    « Not Handicap Friendly »

Expect long walks to your room and to HC parking. HC room at the END of the hall farthest from lobby, breakfast and Front desk. Rooms OK, TV system sucked, remote with no guide and no HC/hearing impaired option.

    « One night stay »

Very clean and comfortable room. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. Right outside of the hotel is the most beautiful, peaceful walking, sitting area. I was able to take my morning coffee outside and enjoy the peacefulness. It was a wonderful experience.

« The Best of Montana »

The Great Northern has been my "go to" hotel since it opened. The staff is always friendly, the rooms set up perfectly for a comfortable stay and a bit of work in the room, and it is convenient to everything that I need to do. The steaks and wine at the Silver Star are an added treat.

    « Excellent accommodations »

Comfortable rooms. Great location. Welcoming staff. Tasty breakfast. Quiet. Within easy walking distance of many activities-- downtown, restaurants, parks, movie theater, Carroll College. Indoor pool and exercise room. Laundry facilities easily accessible. Nice lobby/lounge area with comfy chairs and tables and chairs. Efficient check in and check out. Highly recommend.

    « What a delightful stay! »

Pleasant accommodating staff, very clean spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, great coffee and good hot (free) breakfast! It was very quiet. Can't think of anything I would change! Was there for a conference - good food, service... Great staff!

« Exceptional Hotel and People »

This is a terrific hotel, Exceptional in all respects. Attended a business meeting and this hotel is immaculate; service staff could not do enough for us; and the rooms were as good as four star hotel I have stayed in. The location is quiet and I slept like a baby.

« Nice hotel. Friendly staff. »

We had a convention here. The staff seemed to try and go out of their way to get things right. Were things perfect? Of course not! The breakfast that was included was good. The crepery is right around the corner, however, and has great reviews of hotel breakfast is not what you are looking for. The rooms were clean and spacious with a refrigerator, comfy chair, and safe for your valuables.

    3
    « Too Expensive »

The cost were high for the amenities. Same as the hotels at half the cost. Cleaned the occupied rooms last. Did not like that. Breakfast was the same as a less expensive Best Western. They could at least have the same service as an Embassy for the cost.

    « Great BW property! »

We arrived late after a long road trip. The restaurant has closed and guests were being redirected to the bar. We made a request to eat in the restaurant as there was more space for wheelchair access. The manager was very accommodating. Food was fantastic! The rooms were very large. Comfortable beds, blackout curtains and nice toiletry products. The selection at breakfast was great with a lot of variety. Would stay there again!

« A treasure in the Treasure State »

I had booked this hotel at the last minute and I was blown away by every aspect of this visit. My wife and I were heading back home to Denver from Calgary and I had checked on Best Westerns in Montana. I called this hotel and I got an unbeatable rate. I'm a Diamond Select member with Best Western and the staff treated my wife and I like king and queen. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel is in close proximity of a lot of restaurants and stores. It's located in the heart of the capital city. It's about 10 minutes from I-15. And the atmosphere makes you feel like you're right at home. I will definitely return again and again.

    « Great Stay »

This place was great overall. Breakfast had tons of real food options and they changed up the main hot food every day. Staff was very friendly, room was clean and comfortable. Would certainly stay again.

    « Business Meeting Travel »

We could not have had a more convenient and "warm" atmosphere in the midst of blizzards in April. The Customer Service was excellent throughout our stay including the meeting accommodations and service. The breakfast each day is outstanding and the adjoining restaurant a nice bonus for a quiet dinner.

    5
    « Great hotel experience! »

The rooms are beautiful. The lobby is very comfortable. A full breakfast is offered at no charge. That is hard to find!! I would have to say that the room was the nicest I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in 100s.

    « A jewel of a hotel in Helena's downtown »

Was extremely surprized at the quality of the hotel in a small city. Check in was efficient and desk clerk provided good information. Room was very comfortable and clean. We didn't get to experience the restaurant as it was closed for Good Friday

    « Great place! »

Enjoyed my stay! My room was very clean which helped me to relax. The staff was very helpful and accommodating! I was pleasantly surprised to find they had Gluten free bead available upon request for breakfast. This is huge for someone who can't have regular bread. Loved the location and the historic area!

    5
« Wonderful place to stay! »

Great place overall. Check-in was very easy, staff was great. LOVED the fitness center! We ate at the Crepery next door, very yummy. The room was very comfortable, although sounds from above were amplified more than I'd like (footsteps). Couldn't hear anything through the walls, though, so that was great! Internet was nice and fast. Close to a great restaurant, too (good steaks)!

Arrived without reservation, Shane at the front desk was great, found us a room at on the second level with a view of the front square. The room was excellent with great queen beds and seating area. We arrived during a snow storm and didn't want to go out, the Sliver Star attached to the Hotel was a great place to eat with excellent service. .

Fabulous reception area and bedrooms are large and pristine. Staff very very helpful. breakfast included omelettes potatoes yoghurt fruit pastries etc. Most importantly hotel is situated in exquisite Great Northern area of town with lovely little pedestrian walkways around gorgeous gardens with waterfall sculptures and instruments like tubular bells and a keyboard you can play. For children there is a beautifully done carousel with ice cream bar next door.

    « Nicely located Hotel »

Here on business trip and this was recommended by a local. Great call! Walking distance to at least four different restaurants, a brew house, and a distillery. This time of year the streets have been impacted by the ?chinooks' and ice and melting ice is all over; thankfully they keep the sidewalks pretty clear;)!

« Great Place to Stay! »

The Best Western-Great Northern in Helena truly surpassed all of my expectations. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is top notch. I was there for business and will be returning for both business and pleasure. This hotel does the Best Western brand proud and the attention to detail and service is excellent.

    « Favorite Helena hotel »

The Great Northern Best Western is my favorite Helena hotel. Lovely accommodations, very nice breakfast, and exceptional staff throughout. The hotel is within walking distance of Carroll College plus many offices. I travel to Helena somewhat frequently on business and always cross my fingers they will be able to accommodate my need for a room at the government rate. In my experience, the front desk staff goes out of their way to fit me in. I love this place.

    5
    « Excellent hotel »

This hotel has spacious, well appointed rooms. The free breakfast is great. The location is good for walking to restaurants. It's across a busy road from Carroll College. There's a steak house and bar attached.

« could not believe what happened! »

We were driving in northern Montana in severe winter conditions on November 05,2017. We were watching the roadside bill boards for the location of the Best Western Hotel,as we were intending on staying there to build up our loyalty point. Our cell phone was nearly dead so we called the BW for directions. The operator could not tell the exit number to take and had great difficulty giving us any landmarks to guide, so we took the wrong exit, to this day we are still not sure tho! After searching for twenty minutes or so we gave up and called the BW again. As we were trying to tell the person who answered the phone our situation she put us on hold. After waiting almost 5 minutes we hung up and called back. As not only were we in unfamiliar territory, in very cold weather and icy road conditions, the cell phone was now only moments from dying and our cell pone battery charger quite working as well! Again I asked the same person not to put us on hold, as I vainly tried to keep her from putting us on hold but she did anyway! That did it, we started looking for another hotel!

    « Great Service »

I enjoyed my stay at the Great Northen Hotel. When I made my reservation, the person I talked to told me about the BWP membership that would drop my room rate by $16. She took care of the information for me so that when I showed up my membership would be at the front desk. The front desk staff were all very nice. There was even freshly made cookies that just came out of the oven when I checked in. I love the location of this hotel as it is close to the college, restraunts, coffee shops, theater, etc. My room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I liked the express checkout too. the next time I come to Helena, this is the place I plan on staying again.

« Best Hotel in the Capital of Montana - Clean, affordable & attentive staff »

Stayed in Helena and would recommend this hotel to anyone. I spend most of my nights when traveling (work or pleasure) at Starwood hotels. Helena, MT doesn't have one, so chose this place. It's in a convenient place where you can walk around the town, enjoy great restaurants and really experience Billings

« Great Hotel in a great location »

The staff and facility are excellent. The newly remodeled rooms on the third floor are well done and esthetically pleasing. Its nice being within walking distance of things to do in between meetings. The breakfast is always great, but the baked French toast was awesome! Marti and her crew never fail to provide great accommodations.

« Clean, Classy, and Helpful »

Great hotel and staff, we were here for a wedding and the staff was very helpful to the parents and the wedding party. They either had a solution or a suggestion for any problem that we presented to them. We were all very satisfied with our stay.

    « Excellent »

3rd floor rooms are nicely remodeled & roomy. The breakfast was excellent. The bed was very comfortable. Service was great. Interesting location with many attractions nearby. A great place to stay. Glad we had GPS. A bit tricky to get into.

We have stayed at this hotel four times and have enjoyed our stay each time. The property is unique and the location is good. Rooms are comfortable and are presently being renewed or have been renewed.

« The check in staff was very friendly »

.The check in staff was very friendly and helpful. The gal working the breakfast area, when asked if there were anymore of a certain idea, acted as though she didn't want to be bothered. Otherwise, the rest of the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend.

    5
    « DH »

Welcoming and helpful staff. The room was one of the best I've stayed in, in Montana. Loved the location, fun for all. There's a movie theater, carousel, dinning, and other options all in walking distance. Continental breakfast was also one of the better ones. Marked gluten free options, fresh cut fruit, hot options. Would recommend this property.

    5
« Great value in the City Center »

Staff was helpful with our arrival plans changing. Easy to unload, load, find parking and receive any help with any need, no matter how small. We could enjoy the center of the city with many lively, tasty, local color, affordable dining choices in walking distance. Lively streets after dark. Beautifully nurtured downtown, lots of young people all around. We traveled with teens and they loved the area. The hotel was spotless, the staff on the spot for anything. Comfortable privacy or interaction as requested. Our room was huge, clean, comfortable and quiet. All of this at a Best Western price. Made us want to visit Helena again soon.

« Last minute trip for a funeral »

Didn't get to book a reservation but still was treated as if we had. Beautiful hotel! Wish we had known about the rooms backed up to the swimming pool. If you have kids ask for one! Room was huge! Very nice, and very clean! Same as the rest of the hotel. Love the location as there is many nice places to eat and we went to see a movie at the theater that is only one block away! Breakfast was really good and the staff was right there for anything you might need. Best of all the front desk staff was wonderful. Can't wait to visit here again!

« Wonderful Hotel in Helena »

The Great Northern Hotel is a comfortable, elegant hotel. We had a king room - it was large and beautifully appointed in the traditional style that befits a 'railway' hotel. The breakfast was excellent with in-house fresh fruit compote, egg dishes and baked goods. The staff was very helpful with all our questions. We would definitely stay again.

    4
« Centrally located in a great downtown area. »

Very pleasant rooms, good service at front desk on check in. Room was large and nicely laid out. Bed was comfortable. This hotel is great for any stay, business and leisure. Breakfast was plentiful and food was good for a hotel breakfast.

    5
    « Great location! »

Great location for Carroll College events. The hotel was extremely clean and esthetically pleasing. The room was spacious with several amenities not found in other hotels. Lots of counter space with a sink outside the bathroom which was wonderful when the bathroom was occupied. Will stay here again.

    5
    « Wonderful Hotel! »

A bit off the beaten path (as in not off the highway....which is a good thing!) but very much worth the short drive into the downtown area. The hotel was under renovation (third floor I believe) but very much open for business and we had a very quiet and very clean room and you wouldn't know there was any construction going on! Loved the included breakfast! Great variety! Within walking distance of some great restaurants. Definetly recommend the BW Helena Great Northern Hotel and would absolutely stay here again! PS: Hotel ratings on the TA survey didn't seem to want to cooperate however I would give 5 stars for Service / Sleep Quality / Value

    5
    « Great hotel. »

Love this hotel. Best one in Helena! Great welcome, good staff, good food. The Silver Star just needs a better hostess. Easy access to anywhere in Helena. The front desk person even turned on the train above us! Fun!

    « Great Hotel !! ... Great Location !! »

Very nice Best Western property, conveniently located right downtown Helena. Staff were competent and exceptionally friendly from check-in to checkout. Our room was comfortable and quite clean, lots of large widows to make it bright and airy. Bed was comfy and the separate granite topped mini-kitchen/bar area was a nice touch. Some of the furniture was showing its age and ?experiences', but with renovations currently being undertaken, this should be addressed in the coming months. Property is easily seen from the main highway although requires a bit of a convoluted route thru unfamiliar streets to actually get to the front entrance ... once there though, it's within walking distance of the downtown core ... businesses, restaurants, pubs, etc. Speaking of which, there is an outstanding restaurant onsite if you prefer the ?white linens' treatment, or a great Brewhouse Pub & Grille just across the parking lot if you're after a wee bit wilder atmosphere along with great adult beverages and excellent food - burgers to prime rib. Breakfast is taken care of complimentary in the hotel ... a nicely presented selection of hot coffee, cold serials, fresh pastry's, eggs & sausge, etc. etc. Bottom line ... this is a great property to stay at while in the Montana State Capital, whether you're visiting friends & family, shopping, or just touring thru ... this Best Western Premier in Helena offers a comfortable and relaxing spot to hang your hat (or Stetson) for a spell !!

    « Filthy room »

My family lives in Helena - we were without hot water at home for several days and decided to spring for a nice hotel so the kids and I could get cleaned up while my husband worked on the flooded crawl space and installed the new water heater. I chose this hotel expecting a certain level of quality and cleanliness, and was grossed out by our room. For $160+ and less than 24 hours in the room, it was a huge letdown - the room had a view of a construction site and a boom lift right outside the window, and every surface in the room was covered in dust. The toilet had dried pee on it, the shower had mildew and even the glassware was gross. The bed frame had some dried white substance on it and I am sure the bedding wasn't super clean either. There were crushed up Goldfish crackers under one bed skirt and foil candy wrappers under the other, so clearly vacuuming was not done well if at all. I have never left a hotel review before, but I am disappointed that someone thought this was acceptable and gave the green light for guest check-in. The tv signal cut out multiple times and since I was stuck in a small room with 3 young kids, that was annoying. On the main floor between the lobby and the elevator, a ceiling tile was missing and a pipe was dripping water on our heads as we passed through the hallway. I alerted the front desk staff, but no bucket was placed there or any effort made to steer guests out of the path of the dripping water. The breakfast was the only saving grace - we have food allergies in our family and I was able to get gluten and dairy-free items for my kids. That was a pleasant surprise.

« Helena Montana Best Western »

This is a BEAUTIFUL Best Western!! No complaints. The rooms are wonderful, the beds are comfy, and the staff was over the top friendly! The breakfast was delicious. All the decor was perfect for a mountain town location. What more can I say, my family and I very much enjoyed our short stay in Helena.

    2
    « Dirty Room »

I got a $160 room with hair and makeup in the sink, dirt and greasy fingerprints on bathroom mirrors, crumbs and hair along edges of carpet and behind the furniture. The hotel remedy for this was giving me bonus reward points when I should have received a major reduction in the room price instead.

    4
    « Great Hotel »

This hotel was great! Wished the remodel was complete. The hotel is in a central location and minutes from the airport. The room was a little drab and dark, but nice. The lobby area and dining area are comfortable and very nice. Would highly recommend even without the remodel complete.

« Super nice, professional staff »

This Helena, MT Best Western Premier is a very nice hotel. Comfortable, clean and expertly run, the hotel has a great free breakfast. I would definitely return. But with a rental car. While there are three restaurants and small eateries nearby, the hotel is somewhat isolated from the busier part of town. ( A steakhouse attached to the hotel, an Asian restaurant and a pub/grill about a 5 mins walk from hotel). The hotel area looks brand new with a creperie , children's museum, business offices, and ice cream shop. Beautiful landscaping and historical plaques of Lewis and Clark Expedition surround the walkways. The hotel is about 7 miles from the airport and runs a free hotel shuttle. I had a 5:40am departure flight and the shuttle driver was waiting for me. Besides being in an isolated area, the hotel has a slow cleaning staff. They do a super job, but my room was not cleaned between from 9:00am to 3:30pm. I purposely left the room early and did not return until 3:30 to give the staff time to clean my room, replace towels, etc. I decided to wait in the comfortable lobby with a lit fireplace, until the room was done. I certainly recommend this hotel but be sure you have a car, if you plan on doing any sightseeing.

« Best place in Helena to stay..bar none »

This is a great hotel. They do the little things right and the big things are just the way they go about it. Great staff, great rooms, good value. It may not be the least expensive but provides the best value.

Had a great nights sleep--loved the pillows they were just right and I slept great. I will stay here when I am in Helena as it was like sleeping in my own bed. I loved the cookies when I arrived to check in. They were in the shape of Montana and it was very nice touch to get me thru until I could get dinner.

    « Charming hotel »

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and have been extremely satisfied every time. The hotel staff is extremely courteous and they go above and beyond to make the stay great! The hotel is in excellent condition. Our hotel room was very clean and cozy. The breakfast had a nice variety of food and fresh cut fruit which I really appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel as it is close to the college and has a charming downtown with excellent restaurants and shopping.

« Excellent hotel near college and businesses »

Our stay at the Great Northern was exactly what we were looking for. The lobby area was nice, staff was helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable. The wi-fi worked well. While the parking isn't ideal, there are restaurants, a movie theater, and small "science center" for kids just steps from the hotel. The hot breakfast buffet was good, and there were coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available in the lobby. (We also appreciated the to-go items available the morning we checked out as we had to leave at 5am, before breakfast had started.) This was our first time in Helena, but this seems to be one of the nicer, more upscale hotels available. The only issue we had was that our key cards repeatedly inactivated and would not work. We had to have them "re-keyed" several times (after going to our room on the 3rd floor). Other than that, this hotel is a solid choice. We would stay there again.

    « Helena MT »

Came to town for a soccer tournament and very pleased with the accommodations. Very clean Hotel and the staff were extremely friendly. Was a little disappointed with the breakfast; but overall we would recommend and stay here again!

« Excellent hotel, great staff »

This was a one night stopover on the way to Yellowstone, rather an odd location, set in a strangely deserted precinct maybe it was just deserted as it was Saturday, but easy to find from the main road). It's also situated within a 2 or 3 minute walk to the excellent Brewhouse Pub and Grille. Very pleasant check in staff and on check out we were asked if we had a good night's sleep, which we had. It's these little touches that you remember. We had a large room on the 2nd floor with twin huge beds and a TV with views across Helena. There was also a large pool which I had to myself and I was quite surprised to see that about 10 rooms opened out directly into the pool area - lucky them! Breakfast was a help yourself affair and the coffee was good ? the same that was available in the room, the Montana Coffee Traders I think. As I don't drink cow's milk I asked for soya milk which they had as well, I was impressed. This was a very pleasant, comfortable modern hotel with very good and helpful staff, we could have happily stayed longer

    « Overall »

Overall the staff is friendly, helpful, courteous. Breakfast is always good. Appearance of hotel, staff, etc, very nice. In the past yearly visits staying at this hotel, I have encountered only one safety issue & the desk person responded very quickly & efficiently to my need.

« Great Place to Stay in Helena! »

Great location and friendly/service oriented staff! Would recommend the BW- Helena to fellow travelers. The breakfast bar is quality meal that is more than just bagel, fruit, and cereal. Several good dining options are within walking distance to the hotel.

« Great Stay Great Northern »

I have had the opportunity to stay at the Great Northern for several years during the Montana Nurses Association Annual Conference. The Great Northern is always great to us-for starters they give us a block of rooms with a great rate. Everything in the room worked-internet was easy to access, lighting was good and my favorite the heater worked and they had a fan to drown out the outside/hall/other room noise. There was a refrigerator for my beverages, a microwave and tea for me-I was in heaven Meals are awesome-we ate every 2 hours even on the last day when we stayed late. The meals were tailored to the theme of the conference this year. Snacks were plentiful and nutritious. The continental breakfast was great with eggs every morning, potatoes and a meat plus oatmeal, cold cereal and a variety of juices. There were bagels and yogurt plus fruit, the best was their french toast bake-it was truly divine. pitchers of ice water and glasses were plentiful in the conference room The room was clean, the bed firm with plenty of pillows. The bathroom had a makeup wash cloth, and my favorite a rubber bath mat for the tub. Plenty of towels and the soaps, shampoo/conditioner and mouthwash smelled of oranges-very relaxing. There were a makeup mirror and hairdryer, plus iron and ironing board. The staff were awesome. Very attentive to our needs, cleared away unused dishes from our tables. They were friendly, courteous and very willing to attend to any of our needs. We almost always had some one in the conference room to assist with the audio stuff. I did not utilize the other amenities such as an excerise room or the pool. I had to stay at another hotel twice this summer in another state-I can easily say the other hotel was a dump compared to the Great Northern. The Great Northern is a great place to stay and have a conference. All in all Good Job Great Northern

    « GREAT STAY »

compared to the other hotels I stayed in this year the Great Northern was absolutely EXCELLENT-Great breakfast-esp. loved the baked french toast, rooms had adjustable heat with fan to drown out outside noise, plenty of towels, slip mat for bathtub, hair dryer and make-up mirror, everything worked well. There was coffee as well as tea in the room. At the conference we were fed every 2 hours, with coffee, tea, and lemonade with a variety of healthy snacks. The bed was great with plenty of pillows. The staff, all of them were very courteous, friendly and very attentive. It was a GREAT stay THANK YOU

« Great Hotel for a Business Trip »

This was a great place to stay for a quick business trip. We stayed two nights and had no issues. The rooms are spacious with a nice desk for working. We ate all of our meals within a few blocks of the hotel and had great food everywhere we went, including at the attached Silver Star where we had lunch. Staff were friendly, and the rooms and lobby were clean and inviting.

« Very pleasant experience, dependable. »

Very attractive hotel, nicely decorated throughout. Quiet rooms, comfortable and secure. First-time access to the hotel is a little confusing, especially at night (happened to be a stormy night for me). Parking for unloading/loading is a bit tight when the hotel is very busy. Good access to nearby restaurants, bistro, and entertainment.

« Wonderful Location and Top-Notch Best Western »

Excellent location downtown. Excellent restaurants within walking distance. Easy access to the Interstate and main arterials. Nicely furnished clean rooms with excellent views. Excellent breakfast and nice amenities such as the indoor pool and exercise room. Located in a safe and interesting part of town.

« One of our favorite Hotels »

We have stayed here many times over the years, the staff are always friendly, the rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. The free breakfast offers a wide range of food and for dinner the adjoining Silver Star Steak House is one of the best restaurants in town. Only a few minutes walk from the historic downtown, the hotel is conveniently located.

    « nice but expensive »

This hotel was very nice. The breakfast was excellent. I bought two sacks of snacks at the check in desk and was over charged. This was very irritating as the room cost more than I thought it should and then to be over charged for the two snacks was really irritating.

    « Great value »

Great value and one of the best Best Westerns we have ever stayed at. Nice room and amenities. Breakfast area was very nice and the breakfast was really good. As nice, if not nicer, as any of the Fairfields, Hampton Inns, or Holiday Inns we have stayed at. Would stay here again as a first choice if we are in Helena, MT, again.

« A two night break after hiking in Glacier »

An unexpected enjoyable time in Helena a delightful small town. The hotel was the average business hotel with the usual amenities, car parking and breakfast. A gas log fire in the foyer made it look very inviting. The location in the "new" part of town was a disappointment as there was little there. Breakfast was fine in a very pleasant room with a very cheerful bus girl. The Concierge was not very familiar with local restaurants and could only mention the one with the hotel which was very poor.

« Excellent position for exploring Helena »

This was a super hotel. It is easy walking distance to the sights of Helena and is situated near to an atmospheric bar and grill that does great, reasonably priced food. There is a large free car park just round the corner and around the hotel are pedestrianized streets that have such as lunch time concerts, a table tennis table, trees and sculptures. Service was always friendly and helpful.

« Great service, great room »

We had to stay overnight as we were experiencing power outages at home and the repairs were taking quite a bit of time. When we arrived, LaToya was at the front desk and was extremely helpful finding us the perfect room for the 2 of us and our little dog - even finding a great rate. The room was one of the best I've stayed in outside of B&B's and luxury hotels.

« Great location, Nice decor »

I was very impressed with this hotel- the décor of the rooms was luxurious, and the breakfast was above average- I was particularly a fan of the fruit cups and the Nutella that they offered! It is located in a trendy little area of Helena with the movie theatre just a few steps away and some good restaurants. I would recommend this to anybody staying in Helena!

« Great stay in downtown Helena »

My husband and I had a great stay in this hotel in downtown Helena. Walking distance to local shopping and restaurants. Carousel, Children's Museum and grounds and ice cream shop next door. Lap pool (sort of) and well-equipped fitness center. Dog friendly. Walking distance to Carroll College and fabulous dog park. This was a great home base to our travels out of the area to see Gates of the Mountains, Holten Lake, ghost towns, museums and plenty of hiking/biking opportunities. City park even has a mountain and trails. This is our 2nd great experience with Best Western Hotel this year. Two chairs to relax in in the room was a bonus. Silver Star restaurant next door had local offerings well served. The bison steak was particularly delicious. Good wine list, to boot. Enjoy!

    « Great experience »

The staff was friendly and they are always happy to accommodate for any situation. We stay here at least 4 times a year and the service is always great. The location and surrounding area is also very welcoming and calm.

« Wonderful hotel in Helena »

This hotel is the best of the Best Western brand. From the front desk staff to the toiletries are wonderful. The cookies at the front desk were lovely and the hot chocolate, tea and coffee in the front lobby were a nice touch. The attached restaurant is very pricey so we opted to get our dinner from Brewhouse nearby, which was so delicious and more moderately priced.

« Friendly excellent service - every time! »

When staying at a lovely place like this - it is expected that the guest rooms will be clean and nicely appointed. It is expected that the food and drink will be high quality and well presented. What keeps me coming back to this location is the consistently friendly, professional and thoughtful staff. They remember me from one visit to the next and go the extra mile to ensure my stay is pleasant. It's just one of the important qualities that's sets this property above the rest.

« Excellent hotel in great location! »

This hotel is in a great location with several dining options, breweries, and sites within walking distance. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The service was excellent. The breakfast offered plenty of options. Definitely recommend this place to anyone (family travel, couples, solo, work, play)!

    « Untrustworthy »

Worst hotel experience I've ever had. Had reserved a room for the week, but after the first night I received a call that all of my possessions had been removed from the room. Upon further explanation, I was told that there was a mistake in the reservation system and that I really shouldn't be upset. When I got back from a long day at work my bag and several things were at the front desk, zippers open and loose items with it. Still have no idea if everything was returned. Needless to say I cancelled the reservation for the rest of the week and will be staying elsewhere. I consider the management of this hotel untrustworthy and my company and I will not be returning.

    « Nice »

Very nice place to stay, nice people, clean rooms and building, great Steak House and Bar attached to Hotel. Easy access to Coffee house, nice walking paths. Quiet place to be. Little hard to get to but when you do get there, it is perfect.

« Great hotel and location »

This hotel is located in the middle of many things to enjoy. Kella help us reserve our room prior to our visit and John double checked our reservation about a week before we arrived. We also talked with Jasmine regarding bring our pet. She was able to answer all of our questions. All were very helpful and pointed out several things we could do while we were there (including areas for our dog to exercise). There are shops right out the front door - very family friendly. There's a large park just a few mins walk away - jogging trail, soccer fields, open grassy space, etc.

    « Great Stay »

The Best Western is a lovely hotel in a quiet part of town, close to everything. The rooms are nicely decorated as is the lobby. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful to us, making us feel very welcome. Breakfast was varied and well done. Liked having fresh fruit available.

    « Slipping? »

We stayed here recently while passing through Helena, as we often have in the past. We felt the Great Northern was slipping a bit. The desk agents weren't as friendly as in the past, and the hotel seems to be getting a bit tired. The rooms were okay but the beds were too soft for our liking. The fitness room is also quite inadequate. It is however, in a nice location and they provide a nice breakfast.

I stayed there during a recreational and workshop stay. It was very quiet and comfortable, leaving me the energy to enjoy my trip and my workshop experience. Located in a beautiful relaxing area. A rich art area, including the Archy Bray Foundation clay center just out of town. Lots of practicing clay artists in the area.

« Short trip to airport »

We really liked the location, ambiance, and attentiveness to our needs. We were only there for an overnight stay with early trip to airport, so didn't really get to take advantage of all the amenities. However, we loved the cookies and we would definitely plan to stay there on an extended trip to Helena.

    « Road Trip »

We can always count on Best Western, but the Great Northern Hotel in Helena was a real treat. The Great Northern Town Center location is adjacent to a pedestrian walking street, Last Chance Gulch Boardwalk, which is filled with trendy restaurants and shops, and a short ride to the State House for a tour, and the Mansion area to view the beautiful homes. The hotel is new, the rooms are spacious and the service was excellent. The Silver Star Steak restaurant attached to the hotel was excellent, and the free breakfast was fast, easy and delicious as we headed out in the morning.

« Just so much hair and $25 »

I honestly feel sad having to leave this review, but feel as if it's something I need to do after my experience. This is not against anyone who works at the front desk of the hotel, including the manager. This review DOES include the general manager however, who ultimately made the decision as to how she would handle my problem. So, we came through Helena, MT on our road trip and were happy to book a room at this Hotel as we've stayed at many Best Western Hotels in the past and always had good experiences. When we got into our room, I notice that there was a lot of hair in the bottom of the bathtub to find out it was because when it was cleaned the drain was very clogged and so it backed up, causing the hair to stick to the tub as it drained. I alerted the staff up front of the issue, whom were very friendly and helpful, however attempts to unclog the drain were unsuccessful, so we were moved to another room. This was about 11pm at night, which was very frustrating, but I understand sometimes these things happen. I didn't complain and gladly moved rooms and the man up front said he would be sure we got a discount on our room. We moved to our new room. The bathroom had not been cleaned well. There were numerous random hairs on the bathroom floor, the soap shelf in the bathtub has old, crusted soap on it from the previous tenant, there was no coffee and an old, wet coffee pod left in the coffee maker. We were super disappointed and honestly felt grossed out, wondering what other corners had been cut by the cleaning staff if this is the standard of "clean". The morning we checked out, I kindly spoke with the Manager, even pulling her aside into the sitting area because I didn't want it to be awkward of embarrassing for the Hotel or for her personally. She was fantastic, apologetic and wanted to make it right, stating that she was mortified by the entire thing and thanked me for being kind about it. I told her that yes, I am disappointed and for the price we paid for our room, I felt something needed to be done to compensate our experience, yet also told her I wanted the Hotel to be aware of this so that they can change supervision and standards that are being set for their cleaning staff, since there is clearly a problem. Again, the Manager was great. I was told by her that she would call me and let me know what could be done to compensate us for the troubles. She called me a few hours later and informed me that her General Manager had made the decision to compensate us for $25 off of the fee we paid for the room. I was extremely disappointed and told her that. She told me that this decision was made by her Manager. I am so disappointed. I expected much more from a Best Western PREMIERE! Very expensive Hotel, who has a standard that is typically set very high. Again, I feel badly to speak so harshly, but this is unacceptable.

    « Grossest "Nice" Hotel »

Location is awesome- Movie theatre, exploration works, several restauarants and carousel very close. Main lobby area is clean. Breakfast bar is good. But the rooms... First room- popcorn, beer bottle cap, contact case under bed; somebody's chargers still plugged into wall; hot pocket in fridge; more popcorn under dresser. Second room- someone's old salad in fridge, didn't look much beyond that. Both of the first two rooms were cleaned by the same gal so I asked front desk attendant to please switch to a room not cleaned by this individual. Keep in mind, it is now around 10:30pm and I have been up since 4am and have to get up again at 4am. The third room is the only one that doesn't have old food in it--- well there's popcorn under the bed again, but at least no perishable food. It did have a used wax covered q tip in the window ledge and a musty old man smell. I felt like Monica from friends asking to switch rooms so many times. I hate to be picky, but you expect a high standard in a hotel whose rooms go for around $170/night (I booked under a special rate, but that was the normal going rate last night). Because I was tired and it was so late I didn't want to do it again. So I dealt. I know housekeeping is not an easy job, and it seems apparent to me this may be an issue with housekeeping management on top of individual housekeepers. Typically in nice hotels, a spot check is done by a supervisor before signing off on room. Does GN Best Western skip this step? I'm also mystified as to how this is rated the current #1 on for Helena hotels on trip advisor. Residence Inn or Comfort Suites are far more comfortable and clean. And as a final note- no form of compensation what-so-ever was offered. The front desk attendant was extremely kind and helpful- but moving to three different rooms late in the evening after a long day when you're ready to settle down and sleep is not going to make you want to go back to a hotel ever.

    « Very satisfied »

We had a very nice room, the bed was super comfy. The only problem we had was our key cards didn't work and we had to go back to the front desk twice. Frustrating but all & all, we had a great stay! Great location downtown.

    5
    « Downtown surprise »

Many times downtown hotels are rather so-so. Our experience this time was surprisingly different. The Helena Great Northern went way past the call of duty in being helpful. The front desk staff has all the answers...not matter the question. We'll be back.

    « Helena Haven »

The Best Western Premiere Great Northern Hotel in Helena, Montana, was one of the nicest Best Westerns I have stayed at. It was definitely on the pricey end for a Montana hotel, but worth the money. We were totally satisfied with the room, the bed, the breakfast, and the location. We walked almost everywhere we needed to go, and felt totally taken care of by the staff. This is THE place to stay in Helena!

« Amazing place in great location »

Very friendly and helpful staff, our room was very clean, the swimming pool was amazing on a 95 degree day and we had a great time! It was walking distance (less than a mile) to Last Chance Gulch and the walking mall with wine shops, fine dining, candy shop, great art, shopping and much more. We will definitely stay again when our travels to take us to Helena.

This place is class all the way. Beautiful railroad themed decor. Friendly helpful staff. Spacious comfortable rooms with great beds. Check-in and check-out were fast and easy. Hot tub was great. Silver Star Steakhouse off the lobby had excellent food and service - make a reservation because it's packed!

    5
    « Excellent hotel overall »

The room was clean and roomy, the staff very friendly, the decor pleasing, the breakfast provided in the room rate was excellent. Although the weekend hours could have been and hour longer. The only drawback is no parking directly connected to the hotel. Parking is in public lots close to the hotel, but even a half block walk matters when it's 100 degrees outside or raining.

« A Treasure in the Treasure State »

This is a wonderful hotel in a wonderful location . This is a unique Best Western. You really haven't stayed in one like this before. The only problem is that it is always full.

The Great Northern Hotel is in Historic Downtown Helena, surrounded by eclectic shops. It is within walking distance of Last Chance Gulch, the site of an 1864 gold discovery and pedestrian mall. The Great Northern was a great hotel. We enjoyed our stay and took a dip in the hot tub. A trip to Helena, Montana's Capitol, is well worth the visit.

« You want be disappointed »

Hotel is very nice. It is in a nice location with plenty of dining within walking distance. The desk staff was great. We had a minor problem upon entering our room and the staff was very apologetic and upgraded us to a new room immediately upon learning of the problem. They have cookies for you at check in. Rooms are comfortable.

« Clean hotel but not for a Sunday stay »

Hotel was very clean very spacious and friendly book in, you had to park in a town car park so could only stop in front of the hotel to check in, you got a voucher for the car park. Room was well appointed a laundry on site. Located for easy walking to town although a little tricky to find your way, very quite on a Sunday with most places being closed so eating out a little difficult, there are lots of car parks here so I suspect it is more of a conference area and would be busier in the week

    « Great stay »

This is a beautiful hotel in a great location. Enjoyed the breakfast and quiet rooms. The pool and hot tub were especially nice. Large pool for motel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was easy too. Ate at the Brewery next door and also enjoyed the ice cream shop. Families with small kids would love this as there's also a carousel and children's museum as well as nice movie theater all nearby.

« All Around Great Experience! »

We enjoyed a 4-night stay at the Best Western Premier Great Northern Hotel while in town for our nephew's wedding. We have nothing but great things to say about it! The staff were all friendly and very helpful. When my mother-in-law fell and broke her glasses, they helped us find a place that could get them fixed late in the day. The breakfast was a step up from the usual hotel buffet fare, and the dining staff were great at keeping everything fresh and refilled and the dining room very clean. Our king room was very nice and comfortable. We loved the "grab and go" bags they had available to take when heading out for the day; the apple, granola bars and water were just perfect for keeping us going until dinner time. And when we had to catch an early flight there were granola bars and fruit available to grab for a very early breakfast. The hotel is connected to a steak house with a bar, and we took advantage of the opportunity to wind down with a nightcap each night we were in town. This hotel does a great job of making sure all the bases are covered so guests can relax and enjoy their time in Helena. Now that our nephew has made Helena his home, we know we'll be back, and you can be sure we'll be staying here again!

We enjoyed our stay at The Best Western in Helena, we stayed for one night on our journey from Glacier National Park to Yellowstone but would have liked to stay longer. The hotel room was very spacious, our room was located above the reception area and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and there was very little noise from other areas. The hotel is tucked away on a quiet side street about half a mile from downtown Helena. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome.

« Really lovely hotel and lovely people »

The hotel is perfectly located in Helena, walking distance from a lot of great restaurants (shout out for Toi's Thai) and watering holes (do not miss Gulch Distillers). Room beautiful and spotless. Very comfortable. The staff is very nice and helped us accommodate two room changes, once when we wanted to go from a room with two queens to one with a king, and once when we had to extend our stay because our dog had to be hospitalized. Everyone at the desk knew about our trauma and always asked about the dog. Very sympathetic. The lap pool was a great stress reliever. I highly recommend the Great Northern.

    « Great Place »

We really enjoyed our stay at The Great Northern. It is a beautiful hotel with GREAT staff. the breakfast was really nice too. We brought our little dog and the Pet rooms were still really nice and comfortable. They have a really nice courtyard outside the Hotel with great grassy areas for the dog to go to the bathroom.

    « Hairy sheets »

I'm glad all they have was a two queen room for me to occupy. The first bed I turn down had somebody else's hair on the sheets. This is a real turn off. Also they put me in the basement in the view was of a belowground parking. Hotel was relatively expensive considering Parry sheets and no view. Otherwise everything was as expected in pretty good quality.

« Best hotel of our trip. »

I was on the same bus tour as Diane M, during which we were in a lot of hotels in five states. This was the best we experienced. The room was comfortable, but the standout in my memory was the staff and the breakfast. I had some business that had to be done timely and at an odd time due to time zone issues, and the staff could accommodate my needs well. The breakfast was by far the best we had in our two weeks. And the staff went our of their way to make our stay easier and more pleasant. Wonderful stay, would highly recommend.

The location is wonderful and within walking distance to historic downtown Helena, with its western type quaintness. The hotel is well kept and clean, which for a road warrior is important especially the sheets and bedspreads. The desk is quite large and the connection to the Internet was easy and quick. Too many times it takes multiple times to connect but not so at the Northern. The rooms are quite large compared to the tiny rooms in other hotel chains with nice furnishings. Breakfast was very good and I enjoyed the fruit in the small glasses that are refrigerated versus the expired fruit you often times find in the bowls at other chains. Breakfast, which is my favorite meal, consisted of a choice of scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, potatoes, and fruit as described above and of course the healthy alternatives such as granola and cereal. Business travelers and tourists alike should be pleased. I had dinner at the adjacent steakhouse and the food was fabulous with some wonderful steak choices. Although these items are a little pricey they also offer some very reasonably priced items for those like me that have an expense restriction on meals when traveling. I have always stayed at this hotel and actually find the Best Western chain in Montana to be extremely nice properties.

« Wonderful Hotel in the Center of Helena »

We had never stayed here before and didn't know what to expect. We were surprised that it was not a typical Best Western property. You pull up to the front, register, and unload your luggage and park in a parking lot a block away. We were impressed with the elegant lobby. The room was very nice with a sink in the bath and another in the outer area which is so convenient. What impressed us the most was ceramic cups for coffee and glass glasses instead of plastic. The breakfast was great with breakfast sandwiches, waffles and omelet selections. The adjoining steak house was a bit expensive but we found items we enjoyed and not too expensive. The family-style salad was superb!

Wonderful hotel and room. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Located right in downtown Helena which is a great place to visit.

« No Reservation About Recommending This Hotel »

This is the second time I have stayed here while on business. Great location, nice dining option adjoining the hotel, clean, comfortable room, and excellent breakfast spread. In addition, the lobby and common area are spacious and airy with ample seating options for connecting with friends or sitting down with a laptop to get some work down. Highly recommended!

« Modern, new Best Western »

Very nice hotel with Great Northern Rail theme. Staff friendly and helpful. No valet parking or assistance that we noticed and the lot is not quite a block walk, so consider dropping your luggage at the door if you have more than easily carried/rolled. Room was very large and nicely furnished, comfortable beds, large bathroom and nice towels and linens. The room showed some lack of cleaning like nail clippings on bathroom floor and a bandaid on floor beside the bed and that was disappointing for a "premier" hotel. Nice breakfast included. Good coffee with both medium and bold choices. Very nice connected restaurant and bar.

I love this hotel---first class in all ways! I recommend it to anyone who visits Helena on business or otherwise. The location is central to all the action in the city. The staff could not be more accommodating. A very pleasant experience for sure.

My son has attended Carroll College for the past 4 years. Over the years we have mostly stayed at the Best Western. A couple of times we had to stay elsewhere because the hotel was book. No other place provides the caliber of service that the Best Western does. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is impeccably neat. It is a top notch experience!

    « A little hidden gem »

This place is a little hidden gem the hotel was fantastic the service was to die for there is a steak restrant in this hotel and oh my the steak was fantastic well worth the money after dinner we went for a walk the atmosphere reminds me of a board walk The only thing I would say that needs to be improved is the comfort of the bed I rated the bed a 6 but other than that I would go back in a heart beat

« Best Western Premier Helena Great Northern Hotel »

I attended a conference in Helena 2 summers ago (2015 not 2016) and really enjoyed staying at this hotel. My room was on the main floor, spacious and well-decorated, with a good view. I ate in the coffee shop in the morning and the buffet (included in the price at that time) was really good. The location of the hotel is very central as it is within walking distance to many attractions, including Carroll College. The staff were helpful and friendly and the shuttle service (to the airport and the greyhound staton) was very efficient. A great place to stay in Helena.

« Good experience in Helena. »

Stayed at the Best Western Great Northern for three nights for business. It's a well-maintained facility with clean, comfortable rooms. The breakfast had a good selection -- not gourmet but decent food. The lunch served by the hotel during one of the meeting days was also pretty good. Most things in the city are walkable from the hotel and parking is free with your stay. The desk staff were pleasant and accommodating.

« Poor Check in Experience »

I had to wait 3 hours to get into my room. The front desk was appologetic but unhelpful. I was the only one waiting in the lobby. It wasn't until I told the front desk that I was going to another hotel that my room was suddenly ready.

The Great Northern Hotel always offers an excellent experience. From the cookies when you check in, to the friendly front desk staff, to the excellent accommodations. Located in walking distance from the Cinema, great restaurants, and local business, it is a great place to stay for business and leisure travelers alike.

« Excellence in the capitol city... »

First time stay on business in town at the Great Northern, glad I booked here. Staff is friendly and professional. The building appears new and is well laid out. Breakfast was option rich and the breakfast room is warm and inviting. Rooms were nicely decorated as is the hotel with train themes. Wi fi is strong and free. Located in the downtown you are close to everything. Can't go wrong with the property...

    « Beautiful facility! »

I went for a convention. The food was outstanding during our event! The staff was extremely helpful. The hotel was within walking distance to Carrol College so we could walk to conference classes. It was a little hard to find when I first got there. Poor signage. I was looking for the hotel name and Best Western sign. The sign was BWP.

Looking for a classy and comfortable stay? Hands down best hotel in Helena. Eat at the Silver Star and you won't be disappointed. Location is central to any place you would like to go and you can walk to the majority of them.

    « Convenient to Caroll »

We stayed here for a visit to Carroll College. The hotel is walking distance to the college, and to restaurants, shops and a movie theater. Had a little mix up when we arrived, but only because they upgraded us to a king room, instead of the two queen we needed. Staff was quick to get the room squared away. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. We didn't have a lot of time at the hotel, so I can't really comment on the other amenities.

    « Family Wedding »

It was nice and centrally located with restaurants and family activities close by. The signage wasn't that great, but we had a nice time. We enjoyed the 2 restaurants nearby and it was close to the wedding venue.

« Rude Front-Desk Staff and Bizarre Location »

For a hotel with such high ratings, I was incredibly disappointed!! To start: the front desk staff. When we checked in there were two younger women working (one dark haired, one blond), and we found them to be annoying and rude. I checked in and gave all our information while my partner walked our dogs. Then I went out to the car to unload luggage, gave him a room key, and he went to take the dogs into the hotel room. Upon entering, he was confronted by the front desk women: "Excuse me, sir - are you a guest here?" Umm, yes - he has a room key, and he's bringing in the two little dogs I just described to them just minutes before. He answered yes, and said that I (his friend) had just checked in. They asked, "Who's your friend?" He had to give my name before they'd let him proceed. And why do they have to greet you with "Hello" every single time you walk by the front desk? As I was walking past the front desk for the third time as I moved in luggage to our room, I heard - yet again - the sound of "Hello"... "Hello". By the time I realized she was talking to me and I turned to look at her, she was turning away with a snarky expression on her face. Rude. I had another annoying encounter with one of the front desk women, but think I've said enough already. And the location is... weird. Bizarre pseudo-"downtown" that looks like a fully pre-planned homogenized "Stepford" area. Absolutely no character. A few restaurants. The hotel is dog-friendly, but there's not much in the way of dog-friendly spaces nearby, other than a couple bits of grass by the parking lot. I really disliked the location, almost as much as I disliked the check-in staff (I will say that the older lady who checked us out the next morning was much nicer!). The hotel itself is nice, and the room was very nice indeed - spacious and very nicely appointed, with quality products in the bathroom. We were annoyed by the thermostat in the room as we couldn't change the temperature setting, and it was quite warm, but by the time we had returned from dinner and undressed for bed, we didn't want to bother complaining to the front desk about it - we just pulled back the blankets and slept under a sheet. The next morning breakfast was standard and unremarkable. We definitely would NOT return to this hotel.

    « Disappointed Again »

The property is located in a convenient location and is generally clean and functional. BUT .. every time I stay there, I ask myself why I am doing this to myself. The staff is distance and cool. Not friendly and inviting. This last visit was due a family emergency and I had traveled the entire week before arriving. I dropped of my laundry on Saturday as I need to stay longer than anticipated. No longer back Saturday. None Sunday. Running back and forth to the hospital - I stopped by the front desk in the afternoon to check on the status. The young lady at the front desk treated the request like it was inconvenience and then after looking gave me a bag and said "Here they are, Are these clean ?" like she couldn't tell on her own looking in the bag that they were all dirty. Then they had to call the manager only to tell me 10 minutes later that they don't have laundry services on Saturday or Sunday. This hotel always has problems getting the little things right - reservations, cleaning rooms (which they didn't do on Sunday), .... It always gives you the feeling that it has bad culture, weak management, lack of attention to details and poor selection of staff and staff training. I promised myself I wouldn't stay there again - this was the last time.

« Excellent place to stay »

The rooms in this hotel are amazing and the service is excellent! They are very clean and provide you with anything you need. You have to know how to get to this hotel to find the parking, it is not easy. However, there is a good place to walk in the neighborhood. The restaurant and breakfast provided are delicious and well-prepared.

    « A Perfect Getaway Place »

This is our second time staying here. Our first was during Christmas and because of our wonderful time then we decided to return. This time it was even better!! The front office manager Ann Marie Bowers was so helpful with planning our special occasion and far exceeded any expectations:). First arriving it felt like coming home and being a part of the family. Brandon was so helpful and made sure everything was just right for us. Any questions we had he made sure we had an answer. When checking out Jasmine was wonderful making sure everything was correct. The hotel restaurant was great, our waiter Andy...who has a good name!! provided very good service and the food was wonderful. The location of this hotel is perfect, right in the center and easy to get around. Helena is a great city with friendly people and our home away from home. Thank you Ann and staff for a wonderful stay!!. See you again soon:):)

Worth the extra few minutes off the highway. Good hotel with excellent breakfast included. Nice restaurants and a large Cinemark theatre close by. The Cathedral and the Civic Centre are close by. The Civic Centre looks like a mosque but was built as a Shriners Hall.

    « Very nice »

Great location. Right down by a bunch of little shops and cute stuff (restaurants, pubs, movie theater). I think I paid around $145 for my room. Staff were courteous, kind, smiling, accommodating, professional. Hotel was CLEAN and decorated so nicely throughout. No issues with parking. Big pool and convention accommodations. Breakfast was simple but nice (DIY waffles, juices, cereals and some hot stuff like premade omelets, breakfast potatoes and sliced ham served hot in chaffing dishes). Of course there was coffee and tea. They had no half and half. Just non-dairy creamers that are shelf-stable at room temp (if you're cool with that-okay, but if you need CREAM in your coffee you'll be sad). :) I travel for work quite a bit and this is one of the nicest Best Western's I've seen. The night before I was at a different BW that left much to be desired. THIS ONE WAS GREAT THOUGH.

« Likely the best choice in Helena, fairly average »

I will preface my comments by saying the Helena hotel market overall is fairly lack luster. While the quantity of hotels exists, the premium market is fairly nonexistent. In general I'm a Hilton loyalist but decided the Hampton property was far too removed from the city center and wanted something convenient, so I opted for the Great Northern. While not overall impressive, after many stays around Helena for business I would still reccomend the Great Northern Best Western over any competitors. As mentioned the location is the best selling point of this property. It is located across the street from the college and maybe 10 minutes walk from the main downtown area. I was in town for business and also thought the wifi connection was quite good, and the adjoined Silver Star restaurant was great. On this particular stay I found the bathroom to be filthy. One of the dirty cleaning towels had been left hanging on the rack and there was a large stain of something covering the curtain in the shower in addition to the hair left throughout the shower area. On the plus side, the rooms are very large and feature two sinks, one outside the bathroom and one inside. I also found the bed and pillows to be comfortable. The included breakfast wasn't over the top but was good. Bottom line, when nearly all hotels in Helena are priced within about $20-30 of each other, it makes sense to spend a little extra for a nice location.

« Even without Electricity they gave us great service »

Over Labor Day weekend we stayed at the Great Northern for multiple nights with family members. The hotel was full due to a rival football game at Carroll College, Class Reunions, and several weddings. Every employee in the hotel was spot on and addressed our needs...even a request to switch one room due to not wanting to be next to the elevator. They serve a nice breakfast with homemade french toast on some of the days. It's a real treat and make sure you try it. The staff in the breakfast area worked diligently to keep the tables cleaned with so many guests. We were impressed by their professionalism especially when an electrical outage for many hours occurred due to a car accident. They posted employees on each floor and in the stairwells to make sure all guests were safely cared for. They still served a good breakfast that day and managed to keep food coming out even with no electricity! They also did not let the lack of functioning computers disrupt the front desk with checking out. They were quick and efficient. Hours later my email receipt arrived as promised. We would stay here again as the location is not far from the airport and central to multiple attractions in Helena...the Carousel and restaurants are easy access. We will be back for another stay as we plan to fish the Mighty MO again. Thank you to our local fly fishing guide for recommending this hotel and to the wonderful people who work at the Great Northern

    « good conference venue »

I have stayed here before for another meeting - and it does have good meeting rooms and organization. The bar seemed a little overwhelmed by the number of people so service was pretty slow though they were working hard. One day they missed cleaning my room (but quickly came when I called). I like the location, pretty cool place overall.

    « Excellent »

Amenities and services are excellent. Fitness center is very complete and equipment in excellent condition, which is a rarity among hotels today. Breakfast was also very good - nice variety, ample gluten free alternatives, and healthy choices, another rarity today. Location is nice - clean, safe, with restaurant options very convenient. Also an excellent park and walking trails in immediate vicinity.

« Great location and very nice »

Staff was friendly and helpful. This was our first stay at this hotel. It is a bit pricey but includes a nice breakfast and is easy to find. Parking was near by. Beds were good and room was very clean. Actually tried to stay in another hotel that we usually stay in, but it was full. We were not disappointed. This is a nice hotel located close to Carroll College.

    « Fair »

Clean rooms, internet works well. Some of the staff is friendly and helpful while others are incredibly rude. The manager called me to address issue with my bill and I perceived her as looking for a fight, as well as accused me of trying to intimidate her staff. Misinformation was given at the time reservations were made as well as our reservations were not accurate regardless of having them repeated back at the time the initial call was made. Overall, I would not stay here unless it greatly simplifies your conference stay.

« Clean, Great Location, and Cool Building »

The hotel is located in a historic area of Helena. The lobby of the hotel is very pretty, and the room was clean as well as well equipped. The rooms were larger than some other hotels in the area. The pool was fun for the kids, and the towels in the pool were full size beach towels. This is a nice feature. Breakfast was probably my least favorite part of the hotel. The options were limited, and the breakfast area crowded.

    5
    « Great Location »

We were at Carroll for Parents Weekend. This hotel is perfect. Can park your car and walk everywhere that you need to attend all the events at the college. Lovely pool and fitness center. « Best stay for the money »

    « wonderful experience »

My wife and I were in town to attend a charity event and we wanted to be located within a short walk to the Helena Civic Center. We had stayed at the Best Western Great Northern a couple of times previously but had not stayed there since the Great Northern upgraded to a Premier Best Western Property. We were satisfied in our stays for previous visits but greatly impressed with the nice upgrades the Premier category offers. It was a delightful experience. We were particularly thrilled with the quality of the room and amenities in the breakfast area as well as with the very cordial lady who takes care of the services in that room. Great value!!

« Would definitely stay here again »

Our two queen room on the third floor seemed to have larger than average square footage. The 10 ft. ceilings really make a huge difference in the feel of the room--maybe making it seem even more spacious than it actually was. The bed and bath linens had a great light fresh clean smell, but not bleachy. Top-notch toiletries made with olive oil and blood orange peel were so nice I'd buy them for home use. The mattress was firm, but okay. Comfortable bed pillows. Microwave and a large mini-fridge were nice to have. Helpfully, the room was designed with a small mirror, ledge, outlet, and good lighting mounted just outside the bathroom so that there is another spot for someone to get ready in the morning while the bathroom is full. On the slightly less positive side, the pool and hot tub are on the larger side and appeared to have been well-maintained, however there were no towels to be found. There were towel racks, but no towels. I called up to my room and asked my husband to bring one down. Another hotel guest used the house phone to call the front desk and waited at least 20 minutes before giving up on the hotel staff bringing her one. She dripped all the way to her room. Another housekeeping incident occurred when they wanted to tidy our room when we were still in the shower. No big deal. But they never returned and we had to approach staff in the hallway late that afternoon to get new towels and shampoo. The housekeeping staff was very accommodating when we asked, but it would have been nice if it just had been taken care of in the first place. These are minor complaints, and as the title of my review indicates, would not keep me from happily returning.

« Carroll homecoming - great place to stay »

My friends and I stayed here for Carroll's Homecoming weekend. This is *the* best place to stay for anything going on at the college! Super convenient, quiet, and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again!

« Nice place in downtown. »

We spent one night in this fairly new hotel. Rooms are very clean and well appointed. There is no baggage assistance, but otherwise staff was very helpful. Although this is a Best Western, it is a hotel in every sense of the term. It is in downtown Helena which turns out to be a really cool place. The onsite steakhouse is very good and much nicer that you might expect.

« Great room, friendly staff. »

Our room was very nice. The bathroom is spacious, the beds are comfortable, since we had 4 people in our room, the second sink outside of the bathroom was a plus. Big roomy lobby with comfortable seating areas. The attached restaurant & bar meant no driving. Free breakfast was great. They even have pancake & waffle makers!! The staff is very accommodating. They took me with the shuttle to the airport even though I was the only passenger. Granted it was 5:00 am. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Helena - almost hip? »

So - it's been a while (20+ years), but I lived in Helena for a very short period and as an urban cultural center - well, it wasn't... I get the feeling times have changed although one night hardly qualifies as time served for an informed opinion. I'm not sure what they call this relatively new area (I'm sure it's got some kind of moniker), but the area around the hotel is nice. The hotel? It was nice too... We were in one of the rooms that was along the indoor pool (looks like there were 4 or 6 rooms that have their own doors into the pool area). The room was HUGE... I like large, opulent rooms, but they need character - this room verged on being just, weird, in a large square box way - decorated nicely enough (good furnishings, etc...), but... Anyway - you may have to contend with the sounds of children shrieking with delight whilst swimming with their parents. The cacophony did die down after we returned from dinner and it was nice to walk less than ten paces to the whirlpool, so all was good. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel as a whole has a very NON-Best Western look & feel to it (this is a good thing...) - modern-y yet elegant and clean - very clean. The hotel in and of itself was better than anticipated - the area around it made the stay very enjoyable.

The hotel is right in the heart of the downtown area and just across the street from Carroll College. Restaurants are within walking distance. The hotel is not large, but it has just what you need. The pool is truly a pool that can be used for lap swimming, not just for the kids to play Marco Polo. This is the best place to stay in Helena.

This establishment is very clean and comfortable. The beds are spacious and very comfortable. The rooms are updated and quiet. Did not hear our neighbors next door in their room or walking up and down the hallway. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a convenient location. Very close to many restaurants and other nightlife whether by car, or on foot. Tasty and fresh breakfast as well. My only complaint is the wifi was meh.

    « Updated and comfortable »

I visit Helena several times a year on business, and this hotel is always my first choice. I like everything, from the friendly welcome to the large rooms and really comfortable beds. It is always quiet, in my experience. Some rooms have bowed out windows that make them pretty special. They do provide a complementary breakfast bar that is quite extensive, which is nice and convenient. However, on my latest trip I discovered the crêpe and espresso shop around the corner, and it won my heart.

    « Helpful and Welcoming »

We've stayed a number of times over the last couple of years as Carroll College parents. Every visit we experience the same fantastic service, super helpful front desk staff, clean and comfy rooms with thermostats that work, and a good night's sleep. Breakfast each day had some great new choices, and I could depend on good hot coffee and fresh fruit if I just wanted to keep it simple. Close by restaurants and shops made it fun. Helena is a beautiful town, and this Best Western is a wonderful hotel!

« Great Best Western in a Great Location »

This is a Best Western like no other. I stay at many Best Westerns throughout the midwest. This location is a conference center. Centrally located near great restaurants, sites and museums. The indoor Great Northern Carousel, the Exploration Works Indoor/Outdoor Museum and the seasonal Shakespeare in the Park is only a few hundred yards away. We were greeted with cookies, fresh coffee and water, but the highlight for me, was the washing station for bicyclists and motorcyclists. I've never experienced such a welcome on many of my journeys. There were some WIFI troubles, that the staff worked hard to resolve, but it did make working a bit difficult. But their willingness to help made up for the hassle. I will for sure be staying here again!

« Great hotel in Helena »

We were on a 2 week Montana vacation and stayed 1 night here. The complimentary breakfast was good. Really nice hotel close to shopping and sightseeing. Helena is a nice clean city. Would stay again if in the area.

    « Wonderful stay »

The location of this hotel is terrific. There are several great restaurants nearby including a brew pub that serves great food and a fusion restaurant across the street. It has a town square feel to it. We had a poolside room and really enjoyed being able to do a few laps before bed!

    « Enjoyable stay »

From the moment we walked in I loved the atmosphere in this hotel. The entrance is welcoming, staff are friendly and there are cookies at the reception desk :) Room was very spacious and complimentary breakfast was great (one of the few hotels on our trip that would offer inclusive breakfast).

    « Late night check-in »

Riding from Medicine Hat, Alberta and left there at 4:30pm. I had reserved a cabin at Wolf Creek Anglers and told them I would be there about 9:30pm. Much to my dismay, I couldn't find the place so headed to Helena, Mt with about 30 miles more of riding. I found the BW Great Northern on my GPS and headed there, since BW is where I stay 95% of the time (40 nights so far year). Rolled in at 10:15pm and the front desk clerk was super helpful and friendly and checked me into a pool side room. At 7am I stepped out my door to the hot tub...it was great !

« Best Best Western ever! »

This hotel is one of the few which meets all of the wishes us travelers want: clean & comfortable room, friendly & helpful staff, a great (complimentary) breakfast, and good cookies at the front desk. There are great places to visit within walking distance of the hotel including restaurants, government buildings, an open area and mile-long track to walk with benches and exercise equipment. The hotel is set up to provide services for business visitors including PCs and printers. There are good books to read in the lobby area. This hotel is an extremely good value considering that we were there during their busiest season and we got a reasonable price for such an excellent value.

    « Best Western Premier »

Very pleased with our stay at the Best Western Premier in Helena. Lobby very spacious and attractive. Front desk people were very helpful. Room was very comfortable and a good size. Breakfast is included and food quality was excellent and the room more than adequate. Hotel located in a newly developed area, Great Northern so there is dining and shopping close by. Silver Star Steakhouse adjoins the hotel and we enjoyed our dinner there one evening. There is a Brewhouse close by that also was quite good. Have no problem recommending this hotel.

« Great stay, definetly go for it if you are searching for a stay at Helena »

If you are looking for a place to stay at Helena, this is it! The hotel is really good. It offers spacious rooms, soft towels and a nice breakfast with daily cut fresh food. We also received decent plates in stone and real cutlery, which we really enjoyed above all plastic we received in almost every other hotel we stayed in. The hotel is on walking distance from the cathedral and next door you have 2 great places to east (I would recommend fusion grill if you are a family and in case of a chic diner, go to silver steak company). Also next door there is the carousel, so before bedtime you can spoil the little ones with an extra ride. The hotel's swimming pool is an example how you can with a concrete floor make it cosy and great. Nice chairs to relax and large pool. We only encountered one minor point to improve. Houskeeping did not make up our beds as she didn't want to mess up our stuff? (which was mentioned on a note). We always put two chairs next to the bed, so that our children don't roll out. I understand that this might not be easy to make up the beds than like they normally do, but just arranging the sheets back would already have been great.

    « Excellent stay »

We stayed for four nights, for a business conference. The room was excellent, the service was flawless, and the fitness room was more complete than most you will find in hotels. Cardio equipment as well as free weights and a strength training rack, similar to Universal machines. Coffee was always available in the lobby, plus a coffee pot in the room. And free cookies every night at the lobby desk. Kudos to the employee team who made our stay so enjoyable.

« Great place to stay! »

I love staying here when I go to Helena. It is in a great location near the center of town. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet allowing for a great night's rest. The breakfast (which is included) is delicious. The fitness center has everything one needs to get a quick, good workout in. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was the best hotel during our trip throughout midwest USA. A very friendly staff, spacious room and bathroom and a delightful breakfast (the fresh fruit was delicious) are just a few pros of this hotel.

« An Upscale Best Western »

Nice hotel and staff. Easy check in. Parking is about a half block away and is used by all companies located in the Great Northern Plaza. We found the hotel difficult to find, The room was nice and clean. Breakfast was included in the "Dining Car" restaurant.

« Great place to stay and have a conference »

From check in to check out this was a great stay. The staff was so GREAT, Breakfast was excellent, and the facilities for the workshop were great. Great location for being central to the city. The staff was available even in the middle of the night, to give me extra pillows because of a medical condition.

« Very comfortable and close to everything. »

We just completed a weekend at this hotel for the wedding of a friend's son. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. For some crazy reason, all of the events and even the restaurants we chose were no more than 15 minutes away. We walked to a local brewery and restaurant but there are some good choices right next to the property. Very clean. Nice rooms. My only complaint was minor, my back was a bit sore from a slightly soft mattress but it gets that way in most hotels.

« Great place to stay in great location! »

We were very impressed with the quality of the accommodations at the Best Western. Very comfortable bed with nice linens. Clean and spacious rooms. The gym is open 24/7 which is nice. Pool and hot tub area closes at 10pm which is understandable as there are rooms that open to the pool area. Pool and hot tub area was also clean and tidy looking. We skipped the breakfast buffet....but only because there was a creperie next door we really wanted to try out. Location was great, in the center of historic downtown. Jasmine, the person who checked us both in and out, was extremely friendly and a good face for Best Western and Helena.

    « Oh what a room »

Just book room 118 and enjoy. It is a large, well appointed, well designed room that you simply want to spend some time in. Staff is great. Coin operated laundry down the hall was much appreciated after our 10th day on the road. Fun things to do and places to eat within walking distance (and that includes old downtown). We really liked this hotel and we are sorta picky.

« Fantastic! We were towards the end of our vacation to Glacier National Park and decided to stay in Helena. »

After checking into our room the kids asked if we were in the right place? Everything was so beautiful. The room was large, spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were helpful with recommendations for eating establishments. We ended up eating at the Brewery Pub that was very good and close by - after driving all day we were not ready to get back into the car. The next day about an hour down the road we realized that we had forgotten something in the room. The front desk were especially helpful, sending someone to our room and then mailing us our forgotten item. They went above and beyond. Thank you so much!

We stayed here one night on our way to Bozeman. The location is awesome...shops, restaurants and movie theater all on a charming street. We utilized the adjacent park by the college for our morning walk. Room was very clean, comfortable & quiet. The bed was outstanding. Would definitely stay here again!

    « Amazing Hotel »

This hotel is in the heart of Helena within walking distance of a brew pub and several really good restaurants. Staff is always helpful, the rooms are updated and spotless, I have never had a bad stay. This is my go to hotel when I am in Helena, I can't recommend it enough.

This was an exceptional hotel with great service. No complaints from myself or family. We congregated in the lobby sometimes multiple family members and enjoyed the comfort visiting! The put up with us, our many kids and some dogs. The hotel is very nice and clean. I enjoyed their hot tub it was the perfect temperature. Breakfast was very good and they were all friendly in the kitchen!

« We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Premier Helena Great Northern Hotel »

The Best Western Premier Helena Great Northern Hotel is centrally located in a small town with a walking mall. There is a movie theatre in walking distance and many beautiful hiking trails. During the summer season the Montana Shakespeare Company performs in an outdoor theatre. Our room at the Best Western Premier overlooked the outdoor mall and the town's center carousel. We could open our window to hear the flowing waterfall. The customer service has been amazing from check in to check out. The rooms are clean and tidy. The amenities include an indoor lap pool, jacuzzi, and gym. Breakfast is served every morning, coffee and fruit infused water are offered daily, and a homemade Great Northern Railroad sugar cookie is provided in the afternoon. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    « One night stay »

I was traveling with my family on our way to Big Sky, Montana and Yellowstone. This was the nicest hotel we stayed in on our 3000 mile road trip. I booked a 2 queen room for 4 persons. Our room was spacious enough for the 4 of us to move around even with our suitcases open. The breakfast area was crowded but the breakfast was very good and served on real dinnerware with utensils rather than paper and plasticware. We were given a late check-out since our Gates of the Mountain boat tour was delayed due to inclement weather.

    5
« Enjoyed the Poolside Room »

We stayed for one night while visiting Carroll College, right across the street. We were offered a poolside room, which is a ground floor room that opens directly to the pool and hot tub area. We were worried about noise but the front desk helpfully noted that the hotel was mostly occupied by business conference travellers, so there were few guests likely to be using the pool and that turned out to be the case. The breakfast was very nice - the seating area clean and modern and the food choices and staff were quite good. Shout out to Marti (adding my Rewards number to the reservation while I was on the phone in car) and Samantha (helpful directions and professional demeanor).

« Shiny clean, great location »

This is an exceptional Best western apart from a couple of quibbles. First, it is centrally located in the middle of a spanking new shopping mall but we found it difficult to locate (maybe that was just us...). If you come later in the afternoon you might find a parking space in the lot difficult to come by. Second, reception were OK but not the most helpful. When asked if there was bell assistance they pointed to a cart and grudgingly acknowledged they might be able to find someone. The pluses, however, outweigh the negatives. Our room was beautiful - large with acres of space for luggage and equipped with a microwave, fridge etc., though the bathroom was on the small side. Everything sparkled! The best thing about it is its location, within walking distance of the restaurants, shops and attractions of Helena. The mall itself is a real pleasure to walk in with colourful water features and historical notices about the Lewis/Clark expedition. We ate both nights at the Silver Star Steakhouse and used its bar, where the wait staff in both were first class and the menu extensive. Breakfast (included in the price) was better than average with plenty of choice.

« Great place to stay in Helena »

Great classic hotel; up to date, but still with lots of history. Staff friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was large, with a very comfortable bed, sitting area, separate counter with fridge, microwave and a third sink. The hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants, and only a short drive to others. Very nice complementary breakfast. Would recommend and stay again.8

« Great staff and excellent location »

I stayed two nights at this Best Western. I didn't know what to expect as I'd never stayed at a Premier before. The staff was very warm, welcoming, and professional - everyone I encountered gave a cordial greeting, even in the hallways! Room was large and the beds very comfortable. Great dining available, ate at the Silver Star Steakhouse the first night, and the Brewhouse Grille the second night. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise compared to some Best Western's I've stayed at. Very charming downtown location.

    « Wow »

Fantastic hotel. This Best Western exceeded my expectations. The room was fantastic. We had a view of the cathedral downtown from our room. The breakfast was better than I expected, with fresh biscuits, sausage, and egg patties to make breakfast sandwiches. The hotel was in close proximity to quite a few interesting restaurants, including the brewery we went to. Overall, this hotel exceeded my already high expectations for a Best Western. It really lived up to its Premier name.

    « Disappointed »

Upon early arrival-I explained that we had two children that had never been to Montana before and would like a view. Young man at counter gave us a room on 3rd floor but view was blocked by building next door so our view was of ROOF below. There were many room available but he could have cared less. Next day I heard people offering rooms leading to pool area-there was not anyone in those rooms the 1st night we were there. Room was clean nothing special. I choose this hotel because of location-next time I will choose another hotel. Breakfast was okay-attendants seemed to be very slow. Almost every morning we had to take our breakfast to our room or sit in lobby as there was not enough places to sit. When I checked out told clerk how disappointed I was and she said clerk was new-wonder what it takes to train people in a service industry?

    « Excellent choice »

This is a very convenient, comfortable and customer service dedicated hotel located in a very cute section! Nearby restaurants, movie theater, sites and attractions! There was a bit of confusion regarding the reservation (had 2 but cancelled one although the person cancelled both) yet they took care of the mistake without question! Terrific for my pet too with treats! Grandsons lived the pool, breakfast and fitness center! Definitely will stay here again!

    « Disgusting!!!!! »

We decided we needed a night away from the kids so we rented the suite at this hotel. Our check in process went great and the front desk clerk was very friendly. We had dinner plans so we went to our room and dropped our luggage off and did not return till a little after 9 pm. I started to get ready for bed and opened the closet and noticed a dirty pair of undies in there, YUCK. Then upon showering there was hair and soap still left on the soap holder, another disgusting find. My husband then informed me our TV did not work and then pulled back the sheets of the bed and there was BLOOD on the sheets?!!! I had enough of this especially since this hotel has great ratings and we were defiantly not finding where these amazing reviews were holding true. I called to the front desk and explained what we had dealt with at 9:22 pm. He informed me he would have maintenance come and change the sheets and that we would receive a credit on our room and he would call us back with the amount. 10 pm still no one showed up at our room to remedy our issue, finally the front desk called and informed us that since we booked our hotel from Hotels.com there would be no credit at ALL.... I was shocked I told him that this was absolutely absurd? He asked me if I would like him to check at other hotels for availability?? It was after 10 pm? I am shocked that this is how they handled this situation, it was shameful. By the time maintenance came and changed our bedding we finally got in bed at 10:45 pm. I will never do business at a Best Western again, they really dropped the ball..

    « Family Memorial »

The hotel was nice as we had three rooms for our family. The cookies and breakfast were great. The first breakfast, the attendants weren't keeping the food trays filled and the waffle iron made a terrible waffle especially with a watery plain batter - the blueberry was better, but waffles came out a ugly mess even though sprayed with oil. The second day was better for refills on food - didn't try waffle, but a little girl's was still terrible. Our room wasn't picked up even though we didn't have a do not disturb sign out. Enjoyed the free newspaper and fridge. Overall a nice place, but for the $s should have some empting of wastebaskets and a waffle iron that works.

« Great hotel with lots of options nearby »

We love this place and stay here every time we go to Helena. It is centrally located near lots of restaurants, shopping, a movie theater, Carroll College, Last Chance Gulch, etc. Room was clean, updated, quiet and everything worked. Staff is very friendly. Pool area is really nice. The pool is quite long, so you can actually swim for exercise in it, which is a bit unusual for a hotel. Also has a hot tub. Breakfast buffet is included in your room rate and is fantastic. Has lots of different stuff (hot and cold) to choose from. Staff keep everything stocked and warm. For only $10 more, you can bump to a deluxe king room that has a lot of space.

    2
    « Dirty Room »

Our room had not been properly cleaned when we checked in. There was food in the fridge from the previous guest, soap and a razor in the shower from the previous guest and the bathroom floor, carpeted floor and shower had not been cleaned. We requested that someone come to clean them and the only thing that was done was the carpet was vacuumed. It was unacceptable.

We enjoyed our stay, and felt very welcome at the Best Wester Premier Helena Great Northern. Our stay was a family gathering for a wedding, and it was wonderful to explore the surrounding area and park with family staying at the hotel. We would definitely recommend this hotel to all travelers, and will stay here again on our next trip to Helena.

We visited the hotel because we were in Helena for a funeral. My 2 and 5 year old loved the pool and carousel and ice cream parlor nearby and the grounds were so condusive to kids! Open spaces to play and get some energy out. There are also plenty of restaraunts nearby and access to the beautiful St. Helena' Cathedral was a few short blocks away. The staff here was curteous and friendly and breakfast was superb. The breakfast staff was especially helpful in suggesting places in town to shop. Best Best Western I've ever visited!

« Very nice, clean and hospitable staff »

We stayed here three times on our adventure across Montana. The staff was very nice, breakfast was great and the room was clean; and common areas were very well kept. I was surprised to hear that the hotel was about 10 years old - it looked like it was new-so management keeps on tops of things. The staff - from the front desk to the breakfast staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Great location - close to pizza/brew pub and steak house.

My husband and I just spent four nights at the Great Northern and couldn't have been happier. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The lobby was very pretty and the lemon water was a refreshing treat after a long day of activities. The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to quaint shops and great restaurants. I also loved the bath amenities! They smelled wonderful. We were there as part of a group for a wedding and had a nice welcome dinner in one of the ballrooms. We typically stay with friends when we come to Montana, but I would absolutely stay here again, and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean, friendly, comfortable, convenient and hospitable place to stay!

« Super Staff and Comfy bed make Best Western Helena the best motel in Helena »

I booked this hotel a year ahead of time to get rooms for the Carroll College graduation. I got the Carroll room rate which was surprisingly affordable. And the hotel was located in walking distance to uptown (just outside the door) and downtown (1 mile away), where there's an awesome wine bar ("The Hawthorne"). I had heard great things about the hotel. And it lived up to its reputation. The staff went out of their way to make our stay superb. I needed wine glasses, and they got them for me. Extra towels for some exercising I was doing -- no problem. Plates and silverware for my leftovers from dinner? The receptionist unlocked the breakfast room so I could take what I wanted. The room was large, bright and cheerful. Very comfortable, As were the beds. My son said it was the most comfortable bed he had ever slept in. There was a good sized fridge and microwave in the room, which helped with the leftovers. Only trouble I had was finding the parking lot. It was a little tricky to find, and it would have helped to have had a printed map. But that was a minor inconvenience. I really felt welcomed. Shout out to Jasmine and Nick, the two receptionists that helped check me in and answered my questions. I would most definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family traveling to Helena.

We traveled to Helena as a family for my husband's business trip. He had a conference at the hotel and we figured why not make the most of the trip. The hotel room was spacious for the three of us, and our son and I had plenty of space to play in the room while my husband was out working. The pool was clean and refreshing. There is a small but clean hot tub as well. I did not use the available workout room. Our big "yay" was the extra sink in our room. There is an extra sink OUTSIDE of the bathroom which allows someone to wash their hands, rinse off some fruit, or brush their teeth while the bathroom is occupied. I cannot comment on the value of the hotel as I did not pay the bill. Additionally our son and I did not try the room service or associated restaurant. There is a children's museum just a hop skip and a jump away - literally you go out the door, turn right and walk past a few shops. We didn't end up going inside, but outside there are some musical instruments you can play with. There are several places to eat within walking distance of the hotel making the location a great one for business trips and conferences where you may be needing to entertain a client. The photo is of the flags outside the hotel as well as the rocks which you ARE ALLOWED to climb on. This made our son extremely happy. Enjoy your stay!

We enjoyed our stay at the Great Northern Inn. The entire place was very clean, well appointed and modern. The staff from top to bottom was professional and friendly. We attended two different functions in the ballroom and both were very well presented. Definitely the best hotel in Helena.

« Good place to stay and clean i would recomend this property to others »

This hotel was a very nice place to stay but I had a problem when I requested a joining room when making my reservation and did not get that, I was offered 25% off and the manager said that is all he can do sorry; when attending a business conference I would expect more and didn't get it; I stayed three night and only received the discount for one night and I my opinion that is very poor!

    « One problem »

Only one complaint about this hotel--the complimentary breakfast. Lack of visual appeal, convenience, and flavors. We expected more from a hotel of this quality. Managers should check out Holiday Inn Parkside in Missoula, MT, for comparison.

« Only here because of work »

Getting State rate was a little bit of a fiasco which is ridiculous when EVERY hotel in Helena, MT gives State rate. The only reason this hotel was chosen was because the meetings were held here. Kind of a hassle to get a parking pass to put in the window of your car so not to get a $25 fine for staying at this property

« Beautiful hotel, great location, unique area. »

I chose this hotel just because of it's train theme. My son is a train fanatic and we were in town for a train fair just up the street at the Civic Center, which was very convenient. Beautiful hotel inside and out and great location to downtown Helena which is also very beautiful, The pool area was super nice and very clean. Rooms were great and clean. I was very impressed with the complimentary breakfast! Although we didn't have time to go, the carousel is literally a stones throw away for kids to go to and have ice cream and ride. My only complaints if any were the parking which was a tiny walk across the street which I really wouldn't of complained at all if it wasn't downpouring all weekend. But I noticed that the hotel provides umbrellas that we didn't see until after we hauled our luggage in. The other complaint is that the walls are a little thin in the room we were in and could hear the person snoring all night. I keep earplugs in my bag just in case so I had them. I will definitely stay here next time even though the cost was a little spendy for my budget but memories are priceless and my son loved it. PS I wasn't given a wifi password at check in and I kept forgetting to ask for it.

« I would stay here again. Nice, but not perfect »

I would book again. Comfy beds, lots of pillows. Maintenance came and worked on the issues with my room immediately. Desk staff and others were professional and kind. Issues were a warm fridge and some stuffy weird carpet smells, which is par for the course with a "pet room." They sprayed Febreeze and fixed the fridge. I opened the window for a bit. No prob. Tub has a drip and there was a dead fly in it, but stuff like that doesn't freak me out. Flies exist. So do leaky faucets. I will tell the front desk staff about it when I leave.

We went to Helena for the first time to visit colleges. This hotel is across the way from one college, who recommended this hotel to us. And I'm very pleased w our decision to stay here! The food was good, the employees were very helpful, and everything was very clean! We didnt use the laundry rm, exercise or pool facilites, but I'm sure they are well kept! If and when we return, this hotel will definitely be the first on our list to stay at!

This is a very nice hotel in a great part of Helena. Excellent service and very friendly staff. We didn't have enough time to walk around and explore nearby restaurants and shops but they looked nice.

    « Great Stay »

Spent the weekend and totally enjoyed the hotel. This is an annual treat for us as the Civil Air Patrol has its annual state convention here. We stay in a very nice room with all the amenities of a great hotel. They food served is as good as the hotel, the personnel are accommodating to needs of guests. It is situated by Last Chance Gulch which is very nice to stroll through and shop. My only issue is the challenges faced in the limited parking areas around the hotel. Despite the parking, we will come here again...and again.

The Great Northern staff were wonderful and hospitality was bar none the best I have had at any Hotel. I would recommend anyone who is in Helena to stay here. Food servers at the conference were courteous and wonderful to our group.

« My second trip, as good as the first. »

Stayed a year ago and my review is on this site as one of the first reviews; high quality maintained and have no complaints. There is a bike rental nearby and you could use that to ride the adjacent Centential Park paved trail.

    « Excellent Hotel »

We were more than satisfied with the great hotel staff, location, and amenities! The breakfast was top notch. I always shy away from fruit cups when they are offered in a complementary breakfast, however, the strawberries, grapes, pineapple, and melon were fresh and tasted great. We will return again and again.

« Too pricey for poor t.v., view, and no swim! »

Love the location! This was my second time staying at the Great Northern. I was bitterly disappointed this time due to the fact that my room had a terrible view, the cable t.v. reception was lousy, and the hotel pool was freezing. No one was able to swim. If I had known that the pool was going to be cold this time, I would have chosen a different hotel. Due to how much it costs, not sure if I will stay again.

    « Great rooms/Great Service »

We spent the night here with my family, and my daughter's friends to celebrate her birthday. Staff was extremely courteous and pool was fun for the kids! Great location to shop, drink, eat! Would recommend to anyone that stays in Helena!

    « Wonderful Hotel »

Excellent staff and very clean and quiet hotel. Breakfast was great. Staff was amazing and room was comfortable. Very Large rooms! If you like trains, there are lots of really great pictures hanging around the hotel. Its a little away from the highway (5-10 minutes) but really worth while staying there.

« High School Lacrosse team stay »

We stayed at the Best Western Premier in Helena for a High School Lacrosse tournament and had a great experience. The location is perfect with lots of dining choices right there and the downtown shopping area close within walking distance. The boys enjoyed the pool and the lobby. The hot complimentary breakfast was the best I've ever had and included pre-made omelets and even bacon! The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were quite large. We plan to stay again next year!

    « AMAZING SERVICE »

Everything about this hotel is first class - great service, great amenities, beautiful hotel. The complimentary breakfast was a full selection of breakfast items. We also ate at The Silver Spur and they have a good menu selection and great food.

    « Mixed feelings »

I am torn between whether I should write a bad or good review, so I will do both. Good Points: Very clean, upscale property with attached restaurant and walking distance to downtown and Carroll College. Bad Points: Two staff members were exceptionally rude and one was not knowledgeable about the property and location of certain amenities. I am not normally one to complain, but was treated very poorly during my 4 night stay, and upon check out was verbally reprimanded by the hotel manager in front of staff and guests because I made the remark that "some people don't belong in customer service" and glanced the direction of the employee I was speaking of... who wasn't even looking at me! However. I did receive an email from the general manager of the property apologizing for everything that happened. When we spoke on the telephone I explained that the manager reprimanded ME upon check out and for that reason alone I would never stay in the hotel again. (Photo is from the night I could not get the doors to open)

« If you are staying in Helena- this is where to stay »

The location of the Best Western Great Northern Hotel is perfect. It is within walking distance of the movie theater, the Carousel, the Brewhouse (a great burger/beer restaurant), and is also near Carroll College and many local shops. The rooms are very nice and the beds are very comfortable.

« Greatest Hotel in Helena for our family. »

We stayed using our Airmiles points. In the past we have always stayed in hotels just of the exits but this was worth the few minutes into town. Location is awesome with shops, movie theatre. Hotel breakfast very nice with lots of options. Nice staff helpful with allowing us to do an Easter Egg hunt in the hotel for the kids. We will stay again!

Great hotel right downtown Helena. Good amenities and great walking location to food, shops & theater. Alarm clock radios only fit old iPhones and the wifi set up is a pain, but other than those minor things, great place.

    « A Better Best Western »

We've learned not to trust the Best Western brand because the hotels have been inconsistent in quality. But this one is a great one. The location was perfect for what we needed--a hotel near downtown Helena within walking distance to everything we wanted to do, plus a park on the other side of an underpass, the movie theater, and lots of interesting places to explore right outside our door. The King room we were in was roomy, clean, quiet, and nicely decorated. We needed to have our dog with us and there was a $15 fee. Ignore the "green area" behind the building for the dog's "call of nature" and head to Centennial Park with your dog and doggie bag. We enjoyed a good breakfast.

    5
« Classic Lux aligned with Montana Expectations »

The hotel is grand and plush without a hint of the snobbish. The staff is kind and efficient without making you feel like it is just a business. I fully recommend the Great Northern for a sophisticated get-away.

    4
    « Premier is accurate »

The hotel is a cut above the run of the mill BW norm. The lounge area is large, comfortable and inviting. Reception staff were excellent and welcoming. The room was large and comfortable, but had the business traveller in mind. Lighting for reading was not good. Breakfast was in a bright room and had better and healthier choices than is normal. The hotel itself anchors a new business development, which is sterile and unattractive. Walking into Helena is easy, but Helena itself is a disappointing, unattractive town.

    5
    « Montana stay »

We had a great stay at the Great Northern Hotel. The bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, the staff was helpful when something unexpected came up. My wife liked the coffee that was available at any time in the lobby. The hotel was quite quiet in the hallway, so you could get a good night's sleep.

« Preferred hotel in Helena »

Always perfect for business or pleasure. Highly recommend. Staff very accommodating, rooms lovely and well-equipped, breakfast hits the spot. Adjoining restaurant/bar also highly recommended. Good location near interesting shops, college, businesses.

    « Excellent stay »

We stayed in a poolside room which was excellent! The breakfast was wonderful and not a typical all carb breakfast! The breakfast consisted of real eggs (not powdered), potatoes, meat, and a variety of cereals! We will definitely be staying again soon!! Also, thanks Daniel for the great service!!!

« Helena at its best »

If you want to experience the real Helena, why not stay close to the source? A hotel in Montana with a little more civilization than a "chain hotel", one with true Montana spirit. One that is close to "Last Chance Gulch", with stores you have not visited before, or restaurants that are not a chain. Get a feeling for the "New West", a younger feel of people who live dream of the West and move there. You can run to a rugged mountain trail from your room. Fish the Missouri River that Lewis and Clark paddled to their destiny or ski the Great Divide. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is plentiful, at times it can be healthy, but the staff is always there to keep things tidy and fresh. A pool, hot tub, fitness center and a place for internet connection back to home. Why not stay in Downtown Helena, bask in the history, participate in the town, all the while staying in "cilvilized hotel". At the Great Northern, you can do this and a lot more. Why pick a "Chain Motel?"

    3
« Poor Parking and Rates »

Though I am an elected government official, the hotel does not honor state employee rates consistently. As a result I can be charged as much as $50 more per night. At my most recent stay, my trip cost approximately $100 more since I stayed 2 nights. This seems arbitrary since the state rate is used consistently for non official state employees. At the state rate the value of the hotel is excellent, but at the rates I was charged it is not that much of a value when you factor in that the hotel does not provide covered parking and it is quite a distance to walk to the parking areas. Also, the hotel is quite a distance from the capitol, so in winter the walking distances, the fact you may have to remove snow from your vehicle and drive a longer distance makes this hotel less of a value. Without the state rate I will be more likely to stay elsewhere in the future.

« Upscale Hotel in Downtown Helena »

This is a modern, vibrant Hotel in downtown Helena, located near multiple shopping and entertainment ventures. The staff is wonderful. The rooms are roomy and nicely furnished. I attended a conference. The meeting rooms were comfortable and the food served was great. There is a fabulous restaurant located within the Hotel property.

    « A very nice stay »

We were in town for business and a block of rooms was reserved here. This is a very nice hotel. Probably more expensive than I would normally stay at. They had a great breakfast buffet and pleny of coffee available. The exercise facility was nice but I was not impressed with the elipitcal machine. (personal preference) so I used the exercise bike instead. When I arrived the tv in my room had sound but no picture they sent up Sharon and she was able to correct the problem in about 2 mintues. She was super professional and friendly. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

« Great Place to Stay »

« 50 adults for annual weekend business workshop/grant assessments. Volunteer charitable organization. »

Well taken care of during planning, set-up and service all weekend. We took 20+ sleeping rooms (many comments on comfort, quiet & clean), were served outstanding buffet meals and received excellent real time changes in conference room and meal room service as events transpired. Summer did a fine job picking up the account and Daniel showed outstanding executive decision making problem solving skills during the weekend on several unforeseen issues our group generated. See you next year for the same event.

« Stay at the Great Northern Hotel »

Room was clean, a bit dated in decor but nicely done. The breakfast was okay in the morning. It was very quiet and did have a microwave and a refrigerator which were much appreciated as I was there for a week in December and a week in January. The only reason I am not rating the hotel higher is that parking is a nightmare. I would come back from work in the evenings and there was no parking because the same parking lot is shared by multiple restaurants and there is no specifically reserved parking for hotel guests. I had to park blocks away at times and then hike back out in 10 degrees and snow packed area to move my car into the parking lot for the night.

« Still a great place to stay! »

    « I rate the service a WOW!! »

This was our first ever trip to Helena so we didn't really know the local scene at all. Dana Strachan on the front desk came through in a big way really helping understand the city and gave us a list the all the local favorites...the insiders info..we had a great trip thanks to this amazing interest in making sure our visit was a success. The hotel was also very nice and just as good as our service experience. Nice work!!! See you in the spring!!!

« Warmth and comfort in Helena »

My spouse and I had to travel to Helena, Montana for his father's funeral and chose to stay in the Best Western Premier Great Northern hotel there for 3 nights. It was a very nice experience: the hotel lobby is beautifully furnished, with different sitting areas and a warm, welcoming fireplace with gas fire burning. The room we had was large and pleasantly decorated and the bed comfortable. Best of all were the very helpful staff, from the young lady who took our reservation over the phone on Saturday, to the staff who instructed us on Tuesday night about express checkout (which worked smoothly). All our needs were addressed patiently and helpfully. The breakfast (included in the room rate) was excellent too. Highly recommended.

    « Best Best Western »

The Great Northern is great! I love the downtown location. The staff was helpful and my bed was superb. The only high rating I did not give was for price. I thought the price was on the high side, given the time of year (off season for visitors and the Capitol).

    « Pleasurable business trip... »

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! From the initial phone call to book the reservations to the final checkout the service was great. All the staff were very accommodating... I attended a business dinner the night of our stay...the staff that attended our table was very courteous and responsive to my needs. Looking forward to staying at the Great Northern again.

« A lovely place to stay in Helena »

As with Best Western plus, I found this hotel met the usual high standards of cleanliness and helpful staff. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was good. I felt a little uncomfortable about leaving my car in an unsecured car park but had not issues. A good place to stay in Helena or on your trip down the i15

My husband had a seminar at this awesome hotel, but when he made the reservations he did not give them the correct dates and they were completely sold out on the night we needed!!!! « Helena Home »

I stay at this property every time I visit Helena; which is at least 6 to 12 times a year. The facilities are wonderful and the beds are soooo comfortable! The location is also a plus, with restaurants and entertainment within walking distance, the Great Northern Hotel is the ultimate in lodging in Helena. You will not be disappointed.

    « Gem in Helena »

I was excited to finally get to stay at the Great Northern Hotel. I have been to Helena many times, but have not had the chance to stay at the Great Northern. The hotel did not disappoint. The hotel is well maintained with great decor. The lobby is a nice entrance into the space and provides plenty of room. Check-in was a breeze and we were off to our room in no time. The room was nice and clean. The bathroom was on the small side and not quite up to the standards of the rest of the hotel, but nothing to complain about. It was December, so we weren't able to use the balconies in our room, but they would be lovely during the rest of the year. It was a good stay and I'm looking forward to coming back.

    « Another Great Stay »

We enjoyed our last stay so much that we opted to overnight here again on this excursion. We had what was called a mini suite -- very spacious - even had a small kitchenette area complete with microwave and fridge. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The staff is very pleasant and breakfast, while self serve, offered a good variety of choices. The hotel is located in the heart of the downtown near to theatres, restaurants and art galleries. It is our "go to" when we visit Helena.

    5

    « Excellent Hotel Experience »

Thank you for making my stay at the hotel in Helen such a pleasant one. The proximity to the businesses and food options was very nice. I was there for a conference and stayed at the host hotel so it was a very nice experience considering I didn't really need to search anything else.

« Best Western Great Northern Hotel »

The hotel was great; nicely appointed and the room was great. The "in hotel" Steakhouse was very good (have eaten there before as well). Our only complaint was that out suite on the 3rd floor had an adjoining door with the room next to us. It allowed A LOT of sound to pass through...especially the plaintive cries of the 2-3 year old toddler during the evening, night, and morning!

    1
    « Don't stay here »

The room froze us out so we went to the hot tub to warm up. We met another couple there who were warming up, too. The lighting in the room was too dim to read, once we jumped under the blankets to stay warm. The all-in-one fancy Apple charger/clock was set 3 hours and 23 minutes fast so we could not see the time during the long night. The bathroom fan didn't work. The coffee was terrible.

    « Very Clean! »

Enjoyed a peaceful and clean stay. The hotel staff was very accommodating for our variety of technological and meeting needs. Just around the corner from the airport and walking distance to a variety of restaurants. The daily complimentary full-breakfast was excellent and offered something different each day.

« Great hotel in Helana »

Great location, excellent staff, and nice hotel. I always stay here when I come to Helena on business. I'm always comfortable and well taken care of. It's definitely not your typical chain hotel and they have all the amenities needed by a business traveler.

    4
« Nice but not Premier »

This is a pleasant hotel but did not find the quality or the location justified the PREMIER status or cost. This was the 6th night in three weeks that I have stayed at a Best Western: 3 nights at BW, 1 night at BW Plus and 1 at BW Premier. So having them close together allowed me to judge what they offered. There is not much difference - often only the appearance and comfort of the lobby. Something I don't normally go to a hotel for that experience. So overall a pleasant stay, pleasant staff but nothing I didn't see in the less expensive Best Western hotels. Also found the location of this hotel oddly isolated from Helena if your purpose is to visit this city.

    « Great Place »

We were only here for the night but the room was nice and bed was comfortable. We ate dinner in the bar/restaurant and it was great! I use to live in Helena and had been to this hotel from conferences and business events and liked it then, that is why we chose to stay there. Wish we could have spent more than the night.

Highest remarks for any of the Best Westerns I have stayed in. You could not ask for more. A bit hard to located in the heart of Helena. Great shopping near by, excellent food stops in the area. Great if your doing business in the down town area. Airport shuttle.

    « Had a great overnighter... »

While we didn't get much time to enjoy all that the hotel may have had to offer, we did enjoy the King Suite this last weekend. The room was huge, clean, and had comfortable furniture. If we have the need for a local hotel again, we'd definately consider it, although for the price we'd probably end up at one of the local high-end B&Bs.

    « Best hotel in Helena......hands down »

Not only a great facility, but the staff goes out of their way to be welcoming and pleasant. Always smiles on their faces. We recently started bringing our dog on trips to Helena and fortunate to find the Great Northern welcomes dogs. Dog treats at check-in!! Perfect setting in the Gulch too. Enjoy!!

« Great Value for your money »

We stayed for one night in this hotel during a road trip from Galcier N.P. to Yellowstone N.P. Staff was very helpful when we arrived and asked for a room. All parts of the hotel are in a good shape, clean and look friendly. Our room faced the indoor pool which was a little bit funny but didn't bother us at all, so we just had to walk 4 steps from our bed to splash in. Beds were very comfy, so we had a good rest. The room was large enough for us and equipped with a minibar and a large desk. The steakhouse in the hotel is excellent and we enjoyed a nice evening with good food there. The breakfast was not outstanding but ok to satisfy your hunger. Overall a really nice experience, we would for sure return to this hotel.

    « Fabulous Hotel! »

This hotel was super clean and very updated. The rooms were large and very nice. There was a note telling us to have a great stay from the housekeeper when we first got there which was a nice gesture. All the workers were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was located in a very cool part of town. This was our first time visiting Helena. This hotel was the best and we would definitely stay here again! Thanks.

« Extraordinarily Accomodating for Families »

Our family needed to check in super early and check out super late. The Great Northern Hotel was the only one of the five we contacted willing to work with us. The other hotels said we'd need to pay for three nights instead of the one we actually needed overnight. Fantastic services!

Good location for this clean and comfortable hotel. Have stayed here many times and will continue to do so. There are newer hotels in Helena and they are not as conveniently located as this one. Hotel owners are conscientious about keeping the hotel fresh and updated.

This is a great hotel, and I love that it uses the trademark of the old Great Northern Railway. The room was spacious and comfortable; bathroom great, and the in-room coffee service had real mugs! The location in old Helena was delightful.

« Never been disappointed at this hotel »

I visited here for a business related conference. The hotel is located near the Last Chance Gulch shops and restaurants - easy walk or drive. The hotel staff is and looks professional and is attentive and courteous. The room was clean, large and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The breakfast was good and offered a variety of options and was tasty. Check out was effortless. The price was competitive for the quality of product and service offered. I have stayed here in the past, usually on business related matters, and never been disappointed in any way.

    « Always a relaxing comfortable visit »

Having stayed at this location several times now we are never disappointed with the quality of sleep and room amenities, the staff is always top notch and dependable, it's like home away from home for us. It is ideally located for walking and checking out local eateries, coffee shops or shopping. Off-season prices are better for those of us from Canada with our poor Canadian dollar at present. Visits may be harder to come by if our dollar continues to fall in value. We will miss Helena for sure!

« Clean, Comfortable and Convienient »

This was my sixth stay in as many years and the quality of the experience has been consistent. Staff is well trained, courteous and efficient. The rooms and facility are well appointed, impeccably clean and comfortable. Really first rate! A special kudu to Vernisha, our housekeeper. Our room was immaculate!

« Spectacular Place to Stay! »

My husband and I stayed here for a couple nights while in town for a friend's wedding, and it is truly a beautiful hotel! This hotel is located right across the street from Carroll College and is adjacent to the carousel. There are lots of great restaurants and bars within walking distance, and Last Chance Gulch isn't too far away. As for the hotel itself, the amenities are wonderful! Beautifully decorated rooms, a great pool and hot tub, and fast Wi-Fi make for a comfortable stay. The continental breakfast is also quite robust...lots of choices! You can bring pets as well. We were pleasantly surprised to be given a room that walks directly out onto a patio where the dogs could stretch their legs! This hotel is a bit on the pricier side of what you'll find in Helena, but it's worth every cent!

« This property is slipping »

Housekeeping seems to be spending more time writing cute notes to the guest to "have a great stay" instead of doing their job. In my last two stays, I've found broken lights, a plugged toilet from the prior guest, and a full garbage can from the prior guest. For $140/night, this property is no longer a value.

    « Great Hotel! »

Felt very homey and comfortable. The staff were helpful and personable. The rooms are clean and quiet, the breakfast was hot, and there is a great creperie next door for a special treat. Plus, they offered yummy sugar cookies at the front desk each evening! ;)
