"Wonderfully renovated hotel close to the beach"

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for business but we chose it due to its proximity to the beach. This hotel has been completely renovated and is quite lovely. I loved that there was no carpet in our room, it was very clean, and the staff was very friendly. It is relatively close to restaurants although I would say not walking distance. The pool looked lovely but my husband and I did not have time to enjoy it. Overall if I were in the area I would definitely stay again.

"Pleasant stay"

We enjoyed our stay here. Nice, clean rooms. Professional staff willing to help. We would stay here again. Close to beaches, shopping and restaurants.The breakfast was good, the food was fresh and the staff working in the restaurant were pleasant.

"Great place to stay"

Hotel was great & close to everything.NEar Jacksonville which is a beautiful city. Close to the Ocean. The stall at the hotel was extremely helpful & extremely knowledgable. They were helpful in helping us pick good restaurants.

"Unauthorized authorizations"

I checked in on a Thursday afternoon at 3:36pm and noticed the next Saturday that, on top on the sum value of the hotel cost authorized on my card, there was also another night authorized on my card. The front desk attendant told me it was because I didn't check in before check-in time, but 36min later. That was a major inconvenience to me because it was a weekend and no bank operates quickly enough to free your extra unauthorized funds on weekends. No bank. Ever. In the history of banks. This policy says the hotel manager doesn't trust its' guests and the psychology of trust stems from self.

"Great Accomodations, No complaints."

Enjoyed my stay here. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. Never a negative response. Nice self-serve breakfast. Rooms are recently nicely renovated and comfortable. The pool is clean and comfortable and has a hoist for handicapped guests. It seems that the policies that are in place here are designed with the GUEST in mind.

"Great Hotel, Bad Location"

This hotel was great. All of the amenities were awesome. The staff was professional & friendly. We were all checked in quickly and efficiently. The only thing I didn't like was the location. We traveled with a large group on a bus, so there were not many restaurants in walking distance, and it was hard to maneuver the bus in the small parking lot.

Good clean hotel with breakfast located near Naval Station where I was going right across from the Navy Exchange, and near other fast food places will stay here again when the time comes for me to be in the area

"Adequate plus"

Clean, pleasant staff, quiet. The breakfast included sausage, omelets, and make your own waffles. The mattress and linens were ok but not great. Same with shower. Decent value for the money. I ate at Simply Tasty Thai practically across the street---good Thai restaurant. Check out the Tide Views Preserve--free and 5 min from hotel.

Located just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and Mayport Naval Station, the staff is outgoing and friendly. The hotel is clean and classy. Every employee was very helpful and worked to ensure all my needs were met. Breakfast was hot and delicious. The front desk had local dining recommendations. The pool was a great place to relax and enjoy the weather. Overall experience was awesome. I would recommend the Mayport Best Western hotel to business travelers and families. You will love it here :)

"Nice rooms, great staff, yummy breakfast"

My son and I stayed for three nights at this Best Western. Everyone that works there is very polite and helpful. The rooms are very nice, big comfy bed, mini fridge, tv worked great. The breakfast was always fresh and the hot options were hot. We would definitely stay here again.

"Bad experience"

Encounter problem with check in. We were place next to gym and cafeteria and lobby because someone else extended there stay. There were cockroaches in the bathroom, shower. Unable to eat breakfast due to the possibility of cockroaches in the food area.

"Very Nice"

The staff was very friendly, and helpful, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The internet was easy to connect to and fast. The front desk person was very helpful in getting us a room close to an exit since we were smokers. The only downside I could see was the size of the breakfast area. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

"PCS travel"

Very good location near NS Mayport. Friendly staff, remodeled interior. Outside is still being worked on looks like an older hotel but inside is modern and clean. Onsite laundry was helpful after staying a week. Would recommend to anyone traveling for vacation or business.

We come to Jacksonville every year for our vacation and for the last 3 years have stayed at the Best Western Mayport, the staff treat us like family and its like coming home when we stay, we look forward to seeing everyone each time we come. The rooms are very comfortable and the new renos look great cant wait to see the completion next year when we come back.

"Fantastic stay"

Since we stayed here last December they have made renovations and the place looks fantastic. New furniture out by the pool, breakfast area has all been redone, rooms looks fantastic, best of all the same great staff is here and they make us feel right at home everytime. We highly recommend the Best Western Mayport if you are in the area. When we come down every year it does feel like coming home thanks to the staff.

The hotel was very clean. The service was very helpful and had me in my room within just minutes after booking. The whole hotel was cleaned frequently and smelled very good. Breakfast in the morning and WiFi if you need!

The front desk personnel, room, bathroom, full breakfast, and the entire hotel staff were wonderful. The breakfast was constantly being replenished so you didn't have to ask for items. Our 2 small dogs were welcomed and that was a necessity for our decision to stay here. When we come back to visit our son and his family, we will be staying here each trip.

This is my go to hotel in Atlantic Beach, my mom lives around the corner and I stay here often. The recent remodel has made it even better. Only place I will stay in the Jacksonville area. Clean and safe.

"1 night stay for cruise"

Poor breakfast and a lot of missing trim on much of the area on 1 st floor. Front desk assured more tables would be set up for breakfast for the following morning, yet the next morning, the tables were stacked against the wall.

"Fine for a short stay"

Very clean room and comfy bed. The breakfast was ok, BW basics. Wifi signal was great. Note this hotel accepts pets. There was a yappy dog on the first floor so we were accommodated on the second floor, away from the pet area.

The hotel was very clean, bed was nice and firm to sleep on. The bathroom was clean. All the linen was clean. The television and channels all showed. The hotel has HBO. I really enjoyed myself. There were several stores and places to eat.

"Week end Get a way"

In town for Chris Stapleton concert. Very clean rooms, comfy bed. Just wish it wsnt so noisy in the mornings. Decent breakfast...one more waffle maker would help. Everything else was very nice. Good choice.

"Acceptable but Improvable"

Non-smoking Room smelled like smoke (i have a sensitive nose). Breakfast was edible...but not very good. Bed was comfortable...pillows were not. Lightening in room was very dim. Lightening in bathroom was also dim...good for middle of night. Very bad for putting on makeup!

"Unethical, deceitful, and disrespectful to customers"

During my stay, I was stalked and harassed by the only person apparently working in the hotel that night. There was no one at the front desk and I needed extra towels. There were some sitting RIGHT THERE, so I looked around, saw no one, and took a few extra for the room. I was followed back into the hallway by Jose, who then asked me why I just took the towels. He continued to harass me, made me SUPER uncomfortable, asked for my room number, all over extra towels. When I wouldn't give him my room number he replied with, “I already know what room you're in.” I don't know why Best Western thinks it's ok for their employees to HARASS their customers, and why they let them get away with this behavior. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. After promising me a refund upon checkout, I never received it, even though I have a receipt as evidence, with the managers name on the service recovery. I'm not sure what type of business thinks it's legal to issue a refund and then recharge without consent or notification. It has been over 2 weeks and Thomas doesn't even have to courtesy or decency to return a phone call. He finally emailed back tonight saying he was not going to refund me, only after getting their corporate office involved. At this point, I've had to file a dispute with my credit card company, and I'm filing a complaint with the BBB.

Couldn't have asked for a better stay or a better value. Business trips are always a pain but the stay here made it pleasurable. The staff, the amenities, the location, the price and most importantly the value made it all worth while.

Nice hotel. Quiet. Would stay at again. They were in the middle of redoing g the floors but they did a good job of keeping the dust and noise down to a minimum . Room was quiet with zero road noise. Able to sleep

Small hotel close to Atlantic Beach. Verry nice and friendly staff!! Quite area, but only 15-20 min drive to all reataurants or bigger shopping area... 40min drive is the outlet shopping in st.augustine...

"rip off prices, moaning miserable complaingin receptionist"

we arrived after being exhausted from fleeing hurricane Irma... and arrived to be met by a very rude lady on reception, who kept saying I have been here since 10 am (it was six) and moaning on n on how tired she was, and did not know about what facilities were up and running, knew nothing about what restaurants or food places were open, (even though an influx of people were copmign and going and saying what was open and shut) a viligant caring staff would make a note, write on a piece of paper so they could share with customers coming through!! just kept repeating I am all alone I don't know I have been here since ten, I have not stepped foot out of the door, blah blah.. no regard for tired distraught visitors to their hotel...when we got our room it was wet from rain, beds were not made, no air con was switched on.. when I went to asked she repeated I have sixty rooms I do not know if they are made up or the air con is on, you will have to switch it all on yourself, or look.. we ended up helping ourselves from their laundry room and made our own beds.. would not mind if apologetic etc under the circumstances... but for 208 a night just for a bed? ripping people off under horrid circumstances, imo NOT on..and with miserable staff.... everywhere else we visited and stayed during our evacuation could not do ENOUGH....but this place..... BAD, normally would have complained, but too tired to do so! if I owned this establishment I would fire the lady....

Dear madiestan: I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. The hotel was under a mandatory evacuation due to Hurricane Irma. However, once the storm passed FEMA had an urgent need for shelter for first responders so the hotel resumed operations. Unfortunately, Irma had a much more devastating impact on our area than was anticipated and all of the local businesses, restaurants and approximately 300,000 residences were without power for several days with many experiencing storm surge flood damage. While it is our goal to provide platinum service and quality accommodations, we were doing the very best under such tragic circumstances. Nice hotel but stressful experience. I would rather just try somewhere else next time, just to avoid what I went through trying to pay the bill. Being a single mother my finance is very much set on a budget. I do not have time for slip ups.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and decorated very nice. The king bed was comfortable. The breakfast experience was not good. It lacked variety, quality, and service. The pool was cold not heated.

Let,s start with the positives; Nice clean room and location was great. The staff was really friendly and would do anything for you. Convenient all access to the Beach 10 minutes away. The Kimg size bed was compfortable. NEGATIVES; No floor matt in the shower. Very slippery. Pool was supposed to be heated. It was extremely cold. Pretty on the site but very disappointed with this. Breakfast was bad. Powdered Eggs! Bare selection. Waffle maker people hounded and wouldn't give other people a chance. A great place to stay overnight but not even worth the diverse rate. Saw cockroaches in the elevator.

This was my first time staying a a best western.I usually stay at a Marriott or holiday inn property. I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and appearance of the property. "The most expensive smelly shower I had"

The title speaks for itself. Poor staff. Smelly room. Loud dehumidifier. Arrived late and there was a night bell and no one to answer it. They charge extra to check out at 12 noon. The room smelled so bad of cigarette smoke I couldn't sleep and when I asked for a new room I was told this was the one I was assigned and because I arrived so late it couldn't be changed.

"Taking Care of my Kid"

Allow me to start off this review by saying this... I have never stayed here. I doubt I ever will. However, my daughter... a recent college graduate & Navy Ensign is currently staying at this property while she's training at the local Navy base. Today is her birthday. I had called the hotel to let them know I would be sending a package to her overnight to make sure she received the package on time. I mean... the kid is out of town, by herself, on her birthday. Mom & dad want to make sure she gets her gift & feels a little special. Not only did the hotel make sure her package was delivered, they delivered it with balloons. My daughter texted, thanking me for the card & balloons. I told her I would've loved to take credit for the balloons, but it wasn't me. It's amazing that a hotel would go above & beyond to make a guest feel as at home as possible. Thank you to whomever at BW Mayport for doing something for my daughter that mom & dad couldn't do. If I ever find myself in Mayport, I promise I'll be staying there.

The hotel is conveniently located near Naval Station Mayport. I was able to get a reservation for my multiple-night stay at the last-minute and they offer a military discount for service members and DOD civilians on orders. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is a good place to stay!

Wow, I came here for work. It's a little off the the main beach area, and the price reflects the location. But you avoid the crowds. But the beach areas, shopping and restaurants are just down the road. The rooms are a little older, but air words, breakfast is good, and interent works well. I'll be back.

The staff at reception was helpful, concerned about our needs. Answered and questions about the area and things to do. Room attendant personally saw that we had the necessary items to made our stay more enjoyable with extra shampoo, conditioner, lotion and towels. Could sleep well at night with no commotion in the hallway. I really appreciated how clean all areas were.

For a trip to the base you should stay here! It is close enough to everything else(the beach) to make dinner and drinks enjoyable.This location is close enough to the base to make it to the meeting on time. The A/C is always on here!

A wonderful little hidden jewel! Great staff, very clean and modern decor. The lighting in the bathroom is a dream come true! We immensely enjoyed our stay due to the amazing breakfast, the quiet rooms...not a peep from the neighbors, and our room even had a little pond as our view. It is just a hop and skip from the beach.

First room was to been pet free however, when we checked in early the carpet was wet and the room smelled like the previous guests had a ferret in the room. Went to the manager who apologized and gave us a different room that was very acceptable. It seems that there was a rock band festival in town the previous night and they had been rather busy. It is usually military visiting the base nearby who use this hotel but every once in a while an unsavory guest causes a problem.

"TURN AWAY!!!"

This place....... where to start. My husband and I are in so much pain,we're grumpy as hell,and hungry, why? We cane for a quick romantic getaway, we checked into a big clean room, but that's where the good ended. The matresses are the worst, cheap and hard as rock, pillows are the same, we both got about 3 hours sleep, along with a ridiculously loud fan, the bed and pillows actually hurt my husband's back and my neck. Onto the complimentary breakfast. I don't actually have high expectations for this food, your never going to get quality food at these places but Jesus H C****. We wouldn't feed that slop to our dog . cereal was even stale. So onto our final leg of our stay, at checkout Carmen asks us how our stay was. So we tell her our experience, she instantly gets a attitude and frankly doesn't give a s*** ALL OF THIS FOR 150,00!!! NEVER AGAIN BEST WESTERN

Guest service was great! Clean! Would stay there again. Only complaint that breakfast items were average. We didn't have a reservation or anything and the front desk staff were kind enough to work their magic to help find us a room for almost a week, during spring break! We got lucky and it was a nice visit! Would recommend to anyone on a budget!

We noticed the prices for lodging in and around Jacksonville, FL, were a bit on the high side while reviews showed inconsistent levels of cleanliness, service and comfort. So we spread our search out to the suburbs, and we came up with this hotel, the Best Western on Mayport. We not only got one of the best prices in the area, but also got a great night's sleep in a spacious room with high ceilings and nice fixtures. We thought it was a bargain, and we were also fortunate to be in a location with a wide choice of local restaurants to choose from.

We stayed at this Best Western in Atlantic Beach as a resting stop between NY and Key West. We couldn't have picked a better spot! The employees couldn't be friendlier, rooms are clean and comfortable, and the landlord cation is close to the beach and lots of dining options.

"Another quality Best Western"

We were on a driving vacation where we were in a different city each night. Best Western is our motel of choice for it's value and consistency. Since we are in and out we don't get to use many amenities, so the things that are important to us are qualtity Wi FI, comfortable beds, and good breakfasts. We were very pleased with our stay.

We chose this hotel since it was near St. John's River ferry where we crossed after visiting Kingsley Plantation. Very pretty decor. Clean, well maintained and super friendly and courteous manager. Breakfast was good, with both hot and cold items. Dining area was small but tables and chairs were quickly set up to accommodate the overflow. Good value and affordable.

Rooms looked to be recently renovated and was clean and comfortable. Linens and towels look new and fresh. Breakfast was a little disappointing but was acceptable.. overall was a good experience for the price

"Room smelled like old mildewed canvas!"

This is an old worn out property. I found out this building was built in the early 1980s and it definitely needs a renovation. We chose to stay here based on the fact that they allowed pets. The rooms smelled very bad of old mildewed canvas and were not very clean. The beds are worn to the point that the mattresses sag in the center and the bed linens were old and of a very cheap quality. The air conditioner was very noisy and fan squealed occasionally. The bath rooms have been modernized a bit but very poorly in that the old and rusted fixtures were reused. The linens are old and worn out and we actually had two bath towels that had holes all the way through them! The general condition of the property is that of a building that is very old and run down. The breakfast bar had a very limited selection of items and the area was not clean especially the flooring. Basically a two star or less property. I do my best to give a very honest and un biased review of all properties that I stay at. Happy and safe travels!

The Mayport Best Western is my favorite hotel in jax i stay often and the staff now know me by name they go the extra mile to insure the happiness of the guest the hotel is located in the older part of jax there is an awesome itallion restrraunt order a calzone best in the state across the street for lunch or dinner the staff has menu s i enjoy the quiet relaxation of the location and the cleanliness and caring staff its well worth the money for the comforts of home i give this hotel 5 stars

the room was damp but otherwise clean and appeared to have been renovated fairly recently. there had been an issue w/some guests in the afternoon when we returned to the hotel, and police were there but it seemed under control...possibly a domestic issue. the bed slept fine and was a quiet night. staff was very friendly.

The outdoor humidity was extremely high due to storm activity from Hurricane Hermine and when all the air conditioners tried to balance the humidity they produced airborne moisture as a by-product. Back again for the third time yes not go to the beach but for business travel works good good breakfast friendly staff. They made special accommodations for me because I'm a smoker and put me on the first floor really appreciate it. "Good location for a one night stay"

We stayed here while in Atlantic Beach visiting family. Although not too close to the beach, the location was convenient for our purposes. The room was nicely upgraded, but the odor from previous smoking was apparent when we entered the room. It got better after we turned down the A/C. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean and well-maintained. The breakfast was typical hotel fare but had a variety of choices. All in all it was a pleasant stay.

everything was good until the air condition stopped working in a room i had booked for someone with breathing problems. When I told them about it they told me there was nothing they could do until the morning time. and when morning came,they told me no one would be fixing it because i was checking out that day. so i had to check out really early. it just wasn't the proper way to handle things

"Short Stay"

This was a one night stay before moving to a new hotel. The room was nicely renovated and had all the conveniences that you would need (microwave, mini fridge). It did look like they weren't quite finished because of several light fixtures with wiring coming out. It is located next door to a dollar general which is good for stocking that fridge. The only issue that I had was that there was some drunk guy banging on doors and yelling at 2 am in the morning...not good for a restful sleep. Overall a good stay.

"Great Hotel near Mayport with Updates"

If you are going anywhere near the Mayport Naval Station, this hotel is a great stay for any solo or group traveler. I was traveling with my two children and they loved the pool. I found that the front desk staff was very friendly. They have made updates so the room and bathroom are very clean and decorated well. Note: (We ordered delivery from Olympia Pizza, which was awesome!)

"Serviceable "

The front desk, housekeeping have been fantastic! The rooms have recently been redone. The first room we went into had missing shades for the lights and the microwave and fridge were dated. We checked the fridge before putting our items in and it did not feel cold. We asked for a different room, which we got in less than 10 minutes. This room had shades and smelled better. Even though there is no smoking it smelled of smoke. The next room was much better. We discovered after our first shower there is no fan. ?? Outside pool is nice. V One mile from the Navy Base, which was important to us. We go on base to the beach.

Lee at checkin was awesome hotel apparently under renovations room didn't smell fresh curtains in room 118 had big rips in them huge. Iron didn't work ironing board fell on my husband while he was ironing housekeeping didn't speak good English so getting a new iron was an experience. But they were friendly for the most part and tried to be accommodating

I enjoyed my stay at the Best Western on Mayport road. Overall service was excellent and the rooms are recently renovated and very clean. The room rates were excellent and you get more for your money. I recommend this hotel to anyone doing business in Mayport specially on a long term.

I was pleased to get a room that was just renovated and it was quite spacious and lovely. The actual renovation work goes on I assume mostly in the morning or early afternoon since there was no disturbance to my evening routine and sleeping. The folks working at the front desk were quite helpful with some questions I had. The bedding was comfortable and I was able to charge 2 items on the nightstand. The bathroom was clean and tidy. Breakfast was fine.

"A Smokers Paradise"

The hotel has a strong odor of cigarettes the permeates the non-smoking rooms. Lighting fixtures were poor having mercury energizers between the queen beds. Show curtain hung too high. Only light in bath id a florescent mirror frame.

"Improvements May Be Coming"

Trip Advisor reviews are usually based on a single experience. That is, a single meal, a single overnight stay, or a single visit. Thus, this review is based upon our recent one night stay there. This review may not be "fair," since this Best Western is undergoing extensive renovations. Thus, the "negative" expressed may be "corrected: shortly, or, perhaps, not at all. Our check-in was quick and efficient. The room was very plain and simple, to put it mildly. Sterile is probably the word. The hotel guest directory indicated that a daily paper was available for guests. So, I went to the front desk to inquire about getting a paper. No, they don't do that. Hey, management: just about everybody has a USA Today for their guests! The hand towel felt like sandpaper, but the bath towel was a little better. The bed slept well, with four pillows to choose from. Their breakfast room has FOUR tables (no joke), which seat 12 people (4, 4, 2, 2). When we were there, it just happened to not be busy, so we were able to get a table for breakfast. They had 3 metal containers for hot food: (1) biscuits, (2) sausage & gravy, and (3) something yellow, which may have been eggs. Are biscuits a "hot" dish? I guess so. If you wanted to toast something, there was bread. No bagels or English muffins. And, yes, there were waffles and several kinds of cereals and pastries. Again, things may change with their renovation. For sure, the breakfast layout and offerings need improvement.

"In Need of Improvement"

My husband and I decided to stay here for Valentines Day night in a Suite King. The first thing we noticed when we came in was the ice bucket still had water in it and the little ice bag was all sticky. The side of the tub and the counter were also sticky with dust in the corners of the sink. Housekeeping obviously is hurried when they clean these rooms. The shower faucet is a bit dangerous. When you first turn the facet all the waty around you get warm water, but if you push down on it it becomes hot. We mistakenly did this and I could not get out of the shower in time and there is no grab bar. Not only did I almost fall trying to ge tout, but burned my left shoulder in the process. The room itself is fine. You have plenty of space with a separate living room area with a sleeper sofa. There is also a little sink, fridge, and microwave. The room had a 40 inch Samsong T.V. with Comcast cable. This room had a hard King size bed that needed to be replaced. It was worn out. They seemed to be trying to make up for it by adding plenty of thick pillows. One of the good things about this hotel is its hot breakfast. They had sausage and scrambled eggs today along with waffles, fruit, and yogurt. Lee at the check in was very helpful, sweet, and efficient. She made the check in both quick and pleasant. The breakfast staff was also doing a wonderful job of keeping the breakfast area clean and well stocked. Check out was also timely. No problems at all. Overall, with a little remodeling and improvement of housekeeping this hotel would be a nice little place.

When we checked in they were very courteous, told us about our rewards we could use. Our room had a great view, rooms are very clean, the outdoor is kept very clean as well as the grounds. There is a hot breakfast every day and coffee available all day long. There are many restaurants near by as well as attractions like the Naval Station. We highly recommend The Best Western and we will stay here again when we come down.

"Not the expected level of Best Western"

Room Cleaningness was suspicious: sheets & overall with lot of hairs that seemed to come from pets. Also cold tabacco smell in the room. Hot water was warm but not hot. The gym has only 2 cardio stations and 4 workout stations of which one was out of order. Also no centralized AC so some part of the (small) gym are freezing whilst other not really cooled down. Wifi was ok - not perfect. Yet we slept well (no noise) and comfortably and we've liked the breakfast.

"Business"

The Jacuzzi room had a smell over the whole room caused by the tub. It took 1/2 a bottle of heavy duty febreeze to help because the odor machine washing cutting it. I am a not smoker, but as I walk through the hotel I could I identify the smokers. The shower was nice. The bed was very comfy. The AC worked properly. Direct TV channels were good to have. The jacuzzi was amazing to have after a long day.

Even on a holiday weekend the staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and beds were comfy. All appliances worked like a charm including hair dryer, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Nice gym and pool too!

The staff was very friendly. There had been flooding 2 weeks prior to our arrival and the room smelled very musty. A dehumidifier would have helped. Glad we only stayed 1 night. Was disappointed in breakfast offerings, no eggs.

I stayed here for a few days in October. It close to beaches and state parks and St Augustine is an easy drive. Close enough to places but far enough away to be out of the hustle and bustle. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again with no hesitation. The room was clean and comfortable.

The lady at the front desk was as sweet as can be. However, she did not split the hotel room (we stayed for three nights) upon check-in, like we asked. The entire charge was put on my card and since it took a while to show up, I had to call the hotel multiple times and play phone tag with the manager in order for it to get straightened out. The girl that tried to assist me was unsure of how to remedy the issue and according to her, the manager was not available that evening. I will give her credit for showing some concern and asking me whether I wanted to wait to speak with him directly so that perhaps he could comp me for my inconvenience, or if I wanted her to go ahead and split the bill. I do not believe she did it correctly but I was not sure since their e-receipt was very confusing. The manager unknowingly offended me and I felt he was blaming me for their mistake. I explained to him how he came across and he was apologetic. He eventually took care of part of the charge for me, but I do not think it should've been this difficult to split a bill. As far as the hotel itself, like I said, it wasn't bad and it wasn't great. There is only one elevator and it is very slow and very small. Some of the rooms are smoking and that was definitely not preferable, but neither were the prices of other hotels closer to the beach. We opted not to get housekeeping during our stay and just asked for what we needed at the front desk. The housekeeping staff were fairly nice. It was definitely very hot inside the hallways and especially the elevator. They had a huge fan running, but it was just blowing warm air in your face as you waited for the slow elevator. Not exactly pleasant. They do offer free breakfast. It's not too bad. You will have to get up early unless you want whatever is left over. They have a tiny workout room but honestly I don't know who actually works out on vacation. It doesn't take long to drive to the beaches... Parking can be iffy depending on when you come back to the hotel. There will still be a space open but if you want something well-lit, you may have a hard time. The only light will be coming from the front of the hotel and MAYBE a nearby street light. I don't remember the parking lot feeling super secure. Just a thought if you are female and traveling alone. The hotel DID smell weird... like some sort of chemical. We never did pinpoint the odor, and it gave us a bit of a headache. I do not believe the bathroom had a fan either. Our view was of a body of standing water... Not very comforting since it's a breeding ground for mosquitoes, etc... Perhaps the source of some of that odor? Who knows. I would say if you stay here, just know that it's going to be a budget hotel. It is pretty clean, but it's basic. There is a mini fridge (with freezer), microwave, and coffee maker in the room, which is a plus. I've stayed in better hotels and I've definitely stayed in worse. Noise level is fairly loud in the kitchen/common areas. Not sure if it's because it's close to the naval base? We could hear people talking and slamming doors while we were in our room. Again, you really can't prevent that sort of thing. Just be prepared and bring some earbuds or earplugs. The cable wasn't spectacular or static-free, but it is what it is and it served us well while it was pouring rain outside.

We were in the area for my husbands business and chose to stay here because of recommendations from several friends. We were very pleased with everything. The outside appearance of the hotel was very well kept. Upon entering the hotel lobby, we were greeted by friendly and knowledgable staff. We needed a place to eat and they were very well versed in places to eat and gave excellent directions. Our room was very nice and spotless. We had a very good nights sleep, very little noise in the hotel and we retire to bed fairly early. We ate breakfast in the morning and were quite surprised at the quality of the free breakfast. Our room was serviced by the housekeeping staff every morning, and they were very polite and friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay a good one as did all the staff. The hotel staff was very friendly, made you feel at home. We stayed for several nights and everything was awesome. We have recommended this hotel to our family and friends and will definitely stay here next time we are in the area.

"Unbelievable"

We have previously stayed here and liked the hotel. The manager was great and told me to call and get a suite upgrade. Unfortunately we weren't able to go to J'ville for 2 yrs. due to my husband's major cancer surgery and treatment. We finally were to go this week to meet our new granddaughter. I automatically booked this hotel due to our previous experience. Biggest mistake ever!!!!!! Should have read the reviews! I called to say we were doing a late check in. The desk clerk repeatedly asked what time. When I responded between 7:30 and 9 depending on my grandkids. I asked about the upgrade and was told it could not be. I checked in at 8pm. At the desk was a lady getting clean sheets because hers were dirty- human hairs- not hers. Another family was checking out -CLUE!!! The 1st room smelled of mold and mildew the second I opened the door. the room I changed too also had the same smells but not as strong. By then I was too tired to do anything else. The moldy mildew smell persisted all night.. This was a huge concern as my husband has a compromised respiratory system and breathes thru a trac. He recently spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia so mold and mildew are a concern. As I checked out I told the clerk my concerns. She said the manager would be calling me, yeah right. Many more trips planned to J'ville to see the grandkids but we will NEVER stay at this hotel!!!!!

"Home away from home"

I love the Mayport Inn & Suites in Atlantic Beach the staff are friendly and helpful and once you check in they actually remember your name!!! The rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast was wonderful with real eggs and bacon, waffles, fruit, cereals and any bagel or pastery you can imagine. I enjoyed my overall stay and the stay make you feel as if your coming home.

"NEVER TO RETURN"

Checked in on 04OCT15 to 07OCT15, room smelled of mold, carpet turned the bottom of my socks brown. Complained to front desk, quickly addressed problem with a bleach cleaner, smell returned later that night. Maintenance man entered room while I was in the shower and left door open - the DO NOT DISTURB sign clearly on outside of door. Complained to Front Office Mgr who let the employee combatively argue with me and said it was the front office fault without a peep from mgmt. This man was totally unstable, threatening and argumentative which left the front office scared of him as well. And he has a master key? Felt threatened, and left the property. Complained to Best Western upon return, without any results, apologies or refunds. I did receive a complaint file number which has gone unnoticed and unaddressed. Second time at this property, BUT NEVER AGAIN!!!

The check in and out process was a breeze. Just a few minor things we found in our room during our 1 night stay. But nothing that can't be fixed. We will be back and definitely would recommend to family and friends.

"Cigarette smelly rooms"

Stayed at many Best Westerns. This is the first time that we had a horrible cigarette smelling room. Not impressed. Also there hot breakfast was nothing to brag about. Very limited and tasteless. Very disappointed at this Best Western.

"Looks are deceiving"

Let me begin buy saying looks are deceiving. Yes it is a great looking property both outside and inside. Upon getting in my first room(102) the very pungent smell of mildew was overwhelming. I notified lee at the front desk and asked for it to be taken care of as I was only dropping my things off and coming back the following night. She stated she would have maintenance put a dehumidifier in while I was gone to rectify the problem, that never happened.Upon returning nothing was. Done. I grabbed my belongings and loaded them up to leave for the day and again notified the front desk clerk I wanted another room that did not smell of mildew and on the first floor. This went ignored as the clerk working the early morning did not bother to relay this to anyone else. Therefore when I returned late that evening there was only seven rooms left available unsold three of them on the first floor all of them which also smelled of mildew. (117,123, The room I was finally given(125) was sprayed so heavily of orange deodorizer that it was also overwhelming but better than smelling the mildew. Of course I'm still breathing in the mold spores. The following evening, after I returned again, I stopped at the front desk where I always stop to ask them to put my soft sided gel cooler in the freezer for me as it was to big for the mini fridge freezer in my room. The clerk told me they don't do that for guest, although it's been no problem the previous nights or at any other hotel I stay at 200+- nights a year! I asked why is this a problem and she simply replied we just don't do that. I left my cooler on the counter and said please put this in the freezer and I'll pick it up in the morning as I always do. And I walked on to my room. About 45 mins later I called down to the desk to ask her to please ask the guest above me to stop jumping on the floor. She then told me she has been trying to reach me (the phone in the room never rang once) to tell me that the manager said they couldn't put the cooler in because of a delivery earlier in the day. So we went from we just don't do this to our freezer is full. I asked three times for her to have management call me prior to writing about my stay. Poor customer service. And bad smelling rooms is the summary.

I enjoyed my stay at the Mayport.Inn the room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was wonderful fruits, waffles, bagels, and real bacon and eggs!!! The staff here go above and beyond for their guests. I will definitely stay at this property again.

Another great stay at Best Western Mayport Inn & Suites thanks to Thomas, Lee, and the other caring, friendly staff. We stayed over the weekend for another fishing trip out of Mayport fishing village. As usual, the staff was excellent and right there for your every need. The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. If you're in the Mayport or Atlantic Beach area and want a great, inexpensive, and comfortable stay then this is the place.
