My wife had never seen an actual drive in movie, so we booked a trip for our anniversary. Hotel only works as a novelty as the property is a little rundown. I am not sure they could do a lot with the property though, as it looks to be at the end of its life cycle. We combined the hotel with a day trip to the Great Sand Dunes as well. You can actually see the movie from your bed as advertised. They also have a basic breakfast included. The Mexican restaurant in the parking lot is actually decent.
We specifically stayed here for the novelty of watching the drive in from our hotel room. We were not disappointed. A waitress and my friend both said the sound quality was bad, but we were in Room 207 - Tom Cruise - (best room according to hotel clerk) and the sound was perfect. 207 is a king room with a connecting 206. The room was spacious with a table and two chairs, desk, microwave/fridge/dresser, and a shelf in the open closet to put suitcases. The breakfast was your run of the mill free hotel breakfast. But had a good variety from biscuits and gravy, egg of some sort, meat, waffles, cereal, fruit, toast, etc. Everything we had was good. The faults I found…there was popcorn on the window sill and in the microwave from the guest before. I expect a clean room. The wallpaper near the door was peeling and there was black behind it which I wasn't sure if it was just the wall or mold. The room is not sound proof as we could hear Room 206 tv during the movie and the alarm clock at 6am which was followed by the tv full blast. The tv was on top of the dress/microwave/fridge area and faced the opposite wall. I realize it is because the main attraction is the movie screen, but having it mounted would be nice so you can watch from the bed easier. Also it should be a rule that if you aren't watching the movie to keep your blinds closed. 206 had their lights on and it was distracting as it was reflecting into ours during the movie. Overall the stay was great, staff that we interacted with was pleasant and helpful, and watching a big screen from your room was fun.
Movie from your room. Was a great experience. Hot breakfast included. Fast, friendly check in . Good valve. Clean room, and fitness room. Easy to find playground at drive in theater. Fun to read the actors names on doors, nice views of mountains.
Don't recommend. Was told it was a queen room but bed was only double..mattress was lumpy. Breakfast was minimal and items were never refilled. Hotel is run down. Only positive was the room was clean. Didn't experience the drive in as you had to drive to it
This hotel is definitely not up to the Best Western standard! It's an old motel and not very updated. We were on the ground floor and had a baby snake by our outside mat. After relocating him a little ways away he eventually found his way back and into our room through a very poorly sealed door. This time i relocted hime to the field accross the parkig lot. The carpets weren't very clean and the room was just old. The movie was very hard to see from our room because the windows were very dirty on the outside and we had a n outside light on at the back of the motel. This hotel is quite a few miles outside of Monte Vista with nothing around it except the little Mexican restaurant. This place definitely isn't worth the money and shouldn't be a Best Western!
Very clean rooms, unique experience because you can watch a movie ( drive in style) from your room. It is in a cool mountain valley surrounded by peaks. There is a restaurant right next door that good as well. Free breakfast in the mornings as well.
An old-fashioned motel that has updated their rooms as much as possible. I was disappointed that they couldn't give me a ground floor room even though I arrived quite early. At my age (77) stairs are difficult. A nice gentleman carried my suitcase up for me but it was still uncomfortable. I wasn't able to see the movie well from my room but I wasn't that interested in it anyway. The room was very clean. Breakfast was above average.
We always stay at the Movie Manor when we go back home to Monte Vista. The service is great from the desk clerk to the maids and the breakfast. Plus enjoy being able to watch a drive-in movie from our room.
My husband is a disabled Vietnam Vet. He wanted to see the movie Horizon but has issues with sitting for long periods of time. I was assured several times that we could watch the movie from our room. $181 later the movies appear in the screen's but the only one we could hear was a child's movie. We would have to get in our vehicle and listen to the movie on the radio. That is not what I was told and was not why I paid almost $200 that was not refunded to us. We drove home extremely disappointed. I felt like a $200 hooker that spent 2 hours in a hotel room to get screwed over.
This motel is quirky and fun. Well maintained older property. The stay was great but I was told one pet fee when I called and then was charged a different one. Didn't attempt to honor the fee I was quoted but did apologize. Service is rated low because of the discrepancy, but otherwise the staff was great. Without that it would be 5's across the board.
This was a nice place to stop for the night. It is an older motel but very clean. If you are interested, I would check out the internet for the Star drive- in on which movie is being played on screen #1. The speakers are in the room with volume control.
The movie theater was cool. The room was clean would've liked more TV channel options for my daughter.
We were able to view the drive in movie right from our bedroom. It was a unique experience that you won't get anywhere else. Although the walls of the rooms are thin and you can hear neighbors, you won't be staying in your room that much because you're probably out visiting the wildlife preserves and National and State parks nearby. The room amenities were great. Comfortable bed, good shower, and plenty of room for two on a Colorado roadtrip.
We have been to countless Best Westerns, so comparing apples to apples, I'd say this one wasn't our favorite. However, the people at the desk and tending breakfast were very nice and friendly. Our room had a clean bedspread and new-looking curtains. However, the bed looked like someone had been on it after it had been made. I pulled back the sheets and didn't see any telltale signs right away, but the second night, we did find a bandage in the sheets (not ours). From other reviews, we saw issues with hot water and we did have trouble getting hot water in the afternoon, but early in the morning it seemed to be plentiful. Overall, the room just looked a bit worn and dated, but I imagine it's an older place and perhaps a full remodel just isn't practical.
The lady at check-in was a bit strange, but nice enough. We stayed in room 112 (the Jessica Lange room (all rooms are named after movie actors). The hotel is much older, but very well kept. The ceilings are super low and the bathroom is tiny, but everything was very clean. I found it a bit expensive, but the really cool thing was that there are drive in movie screens on the property; one screen you can watch from your room and they bring the sound into the room via loudspeakers (if you prefer to watch the movie on screen 2, you need to drive you car in). The quality of the picture and sound were surprisingly good. We watched the movie and really enjoyed it. It was worth our money. The bed was very good and the shower was great! Breakfast was the normal food you expect with great views.
Old Hotel, but still very nice for the unique drive-in/in-room movie experience. Has a small laundry and vending area suitable for my needs. Breakfast is decent but views of mountains at breakfast are spectacular. Stay here frequently when visiting fairly nearby Sand Dunes and Zapata Falls. Again, it's not the Ritz Carlton, but it's a neat experience in a "throw back to an older era" kind of way. Like that they name their rooms after Hollywood Actors and Actresses, kind of a creative neat touch.
Upon checkin, we immediately compained about no hot water. The owner, advised us to run the water constantly for 45 minutes. This is unacceptable to ask us to wait this long knowing that other rooms have hot water right away. I know because we rented 2 rooms and I asked my niece of they had hot water they said yes. Not us! 2nd morning I call and complain again. No offer to move us to a room with hot water. Unacceptable if you cannot provide a basic need. Unacceptable that there was no offer of a refund or discount. I HAD TO ASK and she gave me a few dollars off. That was more of an insult offering a few dollers off after I asked for one. I also told her it was unacceptable they didnt offer to move us. She didnt care. She said talk to the owner, but hes not here right now... I stay here twice a year for the last 10 years. Never again. I will dispute my credit card for BOTH rooms 100%
This is not just a night at a hotel, it's an experience! So cool to see a movie at a drive-in, just like when I was a kid, but in my pajamas from my hotel room! It was great to have free breakfast as well.
Our family has had wonderful times at Movie Manor! It's a lot of fun to be able to open the curtains of your bedroom window and see a drive-in movie! You flip a switch in the room and you can hear it with great sound! They start the movie when it's dark and you can walk or drive down to the snack bar! All the rooms are named after a movie star!
If you are looking for something fun and different this hotel is perfect. The hotel itself is pretty basic, but clean and a large room. For us the attraction was watching a drive in movie from our room.
I love staying at Best Westerns, but this is a new favorite for us. Who would of thought you could view a drive-in movie from your hotel room. Sound was excellent and it brought back some old memories of bygone days. Staff was really fantastic and the area is so peaceful. After a day of driving and then a movie, it was the end of a great day. Both of us slept like rocks.
We had a great time on our family road trip staying at Movie Manor! Was one of the best hotel experiences I have had, I love nostalgia and the whole premise of watching a drive in movie from your room with the sound piped in thrilled me. I probably would've loved it even if no movies played anymore.
Rooms are clean and comfortable. Bed was very comfortable after a day of hiking. The location of the room we were in had the lights from cars shining in our eyes while watching the movie. Curtains were black outs and worked great when we needed them to.
It's the only place we stay when we visit here, best place to stay if you're pulling a trailer. The restaurant next to it is very good for lunch and dinner and the hotel has a good breakfast spread. Highly recommended.
What a great find. We were not sure what movie view meant until we got there. Our room had a big picture window that faced the drive in screen, we had a speaker in our room and we were able to watch the movie from our room. Such a great time. The owners were very nice and the Mexican restaurant next door was great too.
Highly disappointed and the "Movie Manor" should be ashamed of themselves. Drove here to relax and watch the movie from our motel room. What they don't tell you is that only 2 rooms have a view of the screen from bed. All the other rooms you can press up to the window and peak out to may e see the screen. So disappointed and would not recommend. We travel alot and stay in motels, hotels, airbnb, etc....but could not rate this motel any lower than barely a star. VERY misleading and I can't imagine advertising a "movie manor" where 95% of the rooms can't relax comfortably in bed and see the movie. That's why you pay for the "manor" part. Quite disgusted with the misinformation and buyer beware. DO NOT COME HERE TO WATCH A MOVIE IN BED. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Just try to imagine combining an old style drive in movie with a motel and a nice Mexican restaurant. There is a children's play ground in the drive in just like the old days. Two screens and a concessions stand, step right back into the 50's. You can watch the movies from your room as there are speakers and picture windows over looking the drive in or view from your car your choice. Travel back in tine!!!
A very easy check in and we were happy with the overall experience. We were on the top floor in a room that almost looked straight onto the drive in screen, what fun! The bed was super comfortable and the room was adequate but the bathroom was tiny. The outside stairs really need some work. However the breakfast room was the best yet and the breakfast was very nice.
Very nice hotel and everything was great. Sorry we were off season so we couldn't take advantage of the drive-in movie. The view was fantastic of the mountains and the breakfast was great. It was much better than usual free breakfasts at hotels
This property is very unique with a movie theme throughout and “drive-in” movies viewable from your room in season. Staff are friendly and professional. Rooms are well appointed, comfortable and quiet.
Excited about the novelty of having a room to watch the movie from. When we checked in with a pet we were put in an out building away from the rest of the rooms and lobby. Was told we could watch the drive in movie from our car if we wished. Well after spending 7-8 hours in the car, no thanks. The building was old but did have some work done to it. Was windy when we arrived and air was whistling in around the door. Carpet was filthy had foot prints. Lamp had a short and wouldn't stay on. Couldn't get any programing on the TV had to call the desk and have someone come over, they had to reset and reconnect cable. Tub drained very slow. Terrible experience.
Stayed at the Movie Manor Motel for convenience and sentimental reasons.Originally from Monte Vista used to go to the drive-in when a child in the 1960's.Relatives are buried in the cemetery across the road.I wanted to support the motel especially after the Covid disaster.
I'm definitely coming back! We stayed in Richard Gere (hehehehehehe - Peter, Family Guy). Loved the room, loved the movie, loved the pickles and the pickle juice from the movie concessions stand..really the best pickles. Very welcoming and friendly hosts, a really nice breakfast, fast internet service, amazing views for sunrise and sunsets. Great place.
We stayed here due to the movie aspect. And it was true. We spent the evening laying in bed enjoying some wine and watching Super Pets. The only complaint was the sound sometimes clicked off/on. But the experience was good. Staff is SUPER. Mexican Restaurant next door was GREAT. Room was clean only issue was hair dryer which we reported. Also - the steps to the room (outside entrances) are a little freaky but safe - just old) We would stay here again.
This a very nice motel on the outskirts of Monte Vista. Check-in was fast and simple. The young lady at the front desk was friendly. Rooms are very nice and clean. Bathroom is a little small, but very clean. All the rooms have a big picture window facing the drive in movie screen. Just to bad it is permanently closed or you watch a movie from your bed. The breakfast room has a scenic view of the mountains. Highly recommend this motel
This is an older motel which has been upgraded. The room was clean and in good shape. The bathroom is a little small but functional. You have to go in and position yourself to shut the door. The price was reasonable, bed was comfortable, and the movies were fun. You can view the drive in from your window, but to get a better viewing they will let you take your car in for better viewing. Breakfast was the usual fare eggs, waffles etc. The place is fun was more comfortable than the IHG down the road for twice as much. Not the Hilton but a neat motel with a good resturant next door.
The carpet was so dirty we couldn't take our shoes off, window broken and not secure, towels threadbare and stained. Requested to be moved but clerk would not do it. Do not stay here under any circumstance - it was disgusting. I had to go home and sanitize every bag I took into this hotel and our shoes.
Enjoyable and fun. Allowing pets to stay is Excellent. Watching two separate movies. Allowing radio reception or piped in sound. Location allows for wonderful views. Wonderful breakfast selection with large dining room.
Room 114 doesn't have very good views of the out door screens at all. Our window was quite dirty so our view of the movie was pretty bad. The trash on the ground outside didn't enhance the movie either. We asked for a room so that we could watch the movie for grown ups and not childrens animation but were given the childrens movie so really not interested. we went for a walk in early afternoon but the pitiful chained up dog next to the movie screens pretty much ruined the happy feeling of a night at the movies. I asked about the chained up dog, no water and no food and was told it was the maintenance person and they only left the dog out there for a few minutes. No true. That dog was left out there on a very hot day for the whole time we were there. This is against the law in Colorado and just cruel. The room could have been fine but needed the filters cleaned. It is the attention to detail that let this interesting, unique hotel experience down.
Monte vista movie manor best western hotel was a horrible experience. I realize this motel is old but when I got there the room had a horrible odor. I could smell the dust on the carpet carpet was very bad on my allergies, and the bathroom was very old walls were dirty. They were little bugs on the baseboard behind the bed. I asked to see another room and the second room was worse toenail clippings on the floor very run down for $145 a night total rip off!!! I couldn't stay went to the front desk and explained my situation they could care less they still charged me for one night, but because of our health and safety my kids asthma is really really really bad and we just couldn't stay there so I had to leave find another hotel in Alamosa. I don't recommend this place and the general manager really didn't care about the situation she would not refund me my money back I can see paying some sort of fee but not a entire night plus taxes especially since my kids asthma is so severe and it was just so dusty and old and dirty especially the carpet. Not a very healthy place!!
One of our favorite places we have stayed! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. The view from our room to watch the movie was great. So comfortable!
The added attraction of the Movie Manor is getting to watch the Drive in movie out the Picture Window, The room was very nice and comfortable, perhaps remodeled since my last stay. Quick tasty breakfast is always a plus and now they have added a Mexican Restaurant next door.
The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable, restaurant on property excellent - bonus watching a movie from the room on the big screen - brilliant idea! The workout facility could have used some hand sanitizer and some of the equipment needed fixed. However the treadmill worked just fine and I had a nice 30 minutes workout!
Check in was a breeze and the person that checked us in was very informative. Our room was on the lower floor (no elevator). We had a room with a king size bed and the bed was comfortable. The room is a bit dated. I have really gotten used to usb ports on lamps and such. The room had a fridge (I had to turn it on). It kept our things that needed to be cool, cool. We thought the shower pressure was NOT sufficient. I just felt wet and not clean after taking a shower. Warning, don't let another family member open the door to the outside if you are in the shower/toilet area of the room. If a guest is walking by the room they will be able to observe said person in that area. We did try to watch Lightyear but we had the sound all the way up and with the AC going it was a bit hard to hear. We should have just got in the car and drove to the theatre. This was a one and done thing for us.
The front desk staff was very professional and helpful in accomodating us. The breakfast staff ensured a very good breakfast was served, especially the Biscuits and gravy. Watching the Drive In Theatre from our hotel room brought back many childhood memories.
This is the worst Best Western we have ever stayed in. Shame on Best Western for having this as one of their properties. It is old, smelly, small, the bathroom is a back in walk out. Not even room enought to undress or dress for/after a shower. Go somewhere else.
I had never stayed at a Best Western before so I wasn't sure of what to expect from this hotel brand. Check in was fast and friendly. The bathroom was tiny but the bed was comfortable. The hair conditioner was empty. Room was very clean and smelled fresh. Shower had great water pressure. If you get a movie view room, you can watch the drive in movie from your room. This hotel is a little bit out of the way if you are going to the Gator Farm or the Great Sand Dunes, but it's a pretty nice hotel and kept up well.
Best American experience for movie drive-in through the comfort of a hotel room. Plus pet-friendly rooms are available. We were so happy they were showing the Top Gun sequel movie. Mexican restaurant on the premise was delicious.
Love this clean, convenient pet friendly hotel! This is a godsend for pet owners on a road trip. We are so glad the best western in Alamosa was filled up- this was worth the extra 23 minute drive. Our pet friendly room was in the annex building so removed and desolate literally at the end of town. Great for walking the dogs without causing a stir. Lots of wild space. Room was very clean and spacious. We would have loved staying in the main hotel building where you can watch the movies from your room. Not sure if there are pet friendly options in the main building- we were lucky to get the last available room. The movies were Top Gun (on its first weekend) and Downton Abbey. Great picks and neat concept for a motel! Staff was friendly. Breakfast as expected. Would definitely stay here again.
My friends were not initially excited when I told them I had booked this spot, but the unique set up quickly won them over as we enjoyed some pizza and a drive-in movie from our room. OK, honestly you are not going to want to watch an entire movie from the room (the audio feed into our room had no middle ground between "way too loud" and "silent"), but it is still a nice backdrop. Room was spacious and clean, beds comfortable, shower had good water temperature and pressure, and the staff at check in/check out was friendly and helpful. Good location to spend the night whether you are just passing through the area or have business in Monte Vista or Del Norte.
This place was nice and quaint and the movie feature was really nice. It was cool to be able to lay in bed and watch a movie from the drive in. The breakfast wasn't 5 star, but was still very good and held us over until we would stop for lunch after our daily activities
I have stayed at Movie Manor 6-7 times, and it has always been a good experience. I don't usually even watch the movie out the big window (it is a unique experience, though). The big parking lot with plenty of space for trailers is great. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating, and I find the full breakfast served is delicious. Big, spacious breakfast room with huge windows looking toward the San Juan Mountains.
This was a great little hotel that combines the drive-in experience with a super clean, quiet room. You can actually watch the drive-in screen from your hotel room. Once the movie was over, it was very quiet and I slept like a rock. Breakfast was wonderful also.
Spent 3 nights here during the Sand Hill Crane migration. Excellent location for touring the San Luis Valley. Hot, quality breakfast. Comfortable bed. Reliable, consistent internet. Very clean and well maintained and bonus! We watched Batman at the adjacent drive in movie from our room. The audio is piped into the room and individually controlled. Nearby Eduardo's restaurant was excellent. Fun, comfortable, clean and friendly, courteous staff. Hits all the boxes!
We decided to try this Best Western because it is on our way to Durango. It did not disappoint. In fact it had a better breakfast and better room ammenities that our last two Marriott stays. They have two drive-in movie screens on this property. From March to October you can watch movies from you room. We will be back to try out the movie feature.
Nice place to stay while exploring the area. Decent room with comfortable bed, good shower and wifi. My stay was quiet. Staff was pleasant. Good breakfast with hot options in nice dining room. I would stay here again.
We weren't sure what to expect since this was a motel and a drive-in. It turned out to be a great place to stay and exceeded our expectations. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. Our room was very clean and the staff made sure to pre requested items were attended. They offered a wide variety of breakfast options and coffee/tea in room. A nice touch to be able to watch the movie from our room and considering it was a drive in the area was quiet. The views from were spectacular! We brought our dog with us and it was worth the extra fee. I would definitely recommend this location to friends and family.
We are fans of Movie Manor and have visited many times. This time the speakers in the room didn't function properly. It would crackle all of the time. The movie was so dark and the bed was not centered to view the film comfortable.
Clean room with a fun theme. All the rooms have plaques by the room number with movie star names and some of the room decor was film themed. You can open your curtains, sit in bed, and watch the drive in next door. Need I say more? Breakfast area was large in a separate building on the premises.
Nice clean and updated hotel. Beds were in great shape and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was in a very nice room with a very large selection. Employees are invested into their work. Enjoyable stop. Plus you get a movie!
Agree with other reviews - doesn't look like much but the rooms were fantastic - very spacious and the beds were comfortable. Loved watching the movie from the room. Speaker wasn't too loud - we had it set to the highest to hear the movie. Liked buying snacks from the concession. Breakfast was great too - all the typical hot food items but delicious.
Other than that unique feature, it really is a motel in the middle of a field, upon which you can lay in your bed and watch the movie theater. What we weren't aware, is that we could have taken our car to the screen next door and watched a different movie by tuning into the FM station. Oh well, not interested in the film being shown, so closed the curtain and found ourselves in a very average, albeit clean, motel room in Southern Colorado. Nice staff, very nice breakfast in the morning and decent prices.
We stayed at this hotel as part of a bus tour group. Apparently, some one at the travel agency had made reservations at a hotel in Alamosa and then cancelled them, leaving the travel agency scrambling to find a hotel for us to stay at. The Best Western Movie Manor was able to fulfill our needs. Our rooms were ok but the safety latch on our door was broken. These are also outside entry doors. There were patches on the wall, where damage had been done and then poorly repaired. The sink plug did not work. There was also no where to eat as the restaurant, next door has been closed for quite some time. Our tour guide talked with the owner who owns the hotel, the restaurant and the twin screened drive in theater next door. He states he plans to reopen the restaurant soon. The only options for food was for the bus to go into Alamosa, 16 miles away, to get food and gas for the bus. Many of our group opted to just eat whatever snacks and food they had in their backpacks. The ones who went, said every place they went, was closed, so they ended up buying what they could at a supermarket. the morning breakfast was very good. The windows face the twin theater screens and you have a choice of what to watch as the windows are very large and there is a sound switch in the room for you to choose which movie you prefer. We did not take advantage of this but others in the group said they did and enjoyed the movies.
I've been telling others about this place for years after I stayed here once (in the winter) for work. It is a unique experience. The beds are much improved since my last stay, and it looks like the on-site restaurant has been closed for a long time. The sound didn't work for screen #1 so we watched screen #2 . As a rule I HATE hotels that do not have a fan or a window in the bathroom, because who wants to smell bathroom smells? I LOVE that this place has both exhaust fans and windows in the bathroom. There were tons of places to eat outside, and the ice machine was located in the middle of the hotel. Parking was easy.
I love the fact that I could watch a drive-in movie from my hotel room. It is a definitely a one of a kind experience. What made it even more special is I was able to bring my dog. The pet fee is very reasonable. I enjoyed the movie. We watched Don't Breathe 2. I also saw the previews for Top Gun Maverick playing as an upcoming film. I thought this would be a fantastic movie to watch from this hotel. The only down side to this experience was the sound system. The speaker stopped playing during the commercials. Then I called the front desk and found out that I could listen into the movie using the radio in the room. That worked well until about 15 minutes prior to the end of the movie when the original speaker began to work. The volume for the speaker was lower than the radio. I wish there was an option to listen from my cell phone or another wireless speaker that customers could bring to their hotel room.
Being able to watch a movie from your bed was cool!! A Great location on the edge of town! Pillows were small. Very friendly staff at check-in. No elevator if you get a second floor room and you need your room key to get to the ice machine.
Nice, clean hotel. Staff very friendly! Good breakfast with lots of options. The only thing we will do differently is call the hotel directly to book vs online (staff helpful hint!). Our room wasn't the best for 2 people watching the movie from bed. They were however very willing to change our room, but there wasn't anything available that fit what we were looking for.
We were in room 124. It's a handicapped room. Spacious. The room was a little "dated," but comfortable. This place features the ability to watch a drive-in movie from one's room. While it is true that you can see the outdoor screen from the room, it is far enough away that it is hard to make out the movie well. If detail matters in the movie, forget it, you won't see it. As for sound, there were no issues. We could hear it, or we could turn it off. We opted for sleep. Front desk people are friendly. Housekeeping was excellent. Breakfast was acceptable for a hotel of this price range: edible, tasty, but nothing stood out. the room was quiet, but we could hear sounds above us early in the night, but then it stopped before 10 p.m. Be aware that there is no elevator and it has two floors, if you cannot handle stairs.
We stayed here 2 times before and had good experiences. Our last not so much…The front desk checkin girl was very friendly, good WiFi, and a clean room. But….the sound switch for the movie was stuck in the loudest position and wouldn't lower. We stayed here to see the movie from our room and couldn't and didn't want to get in the car and drive to see it. Our other family stayed in the room next to us and said the toilet wasn't even seated onto the floor properly. It was rocking and not sealed at the base. When we checked out we were told that “oh yeah some of the switches for the movie sound are old and need to be replaced” and as far as the toilet it was “ok”” if you know there are problems then fix them before you rent out the room..!! and oh yeah and the I don't really care attitude doesn't help. Oh by the way bring your binoculars to your room if you want to see the movie.
Definitely a unique hotel experience! We got to watch a new release movie (Jungle Cruise), complete with movie theater popcorn from the concession stand. While we could have stayed in our room to watch the movie (there's an in-room speaker), the screen was a little far away, so we chose to take our car. The room was large, with a microwave and mini-fridge, and everything was clean, if a little dated. The rooms are on an outside walkway, with no elevator to the 2nd floor, so if that's an issue, ask for a ground floor room. The breakfast was so-so. On the morning we were there, the hot option was scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, along with waffles and assorted breads, pastries, yogurt, cereal, etc.
My stay at Best Western Movie Manor was a mixed bag, but in the end I would not choose to stay here again. First the good...The front desk personnel were very kind and accommodating. The hotel is old, but they have updated it pretty well. I found my room to be clean and comfortable. The breakfast offerings were really good and would meet the needs of just about anyone. The bad...I had a lower middle room. The view of either screen was quite distant. When I tried to get sound in my room it didn't work. The one thing that makes this hotel unique and special, the reason I chose this hotel over others that were cheaper and closer to my destination, and I couldn't watch either movie. Disappointing to say the least. I stay in 25-30 hotels a year, and I rarely have reason to not return to a place I've stayed. I would not stay at the Best Western Movie Manor again.
Novel concept of viewing drive in from you room, however, the rooms are horrible, dated, smelly, and EXPENSIVE. Although the front check in person will lie to you, the only decent view is middle top floor. We booked 3 rooms with family and she spread us out so rooms were not even close together, even though we requested and were some of the first to check in. Only had view of drive in from one room. Front desk staff was not accomodating AT ALL and didn't even try. No food left at breakfast at 8 am so get there early.
This hotel was amazing! We had a great room with a perfect view of the movie screen. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. If you're passing through the area I would highly recommend staying here
My husband and I reserved a room on 7/18/2021 because we wanted to relax and enjoy a movie - this place looked like fun. But when we arrived, we were refused a room (despite that we had paid for it) because we live in the wrong town. Nowhere on this website or on the Best Western Movie Manor website does it say that they refuse people for living in certain towns. After much stress and complaints to hotels.com and the owner of the hotel, I did receive a refund for the room I was refused this morning (7/20/2021)
We arrived after a long days drive. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was like choosing from a menu in a restaurant. Waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, toast, bagels, fruit, juice, yogurt, coffee and more. Everything was good fresh and hot.
Went to the hotel to enjoy the Drive in movie in a way never experienced. But the sound system made it in possible to understand what was going on. Unless they fix the sound system I would just skipping the hotel and just go to the drive in instead
We love Movie Manor, a hidden gem that we visit every summer. I recommend to EVERYONE to make Movie Manor a destination for a cool and enjoyable visit to stay at a tidy motel and enjoy a movie on the drive in theater! Movie Manor has been clean and tidy for the almost 15 years I have been visiting and everyone should make a stay and experience this truly unique property! It is the reason I became a Best Western Rewards member. Always great!
I was traveling by myself on a road trip to Colorado, and was looking for a safe and clean place for my small dog and I to spend the night. I contacted the hotel and the desk clerk said they had a pet friendly room. What they don't tell you is that, if you have a pet, they will often move you into to a stand-alone structure that is away from the main property. The "annex" room was not clean, and I did not feel safe at all in what they referred to as "the annex." When I requested to be moved to an inside room, the desk clerk said that they didn't want a pet in the main facility. This obviously should have been disclosed when I booked. She refused to move me to the main building, and refused to give me a refund. They literally sent me away, a weary traveler, to find somewhere else to stay after midnight. (I actually back-tracked 30 minutes to a place where I felt safe). To top it off, the vending machine at the hotel took my quarters but didn't dispense anything, and she refused to give me a refund for that either. UPDATE - I later spoke with the Owner, Roy. He apologized for my experience and actually REFUNDED my money for the stay. (I forgot to ask him about the vending machine ... sigh). Years ago, I stayed here with my same little dog, and stayed in the main building, which made this doubly confusing. Bottom line - confirm when you book whether you will be in the main building or "the annex." They are not the same, and this is not always disclosed to you when you book.
This place is a bit old but very clean. The staff were masked all times and encouraged the same. Comfortable for a family. If you are planning to go to sand dunes park, this is almost an hour away drive each way. The doors would not close on its own and needed to be pulled for it to lock.
What a great hotel! Spotlessly clean, spacious room with all we needed. Great check in and check out procedures. The breakfast was one of the best of our trip, too. So many hotels are using Covid to provide a good breakfast, but not this one. We didn't watch the movie, but that didn't matter. We loved our stay!
I was traveling by myself on a road trip to Colorado, and was looking for a safe and clean place for my small dog and I to spend the night. I contacted the hotel and the desk clerk (Brittney) said they had a room, and that they were pet friendly. What they DON'T tell you is that, if you have a pet, they shun you and move you out of the main building to a stand-alone shed-type structure that is away from the main property. The room was not clean, and upon arriving, I did not feel safe at all in what they referred to as "the annex." When I requested to be moved to an inside room, the new on-duty desk clerk (Brooke, after a shift change) first claimed that they didn't have one, then she said that they did have two but they were booked (really, you were expecting me to believe multiple travelers were arriving after midnight(?), and then she said what was likely the truth - that they didn't want a pet in the main facility. This detail obviously should have been disclosed to me when I booked. After much discussion, she refused to move me to the main building, and refused to give me a refund. They literally sent me away, a very weary traveller, alone on the road, forced to try to find somewhere else to stay after midnight. This is one of the WORST experiences I have ever had. Since they don't tell you this important detail when you book a room, hopefully this review will save other travellers from being victimized by the same bait-and-switch scam. To top it off, the vending machine at the hotel took my quarters but didn't dispense anything, and they refused to give me a refund for that either.
The hotel is dated, the in-room sound didn't work, and the room was incredibly dirty. I would highly recommend staying anywhere else. COVID 19 Guidelines were not followed at ALL. I was really disappointed because this is somewhere I've wanted to stay for years. It was a complete let down.
My family of four stayed here while traveling between the San Juan mountains and Great Sand Dune NP. Really unique place. Older motel but very clean and well-kept. Really plays up the movie theme with drive-inn screens visible and audible from rooms. Each room named after a movie star and art work in rooms honors classic Hollywood. Comfy beds, yummy breakfast, cool place.
We stayed here one night while vacationing between Great Sand Dunes NP and Mesa Verde NP. Having the ability to watch a movie on a drive-in screen, either from your room or from your car, was pretty neat. There's a speaker system in the room or you can tune your alarm clock's radio to the station it's being broadcast on. There were two movie options but we only had a good view of one screen. During our 8 days through Colorado this was the only hotel to serve a hot breakfast...and it was very good!
The facility was clean, cute and quaint. Drive in movies might be one of a kind. We did catch a movie while there. Breakfast was awesome for a hotel, especially during Covid. They had meat, eggs, bread, fruit, waffles, etc. Our fridge didn't work which was a bummer, but we had a cooler so made do.
Very nice hotel. Accepted my dogs. Breakfast was standard fare. Sitting room was very clean. Breakfast was hot and fresh. Everything worked. Showers were excellent (great pressure, excellent water quality). Movies were a pleasant bonus.
This particular BW facility was excellently staff and functioning as a team for the betterment of their guests. Movie was appropriate for all. Breakfast was excellent. Back to pre-Covid19 standards but with the Covid19 safety protocols. Felt safe and secure.
Our room was named: Jessica Lange. Nice room more importantly it was CLEAN! What a fun idea for a different type of hotel! And a very hearty, full of options yummy breakfast. We met a lot of nice people also staying there. It was so nice to step out of the typical mundane boring hotel stay. When we make it back to Monte Vista this will be our spot! Happy to have had the experience there!
Fantastic experience staying here during a road trip across the US. Hotel was clean and the movie theme was super cute. We got in too late for the movie but I wish we had been able to arrive earlier to see it. Met so many friendly travelers at breakfast and in the parking lot walking their dogs. Pretty solid basic hotel chain breakfast included. View of mountains from parking lot was beautiful. Felt very safe and would stay here again!
Not what we expected. Trying to watch a movie from your room is not what you would expect. We could not see the movie with out setting in chairs or going to the drive in in our car and were tired from driving all day and just wanted to relax. Don't waste your money or time to stay here so you can watch a movie. Breakfast was not very good either.
Enjoyed this location very much. Great room with a view of the evening's movie (just released this weekend). The couple who run this hotel; run the movie; cook snacks at the movie and ran the hot breakfast in the morning. All are done well. Great job.
Motel was cutely designed around a movie theme and the drive in move view was just ideal. You could either watch the movie from your room or in your car (with old fashion speakers) in the movie parking lot. Concession stand had plenty of movie watching food and treats. Such a neat place to stop. Breakfast bar was fully stocked and dining area was clean.
I spent 2 sleepless nights in room 107, which is nextdoor to the hot water heater. Pipes banging all night kept me awake. They obviously need to install a Thermal Expansion Tank. Staff was unresponsive and accepted no responsibility for problems. Also, someone else's hair was in my shower. The heater put out a horrible odor. Grab-and-go breakfast was terrible. Internet very slow. Cannot reasonably see the outdoor movie screen from room- too small at that distance.
First and foremost, even though this is an older hotel, it is super clean and pretty updated. It has a surprising number of amenities including a fitness center (with older, but quite serviceable equipment). The best part is laying in bed and being able to watch the movie playing at the attached drive in theater. There is a switch on the wall if you want to watch the movie and the sound comes in through a speaker on the ceiling. You are a bit away from the screen, but it is a fun thing to do. The consession stand is a short distance away and you can get all of your movie snacks to go along with the movie. The staff is super friendly. The room itself is very clean. The bed is comfortable (not too soft, not too firm). Great breakfast available in the morning. During COVID they had a grab and go breakfast which actually included a warm egg dish, which tasted like it was made with fresh eggs (not powdered). Logistically, it is about an hour away from the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, so it is a good home base if you want to visit the park. It is pet friendly (though most of the pet friendly rooms do not have movie views -- but you can use your room key to drive in for free).
GREAT concept. The Movie Manor is a interesting place to stay. We enjoyed the vintage feel of the hotel and the "Drive In". It was fun. Room was clean but a little dated. The staff was super friendly!!
Nice big clean room built around a freaking Drive Inn!! How awesome and unique!! Hotel was nice and quiet with an awesome to go breakfast and great coffee! The owners and staff go out of their way to make you happy!
This is a great concept for a motel! The rooms overlook a drive in theater and the rooms have the option to pipe in the sound if you choose to watch from the comfort of the bed! The rooms are a bit dated but worked out just fine for our needs! It was also a very quiet room. It's rare for me to not need to use noise cancelling ear buds in a hotel and I ended up leaving them behind by not using them. Currently with covid protocol, they give a brown bag breakfast if you choose. It had a small omelette, banana, yogurt and mini muffins. I really appreciated the soap/shampoo dispensers in the shower instead of the little wasteful bottles.
I was traveling with my 3 pre-teen grandkids; the Movie Manor was great. The kids really wanted a pool, however, being able to watch a drive-in movie from our room replaced that right away. The room was clean, check-in and check-out were simple. Thanks for a comfortable evening!
I'm a real fan of the Movie Manor. The people are fantastic! The rooms are A-1, clean as a whistle, with big, comfy beds. The unique nature of having the movies is a cool extra, but this motel stands on its own even without it. It's really quiet here, with easy access to all of the area attractions. I'll stay here every time!
A clean and professional BW with all sorts of fun Hollywood details, and the option of trying to watch a drive-in movie through the room window. Gorgeous mountain view out of the rooms and parking area.
Our room was the cleanest motel room we've ever had! The room was large and had everything we could need: dinette, desk, TV, dresser, closet, iron, ironing board, microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot w/coffee & tea, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, blow dryer, etc. The bed was very comfortable and all of the furniture was in good shape. The parking is right outside each door and the area felt safe. The staff was friendly, the modified breakfast (due to COVID restrictions) was surprisingly good, and everything was so clean. We hope to return in the summer to try the drive-in movie view from the rooms!
I was here for one night. The movie theater was closed at the time. This is a very tired motel, but it was okay for a single night. The bed needed to be replaced. All the doors opened to the outside, which made access to my vehicle easy. There is ample parking. There is nothing within walking distance of this motel and you have limited dining options in the small nearby town.
I had hit a deer and needed to stay for 2 nights before I can get a rental car. AND it was snowing/raining. The girl helped me up the outside stairs with my bags. The place is not new but the bedding and entire room were clean. It was quiet. I could have used another wash cloth and the shampoo dispenser in shower was empty, but that is a minor problem. The grab and go breakfast was sufficient and the coffee was surprisingly good.
I stayed here a few times as a kid...it's been 20+ years. It was dated then, but I saw that it had been renovated and under new management. I thought it would be fun to bring my kids here on our way through Colorado and let them watch a movie on the big screen from the room. We got an accessible room as it was the pet friendly one from which we could view the movie. This is going to sound pretty negative to start, but these are general cleanliness things I noticed. I checked sheets (I always do) and those appeared clean and bed was well-made. However, the walls had multiple stains on them (that a good scrub/wipe down could take care of), there were a good bit of crumbs around the bottoms of the beds I noticed immediately when I walked in, the carpets looked like they really needed a better vacuuming and a shampoo (I found an old pill on the floor), there were hand and face(?) smudges on the long mirror, a broken lamp shade, and a broken wood panel that kept falling off the side table. Most of theses things I noticed as time went during our stay and none were “deal breakers” (like dirty sheets would have been), so I didn't mention it during our 2 night stay. We really only slept there as we were out-and-about most of the day. I did find a small black spider in my bed on first check and my husband brushed a black widow off his head that came out of a clean towel...which, I know is just a random thing, and it's Colorado and there are bugs, but I didn't notice any other bugs, so maybe just need a pest spray for spiders, or maybe we were just unlucky in that regard. Positives: the beds and pillows were really comfortable. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean. Good water pressure in the shower. The room smelled very nice when we walked in. The fridge, microwave, and TV all worked well and looked pretty new/were clean. The manager was very pleasant and helpful. We used the laundry room which was clean and had good machines for a good price. The movie was a bit hard to see from our room unless sitting at the table, but the sound came through very well and we enjoyed it. Honestly, if a few of those cleanliness things hadn't been there I would have a much better review. Maybe something I might expect if I was paying $70 a night...but not $110. Those are all easy things to fix, though, so I would at least give them another shot. Maybe we just got the one-off.
My husband and I stayed 2 nights with our car club. The hotel is dated but we felt it was very clean. We were impressed with the general manager and the entire staff! They were very accomodating. Due to COVID they had one person go to the front desk to pick up your breakfast for your room, which was a scrambled egg, banana and yogurt. Coffee maker, fridge & microwave was in the room. The drive in movie next store was great (that's part of the hotel) and the concession stand was fun. You can even stream the movie sound and watch it from your room! The staff wore masks, gloves and were extremely friendly. I reccomend staying here because we felt you got great value & awesome customer service!!!
The management of this motel was outstanding! They bent over backwards to support our group during our two night stay. If you are staying in Monte Vista, this is the best place to stay and a great value for the money!
If you love drive-in movies like I do then you have to stay at this unique hotel! You can watch a drive-in movie from your room, which has to be a one of a kind experience in the USA! Great location, helpful staff, and clean hotel. The post-Covid hot breakfast was surprisingly good!
Stayed the night of Sept. 9th, 2020. Very interesting concept, hotel and drive-in movie. The hotel was clean and the beds were FIRM. The drive-in is located next to the hotel and the 2 screens can be see from your room window. sound was directed to speaker in the room, if you wanted popcorn and soda you had to go to the concession stand just like normal. My main issue with the hotel is that we forgot that we left items in the refrigerator. I called the next day to get them shipped to us, as of Sept 25th have not received the items. Called the hotel and was told that they were shipped a couple of days ago, so still waiting. The real problem is that we left medication (in a pint container), grapes (in a quart container) and 2 ice box coolers in the refrigerator. The staff said that the only thing that was found was the medication. The grapes I can understand not getting back but the 2 ice box coolers were for the medication. If the medication was there, what happened to the other items???
Rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom had a funky smell, like a public pool locker room, but this didn't hinder our stay. The main screen is pretty far from the movie view rooms & the 2nd screen.. there's no way you'd be able to sit comfortably in your room & watch the movie. You still have the option to sit in your car & view the movie from outside. Concession stand was decent, burgers, fries, popcorn etc. There is a playground for the kids to play on, in front of the main screen. It looks like a playground you would see after a nuclear bomb had dropped;all metal, seesaw, seesaw swing set. No matter the look, we all had fun playing around on it & enjoying sturdy, no longer found play gear. Be careful, there are a lot of those round, stickers that stick to the bottom of your shoes. We tracked a bunch of them in to our room. My in-laws had a pet room which is a detached building of rooms opposite the movie viewing rooms. Vending machines didn't work but maybe because of COVID, it's not a priority. We had a great time & def would stay if ever in Monte Vista again.
We were happy to visit this unique hotel just outside Monte Vista on our tour through the San Luis Valley. It's connected to a full-service drive-in theater with the twist that guests of the hotel can watch the movies from their rooms. All of the rooms face the twin screens of the drive-inn. We could see both films playing the night we visited, although, because we are on the farthest south room, the angle to the southernmost screen was very tight. Depending on the film you prefer, you may seek a room with the better angle on the film you want to see. Because of the COVID-19 situation, the two films showing were not first run, but included a Disney film for the kids and one of the latest Star Wars features. The outsides of the windows were dustier than we would have liked but we could nonetheless see the movies adequately. Our room was clean and well-appointed, which is standard for the Best Western brand. Visitors may want to call ahead to find out what movies are playing during their visit.
Conveniently located just outside of town. A fairly typical Best Western but you also get to watch a movie at the drive-in theater from the comfort of your room. A speaker with controls is mounted in the room that gives pretty decent sound for the movie. The theater also has a concession stand so you can take snacks back to the room if you wish.
This Best Western property is a piece of 1970s movie nostalgia with the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada panorama to the south. Upon arrival, you'll see an open parking lot with two drive-in screens. They show a current movie every night at dark (8:30 pm in the summer), but call ahead to check what's on. The two-storey motel has double queen and king rooms with large picture windows that face the drive-in movie. Don't expect decor or frills, you are there for the retro ambiance. Each guest room is named for a movie star and has a built-in movie speaker with wall control dial for volume. Imagine going to the drive-in movie and having your own bathroom! King rooms have the bed oriented to the screen so that you can actually sit in bed and watch the movie. In the queen room, you can lie across the bed or arrange chairs in the room but the view is just as good. This is a family-owned business and the manager takes special care to pay for current movies whenever they are available. Traveler tip: contact the motel in advance to find out the dates of upcoming movies in order to plan when you want to book your stay (in Fall 2020 they plan to show Mulan live action). The owners open up the concession stand nightly to serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, popcorn and beverages which is more than expected for the size of establishment (Cash only or Charge to Room). Breakfast was grab n go but hearty including homemade burrito, fruit, yogurt, coffee. Recommend you skip the in-room coffee as the brew in the lobby is good coffee with proper cream. The best way to drive here from Denver is via Colorado's most scenic Highway 285. If you arrive mid-afternoon with time to spare, allow 3-4 hours for a Sand Dunes excursion before the movie is scheduled to start. Please note: this property is located in Monte Vista, CO, and is over an hour west of Sand Dunes (some marketing indicates erroneously that the hotel has proximity to Sand Dunes). You can visit Sand Dunes if you allow enough time.
We spent 6 days at this location while visiting my brother. the staff was friendly. It was a neat experience watching a movie from the room. It wasn't the greatest view but it worked. We didn't get to try the breakfast because of there COVID policy. They handed you a bag with very little in it. Other hotels were still serving breakfast, but this hotel was not.
We were looking forward to watching movies from our king bed...well, that didn't work. We couldn't see either screen from the bed, we had to sit on chairs and look through the quite dirty window. And this was the second room after we requested a different room after checking out the view from first one. The young woman at the front desk was not overly friendly either. On the plus side, the room was quite clean - except for that window, which is a key thing when trying to watch a movie through it!
If you are staying so you can see a movie or a concert, from a hotel room, don't. The speaker in the room buzzes, they told us we could use the alarm clock radio to tune in on the stations. The radio did not work, they did find a portable radio(1970 ?) with a coat hanger for an antenna. The antenna did not work but we could hear if no one talk. The room was clean, well-kept.
Management/?owner was very pleasant and went out of his way to assist me, After wondering about the hours at a local restaurant, he called them and let me know It is an older hotel and I could hear the water running when upstairs guest was showering, did not bother me as I was up early anyway
I stayed for one night. The reception is clean and spacious and the person checking me in explained everything succinctly without taking up too much of my time. The room is very basic, but so was the price. It was spotlessly clean and everything worked. Decor was better than the usual corporate boredom. Breakfast was standard for properties in this range, but with a superb view of the mountains from the dining area. Be aware - like many properties in this price range - sound insulation is non-existent. The heating comes off and on through the night so if you're a light sleeper, it may bother you. It is 2.5 miles outside the small town of Monte Vista.
Clean, well-kept and so cool that it's attached to a drive in movie! We were able to watch the movie from our room. Breakfast was the only thing that I wasn't totally impressed with. The space was very crowded. The food was what you expect from a continental breakfast, adequate. Hotel was close to town and the wildlife refuge. Will return next year!
This is one of the best unique places to stay period. Where else could u watch movies from your hotel bed, right out your huge picture window and sound is tapped into ur room. Then there is the hotel itself yes it is a little dated but that adds to its charm all rooms are named after movie stars and the rooms themselves are really well done with nice amenities like huge fridge, microwave, outlets on lamps, comfy beds and flat screen T.V. the staff is friendly and accommodating.
Nice room, great price, nice staff, clean. Management put the few occupied rooms adjacent to each other which was convenient for the staff but not for us when the late-arrivals next door had a fight until 4am. Please space people out when you can to avoid this.
A motel that is also a drive in Theater. With a picture window to watch the movie. unfortunately movies are seasonal and we were not in the right season. I guess most people dont go to a drive induring winter. Also Breakfast was teriffic!
I travel often due to the scope of my job. As I was heading to Del Norte for business. I had no idea where to stay. My coworker suggested the Movie Manor. There is a big outdoor movie screen and during the summer season, you had the ability to watch a movie from your room. Unfortunately, I was traveling in the winter, but I could see the appeal. The front desk agents were extremely friendly, courteous and knowledgeable about the area. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. In nearby Del Norte, Three Barrel Brewery is on the main street and serves wood fired pizza which was a plus along with their selection of beers. I plan on coming back to MM and will bring my family and dog as this motel is pet friendly as well.
I was happily surprised at how nice the rooms were, very comfortable bed. Breakfast is wonderful, everything from oat meal, cereal, waffles, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, yogurt, juices, bagels toast etc. And the view at breakfast is fabulous. I extended my stay because the place and staff were wonderful.
Funky. The concept of having most of the rooms be able to see a drive-in movie theater screen and to pipe in the sound was what interested me in staying here. After I booked, I discovered that when I would be there was out-of-season for the theater and nothing would be showing. The decor is dated (think 80s) and the bathroom is tiny. I don't believe the tub was full-size and the toilet also was small, albeit functioning. The woman at the desk steered me to a great steakhouse back in Monte Vista, which offers a $13.95 prime rib meal on Fridays and Saturdays; and a $10.95 rib eye steak dinner on Monday through Thursdays--a two-item menu. The hotel is actually a couple of miles west of Monte Vista, sort of out in the country, and thusly, is quiet. Although located on a U. S. highway, when I was there in November, the traffic was very light and the rooms are located far enough off the highway that I never heard any traffic noise at all. That could change in warm, tourist months as this highway connects a couple of national parks. The breakfast was fairly typical of Best Western hotels, with eggs, sausage (or was it bacon?), cereals, fruit, juices, yogurt, etc.. Given the cramped bathroom, I don't think that I'll go out of my way to stay there again as the Best Western in Alamosa is about 16 miles away and much more roomy and modern.
Don't let the accents on the phone fool you. The Owners, Mr & Mrs Patel truly care about their unique property and take pride in their customer service and it is apparent that they are trying hard to maintain an aged property and they are doing a great job. I love the Drive IN Option and idea. Keep up the good work! This is the 3rd time we have stayed here over the last few years and the updates really show. I pointed out a tilted step to the second floor and Mr Patel wanted good detail on the exact location so he could get to it the same day. It would be nice to have the movie show a second time or have a different movie showing so we wouldn't have to be in the room by 8 to catch a movie.
Old school hotel with rooms updated to new. Only thing we usually do not like is entrance doors were on the parking lot. Would like to have b3een able to see a movie from the drive in next door, but the drive in was closed for the season.
I was looking forward to this experience but was, sadly, disappointed. We could have gotten better rates and a nicer room at other hotels but made a point of staying here for the experience of watching a drive-inn movie from our hotel room. The fun of this experience ended with the celebrity name above our room number. The window was dirty and the view from our room was awkward. The sound was terrible! Difficult to understand...loud, tinny, scratchy. Gave me a headache. Stay away from the snack bar unless you enjoy being overcharged while someone piddles about and you miss the first 1/2 hour of your movie! The room quality was in line with a Super 8 or something of that sort. Things worn, broken, or not working. AC was like a locomotive. If you are coming here for the experience of watching a drive in from your hotel room--don't! Skip it and spend your money on another experience. If you want a value hotel for your money, you should probably try a different hotel. Just considering the hotel room alone, I found the room to be WAAAAYYYYYYY overpriced. This establishment is not centered around the customer; it's centered around getting as much money with as little effort as possible. Lazy w/out love or an understanding of why people are booking a stay with them. I wish I could have experienced this under the orignial ownership when there was vision and joy and whimmsy.
When we checked in, we were given a room that was already occupied, so had to go back and get another room assignment. The room itself was clean and adequate. If your reason for staying there is the movie, beware. The screen was so dark we could barely see it, and the in room speaker was very scratchy, so we couldn't hear it even if we wanted to. It was disappointing that both screens showed children's movies, which they said was all they show. Even though it was the middle of the week AND school was in session everywhere.
We stayed at the Movie Manor and thought it was very charming. The original owner certainly had a creative vision 50 years or so ago, with this Mom and Pop style motel and Drive-In Theater. You can comfortably view the movie screen from just about every room, all the while lounging in your bed. The room was basic yet clean. Hotel staff very friendly and hospitable. Breakfast was very good also. Definitely recommend to travelers who want something unique.
Stayed for one night as part of our road trip. Picked this hotel based on TA reviews. Did not really know what to expect but wow ,what a place. Really well looked after hotel , our room was spotless ,everything worked fine. The drive in movie was great -you don't get things like that in the UK. The breakfast was superb in the morning and all the staff we saw were delightful. Well done BW MM
What a great place to stay! The rooms were clean, the property well taken care of and an extra bonus - a drive-in movie that you can watch in the comfort of your own room. Additionally, the breakfast was good
We had great fun watching movie from our room. Staff was great and very friendly and informative. Beautiful new lobby area. Room was comfortable. Hotel is easy to find and to get to. We enjoyed our stay.
Each time we travel to Alamosa Colorado, we make it a point to get a room in Monte Vista, at the BW Movie Manor. We have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean, large, and we are always placed on second floor based on our request. The rooms generally face one drive in movie screen, with a speaker located in the room. On this trip, we had a great view of both movie screens. The clock radio in the room helped us to pick up the audio from the other movie screen. We were then able to decide which movie to watch. The movies are feature movies playing in theaters nationwide. We've never encountered loud guests, or disruption during our stays. The hotel provides breakfast, in a nice room with beautiful views of the mountains.
This was such an enjoyable stay with our two German Shepherd s. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are upgraded and the movie experience through the room is great. Bonus are great sunsets of the San Juan Mountains in the background.
We enjoyed our overnight stay at Movie Manor. Watched the Lion King from our room. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Roy, the owner was expecially nice, and spent some time telling us about the location and the events that take place there. We enjoyed the breakfast. There were many items to choose from. ( The biscuits and gravy were great.) We would definitely stay there again if in the area.
We found the Best Western Movie Manor to be a delightful treat. Clean and comfortable, if basic motel rooms. Located just west of Monte Vista, the reason for staying is the next door drive in. Most of the rooms have a clear view to one of the two screens of the drive in movie next door, with the sound piped into the room. In our case, the movie we wanted to see was not the one in line with our room. No problem, show your room key at the entrance of the drive-in, and voila, free admission! We had a great time at Movie Manor! The breakfast room has a wonderful view of the mountains to the west, and the breakfast had ample choices of hot meals and more continental choices. WARNING! Pet friendly rooms are not in the main buildings, and have no view of the drive in, so fair warning if your bringing a pet with you on your stay.
Great little spot with a drive in that you can watch from your room (they pump in sound through a speaker in the room). Our room was clean and the staff was very friendly. Typical breakfast for its hotel class.
Beware of the horrors of this movie! The pet friendly rooms are far away from the main hotel and you get NO movie view. The room was full of flies, at least 2 dozen, the I had to kill before going to sleep. The mattress was old and they had put a pad on it to try and hide this fact. The eggs during breakfast were under cooked and not "right". EXPENSIVE for what it is. 20 dollar pet fee didn't get you anything special really. Just a room far away from the main building and amenities therein. Water pressure wasn't very good and the toilet was loose. The bed clothes and pillows were old and the throw pillow was smelly and very flat (old). Same with the bedspread. The carpet was strained. The toilet wasn't cleaned after my first day there. The staff was uncaring about any concerns I brought to their attention (bad egg taste flies in room etc.) Don't even waste your time here.
We were planning a scenic motorcycle ride down to this area and particularly picked this place for its unique offering - to watch a drive-in movie from the comfort of our own room. If they aren't going to situate the room so that you can see the screen from the bed (see the photo for our view), it would be appreciated if they also provided some comfy chairs to sit in. So, we just ended up watching tv. The room appeared to be clean and service was prompt and friendly. They should just make it an option to be sure you get a room with a view of the screen if that's what you came for. Otherwise you might be disappointed.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner who was very accomadating. My wife made the reservations because of the uniqueness of watching a drive in movie from your room. The motel is not flashy on the outside, but the room had been updated. The room was very clean. If in the area again we would stay here.
It was recommended we stay here and I'm glad we did. The room was clean, breakfast was good and staff was nice. They were playing the new Lion King movie, which was a hit with our kids!! Being able to watch a drive-in movie from your room is an awesome idea! We will definitely stay here again when we're in the area.
My family has stayed at the Movie Manor hote several times and it keeps getting better. It is so much fun to watch a 1st rate drive-in movie from the comfort of our room in our pj's. The kids loved it!!
The room was clean, quiet, had a decent bed and everything worked. Breakfast is decent if it is the usual fare, of scrambled eggs, waffles But they did have sausage gravy and biscuits. Just outside of town which is a nice change.
We specifically drove to the motel because of the hype of it being a "drive-in movie" motel. We had to call the desk to have our tv fixed when we got there. The clerk was prompt and pleasant. We could not see the movie from our bed and were not told that when checking in. We had to sit in the uncomfortable chairs to look out the window to see the movie. It was like watching it on a small, poor quality tv. The sound went out during the previews and then twice more within the first 15 minutes of the movie. We just gave up at that point. Bathroom is extremely small and uncomfortable.
The staff were very conscientious and friendly. The room was a good size and you could tell it had been updated recently. The beds were comfortable and the heating and air units worked great. The breakfast that they offer was fantastic and there was always delicious coffee available no matter what time we made it to the breakfast room. All items were well stocked. The fitness room was small but definitely more than adequate for our needs. All in all a great experience and I feel the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant! We would stay there again.
This place is a haven for local meth addicts and crackheads who hang outside the rooms and in vehicles in the parking lot. This is not a safe or family friendly environment. The sound at the drive-in movie went out. The TV did not work. There was pubic hair in the bathroom. More like Worst Western.
Attractive rooms with movie theme. Adjacent drive-in movie that can be viewed from room, with sound in room. Very nice staff. Good breakfast selection. Breakfast room has beautiful view of San Juan Mountains.
**PET ROOMS ARE NOT MOVIE VIEW** Guests with pets will be housed in the annex, a separate building on the back side of the hotel with no view of drive-in screens. **PET POLICY IS $20 PER PET PER DAY** This will significantly add to the cost of your stay. **STAR DRIVE-IN SCREEN 1 IS VISIBLE FROM ALL ROOMS; SCREEN 2 IS VISIBLE (OBLIQUE ANGLE) FROM SOME ROOMS)** Disappointed that screens weren't visible from beds in the room; had to move chairs and sit on edge of bed to view. Fun way to take family to the drive-in with little ones that can't stay up so late. Movie started just after 9 pm in mid-July. Movie speaker in the room had volume settings 1-10, which ranged from blasting to ear-pounding. Struggled to set volume somewhere a hair above setting zero that didn't rupture ear drums. Room was spacious and clean. Mini fridge was spotless and ice-free. Breakfast options were great: scrambled eggs, bacon, hot waffles, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal, boiled eggs, yogurt, cereals, toast, pastries, juice, coffee. Fitness center appeared to be a treadmill in an empty guest room. Playground was old-time metal equipment (swings, teeter-totter, monkey bars, merry-go-round) across the lot underneath drive-in screen 1. TV channels were very limited, with nothing for young children. Please add at least PBS kids' channel! Remote control would change channels, but not turn on TV or control volume (had to use buttons on TV).
Overall, our stay was comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The cable TV was great but Internet was sketchy. The walls are thin so for 2 nights the noise of water running or toilets running kept us from getting a good night's sleep. We were on the bottom floor, 2 rooms away from the ice maker --- which could possibly have been the source of the noise. Breakfast was good and very well organized. We didn't watch the Drive-In movie. The screens are a bit far from the windows so the movies were a little blurry because of the distance. The air conditioner smelled a bit musty or moldy. The owner did some cleaning which helped; but the smell came back - although a little less, the next day. The owners are very pleasant people who try hard to make everything as nice as possible. We don't recommend staying in rooms near the stairs to upper rooms nor rooms near the ice maker. We went to get ice as we were checking out and all the ice was gone.
Yes, this hotel is older, but that's not why you're coming here. You'd come here if you wanted the comforts of a bed, A/C or Heat while you bring your dogs and kids and watch a movie. Then, wake up and have a quick free breakfast and get back on your way. The sounds IS IN your room. It's so neat!
We stayed here for two nights. The rooms are well kept and the staff is great. The breakfast is well stocked and provides lots of variety. Being able to watch the movie from the room was the highlight of our trip. It is such a neat, unique idea. The sound is great and the screen is easy to see from the room. The room has a microwave and a refrigerator. I would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.
An older motel, which wisely decided to incorporate the adjacent outdoor movie into its scheme. One screen can be watched, with sound, from your room. The other must be watched from a car, but you need only show your room key to drive in to the drive-in. They do show the more recent releases. The new "Men in Black" film was showing on the screen you watched from your car. When we arrived, our room door was open and once inside we found mosquitoes and other creepy crawlies. I had to purge the bathroom tub of a spider and other unknowns. The rooms are quite small and the toilet and tub are in a very small space. Still, it was not too difficult to eliminate most of the light and the rooms were quiet, though around 3:00 a.m. or so a sort of clanging began every so often on both mornings we were there. It sounded like someone pushing a wheelbarrow that had a shovel banging around inside it. There is no real traffic on the highway, plus the rooms all face away from it. The beds had good blankets for a change when considering other BW properties. Staff was great and breakfast was the usual.
I felt like we had to pry to get information. What movie is playing. No answer. Really it should be advertised in the lobby. The drive in was the hotels attraction. Nothing. We saw this hotel on a travel show and thought it would be fun to watch from the hotel.
This is a fun place to stay. Clean, fresh, good service, solid breakfast, great TV and the chance to see a real movie on an outdoor screen from your room. Our granddaughter loved the movie and the breakfast in the morning was wonderful. The place was full, however, and unfortunately our room 216, had difficulty maintaining hot water for showers and went lukewarm quickly for all three of us that evening. I even tried it in the morning and the same result. But overall it was a great experience and would highly recommend it.
We stayed one night on a drive out west. Friendly staff and clean. We got to see a movie for free at the drive-in theatre from showing our room keys and our family of 4 kicked back in the van to watch. Close to several small restaurants.
We choose this hotel based on location and reviews. Obviously no one who gave it good reviews ever stayed in the annex unit. We were made to feel like outcasts based on location and quality. Bed uncomfortable, tub poorly draining, bed linens inadequate, door did not work properly....even no place to sit at breakfast. Go a little further and find something better.
This hotel is unique in that it has a great view of the foothills of the mountains and has lots of room to park and walk around. It has a very friendly vacation atmosphere. You can watch the drive-in movie from the hotel room.
First time visitor to Movie Manor. I brought my family from Texas to a car event. Brought my youngest daughter mainly cause of the drive in theater you could watch from the room. spent 3 nights and almost $500 for the room. Room was ok at best but the sound kept cutting out for 5-10 minutes at a time which made the feature a waste. This happened all 3 nights in room 123. Brought it up to front desk with no action whatsoever. Brought it up to manager upon checkout and he told me all speakers were checked prior to event. Another guest overheard my complaint and said the same thing happened in his friends room. I was offered nothing - not even an apology. He said he would check the room but what good will that do for me. Took my $ without any real concern. Beyond dissapointed.
Perhaps walls were built thicker in the good ole days because our room was pleasantly quiet, despite having guests on all sides. Room was super clean with comfortable beds. All these made for a restful night which we really appreciate! Breakfast selection and dining experience exceeded our expectations. Drive-in movie view from our room was the icing on the cake!
Hands down this was a great experience! And best of all a Drive in theater was right behind showing all the new movies! The sound comes right into your room so you can watch the movie! The breakfast was delicious very clean place and the staff working was very on top of customer service! Extremely friendly, all the rooms are named after movie stars! We will definitely be back!!
We went for a spontaneous weekend adventure to the Great Sand Dunes National Park this past weekend with my mother, husband, (myself), and my 2.5 year old son. In searching for places to stay, this hotel was among the top recommended, so I decided to book a room here. I was not disappointed.
We picked because it was close to the Great Sand Dunes (only an hour away) AND it had a drive in theater that you could watch from your room! Very disappointed. I'm going to say that again - very disappointed. The only way you can watch the movie is in front of the window in hard sitting straight back chairs. The hotel is non-smoking NOW, but our room smelled like once smoking was allowed. And the cigarette burn on the bed spread proved it! The room is very small for a king that we paid $160 for one night. The movie speaker in the room didn't work so they had to bring us another speaker. The staff was nice - they were nice when we checked in and when we checked out. The hotel just needs to be completely remodeled. Take out that old carpet in the rooms! And the bed spreads! I think the room was clean - it just looks dirty. We only stayed 1 night and then moved down the road to another hotel!
Beautiful setting. Fun old fashioned playground at movie theater. Sheep grazing on pasture. Clean rooms. Helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Iconic drive in movie theater was a history lesson for the grandkids.
Don't stay here unless you like sleeping on others bodily fluids. There was a bottle of lotion tucked into our supposedly fresh clean sheets when we went to bed. Absolutely disgusting. If the sheets were changed, the lotion bottle would have been found and removed. And their continental breakfast is basically a spread of cardboard. 13/10 would not come back.
This is our third year staying at the Movie Manor. This place is special like no other! Drive in movie theater located on site, and you can watch the movies from your room! The Drive in has an old fashioned concession stand, and Old School playground right beneath one of the movie screens! The Breakfast available at the Movie Manor is great! Waffle irons, cereal, scrambled eggs and sausage, pastries, yogurt, granola and fruit- and a full coffee- tea bar. The owners are very pleasant and extremely conscientious about upkeep and customer service. The home of a spectacular, once yearly event every June (The Hot Rod Dirt Drags), the Movie Manor proves to be a great location for an all weekend event. We look forward to our stay every year, you will like it, too!
This Best Western is great! Love the idea of the attached drive-in! The movies are new releases: they played one fun family movie and the other was not. The admission is included if you are a guest. The beds are comfortable. Room is clean. There is a Microwave and a refrigerator if you want to bring your own treats for the movie, otherwise the concession stand is priced reasonably but it is cash only. The Staff is helpful and kind. The breakfast is decent and they also offer gluten free if needed.
Great place to see a movie or just get some rest. It was great as a base camp to explore the area. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate and make my stay the best it could be. Everyone said hello and asked how things were going daily and remembered my name.
I suspect this place's drive-in movie/motel business model is unique in the world, but it shouldn't be! This is a great place. My room was well-appointed and immaculately clean. It had a microwave and a decent-sized refrigerator, so it'd be good even for a longer stay. The breakfast was decent. I always appreciate when a hotel without a restaurant makes an effort to provide some protein with breakfast (in this case, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and yogurt) rather than just carbs. Given the hotel's fairly remote location, it's a nice bonus that there's a restaurant right next door. You almost certainly drove a long way to get here, so it's nice that you don't have to drive more to eat. (Of course this is contingent on the restaurant being at least OK; I didn't try it.) There is gorgeous natural scenery all around, but you would have figured that out miles before you got here. The property is loosely themed around movies. All of this would make the place great, but then you also get a movie from your room. I saw "Detective Pikachu." Not being familiar with Pokemon lore, I mostly had no idea what they were talking about, but it was still a trip. The hotel was inexpensive, too. Given the room, breakfast, and movie, it was probably my all-time best lodging deal. Come stay here so it stays here.
Best motel experience in years. Very clean and well-appointed rooms, fresh smelling, comfortable beds. Open the curtains on those large windows, and there's a drive-in movie screen. Prop up pillows against your headboard, make some popcorn, and turn on the movie speaker. Traveling with children? Voila! Kid friendly entertainment. Movie theme decor is cute and kitschy. In the morning, enjoy a hot breakfast in the glass-walled breakfast room while enjoying a million dollar view of the San Juan mountains. Outstanding motel. Very well run with lots of attention paid to little details. Best motel in the San Luis Valley, In my opinion.
Best Western Movie Manor has nice staff, good and spacious room, with all needed amenities (fridge, microwave) and it was pretty silent. Parking lot is in front of the room, which comes handy to pull the bags inside. Breakfast was good, with hot items.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a care free, no bad experience, great value for the money over nite stay. It is a 5 star in my books. I plan on making this a frequent motel on my list of places to stay while traveling. I will go out of my way to stay here it was that good.
First the Good: Last operating drive in movie in Colorado is on the property. You have a speaker in your room and a front row seat to the show. Unique concept! Main room has been updated with new furniture and a LARGE refrigerator. Breakfast area is bright and modern with a wonderful view. Food is ok and standard boring for Best Western. The Bad: The layout is odd at best. You step into a long "foyer" that contains the open closet and the sink. The toliet and tub are in the smallest "room" I've EVER seen in a motel. You have to step outside to change your mind. There's ancient decayed weather stripping around the door. The wind blows right through. As it was winter, I stretched out my snowpants along the bottom to block the draft. Sound deadening between you and neighbors is non-existent. You hear every word of late to bed neighbors. The Ugly: IF YOU ARE LIGHT SENSITIVE,AS I AM, AVOID THIS PLACE AS YOU WON'T SLEEP! The long bathroom "foyer" contains a large frosted glass window with NO drapes or shades! I tried to block it with a pillow, but the window sill is to narrow to allow it to stay. You get the ambient lights from the parking lot all night and you'll be up at first light with the sun. The manager is helpful and friendly. He was dealt a bad hand. No amount of "face lifting" can correct all the faults of the "aging movie queen". Her age is apparent.
There was a good selection at breakfast: eggs, sausage, biscuits +gravy, waffles, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. Very clean rooms. Friendly staff. Good location just outside Monte Visya, CO. They have pet friendly rooms available.
I was apprehensive about a place right on the highway, but it was quite. The bed was comfortable, room clean, and the breakfast was very good. The customer service/front desk folks were very friendly and helpful. There is only 1 ice machine and it is in the middle of the main building, while we were in the 'out' building where pets are allowed; so it's a bit of a walk, which is not good in foul weather.
If you don't mind the drive into Wolf Creek, this hotel is perfect. It has a great view of the mountains in the background and the staff does everything they can to take care of you. Great breakfast options and another restaurant in the parking lot for dinner options.
The location of this motel is perfect for sightseeing. This is one of my favorite motel to stay in colorado. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming. Rooms were super clean and pleasant, Loved the Movie manor part.Breakfast was outstanding. So Glad I chose this motel to stay. Completely satisfied with the Customer service.
This is my favorite motel. Rooms are super, staff unbelievable, and rates competitive. The Movie Manor part is really great. You can watch the big screen from your room! Current movies!! Watched Venom!! You gotta stop here on your way to wherever.
First, this is a lovely hotel on its own -- clean, fitness room, business center, and a beautiful breakfast room (with an excellent breakfast!) Everyone is friendly, helpful, smiling. The beds are comfortable. The furnishings looked new. It was -- and I don't think I've ever said this about a budget motel in the U.S. -- a genuine pleasure to stay here. AND THEN, there's a drive-in next door! There was a switch in our room so that we could here the move, and we could see the screen from our room. The screen is a ways away, so if you want to see the movie in premier conditions, you may want to walk or drive closer -- admission is free for guests. But if you want to see a movie in an unusual way -- watching from the room with sound was really, really fun. We also walked over to the restaurant and had a very nice time. It, too, is family-owned though not by the same family that runs the motel. Our stay here was as good as it could be. Can't wait to go back. (BTW, one review here mentions a problem with stairs -- I looked everywhere and couldn't find anything resembling the problem described.)
Saw this hotel written up on TripAdvisor and decided to try. So glad that I did. We were leaving Great Sand Dunes National Park and was a convenient stop. Staff was helpful and friendly. Next door is a restaurant that we enjoyed. Small town and friendly people. All on one level and could park outside our room which was convenient for unloading car.
We made advance reservations, and were in our last several days of a lengthy road trip when we stayed at Movie Manor for 2 nights. While the motel has a rather run down appearance from the road, it offers a good value and a unique experience. Check-in and breakfast are in the building nearest to the road, while guest rooms are in a long 2-story building with entry on the side opposite the movie screen. There are steep exterior stairs to the 2nd floor rooms. Each room number is associated with an old time actor's name, making it easier to remember which room you're in. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and the desk clerk was very helpful and friendly. Ours was a second floor queen room. The room was very spacious, comfortable and quiet. The bed was rather soft, but we slept well. We enjoyed having a table and 2 comfortable chairs, which we moved in front of the picture window to watch the movie. The decor is very dated. The bathroom area is well separated from the sleeping area, and the toilet and tub/shower were in a separate room. There was plenty of hot water. Breakfast offerings included hot (eggs, sausage, biscuit, gravy) and cold (cereal, danishes, yogurt, hardcooked eggs), plus breads, juices and coffee. There was also an “oatmeal bar” with a variety of toppings. The attendant was friendly. There is a restaurant next door, within easy walking distance, that appears to be associated with the motel and drive-in. We didn't try it. Other restaurants are a few miles away. The movie playing during our stay was dark, making it difficult to see...and while it was a recent film, it wasn't particularly entertaining. To make matters worse, headlights from cars on the road interfered with visibility. Perhaps viewing would have been better in a different room. Sound was passable, only slightly staticy. There were maybe 7 or 8 cars in the drive-in lot. The overall experience at a Movie Manor was a unique one, but watching a movie at the drive in is your main reason for choosing this motel, be sure to ask for a room away from the road...and maybe find out ahead of time what's playing.
We were aware upfront that the handicapped rooms at this hotel had no roll in shower. Unfortunately the seat for tub was a cheap Wal- Mart type. There was no handheld shower nozzle and the towels were so high above the toilet could almost not be reached by my 6 ft. tall husband. The beds were decent though and the drive in theater that you can watch and hear from your room were a cute touch. If not an amputee I would consider staying here again.
On our way to Durango we opted to stay in the town of Monte Vista. The Best Western Movie Manor was our choice of lodging and we were very pleased overall. The room was clean, the amenities were all there as they should be, the breakfast was very good with various choices of hot and cold foods. They also had a decent fitness room which was used by me.
As always this property is an excellent stay. Room and a movie is delightful and property is well maintained and clean. Was full the entire weekend. Good location with lots to do within 50 mile radius.
This is a neat place to rent a room & watch a movie on 1 of 2 big drive-in screens & the sound is piped to the room for 1 screen. The staff was nice & the room was clean. The hot breakfast was pretty good. The WiFi worked fine. We grabbed a bite in town (2.7 miles away). Movie sound was a little scratchy but overall this place is Neat !
The rooms at the hotel look out over the drive in movie. The reception staff were helpful and courteous. The room was large and spotlessly clean. Comfy beds, smallish bathroom. Large uncluttered breakfast room with a full selection of USA breakfast staples. Only downside is it is located out of town and restaurant choice is extremely limited should you not want to drive. We took our own drinks and picked up food to eat before arriving. We watched the movie from our room, a first!
Seeing a movie in a hotel room was so great! Would definately stay here again! A great experience and would say everyone must try it at least once. Loved that there was a microwave and fridge. Made all the difference.
We decided to stop in and give this place a try. It was a throw back to when we were younger and visited the drive in back in the day. Our sons had a great time watching the movie from our room on the big screen drive in. The movies shown were the latest releases. The food at the concession stand was good especially the butter popcorn. The free breakfast was good and is a great location to The Great Sand Dunes National Park just to the northeast.
The hotel rooms were adequate but the movies were not available and the television did not work. The bathrooms are tiny. Was told the movie was Mission Impossible but was stuck with Teen Titans 2 instead. The sound for the movie in room 112 was non-existent and what you could hear was distorted. Reported the problem to the lady at the front desk. She was indifferent and couldn't even muster an apology. Poorly managed property. Really a big let-down. Bathrooms are too small.
Run down with unknown stains on the bathroom walls. Speakers in my room for the drive-in didn't work. Couldn't do laundry cuz the washer was out of order. Tried getting my money back but they refused.
Old style motel. Rooms are large, beds are soft, pillows fluffy. Rooms were clean. The breakfast is both hot cooked and has healthy selections. Two screen drive in movie next door. You can watch 1 screen from your room(it has speakers that you can turn on in the room). If you want to watch the other screen, you have to take your vehicle into the drive in using your room key as admission. Very unique. I highly recommend.
My hotel room was very clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was quite good. I consider myself fortunate that it had vacancies that night. I was very pleased with my stay and my family enjoyed the experience.
Great experience overall. My stomach did get upset after breakfast. However, the movie experience was fun and unique. The hotel accommodations were fine. The location is a bit remote but accessible. The staff were nice. If I return it will be with a group because that probably would have made it even more fun.
This was our third time we stayed at BW Movie Manor. We stayed there in 1970 & 1977. So we were taking a trip down memory lane. We were disappointed that the restaurant across the parking lot was closed but the staff directed us to Quincy's in town & it was excellent. The hotel was somewhat dated but clean & we liked the unique experience of having the drive in movie viewable from our room. We chose BW Movie Manor on our Memory Trip to the west coast.
We drove two hours out of our way to go here. And we were sooooo disappointed. We got there at dusk and the hotel was in great need of a remodel. They gave me keys to the hotel on second floor. She said movie was hotel Transylvania showing in the room and Ant man if you wanted to go In your car. So get to our room after dragging all our luggage up the stairs and there was so not disturb sign on door. I open the door to the room and there was pizza boxes and bed was slept in and room Was filthy. So I told my son to wait while I went to front desk. She said oh sorry I'll move you but only room is on bottom floor. So we haul our luggage back down. The room was better but very rustic. We sat on the bed and you could not see the movie screen. So you would have to stand up or sit on table chair. In pictures of hotel you could see from your bed. Anyways my son wanted to watch ant man so we left the room and drove to drive in. You had to listen to it on your radio. My car wouldn't let us keep the radio on with the lights off. So we had to just turn the car off and try to hear other people's cars radios. I couldn't hear a thing. My son barely could. He sat on the car. And I just did texts and emails since I couldn't hear a thing. Very disappointing! My family had told us how fun this was but we will not ever go back.
I really wanted to give this a 4 out of 5 rating but overall it was an average visit. We had been wanting to stay here for a while and this time through Colorado I was able to book it. I thought the idea of a drive-in hotel was totally kitschy and I love kitschy. The check-in process was simple and quick. It looked like there was a construction crew there putting on a new roof, but they quit around 5 and all was quiet after that. Each room has the name of a movie star on the door. We had the Charlton Heston room. The room was clean and comfortable. Beds were soft and clean. There are two drive-in screens. Our room was facing the screen that would show Jurassic World 2 which was fine with us. At check-in she did ask if that was ok so I assume if you wanted to watch the other movie and they had a room open you could switch. The movie starts at dusk which was about 9:10 that evening. Inside each room is a speaker to listen to the sound. So here is where I think with a little upgrade that can make this hotel a must-stop. The speaker in our room was not as clear as I thought it would be. There wasn't really static but it just did not sound clear. Maybe was just this room but this may be something they could improve on. The screen are pretty far away from the motel. I'm not sure they can do anything about this. This started as a just a drive-in in the 50's and the owner built the motel around it later in the 60's. I know in the 50s-60's a lot of people went to drive-ins and you needed a large parking area. not anymore. There were maybe 20 cars the night we were there. I think there is easily 75-100 feet of empty space between the hotel and where the concession stand and cars park. I'm sure it would not be easy and maybe it's impossible but moving the screens closer to the hotel would be great. It probably didn't help that we were watching a "dark" movie. Most of Jurassic World 2 takes place at night or in dark rooms. The continental breakfast was hot and good. Just as good as a Hampton in my opinion. Overall I'm glad we stayed for the experience. I'm not sure we'd do it again without it being updated/upgraded but if you like a unique experience I say try it.
We booked a stay here with our granddaughter on our way thru Colorado. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and they face the drive in where they play first run movies. It has a vintage but updated feel. The decor is all movie themed including star names in the concrete at the entrance. All the rooms have star names along with numbers. They have a great sense of humor too..the exercise room is the Arnold Schwarzenegger ! Lol ! The movie screen is a bit far away to see but you do get a free pass to go into the drive in with your room key if you prefer. There are movie audio volume controls in each room. The breakfast was delicious with good choices and the view at breakfast amazing. We would definitely recommend this motel.
Everyone was right! Deidre was awesome! She set us up and took very good care of us. She was awesome! It's not fancy, but it was homie! Got up for breakfast and it was one of the best we have had at a Best Western ever! If your ever around and need a place to stop. Deidra will take care of ya! Thank you Deidra! ??
This unique motel is situated in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. It is about 40 miles from the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It is situated next to a drive-in movie that still operates and the rooms all have a window that faces the screen and you can watch the movie from your room. The breakfast is the best I have ever had in a moderately priced motel. Facilities are adequate and the place is clean. If you have a dog, you will be accommodated in their annex which does not have a view of the movies. However, you can drive into the drive-in free if you are a motel guest.
I stayed here during the Crane Festival and I would guess prices were higher due to demand. Front desk staff was a little stressed with multiple check-ins, but friendly. The room was fine, comfortable bed, everything worked well. Heater was a little tricky to keep at an even heat but it did keep the room warm. Looks like the movie access would be fun and make this a good stop for families. The room was upstairs, ask for first level if needed.
Diedra deserves almost all the credit for the 5 stars. She is what a desk clerk should be. We didn't watch the movie, but just the fact that they are there makes this a must visit motel. The only negative is that we had to walk outside in freezing weather to get to breakfast. However, once we got there it was well worth the walk. Seeing the snow capped mountains in the distance only add to the atmosphere. Too bad the restaurant next door is closed, but the place recommend in town was very good.
My wife is from the area and had always talked about how cool it would be to stay at the Movie Manor. We stayed here and were very disappointed with the visit. The place was not packed by any means, but we were given a room that didn't exactly face the screen. Of course it didn't help that the night we were there, the main screen didn't work, at ALL. When I called about the main screen, I was told there was a power outage in the morning but they were hoping it was going to work (which they decided in about 30-minutes to give up for the night). Funny thing is, no one mentioned this at check-in time, but at 915 at night, they had no problem telling us the truth. I then asked if we could switch the sound to the secondary screen (which was working) and were told that that was not an option, as only the main screen is piped into the room. You'd think as long as this place has been around, you'd have the option of screen 1 or 2, but I guess technology hasn't caught up in this hotel. I asked what our options were and the "customer service representative" informed me that we could drive around and PAY for the second screen, which at this point was 1/4 of the way into the film. What a lousy way to spend the night, watching "Deadpool 2" from a chair in silence. I totally understand that technology doesn't always work, but why not tell us at check-in that there is a chance the main screen isn't working and offer a "free pass" to see the secondary screen. Do something other than hoping that the main screen will work. At least the movie-goers in the drive-in were given the option to head to screen 2 or get their money back, those of us in the hotel were offered zilch for the technical troubles. In the future, I'll spend a little less for a more modern hotel in the area and just pay to go and see a movie at the theater. Best Western showed nothing but total disappointment and an absolute disregard for any customer service.
Parents should be aware that movies shown are NOT family friendly. Violent PG-13 movie was shown and trailers before it used the F-word. Very disappointing and spoiled our visit. Room was well-decorated, bed comfortable, water hot, wifi good, breakfast good, staff polite and helpful.
Drive Inn motel is something everyone should experience. Mine was excellent. Bed comfortable, clean room. You watch a drive inn movie right through your large window, with the speaker switch at in your room. How great is that!! Hostess made you feel part of the family. She smiled and made you feel welcome. Was a wonderful stay.
Surprisingly nice for updated motel. Friendly staff. Good beds. Clean room. Very nice Breakfast. Talked to owner in the morning and learned of the history. Very interesting story. Drive in movie screen outside your window. With sound in your room. Would stay again.
We traveled to Monte Vista to see the Sandhill Cranes and stayed at this hotel. We were quit impressed with the cleanliness and remodel of an older motel. The staff were very courteous and kind. The room was very clean, up to date, comfortable and quiet. Our only complaint would be that the heater was noisy and turned on and off constantly. It was to noisy to sleep so we turned it off and then got cold in the night... an extra blanket would have been helpful but there were no extras in the room. The breakfast was very good and better than expected.
Great service from friendly folks who really want to please. Wonderful large room that they were happy to let us use for our group dinner. Fast and efficient check in and check out. Very willing to work with our large (19 women) group.
Movie Manor is fairly quiet during the off-season (winter). I recently added this overnight stop in beautiful Monte Vista, CO to my rather short commute from my residence to my parents home. The location is serene and quiet. Great sun and moon rise views, wonderful sunset views if you step out the front door. Late February and March might yield a glimpse of Sand Hill Cranes! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff are warm and welcoming. I'm sure it is great during "movie" season, but it is awesome during non-movie season too!
I found this place as I drove past on highway 160. It is next door to a restaurant and drive-in movie theater. It is a seasonal place so not many guests are here now and they offered a very reasonable rate. I met the owner “Mike” at check-in who is a pleasant man willing to share his life story about how he ended up here owning the hotel and surrounding property...but, back to the Review. My wife and I are in room 112 which is a King room on the ground floor with a window that looks at the drive-in movie screen. (There are rooms with a beautiful view of the mountains as well.) Then you notice there are speakers in the room with a volume control so you can hear what is being said at the drive-in. Mike explained that June is a big month when they have car shows and show movies from the 60's. Our room is called the Jessica Lange room. There is even a drag strip on the property. The room is clean and comfortable. The bed is great with a semi firm mattress. The staff is the best (we met Mikes wife too but missed her name). This property is a great destination for the traveler or the weekend getaway.
I've been staying at this place since October of 2017 and the management have always been really friendly and helpful to everything that I needed, I totally recommend this hotel if you need somewhere to in Monte Vista
We weren't expecting too much from a hotel in Monte Vista. But the rooms were modern, super clean & the staff was very friendly. The hotel is obviously older, but the updates that they've done are noticeable. The bathrooms are super cramped, but that just comes with the older building. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay. Breakfast was great & by far the cleanest dining room I've seen in a hotel. Will be sure to stay here if we are down south again!!!
This hotel is older but well maintained with a very nice eating area with great view. Breakfast area should be larger for a full hotel. Good breakfast though. Location is a couple miles outside of town. Quiet, easy parking access. In summer movies can be viewed from your room on a drive-in theatre screen.
This is unique hotel that apparently has drive in theater, and you can watch the movie from the rooms (you can get rooms with large windows that you can see the screen along with volume/speaker control). It was winter so drive in was not operational. Arrived after sunset - entrance was bit difficult to locate, and may be missed if not careful. Location - right off the open highway, 5 min drive to town area. Because of the building arrangement, I drove to get breakfast in cold morning. May not be an issue during summer. Rooms were clean, spacious, but bit old/outdated. Beds & pillows were comfortable, shower and sink worked fine. Staff seemed professional and caring. Good value.
I would stay here even if it didn't have movies, golf course, great breakfast, nice rooms or a concession stand. Because of the family and staff that run this place. They treat me like family every time I stay here. Staying is a fun experience. The rooms are very, very clean and cozy. The location is safe and quiet. The breakfast is very good, especially the waffles. This is a must stay for southern Colorado.
This hotel is on very good location, I always enjoy to stay their. Mr. Mike is very helpful and always their to support hotel gust. The entire hotel was clean and welcoming. The breakfast was very good, including coffee.
It is in the middle of nowhere. A Chinese place will deliver and there is a restaurant that you can walk to. We stayed near the end of the season and it was pretty cool to watch the movie from your room. It would be better to go during summer and get more movies. But, yeah, nice place and friendly staff. You should like it.
My husband I just love the service we receive here! The couple that run this place are pleasant and helpful to say the least! They are truly fantastic and the place is CLEAN! If I could mark a double on clean I would. We have family here and chose to stay in the hotel as it is truly a treat!
Wonderful staff, very pleasant, courteous and helpful!Breakfast would please anyone. Everything was fully stocked, the eggs, bacon, sausage = all hot! Several juices, fruits, yogurt, cheeses, and even the biscuits and gravy that some travelers adore! The staff kept the tables cleaned and asked if we needed anything. The rooms were clean and bright.
This is a standard Best Western that could use a little maintenance. The parking lot is literally a cleared asphalt pad - some landscaping or curbs to help with the dust would be nice. But it is a desert area and we weren't there for the flowers. There are great views of the valley and surrounding mountains and you can see for miles. The breakfast room was particularly crowded without enough seating (probably just right for most days, but there was a large group of professionals that day that really took over the area). Kind of awkward to eat our breakfast in the lobby next to the front desk. There is an interesting book there about the owner and how the hotel came to be - check it out on the coffee table in the lobby. Our unit was clean and we were given a room for disabled guests which had a roll-in shower (not necessary but spacious) We chose this hotel for the unique opportunity of watching a drive-in movie from our hotel room. A very cool experience that I would absolutely recommend. That said, this hotel really needs to work on the speaker system. With the technology available today, the static and feedback could easily be fixed. The rooms are named after Hollywood stars, a cute touch. There are two screens but the hotel only faces one, you have to sit in your car if you want to watch the other screen. The experience is one to cross off your list but not the hotel itself is not particularly remarkable.
This is a great place and the owners try very hard to ensure you have a nice stay! I highly recommend it, if you are staying in the San Luis Valley this place should be on your list to spend a night or more.
Lovely little place that brings you back to the 50s era movie decor and a functional drive in theater! Movie screens can be viewed from the bedrooms as well as a wall switch to turn the movie audio off if you don't want to watch it. The town is a lovely and homey small town that beckons you to walk around and take in the beautiful culture and scenery
The unique thing of watching the movie from your room should not be missed. I recommend doggy style. Then you can both watch the movie. When I checked in, they said that I had booked two rooms. Which is crazy. I'm sure it will be be all sorted out. The woman at the front desk was very helpful and friendly.
I have been all over the US on my motorcycle this summer staying exclusively at Best Western. This was one of the best stays. In my top 3 for sure. Clean, friendly, etc. There is a restaurant on-site that we did not get a chance to try, but we we did eat at Nino's which was fairly good.
Ok - It is a drive in movie location so it is outside of town a small distance but it is worth the effort to go there. Where else can you experience this?? The breakfast fare was as good as we have found at a BW and was quite good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Needed help getting some cold bags frozen to keep my insulin cold - no problem. Stop there if you are passing through on US 160 which is also a beautiful drive.
What an awesome experience watching an outdoor movie old drive in style from our hotel room with all of the movie theater snacks offered!! Super quiet location with very cool theme and the staff was very helpful, acccomodating and kind! Will definitely stay here in in Southern CO again! 5 stars!
I stayed here with my wife on a recent road trip. I had read about what a unique place this was. I convinced here to stay here. She thought I was joking with her until we arrived and she saw the drive in movie screens! My only complaint is that not all of the rooms allow you to lay in bed and watch the movies, in some of them you need to sit in the chairs. All in all a great experience! We will be back! The employees and staff are very nice!
Charming bit of vintage fun! How many times do you see an outdoor drive-in movie theater? Not too many of these left to find. However, some creative individuals took this older motel connected to a drive-in and refashioned it for the modern times. Absolutely loved the idea and the creativity. First read about this in the WEIRD COLORADO book. Being a film buff, I had to investigate. Yes, you can actually lodge in a nice retrofitted hotel room and enjoy a feature film from your window! The speaker is connected right there in the room. You have a choice of two different movies to watch; the main one is usually for family entertainment. This place is located on the western outskirts of town. Other than that it has a great breakfast and the usual offerings of a Best Western. Worth a look!
This hotel was my 6.5yo sons highlight of our trip! Nice staff, nice rooms, and got to watch a new release from our bed! Even has a concession stand for goodies to watch the movie with. Good breakfast! Would definately recommend! We were on way to Great Sand Dunes. About 50min from them.
It was a nice surprising experience overall. I watched movies sitting on my bed! The hotel is located next to a major highway, but back side of the hotel is a meadow. The hotel was updating furniture in the rooms downstairs while I was there. So, it seems they are continuously making improvements.
We ended up watching a truly silly movie from our room. This is a kitschy motel that is in good shape and does a good job. The staff is lovely. The lobby treats were nice, too. Breakfast was predictable and just fine. The beds were fine. I know I'll stay again if I pass through Monte Vista.
I found out about this after reading a previous review. This motel is a slice of Americana - who could pass up the ability to watch a drive-in movie from your motel room? It was quaint and a nice spot to overnight.
A group of twenty four of us stayed here. While the "watch a movie from your hotel room" is a nice concept, this hotel is in major need of an update! It could be so much more than what it is if it were decorated cool and eclectic. We only stayed one night and we did not eat breakfast there.
We booked this room for location as we were on a motorcycle trip to Colorado and Monte Vista was the perfect stop. We had no idea what a unique experience we would have here! Check in was fast and friendly. The room was immaculate and had modern touches. Delightful cafe on property with the friendliest waitress and seriously the most delicious banana walnut pancakes with ham on side as well as bacon and French toast homemade for us at dinner time. After dinner we went to our room, opened the curtain and watched the outdoor movie screen from the comfort of our bed! Breakfast in the morning was generous and well tended to. I have told friends and family to stop at the movie manor on their way to Colorado and hope I find myself on the area again someday soon. Highly recommend. It's an older property but room and bathroom very well kept and clean, new modern bedding and great staff. The view at sunrise was amazing. Highly recommend.
We stopped overnight on our way to Cortez. The hotel sits by a drive-in theater and you can actually watch the movies from your room. Kind of a cool feature although we got in to late to enjoy the movie. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The thing that kept the rating from being higher was the bathroom. The cleanliness was not what I have come to expect from BW. The grout on the shower tile was dirty. At first I wasn't sure if it was stained or just dirty. I took a wash cloth and was able to remove the dirt. The morning breakfast was really good. Normally I avoid the eggs at hotel breakfast bars as they are not usually good. The eggs here were the best I have had at any BW. Overall the experience was good and would recommend the hotel.
didn't watch the movies which is kinda the point but it was a safe decent stay at a good price... restaurant next door is adequate, the waitress is a hoot and a half! all in all, you can definitely do worse in this area
Was a clean place rooms where old but good restaurant didn"t take credit cards did have ATM but charge to use it. maybe it was that it just opened up.Movie that was playing was a kid movie and not good one at that. Has two screens but only one sound in room but could watch either screen.
What a cool place in the middle of no where. Movie themed motel with its own Drive In. Watched movies in comfy chairs in the room. Breakfast was so good and convenient. Employees where so polite and helpful. Facilities were updated and clean. Great value!
Dancing in and out of the shower as it turns cold and then hot and keeps cycling. Stair railing to the 2nd floor are not safe for kids(easy to walk through) I have stayed here many times before and had issues. I will never stay there again
When I found out there was a drive-in theater attached, I was excited. There are two screens and we werent' facing the screen with the movie we wished to see, but that just meant we got to go to a drive-in in our car. There aren't many places where you can still do that, and it was a good experience to share with my son.
This is a terrific hotel! I loved being able to relax in my room and watch a movie after charging my concessions to the room. The room rate was very reasonable and the staff were all helpful. The breakfast bar was very good and the bed was comfortable. I only stayed for one night, but it looked as though the hotel had a lot of amenities. the restaurant they suggested for dinner (Quincy's Steakhouse) was incredible and the hotel was very quiet.
Booking.com reservation wasn't confirmed, but the lady who checked us in went out of her way to ensure we had a room at the correct price. She said they had a similar experience the previous week, & even gave us a king size bed, even though we might have originally reserved a queen bed. I probably won't use Booking.com again, but I will stay at a Best Western again.
The Movie Manor Motel is a great place. We really enjoyed watching the drive-in movie from our comfortable room. It was very clean and the breakfast was good and the breakfast room has a great view of the mountains. The owners were great, I left behind a personal item and they called me immediately to notify me. Luckily I was nearby and was able to swing back and pick it up but I got the feeling they would have sent it to me if I had been unable to return.
This motel, in the mountains was a perfect place to spend the night. It had two movies going that you could watch from your room. Though only one sound came through. It would be a fun place to settle your kids. The room it's self was clean, and comfortable.
The drive in movie available from your room is the coolest thing about this hotel. Otherwise it is not very clean, the dust is everywhere: under the bed, on the hairdryer. The smell in the room is not so pleasant because everything is old and you can not ventilate it, the windows are not possible to open. The breakfast was average. In other words, we stayed there for 2 nights and it was conveniently located to where we were going, however I would not stay there again, especially for the price we were charged.
I would give Movie Manor 5 stars all the way around. I have stayed here before and wil not stay anywhere else while I visit in Monte Vista. My room has always been clean, everything works, staff is wonderful, breakfast is delicious! I feel very safe and comfortable staying there.
It was my 3yr old grandson first time there and her loved that he could buy popcorn and watch a movie right from his hotel bed and there was also a play ground by the movie screen for kids to play on .
We had a blast! Great rooms, and we enjoyed the drive-in movie from our bed looking out the large picture window! It was a kids movie, but we liked it. Room was clean, and the bed was comfy! Great breakfast the next morning too!
Walking into the Movie Manor BW Motel room in Monte Vista, CO just as the movie "Despicable Me 3" began will be a cherished memory for our two grand children (ages 8 and 10) on their 3 week (ending with a 5 day cross country driving trip) adventure with their grand parents.
So fun! A throw back to the good old days of family road trips! Where else can you lay in your motel bed and watch a drive-in movie with audio pumped into the room? A unique motel experience. The rooms are roomy, comfortable and updated and the amenities are suited to the hotel range/price with a few extras, including a great in-room coffee station and a nice hot breakfast included each morning. The motel was also situated perfectly for us to explore the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado Gators farm and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The staff were friendly and accommodating and you really get that small town feel.
What a concept...a very nice motel where you can watch and hear a drive in movie from your room. They were just wrapping up a major remodel job and it was very well done. Great trailer parking, very quiet, outstanding breakfast buffet and a fabulous on site BBQ restaurant. What more could a traveler ask for? All of the staff were friendly and extremely eager to please.
It was so much fun to arrive at the hotel and see the 2 big movie screens. We were able to choose the movie we wanted to be facing. You could choose either the old time drive-in, and take your car over there. Or watch from your room. The sound was great! The movie was easy to see from the room. The breakfast had a huge spread.
eight of us went to stay and see a movie from our room. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. The views of the mountains great. We just wished you could have picked which movie to watch, instead of having one piped in and you would have to go in your car to see the other. Going to the concession stand and bringing food back to your room was fun. Loved having a pajama party and seeing a new movie
Give them a try, they are truly best western with a free movie. Absolutely the best. What else would I say??? Just best and best of the best. Good in price and excellent in service. Wonderful location
Clean, cute, nice rooms, great view. Yummy breakfast. Awesome movie..very kid friendly, nice staff, clean and pretty rooms. Great price. Close to sand dunes and gator farm and good restaurants. Beautiful mountain views!!!
Nothing fancy, but clean rooms, a pleasant staff and you are at a working drive-in theater with first run movies. Add a traveling thunderstorm to the mix and you even get some excitement. Bottom line: it's fun.
Watching a movie on an old drive-in screen from your room with in room speaker system in very unique! Be sure to ask which movie is available in your room as there is only one of the two screens. BUT, you also have the option to drive in the theater and watch either of the movies included in the room price. There is a snack bar available with the popcorn, hotdogs, soft drinks, and snacks. A trip down memory lane!
We stayed here during a family road trip. We wanted to stay somewhere close to the Sand Dunes, and a friend recommended this hotel as a very unique and fun family experience. What an awesome recommendation! It was so much fun to sit in our hotel room and look out the window at the drive-in movie screen and watch Despicable Me 3 (or Spiderman, if we so chose) from our hotel room with the sound piping in through the speakers inside our hotel room. The kids loved it! And so did my wife and I. Free breakfast the next morning (before we head out to visit the Sand Dunes) was a great amenity. The buffet had plenty of hot and cold breakfast options for kids and for adults. I can't believe we have lived in Denver for 15 years and never heard about this unique and fun hotel. We will definitely go back here again!
Nice hotel in a beautiful location. Rooms were clean and came with mini fridges. The really unique aspect of this place is a drive in movie theater on the hotel grounds. Unfortunately no movie was playing when I was there because it was winter. Mike at the front desk was very helpful.
Outdoor movies at this motel are a great unique treat. The staff, starting with Mike and Sangita, were warm and welcoming to us and to our adult children, who arrived before us. Breakfast was good - typical variety at a BW, in a nice, attractive room.
A great place to stay. Clean, comfortable, affordable, great breakfast and exceptional staff. The movie is an added bonus. It was a very quiet room and the bed was really comfortable. I will tell all my friends about it
Our room was clean and had a small fridge. The window faced the screen where the kids' drive in movie was playing (the sound is on a switch in the room). My husband and I moved the chairs to the window and watched Despicable M3 while our teenagers took the car over to watch Spiderman on the other screen (included in the price). The breakfast was good with eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, waffles, bagels, condiments like shredded cheese and salsa. It was really nice, and the price was great. The washer and dryer were on the ground floor, and the room was clean.
Very clean and comfortable. Traveled with pets. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 is the room could have had a handicap height toilet in the bathroom. Plenty of truck parking for our semi. Thanks for a great stay
While we were traveling through Colorado we decided to stop at the Best Western Movie Manor. The reason we stopped at this particular motel is there is a drive in movie theater located directly behind the property so you can watch the latest movie while relaxing in your room. There is a speaker for the theater in your room.
So it is a drive in from your room concept, pretty funny and original. Room was perfectly fine simple motel. Beds were comfortable and all was well. Didn't really watch the movie. Complementary breakfast was hearty and good. No complaints.
We visit here almost each year. Nice, clean and newly carpeted rooms. Hotel staff is great. Nice full complimentary breakfast each morning. Great location. Two movie screens to watch. One movie can be watched from your room, the other movie requires you to drive your vehicle in. Movies are always new releases.
This was a treat! There were 2 movie screens to choose from. The breakfast was fresh and tasty and the rooms were recently redone. We had a first floor room it was quiet and clean. Would definitely recommend a stop here. Kid friendly!
Our plan was to stay in Alamosa but there was a snafu with our reservation there which we did not find out about until the evening of our reservation. So, with time wasting and no hotel reservation, we lucked into this place not too far from Alamosa. The movie theme is carried out quite well - the rooms are named for movie stars. We saw a great movie from our room and the speaker in the room worked well. It was most unusual but was a very memorable experience. The room was very clean and had a mini fridge and microwave and the beds were comfy. The breakfast was good. Staff was very friendly. We would recommend checking out which movies are playing and choose a room appropriate - or you can actually take your vehicle to the drive in. We would recommend it. Just note that a lot of restaurants in town close around 8 PM so plan for that!
We booked a last minute stay on our way back to Denver and were so surprised to stumble on this gem! Drive-in movie from the clean hotel room! Obviously the staff here care about the place. Watching the beautiful sunset prior to the movie, only available like that in the Colorado mountains. If you have kids, they will absolutely love the place!
Staff awesome; room clean and spacious; comfortable beds; nice breakfast; movie from your room was a first for me to see and something different and fun. The event I went to had the bbq catered from the spot right next door and it was amazing!
This place is pretty darn cool. With a hotel room purchase, you can go to the drive-in movie. Sweetness! We were able to take our six kids to Despicable Me 3, which just came out. So for just a little bit more than what it would cost to take a large family to a brand new movie, we got a hotel room included. The room was very nice. What a great set up in the middle of nowhere Colorado.
Everything about our stay was great - staff was friendly and accommodating, the room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was wonderful (more than I was expecting, actually). The hotel grounds were well maintained - the management certainly is doing a good job of making sure all the details are covered. We stayed here after visiting the Sand Dunes (about half an hour a way), and we would definitely come back and stay at this place if we're in the area again. Also, the movie was a fun twist. We had to arrange ourselves "just so" between the two beds and the chairs in the rooms so that all four of us could watch, but it worked fine. I'd recommend the 2nd floor to see the screen a bit better, but it would probably be fine on the lower level, too.
Booked this hotel for 47 Corvette owners on a 17 day road trip. We stayed in all types of hotels/motels but this was truly unique with the drive in movie screens. Very clean hotel with comfortable beds and updated bathrooms. Wonderful breakfast with beautiful view and owners that went well out of their way to make our group feel welcome to include providing a car wash area for us to use. If your tired of the standard "corporate" stays, you would love this place.
When an unexpected stay-over made the reservation that we made here several weeks in advance impossible to accommodate, the owner went out of her way to help make all well for us! We all (kids and grown-ups alike) absolutely loved the novelty of the drive-in experience in-room, and the kids had a great time at the play-ground!
Mike, the front desk clerk, was great at handling a booking problem that I made. He got us into a great room and made sure we were able to see the movie (which was our main reason for trying to get into this hotel). It was so fun watching a drive-in movie from our room. It's a unique experience that I hope to share with the rest of my family someday.
Wonder property. Great location. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast choices were great. Loved the coffee in the lobby made available to guests all day. Didn't watch the movie, but great added feature. Will definitely stay here again
Best Western is always my first choice to stay when out of town. They are always clean. The breakfast is always good. Friendly staff that care about their customers. They always try to accommodate you as to your room needs are concerns. Not much else to say. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
We recently stayed at the Movie Manor during a family vacation. All four of us loved this stop and we would not hesitate to stay here again. The staff was very friendly, the room was clean, large, and well furnished. The breakfast was great! We appreciate that the hotel had dairy free options since we have family members who are allergic to dairy. What really sets this location apart is the free movie! It is such a neat concept and is done so well. Is it the same as sitting in a movie theater or watching on your TV? Of course not but the sound system in the room was great and we were way more comfortable sitting in our room than we would have been in the car! This stop rates as one of my family's favorite on our two week trip. Obviously this is not a luxury hotel. But if you are someone who needs luxury hotels you are probably not stopping in Monte Vista!
We had a great stay: the breakfast is good, the rooms are nice, and the movie from your room is really fun. We ordered in Chinese food while we watched. We got a bonus view of the full moon. I wish we had a drive in closer to home too, we would go again!
Motel was Ok, Reservations were screwed up when we arrived, and we got a lot of excuses. Upon Checkout the rate was higher than quoted, but was adjusted. Breakfast was not hot. Bath Rooms were the smallest I have ever seen.
What a fun place to stay. When was the last time you went to a drive-in movie? Here's your chance. Nice place with movie options included. All the rooms have movie star names. Right next door is a nice casual smoked BBQ restaurant. Would definitely stay there again.
This is a very fun place to stay. We were there for dirt drag race weekend the first of June. It was so fun to be there with all of the old cars,... great atmosphere. Nice little bar with a very friendly bartender. Beautiful view of the mountains. The rooms were nice in a retro sort of way. Would absolutely stay there again.
This was super fun for the night! It was exactly what I was hoping for, being able to watch the big screen from the comfort of my own room. We got popcorn from the concessions to complete the experience. They do have microwaves in the room if you want to bring your own popcorn. The continental breakfast was also delicious. The rooms looked recently updated, and they were nice and spacious.
The bed and bedding combination at this hotel made for a very comfortable night's sleep for the entire family. Of course, the novelty of watching a new release movie from the hotel room was a hit for the kids.
Hotel was clean and has been updated in what appears to be the past few years. Clean. Issue with internet and TV not working, probably just a down server. Not a big deal for me as I was headed to bed. Quite novel to turn on the speaker, open the curtain and watch the feature at the drive-in out the window. fun experience.
This was just a one night stop on a road trip to the Four Corners area. But in the end it could have been a destination in and of itself. While we were there, I scoured the internet to see if I could find another hotel that over looked a drive in, and this is the only one. It's incredibly unique. Put it on your bucket list and tell your friends, there isn't another one like this on the planet. Ask for a room on the second floor, and let them know which movie you want to see. The lady at front desk was very kind and helpful. The rooms do have a microwave and fridge. You can go to the concessions stand and get pop corn and cokes. We brought a bottle of wine. Chairs can be pulled over to watch the movie close to the windows. Don't miss the sunset out the front side of the hotel at dusk. Breakfast was great! Biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, waffles, toast and more. Clean and friendly. This is a must stop destination that is unlike anything you've seen. All of my friends were envious of the pictures on Facebook. Go to this hotel!
DO NOT STAY HERE if you value quiet, security, comfort, and guest service. Upon arrival front desk clerk aka General Manager's wife, struggled to process my Best Western Travel cards, with check-in taking (30) minutes. Upon finally completing that lengthy process, I drove my RV to back lot by storage bins as instructed. At the base of the stairs to my 2nd floor room was a truck complete with (3) male construction workers who happened to be laying flooring in a room just down from mine. I had to navigate my way around debris and yellow tape to access my room and then listen to hammering/ staple gun for two hours before they finally cleared out. That evening was very busy and quite loud, but that is not unexpected fir a Friday night. What was unexpected was the uncomfortably hard bed which is very rare at a Best Western. I resorted to grabbing two blankets from my rig and laying them down for some padding.... to no avail. Suffice it to say, it was a VERY lovely long night:( Very early the next morning having not slept, I went to breakfast and requested a late check out from the ONE kind woman behind the desk, telling her of my struggle with the bed and of my desire to rest before hitting the road later that day. This request was granted. A shirt time later I went out to my rig to grab a personal belongings no and noted the white truck from the day before complete with barking dogs. I looked up towards my room just as one of three men opened my door with a master key and began to enter my room. I yelled " what are you doing" and he shut the door and said " oops wrong room." I was very upset and told all three men that they should not be entering rooms with a master key and called the front desk. The General mangers wife answered and told me to " just relax". I promptly gathered my belongings and my dog and went to check out. I again spoke to her of my distress and she argued with me. I fled and within a half hour the General manager Mike called and left a voicemail expressing his "disappointment" in me for being rude to his front desk clerk (his wife) and his maintenance men. I filed a complaint with Best Western. Take heed and stay elsewhere!!
The room was Clean, the front desk was very nice & helpful, the breakfast was good, lots of food & choices, the coffee was good -for me to say that is a real compliment! It would score an excellent IF (1) we could know what movie was playing at the time of our reservation. Pirates of the Caribbean was not appropriate for any of our family members. (2) Wish the bed was closer to the window to view the movie in comfort. 3 chairs (not comfy) not enough for 4 people. (3) Wish it would have been mentioned in your website that there is a micro & fridge in the room.-Weird-as this is big selling point with our family!
Fun experience. I would be sure what screen the movie will be playing vs. what room you may be in. We were facing towards the wrong screen, so had to sit in chairs, instead of relaxing in the bed. Whole purpose was to sit in bed and watch the movie.
Really nice staff. Room, lobby, breakfast area were clean. Guests are able to see (and listen) the movie w/out leaving their rooms :) BWMM also provides hot breakfast. For sure we'll come back to stay in here when we come next time.
Great place to stay. Mike and his crew are excellent. Everyone matters at this place. Rooms were clean and breakfast was great. Everyone helped from the check in to the check out. Workout room was clean. The movie was great and clear.
Mike saved my family & I, from not having a place to stay! An unfortunate situation with the Sandhill Inn & Suites overbooking left us with no where to go, and a 3 1/2 hour drive from home with 3 small children. We really enjoyed our stay here! The rooms are clean, free wi-fi, breakfast was delicious, the staff is so polite, and the overall experience was wonderful. We also attended the drive-in theater, that is unique to this to this hotel. They have 2 different screens for viewing, a great concession stand, and right next to the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel, from personal experience. Thank you Mike! -Lynnette Marquez-
Really enjoyed our stay. Sami was very helpful at check-in. Mike and Sangita manage a very unique and distinct hotel, never experienced hotel with a drive-in movie but can't wait to do it again! Will definitely come back!
Like other reviewers we liked this place. It's a unique experience. We'll be returning. If you're considering a stay here--do it! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is much better than your usual breakfast fare. If you go away hungry; it's your fault. Also a note on the Fernandez Taqueria in town; very good, tasty, and satisfying food. Don't be put off by it's exterior appearance and interior decor. The taqueria is on the north side of main street, across from the Safeway store. It's set back from the road about 1/2 block. Yes it still closes early-6:30.
During our trip to Colorado we decided to go to the outdoor Star Drive-In Theater in Monte Vista which was not a disappointment. We were staying in South Fork so we didn't say in the motel, we just watched the movie. We had met Mike the owner earlier in the day and based on this conversation we wanted to see and feel a little of the true "Americana" we are losing day-by-day. Just select one of the two movies playing and tune in with your FM radio and enjoy.
This is a unique fun experience to definitely add to the bucket list. The drive in movie screens add a unique twist to the vacation. We watched on from our room and one from the car at the drive in. Two different but equally fun experiences.
I last stayed at Movie Manor during a ski trip in March of 2006, when it was independently operated, and enjoyed the unique set-up, looking out from my room to the drive-in movie screen. Of course, it being March, the drive-in wasn't yet open. So, when my wife wanted to travel in this direction recently, I made sure to reserve a room again. I was not disappointed. The property is now affiliated with Best Western and is even better than I remembered it. The single Queen bed room was very clean, spacious and well-equipped. We slept well. The breakfast featured several hot items, as well as the usual cereal and baked goods selection. The highlights of the stay, though, were our conversations with Mike, the owner. He's real personable and has all kinds of stories about where he's been and what he's done. Best Western Rewards members: reserve through the BW web site for the best room rate.
This hotel was very welcoming. The staff were very friendly and helpful . The room was clean nicely decorated and had everything we needed . Mini refrigerator , microwave and big screen movie viewing from the room was an extra bonus . Just turn on the speaker and your set for the movie. The bed was very comfortable as well. Breakfast was great. The views around the hotel are spectacular and the sunset did not disappoint. If your in this area this is a great motel to rest up and enjoy the view. We had dinner at the BBQ place right next door and the food was very good and the staff very friendly. Enjoy Thanks Mike !
We loved the experience, nothing fancy but a must do and see once, at least ! The rooms are clean, furnished nicely, have a little frig, microwave, if you are looking for a 5 star motel, it is not but it is good -- considering it's age, we loved it. We even got to see a good movie......current movie !
Loved the Hollywood theme with views of the drive-in theater next door. It was a unique experience with nice and clean rooms. I would recommend to anyone needing to relax for the night, especially if you're doing the drive through the middle of Colorado!
We didn't know why it was called "movie manor" until getting off the phone while booking our room and the receptionist told us. What a cool idea! The room was clean, staff was friendly and breakfast was yummy. We loved it and enjoyed our stay.
Mr. Mike did a great job!!! I forgot my valet at front desk when I was talking to Mr. Mike and told him that I am attending a meeting in Alamosa Restaurant. As soon he noticed that I forgot my valet at the front desk, he called and brought my valet to me. This is call going extra mile to get the job done, in hospitality business, this was the first time ever seen this type of service
Visited Monte Vista for a roller derby this weekend. Next time we will definitely come the day before just so we can stay two nights and see the drive in movie from our hotel room bed! Customer service was excellent! Above and beyond. Our room had been recently renovated and was clean, comfortable and very nice. Great food at the restaurant next door and the owner is very personable and accommodating. We loved it.
We have stayed with Best Western Movie Manor for years, as has family members. Enjoyable viewing from your room as the sound is piped in. If you want the experience of the "drive-in" from your car or the comfort of your room, this is the motel for you. We booked the Nick Nolte room with a king sized bed this trip,
A drive-in Movie theater attached, a nice option for motel off the beaten path. A well lite and spacious dinning room for breakfast. Nice place for a night stay in middle of Colorado. I would stay again.
Fantastic service, great breakfast, and a ridiculously awesome giant drive in theater you can view from your room with sound piped in. What more can you ask for before contemplating suicide while driving across the WIDTH OF KANSAS WHY IS THAT STATE SO WIDE?? WHO DECIDED THIS, AND WHERE CAN I GO TO PUNCH THEIR DESCENDANTS IN THE FACE?!?!? In conclusion, neat place. The movie manor, not Kansas. Eff Kansas.
For such a historic property it really is a kept well and clean. I don't know what I was expecting, but the hotel certainly exceeded my expectations. Upon attainable the clerk informed the second story had a room I could use on he second story that would be better than my booked room. She said it would be better to watch the movie from there. Great service!
In the small town of Monte Vista, CO is a Best Western hotel that doesn't look like much. It's attached to a drive-in theater and is a bit out of town. The Best Western Movie Manor is the unlikely gem, because it is such a great place. The staff is terrific, very friendly and very helpful. The rooms are much larger than other hotel rooms that we've stayed in, with plenty of parking. All appliances were in working order, the beds were comfortable and the room was immaculate. Each room was named after a star and faced a drive-in theater. When the theater is in operation, the room occupants can tune into the movie with the push of a button. The breakfast area was large, airy with a great view of the mountains and had a substantial variety of food to offer -- and all for free. If you're ever in southern Colorado, just east of Durango, give the Best Western Movie Manor a try, it's an unlikely gem.
This was an excellent hotel - service, location, movie theme, staff were all great. The breakfast items were the best we have seen at a Best Western hotel. We will stay here again on our travels. We will stay here again.
The movie manor motel is very very clean . The employees especially Mike were most helpful . great sunsets and sunrises outside your front door. Picnic table available for your use/ A/c works well. We also saw a movie on Sunday night. The hot breakfasts are served in a wonderful room surrounded with glass windows
This is a comfortable motel which shows outdoor movies in the summer (viewable from the rooms) and is about 15 minutes from the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge - great for crane watchers. Rooms are comfortable with nice linens, 4 pillows, a refrigerator, microwave, table, desk and good Internet. The only drawback: the windows don't open, but they are large.
Staff was awesome and rooms were comfortable and clean. Beautiful view. We will definitely be staying here again when we make another trip to Colorado. Traveled from Texas and we were happy with our stay.
Unfortunately I was here after the movie season but you can tell it would be a unique experience. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. The clerk was polite and helpful. Very reasonable rates. Good wifi
When I heard that you can watch a drive in movie from my room while laying on the bed, I decided that I had to try this place out. I was not disappointed. First of all the owner Mike was incredibly friendly and hospitable. He and his wife make you feel welcome from the time you arrive to the time you leave. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The movie experience was fun. My only complaint was having to go up stairs. However, this is a 60's style Americana type of place to stay and is very nostalgic. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. The value was good. I would stay here again.
Room was a standard motel room but was comfortable enough for one night. The hotel is a few miles from Monte Vista so transport is needed to get food. The best part for us is that the room comes with a view of the drive in theatre. They were screening Sully the night we were there and we could have watched it from our rooms (most rooms have an unobscured view of the screen), there is a volume switch in each room but we chose to drive round the building and do the proper drive-in experience. You tune the radio into the frequency they tell you and you're off. Excellent Breakfast was pretty good, usual choice of cereal, bagel and hot food and build your own muesli.
A slice of Americana everyone should experience - all rooms face one of two drive in movie screens, and guests watch from their rooms! Current films are shown approximately Memorial Day - Labor Day. Our room was large (recliners/easy chairs for watching movie), clean, comfortable, and breakfast was included in very reasonable room rate. A beautiful rural area in southern Colorado, within comfortable driving distance of a number of visitor attractions. The hotel is located on the edge of town, so nice and quiet for sleeping, and the night sky is breathtaking! The best recommendation? Yes, we would definitely go there again!
We visited this motel in 1991 with our kids and were pleased they were still open so made a return visit! I give it a 5 star rating because the whole concept is just so fun! The place is very clean, very Americana, very kitsch and a very nice staff! It is true.... you watch a movie through a huge picture window looking at a drive-in screen! The sound is piped in through speakers in the ceiling! In some rooms, you can do while lying in bed.... in others, you need to pull up the chairs! I would suggest to the motel staff to put ottomans in those rooms for a more stretched out comfort position! Love this place!
We stayed here recently on the way to thru Colorado to Colorado Springs. The proprietors were friendly and accommodating. The room, fairly standard but clean and comfortable and less expensive than most we have stayed at on our road trip. (Ours was the "Audrey Hepburn" room). But ... what a treat! Shortly after checking in and getting comfortable, we sat side by side, watching the drive-in movie through our room's picture window! (the movie, "Sully", was pretty good as well and, 1 hr 36 min, just the right length). One of the best, most novel experiences of our whole trip. Catch it if you can. (But note that the season for drive-in movies ends at the end of Sept.). Other notes: > breakfast is included, and "ok" but could include more fresh fruit. > workout room has standard treadmill, bike and elliptical and a universal but no free weights. > don't miss Fernandez Taqueria -- for some of the best, authentic Mexican food you've ever tasted! and prices very reasonable! (See separate review). Just a few miles on the other side of Monte Vista but note that the restaurant closes at 6:30 pm.
We stayed at the Best Western Mobie Manor on 3 separate nights during an Elk hunting trip. We were forced to book rooms due to weather issues in the mountains. The front desk/owner were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel was nice and comfortable. It featured a drive in theatre that you could watch from your picture window with speakers in your room to Listen to. The rooms were adequate for our needs and clean. The breakfast was also adequate with some hot food. It was a decent hotel for a small town, the only downside was it was a bit pricey but they were close to full each night so we took the room.
We decided to check this place out because it was such a novelty ... a movie hotel! Drive in movies are so rare these days and then attach a hotel ... we couldn't go past. Mike, the owner, is a really special guy, interesting, energetic, interested in his guests and dedicated to providing the best possible accommodation experience. Our room was spotlessly clean, super comfortable and so relaxing after some big days of driving and exploring. They don't scrimp on anything... including lovely linens and towels. Breakfast was the best we've had at any motel along our travels. Great waffles, fruit, coffee, pastries, cereals and delicious toppings. If you're anywhere in this stunning area of Colorado, stay with Mike and Sangita, watch a movie on the big screen from your comfy arm chairs and have a wonderful night's sleep. Thanks Guys, hopefully we'll catch up again either here or in Australia. ??
We were tired and very suprised upon check in to find this hotel has big windows facing their own outdoor movie theatre with the sound piped into the room. We got our pajamas on, made some snacks and watched the movie out the window from our bed. What a fun experience. We slept well and the mountain view from the breakfast area was fantastic as well as the selection of healthy choices for breakfast. The staff was very friendly. Love it!
We had reservations and check in went smooth and easy. Our very fairly priced room was on the end of the far building but we had a great view of both movie screens (watched Nemo) you can listen to the audio in your room and choose either movie. The room was very spacious and clean with acres of parking space right outside - Big Rigs welcome here!. The bathroom was a good size with a powerful and hot shower. Wi-Fi worked excellent. It was super quiet location and we got an awesome nights sleep on the big comfortable beds. Breakfast was a really good spread including hot items with an attendant keeping everything re-filled and clean. From the breakfast room there is a very nice view of the mountains - must be awesome when there is snow up there!! Sad to leave and we will definantly stay here again if we are in the area.
We were traveling through Monte Vista on our way to Durango and stopped off for the night at Best Western Movie Manor. What a fun, fantastic place! The rooms are very clean and beautifully decorated - with crown molding, comfy King-sized bed and a movie theme. (Each room is named after a famous star of the silver screen.) The best part - after sundown, we opened the drapes on our room's huge picture window, and watched a first-run movie on the big drive-in theater screen next door, with the sound pumped right into the room! Breakfast the next morning was fantastic, and the spacious dining room has spectacular views of the mountains. The staff is also friendly and attentive. A great place to stay!
It was our last night after travelling for 7 weeks in the US and we rated this as our best experience. Our room was called the Vivian Leigh, our room had pictures of collages of old movie stars, all rooms face the large drive-in theatre screen and the sound track is piped to the rooms. I think the new release movies are nightly. The breakfast bar was comprehensive and immaculate, not a thing out of place and food was immediately replenished. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back here for the experience.
I was traveling to Southern Colorado with my dog to enjoy some time away. I had called to reserve a pet friendly room, but didn't realize I had called the main reservations number vs. the front desk of the Movie Manor. I arrived late at night and Mike was at the desk. When he told me what I had done and that he had no more pet rooms available since the hotel was full, I couldn't believe I had made that mistake. I thought I was going to have to find another hotel at almost midnight. Mike told me not to worry and he would take care of it. He got me and the dog settled into a room and we were able to keep the room the entire stay - and I was able to watch the movie from my room. The customer service that Mike and Sangita provided was outstanding. The room was very clean and inviting. I had a wonderful stay and will definitely go back again!! I can't wait for the season to open again next year!! Thank you so much Mike S. and Sangita!!
I loved this place, it's so cool! I travel from Boulder to Farmington NM at least once a yr, and take 285/Wolf Creek pass way. A friend recommended this place, and I am so happy we stopped here! It's close to the Sand Dunes, so excellent idea to stay one night on the way. My 7yr old LOVED it! It's basically a drive-in theater which you can see through your hotel window, with the speakers in your room. Kid friendly movies. Clean and nice and affordable. The manager Mike and his wife were so super awesome too! They had some technical difficulties and the movie started a little late, but they dealt with the situation promptly. They were so friendly too!! Free continental breakfast in morning, nice area to eat, or you can just take back to room. Smaller place so close to car from room. Get a room on the 2nd level if you can. Play ground in from of screens for kids too. You can also park in front of screen if you want also. We will definitely be back and will tell all of our friends!!
My husband and I were visiting CO to connect with long ago relatives and stayed at the Best Western Movie Manor. We booked our reservations on an online site and experienced some difficulties. The owners Mike and his wife were immensely helpful in getting the problem resolved. Our room was spotlessly cleaned and this facility has the added bonus of being part of a drive-in movie. We were able to watch the movie, "The Secret Life of Pets" from our room with the audio piped into the room. Breakfast was served and had many options both hot and cold. The breakfast room was large and spacious. Again, Mike and his wife were AWESOME and we can't recommend BEST WESTERN Movie Manor more highly.
I have been coming to the Movie Manor with my grandchildren for many years and we always enjoy the experience. From the playground when they were little to popcorn in bed as you watch the movie . Where else can you have this experience? Though the hotel is older, they have kept it up and the staff is wonderful. Really go out of there way to be at your service.
This is the 2nd time we've stayed at the Movie Motel. It is such a fun place to stay. You can watch a drive-in movie from the comfort of your motel room. The managers are kind & care about your comfort. The toilet handle was broken and she sent a guy to fix it immediately. A good breakfast was included.
Two friends and I stayed here while we were visiting yet another friend in Alamosa. We had been researching hotels all through the area and then we stumbled across this great gem when we broadened outside of our first search. We saw that it was a hotel with a drive-in! Seriously, how many of these even exist anymore?! It was great. Our stay was comfortable, we had a super clean room on a top floor. Only downside the first night was that the speakers didn't work in our room. So, rather than be deterred from the movie, we jumped in the car and drove over to the drive in part. One of us stayed behind and informed us via text that they came up and fixed the speaker right after she called down to let them know. We just stayed in the car. It was a great experience and it really wasn't that far from Alamosa, so we got to hit Sonic on the way back every night for cherry limeaids. lol
On business trip and stayed at Best Western Movie Manor. Vintage property with loads of charm and a beautiful setting with stunning views. Room was spotless and fresh and property as a whole kept very tidy and clean. Watching a movie at the drive in from the room window is such a cool option! Having the million dollar view from the breakfast room through a huge wall of windows is a great start to the day! Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be back.
Our destination was not the Best Western Movie Manor, but we found it to be delightful despite its age. The clerk, likely the manager was very nice & helpful. He told us if we get to our room, we could leave the lights off, the sound for the movie could be tuned in & we could watch the outdoor theatre from our room. Nice idea, but we watched Monday night football instead.
Overall and average roadside motel but well-kept and clean. Not many options in this area so if you are visiting the Great Sand Dunes park this may be your best option. Best feature - the movie screen outside your room is part of an attached drive-in theater still in operation! You sit in your room and watch the movie with sound piped into the room. Or you can walk to the theater or drive your car and admission is included. Nice breakfast - overall a very good option for this area. Restaurants 3-3 miles away.
Nothing to look at from the road but it was a really nice stay. Very clean and recently updated, the room was large, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast room was bright and airy and breakfast was up to the Best Western standard we are growing used to on this 1200 mile road trip. Staff were really helpful. Special thanks to Rayanna for information and water when we left. Owner Sangita was also very friendly - this was a nice one-night stop on the way to Arizona. Their feature is the drive-in movie theatre adjacent. You can lay on your bed and the sound is piped into the rooms. For us the screen was too far away to really 'get into' themovie, but I am sure many enjoy the free movie (it was 'Finding Dory). We ate at the (only?) Chinese restaurant in town but it was mediocre I am afraid, taste nothing special. We recommend this hotel.
Clean and very friendly staff. Would recommend this motel if you are in the area. The area is well kept with plenty of parking. You can watch a movie from your room. This is something that is unique about this motel.
What can you say about the experience at a good motel with a drive in? You can stay in the comfort of your room and enjoy a drive-in movie!??- It's the best.- Grew up coming here to the drive-in and stayed a room a few times for fun and when company came to visit. Great to come back with our family now. They LOVE it! The new owners work tirelessly to see that all their guests have a superb visit. They were in the concession stand and at the front desk the next morning. Hats off to you! Can't wait to visit again one day.
I found this to be the "BEST" Best Western we have stayed at! First, when checking in we were greeted by the friendliest staff (Mike and Sangita) they made you feel so welcomed. The room was old, but kept very clean, charming and did I mention the bed was comfortable. The fact that myself, boyfriend and grandson could watch the Drive-In, Finding Dory out of our room window and hear it perfect from the room speakers and then the next night to watch Pete's Dragon at the Drive-in (like old times) surely put the icing on the cake. The breakfast was fresh and a well-stocked buffet style. This was the most unique and friendly place we have ever stayed.
This hotel is charming. The rooms face a drive in movie screen and with the flip of a switch, we could hear the movie while watching it. The beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are a bit small, but this is an older facility. That said, it is very well kept and spotlessly clean. They've done an excellent job of updating rooms while preserving the feeling of a '60's hotel. Breakfast had many options, all the usual fare. The common rooms have also been updated nicely. Once we read about the hotel, we went out of our way to visit. It was worth the extra time and miles. We'll be back.
Fun place to stay, property kept up very well. Very friendly staff. Beautiful area, wonderful farmers market. Definitely will stay again. Spent morning at farmers market and exploring surrounding sites. Breakfast buffet was fresh and the dining area has wonderful view of mountains
I found this to be one of the best stops on our trip. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sound with the movie in our room. Nice large room, clean and quiet. The breakfast was well done and stocked very well. This is by far the most unique place we have ever stayed.
July 25th on vacation. The check in, young lady Miss Bonner was very nice and happy to be there. I asked how long she worked there and was several years, that says great ownership about a business, great start to my stay with dad, mom, wife and 9 year old son. We got to see the new Star Trek Movie from our room, great experience. The view in the morning that my dad and I had of the hills and mountains was amazing. The breakfast young lady was awesome. Was extremely honored to stay here, everything was perfect.
We traveled late and were not able to watch the drive in movie. I would be happy to plan ahead and arrive early enough to watch the movie from the room. We had the Grace Kelly room, and I immediately stood up taller and straighter! The movie décor was very nice.
Stopped on our way to Yellowstone. A stay unlike any other. Speaker in room ceiling with volume knob and on/off switch on wall, very good quality sound despite our room missing the volume knob. We could still adjust volume by turning the metal rod. Window for watching movie clear and large. Screen somewhat far from room but guests can use their room key to drive right up to the screen or to buy concessions from the drive-in's stand. Playground equipment also present at the front of the screen for kids or adventurous adults. :) Sunrise was beautiful and made me wish I had brought golf clubs and balls to play on the small driving range a little. Breakfast was filling and well-stocked.
We needed to change from a regular to ADA room due to increased arthritis pain and the inability to grip handles and such. The room was very comfortable and everything in the room was easy to use. The ability to watch a current movie on one of the drive-in theater screens from the comfort of our room was fun. The sound was great (not like the screechy/scratchy sounding speakers they used to have in the theater. Great option for a trip to Great Sand Dunes. My only complaint is that you need to drive into town for dinner, as the restaurant next door is no longer in business.
If you are going for the movie, forget it. I guess you have to pay a premium rate to get a room where you can comfortably watch it. The hotel is OLD. My hubby used to stay here in the 70s and it has had little updating, to judge by the bathroom in our room.
It has been a few years but my late husband stayed here one night just to see a drive inn movie from a motel room. The room was way too costly for the cheap carpeting and furniture. It was mostly clean but if I had been the boss It wouldn't had the smears on the windows and mirrors. The experience was not worth the money we spent. The date listed below is incorrect due to having only so many choices. I believe it was summer of 1998
We stayed here one night in our road trip before heading to sand dunes national park. What a great place and we loved the drive in movie screens. You can watch from your room and pipe in the sound or visit the actual drive in, which is included in your room rate. As we don't have drive in movie screens in the UK this was something we have always wanted to do and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The owners were really lovely, very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. Our room was very clean, a good size, themed with different movie stars and there was a good choice for breakfast too. All in all a great stay and would highly recommend for something a bit different from run of the milk motels.
This place was on my bucket list and my wife brought me there as a surprise for my 60th birthday. John and Sammy at the front desk when we checked in were fantastic! They treated us like Royalty. They made sure we had the best room in the place for watching both Driving Screens. The Rooms are named after movie stars. We stayed for two nights (both movies). On Sunday when we checked out Mike became a friend in less than 5 minutes. We are checking the movies and when we see a good one we will be back!
We first stayed at the Movie Manor Motor Inn in 1989 as part of a cross-country family vacation. We selected this motel due to the uniqueness of being able to watch the drive-in movie from your room and have the sound piped into your room. Very cool. Amazingly, our daughter married someone from Monte Vista, thus we have repeatedly stayed here over the last several years. Each visit is more disappointing than the last. When we stayed there in July 2016, the room was not very clean. The previous guest's ear ring was on the table. Clearly, there was not a wipe down or even dusting between guests. Not good in fighting colds and flu. Also, in July the in-room refrig had the food from the previous guest. We thought we would give this place one more chance and stayed here this month, August, 2016. Continued disappointment. Neither one of the end table lamps worked nor the alarm clock due to not being plugged in. There was only one outlet on that side of the room and it was directly behind the bed. The two maintenance guys had to move the bed out and plug in an extension cord behind the bed to get the lamps and clock working. How in the world could this have happened?? Does not housekeeping at least turn on the lights in the room when they clean and would have noticed this issue? The toilet sounded like a high pitched whistle when it flushed and did not always shut off. Loud enough to wake up not only any guests in our room but probably next door and downstairs as well. The wall air conditioning unit made so much noise that it was useable at night.
One of the most novel places I've ever stayed at. The rooms are all themed by movie stars and it was fun to watch a drive in movie from our big hotel room window. The sound was controlled in the room and it sounded great. They do have a concession stand but we were too full from dinner to try it. The rooms are nice and clean, the beds and pillows were comfy and the customer service was excellent. Breakfast in the morning was very good and filling. Great experience for movie lovers. I would definitely return!
We visited the sand dunes then spent the night here. Clean with helpful staff. The drive in movie was a fun addition to the room! Includes a hot breakfast. Good local places to eat. Would stay there again if we went back to the area and would recommend to others
This place was GREAT! Spotless room & bathroom. Comfortable bedding, easy check-in, quiet. Included breakfast was even nice! Having the Drive In theater there was icing on the cake. What fun! The room rate was very affordable and only $20 extra for our dog. It's about an hour from the Great Sand Dunes and about 10 mins outside of downtown Monte Vista. Perfect place to stay for families with pets or kids. I highly recommend!
This was a cute idea for a hotel. We came the Sand Dunes, stayed here on the way to Durango. Had a nice breakfast, great price, nice folks at the front desk. We got in right when the movie started, it was Star Trek, (Ghost Busters on the other screen). Wish it was a G or PG movie, having 2 young kids. We watched a few minutes worth, before it was a little scary for them. I brought microwave popcorn and twizzlers. The on/off volume was on the wall with a great speaker. The shower pressure was not very good, it was a drizzle, even changing the sprayer, none of them were strong. Breakfast was good, lots to choose from, hot or cold. I would stay here again.
I'm so glad all of the other hotels were booked, forcing my hand to my first stay at a Best Western. This unique property was extremely clean and well managed. The staff was very personable and helpful, and our room was comfortable and clean (which is very important to me). Most of all, this is one of the most unique hotels in which I've ever stayed. We didn't arrive early enough to take full advantage of the drive-in movie available to our room, but it was still so neat! I'd recommend this hotel far above others in the area. It is a great value!
This was the first motel, Best Western and other brands, where there was a separate annex for pet owners and their four legged companions. Apparently, at one time, there must have been a RV park also on the property and the office and rest room block was converted into six rooms for guests with pets. Did not take advantage of the movie at the drive-in theater but what a novel idea.
Ok, I admit it. I am a bit of a hotel snob. I don't like exterior doors or other aspects of motels. But we were tired and ready to sleep somewhere. Call me surprised! From Rayenna (I hope I spelled that right) at the front desk who offered to carrymy bags upstairs when I asked about an elevator (wow) to the family fun we had watching new release Star Trek from our room (they even have a concession stand--it's a real drive in like the ones of yore--you have stereo in your room and face the screen), I was pleased with each part. Finally, many places "say" they have hot breakfast, but this place offered many hot options. Clean. My son said it was the best place of the entire trip!
This hotel was such a cool place for our family when we visited Great Sand Dunes. The property is in a very nice setting in the Valley with plenty of outdoor space for kids to run around. There is also a vintage playground near the Movie Screen that our kids enjoyed playing on. The motel was very clean, and the beds were comfortable. Before the movie started, we got dinner at the concession stand. The food was surprisingly good! The movie viewing experience from the room was so fun. The sound was great, and the view was excellent. Free breakfast the next morning was tasty, and the view from the breakfast room was beautiful. I highly recommend this place!
The rooms , bathrooms and grounds were very neat & clean. Beds were very comfortable. Staff was pleasent & breakfast was nice. Great place for kids. I thought it was awesome to be able to watch a movie from the drive inn next door! I am very picky & had a pleasent stay all in all.
I'm not aware of many motels in the world where you can see and hear a drive-in movie from your room. This is one. Older motel but well maintained. Rooms were large, clean and had refrigerator and microwave . Wi Fi and breakfast at no additional cost. Motel also cost substantially less than motels in nearby Alamosa.
I was so intrigued by being able to watch "Star Trek" from my room! However, the sound volume was so low that there was no way to hear the dialogue, so I wasn't able to take advantage of this intrinsic draw of the motel. The rooms were very dated; the carpet was filthy, with stains. The outside steps were rickety.
We added an extra night on to a 10 day road trip through South Western Colorado to go check out the Movie Manor and it was well worth it! Great Hotel. Clean. Staff was very friendly and the free breakfast in the morning was great! Our kids loved the unique hotel experience and the movie and sound quality in the room was perfect! We have recommended it to a lot of friends to check out on the ventures as well.
Nice hotel with very friendly staff. Room was very clean and recently updated. We watched the secret life of pets from our room. My kids stated that this was their favorite place to stay so far. Breakfast was awesome and again very clean. Really liked staying here.
Awesome hotel. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable people; clean, spacious, well-appointed rooms, appealing decor, many amenities and a free movie at the drive-in theater. AND, if you don't want to sit in your car, you can watch the movie from your room!~ Complete with a picture window facing screen 1 and piped-in sound from the movie. Breakfast was tasty and included. I'd stay here any time I was going to be in the area. Prices were in line with other hotels in the area (summer in Colorado is not cheap). It's worth the money where other hotels we stayed in on this trip were pricier and not as nice.
What a great time combining the best of yesterday's drive in movie fun with all the amenities of today. The BW Movie Manor is a one of a kind and a must stay in Southern Colorado. Stay in a clean comfortable room with all the amenities you would expect. And after dark watch current (not dated) movies right from your rooms window on the adjoining drive in theater screen. The sound from the movie is played right in your room. Not to be outdone the staff is super friendly and the complimentary breakfast is one of the best of any hotel of this quality. Worth going out of your way to stay here.
We loved our stay here. They have a very nice breakfast room too. We walked to the concession stand and got popcorn and took it back to our room. We would return. It was a really nice room as well. You can buy a Movie Manor t-shirt too.
Best Western is the only place we stay when traveling. This place did not disappoint. Grounds were clean and beautiful. The room was spotless, the beds were comfy and of course the breakfast was great. Room 216 on the second floor was the very best to view screen 1 of the drive-inn theatre next door. Just flip the switch to hear the movie! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
This is an old (from the 60s) hotel. The rooms are small but appointed nicely, there is even a refrigerator and microwave in the room. There are not many outlets available except at the desk but this place wasn't built for all of our current electronics. We ran out of hot water at 2000 in evening when I was drawing a bath. The issue was most probably an undersized hot water heater but this wasn't the normal time of day a motel would run out of water. We lost the sound in our room for about three minutes while watching the movie. We scrambled to try and tune in the sound on the radio but it was weak and full of static. The room speakers came on again as mysteriously as they went out which was a relief as the speaker in the room works really well and the sound was crisp and clear so that was the best way to listen. This motel is an activity in and of itself with the movie theater. As a motel it is average with average amenities, an average breakfast, way above average price and average staff.
I can't help but wonder, what came first? The drive in movie or the hotel? Probably at the same time. Really doesn't matter, because this is a pretty nice place to stay. Very clean, very polite managers, and just a peaceful place to spend the night. Every room has a view of the big screen except the annex. The sound is wired into the rooms and you can sit in chairs by the table and watch or lay on the bed and watch. Two suggestions. Make it possible to choose which screen you want to watch and, I am not sure why the restaurant is not open for business but that would make it nice as well. The hotel is a couple miles out of town, and not much eating choices unless you go back to Alamosa. All in all a very pleasant night and some great long distance views in all directions.
This is an older hotel but they've clearly updated the beds and bedding, which are very comfortable. Newer tv that appeared to have volume control so it wouldn't go very high. We're not hearing impaired, but it would have been nice to have it a bit louder. Kind of odd since you can listen to the drive in movie at blaring decibels. Hotel is an hour, give or take, from Great Sand Dunes NP. Our 3 & 5 yr old were with us and it really was cool to be able to see the movie from our room. Perfect view out the picture window. You can't lie on your bed to watch except sitting on the end and we had to use a chair as well but it was fun for sure. There are actually 2 screens with movies playing and they don't begin until later, when it's completely dark. Think fireworks show time, so 9:30 in the summer (despite telling us 9). We couldn't hear the other movie and could only see it from the corner of our room. I'm not sure how they figure out where to put you, because one movie is clearly for kids (Secret Life of Pets for us) and another definitely more adult (Central Intelligence). Whole novelty of the place would have been ruined if the kids couldn't watch the movie. Maybe they put families facing the one screen and adults facing the other? Anyhow, there's some wall switches to play the movie, or music, in the room and the sound is pretty good. Ours was a bit scratchy but you could only hear it during quieter parts and didn't take away from the movie for any of us. Same movies played Sat and Sun night but they were movies still in theater. You can opt to actually go to the drive in and watch from your vehicle. Other positives were a nice hot shower with great water pressure, full breakfast offered (packed on Saturday but dead on Sunday), spacious room, prompt help with any problems, felt clean, plenty of pillows. Some negatives were that our toilet would not flush repeatedly and the seat kept breaking off. No DVD player but perhaps that's because there's a movie out the window ;) The WiFi is terrible. It buffered constantly on our tablet and I would have to log back in frequently on my phone. Very annoying. Not many food options in town other than fast food. I would absolutely visit here again for the novelty, great service, and price.
Rooms, breakfast and especially the movie exceeded my expectations! My daughters and I were really pleased. For the cost of a movie at the theatre, a great breakfast and the nice rooms, this hotel is an excellent value! We wanted to see "Finding Dory" and could not have been happier with the sound quality and the awesome experience of watching movie in the room! Unique and fun
We were in the John Wayne room, waited til the movie started, all in the comfort of our room. The movie was not to our liking, so we watched a few minutes and then turned off the sound and closed the curtains, never heard another sound. The breakfast was wonderful, with fruit, yogurt, waffles, eggs, bacon and lots of bread items.
A nice little surprise. We would definitely stay here again. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were GOoD and the room was clean. GOoD selection for breakfast with plenty of choices. The front desk staff was helpful as well. Next time we will try to arrive in time to catch the the movie from the beginning.
We were looking for a destination midway between Farmington, NM and Denver and selected this location. First impressions are this is an older facility but were pleasantly surprised to find the rooms well maintained and very clean. Our kids loved watching the drive-in movie from the hotel room. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast bar offered ample selections.
Alamosa was fully booked, but I found this little gem in nearby Monte Vista and was intrigued by Trip Adviser reviews, but Mom was skeptical. The hotel itself is very average, but the quirk here is a TOTAL game changer! The Drive in Movie Theater factor is SO cool! The themes throughout are all retro Hollywood and each room is named for a celebrity. We were in 217, John Travolta. (Vincent Vega) Right above the Arnold Schwarzenegger workout room. The highlight for Mom was the movie, Finding Dory. While it might not have been my choice, I admit it was good. And Mom LOVED it. We both VERY much enjoyed the whole experience and came away talking about this stay and watching the movie in our room as much as anything else we had done on our trip. Awesome unique hotel here! Check it out if yer in the area.
The audio in the room went out 4 times throughout the movie. It took 5-10 minutes and a call to the front desk to get the problems addressed. The audio went out just when the climax of the movie happened and we missed the whole thing because we were trying to get ahold of the front desk. The plumbing was also an issue. The plumbing went out and the kids could not take a shower, brush their teeth, or even get a drink of water. Plumbing was out for over an hour. In my opinion, the room was overpriced for all the problems we had. The check out clerk didn't even care. She told us it was not her problem.
Although it's otherwise a standard motel, the Movie Manor Inn's gimmick of viewing movies from the rooms was really entertaining. It's basically a motel situated next to a drive-in theater. The screen was pretty small but directly centered from the vantage point of our window. The sound system for the movie ostensibly has multiple settings, but ours basically had quiet and loud with no gradations between. There are two movie screens: the one facing the motel plays family-friendly films, and guests can view the other for free as a drive-in movie. The accommodations were comfortable and reasonably clean (although a previous guest's open Coke can was left in the mini fridge). The complimentary breakfast included a variety of hot and cold options, and our kids loved the waffle iron. Our family enjoyed staying here.
Wonderful hotel! The manager and his son were very nice and made us feel welcome. It was very clean and comfortable, the free breakfast had lots of choices. I have already recommended to friends and family
Clean and renovated. Kids were excited to watch the drive in movie {teenage mutant ninja turtles) from our room. Breakfast was good.Great discovery in what seemed the middle of nowhere. maybe needs more icemakers
This place is worth the stop! With that said, there were a few glitches that would have been nice had they been fixed. When we came back from dinner, the water had gone out in the hotel. This is not the fault of the of the hotel just something that happens. Front desk staff was very nice about it and the water was back on within an hour. However, the audio to the movie went out 2 times during the movie. This is why people go to the movie Manor Hotel. I'm sure it was a minor glitch but let's get that fixed folks!
The hotel was clean and offers a neat experience of watching a movie from your room. Sangita, who helped us with breakfast and traveling directions, was extremely nice and helpful. :) The kids really enjoyed the stay.
From the outside, it doesn't look all that wonderful (except the giant movie screens, of course!), but the rooms were really great! I don't know if all the rooms have it, but I loved the entry of room 225 - a raised, carved-out space for all our luggage. If you have 2 beds in your room, I don't think there are rooms where you can easily watch the movie from the beds. However, Room 225 has a straight-shot view of a screen. The kids layed on the bed sideways to watch, and the adults moved the chairs to get a good view as well. (I would request a room with the best available view of the screen you want to watch when you call in your reservation.) The playground and the popcorn were both huge hits with the kids! The breakfast was great, with many options. Word of caution: I'm not sure how, but we somehow ended up with tiny burrs all over our floor. If you walk around the grounds, you may want to check your shoes before going back into your room - stepping in those things with bare feet is no fun!
We were hesitant to stay at a motel advertised as "Themed" by Best Western. However, we loved it. One of the cleanest hotels ever visited in 50 years of traveling by car. Updated rooms, great breakfast area and friendly hosts. A wonderful story of the man who build his dream. And surprise....a first run movie viewed from our room through one of the biggest windows imagined. This place is a motel and a drive-in movie theatre combined. We have experienced very bad motels and great luxury hotels and this is our first "themed" motel. We would go there again just to re-experience the fun, history and very good breakfast.
To our surprise you get to see a drive-in movie in your room sound and all. Even popcorn. The hotel was nice the staff helpful food was good. Would stay here again. But remember it is a little hotel. Went down town for food the Mexican restaurant which was a hole in the wall, but the food was very good. So if you stay here it is a very small town.
Whenever we are in the area we always stay at the BW Movie Manor in Monte Vista. Where else can you lay in your hotel room and watch a drive in movie. It is an older hotel, but it is very clean and has a wonderful breakfast. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
This place is a great relaxation point if you are "Griswalding" it through southern Colorado. We stayed here on our way between Mesa Verde NP and Teh Great Sand Dunes NP. It's a Best Western, so you should already know what you are going to get. What I have liked about Best Westerns is that they don't pretend to be more than they are. We rented two adjoining rooms for a night. Both were double queens. Sorry, no King adjoining a double queen or another king. All rooms face two different screens on which two different first-run movies play. I think they usually start at 9:00 PM. We could watch either from our room but some rooms are more favorably angled for scrren one and some for screen two. Of note, only screen one has sound piped into the room. The control is on the wall and is great. Screen two gets sound by either driving into the drive-in in your car, (as a guest it is free entry to either screen) or, apparently, if you have a computer, you can stream from the local FM station, I think 88.1 We watched screen one and ordered pizza from Pizza Hut. Sorry, it is the only pizza joint in town! Apparently there is a Chinese place that will deliver. The movies playing in June, 2016 when we were there were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Warcraft. Finding Dory was going to play the next night. Standard motel food full breakfast is included. Rooms were spacious. and comfortable. Outside entry doors to the rooms. Wifi is included and is pretty good.
This place is so unique. We were greeted by the owners, treated like family and got to watch a great family movie from our room. The breakfast was exceptional with farm fresh eggs, sausage, toast and many other tasty items. A great value for your travel dollar. We will be back, and bring our friends. Perfect for families with kids. The drive-in theatre is so retro, like going back in time.
It was really fun to stay in the hotel and watch the drive in movie from our room. Sound quality of movie was good and we could see the screen very well. Clean rooms and nice, helpful staff. The breakfast was really great and had lots of food options.
Coming from Great Sand Dune NP we had a break in Monte Vista. In general a good motel, helpful staff, we had a clean and quiet room. Free breakfast was offered in a spacious room. We did not watch the drive in movie too much...
The Hotel is updated, the staff is friendly, and it's a great value for the money. The price of the rooms are reasonable and you get two different drive-in movie screens to watch current movies on. If you are in the San Luis Valley stay here instead of staying in Alamosa I bet you will have a much better stay.
The room was excellent. However, what really stood out was the staff. Due to their honesty, due diligence, and professional attitude they saved our vacation. They found my fathers wallet that had fallen out of his pocket. This had all our financial resources. This saved our vacation!!! I will definitely recommend this hotel again and if we are back this way there is no question we will know where to stay!
This hotel exceeded our expectations. The views were beautiful, the staff was friendly and it was exceptionally quiet. We didn't hear any of the traffic outside coming into the drive-in theater. We also didn't hear any foot traffic or doors closing. Amazing! Highly recommend for a restful night's sleep.
My boyfriend and I are always in search of a unique motel. A friend of his turned us on to this one. Super fun to watch a "drive in movie" lying on the bed in the motel room. You just open the curtains, flip a switch on the wall for the movies sound and you're all set! Room was small but nice, clean, and had everything we needed--particularly the mini fridge and microwave. Location was nice--out in the middle of nowhere with a lot of grass on the property and a view of the mountains when you walked outside to sit at the picnic tables.
This has been our second time coming here and we love this motel that makes you feel like you traveled back in time. Our kids love watching the drive in movie from our room and the service at the motel is super friendly. It has a wonderful location to explore the region and the mountain views were very pretty. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection of cereals, pastries, oatmeal, Belgian waffles, fruits, breads etc
First, the room was immaculate. I mean, spic and span. We were there on a road trip from Denver, and had only heard of the Movie Manor. Stayed in room 208 - one of the prime rooms for being able to view the movie from bed. The speaker is in the room, and the sound is incredible. The bed was really comfortable! Breakfast was what you'd expect - waffles, fruit, pastry, cereal, etc. So here's the thing, the movie was "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Now, we didn't pick this place based on what was showing, but if you're going to watch the movie, I'd stick with a known venue. Also, the concession stand was a little lacking - really helpful, but not full-scale. Overall, if you're looking for a quick overnight for the family, with the fun and kitsch of a drive-in movie in your room, this is the place.
This has got to be one of the best experiences I have had at a best western. I typically stay in Comfort Inn's, Holiday Inn's, or A Loft/Element hotels, but the quirkiness of The Movie Manor had me driving 3 hours from home to just experience the place. The rooms were clean, the staff was super friendly. Sangita was an absolutely amazing hostess and very helpful with recommending a place to eat. One of my favorite things I saw here was the wall paper and the décor in general. The movie theme is just so friggen fun! Arnold Schwarzenegger Exercise Room? How is that not a winner! I stayed in room 213 (Richard Gere) and the view to the drive in theater was perfect. I laid back in my queen bed, turned up the sound and enjoyed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a way you can only experience here. I can't believe that anyone would want to change the décor, the atmosphere, or just the overall feel of the place. Breakfast was much more than I expected for a free hot breakfast at a best western. Coffee was actually good and I there was plenty to choose from. I have recommended this place to everyone since I have been back home. It's little places that are tucked away that make road trips worth the drive vs dealing with airport security and the headaches of screaming babies on flights.
For years, we have wanted to stay here but didn't have the opportunity until this weekend. Our upstairs pet-friendly, spotless, spacious room was great. We loved it! It was named Bing Crosby. It had 2 queen beds which were very comfortable. Watching a drive-in movie from our room was so unique. Husband went to the concession stand and even brought us back popcorn to enjoy while we were watching the movie. The breakfast buffet had a something of everything - waffles, cereals, juices, bread for toast, muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage and more. Looking forward to our next stay there! spotless and quiet, my mattress was comfy, and the bed and bath linens seemed to be brand new. I heard no noises from the highway or from neighbors. The breakfast options were fresh and plentiful.
Very clean and quiet room. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of food choices and seating for breakfast. Manager Mike was very accommodating. We highly recommend this one of a kind hotel. Guests can watch the drive in movie from their hotel window and turn the volume on in their room. Way cool.
Wished we could have seen the movie more clearly. Windows are scratched or water-stained. Would have liked an upstairs room that we had before, which made for a better movie viewing. Otherwise a nice room.
Nice clean motel and the bed was very comfortable...Being able to watch a Drive In movie was a great addition...Had to sit in chair to see movie (would have rather watched from the comfortable bed) but still was a great experience...When I left I asked the friendly staff which rooms where the best to view the screen from your bed and they stated rooms 207 & 208 so I will remember this when we come back to view the Sand-Hill cranes!! Good Time!!
My pet-friendly room was spotless and quiet, my mattress was comfy, and the bed and bath linens seemed to be brand new. I heard no noises from the highway or from neighbors. The breakfast options were fresh and plentiful. Registration staff upon check in and check out were all very friendly and helpful. I wish more places operated like this one!
This is a special place, not very often can you lay in bed and look out a big picture window and enjoy a drive-in movie. Oh you can also do it old school and drive into the lot. This motel has been there a long time so the design in older but that's where it stops. Our room was VERY clean and the accommodations were very nice and modern. Front desk people were friendly and great on recommendations to eat in town. I would highly recommend staying here. A tip, avoid a room on the curve if you want a better view of the movie screens, there are two, showing different movies. For all of us who grew up with drive-ins, this was a blast from the past. We're planning on bringing the kids and grandchildren back for some summer fun! PS there's even a playground
Clean rooms. Wonderful lobby and breakfast area. Friendly and helpful staff. I watched The Jungle Book from my room because it was snowing outside, but I know I had the option of going to the drive-in free with my room key; a great concept.
Quiet and convenient to the area. This is a unique Best Western. There is a built in drive theater and from all rooms you can watch the drive in movie. There is a switch that turns on the speaker so you can enjoy the show or leave it off and watch the TV. It is your choice. Each room is named after a famous actor or actress. It is charming.
I was very excited to see the movie from our room. The staff was super pleasant, the room was nice and clean. Everything was nice BUT, don't try to watch the movie it is so so far away it is almost impossible to watch from the room. The speaker is loud enough, although not in stereo, and at times was garbled. Since the screen is so far away, and this particular movie was very dark it was impossible to read the captions and subtitles on the screen. Otherwise its a great room and very comfortable bed! We did not eat breakfast so can not comment on that.
It's always nice to walk into a hotel lobby and have the desk staff greet you pleasantly. At the Movie Manor, not only is the greeting warm and friendly, so is the entire service experience. Sangita and Mike are two of the nicest people ever. When I realized I forgot my phone charger, Mike loaned me one of his. The internet was down when I got there because of a community-wide service interruption, and Sangita promised to call me as soon as it was restored. I've stayed with friends who didn't treat me as well as they did. The motel itself is old, but in impeccable shape. The lobby is inviting, with fresh cookies and plenty of coffee and water. The breakfast room looks out over an open space and the mountains, and is a perfect place to start the day with a hot breakfast. My room was recently updated, spotlessly clean, and comfortable. It was a little small -- for one person it was fine, for two people it would be cozy, for any more, it would be crowded. Of course, the view from the window is of the movie screen at the drive-in, and when I stayed they were screening Batman v Superman. You flip a switch in the room to get the sound, which comes from a speaker in the ceiling. Just like being at the movies. Even without the movie experience, however, this is a great place to stay. It's little far from town so you have to drive for dinner or the grocery store (the room has a fridge and microwave), but it's quiet and pleasant. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again next time I'm in that part of the state.
I stay here a lot and sleep so very well EVERY single time! The pillow top mattresses will put you out and the rooms are not just clean and comfortable but they are QUITE. This is why you pay for a hotel room .... Right?
Location is great! Fishing, hunting & hiking near by. Very well kept, large clean & comfy rooms. In spring & summer months u could watch movies from your room, drive-in is located right out your room window. You can see & hear movies in your room. Many amenities close by. Great breakfast! The owner's are very nice.
We come to this Best Western every few years. It never seems to show any wear. The room was perfect. We needed a handicap room and asked for a walk-in shower. Perfect with hand rails at the right location. Very clean and no issues. Perfect. The customer service has been great. In years past there were problems. They have added a breakfast room and have a continental breakfast that match the best I've had from Hamden Inn. And the view while you have your breakfast is a vista of mountains and solitude. If only it wasn't a 5 hr. drive we would come more often. Can I think of a motel I'd rather stay at? Nope
This is a unique and very cool property that incorporates a drive in theatre with an old school, very well-kept roadside motel. The room was fairly small but very adequate for the two of us; actually "cozy" is a better description. It was clean and the queen bed was extremely comfortable. The girl who checked us in was excellent and she had a great demeanor about her. When our room keys didn't work and I had to return to the front desk, she joked that it was part of their "get to know you" program. Really great way to handle what could have been an annoyance! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the free breakfast was also very good, with fresh-cooked scrambled eggs and bacon. I definitely recommend this little gem of a motel and hope to have the opportunity to visit again.
I did not plan to stay here, but a snow storm came in and I decided to wait to cross the pass. I accidentally found one of the greatest hotel experiences I have had to date! The staff both night and day went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed, (Including scraping the snow off my car when I checked out the next morning!) I have already planned to return with my granddaughters this summer to make a day of Sand boarding at the Dunes and staying at the Movie manor for the movies and the hospitality!
Watching a just released movie on the big screen with the whole family tucked into bed? Yes please!!! The property itself is well cared for and clean. And the staff was so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The accommodations aren't fancy but perfectly comfortable. If you are going for the movie, be sure you check to confirm one is playing as they are seasonal. Also, the restaurant adjacent to to property is seasonal as well. Oh, and since the movies play at a drive inn open to the public, there's a concession stand. Popcorn and a movie in my hotel room. Love it!
Have stayed at The Movie Manor twice this year. Very cool place with the dual screen drive in theatre next door and speakers in the rooms. Sangita and her husband (have to admit I've not actually met him but Sangita is awesome :) ... ) are wonderful hosts who take very good care of their guests. Highly recommend The Movie Manor!
This is a unique hotel with a drive in movie screen view-able from the room and movie oriented decor.. The rooms are large, comfortable and well furnished. This is a great place to stop if visiting the San Luis Valley or en route across southern Colorado. Movie is a bonus!
We loved our stay at this unique spot! We were in the San Luis Valley for a quick family Spring Break getaway. We had lots of fun adventures (Sandhill Crane viewing, frozen Zapata Falls, Gators Reptile Park, and the Sand Dunes), but we weren't expecting that the place we stayed would be such a delightful adventure as well. We really enjoyed this unique motel, being able to watch a movie out our room window! The staff were incredibly friendly and kind. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast was great. We look forward to coming back!
This hotel has a novel concept. Their theme is movies and the rooms have that decor, and they are associated with a drive in movie and you can watch the movie and listen in your room. My complaint with drive in movies was the sound and they had good quality.
We joined a group of nine people to view the Sandhill Cranes. The reservations were made through the group and we were so pleasantly surprised to find the motel with spacious, clean, comfortable rooms and a drive in movie to watch from our room! Mike and Sangita were welcoming and very helpful. We enjoyed our room, the abundant breakfast and the movies!
I rated this motel based on the location of Monte Vista. The room was clean and comfortable, room service was very good, and the Breakfast Buffet got us off to a good start. We were traveling with a small dog and there was good walking/exercise area behind the motel. This motel is an excellent concept with a drive-in theater and piped-in sound, so the movie can be watched from the comfort of your room. We had a 3-day stay during the Sand Hill Crane Festival. This is our second visit...beautiful weather this year. The staff was cordial and accomodating...we will stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay at the Movie Manor during the Sandhill Crane Festival. We were traveling with our dog, Griffon, and they had a special annex for pet owners, which was nice. The staff was attentive and personal and the complimentary breakfast was more than adequate with eggs, bacon, waffles, bagels and rolls. We will stay here again when we are in the area.
I would stay at this hotel again. My husband and I were there when it was a busy time to see the Sand Hill Cranes. TripAdvisor could not get a room in the actual hotel part but put us in the annex rooms a little further from the hotel. The room was nice and clean but next time I would request a room at the actual hotel because they have a movie drive inn that you can watch from your room. Our room was perfect for this trip. :)
Michael and Sanjita are an exemplary management couple. They went out of their way to help our group of photographers in so many little ways. They were very friendly and outgoing, you really felt like you were staying at their home. Their love for the hotel is seen throughout the establishment from simple things like fruit infused ice water available in the lobby, fresh baked cookies, and upgraded details in the rooms and breakfast room. We have stayed here several times and I feel like I made two new friends with Michael and Sanjita.
I just enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Monte Vista seeing and photographing the Sandhill cranes but part of that was staying at this hotel. Just about 15 minute drive to the refuge so convenient but where else can you watch a drive in movie right from your room. Speakers are installed in each room to control your sound!! The rooms are spotless and comfortably furnished with water and snack provided. Mike is extremely accommodating, he even provided a wine cork so I could enjoy wine I had purchased locally. Thanks for a great stay. Anyone who stays here won't regret it. Oh and a wonderful breakfast buffet including waffles included!!!
We had a great experience here. The rooms were neat and clean. That's a BIG plus for us. Inside and out this hotel was very well maintained. The Movie theme in each room is a cute twist. We plan to see the area in the summer as well. Many local attractions.
This has got to be by far the Best experience we've had while traveling...and we travel a lot! When we arrived at 11pm we were greeted by the owners who are very passionate about hospitality! Our room was heated already when we arrived and it was already 9 degrees outside. The room was immaculate and up to date. The restroom was extremely clean no mold or mildew and the shower curtains were clean! Everyday when we left for the day we always returned to a clean and fresh room! There is plenty of breakfast options and kept stocked so there wasn't any running out and the food was great! None of the food tasted like rubber or sponge. It was delish! If you go in the summer there is a drive in movie apart of it and your room looks out to the screen and can watch the movie inside your room while laying on the bed. It's awesome! This location is about 30 min away from ski locations. The owners are amazing and it's locally owned..you'll more than likely be greeted by one of them and I Love that! Pets are welcomed! Hands down best place!
Our family decided last minute to take a ski vacation. We wanted to stay somewhere affordable and within driving distance to Wolf Creek, Co. We booked our rooms online for 4 nights at a very affordable rate. We arrived in the middle of the night Monday and were greeted pleasantly. The rooms were comfy and clean. Every morning there was a hot breakfast, bagels, cereal, juice and coffee. The service was exceptional!! They remember guest's names and go out of their way to be sure that your stay is pleasant. This small town of Monte Vista is a great place to visit, beautiful views and close to a variety of national parks. When you go be sure to stay at the Best Western Movie Manor to experience a cozy and relaxing vacation!
Checked in around 5pm. Really friendly and welcoming at check in. Room was clean and updated. Very happy the heat was on as it was 7 degrees outside. During the summer you can watch movies at the drive in next door from your room. They even have a speaker in the room so you can listen to it. Not in the winter unfortunately. Great hotel & experience. Only issue we had was it was Sunday. Our choices in town were Chinese or Dairy Queen. We picked DQ, which was good. Recommend.
We had to be in Monte Vista for a family funeral. We needed to rent multiple rooms. Mike the manager went above and beyond to take care of our family. He offered us the use of the breakfast area to meet with the family and share memories with family from out of town. They made coffee for us and provided some treats as well. In our time of sadness, it was wonderful to be taken care of by the staff. All of the rooms were clean and very comfortable. We would recommend this motel to anyone needing to stay in the San Luis valley. We would like to return at a later date to enjoy the movie theatre experience of this motel.
We checked in and the receptionist (who happened to be the wife/owner) invited us to a Christmas dinner...turkey and all the trimmings. We did not realize that this was the employee Christmas dinner. Once we discovered this we were made to feel like part of the family and had a wonderful time. Am I glad that we went the food was great (amazing curry salmon) and great company. The owner, Mike, sat with us and told us his life story and how he ended up in Monte Vista. He and his wife were very friendly needless to say we had a wonderful evening. On to the motel and its amenities.. very nice rooms, beds have a pillow-top mattress, very nice thick towels in the bathroom and most important was the cleanliness. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and warm. The only reason I gave it 4/5 was no hot water in the morning for my shower (it was warm but not hot). If am traveling that way again I will stay here and if you are traveling that way (Hwy 160) you will have a restful night. We were there during the winter and the drive-in does not show movies. I would love to go there and watch a movie from my room.
Beds are comfortable and rooms are quite. Stay here you will be back and it is a real value. never have had any problems staying here in 2 years, best value and comfort within 150 miles! During the summer I highly recommend a reservation, oh and enjoy the free drive in movies while you are here!
Great service we stayed in an amazing room with great views and good heating with wifi and a fitness center. Didn't get to see the movie but the pitching green gave us something to do while we stayed. Breakfast was good but not a wide variety of food to chose from. The Motel is far enough to be away from the businesses of town but close enough to to be able to go eat out. Overall great service!
We where very impressed with our stay their. We stayed their for four nights in October. We always had very clean room everyday. The breakfast was good, but they needed to change their breakfast menu every morning instead having the same every morning. We went to the bakery their in town and had their fresh pastries "fantastic" Could not watch the movies in the theater because they stopped showing because of lacking costumers at the time we where staying their. That is understandable. They did call me a week before we arrived to let me know about not showing movies. You will be very pleased staying their. We will stay their again. Everybody working their was very nice.
This is the best hotel to stay in Monte Vista. The hotel is at a drive in theater and that is pretty neat, the artwork is all based on traditional Hollywood Films. Good place to stay, clean, friendly.
My husband and I spent a couple of weeks traveling across the country. This hotel offered the best service and value of any of the places we stayed. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet, clean, comfortable room and a good value. The friendly service put it over the top.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are very nice, bed is comfortable, breakfast was good and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Overall I would have to say this is in my top 5 of hotels I've ever stayed in!
The staff was very friendly and professional. The room was very enjoyable. The surrounding view was marvelous to say the least. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends. Truly a delightful and cozy stay.
Just spent one fantastic night at this charming, not 08/15, Best Western. Everything was clean, nice and quiet. Good hot breakfast with cereals, eggs, sausage, waffles, etc. etc. There is also a drive-in movie adjacent to the hotel, but it was closed for the season. The owners, Mike & Sandita, made our stay an unforgettable one. They do their utmost to make you feel comfy.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. We only booked it because we wanted to see a drive in movie from our beds. I didn't see anything when booking that said the drive in was closed for the season so we were very disappointed. Not in the room or the quality, just that we didn't know we wouldn't be seeing a movie.
If you are on US Highway 160 in Southern Colorado you cannot go wrong staying with the Movie Manor Motel. The rooms are quiet, clean and exceptionally comfortable. AND in the summer you can watch a drive in movie from the comfort of your bed. They accommodate pets without blinking.
Stayed here as it was on our way as we head west on our photo journey. Friendly staff, comfortable room, continental breakfast was available for us as we prepared for the next day's adventures. One aspect of this motel is the ability to watch movies at drive-in, which is located just outside and can be viewed when opening up the curtains I would stay here again
We love little weekend trips through southern Colorado, especially this time of the year. This was our second stay at BW Movie Manor in Monte Vista. Although both the drive-in theater and the restaurant were closed for the season, the spectacular mountain views that we had from our room and from the breakfast room with floor to ceiling windows were better than any movie. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pet friendly rooms are in a separate building with a very large grassy area for your convenience. We found a lovely little place for dinner in Monte Vista--The Sunflower Cafe with very good simply prepared food and a friendly staff. Our breakfast at the motel was enjoyable. Our room was comfortable and very clean, as was the bed & pillows. We will certainly stay again.
Good stop off the beaten path. Was lucky enough to speak to the owners, who really take pride in ownership, emphasizing customer satisfaction. A nice room that faces the screen of the Drive In next door. There are speakers wired in your room, so you can sit on the edge of your bed, eat some popcorn and see a current release. After being on the road for almost a week, just staying home, relaxing in a comfortable room and watching a movie was just what the family needed. Of course, we visited the concession stand before the flick, we had microwave popcorn packed but why use that when you have a theatre right there. Continental breakfast was good, not just heat up some already cooked eggs, tasty home cooking. Spoke to another couple at breakfast who say they always stop here, even though it's out of the way for them. Cannot recommend them enough!
Although I thought the room was a little cluttered I really enjoyed the movie themed room. The room was clean and our stay was quiet. Movie Manor is a little out of town so to dine we had to drive into town. The breakfast was ok with the usual fair.
The rooms are very outdated. The only good thing is the bed was comfortable. The parking lot was being resurfaced and we were given a room where we had to carry our luggage a long way until we pleaded for a different room.
