The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room was clean and modern, and the breakfast was great! The location was very convenient when it came to dining and shopping options. The only thing we wished the property had was EV charging.
Please watch if you book thru the app this hotel charged me for my full stay as soon as I booked weeks in advance of stay and when I asked for a check out one day shorter than booked they would not credit me for the day. Stayed 9 days instead of ten. Other than this the hotel was clean and would have stayed again on future work / pleasure trips
Travelling with partner - nice, clean hotel with good basic complimentary breakfast. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable, had a room with a king bed, sofa and small balconey. Easy access off the highway from ferry and directly across the street from SuperStore. Staff was friendly and helpful at all times! Will definitely stay again when we come to the Island!
Rooms, breakfast and Internet were all satisfactory. Valuables in the vehicle parked in your parking lot not so much. We were taking our son to University the next morning, when woke up and his transportation while he's away, his mountain bike, had been stolen out of the back of our truck, and our truck had been scratched as well as the back window.
Everything was good except check in. My sister was extremely sick and asked for early check in at 11 am , offered paying extra, they did not let us!!! We stayed at car with pain till check in time!!!! But the rest was good. Clean Breakfast was good too
Hands down the best hotel my family has stayed at. Outstanding staff; they were courteous, informative, generous with their time and made our stay very enjoyable! The breakfast included had an excellent selection and quality. The staff helping with breakfast were also exceptional. Had the queen jetted tub suite- it was very clean and modern. A favourite hotel of ours! Lots of good restaurants within walking distance, a grocery store accross the road, and a mall close by. We have only good things to say about this hotel.
We enjoyed staying at this hotel for many reasons. The staff has always been great and the location is ideal for us. Clean comfortable and quiet rooms every time. The included breakfast is a fast and easy way to start our day. My spouse has some food allergies and is able to enjoy breakfast here. The value at the hotel is good. I gave it a 4/5 because I am always going to want a better deal
This is my go-to hotel when working in Nanaimo. The rooms are clean. The breakfast is fresh and the hotel is convenient to all places I need to go.
Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely awesome. Internet was spotty. Staff was very friendly.
I was traveling for work and after having a terrible experience the night before at a different hotel, it was wonderful to have such a nice relaxing night. The bed was comfortable and even though we were right by the highway it was very quiet. I had a great sleep.
Great staff, very caring and accommodating. Front staff paid very close attention to details you tell them. Location is very central too and amenities are within walking distance. Lots of good restaurants close to the hotel
The desk clerks(Logan, Tyler & Dryden) were professional, friendly & helpful! My room was comfortable & spacious! It was nice to have a balcony but too cold to enjoy it! My personal complaints are that the pillows, though puffy, collapse as flat at pancakes when one's head hits them! Secondly, the digital readouts on the various devices are super bright . That being said , I found the breakfast quite satisfying & George kept things humming along, The students in our group however, found bugs of varying degrees between their sheets & on their pillows! Some even found stains ! This freaked them out & led to hysteria & lack of sleep! I hope that this phenomenon was just a one off? 🤔🙏🏻
Hotel was updated, clean and very nice for our accommodations. Front staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast room was very spacious, clean, good selection of foods and beverages and seating was comfortable.
We were very satisfied with this hotel, from the initial greeting from the staff to the last day we check out. The room and the hotel was extremely clean throughout our entire stay. This was our 2nd visit to Nanaimo, and 2nd visit to this hotel. We visit Nanaimo yearly for family and we will be rebooking with this hotel next year.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and well looked after. The beds were really comfortable, towels etc in the bathroom were very good quality. If in Nanimo again would definitely stay here.
An older Hotel that has had a lot of updates and Reno's done to it since we last stayed here. The inside and outside is well kept. It is located very centrally in North Nanaimo with lots of stores and places to eat at close by. There is an amazing Korean place that only takes 10 minutes to walk to. Also walking distance to pretty much anything you would need. Costco and Superstore are also very close. Lots of parking. The rooms have been updated nicely. Very clean rooms -housecleaning does an awesome job. But you do need to request it each day. The rooms can be a bit noisy with traffic so request the third floor. Breakfast is provided but is pretty basic. The only real disappointment was it was hard to get a later check out of an hour. The front staff finally did provide it but I had to ask a couple of times. Late check out was requested as the business centre is very small and not appealing at all. Only one person can effectively use it at a time.
All the Staff is 100% engaged in thier roles and were freindly and polite - Location is like brand new so no issues in room or otherwise - Located across from Super Store for convenience and very close to Departure Bay Terminal.
The hotel is an older building that has been renovated and remodelled. The rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. Having a balcony with chairs and a table is nice to relax at. The breakfast was very good as was the service. I would stay here again and recommend to others for a great alued stay.
Was a great stay, friendly staff, excellent location, nice full breakfast included, I enjoyed the hotel, room was very clean, and close to mall which was nice walking distance to shops, highly recommended
We were fortunate to have booked an overnight stay at the Best Western Northgate. The front desk were friendly snd so very helpful as we were travelling with our boat. They personally directed us to the parking available for the boat. The rooms were beautifully clean and the beds were very comfortable. The continental breakfast was very good and lacked nothing , both hot ( eggs , waffles, bacon)and cold items were available, in a lovely bright breakfast room. Again wonderful cheerful staff. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Nanaimo.
Best Western hotel signage on Auld Avenue suggests you turn right onto a road that only leads to a nondescript parking lot. However, the Best Western building is then visible in the distance, so a bit of 'cross country' eventually leads to the entrance. Breakfast location is gorgeous, food selection is excellent, and the support staffer is friendly and helpful.
Our stay at the Best Western Northgate Inn exceeded our expectations in every way. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was incredibly high quality for a hotel breakfast, with tons of variety. The staff was beyond amazing and every single person we encountered went above and beyond in making sure we had a comfortable stay. We will definitely stay here again.
This was a fine hotel: the staff was all exceptionally helpful and friendly. Breakfast was as expected. The bathroom felt brand new, which is a treat in any hotel. Our room overlooked a little grassy courtyard which was nice, and having a balcony was wonderful considering so many hotels won't even let you open a window. The only negatives were that being on the side with the courtyard was right next to the busy street (not a problem from sleep, just noisy on the balcony), and no pool.
Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable! Free breakfast, and just off the highway. Amenities surround it! What more can you want! Staff is friendly, polite and helpful Worth the stay if you're coming through Nanaimo
Beautiful property excellent for a quiet getaway Staff were excellent and knowledgeable about local attractions and services nearby. Made me feel at home, even though I was half a country away. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.
Stayed with my family (and small pet) during a weekend soccer tournament. Hotel is very well maintained and the breakfast was a huge time saver!!! All staff were very professional and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for location and convenience to major roads!!!
What a great little hotel. Very clean, wonderful bed and pillows, great breakfast (with room) and super friendly helpful staff.. on checkin and in breakfast room. Across the street from superstore, liquor, restaurants. Would stay again for sure.
Close to shopping mall and restaurants, this BW was perfect for our one night stay. Very clean, polite, helpful front desk staff. Wifi was 100%.. Breakfast just okay. Waffle maker, yogurt and muffins. Walking distance to Brown's Social Club restaurant. Would stay here again & fully recommend.
Staff is great. Beds comfortable. Pillows are really poofy - be forewarned. Breakfast was meh - fake eggs, white bread and bagels - no rye, multigrain or gluten free options - very weak coffee. Little fruit to choose from.
always lovely to be greeted with a smile by the friendly staff through out the property. Property and rooms clean and comfortable. Continental Breakfast has lots of choices and very well maintained. our place to stay in Nanaimo.
Our 4th visit to this hotel. All. Were for eye appointments, it is 15 mins from the hospital so very convenient. The place was very clean, the room looked just redone. Very helpful and friendly staff, they even supplied umberallas and snow brushes (which were needed). The breakfast was yummy and had great variety of choices even one of the neat toasters that feeds itself!
We stayed at this property for two days and found the entire staff to be very attentive and helpful, room clean and quiet. Everyone was professional in the midst of our first major snow storm of the year !
I've stayed at Best Western Northgate several times now and have had a great experience. It's my go-to hotel in Nanaimo! Very clean, updated, friendly staff, and the breakfast included is great. Good value for money spent!
We took a mini vacation and stayed in the Best Western in Nanaimo B.C. The hotel was clean, quiet and the service was awesome! We stayed for 2 nights and found it a very pleasant stay! The breakfast menu was excellent and the food was very tasty. There was a great selection and the staff in the room were so helpful and accommodating!
Reno has turned this hotel into a very stayable comfortable place in Nanaimo north end. Its clean easy access tons of parking friendly staff. Close to Woodgrove shopping centre 10 minutes to ferry service & 3 blocks off inland island highway.
A nice, attractive place. It was close to Starbucks, a grocery store, and the highway. It was handy to visit the places we wanted to go. When we checked in staff was very helpful and friendly. I enjoyed talking to them.
very clean and quiet. professional and friendly and accommodating staff. nice breakfast. good variety of quality food. close to downtown and the waterfront and the main highway. easy parking safe neighborhood.
We just arrived to the hotel with no reservations. The price for the night was almost $500. If we didn't travel all day we wouldn't have stayed there. Too expensive for us. Tip - make sure you pre-book your room. Our room had a leak in the bathroom. The staff immediately gave us a complementary alternate room. Staff went over and above to make our stay pleasurable.
Hotel was very basic, no pool/jacuzzi and not a good area. Very overpriced! Don't let the word balcony fool you, they should not have balconies at this hotel as they all face parking lots or dumpy strip mall. It was clean and did have a friendly staff.
Excellent customer service, clean, convenient location, great restaurants within walking distance. Close to grocery store, parks nearby. Very comfortable bed. Didn't stay for breakfast but it's a nice to have option.
Due to the lack of decent properties in Nanaimo, your basically forced to stay here. Checked in..Room fridge was full of rotten food & spilled sports drink. Second room bothe iron & ironing board Broken...It's basic stuff people. It's crystal clear that the cleaning staff don't care. God I hope the Marriott opens soon. As a business traveller we keep you going during any off seasons..Give this place a pass
This is a great little hotel! Very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful! The room was done up well and all amenities worked! The only problem was the lack of clear indicator signs fir entrance to the property… couldn't tell where the turn actually was
Outdated Pet Policy for a newer/renovated hotel that is owned and operated by Powerhouse Enterprises LTD. The only allow pets in certain rooms in certain areas of the hotel and not all rooms are “pet friendly” which is the way most hotels these days now operate. Booked a room through Hotels.ca for an executive King and request a pet friendly room. Hotel changed the booking to a cheaper regular room with two queens and stated they were unable to refund the difference or refund the room. Had to contact the booking website who spent over 30 minutes on the phone with them sorting it out and getting the room difference refunded to us. Also, no restaurant in the hotel or around the area and hotel right on the main highway so lots of traffic noise during the night. Room heated up but the bathroom remained as cold as ice during the night
Great hotel if staying in the mid island area. Central to dining and shopping areas. Many interesting areas to explore within hours of Nanaimo. Relaxing area to enjoy if travelling to points beyond Nanaimo.
First of all we made a reservation The service was amazing I called a week before I went to make sure they don't use any sensitive scent products Do you even checked with their manager that was so nice of them they said they did not use any products that smell We only stayed one night We did reserve a room for 160 before taxes We don't come to the normal very often nanaimo This is the only hotel I consider Everything is very nicely remodelled do you even give me a ground for a room I did ask for ground floor room all the rooms are balconies We did check in We can't figured How to turn on the heat in room The front desk staff came and helped us turn on the heat that was so nice of them There was two people there when we checked in working at desk The beds are so comfortable pillows are so comfortable I like the showers I like the bathroom tap I like they good water pressure in shower and tap had good water temperatures water is good Whole is very nice Reminders The hallways A very nice The rooms are as spotless The hotel is spotless . Outside out the hotel was very nice and clean They a free breakfast in am They was waffle and hot egg and hot meal and they was cereal and they was coffee and fruit juice and they fruit apple or orange They even free bottles of water and breakfast attend it was very friendly and she was make small take with the guests They was no pool and not hot tub I am think was exercise room . Plus we did ask front desk for recommendations for supper This hotel deserves a five star
Excellent hosts, the were helpful, fun and professional, they were full of excitement and energy - just what we needed after a very stressful journey t that point. We has a wonderfully restful room, and had an extremely early morning with a very long journey ahead, the team made sure we got the rest we needed. I only wish we could have stayed for a longer visit
Stop off during larger travel, good clean rooms, convenient location.. Water pipes and heating and cooling system made it difficult sleeping at night.. my fault I didn't complain, but at 1:09am not sure what they could do
Nice hotel, well located, clean, very helpful staff, ok breakfast (except I spilt the waffle mixture)…… but….. Awful lighting. In these days of cheap led lights, why not have a few more, And I must admit, a personal gripe, the mattress is so soft that I awoke with a sore back. The staff looked up and recommended a tiny sushi restaurant (do they have restaurants with only two tables?) which was good. Thank you.
The Best Western Northgate Inn is clean and comfortable. It is in a great location if you are visiting Nanaimo and the mall and close to many good restaurants. I recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff is friendly and the free breakfast was great.
Great hotel, very clean and well maintained. Bed was very comfortable and pillows were perfect. Nice having a balcony to sit out on to enjoy the outdoors. Being able to have the door open at night for fresh air is a bonus. I hate staying in a hotel that has very minor window opening
Hotel and room clean and organized, vending machines ,ice machine .King bed and pillows were amazingly comfortable.wigi worked perfect and you can walk to restaurants.i went to this little Thai spot next to the hotel and it was excellent food ,I would stay here again anytime.far better than the BW downtown
booked online for 1 night, called the hotel to extend my stay for another night and stated that I needed the same room, that I couldn't move as I had my elderly father with me and didn't want him moving our stuff as I was going to be away all day to attend a course. The lady I spoke with never informed me that my request couldn't be accommodated and I didn't find out until I checked in. So I had to chose a room that was adequate - my elderly father wasn't comfortable at all, and to make things worse that room had a mildewy/musty smell coming from the kitchenette sink. When checking out I was racially profiled...
Jon was amazing. He was incredibly helpful and made our stay a fantastic experience. He went above and beyond for us and he is the reason I'm scoring our stay excellent. I spoke with him on the phone when I booked the room and he was very informative and knowledgeable. We had an issue with the room we were originally booked into and he resolved the situation for us immediately. Truly one of the best customer experiences I've had in a very long time!
Close to everything, shopping, dining. Staff - very accomodating, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable. Room - Very clean, fridge, microwave, coffee, tea. Bathroom - very clean ... good shower/Tub Beds - comfy .... lots of pillows
I'm a Platinum Select member of the Best Western hotels. I booked a room in this beautiful hotel on the website. My family checked in with David at the front desk. This is a very nice property in a convenient location. It is well maintained and very professionally run! David and his fellow staff delivered five star service at every point. We can't thank him enough. The hotel is well kept, very clean and close attention is given to COVID cleaning protocols. All Front desk staff are courteous, professional and friendly. We are delighted with our experience.
Clean rooms, good location. Staff were friendly. I mentioned I was travelling with an infant & to our surprise they put a crib in our room. I thought that was super sweet. Only downside to the hotel is the parking lot.
Courteous friendly staff, clean rooms and great service. Great location with ample parking. Due to covid the fitness centre was closed so we were not able to use the fitness centre. Breakfast was provided and it was sufficient.
My wife and I stayed here in January and we were upgraded to the jacuzzi suite as I am a diamond select member with BW rewards. It was a nice gesture and we really appreciated it. Overall, this hotel is a bit dated and could use some TLC but it's clean and we found the staff to be pleasant. I'm not sure the price of the rooms is really reflective of the style of rooms but I guess things are getting more expensive everywhere. We would stay here again.
excellent staff and accommodation snowed during the night, complimentary snow brush supplied extra complimentary waters and towels second time we have stayed there and both have been a pleasure for sure
This is a solid 3 star hotel in Nanaimo with clean rooms, affordable rates, good service. The hotel is close to key amenities in Nanaimo including grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping. Having more amenities such as a sauna/hot tub and fitness centre would improve the experience. The free breakfast buffet needs to be improved. Overall, a solid experience for what you pay.
Great hotel with fabulous staff. we stay here often and are never disappointed. The location is perfect central to all the big box stores and Woodgrove Mall, Woodgrove theatre. Easy parking for our larger vechicle
This location was perfect for our plans and easy to find. Check in was fast and the cleanliness was impressive. The breakfast area had options for every type of eater and appetite. Definitely looking forward to the next stay.
Stayed here for business. It is close to shopping and some restaurants, not much else close to the property at the north end of Nanaimo. Rooms are nice, breakfast is included, but it is pretty basic because of Covid protocols (packaged muffins, bacon, eggs from a carton I am sure).
The rooms have silver fish. This is not the first time experiencing this issue (but we have received an immediate response in the past). No support from management at all. It's disappointing re the lack of concern or care. The quality of service has definitely declined at this hotel - we have been long standing customers for many many years. Its unfortunate that we have to cut our trip short.
We had a comfortable stay at the Best Western Northgate in Nanaimo and I would be happy to stay there again. It was a quick trip but we enjoyed our clean suite and especially loved the pillows! The breakfast room was clean and kept stocked by the friendly staff and we had some of the BEST sausage and eggs ever. I'm kind of picky with eggs and these were so good! I did the express check in and that was fantastic: Just told them my name, showed them my ID and we were given a key. Check out was super simple as well, just basically dropping off the key cards. We would definitely stay there again.
Very clean. Good selection for breakfast, AMAZING breakfast hostess! Wish they were able to do a later check out, but other than that it was a super good stay. Slept like a rock and didn't hear much of any other guests.
Hotel beds were so comfy. Breakfast buffet was good. Service was great. My mom uses a walker and it was easy for her to get in the room. They had bath chairs to use in the shower. Also nice to have a balcony.
A quiet, clean and conveniently located hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. We were there two night on family business. Parking was some distance from our room but not a problem.
incompetent useless staff. unorganized and untrained. check in with a company took over an hour, and I left a key for my GF with her name on it and key was thrown away and she had ordeal getting into the room....horrible experience
clean rooms and nice sized breakfast area - could use a toaster though. Even though I didn't face the highway this time I was near it and had to resort to earplugs to stay asleep. Staff very helpful with eating places nearby
Room was clean, bed was comfortable. On the main floor so u heard all the hallway noise. I think the hotel thought is was on some kind of resort. Over $400 dollars a night for a basic room, no added upgrades for being Diamond Select rewards member, thank goodness i had enough points to pay for my room
We love this hotel. It is clean and the staff is so friendly. It is in the perfect location close to shopping etc. The beds are so comfortable. The breakfast is great. This is our go to hotel whenever we stay in Nanaimo.
The entire property was well taken care of and CLEAN! In these days that is extremely important and I will return and chose Best Western wherever I travel. Even when I had my pets with me I felt well taken Care of and had no problems settling the pets in. Thank you Northgate in Nanaimo!!!
Wonderful people and fancy room, great coffee and breakfast! I needed a place to stay while my kitchen at home was being renovated, and I just started phoning hotels.... right away they answered the phone so cheerful and found a pet friendly room available here at the Best Western in Nanaimo BC - will definitely stay here again ♥️
Outstanding: Clean, friendly staff. Cassandra on the front desk was extra helpful. Great dog friendly place to stay. Egg sandwich breakfast not the best. Should serve with a plate to microwave. Will visit again!
Travelling for work and stayed here because it was close to the office. The room was very clean and comfortable, the internet was fast, and breakfast was good. If you are looking for a hotel with a beautiful view this isn't your place (my room overlooked a gas station) but the service was excellent and all amenities were good
Will stay here again. Location is great, walking distance to shops and restaurants. Friendly and courteous staff. Reassuring Covid protocols in practice. Clean rooms, firm and comfortable mattress was appreciated.
Was a lovely stay and a quiet night. Overall a nice spot, if a little pricy. I've stayed in better properties for quite a bit less, and I've spent a lot of time in hotels over the last several years. Still, over all, I'd stay here again. It's clean and the staff are exemplary. The breakfast room is great, though it was closed due to COVID this time. If staying in the winter, be aware that there is a newer heat pump system that takes at least five minutes to begin working. I was sleep deprived and cold when I showed up and I'd thought the system was broken lol. Once it was warmed up, it was nice and toasty.
Very clean inside and out. Room was the cleanest hotel room I've ever been in. I thought it was just renovated. Outstanding work by all the staff to keep the Hotel clean and safe. It will be nice when we can enjoy a meal in the rooms. Steven
Very friendly helpful staff, spotlessly clean comfortable rooms. Good location easy to find. This is our preferred hotel in Nanaimo. We have never been disappointed in our stay. Some rooms have no freezer in the fridges.
My wife and I stayed for one night. Appears to be relatively new property and close to the highway with access to many stores and restaurants in the area. Our 3rd floor room, with a balcony, was clean and comfortable. Good size bed, a sofa and large enough TV. The front desk staff provided friendly , quick and easy check in and out services. We recommend this hotel.
Clean, well maintained hotel with grab and go breakfast (during Covid19) to start your visit to Northeastern Vancouver Island. Easy access to/ from highway. This hotel is directly across from superstore and a block away from Woodgrove centre, costco and other shops so you can stock up for your trip. Also close to restaurants and coffee shops. Room has the largest fridge i have every seen in a motel or hotel, microwave, coffee maker, and safe. Staff is accommodating and fulfilled our request for a quiet room.
amazing customer service. Rooms were excellent and staff go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. We were traveling with our small dog they had a beautiful grassy patch to walk our dog . Overall an awesome place to stay
So the ac light is so bright when it's on and it's at the top of the far wall. So bright it's blinding, when you're trying to sleep. And if it's hot out and you need air conditions, not only is it too bright, it blows unidirectional right at you airing on the couch, or I'm the bed.
The welcome we received at this location and the service from the staff was stellar. I've never felt so welcome and at home. The front desk experience, the housekeeping. Everything was friendly and enthusiastic. With Covid restrictions in place everything about travel is strange, but at this property we felt right at home. I have a very bad back, and I found the beds here to be a bit too firm for me, but that in no way spoiled anything - it was a good sleep and always comfortable beds at Best Westerns. This location is in the north part of the city so not for someone wanting to be in the center of town, but everything is close, there is plenty of easy parking and I far prefer this to their downtown property.
Overnight stay in the time of COVID - so lots of precautions being taken. Excellent front desk person who gave us good suggestions for local dinner options and a beautiful park 10 mins drive away. She had a kind demeanour with our kids, helping them with hot chocolate sachets and a kettle so they could enjoy a treat. This BW is very standard in terms of room fitout, beds, bathroom - the little balcony is a bonus but it does look over the adjacent highway. Everything spotlessly clean. My only complaint is lack of somewhere like a patio outside or a rooftop deck area where we could sit and enjoy a takeout meal or play cards with our kids - that kind of amenity would be great in the current circumstances.
Convenient location, clean. Easy access to highways. Service was good, and some passable restaurants and shopping are in walking distance. Dog friendly, but only a few ground-floor rooms. Not much else to recommend this place.
The concierge at the front desk was lovely, I think her name was Diotima. She was super nice and helpful and very genuine. The rest of the hotel was pretty nice as well and we enjoyed our stay. Thanks Dio!
Everything , especially the room was outstanding clean n quiet. Room 209 was such a large spacious room, their heating n chilling was so easy to do . Loved the stay there. Would tell everyone about it
The location is terrific for our purposes.. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were well appointed, clean and the beds super comfortable. We had a very restful sleep. The breakfast was exceptional and the staff went out of their way to find us 2 bananas when they had run out. Check in and check out was a breeze. We spent 3 nights there and would certainly recommend this hotel. It was a great stay.
The BW Northgate is not a new hotel but has been renovated (lobby). The rooms are clean and tidy and all amenities functioned well. The front desk staff here are excellent! they are very friendly, personable and helpful. There are venues for food nearby but not a lot else (that I knew of). This is the second time I have stayed here and although it will be a while before I come back, I will definitely check into this hotel.
had a great check in as the hotel was able to get me in around 10:30 am to drop off my bags before heading out for meetings. The room was clean. The staff were great and the breakfast was nothing fancy but just what I needed for my short stay.
Check in was quick and easy. Employees were friendly. Hotel room had an ecofriendly coffee machine. The breakfast was surprisingly enjoyable, make sure to go early enough to get the hot food options. The 2 person jetted tub was fabulous!! Hotel is across from a grocery store. Walking distance to the mall. Pizza store in the adjacent parking lot. If i was in the area i would stay there again.
The best hotel in Nanaimo, BC Staying in this hotel for last 8 years on my business trip to this city. Always get the excellent service like complimentary upgrade to kitchenette rooms. Awesome front desk people always puts the guest first.
Thank you so much to the friendly hotel staff for accommodating our family when our car broke down on the way home to Vancouver. Especially to the lady who took our reservation over the phone and upgraded us to the family suite. That was an incredibly heart-warming gesture and so helpful in our unexpected adventure!! The hotel room was clean and comfortable, definitely more than what we needed or were expecting. Our kids loved the waffle maker at breakfast!
Best Western Northgate is the best experience we have ever had at a hotel . we stayed over Christmas and we had forgotten to get potatoes on Christmas eve and by the time we remembered everything was closed , we had asked one of the staff at the front desk if they knew any where open and this is where it goes above and beyond what any staff had to do , one of the ladies at the desk asked how many we needed , she went home and grabbed about 5 pounds of potatoes for us so we could have them for Christmas dinner . it touched our hearts to the extreme , she made a Christmas that was a sad one ( recently lost my father in law ) a lot better. Thank you for your kindness it meant the world to us .
The friendliness of the staff, the room itself and the amenities were fantastic. I would highly recommend this hotel. The complimentary breakfast was much appreciated. We will definitely be back again.
I was very impressed by the friendly service at this location, I found the staff very accommodating and friendly, and the room was clean, comfortable and we'll appointed. The included breakfast was surprisingly good, with hot options, a make-your-own waffle station, and lots of the standard 'continental' breakfast fare.
My husband and I stayed for a golf trip. This hotel renovated very nicely and a hotel's breakfast was so good. We had a room which one was a little bit of noisy because of the ice machine near my room. Anyway, they changed the room quickly and We were satisfied. Any problem in the room. All people who works there were so kind and doing well.
Very pleasant stay. Staff were great, and the location, which is just off the main Highway, is close to almost any kind of store or service one would be looking for. Room was clean and comfortable ... even had a balcony. Could have had another picture on the walls to make it more homey. Beds were very comfy. Free breakfast is included, but is only served from 6:00-9:00. So not convenient if you are not an early riser. However, I would definitely recommend this hotel for a leisure or business stay.
Great updated hotel with friendly and efficient staff who were very accommodating to our needs. Just love staying here and each time we so wanted to stay way longer then we had time for. This hotel is so close to shopping and a variety of restaurants which in my books is a big plus. A 5 star hotel in my books.
was very impressed with the staff, the look of the hotel and the rooms. the breakfast was very nice not just pastries. The noise room to room was very minimal, GREAT stay. the lobby was very inviting !
I stayed for two nights at this Best Western as I was doing a few presentations in the area. The hotel was clean, the breakfast was good, the service and staff were excellent and the best was comfortable. I would stay at this hotel again.
I was in Nanaimo to teach a training seminar and once again stayed at the Best Western Northgate Hotel. As usual the hotel checked all the boxes. The room was great, the staff was extraordinary and the breakfast was a nice added feature.
Pros: Good location, clean, friendly front desk, quick check-in and check-out, the breakfast is excellent and there is modern equipment in the fitness centre. Cons: Right on the highway, so the road noise can be very loud.
Had a great stay - we had a suite for the three of us. Room was quiet, and very clean and inviting. The lobby was very attractive, the breakfast break room was well setup, lots of choices for breakfast, delicious coffee!
Was in Nanaimo for work for 2 nights. This hotel is staffed by friendly and helpful staff. Easy to access and very close to both Hwy 19 and Hwy 19A. Several restaurants within 10 min drive including 3 within 5 min drive. Breakfast was well stocked, clean and helpful staff. Also had some hot items - eggs, bacon/sausage, waffle & oatmeal stations, etc. as well as pastry, bagels and yogurt.
We were impressed with the BW from the moment we stepped in the door. The staff is friendly, helpful and obliging. They made us feel most welcome. The building is totally renovated so it is sparking clean and comfortable. Our room was well appointed and the bed and linens were great. Even though we could see the highway the room was quiet. The wonderful surprise was the breakfast which was included in our stay. We walked into the spacious, well lit room and were greeted by more pleasant staff. The food was excellent and varied. There were great protein options, fruit, whole grain breads, WAFFLES, bakery treats and beverages including good coffee. When we are in Nanaimo again it will be our first choice.
we had booked into a booking.com place that said they had a "studo=io" but turned out to be a small basement bedroom. sitting on the edge of the bed we decided to look elsewhere. we booked in at the Best western as we've always found them very well kept , great staff and a kind of homey feel. The best western "northgate " in nanaimo (there's 2 different ones) was all we had hpoed for when fleeing the basement bedroom. the staff were so helpful, the rooms immaculate, friendlly completmentary breaky , the breakfast room we found was actually quite cosy and homey, warm and lots of room. a previous write griped about the breakfast crowd which was very uncalled for. people were just very pleasant. the food is more of the standard american diet (eggs, bacon, sausages, cereals, toats, but there was some fruit and granola, yogurt, etc. we were so impressed with the friendly caring staff and they really made out stay delightful, aside from the excellent bed and room.
I've stayed here a few times. Easy access. Very friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. Whisper quiet ac units. Great wifi speeds. Included breakfast with a good assortment. Liked the fresh pastries. Super hustle from the breakfast person. Large fitness area with several machines. Very good stay.
My preference is to stay on the 3rd floor. The rooms on the west side are also my preference, as there is less highway noice.. The hotel is walking distance to a large shopping centre, as well as some restaurants.
Nice hotel with friendly staff. Close to restaurants and lots of shopping. The breakfast was okay but no fresh fruit options. Didn't get a chance to use the exercise room but it looked great at a glance.
This hotel is located just outside Nanaimo and near the main north/south highway which made it very convenient for accessing the waterfront of Nanaimo without the traffic of the inner city. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable.
I've stayed several times over the years at this hotel and I've never had a bad stay. The hotel has had a lot of money invested into it including a complete rebuild of the suites and lobby and the exterior. In my opinion this has been money well spent. The rooms aren't as big as some of the newer hotels, but they do the job well. I had a comfortable stay, excellent customer service and a good breakfast for two days. I'd recommend this hotel for business or personal travel. As a bonus, there are a handful of good restaurants nearby. My only quibble was that I had to fiddle slightly with the thermostat to get it to the right temperature so I put the sleep quality down one point.
We stayed for one night and werr pleasantly surprised. The hotel is newly renovated, the room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was good with some nice choices. The staff was great - upon checkout we even got som travel tips from Sabrina who told us what not to miss on our way down to Victoria. Due to its location near the highway you'll probably get to hear the cars passing by, especially with an open window. When you want to visit downtown Nanaimo, you might want to look for another hotel closer by, but when passing through the BW is a really good choice.
Front desk staff were very friendly & professional. Check in was quick. Room was very clean. We used the exercise room & had it to ourselves. Breakfast had hot & cold options, fresh fruit. You could make your own waffles. Free bottled water was available at the front desk if you asked. Overall a very satisfying stay in lovely Nanaimo. I would stay here again if I needed a hotel in the area.
My wife and I stayed at this property last minute while on vacation. The hotel is well maintained and has a super friendly staff. I've stated at some BW's that I want impressed with but this one's definiteldifferent. Would stay here again!
I always look forward to using this Best Western, book well ahead for good rates. We are seniors and it's location is the best for shopping at Woodgrove Mall, Costco, Homesense, Winners other major stores.
I love their staff! Everything was good! Comfy bed Dark room Nice breakfast Clean room Easy parking ! It's near lots of shopping places etc. 10/10 recommendation I always stay here; I don't like staying anywhere else when I leave home.
First time ever at a Best Western property. It could not have been better...clean, lovely staff and a good location for us. While thought it might be noisy, it was not. Had a great convenience breakfast which hit the spot so we could get an early start on our island road trip. Room was a generous size which was much appreciated.
We booked this BW hotel in Nanaimo after we read great reviews on a variety of online sites. We were not disappointed! After a long day of flights from Arizona, we were welcomed by a great staff who recommended “walking distance” eateries nearby. The room was clean, well appointed, and had comfortable beds. Before we head to Ucuelet and Tofino we will partake in the complimentary breakfast in the morning. A great stop for discerning travelers.
Very friendly staff. Check in and out were easy. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I had no issues with anything working. The hotel is well situated close to shopping and major routes. I would stay again should the need arise.
What a great place to stay. Friendly and helpful staffs. This hotel is pet friendly and have a great area just for them. They provide ground floor rooms if you have a dog which is totally convenient. This hotel is very clean and beautiful. The reception area is so bright and welcoming. The breakfasts is great and the staff there is also very friendly. Definitely recommend this property to anyone and will also stay here again. Can't say enough great things about this place.
We stayed one night while we traveled north. Very pleased immaculate room really comfortable bed and the breakfast was gorgeous. Loads of choice more than adequate and the staff where very pleasant and helpful.
I am happy with my decision to stay at this BW. Tue accommodations were clean and the staff was friendly? This hotel was close to the event we were attending at Long lake which was very convenient. We would definitely stay here in the future.
We cannot say enough good things about this hotel and the staff. My husband and I were visiting the area and prior to checking in, I had fractured my ankle and was not in great spirits. We had reservations for a pet friendly room and it was AMAZING! The room had 2 queen beds which normally we would not need but in this situation worked great. We had plenty of pillows (to prop up my leg) and an extra blanket which I used. The a/c was extremely quiet, rooms was very clean, and as reward members, we received goody bags not only for us but for our dogs as well. I didn't see it, but my husband told me that the outdoor pet area was great. The continental breakfast was nice, hotel lobby has been beautifully redone, and again- the staff were so nice and caring. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Clean, spacious, friendly. Super budget friendly spot between expensive Vancouver & Tofino. We chose to stay one night less in Vancouver to enjoy the ferry ride without rush and then take our time driving to Tofino - this hotel was an easy stop in between and well priced. Great breakfast included too.
This is hands down the best Best Western we have ever stayed in! We had paid for our room ahead of time & when we checked in, Diotima asked if we would like an upgrade, to the king suite. Of course, we said yes, thank you! This suite had three areas to it: bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. The bathroom was very large, well-lit, and had the best towels of any place on our 3 week trip. The kitchen area was huge, with table and chairs with room for more, and everything you would need to cook meals. The bedroom area had a king size bed, a desk, couch, coffee table, and a large closet. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was served on the second floor in a very large room with lots of tables and chairs, large screen tv, and had everything you might want to eat or drink for breakfast. The decor in the lobby, breakfast room, & our room was all nice and happy, looked pretty new. The front desk clerks were friendly & helpful and seemed like they really enjoyed their jobs and meeting people. We highly recommend this place!
Great spot. Looks recently renovated. Warm and inviting when you walk in. Friendly staff who were accommodating at check in. Bed was super comfortable. Room was very clean and the bathroom and shower were great. Breakfast was very good. Friendly housekeeping staff. That said, it seemed a bit high in price range for what you get. Might be the time of year but for a hotel without a hot tub or pool anything north of $200 seems a bit high. Nice place though; we would stay here again.
This hotel was perfect for the last few days of our Vancouver Island vacation. We had a suite, so plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The rooms were spotless, the breakfast was delicious, and the location was convenient to restaurants and stores.
I discovered the quality of Best Westerns about twenty years ago when I made an unexpected trip to southern California with my mother and did not have any hotel or motel reservations. Having sampled a lot of hotel brands, I concluded that the Best Western ownership/franchise model really worked well. Now that I'm based in Victoria, I thought I should look for a brand that serviced Vancouver Island as well as the rest of Canada well. I came back to Best Western again and realised the chain has only gotten better with time. Well located, clean, price competitive and with a friendly staff, I felt welcome throughout our stay. This was the first of many stays at Northgate for me,
We spent the night here on our way up the east side of Vancouver Island. The hotel is easy to get to off the highway and there is plenty of shopping nearby. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast rom staff were especially outgoing and helpful, making sure everything was well stocked and cleaned up. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The room included a small refrigerator and microwave. And there was plenty of space for our family of four.
The room was modern, clean and very comfortable. It supplied all of my needs. Check in and check out were both welcoming and speedy. The site was quiet. The breakfast was well stocked with lots of choices.
They advertise sauna steam room and whirlpool but have none of these. The staff was great it is across the street from superstore and close to the mall. Bus stop right our front. Security at night was friendly
We loved it here! Our room was super clean and the beds were comfortable. We all had a good night's sleep. There's an aquatic center not too far away that has a 50m pool, large hot tub, lazy river and kiddy pool.
Very nice rooms and very knowledgeable staff. The breakfast was the right time and nice and hot. A very good selection of items. Parking was not a problem, location is good to shopping and close to family. Our room was facing the road and no problem sleeping, very quite.
I booked this location in part because of the positive reviews it had. The staff were definitely friendly and welcoming and the entry was modern. The breakfast offered a large selection of foods and lots of seating and again staff who went above and beyond. The room, however, was beyond disappointing. We had a two queen suite on the main floor. The bedroom portion was dark with no window or natural light and there were two flies in the room when we entered it. The fridge didn't seem to be working properly and the bathroom fan had no off switch. The worst though was when the people staying above us ran their water, went to the bathroom or had a shower. The noise was unbelievable and woke our family up numerous times. I called the front desk around 10:30 pm and was told the hotel was full so there was nothing they could do. When checking out they said they had never had the complaint before and would look into it. Hopefully, they have figured out the issue and fixed it!
What a nice place to stay! Hotel is modern and super clean. Staff is beyond friendly and helpful. Breakfast included is very nice with scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh waffles and more items for every taste. Would stay here again!
Noise from lobby area was horrible. Had to go to lobby to request ear plugs and quiet. Silver fish in bathroom were disgusting! Requested wake up call for 7:30am, but call came at 4:30am! No apologies. Breakfast was good.
Was impressed with ckeanliness of building, room. towels nice and thick, coffee and fridge in rooms, bed was a little hard but sheets and pillows made up for that. Continental free breakfast 630-930am was unreal almost like a buffet fresh juices, coffees , fresh scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, cereals u can even make waffles if your so inclined. It is self serve but staff Is there to help. Within 2 blocks from restaurants and grocery stores.. 10 min drive from ferry.
Monday, April 29, 2019 to Wednesday, May 1, 2019 We were very impressed with this hotel. It seems quite new or recently extensively renovated and has a fabulous vibe. Staff are very pleasant and wanting to help ensure we had the best stay possible. We stayed for 2 nights in a King Room located on the main floor. Our room faced a private, nicely landscaped and well-maintained courtyard which was also pet friendly. The room was exceptionally well designed and furnished including a full kitchen that was very well equipped including an induction, in-counter, 2 burner stove top and all the pots and pans, dishes, etc. one would need. There was a two-person dinette table that doubled as a desk. Lighting was great. The bed was very comfortable. However, it is developing a hump in the middle indicating that it soon needs to be replaced. All aspects of the bathroom were very well positioned and functional. The towels were very good. The included hot breakfast was served in a great breakfast room located on the 2nd floor, perhaps the best breakfast room per se we have ever encountered at a Best Western. We had a great stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Nanaimo Area. With only a very few exceptions, we liked this hotel more than any other of the many at which we have stayed over the years.
I had booked the Best Western for 1 night while in Nanaimo on Business. I have driven by this hotel too many times to count and it looked liked an ok hotel. Well I was surprised and amazed at the interior. It looks like renovations where done not to long ago as the lobby looked fantastic. New and modern. The check in was very quick and Shawna ( I think) did an awesome job to get me checked in quickly and efficiently. She also offered suggestions to restaurants in the area. The elevator and hallways have been redone and look new. The room was very well done and clean. Well appointed furniture. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The room was quiet for the night as well. The breakfast in the morning was very good and the service was great there as well. Even with the check out, the service was excellent. This was a very pleasant surprise for me and I would highly recommend this location!
Party of 7 stayed in two rooms over the Easter long weekend and found this hotel location convenient, and had a good stay in the renovated comfort. The most impressive was the fabulous staff. We interacted primarily with the front seat and the staff was phenomenal. Thank you for that great experience.
3-night stay in Nanaimo at the BWNI in an area so close to good restaurants, shopping and all the amenities one would need. The hotel was so welcoming and friendly, clean and reasonably quiet at night (from street noise). The breakfast was very good - great selection, quality, hot food, and clean environment. Definitely would stay here on another visit to Nanaimo
nice area to shop and to eat in. Walking Distance Nice place to stay very clean and bright, even though we stayed in a pet friendly room (we did not have a pet) there was no evidence of one ever being in the room.
The Best Western has been nicely updated. Grounds and hotel are kept really clean. Centrally located makes it close to everything, from movies to a mall and groceries if needed. Rooms are clean. Come with a safe. Continental breakfast was really good as well. Only thing missing is a pool:( Would return.
Ask the receptionist about the places you can visit around. They have more information than whats on the travel guide. You might need to stay at least 2 days to visit most of the places. The breakfast was plentiful.
You get a warm, welcoming feeling when you stay. My mom and I stayed for two nights. I had to come into Nanaimo for some medical tests to be done in the hospital. This was not our first visit. We stayed a few years ago while we attended a convention. They have done some nice renovations. The colours are warm and welcoming. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. The evening supervisor helped my mom set up her IPad so that she could use the wifi. They even provided a free room upgrade. The new room was a suite. It was nice as it gave mom and I more room and privacy. The continental breakfast was good. Although I could not use the first day as I had to fast. The breakfast starts early at 6AM. So mom was able to get a bite before we went to the hospital. Our suite was ground level, this gave us a sliding door with a walk out patio. Not that we got a chance to use it. One draw back. As the location is close to highway 19A. About 5AM you can hear the traffic. But then I live in a quiet rural area, so I noticed the noise. My mom did not. Yes I would recommend.
I've stayed here a few times. Located in the north end of Nanaimo. Lots of parking and easy access off the highway. A few walkable restaurants close by. Clean updated hotel. Super comfortable beds and whisper quiet ac units. Very comfortable. There is an included breakfast which is basic but gets you going. This could be improved upon. Large breakfast area. Excellent personable staff.
We always stay at Best Western for the people, cleanliness and overall value for your money. Any time we stay we usually use all their facilities, including the workout section. This time we used the laundry and it was great. Clean and easy to use.
Best Western Northgate in Nanaimo has always been my favourite place to stay. The staff at front desk and cleaning staff are always so welcoming. Their concern is your comfort while staying with them. My only beef is the big thick pillows only because I prefer the thin soft pillows. I never thought to ask for different pillows. You will not be discouraged at Northgate.
The staff were so friendly, fun and helpful and went above and beyond to make the three of us happy. The location was close to everything and very quiet considering where it is situated. The breakfast was AWESOME! Thanks Leanne for making it filled with "love" I want to come back and stay every time I visit this beautiful area.
This hotel, while a little way out of Nanaimo itself, is still well located and quite near a large shopping centre. Rooms are very spacious and clean. The gym facilities were good. Breakfast was on the better end of Best Western offerings, served in a large room which had plenty of space for everyone. However, what made this hotel stand out for me, at the end of an 8 week tour that covered a lot of hotels, was the helpfulness, friendliness and sincere welcome displayed by all staff. This will be our preferred hotel in any return trip to Nanaimo.
By far one of the top Best Western Hotels I have stayed at. If I have to travel to Nanaimo for business I always stay at this hotel. Lots of parking, close to many stores and restaurants, and the breakfast is great.
Newly decorated/updated. Only down side is no lounge or swimming pool. Nice clean rooms, good Wifi. This hotel was close to work, shopping is a 5 minute walk away. Fitness centre across the road if you need.
My wife and I enjoy going for sight seeing trips. We go to get out of our house and see the beauty that is around us and make side trips to see our family. We choose the Best Western when possible because they provide the comfort and care we need.
My son and I were caught in a snow storm when our car broke down on the highway in Nanaimo. We found the BW was the closest hotel so we made our way there. The staff were amazing and gave us an emergency kit with a toothbrush, comb, mouthwash etc. They tended to our every need and the next morning we had the most wonderful free breakfast with waffles and fresh fruit. A haven in the storm and I will not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.
The Hotel is new, Close to amenities and restaurants. Unfortunately during our stay the elevator was out of service, with the breakfast room being on the second floor, this did not allow for disabled guests to enjoy breakfast.
I was so excited when we walked into our room, it was newly renovated and tastefully decorated. There was an armchair and footstool also a moveable small table to put my drink on. My compliments to whoever designed the rooms, my biggest beef with hotels is that they often don't have a chair to relax in that is comfortable and rarely do they have footstools. The front desk staff is awesome, the rooms are very clean and the breakfast very good!
Three of us, my wife, myself and our 15 year old son were in Nanaimo for the Vancouver Island Basketball Championships Feb 14/15/2019. Other than the elevator being out for service, our stay was flawless. Clean room, easy access to free parking, and the breakfast had eggs bacon waffles yogurt (tasty gluten free bagels) regular bagels juices and decaf coffee. One of the best breakfasts at a travelers hotel Ive had. Ive been to many with just coffee and assorted cereals so this was a pleasant surprise. Im on a low gluten diet and my wife is on a low sugar diet and the breakfast staff were fantastic at looking after our needs. I have to point out CARMEN specifically she was clearly swamped with a full house but she attended to our "special" needs beautifully, always with a cheery smile. I rarely mention specific people in my reviews unless they are outstanding, but Carmen was just a gem on both mornings we were there for breakfast.
Friendly staff including front desk, breakfast room and cleaning staff. One of the cleanest hotels we have ever stayed in. Complimentary breakfast was excellent with many choices and staff kept it very clean.
Great location for shopping and Resturants. Some are within walking distance. The rooms are very clean and well appointed. The beds are comphy and the towles are soft. There is free internet. The Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included with your room.
I spent 1 day diving and stayed in this great hotel for 2 nights.Service and amenities were perfect, I was able to do my landry in a clean area.Next time in Nanaimo, I will definitely stay in this hotel
This recently renovated Inn was a most pleasant experience from checking in to check out. Front desk staff were very pleasant & friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely interested in us as their guests. Our room was exceptionally clean and fitted with all amenities. The breakfast room & food was equal to a fine dining restaurant!! Ample seating in a spacious dining room, great selection of warm and cold foods, protein, fruits, breads, etc. (The sausages were delicious!) Clean and well tended by a friendly hostess. Overall experience was excellent. Would highly recommend this BW Northgate Inn.
The Nanaimo Best Western is the very best in terms of upgarde,in the western Canadian and US states and province. Friendly staff, excellent breakfast. We loved this place! and for the other Best Western Locations they are our very first choice. A great Chain!
This hotel has completed their upgrade and it's like a brand new hotel. From the outside in, they did a wonderful job on the work. The breakfast room and food were great and the lobby and room were fantastic!
It was very clean and comfortable. It was in a good location, easy to travel in any direction. The staff was helpful finding a good restaurant. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area.
We stayed here during a power outage and damage to our home due to the windstorm - plus just a few days before Christmas. The staff could not have been more caring, helpful or understanding although they were extremely busy and also dealing with their own issues due to the storm. Also, the rooms were renovated, clean, modern, breakfast was great value. Location is very walkable to mall and restaurants. Can't thank everyone enough for the great treatment at such a trying time.
I stayed one night and of course we did mounds of Christmas shopping. The staff was excellent on the phone and in person! No yucky smells and most comfy beds and linens. The bathroom has been recently renovated and the sinks looked lovely and modern. A Great sleep before a busy day of meeting people. I slept in and missed the breakfast but I can tell you from my last time here that it is very tasty. Thanks for a great stay. We will be back.
There are a lot of positives I have to say about this hotel. We had such a good sleep. All employees we encountered were so courteous, helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back to stay here again.
I'm a Diamond Rewards member who has been to Nanaimo many times, but this is my first visit to this particular property, having usually stayed at the BW Dorchester. What a very pleasant surprise. The front desk staff were welcoming and professional and my room was perfect. There is an Italian restaurant across the parking lot that had good food for a good price, so this will be my first choice of hotels in the future.
exceeded expectations with new, clean and quiet room with very comfortable king mattress. The check in and check out staff were friendly cheerful and professional. So nice to check in late and be greeted with a bright lobby and the front desk manned with 2 staff who both looked like it was the middle of the day. Very welcoming.
Great hotel, clean, nice decor and great staff. Easy check in and check out. Only problem us the parking, very limited options. Room was well appointed . Close to shopping. Would recommend for business or pleasure.
The staff made our stay memorable. We found our room and beds very comfortable. The hotel was clean, and located near all the shopping locations we wanted to visit. Their continental breakfast was great.
Great hotel to stay at while in Nanaimo! Excellent staff and great location. Good breakfast (that is included) in a very beautiful room on the second floor. Nice to have a balcony and fresh air. I will return next time I am in Nanaimo!
Best Western has done an excellent job with the upgrades with their properties. The rooms in Nanaimo were some of the best I have ever stayed in. Front Desk Staff were extremely funny and helpful. The top notch service is genuine and second to none in the hotel class that the location is categorized under
Super friendly staff both at check-in and at check-out. Very comfortable beds and completely renovated rooms. Very good wifi internet speeds. Easy access off the highway and lots of parking. The included breakfast is basic but gets you going. Lots of nearby restaurants and shopping.
Once again a very pleasant experience. The staff are very welcoming and the rooms and facilities are excellent. This was a trip for pleasure, but I have spent many nights for business. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or leisure.
I book on this hotel because is very near to my work place, near to a mall, opposite of a big supermarket and specially a free breakfast. The hotel room was clean with a new carpet, reception nice and friendly.
We stay here every time we come to Nanaimo - it more than meets our expectations. The breakfast is very good and the staff is very accommodating. It is convenient to our family visit locations - convenient
We were extremely happy with the cleanliness and brightness of our room. Much care had been taken to ensure the presentation was above average. The staff was very helpful and cheerful. It truly enhanced our stay in Nanaimo
This was the single most welcoming place during my two weeks! Staff were soooooooo wonderful and kind. They provided a clean well situated room that was pet friendly. located close to everything - great spot to center locate and do day trips. BUT the it was the staff that was soooooo wonderful. even gave us a puppy package. They had a lovely court yard for the pets. balcony's The breakfast was perfect. Lots of parking and for big riggs.
We had a comfortable, clean room and found the staff to be friendly and helpful.. This hotel has made fine renovations and upgrades. The hotel is within walking distance to a fine restaurant and a shopping center.
Beautiful decor. The room was spotlessly cleaned every day. I was so impressed by the dedication of all the staff. The complimentary full breakfast is served in a beautiful room with an impressive selection. They certainly go to a lot of effort to make sure the guests are comfortable. Complimentary coffee in the lobby all day. The hotel went through such an extensive renovation that it feels like it was just built. This is the best hotel in Nanimo.
We stayed for one night before taking a ferry to Vancouver. Was very impressed with the hotel and staff. The room and facilities were clean and comfortable. The breakfast area on the 2nd floor was spacious and the selection of food was good. The fitness center had new equipment and worked well. The only very minor issue was the that the two treadmills faced a blank wall and would be better to have them face a TV or window. The location was convenient to the highway, stores, and restaurants. Exiting the hotel parking lot was a little confusing at first since there are two Metral Drives that intersect in front of the hotel.
This is not the fanciest of hotels but it may possibly be one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. Front desk service was great providing us with one of the end rooms. Since we were two adults with two kids, the extra space was greatly appreciated (Room # 229 I believe). Everything we needed was there for a quick sleep before we headed off again. The breakfast was ample and delicious with waffles, eggs, sausages, bagels, fruit and lots of other options. My only remotely negative thing to report is the beds were noisy. Every time I rolled over, the bed squeaked and when you are sleeping with two young children, this is a concern. Nevertheless, I put cleanliness over inconvenience any day. Thanks Best Western Northgate! We'll be back!
Awesome. Booked late at night after completing West Coast Trail. Must have looked as crappy as we felt, because we got an upgrade to a king suite with a jacuzzi. Oh my word. And the bed had about 2000 pillows on it. Ahhhh... Front desk staff were super friendly and helpful, and had hot drinks ready at check-in. Hotel is really beautiful, and the room was amazing. Hot breakfast in the morning was a nice surprise too. Great end to our trip. :-)
Short notice call in to book a room, excellent service from the front desk and booked me right away. Great check in experience along with room. They were happy to recommend food for me late at night and breakfast was very good in the morning.
The staff was absolutely great right from the beginning. A wealth of information with so many great tips. The room was outstanding. We were on the main floor, did not hear much at all. Was very clean, and the patio window opened out onto their garden area. The breakfast room on the second floor was huge!! and the staff attentive. Good selection and clean. We were so comfortable here we kept returning in the evening to book another day... ended up staying 4 days and were sad to leave. Would highly recommend.
I was in Nanaimo on business this week and stayed at the Best Western Northgate. The recent renovations give a fresh appearance. Great staff, nice clean rooms, good breakfast and a great location make this a good choice.
Recently updated hotels, clean room, good wifi, air conditioning, with balcony facing main road, but good soundproof. 2 queen room a bit small, staff in breakfast room did a great job, smiling face, nice coffee, DIY waffle, sufficient supply.
This is a very nice, clean hotel in Nanaimo, a city on Vancouver Island with a ferry terminal. It is extremely quiet, and rooms and beds are comfortable. They have good cable tv and good wifi. Rooms come equipped with safes, a fridge and microwave oven, and a coffee maker. Breakfast is excellent, including sausage, eggs, and waffles in a room with a view. The hotel is reasonably close to highways.
The hotel is very convenient located ( just a few kilometers North of the harbor). We had a spacious room with a kitchen. The room was very clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The guest laundry was clean and the detergent/ dryer sheets were for free.
My friend and I stayed here in order to be close to the mall. It was a short walk away! Clean rooms. The free continental breakfast offered good choice including a make your own waffles area! We would return!
Had adjoining rooms and had plenty room for 2 adults and 3 kids. Kids loved the jacuzzi pool and was what we needed prior to getting the ferry off VI. Got a pizza from across he way and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was good. Felt we got a good deal and not fleeced by having 2 rooms. No restaurant sadly but plenty around to get food
The good: Clean and renovated rooms, attractive lobby and good location. Our stay included continental breakfast and we were very surprised with the quality and selection! The not so good: small rooms with no closets. Felt cramped. The bad: someone tried to break into our room. They claimed at the desk they were staying in our room and they actually came to let them in without checking them out! Our teen girls were changing! They said once the man realized he was caught he took off. Very scary as we could have been robbed blind or worse. So, great little hotel with nice breakfast, but they need to tighten their security!
This is a tough review for me. There were highs and lows to the extreme. The housekeeping might be my favourite ever. So clean. We stayed here this week while I was visiting a beloved family member in palliative care, so crashing into a clean and comfy bed at the end of a hard day was amazing. But I'll get right to the review. The good. The hotel was easy to find. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The hotel has seen a massive renovation, which is always appreciated as a guest. I stayed here in 88-89 with my family as a child and I wouldn't have recognized the hotel from the inside. It is clean and modern. Housekeeping deserves a five star review. Our room was immaculate. Like eat off any surface clean. Next level clean. Well done!! I am particular when it comes to cleaning and this was superb. When I booked I got a room with two queens, but that wasn't what I wanted. I wanted a king, but couldn't get one. They were sold out. So I added a little remark to my reservation, asking if they had a king come up, I would love it. Upon check in, they gave me the king suite and honoured the original price I'd paid online when I booked in a frenzy. So thank you so much for that. The bad. I don't have bad. It was either really good or really odd. The ugly. The smell when we entered that room was knock your socks off not awesome. It was sour air conditioner smell. They need to be serviced or something. It was gross. We smelled it all night long. Not sure what was up with that. The room was dark and the decorating reminded me of the hotels in northern BC where the rig workers rent. Everything was brown. Not a homey feel at all. And no windows except one overlooking the highway from next to the bed. It was dark and closed in. Which normally I would overlook considering the hotel is a side of the highway retreat for weary travellers. But this particular hotel costs a small fortune for what you're actually getting. Since it's the same price I pay to stay at the 5-star hotels I stay at in Vancouver, I expected more from this hotel. If you're going to charge 410 for a room with two queen beds, including taxes, then you need to up the game. I stay at the Wedgewood in Vancouver for the exact price I paid to stay in this hotel room. Same type of room. But at the Wedgewood, I get turndown service in a stunning room with incredible views and a doorman with a top hat. I get a plate of warm cookies in my beautifully decorated room. I get top quality bathroom products and the bed is the best in the business. The pillows are the best I've had in a hotel. There is valet parking. I can have high tea in the afternoon in the charming dining room and the hotel is a convenient location to shopping and entertainment. Sometimes I still think about their margarita pizza served in the bar. However, at this hotel there is a moderately comfy bed, nothing amazing. All right pillows, again nothing amazing. A VERY clean room with no views and a smelly AC unit. A continental breakfast that doesn't wow or amaze anyone. The comparison is just not even in the same ballpark. Downtown Vancouver is fabulous. The side of the highway in Nanaimo is not. This was a HIGH costing hotel room for the side of the highway in Nanaimo overlooking the parking lot and listening to the traffic in a depressingly decorated room with no light. No warm cookies. No top hat. No turndown service. No valet parking. In fact, the parking lot is kind of scary at night. Will I stay here again? No. Do I recommend it? No. I mean, if you're dying for a room after a long trip to get to the island, sure. But be prepared to pay a high price for not much more than a Holiday Inn Express, which I just rented in London, England for a third the price of this place. All in all, you can do better in Nanaimo. Or you can do the same for much cheaper. Unless cleanliness is a must for you and you are willing to pay a huge amount for a room to have that housekeeping. I don't know if you will find housekeeping like this in any of the other hotels. It was truly outstanding.
When I first saw the hotel online I was worried that its location near highways would make for a noisy stay. However, the rooms are very quiet with the windows closed and I even enjoyed sitting on the balcony. The staff were very friendly and the room was immaculate and looked recently updated. I was worried that a lack of pool would be a problem for my children, but there are plenty of beaches nearby that we took advantage of. There is a mall and a Costco nearby, and lots of choices for food within walking distance if you don't want to venture far. The only real drawback was breakfast. I have stayed at Best Westerns where the hot items changed daily, but here it was sausages, scrambled eggs, and waffles every day. It's fine for a couple of days, but after 7 days in a row it got a bit tiring. The staff were great at keeping the food items topped up, and even at busy times there wasn't a wait for a table. Overall we enjoyed our experience here.
Clean, nice rooms, loved being able to open the patio door for fresh air. Breakfast was good. Disapointed at lack of a pool but apparently there is an excellent public facility nearby. Good restaurants nearby as well.
A last minute very late night overnight requirement turned into a great experience. No hotels I would stay in were available... got the last room here. An unexpected surprise! Very clean, very friendly (no over the top) staff. Excellent two night experience! Big thank you to the staff for saving me sleeping in my car....
We had an unexpected stay over due to car troubles. We needed a place that would take pets. We were hoping for a muffin in the morning, SO much better than that! Fabulous service, great breakfast provided!
We stayed here with the family and had a very relaxed and enjoyable stay before hitting the road for Tofino. From check in to check out, the entire stay was very enjoyable, the rooms were just perfect, and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast had a great spread the staff were very quick to keep everything topped up and clean. The certificate of excellence here is well deserved.
We enjoyed our stay and would rate this hotel as very good. It is nice, current and clean. Front desk staff were efficient and friendly... Breakfast was as expected - the staff replenished the hot food and beverages as needed and the dining areas is clean. The staff care and it is evident.. they work hard to keep the customer happy.
Stayed here Sunday night of the August long weekend. Everything was great from the front desk staff to the rooms to the breakfast. The rooms were small but we don't need extra room. The rooms were exceptionally clean and fresh including the beds n the bathroom. The warm breakfast was really good too. Will definitely come back here again.
This hotel was completely renovated last year. They did a beautiful job, as this is probably the nicest Best Western Plus we have stayed in during our travels this year. The front desk staff were very friendly and kind. It is a handy location once we figured out how to access the hotel. Our room was very spacious with a balcony. My husband sat outside and relaxed after our long journey on the highway. The bathroom was very nice and the shower was heavenly. Please use the mat provided for the tub as it is awfully slippery. Breakfast the next morning was upstairs. Eggs and bacon, toast, english muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee and tea. Orange juice too. It was a nice hot breakfast. Would definitely stay at this hotel again when back in the area and in need of an overnight stay.
Room was nice and very friendly front desk staff. Had a enjoyable stay expect when we went for breakfast. Lady who attends the breakfast didn't like the fact that people put toppings on their waffles in grill.
Rooms are updated and perfectly clean. Nice and comfy bed. All in all the experience is satisfying. This is my 4th time to stay and still the same comfort I got beforw. Highly recommended to my friends.
From the warm welcome to the final cuddles for our puppy when we left, it was a great place to stay on our trip to Vancouver Island. The front desk staff gave us stellar advice for hiking and dinner locations. Special thanks to Diomita and Nicole for their care and attention to detail.
The staff at this hotel were amazing. We had booked at a different hotel chain where our reservation was cancelled last minute. The staff at the Best Western Northgate were able to extend our stay with this hotel so that our vacation was not ruined. They upgraded our room to a suite and ensured we had an amazing visit to Nanaimo. The only reason we booked with a different hotel chain was proximity to our child's BC summer games events, but we will never stray from the Best Western chain again!!
We felt very welcomed and comfortable at this hotel. Reception staff took time to advice us about BC ferry crossing, offered water and were very friendly in general. The location is good if you have a car, only 10-12 min drive from downtown. Good and not expensive restaurants around. Very good value for money.
We love the hotel, staff from housekeeping to front desk to night audit are great courtesy well knowledge and Shauna great agent. Very polite my hats off to all the staff at this hotel. There breakfast is great, please check it out Makes us feel like home Tofino. B.C
Rooms are accessed from an interior corridor. Our room was very serviceable with microwave and refrigerator, although with two beds it was a little awkward getting to the closet if someone was using the chair. Staff were friendly and professional. The fitness center was excellent with two treadmills. The breakfast room was very spacious and attractive and was located on the second floor which is a bit unusual. Breakfast was excellent. Overall, a nice, modern hotel with the necessary conveniences.
We have stayed here at least 3 times. We liked this hotel as it was easy to access from the surrounding highways. It was clean and tidy, plenty of free parking, and NOT downtown. It's a great place to stay. Walking distance to some restaurants and a grocery and liquor store. Not a far drive to downtown, or the ferry terminal.
Big spacious room with balcony over looking car park. Staff very helpful in where to eat and visit . Sadly no swimming pool, but an exercise room. Breakfast was manic every man for himself. Someone need to teach the far eastern visitors manners !!,
Stayed here for one night with family on a road trip stop over. Very clean and modern. Friendly helpful staff. Clean comfortable bedrooms. Easy access to nearby shops. Restaurants in 5 minutes walking distance. Highly recommended hotel.
Amazing stay overall and will recommend to friends nd family and will be back 100%. We had the jaccuzi tub suite and it was incredible next we will get the Jacuzzi tub room with walk in shower. Clean, respectful and comforting all in all.
Nice clean hotel room Very friendly staff Would like to see more green incentives, especially in a place like beautiful Nanaimo Some things that could be improved: Ceramic mugs and glasses in the room in addition to throw away mugs Large refillable shampoo, conditioner and body wash instead of small plastic throw away
Good employees are what really make a hotel function well, and BWNI has independent, customer-minded staff who are clearly invested in making sure their lodgers are satisfied. We've never stayed at a hotel and had so many extremely positive interactions with such a wide variety of employees before - whether it was helping us change our booking, sharing information about the local area, or helping with our hotel safe.
The hotel is very good overall; the breakfast attendant was outstanding. Access is a bit tricky but the hotel is well worth the very small inconvenience. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The location for us could not be better.
Best Western Northgate is always a pleasure to stay at. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. Staff takes the time to do their best to address you by your name if they remember. The location is near a mall, close to shopping and two theatres near by.
While I had no concerns regarding the cleanliness, quality of the room, I did have an issue with the location of the room assigned upon arrival. I was assigned a quiet room at the time of booking, which was done directly with the hotel. However, upon arrival, my partner and I were given a room on the noisy side of the hotel, despite my telling the desk clerk of what had been assigned when I booked. He said he could not help. In the morning, I discussed the situation with a different staff member and was told that, even though the booking noted a room number on the 3rd floor, because no-one had put an additional
Loved this hotel, close to shopping and restaurants all within walking distance. A quiet clean room with great staff and breakfast. Will definitely be back with the great prices especially for business.
This BW is exceptional! Recently renovated, the rooms are exceptional and the beds are super comfy! The staff is caring , resourceful and responsive. Florence (Flo) is the breakfast coordinator- superior customer service!!
The lobby is gorgeous, the rooms are comfortable with balconies and the air conditioning was great. The breakfast is wonderful with lots of options, good parking. Overall excellent hotel and would definitely stay there again.
We arrived late on a Friday night with no reservations. David and Jolene were the front counter staff that greeted us. Both were very friendly and welcoming. David was very knowledgeable and checked us into an Executive King room for two nights. The room was very clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable and the balcony was a nice addition to sit and have coffee. Florence in the dining room was very attentive, and ensured coffee, eggs, etc were all well-stocked. Great guest service at this location. Check-out was a breeze. We were very pleased with the service, cleanliness and overall experience at this hotel. We would definitely return and recommend to friends!
The hotel looks to be recently renovated and the room was large, clean and comfortable as was the bed. The included breakfast had a pretty good selection of foods (waffles, eggs, sausage, oatmeal, breads & bagels, fruit, coffee and tea, etc). The only downside is that it's just off the highway and beside another fairly busy road so it can be a bit noisy, not terrible by any means (we were on the third floor) but maybe something to keep in mind/ask about when booking your room.
My stay at the Best Western was extremely good. The service was great the the hotel was very modern and clean. The room was nice and the bathroom was clean. I thought that the shower was confusing to turn on but we figured it out. The location was good as we were close to many shops. I thought that the pillows were very thick and puffy so having thinner pillows would have been better for me. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend to friends and family.
What makes a good stay into a great stay is often the staff. We had a great stay. Get up a few minutes early and go for At last coffee in the breakfast room. The woman in charge is an absolute joy..... breakfast was great as well
Stayed 1 night but had great stay at this renovated hotel. Quiet King suite with very comfy bed. Breakfast was very good and the organic coffee was so good we didn't need our Starbucks fix! Special mention to the hard working and very friendly breakfast team! (I. e. Florence) Near restaurants and grocery stores. Highly recommend when staying in Nanaimo.
We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a volleyball team and were very happy with the BW Norgate. A well managed hotel with updated rooms, comfortable beds, decent breakfast offerings and the friendliest staff. Rooms are modern and well appointed with amenities including a larger than average empty fridge and microwave as well. Despite being assigned a room right next to the lobby, we didn't hear a thing overnight. Coffee and hot water are supplied in the lobby. Location is close to main routes and walking distance to grocery shopping and a cold beer/wine store. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, most notably the front desk reception and the breakfast hosts. We showed up 10 minutes before the breakfast was to open and found the door unlocked and everything ready to go, hot and fresh. As it started getting busy the hosts were attentive and hard working with restocking and plate clearing, and cheerfully filled a thermos of hot water for me amidst the busy-ness. I was dreading a weekend of gymnasiums and hassle factor to arrange meals for the team but this well run and well located hotel helped make the overall experience a success.
Super clean with great service. Excellent for bringing your dog with dog friendly rooms and a nice fenced in green space. Good breakfast. Good location with being close to restaurants and the highway.
This hotel offers a great location to shopping and lots of restaurants. The staff was always welcoming. It had a great selection for there free breakfast. Waffles, pastries, toast etc. Rooms where nice and spacious. The recent remodel makes this hotel a great value. The ladies in the breakfast room where very friendly and cheerful.
Location is good, - close to main roads and shopping but our room was very quiet; our suite worked very well for 3 adults; staff were all very pleasant, even ones met in the hall; the breakfast included in room price - was very good.
Spent two nights here. Hotel has been remodeled/addition in last 18 months or so. Room was very quiet, bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was great. That have a very complete breakfast. The elevator did not work. Temporarily out of service. They will help you if needed. Great grocery store across the street with restaurants near by.
Nicely remodeled hotel. All of the staff were great. The lady in the breakfast room so friendly. She kept everything stocked up. The location is fine. Just a bit north of town. I would stay here again.
Very friendly and fast check in. Beds were clean and comfortable. Have stayed here before and will definitely be staying here again. Also convenient access to shopping and stores at the north side of Nanaimo
stayed here for 2 nights, the staff was very friendly and offered good advise on local restaurants. we asked for a quiet room and it was very quiet. The room was clean and i liked that it had a comfortable chair with separate lamp so I could read in the middle of the night and not have to light up the room and disturb anyone. The continental breakfast had a good assortment and the morning staff was very friendly. There was a lot of restaurants close by and superstore across the street this was nice so we could park our vehicle and walk. It is very close from the ferry as well. Short drive.
The BW Northgate is my "go to" hotel for business in Nanaimo. They were closed for several months during their reno and I tried other hotels during this time, but was really happy to get back to this property.
I hadn't stayed here in some time. Completely updated from the lobby to the rooms. Clean, bright and modern. The rooms are great. Comforters on the beds. Modern rooms. Well laid out. Very comfortable. Love the whisper quiet a.c. units. Super friendly staff, especially in the included breakfast area. Basic breakfast but enough to get you going. Lots of nearby shopping and restaurants. Great place to stay.
Rooms were not cleaned properly. Dirty underwater and socks left over from the last guest found on the floor. The staff immediately put us in a different much more upscale room but it to had not been cleaned properly. My wife found stains on the sheets, a horrific stain on the headboard ??, large food crumbs on the floor and a half eaten pizza in the mini fridge!
Stayed snowy night and were exceedingly happy with the hotel. Very close to shopping at Woodgrove Mall and several restaurants within walking distance. Simple drive to multiple areas in Nanaimo. Staff excellent, service great, parking lot a little confusing but lots of free parking once you figure it out, rooms very comfortable , clean and quiet. (We were on the third floor away from parking lot). Breakfast was a nice surprise-not just cereals and toast but eggs, sausages, waffles as well.
Stayed here for three nights while working in the area. Staff were excellent, breakfast was not greatest but there are plenty of options near the hotel. I found the room was clean and noise level was average. The front lobby had been renovated and I believe other areas were as well but I didn't wander around so can't really confirm. What I will say is that the front desk staff are excellent. I needed to change my last nights stay to a hotel in Victoria and the front desk went above and beyond helping find me a place.
Staff are extremely helpful and pleasant; check in/ check out is fast and courteous. Breakfast is well thought out and presented- excellent value and helpful AM staff. Room are clean and quiet- the sound proofing and drapes work well, though in heating mode, some of the upper floor rooms take a bit of noise from the roof top HRV. Overall the new climate control works very well, in heating and cooling modes. Internet is fast and reliable; bathrooms are clean and water pressure/ temperature is good. Rooms are clean and tidy- the new finishes and fixtures are durable and comfortable. Beds and pillows make for a great sleep. Excellent location- central to all the important 'stuff', for me..
Great value and friendly staff. The breakfast was awesome when we expected a continental breakfast and got a nice dining room with eggs, sausages and waffles. Super friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. We asked for wine glasses and they had them waiting for us when we got to the lobby. All modern and new furnishings. Close to restaurants and shopping. We'll now stay there whenever we go to visit family and have already recommended to several friends.
The hotel renovations are awesome. Very good look to the exterior, lobby and rooms. Staff are friendly and the rooms are very clean and tidy. Lots to choose from on the breakfast buffet. The hotel is really close to lots of shopping and restaurants. Great location.
We had to come off the highway due to bad weather and we are so lucky to have found the Best Western Northgate. The staff are amazing, the rooms are wonderful and the beds are as comfortable as home. Coming back for sure!!
We chose this hotel as we were attending a social function in the vicinity and did not want to drive home that Night. The location was Ideal and easy to get to. The hotel far exceeded our expectations in all aspects. The front desk staff were extremely corial and welcoming. The lady in the breakfast room was one of the friendliest we've met in a room like this. The room was clean and it is obvious that the hotel has either been recently updated or is kept in excellent condition. Will definitely return.
The updated rooms are clean, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. The staff at this Best Western has always been the reason we come back. With the added upgrade it is perfect. We took in a movie in the evening which is in the mall and a short walk from the hotel.
Very up to date decor in the Hotel, very friendly front desk staff. Great Breakfast available in a very spacious room. Many shops and restaurants close by. Easy access off highway and yet quiet location
Great stay. Nicely newly renovated. Close to many stores. Enjoyed a good breakfast in a spacious room. Would be very nice to have a pub or restaurant on site. Close to Island Highway so easy access. Enjoyed my visit. Have stayed there before and will stay there again
Everything you need in a property , only thing missing was a restaurant how ever good quality restaurants were close by. If your coming to shop malls and Costco very close. Banks also close by . It was good !
We wish to commend the following staff at Best Western, Northgate in Nanaimo, BC: Rupi and Leanne, who serve breakfast in the Breakfast Room from a very early hour every morning with cheerful smiles and great service, over and above what is expected. Also, Alana who works on the front desk and was extremely helpful.
GPS was definitely a help in finding this gem. We stayed 2 nights and used points. Two days before arrival we were contacted by phone asking if we would like a complimentary upgrade. I prefer separate beds so the upgrade to a room having a king sized bed was respectfully declined. Recently renovated, this is a very attractive hotel, inside and out. Slept like a baby, something I rarely experience in new surroundings. Girls at front desk were most helpful in giving us directions and recommendations, particularly Sabrina. Great value, spotlessly clean and hard-to-beat service. Checking in and out was simple, having pre-registered online. Close to stores and a nice Thai restaurant. Both my wife are in agreement that this is the BEST Best Western we have stayed in. Bar none. We will stay there again.
The staff was wonderful! We were greeted every time we passed through the lobby. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was very good and I am a very picky person. My only complaint was the noise from the highway next to the hotel. I was assured by the front desk staff that the noise would be reduced significantly by dark and it was!! We had no problem watching some TV or sleeping. The breakfast room was great with lots of wonderful choices. You will not leave hungry!!
What can I say. I am a bit of a perfectionist. Ok, honestly, sometimes a pain because I expect more than most people. This establishment is great! Very good value for your buck! Business or pleasure, I definitely recommend you stay here if you are in the Nanaimo area.
I'd discovered this location when looking for hotels in Nanaimo near enough for us to have a head start on the next leg of our journey. This one didn't disappoint and we were very pleased with everything. Service was very good and the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. It's worth knowing about this hotel, when travelling on the Island and for future journeys, will definitely be on our radar.
Needed a place to stay near a work event in Nanaimo and this Best Western was clean, had very friendly staff at the front desk and a nice breakfast lounge area on the 2nd floor. it is nice when the staff genuinely appear to want to assist and make your stay a good one.
Excellent location! Very clean and affordable. Our bed was hard but I understand we can request a softer mattress upon booking. Other than a hard bed the room was spacious and clean. The reception staff was courteous and extremely helpful for dining options when they knew of our dietary restrictions. The breakfast room is huge and the options plentiful. We were pleasantly surprised to be given dairy free/egg free options by one of the staff. We would definitely stay here again!
love the new rooms, they are very clean. the pictures on the wall make it so relaxing, the lobby looks beautiful and all the staff are amazing. I'll be back, next time i'll bring my family with! thank you for amazing service
Came to Nanaimo for a one-night business trip. This is a nicely renovated hotel with friendly staff, clean comfortable beds, and a great breakfast. Good value for the price. Close to a number of good restaurants and only five minutes from some trails to the beach. I would definitely stay here again.
Basic hotel for a fair price. Nothing special but does the trick if you need somewhere to sleep. Coffee stand near desk is nice. Loud hallways as doors have cracks around them. Overall, good for a quick business trip but could go somewhere better with the family.
We recently had the opportunity to spend 5 nights at this hotel due to having renos done in our home. Best value in Nanaimo and it's pet friendly too. Bed is comfy, hot breakfasts delicious, free parking, friendly & professional staff. Room was kept spotless and is well appointed. We highly recommend this hotel.
Don't be fooled by the dated exterior. Newly renovated rooms were very clean and comfortable. No restaurant or bar service. Full breakfast was tasty and substantial. Extremely good value for the money. Will definitely stay again.
Clean rooms with excellent breakfast, front desk staff as well as breakfast and cleaning crew were very friendly and efficient. I would definitely stay here again. You really got a worthwhile stay for the cost
The bed was comfortable. We could hear the people above us and the peop le in the hallway but for the money it was fine. Bathroom was roomy and clean. Walking distance to theaters, restaurant and starbucks.
We were here for one night and this Hotel was perfect as it was close to everything - the Woodgrove Mall, SuperStore, Nice Restaurants (Simonholt) , Gas Station. Also very comfortable and included a very good breakfast and coffee in the Lobby. Staff went out of their way to accommodate.
We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and have always received great service.. The renovations done on this hotel are very impressive. Just loved the decor. The guy that checked us in was very helpful and upgraded us to a suite. Like I said earlier we have always liked staying here. The location is great for shopping.
Been a long-term customer in the towns where they have hotels. The staff are always polite and professional. The renovation to the hotel, while have not been at this location for a couple of years; they staff and the service were excellent. The renovation to the lobby upgraded and made it look more polished. The bed and sleep were excellent. Adjusting the room temperature was easy as it was really windy early in the evening, able to adjust to a lower temperature when the wind died down.
The renovations to this hotel are amaazing. The lobby is so spectacular now & very bright & welcoming. The family suite we were in was perfect for our needs. The only thing I would have preferred would have been to have the bathroom vanity & sink outside of the bathroom to make getting ready in the morning easier.
We were so impressed with the staff. You expect rooms to be clean and decently appointed but this was a notch above. The staff was exceptional. The complimentary breakfast had a very nice and varied selection with a roomy breakfast area and staff on hand to help. We used and loved the quick elevator.
Very nice hotel. Have stayed here many times and we were very impressed with the recent remodeling. It's lovely! Great location in Nanaimo with places to eat and a liquor store close-by!! The breakfast had lots of options and plenty of tables. Will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Nanaimo.
This hotel is in an ideal location in Nanaimo. Surrounded by many restaurants and shopping opportunities. It is also close to the downtown Nanaimo core, the Casino and the Port Theater where many wonderful events take place. Best Western Northgate Inn offers very comfortable rooms with super cozy beds and a great breakfast which is included in the room cost. The staff are exceptional, friendly and professional. I highly recommend the Best Western Northgate Inn in Nanaimo!
This hotel was located close to all amenities and served the purpose of my visit to Nanaimo perfectly. Staff was very friendly and helpful and guided us to a wonderful restaurant for dinner. Breakfast being served had lots of variety for all dietary needs. The young lady on staff greeted us with a smile and conversation and was very quick to make sure hot food was fresh and hot and all other types of food was filled. Enjoyed my stay and would not hesitate to stay again.
Front Desk staff very friendly and helpful. The guest rooms have just been fully renovated. The hotel is very clean and walking distance to Woodgrove Mal and a number of restaurants. Located just off the Island Highway.
I am not very good in remembering names, but Shawna, Rupa, Jolene, Debbie and the rest of the staff made our 2nd stay in this establishment very pleasant. We are already booked on our 3rd trip. Great location, affordable, clean comfy rooms and yummy breakfast. The only recommendation I would have if the weekday breakfast can also be until 10:30am like the weekend, thx!
Great place! Do not accept rooms located near lobby on first floor as front desk/lobby if u need a sound sleep as noise echos down the halls at all hrs. Everything else was a 10 for sure!! Clean,&friendly :)
Hotel lobby and rooms are great, breakfast was really good, everything very clean. If you are a light sleeper like myself this is NOT the place for you. It is surrounded by a busy highway and busy roads and parking lots. I booked months in advance requesting a quiet room and was placed in a room facing all these thngs and was told that WAS the quiet wing. We did eventually move but it wasn't a great deal better. 5 nights not much sleep...yawn.
This hotel is located super central, ammenities were all super close including grocery store, liquor store, coffee and restaurants. Honestly, during our whole trip on Vancouver island thiabjotel was the best stay!
Beautiful hotel, newly renovated rooms! Had a bad experience however, due to the heat in the room not turning on until the morning right before checking out. Had a very bad sleep as a result, but the hotel was absolutely beautiful.
close by everything we need. the staff are friendly. only one thing, breakfast item refill too slow. the staff is very helpful. we have book 8 room for this time. but we didn't get any discourt. hope next time we get some discourt.
great. knowledgeable staff. use of pool a bonus. Breakfast tasty. nice secluded parking. Staff made excellent supper reservation. Location made it easy to reach downtown area. Bed was super cozy and air conditioning quiet.
Newly renovated business. A great job done with furnishings and decor. Well trained staff. Quiet. Delicious breakfast. Easy to get to and from ferry from mainland. Could be better signage from Hwy. Would stay there again.
Newly renovated hotel ,very clean and well appointed. Great location if you are heading up north on the island. Not great for shopping and you have to drive to a restaurant which is really no big deal
The hotel is in a great location. Carpeting in elevators and halls need update. Couldn't figure out shower taps. Very noisy in the mornings with staff banging around hallways. Breakfast room is not very cozy - it looks like an old bar area.
Best Western is my hotel chain of choice as they ensure that all their properties maintain a high level of cleanliness, and room standards. Northgate was no exception. Check in was a breeze, room was great and because I'm a BW Rewards member I was upgraded. Highly recommend the Northgate
Great stay and perfect location for travelling. Wonderful accommodation Best Western always has given us great service but your staff at this one was likely the best. Young lady at Reception was the most professional and knowledgeable in all aspects of hotel business. Do Not let anyone steal her away !!
Staff was friendly ! Rooms were beautiful/towels and face cloths were great and location was AWESOME!! Only negative was in-room coffee. It was weak BUT the coffee in the lovely continental breakfast room was GOOD!
The hotel was lovely looks like some updates. Staff were very friendly and outgoing. And the breakfast was more than I expected for a hotel. Hot eggs and sausages waffles toast cereal muffins so much selection and the staff working in cafe were great too
Stayed in Sept 2017: Hotel has been upgraded from top to bottom since our last visit. Seems like everything is new and they have upgraded everything from beds, bedding, towels and room furnishings to a international 4-star level. We had a very quiet, comfortable night.
The employees of Northgate never seize to make one feel welcome. Ever time I stay there, someone always checks on me a few mi Utes after being in the room, asking if everything is okay in there or if I need anything.
Very clean rooms. friendly staff, close to mall and good restaurants. Breakfast room is nice and large. Lots of choice! Rooms very clean and all in working order. Coffee available in the lobby. All in all a huge improvement
Stayed here for one night . Wouldn't mind a couple more . I was told that renovations have just been completed a month ago - which explains How fresh it looks. The lobby is light-filled and a nice contemporary style . The reception staff were v warm and friendly . Breakfast was good - love the waffle makers . Even 5 star hotels wouldn't offer the range of Teas and coffees that they had for a Budget spread . Beds were comfy , bathroom was ok . Some nice touches in room - first time that I have seen individually packed make-up remover sheets provided. Also the bedside lamp that includes USB ports for charging your phone and other gadgets . Cool ! There's a v small mall northgate plaza next to the hotel . Stayed here as I was told it's walking distance to the big Woodgrove mall . But it's not a good walk though . Would take a short cab ride instead. If you are not looking to stay by the waterfront in Nanaimo and you are driving , this is an ideal Hotel .
Awesome service from the front desk. If you're lucky, Jason will be there. Recently renovated hotel. Lots of attention to details. VERY clean. Terrific sleep. Great location walking distance to almost everything.
Only 10 minutes from the ferry terminal (14 minutes to Nanaimo) the hotel has obviously been extensively and tastefully renovated. Located right on the Island Highway very convenient to travelers heading north. A huge supermarket just across the street for last minute travel purchases. Helpful caring and knowledgeable staff (they know their ferry schedules!), great breakfast (real sausages) and very comfortable room. Will definitely stay again...
I stay at The Best Western Northgate Inn regularly, as I travel most every month to Nanaimo. The staff are great. You get breakfast with your room and free wifi. Great eating places and shopping close by.
Loved that they shared local photographers pictures on their walls. Great choice for artwork. Breakfast was good. We also used the coin laundry that is available. Proximity to other attractions and shopping is excellent. Very glad all rooms had a balcony to sit outside as weather was very warm. Too bad there was no hot tub as featured on website. Very pleased we chose this Best Western over the downtown Best Western.
We stay at best western because of the great service and the points program. And the great breakfasts. AND the hospitality. Always a great stay. The location of this north gate is perfect for those travelling into parksville as well.
Stayed at the BW Northgate for 2 nights, and was very impressed. Check-in was quick and easy, the room was nicely appointed and comfortable with everything you could want/need for a couple of nights. (Although, I wish they still provided bottled water in the mini-frig). Found the room to be very clean, and "fresh" smelling. The bed was so comfortable I wanted to take it home (: My only complaint about the room - there are 3 LED clock/temp.displays that glare at you in the night - guess that's unavoidable. The breakfast room is very large and nice and bright with lots of windows. Breakfast is the usual fare - this morning I had a freshly baked waffle with fresh berries, sausages, and decaf coffee. Lots of choices and well stocked. I was very impressed with this BW - I always stay BW, but this one was particularly nice. Would certainly stay here again, and recommend it to others.
A tad on the pricey side but great staff and clean comfortable rooms. The staff are very helpful and super friendly. I forgot utensils for our meal and they had them on the spot for us. Also very accomodating when we requested a room near our friends
I was very happy with this hotel. Cleanliness is a must for me and this hotel met my standards. The staff is very pleasent and the location is close to everything and easy to get to and from. I appreciated the security safe, fridge and microwave in the room as well. I would recommend this Hotel.
This is a great place to stay. Newly renovated place, clean and bright. We are glad we booked it. It is close to.... everything (tourist attractions, highway, food, shopping, liquor store, etc...). Nice friendly staff. Decent breakfast.
Newly renovated but find Canadian hotels way over priced. Very difficult to find a decent hotel at a reasonable price. XIXONYebirnalklI have said all i need to say. looks like I will not be posting anymore comments
This hotel is a very clean and modern hotel. Excellent service by the check in staff as well as the breakfast staff. Enjoyed our visit very much. The beds were very comfortable. We will be staying there again when in Nanaimo. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.
We stayed at the BW Northgate this past Weekend. Staff at the front desk were really nice and helpful. Lots of restaurants in the area to chose from and a big Superstore just across the street. Rooms were spotless. The whole hotel looks like it has been recently renovated as the tiles in the bathroom and carpet looks brand new. Fantastic breakfast with eggs, sausages, waffles, juice, yoghurt, bagels, toast and muffins. I would definitely stay here again! One of the teenagers travelling with us got stung by a bee and the front desk staff were super helpful and found some ointment to put on it. The front desk staff went above and beyond to help.
Quality accommodation with the usual excellent Best Western buffet breakfast, just off the Island Highway north of downtown Nanaimo. Many Nanaimo hotels tend to be noisy from traffic and this is the quietest one I have found. Bonus is the Superstore just a short walk across the street.
Very impressed with this Best Western. Clean, new looking rooms. Large second floor breakfast area with a good assortment. Most importantly, they have extra parking for trucks and boats. Would definitely stay here again.
I stayed at this hotel on the advice from a coworker who is also local to the island. This hotel is going under several upgrades and the room I was given was nice and clean but I dislike the end of the hall rooms and that was what I was given - and of course without fail I ended up having poor internet connection with this room, which simply is not acceptable in my line of work. Also, not all rooms have a microwave, which surprised me, however they will provide one upon request. The location is great, close to Superstore for groceries and also close to the Woodgrove Centre Mall which also is home to Purdy's Chocolates...one of the oldest Chocolatiers in Canada. If you are visiting you must bring some of these boxes back as gifts! I was treated poorly by one front desk rep however one bad apple doesn't make the entire crate rotten...the hotel mgmt did acknowledged my concern/ dislike for my stay and turned my feeling on this hotel from negative to positive. I attached pics of what the hotel and surrounding area did appear like - I think this is good hotel for the price and recommend you try this location out!
We booked the Best Western Northgate using Aeroplan miles and were very pleased with our stay. My hubby was extremely impressed with the breakfast which was provided on the second floor: waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, juice, toast, etc. in a large room with plenty of tables to choose from. Ample parking and very close to a mall for some great shopping. Very easy to find from both Highway 19A and Highway 19 and perfectly situated to access Nanaimo amenities. We would definitely recommend it (which we did immediately and our parents stayed there 4 nights and loved it).
This property is one of the best I've stayed at. Have stayed here multiple times and always find the staff amazing. Hotel has recently renovated and all of the upgrades are fantastic. Great location, excellent staff and breakfast is included.
For the most part Best Western hotels are good but the staff of Best Western Northgate Inn were a cut above the average Best Western. I had not been feeling well and the staff did everything they could to make my stay more comfortable.
I have always appreciated the location of the Northgate Inn and the friendliness of the staff. Now that they have upgraded their décor, I am more than pleased. I highly recommend this hotel to travelers
Very clean rooms and hotel overall as well. Beds were a little soft for my liking (obviously subjective), but location was great and staff was extremely helpful. Would absolutely recommend and will stay again ourselves.
No complaints about this hotel. Nice staff. nice rooms nice breakfast, nice location. We have stayed there several times and recently the price seems to be increasing more than the rate of inflation. I think we will try to find a more reasonably priced place next time.
This is the best hotel in the area we need to be when in Nanaimo. The location is very convenient and is near several eating places. Rooms are clean and spacious. The desk staff are personable and very helpful.
We had a a great stay here. There is no pool, but the rooms are nice and the staff are friendly. It is a little further out from the town centre (not too far though) but that was perfect for us as we made a day trip to Tofino.
I have stayed here quiet a few times and the hotel is one of the better ones in town. The upgrade for the hotel did wonders for it (though it seems like they forgot to renovate the elevator as that still has the hold carpeting and looks outdated vs. everything else.) Main recommendation is try asking for a room not facing the highway as you can hear the cars go by occasionally. The free breakfast is awesome, especially the waffle station where you can add chocolate chips and walnuts among other things to the waffles. The eggs may not look that great but they taste delicious, plus it the breakfast area is very open and comfy. Usually the staff will come by and make small talk with you while you eat which is a nice bonus.
nice new renovation, friendly staff , hotel is clean , quiet and in a good location near shopping and restaurants, good breakfast plenty of parking , an good choice when looking for a place in Nanaimo
Staff at this property very helpful. Rooms are what you expect of a Best Western. Good place to stay. Breakfast was good. What would make it perfect would be a happy hour like some of the US Best Western properties are doing. A White Spot restaurant is with in walking distance which is a plus when travelling by motorcycle.
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years, but this is the first time since the upgrade. Very impressive job. Hotel now has a very modern look and feel, very clean and friendly, upbeat staff. Jolene at reception was extremely helpful at check in. Offered an upgrade which was declined because I wanted two beds, and then cheerfully arranged to change my room to a quieter section of the hotel. The only minor issue was that the breakfast bar was less that ergonomic in its setup. Congestion with people waiting for toast, waffles, etc. Overall a very nice place to stay with great staff.
I always stay in this hotel when I am up island in the Nanaimo area doing business. The hotel is quiet and clean, staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is very central for my needs with a variety of dining places close by.
I stay in many hotels and found this one has done the little things right; the quietest and most efficient air conditioner I've seen in a hotel room; a fridge that works and is also quiet; nicely appointed room; comfy bed; good breakfast...I'll stay here again
I really enjoyed the stay at the Northgate in. Professional and friendly staff welcomed us at arrival. The room was clean and almost brand-new. The air condition could be adjusted easily to comfortable temperatures. The rooms are generous and easily hold 4 people (stayed in a room with two queen size beds). Each room has wifi-connection, tv, a microwave, a fridge and a small coffee-maker. Fresh coffee is available all day long in the lobby. The mattresses were in great condition and not worn out. Curtains allow you to completely darken the room, or leave as much light as you enjoy. The bathrooms were clean and ok size wise. Mine had a bathtub with integrated shower. Over all - i really enjoyed the stay and could have easily extended it by a few days.
We have frequented this hotel for years and always been extremely pleased with staff and amenities. Hotel recently underwent a massive renovation and they did a phenomenal job. Staff, as always, is extremely professional and helpful. Our favorite Best Western!
I was in Nanaimo for a medical appt thru Worksafe BC. This night started with me originally checking into the hotel WCB had booked for me which turned out to something nightmares are made of. I called the Best Western in tears and got Shawna on the line. After I blubbered my way thru the call and explained what was happening Shawna promptly said she would book me into one of the best King suites at regular room rate and not to worry about a thing. When I arrived she was so kind and so sweet to me ( I was still blubbering and looked a mess ). I could not thank her enough. The room was luxury!!! Clean, comfortable, the most amazing mattress which was perfect for my injuries and a balcony too. After a shower I had a good nights sleep and put the earlier evening of horrors behind me. Thank you Shawna and Best Western! You have made a customer for life and I will be sure to send many people your way!
Stopped in late on a Sunday night. Check-in staff were very professional and helpful. Room was clean and up to date. The breakfast was great as alway at Best Western. Good selection for all kinds of tastes. Would stay there again. Good value for the location.
Great service during high season in Nanaimo BC. Nice central location for the wedding we attended, with grocery store 5 minutes walking distance to get the snacks for trip home. Starbucks close enough to walk to but the in-room coffee was excellent anyways. So nice to have decaf coffee ready to go in our room after arriving in the evening from the ferry.
From the time I've arrived at the hotel, I was treated with the at most respect! The staff was friendly & courtesy, my room was clean and comfortable, and enjoyed every minute of my stay. I recommend it to all.
Ocean view rooms just a few minutes from downtown waterfront city center. The Hotel itself is also Oceanfront (across street). Its not brand new or recently renovated but its clean and good value for the $$.
Hotel with renovations is great,The atmosphere when you walk in wholly the lobby is amazing, the team is awesome the rooms are beautiful, we usually go with our daughter and 2 boys but we went away for our anniversary which is June but this was the only weekend away, The room type was king with dbl sofa, so spacious Breakfast was good, delicious meal and near is restaurants and the movie theaters and the mall.. Thank you Deborah front office manager for taking care of us we greatly appreciate our get away. Sincerly Deborah Thomas & Irvin Frank Tofino. B.C.,
The staff were great on check in and out, friendly quick and efficient. All went very smoothly. I had a great nap and an even better sleep, great bed and pillows. The raspberries and waffles at breakfast was bonus!
Hotel has recently been renovated. Great king room with kitchenette. Room has everything you need. Excellent free serve yourself hot breakfast was included. Close walk to several restaurants. Will be back if I am in the Nanaimo again.
Great location in North Nanaimo with Superstore across the street, Woodgrove Centre mall and many restaurants nearby. Approx. 30 minute drive from the airport. Newly renovated hotel with nicely decorated rooms and lobby. Rooms a little on the small side, but not bad since room included 2 comfortable queen beds. Good sized bathroom. Great new Lennox AC system (the best I've experienced at any hotel!). Shaw cable with on-screen guide. Large breakfast room on 2nd floor with options including scrambled eggs, sausages, waffles, yogurt, cereal, juice, and coffee. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
First experience at a Best Western and was very happy with what appeared to be a newly renovated property. Room with kitchenette was spacious and staff efficient. Breakfast much the sMe as Hampton properties which we normally stay at while visiting USA. Bit of traffic noise til 9.30pm but quiet after that. We have more Best Western's booked this trip so hope they are as good.
great staff, friendly and helpful. location a bit out of the way so be sure to check directions. roads in Nanaimo confusing anyway! location is close to shopping if you are on your fishing or up island vacationing
All the staff were really great, friendly and very helpful. This newly renovated (just a couple of rooms on the 1st floor remaining to be completed) property really exemplifies Best Western's standards. A great breakfast is even served on real plates with real cutlery (No Paper or Plastic). I highly recommend this property if Nanaimo is on your itinerary.
This hotel is reasonably priced and offers an excellent place to call home while on business or just visiting Nanaimo. It is centrally located to all amenities and offers a great full breakfast and reliable internet and a business centre to print and scan from. The hotel was quiet being located in a busy retail area. Lots of free parking and staff who made us feel like we were at home but treated us like royalty.
very good stay. hotel staff very helpful location good general condition of the hotel is good, some rnos were in progress breakfast was good parking sometimes was a little tight, temp control in the room was touchy
Rooms were good but it was under renovation when we were there so I found out the gym was not in use. Would of been nice to know before we booked. The free breakfast was very good. Plenty to choose from. Would go back if the gym was in use. Paid with aeroplan and when we got home got a phone call that they accidentally charged it to our card but credited us. Great that they found it and didn't have argue.
we were traveling to mid Vancouver island to visit my sister and her family and we caught the last ferry to the island. arrived at the hotel around 9:30pm and the staff were fantastic. the rooms were very clean and large. the beds were new and very comfortable. Breakfast was the best we had on our entire vacation. will stay here every time we come to Vancouver island.
I would recommend the Best Western to anyone who was going to stay in a hotel.. and my husband and I will be traveling to Victoria in September and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt where we will stay. Very pleasant, all the staff were just wonderful. Thank you so much for a very fun weekend.
During my frequent visits to Vancouver Island i find the central location and comfort of this hotel to be ideal. It is situated right off the highway and makes any a great launch point to anywhere my travels take me.
Highly recommended. Great location for traveling as a tourist Thank you for allowing us to use Airmiles. Location in Nanaimo is great for moving around the city and to and from the ferry terminals Hang on to the front desk staff. They are the greatest.
Pillows were like concrete. Not sure if I was supposed to step on bath towels ,so small. Don't by any fresh seafood to eat. If you wake up at 5:30 am road noise won't be an issue. A little had to find. Other than that. It was very clean. New rooms, big. Food shopping and a few restaurants in walking distance
Renovated room was spacious, had everything I needed, Clean. Bed was somewhat hard Breakfast available Lots of parking, location is good for a quick stay or business travel but not fantastic for a vacation
We stayed there four nights and were very happy with the Nanaimo Northgate Inn. Everything was excellent, from the friendly and welcoming check-in staff, our room on the 2nd floor, the accommodating housekeeping staff, and the helpful staff in the breakfast room. That was a very pleasant room with lots of breakfast choices to start our days. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed at the Best Western Northgate and stayed on the newly renovated 3rd floor. The room was wonderful. We were on our way to Tofino and this hotel being on the north side of Nanaimo.allows for an shorter drive when heading to Tofino. All in all this was good value and a pleasant stay.
Very nice hotel, with efficient friendly staff. Breakfast in a.m. actually on real plates and cutlery instead of disposables in a nice diningroom. We only stayed one night, but would definitely stay there again. We even got chocolates like on a cruise ship.
We've stayed here before and will no-doubt be back. A currently underway renovation did not detract from the quality of service, access and cleanliness. And Friendliness! The hot breakfast provided is high quality, and well attended to by professionally friendly hosts.
Staff were excellent, rooms were great, felt very comfortable at this hotel. It was last minute for me and for the most part I can count on Best Western, this one was better than expected. It is close to a big mall and other amenities. Breakfast was same as most best westerns with breakfast, hot food and cold choices
I have stayed at NORTHGATE many times for business and pleasure. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. Currently they are renovating but this does not take away the great experience. The rooms have new carpet and beds. It was a descent sleep.
Called to reserve. They wanted to charge an extra $100 because we would arrive late. And they didn't care, because they only had one room left. We laughed at them and said "no thanks". We will never stay there now.
I don't normally take leave reviews, but this hotel stood out for me. The staff were extremely helpful, attentive, and friendly. I was really impressed by how they seemed to genuinely like thier jobs and care about their customers. Everyone from the front desk, to the hostess in the breakfast room, to the staff we greeted in the hallways were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The renovations are also very nice, the rooms have all the necessary amenities, the hotel offers free breakfast, and the service is great--so overall, I'd say this hotel provides excellent value. I will definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.
Ive been staying at this location over the past 10 years. this location is going through a major upgrade. But the new wing that is open shows the complete up grade and renovations done. I thought they were going to up grade status of the Hotel but they say they will remain as a regular Best Western. Very nice and comfortable. Even during the renovations, the work being done is kept in a very clean manner and you can see that the workers keep as quite and clean environment during the work.
Even while under renovation, the open wing works well, and the staff are always helpful. The new fit out is well done, though the new blackout curtains seem to be less effective than the old ones, at reducing traffic noise. Looking forward to the 'fully open' experience.
Recently renovated and is absolutely top notch. Friendly smiling staff and rooms very clean and comfortable and totally a place I'd return to and recommend to others. Was an excellent stay and close to shopping malls and milanos an excellent restaurant two minutes away.
Great service, Loved the newly renovated rooms but the bed was crap. It was noisy and hard... probably a really old bed lol... I woke with a sore back the next day... we didn't get to have the continental due to restaurant Reno's but we did have breakfast bags ready to go when we checked out... which I guess was okay too? Lol
Stayed here on numerous occasions over the years and found it was satisfactory and the location was great. They have recently initiated some interior renovations that are fantastic. The rooms have been completely updated as well as the lobby. Although they were still renovating half of the hotel, we were given grab bag breakfasts and Timmy's gift card instead of onsite continental breakfast. Much appreciated. Will enthusiastically look forward to continue to stay here on future visits. Hopefully the fitness center will be ready then too.
Front desk staff were super friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and tidy. Liked the coffee and tea station in the lobby. Super easy access to shopping and main highways. Really good food at little georges pizza next door.
Thank you for giving such a great room. Minus the electrical socket in kitchenette having its issue . Room was great! Location was great to! Beds were comfortable. Wifi worked very well as well which was good.
great stay even though there are renovations being done at this time which interfered a bit with parking and some of the amenities like their breakfast, however there plenty of restaurants in the area
A bit expensive for off season, but Nanaimo does not have a lot of newer places to stay and few in that part of town.Newer then the opposite of rather old,the rooms are going to be all renewed. We picked this place because of the location, and i knew it was reasonably modern.
New renovations are excellent, we had a very comfortable room a good nights sleep. staff were very excelent and helpful. close to all shopping had a good supper a short walk away at Brown Social House
Our experience with the Best Western Northgate Inn is summed up by: Wonderful helpful and knowledgeable staff, comfortable room, great breakfast to start the day, superb location, great value. We look forward to coming back.
The stay here was great. Been here quite a few times and always have enjoyed it. The breakfast is good. Room is clean. Hotel is fairly quiet. Check in and out was smooth and fast. Made the reservation on their ensure and was very easy.
We chose to stay at the Best Western Northgate Inn because of it's close proximity to the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) Offices. We were participating in a two day course and the convenience of staying within walking distance of our daily destination was very important. We also booked on our Best Western points and received a complementary room upgrade, so we were very happy with our overall experience.
Used airmiles to stay for 3 nights to attend a wedding. Room was very clean and comfortable. Also very quiet. Did I mention quiet! Breakfast was included and very satisfying. Great selection of food. Would definitely stay there again.
The front desk personal were friendly and very accommodating, the housekeeping staff always had a smile and greeting, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast was plentiful. Overall a very nice stay!
Decent place to stay if one is wanting to shop at Nanaimo's Woodgrove Mall, (walk) Rutherford Mall.(car) or Costco. Friendly staff. Room is average and clean, plus has a bar fridge. .Brekkie is included....fluffy scrambled eggs, waffle machine etc. We stay here when doing Christmas shopping or have Dr's appts. Restaurants like White Spot, Ricky's and ABC are close. About fifteen min or less to Dep. Bay ferry or downtown.
Located well for us as we were headed north to Comox but a little far from City Centre if that's where you want to be. We did find the highway noise a little disturbing but should have expected that as it was located on the Island Highway. Rooms were very clean and comfortable and well supplied! Again, breakfast supplied was the usual toast, cereal, yogurt, waffles, etc. Eggs and sausage were not great but then again, it was included with the room!
This is a great hotel with quiet and comfortable rooms with very well appointed kitchenette. This hotel is within walking distance to grocery shopping, liquor store and a excellent Thai and take out pizza restaurant. The front desk staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating. Careful to set the refrigerator in the room to 1! Setting 2 froze all my food. Great stay otherwise!
This hotel was chosen based on reviews and the location. We were touring the island and this location turned out to be an excellent choice for our 2 night stay in the Nanaimo area. Very easy to find and only a short drive from the ferry. It is located in "suburbia" but it is so handy for any shopping and day trips to Parksville, Qualicum Beach and downtown Nanaimo. (and of course no charge for parking) Our room was quite large and very quiet with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was adequate and very clean. Very thoughtful amenities, such as a bar fridge, 2 luggage stands, easy chair for reading, large desk (excellent Wi-Fi) , ironing board and iron, and good storage for longer stays. Water bottles were provided at no cost which is a small but very thoughtful perk (especially when higher end hotels charge !) There is an onsite laundry but we did not use it. Breakfast is included and served in a very large room on the second floor and has to be one of the very best and generous breakfasts ever! Trays are provided should you wish to take it back to your room. The attendant was very friendly and attentive. The staff were exceptionally helpful when checking in with suggestions for the area and our travels to the west coast. This is a mid price range property that offers great value for the traveller. Thank you!!
This place was sparkling clean and quiet and one of the few hotels with computers which actually work (they actually had two such computers in the well-lit lobby). The staff were incredibly helpful with everything. What stands out was the cleanthiness of the hotel and the aesthetics.
One of the nicer Best Western hotel's I've stayed in. Friendly staff, comfortable and clean room with continental breakfast. The breakfast was served buffet style and the room was just about big enough to seat the guests vying for tables.
sweet this was a trip to celebrate our 40 th anniversary. it was magical. this hotel met and exceeded our needs. good to be here, but the snuggles were ours, not theres. this hotel looked after us, kind of knew the score. we are coming back.
Check in staff went out of there way to welcome us! We were offered the use of glass red wine glasses when they overheard others in our group of 4 were going to open a bottle of nice red wine in our room
There were 3 clean and nice queen beds and a whirlpool tub in our suite, and there's a free continental breakfast. The decor was slightly dated and the A/C a bit noisy for sleeping but otherwise no complaints here.
I chose this BW hotel for my 2 day business trip to Nanaimo based on 4.0 review on TripAdvisor. Not many pros if any at all: - Good TV - In room safe - Ice machine is by reception (so it's not making noise next to my door) - Nice yard garden (but not in front of the hotel) Here are the cons: - Building is about 50 years old, renovated 15 years ago and new renovation is in progress - My room had a 1990's decor and old bathroom - Room was quite on the small size - Next to busy highway - Internet was not so fast and was down for 2-3 hours, staff advised I could go to Starbucks across the street as they have Internet - Work desk in room had a marble top which was so cold it was impossible to use desk for my laptop business work - Bathroom fan very noisy and barely doing the job - Breakfast restaurant barely have any lighting and it doesn't look inviting (food and beverage was very good) - Ugly parking Definitely not worth 4.0 - more like 2.5, below Best Western standards and not recommended.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon here 9 years ago and it's still as good now. It's super clean, efficient, generous. Great location. It's across from Superstore and Cobbs bread. Beds are comfortable and fresh. The staff was friendly and flexible. They were very accommodating and the breakfast was a hot meal. Spot on.
Clean, newly renovated, nice room size, friendly and efficient staff. The breakfast was enjoyable. This hotel is located in the north end of Nanaimo but close to a number of malls and within walking distance of restaurants. Best of all, it is pet friendly.
Chose this hotel primarily for decent accommodation at a reasonable price for recent visit with family in both Nanaimo and Parksville. Excellent location for our purposes, located in North Nanaimo adjacent to the Island Highway (but separated by a treed area). Good free, full daily breakfast, well patronized by guests. Hotel was quiet and clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Downside, no onside restaurant or bar currently operating, but we did discover the excellent Longwood Brew Pub and Restaurant. Also nothing really to explore locally by foot (other than a few stores including a Super Store), a downtown or waterfront location would be much better for that.
We use this Best Western at least annually for business because of the location. It delivers what I expect for this price-point and type of hotel. It's a bit older but it has been well maintained over the years. It used to have a pub/restaurant in the hotel (closed - just a breakfast area) but there are several restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. I rated it 'very good' because of the age and because it doesn't stand out over some hotels, but it's a good choice. It uses a wall AC/heat unit which can be irritating for some people, but on the other hand there is a balcony, which you don't see often anymore.
I enjoyed the stay at this hotel because we were given a room that was both spacious and quiet, and the atmosphere was both welcoming and relaxed. The hotel is located in the northern part of Nanaimo.
This is a good value hotel. Not fancy but everything is in good shaper and working order. The staff is very nice at this hotel. It is located nicely at the north end of Nanaimo and is quite. The price for the room is why I say it is good value.
Clean, friendly, newer hotel, with fluffy towels, a cheerful and helpful staff, with a good breakfast included. It is a bit north of the city center from Nanaimo, but near many convenient restaurants, convenience stores, etc, and out of the hub-bub of downtown Nanaimo. If you have a car it is much easier to park here and drive into the city center than try to stay downtown & be concerned about parking. Also, some of the hotels in downtown appear a bit run down unless you can really splurge.
It is an okay okay hotel. The staff is friendly. The free breakfast is good - sausages , eggs, scrambled eggs, waffles , breads , jams , cereal , fruits etc. The carpets in the hallways and the elevator are very dated. The housekeeping folks for some reason were leaving just 3 bathing towels instead of 4. Of the 4 nights we stayed there , everyday we had to get 1 more from the reception, this in spite of writing it in the request form left by them!!!!! Very strange. By the way , this was the very first time I had stayed in a Best Western, my preferred hotel chain has been Marriott. I made a note in my mind to avoid Best Westerns in future. Thankfully i did stay later at Best Western Plus in Kelowna and it was a great hotel.
We did ask for a quiet room, but the traffic noise was terrible. Maybe it would have been even worse in other rooms! Couldn't turn the fridge off as the dial just spun and no power point. On the plus side, the room was clean, the king bed comfortable, the shower great and the room was quite large and the parking was good, and the staff friendly and tried to help. Location was far away from wherever we wanted to be, parks, downtown, restaurants etc. it was probably good value, but I'd prefer a quieter place next time.
The front desk staff were lovely. The room was very clean and the king bed was comfy. It is cool breakfast is included and I really appreciated they had gluten free items and almond milk! The scrambled eggs tasted weird though. All in all very good, affordable hotel. Parking was easy and convenient.
We st ayed three nights at this hitel. While we found the staff and facilities, for the nost part to be excellent, it had two specific defects. The most important is that the wall air conditioner is mounted so that it blows directly in the sleeper's face. As a result, we opened the window (fortunately we were on 3rd floor). Vents directing the air upward would have solved the issue. Plus, it is always on, and we could not seem to regulate the temperature. Second, the hotel is located quite a distance from downtown. While that improves quietness, it also should mean a less costly place. Even with AAA discount our price before tax (12%+ in BC) was almost $200 Canadian. The conversion to US dollars certainly is helpful here. Our stay in Victoria, also at a Best Western, while slightly more expensive was much more pleasant. We could actually go for a walk in a perfect setting of James Bay. Finally, but minor, is trying to find the place when coming south on Metral Rd which is accessed from s/b Canada 19. If the building on the left looks like a hotel, it is. However, because there is no clear signage, we had to drive around the block to find it and approach from the south.
10 -15 minutes from the Ferry Station. Great value., Rooms were clean and very comfortable beds. We were 4 adults sharing a room with x2 queens. At check in we were pleased to be upgraded to a suite that had a second bedroom ajoined with its own double bed and TV. We could have used additional bathroom linens and likely could have had them if we had requested them. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. The breakfast room decor could use some help and the breakfast foods were as you would expect for the setting.
BOOK DIRECTLY THROUGH THE HOTEL TO GET THE BEST RATE!!! DO NOT BOOK THROUGH BOOKING.COM!!!!!!!! We had to visit Nanaimo for a swim meet and had to book at the last minute because originally we were supposed to camp. I was stressing out because according to Trip Advisor, everything was pretty booked up. I ended up booking through Booking.com from the Trip Advisor site and was not happy about the inflated price, but thought that was all that was left. When we arrived at the hotel the staff was shocked how much we were charged for the room. DOUBLE what the hotel itself was charging for the same room. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH BOOKING.COM. Call the hotel directly. Staff was super helpful, professional and friendly. As for the hotel itself, I loved the location of the hotel. Superstore across the street, close to the mall and several restaurants. I would definitely stay there again.
Coffee in the lobby -good coffee and all the fixings plus Apples Now we register fast and efficient and knew my name No Restaurant only a very good breakfast on the house in the morning. So before stopping at Dinner time maybe take sometime and have dinner.
Very nice hotel workers are so nice! Best breakfast ever and I love the deck ?? it has everything u would need kids would love it because I know I did the wifi is super fast too so I was happy about that I'd totally recommend this hotel. The location is wonderful, they gave a sauna place for laundry and more!
very good and clean hotel.excellent location close to restaurants and stores.hotel staff very helpful in special Trina at reception. keep the standard up and for sure you will be a busy hotel 365 day/year.
We had a good and comfortable stay at this hotel. The only downside is that it is near the highway and doesn't have a nice view. We weren't looking for a resort place and didn't notice the traffic noise, but some may not like that.
Conveniently located off the main highway, this property has all the basics covered: well appointed clean quiet rooms, and overall the property is well maintained. Surrounding neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of stores and restaurants. We were traveling with surfboards and without my asking, the desk clerk went out of her way to find us a room with a parking spot in front that allowed us to stow the boards inside for the night instead of leaving them on the car. Other staff were also friendly and helpful.
I have stayed at this hotel many times when visiting Nanaimo. The staff are polite and very helpful. They acknowledge you when entering and leaving on some excursion. The rooms are clean. The beds are extremely comfortable. I recommend Best Western Northgate Inn.
This is a really nice hotel and just fails five because of traffic noise. The desk staff were welcoming and very helpful, as were all the staff here. The room was was very clean, large, with all the usual amenities plus a kitchenette and balcony, and very comfortable. The only problem being that it was next to the highway and traffic noise went on until the early hours. The breakfast room is one of the biggest we have seen with plenty of space. The breakfast choice was varied and plentiful. The hotel is close to restaurants and only ten minutes from historic downtown. We would be happy to stay here again, but only in a room away from the highway.
Nice courtyard for the pups to play in and do their stuff. Doggy bag on arrival with treats! Amazing continental breakfast that felt like a real breakfast. Highly recommend this place. Great shower and very clean. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
We stayed here for 5 nights, great room ,good beds and pillows, if I was being picky the bathroom could use an update. Free water bottles, computers, and printers, use of umbrellas and great staff to answer any query . Restaurant size breakfast room, breakfast is included, and is very good with hot plates, lots of fruit etc Hotel is walking distance to Mall and restaurants etc. Best you ask for north side of hotel, much quieter than south with is close to highway.
The hotel was very clean and comfortable although only a roadside location (a little noisy but aircon drowned the traffic out) and therefore no view but only an overnight stop before we caught the ferry back to Vancouver for flight home. What singles this hotel out was its staff! All the staff were friendly and helpful but the staff on Reception were outstanding in their helpfulness and warmth! . We stayed in 5 Best Westerns during our 4 week stay in Western Canada and I can definitely say the Northgate Inn staff beat the lot!
Great Service, loved our stay enjoyed the room was awesome slept in.....Close too all the grocery stories. Asked for an extended check out which was handy, snacks and coffee there after long trip Parking is handy air conditions in room was great so hot out
They took good care of me, gave me the top floor room on the quieter Metral Dr side of the hotel as per my room preference request. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and courteous, I really appreciated the nice way they greeted me and upgraded me to a suite. Generally a nice clean and quiet suite, with 3 x comfortable queen beds. The free breakfast was good, and the dining area was huge. It's actually in the restaurant. Just an overnight stay. Drove about 10 mins the next morning, to Departure Bay to catch the BC Ferry to Horseshoe Bay. Turned out to be a very efficient plan and was good value for money.
What an incredible stay. The staff are great. The restaurant was amazing. Great lacation, I'll stay there any day. Ample parking spots. Great hotel to explore the region. The room was huge , clean and updated.
the room was nice, comfortable bed and nice customer service at the front desk. The laundry was broken which was a disappointment to us. Breakfast was good but in an inconvenient place. The staff was helpful and greeted us with a smile.
A nice place to stop if you are doing business in the North of Nanaimo. In for business, our usual haunt was booked solid for a convention. So we looked further afield. Since we were working in the North, my travel agent suggested this place. I am glad she did. walking distance to several good eateries, and close to our work location, this place was nicely located. The check in was efficient and friendly. The room spacious and comfortable. Bathroom well appointed, and good counter space. The bed was comfortable, with nice linens. The shower was ok for pressure but not super. The heat lamp a nice added touch. Breakfast - included - was great! This included a hot portion. The wifi was free and good enough speed. All in al a nice place. Would I return? Yes.
Stayed 4 nights and everyone was very helpful and friendly. Great location and close to wonderful restaurants. Could break up the sausage with bacon for breakfast as got boring after being there for 4 mornings.
We stayed overnight at the Northgate since we did not want to drive all the way to Tofino in one day from Kamloops. The hotel was great - clean, comfy and close to shopping and restaurants. The breakfast room was exceptionally clean and the food was good for hotel fare. We would recommend this hotel and we would stay here again
Make sure you get a room that is not on the "jake brake" side of the hotel if you are sensitive to being able to sleep - having the patio closed helps - and is necessary as there is no secondary lock or screen anyway.
Initially difficult to find, since streets to left and right of main highway have different names. But it was easy after the first challenging search. Parking was adequate, and in the evening when parking lot was full, there was ample overflow space in a nearby mini-shopping area with an all night pizza place to boot. Within easy access of the Island General Hospital and other shops in various Nanaimo shopping areas. Staff were most friendly, helpful, and effective. They are the core of this institution. Place is clean, well maintained and maintenance staff quite efficient. Ice and vendo machines were quite close to lobby, thus quite accessible and more secure, since the front office desk was nearby. Breakfast buffet was adequate and they seem most willing to improve the breakfast menu based on clients' feedback.
Hotel is north end of Nanaimo close to Woodgrove Shopping Mall, lots of great restaurants and easy access to highways. Very friendly staff. Rooms very clean and beds comfortable. Great Thai restaurant on next property, also liquor store and around the corner is Brown's Social House. For groceries you can walk across the street to the Super Store. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the hotel, will stay there again.
We stayed at this hotel while visiting family in Nanaimo, BC. It was a comfortable stay, with a lovely complimentary breakfast each morning. Staff were very helpful, both in the dining area and at the front desk. The hotel is conveniently located at the north end of town, next to the largest shopping centre. We will definitely be back, and will use this hotel as our home base :)
The room was very nice, roomy and clean. The staff, all of them, were nothing but professional and friendly. The hotel was a bit noisy with the outside traffic being close by and our room was next to the door to the restaurant on the 2nd floor. It was windy and the flags outside the window were flapping pretty hard.
Room was nice and clean, the downer was the air conditioner!!!SO LOUD! And INEFFICIENT! Don't know how we managed to sleep through the noise,we must have been exhausted!! It was nice to have a complimentary breakfast and Free WiFi to make up for the terrible a/c situation.
Irene and I had a nice two day visit with her sister and grandchildren. We stayed in the North end of Nanaimo due to the fact it is close to her grandson's business, Sound & Cinema and the Longwood Brew Pub. We had a hoot. The Best Western Northgate offered a nice sausage and egg breakfast and the note on the desk asked to review this type of breakfast! Excellent, Excellent and we enjoyed the orange and apple basket at the front desk as well as at the breakfast facility. This hotel is near a liquor outlet and also near a great Thai Restaurant (Kasira Thai Fine Cuisine) and we felt we were back in 7th Heaven in Hua Hin. Great food and very close to the hotel. The room was very clean and the front desk were very attentive. We had two large double beds, fridge, microwave, safe and a very nice TV. Great value for the money we paid. We would recommend it as well as the Longwood Brew Pub down the street. Oh yes, we met Irene's grandson at Brown's Social House and this establishment was within one block from the Northgate Inn.. All in all, a very wonderful visit!
This is a very clean and well run Hotel with clean upgraded rooms that have a microwave, safe, coffee maker and bar fridge for travellers. Nice complimentary breakfast with sausage, egg, continental items to start your day. The gym is being renovated and all new equipment being bought. Excellent location across from Superstore grocery and a short walk or drive to the large mall for shopping. Rooms are sound proof which is nice as my room looked over the parking lot. Thank you for a nice stay.
Visited my aunt in a residence not far away from hotel The staff was very friendly and genuinely interested in my stay. The room was clean neat and very pleasant. The bed was superb and I got a lot of needed rest. I hope to visit the hotel again in the near future.
We stayed 4 nights - found the beds very comfortable. We were looking forward to using the hot tub they advertise on the website... they have taken it out and it is no longer there. Breakfast was good, we liked the hot choices that they had. Staff was great and very helpful. With the exception of not having a hot tub as advertised... everything was as expected with a Best Western.
Stayed 1 nite before traveling to Tofino. WIFI speed good. Complimentary breakfast has hot items and adequate choices. Across the hotel is a plaza where you can purchase food. Front desk staff polite and helpful. This hotel is located with road traffic on both the front and the back. So there is some traffic noise but not disturbing. Wall air conditioner however does rattle though. We had two queen size beds that are comfortable, with good shower water pressure.
The hotel wasn't too bad, front desk staff were pleasant. I found that the road noise from the main road directly behind the hotel was a little much at times, especially when louder vehicles drove by.
we love this hotel, love the hotel friendly staff, close to the stores dr appointments....the rooms are spacious, they have family suites. The breakfast area very spacious, love making waffles. overall the hotel
The Hotel is in a great location convenient to the mall. The house keepers are very pleasant and friendly. They have a continental breakfast and a small work out room as they were renovating. The rates were ok for the area and the beds and rooms clean..
This is a modern clean hotel we stayed at on the start of our road trip to Vancouver Island. The staff really made us feel at home and the breakfast staff were especially nice. My girlfriend needs gluten free and is lactose intolerant and they were very accommodating. We would stay again when in Nanaimo, BC
Very nice Hotel. Excellent staff all around..Nice wide parking spots.Even with the thermostat turned all the way down, room was to hot to sleep. Air conditioner to noisy to sleep or hear TV. LG product TV's not the best for sound or quality picture anyway.
Stayed here for 4 nights recently. Have stayed here before because this is a very clean, comfortable hotel in a good location. No complaints whatsoever. Plan to return next time in Nanaimo. We are diamond members and pleased with this place.
The front desk staff were incredible. Phoning for a dinner reservation, advising on a place to shop for some things we were looking for. Very fun to deal with. The room was nice and clean and easy to get to the hotel off the highway. Will certainly be back.
Clean and comfortable but noisy due to central location. For some reason the windows do not block the outside noise very well. I thought they were open when we first got in the room. Very good location for shopping and running errands. Breakfast does not have as many options as other Best Westerns.
Our stay at this hotel was very good, rooms are really nice and very clean. Overall really liked hotel. Breakfast was nice lots of space for seating and food selection was good. Only thing i would suggest is breakfast is set up during week at 6 and weekends at 7 we were heading to a ferry and were rushed to eat to get there. That is my only suggestion is set up same all week and weekend....thanks
We stayed with our two teenaged grandchildren (a boy and a girl). They each had a queen size bed and we had a separate room with a queen sized bed. We had a fridge and microwave oven which proved very handy for kids late night snacks and a breakfast when they didn't want to go to the restaurant early in the morning. There was an extra bathroom just down the hall which was a very valuable amenity as we all seemed to need the one washroom in the room at the same time. Excellent family accommodation.
Wonderful Reno's outside and in! New restaurant on site, nice new additions inside and out, much more modern and updated, staff are wonderful as well. Great family stay, great value, loads of shopping centres near by. I would recommend this hotel.
The location of this property is excellent, Close to shopping and dinning. The staff were very friendly and polite. Room was a good size, quiet location as well. Would definitely stay here again. The only dissapointment was that the breakfast did not include scrambled eggs and sausage. However the breakfast that was provided was very good.
I like to stay here for the location, its on my way into town and close to dining and shopping. staff if friendly and efficient and continental breakfast is included. Although for breakfast use to carry 0% yogurt but noticed this time they didn't have. had to skip it, darn :-)
Sam and I stayed here over Xmas. It was clean and comfortable . It is easy to get to and close to anything you could need .The only down fall was the checking time but that's small potatoes . We would stay here again for sure. They were very helpful at the front desk
We got off the ferry very late. It was nice to be greeted by the smiling face of the person at the front desk. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was nice: waffles, apples, oranges and juice, etc.
After a long flight from Ontario and then drive, arriving at this hotel was welcome indeed on Christmas Eve. The hotel boasts a lovely foyer and the friendly front desk staff automatically upgraded us to a king suite which was clean, we found it very quiet, comfy bed, cozy linens, lots of hot water and towels. Front desk folks had great suggestions as to where to dine on Christmas Eve (a nearby Italian restaurant called Milanos was totally awesome!!!). The breakfast was included, mostly cold choices with a yummy waffle bar and very friendly and attentive wait staff .... a great way to start Christmas Day. This hotel is so close to the highway as well as great shopping and dining. If my husband and I have the opportunity to be in Nanaimo, we would stay here again.
We were given a room on the third floor which is great as this is the top floor. Our room faced the north and this is not a good thing. This room had a lot of “road noise” as there is a four lane road that runs alongside the hotel. The air conditioning was quite loud which made for an issue when trying to sleep and opening the patio door was not an option because of the loud road noise from the traffic. The hotel is older and the room reflects the age with the orange carpet. This room had a king bed with two night tables with lamps on each night table. The bed has five pillows to choose from. I was not impressed with the sheers on the window and it does not affect the comfort of the room but for the price one pays, at least have sheers in good shape. The hem was repaired manually and it showed and the side was not repaired at all. There was a small table with a lamp and two chairs. The television sat on a three drawer cabinet. The cabinet contains a safe. There is a foot stool along with two luggage stands. An iron and ironing board are included in the room. There is a kitchenette with a larger sized fridge/stove/sink combo. There are dishes, some cutlery, and other utensils for cooking with. A frying pan and pot (medium sized). This all comes in handy for those of us that do not like to eat out every night and accommodates our diets. The room also has a microwave, toaster, kettle, and a single serve Keurig machine. I like the fact that paper cups are provided for the coffee. There are four coffee servings provided along with the coffee sweeteners and dry creamers. The bathroom has a hair dryer and wall mounted shampoo, conditioner, and body soap dispenser. Three sets of towels are provided. There is a washer and dryer that are located in the same area on the first floor where the gym and hot tub are located. The washer and dryer use eight quarters for each and change can be obtained at the front desk. There was a bottle of Cheer and a box of fabric sheets on the table. The machines do appear to be clean which is appreciated. Parking, when we parked for the evening around 18:00 one night, the parking lot was fairly empty but we left at 00:30 and the lot was packed. There appears to be parking available on the other side of the hotel and that too was fairly full. Elevator, there is an elevator which is very handy and you are able to use the stairs as well. Breakfast, your usual fare of waffles, dry cereal, breads, yogurts, fruits, coffee and tea. The breakfast area is clean. Nearby shopping, with this kitchenette, there is Costco, Wal-Mart, Save On Foods, along with other areas to shop at not to mention the availability of fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the area.
With the exception of having terrible signage and driving past the place twice in the dark it is your typical adequately appointed hotel...its like coming home in that you know what you are getting! Shower works and its clean. Rooms are okay size...no hesitation in recommending! Our room was a bit loud being orientated so close to the highway...not too bad though!
As soon as we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff at the front desk.We asked about restaurants in the area and got some very good recommendations. The room was very clean and comfortable. The continental breaky was ok.Boiled eggs, waffles, cereal, fruit nothing special.Lots of shopping around the area.I'd stay here again.
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful on both check in and check out. The room was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The continental breakfast is good. We would definitely stay at this hotel again in future.
Right off the highway in Nanaimo. Rooms are modern, clean, and spacious. Beds are super comfortable. Friendly front desk staff, even gave us a complimentary upgrade since it was my birthday! Only thing I could say they can improve on is the breakfast - almost everything had gluten or dairy in it, so it makes it a bit difficult for people with dietary restrictions to enjoy it. That said, having complimentary breakfast included is a nice touch. Thanks for the great stay!
What a relief to enter a room that had everything we required or wanted: free wifi, free safety box, microwave, mini-fridge, iron, ironing board, free (one) bottled water, free Keurig coffee, soap, conditioner, body lotion, two luggage racks, desk and desk chair, armchair with ottoman, three brighter-than-the-usual-hotel lamps, etc. Great stay, wish it had been a bit cheaper as it's not as close to downtown as many other hotels (BW has another hotel downtown). If Best Western Northgate Inn reduces their rate we will definitely be back as we visit Vancouver Island frequently.
Really nice service. Clean rooms. And somewhat updated. We stayed on the top floor and didn't hear much noise but It is on the side of the highway so light sleepers might hear the road noise. The breakfast was decent for a free breakfast. Close to a few restaurants and Starbucks, and a mall and grocery store. I didn't use the jacuzzi or pool, so can't comment on that.
We have stayed at this hotel many times before and have always found this hotel to be very comfortable and staff friendly. Its a great place to stay being so close to the local malls as well. Looking forward to seeing your new renovations completed.
Not the best, Best Western I've stayed in... but still very nice, clean, and comfortable. Best part is it is in walking distance to many amenities including dinner and shopping. The rooms seemed a little older (old school thermostat), but hey... I'm just there to sleep and leave.
Loved our Stay, Staff is excellent, Even though they are renovating there exterior it did not interfere with our stay...They don't work at night....Housing Keeping takes pride in there job, Restaurant for Continental Breakfast is Great, love the selections. Rooms & beds are very comfortable
This Best Western offered me a safe and comfortable place to stay at a reasonable rate. The staff were helpful and the place was clean, although very dated and in need of some upgrading...eg carpets. Bathroom was too small.
My wife and I were visiting friends in Nanaimo and needed a hotel for one night. We chose the Best Western Northgate as it was reasonably close to our friend's home and we are also Best western Rewards members. Check in was swift and efficient, even though a storm was knocking out the web-access for the hotel. The room was very nice. The breakfast room used re-usable dishes and cutlery which we greatly appreciate , rather than paper plates and plastic cutlery. And the lady tending the breakfast room was a pleasure..
This is a good property for a business stay. The room was clean, comfortable, well laid out, with good lighting and work space. There is a coffemaker, microwave, and small fridge. Breakfast was pretty standard, although they did offer 2 waffle makers, not just one. The "exercise room and spa" left a LOT to be desired. Most of the few machines weren't functioning. The spa was in the same room and uncovered, so the room was quite steamy. Someone had tried to "fix" this by jamming a sliding window open, which created a cold draft. One side of the property faces the parking lot, the other the highway. No restaurant on the premises, only the breakfast buffet, and the Thai restaurant nearby was closed Monday night. It worked well for my purpose (a job interview the morning of checkout). Staff was friendly and helpful. I'd stay again on business, or recommend to budget travelers. I've knocked off one star for "cleanliness" based on the condition of the spa & exercise room; the room and bathroom were quite clean.
Hotel is under renovation with scaffolding and construction activitity. No pool and whirlpool jets not working. Breakfast did not include any hot items. Bathroom had silverfish infestation. Room was located adjacent to a busy highway with noise day and night. Paid $150 for 1 night and fell I was overcharged.
Booked in to the Best Western Northgate Inn for one night prior to attending hospital for surgery. Staff were very welcoming and concerned. Room was very nice and comfortable. Did not take advantage of the breakfast due to the surgery issue. There were some renovations ongoing but this did not detract from the stay.
Stayed here for 2 nights. We stay at BW hotels often so have a good flavour for what to expect. Because we are diamond members, we were automatically given a newly remodeled room on the top floor on the quiet side of the building. Our bed and bedding was super comfortable. It was nice having a mini kitchen, too. However, we were extremely disappointed with the free breakfast. Boiled eggs, apples, dried cereal, toast, muffins, Danish and make your own waffles didn't work for us. We've had superb high protein breakfast varieties, etc. at many other BWs. There's no excuse for offering such lousy breakfast choices here. Likely won't return back here.
This was my third stay at the Northgate Inn. I keep going back due to the friendly staff and the accommodations. This time, travelling alone, I had a king room for two nights. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel had everything I needed. My room was on the main floor, and faced the highway. There was noise from the street, so light sleepers may want to request a room on the other side of the hotel. There are laundry facilities, a pool and jacuzzi. I did not use them, and I took a pass on the continental breakfast. Unfortunately, the on-site restaurant had closed, possibly for renovations. Hopefully, it will reopen soon.
We are Best Western Diamond Level. We host people to stay while doing business with us in the Okanagan, and always use the Best Western, West Kelowna, BC. This hotel is fantastic and has a top rated continental breakfast, all our clients rave about it. The Northgate Inn in Nanaimo was a disappointment as far as breakfast, few items, no eggs, dry bread. Hotel bathrooms were too small. The outside was being renovated, but the inside needed it more. Staff very friendly. Great location to restaurants, shopping and ferries.
Without a doubt the cleanest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Convenient location, close to highway but relatively quiet. Complimentary breakfast was fine, addition of hot items other than waffles would have made it excellent
From the moment we arrived unannounced at the front desk, we felt looked after. They went all out to help us check in and feel welcomed. The room was neat, clean and functional. The location was perfect. The breakfast 'room' was awesomely equipped for every taste and desire. We slept peacefully.
Decent place to stay in the Nanaimo area, avoid highway side (lots of traffic noise) and try get top floor, can be noisy, especially if they have any kind of sports teams staying there (usually on weekends only so not too much concern for weekday business travellers)
This was a great stay. We were there for the BC Championships X-Country meet with 4 - 15 year olds. Due to the convenient location they were able to walk to the Woodgrove Mall and theatre etc. No bored teens!
Rooms were great, no issues, nice to have the safe for your valuables. Breakfast was great and on time (06:00), fresh as well and well presented. Internet connection was good, really overall I would recommend this hotel. For the price it was a good value as breakfast was included. Quick access to two highways made it very easy to get around as well.
Very friendly staff, fine room with coffee machine, microwave and safe, good bathroom facilities, adequate continental breakfast to get you going, good location close to restaurants and groceries stores, will definitely stay there again.
As usual, a great room and a reasonable price and great continental breakfast. Roomy and well laid out. I will continue to stay at these hotels. However, would like to get carry over rewards from one year to the next and not just a one time deal
The staff at this hotel were probably the friendliest I've ever experienced. They always said hello in the halls and proactively asked you if you needed a hand with anything. The location is very convenient; it's across the street from Superstore for all your shopping needs. The room had a larger sized fridge which was very convenient for storing my groceries since that is usually what I do when I stay in business. They also offered a continental breakfast with waffles, hard boiled eggs, cereal, coffee and Holyoke etc
We have never been disappointed staying at Best Western Northgate Inn, Nanaimo. Management and staff very helpful. You can't beat the location, very central easy access to shopping, restaurants and activities.
My daughter and I stayed here for 11 days and loved it. The staff was SO friendly. Our dog got out and ran away, the staff immediately ran out to help us find the dog. We were always greeted with kindness and a pleasant smile. I got sick with a cold and flu and I couldn't sleep one night, so I went to the front desk where they have a free tea and coffee station and I made myself a nice warm tea. The staff opened up the hot tub for me at four in the morning so I could relax and be able to breathe! A 4 am hot tub and sauna in solitude, who could ask for anything better than that. Each room has it's own balcony. There is free breakfast every day, and they EVEN accommodate celiacs with gluten free bagels and waffles! Loved every minute of being there and thank you to all at Best Western. As we transition to our move on Vancouver island, this will always be a part of us and in our memories. Oh, the beds, blankets and pillows are HEAVENLY too.
I have been here almost two weeks with a kitchenette as I brought my small dog with me. The room is very clean, the hotel very quiet. A great safe place to take the dog out for his business (even in the middle of the night) I have found the friendly front desk staff to be overly helpful in accommodating any need I had. The free use of computers, printer, in the lobby an extra bonus. The complimentary breakfast is always good, lots of choices for food, fabulous service by the lady that attends the breakfast. There's free fruit, muffins, coffee all day in the lobby. The cleaning staff are so helpful. An excellent place to stay. Will highly recommend. Have already told a few locals that if they have to recommend a hotel to anyone, this is the place to go. Also, it's in a great location, close to the highway for easy access to all kinds of restaurants and shopping, some of which are in walking distance too.
