holiday or a few nights, but well worth the stopover on a trip and excellent value for money. Plus they are dog friendly which is why we booked.

"Disappointing stay"
saltim78, 25 Juin 2016

I stayed here the night before me and my husband were due to attend family event in Swansea. I had written to the hotel through Booking.com to request a sea view but received no response. Check in was painless after a 5hr drive from London, however when I mentioned the email and sea view, I was told there was a £10 supplement for a sea view, to which I agreed. We did not eat at the hotel, however, on our return, there was a disco of sorts and incredibly loud music which kept us awake until 11.04pm. The room smelt fusty and the wallpaper was peeling from the wall due to damp. The hot water took forever to come through but when it did, it was plentiful. The place is in need of an overhaul and I was so disappointed as I only booked because it had four stars already on TripAdvisor. What am I missing?

"Don't judge this hotel on its exterior, get inside and relax!"
Jimmie C, 23 Juin 2016

Been here a few times to rest. From the welcome at reception and tea with clotted cream this is a lovely hotel to unwind in. Friendly staff, good food, great views over the bay, and pool to relax in. Thank you!

"Nice surprise once you cross the threshold"
STEVE P, 22 Juin 2016

Although the hotel looks tired from the outside it's a pleasant surprise once you're booked in. Staff are extremely courteous, pleasant and helpful. The room was good, and the bar/lounge food & drink was competitively priced.

"Checked out early"
Pushkin_13, 19 Juin 2016

Booked for four nights had to leave after three, if we hadn't been going to a concert in Swansea on the Saturday we would have left before. The hotel is tired and in need of a refit, our room was small supposed to have a queen bed and the bathroom was really small. I asked to move to a bigger one and was told all family rooms that were bigger were booked. Didn't see any families just lots of pensioners on coach holidays. The pool was not clean you could run your nail along the tiles in the pool and get "scum" off. I reported this to reception who said it was cleaned every day. It need to be emptied and cleaned properly not just vacuumed. Pool area was also like a sauna, sweltering, and appeared to be used by lots of locals with kids for swimming even though there is a super pool in the complex next door. Restaurant food not fantastic I ordered medium rare steak that was so thin it would be impossible to cook medium rare. My wife ordered kippers for breakfast and was served one fillet like a boil in the bag job. It was OFF. I gave it back to the waitress who just said sorry. When I queried the portion size she said it should have been at least two fillets. First morning cooked breakfast was buffet style and not bad, second day was cooked to order and the fried eggs were rock hard. Seems to be lots of "students" working who don't seem really interested, are just there to earn some extra cash. Seems to me that the whole area is run down, there is nothing to do locally and it's only coach parties and locals using the bar that keep it going. My final gripe is "dog friendly" I abhor dogs in hotels, having an allergy to them I know is my problem but I do not want to book a room that's had a dog in it all night, no matter how good the cleaner you can't get rid of the hair. I enquired as to whether the hotel had a policy of certain rooms kept solely as the dog friendly rooms and was informed that the member of staff I asked didn't know but that she would find out. I never got an answer.

"Good Food, Friendly staff and Good Rooms."
KAREN W, 19 Juin 2016

We stayed here to visit relatives close by, as we arrived the heavens opened and this always sours first impressions, however once we entered the hotel we were impressed by the quality, given that this was a three star hotel. Every member of staff we spoke to were helpful and friendly. The food was fabulous with the breakfast being the best I've had for a long time! The room we had (215) was a bit dark and too warm but as we were only staying for one night it was okay but if we were staying for ore than this we would have asked for a change of room. The area has improved as there are obviously efforts being made to attract more people to the seafront and it was a pleasure to take an evening stroll along the promenade.

"great Location"
jasper40, 15 Juin 2016

we stayed here with our dog who was made to feel very welcome. Room was good value and we ate all meals in the bar with our dog. Location was good with beach across the road for dog walks! Staff exceptional and friendly

"Weekend break"
Paul E, 15 Juin 2016

Very nice hotel, it's outside appearance does let it down although inside its clean and staff very good. Overall very good value for money. You couldn't get a better spot for access to the beach, a plus that well behaved dogs are allowed.

"Better on the inside than it looks from out"
paulisa69, 14 Juin 2016

Stayed here for one night nice friendly welcome all staff very pleasant room was nice big comfortable bed. Bathroom looked quite new with a bath and over bath shower. Coffee making in the room. Wifi has improved a lot since I last stayed here it is now a good speed and worked well. We ate in the bar on the night decent food and bar meals not badly priced I do think the restaurant prices are too high tho. Breakfast was good but coffee not the best. Quick summery hotel has improved a lot since I last stayed a few years ago and I will stay again

"Clean, Friendly and lovely location"
stobs, 13 Juin 2016

Visited for a family celebration at the hotel anf decided to stay over. Took 2 rooms - a double and a family room. The first thing we noticed on approach to the hotel was that it was right across the road from an absolutely gorgeous beah. As we were with grandkids the location could not have been better. The second thing we noticed, and this is the ONLY negative, is that on approah the hotel is not exactly attractive. In fact the external appearance might put off some travellers. DO NOT let the outside stop you from staying here - the inside is a total contrast from the moment you step into the bright and open reception area. We had two rooms on the 3rd floor, no problem for anyone accessing these because there are two lifts, and both our rooms had a lovely beach and sea view. The room decoration was all nice and light and the rooms were spotlessly clean. There is ample car parking and the spaces seemed a little woder than standard. There is also a ramp access for wheelchairs. This is a great place for functions - there was a wedding party as well as our familly do and they do not interfere with each other. The function rooms are very nice. The hallways have deep carpets which softens most of the noise from people walking past at night - although the wedding party was still going on after we went to bed there was very little noise that could be heard. Had a great nights sleep and breakfast in the morning was good - I would have said excellent but the foos was not quite as hot as I like it. Good selection of serials, bread for toasting and a choice of items in the full breakfast. Our family also made use of the swimming pool which, like everywhere else, was very clean. Overall a very positive experience at what we thoght was a reasonable price. Definitely recommend the hotel and would have happily scored a 5 if it was not for the exterior asppearance.

"2 night break in south Wales "
Bryan P, 07 Juin 2016

2 night break to tour the gower & surrounding area. Pro's Views from room overlooking the sea. Large screen TV in the room. Close to the sea front. Hotel interior decor was modern & new. Food at times. Con's Thick quilts in rooms despite being 25 degree course in room. No fans in rooms. Windows were shut in the room during the day to keep the room as hot as possible. The pool area was like a greenhouse/ sauna due to the temperature. Water in the pool was like a bath & was too hot. The curtains in room 111 didn't meet in the middle so let light in. Control of lights in room was confusing. Old style electric point in room for plugs with circular pins where you want to charge your phone up from. Food 1st night bar meal came then we asked for sauces the waiter said give him 2 minutes 15 minutes later they arrived just as we were finishing the meal. Breakfast on the first day was buffet style & the cooked breakfast was cold as it had been prepared for a coach tour who were leaving early. 2nd night bar meal food came which was OK eventually got the sauce but had our own this time, went to order dessert but we're told we can't order any food as the chef was too busy, so we didn't bother. Other hotel residents had the same problem that they couldn't order any food. 2nd day breakfast was cooked to order so was better but took over 10 minutes to make a drinking chocolate. There seems to be a lack of staff & those there are overworked. There seems to be a lack of management to take control, the hotel didn't seem over busy so in the height of summer they may struggle. Nice area to visit with a nice beach.

"bank holiday break"
147ieuanw, 06 Juin 2016

i stayed at the hotel over the bank holiday weekend and had a lovely weekend. The hotel is in a great location, just across the road is the beach. The indoor pool is good, We only stayed for breakfast which was good. Lovely restaraunt down the road called marcos which was lovely.

"lovely hotel close to the beach"
Claire11122, 02 Juin 2016

The hotel does not look much from outside but inside the lobby and bar area is modern and they provide a bar and restaurant menu (although v little if wanting a healthy option). The hotel room is very clean, the bed is comfy, with a decent size flat screen TV. Hairdryer, fluffy towels, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and toiletries are provided. The hotel is quiet and the breakfast smelt lovely, although I never tried it. The hotel has a pool and is also conveniently next door to a leisure centre, with a cinema, burger king and cinnamon chain indian a few minutes walk away. The hotel is opposite the sea front and my room and many others gave fantastic views of the beach and sea front.

"Sea views"
Marl3y2007, 01 Juin 2016

Super hotel with with wonderful seaviews. Excellent service with friendly staff and good food. Room had everything we needed and even though on a main road it was a quiet location.would recommend this hotel.

"Don't judge!"
Carolynne P, 31 Mai 2016

Don't judge this hotel by the exterior as you might just be missing out! It certainly doesn't do it justice - the interior/service/accommodation/facilities are totally satisfactory, as well as all staff! Second stay and there will certainly be more.

"a liitle piece of heaven"
Janet S, 31 Mai 2016

we love staying here The hotel is right next to a lovely beach and lovely flat promenade which is great for my dad and mother-in-law. The rooms are great suitable some suitable for disabled , The rooms have Coffee .tea making facilities, Have hairdryer and toiletress. Takes well behaved dogs Bar is lovely and serves bar meals it also has a lovely restaurant. Staff are lovely and nothing is to much trouble for them.

"Great for a stopover"
TonyH2806, 30 Mai 2016

Booked this hotel after buying tickets for a concert at the Liberty Stadium Swansea. The hotel does look very dated from the outside but internally it is completely different. Very friendly and helpful staff (booked our taxis for the concert). The lounge bar (reasonable prices) and the restaurant are very well presented .Didn't try the swimming pool but it looked inviting. Breakfast was enjoyable with unlimited toast ,croissants, fruit and juices, along with a served cooked breakfast. The hotel overlooks the lovely Aberavon beach. Not a lot within walking distance (a few cafes and restaurants) but it was very peaceful at night and I slept well. Overall great for a night or two,but you would struggle for entertainment for a week with children.

"Great dog friendly stay."
ROY G, 30 Mai 2016

We had a lovely room, with en suite facilities. The restaurant and bar serve excellent food with a wide choice. The hotel is very modern, clean and comfortable with friendly staff who cannot do enough to help you The hotel is extremely dog friendly, with beautiful views overlooking the beach. The overall experience was excellent and we would recommend this hotel.

"Could be a lot better"
George R, 16 Mai 2016

The hotel is in need of an upgrade. General appearance, lack of internet (had to use own WIFI) and hot water system needs attention. Noisy in certain parts of hotel due to adjacent bar Breakfast is regularly "Buffet" due to coach parties. Average price £ 60-70/night so a little pricy for what you get. I have stayed over 50 nights in the last 2/3 months as its close to place of work and that's the only reason why. On a good note staff very helpful

"Room too warm and breakfast disappointing"
julieoconnor2, 13 Mai 2016

First room very warm, with non-insulated hot water pipe running across the wall. Complained after the first night of being unable to sleep. After the second night decided to check out and then a lovely night receptionist arranged for us to be moved to a new room. Still a hot water pipe in the new room, but not such a long pipe and window could be opened wider. Breakfast very disappointing, with the Continental didn't see any meat or cheeses and danish pastries only brought out when we had finished breakfast. Pool area needs updating.

"John, Dunstable"
C7324OAjohn, 12 Mai 2016

I have stayed at this hotel many times. The rather dated exterior gives a poor first impression but the food in the restaurant makes you forget that. The food is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff friendly. The rooms are a bit hot in summer as there is no air conditioning, but otherwise I can find very little to fault.

"Excellent stay at dog friendly hotel"
sianWales_Uk, 10 Mai 2016

Stayed here 31st April in suite and room with extended family and two, well behaved dogs! Don't be put off by the exterior of this hotel, it doesn't do it justice. The interior is stylish, clean and efficiently run by polite and attentive staff who we found very helpful. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant (understandably) but you can eat in the lounge if you want to keep your pets with you. We did and the food was very good. Staff even made a table up in there for us to have breakfast in the morning (despite them being very busy during our stay, with several functions going on, they still managed to be attentive and accommodating) The rooms were both clean, well equipped with a good standard of decor (standard expectations i know, but things you don't always get when hotels know you have a dog with you ??) We stayed in suite 302 and 305 they were both of a good standard, only criticism was poor WiFi in 302 otherwise would have given 5* rating, didn't worry me unduly but 13yr old daughter wasn't so happy! Right opposite the beach, and long promenade, perfect for dog walking (until 1st May when they are not allowed on beach) Would I stay here again? Definitely!

"Stinking hot room"
MTBSteve11, 05 Mai 2016

Perhaps it was a consequence of staying on the first night of what might be summer.. I had room 314 - top floor at the end of the building. The 2" diameter central heating pipes which ran around the perimiter of the room were full on, and the window only opening 1" made for a sticky night. The hotel is on the seafront, handy for the steelworks. Good Indian restaurant a few mins away. The hotel is next door to the public swimming baths. Inside the hotel reception, the hotel smells like a swimming pool too. Having a pool on the ground floor, there's a distinctive chlorinated smell. The room would have been okay for a night were it not for the heating pipes. Breakfast was fine.

"Aberavon beach hotel"
Derek K, 05 Mai 2016

We chose this hotel as they are dog friendly. When you first see the hotel it is a bit off putting, a bit industrial, but once we got inside it was a different story. The lobby was very elegant & clean. The staff were very accommodating & approachable. There were 3 of us so we had one of the suites on the third floor. The rooms were a really good size & having 2 tvs was ideal as we had our son with us & he likes to watch different programmes to us. Rooms were clean & well maintained. Breakfast was very good with the exception of the sausages which were very bready. Overall our stay was very good & we would stay there again.

"Fundamentals in place but lack of conviction"
RebekahAbbi, 03 Mai 2016

Upon arrival we had to wait for a short while as the receptionist was absent from her post. when she did appear she seemed to us very disinterested and as though she was just going through the motions . The room was pleasant, clean and well equipped with amenities though at night we found the bed very uncomfortable. In the evening we decided to try out the swimming pool which was available to all guest free of charge the changing facilities and pool were both in desperate need of a good clean also the Sauna was out of order which was a little disappointing. We decided late night we fancied a night cap ( this was the best service during our stay the barman was a pleasant guy!) Breakfast the following morning was a massive let down when we saw the spread they had to offer we had high hopes but upon consuming it was lacking in quality (i found mine to be uneabile) and settled for a what was left form the continental selection. Also a fair walk from the hotel to the town centre (around 40 mins) all in alll they had all things in place that would be expected from a large chain like Best Western just needs work on the finer details .

"Great for a short stay."
bernie582015, 28 Avril 2016

Stayed for two nights, great food, surroundings and plenty of space to sit down. A swimming pool in the centre of the hotel if you require, very unusual to see this, great to watch people having fun. Very comfortable room, clean and cosy. O.k. the decorating could have been renewed, as long as the bedding is spotless and the room is clean thats what matters. Staff were great and very friendly, no task was too great. They cater for people with dietry requirements as well.

"Our third family visit"
Belpol, 26 Avril 2016

We have now visited this hotel three times as a family and once as a couple. Always good food, polite staff and nice comfortable and clean rooms. Only thing we found annoying was the very slow service in the restaurant. We were with 2 children and to have to wait at least 45 mins for the first courses to arrive makes it difficult to keep the children occupied and the entire meal took 2 1/2 hours each time so a little long I think. However, it wouldn't stop us from going again but we'd probably stick to breakfast only.

"Rooms in need of decoration"
32tonyn, 26 Avril 2016

From the outside the hotel looks tired and in need of painting with some glazed units steamed up my room 220 wasn't much better someone had done a real mess of painting the ceiling part a different colour and paint splashes on the existing wallpaper the curtain pelmet was mouldy how bad is that!! It's a pity that the decoration from the lounge bar area isn't mirrored in the bedrooms because I can't believe all the other rooms are like room 220 The bath was too small for me to have a comfortable soak plus wouldn't hold water it also took ten minutes before the water started running hot the king sized bed comfortable rest of fixtures and fittings acceptable. One other point the bar was closed at 10.40 pm ended up going elsewhere for a drink.Good selection of breakfast items all staff friendly, I spoke to the sales manager Craig Money who agreed the room should have not been let and offered a full refund

"Great weekend break"
Eric H, 21 Avril 2016

Nice hotel on the seafront with lovely views of thew sea (and steelworks! ). Friendly staff, OK food, clean but room was a little basic and could do with a freshen up. Would definately visit again if in the area.

"What a view of the flat roof"
K D, 19 Avril 2016

The room was on the 1st floor at the back of the hotel. The view was out over the flat roof with mountains in the distance. The internet did not work at all but I didn't report it as is a regular problem in this hotel. The staff and the breakfast were great but I would not choose to stay here again.

"A welcoming and pleasant hotel"
TheWanderingWoman, 19 Avril 2016

We stayed at the Aberavon Beach Hotel recently to attend a wedding. The wedding ran smoothly, the ceremony and reception room looked beautiful and the food was very good. Don't be put off by the dated exterior- it does look a bit Crossroads Motel from the outside. However, inside the interiors are plush and well cared for, with lifts in good order and public bars and other areas comfortable and clean. Our room was ready very early as the hotel knew we were attending a wedding. This was a lovely courtesy and we appreciated it, despite arriving over two hours before check in. We had a family room and it was a nice surprise to find the sofa bed fully made up. The location is excellent: you just cross one road to be on the esplanade and the beach. Facilities wise there is a small swimming pool and jacuzzi that was very much enjoyed by the guests who used it in the morning. Throughout the hotel, service and staff were excellent, especially the receptionist who was on that weekend. If I had one small gripe it would be that maybe the en suite bathrooms are looking a little tired, which may bother you if you are accustomed to hotel bathrooms made of gleaming chrome and huge mirrors.. It wasn't exactly a problem though as it was very clean and well supplied. All things considered, I would definitely stay again and would recommend it to anyone.

"Fab getaway hotel"
Celia M, 18 Avril 2016

Hotel on the beach. Great views and fabulous walks. Near the Mumbles for walking and Swansea, Bridgend (designer outlet store) and Cardiff. The hotel looks from the outside a little jaded but ignore that. Inside is lovely and impeccably clean. The staff are some of the most helpful we have come across. Gorgeous breakfast.

"Excellent experience for two OAPs and an 8 yo"
oj20082016, 07 Avril 2016

The exterior is dated but the inside is bang up to date. Superb pool/spa area. High speed free wifi.Everything very clean and tidy. Excellent range of food and service. Very helpful staff who went that extra step to help. In one case, checking the weather forecast to warn of imminent showers. Aberavon beach is a very long stretch of sand but is closed to dogs during the summer, so this negates the benefit of having a dog-friendly hotel.

"Many thanks for the service"
Kevin O, 06 Avril 2016

forget the hotel exterior - walking into the reception area shows a modern hotel with extremely friendly staff. The rooms are pleasant with a reasonable view of the sea. Food was very good and value for money. Although this stay was only 2 nights while on business, I now intend to visit again with my wife for a weekend visit.

"A Comfortable Hotel"
George H, 05 Avril 2016

The hotel is ideally situated for anyone visiting Swansea or Port Talbot. It is on the sea front situated next to a modern public swimming pool. We were satisfied with the service offered by the staff. The room was comfortable and meals enjoyable.. Overall the hotel was good value for money and If we were in the area we would definitely return,

"Enjoyable budget stay"
gaynor1968, 02 Avril 2016

My husband and I stayed here for one night on a Living Social deal. The exterior is not great but was pleasantly surprised on the interior and the room was lovely. We had a scrumptious afternoon tea before a 3 course meal in the evening. Great service and food, the warm mushroom and goats cheese salad and the vanilla rice pudding deserve a mention. The breakfast also didn't disappoint. We had a sea view and enjoyed a walk on the front despite the inclement weather. Would definitely return again.

"Cold Shower"
Nigel_Y, 01 Avril 2016

Stayed Easter Sunday 'til The Tuesday after. Tried shower at 6:15 am on the Easter Monday, all I got was cold water. tried again at 7am, still cold. Went to ask at reception and given some story about having to re-set the boiler due to the clocks changing! In our house they changed on the Saturday night not Sunday. Also told to run the bath before the shower. I did as instructed and by the time the bath was half full, the water had become tepid. Boiled the kettle and settled for a wash in stead. Next morning, Tuesday, I ran almost three quarters of a bath before the water was hot enough to shower in. What a waste of resource, both water and heat. Not impressed with the hot? buffet breakfast on the Monday am, cold bacon, eggs that had sat for quite a while. To be fair on the Tuesday we were offered freshly cooked breakfast that was fine.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover!"
Matt W, 29 Mars 2016

This hotel does not look too appealing from the exterior but you forget that once you walk through the doors, it is on the seafront and is great if you wish to visit the area with dogs as there are very dog friendly. Once there you do not need a vehicle to eat out and walk out, beach walks from the hotel and a great fish and chip restaurant called Franco's as well as a cracking indian restaurant Cinnamon both around 300 metres away from hotel.

"Appalling service"
Jenna C, 29 Mars 2016

We visited here for lunch. The rudest staff From the receptionist to the bar staff. We was made to feel like an inconvience for wanting to order food the hotel bar and restaraunt appeared empty and judging by the service no wonder. The food was ok my steak tasted like liver we asked for medium cooked steaks and not one was medium all over done. Very dated appearance from the outside also shame as the beach is beautiful, we visited Easter weekend on the Saturday. I think a little bit of staff training in manners wouldn't go amiss here.

"Pleasant Visit"
Christine W, 25 Mars 2016

We stayed at Aberavon for three nights and had a lovely stay. For once no rain but sunny and cool. We have stayed here a few times as it is a convenient location off the M4 motorway and by the sea. The service at the hotel has improved, staff were friendly and more attentive especially in the restaurant. The breakfast facilities were much better and placed in a better part of the room. It would have been nice to have had real muesli rather than packets of muesli which are so full of sugar. The fresh fruit and plain yoghurt was great with dried apricots and raisins. Would have been nice to have some walnuts too. The room was clean and tidy and as we had booked fairly late we still had a lovely view of the promenade and sea. We always enjoy our visit here even though the hotel was a shock to see the first time we saw it, being a 60/70s designed building with a flat roof. However the interior though a little tired is fine, and kept clean. There is a small/medium size swimming pool for those who like swimming! There are a couple of beach front cafes too, a newly built gym/fitness centre, Indian restaurant and multi cinema within walking distance. We look forward to visiting again.

"Enjoyable stay"
J150505, 21 Mars 2016

Just returned from a long weekend at the Aberavon Beach Hotel where we had an enjoyable stay. We've stayed here a few times before and not always found service impressive but this time it was good. Staff were welcoming and helpful. The barman was a font of local geographical and historical knowledge. Talk to him if you want information about where to visit and how to get there. Food was good and service was fast. Some Welsh dishes were on the menu which was a nice touch. WiFi strength was variable and occasionally dropped out in the bedroom but it was good in the public areas. Rooms facing the sea are worth the additional cost. Location is good - just cross the road from the beach and promenade. There is a fantastic view of Swansea bay to the west and an interesting view of the Port Talbot steel works to the east. From the outside it isn't a attractive building but it is relatively modern inside. The promenade is on level ground, not usually busy and great for walks.

"Overnight stay"
dinah88, 19 Mars 2016

What a lovely hotel!! On arrival, the outside of building wasn't very appealing. But as soon as we entered, what a suprise! Very modern, very clean, beautiful decor! The room was superb! With a fabulous view overlooking the beach and front! The staff were all very pleasant and friendly, Those on reception, behind bar, and waitresses in the restaurant! The afternoon tea, and Evening meal was absolutely delicious as was the breakfast! I would definitely recommend this hotel, I cannot praise it enough! Best hotel I have stayed in,on an overnight stay! 10/10

"hotel manager must perfom investigation"
Grazina L, 17 Mars 2016

Hi, I will repeat the same message once again as I really need someone to see this: I don't ever wright negative review or feedback but this time I had the worst experience in all times. I was staying on business for 3 nights and on the day of check out (during check out process) I find out that I am being charged 30 pound for damage light in my room. My friend who was staying with me, had noticed the damage light on the first day however she didn't feel that it needs to be reported as we never assumed that we will be accused of broking it down. I was trying to have a conversation with manager about this, but he was keep saying that it must be us, as housekeeping team "would check the lights after the previous customer left". The manager was being very unpleasant and didn't want even to listen for logical statements from us (such as - where all the glass, if housekeeper didn't find any? this "manager" thinks that you can sweep the glass without vac um machine or maybe that we brought our personal one, in case we are planing to brake some glass). I have asked this "manager" to conduct investigation - to speak with the person who has reported the damage and the person who was cleaning the room, after the previous customer was using, but the manager went to his office, stayed for 10 min and come back to see me as he has spoken and the housekeeping story matches (that was 10 a.m. - the cleaning time - and all the housekeeping ladies were on the floors cleaning the rooms - so who he could speak with??) The most upsetting part wasn't 30 pound charge but the managers incompetency and zero interest in the customer. Myself I am working in customer centered company and behavior like that would never be tolerated. Also wireless connection was so poor that i had to go to McDonald to work (but this is very small part of my horrible experience in comparison to the managers behavior) . I am still expecting the letter with apology from this "manager" if he ever conducts full investigation. Kind regards,

"Lovely people and venue but terrible food"
Foodie2009UK, 16 Mars 2016

Staff very friendly indeed. Rooms clean and very fresh. Food just simply dreadful. Carbohydrate overdose. Everything fried, battered, stodgy. Not a salad leaf or vegetable in sight. The obesity epidemic needs places like this to survive!

"Fantastic value hotel"
Steveparish1167, 15 Mars 2016

Don't be put off by the approach past the industrial heart of Port Talbot and don't worry when you arrive at the hotel's tired, office block visage. The appeal of this hotel lies in the fantastic staff, cleanliness, service, great food and spa facilities planted right on the beach front, all for incredibly low rates. Looking forward to another winter weekend break, this time with our dog which is also welcome at this gem of a hotel

"A good business hotel by the sea"
Thierry R, 09 Mars 2016

Friendly people, comfortable bed, clean room, free WiFi, casual bar and nice restaurant. The place is quiet, heating system is working well and that's worthy when you know the weather out there. A good place to stay when you are on business trip.

"Nice, Comfortable & Good View !"
Shozzzz, 08 Mars 2016

Stayed in this hotel for 1 night (17-18 February 2016). To my surprise it was one of the greatest hotels i ever stayed in. (Unlike the building looks from outside). This hotel is situated almost at the sea side. From certain side, sea is visible from rooms. Fortunately i got one of those rooms. Over all in the area one can feel plenty of steel works smell (TATA or British Steel is based in the same town). From the hotel, you can enjoy a good sea side walk (if you want to). As per the hotel room, yes it was brilliant, and i can't think of anything which made me uncomfortable. Like i mentioned earlier, hotel was quite nice as compared to the outside, first impression phenomena. I will love to stay in this hotel, if i ever get another chance to stay in this town.

"Don't judge a book by its cover"
Torlus, 05 Mars 2016

As you drive into Port Talbot it doesn't look like a holiday destination as you pass the steel works. But the roads are wide, without potholes and relatively quiet. As the hotel comes into view you think other buildings of the era have the windows boarded up. But fear not, it's just from a bygone era, there is nothing wrong with it! In fact the inside is quite modern. Lots of places to sit and relax. Rooms are comfortable. Lots of hot water in the bathroom. Not all modcons inside, but there's everything you need including a kettle. Lovely beach just across the street and endless views. Great for strolling along.

"Suprisingly Comfortable and Affordable"
Brendan T, 24 Février 2016

Driving into the area, my wife and daughter were giving me major grief over the fact that I had booked a stay practically next to Steel works! Then we say the motel and my heart sank; why does an ugly building like this need a big ugly fence around it as well? What had I booked us into. It was windy to the point a white dog blew off a black chain so I left the laughing family in the car while I went to book into what looked like Alcatraz! Through the doors into modern opulence! we were very surprised, the place is very neat and modern in side. Warm and friendly is what I would call staff and the room neat, a good size and well appointed. For the true local feel we went to the Four Winds Pub next door; there was a Wake on then Karaoke, so there is another story to tell!

"Clean, friendly, great breakfast"
Keith W, 22 Février 2016

Overnight at short notice, arrived late so didn't try restaurant. Friendly reception and bar. Room clean and well furbished. Major negative was a inadequately pressured shower. Great cooked breakfast, wife had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, which she said was excellent. Don't be put off by the uninspiring external design - very good inside. Lovely bracing walk on the prom and cafes.

"Prison like exterior hides a luxurious interior"
TheHarve, 17 Février 2016

Very clean, friendly and cost effective! We had a room which faced the road and sea. It was great! Tea/coffee facilities and a good bathroom with shower over bath. There is a large bar, an indoor pool and the bar food (although we didn't have any) came out of the restaurant looking very, very appetising! We have booked again this Easter and we're really looking forward to our mini-break

"One night stay "
Shankleysgates, 17 Février 2016

Never judge a book by its cover, stayed here 16/2 on a living social booking, nice reception welcome , good clean room 2nd floor , afternoon tea 10-10 , evening meal was 4 courses, Pork in Diana sauce was really good 10-10 , nice chill in the Bar , the hotel could do with exterior work , but inside it looks and feels really good , helpful, friendly staff , what more could you ask for , I would definitely pop in again

"Not the best"
James P, 16 Février 2016

Booked a double through hotels.com got a single! Room and hotel look tired. Horrid creaking sound coming from the roof above room 316. Room smelt funny, a musty smell, like an old wardrobe. Wifi wouldn't work which was not very helpful for work!!

"Nice surprise"
Ray B, 13 Février 2016

Stayed one night with a living social deal, was pleasantly surprised .Staff were very cheerful and helpful,we had three course meal which was very nice and tasty, also had afternoon tea and breakfast, hard too believe for the price.Hotel is in great place, near cinema ,Burger King and sport centre also not a bad pub, just hope the weather is more sunny next time.Go in looks better inside.

"Very pleasant stay at the Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel, Swansea"
julesbob, 13 Février 2016

Enjoyed a one night stay here on 11th February 2016, whilst meeting up with friends and family in the area. The pool area was nice and clean, and we enjoyed a couple of hours in the jacuzzi, sauna and pool. Our room was enormous, and very clean with plenty of cupboard space and good lighting. We had a partial sea view which would be lovely on a summer's day. Good internet connection at all times and breakfast was excellent. No complaints at all, we'll be back!

"The outside of the hotel is not that pretty!"
LinedancerNewbury, 10 Février 2016

The inside of the hotel was very nice, reception staff very friendly and helpful. Bar area and Dining room very nice and clean and food was very good seeing as they had to cater for a very large group. I was there on a dancing weekend and the main bit us dancers are interested in is the ballroom! This was a lovely room with a good size stage, however the dance floor either needs a good makeover or replacing altogether for something far better because if the hotel is going to cater for these type of dance weekends, the floor is what lets it down! It felt dusty and the wood was split and patched up with tape (!!!!!) in places which could make it very dangerous for some dance groups.

"Looks can be deceiving"
sueandphil13, 09 Février 2016

We didn't go at a weekend when the weather was at its best , and from the outside the hotel didn't look amazing In fact almost missed it . But to be honest we were pleasantly surprised as soon as we walked in.. The staff and surroundings on first impressions were very nice.our room was good too bed was comfy but did have a slight beddy smell to it but bedding nice and clean as was the room. No complaints we needed extra pillows and we got them very quick and with no problems at all. There is a nice swimming pool not massive but very useful when weather is yuk. Food was good too we were on a dance weekend so a lot of people had to be catered for and fed at the same time so didn't find a problem. Drinks a bit too pricey but only what you expect from a hotel I guess.the hotel is situated on a long stretch of sandy beach and I'm sure it's lovely when the sun shines . Good for walking and getting some lovely sea air .breakfast was very good plenty of food . Plenty of choice too.

"Would not choose it again"
MH_Ches, 07 Février 2016

The staff were really nice and friendly. The only problem is the lack of investment into the room maintenance. The room I was in was like having a trip back to the 70's. Breakfast was good. The hotel has good character, but lacks overall cleanliness.

"Terrible "afternoon tea""
Kaylie M, 05 Février 2016

I feel i need to let other people who are thinking of having "afternoon tea" in this place not to book. Me and a few friends booked this for a baby shower there was around 10 people all together with very little food. A small tray of finger sandwhich and 1 tray of welsh cakes, fruit scones and tea cakes (no butter provided). This coasting an expensive £7.50. We also had to pay for people who had to cancel due to unforseen circumstances. Disgracefull. I will not be visting this place again and advise anyone who is thinking to, dont bother.

"Very enjoyable stay"
20994227ann, 03 Février 2016

Stayed here for one night last Sunday, with a Living Social deal. We had an amazing stay! We were on the 3rd floor overlooking the beach and because the sea was quite rough, I spent ages looking out of the window at the waves. The room was very comfortable and well equipped and that and the bathroom spotlessly clean. Afternoon tea with a glass of Prosecco was included and that was yummy. We enjoyed the spa and then relaxed in our room before having our included table d'hote 3 course meal with a bottle of very nice wine. After a good night's sleep, once again we had to more delicious food! In all, we had a great stay. Each member of staff was fantastic being helpful, professional and friendly. A great stay, and we will definitely return

"Good Hotel"
RajivMiltonkeynes, 03 Février 2016

Very welcome atmosphere as soon as you enters. The decor need changing to make it modern. Staff are polite and very helpful. Restaurant needs to have more variety for vegetarian as very limited option. Also need to have competitive food cost compare to next door restaurants.

"Comfortable Stay"
greatvibes, 02 Février 2016

We stayed for a Saturday night whilst visiting family. We had a room on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel and sadly we had a view of the car park and housing estate. The room was clean and adequate. The hot water for the shower did take about 10 mins before it came through! The public areas have had some money spent on the furnishings but yes, overall it is a bit dated. The breakfast was very nice, with hot food cooked to order. For the price paid it was good value.

"Leaky windows, poor maintenance"
F S, 28 Janvier 2016

Arrived after dark and bedroom curtains were closed. Had disturbed night with constant dripping sound. Opened curtains in morning and got wet feet due to leaks. A known issue as towels had been placed on the window cill and hidden by the curtains. Complained, poor response. Hotel not full so why was this room allocated? A disgrace to the Best Western brand

"Too hot!!"
Michelle B, 24 Janvier 2016

We booked this hotel a cost of £103.50 for dinner bed and breakfast because it has a dog friendly policy. Your dog can go anywhere but the restaurant and rooms with a sea view (although why a dog would not appreciate a sea view is beyond me!) The food was quite good, the service was adequate. The room, although clean, was incredibly hot and we had a poor night's sleep. You can also hear what everyone is up to in the rooms surrounding you. The bed should have been consigned to the tip some time ago. We actually gave up trying to sleep in the early hours and attempted to get showered so we could leave and escape the heat but there was no hot water! This stay could have been so much better with very little effort. Our dog doesn't bark or make a mess so don't put us in a back room overlooking a council estate. Give the control of the heating to the person paying for the room and make sure there is always hot water and a firm bed. Never again at this Best Western or should I say Worst Western

"Good hotel, poor food"
DH14, 23 Janvier 2016

This is a good hotel, let down by poor food. First the good things. The location is nice, across the road from a great beach - good for early morning running or walking. The hotel looks grim from the outside but inside is well decorated. Rooms are spacious and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Check in and departure were both friendly and swift. The bar staff were welcoming and helpful. It's always nice to be made to feel welcome when having a well earned drink after a long day's work away from home. However the food was disappointing. Breakfast was fine, with a choice of hot food and a buffet. But in the evening we had a possibly the worst fish and chips I have ever had in Wales. The fish had a slightly pungent taste of too long in the freezer, with thin tasteless batter. The chips were thin shoestring chips that tasted of nothing. Again they tasted of freezer microwave cooking. And the peas were drab and tasteless. The other downside was a dripping ceiling in the corridor outside my room with a white bucket slowly filling up with the sound of Chinese water torture. Please sort out the leak and more importantly sort out the kitchen. I hope to go back and I hope to have proper fish and chips, with crisp fresh batter, soft flaky white fish and thick cut tasty home made chips. For a hotel in a nice location with good interior decor it doesn't seem much to ask.

"poor food"
peter S, 22 Janvier 2016

this is the second time I have stayed here the first time the food ok, this time it was very poor I had fish and chips with the grand title of catch of the day which DAY? the fish was not even 1/2 a inch thick the batter was thicker in places. I don't think the hotel could buy cheaper chip if they tried and please just put food on a plate not in a tin can. the rooms are ok but I will not stay here again.

"Five star staff"
Humphrey B, 17 Janvier 2016

We spent 5 nights at this lovely hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and genuinely caring. The hotel is across the road from a very long grassed area which is perfect for games etc. The beach where surfing takes place is again beautiful. The heart of Port Talbot is the steel works which lie to the east of the beach. The room was large and well equipped and in excellent condition. We have stayed there before and will stay again.

"A good option for a beach holiday"
Dc R, 09 Janvier 2016

Excellent venue for beach-side vacation: hotel is real value, jacuzzi and pool, marvellous breakfast , and a fitness venue to lose the weight you are certain to gain ! Come to Aberavon and live again!

"Pet Friendly, People Friendly, Pocket Friendly"
GwynHywel, 04 Janvier 2016

We stay here every year visiting dog un-friendly family and each year is the the same as the last. You are made welcome. Your dogs are made welcome. You are at ease all the time your are there. It's comfortable and reliable. Tip no. 1 You can take your breakfast in the lounge with your dogs at your feet (no dogs allowed in the restaurant)...and breakfast is really worth having! Tip no. 2 Dogs are also not allowed in the swimming pool/health centre areas so you might want to bring another adult to take shifts with. Tip no. 3 They try not to allocate rooms facing the sea to dog owners. Just be a little firm and you may get away with it if the Hotel is not particularly busy. Otherwise a room side-on the shore will still give you a partial view and save you the supplement. All the rooms are pretty much fitted to the same standard and a comfortable size. And if you order a morning newspaper - don't worry, it will arrive at your door long before you wake up! So the down-side? The Aberavon Beach Hotel has seen better days and is in need of investment. The carpets are beginning to show signs of being near to end-of-life and there are issues with the windows that you will notice if the weather is particularly stormy and wet. In summary, it still is the best pet-friendly hotel for miles that offers pet owners affordable comfort and relaxation.

"The most relaxed Christmas"
Donald L, 02 Janvier 2016

We recently spent five nights at Aberavon Beach Hotel over the Christmas period. It was fabulous. The food, entertainment and festive atmosphere made this Christmas one of the most relaxed and enjoyable. We met other guests who have stayed year after year, they enjoy it so much. We have booked for next year already.

"travel agents review ...."
dollyjamo, 29 Décembre 2015

Stayed here from 27.12.15 for 2 nights a little break with our dog, and what an excellent hotel lovely food, excellent rooms very clean and well presented, staff could not do enough for you very polite, the only thing that spoils this hotel is the run down area its located in, which is a shame as beach and promenade is beautiful. A good base maybe if you looking to stay out of Swansea but has good access if you have a car, we took a trip to Tenby too which took about 40 minutes, its a great set up the hotel have if you take a dog you can eat in the lounge area and take your breakfast here too, we did not eat in the restaurant but took a look and it was very nicely furnished to a high standard. the pool area was good too very clean and well maintained. overall a good experience its just a shame the outside and the area let it down but don't not let this put you off as inside its worth a visit.

"Excellent food, friendly staff and an overall wonderful experience."
Ice_Lolly2015, 26 Décembre 2015

Stayed here with my nan during a weekend of Christmas shopping, been here before and yet again a joyous experience. My nan had a best western points card (strongly recommended) and was able to upgrade to a beautiful room, overlooking the sea. The outside needs a lick of paint but don't let it put you off it's stunning and homely on the a inside, definitely worth a visit. The bar menu, shows a variety of delicious foods, within my few stays every meal from the bar has been very high quality and delicious in very generous portions, definitely worth the money. I can't find a single fault. The room service is excellent too! The breakfast is as well, variety of cereals cheeses toasts jams fruits and juices as well as the traditional cooked breakfast option. Very close to the sea, and a short drive to the local town. Definitely worth a stay, very very good :D

"Woefull wifi"
Michael B, 04 Décembre 2015

Large car park, good location on seafront, helpful staff, good size and quality room. Large choice for breakfast, but relatively small evening meal menu. Food was of good quality. Wifi in room 314 was worst I have experienced in B.W hotel. could not access it until after midnight after attempting on and off all evening and reporting it to reception. Sometimes it could not even connect to the network, and when it did it was without any wifi signal. Even the following morning it only worked erratically until I left at 10am.

"Don't judge a book......"
neemwalla, 23 Novembre 2015

Terrible looking building but I was impressed with the standards within. The decor of the restaurant, the carpets also on the room floors. The quality of the bathroom furniture and the beds were above three star standard. Plenty of free parking and easy disability access. The reception we received was efficient but cold. All the receptionists I saw seemed to share the same characteristic. Our "disabled" bedroom was adequate in size and the bed was large and comfortable. The room boasted a bathroom and also a wet room, with sadly, an adverse camber. We could not control the heating, so the room was a tad warm. The towels were large and plentiful. A nice touch was the provision of a china teapot and cups/saucers. The bar was well stocked with a seemingly reluctant attendant. Knowing our limits, we declined first courses and both of us had the tournedos medium rare, cooked correctly. The accompanying vegetables were spot on. We declined desserts. On the second night I asked for my tournedos rare and they were just that. My wife drooled over the Sea Bass. The waitresses were efficient but timid. Being the cheapskates that we are, we brought in our breakfasts; really, we have gone off cooked breakfasts having had to cook hundreds during our time as innkeepers. The Captain sets the tone of the ship; you are in the hospitality business but you lack warmth. I would have absolutely no hesitation in coming here again.

"Lovely view"
Terri W, 17 Novembre 2015

Stayed here for one night. Staff professional and welcoming. Room clean, very soft bed. Good size room with a decent shower. Great wifi. Breakfast was very slow. Was looking forward to continental breakfast but there was no croissants, rolls, sliced cold meat. So had the full Welsh instead. It was ok, cheap quality baked beans and bacon was tasteless and like leather. I would stay again, had a great view and lovely room but would give the breakfast a miss next time.

"Nice location, great wifi, good breakfast, great parking"
Terry S, 15 Novembre 2015

Everything was fine and met expectations - However room allocated (107) was very noisy - Lift outside room door and a clunking noise every 30 seconds throughout the night. Excellent Wifi and a nice hot breakfast almost made to order

"ECONOMICAL ALTERNATIVE TO PREMIER INN"
wallace269, 15 Novembre 2015

Stayed for 4 nights while on business in the area probably the only reason to visit this area.my room was on the 3rd and top floor of what from the outside is a very uninviting building.room was classed as a family room so was very spacious and clean, double bed was ok a settee which I presume turned into a pull out bed a desk with chair and a armchair all perfectly fine. the open plan wardrobe sited in the small hall outside the bathroom gave plenty of storage hanging space.bathroom had a bath with shower attachment all well kept and clean. bar area was in a large comfortable seated area with the dining room leading off, part of this room is a conservatory extension it was quite cold in the dining room at times so extra layers recommended. the food was mixed I had one dinner which was not to my taste and I asked for it to be changed it was without any fuss indeed the dining room supervisor is to be commended for the way she dealt with the situation. one morning at breakfast both mine and my colleagues cooked breakfast did not turn up we waited 35 minutes sadly we had to leave for work,I was told later it did arrive 5 minutes later. all in all this hotel is as some reviewers have noted does have its negatives but not one which would stop from staying in future and if I was paying the bill would be more than happy!

"Best Western Aberavon"
David B, 13 Novembre 2015

Place is a bit dated but clean and comfortable it is the staff that make this hotel a pleasant place to stay they are attentive friendly and accomodating without being intrusive. Have stayed twice at this hotel and would choose again if needing to stay in this area.

"Good value for money, pleasant staff"
TripMember111320151, 11 Novembre 2015

Stayed here numerous times over the past 18 months and have a good stay every time. Recommend a sea view room. Situated on the sea from with lovely views over the bay and a nice promenade to stroll along. Rooms on the small side but clean and comfortable. Nice indoor pool area and breakfasts are excellent.

"Room with a view"
John L, 08 Novembre 2015

We been traveling through Russia as you can see by reviews and London. Been before ,comfortable room great breakfast , make sure you ask for sea view its wonderful sunsets or the stormy sea and view over Swansea bay its stunning on clear days. I gave 4 stars and the Hotel earned it with friendly helpful staff. I recommend you stay here , myself and wife loved it .

"Family break"
Katie F, 07 Novembre 2015

On the outside hotel not very appealing but inside clean and comfortable. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Long opening for use of pool and jacuzzi. Right on seafront couple of nice restaurants near by that are child friendly. If not few take aways close by. Considering a new sports centre was being built next door was very quiet.

"Average "
LizzyT1978, 01 Novembre 2015

Stayed one night last minute booking. Booked online but on arrival it was suggested there were no doubles available. Decor is a little dated and generally in need of a facelift. Overpriced for a 3 star hotel in a disadvantaged area. Staff were pleasant. Very quiet despite there being a wedding party staying.

"Aberavon Beach Hotel, Port Talbot"
Susan R, 31 Octobre 2015

A brilliant stay at a brilliant hotel which, thank goodness, is dog friendly, very important for us with our dog, Pero.. Everyone so helpful there and the food good, all in all, an excellent stay once more x x

"Oh dear, only the car park let down a great stay!"
Tom F, 31 Octobre 2015

Excellent accessible room, good food and wonderfully helpful staff as I am (a reluctant) wheelchair user and my wife has restricted arm movement. But Oohhh! that car park! It is o.k. if you are able or disabled but only use your car to get in and out of the hotel.

"Beach front location, weird smell in room"
PeteMaunder, 27 Octobre 2015

We had an overnight stop in port talbot, convenient between cardiff and swansea. Cardiff was full so we found a mid point. It was nice, clean, warm and next to the beach but it was very dated inside and out. The room needed tidying up, and updating but it was very friendly there and weenjoyed our stay.

"Needs some help in getting the ratings up"
Julie B, 27 Octobre 2015

The hotel (once you have passed over the dismal exterior) has the foundations to aim higher in its ratings. Some (not all) of the staff have the energy to help but there is a lot of work to do. Negatives - dogs allowed to be off lead and sit in the middle of the bar area. We have a dog but I would never allow it to go up to a diner's plate and sniff it whilst they are eating. There needs to be ground rules. I was told I had to wait 40 minutes for dinner because there was a local 'do' on - only for it to be served it in 5 minutes. No rewards points for booking through LateRooms ... So not a loyal customer then Best Western? The mode of booking shouldn't detract from the willingness to be loyal.

"Dismal"
franyone, 26 Octobre 2015

Visited this hotel as a wedding guest. The foyer was quite nice when we passed the cheap tiling right at the entrance. Just outside the entrance were discarded bottles and cans and endless cigarette ends. No signage to wedding party other than a board in the middle of the foyer with pictures of the bride and groom. Wandered around for a while as no one manning reception. Found party by following other guests. I asked for ice in drinks, was told they had ran out of ice 'really' at 8pm. Sat at table and strong smell of vomit. Several guests complained of this. Glass collector picked up unfinished drinks on several occasions even when we said we had not finished using them as we were ordering bottles of wine. Food was served as buffet style. All hot dishes were cold.

"Friendly"
KevH19, 23 Octobre 2015

Stayed here for two weeks whilst working in the area. On arrival the hotel did look a bit dilapidated and is need of a makeover. Once inside it was much better. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially 'Big Sam' behind the bar. The rooms are clean and tidy but could do with air conditioning as the room that I had (113) was extremely warm even with the window left open all night in October. Food is good and is reasonably priced. The only downside was the breakfast which did seam a bit chaotic and slow when ordering. There was usually three waitresses / waiters taking orders but one was for drinks one for food and one to bring it from the kitchen. If you tried to order food from the drink waitress you was asked to wait until she came to the table and vies versa if requesting drinks from the food waitress. Get this problem sorted and the stay would have been faultless.

"Don't judge this book by it's cover"
LancashireRamble, 16 Octobre 2015

I must admit that when I pulled up at this hotel, my heart sank. The exterior of the hotel is a real let down. However, don't let this put you off. As soon as you step through the front doors the hotel is super. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is lovely. Breakfast is excellent and the service is swift and courteous. Rooms are good and some have outstanding views of the sea, as the hotel is right on the sea front. Each time I've stayed, I found the rooms to be quiet at night, with no noisy children running up and down or rowdy revellers coming back late at night and waking everyone up. It is also excellent value for money.

"Best worst hotel "
jaxCambs, 10 Octobre 2015

What can i say , first impressions last, hotel is extremely tired and out dated , not to be put off we booked in , reception clean and friendly , pool has seen much better days and to be honest it wasn't for me, room on first impression was clean and tidy, travelled here from Cambridge for a ghost hunt so it was time to drop bags and go , returned to the hotel at 4am and went to room , only to find mattress on the bed , well stains on the mattress, wouldn't let my dog sleep on the mattress it was disgusting, photos below , so ended up sleeping on the floor as it was the cleaner option , breakfast what can I say here , waited over 40 mins to be given a cup of tea , no organisation and people being served before others, order for food taken , 1 hour later it finally arrived , food was good but not worth the wait , will never return

"Away from the Kids"
Janet M, 09 Octobre 2015

A relaxing week after surgery. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Was out of the holiday season but there was always plenty of staff to look after everyone. The exterior of the hotel Is not very appealing but once inside everything was fine and clean. The view from the room windows overlooks the sea about 100 yards away, with a lovely prom. with excellent disabled persons facilities.

"Best western abaravon "
Michelle D, 09 Octobre 2015

As many people have already stated, it's not exactly appealing from the outside, but once you get inside it takes on a whole new feel. It's well decorated, comfortable and clean. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and extremely helpful. The restaurant was lovely and once again the staff were great. I chose to have bar meals in the evening, and there was a great choice, and not overpriced at all. The rooms were very comfortable (I was in room 315) with great facilities available. I could even swivel my television to watch in bed at night. The beach over the road is absolutely stunning and I would imagine in the summer months it gets really busy. Great hotel and I would definitely return.

"Better inside than out"
Polz, 06 Octobre 2015

We stayed here for one night. It's close to M4 easy to find and the walk along the prom is pleasant enough. It looks, from the outside as if it could do with a facelift. Inside is ok, it is 3 star. We didn't go in swimming pool but it looked nice. The rooms were clean and tidy. It was only September but we could have done with a bit of heat in the evening, both in our room and the bar area. We ate in the bar at night but were a bit disappointed with the choice as the fryer had broken down and waited over 40 minutes. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice, but service again was slow. Free internet was a plus.

"All because of the Rugby World Cup!"
Janet H, 04 Octobre 2015

This hotel was not one of my choosing but was found by my company's hotel booking firm when I gave up on finding anywhere near my work location due to the Rugby World Cup. I had never visited this area before and it was a good half hours' travel each day to my project location. On arrival I was as I imagine many people are, rather unsure about the outside appearance of the building. It is somewhat dated and tired looking and not entirely in keeping with the location. However, once you are in through the doors it takes on a whole different feel. Pretty much what I would expect of a 3-4 star hotel - pleasant and reasonably comfortable. Reception book-in was welcoming and friendly - they even know how long I was staying (not many people stay for 9 nights I don't imagine!). Room again, pretty standard 3 star accommodation. Double bed, desk/dressing table, bedside cabinet, two tub chairs and circular coffee table and open wardrobe and shelving for clothes. Bathroom very standard - small but big enough, bath, over-bath shower, WV and wash hand basin. Clean towels etc. There is a hairdryer in the room and tea and coffee making facilities including a teapot. Bed linen white, clean and soft. Bed fairly firm and comfortable. I had a problem with the room being too hot when I got back in the evenings due to it facing the sun and the window being closed by staff during the day. It has however now cooled down a bit and if I really wanted to I could borrow a fan from reception. Breakfast during the week is from 7.00 am and I needed to leave before 7.00 am. This was not a problem, I was able to go at 6.30 am for continental breakfast. The breakfast provision is very good with something for everyone. Have had three meals in the bar and the food is fine. Not home made fayre but very hot and plenty of it. Bar and waiting on service not the best I have experienced but everyone is polite and pleasant. Despite my trepidation when arriving, the place is 'growing on me' and I think I would stay here again if I was working in this area. It is nice to be able to cross the road and be on the lengthy promenade for some fresh air and there are a few good places to eat within a stones throw as well. The swimming pool is OK. It is showing its age and is not tiled so looks a bit grotty in places but it is cleaned every morning and I was able to swim my lengths and have a good shower afterwards in the very small but adequate changing rooms.

"Why don't the management take note of the reviews and get the outside cleaned up?"
aquaqueenStaines, 29 Septembre 2015

The outside needs a good pressure wash on the brick work and the glass roof. The inside was fine we where a little unlucky getting a room over the car park which was quite small those with rooms with sea view are larger. The food was good and the waiting staff very helpful. It could do with some entertainment at the weekend.

"one night on business"
Jackie D, 29 Septembre 2015

Stayed one night on business and very glad I did. Hotel is nothing to look at from outside but reception bar and restaurant and pool all clean and spacious. Staff friendly and helpful. Good freshly cooked to order breakfast although as previously noted there were no breakfast rolls. What sets the hotel apart is its superb location right opposite the beach. Not much else around though. Room was adequate with flat screen tv and usual toiletries.

"good hotel let down by staffing deficiencies"
Graham D, 28 Septembre 2015

We enjoyed our stay and it is certainly a superb hotel for those with dogs, given the location and facilities, but there were some issues arising from less than satisfactory staff responses. We had booked a suite. As I subsequently discovered at this hotel a suite means two interconnecting rooms. However the receptionist appeared not to know this and when I challenged the room allocated she said it was a suite and was bigger than other rooms. I mentioned the connecting door but this did not elicit any response. On check out the staff member apologised and offered adequate compensation -pity she was not available when we arrived! On the Saturday evening I asked the bar staff if food was being served and was told it was. When ordering ten minutes later the chef had closed the bar food service to concentrate on a large party in another part of the hotel - seemingly the communication between chef and bar staff had not anticipated such an event! These are minor irritations and did not distract too much from the enjoyment of our stay. The hotel offers a pleasant stay and good value.
