If you are expecting the BW free breakfast, you won't get it here. We don't go to a hotel because the free breakfasts are so scrumptious, we go for the consistency and the convenience. Here, they sell coffee, microwaved breakfast sandwiches and pancake bits, fruit cups and yogurt all for 5 bucks a pop. Nobody was in the eating area, so this stuff probably has a low turnover rate. Kind of sad, really. If it were a restaurant with fresh cooked food, we would have ordered. You can get this stuff across the street at the gas station. The hotel itself was very nice. Clean and pleasant rooms. Good staff.
Clean and updated hotel, staff and food were great. Bed was comfy with lots of pillows. there were also a couple of good restaurants right next door, Outback and a seafood restaurant that looked nice. Right off the freeway so good for passing through.
My past experiences at this location have been great. This is my normal choice when in the area. In all my years of traveling this is the 1st time I have experienced hotel staff entering my room even with my privacy sign posted. My trust has been broken and the manager showed no concern and only expressed multiple times they have the right.... my stay was 2 nights and This occurred after 1 night, i am having a hard time understanding why the felt they had cause to invade my privacy. Caution to all travelers before booking reservations at a hotel ask about your privacy rights.
We had several rooms for a family reunion at this hotel. My kids and grandkids were disrupted while trying to get ready for bed for the night. When looking out the window, they saw 4 police cars, 3 fire trucks, and 2 ambulances in the parking lot. The fire alarm never went off. (it was blinking in the hall). My daughter had tried to call the front desk twice and no one answered. A police office banged on their door and said to evacuate the building. People were saying that it was an electrical fire. There was smoke in the pool area and it remained closed that night and Sunday morning as well. They were evacuated in the parking lot for an hour. I've reached out to the hotel several times and was told by the hotel manager that this incident didn't warrant any compensation.
Wow this hotel is definitely an upscale version of the Best Western chain. Beautiful and value for the money was exceptional. Missed “breakfast included” but small disadvantage! Great location to the airport. Will be looking for more BW PREMIER again!
I highly recommend this hotel because it's very clean all of the worker are very friendly plus it have a nice big pond in back on the building. The only negative things I can say about this hotel no freshly cooked breakfast and no lounge if you looking to have a cocktail before heading into the room.
We stay at this hotel every July for the Good Guys car show. The parking lot of large to accommodate. And the staff is very helpful and friendly. The longe area is great for hanging out.
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel since it was opened a few years ago. The stays were always positive and we have told friends about how nice it was. However, the GM (Scott) retired a week ago and almost overnight all the positives turned negative. We arrived to find that the flat sheet had two large holes (one on each side). I went to the front desk lady and she handed me a sheet and told me that they had no one to change it therefore I was going to have to do that myself. I refused and she finally came down and did change it. Our room was not cleaned once the entire stay plus on the 3rd night not only was the room not touched ( even though we had requested it and put the sign on the door) we were told there were no towels at all available in the entire hotel. The lady stated that she had requested our room to be cleaned and her cleaning lady said it had been done ( I took the front desk lady to the room to show her that it had not been touched) so she said the cleaning lady lied to her. She then stated that none of the housekeeping help spoke any english at all so I then asked her then how did the lady lie to her? The breakfast that once was free is now pay only. This is really too bad because the location and our stays had always been great. Time to find someplace else.
Rooms very clean, lobby and hallways clean and smelled good too, nice art work throughout, coffee wasn't the greatest and you have to buy breakfast.
Seems like there should have been some type of breakfast included for this price. Bathroom floor was not spotless. Bed and linens were excellent and I liked the large room. The bath mirror did not have excellent lighting for doing makeup. I liked the various common sitting areas.
I'm a veteran who has stayed here a few times, due to visiting an other veteran and buddy. He has stage 4 cancer and I have been staying in hotel to chat with him and just help him any way possible. I am a cancer patient myself. I take chemo pills daily. I drive 6 hours to see him and stay in this hotel. This time I could not make it due to being nauseated and dizzy I calf at 3:00 pm and told them I had to stop short and could not make it tonight. They charged me $190 and would not refund it due to 24 hour policy. I think when policy iver rides common sense. We need to stop doing business with that company as veterans.
Not a bad place but nothing special and no breakfast. Room was nice and area is great. Limited help but desk clerk was very nice. Hotel is rated a 2 compared to others in the area but is a nice place they just have made bad management decisions. If the others are full stay here if not skip this one
Terrible customer service, broken outlets/tvs, no amenities. Front desk woman with the giant eyebrows is extremely rude. Please do not bring your family here if safety is a concern. They do not care about their customers.
I went into this with low expectations. This is a 3-star hotel that I snagged for $93 a night. But I just needed a place to crash for a couple nights as I helped my mom move into a new apartment. I was very impressed with the friendly staff, and it was clear it has been updated relatively recently. The entire place was very clean, bed & pillows comfortable, soft towels. Mini fridge in room worked very well (a problem in many hotels). The thermostat was a little tricky to figure out (a short instruction guide would be nice), but the HVAC was incredibly quiet, and this wasn't really a big deal. Being a light sleeper, I was worried about noise being so close to the interstate, but it wasn't an issue at all. Next time I'm in town I won't look around, I will definitely stay here again. Five stars because it's a great value for the money!
Extremely comfortable bed. The staff is very professional, courteous & friendly & the hotel rooms are always clean & comfortable to stay in. I have stayed at this hotel 3 nights a week for the last four months for business & I have never had a bad experience.
Great place for the money paid . Disappointed with snacks available to purchase and “restaurant “ on premises. View is beautiful overlooking a pond ; restaurants next door; lots of shops nearby - overall , great stay
The room was clean and spacious. The decor was modern and appealing. The bed was very comfortable. The shower was large. The hotel was quiet. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay again!
booked months ago had a free breakfast when booked, when we arrived the free breakfast was discontinued. Same price though. Cheaper hotels offer a free breakfast-stay there instead when we left to pay our bill we were told the computers were down . still waiting for a copy
We stayed 2 nights at $170 per night cost.. .we just assumed they would have a free breakfast..WRONG..were told we could PURCHASE one from a menu..NO room service untill 3 days but thankfully I went to the lobby desk and requested towels and garbage pick up..NO lobby coffee but were able to make in room..sad Laquinta next door has free breakfast for $144 per night.. lesson learned :(
Great location, nicely kept property. Very clean and comfortable. i just happened on it by chance and am very glad I did. I get to Des Moines about 4 times a year, and will rebook here without a doubt
Staff was kind and attentive. Property very clean and guest rooms comfortable. This place is nice and for the price you can't beat it. Beautiful area and good location. Close to everything! Will make this my go to hotel when in the area.
Nice looking property with nice rooms. The breakfast is ok if you want just want some bar eggs and toast. Pool is very small but warm. Can become packed quickly. The rooms are nice and clean with nice beds, but walls are thin and can hear the neighbors. Also the bathroom doors are sliding barn doors with large gaps to see into bathroom so don't count on any privacy. Friendly staff with nice lounge are and view of small pond.
Beautiful grounds, great view of the water. One of the cleanest rooms I have had. Housekeeping every day, most hotels only do it every few days now. Well maintained! I would definitely stay again. Kudos to your staff.
Chose this hotel and premium rate based on the amenities listed on the website, our paid rate, and confirmation. There is not complimenting breakfast which was the biggest disappointment. The room was fine, basic, clean. Skimpy on toiletries, and coffee service. Low lighting in bathroom with barn door that does not close.
I have stayed at Best Western hotels 11 times in the past 8 months. They are usually my go-to, but no longer. After I checked in I asked where breakfast would be served and where I could find the complementary coffee. It was after I checked in that I was informed they no longer offer complementary breakfast or coffee. After showing the staff the website on my computer--where it clearly states they offer complementary breakfast and coffee--I was simply told they were trying a new upscale breakfast where I have the unique privilege of purchasing better breakfast and coffee. The fact is, this was the only option. I spoke with the hotel owner and showed him the hotel details which were clearly printed on the Best Western website where it shows complementary breakfast and coffee offered. He did nothing. I was charged the full amount and nothing was done. I was lied to. There is no other way say it. Beware.
Booked this hotel due to the fact it had complimentary breakfast, cocktails in the lounge and coffee in the lobby. When we arrived and checked in, we were told breakfast starts at 6am and is made to order. We were given a menu and prices. The breakfast isnt free. Asked why, the clerk said we change it on Monday. We no longer have complimentary breakfast. We were also told no coffee in the lobby, only in our rooms. I ask why and the hotel desk clerk said no one utilized it so they removed it. Asked where was the bar, and was told its not open yet. Asked what time and the answere was "don't know". Basically no bar/cocktails. I booked this hotel because of these reasons and because its a Premier hotel. False advertisement. See pictures below. I called the customer complaint telephone number and spoke to corporate. In return we received a breakfast voucher, 2 bottles of water, and points credits as we are reward members. We stayed in BW Plus for a lot cheaper and better amenities. Until they change back to free breakfast and coffee in the lobby, and cocktails. I will not be going back. Not a premier hotel if you ask me....
This was my first time staying at BWP and I have zero complaints. Staff was amazing, pool was heated and relaxing, great work out center, computers and a printer to print out boarding passes… all in all I will stay here every single time I come to Ankeny!
The first 2 days our room was very warm. The sweet young lady at the desk did get us a box fan, which did help. The gentleman who worked at night was never at the desk and when you rang the bell, he looked like he had been sleeping. Also get at the breakfast early, if you arrive at 30 minutes before closing, all of the food was cold and sitting off to the side. Everything had been cleaned up and no one was around.
Over all very nice hotel, very clean well kept, was very busy ball team staying there wonderful area, right next door to a very good sea food restaurant nice to just walk there, hotel situated on water, beautiful view from our window over looking it, would stay there again when in area.
Very helpful check in person. The room was nice but had some flaws. The microwave door opens about 2" so you have to force it open against the cabinet to use it. The bathroom fan grill was dust-clogged, as was the vent grill in the room. And the shower caulk was discolored and unpleasant looking, It was wonderful to have ample lighting in the room (somewhat rare)! Nice breakfast (although I'd have liked some cold water to drink). The seating area was comfortable and had a lovely view. The room where the food was had an amazingly loud heating fan, but the dining area was normally quiet. The bathroom shelves under the sink were quite dusty. The WiFi speed was not bad and not great - about 15Mbs.
This place is very clean (seems brand new) and the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. It is pretty solid (some footfall sound briefly from upstairs but might have just been a "stomper" because brief and geographically isolated, not throughout). Bed is very comfy (and I am a fuss-budget in this category due to "bad" back).
The photos online do not do this place justice nor the exterior of the building. This hotel is very clean and updated. I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast had hot options which I appreciate but close at 9:00, I work overnight and travel for my job so some days it was closing by the time i arrived (I understand this is not a issue for most). You can tell the front desk employees enjoy their jobs and greet you with a smile.
Staff friendly and helpful. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Exercise room good. Pool was clean, could of been a little warmer. Breakfast was excellent. Will definitely stay again.Checking in and out was very easy.
I get so tired of dark hotels! This place is about perfect in location, cleanliness, service and room layout but it's dark!!! The vanity has a lame backlight for the ent area. Charge me more but give me light. And that's the only reason for a 3 Amen
New, clean, great modern decor. SUPER friendly staff, comfortable rooms, quiet. Breakfast is basic but satisfactory for weekends. More variety on Monday. Easy access to freeway and restaurants, shopping
Staff were very helpful and switched my room right away when the TV was broken. However, the rooms were not vacuumed and still had some trash sitting on a chair. I also was unable to connect to wifi during my stay.
We stayed here for one night. The room was spotless, comfortable and roomy. There was ample parking and a nice seafood restaurant next door. The breakfast was ample with some hot options. The pool was small but nice for a quick dip. Ashley was exceptionally helpful when I lost my cell phone as I was checking out. She offered to help me go through the room to find my phone, which was above and beyond the call of duty. I would eagerly stay here again and recommend this location.
I changed my plans last minute and found a decent price here. What a great surprise, the hotel was great. Location was great, very well kept, clean, staff friendly, beds very comfortable, shower was a walk in with great pressure and instant hot water. Breakfast was decent, waffles or pancakes would be a suggestion. Our TV went out one night I reported for the next person and received money off. Nice surprise. I will stay here again when I'm back in the area.
Took my 5 grandkids to Adventureland and a few other places in the Des Moines area. The reviews on this hotel were some of the best I had read so I tried it. It is good. Very clean and nice front desk people. I had no problems at all. The kids went swimming every day and the water was warm, which was a big plus for them. They have pool towels by the pool so you don't have to use your room towel. The room was clean and the public areas were clean. The breakfast area was kept clean and refreshed during breakfast hours. The breakfast was the usual scrambles eggs, sausage and toast but also had cereal, yogurt and fruit. Kids missed pancakes. We got a multiple night stay so the discount was nice. Had a room with 2 queens and a fold out sofa and it worked fine. Still just enough room for suitcases, etc. People very nice. I would stay here again if I needed to stay in this area.
This property is well located. The rooms are large and clean. The beds, pillows, and linens are comfortable. It was disappointing that the cocktail lounge was closed, but the Outback near by has a bar. The breakfast at this hotel is inedible. Luckily there is a Casey's within a 2 minute walk.
This has to be the newest hotel in the loop on this Ankeny exit. Very modern, stylish, impeccably clean, quiet rooms, quality beds. Also great view of the conned and nice landscaping make for a peaceful stay rather than staring out the window at a parking lot or interstate highway. Someone went the extra step to make this more than an overnight Hotel experience.
I was greeted by staff and quickly checked in. My room was clean, bed was comfortable. Breakfast choices were a mix of hot food, pastries, yogurt, coffee and drinks. Hotel is close to restaurants and shopping. Will definitely stay here again when in town.
This was our 3rd time staying at this Ankeny Premier Best Western. It's always clean, and we enjoy the large room. We also like the cozy lounge areas in the lobby for gathering with friends. The location is good especially if you are cyclists looking for an amazing paved trail network to ride on.
Friendly Staff, Very Clean, and New Fresh Rooms! Had a few minor request that were met promptly and friendly. I have no complaints. It was a great stay and would highly recommend Best Western Premier!
Very nice looking hotel, lots of higher end furnishings. the King bed was firm, but not like a board, good night of sleep for us. For a premier brand hotel iI was expecting less noise between floors, If we had chosen to sleep-in past 9am we would have been awaken by the vacuum being used in the room above us. The breakfast was a hot breakfast, but they ran out of scrambled eggs and sausage by 8:30am, but there were other good options. I would have given all excellent rating except for the noise issue between floors in the morning.
If it wasn't for the uncomfortable, restless sleep on a too firm bed, we would stay again. Hotel appearance, staff and breakfast were great! But sleeping comfortably is too important. I wish the beds were softer so we could stay again.
Looking for a clean, modern, comfortable place to stay in Ankeny. This is the hotel whether for business or leisure, while traveling as a couple or family. Conveniently right off of I35 exit and easy to access. Beautiful pond in front of hotel is nice feature. We stay here because of the above-mentioned amenities. Great staff who are friendly and efficient.
Clean facilities, friendly staff, ease of check in. Good breakfast although a bit sparse due to Covid. Room clean and all items in good working order. New or recently upgraded, fresh and clean appearance. Would stay again.
One of the best BW we've ever stayed at. Modern facility, clean, great hot breakfast, very helpful staff. We inquired about the kind of beds they have because it was so comfortable. My husband said we need to get one of these for home. Front desk thinks they are made by Serta. Will be shopping around! Thank you for a great stay!
The new Best Western Premier in Ankeny is upgraded in every way. It is state of the art in amenities and decor. Generally speaking, you can't get a hotel for under $100, and this is no exception, but this hotel is less than the other chain hotels in the area while not sacrificing amenities.
I have stayed at a few BW hotels in the past but this one by far has been the nicest! Check in was super easy and the front desk staff was pleasent and helpful. The hotel was immaculate! Our room was spacious and VERY clean, beds were also very comfortable. The back patio was awesome to sit by the fire and relax after a long day @ The Iowa State fair. They had a huge Caseys gas station walking distance to the hotel which was nice to grab some snacks and a breakfast pizza. Due to Covid they had a grab and go breakfast which was fine. If we are back in town we will definitely stay @ this BW again!!
This hotel is absolutely great. Our room was beautiful and spotless. Loved the seafood restaurant next door, which was recommended by the hotel desk staff. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area.
We will definitely be staying at this hotel on future trips through this region. Wonderful, new facility. Helpful staff. Good location with easy access to many restaurants. Breakfast at this time is still a grab and go.
There were several family and many friends who stayed at this hotel and management was very accomadating for all of us. The hotel provided a place to where we could gather for visting in the mornings and evenings also an outdoor lounge area for the children to play and enjoy the nice weather. The hotel has a modern decore, rooms were clean, the breakfast was not the best, but I'm sure this will be rectified.
We stay here at least twice a year as we travel to/from MN and AR. This weekend we stayed there on both ways of the trip. They never disappoint. The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is always helpful and quick at checking us in and out. The breakfast is handy for road warriors because they have enough options for grab and go. High recommend staying here especially with a family!
Would recommend to anyone, very nice motel. Had good service, clean rooms overall excellent! Breakfast was so-so, but understand because of Covid. No complaints at all otherwise. Will be going there again for sure.
Our stay at BWP Ankeny Hotel was pleasant and easy in every way. We did miss having breakfast there, but understand, during the pandemic, why it wasn't available. There is a very nice walking path next to the hotel which I used to stretch my legs after a long trip. The shower was lovely after each of our days' bike rides! The comfort was just what we needed.
We stayed here for one night while we spent two days at adventurland. The hotel staff were very friendly. I called ahead to see if we could leave one of our vehicles in the parking lot and just take one vehicle to Adventureland and they were okay with that since we were staying. They took down the type of car (they have issues with employees from Adventureland parking there). Check in was pleasant and easy. Rooms were comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was good in the morning. The second day we left both vehicles in the parking lot because we figured we could walk over instead of sitting in line for an hour to get out. Would definitely stay here again.
This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at over years of traveling! The check in/out was quick & easy, the lobby was beautiful, room was clean & well decorated, & pool was nice! We didn't get a chance to check out the continental breakfast. I will definitely be back, if ever in the Ankeny area again!!
We stayed here just one night in June of 2021, on the way home to Colorado from Pennsylvania. When I made the reservation, I didn't have high expectations. I thought this would be an average Best Western experience. Instead, we had a very nice room in a much nicer than average hotel. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the beds were comfortable, the WiFi was good, it was VERY quiet, the shower was exceptionally nice, the temperature controls were easy to use and worked great, and there was an excellent seafood restaurant located right next door. I suppose my only complaint was the "grab and go" breakfast, which was a packaged muffin and a bottle of water. Of course, with COVID restrictions still in place, almost none of the places we stayed had hot breakfast. Still, I thought the hotel could have been a bit more creative in this regard. This place was also an excellent value for the money, compared to the other places that we stayed on our journey. I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
Staff here are very nice and helpful. Very clean and up to date. Beds are super comfortable. Rooms are some of the best I have ever stayed in. This is the second time I have stayed. I will be back……..
Sorry, I'm not giving this place a 5, mainly because they still do not have the bar open, and only offer grab and go breakfasts. The coffee offered there is some of the worse hotel coffee I've ever had, and this is coming from someone that has stayed at over 60+ nights so far this year already. Location is good, and there really isn't much road noise from the interstate! The room is very nice with a nice walk-in shower! Because the bar was not open, they were suggesting going next door to the seafood joint to their bar, but yet, not offering any discounts to do so.
Our stay was welcoming. Staff was friendly and helpful. Facility was clean and quiet. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The was a hospice trip with my father. He slept well as the beds were comfortable.
This hotel was as close as we could find to the Ames Iowa graduation, our destination. It is very clean, beautifully decorated (lobby and rooms), and has a lovely view of a pond/small lake. It was full, but surprisingly quiet. It has a pool and fitness center plus covered picnic tables beside the lake/pond, and nice outdoor walking area. The bed was good and the shower really great. - very large space with very good shower head. Staff, day and night time was very pleasant and helpful. (We were there 5/7&8/21.) The breakfast was eggs and sausage, cereals, yogurt, fruit, baked goods, orange juice, but no waffles with toppings, sad to say. There were many spaces in and nearby the breakfast room to eat and socially distance.
We visited this new property the end of March 2021. It was professionally decorated and had a very nice and contemporary feel. The lobby, gas fireplaces and seating areas were all so cozy. Rooms were very nice. The restaurant was, unfortunately, not open due to COVID. Grab and go breakfast's were a disappointment but coffee was provided all day. Outside gas fireplace table and sofas were beneficial for our family corn hole tournaments outside in the chilly night air. We didn't have time for the pool or gym, and wished we did as both facilities looked nice. Scott and his staff provided a great overall experience at this property with being so friendly and helpful. If ever in the area again, we will definitely come back to this property.
Staff was nice, hotel was clean and could tell it was newer. Pool is a little small though. Went while there were still restrictions on breakfast so I can't comment on that. Having 200 character minimum is dumb, I'm not trying to write a book TripAdvisor...
Apparently someone got into my room with an animal that crapped and urinated and threw up on my bed floor and my clothing. Got transferred to a different room manager could care less was very rude and not helpful. No compensation for clothing! I will never return.
The hotel was really nice, only thing I had an issue with was the breakfast. I stay in a hotel at least 200 nights a year and have been traveling quite a bit for work. During the pandemic I have seen what hotels in the area and across the Midwest have to offer for breakfast and this was very minimal to say the least. They offer a paper bag with muffins as an option along with a bottled water. I've stayed at other hotels in the Des Moines area and they have a lot better options for breakfast even during the pandemic then what you get offered here at the Beat Western. If they're going to skimp on their breakfast I would ask for a lower room rate. Besides that if they can fix their breakfast or if breakfast doesn't matter to you then I would say this is a nice property.
We had left our car keys in the room, the maids found them the front desk staff put the found keys into the system but the own denied having them until corporate stepped and he now says he will return them... after we had to get the car towed... It USED to be a nice friendly hotel but recently over half the staff quit because of the owner.
This was a beautiful hotel with modern decor and furnishings! My kids said "wow this is the best hotel ever". Mind you they are 9 and 11 but I agreed with them wholeheartedly. It was extremely clean, full direct tv channel selection and very friendly staff. Would reroute trips a little to stay there.
This hotel is right off of a body of water and has an amazing view. The hotel has the appearance of a brand new hotel with all the modern amenities. Several fire places and relaxing areas with the view of the body of water and plenty of visually stimulating artwork. The room was spacious with high quality building materials like marble and a huge glass door walk in shower. I won't forget how good the room smelled when I walked in. I travel across the US and stay only at BW and this hotel was in my top 3!
stayed here for work, was a very clean, neat, quiet hotel. The rooms were clean, modern, bed was comfortable and pillows were super nice. Outside patio/lounge with seating overlooking a pond was nice to get out of the room and hangout outside.
Let me start by saying our visit was during the pandemic so amenities were limited. And even though it was early September, it rained and was cold our entire stay, so we could not use the outdoor amenities either. I found the hotel to be very modern and very clean. The lobby was very clean and comfortable, and had we been able to have the included breakfast, I'm sure it would have been nice. The area had a nice view of the pond outside. Instead, we had coffee and a “go bag” a choice of packaged donuts, muffin or breakfast bar, and a bottle of water. The room was nice, we had a king room the looked over the water. It was a very quiet room. The bathroom was very nice, the mirror was one of those no fog mirrors, the shower was a walk in with plenty of pressure. Towels were nice and it was clean. Plenty of lamps and lights and outlets for charging devices. Large lcd tv. Mini fridge and microwave, coffee maker. The only thing i didn't like, and it's just a personal choice, was the bathroom door was a sliding barn door and I felt a lack of privacy. There was a nice pool, we could have used, but didn't, and I'm not sure if the gym was available because of Covid. There was a small bar/lounge that was only available for takeout again due to the pandemic. There was a nice outdoor seating area that had seating and a fire pit with a view of the water, not sure if that was available. We did not, because it was raining and cold during our September visit. The hotel location was in a cluster with many hotels to choose from. There is a Casey's (a quick mart with gas) in walking distance. There is also an seafood restaurant (don't remember the name) and a Outback Steakhouse that we ate at one night and it was delicious!! The hotel was also located near a major road and there is PLENTY of shopping and restaurants very close. All in all, I was happy with the hotel, and will probably stay again next year when we visit family. And HOPEFULLY all this pandemic stuff will be passed.
In general, Best Western is a very nice, clean, and friendly hotel-chain. Their Premier level is a game changer, though. This is one of the nicest business-class hotels I have ever stayed in. The ground were immaculate. My room was huge. And, Best Western has some of the best COVID-19 protocols in the hotel industry.
Visited Best Western Premier in Ankeny, IA on August 7, 2020. Very Nice Place(it's a year and a half old) plenty of restaurants nearby, and plenty of free parking. The problem with this hotel is it is very cheaply constructed . You hear every little noise in the hallway and the floors above you. We had to finally complain about the noise above us on the fourth floor to get them to quiet down. The next morning same thing happened, sounded like a herd of elephants above us. The lady in late afternoon seemed to to take things seriously. (Rules, masks , etc) A male who took our 1st complaint call at 10 pm . We got up at 7am and listened to kids above us jumping around so at 8 am we called and talked to a male at front desk. He didn't have any new solutions other than calling the room to ask them to quiet down. When we checked out and had a face to face conversation he seemed a bit more serious about addressing the problem. Buyer beware. Great location and nice place but very cheaply built.
We stayed here with our kids for a youth baseball weekend. The room we stayed in was a double queen with plenty of space for our family of 5 an all the kids gear. Room and facilities are very clean and modern. It has an amazing patio area next to the pool for adults to wind down and kids to run around. The staff, especially Will were all very friendly and helpful. We are definitely staying here again.
Our daughters live in the Des Moines area so when their children are staying with them for the weekend, then we stay in a hotel while visiting. We've stayed in Best Western in Altoona a few times, but prefer the accommodations at the Ankeny Best Western. Always very quiet there even when they are just off of the Interstate. it's in between our children and very close to a lot of shopping areas!
We love this hotel and come here as we drive through to MN. They are extra clean and have made the experience as touch-screen as possible. They also provide a simple grab-and-go breakfast with a water and bar/cinnamon roll/Danish option. We felt safe and clean.
I've stayed in some supposed 4-star hotels that didn't hold a candle to this BWP. Very modern, clean, spacious, quiet and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating; although due to COVID-19 affects and BLM protest curfew, the common area facilities such as pool and breakfast area were closed not to mention very few people staying or most anywhere in the area. When I checked in I was told there would be a “to-go” bag with breakfast items. In the morning there was nothing but coffee in the lobby.
The hotel was clean and fresh looking. Unfortunately, due to my stay being during the pandemic, there were no amenities available to me. The lobby and breakfast area looked nice even though unavailable for use. The room was great! The staff was super friendly and helpful. I will return to this hotel when visiting family there again in the future!
This is a really nice hotel for the area. Easy checkin and out. Covid-19 stopped the breakfast so we did not use. The room was very nicely decorated and the shower had excellent pressure. We would definitely stay here again.
This hotel was extremely clean and the price was amazing! The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious and perfect for relaxing! The bathroom was spotless! The staff members were all very friendly and courteous. I would highly recommend staying here if you are needing a hotel stay around the Des Moines area!
This property was extremely clean. They have a minimum 72 hour vacancy protocol between renting the room out. Although all the amenities were shut down it was very clean and kept up. The beds were extremely comfortable. We will stay here again our next trip.
Being a best western employee I absolutely enjoyed this stay. The hotel was unbelievably beautiful. It was very modern. The entire hotel from the lobby to the room was very clean. The staff was wonderful and welcoming. They were very helpful whenever needed. This is a new hotel and it was very well kept. I look forward to visiting again and staying here.
Picked this motel because it had electric vehicle charging. Will return. Spacious rooms, exceptionally clean, bright lobby, courteous staff. Visited during Covid outbreak— motel staff taking precautions and watching out for well being of guests. This motel was a upgrade over Holiday Inn Express and Courtyard by Marriott.
This hotel is gorgeous. The exterior, interior, & the rooms. We didn't get to enjoy all it offers but it has a restaurant, bar & little shop of amenities. We stayed for a dance competition & will be staying again. Can't wait actually. One of my favorite hotels we've ever stayed at.
Beautiful hotel with fantastic amenities!! Highly recommend! The room was spacious, bathroom was modern and beautiful. Had a great time visiting with friends in the lounge. If you are visiting the Des Moines area, book here!
We brought a group of wrestlers and their families to the hotel during AAU state. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. Breakfast was outstanding and the rooms were comfortable and clean. We will definitely be back!
The rooms were spacious and the hotel was clean. I was happy to know there was a fridge in the room as we were staying 2 nights. Got back to the room on the 2nd night and our food had been tampered with and half of it had been eaten. Not a great experience overall.
This hotel is nice. It is new so very clean. A bit annoyed, I tipped the cleaning lady and asked for extra coffee so she gave me two. My biggest gripe is that I was trying to book my room and the website defaulted to a different date. As soon as I saw the problem I called the hotel. They said they couldn't help me so I called their corporate office and they said they could not help me and the hotel was lying. So back to the hotel and they said corporate was lying. So I am out my money and all I wanted was to change my reservation. There are plenty of other hotels to choose from.
What a great hotel all around. Upon entry into the hotel, we were wowed by the modern decor for a BW brand hotel. Check in was smooth and quick. Entering the room was just as impressive for decor and cleanliness. Our room overlooked the pond outside which was half frozen and had many geese. The bed was comfortable and provided a very restful sleep. In the morning, breakfast was very good and what one is expecting at a hotel there days. I would absolutely stay here again when staying in the area.
This is a beautiful hotel. The rooms were quiet and nice, the beds were comfortable, the lobby was beautiful, the pool was nice with an outdoor patio and fire pit. However--the hotel is understaffed. When we arrived on a Friday evening around 7 p.m. there was no one at the front desk. Come to find out, there was only one person staffing the hotel trying to trouble shoot room problems, check in guests and run the "bar" area. Not sure if someone called in sick or what. The next morning was busy as it was homecoming weekend for Iowa State. Two people were at the front desk, but only one person was staffing the busy breakfast area. That being said---the staff who were there were polite, helpful and working hard to try to stay on top of everything. They just needed more help. Breakfast was disappointing. Food ran low due to a busy hotel and only one person running breakfast on a Saturday morning. Two yogurt machines ran out as well---this concept seems ridiculous to me. Just offer individual yogurt cups or large refrigerated bowls of yogurt. New pancake machine was slow and broke down by the end of the breakfast. Seems like it would make more sense to have a hot buffet pan full of pancakes. Overall food was average. Room was not made up. We did receive fresh towels, but that was it. I would stay here again, but I hope that management will consider additional staffing for service quality and safety.
This is the nicest Best Western I have ever stayed at. It's modern with a cool lobby and bar. Guest rooms are modern and the LED bathroom mirror is pretty sweet. Barn door leaves a little to be desired for privacy but it's a nice touch. Looks cool. Beds are super comfy and a huge TV. There's a kick ass patio with fire pit over looking the lake as well. Great ambience
Went to a wedding in Ankeny. Great prices on the room. Beautiful motel and the room was decorated very nice. Beds extremely comfortable and we loved the walk in shower. So nice to not have to navigate trying to get in and out of a tub shower.
My son's wedding was in Ankeny so our entire family and many wedding guests stayed here. The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful and accommodating changes to reservations and helped some extend their stay. Clean hotel with great amenities and great atmosphere.
Rooms available for sleeping 6, good breakfast, clean spaces, friendly staff. Convenient location close to interstate with easy access to a quick trip to ISU, close to Target and other shopping/restaurants.
PROS: Great hotel, very clean and modern. Best coffee I have EVER had in any hotel. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Loved, Loved, Loved their large outside patio. CONS: We stayed for 2 days and had a couple things that we felt should have been better maintained. Food in the breakfast area ran out and not always refilled immediately. All the bathroom stalls on the lobby floor were ALWAYS out of toilet paper. Soap was gone in the dispenser in the women's. When we went down for breakfast, we always had to carry our own toilet paper. Maybe not enough staff? A DEFINITE con.
Totally enjoyed the hotel!! The rooms are awesome!! The breakfast is awesome and they have great coffee!! Nice pool!!! The lobby bar is fun and relaxing!!! They have a great patio area with a fire place that was very enjoyable!!! Superior guest service!!!
A surprisingly nice hotel in the middle of, frankly, a rather run down section of a fairly untraveled state (except during election season, where you can't swing a dead rat without hitting 27 politicians which just embarrasses the rat). Clean, comfortable rooms make this a easy choice for repeat stays. Conveniently located just off I35. However, don't expect breakfast unless you are one of the first ones in the lobby. The staff apparently feels that such things as coffee, milk, and juice are not to be restocked. If the staff bestir themselves long enough to cook, the sausage and potatoes are tasty. Otherwise, the breakfast buffet looks like a plague of locusts wandered through, leaving only empty serving dishes and carafes in their wake.
The staff was wonderful and very helpful. I reserved 2 rooms for our large family and they were very accommodating w/ making sure our rooms were next to each other. Breakfast had a good variety. The hotel was nice and clean. There was a beautiful area behind the hotel w/ nice seating and an area to play corn hole. I usually don't sleep well at hotels but I slept great. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. We will be staying here on our next trip!
This was hands down the best value for any hotel stay we have had in quite some time. You won't find a nicer hotel for twice the money. New construction, clean rooms, nice breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel!!
We enjoyed a 2-night stay at this property and it was much nicer than I anticipated. The lobby and rooms are modern with wood and metal decor. The guestroom bath has nice detail with a lighted mirror and frameless rolling glass shower doors. The double queen room was very clean and included a large leather pull-out couch. Our kids enjoyed the pool and the adults spent time out on the large back patio. Having a free breakfast was another great bonus. Overall, a great place to stay right off the interstate!
You'd never guess it, but this Best Western is as nice as any Hilton or Marriott I've stayed in. Very modern and unique with a high end appeal. I enjoyed my stay very much. Friendly staff. The beds were very comfortable and the LED mirrors in the bathroom were very cool!
We were set to close on a Monday. Mortgage co delayed it 2 days and we had to be out of our place Monday. We felt like we were on vacation at this hotel. My parents had stayed at this hotel in April and loved it. I see why.
We were in town unexpectedly and were fortunate enough to find a room at the last minute. The staff was warm, welcoming, and very understanding. We had a few minor issues upon check in, but everything was corrected above our expectations. After four days we discovered that we had to extend our stay and both Britany and Alyssa went out of their way to accommodate us. The hotel itself is clean, rooms well appointed, and breakfast plentiful. Many thanks to the staff for your impeccable service in a trying time.
The hotel was very, very nice. The room was amazing, modern, clean and classy looking. Each concern was addressed immediately (printer was running low on toner- they replaced immediately). They had a baseball tournament book the hotel well over 100 kids :( and they were loud. But the hotel made sure they observed quiet hours, they offered to move me to a quieter part of the hotel. It has a strong nature and woodland feel with a modern twist. The downside the acoustics in the lobby are terrible if 5-6 people are talking you feel you are at a stadium and can hardly hear. The breakfast buffet is underwhelming does not remain stocked and taste very instant (eggs). But I would definitely stay here again.
This is a relatively new modern feel hotel near Des Moines and Adventure Land. This hotel has very helpful staff, clean rooms and a wonderful daily breakfast. I highly recommend this little gem and will return when out in Iowa.
This hotel was beautiful and very modern. It is decorated wonderfully. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Our stay was great!! I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. We will look for Best Westerns in our future travels.
We stayed at the Best Western for a weekend wedding. We used the 2 queen family room, which included a pull out sofa. The room was very nice, but the beds were too soft for our liking; our heads sunk in and the rest of our body felt like we were laying on a slant with our feet at the top of the slant. Besides that though, it was great! The breakfast in the morning was fantastic, the staff was kind and helpful, the room and facilities were very clean and modern and we didn't hear any of the guests around us or in the halls, even though it seemed to be quite full that evening. We would highly recommend staying here (if you are ok with the soft bed).
Stayed for a wedding... Friday and Saturday nights. Front desk was unattended when we arrived and had to wait for staff to appear. The hotel was busy and we could hear a lot of people running the hallways & slamming doors between 10-11pm. Bathroom is not well lit for applying make up. Breakfast choices were okay but seemed like staff was having a difficult time keeping up with the amount of people eating. Nice patio and pond area. Since we left the hotel by noon for the wedding we expected our room to be cleaned while we were gone. When we left for the reception later we asked for fresh towels & tissue since our room was not cleaned. After the reception, we found our clean towels in the room but the dirty towels were still there and no tissue. Our tv no longer worked... could not change channels only had CNN. Another couple we were with had similar issues. Great location & rather new but need to work on a few things. We also had a nightcap in the lounge and we seemed to be bothering the staff who served us .5 couples were staying there and we wanted to chat before bedtime.
Felt like I was walking into an episode of fixer upper with the beautifully decorated and modern lobby (barn wood and cool metal decor - super cool decor). They had coffee and tea and lemonade available all the time in lobby. The hallways were brightly lit and everything was soooo clean from the hallway carpet and elevators to the showers and bedding and the entire room. It was so quiet and comfy. The Tv in my room was very large. The room was also quiet and very dark ( a must for me to have good sleep). Breakfast was good but not exceptional but can't really complain as it was free and hot. Thanks for an amazing stay. I'd stay again in a second.
We stayed at Best Western Premier Ankeny Hotel as we traveled from Az to Mi after wintering in Sun City, Az. This was a beautiful property with our second floor room overlooking a peaceful pond as does the breakfast room. It is the newest and prettiest Best Western we have encountered in our annual treks back and forth from Mi to Arizona in the fall and back to Michigan in the Spring.
They have a huge clean dining area with tons of seating options that overlooks a pond! The breakfast options are fantastic. The entire hotel is super clean, the rooms are spacious, and the customer service is unbelievable!
Very clean, comfortable room. Lounge areas are divided and allow for privacy. New and very nicely decorated. My only concerns were a poorly lit bathroom mirror and hot breakfast was lukewarm. Nice conference room and staff were helpful and friendly.
This was possibly the best night sleep in a hotel that I have ever had. The bed was so comfortable. If not the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever experienced, then it was a very close second. Mattress was amazing. Breakfast was good. Like others have mentioned bathroom sliding door has wide gap. I was traveling with 2 teenage daughters who like their privacy. Everything is clean and modern. Easy access to 35 highway. Exceeded my expectations for the price that I paid. Great value.
Convenient, close to I-35. Room nice. Coffee and breakfast were good. Met friends in Altoona, were able to sneak a less-traveled back way to meet them near Altoona. Room and bathroom facilities were very clean.
We spent one night here while here for Hubbys work. Very nice motel. I think the lobby area feels kind of clustered. But they squeezed a lot into a small area. It's fine....just seems “close”. Charity checked us in and also was our bartender in their lounge. She was very friendly and accommodating. We also enjoyed sitting on the patio outside by the pond....although the traffic was so loud we could hardly here each other! Hubby said he was disappointed in the breakfast for being a premier. He was hoping for sausage gravy and biscuits. He said it was all microwave “fake” stuff. But....definitely would stay here again! Room was very quiet considering the interstate so nearby.
Great location along I-35 in Iowa. The hotel is very modern with stylish decor and very clean rooms. All of the staff was friendly ... from the front desk person to the employees working the breakfast area. Great breakfast with lots of variety.
No better place to stay if your in Ankney, This place is amazing, rooms are super nice, my granddaughter wants to live there, nice view, staff is great, very helpful, nice exercise room, pool room is great with a very nice very and access to outside
This is a beautiful hotel and the staff was great. Bathrooms have a sliding barn door that does not lock and you can see/hear through the cracks and others can see you showering. No tub. No privacy. The shower door is glass so you can see yourself in the mirror when showering. Breakfast had an awesome selection but they were out of juice, silverware, yogurt bowls, syrup and juices when I got there. Yogurt bowls are too big and juice is bulky to pour and sticks to bottom tray. This hotel is beautiful but they gave up functionality in the bathrooms and at breakfast for style.
This is one of the best hotels in the Ankeny/North Des Moines area. I can say this with confidence having previously stayed up the road at the Ramada and also at the Best Western in Altoona. The hotel itself is fairly new and is well cared for. The staff is fantastic, very helpful, kind, and fun! The breakfast buffet is excellent, very similar to a holiday inn express. The hotel has it's own bar which is great for larger groups with kids so parents can relax and socialize a bit without leaving the property. Free coffee/tea/hot chocolate 24/7 was a nice amenity. The hotel also offered several lounge areas including an outside area with fire pit. A very modern, hip hotel. Beds and pillows were comfortable as well. The only knock on the hotel is the sliding barn door for the bathroom door. This feature doesn't provide much privacy, particularly with younger children who like to constantly open the door. The door in the room we stayed in also didn't sit flush with the wall so there were cracks for people to be able to look in.
Beautiful new hotel with easy access from I35. Staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. Room was great, clean, quiet, very nice decor. Beds were very comfortable and the heating / cooling system was top notch... no noisy wall unit, perfect quiet temp control. We had a good night's sleep, so rare in hotels. Lobby has a very cool modern design. Breakfast area feels like fine dining, walls of Windows overlooking a pond area. Good breakfast selection AND real plates and silverware...Nice. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.
The hotel was very clean and had a lot of choices for breakfast. I had a small school group there so everything worked well for us. If you had a larger group, the only issue would be that the pool is very small and there is no hot tub. Since I was the chaperone, I didn't get back to my room until 12:30 and the TV would not work due to the poor reception. Too late to call the front desk in my opinion, so maybe check that out earlier in your stay.
This is a very new and hotel with modern colors and themes throughout. It was extremely clean with a very good morning breakfast. The rooms were nice and modern with new tv's and decor. This is a very nice hotel and close to all the shopping in the area. I would recommend this hotel. We'll definitely book this hotel again when we need to stay in this area.
Very friendly staff and very clean room. The breakfast was outstanding. I plan on staying again when in Ankeny area. I will also look for other Best Western Premier's hotels when I travel. I highly recommend staying at Best Wastern Premier Ankeny Hotel.
This new hotel is very nice & clean. It's located right off the interestate for convience but is still quiet spot. My family enjoyed the pool and hot breakfast on the morning. Would highly recommend! Excellent rate!
We just stayed in this hotel this weekend and we were impressed with how new, extremely clean, and beautifully decorated it is. It's kind of fancy. :) It must not have been discovered much yet because hardly anyone was there on a Saturday night. Staff was friendly. Beds were comfortable. Nice amenities. We didn't like the sliding barn door on the bathroom. It has inch-wide gaps on both sides when closed, so it's bad for privacy and warmth. We hope they change those. Breakfast was sparse but staff apologized, plus it made sense when hardly anyone was staying there. The breakfast area is set up for a really great hotel breakfast with some really interesting choices. The eggs were the best we've had in a hotel. We'd gladly go back, especially if we had a different bathroom door!
We have family in the area and stay in Ankeney often. This was our first stay at this Best Western and we have found the best facility in the ares. Carrie and her staff did an outstanding job, the facility is beautiful, great beds, great breakfast, a pool for our grandsons. We were treated like family. We will be back many times.
This hotel is very hard to find as we never saw a sign directing us which turn-off to take. The hotel has a unique design but the minute you walk in the door you notice it isn't just another Best Western hotel. The front desk staff was very friendly and the fitness center had nice equipment, The hotel was very clean and it smelled brand new. The room had a larger than normal screen, easy chair with foot stool and a comfortable desk chair. Breakfast had pancakes made for you on the spot from a machine which was a new one for me. The breakfast was a normal Best Western breakfast but how it was served was fancy. While eating in the dining area you could overlook a pond with hundreds of Canadian Geese floating around.
This hotel is gorgeous! The staff is amazing-Friendly, courteous, out-going. Foyer has a very cozy fireplace. Rooms: Large and decorated well, bed and chair is comfortable, Good sized television, Great view of pond and Geese, Very quiet. They have a fitness center and indoor pool, Dining and Bar, laundry area, multi-media area. They have a nice variety of breakfast items.Only down note if you like to watch tv--There is no real channel choices--one channel to watch shows, CNN, all the rest of the channels are informercials.
This hotel has very modern rooms with lots of space. The common areas are clean and fresh with space to sit and relax. Breakfast was good with a wide selection for not being an actual restaurant. The Wi-Fi network is very fast and won't let you down.
Visited here while traveling and I'm here to tell you that the staff was Excellent! When we arrived for check in, Carrie, Masson, and Brooklyn made diet that all of our needs were met; from accommodations, to the room, to dinner suggestions. Each encounter with either of them was very pleasant. The rooms were great with a great little serene view of a on_site pond;breakfast was great each morning, and access to either near-by town was perfect. I would recommend this place to any one traveling to the area.
Beautiful new hotel! Mason at the desk was very helpful and got us in a room at 11pm. The bed and bathroom were great, very clean and super comfy! The breakfast is quite nice and a step above what normal hotel breakfasts include. We will be back for sure!!
Wow! What a nice hotel! I recently stayed here for the Farm Progress Show, and I was blown away by the cleanliness, modernness of the hotel, friendly staff and tasty breakfast. The patio is such a nice place to relax after a long day. I hope we stay here again in the future. It was such a blessing to stay here compared to our previous hotels.
Was not sure what to expect as it's been a while since I stayed at a Best Western. Very new, clean hotel. Modern style in rooms and common areas. Nice, large room with a desk for working and a chair/ottoman for relaxing. Comfortable bed. TV with full Directv package. Bathroom has a backlit mirror and barn-style sliding glass doors on the shower. Sits next to a small lake, so odd numbered rooms face the lake. Seafood restaurant right next door and others a short drive away. Pleasant staff. Free breakfast with the usual stuff plus pancakes, and warm tortillas for making breakfast burritos.
A part of me does not want to share the secret of this beautiful new gem. What a great new Best Western addition. This hotel is brand new, so expect a few hiccups and minor issues. The heartfelt welcome upon check-in and sincere apologies for some minor "new hotel" issues, make it difficult to give it anything less than a well deserved five stars. Bravo with this beautiful new hotel. Looking forward to our next visit in a couple of weeks. I'm sure the breakfast will be perfect! Special shout out to Masson who exhibited perfect customer service and a contagious smile. Thank you for an excellent stay!
