"Fine"

08/07/2018

This hotel is clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. Can't comment on food as I ate out and didn't have breakfast (although I thought breakfast was expensive). Bar and restaurant looked clean and well-kept but very bland decor. No wows but fine for a night or two.

"Hotter than hell"

03/07/2018

This hotel is probably fine in winter. At 25 Celsius plus, it's the last place you want to be. The restaurant feels like a sauna even at 8am, with overhead sun pouring through the corrugated plastic roof. It's fortunate then that there are so many local attractions to escape to. There was no way we wanted to spend a minute more than necessary in our blazing hot room. If you're travelling solo, forget the pool. It's only opened if you make a direct request, and solo swimmers are not permitted, nor are unsupervised children under 16. The staff were mostly very young and a bit clueless. The overall impression was that the hotel ran for the convenience of the management, not the guests. With a hot summer ahead, they really need to stock up on portable air-conditioning units. On the plus side, the room was clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom spotless. The shower worked well, and if we'd wanted hot water, there seemed to be enough. Breakfast was generous and with a wide choice of items.

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I'm appalled that you experienced 25 degrees, in July, during your holiday in Cornwall, it is a rare occurrence for the UK, and was broadly publicised through media channels, but I will do my best to ensure this never happens again, should you wish to return… The safety of all our guests is paramount, so yes, we do have pool procedures, as do most Hotels. My staff, who read our reviews on a weekly basis, are not clueless, we are very proud of our young & local staff; they are the ones that served and cooked you Breakfast, and left your room spotlessly clean… All comments are welcome, constructive or otherwise.

"Friendly, immaculately clean, lovely warmed pool."

Ideally situated for so many memorable days out. eg St Michaels Mount, Polperro, crabbing at Pandora. The best afternoon tea or lunch we found at The Duchy garden centre close to Lostwithiel near the castle.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review, I was happy to see that you enjoyed your days out while staying with us. We are very lucky with our location, with it being easy to get to the majority of Cornwall's main attractions from where we are situated.

"Polite staff, very clean & great heated pool."

3
12/06/2018

The hotel in itself is very basic. The politeness of the staff makes up for this, the room was very clean with all of the amenities you would expect from Best Western. The heated outside Swimming Pool was an absolute delight. Breakfast was basic, nice to be able to order a choice of eggs - scrambled were delicious. Coffee was from a machine, it would have been nice to have a proper coffee machine especially as the hotel was quiet.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed using our pool. The Coffee machine that we use is a 'bean to cup' machine, which produces the freshest possible coffee. I apologise if it wasn't to your liking but hopefully our 'delicious' scrambled eggs made up for it!

"Disappointing"

10/06/2018

We have stayed at this hotel in the past and generally enjoyed our visits. However, one thing that has not changed is lack of training for the bar staff. When we were last resident there, and wanted post-dinner drinks, we were amazed that the bar person did not know what Cognac was and whether they had it. They didn't! We were passing through Lostwithiel this visit and stopped in for a drink The beer was no problem, but my wife's request for a Bloody Mary threw the person staffing the bar (and reception!) into a state of panic. My wife had to instruct her how to make it. Hardly impressive - train your staff!!

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I would like to apologise for the fact that we did not meet your expectations. The member of staff that served you is employed as a receptionist not a bar person and does not have a lot of experience. This is, obviously, a failing on our part and I will personally be going through all drinks with all staff members who may have to serve on the bar within the next few days. I do hope that you will come and visit us again and give us the opportunity to show you that your experience was not a typical example of what you can expect from us.

"Good stopover point"

4
05/06/2018

When you approach this hotel from the main road and see it plus the banner advertising a Sunday night carvery for a tenner you would be forgiven for being somewhat crestfallen. It is a singularly unattractive building which ideally would be knocked down and rebuilt as it is very 1960s. That said the owners have tried their best to do with it what they can and the important point is that the rooms have comfortable beds and clean bathrooms and no grounds for complaint. There is a nice decked area in the garden with tables to enjoy a drink. The bar is terrible as for some reason it has two large TVs and that simply awful cold white lighting - note to management LED Hut online sell very good WARM white low energy LED, hotels are about comfort as a core, we do NOT want the place to resemble a dental surgery. The restaurant again is ok but 1960s and intimate it is not. Let's not forget that this is a 3 star hotel (by the way the stars equate to facilities NOT quality so do not let 3 stars put you off). Staff are very pleasant - well one young man looks like his girlfriend just dumped him for his best mate but we all have problems. Lostwithiel is a nothing of a place but a good stopover point. You won't rave about this hotel but importantly you should not be disappointed in any way.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We use all feedback to identify areas in which we can improve in order to enhance our guest's experience. We are currently in the process of redesigning our bar area and this will (hopefully) be completed in the autumn, I do hope that you will come and see us again after this has been finished so that we can get some of your honest feedback on the changes that will have been made.

"Very good value for money"

4
01/06/2018

This is a very good hotel with value for money. We stayed here with family for 2 nights. The check-in and check-out process is smooth and there was a minor mis-understanding about the breakfast payment at check-in (apparently booking.com had not updated the hotel booking system) but this was resolved without fuss :) The service overall is acceptable. The restaurant staff look busy but were helpful when needed. The waitress who served us at the Dinner was exceptional (Sorry don't remember the name) and very proactive and welcoming. We had booked a triple room and were allocated room that is part of the outside block of the hotel. It was very clean and refurbished room with good sized beds and bathroom. The bathroom had excellent power shower. The cleaning staff made sure to clean and tidy the rooms with new towels in the morning. The location of the hotel is in a quiet and peaceful surrounding. It is very close to the Eden Project. The Lostwithiel village is beautiful and good for a nice walk. There are 2 car parks in the hotel and we had no trouble in finding a space for the car. There are no parking charges for the car park. The hotel has outdoor heated swimming pool which is covered when not in use. The reception staff will open the covers when you want to use it. The pool was very clean and the water was lukewarm. There should have been pool towels provided but we didn't get any and so used our own towels. There were no sunbeds or seating facilities (We visited in April so it was needed anyway ..perhaps these are provided in summer) The best things we liked are - 1. The clean and tidy room with good size beds and power shower. 2. The swimming pool. Not many hotels have this facility at that price. My son absolutely enjoyed the pool. 3. The dinner at the restaurant. The food was delicious and presented in true MasterChef style :) The restaurant in the hotel has dark lighting for dinner and the decor seems bit jaded but the seating arrangement is comfortable. The rooms are spread in the main building and the outside block. To go to the outside blocks, you need to climb up and down a small flight of stairs. Good experience overall :)

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for writing us such a detailed review, I hardly know where to begin! I was happy to see that the misunderstanding about breakfast was sorted promptly for you and that you were well looked after by the restaurant staff. We are very lucky to have ample parking for the number of rooms that we have here, which is a real bonus in Cornwall where space in the towns is generally at a premium. I am assuming that you must have stayed when we were awaiting delivery of our new pool furniture. Rest assured that we now have ample seating available around our pool and plenty of tables for drinks to be rested on. With regards to towels, we do provide these generally when we are asked for them as a lot of people prefer to bring their own. I'm sorry that this wasn't made clear to you. Lastly we are very lucky to be located in such a beautiful small town and Lostwithiel is well worth a good look round if only for the quaint houses and number of antique shops!

"Sunday Roast"

3
28/05/2018

Only average for me. I have stayed here many times in years gone by and the food was always very good but now part of Best Western and Sunday roast is not worth visiting for. Not in the area long enough to try A la Carte but may go back.

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your review and sorry to read that you didn't enjoy our Carvery, it's so popular now that we have moved it to Sunday nights we are full nearly every week! We are also proud to of been a Best Western Hotel for the last 30 years!

"Super hotel - A real gem"

27/05/2018

Unprepossessing from the outside, but very well appointed inside. Immaculately clean rooms, comfortable beds and plenty of parking. Really excellent traditional English breakfast. For the Gin connoisseurs, a great sellection of gins will quality mixers. I really recommend this hotel.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I was so glad to read that you enjoyed our gin selection! We are hoping to add a few new ones soon (including a VERY locally made one) so I do hope that you will come back and see us to sample some of our new gins soon.

"Good touring hotel"

21/05/2018

My guests spent 4 days at this hotel. It doesn't look anything special from the outside but inside all the rooms and public areas have been refurbished. Rooms very comfortable and well appointed on 2 floors only.Note no lifts so if stairs are an issue ask for ground floor. Staff friendly and helpful.Food good. Drinks are a bit pricey but typical for this type of establishment. Small outdoor swimming pool in a delightful enclosed area(a sun trap when we have some). Plenty of car parking space even for a coach!! Overall good Best Western hotel.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to write us a review. It was a pleasure to host yourself and your guests at our hotel. The patio area that the swimming pool is housed in is South-facing so catches the sun for most of the day and is, as you said, a real suntrap and a great place to relax after a busy day sightseeing.

"food and drinks expensive"

food and drinks expensive rooms tidy great power shower free parking swimming pool not as it was suppose to be as advertised the area is very quiet and a bit run down the hotel could do with updating a bit

"Lovely visit"

06/05/2018

A very pleasant stay at the hotel, staff were very helpful and proficient. Plenty to see and do from here including a trip on the Camel Trail from nearby Bodmin. Good food, clean and comfortable rooms.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I'm glad you found our location convenient. We are, indeed, very lucky to be situated in an area where it is easy to get to Cornwall's top attractions. I hope that we get the opportunity to welcome us to your hotel again in the near future.

"Break away with our dog."

30/04/2018

It was our first time at this Hotel. We were all made very welcome, even the dog had a special box with treats ,blanket and poo bags. The beds were very comfortable and everything you needed . Our room was no 36 ,so it was convenient to our car and easy access to the village and walks by the river for our dog.The food was also very good and plenty of it.The breakfast was especially good with lots to choose from. We would certainly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to return.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always great to hear that a guest would recommend us. We love our canine guests here at Best Western Fowey Valley and we are very lucky to have 6 rooms in our courtyard block that are perfect for access straight to the car park and, as you said, down to the river for great walks! I hope that we get the opportunity to welcome you all to our hotel again in the near future.

"Comfortable hotel in central Cornwall"

5
26/04/2018

We stayed here for a few nights and found it to be perfectly placed for visiting towns such as Padstow , Looe , Fowey etc. The staff were friendly , welcoming and helpful .The hotel and room was clean and comfy. The breakfasts were plentiful and freshly cooked. . We will definitely be revisiting , especially as we had to cut our stay short due to a family issue at home .

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review. We are lucky with our location in that it is very easy to get to a lot of Cornwall's top attractions from where we are, I'm glad that you found this too! I hope that we will get the opportunity to welcome you again, and that this time you manage to complete your stay.

"Wedding Anniversary "

3
22/04/2018

My Husband and I stayed for two nights, Reception staff and manager were very friendly. The room was comfortable and clean, Furniture a little out dated.Bathroom was ok but the shower could do with being updated. We had a meal in the restaurant on Friday night, was seated and informed that there was about a 10 min wait, which was fine. We didn't have a starter but just a main meal, which took over an hour to arrive. While we waited we were just offered one bread roll each. There was only about 5 other couples in the restaurant on that night, so not really rushed off there feet. We would stay again.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems that you encountered in the restaurant during your stay. I will be speaking to our head chef about why you had such a long wait, as an hour is clearly unacceptable! I am really glad to read, however, that this has not put you off coming to stay with us again. I look forward to welcoming you back with us very soon and showing you that the service you received was not up to our usual high standards.

"Comfortable hotel in an excellent location"

5
16/04/2018

We've had bad experiences of Best Westerns in the past - this was not one of them! A great hotel in a convenient location. We spent three nights here, visiting Newquay, Watergate Bay, Fowey and the Eden Project. The bedrooms were clean and tidy, with very comfortable beds. The hotel comprises of the main hotel with rooms, with a separate block with additional rooms that can be accessed outside (if you have mobility issues this may cause a problem). The hotel comes with free parking which was handy, as many of the hotels in Fowey do not offer this. Breakfast was a basic buffet but tasty and filling. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive to Fowey which has lots of lovely independent shops and a great choice of pubs, restaurants and cafes. This was the perfect hotel for exploring Cornwall. It has a small outside pool which wasn't open when we were there because the weather was poor. Great service from staff, our room was cleaned each day. If you are looking for a comfortable, basic, clean hotel this is it! We will be returning.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We are very lucky here to have a large on-site car park which enables us to offer all of our guests complimentary parking. This is unusual in Cornwall where space is at a premium! Our location is one of the reasons why our guests come back time after time. As you quite rightly say it is very easy to get to a lot of the main attractions that Cornwall has to offer. I hope to see you back at our hotel very soon.

"A little gem "

5
01/04/2018

This is the third time we've stayed here and I hope it won't be the last. It's a great little hotel, central for visiting Cornwall. The bedrooms have been recently renovated, with really comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. Breakfast is varied, with hot and cold buffet dishes and also hot dishes, such as kippers and smoked salmon, to order. It has a comfortable bar lounge, a small outdoor swimming pool and friendly and helpful staff. My only (tiny) issue is that breakfast is served from 7 till 9 during the week, which can be a little early for those on holiday. A small point which would never stop me from staying at this lovely hotel.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I can think of no higher praise than a guest returning time after time and still saying that they want to come back, thank you! We take a lot of pride in making our Hotel as comfortable as possible for our guests, our rolling refurbishments are just a small part of this. We hope to see you again soon, and maybe next time you will get to try out our lovely heated, outdoor pool.

"Really friendly and welcoming hotel"

5
26/03/2018

I recently stayed at the hotel for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. From our arrival on Friday, where we were welcomed by Deanne who offered to keep the kitchen open if we wanted to eat after our 6 hour journey, to the waiting Staff who looked after me on Saturday night when I had dinner in the restaurant, I felt very comfortable. The room was really nice, the bed was comfortable and there were generous amounts of tea, coffee and biscuits, which makes a nice change. Breakfast was very nice, with a lot of choice of healthy options, fruit, pastries and a full cooked breakfast. The whole atmosphere was very friendly and I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Cornwall

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review. I always think that if a guest says that they would recommend us it is one of the highest forms of praise. I was very happy to see that you were so well looked after during your stay and that you felt so comfortable. I hope that you will come back and see us another time and explore more of our gorgeous county.

19/03/2018

room recently renovated so clean and comfortable. only downside, it was outside down one flight of stairs, then up another. not good in the bad weather .when I remarked on this I was told that the room we were in had been renovated, how lucky were we! food in restaurant very good, breakfast very tasty, and " posh fish and chips"very yummy.Staff friendly and pleasant. good position for eden project.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
We are very lucky with our team of staff here and I am always particularly pleased when there hard work is acknowledged by our guests in a review. Thank you! I am glad that you enjoyed our food. For me a big part of staying in a hotel is the indulgence of a cooked breakfast so we try very hard here to make sure that it is of a high standard and that there is plenty of it. We are very well placed for the Eden Project (just a 15 minute drive) and, indeed, for lots of other great attractions - The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House and Pinetum Gardens to just name a few! I do hope that we get the opportunity to welcome you again to our hotel.

"Great Hotel, Great Staff"

4
18/03/2018

Big thanks to the BW team, in particular the polite and helpful Josh and Amir, for making our stay wonderful (less so to the rude young chap on reception that barked ‘Josh, BAR!!!!!' right in front us. Not how I expect anyone to ask someone to do something!) The room was lovely, food great, breakfast exceptionally generous, and an overall great stay! We took our dog with us so we were in an outside room, the only minor criticism was that people seemed to leave their dogs in the room alone, which lead to constant incessant barking whilst my daughter was sleeping which was a shame. Not sure that should be allowed really as they are welcome in the bar.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I will be making sure that both Josh and Amir see your lovely review, thank you for taking the time to write it. I would like to assure you that we do not encourage our staff to 'bark' at one another and I will be speaking to the young man concerned and informing him that only Barney (the Golden Retriever owned by our GM) is allowed to bark at staff! I am sorry that you were disturbed by other dogs around you and I can only reiterate that we love our canine friends here, and they are always welcome to join our guests in the bar.

"Very good value"

14/03/2018

Polite helpful staff. Clean pleasant room. Excellent breakfast. Groupon deal exceptional value. Lostwithiel very pretty with good shops and restaurants, and nice walks. Carvary meal was good. Adequate parking

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I was happy to read that you liked our hotel and the lovely little town that we're located in. I really like all our quirky little shops here in Lostwithiel, and find them particularly useful for finding that unusual present for 'the person that has everything'! The Groupon deal is, indeed, great value. Look out for us again this coming year when we will be running a similar deal. Thank you for taking the time to write us a review.

"Lovely stay"

11/03/2018

My wife and myself stayed for two nights on a Groupon deal. Our room was clean comfortable with all we would need for a short stay. The breakfast one morning was freshly cooked on the weekday and buffet on the weekend, and both were excellent . We did eat in the restaurant and found both food and service first class. Fowey Valley is a lovely no frills hotel and I would defiantly use it again and recommend to family and friends.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you very much for your review. In my opinion there is no higher praise than being recommended! We tend to run a breakfast buffet on our busy days as it makes things so much quicker for our guests who want to 'fill up' and then make the most of their day. I'm glad that you enjoyed both our breakfasts and our evening meals. I hope that you will be able to come back and see us again soon.

Had a 2 night break taking my mother away for her birthday. The hotel offered amazing value. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Spotlessly clean and comfy room. Easy parking. Will certainly be back. We were delighted. Thank you to all the staff ??

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you so much for your great review. We are lucky to have great parking facilities here, which is quite rare for Cornwall! We are very lucky to have an amazing team here at Fowey Valley who keep our rooms immaculate. I am very proud of them and their hard work.

The hotel looked a bit tired outside but was lovely inside. Room cozy & staff great. We did eat in restaurant the first night food was good but unfortunately wasnt very hot we did mention to the staff & it was pinged but still not hot enough which was a shame. Breakfast lovely though... would go back ..

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I was sorry to learn that our evening meal did not meet your expectations and I will be speaking to my chefs regarding this. I was happy to read that they managed to redeem themselves at breakfast! I hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you again soon.

"SECOND VISIT PROVES AS GOOD AS THE FIRST !"

09/03/2018

Stayed at this hotel 18 months ago and as we enjoyed the stay so much we re-booked for our latest visit to Cornwall. Ideally situated in a central position in Cornwall it is a great base to work from for travelling in any direction. Clean, well appointed rooms and extremely helpful and friendly staff. Good English breakfast. Recommended to all.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We are, indeed, very lucky with our location here in Lostwithiel and it is very easy to get to a lot of the major attractions. Wasn't Impressed by the outside of the hotel but inside was a different story. We were greeted by Deanne on reception who had great local knowledge of the area and was a big help. Our room was very comfortable, modern and clean. Lovely breakfast with so much choice. All staff were very pleasant.

"5 week work trip"

03/03/2018

I stayed at this hotel through February and into first days of March, I found the hotel to be clean and comfortable, the bar area has a nice fire to sit by through the cold but the rooms were warm and cosy as well with radiators you could control yourself. the food was good and well presented but the high points for me was the staff as nothing seemed too much trouble and through the busy or quite times they were just as good. i would definitely recommend this hotel and will visit again though this time for a holiday and not work.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I always find it particularly satisfying when the hard work of my staff is recognised in a review. Thank you. I hope that you will find the time to come and stay with us again under more relaxing circumstances.

From the street this hotel isn't impressive but never judge a place before stepping inside! I stayed for three nights. The room was very comfortable and warm despite outside temperature. Modern bathroom with big shower. All spotlessly clean. Cosy bar with fire and comfy sofas. Food very good. Staff and residents were friendly.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I'm glad that you enjoyed our cosy bar, a great place to sit on the cold evenings we're having at the moment.

24/02/2018

Recently returned from Fowey Valley Hotel after 3 day stay. We were not disappointed. Location of hotel perfect for us on our quest to sample our ‘neck of the woods' of Cornwall. Hotel well-appointed with very amenable staff, room and facilities perfect (lovely Cornish tea!). Food lovely with all usual items for breakfast and wonderful Ribeye steak at dinner. Notable also, for hotel clients, free car park.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. I'm particularly fond of the Cornish Tea myself! We are, indeed, very lucky to be one of the few small hotels in Cornwall to have a large car park and we like to share our good fortune with our guests by keeping parking complimentary for them. I do hope you will come and stay with us again and explore some more of what our gorgeous county has to offer.

"Wonderful breakfast and a very comfy bed!"

5
23/02/2018

The hotel was very good indeed. I think we had one of the smaller rooms in the oldest part of the building, but it was still quite spacious and very nicely decorated and a very comfy bed, and the bathroom was quite querky as it was down three steps, but again very clean and nicely fitted. Wonderful breakfast, with so much choice from cereals, fresh fruit, pastries, full cooked (with super sausages, and thick bacon) to freshly cooked smoked haddock or smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. All staff were very pleasant too. Not to forget Barney the dog! 10/10 !!

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you very much for your kind review. I always find it particularly gratifying when my staff are praised as it is nice to see their hard work recognised! I'm sure Barney will have a good 'tail wag' when I let him know that he's been given a mention. I hope that we will get the opportunity to welcome you to our hotel again in the very near future.

"This is a friendly hotel with very comfortable set up."

20/02/2018

The hotel was wonderful! We traveled by train from London and it was 10 minutes from the station. Nice walk through town, passing many antique shops. It is a loverly town and an old capital of Conwall, which I learned at Eden project. The town was lovely and people were very friendly. My son played football at the local park and said if the boy lived in london they would be good friends! We enjoyed our trip and loved visiting eden project! Thank you to all the staff for making it comfortable trip.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I was so glad to see that you had a comfortable stay here with us. We are very lucky to be situated in such an historical, pretty town with friendly local residents. The Eden Project is indeed a wonderful attraction and we are fortunate to only be 10 minutes drive from it.

I have just stayed here for a week on business, you get a really warm welcome from reception and all the staff who are really friendly, my room was well appointed with a fab coffee maker, with views out across the garden, everywhere is immaculate, very comfortable bed, a great choice of options for breakfast inc lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt and the usual cooked options, there is a nice bar area where you can eat and watch sky sports, the evening meals I ate there were all well cooked and presented as were the deserts, all in all in can recommend this place, so much so I am going back next week! Thanks for a nice stay all of you

We recently stayed here for one night and were pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel was . The rooms were comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, a very comfortable bed and a iron and ironing board in the room. We were greeted by a very friendly assistant manager who went out of his way to make our stay even more pleasant I think he was called James or Chris. He was kept very busy running the front desk and the bar and done a extremely good job of both . The breakfast staff were also very pleasant especially Amid I believe he was called . Thank you all for making our stay a very enjoyable one

My husband and I spent 3 nights at this hotel last week. My husband became ill shortly after arriving and the Staff were wonderful. All members of staff were so kind, caring and very helpful. The room was spacious, comfortable and modern and the shower was first class. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The lounge was very comfortable with a welcoming fire. Well worth a stay and I would recommend to others. May I say a big thank you the Manager and all members of staff.

Just a charming and welcoming hotel, I was only there for one night on a business trip but the highlight was definitely breakfast, beautifully and freshly cooked (thank you chef) but delivered and waited on by a personable and charming man - worth going back just for the breakfast.

"Perfect and high quality room refurbishments"

It's been some time since I was last here, but stayed recently on business and was very impressed with the high standard to which everything has been upgraded since my last visit. (I don't do many reviews but felt this was needed a mention) The rooms & bathrooms have been professionally refurnished to a very high standard and represent exceptionally good value in my view (and I travel a lot) Excellent staff too (Claire on reception great contrast to a hard day just to book in with someone so welcoming & genuinely & professionally ensuring you have a good stay) - as I have come to expect from almost all BW hotels - you do feel there's more of a personal touch with most B West staff compared with some of the bigger chain & other hotels I also frequently stay in. Not the busiest of bars - But I was there for one day again mid week & never going to be that busy - always local pubs just down the road if that floats your boat. Parking good too - maybe gets busier in summer - can't say, but I parked a large van no issues in carpark. In a nutshell - If you need to be in this part of the world, then this is a hotel you should definitely consider - they have obviously spent some decent money to make the rooms & bathrooms on a par with way far higher priced *exclusive* hotels I've stayed in.

Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Lostwithiel, not realising that it was a dog friendly hotel decided to ring in the morning to see if our dog would be able to be in the room with us, the receptionist couldn't do more to help us by upgrading us to an excellent large room with everything that was needed, plenty of coffee, tea and biscuits, the staff were very helpful and cheerful, excellent breakfast catering for all tastes, Sunday evening we tried the carvery delicious with plenty to choose from. We would definitely stay here again when we are next visiting the area

My friend and I stayed there for a weekend and found it to be really comfortable. The room was clean and warm and the water hot and plentiful. The breakfast was lovely and we were told by the staff that if we required anything else, they would get the chef to cook more! I found all the staff to be attentive without being overbearing. It's not the prettiest of buildings but I'm really not bothered about that!

"Comfortable Stay in Friendly Hotel"

26/01/2018

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in a very comfortable, quiet and well equipped room with a large super-comfy bed and beautiful bathroom. Breakfasts are superb with lots of choice and plenty of fruit: fresh, dried and fruit salad. Build your own muesli is a great idea. The meal we had in the restaurant was very good. The menu is quite limited but all the starters and main courses we had were excellent. We had no room for pudding, sadly. The staff are all very helpful and friendly and we will be staying here again.

"Not welcome at the inn"

24/01/2018

I have had the unfortunate experience of stopping at this hotel on two separate occasions late November and early January. The hotel is a typical best western apart from the attitude of the staff , they were surly and had a couldn't care less attitude towards myself and my colleague. On two occasions meals were put in front of us and the server explained that they had mixed our orders up which resulted in us swopping different items from one plate to the other, surely when they knew this they should have addressed this in the kitchen. One morning i was refused breakfast and when i asked the reason as it was still clearly within the advertised times the manager Simon Bell appeared and i was asked to stop threatening his staff. His attitude was highly offensive and his accusations totally unfounded.

Cosy little hotel, did what they could to make us welcome. Nice meal in restaurant , tasty buffet breakfast with plenty of choice, would visit again. Not much to do in quaint little town but a few interesting shops scattered about the side streets.

"Generally good"

21/01/2018

We visited this hotel for a few nights in October. The hotel itself looks bleak from the outside, but inside it is ok and the rooms are good. We had an upgraded room on the ground floor and it was a good size, large comfortable bed, and good modern bathroom. There is a good sized car park round the back which is up a very narrow road, but it is very useful. Breakfasts were good with some food cooked to order. However we didn't rate the evening meal and went elsewhere after the first night when the food was poorly cooked and unappealing. The location of the hotel is good, and we were able to walk into town every evening for a meal. Highly recommended are Trewithen restaurant and Asquiths, where the food was really cordon bleu, but the prices not too high. Also the Italian Calogeros was good. The good location of the hotel meant we were in easy driving distance of The Eden Project one way, and Lanhydrock, a National Trust place in the other direction. The hotel has a lovely little garden area and pool which weren't usable at that time of year, but must be lovely in the summer.

This was our 3rd visit to the Best Western Fowey Valley and it was the usual comfortable ,friendly atmosphere we'd experienced before. Our room was convenient for walking our labrador and a clean ,warm nest on a very cold but bright weekend.Breakfast set us up for a long walk on both days and the Sunday carvery was excellent. The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Well done again we'll be back!

Room and beds clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast very good. Very quiet when we visited in January but we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Room in hotel very quiet, we had room 15 upstairs.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your charming review. We are lucky that the vast majority of our rooms are nice and quiet, as we are situated in a quaint Cornish town that is still - as yet - undiscovered by the masses! I hope we get the opportunity to welcome you back to our Hotel.

"Best place for a chill out break"

02/01/2018

Lostwithiel is a great place to use as a base to explore Cornwall, the Best Western Hotel is a good place to use as your base. The hotel can be as formal or informal as you want. I have stayed here on my own but I have also stayed here with my Wife and our Dog. The hotel has a bar and lounge to relax in whether your using the Hotel for a visit/holiday or your on business. The staff from reception, the Bar, Housekeeping or Dining room are all very courteous and helpful. Tip for visitors; contact the hotel direct for booking and ask about current packages. Good luck with your visit and be sure to enjoy yourself.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
I am always particularly happy when I read a review that praises my staff. They work so hard and it is especially gratifying when that is acknowledged! Thank you for your kind review which I will take great pleasure in sharing with the rest of the team.

"Christmas 2017"

We have stayed here a number of times and this was our best stay. The hotel was busy (Christmas Eve - 27th) and we were wondering how well they would cope but there seemed to be a lot of staff on and everything went very smoothly. The rooms (superior) looked as though they had recently been redecorated, were of a good size and nice and warm. They were serviced promptly every day. Christmas Day lunch was a masterclass in efficiency and the food was excellent (we had pre-ordered and gluten and dairy free options were catered for and delicious). Based on this visit we would stay here again.

15/12/2017

Lovely friendly hotel. Good location for eden project and st. austell. Goods rooms. Fast free wi fi. Great food at breakfast and evening. Prices in restaurants for some dishes a little over priced. Our bed was a bit lumpy - not the best for a chronic back pain sufferer! However local village lets it down - only one pub open. Everything closed on Sunday.

"Convenient and friendly"

15/12/2017

We had a very well sized room, with plenty of seating room and a large shower room. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent. The restaurant is good value for an evening meal. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Overall an excellent base for the coast around Looe / Howey / Polperro / Mevagissey. The hotel is quite easy to miss as it has a very small frontage. Lots of parking.

"Great place to stay"

15/12/2017

During the annual visit to Cornwall for the Christmas present exchange, decided to stay at this hotel & I am so glad I did! Quirky hotel with friendly staff, was advised that I not be able to book an evening meal due to a prior large event having been booked. This was not a problem for me, as I was visiting relatives & yet it could have been an issue. I arrived at the hotel quite late & the signage for the car park wasn't great! The room was clean & tidy (with some slight repairs required) and I enjoyed the breakfast the following morning. The food was fantastic & enjoyed it immensely. I will certainly be booking this place again next year, as it was incredibly good value for money compared to so many other places that I have stayed at, during this annual of visits. I also needed to visit a garage as a result of hitting a pot hole & would heartily recommend the 'Downed Garage' on the outskirts of Lostwithiel.

"Ideal weekend stay"

Having relocated from Bodmin to Torquay just 2 weeks previous to our visit,we stopped for one night following a works Christmas dinner in Lostwithiel. Checking in was handled in a v.friendly and efficient manner. Our room was very clean and comfortable but a little cool on arrival, but soon warmed up. We did not use the breakfast facilities so cannot comment on this aspect. The room price was very competitive and we would definitely recommend this hotel on our experience.

08/12/2017

We stayed here using a very good out of season offer and so it represented extremely good value for money. The room was spaceous and warm and clean. My only problem was the bed wasn't very comfortable and neither were the pillows - the bed was hard and the pillows lumpy. However this really is the only thing I found wrong. Really nice breakfast and all the staff were friendly and helpful - especially the young lady at breakfast who zipped around keeping everyone happy.

Thank you for your review. I will pass your kind words onto Bryony, who since your stay has been promoted to Breakfast Supervisor!

"Worth a stay"

05/12/2017

Booked via groupon. Booking was efficient as was check in. Normally we would not purchase deals from any hotel that charges for Friday and saturday night stays as i find this an insult to guests. 2 Days before our stay we were emailed about the hotel restaurant not being available Friday night due to a function. Our journey was 4 hours from Staffordshire but ended up 6 hours with traffic. Arriving around 9pm and once finding a parking place which is very scarce despite 2 parking areas available, there was loud music coming from the hotel. Check in staff said it will end 10:30pm which it did. Looking forward to a bath in room 20, only a rusty looking water flowed out the hot tap. Dialling reception got no response after 3 tries. I dialled from my mobile the hotels direct number and my call got answered. Reception said the water is nothing to worry about and should be fine and they would get maintenance to look at it......after flushing my toilet the water is clear, does that make it clean?. The second night after i bathed my wife ran her bath and the water had returned to near normal colour. We never did hear back about the reason for the rusty water but my knowledge regarding hot water "rust" means i know its not normal and can be a health hazard for a few reasons particularly if swallowed. Our room, beds and stay can't be faulted. Breakfast was very good and the sausage particularly was of a good quality. Staff were very young but friendly and efficient as well as helpful. Our room was tidied and complementary tray filled. Dont forget to register your car registration at reception as the car park is administered by a private parking firm.Nice hotel and stay within easy travel of supermarkets, petrol station and the beach as well various attractions which you can just Google; "things to do in PL22 0DD" and Trip Advisor has a list of things in the area. There's no reason you can't enjoy a stay at this hotel in a nice area also.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. We are indeed very lucky with our location, and it is very easy to get to lots of different areas from here, which makes us an ideal base for exploring all that Cornwall has to offer.

We stayed here for three nights over the weekend. The hotel was really nice and clean with a lovely lounge and the beds were very comfy. Tea, coffee and milk was not replenished daily. Reception staff were happy to help and always friendly. Bar staff were pretty useless. We were kept waiting on a number of occasions and were told draught beer was off - but wasn't off to two locals while came in after us. Booked the hotel on understanding there was a restaurant but were told the day before that there was a function on so we could not eat there. Not very good when we had spent 6 hours travelling. Luckily there were lovely pubs around the area.

Jane M, Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
My apologies for the poor service that you received from our bar staff while staying here. Despite your perception on us, we do take customer service & standards in our Hotel very seriously. We endeavour to extend a warm welcome to all who visit the Best Western Fowey Valley and offer a product that exceeds their expectations; unfortunately, it is regretful that we have failed you on this occasion.

"Health and Safety concern"

01/12/2017

Stayed 3 days. Nice hotel, lovely deluxe room, worth upgrading, great breakfast. Evening meal didn't quite come up to expectations when considering the price, a bit expensive. My main concern was the internal fire door upstairs was wedged open the whole time, others occasionally. Fire inspection failure?

28/11/2017

We were looking forward to our break , the Hotels frontage does not do it justice, enter from the rear car park and it improves. Our ground floor room was fairly spacious with everything we needed.Told at reception we would need to book for evening meal as were very busy.--at the most we only saw 8 other people dining, from an interesting but fairly limited menu. Food was o,k, the head waiter though put us off dining there for the further 2 nights of our stay with his over the top fawning over you as you ate. Also we ordered a bottle of white wine for me and a bottle of red for my husband--just the red turned up, asked for the other bottle he imferred that we had made the mistake and surely wouldnt want a bottle each !!, how wrong. Soon remedied though.

"Nice little hotel - not too "corporate""

27/11/2017

Stayed for 3 night Staff very helpful, slight electrical problem with our room due to the refurb but fixed no issue while we out at dinner. Breakfast excellent. Sunday evening carvery a very good idea and good value Room spotlessly clean and made up very efficiently each day Walls a little thin, I could hear downstairs snoring! But the bed was extremely comfortable so I wasn't kept awake for too long Would stay again and our new favourite place to stay in the area If you come in the summer there is an outdoor pool too (not a joke!). Clearly too cold to be used in the winter

Stayed here this weekend with a group of us. Can't fault the hotel. Rooms lovely and clean and never had so many sachets of tea and coffee and not just normal coffee but decaf as well. Breakfast was really nice and the sausages the best quality I've had at a hotel. Staff friendly and even joined in with our games.plenty of car parking places. Will return with the family

"Travelled with dog"

24/11/2017

We had an offer of two nights staying at this hotel, our greeting by the reception team was great, we arrive with our cockerpoo, his first night away from home, and the fuss ade of him at registration was great. Out room was on the first floor, a comfy room double bed and single bed,, tea and coffee making facilities an arrival pack for our pet included two feed bowls, blanket and treats. We chatted to the really friendly manager with his dog. and he pointed out places to visit and run the dog. The walk along the river leading to a large park is easy to reach.and Par Sands fantastic to run the pooch Breakfast was set up for us in the bar [dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, quite right too as not every one wants a dog looking at them] the bar area was fine, a table with waitress service for tea and coffee, etc help yourself buffet style breakkie was available and plenty. Local pubs all take dogs and food is good in the area. A lovely time was made better by the friendly staff. These are a credit to the Management team

"Winter Break"

24/11/2017

We purchased a Groupon deal for 3 nights at this hotel. There is ample parking at the rear and side of the hotel. Registration was nice and easy. Our room was in an annexe on the ground level and had a double a single beds. A well presented bathroom, slightly dated but clean and spacious and a big flatscreen TV on the wall. Our only complaint was that both beds were excessively soft and dipped in the middle. I have a bad back, so found this a bit uncomfortable. The room had a digitally controlled radiator, which really knocked out the heat. We turned it off as it was very mild and we prefer to be cooler. Breakfast was excellent, a lovely room, over looking the outside heated pool, which is closed at this time of year. Cereals, croissant and danishes, fruit, yogurts and grains, toast and an excellent cooked Cornish breakfast. The sausages, pork and black pepper were exceptional. The staff were lovely, polite and efficient. We didn't use any other facilities, so we can't comment. We used it as a base for viewing the area. We were 10 minutes from the Eden Project and Lanhydrock, a National Trust house and garden. The house was closed, as they were preparing for the Christmas season. The Lost Garden of Heligan was only half an hour away, just the other side of the nearest big town of St Austell. There are more luxurious hotels to stay in but if you want a good base camp, where you will eat well and be looked after, while vising the many delights of East Cornwall, then this won't let you down. Forgot to mention, lots of little local shops in Lostwithiel, pasties, pies, clotted cream (not Rodda's but local farm produce) etc. It isn't the prettiest Cornish town but it is honest.

"Perfect for exploring"

22/11/2017

Stayed a couple of nights in a family room in the courtyard. 5/5 for cleanliness, comfort and facilities. Easy access to the car park which was great as we had a dog with us. The staff were friendly and always helpful. The breakfast was great; fresh fruits, cereals, pastries and cakes, rolls and lovely breads plus locally sourced full Cornish cooked breakfast. The hotel is very well placed to visit Fowey, lanhydrock, Eden etc and Lostwithiel is in itself a lovely town with riverside walks. I would happily return

"Good location for St Austell "

21/11/2017

I bought a night's stay for 2 adults & 2 children (7 yrs old & 6 months old) on Groupon, so didn't know what to expect. The hotel is dated and could do with an overhaul. But it has character. The family room was an ok size. Beds were a bit lumpy. It was refreshing to see that the room had a decent size TV & it was mounted at an angle so all could see from bed. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was a spacious cubicle and very powerful. I dealt mainly with Trina, right from the time of booking. She was always very attentive and quick to respond to any enquiries that I had. Also the Lady on reception on Sun morning was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, there was self service as well as specialised items on the menu. Would visit again if in the area.

"Short Break"

16/11/2017

Just returned from a three day break . The hotel is very nice , our room was spacious and nicely furnished with a nice big window . The bed was very comfy too. Plenty of pillows . Breakfast could finish at 9.30 to allow a little more time for those who want a lazy break. We did not eat in the restaurant for dinner other than Sunday Carvery, which was adequate and good value , as the dinning room lacked any atmosphere. But, all in all, a lovely hotel and would certainly stay again.

"short stay at Fowey Valley Hotel"

14/11/2017

Had a lovely three days at the Fowey Valley Hotel. Room was very comfortable and roomy. Had breakfast every day, but did not eat in the evening as we had met family and eaten with them. The only criticism was that the room was very hot, tried to turn heating down but in the end turned off completely. Will definitely visit again.

"Rushed breakfast "

11/11/2017

Lovely room, everything we needed, only issue was breakfast, they told us 7-9am, first morning we got there at 8.50am they started clearing away 9am so couldn't have pastries or toast which we like to have after our cooked breakfast, not before! The second morning got there at 8.40, buffet breakfast but no sausages, hash browns or eggs, they said we could order them, they took 20 mins to come at which time they had started clearing the pastries, toast etc so couldn't have anything else after, when on holiday we like a leisurely breakfast but we felt rushed on both days, think they need to get that sorted!!!

"Comfortable stay."

4
10/11/2017

We had a very comfortable break at The Best Western in Lostwithiel. The only thing that could be improved is the times of breakfast. It would have suited us better if breakfast ended at 9.30 or even 10. 7 - 9 is fine, if you are staying at a hotel for business, but it's a bit early if you are on holiday. We stay in hotels a lot and 9 is unusual, even on weekdays.

"Very nice break"

09/11/2017

We enjoyed a 3 night stay at the hotel. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised with our room, the beds were really comfortable and the shower was really good. We enjoyed the carvery on the Sunday night and the following 3 breakfasts. The hotel was in a good position as a base for traveling and we visited Polperro, Fowey, St Austell, Liskeard, Looe and the Eden Project easily. The staff were friendly and helpful and we look forward to returning one day.

"great location"

3
08/11/2017

We stayed for three nights in room 21 which was spacious, clean and comfortable. I felt the bathroom could have been improved with the addition of a cabinet of some sort or shelving as there was nowhere to put toilet bags apart from the floor. There was one narrow shelf. The water was hot and the shower powerful. The noise from other rooms flushing toilets and running water was quite loud at times. The breakfasts were good but we didn't enjoy the carvery. The beef was inedible as it couldn't be chewed, we pointed this out to the waitress who said she would 'tell the kitchen'. We were disappointed that no-one from the kitchen came to apologise. The staff were all very friendly and we would certainly stay again.

"Mr.Philip Heffer"

07/11/2017

We stayed on Sunday 5th November. We had room number 35, which was clean warm and inviting. The restaurant was another matter. Being a Sunday, the evening meal was a carvery. We had confirmed a vegetarian option was required. It transpired that a nut roast was not one of those options, which as a regular diner in similar establishments, I would have considered this option as a regular vegetarian requirement with a carvery. The mushroom Wellington was apparently out of stock and therefore the alternatives were baked fish or a tomato and chilli risotto. Which were not compatible. We asked for a non alcoholic lager/beer. These are apparently not stocked by the hotel, as there is no call for them. The yorkshire puddings were dried out and inedible.we were very disappointed Phil Heffer

06/11/2017

We stayed here for two nights over the half term holiday. We found the hotel comfortable, the food good and the staff friendly. They were especially good with my son who is 9 years old and has special needs. The staff made our trip and I would recommend this hotel.

"Best western, Fowey Valley "

06/11/2017

My partner and I have visited Best Western twice in 3 months. The hotel and surroundings are very nice and the view outside is lovely. There is a lovely cafe around the corner if you decide to have breakfast somewhere else and there is a nice pub very close too. We did not eat breakfast or dinner at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. The bedroom and bathroom facilities are clean, spacious and tidy. The bed is comfortable to sleep on. The only downsides were, the TV had terrible reception and the sound kept cutting out and the shower has extremely low pressure. On our second visit it was so bad that the water kept going from ice cold to boiling hot water. Other than that, the staff were friendly and the location is great as it's close to Polperro and Fowey.

My husband and I spent three days here in October. We had a large room in the annexe. The room was very clean and warm. Good supply of tea/coffee facilities. Nice large bath sheets for the shower. The staff were all very pleasant. Check in was efficient. Service at breakfast was very good. The hotel was very busy so it was buffet breakfast but you could order salmon, scrambled, poached eggs etc. I especially enjoyed the fresh fruit. We did not eat dinner in the hotel so cannot comment. There were guests using the heated outdoor pool each day. I would definitely recommend Best Western Fowey.

"Family Get Together. "

25/10/2017

First visit to this charming little town. The Hotel was very central for our family visits , and was better than expected. We asked for 3 ground floor rooms , and that is exactly what we got. My very elderly Mums room ( room 2 , was particularly good with a walk in shower . The rooms were very clean and the beds were surprisingly comfortable for an older Hotel . We stayed in the Hotel for the Sunday night Carvery which looked very good . However the Beef was very tough and dry , and I thought it had been left over from Lunch time.? I had a word with the staff and was given a completely new plate of food with different meats which were great. On the downside , the very young waiting staff were conspicuous by their absence , and we were kept waiting a long time for our wine and water, and had to ask several times. When we booked this Hotel , we did know that breakfast was an extra £12 per person , so as we don't eat much for breakfast , we did not eat there. I do feel that the Hotel should at least offer a smaller option at a reduced price .! Overall , the reception staff and Bar Staff were very nice and helpful , and went the extra mile to find my husbands glasses. We would definitely stay there again when in the area.

Good hotel with comfortable beds, close and safe car park, helpful staff. Good for exploring Cornwall, Eden Project. I cannot say the same thing about restaurant, they have a lot to improve- the food was cold, the wine was warm, the medium rare steak was dry. And I ate the most expensive English breakfast-13£!

"Great Stay and very Dog Friendly "

5
23/10/2017

My mother and I stayed for 3 nights with my dog Tilly. The hotel was very welcoming with great facilities for us and the dog. We stayed in a family room which was very spacious and clean. The only downside was the bathroom floor which seemed to have a lot of condensation but otherwise was well maintained. I thought it was excellent value for money and the breakfast was excellent.

"Great location for this part of Cornwall....."

21/10/2017

My wife and I had a very pleasant stay here in Oct '17. We had a lovely spacious room at the front of the hotel which was clean and very comfortable in every respect. Ideally located for the north and south Cornwall coasts, both of which have some lovely old fishing ports to visit. As a huge bonus, we had very good weather. The Eden Project continues to be an amazing place. Very pleasant and helpful staff. This makes such a refreshing change when compared to some other hotels we've used recently. Excellent breakfast. Dinner menu rather expensive. Sunday carvery - delicious and good value! Overall.... we had a very pleasant stay with BW, Lostwithiel. Go ahead - book it!!

"We said we would return - and we did."

17/10/2017

We first stayed at this hotel in Nivember 2016 - two nights and three days of pure enjoyment. As we drove away we said we would return - we just have. It was another perfect two night stay. Standards remain unchanged - that is: excellent in every respect. The friendliness, helpfulness, and professionalism of the staff is unwavering. The comfort and facilities in the room was of a high standard - just as we found last time. Breakfast was superb. Undoubtedly there will be a third visit to this great establishment - maybe sooner rather than later! (The boxes below are not allowing me to click to give my rating but for sleep quality, service, and value I give all categories five stars.)

"Brilliant customer service!!!"

16/10/2017

We recently stayed for 3 nights and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. A special mention for the Deputy Manager Jane Moore who was great from the moment we walked through the door. The hotel industry is in need of a few more stars like her. WELL DONE JANE!!!

"excelent hotel .would definately stay againnext time in Cornwall. nice and central."

"3rd visit - as excellent as ever"

5
15/10/2017

As well as being in an excellent location for exploring the beautiful Cornish coast, villages and moors the main feature of this hotel is the customer service and the relaxed atmosphere. The room was as light, clean and comfortable as before with wonderful shower. The staff are predominantly young but appear very well trained to look after you - nothing is too much trouble. Will be back again.

"Lovely 3 night stay"

09/10/2017

My Partner and I have just returned from this lovely Hotel. We had a very peaceful stay even though there was a large coach party staying at the same time. We had booked a Superior Room which was well worth the extra for the upgrade. Fabulous comfortable huge bed, very modern bathroom with a powerful shower over the bath. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble. I have to mention Amir in the restaurant who served us each evening and 2 mornings. A very nice helpful young man who provided us with an excellent service. The food in the restaurant is really very good and we did not have one bad meal during our stay. The breakfast bacon option was smoked, but I don't like anything that is smoked. I asked if it was possible to have non-smoked bacon and they arranged for some to be brought in for the duration of our stay. Excellent Customer Service. They had just changed the restaurant menu from Summer to Winter variety and the options were limited but the dishes were very tasty and well cooked.Very clean and comfortable throughout the whole hotel and the bar area is really nice with modern décor and comfortable seating. If we come back to Cornwall again in the near future we will definitely stay here again and have no hesitation in recommending to others. Well done Best Western Fowey Hotel - it was a delight to stay with you.

"More than expected!"

08/10/2017

A pleasant surprise in that first impressions are not always the best impressions. On arrival at the hotel, it doesn't seem to be much. The front is right on the main entrance into the town with a startled "where do we go now?" and then the signpost up a narrow lane to the back of the hotel to find parking and an entrance into the hotel and reception. Lovely welcome from Jacob our receptionist. Our room was a family room which was big enough to swing 2 cats, bathroom big enough for all with bath and shower. Room was clean and had crisp linen. Nice pod coffee machine. Breakfast was buffet but one could ask for your special eggs. All in all a lovely 2 night weekend break at this hotel. Would recommend and stay again.

"Great for Groups"

03/10/2017

I brought a coachload of pensioners here for a 3 night stay and was really pleased with the way we were treated. The staff and management are friendly and helpful. The food is very good and the premises clean and welcoming. Couldn't fault it.

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you very much for your kind review, we are a busy Hotel for groups of all sizes, ages and nationalities as Cornwall has so much to offer everyone; we hope to see you back again soon!

"Very slow booking for carvery"

3
03/10/2017

I was with a group of 20 and had to get a Carvery ticket but it seemed to take forever - I paid given receipt and went to the seating area only to find I did not have ticket for Carvery so had to go back for it (I had a stroke 4mths ago) so wasn't very good for me - the Carvery was £9:95 and was very nice but the downside for me was carrots and parsnips were together -not everyone likes parsnips so I resorted to just fishing out the carrots — it appears this restaurant is not geared up for large numbers and is the slowest to anywhere else I have frequented ‘

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your review Tony; I was in fact our first night back with our Winter Carvery offering, a party of 41 had booked with us originally which they then all decided to pay individually naturally throwing us back a little with time and confusion, but I'm glad to hear you felt it was nice and I will certainly mention the vegetable arrangements with our chefs!

"Convenient"

Booked last minute. Not cheap, but clean, lovely room and excellent breakfast. Very comfortable bed. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Would use again if in the area. Lostwithiel is an interesting little town.

"Give a wide berth"

24/09/2017

I'll keep this simple; I booked a double deluxe room in January 2017 for a function in September. When I arrived I was directed to a room outside the hotel to what was clearly a family room. When I checked out the next day, I questioned the type of room I was given, as it was not what I had reserved. The staff could only apologise stating the price was the same (£90). I was shocked. No further explanation was forthcoming. When I wrote to management to convey my disappointment and see what they were prepared to do to rectify my experience, I received a reply advising me that the room which had been allocated to me was unavailable, due to an apparent shower door malfunction! I was left very disappointed, both with my overnight experience at this hotel and with the management's lack of empathy and their response to my letter. Shame...........

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your review, we appreciate all comments constructive or otherwise, and I'm sorry we couldn't assist you any further but we felt we offered you a full explanation and exemplary service during and after your stay.

"Great stopover"

5
22/09/2017

We toured the West Country and daily chose a hotel as we travelled. We found this to be a perfect stopover as we felt we needed to fully recharge our batteries. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious, as was the bathroom, the shower was the best of our trip, the power was just short of a much needed massage. I found some of the restaurant staff a little stiff but I'm not sure that is fair criticism as I'm sure they are expected to be professional in this manner, but they were extremely courteous and responsive. Food was good both in the evening and at breakfast so all in all a refreshing stop.

"Nice meal, good value, good service "

4
22/09/2017

Nice selection of food, nicely prepared and very tasty. Ambience in the restaurant was fairly good, although no escaping the traditional hotel feel. Service was good from a mostly young group of staff, all of whose were friendly and cheerful. Good value too.

"Excellent Stay"

21/09/2017

My wife suffers from dementia and much appreciated every member of staff looking after us so well. The accommodation was very good along with a high standard of catering. The high standard of the staff is a hallmark of the BW Fowey Valley hotel. A most enjoyable stay and have booked further visits in 2018.

"Disappointed "

3
15/09/2017

My wife and I stayed for one night at this hotel and I am sorry to say we were disappointed. The room was ok but nothing special the ensuite was very tight for space, I am a big man and there was little space between the bath and the wall. The hot water tap was positively dangerous the water was hot enough to make tea a child would have received a nasty burn. We went down in the evening for dinner I went to the bar I ordered a bottle of Prosecco which was not stored in the cold cabinet and was room temperature. After our first drink I went to the bar to get us another, I stood for about4-5 minutes then I went to the dining room to ask where the barman was someone went and got him.We then went in for dinner the dining room had no atmosphere whatsoever. We both ordered to start with we had Goats Cheese Balls for my wife and Scallops for me. Both nice but very small portions. I was just about to butter my roll when the male waiter walked up and took the butter portions away. I asked him to return them which he did. Our main courses were Risotto for my wife and Duck breast for me I was not asked how I wanted it cooked it came a bit well done. Breakfast was ok except they ran out of eggs a fellow guest said it happened every morning. Except for the Receptionist who was very helpful the staff seemed very young and in need of some guidance and training.Maybe they had an off night, but with staff who the barman said were students which he was himself I don't think so

"Nice and friendly central hotel"

Fourth stay at this hotel, need I say more. I find it a nice base to visit the rest of Cornwall. Staff are very helpful and the dinning very good. The room and bathroom were kept to the same excellent standard throughout my stay.

Stayed here for just the 1 night as we were attending a wedding nearby. We had a deluxe room and was very comfortable. The little extras like, coffee machine, fresh fruit, bottle water & can of Pepsi were very welcoming. Good bathroom with bath with shower over and great light up mirror over sink. Breakfast was lovely, buffet style with full english, fruit, pastries, yogurt and juices. They do have a small outdoor pool which is heated but we didnt have time to use it.

13/09/2017

The hotel was great for our one night stop. The room was clean and the bathroom was spacious. The hotel was in a quiet location with easy parking. The swimming pool was lovely and warm despite the weather. We were the only ones who appeared to use it. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Lostwithiel is a gem hiding in the Cornish countryside and this hotel is in a super central position withing easy walking distance of several great restaurants and convenient for the Eden Project. The rooms are large and comfortable and well equipped and there is also a nice restaurant. Highly recommended!

We booked room only as we thought the breakfast was a little too expensive. The hotel has a pool which the kids loved. The room was cleared daily and the staff were very helpful. I would recommend this.

"An overnight stay..."

24/08/2017

Stayed for one night in family room with teenage daughter whilst travelling around looking at potential universities. VERY clean room, friendly staff, well positioned for travelling around Cornwall. Didn't have time for a dip in the pool but other guests seemed to be enjoying it. Had breakfast at local café in Lostwithiel (£4.95) as felt that yours was quite expensive at £12.95 (sorry!). Would recommend this hotel & thank you!

"Ideal Location"

5
17/08/2017

Formerly known as the Best Western Restormal Lodge Hotel, the Fowey Valley Hotel is ideally situated for visiting local attractions and coastal towns/villages. The staff are courteous and helpful. Rooms are clean and well decorated and the restaurant provides food of a good quality. Evening Dinner menu selection is limited; but this can be extended by requesting a choice from the Lite Bites daytime menu which is normally available until 6pm. The Hotel is a short walk to the centre of Lostwithiel with its selection of quaint shops and an attractive walk along the banks of the Fowey river.

"Very, very good....."

14/08/2017

Really great staff. They just seemed to go out of their way to accommodate the little things - nice welcome, great room, very clean etc. Heated, outdoor pool is a welcome addition, but can be a bit chilly for kids at times. We were able to enjoy it 3 times in 2 days, so it's certainly usable. Breakfast excellent - kids loved the choice and the quality. Loved the fact the hotel is so quiet. It was reasonably full when we were there, but you didn't feel like cattle - it all seemed very well organised. Really, really good hotel and we'll definitely stay again.

24/07/2017

We had a lovely stay at the best western. We had a family room which has a separate little bunk bed room for the kids! This was lovely and the girls loved having a bit of space and privacy. Breakfast was great and staff were helpful and attentive. The reception staff were also really friendly, providing jugs of milk and always smiling! Outdoor pool is a delight in the hot weather and kids spent a long time enjoying it. Being July weather is warm so rooms are quite warm. Once we figured out how to fully open the windows this made sleeping much more comfortable ( tho the dawn call from the seagulls was no surprise!!) we didn't have a view and glass was frosted but this didn't bother us as only in room to sleep. Would recommend this hotel if you have kids as they have super family rooms.

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you so much for your fabulous review, we have 3 Family Bunk rooms and yes although the its the biggest one, room 10 does have frosted windows as the view of the roof is unappealing so we thought this was the best solution for guests. I can see our heated outdoor pool from my office window and am so jealous that our guests get to enjoy it all day long! Glad you enjoyed our buffet breakfast and the staff looked after you, I am very lucky to have such a great team here. Thanks again.

"Short Stay"

3 nights stay. Nothing fancy but more than adequate. Good car parking and great breakfasts. Nice and clean with all you could want. Tea/coffee in rooms and pleasant staff. Central for our purposes - Eden Project, Fowey, Duchy Gardens was really worth a visit - what a range of Orchids and other most unusual plants.

"Long Break to Cornwall"

17/07/2017

WE decided to visit the lost gardens of Helligan and spend some time visiting other gardens and beaches in the area. The Fowey Valley was an ideal location as a base and was also dog friendly. The staff were very accommodating and service was excellent. We did not have time to try the outdoor pool. would recommend this hotel

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review which I will certainly pass onto the staff! As you mentioned we love dogs here (I have my own puppy asleep here in my office), and we have the fabulous Lost Gardens of Heligan only 30 mins away. Our heated pool is open until October half-term, hopefully you will have time to revisit us and try it!

"Two night stay"

29/06/2017

A quiet location in a charming town. Hotel room - No12 - was clean and comfortable with one major proviso. We visited during this June's heat wave. The room was south-west facing in full afternoon sun. With no air-conditioning sleep was very difficult. The food was excellent. The outdoor swimming pool was very welcome in the heat. The hotel staff were pleasant and efficient. The hotel décor was showing its age, a general smartening up is needed - ie: stained and worn carpet in restaurant and bar areas, tiles missing in the swimming pool, etc.

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your review, I'm guessing you stayed in June when the temperature hit 33 degrees in Cornwall, a challenge to us all and a one off I'm afraid so we don't feel we justify the need and expense of air-conditioning, but we do have many fans available and you can always jump in the pool to cool off! We do have an ongoing maintenance plan as we have heavily invested in the rooms over the last few years, with carpets and the front facade on our list for the quieter winter months.

"Fantastic "

24/06/2017

Just returned from a 2 night B & B break. Had seen mixed reviews on here but can quite honestly say the place is brilliant. The room was immaculate, nice size & every amenity you can think of. The free wifi access is great, much better than some other hotel chains. The buffet breakfast is amazing, so much to choose from & very tasty. The proper cornish tea & coffee is gorgeous & not scrimped on like most hotels. The staff are very friendly, polite & accommodating of any requests. The only tiny little gripe was due to the heat most windows were open which led to a lot of door slamming as they are self shutting (including our own oooops sorry neighbours) the doors could with a buffer to save the noise if like us you forget to hold the door. All in all a fantastic trip & will definitely visit again.

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review, I'm very proud of the staff I have and we are very fortunate to have superfast broadband coming into the Hotel. We did have a mini heat wave which challenged everyone I'm afraid, but I will definitely ask my maint team for some advice on softer closing doors, thanks again.

"Great stay, made to feel very welcome"

02/06/2017

Stayed with our 3 children, family room laid out nicely with bunk beds in side room. Outside pool very clean (need tiny bit of tlc) and perfect temperature even for our 11 week old baby. Had some great meals in restaurant and staff very understanding of our boisterous 3 and 5 year old. Had a great steak, perfectly cooked and seasoned! Would definitely stay again

Si B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you kindly for your review, I'm glad you got to benefit from our outdoor heated pool, so inviting with the weather we have had recently. We have local meat suppliers and great chefs here so thanks again, hope to see you back again soon.

"Good hotel, staff and an ideal location"

16/05/2017

Just spent four nights here to explore Cornwall and have been very pleased. We had a deluxe room which was spacious with a good outlook. We found several extra touches not usual in a 3 star hotel, fresh fruit daily, fruit juice and coffee machine (but only breakfast tea!). We eat in Sun and Mon evenings as all restaurants in the village are closed these evenings, the food was very good and service fine despite the hotel being busy both evenings. Breakfast was very good both days. Surprisingly, the nearby church seemed to ring its bells throughout the night which won't be so good if you are a light sleeper. The location was excellent for sightseeing around the county.

"Perfect central position for touring Cornwall that is Dog Friendly."

4
14/05/2017

My husband and I stayed at this Great Western Hotel for 10 days and found the staff willing to help wherever possible. The dog was greeted with his own blanket and treats and we ate our cooked breakfast every morning, in the comfy bar area, so that the dog could stay with us. We made use of the outdoor heated pool on several occasions. Overall, this hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring Cornwall and we particularly enjoyed Fowey.

"Weekend break"

27/04/2017

Hotel was easy to find. Plenty of car parking space, although accessed via a narrow lane - but remember that is part of the beauty of Cornwall! En-suite Room was quite small, although very clean and well equipped with pristine white bed linen. Excellent choice for breakfast - cereals, fresh fruit, dried fruit, croissants muffins, do it yourself toast, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, beans hash browns and eggs. It was also possible to order other items on request. Staff friendly.

"Warm friendly atmosphere!"

5
27/04/2017

Our second stay at the recently refurbished and renamed Fowey Valley and the excellent personal service remains the same! The staff are warm and friendly and go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Our room was bright and very clean with all the expected facilities including an ironing board, iron and a "proper" hairdryer. There were plenty of charging points in the room and free wifi is available! The little extras were really appreciated - food bowls, blanket and treats for our (rather large) dog were part of a welcome pack. The buffet style breakfast was plentiful and delicious with some menu options cooked to order e.g. porridge, smoked haddock. We ate out in the evenings but did have a bar snack which was freshly made, generously proportioned and well presented. We would certainly return and can highly recommend - maybe next time we might take a dip in the pool!

"2 day stay"

22/04/2017

Pleasant place to stay, lots of parking and the food was ok too. The staff are polite and friendly also the hotel had been refurbished recently. Quite a few places to vist from this hotel especially eden project and the lost gardens of heligan.

Simon B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for taking the time to write a review of our hotel. We are very lucky to be so centrally located on the main A390 between Liskeard and St. Austell, it makes getting to Cornwall's attractions very easy! We hope that you will come and stay with us again soon. Kind Regards, Simon & The Team

"Lovely central base for our Cornwall trip"

4
21/04/2017

We stayed here for 3 nights in late April. Overall very pleased with the Hotel and the location. Good, clean room - not huge but adequate. Ate in the Hotel restaurant on our first night. food was good but the restaurant lacked ambience as there was hardly anyone in and, as we were dining with a 5 year old, we were very aware that she should not make too much noise! Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Our daughter was disappointed that the pool was not open despite the Hotel advertising it open from April (we stayed 16-19th). I would have rated "Sleep quality" higher than "3 - average" because the beds were comfortable but there was a strange, loud knocking noise which seemed to be coming from the heating system and which happened about every 15 minutes throughout the night, which woke me and kept me awake. Maybe it was just our room (20) although I went out into the corridor one night at about 3 a.m. and the sound was seemingly coming from the radiators out there too. In all, we had a very pleasant stay. The village of Lostwithiel is quiet but offers several places to eat and we didn't need to book at all. We shall definitely return to this Hotel - just a different room maybe?

Simon B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for your review of your recent stay here with us. I was very sorry to hear that you believed our pool was closed. Early and late on in the season it is common for us to keep the special solar cover on in order to maintain the temperature of the pool. I would also like to apologise that your sleep was disturbed. The heating system is old and does, on occasions, make noises. As with most intermittent issues it is difficult to find the cause in order to be able to fix it! Kind Regards, Simon & The Team

"Great location and excellent room"

18/04/2017

Although there is no car park at the front of the hotel, turn left just after the hotel down Hillside Gardens and there is a car park at the rear of the hotel with a simple walk to reception. Checking in was quick and easy and our room was ready even though it was just before 1. Our room was lovely, light and quite large with a great view looking out over the hills around Lostwithiel - we paid an extra £10 a night on top of our Groupon voucher but it was definitely worth it. In addition to a kettle for tea & coffee there was also a premium coffee machine and a welcome tray with water, juice and fruit. The bed was very large and comfortable with plenty of comfortable pillows and we both had good nights sleep. The bathroom was great with modern fittings and an excellent shower although I was rather surprised to find that our towels weren't folded up each day but simply left on the back of the door. Breakfast which was from 8-10 was very good with an excellent choice for cereals, fruit, bread and buns as well as a good buffet style cooked breakfast although porridge, kippers etc could be ordered. The Wifi was free and certainly seemed fast enough as neither of us had any issues with accessing emails etc. All of the staff were very helpful and it was an excellent hotel for our exploration of this part of Cornwall and we would definitely recommend this hotel and would suggest an upgrade if using a Groupon voucher - although we have no experience of the normal rooms.

Simon B, General Manager at Best Western Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are lucky enough to have plenty of parking spaces on site and are happy to pass our good fortune onto our guests without charge. Room 16 (Deluxe Double) is indeed a lovely room and I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay in it. I am very proud of all of my staff here and find it particularly gratifying when they are singled out for praise in a review. They all work very hard and it is great when that is recognised. Kind Regards, Simon & The Team

"Two nights of a 7 night break"

5
16/04/2017

Lostwithiel is a small village with very few places to eat so it is good practice to book a restaurant well in advance of your arrival, we had planned on two local eating places but they were both fully booked and we ended up eating in the hotel restaurant which turned out to be much better than the normal hotel food. The hotel is clean and tidy, great views in the back rooms, fantastic staff, great parking facilities, good food, what more is there to want?

"Great base for visiting Cornwall"

Don't judge a book by its cover or this hotel from its frontage. Exceptional value as we got an amazing deal but didn't expect so much........fabulous bathroom and everything you could need in your room, spotlessly clean, amazing breakfast with so much choice and everything cooked to order and everyone so friendly. Would definitely go back.

"Great place, friendly staff, everything you could need."

I stayed here for a weekend to attend a wedding at nearby Boconnoc house - my room was beautiful, very clean, everything in there you could possibly need, comfy bed and pillows, beautiful big bathroom, kettle and coffee maker, iron and ironing board. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the young man who served us breakfast each morning was wonderful. Also, the breakfast was delicious. All in all a great place to stay - lovely lounge where you can relax and have a drink from the bar, and in summer there's an outdoor pool. I have relatives living near so will definitely book there again. There's a carpark behind the hotel, which is great because parking in Lostwithiel looked a bit of a nightmare!

"FRIENDLY STAFF AND GOOD LOCATION"

18/03/2017

Lostwithiel is not exactly a picturesque town and the Fowey Valley Hotel from the outside did not look at all inviting. However it all changes once you are inside. The hotel has had a good make-over and the bedroom we had, No 8, on the ground floor was clean, comfortable and had a view over the garden. We ate in the bar and the food was good and very nicely presented. Breakfast plentiful with a lot of choice. The hotel supplied us with discount tickets for The Lost Gardens of Heligan. There was a long queue when we arrived but being ticket holders we were able to walk straight in. Well worth a visit.

Si B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Fowey Valley, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind comments, Room 8 is a lovely room (Superior Double), and whilst I agree with your comments about our frontage which we are hoping to make a start on this coming October, we felt it paramount to ensure that our 36 bedrooms & our F&B offering were refurbished first during this past few months of the winter period. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are an amazing asset to Cornwall, and one place not to miss during your stay!

"Fantastic break"

28/11/2016

This is the third time we've visited this hotel this year! We always receive a warm welcome. All staff are pleasant, helpful and efficient. The bedrooms have recently been refurbished and have everything needed for a good stay. We have stayed here with a group of friends twice this year and this time just the two of us. Every visit enjoyed equally. Love the Christmas decor in the dining room, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening meals - plenty of choice and beautifully presented. My only worry is that this hotel will become so popular that they might not have room for us next time.

"Hotel is great, resturant needs work."

28/11/2016

When we visited the hotel seemed pretty deserted but I guess that is just the time of year. All the staff were very polite and attentive, from the front desk to the restaurant staff, they were happy to help. The room itself was very clean, well decorated and everything was catered for, a brief list of items supplied in the room. A tassimo machine with coffee pods + kettle and tea and coffee related items. dressing gown slippers flat screen tv Hair dryer. Heated towel rail. It was like a home away from home and I would definitely stay there again if the need arose. Now for the bad bit, the restaurant. It seems very overpriced for what it is. Its trying to be fine dining I think, but the quality just doesn't justify the price. The portion sizes were pretty small and around £16-£20 for an entrée. Most people seemed to order from the cheaper bar snack menu. But on the plus side they were happy to cater to our needs and you only have to ask for things like gluten free bread and they are happy to provide. To sum up, this is a very nice place to stay and we were very comfortable here.

"Great value and service"

28/11/2016

We've just enjoyed 2 nights at this lovely hotel on their fantastic Groupon deal. Our room was 'out the back' rather than in the hotel and was clean, spacious and warm. Excellent en-suite bathroom with wonderful power shower. Couldn't ask for more. Friendly check in. In fact all staff excellent. Great buffet style, help yourself, breakfast - the sausages were particularly good. Didn't eat in the restaurant as it did look a bit expensive and nothing we fancied on the menu at the time. Lots of pubs/restaurants in town to eat in so you'd never go hungry here. Having lived in Cornwall for over 16 years we'd never really explored Lostwithiel. Lovely, quiet town with lots of antique shops to wander around. Everything we wanted right on the doorstep. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to our family and friends and have no doubt we'll be back at some point. Thank you.

26/11/2016

Stayed one night on a Groupon bed and breakfast deal, hotel reception not very grand and were in a room in the annex but clean, well furnished room and good hot shower and hot towel rail, TV worked well, hairdryer and iron and ironing board available in room. Breakfast was good ( although not impressed by freshly cooked omelette) and pleasant staff were all making an effort. Dining room smartly decorated.

"Wonderful couple of nights!"

25/11/2016

We had two rooms at the Restormel Lodge hotel for two nights from 18th November. Both rooms were extremely well decorated and very clean. Breakfast was excellent (individually served one morning and buffet style the next). Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had a most enjoyable stay with the hotel being very well located for exploring Cornwall. Will definite be going back. Thank you to everyone at the hotel.

25/11/2016

Stayed for 2 night with my husband and the staff are lovely couldn't do enough for you they also asked if we would like a newspaper getting in the mornings. Room was beautiful really clean and comfortable. We had both tea and coffee facilities with hair dryer iron and ironing board in room. Our view was the swimming pool which shuts end of October. We were on room only basis as we were out and about but had evening meal there on our first night my husband had the Lamb shank which he said was very tasty one of the best he has had and the lasagne I had was beautiful and presentation of both meals was fantastic. Location is ideal as well just off main road 50 yards to pub would definitely stay here again.

"A fantastic weekend"

21/11/2016

We were given a gift of two nights for two people and a dog. We have arrived home today after a brilliant weekend. Our first hotel visit with our dog. I have to admit I was a bit worried that because we were staying in a "doggie" room our room would be scruffy. NOT TRUE! In fact one of the nicest bedrooms we have stayed. Comfortable, warm and clean. The treats for our dog were a lovely touch. Breakfast was excellent and we travelled around many lovely sea side towns. A very central place to stay. We would highly recommend this hotel and if we do go back we would stay for longer.

Lyes M, Manager at Best western Restormel Lodge Hotel, responded to this review
Dear JoanD53 Thank you for such a fantastic review regarding your weekend break here at Best Western Restormel Lodge Hotel. I'm pleased everything with your stay exceeded your expectations and that your dog enjoyed the treats! We look forward to seeing you soon.

19/11/2016

We had three nights bed and breakfast here and were very happy with everything. The room was very warm, beds comfortable and cleanliness exceptional. Breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice - lots of fresh fruit, fruit salad, pastries, cereal, 'build your own muesli' - a brilliant idea. Coffee was lovely and cooked Cornish breakfast delicious. Super bread for toasting too. We would definitely go back. The staff are really pleasant and helpful and Lostwithiel is a nice little town, well placed for walking the SW Coast Path which is what we were doing. It was so nice to return here each evening. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your kind review, we feel breakfast is the most important meal of the day so we try and have a big offering! Hope to see you here again soon, Simon and the Team.

"Nice winter break to Cornwall"

18/11/2016

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on a Groupon voucher and would definitely return, on our first night we ate in the restaurant and the food was very nice although the menu was limited for choice and because of this we found other eating houses for the remainder of our stay which is part of the adventure I think. One of the best breakfast selections we've ever had and all the staff were very helpful and friendly, with its central location for visiting numerous attractions around Cornwall. The hotel is a must stay with lovely spacious rooms and has plenty of car parking spaces, we will come back in the summer months

Simon B, General Manager at Best western Restormel Lodge Hotel, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review, our new Winter Menu is smaller than our Summer offering due to us being quieter, but the local Lamb Shanks we have on at the moment are amazing! We hope to see you next summer when you can enjoy our outdoor heated pool also! Simon & the Restormel Team

"The Eden Project in winter"

18/11/2016

Stayed here for 2 nights as a convenient location for a visit to The Eden Project just a few miles away. I really enjoyed my stay and found the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast filled me up for the day and had an excellent fish and chips meal in the bar in the evening. Just one minor moan. The cutlery they use looks very trendy but I found the knife difficult to use due to the odd shape of the handle. Thank you Bryony for sorting me out a normal knife .

Lyes M, Manager at Best western Restormel Lodge Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Austin B Many thanks for your kind review, I'm pleased that you enjoyed your stay and were able to visit one of the best attractions in Cornwall. It's great to hear that you enjoyed our food an I'm glad Bryony helped you with some more suitable cutlery. We hope to see you again soon.

15/11/2016

Had a fantastic weekend. The reception staff were all pleasant and very helpful. The waiters and waitresses were lovely and could not do enough for us. A lovely comfortable room with plenty of storage space and a decent sized flat tv. The breakfast was absolutely superb and anything that was requested was provided with no fuss. All in all a great stay and will certainly return again.

"Comfortable, Friendly and Ideally located for exploring Cornwall"

15/11/2016

We stayed as a couple for one night having previously enjoyed a very relaxing stay a couple of years ago. If anything the hotel has got even better. We received a very friendly welcome and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Our room was very smart, well decorated and everything we needed including a large flat screen TV with a full range of channels. The bed was comfortable and we both enjoyed a great nights sleep. We were visiting my daughter and granddaughter and having them join us for a very tasty breakfast was no problem. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and again the menu was varied and catered for most tastes. If you are exploring Cornwall this is a great place to stay with easy access to most locations. The hotel has a swimming pool which i would guess is popular in warmer months. We will certainly be returning to this hotel.

"Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!"

13/11/2016

We stayed at this hotel on a Groupon voucher and would definitely return. We stayed for 3 nights with breakfast included. The room was spacious and Bobby our beagle was totally spoilt. Finishing touches such as dog blanket, food and water bowls, litter bags and doggie treats were such a lovely touch. The room was a lovely size, clean, with tea, coffee, biscuits and all the toiletries. Home from home. Breakfast is lovely, sausages are so yummy. All self service, presented very well and with lots of variety. You will not go hungry! Lostwithiel is a lovely village, lots of antique shops, restaurants, takeaways and 3 pubs all on the doorstep and dog friendly. Hotel staff are always helpful, friendly and appear to be very happy in their work, with a smile on their face. We loved this place and would definitely return. Thank you for making our stay a very happy one.

13/11/2016

We arrived on the 12/11/16 thinking we were booked in for the night but I'd got the wrong date should of been 19/11/16 , the general manager who was on reception said that's not a problem if you want to stay we got the room ,that for us was superb as were the rest of the staff

"Weekend Break at Restormal Lodge"

12/11/2016

Decent enough hotel and dog friendly which is a bonus with us as we were able to take our little dog Barney. In the room they provided a dog rug and a box with dog treats and doggy bags which was much appreciated. There were a few problems which wouldn't stop us going again but our experience could have been better. Our room was in a separate block which obviously had a damp problem as you could smell it on entering the room and the corner of the room by the floor did have a few spores. When you had a shower the walls remained wet and dripping all day despite leaving on the towel rail and air extractor fan. The room was very clean but a bit cramped with a double and single bed in it. Outside our room was a little courtyard which looked damp, sad and neglected. The moss needed cleaning up and perhaps a few pot plants to cheer the area up! The staff were friendly and helpful and we were given a little table in the bar to eat our breakfasts that we didn't have to leave our dog in the room. You can't take dogs in the main restaurant area which is fair enough. Would stay again but needs a little TLC.

"Wonderful stay."

10/11/2016

My husband, two friends and I stayed for 2 nights on a Groupon deal. Our rooms were beautifully decorated, impeccably clean, warm with comfortable bed and superb en-suite. We ate breakfast & dinner at the hotel. Breakfast was wonderful, with great selection, fresh fruit, cereals and help yourself to hot food. Our evening meal was beautifully prepared and presented and delicious! Would definitely recommend staying here and will be back again.

Following clunky national DBB booking hiccups our room was upgraded foc by this Hotel. Gorgeous large spotless suite. Saturday Dinner good but printed menu very limited as booking not a cheapie break. Sunday breakfast busy, carvery style. Sunday Dinner poor, joint first choice gone and service took an eternity. Monday breakfast cooked to order, took ages, we were overlooked despite ordering twice. Staff lovely throughout.

Lyes M, Manager at Best western Restormel Lodge Hotel, responded to this review
Dear c9ckl, Thank you for taking your time leaving us a review. Apologies for the hiccup on arrival, however I'm glad we were able to offer you an upgrade and that you enjoyed the room so much. I will pass your review on to the team and ensure the inconsistency of your dining experiences doesn't happen again. We hope you return in the near future.

08/11/2016

My partner and I visited this hotel for a 3 night break at the end of October and were pleasantly surprised. we were greeted with a smile at the reception (which always helps!) and the check in process was very professionally carried out, quick and painless. We were in a room across from the main part of the hotel and were impressed on entering by both its size and cleanliness. Plenty of storage and large enough for 2 people to move around effortlessly. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and found the breakfast options more than adequate helped along by very friendly and welcoming waiting staff whom we found both attentive yet unobtrusive. All in all a very pleasurable stay at Restormel Lodge Hotel and we both look forward to a return visit next year, Thanks to all the staff who were so welcoming throughout our visit.

Lyes M, Manager at Best western Restormel Lodge Hotel, responded to this review
Dear PaulKayak, Thank you for your review of your recent stay here at Best Western Restormel Lodge Hotel. I am pleased that all of the staff you encountered made your stay enjoyable and that you were impressed with your room. We very much look forward to your return visit next year.

"Would recommend "

08/11/2016

I stayed for 3 nights and would highly recommend as the room was well laid out clean and very comfortable, the staff were both friendly and helpful. I ate in the restaurant in the evenings and the food was very nice although the menu was limited but enough choice for a weeks stay. My plan is to return with the family and also for business.

Lyes M, Manager at Best western Restormel Lodge Hotel, responded to this review
Dear MATtheVILLAN78, Thank you for you lovely review. The chefs will be delighted to know that you enjoyed their food. I will pass on your comments about the menu but I'm pleased you had enough choice during your stay. Please do not hesitate in contacting us directly for the best rates. We hope to see you and your family soon.

"2+1 Dog"

4
08/11/2016

The hotel made us feel welcome and the room fully catered for 2+1 dog. The only black spot to the stay was the bill. I bought one bottle of Proseco and was charged for two. And the price charged was more than advertised. Breakfast on the final morning was late by twenty minutes. But, overall the service was good.

"Best Western Restormel, Lostwithiel"

07/11/2016

I found a reasonably priced and very good value hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Our room was a more expensive one and was good value. Lostwithiel is a charming town well situated to visit most of Cornwall's attractions.

"A little gem"

5
03/11/2016

We booked a three night break in a standard room including breakfast. The room was larger than expected with plenty of storage and a larger than normal ensuite and was well equipped. The breakfast is buffet style with a good selection of hot and cold food and sets you up for the day. We eat every evening in the restaurant and have to say the quality of the food and the presentation was excellent and the chefs should be proud of what they produce. The staff are very good and always checked to ensure everything was OK. This is a little gem of a hotel and we will definitely be going back for a further visit. Highly recommend the hotel and it's location is ideal for visiting some of Cornwall's best attractions.

"great weekend"

03/11/2016

My partner and I went on a long weekend to Restormel Lodge above in October, on a bed and breakfast basis and had a great visit. The staff were all really friendly and very helpful. We stayed in a double room on the ground floor that was very clean and well equipped. We had an evening meal in the restaurant on the first evening which was very good. We both had duck that was cooked very well and I had a sweet that I must say was really good. The breakfast was very good and a lot of choice. All in all a great trip and we hope to return soon.

"Clean and comfy"

5
03/11/2016

Warm welcome. Wonderful bed. Small but adequate nicely decorated room. Good shower. Great breakfast with local produce - choice of Cornish Coffee - delicious. One thing that must improve - friendly young lass in restaurant had habit of balancing crocks etc and carrying them through restaurant. Wobbled a few times, near misses often. Other waiting on staff used trays for clearing - much safer. An accident waiting to happen. Would return to this hotel. Parking was a bonus in this location and no charge. Heated outdoor pool, but not at this time of year.

"Weekend break"

31/10/2016

I took up a special offer for a short break in October. We stayed here in 2015 while visiting The Royal Cornwall Show and were very impressed by how this hotel was run, so when this special offer flashed up on my computer screen I didn't hesitate to book again. We stayed for two nights which included bed, breakfast and evening meal, which included everything on the menu (excluding drinks). As before the food and service was above what you would expect for a three star hotel. If you are thinking about staying here then I promise you won't be disappointed, the staff are young, energetic and eager to help make your stay enjoyable, especially Lyes. Thanks for a wonderful stay Seán Dorking, Surrey.

"Very confortable"

Spent three nights here - well situated to 'discover' this area of Cornwall. Great breakfast, plenty of parking available. The outdoor heated swimming pool an added bonus if you are up for the challenge.

"A Little Gem"

27/10/2016

Stayed here with my daughter for a 5 day break and I could not fault the hotel. Our room was clean and nicely decorated, the bed extremely comfortable and I could quite happily have taken the shower home with me. The staff were very friendly and happy to help in any way they could. Breakfast was great and we appreciated being able to order additional items such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, as well as eating from the hot and cold buffet. I ate dinner once in the restaurant and again could not fault it. We would definitely recommend and would gladly stay again.

"Very Nice"

4
26/10/2016

Set in a really nice town with plenty to see After pulling in to one of many free parking spaces off to reception. Staffed by a really attentive duty manager who checked me in really promptly and booked me into the restaurant as the hotel was full I went up to my room which was lovely. It fit nicely between the corporate and boutique hotels. Clean, comfortable, large and quiet individually decorated without the overboard bits and pieces that some hotels go for. Hot water was plentiful and wifi was good. Only downside was view over roof of main building, but not every room can have a perfect view Food was very good quality at dinner and breakfast. Menu was small but good quality. I did get the impression that they weren't keen on people eating in the bar, lack of cutlery and condiments was a bit of a clue. If you need a hotel in the area then this is definitely one to consider

"Anniversary break"

23/10/2016

Absolutely excellent could not fault this hotel at all. Everything from the arrival, wonderful room and the food was outstanding! Staff were fantastic Do not know how this is only a 3 star Very highly recommended

"A Blissful Autumn Stay"

5
18/10/2016

My friend and I had a lovely one night stay in early October; we had to postpone an August booking because my friend broke her arm and the manager, Jane, was most helpful and considerate of our circumstances in rearranging when it involved the non-transferable application of a gift voucher. As it turned out, the October weather was so good that we were able to swim in the lovely outdoor pool and go cycling at Lanhydrock house. The 3 -course dinner was superb, compliments to the chef and to the sweet Asian waiter who served us most obligingly. Would recommend the hotel and stay again

"Comfortable convenient base"

4
18/10/2016

Friendly staff, excellent food and good value. The lounge was rather small, not very inviting. The room was warm and comfortable, there was plenty of car parking space, and the hotel is in a good location for the Eden Project, Heligan Gardens and Lanhydrock.

"Very Pleasant Stay"

17/10/2016

We used this hotel as a base to visit mid Cornwall, and what a pleasant hotel it is. A friendly welcome at reception by the duty manager, the room was very clean, with a really comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom with a wonderful power shower. Breakfast was fantastic with good quality ingredients, the staff were very friendly and attentive. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We booked a 3 night stay and extended it. Lovely atmosphere in the whole of the hotel nothing was to much trouble. Loved the little doggy letter & treat box in our room it made us smile. The village is very quaint with some lovely restaurants, and it is so central to loads of places of interest. Cannot wait to go back : )

"Pleasant stay"

13/10/2016

good size room, very clean & tidy. staff very friendly, always polite and helpful food in the restaurant was nice well presented and always plenty on the plate, I would have given another star except for one silly little but annoying thing. the toaster at breakfast, only heated one side of the bread and was on very low heat had to put each slice through four times on each side to get it brown the wait to use the toaster was so long that a number of people gave up and left.

"A Pleasant Stay"

10/10/2016

I booked a three night stay in the first week of October 2016 with Groupon voucher. Although the terms on the Groupon voucher said that once booked dates cannot be changed, the hotel was very flexible in changing the date of booking. I changed the dates twice without any trouble and free of charge. All hotel staff were very friendly, polite and welcoming. We're given Room 36 which was a few steps away from the main building. The room was really big, clean and nicely decorated with TV. There was a double and a single beds in the room with all other standard furniture with tea/coffee making facilities, and still had plenty of room to move around. The bed was very comfy, providing a good night sleep after a day trip to other places. The bathroom was also big, very nice and clean with a shower like a mini water cannon – superb. Two hotel car parks are available at the back of the hotel free of charge. The restaurant where the daily breakfast was served, was decorated nicely with comfortable dining chairs. In one corner, BF cereals, pastries, juices, fresh fruit salad (not tinned) , yogurt and fresh fruits were kept and the buffet type cooked breakfast was available in the other corner. The swimming pool was just right next to the restaurant and viewable through the window. In addition, specific items can be ordered for breakfast as required. It's clearly visible that the management and other members of staff doing their best to maintain the standard of this hotel and I hope they continue to do so as we'll be returning next year too.

"2nd Visit - certainly did not disappoint"

5
10/10/2016

2nd visit this year. This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. The staff are all trained to a consistently high standard - welcoming, helpful, polite and friendly. The food is also very good with very generous proportions and served with a smile. The bed, breakfast and evening meal deal is excellent value for money. The rooms are clean, spacious and thoughfully laid out with everything you need and more. This time we explored some of the nearby delightful unspoilt coves practically on the doorstep plus Charlestown and Mevagissey. Would definitely go back again.

"A super hotel!"

08/10/2016

my friend and I arrived mid afternoon and checked in! The manager was on reception and was very welcoming. Our room was lovely and light, clean and airy. We unpacked quickly and then had a walk around Lostwithiel. On our return we decided to have a swim in the hotel pool. It was super! We had it to ourselves and it was just beautiful because it was heated! A shower followed and then dinner! That was excellent! Loved every mouthful. After an energetic day, getting into bed was just the job. My bed was warm and comfortable and I had a good night's sleep. Before breakfast we had another swim (fabulous way to start the day). Breakfast provided plenty to choose from and was another satisfying meal which set us up nicely for the day! I'd go again if I could!

Nice hotel, good food, friendly staff, very close to the Eden Project (about 4 miles) although to road off to the Eden Project can easily be missed, quiet a good place to access more well know tourist town such as Bodmin or Padstow by car, there is also a railway station to get you to tourist locations.

"SUPER HOTEL TUCKED AWAY IN THE FOWEY VALLEY - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"

03/10/2016

I have to confess that Lostwithiel was a new name to me. A trip to Cornwall was what we wanted and as Best Western regulars we opted for Lostwithiel. An inspired selection ! First of all we fell in love with the town itself - lovely river walks and a welcoming close knit community. The hotel was tremendous in all respects. Extremely friendly staff, comfortable, well decorated, clean rooms and a comfortable lounge with well stocked bar helped !! Superb breakfast with freshly cooked as-much-as-you-can-eat food both Cornish Full English and continental was on offer. Centrally located for easy access to some of our favourite places - Mevagissey, Charlestown, Port Isaac and Tintagel, I thoroughly recommend you consider this hotel.

"Excellent location and good value"

02/10/2016

Excellent location convenient for north and south coasts as well as only an hour from Penzance in the south. Comfy bed, and good size room. Would give it 5 stars but for the fact that the walls are thin and you can hear people and tv in adjacent room. Will go back though as it is such a convenient place to stay and the staff were very friendly

29/09/2016

Spent five days touring some of the fishing villages of Cornwall and used the Restormel as a base. I had a really nice double aspect bedroom with views across the interesting town. Very clean and well fitted out. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was of a very good standard. Also a very warm outdoor pool. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

"Friendly staff, good food. Warm pool ?"

26/09/2016

This hotel needs an update but it is clean, the staff are very helpful /friendly and the outdoor pool is heated! Very close to Eden and lots of great gardens, plenty to do near by. Overall a good base for a short trip, excellent value for money. Children's menu is fab although the adult meals are a bit pricey.

"Nice Hotel"

4
26/09/2016

We stayed here for four nights in one of the better rooms behind reception. The room was comfortable, light and airy with a king size bed and recently refurbished en-suite. All the staff were very polite and helpful and the food was also excellent and well cooked, we ate in the bar on two occasions and I have to say the fish & chips we had one night was one of the nicest I have eaten. There was only one thing that I had to complain about and that was we were not asked if we would like a suite after our dishes were cleared and the lad serving us disappeared, having said that it would not stop us returning, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

"Stopover en route further south"

4
25/09/2016

Stayed for 2 nights on the way further south. Hotel was very nice, clean and well maintained. Staff friendly and helpful. We had a room in the annexe which was fine, near to the overflow car park so loading/unloading luggage was easy. Comfortable room and very clean bathroom. Breakfast was good, plenty of hot food and pastries and cereals, no complaints! One point though, we went in the bar about 6.15pm for a drink and whilst a pleasant room, it lacked any real ambience, just tv's on the wall dispensing depressing Sky news (don't need that on holiday!), really needs some pleasant background music. A couple of tables had empty glasses and cups on them when we went in and weren't cleared for the time we were there, despite staff walking past! Minor gripe really but meant as constructive criticism. Would happily stay again.

"Convenient for exploring"

4
25/09/2016

We stayed here for a couple of days. Easy to find, loads of parking and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has an unusual layout . We had a room at the back overlooking the carpark. It had been refurbished to a high standard, plenty of room and a spacious bathroom.Good selection at breakfast with plenty of choice, dinner was good too. The only thing was that the adjoining walls are thin, we could hear our neighbours talking, the tv and them snoring and everything things else they got up to ;-) , soundproofing please. We will be returning .

HAd a lovely few days touring around the old haunts. Restormel Lodge was comfy clean and the staff lovely especially the waiting staff. one problem, but put right straight away without hassle. The Chef is great and we had meals at the hotel every evening, well cooked and we enjoyed them. We are just working out when we can visit again but not that room because during the hot spell we were enjoying the room was sooooo..... warm. Cannot win them all I suppose, thank you staff for a lovely few days, the Richards will return. Room 9 nexdt time though please. xxx

"4 day rtrip to visit friends in Lostwithiel"

Very enjoyable and relaxing stay, rooms very clean and staff very friendly. Very nice breakfast. Location excellent for visiting nearby locations such as the Eden Project, Fowey, Mevagissey, Charlestown.

"Pleasant Stopover"

4
19/09/2016

Friendly staff, clean fresh bedroom, plenty of parking, close to centre of Lostwithiel. Car park signs a little confusing as to where car parks were/how to access. Suggest you pick go left or right but not both.

"An ideal hotel for exploring the many attractions and countryside in this beautiful county."

18/09/2016

We requested a room with an walk in shower and this was arranged in a newly refurbished room on the first floor accessed via a short flight of stairs. This was arranged following a telephone conversation with the helpful receptionist made by her to check with us that the room would be satisfactory. It overlooked the garden and car park giving us a quiet stay without traffic noise. The only slight problem was the lack of air conditioning in the room which meant that it became very hot following afternoon sun but this could not be helped without major rebuilding work.

"Lostwithiel Break"

17/09/2016

Good location. Nice rooms, very good food and good parking in a very built up area where parking is at a premium. Helpful friendly staff who always had a smile! My only beef was the becoming increasingly standard firm pillows which were so uncomfortable due to an old neck injury that I didn't sleep well. The moral is to probably take my pillows with me in future. However it did not prevent my enjoyment of my break. The weather was good and everywhere we wanted to go(ieHeligan) etc was a short drive, the local quaint shops were lovely and I would definitely return plus pillows!

"Nice hotel"

4
17/09/2016

Good choice to visit Landhydrock and Heligan. Room good size but bathroom smelt musty. Adequate parking Breakfast Ok , but why serve horrible choice of cheap factory packets of jam and marmalade , for a decent hotel quality, homemade if possible , jam and marmalade are a must. They served cornish butter so why not cornish made preserves and honey? Shame as food otherwise was Ok. And the toaster was a joke, it took 3 runs through it to get bread brown!!

"Good comfortable hotel lacked air conditioning in hot weather enjoyable stay."

16/09/2016

The meals were excellent and the wine list was very acceptable. all were served with politeness , a smile ,and knowledge of the menu. Very nice rooms set in a old Cornish town with plenty of shops and activities to keep you occupied. We would certainly stey there again.

"Lostwithiel stay"

13/09/2016

Just spent 4 days at this hotel. First, it is situated in an ideal spot to visit many of the sites around Cornwall. Secondly the staff are marvellous, from the reception to chef, diningroom staff, and cleaners, nothing was too much trouble and everywhere was clean and well presented. Thirdly the food was wonderful and plenty of it, not only in the restaurant but bar food as well. All in all first rate hotel

This was a late birthday treat for my husband and our 51st wedding anniversary. We hit gold. The hotel is in a very nice setting, our room overlooked the rear garden, it was perfect. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. The food was fantastic, and cooked just as requested, the portions are large so think before ordering more than one course.

"Nice hotel"

10/09/2016

Stayed 3 nights on Groupon Deal. Nice rooms, everything you needed. Lovely comfy beds. All nice and clean. Went to shut window at night and found the hinge was broken, so it was jammed open. Told reception and they had someone look at it next day, but it needed a whole new window, so when we returned we had a big gap at top of window also. We were told it was safe, but it was a shame as it was a little noisey , glad it wasn't a really cold night !! Breakfast was buffet style. Bacon and potato fritters were too hard, but the rest was ok. Lovely sausages, but my husbands had a tiny bone in it. Oh dear. Was dissapointed that pool wasn't open, shut for maintaince. Rooms were on outside of main hotel. Nice and easy from overflow car park into your room, no need to go into hotel at all. Wifi kept going on and off and they give you the wrong wifi info on welcome pac. So I had to go to reception to get it. Was a nice stay apart from the odd probs.

"A Cornish gem."

5
10/09/2016

We postponed our annual leave until the cheaper after school holidays period. I am so glad we did otherwise we might have missed this absolute gem of a hotel. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. On a couple of occasions people were late for breakfast but the chef cooked theirs to order without complaint or bad comment. The toaster is a little quirky, to get really dark toast you have to feed it through 3 times, but this gives you time to converse with fellow guests. The breakfast was buffet style and other items could be ordered without extra charge such as veggie sausages, poached eggs and scrambled eggs. The evening menu had a good range of choices and was well priced. The food was well presented and was tasty. The hotel is clean and well looked after. A really good and relaxing time was had by all. Well done.

We have just spent four days visiting around Cornwall we stayed here it's a Nice clean hotel friendly staff and great food ideal hotel for touring Cornwall we were given an easy access room with walk in shower and large comfortable bed ( unfortunately the swimming pool was out of order ) but would stay here again

"Good value, great location "

Last minute break to Cornwall, brilliant location for Fowey, great beaches 10 minutes away and added bonus a nice heated pool, well maintained, certainly kept the children entertained after a days site seeing! Excellent breakfasts, with good dietary/vegetarian alternatives. Staff really helpful. Highly recommended, would love to come back!

"Small rooms, expensive"

3
31/08/2016

I stayed here for 1 night during a business trip. The room I got was small and the price was very high (121£). I can understand it is high season in August but the price is just to hight for the room you're getting. Nevertheless the rooms were clean and had everything you need.

"Lovely staff, beautiful food"

4
30/08/2016

We stayed at the hotel for the August bank holiday weekend, upon arrival I explained that I was disabled and the receptionist quickly changed my room to a ground floor, walk in shower room without any fuss whatsoever. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night mainly due to convenience as we arrived in Cornwall at 8.20am, we were sooo tired and the food was fab, too much to eat!, On Sunday after a morning at The Eden Project and an afternoon sightseeing we returned to the hotel and had a swim (more like a bob in my case) in the hotel pool which was warm and sheltered. We left after another fab breakfast on Monday and travelled the north Cornish Coast to Padstow, fish and chips at Rick Stein`s. The hotel staff were bright and cheery full of information and wished us well on our departure. Well done to all who made our stay enjoyable.

"A heated outdoor pool!"

22/08/2016

Lovely place, room very quiet, bed very comfortable, staff warm and friendly, breakfast all good quality, a well lit and spacious restaurant, convenient off street parking, look forward to another visit next year. Oh, and a heated outdoor pool of good depth and design, lovely!

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review, with the weather we are currently having our outdoor heated pool is a great asset, open from 7am-10pm!

"Not too bad"

3
22/08/2016

Stayed there for three nights. As we had a dog we were put in the older tired rooms which face onto the car park. They have seen better days. The breakfast actually decent for a buffet style and faces onto the pool. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar is out of a ferry and lacks charm. But as a jumping off point to visit the area it's well worth considering.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Many thanks for your review, we have 6 pet friendly rooms in our courtyard block with direct ground floor access access to our car park and the lovely walks by the river available to you in Lostwithiel, this winter we will look at updating them again, with 36 rooms we always seem to be decorating here! Great to hear you liked our buffet breakfast and we are very lucky to have such great staff, hope to see you again. Simon & the Restormel team

Hotel is very nice, outdoor swimming pool is heated and a really nice bonus, breakfast always being topped up with fresh food which was all very nice, staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful too. Room was a good size and was nicely decorated. We will definitely be back.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Thank you so much for your kind review, we have 6 different room types so pleased to hear you liked yours, and should you return soon always remember to contact us directly for the best price. Our outdoor heated pool is open until Oct half-term then we need to wrap it up for winter, andI will certainly pass on your comments to all my staff, thank you again. Simon & the Restormel team.

"Nice hotel, great hospitality"

17/08/2016

We came on a weekend for one night. We checked in really late, but the reception desk was manned, thankfully. The only gripe was that we had requested a room for our pet dog and we hadn't received a response from them in time before arrival, so we had to arrange things at check in. There was ample parking available, as this hotel has a main car park, and then an overflow one for a total of two parking lots. Staff were very gracious and even provided free milk from their kitchen for a little one, which was very much appreciated. Morning dining staff were great as well. We didn't stay for breakfast, but whilst we were waiting for the morning milk, I observed them to be very professional and quite attentive to the guests that were dining in for the morning brunch. We didn't utilise the outdoor pool that was there, but the water looked to be quite clean and the pool area itself looked to be quite well maintained. A good stay; I would recommend this hotel.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Many thanks for your fabulous review; I am very proud of the Hotel we have and the staff who work hard to achieve everything we offer. Apologies for the confusion if you booked a pet friendly room; we only have 6 and they are always in great demand so its best to reserve one of them direct with us. Simon and the Restormel team.

"No hot water!!!"

16/08/2016

Stayed in a family suite which was fairly cramped and seemed a little damp. We arrived late one evening visited the eden project the very next day before leaving early on the following day. We did not enjoy a hot shower on any of the three occasions we showered and my grandaughter was in tears with the freezing shower one evening. Both hot and cold breakfast was very good and tasty and the breakfast staff very organised. At £10 per head for adults and £5 for children I would have expected it to be. Strangely these prices, however, are only available if you prebook the night before!! Would definitely NOT revisit and suggest when booking that you agree a non payment clause if no hot water. This might get the management to overhaul the boiler etc. The fact that they were fully booked with a great many showering so water had run out is a feeble excuse.

"5 star without a doubt"

This hotel was of a very high standard . The staff were very warm and welcoming , and the service was of high standard . Would definitely recommend this place . The rooms were very clean , and we're supplied with plenty of tea and coffee . Ironing board and hairdryer located in the room .

06/08/2016

The staff were so helpful. On arrival they were fully booked and Simon looked for a place for us in Plymouth. The lady there was kind enough to book us in on internet. We returned the following evening. Such a welcome and so friendly. The room was superb. Bed comfortable and bathroom squeaky clean. The breakfast was a very good buffet and main breakfast was ordered with tea or coffee. How it only got 3 stars is beyond me. Overall the best hotel we stayed in while travelling for 3 weeks. Thank you so much.

"Nice place"

27/07/2016

Stayed for 4 nights as visited a few places around cornwall and also went to eden, the room was fine as was the beds which were comfortable and if needed changed everyday, the bathroom was clean and the shower was very powerful. Tea and coffee and biscuits available and filled everyday so all in worth the money and a stay if your hopping around cornwall. Can't comment on the food as ate out on our travels but did find the staff nice and friendly at all times when spoken too.

"Lovely weekend getaway"

Jane gave us a very nice garden facing room, the property is small but cosy and has some great views. Its in the small village/town of Lostwithiel with a quick access to the highway. Also great for taking walks in the town and around

"Reasonable stay but a few tweaks could make all the difference"

24/07/2016

My Mum, Dad, sister and I Stayed at The Restormel Lodge Hotel a couple of weeks ago for 2 nights while in the area to visit The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan (which are definitely worth a visit). Overall, we enjoyed our stay, the rooms were clean and a reasonable size (if a little too hot), the staff friendly and helpful (they will sort out discounted tickets for The Eden Project and Lost Gardens for you so you don't have to queue when you get there) and the food in the restaurant tasty (although disappointing that their Cornish cheese selection consisted of cheddar and brie as they'd run out of the actual Cornish cheeses!). There are two ways in which this hotel could be improved. The first is that while the rooms are nicely decorated, the corridors outside the bedrooms look a bit tired and don't give the best first impression when you walk in from the car park. The second is that some of the younger staff, while friendly and helpful, lacked initiative and could probably do with more training and direction For example, at breakfast on our first morning most of the hot and cold buffet selection had run out but despite it being quite early in the breakfast sitting the staff didn't replenish it, so in the end we had to ask them to do this. This wouldn't prevent us from returning if we're ever back in the area; however, it would have made our recent stay that bit more enjoyable and enabled us to give it a 4 star rating so management please take note!

"Lovely Stay"

21/07/2016

Stayed for 2 nights. The place looks tired when you first walk in but the bedroom was lovely, airy, fresh, very clean. Complimentary fruits, biscuits, water and "Tassimo" coffee made a great welcome. The restaurant does not have an extensive menu but the food is absolutely fabulous! Very friendly staff. I would highly recommend this place. It is only 10 minutes away from the Eden Project and 30 minutes from the Lost Garden of Heligan.

"A lovely comfortable stay"

17/07/2016

We stayed for 2 nights here after booking last minute to change from a previous hotel which was uninhabitable! We asked for a cot in the room which was provided along with a lovely baby quilt. The hotel was clean and fresh and a breath of fresh air after the previous one. Room was large and clean, excellent standard of housekeeping. Good selection of teas and coffees etc. Breakfast was good, lots of choice and well stocked. Would definitely stay again.

"Tired and dated but good breakfast"

15/07/2016

Stayed here for 2 nights as we travelled down from London to attend a friends wedding. No night manager meant that when we arrived, at midnight, our keys were left at reception in an envelope which is something I've not experienced before. Bedrooms were a good size and ticked all the basics but the lack of any air conditioning meant a very hot and restless nights sleep. Since this room was on the ground floor was not that comfortable with leaving the windows open. However, on plus side, staff were helpful and friendly.

Greeted by a super enthusiastic receptionist. Very, very quiet bar. Watching the Euro final was like being in a library!! Also closes early, around 10.30. Restaurant was great, delicious food & attentive staff. Lots of stairs as our room was in a separate building. Room was very clean & bed comfortable. Shower was really great!! A great base to use for travelling around to other towns & places of interest.

"Brilliant Hotel with Fantastic Staff"

10/07/2016

Stayed for 1 night whilst visiting family and going to the nearby Eden Project (just up the road from this hotel). From check-in to check-out we were very well looked after. Tracey the Front of House Manager was very helpful and friendly at check-in. We booked a dog friendly room and had a lovely surprise when we saw the water and food bowls, dog blanket, treats and doggy bags with a note welcoming our pooch! Never had that in any other hotel. The Deputy General Manager Jane was wonderful, very friendly and approachable and made us feel right at home. We were looked after very well at dinner and breakfast by Lily the Restaurant Supervisor, what a gem she was! Very professional and friendly and always carried a smile on her face. A welcoming face to see in the morning. The food was superb, very well presented and very good value, with plenty of choice. The spicy peanuts on the bar very more-ish. All in all a very good stay, we even used the outdoor pool which was good fun even on a grey english day. We will be back at the next given opportunity, I feel we will become regulars now.

"One night stay, very pleased!"

4
02/07/2016

Firstly I must say the staff were an absolute pleasure, we were greeted at the front desk by the deputy manager and throughout the night she was always on hand for anything. Also the young male member of staff on the bar was very professional and accommodating!! Our room was lovely all be it not newly refurbished, it had everything we needed, the bath was well sized and I didn't feel like a sardine, and a real nice touch was having a fan in the room!! Lastly we set out at 8:45pm to go for some dinner in a nearby restaurant only to be turned away due to them closing at 9, so I phoned the hotel to see if we still had time to eat in the bar, despite the time being 20/30 minutes past food cut off, they still accommodated us and served us a lovely meal, a big thank you to the chef Kieron as the quality was lovely and it wasn't rushed!! Thank you very much for our stay we both enjoyed it a lot!

"Somewhat spoilt by after-stay problems"

3
23/06/2016

My opinion is somewhat soured by events after we left, so may be somewhat biased. The hotel itself has a pleasant outlook at the back over rolling Cornish hills, although it does sit on the main road through the village of Lostwithiel. There are about 20 rooms in the hotel itself with more rooms in an annex. Our room (one double and one single bed) overlooked the car park (enough for about a dozen cars with further space nearby) with views over the Cornish countryside. It was nicely furnished with a desk and lounge chair and an en-suite bathroom with integral shower. Unfortunately there were a couple of problems. A mysterious clicking noise throughout the night turned out to be the central heating system fighting against the turned-off radiator. The other problem was the wafer-like thickness of the dividing walls so that we were distracted by the couple in the next room talking as well as from the banging of room doors, especially in the early morning when the “business” customers left the hotel. The breakfast (buffet) was, however, very good with lots of both hot and cold food and a coffee machine for the “efficiados”, all overlooking the (small) outdoor pool and lounging area. We did not sample either the bar or the restaurant. Checking in was effortless although the (single) receptionist had to be summoned with a bell, which fact later proved to be an irritation when we had to wait over 10 minutes to collect our room key while a booking was taken over the ‘phone. The main problem occurred after we left when we discovered that we had left a cable in the room. A ‘phone call resulted in it “being found” but we were told that there would be a charge of £5 for its return, which, upon reflection was pretty petty for an international hotel chain (it transpired that this hotel is run as a franchise, which was a surprise, but might account for the penny-pinching attitude). In the event, the cable that was sent was not ours, so it could not have “been found” in our room at all and it wasn't until I complained that we had paid for something that we didn't want that our £5 was returned. All in all then, if you are looking for a B&B is this better than a farmhouse-type one and, if so, does it tick all the boxes you would expect if you plumped for a reliable large hotel? That's not for me to answer, but, at least I hope this will give you an idea of what you can expect here.

"Clean, quiet and nice food!"

3
22/06/2016

Room has all what you would want, fan, hairdryer, koffie-thea maker, alarmclock. We where in room 33 not connected to the Hotel itself. Breakfast is buffet and lovely! Lostwhiel is a tiny town, no busses, but a trainstation. No tourist info office! You have to ask at the hoteldesk, for all the info. I spoke to a lady in the pool and she said it was a great temperture.

"Short break"

4
19/06/2016

Booked a superior double. This did not disappoint room was lovely and bed was comfortable. Only thing missing was air conditioning (there was a fan which we used). Ate our evening meal the first night that was not good and other diners also complained. One man sent his back 3 times. The lady that booked us in was very helpful with tickets to the Eden project.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review, room 9 is a lovely big superior double which we have recently decorated. Admittedly we don't have air conditioning, being a Hotel in Cornwall its very rare (unfortunately for us) to warrant installing it at the cost it would be. I'm sorry to hear your experience with our evening meal wasn't upto your's (or my) standards, naturally I will be discussing this with our chefs. Pleased to hear you experienced Eden, such a fabulous place on our doorstep. Thanks again, Simon & the Restormel team

"Friendly, clean and fine hotel - I would stay again."

16/06/2016

When I first saw the picture of the front of the hotel, I will admit I wasn't sure. However, the friendly greeting at reception, the cleanliness and comfort of the room as well as the good restaurant soon put my concerns to rest.

Great family Hotel. Very good atmosphere, welcoming and great value for money. The rooms are well presented and very comfortable. The location is great for a quiet stay or as a base for Cornwall's many great attractions. Highly recommended

"Superb value for families."

07/06/2016

Having booked a family room with bunk beds I was pleasantly surprised to find the bunk beds in a separate, adjoined room, rather than squeezed into the main room as expected. This allowed a bit of space for both my boys and me! This was greatly appreciated. The room was clean and tastefully decorated, as was the bathroom - with added benefit of a nice powerful shower. This was a super find to act as a base to explore this part of cornwall, with the Eden Project and Newquay in easy reach as well as the beaches around St Austell Bay.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Great to hear you like our Family Bunk rooms, we have 2 of them that have separate rooms for your children, which have both been redecorated this year also! Did you use our pool, at 32 degrees its a great place to relax after a long day in Cornwall? Hope to see you again, Simon & the Restormel Team.

Hotel clean beds comfortable..nothing supplied for dogs ....think £12 per night for a dog you that you wouldnt know had been in room was too much.Other Cornish hotel that we stay in supplies blanket ..poo bags ..treats..and food from.kitchen if required.Breakfast not up to much.. 2 ply paper serviettes... were a bit if an insult. Confusion over payment that was taken early by a company called AMERISUITS who we had No Idea who.they were.Overall Nice Hotel ... but not Very Good Value at over £200 for 2 nights! Might stay again not sure.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Thanks you for your response, my housekeeping team are currently looking into providing a doggy or even pet pack for when guests book in the future, the charge was primarily for covering the cost of the extra cleaning involved, and sometimes damage from other pets, but again thank you for your feedback. I hope next time you stay you receive a Pet Welcome Pack! I do believe we had also ran out of our better quality Best Western napkins, they're in stock now. Please book direct should you return so we can offer you a more competitive rate. Simon & the Restormel Team

"A visit to test out their carvery, we live locally so do not actually stay here."

4
22/05/2016

Having been given vouchers for free carvery meals we visited to investigate. The carvery was excellent with several different meats and lots of vegetables. We were servred good size portions of the meats and were asked if we wanted anymore, the veg was self service so the portion sizes were only limited by the size of the plate. We will return.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind review, our new Carvery on a Sunday has been ever so popular, I'm very fortunate to have some great Chefs & Restaurant staff here, with ever changing menus i do hope you come back and visit us again, remember we are open every evening for Dinner from 6pm, our Summer Menu is on our website! "3 Night stay to visit Cornwall"

4
21/05/2016

Pleasant comfortable hotel spread across 3 sites. Having brought our dog were allocated a large ground floor family room situated conveniently next to one of the car parks. Food was quite good, although portion sizes were overly generous (for us). The deal we obtained for early May was £150 per night B B & Evening meal which was good value. (Internet good, although failed in our room on third day)

"Very good choice!"

16/05/2016

We stayed here for five nights using Lostwithiel as a base to explore Cornwall. The hotel is close to the main routes so traveling around is relatively easy. Lostwithiel is on the railway network if public transport is required. Our room, recently refurbished, was superb. We had booked a deluxe double and this was situated at the rear of the hotel overlooking the garden and upper car park. The room had all the usual "extras" but there was also a coffee making machine, daily fresh fruit and a welcome bag of the chefs home made fudge....delicious! The hotel does have an outdoor swimming pool and a well stocked bar. Breakfast was buffet style and provided more or less everything you might want. The food wasn't cooked to order except on our last morning when there were few guests in residence. We ate at the hotel on some evenings and our only criticism was that the lasagne wasn't particularly tasty and was very dry. However, we were well satisfied with our other choices. Service was generally very good and whilst we don't usually single out individuals ( as there are unseen staff ), we have to say that Jenna( hope her name is spelt correctly!) was particularly helpful. There were absolutely no problems with housekeeping and check in/check out was quick and efficient. Within the hotel is a plentiful supply of information leaflets for Cornwall's many attractions. We would certainly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here on a short break to visit this area of Cornwall and very much enjoyed the stay and also the quaint town of Lostwithiel which really seems to consist of one high road and one or two roads leading from the high road. Well worth a walk round as has some nice shops and pubs and the area by the river is scenic for a built environment. The staff at the hotel were friendly and efficient and we enjoyed the bar food selection and breakfasts.

"Fantastic in every way!"

We booked the hotel as we wanted to visit the Eden Project. As a base for there and for the area around St Austal, this hotel is perfect. It is in the process of being refreshed and the owners are obviously investing a great deal to enhance what is already a very comfortable hotel. Breakfast is a full breakfast (as opposed to the limited hot buffet offered by other hotels) with local produce and great flavours. Evening meals are also good value. But better than all of this is the service. Friendly, helpful and always smiling, they went out of their way to assist, even calling up staff who were off shift to help us locate a pregnancy pillow we had lost. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Thank you! Ben

We booked this hotel as it was central to attractions, as it turned out it was the best choice, the rooms are at the back of the hotel and therefore very quiet, the place had just been refurbished so very nice bathroom and bedroom. Breakfast very nice even though a buffet style all food was freshly cooked and topped up. Staff all very helpful and polite, we would certainly use this hotel again.

Good stay, excellent service, had good welcome at reception, good room, excellent supper and comfy bed. Didn't try the pool a little cold. Breakfast was good with excellent service. Overall a good stay I would recommend to anyone else to stay right in the middle of Lostwithiel

"Good nights stay"

27/04/2016

Stayed for one night having driven from Warrington - very welcoming, good dinner , excellent sleep, good breakfast plenty of parking space. Clean and tidy - had a swimming pool but didn't have the opportunity to use it as the weather was very cold

"Lovely stay and excellent restaurant"

25/04/2016

This is our fourth stay here - we like it both because of the location and because we can bring our dogs. The dog rooms are a decent size and right next to the car park. Internet speed is good and there is a good sized desk to work on. The breakfast was very nice with a variety of buffet and cooked to order choices. It was nice to be able to have salmon. Dinner was particularly nice - both evenings we had excellent food and it arrived quickly and was a good price. Service was at all times pleasant and professional.

"Retirement do"

25/04/2016

Went her for my dads retirement do which had seated over 32 people. The staff were very helpful and well presented. The food was good and had lots of flavour. The table was well laid and everyone felt relaxed and not pushed by the staff to leave.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review, we love holding all different kinds of functions here and it was a pleasure holding your dads retirement dinner and welcoming our local Fire Station, it gives our restaurant staff and chefs time to show their experience and skills; we hope we see you all again soon. Excellent hotel for break in Cornwall. Central to all of county. April good time to go as all the gardens are full of magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons. Would recommend it and we will certainly visit the hotel in the future.

We were on a coach holiday so didn't choose this hotel ourselves, but were very pleased when we were shown our room, it was spotless and very well equipped. The service at meal times was quite slow, but the staff were very pleasant. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Thank you for your review, so pleased to read you found our rooms spotless! Some nights in the Restaurant we are challenged to be fair, especially when we have a group with us, producing 48 meals in one go can be hard on the chefs & restaurant staff, but I do hope they looked after you well. Beautiful meal cooked by the chefs, Kieran and Arron and served by amazing attentive waiting and bar staff!! My friend is a vegetarian and talking to the staff they managed to make her an amazing pasta dish to which she loved!!! Would highly recommend to a friend!!

"Excellent hotel"

15/04/2016

We only stayed one night, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rooms and ensuites. We stayed in the Delux Double and it was to an excellent standard with comfortable kingsize bed, large flatscreen TV, well stocked tea tray, fruit, mineral water, fruit juice and bathrobe and slippers. The ensuite had obviously been recently done to a very high standard and spotlessly clean throughout the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and we had a very good breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay again if in the area and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Many thanks for your kind review, we have 6 newly refurbished Deluxe rooms now with gorgeous bathrooms, and we are very proud our of housekeeping team who keep them in such great order for you! With the Eden Project only 10 minutes away we are a very popular Hotel with their visitors; great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, and a good breakfast sets you up ready for the day! Many thanks, Simon & the Restormel Team.

We had a lovely stay at The Restormel Lodge for a few days the week after Easter We had such a friendly welcome from the receptionist on our arrival. We were very pleased with our room bright and airy over looking the garden/car park at the back of the hotel. Breakfast was delicious and varied once again friendly helpful staff. We would have no hesitation in recommending and certainly hope to stay again - Thank you

"Value for Money"

05/04/2016

A good value for money hotel, clean and tidy, nice breakfast included too. Pet friendly, a good location to pop off to The Eden Project. A nice little town with plenty of places for food etc.including a nice fish and chip shop.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely comments, we have 6 pet friendly rooms in our Courtyard block, and as you mentioned the amazing Eden Project is only 10 minutes away! We are so lucky to be in the middle of Lostwithiel, a medieval town which is very pretty, and yes our Fish & Chip shop is good too, although my chefs would love for you to dine with us also next time you visit :). "Hotel in Lostwithiel"

5
05/04/2016

We stayed for 3 nights. The hotel was very clean and our room was well maintained. We had a meal one evening and it was too much for us to eat. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The only thing that let the hotel down was our room wasn't done on one day

"Very comfortable and convenient hotel"

5
05/04/2016

We stay at this hotel regularly as it is convenient for visits to our family living nearby, we could stay in other convenient locations in Lostwithiel, so why stay at the Restormel? Well we are always assured of a friendly welcome, a clean, warm and comfortable room and a hearty breakfast if we so choose. The outdoor swimming pool is useful when the weather is warm and the garden at the back has a lovely view over Lostwithiel. The lounge is comfortable and has a bar. Lostwithiel is a really interesting historical town and is well placed for visits to other parts of Cornwall.

We found the Restormel Lodge very convenient for the weekend conference we had to attend. The service in reception and the restaurant was very welcoming and helpful. And the bed was particularly good -- very comfortable. We will stay here again in the future.

"Looks can be deceiving"

4
03/04/2016

From the outside this hotel looks a bit run down, but actually looks can be deceiving. I stayed for two nights in a double "Deluxe" booking directly on the Best Western website which was offering the top of the range room for the same money as a basic single. The room was very nice, with a spotlessly clean modern bathroom, Freeview HD television, and the usual tea/coffee and in addition a can of Tango and some fruit. Deluxe? well it felt appointed and clean, and comfortable all until you wanted to sleep - the mattress was particularly soggy which meant you felt like you were sleeping on a slope. Being on my own, I slept in the centre which wasn't worn out and hence didn't end up feeling like I was falling out of bed. You could actually see the dips in the mattress. It's worth mentioning that the hot water supply was rather brown in colour from the local water supply, nothing too unusual for the area but filling the bath with a brown soupy liquid for a bath is rather off putting. Breakfast was excellent, all well cooked and the coffee bought to the table was delicious. The hotel has a very small outdoor swimming pool, and an Electric Car charging point. Overall for the price I paid it wasn't bad just shame I didn't sleep very well from the mattress.

"Excellent medium sized hotel in a nice location. We enjoyed our stay there"

03/04/2016

We enjoyed staying at this at this hotel, for one night, on the Tuesday after Easter. The Hotel is conveniently located within the picturesque town of Lostwithiel, some of Cornwalls' major attractions are close by. Car parking is plentiful with an overflow car park close by. Checking in, & out, was completed with the minimum of fuss, all the hotel staff were found to be friendly & helpful. Our room (suite) was large, comfortable, quiet, spotlessly clean and modern, as was the bathroom. Restaurant & bar service was excellent, the food, both dinner & the breakfast buffet was good, with local produce, where possible, being used. We stay in many hotels every year, the Restormel Lodge is highly recommended.

"Family trip"

02/04/2016

Stayed at the hotel one night, the room was nice and clean although a little noisy as probably somebody on another room forgot the telly on all night and plus there was a weird noise like a ticking or pounding but I couldn't understand what it was, however nothing major. Lostwithiel is a nice place but not to spend long. Breakfast could be better but did the job. would stay again if passing by.

"Excellent"

28/03/2016

Stayed here for easter Bank holiday, even took the dog. Excellent facilities and location in a nice little town. The reception staff are very nice and the room was very clean and modern. No faults at all will be back in the summer.

"Excellent food and brilliant location for exploring the area."

5
23/03/2016

Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent value for money - we had breakfast and dinner included with no restrictions on choice. Our rooms were all very clean and comfortable. Well laid out with everything you need. The location of this hotel is excellent for exploring with many attractions on the doorstep - Lanhydrock, Fowey, Heligan, Eden Project and Lostwithiel itself is a delight. Thank you.

"Fine for what we were looking for."

4
18/03/2016

We were looking for a reasonable price hotel to stay to see the Eden Projetc. They were flexible with the bookingwhen we suddenly had to change week. Hotel clean and comfy. No problems at all. Handly location to explore. Pubs and restirants in town gave reasonable choice. Would stay again if needed hotel in that area.

"Nice Hotel - Bit Out Of The Way"

4
16/03/2016

This is a pleasant enough hotel with LOVELY STAFF but a slightly tired décor. It is a bot "Off the beaten track" but it would be handy for the EDEN PROJECT. It is, for the standard of hotel, reasonably priced.

"Outstandingly good food and venue"

5
09/03/2016

Don't let the outside appearance deter you from experiencing what we can honestly say has been the best meal we've had in the area for a long time. Can not fault any part of our experience. Staff, excellent, food excellent, surroundings excellent , value for money

"Fab carvery"

06/03/2016

Visited for the first time & enjoyed a very pleasant carvery with 3 courses & a glass of wine as part of a Groupon deal. Staff are very helpful & friendly, special mention to Aaron the carvery chef who was particularly helpful. A nice hotel with good food.

28/02/2016

Nice hotel in a nice location with plenty of parking. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Arrived late in the evening and the check in was speedy. Ate in the restaurant food was ok but I felt it was a little over priced. Wanted to do some work but struggled with the Wifi. The room was nice and I would stay here again but would most probably eat elsewhere.

"An excellent hotel"

26/02/2016

I have been having to go to Bodmin of and on for business for over 2 years now and always stay at this hotel. Even though my client has moved location to further away, I still stay here due to the excellent facilities, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. As a woman travelling for business on her own, it is important to me to feel 'comfortable' in any hotel I stay in (and I stay in a lot!) and would always recommend Restormel Lodge to anyone

Many thanks for your kind review, its great to see and meet regular guests, hopefully this allows us to give you a more personal experience when your away from home! Thanks again, Simon & the Team

"Not bad, but not great"

25/02/2016

We stayed here for two nights in February 2016. At this time the hotel was advertised as having been refurbished recently. The room was clean and felt newly done, but the rest of the hotel seemed dated, We understand it is an older building and there is only so much you can do, but it had a very "80's" feel to it, it reminded me of Holiday Inn's 30 years ago, and not the best ones either. We did not eat dinner in the hotel, if breakfast was an indication of meals then we are glad we didn't. The breakfast portions were the smallest I have had in recent years, especially the eggs, (they must have very small hens in Cornwall) but despite the size the quality of produce was really good. The hotel was quiet due to the time of the year, but that is no excuse for a hotel to re-hash the breakfast pastries....lovely and fresh on the Saturday morning with a full tray, but a bit stale on the Sunday with whatever was left over from the day before, would that be an indication of dinner?? All in all this hotel is a place to sleep, not a place to "experience".

"Excellent Stay"

5
24/02/2016

I stay at the Great Western hotels quite regularly for business purposes I always find the staff very helpful smart and professional The food is always of a very good standard and I have never felt the need to complain about anything The rooms are always clean and tidy and I also enjoy a restful nights sleep There is always a good choice on the breakfast menu and you can have as much as you want the staff seem to be very helpful and will be flexible if you need to eat before the actual times I would have no hesitation at recommending Great Western Hotels

"Great Value and Service"

5
24/02/2016

Excellent 2 night stay - very comfy king size bed, attentive staff, new bathroom and very clean room. Good breakfast. Hotel is on a main road so we were glad to have requested a room at the rear. Just a 2 minute walk from pubs and restaurants in Lostwithiel itself.

A very good stay at a lovely pleasant hotel. Thank you for a nice time. Staff were attentive and helpful. Lovely room. Breakfast was nice and flavoursome. The continental side could have had a little more selection with maybe some croissants.

"Our First Visit to their Restaurant, did not stay as live locally"

20/02/2016

We saw their Restaurant featured on Pirate FM Voucher Shop and bought £50 voucher for £25. We were very impressed by the high quality of food and service offered.. My wife has gluten and dairy allergies and the Chef contacted us to discuss her need and what they could offer and when we visited she was catered for very well. We will return again soon

My wife and I were totally blown away by the value of this winter stay at this superb friendly hotel while travelling to West Cornwall. In short we received a very warm welcome which continued throughout our short stay. Our room was very comfortable and the dining in experience was most enjoyable. Thanks to Jane and the team, think we will be back next year maybe for a little longer.

I needed to visit Bodmin. I was looking for an Hotel in a quiet location. This hotel fitted the bill. It is located a bit out of the way, and that suited me fine. My room was excellent and the facilities were excellent. Next time I'm in that area, I will definitely go there.

"Brightening up a rainy January"

5
01/02/2016

Our generous student daughter bought us a Groupon voucher for a night's bed and breakfast and we added a second night. We had a really comfy and enjoyable weekend stay. Our room was lovely with a huge bed, TV, tea and fresh coffee making facilities and nice extras like shortbread, fruit, 7Up and bottled water. The en suite bathroom was fresh and beautifully done out and we had nice toiletries provided. Wifi was pretty stable. There was a hairdryer, iron and board...everything we needed for a comfort stay was there. Staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfasts generous and we ate in the restaurant both nights and had lovely meals..the scallop starter was a bit pricey for the amount served but the quality was excellent, other courses very nicely cooked and, overall, prices were fairly average. Lostwithiel is a pretty town, quiet in January as you might expect, but a good base for visiting the Eden Project, which we enjoyed, and other very lovely little Cornish fishing ports . We would definitely use the hotel again.

Simon B, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Restormel Lodge, responded to this review
Dear CardiffColeen, Thank you so much for such a wonderful review! I will pass your kind comments onto the rest of the team. Unfortunately I can't change the weather but I'm glad everything at the hotel brightened up your stay! I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay in one of our recently refurbished Deluxe Rooms, and that all the added extras made your stay that little bit better. We are very fortunate with the local area and next time you visit I hope the sun shines! Thanks again, Simon and the Team.

01/02/2016

We could not fault this hotel the staff were very helpfull and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.We looked on line was confused by the different prices so we phoned direct and had a much better deal than if we had booked through various internet booking sites. So in future when we use this hotel it will be a direct booking

"Friendly staff and good service"

31/01/2016

We recently stayed at the Great western hotel for a local night away, we were greeted by friendly reception staff and quickly checked in. Our room was clean and spacious with tea and coffee. We decided to eat in the hotel as it was easier and we were not disappointed. The young man behind the bar was polite and helpful, we were served promptly and the food was excellent. Very well presented food and tasted lovely. The hotel itself could do with some work done on it as the roof was leaking in the restaurant and by reception but this did not put us off. Breakfast again was lovely and service prompt. We would definitely return.

"Travelling with a wheelchair"

An excellent hotel with friendly helpful staff Rooms comfortable and warm and standard of cleanliness excellent. Very quiet room and we both slept longer than usual. Breakfast excellent and being more a fish eater I enjoyed the smoked haddock which was cooked well. My husband ate the full English and again this was excellent. We enjoyed the evening meals in the restaurant and one in the bar area.

"Christmas Lunch"

5
02/01/2016

Christmas lunch in a hotel can be a lottery. However we struck gold. Excellent lunch. Great service. Relaxing surroundings. Excellent value for money. As a bonus we were even given free Sunday Carvery vouchers to be used at any time through the year. We will be back.

"Has a nice reticent feel to it."

5
01/01/2016

I stayed here with my family for a night while we where travelling and i felt welcome before we even reached the reception desk. The staff where perfect. The barman was very kind and friendly he even brought over the tv remote for us in the sitting area. Obviously he must have sensed that we couldn't take anymore East 17 Christmas songs on music channel. Although it is a Best Western and because of that you might think of the hotel as well... owned by a big company with a massive chain of hotels so everything will be standard issue and have a clone sort of repetitive feel to it. However that was not the case at all. It was very unique, the Christmas decorations where beautiful and it had a very family owned and orientated feel to it while keeping a modest cosy vibe. The room was spotless. My sincerest thank's to the cleaners, receptionist's, barman and the manager for keeping very high standards.

"It has it all!"

This is a clean, comfortable and well-run hotel with very pleasant, attentive staff. There is ample parking space and good disabled access. Breakfasts are excellent and the dinners are well-cooked and presented, though there are too few choices on the winter menu. Drinks are pricey, and the wine list requires uprating.

This is a nice hotel, clean and well maintained. The staff a friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good with lots of choice, but the evening meal has a limited choice and can be a bit pricey. Room 29 was clean and comfortable but being at the front of the hotel at the bottom of the extremely steep hill we had to suffer all traffic noise. Obviously being a Best Western Hotels member didn't make any difference to choice of rooms for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Next time we visit we will ask for a better room at the rear of the hotel

"Good hotel for exploring the area"

We came back here after excellent stay last year to explore the areas we missed, unfortunately standards had slipped. We booked a superior room, which had large King size bed, fantastic walk in wet room, fantastic power shower and good quality toiletries, room excellent. We booked a meal in the restaurant on our first night, we had a drink in the bar before dinner, where the service was awful, barman preferred to talk to others than serve. We then ordered wine with the meal, and the bottle was just plonked on table with screw cap on, not what you would expect in a hotel like this. We both ordered the breast of duck which was very tough. Breakfast was buffet style but our cooked was lukewarm. Hotel is right in town so there are plenty of other places to eat and drink if you prefer. Also good walks around the area from the hotel. Wi-fi was very good !

"wedding party"

Last year we were in Cornwall looking for a hotel that could hold a wedding reception for us as we had decided to get married at Carnglaze Caverns This was the 3rd hotel on our list and we thought it would turn out to be out of our price range. However we arranged to meet the manager Simon on one of our visits to Cornwall and we explained what we were looking for. He showed us around the hotel and we were impressed with the look of the rooms and of the hotel in general. The staff were all kind and extremely helpful. After doing some sums Simon came back to us with a really good price for a 2 night stay with breakfast on the wedding morning, a wedding reception dinner and a wedding breakfast on the morning after. From the point we said yes to him until we left after the actual event the hotel bent over backwards to help in any way possible. We are not local to the hotel and would be traveling from Hampshire so everything was done via phone calls, e-mail and the odd visit when we were down to sort other parts of the wedding out. We had 35 people to our reception, in 15 rooms. When we asked about menu choices Simon told us that it was our day and that we could have whatever we wanted. He asked us to pick 3 starters, mains and deserts and then let him know what we wanted. He then made up a menu for us and sent it via e-mail for our approval. He also offered to find wedding car hire, flowers and anything else we may require. The hotel was always on the end of the phone and sorted out any problems the moment they came up so that by the time we all started to arrive for the actual event everything was ready. He had even gone as far as letting other guest know that the main dining room would be closed for a private function on the wedding night so that we could have it to ourselves. (meals were still available in the bar area for other guests) This was something we had not asked for but shows the level of thought that had gone into it on the hotels part. All of our rooms were immaculate and the suite we had was big enough for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready in. They have family rooms as well for those with children and rooms that allow you to bring your dogs. We had the wedding dinner table laid out the way we wanted and the food cooked on the night was first class. We were given a complementary bottle of champagne at the table and some of the little extras that were done to the food to make it extra special were fantastic. When it came to checkout we did have a small issue with the bill, where we had paid for the rooms in a room by room basis there had been a slight muddle up with the 2 rooms left to pay. However this was soon sorted out and the mistake was quickly found. To me the way a problem is handled is just as important as when everything goes right. All in all i cannot fault this hotel, or its staff. From the lady that cleaned our room, all the way to the manager himself. I wish more businesses were run this way and i cannot thank them enough for making our stay, and our wedding the perfect event it was. Thank you.. Simon & Lesley

A quirky hotel a lot bigger than it looks. Friendly, clean with good food . Hard working helpful staff,. The village is beautiful and the hotel is in a good place for you to get on the road to St Austell.

This hotel is located in the charming village of Lostwithiel. I recommend the overflow car park which is easier to get in and out of than the main car park. We were struck be the friendly service at all times. Some of the corridors could do with sprucing up, but our room was faultless and the bathroom exceeded expectations by a long way! The hotel bar is an interesting shape and the restaurant pleasant.

Just had a weeks holiday in Cornwall and stayed at the Best Western Restormel Hotel located in the town of Lostwithiel. The hotel is ideally situated for touring around Cornwall being located on the A390 with the Eden project and Lanyhydrock only being a couple of miles away. The town is steeped in history and has a museum and castle to visit. We stayed in room 37 in an annex away from the main hotel building it was very quite, was comfortable and had everything we needed. The restaurant food was of good quality well cooked and nicely presented. Staff were friendly and tried to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. If I return to Cornwall I would stay at this hotel again.

Best Western was fine for a single night. Clean and comfortable. Didn't get chance to use the facilities but the staff were very helpful. Well worth a visit. Single rooms are tiny! Good car park at the back of the hotel and free wifi throughout the hotel. Very quiet and good location for exploring local area.

A bit tired this hotel.. Having used Best Western many times this one is better than it looks! Ideal for Eden project and surrounding area Don't use the bar as it is expensive, use the really nice pub down the road(mentioned to staff) Do pre book the restaurant as it is really good value and much cheaper!
