"Nothing “sure” about this stay…"
Our “reward” for making a reservation five months in advance, checking in remotely by phone at 11 AM on our day of arrival, and arriving at 3:45 PM was to be sent to a smaller room in a funky 8-room annex building tacked on to the end of the main hotel (see photos). How funky? When we couldn't find the annex building, the desk clerk actually had to walk us to it - and added, “don't worry, it's safe.”Yikes. The room was not only small, our “2-queen” reservation also turned out to be a 1-queen room with an extra twin bed stuck in the corner (see photo). We only discovered when we opened the door to the room, a switch the front desk neglected to mention when we checked in. We had to complain, then wait for the manager to call us back to get a $20 “break” on the room, which was really just the rack price for a lesser room than what we had reserved. No apologies offered. More details: the off-street parking for the annex was blocked with construction vehicles (apparently associated with the hotel, and a bunch of workers sitting on what space was left just hanging out). So, we parked on the street in front, and hoped our car would be there and intact in the morning (it was). Still more details: the “secure” back door to the annex that requires a card key to open was propped open with a rock, open to the world, apparently for the construction workers? (see photos) The construction workers added to the negative experience, too - not their fault, but they were loud and banging around until after 6 PM, and could be plainly heard inside our room. Again, no mention of this when we checked in. More funky details: The “ice machine” the staff assured us was in the annex building turned out to be the ice maker in the door of a staff fridge lunch room (?) filled with personal items. A sink full of dirty dishes was adjacent to the staff fridge (see photos). Meanwhile, our ice bucket had standing water left in it and a crack in the bottom, with no plastic bag liner to be found, so we improvised with a plastic grocery bag. Still more details: the staff seemed unclear why the landline phone in the room was disconnected and lacked a cord (and thus why I had to call the front desk on my cell phone). Thankfully, we had cell service, as it's a long walk down the street from the annex to the lobby in the main building! Finally, our room in the overflow building looked out on a sketchy alley - should you be wondering about the scenic view in this otherwise gorgeous part of Nevada. It could have been worse: the rooms on the opposite side of the annex hallway have a view of a blank cinder block wall a few inches from their window! (see photos) In fairness, the smaller room itself was spare but clean, with reasonably good pillows and well-supplied with towels. It's just not what we were sold. Based on other reviews, folks fortunate enough to be in the main building seem to have had a better experience. With all of the above factored in, the annex is overpriced and deceptive. The annex rooms should be clearly described and pictured as such on their website, as they are obviously subpar to the rooms in the main building that are shown when making reservations. The attached photos tell the story, as well. Frustrating to have such a negative experience, as there aren't a lot of lodging options along Highway 50, and we had planned to return.
"Location, room price and nice service"
Large quiet room with decent beds and great location. Helpful front desk staff and good free breakfast.
"Clean, comfortable and quiet; what more can one expect?"
This Surestay hotel is the best option for an overnight stay in Eureka. Rooms were quiet and clean. Checkin was fast and the clerk was informative. Parking is behind the hotel, accessed by driving under the building and past the office. Breakfast was adequate.
"Least furnished room I've ever seen"
This hotel has 2 sections - the main hotel & a single-story annex with about 10 newer rooms in an older building nearby. This is a review of a room in the annex, which has the lowest priced (queen bed) rooms. Good: the room & bathroom were clean & well maintained. Linens were clean & white. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large with a long vanity counter & good lighting. Everything worked okay. (Did not use TV or Wi Fi.) Air conditioner was quiet. There were no odors. The building was quiet. Not so good: The room was small with furniture limited to the bed, a chair, mini-refrigerator with microwave on top, & one suitcase rack. The bed was in an alcove with just enough room in either side to access the bed. There was no dresser/desk, no table, no nightstands - basically no flat surface on which to put anything (outside of the bathroom counter) except for one small wall shelf on one side of the bed only, a semi-deep windowsill (which held a telephone), & a small platform on the chair arm. There was a table-top ironing board, but really no place to use it except the bathroom counter. Outlets were limited. Also, parking near the hotel appears limited. Neutral: ALL breakfast items were prepackaged - mostly sweet items, but also breakfast burritos, pancakes, yogurt. A microwave was available to heat things up. The breakfast area was clean. If one has to stay somewhere along Highway 50 in Nevada, this hotel is an okay place as long as one is aware of the room types. Paying a little more will apparently get one a better furnished room. The rooms in the annex seem overpriced for the amenities and work best if one has minimal gear.
"Cheap hotel, really nice people, lousy view."
Very Friendly front desk staff. Small room but BIG bathroom with tub. Fridge with freezer compartment and tiny microwave in room. Very nice breakfast. Come for the nice hotel on The Loneliest Road in America, but not for the view. We were in a building that had been added on and our room face a cinder block wall. Really.
"They will try to find a reason to charge you extra and will enter even if you use Do Not Disturb placard."
My husband stayed there last week. There are only two motels in town. He was there Weds and checked out Fri March 19 to 21st, 2025. He had his Do Not Disturb sign on his room and the hotel staff entered his room anyway to turn off the air conditioner. That's not appropriate. Then when he returned to the room his key card didn't work so he went to the front desk and they told him the maid found some ash. My husband told her he didn't smoke in the room. We stay in hotel rooms all year round and he's never smoked in the room. We aren't that dumb. He did clean out his weed pipe, but didn't even smoke weed in the room. I woke up today and they charged us 100 for I guess smoking in the room even though my husband didn't smoke and told her he didn't smoke in the room and he even said when he arrived the room did NOT smell like stale smoke. Sometimes when you get a non-smoking room you can tell a previous guest had smoked in there at one time in the past, I thought maybe they smelled stale smoke and blamed him. So if the room didn't smell like smoke why were we charged? I guess because there were ashes from a weed pipe in the trash can? Anyway, it's bull and we won't ever stay there again. My husband said he went outside to his work truck 30x between the two days he was there to smoke since it was so cold. We know what no smoking means. I just want to warn other possible future guests. Also, an insta model and BF or cameraman were staying there and they got charged an extra fee for their pet, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is their thing, they claim guests do something wrong and make extra charges when they check out. I thought our charge was just a deposit and the charge just came through at midnight, so guest beware. Now I just need to copy this review every other possible place to warn others.
"Mediocre."
You are very limited for choice traveling across NV on this "loneliest road in the US" so you might find another option elsewhere in advance. We arrived quite late in the afternoon after traveling around 12 hours to be told our "room is not ready yet." You could say that was rather disappointing. Thankfully there was somewhere to eat before we hunkered down for the night but certainly far from the best "Best Western."
"Just right"
Just right for a one night stay while tackling the Loneliest Highway. Comfortable room, easy parking, decent breakfast, good value for money. At this point the 200 minimum characters requirement kicks in, so I'll mention the implicit "biker friendly" atmosphere even though my wife and I were in an SUV.
"Nice hotel in the middle of no where"
Nice updated clean rooms . Great staff. Wonderful friendly housekeeping staff. Good pillows. Should have a sleep timer on the TV remote. Need vending machine with more choices . Breakfast was ok nothing special. Great beds nice cool room!
"Excellent customer service!"
Very nice place. Well kept and well appointed. Customer service was excellent. Value was excellent. The breakfast was good. The room was wonderful. I had a slight problem with the television and the front desk person came and helped resolve the issue very promptly.
"Business"
Good stay I enjoyed it very much I was there on work. Wish breakfast was a little earlier but it worked out.
"Great place in the middle of nowhere!"
Great place in the middle of nowhere (Loneliest Hwy) - friendly staff, big clean, comfortable, quiet rooms, decent WiFi and breakfast. We ate at the Urban Cowboy next door, friendly service and we had fun chatting it up with the locals, the food was delicious and the menu also offered Indian dishes. We stayed two different nights at SureStay within 5 days , both stays were great. We will stay again when we travel on the 50.
"A diamond in the rough"
This hotel was wonderful surprise. The reviews on TripAdvisor were great, but I was still leary since it was a small town in the middle of nowhere. It is an older building and the rooms are slightly older, but everything was immaculate. It was cleaner than some 4 star hotel rooms we stayed in on our trip. The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast had lots of options. We were on the first floor right by the door, but it was so quiet! Would definitley stay here again on our trips across Nevada.
"Everything you ever wanted on a difficult trip"
I was hoping to get home early for Thanksgiving, but I had car trouble. After being stood up by AAA, having to stay in a very expensive, cold motel room for 3 nights, I arrived at this wonderful hotel. The staff was so welcoming, so kind and so personally concerned, the last few ugly days faded away. I was able to sleep, soak and finally get warm. The price was so reasonable that I choose to stay for another night to rest and get over my cold. I was so comfy, safe and welcomed that I was able to drive the 550 miles home the next day. I am very grateful for their humanity.
"Unexpectedly delightful!"
For such an out of the way place on the loneliest highway in America (Eureka NV) the hotel was a very pleasant surprise. The room was bright, spacious, charming and very up to date. The staff was friendly and super helpful. The breakfast room is large and offered a wide variety of breakfast food. The hotel is located on Main Street and we enjoyed walking our dogs around looking at the quaint old-fashioned homes and businesses.
"Excellent Relaxing Stay"
This hotel has great staff. The room was a great size and clean. Most importantly, it was quiet. Loved the coffee in the morning. If I get the opportunity I will definitely stay there again. Very economical and the location was in walking distance of where I had to work.
"Will stay again"
This is a great hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms. We didn't have time to use all amenities, but appreciated the fact that there was a workout area we could use if we had time. The breakfast options were good, too.
"Small town hotel was a pleasant surprise"
We stayed at Best Western Sure Stay (Formerly local Gold Country Inn) in Eureka NV as part of our "zero day" break between backpacking trips in the Ruby Mountains and Toiyabe Crest. It was a nice surprise: good service, much value for the money & amenities including laundry facilities (the coins worked and did not stick!), a weight room with well maintained equipment and good free breakfast. Our work is exploring and writing about wilderness so this was a work trip. We enjoyed Eureka too!
"Will definitely stay again!!"
Wonderful stay - Clean rooms, comfortable beds and pillows, staff was courteous, helpful, and professional. I especially want to commend the girl who cleaned the rooms on our recent visit to this hotel (August 18-20, 2023) You did a great job and we, as guests, appreciated it! Thank you!!
"Rating convenience over luxury"
Clean property with needed amenities. Decent breakfast. You can reserve on Best Western site with confidence. Breakfast offerings were as good or better than at previous night's pricier hotel prices. Staff was friendly and welcoming.
"She called the police to my room “on accident “"
I stayed here on Aug 4 the front desk lady charged my credit card and had it on file on their computer. That same night around 8pm I had unexpected banging on my door. I opened my door to 3 police officers claiming the front desk lady on evening shift had called the police on me to have me thrown out of the room! I called the front desk using the hotel phone and she said she thought I hadn't payed but now that she checked the computer again she saw that I had payed for the room. I asked her why she hadn't just called the hotel phone if there was any confusion and she just responded with a fake excuse saying my phone line was busy when it wasn't and I was in my room the entire day as it was hot out that day. My room was a 5min walk uphill from the front desk office. The hallways are bright and light bleeds into the room 24/7. So the room is Never dark for sleep.
"Nice, but nothing special"
I usually count on BW being very good and feel confident in going to one, but this was the first time that when I went into the room after checking in, that the room had been missed and was not made up fresh. The "Privacy Please" sign was on the door when we came, so it is understandable that the housekeeping staff missed it. They fixed it while we relaxed in the breakfast room with a snack we brought with us. The bed was good, internet spotty, (it's out in the middle of nowhere, kind of down in a valley) no coffee pot to brew the coffee packets that were in the bathroom. The staff were friendly and responsive
"Much much better than 1 star"
Traveling The Lonliest Road in America the pickins are slim for a decent hotel. We took a chance on the reported 1 star BW. The website does not do this spot justice. The hotel appears to be recently refurbished, and we'll done at that. The staff was terrific, the hallways and rooms were spacious and very well maintained. This was a pleasant surprise and this location is every bit a 3 star hotel with reasonable prices.
"Overview on best western in Eureka Nv."
Decent clean rooms, firm mattresses. Well laid out with newer carpets. The bathroom and shower was clean with fresh smelling towels. A decent breakfast with a selection of cereals, breakfast burritos, oatmeal and fresh fruit. They also supplied pancake mix, bagels, yoghurt orange juice and coffee, and more. Checked in and out quickly, there are limited restaurants to go to for dinner all within walking distance. Decent value for money.
"Terrific high quality "
Faultless. The room was great, the staff friendly and the breakfast generous and high quality. Cannot fault this place in any way. Everything was modern, clean. Arrived c.8.30pm and no restaurants were open - of course this is not the fault of Surestay in any way. Luckily I had a few supplies however be aware if you are arriving later
"Great Hospitality on "the Loneliest Road in America""
What a remarkable and surprising place! The hospitality sure stood up to the "Friendliest Place on the Loneliest Road" which Eureka dubs itself. Our hostess, Tracy gave us a wonderful overview of the town, the mining operations and what goes on in this cute, quaint town established in the 1860's. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, the room "roomy" with modern amenities and a wonderful shower with generous hot water. I have to say, really exceeded my expectations!
"Almost drove right by it, but it's good once you find it"
I arrived in a snowstorm in January and had trouble finding it because it doesn't look much like a typical motel from the outside. In center "city" of Eureka, it was a warm oasis from the storm. The girl at the desk was friendly and efficient. My room was clean and spacious. Free wi-fi and a great breakfast were included. I'd recommend it, and would stay again if I was in the area.
