Best Western Fowey Valley

We've stayed at the Fowey Valley (or Restormel Lodge as it used to be) 4 or 5 times since 2014 so feel reasonably qualified to give a dispassionate review. This year (2026) we were allocated a room (6), which coincidentally we had stayed in during an earlier visit, though now it was called a 'deluxe' room and claimed to offer a few extra niceties. Way back in 2014 the hotel was a real find... it was clean and spacious, had ample parking and boasted very friendly staff and a great breakfast selection... hence why we've returned every couple of years. Unfortunately, apart from some refurbishment and repainting somewhere around 2015/16 it appears that very little capital has been invested since. A large tree was removed in 2015 which allowed the garden to be landscaped with tables and chairs and later some car charging points were added to the top car park. But inside... well we've noticed a slow and inevitable gradual decline and it's now all a bit tired and a bit grubby - it needs a coat of paint and a damn good clean. Staffing levels seem to have reduced to skeleton levels. Restaurant/breakfast staff seemed stressed when it got busy and a ‘chef' was not available for 3 of our days, so hot breakfast was buffet style only. As for our 'deluxe' room: well there was only one major flaw with it (the mattress) but there were lots of minor niggles which smacked of a total lack of attention to detail and raised our dissatisfaction levels: the carpet was stained, the headboard was torn and scratched, the duvet cover displayed some holes, one of the pillow cases was stained with mould spots and another had a brown 'smear' that could have been ear wax! The right-hand window mechanism was broken, so the 'shoot bolt' at the bottom failed to withdraw and would not unlock, and when we finally managed to rattle the window open the spring loaded latching hook mechanism was broken. In the bathroom there was no seal on the bottom of the bath/shower screen, the bath panel surround was split, broken and discoloured, and whist secure it looked most unattractive. The toilet roll holder was also hanging on to the wall by a thread and a prayer. Of the promised and published extra niceties: Only 1 bathrobe was supplied, no bluetooth music device existed, the freeview TV certainly wasn't 43" and had the most bizarre channel arrangement imaginable, and no soft drinks or fresh fruit were included. Oh, and what the heck are premium biscuits? We never saw any that would fit that description, just standard airline Biscoffs! And the mattress? Quite simply the lumpiest, noisiest and most uncomfortable 'thing' we've slept on. To get this bad it must have been on it's last legs the previous year, so not replacing it is inexcusable. Will we return again? Unlikely. Whist the location is great for exploring Cornwall, there are many more hotels and B&B's which offer a cleaner environment and a more comfortable bed!

There are two car parks, upper and lower, best accessed by the appropriate roads on either side of the hotel. There are no dedicated disabled spaces. There are two electric charging points in the upper car park. The signs in the carparks are confusing. They do not make it clear that parking for residents is free as it is for restaurant guests. You do need to register your car at Reception on arrival. All the staff are pleasant and helpful. The hotel is spread over three floors. There are plenty of stairs most with railings at irregular heights. There is not a lift. This hotel is really not suitable for disabled people. My wife, on crutches, found accessing the hotel a perpetual trial. Even with a fan in our room and two windows which opened we found the room rather claustrophobic, this was early September. The carpet was grubby and there were items which required maintenance e.g. a handle hanging by one screw to a drawer. If you want your room serviced daily you must ask. There was not a ‘dangler' in our room to indicated preferences. The slightly heated pool is a fair size to enable a few strokes; it is 1.1 m deep. It does need attention. There are a large number of missing tiles, the entry gates are inadequate and falling apart. Some of the sun loungers were broken, there were not any mattresses. Although there is a cover intended to be unrolled across the pool when not in use to keep the heat in it was left rolled upon its roller-frame throughout our week – it did not move. Breakfast was a pleasure. Plenty of choices and much of the cooked was freshly prepared to order. The only exception was the full English which was buffet service when the hotel had over thirty guests taking breakfast. To be offered smoked haddock these day is a rare treat. The restaurant is now open in the evenings for dinner. We used it twice; we were somewhat disappointed. It is not appropriate to bring in your own wine now. There is no provision for ‘corkage'. There is not alcoholic drinks service at the dining tables, but the bar now serves alcoholic beverages. They can be purchased there and consumed at the dining tables – it works after a fashion.

This dog friendly hotel often has 3 for 2 nights currently running until December 2026 so check before booking. We stayed for 6 nights (paying for 4) and breakfast was included in our rate, but it certainly isn't worth paying £17 for cooked breakfast which now includes pork sausages, bacon and undercooked tomatoes but low quality bread for toasting and £10 for continental. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the evening menu was quite limited. There is a Chinese and 2 Indian restaurants as well as 3 pubs serving food all within 5 minutes walk, so plenty of choice. Our room was clean and tidy although a shower cubicle would have been preferable to a bath with a shower attachment. This is a good, clean inexpensive central Cornwall choice hotel to visit both North and South Cornwall and if we visited Cornwall again we would certainly come here again.

We stayed at the hotel for four nights. Our room was tired looking and our bedding had old tea and coffee stains on it. The sink in the bathroom was also blocked. The staff responded and replaced the bedding. The pool was warm, however there were missing tiles which need replacing. The breakfast was of a very good standard. The evening meal menu was limited. While the helpful staff were polite and accommodating we had the feeling there were not enough of them. They were therefore working extra hard under pressure. Overall I would say this hotel has the potential to be better. It is in a good location, but would benefit from some TLC.

We a family of 4 in the family room stayed here for 2 nights first week in Aug. The positives are few but the reception staff were helpful and polite and checked us in quickly. I stay at BW hotels very often with work and the bed was tired,soft,uncomfortable, and the headboard full of fingernail marks. without question the worst bed I have stayed in for many years. The outdoor pool whilst a nice feature of the hotel,was tired, lots of repair marks in it, and broken sun beds around it. The whole hotel looks dated and tired and required significant money spent on it to bring it up to the standards of other Westtern hotels. Regrettably I would not recommend nor stay at this particular hotel again. Not the standard that yiu would expect from Bw.

We arrived, chap in reception was very helpful, friendly, had a swim in the lovely tropical pool, lovely warm water, had hunters chicken menu, really lovely, very accomodating staff, fab comfy beds great room, like to do 2 nights here next time as it was so fab !

Perfect Hotel. Great staff .Good value

Loved the location as it's a beautiful wee old town near the river and really central for travel and sightseeing. Very friendly and helpful and welcoming staff- very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with a good ensuite and shower - could benefit perhaps from a small fridge. Very good value. Everywhere was clean and well looked after. Quiet and respectful- no intrusion of noise. Very good service and lovely outdoor pool area which was really relaxing and enjoyable. This was our second visit and hope to return soon! Many thanks to the owner and staff for making our holiday so special and enjoyable. Can thoroughly recommend!😊

Stayed for 4 nights while visiting family. We had a “courtyard” room which was clean & comfortable, but on arrival we found that the TV & heated towel rail did not work. We reported both issues & the man at reception gave us new batteries for the TV remote, which didn't help. He then came to the room to see for himself that neither TV or towel rail was working. He was friendly & apologetic but said there were no maintenance staff working over the weekend. The next day we were moved to the room next door. Once again clean & comfortable but although this TV did work, the towel rail did not. Reported again, apologies but no solution. On the Monday we were asked if maintenance could take a look but nothing changed. This might sound petty but it was impossible to get our towels dry, & constantly having them damp wasn't ideal. The staff were friendly enough. Breakfast was good, with a reasonable choice available, But we had inadvertently booked room only, which meant that every day we had to go to reception to get a voucher to hand to the waitress in the next room to be able to get our breakfast. This seemed a bit of a rigmarole. Surely there must be a simpler way. All in all our stay was ok. Nice enough but not outstanding because of the little niggles. A real shame

The accomodation was clean, modern, doggy friendly (not that we had a dog) with all the expected facilities. The TV never worked properly. We did report it in the April visit but it's still not fixed as we had the same room. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly & helpful. The restaurant, although not available for evening meals even though it is advertised as such, served a very diverse breakfast menu that I would consider one of the best I've ever experienced in all my many years of travel. The hotel did offer light bites in the evening but we passed on that. I did ask for an update on the evening restaurant facilities & they were pleased to give me a date later in May 2026 but we missed that as we were on a flying visit . If you want refreshments in the afternoon/evening the local Co-op is only 5 minutes walk away & it sells practically everything. The big question is: Would I stay there again? The answer is: We did.

Lovely helpful manager. Overnight stay perfect for us. Hotel a little dated but clean and newly decorated . Comfortable bed, everywhere spotless.

Lovely room with a view, we were upgraded on arrival. All staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Hotel very well situated, easy to find and short walk to central town area. Very well situated for going to the Eden project by car and the south coast of that area of Cornwall. The only negative comment - the noise of nearby boiler? early in the morning.

This was our 2nd stay and we'll no doubt return! Such a lovely relaxed hotel. A comfortable stay where guests are warmly welcomed. The hotel has lots to offer a varied clientele and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic location for exploring imediate area - English Heritage Restormel castle and Roysl Duchy garden nursery amongst local river walks and quaint shops . Several good eateries. Train station meant we could explore further afield and train prices are very reasonable to travel to St Ives, Penzance and Truro ect. Obviously the sunny weather added to having a beautiful stay!

Staff are really friendly, breakfast was amazing with cereal, fresh fruit, croissants, juice and a superb freshly cooked hot selection. I had the full English and it was tasty with good quality ingredients. The rooms are clean and comfortable with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. I had a triple room in the annex and this had a small fridge too. There is a heated outdoor pool and towels are available at reception. The new manager was very friendly and took time to ask about me and my stay, even though he seemed to be single-handedly running reception, the bar area and cooking. The hotel is only currently serving a very small set menu for evening meals, so there was limited choice, there are a few pubs and restaurants around but as I travel alone for work I always choose hotels that offer evening meals. I had steak and mushroom pie and chips, it was little disappointing, soggy pastry and very thick gravy that was impossible to pour, however it did taste good. There is no alcohol served here, but this isn't too much of an issue as you can bring your own and drink it in the bar and restaurant, the manager/staff will happily provide you with glasses I will definitely stay here again when I am in the area, I love the cosy feel and the friendly staff, and the breakfast is one of the highlights.

Returned from hotel yesterday We took our 12 year old Grandson with us Greeted by lovely lady in reception and told room nearly ready. Just needed fresh towels. Whilst we waited we got talking to housekeeping lady who took time to ask about where we were from and what we had planned to do whilst there. Gave us some ideas as to where to go and visit. Hotel room clean and large. The same room as previous visits. The following morning met by Lisa the Breakfast Waitress who remembered us from previous visit. Breakfast plentiful Cereals. Yoghurts. Croissants. Toast. Fruit. Full English Omelettes. Salmon. Haddock. Tea and Coffee. Excellently prepared. All cooked freshly for you. Wednesday & Thursday breakfast was served by Lucky who also was very attentive Met new Hotel manager who spoke to all guests in restaurant and took time to ask about your plans Outside heated pool. This hotel has had a change of manager from previous visit but standard very good People mentioned no alcohol but easily remedied Either bring your own or visit one of the many pubs in the village Fantastic stay Fantastic staff Nothing too much trouble for any of the Staff. A credit to the Hotel Look forward to our next visit.

We had a lovely stay for 3 nights. We had our dog in a dog friendly room and my Mum in a double room. The rooms were clean and even a little box of bowls/blanket and treats for our dog. The breakfast was amazing with a vast selection of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast, coffees, teas and juices as well a cooked to order hot breakfast. Every staff member we met was friendly and helpful. Thank you for a great stay. We will be back.

Wow !! Where do I start ? This hotel and its manager Armin were absolutely wonderful. We stayed here for 2 nights B&B last week whilst we explored the local area doing some walking and running. We have been meaning to stay here for years and eventually booked up when BW offered some blue light discount. Our room and the whole hotel was spotless and very well looked after. The bed was amazing and the shower was superb. Nice and warm and cosy with nice furnishings and bedding. Both the room and bathroom was spotless. The heated pool looked amazing and is open 365 days a year. We didnt go in but if we bought our swimmers we would have ! Breakfast was brilliant and superbly cooked. We could have had whatever we wanted and Armin was happy to cook more if we wanted it. We even sampled one of Armin's new drinks he plans to sell when he opens up the bar as a coffee shop. It was lovely👌 Armin is a fantastic host. Lots of passion for the hotel and his guests. It was nice chatting to him and to hear of all the plans he has for this wonderful hotel. He is a gent and both myself and my wife enjoyed his company. If you havnt been to this hotel you must visit... you will not be disappointed. Lostwithiel is a lovely stannary town and a pleasure to walk around. I recommend visiting Lerryn as that is truly beautiful. We will certainly be back again soon to see Armin and stay at his wonderful hotel. Greg & Tracy.

Many members of our family stayed here as it was where we chose to hold our mum's wake. The welcome was warm and Amir, the owner, could not have been more accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was ever present should we need him. We chose an upgraded room and it was comfortable and clean. Both mornings we enjoyed a delicious breakfast.. it did take a really long time to arrive but the lady who took our order and brought the breakfast to us apologised and was really lovely. At the wake, food was tasty and plentiful. Many boxes were willingly provided for people to take leftovers. In the absence of a bar licence we brought our own wine and beer and as soon as we put the sparkling wine down staff brought out buckets of ice and glasses. We mainly chose this venue because of location but we are thrilled at our choice. Thank you Amir and staff.

The hotel currently has no bar service and very limited menu meaning I can't give it 5 stars. Breakfast only starts at 07:30 late for business travellers but the grab and go option was fantastic. When I had breakfast the second morning it was lovely same could be said for the curry. The room was clean, bed comfy and great WiFi even managed video and Teams calls. The staff were friendly and the manger Amir couldn't do enough to help, checking that you had everything you need. Didn't try the heated outdoor pool as didn't think it would be open in January but it was, so worth taking swimming kit.

The great attitude of the staff makes this a great hotel to stay in

Our stay was faultless. Everything was excellent. Room clean, warm and unlimited hot drink provision in the room . Staff exceptional, nothing was too much trouble . Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and the choices on the menu many. Locally sourced food , so all good quality ingredients . We also held a wake in the hotel and again the food was outstanding and plenty of it. The staff maintained a friendly and kind approach throughout . Will definitely stay here again. Service was first class.

I stayed in the BW Fowey Valley over new year 25/26 with my husband and two dogs for five nights. What a FANTASTIC stay we had! Highlights included: Room Clean, cosy and well laid out. I have the impression it was recently renovated. The pet-friendly rooms are in a separate wing overlooking the carpark with each room having direct access outside. The rooms are well sound proofed - I was worried that other canine residents might set off our own dogs but there wasn't a single issue. En suite was clean, modern and had lots of hot water. Breakfast An AMAZING menu of items cooked to order which were delicious! We stayed five nights and tried a different item each day. Eggs Florentine and Benedict were clear winners! Restaurant & Lounge The hotel doesn't officially offer evening meals however they did have a reduced menu over New Year which was most welcomed, tasty and reasonably priced. It's currently only BYOB which worked fine for us in both the restaurant and the lounge. The staff were most accommodating in providing glassware Staff Were all super friendly, efficient and very personable. Nothing was too much trouble and they did their utmost to make guests feel welcomed. On one morning there had been a very heavy frost - they put up signage to warn guests and provided scrapers and defrost sprays for guests to use. Outdoor Pool Was open in the dead of winter and was a real highlight! Staff were accommodating in removing the cover to give us access and provide pool towels. Location Lostwithiel is a real gem. I've been visiting family in Fowey for 23 years and am ashamed to say I didn't realise how lovely the town is. Great position on the river with plenty of routes for running and dog walking. Fore Street is full of character with lovely independent shows, cafes, restaurants etc. The Giant Parade on New Years Eve was a highlight!

Visiting family in Lostwithiel over Christmas, so the accommodation was in an excellent and quiet location ! The hotel has a very good vibe and the proprietor was welcoming and very helpful.Our room was spotlessly clean and had the usual amenities . There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool (although we didn't use it due to the December weather!) All in all, very good value for money!

You can't go wrong, clean extremely friendly helpful staff, amazing breakfast and good location for visiting the area, not to mention a fabulous pub not 5 min walk away

First visit under new management and received a warm and friendly welcome. The cooked breakfast was excellent with bacon and pork sausages. Plenty of options cooked to order, alongside self serve toast, hot drinks and healthy options. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Room was clean and warm and ideal for a quick 2 night visit.

The Hotel Manager was exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, and is his team were excellent. I had the best Eggs Royale ever with my brerakfast and enjoyed a lovely warm water swim in the outdoor pool in November! Everywhere was clean and gleaming.

Lostwithiel is an exceptionally lovely, beautiful and old small town. The hotel staff were very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much bother. Had I known the outdoor pool is heated all year round I would have brought my trunks. At 7am this morning someone was swimming in it, the air temperature was zero. The layout of the buildings and bedroomms that are dog driendly that we stayed in are well equipped. One thing you might have to do in winter like us, is run the hot water for quite some time befor e it is piping hot. The breakfast was lovely and we look forward to staying again . Thank you for such a pleasant stay. It is good value for money and we found it very peaceful.

Just returned from our annual stay at The Fowey Valley Hotel and were as pleased as ever with the spotless and comfortable room, breakfast and service from the pleasant and friendly staff and management. It looks like we've missed the suspension of the service of pork products and alcohol which had been introduced since our last visit so no problems there. The evening menu had not been reinstated but will be soon, as will the alcohol in the bar. Breakfast section and service was faultless and the hotel manager Amir could not have been more pleasant and helpful and went above and beyond normal service to make us feel welcome and valued as customers. See you next year!

My partner & I stayed here for 2 nights & very much enjoyed our stay. Room had everything we wanted & more-the mini fridge was very useful! All staff were very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was very good & we were left feeling very full. The offer of a hot drink was very appreciated & thoughtful especially as it was a very cold day! Would definitely recommend & would stay there again.

Currently at the hotel, new owners are trying hard and making positive changes…. Breakfast, this is now a traditional English breakfast without any restrictions that were In place previously . The staff are exceptional and really go the extra mile. No bar currently but believe that's part of the long term plan and you can still bring your own alcohol …. Give it go

We have stayed at this lovely hotel several times, and it just gets better. Friendly welcoming staff at reception and serving breakfast. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Fluffy white towels, too. The bed was comfortable, and there was a lot of tea and coffee. Even some biscoff biscuits. Breakfast was amazing, excellent continental options, and the hot food was great with a massive choice on offer. Amir, the manager, was a gem. We are already looking forward to our next visit. If you are in this area, please don't pass this hotel by.

We booked this overnight stay, with limited expectations especially as it was only £84 for a pet friendly family room, including breakfast! The rooms were spotless, the breakfast was spot on, with an amazing amount of choice and the cooked items prepared to order. The staff were outstanding and without exception made you feel very welcome. The dog loved it and was even welcome to join us for breakfast in the bar area. Lots of free parking and a really quirky layout adds to the appeal.

The staff I dealt with were lovely and the hotel was clean. In many hotels that should be enough but I felt conned that this was a hotel that didn't serve pork or alcohol for religious reasons. I'm sorry but this is the UK, a secular country and whilst we respect everybody's right to follow a religion it shouldn't be imposed on others. I will not be going there again.

From reception to the rooms I must say this hotel is spot on, it is very clean and comfortable, the service and breakfast was excellent. Due to being out of season the bar and restaurant we closed which was a shame but the local Royal Oak pub served wonderful food at sensible prices The electric car charger stopped halfway through my charge but I was credited the lost difference. Will I return yes I certainly will.

We have been to this hotel on numerous occasions as situated in a good position to get to all of Cornwall. However it has now changed hands and they no longer do evening meals , serve alcohol or serve bacon and pork sausage with breakfast. In the past the cooked breakfast was excellent. I will say the scrambled egg with smoked salmon was good. Lisa the breakfast waitress was very pleasant. I had booked a particular room and we were allocated a different deluxe room on arrival. They did change it to the original one but it was set up for one person so we had to ask for more towels and pillows. A nearby room had a very noisy shower which sounded as if the water wasn't flowing properly. All in all we had an enjoyable few days but this was mainly due to the fantastic September sunshine. We will not be returning again.

Fabulous hotel, excellent room brilliant breakfast with large choice, friendly staff. Lostwithiel good location for visiting, Polperro and Looe. They don't serve evening meals but good food can be obtained at the Globe or Royal Oak,both 5 minutes walk away.

We have just returned from two nights at the Best Western Fowey Valley and very much enjoyed our time in Lostwithiel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the pool was a lovely temperature and we wished we had brought our costumes. The room was in the courtyard area and not one of the deluxe ones, think Premier Inn standard. It was spotlessly clean and there was quite a bit to do in our day in Lostwithiel - castle, museum etc. We would come back there again.

Misleading picture. Thus is a run down ipd property. Sad and grubby. Polite reception staff. Overpriced. Really needs to be pulled down and rebuilt to modern standards. No elevators. I am a senior and gad no assistance with luggage going upstairs.

Our 5th visit to the hotel, 4 times under last management, first and last under this one. Booked 4 rooms for a special birthday weekend. Firstly, there is no longer a bar /restaurant facility in the hotel, so if you want something to eat in the evening you have to leave the hotel. Breakfast is absolutely nothing like the lovely photos or what we have had in the past, yes there are alternatives, but if like us, you like a good old English breakfast (and in Cornwall why wouldn't you!) beware there is no bacon, pork sausage, black pudding! The food is halal something which goes against my values. We waited over an hour for breakfast, and the restaurant was not even half full. The water in our room went off mid shower, whilst washing my hair, and the TV in our room also had no sound. Reported this to reception, and after breakfast, was told the TV was fine (I did try all things the night before but didn't switch it off and on again) and so was the water, and it may have dipped due to demand. However, the following morning, my sons room, several doors down from mine, had absolutely no water at all and he had to relocate to the annexe building to shower, so clearly not the dismissive due to demand that i was told. As this was now 2 separate rooms, 2 separate mornings I asked to speak to a manager and was told he would ring me. The receptionist, obviously didn't recognise one of my party as she mimicked my complaints over the phone. Personally i don't think it was unjust to complain, when two rooms on two days had no water in them, rendering the shower out of use, but hey ho. The manager rang during the day but the signal was poor so we asked him to call us back, we also tried to return the call after getting cut off, but was surprised that we went through to different name of hotel group, not Best Western. After 5 calls with 4 different people and explaining each time the complaint, we heard nothing. In the end we contacted Best Western (personally I think the hotel is in a sale transition period) BW advised they would give the hotel 7 days to respond and guess what they didn't. Very glad of BW intervention, they have been really helpful and compensated us for the lack of washing facilities. But for those who like us have returned to this hotel, over the years. it's changed, I never thought to read the reviews, as I'm sure we've previously given a glowing review on it, but beware it's significantly changed.

Nice hotel with plenty of free car parking for guests. Our 40th Wedding Anniversary was noted with a sign and balloons. Plus staff wished us Happy Anniversary on arrival.

Great location as a base for visiting different places in Cornwall. Very clean spacious rooms very helpful staff. Heated outdoor pool. A very nice hotel at a very resonable price and was perfect for our stay to see some of the highlights of Cornwall.

We were not impressed. I like a full English breakfast but the removal of pork meant no pork sausage or bacon. So not full English so we went elsewhere. Surrounding pubs are nice. Which was good because the 'hotel' doesn't serve alcohol. Our first day was scorching but we couldn't use the pool. Best Westerns reply to my complaint was...we don't own or manage the hotel !

An excellent stay for children and dogs too. We stayed for two nights, very dog friendly. My two children loved it and the location near the river. Sadly the pool was not working but the river was so lovely. Hotel staff very helpful. We loved the breakfast, no problem for us with no pork or alcohol. Breakfast lovely the cooked food was lovely and hot. All very clean and tidy. Parking easy and plenty of it.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at this friendly well located hotel. It offered us a clean and comfortable room although the bed was a queen size in the triple room. The breakfast was really tasty with excellent choices for freshly cooked dishes. All produce was of a good quality and cooked perfectly. The staff we met were very pleasant and helpful. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

I had booked this hotel well in advance, yes I had read comments regarding management but this did NOT put me off. The hotel was lovely, clean (spotless) staff were very friendly and nothing was any problem. There is a bar BUT there is no alcohol, not an issue Breakfast was excellent. We were in a local pub and overheard a member of staff from another pub joking with one of our hotel guests about "not getting his cooked breakfast" I had a cooked breakfast 3 mornings, no it wasn't the usual "English" breakfast but it was cooked and delicious. Some people should just stop trying to put others down as we felt this was how the "barmaid" was doing, obviously an ex employee bearing a grudge. As a BW Gold member I asked for an upgrade if it was available, it was and we received an upgrade and the room was excellent. There is free parking, a heated swimming pool and excellent service

Nice bright comfy room with good ensuite bathroom, nice large soft towels. Nice heated outdoor pool. Easy parking. Shame restaurant only open for breakfast though. Needs a larger/better hotel sign as drove straight past it initially , it's at the bottom of a hill

Good reception by all the staff. Only complaint is the "Full"English breakfast. Chicken sausages provided as the only meat source, tasteless and just like eating bread. The reason I was given is the owners are Egyptian Muslims, and bacon is from the pig so off limits. This is England, not Egypt, and a full English breakfast should be just that in England. Foisting your alien religious prejudices on your guests in their own country is just not on. It should be prominently displayed on their advertising material and the website to allow guests to make their own choice. If it had been advertised I would have been prepared and that would have been my choice to make. The room was spotless and the bathroom free of mould, with a great shower and bath. Beds were comfortable and heating more than adequate. The room we had faced the main road, but the double-glazed windows did a good job in muffling the noise, we had a good night's sleep. In the wall information panel, it said there was a all-year-round heated swimming pool, and it looked good even in the pouring rain! Recommended - especially at the prices charged.

This hotel was booked based on its location (near the Eden Project) and price (about £80 per night with breakfast), and seemed promising from its reviews - now I look deeper, I can see that many recent reviews show how it really isn't that good and that returning visitors feel its decline since new management has come along and they don't want to visit again. The management need to look at what their customers are saying, take action on the maintenance issues and make changes that suit the customers. These are my thoughts… Bedroom - bright generally, but bedside reading lights were inadequate once main ceiling lights were switched off. The desk looked tired, had an uncomfortable chair and not big enough to put to good use (especially since half of the space was taken up by the tea tray). The beds are only provided with one thin pillow per person - the alternative is the scatter cushion (who knows how often the cover gets washed!) The headboard of one of the beds was also damaged, giving the room an overall tired and unloved feel, which continued into the bathroom. Bathroom - flaking paint on the ceiling and unhealthy mould and stains on the roller-blind. More importantly, the water in the bath/shower and sink came through VERY HOT (why not add a few warning signs?) and water pressure varied quite a bit during a shower. The tight layout made it very difficult to get in and out of the bath/shower without touching the EXTREMELY HOT towel radiator (surely a shower cubicle would take up less space and avoid possible accidents). Also, get some decent toilet paper - two rolls of cheap single-ply stuff ran out with just two people using it for three nights! Noise - the bedroom walls are so thin, they might as well get rid of them, therefore we did not sleep well. Any time someone closes a door in another room, the walls of our room shook. We were also woken before 7am by a dog barking (I thought they had a special set of rooms, not on the top floor), and “panting and moaning noises associated with intimate relations” in the next room very early on another morning. Restaurant - while some websites correctly state that there is no evening service, others fail to state that only breakfast is being served (7:30-9:30am is far too early when you're on holiday!). There are also websites that claim that there is a ‘full' breakfast: there are plenty of sources on the Internet that state that a typical full English breakfast (as one would expect from such a hotel in England) would include bacon and pork sausages (black pudding would also be nice, if not to everyone's taste), yet this establishment has chosen not to serve any pork products - there is nothing stating this on any website. Instead, they offer chicken (or veggie) sausages. We therefore ordered pancakes on the first morning - out of stock (but how long does it take to mix some batter). Eventually, some very anaemic and virtually raw chicken sausages were brought - there was no way these were being eaten by us! The next day, pancakes were available but (having waited a long time and with no maple syrup available) they were so dry and tasteless, even microwavable frozen pancakes tasted better! The solution: Q Street coffee shop next door - others from the same hotel were spotted in there ordering a proper breakfast, and the café owners knew about the issues with the hotel's breakfast “service”. The hotel's website does state that alcohol is not served (this doesn't bother us, but several other reviewers have expressed their disappointment), but they can at least cater to the vast majority of its customers and serve a proper English breakfast rather than substandard alternatives that better suit a much smaller number of potential guests. Once these problems have been rectified, they should then get on with ensuring the rooms are fit for purpose.

This is our second time at the hotel and although some things have changed such as no restaurant in the evening and no pork products on the breakfast menu the quality of the breakfast was excellent and the staff did everything they could to make it a wonderful experience, the vegetarian sausages are a great substitute although the chicken ones weren't to our liking. You do have to ask to have your room cleaned before 10 am but as they work so hard to make your holiday it's a small thing, they do offer towels and anything you need for your stay at reception and there's a pub 10 mins walk which serves great food from 6pm so it was fine for us. On one morning they ran out of pancakes and they even went out to get some for my son which was above and beyond. Although different from before we will still be returning next year for our family holiday as we all love it here and the staff make the hotel including the manager on reception who seems to work everywhere and is so hard working and smily and the restaurant staff including the lovely Lisa xxx

We had a six night stay at this hotel in a deluxe room. The room was very clean and well maintained. We were very disappointed with the breakfast menu . Pork was not served so there was no full English breakfast. No where on any website was this pointed out before booking. Items listed on the continental breakfast menu were not seen during our stay. Websites advertised that evening meal was offered but this was not the case even though there were notices advertising these meals in the hotel. The bar only served non alcoholic drinks! Servicing of rooms only took place by request. We will not be returning to this hotel.

Change of ownership means at this hotel there is no alcohol served or pork products so no birthday tipple for my wife or a treat of a English breakfast for me so very disappointing We were not told about this when we booked at the start of the year

Been coming to this hotel for past few years. Was always a very friendly and social place under previous owners. Now with no restaurant and no alcohol no-one gathers in the evening in the ex bar area to socialise. Our room in the annexe was continually running with water from condensation in the bathroom. Some staff were excellent. Agree that Royal Oak / Globe do good food, but the hotel now feels more like a motel. Will not be staying again.

Down from S Devon for a couple of nights B&B with our trusty Pooch. As Best Western Club Members got superb Value from their 2-4-1 email offer. Room with dog treats box spotless and most welcome. Staff friendly. HOWEVER, breakfast contains no Bacon or Pork Sausage, assume on Ethical or Religious grounds. My Wife happy with her smoked Haddock with Poached Egg. I was gutted re bland breakfast with horrendous rubbery Chicken Sausage & no Bacon. If this was addressed it would be 5 stars all round. Check, Check, Check !!!

Jane was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and cosy. Pleasant experience. Fairly close to Bodmin Parkway train station. Would recommend. Nice and quiet environment so can relax and work etc without disturbance. Sufficient space to hang clothes and iron available.

The pub is 29 paces away. The rail oak does great food. And there's plenty of places to eat if you want a drink. Hotels are about sleep and cleanliness . The facilities are great Jane is super helpful . Complaining about no bacon is pathetic . Beds are comfy and it's clean and quiet, plenty of parking in a great part of Cornwall

I have had a great stay at this hotel, despite all the negative reviews. The staff are great and the service is excellent. Would recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of places within a short distance to eat and drink. If you want to have alcohol, you can bring your own, but it's just as easy to visit one of the many pubs in town.

Under new branding although still a Best Western? They don't serve alcohol so couldn't have a beer or wine while staying here for the weekend. They should have told us before we booked. Not the sort of place you want to go while visiting Cornwall.

Warm welcome from all the staff. Our pet friendly room was spotless and comfy. Due to new ownership there have been a couple of changes, no alcohol on the premisses, but there are plenty of local pubs near by. Breakfast was cooked fresh and was tasty, the salmon & scrambled eggs were delicious. I highly recommend this hotel and the location is great for exploring the area and beaches.

Lovely hotel with warm and comfortable rooms and local, friendly staff. We were a bit confused by the bar not serving alcohol nor any pork for breakfast! ?? However there are some great pubs and a fantastic cafe serving breakfast in less than 2 minutes walking distance. Would recommend staying here but use the local amenities to eat and drink!

This is our third visit to this Hotel. Simon and his staff are excellent. Hotel very clean. Food excellent cooked to order. Lovely choice at breakfast. Cereal, muffins. Yogurt. Fruit. Croissants. Bread to toast plus cooked choice. Tea. Coffee etc. We stayed in the Hayloft room. Large Bed beautiful place to stay. Plenty of space and Immaculate. Hotel near railway station for your trips. Plymouth, Looe and Padstow. Local area very nice and quiet. The staff here are a credit to Simon manager of Hotel.

Coming up to 10 visits at the Fowey Valley Hotel & we'll definitely carry on. When we walk into the hotel at the start of our holiday, it always feels like we're home. The staff are fantastic, so friendly & helpful, but professional too. The rooms are always spotless & the towels are to die for. Breakfast food is great & hot food is cooked to order, not left to keep warm on a hot plate. We also booked the Wednesday carvery & that was brilliant too. I mustn't forget to mention Barney. We always look forward to seeing him, having watched him grow from a puppy to the age he is now. To see him greet guests at reception is a sight to behold. And I also mustn't forget the newest addition, Charlie. Can't wait to see him grow too. We'll be back.

We stayed 5 nights and had an excellent room (room 9). We found the hotel very welcoming and the staff very helpful. I do feel the lack of alcohol is a very silly policy but beyond the control of the staff on site. What is wrong with wanting a glass of wine with one's evening meal, or a drink after dinner? However, we would stay there again as the hotel has many advantages and is well sited for that area of Cornwall.

Stayed as a couple with our one year old and dog. Room spacious and liked the hard flooring, felt clean and great for the dog especially. Check in staff were friendly, the phone call the day before to check if we needed anything was a nice touch. This was our 3rd stay here, and I see the same issue that I raised in 2017 with regard to the bathroom still stands. Unfortunately the bathroom is so cold and damp that it takes over the review here really. The wall is constantly dripping wet, puddling on the floor, the toilet roll is soaking and un usable. It's not an issue with the shower condensation but due to the temperature. I raised this with the woman on the desk upon leaving who didn't seem too bothered, just said she'd mention it again to the boss. She said they'd looked into what it is and installed extractor fans but it seems if they have found the problem nobody has tried to fix it in the past 7 years in those rooms. The last time I fed this info back it was said that it would be rectified by maintenance so I am shocked after all these years to see it still hasn't been resolved. It would seem if it cannot be fixed then acknowledging the issue and providing extra towels and advising to keep the toilet roll out of the bathroom in a basket may go a long way. We had to buy new toilet roll and just keep it in the room to take in because the ones provided are just ruined by the water all over the walls. The location is great and parking good, that is why we have returned when in the area before but I wish the bathroom situation could be acknowledged.

Stayed at the Fowey Valley for 5 nights in a Deluxe Double Room. The bed was massive and comfy. Room was a good size and the walk in shower room was amazing. The water pressure was excellent and I miss the massage each time. We didn't have breakfast there but did eat in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was delicious. The Cornish Rump of Lamb was one of the best meals I've had. Once a week they do a carvery which was good. The staff were all very friendly. Special mention to Jane for all her advice. Free Parking and a heated swimming pool. We rebooked for later in the year - ideal base for exploring Cornwall. Couple of things to note: they are an alcohol free hotel but you can bring your own. You need to request housekeeping each day if you want your room cleaned - we just left our towels outside and they were refreshed. The restaurant isn't open 7 days a week. Closes at weekends. The bar area / lounge isn't manned during the day. Good value hotel. Clean and spacious.

The hotel is easy to find and well positioned for exploring Cornwall. The rooms that we have stayed in have all been large enough, clean, well decorated and maintained. Beds and pillows are comfortable, showers work well and towels are generous and good quality. The Wi-Fi is password protected and was fast enough for us. We did not try the pool, but it felt warm enough and other guests were enjoying it at the end of September. We did not have an evening meal, but the breakfast is exceptional. Cooked to order, plentiful, with excellent coffee, real fruit juices, plenty of choice. The standout feature is the competence and friendliness of the staff, most of whom have worked there for years. Cheerfull without being intrusive, they enjoy looking after you, so you will enjoy it too.

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were very attentive and helpful. They explained the policy of the new owners removing all alcohol from sale but had managed to negotiate and allow us to buy our own and they would provide glasses. The room was lovely. Clean and well appointed. Lots of sockets. Welcome basket and plenty of tea and coffee you could top up from reception. The pool was 27.6c but needs some TLC with some missing tiles. Good parking facilities and lots of local information given by staff. Would definitely stay again. It's a good base for sightseeing especially the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. The manager was friendly and also very helpful with advice

Rooms clean and comfortable but very dated. Needs a refurb. More motel than hotel. Breakfast was adequate but good to have a vegan option. Swimming pool needs maintenance. Very early breakfast (by 9.30) and checkout (by 10.30) for a Sunday. Convenient location as we're attending a wedding nearby

Nice little hotel staff friendly food is lovely carvery on a weds is beautiful perfect for all places to get to in Cornwall. Simon the manager door is alway open to any problems visiting people have. No alcohol at the hotel due to new owner have removed all alcohol . The local shop is a 5 mins flat walk. Car park there are 2 at the hotel with electric charging points.

Having booked the hotel a month in advance we arrived after finding one of the two car parks at the back of the hotel down a flight of stairs to get to reception…. (It's up from car park two 2 flights) when we arrived at reception we were told that the owners had arrived that day and taken out all the alcohol for religious reasons… I'm not religious and was looking forward to a glass of wine with my booked meal.. so cancelled my meal… I wasn't allowed to cancel my booking and get my money back. The room was up and down a further 3 flights of stairs and would have been inaccessible or dangerous with a full sized case.. the room was also above the kitchen and had fan noise all through the night with a tiny bathroom and an instant heat electric shower that was awful. Don't do it… I got a deal… there are definitely better deals out there… if you're infirm definitely don't do it…

I love this hotel and stay here often when working in the area. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the facilities good, there is plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits and if you need more these are available in the reception area to help yourself to. There are a number of different rooms, from small single to large family rooms with fridge and bath, some are even dog friendly. The staff are super friendly, a special mention to Jane who greets me like an old friend and always remembers me from previous visits, she has great knowledge of the local area and will happily give you advice and tips on places to visit. The evening meals and tasty and well cooked and breakfast is great with food cooked fresh to order. The outdoor pool is a nice surprise, the water is lovely and warm and pool towels are provided at reception. As a lone traveler I always feel safe and welcome here

I booked a Comfort Double Room and found I had been given a room with a small double room with a double and single bed. The second issue I had, was I requested a soft bed and received a bed harder than the concrete floor, and had the most disturbed sleep ever. I have stayed at this Hotel since 1984 on a few occasions and I can say that I will never stay there again. Smell of dogs in the room, causing my wife to have allergic reactions. I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area.

We arrived her on Monday 29th and we're booked till today what can I say well from start to end we have had a wonderful time staff were lovely couldn't do enough for you very friendly advising us where to go if you want a quiet village to go lostwithel is the place you do need a car to travel but the hotel was brill what would make it better aircon other than that breakfast was lovely the pool was great open till 830pm couldn't get my little girl out I would sefo recommend this place if you had a car to travel around in till we see you again xxxx

I have to travel for work on a tight budget. This has been my best stay so far . Travelling alone it was welcoming that the staff were so friendly and made safe. The room was clean and bed comfortable and plenty of tea coffee and biscuits. Breakfast was delightful and ordered fresh , I'm not a fan of a hot buffet . All in all super and my now go to destination .

The room and beds were clean and comfortable. You could help yourself to tea and coffee, if you ran out. The swimming pool was great - heated to 28⁰C! The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast had a terrific choice and was very good quality.

Comfortable, clean and friendly. Only downside is our bathroom didn't have a window that opened or extractor fan. Made the room really hot not great in the summer. Breakfast was really expensive, £17 and that was if you wanted just eggs and toast. Local cafe was £9 for a full English or half size £6. And you got loads.

We were given an outside room, which we believe is normally occupied with those with pets, which was large and spotlessly clean. Not sure I'd appreciate it in Winter but it was excellent for our stay. We stayed here because it was good base from which to explore Cornwall which it was though first impressions of the hotel especially if you park in South Street car park can be a bit worrying. Two large car parks makes parking easy. Staff were friendly. Didn't have evening meal there. The menu (choices and prices) didn't look appealing and we found a pub nearby (The Globe) that was excellent. Breakfast was good but surprised that breakfast finishes at 9am which is a tad early for those holidaying and there is a bit of a rush at 8.45 which underlines that.

Not really sure why the door is always locked, yet the annex where we stayed is always unlocked ? the few staff we encountered seemed pleasant, but I didn't really feel I got a hotel experience. Fine for a night. I have 27 characters left. Now 5?

Hotel clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful, always somebody available to help or supply information on the local area, breakfast very good, freshly cooked not buffet style, again staff very helpful and friendly, use the restaurant once for dinner food was excellent. Good value for money, hope to return again in the near future, would not hesitate to recommend.

We had been holidaying in nearby Looe when we weren't ready to come home and so tagged on an extra bonus night to delay reality for a little longer! Everything about this hotel was seamless and special mention to Jane on reception who is a total asset to the business she was friendly, welcoming, amenable and very knowledgeable and an overall pleasure to deal with as the first port of call. Her recommendation for a local pub (The Royal Oak Inn) ended up being our best meal of the whole week and nothing was too much trouble! The room was super comfortable and well appointed and had everything you'd need facilities wise that made it a really enjoyable stay. We even managed to go in the swimming pool which was a nice touch. Would 100% stay here again in the future it was simply fabulous!

Spent a fab couple of nights in this lovely hotel. Ideally situated in Lostwithiel, perfect for visiting lots of places in Cornwall, especially being a short walk from the mainline train station. Our room was quite small, but had everything we needed and was perfectly clean, as was the whole place. The staff were all lovely, very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was very good and the 28°C outdoor pool was fabulous, especially in the hot weather! Ample parking too. We were sorry to leave.

Our third visit and once again enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the hotel and the town. It's a great base for touring the delights of Cornwall. Great breakfast choice and many places to eat locally (hotel restaurant was closed the week we went). Swimming pool and loungers if you want to relax at the hotel (though pool was very cold this time due to boiler issues)_

I'm very impressed with this BW hotel. It was clean , well furnished, excellent location & the staff were brilliant. Without fail the staff were friendly, helpful, professional. & appeared to enjoy working at this BW. The breakfast was excellent & loved the fact that there were proper teapots available. Great location within easy walking distance of the station & many local attractions. Lostwithiel is a real gem overlooked by many

I reviewed this hotel after a stay in December 2017 (3* average) and nothing has changed. My wife liked it but we will not be returning due to the fact that the fire door was STILL permanently wedged open despite telling management. A serious health and safety problem.

Excellent central location. Staff lovely, very helpful and informative too. Breakfast brilliant. Pool really lovely and warm and great to swim in.

This is not a luxury or boutique hotel but it is very very good. Nice rooms, easy to park and lovely and clean. What makes this hotel so good are the staff and the food. The staff are so welcoming, without being false and over the top. You get a real friendliness and warmth, so professional. We stayed only one night as its close to the Eden Project, and wished we could have stayed longer, we will in the future. Good location and base. We ate in the small restaurant, and the food was lovely. A small relatively simple menu but everything was so nice. The best meals we had, by far, on our stay in Cornwall. Breakfast was equally excellent and the service throughout wonderful. A bit of a gem

Perfect for a get away with partner and dogs. Dogs were treated like royalty, the swimming pool was great and the breakfast was a great start to the day.

Parking Ample parking in the main and overflow carparks! Room The suite was perfect for the family. Room 1 was spacious and room 2 was perfect for the children. Everything in the room was clean and tidy. Mattresses are perfect! I wonder if Mattison Contract Beds sell direct to the public!!! Staff Restaurant staff friendly, understanding and attentive! Trina and Jane on reception were excellent, friendly and very helpful! Pool Water nice and warm! Heated water circulating nicely! Loccation Ideally located for anyone wishing to visit popular tourist destinations - inland and on the coast. Check-in The welcome upon arrival was rather lacklustre. At one point it felt that we were being rushed when advised to decide about breakfast in the morning rather than spending time to help us decide during check-in. Very matter-of-fact! Another guest being seen before us seemed to get the same matter-of-fact treatment regarding her query/complaint. Shame really, as Jane and Trina were exceptional! Breakfast Breakfast, albeit lovely, was overpriced. Although the choice was mine, you're almost held at ransom. Q Coffee cafe just around the corner, which would have been an option... Choice and selection reasonable, though I'd prefer a buffet-style breakfast. I'd suggest a selection of cheeses on the Continental Breakfast station. I'm sure there would have been some available if I had asked. Bathroom There was a strange "astringent" smell, that I recognise from a blocked or not so clean drain - easily resolved and maintained! Pool This could do with a re-tile and regular clean. Quite some detritus at the bottom of the pool. Filters might need a clean, more chlorine and general maintenance. I've come away with an ear infection and one of the children vomiting after swallowing the water. Again, easily resolved.

Stayed two nights in a deluxe room, first floor, facing the garden - room 16. The room was spacious and very clean, with a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, robes and slippers and had a lovely view over the back garden with no noise from the back car park, (although we could hear the TV in the adjacent room). The bed was very comfortable with quality bedding and the bathroom had lovely smelling toiletries. We found the room very hot and had the windows open during our stay, but that may have been due to the lovely weather we were fortunate to have (there was a fan in the wardrobe). There was a good selection of food for breakfast, with food cooked to order. The restaurant was shut Sat and Sun night, so we ate locally at The Globe (which I can thoroughly recommend). Drinks at the bar were hotel prices and paid for, not added to the room bill. The outside heated pool was a bonus and the pool area was a real sun trap, with pool towels provided from reception. However, the pool is in need of some urgent maintenance, as there are LOTS of tiles missing on the steps, leaving the edges VERY sharp and likely to cause an injury. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, offering advice of places to visit and best car parks to use etc. Trina and Jane on reception were very efficient and helpful and are a real asset to the hotel. Thank you and we hope to return.

Good onsite parking, typical Best Western, however, exemplary service from all members of staff with a special shout out to Jane. I'd also like to note excellent food at both dinner and breakfast. Will certainly stay again if visiting this area. Thank you!

Nice hotel, extra bonus having a pool, although needs a little attention in places, lovely staff, lovely clean rooms, We had a luxury room the bed was mega, Breakfast good, good variety, would def stay here again, The only downfall is Lostwithiel hasn't got much to offer, a few pubs, Chinese, the fish and chip shop was closed at 7.30. Looe, st Austell not far away

From arriving until we left, everybody was friendly and helpful. Plenty of food for breakfast and the cream tea which was included in our Groupon Deal, was great. Clean and comfortable and Jane on Reception was very knowledgeable about the area.

Stayed for three nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Found the bedroom to be comfortable and well appointed. Continental breakfast set us up nicely for the day. We dined in the restaurant on one evening and were very happy with the quality of the meal. All the staff were very friendly, communal areas clean and tidy. Untethered EV charge point in overflow car park is a bonus. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent value accommodation with professional service. Perfect communication and service from all staff through from initial contact to leaving. Large pet friendly room with lots of facilities, pet pack, tv, fridge, iron, etc. Quality mattress and bedding. Room, bathroom and all public areas spotless. Rear exterior not the best looking but plenty of immediate parking. Decent breakfast. A credit to Best Western, no hesitation to book again.

What an amazing stay!! Trina and the staff could not do enough for you. The breakfasts were amazing, the rooms very comfortable (fresh water and milk and towels brought upon request and replenished promptly). The outdoor heated pool was a real plus! So warm and refreshing. The snug area was lovely and really convenient to gather family and young children together to chill out. We ended wanted to stay another night and trina met the price of the previous nights. We stumbled upon this hotel due to our caravan stay being an absolute disaster, they allowed us to check in to our rooms 10am that morning and included our breakfast for free with our rooms. If that's not service I don't know what is! Only thing I will note is that the dinner at the hotel is rather average and overpriced (as well as the drinks) , so I would suggest going to the Royal Oak Inn down the street for a great variety and reasonable prices. We can't wait to come back in the summer!

I just had to give this hotel 5 stars. We were there friday 5th to monday 8th April. The staff went the extra mile for us, letting us arrive at 10am to get a shower. Even got us exta pillows. All the staff were so friendly. Breakfast was worthy of a 5* hotel. The snug was well used by our family of son, daughter in law, 2 grandsons aged 8 & 6, mum, mum in law and dad. It had tv games and books. The out door heated pool was a bonus with pool towels free from reception. We will all hopefully return at some stage to your lovely hotel. Definitely value for money !! Lady at reception was very helpful and obliging, very clean. My only little gripe is that the bathroom ( room34) got very wet after a shower which made the floor very slippy) loved having the fridge made a big difference ! Comfy bed. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food, thanks for a great stay

Last minute deal was arranged which was fantastic value. Room was lovely comfy bed and great value lovely selection of drinks and biscuits available. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool. One thing I didn't enjoy was the fact there was no draught alcohol and it was mostly bottled bar Guinness. Breakfast was great value cooked fresh and plenty of choice. Would not hesitate stopping here again in the future.

The hotel was decorated to a high standard which gave it a cosy warm feeling. The room was very spacious, the bed was comfy and the shower was impressive. Jane went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, even permitting us to bring a takeaway back and enjoy it inside the hotel. Overall I'd recommend the hotel to others and would definitely stay there again.

Appeared to have been recently refurbished to a good standard of decor and room facilities. The sound proofing should be improved as TV seemed noisy when approaching from the corridor and would surely have been heard had anyone been staying in the adjacent room.

Unexpectedly needing a moderately priced twin-bedded room for the night, and outside normal booking times, the receptionist went out of her way to accommodate two elderly, vulnerable ladies., There was no fuss, just attention. The room was immaculate, beds comfortable and cosy. Perfect.

Nice and clean, reasonable hotel. We dropped off on the way south to see family. Room was ok, shower and towels etc all good. Has an outdoor pool that remains open all year (I think). The only downside and disappointment was the breakfast, £17.50 each and not great. Not poor enough to send back but the fish was meagre and the full English was nowhere near as good as many of the Full Cornish's you get in these parts. Would stay again but not have breakfast.

The hotel is just okay. The rooms are very outdated and are musty. Cute feel otherwise but could be so much more. The front desk staff are not friendly and are always in the back room. My colleague and I waited for so long only to be rudely served. Not impressed. There's no other decent hotel in the vicinity, that's the reason that they're still in business.

Husband and i stayed here for 2 nights b and b feb 14th 2024. Groupon deal with a cream tea also. What a lovely break away we had. From the friendly staff, to the 10/10 cleanliness, wonderful sleep, breakfasts were fab and the dinner we had one night was delicious. Pork belly mouthwatering. Definately recommend, and we hope to be back again one day.

A very good stay at this hotel which was very good value . Stayed in a deluxe room with breakfast. Room was very good and facilities were great. Breakfast varied and excellent choice. Well cooked. Evening meal was good quality and very tasty. Overall a good hotel in a suitable location to visit many venues in Cornwall. Will be returning. Staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for them,a credit to the hotel.

We did bed & breakfast. The food was hot and tasty and the staff helpful and friendly. The room was clean and there was plenty of milk and tea bags to help yourself to. The room was warm and cosy with a power shower.

Stayed two nights in de luxe room (32), so pleasantly surprised by the high quality of everything at the hotel ranging from the room to staff to food quality. Dinner in the hotel on our first night was excellent. Breakfast on both mornings was equally as good. When in Cornwall again we will definitely be staying here once more.

We travelled to Fowey to get a repair done to a watch. We could not find the location and Deanne at reception was extremely helpful in securing a positive outcome. Our stay was very brief but the hotel was good value, plenty of parking, decent sized clean room and bathroom. The rating below is relative to the price paid.

Absolutely cracking dog friendly hotel. I visited with my best friend Jo and my dog Basil for an overnight visit, breakfast and a cream tea. The staff were lovely and the hotel is beautiful. The room was very clean and bright and it was really dog friendly, easy to get out into the courtyard with the dog. The cream tea and breakfast were delicious. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, will definitely be coming back soon! Jo will want me to mention the awesome outdoor pool that they opened up for her to have a morning swim in!

We have been coming to this hotel for several years. It is a very friendly and welcoming place. The staff are all lovely and very accommodating and they are all keen to welcome the dogs as much as the humans! We will be back again!

The single room I stayed in (away from the front was quiet and comfortable, and absolutely clean, but a bit small. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good. I had the misfortune to break a tooth while in Lostwithiel and in order to see a dentist I had to stay an extra night. The management had the room available for an extra night, but took the opportunity to charge about £20 more than the rate I had paid on my booking. I am not saying this was wrong, but it is not exactly friendly towards a guest.

Having used hotels for many years this is the first time that I can say, without exception, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This was our first ecperience with a dog and would certainly use this hotel again.

The room on the ground floor suited us, the bed was comfy, the crips white sheets beautifully clean and I loved the fluffy white towels. The tray contained lovely Cornish beverages. The hot chocolate the best i've ever had.The breakfast was hot, tasty, freshly cooked and the evening meal at the restaurant was most enjoyable. Small menu, but enough choice. Great outdoor swimming pool was an added bonus, warm clean with towels provided. The staff, all of them, were friendly, and helpful. All in all great value for a three star. Proximity to the Eden Project was why we booked but Lostwithiel is a great little place to potter around. If you are less able then you may find the entrance challlengin but do phone ahead for advice. Oh and its dog friendly too.

Just spent 2 nights is this delightful hotel. Comfortable, clean, quiet, easy parking. The staff were so friendly, we ate in the restaurant both nights, excellent food and reasonably priced too. Breakfast was included, continental or full English cooked to order, delicious. Excellent location, about a 10-15 minute drive to the Eden Project, which is why we were there. Lovely town to walk around as well. Big thank you to the staff, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed two nights at the Best Western Fowey Valley this weekend. When arrived at the hotel parking at the back was easy and handy for me as disabled so parked in the long space as easier to get in and out of the car unfortunately no disabled spaces on site but that's not a issue for me but others might struggle unfortunately the council are not willing to put one in as the hotel have enquired already. and also easy to leave when out and about for the day. The room was nice, clean and quiet. The staff who we came in contact where very politely and helpful when we checked in and also when we left so special mention to Deanne very well done who checked us in and also the waitress kameji who served us on the Friday evening as booked a table in the restaurant. The food was lovely. Would come here again if we decide to return to Cornwall for a holiday.

A beautiful gem of a hotel with lovely welcoming staff, spotlessly clean but more importantly dog friendly. All fur babies get their own welcome pack and treats on arrival. All meals were cooked to perfection and plentiful, and the staff were very welcoming, with helpful hints of places to see and things to do. Will definitely be returning.

The heated pool is amazing and was open all the time. Perfect for an early morning swim. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. The town is so quaint and has good amenities: a supermarket, play area, skate park and you can walk about a mile to Restormel Castle, which was a lovely scenic walk,

The staff at the Best Western, Lostwithial are great and cannot do enough for you. Jane and Richard are always welcoming and very helpful. The hotel is well located and the outdoor heated pool and snug are great features.

Lovely place but needs more disabled access and also the restaurant needs to be open more then 2 hrs a day. Or options for travellers coming long distance to be able to get something to eat when arriving

The room was very clean, alot of little personal touches like dressing gowns, slippers. Loved using the heated pool. Had a meal and ate scallop and risotto. Best i have ever tasted. Would go back again. Thank you all for a most welcome break

The hotel facilities per se, the helpfulness, courtesy, and friendliness of ALL the staff encountered - reception, restaurant and janitorial alike - the variety, plenteousness and quality of all meals, and the comfort and cleanliness (simply spotless!) of our rooms were as good as I have ever experienced during my ~ 6 decades of travel world wide.

Great location. Ample on site car parking. A heated outdoor pool. OK in need of some maintenance but just so welcome. Open early to late. Very helpful staff. Bedrooms are comfortable with all the usual features. Breakfast is very good with plenty of choice. Only two downsides. Firstly the lack of a residents lounge - yes you can use the bar area but that is less than cosy. Secondly although the hotel offers dinner on Weekdays the limited menu is set for the month and frankly the choice is poor. With a bit of thought the hotel could become a destination for meals for locals and guests. The pubs offering good food well cooked were rammed so at this time of the year there is plenty of demand. Special shout out for the reception staff. Friendly and helpful with great knowledge of what the area offered the visitor.

This hotel is part of the Best Western Group and is a lovely hotel with free parking. However when you book request a room at the back of the hotel as it is beside the busy A390 from Liskeard and there is not much reprieve from traffic noise if you are in the front as we were. The hotel was clean and the food very good. We stayed 2 nights and booked an evening meal both nights which was excellent, although not many people eating there in the evenings or drinking in the bar so lacked ambience. Breakfast time there were more people and the breakfast was good.

From the minute we arrived we loved the hotel. We immediately booked an extra night. Nothing was too much trouble. Every member of the team was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable with no problems at all. Service at the bar was great. We even had a cream tea with scones made in the hotel- lovely. Breakfast was a delight, plenty of choice on the continental and hot food cooked to order. Next time we go to Cornwall we will stay again.

Fowey Valley is a friendly, welcoming, warm and comfortable hotel. We stay here probably four or five times a year. The staff are down to earth and friendly and go out of their way to chat to you. Breakfast is fantastic. There's a lovely swimming pool but the weather was not on our side to actually experience it.

Late booking due to a change in my travel plans. This hotel is at the heart of a lovely busy little town with countryside/riverside walks a couple of minutes away from the front door. Plenty of parking. The staff are very amenable and keen to help. My room was warm, comfortable, clean and well-equipped. Conflicting signage and information about the use of a swimming pool, but as I was staying for only one night on this occasion, it was moot. I would stay here again.

Stayed for two nights in pet friendly room. Room, staff, food excellent and really enjoyed our stay. We are already looking at returning for another stay as good location. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was excellent and lots of choice. We didn't use the restaurant as was out doing heligan lights. Great location to travel around the area. We had our two Labradors with us and nothing was a problem and could take them to the bar area to have our meals.

We had a wonderful and spacious dog friendly room set in a block of 5 just away from reception,ideal for letting her out in the night.Very friendly and welcoming,nothing too much trouble.Superb breakfast and dinner choices,well cooked and presented.Tasteful and spacious hotel .Loved it .If I could rate higher than 10 , I would.Also most comfortable bed ever .

Just returned home from our second visit to this hotel and as usual it was faultless. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean and all staff are both courteous and helpful. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and again found the food to be well presented and of good quality. Breakfast offers a wide variety of both hot & cold foods so there is something for everyone. We look forward to returning in the spring.

This hotel has greatly improved over the years, and was a big pleasant surprise . Rooms were great, the restaurant and menu was amazing, I highly recommended the scallops. The staff were so friendly and helpful.

This hotel had me pleasantly surprised, I often stay away and usually have no input of where I lay my head but with this booking it filled me with a sense of calm, I highly recommend this place, whether it's for a short stay over or even just to experience the food. Saying that, you can tell a lot about a chiefs cooking by whether you need to add any additional seasoning when the plate lands in front of you and I can safely say no shakers were touched! The staff from check in to check out where fantastic.

We're staying 2 nights here at the hotel.. Staff are super friendly.. Nothing is too much.. . Room we have No 4 is lovely.. lots of natural light. Power shower.. Nice bed.. decent coffee and tea Breaky was amazing.. and lovely staff.. mother and daughter working together and they were so professional.. helpful and nice.. Food was yummy.. Continental was yummy and you can order a cooked breaky too. Will def stay here again :) .

Had a 2 night stay as a present from Granddaughter. Excellent Staff and Hotel. Super Room - very clean, tidy with everything you could wish for. Restaurant Dinner - excellent - great choice on menu and food eaten superb. The whole experience was first class.

I spent two very comfortable nights here. The room and en-suite bathroom were very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Tea, coffee, milk, kettle etc available in the room. Although no housekeeping service for only two nights, put cups, spoons and rubbish bins out by 09.59 a.m. and the cleaning fairies do indeed do the chores. Very pleasantly situation and easy to find. Lovely walks as well as being on a main room to go where you want by car. Lostwithiel also has a railway station. Good cafes and eateries if you don't want to use the hotel restaurant. Staff were all first class. I didn't have the breakfast, so no comment here. The evening menu could benefit from more light meal variety. Room had good heating availability; hot water was actually hot. Delightful, white, fluffy towels with proper bath sheet size included. In-house soaps and hand lotion available. Note: the swimming pool is seasonal, not open all year. It does look very attractive, and I was disappointed not to be able to use it. Plenty of parking that was safe.

Wow! What a lovely hotel. The room was just lovely. Clean and to a high spec. I think what makes this hotel special is its staff who were incredibly well trained, polite and friendly. The food in the restaurant was delicious. Well cooked with a varied menu. Parking was abundant and the hotel itself is in a beautiful location.

There is absolutely nothing about this hotel that is nothing but excellent. Easy parking and check in. Lovely and peaceful , beautiful spotless room, Fabulous breakfast in a lovely dining area. The hotel was cosy and warm, The bed was so comfy with snow white sheets. Very quiet at night, so a good night`s sleep was had. The bathroom had a lovely big shower, and the water was always hot. All of the staff were very pleasant, very courteous and polite. I have already told my family how lovely it was and some hope to visit next year The Fowey Valley and we hope one day to return The evening meal was gorgeous ,The Royal Oak pub nearby sold RATLER CIDER We have stayed in many Best Western hotels, and each and everyone has been excellent Thanks again for a lovely stay

This hotel has to be one of the cleanest hotels we have stayed in. We stayed in one of the dog friendly triple rooms. A nice gesture was the box left for the dog with treats in and places to visit with your dog. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good. Food was of high standard and service was excellent. Breakfast in the morning was good with plenty of choice. The staff at this hotel are very attentive and polite. We will certainly be staying again and recommending to our friends and family.

Me and my partner have just spent 3 really good days here and will be back next time we are in Cornwall. Jane and her team are brilliant and happy to help any time, the servers bryony, lucky and luca were all very friendly and attentative. Thank you all for a fantastic stay!

I stayed here on a Groupon voucher so it was extremely good value. A slightly older clientele but very clean lovely food I had a room upgrade which I was very pleased with plenty of space in the room and great facilities in the room. Dining was excellent and suited all needs and options.

We've just returned from a week's stay and had the best time in this hotel. Upon arrival we were upgraded into The Hayloft, a beautifully spacious room with kitchen area, spare bedroom and a lovely bathroom. Our room also led onto a terrace which we could make full use of due to the exceptional weather we had. Everything you could possibly want was provided in the rooms and the tvs were new, a good size and easy to use with freeview provided. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble. Very good, spacious restaurant and the food is some of the best we've experienced during our many stays in hotels over the years. Good and varied menu choices and ample portions. We will definitely be returning.

Upon checking in we met lovely manager Jane that share lots of local tips for us to visit! The rooms is spacious facing the garden with valley view. Comfortable bed with all the rooms amenities available to use, nice big fluffy towels with spacious bathroom with shower. They look nice, clean & newly refurbished but can improve on the hot shower water pressure! There are 2 carpark available for guests with easy access to the hotel. Breakfast is great with continental buffet and cook to order hot breakfast!! Service staff is very prompt and efficient so food are replenished quickly! Freshly prepared hot breakfast is sumptuous and delicious! All the staff we met are friendly and helpful throughout our stay! Keep up the good work and we recommend this lovely little gem to everyone and for sure will visit again soon

This has to be the best experience we have had for a very long time, we often stay in the area at local hostelries but realise that in future we shall book to stay here Both the telephone call was a very pleasant experience ensuring my Wife's dietary needs were covered and an appropriate room that we could have our Dalmatian with us, followed by our check in experience was as efficient and friendly when we arrived I had booked the use of their EV charger for our car as well giving us peace of mind we had sufficient battery life to continue our journey They in the dog friendly rooms have a box dedicated to your dog, towel beach guides and much more. The food was very palatable at dinner with gluten / fat free dit met, any breakfast was superb as well very nice to have many choices On check out we were signed up for the Best Western loyalty card most kind as we shall prioritise this as a go to brand in future Thank you all for your kindness and warm welcome, along with avery comfortable nights stay

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights early October. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the rooms were clean and well maintained. At check in we added breakfast to our booking and in comparison to the room rate this was expensive , having gone up 50% per head in the last 12 months. Next time we will include this when we book and get the reduced rate, which is normally offered on arrival.

Great little break away with our dog again. Service was wonderful as usual, nothing is too much trouble! Massive thank you to Jane for the big fan, coming to my rescue with the flushes!! This really is a gem of a hotel, very highly recommended. Thank you once again.

I have visited this hotel many times over the years and it is currently the best it's ever been. Friendly, comfortable, clean and amiable. The staff are informative, patient and the whole set up is welcoming and comfortable

Fantastic staff, good location for exploring Cornwall. Room was clean and functional. Restaurant had a good choice at both breakfast and in the evening. Bar also had a good choice of drinks. (In particular, the "Offshore" lager is very tasty). Both areas very clean and tidy

Friendly staff, good food, picnic area, 2 car parks and a nice heated outdoor pool. We stayed here with our dog and he was allowed to accompany us everywhere apart from the dining area. He even got to chill out on a sun lounger by the pool! The room was very clean, spacious, and the shower pressure was excellent. There was a mini fridge in the room (we stayed at a different BW hotel previously and there wasn't one there. Useful to know if you have to keep your dogs food chilled). We dined in one evening and my husband had the pork medallions. He is still talking about how good they were and it's been almost a month! The town itself is small but pretty, there are a few restaurants and independent shops, nice walk by the river just a couple of minutes from the hotel. We're already planning to visit again next summer!

Rooms really clean. Staff are all friendly. Food is amazing and breakfast is very nice. Defiantly will be visiting again and joining the rewards. Went for a quick family visit and location in lovley. Didn't use the swimming pool but I will when I return with the children.

Have visited this Hotel on numerous occasions over the years, originally The Restormel Hotel with its local Castle connection. On this occasion it was our wedding anniversary and the the thing that stands out every time here is the staff. Their attitude to customer service and general freindlyness is a credit to the management, wife mentioned on checking in it was our anniversary and at the evening meal the reserved table was dressed with a congratulatory banner.Little things like this make all the difference,they really do. The Hotel is ideally located for visiting local attractions including the Eden Project. You can start the day with a lovely breakfast of your choosing, and don't forget your evening meal here as the food is fresh, well prepared and served with pride.

The hotel knew I was proposing to my girlfriend whilst i was here and they had put flower petals on the bed in the shape of a heart and Jane did all she could, to ensure our needs were romantically met

Can't fault it really staff were welcoming and accommodating. Let me utilise the lounge whilst I waited to check in. Took my needs in to consideration with regards to work and sleep. The food although a little pricey was absolutely beautiful and worth it! Didn't use the pool but looked nice. Room with all required amenities

i booked this hotel for me and my family for our trip and we were so glad for choosing this hotel it was very clean and nice hotel with excellent modern rooms plus the staff were super friendly.Cleaners would come every morning to clean the rooms and were super friendly as well to us.all people in hotel were friendly as well.out of all hotels i have stayed before this one was the best one i've been in.Totally recommend it and would love to come again.

Booked 2 rooms for a family wedding. Rooms were vastly different, one room was tiny, barely get round room, other was massive with 3 beds, yet paid same price?? Receptionist was abrupt and unhelpful Breakfast was ok, quality of food need's improving

Stayed here for one night in June. You could easily drive by and not notice it, but once you do, and step inside, you realise what a special little place it is. We were allocated room 27, which was perfect - it had everything we needed, was spotlessly clean, and overlooked the the outdoor pool. I took the opportunity to have a quick swim, and it was lovely. The breakfast in the morning was delicious- particularly the (amazing) smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! All the staff were friendly, professional and helpful. We hope to return again soon.

A hotel with excellent facilities and staff. Caters for families, children and dogs which is unusual. Excellent food but you need to be hungry as the portions are huge. Good base to travel out to a different place each day

Family shortstay vacation Are pet friendly really nice hotel. Good location with plenty of parking and easy access to the main roads and beaches. The car park had plenty of spaces and was ideally situated behind hotel where you could keep an eye on your vehicle depending on where your room situated. The pool was clean and attended to every day and was in full sunlight. The restaurant was nicely laid out the staff were really friendly and the food was really good. I noticed that there were awards won for the breakfast and I have to say it did not disappoint. The food was fresh and cooked to order and the choice was excellent. The choice actually catered for all dietary requirements. Beautiful little town of Lostwithiel.

Another fantastic stay. Having stayed here several times now, it was lovely to see the refresh on the rooms. We stayed in one of the courtyard rooms and although they were nice before, they are really fab now. Special thanks to Jane and the other Lady (sorry not sure of name!!) managing things during our stay - they work like Trojans and some guests are not that appreciative! Also a special mention to Bryanie who did a fab job at breakfast especially with a group of difficult people. Can't wait to return in October

We really enjoyed our stay at Fowey Valley and would happily return. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and the hotel itself is small, clean and well kept. It is not a 'luxury' hotel, but we felt it was excellent value for money particularly given that it has a pool which we used everyday, and good cooked or continental breakfasts. We stayed as a couple with a 7 year old in a triple room which had a double and single bed, a small fridge as well as the usual kettle and tea/coffees. We had a good evening meal at the hotel restaurant. Lostwithiel itself is a good base to explore north and south Cornwall as it has good road (and rail) connections. The town itself is pretty, and has interesting antique/gift shops, a few pubs and restaurants and a co-op for groceries. If you can face a steep walk, Lantic Bay to the west of Polruen on the south coast is spectacular.

Memorable stay as a result of fabulous welcome from Jane and Treena and great service in the bar from Bryony. This hotel feels like a home from home. Quality bed linen, clean facilities and free parking all made the stay comfy and trouble free. Our only complaint was the number of contractors leaving in the early hours, but this was more about lack of consideration for other residents and not caused by hotel staff.

Lostwithiel is ideally situated on many routes and allowed me to travel all over Cornwall. The hotel was comfortable and convenient. The staff were the true highlight. I have stayed at many hotels and very few have had the overwhelmingly friendly staff that this place had. I rarely visit any place twice but this place would be one I considerex.

WOW WOW and WOW!! An absolutely remarkable hotel perfect location in all aspects, perfect staff, nice food, clean rooms, dog friendly and a special mention to Jane the duty manager thank you your professionalism, kindness, organisation, compassion and general interest in your guests is second to none you are a legend!! Even though the heater on the pool had broke I didn't care as everything else at the hotel was perfect and we were pre warned about the pool before booking on our arrival and to be fair the days we did go to the pool the weather was really nice and hot so having a dip was refreshingly good. We arrived in Cornwall on the 27th July and was originally booked into the Cornwall hotel and spa (please read my review on Cornwall hotel and spa) which was the stuff of nightmares due to The Cornwall Hotel and Spa duty manager and staffs poor attitude but that's enough about them as I say read my previous review. However the staff and our stay at Best Western Fowey Valley Hotel really turned it around for us and we had one of our best ever getaways to date so thank you so much Best Western Fowey Valley Hotel team and hopefully we will see you again next year!!

Lovely 3 night stay. Exterior looks rather dull, but the rooms are nice, modern & clean with decent solid furniture. Lots of parking! Receptionist very warm & welcoming. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Thought the restaurant was a bit pricey but realised was on a par with the surrounding area. Pool small but nice for a quick dip - sadly issue with pool heating, due to be fixed next week but appreciate unavoidable by management! Still had a swim each day. Really enjoyed our break & will visit again I'm sure!

Booked last minute, at 6pm For the evening. Lovely lady at reception offered the last suit available. Such pleasant surprise. Newly refurbished suit with fully stocked kitchenette, separate room with double size bunk bed and own private terrace with gorgeous views. Very comfortable stay and will definitely be staying here again.excellent location from beach and 6 minutes to Eden project. Heated pool and my son loved it.plenty parking on site .10/10 for cleanliness as well.

Comfortable, clean guest room with excellent en suite shower facilities. Pleasing decor with a good quality bed, kettle/beverages, television, ironing board and iron. A well equipped room. The dining room is elegant and the breakfast menu with something for everyone, including a substantial Full English Breakfast as opposed to a great Continental breakfast choice. The swimming pool is immaculate and the staff very obliging. Be prepared to carry your luggage up two flights of stone steps to Reception if you use the overflow car park. If you want to avoid this there is a small car park to the rear which gives easier access into the hotel which is open 24hrs (the front door of the hotel closes at ten and needs a card key). The swimming pool (Max 1.1 m) looks clean and well maintained.

This was a last minute booking due to a flight cancellation to France. Our stay at the hotel made up for our disappointment as the staff are friendly and helpful. We had most of our evening meals at the hotel as the food was so good expertly prepared by Head Chef Maisie Clarke. We really enjoyed using the really warm outdoor pool (its like swimming in a bath, would love to use it in the winter as it is open all year round) after a day of walking or sightseeing. The hotel is an excellent base for seeing beautiful Cornwall. The Eden Project just 4 miles away and Fowey 6 miles away. We enjoyed some scenic coastal walks around Fowey plus a chilly dip at Readymoney Cove, a very small and popular beach so it will be very busy at peak times . We would be happy to return to the hotel and visit the places we didnt have time to see during our stay.

We had a fabulous 2 night stay and room 14 overlooked the swimming pool which was a bonus. Comfortable clean rooms with hairdryer, iron and ironing board as well as the usual tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of choice both hot and cold. All the staff were very professional, friendly and welcoming and I'll definitely be back.

We stayed for 8 nights and had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The hotel has a lovely warm outside pool which was ideal to relax in either before or after touring the area each day. The breakfast menu was very varied and pleasant, and the one evening meal we had was also very nice. Room was very warm but there was a fan available. Lostwithiel itself has quite a few cafes and pubs, and the surrounding area is full of interesting places to go. All staff at the hotel were very friendly

Unassuming from the outside, hidden gem of a hotel. Room was spacious, comfortable with double aspect windows with good views over town and hills. Breakfast was amazing, from continental/full English plus many other options (smoked haddock to die for) , evening menu varied choice of great tasting meals well presented. The pool is heated to about 30 degrees with towels supplied. . Friendly and helpful staff, special mention to Briony and Jane but everyone was lovely and we even got to meet Barney. Great recommendations on where to visit. Fabulous break, we will be coming back :-)

The outside of the hotel doesn't do it justice. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious and plentiful. The Manager was friendly, approachable and happy to share tips on where to go and what to do in the area. We stayed in The Hayloft and it was immaculate. We'll definately be going back

The staff and food were very good. We were greeted by a helpful and friendly receptionist. We had both breakfast and evening meal on both nights and the food and service were excellent. a safe and clean environment.

Just returned from our mini break in Cornwall. We initially chose the hotel because it has an EV charger & the location seemed great for exploring nearby attractions. The charger worked fine for overnight charging & although it wasn't free the charge was very reasonable. Be aware that there is only 1 3.5 Kw charging point & you need to book this at the reception, i guess this would get busy during high season stays. The hotel was freshly decorated & spotlessly clean, very good 1st impression ;). We stayed in room on the 2nd floor overlooking the rear garden with very nice views of the surrounding countryside. The room was very spacious & well appointed with mini fridge & nice bathroom with a very good shower & large bath big enough for 2. We had our dog with us & all of the staff made us feel very welcome . The restaurant food was excellent to, much better than usual pub food. We made use of the outside pool even though it was raining, the temperature was over 30 degrees & very refreshing. All the staff were very friendly & we got some great walking tips from the receptionist. OVERALL EXCELLENT !!! We will return !!

Driving through Lostwithiel, you could easily miss this unassuming hotel but we have just returned from a really lovely 5 day stay at the Best western Fowey Valley hotel. All the staff were helpful and friendly and we were given an upgrade to a very spacious room on the top floor. The room had only recently been renovated and had new carpets and a new bathroom.

We stay at this hotel quite often visiting family nearby. The standard is always first class. The room was clean, large, and very well equipped. The staff were as friendly and helpful as ever. Great selection and well cooked breakfast. Restaurant for dinner was good. We will be returning.

Hotel was clean and staff friendly. Room 7 in back got very hot at night I understand due to pool being heated. Convenient location to coast for day trips. Easy walk down to river area. Not sure why I need to do 200 characters.

A very nice friendly well run hotel that I have been staying at for many years both when I was travelling on business and since I have retired. The hotel is suitable for business travellers, couples and families alike, it has an outdoor pool, bar facilities and is situated in the lovely quiet town of Lostwithiel. So handy for visiting many places in Cornwall

We stayed at Fowey Valley for a 3 night minimoon, my husband and I, our 8 month baby and our dog. We had one of their dog friendly rooms. There was plenty of space for the 4 of us, including the travel cot for baby and dog bed. The room was clean and functional, and the bed comfortable. Although the room was on the ground fllor with rooms above and in near the road there was virtually no noise and we had a good nights sleep. The outdoor pool was lovely and warm, and we were able to swim on 2 mornings. The staff were more than happy to remove the pool cover when asked. The breakfast staff were amazing, they had a highchair ready for us with a cushion after the first day. There's no dogs allowed in the main resturant, they are allowed in the bar area where you can eat your breakfast if you take your dog (the hotel offered but we declined). For dogs the hotel provides a welcome pack including a water bowl, mat, towel, treats and poo bags.

We stayed in The Hayloft; it was beautifully decorated with a balcony. Staff were friendly and helpfull (especially Barbara,Bryony and Lauren) and food was tasty (we stayed B&B). Hotel was clean. Owner Simon was friendly, approachable and informative.Lostwithiel is small but friendly. Overall this was a lovely stay and we'll definately come back.

A year on we return to a hotel that is a diamond in a bland setting. No ground floor room for us this time. But the very helpful and welcoming receptionist found us an alternative room to that we had booked that only featured one short flight of stairs. Now that is going the 'extra mile' ! Room was again very clean and presentable, as well as spacious. Each morning started well with an excellent breakfast with a good choice of menu. A special mention to the young lady on the serving staff who as well as being pleasantly attentive gave us a timely warning about not visiting somewhere so helping us avoid a bad trip. Thank you. Can still highly recommend this hotel. Just be wary of the Gran Prix A390 running past as it seems full of the Fast and The Furious !

Simply stunning two-night stay! This hotel is very dog friendly, all the staff absolutely love dogs. The dog friendly rooms are beautiful, very clean and are set in little courtyard. There is a doggy welcome box which has a large towel, brush, a feeding bowl (just one, so you need to bring another) Doggy treats and information on dog friendly beaches etc. I would say our stay was perfect, from very high-quality food to attention to detail to small added extras. We had an evening meal on the first night, we sat in the bar area so we could have our dog with us. Dogs are allowed everywhere in the hotel except the restaurant, but like us you can have your meals in the bar with your dog. Breakfast was varied with anything from cereal, croissants, fruit, yogurts to fully cooked, and everything was quality. There is a heated outside pool which was very clean, and a lovely garden area too. All the staff were so friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much. Thank you so much to Jane on reception, Bryony and Barbara who served our food, and to the owners Simon and Trina. Absolutely wonderful service. Just to conclude, this was probably the best hotel we have stayed at for quality and service……Stunning and highly recommended, we will be back!!

The rooms were quite spacious with comfortable beds, reasonable storage and decent bathrooms. We were there in summer when it was very hot and the one drawdown was the lack of air conditioning. Although there were fans in the room, it was still incredibly hot. Staff at reception were incredibly friendly and helpful and anticipated our requirements without us even having to ask. The restaurant is quite large and there was plenty of choice at breakfast that was served to our table efficiently. We did have dinner at the hotel one evening and the quality wasn't as good as you might get elsewhere. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool with a few chairs around it - its not a particularly attractive pol but it is fine for swimming in. There is plenty of parking on site. Be ware of the fact that there are lots of steps and no lift so the hotel is probably not great for push chairs or disabled people. Overall, very good value for money and very friendly.

We only stayed one night so didn't have time to use the well shielded heated outdoor pool which is a surprise in fairly unknown Lostwithiel. Parking available but bit of a walk/climb to most rooms. Ideal position for a base for the area or for travelling further down Cornwall. Well equipped rooms

Hotel was very good room comfortable staff very pleasant. Breakfast excellent choice. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool too. Price reasonable £84.50 for twin room plus £19 for breakfast and we were upgraded to family room with double and single.

We were really impressed with this hotel. The room was comfortable, the wifi worked, parking was close. The breakfast was excellent and the warm outdoor pool a joy. It's very central for visiting places of interest in the area. The only disappointment was the evening meal which was limited in choice and a bit mundane. We will certainly stay again when we visit Cornwall.

We stayed for 2 nights and the hotel was a great find. All the staff were excellent and very helpful. The breakfast was great, tempted me have 2! It is very dog friendly and he was welcome. I've booked family room with bunk beds for Kids which was a good fun for them. Swimming pool was a nice thing to have as an extra (Especially that water is heated). Unfortunately our room's windows were out for main road which was very busy even at night time.

Most pleasant welcome by the staff as soon as I walked in, the room was very clean and very airy . The bathroom was of a high standard and also very clean and tidy , a range of complimentary toiletries was available and also the tea and coffee making facilities

Having had a place in Fowey for 12 years, I was no stranger to the area but had not spent so much time in lovely Lostwithiel. The hotel was spotless, the welcome warm and the breakfast was just what every beach cleaner needs to sustain them. Health and safety protocols were in effect both with the room cleaning and in the breakfast room. Plenty of parking allocated and the shops are 5 mins easy walk. A perfect base from which explore Fowey Valley and surrounds.

Had a great experience, lovely box for the dogs when we arrived with treats and a list of dog friendly beaches which was perfect and thoughtful. Wasn't expecting much from the heated pool but it was bliss! Actually warm and we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The room was spotless as was the rest of the hotel. We were very impressed to find a doggy box in the room with extras for dogs including a bowl, towel and even some treats. We have not taken our dog away before and were delighted to find that he was made welcome, which made it very easy for us. An added bonus is the amazing outdoor heated pool, it was great to swim in (but hard to get out of as it was a chilly day!!) Thanks to everyone at the Fowey Valley hotel for making our weekend so enjoyable.

The manager Bryony was amazing! She was professional and so friendly! She showed genuine interest in us and our visit to Cornwall. All of the staff are top rate, but she stood out to us! We stayed in a pet approved room, but had none. The room was clean and odor free!

We read the reviews before we went and the Best Western Fowey Valley did not disappoint! We booked one of the pet rooms so we could take our dog with us. It opened straight out on to the courtyard so we could walk our dog first thing in the morning without disturbing anyone. A large plastic box awaited us containing a towel, treats, poo bags and a list of dog friendly beaches.

Excellent hotel in a really quiet location. From the main road, the rooms are at the back of the hotel and really quiet with no road noise, just the sound of the robin in the tree opposite. Staff were all really friendly and welcoming. Great choice at breakfast and great Covid protocols. Swimming pool is a lovely added extra for the summer. Really loved the quirky hotel information in the rooms.

Although not much kerb appeal once inside we were greeted by a lovely warm atmosphere and a very friendly staff. Room was very comfortable. Food was very good quality and portions of good proportion. All in all a very good stay. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wishing to travel to this part of the world

Dogs are welcome, treats, bowl and towel supplied for your pooch, just be aware that the dog rooms are separated from the main building which is good BUT! there is a flight of stairs up to reception and dining room bit of a problem especially if it's raining.

We had a 3 night stay with our dog. The Hotel was very welcoming to us and the dog, there were bowls, treats and a towel ready on the room. We found the room well equipped and comfortable. We ate in the bar as we had the dog which was as comfortable as many restaurants we've eaten in. The food was simple but tasty and the cooked breakfasts excellent. We will be back (all 3 of us)

This was a birthday gift via a Groupon deal. The hotel is within walking distance to the small village of Lostwithiel. Plenty of on site parking, the rooms were very comfortable and finished to a high standard including the bathrooms. The hotel had ample facilities, a bar, lounge area and a small snug with free books to read. There was also a fabulous outdoor pool which we could have used as it was lovely and warm. Full English breakfast was included, but other options were available. The staff were extremely friendly, and nothing was too much trouble, especially Bryony in the restaurant. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay, we will definitely return.

I am not going to beat about the bush here. Quite frankly, lockdowns notwithstanding, my recent stay was one of the best experiences in a very long time. I could write endlessly about my stay but I leave it to you to check it out. However I will say that the pinnacle of my stay was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

Spending four nights at the Fowey Valley Best Western Hotel is the best way to unwind and enjoy true Cornish hospitality. The rooms are always clean and well decorated. This is only surpassed by the staff who make you feel as part of the family on each and every visit. This is the best way to relax and be truly pampered at a family hotel.

Ok, the hotel £66 room only, but advertised offers for £60 B&B, I mentioned to reception, but this was dismissed. Bedroom isn't awful, but pillows are dreadful, if your over 5'9 your going to struggle with length of bed. Room was red hot, no A/C windows partially open. Drinks are pricey, but maybe not significantly more than other hotels. Great memories of the hotel and restaurant, but the restaurant now looks like a cafe. I guess if you need basic at a reasonable price then it is what it is, if you want something a bit more, forget it.

When we go away, we like to stay in a nice comfortable hotel with good facilities and The Fowey Valley hits every nail on the head. Spacious rooms, spotlessly clean, dog friendly, well appointed, plenty of tea and coffee, a large TV and even bowls etc for your dog. The staff are excellent and always helpful. Cant fault them in any way. A credit to the hotel. Booking in and checking out was easy as well. You can check in online too. We ate both nights in the restaurant and the food is well priced and good value.. and really tasty too. Breakfast, although currently pre-order, was on point and delicious. I really enjoyed the smoked haddock and rather excellent poached eggs. The cooked full english is really good too. Theres also a good selection of cereals, breads, fruit, juices and other niceties. Lostwithiel is a great place to visit with plenty of dog walking and lots of history. Simon and his staff really make this a great place to stay. Looking forward to our next visit. Second stay and highly recommend. Very warm, friendly, professional staff and good management. Hotel room fine, newly decorated with nice bathroom. Good food and service in restaurant, Outside pool a bonus especially for children. In centre of town, shops, pubs, restaurants and railway station all nearby. Without exception, all the staff are exceptional, responding to queries quickly, professionally and in friendly manner.

We stayed at the Best Western Fowey Valley last night whilst passing through Cornwall on a driving trip (Performance Cars UK). There was a large group of us but this wasn't an issue for Simon and his wonderful team of staff. Everything was perfect. The rooms were lovely. Warm, comfortable and modern. Parking wasn't an issue, there are plenty of on site spaces (there were around 20 cars in our group). The food was delicious and cooked to order. It was all very well organised too. The heated outdoor pool was a welcome treat for some members of the group. I honestly can't fault this hotel at all. I've never been anywhere with such an attentive, hands on owner. Every staff member was friendly and welcoming. They really go above and beyond here. We loved it so much that myself and my husband have booked a return visit with our dog for around Christmas time.

A lovely warm welcome when you arrive at the hotel. This hotel has dog friendly rooms, adjacent to the main building, and dogs are allowed in the bar area. The room was very clean and comfortable with Tea & Coffee making facilities. We selected the bed & breakfast option, the food was lovely and set us up for the day. The hotel staff are fantastic, Briony, James and Joe were very attentive at serving breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff are so friendly. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the surrounding areas and the village has local amenities including a coop store. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning

We staryed in a triple room with two dogs. The room, including a large modern bathroom, was imaculate; there wasn't a slightest sign that someone else stayed in the room with their dogs before us. Coffe/tea-making facilities are always welcome, and there were two food/water bowls, a big towel, pooh bags and a bag of bisucuits for our boys provided by the hotel. There is a car park right next to the triple-room building, and a street leading to the town centre and the quay. It was very quiet during the night. Otherwise, my Collie would've stayed up, reacting to the unfamiliar noise, all night. We were told that dogs were allowed in the bar area, but because we weren't sure how our 10-month-old pup would behave around other people in a strange place, we decided to have breakfast in our room. The staff was happy with that request. The English full breakfast was very nice. Apparently, many people call this hotel 'a little gem'. I can see why now. I would recommned it to everybody.

My husband and I stayed here for one night as we were visiting The Eden Project. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and went out of there way to ensure our stay was perfect. We booked room only however we chose to have an evening meal as they accommodated for gluten free. The food and service was excellent, unfortunately the only gf pudding option was ice cream which I did not fancy so the kitchen made up a fruit salad bowl and offered me that and a yogurt and charged minimal for it! Lovely comfortable stay, would definitely recommend a visit.

Lovely Hotel which we used as a base for exploring the area. The staff were all absolutely lovely and the breakfast was amazing, good quality food and as much of it as you wanted. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and we were lucky enough to have a free upgrade also. Would highly recommend this Hotel.

Had stayed 2 times before & recommended to German friends Mum & daughter travelling thru Cornwall. This was pre Covid & recent stay seen further moderations, accommodation with our dog - who had her welcome box again. East/nice walk pre breakfast to walk dog who could then join us in the bar/lounge area set up for us. Easy on site parking faciility which compared to many other hotels - limits for space! We will be staying again :-)

This is the third or fourth time we have stayed at this lovely hotel, which says it all really. Lovely helpful and friendly staff plus a warm and spotlessly clean room and a delicious relaxing breakfast both mornings. Lots of choices for cooked breakfast and a great selection of buffet items too. Outdoor pool was open today and heated to 30° I wish I'd taken my swimsuit. Thank you.

My family and I were very impressed with how Best Western made us and our beloved dogs so welcome, they even included welcome pack for our pets, containing doggy treats, bowls for use , as well as a towel, poo bags, and a great guide for walks.

Although part of the Best Western chain, the Fowey Valley hotel is an old-fashioned (in a good sense) family-run hotel, offering a very warm welcome tailored to individual guests. From the moment we placed our booking, every contact was friendly, helpful and professional. Little touches such as the welcome pack for pets; advice on where to eat out and which beaches to take the dog to, and flagging up of potential issues, such as finding somewhere to eat on New Year's Eve, made all the difference to our stay. The breakfasts were superb, too: we tried the full veggie; smoked salmon scrambled eggs, and smoked haddock and poached egg - all served promptly by the efficient and charming breakfast manager. We also had dinner in the hotel twice, both of which were great quality and good value. The room was clean and comfortable, thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. Covid protocols meant we felt safe at all times. Lostwithiel is a charming small town, full of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes, with fascinating history and scenic walks from the doorstep. It's also in a great location to explore Cornwall, in easy reach of so many beauty spots and attractions. Given that we booked using Tesco reward vouchers, we couldn't believe our luck staying in such a great hotel. All in all, hugely recommended, and we will return!

First visit with our pet, so we were a little apprehensive! We needn't have worried, the three of us were made very welcome. Even a box containing essential pet needs! Comfortable room, nice breakfast and very pleasant staff!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you. We all had a wonderful night's stay and the hotel is just lovely and all the staff super. The Christmassy feel was spot on and the service was amazing. My Mum said that it was lovely to escape Covid bad news for a while, you managed to balance beautifully the need to adhere to Covid guidelines without it being intrusive - we felt safe and on holiday. Thank you for balancing that so wonderfully. We shall be back - of and the extra details for the dogs - well what can I say. Wilbur loved his dog treats!

Stayed at Fowey Valley, Best Western for 3 nights whilst visiting friends in the area. From the moment my friends and I arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. My friends room even had a welcome box for their dog. Breakfast was fantastic, served hot by masked waiting staff. There were sanitiser points throughout the hotel and these were observed to be being used. Staff were wearing covid masks at appropriate times and this encouraged guests to do likewise. Guest rooms and public areas were spotlessly clean and housekeeping did not tidy guest rooms (unless staying for more than 5 nights). Arrangements had been put in place to refresh tea and coffee supplies, mugs etc and this was welcome. The Cornish cream tea was great value and must be tried whether you put the jam or cream on first is a debate that my friends could not settle. Wishing the hotel and all those working there a great future in these unsettling times.

Spiders in ladies wash room, next to the bar room. Shower door fell off, which made me anxious. Had to wait outside dinning room untill somebody seen us waiting. Should have had a bell for quick service. Overall staff polite.

Really great stay. Great food, great team of people and super dog friendly. Lovely place to stay and the staff couldn't of done any more they were exceptional. Room was very clean and spacious. Will definitely return soon.

Friendly staff, made to feel welcome. Good value for money and dog friendly. Our room was clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. We were on a bed breakfast and evening meal deal, good value and good food! We enjoyed the town lovely walk down by the river and interesting independent shops.

We have been using this hotel now for many years. This visit visit was as enjoyable as ever. The rooms are always warm, clean and of good size. The staff, from those at reception to the housekeepers and those servicing the dining facilities, are always cheerful, helpful and friendly. The fact that the hotel has an electric charging point is very helpful and the geographical area in which it is situated is also of great use.

I stayed with my sister for a weekend trip. On arrival we were greeted as if we mattered and nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and clean and had an excellent shower. All of the staff were brilliant from reception, the waiters and waitresses in the dining room to the cleaners we felt really looked after and respected.

if you want a hotel break with your dog in Cornwall you MUST stay here! the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is fantastic a more dog friendly hotel would be hard to find dogs are allowed to sit with their owners in the bar and the dog friendly rooms come equipped with bowls, treats and towels-they are also on the ground floor adjacent to the main building we cant wait to return next year!

Many places say they're dog friendly when they are at best tolerant, but this hotel is mad about dogs! Doggy welcome packs, bowls, towels. Also owners have full breakfast and dinner options in the bar with their dogs. Every member of staff was genuinely interested in out pup and it became very apparent they all had dogs at home. Little known fact: the owner of this hotel owns a fairly large food distribution company and it shows in the quality of the food. Everything is cooked in the kitchen and it shows. If you have a dog and like food then you really should stay here.

We arrived in pouring rain and exterior of hotel seemed unattractive. However, staff were welcoming and everything in room very comfortable and clean. We were pleasantly surprised at quality for price paid.

Very nice Hotel and services with good staff. Food was very good. Excellent breakfast choices. Excellent room facilities with biscuits, friuts, beverages including a fridge. Restaurant menu could be improved with a lot better/more choices.

Extremely helpful staff, comfy beds, lovely shower and bathroom facilities and excellent breakfast choices. The location is great for practically anywhere including Liskeard, Looe and Polperro where the pubs and food are all excellent.

On approach to the front of the hotel you are slightly underwhelmed. Once parked it open up rather like a tardis! This is not a luxury hotel, but it nore than makes up for this, in the warmness of the hotel staff, who go out of their way to make you feel at home. They are lovely. The hotel.itself has all you would need, the restaurant wifi and the pool. Lostwithiel makes a good base for a holiday, as the location has lots to do locally, and should you travel you can get practically anywhere in Cornwall in good time. Wonderful!

Every single member of staff was cheerful, pleasant and friendly. They made our stay even more enjoyable. Our room was convenient, spacious and warm, and the kettle with ample supply of tea and coffee was very welcome. The attention to detail in making the facilities as Covid-secure as possible was admirable. Lostwithiel is an interesting base for a Cornwall visit, and the hotel is very conveniently placed. We shall certainly want to stay there again.

It looks like they are overhauling the rooms my single room looked fresh was very clean with a comfy bed nice hot shower & well stocked with a fan iron & hair dryer the wifi was more than fast enough with no connection problems at all the reception & lobby area was very clean & well presented with a pleasant lady to greet you on check overall a pleasant stay & more than happy to stay again I did baulk at the breakfast with a price of £14 & they do say they're not wetherspoons but I've never paid that much for a breakfast in my life & I've had some banging breakfasts for a lot less money

Despite a very small unassuming frontage this is a lovely hotel with extensive grounds. Recent redecorated to a high standard the rooms were lovely. Very good breakfast. Very helpful staff. Interesting town with some lovely walks. Would definitely go back

A very very well run hotel. All staff were friendly warm and professional. We had room 9 a deluxe room which was excellent.Good size. Comfy king size bed excellent power shower nice decor perfectly clean .. cant fault it at all. The heated outdoor pool a real treat . This hotel offers fantastic value for money for a two or three night stay with good access point to other parts of Gornal from the A38... thank you all

Staff likeable, professional and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant good, both food and service. Rooms comfortable, well furnished, The large bathroom towels a luxury. Plenty of car parking spaces. Hotel centrally located near shops, pubs, restaurants and Railway Station. Good value.

Lovely friendly and welcoming staff Clean and well looked after facilities. Nice little outdoor heated pool. Comfortable rooms (although a bit tight for two adults and a child). Nice food in the restaurant but more then 1 vegan option (burger) would be good.

Stayed here for 3 nights last year, loved it so stayed for 6 nights this year and could easily have stayed longer as we felt so much at home and comfortable. As Best Western members we had the 3 nights for the price of 2 package which included breakfast and was very good value. Such great attentive staff from the 3 ladies on reception who always had a word on passing, to the busy restaurant staff and off course the room maids who were so accommodating with any needs that we had. A different room from last year but still so clean and fresh. Breakfast was very plentiful and the self serve buffet was running again which proved a great idea being able to choose something such as fruit salad or cereal before having a cooked dish. We even had 3 evening meals this year as found searching out restaurants for evening meals which had to be booked a right pain. All very nicely cooked and very enjoyable. I am sure this will not be our last stay as miss it already!

What a lovely hotel! We arrived without any hassle on this Monday (13 September 2021) and checked out with the same ease on the Thursday (16th) The staff couldn't have done enough for us, and were so lovely and polite, especially Bryony, who works most early shifts in the restaurants. The breakfast was lovely and cooked to perfection each morning, and the dinner was so filling and just as tasty. The room itself was fully equipped with teas, coffees, and everything you need for a basic getaway. The shower and bath was lovely, location was central for everything, and we've had an absolutely lovely time. Will definitely be back again next year, booking through them, and not booking.com this time! :)

We needed somewhere to stay after dropping our son at Falmouth Uni. We picked here because it was an hour from Falmouth and on our way home with reasonable costs for the area and good reviews. We weren't disappointed as it's great value for money. Our room (4) was dual aspect with a view of the pool on one side and just a path/car park on the other. The bathroom was bright and modern and well appointed. They may need to look at drainage as both shower and sink drained very slowly. Shower was very powerful. Big fluffy soft towels. The room had plenty of drawers and hanging space for a short stay and was quiet. Room doors do slam noisily but not sure if this could even be rectified. If you are in the area on a Sunday evening in particular be wary not much is open. You can book into hotel restaurant but think this closes by 8.30pm and is prebook only. Local pub we were sat in closed at 9pm. There is free parking at rear for guests. And finally the staff are very friendly and helpful. Such a warm welcome when we arrived. Couldn't do enough for us. We would stay again if in the area. Discounted (10%) accommodation if you book via Best Western direct and join their Rewards scheme.

Great location. About 20 minutes from A30. Also very well located to take trips to many places/attractions nearby all about 30 minutes drive. For example Polperro, Looe, Lost gardens of Heligan, Eden project, Bodmin (Lanhydrock national trust). Comfortable and spacious rooms.

The staff were extremely welcoming. Everywhere was extremely clean. The room was amazing and their attention to detail was amazing. Had a lovely swim in their swimming pool too. Would definitely stay here again!!!

Not the best appearance from the roadside, but well up to the expected BW standards of service. The free outdoor heated pool with towels was a nice bonus; & breakfasts were exactly as expected, & excellent.

Booked last minute (10 days in advance) due to a sudden bereavement in order to attend the funeral. Having a journey of 5-6 hours decided to tag a few extra days on the end during the bank holiday and can honestly say we only booked as this was literally the only hotel in Cornwall still with a room and as a bonus also had good reviews so was willing to take it with a pinch of salt and put up and shut up! Now I've travelled the world quite a bit and stayed in 2 to 5+ star hotels but I'm struggling to find fault here! We were greeted by Jane (she's amazing) on a late arrival (thanks M5), taken through all the covid info, booked breakfast for the next morning and shown to our room. Now I'm not going to say it's the Ritz, it's not! But the room was adequate (a squish with 3 adults who packed the kitchen sink) but it was spotless (even smelt clean but not medicinal/bleach) and had everything we needed. FYI, tv, iron, ironing board, alarm, fan, tea/coffee facilities, soap, shower gel/shampoo. We would have benefited from a fridge but that's something we're used to having in America so we didn't expect. Room servicing is limited due to covid but leave anything outside your door and ‘the fairies' remove or replace, and it's fast! Any issues are sorted by reception quickly. The pool is small but a welcome bonus, heated and we made use of it. (Pool towels are supplied) Breakfast was delicious, cooked is prebooked the evening before, full, fish, vegi or vegan plus continental which included croissants, toast, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, muffins, juice and tea or coffee. The young men serving at the beginning of our stay were much better than the ladies at the end (sorry, there just seemed too much hanging around) The hotel is in a peaceful location, yet close to link roads but although pleasant and we enjoyed its location we struggled food wise as the hotel had to be prebooked and the local eateries ran on Cornish time (sometimes open) , a joke we called ish o'clock. FYI bellamama deli never opened our whole stay. It's a local coop for anything and everything that seemed to run out of everything from bread to tonic water! One night we just ordered a domino's to be delivered, we wanted to support local but it's just impossible! Parking can be frustrating at times, there seems just enough spaces (no spares) as there's a top car park and an overflow but no disabled. A couple of times we struggled due to inconsiderate or incapable drivers in oversized vans taking 2 spaces or just making other spaces inaccessible! Not the hotels fault! Would we return - definately! A great example of a Best western, a great hotel, great staff, great location, so clean and very covid safe. Really cannot fault and even though we had an upsetting reason to visit and a tough couple of days we had an enjoyable few days break that was very unexpected. My only petty gripe would be the pillows, they are super flat and hard but I should have known better as usually pack my own! Keep up the great work, you should be very proud of what you achieve every day.

The hotel was clean. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The location was central for us. There was a train station just a couple of minutes away from the hotel. The only down side was the room was too hot, so it was difficult to sleep, even though there was a fan in the bedroom.

We can't recommend Fowey valley Hotel enough. The staff are all wonderful, extremely helpful and polite. The hotel was spotless in all areas and the bedroom and beds very comfortable. We stayed 10 nights and ate our evening meal in the restaurant 6 of them. The food was to a very high standard and delicious. Breakfast was also very nice with a choice of continental and cooked options. The heated outdoors pool was a lovely addition to our stay and we used it every day after returning from our days out, our daughter loved it. The hotel is in beautiful lostwithiel which is a gem with a few pubs, 2 Indian restaurants, a Chinese takeaway and fish and chip shop. The antique shops and gifts shops are definatey worth a look as is the local museum. We loved white lights gift shop and cafe for coffee and cake. The hotel is ideally located for a lot of must sees in cornwall. During our stay here we went to the Eden project, restormel Castle, ducy of Cornwall nursery, bodmin jail, fowey for kayaking, Golitha Falls, mevagissey, Newquay surfing, Jamaica inn, Polperro, polkerris Beach, charlestown and the shipwreck museum, tintagel and port issac and several walks along the coastal path to secluded beaches. Lantic Bay being a favourite. All these places were within a 45 minute or less drive of the hotel. All in all, it was an amazing holiday to Cornwall and we will certainly return to this hotel!

Didn't look much from the outside on arrival but absolutely fantastic hotel. Rooms were clean, staff were phenomenally polite, helpful and courteous. Food was excellent on every occasion, loads for breakfast and a wide range of options. Dinner was fantastic. Pool was not the biggest but certainly did its job and never seemed crowded. Special thanks to Trina, who was fantastic from arrival and throughout the week with my 9 yr old son, will definitely head back there soon and couldn't recommend highly enough.

Made a return visit, the comfortable and happy atmosphere has not changed. Room a little small but clean and all working. Excellent food in the restaurant, especially the dinner steak option. Very helpful staff throughout. I will gladly return.

What a fantastic hotel. We have just spent a very enjoyable 10 days here as a family. After a friendly greeting from Jane who could not be more helpful, we settled into our rooms, both clean rooms were and modern. The pool was warm and had a variety of hoops and floats for the children. Dinner was superb and great value for money and the breakfast served by Summer and the team was delicious again excellent value for money. With a vast variety of activities including the Eden Project, beaches, Restormel Castle, Bodmin Jail and Goliath's Falls all within a short drive it was the perfect base. The village of Lostwithiel was also lovely and we enjoyed swimming in the river here. We will definitely be returning.

Behind an unassuming façade is the pleasant surprise of a warmly functional hotel that exudes an air of quality. Our ensuite room on the ground floor ( yay no stairs ! ) was large, very clean and very presentable. With an enormous bed ensuring perfect sleep as this room at the back was commendably quiet. Breakfast was excellent and the evening meals superb. While the staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. There is even a outdoor pool for those with more time than us to enjoy. The hotel is ideally situated for reaching all that Cornwall has to offer. Really deserves the highest recommendation.

Stayed again here in a superior room overlooking the car park and garden. bottles of water in room and apple to share, good tea and coffee making facilities and excellent shower. Evening dinner was very good. Ideal place to explore the surrounding area. Only criticisms were the room was to hot even though weather not good when we stayed and bar no longer sells real ale.

Booked this hotel at the last minute as our original holiday we booked canceled on us. We where very surprised we could book at such short notice. We arrived at the hotel on 2nd of August for a four night stay the hotel was clean and the staff very friendly. We booked for bed and breakfast but as we arrived later than expected we decided to see if we could book evening meal the staff booked us in no problem and the food was lovley for breakfast and evening meals. The hotel has a pool which was clean and open from 7am till 9pm great for an early morning swim. I will definitely book this hotel again when we are next visiting Cornwall, and will recommend to family and friends.

We have just came back from our stay here. The staff were really helpful, friendly and welcoming. Thanks for a lovely experience. The breakfast was great. A wide choice to choose from. The only negative was the family room was a little bit small but other than this our stay here was great. Everything is a short drive. Eden project is only 10 minutes away. Most beaches only 20-30 minutes away. Lovely Chinese nearby, Wonderful bakery selling pastries around the corner (Nelly's) . Overall great stay!

What can I say? We found ourselves in a potential homeless situation after a leak at home and luckily our insurance put us here for a week. What a fabulous, friendly, kind and helpful team you have here. Our room was immaculate, covid restrictions dealt with perfectly, lovely staff who we feel now are more friends as we run Andy's Antiques just down the road so despite not still in our wonderful room 36, we still see all the cheery staff. The doggies enjoyed their stay so much they now detour to go in the hotel!! Simon, the manager was especially kind to us knowing the predicament we were in, the reception staff all helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food service and food, special mentions to Bryony and Barbara - Barney and Scrumpy miss their morning cuddles! The pool is lovely, I went in it most days and once you get in it did feel warm. Lovely to relax in there with the sunshine - wish we were still there but it's looking like a potential second stay in September!

I wonder if 'sachdevnamrata' stayed in the same hotel! The place was spotless and I am fussy!! The decor wash fresh and well maintained. Staff were all very helpful. They rearranged the lobby bar and restaurant for the Euro final. No air con in the rooms but they have fans and the iron was a quality appliance. Bed was very comfortable as well. I too asked for a bath and received it. Small things that make a difference! We ate once in the restaurant and it was very nice. They have a sun drenched grassed area with picnic tables and the pool area also was nice, only issue was the pool was very cold. Not sure it was heated as advertised? We didn't try breakfast as we felt £14 each was a bit pricey. Location is great for exploring the coastal areas and the local village had a couple of good bars and restaurants (Sunny was our favourite) and a riverside walk and seating area. There ate two takeaways. The Fish shop was very popular. We tried the Cinese but was very greasy and a dirty building. Thers is areasonably priced Co-Op where many went for drinks and snacks and sat on the riverside. There is also a bakery next to the Co-op which is a couple of minutes walk away and sorted us for breakfast. If i visited again I would be inclined to stay inthe apartment so as to have a fridge and be able to eat and drink on a private patio. Drinks in the bar are more expensive than the Pub so we only had a late drink on our return. If you want a quiet location in a small, friendly accomdating 'home from home' this is the place!

Clean hotel but don't be fooled by the photos, it's very dated hotel. Nice big car park for you to park the car. Nice little town with a co-op 5 min walk from the hotel. Lovely pool outside. Hope you have a nice stay

We stayed in the new apartment ‘Hayloft' and it really is fabulous. Great for a family. They have done a great job it is done to a high spec. The outdoor terrace is fab and really safe for little ones. All the staff we met were polite and friendly always speaking if they just walked past in the hall. We only stayed one night and would stay longer.

Stayed here for 5 nights,we had room number 30 which was a good size,large bathroom although toilet seat kept coming loose.Good location for visiting all different beaches.Breakfast a little overpriced.Big shout out to Simon who told us the best places to go.Would stay again.

Perfect hotel in every way. The staff are very friendly and Covid guidelines are in place. Had to order cooked breakfast day before but cereals, toast etc is ordered when you go in for breakfast. The room and bathroom were very clean, there is no room service during your stay but more towels and loo roll can be asked for at reception. Car parking is at the front and back of the hotel and can get very busy later in the evening but we always found a space somewhere. Centrally located for everything our family wanted to go and visit. All in all super hotel, friendly staff and centrally located. And would recommend to anyone wanting to go to that part of Cornwall.

My wife and I have stayed at quite a few Best Western Hotels but our stay at this hotel was very disappointing. Being disabled there is no provision for parking and the main car park was always full and we were directed to an overflow car park further down the hill which entailed climbing two flights of stairs which I found very challenging.When we spoke to reception about the lack of disabled parking we were told the council wll not allow it. the other problem was the lack of air contitioning which on a very humid night made it very uncomfortabe,we did find a fan in the cupboard which we kept on all night.All round, quite an unpleasant experience

The room was okay but rather dated and shabby compared to the nice bright photos when booking. It is right on a busy road, (as in 5m outside the window!) and as it's warm with no air conditioning (we visited in June), we had the windows open and there is pretty much constant noise from cars/motorbikes going past. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, which is a good bonus and which the kids enjoyed, although it's not particularly warm so the kids were shivering after about 20 minutes and as there are no changing facilities, I had to walk back to my room in my swimming costume through the bar area where people were sat down having a drink, which was rather undignified! On the plus side, the room was big, the beds were comfy, the parking is free and there's a lovely cafe around the corner for breakfast. Situated about a 20-30 minute drive from Fowey, Looe and Polperro. All in all, it was an ok stay and we argued e being able to explore the coast and towns, but felt it was rather overpriced.

Highly recommend this Best Western property - facilities all clean - rooms spotless, staff couldn't be more helpful. We stayed in room 32 and it's a big one - lots of room and recently refurbished. Nice bathroom, looked new. The pool is a bonus and you can get food and drinks outside if you want to sit and relax by the pool. We used the restaurant for breakfast and special shout out for lovely Bryony and Babs who looked after our table. On our second to last day we met the owner and his partner, both lovely people and you can see they set the standards for the rest of the staff. Would definitely stay here again, recommended.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May on our first holiday away for several months. As a first time traveller to Cornwall we wanted something fairly central so we could use it as a base for different areas. The hotel is in Lostwithiel which was perfect for us. We didn't want to be directly in one of the tourist spots, so this ticked the box. We were fortunate enough to be able to book the newly created Hayloft, and very glad we did too. An apartment at the top of the hotel with its own balcony, separate room for the kids and spacious living/kitchenette area. It was very clear the owners had spent a good deal of cash on this room, everything finished to a very high standard. It was the perfect base for our 4 night stay. The outdoor pool is a lovely addition to the hotel with our 9 year old making good use of this one afternoon. The terrific weather meant this was possible. Heated, clean and with plenty of seats. As comes with the times, breakfast required pre booking the night before with hot food orders pre ordered too. Not a problem at all. In fact, you're given a WhatsApp number when checking in meaning we could book things whilst out and about. Very responsive and very easy. Breakfast itself was great. Excellent full English and continental options. Other hotels have cut breakfasts back in these Covid times, but other than booking in advance, everything was normal. Staff here are great too. The owner spoke with us for quite some time, providing recommendations on where to visit. Charlestown was one and proved a hit with all of us. Mussels from a fish and chip van overlooking the water....yum! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend here. Accommodation, staff, parking, food, pool...all excellent. If you're in a larger group or feel like splashing out, go for the Hayloft, it's definitely worth it. I really hope we'll be able to make a trip back in the near future.

Right up there as one of the very best short breaks we have been on...and we go on a lot! The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Our room was spotlessly clean. Despite such a difficult year, and having only just reopened after the lockdowns, the staff have adapted really well to the new way of doing things. Beautiful part of the country, with lots to see and do locally....in the countryside and on the coast. Food was delicious, although the evening menu was a little restricted due to C19, (that is my one and only very slight criticism). Will definitely be returning to stay here....even though we only live 45 miles away, and could easily visit the area on a day trip. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff.

Perfectly based for exploring Cornwall - Easy to get about . Nice little hotel - perfectly acceptable in light of current restricions. Staff really friendly .Rooms clean No concerns - very Covid safe .

It was nice but the top bunk in the kids room a safety hazard because the bar was only as tall as the mattress and someone could have fallen off. But the room was beautiful and had really cool mood lighting. We had a family room called the hayloft which had a balcony and a mini kitchen.We loved it and definitely would go back in the summer.

We stayed a few weeks ago having booked the apartment for two nights and we were delighted with the whole experience. The welcome was great, really friendly and efficient on reception, Covid procedures explained and breakfast times chosen and food ordered. The room was stunning; a huge room with super king bed, sofa, kitchenette, private balcony and then, through a door, a separate room with double bunk beds! So many touches for the little ones, their own TV and they each had LED lighting for their beds with controllers! The kitchenette was also great, with everything you could need for a few days away and simple to use equipment. Breakfast each morning was super-efficient. we arrived at the time booked, our food was delivered promptly and was delicious. As they had this timing system in place, there was loads of space between tables and it felt really safe. The children even managed a swim on the pool. Would definitely recommend.

Do not be fooled by the outside of this hotel; staff could not do enough to help; room was very clean, well presented and equipped; food was good quality and enjoyable. One felt confident in the current climate that all steps had been taken to keep all guests as safe as possible (all staff wore masks at all times). Well located for town and local attractions. The best recommendation I can give is we would return. Finally good value for money.

Stayed here for two nights with friends from 23.10.20. cannot find anything at fault! Good food, spotlessly clean, looked as though it had been newly decorated. The staff were great! Even the bell in reception was smiling!! (Emoji logo!) Would have no qualms in booking here again, and will do so in 2021. All social distancing measures were in place and observed. Very comfortable hotel, can't wait for a revisit! Thanks to everyone who made our stay a very nice one!

Small dinner party of 6 celebrating a birthday. Nice friendly greeting at reception on arrival, Excellent Covid 19 precautions in place . Waitresses delightful, Food delicious & plenty of it. We had a good mixture of meals, 1 had Salmon Steak, ‘ exquisite' , 2 of us had Chicken & mushroom roulade, with little side dishes of Dauphinois potatoes & perfectly cooked tiny veggies. Mmmm, delicious Barbecue Chicken ‘Lovely' Chicken so tender it melted in the mouth, opted not to have Barbecue sauce, generous portion of chips & side salad. 2 had the Beefburger's . Generous portion, tasty & Burgers nice & juicy, delicious ‘proper' chips & tasty mixed leaves salad. Definitely will eat here again. Service 10/10 Menu 8/10, would have liked a bit more choice.

We stayed here for 3 nights, rooms very comfortable, breakfast very good. The Hotel is very clean and hygiene rules were strict and adhered to by all guests. Would definitely stay here again. The position of the hotel is good for a visit to Fowey. There are also some good restaurants nearby. The Royal oak was very good and there is an Indian restaurant near the Co-Op that is excellent.

Having stayed at this hotel previously a couple of years ago and enjoyed a very good experience it was only natural that we return. It was great again. Thank you, and thank you for making us so Covid safe

Just come back today after staying 3 nights 18/10 to 21/10/2020. Staff so friendly and helpful especially the receptionist. lovely clean hotel but the only gripe we had is we didn't sleep well as the mattress is so uncomfortable and the cooked breakfast was fresh but the sausages were vile and the bacon was really salty. The evening meals were out of this world, well presented and tasted beautiful. We won't go back unless they change the mattresses maybe Hypnos ones would be good. The photo i've uploaded was the Chicken Roulade absolutely beautiful we also had a plough mans lunch which was equally as nice.

Very nice spacious room. Spotlessly clean with a super power shower. It was dog friendly room and we were surprised to find bowls, towels and a tray for the dog. A nice touch. The food was excellent and the service very good from start to finish. If you're looking for a super hotel in the Lostwithiel / Fowey area, look no further.

Great welcome - really warm & friendly. Felt very safe during our stay. Location of hotel is central to the small village of Lostwithiel (charming for a little walk round). Parking free and good, no lift but only 1 flight of easy stairs. Restaurant food good, but with limited menu based on current climate. Service great. We had the family room with a separate bunk room for the kids, all very well arranged when we arrived. There is some noise transfer from the stairs and corridor but with two kids we gave as good as we got back I'm sure! Has a nice little outdoor pool, although we didn't have time to use that as we were too busy visiting all the local sights of which there are many - the Eden project being just 15-20 minutes away. Didn't think too much of the food in the local pubs but a great coffee shop on the corner just next to the hotel. Overall a great base, clean and welcoming, recommended.

We only stayed for 1 night at this hotel. The hotel is in a great location, free car parking and a good restaurant for food. The hotel is central so you can explorethe town and drive around locally. The restaurant does value for money food and the staff are really friendly.

Fay wife and I enjoyed a very good and happy week at The Best Western, Fowey. Good accommodation, staff and food. We shall certainly return in the future. An ideal centre for walking, touring Cornwall and relaxing.

Decided to take my partner away for his birthday and found this hotel on Groupon. What an absolute gem! Jane welcomed us like old friends even though it was our 1st visit and was happy to accommodate my cafe intolerance even though I'd not mentioned it on booking. The room and bathroom were both clean and spacious and having a mini fridge was a definite bonus. We had dinner twice in the restaurant and was very impressed both times. The staff were very efficient and worked incredibly hard to keep covid safe too. I won't hesitate to rebook next year.

We have just spent 4 nights at the Fowey Valley Hotel.Being vulnerable,we were worried if we would feel safe enough.We didn't need to be concerned. From the moment we checked in, we realised that everything was going to be fine. Plenty of sanitiser every where, mask reminders & excellent planning in the restaurant for social distancing. Meals had to be booked in advance for both breakfast & dinner.Service for breakfast was a little regimented but I understand the reasons. Dinner was excellent not a huge menu but the choices were good & well served & cooked. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & were impressed with everything.

We wanted a hotel near the south coast of Cornwall and the Best Western was ideally situated. After a 270 mile drive I decided not to drive the following day and as the railway station was a five minute walk away it was decided to use the train which goes down to Penzance. I've stopped in better Best Western hotels but this was adequate for our needs. We tried booking a double room but they were all taken so we opted for a family room even though there were only two of us. The food was excellent but the bar didn't have a great choice. Rules for COVID-19 were strictly adhered too I'm glad to say. The staff were pleasant and efficient, though sometimes under pressure ie on Sunday afternoon when only one person was available to look after the bar and reception. We were lucky with the weather at this time of year ( Late September) and the outdoor swimming pool was still open. Overall a pleasant hotel in a nice village which had three pubs and a number of quant shops.

Have to admit hotel has not much kerb appeal but don't judge a book by it's cover. Arrived early so after checking with reception, left car in car park to browse around pretty Lostwithiel. Checked in by super friendly Jane to an upgraded room. Room proved to be very nice, very clean and well cared for. Slept well although bed a bit creaky. Nice bathroom - shower only. Massive fluffy bath towels - gorgeous! Breakfast pre ordered from reception the night before. Had choice of eating in room, dining room or in garden. Very nice as well with Covid 19 precautions observed. Rooms not serviced - only for 5 nights stay but happy to leave bagged rubbish and dirty mugs outside room for replenishing. Replacements towels available as well - just ask. In fact they are happy to help in any way. Here for 3 nights taking advantage of the 3 nights for price of 2 including breakfast available to BW members. Lostwithiel turned out to be a very nice place to stay with the train station on hand to various destinations plus others easy to reach by car such as Restormel Castle. Very good value and enjoyed our stay very much. Would love to stay for longer.

Nice hotel. Nice people. Rooms really good (we had a newly renovated room). Lots of stairs. We had to carry our own luggage to our room, so was quite difficult with all the stairs but understandable with the current covid-19 requirements. Parking is free.

The hotel was very central to local attractions, Lost Gardens and Eden Project. Bonus of having a railway station enable us to make trips to Penzance, St Ives and Looe. Lovely local walks, pubs, restaurants and shops. Hotel staff very helpful and Friendly. Lovely having a heated outdoor pool Decoration a bit dated but clean

Stayed here for 3 nights, mainly to visit the Eden Project. The hotel is well located for visiting local places in Cornwall. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were 25 & 26 in the annexe and were clean and comfortable with a nice view. We loved the towels, very thick and big, think they were the best we'd ever had in a hotel! We felt everything we needed was in our room including an iron, ironing board and a fan. The bathroom was a good size as well. I did use the outdoor pool once, but felt it was a bit cold and could maybe do with someone just clearing out the debris. The breakfast had to be ordered the evening before due to the current situation, which really wasn't a problem. We had a good choice and the breakfasts were very tasty. We enjoyed having a drink in the bar and ate in the restaurant on one evening. We all said that our meals were excellent. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

The Fowey Valley gives a more traditional English hotel stay. Friendly effective service in these Covid times. Breakfast was good quality and served promptly at the booked timeslot in the pleasant well spaced dining room. Enjoyed a swim in the outdoor pool though the pool surround is a bit tough on the feet. There are many stairs in this higgledy piggledy topsy of a hotel that has grown from the village inn. Lostwithiel is an antidote to the packed coastal spots of Fowey and Charlestown which are nearby. Enjoyed our 3 nights.

Just returned from Lostwithiel. This hotel is the ideal base for travelling round Cornwall. During our stay we caught a train to Plymouth and travelled by car to Fowey, Looe, St Austell, Bodmin, Polperro, Mevagissey and Padstow. All within an hours travelling. Due to COVID-19, there were the obvious restrictions within the hotel, but the staff were friendly and helpful; the food was excellent (breakfast was tasty and the evening meal that we had there was also very good). All in all a pleasant weekend was had by all and if and when we return to Cornwall, this will be the hotel of choice.

Well really pleased with my choice to come here with my husband for 3 nights. Loads of small antique shops, 3 pubs, fish and chips shop, co op, bakers indian, chinese,pizza in this quaint village l. Theres a church and Tudor bridge. The hotel is good quality, friendly ,clean and great value. Also there is a outside pool open until Oct, I used it this September. Breakfast is nice good quality, staff are welcoming and friendly, there is also free parking. It's pretty central so 6 miles from eden project, 26 ish miles from newquay zoo etc. I We would recommend and stay again Thank you fowey valley best western hotel x.

We stayed in a courtyard room, pet friendly, with our Beagle ‘Remi', the room was excellent and well appointed. Wifi was good throughout the Hotel. Staff were all very accommodating and provided an excellent service throughout our 3 night stay. Covid prepared Hotel, well executed in all aspects. The food was excellent and pre booking a time made the service very fast, just to our liking. Location is very good for touring many places in the area, including the Eden Project and many beaches/walking. Bonus for us was the availability of an electric charging point, which we were not aware of when booking. Would highly recommend this Hotel ,we will be back, sometime.....

we had great help and advice from jane on front desk,were to go and places to visit. so we went to charlestown(poldark) mevagissey,and edan project.all worth a visit and very nearby. the rooms were clean and shower full blast.restaurant was very good with good choice and very good food.bar area was relaxing.all staff were very friendly and efficient.excellent value for money.

Very clean, good parking. Outside of hotel leaves a lot to be desired in places. Something of a maze of connecting buildings, some of which are in clear need of loving care. Our first room was to the front of the hotel with a doorway access close by via outside concrete steps to the pool area. The railings were in need of paint as very rusty and the nearby flat roof was a mess of electrical and other cables. Although probably safe it was not pleasing to look at and no attempt had been made to deflect the eye from the somewhat messy area. Our initial room was in a corner (28) and quite hard to access with luggage due to narrow steps from the bar area. It could be reached via the pool area but again via a considerable number of stairs. This room was clean and tidy, however decoration included a hole in the wall (not large but clearly plaster had been knocked off). The toilet seat was very loose - on one occasion it fell off and I had to refix it. The flush handle was also very loose and eventually on our third night the toilet broke completely. Unfortunately it could not be repaired and we were asked to move room. Whilst this was welcomed it involved carrying our luggage down two flights of stairs and then to the other side of the hotel up another flight to the next floor. Unfortunately the offer of help to do this came too late and was perhaps a little of an after thought. The new room was clearly upgraded and recently modernised and far better than the first one. I would note, however, that this room was much noisier than the first one and the neighbours television and movements were very audible. The lady manager offered a bottle of Prosecco to us by way of apology as she was aware it was our wedding anniversary, a very kind and generous gesture which was much appreciated even though we did not accept it due to driving commitments. The best thing about the hotel were the staff who were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant coped admirably with Covid regulations and the food was very good. The evening meal was well cooked and contained good quality products. Breakfast was hot and served plates from an order the night before. The swimming pool was pleasant, although some tiles were missing and the concrete surround was a bit grubby underfoot. However it was warm and the tables to sit at were a bonus. Definitely a big plus in hot weather. The hotel is clearly trying very hard to offer a good experience to visitors.

Overnight stay with family in Cornwall. Friendly staff at the reception , restaurant, room service, and the pub. Limited restaurant menu due to Covid-19. Not many take always nearby so plan ahead. Rooms are adequate for a overnight stay. Very thoughtful to keep one small table fan for the summer nights. One 7 KWh EV Charging port is available in the overflow parking lot. Easy to coordinate with the other guests to share the port.

I expected some changes to the norm whilst travelling during a pandemic but I didn't expect to have next to no water pressure making showering and even hand washing near impossible. They apologised for the water pressure issues saying it's an old building but there are cheap plumbing solutions and apologies don't cut it! Daily cleaning wasn't being done which I can accept but being told to wash our dirty coffee mugs ourselves in the bathroom basin was unbelievable! They did back down and give us clean cups. Add to that no clean towels or bedding in 5 days, no rubbish removal. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before because of covid (why) and we had to give an exact time we wanted it but then we were offered room services still needed an exact time. I was on holiday not living in a borstal! They did give a refund for the breakfasts we then cancelled but there was no discounts offered for the lack of services. I think this hotel used covid as an excuse for poor service as all the other restaurants in the area had plenty of staff in their kitchens. I wanted a hotel so I didn't have to do anything but we would have been better off in a self catering cottage rather than a cramped room with no services and no way to clean cups etc. On the plus side it was clean with nice white, fluffy towels - not enough for me to go back though.

We stayed at the Fowey Valley in August 2020 Travelling with 12 yr and 15 yr old girls. We had a great week here, the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. If you're looking for luxury this is not your place, however if you are hoping for a clean hotel with excellent service and a good location to see Cornwall this is a good option. We had a family room with a bunk bed and a double bed which were really comfortable. The only problem was the heat which due to no air-con was unbearable at night, however we were provided with fans. The heated outdoor pool was a welcome refresher in the morning though, which I had to myself each day! Lostwithiel itself is quiet but has some nice pubs to eat in, a co op for essential supplies and a lovely stream for the kids to play in in the hot weather. A great holiday here with happy memories made.

We stayed here for two days and on first impression you will perhaps be not to impressed but this is a lovely hotel with lovely staff we must mention Jane and the manager who make we didn't get they could not have been helpful with advice on where to go off We stayed in room 3 which was very nice and our relatives stayed in the newly refurbished room on the second floor and were very pleased with it Breakfast was good if a bit strange due to the civic restrictions Would definitely recommend this hotel

To start I will say that my expectations post lockdown are modest and I am prepared to overlook minor inconveniences in the interest of everyone's health and mental wellbeing. The Fowey Valley Hotel has a lot going for it: set in a lovely village in rolling green countryside with helpful and friendly staff. The hotel is taking government guidelines seriously: the breakfast room was nearly deserted. Staff delivered preordered breakfasts and retreated rapidly into the kitchen - to the point that it was nearly impossible to get anyone's attention. However I would not stay here again. The hotel is really an eyesore from the outside and in need of a renovation. Structurally it is reminiscent of a cheap US motel with paper-thin walls. On the Saturday night we were kept awake by incessantly slamming doors and a full-on domestic dispute in one of the neighbouring rooms. The rooms remained unaccountably warm despite open windows and an outdoor temperature of no more than 21 degrees. My impression overall is one of a low grade travelling rep's hotel (and I have stayed in plenty) with corners being cut in the interest of economy: cheap fittings and breakfast items such as toast and coffee being rationed. A shame in such a pretty village in a touristy area. Not the staff's fault though. Overall I was pleased to move on. If you are travelling through Cornwall there are better options in the same price range.

We visited for 4 nights and had a wonderful welcome by a really lovely reception lady. We had a brand new room which was modern and larger than expected, and although a couple hiccups which can be occasionally expected as the first guests in a brand new room the management and staff were really helpful and accommodating and it didn't actually affect our stay at all, very comfortable and clean. We had a breakfast and evening meal which were tasty, didn't eat here much only due to being out and about in such a great location. We hadn't expected the pool area to be open due to current climate of COVID but was happy it was open as my 3 year old enjoyed her morning swims in the outdoor pool, very attentive staff to open pool as we tended to be up and in the pool at 8am. All staff were helpful and informative and passed on information about facilities or local areas. We would stay here again.

My family and I (x2 adults + x2 children) booked here for our road trip around Cornwall & Devon. We parked in the car park & checked-in, very easy and quick. Spacious, clean, plenty of towels. Had the use of a fan in the room, tea & coffee in the room for the morning plus a fridge which was handy. We decided not to book breakfast, as it was a bit too pricey at £10 per head. Easy check-out. Would come back if we travelled again.

A good stay, food good and a quick swim in the pool. Only downside was an over warm room, otherwise lovely staff, clean room in a nice location. We chose it because it was good value and close to the Eden project, and of course the beautiful Fowey village.

The pool is very unsafe with lots of broken tiles and sharp edges. But the poo, water was clean and not cloudy. The breakfast was a set menu and no buffet. I know it's COVID but sausage, bacon, egg, Tom and beans with a slice of toast and a cup of coffee is not much for the £10 charged. The restaurant again pre booked and despite being on time our food was under a hot plate for a little too long for my liking. The outside needs a lot of love and the fire door that was constantly banging got really annoying

I've just returned home from a fabulous break in Fowey. My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend. Our room was amazing with an extremely comfortable bed, and every facility catered for, with a fridge, ironing board, iron, case stand, tea coffee facilities. The room was immaculate. Also we had a beautiful view.The breakfast we ordered was delivered to our room and was so tasty. The staff were all very helpful especially one of the lady cleaners who was on duty on the ground floor on Friday 24th July, this lady directed us on where to go and who to see at reception. Then later that day we met Jane who was fantastic and really went above and beyond for us with her hosting service! A HUGE THANK YOU TO JANE! I 100% recommended you stay here, and I will definitely be back when I next return to Cornwall, even more so now I know dogs are so welcome here and near enough all the places we visited. Speaking of dogs we met Barney on our checkout a beautiful Golden retriever. Thank you for a lovely stay and again thank you to Jane for everything.

We arrived on the 5th of July to be greeted by the very friendly Jane. They had only just opened up day before so everything was new for them working a new normal. Simon the manager is running a fabulous established safe business and cannot recommend a stay more. You feel safe lots of hand gel. All staff very pleasant and natural. We even bought them a box of chocolates to make them know we felt very welcome and comfortable . Rooms are lovely and very very clean. Room 16 I would highly recommend. This was our third stay there and we will see you again next year. Thanks to all the team.

Stayed for one night (thank god) as a stop over to continue exploring Cornwall. Was very poor compared to where we had stayed the previous week. Free car park about the only good this. No kerb appeal- right on the main road. Unkempt on the outside, tiny outdoor pool (closed due to Covid ??until next April apparently) Friendly enough staff, although unwilling to help with luggage or direct you to rooms. Triple room very dated- looks nothing as shown in hotels photos. Very dated. Comfortable enough bed (for one night!) very small doubles. Would have thought room would have been exceptionally clean due to being probably one of the first guests since March (Covid-19) unfortunately we were SO wrong. Cobwebs in corners of the room and dust. Bath panel made noise in our room all night- Wind getting in underneath from somewhere?! along with hearing everything from the room next door. Bangs from outside and above us until early hours of the morning. Cold tap trickled out whilst hot fired out (dangerous) Bath/shower was not appealing either, including shower curtain. We were happy to be leaving first thing in the morning.

We stayed 20 March - the day government announced all bars & restaurants must close. Staff were already aware the hotel may of had to close due to COVID19 but were still friendly and professional. Food was very good and triple room was nice and comfortable. Top marks for for the fire fighting they were having to do in the face of uncertainty

My partner myself and our four legged companion stayed at this wonderful hotel for 3 nights. Perfectly situated close to so many idyllic locations. The room was first class, comfy bed, tv shower and bath, the bathroom was spotless. Tea and coffee making facilities. The staff were super helpful in helping us connect to the free wifi. Free parking but remember to give the hotel your registration number. We had bed and breakfast and wow what a breakfast it was, please see my images. I cant thank the hotel enough for ensuring our visit was enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel, we had an upgrade to a lovely room with on-suite bathroom. Breakfast cost us £10 for each day and evening meals we had 20% discount. Staff were very helpful and could not do enough for us holidaymakers,

This hotel situated in the town centre of Lostwithiel is in such a fantastic location. Very quiet at night, peaceful even. The hotel staff are very friendly, rooms very clean and the bathrooms very modern with the most luxurious fluffy huge bath tails that I've not had in a hotel for a long while. Plenty of tea, coffee and caramel biscuits also supplied in the rooms. The breakfast menu was great with plenty of selection to cater for just about everyone including veggies and vegans! We tried several varieties during our stay, including smoked haddock, smoked salmon, kippers and of course the good old English fry up! All good and very filling. Lostwithiel is a great place to visit, with it's quant little bridge over the river Fowey, Railway station and level crossing , it also has its own Chippy, Chinese takeaway (both good!) and lots of Antique shops to browse around and is also a great place to get anywhere in Cornwall from. St Austell approx 10minutes. Port Isaac approx 20mins. If you want to go shopping Trago Mills 10 minutes. The Hotel has free parking for residents in two car parks so what more could you ask! I'm hoping that with all of these great reviews we are still able to get a room in this place next time we are allowed out!! Hopefully in the not to distant future.

On first external appearance of Fowey Valley Hotel our heart sank as it looked small and down-at-heel. However, inside the hotel is scruplously clean, the staff a pleasue to deal with, our room very comfortable and the breakfast first rate. The hotel aims for and takes pride in the Best Western comfort and satisfaction of guests. Our room was a fair size, well-decorated, an attractive looking bed, a firm mattress, good sized flat screen, lots of power sockets some with 2 integral USB chargers, excellent table lamps, a small desk and so on. It was not over-furnished. There were excellent tea making facilities with Cornish[?] coffee sachets galore. The bathroom was tastefull decorated and you were provided with ginormous bath sheets - though more shelf space was needed.

We stayed mid-March. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The room and hotel very clean. We ate here on Saturday night and had lamb shank. Very nice. On Sunday we had the carvery which we enjoyed. Plenty of meat and veg. On our 3rd night we went to The Globe inn and enjoyed a meal there. Breakfast was included and was great. Would stay there again if in the area

We stayed here as a couple and were allocated room 23 which is off a side street overlooking the car park. There was very little traffic and the room was quiet and comfortable. We had 2 breakfasts; the first being a buffet affair and the second table service. This was satisfying and filling fare which was an excellent start to the day. When we arrived we were given a 20% off voucher for dinner and drink on that evening. The literature in the room suggested that booking for dinner was advisory but as the hotel was quiet we decided just to turn up at 7pm. There were only 2 other guests dining so we thought that we would be accommodated. Not so. We were informed that 8 diners were due in shortly and that we would have to wait 45 minutes for a table. Not quite sure what the difference is between cooking for 8 or 10 (to include us) but that apparently was not possible. A salutary tale - if you come here please book for dinner! Apart from that mishap we enjoyed our 2 night stay.

The hotel staff were really helpful and friendly. The room was really clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and really tasty. Would definitely recommend. A great case to visit the Eden Project, Mevagissey and Looe. Not too bad a journey to Newquay the other side of the County either.

From the warm welcome, the cosy room, the dog treats and bowls, and lovely breakfast, I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, ok from other reviews the decor is a little dated but so what. They cannot be more dog friendly even allowing you to sit outside of the restaurant with your woofs for breakfast or dinner. Ate in the bar both evenings, lovely steak as well. We will definitely return!!! recommended, give it a go, you won't regret it.

Some decor lovely, some worn (like breakfast room paint peeling off the feeling) very hot, even with windows open and it's winter, red wine wine was fizzy and tasted off. Wet room was nice, enough wardrobe space and a good size room

Booked as had a very good value deal. Friendly and helpful staff. Accommodation clean and comfortable - an unsolicited upgrade to a family room was appreciated ( but does involve some stairs and a short walk outside to the annex). Very convenient location in Lostwithiel - 15 minutes drive to Eden Project , less to Lost gardens of Helligan. 30 mins to Rock and 1hr to the centre of Bodmin moor. Cooked breakfast extensive and certainly sets you up for an active day. An unexpected find.
