Rooms always very clean , housekeeping do an amazing job . Nice and warm , just what you want this time of year . Cannot find fault with the the Best Western , Hillcroft , which is why we keep going back .

Amazing staff, very well run and cant do enough to help you. Recommend for a wedding. Rooms fabulous - I stayed in 22 and it was just perfect for price you pay. Location is handy for both Glasgow and Edinburgh if you are touring the area.

Went for one night on dinner bed and breakfast. The room was small but adequate. The bathroom was fine with a bath and a shower. Tea coffee was provided.but-the beds were not comfortable. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Dinner was lovely and a good choice for Breakfast. I was very impressed that they catered so well for gluten free, Would definitely return.

Nice warm and clean hotel , very comfortable rooms with good internet connection . Bar and Restaurant available . Been staying at this hotel for the last two and half years , its like my second home .

The whole experience was exceptional. The staff, food, rooms and service were exceptional. Will be returning in December. Great value for money. My friend and I stayed overnight we had an amazing time, we enjoyed the ABBA tribute night.

Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff both on the front desk and in the restaurant. Room clean and everything needed for a one night stay. It was very hot but a fan was provided which gave some respite! Breakfast was ok too. Convenient location for Edinburgh airport.

This is a pleasant, clean, modern hotel, situated in a suburban setting just outside the rather sad small town of Whitburn. (Several shops and other buildings in the main drag are boarded up; others had heavy metal grills.) It was convenient and well-priced for a short car ride to Edinburgh airport. I had a good stay, and my wake-up call was on time. I had only two reservations. First, the night when I stayed was - for Scotland - exceptionally warm. There was no air conditioning, and it made for an uncomfortable sleep. However, as I have indicated this would not typically be a problem. Second, I got down to the desk to check out at 5.30 a.m., to meet people coming into Edinburgh airport on an early flight. However, no-one was at the desk, and I could not locate any member of staff anywhere else. I also could not find a way out of the hotel: the main and other doors that I tried were locked, which concerned me in terms of getting to the airport, but also as a fire hazard. The gentleman on duty eventually appeared, and it is my understanding that he was involved in a security patrol. While it is admirable that the hotel is concerned about guests' security, it would seem to me essential that: (a) there is a clear means of communication with staff on duty if they are away from the desk; (b) there are clear directions from the front desk to fire doors which can easily be opened from the insiide by guests. I would not stay here again until I was sure that this issue had been remedied.

The hotel hosted my dad's 90th birthday lunch for 35 people. The room was fantastic. Lots of space, access to the garden and set up just as we had asked for it. The events organiser Andrea was so helpful ahead of time & on the day. She put herself out to help make the afternoon extra special for my dad. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the chargrilled chicken in peppercorn sauce for main and the flavour on the chicken was amazing. Those that had the beef and the salmon dishes really rated those too and same goes for starters and deserts. Compliments to the chef and clean plates all round! Food arrived promptly with friendly service and food nice & hot. We wanted everything to be informal but Andrea and other staff there to help whenever we needed them. Overall great service & experience. Will definitely come back & highly recommend. Thanks everyone for helping make this a really special day for my dad.

Whitburn is a bit out of the way, a wee bit off Junction4 of the M8 but this is a great value hotel, well worth going too. The rooms are furnished very well and include a seating area, fridge and ironing equipment. You also receive a bottle of water and glass per person. Breakfast is very good and can be gluten free. There is a very decent dinner menu in a comfortable dining room but our only complaint is that our dinner waitress was a bit uninterested and wasn't much help. However the acconodation is definitely recommended.

I hadn't heard of this hotel before. I had an early flight from Edinburgh so checked the hotels round there - extortionate. This one is about a 20 minute drive, depending on traffic, and was lovely. Loads of free parking, a nice room and good facilities. I didn't use the bar/restaurant but it was busy so must be good.

The hotel was nice. We arrived on a Friday evening when there was a huge event taking place at the house. Check-in was quick and easy. Rooms were clean just a bit warm. Fortunately, we had a fan in the room. Beds were very comfy. Dinner at the restaurant was ok, nothing fancy but fine for the price. However, staff is in dire need of training. Not one single waitress/waiter was able to smile. They spoke very fast and slurred and we had to wave them to come back for further orders. When we ordered the bill, something went wrong with the card and they just walked away, mumbling something we could not understand. After 10 minutes they still did not get back to us so we had to catch them at the bar in order to clarify what happened. Turned out the card was declined and they did not make any efforts in letting us know. Which left us with a very strange feeling. Breakfast was the same, staff was not able to smile or at least look friendly. It all felt like it was a shame that they had to work. Not sure what the reason is for that as they treated all guests the same way. The next morning we were sitting in the breakfast area with the sun blinding us so we asked them to pull down the blinds but they told us they were just facade. Breakfast buffet was very poor: Kellogs cereal bags (the small ones) 3 bananas, 2 old apples and some grapes.

Being local, I haven't stayed here but we have used it a lot in the past for family events and socialising. Our latest visit was the first for a year as last time it had been disappointing. Nothing has changed, except their menu which is now very poor. Service and staff attitude indicate there are training issues. We were also given the wrong hill which we had to chase the waitress for. Food was mediocre. This hotel has really deteriorated since the new owners took it over. It used to be friendly s as d welcoming but it lacks that personal touch now. I suspect it will be a while before I'm back again.

Attended a family funeral and stayed here for two night, service was great, rooms were clean, new bathroom was installed and the shower was powerful, nothing worse than a limp shower!!! breakfast was ok, recommend booking with best western because the breakfast is complementary, i booked using booking.com and payed an extra £30 for bnb when other family members didn't. A 10-15min trip to Queensferry is worth a shout (small sea side village with amazing views)

Restaurant Service very poor, never came to our table until asked. Food was shockingly bad, we had Christmas dinner and all 3 courses poor. The main course tasted like a microwave turkey dinner and arrived cold at the table. The cheesecake was tasteless. This restaurant has gone severally downhill since the new owners took over. It needs fixing or it's reputation will suffer. So disappointed.

I used this hotel regularly prior to Colin selling it a few years ago. It has went rapidly downhill absolutely terrible. Bar closed at 10 for guests it used to be open all night. Customer service is awful. I must have stayed here 100 nights before it was sold I loved the place but this will likely be my last ever visit sadly. Awful.

The food was awful!!! We will not be back. We had main course then waitress asked if we wanted dessert, we asked to see the menu. 15/20 minutes passed & no one came near. We went to pay for meal & mentioned to waitress that we had asked for menu and she had not brought it to us and she more or less ignored us until I repeated what Id said she then replied ‘oh yeh I think I was asked to do something else instead' no apology!!! Shocking customer service!

Overnight stay as part of our Scottish road trip before heading south to England. Ample car parking available and a lot of locals in the bar area. We booked a superior King room but the room had been made up as a twin. This was rectified by pushing the beds together. The receptionist staff were very approachable and efficient but we found the bar and restaurant staff not very friendly in the evening, although the food was good. The staff member at breakfast was very nice and the breakfast itself was lovely.

Lovely room, great, clean refurbished bathroom, good food, excellent breakfast. What makes this hotel standout is the friendliness of the staff, everyone from Zoe in Reception, through Nicole in Housekeeping, to Pedro at dinner and Tracy at breakfast were friendly and helpful in every way possible Will certainly stay there again when we next go that way.

My wife and I went to this hotel and being local was an easy walk to it. It was our anniversary dinner and had hoped it would go smoothly. Alas the service was disjointed and very slow. The food was a fixed menu of three courses for £17 and for the price was nice enough. We picked the first two courses with us stating we would pick the sweet after the mains to see how we felt etc. We were given a sweet menu and picked two. They again were, after a long wait, where very nice. But on checking the bill noticed they had over charged us by £13 - the price of the two sweets!! Apparently they gave us a different menu for the sweets and expected us to pay for their mistake! We pointed out we had asked for the set meals and it was not our fault they gave us the wrong sweet menu in which to pick from. It was eventually taken off the bill. So just watch out for a similar ploy if visiting

We had lunch here last week it was not a good standard the Ham & Chicken Salad my friend had she couldn't eat the chicken so dried up overcooked the steak pie meat was nice but the pastry a disaster hard and dry I could have cooked myself these meals it was a simple order then the scones came out not edible brick hard maybe chef was off that day The Staff were nice and apologetic but this is not good enough as it's nice surroundings we won't rush back

Have stayed here for over a year durning the week for Business purposes , the staff are friendly and helpful , rooms very clean and a nice bar for a Pint . Would definately recommend to any one considering staying here .

Had a lovely stay - room clean - bed comfy. Staff were all friendly enough but sadly for me the breakfast was a huge let down. It was cold! Not even like warm it was cold! Cold greasy bacon and cold baked beans is not something I want to eat and more so when I'm Paying £10 to do so, I did not complain or send it back as I was with family and it's is embarrassing to have to do so more so when in company - the same items on their plates were also cold but they had a couple more items that were warm and helped disguise the fact although having said that none of us ate the bacon! I'd like to see better practice on serving hot food for people to eat because other than that we enjoyed our stay.

I had an event here which was brilliant from start to finish. The staff, food and everything was perfect. I have rebooked my awards ball for next year. It will be the third time I have used them. The prices are reasonable for my guests and the atmosphere was amazing.

We attended a wedding here a few weeks ago and it was just amazing. We used to be regular guests pre covid and it was great see that it has had a wee face lift. The staff were amazing especially the young girls. It was also great to catch up with Scott who, as usual, did an amazing job. The food was piping hot and very well presented and the bar staff were even able to find me some non alcoholic wine. We will definitely be back.

This used to be a good, family run hotel which was welcoming and served good food. Since it was taken over a few years ago, it has been on the decline. Food is not up to standard. I was served steak pie which had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp and was dried out but because I was at a function organised by someone else I felt I could not complain. The chocolate fudge cake was dry with no cream or sauce. One of our party asked for cream but it never arrived. Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and were poorly organised. One waitress came out the kitchen with three plates of food, went back in, came out again, returned to the kitchen once more then reappeared and didn't seem to know where to go with the plates. Staff clearing tables bent over diners and food, glasses were returned to the bar because they were dirty. A full glass of wine was removed by a waiter without checking if it was wanted. There are clearly staff training issues. It's a pity that this place is in decline.

This was a great place to stay. I was here for a friend's anniversary party. Service and attention to detail and service were excellent. The rooms also were spotlessly clean and well appointed. Price was average for this type of accommodation. Only fly in the ointment was breakfast service it was slow and not particularly friendly.

First class overnight stay here. Rooms spacious , comfortable and clean. Our evening meal was delicious and plentiful couldn't fault it. The filo basket with goats cheese and beetroot was a work of art and so tasty . Breakfast was again excellent and plentiful. Staff were friendly and helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel .

This is pretty good hotel and was very good value. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast is very good and the evening meal is wholesome if not very imaginative. The rooms are small and clean, but starting to look a little tired. However, they are certainly a step up from most budget hotel chains and recommended for a slightly longer visit. Hotel is well placed for the motorway and there are a number of local places worth visiting, such as Linlithgow. Would stay there again and I can recommend it for stopover or few days in the area.

This hotel had everything we needed. It was lovely. The hotel was fresh and clean and the staff were very friendly. I'll definitely be back, in fact we're booking again in two weeks time. I would definitely recommend it

We had a lovely over night stay just my husband and I. We got married here in 2020 so after covid it was so lovely to come back and celebrate. The staff were so friendly & understanding when we had to change our date. We had a 3 course meal which was so fresh, really couldn't fault any of it! Everyone is so happy & friendly. It was so good to return and reminisce over our special day. 10/10

The Hilcroft is an ideal hotel for the Bathgate area, it is spotlessly clean with helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast is exceptional, I would however check to make sure that if there is a wedding or event that you ask for a quiet room when booking.

Stayed a weekend with work and couldn't say enough good things about the food and staff here. The rooms are also great. Just such a good stay. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone. If you are eating In the restaurant I recommend this chilli and salt chips , in our whole stay both times the food has been excellent every time

Popped in on the off chance for lunch. No problem getting a table. Lunch menu was quite extensive. The Bar/Restaurant area is a bit sparse, but the staff were friendly and our order was quickly taken. The food arrived quickly, was piping hot and very tasty. The Hotel is in a great place just off the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Will use for food again when I am in the area.

If visiting the region/area, I would highly recommend you book this BW Western hotel. Absolutely, excellent value for money. Really accommodating staff, very friendly and attentive service. The food was super delicious too. Perfectly placed for visiting Edinburgh and many of Scotland's fabulous tourist attractions. I would not have any hesitation in stopping here again. Thank you :)

Excellent service, lovely rooms, attentive friendly staff. The food was good, received a bottle of wine to enjoy on arrival, the breakfast was also very good. There was a function and our room was a little noisy but we didn't mind, we enjoyed the buzz about the place and we had an excellent sleep regardless. I've stayed in another 5 star Edinburgh Hotel this year and was sorely disappointed. This, however far exceeeded my expectations for the price paid

could not get any better for the budget very happy and would stay again even did me a packed lunch as i did not want breakfast that the company had paid for.All in all very good and very satisfied with my stay.

We had a 2 night stay in room 14 overlooking the garden a comfortable room with a large well appointed bathroom. The room was warm and clean , the staff were friendly and attentive. The food offering was of a good quality with a varied choice even gluten free options were available. All in all a great hotel comfortable and good value for money. Thanks Michael Coates

Spent the night at this hotel with 3 friends. We had a cream tea, 3 course dinner and superb breakfast. Our room was lovely, tea tray and hairdryer. Great bathroom, spotless! Would highly recommend, it was just wonderful . Staff were a delight too. Thank you all x

We had booked this hotel as a stop over to break our journey. The hotel is next to the main road, this wasn't a problem,we slept well,no need to worry about traffic noise. We were on a deal dinner, bed and breakfast which was great value. The meal was really good, I had salmon for main course,and sticky toffee pudding for desert,it was delicious. The hotel had gin of the month,pilgrim gin from St. Andrews, which had a hint of liquorice, I am glad I tried it,although not sure if I could have several as our waiter suggested. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a very good value deal that included afternoon tea, wine and dinner. Friendly staff, a very nice room that was clean and modern. We enjoyed our dinner snd the breakfasts were ENORMOUS!!! However, only giving 3 stars here as we were disappointed by the lack of Covid compliance with face coverings. A workman came to our bedroom to fix something (not reported by us)-no mask. Cleaning staff-no masks. Some restaurant staff-masks round their chin/not worn properly. Guests wandering about-no face coverings. With very high Covid rates in Scotland in the past few weeks, we would have expected more from Best Western and it didn't sit well with us.

We arrived and checked in only to find I had forgotten to bring my booster pillow the reception got straight on it and supplied further pillows... During our first night there were a couple of maintenance issue that when we reported them the following morning the hotel assured us that they would be rectified whilst we were out for the day.... Upon returning to the hotel after a long day in Edinburgh we found that these had not been rectified... A quick visit to reception resolved this they moved us to another room in the hotel that turned out to be the honeymoon suite. They even offered to help us.move our luggage... Breakfast was what you'd expect from a hotel a good choice of serial and continental items and a large cooked breakfast.. Not to mention all The tea and toast The rooms were comfortable and clean the beds extremely comfortable.... Our room was above the bar which was an initial concern regarding potential noise we did not hear a peep from downstairs not even during a fortieth birthday party in the function room.... The hotel is in a great location for either Glasgow or Edinburgh the nearest station being Armadale and an off peak return to Edinburgh is less than a tenner.... I We would definitely rebook this hotel next time we find we are back that way..

It was my daughters birthday. The staff bought her a present. Balloons and banners were put in our room and at our evening meal. They brought her a cake. The most helpful and friendly people. Food was great hotel was lovely. I would definitely go again.

Some meals were quite dry specifically the steak pie. They no longer play background music in the bar/restaurant area therefore on a Friday/Saturday night you are relying on it to be busy as the first sign of no noise it becomes very quiet and all you have in the background is the noise of the waiters preparing the breakfast and tables around you for the hotel guests for the following day. It used to be a place you could go to at the weekend and enjoy a nice drink and there was a good buzz about it with good music but now they no longer play any music it really lacks a good atmosphere. There was one waiter that served us with his mask under his chin the whole time. That won't save you from Covid, and doesn't leave customers with much trust in how they follow any other health and safety practices when "How to wear your mask" is what we've been doing for over a year. The service considering a lot of the staff are the same since being bought over look like they really can't be bothered being there. Lastly what is with the sauce situation? I mean it's better than a waiter coming to you with a spoon and putting it on your plate until you said when like a five year old as they did pre-pandemic however coming with tiny and I mean TINY little portions of sauce ...just bring the bottle it's weird. I'm not saying it's a bad place, still enjoyed it but it's little things that make returning less frequent. I think they are more interested in the Weddings/events more than the bar/restaurant.

Just returned from visit to this hotel used wowcher deal which was for family room breakast high tea and 25pd per adult for food. Staff are amazing kind helpful had a room at front hotel bit noisy because of road but we were fine lots off weddings going on which was lovely so a bit loud till about 11 but did not bother us. I used the hotel as great for both edinburgh 22 miles glasgow about 40 we used park an ride very easy saved paying pounds for parking the staff helped me out with were to go. Breakfast at hotel good ate one time in hotel but not to are taste toby carvier 5 miles away which was great. Room had all we needed abit dated but fine cleaned well fresh towels i would stay again for where it is placed

We had our wedding reception at the Hilcroft on the 17th July We had the best day, all the stress and anxiety was taken off our shoulders the day before by the lovely staff who said they would dress the room for us. It looked amazing. All our guests commented on how tasty the meal was and struggled to finish the rolls at night time because they had enjoyed their food so much. Scott made sure the day ran really smoothly and went without a hitch. We felt really looked after and nothing was a problem for them at all. Thank you so much for a wonderful day

Booked through wowcher, excellent deal, Hotel although on a main road our room was quiet. Room was clean and staff friendly, food wax excellent and the breakfast was amassing. Used the hotel as a cental point to visit the kelpies, Falkirk wheel and Edinburgh zoo.

We arrived at the hotel and received a warm welcome from reception. All the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. Our room was too warm in spite of the fan , we were moved swiftly to another room without any fuss. The food was very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

The main reason we enjoyed our stay was because of the amazing staff they have, extreme friendly and helpful and accommodated our needs, especially when it came to food. The sharing platter and the brioche chicken burger was our favourite and a generous portion too! We opted for the vegetarian cooked breakfast, which was also very good and also gave us a take away cream tea and scones as we didn't get a chance to eat while staying there and the bottle of wine to enjoy at home! We had a family room and beds were really comfy. Drive to Edinburgh is about 45 mins or train in 30 mins, which leaves every half an hour. We took the kids to the Five Sisters Zoo, which is only 20 mins drive from the hotel, the zoo isn't too big but we all enjoyed experience and took us about 2 hours. Please visit the Portobello beach if you have time, we were blessed with great weather and the kids loved the clean sandy beach and the water was so clean- this is definitely our top favourite beach!We will definitely be coming back again.

I stay in the best western through the week as I work locally and all I can I say is it feels like I am at home with the reception staff absolutely brilliant as are the breakfast lassies Good standard of rooms and value for money

Used the Wowcher deal and it was the best deal we've ever used. Will definitely be back. We had a meal in the restaurant, portion sizes were large. Breakfast was fresh and hot. All staff were cheerful

First time staying in a Best Western Hotel and I have to say that the whole experience was exceptional.We took a special deal offered by Wowcher and we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night short break. Good location for visiting local attractions and good public transport links to both Edinburgh and Glasgow. There was some traffic noise as we were in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel but this didn't detract from our experience. Would certainly stay again should we wish to visit the area again

Had my wedding here before moving away, stayed many times over the years when visiting family by myself and with husband snd kids. The staff are so caring and welcoming the rooms are very clean, beds comfortable and if you need anything just ask. The staff are very professional and yet still manage to make it feel homely. Even when I'm visiting the area for a sad occasion it's always a relief to book in at the Hilcroft. Food is good to especially haggis and black pudding Bon Bon's.

Went to bar one o eight which is the restaurant fir a family meal after lockdown. To say I'm disappointed is the best way to describe it. 4 adults and a child. All small portions. Pate had no butter with 2 small triangles of bread. Prawn cocktail was the same regarding bread. Soup was cold. Haggis black pudding was dry no sauce to accompany it Steak pie was dry even after asking for gravy. No pastry on it. The Carrots still has outer layer on.so was returned no replacement. Fish was dry. No chips or veg with it , had ask for portion chips to accompany it. Rack ribs was tiny. No accompaniments with it. Merengue was brick hard as I'd been sitting for long time. Others didn't see anything on the menu. Menu is very basic and dear for what they're sending out. So disappointed as it was supposed to be a reunion of the family. Only thing that was ok was the kids garlic balls and ice cream cone. Kids macaroni was dry. I think they need to be looking at their chefs as I wouldn't comfortably be able to recommend the hilcroft. Staff didn't know what they were doing. Wrong drinks brought out and missed off. Even managed to mix the cola and diet cola up. Had to ask 3 times for menu fir deserts and ended up going abs helping myself. Spoke to manager I believe who was very nice but by this point we just wanted out. Definitely won't be back. Previous menu and old team did a far better job. Explains why it's not getting recommended. ☹️☹️

Staying here at the he moment . Staff very friendly, rooms spotless Only negative having a drink outside in the freezing cold . Personally we would have had a few more drinks outside if the heaters had been on. After all this is Scotland...

In these unusual times staying away from home can be quite daunting, however, the hotel was very COVID safe and the staff friendly on arrival. I was even allowed to check in early with no issue, after a short day on site. Room was well decorated and bed was very comfy. WiFi was quick too, which is a bonus when having to work into the evening. Keep up the great work!

The Hotel was nice and cosy and the staff were very friendly. the meals were restricted to a limited range which after 5 nights you would be finding it difficult to choose. The conference room was a good size and everywhere was being cleaned frequently due to Covid 19.

Nice food, good selection on the menu. Felt we were very rushed at the end given the 10 pm deadline. I dont expect the glasses to come off the table 30 mins beforehand - feel a bit too early to be out by 10. There wasn't an opportunity to phone a taxi and we were told to wait outside and phone a taxi from there, and it was a cold evening. They need to give that some more thought.

I booked this for my son and his wife for their wedding. When the lady on reception found out they were just married she put them in the honeymoon suite. How lovely of them. Thank you so much. They had a lovely night and said breakfast was lovely too

having been in lockdown for months .We ventured out to our local Hilcroft Hotel for dinner.Scot made sure I was kept away from other guests due to my apprehension. The menu is varied to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. The presentation & taste is fabulous, thank you chef. Hats off to all staff for making this a pleasurable experience . Scot, Marion & Pedro ensured everyone stuck to the government rules in these unprecedented times. Thank you all and would highly recommend

I love this place! I've been in the restaurant many times, I've also been in there function rooms a few times for nights out & new year, I've been in the big room for a couple of weddings & I've also stayed over after a wedding. Cannot fault the hotel/restaurant one bit. Staff are so friendly and welcoming, everything is spotless clean & the food is absolutely amazing. Not forgetting their cocktails too. Hope to be back very soon. It's even a bonus when this is right on your doorstep.

Chose this hotel as we didnt want to go to any large city due to virus. On entering hotel we felt very relaxed as all the steps had been taken to protect guests. Sanitizing etc was well signed and plenty of it. Check in was simple all things was explained to us. Our room was lovely and cosy on ground floor. We had booked dinner on first night to catch up with our son who had travelled from Glasgow to stay the night. The menu was excellant plenty of choice and food was delicious. Staff were excellant and cared for us asking us if everything was ok. Breakfast was nice and staff very friendly to us. Due to virus food was served to us but i enjoyed this much more relaxing. We stayed from Saturday to Thursday. Beds were so comfy and big so had a good sleep. Elaine and staff were very helpfull in advising of places to visit in the area giving us the postcodes so we could use satnav. Elaine told us if we went to to kelpies there was a ice cream farm that made ice cream and it was so delicious. Plenty of parking at hotel, Overall after being in lockdown for so many months this was such a treat. Elaine i would like to thank you and your staff for making our break so enjoyable will certainly be back. Would highly recommend it

Chose this hotel as was looking forward to catching up with family post lockdown and was looking to avoid the main cities. Check in was confident and as soon as you stepped into the hotel you felt comfortable that all care for both guests and staff were second to none. We had reserved a table in the conservatory and the service was first class, perfect for us allowed to be looked after yet not intrusive. The staff judged this as soon as we arrived which made for us to have such a enjoyable evening. The menu choice was extensive and the food was delicious, one of the nicest meals in a long long time. Breakfast was just as good and in summary the hospitality provided at this hotel makes you proud we have the opportunity to enjoy our local hospitality. Excellent service and good food. Stopped rm route to a funeral for a casual lunch and we were given a warm and friendly welcome. The bar/dining room is spacious and tables nicely spaced. Table service from Clare was efficient and courteous. Our salad caprese was excellent, as was the soup and prawn cocktail, although the avocado content was sparse.

We've just spent 4 wonderful days at the Hilcroft Hotel. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the customer service is excellent. The bedrooms are spacious and very good value for money. The breakfast is superb and I can highly recommended the Eggs Benedict which is delicious. We will definitely be returning to the Hilcroft very soon.

My family and I have just enjoyed the best new year party we have attended for many years. We had a great night with excellent food, smashing entertainment and friendly company all in a wonderfully decorated function suite. The hotel staff worked like trojans to make this the success it undoubtedly was, and are to be congratulated for their efforts. Ater the ball was over we retired to our very comfortable rooms to enjoy a good nights sleep before partaking of the excellent breakfast provided. Will we be back again? you bet we will, in fact we are in process of booking our place for next year. In the meantime we hope to visit this very good hotel during the year.

WOW - for the past 5 years we have had Christmas lunch out and I can say without any doubt that the Hilcroft has surpassed all previous destinations. Congratulations to both back and front of house staff. Good food was had by all and the added extras for the children were excellent . Colourful table balloons which the children were allowed to take home also selection boxes for each child but the absolute bonus was the availability of a play room for the younger children. Well done to management and staff cannot praise your efforts enough.

Recently attended a function at the Hilcroft Hotel. Not my first function here but definitely the worst. Staff were very uninterested and walked around looking either clueless or annoyed to be working. The bar staff got my order wrong twice and when asking for a glass of Merlot I got a puzzled stare. The function room was absolutely roasting and it took them 2 hours to turn on the air con on. Food was served and the Italian sounding waiter started to talk to guests in a very rude and arrogant way when asking who was having what dish and was told more than once that it wasn't the meals he was trying to serve us. Sent our sons meal back as it was cold and was missing all the potatoes and vegetables. It was served with chips not what he asked for. We had the vegetarian option and this consisted of a pepper filled with boiled rice and a side salad. It was tasteless and watery. Verging on inedible. The soup was ok, that was it. Most of the meals in our party got pushed around the plate and remained uneaten. Very disappointed with it really and will not be back.

No matter whether it is business or pleasure the Whitburn Best western is a great place to stay. I make a point of seeking out availablity / proximity of Best wester hotels whenever we travel for busness or pleasure. Grod job!

I may have been upgraded, and I got a large double room - oddly numbered and out of sequence with those around it - on the first floor. Spacious room, large bed, and a reasonable desk to work at. The bathroom was amazing, with a whirlpool bath (not tried) and a spacious shower. Wifi was excellent too.

Standard Best Western hotel room but what it made it stand out? Was the bowl of mints on the table? Was it the local Biscuits with the tea and coffee making facilities? Was it the refurbished bathroom? No it was the squinty toilet! It was out of alignment with the wall, or with tiles and it's own close coupled cistern. We were fortunate as the room we had could not hear the wedding reception. Food was satisfactory. Staff were cheerful, happy and helpful. Would I stay again- Yes. Even if it was only to see the squinty toilet survives!

Food was okay nothing special not as good as expectef for the price but the staff were great and the place was quite nice and clean nice window view lots of parking and fast service couldnt speak for the rooms as i wasnt in any

1 nights stay in Bathgate while working in the local area the hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful the rooms were ok if a little hot as most hotels . The restaurant was fine even though they had a large party in .

We had a post funeral tea and light bites here which was perfect location. On arrival the General Manager greeted us and showed us to the function suite. It was clean, well presented and layed out, with the sandwiches covered coffee and tea fresh and hot! The sausage rolls followed and they were brilliant as they were home made. Cakes had been left out and sadly were just Mr Kipling cakes thrown on a plate.... We got a drink included in the package and went to order a 2nd drink later. I ordered 7 drinks for the table and went to get another order by the time I went to collect the lady had gone and no drinks and waited to pay. I returned 10 minutes later thinking she was bringing them to the table or had ran out of something. Marion needs to learn some manners, snapping at customers who order drinks and then being told I should be made to pay for the ones she just threw down the sink as I disappeared after having told her there was more drinks needed. Snappy staff don't settle well with me sadly.

Nice staff, clean and nice food, stayed 3 nights, very comfortable. Breakfast was a feast with plenty selection.We will definitely return in the future, close to a train station, Glasgow and Edinburgh close .

I stayed here on a Lands End to John O'Groats bike ride, and bed and shower are welcome whatever the standard. The manager (Colin) whisked my bike safely into locked room and although there was wedding on, I was away from the noise. Room, a little dated, but comfy and functional. Bath as well, always a plus for cyclists legs! Dinner for a chain hotel was much better than expected. Great staff all round. I left too early for breakfast

Everything is absolutely above Customer Expectations including restaurant 108 all meals excellent. Amazing ALL STAFF beyond believe - PERFECT- Scottish heritage walks by the streams in heritage parks.

Stayed overnight and attended a function. Room was spotlessly clean and more than adequate for an overnight stay. We were greeted by Scott at reception and he was very welcoming and helpful. Food at function was basic but breakfast was perfect. Would definitely use this hotel again.

This hotel is a fantastic hotel to stay in, staff are always so pleasant and helpful from the moment you walk in the door. The food is fantastic and fresh very large portions.Rooms are all spacious and clean would highly recommend staying here

First a confession, my family and have stayed at many hotels in Central Scotland whilst en route from our home in the south to many areas in Scotland but we have always shied away from this hotel wrongly because of its location. How silly we were. We stayed here for one night recently, again on a journey from north to south.and what a revelation, this hotel is a modern building on the outskirts of Whitburn with easy access to all points of the compass. It is staffed by friendly, warm people who can't do enough for their guests. The rooms are very comfortable and extremely clean. The choice of food in the restaurant is extensive and comes extremely well prepared with large helpings. We could kick ourselves for not trying this hotel earlier but, having found it we will certainly return.

After all my work travel in 22 years this hotel for my Speedway holiday in Armidale Edinburgh is a world class accomodation and excellent food and service . You would not find a spot of dust or find any suggestions of improvement. And I'm a picky person ! Had a fabulous weekend with family at the hilcroft hotel at whitburn . On arrival there was friendly staff that go all out to make you welcome clean rooms and well presented good food and free WiFi top place to stay ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another excellent stay, service second to none, staff very friendly and go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. Food as always was excellent, especially the scampi, never had a bad meal there yet and would highly recommend, rooms are well presented and very clean, will definitely stay again.

Was here with a friend for dinner was shocking. Firstly the staff were very unfriendly and carnaptious. It took ages to be served. The food was okay but when we asked for the bill it took them over half an hour to bring it to the table. The restaurant wasn't even that busy. The staff were too busy standing talking to each other instead of serving. This is shocking and would not recommend it.

Stayed here for four nights last week whilst visiting family. The hotel is clean and welcoming and the staff are very helpful. We had breakfast in the hotel and a couple of meals, all of which were very good. The only comment I would make is that it seems to be geared towards business people who only stay one or two nights as the room we had was quite small and there was very little wardrobe space for two people for four nights. Also, breakfast was only served from 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m., which is OK for business people, but rather an early finish for people who are on holiday! We actually missed breakfast on the first morning as we were so tired from our long drive the day before that we didn't wake up in time!

Met a friend here for dinner last Thursday . The menu read ok but I thought the main courses were a bit OTT . I chose the Scampi . It was almost mediocre . Served with frozen chips and limp salad . The desert was supposed to be a crumble but it was a very ordinary tart . I wouldn't come back nor would I recommend it

Stayed here with 6 others during a visit to Whitburn. Fantastic hotel, beautiful food and lovely staff. Will def be back. Couldn't not be faulted. Good in hotel was reasonably priced and rooms were spotless.

My eldest daughter Samantha took me to the hillcroft for mothers day lunch. We were grieving my younger daughters recent death. This was a difficult day for us. We found the meal adiquate, however our waitress who, I think was called Andrea. Took time and did not rush us. When she saw i was upset. She brought me a tissue and a glass of water. It meant so much to me, just to see someone care. Thank you Andrea. I will be back. My son is getting married soon, this is the service we need.

Lone female traveler for 3 days/ 2 nights & couldn't have been made to feel more comfortable! Meeting room fine. Bedroom has everything I need and is comfy, clean & warm. Food good & staff friendly, accommodating & fabulous

We had our wedding day at this hotel and they went above and beyond the staff were so lovely the wedding coordinator scott was fantastic and looked after us and our guests like royalty nothing was too much trouble for him he looked after my mum who was 80 and anyone thinking of having a wedding there i would recommend it the day went really well but it was all down to the staff and scot and Margaret the food was amazing all my guests were raving about the food room immaculate along with the rest of the hotel breakfast was fantastic too not a bad word to say about this p!ace 10 out of 10

Hotel could not have been more accommodating. We had over 100 guests for a race night and disco to raise funds for the club. The staff helped us set up, made everyone feel so welcome, served a delicious hot buffet. Nothing was too much and all of the staff were so helpful and courteous.

I celebrated my 50th Birthday in one of the function rooms at the hilcroft yesterday. The meal was lovely and the service was amazing. We all felt special and nothing was too much bother. The staff were so caring, polite and attentive. Thanks for a lovely day.

The room was clean and comfortable. It was warm. The bed was large with a great mattress. The staff were warm and friendly. We had a lunch time meal, the food was good. Breakfast was even better. A good selection of food that was well presented. There is plenty of free parking on site. The hotel is not far from the M8.

From the outside it doesn't look much but on the inside it's a very pleasant surprise. Lovely, welcoming staff and easy to check in. Received my voucher for my complimentary drink upon check in. Room was quite spacious and well equipped. Spotless and decor was clean with no scrapes or peeling wall paper. Really quiet although room was at the front near the road and warm. Food was lovely and for me the big plus is that breakfast is cooked to order. Perfect poached egg and service was great. I'll definitely be back and recommend it to friends.

A Halloween party yesterday 04/11/18 for a local school private function made for a busy bar and restaurant for a Sunday afternoon. Once we got a table started with a few drinks which was fine. Restaurant and bar food busy, we chose to continue with drinks until it was a little calmer. When we needed to eat as the drinks were taking hold, we asked service staff 3 times for someone to take our order, yes we were told, a few mins. 25 mins later since the last (third) few mins, armed with the menu approached the staff to be told they would not take an order for another 15 mins, even although it was well past 6pm by this point. Told them we wanted to order now but were happy to wait until service was moving - no we were advised. Finally get served, food good, although had a few things out of stock which for a Sunday not too good, plan and forecast. Left one of us disappointed. Finally, the bill, asked 4-5 times again, finally got the bill and another 30 min wait for someone to come take the payment. Overall, good afternoon ruined by shoddy service. Bar staff yesterday nice but need to learn to check their guests for service if they need attention. Waiting staff, rude, offstandish then friendly - like turning off and on the hot/cold tap - pleasantries cost nothing. Visited 05/11/18.

The hotel is fairly small and friendly and the staff were welcoming. It was clean and tidy and well positioned near the M8 for access to either Edinburgh or Glasgow. There is plenty of free parking on site and free WiFi is available. The room was somewhat traditional in its styling but clean and in good order. The bathroom appeared to have been more recently updated, it too was clean, the shower had good pressure and regular hot water and there was a good supplies of toiletries. The bed was comfortable and a good size, there was a large TV, trouser press and basic tea and coffee facilities with some little additions such as a hot chocolate, bottled water and mints that were a nice touch. The room was quite warm due to the freezing temperatures outside and there is no Aircon, although a fan was provided. There is a bar/restaurant on site but otherwise it is a fairly straightforward place, It's by no means glamorous but it is a clean and decent little hotel. I'd consider it more of a stop over hotel than a business/work type venue as there aren't really any real desk facilities in the rooms and they are lacking available plug sockets which might make any work difficult. My only issue with the room that I was in was that that I found myself on the road side of the hotel which is unfortunately positioned on a junction. Sadly the windows are not quite sound proof enough to block out the fairly regular sound of big bore exhausts which tended to rudely penetrate the otherwise quiet location; thankfully it wasn't too bad and 11pm must be past the bedtime for the most of the local tweens so things eventually tailed off. All in all it was fair value and a reasonable nights sleep and while I might not go too far out of my way to stay here again, I'd certainly consider staying again if I was passing between the two big cities or visiting somewhere locally.

Stayed here for one night. The staff were very pleasant and accomodating. The room was very clean and could not be faulted. There was only one small detail however, which was the bulb needed changing on one of the wall lamps, in room 10. The breakfast was nice and the atmosphere in the hotel was peaceful and relaxing. Overall a nice stay and would absolutely stay here again.

Easy to find and good parking. Receptionest was good manned and helpful pointed out everything. Room of good standard and great bathroom. We'll stocked tea/coffee, hair dryer and iron and board. The one to one resteraunt very good.

My Husband and I recently started over while we were attending a wedding, The room was perfect, very lean with lots of room and a big comfy bed. The breakfast was the best I have had in a while staying over at a hotel, and although when we went down it was busy the service was spot on! I would highly recommend this hotel for work or pleasure.

We attended a wedding at this hotel end everything was fine during the day (food staff etc) but when the evening came the mood changed amongst the staff the bar staff were surly bordering on rude but the best was yet to come at about 10 mins past one the bar staff started to snatch drinks off of the guests who were still there I might add that the majority of the guests that were left were all residents of the hotel when I asked the bar staff what they were doing the told me to get out I then went to speak to the night manager(Marion) a more confused and uninformed person of the licensed trade in all my 30 years of being involved in the said trade I have yet to meet I informed her that we were mostly residents and all we wanted to do was finish our drinks in peace we did not want anymore alcohol but her answer was she did not have a residents licence when I tried to explain the licensing law pertinent to hotels her answer was It was up to her who got a drink so if you attend a function here you better stay on the good side of Marion or better still don't go

I attended a wedding here , hotel was really pretty and Margaret and Scott were extremely helpful , food was ok and most staff were extremely helpful , however one of the function staff at the wedding James his name was he was extremely arrogant and not helpful at all! Even although I was treated with complete and utter disrespect of of This member of staff It certainly won't stop me returning in future.

This hotel is good value for money and a good location. 5 minutes (£8 in a taxi) to Armsdale station which is 30 minutes (£9.20 return) into Edinburgh Waverly station. The staff are friendly and the rooms are clean and serviced daily. The showers are lovely and powerful. My only recommendation is to have free bottled water in the room as you cannot drink from the taps.

I was very skeptic about staying at this hotel but glad I did. The price was right. The room was really clean with a very nice bathroom. The food was great. Went to breakfast everyday. The people working there were really friendly. It was only 30 minutes away from Edinburgh. The only downside is, it's on a main street and you can hear the car outside.

My two sisters and I recently spent 4 nights at the hotel. One sister has mobility problems and the staff went to great lengths to find her a room on the ground floor as she had trouble with the two flights of stairs. This hotel does not have a lift. This was sorted out immediately after our arrival and we were very grateful for their efforts. The rooms were very clean with good amenities, apart from lack of drawer space - only one drawer which housed the hairdryer. However, what the hotel lacked in drawer space it more than made up for by the hospitality shown by the staff. They were courteous, very friendly and extremely helpful. There was a good breakfast choice and food was served with a smile. Only down side to breakfast was that it took three days of asking for crispy bacon for it to arrive to my liking!!! All in all, a really good stay and would definitely consider this hotel again, should we return to the area.

We booked 2 rooms and both we fine - disappointed with my evening meal having to be returned because the chicken was overcooked and the lack of service at breakfast. We waited 40 minutes for the breakfast to arrive and then it was only luke warm. Such a shame as it's a nice hotel.

We were staying 2 nights as we were attending a wedding there. Very attractive hotel inside. I didn't see a lift (I don't know if there is one or not) which is ok as we don't need one but our case was on the heavy side so for less able people a ground floor room might be advisable. Our room was very nice. Huge bed and a bath in the bathroom which I always like. Ironing board in room was great as my husband's shirt had been a bit creased on our journey. We had a meal in the restaurant the first night and the food was excellent. Breakfast was good. I had Eggs Benedict on th Friday morning but when my husband asked for the same on the Saturday we were told it is not available at the weekend which is a little peculiar. Wedding was very well organised and flowed very smoothly. Nice little garden area with wooden gazebo at back of reception room where photos were taken. Lovely meal.All in all, really enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here on business for 3 nights. Warm welcome, good service and well trained staff who were attentive to customers needs. The bed was a little hard for me however I requested a topper and extra quilts when I return from work it was all there. The manager also checked to make sure I was happy with it. Huge breakfast with a good selection to choose from. The room was a little dated and there was some traffic noise which is why I have not given a 5. Overall I would return.

Fabulous afternoon tea had by my husband and myself would highly recommend x the food was delicious and the staff were great nothing was too much trouble x I have had a few afternoon teas in the past in different places and this is by far the best

I moved to this hotel last minute after accidentally booking into a hotel elsewhere that made Fawlty Towers seem like luxury. I came here feeling apprehensive and rather upset at being 350 miles from home and having had a bad experience leading me to be here as a last minute alternative. As I pulled up I thought "this doesn't look much" which, from the outside, there's nothing remarkable about it or that makes it stand out but the inside is lovely. Clean, bright and tasteful. I was immediately greeted by a lady as I came through the door (not to the desk. Literally as I walked in she immediately acknowledged me) and she was friendly and polite throughout the checking in process and, most importantly, she made me feel at ease. She directed me to the room with good clear directions and I found my room no problem. When I did I almost cried with relief. The room was spacious beyond what I could have imagined. I had free bottled water and fox's sweet, the bed was huge (five foot wide!) and the whole place including the bathroom was clean, tidy and well decorated with no signs of wear. Earlier in the year I'd stayed at a 4 star hotel in Uphall and that room was half the size of this one with a lot of wear and tear. I went down for dinner and the staff there were equal to the lady on reception (who I think was the manager by the way). The bar staff were friendly and polite and the restaurant manager (I think her name was Marion) was superb. Great customer service and a lovely warmth about her. The food was LOVELY. Really tasty and great value - the fajitas, the trifle, the scampi, the lentil soup, the minestrone soup, the burger, all were lovely. After the first night meal, off I went to my room to try to get an early night but it was still light and sunny outside. No worries, the room had a blind and curtains that totally blocked out the sun and made the room perfectly dark to sleep. The bed was comfortable and there was even an alarm clock in yhe room so I could turn my phone off and enjoy a good nights sleep. Following morning I had a cuppa and ironed my shirts before jumping in the best shower I've every experienced in a hotel. It was a proper power shower like at home! There is not a single negative to this hotel that I could find and I WILL stay here again when I'm next in the area. THANK YOU FOR RESCUING A DISASTROUS BUSINESS TRIP WITH BOTH A NICE ROOM BUT A WELCOMING TEAM. I felt at home despite being 350 from my actual home.

I have stayed here a few times now as it's close to a number of my clients for work, I can honestly say that the staff make such a huge difference to any stay, the room was very spacious itself with fantastic facilities, there is a restaurant onsite with more than ample parking, there are some electric car charging points as well. The staff were friendly, polite and professional at all times, and the food in the restaurant I would consider to be really good. Breakfast was also a real treat, thank you for your great hospitality, I really have enjoyed my stay and I will always make it a choice of mine whenever I can go there.

Really friendly staff, helped me with my bags as there isn't a lift. Pleasant room, decorated to a good standard and very clean, albeit a little on the small side - but being a single traveller this wasn't an issue for me. I didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening, but the cooked breakfast was excellent.

This hotel is fine if you just want somewhere to lay your head. It's not amazing but it's ok and the parking is good. It's dinner menu isn't spectacular and I thought it was a little dated with gammon and pineapple and choux pastry buns as specials but we ate there once and the food was ok. Breakfast was ok too, although I found the bacon and sausage very undercooked. The next day I asked for it to be cooked well and all was good.

Visited for quick bite to eat before heading to Glasgow for Ed Sheeran. Ordered two burgers, beef and chilli burger and two pints, bill about £30. Service good, surroundings look modern and fresh. Had a 30 min wait even although the place was quiet but was fine. Both burgers were lovely, served on slate platters and not too much trouble when I ask if I can have a plate, never enjoy eating off slate, more ends up on the table. Lovely time and a good start to our day, Only point is food is quite pricey and drinks for out of town, think it would put people off and remember you pay these prices in Edinburgh/Glasgow, rethink on pricing strategy. Staying here before we fly home tomorrow out of Glasgow. We've been very pleased with the room and the staff. The room is very clean with nice amenities. Scott at the front desk has been very helpful and informative. He's printed out maps to help us find places. Recommended a golf course that was perfect for our needs. He's friendly and welcoming. Everyone here is obviously trained in customer service. Would definitely stay here again!

A great big thank you to Marion, we were attending a wedding at the weekend and having such a small hand bag I didn't have room for a brush but Marion came to the rescue and supplied me with a comb in a matter of seconds!! Super Star!!! Thank you again :)

We called when in the area on business en route to the airport. The food was nice, wholesome and Scottish, and the service quick and friendly. The dining room was busy with locals as was the outside seating, which is always a positive sign.

Welcoming, genuine and friendly staff. Rooms are well turned out and very clean. Desk area and good Wi-fi helpful for business travellers. Excellent restaurant food and neat bar area with sky sports. Perhaps not what you would expect from the outside. Excellent stop over.

I have been staying at the Hilcroft whilst working away Monday to Friday. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is excellent if not a little bit repetitive after staying in it so often, I have stayed in about 8 different rooms. They do vary in size however all were clean and adequate as I was a single traveller. Some of the rooms I would not have liked to stay in if I was with my partner due to size. The bathrooms are all modern, water pressure is good and plenty of hot water. The only fault I have had was being put in a room above the function room whilst a Christmas party was on, however, when I went down to reception they moved me straight away just a shame they hadn't put me in that room to start with.

Warm welcome and quick early check in. Room was clean and bathroom was lovely with separate walk-in shower. Seated quickly at breakfast and service was good. Breakfast was fine, fair selection, full-Scottish, cereals etc. Would definitely stay again if we were attending another wedding.

Visited with family group including young baby. Staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. Service was quick and attentive, high chair supplied for the baby, half portion no problem for the granny!! Food was lovely and well presented from the mussels to the meringue everything was great and the portions are very generous. Plenty parking available and all facilities very clean. Will definitely return

Staff were really friendly and food was delicious , our room had huge tv , ironing board ,iron , trouser press ,hairdryer and was very clean .We had bottled water in the room as well as tea and coffee i would definately go back and stay here again .

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at this hotel. Warm, welcome and comfortable stay with great food. Good menu choices all day from snacks to full menu. There is a lovely wedding room as well as a function room with too. I can thoroughly recommend the haddock for breakfast !

Just spent 3 nights here for a family wedding and would recommend the hotel as a venue. The hotel was spotless, the function areas were terrific and the staff were very tuned in to make sure a special day was all it should be. Room and bar prices will not break the bank. The only small gripe would be that no "Residents Bar" arrangements were in place although a polite request for a "continuance" of our pre wedding celebrations was accommodated without too much fuss. Super breakfast served each morning by the ever smiling Pedro.

Went for mothers day just myself daughter granddaughter soon as wee got table asked if wanted a drink but just wanted to relax have time got exactly that tòok food order champagne was included had to ask for it starters came was nice both had pate dinner came 15mns later broth had beef but was tough and dry no one came asked if needed more drinks waitress serving at nxt table so I got her attention then wee got puddings 20 mins later asked to pay then had to ask again shame won't be back had better and better service too

stayed here two nights for a family wedding. got checked in earlier than stated as our room was ready. the rooms are spacious, clean and have all the added touches (fans, sweets, bottles of water, ironing board iron etc) to make your stay a comfortable one. the breakfast and lunches were very nice in the hotel. the wedding itself went very well and the staff were very friendly and pleasant. the meal at the wedding was lovely and all are family spoke highly of the food. fully enjoyed r stay here and would certainly reccommend it and wil make a point of returning here in the future.

The hotel was central to my area of work and the staff at reception were friendly and very helpful. The room was on the ground floor and was very comfortable with all the amenities of shower ,toilet and hand basin.There was fresh towels provided on request as well as shampoo and body wash. The restaurant was clean with helpful staff and a good choice of food on the menu for Dinner as well as breakfast. overall a good stay.

I was overcharged so much that according to their advertised prices for starter and main, my pudding came in at £10.70 to match their bill. I wish a had more time during checkout to query it, but had to get to work

Booked this hotel as it was cheap for a night's bed and breakfast at £36. Needed a one night stay to attend a funeral in Edinbugh the following day. Very friendly staff, informative and attentive. Very impressed with table-service breakfast, too! Delicious hot, fresh cooked breakfast to set us up for the day. This really was a little gem of a place. Highly recommended!

Once again a brilliant time was had by us all. Rooms are clean. Plenty hot water and a nice powerful shower. Nothing is a problem to the staff and breakfast next morning is fab. Best way to party and nit have to drive home. Chef even had dairy free ice cream !!! Small thing for some but massive for me as never had ice cream before and happy to say I was rather excited

Had a night here and it was very pleasant ,the staff very friendly and helpful my room was a good size and very clean and modern it's a good location just 5 mins off the main motorway between Edinburgh and Glasgow

Had a wonderful Xmas Day lunch at the Hilcroft. Table setting was just right and the food was delicious. Every member of staff made us welcome and are a credit to the hotel. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and I cannot give praise enough to the Hilcroft for making our Xmas Day a special one. Thank You!

Brilliant night. Well done to all the staff and management for a fantastic night. Menu was fabulous and suited everyone. Delicious food all served by friendly efficient staff. ABBA tribute was excellent everyone enjoyed the sing a long and a dance to the music. Great fun. The function suite was decorated beautifully. The whole evening got everyone in the festive mood. Great time had by all.

The hotel was busy with a wedding but staff still found time for a warm welcome. Very clean modern room with a lovely ensuite. After midnight the hotel was very quiet leading to a good night's sleep. Didn't have breakfast so can't give an opinion.

We stayed at this hotel, before attending a funeral. The staff were extremely professional and helpful; allowing us an early check in. The room was comfortable and warm; and breakfast very tasty and plentiful. Great value for money. Far better than hotels charging significantly more. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

I stayed here for one night on Business and was pleasantly surprised. For the price, you get an excellent room and the service was second to none. The room was spacious and had a huge and comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotless and was well appointed. I had breakfast and was very impressed with the service. There is a continental selection available and the hot foods were made to order. I was very impressed with my full Scottish breakfast. All in all, excellent stay! I will be back now that I've found this place. Ideal location in the central belt. Thank you :)

Popped in at 9.20 pm tonight for coffee with my 3 sisters (aged 55-66). Waitress came over and we were told we couldn't eat our own biscuits!! Firstly we didn't have our coffees at that point and secondly we didn't have any biscuits. What she saw was a box of chocs I had given to my sister as a gift to take home. I would suggest staff check their facts first before throwing accusations!! It was very unpleasant and totally unnecessary. It seemed like a very nice restaurant but if that's the level of their customer service and welcome we will not be returning.

My elderly mother and I stayed at the Hilcroft for two nights earlier this month to attend a wedding which was being held in the hotel. We arrived on the Friday evening and as my mother walks with a stick we were allocated room 2. This is just off reception and has easy access to the function rooms, bar and restaurant. However the traffic noise at night woke us up a few times. As our stay was only for two nights not much of problem really. As is normal, you can request extra bedding etc and my mother needed a nonslip bath mat for showering. This was placed in the room whilst we were at breakfast on the Saturday. In the wardrobe we found an iron and ironing board which was good as we could give our outfits a quick once over before the wedding. There's also coffee and tea making facilities. The breakfasts can't be faulted, plenty of choice and served by pleasant staff. The bar meals too were excellent although the bar was somewhat cold. Then again it was November! The setting in the function room for the wedding was beautiful. Although we were disappointed with the food served. All I can say is starter was dry - melon unripe and certainly not juicy. Main courses were also dry - lack of gravy. Desserts were dry - lack of pouring cream. Such a pity as bar and restaurant meals were very good. All facilities were very clean and tidy. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Stopped over for a couple of nights, nothing to really complain about, it's clean, neat and tidy, staff pretty good, food pretty good, rooms pretty good... it's not a "WOW" place but it serves its purpose well, probably a little expensive if anything, but all in all, no problem.

I stay in hotels about 100 times a year. This hotel is new to me. I like the Best Western brand. Indie hotels but a good standard. This hotel is a great ambassador for the brand. Ask any business traveller. A clean comfortable bed, a bit of space to sit down, good Wi-fi, decent food, good bar, friendly staff, peaceful surroundings and easy parking. This hotel has it all. It's not the ritz, it lacks a pool or gym but it is a cracking hotel and not too expensive. I'll be back!!

We stayed at the Hilcroft Hotel for 4 nights on our first trip to Scotland. Brilliant service from all the staff and cleanliness could not be faulted. Would definitely recommend and definitely would not hesitate to stay agai

A family visit, this hotel was nearby and no mistake, a nice clean room with ironing facilities and you could make a cup of tea and coffee. The breakfast excellent and on the monday even more choise than on the sunday. We even had a meal on Sunday night, very special. We liked it very much it. On our next family visit. we will come again.

Extremely helpful staff, breakfast was excellent, room a little on the small side and the main road on which the hotel is situated was noisy on occasions. Would stay again, but ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Loads of parking

Know this hotel from living in the area, but this is the 1st time I stayed in it. Decent sized room. Looked like a recently renovated bathroom. Cleaners were quiet around guests like myself, who prefer to sleep, rather than eat breakfast. The rest of the staff were helpful but unobtrusive. Good food. When living in the area, I ate in the Restaurant a few times, including having a 25th Wedding Anniversary meal there. All in all, a pleasant, friendly establishment. I would certainly stay there when in the area again.

Just stayed for the one night. Relaxing hotel with friendly staff. Room was small but as not on holiday it wasn't an issue. Overall quality of room and food was very good. Plenty of parking on the grounds and cleanliness of hotel was excellent

One night business trip. Pleasant hotel, comfortable clean room. Fairly quiet taking account of the usual suspects who talk loudly and bang doors late on (same at all hotels). Nice touches in room eg sweets and water etc. Good range of cooked to order breakfast (I just had poached eggs on toast). Nicely priced evening meals , tasty too.

Check in was friendly and efficient. The room was clean, pleasantly decorated, well equipped and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The cooked breakfast is an impressive spread with a wide selection of items. The staff are all friendly and attentive.

a very comfortable one nights stay on way to the tattoo. we had a fantastic welcome from all the staff who couldn't do enough for us. as we were in a group our meal was a set menu which couldn't be faulted. Our stay from start to finish was a lovely experience . We would recommend this small hotel to anyone. Thank you all staff.

Fantastic.We had quite a time last night,and what a fantastic venue run by great staff from front of house to bar,waiting staff. The room was very comfortable with plenty space a large bathroom with shower and a bath. But what made it really special for us was how Margaret Gill and everyone at the Hilcroft really looked after us.

Just home from a stay at the Hilcroft last night and I can't say enough good things about the staff, in particular Clair and Margaret! We had a few issues checking in which were all our own fault but these two ladies dealt with everything for us! What could have ruined our weekend was rescued by their brilliant customer service! The hotel itself was also lovely and great value for money! Our room was clean and perfect for our stay! There is a nice bar and restaurant attached! We would definitely stay again!

I wanted to take the time to say a BIG thank you to Claire and staff. My wife left her electric toothbrush and laptop charger behind and after ringing the hotel not having much hope she would get them back Claire was fantastic to deal with. She offered to take the items to the post office out of her own time and sent them back to us recorded delivery, ringing us to check up we received them. It's not all about the service at the hotel but also the after service. We really appreciate the effort she went too and with that alone the next time she is in Livingston for a business meeting she will be sure to use this hotel again. Well done Claire you really deserve alot credit for your customer services as it was top class :)

Well located family owned small hotel. The entire place is very clean, corridors and rooms are all very well maintained, and the staff are professional. Breakfast was freshly cooked and everything was brought to the table including toast so no standing around for ages waiting for White toast to pop out of an industrial toaster.

We took 3 important guests from London to the Hilcroft for lunch. We explained we were on a tight deadline for their flight back and asked what was a better option for the chef. Everything was perfect, the fish and chips was excellent and one of our party had the fajitas which he rated as one of the best he had ever had and her travels worldwide so that is a positive. So great lunch, peaceful, prompt and highly professional staff.

Stayed here as it was a bit out from Edinburgh where we were visiting. Was delighted with the room as it was nice and clean. Could of done with more tea, coffee and sugar making facilities in the room, but that would be my only complaint.

We stay here when we visit relatives in the area and yet again the staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. The room was perfect and very clean. The hotel hosted a function for our family in the conservatory and the food and service was excellent. Breakfasts are great too. We will certainly be back.

Although the staff were very friendly, my husband and I were very disappointed by our stay. The hotel is right on the Main Street and has a lot of road noise. There was also a sign in the bathroom saying don't drink the tap water! What!? We asked, and the person at the front desk said it would be okay if we boiled it - I do that when I'm camping- not at a hotel!! So I asked if they provided bottled water. I was told I could purchase some at the bar. The last nail in this coffin was the amount of yelling the hotel allowed their wedding guests to do right in front of the hotel under our window! Oh, and the 4 am wake up call we asked for didn't happen - thank goodness we never got to sleep anyway! Slept on the plane!!

Great Hotel, Staff great and facilities fantastic. Location also good right off the main route. Rooms clean and great selection of complimentary drinks and sweets. WiFi also good here had no issues with working.

I stayed here as I was on training within the area. The hotel is clean, modern and tidy. The food is nice and have a good choice to choose from and they are good size portions. Claire at reception was very friendly and polite. All the bar staff were more than accommodating and gave great service and Scott the manager was an absolute Gem who made the stay even better. The rooms have t.v, kettle, iron board and iron with ample hanging space and the bathrooms are nice size with bath & shower.

This show is yet to fail me I attend every year and never once been let down all the staff go out their way to make sure you have the best night ever and all songs from grease and Dirty dancing are played along with a few more that isn't.The band interact with the crowd also at the end of the night they come round and thank everyone that came to their show also the food has always been lovely and hot as well.i have also had family gatherings here within the 108 bar and again never been let down good size portions for the meals staff are friendly and helpful all times and are great with kids would defo recommend this hotel to anyone.

Went to a grease v dirty dancing night with 3 course meal for £35 pp. arrived in plenty time put to a table with pillar. When complained that we wouldn't be able to see anything we were assured we will that the group come out on the floor !! However that never happened. Couldn't see anything. Meal was cold. Chocolate cake dry & very small portions. Only 6 relevant songs to grease / dirty dancing played before band took 1 hour 30 mins break. Through out that time they played dance tunes. When complained we were told they'd be back on and it would be better. However 15 mins later they went back on 1 dirty dancing song and 2 nothing at all to do with grease or dirty dancing. By that point we got up and left. The night was really poor, and a disappointed time was had by us all. We weren't the only ones who left. Don't recommend their functions. Really disappointed as food is usually fab in there as we've been several times. We feel so let down and duped as was expecting a fantastic meal and time.

Very friendly and helpful staff throughout my stay. Rooms could do with an update but for the price its very good. The restaurant is excellent.. great value and the food during my stay was very very good.

The room and staff fine but the traffic all night the fan all night sleep poor if you want a sleep I suggest asking for a room at the rear of the hotel the traffic was all night so loud and the smell of petrol fumes very bad

I stayed overnight for work purposes and was impressed. Whilst the outside doesn't look very impressive, inside is quite modern and clean, and the rooms have been recently done to a good standard with large comfortable bed, and large bathroom with power shower, and have all amenities you need with complimentary bottled water a nice touch. I ate in the bar and the staff and food were excellent, with a good range of meals and snacks. My only complaint is that when I came to check in and out there were no staff on reception and I had to wait a good few minutes both times, but overall I would stay again.

We had a large family booking the evening before my Gran's funeral as the family had travelled from various points across the U.K. We checked in without a hitch and I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious room that more than accommodated the travel cot that the hotel had provided. The family then congregated at the bar where the staff were only too happy to cater for our party by setting up a large table for us. Unfortunately there was hardly any staff around and we were often waiting for over ten minutes to get a drink which only worsened as the bar filled up. The staff that periodically popped up didn't acknowledge you or your wait and certainly offered no explanation. When we tracked the waiter down to take our order we waited over an hour for the food to arrive and some members of our party were ready to cancel their order. Again no explanation and certainly nothing in the way of an apology. The staff we could see were extremely busy to their credit, there just learly wasn't enough of them. Now to breakfast.....55 minutes from sitting down to getting a coffee, frozen eggs benedict, all breakfast orders wrong in the first instance, not enough cutlery, not enough butter, cold toast, need I go on? Our main gripe was the complete lack of empathy from the staff, they seemed incapable of apologising and the waiter seemed more bothered by the fact that he was rushed off his feet rather than providing satisfactory customer service to us. It is the hotels obligation to provide enough staff, we felt let down and disappointed by the whole experience and can only hope that the reception to my gran's funeral runs more smoothly.

I attended a family wedding (C&C) on 18 March. We all had a great time. We were staying in the hotel the night of the wedding and as we travelled a wee bit to our destination the hotel was able to accommodate our request for an early check-in. This was much appreciated and the room allocated (Room 24) was perfect for my husband and I and our 12 year old daughter) . The wedding itself was excellent. The function room where the service was held was beautifully set up, the hotel staff (right from check in) were friendly and helpful and the wedding meal was lovely. Breakfast was also excellent. A great day was had by all.

Stayed for a wedding. Hotel was lovely, rooms were good size. Food was good. Only down side is its noisy at night in your room. Rooms could do with sound proofing. Great power shower in the room. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for one night after a wedding held there. Wedding facilities and food served at wedding were first class. Hotel itself had decent sized bedrooms with ample essential facilities, but beware the walls are 'paper thin'! Could quite clearly hear conversations going on in adjoining room. Traditional Scottish breakfast in morning although good sized portions was a bit on the greasy side but no real problems there. Bar prices were reasonable and locals use this as a restaurant which showed main meals come well recommended. Ok for a one or two night stay but any longer and you'd probably struggle to find anything to do in the immediate vicinity.

Stayed here for one night before heading back home. The hotel itself is really impressive from the outside and we loved the Christmas decorations on the roof. The receptionist was really welcoming and we loved our room which was small but immaculate. The decor was lovely and everything spotless. The night we stayed we were meeting friends in the restaurant and sadly that's where it went downhill. We had booked a table for 8pm and it took 15 minutes before we had to ask if someone would take a drinks order from us. We then got flat lemonade for the kids which had to go back. One of the child meals was sent back 3 times because they kept getting the order wrong. The vegetables weren't al dente but rock hard. After our meal we headed to the bar for a few drinks and that was really enjoyable - no problems at all. Our room was right above a dinner dance but that's to be expected on a Saturday night so we weren't too bothered. Just make sure you know where your room is and if noise bothers you then you may want to move. Again, lovely receptionist when we left the following morning. The only let down was the service in the restaurant but that wouldn't stop us from booking again. We would eat elsewhere though and maybe try the breakfast instead next time.

Stayed for three nights, very nice hotel, friendly staff nothing was a problem to them. Room was clean and tidy. Bar area very nice meals were top notch standard. had no complaints at all. I have stayed in higher star hotels not as good as this one.

I stayed here for 2 nights. I am from the area however we had friends coming up from England that we met abroad earlier in the year, so we decided to book three rooms. The hotel in itself is lovely, very well decorated and set out. Also liked the room interior, even tho compared to my friends bathrooms mine was old and discoloured, however very clean which is the main thing. My biggest issue with the hotel is that i feel we were looked at differently from the other guests as we are in our 20s, didn't feel very comfortable when speaking with staff as i felt they were maybe looking down at me. At night the room was absolutely freezing, i travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels. However i have never been in my life been in one so cold. My teeth were literally chattering and thats no exaggeration. The heater was up as full as it would allow, however the room remained that cold i couldn't take off my outer clothes. Had the staff been more approachable i maybe could have spoke with someone regarding the issue. Also i wasn't happy at the room service not been 24hr. The £25 room charge as well for any alcohol in the room is ridiculous. I have never came across this before. I was also confronted by one of the night staff - security i think. For noise that was made the night before. I was told if the was any noise again i would be chucked out there and then. I can say for 100% that there was no noise from my room that night. I always, no matter where i stay have full respect for other guests. Again I feel like my age, was the reason for this comment and i was being looked down on. I won't be returning again which is shame because we have a few more nights planned.

Stayed over for one night only. Very welcoming reception area and lovely staff. The room was very well presented clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and decor was beautiful. Went down for dinner to restaurant where we had a lovely meal with excellent service. Good selection on the menu and well priced. Decided to join the club for points as we would definitely use this hotel again well done

As someone who has travelled extensively with my occupation I have stayed in many hotels and seen a lot.. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HOTEL IN THE WORLD WHO FINES YOU £25 if they catch you drinking alcohol in your room that was not purchased in their hotel! (You can take your trash home with you when you leave?) Try having a burger and chips in their restaurant. They will not leave the ketchup bottle. The foreign waiter comes and puts 2 or 3 teaspoons of the red sauce on your plate... as if they were grinding pepper. It was unpleasant to have wait staff and management hanging out together 2-3 feet from table while trying to eat. Day old bread on a very nicely hand formed and seasoned burger! You get your choice of 2 Big Brekkies... meat or veggie. Same ol' same ol'. DEFO FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO STAY.

Only slept a few hours before going to Edinburgh Airport. Nice room with modern bathroom. Did not try the breakfast. In my room the wifi was good. Overall a good value hotel with convenient location, if you need to be in the airport.

My daughter was married here on Saturday and I can't recomend the venue highly enough, from the beginning to the very end all staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much for them, meal was beautiful and rooms were fantastic and very clean. We will hopefully visit again soon.

Have stayed here a few times, the rooms are comfortable but on the small side and do not have air conditioning which means they can be a little on the warm side at night. Opening the window did not help a great deal. The Wi Fi, although free is disappointingly slow and during the evening was too slow to open up a number of Web sites which is awkward if you are working. Breakfast service was a little abrupt.

Visited on a Thursday night in August for a girls catch up night. Sea bass and red thai curries were both complimented. Service a bit hap hazard, each time we wanted a fresh bottle of wine we approached the bar to be told we had to wait on table service which meant we at up to 15-20 at times and the restaurant relatively quiet. Same goes for when asking for the cheque sat for 20 mins and asked 3 times. One bug bear was we ordered our third and final bottle and no one mentioned we would be ousted in 20 mins so felt rushed to drink it, at £15 a time not great. Finally, where is wine of the week? Cheapest bottle of wine in a local place £14 should rethink. £87 pounds later on food and drink and not felt had a great experience with the service. Visited 11/08/16.

clean and quiet hotel. the breakfast was good. location was convenient. less than 20 mins from Edinburgh airport reserves it as a value for money option for accommodation after an midnight arrived flight.

I have attended numerous functions here over the years but only stayed over night once during my sisters wedding. The hotel is VERY efficiently run by a VERY hands on management team. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here with Margaret at the helm. The food is excellent and consistently excellent the service is great and the rooms were spotless and comfortable.

overnight stay for out bus trip to the milatary tattoo. Arrived early and found the hotel room lovely I would think just had a refurb carpets smelt new and the bathroom was lovely. we had a set meal at night which was very nice. The breakfast in the morning was cereals toast and a cooked breakfast, no choice on the cooked breakfast everything came on the plate even if you didnt want it. maybe easiest for them to do with a coach trip.

Stayed here last week as part of a bus trip visiting the Edinburgh tattoo, from start to finish we were very impressed, good meals, very pleasant staff, clean comfortable rooms, nice outside area where we enjoyed a drink in the sun, I asked for a fan for the room as it was a warm evening, no problem at all, thanks again, and keep up the good work.

Attended a wedding here yesterday as a guest and also was the dj forbevening function. The meal was spot on, lots of meat in the steak pie and was presented very well. I found the staff excellent, helpful and made guests very welcome. I found the duty manager excellent and she did ab excellent job of making sure the day went without any hitches. Everything ran absolutely perfect. As i dj mostly weddings i sometimes find the co ordinators pretty hard work and unhelpful and sometimes a little rude with contractors coming into their venue. I was shown best way to load in, where to park etc and she sidnt pressure bride and groom into cutting cake at a time to suit the staff. Have dealt with some genuinely horrible stuck up co ordinators over the years and yours is a credit to your hotel Was a pleasure to be here as a guest and also to work in at night. Room had good atmosphere and nice for older guests to venture into adjacent suites for a quiet drink and reat their ears Would thourougly reccomend your venue.lovely day

There was 27 of us celebrated one of our friends birthday. We had a 3 course meal for £20. Every course was plentiful and it was all made to perfection.The service was outstanding. Waiters and waitresses are the best ever. Nothing was a bother they got you anything you wanted to go with our meal.Would really recommend it to anyone.

Stayed one night. Great value. Good Reception Staff and very pleasent Bar Staff. Good Food. Dining Room service available until 9.30 pm, good to know. Don't stay in ROOM 27 if you are going to bed early - a Bar Cooler Pump is on till 10pm on the floor underneath. Room very comfortable thought.

Stayed one night while in Edinburgh for a night out. Great location just off the M8. ( Far enough to be quiet . ) Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was excellent, breakfast very nice. Sure I'll stay again. :)

I had my wedding here and it was amazing. The staff could not have been more helpful. I would totally recommend it to anyone wishing to get married here. All you have to do is turn up on the day and the staff will do the rest.

We almost took over the entire hotel for a family wedding, many staying the night after and some of us staying the night before too. The accomodation was excellent, spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, well appointed bathrooms and plenty of storage. Free wi-fi throughout the hotel too. The public areas were lovely with a comfortable bar leading into a restaurant where breakfast was served. We didn't have dinner here ourselves but other family members who did were full of praise. We did have a light lunch in the bar and it was just what we were looking for - soup and a sandwich. Breakfast itself was a table service fully cooked Scottish or vegetarian which was lovely with a small buffet continental also available. Coffee, tea and toast were included. The buffet was slightly disappointing - no croissants! The staff were amazing - coping effortlessly with the usual chaos that (our) family weddings tend to be. They were all very helpful and efficient. The wedding itself was held entirely in the hotel. The ceremony was in one function room, beautifully decorated, then we were ushered professionally through to a separate function room with a bar whilst the first room was reset for the meal and the photographs were taken in a small private garden. The dinner and speeches were again handled with quiet flawless efficiency. The food was first rate with generous portions and clearly freshly cooked. Pleasing everyone at such functions is not easy - but I didn't hear a single complaint on the night or since. Finally we were whipped back through to the other room whilst things were reset for the disco. Later on bacon rolls and chips were laid on for supper for the evening guests (and anyone who had any room after dinner - not us!). The morning after the night before - breakfast time was a shambles - old and new friends and family swapping tables arriving, leaving, coming back again .... and the breakfast staff just calmly got on with it! The Hilcroft Hotel and their staff helped make a special occasion great.

we my family attended a wedding at the hilcroft hotel this week and booked 3 rooms so we could enjoy the night without worrying about drink driving. the food was good the rooms were large and very clean toiletries and tea and coffee was included in room price as was the excellent breakfast. staff were friendly all in all a great day/night.

We stay here often and is a clean and easily accessible hotel with personal service although the only drawback is the lack of air conditioning in the rooms which can get very hot.Rooms on the front of the hotel are opposite a main road which is the only other downside.

I couldn't decide what rating to give as we ended up in 4 different rooms over the night. Always ask to be in a quiet room if you're not involved in the function they have on - weddings etc are very noisy if you're trying to sleep above the reception! Other problems out of the hotel's control but dealt with incredibly well by polite friendly staff. Very clean and well kept.

The last time I went here was before Christmas and I was very disappointed. The manager did ask me to contact him but I have not gotten around to it. This time my meal was lovely. I had vegetable fajitas. The service was a little slow but this did not stop me thoroughly enjoying my lunch. The way the meal was displayed was attractive and it was as delicious as it looked. A great improvement.

I recently stayed here for one night in advance of a business meeting I was pleasantly surprised by the room which was well appointed and with a fantastic comfortable king size bed. The usual facilities including free view tv and Internet access were available. The bar and restaurant were very good, service was very attentive and prices reasonable. Overall a pleasant experience and one I would be happy to repeat

Great hotel for business trip handy for Glasgow and Edinburgh the rooms were comfortable the staff were extremely helpful as we were working late shifts the night porter staff was excellent making sure we had all the stuff we needed

in the middle of nowhere, some rather good looking from outside, and quite average looking inside hotel. Absolutely no entertainment available, except for few tv's and alcohol in the pub area. Very poor acoustic of the place, in the restaurant toilet, you can hear voices from the kitchen, and when in your room, you can absolutely hear everything from the corridors. I guess people in corridor may hear you as well.

The venue was amazing! From start to finish they knew what they were doing and kept us right when we didn't. Every one was super friendly and the food was excellent everyone was singing there praise. The kids were extremely well catered for too they had as much fun as everyone and there meals were excellent too. Id like to thank Margaret for all the planing and help and also Scott for making it run smoothly it truly was the best day of are lives, thank you so much

Stayed overnight whilst attending a wedding reception. Hotel is really nice, friendly staff. Double room was clean, big bathroom with powerful shower. Complimentary toiletries provided, tea, coffee etc. Had a meal in the restaurant before reception - food was ok. Breakfast, however, was really enjoyable with a good selection.

This is a really nice hotel.. I have used this twice now for business, for myself and work colleagues. Nice relaxing bar area, lovely food and staff all very friendly.Rooms are top class. I stay in allot of hotels around the country, for the price this is excellent value. Thinking of taking the family as it makes a good base for visiting. Short taxi and train gets is only 20 mins from Edinburgh.

Stayed here for 3 nights, and I will be here again, comfortable rooms, all you need, great focus on customer service and satisfaction ! Don't skip breakfast worth getting up for ! Food, two menus great choice on both traditional and modern with twist ! Try the haggis scotch egg, lamb kebab on a secure is good, all the food has been tasty ! Good range of drinks and reasonable prices !!

We were in Whitburn visiting the Owl centre. We stopped here just to have a drink but while we there we decided to have lunch. Wife had a jacket potato and I had a coronation chicken sandwich. Both were really nice in pleasant surroundings. Not much too choose in Whitburn but this place is nice.

We were passing by on Saturday 4 June and spotted the hotel. Some friends had considered it for a birthday function so we thought we would have lunch and check it out. Restaurant was deserted, we thought it was closed, but a grumpy looking male appeared and said they were open. Given worst table in place, even though we were the only diners. A more pleasant female took our order, but when asked could not tell me what seafood was in the seafood linguini special. Not surprised, cos when it came, it was a gelatinous mass of longuini in what I can only describe as a sauce of tomato soup. A florid orange colour. Hidden in it was a pack of frozen mixed seafood, chewy and rubbery in equal portions. Hunt by had steak pie. We asked if the booming dance music could be lowered, which got another huffy look and a minute reduction, so we still could not chat. Took away my barely touched plate without asking if I had enjoyed. Same when paint bill which we did quickly. Went elsewhere for desert and emailed friends that our function would not take place in this hotel for sure. Just a little customer service and I can forgive a dodgy meal, but sadly, this lot do not know the score. And us the only diners!

Once again a great stay at The Hilcroft , nothing is too much trouble ,excellent value for money and very friendly staff. Located just a few minutes off the M8 Motorway .Rooms are very spacious and very comfy beds. Menu choice is very good and the food Excellent , and if you just want a Snack and a drink the bar is perfect. You can see why not just me but a lot of people return to the Hilcroft time after time.

The hotel is very nice and pleasant with nice decor and a very clean room. The staff were mostly nice and the breakfast was excellent. We stayed Thursday to Sunday and the first night was great but on the weekends the hotel is really for wedding guests and the music went on until 1am, so if your there for a relaxing break, it's not so relaxing. We ask to move but the wedding guests were in the quieter part of the hotel, which made no sense since they are at the function. We should have been informed of this upfront or they should put the non wedding guests in the quiet part. I won't stay here again unless I was at the function.

Stayed here on a business trip for 1 night. Reception is pleasant and helpful as are the rooms and there are plenty of parking spaces. The Bar is not really the place for sitting at itself but the restaurant, '108', was roomy and the staff were very pleasant and helpful, there are plenty of places to sit. Reasonable choice of food on the menu and the prices are what you might expect from a hotel.

20 members of The Royal Scottish Forestry Society stayed at the Hilcroft for 3 nights in May 2016. 15 guests joined us for a drinks reception and formal dinner on two evenings. The hotel was comfortable and clean; the food was excellent. Most important of all was that every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. Our members were unanimous in their praise.

Was at my friends daughters wedding.This hotel was amazing, the meal was brillant.Nothing was to much bother for the staff they were all brillant. Would recommend this hotel for any special occasion. Beautiful grounds for photos to be taken.

If you need somewhere to have a coffee or lunch meeting in west Lothian give the Hilcroft Hotel a try. Free WiFi good choice of food from breakfast old to lunch and dinner.just off the M8,and plenty of parking as well. They also have meeting rooms if you need them.Seem to do evening Cabernet as well.

Attended a charity ball and decided to stay over, the room was excellent, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was also excellent and staff very supportive . A huge thank you to all involved from kitchen, front desk and waiting staff. Would highly recommend this little gem to anyone and it's on the bus route to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Or a very short taxi ride to the train stations available.

I attended a Birthday party at this hotel, the hall was decorated well and was massive, the event also have a photographer really polite young lad and and all the staff i spoke to were really friendly, the manager was a polite and knew the hospitality industry really well. Great location as its close to a main road.

We recently celebrated my dads 80th birthday with a party at the Hillcroft Hotel. From the initial enquiry to the event itself we had absolute excellent service. The staff were so helpful and conducted the evening with complete professionalism. Everyone deserves credit from the receptionist, waiting and bar staff, the night porter and especially the lady who guided us through the evening. Sorry I don't have your names I have never written a review before but felt that you were all outstanding. We also stayed overnight - my husband and I had a terrific double room with a really lovely bathroom but some of our group had ground floor family rooms which were great for prams etc. We finished our stay with a hearty breakfast before heading home . Thank you all.

easily found on main road, restaurant/bar have no separation and as such service is poor. Breakfast service was poor, no real co-ordination and order not as requested. room was small but nice decor reception staff pleasent

Accommodated at short notice with walk in shower, lovely room, good service and good food. Very nice hotel. Only one drawback no lift and had a little difficulty going upstairs due to recent operation.

I have just spent a two night stay in this hotel completing exams for my work and I just wanted to say that the staff are marvellous. From the reception staff, bar staff and the maids - you are a credit to the hotel and made a nerve wracking trip like a home away from home! There knowledge of the local area, friendly advice and comforting support after finding out the reason for my trip has really been beneficial to me and I will certainly recommend to my family and friends. Book at the weekend and enter the lottery of whether there is a function taking place or not. Noise travels everywhere in this hotel - prepare for little sleep if at all before midnight and after. I can't fault many other aspects of the hotel stay however if you want a one night stay and a good nights sleep try to avoid the weekend.

usually come in here for a few drinks as passing through on way home.as it was reasonably quiet decided to stay for food.staff were very friendly,and our order came in a reasonable time.had steak which was pricey but was excellent with the usual trimmings.got busy later with we assumed were regular people who live local as a lot of them knew staff and were on first name terms.stayed for a few drinks as they had a couple of singers on in the bar area as entertainment.it is a nice bar area ,very clean and spacious,and does get busy later on as does the restaurant.all in all a nice friendly relaxed place,with attentive staff and a good place to chillm out on a saturday night....

Good value and met the requirements of my business trip. Restaurant could have been better but Bar meals were again good value with friendly helpful staff. Location suited our requirements mid way between Edinburgh and Glasgow although morning travel on the M8 was always going to be problematic. We will book again.

Excellent service, team display real empathy towards guests. Food excellent and comfortable accommodation would advise anyone to stay real value for money tourist or business. Located just off M8 10 mins from Livingston busy industrial estates and 25min from Edinburgh centre.

great three night stay bed and breakfast all staff very attentive pleasant and polite additional resterant with good food available bed clean and very comfortable this was our second stay here and didn't disappoint good access to Glasgow and Edinburgh via citylink bus so no worries about parking when you get to the city

Stayed for one night. Plenty of parking. Room had been decorated and was good. Bed however did need a new mattress. Food room service was good and fair price. Much better than my previous stays where I found rooms tired and wifi not as good.

Went for Celebration meal with family last I ordered Mussels starter when it came I noticed the pot lid was icey cold very strange as these are generally served piping hot they were only warm I didn't like to complain at first and spoil families night but after eating a few Luke warm I hit Ice in shells this is not acceptable the waitress then took back to kitchen who came back and told me I would be alright as they were precooked well this is not so as I have been wakened most of the night with tummy upset and still not feeling right this morning In my experience with seafood its debatable if there was a chef no proper chef would have presented them like that.When wine is put on a table in a cooler the top is normally removed by waiter Very disappointed M

Mushroom starter was so disappointing! Steak, tasteless, mushrooms greasy and chips undercooked!! Would most definitely not recommend the Hilcroft for a meal. The surroundings were lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful, but the meal was so overpriced that it ruined the whole evening!

Very good value for the cost paid,staff helpful and courteous clean and comfortable will use again next time in area by the way this survey requiring 200 character takes up to much of my time I will not reply again in the future

Stayed for business. Rooms small, furniture quite old. Nice bathroom though. Didn't like the bar area, dated and dim. Evening food very average, wholesome rather than special. Breakfast good plenty of choice. Staff variable, some attentive, some not so, forgot to bring menu one day, bread roll the next etc etc. Minor points but even so. Would not choose to stay here again, simply because there are better hotels for the money, better rooms and food. Also very noisy, lots of door slamming hence awake at around 6am every day. Wifi free, but very slow.

The staff were all friendly, helpful and made my stay memorable. Rooms are clean, warm and good Wifi signal. The menu is varied and food presentation and taste exceptional. .I have a dairy allergy but required no special attention as the menu was so varied.

Excellent value for money, food and service spot on. Nice room, did not have a chance to try the shower (quick visit) Very reasonable price in bar for an Hotel.! Could not fault anything. Breakfast cooked to order, pretty quick and very tasty.

Stayed on business and will certainly be back - excellent restaurant with fresh prepared food. Easy hotel to find with comfortable warm rooms and beds. Quite inside so I got a good night sleep - everything you need basically as well as very friendly staff. Brilliant

Had an amazing Hogmanay with an excellent meal, ceilidh band and disco and piper and drummer at midnight where every table was given bottles of bubbly to toast the New Year. We stayed the night in a very spacious room and had a lovely Scottish breakfast served by very friendly staff. An experience I'm sure we will repeat.

thisnis the second year in a row my family and i have went for christmas dinner and again the food was lovely and the place was set up for familiea at xmas time the staff was lovely and even had santa come round one last time before he rested for the year again. staff were so attentive and food was amazing will definatly ve making it 3 year in a row for next year

Just spent another marvelous night at this very friendly hotel. This time it was a very enjoyably Christmas party night. The hotel was looking so pretty with its new decor + festive decorations. The 3 course dinner was so delicious all our table commented on it.Beautfully presented +perfect size portions served so efficiently by friendly staff. It was a very busy function but just ran like clockwork..+the cabaret was so much fun. The welcome from the extremely friendly + helpful staff + the comfortable rooms made it a very enjoyable stay. Many thanks to owner Colin who even went out of his way to make me comfortable + supplied a footstool for my bad leg. A huge thank you to General Manager Margaret Gill who always seems to go that extra mile to make each visit special+to all her wonderful staff. Can't wait to come back ! ;-)

I spent 3 days in this hotel as part of a business trip. The room was clean and tidy and well equipped although the shower was frustrating! the water literally trickled out! The rooms had a huge TV on the wall and a good selection of channels to chose from. The bed was a little uncomfortable, the mattress was rock hard but I think more people prefer this than not, so you can't please everyone. Food in the hotel was lovely, and Dougie delivered fantastic customer service every time he was working. The staff were generally welcoming throughout my stay. Overall, great location, nice atmosphere and good value for money! I would stay again

Spent last night at this lovely hotel for a party. The function suite was beautiful and very sparkly, the buffet of rolls on sausage, bacon and chips were fresh and piping hot. The room was spotless, very modern with a lovely jacuzzi bath, and to top off a great overnight stay the full Scottish breakfast was amazing. It was freshly cooked to order and the quality of the food was excellent. We would most definitely go back to this hotel.

This was the worst bed we've ever slept in...not a double as advertised, but two singles pushed together. The left side sloped to the floor and the springs were felt ,making sleep very broken and uncomfortable. It's a shame because this let the hotel down. Please take note.

Just been to a family birthday at the Hilcroft hotel and I can't rate it highly enough. Great staff, fantastic food and the rooms were very welcoming and relaxing. We had wonderful service, great value for money. Breakfast was very hearty too. Thumbs up!

Myself and wife had wedding here and it was amazing. Venue was excellent, freshly decorated, clean and all round very nice all areas. Food was great. Rooms were great. Staff were excellent from the day we booked Margaret who organised everything for wedding was amazing. Made us feel so at ease and told us not to worry. On the day they had everything running so smoothly and there was nothing to worry about. Had an amazing day and so did all our guests. Would highly recommend the hillcroft and their team for a wedding.

Four adults agreed on this hotel as a central meeting point, and an opportunity to discuss our plans over lunch. The restaurant was not at all busy, and we were quickly shown to a table, and supplied with menu's. Drink selections were brought over, and our food order was taken. Three choices were not a problem, however, one of the party wanted soup, then a sandwich and some chips, but this request was outwith the menu and could not be delivered. " You need to take the soup and the sandwich together in order to qualify for the deal price ? " we were readily informed So instead of making things difficult, my friend had the soup, the sandwich and the chips all delivered at the one time. How difficult can it be to serve the bowl of soup, and then bring the sandwich and chips? whether it's part of "the deal" or not. Overall, the food was hot, however the pulled chicken is served in a soft bun and the bun goes soggy and disintegrates before you can get time to eat it. Empty plates were left a considerable time on the table before clearing away. The coffee served after the food, was very good. Considering the place was almost empty, it is puzzling to understand the problem my friend caused, by not ordering his food, exactly as it read on the menu. No major complaints, however, would not rush back.. As always, should you have any questions, just ask. Alistair..

This hotel is very nice and in a good location, The food was very nice and the staff were very polite and helpful. I would recommend this hotel for both the restaurant and the hotel. Overall great experience.

Room neat and tidy, bathroom modern and clean, food was divine although slightly pricey. Also slept like a log in a lovely comfy bed. No noise from nearby roads at all. Definitely go again when I'm up that way.

We had our wedding at the Hilcroft in July 2015. From start to finish Margaret and the team could not do enough. Nothing is a hassle and the stress is non existent. The food was amazing and guest continue to compliment our meal, the running of the day was very smooth and ran with military precision. Would not have wanted to be anywhere else and wouldn't change a thing. Honeymoon suite was beautiful with a lovely breakfast served in the morning. Don't think twice about booking for a wedding... You will have a great day!

First time staying overnight. Room was immaculate with a huge bathroom. Meal was excellent as always. Cocktails in the bar were good. The staff are excellent especially Colin. Cannot fault a thing about our stay. Breakfast was excellent. Coming back on 2nd October for a meal in 108 with the family for my husband Shaw's birthday.

Well what can I say. Once again Margaret, Scott and The Hilcroft Staff have gone above and beyond for us. Yesterday was our first wedding anniversary and we have planned a trip to York. We decided to start the trip with an overnight stop in at The Hilcroft for a celebratory meal. We managed to get the honeymoon suite, which was no hassle at all. Having stayed at the hotel the night before our wedding and previously for my husbands 30th I must commend all of the rooms here. I have stayed in both sides of the hotel and seen 4 different rooms. All of a high standard with all of the amenities needed. The beds are comfy. The room was warm but nothing an open window didn't solve. Food was first class (as usual) and the ba4 service for cocktails after words was lovely. The jacuzzi bath in the honeymoon suit is awesome. The full bathroom is perfect. The room is just lovely. Every time I have stayed overnight in The Hilcroft I have been well taken care off an to that end I will continue to make sure I recommend to everyone how wonderful, welcoming and great this establishment is. Be it for dinner, an overnight, a special function or of course a wedding. Thank you Hilcroft. You have not failed to impress us yet. :)

Nice hotel, great staff. I found my room looking a little tired to be fair, the bathroom was lovely and modern, great shower and I love my showers. I did eat in the restaurant and found the food superb and the prices great. I would definitely stay here again for sure.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay outside edinburgh. The staff are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to help you. The rooms are large and clean. The food is fantastic. I started out early and they made sure I had a packed lunch so I would not miss breakfast. The night porters were great and mitch went out of his way to explain travel routes. But fantastic hotel I would stay here again.

A group of 8 of us had booked for lunch here and arrived earlier than initially planned but we had warned the hotel in advance. Service was v-e-r-y slow and largely worked best when we requested attention. To be fair to the bar/waiting staff - we felt that they were simply overwhelmed by the numbers attending. Drinks were delivered exactly as requested; mains (the only course we ate) were all tasty and the fish and chips and the steak pie certainly offered generous portions. The coffees were also delivered as requested albeit later than we would have wished .. see previous comment about staffing levels.. We'd happily return for the food but would like to know that service was better staffed to encourage us to go back.
