Great place to stay, was close to everything, including the beach. Friendly, helpful and informative staff, Very comfortable bed, good size room and good water pressure in the shower. Room was nice and clean.

Beautiful bush outlook with fairly quiet rooms that are pretty big if your on the back side. Road side rooms while double walled are traffic noise effected if your a light sleeper. Meals were good. Stayed here twice now. Last time the air con in the next room made a rumble through wall that was quite noisey when on. That was the only issue. Easy free parking and access. Has a gym which has most things like a running machine, elliptical and cables weight machine with a tower of dumbells up to 10kg. Tried restaurant and room delivery and both were fine. Too cold to try pool.

Stayed for 1night on business whilst in Newcastle. Rooms were well appointed, spacious, clean and relatively modern. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. About 7mins Drive out of Newcastle but well worth the drive in. Would highly recommend staying here!

If passing through and need a place to stay then this hotel is worth considering. Clean and large rooms. Well decorated. Staff friendly. 15 min drive to the beach or Newcastle. Restaurant menu looked good although I did not eat there so cannot comment on the food quality

Our 2 night stay at the Apollo was a pleasant experience, The room was clean and bed very comfortable. All room have a balcony which overlooks bush land. Staff very friendly and professional. Located a good walk to Charlestown square. The restaurant is very good. Would definitely stay there again.

Big room and very clean. Wonderful ventilation in the bathroom and every looked like it did on the website. Would stay there again easily. The recent renovations they have done and wonderful. Good value for money. Great deal booking directly through the hotel.

My stay at Best Western Plus Apollo International Hotel was short and for business purposes - but I wished I could have stayed longer ! The room was lovely, had its own private balcony which overlooked a woodland and the City of Newcastle (at night the lights of the city were just so pretty!). It was quiet and comfortable and very clean. The amenities were excellent, hot water, soft, large bath towels, even a hair dryer ! The room was just the right size, it even had a lovely couch (sofa bed) which was very comfortable. The staff at Reception were so welcoming and friendly, and very professional and helpful, they made the whole book in process just so smooth and stress free, and easy ! The staff are to be congratulated and thanked - they are the first impression - and they are amazing ! I enjoyed my stay so much that my husband and I are very keen to return again soon to Newcastle and we have already decided that the Best Western Plus Apollo International Hotel is definitely where we will stay :)

The best place to stay in Newcastle. Excellent spacious rooms with all modern conveniences. The staff are efficient and friendly and the food is excellent.Very handy to Charlestown shopping centre and only a few minutes from central Newcastle.

Stayed in an executive king room which was new and modern. Rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. The lady who checked us in was friendly, helpful and had excellent customer service skills. Breakfast was average but we dined in the restaurant for dinner which was outstanding. If looking for a mid range hotel close to Newcastle then this is value for money.

Nice hotel with good size rooms. The bed was comfortable. Good size bathroom with bath. Nice views from room 334. The room echoed a little as the walls are quite bare and doesn't feel cozy but it's a good stay. This hotel offers a great restaurant called Babbington's. The food is made with love and great taste. A little expensive for a best western but a place to celebrate or impress. Staff are all welcoming, happy and there to help with 24 hour reception.

The rooom was spacious for the 3 of us. Then when the make up lady and hairdressers arrived together with the 4th lady and 5 children anda helper there was still room to move. My only suggestion would be to offer a tray of mixed sandwiches and finger food for times like this. We rang room service and asked and were sent up some but it would have nice to have been told this was available. Thanks.

Clean - tidy - helpful - friendly would stay again - have stayed twice now in 2 weeks - close to beach and shops and sporting fields - staff were lovely - easy to get to - plenty of parking - 24 hour reception

A 2 night stay and most enjoyable! Very pleasant greeting and most helpful. The king suite room was as expected, very comfortable bed / pillows. Spacious room and nice private balcony overlooking a bush setting. Parking is ample , and although on the hwy very quiet. The only downside was the restaurant( Baddingtons) was a bit disappointing, one order was the wrong meal and the other order - the steak was very tough.. all in all a nice place to stay and would stay again. Thank you

"A very enjoyable stay"

Although we have stayed at the Apollo before when we have visited Newcastle, this stay was even more enjoyable. We were there for four nights in the newer wing and especially enjoyed the ground floor location with the screen door leading out to the balcony. It was just lovely having the bush land and listening to the bird song. We particularly enjoyed not hearing the traffic on the Pacific Highway of an evening. Room service was fast despite the restaurant being full, and a function. The food was very tasty and well priced. Both Charlestown and Kotara shopping centres are nearby and with regular buses running outside of the hotel, the Apollo is well located. We will definitely be staying there during our next stay, later this year.

I was very happy with my stay. I had plenty of room. The facilities were good, along with very pleasant staff. I really can't fault this hotel at all. I would most definitely stay here again without a doubt.

Parking was free. Hotel is very close to town center. Our room, which had a big balcony overlooking a lovely woodland, was spotless and spacious. The bed was absolutely comfortable. Howerever, the access to our room was a bit confusing and there is no lift. We went to town for dinner so couldn't comment on food at restaurant, but the settings look very lovely. Anyway, it was good value for money and we will come back.

We have been here several times over the past couple of years and the main attraction is the location, close to family & friends. Friends also stayed here in January for a birthday celebration and really enjoyed the pool area, balconies and wonderful natural bush and hunter valley views. Very comfortable & clean rooms, free wifi and, undercover parking. Easy check-in and check-out.

Good room with a view reasonable price however the bed linen was thredbare,pillows cheap and very thin,towels also needed replacing.Room service not available until after 12 noon.Restuarant good ambience really mediocre food quite expensive for standard served up.Staff were really attentive and gave good service, third time here but will be the last.Room cost was in the upper bracket and one would expect a better standard.

At the Apollo International our linen and toweling gets turned over regularly and do not believe that we are at the stage that we need to replace them. The linen used within the hotel is of the highest commercial quality, consisting of an 80/20 cotton/poly combination. Our room service is open for Breakfast and Lunch through to Dinner. It is however closed for 2 hours between the 10am & 12pm where we get ready for the next service period. I am sorry if you wanted to order within this period, however if we were made aware we would certainly have assisted. Babbingtons is well known in the region by locals and our in house guests for providing good quality food at reasonable prices, I am sorry that you did not feel the same way. I have however given this feedback to the chef's where we will look what dishes were had, and where we can improve. "Average accomodation, pricey but friendly staff"

Stayed here on business trip. Mostly average accomodation. Highlights were relatively new and plush towels, generally clean room albeit there were tired silicon and edging in bathroom. Air-conditioner had musty smell. Not sure if this was a change of season thing. Bed was comfortable but did have a dip although I wasn't bothered. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thought the accomodation was pricy but usually stay out by Newcastle airport. Was more expensive than our accomodation in Sydney

A one night stay to catch up with family who live nearby. The room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom has been updated and there is a big TV screen. Fresh milk provided on arrival and the room had a pleasant view over the bushland behind the hotel.

We stayed here as a family for three nights. The rooms are large with a seperate room for the parents with an additonbal television in this room. The beds were very comfortable. There is plenty of space in the main room, with a seperate nook with tea and coffee making facilities. There is a balcony of both the main room and parents room. Although on a main road there was very little traffic noise. I utilised the Gym and it has most things you would want. The reception staff were fantastic, warm in their greeting and very helpful with any questions we had. Complimentary newspapers each day. We didn't visit the restaurant so couldn't comment there. The house keeping staff were also really good. When back in Newcastle we will definitely stay here again

During a two-day visit to Newcastle, we found the Apollo to be perfect for our stay. The location is most convenient for Newcastle's attractions, the rooms spacious and well appointed and the bed particularly comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful, parking easily accessible and the hotel setting attractive. We would certainly stay here again when in Newcastle.

Everything was great except the bed. The mattress was very hard and the pillows were too low and soft. I would definitely stay in this hotel again IF they could guarantee a more comfortable sleep. Staff are very polite, kind and helpful, and the cleanliness of the room was above standard.

My hubby was in hospital and I stayed here. Staff went above & beyond. Room was absolutely amazing, bed warm & comfortable. Restaurant was beautiful and got to watch the sun go down while I ate my dinner. Food was delicious. Highly recommend. I'll be back.

Room was tastefully decorated. Loved the tea and coffee selections in the room. Service both at reception and in the dining room was excellent, Breakfast was very good with a great selection of food. The hotel was close to the shopping centre. Would suggest if you are having dinner in the hotel that you book early. Dining room was fully booked so we had to eat elsewhere.Would highly recommend Best Weston Apollo Hotel.

"Spacious Room with lovely View...but"

Our room was spotlessly clean and very spacious. Comfy queen bed, 2 x sofa chairs and a desk to work at. Bathroom has been updated, but for those with mobility issues, be sure to ask for a room without a shower/bath combo. We had a lovely outlook from the balcony to the west and watching the sunset was delightful. We were too tired from a long day's travel to eat at the restaurant so chose the room service option. Food was OK, but limited options and a little on the pricey side. On the downside, the staff member who assisted us with check in had no idea of the easiest route for my elderly mother to get to our room. He sent us on a long walk to the elevator to avoid the main stairwell, only for us to later find a much easier route to our room which saved my mother walking from one end of the hotel to the other and negotiating unnecessary stairs. She was exhausted by the time we arrived at our room. After finding a much simpler, faster route, I was definitely disappointed that the staff member had not given us that option. When I gave him the feedback he really wasn't interested. I have arranged for my staff to stay at this hotel several times during recent years and I feel it caters well for the corporate guest. This was my first visit, and whilst the room was great, the service could be better on check in and check out and the staff better trained in the layout of the hotel.

I came here to stay with another couple with us having 2 rooms booked together - we had balcony rooms overlooking the bushland which was a lovely outlook - rooms were 303 & 304 I think - but overall rooms were very tastefully decorated and very clean throughout- the rooms have absolutely everything you will need - all toiletries provided,hairdryer,fridge,jug,assortment of coffee and tea sachets - next time we stay we will book their restaurant in advance as it's obviously very popular and was already booked out for the afternoon we arrived - all in all a very pleasant stay - we even took our own drinks and snacks down to a table just outside the pool area to have our drinkies etc before going out for tea as no glass allowed in pool area ( understandable) There are even some great little ground level rooms that you can just walk outside your door to the pool area on those warm days u want to have a relaxing swim and they have their own little table and chairs at which you could sit to have drinks etc near the pool area also - very nice stay

This was a wonderful property with a lovel location. Our balcony looked out to the forest and it was so nice to be able to sleep with the door open and not worry about noise. The hotel was extremely cleanl, and everything we needed for our weekend getaway, And the service from arrival to departure was professional, enthusiastic and positive.

We arrived at this motel after being a part of the mass exodus from Sydney for the Easter getaway. It was a nice surprise to find our spacious room with such a peaceful and pleasant outlook, it overlooking the gardens and bush reserve beyond. The call of the whipbird in the morning was delightful. One wasn't expecting to find such a lovely locale in the city of Newcastle! As we weren't inclined to venture anywhere for dinner we stayed at the motel. Once again we were surprised with the standard of service and high quality of food presentation. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The dining room with floor to ceiling glass walls once again had a lovely outlook. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at this motel again.

The service was exceptional and the Hotel was clean and tidy with friendly staff. The Hotel is easy to find and has good conference facilities. The breakfast was ordinary but other meals were fine. There is also undercover parking.

I'm always happy to stay at the Apollo. The staff are very welcoming and very professional. Always happy to help. I have to stay in Newcastle quite a bit, and it's so convenient to know that the restaurant is really quite good, and I look forward to eating there. It's also great to know that when you pull in for the night after work, that's it, you don't need to get in the car again. The check out staff are always happy yo split the bill into what I require an email everything I need through, without any groans or hassles. The Apollo is just easy. Easy comfort. No hassles. In today's crazy world, we all need a bit of that.

What a great surprise this place was 10 minutes to Newcastle 15-20 to Caves beach. Beautiful rooms, pool and service. Rooms are large and lovely and clean. There is a lovely restaurant on site that serves a great breakfast.

This is a pretty good hotel. We asked for a room at the back which was very pleasant with a view out to trees and a balcony with chairs and table, although I imagine the rooms near the highway might be pretty noisy. The room was quite comfortable and very spacious. The bathroom looked as if it had been refurbished fairly recently and was fine. Obviously the location is not so great compared with being in the city but it is a reasonable price for what it is and we felt quite relaxed there. Breakfast was not included and was expensive. The wifi was free but didn't work all that well - very slow.

On our way from Sydney we stopped at this hotel. The staff were were welcoming and professional and formalities quickly sorted, we were on our way to our room. A large room, queen bed, settee, and door leading onto a small outdoor area with a table and two chairs. We went to the bar and enjoyed a plate of spicy potato wedges served with a mayo and sweet chilli sauce and two lagers. Later we enjoyed dinner in their open restaurant overlooking a tree filled garden and distant Lake views. We both had the a la carte belly pork with crispy crackling, always a winner, served on runner beans, a delicious smooth sweet carrot mash and apple purée. From the young staff who welcomed us at reception, to the bar staff, to the waiting staff at dinner and breakfast, they all had smiling faces, were professional and welcoming and obviously enjoyed what they were doing. It was a pleasure to be served by them all. Thank you it certainly made our stay with you very enjoyable. Well done.

I stayed here with my toddler on our way through to Brisbane. We didn't have a booking. The desk was swamped when we arrived, but the staff was courteous and efficient. The room was clean and tidy, but the bathroom was a bit like a nursing home, in that there was no segregation between the shower and the rest of the bathroom save for a shower curtain. I was worried that if I had a shower, I would make the floor in the rest of the bathroom wet and slippery. The sound proofing was inadequate. I could hear every roller case, conversation, trolley and meals tray that went past my room from around 6am, so suffice to say, my sleep quality was not great. It was an okay place to stay, and it wasn't overly expensive.

We have to have a certain number of accessible rooms in our hotel. Since the hotel was fully booked, we had to accommodate you in one of those guest rooms, which has a shower curtain, as opposed to a glass shower screen. In regards to your noise complaint – the hotel is built to the highest standard with sound-proofing that complies with the Building Code of Australia. We seldom get complaints about noise transmission, but obviously apologise that you were disturbed. Had we known about the disturbance, we would certainly have made every effort to deal with the noise complaint. Our team works hard to provide a superior level of service and accommodation. My room wasn't ready when I checked in at 6.30 pm. The manager offered me a complimentary drink whilst I waited. The room was huge and had an enclosed patio. There was a double sized kitchen sink but I'm not sure why, as there were no plates or cutlery or microwave. The window was locked closed so it was quite airless. Nice friendly service.

We stayed at this place for a full week. It was pleasant and clean. Pool cleaned every morning . Restaurant was good but have been to better. Very obliging and pleasant staff. Good off road parking. Just a short distance to the large mall at Charlestown and only 20 minutes from Newcastle.

On the positive side: The view of the bushland from the balcony was beautiful The staff were well trained and attentive The beds were very comfortable and we slept well The towels were of very good quality and the Natural Earth soaps and shampoos were a nice touch Breakfast was good On the negative side: The shower either needed re-grouting or some mould removal and the shower screen could use a good clean (reported to the staff) The toilet roll holder was in an awkward spot, a design fault but the position could be changed The pillow slip smelt of bleach There were marks on the carpet and the walls, particularly noticeable in the restaurant I found the dinner in the restaurant poor, the steak ($35) was full of grizzle and could not eat it (reported to waitress), however my husband enjoyed his meal Overall, I had expected better. As this was our wedding anniversary, I had hoped for better.

Arrived at about 1am and was greeted by a friendly and helpful staff member at the desk. We booked ahead about 2 hours beforehand and were so grateful to be able to do this. The room was on the ground floor and was fitted out for those with a disability. It looked really well equiped if this is your need. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom lovely and clean. There was a great little courtyard that offered privacy outside. The room had a nice view of parkland. On leaving the staff once again were very helpful and friendly - as I sat in the foyer for a while waiting for my lift I was able to hear that this was the 'norm' for their service.

Large bedrooms, comfortable beds, quality towels and linen in a lovely “bushland” setting. Lovely pool which was unfortunately a bit cloudy due to sunscreen from the swimmers. Staff rectified this and was clearer on second day. My only complaint was that there was a sticky residue on the bedside table and a dead cockroach on the floor. To be fair, it would have been easy for housekeeping to not notice the residue as it was only particularly noticeable when the bedside lamp was switched on. It needed a wet cloth run over it, not just a duster. When I reported these cleaning issues to reception on our first day the cockroach issue was rectified, but not the sticky residue which we again reported upon checkout. I would stay here again.

Property did not match the description given on Wotif nor meet expectations for a 4.5 star property. Linen was not luxurious. Crockery was dirty. Towels were thread bare. Curtains were not black out. Access to the pool was very poor and the pool needs redeveloping. Toilet didn't work properly and wasn't fixed despite being reported.

Access to our pool is via the lift down to Level 1 and is well sign-posted. We are disappointed that you did not enjoy the swimming pool. The large pool has been recently renovated and the only addition, which is contemplated, is the installation of a new timber deck around the pool in due course. As soon as we heard about the problem with the toilet, our maintenance team dealt with the problem. There was a fault in the cistern and that was quickly adjusted and repaired. Again, please accept our apology for this inconvenience. Had you informed us that the adjustment had not remedied the problem, we would obviously have immediately attended to the issue. From the front desk to the staff that delivered our delicious room service items, I have always received smiles and helpfullness from all staff. Overall, I would say the hotel has worth of the money you pay for it IF you want to stay for a night. The customer service is poor. Upon asking, they provided a dental kit for $2. Nowhere in my stays, I paid extra for basic amenities. This is the FIRST time I had to pay for a dental kit which is complimentary everywhere else. The hotel does not provide Slippers in rooms which again is very strange for a franchised hotel! The room service food selection is limited and expensive. There is no low price range option available. The room service staff just give you the dinner tray and all they care is to get your signature on the receipt.

I will be having a meeting with the restaurant that take the orders and deliver the food to the room, as customer service is and always has been our focus. Whilst I understand customer service, I also believe that our waiters mustn't be too intrusive in encroaching on our guest's personal space, so we do encourage a quick and friendly handover of the delivery. "Rude staff and not willing to help"

I was booked to stay here recently, however due to extreme weather our flight had to emergency land in Sydney with many hours to wait before it was safe to return. I was unable to get to there altogether and advised staff of this and offered documentation from airline to prove. Staff refused to cancel my booking and still charged the entire fee deducting it minutes after my phone call, they were not willing to even deduct a percentage. Just rude and unhelpful after a horrific flight. Won't be booking with them again !

Stayed for 1 night. Room clean and spacious, as was bathroom. My room had a balcony which was very small and appeared as though the table and chairs hadn't been wiped over in a few weeks. There was also a couple of rather large garden spiders who had taken up residence on the balcony. With the lovely garden bordering the balcony I understand this would be a frequent occurrence, but could be avoided by staff doing a quick check on the day of guest check in to remove any non-paying guests! It was a deterrent for me to use the balcony as spiders and I aren't at all friends. Staff were friendly and property was tidy. Would consider staying again.

We recently spent a few nights at The Apollo in Charlestown and could not have been more than happier with our stay. From the moment and service we received at Check In through to walking into our room. We were very pleased with the space in the room and the fact that the balcony was of a decent size. We also dined in the restaurant and were given wonderful service by the staff! Food was delicious and we will certainly book in for dinner again! I'd like to thank the staff for welcoming us and making our stay a very pleasant one. We will certainly be back to stay! We have made all of our family and friends aware of this establishment and have received wonderful feedback from them also! Had a family suite for an overnight sporting trip to Newcastle.Thought it was a little expensive for a one night trip but there was a lot on in Newcastle that weekend, so prices were generally on the high side. It was a return visit so we knew what to expect. Sam at reception was great when I called ahead and requested an early check-in (only an hour but made the difference). Room was great with 4 comfortable beds, a couple of tvs, an iron, small bar fridge, no microwave but we didn't require one. Bathroom a little dated but serviceable. For those with dodgy knees, hips or a little less mobile, there is a high step up into the bath/ shower combination which could prove problematic, so would suggest working on your range of motion prior to check in if you want to use the shower safely. My single overriding problem was that the room wasn't as clean as I recalled it being on a previous visit. Bathroom floor was dirty and the lumbar cushion on the main bed was stained with an unknown white substance that I tried really hard not to give too much thought to! Maybe just an off day for the hardworking housekeeping staff? Buffet breakfast was fine with all the usual offerings, but a bit pricey at $25 per head for what it was (bacon, eggs, cereal, fruit). Unless you get a great rate which includes breakfast, I would probably just find decent cafe somewhere. Lots of independent cafes and dining options including Kotara Westfield which is a short drive (5 mins give or take, depending on who is driving) away. A comfortable overnight stay, without being amazing.

It had been many years since we last stayed at The Apollo and we were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Our room was a "suite" with microwave, sink and crockery/cutlery available if we had needed it. The balcony overlooking the bushland was a great space to sit and listen to the cicadas. The amenities in the bathroom were top quality - Natural Earth, made in NZ and contained honeyl. Lovely to use. Check-in and parking were very convenient and efficient and having free WiFi is always a plus. Unfortunately we were not there long enough to experience the restaurants, pool or gym....but all were available.

This Hotel was easy to find with ample parking. All the staff that were encountered were all knowledgeable, courteous and well presented. The evening meal in the restaurant was outstanding, the braised lamb shoulder amongst our group was very popular, as was the lamb rump, confit duck and sirloin steak. All desserts sampled were of a high quality. Breakfast was standard, good selection of fresh fruit, cereal and hot items. The room was very well appointed, bed comfortable and amenities clean. Would have liked an indoor pool as opposed to an outside one, but only a minor thing. Overall a very enjoyable 2 night stay.

We were driving from Melbourne to Brisbane and decided at the last minute to stay at this hotel. Beautiful, clean spacious room on the top floor overlooking Bush land. Bathroom was roomy and very clean. We had a restful, pleasant nights sleep. Staff were wonderful. Would love to stay here again.

Stayed for a quick work visit. It's a lovely hotel. I did find it quite hard to locate late at night. The highway and intersections got to me and my navman misled me ! Also didn't really like the car park underneath - didn't feel entirely at ease at night coming through into the lift for the room on my own. Having said that, the room was lovely, comfortable bed, so clean. It had a little balcony overlooking some greenery. AND such a prompt room service delivery and the food was delicious.

Following a massive few weeks to move house it seemed fitting to reward ourselves on the final day of moving with a stay in a hotel room for the evening. Prices compared , clean & quality wanted & it was the Apollo that ticked all boxes. Rachel on reception was a pleasure to speak with & even offered us a free upgrade upon check in after seeing how worn out we were. Big room , pleasant view , clean , modern & tidy. A very small menu for room service however this made decisions easier.

In Charlestown on business, had previously stayed at this hotel - however this time tried a different room type, with two single beds. Room was very spacious and comfortable, with a balcony that overlooked gardens and bushland. Check-in/check-out was smooth and the staff were helpful and friendly. A few beers in the bar after work is a great way to relax. The hotel seemed fairly busy, which is usually a good sign...

The view from the room was very nice :) I like that there was a comfortable balcony overlooking trees and bush with native birds sitting in the trees. Having a gym onsite was great the only thing i would have liked was a microwave.

Overall we liked our room. It was clean with plenty of space. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Breakfast was great and hotel was in a good location for our stay in Lake Macquarie. Our only suggestion for improvement was the shower, which included a bathtub that one has to climb into to access the shower. That's not really good OH&S.

Received a confirmation email, and then on the day a confirmation phone call double checking our requirements (family room with additional bed). Arrived in the evening, plenty of parking and reception staff were very pleasant, with check in quick to complete. Room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was a combination of a continental and cooked buffet. Well maintained and looked after, again staff were very attentive and helpful. Our only minus points were that the room door was off of the reception atrium, so was a little noisy until about 11pm, however saying that, we were only there for one night, so didn't bother us too much. Also, the pool was maintained particularly well (lots of floating debris) and unfortunately was very cold, so no relaxing dip to wind down at the end of the day.

Location is not too bad as you have a large shopping centre in driving distance A number of restaurants also in driving distance. There are really no views and if you are visiting Newcastle it is about the beaches however, it is about a 10 to 15min drive. The room was spacious the bed was not the most comfortable which was a shame. Our room had a spa which was relaxing. Check in was fairly quick and easy man 24hrs, we were also advise if dinning in we needed to make a booking as the hotel was fully booked.

Conveniently located to the city and Lake, stayed here for one night at a business function. The room was quite a walk from reception however I was delighted with the size and layout of my room. The room was spotlessly cleaned with all the contemporary features required for a business hotel. My bed was comfortable and I slept well. My pillow was a trifle high but it was adequate. The shower and bathroom both functioned well. Dinner was of a good quality and breakfast well organised and with a good variety. Check in and out was fast and efficient. Staff were professional and well trained Well done all round.

The best in Newcastle. Luxury rooms and toiletries. It's actually very reasonably priced considering. I'm very familiar with the area. I guess people stay in Newcastle city but pay double the price. My advice is to stay here as the city is an easy 10 min drive away. Plus, Charlestown offers every shopping experience you could dream of.

Stayed here for 3 nights for business, the room size is very large and spacious. Staff were extremely friendly on check in, plentiful parking. The gym is very small, also the beds for me were a bit too soft and causing me a bit of back pain. Wifi wasn't consistent so had to reconnect a few times. On a whole would stay again but will request a harder bed next time.

this hotel is always welcoming, from front staff to restaurant and management to cleaning staff. The foyer is always clean and offers free apples and papers. The rooms are always clean and tidy. The food in the restaurant is exceptional with a great wine list to match. Even when there is several functions on at the same time there is plenty of parking available. Room service is quick and efficient with the food always arriving hot. I highly recommend this hotel to both business and traveling guests

We stayed overnight while visiting relatives for the weekend. Parking was excellent. Rooms were very clean. Beds and pillows so comfortable. Television and air conditioning were great. Our room was updated on arrival to the executive suit..lovely verandah and views. We didn't use the pool or gym but had a look and both looked great. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, the staff were so helpful. The food was presented well and top quality with a lot of choices. Both check in and check out of the motel was easy and quick. We couldn't fault anything and will definitely stay there again.

My partner and I stayed overnight at the Apollo. The reception staff super friendly and helpful and bonus upgrade to our room. Wi-Fi worked seamlessly, the gym and pool very good. The restaurant menu looked very tempting but we had Mande dinner arrangements with friends so did not have the opportunity to try (our loss). Very near to the town (easy walk). The room was very good, quality hair products and room service available if required. Parking was a breeze. No hesitation in recommending this hotel for overnight or longer stays.

Stayed in a family room overnight to attend Daughters Sporting event. Wish we had of gone up a day earlier. Great, spacious room with modern fittings. Beautiful verandah with a nice bushland view. Good no cost parking close by. Good location central to a couple of large shopping centres if you wanted that. Restaurant looked nice but as we had an early start opted for Room service - it was just average, so would try restaurant next time. Highly recommend as a great hotel if you are travelling around the Newcastle area.

Thank you Best Western Fast Check-In service, Great Breakfast & The Front desk staff were absolutely helpful. We pre-paid our breakfast which was A+ loads of selection. As this was our first time in Newcastle, the Hotel location was perfect for us to find our way around. Stayed 2nights in room 201a right at the end of the hallway & I will be requesting it again next time we're in Newcastle!! We had called reception and asked for a late-checkout and without any hesitation she approved the check-out for us! Thank you so much for making our weekend in Newcastle a great getaway! Shower over bath was a problem, high bath and a very big shower screen made access difficult. Improssible for my wife who has some mobility issues. Breakfast was of a good standard, however $25 was a bit steep. Returning to the main road to Sydney required a good navigator

Booked this one last minute during a busy holiday period, we had 3 rooms in total. Understandably there may not have been many other rooms avail... however one of the rooms had the most hideous smells! Thank god we were only here for a place to sleep whilst visiting fam or we would have left. A little more attention paid to wiping marks and grime off properly in bathrooms would make a difference to overall cleanliness and even providing clean cups and wiping bench down near coffee / tea would have been nice. If I was to ever stay here again we wouldn't do buffet breakfast- it wasn't anything special. No real care taken to keep area clean whilst guests were eating. Overall cleanliness of place was definitely a 2-3 - Apollo I would be having a word with your cleaners, it seemed like mere laziness not to wipe down basic surfaces properly. Good location for what we needed. Expensive for what we received. Would I book here again? Probably not.

This motel is excelent in all aspects - clean neat tidy with caring staff that are willing to support your stay My overnight stay was excellent in commparison to other stay overers - The location is a bit out of the way for Newcastle being a few minutes drive further down the Highway. For business around the bussling suberb of Charlestown it is excelent. My business was at the John Hunter Hospital also a few minutes drive down the road either way there is no real issues with traffic. Good central location with an Excellent international standard Motel.

Just returned after 3 night stay. Hadn't stayed here for about 3 years and it didn't disappoint. Clean tidy rooms comfortable beds. The doona in the bed was super warm which was great on chilly winters night. Check in a brezze the staff friendly and helpful. Only negative which was no fault of the hotel was I had extremely noisy people in the room next to me, when mentioned to reception the next morning they were very helpful. Definitely be back and highly recommend.

Five years later... Sustaining standards is one of the key challenges for a hotel. The Apollo has absolutely managed to do that since I last visited in 2012. A warm and welcoming experience with excellent cleanliness, sound and solid service, furnishings and fittings. Good nights sleep in a spacious room. it was mid-week and a very late check in but the restaurant - Babbingtons - takes orders till 9pm and had a mix of diners: a couple, a business group, some families with well behaved children. Food is completely fine - a bit boring on the flavour spectrum but beautifully cooked. Service is warm and enthusiastic. Don't stay anywhere else in Charlestown and is only 10 minutes maximum to drive to Newcastle CBD. Might take another 5 years, but I'll be back.

Absolutely fantastic, fuss free, professional, clean, helpful - Just some of the words I can find to describe our recent 3 day stay. We will definitely be coming back on a regular basis. And I say that after staying at many different accommodations in Newcastle over the past two years. I think I've finally found my 'home away from home'. Watch out when booking through Expedia. No free breakfast and no points. Expedia doesn't explain this. The hotel is not flexible. Otherwise the stay was fine. It was just low value for the money I spent. My expectations were not met at all especially with regard to the breakfast.

We stayed 2 nights as we had specialist doctor appointment nearby. Excellent accommodation and friendly staff. We had continental breakfast as part of our booking which was good. There didn't appear to be any lifts but as it is only 3 floors I guess is not needed. Lovely bush view with private balcony. Staff were excellent giving us a late checkout for no extra charge upon asking. Would highly recommend staying here if you have business in Charlestown area. Not far to Charlestown square. Could walk there if you're up for a good 15-20 minute walk.

Nice to have decaf tea and coffee available too! never seen this before! the mini bar was stuffed so full that nothing extra - including the free milk could fit in the fridge! also the fridge shelf had bars so far apart the milk could not sit level!

I stayed on the 4th floor in a new room and it was wonderful, bathroom large and great shower. Bedroom large and comfortable nice balcony overlooking the trees. I travelled alone so the bed was perfect however if you were a couple of appeared it was two beds put together not a true queen but I could be mistaken. I would definitely stay here again for business. Everything you would want including fluffy gown. The breakfast although not extensive was very tasty and well above average

First time in Newcastle, didn't want to stay in the city centre. Great welcome and simple quick check-in. Lovely spacious room really high standard. Great location easy to get around. Large shopping centre nearby and plenty of eateries handy to lake and beaches. Although it's on a main highway there was no traffic noise. Excellent for business or leisure.

I would highly recommend staying at the Best Western Plus Apollo International Hotel. Why you might ask, well the service I received was absolutely outstanding, the reception staff were always friendly and courteous, and always willing to help out in anyway they could, the overall cleanliness of the room I stayed in was outstanding, and the restaurants meals were to die for. Overall I had a great weekend while in Newcastle that was definitely made better with my accomodation, being so close to shops and other food outlets, you can't go wrong while staying here.

We stayed here throughout the Easter long weekend. It was a last minute idea and this hotel had only 2 rooms left so we jumped at the chance for a little weekend getaway. Booked the room at 11.30am, drove up and checked in by 2.30pm. The room was spotless, has everything you need. Very clean and easy to access. The location is perfect as we had family on both sides of the hotel, and we were central to everything. Had such a relaxing weekend, coming back to this hotel made things so much easier. The room was great, had a beautiful view, clean and modern and the staff are lovely. We are looking at coming back over the long weekend in June, looking forward to staying here again. We also had the breakfast buffet at the restaurant in the hotel - was beautiful, and extremely reasonable. Highly recommend this hotel! Absolutely amazing place to stay.

Very clean & excellent customer service. Well appointed. Only stayed one night but would of stayed longer if it was possible. Only downside would be difficult if you couldn't manage stairs but as this wasn't applicable to us. Very nice accommodation.

"Good rooms and aircon but poor service and resturant"

I stayed at best Western on a business trip and I was initially impressed by the rooms and hotel facilities. The restaurant offered good variety and good looking food, but 2 nights in a row we had under cooked and raw food. The kitchen service was slow and the atmosphere dull. Then 2 nights in a row the building was evacuated at 2am due to faulty fire alarm switches, which was also not facilitated well by staff. It is a shame as the hotel has the right ingredients but poor delivery due to service and a few other minor issues. Still an ok place to crash in New Castle though, just avoid the restaurant.

We change our menu seasonally and, since your stay, the menu has changed. I can assure you that every dish has been carefully designed and created, keeping in mind seasonal and local produce and balancing of all flavours. As you mentioned the fire alarm went off twice, however the correct dates & times that the false alarm went off was at 10:30pm on Saturday the 4th Feb 2017 and five and a half hours later at 5:00am on Sunday the 5th Feb 2017. As conveyed to all guests at the time, in a letter, this was caused by a fault in the alarm system which we profusely apologised for and was totally out of our control. In this same letter all guests including yourself were offered a complimentary nights accommodation, this offer was to compensate for the inconvenience caused during that night's sleep. Since this false alarm, all key staff have undergone fire drill training with experts in the field. I am now confident that, in the event of the alarm going off again, this will be dealt with both efficiently and professionally by all the staff involved. Set surrounded by bushland this is a quiet place to stay. Rooms are large, beds comfortable and staff very helpful. One of the bonus little touches is that they have quality instant coffee (and teas) in the rooms. Second stay here. This time I also discovered the undercover parking!

At $150 for the night, this motel was seriously good value. The staff were friendly and the room was spacious, well appointed (desk, chairs etc.) and very clean. The bed was comfortable and all the details had been attended to. The bathroom was as good as you can get in a motel and the shower was roomy and strong. Parking was easy. I didn't try the restaurant as I was meeting friends and left it too late to book on a busy night. It was clearly popular. The location is set back from the Pacific Highway but road noise wasn't a problem. Highly recommended.

Overall its beautiful. We will back again. Nice view from balcony Available car parking area Near to charlstown / Newcastle cbd. Friendly staff Bar fridge is full of mystery. Very clean and tidy. Big spacious rooms

Nice rooms and friendly accommodating staff. Lots of different types of people with kids etc. and still a relaxing stay with the number of people around. Breakfast was worth it as well. We'll be back here in future

Starting from getting a courtesy call within an hour of booking to clean spacious room, from great location to friendly staff, and from economical yet extensive breakfast buffet to balcony with a bush reserve view...we were very happy with our stay at the hotel. The staff is very helpful and accomodating. In addition to this, I cant emphasize on how good the location is. There are many options available around for food, shopping, attractions and recreation.

After visiting the castle and Nobby Head in Newcastle, we stayed at this hotel on the A1. Very convenient. Large room with balcony, nice modern bathroom. Free Wifi and free parking. Did not hear any noise from the road.

lovely large room with a balcony and a nice rural outlook. very easy free parking close to our room. staff were friendly and helpful. didnt try their breakfast but had coffee and read the papers each morning in the lobby. all in all a great stay.

We live local and after a tough week we wanted to get away from the house and relax in a big spa. The honeymoon room was wonderful and just what we wanted. Spa was heaven, bed very comfortable and large wrap-around veranda was great for sitting in the morning sun. Compared to other similar rooms at other Newcastle hotels, this represented very good value for money and we'll be back for sure. If you have a late checkout then it's worth popping the Do Not Disturb sign on to save any rude knocking by housekeeping.

I stay at this hotel on a regular basis (once a month on average) for business and continue to come back.... Very nice 4 star hotel with clean modern rooms, which are serviced daily.. Although the property is on a main highway, thanks to some very good insulation it's very quiet and a good night sleep is easily achieved. The only thing needing reviewing is the room service menu which recently changed, but not for the better (limited variety). Staff are excellent, and always willing to assist..

We stayed here on a weekend that they were obviously busy and I think that might have been more than they are used to handling as everything that weekend seemed to not quite hit the mark, from administration through to restaurant service and they seemed like they were maybe thrown off their A game and a little flustered. The hotel is modern, clean. Rooms are modern, clean, tidy, have air con, tv, good bathrooms, and rooms have a nice peaceful outlook, we slept well. A good size pool. Plenty of parking. The restaurant has a very good menu through all courses, full of meals I could happily choose but unfortunately the cooking of them let this experience down. I had an overcooked rib-eye on the bone 1 night then the pork belly lacked that crackling crunch the following night. Desserts options are excellent - I recommend the doughnuts. If I was back in the area I would probably give this hotel another chance and hope for it to deliver on it's promise.

"Lovely place to stay"

We stayed as a family of 4 adults and a 3 month old baby. Lovely surprise to find a spacious 2 bedroom family room, with a cot supplied for the baby. The room also has a small nook for coffee making and bathroom with bath. The motel looks to have been recently refurbished and the decor was simple but nicely done. Main bedroom had a king size bed and the other had two singles and still had enough room for a sofa and coffee table. Breakfast was one of the better buffets I have had in Australia. $25 for a walk in breakfast but if you booked the night before it was $20. Staff quickly informed us that eggs could be cooked any way we preferred if you did not want the poached eggs already on the buffet. The continental breakfast was $18. All staff in the dinning room were friendly and very helpful. Just a quick suggestion, door stops for the doors leading to the balcony and water jug in fridge. However, having said that, I didn't ask housekeeping either. If I had, they may have been had them. I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend this motel to family and friends, although it appears that my family have stayed here a number of times. Extra note...I loved the vases in the reception area and the brand of complimentary toiletries were really nice.

We last stayed in 2015 and were very disappointed by the attitude of this hotel, post check-out . We are happy to say that this time our overnight Bed & Breakfast was great. The rooms are large, well appointed and well maintained. We ordered Room Service and had an early night in the comfy bed. Breakfast was a leisurely affair and well worth the money.

Very conveniently located to shopping centres, pleasant drive to foreshore. Good sized room and very comfy beds. Restaurant meal was excellent, breakfast variety good. Staff were fabulous!! Could use some bench space in bathroom for putting down items and no toilet lid - gross! (Maybe because of handicapped access??) Drinking glasses were not clean and we needed to wash them prior to use - when they were replaced they still were not clean. Room was very clean. Convenient under building parking. Overall a good stay and would go back.

Pretty good value for money, Foods great, rooms are clean and large and I had a great view over the adjoining bushland, very relaxing having a glass of wine on the balcony. Restaurant has good food, and not your normal hotel style food. Bed comfortable, and although the gym is a little small, its ok .

We stayed here for my mums 70th birthday The staff were so friendly and accomodating to our needs. We dined in babbingtons the onsite restaurant and the food was amazing. Makes it's so easy to go back to your room after dining. It's walking distance to Charlestown square Totally recommend this fantastic hotel and the service to anyone

Stayed on a saturday and sunday, comfy beds and enough room for my wife and 2 adult children. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was a bit dated but clean, a screen missing off a window loses it points. We liked the range of complimentry shampoos etc. Breakfast was good, the range of the buffet was good and all the food was nice and fresh, will do your eggs however you like. That said, $25.00 a head is a bit up there, although there is a cheaper option (continental). I understand the restaurant is one of the better places around for dinner but didnt eat there so cant comment. Overall an above average motel, would recommend as a place to stay.

Great service from staff (especially reception staff who went out of their way to help), good amenities such as a gym and pool, location to John Hunter Hosp was just 10 minutes, food tasty and outlook from the bedrooms very leafy and peaceful even though the hotel is on a main road. I will no doubt, be back!

As we had stayed in Best Western in Europe we accumulated points and were upgraded to a lovely large room with views to the bushland at rear. Very comfortable and clean. We booked into the restaurant downstairs and the food was delicious altho a bit slow on the service, friendly staff. Was given good advice on accomodation further along our journey up the Pacific Hwy and recommendations on restaurants. Would stay again.

This Motel is always great. However, this time I was given a room on the southern end of the complex - it seemed a bit of a downgrade. The room (227) had loose cupboard doors, a light & ventilation fan in the bathroom not working & an air conditioner positioned in the room to be of limited effect & noisey. As always the bed was very comfy. A minor hassle with this Motel is exiting onto the main road - left turn only, which means crossing 3 lanes of traffic quickly to make a right turn onto side streets to head south.

I always stay at this hotel when in Newcastle. The staff are friendly and helpful, and always seem to up-grade you when they have the rooms available. I always have a wonderful meal at the restaurant (or room service) and a fantastic night sleep on those cloud beds! I also appreciate the on-site gym :)

Stayed on business in Charlestown recently, and was booked into the Apollo. The room was quite spacious with a writing desk and chair, coffee table, two easy chairs, and a balcony. Gym on site, but plenty of space in the room to stretch etc. Easy walk to retail/business area of Charlestown. Lovely restaurant for evening meals and breakfast. If needing to return to the area for business, would definitely suggest we book here again.

After trying several other places over 35 years of traveling back to Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, this is the place to stay for me. The Apollo is centrally located, in what is a sparse region (Newcastle/Lake Macquarie). There is a lot of parking, the staff are friendly, and the rooms suit my needs. Breakfast is great too.

As usual the service didn't disappoint in this very friendly, popular hotel! Steve organised our stay here and we had a great weekend as well as dinner in our favourite restaurant, Babbington's. The facilities are wonderful and the king spa suite is a dream with gorgeous bush views. Breakfast was divine so once again we had a marvellous stay.

I thought the price was very good for this modern, clean hotel. The family room was large and comfortable, and we very much appreciated having free laundry (though some other guest took my damp stuff out of the dryer and left it on the ironing board, not the hotel's fault). The only down side is that we selected this hotel, thinking it would be a location we could catch up on work online. However, the internet was limited to 1GB and ran slow. That surprised me for this higher end place in a big city. We had a tough run of hotels in Australia not having free, unlimited or functioning internet, which we did not expect ahead of time! I highly recommend the breakfast buffet. It was delicious and quite a treat. Over all it was a very nice place to stop for a night.

Good rooms. Helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast room service was good. Overall a good quality hotel. Have stayed there twice and will be back in another couple of weeks. A little expensive but noticed other similar accom was also quite expensive at the time. Non smoking in rooms and balcony, but smoking in car park is a short walk from room. Outside car park was quite full each night but always found a park.

Well appointed room with everything you expect from the Best Western Chain. Staff were attentive and smoothed out any hiccups promptly and without fuss. Bar facilities are within the dining room. Buffet breakfast was hot, plenty-full and extensive in range. Restaurant meals were excellent. There is a pool and a gym. The TV worked The air-conditioner was quiet and allowed a good nights sleep. No traffic noise or noise from the corridors was really appreciated. Conference facilities and lighting were top class with no disturbance from other guests. Direct access was available to the court-yard from the conference room during breaks, without having to go back through the hotel proper, was a bonus.

All staff are courteous and helpful. The hotel is clean and well presented. I would certainly recommend this hotel. My husband and I visit our daughter who lives in Newcastle once or twice a year and the Apollo Best Western is where we always stay.

Took a while to check in on a Friday afternoon as there was only one person manning the desk and the queue was getting very long. We were "upgraded" to a king suite which was obviously a room for disabled persons given the shower was so low and there was a bench provided. The shower ran hot and cold and the bed was obviously two singles pushed together to make a "king" which made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. Only good thing was that parking was free.

Well situated hotel with great rooms and excellent staff. Has the extra advantage of pool,gym and balconies in some rooms. The breakfast was of good quality with plenty of choice. I ate in the restaurant on both evening and the service was attentive and pleasant.

Arrived in the afternoon after a very long drive, it was a pleasure to finally arrive and rest. super easy to check in and find our room, The room was very comfortable and even tho it faced the road the room was very quiet. it was an easy walk to a huge shopping centre and a bus stop nearby so we could travel easily and not worry about finding our way around a strange city. Would definitely stay there again.

It's a nice and modern facility however there were some quirks which I didn't expect for a four/and a half star property. First our safe didn't work, and whilst the attendant was quite quick to respond and it took three attempts to fix it (at the end we found that it wasn't locking due to the fact that batteries needed changing) but another more worrisome thing is that the designers of the building smartly put a noisy air con engine right in the middle of nine apartments which means at night whenever the motor is running it would generate quite a noisy hum this not allowing us to enjoy the peace and quite of this country town. Also another annoying fact was that the bedsheets weren't changed ... We had accidentally soiled the bedsheets from the night before... But by the time I discovered it when I came back late at night it was too late to ask them to change the sheets I thought. I would have expected it to be changed daily. Otherwise wouldn't it be cheaper and more convenient to stay at the Charlestown executive apartments which are right in the centre of town and more convenient?

Have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. The staff are always pleasant and happy to help. the restaurant serves excellent although they are a bit on the pricy side. The Breakfast is nothing special hot food was cold and the coffee was awful. The room was large and well appointed. Be aware that there is no lift and you have to carry your luggage up and down the stairs. As for a ground floor room if you have limited mobility. As a quick overnight stay for business this Hotel is great.

The Apollo was quite comfortable the room was listed as an apartment but had only facilities of hotel room the Bed was very comfortable and the room was well appointed would be better with a toaster and a microwave,

"Surprise and delight"

We arrived at this hotel tired after a long day travelling. It was raining and cold but the atmosphere on arrival was welcoming, quick and efficient. The hotel was clean and modern. Our room was spacious and inviting. The bathroom was great with plenty of space for toiletries. Lovely natural view from our window. No noise from the road or other hotel guests but great to wake up to birds singing. Room service and a great restaurant. Pool and gym. No extra cost for underground parking. A great find. We will go back there again for a longer stay.

The Room was upgraded at checkin to a King Suite. The room had a view over Newcastle which was lovely. Didn't go to the bar/restaurant but the Gym was excellent. All the Staff were very helpful and professional.

Great value stay, booked as a 4 star mystery hotel. Pleasantly surprised when given name of hotel for price. Rooms here are usually more costly so we were very happy to stay at such a quality hotel. Great room with nice little balcony with bushland and pool view.

Clean and comfortable room, front desk staff were friendly. Not 4.5 star hotel, at least on 5 point scale. More like an clean, enclosed motel with indoor/outdoor carpeting throughout and bar which was closed by 10:25 on Saturday night. Bed was comfortable, with room and common areas large and clean. Walls allow sound of conversations to be heard in next rooms. Suggest improving this. Fine value for money if you have quiet people (or no people) in neighbouring rooms.

Lovely modern hotel. Super Comfortable bed and pillows. Nice outlook from the balcony over the bush land. Bathrooms have nice MOR branded products. Breakfast buffet was great. Lots of choice both hot and cold. Eggs Benedict was delicious. Can walk to Charlestown Square quite comfortably. All the staff were lovely. Thanks for making out stay so nice.

Another pleasant stay at the Apollo. Checkin/out was pleasant however was informed on arrival I'd been changed to a twin room as opposed to King (just myself and daughter travelling). The room was ok. The biggest issue is that there the door to the balcony didn't fit correctly so neither of us got any sleep due to severe storms and winds ... Howling under the door. Avoid the twin rooms on the side of the hotel 2nd floor if possible. Restaurant was great. Only comment would be to try and add some gluten free options for the children's menu. Great central location if you need to be close to Charlestown, kotara or Newcastle cbd.

Loved my stay at the Hotel, the restaurant was AMAZING!! The only disappointment was the photos on Wotif are the honeymoon suite and clearly not the room you get for the price. I feel its false advertisement but did think our room was extremely good for the amount paid. Staff were lovely and super helpful

Not convenient to where I had to go...but will consider staying again....locked out of side doors after dark so had to go to front entrance if needed to go to car....swipe access should be on all doors

A very good property on the outskirts of Newcastle, rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet. You wont be disappointed. As a business traveller the location is only five minutes from the city and walking distance to other amenities in Charlestown.

Did not expect such a nice hotel, we stayed there as to be close to Lake Macquarie Private Hospital . From the minute we met Mark at reception , the visit was great . Rooms clean, warm and cosy . Not having to ask for a wifi code was good, most hotels you have to beg for the code. Local knowledge given by Mark was much appreciated .

I have been staying at this hotel yearly for 3 weeks stints and each visit the management and front desk remember me. Your thinking its just a neat sales gimmick and I would usually agree except when they mention key issues that where discussed in passing from previous years. The rooms are kept immaculate by a friendly housekeeping team and the public washing room free liquid, drying racks just make if feel like home. The food is exceptional so it not all like home as my cooking is usually microwaved. If your passing through and want something affordable and homely try here first.

Our family stayed at this property for two nights. We found the property clean, tidy and very comfortable. The property appears to have had a recent renovation including soft furnishings and bathrooms. Rooms were quiet despite being close to the main road and contained all the necessary amenities. Bedding was very cosy. Reverse cycle heating took the chill out of the room in what was a very cold and bleak weekend. Loved the balcony which backs onto bushland. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay again.

My partner and I stayed in an Executive King room over the weekend and could not have been more impressed! The room was spacious and modern, with a large private balcony. The bed was so comfortable I wanted to take it home with me! As all of the guest rooms face the peaceful bushland, there is not even a hint of the road noise you would expect to hear in a Hotel located on the Pacific Hwy. The Hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the Charlestown Shopping Centre, and just a short drive to the centre of Newcastle. We dined in the Hotels restaurant Babbingtons on the first night of out stay; the food, drinks, and service were 5 star! The restaurant itself is beautiful and looks out over the bushland through floor to ceiling windows. We also enjoyed their yummy breakfast buffet both mornings, and found the selection was plentiful. All of the staff we encountered during our stay were welcoming and friendly. Emma in particular who checked us in was lovely. We highly recommend this Hotel to others, and will definitely be back on our next trip to Newcastle. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

The hotel appeared great when pulling up, and the staff were very friendly when checking in. Unfortunately the room wasn't up to the same standard; overpowering chemical smell in the room, some mould in the shower, hair and muck in drain. The food for room service was also pretty bland for the cost. The pillows were really old and lumpy. By no means was the stay terrible, but there wasn't really anything great that would make me want to go back.

The motel is modern, clean and very well maintained. The rooms are quiet ( even though ours was outside the guest laundry we didn't hear it). The staff are very pleasant and polite. We would stay here again and recommend it to others who would prefer to be out of the middle of Newcastle.

It would seem that if you book through a 'third party' you're allocated a room in the depths of the building - ours was opposite the laundry which was supposed to close at 8pm, but the noise of the dryer kept us awake well after 10pm. We could not only hear the toilet flushing in adjoining rooms, we could hear the users! We were also at the end of the hot water chain (which seemed to be used up by a large bus group of teenagers before it got to us). The staff tried to help by offering us another room, but moving everything after already unpacking and carrying it up three flights of stairs is not a great solution. The room was large with a great bed and good outlook.

"Can be better depends on the room"

Inconsistency with room standards. We have previously had a better quality room at this hotel. The cupboards and drawers stick together and are noisy to use, these are no fly screens on the windows. The location is fine for shopping and you need a car to access the city and beaches.

This is located not very far from city centre, it only took me 10min to drive to memorial walk, so location is great. Room is very clean and HUGE for the money, some of the devices are a little outdated like the iPhone 4 recharging station, and the tv can be bigger, but other than that, the staffs are excellent and the free wifi and parking is actually what made us choose this in the first place. Highly recommended!

Desk staff most efficient and no fuss. We were upgraded to a bush land room. Loved the balcony overlooking the bush and listening to the birds. . We were able to leave the balcony doer open as there was a fly screen, fresh air important to me. Bed comfortable, giving a good nights sleep, bathroom excellent, room a nice size. I ate in the restaurant and found the quality followed through. Staff efficient without fuss. I had Asian Duck and it was yummy and well presented.

Advertised as a 4 & 1/2 star "International" Hotel, but feels more like the average motel. Pool big but not heated, radio in the room did not work. TV works, but not that big. Yes, it is clean etc, but no the feel of what I would get internally in a 4 & 1/2 venue

Bathroom the shower over the bath. The bath is very high with nothering to hang on to when getting in & out of the shower. There is a glass panel which makes it harder to get over the bath when you have mobility issues or are older.You had to sit on the bath then try to lift your legs over, then stand up.

Good location and modern setting, however there were a few issues of cleanliness that the hotel should address. Changing the sheets after the previous guest would be a good start. Will probably not stay here again.

Room 214 this time. Service was very good as usual. I was very happy the first time I came when the manager said that they'd put my name down in the system and offer me best rates. Room 214 comes with a small balcony. Something different from last time. Unfortunately there was a slight odour when I entered the room. But this was quickly gone when I opened the window. The table where the coffee and tea are placed had a few stains. For the price I think it's good value for money. It's close to Charlestown shopping centre.

Stayed at the resort over the ANZAC Long Weekend, Staff was extremely helpful and available 24 hours to assist when required, quality of the room was above standard and the bed was over sized and extremely comfortable. The resort location is perfectly located found 2 minutes north of Charlestown and 10 minutes south of the Newcastle City CBD...thearters and restaurants abound, short drive to the beautiful views and waters of Lake Macquarie and the beaches of the Pacific....Truly a wonderful all round experience.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon for one night during our roadtrip to Sydney. We arrived quite late after a full day out and were served very quickly and efficiently by the reception staff. It was a lovely surprise when they announced they had upgraded up to their honeymoon suite! The suite was amazing!!! It was extremely clean and decorated beautifully. It's those extra details which mean the most and the management had even left us a little note to say congratulations and a plate of chocolates with some champagne :) The bathroom was huge and the shower was to die for. The balcony ran all around the outside of the room, overlooking a beautiful view of the forest and the pool which was very romantic at night when it was lit. Excellent service, hotel and stay - I would highly recommend it.

Spent 3 night at this hotel while in Newcastle. Located close to great shopping and a short drive to great restaurants in Newcastle. Beautifully clean, friendly staff and lovely views. Had an ok stay. Good size clean room, comfortable bed, nice bush view from the balcony. Heard stomping for an hour from the above room. My son cried for ages because of the noise it was very frustrating. Had a nice coffee at breakfast at an extra cost. Staff weren't to friendly no smiles, warm welcome, no how was your stay..just pay and leave.

Having stayed at Best Western on our trip and found 2 out of three very good, we decided on the Apollo International after reading the reviews. Very clean and very open reception, which was matched by our spacious room on level three. A balcony at the rear overlooked a quiet wooded area which was pleasant to relax and view after a long day on the road. The bed was soft, bit soft for our liking, (not your fault Apollo). The minibar was well stocked but personally, $9 for a Crownie was a bit too much. We used room service, the meal arrived promptly and hot. Our package included breakfast, cold and hot, and again with a good choice. Coffee machine had a bit of a temper so beware. Overall a good experience and would recommend and good wifi.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The rooms are quite large with and are extremely clean. We had a ground floor room and could park our car immediately outside which was handy. During the stay we had room service on the Sunday night as the restaurant was not open and found the service to extremely good and was the food. On the second night we ate in the dining room and we very much enjoyed the meal. The only problem I had was that the pillows were a little on the old side and a bit lumpy but aside from that this is an excellent establishment and I would highly recommend it.

Rooms are well appointed and extremely comfortable. Unfortunately the older section of the building can be a little noisy, but if you are fortunate enough to stay in the newly completed extension than a great nights rest is assured. Extremely clean, excellent service and very well located. I stay in many hotels throughout NSW for work and can honestly say that this is the best in Newcastle, and for the price better than many I have visited up and down the NSW coast. Babbingtons restaurant I believe is one area that lets the hotel down a little, the food is good and fresh but I argue again that I believe a better meal can be cooked at home and the price I think for what it is, is a little over priced.

We spent a couple of nights at the Apollo for my wife's birthday. It is a clean modern hotel with a nice feel to it. There is lots of parking and the staff are nice and courteous. It is only 8 minutes from the centre of town which is really good too. A nice place to stay with a view of the hunter valley. Will definitely stay there again. I recommend this one.

We stayed over a weekend and found the service very good, Staff were friendly, professional, provided good advice on local attractions and were very accommodating. The rooms were spacious and comfortable - ours had balconies overlooking the garden and trees. Despite being on a busy road it was very quite and peaceful. The restaurant was pleasant and the food good - room service a little hit and miss, though. Bathrooms were clean with nice toiletries - although the range could be expanded. Overall a very comfortable stay and highly recommended. We'd stay again if in Newcastle.

Just happened to stay there as was attending a business function but was extremely impressed and will be asking people to hold their business functions there in future as it is so nice. This is a comfortable and clean hotel with large rooms, a good restaurant and a decent outdoor pool. It seems very popular with wedding parties and receptions. The food in the restaurant is good as is the breakfast.

No quality staff at reception or in restaurant. Rooms are getting tired, beds should be replaced. Bed sheets were terrible & do not believe they were fresh. Poor parking options. Lift is difficult to access & use for rooms as you have to carry your bags a long way - up and down stairs if you want to use the lift - very poorly designed. Restaurant food - very average & not value for money. Money deducted from my credit card on check in just in case I used anything from the mini bar & on checking out I was told this could not be refunded for up to 7 days - very poor indeed if there are not deductions. Reception staff did not seem much interested.

We were very happy with the service as we arrived early but we were able to check in immediately. The front desk staff were extremely helpful with maps and suggestions. The rooms were a good size and the bed very comfortable. We did have trouble with the free internet service as it was inconsistent but as we were not relying on this for business it was not an issue during this stay. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both were very enjoyable- food fresh and tasty, service very good. W would certainly stay here again and will recommend it to our travel agent friend.

This was my 4th stay at the Apollo International and it is the 4th time I left impressed. My room was upgraded which was a nice surprise. The beds are comfy, rooms are a decent size and the restaurant onsite is nice

Probably more of a business suited hotel rather than a family stay, but still done us well for a 1 night stay. Room was very clean and looked recently renovated. Gym was small but still better than nothing. Pool was ok too even though a tad cold. Location is good if exploring around Newcastle area. Lots of things within a short drive. Highlight of staying here would have to be our dinner at babbingtons restaurant. Was the best dinner we have had in a while and highly recommend it.

The Apollo is great. Friendly service and good amenities. The restaurant is fantastic. The service was friendly and helpful. My room, 201a, however was near the roller door for the carpark and people going in and out was a bit noisy. I'd recommend a room facing the bush around the back.

Having a weekend away, we booked the Apollo, we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful bushland veiw and quiet rooms, the rooms look modern and quite big. We bought our own pillows for our own comfort. As a lot of pillows in hotels tend to be flat. But overall had a comfortable stay. We also decided to have our dinner in the restaurant and were extremely impressed with the amazing food, and the professional service, we'll be back.

Was happy with this hotel, however the front office staff were very odd. Not very friendly or helpful at all. The Chinese woman at the front desk kept me waiting for several minutes while she took a phone call, with no recognition that I was standing there. Only just staring at me...! No "Sorry and thanks for the wait" when she did eventually walk over. And the gentleman at the front desk on check out was very unhelpful and rude also. When I approached the desk to check out he simply stuck his arm out and said with attitude "checking out?".

The car had to be parked some distance away from the unit, involving stair cases. This was hard work with suitcases. The units were well appointed and comfortable. Room size was very good and spacious.

We had a room on the very bottom floor which was clean and comfortable and quiet. We thought the bed sheets could have been a bit nicer. The ones on our bed were clean but seemed older and thinner. The shower was good, Wifi was a bit spotty however. Overall the stay was great and the dining room staff particularly friendly and helpful. We had dinner twice and both meals were excellent.

This is a great location for visiting Newcastle and surrounding parks and nature reserves. Great rooms, excellent dining room and a nice atmosphere. Our room had a balcony overlooking the forest and plentiful bird life! Shopping is a 10 minute walk away. We found the staff unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

I stayed here last year and again this February. This is a good, quiet and clean hotel with spacious rooms and free parking. There is air conditioning, free wifi, paid breakfast and comfortable beds. Unfortunately however, there are still some issues. I've noticed a guest before me has commented on there being no electricity in his room. This happened a number of times in my room and judging from the comments by the staff member who came to sort out the issue, this is a known problem for a number of rooms. The key card which sits in the electricity panel inside the room will randomly fail making all the lights switch off. The first time it happened it was early evening, still light enough in the room to see. The second time it was morning (though we had to take a torch into the bathroom as there is no window and it's too dark to see without light), the third time was in the middle of the night after we had returned from a wedding reception plunging us into complete darkness. This is most certainly an OHS issue - I was fortunate enough to have my mobile phone within grasp and was able to turn on the torch. We were also fortunate enough to have been told how to fix the issue by staff (go down the hallway and flick a switch on a wall panel) which we did at 12am. The lights had gone again by the time we woke up, but by then we were glad to be checking out. If this issue isn't fixed, someone could be seriously injured tripping over something in the dark - I'm no lawyer but I'm fairly certain the blame would lie with the hotel. This hotel now also does 'pre-authorisation on credit cards' and tells you to pay upfront when checking in. Or does it? While we were forced to pay the total amount upfront on arrival, our relatives who arrived the next day were told they could pay when checking out. I found this particularly interesting to hear and shows inconsistency in the treatment of customers. Paying on arrival is problematic - if you are intending to share the cost of the room with a friend/family member and they aren't there when you arrive - you better make sure you've got enough cash on your card to cover the full amount. On a different note, in the hallway outside the room were were staying in, I counted 12 daddy long leg spiders within about a 2 metre radius along the ceiling and walls. Not very comfortable for an arachnaphobic so I thought it best not to look any further. The room, however, was spotless. I'm always fair and honest in my reviews, so I've given the good points with the bad. Despite my comments, this IS a nice hotel to stay in, but I really think they can do better considering the price customers pay.

A few weeks ago when you last stayed we discovered a fault in the lighting circuit within your room, after your visit this was believed to have been addressed with a larger circuit breaker that was installed by our qualified electrician. However two weeks later, this again tripped in the same room, and it was then discovered that it was in fact an exterior light that was causing the circuit to trip and not the size of the breaker. I can assure you that this has not happened to a number of rooms as assumed in your statement. As mentioned in the last review, Daniel_B0702, this has now been addressed and in 100% working order. Whilst only being hoteliers we do rely on the expertise of qualified tradesmen to fix these sorts of faults. Had we not been 100% full this night, we without question would have offered to move your party to another room. We are truly sorry that your experience was affected by the incident. We do pre authorisation on all rooms as our hotel procedure, a standard procedure that is practiced throughout Australia in most hotels. This allows the hotel to hold funds for a limited time and then to be used to cover any incidentals that are consumed during guests' stay. Your friends that were not charged for their stay upfront were served by a new receptionist who did not follow this procedure, this clearly identifies that training within the reception is still required and will be arranging this soon. The reason we take money on arrival is because we have found in the past that guests have exhausted their funds by the time they check out and then the hotel is left short. However arrangements can be made at the reservation stage for split bills. We spray for spiders and other pests every month and do weekly checks for cobwebs throughout the corridors but whilst the hotels lies adjacent to a reserve, we find that these unwanted spiders can appear overnight. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we will be referring this over to our pest control company. To value your return business we offered a considerable discount to your accommodation and thank you for the kind words in respect to the cleanliness of the rooms. Had we not been 100% full this night, we without question would have offered to move your party to another room. This has now been fixed by a qualified electrician who identified the fault being the exterior flood light, which has now been replaced. We are truly sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Decided to take an impromptu weekend away and needed a nights accommodation in the Newcastle area. Found the Best Western Plus, Apollo Intl. after a dig around a few sites. Price was a bit higher in comparison to other hotels but that was made up for in terms of location, amenities and comfort of the hotel. Our room was in what appeared to be a new wing of the building and was well presented with a modern, clean decor. The added plus was small, private'ish balcony (set up with two chairs and a small table) with great views out across bush land. We'd planned to have dinner out elsewhere in the local area but used the hotel bar for a drink earlier in the evening. Restaurant/bar have great views across the bush taking advantage of the floor to ceiling glass windows. All in all a great location with good facilities.

Staff are friendly and professional. Everything is spotless and well kept. Good fast and free WIFI. Breakfast was large and cooked to perfection (Though my yogurt was forgotten on my roomservice breakfast and I didn't notice until after checkout). Only not so great thing was the bed was way too soft. mediocre sleep and annoying back the next morning.

Service was good the staff were excellent on checkin and throughout my stay. I was in Newcastle on business and I felt really secure in this hotel. The room was spotless and I could not find a fault. The room had a balcony which is a nice change from other places I have stayed on business. The only feedback I have is my air conditioner was not very cold my room was very warm. I will definitely return to apollo if I come back to Newcastle.

The reception staff were outstanding with welcome and service - an obvious compliment to selection and training. All staff, including housekeeping, maintenance and restaurant were always smiling and happy. I felt happy and appreciated during the full stay. My reason for traveling to Newcastle was for my 80th birthday and General Manager Richard Christie & FOM Robyn EunSoo Lee must have spread the word - everyone who saw me said 'Happy Birthday' - wonderful people.

Apon arrival to this best western I was aware I was paying $204 for a one night stay in a kind room, to than be told that they take " an imprint" of my credit card - for a $150 security deposit/to cover any damages, to than check my bank account and the $150 was removed from my account straight away! I was also told it will take a further 5-7 working days for a refund of the money, I personally have never received this type of service at any accomodation I have stayed at ever before! I personally know that the rooms get cleaned the same day each person checks out as my mother is in charge of a best western in town and a refund of the security deposit should happen On this same day! I won't actually stay here ever again! On the plus side, the bed in our room was extremely comfortable and I really enjoyed the spa!

It's located on the Pacific highway but the room was very quiet as they are overlooking a lovely treed area with the birds singing. Great to sit on the balcony in the morning to enjoy your coffee. Room was well equipped and clean and bright. Excellent parking. New building and has an outdoor pool at the rear along the treed area. Very comfortable and good value for the dollar. Would definitely stay here again.

We come here for one evening, stopover and evening meal. The reception was great. Room lovely! Nice view over the Gum trees, Kookaburras chirping away. Sun set on its way... Really nice. The Restuarant; the Manager was really friendly and attentive, as indeed were the rest of the staff. We ordered and the starters were finger licking good! The mains arrived, mine was spot on, Elaine's though did fall short of the mark.. We called the Manager over, he handled the situation with real professionalism. Really impressed with him. He offered us various options to put it right. He insisted on free desserts, very kind, we declined. But felt the whole experience warranted a top score on here. Why, well it's a true test of a place, when they handle a complaint. These guys were spot on. Will we be back, we sure will!

We are back again for the second time, reception was as I expected the care the offered was fantastic. We went down for a swim and it was great, I went downstairs when my phone charger failed and they have lent me one that they have. This is why we came back without even checking other places. Beautiful accommodation. Handy to two large shopping Centres and close proximity to beautiful merewether beach. Friendly staff and room service is great. WiFi is fast and hotel has a free guest laundry service which is very handy.

Air conditioning didn't work all that well. Can't believe that it has turned into a non smoking hotel, not even on the balcony. We stayed here in October 2015 and many times previously in which we could. Should make it so that the rooms on the southern side ( older section ) have smoking balconies and then all other rooms in the newer section could be non smoking which is the majority of the hotel. CATERING FOR ALL GUESTS. Just lost another customer for this reason

Stayed here for business in Feb 2016. Was expecting very little due to it being a Best Western on a highway but was pleasantly surprised. Rooms are modern and comfortable, view from hotel is very nice and the resteraunt is good quality. I would recommend this hotel if you need to stay in the area.

Recently stayed at the Best Western APOLLO in Charlestown (Newcastle) for a 5 night stay for work. I was VERY pleasantly impressed by the hotel and its team. PROS: * rooms were very spacious & quiet * generous parking around the hotel which meant we could park almost outside the room * Free WIFI * Breaky pack option was great given our early departure which precluded access to the buffet breakfast * staff were very pleasant and engaging * balcony was a nice way to relax in the afternoon with the range of birds and bush view * great coffee!! CONS: * limited room service and lunch menu for a hotel with so many rooms * pillows weren't very comfortable... too soft

We arrived after a flight from overseas for a weekend. Upon arrival the bathroom bin was not emptied from the last occupants nor was the shower cleaned properly old soap still in it, hairs covered the floor and toilet. Quite disgusting. Hairs all over bed linen also. Rather disappointed however too tired to complain.

I have stayed here on several occasions (26 nights in 2015) and it just an enjoyable stay ever time. I have just arrived for my first stay this year and the welcome from the staff was just outstanding - they made me feel like one of the family. The rooms are always clean - the beds are very comfortable. Richard, Robin and the front desk staff are great, while Steve leads a terrific team in the food area. They make your trip easy and enjoyable every time.

We (group of 7 in 3 rooms) spent 1 night in Best Western Plus Apollo during the January long weekend. We chose the hotel as many of the other hotels we wanted in Newcastle were either booked or too expensive. This was a good option in the end. Nice new and clean rooms, nice pool, excellent buffet breakfast and friendly staff. Walking distance to the Charlestown mall. About 5-7 minutes by car to the Newcastle city center. Where hotels in Newcastle are booked or beyond budget, this is an excellent option to choose.

Special occasion ... Food was great , staff were helpful and friendly ( someone who can smile during breakfast service would be good),room was good but as it was the honeymoon suite- it was only good. Our only issue was the towels. They were thin to point of holes and all frayed at the edges. For one of the best rooms in the house maybe they should have reasonable towels

Booked online for a short visit to the city. Ended up staying another night. Room was terrific, well appointed. Free wifi as part of the package. Best though was the front desk who could not have been more helpful with hints about eating places and sights in the city. Only had breakfast once.

After 2 nights at the best western at Charlestown I can safely say I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area. The staff were exceptionally friendly efficient and helpful. Our room was lovely. The food and service in the Restraunt were amazing. And we made use of the gym and the pool the team and facilities were all brilliant. A special thanks to Danny for taking such good care of us and giving us all the information we needed on local attractions. Thank you team for making our stay so pleasant.

Stayed in the family room. Great for families as has washing machine that can be used free of charge, swimming pool, great breakfast, small gym for mum and dad. Rooms were clean and beds were ok. Staff very friendly too.

We were in Newcastle to visit family. This hotel suits us, we love the convenience, the friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. Our room was beautifully appointed, clean and fresh. We had a room which was part of a family conclave. You can enjoy the convenience of your own room, then next door is a similar room, but you can close the two rooms off to become your own family suite. Would suit 2 families or a small family travelling with grand parents. You can have your own privacy and get together when it suits you. Great concept. We were greeted with friendly smiles by Reception, Restaurant and Housekeeping Staff every day. Danny in particular was extremely helpful and obliging. Our dining experiences (Breakfast and Room Service) were excellent. Room service was quite quick, I was a bit worried about ordering fish, but it arrived crisp and fresh.

As a family of four with two teenagers girls over twelve, it's getting harder and harder to find accommodation 'as a family'. This hotel hit the mark, accommodating the four of us in a 'family' room, consisting of separate sleeping areas and a balcony. We got excited when we were actually acknowledged by the staff during a busy checkin period, the dimple customer service practise of acknowledging customers and greeting them (& stating that you won't be a moment) appears to have been lost in many businesses, but not here! Then we were asked if we'd like fresh milk for our room (another item commonly left out of other hotels). Rooms have been updated, even though hotel is old, our room was great, roomy, clean. Only issue (& really wasn't an issue) was that we only had 1 roll of toilet paper ( which was quickly corrected) & the bar fridge hadn't been emptied from previous occupant (had half bottle of water in it). Room was great, bed & pillows comfortable, room overlooked greenery and back of hotel, balcony was relaxing with new screen doors. Air con worked, the two tv's n each sleeping area was also handy. We had room service which came with a smile (though the nachos were possibly a little overpriced at $18), but food was good and reasonably quick , Overall a great experience, we will return and well done to the staff for their attention to customer service (especially Danny on front counter, he should be cloned!)

A really great hotel, with very friendly helpful staff. Balcony lovely to sit in while enjoying a drink before dinner. Easy walk to the town. Only criticism if you have a lot of luggage there are quite a few stairs to the rooms.

As always, our room was clean, comfortable and had what we needed. The breakfast at Babbingtons was lovely. However, the wifi signal was not very strong and I ended up exceeding the data allowance on my phone as a result. Staff are always friendly and happy to help

Very few meal options for vegetarian food. Overall not satisfied with food. I ordered a Sandwich for lunch on the go for 07/01/2015 and they gave me Wrap. The worst thing is they gave me a Muesli Bar on 07/01/2015 with expiry date of 01/08/2013. A product which was expired more than two years ago. I pull out from my lunch parcel and gave it back to a reception staff showing an expiry date and she was surprised. (Can be confirmed with a female reception staff at 7:30 am on 07/01/2015) I can't imagine that a 4.5 star hotel has such a low standard and quality of food.

We stayed in an executive king room. The room was huge, spotless and very comfy. Nice shower, very huge and comfortable bed, nice lighting. The onsite pool is quite small and there aren't many sun lounges (5) but we managed to snag 2 in the sun so we were happy! The included buffet breakfast had everything I could want for breakfast too. Friendly reception staff.

Stopped for a night en route to Sydney - the hotel room was neat, tidy and roomy with an outlook into the bush. Was a little surprised when the check in receptionist had to check with her manager that it was OK for two men to share a queen room - it is 2016, we have all moved on from homophobic discrimination haven't we? Otherwise fine as a stopover hotel.

Heaps of free parking, quite a bit of it undercover, bus stop close by, walking distance to good shopping, this is certainly value for money.

So close to Newcastle city... yet half the price of the city hotels! Nice, modern room with bushland views and small balcony. Comfortable king-sized bed and plenty of pillows allow for a great night's sleep. Undercover parking, pool and gym. Friendly reception staff and easy check-in/check-out. Our room rate included buffet breakfast which had a good selection and was eaten in a pleasant, sunny room... again, overlooking the bushland setting. Our stay was in the holiday season, so it was a full house and some guests were not always considerate of others. Also I thought the house-keeping/cleaning could've been a bit better, (leaving an almost empty roll of toilet paper on the holder isn't acceptable... despite doing the "pointy presentation"! But if you want to stay close to Newcastle city but don't want to pay the city price... then this hotel if a good choice! Also great shopping at Charlestown Square and Cinemas are within walking distance.

Really impressed with Danny on Front Desk - his manner was lovely and he made us feel so welcome. The girls love the pool and we are so pleased we made this choice. Rooms are spacious and light, fresh and modern decor. Bathroom is also refreshingly modern and not at all tired. A great place to base ourselves as we explore Newcastle.

Nice size room with a small balcony & air conditioning Bed was comfortable. No bath but Moden room. Walls are thin so you could hear showers, toilets running. There is no view but of trees. You will need to drive to shops or restaurants as the food here is very average

This was the first time we had stayed there and we stayed three nights just before Christmas. We found the room very clean (and it was spotlessly cleaned each day) and spacious with a comfortable bed. We were originally concerned about roadway noise but the rooms are set back from the road and we found the room quiet and well equipped with iron, ironing board, safe, air conditioner and tea making facilities including decaffeinated coffee. Check in was fast, friendly and efficient. It is in an central position to Lake Macquarie area, Stockton beach/Anna Bay beaches, Newcastle a short drive away with a large shopping center just down the road. Breakfast was excellent and you were offered fresh cooked eggs anyway you want them. We are planning to stay there again in the near future.

I have stayed at the Apollo International many times over the last eight years. The hotel is consistently good. The staff are always helpful. No requests were a problem. The rooms are clean and spacious. The location suited me this time. It was between my lunches and dinners with friends. The beaches are minutes away by car. The city of Newcastle is about 15 minutes away. Charlestown Square shopping is an easy ten minute walk from the hotel. This means of course that guests need a car or to use a taxi. That is not unusual. Having a first class restaurant on the premises is a bonus. I recommend Babbingtons for enjoyable meals. I recommend staying at the Apollo International.

Stayed here for 3 nights in a large, well appointed room, overlooking a reserve of mature trees. Despite the closeness of the highway, there was no noise, because the rooms have been placed with no direct proximity to the road. My room had a balcony with a door that could be left open - always better than air-conditioning. I enjoyed a morning coffee watching a Kookaburra sitting on my balcony fence. The bathroom was large, with a walk in shower. Staff were friendly and genuinely welcoming. It was a very pleasant stay.

Went to a work Christmas function and stayed the night at this nicely refurbished property. Pleasant bushland outlook. Food great at dinner and breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. No elevators so if stairs are an issue as fir a room on the reception level or one accessible from back car park. Rooms are large and well appointed with comfortable beds, large walk in shower and flat screen tv. Room service available for limited but reasonable hours. Nice bar and restaurant. All in all a good venue and we enjoyed a pleasant stay.

Visiting newcastle this weekend for our business christmas party and wanted to stay an additional night in town. Booked into apollo international. Upon arrival we were greeted with smiles and offered an upgraded room in the new wing. Beautifully appointed overlooking the tranquil bushland. Room service value for money and even the in room bar very well priced. Well done. Will come back here when we visit again.

We had a wonderful room here for 2 nights, very spacious with fabulous big spotless clean bathroom. The balcony off our room was a wonderful surprise, all set with a table and a couple of chair, looks out onto a beautiful green wooded area right behing the hotel. Screen door on the balcony so you can sleep with the door open and get nice fresh air. Our room was on the back so we had no noise at all. The cafe on site is quite nice serves quite a nice lunch and supper. They have a very nice pool area and complimentary guest laundry. The staff is very helpful and friendly. All in all a great 2 night stay.

Nicely located on the main highway between Charlestown and the city of Newcastle. This establishment has over 90 rooms which are great in size, clean and modern. They also offer complimentary WIFI which has a data limit of 3.5GB, so just handy enough for emails and surfing the web (with no videos). Checkin process was easy with friendly staff offering milk and giving good directions to the room. Overall the hotel is good value. The only downside I found was the car park. I found the spots to be narrow, leaving you to worry if someone will open their doors on your car.

Each time we have stayed over the last few years the service, cleanliness and general appearance have slowly worsened. Housekeeping was particularly poor, with floors not cleaned, bathroom left wet and bed making no more than a quick pull up of the blanket. Not anywhere near the claimed 4.5 star rating.

We did enjoy our stay very much even though it was only for one night. The young lady on reception was very helpfull and pleasant. An assett to your company. The room was clean and tidy but did show signs of people not respecting the room and causing damage. Even though it was on a main road it did not cause us any problem, the room was pretty quiet. I did however find the shower did not drain quickly and the water tended to spread over the bathroom floor. We would be happy to visit this venue again if the oportunity arose.

Our first contact was with staff at check in who were fantastic and helpful. Our room was wonderful with a balcony overlooking the garden and bush beyond which was so serene. We had dinner in the restaurant which was also wonderful and wait staff were very efficient. We were seated at a table overlooking the forest. Would recommend this hotel. The only downfall was they don't have luggage trolleys.

I travel all over the country and internationally with my work, and I always look forward to coming back to the Apollo! The staff are efficient, professional and extremely friendly, The room was amazing!! And spotless. Large, very comfortable, everything you require for a relaxing comfortable stay. The large balcony with beautiful views overlooking the quiet nature strip, and distant sea views, is a great place to relax and unwind with a chilled glass of wine off the menu or out of the fridge. The room service food was 5star!! Every bite was delicious and alway very fresh. I have also dined in the restaurant many times, and have never ever been disappointed with the food or service. I highly recommend the Applo, it is by far one of the best hotels I frequent on my travels.

This was a great place to stay. Very quiet, clean and large room, The staff were very helpful. Beautiful setting. Kookaburra woke me at 5am. I will stay there again for sure. We received an upgrade. A nice clean hotel with really friendly staff and a great restaurant, BUT very very slow wifi and it kept dropping out, half the hotel is looking over the dumpster bins ( you look at them from above) they where over full, looks like they had not been picked up for days ( I was here for two night and they were not picked up ) think they need to be picked up a lot more, this is the second time I have stayed here and it was the same last time .....

We stayed here last night after an all day corporate event. We had done quite a few mile during the day as well as other very taxing activities, followed by a very long evening. On our arrival ( mid after noon) we were greeted with a smile and relaxed, yet professional attitude of the reception staff. our room was spotlessly clean and everything you could possibly need including a comfy bed and a lovely shower and the balcony overlooking the trees was nice. After returning quite late, I needed some things done and Barry at reception could not have been more helpful. We had a buffet breakfast which offered everything you would want and catered for everyone, actually a pleasant surprise was the scones with jam and cream, yum, I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel

Good location for greater Newcastle area. Engaged and friendly staff. Room was nice with all the necessary inclusions Inc wifi which is great. Ate at the restaurant for dinner and was impressed. Service food and value all good. One bit of feedback is that the wine list didn't include many hunter valley drops which I would of thought would be good.

We stayed for a week for a conference at the hotel. Our room was very well appointed, clean and comfortable. The staff at Apollo were extremely helpful and friendly. Really appreciated the undercover parking. The room rate was also very reasonable for the quality of the hotel. Would have liked to spend some time in the pool however we were too busy. Maybe next time.

The room was lovely & clean beds are comfy, they should be very happy with their Housekeeping staff, they do a great job. Getting ready to go out, plugged the iron in & it tripped the whole room out. "302" I would be questioning as to who is tagging these appliances.!!! I also wasn't impressed with the hair I found in my baked beans at breakfast. Cooks are obviously not wearing caps in the kitchen.

Very happy with our stay we were originally only staying one night but changed our mind and stayed two. Hubby wanted a bath so as we were already given our room before we touched anything we rang reception who upgraded us to a family room at no extra cost. Reception are very lovely and polite make you feel welcome. The rooms are beautiful beds are very comfy and spotless. Stayed here twice now will definitely be back.

"Wonderful stay, comfortable beds, lovely restaurant"

We stayed here for 2 separate nights at the beginning and end of our trip to Queensland and we found the hotel excellent. The check-in was quick and easy, plenty of parking and we were able to get a late check out on both nights which was great. Our room was large and spacious with a balcony also. Our continental breakfast was fresh, and there were lots of options. We also had dinner there (Babbington's) one of the nights and found the food excellent, and kids eat free! We found the staff at the restaurant and in the hotel both friendly and accommodating. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return again and recommend the hotel to others.

Great stay, comfortable beds great service and also easy access across Newcastle. Also room is spacious, clean and tidy. Had a nice view of the outside nature. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent and very tasty.

Great location coupled with comfortable and quiet rooms at a reasonable price. Situated on a major road is not a problem with adequate sound proofing and with the beautiful bush outlook at the rear very soothing. It is nice to wake up to the sounds of nature when you decide to let it in.

I stayed here with my family for 1 night in September. There was plenty of parking, a shopping centre is 5 minutes drive away and although it's just off a main road, we didn't hear any traffic noise. We had our own private balcony which had a nice view of bushland. The room was also clean and spacious enough for three people and had free wi-fi. I slept on the sofa bed and while it was comfortable enough - except for the pillows which were far too flat, even for someone who likes flat pillows - it had been made up with a single sheet and possibly the thinnest "blanket" I've ever seen. It was a cold, rainy night, so I used the additional extremely thin "blanket" from the cupboard because the sheets were so inadequate. I still couldn't get warm and subsequently had an awful sleep. I really think this hotel should invest in warmer blankets. The room does have air con - which wasn't turned on as we returned late to the room and went straight to bed - but there should be sufficient blankets without the need for this. The other two family members had a single bed each and slept quite comfortably. My only other comment would be that there is a full length mirror directly opposite the toilet in the bathroom which I found both uncomfortable and weird. Surely there was a better place to put this? Despite this, I would recommend this hotel and would stay here if I'm in Newcastle again as the positives far outweigh the minor negatives I've mentioned.

A relaxing place to unwind after a long day, facilities are great and staff are friendly. If you want to dine out it is not that far to drive or catch a cab to city centre. Rooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. Prices are reasonable for what you get.

Check in was easy and welcoming. Rooms clean and fresh on arrival and stayed that way after servicing daily. I didn't hear traffic or other guests which made sleeping easy. Overall this is a good place to stay for a good price range.

I stayed with my family for 1 night in this hotel/motel. Room was very good, beds were comfortable, wifi was ok. Really nice. If we come to Lake Macquarie area, we will definetely stay here. We got under cover parking close to the lift. All the facilities seems new and well maintained

I stayed for 3 nights while on business & this place provided everything needed: - a room (larger than a shoebox) - a clean room and bathroom - comfortable bed - quiet - desk to do work (desk could have been bigger, but was OK) - check in and check out was effortless - staff were polite and efficient

Internet didn't work, staff stated rainy weather was interfering with internet. The shower pressure was low possibly due to being given a handicap room, kept awake at night and early in morning by an entrance door adjacent to room banging from people entering and leaving. Kept awake by cleaners talking and vacuuming in corridor in morning.
