"Room was "grim""

2
13/09/2018

Staff were friendly and efficient Rooms are tired and old, were kind of depressing - they could really do with a brightening up It was cheap but the nearby hotel chancellor was the same price and far better value

"Convenient and comfortable "

06/09/2018

Not being huge travellers and not having much time, we needed something central and convenient. Fabulous price per night including lovely buffet breakfast, very close to town and most sight seeing activists we are attending, lovely view. Rooms clean and daily service very attentive. Would stay again!

"Handy to everything"

02/09/2018

A great place to stay particularly if you're attending a theatrical production (as we did) at either the Earls Arts Centre or Princess Theatre. A hop, step and jump across the road. Check in was a breeze as was checking out. The room was small and perhaps a little tired but was comfortable enough for what we wanted and still included a king size bed. All the usual amenities such as tea/coffee making facilities and a well stocked mini bar. The big TV was up to date with a variety of channels and functions. Great value to as we had a top deal. A good place to make your Launceston place

"Value for money (through Groupon)"

Spent one night here after flying down from Brisbane & arriving at 8:15pm. Staff are friendly & accommodating & our room was clean, tidy & pleasant with a very comfortable bed. Buffet breakfast was simple, but delicious consisting of hot & cold selections. I would recommend this hotel for affordability, cleanliness & helpful staff

"Good value"

25/08/2018

Lovely hotel, great buffet breakfast. Only down fall would be the rooms aren't very sound proof, and poorly lit Strange that you need to pay for parking? Would definitely stay again, but only if they were to have a special deal

"Perfect for Business People "

25/08/2018

I travel a lot interstate for business my company chose this hotel. Usually it only for one or 2 nights on this occasion it was one night only. Check in was quick and easy, room overall was good and clean. This hotel is a bit tired but still great. Breakfast was lovey. On the downside room service was ordered late at 9.30pm as I had just finished work, it took ages to come, I was told only one person was working and they were doing it all, the cooking and delivery. Other than that everything else was perfect including the staff. Will stay here again.

"Wow"

Rooms were large and well-kept. It was clean and quiet. Laundry services worked well, elevators a bit slow. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Bar and dining served their purpose. Location is perfect for getting around Launceston.

"A Decent Hotel"

4
14/08/2018

Overall a decent hotel, decor and furniture a bit out dated but is clean and simple. Location wise is good, situated in the middle of the town, close to everything. Stayed during winter time and seem not many guests, hotel is quiet and look empty. There is a western restaurant nearby call The Black Cow which is worth to go, superb nice steak!

"Good Hotel, fantastic location"

4
11/08/2018

I stayed at this Hotel for 4 Nights. I find it a very good Hotel in the middle of Launceston. The room and bath room are very good. However, this Hotel has a fantastic Restaurant. The prize for food and drinks is very reasonable. Tip: Have a porterhouse steak for $26.00. Comes with ships and salad. Probably the best 26 Dollar steak I had in my life.

"Don't let the name put you off"

09/08/2018

The Best Western Hotel in Launceston is a long way away from the old Best Western motels that doted the Australian regional centres. This is a lovely place to stay in the heart of Launceston. While the decor and finishes are older and slightly tired the beds are clean & comfortable, the rooms a reasonable size, there is a table for eating and a desk for work. Not sure if wifi is generally free for all guests but it was a stable and reasonably fast connection. I didn't use any of the facilities but room service was quick to deliver. Food options were standard both in the restaurant and in room dining but a 5 minute walk in any direction offers you many other choices. Loved the quick check out... no need to queue up in the morning with everyone else checking out. Pick up the invoice under the door and was able to just walk out to my car. Loved that they have thought about the busy traveller.

"Launceston Best Western"

08/08/2018

Took my daughter away for her birthday .. was our first trip to Tasmania and stayed in Launceston. From the moment we stepped into the Best Western Hotel foyer we were treated like special guests. Staff were always friendly, professional and accommodating to any requests we had. Nothing was too hard and always with a smile and warm greeting. Location is less than 2 minute walk to main shopping mall, and there are lots of dining and shopping choices all within walking distance. Tourist attractions also in walking distance - City Park, historic homes, Boag's brewery. Would definitely recommend Best Western Launceston be considered if you plan to visit the city.

"Very clean and tidy, lovely staff A+"

Stayed here on the weekend. Staff were lovely, room was very clean and tidy, bed was super comfortable. Room nice and warm for cold Tassie. Parking was easy, restaurant food was nice and served quickly. Free wifi easy to use. Check in/out was a breeze and price was very reasonable. Would recommend. The hotel is centrally located in Launceston. Thanks for a nice stay. I had a great sleep.

"Weekend away "

04/08/2018

We stayed here on a Groupon voucher which was great value for what you got. Hotel is centrally located Plenty of parking available & affordable Rooms were generous size Enjoyed the old tram car in the bar Did fine it was rather loud at night, could here people coming and going up & down the hallway so not the best nights sleep. Would return for the price, it was perfect for our needs

"But noisy"

28/07/2018

The room faced the public car park, it was quite noisy most of the night into the early hours of the morning. Bit disappointed that they charged for parking. Better luck next time. The receptionist was very nice.

"Shopping weekend"

4
22/07/2018

We stayed at the Best Western for our shopping weekend and we loved it as it is centrally located to the shopping area, the outdoor parking was good and the room was really comfy. The buffet breakfast was nice too and the only negative from our stay was the unfriendliness of one of the breakfast personnel, however, will look at staying again in the future.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear sparkles5155, Thank you for this review of your stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. "Good solid hotel"

20/07/2018

Stayed here for a couple of nights on a work trip to Launceston and the Best Western was a good hotel - comfortable rooms, quite modern but the bathroom was a little dated (still functional just a little old). Breakfast at the hotel was good as well, decently priced and had a good spread. Would def stay again!

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear petejaus, Thank you for this review of the Best Western Plus Launceston. I'm glad you enjoyed the breakfast buffet- a great start to the day when you are away from home! I trust you had a safe journey. Regards, Leon Wood General Manager Best Western Plus Launceston

"Short Stay"

An old building that has been well maintained. Stayed in an exec room on top floor with views across the city. Free room upgrade for anniversary. Staff could not be more accommodating. Would definitely stay again.

Great stay right in the middle of CBD of Launceston, great facility for businesses and great rooms extremely comfortable two great dining rooms and bar, walkout the door straight in the heart of all the action well it's Launceston just do before 6pm another wise it's a great place to stay and the staff couldn't be any friendlier or helpful 4 stars in my book

"Good location Noisy room "

3
16/07/2018

My husband and I stayed here for two nights whilst visiting Launceston. This hotel was in a great location with only a 5 minute walk to the bars and restaurants. Unfortunately we did not sleep very well in this hotel as our room was really loud from the noise that came from within the hotel it's self. It wasn't that people were partying or anything, it was more that we heard a lot of banging noises and people moving around at night. Other than that it was ok.

"Great place to stay"

5
16/07/2018

Staff were great and helpful, the room was comfortable and clean had breakfast lunch and dinner there and enjoyed what I are, the wifi was great didn't have any troubles with that. Will return to stay there again in the future I'm sure.

"Central, Clean, Good Service "

4
09/07/2018

Centrally located. Paid parking available. Check in & check out smooth. Excellent customer service from all staff. Stayed two nights. On walking into the reception area there was a distinctive services club smell however our room was clean, the linen was clean, the beds comfortable, & everything worked. The room was well heated however the bathroom (including the floor) was freezing. There is an issue with the bathroom not being ventilated, even with the window completely open, at the conclusion of taking a shower the room was full of steam & all surfaces (including anything sitting on them) were wet. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel as it easy to walk a few minutes to interesting cafes. There is a guest laundry provided with the use of paid washing machines & clothes dryers. Overall, a good stay. Would stay again.

"Good location "

3
22/06/2018

We came straight from the airport mid evening, in the dark. It's easy to find and in walking distance to restaurants on George Street. Front desk check-in service is quick and friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable, if not in need of a fresh coat of paint. Car parking is at the rear of the building and is open air and an additional $6 per day

"Great Place To Stay"

5
14/06/2018

Stayed last night, can not fault the place. Check in was great a big thank you to Mathew many thanks. Allocated a room on the 6th floor room 618 facing car park great position nice and quiet. Room are basic, but have nice comfy beds, walk in shower and large tv. This is my 3rd stay here worth a go. Central location. Pay parking $6 per day. Great staff. Check out was smooth. Breakfast was first class.

"Good apart from reception and billing issues"

3
14/06/2018

This is a basic hotel which is cheap and cheerful. Cheap rates and good location near CBD and Monkey Park. Trambar restaurant had very good food at very reasonable prices. Quiet location, cheap parking off the street ($6/day) which is a quiet one way road. The room was tiny, but functional. Wouldn't want to stay longer than 1-2 nights in it though. Would have given more stars apart from issues with billing (essentially charged the full room rate as pre-authorisation, then again at checkout!) and unhelpful reception staff member (Tiarna) who was quite rude, unhelpful and dismissive and tried to blame my bank for the issue. Disappointing end result as overall the experience had been quite reasonable up until this point

"Not the best but for location "

4
13/06/2018

Stayed at Room 605. Room is spacious and clean. Housekeeping is doing a great job keeping the room clean everyday. The hotel is centrally located and lined with shops, cafes and restaurants. It would be better if hotel provides bedroom slippers, disposable toothbrush and complimentary drinking water.

"Needs some work."

2
02/06/2018

We thought the hotel was in a good location and the staff are very friendly. We had a good size room with a nice television, small round table and 2 chairs. They also have a nice bar with a happy hour. The negative: Our large bed was very saggy and uncomfortable and needs replacing, the door to our room gets stuck on the floor and a bit of a solid push is necessary, the bathroom door is hard to shut and squeaks when it is opened or shut and it's loud enough to wake the other person if he/she is lucky enough to be asleep. There are too many noises early in the morning with linen cupboards being slammed and trolleys going up the hallways. There was no plug in the bathroom. The food at the bar was terrible.

"Excellent hotel n service"

5
25/05/2018

Started 2 nights. Excellent hotel for the price in CBD. Close to all restaurants and bars. Great breakfast spread in the morning for $20. Compared to most Hotels in Hobart, this was a steal. Worth it. Will stay here again definitely.

"Convenient choice in central Launceston"

4
24/05/2018

As with Best Western hotels elsewhere, this branch in Launceston offers basic accommodation at affordable prices. Don't go here expecting frills and facilities. But for the price and location, I think it is a great value. Our twin room was clean, functional, and most importantly the beds were comfortable. If you're touring Tasmania, chances are you would be driving a car, and finding a parking space for overnight in central Launceston isn't that easy. So I think it's reasonable that the hotel charges an extra $6 for 24-hour parking. They have ample space, and I never had difficulty finding an empty spot. From the hotel, it's a short walk to Launceston CBD, which has a pedestrian area lined with shops and cafes. A walk in another direction will bring you to a small but pretty park, where locals do their morning stroll. And a few minutes' drive takes you to Cataract Gorge, the town's prime natural attraction. In summary, this hotel is a very good base to savor Launceston.

"Such a nice place!!"

21/05/2018

We loved our stay here. Was a very clean comfortable place to stay. The best part was how comfortable the bed was, we wanted to take it home with us!! The place was very central to everything. Being able to walk to the CBD easily was great. And was just around the corner from the Princess Theatre.

21/05/2018

We booked a King Room with Spa, which is one of the refurbished rooms. Large room on the top floor and was very clean. Only thing was a light in the bathroom(shower) was blown and one above the bed was flickerin, also the tap to the spa was a little dodgy move it to the left ever so slightly and it goes from hot to freezing. Also no sink in the kitchenette but we don't travel much so we don't know if this is common. The hotel is in a great location and we had dinner at the Tram Bar down stairs, which was average quality meals. The bed was the best thing we have slept on, for us it was perfect. After this visit we will definitely be looking at staying at other Best Western hotels.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear Whitney C, Thank you for this review of your stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. Our beds are indeed very comfortable as they are fitted with King Coil mattress toppers which are brilliant to sleep on. "Average stay at the Best Western"

3
19/05/2018

We stayed as the Best Western in Launceston for one night during our trip to Tasmania. The hotel is located in the town center only a few steps away from the main shopping area. For us also convenient was the proximity to the local Europcar branch. The location of the hotel is probably its main selling point. Our room was located on the second floor. The room itself has probably seen better days. Carpets, interior and bathroom felt a tired. Overall, I think the hotel requires a bit of a refurbishment. Sleep quality and cleanliness were good; however.

"Very unimpressed - Tram Bar"

1
18/05/2018

Group of 7 friends tried to dine at the Tram Bar. Called Tuesday for a Friday dinner, the staff member said there's no need to book unless there's 15 people. Presented to the Tram Bar only to find the place full and 2 tables with reserved signs. Woman at bar stated no tables were available and I said well that's a shame considering I asked to book a table. The woman stated they don't take bookings (yet there were two tables reserved). When I mentioned this the woman stated those tables were for a tour booking...so they do take bookings. We left very unimpressed. Hurriedly attempted to organise another restaurant to dine at (at dinner time on a Friday night!). Dinner Belle in the Quadrant Mall were only too happy to accommodate us and they had great food. The Tram Bar must be the only place in Australia that doesn't take bookings. If this is what the service is like I'd hate to think of what the food is like. We won't be back.

"Good Location & Restaurant"

4
04/05/2018

As a regular guest at this hotel it's hard to pass up on the good location. Shops, restaurants and entertainment all within walking distance. Staff are professional and helpful. Overnight parking is an additional $6 and can be arranged from the front desk. The hotel offers two restaurants - Tram Bar and Snappers Restaurant. Happy hour in the Tram Bar is always enjoyable. Admittedly an older hotel with aesthetic challenges however great location and service.

"Comfortable and great location"

5
30/04/2018

We loved our stay at the best western, the rooms were nice and clean and the beds were very comfy. We did have to pay for parking which was $6 per night which we were happy with. All rooms are easily accessible with the lifts close to the car park. We also enjoyed our buffet breakfast here.

"Adequate for city stay"

3
28/04/2018

Located very close to the main street with plenty of eat places very close by. We upgraded to a king bed which put us on the top floor and consequently a nice view. (The lower floors would not have a view.)You do need to pay for parking - $6 a day, which is at the back of the building. Very comfy bed, friendly staff and a bar and restaurant.

"Great Location "

4
26/04/2018

Very much enjoyed my stay here. Renovated rooms, friendly staff and close to all of Launceston's CBD and entertainment. Definitely recommended and rates were more than reasonable. Didn't try the restaurant but that looked good too.

"A good central place to stay in Launceston"

4
23/04/2018

My wife and I had a quick weekend away at this hotel, it is very central and the front desk staff very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. We eat both nights there once in the bar and once in the restaurant - both meals were very good. I would recommend this hotel as a good average in Launceston.

"Tassie Road Trip "

4
17/04/2018

This motel is a great central spot to town attractions, shops and cafes/ restaurants. Very reasonably priced, comfortable and clean. You are charged a reasonable fee for parking. Our door entry cards needed re activating, (as did our travelling companions)- apparently they should not be located near mobile phones.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear M7799RCdeborahc, Thank you for this review of the Best Western Plus Launceston. You are correct that the magnetic strips on the room access keys can be affected by close proximity to a cellphone; I trust out Front Office staff were helpful in rectifying this for you. We hope you will choose to stay again next time you are in Tasmania. Regards, Leon Wood Regional General Manager Best Western Australia

"Clean but a bit tired"

3
13/04/2018

This is a basic hotel in a fairly convenient part of Launceston. The room had two beds a king and a single however the bedside lights were strange. One on the side of the single and one on the other side of the king which meant the second person in the king has no light to read. Just move the light from the single bed to between the beds. The iron was filthy and was replaced on request. However as there was no tap in the laundry the iron in the laundry could could not be filled. I was impressed however to receive a call from the manager apologising, excellent service.

"Work Stop Over"

4
12/04/2018

Pleasant service on arrival and easy check in. Car park was Full so front desk looked after hire car. Clean room with large bed. Compact bathroom that is starting to be dated, but did the job. Great Food at the Tram Stop for Dinner. Woke up fresh and ready for the next day

"Great Location "

3
11/04/2018

This hotel is walking distance to shops and restaurants. It is in a great location. The rooms are very clean but a bit dated. Parking is six dollars a day and there were plenty of spaces available. The laundry was good and three dollars a load for washers and dryers. Best Western Plus is priced well. I would stay here again.

"Ok but lacklustre"

3
11/04/2018

Having to pay for parking was a little gotcha that wasn't clearly mentioned at the time of booking - places like this should provide parking as a matter of course, not expect people to pay for it on arrival. The room we booked was tired, had a bit of a sweat stink and in dire need of a refurb. The safe worked but it was one of the old ones that didn't give you a warning / confirmation - and I needed help to reset the PIN. I called but the manager on duty who had worked the night shift for many years said it will need to wait until morning. No one phoned back or call in the next morning. After I enquired again the next day I received a knock on the door and it was reset, so service wasn't altogether responsive. Check-out time looked quite busy and stressful from what I recall.

"Not a 4.5* hotel "

4
07/04/2018

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as we were attending a wedding in Launceston. The hotel is well located, clean and has friendly staff. The rooms and bathrooms are in need of a refurbishment. I would still recommend this hotel to others.

"Good with deal"

3
04/04/2018

I stayed here after getting a Groupon deal. The bathroom is a bit dated and there is the usual overpriced minibar taking up essential room in the fridge. No smile from reception when checking in and no free parking, it was $6 but had in/out priviledges. There was also no shower cap and more surprisingly a hair dryer. I had a buffet breakfast included in the deal which was nothing special and was just what was expected, cereal and hot food and drinks.

"Great location, breakfast and bar"

4
02/04/2018

Stayed here a few nights and it's in the best location for everything you could possibly want - shops, cafes, pubs, beautiful walks. The happy hour that runs for two hours is great value and so is the full breakfast.

" Recommended"

02/04/2018

We got a good deal on a clean, comfortable and spacious room and the mattress was the best I've ever come across. The location is good and the staff pleasant. I'd go back just for that wonderful bed and a great night's sleep.

"Perfect location in 'Lonnie'"

4
01/04/2018

The hotel could not be better positioned, literally in town but back a street so a little quieter. We could not get a park on the first night as the theatre was on, but had no problems the following nights. The room was adequate however the bed was a king and very comfortable. Don't expect big spaces but our room had a huge tv with netflix. We would happily stay again especially since we secured the room on a great special. It is close to everything. Don't miss the farmers markets!

"COMFORTABLE STAY"

4
26/03/2018

Nice clean room, exceptionally comfortable bed. Great night sleep. Only issue with this Hotel is car parking especially as Hotel was busy . Very limited on site parking & no close on street parking available.

"Good hotel"

2
26/03/2018

This hotel is set in a great location. It is both comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was good and the king size bed very comfortable. The parking was priced well and convenient. Unfortunately from 11:30 pm in the morning there was a large amount of noise within the rooms nearby. This noise included yelling and slamming of doors. This went on till 12:30pm. From 12:30pm to 1:30am in the morning the TV in a near by room was put to 100%. This did not get resolved by the hotel till 2am. This is not something I would expect from any 3 to 4 star accommodation and should have been attended too a lot earlier by staff. Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel in a Friday/ Saturday night due to noise.

"Lovely place to stay"

18/03/2018

Great place to stay with a very nice restaurant. Room very clean and comfortable beds. Off street parking and very friendly staff. Meals were very nice and reasonably priced and a very well stocked bar.

"Great place to stay, really central."

Clean and comfortable place to stay. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Restaurant and bar both nice to drink and eat in. Staff nice and friendly. Our room faced the entrance to the hotel and having the option to open the windows is great, but noise from the street made us close the windows, No fault of the Hotel though. Overall a great place to stay.

Underpriced in my opinion but not complaining. Great service from all the staff, clean, well sized and appointed up to date rooms, very well stocked mini bar (incredibly rare these days), good breakfast and fantastic CBD location minutes from the mall. Was a great stay.

Stayed 3 nights on 6th. Floor Deluxe room. Comfortable. Well appointed. Well servived. Well positioned close to CBD, shops etc. Would stay here again. Only issue that is a problem is the lack of secure parking.

"Nice Hotel, Great Location"

26/02/2018

We booked an executive room for 3 nights. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Furniture in the room was modern and bathroom nice and well maintained. The hotel is very centrally located just walk out the door and you are in town. You have to pay for parking there but not too expensive at $6 per day. Only negative we found was the lack of soundproofing of the rooms both internally and externally. We could hear noise from the room next door and traffic and car park noise. We were surprised as we thought an hotel of this standard would have looked into noise levels. Meal in Tramway Bar was very good.

Friendly reception staff, easy check-in. Comfortable stay, a little dated but clean and tidy. We had a corner room which was a great space - a bedroom the size of normal suite with large window, 2 arm chairs and small table plus another room same size with 2 big windows large dining table, arm chair and sofa bed. TV in both rooms. The Tram Bar was a great little bar and restaurant nice fresh food and friendly staff. We ate there two out of three nights stay. Good central location.

I have stayed in Launceston a few times recently, however this was the first time at Best Western Plus. Going forward I will be staying at this motel from now on. All amenities we good, clean and available. Room was spacious and clean. The only down side to the room was the noise that came in from outside. It would help if the Windows were double glazed. Apart from that EVERYTHING else was very good. The team at the motel were great, they made you feel welcomed and everything was no trouble. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

We were offered an extra room when our booking of family room for four adults and one child was actually cannot be accommodated. As this is confusion caused by the booking website, Best Western generously offered us one extra double room without extra charge. We feel very satisfied.

"Good city location, customer service needs help!!"

3
10/02/2018

Good location in the city (difficult to get to without GPS as it is "back a lane") with good parking. Nice Tram Bar, but dinner for a large group was slow and disorganised! Had a Huntsman crawl out of our A/C on the 6th floor when we turned it on!! When asking if the room could be sprayed the front desk response was "well, we can call the maintenance and see what they have, or look at changing rooms (we were already fully unpacked and didn't want to)....if it will make you happy! A/C also making a loud knocking noise "outside our room" and maintenance didn't appear for the full night!! Stay would have been nice, as rooms are good, but customer service spoiled it for us!

"Great Easy Stay!"

"Very disappointed "

2
04/02/2018

Nice enough hotel and comfortable bed...but that's it! I was so disappointed with the state of the bathroom and general cleanliness of the room. My bathroom seemed to have been modified for disabled, however, it's difficult for able body person to sit on a toilet when your feet barely touch the floor. So I took a closer look and the state of the bathroom, quite frankly left me shocked. There was what appeared to be faeces on the side of the toilet, the washbasin taps were filthy and the carpet had certainly not bee vacuumed! The filth on the taps and tiles wiped off with little effort so imagine how clean it could be if it was scrubbed or just reasonably cleaned. I generally don't have to clean the bathroom of the hotel/motel before using. Also there is a $6 charge on top of room for car parking ??

The staff here was so kind. After the airlines had lost my mom's luggage, they helped us to call the airline and held the luggage when it arrived. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We also had a refrigerator to hold all of our berries and wine.

Nobody likes being away between Christmas and New Year for work, but this was made all the more pleasurable by staying at BWL. From the moment I arrived I noticed that the staff were friendly and approachable. Staff smiled, and were more than happy to assist with any queries. The food options were good, I visited the "Tram" restaurant, had a buffet breakfast, and also had room service. Overall I would happily both recommend and visit myself again in the future.

17/01/2018

Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom could do with an upgrade. Bed was very comfortable. Great location, walking distance to most attractions, beautiful foods and wines. Was surprised that extra had to be paid for parking daily in an outside carpark when you already pay for the accommodation.

"Good place to stay"

17/01/2018

It was a good room overall. Neat and tidy. Plenty of features. One very minor quibble was the bedside table had something sticky on it, but the receptionist said that would be looked into. I will stay at Best Western again if I need to.

"Good solid hotel"

16/01/2018

The hotel is centrally located and offered all the basics. The room was clean, comfortable and the shower was good. The included breakfast was good. There was nothing outstanding, but more importantly, nothing to complain about.

16/01/2018

Great location right in city centre. $6 parking per day. Bed comfortable and room clean but rooms very rundown and tired. Really needs an upgrade. Basic accommodation. I'm not too fussy so it was ok but if you are at all picky look elsewhere to avoid disappointment.

Had such a great experience staying at this hotel! Excellent customer service from everyone we met but I would like to mention Tiarna and Scott from front office and two girls working in the restaurant on the morning of the 5th of January. (Couldn't see your names) Genuine care and help. Good amenities and excellent location. Nothing was too much to ask. Order room service twice and had breakfast once, nice food, served in a timely manner. Thanks for everything, you made our time in Launceston more enjoyable! Would recommend this hotel and stay there again without hesitation. Keep up the good work! ??

Wheather in the Launceston area for business or leisure the Best Western Launceston is my first preference. Conveniently located only a short drive from Launceston Airport and in the heart of the CBD. Hotel staff are very freindly and helpful. The Best Western is a nice hotel close to the city, rooms were very nice and well appointed and since our last stay all have been air conditioned. The carpets on the floor we stayed in were worn and frayed and detract from what is a nice hotel.

Great stay except you can hear a lot from the rooms next door, didn't like we had to pay $7 for parking and wasn't told about it until the next day, very comfortable bed nice and close to the city, would recommend to family and friends:)

"Located in the heart of the city"

Quick and informative check in. Friendly and helpful staff, Great central location near restaurants and was reasonable. Hotel was clean but appeared older, and a bit tired. We enjoyed our stay and would return when in town.

"Pleasant stay"

11/12/2017

We stayed at the best western plus for three nights after we couldn't find anywhere else to stay that wasn't booked out or exorbitantly priced. The room was pleasant, clean, spacious and tidy. To be honest we couldn't fault the room. The bed was comfy, not too firm or soft. The employees were friendly and helpful. This place is located in the centre of Launceston and everything was in walking distance. This is a great priced hotel, nothing to complain about!

"great food poor house keeping"

3
11/12/2017

The hotel location is central to CBD, the tram bar and restaurant food are excellent. The main restaurant did nt open every night it was listed too which is disappointing when the food is this good. The rooms are dated but real issue is poor house keeping that lets the hotel and brand down.

"Good one for a short stop"

09/12/2017

Centrally located.Ideal hotel for a quick stopover.Well maintained hotel.Ordered b'fast for room delivery.Nothing great about food there.Staff are really friendly & helpful. The only thing is drive way to the entrance of the hotel. The lane leading to the hotel can be a little lonely during dark hours.

"Price reasonable"

07/12/2017

Location difficult to find at night as it is hidden from the main road. Other things is good. Plenty of parking space and staff was friendly. Room was good big and spaces with air conditioner and TV. Wifi speed need to increase as it tend to be slow at night.

"Very friendly staff"

4
06/12/2017

We had 15 of us starting a bicycle trip from Launceston to Hobart via Cradle Mountain. The hotel was kind enough to let us use their meeting room to store and reassemble our bikes as we had to pack them in boxes to take international flights. The housekeeping team is brilliant. It was a raining day when we started, they were running around and helping to find us shower caps (to cover the cycling helmets) and plastic bags to keep our luggage from getting wet. This is probably one of the few hotels in Launcestion that offers two beds in a room so that us guys didn't have to share a bed under one blanket. Breakfast was good and staff again are very efficient.

"Last Minute Decision"

04/12/2017

Very clean, comfortable and accommodating place to stay. Ideal location in the middle of the city and close to sporting facilities. We rang late on Friday afternoon/evening for Saturday night accommodation and they were able to fit us (Adults x 2, children x 2). Highly recommended.

Great hotel in a great location. Would also recommend the Tram Bar for informal dinner. Very friendly staff. On site car park is very convienent and a discounted rate for in-house guests. Walking distance to some great attractions the monkeys in City Park are amazing.

"Comfortable but needs an update"

3
01/12/2017

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean, the staff were very lovely. helped me with everything i needed and where more than happy to answer all my questions. the only negative was it is desperate for an update, particularly the shower. im 5.3, 52kg and there was no way i would have been able to fit comfortably in the shower as it was placed over a tiny bath.

"Comfortable accommodation"

3
30/11/2017

I haven't stayed in many Best western properties but I would rate this as pretty average compared to other hotel chains. The room was small and bathroom could do with improving. Over all the place was comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful.

"Should have been better"

2
30/11/2017

On Sunday evening I had dinner in the "Tramway" Bar. The room was uncomfortably warm and there did not seem to be any air conditioning operating. The meeting room (off the Tramwy Bar) the next day was also very warm and stuffy. For dinner on Sunday night I had penne chicken pasta with pesto. The food, I am certain, had been microwaved and the sauce was very watery. A simple dish to make well from scratch but apparently not so at Best Western Plus Launceston.

"3 night stay in Launceston"

30/11/2017

Just a bit disappointed that the bathroom hasnt changed since we were there in the 80's. Overall the room was clean & well laid out. Close to lots of restaurants and shops & local attractions. I would recommend it to my friends

"Good location"

22/11/2017

Found the room and shower room cramped. This could be greatly improved by removing the large chest of drawers (who needs that for a couple of nighrs' stay?), moving the desk under the television which would then leave a nice space for the two chairs and small table. As it is, spaced is unnecessarily pinched and cramped. Breakfast is 'average'. Would be nice if there were free range eggs and like other chains perhaps quorn vegetarian sausages available cooked to order. Staff also need to have their hair pulled back rather than be allowed to hang over the food. Decent coffee would be good too, why can't real coffee beans be used instead of the awful stuff provided. Location and parking were good.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear Jimmy5457, Thank you for taking the time to write this review of your stay with us, I appreciate your advice on room layout and will take this on board. I'm disappointed you didn't enjoy your coffee, our coffee machine does use fresh coffee beans and infant grinds them immediately before making the coffee. We've never had a request for vegetarian sausages; perhaps we can look in to this option. I trust you enjoyed your time in Launceston Regards, Leon Wood Regional General Manager Best Western Australia

"Excellent Location"

20/11/2017

Stayed at the hotel with my elderly mother for a shopping trip. The location was very close to the city and the parking was good value at $6.00 per day. We had a family room which was of a good size and clean and this room was very quiet. The staff were very helpful, but sometimes a little hard to find at the reception desk, maybe the management should think about more than one person as they seem to have to perform many roles. The room service was great and the meals wonderful.

The room was clean and tidy. The location is right in the middle of the city. Parking was available and only $6 a night. Access for unloading luggage and getting to the room is very good. They have a trolley. Would return to stay here again.

"Conveniently located in central Launceston"

I recently took a group of 17 to the Launceston area staying six nights. We chose Best Western Plus for its convenient location. The hotel is used by many tour groups and is reasonably priced. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful. Rooms are large and clean. Breakfast had plenty of choices. We also booked two dinners in the dining room in advance. The choices from the group menu were delicious. Our first dinner on the Tuesday was excellent with the staff making one of our members having a birthday feel special and the entire group was seated at a long table. The only negative was our second dinner on the Saturday night. On checking that a table had been set up for our group of 17 (including another birthday) we found that we had been allocated a number of small tables and were reluctantly give two larger tables after remonstrating with the restaurant manager despite the dinner having been booked months in advance and our meal preferences being given to staff the day before. So they were well aware of the group size. The manager insisted that we needed to let them know ahead of time if the group wanted to sit together and she couldn't have such a large table as she had other bookings. However, whilst we were in the restaurant the only others were two tables of two and one of about six. No such problems on our previous night! Would have thought that of course the group would have wanted to sit together especially as one of the group was having a birthday. Sorry but the rude restaurant manager spoilt what up to that point had been a perfect stay.

We had a quick overnight stay in Launceston with our grandson and chose a family type room. The room had a queen bed and a single bed with plenty of room for the three of us. The room and bathroom were both very clean and the reception staff helpful. The parking on site was convenient.

"Good accommodation in Launceston"

12/11/2017

We have been guests at the Best Western Launceston for three nights as I write. This business has been through many name changes over the years that we have visited Launceston and some have been good and some not so great. The Best Western Hotel is well located in the city centre and is close to shopping, entertainment and some good food options. The cost of accommodation is very reasonable and the rooms are clean and spacious. There are things that could be improved such as a little paint here and there but overall it is a good place to stay and the staff are delightful. Good option if you are coming to Launceston.

I am currently staying at this hotel for a week with a group visiting local historic houses and gardens. The hotel is very conveniently located to shops and parks. The room is a great size and is cleaned and serviced daily to a high standard. The tram bar is fabulous and happy hour from 4.30 to 6.30 each night has VERY reasonable prices. Meals in both restaurants are varied, tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfasts are very good with beautiful mushrooms and exceptional baked beans! I would highly recommend this hotel

Our tour group stayed here whilst on our tour of the Launceston area. The hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of town on a side-street. The hotel has a great bar and restaurant with very reasonably priced food and drinks. Breakfast was included in our booking and was an extensive buffet selection. The staff have all been excellent. I would recommend this hotel if visiting Launceston.

Think I liked most was that it was quite. Situated in a lane, there was no traffic noice or people yelling in the street. Room was warm and comfortable clean, and well presented. For the price it was well above average. Parking good at $6.00 a night. Room service well priced. Staff very friendly and happy to help. Short walk to cbd. My 90 year old mum was able to walk it. Look forward to staying again nect year. Highly recommend if you are going to see something at Theater North as its rigth next door

This was the last stop on a small group tour with Premier Travel Tasmania this was my second visit to Tasmania after 25 years away. I booked Best Western Plus through Wotif. I also had been in the Travel Industry for 30 years and worked for Southern Pacific Hotels (Travelodge, Park royal etc.) On arrival check- in ok in staff were pleasant, no help with bags though. Room 205 was on 2nd floor. The room was small, (motel style) it had a view of a car park. Carpet was stained and needed a deep clean or replacement. It had a small table and two small chairs in one corner near the curtains. The beds were really hard and very uncomfortable but it was only one night, room outdated. Our curtains would not close properly and were torn. The room was very average, showing its age it needs a full refurbishment, must spend money on rooms. Bathroom poor, I am slightly disabled, shower very slippery hard to get into, grip handles poor. Also very badly cleaned. Shampoo and conditioner with cheap packet squares of soap were very cheap and poor quality. We had room service and this was excellent as you could order off main menu, mild coconut butter chicken, naan bread, steamed basmati, raiti which was delicious. My friend had split loaf garlic bread, creamy garlic penne pasta w/ pumpkin, pesto, spinach & toasted cashews again delicious. This was a redeeming point. A good chef Buffet breakfast next morning was ok although again restaurant dark needs a full refurbishment also. There's not much choice of places to stay in Launceston and maybe they need some new 4 to 5 star hotels. I was expecting a lot better in this hotel. As a Best Western Plus, I imagined it would be better than a regular Best Western. I would rate this as a 3 ½ star at best. Best Western lift you game.

This is the second time I have stayed here in a week and each time the staff have been super friendly and professional. The rooms are gorgeous with large, comfortable beds, beautiful linens including thick, fluffy towels. The rooms are generous in size and have everything you need including an ironing board and iron. The hotel is located just a 2 minute walk from the shopping mall and restaurants. I would stay here any time.

"Far from new"

3
23/10/2017

Booked this hotel after reading reviews of 'new' hotel. Room stunk of cooking oil on arrival and had to put aircon on to rid room of smell Bed comfy but room dated with an OLD bathroom with shower curtain and wall aircon. Good location and room service meal was fine. Cleary only part of the hotel is refurbished so very disappointed. No power point near desk for computer. Have to get on hands and knees to plug into one on the floor. Group of bikies staying and morning revving of engines out the front of hotel not pleasant.

We recently had the Australian Lace Guild conference for a week at this hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful, we only had to ask and they did the best they could. As I was local I did not stay in the rooms but we had one for our office and it was a great room. The food was nice and generous helpings. The conference rooms could have been a bit brighter being that we were all lacemakers but as we will back again next year, the staff has promised to make them brighter now they know our needs. I really can not fault them.

19/09/2017

This hotel is in close proximity to the city centre and within easy walking distance of many attractions. As part of a tour group my wife and I were pre-checked in so on our arrival access to our room was very quick. The room was quite spacious and equipped with an efficient heat pump. It was clean and tidy. It was also quiet. The bed was comfortable and made up with crisp clean linen. The bathroom was adequate in size and provided with quality towels of good thickness. The shower was over the bath so, notwithstanding the provision of a sturdy handrail, older or incapacitated guests would have difficulty in using the shower. It is difficult for hotels to continuously cope with the wear and tear of guests who are a bit robust in the handling of their suitcases. I make this comment as there was substantial paint chipping around the door frame that looked unsightly and detracted from the general appearance of the room. This was added to by the appearance of the hallway carpets where wear could be seen immediately outside the lifts. Another downside was the location of the in room safe. This was at floor level in the bottom of a wardrobe so it was necessary to contort the body to a difficult angle or lay on the floor to gain access to the safe. In addition poor lighting at floor level would make it difficult for people with deteriorating eyesight to enter their codes. Breakfast was served buffet style. There was a wide ranging selection of food that was also plentiful. Other meals were not tested.

23/08/2017

Room was adequate for the two of us and the Best Western is conveniently located. We were able to walk everywhere for our four day stay. Pillows left a bit to be desired - think someone had forgotten to put feathers in ours - no support at all. Room was clean and had all basic amenities. Windows in our room did not appear to be sealed properly and the wind if you sat at your in room table was felt easily - it also added to the room being noisy than perhaps it should be be from outside influences. Buffet breakfast was very nice as was the meals we had in our room and in the Tram bar. Staff were helpful.

Central accommodation close to the theatre and shopping. The rooms are tired and in need of an upgrade. The beds are comfortable and the linen is clean and luxurious. Breakfast is adequate. Quite well positioned with easy access. Very clean and quite well maintained, however very much showing its age. Fittings like shower are more 90s than anything close to current day. Restaurant (separate review) appears even more dated. Staff were very attentive and did an excellent job.

"Great Service and Location"

3
08/08/2017

This was our first accommodation whilst visiting Tasmania. We booked it merely for the location and nothing else. Didn't expect too much from a Best Western. The staff was friendly and allowed us to check in early which was fantastic because we needed to offload some baggage and get changed. That's about as good as it got. The door to our room had a smear of blood over it. Quite obvious, but quickly rectified by the staff when brought to their attention. The carpet was stained and looked horrible. It's well overdue for a deep clean or replacement. The bed was really hard and the room was a tad outdated. Also overdue for a makeover. Parking at the back would be tricky when it's a full house. Seems very limited. We were lucky to get a spot because most spaces were reserved for special guests. (Good way to make us feel like second rate citizens). It was merely by chance someone moved out of one. They also charge $6 a day. As stated earlier, it was for the location, and as expected it didn't deliver on anything else. On a side note, the tram bar has decent food.

Dear pacey306, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. I'm glad you were impressed by our location, friendly staff, complimentary early check in and bar meals. Our car park is tricky at the moment, as a neighbouring brick wall came down in a storm and is being re-built which limits the number of spaces we can access. I am assured this work will be finished very shortly. Regards, Leon Wood Regional General Manager Best Western Australia

"Not worth 3 star hotel"

The hotel is at a very good location. But the room heater is not working in a winter time is a big no no in winter season. Restaurant inside the hotel is a pub style catering and will not suit family dinning. Carpark is at the back of the hotel and you would need to pay at a discounted parking fee. Overall this hotel is very old in condition and you should not trust the website front page.

Dear 235kaml, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. I'm sorry to hear the heat pump in your room wasn't working, our front desk staff are available 24/7 if you ever require assistance with an issue like this. With regard to the Tram Bar, we have several families dining in this venue every day. The Tram itself is always popular with young & old and a children's menu caters to younger family members. Stayed here on my bday and they set up a table in the tram bar with balloons and 30th sequins without us knowing, went above and beyond with celiac Requirements and allergies for dinner and breakfast. Highly recommended!!

"A good place to stay right in the heart of Launceston"

31/07/2017

Good clean well managed accomodation in the heart of Launceston. Walking distance to the inner city attractions, restaurants, shops, cafes. Parking is extra on top of tariff, but this is becoming the norm these days and it was not excessive. Rooms satisfactory and they were what you would expect from such accomodation, Staff were friendly and helpful. Downstairs internet kiosk was the slowest i have experienced in recent times but i think the server needed to be rebooted and cleaned out. There was construction underway next door to repair a structural collapse and there was a little noise intrusion during some of the day during construction hours but as i was out and about most of the time it did not bother me, staff apologised for the inconvenience. Overall a good experience staying there and i would stay there again.

"Great value and comfort"

31/07/2017

We were in Launceston for the Tamar Valley Peace Festival and needed a quiet, centrally located hotel so that we could walk to most places. This hotel offers great service, comfortable rooms and is exceptional value at this time of the year. A very full breakfast was included in our tariff.

"Great staff"

3
31/07/2017

Can I start by saying all staff we encountered were really nice and helpful. But I was expecting a lot better in the hotel. As a Best Western Plus, I imagined it was better than a regular Best Western. We stayed here twice in our 4 day visit, in 2 different rooms. Our second room was better in that the air conditioner worked well. The hotel is very tired. The bed in 204 was really bad and I am thankful the other room we had had a better one. They seriously need to spend some money on the rooms. I even looked at switching to the Grand Chancellor around the corner as it was cheaper rate on the day of arrival, but couldn't afford to forgo what we paid. The location was easy to access, I was surprised that they charged parking, albeit $6. The kids said they had the best wifi.

29/07/2017

Just disappointing to have to pay for parking. The location was good to walk around town to go elsewhere for dinner. The breakfast was very good. The room was clean and comfortable. A bit irritating was the church bells which seemed to be going at all hours.

"My go-to hotel in Launceston"

4
27/07/2017

Best Western Launceston is where I like to stay when in Launceston (3 or 4 times per year). The room rate is reasonable, the rooms are of a good standard, the hotel facilities suit my needs, the hotel location is good.

"Holiday in Tassie"

5
27/07/2017

Our first 3 nights in Tassie were spent here after driving from Hobart The Hotel although being an older style was clean, tidy and very reasonably priced infact ... We had a Groupon voucher and 3 nights were $259 including breakfast - excellent value There was a slight mix up with our room when we arrived and that was easily fixed with an upgrade And then we had another slight problem with the room we had been upgraded to, it had a faulty door And then this was fixed straight away Don't get me wrong The hotel was not faulty towers It was just a couple of things gone wrong The management fixed that up with a couple of free drinks each at the Bar and grill restaurant We had dinner there as well and it was very nice All in all a very nice stay Thanks Best Western

"Comfortable and well located"

4
26/07/2017

Had a good stay. The hotel is well located within Launceston CBD. Hotel rooms look a little dated and tired but the bed was very comfortable and slept very well. Buffet breakfast was lovely and the pastries were very fresh. Would happily stay here again.

"Woolies"

4
26/07/2017

The only thing that I thought was strange was to pay for parking, this should be included in the complete package. The meals were a good price & of a very good standard The only other complaint was it seem to take a long time to check out.

"Ideally located"

5
26/07/2017

We stayed overnight when catching the 9 to 5 show that was on at the earl theatre. Best Weston was just across the street and perfectly located. Because we also went to the show the buffet breakfast was complimentary - bonus we didn't know about. Highly recommend staying there and afloat a short walk for shopping in the mall

"A short stay"

21/07/2017

We only spent 1 night in Launceston and found the best western to be great. The room was on the smaller size but perfect for a short stay. The staff were lovely and we really enjoyed happy hr and our meal at the tram resturant.

"My regular haunt"

5
19/07/2017

It is a comfortable and conveniently located hotel with a decent breakfast. Parking is also available with less than $10/day. The staff were very accommodating and they have soya milk. It is a two minute walk to the park and the shops. We were happy.

"Average conference facilities"

3
19/07/2017

With Best Western Launceston we had a large number of rooms as well as a small meeting in one of the conference rooms and we received poor standards of catering but paid a significant amount for. Staff were apologetic and was explained that this was a mistake and we would receive a discount however this didn't end up happening.

Stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights during the coldest time of the year. Very good location, restaurants just walking distance. Friendly staff, always smiling. Room is just right, can't complain. Bed is cozy and comfy. Daily housekeeping. Continental brekky really good. We're grateful that we stayed here

19/07/2017

Booked a last minute stay in Launceston, from arrival to departure our stay was first class. With a big shout out to Monica in the Tram Bar who went over and above to meet our requests especially going the extra mile to make us Bailey Hot Chocs that were not on the Menu!! Food was delicious also!!

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear weejen90, Thank you for the time taken in writing this review of your time at the Best Western Plus Launceston. Our Tram is definitely a great show piece; it originates from 1911 and once travelled the streets of Launceston. Check out our Facebook page for some incredible wedding photos which were taken in the Tram only a few weeks ago. Monica is brilliant and such an asset to the team, I'm glad she was so accommodating. "Great location"

4
13/07/2017

Quick and easy to find in the middle of the City and close to everything you need. The staff a very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable it is a great place to stay in the city if you are on business as the location makes it easy to go to any where in the city quickly.

"Great bed, central location"

4
12/07/2017

We stayed at Best Western Plus for one Saturday night when we visited Launceston to attend the football. Check in was easy, although the receptionist was a bit abrupt in telling me to move aside for someone who was checking out to be served first. We were told our room was ready early but when we went up to it, the door was open and the bed was stripped as it was still halfway through being cleaned. We left our bags and went out for lunch and when we returned the cleaner was just finishing it. The room was clean and a good size, the king size bed very comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The hotel is in a great location, very central and close to great restaurants and bars, and only a short walk to UTAS Stadium. This is our second stay at Best Western Plus and we will return due to its great location. We have not eaten in the hotel restaurant.

"Better options "

2
12/07/2017

Disappointing stay. Room was old and in need of updating. Paid for car parking but there weren't any car parks left and had to park out on the street. Not sure why they don't have a system of knowing how many car parks they have, to how many cars they allow access. Breakfast was bland and unexciting and not kid friendly. Staff weren't friendly and no apology when I explained the car parking situation. I recommend staying elsewhere.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write this review of your recent stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. I would like to apologise for any confusion you experienced over car parking. We are indeed without several parking spaces at the moment as a neighbouring brick wall which came down in a storm is being re-built, this should be completed very shortly. With regard to breakfast, we offer a full buffet with cereals, toast, fruit, muesli as well as hot options (eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, hash browns, mushrooms etc). I am unsure as to what you mean by a kid friendly breakfast but would love to hear any suggestions you may have Many thanks Kind Regards, Leon Wood Regional General Manager Best Western Australia

"Close to city centre"

11/07/2017

Nice hotel but needs reimbursement - very dated Tram Bar offers great happy hour but very dark and needs a really good clean. Some fabric chairs stained and dirty Bathroom too small and price you pay they should at least include a continental breakfast

"Great as always "

5
11/07/2017

This is such a convenient place to stay. Rooms are comfortable and even have a Nespresso machine with a milk frother! Staff are friendly and helpful. Parking can be tricky as part of the car park is currently closed but there is street parking overnight. Good food options within walking distance too.

"Standard"

2
04/07/2017

standard cheap hotel. bathroom floor was dirty with broken shower head that cannot be adjusted. carpet did not feel clean. generally an old hotel. our king size bed was two single mattresses put together - very uncomfortable. However, hotel staff were friendly and helpful. gave us extra information about sightseeing and directions without request. Would not recommend, but it is acceptable if you are looking for a cheap stay for 1 night.

"Overnight accommodation "

Not bad! I come to Launceston regularly with business, It's not my first opinion, got an upgrade this time, can't complain. Limited parking but very central, close to some nice restaurants. Staff is nice, I'm sure they will look after you.

03/07/2017

Room was lovely, bed extremely comfortable, reception we helpful and friendly with recommendations for coffee and breakfast. Check out at 11am was good. Centrally located so everything at your doorstep. However if you're there on a Sunday almost everything in town is closed re restaurants or cafes or even bars. Nice quiet town, definitely recommend doing the cataract gorge walk.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear CaitlinTR, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. Our beds are indeed very comfortable, they have recently been fitted with King Coil Pillow Top Mattresses which are brilliant to sleep on. You are correct that most of the CBD is closed on a Sunday. Next time you are in town on a Sunday some great options are the Cataract Gorge and Penny Royal, Seaport Precinct, City Park, QVMAG Museum and if you have a car the Evandale Markets are great. We hope you will choose to stay with Best Western again in the near future Warm Regards, Leon Wood Regional General Manager Best Western Australia

"A great stay at Best Western in Launceston"

5
03/07/2017

We recently stayed at this hotel on a weekend trip to Launceston (July 2017). It's in a great location (very close to downtown shopping precinct and restaurants (The Black Cow was an exceptional dining experience) and the reception staff were very friendly. Hotel lobby décor is a bit outdated (granted, given it is an older hotel), but the room was very clean and presentable, and the beds were very comfortable. Overall, great value for money.

Leon W, General Manager at Best Western Plus Launceston, responded to this review
Dear simonedA3209QU Thank you for the time taken in writing this review of your time at the Best Western Plus Launceston. We do enjoy a great central location within walking distance of many of Launceston's great highlights, which many of our guests appreciate. The Black Cow is an incredible restaurant; I'm glad you enjoyed your meal. "Excellent location"

5
28/06/2017

Stayed here a total of three nights and were not disappointed. Great clean rooms with comfy beds and good shower. Buffet breakfast was included and was really good. Has a great feature of an old tram car restaurant with a bar with happy hour drinks and great food. Excellent location with walking distance to city. Only downfall was having to pay for onsite parking.

"Excellent accommodation - great location and great service"

23/06/2017

I really enjoyed my four night stay here. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with beautiful views overlooking the city. The in-room dining was excellent, with prompt service and delicious meals. The hotel is centrally located and only a few minutes away from the main shopping strip, and right across the road from the Princess Theatre. I look forward to staying here again next time I'm in Launceston.

"Convenient, good value hotel close to everything"

4
23/06/2017

We enjoyed our stay here. Close to everything, easy parking included, restaurants and cafes nearby. Rooms were spacious and clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel's decor is a little outdated, but I understand they are going through floor by floor to update.

"Time Away"

5
23/06/2017

The hotel in general looked nice and was nice. I was beginning my holiday, and it was a very nice way to start. I was meeting up with a coach tour for Day 1 the next day, and I was able to enjoy a nice, and restful sleep, eat a good dinner and a great breakfast. The room was clean and the comfort of the cozy room was great. I had heard how beautiful Launceston was, so from my third floor window, I was able to see just how beautiful it was. The morning brought in a rolling fog that lasted a short time, but was very beautiful against the hills in the background. It was a gorgeous way to start a holiday.

"Very comfortable"

5
22/06/2017

Excellent location, excellent facilities and staff polite and helpful. Accommodation is centrally located, near to shopping, with parking and easy access. Bar and meals facilities were well appointed.

"Comfy Accommodation"

4
22/06/2017

Spent 2 nights during time travelling around Tassie, Best Western at Launceston was a good rate rooms were a good size with adequate room & great bed, Happy hour was a great arvo along with eating both nights at the Tram restaurant, meals were well priced & well portioned. The breakfast how ever was a standard buffet that I found to be a bit over priced, probably why there were very few people there the morning we ate!

"Don't expect to sleep"

1
22/06/2017

AFP game on so didn't get to sleep until late due to the noise. Then woken early Sunday morning being Mother's Day with blower vac cleaning leaves off footpath. Very disappointing and inconsiderate for guests

"Could do better"

3
15/06/2017

There were a few factors that spoiled my stay here but, in fairness, not all were the fault of the hotel or its staff (EG: other guests) so those won't specifically be mentioned. Good: This hotel is located on the edge of the CBD - very convenient to shops and restaurants (walking distance). Bad: My room was not cleaned properly. Sheets were unclean and bathroom bin still had rubbish in it. Good: Staff very quickly and apologetically transferred me to another room. A second compensation was also provided which I was happy with. The only other issue is that the place is in dire need of refurbishment. Rooms are spacious and comfortable but everything is worn out. Broken tiles, cracked and rotted doors etc. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure I would recommend this place as it is. I would, however, look it up in the future if they've refurbished.

"Stunning City Views "

5
15/06/2017

We booked the Spa Suite for the night but unfortunately the room got flooded the night before. I received a call from the hotel explaining this of which I understood. Well they went above and beyond upgraded to the excutive suite spa bath king size bed, and they through other things in aswell which we were grateful for. We dined in the Tram Bar which was superb and really enjoyed the banter with the staff. The only thing we can think of to improve the place is new carpet or a decent clean and upgrading the bathrooms which we know wouldnt be cheap but did not sway us either way. Highly recommend staying here.

"Never ever ever stay here!"

1
15/06/2017

Where to start.. the desk service is pretty unfriendly and non-negotiable. I paid for a 3night stay and was unable to get a refund or a reschedule for the 2 nights I was unable to stay so I asked to be "upgraded" to the executive suite from the king suit, the only difference I could see was that the bed was now 2 doubles pushed together! The spine between the 2 was deff an obstacle that would keep me awake all night. I am 6'5 and my feet hung way over the end of the beds! The burger and chips room service served me were a cold mound of grease and pre/packed Burger patty.. the breakfast spread was decent although none of the bay marries we're heated therefore all Breakfast meats and eggs were cold. My shower flooded the bathroom and hallway of my bedroom because the drain and flat floor shower are not spread properly in order to actually discipate any flow (over or otherwise). The night doorman was rude as asking me "are you rite there?" At 2 am when I went to have a ciggerette. So all in all I lost near $200 (above the price of my 1 night stay), I'm leaving with wet luggage from shower flood.. I slept pretty awful and the cleaner just let herself in, returning from breakfast to find a cleaner going to work on the floor. At 9:30.. I will leave (happily) at 11. Not a 4star apartment nor a 4star service. I'd say pushing 3* but not quite that even.

"Good stay"

15/06/2017

Good hotel close to everything the tram bar was really good well priced and good sized room had a good view the room was a good size they only downside I had I gave the reception a parcel to post and it took them 2 weeks to even place it in the mail I am still waiting for the package to arrive if you stay here just mail anything yourself

"Disappointed"

02/06/2017

Room was a good size and bed was comfortable, mini bar was not that good especially when the available food from room service of a night was terrible. Staff of a night tried to do his job but with many demands on his time he struggled to be of a high standard

We stayed for one night in April. The room was very comfortable and clean and the hotel is well located in the centre of town. I would have no hesitation staying in this hotel again. We did not use the restaurant for breakfast or dinner.

"Best Western Launceston"

17/05/2017

Just a standard hotel which needs some slight refreshing and updating internally. Parking was not included in hotel rates which was disappointing as it is one of the most expensive places to stay in Launeston. Overall not a bad hotel but at the end of the day you're just getting a room so probably better places to look to stay in Launceston for better value.

"NiceStay"

My daughter and I came to Launceston to attend a football match. Best Wester had been recommended by our travel agent and as we had used Best estern in earlier years we were happy to agree. Our experience was positive beyond our expectations from the time we checked in until discharge. The Receptionist was very friendly and informative ,and the room was very suitable. In particular I was pleased that i could open the window as I always like to sleep with a breeze coming through. By far and away the part we enjoyed most was the Happy Hour and subsequnt meal in the tram Car Restauranrt. The mood was calm ,welcoming and without needless intrusion by staff. Families with young children contributed positively to our experience , and we were able to maove form drinks to dinner in a seamless way that lead into the evening for us. Loved launceston.

"Perfect location, very friendly staff"

10/05/2017

We stayed here as a base in Launceston and the location was excellent. A short walk to the mall and plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We ate at both of the 'In House' restaurants and the meals were lovely on both occasions. The reason it didn't score a 5 was that the bathroom was a little tired...pieces of grout missing and quite mouldy in parts. The bed was very comfortable and the view quite good from the room.

"Business trip accomodation"

5
03/05/2017

I have stayed in this Best Western in Launceston several times when I have visited for business purposes and it is a very comfortable stay. The room is comfortable with all the required amenities and it is located centrally which makes it easy for me to get to all my work locations. I have mostly ordered room service when there, and I must say the food is sublime! I also ate in the tram bar which had a cosy ambience. I highly recommend this hotel for a convenient and comfortable stay in Launceston.

Enjoyed a couple of nights here. The center of downtown location was convenient and we walked to several areas and features of the city. Attractive hotel interior and exterior, good restaurant and lounge, and our rooms were good sized, well appointed and quiet.

"Great location clean & tidy"

"Disappointing."

26/04/2017

I thought the room was small and tired. It needs to be refurbished. The corridors and the common area of the hotel was also tired and in need of a refurb or makeover. The bar area was a daggy old bar from the 80's.

Myself and a few other members of a choir from Melbourne came to Launceston to sing with a local choir and raise $$ for City Mission. Some of us decided on the Best Western for its central location. We weren't disappointed! It was a short walk to almost anywhere!

"Simply the best"

A true gem of a place to stay close to everything in Launceston, walk to the main shopping precinct and restaurants. The wonderful staff from check in throughout our two night stay made our first two days on holiday so wonderful- already booked in for our return journey in 10 days, you must stay here!

"Clean, Well Located Hotel"

23/04/2017

Second time I have stayed here, this time as part of a coach tour. Room spacious and clean with everything you need. Breakfast was plentiful and all fresh. Happy hour in the bar upstairs is well worth a look and the meals there are well priced and portions very generous if you don't want to go into the city to eat. Staff are all very friendly and helpful with directions etc. Hotel is just a few minutes walk from the shopping areas and park and the theatre is pretty much opposite the hotel as well. Would return here if in the area again.

"Extremely happy"

18/04/2017

I was really impressed with this hotel and the staff that work here. The room was very clean and nice and quiet. The bathroom was extremely clean not like some in other hotels. The staff were amazing and helped us out with local attractions and places to eat. The hotels Buffett breakfast was very nice. All the food was hot and fresh along with freshly squeezed juice. The bed was very comfortable and not hard like some other hotels. In all I was very impressed for the money that we had spent and would stay here again.

"Comfortable and Well located"

18/04/2017

We stayed here during the National Band Championships. The hotel is very basic but the staff are friendly and you will not get a more central location than this. The breakfast is about $18 per person which is reasonable. I found a nice added bonus was the free Wifi and the laundry that you can use between about 8am and 9pm. Very handy. I would definitely stay here when I visit Launceston again.

"Quick stay"

3
17/04/2017

The check-in was quick and the room was adequate, though dated. We stayed in a family room with a queen and two twin size beds which was pretty cramped. The bathroom needs to be updated as the tub/shower were quite old. We stayed during the music festival which is probably why the price was so high.

"Short stay Holiday"

4
04/04/2017

The rooms were clean tidy and the bed comfortable.Bathroom was what you would expect from a quality hotel. The restaurant was good wines and beer probably 1.50 over the norm. the bar was welcoming in design and the rang of snacks inviting

"Launceston Trip."

4
29/03/2017

This hotel, like its counterpart in Hobart, is situated close to the major shopping area in Launceston within easy walking distance. Car parking can be tricky because it is located behind the hotel itself. When you book in to your room you are given a ticket which you must display on your dashboard otherwise you will pick up a $55.00 fine irrespective if you have a ticket or not, if it's not displayed your gone. The car park is small, first in, best dressed. The room was comfortable, but the church bell chiming on the hour, every hour, across the road was a pain. The "Tram Bar" service and drinks were good, the food extremely average for taste, style, and value.

"Very Small Room"

3
21/03/2017

Very Convenient location in Launceston. If you want to explore the city by foot it's not a bad location at all. Disliked- No windows open in Room- tiny bathroom- tiny room. Liked- nespresso machine-walking distance to bars, restaurants, parks etc-

"Wonderful Stay"

21/03/2017

We travelled in a group of eight, we loved the convenience to the city, the fantastic Tram Bar and staff. Rooms were great and beds very comfortable.Meals were really good. We would visit again. Our only problem was the late night revellers who chose to party opposite the entrance of the hotel, security could soon fix that.

"Value for money"

20/03/2017

We enjoyed being able to walk to all our destinations from this motel. They accommodated us by letting us leave our luggage earlier to our checkin time. I would like to see more information on attractions in the room

"Return visit"

3
28/11/2016

This was our second trip to this hotel our room request for the same room was accommodated. The front desk woman was lovely, friendly and cheerful. The other staff we encountered during our stay didn't even acknowledge our existence hellos were ignored. The quality of staff and rooms has diminished since Jan. Showering was haphazard with a shower head that was more likely to collapse than stay up. The hotel is undergoing a tv upgrade so the available channels are minimal and not enough to provide adequate options of an evening after a day of exploring. We would have loved room service but options were so limited we opted to get takeaway delivered to our door instead. Won't be returning for a third visit anytime soon.

"Great Location with Parking in the Heart of the City"

4
27/11/2016

For a business trip there wasn't anything missing, Free unlimited Wifi which worked great in my room on the 5th floor, very comfortable bed and suitable bathroom, though I never like showering in a bath. Towels refreshingly large and luxurious after travelling in Europe and only getting small towels. Desk area also more then sufficient to set up laptop and work from in front of window. Reception also well organised and helpful.

"Worth your time checking in"

22/11/2016

Second time here. In the heart of Launceston with everything close by. Parking good with docket from reception. Decor is good and rooms very clean. WIFI is fast and reliable. Reception was very pleasant and Effecient. Will be back next time in in town.

"Wotif /mystery hotel: Under construction"

1
15/11/2016

Mystery hotel /wotif hotel is the best western. Look no further. Don't bother. It's under construction at the moment. Looks as if it's about to fall apart with the cords along ceiling tops hanging out and open. Due to construction no/limited television Channels. Safety wise- the entrance from best western customer car park into the hotel is completely open. Don't need to swipe in. Anyone can come and go and staff can't see as this entrance by-passes reception desk. Dismal place. Book an airbnb or stay somewhere else! Not worth it.

"Good value basic hotel"

3
15/11/2016

The lobby and location of this hotel are a little on the seedy side - off the main street and not well lit - but the rooms themselves are clean, comfortable and well equipped and the rates are very reasonable.

"Lovely Stay"

Arrived at best western in-pouring raining greeted with warm smiles and positive support staff. Big comfortable bed warm QUITE room with fantastic water pressure. After leaving previous hotel after a few hours being welcomed with genuine smiles really made our night. Thank you.

"Close to town"

Close to town walking distance to things easy access friendly helpful staff room was clean and tidy bad thing not much parking available for this motel would recommend to any one wants a nice but cheap place to stay

"Danielle is the best!!!!"

5
13/11/2016

I checked into best western plus Launceston after a family wedding on Sunday 6th of November. Just for a relaxing few days to see some old mates. Room was lovely. Bed especially. Room service very good, delicious and very quick Unfortunately I became very ill, nothing to do with the food, and the hotel staff especially Danielle were very kind to me. Danielle went above and beyond her job to make sure I was cared for and comfortable. I can not thank her enough! I will always stay here when I return and would recommend this hotel to everyone.

"Good central location but........"

2
12/11/2016

Best Western Plus. I don't think so. Paid parking and not even a guaranteed place. Get there late and park somewhere else. Tried room service and ordered ham cheese and tomato toasted sandwich. When the sandwich arrived it was 3 mm thick and only contained ham?... It was however redeemed by a handful of corn chips thrown on top of it.....mmmmmm. Following complaint it was replaced but I visit over 100 hotels a year and it was without doubt the worst "meal " (except Dunedin) I have ever eaten in a so called 4.5 star hotel. Bed comfortable but stay well away from room service food. At midnight the theatre next door decided to load a truck parked in the street directly in front of the hotel with lighting equipment accompanied by much banging and shouting. They were finished for the night so why should they care. Admittedly this was beyond the control of the hotel but still ruined the night. At least i was there for only one night. All in all a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons.

Hotel was excellent, as we arrived after dining room had closed we were able to get something to eat, which was much appreciated, the king size bed was also a bonus, that enabled us to sleep well even after jet lag.

great location, good bed. seems to be getting a do over in decor , overall pretty good. the one downer is the TV small terrible reception. complained but was brushed off with an excuse about the wind. but if thats not important to you go for it.

09/11/2016

Very handy to central Launceston.Average rooms for $167 odd a night..Staff at front desk very good.Had full breakfast at same Hotel a few years ago -Magnificent,this time Rubbish .Went down for breakfast at 9am. (Breakfast 6-10am) .No cutlery ,hot food rubbish ,had been sitting there a WHILE. -the food not us-As we got up to go they started to re-do all the tables for the next morning .Get down early .Did complain at checkout and received a potion of money back.Grateful for that. Just one thing for $167 a night by 500 odd rooms you would think they would invest in decent bed linen -Doona had stains on it.Thank you.

"Tassie weekend"

4
08/11/2016

was clean and comfortable. They need a little more infor about the TV we found it confusing ended up turning it off. with no TV was a little boring. was to scared to push buttons in case we ended up paying for a movie we never watched. also paying for car parking when we are staying at the hotel thought that was a bit much..

"Central to the city"

08/11/2016

Enjoyable stay, beds are very comfortable, close to the shops, theatre and restaurants, always stay here when in Launceston. Book out is 11am, so nice to have that extra time on the weekend to relax, have a late breakfast before going home.

"last minute booking"

3
08/11/2016

was booked in after a cancelled flight. the kitchen stayed open for us as the flight was cancelled very late in the day. check-in was quick as they understood we were tired. they offered us phone chargers as many had not planned to stay the night. room was a little dated, shower was hot but did leak a little. overall, the hotel was good for a quick stay

"Beautiful Room"

3
08/11/2016

The room was everything we hoped for except for the tv not working or the espresso machine or the central air. We asked for help and we were told that there were directions alongside everything so we had a double check and found nothing and just spent the whole stay wrestling with the central air settings as we were a bit hot and uncomfortable. It was still a great stay thanks to the lovely spa bath and sweet house cleaning lady.

"We decided to try something new, but it didn't work."

2
03/11/2016

We always stay in a major city hotel, which is getting worse and worse. So we decided to try something new and go to the Best Western. Our thinking was that we really only need a bed, but I guess we need something more. The receptionist had attitude oozing out of every pore, and I don't mean this nicely. The room was in an awful state of disrepair, and overlooked a car park, and the general vibe of the room was completely depressing. On the plus side, the location was great. However I am starting to believe you can't get a good room in Launceston city, (walking distance to restaurants), unless you go to the waterfront which costs a bomb.

"Excellent accommodation"

4
02/11/2016

Had 2 nights in this hotel. Comfortable beds. Nice hot showers. Off-street parking. For the tech-heads there was a very reliable wi-fi service (free). We arrived on the day that there was a street festival on so were expecting a bit of a noisy night. Not to be. Didn't hear a thing. Has a couple of restaurants on site (Snappers Restaurant and the Tram Bar Lounge). Nice food at reasonable prices. Only thing I found a bit of a concern was that the shower was in a bathtub, but there was no suction mat on the bath tub floor. Bit of a slip hazard if you weren't careful. Reception staff very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

"Great Accommodation .."

5
02/11/2016

The Best Western Plus Hotel/Motel in Launceston was the best of the major accommodation places that we stayed at on our recent holiday to Tasmania..The thing that impressed me most was the friendly and helpful staff at reception.. Nothing seemed to be a problem to them..

"Not suited to a light sleeper"

3
02/11/2016

Accommodation was nice, what you need in a hotel room and nothing more. There was a lot of noise in the room from guests in other rooms though as well as noise from the halls so could do with a bit of sound proofing. Also found it strange that we had one of staff walk into our room at 9am on our last day to check the mini bar items. She knocked once and then walked in. Thankfully I had just finished getting dressed. I am unsure why she couldn't wait half an hour until we had checked out.

"Good night in Launceston"

4
01/11/2016

We had a good night in Launceston & saw a fantastic "Always Patsy Kline" but it was marred by an appalling breakfast of disinterested staff and stone cold plates and food. Would not put it down for the dog.

"Quality and Location perfect"

5
01/11/2016

Love the Best Western Plus Launceston - located close to the city centre and nearby attractions, the rooms are ideal with extra touches including a coffee machine. The staff are really helpful..thanks for letting me know about the Airport transfer bus that connect to the hotel.

"very good"

5
01/11/2016

The front office service was just brilliant we received a phone call that night to see if we were still arriving as the time was getting on as we got held up at the airport we got instructions how to get to the motel. Room services was then ordered for us as everything was closed I could not fault nothing on the service. As we were leaving the next day the receptions helped us with road maps and advised where to go. Just marvellous.

"Great stay"

01/11/2016

nice hotel with great staff at reception. I had my CPA exam in the hotel and I decided to stay a few more days ! the restaurant is probably the best in the area and waiters were really friendly ! the recommendation by the FB staff was the best and the oysters were one of the best I ever had in my life. Having been my first time in Launceston , I have had a great impression not only of the hotel but the city as well. My girlfriend also loved it. I can't remember the name of the guy at reception but he was wearing glasses, he was a true ambassador of your property, keep it up guys!

"Our Launceston Base"

5
01/11/2016

Stayed at the Best Western Plus on recommendation of Flight Centre. Found it to be ideally located so close to the centre of town & seemed to be only a short walk to everywhere. Staff were very friendly & leaving our bags there for a week while we did the Overland Track was no problem.

"Welcoming"

4
01/11/2016

After an appalling experience with Qantas where my flight had not left Launceston 12 hours after it was due to leave I was angry and exhausted. Qantas sent me to this hotel which was the only thing Qantas did right that day. I arrived at the hotel and the man on duty had the room ready, I only had to fill in a few lines on a form and I was handed the keys and he told me they were keeping the kitchen open for us (I was not the only Qantas victim). In the space of an hour myself and at least 10 other Qantas victims went from feeling furious to being thankful. The food was good, the room was comfortable and the kindness and attentiveness of the staff could not be faulted.

"Great stay"

01/11/2016

I stayed for business, the tram bar was great for a meals, and the buffet breakfast was lovely. The service at reception and in the restaurant was fantastic. I will be staying here again on future business trips.

"Decent hotel, perfect location"

3
27/10/2016

A bit dated as some reviewers mentioned. But clean and comfortable, no issues. Very decently priced. Parking available. Very friendly staff who were more than happy to advise us on what to see, how to get there, etc. Central location within walking distance of most things to see and do in Launceston. Would stay again.

"Great staff"

4
27/10/2016

Yes, it's old, it's certainly tired and it's showing it's age, but having stayed there twice in one week, the friendly and accommodating staff more than make up for all of that. The room was clean and everything worked as it was supposed too and on every occasion, the staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble or effort everyone was cheerful that made a nice start and end to the day. For the price, it's possibly above where I'd like to pay, but all said and dine, nice memories, nice sleep and BIG callout to the great people working there, a credit to the hotel.

"Neat and comfortable "

4
25/10/2016

Although a bit dated, the hotel is neat, clean and pretty comfortable. Old style motel, the beds clean and service great. Breakfast in the Snappers restaurant exceptional quality. Prices very good and hotel located smack bang in the middle of Launceston. An interesting Tram bar on the first floor and when checking in we received a pint of beer compliments of management. Do recommend

"3 night stay"

4
23/10/2016

From my initial dealings with the Reservation staff to those on the Front Desk when I checked in/out, I could not fault the level of service/friendliness displayed by all staff. Great location. The Tram Bar inside the hotel is a hidden gem - Happy Hour and seasonal dinner specials. The room had everything that one needs, including decent wifi service. The hotel though does need to make a few upgrades/updates - the carpet in the corridors are mismatched and dated; bathrooms need to be modernised. Parking is $6 per night. If I do visit Launceston again, I would most likely stay here again.

"Highly Recommended Hotel in Launceston"

5
20/10/2016

I stayed 3 nights in Best Western Plus Launceston for my partner's exam and both of us really enjoyed our stay. All staff whom we met during our stay were very friendly and kind, especially Ben, who took our booking over the phone and checked us in was great. All information and requested were passed properly so there was a taxi driver waiting for us when we checked out. The room was specious and cozy; it was very clean and the bed was just perfect for us. If we have a chance to visit the area, I will definitely stay in the hotel again.

"Great Staff - Poor finishes"

1
19/10/2016

Room finishes where terrible! Hair in the bathroom, on the carpet, in the towels, on the skirting, very disturbing. Paid car parking?? come on! Expensive rates. Beer in the tram bar not cold at time of opening, had to wait for cold beer on tap! Breakfast buffet was cold and understaffed. Never again.

"Fly in fly out long term stay"

5
19/10/2016

Being a fly in fly out guest for the last three months I have been treated like a king. The hospitality of all the staff was second to none. Being away from home is hard but all the staff have made it a pleasure. The rooms have all you can ask for and I can honestly say I've been in a fair few of them as I'm in a different room every week because I checkin Monday and checkout Friday Their beds are so comfortable that I look forward to coming back week in week out. The location is right in town with the CBD at your doorstep.Shops, restaurants and even the theatre right next door. The theatre has great shows and even got to see the Melbourne Comedy festival. The Hotel has the tram bar which has a relaxing atmosphere and even live music. The restaurant has a nice cosy atmosphere with excellent friendly Waiting staff that even match your wine with your food. Chef and kitchen staff eager to please what ever your taste buds desire. There new spring menu is to die for with fresh Tasmanian produce, tender meats and beautiful seafood. Not to mention amazing Tasmanian oysters. Wow. The best part of my stay was being fussed over and made to feel special. Working away and restaurant in every night makes you quite fussy and a bit of a critic but The Best Western Launceston gets my approval hands down.

"Had to check out and find somewhere else"

2
10/10/2016

On a recent family trip we booked a family room at this hotel through Qantas. Normally a safe place to book, I was surprised to discover after having to wait 2 hours to check in that the room smelt so bad we couldn't actually walk through the door. Offered a second room which was not really any better. Found alternative accommodation close by. Its a shame as with a little investment the hotel could be up to standard. I travel alot and this hotel has recently changed hands, with no real investment in refurbishment to date.

"Tramroom Resturant"

4
01/10/2016

Small and busy - had to order at bar but the meals were great. Moderate prices, but steak cooked to my requests and very nice Also had a kids menu for $9.95 which suited my dinner companion. The old tram was part of the dinning room and you could actually sit in it and have your meal.

Leon W, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston, responded to this review
Hi Pauline, Thank you for the review of your recent experience dining in the Tram Bar. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your meals and also our Tram, which is an authentic 1911 Tram which once travelled the streets of Launceston. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Best Western Plus Launceston again in the near future. Best Regards, Leon Wood General Manager, Tasmania

"No Complaints"

30/09/2016

The room was a good size for 2 adults and a 16 yo. Location was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was easy at the back of the hotel. We could walk into town and to Cataract Gorge.

Leon W, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston, responded to this review
Hi born2shop17, Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. We do indeed enjoy a very convenient central location, within walking distance of many of the great attractions Launceston has to offer. We look forward to seeing you again soon in Launceston. Great facilities. Loved the tramroom restaurant...very intimate. Be mindful that parking and bottled water is advertised as being included. This is still great value stay. Very friendly and helpful staff.

"Clean and comfortable"

5
26/09/2016

The place was perfect for a young family of four. Our room was clean, beds comfy and bathroom had a bath (great for the kids). Booking breakfast the night before made it cheaper and the kids ate free - always a bonus! Breakfast was tasty and good value. Good restaurants are close by, easy walking distance and the staff were very helpful in recommending places to go. All in all a good stay, we'll be sure to book again.

Leon W, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston, responded to this review
Hi Ruth, Thank you for taking the time to review the Best Western Plus Launceston. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your room and the breakfast; I'm glad the children enjoyed their complimentary meals! "Expensive & Dated"

3
24/09/2016

This motel is dated & a tired, but is centrally located in the town. It is a pity the motel does not control its own parking area for the best interests of customers - outsourcing parking management has given customers a poor outcome. Being charged a 'discounted' parking fee on top of expensive accom, & having to display parking permits on the dashboard & threats of parking fines & being towed away is just obscene. The carpets in the main passages were wornout. The TV was small. Restaurant staff were not professional & customer focused. There was months worth of dust on the carpets around the skirting boards in the room. This motel is just not worth the money - the experience was not pleasant.

Leon W, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston, responded to this review
Hi 62EW, Thank you for your time and consideration in writing this review of your stay at the Best Western Plus Launceston. Our car park is indeed outsourced and at a charge of $6 a day is very reasonably priced. Parking permits displayed on the dashboard allow us to differentiate between guest cars and those belonging to the general public. I'm glad you found our central location convenient. Launceston is a great city for exploring on foot; I trust you enjoyed your time here. Best Regards Leon Wood General Manager, Tasmania

"Excellent value for money"

23/09/2016

I was really impressed with this place. Ben at reception was very helpful and friendly. The beds were comfy, the room was spacious, good brekky and dinner. You'll like the dine-in heritage tram. Very central location. All round good value. The in-room coffee pod machine was a nice touch!

Great value for money and lovely large room. Service was great, room cleaned to a high standard every day. Bar staff were friend. Pool and gym available and short walk to Kamari beach. Great area of the island, close to lots of bars and restaurants

12/09/2016

What a great hotel. Was very impressed, booked a family unit for 4 which had a queen and 2 singles, perfect for our family getaway. Very clean and the location is perfect being right in the city a walk to the centre, restaurants and city park. Had a car park out the back which was an extra $6 but we didn't mind paying that when you are right in the city. The free wifi was excellent and worked... Kids were very impressed with that and insisted we stay here every time we visit Launceston. The only trouble we had was trying to get in with the room key, took us a bit to get the hang of that!

"Best Western Minus"

2
11/09/2016

Stayed one night and the only good thing about this place was the receptionist-Abby. She is the epitome of customer service and saved this place from being rated a one star. The entry driveway ceiling is in such poor condition, I honestly thought pieces would fall off. There is some sort of drain area across from doorway that has a hole large enough to lose a leg into. The carpets are filthy and stained, the structure itself has large chunks of 'damage' that someone has painted over very badly. The tram in the Tram Bar needs a good clean. The bathroom is about 30 years out of date and shows significant signs of wear and tear etc etc etc. Apparently this hotel is undergoing renovation but we didn't see any signs of this whatsoever. Really can't emphasise strongly enough how extraordinarily wonderful Abby the receptionist was-she made our short stay bearable, and went above and beyond to be of assistance. On a rather bizarre sidenote, we caught the shuttle bus from the airport (cost $40) and the driver had no idea where the Best Western was situated, said he'd never heard of it and asked the passengers were it was ! For $200 for one night, really not impressed at all and would not return.

"Marginal At Best"

10/09/2016

Stayed here one night, wasn't very impressed. Not in align with US best western properties. Rooms were very standard. No fitness center. Super basic hotel in general. I know options are limited in the city, but was less than impressed.

"Overnight Visit"

31/08/2016

We stayed here overnight after attending an AFL game at Aurora stadium. The location was good and a late check out at 11am was great. The espresso coffee machine in the room was an added bonus. Happy hour in the bar after the game was fun!

"Good standard as Aussies expect"

30/08/2016

All the usual room facilities including coffee/tea and jug which does not quite fit under the washbasin tap; cloths cupboard; ironing board & iron; stocked mini bar fridge; adequate TV and Free Wi-Fi. Good central location but on a side street so you may have to look out unless you come by airport shuttle to the door. Helpful staff, although some in the bar/restaurant my seem a little dismissive on detail. Some assume what you want, not what you seek (Straight Whiskey does not include ice). Rooms cleaned well every day. The Tram restaurant has a 1990 menu presented in a 2010 way. A special of fillet steak with pepper sauce, an updated Caesar (chicken) salad, hamburger with chips in a basket, etc.. All very well done and well presented but a management chosen old menu. Good breakfasts. Reception staff very helpful and most staff focus on the customer. (Except the restaurant manager, who focuses on his own way). I'd go back for value and convienance but not to impress a companion.

"Good value"

Stayed one night here with my husband. Comfortable, well equipped rooms with king bed. Free drink at Tramway bar a nice touch. Great atmosphere in bar with a tram in the middle of the room. Staff very friendly. Had buffet breakfast in the restaurant which was good. This hotel is well located and provides good value.

Conveniently located for the city and also for Aurora Stadium (the purpose of our visit). Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was functional and clean. Parking is easy and the cost can be included in the booking.

"Great hotel with fantastic staff"

25/08/2016

After a few disappointing hotels in Launceston the best western was a refreshing change. The staff at reception were friendly and immediately welcoming. The upgrade options are affordable and great value for money. The rooms are nice and modern and very comfortable. Perhaps the only criticism would be the generic remotes for the Tv that don't really give you much option. The restaurant: we had dinner in the tram bar. Very unique. How often do u see an old tram in the middle of a restaurant. To get the whole experience of course we ate in it. The food was great although it came out a little cold but the taste more than makes up for it. A little disappointed that the other restaurant was undergoing renovations would have loved to try that too. Great hotel at an affordable rate

"Great stay"

23/08/2016

Stay here whenever I'm in town. Very convenient location and parking is easy. I had a meeting in town the morning of my check in and they were only too happy to give me a car park pass early. Rooms a spacious and the wall mounted heater was brilliant - so much nicer than having an air conditioner on.

The staff are always very accomodating for, parking and breakfast inclusive, rooms are warm not new although well maintained, cleaners do a magic job when you have little ones running riot, the tram bar is nice quiet and affordably priced, snappers restaurant is always good quality, generous servings and the full hot Breakky is a must. Centrally located affordable and easy to get around. The staff are a true testament to the running of this hotel, proud not prude!

Hotel is in the middle of launceston with parking next door. $6 a day. Voucher available from reception. My room . . 413 was awful. Bed very hard and lumpy. Tv fuzzy. Could hear people talking all night and one poor lady coughing all night. Road noise was terrible. Walls are made of paper. The room was clean but there were stains on the carpet. The lady on reception was polite and efficient ? I wouldn't stay here again.

"Great hotel, location and affordable!"

Very happy with our room and our staff. Staff were very friendly and helpful - even with our 4:30am checkout! Would definitely stay here again. Initial room was incorrect however staff corrected very quickly and we were not inconvenienced at all.

Stayed here on an overnight business trip. Room was spacious, clean, had everything I needed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is centrally located . Will stay here again. It was very affordable. The tram bar is great with an old tram front and centre. I have stayed in higher priced hotels in Launceston which were not as comfortable.

Stayed here for three nights with friends - fantastic location in the middle town and easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Happy hour in the bar every night. Service was good, room was nice with comfortable king size bed and very reasonably priced.

"Very well priced"

The room are a good size and very clean and quiet modern. The Tram bar has an old Tram in it wich adds character. Buffet breakfast is ok as well. The staff are very freindy and cheerful. Overall great value for the money.

Friendly staff, room was perfect - comfy bed. Location perfect for us. 2 night stay was most enjoyable. The only downside was our meal in the Tram bar. Although tasty, it was basically cold except for the chips. However, it is noted the motel was booked out and the staff were ultra busy.

"A good stay"

30/07/2016

Stayed here for one night after watching the Hawks at aurora stadium. Pros - great location and easy walking distance to everything in launceston, easy and very friendly check in, our room was ready really early which was fantastic, super comfortable beds, decent size rooms, drinks and early dinner at Tram Bar were inexpensive and delicious, excellent nightly rates available. Cons - the walls are quite thin and there was a bit of noise from the room next door and people yelling in the street, the property needs some love and a bit of a spruce up or modernization. Looks a bit tired. Will stay again when next watching the Hawks.

The first night there we waited for over an hour and half for our dinner. There were only 5 other people in the dining room (and it was a Tuesday). Found it cheaper and nicer to eat breakfast and dinner elsewhere. Staff are friendly, especially housekeeping but overall sadly disappointed

"Not a great start"

23/07/2016

The room was quite nice and the staff were friendly. I honestly can't complain about any of that. Unfortunately I was stuck in a room with 2 single beds which I wasn't too happy about. But that isn't really the worst part. Initially they gave me a keycard for a room and sent me to that room. The keycard never worked. We went back and forth until they eventually gave up and tried another room. Went up to that room, entered, unfortunately for myself and another, I interrupted someone sleeping in that room. Turns out they gave me a key to someone elses room, someone who was sleeping. Finally got in to the room. As I said, neat, tidy, wrong sized bed but we got there. This place was disorganized to a point it ruined the slumber of another person.

Dear Adrian Z Thank you for staying at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston and writing a review Your business is very important to us and we value your feedback. I am pressed to read that the room was nice and our staff are friendly. I do apologise for the issue with the key, we have taken this very seriously and addressed this with the staff concerned and our PMS system. I find this unacceptable and have fixed this issue. I would like to thank you for letting me know. I know this doesn't fix your stay that you had but it lets me address the issue straight away. Kind Regards, Leon Wood

"THIS WAS THE LAST TIME"

22/07/2016

Firstly we were given keys to a room that was already occupied. luckily we heard a noise and did not just walk in as you usually do. went to reception and were given another room with a lame apology. Bathroom only had a shower over bath and was very dated as was the toilet with a dirty looking cistern. The room smelt very musty so we opened the window - no fly screen. Tried to put a bottle of wine in the fridge but the shelf was missing as was the bracket on the fridge door. I have stayed many time before and each time I am told we are updating the rooms - well I will NOT be back again updated room or not they have had more than 3 strikes. Also parking is $6 a night.

Dear KENandRobyn Thank you for staying at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston and writing a review Your business is very important to us and we value your feedback. I do apologise for the issue with the key, the staff member informed you of the wrong room. The key given would not have opened the door. As you mentioned we are in the process of upgrading all our 116 rooms and have completed a number of these. We have just about completed a bathroom mock-up which we are going to roll out soon. I would like to thank you for your feedback. Kind Regards, Leon Wood

We have stayed at the best western quite Afew times over the years but unfortunately I think this will be the last ... When we arrived it was pouring with rain and we couldn't park out the front as there were already lots of cars there.. Went in and checked in .. We were given a room, when we went to our room I hard sounds inside, so I knocked on the door and a lovely lady opened the door! Clearly that room was taken. Went downstairs told reception and they said oh that's right sorry you the room next to that one.. So we went back upstairs and went in our room. The first thing I noticed was there were not 3 single beds but 2 single and a double .. Which was ok. Went into the bathroom and we were told the family room had a walk in shower, not this room it had a shower over the bath! Normally wouldn't be an issue but as we had a disabled person with us this didn't suit! When we called reception they to us we had been upgraded already ( to a room we didn't want). The room it self was spacious enough. But the fridge was broken and the shelves inside the fridge were missing. The toilet in the bathroom was peeling it was so old. The shower head kept falling down. There was no air conditioning only a wall heater.. So when we arrived the room smelt stuffy and wet. Opened the stiffened window but there were no screens on the window. There is one in the bathroom but you can't close this - it's always open! So you freeze at night as the door seal around the door doesn't close properly. The restaurant and bar are good and are also in the entertainment book. Breakfast was included and the staff there are lovely and efficient. The reception area is nice and open and modern just not the rooms! Free wifi in the rooms and carpark and is quit fast! Parking is a premium - there is a carpark but it's almost always full and its $6 a day.

Leon W, Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston, responded to this review
Dear Affyblue22 Thank you for staying at BEST WESTERN PLUS Launceston and writing a review Your business is very important to us and we value your feedback. Unfortunately, all our family rooms have bath over showers and these would not have been suitable for disabled person. We do have some disabled rooms in the Hotel and I would be happy to offer you one of these rooms and if needed include a room next door FOC. The week that you arrived, the Hotel was completely full with people coming and going from the Hotel and the weather that week and lately has been horrible, so I apologise about the lack of parking at the entrance to the Hotel. I am happy to read that the restaurant staff looked after you. We do hope to see you back in Launceston and I do welcome you to come back and experience our team's professionalism. Leon Wood

"Tired rooms and disappointing breakfast buffet"

15/07/2016

We spent 3 nights at this motel and whilst the location was good it needs money spent on the rooms and the breakfast service needs attention. The food was often cold and not replenished and plates were never cleared. Parking availability was also problematic. Disappointing as Best Western Hotels are usually known for good breakfasts and quality of rooms. The beds were excellent. The internet was very slow.

"Great room."

13/07/2016

This was formerly the Mercure and maintains the quality, The Tram Bar is still there, great place to have a relaxing drink. The restaurant was very busy this night and service a bit slow. Was not impressed with the quality of the dish I had ordered, crispy skin Tasmanian salmon, it was dry, had bee sitting too long in the over I think waiting. Room was comfortable and a good sleeping bed. Location of this place is excellent for walking around the business area and some local attractions.

Second stay here this year. Not sure what the plus means. deluxe king room not overly roomy. Poor lighting for work purposes. Smallish TVs. Room service and dine in with extended hours a positive. Beds comfortable. Shower facilites clean but again not much room to move. Car parking at added cost, not secure or guaranteed.

First visit to Best Western Plus Launceston and was impressed. Close to CBD and the park, with easy access to get out of city Modern room layout. Excellent bed and clean room.Staff friendly and knew what they were doing. I was really impressed with what I got for the price paid, differently worth a thought when checking out hotels in Launcetson city

"Nice hotel shame about the neighbours."

09/07/2016

We stayed in an executive room on the 6th floor. Seemed recently renovated and was very comfortable. Great location right in town. Shame about the neighbours as even on the 6th floor somebody nearby was having a party on one night and it was "doof doof" all night until about 5.00am

"Terrible Service and Food"

03/07/2016

I had worst breakfast in a hotel for two days in a row. Food was tasteless and very cold. The coffee was also cold and no apology offered even when this was brought to attention of staff. asides its central location, it has nothing to write home about. The accomodation was not well furnished and lacked basic necessities. This was despite me staying in a suite.

"Very disappointed "

02/07/2016

Stayed here on Saturday night. Not sure why this is a BW Plus. On arrival we were told we had been upgraded, the room although fine wasn't anything we wouldn't have expected from a standard room. Sadly the windows were single glazed and we were treated to the heavy beat of music until it was almost light and although on the 5th floor could even hear voices in the street. Breakfast was perhaps the poorest I've ever had in a hotel; service being non existent, food scarce despite 2 hours of breakfast still to go, tables dirty ... Thought we may have stayed an extra night but needless to say we didn't

Staff are were absolutely helpful in every way and very friendly . Very nice feel to the room and spotlessly clean , as you arrive you automatically get the feeling that it is exactly how i have explained above, i would stay anywhere else. Very nice food at Snappers restaurant on first floor of this Best Western.

"Rocking tunes all night..."

23/06/2016

Hotel staff were lovely, one in particular on night shift who was very helpful and accommodating.. Although unfortunately, I could hear the bar music alllllll night. Sounds like a lot of fun but not when you go to a hotel to sleep... Good location and close to restaurants

"Centrally locate, well furnished, delightful staff"

5
22/06/2016

This hotel is great value for the price. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the linen and towels were clean and soft and plentiful, the toiletries were of a high quality. The room had split system air-conditioning which worked brilliantly and a well stocked mini-bar. The TV was smallish, had most of the free to air stations and some Foxtel ones as well as pay on demand movies. Unfortunately it is controlled by a proprietary hotel remote with limited functions (the lack of a "sleep" function really irritated me) The staff were all lovely. They were helpful, friendly and prompt. The hotel is in very easy walking distance to the city centre (5 minutes) and there are many restaurants and cafes close and a good old fashioned pub (Royal Oak) is just 5 minutes walk away. There are bus stops for major bus routes just 2 minutes walk away.

"Very comfortable"

Very helpful staff ,after being stranded in Launceston because of the floods they gave us a good deal with breakfast included.the room was very comfortable and the facilities were excellent .,it is also close to the city centre.

Lovely stay here. Parking and breakfast were included in the rate, but not with all so make sure to check, and the staff was wonderful. Easy waling distance to the CBD make the location ideal. Comfortable room, though the bathroom is on the small side, the rest of the room had plenty of space.

"Beautiful Launceston Best Western"

Big beautiful rooms and the most amazing beds. Staff are delightful and very helpful - nothing was too difficult to organise. The room service meals were amazing. Very clean and modern facilities. I would definitely recommend this motel and will be returning.

What a lovely place to stay all the amenities that you need, We ate in the restaurant and had a very nice meal. The bar area was great with a happy hour each night where you can sit a relax with a nice drink or have a bar meal which was also very nice. There are helpful friendly staff, lovely clean rooms great room service. And a very friendly town to stay in.

Best Western was close to CBD, shopping, restaurants and the movie theatre .With in walking distance to Aurora Stadium. When in Launceston we would definitely stay there again. The staff are very friendly, helpful and looked after our luggage in storage until we were able to pick up our car later in the afternoon.

"Central and great facilities for conferences/meeting"

09/06/2016

Location is perfect. Parking on site (fee applies), went to a conference here. Facilities are great. Food fantastic. Beds super comfy and rooms clean. There was a small fee for parking and limited spaces available.

"Great accommodation at good price!"

5
05/06/2016

We stayed here two nights. The receptionist, Paula, was terrific - friendly and welcoming. She was happy do what little things like call a taxi and store a small obox of foodstuffs we had. The room was nice and warm in a Launnie winter and the king sized bed was fabulous - great size and as soft as a cloud. The bar was great - and the bar staff knew their job. We'd happily go back and stay there again!

"Business Stay"

I have always found Best Western Plus to be a great place to stay when there on business. It is central to the city and the service team have always been excellent. The rooms are well appointed and look forward in staying there again whether it be business or pleasure. Cheers Michael

"Simple and comfortable"

27/05/2016

A king size bed that was very comfortable to fall into after a great hot shower. The tram bar has a home feel about it with a delicious & value for money menu. The Tuesday night $15 schnitzel & salad is great. The house salad was yum. Parking is easy & the central location handy to get around.

22/05/2016

Stayed in room 202 Rooms very cramped especially as we had a low mobility room. In correct room given a checkin, however staff where very accommodating to assist. Great for families or couples would not recommend if you are traveling with a companion with wheelchair or assisted walker

"Good Location"

4
20/05/2016

The Best Western Plus is a pretty typical hotel in the 3-4 star range. Its main plus for us was its central location to many of the choice restaurants and key attractions in Launceston. You'll also find Snappers Restaurant and the Tram Bar Lounge on the first floor of the hotel. Both are fine if you decide not to venture out for the evening.

"Lovely weekend"

4
20/05/2016

Fantastic location in the middle town. Close walk to shops and the famous City Park. Facilities modern and comfortable. Luscious breakfast every day set up for a weekend of adventure. Enjoyed the stay. Look forward to our next visit.

"Hotel is 3-4 stars , Service is 5 stars"

4
20/05/2016

The hotel was ok for a 3 stars , 4 stars at most hotel. Room had only a portable aircon which works more like a fan. Try not to go during summer time then you will be fine. There are restaurants within a 15 minutes walk radius. Supermarket is a good 10- 15 minutes walk away. Should save money and go out for breakfast rather than wasting it in the hotel. Need to pay extra for espresso coffee which taste like crap. I would ONLY come back to this hotel because of the wonderful service of Danni, the lovely lady at the front desk / reception. She helped us in sorting the tour out ( we made a mistake in booking an early tour 4 hours away!) and was always pleasant and ready to help. After I flew back home, I then realized I have left my crystals in the room. Danni helped me to pack and mailed it back to me without charging me a single cent! Thank you Danni for doing me this big favour and the hotel should be so proud to have you as their staff.

"Typical city hotel"

4
19/05/2016

Our coach tour finished here. Our room was clean, modern and it overlooked the car park. Good toiletries and soft towels. We had a good meal for the majority of our coach passengers so 'mass' catering was better than some places we'd eaten at before. There is a part tram in the middle of the bar which is entertaining. The hotel is very convenient for walking into Launceston, about 2 minutes.

"Comfortable stay"

4
19/05/2016

I love this place for the location. It's really handy to get around and parking is easy. The shower was a surprise - hot water was instant which was a treat in the cold weather! Staff not quite as dedicated to delivering a faultless guest experience the Hobart equivalent but were pleasant enough.

"Always a great stay"

4
17/05/2016

Great location, simple but nice rooms, If possible I always stay in this hotel. Close to Anytime Fitness Gym and town centre. The rooms are basic but have all that is required for a business trip. The Foyer is a little tired but one only passes through this area. I have not eaten in the restaurant as I always go out.

"Value for money "

4
17/05/2016

Good location, quiet, clean & tidy room, comfortable bed, friendly and helpful receptionist. Free wifi. A good choice ! The hotel receptionist suggested us to view the marching on the ANZAC Day, and we had the luck to have nice acquaintance with the Australian veterans right before the marching.

"really good."

4
15/05/2016

very central place to stay, rooms comfortable and clean, nothing special but very good. Room service was quick and food was good. Parking can sometimes be an issue, so get there early. Close to airport and express check out was very handy.

"Wonderful"

5
13/05/2016

Exceptional room with good quality appointments. Very quiet. Good food available and reception staff very helpful. Great value with the package booked Tassie Delights. Nespresso machine in room. Great location to walk to Cataract Gorge. Reception had a walking trail map to see local history. Very very pretty city to visit.

"A Comfy Bed and Roof Over your head"

3
10/05/2016

If your after a roof over your head, and sheets on your bed then this is the place for you. Basic comforts were available, but somewhat dated, which I guess can be expected. Grotty grout in the bathroom and a bit mouldy (perhaps due to having no fan) along with a shower head that a tall person received a serious leg work out trying to get my head wet, but this is me being picky. Tram Bar had a nice atmosphere to wind down after a days work, with friendly staff.

"Good location, small room next to the laundry"

3
08/05/2016

The location is perfect, to visit the city. However, we got a small room next to the laundry. We booked via Hotwire for 3 nights, so this could be the reason. The bathroom was OK, but a bit oldish. They have a deal with a 24h fitness around the corner for 10$. This was much appreciated.

"no frills, large room but basic decor & fittings, handy location for meeting"

3
02/05/2016

I booked here as it was a short walk to the meeting venue I attended, rather than staying at the venue. A few others at the meeting also stayed here despite it not being offered by the meeting organisers. Fairly tired looking exterior and not very attractive. Efficient friendly reception. Poky elevators, didn't notice if could use any stairs. Stayed on 4th floor, room opposite elevators but surprisingly not noisy. Large external windows with some view towards the gorge but blocked by city buildings, could see in the distance. Room itself plenty of space but average, non-confonting decor. Bathroom tap loose and moved with mixer but not leaking. Combined shower/bath with high wall to step over, ok if not infirm. Excellent wifi reception & speed in room, no problems and able to use multiple devices. Strange "wine in a glass" in the minibar, not game to try it - had plenty of my own wine from my cellar anyway... Had dinner there the 1st night, special chicken schnitzel, served plain with salad for $15 - what do you expect....surprisingly poor wifi reception in Tram restaurant. Breakfast variety ok but pricey ($18) for continental, didn't try the full cooked option. Not sure if I would stay again but not sure of other options in Launceston....

"Great room"

4
02/05/2016

We stayed here for two night for work and ended up in a huge room with living area and a huge bathroom. The bed was really comfortable and the rooms were clean and quiet. Parking out the back is $6 a day which is disappointing but all in all a good place to stay.

"Just a room to sleep."

4
29/04/2016

With just a mere 18 hrs in Launceston we stayed here at the best western. My partner and I were upgraded to a superior room ..... There was nothing superior at all about it except we were on the top floor. The rooms were just average with a bed, ensuite, chair, desk and mini bar. The linen and pillows were beautiful. Really close to everything and easily accessible but once again just a hotel.

"Staff make the place"

5
28/04/2016

The staff make this place. From check in to check out I was taken care of by funny and loving staff members. I only had 1 night but everyone was happy for a good chat and a laugh with me. Anything I wanted at 2am in the morning was pretty much sorted for me Good sized rooms and comfy bed close to centre of town. Will be coming back for sure.

"Trambar"

3
28/04/2016

Serving size compared to pricing is very poor. I had about $6, $8 if Im generous, of food on my plate and I paid $29! I know there are other costs but considering those also I was very disappointed. One of our party had Atlantic Salmon and I don't think the chek could have found a smaller fillet if they'd tried and then it came with this measly bit of salsa. Nothing else substantial at all. No chips, no baked potato or anything else. We eat out often and get to know serving sizes. This will not be a place we will return to any time soon.

"Football Trip"

5
24/04/2016

I can highly recommend spending a weekend in Launceston to see an AFL game. The Best Western Plus is centrally located so you can walk to the ground. They also have room service which is great when you have had a long day and want to rest. It is also close to the Princess Theatre (next door) so is perfect if you want to see a show. One tip if you have hired a car, instead of going straight into Launceston city go to Evandale and try the delicious wood fired oven treats at their bakery.

"Friendly staff, peaceful surrounds, scenic views "

4
22/04/2016

Nice place to stay with family, close to shops, restaurants, short walk to Woollies, no plastic bags for shopping, remember to take your own Brekky starts at 7 am on weekends, kids enjoyed free brekky... Room is clean and tidy, shower head was bit loose but was working ok... Overall, it was a good deal for the price paid...will visit again for sure..,

"Friendly and well presented"

5
20/04/2016

The reception staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. Went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and were only to happy to assist re information on Launceston. The room was extremely well presented. Attended the restaurant for breakfast which was good quality food which was excellent value.

"Great Location"

4
17/04/2016

A short walk to all the main city centre attractions and stores, Best Western is a great choice for anyone travelling to Launceston. Avoid in the summer months however, as there is no air conditioning offered in rooms

"Convienetnt location"

3
15/04/2016

Booking in was a breeze, staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and had a nice view. The beds were comfortable, the room was close proximity to the lift. The bathroom however was not at all clean, the shower glass was dirty, not only with old water stains, but soap scum. The floor looked like it had not been vacuumed in a while and certainly not washed, there was hair not belonging to either of us on the floor. Overall cleanliness could be improved.

"Good location"

4
15/04/2016

Very comfortable bed. Very well located and affordable. One slight annoyance- the room had the usual spiel about hanging up your towels if you didn't want them washed. Being environmentally concious we did this but they still replaced the towels. The next day we thought we'd solve the problem by putting up the "do not disturb" sign so the room wasn't serviced, but they still left us new towels outside the door.

Old and shabby. This is the start of a trip planned for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. Disappointing start. Bathroom look tired and the shower is awful. Staff very friendly, would have been nice if they had replaced the coffee for this morning.

"Far from maddening crowds"

4
13/04/2016

We travelled by Spirit of Tasmania Cruise from Sydney to Davenport in Tasmania and drove to Launceston..after ten days stay at Melbourne and Sydney,it's a great relief to stay at Launceston..Best Western is pretty hotel located in centre of CBD, staff are very cordial and guided is in exploring the best in and around Launceston. It's a little town free from maddening crowds and quite friendly people. Everything closes by 9.30 pm and one has to plan in advance the great places to travel such as Cradle Mountain and Cataract Gorge...the town reminds of some forgotten ancient place with contented population. I wish we could have spent at least two weeks in Tasmania as it offers pristine beauty and freshness around. Few pictures of Cradle Mountain and Cataract Gorge are here.

"Great place to stay"

5
11/04/2016

great place to stay with very friendly staff..the rooms are clean and internet is always fast. i would recommend this hotel for anyone going to Launceston. parking is quite cheap compared to every where else.

"OK but Overall Average"

3
10/04/2016

Beds comfortable. Shower poor flow and narrow tub. No A/C (which usually isn't needed). Rugs look like they need cleaning. Quiet room. Fast wifi. No nightstand between beds was inconvenient. Breakfast very complete. OK but just not a 4-star or 5-star property. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

"Strictly for business only?"

4
06/04/2016

Just a one night stay. Convenient location, comfortable beds, nice staff. Negative: the in house bar closed at 9pm eliminating the opportunity to chill over a nightcap within the hotel as we had arrived late. Dining Room: it lacked atmosphere at breakfast time. The buffet was fine but the dining room felt dated. Also a little effort in presentation could brighten the decorum of the room. Items such as table cloths on the tables for example. As stated the food was OK but the breakfast experience was a little deflating.

"nice location with common room quality"

3
05/04/2016

location is nice, quiet while the parking is not free, $6 perday. close to the main street and restaurant. you can walk to the most busy street within 5 minutes. room is fine but old and dark, but clean basically. nice staff and free wifi :)

Very comfortable room / bed / tea & coffee making facility etc. Breakfast was excellent – we particularly liked the delicious fruits and the cooked choices – good value for money too. Good parking arrangements with lift into the hotel. Not much of a view from our room - looking out onto nondescript looking buildings.

"unorganised and unhelpful"

Room was set up with a rollaway bed, as per the booking, every other factor was set up for two people. Two towels, two coffee pods etc.... Went to reception to ask for another towel and let them know that the rollaway bed mattress was ridiculously thin and the metal bar half way along the bed was digging into my sons back and could they do something about it. We went out for the evening and when we returned there was a towel on the end of the bed and nothing else had changed. My son said it was more comfortable sleeping on the floor!

"REAL DEAL"

03/04/2016

The hotel is just right at the city centre. Rooms are clean and spacious. Good buffet breakfast. Friendly staff. Real deal for the price! The only problem we had was the car park. Not many car park spaces

"I am a female and I had to ask for help with my luggage!"

30/03/2016

I booked in around 6pm after travelling a long way on 2 different planes so I arrived very tired but no one offered to help me with my luggage so I had to ask then they charged the earth for the room at least the wake up call was free but no breakfast included

"Comfort, Convenient and Close to City,"

3
30/03/2016

First time I have used Best Western. It was conveniently located, close to city. Easter weekend meant that many shops and services were closed due to public holidays, but the essentials were open and that's all we needed. Parking was cheap enough if needed. The room was adequate, king size bed that was very comfortable. Required use of the portable fan, which was working but needed to be replaced as some of the functions didn't work. Didn't use the restaurant facilities. Buffet breakfast expensive and wanted to explore some local cafes. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Free Wifi. Explored the Cataract Gorge which and local park with the monkey exhibit. Most interesting.

"Comfortable and close to the city centre"

4
29/03/2016

The room was comfortable and fresh, bed was one of the best i have found in a hotel. Close to the CBD and shopping areas. Launceston is the gate way to the Tamar valley. Worth a trip up the valley to Brady's Lookout and nearby wineries.

"Ok, but don't expect too much..."

3
23/03/2016

The location of this place is very convenient if you want to be in the city centre. It's a place that's been around for a number of years now and despite a bit of a face lift it still looks basic and a little tired. The room was had was at the front of the hotel, so you could hear the traffic noise, but thankfully the bed was extremely comfortable making for a very pleasant sleep. There was portable air conditioner, but that wasn't very effective, thankfully there was also a fan which was much more effective. The staff were friendly and pleasant and if you don't expect too much this hotel is ok.

"Conveniently located and very comfortable but parking poor"

4
22/03/2016

A very comfortable room with a king sized bed. Well located within relatively easy walking distance to river and shops. Parking was a problem and there were no available spaces on one night so had to park on the street and then move car in the morning

"One side of hotel is very noisy!"

3
21/03/2016

We stayed here as part of a work trip a few weeks ago - it's your standard basic hotel. Clean spacious rooms with standard bathroom. Standard hot breakfast buffet. One BIG tip though, is try to get a room on the opposite side of the entrance side. I stayed in a room facing the entrance side, there are local hoons driving around being noisy PLUS there's the Launceston Town Clock that does a full chime every hour, on the hour, as well as a short chime every 15 min past the hour. I was exhausted after a full day of travelling and did not appreciate still hearing the chimes past midnight. I guess this is no fault of Best Western, but a tip to anyone wanting to stay here. My colleagues who had rooms facing the other side said they didn't hear a thing.

"well situated to shops"

5
18/03/2016

the staff could not do enough to help, food was enjoyable at the tram bar and the king size bed was the best for comfort. we were in close to most of the points of interest and shops. Walking distance to boags and the motor museum too

"Better than ranking suggests"

4
17/03/2016

Reliable option when staying in launceston. Facilities here are average but the staff seem to be able to lift the experience to a pleasant stay. Rooms are nice, good size with nice furnishings. Only negative is bring your own shampoo, branded items provided are pretty average. Plenty of places to eat at nearby or enjoy in house menus which are fairly varied. You love to see a pool and/or gym added here to make this hotel a better option. This is my second stay and would come again.

"Nice and central to city centre"

4
16/03/2016

We found this hotel very conveniently situated, staff were very attentive and our room was sunny and clean. Bathroom was a little small but very clean. Bed was so comfortable with awesome pillows..the best!!

"Average"

3
13/03/2016

found staff friendly but highly priced for what we received in comparison to other similar priced hotels. Was unhappy with buffet and actually ate out one morning even though it was included. also everyone can use hotel carpark if they pay which means at times even though you have paid for parking it may not be available

"Very average.... Desperately needs an update"

3
13/03/2016

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway. Great spot but we won't be back. Where do I start... Carpets stained, curtains were filthy, bathroom needed a good scrub and it was very noisy. And we had a superior room ?? On the upside the bed was very comfortable. Very dissapointed

"Good value hotel"

4
12/03/2016

We stayed here for one night while on holiday in Tasmania. Close to the best value in our 2 weeks of travel. This large hotel is situated close to many good restaurants and cafes. The bathroom was a little dated however everything else was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and pillows were perfect.

"Drab room with no A/C"

3
11/03/2016

The hotel room was a nice size, but it was extremely drab. We were there on some fairly warm days and had to open the window and run the fan for comfort. They also have an evaporative cooler in the room, but no A/C. The restaurant meal was lacking and two people could not finish their steaks because they were so tough. The hotel is somewhat conveniently located.

09/03/2016

We do hope in future we stay in this hotel we can have more facilities such as good Gym room and swimming pool. Also this hotel needs to provide us more assistance for the day tour as we need to book from the city tourist information ventre not the hotel directly.

"Over Priced"

3
04/03/2016

OK location. It is an easy walk to most 'sights'. Easy to drive to and there is on site parking. Rooms are Ok but really dated. This hotel could definitely use a renovation and is really not a Best Western 'Plus'. Restaurant is Ok but it closes at 9:00 pm. Front desk staff are extremely helpful.

"Terrible"

1
02/03/2016

It was horrible from the start. Key didn't work (had to go up and down to reception 3 times before they would issue a new key). Three beds crammed into my room. Mattresses terribly soft and old. Room musty. Bathroom very dirty. Felt like I was travelling in a developing country. I've stayed at other places in Launceston that far exceed this Best Western. MOST DISAPPOINTING and cannot recommend it.

"Surprising!"

5
29/02/2016

Nice spacious room and ensuite, friendly and helpful staff. Better than expected facilities and well worth recommending. Great location but surprised to be asked to pay $6 for overnight parking. We had to leave early and having a 24/7 front desk made it easy.

"Mediocre"

3
28/02/2016

I traveled with an overseas travel company from the U.S. and they put us up at this "plus" hotel for 3 nights. The hotel definitely needs refurbishing. When I got there, it had no central A/C. but a portable air conditioning unit which, when carefully inspected, needed cleaning from the dust and dirt. Needless to say, I didn't turn it on! Complaining did no good as the hotel rooms, which did have air conditioning units, were fully booked. I guess it does no good booking 9 months in advance!!! I plan to take this matter up with the travel company when I return home.. The room itself was adequate, nothing to write home about. The lobby was the most horribly designed for a Best Western. It had no character and looked deserted most of the time. The breakfast was average. . I'd definitely recommend a better place to stay in a better part of the city.

"Close town "

4
26/02/2016

Clean and quiet for the city we ate at restaurant and staff friendly and food very good. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was also very good . We could walk into shopping areas and restaurant if you use TripAdvisor for restaurants the ones that are up the top fill up fast so book ahead

"Convenience, basic standard rooms"

4
26/02/2016

Older decor hotel (no more than a four star) located downtown Launceston. Hotel offers parking, wifi, restaurant, air con, room service and coin laundry facility (washing machine and Dryer located on third floor), standard room comes with TV, a proper hairdryer, a safe, TV, bar fridge and kettle. The hotel decor is somewhat dated, however has it covers all your requirements, rooms are quiet, shops are within walking distance. I would stay here again if needed. I booked on-line on and got great rate for 5 nights around $160 per night, I needed to extend my stay by one more night and the rate the front desk told was almost double... so didnt end up staying with them its not a 5 star hotel....

"Drab Interiors, Power Cut-off at Some Sockets"

1
23/02/2016

First thing I noticed was the drab interiors. The bathroom was done up in old-looking white wall tiles and grey floor tiles, a look-and-feel of bathrooms of the sixties. There is also no means of warming up the bathroom - no heating lamps or radiators. Some time during the night power to some of the sockets was cut-off. For me, it affected the charging of my devices. Also, the small fridge in the room was affected with water from melted ice running into the carpet. The safety glass covering of the light in the mini-bar was broken with a jagged piece 2cm long jutting down at an angle. I usually take snapshots of places I stayed in to remember them by. This is THE ONLY place where I absolutely refused to take photos of. It is that disgusting.

"Right in the heart of town"

3
22/02/2016

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in an Ex King room on the 4th floor we got Seniors discount but payed $143 for Friday and $161 for Saturday and payed $6 a day parking, It was very clean and comfortable but a few minor disappointments, there was tea & coffee making but no milk when I rang reception it took about 20 minutes to get milk and the young man was sent with a Litre jug of cold milk. There were no biscuits supplied and the shower was in the bath which would be a bit difficult for a lot of the elderly patrons that I seen.We ate in the Tram Bar and Bistro both nights and it was great value and very good food, drinks at happy hour prices. the barman Antonio was very friendly and helpful, It is in a great location and that's what you are paying for.

"Bit disappointed"

3
20/02/2016

This is a four star hotel but it is trying to save money cutting corners and it doesn't create a good impression. I've stayed here a few times and it seems to be suffering from trying to meet a budget rather than provide a service. It's in a great location and should be striving to be one of Launceston's best offerings.

"Hot, noisy and cramped - never again"

2
18/02/2016

At $299 a night this hotel is kidding itself. From the moment I checked in at reception I was unimpressed and it just got worse from there. The girl on reception was not welcoming - barely making eye contact or smiling. I was told that it would be $6 for parking in the car park next to the hotel - but there may or may not be spaces available - so if no space, we don't have to pay. Now, I'm not complaining about the ridiculously cheap price - just the fact that there may not actually be a space available and was not told what the alternative was - so I asked. 'Oh, there's another car park up the road but we don't own that one.' So one presumes that if you have to find your own park you just have to pay whatever the going rate is. OK, maybe I've been spoilt with other easy off street parking in Launceston accommodations. But then we went to our room. Hot summer day in Launceston and we discover we have no a/c. Yes I should have read the fine print when I booked - but seriously, I've never stayed in a Launceston hotel at $300 a night hotel that does not have a/c. Instead we found an ineffective evaporative cooler on the floor (with inadequate instructions) that struggled to even take the edge of the heat. We found an old electric fan in the wardrobe and plugged that in as well. These two combined with opening the window (with no insect screen) eventually made the hot box of a room bearable to sleep in - but open window with no insect screen in the middle of the city is not conducive to a good night's sleep either - especially if mosquitos are around. The room itself is very basic and small, though clean enough. The beds are the best part - actually comfortable. The bathroom is small and old fashioned, with a door that does not latch closed and a shower curtain over the bath - which again I don't expect in a $300 a night establishment. I had only booked this hotel because my first preferences were not available due to the number of events on in Launceston this week - but I can honestly say, that for the price, it is the worst place I've stayed in Launceston - and I am a regular visitor. Never again.

"Run of the Mill Hotel"

17/02/2016

Having a flight arriving late into Launceston, we chose Hadleys as it provided a 24 hour check in desk. The room was largish, the bathroom small and the carpet specked with an array of small stains. The room smelt stale - perhaps someone had been smoking in there or it was the bathroom. As it was late we could not be bothered with the hassle of changing rooms and settled down for the night in a very large comfy bed. At 6am we were woken to the sound of either a group leader or group member knocking on neighboring doors to tell them it was time to get up. This was followed at 6.30 by another round of knocking to let them know that it was time they were in breakfast. We let reception know on checking out and they removed the annoying $6 parking charge as some form of compensation (although it was not their fault).

"Great location"

4
17/02/2016

We stayed at the Great western on the weekend. We were greeted when we arrived by a friendly staff member which is always a good start to a holiday. The rooms are very clean and a very comfortable bed. The only small thing that stopped me giving this a perfect score was the room did not have air conditioning so it was a bit warm. We did go to the Tram bar for a drink which is on the premises it was a lovely place for a quiet drink but they do not sell any Cider which really surprises me as it is very unusual for a bar not to sell Cider. The Hotel is central to everything and we did not need to use the car just walked everywhere. Would definitely recommend this place to stay and will definitely stay there again.

"It was ok."

3
17/02/2016

We got it on special - would not have been happy to pay full price. Very clean, well located, breakfast was good. No air conditioning meant very stuffy room which the evaporator did little to touch. This affected our last nights sleep before tackling the overland trek which was disappointing.

"Room"

3
14/02/2016

The first room we had was shocking . A old air con which leaked water on carpet .Bathroom was disgusting the back of the door had not been wiped . We got upgraded at no extra price . I would not stay there again . To pricey for the quality of the rooms ...............

"Huge Room with spa"

5
08/02/2016

this hotel was so clean and tidy and the room we stayed in was massive. the staff were lovely and reception were able to answer any question we had. Food was lovely also, and very close to everything, the bed was fabulous we didn't want to leave and wished we had stayed longer

"Adequate but dull"

3
08/02/2016

Our room was adequate but only just with no air conditioning. The bathroom was decidedly tired. The hotel is reasonably well placed to explore the town but it's biggest shortcoming is that it has no facilities available between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm and apart from the duty receptionist is virtually dead between those hours. The bar then closes at 9.00pm despite the fact that there were several customers still there and wanting further service. Food was acceptable but no more. I am sure there are better hotels in Launceston.

"Just good standard"

3
07/02/2016

Value for money wise I would say it's just ok The room although small for a superior king size was clean and well appointed including a nespresso machine The breakfast pricey for what it was and we didn't bother with the restaurant as there are more interesting establishments to try nearby The walls are rather thin as well as we could hear our neighbour coughing throughout the night. If it was $75 cheaper a night it would be just ideal as it is it's just an ordinary city hotel

"No Air Conditioning ?? "

2
02/02/2016

All I can say is ask for a room with Air Conditioning - without it, the room is fowl - they provide a small fan, and a air 'cooler' both look like they have been pull out of 1980 (dust and all). I'm sure it's just fine in the cooler months, but in summer with a window that only opens 20cms, diabolical.

"Very enjoyable stay"

4
28/01/2016

We stayed here several nights on and off in January and found it clean pleasant and friendly in a good location to walk into town and even to the gorge. Reception and checkout were easy and the room was well equipped and (for a nice hotel) reasonably priced. The bathrooms could do with an update and the one time we had breakfast in the restaurant most of the components of the "hot" breakfast buffet were lukewarm at best (common complaint I find). When we left early to catch a plane we risked the room service poached eggs and they were hot and not overcooked - so well done there. Free WiFi but no free parking. Very friendly helpful reception staff.

"Nice"

4
28/01/2016

24 hr check in was helpful as we arrived around mid night when most of things got closed in the area. 24hr room service is plus in case you are hungry. We been offered free car parking when we paid the parking on parking meter outside.

"Great place to stay"

4
25/01/2016

Great location in centre of Launceston, friendly staff and ready to help with our needs. Rooms reasonably sized but could have air conditioning for future upgrades. Car parking was not complementary and therefore had to pay $6 per night for this.

"Tassie retreat "

24/01/2016

Really comfortable room. Great location & the staff were very friendly & accommodating. We had dinner at Snappers on level1 & was found it very reasonablely priced. We also had the buffet breakfast there & were not disappointed. If we visit Launceston again we would definitely re-book again.

"Clean, Friendly and Central"

4
22/01/2016

We had a great stay in Jan16. The staff were terrific with lots of local knowledge and so keen to help! A good value for money place to stay in the heart of Launceston and a short trip to many attractions like the Tamar Valley wine route. Parking is also available on site.

"Comfortable room, relaxing atmosphere."

5
20/01/2016

Very welcoming by staff at check in. Room was clean, comfortable and created a relaxing atmosphere. Great location, waliking distance to the City Park and eateries. In house restaurant was very good. The Tram Restaurant has good food, but service was a little slow.

"Comfortable room"

4
20/01/2016

The room was comfortable and clean. The bed was comfortable, Wifi was good, no safe in the room. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly. The lounge was nice. I think most anyone would be comfortable staying at this hotel.

"Comfortable room, great location"

4
19/01/2016

Very easy access to central Launceston and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Didn't dine at the restaurant - the menu indicates at the bottom of each page that there are GF & V options, however none of the menu items have either next to them! There are plenty of dining options within walking distance which afford ample choices. Parking was very easy via a voucher for the paid car park right next door.

"Just the usual hotel room but most staff good"

3
17/01/2016

What can you expect from a hotel room? One room, cramped conditions, the usual issues. The fridge was ancient and chock full of mini bar rubbish. The towels were fluffy and nice, however. One staff member gave the others a bad name by his hopelessness regarding a towel that wasn't put back after the room was serviced. He had to be phoned twice and then delivered it with his phone up to his ear and no apology. The other staff members were very helpful and polite. Photo shows view from bathroom.

"Happy with what we paid for."

4
15/01/2016

Read a few complaints, but this place met all our expectations. About $153 a night that gave us a king bed, air conditioning , free parking and free wifi and a view. Had room service one night and food was pretty good, but a little pricey. Beds very comfy, fridge in room, complimentary toiletries, free printing of boarding passes. Location good also. Would I stay here again? Yes.

"Poor Value to No Value for the Price, Stay Elsewhere"

1
10/01/2016

Price Tues. night was NZ$179.00(US$129.77) and Wed. night NZ289.00 (US$209.50), with no explanation other than high season and the differences between the two nights was "supply and demand". No help from desk clerk when asked for confirming flights and transport to the airport; she said handle in the AM. Argued with desk clerk Re receiving BW points (she was wrong). Breakfast not included and no Best Western Rewards perks. Had one beer in the bar but it was very noisy so I drank my beer and left. GOOD NEWS ......the Royal Oak Hotel around the corner has a very good pub and food. Room lights were so dim, made reading impossible. Bathroom and fixtures dated. Tub if standing to use as a shower is dangerous since the corners of the floor are curved and slippery. Others issues, but no space here for details. Night clerk in the AM had no time to help and no one else on duty.

"Good location "

4
10/01/2016

Stayed on the 6th level with city view .The room appears to have been recently refurbished, spacious, clean and bed very comfy. This hotel has a restaurant, bar and gym. Car parking for me at a ridiculous $6 per night !!Free wi fi for guests .Frindly staff.Good location; walking distance to shopping and restaurants.

"Very good location very poor customer service"

3
09/01/2016

The room itself and the reception transactions were not bad. The location was very convenient. However I have to mention that we forgot a personal item in the room (our fault). The duty manager to whom I spoke to to locate it was not helpful at all saying that she could not locate the name under which the room was booked. She specifically said "this is not a good time". Was rude and the tone she used was not a polite one. Didn't feel very good about it for spending $169 a night. Don't think recommend staying at the hotel if you require good customer service.

Very good location and very well priced. I'm a Photographer and travelling alone so space, and facilities didn't bother me much as i'll be out all day. The staff was friendly and the restaurant had great food that was reasonable priced.

30/12/2015

Walking distance to everything (Launceston CBD is small anyways). Friendly staff. Free wifi. Free car parking. Nice breakfast in restaurant. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Onsite restaurant and bar.

"Handy location but average facilities "

30/12/2015

After paying over $200 for a single night i guess i was expecting a little more .. old feel but clean. .clock not working .. air cond so small that was thrashing all night to keep it at 22c .. ok but would find somewhere else next time ..

"Location is good"

4
26/12/2015

The hotel is old. The room is so small for a family. The food is so so and I never see the restaurant opened. Maybe because that's cams season? but the location is good. It's next to the shopping mall. You can find everything nearby. It has free wifi. This is very convenient. No air-con. Is this same thing to other hotels in launceston?

"Great location and decent facilities "

4
26/12/2015

I stayed with my husband and 13 month old son for 6 days in the Executive Room. Although the photos made the room look a lot bigger than it was, the bed was big & comfortable and had a great view of Launceston. The bathroom was a little outdated but worked just the same. Staff were very friendly and helpful although they did forget to get back to us a few times about special requests. The only two things that I was a little disappointed about was there was no microwave in the room & I had to keep going downstairs to have reception heat up my son's bottles, and the HDMI ability of the TV didn't work. My husband enquired with reception to change the TV channel to HDMI and they said it wasn't allowed. A little disappointed given the amount of money we spent on the room. Despite those two things, I really enjoyed my stay in Launceston. The best part would have to be the location of this hotel - very close to main shopping mall.

"would highly recommend"

4
24/12/2015

good location and good amenities. one problem with the non-aircon room was the window is unable to open wider. there was no problem with the air con room tho. manager was very helpful when checking in and help us with the luggage.

"Good location"

22/12/2015

This hotel is well located, near the centre of the CBD and walking distance to shopping, cafes and restaurants. I have stayed here a number of times yet keep forgetting that some of the rooms, particularly those offered at "special rates" don't have airconditioning. This isn't a problem for much of the year but can be very uncomfortable if the warmer months. Car parking is available behind the hotel but if you are lucky enough to get a spot leave your car there and walk around town as it is unlikley that you will secure another parking spot when you return during business hours. The rooms are of a reasonable size, adequately furnished and generally clean. Reception staff have always been friendly and helpful. On this occasion they organised a late dinner reservation for me when my preferred restaurants weren't open on a Sunday night. All up a good stay but I must remember about the airconditioning next time.

"Best Western in town."

4
19/12/2015

The hotel is nothing fancy, as it a Best Western Plus, which includes a breakfast in the morning, Nothing to write home about, as it doesn't cater to people with dietary problems. Rooms were reasonably kept up and staff were friendly but didn't go the extra mile. It was fairly priced and in a good location to a lot of things. I'd consider staying there again.

"Very ordinary for 4.5 star"

1
19/12/2015

concede that it is very warm today, however would expect a 4.5 star hotel to have aircon. And no tissues! Were seeking an early check-in (12 noon) to prepare for wedding, requested via online booking - no response, called day prior to arrival and was told they would let us know - no response, called when 30mins away and very unhelpful and unwilling receptionist told us that could not guarantee and suspect didn't try. So guess what nothing available! Not unreasonable to expect at least a friendly attempt.

"Okay for a short stay"

3
15/12/2015

We only stayed a couple of nights & our room wasn't cleaned when we left for a few hours in the morning. Had to ask for clean towels etc. The cleaners saw us leave too. I read a review that said their room was opposite the cleaners room/stock room & the cleaners were noisy. Guess what? They were right. They were noisy & woke me up! Overall it was a good stay but the room was overly warm & we had to put the AirCon on through the night. Might be ok for those from Qld, WA etc., who aren't use to the colder climate. Lovely tram cart restaurant & nice food & ambiance. Very little car parking out back (even when you have prepaid for it. You have to get in early for a park for the night or you'll end up on the road with a parking ticket like us! Convinced the by laws officer was doing his daily revenue raising & very aware of the lack of parking available.

"Suite had space but lacked anything special... "

3
15/12/2015

I decided to pamper myself by upgrading to a suite for my stay this time at the hotel... While I appreciated the extra space afforded by the living/dining room attached to my bedroom there was a distinct difference in the standard of refurbishment between the two rooms.. The bedroom was by far the better room... There was an ugly stain on the carpet of the living/dining room... Having a dining table was quite nice as I was able to eat my room service at a proper table as opposed to a coffee table.. Another advantage of the suite was the split system reverse-cycle air-conditioning unit which added greatly to the comfort level of the two rooms... The central position of this hotel is a distinct advantage... But after two stays here I'm beginning to feel a bit like Goldilocks...

"The best nights sleep I have had in a long time!!"

5
15/12/2015

The location is very central and we went for a lovely walk through the city. Parking is only $6 and seems very secure (although this could be because we could see the car from the room). Check in was very quick and the customer service was wonderful, she explained in full everything I had booked and confirmed they were available till late for any dramas. We had booked the suite which was on the top floor. It was a great idea for us as we are a young couple on our first major holiday. It was romanic and very spacious, it seemed bigger than what the photographs depicted. We were very happy with the price which was around $300 for the night (through bookings.com) and this included breakfast but not the parking. We didn't eat at the hotel but could walk to the main part of the city for a large selection of food. Once back my partner went to run the spa to find out that our plug was broken (assuringly by the previous guests). I took it to the reception and they were apologetic and went to find us a new one which they said they would bring to the room when they had sorted it out. Within half a hour we had a new plug and apologises from the staff for this incident, my partner and I didn't care and knew it would be there if we were patient. We don't see the point in yelling at people who can't control these things. The spa was large and had room for the two of us to comfortably relax. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had the best sleep I have had in that week. We found out that morning that you can purchase the same mattress from the hotel through there promotion. I strongly considered this as it was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was a standard buffet but was fresh, they were busy when we got there so there was food missing but this was filled quickly and we had a filling breakfast. Reception staff were very kind and were easy to talk to, we had a good chat before I checked out. The women next to us was talking to staff about sights nearby and they were polite and very happy to help her. The women who checked me out apologised again for the plug and explained that it had never happened before. Overall it was a wonderful hotel and we would stay there again of at other Best Western hotels in the same style of room!

"Safe, clean, comfortable"

Overall, was not disappointed. However, expected a bit more as this is one of the largest hotels in a relatively large city for Tasmania. I have stayed in much more 'luxury' hotels for much cheaper, but it is clean, safe, and a bit higher end that the traditional European-style hotels that are popular in Australia. The room service was relatively quick, but they refused to order off the late-night menu because I called 30 minutes before the switch from the day/evening to the night menu (different items are on each menu). They also tried to charge me for two cars at check-out so ensure your bill is accurate so you do not get charged extra.

"Nice hotel, great location"

This is a good hotel, it's in a nice location and features large and clean rooms. The reception staff are extremely friendly. I found the bed not quite as comfortable as I'd like but maybe thats just personal preference.. Also the parking situation on busy nights is far from ideal.. The carpark was full during my stay but there is street parking available, if not on Earl street you'll find some on the next major street up the hill. The hotel offers breakfast but I had to leave before 7am (when breakfast starts) for both mornings of my stay.. Tea and coffee etc in the room is adequate as is the bathroom. The free wifi worked well and there were power points on both sides of the bed which is a rarity in most hotels.. Overall would recommend.

"Very central and comfortable"

Thanks to Tom Tom we were able to find Earl St easily tucked away in the middle of the city. They had met our special request for blankets not doonas and we were able to open the window for fresh air. Everything clean and comfy. We had a king bed but there was also a single bed in the room which was a little squeezey but for the night no real problem. Getting into a bath for a shower is always a bit of a down particularly for short people.

"Maintained the Best Western tradition of being well located, clean and friendly."

01/12/2015

Driving into the CDB of Launceston for the first time was easy, finding Earl Street was a little more challenging. Thankfully friendly locals gave clear directions to the Hotel which was right in the middle of the City. From then on it was easy to drive to and from the Hotel to the surrounding points of interest. Launceston, Australia's third oldest City has retained much of it's heritage; most of which is accessible with a short walk from the Hotel. Not surprisingly this Hotel echoed much of what we experienced at the BW Hobart; it was clean, convenient and had friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were well presented and were quiet ensuring a good nights sleep. The Dining Room needed to be brightened up and the breakfast was basic. Many of the Hotel guests would include some older citizens, therefore the shower in the bath was seen as a negative. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

"Super comfortable large bed, great central location"

01/12/2015

We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend and found the large bed super comfortable. The older style, front facing room was well maintained and partly refurbished, with pleasing neutral decor. The bathroom was very well ventilated and had a convenient clothesline for 'smalls' above the bath. There was some street noise at night, but this is to be expected in the centre of town. A group singing Happy Birthday around 11pm also kept us awake briefly. The courtesy computer in the business centre came in handy. Whenever the car park is full, guests may park in the driveway outside the lobby and leave the car key at reception.

"Good value room in a great location."

Good value room with cheap onsite parking. Great location. Very close to the shopping mall and the cinema. However they only provided us with one set of toiletries in the bathroom, despite stating that there would be two staying in the room. But this was a minor problem.

"NEVER AGAIN "

My daughter and I made this booking online with a package deal. We were told we would receive 2 for 1 dinner at the Snappers restaurant, free parking and a bottle of wine upon arriving. We looked up the menu and was happy with that and made a booking based a lot on this deal and the food on offer in restaurant. At least a month before arrival I rang to make a booking in restaurant and that was fine and rang a week prior to confirm and was all good. When we arrived we had to wait 10 min (in a 5 min parking area) before we could get out of the car. We were given a voucher for the restaurant and was told we could eat at either the restaurant or the Tram Bar Lounge to which we replied that we booked specifically the restaurant. We were given 2 keys to the room both of which took at least 5 - 6 goes before it would unlock the door. We went to have tea only to be told that the restaurant was booked for a function and we could eat in the bar. We were not happy at all but were tired and hungry. We ordered fish and chips. My daughter could only eat half her fish as there was a grey grissle running through one half of the fish that even the knife couldn't cut through. The barmaid did apologise and that was it. We cut our losses and went to our room. We later ordered dessert in our room and my daughter ordered Churros. They were soft on the outside and still raw in the middle. I rang reception and was told that was how they served them as they have to "tweek" the recipe as they don't have the facilities to cook them at a high enough temperature for normal Churros. I said but the pastry is raw and was told it was ok to serve them like that. They were not eaten. We had to ask about our bottle of complimentary wine as well. We paid $15 and bought a movie in house and 10 minutes from the end it stopped. The rooms themselves are very comfy. The shower is over the bath and is difficult to get out of. We did not get much sleep due to a church bell ringing every 1/2 hour close by. We hoped breakfast would at least be ok, but were disappointed. We were told we could choose to sit at 2 tables only (even though there were only about 6 other people there). The eggs were poached, hard yolks and rubbery. They did bring a plate of scrambled eggs to our table when we asked for them, but they were overcooked and rubbery. The only fresh fruit was a single Apple and some watermelon. The other fruit on offer was tinned. I thought I would try some toast but the only things to put on it were vegemite and 3 different types of jam that was in a bowl and not in individual sachets. There were no pastries (there was an empty basket with crumbs where they should have been). I decided to get a coffee and pressed latte and nothing happened, cappuccino, nothing, flat white, nothing. I asked the man there and he said the only one that worked was just straight coffee and you add your own milk and hot water. The man beside me said, so they are just there for show" and he replied yes. We were so over it by this stage and decided to leave. I spoke to a lovely lady Heather in reception who was sympathetic to our frustration In the end we paid for our nights accomodation (which was fine, except for the church bell ringing every 1/2 hour) and we paid for the 2 drinks. Everything else was waived and she then gave me a voucher for free parking for the day (upon which arriving at home discovered we had been charged for it). The whole experience was terrible and I would never recommend staying there. I am grateful to Heather for reimbursing us but it should never have happened.

"Close to town"

30/11/2015

We stayed at the Best Western Plus four 4 nights and the only thing we could find fault with was the shower. It was over a smallish bath tub and probably should be updated. Other than that it was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast (buffet) was terrific. There was plenty to chose from and all very well cooked and presented. Staff were very nice and were very helpful when asked questions etc. Very close to town centre. Would stay here again if in Launceston.

"Great value"

Very happy with the rate we got on this room. The bed was extremely comfortable , and we are fussy. Great location for getting to everything and really nice staff. Very clean and adequate for our needs for a one night stop over. We would stay here again.

"Good hotel in Lonny"

27/11/2015

Stayed one night here on the way from Port Arthur to Melbourne. Nice hotel in good central position. Why do they have to have such narrow baths, where it feels dangerous to stand up. Take it out and out a shower in. Breakfast was good and the wifi was good.

"So convenient......."

27/11/2015

This hotel/motel is so conveniently located next to the city center yet an easy drive to the airport. The room was clean, spacious, well appointed and the bed (the most important item) was a very comfortable King Size. We had a meal in the Tram room which was very good. Did not try the A la carte restaurant, but the menu looked good. The staff were polite, helpful and efficient.

"It was 'ok'"

22/11/2015

The best western has a good, fairly central location in the city, and walking to places was no problem. The room itself was fine, smallish but comfortable. There was no tv reception though... The bathroom was a bit cramped and didn't have a walk in shower... it was fairly noisy too with the theatre situated right next door. And to my surprise, I had to pay for parking when I checked out!

"Good deal at a great price"

We stayed at the BW, Launceston for a night on Nov 15th. We took the Tassie Retreat package and were upgraded to an executive king room on the 6th floor. Great views all round the city from there. Bottle of Morgan's bay Sav Blanc on arrival in the room. 2 for 1 dinner offer was great at the tram car bistro (snappers was closed on a Sunday night). Bill under $40 AUD! Free car park overnight, and big brekky the next morning at Snappers....everything you wanted. Pleasant stay and wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks BW.

"Comfortable and clean."

16/11/2015

Overall a good, quiet, comfortable place to stay with the mall just down the street. We had booked a room with a king size bed. The room was not overly large but fine for a short stay. Great location and handy to shops and restaurants.

The only item that brought the whole experience down was the staff making of the bed with the terrible blanket that had several holes in it. This was just unbelievable. The location of the car parking arrangement is not the best but we managed. The cooked eggs for breakfast were cold, but the rest was good.

"Central, convenient, but needs some TLC"

3
12/11/2015

This central hotel, more for business travellers, used to be called The Great Northern, and was one of the best in the city. Time has moved on, but apart from a name change, not much has changed here. On the positive side there's free wifi, friendly staff, and location. Rooms are comfortable, but no walk in shower is a miss. Mini bar is frugal.

"Comfortable "

08/11/2015

Comfortable rooms, convenient location, bit confusing with the on-site parking, seems car park shared with adjacent Princess Theatre, appears to be first in best dressed! We did partake in room service for dinner and breakfast but had a problem getting a filled salt shaker!

"Central location. "

08/11/2015

Stayed here for 3 nights while working in Launceston. Check in was good but parking is limited. The room was clean but a little outdated and could do with a update. The bed was comfortable and room a good size. It is close to the CBD for food and shopping. The staff were helpful and always had a smile.

"An excellent hotel"

We arrived by plane on a Friday night and drove straight here for a late check-in. The staff were friendly especially in the tram bar but the room was basic and car park was full. Another car park was empty a short walk from the hotel though! We found this hotel to be good value and in a great location, it just has ageing facilities but overall a good place to stay

The room was so comfortable it was beautiful ... Mattress and pillows were Devine. the hotel is centrally located in the main part of town. The decor in the room has new and the room had a light and bright feeling about It. Our room had a bath which was fabulous. I loved the The newspapers in the entrance. Parking was very easy and overall we were delighted with the quality of our stay.

"Overpriced, but great location"

On location, this hotel is in a great spot in Launceston. It's easy walking distance to everything in the CBD. The staff were helpful & friendly. The hotel is a little aged, and offered nothing special, therefore I felt $139 was overpriced for one night. Other than that, a good spot to stay. Parking was a challenge, but staff offered an easy alternative.

"An Average Experience"

3
31/10/2015

Stayed two nights as part of a group of 12. Room was average at best. No air conditioning but we had a fan to move the air around. That worked out ok. We had two beds in room, a single and a king. But no desk nor chair high enough to use the little round table for computer. Had to type on my lap. It was conveniently located and we understand there may be some variation in the room layout and furnishings. They did provide a chit for a free drink in the bar but we found the bar a bit noisy and cramped. Oh well, the bed was comfortable.

"Central to shops and restaurants"

We wanted to stay close to the CBD, and this location delivered. We left the car parked the whole time. We were upgraded to a suite (possibly thanks to Best Western status) so it was great value for us. The room was clean and comfortable, but the bathroom looked dated. The spa tub jets had the paint chipped off them, the fixtures were outdated and the green paint didn't help. Parking is tight. You may end up without a space and yet they offer paid public parking. The first floor has the Tram Bar. Its quiet, relaxed and well stocked. Definitely worth a visit and a photo in the tram. The room has a fridge, coffee maker, and a safe. No microwave.

I find the staff here to be professional and fun. They are more than helpful and are great to have a chat with, which is great when you are travelling alone a lot. The location is ideal with walking distance to parks and restaurants meaning you can leave the car keys behind.

Booked 3 rooms and arrived with a dozen of luggages in tow. The hotel didn't have a porter, but luckily there's a luggage trolley. We are happy to do it ourselves anyhow :) Shame there's no connecting room. If you need one, do check ahead. Wi-fi didn't connect very well and slow.

"Great position in the city of Launceston"

15/10/2015

This hotel was so very close to everything in the city and made navigating our way around very easy. The staff are very friendly and only too happy to help. Our room was clean and quiet - though the bathroom could do with a bit of an update. The cost of the minibar drinks and snacks were pretty expensive, but we don't usually buy form them anyway. the Tram bar downstairs was absolutely amazing! You can sit in a tram car to quietly consume your drink - great ambiance. Internet connection is free and wireless and very easy to use. The parking isn't free though, which is a shame, and this costs $10 a day. The sunset we watched from our hotel room was spectacular.

"Great Place to Stay right in Launceston"

15/10/2015

Always spotlessly clean and rooms have been refurbished in beautiful decor. Have the most comfy beds with spotlessly clean linen. Situated right in the heart of Launceston within walking distance of shops and restaurants. We have stayed multiple times and will continue to do so. Cleanliness is paramount with my Motel choices and this ticks all the boxes.

"Central location inn Launceston"

Great CBD location with parking in the centre of the city. Walking distance to shopping, theatre and parks. Great food in the Tram Bar but limited seating. Quiet room and very comfortable beds. Hotel dated but still comfortable. Would suit business or family needs.

10/10/2015

This Motel was very clean and comfortable. Central to town with CBD parking and public transport information supplied in the room. Also offered 2 forms of eating places within the complex. We went with the Restaurant and the meal was magnificently yummy ( but the wait of over 45 minutes was a bit much) and a nice gesture would be to have parking onsite complimentary with the stay instead of an extra charge.

"Good location....generic accommodation"

09/10/2015

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean however no air conditioning which upon entering made it feel quite hot and stuffy. Thankfully the window could be opened to let fresh air in. We ate dinner at the tram bar which was fine - very basic. Disappointing that being so close to the Tamar Wine region, the wine list was appalling! Breakfast was fine, nothing spectacular. Popular for business travellers we think. Bathroom was very clean which is nice.

"Dinner"

05/10/2015

Had dinner at the snappers restaurant was pleased. Steak I had was cooked just right and the big bowl of potatoes I got as a side dish was yum. My husband ha the salmon and he said that it was great. The restaurant its self could do with a bit of a make over because it is very dark and dingy. The staff are to be commended very efficient, helpful and friendly. Would I go back to this restaurant? Yes I would

If you need something right in the CBD centre, with a family room, cheap parking and free wifi, then this is the place! Staff were amazing and helpful and welcoming.
