I don't know how this hotel got 4 stars. Maybe AI? We arrived last night for the three night stay in a two room suite we had reserved months ago. We were told there was a problem with the room - they didn't call us ahead of time - and offered us a room with two Queen beds instead. This was for my husband and I and our adult daughter. Not acceptable. We finally ended up in 2 rooms, but along the way we discovered that second floor rooms are only accessed by stairs - some with no handrails. Showers in tubs with no grab bars. I am in my seventies with multiple joint replacements. I don't need an ADA room because normal safety features work for me. Normal safety features don't exist here. I'm surprised the fire marshall hasn't shut them down. And welcome back to the 70s, although then the carpet and wallpaper were new. Dark, peeling wall paper, mattresses that are like sleeping in a hammock, terrible lighting, a sink drain that doesn't drain. I could go on. Don't be fooled by the photos. My two stars are because they finally did give us two rooms at no extra charge, and it was probably as clean as one can get something this old and in disrepair. Their access to the Shakespeare Festival is prime and we will enjoy our stay with Ashland's many fine restaurants and excellent theater. But we will never stay at Bards Inn again.

Dissatisfied for the second time w Best Western Boutique Signature. No different than a standard room. This place needs Security. I had to figure out how to exit the building to get to breakfast. A bum in wheelchair sleeping in the corridor. There were guest rooms on the first floor. At least on the second floor there is key access to get on elevator. Not the same place I stayed12 years ago. Very dissatisfied
The only good thing I can say about this hotel it the location - It is walking distance to the theatres and restaurants in Ashland. Everything else about it was HORRIBLE. The front desk was incompetent and messed up our reservation. The pool was filthy, and the breakfast sub-par. WORST OF ALL was the room. Besides being dirty, by bed tilted to the left and I had to huddle on the right side to avoid falling off! What a dump.

Do not ever stay at The Bard's Inn in Ashland Oregon. I would not have taken the time to write a review of the small, dark room and unsavory breakfast, had it not been for another instance involving the owner, Jon Warren. This past April my husband and I were driving from California to Canada and on the way spent one night at The Bard's Inn. In the room's armoire I hung my favorite jacket (nothing else), and forgot it there. Later the next day I called the hotel to let them know I'd left it behind. Front desk staff searched but found nothing. I asked to speak with a manager and at first Jon Warren was pleasant enough. He interviewed his cleaning staff and reported that they found nothing. I asked to make a lost property claim with the hotel's insurance provider. Mr. Warren told me his hotel did not have an insurance provider. I asked how this could be possible – isn't liability coverage required by the state, the city? I requested that Mr. Warren research the hotel's coverage (thinking perhaps that as a manager, not an owner, he might not have the knowledge, but I later learned he's in fact the owner, but didn't identify himself as such). He called me back a few days later and stated that a search was again made for my jacket, but it wasn't found. I was confused. This had already been established. What I'd asked for was the insurer information, so I asked again. At the this point he became downright hostile, insisting that his housekeepers don't steal, etc. To be clear, I never once used the word “stolen”. Instead, I said I left my jacket in the armoire, and then it was gone. (The only other places it could've been - in our car or my suitcase – it was not.) At this point the story becomes complicated. I sent a certified letter to "the Proprietor", (still not realizing that the owner was Jon Warren), requesting compensation, or the ability to make a lost property claim. I contacted the City of Ashland, and the Oregon Secretary of State Business Division. Responses came back that there was no record of an insurance provider, nor, perhaps, even a license to operate. How is this possible? This is the second time this year I've left something valuable behind in a hotel. Last year I completed aggressive treatment for cancer, and since then I am very distracted by anxiety, and have trouble concentrating. I mention this because I don't want readers, who might come across my review of a similar issue with Hilton, to think I'm running some kind of racket… (I was able to submit an insurance claim with Hilton.) If Jon Warren had not been so downright rude and hostile, I would not be going to this trouble, particularly since it's not exactly conducive to my health. What possible motivation could I have for making up the case of a missing jacket? The Bard's Inn is independently owned by Warren Resorts, yet it can only be accessed online via Best Western. Meanwhile, Best Western stated to me that it isn't responsible, yet the Warren family conveniently hides behind BW anyway. Stay away from the Bard's Inn. Aside from the fact the hotel is not guest-focused, it may not even be insured or licensed.
Great location! Walking distance to theaters, restaurants and downtown. Staff is friendly. Hotel is clean. Breakfast is satisfactory. Bed was too soft and bedding is very dated. We had a room with a nice spa tub and it was a great amenity. Room was spacious and had a quiet back view. We would stay here again.
We were a 3-member family in an upgraded (size-wise) 2-queen room, and we felt it was not a good value for the money we paid. The room felt cramped.
Our two room suite was tired and sad. The patio had a view of an electrical transformer. And the shower water barely dribbled. When I called the front desk about the lack of water pressure they were not surprised. As far as I can tell this motel/hotel has only two things going for it - proximity to OSF and a flexible cancellation policy which is not easy to find in Ashland. If you don't need either of these features, don't stay here. I certainly won't again.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your suite did not meet expectations and that you experienced issues with the water pressure during your stay. Your comments regarding the room condition, view, and maintenance concerns have been shared with our team for review. We appreciate your recognition of our location and flexible cancellation policy, and we regret that the overall experience did not earn your return visit.
No one thing in this list is worth complaining about on its own, but as a whole they definitely deserve a low rating: It always took 2-3 tries to unlock the door, as the handle would not “catch” on the first tries. Mold/corrosion in water receptacle of coffee maker. Room is dimly lit by low-wattage fixtures and no overhead lights. Maids did not perform room/sheet/towel refresh even though I requested the service and was out all day. The concierge said my request didn't “propagate through the system” and even after he told the maids who were still on premises to do it, they never did. Toilet is very old, low to the floor, has a very small round seat, and you have to hold the lever down for a few seconds to flush it. TV is very basic, with no streaming services (not a “smart” TV typical of modern hotels)
From check in to check out, great time. Staff wonderful. Breakfast amazing! Will be back!
Cozy, comfortable, clean rooms in a great location in downtown Ashland. Our king room also had a table and two chairs along with plenty of surfaces to spread out our gear. Room also had a mini-fridge. Hot water for tea & cocoa was available in the lobby. Complimentary breakfast included eggs, sausage, pancakes, yogurt, fruit, breads and pastries, cereals and oatmeal, coffee, tea, and juice. Friendly staff and hassle-free, robust wi-fi. We'd stay here again.
Great place to stay.....reminded me of a English hotel room. Very quiet and one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in on my recent trip.
The location of this hotel is on the edge of town near countless restaurants and a lovely park. The charming neighborhood surrounding the hotel is filled with pretty houses. The rooms themselves are spacious, well-equipped, and clean. All good except to my great frustration, the internet was not working. For the entire stay, there was no internet connection. The gracious woman at the front desk when I checked-in seemed to be the only employee on site. She did her best to trouble shoot the problem in between assisting other guests who were checking in. Beyond rebooting the modem or router there were no other options for restoring service. When I checked out in the morning, the equally helpful clerk said he was aware of the problem and that the manager would call me later in the day to discuss reasonable compensation. I never heard from any person, just an auto-generated survey.
Good: Clean. Walking distance to everything. Excellent parking. Bad: Small rooms, soft beds, dark rooms. Low water pressure. The blanket thing is uncomfortable. The breakfast here is one of the worst we've had in hotels. But cleanliness is almost everything. Almost. And good location.
The Bard's Inn is a great location for access to the OSF site to experience the wonderful plays. Also easy walking distance to restaurants and shopping. This is our third stay at Bard's Inn and have always had a great experience.
I am very surprised that this property is in Best Western's category of BW Signature Collection. While the property itself is adequate, the staff is very poor, and the Signature Collection criterion of Hospitality is utterly lacking. Inexperienced, unhelpful, and quite frankly treated us as though they were doing us a favor by letting us stay there. This was not our first stay, and we've noticed this before. But our most recent visit (it will also be our last) was the worst. We stay at a lot of Best Western properties on our road trips and property quality and room quality can be spotty. But hospitality is something any location should be able to do if it really wants to. Bard's Inn apparently doesn't want to.
Great locaton, near everything, but a little bit quiter. Rooms were good, but a bit dark and cramped, every though we had a balcony (tiny) and two queens made it tight. Free breakfast had lots of options and was very good value Price was not too bad, which made it a good value, you can save $100 outside of town about a mile or so, but why would you.
If you are planning a visit to Ashland (especially for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival), it is hard to beat this location without spending a fortune at a boutique hotel. It is only a minute or two walk to the main strip and only a few minutes more to get to the theatres. (And Ashland has to be the most pedestrian-friendly town I have ever visited.) There are three separate buildings on opposite sides of the intersection, and it is worth double checking with management about which one you get--one building is motel-style with doors facing a parking lot; the other two have secure interior hallways and seem a lot more quiet. Pros: --Location, location, location. --Surprisingly quiet inside rooms given its proximity to the main road through town --Free level-2 EV charging --Free breakfast (it is pretty basic, but complete) --Easy access in lobby to guest computers and printer --Free wifi seemed more than adequate Cons: --I really, really wish this hotel (and all hotels) would stop using so much single-use plastic. Shampoo, conditioner, and lotion came in tiny amounts packaged in a lot of plastic. The breakfast set up also included a lot of items packaged individually in a lot of plastic. Free water was given upon checkin to BW Reward members, but again, in single-use plastic bottles. --Room decor is dark and dated (at least in the rooms we had). For example, the vanity area and bathroom had really dark wall paper that was only partially hiding quite a few stains. Even with these minor criticisms, I have stayed here two years in a row to attend shows, and I will likely return next year.
We stayed there last night. It's a great location, after that, it's old and tired. The staff are young and not very caring. The room was old and shabby, plus the toilet didn't work, so we had to turn the water off every time we used it. I'm sure that hotel has a high average occupancy rate; they need to start reinvesting in its upkeep.
The staff were very helpful in obtaining a cancelation refund for me from a 3rd party who had refused. Manager Malcom and front desk Kathia spent precious time working on this for me.
I hate to leave a negative review, but this was not a great experience. The motel would have been "average," but there were problems that made our stay below average. Upon checking in to our room, we immediately saw that the cleaning had not been adequate: there was someone's brassiere on our floor! And a candy wrapper under our bed. The very nice desk clerk came up and vacuumed the room, but it was very disappointing to find the room in such bad order. There was so much furniture in the room that it felt cramped. Narrow aisle between the beds and the desk and dressers. Also, the shampoo and conditioner portions were stingy. Only one use per little bottle (and they only left us one per day), so not enough for two people. The Breakfast room was so crowded and noisy that we skipped it. Our friend was next door, and his TV didn't work. The sheets seemed clean, thankfully, as did the bathroom. And it was quiet enough at night, which was a plus.
A perfect location for all things Ashland. Walking distance to OSF, shops, restaurants, you name it. We stayed 2 nights in a small, but adequate room with mini-fridge. Staff was nice, even gave me a free stmap for my postcard. Hot tub was enjoyable and there's a pool, too. Wondeful breakfast with lots of choices.
We stayed at the Bard's Inn for one night, in the Sonnet Building, on April 1, 2025. The room had some issues, all of which we were willing to ignore. The afternoon of April 2, we returned from a day excursion. There was a female in the parking lot, (the parking lot is very small), with random bits of property spread out over a section of the lot. I stepped out of the passenger side of our car, and this woman violently threw a glass bottle at me and my husband, which thankfully, broke on the ground and did not hit us. The woman proceeded to yell and scream at us. I was terrified. Neither of us felt safe or secure. We were worried this woman was going to attack us, vandalize our car, or cause some kind of harm. My husband told me to call the police. I called the hotel staff, and then called 911. The Ashland Police Department responded to the hotel. Based on the set of rules they must follow, they were unable to escort the woman away because the hotel owner refused to have her evicted from the property. My husband and I decided we could not stay at this property because it was obviously an unsafe place, and we feared for our physical safety, due to the fact this woman acted violently toward us. I packed our belongings while my husband stayed outside to ensure she did not vandalize our car. She proceeded to become more belligerent, to the point that the police had to respond to the hotel a second time. To make matters worse, there was a group of high school students staying there, and they had to be evacuated by the hotel staff, due to her behavior. Also, a neighbor who lived next to the hotel called the police, because her children were playing outside and she feared for THEIR safety. The police eventually had to arrest this woman. When I checked out, I told the clerk I expected to NOT be charged. She put me on the phone with the hotel owner who told me I was definitely getting charged. I have sent a complaint to Best Western and am now in the process of having our charges from this property refunded, $348.41, and so far BW is failing in this regard. I was furious. We had to leave that night, drive to a different hotel and stay elsewhere because the hotel owner person did not care about the safety and security of his guests, nor did he care about the safety of the people in that neighborhood. Do not stay here. The hotel owner does not care about the safety and security of his guests.
As frequent visitors to Ashland, my partner and I were hopeful that Bard's Inn would become our go-to spot. Unfortunately, this experience was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. We booked a pet-friendly room with a jet tub for some much-needed relaxation, but the stay quickly went downhill. When we filled the tub, black mold and debris came out of the jets, making it completely unusable. Attempts to contact staff were futile—the front desk was unstaffed, and the manager's contact number posted on the door was incorrect. At 8 PM, my partner had to go buy cleaning supplies to try to salvage the tub, but while cleaning, the faucet fell off. After a lot of searching, we finally found an employee who was filling in for someone else. He informed us that we had been placed in an “allergen-free” wing by mistake, even though we booked as pet owners. He offered a $14 discount and moved us to another room. The second room wasn't much better. There was a burnt-out kitchen light, stained towels, exposed carpet tacking that cut my foot, a flickering lamp, and a falling curtain rod that punctured my finger. These issues were just unacceptable. We reported everything the next morning with photos and were told the manager was on holiday and would follow up. Despite repeated calls, the only response we received was the same $14 discount on a future booking, which does not come close to addressing the extensive problems we faced. While I understand occasional maintenance issues, this many problems in one stay—coupled with the lack of responsiveness—suggests poor management and upkeep at this location. I cannot recommend Bard's Inn to anyone, and this experience has made me question the Best Western brand entirely.
Absolutely tiny room. Creaky, old building. I guess Elizabethan themed? Built in the 1800s? Kind of bizarre to be honest. Super old fashioned decor apart from the tv which did not work the entire time, however. Great location near downtown and big breakfast room, otherwise weirdly small and cramped and taking the theme too far. Not sure you have many other options that take pets though.
