Resumen de la reserva
The Hotel is located on the main drag near the downtown area and the south accessway to Comox island. The building itself is impressive and comfortable complete with a casual Dining Room, a billiard bar where you can play billiards or pool, get fine whisky's at the bar or in the lounge in the main building. There are three restaurants on the premises, just a brief step from the main building, and all serve good food and have excellent service. Two of the restaurants have live entertainment. So if you are staying any length of time you can sample them all. I would say this place is a nexus in Courtenay. The rooms are modern and clean.
Our first accommodation fell through and we didn't discover it until we arrived in a torrential rain storm so we just showed up at the Best Western Westerly Hotel and crossed our fingers. We checked prices online and they matched the best price we found through TripAdvisor and their partners. The staff was super friendly, the check-in was easy. They signed us up for their rewards program in a heartbeat. Our standard room was clean with comfy queen beds and had recently been renovated or updated. The toiletries in the room were luxurious. The parking lot was full and it was tricky on a busy and rainy night finding parking. That can be more clearly marked. Our stay included breakfast the next day in the family restaurant and our breakfast was excellent with generous portions.
The staff at the hotel are always , seem to rember who you are even after just a few visits. I love the stone oven pizza , a must have even if you stay elsewhere. The rooms are new , clean and quite. Has a great gym and spa area best value in the area...
Lack of elevators in the section we were assigned made our stay very difficult and the staff seemed less than caring when I complained. Further, there was no effort to provide better accommodations. Our ages are 78 and 75 and we can negotiates stairs but not with luggage.
We checked in and our room was located right above the pool tables, which the lady at the desk told us that it gets very busy and noisey. That was the first red flag, then we went to our room and it was overlooking a dingy parking lot that was closed down, and the room smelled musty. We decided to go back to the desk and ask for another room. We ended up upgrading to their new add on rooms, and the room was amazing!!! Bed was so comfortable, and the room was fresh smelling and also had a nice deck. The bathroom was a nice size also. We would definitely recommend staying in the new part of the hotel. We would not ever stay in the older part of the hotel again
I recently had my first stay at this hotel. I found the parking to be challenging in front of the hotel but found some parking underneath the hotel. Normally I'm okay with that but since the elevator was out of commission, i had to haul my luggage up a couple flights of stairs to my room. Check in was fairly easy and while they don't offer a free breakfast, they do offer a 6 dollar voucher for their games lounge and a 7 dollar voucher for any of the restaurant. I stayed just above reception in the main building. My room was clean and internet worked well. I was disappointed using the "warmtub". For some reason, Best Western hotels do not heat their hot tubs up to or near max temps like most other hotel chains do. There are no towels anywhere in the pool area. I was told later that towels are available in the washrooms. There are no signs telling anyone that and if you don't use the washroom, how are you to know? I went for a couple drinks in the games lounge. The bartender was friendly and attentive but 8 dollars for a rum and coke?? Really?? I had breakfast the next morning in their restaurant which was plentiful and tasted good. Again, staff was friendly and welcoming. This hotel will not be my first choice while staying in the Courtenay area. It appears that there are some renovations happening on the property but for now, their strong suit is their friendly staff. Weakness is value for price.
Have experienced many BW but really like this one. Staff very helpful, room clean and comfortable and love the choices of where to have a drink, eat, great oven fired pizza, 10 craft beers to choose from. Beautiful big sitting area where you can bring your own glass of wine and pick up a pizza or tapas right beside it. Two grocery stores within walking distance and a bonus, a Starbucks across the street. Oh yes and a balcony.
I have stayed here before and find the service very good and consistent. Check in was perfect and room was well laid out and clean and comfortable. Prices are reasonable and your receive a $7 voucher each and used if for breakfast. Nice pool and hot tub area. Good job!
Great hotel, located in the middle of Courtenay, within walking distance to everything. There is a bar/restaurant on the premises. they have a great selection of locally brewed craft beers to sample, casual atmosphere. I always enjoy my stay at the westerly
Rooms are large- with microwaves, icebox, coffee makers etc,,,,comfortable and clean,,,staff is friendly and helpful....the breakfast was outstanding ( the kitchen also the kitchen for the pub)....reasonably priced
The room was spacious with coffee machine, bar fridge, microwave and lovely shower. The bed was super comfy. There was a small deck off our room. A/C worked well. Just across the street from our favourite restaurant - The Local.
I stayed at this hotel for a night during the winter. The young man working the front desk as absolutely amazing, great customer service. Room was clean, great wifi and TV selection. Quiet even while the bar within the hotel was running. Only negative was the water in the hot tub wasn't super clean but whatever, great hotel.
We went up to Courtenay for an overnight getaway to do some shopping and relax and to spend time away. We have stayed at this hotel many times before. We were unable to get a room with a king size bed. So we were offered a room with two queen size beds in it. Service at the front desk was average. Parking at this hotel isn't the greatest. Our room was neat and tidy. You could see that the bathroom had been upgraded. The beds were horrible. They should have been replaced. There were hollows in the soft sagged out mattresses. Pillows were small and too soft. When we checked out the next day we advised the desk clerk regarding the mattresses. She did not say much. We were given vouchers for free breakfast to compensate for the complaint. I feel they could have done more due to the fact we did not have a good nights sleep.
Rooms are clean and the stay was good however would definitely prefer to have the hot breakfast offered as most Best Western hotels do include a very good breakfast. The breakfast we had to pay for had terrible service.
Staying at The Westerly for 2 weeks for business and wanted to bring my Mountain bike so I could ride after work. Best western called 1 week before to verify my accommodation. I asked about a secure place for my bike and they replied "Oh, you can bring it in your room or leave it in behind the office here at reception in a secure room" Well, I was sold right there. After seeing my room which was very well appointed including the regular fridge, coffee maker and microwave, well, I was duly impressed that they not only use real glass unlike another chain down the road but they also have wine glasses! The best part is that they have balconies so you can relax outside in the sun after your day. The rooms are very clean and the pool is wonderful and warm. I really enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to my home away from home when I come back. I travel a lot and these guys do service very well IMHO..:)
safe..this review takes too long already covered everything what more do you want?? Comox is a very pretty area and the drive up from Victoria is also lovely. The weather can be chancy on that part of the Island and we were attending an out of doors wedding but luckily it was warm and sunny.
Friendly staff and a well appointed room. Breakfast was not included but we each received a seven dollar coupon to use at the restaurant. The West Coast Eggs Benedict were great! Express check-out worked well.
This hotel has sort of a weird setup as it is connected to a senior living complex that was undergoing renovations during our stay. There is also a newer portion in a separated building that we did not enter. The room was comfortable and had everything you would expect and need. There is plenty of acceptable dining and lounge options right on the premises which make it very convenient.
slightly overpriced location in Courtenay. Havn't stayed here for skiing, but for work. Rooms are a bit outdated, as is the design of everything but the lobby. Fitness center is an odd telephone booth type room, next to an indoor pool that would appeal if you were about 9. Staff are courteous and helpful, great having the beer joint next door. some updates to the hotel would help it compete with the really much better Old house that is a block away.
A very clean friendly way to end a long day. Exvellent facilities. Helpful staff. Would recommend this property anytime. Went alone this time but it had everything the Kids would have enjoyed as well. Thanks.
Lobby was nice enough and the server at breakfast was fantastic! The down side.... We were given a room in the old section underneath a group of gorillas! Think ceiling and guests that were moving around all night. Made a complaint to the front desk in the morning and was very rudely told that I should have let them know in the middle of the night, I tried but they didn't answer the phone!!?? Absolutely no apologies or offers of compensation??? We stayed in 6 different hotels on our vacation to the Island, this one was the only disappointment!! Michael Demers
Rooms are bare bone minimum, though good size. Zero thrills, breakfast is a subsidized affair with a credit towards a hotel restaurant where you inevitably need to pay a few dollars for your breakfast.
This hotel is impressive for a Canadian BW. The lobby opens out onto a huge comfy lounge accented by a large fireplace, leather armchairs, unique indigenous art, one wall of glass that goes up to the ceiling for beautiful natural lighting to complement the chandeliers. This chalet-like sitting area is across from the games room/ pub where billiard tables, dart boards, sports screen and pub food/drink can be had. There are 2 buildings: we were put in the old one (cheaper) where the lobby is. Unfortunately, the room is old in the sense that the doors slam loudly, and I can hear my neighbour downstairs flush or shower because the water pipes are that loud, or the walls are that thin? The room was fine otherwise: free wifi worked, hot shower, clean bedding. You are given $7 vouchers per adult per night stay for the hotel's attached Westerly Family Restaurant or Flying Canoe West Coast Pub (they share the same kitchen) or games room. We found this to be a great deal for the family restaurant as the food and portions are quality and favourably-priced to start with. Kids' menu and seniors' rates available. Restaurant definitely lacks ambience but food makes up for it. Wheel-chair accessible. There is a liquor store next door and a (Thrifty's) grocery store across the street. Good value for money for a family staying in February (ski season at Mt Washington)!
Hotel is very clean, quiet and comfortable. Great value for the money. Beds are very comfortable, bathrooms are very updated and clean. Service was friendly. Discount for Best Western members and free parking.
The hotel staff were mostly very helpful, friendly, and professional. The service we received was generally well above what I would expect for a hotel that was in an inconsistent state of disrepair. The games room was abysmal, the restaurant food was overcooked, and our door lock did not open with the key cards consistently - but, again, the staff were very friendly and did what they could to take care of things. So... overall it was okay?
The registration was very quick and efficient, room was ready and very clean as well as easily accessible with the luggage. The room was cleaned to perfection and the check in and out staff were very friendly as well as efficient.
This hotel is older, but the service and care make up for it! Give it a try, they are fabulous! We were tired after skiing, after arriving in Victoria from our flight the day prior, and the young man at the counter helped us out, checked us in easily, then helped carry our varied belongs to our rooms! They even made sure there were warm towels for the pool and hot-tub!
Lovely place. Friendly staff - good people all around. Adding more rooms - catering to seniors and their needs which is a welcome and much needed amenity. We only stay at Best Westerns and especially the pet friendly ones.
Clean, warm and accommodating. Hot tub could use an upgrade but that's about it! We always stay here when we head to the Mountain! We had a great dinner in the lounge area with our kids cause the Pub was the only place open so they served our family there! It was perfect.
Very happy with my first time stay at this Hotel. The updated room I had was on the top floor. Beautiful balcony, extremely comfortable bed, in fact most comfortable I have ever slept in, in a hotel. Bathroom was spacious. Room decor was lovely and the room was very tidy and clean. Was totally quiet for my stay. I will stay here again and in fact have already booked my next stay.
Overall a good stay. However I perfer to not be asked to do a survey after every stay. How many more words do you need to be satesfied. mxzcbjkuhsifuwaksjcvnhksaidjfkasjnoisdjckjbakkdjskfhbkdsjlisdnhfjsdhaliidjksajflsdjfkndsalojdfksdhflsdaojfknsaljdksabddlsandfdhk
I stay at the BW in Courtenay every time i'm in town. Its central, easy to find, has great pub and restaurant. the rooms are comfortable and spacious. It has everything i need when i'm on the road. Great value!
My stay at this hotel was pleasant. I especially liked the signs directing me to the parking at the lower level; they were clear. More underground parking would have been nice, but it was adequate. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The bonus of a $7 food voucher was a nice touch.
Was in Courtenay on business for a week + had a guest room plus meeting room. The catering and sales staff were excellent. James seemed to be in charge and he was extremely helpful at all times as was the front desk staff. Can't say enough nice things about them. The room attendants also seem very friendly based on the limited interaction I had with them in the hallways. The hotel is situated at the cross of two major roads in Courtenay. There is a shopping center across the street with 2 starbucks. In the hotel there are ample areas to eat and drink. the Flying Canoe is a major pub serving decent food. IN the hotel lobby there is a lounge (Chalk) with pool tables and darts. The hotel restaurant (The Westerly) made a decent omolette in the mornings. There is also a liquor store and a craft brewery in the building although I didn't try them. The rooms are standard Best Western rooms and adequate for business travel. I will most likely stay here again when I'm in Courtenay.
The front desk staff was wonderful to deal with. The Flying Canoe lounge was a great place to relax with a few drinks and supper. Only complaint would be no bath tub in the room. Overall value was great and would definitely stay again.
On arrival it was a very quick check in, greeted by excellent staff, arrived at a very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable room. Hotel is centrally located, so quick access to shopping. Excellent stay.
It wasn't a good experience because I had got into a car accident and everything is been made more difficult to get there and they wouldn't or couldn't help accommodate and have some compassion for somebody that I just been in an accident very frustrating the first night went to try to get some sleep and there was a live band playing until after midnight. It would have been fine to have a live band but sometimes when there isn't proper installation it's an inconvenience to people who are trying to get some rest
Our overall experience was fantastic, staff was kind, helpful and polite. The only downfall is the bar. Both I and my hubby woke from people outdoors smoking, as well as at bar closing time. Beds are great, nice blackout curtains, but you can't mute intoxicated people sadly.
This hotel offers a fantastic destination for adventurers in the Courtenay / Comox area. Featuring kayaking, fishing, mountain biking and skiing. As well with all things to taste from the ocean. Walks along the seaside beach to hiking up Mt Washington, the Westerly hotel can be your home base with great food and amenities. I recommend a stay here any time of season.
The exterior and lobby are nice and there is a pub and liquor store on site but the access to the room went right by a fairly open bar area with intoxicated people. The hallways and stairwell was very outdated, as was the room. Very noisy also. The front desk staff was very friendly and professional though. If it was more than a 6 hour stay, I would have asked for a different room.
Great stay here. Staff were helpful and very pleasant to deal with. Games room in the hotel made it fun and the amenities around are very convenient. Only disappointment was the pool and hot tub were under maintenance. That's it though. Would stay again for sure.
Staying there for business, the staff was friendly and very helpful, the restaurant service impeccable. Had a choice of family restaurant or pub. Could sit in the lounge area with a fireplace and they would bring your food to you there if you chose. Extra-curricular activities re pool tables area, and bar. The rooms were beautiful, spotlessly clean. Would stay there again for sure.
We've stayed here 3 times now. In 3 separate areas of the hotel. Very few amenities at all - management even apologized for it. They promised robes but only one was given. No wine glasses... no breakfast. There is a restaurant/pub right on the premises which had entertainment and great food - loved THAT! It's a decent place to stay...
Checked in for 1 night. Personable staff at the desk. No continental breakfast but was given a $7 voucher good for any of the 3 restaurants. Could even use it for a drink in the pub. Clean comfortable rooms and beds. A bit older but has been updated. WiFi a little slow. Couldn't quite get the ac unit set to the correct temperature. Either blowing too hot or too cold. Very quiet room. Close enough walk to a few other restaurants and some shopping. Pool area was closed for maintenance. Good place too stay.
As a diamond member through best western i would recommend this hotel to anyone whos looking for good accomadation . Its close to all amenities , wifi is really fast , quiet , they do have a laundry facility which is very clean and up to date. I also enjoyed the breakfest they give you a 7.00 off coupon towards your breakfest and the quality of food is decent, and the servers are extremely fast so you wait for your food within 10 minutes of ordering !
The hotel is fine, the breakfast was fine. It was a good stopping point for a night on our journey from Port McNeill to Victoria. We booked it nearly a year before arriving yet were placed in a room with a disabled wet room and a balcony that faced the back of a large outlet building. On top of that, when we asked for directions to downtown we were told we were pretty much there, which we felt was an attempt to get us to eat at their pub/restaurant. We ignored this and walked the three-quarter mile to find a range of bars, pubs and restaurants! You work it out. When I gave this feedback to BW, they did apologise and offer to treat us better on our next visit. We live 8000 miles away. There will not be a next time.
My Wife and I have been staying at the Courtenay Best western Hotel for over 20 years. On this trip the Best Western Hotel's service was beyond excellent right from check in to checkout hotel staff was very courteous and friendly and spoke to us in a very professional manner. The room was in top-notch condition, the King-size bed was very comfortable. Room was quiet. We absolutely taken back by the quality of food, selection and presentation of the Thursday night Senior's turkey dinner for $11. per person. There was no doubt in our minds it was one of the most reasonable dinners the City. After we applied the $7.00 hotel check-in voucher against the meal our net meal payment was $4.00 before tip! How does any hotel beat that for service? I highly recommend the Best Western in Courtenay as the best hotel to stay at when when visiting Comox - Courtenay. I have never been disappointed by their hospitality, food service and the quality of our sleep when staying at the Courtenay Best Western..
very comfy quiet room at the back of the hotel. Very helpful friendly staff, good accommodation and meals. I will be back for sure the next time I travel up Island. I stay here several times a year and am never dissapointed
Check in was OK until a Front Desk Agent took a phone call while she was checking us in. ( I've taught customer service training in the past for variety of workplace including hotels.). You can tell the caller was upset and wanted to talk to a manager. So you can tell the conversation was not going well. The FDA finally looked at us and mouthed " sorry". A customer in front of you should always be the priority! The place is going under the renovation and it really needs it. I must give a credit to the housekeeping staff for doing the best they can for the outdated property... it was clean including the balcony area. We run into a couple of them and they were very friendly and courteous. Other things to be noted... The balcony was so, so, so noisy that it was impossible to stay to enjoy the fresh air. Speaking of air... we get a whiff of cigarette smoke... a woman next door to us was smoking on her balcony. My quick call to the front desk confirms that guests are allowed to smoke on balcony of non smoking rooms. We quickly had to close the patio door. The smoke was coming into our room. The FDA's last word was we can't do anything about it. Well... you could have said it differently and no negative review from me. The bath tub was clogged and draining really slowly. No fridge... I should have read between the line I'm glad it was just a quick stop on our way to Quadra. I hope things will be different after the renovation...
Stayed here one night recently after the ferry from Powell River. I really like Courtney and this hotel is very nice and comfortable place to spend a night or two. Prices are a bit on the high side if you just want a place to sleep, but it is nice. They also give you a 7$ gift certificate to spend on whatever in the hotel. I applied it to supper. It is easy access from the main highway and parking is easy. There is both a pub/restaurant on site as well as a family restaurant. It is a kind of sprawling place which is under going construction right now but I did not experience any discomfort as a result. If you are in need of a place you could consider this. I was happy with it. More expensive, I would have scored it lower.
Zero issues with this hotel. It had everything. For an older hotel, it has worked hard to get itself fixed up. Its a bit confusing at first as the lobby is tucked in the corner, the new wing is not attached to the building...to get to the pool you have to go to the basement...parking lot is underneath and behind...but spend 10 minutes walking around and you will figure it all out. Had everything and then some (restaurant, lounge, pool tables, swimming pool and fitness)...room was clean...loved having a fridge, microwave and Keurig...location is perfect and was very quiet...would definitely stay there again
I liked that it had free Wi-Fi and that the bed was comfortable. I have stayed at this hotel every time I have come to Courtney. I find the price very reasonable. The towels could be a little softer but like most hotels they are stiff. The bed had a great duvet on it and it was so comfy.
Value for what you pay. Old back part of hotel is being turned into retirement units and won't be part of hotel in future. Get a room in the newer section at the front if possible. Staff were very friendly. Hotel is convenient to lots of stuff, including goods eats, etc.
Beautiful brand new lobby is very nice. Once you enter the area where the rooms are, this hotel feels 20 years old and the rooms are very, very basic. Clean, but very basic. Disappointing, really. I had high hopes from the web pictures and from the quality of the lobby. Renovations appear to be underway, which is promising...
The property is quite nice, the river building is currently under in renovation. The room was clean and modern, the hall and elevator area is looking a little tired. I hope this is part of the renovation. The lounge, Pub, restaurant. All appeared to be a modern and clean. Service In the public was excellent, service at breakfast was excellent too
This is the hotel we always stay at in Courtenay. I've researched other accommodation and what they offer (mostly just curious), and always return here. We usually dine in the restaurant, which has very good buffet dinners, but tried the Canoe Pub this time. I actually ate there twice. The service is good and the menu is even better. Great experience again.
Not acceptable!! Poor quality hotel, food not satisfactory, staff not interested in guests. Air conditioning not working in two rooms, had to move twice, staff didn't offer to help at all. Swimming pool was way down two flights of stairs, felt like you were walking into something scarey.
This is a well place hotel. However the noise from the grate on the bridge as cars travel over the bridge is irritating. Staff were friendly and rooms clean and as usual hotel bed comfortable. The bar/lounge has good food but the music was far too loud and drove us out as we no longer could carry on a conversation.
Renovations are ongoing so I will try this hotel when it has been updated. There is nothing really wrong with the rooms except they are somewhat dismal, old and tired. There is a new wing of the hotel but much pricier. However the staff was wonderful and the breakfast in the restaurant was very good.
Conveniently located in central Courtenay. Nicely appointed rooms and very clean. Within walking distance of good dining and shopping. Reasonably priced even in the summer peak travel time. Would definitely stay here again.
Nice hotel & very quiet! considering it's right in the middle of town. Our room was on 5th floor facing the parking court yard with a covered smoking/sitting area in the center,( which incidentally had proper inconspicuous ashtrays and seats so there were no cig butts all over the place, nice and clean) with the pub & restaurant on the other side, we were pleasantly surprised at how orderly and quiet everything was even though the hotel was fully booked. The pub was a busy place with average food the restaurant food was pretty good and properly prepared even though it was very close to closing by the time we got there....the service was also good. the little brew company on the main floor is a beer tasting spot, locally made beers, there was a jazz band on the Fri night. You only had to go steps away to get to everything, Star Bucks across the street along with a Thrifty foods, etc and restaurant and separate pub right there on the property. Over all a decent stay and will stay there again next time we are in Courtney.
I was in Courtney for business and used the restaurant in the hotel. Fast, efficient service. The room was huge, with a balcony. It was nice to sit outside in plus 25 degree weather when the sun had gone down. Service at the desk was fantastic
Rooms are too pricey for a small town. We have to move the beds because of the air conditioning are directly beside it, we are located at the old bldg and you have to navigate thru doors and no elevator.
We spent a night at the Westerly and found it to be a very satisfactory hotel. Good central location and easy to find. The room was clean and met our needs. No concerns. No complaints. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a $7:00 per person coupon which we used to decrease the cost of a very good breakfast. Our young make server was attentive, friendly and engaging. The front desk staff were outgoing, professional and very appropriate. I expect we'll stay at the Westerly the next time we're in Courtenay.
Needs repairs Very noisy 7$ breakfast voucher not helpful and food was expensive Shower could not turn off Bottom dead bolt not working Very noisy Requested ground floor room was given room higher off ramp with long walk so had to pay and leave my show dog at the dog show as room was not suitable to be able to walk in and out and I could not carry my stuff to room
We enjoyed all aspects of this fine establishment. I was really excited they have an EV charging station as that worked great for me. Staff are friendly, attentive and proud of the work they do for the company so that adds to my satisfaction knowing they feel valued by the company. Breakfast food was delightful, as is the view from that restaurant.
Overall poor experience from musty odour from old carpeting throughout the building to not getting what I reserved and being told they had lots of reservations that week. What is the point of making a reservation if they don't give you what you ask for?
We've stayed here before, but pretty sure it has been updated since then. Room felt super clean and beds were comfortable. Yes two beds on our couples get away weekend :-). Last minute decision so we were lucky to even get a room over the long weekend in August. What can I say, we made it work. This hotel is suitable for couples and families alike. Pool and hot tub available. Didn't use either this time neither did we use the games room but had fun there with the children last time we visited. Got $28 worth of food vouchers as part of our deal, so we enjoyed some food and adult bevvies at the Flying Canoe. Very conveniently located onsite. Thrifty foods is right across the street so easy to pick up anything you forget to bring from home. I highly recommend this hotel.
Clean, above average rooms, with all essentials needed for a short term stay. Not fancy, but well run establishment with caring staff. Right in the heart of downtown Courtenay, with lots of shopping, close to the ocean, and the town of Comox, which has lovely ocean views, great parks etc.
We've been staying at Best Western for many years. And with our travels, it is rare that we can't find a Best Western anywhere we travel. Always have great staff and amenities. The rewards program is an excellent perk too! And as we often travel with our two small dogs, it is nice to have good pet-friendly rooms.
Check in service was good and personable. Room was a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. Hotel has some areas undergoing renovation, that did not impact our stay. We were given a $7 voucher for the attached restaurants, and we went to the Canoe pub, which was exactly what we wanted. Good value for the money, but maybe not for a long stay.
Hotel is located in the centre of the city. Check-in was pleasant and easy. Two night stay garnered 4 - $7.00 vouchers. Restaurants were fine. Our issue was the co-mingling of air freshener and cigarette smoke in the hallway and room. They would take turns over powering each other. Open the balcony door and the chain smokers on the lower decks, their cigarettes wafting up into our room. Later on it was a DRIFT of Marijuana. The 5 degree ramp from checkout was strange, building is under renovation. Lastly, the metal bridge located nearby and the constant reverberation of tires was very annoying.
My wife and 2 kids and I stayed here on the way through comox valley, great location, everything within walking distance . Rooms were good , beds comfy , but most importantly, the staff , especially Kyle at the front desk were great , Kyle was very friendly and courteous towards us , went out of his way to make our stay that much better ! Thanks again Kyle !
Had to find a place at the last minute and this one was available. Desk clerks great, but the room wasn't. Toilet didn't flush and the floor lamp light bulb was missing. This hotel is a mid-century accommodation that needs updating.
This is when I wish I could give a 3.5. Nothing really wrong but not up to my Best Western expectations. Room was fine, spacious and clean but there was a cobweb on the ceiling. Front desk was okay but person on training did not help when we inquired about the onsite restaurant. My wife is Celiac and nothing on their menu suggested they could accommodate that although perhaps they could have. The staff could have asked on our behalf. We went offsite for dinner. Hard to pinpoint but it felt like it was okay to good but not excellent. Perhaps a 4 would be fair. I think it was very expensive for what we got although a local music festival might have been why. Probably cheaper tonite which is disappointing.
Noisy from outside, toilet had not been cleaned very well, situated near a steel deck bridge that sounded like a race car taking off every time a vehicle drove over it,which started about 5am and lasted until well after midnight.
Often stay at this hotel when we are in Courtenay. The have consistently great service, a great little pub beside the lobby and clean rooms. The building could use some upgrading but they seem to always be upgrading something. Great location overlooking the river and close to everything.
Our room was extremely dingy, and in desperate need of renovations. Not worth anything close to $180 including tax. Wallpaper peeling away in bathroom, disgusting balcony. I emailed complaint with photos to Best Western but no one bothered to get back to me. Not surprised. I'll be staying at another hotel in future.
This Best Western is marketing itself as a hotel, but it is more of a glorified motel. Accomodation is split into multiple buildings with over half the rooms facing a parking lot despite being on the river. We checked in after a long flight. Unfortunately this took a while as the only front desk agent stopped our check in process to answer the phone. The police later showed up to attend an issue at one of the bars here. So I guess it's good they have a good dialogue with the local authorities. The rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade. But it seems like that may be in process. A big plus, the towels were really soft and fluffy. Express check-out was a breeze.
Nice hotel, great swimming pool and games room, nice bar & club, but understaffing in the kitchen during busy periods. Breakfast took us more than an hour, and the small children in our family group were served last.
Good location, due to the layout of the hotel any of the inner ground level rooms are very noisy. This is a good location for vacationers and families, but maybe not the best for business travel. If you need to work in your room. Would stay here with my family as they have a great games area.
Excellent stay... very helpful staff and clean and comfortable rooms. Great location in town - central to the Courtenay -Comox Valley area. I would recommend this as first choice for business and pleasure.
Can't say enough good about this place. We came across from Powell River, arriving in Courtenay in the mid-morning. I asked, at noon, if we could please be let into our room, so we could change for a wedding we were attending. The young man at the desk, (I thought he was English, but was actually Australian,) was MOST polite, and was able to get us into our room. So very nice - they sure didn't have to do that for us, but they did. The room faced the river, and was so quiet, we fell asleep quickly - woke up in a panic thinking we might be late for the wedding, but we weren't! After the wedding, we came back to this place, and we slept for nine solid hours. We never sleep more than 6 to 7 hours per night, so this place helps you if your are sleep deprived! The hotel gave us two seven dollar vouchers for breakfast, which was totally unexpected, but very happily taken. Had one of the best breakfasts there. The hotel is undergoing restoration/renovations. The lobby is beautiful, and perhaps this is an indication of where this place is going. We felt we would stay here again if we were in the area.
We usually try to stay at a hotel affiliated with our Air Miles sponsors. Usually BW or Holiday Inns, we like to have the free continental breakfast included. Hotel in Courtenay was clean, quiet, comfortable.
We enjoyed staying at this hotel and the town of Courtenay in the spring and opted for a return visit. The walking path into town along the river is a short distance from the main door. the town of Courtenay is absolutely charming.
There is no better welcome for a returning guest than to be remembered, despite not having been at the location for more than a year. Kudos to the amazing front desk staff, in particular, Tyler, who always remembers the guests, their preferences and their wishes. He goes above and beyond every day and makes all the difference.
Average hotel, but I wouldn't stay here again. It was loud (which is unavoidable from the downtown aspect, but certainly avoidable in the sense that I don't need to hear my "neighbours" - insulation is a great thing), fairly run down, the carpet in the rooms was dirty, the sheets certainly didn't look fresh (this is why I bring a full set of sweatpants etc to sleep in), elevator was a little sketchy, the doors would open before it fully arrived at the floor. Staff were nice, but I have no other positives to add here.
This is a great spot when visiting Courtenay, BC . The rooms are clean. Halls are quiet. Staff is super friendly. It also has some good restaurants onsite, with a good variety of menu items. Great place to stay when in Courtenay, BC.
Excellent all you really need for an unstressful rest after a mixed up overbooked westjet flight Staff kind and friendly amenities all there. Good location. Clean rooms sets the example for what service should be.
Only a $7.00 voucher toward a breakfast or dinner meal, which does not cover any meal. Even the cheapest breakfast meal is $9.00, so you always have to add some of your own hard earned money. Almost all Best Western hotels give you at least a full breakfast.
We stayed in the separate wing of the hotel and it was very nice. Check in and check our were handled very professionally. Great complimentary breakfast which makes it even a better deal. Would stay there again.
Hotel is located in the best possible place with all amenities less than 2 minutes away. Quality hotel and very good service. Restaurant, Pub and Jazz lounge in house. Business Centre and Wifi plus morning newspaper.
The BW is on the edge of town right next to Hwy 19A and the road to Comox and the Powell River ferry - very handy. Close to downtown. As a craft beer fan I was delighted to discover a brewery onsite although not associated with the hotel. Hotel rate reasonable for the room provided. Will stay again.
Great staff, very clean and quiet room, comfortable and large rooms. Breakfast is a voucher for restaurant. wonderful dessert delivered to our room easy check out. located walking distance from shops and parks
Nice hotel, Small rooms, limited menu, Nice fitness room & pool, no fridge or Micro wave in room.. Great location, friendly staff, old rooms.. Lobby is nice, old decor in annex building..Parking is OK
Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was a comfortable size, very clean, good bed and linens. Only issue with room facing the river was tire noise from vehicles going over the bridge but it wasn't loud enough to disturb us. Adjoining restaurant with varied menu, reasonable prices, and very friendly staff. Would recommend this hotel.
Best hotel in Courtnay! Would stay there again for sure. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Other guests were loud, but that dosent reflect on the quality of the establishment. I would reccomend staying here.
Great value; for the price. Extremely clean rooms even though dated. Was very quiet room. Vouchers given for breakfast were greatly appreciated. Staff on check in were very friendly and service in restaurant was great. Would definitely stay again. Met my expectations for a Best Western property.
clean, comfortable, quiet. Restraurant had good food. Good location . Comfortable beds and the room was very clean . Stayed there for 2 nights on business and had a very comfortable stay.. The room was quiet and the hotel staff friendly and helpful. I would certainly not hesitate to go back or to recommend this hotel to anyone passing thru Courtney. I will definitely be back.
Was a really easy stay due to the access of their on site options. Was a short drive to downtown which has some wonderful boutique style shops. Lots of parking for any size of vehicle. Room was nicely set up and decorated.
Hotel looks nice from outside. Staff and rooms meet expectations of best western quality. The pool could be bigger. Outside parking was limited for space infront of the wing we were in but overall we would definitely stay again
A comfortable place to stay and recover from the days traveling. I always get the Best rate through their website plus they include 2 drink food certificates worth $14! Close to the major venues, shopping areas, and river walks
This hotel was a great location - 6-8 minute walking distance to town of Courtenay. The rooms and overall hotel were very clean. Staff were helpful and courteous. It was a bonus to receive a $7.00 voucher per day that could be used towards food/beverage in either of their 3 restaurant/pub/lounge. Beds/pillows were comfortable and clean. Our room faced the river/bridge and it was a bit noisy as cars went over the bridge, but we got used to it.
Cider Bottle caps on the floor of our room, pubic hair on our toilet and hair on the inside of our shower. This is what we found as we walked into our room...We wiped it down ourselves...We checked out the sheet on the bed and those seemed to be about the only things that were clean. Bed was great...Walked around the room in our flip-flops. All of these things are not something you except to do when you ae paying $100 + per night...
Over all a good place to stay, close to all amenities.Room was clean,Beds comfortable would stay there again.Close to the river with a nice walk along the side of it. Food in the restaurant was good and the service excellant Front desk staff knowledgable and happy to help.
Invited cout to their Invited out to their buffet last week. it was roasted Loin of pork.5 star.lots of salads and dessert.Planning on going back this week for their Roast beef.Made Reservations and everything was first class.I inquired about the cost and 3 seniors dined for under $40.
I haven't been to Any other courtenay hotels but I found this experience sub-par. The Pillows must have not been changed as they smelled like different things. That was disappointing it might give some indication of cleanliness which at first impression seemed good. The building itself and interior seems like it's straight out of the 60's
There are good things about the Westerly - location, staff, restaurants etc but be careful of the room you choose. 508 and all the even numbered rooms in the new wing face on to an ugly concrete wall. The odd numbered rooms have a much better view. 508 is the wheelchair room and while it would be great if you were actually in a wheelchair I kept tripping when I went into the bathroom because of the sloped floor. And the height of the shower worked for me because I am 5 feet 5 inches but if you were taller it would be awkward. The towels are great though! Good working area and good wifi.
Staff are helpful and competent, but much of the hotel remains seventies-ish. The photo on here is of the new building, the rest of the hotel is much more dated. The hotel seems to attract smokers, so you walk through clouds of smoke at every entrance. The ski and base crowds seem to party a lot, so sometimes a bit noisy. All things said, a 3 star.
We've been staying here for over ten years and have always had a positive experience. Best Western is consistent with their quality and cleanliness of rooms, outstanding and courteous staff, great food selection and amenities. Best Western is always our preference.
Hi Again: I would like to review the Best Western Westerley Hotel in Courtenay, BC. My wife and I and our two home stay students stayed here for one night with our dogs in a pet friendly room. I must say we enjoyed the Hotel immensely, and the staff were very hospitable and courteous. The rooms were very nice as we rented two of them. This was a brief stopover on our way to Mt Washington Ski Resort. One thing we really liked was each member of our party got a seven dollar voucher in the Restaurant which allowed us to have dinner on our way home even though we had already checked out. We really enjoyed our stay here and will be definitely coming back again. Our dogs enjoyed it too. Thank You.
Last minute booking and pleasantly surprised. Stayed in very old rooms but clean! So much cleaner than a motel up the street! Facing the river the rooms are rediculously loud so I would advise finding a room that doesnt face the river traffic. Staff very accomedating for early check in.
Great staff, amenities, restaurants and bars. We enjoyed outselves at our stay. Thanks for the great service. Food was great, nice having a liquor store on site aswell, that was nice. Rooms were clean and very roomy.
I stayed at this hotel for two weeks while teaching a course in Comox. The rooms were modern and very well kept, and at the end of each day I came back to a thoroughly cleaned and made up room. During my stay, I had a chance to meet with the cleaning staff member, who took care of my room, and had a chance to thank her personally for taking such good care of my room. An honorable mention to the front desk, and especially Alex, who were always friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, and always willing to try and make my stay as pleasant as possible. I am a Forest Technician from central Ontario, and this is the first time I have traveled to this area. With the help from the front desk staff, I was able to see many of the natural attractions this area had to offer. By far, this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, and I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to the area. This hotel is located on the river leading to the Courtenay Estuary. There is a paved walking path the length of the town, along the river, leading out to the estuary where you can see the tides coming and going.
I stayed at the Westerly Hotel for one night whilst in the area visiting family. Having grown up in the area and since moved away many years ago, I've always known of the property through the years and I was surprised to see that it had become a Best Western property with what appeared to be renovations and and addition to the property built on site. The exterior is appealing and fresh looking in comparison to what I remembered which gave the appearance of a promising new property; however, upon entering the physical hotel it appeared as though very little had changed over the years apart from some paint/wallpaper. Check in was quick and easy and thankfully my BW Rewards status was recognized and an upgrade was offered. A voucher card for $7 was also given at check in which could be used at any of the on site food & beverage venues which i thought was an odd number (why not $10 or $5) which was used the following morning for breakfast. The room was on the 4th floor at the back of the building and although it was clean and reasonably well appointed it was very tired looking and not in line with the appearance of the newly renovated addition. The room was a decent size with a medium sized refrigerator and small microwave. The odd thing was the fact the coffee maker was inside the bathroom which seemed completely impractical as it should have been in the main room, and could have realistically replaced the microwave as that appliance seemed somewhat out of place and generally useless. The property offers free WiFi which was reasonably quick and reliable, as well as free parking either above ground or below in an open parking area. Given the lack of choice in the area, BW can effectively do what they want and still have relatively high occupancy; however, this property is definitely in need of a modernization as presently it looks like the front of the property doesn't match the rest which is the definition of 'window dressing' to say the least.
I don't know how sites have this hotel as 4 star. As soon as you walk in the front door you are hit with an old smell. Room was OK and clean. Luke warm water for bath. Great comfy bed. The biggest issue was party people above, laughing , jumping , singing. Called front desk at 4 am and they said they would check it out. Could not see anything was done as it continued. Noise in the hall, opened the door to see a girl getting ice from machine at 5 am . She turned and ran down the hall. The ice machine is very loud. Tired of all this and just packed up and left a 6 am. Would have rated 1 star but had to give 2 just to say the room was clean. I bid for a 3 star on priceline and was " upgraded" to this 4 star. The Kingfisher Resort is listed as 3 star. The old House Hotel a 2 star. What an unbelievable injustice of star ratings. This hotel comes no where the quality of the Kingfisher or Old House. I can't see how this hotel can be judged better than those two. In a previous response from Management says they have no control over Priceline star rating. I would think management should care to try to change it so they do not keep getting negative reviews. You should care about being rated too high and not being able to meet customers expectations of a 4 star rating. The rating is definately out of wack for this party hotel. Please spend some time and get your rating changed. Stay here if you don't care about peace and quiet. This is a 2 Star at best and by the way, we did not get a cheap deal. Paid a price that should have justified the front desk staff to do something about party people.
The staff are all very friendly and willing to go the extra mile. I have been regularly staying in this hotel over the past 2 years and every stay is a wonderful. Room is alway clean and beds are comfortable. Great sleep every night
Would stay again. Good breakfast coupons, takes $7 dollars off any purchase. Good internet connection. Comfortable bed. Clean and spacious room. Fast check-in and check-out. Thank you for the upgrade. It was a very nice stay!!!
I'm a pilot with a local airline and I stay at the Best Western in Courtenay about once a week. It's practically my second home. This is by far the the best hotel I stay at for work. The service is amazing. Tyler at the front desk is always helpful and makes me feel at home. Try the canoe burger on trivia night at the flying canoe. Cadance is our server nearly every night. She's the best. Awesome atmosphere, cool west coast vibe, good food and great beer. I highly recommend this hotel.
Do you ever feel when you walk into a hotel that although at first glance it might be ok , in reality you might get cooties? I call that the "cootie factor" and this place has it. It was obviously built in the late ' 70s by the still present globe light fixtures, ancient elevator, painted wooden doors, popcorn ceilings etc. The halls have never been renovated just painted again and again and it shows. The smell is also a dead give away. The exterior is quirky, awkward , difficult to get around and just plain dark, The ramp to the lower parking is terrible and as other reviewers said there is no secure parking and I did NOT feel safe parking and going into the back of the hotel at night alone. The lobby was somewhat "updated" but check in was slow as phone calls take priority over real live guests. Wifi was ok but slow and I could not get on as the wifi code the gave was too long to fit into the code box on the log in page. I was at the back of the hotel which they seem to think is premium but the noise from the traffic on the metal bridge goes 24 hours and sounds rather ghostly. There was also a pump going outside and yahoos outside yelling. The guy in the next room kept blowing his noise and honking- his wife turned the tv up to mask it- oooohhh my..... The hotel layout is weird and convoluted. The restaurant and pub were empty. The carpets were from the '90s. To be fair the room was better than the common areas I enjoyed the lamps- my aunt had those back in '84 and the furniture was from the same era. But, the room was clean enough. Cheap toiletries. There was a flat screen tv bust most channels other than the basics were not available. The bed was comfortable One thing when reading past reviews is the manger's inability to see what people are saying. One person said the food was ok and he replied he was "glad it was to their liking" what? Or when they complained about a filthy balcony they were to next time report it and it will be cleaned. It SHOULD have already been cleaned. You should have to waste your time in a hotel reporting things and waiting for correction. I do not understand the people who seem to like this place. I for one am not a fan.
Whether you are staying at the hotel or another, or living in the Comox Valley: I definitely recommend trying the dinner buffet. It's a great value, and the food and service are really good. We especially loved the mussels.
We went to the central Vancouver Island for a week long retreat and the Westerly was our base. We staid in the new mountain side wing and it was a worthwhile upgrade. Newer, quiet and well appointed, definitely a Plus. The meal vouchers more than made up for the lack of a free breakfast... you could spend them any time in any of the three eating areas. Staff was good and great in the dining room and pub. We would definitely stay here again.
Rooms are very large, more pillows than needed. Our room was very quiet. Rain against the windows didn't affect sleep.Terrific service in the dining room for all our meals, as we ate all our meals there except once. Had a fridge for evening snacks. Excellent service by all members of staff.
Disappointing! I booked this hotel for a one night stay through Priceline's "Express Deal" as a 4-star hotel. I have been to Courtenay many times and I was only aware of 1 hotel in town that would come close to a 4-star score....... I was not expecting this hotel to be revealed as the secret "4-star" facility. This hotel is 2.5-star from my experiemce. Staff is awesome and they're being put in a difficult situation with this ridiculous rating. Good job staff!!
A huge shout out and thank you to Michelle, who managed to accommodate 19 students and 2 chaperones, who were unexpectedly stranded in Comox when their flight was cancelled at the last minute and on a long weekend too. Great service and a great stay.
The main hotel is a little "dated". Fitness Room/Pool is buried in an odd place and tricky to find. That said, I had a great experience here overall. Staff was friendly, attentive, and went "above and beyond" multiple times. Hotel Restaurant was only so-so for food but the onsite pub has great food, including hand-thrown pizza baked in a wood-fired oven.
We were very pleased with the room ,it was very clean and smelled nice. The bed was very comfortable. The Hotel is located near Vancouver without all the city noises and traffic. The staff were all pleasant and helpful.Breakfast was very good,
The front desk was eager to get us the best rate and room for our money. My wife left her special pillow in the room when we left and the hotel had neatly packaged and tagged it for her to go back and pick it up.
Spent 4 nights here for a conference, place looks it's age. What I don't like is hearing neighbours, especially foosteps that go on forever above you. Pool is not huge but ok. Room was ok but parking was hard to find.
For the 4th time we have stayed here & the first time I booked through Expedia, I have found out that by booking through Expedia this hotel does not honour their rewards program, offer their food discount voucher & would have discounted the Expedia rate if we had booked through the hotel directly, a $50.00 lesson learned!
location decent, pub decent. front desk and staff very nice. Its not a bad property. But the wifi is overwhelmingly horrible. Am here for the MISA conference & cannot maintain a connection. As i tried to write the review it dropped several times and time of day doesnt matter. Am in a room in the 230 block & its horrible. Dial up is actually better. Until the wifi gets resolved its not a good choice for bus travel
Pool was great ammenities in the room poor, great location. The restauant was overpriced. If your only going to be in a central location near stores, this place would be great. The staff was very nice and the lobby /bar was in the building.
Great place to stay. We were upgraded to the newer building and the rooms are clean fresh and modern. Couldn't hear the traffic either. Staff were very competent and let us check in early too. Would def stay there again
So the story here is they have a new building out front that they show in there pictures. But the majority of there rooms are in the back in the older building. If you want a room like the pictures then your looking at the more expensive room type The new building is great the old one not so nice. So keep that in mind. Also for whatever reason they choose to do a breakdown of what you charge to your room. Line by line. So there's no way to charge liquor without your company seeing it. This is kinda dumb as most other hotels that just show a room charge of $43.56 (shark club at sandman as an example) So if you have a LOA and want to have some beers with dinner this hotel is a poor choice.
A decent hotel in a good location. Our room was clean and quiet. Limited local information for dining and staff a little aloof. Wifi was fast though so we were able to get the lay of the land pretty quickly. We will stay here again as they allowed us to have our 2 dogs with us in our room.
I always expect a nice hotel when I book a Best Western and this one is no exception. We stayed in the new wing, very clean and modern. Beds are very comfy! There is a pub in the hotel which is across the way from the new wing, handy! If you are looking for a nice clean and comfortable place to stay, this is it. Also, would like to compliment Thomas at reception, very professional and helpful, thanks!
This Best Western is located beside the river walk along the Puntledge River in downtown Courtenay. The hotel has a pool and fitness facilities, but we preferred joining townspeople in walking and biking the river walk. We only had to cross the hotel's parking lot to reach it. Our room was located in the older part of the hotel--convenient for reaching the lobby, dining room and pub, but probably not as well soundproofed as newer sections. On our second night it sounded as if some hiker with heavy boots kept tromping around the room above. The hotel staff at the registration desk was friendly and helpful as was the bartender/waitress at the hotel's Flying Canoe West Coast Pub.
Pleasant one night stay at this popular hotel. Good sized room, good bedding and with all the bits and pieces needed for a good overnight stay. Kudos for an excellent breakfast buffet included in the price and with top notch wait staff as a real bonus. Only complaint was the worlds lowest toilet. I don't know where they found these things it sure would be nice if they invested in something about 12 inches taller.
I stay once a year at this hotel and have always had a great stay. The front desk staff is accommodating, you have a pub a billiards room, restaurants, work out room and a pool all under one roof. It's central location to shopping and restaurants is very convenient.
Pool and fitness room were closed for maintenance. Ice machine was broken. No Airport transportation provided, taxi may, or may no,t be available for early morning flights. Breakfast is not available for early morning flights; although a coffee pot is available in the lobby.
we had a terrific stay at the westerly in courtenay, the staff and location were terrific, there were many great amenities, and the location is close to great food, beverages, and outdoor adventures. we will for sure stay again when we are in the comox valley!
Excellent location central. Staff very helpful, brew pub adjoining hotel. Would definitely stay here again. The front desk person recommended a few restaurants, two which we tried and they were exactly as he described. Try the Black Finn Restaurant overlooking the harbor in Comox which is 10 minutes away from the hotel.
We found the staff at this facility to be committed and friendly with the exception of perhaps a chambermaid who forgot to clean our room on day 3 of a 4 day stay. The room we were in was a little tight because of the king sized bed. It lacked adequate storage space outside of the closet. The furniture and appliances were modern and in good shape, but the pillows seemed in need of replacement. The view from our room on the second floor of the rear annex was quiet and had a view of the parking lot. Relatives had other rooms at the back of this building which overlooked the river to the east and were a little noisy at times due to traffic on a nearby bridge. As has been stated elsewhere the common areas of this hotel are getting a bit tired, but they are clean. Food vouchers were issued on check in which we could have used at any of the restaurants in the facility....we used them only for the buffet breakfast which was varied and good (especially on Sunday). The senior waitress in this eatery was really friendly and genuine. The front desk staff attended to all of our concerns and went out of their way to attend to the special needs of our four room group.
Stayed here on August/2016 Long weekend .. The check in was smooth as well checking out .. Courteous staff and very accommodating when i needed information .. Hotel has a restaurant, with a discount coupon for staying there .. there is a bar, lounge , a liquor/beeer store next door, a bar and restaurant also next door .. great location for starting ones vacation .. I plan to stay again ..
Stayed here two nights and have no complaints. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. Lots of parking, Good soundproofing, we stayed in a room near an elevator and yet couldn't hear much noise from the hallway. We had the breakfast buffet, which was a reasonable price. There was a good selection of food including make-your-own waffles. All the hot food was fresh and tender; no leather bacon, no rubber sausages and no mealy scrambled eggs. With a brewpub on premises and a restaurant across the parking lot, this place has all you need for your evening entertainment. We'll be back!
Thank goodness the fellow who checked us in suggested a local restaurant within walking distance for an outstanding meal.. and a candle! We wondered if a pet had been in our room. Since pets could stay anywhere in the hotel.
The room was really clean and comfortable. I especially liked the TV remote being in a 'sanitized' bag. Being a germaphobe, I definitely appreciated that extra touch. The bathroom amenities could have been nicer but bathroom large and clean. An outside patio/restaurant would have been great. Well, there is one but it faces the parking lot.
The room decor was very dated, but inside the room was clean enough. Smelled old. the extremely small balcony was very very dirty. There were bugs and spider webs all over the place. It had not been kept up at all. Could not even stand on the balcony as spiders were crawling beside above and on the chairs, etc. Very disappointed. Breakfast buffet was OK but tasted like the bacon had been deep fried in week old oil. The only thing that was good here was their lounge had very friendly service.
We recently stayed at this Best Western for 1 night. The staff were very attentive upon check-in and followed up quickly after we were in our room. We were offered an upgrade to a "river view" room without an increase of our prebooked room rate. The river view rooms are nice and are at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately, they face the main highway, and steel decked bridge, leading in & out of town. Vehicles travelling over the steel bridge are noisy and go on 24/7. The whole hotel could use a bit of a refresh/update as it seems a bit dark & older. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the breakfast and the service offered, something you don't normally see with breakfasts. One thing we found a little annoying was the hotel charged us an extra $50 on our credit card. Upon contacting Best Western we were advised this was a "deposit" and it would be refunded once processed by Best Western and our credit card company. A little forwarning of this would have been nice!
My family and I recently stayed at this hotel for one night while transiting to our vacation destination. I would not stay here again and would recommend the nearby Holiday Inn Express instead. The Best Western is shabby and run down with a cigarette smoke odour. The staff at check-in were polite but not very helpful. It was difficult to find our room given the strange layout of the hotel and dark access. The room itself was fine and standard but we were in the newest part of the hotel, situated over a pub and across from a bar and beer and wine store so this made for a noisy stay. Parking was difficult especially since we were towing a boat and access to the hotel was extremely awkward. The parking for oversized vehicles was in a dark corner of a back parking lot adjacent to a wooded area and the highway. Not secure and several "shady" characters roaming about. We got absolutely no sleep. We decided to stick around for the buffet breakfast which was a big mistake. My "fruit salad" was stale and the other food options were subpar. We checked out early and will never go back!
We stayed at this BW for one night of a BC Ferries circle route trip to Prince Rupert and on to Whistler. It was a comfortable experience, conveniently located, with restaurants and pub close to hand. No complaints. Nice room. Great staff.
very convenient, and pleasant. restaurant buffets were very reasonable, The staff were exceptional, We didn't use the pool, but it did look very inviting, next time we will find time. This hotel was centrally located.
Stayed at a few differant hotels on our 2 week trip. Had been at your hotel before and remembered how nice it was. After being dissapointed at a few others on our trip we went back to the best western. Will only be staying at Best Westerns from now on! Great service, clean rooms and on budget compared to the rest we have stayed at. Thanks for the great service and hospitality! Jim Russell
The Westerly Hotel is a solid and well appointed hotel. Here's where it stands out: 1. The hotel is located right next to the Courtenay Riverway Heritage Walk. It's a great and relaxing way to unwind after a long drive. If you stay here, take full advantage of it! 2. It's the little things that make the difference, and the owners of The Westerley understand that. Shortly after I checked in and went to my room, the front desk called to let me know me that if I had forgotten any toiletries, they could help. As it turned out, I had, so the offer was most appreciated! Overall, a very good experience.
The restaurant and pub were well run by staff. The floor creaked at night in adjacent rooms making it difficult to sleep. Difficult to negotiate the parking area. Need more signs for elevator and stairs
In the past a great place to stay, but a number of problems with disinterested, uninformative and unfriendly service this time at the front desk. Seemed to have no time of day for us. Generally, the hotel offers some good qualities and is the reason we stayed here again. Currently the price is high for what is received; for example, discounts for breakfast and other perks no longer apply. Too bad, but may look elsewhere on future visits to Courtenay.
We stopped here first while looking for a place to stay overnight before taking the early morning ferry. The property looks lovely but many of the rooms face out over the parking lot and bar next door. While this might be ideal for some (just walk over for a drink) it seemed to be a very busy bar with a good crowd outside. We weren't comfortable with parking a new vehicle in the lot and the possible noise in the early hours of the morning. I have no idea if you can hear anything in the rooms themselves but we ended up in the Holiday Inn instead. Possibly something to consider if you're going to stay here - especially over a weekend.
Pleasant friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms and super comfy beds. Great breakfast buffet in the mornings and everything is priced for affordable family fun. Pool, hot tub, cedar sauna and work out room. The kids were in the pool if we weren't at one of the nearby beaches! Had a great time and stayed 4 nights...will be back again!
This is not my #1 choice because noise-the roadway over the bridge-the parking so tight to get into the hotel and it is always crowded-price and availability but I was pleasantly surprised. The Festival was on and my first two choices raised their rates much too high for me so I went a looking. I found the Westerly Hotel. They gave me a good rate and $7.00 off each of our breakfast-a very pleasant surprise.
During the period, June 25 through June 27 we stayed at the BW Westerly Hotel in Courtenay. We cannot say enough good about this establishment. Due to a last minute mix-up regarding another hotel's bookings we were forced to make a hasty, unplanned last minute change to the Westerly. This presented a significant problem for the staff at the Westerly but the desk person under the guidance of Tom-the manager went overboard to facilitate us. Despite our arrival at a busy check-in time he arranged an outstanding room which was far beyond our expectations and at a reasonable price in our estimation. The room was very clean, well appointed and quiet with an efficient AC system and a small private balcony. The breakfast was outstanding at a nominal cost after a substantial discount. We would certainly recommend this hotel and would stay there again without hesitation. The staff went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. Bernadette and Tom. ,
We stayed in room 104 and they gave us 14.00 worth of food vouchers- so we used those for a wonderful tasty breakfast- we had a balcony with chairs and a table. Beds were very very comfy. Full shower - very clean-quite and comfy, Thriftys is across the street and a drug store next door. Full bar and pool tables, pools, hot tubs etc
Very comfortable and well located near downtown Courtenay (which is not very big) and right beside the river estuary...lovely view from our window. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable beds...a lovely restful night
I don't know why we don't stay in more BWs. This chain of hotels has been consistent with us and we love their service. The Westerly surpassed all expectations. We were greeted with friendliness and efficiency by Michelle at check in. She answered all our questions with ease and accommodated all of our requests without batting an eye. We stayed in a room in the newer wing...the Mountainside rooms. Nice large 2 queen room with balcony, fridge, microwave, stainless steel carafe coffee maker and walk in shower big enough for the whole family (okay, a little exaggeration here). What a comfy sleep and quiet rooms! We left the balcony door open for fresh air during the night..there was the odd traffic noise with motorcycles out for the summer (grr...put that muffler back on) and conversation noise from neighbouring balconies. But we are not light sleepers so we managed 2 good nights' sleep (second night with the air conditioning on instead). Kudos to the attention to detail from the housekeeping staff and thank you for your cute notes! We received restaurant vouchers which we used for breakfast. Nice buffet breakfasts (did not stay for Sunday brunch as we were gone by 8am) and coffee was strong enough. The pool was adequate for playing around in and relaxing. Conveniently located liquor store on site as well. Wonderfully managed hotel. It's the attention to details that sold us on going back to stay again!
We are staying in the hotel till 17 July with two small dogs and thought it would be stressful - so far everything is going well and I am loving it. The staff is friendly and helpful. We are in the older section... The rooms are clean and I would recommend westerly to anyone.
This hotel has been around for quite some time and it has a newer section, which is a separate building, which is modern and very nice. Unfortunately there is a central parking courtyard which contains a pub and if noise is a concern to you, you do not want a room that faces the courtyard or pub. Noise continued to 2 am and the hotel does not have anyone designated as security staff at night. The front desk staff were terrific, but when we tried to speak with the manager about a couple of concerns, she was unavailable for 2 days. She never did respond to our request to speak with her. Ultimately, the front desk clerks were able to change our room on our second night which was a huge improvement.
Front desk was friendly and efficient, room was well-appointed, small but ok gym; no complaints about hotel stay. However, the restaurant was understaffed - when I asked how to order items on the breakfast menu other than the buffet, I was told it was "just the buffet". For clarification, the hostess expressed, "well, I'm really busy" and "there's only one guy in the kitchen". I was then told I could order something but it might take a while - how long? "I don't know." I gave up and chose the buffet and found it mediocre. I sympathize if they were short-staffed but it was handled so clumsily I found it off-putting. A simple apology and concise explanation would have sufficed.
Check in was quick & friendly, room was pleasant, bed comfortable. I found the bathroom seemed to have a very yellow hue due to the lighting which makes a bit more challenging to put make-up on. I asked at the desk if they had a magnifying mirror there b/c I had forgotten my travel one ... They said no & told me where the drug store was to get one, got to room & found there was one in the bathroom attached to the wall .... Think they should know that - I didn't need to buy one. Checkout was quick & friendly as well ... There was also a $7 voucher for any of the 3 eateries on the premises
This is our preferred hotel to stay at when in Courtenay because of its quality and good value. The staff are especially good and we always feel happy to get there after a long day's drive. The buffet dinner and breakfast are great, and the staff always ensure that we have a great dining experience. The food is always hot and includes a wonderful variety of tasty items. Kudos also to the Chef!
I have used this Best Western for several years. The hotel is always inviting and the staff is friendly. I stayed in the newer building on sight for the first time. I found it to be nicely decorated and very comfortable. I highly reccommend this hotel if on the area.
This is a nice hotel with fitness room and swimming pool. I enjoyed staying there. Of course, it is not free from small problems that is traditional for the small hotels like not so good water drainage in bathtub and sink. However, my room had a balcony to spend an evening hours with viewing trees along the river.
Best Western is a destination point for us. Always available rooms and willing to suite our needs. We only stay at Best Westerns throughout Canada and the US. Would recommend Best Western fo anyone for travel stays or for business, medical and always allow pets.
Hotel is walking distance to most of the tourist businesses and restaurants in downtown. Walking trail is just behind the hotel. The hotel is an older hotel, good services and staff were friendly. Good size room.
this hotel offers good value. they have pool tables, a pool and Jacuzzi and a pub with live music next to it. great stay. the room was great and clean. the location is good, close to all amenities downtown courtney
This is overall a very nice hotel to stay during our recent visit to the region. Very clean but dated in the section where we stayed. Other areas of the hotel seemed updated and clean. As we were in the Riverside section, the noise from the bridge was very annoying. Suggest if you are booking that you should request a room away from the bridge and closer to the front. Everyone was polite and very friendly. Everything you would expect from a Best Western!
Main lobby and restaurant are okay. Have had breakfast in the restaurant and had food in the lobby lounge and both were good. The rooms and hallways need updating. Weekend nights there is a lot of local traffic around the pub and beer & wine store. This is an average/3-star hotel. Central location.
Just wanted to stay what a nice time we had at your hotel. Your staff are Number 1 in my book. Very friendly and always willing to help and answer any questions guest might have. My grandson just loved the waffles for breakfast and big bed to himself.
Upon check-in we were greeted by a friendly receptionist. The first thing we noticed was the over abundance of kids running around unsupervised. Right away I knew this was not going to have a good outcome. Rightfully so, as the whole time we were there we could hear the kids yelling and running up and down the hallway. Several times we had to open the door to ask the children to behave. As the hotel was fully booked, we did not have the option to relocate to another room. Surely the hotel should take into consideration the fact that many guests do not travel with children and should consider segregating them in another part of the hotel. Fortunately we only stayed one night. A lesson was learned here. Now I will contact the hotel in advance and see if any large groups of children would be staying on the days I need to be there.
This hotel has great amenities -- cold beer & wine store, 2 pubs, one main restaurant, pool room & tapa bar and restaurant. Also in great location near main highways and downtown. Small pool on site, not the greatest. Wonderful large & spacious great room area off of check in lobby. Had huge stone fireplace in it and Good supply of comfortable lounge chairs and tables. Ample on site free parking. All you can eat breakfast buffet was decent, but not included with room rate as it is at Holiday Inn up the road. Front counter check in staff not overly friendly or accommodating. Check in procedure was painful as well. Only one staff member checking people in and it took forever. Female check in clerk snapped at me on Saturday morning when I politely asked if she could cut the binding tape on stack of Globe and Mails so I could take one. Very rudely told me that she was very busy and would get around to it later! Really? It literally takes about 5 seconds to apply scissors and cut! Bad customer service that left a very bad impression. Must note that staff in the pool room and tapa bar were friendly and accommodating. Beer and cocktails were very reasonably priced. The Sophia Loren Pizza was outstanding. The rooms were definitely on the small side and in desperate need of updating. Rooms and furniture very dated and beat up. Beds were as soft as waterbeds. This place caters to skiers and it is evident that the emphasis is on the food and beverage component rather than room and bed quality. Bathroom and shower was ancient. Wifi was free but spotty. If the rooms were updated along with new beds, I would rate this place 4 out of 5. As it stands can't give it more than 3 due to poor state of the rooms and beds. Not sure I would return unless I got a extraordinary room rate. Otherwise, I would stay at the Holiday Inn Express, which I have previously reviewed. Their rate is cheaper with breakfast included and far superior rooms and furnishings.
Handy off the main highway. From our room my wife, throughout the night, could hear traffic going over the metal clad bridge nearby. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, my wife ordered spaghetti and meat balls - the sauce was like cream of tomato soup. I ordered butter chicken and asked for it to be spicy, it arrived wasn't spicy at all - don't think the kitchen did anything to it. Asked for chutney, the restaurant didn't have any. The waiter was very good and tried to please - but unfortunately, the kitchen didn't. By the way, the hotel staff were also very pleasant.
With 2 $7.00 vouchers for breakfast we were charged an additional $11.10 for 2 serve-yourself waffles and 2 coffees. $25.00? Come on! The location of this hotel is right next to the 17th St. Bridge which has a metal grill-work panel in the middle of it which makes a huge noise every time a vehicle goes over it. The bigger the vehicle, the bigger the noise :-(
We had taken ferry into Port Hardy and had no hotel reservations for Comox. We stopped at the information bureau and the young gentleman waiting on us was exceptionally helpful in securing us a room at the BW as it was a busy weekend with the shellfish festival. Our room, with a balcony, was on the back of the hotel and quiet. The bed was comfy and a nice room. We ate supper at the hotel pub and the food was really good. We would definitely stay here again if ever we came to this beautiful area.
This is a good hotel for short business trips to the town. I've tried their new building this time and the room was great - everything inside looked brand new. It's worth noting that they paid attention even to small details - such as putting the TV remote in a disposable cover. The location is very convenient, just a tad off the major road, but this may be a downside as the room was a bit disturbed by the road noise when the traffic peaked up. The main building is quieter. Overall this hotel offers a good value for the price and I'd recommend it.
I live in Courtenay but because of my travel I find myself staying at the Best Western two or three times a year. I enjoy the comfort and the convenience of a liquor store, restaurants and bar being in the same building. My reason for the very good instead of the excellent is because if you have a room on the back side of the hotel you have to listen to the 17th street bridge traffic driving over the grate on the bridge every second. So you need to ask for a room on the inside and you will not hear this.
Room was good, neat and clean, location was in the center of city. Customer service was excellent, I interact with Hardev there he was very helpful and co-operative. You have excellent staff who are always ready to help the guests. Keep it up. Thanks
I visited Courtenay because I lived there nearly 40 years ago. It was interesting to see all the changes that have occurred during that time. From the air base to the city everything certainly is different. Some things never change. The squadron was practicing for their airshow demonstrations.
We spent 3 nights here during a recent convention in town. The hotel is older, but the lobby has been renovated, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and efficient and we enjoyed our stay. We had our dog along, and were grateful for the ground floor room with easy outside access, and outdoor area on the property suitable for our pet. We liked the onsite pub, and the restaurant for breakfast. There is also a brewery on premise, and a liquor store. The central location in town made it easy for us to get around, and there is plenty of onsite, free parking.
I go swimming here with the grandkids once or twice a month and have had many friends stay here. Great staff, Clean place and good rates. Breakfast continental style and an easy walk to this our beautiful seaside hamlet. Don't miss the new little mall past the second roundabout on Oak street and then follow Oak to old Town.
This hotel is in a is a great location with other restaurants & walking trails nearby. Great staff willing to assist with all details to make your stay memorable. Great rooms with easy access from the parking lot.
Hello we stayed at the Best Western as a group of post secondary students, our rooms were spacious and clean with a small fridge and microwave to eat in, if we so choose. Based on the number of nights you stay you receive a 7.00 voucher per day towards the buffet breakfast, which is delicious and full breakfast. You end up paying 5.00 or you can use the voucher in two restaurants towards meals. The hotel is conveniently located and easy to find off of both highways that go through Courtney. Parking is amble and free. The pool is small but warm and the hot tub is refreshing after a long day of activities. Plus there is access to a laundry room if you have a week stay, as our group did. We recommend this hotel, the staff were friendly and very helpful.
I love this hotel I always stay here for business in the area. I like the courtyard/entrance upper rooms and the patios off the rooms. Love the beds and the linens. Good WiFi and a 7 7.00 voucher bonus makes me a happy camper.
The hotel staff are very friendly. Everything is right there no need to go out for anything,.Hot tub was great. Would stay again for sure. Rooms are a nice size. There is a restaurant, bar, liquor store and a pool table room.
Hotel was good value easy location and nice facilities, Would have liked to have seen breakfast included, would be prepared to pay a little more for this. Happy with the value Service in the Canoe bar and grill needs improving.
We stayed in the "Forbidden Room" 219. It was wonderful. Clean, Flatscreen TV, didn't have the feeling like you want to keep your shoes on for the sticky floor lol. Pub attached had great food - Nachos were amazing. BREAKFAST BUFFET -- just say NO. It was a $12 buffet with very nasty food and coffee. Had instant eggs and pre-cooked sausage. It had the make your own waffle machine that you see in the free complementary breakfast places. I couldn't believe they actually charged for it. When we asked the staff at the from where to go for good breakfast she gave us the suggestion - honesty would have been nice. And no view at all just a parking lot.
For tthose bound for Powell River, missing that last ferry from Comox at 7 p.m. can be crushing. Never mind: rather than sleeping in your car fending off the dog, toddle back to Courtenay and book into the Best Western. (Yes, my 150-pound wolf dog likes the place, especially the balcony off some rooms.) The pub is cozily warm with a fireplace, easy chairs and pool tables--you could hold a nice art opening in that space, or a book launch. (Or you could just fight with your laptop as I did.) If you had the foresight to bring swimwear, you can take advantage of the pool and/or hot-tub (dogs probably not welcome in the water). Then there's bed, blessed bed.... I forgot to mention the existence of a desk in the room, always more important to a writer than is a fridge (also supplied, actually). Early-ferry users would probably appreciate a Keurig coffee machine in the room as one can't wait for brekkies if one is to catch the blankety-blank ferry and not all of us tolerate the standard drip-coffee fare. Ask for a room where the bridge noise is not obvious (some blithering civil-government idiot decided on a bridge's road surface that makes every vehicle sound like an incoming missile).
Just as the title says - this hotel has very good value ,comfortable and clean and friendly and the lounge is great and have pool tables which is a nice change up. The pool and sauna are very nice and well kept. The quirky design in the buildings is odd but does not diminish the overall quality.
Clean, comfortable, spacious and lots to do for the whole family. Buffet was excellent too. Will definitely stay there again in the future and recommend this hotel to friends and family. The games room and pool was a hit for the kids.... zero complaints
Stayed in the newer part of the hotel for work and my wife drove up to spend some quality time. There is a pub attached that has good specials. The pool is in the basement but is not bad. I am happy with the room.
We travel regularly and often stay at this hotel. The rooms (upgraded) are very comfortable in every way. The Hotel offers good food (we often eat in the lounge). There is a decent, clean indoor pool and hot tub. The staff are always helpful and friendly. I like the covered parking. Really no issues and it's good value.
For the price, decent rooms. Small but again decent indoor pool (deep enough for kids to enjoy cannon balls) and indoor hot tub. Decent buffet breakfast: no veggies but all the expected rest. There's a games room with Wii and ping pong but we didn't have time to try it.
There are some good things about this hotel. First, like most BW's, it's pet friendly. Second, there's a nice little nano brewery with a tasting room attached (Forbidden Brewing). Third, The staff seem nice. Fourth, they have express checkout. On the minus side, the back part where we stayed is very dingy, with slightly nauseating industrial yellow walls, a musty smell, and views of nothing. It's really old and likely seems older than it is. Maybe if you stayed in one of the newer sections you would have a good experience, but I'm guessing you won't be if you have a pet. In my view the back section should be closed. Oh and the heater was right beside the bed at ear level and woke us up every time it came on. The attached restaurant is a pub and as such doesn't allow minors. So no I wouldn't recommend this place, unless you are in the newer section.
Stayed here one night and pretty well everything was perfect. Front staff are friendly and efficient and the room was clean. I didn't give it an excellent rating because the parking is inconvenient being it is under the hotel and then extends to the outside out the back at the lower level. It can be a bit of a hike to get to your room depending on where you are finally parked. There is no fridge or microwave in the room. The hotel seems quiet at night but otherwise quite noisy with heavy doors slamming constantly.
My husband and I drove from the Kootenays to get some Mt Washington powder! The booking was a little slow as I think they were understaffed and the girl had to put me on hold and call me back, but she was very good otherwise, not her fault. The amazing deal we got for a Queen room, 2 ski passes, breakfast for two and $7.00 vouchers each, which we used our second night after a long day of snowboarding on room service for dessert.. Mmmm! The rooms were decent, the hotel was a hotel nothing more nothing less, the hot tub and pool were a little weird in the basement but did the trick! We would return just because we paid next to nothing for the ski package deal! Thanks to Emily at the front desk for our deal!
Hotel was clean and presentable. No breakfast room, instead guests are given a -$7.00 voucher that can be used at one of the restaurants, for enhanced internet or a Roku2. We were in a first floor room, when the room above ours was occupied it was noisy, we could hear every move the people above made, including their young children running across the floor. Hotel needs to sound proof the floors!
I have stayed in this hotel several times before but it's been a few years since I've been back and things have changed for the worse. Restaurants and bars are not open at the hours listed in the hotel's in-room brochure. Staff was surly, check-in was difficult. Restaurant is quite expensive. Too bad, this used to be a nice hotel.
An average older property with the Bestwestern logo. It could use a reno, but it was clean, bed was comfortable and it served the purpose of what we needed for the night, a place to sleep! We loved the shower pressure!
We came to Courtenay for a hockey tournament and stayed at the best western. The staff were so helpful and we enjoyed all of the amenities. The pool room was great for the adults and the kids and it was delightful to have live music in the bar on saturday afternoon.. I highly recommend this hotel .
our room was just what we needed, the com breakfast was one of the best have had at BW around. and we had our dog and liked it too. lots of trails to take him on and not far from downtown. easy walk to the shops, and a liquor store onsite as well as a bar. your choice of entertainment..
Check in was great - Greeted by Tyler who checked me in quickly and had me on my way with out any issues. Ordered room service and it was at my door in less then 20 minutes hot and yummy. Had a great sleep and used express check out at departure so I didn't have to stop at the desk on my way out.
This hotel and convention center is in Courtenay BC located in the beautiful Comox Valley. Close to just about anything you would want. From Skiing in the morning to Golfing in the afternoon. They have a fine restaurant and separate Lounge and Pub. I have been here as well during certain CONVENTIONS and found the service and location excellent. The Dining is excellent in their Restaurant as well as the service. Sundays are always the Sunday Brunch served Buffet Style with no shortage of food choices. I found their rooms very comfortable and my stay enjoyable. If you happen to want more quiet or a different room for some reason just notify their Staff and I'm sure they would be HAPPY to ACCOMMODATE you. After all they are there to ensure YOUR STAY at this establishment will always be MEMORABLE!!
This is still the only hotel we stay at when we're in Courtenay. It consistently provides good service, comfort, and value. The staff are also very knowledgeable of what's in the Comox Valley, and how to get to those places.
We looked at the Westerly lobby and it was very stylish. We booked a room. It turned out to have a rather musty smell. It was comfortable enough but we were kept awake by the inebriated patrons of the billiard lounge once the bar closed.
Service was excellent. Apart from the main building, the building where my room was located was rather dated and needed upgrading. The food in the restaurant and lounge were tasty and inexpensive given the quality of the food.
room was decent size. staff generally pleasant. games room is good idea. a bit rundown, though (air hockey broken, foosball knobs loose, etc.) pool was fine, but pool guy is really dirty, performing tests while people using pool! waffle machine was fun, not too bad a spread for breakfast. waitresses were friendly and competent. lounge is hangout for locals, which is not the greatest greeting upon arrival late night.
Nothing too fancy but the rooms were clean, contemporary and in good shape. The facility is kinda unique in that the rooms are spread out between three different buildings. We had a dog and stayed on the second floor of the riverside building which judging by the traffic is where the pet friendly rooms are. We were content with our stay and would consider staying there again, just wish more of the on site restaurants were family friendly
We were quite satisfied staying at the Westerly. The check-in / check-out was quick & pleasant. The king sized bed was very comfortable although I felt the duvet was warm. We slept with the door open the 2nd night & it was much better. The room overlooked the back parking lot & walking trail along the river but was pleasant enough. WIFI was good, as was the shower water pressure. The breakfast buffet was okay. Not very hot but good. We were each given $7 vouchers for breakfast so it only cost us $10-12 (I can't remember). we didn't eat there the 2nd morning. There are a number of restaurants that you can walk to which is nice if you want to have a drink.
I have stayed at this particular Best West probably 50 times at least over the past 5 or 6 years, Always with great service, friendly people and great accommodations. I would suggest asking to stay in the Mountain Wing (building) I find it a newer nicer room.
Place was convenient, there was a pool. The gym is sub-par, and they're not great for vegan options, though the curry was killer. The check in is easy and efficient, and it's pretty much what you expect from a hotel. Missing a tea kettle (coffe-focused hotels drive me crazy), but they even have hot chocolate. I love that they have pool tables and darts. But they're understaffed in all of the restaurants, which effects the service and you feel bad because everyone is running like mad. The overpass can be noisy. And they charge for the "breakfast buffet" that is free in most hotels - standard hotel fare.
As a family of two young children, my husband and I had a positive experience at this hotel. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was one of the better ones we'd had in various hotels - a good variety! The only unfortunate thing was that the pool was occupied with 4 young travelers (early 20s?), who paid little attention to other guests- not the hotel's fault. Only 30 minutes drive from/to Mt. Washington! Also, it is near several family restaurant (whitespot, boston pizza...etc). We will certainly return to stay with this hotel next time we plan a trip to Mt. Washington.
We've stayed at a few different places in Courtenay just as a quick overnight stop, but thought we'd give a new-to-us place a try, since we'd be staying for three days and wanted more of a relaxing base. Check-in was great, and we were able to get a decent rate of $95 a night over three mid-week nights for a room in the older building overlooking the river. We viewed several rooms, and even though the rooms in the 'new building' might have been a bit nicer, we preferred the location overlooking the river. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner at the pub on two different nights and found it just fine. Breakfast at the restaurant was OK, just your normal BW breakfast restaurant. There was a wide variety of food for the breakfast buffet, everything from cold cereal to bacon and eggs. We would definitely stay here again.
My husband and son arrived to check into their pre-paid room and were told that they could not check in without a credit card deposit. We don't use credit cards as you can pay for everything now online by Visa Debit or Paypal. We frequently stay at a variety of hotels and have never had a problem leaving a deposit via a debit hold. Time to get with the times, Best Western. This event put a real damper on a rare father and son get-away. We will not go back.
The staff is very friendly. The room decor could use some up grading the room we pretty dark. My room was quoted at 110.00 by the time i paid the taxes and fees it was 143.00. Crazy.....They should be telling you the final price.
So ... First impressions are good. Nice lobby, plenty of parking. However being in the original hotel is not that great. The rooms are dated, although the bathrooms had very nice showers. The balcony is no selling point as its paint was peeling off the concrete floor and we looked over the other hotel wing. The family restaurant was dated and soulless so we ate at the bar lounge. However the menu option was confusing. All in all, just ok, did what we needed it to do but no more. Think we will try somewhere else when we need an overnight between ski days.
My wife and I came to Courtenay to visit family. We are in the area 2-3 times per year, and our regular stay wasn't going to work. There were a few glitches over the three nights, but we'd give it another try. The room was clean and most of the staff we interacted with were outstanding. That goes a long way. Those who note that the rooms at the back of the hotel over the river are noisy because of the metal bridge nearby are bang-on. If we come back we'll request a room away from that area. In addition, it's an old part of the building and the heater in the room was very noisy when working-caused the bed to vibrate at times! I think there is some infrastructure needing replacement in the hotel-I did see other signs (portable heaters in the hallways, etc). We were offered a room after the first night, but it would have just been down a few floors on the same side (still facing bridge, same type of heating unit) so we didn't bother. We also wanted some more pillows. We went down to request this on the second night, the staff at the counter said they'd be sent, and they never arrived. We managed to get them only for the last night. The breakfast was great. I don't know about the pricing, but some have written that there are coupons/breakfast included offers but these only happen if you don't book through a third-party site (expedia, hotels.com, etc.). If you want things included, apparently you need to book directly with Best Western. We went to the attached Pub on Friday night after arriving late, and had a great meal and watched some top-notch live music. 4 stars seem high to us, 3 too low given the issues we had with the room (but these may not be issues in other parts of the hotel). I'll call it 4 but it's really 3.5!
I love to stay here! the staff is friendly and efficient and always acknowledge the fact that I'm back, I get a nice room facing the parking lot rather than the street which I like. the rooms are very clean and have housecoats another like! includes a breakfast voucher value toward either continental breakfast or for a couple $ more upgrade to the hot buffet with many selections. there is a pool and fitness room, lounge and a separate restaurant attached to the man building. balconies for sitting out in evenings and close to just about everything. Thanks BW Westerly for another nice stay!
As I travel a great deal for business, I appreciate the comfort and cleanliness of this hotel. They has a great coupon plan for meals and is pet friendly. It is convenient to a variety of excellent restaurants on 5th Street and is across the street from Starbucks. We stay here every time we are in the area
I routinely stay at the Westerly whenever I'm in Courtenay - usually every 30-50 days. Great staff, great facilities, & a central location in town. Nicely appointed clean modern rooms with comfy beds! And all at a great price point that underscores the value you get. No need to look around.
Worth the money and a good location for the ski slopes of Mount Washington, Pool and hot tub available as well as underground parking facilities (for electric cars also). In house pool room and darts are available in the bar with a good selection of local craft beers
This hotel is dated. The wing I was in had a strong odour as well as a strong odour of air freshener. The room was small and had no fridge or microwave. The heating unit was loud and sucked the smoke in from the surrounding balconies. The bed didn't seem like a queen but more like a double and was not the most comfortable. I'm unsure why I was put in the old wing as there is a new wing and it did not look full. Good luck finding the lobby of this hotel, there are no signs and it's not obvious. I won't be back.
for an older hotel the rooms were clean and decor was current the staff was helpful when needed. Reasonably good value for the dollar spent. Good location to travel from either on foot or by car. Easy walk to down town.
The annual Christmas day buffets have become a tradition for my wife and I. In the past we have had the regular buffet but this year we chose the breakfast (6:30 am - 10:00 am). There is a touch of elegance including white tablecloths. Potted plants provide a slight tropical atmosphere. Table service is reliable. The food is varied, both hot and cold and one can make your own waffle.
Catered to our family ski trip. Liked the feature of having lift tickets. The food vouchers were a nice bonus. I understand the Restaurant is trying to build up customers but it does need to update the decor. The food selection on the menu was different, which we liked. Room was clean and we did not hear any noises from people in the hall or traffic.
Great quality for the location to Mount Washington. Have always stayed here and will always stay here. Two families stayed here together and the ability to have the door between rooms open was great. It is better than having the main door open removing privacy.
Same old same old... but in a good way. Same great service, same great rooms, same great food, same great affordable rate. This is the 'go to' hotel to stay when in Courtenay. I'm sure it will be the same next time as well.
I always stay here. I have no reason to look anywhere else. Very welcoming & friendly staff, reliable quality, comfort & cleanliness of rooms, all the on-site amenities I could ask for! Licensed billiards lounge, licensed bar & grill, liquor store with a wide assortment of craft beers! :)
Staff were pleasant and professional. It was nice to be greeted and not just "Checked In". The pub was very nice restaurant. the service was great. The lounge looked very good, but I only enjoyed the plush leather seating when it was closed. The restaurant was fine and quite bright with all the windows. The pool and exercise room were small but adequate.
Rooms against the river are very noisy from traffic crossing the bridge all night. Heating system is very noisy, makes it very difficult to sleep. Breakfast was only continental (which is fine); scrambled eggs were greasy and bacon was very undercooked (raw).
A very comfortable room in a friendly hotel. The restaurant and bar next to the hotel had good food at reasonable prices, portions were huge!. Only down side was our room was at the back of the hotel and you could hear the cars pass over the metal bridge.
Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was fairly clean which was nice. At check in the front desk staff were really pushing us to upgrade to a quieter room with a fridge and microwave. We did not upgrade. The lock would not work on the first room so back to the front desk to change rooms. Second room had no heat, thermostat was broken, the hotel repaired it the following day. Somebody pulled the fire alarm at 12:07AM on the Saturday. There are 2-3 bars/drinking establishments in the hotel that are open very late, I anticipate that this had something to do with the alarm being pulled.
I like Best Western because the beds are comfy and the room amenities are good. This time around I wasn't as satisfied with the food. The closet and bathroom seemed cramped in the room I had, though it was quiet and off the main hallway. Unfortunately some idiot pulled the fire alarm at midnight Saturday so that wasn't good. Not the hotel's fault.
This hotel is in a good location there is a nice choice of restaurants and lounges available in the hotel. A credit was issued to be used at the hotel restaurants and it was most appreciated. My room was fairly quiet and I felt that it was in a safe location for a woman or man travelling on their own.
Another great night and good food at the Westerly. This is my go-to hotel when in Courtenay. Great rates, great food, great staff, and if you can get the upgrade to the new section... great room. I still miss the Sushi guy though!
The restaurant dinner buffet was excellent. We now have dinner here, rather than one in town, because it is so good and convenient after a long day's travel. The staff are so friendly and very professional. The beds are the best of other hotels we've recently stayed at. This hotel has become our choice of places to stay.
very accommodating staff. Disappointing that pool and spa was not available. some compensation should have been offered as there was little to do in the neighbourhood. Flying canoe had best clam chowder ever tasted
Our stay was fine except fot the poor food service in the Flying Canoe and the pre-cooked foods were all cold at the breakfast buffet, unless just brought out. The cook at the Flying Canoe could use a few lessons on customer service and send out a few extra wings rather than look so cheap and unprofessional.
Good conference rate. Ask for a room without noise from nearby steel deck bridge which announces loudly every vehicle. Buffet food is regular fare, nothing fancy or varied. An older property. Did not use the spa or pool. Friendly staff.
This young lady Dannielle served us drinks on two seperate occasions. We only wanted one drink each per two days but she treated us as if we were regulars . She made me a special drink that I requested and did it perfectly. She "visited" with us but never missed a chance to serve and care for her other customers. We both noticed that and spoke on how well she did that. This comment is for her as seldom have we had such amazing service in a bar.
We stayed here last weekend. October 2015. The room was nice, a king bed corner room away from the noisy bridge. The housekeeper was very good...she is a new employee and did a great job! We often forget about those who take care of us. The hotel has a pool, pool tables (I think a pool hall is not needed as I have never seen more than 1 or 2 tables being used) The fireplace in the foyer is a nice place to have a drink but unfortunately the menu is very very limited and there was only one person around to serve. I have been here in the past and attended functions in the conference rooms upstairs. There was a bit of a long lag checking in...computer or operator problem. The breakfast brunch was good...nice selection. They were working on setting up the Sunday brunch, which actually looked more interesting than the breakfast...must try it if we come again. Basically it is a hotel, a good place to sleep and sorry but not anything else that I could say.
Our 3 time to the buffet and very disappointed. Almost all the food was gone and nothing was replenished even after asking. We must agree with another reviewer regarding the plastic table clothes, which are really silence clothes and very tacky in our opinion. It is unlikely we will return for the buffet
The Westerly has been around for a long time and is one of the few Full service hotels in the Valley. The rooms were clean and the service was good. The in house restaurant serves good meals at a fair price. The Breakfast Buffet is a good value and the food vouchers that come with the room make it a better value. Like I said it's okay, nothing was bad but nothing was great. I'm not sure why they turned the lounge into a pool hall and moved the lounge to the Lobby; I guess it works for them We were going to have supper in the Pub but the booths were uncomfortable and the prices were high. We would stay again if our regular B&B in the Valley is unavailable.
There were 3 adults and 1 child, so we booked a one bedroom, 2 queen bedded suite. It was extremely spacious and having the extra bathroom off the living room, was so handy when my daughter went to sleep first. We used room service for lunch, which was good value and delicious. The indoor pool and hot tub were great too.
The hotel is a bit older but very clean with friendly staff. My Mom and I shared a suite but wanted the beds in separate rooms so two nice young men came and did some furniture moving for us. The restaurants are good but I wouldn't recommend the Pub after 9pm as it gets rowdy with bad service. We received coupons too for the restaurants. Very good location too!
I stayed at this Best Western for 1 night on a road trip up to North Vancouver. It's located in a small shopping mall with a couple of brew pubs within the complex, one of which turns into a nightclub (but I did not see any disturbance from this). Room was clean, quiet, had a good rest. Pizza in the pub was excellent. Overall a good place to stay and rest for a night in this location.
The hotel is easy to find. Rooms are large and quiet with very comfortable beds with duvets. Lovely foyer with comfortable sofas and very inviting fireplace. Also has nice pool, workout room and well outfitted games room for teens, plus a bar with pool tables.
This hotel offers great value for the money. It is located in a great location with easy access to everything. The room was well appointed and a good size and the bed was very comfortable. We were very happy with the bathroom which was very modern with good water pressure. We only ate breakfast there ,and that was a buffet style with good choices. They also had a menu. The front desk staff were polite and helpful. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel.
