Best Western San Marcos

We stayed here while visiting our grandson at Texas State, but we won't stay here again. The room had totally worn out chairs that were peeling, and we didn't even want to sit on them. I couldn't take a bath, because the rubber ring around the plug was moldy. I checked and I could scrape it off with my fingernail. It's next to a freeway, so it's noisy. The staff was nice, and there was plenty for breakfast. There's too many other options to stay here on our next visit.

This hotel is always clean and comfortable and includes a continental breakfast and a pool for the warm months. The cable tv and internet both worked well. This within one to two miles of downtown and easy access to restaurant row along I-35. Have never had any issues and will stay here again when in San Marcos.

We were a little concerned staying close to the freeway, but it was quiet and very comfortable. We slept great, and I. The morning enjoyed a good breakfast. The check in was very pleasant and we were recognized as Diamond members. The morning staff was upbeat and very welcoming, too.

Pleasant check in, a little outdated but expected with the lower Room rate. Everything works in the room with microwave and fridge. Bed was comfortable. The front offers a view of I 35, the back on the 2nd floor would give a nice tree view. Glad I chose this place.

The hotel staff were friendly, but the breakfast buffet was severely limited. Some of the furniture in our room had tears and signs of wear; I could tell that management did not take housekeeping seriously.

The hotel was nice, the bed was comfortable and had 5 pillows. The internet worked well with my Amazon Firestick. The printer in business center did not work and I had to email my documents to the front desk to get them printed. The breakfast ended at 9:30 and I arrived at 10:30. This was my fault because I came from Mexico and they did not change to daylight savings this year. I would probably stay here again.

Our overall stay was good. Just make sure to check your bill. They charged my sister for a bed cot she never received to her room. She was told she would get a credit and never did. Our fault for not getting a receipt even though she was told she didn't need one.

The room was gross. The chair was so bad we wouldn't sit in it. There comes a point when you have a piece of worn out furniture and you just need to throw it away. There is something disgusting on the wall behind the phone. The pillows were the worst I've ever had in a hotel. The air conditioning unit was cooling,but the fan controls only allowed for auto and not low,high or constant so when it cycled on and off all night it woke us up. It just wasn't the pleasant hotel experience I usually have when I stay at a Best Western hotel.

Hotel over priced, breakfast is simple and cheap. Pool is a nice big size and clean. Bed was comfortable and room needed more detail cleaning. Staff was okay a little nice. Parking is good and free. The hotel it self is older and needs new carpet and the hotel itself smells like curry. I guess the workers and truckers don't mind it, but families do.

The hotel was a bit dirty. Our room was very musty, and the AC unit did not seem to be functioning properly. The water pressure was a bit weak. The breakfast did not look appealing. We booked and paid for 2 nights but only stayed for one. We ended paying for another hotel room on the other side of the highway.

When walking into the lobby you aren't sure how the stay will be. There's no elevator, it's dated, and the outside looks a little run down. But when the staff greats you and checks you in quickly (even though they were bringing in supplies) and your room looks and even smells clean you know you've found a gem. The hotel was quiet, my family slept great, and the breakfast the next morning was delicious. I've stayed in nicer looking hotels and had horrible service and not so good of a breakfast. In this case don't judge a book by its cover. You won't regret it.

If i could give no stars i would, absolutely horrible dirty room, hair in the bed sheets and blankets, on the bathroom floor. Chair was falling apart as in the leather was flaking off, it smelled of urine when i first walked into the establishment. MOLD IN THE AC ! Never stay here, I mean unless it's all you can afford, but i'm sure you can find better for the same price. just ghetto honestly yuck !!! and the review I wrote on google got a crappy reply of “we didn't see your name in our history” like… okay well I got pics lol here ya go

This was not the best property. The location is good. However, the noise of the interstate highway was pretty loud throughout the night. The staff is friendly. There were ants in the room...some crawling on the walls...some got in my bed during the night!

Empolyee came beating on my door at one minute to checkout telling me I had ten minutes to get out of room. When I complained about dirty pool I was told it was closed bc swimming season was over. but it was 80 degrees and still October, and it should have NOT been advertised to have a pool if it wasnt open!!!

After checking in, we walked into our room which contained roaches and dead crickets. There were food wrappers (w/ food still on the wrapper) and crumbs on the floor. We immediately went back to the front desk and walked back to the room with the front desk attendant so that he could see the dirty room. That man told us that “it was the season for crickets!! It is very clear that this hotel is not upholding an enhanced cleaning protocol, even during the time of a pandemic! We are currently working with the hotel to get our money reimbursed, as we did not stay in the hotel. We left the hotel and hope to speak to a manager about a reimbursement. We took pictures and will add below.

Room, bathroom and bed dirty (crumbs, nails, hair, bed bug nymphs) ewe gross. Do NOT stay. (I didn't) room I got was not cleaned daily. I had been over a week since someone cleaned it. Parking lot is narrow. Only good thing is the location.

Nice, handicap accessible room, great AC, clean. We would stay again if we're in the area. Breakfast was good with the waffles being our favorite item. Coffee available all day which is a nice perk. Nice pool.

Nice quiet place for an overnight. We like Best Westerns particularly in west Texas. All have been good exxperiences. Our room was on tnhe back side and very quiet. The location is just off IH35 excess road.

Worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. The bathtub doesn't drain properly and a shower can only last 90 seconds. The hallways reeked of pot in spite of booking no smoking rooms. The attendant at the front counter stated there was nothing that can be done about it. Calling the cops usually they don't do anything and can't force someone out of a room. Terrible hotel. I will never stay at a Best Western again.

Was just a terrible place to book. Beds were uncomfortable, woke up with our backs hurting. Not enough parking which left us to park at a nearby restaurant. Air conditioner in room was not working even asked to move rooms and was not accommodated. No elevator, had to carry out heavy luggage up two flights of stairs. Just a terrible experience, will pay extra for a different hotel next time in San Marcos.

Roach Hotel, will never, ever stay here. Roaches crawling all over, eating area filthy, roaches walking all over. Rooms have a bad odor, parking lot a mess filled with trash.Beds smelled terrible, noise coming from the freeway was so loud, noise day and night. Bathrooms filthy, water slowly goes through as if all lines were clogged up.

The room and accommodations were above expectation. Bed, pillows, and air conditioning were comfortable and set well. I did not have a chance to use the breakfast. Front desk personnel gave good advice.

Had an overnight stay planned in San Marcos. Chose Best Western due to convenient location, price including senior discount, and previous reviews. Good choice! Room was clean. Bathroom was too. Coffee maker was well stocked. Breakfast was really good: scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and peppers, cheese, salsa, waffles, pastries, juices and good coffee. Traffic noise was covered up by pleasant hum of AC system. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for an overnight stay at a reasonable price in San Marcos.

The stay was short, only one night. You could tell this was originally not a best Western property. The room was quiet and had a very comfortable bed. The internet worked well. The breakfast was small, they used the lobby as their breakfast nook. The food was okay, actually above normal. I did use the business center also, which was located again in the lobby. All of the computers and printers worked well. It was a blessing, something that stuff does not even work and I really needed to print out some documents. The location next to San Marcos was good about 5 miles from the outlet malls. I would probably stay there again!

Good place to stay and it is also safe. I'm pretty sure you have to ask about the points or snacks because I was not offered either. Breakfast was good as well. Comfortable beds and no noise to speak of that could have kept me awake. I'd stay again if ever in the area.

Highly Recommend! This place is CLEAN, great price, courteous staff, great breakfast, and overall the best hotel experience I've had in San Marcos! And Fuegos Tacos next door is amazing! Super close to all the shopping, all around great place and value for your $$ in San Marcos!

Nothing fancy but the attendants we're very kind. I had no issues here. Kids enjoyed the pool as well. Right next to San Marcos rio vista park. There double rooms are actual queen beds unlike other hotels

Pros: Super friendly staff, cold A/C, within a few miles of great restaurants, and rooms were quite. Cons: NO ELEVATOR, poor bedding both in comfort and lack of bedding (it was like pulling teeth to get extra blankets and towels) the bathroom was built for people under 5' tall but the shower is set up for people 7' tall, the pool was dirty, and what was provided for breakfast was subpar in quality and quantity,

Staff was helpful and very responsive to problems. Fixed very quickly. Some staff had a very strong Indian accent but the friendliness and desire to be of service along with their humor made us want to keep talking with them. All staff were very enjoyable.

We got 3 rooms for my son and friends using points. My son got there the points were taken and they were charged $184 more then the room confirmation we recieved. The man that runs the motel is extremely hard tk understand, started screaming at me on the phone because i used the word nonsense. There was no hot water in 2 of the rooms. This was the most horrific experience we have ever experienced in a motel. DO NOT GO HERE. so now we are out almost $200 plus 24,000 reward points. i have made 5 calls to the hotel. NOTHING RESOLVED. Will never ever deal with this again. They ruined my sons gift.

During the Texas black out Feb 15 - we made a reservation and could not even find the hotel the whole block was black. The manager refused to refund the reaservation saying the hotel was open for business. we couldnt even find the front door it was so black inside and how were we supposed to navigate without lights ! this is a bad place

The room needs remodeled. Old carpet, old bathroom fixtures. Only top sheet and light blanket on bed, no bedspread or coverlet, no dust ruffle. Old towels that were rough and 1 had stains, a hole and frayed edges. Expect a hold to you credit card that is substantially more than final charge. Staff was very friendly.

This is on a one way street, so it was not an easy on/off the freeway. The pillows on the bed were little square pillows like throw pillows. There was hair in the bathroom. Did not feel the room was really clean. Gave you lotion, and hair conditioner. I am sure you are supposed to get shampoo, but i did not get any. There was a coffee maker in the room that makes one cup at a time. They gave you a breakfast box with an apple, water, and chewy bar. They also had food out like Danishes. Room was not very quiet. Ask for a room not facing the freeway.

Room on frontage room side noisy...but wanted to be close to entrance. Otherwise will get room in back next time. Lots of road construction... Close to shopping and tons of restaurants...outlet mall is near by, walmart and close to freeway entrance.

Checked in here while visiting family. Mr Patel was very nice enough to let me check in early and I appreciate that. Room was nice with a small fridge,microwave, 35 TV with a decent selection of channels. A/C in the room worked great and kept the room cool. King size bed was very comfortable and the pillows were small but very nice and I fell asleep right away. Friend of mine also stayed here and she enjoyed herself as well. Parking lot kinda small. There is a pool here but there was a lot of people using it when we got back late. Key lock on the outside of the door a little tricky to use. Would stay here again.

They charged my card an additional $10 for a missing ice tray (not bucket) that was in the room when i checked out. I suggest you stay for them to go through your room because I checked out prior and they charged me for something that was there. Who takes a tray...that is asinine?

First off, I'm pissed that this place has high reviews. I went off of them thinking that it would be a nice place, and I was so disappointed. This place is a dump and the management is awful. I felt like they intentionally used COVID19 as a way to take advantage of me. We took a road trip to San Marcos from Memphis and got in late at night, around 11pm. The first thing that we encountered was limited parking because the entire parking lot was taken up by construction trucks. This lobby was COMPLETELY under construction, and there was NO word on their website about this. As soon as we entered the lobby, the ENTIRE room was being worked on by several construction workers at 11 FREAKING PM with no sign of stopping any time soon, despite the comfort of the guests. There was a long strip of ceiling missing and the workers were banging on the ceiling with hammers. The front desk worker was completely unapologetic about it and said that they were taking advantage of the fact that they have fewer guests at the moment from COVID. Although, I find it completely APPALLING that they didn't even have the decency for the guests that they DID have to halt construction during the night. Since it was already past 11pm at this point, we decided to give it a chance despite the circumstances, since it would be hard to find another hotel so late, especially in COVID season. We went to our hotel room with Clorox wipes to wipe it down, and the first thing that we saw when we closed the door was a HUGE roach the size of my hand. It was MASSIVE and came out immediately. The room was stale, outdated, and had a funky smell and was totally disappointing as it was. Add in the massive bug and it was just horrid. We went into the parking lot and sat in my car trying to get in touch with the booking company whom we made the reservation through. The agent said that she would need to get in touch with the hotel and put us on hold. We remained on hold for 30 MINUTES because the desk worker was not answering the phone. He was letting the phone ring so that he could just STAND OUTSIDE AND WATCH THE CONSTRUCTION PEOPLE AS THEY WELDED METAL IN THE PARKING LOT WITH SPARKS FLYING EVERYWHERE. Yes, there were sparks flying all over the entrance of the hotel. We ended up leaving and going to the Country Inn & Suites down the road and it was SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!!!! AND FOR THE SAME PRICE AND SAME RATING! I was so angry that this horrible place gets away with operating like this and still gets a good review when the Country Inn & Suites is so underrated. DEFINITELY would stay there again and would pay for my family members to stay there too. The next day, the booking company was finally able to get in touch with the property management and they claimed that they did nothing wrong and refused to give me a full refund. This place is full of SCAM ARTISTS. It is UNACCEPTABLE that I wasn't immediately issued a full refund. You can see the picture evidence below. If you are reading this Best Western, please give me my full refund.

I was very impressed with this hotel. It's a small older property but you couldn't tell. It is the cleanest and quietest hotel I have ever stayed at. I didn't hear a thing until 9am the next morning. The room smelled fresh. I could go on. Amy and Johnny were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was hot and fresh even though it was almost over. I would definitely stay here again. Oh! And you couldn't beat the price.

A very pleasuable stay. We have been Best Western travelers for many years, This ione of the nicest motels. They did a fabulous job of remodeling. Furnishes were superb. Only thing missing was a Lazy Boy recliner!

The Best Western off I 35 in San Marcos,TX was upon immediate impression in lobby an older small hotel needing updating. However when we got to our room it was quite nice with mahogany furniture and a spacious bathroom. We had a handicap accessible room though. The only thing I did not like was that when we asked for a later checkout, we got in after 1 am and checkout was 1100, we were told 1130 was the latest unless we wanted to pay $25 then we could stay until 2pm. I thought that was inappropriate. I have never to pay a fee for a late checkout.

For a economical, clean, comfortable hotel stay this Best Western cannot be beat. It is an older hotel, but, very well kept and every staff member we encountered was very kind and friendly. The continental breakfast was one of the best we have encountered.

I always stay at this Best Western when I am in San Marcos to shop the mall. This is a very good place to say. Very clean and comfortable. I would and do recommend this Hotel. I feel very save there and have never had any issues with parking. Outstanding Hotel.

We had a two night stay at this hotel in San Marcos, TX, and the facility appeared well-maintained and our room was clean. It's an older hotel, 2-story, but was very well kept. Great price for a room over a weekend. Staff was very friendly, check-in/check-out efficient, and breakfast was your typical hotel breakfast but was good. Beds were comfortable. I would recommend requesting a room on the back-side of the hotel, if possible, just because I-35 is right next to the hotel and noise could be an issue if staying in rooms facing the highway. Our room was on the back side and we did not hear any highway noise at all. Would not hesitate to stay again next time we're in San Marcos.

Will definitely stay again when I am in town. Very clean, was well equipped. Check in was a breeze . Very good price. We were just in town for a short time & usually spend alot more on a hotel for a short stay & less quality .

The staff is friendly and helpful, the beds are comfortable, breakfast is good and the hotel is in a good location. Also, we needed a crib, which was clean and in good shape. This is our second stay here and we will stay again.

We have stayed at this BW a couple of times and the staff has been helpful, friendly and very knowledgable about the area. The breakfast is good. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. Overall this is a great place for an even better price

Looks like smaller Best western I've stayed at but don't let it fool ya. Staff is great and friendly. Took care of all my questions. Check in quick. Enjoyed breakfast of ham and eggs. I have a bad back, but slept well on their beds. Would easily recommend them.

This is an older facility with average accommodations but the staff did an extraordinary job of trying to make everyone feel welcome. Not much you can do to get past the age of the facility and its location. It also did not help to visit during parent's weekend at Texas State.

we went there in evening the staff great us very well manner. we got many informations about restaurent and all places to visit. the glassbotam boat tour was awesome . we like to stay again. breakfast is very good

Not the best area,and definently overpriced. Needs an update on just about everything. The room key wasn't working properly. Room was super muggy when we entered and smelled like mildew. The breakfast was okay,but very small area to enjoy it in.

the location was great. you could walk to get fast food, Staff very friendly and hotel very clean. I would gladly return back if in San Marcos. It was very quiet and night even though there were a lot of families with children. Pool area very relaxing and the staff always asked if I needed anything. If I saw them in the hallway they would greet me with a smile.

Returning to take in the sights 20 years later, what a change from a cozy small town feel to big city. I guess memories are funny that way, i half expected no change.LOL.......but it was an eye opening experience for me and my forever Lady.

We drove in from Ft. Worth area after having to find a hotel last minute a week before because the LaQuinta burned in town. Based on these reviews I booked this hotel at an outrageous price, do to seasonal rate hikes. It's worse that Motel 6. There were stains on the sheets, room stunk, a/c barely got cold, and you're talking about sleeping in the humidity of the hill country. Whether you're easily offended or not, I don't care. The mgr is of Indian or similar descent who is difficult to speak with. I had booked through Priceline and had paid for 2 rooms. First night horrible and wanted money back for 2nd night and cancel reservation due to the things mentioned above. I spent hours being stuck between Priceline and the Mgr. Priceline needed the Mgr's approval to refund and the Mgr acted dumb and said he didn't have authority, even when I had Priceline on the phone and gave him the phone directly after he hung up on her. Her refused to care about the customer and tried to blame it on Priceline. All he had to do is give authorization. I have now been told by Priceline and Best Western it is by his authority, for me to get my money back on an unsatisfactory room. I have also put in a formal complaint with Best Western. I am not guaranteed my money back but I'm trying to fight for it and let Best Western know people like this are running hotels and ruining their name. I will Never stay here again. This is with using common sense and judgement. We are on a budget and not made of money but I expect my room to be clean, comfy, and cool for $100 plus.This was NOT!

Great hotel for visiting the area. We visited several towns from this hotel and the outlet malls. The staff and owner were super nice. The breakfast was different each day and more than satisfying for us. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom fan was too noisy and the WiFi worked great.

You can always count on Best Western to take care of all reasonable needs that you have. This Best Western met that standard and went above. I will stay at is hotel next time . Clean rooms and great staff.

This is our second stay here. Our family stayed here for our nieces college graduation. The beds are comfortable and rooms are clean. Small hotel with only 2 floors and no elevator. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We had most of our trip in San Antonio, though I know we could have just rented a room there, I didn't want to. Staying at the one in San Marcos is better! They're nice! The front desk staff is clean and attentive! This is a great hotel. Worth the stay.

Our family had a wonderful stay at the best western san marcos. The break fast was superb. The hotel was conveniently located and within walking distance to eatery, shopping, as well as down town. Enjoyed our stay

We are here staying till tomorrow. Nice hotel, friendly staff. The bed is a bit too firm for me. But that's personal taste and should not take away from this establishment whatsoever. The only complaint I have is that the traffic is a bit noisy.

it is very good hotel. I like to stay again. the staff is very good. front desk is knowledgeable. i recomande all my friends to stay there. breakfast was very good. bed was comfortable. the room was clean and beautiful.

The pros: young man at desk when we checked in was delightful. Made us feel welcome and Recommended a place to eat. That was the end. When we returned after dinner, there was an older gentleman at the desk who was not at all friendly. Didn't even speak. Room and amenities were adequate for overnight. Had to ask for decaf coffee for in-room pot. It looked like they had a continental breakfast of sorts, with "out of order" on the juice machine, but we didn't stay for it. Went to Cracker Barrel. We had room in front with lots of street noise.

This hotel does not have the best look from the outside driving up, but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and clean the inside and room was. Breakfast is minimal but fresh and tasted good, and the service and staff were great

Off the highway. but lots of outside lighting, safe and secure. Small facility but clean. Front desk p.m. has attitude and unfriendly. Front desk a.m. friendly and socialable. Breakfast area was clean and food was adequate.

Once again, layedover in TX. This time, the SanMarcos area. Hotel was great, staff are professional. Treated us well. Shopping close by. You must visit, herberts taco hut, for the best mexican food. 100% satisfied...

I needed to cancel my stay and called in the morning to do so. I called early enough that there was still plenty of time for the room to be re-booked for that night. They refused to refund one cent of my money. The corporate office said this was not a corporate policy, but rather the decision of this individual manager. It appears they intend to both keep (steal?) my money, as well as re-rent the room to somebody else so they can get paid twice? This fool manager does not realize that this unethical behavior will hurt his business in the long run. If just two people read this review and decide not to book, he is already in the hole. I personally will sleep in my car before staying at a Best Western again.

For $116 during parents weekend at Texas State, it was ok. Most BW I have had had a better breakfast area, better breakfasts, and pillows that didn't collapse into nothing. We asked for some extra pillows after were were in night clothes late at night and .... "come get them". Really? Can't bring a few down the hall? Nice. The A/C does NOT have a 'run the fan all the time'. With that, air circulates but the a/c clicks on and off, but it's not as noticeable. But here it is. Cunk Cunggggg and it starts and is loud and then cuts off into silence. I like white noise. So a click while the fan is on doesn't interrupt sleep every 10 minutes as it goes on and off and on and off. That sucked. Bed was good. Linens and towels were clean, as was the bathroom. Room was spacious. But 3 large towels for 2 people sucks. I'm sure I could have gone up and gotten more. Never had that attitude at a BW before. I've stayed in other hotels in the area and for the price would probably do that before coming here again, but that's just me. And I'm pretty loyal to the BW brand.

Enjoyed my stay at Best Western in San Marcos. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very casual but very nice/clean. The fact that our stay included a nice hot breakfast is a plus. The convenience of having a nice hot breakfast waiting for us was relaxing. It allowed to stay in a rest a bit before our day at the river.

its old property but all managing in better way. its really excellent stay. we enjoy a lot pool and breakfast. we wish to go at the hotel one more time the staff is friendly treated like family. i strongly recommend the hotel.

This little hotel is really well placed a couple of minutes walk to the harbour edge. Loss of quaint little shops Clean eating area and well stocked breakfast. The baggage carts being on hand rated the movement of the luggage. Under cover parking all this is not the norm.

My husband, his brother and I were bike touring and we stayed at this Best Western in San Marcos, TX for the night of 3/17/2018. Few days later we received an extra $50.00 charge from Best Western aside from the normal/expected room rate. We called Best Western in regard to this extra charge and we were told initially that the towels were missing and that's why we were getting charged. We stated that we did not take any towels from Best Western. Then the hotel changed their statement and told us that we dirtied the towels from cleaning the bikes. This is an absolute insult to us. We would never use a clean white towel to do anything with the bikes. We asked the hotel to provide evidence to us and the manager of the hotel, Mike Patel, was rude to us on the phone and yelled "Do you want to see pictures ? I'll show you the pictures !". This conversation happened on 3/20/2018 and until this day I'm still calling Best Western almost everyday to beg them to send evidence pictures to us. The response from the hotel goes from "the manager is off today", "the housekeeper who took the picture is off today ", "the housekeeper happened to be sick today", "the manager just left 30 minutes ago, call back tomorrow", and to the latest one was "no body is here today, call back tomorrow". This is beyond frustrating. Having a big branded hotel mistakenly charing us extra fee without further providing explanation and evidence feels like they are trying to rip us off. Finally the corporate emailed us a picture sent by Mike Patel to Best Western Cooperate. They made it clear that they cannot do anything about the situation and never gave us a response back. This picture showed a bunch of dirty towels on a floor that is absolutely not in a hotel room. And they blamed this to us because we had bicycles and perhaps made us an easier target. Everyone who bikes or has done any form of bike cleaning/maintenance can tell that this picture is a total lie. Word of advise: take pictures of everything when you stay in this hotel because this is how they rip you off ! Other than the manager Mike Patel, everyone else at this hotel was nice.

We felt at home. The hotel was extremely clean as well as the rooms. Staff was very helpful and polite. They were aware of our needs at all time, when we were walking out, they helped my Mom with help luggage. The breakfast was warm and delicious on a clean environment. I was very surprised they even had sausage. Is the little details that make it spacial, the waffles in a Texas shape, amazing. Definitely will stay here again!!!

Extended a two night stay to four but requested a room change due to water pipe noise. In rm 219 (about the middle of the floor), the water pump/pipe noise was non-stop loud. It was facing the back of the hotel, so the yards of the homes behind were a pleasant view and it was devoid of road noise. I didn't hear guests in the adjacent rooms. I requested a room change for the additional nights. I was moved downstairs to an accessible room. The road noise was an annoyance and I could hear the people in the next room talking and watching tv (and their wake up call) through the doors of the adjoining room. And a few times, the water pipes momentarily shouted out. The place is really clean, the staff is readily available, the breakfast was great as per Best Western standards. The lack of an elevator is a bummer seeing as I had to make several trips up, down and out but help was offered for the move down. I think my stay would have been a bit better if I had a room off center on the back of the second floor. - They have an accessible pool - Breakfast area fills up so earlier is better for seating

Parking very small no exercise room no elevator which was ok since it's only 2 floors but I could hear the room next to me conversations while in restroom. Rust or something came out of tub while water was running and food was not all that stuck to oatmeal and fruit but did like that they had lactose free milk

Having read the other reviews, I wonder if those that wrote them stayed in the same hotel. I stopped overnight on the 7th March, having flown in from London en route to San Antonio, absolutely out of it, just wanting somewhere to get a good nights rest. Wrong choice. First of all, let me say the staff were great, the room perfectly clean. My room was ground floor front, looking into the car park and about 200 yards away from the Interstate which had traffic thundering by all night. Sleep depravation. The morning breakfast was, food wise, adequate. However, I don't believe it acceptable in this day and age to have paper plates and cups. Thought they were for childrens parties. I did mention to the manager on checkout that he would do well to double glaze the outward facing front windows to reduce noise.

Upon approach to this property, I noticed how well lit the parking lot was. This made me feel very safe. I was worried that it may be noisy since it was right on an acess road with the interstate above but I never once heard anything. This hotel was extremely quiet. Lobby area was nice but I did see that the breakfast area seating was limited. We never did get the chance to eat breakfast as we were too busy. The Front Desk staff was AMAZING! From our first entry to everytime we passed, we were greeted with a smile. Upon checkin, the gentleman was extremely helpful and quite speedy which I enjoyed because I was ready to go to bed. Our room was clean and the beds were super comfortable. If I had to say anything bad at all, it would be the water pressure in the shower wasn't has hard as I like it and the hot water never got hot. I had the knob turned all the way up and still the water was just warm. That really isn't a downfall for everyone, it's just I like my showers hot. I used the wifi the whole time for work purposes and never had an issue with speed or being bumped off. The laundry room was clean and there was even a place for me to sit while washing/drying. I would whole heartedly stay at this property again. It's location is perfectly situation near everything (food/shopping/highway).

AWESOME Staff and service! Rooms was very clean and comfy. And breakfast was the Bomb.com! Only complaint I have was no hot water in bath tub. Thanks Best Western for making us comfortable. I found the accommodations to be safe, clean and comfortable. We were there on a shopping trip and found Best Western to be a convenient location for late night eating and access to the interstate and shopping.

This is the best hotel in San Marcos and it has the cheapest and affordable price. They have one of the best breakfast in morning and they have good swimming pool. It was a nice to stay in and the RECEPTIONIST Mike was super polite and he was nice person in general. I lived the HOTEL and I am going back for sure.

Old sketchy hotel over priced. Paid 200 bucks. The odd smell was a nuisance. Small vending area. Pool was a waste. It was about 10 feet by 10 feet. Very outdated decor inside. The outside gave us hope but the inside was scary.

Our bed was ROCK HARD and it squeaked every single time I moved! The staff were excellent though! I would not have paid that amount of money if I had known the beds were that uncomfortable! But, I would gladly stay there again if they'll replace those beds because the staff was so nice and accommodating.

The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. What was exceptional was the staff and service, very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was much better than the typical motel buffet. The only negative is the parking lot is a bit tight, but it's manageable. All in all a very nice place to stay in San Marcos.

I came to San Marcos to drop off my daughter at Texas State and the hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure my stay was enjoyable and comfortable. I will be visiting here again when I am in the area in the future.

Stinky/ Musty room right off the bat. Hair on sheets and pillows. We had our toilet over flow after 10pm and had to leave the room and sit in lobby while it was being cleaned. Wanted a new room or hotel and got no help. When we returned to our "cleaned" room the carpet was all wet and it had an odor the rest of our stay. Extremely disappointed in the price I paid for this hotel, it was dirty and in sanitary!

Motel was clean & comfortable. Staff was courteous & accommodating. Close to many activities in San Marcos. Only negative was the view from our window was a big wooden fence a couple of feet away. No water fountain available to fill water bottles.

Not to have the cleaning personal walk in without knocking while your in bed and not to have the manager make try and make excuses. I wanted an apology and the only thing the manager attempted to do was make excuses like checkout time is at 11:00am. I told the manager my checkout time was not until tomorrow and its not an excuse not to knock. I did not pay good money not to have privacy.

Hotel was rated very good considering the price range. In actuality it was average considering what other hotels offer, but the price range was very reasonable. Breakfast was average at best. No 'gravy' or creamed beef for the biscuits.

The room is quiet and the king size bed was very comfortable. The price of the room included breakfast that was fast and convenient. The food itself was not high end but good enough to do the job of curbing your hunger. Overall a great experience and I will use them again.

Made a stop here on our University tour, the hotel was nice clean and the rooms were good, a nice size. Bathroom were nice and clean. They had a work out room it works but do need an update on the machines.

Decided on a whim to visit wimberley - market days, and ended up staying in san marcos. With out a reservation, we pulled up to this BW and was politely greeted by front desk receptionist. Room was quiet despite being on I-35, however the parking is kinda tight. (in all fairness, other hotels in area have same setup) Room was clean as expected. Breakfast was not all that, but coffee, juice, waffles, and cereal/yogurt were good enough for us. overall, was a good little overnight stay.

Room should have been cooler since I booked in advanced but everything else was fine. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, reasonable priced hotel, then this is the place. The breakfast is simple but good.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is centally located and gives easy access to most area locations and restaurants. No elevator, so ask for first floor if that's an issue. Hotel is very popular with families and the pool is nice and clean.

I am not one who normally leaves reviews, good or bad. However, on occasion I recieve sevice offered so naturally good (so as not to be cofused with contrived politeness) that it is important to offer a favorable critique to both fellow travelers and those offering the service. When my wife booked the room at the San Marcos Best Western she was informed that the hotel was under new ownership and that they were undergoing an upgrade and remodel. First, I appreciate Johnny, the booking agent/front desk manager, being upfront with her that we might be inconvenienced by their construction. A couple of days prior to our scheduled arrival we received a call alerting us that the hotel was ahead of schedule and that the room we had booked was the last to be done. Having done a number of remodels in our life to various businesses we have owned and operated, I know that stopping a project is costly and time consuming. The Best Western San Marcos, though, did so without complaint. I know the days not completeing the remodel of our room was more costly in lost time than the revenue gained from our stay. Yet they did so without complaint. When we arrived the evening prior to our grandaughters graduation we were greeted like long lost friends returning to the neighborhood. I am sure part of this was due to my wife and her sunny dispostion. BUt over the days we stayed I saw lots of folks check in and out and without exception all were treated with the same genuine kindness we experienced. We entered our room (with help from the front desk crew helping us with our bags!) and the airconditioning was on and the room was immaculate. It was an enjoyable stay. I had stayed at this motel under the previous ownership on a quick trip and wondered how it kept its franchise. The re-do is really nice. All surfaces gleam as brightly as the smiles which will greet you upon your arrival. You should know this is a two story hotel without an elevator. You should also know that there will be someone there to help you get your luggage and packages upstairs. My wife and I usually stay in upscale hotels and inns when we travel. We know good service and understand the difference between contrived and real. These folks are the real deal and we will stay at Best Western San Marcos on any subsequent trip.

The front desk clerk at check in; Julie, was the most gracious and hospitable person you could ever hope to find. She went out of her way and above and beyond her scope of duties to provide me with information that I requested from her. A very pleasant and customer service oriented person.

Just an overnight stay to visit our son. Comfortable rooms/beds, friendly staff. Very convenient to all activities. Next door to Fuego which is very tasty and open 2 hours. Good experience, will be back again.

This hotel placed us in a smoking room without telling us. I have a 6 month old baby so when we got up there I could not bring him in. We asked for another room but they were booked and refused to refund us because we used a third party site. I understand that hotels have contracts with these site they have to fulfill but this was an extreme circumstance that should have been handled with professional understanding and it was not. We did not stay there and they did not give us our money back. I'm sorry but I can not expose my baby to cigarette smoke.

I'd made a reservation for this hotel online. Check-in was smooth, although the front desk clerk was not overly friendly or welcoming, in my opinion. Our room was clean. The king- sized bed was comfortable. Heat/air conditioning unit worked well. Our room had a mini- fridge and microwave oven, iron, ironing board, coffee maker, and hair dryer. Breakfast was nice- delicious scrambled eggs, sausages, Texas-shaped waffles, yogurt, bagels, pastries, cereal and juices and coffee. Many people were eating at the same time, so table seating was a challenge with seating available for about 18 people at tables; a few additional chairs in the seating area. This is located fairly near the outlet malls, Target is close and Pluckers restaurant is just down the street.

This hotel is just average. Bed was comfortable, room was okay. Plan on eating elsewhere for breakfast! Location was good for us. A lot of places to eat nearby. Staff was friendly and accommodating. One thing that bothered me was that upon entering the hotel, there was a very strong smell of bleach. I saw the cleaning people cleaning, but the smell was very strong.

Stayed there for a girls weekend. The staff was amazing especially Johnny. He was warm and welcoming upon our check in. He was extremely helpful. Johnny has superior customer service! I stayed one night with my husband, the rooms are big and clean. What you would expect from a hotel room. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. I didn't find an elevator, so if you can't walk up about 14 -16 steps then ask for the first floor. Convenient location, right off highway 35.

We really enjoyed our stay. Room was clean and breakfast was good. Johnny and Alexis at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. We needed directions to the olive tree farm and they printed out the directions for us. They made our stay a good experience. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here while we did some antique shopping in the area. We enjoyed going to Wimberley and Gruene . We also enjoyed visiting the glass blowing place on Hwy 12. You could go in and watch them making beautiful things .

Overall it is a very good place to stay. Friendly and helpful staff. Location is convenient, breakfast is good. Price is fair. You can walk next door to eat nice tacos for dinner. I will definitely consider to come back again.

Hotel was everything you expect and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Accidentally booked a smoking room. The hotel was full so they could not switch me to another room. Cigarette smell was really bad in room. Make sure you don't make that same mistake that I did if you are a non-smoke. Otherwise, everything was very good. Staff was great

Attended a wedding in Wimberlie and needed a place for that night. This hotel is within 25 miles but is near highways to the location that make it convenient. The place was clean, near the highway (could hear highway noise, but acceptable) and had an acceptable breakfast. Staff were exceptionally good.

Friendly, helpful staff, clean room and bathroom. Lobby is nice but a little crowded. The fold down seat in the "accessible" room was too far from the water controls and the grab bars were hard to reach. It is hard to step into the tub for someone who is impaired.

Very clean, very comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent.. We enjoyed eggs, potatoes with veggies, and the good coffee. I was surprised to find that San Marcos has become a somewhat suburb of Austin, as there was a big football game at UT that weekend, and the hotel was completely sold out.

The hotel is older but well kept and clean. Layout a little different (parking in front as the hotel backs up to a fence). Staff was friendly and responsive. The breakfast was typical fare but fresh and plentiful. I would stay there again when in the area.

Decided to spend nite this past weekend on what was suppose to be a day trip to see daughter. Had grandkids with us including an infant. This hotel does not have an elevator. We had a 2nd floor room right by the stairs. Our room was clean and spacious an accomomdated a porta crib supplied by hotel. The pool was clean and plenty of chairs to lounge. We booked two rooms for business for a week and was unable to sleep due the bed bugs or fleas when we spoke with the manager he didn't offer any solution and denied they have bugs even after we produce them still nothing so we checked out and he would not refund our money for the remaining nights after speaking with corporate the made him refund our money thanks to the integrity of Best Western but I highly recommend do not stay here the owner is only concerned with money not customer satisfaction, not to mention the rudeness and telling us we were liers the staff was nice but unable to do the right think because of the owner we hope Best Western reprimand them or pull their brand name from them.

We were pleasantly surprised in every way with this property! We came to the area to visit a local waterpark, and we had everything we needed and more. A nice, big bathroom- large king room, great breakfast, and the entire property was very clean. Thank you!

The rooms are clean and quiet. The staff is very helpful and we had no problems. We spent the weekend. The hotel is close to major roads so you can get to wherever you are going. We spent time with friends and drove around town to see what has changed since we went to college there.

Facility was comfortable and extremely quiet given location on interstate 35. We felt that every one went the extra distance to guarantee a pleasant stay. Location was very convenient to shopping at outlet mall if we had been so inclined.

Overall this was fair experience. The in room refrigerator would not cool, and could not find any controls to lower the temp. There were ants in the bathroom that we killed upon arrival. There is serious lack of parking for the number of rooms available.

Overall, my stay met my most basic needs. The room was clean, check-in and check-out was easy, staff was nice, they offered complimentary breakfast, ect. Although, every time we entered the room, it felt gross and muggy and took forever to cool off. I understand that Texas is hot this time of year, but I am from the gulf coast and live with humidity every day, and I've never experienced anything like this before. There is no excuse for the room to be that muggy. Maybe there is something wrong with the AC unit, or maybe it just needs to be cleaned; I don't know. Also, we stayed in a room at the very end of the hall, which was very inconvenient because there is only one entrance at the front of the building so I did get tired of making that walk by the end of our stay, especially with luggage. Another annoyance was that our room keys would constantly stop working. I think we had to exchange them about three times (and no, we did not store them next to our cell phones). Bottom line--this hotel is decent, but is nothing nice or special. I feel like I paid too much money for what it is. I probably won't be staying here again.

We have stayed at this BW a couple of times. It is close to the Tanger Outlets, the river, lots of restaurants, and local attractions. If you are a bookworm, check out the Half Price Books just across the highway (it's big!). We visited Palmetto State Park for a day of hiking before heading to the hotel, and the drive was short and sweet. Great location and nice, clean hotel.

Great hotel for easy access to Texas State University. I was there for my son's orientation. Hotel staff was great, check-in was easy. Room was nice and clean. Bed was very comfortable. This is a hotel that I will book next time I'm in San Marcos.

My friends and I went on a road trip the Fourth of July week. We went from place to place. This was our least favorite place that we stayed. It was clean and safe, but nothing special. The breakfast was average and there was no hot tub. It also had a weird smell throughout the hotel.

The stay was excellent, except for having to walk from the lobby to the opposited end of the building to get to my handicap room. I need surgery and can barely wallk. One woulld think the handicap rooms would be closser to the lobby since you cannot enter frough the door at the end of the hall.

The staff was terrific! The room was large (we had 2 beds) and we had plenty of room to spread out. The room was clean and comfortable. It is close to the outlet malls and the university. There was breakfast daily and while we only grabbed muffins, it seemed to be a hit with the folks eating.

My daughter and I stayed here while my granddaughter went to orientation at the college. We did some site seeing in the area. We went to Wimberley and Gruene while we were there and really enjoyed both places. There was lots to see and do there and some good places to eat. We had a great time.

I found this Best Western Hotel in San Marcos Austin Texas through Trip Adviser and I am pleased that I did. I was greeted by a gentleman named Jonnie a real gentleman. Very/very helpful in every way.They are blessed to have him. The place and room were very clean.The staff did a excellent job.Good choice at breakfast.The location was great for me just off the I-35 and easy to find,Again I would recommend this Hotel.

I stayed at this hotel about 3 years ago and I was rather unhappy. But this time around, my stay was much more pleasant! To start with, the entire place received a huge facelift. The lobby felt fresh, with new decor and clean. Our room was also newly decorated, new AC system and had a huge flat screen TV. Breakfast is very basic but plentiful. Most important to me is cleanliness and the place looked fresh and clean. For basic accommodations this is very nice and fairly priced.

The location of this Best Western was convenient to Texas State University and good places to eat. The air conditioning was not cool enough. Our room was on the second floor & there is not an elevator in the building. We are older & it was a struggle to get our bags up the stairs. The room was clean. Free breakfast.

We enjoyed this place. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The Wi-Fi worked well and all the features of the room were in good working order. If you are looking for a clean and fitting place to stay overnight it is well kept by hotel management at a very reasonable rate.

We stayed two nights at the hotel. They were very accommodating for our large school group and very upbeat with having so many middle schoolers at their facility. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and updated. The beds were comfy. However, the only downside is that the hotel has half of its room enclosed (hotel style), while the majority of it's room have walkways and balconies that open up to the outside elements (motel style). So when making reservations please ask if you have a room that has enclosed hallways or are the hallways open to the outside elements. It is very easy to find. Easy on/off from I-35. Outlet mall only 8 minutes north of the Hotel/motel. Close to everything really. Breakfast was GREAT!! A lot of choices for everyone from cold to hot. The kids loved that they could put chocolate chips into the waffle maker to make chocolate chip waffles. The coffee was good for hotel/motel coffee. I am pretty picky about my coffee. Its no Starbucks, but had good flavor, not just brown water. The pool was a nice size that accommodated quite a few kids. There is a hot tub, too.

this was a last minute decision to stay here while planning a weekend getaway for our anniversary. The hotel is easy on & off from the freeway. Room was clean and quiet. The desk clerk was VERY helpful in answering our questions and very friendly to speak with. It's always nice to enjoy speaking with strangers and having good casual conversations about the area you are in.

I stay at this hotel at least once a month for work and this time had to stay an entire week because of work. I like this hotel it has always been very comfortable here. The staff is very friendly and all week I ran into several different ones and all were very pleasant. The bed was comfortable, WiFi worked great and I will continue to use this hotel for my business stays and any personal stays.

This was our first stay at this hotel and it was very nice. One of the nicer Best Westerns we have stayed in. Room was spacious, clean, quiet, breakfast was adequate, and staff was helpful and pleasant. All in all a good 3 night stay. We will return.

On our first morning, I found an item that was left by a previous guest. I gave it to the front desk. Maybe it belongs to the Michael who gave this hotel a lesser rating. Anyway, kudos to Johnny, your sincerity, professionalism & friendliness, helped make us rate this place a 5. Snowflakes await you when you head north.

When you tell someone a rate and then charge them a higher rate...get it writing from this place. We were given a special rate because I booked so many rooms for my family to be here for my wedding. Other than that, don't forget anything. You won't get it back. :( We lost a few things that can easily be replaced but its the principal of the matter!!

One of the best caring staff I've had in a long time. I was amazed at how kind and attentive they were to our needs. We travel a lot and it is rare to find this level of service. We will definitley stay here again when we are back in the San Marcos area.

Best Western in San Marcos is terrific, a very small and home like hotel where you have a very helpful and caring staff, and great convenience to I-35. It was a great place for my visits to Austin and San Antonio, which I commuted between. It was my first time booking with best western, and will not be my last. Very clean hotels and the beds are very comfortable. Tremendous value for the price.

Spent one night in this hotel. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Hotel was clean and well maintained. The outdoor pool looked great but since it was in February, I didn't go jumping in. The IH35 traffic noise may be of some concern, but the the hotel was very convenient with easy access from the highway and at a very good price.

We stayed for 3 days during Thanksgiving and it seemed many outlet shoppers would stay here. The check-in was slow and during our waiting, there were some people reported to the front-desk that a suspicious man was hanging around the parking lot. At the mean time I also saw a guy snuck in and out the ground floor( apparently he is not the hotel guest.) But the front desk did not do anything even a check. Therefore, we worried about the safety during the stay. The room was OK. On the next day morning, there was not enough space for their guests to eat the breakfast. Some people need to sit on the reception sofa and shared one chair.

I am staying at this Hotel for the 5th time in around 15 months and every time just got better and all the staff here is caring as ever as they did in the first time. Whenever I visit San Marcos, i do not even evaluate other Hotels and it has become my default Choice.

Made a last minute reservation for my son and myself to stay overnight for a lax tournament in the area. Front desk clerk was super helpful as there was a problem with my reservation and very friendly. She made a late night check in that could have been horrific into a comedy of near epic proportions. Okay, the hotel. First off, there is no elevator, so if you're moving in a lot of bags, keep that in mind. About our room: the air conditioner in our room didn't really work all that well, the beds were very comfortable and ample pillows which is unusual. We faced the freeway, so there was a lot of noise in the room but it was good white noise to sleep to. The bathroom was fine, nothing special, but it did have soap holder and a decent hair dryer. We didn't make use of the fridge in the room and the tv was good. In fact, the tv had an on-demand menu of hte channels, which I appreciated. The hotel itself: parking is minimal. We were lucky to find a spot, but I could see that if the hotel was crowded that parking could be a real issue. The breakfast was basic and we didn't partake, but on a regular trip with kids, it probably would have been fine for us. getting to the hotel was easy as it's right on the access road to I-35. There's a krispy kreme down the road which made us both happy. I'd stay here again if travelling through. If you're in for the long haul, probably not the best hotel, but for a one night stop over, it's fine.

The hotel was perfect for our stay. I will stay there again. I wish I had known about it before. Our son attends Texas State University, and the hotel was clean, accommodating, and centrally located, with a great price.

A very accommodating pleasurable stay. The rooms are very clean, the beds are very comfortable, the coffee is excellent and the staff is very professional! I highly recommend Best Western San Marcos, TX., for your next hotel.

We always enjoy our stay at the Best Western in San Marcos. The staff is very friendly and helpful and it is a good value for the money. We will go back. The hotel is always clean and attractive. The breakfast is good. We stay there every time we go to San Marcos and have always been satisfied with our visit.

Our toilet over flowed for no reason at 4am!! It flooded so bad it got the carpet wet! They had to move us to a new room that was a smoking room! It smelt awful! Keep in mind this was all at 4am! The staff had attitude too! The only nice guy was the one who darted up to our room to shut the toilet off! He was very nice and helpful thank you guy. Other than that never ever going here again!!!

Nice, clean motel with indoor entrances to rooms. We stayed on the 1st floor on the side away from I-35 so it was pretty quiet. There is no elevator to the 2nd floor so ask for a 1st floor room if suitcases are heavy or mobility is an issue. Misty worked very hard to provide us with a great breakfast. Seating in the breakfast area is limited. I used the ice bucket tray to take our food back to the room. There was a mini-fridge and microwave. The staff is friendly and helpful.

I normally stay at Best Western Hotels when ever I travel and I can tell you this one did not meet or even com close to expectations. When we arrived the room (#100) was ok at first site but once I began to look around I found blood on one of the pillowcases and then the remote for the tv did not work we had to bring it to the office and have them switch it out. At first the desk attendant acted like I didn't know what I was talking about until she tried it and behold it did not work.... once back in the room I noticed a cricket on the couch we got rid of it and figured we were good for the night. Later that evening there was crickets in the bathtub, in the nook that is provided as a closet around the air conditioner.. and when I woke the next morning there were several crickets in the bed with my husband and myself. I was appalled when I went to complain I was told laughingly it was cricket season. Well I do live is Texas as well and I know cricket season but there are measures that can be taken to keep the crickets from rooms. I will not recommend this property

It is surprising how busy this place is. Arrived at check-in time and had to wait behind large group. Front desk staff was very efficient assigning rooms and only had to wait 10 minutes. Desk clerk did recognize I was a Best Western Diamond rewards member and asked if I had a room preference for first or second floor. I was staying just one night but it was nice of her to ask. Room was clean and had all necessary amenities. Bathroom also clean and noticed all towels and washcloths were tagged with Best Western logo for environmental friendly fabrics. Had not seen anything similar in stays at other Best Western properties. In room WiFi reception was good. Good sound proofing as no noise heard from adjacent rooms or hallway. Breakfast was adequate but there is room for improvement in variety. Only detraction, bed was very hard and was not comfortable for sleeping.

There are bugs all over this place. Television does not work. There were stains on 2 out of the 4 pillows. My room was very freshly painted, didn't take long to get a headache from the fumes. I found a long hair in a towel.

The front desk lady was very professional and knew guest names and asked how they liked their rooms or if they needed anything. Breakfast was decent but needed 2 waffle makers, maybe some boiled eggs for protein. After everyone went down for the night, the hotel was very quiet. Internet worked great, tv worked fine and it was very clean.
